:00:00. > :00:00.against an opponent in Hakan Erseker who has literally boxed at the same

:00:00. > :00:00.pace, not upping the tempo or changing anything. It allows Hurshid

:00:07. > :00:11.Tojibaev to do what he wants in terms of dictating the pace, he is

:00:12. > :00:14.in his comfort zone, he has had harder spas, and he is quality, but

:00:15. > :00:20.has not been pushed at all this evening. Hakan Erseker, perhaps

:00:21. > :00:24.reluctant to try to up the tempo, even though it is the Olympic Games

:00:25. > :00:29.and a straight elimination tournament, this is not a round

:00:30. > :00:32.robin, but he's been hit hard and often, especially during the course

:00:33. > :00:37.of the second round, that could be why he is reluctant to close the

:00:38. > :00:42.gap. He may not be able to close the gap on an experienced operator like

:00:43. > :00:48.a 26-year-old Hurshid Tojibaev, but he is boxing on even terms at his

:00:49. > :00:51.own tempo, Hurshid Tojibaev, cruising around the perimeter of the

:00:52. > :00:57.boxing ring and engaging when he chooses.

:00:58. > :01:05.Hurshid Tojibaev is a quality kid. He has a super whipping shot. He has

:01:06. > :01:12.a very low guard and it is difficult to see whether punches are coming

:01:13. > :01:18.from. That is a little better. , Hakan Erseker has to do more on

:01:19. > :01:33.that. He is putting it under pressure. He is now on a comfort

:01:34. > :01:37.zone and comfort mode here. You pointed out how important it is to

:01:38. > :01:42.post oneself if you want to go deep into Olympic tournament and I think

:01:43. > :01:47.we have just witnessed a masterclass in pacing oneself during the course

:01:48. > :01:51.of the 60 kilograms contest. Hurshid Tojibaev hit his man hard early and

:01:52. > :01:55.got his respect and perhaps instilled a little bit of doubt into

:01:56. > :01:59.the mind of Hakan Erseker as well and then controlled things as he

:02:00. > :02:03.likes for many parts of that round. He was looking busy for not doing

:02:04. > :02:08.very much at all. Controlled it well and if you have to go four or five

:02:09. > :02:13.times to win an Olympics, you have got to pace yourself and that is

:02:14. > :02:16.what he has done. Tremendous stuff from Hurshid Tojibaev, he switches

:02:17. > :02:20.downstairs with that left up to the body and the right and over the top.

:02:21. > :02:34.His corner are very happy indeed. Yes, worthy winner.

:02:35. > :02:42.We're just waiting for the formality of an announcement that should see

:02:43. > :02:49.Hurshid Tojibaev progressed to the second round. Ladies and gentlemen,

:02:50. > :03:05.the winner by a unanimous decision... Hurshid Tojibaev.

:03:06. > :03:09.Hurshid Tojibaev of Uzbekistan, the tournament number three seed is true

:03:10. > :03:12.to the second round of the men's lightweight tournament with the

:03:13. > :03:20.minimum of fuss courtesy of a unanimous points decision victory

:03:21. > :03:24.over Hakan Erseker from Qatar. Thank you, we will be back up for

:03:25. > :03:33.the Joe Cordina fight in a few minutes. We have the Team GB in

:03:34. > :03:38.action throughout the evening in Rio. Tell us a bit about Joe Cordina

:03:39. > :03:42.first up. Well, they call him the Welsh Wizard

:03:43. > :03:47.and he is the only Welshman within the Team GB boxing squad and he has

:03:48. > :03:50.had a really good year, a couple of years, he won a bronze medal at the

:03:51. > :03:54.2014 commonwealths and he followed up last year by winning the European

:03:55. > :03:57.title so a really good run-up to this and he has actually said that

:03:58. > :04:02.he would be disappointed if he doesn't come away with gold, a bold

:04:03. > :04:08.statement, I think! Joe is fighting in the light weight decision, as we

:04:09. > :04:13.have just seen. Later on we have the heavyweight with Lawrence Okolie

:04:14. > :04:18.fighting for Team GB. What a story. Lawrence Okolie has just had 25

:04:19. > :04:24.fights up until this point, that is nothing really in terms of boxing

:04:25. > :04:28.and coming to the greatest show on Earth at the Olympics. You see him

:04:29. > :04:31.and he is fit and he is a heavyweight and really in shape but

:04:32. > :04:35.as a child he was at the centre used to get the lead. I don't think they

:04:36. > :04:39.are laughing at any more. He has done very well for himself as well.

:04:40. > :04:42.Another Team GB boxer that is very confident and will be expected to

:04:43. > :04:48.get the later stages of the tournament. That match will be just

:04:49. > :04:53.after 11pm UK time. We can see a union Jack just over your shoulder

:04:54. > :04:57.and that sounds like a noisy venue. What is the support for Team GB?

:04:58. > :05:01.Will they go wild when Lawrence Okolie and Joe Cordina come out? It

:05:02. > :05:06.has really picked up this evening. This morning it was a bit of a damp

:05:07. > :05:10.squib with not a lot of noise or a lot of fans in the arena but now it

:05:11. > :05:13.has really picked up and they had a couple of Brazilians here earlier

:05:14. > :05:46.and the home support was fantastic. So, there is Joe Cordina's opponent,

:05:47. > :05:56.Charlie Suarez, ranked 14th in the world. Here comes the Joe Cordina

:05:57. > :06:03.from Wales. It is his Olympic debut here in Rio 2016. He booked his

:06:04. > :06:06.place through a really difficult qualification tournament in Turkey.

:06:07. > :06:10.It was a European continental qualification tournament and he came

:06:11. > :06:14.through with a second-place finish to secure his passage through but he

:06:15. > :06:22.had some really hard fights en route to that final. He is just getting a

:06:23. > :06:25.pat on his back as he makes his way up the steps and into the Olympic

:06:26. > :06:34.boxing ring for the first time in what has been a glittering Korea to

:06:35. > :06:41.this point. Charly Suarez, 28 years of age, part

:06:42. > :06:43.of the two-man Filipino boxing team with no women on their squad. A

:06:44. > :06:58.sporting touch of gloves. Both men are back to their

:06:59. > :07:04.respective corners and keen to get their Olympic campaign is underway.

:07:05. > :07:07.Here we go, the first of scheduled 33-minute rounds in this 62 grams

:07:08. > :07:12.lightweight division between boxers from the Philippines and Great

:07:13. > :07:15.Britain. The man wearing blue is the Great Britain's Joe Cordina, 24

:07:16. > :07:19.years of age and his opponent is wearing red and he represents the

:07:20. > :07:25.Philippines, and that is Charlie Suarez. Both of these men come in

:07:26. > :07:30.with a good set of credentials. , from tournaments in their own

:07:31. > :07:35.regions. World Series boxing experience about both of them have

:07:36. > :07:45.acquired as well, so expect this one to be a thinking fighters contest.

:07:46. > :07:48.They knew all about each other because the Philippines were invited

:07:49. > :07:52.over for a multi-Nations training camp in the last few months so they

:07:53. > :07:57.will have sparred each other and they know all about each other. Joe

:07:58. > :08:00.is accompanying kid anyway and he would have been imagined -- like I

:08:01. > :08:04.imagine he would have been quite keen with the draw against this

:08:05. > :08:09.fella because I witnessed many spas with the GB against the Philippines

:08:10. > :08:12.and GB were controlling most of the spas against them so Joe has started

:08:13. > :08:20.very fast here in a confident mood, most definitely. He really is a

:08:21. > :08:26.talented individual, Joe Cordina. He can box on the front foot and going

:08:27. > :08:37.backwards. That is a cracking right hand and a cracking response. Both

:08:38. > :08:41.men are inside the world's top 20 with Charly Suarez number 14 and Joe

:08:42. > :08:44.Cordina number eight but neither man is seeded and that is why they are

:08:45. > :08:54.competing in this preliminary round of action. 28 boxers make up the

:08:55. > :09:00.lightweight tournament here in Rio. Joe Cordina is continuing to pick

:09:01. > :09:03.his punches and move effectively, when he holds his feet and

:09:04. > :09:14.standstill it is when he brings Suarez into the contest. He is a

:09:15. > :09:17.very difficult man to beat in deed. Joe Cordina needs to keep an in and

:09:18. > :09:21.out movement and work with the distance and then go back with the

:09:22. > :09:25.right hand. In and out and con fused the opponent. If you look at Suarez

:09:26. > :09:29.he is very flat-footed. He prefers the opponent to be standing in front

:09:30. > :09:32.of him in trading and may be working on the inside as he fancies the

:09:33. > :09:35.short to mid-range battle babe cannot adapt and move with a moving

:09:36. > :09:37.fighter like Cortina, so it is important that Cortina keeps the in

:09:38. > :09:55.and out movement going. Short of the mark on that occasion.

:09:56. > :09:58.The Cordina radar seems to be a lot more attuned now. He was caught by a

:09:59. > :10:02.left hand to the head and then Suarez went down the left and the

:10:03. > :10:06.body but a very good opening round of boxing with Cordina using his

:10:07. > :10:10.legs well and using his advantage in height and reach to good advantage

:10:11. > :10:14.as well. I think they will be very pleased in the GB corner. The

:10:15. > :10:19.movement was good for Cordina and occasionally he held his feet like

:10:20. > :10:22.he did there and got caught a shot but he was in and out for most of

:10:23. > :10:28.the round. We are just seeing the best action from Suarez but Cordina

:10:29. > :10:33.came back with his own good work there. If you have not seen Olympic

:10:34. > :10:38.boxing since London 2012, it is no longer computer scoring and it is a

:10:39. > :10:44.ten point system in effect and judge a as gone for Suarez and B and C

:10:45. > :10:51.favoured Cordina. The first round is split to live in favour of the

:10:52. > :10:54.British representative. Five judges are seated ringside and three of

:10:55. > :10:57.them are selected randomly without their knowledge prior to the opening

:10:58. > :11:06.bout and their scores are used to determine the contest. Into the

:11:07. > :11:09.second round we go. The man wearing red, Charly Suarez of the

:11:10. > :11:16.Philippines took the opening round for judge a, 10-9, whereas B and C

:11:17. > :11:20.favoured the eye-catching work of the man in blue. Make no mistake, it

:11:21. > :11:25.was a competitive opening round with a sneaky right hand from Suarez. If

:11:26. > :11:28.there is a criticism, and I am loath to criticise any boxer, but

:11:29. > :11:32.sometimes the concentration and workrate from Joe Cordina can dip

:11:33. > :11:36.and that is when he can bring opponents back into contest. It is

:11:37. > :11:38.vital that he keeps his concentration of workrate at optimal

:11:39. > :11:43.level throughout this opening bout in the lightweight tournament. Yes,

:11:44. > :11:47.he is experienced enough now to anticipate a tempo change from his

:11:48. > :11:50.opponent and that is what the Philippine caller would have said to

:11:51. > :11:54.their man. He has lost the first round and you have to up the

:11:55. > :11:58.workrate. For the first 30 seconds Suarez came out and he has done some

:11:59. > :12:01.better work and Cordina has to up the tempo and adjust the feet and

:12:02. > :12:06.bring his opponent onto the shots but not hold the feet. Hit him as he

:12:07. > :12:10.is coming and then move off to the side and go again and keep the

:12:11. > :12:15.movement. There you go, you you can see him adjust his feet as he lands

:12:16. > :12:23.two shots. That is better for Joe Cordina. He cannot afford to switch

:12:24. > :12:29.off. Codeine is only 24 years of age and he has participated in three

:12:30. > :12:33.World Championship tournaments. -- Cordina. He is 60 kilograms and

:12:34. > :12:37.always tends to be on the receiving end of very difficult draws, coming

:12:38. > :12:42.up against top boys from around the world, but he has acquired heaps of

:12:43. > :12:49.experience. Just attention will be required to the bootstrap of his

:12:50. > :12:53.right boot. To tell you a little bit about him, Joe Cordina is a right

:12:54. > :12:58.character. He is the clown of the group. He is a great impersonator

:12:59. > :13:02.and he can take off anyone. He is very talented. He makes everyone

:13:03. > :13:07.laughed, but he has to concentrate tonight. He just got caught by a

:13:08. > :13:12.right hand as the action resumed once the bootlace was adjusted.

:13:13. > :13:15.Suarez turned momentarily to the southpaw stance, coming from the

:13:16. > :13:20.Philippines it is perhaps unsurprising, as Cordina got through

:13:21. > :13:23.without good right hand and an Ali shuffle from Charly Suarez, coming

:13:24. > :13:28.from the Philippines it is unsurprising that his idol is Manny

:13:29. > :13:32.Pat the Alps, he also admires George Foreman and Evander Holyfield and

:13:33. > :13:40.they had glittering Olympic careers as well. Evander Holyfield was in

:13:41. > :13:44.the first Olympic Games where head guards were introduced. George

:13:45. > :13:48.Foreman romped his way to heavyweight gold before celebrating

:13:49. > :13:58.by pulling out a tiny American flag. Another single shot success from

:13:59. > :14:02.Suarez. Suarez is just waiting on the outside and when Cordina LAN two

:14:03. > :14:06.shots on the way out occasion he gets caught so he has to keep the

:14:07. > :14:11.guard up a little higher as he is moving away. He will probably move

:14:12. > :14:17.out of the side and if he goes up on a straight line he might get caught

:14:18. > :14:20.by this fella. Codeine scored with a wonderful right hand. The two of

:14:21. > :14:23.them are boxing with their hands down, tempting of fainting and

:14:24. > :14:27.teasing and trying to draw a lead of which they can encounter but a very

:14:28. > :14:30.good second round of boxing with very impressive adjustments made by

:14:31. > :14:35.Charly Suarez during the course of that round. That round was a lot

:14:36. > :14:39.closer with Suarez having a bit of success there. That is what they

:14:40. > :14:44.will be saying to him. He upped the tempo at the start when he had a bit

:14:45. > :14:47.of success with Cordina. He will have to do a bit better in this

:14:48. > :14:52.round. A good right hand there from Suarez. Waited for Cordina to be

:14:53. > :14:58.moving away from him and then he catches him again there with a good

:14:59. > :15:02.shot. Remember the first round was split with judge a favouring Suarez

:15:03. > :15:14.but B and C favoured Cordina. This time B and C favoured Suarez and C

:15:15. > :15:16.favoured Cordina. Perhaps that is a fair reflection of the contest we

:15:17. > :15:28.have witnessed until this point. Into the third and final round, and

:15:29. > :15:34.it's Joe Cordina, representing Great Britain, part of it, a 12 strong UK

:15:35. > :15:39.boxing team, larger than what they had in London, all ten male weight

:15:40. > :15:45.classes are filled with boxers, two out of three women's weight classes,

:15:46. > :15:47.the largest team since Los Angeles 1984, their lightweight

:15:48. > :15:51.representative Joe Cordina is in with the experienced and equally

:15:52. > :15:57.talented offering in Charly Suarez, switching his feet and bustling, a

:15:58. > :16:01.busy boxer. In this contest, intriguingly poised, on a knife edge

:16:02. > :16:05.coming into this third and final round. That was a super shot from

:16:06. > :16:09.Cordina, the right hook on the inside, with a cracking punch. Now

:16:10. > :16:14.he has two concentrate. You know that your man is coming for you, he

:16:15. > :16:17.has his bit between his teeth, concentration levels are high,

:16:18. > :16:21.hitting him as he comes, then move off to the side, that's the order of

:16:22. > :16:30.the day for Joe quantity that in this match now. -- Joe Cordina.

:16:31. > :16:37.Great Olympians over the years, with Joe Selby and Evans in London 2012

:16:38. > :16:42.who came away with a silver, that is who Cordina is trying to emulate, in

:16:43. > :16:47.his efforts to make the medal podium.

:16:48. > :16:55.Ralph Evans, and Fred Evans from London 2012. It is a tightly and

:16:56. > :17:00.closely run contest beyond the point of this third and final round, one

:17:01. > :17:03.would expect a grandstand finish from either boxer could be

:17:04. > :17:07.significant in determining the outcome of this bout.

:17:08. > :17:12.The better quality coming from Cordina here, he has to do more of

:17:13. > :17:17.it, satisfying those judges that he is not just try to make this

:17:18. > :17:21.contest, he has to do a bit more now, Cordina, in and out, step on

:17:22. > :17:24.the gas a bit. He is against an opponent who is not as talented but

:17:25. > :17:31.determined, which is always dangerous. The Philippines came here

:17:32. > :17:36.with only one boxing coach for their two-man team. They will be drafting

:17:37. > :17:39.in Kevin Smith, the former consultant to the Philippines, the

:17:40. > :17:44.man from Merseyside, the full-time coach of Australia but do not be

:17:45. > :17:48.surprised if you see him helping out with the Philippines boxing team if

:17:49. > :17:51.they progress. Joe Cordina is focused and really firing sharply

:17:52. > :17:57.with his right hand. A wonderful left hand from the man in blue. A

:17:58. > :18:03.simple shot and a simple jab, a lovely right hook on the inside,

:18:04. > :18:06.quality work from Cordina, pushing his opponent back occasionally with

:18:07. > :18:14.those kinds of shots. Keeping the judges happy. There is the ten

:18:15. > :18:19.second clap, a good hand to be solar plexus from Cordina, keeping his

:18:20. > :18:23.right hand cocked, southpaw momentarily. Fainting and fidgeting.

:18:24. > :18:27.Concluding what has been a high-quality 60 kilograms

:18:28. > :18:32.lightweight contest, both men think that they've done enough, Joe

:18:33. > :18:36.Cordina pumps his right fist to the crowd in attendance here at the

:18:37. > :18:43.Pavilion in Rio Centre. Remember, it was a very intriguingly poised

:18:44. > :18:47.coming into the third and final round.

:18:48. > :18:50.Big Fraser Clark is supporting the team, one of the best super

:18:51. > :18:56.heavyweights in the world. But it is Joe Joyce who got it here in Rio

:18:57. > :19:01.2016. The better quality work came from Cordina that, I think I will be

:19:02. > :19:05.surprised if this goes against him. I think Cordina has done enough to

:19:06. > :19:10.win, switched off in the second but he won in the third for me, so he

:19:11. > :19:17.should get it... Nervous moments for both of the boxes now. But we have

:19:18. > :19:21.just witnessed a wonderful bout, this is taking a while to make its

:19:22. > :19:25.way up to the public address announcer which means we could head

:19:26. > :19:30.for a split decision. The boxes will be replaying the contest in their

:19:31. > :19:37.minds now, when did I catch him? Have I done enough? -- the boxes

:19:38. > :19:41.will be replaying the contest in their minds. Ladies and gentlemen,

:19:42. > :20:03.the winner by split decision... Joe Cordina. Joe Cordina has his

:20:04. > :20:06.hand raised on a split decision victory. Over the 14th ranked boxer

:20:07. > :20:18.in the world, Charlier -- Charly Suarez. It is a keenly

:20:19. > :20:21.contested a fair, big Fraser Clark cheering on his team-mate, and Joe

:20:22. > :20:26.Cordina takes a bow, acknowledging all sides of the arena here at

:20:27. > :20:33.Pavilion six in Rio Centre. Let's have a look at how he did it...

:20:34. > :20:39.It's a clear 3-point margin advantage, Judge see clearly

:20:40. > :20:44.favoured the work of Cordina, but 2-1, Joe Cordina is through to the

:20:45. > :20:47.second round of the men's 60 kilograms lightweight tournament

:20:48. > :21:01.where he will face the tournament number five seed -- Judge C. He will

:21:02. > :21:05.face Hurshid Tojibaev, a wonderful performance, digging it out when

:21:06. > :21:13.necessary, going through to the second round of the men's 60

:21:14. > :21:17.kilograms lightweight tournament. Overall, I think it was a good

:21:18. > :21:21.performance from Claudine, he fell apart in the second round, I think

:21:22. > :21:26.mentally, just letting it slip a little -- Joe Cordina. I think the

:21:27. > :21:31.better quality work definitely in that last round got him over the

:21:32. > :21:39.line, he has got the first under his belt, get those nerves out of the

:21:40. > :21:43.way. He goes to retrieve the second round of the men's 60 kilograms

:21:44. > :21:47.lightweight tournament, he has to win five contests if he hopes to

:21:48. > :21:51.claim the Olympic Golf Course but he has done the first part of his

:21:52. > :21:57.mission by winning his opening contest, and he goes through to the

:21:58. > :22:05.second round where he will face Hurshid Tojibaev of Uzbekistan, the

:22:06. > :22:10.tournament's number five seed. DAN: We will be back to the box and

:22:11. > :22:14.later, thank you to Richie and Ron, we will hear Joe Cordina's reaction

:22:15. > :22:22.to making it through to the second round, good work seeing of Charly

:22:23. > :22:27.Suarez. You may be settling into evening Olympics, there's a huge

:22:28. > :22:31.offering of Olympic coverage on the BBC over the next 16 days, and it's

:24:09. > :24:13.back and hit him as he came in, and put him under pressure. I thought I

:24:14. > :24:19.executed perfectly. You seemed calm but it was a split decision? The

:24:24. > :24:28.rounds, it is what it is, they are there to judge and I am there to

:24:29. > :24:31.box. I got the win, that is the main thing. You said before the

:24:32. > :24:35.tournament the gold medal was your aim, after that, are you still

:24:36. > :24:39.confident? Yes, my first fight is always the shaky one in every

:24:40. > :24:43.tournament, I look to improve in every fight, the gold is there for

:25:05. > :25:08.and see what I can do to beat him. And move on. It is tough, but I'm

:27:47. > :27:50.you earlier how busy it is at Copacabana beach, I don't think

:27:51. > :27:53.fishing is yet an Olympic event, it probably will be an future!

:27:54. > :27:59.They are broadening things every time. It is always busy, behind us

:28:03. > :28:07.It was packed earlier, this is where the road race started and then aged.

:28:08. > :28:10.Great hopes for Team GB of Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas perhaps come

:28:11. > :28:14.on home with a medal but unfortunately none of them managed

:28:15. > :28:17.to be in the top three, Geraint Thomas crashed in the final descent

:28:18. > :28:21.and Chris Froome finished outside of the top ten.

:28:22. > :28:27.Belgian break... Icon from under his surname, he managed to win the gold

:28:28. > :28:31.medal -- I cannot remember his surname.

:28:32. > :28:34.It is not in my book, but Belgian one the road race.

:28:35. > :28:39.In four days, Chris Froome has the chance to win the time trial, that

:28:40. > :28:42.is what Bradley Wiggins managed to four years ago.

:28:43. > :28:48.He went to the Olympics having won the Tour de France, that is winning

:28:49. > :28:55.gold in the time trial, and it was Greg frame... Chris Froome... Greg!

:28:56. > :29:00.Chris Froome won the bronze medal in that time trial four years ago, can

:29:01. > :29:03.he win the gold this time around? Four days away.

:29:04. > :29:08.Let's bring you some football live on BBC Four. Later we have the USA

:29:09. > :29:13.taking on France, they are the third ranked side in the world at the

:29:14. > :29:18.moment, but there's a back story to hope Solo, the American goalkeeper

:29:19. > :29:22.Beale doing up to her 200th cab, and in the build-up to the Olympic

:29:23. > :29:27.tournament, she got in a spot of bother for putting these pictures on

:29:28. > :29:35.Instagram -- Hope Solo. It was all about the Zika virus, she had her

:29:36. > :29:38.anti-mosquitoes paraphernalia. This is what happened when they played

:29:39. > :29:52.New Zealand in the opening game on Wednesday... A loud cry of "Zika"

:29:53. > :29:57.when she kicked the ball. Her next cap is against France, ranked third

:29:58. > :30:03.in the world, they won beating Colombia 4-0, that is in group G,

:30:04. > :30:07.live commentary picking up in a moment, that is taking place in Belo

:30:08. > :30:09.Horizonte, we had a gold a couple of moments ago, let's bring in our

:30:10. > :30:25.commentator. Here is Dwayne. And opportunity, Megan Brian had the

:30:26. > :30:30.chance. Eventually bundled in. United States have opened the

:30:31. > :30:37.scoring. It has come late but come through their inspirational cap and,

:30:38. > :30:43.Charlie Lloyd. It is a team effort, the pressure has been building and

:30:44. > :30:51.it has been coming. The United States fans celebrate, they lead the

:30:52. > :30:59.third best side in the world by 1-0. It has been a long time coming.

:31:00. > :31:12.Fired in a thunderous effort. There are two clean-up was the cap to,

:31:13. > :31:20.Carly Lloyd. -- captain. USA lead France by 1-0, 15 minutes to go. We

:31:21. > :31:43.will join live commentary. United States taking on France.

:31:44. > :31:52.A foul. Needs to be careful here. Slightly frustrated.

:31:53. > :32:18.France double the number of fouls than the United States have

:32:19. > :32:20.committed. Deep ball in. Head on the end of it. She cannot correct this

:32:21. > :32:38.effort. Less than 15 minutes for France to

:32:39. > :32:42.find an equaliser. United States looking for another 3-pointer and

:32:43. > :32:53.the 13 successive -- 13 successive victory. London 2012, very

:32:54. > :32:58.successful year for the women's team from the United States in terms of

:32:59. > :33:02.their impressive runs at tournaments. It was the first time

:33:03. > :33:14.that they had won every single one of their matches. They lost the odd

:33:15. > :33:24.group game on their way previously. They had drawn a couple as well.

:33:25. > :33:30.There is the new player on. Delie. Hope Solo gets it away and it is

:33:31. > :33:36.cleared by O'Hara. That was down low and to her right. Hope Solo very

:33:37. > :33:40.tall and so were dangerous. It skipped off the surface and it was

:33:41. > :34:03.denied. 64th international goal. Here is the goal again, Lloyd,

:34:04. > :34:09.having bumped it home after Heath's effort came off the woodwork.

:34:10. > :34:19.Ricocheted kindly for Carly Lloyd and the disbelief from the French

:34:20. > :34:25.player. A short while after that, the header from Delie been saved by

:34:26. > :34:27.Hope Solo. He has gone into an attacking position since the

:34:28. > :35:00.substitution. -- Heath. Heath. Ask Alex Morgan to chase but

:35:01. > :35:13.that was a little too strong once again. Alex Morgan. Another player

:35:14. > :35:25.who is scoring a goal more than every two Games for the United

:35:26. > :35:31.States. -- matches. 12 goals in 14 matches so far. Clearly one of the

:35:32. > :35:57.strikes against New Zealand in their opening game. Would you believe it?

:35:58. > :36:02.France agonisingly close. That must have been a hard in your throat

:36:03. > :36:10.moment, for the United States players, they look shell-shocked.

:36:11. > :36:18.Hope Solo answers it away. The height advantage is fairly

:36:19. > :36:26.significant -- punches it away. A little tumble, a second yellow card

:36:27. > :36:32.in the match. Ten minutes to play, France are down by one and Krieger,

:36:33. > :36:44.a short while ago, having hit the side netting,

:36:45. > :36:53.... Taking the set piece. The United States happy to count down the

:36:54. > :37:16.clock. Lovely. Until the shot. Alex Morgan

:37:17. > :37:21.thought she would try her luck from a little way out. Slightly

:37:22. > :37:27.overzealous. She has got the ability to create those opportunities during

:37:28. > :37:41.a match and she has dazzled before a long-range strike. -- with a

:37:42. > :37:50.long-range strike. She is a little frustrated, waiting for a double

:37:51. > :38:01.substitution. Carly Lloyd looking around. Abily has been taken off for

:38:02. > :38:35.France. Carly Lloyd, the captain has been

:38:36. > :38:42.taken of. Looking a little questioningly at her coat was Carly

:38:43. > :38:48.Lloyd but eventually left the field of play. France are on the attack.

:38:49. > :38:51.Ball in, scrambling and Hope Solo takes command. Smothers the ball,

:38:52. > :39:09.clutches onto it for dear life. There would have been questions

:39:10. > :39:38.asked if France had scored from that set piece.

:39:39. > :40:04.Ball in, she gets a head on this one but it is split to wave. -- it is

:40:05. > :40:31.flicked it away. Confirmation of the substitution for

:40:32. > :40:48.flam -- France. Little run here, the United States

:40:49. > :40:51.again searching for a second goal, a cushioning goal, any opportunity to

:40:52. > :41:17.run down the clock. Cut back. Fuste away. Five minutes

:41:18. > :41:42.to play and it is still not United States having it all their own way.

:41:43. > :42:07.Five minutes to play. Over. That is that. She was unable to keep up ball

:42:08. > :42:13.in play. -- Delie was unable to keep that all in play. She wants to see

:42:14. > :42:24.the end of this game. A good defender. Did not make an appearance

:42:25. > :42:33.inside the opening game. She will be happy to have another international

:42:34. > :42:47.appearance behind. Makes way. -- Delie makes way.

:42:48. > :42:56.Dangerous player, someone who has the ability to change the match.

:42:57. > :43:06.Ball in, too many players wanting it and in the end it is a collision

:43:07. > :43:32.tween the two substitutes. -- between.

:43:33. > :44:01.Great chance for France again. Plenty of possibility and ultimately

:44:02. > :44:11.no reward, all Harrer licks that all to safety. -- Kelli O'Hara. The

:44:12. > :44:16.United States have not been convincing in this match overall

:44:17. > :44:23.that they could finish it off here. She claims that Sinn and sees this

:44:24. > :44:27.ball clear. Verging on desperation now rather than just urgency from

:44:28. > :44:39.France in the closing stages of this game.

:44:40. > :44:57.A flick over the top. She is a PSG striker who will win the corner for

:44:58. > :45:04.France. There is the coach. Calling for instructions. Watching rather

:45:05. > :45:18.anxiously at the closing stages of this tie.

:45:19. > :45:30.Hits the post. Another corner has been called. It might have been a

:45:31. > :45:37.goal kick, but in the penultimate minute of this tie, France have a

:45:38. > :45:43.set piece opportunity. Solo, fuming at her defenders. France for the set

:45:44. > :45:52.piece again. Some jersey tugging going on, and France don't get away

:45:53. > :45:59.with it. Third and final substitution here. Another Chicago

:46:00. > :46:06.red stars player is going to make her way on here. Christen Press

:46:07. > :46:20.comes on. Meghan Klingenberg makes her way off.

:46:21. > :46:28.Well, she had nine minutes off the bench in her first game, Christen

:46:29. > :46:31.Press. She only has added time virtually to play in this match. And

:46:32. > :46:38.there is not going to be a significant amount of that either.

:46:39. > :46:42.She is a part of the United States Olympic squad, she has an

:46:43. > :46:46.opportunity to win an Olympic medal in this tournament, looking for

:46:47. > :46:50.successive victory is here. The goalkeeper is off line, Alex Morgan

:46:51. > :46:56.has beat in two French players, looks to send it back to anybody.

:46:57. > :47:01.Anybody who is rushing forward to the French goal to cap it into the

:47:02. > :47:07.open net. The United States lead France by Carli Lloyd's goal. And

:47:08. > :47:09.France are looking for a favourite come from behind draw, desperate for

:47:10. > :47:27.an equaliser here. Morgan back again. Wins the free

:47:28. > :47:34.kick. A little theatrical in her reaction. Just take you to wildly at

:47:35. > :47:42.the referee, trying to communicate has much. The Uruguayan referee,

:47:43. > :47:47.Claudio Paredes, she has been convincing and commanding in her

:47:48. > :47:48.calls. -- Claudia Peres. What has she got? Looking up at the

:47:49. > :48:40.scoreboard. Calling for it, once possession,

:48:41. > :48:46.Henry got a touch. Continues on her way. The free kick goes the way of

:48:47. > :48:46.the United States. Again, Henry, battling away, a tenacious

:48:47. > :49:17.character. Closing stages. O'Hara says anywhere

:49:18. > :49:23.will do. 30 odd seconds of added time remaining. The United States

:49:24. > :49:31.holding on for what will be a record 13th successive victory in Olympic

:49:32. > :49:43.football tournament history in the women's draw.

:49:44. > :49:52.That is the end of it. United States extend their record in women's

:49:53. > :49:56.Olympic football tournament is the 13th successive victory is now,

:49:57. > :50:01.going back to Beijing 2008. Carli Lloyd's goal the difference between

:50:02. > :50:05.the sides. It took over an hour to come. Tobin Heath set it up, would

:50:06. > :50:11.work out, and ultimately Carli Lloyd with a critical goal for her nation

:50:12. > :50:15.takes her up to 90 international goals and is just ten away from

:50:16. > :50:20.becoming only the sixth woman in United States football history to

:50:21. > :50:25.reach the magical century of goals. For the United States as a team,

:50:26. > :50:31.though, another victory for Hope Solo on an individual note, heard

:50:32. > :50:37.200 international appearance ends with her keeping her 102nd clean

:50:38. > :50:43.sheet and helping the United States to their 153rd victory in a match in

:50:44. > :50:47.which she has played. She will undoubtedly go down as one of the

:50:48. > :50:53.world's greatest players, the first ever goalkeeper, male or female, to

:50:54. > :50:57.reach 200 international appearances. And she has done it in Belo

:50:58. > :51:00.Horizonte at the Olympic Games, Hope Solo, and she will celebrate long

:51:01. > :51:05.and hard with her team-mates. There is much to be done yet in the

:51:06. > :51:09.women's football tournament, but they now have a pronominal platform

:51:10. > :51:13.from which to launch the campaign for golf. Two victories from two

:51:14. > :51:17.matches. For France, it will be back to the drawing board, but they have

:51:18. > :51:21.won group stage match to come, that is against New Zealand. As a match

:51:22. > :51:25.that will replace the current of the United States taking on Columbia in

:51:26. > :51:28.their final group match. Both however will be confident of

:51:29. > :51:33.advancing to the knockout stages of this competition. France had their

:51:34. > :51:38.moment of domination in this game. United States, they were hardly

:51:39. > :51:45.convincing. But today perhaps they will also that the result against

:51:46. > :52:03.the third best team in the world was more important than the performance.

:52:04. > :52:29.# Witness the fitness... # On hope, one quest. # Witness the fitness...

:55:01. > :55:03.been the first day of the Olympics and the first day of the Olympic

:55:04. > :55:07.competition. Great Britain are hopeful of a medal in the rugby

:55:08. > :55:10.sevens. It has been the women's sport today, the favourite of

:55:11. > :55:14.Australia, they have been professional since it was announced

:55:15. > :55:18.the sport would be included in the game. The Aussies or import a. The

:55:19. > :55:25.top three teams go to the quarterfinals plus the two best

:55:26. > :55:29.third-place side -- pool A. Fiji has a great love of this game. Let's

:55:30. > :55:36.joint Eddie Butler and Sir Clive Woodward for commentary on this one.

:55:37. > :55:41.COMMENTATOR: It is the last Game of the Day, the only clash of the day

:55:42. > :55:44.between two Maxine... Teams that are unbeaten after one round. Fiji beat

:55:45. > :55:51.the United States to kick against Australia. Australia were in periods

:55:52. > :56:05.in their victory over Colombia earlier. Australia very much

:56:06. > :56:14.favourites. Australia get the penalty. Charlotte Caslick. She is

:56:15. > :56:19.with the pass. Chloe Dalton, and look for the forward pass, it will

:56:20. > :56:34.not be given. It is going for Emilee Cherry. There I must say, the past

:56:35. > :56:39.did look slightly forward going. Wonderful skills, a great try by the

:56:40. > :56:42.Australian women. Emilee Cherry, looking very, very special. Great

:56:43. > :56:51.pass by Catholic mayor. That is good. -- great pass by Catholic. The

:56:52. > :56:59.ball was pointing forward -- I Charlotte Caslick. It was not given,

:57:00. > :57:04.these things happen. A great start by Australia. Out of all the teams,

:57:05. > :57:08.the Australian team keeps the width of the whole field. There is always

:57:09. > :57:13.a player on either side in that first few seconds in this game. That

:57:14. > :57:17.is so hard to defend because they have got the passing skills to get

:57:18. > :57:21.the players left or right. They really play with the width, this

:57:22. > :57:25.Australian team, because they have got great passes. Chloe Dalton, oh,

:57:26. > :57:35.different, kicking the ball together. Straight down towards the

:57:36. > :57:42.Fijian goal-line. Now then, if they can get the ball away, oh, that is

:57:43. > :57:48.brilliant. To get out of their 22, there is a long way to go yet, but

:57:49. > :57:57.so far, so very good. And then they spoil it. Penalty in front the

:57:58. > :58:05.knock-on. Never mind, just a sign of the danger that comes with all

:58:06. > :58:12.Fijian sides. Australia prepare to slow it all down. You can go

:58:13. > :58:17.backwards and then speed, check the pace through Charlotte Caslick. Good

:58:18. > :58:21.pressure by Fiji, and from an offside position. Sara Cox of

:58:22. > :58:30.Britain is the referee. Charlie Williams charging dock. -- charging

:58:31. > :58:41.up. Another advantage to Australia. Cherry.

:58:42. > :58:53.On the outside for the try. Seriously great finish. They have

:58:54. > :58:58.played this game quicker. They have always got the width for the try.

:58:59. > :59:06.That was a wonderful finish by Emma Tonegato. The passing skill that we

:59:07. > :59:11.have seen. There are, very special. Very special. They play with great

:59:12. > :59:18.with, greater than any other team in the tournament -- great width.

:59:19. > :59:34.This is Chloe Dalton, who has been the kicker of the day. Not that

:59:35. > :59:38.time. Again, it came from a Fiji and error, a Fijian knock-on. You can't

:59:39. > :59:41.beat these top teams if you are going to give silly possessions

:59:42. > :59:47.away. The Fijians have got to keep hold of the ball and make the

:59:48. > :59:56.Australian defence. -- make the Australians defend.

:59:57. > :00:12.Well taken by Litia Naiqato. A bit of trouble, but they get it away.

:00:13. > :00:19.There is a chance here of acceleration. But another careless

:00:20. > :00:26.mistake, and they take over. Charlotte Parry.

:00:27. > :00:39.Rebecca stops Australia in their tracks. Absolute poetry. Charlotte,

:00:40. > :01:01.Balint. Their balance, therefore work,, what a

:01:02. > :01:14.wonderful player -- there are fit work. -- there are footwork. They

:01:15. > :01:29.have got to hold the ball to have any chance of beating that.

:01:30. > :01:47.Takes the restart. Chloe Dalton. She will pick her spot and she will not

:01:48. > :01:58.be far off. I gain they go long. -- again. They have decided that they

:01:59. > :02:17.are going to pen CG straight that in their 22. -- CG. -- Fiji. Fiji

:02:18. > :02:24.cannot handle the pressure from the Australian defence. Better

:02:25. > :02:29.scrummage, that of a scramble for Australia. When they have

:02:30. > :02:43.possession, that is what really counts. It goes to Green. Australia

:02:44. > :02:53.should have the throw. I have a gone first from Australia, I will go

:02:54. > :02:59.scrum, Fiji. Not gone first. -- not on.

:03:00. > :03:11.Very powerful, Australia. It has been the tale of the first half that

:03:12. > :03:19.Fiji will have to start from very deep, five metres from their own

:03:20. > :03:35.line. Quick free kick, grow. Awkwardly taken. -- kick. A bit too

:03:36. > :03:48.quick. Let us go, please. Fiji, Fiji! Well, let us see what comes of

:03:49. > :03:57.this, nothing so far, Green spins and delivers a superb pass. Recovers

:03:58. > :04:03.to play scrum-half, Shannon Parry says enough is enough, let us take a

:04:04. > :04:20.break, 19-0, Australia lead at half-time. That was a try. Not quite

:04:21. > :04:25.sure what that was all about. I really do not understand why Shannon

:04:26. > :04:40.Parry proved the ball into the beautiful Brazilian sky. -- kick.

:04:41. > :04:44.Maybe they see that they are in full control of this game going into

:04:45. > :04:59.tomorrow. They have the easiest task of all

:05:00. > :05:09.the teams, really. All the teams have a major clash on their hands.

:05:10. > :05:22.They look so confident. All are happy to stand in the wide channels.

:05:23. > :05:26.You have to watch these tries. The one player who does not take to the

:05:27. > :05:37.wide channel is Charlotte Caslick who takes everything down the middle

:05:38. > :05:51.of the park. Her sweeping, allows her to cut the gap. Give her one on

:05:52. > :05:58.one and she will score. Let us hope that Fiji can find on in here. They

:05:59. > :06:06.are going OK, 19-0 is not beyond them.

:06:07. > :06:23.In the first game, Louise for Fiji was so good as. She went off injured

:06:24. > :06:28.but she is playing now, number 11. She was such an important character

:06:29. > :06:33.for Fiji and I wonder if she is fully fit. Here is the restart.

:06:34. > :06:42.Given away again, possession for Australia and they build through

:06:43. > :06:47.Dalton and Charlotte Caslick. Green. Hops out of one, dances out of

:06:48. > :06:50.another. Those two ground. Penalty advantageous being played, not gone

:06:51. > :07:14.advantage. -- advantage -- knock-on. Green took exception to that. A very

:07:15. > :07:18.physical challenge on her. Not gone is the end result, Australian ball.

:07:19. > :07:55.-- not on. -- knock-on. Australia through Emily Chery.

:07:56. > :08:02.Shannon Parry. Australia less in periods when it is tight and

:08:03. > :08:08.physical. Even Charlotte Caslick throws it at a little untidy and

:08:09. > :08:19.Australia are still in possession. Charlene Williams, the captain.

:08:20. > :08:25.Dalton. That was not a great pass from the Australians. You can see

:08:26. > :08:38.the pressure, their Fiji women where they are, they can make stakes as

:08:39. > :08:49.well. -- they can make this state. -- mistake.

:08:50. > :09:22.Australia are back in possession. Green those on the outside. -- green

:09:23. > :09:33.is on the outside. They might check this.

:09:34. > :09:43.She has been very impressive, she has had a lot of the ball, that took

:09:44. > :09:46.some finishing. She was born in Fiji and only started playing the game

:09:47. > :10:00.three years ago, if you have skill and talent, Rugby sevens will suit

:10:01. > :10:12.you. She is now the star of the best team in the world. No conversion.

:10:13. > :10:19.The result is not in doubt now, Australia will go into the match

:10:20. > :10:40.against the USA as the outstanding team in their group.

:10:41. > :10:59.She got hands to that. Australia ball, though. Back out into the

:11:00. > :11:12.three quarters. Charlotte Caslick picks the throw. Scrum-half.

:11:13. > :11:20.Overthrown. Away come Fiji. Wide. On the switch. Rebecca. Penalty to

:11:21. > :11:29.Australia and Fiji have to get back quickly. They take the ball so

:11:30. > :11:39.quickly. Everything goes so quickly. Williams delivers. Charlotte

:11:40. > :11:56.Caslick. Stand through. And the second one, did she score? Is it?

:11:57. > :12:09.Any rug the team should watch that again -- any rugby team. Try

:12:10. > :12:18.awarded. Watching Charlotte Caslick kick the ball, it was a brilliant

:12:19. > :12:36.kick. Wonderful cake. That took a lot of skill. The try comes from

:12:37. > :12:48.this. -- kick. That is great skills from Emma Tonegato. The try is

:12:49. > :12:50.given. We are going to leave the rugby sevens because we promised you

:12:51. > :13:01.live boxing and and we are moving to the

:13:02. > :13:24.boxing. That is the man that Lawrence Okolie

:13:25. > :13:30.will have to overcome. The Polish contender. Lawrence Okolie has 25

:13:31. > :13:36.fights under his belt coming into real 2016. He is about to hear his

:13:37. > :13:41.name announced by the public address announcer. He gets himself familiar

:13:42. > :13:48.under the lights of the Olympic boxing ring. Very confident

:13:49. > :13:58.character indeed, Lawrence Okolie, very experienced. Does not give

:13:59. > :14:15.anyone respect. He is tall, rangy and he is difficult to beat.

:14:16. > :14:24.The man wearing red has made a great start. Lawrence Okolie, 23 years old

:14:25. > :14:28.and his opponent wearing blue is from Poland. Both of these men

:14:29. > :14:33.competing in their first Olympic Games. He scored with a good right

:14:34. > :14:55.uppercut. He has made a blistering start here,

:14:56. > :14:58.scoring with the right-hand and Igor Jakubowski is under pressure early.

:14:59. > :15:05.Tremendous start from Lawrence Okolie. He is using his jab and

:15:06. > :15:11.measuring the distance before he is throwing that right-hand, sensible

:15:12. > :15:16.start, fast out of the blocks, Lawrence Okolie. Igor Jakubowski has

:15:17. > :15:22.a real problem, when he closes that gap down, right uppercut comes his

:15:23. > :15:25.way so Lawrence Okolie can box long but he can shorten it with that

:15:26. > :15:33.right uppercut. The problem for the Polish boxer.

:15:34. > :15:39.Okolie is a confident character, which has been alluded to, as he

:15:40. > :15:44.gets in his grave, a very difficult man to beat indeed. He knows just

:15:45. > :15:49.about every shot in the book. But when that left jab gets working, it

:15:50. > :15:53.is long and straight and strong. It can serve as an effective deterrent

:15:54. > :15:58.to prevent boxers trying to get inside him. Started brightly here,

:15:59. > :16:04.Jakubowski trying to land single shots of his own. Just got to steady

:16:05. > :16:09.up a little bit, Lawrence Okolie. He wants to keep the point is accurate.

:16:10. > :16:13.If he misses the target, that will give just the Polisky a chance to

:16:14. > :16:18.come back with an overhand right. -- Jakubowski. He has got to watch out,

:16:19. > :16:23.he has got to be accurate with the jab and box at range. If he misses

:16:24. > :16:29.the target with the lead hand, that will give Jakubowski a chance to

:16:30. > :16:33.land the right-hand counter. Okolie, a student at East London University,

:16:34. > :16:42.where he is studying psychosocial or do. -- psychosocial orgies. He has

:16:43. > :16:52.deferred his studies until next year -- he is studying psychology and

:16:53. > :16:56.social G. Just backed off a little bit. The effect of the right hand.

:16:57. > :17:02.Momentarily he felt that. You can just tell when a boxer has hurt a

:17:03. > :17:08.little bit. I think dockable ski was there. Back with the left- right

:17:09. > :17:14.combination, just short of the mark on that occasion. A very good

:17:15. > :17:20.opening round of boxing on the Olympic debut of Lawrence Okolie.

:17:21. > :17:25.Jakubowski is in the blue corner. But over in the red corner, the GB

:17:26. > :17:32.coaches will be quite happy with the work of their man. That was a very

:17:33. > :17:37.dominant round of boxing and Lawrence Okolie. Tremendous work at

:17:38. > :17:42.range. Oxime behind that jab, a sensible start. Fast tempo -- boxing

:17:43. > :17:50.behind that jab. Keeping his opponent at bay. The scores are very

:17:51. > :17:58.positive for Okolie. Now we should see him. That is a great opening,

:17:59. > :18:04.for much and unexperienced international boxer, Lawrence Okolie

:18:05. > :18:07.--. An inexperienced boxer. Plenty of support and attendance for

:18:08. > :18:16.Lawrence Okolie. He prepares to once the bell for the second round. -- to

:18:17. > :18:19.once the bell. A left hook followed a right-hand, forcing Jakubowski to

:18:20. > :18:23.touch down. The referee says that was a slip, he may well have lost

:18:24. > :18:29.his footing but he took a couple of shots from the man in red. Okolie on

:18:30. > :18:35.the rampage once more. Just got to steady himself here, Lawrence

:18:36. > :18:39.Okolie, landing big as -- bigot shots. It was a definite punch that

:18:40. > :18:45.caused the knockdown, but Okolie has the steady himself. -- Aegerter

:18:46. > :18:50.shots. That will give Jakubowski a chance to work on the inside. It is

:18:51. > :18:55.good work for Okolie. He has got to keep it going and maintain the gap

:18:56. > :18:58.between himself and his opponent. Four years ago, Lawrence Okolie was

:18:59. > :19:07.working at a well-known fast food burger chain. He saw Anthony Joshua

:19:08. > :19:10.win Olympic gold. And then he took himself down to the boxing gym in an

:19:11. > :19:15.effort to shift some weight, he was diagnosed as clinically obese and

:19:16. > :19:20.his weight had ballooned up to 120 kilograms. And that is when he

:19:21. > :19:28.discovered his fantastic powered in the boxing ring. And after just 23

:19:29. > :19:33.bouts in a first, 25 bouts before Rio because he competed in the World

:19:34. > :19:37.Series boxing as well -- in a vest. He finds himself in the opening

:19:38. > :19:41.round of the Olympic boxing tournament, boxing very effectively

:19:42. > :19:45.indeed against the experience Jakubowski. He is boxing very well,

:19:46. > :19:50.but making the odd array here and there, allowing Jakubowski to get a

:19:51. > :19:54.bit closer. Jakubowski is taking all the shots on the bows, he knows he

:19:55. > :19:58.cannot break the gap and the distance down, she is edging up --

:19:59. > :20:03.on the elbows. He is looking for a single shot, maybe over the top. If

:20:04. > :20:08.Lawrence Okolie follows shot or misses the target, that is what

:20:09. > :20:15.here's hoping, to land one. He is still dangerous, the poll. He is

:20:16. > :20:19.powerful, he is looking for a shot that may stop or knock Okolie out,

:20:20. > :20:26.that is what here's hoping for. Reigning European Championship

:20:27. > :20:30.silver medallist, Jakubowski. He won the EU European title. A good left

:20:31. > :20:34.hand, the man in blue. He comes with a glittering set of credentials,

:20:35. > :20:40.nine Time national championship gold medallist between 2008 and 2014.

:20:41. > :20:44.Participating twice in a World Championships as well. Heaps of

:20:45. > :20:51.experience, compared to the still not as Lawrence Okolie. Okolie's

:20:52. > :20:55.talent is such and his desire of confidence -- the still not as

:20:56. > :21:04.Okolie. He has been able to make it through to the limbic tournament

:21:05. > :21:13.after just 25 contests -- novice. Feeling the pace slightly, Okolie,

:21:14. > :21:20.starting quick remember. They fit indeed. Another good round for

:21:21. > :21:23.Okolie, allowing duck ball skewed comeback in slightly. -- allowing

:21:24. > :21:36.the costly. He has forced Jakubowski to touch

:21:37. > :21:41.down, but he was not ruled. That was a tremendous shot that from Okolie.

:21:42. > :21:46.The start of the round. Look at the distance and leveraged that he gets

:21:47. > :21:48.there. That is his strength, when he is boxing at distance behind that

:21:49. > :22:00.left and straight right hand. Gary Hale in that corner. Let's look

:22:01. > :22:07.at the scores. Kohli has got it, he is very comfortable, he has the

:22:08. > :22:12.theatre -- Okolie. -- he has to see it out now.

:22:13. > :22:21.Into the third and final round we go. The man wearing red is Lawrence

:22:22. > :22:23.Okolie of Great Britain, the 23-year-old from East London finds

:22:24. > :22:30.himself in a pretty commanding position having taken the opening

:22:31. > :22:34.two rounds across the board from all three judges. Throughout this

:22:35. > :22:38.opening day of competition, he hopes to be crowned Olympic champion, you

:22:39. > :22:43.are going to have to go five times during the course of the tournament.

:22:44. > :22:49.So Okolie would do well to pace himself here. Ensure that he doesn't

:22:50. > :22:53.walk into anything silly or pick up an injury that could curtail his

:22:54. > :22:58.progress, because he is on the cusp of progressing through to the second

:22:59. > :23:02.round here. And he has built up a 20.20 lead from all three scoring

:23:03. > :23:06.judges. We couldn't hear what was said in the corner from Lawrence

:23:07. > :23:11.Okolie, but I think they are saying, get back to your boxing, keep the

:23:12. > :23:14.distance and get back behind jab, see the contest. When you are up

:23:15. > :23:18.against a Polish boxer, they are dangerous, they are well school,

:23:19. > :23:22.they produced great champions over the years, Poland. This fella will

:23:23. > :23:28.be dangerous right to the very last second, that is where Okolie has got

:23:29. > :23:33.to keep him concentration levels very high and boxed sensibly and

:23:34. > :23:37.keep the distance and the gap. He came through a really tough route of

:23:38. > :23:43.qualification, Jakubowski. He won the global Olympic of occasion event

:23:44. > :23:47.in Baku, Azerbaijan. He beat Rio Castillo of Ecuador, a hard-fought

:23:48. > :23:52.affair. He will continue to compete right up until the last, when he

:23:53. > :23:57.perhaps knows, the way that boxers do know, that he is trailing in this

:23:58. > :24:00.contest. He is looking to land something big and explosive to put

:24:01. > :24:07.Okolie on the compass and out of the contest. Good right-hand from Okolie

:24:08. > :24:11.-- on the canvas. Just walked back with his right leg as he handed it.

:24:12. > :24:17.Perhaps looking to feel the pace little bit now, Lawrence Okolie.

:24:18. > :24:22.Most important punch from Okolie is the jab, keep the distance, measure

:24:23. > :24:26.the gap, doesn't need to overreach with the right hand. That is what

:24:27. > :24:29.the kebab ski will one. His most important shot most definitely is

:24:30. > :24:34.the right hand over the top -- Jakubowski. He has the get his feet

:24:35. > :24:38.in the position to land that shot, Jakubowski, that is when he walks

:24:39. > :24:42.onto the big shots from Okolie. Difficult man to get to, Okolie, he

:24:43. > :24:47.uses his range very well. Inside the final 30 seconds now, concentration

:24:48. > :24:51.going to be absolutely key for Okolie to assure that he doesn't

:24:52. > :24:57.walk onto anything silly from his point of view. Jakubowski having

:24:58. > :25:03.more success, closing the distance, as perhaps Okolie begins to 30, his

:25:04. > :25:10.jab not as sharp as it was. There is the ten second club. Surely we will

:25:11. > :25:13.hear the final bell. -- clap. It should sue Lawrence Okolie get

:25:14. > :25:18.through to the second round. A strong finish by Jakubowski. But the

:25:19. > :25:22.two rounds of insurance built up by Okolie in rounds one and two should

:25:23. > :25:26.be enough to see him crowned the victor and go through to the second

:25:27. > :25:29.round of the 91 kilograms heavyweight one. A good performance

:25:30. > :25:35.from Okolie throughout the three rounds. He let it slip a little bit

:25:36. > :25:40.in the last round because he was feeling the pace little bit, but

:25:41. > :25:44.nevertheless, a great start to the contest for Okolie. He is seen now

:25:45. > :25:50.the box sensibly and he has learnt a lot from that. He has done well,

:25:51. > :25:53.there. Once we get the announcement, which we assume will declare Okolie

:25:54. > :26:01.as the winner in the second round of the tournament number two seed

:26:02. > :26:05.awaits. Those two men met earlier in the summer, and his opponent

:26:06. > :26:13.prevailed on a first round stoppage in World Series boxing at the five

:26:14. > :26:15.round competition, where boxers compete for their respective

:26:16. > :26:21.nations. That is the man who awaits in round number two. Okolie and

:26:22. > :26:23.Jakubowski embrace. Now let's go to the public address announcer and get

:26:24. > :26:52.the official announcement. CHEERING

:26:53. > :26:57.Ladies and gentlemen, the winner... Lawrence Okolie.

:26:58. > :27:01.COMMENTATOR: Lawrence Okolie through to the second round of the

:27:02. > :27:04.heavyweight Olympic tournament here in Rio 2016, acknowledging the

:27:05. > :27:09.support he is receiving from the crowd. In that second round he will

:27:10. > :27:14.meet the tournament number two seed, the reigning World Championship

:27:15. > :27:19.silver medallist and Olympia from 2012, the immensely talented Cuban

:27:20. > :27:23.boxer. STUDIO: Thank you, Ron. While we

:27:24. > :27:29.wait for Lawrence Okolie to make his way for a post-bout interview, let's

:27:30. > :27:33.wander around Copacabana in our Brazilian friends are over there

:27:34. > :27:38.enjoying themselves at beach bars, they are grooving away. This is a

:27:39. > :27:42.familiar sight right up and I'm Copacabana. They are singing in the

:27:43. > :27:46.early hours of the morning here -- up and down Copacabana. They are

:27:47. > :27:57.enjoying themselves with dancing and live music and cocktails. As we

:27:58. > :28:01.turned around this way,... Well, this is a rather large tractor

:28:02. > :28:04.collecting bins as well. Good evening, sir, this is a very

:28:05. > :28:07.important job, because when there are thousands of people on the

:28:08. > :28:12.beach, you know how busy it gets during the day, there is a gentleman

:28:13. > :28:15.fishing. Fishing is not an Olympic sport. Let's see, this could go

:28:16. > :28:23.hurriedly wrong. Good evening, what is your name, surprise have you

:28:24. > :28:29.caught anything? Can you show them, are they in the bag that? Can you

:28:30. > :28:38.show us? They don't look like the biggest fish I have ever seen. And

:28:39. > :28:55.what are they called? The name of the fish? They are ten fish. What

:28:56. > :29:01.are they called? Shova. Life fishing, what more could you want!

:29:02. > :29:06.Let's look around here -- Lyth fishing. We are at one end of cocoa

:29:07. > :29:12.cabana. We can walk for 20, 25 minutes, even half an hour where

:29:13. > :29:18.Sugarloaf Mountain is. We're not going to do that, not life walking

:29:19. > :29:21.on BBC Four! Down here is the BBC One studio, when Jason Mohammed is

:29:22. > :29:25.going to be taking you through the night throughout the course of the

:29:26. > :29:28.two weeks. If we were to walk about 20 minutes down here we would get to

:29:29. > :29:34.the Beach Volleyball Arena. That is where we are going to be shortly on

:29:35. > :29:37.BBC Four. We will show you life Beach Volleyball Arena later on.

:29:38. > :29:44.Sugarloaf is at the end. This is one of the sporting hubs at Rio 2016. We

:29:45. > :29:48.have the Olympic Park, and we have got Copacabana and the Deodoro.

:29:49. > :29:52.Debbie cabana is not only home to the beach bully or, it is also home

:29:53. > :29:58.to the road race -- Copacabana. -- Beach boy. Tomorrow it is the

:29:59. > :30:02.opportunity for Lizzie Armitstead to have a go, the women's road race is

:30:03. > :30:08.also going to take place right here on pleb cabana. We will cover that

:30:09. > :30:13.on and BBC Four as well. We have 16 days of full Olympic coverage for

:30:14. > :30:17.you. BBC One and BBC for our main live channels, and also we have got

:30:18. > :30:21.coverage throughout the website via the BBC sport ab. Whatever sport you

:30:22. > :30:26.would like to watch over the course of the Rio Olympics you can find it

:30:27. > :30:29.somewhere on the BBC. . We will hear from Lawrence Okolie very shortly,

:30:30. > :30:35.after his victory he is in to the second round of the boxing.

:30:36. > :30:42.We want you to feel inspired by the wonderful performances, there are so

:30:43. > :30:48.many athletes here and you will see them over the course of the next two

:30:49. > :30:51.weeks and they are doing so much hard work there want to ensure that

:30:52. > :30:57.they go home with something rather special.

:30:58. > :32:18.It is a great reminder of how much work was into making that Olympic

:32:19. > :32:22.dream. One man who is still sweating from his effort is Lawrence Okolie.

:32:23. > :32:28.What a fight that was, it looked like you enjoyed it. It was

:32:29. > :32:33.fantastic. It is about getting experience. I have been quite

:32:34. > :32:39.inexperienced. A big learning opportunity. Even though I want a

:32:40. > :32:42.gold medal, I am so been in the atmosphere and enjoying myself full

:32:43. > :32:49.is top tell people what you were doing during London 2012. I was

:32:50. > :32:54.working in a Donald and watching a few Olympic events in my lunch

:32:55. > :33:01.break. I managed to get myself here. It has only taken 25 bouts. You only

:33:02. > :33:12.made your debut for Team GB less than a year ago. It was in November.

:33:13. > :33:18.It has been massive. I want to shout out to the coaches and staff and

:33:19. > :33:22.without them, I would not have been the -- been able to push on as fast

:33:23. > :33:30.as I have. I want to shout out to all my family and friends. Someone

:33:31. > :33:34.else who's supported you is a company Joshua, your sparring

:33:35. > :33:48.partner. He has been a fantastic role model -- Anthony. There are

:33:49. > :33:56.year fans. I managed to come along way. Some of my friends and family

:33:57. > :34:01.have made the journey. It is an experience for them as well. I want

:34:02. > :34:08.to thank everyone back in London for supporting me as well. You will now

:34:09. > :34:18.face a big name Cuban boxer. Have you analysed him? He stopped me in

:34:19. > :34:23.my last fight two months ago. I will be facing my Demons. I will get that

:34:24. > :34:27.in there with someone who managed to do that and then I am hoping to go

:34:28. > :34:34.on and get the win. Thank you for your time. Brilliant talker,

:34:35. > :34:39.Lawrence Okolie, we will continue to follow him. We cut away from the

:34:40. > :34:46.rugby sevens to show you that fight and just to bring you up with the

:34:47. > :34:54.Australia Fiji game, it finished 53-0 to Australia. In group C, Great

:34:55. > :35:04.Britain have won both their Games so far over Brazil and Japan. They face

:35:05. > :35:11.Canada tomorrow, looks like a tasty clash. I spoke to Sir Clive Woodward

:35:12. > :35:15.to get his views. Thank you for talking to us. What have you made of

:35:16. > :35:24.the first day of the Olympics so far? It has been a wonderful day for

:35:25. > :35:29.the women's sevens tournament. Two outstanding teams, Australia and New

:35:30. > :35:37.Zealand, followed by the Canadian team and Team GB, a huge clash

:35:38. > :35:45.tomorrow between them. The Australians especially Charlotte

:35:46. > :35:49.cars like, they were remarkable. Carla McAllister was wonderful for

:35:50. > :35:55.the New Zealand team. Two standout players but Fiji did well, the USA

:35:56. > :36:00.team battled back, this evening's event was better, the heat really

:36:01. > :36:06.got to the team and Team GB were so much better this evening. Very

:36:07. > :36:11.confident they have a big match against Canada but as a sport,

:36:12. > :36:16.fantastic, the women did really well in a very busy day. What do you

:36:17. > :36:22.think the real challenges are for Team GB? The outstanding talent

:36:23. > :36:30.comes from Australia and New Zealand but how do you think they will do? I

:36:31. > :36:32.think Canada and Team GB can beat Australia and New Zealand, but today

:36:33. > :36:36.those teams were a cut above the rest. The key being about playing

:36:37. > :36:42.them, you have to keep hold of the ball. Every team that they play

:36:43. > :36:48.against gets pressurised. They have wonderful players in McAllister and

:36:49. > :36:53.Charlotte Caslick especially. If Team GB are to win, they have to

:36:54. > :36:57.keep hold of the ball and there were too many mistakes this morning. This

:36:58. > :37:03.evening was a lot better. Canada and Team GB can beat the favourites but

:37:04. > :37:07.it will be hard work but in rugby sevens you must keep the ball and if

:37:08. > :37:13.they can do that, they will have a wonderful Olympic Games. We have the

:37:14. > :37:17.men's rugby sevens to follow but I wanted to ask you about rug a sevens

:37:18. > :37:22.being in the Olympics, as a passionate rugby fans how do you

:37:23. > :37:30.feel about it being on the world stage? It is colossal. I was excited

:37:31. > :37:34.six years ago when the rugby sevens got the nod to be an Olympic sport.

:37:35. > :37:38.This development of the game, especially the women's game and to

:37:39. > :37:44.see how the women have come on, Fiji got a lot of investment from world

:37:45. > :37:47.rugby and so have Columbia and the smaller teams and they get better

:37:48. > :37:51.and better and when you see the sheer athleticism of some of the

:37:52. > :37:57.women athletes, it is wonderful to see. When you read all the CVs of

:37:58. > :38:03.the players involved, are lot of them have come from other sports, I

:38:04. > :38:06.think rugby is a wonderful athletic game that mums and dads will want

:38:07. > :38:12.their kids to play. We have seen some great athletes. I think it is

:38:13. > :38:17.important, it is a great game for men and women because of the sheer

:38:18. > :38:23.power and pace. Not so many rucks and all is as in the main game. We

:38:24. > :38:27.have seen some wonderful athletes, the women have done the game of

:38:28. > :38:32.rugby proud and it has been a privilege to be here to see it first

:38:33. > :38:36.hand and I think the Olympic family are delighted that rugby sevens is

:38:37. > :38:41.now a proper Olympic sport. It has been brilliant to watch. Just on

:38:42. > :38:49.that opportunity to showcase it, are you disappointed there are not more

:38:50. > :38:52.stars from the Home Nations? May be that could have got to grips with

:38:53. > :38:57.some of the people watching rugby for the first time. I am not sure.

:38:58. > :39:04.It is interesting to see what is happening because some of the star

:39:05. > :39:09.players like Quade Cooper, he did not make the Australian team, Brian

:39:10. > :39:14.Obama from South Africa has not made their team. It is a different game,

:39:15. > :39:18.you have to have amazing aerobic fitness and I think you will see

:39:19. > :39:21.this in the men's team when you see the Fiji team play. The amount of

:39:22. > :39:26.training they do is different from the 15 man game. If any of the

:39:27. > :39:31.big-name players that you talk about, from the UK or British game

:39:32. > :39:35.want to play in the Olympics, they have to give it at least 12 months

:39:36. > :39:39.or 24 months to get their aerobic fitness up to pace. It is a

:39:40. > :39:43.different game. The women's game today has been brilliant and we have

:39:44. > :39:46.some big heavyweight clash is coming tomorrow and the men's tournament

:39:47. > :39:50.when it starts and when you think of New Zealand and South Africa,

:39:51. > :39:54.Australia and all those amazing sides, Team GB, there will be great

:39:55. > :39:59.clashes and I think you will see some great athletes playing in the

:40:00. > :40:02.men's team and I'm not sure many of the star names would get into the

:40:03. > :40:06.team. Sonny Bill Williams is a big-name but he is not at an

:40:07. > :40:10.automatic start for the New Zealand team. Five more days of rugby sevens

:40:11. > :40:18.to look forward to, go and get some rest. Thank you. That was Sir Clive

:40:19. > :40:23.Woodward speaking to us earlier from the rugby sevens. We are on

:40:24. > :40:28.Copacabana and welcome to our coverage of the Olympic Games 2016

:40:29. > :40:35.in Rio. We have everything covered for you. One of the big stars, we

:40:36. > :40:42.thought beforehand it would be Adam PT, but today he broke a world

:40:43. > :40:48.record. In the first heat of the men's 100 metres breaststroke, he

:40:49. > :40:51.smashed his own world record. He came to these Olympic Games as a

:40:52. > :40:57.world record holder. You have to stay up quite late to see him in the

:40:58. > :41:00.semi-finals alongside Ross Murdoch in the men's 100m breaststroke and

:41:01. > :41:04.that will take place around three o'clock in the morning UK time. You

:41:05. > :41:11.will be able to see that on BBC One with Jason mohamid but we can hear

:41:12. > :41:14.more from Adam Peaty now. Before the Olympics, Rebecca Adlington went to

:41:15. > :41:28.see him in his training base in Loughborough. How are you? I am

:41:29. > :41:34.good. At five a.m., it you cannot go I am happy to be here. You're very

:41:35. > :41:39.positive. I will give you that. What a brilliant 100m breast stroke. Adam

:41:40. > :41:44.Peaty. While! Obviously you're on the block every day, do you

:41:45. > :41:49.visualise yourself in Rio? A little bit. I like to visualise a race.

:41:50. > :41:55.When you're in the water, all you can hear his numbers. When you take

:41:56. > :42:00.your first stroke it is so loud. This is a very big lead. It is not

:42:01. > :42:04.over. It looks like it might be Adam Peaty. He has got it on the last

:42:05. > :42:12.stroke and the world champion is Adam Peaty! Are you worried about a

:42:13. > :42:16.big crowd? I relish it. I love it. The more people the better. I can

:42:17. > :42:22.swim good that I cannot swim great when there is no crowd. You cannot

:42:23. > :42:33.say that, you broke the world record! It is different, it is

:42:34. > :42:41.London. I looked up at the scoreboard and it said 57.9. Your

:42:42. > :42:45.face! I looked at it and I looked at it again and then I had to take

:42:46. > :42:54.another look just to make sure it was not going to be adjusted. We are

:42:55. > :42:57.going fly kick underwater and then pull out. Do you think you would

:42:58. > :43:04.have had the same success without Mel? I do not think I would get

:43:05. > :43:09.anywhere near where am now. It has always been me and Mel and I trust

:43:10. > :43:15.to give me something ahead of the rest. He has said that he does not

:43:16. > :43:24.think he would have the success if he was not with you. You will make

:43:25. > :43:29.you cry on television! I am in a unique decision that I am able to

:43:30. > :43:32.have taken a 14-year-old young man to the Olympic Games as a world

:43:33. > :43:36.record-holder and I will always be thankful and tumble about that

:43:37. > :43:41.process. You know what the Olympics are like, you face all sorts of

:43:42. > :43:47.hurdles. I have got a boy that for eight years has never given in and

:43:48. > :43:50.have I taken their, who knows? I always think at Olympic Games, the

:43:51. > :43:55.amazing thing is that someone comes out and goes, hello, you have never

:43:56. > :44:03.heard of them, I was the underdog in Beijing... My goodness! It is! Do

:44:04. > :44:07.think there will be someone like that in the 100 metres breast book

:44:08. > :44:15.or do you think you are the best? Mel has always given me names, it is

:44:16. > :44:20.not a cockiness, it is more of a confidence. If someone pops out, so

:44:21. > :44:27.be it, I will welcome the challenge really. Looking at my training and

:44:28. > :44:31.where I am in the gym, I am definitely in the strongest position

:44:32. > :44:38.I have a Nairn. It is looking good. It is still my first Olympics. -- I

:44:39. > :44:43.have been in. I have proven I can come back with a few medals. I am

:44:44. > :44:51.hoping for my best possible performance. Hopefully he has got a

:44:52. > :44:55.big Olympic Games ahead and at three o'clock in the morning you can see

:44:56. > :44:59.Ross Murdoch and Adam Peaty goal in the semi-finals of the men's 100

:45:00. > :45:02.metres breaststroke. Will be concentrating on a number of sports

:45:03. > :45:07.over the next few hours, here is an idea of what you can watch at the

:45:08. > :45:10.moment. You can look at the Red Button, the sport at, there is

:45:11. > :45:18.women's weightlifting on the Red Button at the moment.

:45:19. > :45:25.Did you know that weightlifting provided Great Britain's first ever

:45:26. > :45:30.Olympic gold medal? It was a one arm lift at the inaugural modern games

:45:31. > :45:35.in Athens at 1896. You can dazzle your friends with that one! Also

:45:36. > :45:39.available on the Red Button it is the Superstars, the all-stars, the

:45:40. > :45:43.dream team of the USA, the basketball team and China. Team USA

:45:44. > :45:50.asked weighing on a luxury liner, the basketball side, just off the

:45:51. > :45:56.coast of Rio de Janeiro. -- are staying on a luxury liner. The USA

:45:57. > :46:01.are leading by 55-29. We will bring you some live table tennis. The

:46:02. > :46:07.combination is underway here in Rio. Two men's made it into the men's

:46:08. > :46:16.singles from Great Britain. Before we show you live action, here is

:46:17. > :46:24.everything you need to know about the magic of table tennis.

:46:25. > :46:30.Table tennis made its Olympic debut in South Korea in 1988 and has seen

:46:31. > :46:37.China dominate the competition. Players normally have smooth rubber

:46:38. > :46:41.on one side of their racket to provide the bin and a surface for

:46:42. > :46:45.speed on the other side. Players often like to spin the ball during a

:46:46. > :46:49.shot because it alters the trajectory. In singles, the serve

:46:50. > :46:55.only has the go from the service side of the court to the opponent's

:46:56. > :46:59.side. But in doubles, it must cross the court. During a rally, players

:47:00. > :47:06.must allow the ball to bounce once on the table before returning it.

:47:07. > :47:10.But this is a Fast and Furious sport requiring quick reactions. At the

:47:11. > :47:17.highest level, with a lightning reflexes, with the balls being

:47:18. > :47:24.struck around three times a second during the rally. A player must

:47:25. > :47:28.reach 11.2 win a singles match. -- 11 points to win. In the team

:47:29. > :47:33.events, singles and doubles matches are the best of five games. There

:47:34. > :47:37.are three players in each team. Two further singles matches can be

:47:38. > :47:41.played until one team has secured three wins. The format of the

:47:42. > :47:45.individual and team event is elimination. If a person or team

:47:46. > :47:49.loses a match, they will take no further part in the competition.

:47:50. > :47:57.That is all you need to know. Just telling about the British number

:47:58. > :48:05.one, Liam Pritchard has had a bye eh. Polge wrinkle is an action, --

:48:06. > :48:12.Paul. It is just about to start. Live table tennis coming to your way

:48:13. > :48:20.on four. A big moment here for Paul Drinkall. Five times the national

:48:21. > :48:28.champion. His second Olympics. A really consistent player. Ranked 58

:48:29. > :48:38.in the world, 26 years of age, up against this guy,, Aleksandar

:48:39. > :48:43.Karakasevic, a really good player. Ten years ago he was ranked there to

:48:44. > :48:47.do in the world. He is a little bit past his sell by date, but you try

:48:48. > :48:52.telling him that! He has got plenty of shots. He will be very, very good

:48:53. > :49:02.to watch. As far as Paul Drinkhall is concerned, hopefully not too

:49:03. > :49:08.good. But this Olympics for second. -- it is his fifth Olympics,

:49:09. > :49:17.Aleksandar Karakasevic. He is higher ranked, Paul Drinkhall, 58 in the

:49:18. > :49:23.world. Allen Clarke is his coach. -- Alan Cooke. He has a wealth of

:49:24. > :49:26.experience. Paul is 26 years old. He has an attacking game, it should be

:49:27. > :49:32.an interesting watch. Aleksandar Karakasevic is a man of power, the

:49:33. > :49:37.left-hander. -- a man of power on. He got to the third round in Athens,

:49:38. > :49:45.that is the best he has done in an Olympics, that was back in 2004.

:49:46. > :49:49.Second round in London 2012. A consistent performer at around that

:49:50. > :49:58.Lovell. Of course, the top-flight is more or less governed by the

:49:59. > :50:03.Chinese. They want all of -- they won the last 16 medals. Paul

:50:04. > :50:09.Drinkhall versus Aleksandar Karakasevic is about to begin. A

:50:10. > :50:19.pop-up received their that Drinkhall could get onto quickly.

:50:20. > :50:26.He has still got lightning reflexes, Aleksandar Karakasevic.

:50:27. > :50:34.A superbly talented player. But some wonder whether he has made the most

:50:35. > :50:40.of his talent, even though he has gone as high as 32 in the world. It

:50:41. > :50:46.is that's first match, it is a first round match. Aleksandar Karakasevic

:50:47. > :50:47.played in a preliminary match against an Australian player and won

:50:48. > :51:09.4-2. You can see both players desperate

:51:10. > :51:17.to get on the front foot and get a first strike in.

:51:18. > :51:30.It just won't happen for Karakasevic at the moment. A very solid start

:51:31. > :51:37.for Drinkhall. Yeah, wonderful short serve held up by the let. It is just

:51:38. > :51:41.what he wanted, the Serb loaded with spin, got the pop-up received and

:51:42. > :51:47.could get into ball three very quickly -- the serve loaded. Cobra

:51:48. > :52:08.like flick of the ball over the table.

:52:09. > :52:17.A feud gifts coming the way of Drinkhall. -- a few gifts. Baz

:52:18. > :52:28.hasn't found any kind of rhythm at the moment. -- Karakasevic. Changing

:52:29. > :52:35.the spins and the Serbs are very effectively, some short, some long

:52:36. > :52:38.for Paul Drinkhall. The service. The second ounce would have bounced on

:52:39. > :52:44.the baseline that. -- the second bounce.

:52:45. > :52:57.He has just not quite dialled in from the off here, the Serbian.

:52:58. > :53:09.Entitled the towel down every six points, these players.

:53:10. > :53:19.It is a big arena, a 10,000 seater. It is more like an aircraft hangar.

:53:20. > :53:28.Just about a mile away from the Olympic Park.

:53:29. > :53:36.That is more what he is capable of. Yeah, he has got a flashing blade on

:53:37. > :53:44.the backhand, deceptively tough for Paul to get a read on that one.

:53:45. > :53:50.It may be too late to rescue this opening game, but he is showing us

:53:51. > :53:53.now that he will be a threat in this opening match. He had a fate which

:53:54. > :54:05.ball, hence the finger aloft an apology. -- edged ball.

:54:06. > :54:12.Setting up the point beautifully with some bury a bold directional

:54:13. > :54:15.changes off the backhand. Five consecutive points -- variable

:54:16. > :54:28.directional changes. It is not too late to rescue this game.

:54:29. > :54:31.Desperate to keep the serve low and render it attack Kabul, this is what

:54:32. > :54:45.it is all about. -- on attack Kabul. Time-out being called. Early on,

:54:46. > :54:51.each player is allowed one per match. This is necessary after six

:54:52. > :55:04.successive points to pick up a bit here. It is a worrying patch, this.

:55:05. > :55:08.I think the coach is called that, Paul called time out there

:55:09. > :55:12.evidently. It gives him a bit of time, desperate to hold onto the

:55:13. > :55:14.momentum. He has got a second serving opportunity to do just that,

:55:15. > :55:31.and get the game ball, possibly. Alan Cooke will have logged which is

:55:32. > :55:34.his most effective service. Now is the time to employ just that against

:55:35. > :55:39.this power on the left-hander from Serbia. -- against this volunteered

:55:40. > :55:58.left-hander. -- talented. A rush of points now for the serve.

:55:59. > :56:24.It is the first to two ahead. At last, a spell is broken. Game

:56:25. > :56:27.point. Pitchford is at the top left of the picture. He is in action

:56:28. > :56:43.tomorrow. A wonderful drop shot from

:56:44. > :56:45.Karakasevic there to square writ of. It will be decided with two points

:56:46. > :57:03.clear here. -- square it off. Big opportunity there. It is game

:57:04. > :57:27.point. Karakasevic. Well, that is a formidable comeback.

:57:28. > :57:32.9-2 it was. Absolutely, what a comeback, seven in a row for Baz,

:57:33. > :57:34.remarkable turnaround. That, you would imagine, would make Paul

:57:35. > :57:42.Drinkhall a little tense -- for Karakasevic.

:57:43. > :57:49.How good will he feel going in the game to? It is a real bonus, a

:57:50. > :57:50.couple of timely returns. -- gain two. What a miraculous escape for

:57:51. > :58:02.the Serbian player. He will regain his confidence and

:58:03. > :58:05.his rhythm. It is quite a forgiving format, with the best-of-7 games,

:58:06. > :58:08.the race of all games five of these players. I am sure that Paul will

:58:09. > :58:18.not be hitting the panic button quite yet. Pretty well shared out,

:58:19. > :58:21.it was that close a game. But with violently fluctuating form. But it

:58:22. > :58:27.was mostly about Karakasevic. We will see if Drinkhall can change

:58:28. > :58:50.that in game number two. Well, he doesn't like yielding any

:58:51. > :58:54.table or any quarter position does Karakasevic the Drinkhall. He is

:58:55. > :59:00.trying to state tight to the table and Russian Drinkhall. That is

:59:01. > :59:04.clever. -- and Russian Drinkhall. What a shot! It was a fast body

:59:05. > :59:08.serve into the pocket of the left-hander. It exploded off the

:59:09. > :59:18.backhand side. It has been very solid off that wing.

:59:19. > :59:30.Paul Cleverley showing all of his smorgasbord of service variation.

:59:31. > :59:41.Having a little flick on the backhand.

:59:42. > :59:46.Well, it is having great effect of of his backhand serve, Karakasevic,

:59:47. > :00:06.really causing Paul problems. Good little Bourdy JAMA, just

:00:07. > :00:15.handcuffing Karakasevic. -- body jam.

:00:16. > :00:24.It is still really all about the service. Win or lose it. Paul

:00:25. > :00:36.drinkable is doing a good job again at the start of the second game. --

:00:37. > :00:45.Paul Drinkhall. A good run for the Brett. -- Britain. -- the British

:00:46. > :00:56.competitor. How good was that? That was

:00:57. > :01:04.masterful, the backhand. Solid, difficult to read. So stylish.

:01:05. > :01:12.Reminding him that he had a big lead in the first game and lost it. He

:01:13. > :01:15.seems to switch on for periods of absolute sublime Williams,

:01:16. > :01:31.Aleksandar Karakasevic, then suddenly goes a wall. Good attacking

:01:32. > :01:34.on the forehand. -- brilliance. Six game points now to level up at one

:01:35. > :01:53.apiece. He has still got some brilliance

:01:54. > :01:57.left in this game, seems to play at his best when his back is against

:01:58. > :02:08.the wall. Surely he cannot rescue this game?

:02:09. > :02:12.He is countering Paul's explosive power really well, he has lightning

:02:13. > :02:43.quick hands, the Serbian. Disturbingly for English fans, that

:02:44. > :02:47.is four consecutive points for Aleksandar Karakasevic who looks

:02:48. > :02:53.threatening when he is right up against it. It is quite astonishing.

:02:54. > :02:57.Four game points have come and gone, here is game point number five. He

:02:58. > :03:31.writes his own rules does this guy. Can he finished the job? If he

:03:32. > :03:42.trails 2-0 he will be a little bit hand-carved with this swing, you

:03:43. > :03:45.would imagine. -- handcuffed. From 10-4, six game points have come and

:03:46. > :03:57.gone and we are in the same position we were in the first game.

:03:58. > :04:06.Well played. It is a very aggressive forehand flick return there. Surely

:04:07. > :04:34.the seventh time. The fast longer serve got home. And

:04:35. > :04:41.that will be huge relief. So nearly. And you can see, he has got some

:04:42. > :04:47.character this guy. He has been like Houdini. He almost escaped there and

:04:48. > :04:55.Paul drink all was delighted to get that second game. -- Paul Drinkhall.

:04:56. > :05:10.These are heady times for table tennis in GB.

:05:11. > :05:20.Paul here with Liam Pitchford and Sam Walker, they will be fancied to

:05:21. > :05:27.do well in the team event. Again, a fair share out on points won on

:05:28. > :05:32.serve and lost on serve. It is a very difficult match. It is about

:05:33. > :05:37.the ebbs and flows of Aleksandar Karakasevic. He is so fast in his

:05:38. > :05:41.attack, he is countering the attacks from Paul very well and then

:05:42. > :05:49.suddenly turns defence into attack and a flash at side. Paul, it is a

:05:50. > :05:56.rhythm must match for him and he does not know what is coming next.

:05:57. > :05:58.He is normally more dominant off his own serve -- a match without rhythm

:05:59. > :06:31.for him. Aleksandar Karakasevic looked

:06:32. > :06:39.worryingly fed up missing out on a two game lead. He has got himself

:06:40. > :06:46.back into this. He is starting to show the full range of his

:06:47. > :06:48.repertoire which is formidable. He has got vicious racket head speed,

:06:49. > :06:51.irrespective of where he stood, that was deep chord position, but well

:06:52. > :07:06.played. -- court. When he is playing like this, there

:07:07. > :07:11.really is very little that Paul Drinkhall can do about it. Is it

:07:12. > :07:23.just a hot streak that will burn out?

:07:24. > :07:31.He has got quick eyes and hands and sees the game very early and

:07:32. > :07:41.understand when Paul is on the table and what is likely to come next.

:07:42. > :08:18.Got to take it to him when you can, it is easier said than done.

:08:19. > :08:25.Of course for Paul it is rather difficult because this is his first

:08:26. > :08:28.match out here in this arena in live match conditions and of course for

:08:29. > :08:32.Aleksandar Karakasevic, he has had a winner already as you alluded to, he

:08:33. > :08:41.will be far more settled in the arena. He honestly feels he should

:08:42. > :08:59.have made it. It was there for him. -- obviously.

:09:00. > :09:03.Great acceleration off the backhand side, he needed more time to set up

:09:04. > :09:22.and release the racket tip. A good spell here. A good spell from

:09:23. > :09:28.Paul Drinkhall. Aleksandar Karakasevic was coming at him. You

:09:29. > :09:32.can see where Paul is going, he feels if he can get into the body of

:09:33. > :09:33.Aleksandar Karakasevic, he will be rewarded but he is pretty quick and

:09:34. > :10:06.gets out of the way well. There from the serve. Pushing him

:10:07. > :10:19.away from the table. 7-3 becomes 7-7. A little lucky but he put it

:10:20. > :10:21.away well using every square inch of the table to good effect their,

:10:22. > :10:33.great accuracy from Paul Drinkhall. Things are going his way. You can

:10:34. > :10:40.see, Aleksandar Karakasevic is not enjoying it! Six consecutive points

:10:41. > :10:43.for Paul Drinkhall, he is so good at changing the direction off the

:10:44. > :10:55.backhand side, getting a little emotional.

:10:56. > :11:17.He knows this game is far from done and dusted, you just never know with

:11:18. > :11:22.the Serbian. He has that two points on his own serve now, Aleksandar

:11:23. > :11:28.Karakasevic and is very dangerous in that regard.

:11:29. > :11:46.Great return. And Paul Drinkhall moves ahead. Two Games to one and a

:11:47. > :11:51.much easier conversation now. It seems that Paul Drinkhall is being

:11:52. > :11:58.rewarded for being that the more vocal. The body language was good,

:11:59. > :12:05.more positive and Cook is delighted as you can see. Kind of getting in

:12:06. > :12:10.the face of Aleksandar Karakasevic. A man who was totally dedicated

:12:11. > :12:14.along with his family to the sport when he was just 11 years of age she

:12:15. > :12:19.went to China to see how it is really done, no better place.

:12:20. > :12:26.Retained a Chinese coach for around a decade before Alan Cooke. He has

:12:27. > :12:44.just got better and better. Still Aleksandar Karakasevic will be

:12:45. > :12:51.a little disappointed that he is not doing better on serve. The serve is

:12:52. > :13:04.normally a dominant factor in table tennis but not so in this game, they

:13:05. > :13:14.are returning very well, these two. Paul has to keep the variation in

:13:15. > :13:32.the attack line. He is 2-1 Games in France. -- Games in front. How many

:13:33. > :13:40.times is that happening to him? Away it goes. It is a game decided by

:13:41. > :13:49.millimetres, such fine margins in this vast sport. Well played, he is

:13:50. > :14:06.changing the point of attack. Fast though he is, Paul Drinkhall.

:14:07. > :14:09.Getting up act. Could not quite cope with the serve, Aleksandar

:14:10. > :14:14.Karakasevic, but well finished. He got his body out of the way, skipped

:14:15. > :14:26.to the side and hit the forehand beautifully, Paul Drinkhall.

:14:27. > :15:03.It rather popped up from him, a rare shot from Aleksandar Karakasevic.

:15:04. > :15:12.Good response from the Serbian. Well, he suddenly just goes on these

:15:13. > :15:25.runs of points, Karakasevic. Brilliant! Turning defensive to

:15:26. > :15:29.attack. One of his best point in the match, Paul Drinkhall, there. Looks

:15:30. > :15:48.out of it. Such a Aussie atmosphere in here,

:15:49. > :16:03.four tables. It is all kicking off -- such a buzz -- buzzy atmosphere

:16:04. > :16:09.in here. You can see he is changing the point of attack.

:16:10. > :16:13.It is a terrific serve, loaded with spin, really disguised forehand

:16:14. > :16:28.attack. A chance there. It goes begging, and

:16:29. > :16:31.they all level pegging in this fourth game. -- they are level

:16:32. > :16:55.pegging. A very good job of pushing Drinkhall

:16:56. > :16:59.back again. He has got an efficient game style, he doesn't move around

:17:00. > :17:03.as much as Drinkhall, but he doesn't need to, his hands skills of a

:17:04. > :17:13.nominal, and his directional control is exquisite. -- after nominal. And

:17:14. > :17:18.expensive shot to level up again. He senses this is a key game, if

:17:19. > :17:22.Drinkhall wins it. I don't think there is only coming back the

:17:23. > :17:25.Karakasevic. First of four, remember. -- any coming back. First

:17:26. > :17:39.of four games. Again, same problem, he looks

:17:40. > :18:09.dangerous behind the net. Dynamite! Again, the serve is

:18:10. > :18:15.impossible to read. Two points away from a 3-1 lead. Quick to pounce on

:18:16. > :18:23.to this, Paul popped up an explosive finish from Drinkhall.

:18:24. > :18:37.Now, a load of points being one on the serve. -- being won.

:18:38. > :18:48.This time, Karakasevic away from the table. What is he on about? Having

:18:49. > :18:52.given himself I think missing the opportunity, he or two game points.

:18:53. > :19:14.-- here are. Oh, so good, clinical finish.

:19:15. > :19:15.Drinkhall should be very happy at the way he has responded. Dropping

:19:16. > :19:28.that second game. Just going away from the table.

:19:29. > :19:34.Karakasevic probably needs to get his mind to hear. He probably will

:19:35. > :19:37.welcome the opportunity. This is a wonderful ball from Drinkhall,

:19:38. > :19:41.setting it up, pulling the trigger down the line on the forehand,

:19:42. > :19:46.wonderful spite to the short part of the court, the light etched over his

:19:47. > :19:52.face, as well it should be. Karakasevic is a tricky opponent.

:19:53. > :19:58.Paul is 3-1 to the good, that will delight the English fans.

:19:59. > :20:07.Looking relaxed. Which is not what you can say about Karakasevic. He

:20:08. > :20:15.hasn't exactly got a table then as player's build, has he? -- table

:20:16. > :20:22.tennis player. A little bit more dominant on serve from both players

:20:23. > :20:26.there. Karakasevic winning the majority of points on his serve, but

:20:27. > :20:34.not good enough in the end to take the game.

:20:35. > :20:39.He is getting distracted by something, I can't quite work out

:20:40. > :20:46.what it is. You can see he is trying to have a go. The umpires here,

:20:47. > :20:52.completely contrasting body language there, Drinkhall was animated and

:20:53. > :20:53.dynamic around the table. Karakasevic gesticulating in

:20:54. > :21:04.frustration. Well, he has got the ability to turn

:21:05. > :21:11.it around. Has he got the application here?

:21:12. > :21:36.The serve more and more is causing Karakasevic problems.

:21:37. > :21:44.That is a terrific shot receive from Paul Drinkhall, kept it tight to the

:21:45. > :21:50.net. -- shot receive. He kept it really shot as well. We have the

:21:51. > :21:57.time out here for the service. One time out to each team per match.

:21:58. > :22:03.Got a little unlucky there, the ball kissing the net and spilling wide.

:22:04. > :22:08.Drinkhall animated, this is good, getting in the face of the Serbian

:22:09. > :22:17.opponent. Drinkhall did when the test event here at the end of last

:22:18. > :22:21.years ago did win. In November. He was the only non-South American to

:22:22. > :22:28.play, he was the top seed. It must have been good experience. That

:22:29. > :22:33.said, a table is a table. But he has come here and got itchy and to the

:22:34. > :22:35.conditions. He seems to be doing well enough here. -- got tuned to

:22:36. > :23:08.the conditions. Well, he is turning this around

:23:09. > :23:14.nicely, the forehand down the line that he is biking is causing

:23:15. > :23:16.problems for Karakasevic. -- is biking. The third game is looking

:23:17. > :23:33.more and more important now. What has happened here as well that

:23:34. > :23:36.the Serbian can be less expensive, he is more inhibited because of the

:23:37. > :23:41.scoreboard pressure now. It is allowing Paul Drinkhall the

:23:42. > :23:43.opportunity to play with abandon and get on the front foot quicker in the

:23:44. > :24:09.rally. Yes, the serve again did the job,

:24:10. > :24:13.but he kept his thoughts on the accelerator, allowed Karakasevic

:24:14. > :24:22.nothing. -- he kept his foot on the accelerator.

:24:23. > :24:29.That is a good return. Well, he is getting a lot more joy, Paul

:24:30. > :24:32.Drinkhall, from serving to the Karakasevic forehand, going to the

:24:33. > :24:41.backhand. That is his favourite play.

:24:42. > :24:47.It is the noise may be from the adjoining table that is upsetting

:24:48. > :24:48.him, but he should be used a lot. That is what happens, and he knows

:24:49. > :25:01.it. -- used to that. It is a real hullabaloo from the

:25:02. > :25:04.adjacent table, absolutely. You can see he is distracted, he is looking

:25:05. > :25:09.over their, he needs to get his mind back on the job because Drinkhall is

:25:10. > :25:16.really getting get-together. He is becoming increasingly animated. --

:25:17. > :25:22.getting it together. The reason is, there is a Brazilian player who is

:25:23. > :25:30.obviously drawing most of the attention there.

:25:31. > :25:36.And although Paul Drinkhall is just three points away from the match,

:25:37. > :25:39.you still feel that there is an awful lot of table tennis left with

:25:40. > :25:48.this danger man here. Chickens are being counted.

:25:49. > :26:06.Oh, such a clever short shot there. No way to go for Karakasevic.

:26:07. > :26:19.Super. Again, pushing it back. And in terms of five match points.

:26:20. > :26:35.Clinical finish. A worrying start could easily have been two games

:26:36. > :26:39.down. But he turned it around, Karakasevic, but Drinkhall did what

:26:40. > :26:43.he had to do. Very much, you was a very awkward opponent, very

:26:44. > :26:50.talented. Alan Cook is delighted with Paul Drinkhall. He lives to see

:26:51. > :27:00.another day. Plenty of smiles now. Drinkhall will go off and play Gao

:27:01. > :27:03.Ning of Singapore in round two tomorrow afternoon. Karakasevic will

:27:04. > :27:08.need some consoling. I wouldn't want to be the guy to try and console

:27:09. > :27:11.him! Absolutely, he is a big unit of rather frustrated there. The right

:27:12. > :27:25.for the men in red, Drinkhall safely through. Through the second round.

:27:26. > :27:30.Let's look of a he salutes his fans. -- let's look at the match point. He

:27:31. > :27:34.salutes his fans. Karakasevic doing well to nick the second game. He

:27:35. > :27:38.looked as if he might take the third. From then on, when he lost

:27:39. > :27:44.that 12-10, Drinkhall seemed to have his number. Drink or was very

:27:45. > :27:50.effective, serving into the forehand of the Serb more often, the backhand

:27:51. > :27:55.was red-hot tonight. It is Paul Drinkhall who goes through in the

:27:56. > :28:03.end. Three successive games, 11-5 in the fifth, that was well played. He

:28:04. > :28:07.will play Gao Ning tomorrow. STUDIO: Successful Paul Drinkhall in

:28:08. > :28:11.the table tennis. He will play again tomorrow. The British number one,

:29:04. > :29:08.The aim of weightlifting is simple - to lift the greatest way possible.

:29:09. > :29:11.There are two types of lift, the snatch and the Queen jerk.

:29:12. > :29:15.Competitors have the complete both lifts, and the winner is the person

:29:16. > :29:20.whose combined weight total is the greatest. This match is a lift

:29:21. > :29:25.whether barbel is raised across the head in a continuous movement. The

:29:26. > :29:28.athlete starts in a squat position, and must flip the weight into a

:29:29. > :29:33.position above their head. When they are secure in this position, they

:29:34. > :29:38.rise and complete the movement. The jerk lift is performed in two

:29:39. > :29:43.stages, the barbel is gripped palms downward and pulled in a single

:29:44. > :29:47.movement, but the jerk is where the athlete bends and extends the legs

:29:48. > :29:54.and arms to bring the barbel to. Four. They must stand still -- the

:29:55. > :30:00.full stretch. Each weightlifter has three attempts in both the snatch

:30:01. > :30:04.and the jerk with the combined total of the highest two successful lists

:30:05. > :30:08.determining the overall result. If after three attempts they fail to

:30:09. > :30:12.register I directly they will be eliminated from the competition.

:30:13. > :30:17.Olympic weightlifting requires more than strength, Barnes, stability and

:30:18. > :30:17.speed. It is essential to a weightlifter's quest for glory --

:30:18. > :30:29.balance. It is time for some live

:30:30. > :30:35.weightlifting. It is the women's 48 category. The competitor from

:30:36. > :30:49.Thailand is leading. We will go back to the real centre. They are asking

:30:50. > :30:56.to stop the competition. Just as we see the replay. What to think? It is

:30:57. > :30:59.a difficult angle to see. The elbow closest to us, I am not sure at

:31:00. > :31:07.first it was shoulder movement, but there, I can get that. The jury have

:31:08. > :31:11.called the two side referees over and I think they are going to

:31:12. > :31:15.overturn this decision and give them a telling off at the same time.

:31:16. > :31:22.These are the scorecards that we can see. This is where the coaches

:31:23. > :31:26.nominate the weight, very tactical. Just waiting for a decision on that

:31:27. > :31:33.previous left. They have not done it yet.

:31:34. > :31:46.The American is getting ready to come out. No left, there is the

:31:47. > :31:49.announcement. Now a question, is it Morghan Whitney King who is coming

:31:50. > :31:54.out or do they take the bar back down to 99? She is currently on 100

:31:55. > :31:58.and surely Wei-Ling Chen has the right to know what has just

:31:59. > :32:09.happened? The bar has gone back down to 99. They will have to come back

:32:10. > :32:16.out. That was a really tough call. Morghan Whitney King is frustrated

:32:17. > :32:22.but she will go back end and Wei-Ling Chen will be back out. It

:32:23. > :32:25.is frustrating for Morghan Whitney King, she is ready and prepared,

:32:26. > :32:32.ready for that split second and now she has to hang on for a couple of

:32:33. > :32:36.minutes. Getting into that film is really difficult. And up and down

:32:37. > :32:45.offer motions all through the competition -- zone. She has gone

:32:46. > :32:57.up. Chen Wei-Ling has gone up. There is an interesting decision.

:32:58. > :33:09.Morghan Whitney King is back out. Her first attempt at 100 kilos. She

:33:10. > :33:17.does have on record, a record of 113. She has already been in good

:33:18. > :33:44.form, a personal best of around five kilos in the snatch earlier today.

:33:45. > :33:54.Four kilos up on her previous best on the international platform. I do

:33:55. > :34:00.believe, it was her fellow countrywoman who won the first gold

:34:01. > :34:06.medal at the first Olympic Games when women's weightlifting was

:34:07. > :34:09.included. That was the 48 kilo category in the Sydney Olympics.

:34:10. > :34:18.Great to see other letters coming through. Absolutely smashed it. Lost

:34:19. > :34:25.track of how much an improvement that is overall. 11 kilos in the

:34:26. > :34:28.total so far. Does not really move her feet very wide, leaves the hips

:34:29. > :34:40.behind but she is clearly strong enough. Chen Wei-Ling, 100 kilos on

:34:41. > :34:48.the bar. First left at 98. That is OK. That will be a success the

:34:49. > :35:00.left... No. Really? I am asking why. I want to see a replay. Goodness me,

:35:01. > :35:11.what does she have to do? She got one white line from the judge and

:35:12. > :35:15.two reds. Interesting replay. I am sorry, I cannot see any movement in

:35:16. > :35:17.the elbows, that is not the best angle, clearly the referee is in a

:35:18. > :35:25.better position, but that is really tough. I am strict in terms of

:35:26. > :35:35.refereeing and I would have passed that. Maybe we are a bit too far

:35:36. > :35:42.back to see. Roilya Ranaivosoa at 100 kilos. Her third and final

:35:43. > :35:53.attempt. She has been successful at 93. Missed at 98. Attempting 100.

:35:54. > :35:58.No. Well, she asked her coaches for a two kilo increase, she believed

:35:59. > :36:03.she could do it, she gave it a good go and waves to the crowd, that sigh

:36:04. > :36:08.of relief. She is left with 173, currently in third position but I

:36:09. > :36:17.think we will see her dropout of medal position, lots of letters left

:36:18. > :36:31.to come. -- lifters. Her Olympics is over this time around. Works hard,

:36:32. > :36:35.it uses up so much energy. Adjust the great, gets the oxygen then, big

:36:36. > :36:44.drive to arm's-length but cannot quite steady herself. Some

:36:45. > :36:52.perspective here, she has lifted 113 kilos in a jerk. So far, two failed.

:36:53. > :37:05.Chen Wei-Ling needs this to stay in the cup. -- in the competition. I do

:37:06. > :37:09.not know. She has still been failed. She is still throwing her arms

:37:10. > :37:17.around, she cannot believe it. The jury table has that nice and still.

:37:18. > :37:20.How frustrating. You can see the disappointment and frustration,

:37:21. > :37:26.wide? It looks as though that will be a successful left, no movement

:37:27. > :37:32.from the jury. I thought there oscillation but it paused before she

:37:33. > :37:35.went Fred. Good overhead. No movement. I would like to know what

:37:36. > :37:50.the referee saw there because I am struggling to see it herself.

:37:51. > :38:04.Zhanyl Okoeva with 100 kilos on the bar.

:38:05. > :38:19.That is good. Timing to perfection. Just does not have the legs to drive

:38:20. > :38:24.overhead. That often happens when you try and shelve the bar too early

:38:25. > :38:32.with the arms. All the effort should come from the legs, driving through

:38:33. > :38:38.your starting position. Finishes with 169 kilos. The bar was in

:38:39. > :38:44.contact with the legs all the way up, good extension with the hips,

:38:45. > :38:50.glancing off the guys, at the timing was really good. You can see from

:38:51. > :39:02.that angle how far the hips were hind the bar.

:39:03. > :39:14.Beatriz Elizabeth Piron Candelarion, first attempt. Big adjustment in the

:39:15. > :39:18.hands. Nicely to arm's-length, no movement in the elbows. The reason

:39:19. > :39:23.she adjusted the hands wide, it was less distance for the bar to travel

:39:24. > :39:29.will stop it is OK if you have the flexibility to do that, I never

:39:30. > :39:34.could. I am not jealous! She has a total of 187. Still a number of

:39:35. > :39:46.lifters still to come. Drops the chest a little there, good

:39:47. > :40:00.adjustment. Very efficient in the overhead division. No problem. This

:40:01. > :40:09.is her first attempt in the clean and jerk. It is Margarita

:40:10. > :40:27.Yelisseyeva. Knees actually touched. Really good

:40:28. > :40:33.overhead. Clearly the clean is the week as part of the left. You do not

:40:34. > :40:39.see that very often, it is the sign of weak glutes but I do not think I

:40:40. > :40:50.can use the word weak for these girls, they are so strong. 183. What

:40:51. > :40:57.this, knees touch on the way up. They touch as she stands as well.

:40:58. > :41:07.Incredible positioning. Still got her grip on the bar. Let it go now.

:41:08. > :41:12.They do not see that very often. She has just snuck into first position

:41:13. > :41:26.in the moment. She is slightly lighter than the American, Morghan

:41:27. > :41:40.Whitney King who is out now to make an attempt at 103 kilos.

:41:41. > :41:53.No legs left. At the moment she sits in second position. If we get a

:41:54. > :41:58.replay of the clean it you will see there are a couple of bounces before

:41:59. > :42:06.she manages to stand. She does well to keep the bar moving. Want to try

:42:07. > :42:12.that Akpom, do some squats, pause at the bottom and try and stand. The

:42:13. > :42:21.bounces keep it moving. Just runs out of leg drive. She will have to

:42:22. > :42:33.follow herself at the moment. She has all ready lifted a PB. She knows

:42:34. > :42:34.she is not going to win a medal, she would be crazy to increase it any

:42:35. > :43:02.further. Still sitting at 103 that would take

:43:03. > :43:05.2186 and in second spot. It is the quickest two minutes of your life

:43:06. > :43:10.when you are following yourself. Particularly if you have missed. No

:43:11. > :43:15.time to breathe or let your legs recover. She will still be breathing

:43:16. > :43:23.very heavily as she comes onto the platform for this final attempt. 30

:43:24. > :43:29.years of age, only been lifting competitively since 2012, she was a

:43:30. > :43:36.foot taller before. She took up weightlifting in 2012. --

:43:37. > :43:40.footballer. Here she is, trying to get herself into the second position

:43:41. > :43:44.in terms of total, a number of lifters still to come, but well and

:43:45. > :44:05.truly PB already. It is their! Can she stick it? So

:44:06. > :44:12.close. It does not get much closer. It is 11 kilo BB. A brilliant

:44:13. > :44:16.performance, she will look back on this and reflect and she will not be

:44:17. > :44:20.too disappointed. In the moment right now, yes disappointment, but

:44:21. > :44:28.it was never going to be a medal. Brilliant effort, though.

:44:29. > :44:38.Just watch and see how close this lift really was. Arm's-length,

:44:39. > :44:42.running out of space on the platform. Maybe if she had another

:44:43. > :44:57.five metres, she would have chased it down. This is the Indian

:44:58. > :45:02.competitor Chanu Saikhom Mirabai, her first attempt at 104. That would

:45:03. > :45:13.put in second position at the moment.

:45:14. > :45:32.No, well it was at arms length, and then it wasn't. There really is no

:45:33. > :45:36.messing around, it is either in the right place or it is not, they are

:45:37. > :45:40.not pushing the bar with the arms, they are driving with the legs,

:45:41. > :45:43.simply catching the get samples like length. The body is not the best

:45:44. > :45:48.position underneath the bar, you are going to struggle. I think we kind

:45:49. > :45:53.of missed the double body weight mark, that was ages ago, we are well

:45:54. > :46:00.in excess now of double body weight, six kilos over.

:46:01. > :46:09.She is going to have to follow herself. Sit down, collect her

:46:10. > :46:16.thoughts. Well she has gone up. She has to try and buy herself sometime.

:46:17. > :46:20.We said just the second ago about two minutes is not very long to

:46:21. > :46:29.recover, by increasing it just a kilo it forces out me a few of Japan

:46:30. > :46:33.for her first attempt. She really struggled in the first attempt,

:46:34. > :46:38.finally got herself a successful lift, but it was a big, big effort

:46:39. > :46:44.to get there. This is the first two. She is bringing 81 kilos into this,

:46:45. > :46:45.she is on 105 now, this would put her in second position at the

:46:46. > :46:58.moment. Oh, bounces out, that was tough. Oh,

:46:59. > :47:04.you can see the body shaking. So strong overhead. Oh, she has done.

:47:05. > :47:09.Mike that is a gutsy, gutsy effort. There was nothing easy about that.

:47:10. > :47:16.She has had a rough run so for the competition. She had to fight all

:47:17. > :47:28.the way the end. That gives her a total of 186. Now she can ask the

:47:29. > :47:43.questions, what do I need? Here -- here on is on 187 -- Piron. Miyake

:47:44. > :47:49.has catapulted herself, but we still have six lifters left in the

:47:50. > :47:57.competition. She needs something big to stay in the competition. Piron,

:47:58. > :48:01.Dominican Republic. Currently the leader, trying to extend it. Five

:48:02. > :48:24.other lifters to come. She spent a long time with the bar

:48:25. > :48:31.across her shoulders. At what stage is it too long to have it sitting

:48:32. > :48:36.there? I think the question comes... It is not so much about how long it

:48:37. > :48:40.is there, you want to get it off as quick as possible obviously. It is

:48:41. > :48:46.how much energy she has wasted on the first part of the lift. Watch

:48:47. > :48:50.her, she doesn't stand straight up, bounces, bounces, bounces. The bar

:48:51. > :48:52.is on her windpipe, she is not breathing. Only now can she

:48:53. > :48:59.breathed, and that is what is causing the problems. It took too

:49:00. > :49:03.much out of her, that first phase of the lift, that is why she struggled.

:49:04. > :49:13.She gave it a good effort, though. Challenging length. Now, a bit of

:49:14. > :49:19.gamesmanship is coming on here. Piron will have to come back out.

:49:20. > :49:23.Oh, no. OK, so we were chatting about this rule early. Let me try

:49:24. > :49:28.and explain. They have changed the rules. Piron is following herself.

:49:29. > :49:33.She has just lifted, she has the come back out. She only gets one

:49:34. > :49:37.minute because another lift was caught in between. Let's see if she

:49:38. > :49:41.can stand this time with no recovery. It is absolute

:49:42. > :49:55.gamesmanship to make her go back out there. 105 kilos.

:49:56. > :50:13.Oh, shame again. Well, as lifters retrain as if we are following our

:50:14. > :50:18.souls, we train to be fit for that. Very, very rarely will these lifters

:50:19. > :50:23.do maximum lift in the gym and have less than a minute recovery. That

:50:24. > :50:29.was tough, that was a huge ask. She was so close. Left at 102. Still in

:50:30. > :50:38.first position for the moment, though. But still a number of

:50:39. > :50:41.lifters to come. Her total is up with 187. I'm not sure if it is

:50:42. > :50:46.going to be enough to stay in the medals. But she is there, anything

:50:47. > :50:50.is possible. Five lifters to come, though. She has to go back to the

:50:51. > :50:57.warm up room, sit and watch, nothing else you can do. Who is our leader

:50:58. > :50:59.after the snatch? She is out reasonably early, you think. This

:51:00. > :51:24.attempt at 106. Sopita Tanasan of Thailand. That was

:51:25. > :51:30.comfortable. I am questioning why she has got her starting rate down.

:51:31. > :51:36.OK, she has a lead after the snatch of seven kilos, but that was

:51:37. > :51:41.comfortable. But she is now in Gold medal position for the moment. 198,

:51:42. > :51:49.that is the target. Really quick under the bar, standing

:51:50. > :51:53.straightaway. Maximum efficiency, drive to arms's length, big lift to

:51:54. > :52:02.the elbows, happy days, first attempt on the board and in the lead

:52:03. > :52:11.by a considerable way. 106 on the bar. This would only take her to 186

:52:12. > :52:17.in the lead of 198. Yelisseyeva of Kazakhstan.

:52:18. > :52:27.Oh, there go the needs. -- the knees. Oscillation on the bar, comes

:52:28. > :52:32.to a rest. Oh, no, failed left. You only get one attempt at the joke,

:52:33. > :52:44.she dipped, mistimed it. The referee said, no thank you. -- the jerk. She

:52:45. > :52:48.has one more attempt up her sleeve. This is where the cat and mouse game

:52:49. > :52:57.begins. Could she consider going straight back out there? I don't

:52:58. > :53:01.think so. For the simple reason that Mirabai has already failed her first

:53:02. > :53:04.attempt at 104, she gambled up to 106. You won't see her coming out

:53:05. > :53:24.now. Completely mistimed that. So Mirabai, she needs this left, she

:53:25. > :53:26.failed at 104, she is won up to 106. 82 in the snatch, but doesn't have a

:53:27. > :53:41.clean total yet. Oh, it is a big effort to stand. She

:53:42. > :53:45.needs to execute this attempt. Oh, she is under pressure. Two failures.

:53:46. > :53:49.It would have put her in the silver medal position at the moment. It

:53:50. > :53:55.would have done, this is where you can play really high stakes poker,

:53:56. > :53:57.I'm not sure this is going to payoff for her. One attempt to stay in the

:53:58. > :54:11.competition. Third attempt for Yelisseyeva. Also

:54:12. > :54:17.at 106. This will only put her into third place, if my correlations are

:54:18. > :54:23.correct. Yes, she had eating in the snatch. -- my calculations. Mirabai

:54:24. > :54:28.had 84. We haven't seen Christiana of Indonesia yet. She is still due

:54:29. > :54:36.to come out at 110. An attempt to close the gap on Tanasan, after

:54:37. > :54:42.being back 70 lows after the snatch. This for a total of 186, for the

:54:43. > :54:47.moment we are in the bronze battle positions or seven kilos.

:54:48. > :55:06.It's there! And her coaches are going crazy, shouting words of

:55:07. > :55:11.encouragement. About is her third and final lift. The moment, she has

:55:12. > :55:15.a couple of fingers on a bronze medal, but will it stand up? Only

:55:16. > :55:30.time will tell. You would think probably not. But a total of 186.

:55:31. > :55:37.She works hard to stand. It is just her way of lifting, I guess. It

:55:38. > :55:42.works for her. She drops the hips behind the bar as she dips, not the

:55:43. > :55:46.best technically. But she's budded overhead, that is all that matters.

:55:47. > :55:51.I think it was disappointing there. -- she stopped the bar overhead.

:55:52. > :55:59.Mirabai needs this to go into second place. That would push Yelisseyeva

:56:00. > :56:05.out of medal contention. More importantly, she needs this to make

:56:06. > :56:14.a total. She needs this to get a total at all, this is her last lift.

:56:15. > :56:26.106 on the bar. Can she get a total here in Rio?

:56:27. > :56:29.No, Mirabai is out of the competition. Yelisseyeva breathes a

:56:30. > :56:40.sigh of relief. Ever so slight grip on a bronze

:56:41. > :56:46.medal, but we still have a view to come. How does appointing. Two

:56:47. > :56:50.lifters we have seen have failed to make a total. -- how disappointing.

:56:51. > :56:55.When you train for so many years, so many hours spent in the gym working

:56:56. > :56:57.for this one moment, this magical moment and when it doesn't come off.

:56:58. > :57:14.You have to feel their pain. Augustyn Anna, the first time we

:57:15. > :57:21.have seen her. 85 kilos in the snatch. This at 100 and. --

:57:22. > :57:33.Agustiani. This is full silver position. -- for silver position.

:57:34. > :57:45.This for a total of 192. Has she got it? Yes, she has. Well, shake of the

:57:46. > :57:50.head as if to say, I'm made that harder than I needed to. But she is

:57:51. > :57:58.there now, she has put herself right back in contention. Yelisseyeva says

:57:59. > :57:59.-- sees her potential bronze medal slipped to fourth, out of medal

:58:00. > :58:25.contention now. OK, Miyake has 100 and on the bar.

:58:26. > :58:33.81 kilos for the snatch. -- 107% the bar. Oh, really buries her. Just

:58:34. > :58:39.find the legs to stand. Oh, they have failed her.

:58:40. > :58:44.OK, a couple of things that could have happened there. One is her

:58:45. > :58:48.bottom may have touched the platform. But I don't think so, but

:58:49. > :58:53.I am not in the best position to see, we are too high to be able to

:58:54. > :58:57.see that. Secondly, there may have been an adjustment, which means the

:58:58. > :59:01.bar caught low and moved up on her shoulders, I didn't see that. There

:59:02. > :59:06.may have been all boat at. We need a replay. What matters though is that

:59:07. > :59:16.she is now in fifth position -- there may have been an elbow touch.

:59:17. > :59:31.This is tough, this is really tough. We have just had the same happen

:59:32. > :59:35.again now. Miyake came off after 100s, worked very hard and used so

:59:36. > :59:40.much energy. Another lift has been called. They have gone up, and

:59:41. > :59:45.straight back to Miyake. What is ticking, 45 seconds. Look how much

:59:46. > :59:49.energy she wasted. Can we see an infringement here? It is on top of

:59:50. > :59:55.the shoulders. That is fine. Why have they failed that others might

:59:56. > :00:04.oh, come on. -- why have they failed that? But this is a bronze medal

:00:05. > :00:11.left. This is huge. -- bronze medal lift. She is under enormous

:00:12. > :00:21.pressure. And now to put herself in a bronze medal position -- 107th.

:00:22. > :00:30.That is absolutely fine, nothing wrong with the clean. She has got

:00:31. > :00:37.it! What a fighter! Absolutely incredible. Congratulations, Hiromi

:00:38. > :00:44.Miyake of Japan, you have just put yourself into the medals. A silver

:00:45. > :00:49.medal in London and she is now sitting in third position, here in

:00:50. > :01:07.Rio. Only two lifters to come. She will take home a bronze medal.

:01:08. > :01:23.So with only two lifters to come, and they were both already in front

:01:24. > :01:27.of her... What a great effort. Well, and extremely sensible competition

:01:28. > :01:34.being played by Sopita Tanasan now, only increasing by two kilos, just

:01:35. > :01:41.to keep her lead enough that hopefully Sri Wahyuni Agustiani is

:01:42. > :01:51.unable to catch up. Very sensible. Exit attempt at 108 kilos. This

:01:52. > :01:59.would take to 200 in total. It is there and it is comfortable, really

:02:00. > :02:05.good lifting. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE 15, we are going to see 115, I

:02:06. > :02:10.reckon, 115, I think is the weight that Agustiani needs to give herself

:02:11. > :02:17.a chance of the gold overall. She has already got the silver. She's

:02:18. > :02:23.got nothing to lose. Yes, the bronze is Hiromi Miyake's and at the

:02:24. > :02:27.moment, Tanasan, on screen right now, has her hands on the gold

:02:28. > :02:35.medal. Agustiani has to do something quite extraordinary. Welcome is she

:02:36. > :02:39.going to have a go? I think if I'm honest, we are going to see Tanasan

:02:40. > :02:47.come out for a final attempt before we see Agustiani going for it. Yes,

:02:48. > :02:58.in the picture now, Agustiani taking some water on board. Tanasan coming

:02:59. > :03:03.back out at 109. She has managed 115. Why wouldn't you want this on

:03:04. > :03:07.your own terms? She doesn't need it, she's only going to take a couple

:03:08. > :03:12.more kilos, 110 is being loaded now and she's only doing this to force

:03:13. > :03:21.Agustiani to await she has never done before. She has only done 113,

:03:22. > :03:27.she still needs 115. If Tanasan successful, 117. I know it is a

:03:28. > :03:32.weight she has never done before but the last lift will be in Agustiani's

:03:33. > :03:43.hands. It is all very tense, either way. It is.

:03:44. > :03:49.Tanasan at 110 kilos, at the moment, looking all over a gold medal but

:03:50. > :03:50.there will still be one lifter to come, having to lift an

:03:51. > :04:12.extraordinary weight. I don't think she needs this. But it

:04:13. > :04:15.would be very handy. Tanasan, her third attempt, 110 kilos. Maybe this

:04:16. > :04:25.is why she is only done a couple, this will stop. -- this was tough.

:04:26. > :04:30.She was pushed to her limits today. At least we know that much the

:04:31. > :04:37.shore. Will that be good enough? Will the current total be good

:04:38. > :04:50.enough? 115 is being loaded. To put it into perspective, the Olympic

:04:51. > :04:55.record is 117. Setback in Beijing. I thought we may get close but I did

:04:56. > :05:01.not think we would expect to see this lifter coming onto the stage,

:05:02. > :05:04.Agustiani. This is a huge weight for her. Not only is it a personal best

:05:05. > :05:11.by two kilos, this is it, a gold-medal lift. Is she nails this,

:05:12. > :05:21.she takes the gold medal. If it is too much, then she will need to be

:05:22. > :05:26.content with silver. The veteran, Hiromi Miyake, has taken the bronze

:05:27. > :05:32.already, and two 21-year-old is fighting out gold and silver.

:05:33. > :05:41.Tanasan can do no more. Agustiani of Indonesia, four foot ten, a pocket

:05:42. > :05:49.dynamo. 115 kilos on the bar. A massive personal best will stop will

:05:50. > :05:54.it be a gold-medal lift? -- best. Oh, no, it will not be. She was

:05:55. > :05:59.going for it though, she just mistimed it. She's going to have

:06:00. > :06:05.another attempt. She's got one more to go. Look at Tanasan, hanging on,

:06:06. > :06:10.what a horrible position to be in, well, a great position, sat in the

:06:11. > :06:16.gold medal position but it is out of our hands. Dear me, I've got goose

:06:17. > :06:19.bumps watching it. It is a bit like a golfer safely in the clubhouse

:06:20. > :06:26.waiting for someone to hole the final putt from a long way. I kind

:06:27. > :06:32.of hope you have a camera on the warm up room at the same time, as we

:06:33. > :06:38.watch Agustiani's third attempt. Does she have the legs? One more to

:06:39. > :06:55.go. Will it be gold? Will it be silver?

:06:56. > :07:04.Look at the tension on these two, as we said, Tanasan can do no more.

:07:05. > :07:08.Holding on and hoping. She only did 106, Agustiani, back in the Asian

:07:09. > :07:14.championships a couple of months ago. This is huge. Yes, this is nine

:07:15. > :07:22.kilos more, that is a massive amount of weight. But they don't hand out

:07:23. > :07:32.gold medals to athletes who don't have a crack. She is certainly

:07:33. > :07:35.having a massive dig, here. Agustiani, two 21-year-olds fighting

:07:36. > :07:45.it out for gold. This is the final list of the competition. -- lift.

:07:46. > :07:49.Come on, now, come on. Can't do it. Wow, what an effort. You have to

:07:50. > :07:55.give her credit. She gave it everything. There is our gold

:07:56. > :08:02.medallist. 21 years old, Tanasan, wow. Gold and silver going to

:08:03. > :08:05.21-year-olds. It is a terrific performance, a real changing of the

:08:06. > :08:11.guard, the 30-year-old takes bronze, who was a silver medallist in

:08:12. > :08:20.London. That is Hiromi Miyake. Wonderful competition. And she knew.

:08:21. > :08:26.But you've got to have a go, haven't you? So close to standing, as well.

:08:27. > :08:30.What a competition. Great to see that it was a fight right to the

:08:31. > :08:40.end. I was worried Tanasan was going to run away with it. Brilliant. When

:08:41. > :08:45.she came out for that 106, you thought... What is she doing? We

:08:46. > :08:51.thought she had more but it turns out she didn't. And you can see how

:08:52. > :08:55.much it means to have. And you open your career as a 21-year-old with a

:08:56. > :09:02.gold at the Olympic Games. Who knows where it will finish? Oh, yeah, no

:09:03. > :09:07.words. This is the first time she has been down to 48. Identity and we

:09:08. > :09:11.will see her at 48 too often. She will probably do the majority of

:09:12. > :09:15.competition that 53 and if this is where she excels, then we may see

:09:16. > :09:19.her drop down for the next Games but she does not need to prove herself

:09:20. > :09:24.every year at this body weight. Brilliant lifting. Although to

:09:25. > :09:28.maintain that kind of body weight that is natural to you is an

:09:29. > :09:32.enormous effort, as you say, doing it every couple of years, if you can

:09:33. > :09:36.maintain 53, it is a little easier, I suppose, but still, a massive

:09:37. > :09:47.effort to get to hear. Isn't that terrific? A prayer.

:09:48. > :09:54.And there's the bronze medallist. One happy team and you know what?

:09:55. > :09:58.I'm not sure how she managed to pull it out of the bag. When you think

:09:59. > :10:03.about the struggle she had in the snatch as well. Missed the first do

:10:04. > :10:09.and how she held a third, no idea. Looked like she would be out of the

:10:10. > :10:14.competition. A true fighter. An impressive performance from

:10:15. > :10:17.Tanasan Thailand, leading after the snatch and winning the gold medal in

:10:18. > :10:21.the women's 48 kilograms category weightlifting. That is the first

:10:22. > :10:25.show of weightlifting on BBC Four but plenty more to come if you are a

:10:26. > :10:29.big weightlifting fan. It has been a bit of a brutal day today, a few

:10:30. > :10:33.broken bones. You might have seen earlier, a French gymnast breaking

:10:34. > :10:37.his leg in the vault which was pretty gruesome, so much so that we

:10:38. > :10:39.can't show it to you again, a broken collarbone in the road race, Geraint

:10:40. > :10:45.Thomas as well, who had a chance of a medal, crashing on the final

:10:46. > :10:49.descent, no broken bones, got back on the bike but a big crash for Team

:10:50. > :10:52.GB, who did not win any of the medals in the road race, despite big

:10:53. > :10:57.hopes for not only Thomas but also Chris Froome, who will go again in

:10:58. > :11:02.four days in the time trial. But aside from all of that, these are

:11:03. > :11:10.some of the headlines on day one of the XXXI Olympic Games. Good news

:11:11. > :11:13.for Team GB in the pool, Adam Peaty broke his own world record and is

:11:14. > :11:22.into the semifinal of the men's 100 metres breaststroke. That is an act

:11:23. > :11:25.38 -- at 3am on BBC One. Joe Cordina start his first Olympics with a win

:11:26. > :11:34.in the lightweight boxing and is into the second round. And in the

:11:35. > :11:37.heavyweights, also good for Team GB, Lawrence Okolie, who really

:11:38. > :11:43.impressed as he also made it through into the second round. We told you

:11:44. > :11:47.about the Team GB disappointment in the men's road race, but Greg van

:11:48. > :11:53.Avermaet Belgium was the man who came away with the gold and was

:11:54. > :11:57.delighted with it, understandably. But the first gold medal of the day

:11:58. > :12:01.actually went to a 19-year-old American, brilliant name as well,

:12:02. > :12:08.Ginny Thrasher, in the ten metres air rifle. Let's show you exactly

:12:09. > :12:15.what is happening around Rio at the moment. Plenty of live sport still

:12:16. > :12:19.taking place. Over on BBC One at the moment, well, BBC One is showing the

:12:20. > :12:23.hockey but on the Red Button, you can see some handball. I watched

:12:24. > :12:27.Brazil take on Norway earlier. It is fascinating. If you fancy a frenetic

:12:28. > :12:31.sport that takes you right to the edge of your seat, I can highly

:12:32. > :12:36.recommend it. And if you want to get involved in a bit of handball, get

:12:37. > :12:39.involved on the website and find the nearest club to you. Venus Williams

:12:40. > :12:43.is on Centre Court in the tennis, also available on the Red Button. We

:12:44. > :12:47.saw Heather Watson making it to the second round earlier. She took three

:12:48. > :12:52.sets to do it and we had some table tennis earlier on BBC Four, Paul

:12:53. > :13:00.Drinkhall making the second round and the table tennis continues at

:13:01. > :13:03.the Riocentro pavilion three. Thank you for all of the texts and tweets

:13:04. > :13:07.you have been sending through this evening. Apparently there's a lot of

:13:08. > :13:12.love for our fishermen, Francisco, and the ten fish he found early on

:13:13. > :13:15.the beach. Sadly, he's gone home now but there is still a little bit of

:13:16. > :13:18.activity on Copacabana. One of the other things we will try to do in

:13:19. > :13:21.the course of the next few weeks is we want you to send through your

:13:22. > :13:24.candidates for those stories we might have missed out, those global

:13:25. > :13:28.stories that really embody what the Olympics is all about. We're going

:13:29. > :13:31.to put them in bronze, silver and gold medal position at about this

:13:32. > :13:40.time every evening and we are calling it our #RioTrio. Here is

:13:41. > :13:47.today's offering, starting with the soggy Serbians in bronze, the men's

:13:48. > :13:50.pair overturned on the lake as the waves swelled in rather brutal

:13:51. > :14:19.winds, and they said afterwards it was more like surfing.

:14:20. > :14:33.Refugee swimmer, Mardini fled last summer and today she won the 100

:14:34. > :14:36.metres butterfly heat. Do you know what we're going to do, that didn't

:14:37. > :14:41.work because there was a technical issue so we're going to rerun the

:14:42. > :14:43.#RioTrio. I can't see the pictures and hopefully you can see them at

:14:44. > :14:47.home but here we go, once again, send in your suggestions in the

:14:48. > :14:48.cause of the next few weeks and pretend the last 90 seconds never

:14:49. > :14:59.happened. This is the #RioTrio! We will start with the soggy

:15:00. > :15:04.Serbians, the men's pair overturned on the lake as the waves swelled in

:15:05. > :15:11.brutal winds and they said afterwards it was more like surfing.

:15:12. > :15:18.There was joy for Vietnam as they took their first-ever goal at the

:15:19. > :15:26.Games with the final shot of the men's ten metres air pistol. They

:15:27. > :15:30.had previously won two medals, both silver, in the Olympics. You heard

:15:31. > :15:36.part of this because without doubt the most uplifting story of the day

:15:37. > :15:40.so far, refugee swimmer, Yusra Mardini fled her home in Syria last

:15:41. > :15:43.and today won the 100 metres butterfly heat, her time was only

:15:44. > :15:47.good for 41st overall so she did not progress to the semifinals but she

:15:48. > :15:53.still takes gold in today's #RioTrio.

:15:54. > :16:00.So good, we showed it to you twice. Now, a number of people have been

:16:01. > :16:06.saying, when are you going to show us some beach volleyball? It is on

:16:07. > :16:10.the way, fear not. But before that, the beach volleyball is a 20 minute

:16:11. > :16:20.walk down there. Here is the BBC guide to beach volleyball.

:16:21. > :16:27.Beach volleyball made its Olympic debut in Atlanta in 1996, and in the

:16:28. > :16:30.20 years since, the United States of Brazil have dominated the sport.

:16:31. > :16:35.Matches take place outdoors on a sand caught 16 metres long and eight

:16:36. > :16:38.metres wide. There are only two members of the beach volleyball team

:16:39. > :16:43.and substitutions are not allowed. The object of the game is to hit the

:16:44. > :16:44.ball over the net, trying to land it in the opponent's side of the court.

:16:45. > :17:03.To keep the ball in play, a tin can hit it up to three times on their

:17:04. > :17:05.side of the court before it must be returned. Every point lead in beach

:17:06. > :17:08.volleyball scores one point, and matches are the best of 3 cents. The

:17:09. > :17:11.first two sets are played to 21 points, but if a third is required,

:17:12. > :17:14.the winner of this set is the first team to reach 15. However, a team

:17:15. > :17:16.must always win a set by at least two points. There are many different

:17:17. > :17:19.shots in beach volleyball. Different pass is a shot using the forearms

:17:20. > :17:22.with hands together to direct the ball. It is used to set the ball for

:17:23. > :17:25.another player to play an attacking shot. They did is when the ball is

:17:26. > :17:28.saved with any part of the body, but normally using the arms and hands. A

:17:29. > :17:34.spike is where a player jumps and strikes the ball with one hand as an

:17:35. > :17:38.attacking hit. A dink is played just over the net or block a's hand

:17:39. > :17:40.instead of spiking. It is legal as long as the player does it with

:17:41. > :17:43.closed fingers. The preliminary phase sees teams compete in pools,

:17:44. > :17:48.with the top teams from each pool advancing to the knockout phases in

:17:49. > :17:55.their quest for Olympic medals. So now you know exactly how it

:17:56. > :17:59.works. Four years ago in London 2012, the beach volleyball was at

:18:00. > :18:03.Horse Guards Parade. Now it is that Copacabana beach and Mark is one of

:18:04. > :18:08.those who has got in contact on Twitter using the hashtag

:18:09. > :18:12.#bbcrio2016. He said, when on earth, Walker, are you going to show some

:18:13. > :18:15.beach volleyball? I have been staying awake specifically for it.

:18:16. > :18:20.We promised we would show you some. I am not sure this is what you had

:18:21. > :18:28.in mind. This is the German men against the Polish men. The Poles

:18:29. > :18:32.managed to win the first set. There is a beautiful shot of the Beach

:18:33. > :18:41.Volleyball Arena. And we join the second set live. Our commentator and

:18:42. > :18:42.that arena, prepare yourself for whooping and wailing, here is

:18:43. > :18:55.Clayton Lucas. COMMENTATOR: Said Germany will be

:18:56. > :19:04.looking at this as just a blip. And they will be looking to come back

:19:05. > :19:10.in. He looked like he was going to go to the crosscourt. Casually

:19:11. > :19:40.rolled it to the line. The first lead for Germany.

:19:41. > :19:47.Every opportunity they get, they like to go quick, Poland. Just

:19:48. > :20:40.piling on the pressure to Germany. Poland find a solution, and they

:20:41. > :20:50.have the lead at the first end change. Great view of the Centre

:20:51. > :20:55.Court as we panel in. It is a fascinating encounter. Although

:20:56. > :20:58.Poland are bossing it, Germany still have the ability to get back into

:20:59. > :21:03.this one. They just have to believe they can do it. They are certainly

:21:04. > :21:07.making a better fist of it in this second set, match in Poland point

:21:08. > :21:10.for point. Poland are helping them to a certain degree. A couple of

:21:11. > :21:15.missed serves from them already. This game really is a battle of the

:21:16. > :21:20.mind. Physically, these two teams are an ideal match. Very little

:21:21. > :21:43.between them. But mentally right now, Poland have the edge.

:21:44. > :21:52.That is a very nice play from Bockermann. Just cutting that ball

:21:53. > :21:58.towards the sideline. Really good pick-up by Fluggen as well, to not

:21:59. > :22:06.only get it in the air, but stay out of the net. Something for Germany to

:22:07. > :22:09.build on now they have levelled the scores up. A little bit of belief

:22:10. > :23:04.creeping into their game, perhaps. Fluggen Kodaline, and unfortunately

:23:05. > :23:11.Bockermann did not heed the advice. He is denied by combination of the

:23:12. > :23:13.net -- Fluggen called the line. As Poland get themselves a 3-point

:23:14. > :24:23.lead, Germany have called time-out. Germany are less than 50% efficient

:24:24. > :24:26.with their attacking at the moment. They are showing moments of

:24:27. > :24:31.brilliance, and they are showing us exactly why they are here at this

:24:32. > :24:37.Olympic Games. All the hard work they have put in over the last year

:24:38. > :24:44.and a half in qualifying. But it's funny how situations can affect you.

:24:45. > :24:48.And right now, the situation here has got to Germany. When they

:24:49. > :24:51.started to lose points, they have struggled to get them back. They

:24:52. > :24:56.have got back into this one, and they are coming back again. They

:24:57. > :25:04.just have to keep that consistency and momentum and put some pressure

:25:05. > :25:10.back on to Poland. Nice pick-up by Fluggen. So important on the beach

:25:11. > :25:13.that you get a full arm swing up and into the air and extend it high up

:25:14. > :25:35.into the air like Fluggen has done. Bockermann got the height of the net

:25:36. > :25:48.with his block, but couldn't get his hands sufficiently across the net.

:25:49. > :25:55.Kantor with the serve. That was an opportunity. Even though it wasn't

:25:56. > :25:59.the best of passes, Fluggen was trying to play that over. He misses

:26:00. > :26:08.on the sideline and you can see how he felt about it with his reaction.

:26:09. > :26:16.Easy to say this, but Germany are struggling to relax into this. That

:26:17. > :26:31.is a wonderful block from Kantor to deny him.

:26:32. > :26:52.Poland are unable to build on that last point. Kantor gifted Germany a

:26:53. > :26:56.point. Bockermann with the serve. That could have gone either way. It

:26:57. > :27:10.could just as easily have dribbled over the net as it stayed on his own

:27:11. > :27:14.side to give the Poland the point. Again, Bockermann was not able to

:27:15. > :27:18.deal with the serve but he gets the side out. That is the mark of a good

:27:19. > :27:24.team. Under pressure from the serve, but as you play, you get that chance

:27:25. > :27:28.to get the side out as we hit the technical time-out. Poland are

:27:29. > :28:38.leading 12-9. You just know that things are going

:28:39. > :28:44.right for Poland when they have the audacity to dink the ball quickly

:28:45. > :28:58.and have a hurry up a fence on the back of a poor pass.

:28:59. > :29:04.Bockermann find a way through, but it is Germany who have to find a way

:29:05. > :29:17.back into this game, one point at a time. Bockermann was not obstructed

:29:18. > :29:37.as he went for that. What can he do from the service line?

:29:38. > :29:43.In the scheme of things, five faults each counts as an out, but it is

:29:44. > :29:49.when you make them. That is the big issue. You could go an entire set

:29:50. > :29:52.and not make an error, but if you are one point down and then serve

:29:53. > :29:57.into the net, that are accounts massively against you as you lose

:29:58. > :30:05.the set. But this right now is a must win set for Germany as Fluggen

:30:06. > :30:11.puts that one in. And a bit of luck for Germany. They will take it.

:30:12. > :30:16.There has to come a point in a situation like this and I think it

:30:17. > :30:20.might just happen for Germany when you think not much more could go

:30:21. > :30:29.wrong and now things are starting to go their way. Line block signalled,

:30:30. > :30:39.so Bockermann will try to take the line out at the net. Fluggen will

:30:40. > :30:50.sit crosscourt. Nice block out from Poland. Hi, hard rap into the block.

:30:51. > :31:02.-- high. Excellent play. Despite the fact

:31:03. > :31:07.that Germany again under pressure from server received but Fluggen

:31:08. > :31:12.scurrying to get the ball in play and put it in a position where

:31:13. > :31:18.Bockermann had options. He took the right one in putting it away

:31:19. > :31:22.crosscourt. Germany just two behind. A couple of good service can change

:31:23. > :31:55.the game and that is just what they didn't need. -- good serves.

:31:56. > :32:16.Nothing you can do but stand and stare and admire. Great role shot.

:32:17. > :32:30.Well, they look rather nonplussed by the whole thing at the moment, don't

:32:31. > :32:34.they, Poland? They are pretty cool, calm and collected, very much in the

:32:35. > :32:43.zone. Very much looking to try to get this one done in two sets.

:32:44. > :32:48.Excellent blocking from Kantor. Just held his ground and waited and then

:32:49. > :32:52.pounced. Fluggen, trying to roll this one over the top but did not

:32:53. > :33:11.get enough height and Kantor's hang time denying Fluggen.

:33:12. > :33:17.That time, Kantor just waited but waited a tad too long. Fluggen

:33:18. > :33:24.hammers it away but Germany desperately need points. It is

:33:25. > :33:30.Bockermann who will go back to serve, a weaker rotation for Germany

:33:31. > :33:33.because Bockermann is the blocker so he has to serve and then go running

:33:34. > :33:36.to the net which gives Poland an opportunity to go over on their

:33:37. > :33:41.second attack if it is not a tough enough serve. It is certainly a

:33:42. > :33:53.tough enough serve and free ball for Germany. Oh, nice play from Fluggen!

:33:54. > :33:57.Did not panic. Had the wherewithal to know he could have cut that one

:33:58. > :34:01.away. He knew exactly where Poland were in the scheme of things. No one

:34:02. > :34:04.at the net to block and nobody available crosscourt. Very nicely

:34:05. > :34:15.done. And its Poland who called a

:34:16. > :34:46.time-out. Now that is probably the best view.

:34:47. > :34:54.Although perhaps just a tad far away. Those of you who are new to

:34:55. > :34:58.volleyball and thinking about coming and watching all going to watch a

:34:59. > :35:02.game, definitely do that and if you get the opportunity, at least try

:35:03. > :35:06.and watch a set from end on so you can see how the game develops and

:35:07. > :35:10.you can see how the ball moves from the servers well, especially

:35:11. > :35:16.outdoors. You really appreciate the skill level of these players. The

:35:17. > :35:20.net is two metres 43 in height, eight feet, the same height as the

:35:21. > :35:24.crossbar in football. These guys are getting head and shoulders above it

:35:25. > :35:34.on the sand. It is very, very impressive.

:35:35. > :35:41.Poland still in the driving seat, now find themselves just two points

:35:42. > :35:48.away from wrapping this one up. Losiak with the serve.

:35:49. > :36:08.They are going to go after Kantor, looking for a crosscourt block.

:36:09. > :36:12.Bockermann signalling exactly where he wanted the ball to be served to.

:36:13. > :36:19.A good big from Fluggen, still in play. They have got the block out!

:36:20. > :36:27.-- a good dig. They have got themselves back to within a point.

:36:28. > :36:31.Well, it was a great call from Bockermann, saying, "I want you to

:36:32. > :36:37.go after Kantor, I'm going to take him out crosscourt". They make the

:36:38. > :36:38.dig, Bockermann keeps it in play and Fluggen gets it off the hands and

:36:39. > :36:58.away. Can they do it again? No such luck for Germany. Kantor

:36:59. > :37:12.comes up with the roll shot, and now Poland have match point.

:37:13. > :37:21.Bockermann, to keep Germany in it. And he has done. Losiak had a look.

:37:22. > :37:25.He could have perhaps kept it in play but he didn't back himself to

:37:26. > :37:31.go after it. And the first match is saved. And this now is the best

:37:32. > :37:35.opportunity that Poland will get, their only chance to get this done

:37:36. > :37:39.in regulation. If Germany take the point and we go to 20-20, it is the

:37:40. > :37:45.first to get two cleared to wrap this up or take the set. Not the

:37:46. > :37:50.best of passes. It is an unforced error from Poland. Losiak shot it

:37:51. > :37:57.long and Germany have levelled! Would you believe it? Poland have

:37:58. > :38:03.looked rock-solid all the way up to this point. They had a swing for the

:38:04. > :38:07.match. It has not been taken. Now it is the first to get two clear, will

:38:08. > :38:12.either take the set if it is Germany or the match if it is Poland. Well,

:38:13. > :38:18.that is not quite what Germany were looking for. So, Poland have another

:38:19. > :38:20.match point. But they have got a more difficult scenario here because

:38:21. > :38:24.they can only win this match now from service. They don't have the

:38:25. > :38:32.luxury of being able to side out to get the job done.

:38:33. > :38:39.Brilliance swing from Fluggen! Too much heat for Losiak to handle and

:38:40. > :38:57.we are level once again. Brilliant play from Fluggen. Gave it

:38:58. > :39:05.everything. And got the point. Oh, dear me! Twice now in a row,

:39:06. > :39:12.Germany, with a gift for Poland. It is almost as if they don't want to

:39:13. > :39:19.win this. Another match point. Kantor with the serve. Bockermann to

:39:20. > :39:27.keep them in it but Fluggen goes over on two. And it lands in on the

:39:28. > :39:34.baseline and Poland have done it! They take the set and the match in

:39:35. > :39:37.two sets. A fascinating end to this one. It looked for a minute as

:39:38. > :39:41.though Germany were going to get themselves back into it.

:39:42. > :39:49.Confirmation of the score, 21-11, 20 3-21. Poland have the opening

:39:50. > :39:55.victory over Bockermann and Fluggen. -- 23-21.

:39:56. > :40:00.It was a long, hard look from Kantor, and then checks with the

:40:01. > :40:07.first referee but it had caught the baseline. Well, all smiles now for

:40:08. > :40:12.Poland. Whack to the drawing board for Germany. They were completely

:40:13. > :40:15.outplayed in the first set. They got back into it in the second but

:40:16. > :40:17.perhaps left it just a little too late. They could not engineer a set

:40:18. > :40:30.point of their own. A reminder of the match statistics.

:40:31. > :40:34.They have gone! That was a quick reminder. We will bring you beach

:40:35. > :40:40.volleyball at around about this time for the next few nights on BBC Four

:40:41. > :40:43.because lots of people are enjoying it and it is only down there so we

:40:44. > :40:47.can get to it very easily. Let's give you a reminder of what else you

:40:48. > :40:51.can watch across the BBC at the moment. On BBC One, there is quite

:40:52. > :40:57.the game between Team GB and the Australian hockey team because, this

:40:58. > :41:01.is quite significant, the Aussies are ranked third in the world, Team

:41:02. > :41:06.GB is ranked seventh in the world and they won the bronze medal back

:41:07. > :41:12.in 2012, and they currently lead, I think it is 2-1. Hopefully someone

:41:13. > :41:18.can update me if it is now 31 -- 3-1. Great Britain are leading 2-1.

:41:19. > :41:23.Yes, that was a replay of the second. It is live on BBC One at the

:41:24. > :41:26.moment. The Red Button, a bit of table tennis for you, we showed you

:41:27. > :41:30.Paul Drinkhall earlier, making it safely through to the second round

:41:31. > :41:35.and the table tennis continues on the Red Button. Plenty more sport on

:41:36. > :41:38.bearers well. If you want highlights, want to look back at

:41:39. > :41:42.some of the big things that have happened today, interviews, lots of

:41:43. > :41:46.stuff available on the BBC Sport website and highlights on radio five

:41:47. > :41:49.live as well and you can listen to the podcast, some of their big bits

:41:50. > :41:53.that have happened today as well. We are going to finish our coverage

:41:54. > :41:57.denied by showing you some top quality tennis. We told you earlier

:41:58. > :42:00.that Venus Williams is playing on Centre Court against Kirsten

:42:01. > :42:04.Flipkens of Belgium. Now Venus Williams, this would be an amazing

:42:05. > :42:07.story if she was to win Olympic gold. Serena Williams, her sister,

:42:08. > :42:12.the reigning champion, is the favourite to win the title but Venus

:42:13. > :42:16.actually won Olympic gold in Sydney, 16 years ago. She is undergoing

:42:17. > :42:19.something of a renaissance. She is back in the world's top ten and she

:42:20. > :42:24.comes here with real hope of doing something that would be a little bit

:42:25. > :42:28.special. So it is 1-1 at the moment in her match against Flipkens and

:42:29. > :42:32.Venus Williams is a break-up in the third and deciding set. She's

:42:33. > :42:36.leading 4-2, serving and we will join our commentator from centre

:42:37. > :42:37.court in the tennis, about ten miles away from Copacabana, let's go and

:42:38. > :42:59.listen in. COMMENTATOR: Venus knows she has

:43:00. > :43:07.really got to go after those shots. As to get some pace on them. But be

:43:08. > :44:10.patient at the same time. It is a fine line to walk.

:44:11. > :44:49.A few subtle momentum shifts throughout this set, throughout the

:44:50. > :44:57.entire match. Venus, playing those last two points

:44:58. > :46:03.with authority and composure. Well, she did everything right, set

:46:04. > :46:18.things up beautifully. But makes a mistake on that last forehand.

:46:19. > :46:22.Heartbreaking for her. A chance right here for Flipkens to break

:46:23. > :47:30.back. Flipkens gets the break back,

:47:31. > :47:52.narrows the margin. Right, we are going to join the

:47:53. > :47:59.tennis live now. Flipkens got it back to 4-3. Venous than broke her

:48:00. > :48:02.back out 5-3, so she is now serving once again for a place in the second

:48:03. > :48:11.round. Let's rejoin the tennis at Centre Court.

:48:12. > :48:55.Flipkens at 4-5, serving to stay in it.

:48:56. > :49:09.Full stretch. Williams couldn't control the volley. And Flipkens

:49:10. > :49:11.doing an extraordinary job in moving Williams around the court, keeping

:49:12. > :50:04.her out of her comfort zone. Well, it keeps working for her, so

:50:05. > :50:09.she's going to keep doing it. Got to be confident to play that sort of

:50:10. > :50:14.shot, and she has played it continually throughout this match.

:50:15. > :50:16.It is one thing to have a strategy, but she has been able to carry it

:50:17. > :51:36.out. Superb fighting qualities from

:51:37. > :52:39.Flipkens. Levelling the decider. Well, the call was coming from the

:52:40. > :53:46.chair. The challenge from Venus. Oh, dear. Looking a bit wobbly on

:53:47. > :53:58.serve. Even on the first point, taking a long time to get the toss

:53:59. > :54:07.right, dropping the ball. Got that one right. Very tense times out

:54:08. > :54:54.here. That was the plan, the short ball.

:54:55. > :54:58.Bring Venus in, get the lob up, get her off balance. And it worked for

:54:59. > :55:00.Flipkens on that occasion, as it has so often throughout this match. Two

:55:01. > :55:50.break points for the Belgian. Brilliant play from Flipkens. How's

:55:51. > :55:58.that ball on a string again. -- she has that ball on a string. After

:55:59. > :56:03.three hours, Flipkens leads 6-5 in the third set, on the brink of a

:56:04. > :56:20.major upset here. Well, that was just a few moments

:56:21. > :56:25.ago. We are going to join it live now, because Flipkens, who was

:56:26. > :56:29.serving for the win actually lost her service game, so after three

:56:30. > :56:38.hours of tennis, we are now going into a final set tie-break to decide

:56:39. > :56:43.who goes through. We have been out here for a touch

:56:44. > :56:47.over three hours. Now it will all come down to a tie-break. Who can

:56:48. > :57:58.produce the goods here? That was a superb slice from

:57:59. > :58:11.Flipkens. Such a wonderful combination.

:58:12. > :58:39.Full stretch. Tremendous athlete, great move around the court. --

:58:40. > :59:09.great mover. Again, the short ball foiling

:59:10. > :59:13.Williams. Can't get over the shot, has to get under it. It's created

:59:14. > :59:39.all sorts of difficulties for her at times tonight.

:59:40. > :59:48.It was predictable, but still, Venus couldn't do anything about it.

:59:49. > :00:32.Flipkens has played that strategy to perfection. Created uncertainty.

:00:33. > :00:53.It's in. It's been called out. So close, relief for Venus. As long as

:00:54. > :02:03.they changed ends in this tie-break, it's Flipkens with a 4-2 lead.

:02:04. > :02:11.Flipkens just making things so tough for Williams, sending it high to

:02:12. > :02:16.that backhand side again, one of the toughest shots in the game to hit.

:02:17. > :02:36.Especially in a pressured situation like this.

:02:37. > :03:16.A shriek of desperation from Williams, as she landed that first

:03:17. > :04:13.serve, she needed that one. Tight forehand from the Belgian. And

:04:14. > :04:26.we are all level, 1-1, 6-6, 5-5 in the tie-break.

:04:27. > :04:29.UMPIRE: Ms Williams is challenging the call on the left-hand baseline.

:04:30. > :04:42.The ball was called out. 6-5. Flipkens. Pressure serve from

:04:43. > :04:57.Flipkens. Match point for the Belgian. Please.

:04:58. > :05:47.Thank you. Kirsten Flipkens, an emotional

:05:48. > :05:52.victory for her, coming through and epic first round battle against the

:05:53. > :06:04.sentimental favourite out here, Venus Williams.

:06:05. > :06:10.What a way to finish our coverage on BBC Four on day one of the Olympics,

:06:11. > :06:13.an incredible with the Kirsten Flipkens, knocking out Venus

:06:14. > :06:17.Williams, Olympic champion of 16 years ago, a great day for Belgium

:06:18. > :06:20.as well, winning the road race earlier and Kirsten Flipkens has

:06:21. > :06:23.made it through, only to the second round but a remarkable win, well

:06:24. > :06:27.over three hours of tennis on Centre Court and Flipkens has got the

:06:28. > :06:33.better of Venus Williams. It is still Serena Williams who is

:06:34. > :06:36.favourite to win the title and retain the gold medal. That is what

:06:37. > :06:44.the Olympics means to Kirsten Flipkens. Well, thank you if you

:06:45. > :06:48.have been with us for some or all of the evening tonight on BBC Four, I

:06:49. > :06:55.know it is well past 2am back home. It is 10p a month beach. Ore Oduba

:06:56. > :06:59.is going to be back on BBC tomorrow and I will be back on Monday because

:07:00. > :07:03.we are still in the middle of the action in Rio. On BBC One right now,

:07:04. > :07:07.Jason Mohammad will continue to show you the best of the action from the

:07:08. > :07:11.first day of the Olympic Games, including Adam Peaty and Ross

:07:12. > :07:15.Murdoch in the semifinal of the men's 100 metres breast stroke. That

:07:16. > :07:20.is in about an hour's time on BBC One. But at the end of the first on

:07:21. > :07:24.BBC Four, we have clocked it up, managed to show you ten different

:07:25. > :07:27.sports in the first day and some live fishing. I know it is

:07:28. > :07:31.technically not an Olympic event but we had live finish -- live fishing

:07:32. > :07:35.in ten sports so I think we have done quite well. We should leave you

:07:36. > :07:38.from the Team GB perspective with perhaps the image of the day, a

:07:39. > :07:42.world record from his first time in a pool in Rio, a world record for

:07:43. > :07:45.Great Britain's Adam Peaty. Goodbye.
