:00:00. > :00:13.CLARE BALDING: Good evening and welcome back to further coverage of
:00:14. > :00:18.the Olympics from here in Rio. To viewers BBC One, confirmation that
:00:19. > :00:22.Mark Cavendish took the silver medal in the Omni, his first Olympic
:00:23. > :00:26.medal. Laura Trott is currently involved in the elimination race,
:00:27. > :00:31.the third of six events in the Omni, and the aim here is not to finish
:00:32. > :00:36.last when they sprint every other lap, so we are on sprint seven of
:00:37. > :00:42.16, and Laura Trott is looking comfortable. We will leave you on
:00:43. > :00:44.BBC Two, join us now on BBC One where we rejoin commentary with
:00:45. > :00:50.Chris Boardman and Simon Brotherton. COMMENTATOR: Laura Trott still in
:00:51. > :00:54.this field, the tension really building, the elimination race is
:00:55. > :00:58.exciting. Laura Trott is towards the back of the moment, needs to move
:00:59. > :01:05.forward, and she has realised that, moving around the outside of the
:01:06. > :01:12.track. She is comfortable riding this race at the front or back, she
:01:13. > :01:15.just smoothly went through, she looks so strong and confident she
:01:16. > :01:20.moves to the front, Sarah Hammer has barely moved out of the first three,
:01:21. > :01:26.so desperate not to get eliminated early. Lauren Ellis from New Zealand
:01:27. > :01:30.is the latest rider out, and in the end, we will just have two sprinting
:01:31. > :01:37.for the line, but it is so relentless, that bell every other
:01:38. > :01:43.lap. Sprint every 30 seconds. Sarah Hammer has found herself in a
:01:44. > :01:47.difficult spot, panicking a little early. Annette Edmondson is also at
:01:48. > :01:51.the back, and she needs to get a little bit of a sprint on to avoid
:01:52. > :01:59.getting knocked out, it may well be the rider from China who is out, Lou
:02:00. > :02:05.Ojha Lane from China. Edmondson had to sprint there to keep her place in
:02:06. > :02:10.the field. Hammer has found herself at the back, she is having to sprint
:02:11. > :02:17.it out, Laura finding herself on the front, Hama just has one rider
:02:18. > :02:30.behind have a safety. Sharrock over tried to go around the outside. . --
:02:31. > :02:42.Sharakova. She is in the white and green of Belarus. And that is Laurie
:02:43. > :02:45.Berthon out. Not many laps remaining now, and every sprint will count.
:02:46. > :02:53.They take the bell again. And Sarah Hammer finds herself on the back.
:02:54. > :02:58.Laura Trott is on the inside now, that is dangerous, but she spotted
:02:59. > :03:02.immediately and creates a hole. And Sarah Hammer now is having to dig in
:03:03. > :03:06.to make sure she is not eliminated here as they come up towards the
:03:07. > :03:14.line, and the rider out is the rider from Germany, Anna Knauer. Sarah
:03:15. > :03:17.Hammer likes to ride on the front normally, but dangling on the back
:03:18. > :03:23.and having to come along way around each time, it a costly way to do it.
:03:24. > :03:27.So she is having to sprint harder than the riders on the front. You
:03:28. > :03:31.lose five metres going up the banking on the corners like that.
:03:32. > :03:36.Laura Trott looks comfortable in the middle of this small pack now. This
:03:37. > :03:47.is the 12th sprint in the elimination race, Laura Trott on the
:03:48. > :03:58.outside. Dideriksen on the outside, and the Belarus rider, Sharakova, is
:03:59. > :04:03.out, so we are down to six now. It is D'Hoore from the Netherlands,
:04:04. > :04:08.Edmondson, Laura Trott. Sarah Hammer is there. It looks like she's
:04:09. > :04:13.decided to ride from the back and keep sprinting. Edmondson knows what
:04:14. > :04:19.the strategy is now, and she knows the America will, at her soon. This
:04:20. > :04:25.will be difficult for Hama, and Dideriksen might get boxed in little
:04:26. > :04:27.on the left-hand side. Amelie Dideriksen frustrated, she was in a
:04:28. > :04:33.good position but was closing in with the other two sprinting. That
:04:34. > :04:37.was strongly dashed by Sarah Hammer. She showed her hand a little bit, is
:04:38. > :04:41.holding something back for that final sprint, and now it is Laura
:04:42. > :04:47.Trott she has got between her and staying in this race. Laura Trott
:04:48. > :04:54.moving alongside Kirsten Wild on the edge of the track. Sarah Hammer is
:04:55. > :04:57.in big trouble here now in this particular sprint as Laura Trott
:04:58. > :05:06.moves through on the outside, comfortably through, and Edmondson
:05:07. > :05:12.is out. Edmondson was riding nicely, and suddenly, there was nowhere to
:05:13. > :05:15.go. Laura Trott is there for Great Britain, Sarah Hammer has decided to
:05:16. > :05:22.try to take this one from the front, to try to make sure she can stay in.
:05:23. > :05:29.Laura Trott in the back position now, so she has got it all to do.
:05:30. > :05:32.She needs to be a bit careful, D'Hoore and Kirsten Wild are both
:05:33. > :05:37.capable of sprinting, but here she comes once more. D'Hoore is at the
:05:38. > :05:45.back and could well be out, no, it is Kirsten Wild. The Netherlands
:05:46. > :05:49.out. Trot doesn't look like she is being challenged at all at the
:05:50. > :05:54.moment, just one more to go before that final sprint for the line. It
:05:55. > :05:57.is down to three, and Laura is still there from Great Britain, with Sarah
:05:58. > :06:07.Hammer her great rival from the United States, and D'Hoore. Sarah
:06:08. > :06:12.Hammer has attacked now, treating this like a match sprint, Laura
:06:13. > :06:19.Trott is going after the American, how much does Sarah Hammer have as
:06:20. > :06:24.much left? D'Hoore brings up the rear of the three of them, and easy
:06:25. > :06:31.over the line is Laura Trott. She might be out there, it was very,
:06:32. > :06:35.very close. Let's have a look. It is the American who is out, Sarah
:06:36. > :06:42.Hammer is gone. She will finish third, she is eliminated, and
:06:43. > :06:50.D'Hoore and Laura Trott, one final sprint to see who will win this
:06:51. > :06:54.race. I would accurately say it is Laura Trott's to lose here. And the
:06:55. > :06:58.sprint is on down the back straight, Laura Trott takes it on, and Julian
:06:59. > :07:04.Deraa hasn't got enough to take it on and respond, and once more, Laura
:07:05. > :07:11.Trott shows she is masterful when it comes to the elimination race.
:07:12. > :07:14.Nobody can touch her. The defending Olympian champion is absolutely
:07:15. > :07:18.flying here on the opening day of competition, and she will end the
:07:19. > :07:23.first day in first place at the top of the standings. She just floated
:07:24. > :07:28.through that event, and has put another couple of points between her
:07:29. > :07:34.and her rival Hama. Hama now in third position behind D'Hoore on the
:07:35. > :07:41.overall points. What a ride by her, and she was like she was in a
:07:42. > :07:44.different race. We have seen two fantastic rides from Laura Trott
:07:45. > :07:49.this evening. She has never ridden faster than she did today to win
:07:50. > :07:53.that section of the competition, and now here as well, this was the
:07:54. > :07:56.banker for her in many ways, she is always there at the end of the
:07:57. > :08:03.sprints, and she was dominant here against the Belgian. And in doing
:08:04. > :08:08.this, she just cruised away, she has a ten point lead over Sarah Hammer,
:08:09. > :08:13.and considering she is sprinting better, as well, that really bodes
:08:14. > :08:17.well for her in that points race. So, at this point, Laura Trott looks
:08:18. > :08:22.to be the class of the field in the women's Army in defence of her
:08:23. > :08:28.title. She leads on 118 points, Jolien D'Hoore is second on 110, and
:08:29. > :08:31.Sarah Hammer, you can see the effort on her face there from that
:08:32. > :08:38.elimination race, in the bronze medal position on 108, there is the
:08:39. > :08:45.confirmation and the leaderboard. CLARE BALDING: It is staggering how
:08:46. > :08:51.good Laura Trott is. Chris, is it tactical awareness as well as her
:08:52. > :08:54.technique? She has the confidence because she knows she has the turn
:08:55. > :08:59.of speed that she can leave it to the last second, she has options,
:09:00. > :09:04.whereas other girls, they tend to have one particular strength that
:09:05. > :09:08.they play too. Just a really assured, confident performance
:09:09. > :09:12.there. Sarah Hammer, you could see her head dropping when she realised
:09:13. > :09:15.she had third place. Laura is opening the gap over her rivals, and
:09:16. > :09:20.you can't look beyond her for this gold-medal. She is defending her
:09:21. > :09:24.title in style so far, the halfway stage of the Omni and with the 500
:09:25. > :09:29.metres time trial, with the points race to come tomorrow. Let's have
:09:30. > :09:35.another look at the end of the race, because it is only at the very last
:09:36. > :09:40.stage that it becomes that hat and -- cat and mouse sprint. Laura has
:09:41. > :09:45.the height here, attacking with more height, and she rolls straight past
:09:46. > :09:49.the Belgian who has to try to create the speed from the bottom of the
:09:50. > :09:55.track, and it is all over. What a great performance. A terrific effort
:09:56. > :10:00.from Laura Trott, but we should also mention, this is her third event of
:10:01. > :10:03.the day, and that individual pursuit, she set her fastest time
:10:04. > :10:07.ever, and it seems not have taken anything out of her. She has come
:10:08. > :10:14.back incredibly well, and that is part of this event, and to do it
:10:15. > :10:17.over one another half seconds off the Olympic record as part of a
:10:18. > :10:21.multi-event, that is just incredible. That's look at the
:10:22. > :10:31.standings of the halfway stage of the women's on the. So, Jolien
:10:32. > :10:36.D'Hoore is now second ahead of Sarah Hammer. Who are the dangers in the
:10:37. > :10:39.events left? Sarah Hammer is traditionally up there, she is
:10:40. > :10:44.consistently in the medals. The same way for the men's race for the boys
:10:45. > :10:47.it was the points race that was the decider, so no matter how well it
:10:48. > :10:52.goes tomorrow, it will be down to the final race. Katie Archibald
:10:53. > :10:57.stand there with her, offering her support, and Laura just laughing,
:10:58. > :11:01.she is having a ball. She always seems genuinely surprised when she
:11:02. > :11:06.does well. You will see her beforehand, she is saying, I don't
:11:07. > :11:11.know, and she will get up there and smash it and go, oh, I can't believe
:11:12. > :11:17.it! And it is genuine. She is just riding a wave at the moment, nothing
:11:18. > :11:21.she does seems to be a trouble to her, she isn't fatigued, she is
:11:22. > :11:27.happy, relaxed, so fingers crossed it can continue. There was only one
:11:28. > :11:31.medal on offer during tonight's racing session, but tomorrow we have
:11:32. > :11:35.the potential of three, because obviously the women's Omni, and you
:11:36. > :11:39.would think Jason Kenny would be favourite for the men's keirin. And
:11:40. > :11:45.it could yet end up being Becky James against Katy Marchand in an
:11:46. > :11:50.all British affair. It could end up being a 3-goal night, it is
:11:51. > :11:51.possible. Suspect coaching team are very pleased with themselves with
:11:52. > :11:59.one session to go. Another medal, you have hit your
:12:00. > :12:04.target you were set by UK sport, that is a big relief. I don't think
:12:05. > :12:12.we felt under pressure to deliver medal targets, the only pressure we
:12:13. > :12:17.created was within the team, just to produce our best performances, and
:12:18. > :12:20.the rest will take care of itself. So from that point of view, now that
:12:21. > :12:25.you have said it like that, that is great, we will take it, thank you!
:12:26. > :12:30.All to play for still with Laura in the omnium tomorrow, and of course
:12:31. > :12:35.men's keirin, and we still have Katy and Becky and the women's sprint
:12:36. > :12:40.tomorrow. No wonder you are smiling. What about Laura Trott, she looks
:12:41. > :12:44.super strong? It was an elimination example, wasn't it? She loves the
:12:45. > :12:47.elimination, it is possibly the worst event for me to watch, not
:12:48. > :12:54.good for the old ticker, but she did a super job and looked good. We saw
:12:55. > :12:58.Mark Cavendish with his silver, third time lucky for him, a long
:12:59. > :13:03.time coming. He deserves it, and all credit to him coming back off Tour
:13:04. > :13:07.de France, four stage wins, 30 in total, what an amazing record that
:13:08. > :13:13.is, and then finally, last throw of the dice for him to medal in the
:13:14. > :13:15.omnium. See you could win potentially three more goals
:13:16. > :13:20.tomorrow, maybe a silver as well. Can you pinch yourself? I will come
:13:21. > :13:25.back to the process, we try not to get too carried away. We're just
:13:26. > :13:28.making sure our athletes are in the best shape tomorrow morning. Laura
:13:29. > :13:32.has a lot of recovery to do to make sure she's in the shape for
:13:33. > :13:36.tomorrow. We just need everybody in their best position. Spirit is
:13:37. > :13:44.sky-high in the team? Yes, morale is fantastic, confidences hi, we are in
:13:45. > :13:46.a good position. Meanwhile, the medal ceremony for
:13:47. > :13:52.the men's on the is about to take place, and this represent a real
:13:53. > :13:56.feather in the cap for Mark Cavendish, because Chris, you know
:13:57. > :13:59.him well, he made no secret of the fact that the Olympic medal was the
:14:00. > :14:04.one thing that he was missing that he desperately wanted. Everybody
:14:05. > :14:11.else in the team seem to have a medal of some colour, he loves the
:14:12. > :14:17.track, it was where he started, and he didn't have to do this, but it
:14:18. > :14:22.was very much the same way as Bradley Wiggins, and I bet he is
:14:23. > :14:28.glad he has done. It finished over on BBC two with a thrilling points
:14:29. > :14:30.race which secured victory, he took the gold medal, but Mark Cavendish
:14:31. > :14:36.was locked in a real battle with Lasse Hansen of Denmark for the
:14:37. > :14:37.silver medal, and this is him receiving his bronze medal, and huge
:14:38. > :14:50.credit to him. The champion in London four years
:14:51. > :14:58.ago could not possibly have done any more tonight after making a
:14:59. > :15:01.monumental error at the end of the first day of competition in being
:15:02. > :15:10.the first rider out in the elimination race. He lost 40 in that
:15:11. > :15:14.one event. He will be smarting, it does not mean the race would have
:15:15. > :15:33.panned out that way but he was one of the animators. He was so strong.
:15:34. > :15:44.Mark Cavendish! What a roar around the Velodrome. He has made it onto
:15:45. > :15:57.an Olympic podium at the third time of asking. Mark Cavendish who has
:15:58. > :16:05.won so much during his career, world titles on the road and the track, so
:16:06. > :16:14.many stages in the tours, and now a medal to go with it. Justifying what
:16:15. > :16:39.was a contentious selection as well. Did everyone proud. Representing
:16:40. > :16:47.Italy... Fabrice Santoro! -- Fabrice Santoro -- Elia Viviani.
:16:48. > :16:56.All these riders know each other well and he was the favourite coming
:16:57. > :17:12.in here and you can see why. Won three stages of the Tour of Britain.
:17:13. > :17:40.He has landed a big medal and now time for the Italian anthem.
:17:41. > :19:05.The crowd joining in the celebration, clapping for Viviani,
:19:06. > :19:11.the gold medal in the men's omnium. He led going into the final race and
:19:12. > :19:16.he maintained his advantage during that 160 race but it is good to see
:19:17. > :19:21.Mark Cavendish when an Olympic medal. He was unlucky in Beijing and
:19:22. > :19:28.London but after a lot of hard work he has finished with a silver medal
:19:29. > :19:33.here in Rio. CLARE BALDING: And that is Italy Peter Coulter ape gold
:19:34. > :19:39.medal. Great Britain are in second and remain in second. That silver
:19:40. > :19:48.medal for Mark Cavendish brings the total number of medals for Team GB
:19:49. > :19:53.241. Sir Chris Hoy joins me and a final word on Mark Cavendish, he
:19:54. > :19:59.said in his interview that the idea of Tokyo was not particularly
:20:00. > :20:04.attractive. I think he would certainly go back regardless even if
:20:05. > :20:08.he did not plan to come back to Tokyo, but four is a long time to
:20:09. > :20:14.look ahead particularly for a road rider who races most weekends, he
:20:15. > :20:18.will be looking for a break and then he will make a decision from there.
:20:19. > :20:24.Absolutely. Thank you for all your contributions. One more day of
:20:25. > :20:31.cycling to come. I am sad. It has been so good, but the potential of
:20:32. > :20:38.three gold medals tomorrow. Definitely. Laura Trott leads at the
:20:39. > :20:47.halfway stage of the omnium. Becky James going in the sprint and the
:20:48. > :20:54.last race for Jason Kenny. We are going to shift into highlights mode.
:20:55. > :21:03.Mark Chapman will join in but I will tell you what is coming up between
:21:04. > :21:08.now and midnight. We will be going live in a few minutes to see the
:21:09. > :21:11.women's hockey team in the semi-finals, the bronze medallists
:21:12. > :21:21.from London 2012 are in action against Spain. There were medals on
:21:22. > :21:31.offer at the Olympic Stadium where Sophie Hitchon was aiming to hammer
:21:32. > :21:35.her rivals. And we are boxing in the ring with Britain's Muhammad Ali and
:21:36. > :21:43.we will see the heavyweight champion crowned. The British men's doubles
:21:44. > :21:46.pairing of Marcus Ellis anchors language are hoping to book their
:21:47. > :21:51.place in the semi-finals and we will see how they got on against much
:21:52. > :21:59.higher ranked opponents -- Chris Smith. We will be looking back at
:22:00. > :22:07.events here following another dramatic day -- and we will be
:22:08. > :22:14.seeing how the Queen of Drescher as, how she got on, Charlotte Dujardin
:22:15. > :22:21.in defence of her title, she was in action and that always goes down a
:22:22. > :22:29.hat. We will start with hockey, the Great Britain team in London won a
:22:30. > :22:31.bronze medal. The bronze medal match, they eventually won, here is
:22:32. > :22:52.a reminder of the progress so far. An absolute beauty. Great Britain
:22:53. > :22:58.have got their Olympic hockey tournament off to a dream start. It
:22:59. > :23:05.is bundled through into the gold by Alex and that will be that. This
:23:06. > :23:12.tournament really starting to hot up. Lets the ball over. Great
:23:13. > :23:23.Britain have won it and they remain unbeaten in the Olympic tournament
:23:24. > :23:26.so far. Great Britain versus Japan. By height. Great Britain have
:23:27. > :23:33.notched another win, whoever wins this will go into the quarterfinals
:23:34. > :23:37.having won there are group. It is a goal for Alex Danson, maximum
:23:38. > :23:45.points, five wins out of five, Great Britain are the top team in the
:23:46. > :23:48.Olympic tournament. They have made great progress through the rounds
:23:49. > :23:52.and less than one hour ago they ran out knowing a win tonight would keep
:23:53. > :24:04.them in the hunt for a medal, here is what has happened so far against
:24:05. > :24:10.Spain with our commentators. Fleck, scores, Great Britain are in front.
:24:11. > :24:19.Came off of the stick of Georgie Twigg. Ball goes out to the far left
:24:20. > :24:24.hand side as we look. She fires the ball and it was either going to be
:24:25. > :24:29.Helen Richardson Walsh who we saw firing them, but this is a team that
:24:30. > :24:33.shows as confidence because the injectors there, stick on the floor,
:24:34. > :24:43.Helen Richardson Walsh and misses it, 1-0 Great Britain. Bad pass,
:24:44. > :24:49.straight to Alex Danson in acres of space, flicks it to her left to
:24:50. > :24:57.Sophie Bray who fires it end, that is an easy finish. For Helen
:24:58. > :25:03.Richardson Walsh. Helen Richardson Walsh of pointers between two
:25:04. > :25:09.Spanish defenders. Simple tap in for Britain's highest scorer of the
:25:10. > :25:13.tournament so far. 2-0, a struggle for Spain and hopefully Great
:25:14. > :25:26.Britain will continue to push on. Great Britain possession once again.
:25:27. > :25:34.She sends it in and Alex Danson picks it up. What an easy finish for
:25:35. > :25:45.Lily. Sophie Bray with a fantastic first touch. Lily Owsley in the air,
:25:46. > :25:48.into basically an open goal. GB are first at everything this evening and
:25:49. > :25:51.everything they are touching seems to be going at least towards the
:25:52. > :25:57.goal and if it is not ending up in the back of the net, it is making
:25:58. > :26:02.Lopez make the save. Georgie Twigg, Helen Richardson Walsh, all on the
:26:03. > :26:06.scoreboard, Great Britain leading 3-0, this is live hockey and they
:26:07. > :26:11.are fighting for a place in the semi-finals and it can be vicious
:26:12. > :26:20.stuff, let us join our commentators live. Hannah Macleod has taken a
:26:21. > :26:23.clout on the head. Great Britain three, Spain zero, but Spain
:26:24. > :26:30.enjoying their best moment of the match I'm getting close to the Great
:26:31. > :26:36.Britain goal. Pushing up behind. Maddie Hinch has not had a lot to
:26:37. > :26:40.do, Spain press forward, there is a little bit of relief for Great
:26:41. > :26:44.Britain, a chance to build from the back ad create an attack at the
:26:45. > :26:51.other end of the pitch here at the Diadoro. Maddie Hinch did well. It
:26:52. > :26:57.was Garcia who was three yards offside she gets a touch on it as
:26:58. > :27:02.the ball was bouncing them. Great Britain got off to a brilliant
:27:03. > :27:07.start. Three goals in the first half, Georgie Twigg, Helen
:27:08. > :27:13.Richardson Walsh, Lily Owsley, Laura Unsworth. Georgie Twigg. Short,
:27:14. > :27:21.sharp, crisp passing from the British team. They are in the
:27:22. > :27:25.process of dominating Spain here. If they win this match and that looks
:27:26. > :27:36.likely at the moment, eight minutes to play in the third period, they
:27:37. > :27:45.will face New Zealand in the semis. Aerial ball. Taken out of the error
:27:46. > :28:01.comfortably. White inside. Goes backwards Unsworth. Kate, Helen
:28:02. > :28:09.Richardson Walsh. They faced New Zealand in the bronze medal match
:28:10. > :28:14.four years ago. Crista Cullen got herself on the scoreboard from the
:28:15. > :28:22.penalty corner. Helen Richardson Walsh. Hannah Macleod waiting in
:28:23. > :28:27.front of the goal. Fantastic interchange between Helen Richardson
:28:28. > :28:34.Walsh and Lily Owsley. The ball did not quite find its way to her.
:28:35. > :28:48.Georgie Twigg takes it. Tucked in, backhand attempt. Shona McCallin.
:28:49. > :28:52.Snapshot from Shona McCallin to get the ball on target and that game has
:28:53. > :28:57.been a real strength from Great Britain this evening, everything
:28:58. > :29:04.they have touched in that circle has gone at. Lily Owsley and Hannah
:29:05. > :29:09.Macleod did well to get out of that sticky situation. A Spanish ball in
:29:10. > :29:12.the middle of the field. The Spanish captain started the game as a
:29:13. > :29:19.forward and is now playing as a centre back, she is the number
:29:20. > :29:24.three, she has played three quarters of international career there. Shona
:29:25. > :29:33.McCallin getting a talking to. She has already had a two minute
:29:34. > :29:34.suspension. As soon as the umpire had his back turned, she was at it
:29:35. > :30:06.again. Lucio Gimenez is just trying to set
:30:07. > :30:17.it up, it has gone all the way back into the second half. Nicola White
:30:18. > :30:23.is set up, she holds it up. Georgie Twigg is into the circle.
:30:24. > :30:28.Unfortunately she couldn't make contact. It is just wave after wave
:30:29. > :30:31.of British attack at the moment. Spain started this quarter brighter
:30:32. > :30:41.than they have done in any of the other quarters so far.
:30:42. > :30:49.Giselle Ansley with the decisive tackle, but Garcia has picked it up
:30:50. > :30:56.to Spain, feeds it through to Berta Bonastre. But Hollie Webb turns and
:30:57. > :31:00.goes back upfield from Great Britain. What a tournament they have
:31:01. > :31:06.had, five matches played in the pools, five wins, looking for six
:31:07. > :31:11.out of six tonight, and a place in the semifinals. Sophie Bray has been
:31:12. > :31:12.the outstanding player on the field this evening from Great Britain,
:31:13. > :31:26.number 19. Unsworth in a forward position.
:31:27. > :31:33.White ahead of her down the right, first touch is a good one from
:31:34. > :31:43.white, slides it inside to Danson. Danson keeps it going. Danson
:31:44. > :31:47.appealing for the penalty corner. I thought it was going to be given,
:31:48. > :31:57.she drove into the circle and rustic tackled, but the umpire felt she had
:31:58. > :31:58.given Alex Danson the advantage. Giselle Ansley tangling in midfield
:31:59. > :32:20.once again. Spain go all the way back to Rocio
:32:21. > :32:39.Gutierrez. Played forward to Xantal Gine. That will fall to Annesley.
:32:40. > :32:48.Sam Quek, a little flick from Sophie Bray, and she gets the shot, but it
:32:49. > :32:51.is a miscue. Good defending in the end by Gutierrez to close Sophie
:32:52. > :33:03.Bray down as she wound up on the forehand. The pass from Georgie
:33:04. > :33:07.Twigg was bouncing in front of Nicola White, who couldn't get a
:33:08. > :33:11.decent touch. Danny Kerry looking pretty comfortable at the moment. A
:33:12. > :33:14.tricky start of everybody tonight, because the adjacent hillside was in
:33:15. > :33:18.flames when we arrived at the Hockey Centre earlier, a big forest fire
:33:19. > :33:23.raging, and the whole area was filled with smoke. They seem to have
:33:24. > :33:31.got it under control, it was threatening the BMX Centre for a
:33:32. > :33:38.while. Spain are threatening Great Britain's goal here, but Maddie
:33:39. > :33:44.Hinch gets in the way. Fantastic drive down the right-hand side.
:33:45. > :33:52.Hinch comes out and ends up with a think it was Lola Riera up there.
:33:53. > :33:57.That is the closest Spain have come, still in possession in the circle.
:33:58. > :34:01.Giselle Ansley getting her stick in there, and it will be a penalty
:34:02. > :34:19.corner for Spain. It is their first of the match. Rocio Ybarra does well
:34:20. > :34:22.here, Spain do have a lot of corn options, but they will probably use
:34:23. > :34:28.Lola Riera. They do have a number of tricks up their sleeve if they do
:34:29. > :34:37.need to use them. Lola Riera is positioning herself potentially for
:34:38. > :34:47.the drag flick. And number nine, Maria Lopez, is in the vicinity as
:34:48. > :34:50.well. And it is way over the top. Lily Owsley does exceptionally well
:34:51. > :34:58.as the number-1 runner, gets out of the top and is able very easily to
:34:59. > :35:06.get the ball the bar. Vieira does pick the ball up, and she takes a to
:35:07. > :35:07.releases her stick. Into the circle again, Sam Quek gets her stick in
:35:08. > :35:20.the way to defend. No touch on the ball. Alex Danson
:35:21. > :35:30.comes away with it down the right. Driven in by Jimenez, and it was a
:35:31. > :35:37.good-looking move. Fantastic touch. Absolutely brilliant touch in the
:35:38. > :35:42.circle. Bonastre I think it was with that touch. Meanwhile, Danson and
:35:43. > :35:50.Bray are rampaging at the other end. At court, Danson just spent half a
:35:51. > :35:53.second too long on the ball. That was an example of the difference
:35:54. > :35:57.between the first half of the third quarter. The first half, the ball
:35:58. > :36:00.would have been passed, or that left-to-right drag from Danson would
:36:01. > :36:07.have been done out of the reach of the defender. Hollie Webb. Keeping
:36:08. > :36:12.possession for Great Britain. Tries to feed it to Danson, but Danson's
:36:13. > :36:21.first touch watched by the Spanish defence. Into the last 30 seconds of
:36:22. > :36:28.the third quarter, Great Britain three - zero Spain.
:36:29. > :36:35.Laura Unsworth, outstanding defence yet again. Great Britain will hope
:36:36. > :36:45.to just hold possession for the last few seconds of the quarter. And
:36:46. > :36:50.there is the quarter time hooter, 15 minutes of play left in this match.
:36:51. > :36:58.The scoreline here, Great Britain 3-0 Spain.
:36:59. > :37:07.A better quarter for Spain. It was. I think part of it is probably Great
:37:08. > :37:10.Britain have taken their foot off the pedal are little bit, but I
:37:11. > :37:15.think Spain have come into it more and more. It has been a dominant
:37:16. > :37:17.performance, and we know the British defence is extremely difficult to
:37:18. > :37:22.break down, and that will be the key focus for this fourth quarter. They
:37:23. > :37:26.will want to give a clean sheet and limit the opportunities they offer
:37:27. > :37:31.to Spain. And go in hopefully to that semifinal still on the rise, I
:37:32. > :37:35.don't think they have reached the perfect game yet, I still don't
:37:36. > :37:37.think they are playing their best hockey, but they are winning
:37:38. > :37:42.matches, and potentially at the moment, six from six. Germany
:37:43. > :37:48.already through to the semis, they will face either the Netherlands or
:37:49. > :37:54.Argentina, the winner of this one will face New Zealand in the other
:37:55. > :37:57.semi. Those semifinals due on Wednesday with the bronze medal and
:37:58. > :38:03.gold medal matches scheduled for Friday. Great Britain's men out of
:38:04. > :38:10.the tournament, didn't make the knockout stages. And that result,
:38:11. > :38:16.the men being knocked out of the tournament, has put pressure on the
:38:17. > :38:20.ladies. There is a huge funding requirement that one of the teams
:38:21. > :38:23.needs to medal at this tournament, so they need to do well if they want
:38:24. > :38:40.to secure funding to get to Tokyo. So, are ready for the final corner,
:38:41. > :38:44.50 minutes of play left in this quarterfinal of the Olympic
:38:45. > :38:53.tournament. Great Britain leading Spain by three goals to nil. On the
:38:54. > :39:02.way. Aerial ball to kick things off for Spain, nicely controlled. They
:39:03. > :39:07.have got players forward, Dini, the number 11, already in the players'
:39:08. > :39:15.circle. Sam Quek and Nicola White back to defend. -- Guinea. Spain
:39:16. > :39:22.immediately take up residence inside the British 23. Wonderful skills
:39:23. > :39:32.from Quek, and it is chased down the left, but it is too strong for
:39:33. > :39:40.Hannah Macleod. S that is the Spanish coach, Adrian Locke. He has
:39:41. > :39:43.done really well with this team, there is a lack of funding in
:39:44. > :39:45.Spanish Ochieng the moment, so the men making the quarterfinals and the
:39:46. > :39:49.ladies making the quarterfinals hopefully will be a boost to their
:39:50. > :39:53.programme and they will be able to find the funding necessary. He is
:39:54. > :39:56.earning Ashman, used to play his hockey with Beeston, and has worked
:39:57. > :39:59.his way through the junior age groups, said he has probably worked
:40:00. > :40:02.with a number of these players over a number of years. On the right with
:40:03. > :40:21.a bit of space, Georgina Oliva, and again, this is just a
:40:22. > :40:35.fraction too strong. That will headband a baseline
:40:36. > :40:41.harmlessly enough. And Great Britain will begin again with the ball in
:40:42. > :40:53.the hands of the captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh. And now, Sam Quek.
:40:54. > :40:56.Nicola White turns and goes. In fact it is Lily Owsley, I beg your
:40:57. > :41:03.pardon, who finds Helen Richardson-Walsh. Hold it up, missed
:41:04. > :41:06.the target, but it has been gathered by Susannah Townsend who was looking
:41:07. > :41:13.for a Spanish foot on the edge of the circle. Lily Owsley again.
:41:14. > :41:16.Again, what Britain got right in the first half was they went round the
:41:17. > :41:20.outside of the Spanish press, so they were getting the ball wide and
:41:21. > :41:23.onto the baseline, is at the moment they are little guilty of running
:41:24. > :41:26.the ball into the numbers, Spain want you to attack the top of the
:41:27. > :41:34.circle because they have defenders waiting for you. Crista Cullen, back
:41:35. > :41:42.to Kate Richardson-Walsh, and across to Sam Quek. Kate Richardson-Walsh
:41:43. > :41:49.in no hurry here, waiting for the channels to open up. Sam Quek has
:41:50. > :41:54.seen one, ages forward. Slide it back. Unsworth is surrounded quickly
:41:55. > :42:10.by the Spanish midfield. Cullen in a forward position. That
:42:11. > :42:13.first touch from Helen Richardson-Walsh let her down
:42:14. > :42:19.slightly, but it has come back to Cullen. Now Susannah Townsend. Very
:42:20. > :42:26.solid, close contact hockey, just under our commentary position. GB
:42:27. > :42:29.certainly favour attacking down the right-hand side. I think Helen
:42:30. > :42:33.Richardson-Walsh was probably trying to play the ball into space for
:42:34. > :42:37.Susannah Townsend to run onto, which she got caught in two minds, and it
:42:38. > :42:45.appeared to be a missed tap rather than the past. Spain the Olympic
:42:46. > :42:47.champions back in 1982 at the Barcelona games, they won the gold.
:42:48. > :43:00.Great written to the bronze that year. Now, this is looking
:43:01. > :43:06.promising, this is Eve Rocio Ybarra. Spain hoping to Ghana a penalty
:43:07. > :43:08.corner out of that attacking situation, but it is Great Britain's
:43:09. > :43:24.possession. Cullen, off the Spanish stick and
:43:25. > :43:27.out of play. Now, there is Sophie Bray. Had an electrifying first
:43:28. > :43:39.half. Alex Danson, what an escape from
:43:40. > :44:05.Danson. Sophie Bray was forward, the ball
:44:06. > :44:11.was aimed for her, got to the Spanish stick first.
:44:12. > :44:21.Great Britain slowly building something. A bit of a slow burner,
:44:22. > :44:25.this attack. I think the disappointing thing so far is they
:44:26. > :44:30.haven't that early won a penalty corner or had a shot on Lopez's
:44:31. > :44:35.goal. Georgie Twigg. Picked up by Lily Owsley. Pals Lee with a
:44:36. > :44:41.backhand, Miss Kuyt first time. Eventually threads it forward, but
:44:42. > :44:44.it is picked up by Spain, and they can get some pace up here. --
:44:45. > :44:58.miscued first time. Lola Riera, all the way across the
:44:59. > :45:04.field, nine minutes left in the match, 3-0 to Great Britain, the way
:45:05. > :45:12.things stand, Great Britain will face New Zealand in the semifinal.
:45:13. > :45:15.Lola Riera in a little bit of space on the left, single-handed skills,
:45:16. > :45:31.taking her all the way to the corner. Great Britain's ball. Hollie
:45:32. > :45:35.Webb. Just started to rain. That was unexpected, but it might put the
:45:36. > :45:37.forest fire out at least, which is still raging behind us on the
:45:38. > :46:01.hillside next to the BMX Centre. Ball bouncing into the circle. Spain
:46:02. > :46:06.hoping that the umpire would point to the goal and signal a penalty
:46:07. > :46:15.corner but it is a free hit outside of the circle. Good work, still
:46:16. > :46:22.Spain press forward and they have scored, that I is a fantastic goal
:46:23. > :46:31.by Georgina Oliva. Brilliant piece of individual skill, Great Britain
:46:32. > :46:36.3-1. She is the danger player for Spain, Georgina Oliva. She is a bit
:46:37. > :46:45.like Laura Unsworth. Fantastic skills, beats Lynch -- beats Maddie
:46:46. > :46:46.Hinch. Possible lifeline for Spain, definitely disappointing from the
:46:47. > :47:02.perspective of Great Britain. So, Spain have a lifeline. Seven and
:47:03. > :47:07.a half minutes left in the match. They clawed one back through
:47:08. > :47:11.Georgina Oliva and Great Britain immediately on the counter and
:47:12. > :47:18.Hannah Macleod gets it up to the edge, close to the edge of the
:47:19. > :47:23.circle and plays it back to Gisele Ansley. Hollie Webb are getting
:47:24. > :47:30.involved. She comes through with the ball, well played, Nichola White
:47:31. > :47:33.steps in to take up the attack and then Gisele Ansley sends it by the
:47:34. > :47:42.Spanish stick, but Spain looking to escape. There is a card here. It has
:47:43. > :47:49.been shown to Gisele Ansley. Gisele Ansley with a two minute suspension.
:47:50. > :47:57.Something we saw in the USA game, it GB lost in the fourth quarter but an
:47:58. > :48:04.academic did not cost them. For the next couple of minutes, Spain will
:48:05. > :48:06.have the advantage, numerically, 11 versus ten until Gisele and the's
:48:07. > :48:24.suspension is complete. -- Giselle Ansley powers-macro.
:48:25. > :48:29.Concerned about the goal being conceded and Spain are stealing it
:48:30. > :48:36.in midfield and pressing down towards the British goal yet again.
:48:37. > :48:40.I think the Spanish, they have not given up the game, it is one of
:48:41. > :48:45.those, where there is a will, there is a way, this is the Olympics
:48:46. > :48:50.quarterfinal, if they lose, they will be out of the competition.
:48:51. > :48:56.Sends it across. In several games in the tournament, we have seen matches
:48:57. > :49:03.rescued in the last few minutes of the contest. Last I was a prime
:49:04. > :49:09.example, New Zealand were 2-0 up against the Germans and Germany
:49:10. > :49:16.managed to score a two goals in the last 47 seconds. Everyone says you
:49:17. > :49:23.never write off the Germans but it goes to show you have to play until
:49:24. > :49:26.the final whistle. And there are just over five minutes or until the
:49:27. > :49:33.final whistle as Spain press forward once again. The suspension for a
:49:34. > :49:36.Giselle Ansley is almost over and Great Britain will soon be back to
:49:37. > :49:48.full strength but they have to defend first. Still Spain's ball.
:49:49. > :49:58.Georgie Twigg off the field at the moment. In it comes. Nice take.
:49:59. > :50:08.Susannah Townsend has spotted Sophie Bray in acres of space on the left.
:50:09. > :50:13.Sophie Bray came onto the pitch as the Green card for a Giselle Ansley
:50:14. > :50:22.was taken up. Otherwise Susannah Townsend was pretty much on her own.
:50:23. > :50:34.Spain looking lively, she is battling with Hannah Macleod. Shona
:50:35. > :50:39.McCallin. Four minutes to play and you sense that one more goal from
:50:40. > :50:52.Great Britain would put this out of reach, is still a live fixture at
:50:53. > :51:00.the moment. Good interception from Berta Bonastre. There will be a
:51:01. > :51:03.penalty corner here. Helen Richardson-Walsh is asking for the
:51:04. > :51:10.referral and it has been given because she did not back off the
:51:11. > :51:22.five metres. Can you hear me? Yes. I called it out. Five metres. The free
:51:23. > :51:33.head is taken, I normally count the steps, one, two, three... Four and a
:51:34. > :51:37.half. There you go. It is the worst possible outcome for Great Britain.
:51:38. > :51:42.I think they knew that would happen and they will have to pad out now
:51:43. > :51:44.and have facemasks on to defend the penalty corner, the second for Spain
:51:45. > :51:58.of this quarterfinal. So, Spain and get in their
:51:59. > :52:07.formation. Discussions are still going on. Georgina Oliva on the
:52:08. > :52:13.right-hand side, that is Lola Riera on the left, she is there a drag
:52:14. > :52:17.flick specialist. Lola Riera or Georgina Oliva will be the target.
:52:18. > :52:25.There is the injection, the drag flick. Cleared. Spain to press
:52:26. > :52:30.forward once again. Another penalty corner given. They have lost the
:52:31. > :52:36.referral so there is no point surrounding the umpire. They have
:52:37. > :52:38.lost the referral. 13 macro is telling her team to get on with the
:52:39. > :52:58.game. -- Kate Richardson-Walsh. It is the
:52:59. > :53:02.correct decision. It is deemed dangerous for Maddie Hinch off the
:53:03. > :53:09.stick of Crista Cullen. An opportunity for Spain to get within
:53:10. > :53:17.one. Spain moving purposefully. Behind. Another penalty corner.
:53:18. > :53:21.Crista Cullen running out number one, it came off Hurford, she is
:53:22. > :53:26.absolutely brilliant, she runs straight down the line, puts stick
:53:27. > :53:32.on the floor and is happy for the ball to hit her body. She comes out
:53:33. > :53:39.to try and cover one half of the goal and Maddie Hinch covers the
:53:40. > :53:47.other. Cristina Guinea might have a chance. They have shovelled it
:53:48. > :53:51.around. She did not get a chance. Lola Riera might look for a backhand
:53:52. > :54:00.shot. British defenders still wearing their pads. So that moment
:54:01. > :54:05.of danger has been averted with three minutes left in the match.
:54:06. > :54:11.Great Britain still lead the way by a 3-1 and as the ball bounces
:54:12. > :54:22.dangerously in front of Maddie Hinch, it is booted clear. Spain are
:54:23. > :54:27.calling for the referral. The Spanish captain is looking for a GB
:54:28. > :54:38.foot in the circle. I will take a look. It is not there. Does not look
:54:39. > :54:43.like it is there, it looks like the stick from Crista Cullen. The only
:54:44. > :54:48.food on the ball is Maddie Hinch and that is legal. I think she thinks
:54:49. > :54:53.the ball has hit the third of Crista Cullen. From the replay, it looks
:54:54. > :55:01.like it hit the stick. The players are watching on the big screen.
:55:02. > :55:08.There is no foot. They lose the referral, Spain. Free head out and
:55:09. > :55:14.you have lost your referral. Spain took the gamble and it backfired, no
:55:15. > :55:20.penalty corner, they have lost their video referral option and there are
:55:21. > :55:27.three minutes left on the clock. Great Britain lead 3-1, here is
:55:28. > :55:34.Sophie Bray. She will be in no rush to pass this ball. Perhaps she put
:55:35. > :55:39.it out of play. From a British perspective. Spain will come again.
:55:40. > :55:47.From midfield. Georgie Twigg getting in the way. Ball driven in, across
:55:48. > :56:11.the floor. And behind. Crista Cullen, to Alex Danson on the
:56:12. > :56:18.right flank. Crista Cullen comes forward again and the aerial ball is
:56:19. > :56:23.aimed for Alex Danson who gets the touch. Keeps it in play and will
:56:24. > :56:30.hold it up and allow the seconds to tick by. Inside the last two minutes
:56:31. > :56:37.of the match. Great Britain under two minutes away from an Olympic
:56:38. > :56:45.semifinal against New Zealand. Alex Danson is not going anywhere at the
:56:46. > :56:49.moment. It looked like it had been a proverbial game of two hearts, GB
:56:50. > :56:53.were sensational in the first half and Spain have got themselves back
:56:54. > :56:57.into it but I do not feel that Great Britain have performed to the same
:56:58. > :57:02.level in the second half and that will probably be a disappointment to
:57:03. > :57:06.the coaching team. The positive is it is job done and they are into
:57:07. > :57:16.another Olympic semifinal. They now have two opportunities to win
:57:17. > :57:22.themselves a medal. Last 60 seconds of the match. Remember what Mel was
:57:23. > :57:26.saying about Germany scoring twice within 47 seconds yesterday, Great
:57:27. > :57:28.Britain will need to carry on playing and Sam Quek has the ball on
:57:29. > :57:46.the left. Picked up by Berta Bonastre who
:57:47. > :57:51.tries to generate some forward momentum for a Spain but the clock
:57:52. > :58:01.is against them now. And the touch on the right from Rocio Ybarra was
:58:02. > :58:08.bad. The Great Britain coach looking from the stands, the British team
:58:09. > :58:15.beginning to celebrate on the bench. They are heading for the Olympic
:58:16. > :58:21.semifinal. There is the full-time Guta. Great Britain will go to the
:58:22. > :58:26.Olympic semifinal and they will face New Zealand, a commanding first half
:58:27. > :58:32.said Britain app with goals from Georgie Twigg, Helen Richardson
:58:33. > :58:38.Walsh and Lily Owsley, Spain got one back through Georgina Oliva in the
:58:39. > :58:43.second half, but Spain's Olympics is over, a 3-1 win for Great Britain,
:58:44. > :58:51.the next stop, the semifinal against New Zealand. CLARE BALDING: That
:58:52. > :58:55.makes it six from six from the great British women, one more quarterfinal
:58:56. > :59:00.to come but as Matt mentioned, New Zealand sprung and upset by beating
:59:01. > :59:07.Australia 4-2 so the Black Sticks will be the opponents for Great
:59:08. > :59:11.Britain. GB won that match in London. Germany beat the USA while
:59:12. > :59:21.the Netherlands face Argentina in the other quarterfinal. Well, out to
:59:22. > :59:25.the park. It was really nice and dry in the Velodrome. Beforehand it was
:59:26. > :59:31.windy, when you were out first time and now the rain has again. If we
:59:32. > :59:34.were to do a really cheesy late, you could say that the rain is not
:59:35. > :59:39.dampening British parents, couldn't you?
:59:40. > :59:52.You could Dodge that went down well! We just want to show you this little
:59:53. > :59:59.graph of the medal count. This is after last night, Sunday night, and
:00:00. > :00:04.as you can see, grass at this time of night might be too difficult to
:00:05. > :00:11.understand, but the Rio line, we are already, Team GB, already ahead of
:00:12. > :00:16.where they were London 2012 and Beijing in 2008, and if you go
:00:17. > :00:21.across the graph, we actually had 38 medals come the end of Sunday, so
:00:22. > :00:25.over the next hour or so, we will see how much we can add to that
:00:26. > :00:32.total of 38. This is what we have got coming up.
:00:33. > :00:37.Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro were aiming to dance their way to the
:00:38. > :00:46.defence of their dressage title today. Did they hit the right notes?
:00:47. > :00:49.Find out later. There were medals on offer at the elliptic stadium where
:00:50. > :01:00.Burnley's Sophie Hitchon was aiming to Hammer her rivals.
:01:01. > :01:06.We are boxing in the rain with Britain's Muhammad Ali, plus we will
:01:07. > :01:15.see the heavyweight champion crowned. The British Men's Doubles
:01:16. > :01:18.pairing of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge were hoping to book their
:01:19. > :01:24.place in the semifinals, and we will see how they got on.
:01:25. > :01:31.And we will be looking back at events in the Velodrome after
:01:32. > :01:33.another dramatic day of action. Mark Cavendish was trying to win a first
:01:34. > :01:44.Olympic medal. Like with any Olympic Games, there
:01:45. > :01:46.is a lot to enjoy and celebrate, but unfortunately this evening, we have
:01:47. > :01:54.to start with some desperately sad news from here in Rio de Janeiro.
:01:55. > :01:57.And that is that the German canoe slalom coach Stephan Hednesford died
:01:58. > :02:02.earlier today from head injuries that he suffered in a car crash on
:02:03. > :02:08.Friday when he was making his way back from the Whitewater Stadium. He
:02:09. > :02:11.was a former world champion and 2004 Olympics or the medallist, and his
:02:12. > :02:19.family have released a statement saying we know his own Olympic
:02:20. > :02:22.thoughts live on in a lot of people. The German Olympic Committee
:02:23. > :02:27.president added, words cannot describe what we as the Olympic team
:02:28. > :02:30.feel after this terrible loss. You will see that tomorrow all the
:02:31. > :02:37.German flags at all the Olympic venues will fly at half-mast.
:02:38. > :02:49.In fact, dressage is a sport that traditionally Germany have been good
:02:50. > :02:52.at, and they won the medal ahead of Great Britain over the weekend, and
:02:53. > :02:56.Charlotte Dujardin was trying to defend her title on the wonderful
:02:57. > :02:57.Valegro, for whom this would be a fine a major international
:02:58. > :03:20.competition. Britain had never won a dressage
:03:21. > :03:28.medal going into London 2012, but Charlotte Dujardin and her
:03:29. > :03:32.team-mates made history. Charlotte Dujardin has eyes to the cake in
:03:33. > :03:38.style, and Britain has got another gold!
:03:39. > :03:41.Charlotte became Britain's first Olympic champion in the individual
:03:42. > :03:47.dressage, and won a second gold as part of the team event. Two
:03:48. > :03:57.equestrian gold medals in two days. Four years later in Rio, Spencer
:03:58. > :04:00.Wilton, and the team won Silver in the team event, and all eyes have
:04:01. > :04:08.been a Charlotte to take hold in the individual event. Three Brits were
:04:09. > :04:12.in the running, first up Fiona Bigwood. Carl Hester briefly led the
:04:13. > :04:15.competition, but went on to finish seventh. At next, Charlotte Dujardin
:04:16. > :04:25.and Valegro. The great Valegro. Charlotte
:04:26. > :04:29.Dujardin, the reigning Olympic champion.
:04:30. > :04:34.Can they repeat their London triumph? Charlotte Dujardin, the
:04:35. > :04:46.great Valegro. Remind you that this is another Tom
:04:47. > :04:52.Holland composition especially designed for Rio. He really has
:04:53. > :05:02.endeavoured to put the Carnival spirit into this music of
:05:03. > :07:22.Charlotte's. Here is the real test now. Extended trot.
:07:23. > :07:38.Extended on the centreline and straight into pirouette.
:07:39. > :07:45.They have been unbeaten in their last 17 outings. Are they going to
:07:46. > :08:32.make it 18 outings? ? It is a brand-new floor plan,
:08:33. > :08:33.remember, prepared for this competition, prepared to try and
:08:34. > :08:48.retain that Olympic title. Coming towards the end, and at the
:08:49. > :09:07.moment, pretty incident free, dare I say.
:09:08. > :09:13.You are braver than me, I wasn't going to make any comment like that!
:09:14. > :09:53.And again, incredible extended trot. CHEERING
:09:54. > :09:59.14 years old now, Valegro, his owners have been the stars of the
:10:00. > :10:04.sport worldwide now, since London 2012, Valegro and Charlotte
:10:05. > :10:17.93.928! I had a tear in AI in London where it all happened, and I have
:10:18. > :10:25.another one now. I don't think there has been better dressage at an
:10:26. > :10:26.Olympic Games ever. Charlotte Dujardin with the great Valegro has
:10:27. > :10:37.done it. Valegro is safely in his stable, but
:10:38. > :10:39.I have with Miller dressage team the double-Olympic champion Charlotte
:10:40. > :10:46.Dujardin. Fiona Bigwood, Spencer Wilton, Carl Hester and Charlotte.
:10:47. > :10:50.That is the first time you have had a chance to watch it back. You must
:10:51. > :10:54.be chuffed with the way he performed? I feel very emotional
:10:55. > :10:59.watching it back, it was emotional at the time, but seeing that again,
:11:00. > :11:02.it has been incredible. As soon as you got into the arena, it was hot
:11:03. > :11:10.today. Did you know from your first halt that he was on it? I was really
:11:11. > :11:14.nervous for the first time in attending box, I did a 40 minute
:11:15. > :11:17.warm up inside in the air-conditioning, we were lucky to
:11:18. > :11:22.have that, and then I went down to the ten minute box, and I was really
:11:23. > :11:28.nervous, and I said to call, I feel really nervous, and then I went
:11:29. > :11:32.down... What did he say back? He said you could do it, you will be
:11:33. > :11:37.fine, no pressure, just go and enjoy it for yourself, no team, and that
:11:38. > :11:43.is what I thought. I have to go in and enjoy it, and I just went around
:11:44. > :11:49.the outside, and then he just let up, he felt amazing, and it was like
:11:50. > :11:53.he reassured me, like he held my hand, he said it was OK, and that
:11:54. > :11:58.was the feeling, and from there on, it was a magical ride. He is such a
:11:59. > :12:04.showman, he loved the big occasion, it seems. Absolutely, he isn't just
:12:05. > :12:08.a talented horse, he is so brave. He goes into the arena and tries his
:12:09. > :12:12.hardest, and he never wants to make a mistake. I think there were
:12:13. > :12:16.worries that the travel, the journey over here would all him somehow, or
:12:17. > :12:21.the heat would get to him, but it didn't look like it. He has been
:12:22. > :12:24.fantastic all week, every performance he has done, he has felt
:12:25. > :12:31.amazing, and I can't ask anything more from him. He is an absolutely
:12:32. > :12:35.incredible horse. I know that if you could take him on the podium with
:12:36. > :12:43.you, you would. But why were you so emotional? I think for me, going to
:12:44. > :12:47.London, that was my first Olympics, we had no expectation for the team,
:12:48. > :12:49.we had expectation for the team, but individually there was no
:12:50. > :12:55.expectation, but coming here to defend my title, I had a lot more
:12:56. > :13:02.pressure and expectations, and there is on the cards that he will maybe
:13:03. > :13:07.be retiring, so I think the me thinking that that could be the last
:13:08. > :13:10.time I go in that arena and perform was a really emotional feeling,
:13:11. > :13:16.because to end like that when he is giving his all couldn't have been
:13:17. > :13:24.any better. I am glad we are with Hardy Horsey people, they don't
:13:25. > :13:28.notice the rain! That was the first time today I have seen dressage live
:13:29. > :13:31.in person, I saw London 2012 on the TV, and when you watch it for the
:13:32. > :13:36.first time, you notice the control and the poor use, and then you come
:13:37. > :13:46.up with questions that aren't very Horsey, suppose. -- control and
:13:47. > :13:51.poise. Do the horses respond to the music, or simply to what you are
:13:52. > :13:55.doing? They should be listening to us and what we're doing, but if you
:13:56. > :13:58.get some upbeat music going, they do enjoy it, and the atmosphere music
:13:59. > :14:05.creates can affect them, but they should be listening to us. But they
:14:06. > :14:08.won't have the memory capacity, I don't know of research has been
:14:09. > :14:11.done, to go along to the music and remember bits of the music, but they
:14:12. > :14:17.might remember routines they have done before? Yes, the Grand Prix
:14:18. > :14:20.test we do all the time, the horses are able to anticipate what is
:14:21. > :14:24.coming next with that particular test, and if you do the music
:14:25. > :14:30.routine enough times, they will begin to anticipate. How long was
:14:31. > :14:35.your routine in practice, in training? How many months, or is it
:14:36. > :14:40.years, that you put in? It is years, we start with them at four, slowly
:14:41. > :14:44.build them up, and it takes years and years to get them to the level
:14:45. > :14:49.they are at now. I apologise to people who love horses if these are
:14:50. > :14:53.all daft questions. I think they are great questions, and I was just
:14:54. > :15:01.telling call, five dressage routines involved, including your response
:15:02. > :15:08.Nip Tuck, and you had big British supported Diadora. Yes, and it has
:15:09. > :15:12.been a special ride, thanks mostly to Valegro and the gold medal, but
:15:13. > :15:16.by giving it a different name, we call it dressage, which means
:15:17. > :15:19.training, but it has been called dancing horses since London, which
:15:20. > :15:24.is sweet, but it sounds like it is easy, which it doesn't tell the
:15:25. > :15:27.story of what goes into it, but it is a great way of describing it,
:15:28. > :15:30.because that is what the music looks like, and people love to come and
:15:31. > :15:35.watch it, and we are happy they turned out. I think they understand
:15:36. > :15:37.it when it is to music, it rings it alive rather than just watching
:15:38. > :15:41.horse going round and round for what seems like six minutes not doing a
:15:42. > :15:45.lot, but it is doing incredible things with its body, they are the
:15:46. > :15:50.athletes of the horse world. Valegro makes these routines so easy, but it
:15:51. > :15:54.doesn't actually seem like he is doing anything, but he is, and it is
:15:55. > :15:58.supposed to look like that, Charlotte is supposed to look like
:15:59. > :16:01.she's just steering, I know she's doing a lot more, and Valegro is a
:16:02. > :16:06.supreme athlete because he has these amazing abilities to collect himself
:16:07. > :16:13.and extend himself, which are not met very many horses have.
:16:14. > :16:21.As if winning a second individual gold medal was not enough, your
:16:22. > :16:27.boyfriend wanted to make certain didn't he, that you were going to
:16:28. > :16:33.marry him soon? He has made it public now that I have to marry him.
:16:34. > :16:38.It has been on the cards after London, that we were going to get
:16:39. > :16:44.married and we have not had the time. Now, it will be definitely
:16:45. > :16:52.done next year. He was nowhere to be seen after he put it out on
:16:53. > :16:57.television. He held up big sign. Congratulations. We are sorry. Find
:16:58. > :17:04.some dried to celebrate your success. We will move onto boxing
:17:05. > :17:11.because the member who took part today was Muhammad Ali, a British
:17:12. > :17:18.boxer taking part in the Olympics, 56 years after the great Muhammad
:17:19. > :17:27.Ali won his Olympic title in Rome, he was one of five British boxers
:17:28. > :17:34.who are now left, he has coached by the coach who coached army camp. The
:17:35. > :17:41.first round was very untidy and he's struggled against his opponent. His
:17:42. > :17:48.frustration -- he frustrated the British contender despite warnings
:17:49. > :17:57.from the referee. He was awarded the first round by the judges. And then
:17:58. > :18:06.Ali continued to struggle as he connected with some clever bursts,
:18:07. > :18:08.Ali had a mountain to climb. We will join it at the start of the third
:18:09. > :18:21.and final round. To begin, you perhaps Venezuelan
:18:22. > :18:35.team-mates indicate that he was not under any pressure and he would take
:18:36. > :18:40.the strategy that he would protect he needs to force a stoppage. It
:18:41. > :18:43.will be difficult to land a clean knockout punch on a boxer who goes
:18:44. > :19:09.back, he is holding his feet. Ali continually going in pursuit of
:19:10. > :19:15.his man. Frustrated, furling his brow in frustration, Muhammad Ali. I
:19:16. > :19:23.said it was going to be a scrappy affair. The referee continuously
:19:24. > :19:27.warns, especially Finol, keep your head up but he does not do anything
:19:28. > :19:36.else apart from Warren, but having said that, Finol, Muhammad Ali
:19:37. > :19:48.cannot find the quality shots, he is too close, a scrappy contest. How
:19:49. > :19:53.many times has he said that? It is untidy on the inside, Muhammad Ali
:19:54. > :19:58.turned to let his hands go. Good right hand from Ali but Finol landed
:19:59. > :20:04.a shot, that is why he raised his right glove. There will be no quit
:20:05. > :20:10.in Muhammad Ali, he will keep trying to find that finishing punch that he
:20:11. > :20:12.is facing a skilful operator in the form of Yoel Segundo Finol who is
:20:13. > :20:18.now skating around the perimeter of the boxing ring. He has been given
:20:19. > :20:23.the time and space, Finol, he is decent on the back foot, detecting
:20:24. > :20:30.that lead, holding the blindside of the referee, the referee cannot see
:20:31. > :20:37.that. 2014, to give you the talent that Ali possesses, world youth
:20:38. > :20:43.silver medallist two years ago. Finol finds a burst of punches, many
:20:44. > :20:47.of them were blocked, effective, back comes Muhammad Ali, into the
:20:48. > :20:53.fray once again. He needs to land that knockout punch now. Good
:20:54. > :21:00.movement from Finol on the ropes. Side to side, inviting his opponents
:21:01. > :21:05.to come forward, Ali cannot find the power shots he needs. The referee
:21:06. > :21:15.says keep your head up, keep the punches up. So, the conclusion of
:21:16. > :21:20.this 52 kilograms flyweight contest and given the state of the scorecard
:21:21. > :21:23.is going into the third and final round, one suspects it is this man
:21:24. > :21:28.going through to the quarterfinal stage at the expense of Muhammad
:21:29. > :21:42.Ali. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision... In
:21:43. > :21:49.the blue corner... Yoel Segundo Finol! So, Yoel Segundo Finol, the
:21:50. > :21:52.12th ranked boxer in the world, the reigning continental champion of the
:21:53. > :21:56.Americas goes through to the quarterfinal stage of the 52
:21:57. > :22:01.kilograms flyweight tournament to the delight of his compatriots and
:22:02. > :22:12.team-mates in the stands. He is one win away from a place in -- on the
:22:13. > :22:16.medal podium in this competition. Welcome to Rio. Muhammad Ali
:22:17. > :22:20.unfortunately out as far as Team GB are concerned other was another big
:22:21. > :22:29.shock in the Olympic boxing today and that involved the Irish woman
:22:30. > :22:36.Katie Taylor in the lightweight can -- contest. She had 168 wins, nine
:22:37. > :22:39.losses going into today yet she was beaten by the contender from
:22:40. > :22:49.Finland. Katie Taylor is out of the Olympics. CLARE BALDING: You need to
:22:50. > :22:54.hold that umbrella. We are getting cosy. From the hard headers to the
:22:55. > :23:06.Power and precision of gymnastics, there were three gold medals on
:23:07. > :23:13.offer and here are the best bits. It is the turn of the current world
:23:14. > :23:22.champion. It is almost perfect making it look so easy. There is the
:23:23. > :23:31.dismount. Double twist, double backflip -- it is a massive score of
:23:32. > :23:39.16. He has to do the routine of his life. That is a fantastic start.
:23:40. > :23:50.Great show of strength. Needs to make their landing count. Arthur
:23:51. > :23:58.Zanetti take the bronze medal for Brazil. Let us see if he can make it
:23:59. > :24:08.one to three under half that was very clean. 30 six, four times world
:24:09. > :24:23.champion. He needs to come to -- control the half turned -- Marian
:24:24. > :24:33.Dragulescu. Can he put himself into the lead? Full twist. That was a
:24:34. > :24:43.great landing for the most complex event you will ever see. If he hits
:24:44. > :24:50.this, it will be very impressive. This is the big vault, the full
:24:51. > :24:58.twist, back out. Step forwards, unbelievable vault. Can Marian
:24:59. > :25:14.Dragulescu hang on. He has gone into second. He wears! He is aiming for
:25:15. > :25:25.five Olympic gold medals. -- he wins. Such a powerful gymnast.
:25:26. > :25:38.She is in the lead at the moment. But, for how long? Sanne Wevers for
:25:39. > :25:43.a chance for an Olympic medal. Super, the combination is beautiful.
:25:44. > :25:51.That was a big challenge. She goes well ahead of Biles. The
:25:52. > :25:56.16-year-old, Lauren Hernandez. She looked edgy ahead of that second
:25:57. > :26:03.labour. Focus, concentrate, double pike, very good ending, that will be
:26:04. > :26:11.tight. -- landing. It is not quite enough. Sanne Wevers is gold medal,
:26:12. > :26:19.Lauren Hernandez takes the silver medal and Biles takes the bronze.
