:00:49. > :00:56.Good evening. I know Carnival time takes some beating here in Rio de

:00:57. > :01:01.Janeiro, but it was a wild weekend if you were a supporter of British

:01:02. > :01:08.sport. Eight gold medals, five of them coming yesterday on sensational

:01:09. > :01:12.Sunday at Britain's best awayday in Olympic history, and the medals

:01:13. > :01:18.continue to come. There has been a 16 year in Rio, and it has come from

:01:19. > :01:23.Charlotte Dujardin in dressage. But we are going straightaway to the

:01:24. > :01:26.place where Max Whitlock won two gold medals in a couple of hours

:01:27. > :01:32.yesterday. We have three more apparatus finals to enjoy, first of

:01:33. > :01:37.all it the men 's rings, and Brazil expects, this really is a huge

:01:38. > :01:40.moment for the home nation. Arthur Zanetti, the reigning champion on

:01:41. > :01:44.this piece of apparatus, he has the hopes of a nation on his very broad

:01:45. > :01:49.and a very strong shoulders. Matt Baker, take it away.

:01:50. > :01:57.Thank you, Hazel. Zanetti has just left the arena, it is important for

:01:58. > :02:01.these gymnasts to be fully warmed up before starting on the rings, but

:02:02. > :02:13.the gymnast who is just chalking up ready to go, you Hao, a massive 15.8

:02:14. > :02:26.scorer last year, so you are looking really for those 515s that are going

:02:27. > :02:30.to be meddling. -- medaling. This will be a high-class final, and

:02:31. > :02:33.looking for my new deductions here. Let's just talk our viewers through

:02:34. > :02:40.what makes the perfect rings routine, Dan. You need to have a lot

:02:41. > :02:45.of strength elements, you need to hold for a minimum of two seconds,

:02:46. > :02:49.any less and there will be big deductions, you might not even have

:02:50. > :02:54.the element counted. Moving from one element to another is also big

:02:55. > :03:00.points for the start value. And sticking the dismount, and when you

:03:01. > :03:03.are swinging, you are not allowed to have the rings moving, otherwise

:03:04. > :03:08.there are more deductions. Timing is key. If you start to see the rings

:03:09. > :03:12.swing, the gymnast will drop their body as soon as the rings drop into

:03:13. > :03:17.the middle of the frame, and timing is everything here, so these are the

:03:18. > :03:20.top eight gymnasts, the highest scores from qualification, they

:03:21. > :03:23.really are the specialists. It's time for the strongman event, the

:03:24. > :03:38.rings Olympic final. And You Hao in qualification posted

:03:39. > :03:43.the top difficulty. You can see he starts with a fantastic strength

:03:44. > :03:50.element, the rings are completely still, and there are another. We

:03:51. > :03:54.expect to see another added an? Yes, we will, and he is making sure he is

:03:55. > :04:02.holding all of these for the exact amount of time. Some even maybe a

:04:03. > :04:05.little longer just to make sure. There he is showing he can swing as

:04:06. > :04:12.well as holding the strength elements.

:04:13. > :04:17.In the crucifix, your shoulders have to be exactly flat to make sure you

:04:18. > :04:37.get it counted. Slight bent arms in the forward

:04:38. > :04:41.swing. Big dismount. And didn't make the landing. This is the point where

:04:42. > :04:44.you have gone through the full routine, and your body is screaming

:04:45. > :04:49.at you to generate the force to get up into those complicated dismounts

:04:50. > :04:54.and land them is a very big ask, especially when you are going all

:04:55. > :04:57.out the difficulty. Well, the dismount is often what sets them

:04:58. > :05:03.apart, his strength stuff is fantastic. He has to hold the body

:05:04. > :05:06.as straight as possible, and he really does manage that. The

:05:07. > :05:12.discipline on the rings is important. You turn them out. Yes,

:05:13. > :05:15.you have to turn them out just to show that the rings are away from

:05:16. > :05:20.your shoulders and away from your body, see you are not cheating in

:05:21. > :05:24.any way. That looked like he was maybe slightly tired before the end,

:05:25. > :05:28.he struggled up to the handstand, and the dismount was under rotated.

:05:29. > :05:33.It is a browsing because you can see he is a very strong guy, but the

:05:34. > :05:38.dismount is the big thing. That 0.3 deduction for the step is probably

:05:39. > :05:42.bigger than any deduction he had in the routine. It is, and especially

:05:43. > :05:47.in this final, there are really strong guys, and it will be about

:05:48. > :05:52.who has the better dismount who will win this. He has left the door open

:05:53. > :05:58.a little bit for the other competitors. Had he really been

:05:59. > :06:04.perfect with the seven start value, he might have posted a score they

:06:05. > :06:09.couldn't catch. You Hao's score is in, a difficulty of seven and an

:06:10. > :06:17.execution score of 8.4, so add those together and you get 15.4. An

:06:18. > :06:20.anxious wait, then, the You Hao. That is the benchmark that has been

:06:21. > :06:28.set, and now it is the turn of the current world champion, LS Lowry is

:06:29. > :06:35.Petronius, second highest in qualifying. Just look at this for a

:06:36. > :06:40.body type, very light bottom half. -- Eleftherios Petrounias. He has a

:06:41. > :06:43.light bottom half and massive shoulders and torso. He was looking

:06:44. > :06:49.great in warm up just a few moments ago. European champion, world

:06:50. > :06:57.champion. Can he add Olympic champion? It has been a long time

:06:58. > :07:02.since he qualified on that first day of competition of the Olympics. 20

:07:03. > :07:10.of time to recover his strength, and you can see there, massive control.

:07:11. > :07:14.You can see when he is doing the strength elements, he opened his

:07:15. > :07:19.hands to show there is no false grip, which is where you can also

:07:20. > :07:30.have deductions, 0.1, so he is trying to save every single

:07:31. > :07:41.. Almost making it look easy. Making sure the timing is perfect. He is

:07:42. > :07:58.getting every element counted. And there's the dismount. Full

:07:59. > :08:03.twisting double back somersault. You were saying the dismount was the

:08:04. > :08:06.thing that usually sets the gymnast apart on rings, and that was an

:08:07. > :08:11.impressive one, although maybe a leg fault? A little leg fault, obviously

:08:12. > :08:16.a little easier because he did the double twist in the top position.

:08:17. > :08:19.You Hao did the double twist in the straight position, you rotate much

:08:20. > :08:24.slower when your body is long and when it is short, so he won't be

:08:25. > :08:29.given quite as many marks, but he certainly gave away a great deal

:08:30. > :08:39.less. He is really a rings specialist. I love watching him on

:08:40. > :08:43.rings. His position is perfect, and I enjoy seeing how easy he makes it

:08:44. > :08:52.look, when that is so difficult. He is just so stylish. He really is.

:08:53. > :08:57.This is great, I think. He swings on straight arms, kills the top of the

:08:58. > :09:00.swing. He wasn't too bad on leg form, actually, the knees were

:09:01. > :09:07.together, and you could see him fight for that stuck landing. He is

:09:08. > :09:14.obviously working it, you can tell, can't you? He used to have quite the

:09:15. > :09:21.deductions on the landing, and it is only a little difference in start

:09:22. > :09:25.value, so he has opted to double in the top position so that he can get

:09:26. > :09:30.the landing. You Hao has a difficulty score of seven, gymnasts

:09:31. > :09:34.get extra marks were doing harder routines, you add the difficulty to

:09:35. > :09:43.the execution to get the total, and it is a massive score. It is a

:09:44. > :09:47.massive score of 16! 6.8 in a difficulty, 9.2 in the execution,

:09:48. > :09:52.and that is the highest score we have seen on rings here in E O.

:09:53. > :09:57.Absolutely, and a massive 9.2 in execution, that means the judges

:09:58. > :10:01.only took 0.8 of that routine, it was as close to perfect as we have

:10:02. > :10:09.seen. One of the youngest gymnasts now, this is Dennis Goossens, 22

:10:10. > :10:16.years old. Made the final at the Europeans earlier this year. What

:10:17. > :10:26.company he is in here. It is a huge final. As you would expect of the

:10:27. > :10:31.Olympic Games. He is only young at 22, so could be gaining experience

:10:32. > :10:33.by being in this final. He will be hoping to put in a nice big score to

:10:34. > :11:01.try and challenge for the medals. Are showing his swing to handstand,

:11:02. > :11:09.slightly struggling there. Minor deduction. Here is the dismount. It

:11:10. > :11:16.isn't going to be as high a start value as the other guys, but it was

:11:17. > :11:25.fairly clean. 15.4 is the score that he is looking for to go ahead of You

:11:26. > :11:30.Hao. A little bit of a different style in 19 clue do it quite a bit

:11:31. > :11:35.more swing. It is in the last four, eight years, the last cycles, that

:11:36. > :11:39.the gymnasts include these multiple somersaults as well as the strength

:11:40. > :11:44.elements, isn't it, Dan? Yes, and to be the best on rings, you have to be

:11:45. > :11:50.really strong and have good swinging elements, and that shows you are the

:11:51. > :11:54.best on rings. He included quite a bit more swinging elements, and that

:11:55. > :11:58.was the full twisting double straight, a little bit pike Don

:11:59. > :12:01.landing, a step to the side, but as a young gymnast in his first Olympic

:12:02. > :12:18.Games, a very good effort. Zanetti has now come into the arena.

:12:19. > :12:32.Goossens score is now in, 14 point 933. Now, the next gymnast in this

:12:33. > :12:37.men's rings Olympics final is Denis Ablyazin, he is capable of a very

:12:38. > :12:44.big score here. In the team final for Russia which help them achieve a

:12:45. > :12:49.silver medal, he got 15.7. European champion two years ago. And one of

:12:50. > :12:56.the Russian team that have really performed well here at these

:12:57. > :13:05.championships. Super-strength elements. Sets up the swimming

:13:06. > :13:10.section, Dan. He does, and back into the strength position. So hard to

:13:11. > :13:13.control that make sure he doesn't move all. A great crucifix with open

:13:14. > :13:39.wrists, and again. Now the big dismount coming up.

:13:40. > :13:46.Double twisting double straight to add colour to that difficulty score.

:13:47. > :13:52.I think that will be a good score. He dropped for that at exactly the

:13:53. > :13:55.right time. He is a very nice technician, very good, and the fact

:13:56. > :13:59.that the step on landing was a step back is better than a step forward.

:14:00. > :14:06.The step forward means you didn't quite have enough height and

:14:07. > :14:13.rotation, so the judges double deduct. He stepped back because he

:14:14. > :14:20.almost had to much rotation. He always looks to me like he performs

:14:21. > :14:30.very nicely within his capabilities. There is the big dismount. Slight

:14:31. > :14:38.step back. Just 0.1 when they take the step and then bring the foot

:14:39. > :14:57.back in to join. Petronius leads with a score of 16, Tabak -- You Hao

:14:58. > :15:05.and Goossens following. The step might not give him quite as higher

:15:06. > :15:16.score as Petronius. Will he beat You Hao? I think so.

:15:17. > :15:30.He has gone ahead of You Hao, so Denis Ablyazin in second at the

:15:31. > :15:37.moment with a score of 15.7, 16.8 the difficulty, 8.9 is execution.

:15:38. > :15:48.That score of 16 will be there for a while. That is a big ask for Arthur

:15:49. > :15:51.Zanetti to beat. The Brazilian gymnast, a lot of expectation on his

:15:52. > :15:55.shoulders. He has been a very big part of the Rio will and --

:15:56. > :16:10.Olympics. Well, a gymnast that will challenge

:16:11. > :16:17.Petrounias with the score of 16 is Yang Liu, the youngest gymnast in

:16:18. > :16:28.this final. He was world champion two years ago and has posted a score

:16:29. > :16:31.of 15.9 whilst here in Brazil. That is amazing to have been world

:16:32. > :16:38.champion at such a young age on such a piece of apparatus that needs of

:16:39. > :16:44.such strength and maturity. But he is enormously suited to this

:16:45. > :16:47.apparatus. His positions are almost perfect and I think he can

:16:48. > :16:53.definitely challenge for that first spot. That is the best inverted

:16:54. > :16:55.crucifix I have seen. He gets completely flat, which is what the

:16:56. > :17:10.judges are looking for. Perfectly flat, almost like he is

:17:11. > :17:19.laying on the floor. This is a long routine, this. It is huge style

:17:20. > :17:25.value. Coming up to the dismount. He will be deducted for that.

:17:26. > :17:34.A big dismount, it is not going to be enough for a top place. What a

:17:35. > :17:38.shame, what a shame for Yang Liu. I mean, it was going incredibly well,

:17:39. > :17:42.gets three quarters of the way through the routine. I don't know if

:17:43. > :17:46.it was just him getting tired or whatever but it dawned on me that it

:17:47. > :17:50.seemed to be going on for ever. It was as soon as you said this is an

:17:51. > :17:58.awfully long routine, it was as if he heard you and then stalled on the

:17:59. > :18:00.next two elements. That is the secret of constructing routines. You

:18:01. > :18:04.need your ten most difficult elements and if you can just do ten

:18:05. > :18:09.elements, you don't give the judges too much room to deduct. If you do a

:18:10. > :18:14.really long routine with 15 elements in, then you will get more tired and

:18:15. > :18:19.there is lots more for them to deduct. That was the stall, he has

:18:20. > :18:23.to block out into an absolute handstand and he struggled with it.

:18:24. > :18:32.His body language here said it all. Disappointed with himself. So

:18:33. > :18:37.Petrounias no doubt will continue to lead this men's final with a score

:18:38. > :18:51.of 16. Abliazin and with 15 points seven. -- with 15.7. I think with

:18:52. > :18:56.the stall for the handstand and the step backwards, I think the

:18:57. > :19:06.deductions were greater. It is the execution score we have seen from

:19:07. > :19:14.nine down to eight. There will be three gymnasts left to go after Yang

:19:15. > :19:25.Liu gets his score. Very close indeed, 15.6. 6.9 on a difficulty.

:19:26. > :19:35.For now, he is incurred, but for how long? Danny Pinheiro Rodrigues,

:19:36. > :19:42.actually a reserve for this rings final, in four and the SAE, who

:19:43. > :19:48.injured his leg on vault. -- in the side.

:19:49. > :19:59.The French team had a very varied competition, losing gymnasts to

:20:00. > :20:04.injury. But that is a super-strength element. It is and, again, that's

:20:05. > :20:05.his own move and he does it so well. There is no one else in the world

:20:06. > :20:22.who can do it quite so well as him. Really taken his chance, put into

:20:23. > :20:30.this final act of being the reserve, making sure he is not giving

:20:31. > :20:39.anything away. Slight loss of form in handstand. Big wind up into the

:20:40. > :20:46.dismount. Good effort. Great effort, I think. He took his chance, to

:20:47. > :20:53.start with, he was the first reserve and he has been put in and he just

:20:54. > :21:01.wanted to give it his all and show the world he can do it in this file.

:21:02. > :21:08.Nice style, a little bit taller than some of the other gymnasts. So this,

:21:09. > :21:11.when we say his own move, the first person to have performed it, you

:21:12. > :21:16.have do submitted to the International committee and as long

:21:17. > :21:20.as you perform it in competition in a world championship or the Olympics

:21:21. > :21:27.successfully, they will credit it and call it after you, so it is a

:21:28. > :21:37.Rodrigues. The step on dismount, though. After all that effort, just

:21:38. > :21:50.to absorb the landing. Such a difficulty. He has been around for a

:21:51. > :21:57.while, 31 years old. His best finish in an Olympics brings final was

:21:58. > :22:03.fifth in Beijing. Abliazin pacing, as he will do, before going for his

:22:04. > :22:18.vault. Hugely powerful gymnast. The score is in and it is 15 Pinheiro

:22:19. > :22:22.Rodrigues. -- 15 .233. And we have another gymnast now who wasn't

:22:23. > :22:32.expecting to be in this final, second reserve, Igor Radivilov, a

:22:33. > :22:34.gymnast looking to make history on vault in a while, he's going to

:22:35. > :22:40.produce something that has never been seen in competition, triple

:22:41. > :22:45.front. But for now, he has to concentrate on rings.

:22:46. > :22:49.Best result on rings is seventh at the European Championships, that was

:22:50. > :23:23.two years ago. Radivilov, then, 23 years old, from

:23:24. > :23:30.Ukraine. Lovely top position, the planche has to be an absolutely

:23:31. > :23:36.straight position. That is how the difficulty rises. He loves showing

:23:37. > :23:38.off his swinging work. Double somersault into a Maltese. Then the

:23:39. > :23:59.crucifix. Now preparing himself for his

:24:00. > :24:05.dismount. Can he get this right? Winding up. Double double. Wow,

:24:06. > :24:12.dismounts do not come much better than that. He is delighted, you can

:24:13. > :24:16.see the relief there. When you said winding up, you could see that the

:24:17. > :24:22.next big swing really gave him the lift to be able to elevate the

:24:23. > :24:26.dismount at the time for the to us. He has come into this final and used

:24:27. > :24:32.every opportunity. He could be in with a chance here, Dan. He could,

:24:33. > :24:38.he needs 15 points six to get into the medals and I think it will be

:24:39. > :24:44.close. In the team final, who scored 15.566 the Ukraine. I think it will

:24:45. > :24:52.be close, I think that was a better routine. His difficulty was 6-point

:24:53. > :24:58.date, we have had a range of the top being seven, down to six points six.

:24:59. > :25:03.It is in the middle, but that was a really good swing. When you talk

:25:04. > :25:10.about style in the twisting and the Turk, knees were locked together,

:25:11. > :25:14.that was really clean. -- the tuck. What a moment this could be for

:25:15. > :25:26.Radivilov if he can see his name in the top three. It is 15.466. It is

:25:27. > :25:33.forth at the moment for Radivilov. Well, I am a little surprised at

:25:34. > :25:37.that. Yes, I thought it would be a couple higher. But we are a lot

:25:38. > :25:42.higher than the judges, the judges are level with the rings and you can

:25:43. > :25:46.see everything down there. I don't know if you can hear the chanting

:25:47. > :25:51.that is going around the Olympic Arena, it is for this man, Arthur

:25:52. > :25:56.Zanetti, the reigning Olympic champion from Brazil. But let me

:25:57. > :26:09.tell you, he has to do the routine of his life just to get into the

:26:10. > :26:10.medals. The score for a medal at the moment is 15.6. The latter gymnast

:26:11. > :26:27.to go, Arthur Zanetti. -- the last. Silence in the arena. Every person

:26:28. > :26:36.in this arena willing the great performance and that is a fantastic

:26:37. > :26:40.start. Great show of strength. Those from a static position and moved up

:26:41. > :26:50.to Maltese -- he goes from. This is a gymnast that has struggled

:26:51. > :26:53.slightly in the serene elements but is so, so strong, he makes the

:26:54. > :27:01.strength of look really easy throughout.

:27:02. > :27:16.Wrists open on the crucifix, saving every tenth.

:27:17. > :27:30.Up into the handstand. He scored 15.533 and qualifications. He needs

:27:31. > :27:38.to make the landing can. Well, I think he could well have done it. He

:27:39. > :27:42.gave it his absolute all. We are talking about maybe silver,

:27:43. > :27:48.potentially bronze, but 16 is a big, big ask. I don't think he's going to

:27:49. > :27:55.score 16 but I think it has potential to go into the bronze

:27:56. > :28:01.medal place. 15. Is that silver medal position, 15.6 is bronze

:28:02. > :28:09.medal. Petrounias leads with a score of 16. Well, it is all about the

:28:10. > :28:16.execution. Whenever judges can find little fractions of tenths to take

:28:17. > :28:21.away. I think the strength positions are almost perfect. There were a few

:28:22. > :28:29.wobbles in handstand. We will have to see how much the judges are going

:28:30. > :28:39.to deduct. Tiniest hope on landing. He is obviously delighted -- tiniest

:28:40. > :28:46.hop. Judges always go for execution, so if it is a tie, he will end up

:28:47. > :28:51.winning on execution. So let's just keep our eye on the scoreboard and

:28:52. > :28:56.what comes in. If his score matches, he will end up with that silver

:28:57. > :29:05.medal position. Let's have a look and see. He is applauding, the score

:29:06. > :29:12.is in, it is 15.766. Arthur Zanetti gets a silver medal for Brazil in

:29:13. > :29:18.the man's Olympic rings final. Petrounias takes gold. He is now

:29:19. > :29:25.European champion, world champion and Olympic champion. Zanetti, for

:29:26. > :29:35.Brazil, takes the silver and Dennis Abliazin and, for Russia, takes

:29:36. > :29:39.bronze. Well, I think it is fair to say that Zanetti came here expecting

:29:40. > :29:43.not to be able to retain that Olympic title, because Petrounias on

:29:44. > :29:51.the world stage in the last four years has just been unstoppable.

:29:52. > :29:58.Yes, he has been up in the highly 15.9s and 16s for the last year and

:29:59. > :30:01.only despite can get close to him. Unfortunately, he made a small

:30:02. > :30:06.mistake in the rings final and Zanetti has really capitalised that.

:30:07. > :30:11.Surprising, really, for the Chinese gymnast, because in those first two

:30:12. > :30:15.days of competition, team qualification and team final, they

:30:16. > :30:22.had looked so dominant on rings, but they weren't able to raise their

:30:23. > :30:27.game again. How often would you be -- expecting to be able to do your

:30:28. > :30:32.whole rings routine? It is hard, because some days when your body is

:30:33. > :30:35.naturally tired and you can't do all of your strength elements, it is not

:30:36. > :30:42.like pommel horse or floor, where you can do routines most days, you

:30:43. > :30:45.will have to do routines, half routines or with support from the

:30:46. > :30:49.coaches to just try and keep the position going.

:30:50. > :30:58.Well, these gymnasts, including Denis Ablyazin, will go up for their

:30:59. > :31:02.medals now, Denis Ablyazin will receive his bronze medal and then

:31:03. > :31:03.have to refocus very quickly for the men's vault final which is next

:31:04. > :31:27.here. Eleftherios HAZEL IRVINE: Ever popular here,

:31:28. > :31:31.Arthur Zanetti, it is another medal for Brazil, Lord of the Rings, he

:31:32. > :31:38.has been user at this time around. If you are just joining us, hello

:31:39. > :31:42.and welcome to day ten. We have been watching a lot of great sport here

:31:43. > :31:48.at the Olympic Games, and it was made even better by a 16th gold

:31:49. > :31:51.medal for Charlotte Dujardin a short while ago in the individual

:31:52. > :31:55.dressage. She has retained her title, the 40th middle of these

:31:56. > :31:59.games so far for the Great Britain team, and it came after a brilliant

:32:00. > :32:04.bronze from Sophie Hitchon in the women's hammer, a new British

:32:05. > :32:09.record. It means it is a first medal for a British woman in a field event

:32:10. > :32:15.in athletics since Fatima Whitbread in 1988. That is how significant

:32:16. > :32:18.that achievement is. It has been tremendous today. Also going well

:32:19. > :32:24.have been Great Britain's badminton players. Mark as Ellis and Chris

:32:25. > :32:28.Langridge are through in the Men's Doubles, they have played well above

:32:29. > :32:32.their world ranking of 22 in this competition so far to make it into

:32:33. > :32:37.the knockout stages, and they are in their quarterfinal today where they

:32:38. > :32:45.face the Japanese duo of endo and Hayakawa. It is best of three games,

:32:46. > :32:49.first 21 in will do it. The British pair have already won the first

:32:50. > :32:51.game, we will join them in the second, and commentary comes from

:32:52. > :33:09.Paul Hand and Simon Reed. COMMENTATOR: Ellis in so quickly. He

:33:10. > :33:21.has been a real powerhouse from the back. Chris is very tidy with the

:33:22. > :33:25.tight shots, and they have a terrific communication, you can see

:33:26. > :33:36.Chris Langridge shouting at, come on! And they were in a really tough

:33:37. > :33:40.group, which they did so well to get out of, Langridge and Ellis.

:33:41. > :33:51.And now, here they are, up against a pair who have been number two in the

:33:52. > :33:55.world. And they are frontrunners, and they are holding on really well.

:33:56. > :34:05.A 5-point cushion at the mid-game break. Back to that group, they beat

:34:06. > :34:27.Callington and that as well, so I really strong showing in that group.

:34:28. > :34:35.They have achieved so much in their two years together, have these two.

:34:36. > :34:38.That support tightened up, but this really out of all recognition, if

:34:39. > :35:25.they could get through to the semifinal of the Olympic Games.

:35:26. > :35:33.Again, miraculous defence, but Ellis will not be denied. He is taking

:35:34. > :35:39.over this match. Yes, bullying his way through, every point is just so

:35:40. > :35:40.gripping. I can't take my eyes off the screen, it is such a compelling

:35:41. > :36:05.watch. Oh, that is out. He can't make it

:36:06. > :36:12.every time! It just seems as if he can.

:36:13. > :36:20.A lovely blend of soft handed touch around the forecourt, and then

:36:21. > :36:41.bullying, menacing presence from the backcourt with Ellis.

:36:42. > :37:18.Well left. That was a tough shot to control.

:37:19. > :37:26.They have been a little careless on serve. There is a disturbing sense

:37:27. > :37:27.of calm and focused on the Japanese camp, but they have missed by

:37:28. > :37:57.increments every now and then. Yes, so quick, Langridge, to see the

:37:58. > :37:59.open court, just tuck sitting beautifully. Look how quick he was,

:38:00. > :38:08.he had to pounce, wonderful finish. Once again, the lead stretches to

:38:09. > :38:55.six. They are very nearly there. Good try from behind the back! It

:38:56. > :39:03.has been breathtaking, badminton at its best. I think this last one was

:39:04. > :39:07.a shout from the net, Chris couldn't quite get a read on it. Kind of had

:39:08. > :39:30.a double take at that one. They have spent more time on the

:39:31. > :39:31.grandest of stages, twice all England open finalists, super series

:39:32. > :39:38.event, of course. Used to turning matches like this

:39:39. > :40:10.around. So, hope springing again for the

:40:11. > :40:17.Japanese, just beginning to eat into the lead. Can the Brits stop them?

:40:18. > :40:30.The lead was six points, it is down to four.

:40:31. > :40:35.It is so wasteful. A clever idea, the execution not, just spilling

:40:36. > :40:46.over the back line. Just when they were starting to get

:40:47. > :41:31.things going. Then that happens. It's in. Again, super rally, great

:41:32. > :41:42.defence from both Ellis and Langridge.

:41:43. > :41:59.Court drenched in sweat. It is 34 degrees outside, it must be nearly

:42:00. > :42:04.that inside. It will certainly feel that we have the players. They don't

:42:05. > :42:08.want to turn the air conditioning up too much unless it creates drift in

:42:09. > :42:11.the hall. They were concerned about that before this badminton event

:42:12. > :42:14.started, about the drift in the hall. But we haven't heard too many

:42:15. > :42:37.complaints. Still the lead narrows. It has been

:42:38. > :43:41.halved now. Can they hang on? No, just missed! Another superhuman

:43:42. > :43:49.effort from the Brits, and it was from the racket of Ellis there. He

:43:50. > :43:52.had to change the direction, he has had such great results with that,

:43:53. > :43:55.but just spinning wide of the doubles line. So it is down to two

:43:56. > :44:16.now. Utterly focused, these two.

:44:17. > :44:20.Deep-seated belief well, they had a dreadful start to this second game,

:44:21. > :44:25.when they did seem all at sea, but just in the last couple of minutes,

:44:26. > :44:29.they look a different proposition. And it is going to be mighty tough

:44:30. > :44:33.for language and Ellis to hang on here.

:44:34. > :45:38.It is all Endo and Hayakawa. They were 15-10 up, and the lead

:45:39. > :45:43.evaporated so quickly. Perhaps they just need to take the time and

:45:44. > :45:47.somehow regroup, because these two, they are two men on a mission, in

:45:48. > :45:48.blue. How can they stop the momentum which is so firmly with the Japanese

:45:49. > :46:06.now? Yes. Great choice, great execution

:46:07. > :46:09.from Langridge. Yes, it was a straight net shot from the top

:46:10. > :46:21.drawer here by Chris Langridge. Wonderful hands.

:46:22. > :46:26.And of course, what it does for the Japanese, when you are playing soft

:46:27. > :46:30.shots like that, they don't know where to base themselves. Deep in

:46:31. > :46:34.the court, shorten the court? They have been bullied by the Ellis smash

:46:35. > :46:42.and with the soft skills, they are combining so well Langridge with the

:46:43. > :47:00.soft skills. Now can they put a few points back-to-back?

:47:01. > :47:10.Yes. Super finish. The bulk of the work from Ellis but Langridge with

:47:11. > :47:24.the finish. Just pummelling down on the right

:47:25. > :47:25.hip of Hayaka. In the end, Langridge with the finish and the league is

:47:26. > :47:34.back to two. -- the lead. And they have put a stop to the

:47:35. > :48:31.momentum. They managed to get Langridge away

:48:32. > :48:37.from the net and the Japanese are back level. There was a raucous cry

:48:38. > :48:41.from them in the penultimate point. The sharp end of the game, they are

:48:42. > :49:06.acquitting themselves very, very well. Endo with the big finish.

:49:07. > :49:14.They continue to waste points. And that may turn out to be crucial. We

:49:15. > :49:19.have seen a couple of service. The Japanese team. -- service mistakes

:49:20. > :50:13.from the Japanese team. Another monster rally. Langridge

:50:14. > :50:18.again with the punishment. It was a blistering point from both teams,

:50:19. > :50:23.wasn't it? Incredible, spreading the court well, both of them. Ellis

:50:24. > :50:29.setting it up wonderfully and Langridge sticking the knife in,

:50:30. > :50:33.closing the net down. Two points away.

:50:34. > :50:45.Can they hold their nerve, keep that kind of form going?

:50:46. > :51:11.What a mess from Endo. Expensive. So three points for the semifinal of

:51:12. > :51:15.the Olympic Games for Marcus Elliott and Chris Langridge. -- Marcus

:51:16. > :52:20.Ellis. It is out! And the Brits are

:52:21. > :52:27.through! And they look so confident at the end. What a result for

:52:28. > :52:35.British badminton. Such an emotive moment, wasn't it? A breathtaking

:52:36. > :52:42.performance from the world ranked 22nd couple, as Sting the eighth

:52:43. > :52:46.best team in the world. -- as Sting. Marcus, once you got to the

:52:47. > :52:51.quarterfinals, you said you had to pinch yourself in amazement. When

:52:52. > :52:57.you won the final point, you on your knees. What is your reaction today?

:52:58. > :53:00.I honestly can't believe it. Literally, five days ago, the

:53:01. > :53:04.competition started and we have had such hard matches and to come out on

:53:05. > :53:11.top today, oh, my God, I really am lost words. It is beyond what we

:53:12. > :53:15.could have expected. Chris, where does this rank in terms of career

:53:16. > :53:20.highlights? It's definitely the best. It is unbelievable. Without

:53:21. > :53:25.sounding too cheesy, it does show, you put in hard work, you graphed

:53:26. > :53:30.away and we are not the most gifted, the quickest, but we work hard, we

:53:31. > :53:34.work really well together, the way we flowed together as a team, it

:53:35. > :53:38.shows when two people put their mind to something and I will hold my hand

:53:39. > :53:43.up, I am not the best player but I work hard and this is insane, the

:53:44. > :53:46.semifinal of the Olympics. The way we are playing, there is no reason

:53:47. > :53:51.why we can't push the other guys. I am well up for a medal.

:53:52. > :53:56.And we are very glad to hear it! Ellis and Langridge through to the

:53:57. > :54:01.semifinals, fantastic performance and they have the Chinese bought

:54:02. > :54:07.seeds tomorrow. If you have just come in, let me tell you about a

:54:08. > :54:12.significant happening in women's sport. Sophie Hitchon breaking the

:54:13. > :54:16.record in the hammer with the last throw of the competition to take the

:54:17. > :54:21.bronze medal and the love Brad Thrower, Burnley born, fourth at the

:54:22. > :54:25.World Championships last year, she has struck a blow here, the first

:54:26. > :54:32.field event medal for a British woman for 28 years. I have said

:54:33. > :54:37.before, training is going really, really well, so the distance really

:54:38. > :54:42.wasn't expected but to get a bronze medal, I'm just over the moon. You

:54:43. > :54:46.set the tone of early on with a really big throw, you got in a medal

:54:47. > :54:51.positions early, so we thinking, this could be my day? You never know

:54:52. > :54:54.in hammer. The girls are all throwing really well and they can

:54:55. > :54:58.always produce their best in the last round so I didn't expect that

:54:59. > :55:03.all it would hold third, I just knew I wanted to throw further and try to

:55:04. > :55:07.execute my technique. Missed it on a few but I knew it was going to go if

:55:08. > :55:11.I kept it going. The last round, you had dropped into fifth by that

:55:12. > :55:16.point, what were you thinking of going into the circle? Just that

:55:17. > :55:19.this is it, last chance, do what I have done in training again and

:55:20. > :55:25.again and again and just execute. I did it and I can't believe it. When

:55:26. > :55:31.the distance went up on the board, what was your reaction? I had to

:55:32. > :55:35.double take a little bit because, you know, it was just incredible and

:55:36. > :55:39.to see the number three there and a national record, I couldn't be

:55:40. > :55:43.happier. And by coach has stuck with me through the bad times and

:55:44. > :55:50.obviously the good times, but thank you for everyone at Moffett Field

:55:51. > :55:53.for helping me, everyone at home, my mum, my family, the national lottery

:55:54. > :55:57.and all of the players, we couldn't do it without you and I can't

:55:58. > :56:02.believe it, it has been an amazing day. It is also an amazing day for

:56:03. > :56:05.women's throwing, we have won medals in javelin before but never in

:56:06. > :56:08.Olympic history anything like this, so it is a big step forward and you

:56:09. > :56:14.will probably inspire a lot of people, do you think? I definitely

:56:15. > :56:18.hope so. I don't even think about it when I step in the circle, I just

:56:19. > :56:22.try and do what I can do best but hopefully if I can inspire a few

:56:23. > :56:27.people to take up hammer, it will be brilliant. I know your coach was as

:56:28. > :56:33.animated as you, you can have a look at his reaction just down here. He

:56:34. > :56:37.is the best ever! And Polly behind him, my goodness. He is the best

:56:38. > :56:41.coach ever, I could never do this without him. He has stuck by me

:56:42. > :56:47.through times when I was ready to just not do it any more and we both

:56:48. > :56:52.knew that I had it in me and for him to be there is just amazing. I am

:56:53. > :56:57.glad I can do it for him as well as me at this point. I know it is

:56:58. > :57:01.emotional for you, congratulations again. Celebrate with all the team

:57:02. > :57:07.tonight, well done. I will, thank you very much. I love you, Mum And

:57:08. > :57:15.Dad! It is official, she loves you and we love Sophie two, finishing in

:57:16. > :57:18.a medal place, the winner finishing over 80 minutes, sensational stop.

:57:19. > :57:25.Let me remind you of some of the other headlines on day ten.

:57:26. > :57:29.Great Britain's gold rush has continued with Charlotte Dujardin

:57:30. > :57:33.and successfully defending her individual dressage title. She takes

:57:34. > :57:36.her tally to three Olympic gold medals.

:57:37. > :57:40.And as we have seen, Sophie Hitchon saving her best till last in the

:57:41. > :57:44.hammer final, breaking the British record. An historic bronze, the

:57:45. > :57:48.first British women to -- woman to win a medal in that event.

:57:49. > :57:52.Mark Cavendish remains on course to win his first Olympic medal, lying

:57:53. > :57:56.third after four events of the men's on the with the final two to come

:57:57. > :58:00.this evening in the velodrome. In the women's on the, Laura Trott

:58:01. > :58:05.is bidding to become the first British woman to win four gold

:58:06. > :58:11.medals. She is first out of the opening scratch race.

:58:12. > :58:16.And with giblet blew away the others in the steeplechase -- Jebet. But

:58:17. > :58:21.she agonisingly missed out on the world record by less than a second.

:58:22. > :58:26.And in case you were wondering, has Charlotte Dujardin cause for a

:58:27. > :58:28.double celebration? Yes, she has, she has just been speaking

:58:29. > :58:33.afterwards and this is her other half, Dean Golding, who put the sign

:58:34. > :58:38.on the chest, "Can we get married now?" And in the press conference,

:58:39. > :58:43.she said, "He just wants me to say yes. He has already asked me to

:58:44. > :58:48.marry him, I have a ring on my finger. He is such a banana, he has

:58:49. > :58:52.made it so public, I have to do it now." So double celebrations,

:58:53. > :58:56.Charlotte, are not just the gold medal but on your engagement and I

:58:57. > :59:00.am sure champagne corks will be popping all over the Olympic

:59:01. > :59:02.Village. From the afternoon team, goodbye for now.
