:00:22. > :00:27.Welcome back to Rio where we are bringing you live coverage of the

:00:28. > :00:32.women's beam. Waiting for scores to come out to find out if Simone Biles

:00:33. > :00:38.still has the lead or not. Here is Matt with the latest.

:00:39. > :00:51.Yes, she still leads. Sanne Wevers just going through her difficulty

:00:52. > :00:57.score is there to make sure everything is right. If it is not

:00:58. > :01:03.what she's expecting, they will put in an appeal. They will. We saw her

:01:04. > :01:12.in the qualification doing the same and she did protest. She is 24 years

:01:13. > :01:21.old, she is not a beginner and she knows what she expects from all the

:01:22. > :01:26.hard work she has done. She scored 15.066 in qualification. What will

:01:27. > :01:30.she be awarded here and will she go ahead of Simone Biles? If she does,

:01:31. > :01:41.that will be a very major upset in these championships. A great doubles

:01:42. > :01:45.in there. Such a different style of gymnastics to Simone Biles. Sam

:01:46. > :01:50.Wevers uses the spins, jumps and connect them all together. You can

:01:51. > :02:00.see the judges are in searing they have difficulty value. And we saw

:02:01. > :02:06.her working it out herself to make sure they get it the same. Someone

:02:07. > :02:10.watching closely will be her dad who is also her coach. And her twin

:02:11. > :02:17.sister is also on the team from the Netherlands as well. The Netherlands

:02:18. > :02:22.have had a great championships. They made the team final. This team is

:02:23. > :02:28.such an elegant special team. This is the most special gymnast we have

:02:29. > :02:35.seen. A huge disappointment for Simone Biles, knowing what she is

:02:36. > :02:38.capable of. Usually, you bring in the human element in a final like

:02:39. > :02:46.this. It doesn't matter what you doing the training gym. Can you

:02:47. > :02:51.replicate what you can do in the training gym on a platform like

:02:52. > :02:59.this? To the first time we have seen her fault at all. She has been so

:03:00. > :03:04.confident. She has just shown that she has frailties like everybody

:03:05. > :03:08.else. She has been so super-confident through the

:03:09. > :03:14.individual and the team final. She already has three gold medals.

:03:15. > :03:24.Guess, and she could still be within a shot of a medal here. We're just

:03:25. > :03:29.waiting for this score now. A huge achievement, a special talented

:03:30. > :03:37.gymnast. You can see her team-mate warming up there, going through her

:03:38. > :03:46.routine on the floor. You know all the gymnasts now. The timings are

:03:47. > :03:51.different. She goes well ahead of Simone Biles, Sanne Wevers, and that

:03:52. > :03:58.will put huge pressure on the gymnasts to follow. That will be one

:03:59. > :04:05.big score to try and beat. Well, a gymnast who has had a very long wait

:04:06. > :04:11.indeed is Catalina Ponor. She was Olympic champion in 2004 in Athens.

:04:12. > :04:18.Four-time European champion, and flying the flag for Romania. There

:04:19. > :04:24.is no Romanian women's team here, can you believe? Her speciality

:04:25. > :04:27.teas. A simple mount to get onto the beam. Here is her first connection

:04:28. > :04:44.coming up. Beautiful style. A half turning

:04:45. > :04:52.flick. Just missed the connection going into the next element. The

:04:53. > :04:57.free walkover into the flick layout. No movement there. She will just

:04:58. > :05:13.miss out on the connection. Better for that than a full.

:05:14. > :05:37.She holds the handstand. One of only a few gymnasts who actually performs

:05:38. > :05:45.this element. The compulsory spin that they have to show. There was a

:05:46. > :05:50.beep so she has to get off within ten seconds and she does with a

:05:51. > :05:57.double pike and a big step back. Some very big deductions in there

:05:58. > :06:04.and Eric Spear tells her, Chris? Yes. She comes back into competition

:06:05. > :06:07.but one of the things that this soap is a cult to do is mentally get that

:06:08. > :06:12.resilience back once you have been out of competition for some time --

:06:13. > :06:19.will over the years we have seen Catalina

:06:20. > :06:26.Ponor soak up the pressure with ease. It was all the air, little

:06:27. > :06:33.pauses and wobbles. I don't think that will be good enough to go into

:06:34. > :06:39.the lead. She did not fall but their world wobbles. You have to put your

:06:40. > :06:46.foot straight down and go into the flip. The dismount was nice and high

:06:47. > :06:53.but a big step back racked up deductions.

:06:54. > :07:00.It has been a long wait for the likes of Ponor. Competed as an

:07:01. > :07:06.individual on the second day of the Olympics. Now we are on day ten. And

:07:07. > :07:11.talking of long waits, the weight she had before the routine, even

:07:12. > :07:17.someone as ghastly experience does her, Beth, it doesn't help? It does

:07:18. > :07:21.not help and it can unnerve a gymnast. Once you stand on the

:07:22. > :07:28.podium you cannot warm up any elements, you can only shake your

:07:29. > :07:34.body about and keep warm. You do not want to be rushed getting back up.

:07:35. > :07:39.And also be rattled by the fact that Simone Biles had the problems she

:07:40. > :07:44.had. Suddenly, Sanne Wevers is out there. This could be history in the

:07:45. > :07:48.making for her because by my reckoning, the Netherlands have

:07:49. > :07:54.never got an Olympic medal on the women's side. That is a huge score

:07:55. > :08:02.for a beam routine. That was very costly that routine, all the wobbles

:08:03. > :08:10.and no connections. Sanne Wevers looking to make history. There are

:08:11. > :08:16.three gymnastics to go. One of them is 16-year-old Laurie Hernandez. She

:08:17. > :08:21.was part of the team who won gold for the US. She will be desperately

:08:22. > :08:45.keen to make her mark. You could see she was slightly off.

:08:46. > :09:05.She fixed the muscles in her body to control that.

:09:06. > :09:12.She met the beam really well and linked to the jump. Another

:09:13. > :09:36.acrobatic skills. Five acrobatic skills.

:09:37. > :09:46.A double pike, very good landing. This will be tight. A medal could

:09:47. > :09:49.well be on but what colour will it be? I watched Simone Biles all the

:09:50. > :09:54.way through that and she was cheering her on and living every

:09:55. > :10:00.moment of that beam routine with Laurie Hernandez. What a team-mate

:10:01. > :10:03.to have. It is, and such a difficult thing to going from that team

:10:04. > :10:07.environment to be up there by yourself. To have your team-mate

:10:08. > :10:14.cheering you on throughout the routine, you can see this was such a

:10:15. > :10:19.solid routine from beginning to end. In qualification she posted a 6.4

:10:20. > :10:27.difficulty which was two tenth lower than the Dutch posted in this final.

:10:28. > :10:31.Fabulous acrobatic skills. A front somersault straight into the jump.

:10:32. > :10:48.She got a little bit edgy. Only 16 years old. To come off and

:10:49. > :10:51.perform under that pressure. The coach is still giving her a huge

:10:52. > :11:05.hug! We were not adding the difficulty

:11:06. > :11:16.up. She had less wobbles than Sanne Wevers.

:11:17. > :11:23.The story is very different to what we expected here. I am sure the

:11:24. > :11:29.story is different to what Simone Biles was expecting as well, but she

:11:30. > :11:33.is there supporting. She has recovered herself very well. One of

:11:34. > :11:38.the most impressive things about her is what a joyful gymnast Shias. She

:11:39. > :11:47.took a few moments to be disappointed but put it behind her

:11:48. > :11:49.and supported her team-mate and give a smile for the camera! Such a

:11:50. > :11:55.technical piece of apparatus this. It is so intricate to judge this?

:11:56. > :12:01.Yes, and there were so many connections and the judges had to

:12:02. > :12:06.decide if there was a pause. We have seen in a lot of these finals one or

:12:07. > :12:13.two tenth can make the difference between an Olympic medal and not.

:12:14. > :12:23.Her face says it all, it is not quite enough, but silver at the

:12:24. > :12:32.moment. What a turn up. The American women had looked invincible, but it

:12:33. > :12:38.beam. This really is a big surprise. Two gymnasts left to go. The last

:12:39. > :12:42.one will take the roof off will Flavia Saraiva from Brazil. But

:12:43. > :12:49.before she comes out, this is Marine Boyer, another 16-year-old here. She

:12:50. > :13:05.was second at the Europeans earlier this year.

:13:06. > :13:12.A very difficult connection, very well executed. A small little

:13:13. > :13:26.wobble. There are two jobs which are

:13:27. > :14:04.compulsory to show the judges. The dismount has to count towards

:14:05. > :14:10.the top eight elements. And here it goes, the round off into the double

:14:11. > :14:15.pike. A good little landing, just a small step back. There were a few

:14:16. > :14:22.errors in that routine which the judges will deduct four. She makes

:14:23. > :14:29.things look easy though. She has got a natural power. And actually quite

:14:30. > :14:34.tall for a gymnast. A lot of gymnasts in this final using the

:14:35. > :14:35.round off straight somersault and really nicely performed. Easy

:14:36. > :14:49.splits. This was the place she almost came

:14:50. > :14:54.to grief. You could see her looking at the beam. Good control on the two

:14:55. > :15:12.spins. I can tell you that Laurie Hernandez

:15:13. > :15:15.is just checking with the difficulty, she has put in an

:15:16. > :15:23.enquiry so we will have to wait a little bit longer. She was awarded

:15:24. > :15:31.6.4 two Wevers 6.6. That was the difference. Hernandez actually had a

:15:32. > :15:36.higher execution score than Wevers. She did wobble a bit left but the

:15:37. > :15:41.routine was not as difficult. Obviously, the American delegation

:15:42. > :15:50.felt they had been harshly done by an the difficulty scores. So the

:15:51. > :15:52.enquiry goes on. The judges, the jury look at the video and decide if

:15:53. > :16:08.they would do anything different. She did put in a 6.4 in qualifying

:16:09. > :16:17.and in the heat. There are a few different accommodations they do,

:16:18. > :16:20.the front somersault into the jump, and you would have to look back at

:16:21. > :16:28.the various beam routine is she's done throughout this competition.

:16:29. > :16:35.Also things like one of the last elements, if it didn't touch her

:16:36. > :16:40.head they would put the value down. So, Marine Boyer's score is in and

:16:41. > :16:48.it is 14.6, she's into fourth place, which guarantees Sanne Wevers a

:16:49. > :16:53.silver. It's been projected, you can see that on the screen. Sanne Wevers

:16:54. > :17:02.now guaranteed at least a silver, making history as the first female

:17:03. > :17:08.gymnast ever to win an Olympic medal in gymnastics from the Netherlands.

:17:09. > :17:14.There is a real chance here for Flavia Saraiva from Brazil, because

:17:15. > :17:20.Brazil have also never had an Olympic medal on the women's side.

:17:21. > :17:29.The score for bronze is 14.7 33. That would match Simone Biles. A

:17:30. > :17:35.really sharp little gymnast. This is a very important opening series, two

:17:36. > :17:42.lay out somersaults, well negotiated.

:17:43. > :17:58.Oh! She's held it but that will be a deduction for the wobble. Nice spin,

:17:59. > :18:01.very elegant, very sharp in her performance. Lovely height on the

:18:02. > :18:19.jumps. And this is the switch leg leap to

:18:20. > :18:27.touch their head, and her head was well back, there. She did such their

:18:28. > :18:36.head on both those jumps. Super high front somersault, just a little pop

:18:37. > :18:41.back to gain control. Free walk over, free walk over, side

:18:42. > :18:47.somersault, very little wobble but she managed to do that series. In

:18:48. > :18:52.comes the big dismount. It was a great effort. It was a great effort,

:18:53. > :18:57.but not without deduction, and we think it will not be enough for

:18:58. > :19:00.Flavia Saraiva to get into the medals, so we will have to get

:19:01. > :19:06.confirmation of the judges but we think that Sammy Weathers's score

:19:07. > :19:11.from the Netherlands, the first ever female gymnast to get a medal, but

:19:12. > :19:15.now it's a gold and we think Lauren Hernandez will be in with a shout of

:19:16. > :19:20.silver and we think Simone Biles will hang on for bronze. But we wait

:19:21. > :19:26.for domination, it will be very close. There weren't any Foles, a

:19:27. > :19:41.couple of wobbles, but she made her connections. She scored 15.133 in

:19:42. > :19:56.qualification. It wasn't clear than that, -- cleaner than that but was

:19:57. > :19:59.it cleaner than 14.7? We've seen three Olympic gymnastics medals for

:20:00. > :20:05.Brazil, they've just gone mental, so we will just have to sit and wait.

:20:06. > :20:12.Well, Flavia Saraiva just make sure everything is right. I don't think

:20:13. > :20:14.she can quite believe it. I don't think she will challenge and Sammy

:20:15. > :20:19.Weathers. She's been such a consistent gymnast over this vital

:20:20. > :20:24.and impressed time and time again on the beam. It's great to see a

:20:25. > :20:29.different style, isn't it? It's very difficult, those turns and those

:20:30. > :20:35.leaps, the consistency is just as hard as the actual acrobatic

:20:36. > :20:40.somersaults, I think she's the only gymnast that uses the triple spin on

:20:41. > :20:44.the beam, so credit to her for putting that different style of

:20:45. > :20:50.gymnastics together. The question is, are the judges going to give a

:20:51. > :21:00.medal to Simone Biles or two Flavia Saraiva?

:21:01. > :21:15.Well, this crowd watched Zanetti get a silver for Brazil and rings and

:21:16. > :21:19.hour ago, are we seeing this little firecracker of a gymnast get a medal

:21:20. > :21:24.here? Sammy Weathers waiting for confirmation that she is the Olympic

:21:25. > :21:35.champion. Laurie Hernandez guaranteed a medal as well. But will

:21:36. > :21:43.Simone Biles? Will she get bronze? Well, it's right down to the wire,

:21:44. > :21:49.here. We talk about finals being won out right. They've waited a long

:21:50. > :21:58.time for this final. The last one of the day. So, the Netherlands weight

:21:59. > :22:03.with bated breath, as does Sammy weather is. Laurie Hann and as new

:22:04. > :22:12.the door was open for that gold after what happened to her

:22:13. > :22:20.team-mate. Just waiting. Any second now... For Simone Biles. There was

:22:21. > :22:28.talk that the USA might take every gold medal in this Championships

:22:29. > :22:34.hasn't gone their way so far. Russia took the bars gold. We understand

:22:35. > :22:42.Marine Boyer has now put in an inquiry committee has a score of

:22:43. > :22:54.14.6 at the moment with a score of -- with a difficulty of 6.1.

:22:55. > :23:03.As it stands, then, Sammy Weathers is in the lead. Simone Biles hanging

:23:04. > :23:08.on in there in that bronze medal position with a score of 14.733.

:23:09. > :23:13.We're just waiting for Flavia Saraiva's score to come in but there

:23:14. > :23:19.has been an inquiry, so this could take some time. Come back to us

:23:20. > :23:23.shortly. Agro studio good advice, Matt. Whatever happens, it seems

:23:24. > :23:27.that if the Netherlands's six gold medal of these Games. We have been

:23:28. > :23:36.seeing the fifth of six races in the men's omnium. Mark Cavendish, they

:23:37. > :23:40.have two one half laps to wind up before they put in the fastest 250

:23:41. > :23:46.metres that they can. As we join it, Dylan Kennett has the fastest time,

:23:47. > :23:53.Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark, and a going in reverse order so you will

:23:54. > :24:04.see Mark Cavendish after this. COMMENTATOR: Mark Cavendish next.

:24:05. > :24:07.Disastrous elimination race for Viviani and he would be bitterly

:24:08. > :24:11.disappointed if it cursed him an Olympic dog medal. He is fighting to

:24:12. > :24:14.get back on level terms. He's looked really good in all of the event so

:24:15. > :24:18.far apart from that disastrous effort in the 11 nation race. An

:24:19. > :24:27.all-out sprint over one lap of the track. A tenth of a second down at

:24:28. > :24:36.the first time check, gone out a bit here, and Hanson's time, second

:24:37. > :24:40.quickest! 12.832. Finish nicely, but the one we interested in really is

:24:41. > :24:45.Mark Cavendish. We're hearing from the camp that he is expected to go

:24:46. > :24:52.inside that magic 13 second marker, at the question is by how much.

:24:53. > :24:58.Suggesting maybe a 12.8 four Mark Cavendish. He's introduced the crowd

:24:59. > :25:04.and there is the raw. I'm hoping for a bit more than 12.8. If he could

:25:05. > :25:07.scrape a 12.7, that could make all the difference here. Mark Cavendish

:25:08. > :25:12.going into this penultimate round of the omnium in third place, less than

:25:13. > :25:19.a lap away from his flying lap of 250 metres, the greatest road man

:25:20. > :25:23.sprinter of all time, needs to sprint for his life here on the

:25:24. > :25:27.boards in Rio and here we go, Cavendish under way in his sprint!

:25:28. > :25:34.Around the bottom of the track into the back straight. Powers away to

:25:35. > :25:41.our left, into the finishing straight, up towards the line,

:25:42. > :25:48.12.793! Second quickest. Well, he will have to be happy with that. A

:25:49. > :25:53.personal best yet again for the Manxman, buy some considerable

:25:54. > :25:57.margin. Two good riders behind him but even if they did go quicker,

:25:58. > :26:04.which is certainly not guaranteed, that's a very good performance from

:26:05. > :26:14.him. That will be an excellent result from Cavendish. Now, Budat

:26:15. > :26:19.France is out there on the boards, the penultimate rider to go. Also

:26:20. > :26:24.not keen on this discipline, 14th at the worlds, there were not expecting

:26:25. > :26:28.a massive amount from him but he is one of the riders on form and rode

:26:29. > :26:33.well particularly in the elimination race. Good technique. He looks much

:26:34. > :26:39.better here than he did at the World Championships earlier in the year.

:26:40. > :26:47.Now Boudat of France, 12.506 the quickest time. He is up the pace at

:26:48. > :26:52.the moment. All over the track and it's costing him distance. Costing

:26:53. > :27:00.him distance and places and that will cost him points as well. Eighth

:27:01. > :27:04.fastest, he has lost ground an Mark Cavendish. Those two were level on

:27:05. > :27:08.points in second and third going into this penultimate round. This is

:27:09. > :27:12.where his background of Tour de France riding in the past few weeks

:27:13. > :27:16.probably starts to help. His body is used to having to recover quickly as

:27:17. > :27:21.fatigue sets in, and as the competition goes on he will probably

:27:22. > :27:27.feel stronger than the rest. The last man to go, the Italian, Elia

:27:28. > :27:31.Viviani. He does like this one, he won this particular discipline at

:27:32. > :27:38.the omnium in London. He has been on for more this conversation and he

:27:39. > :27:43.noticed track craft. A very fine performer over a number of seasons.

:27:44. > :27:48.Not just because he is in the lead but the way he is riding, he is the

:27:49. > :27:54.man to beat in this competition. You can see the balance in his posture,

:27:55. > :27:58.track craft is great, doesn't come down too quickly, sprints down the

:27:59. > :28:03.home straight and starts the clock. We know he has a fair old turn up a

:28:04. > :28:08.sand he's hurt and be showing it here, Viviani. Losing a bit of

:28:09. > :28:15.ground, though, and over the line with the second fastest time.

:28:16. > :28:19.12.660. Mark Cavendish third fastest. That moves him up from the

:28:20. > :28:25.bronze medal position into silver overall with one race to go. Viviani

:28:26. > :28:39.in the bronze medal position... All to play for in the points race

:28:40. > :28:44.which we will breed bringing you later. Let's head back to the

:28:45. > :28:51.gymnastics and the latest, Matt? COMMENTATOR: Sammy Weathers is the

:28:52. > :28:58.theme Olympic champion. Simone Biles does hang on for bronze. Flavia

:28:59. > :29:00.Saraiva finishes in fifth, with Marine Boyer in fourth place. Lauren

:29:01. > :29:10.Hernandez gets the silver. There you can see the full finishing

:29:11. > :29:20.order. Congratulations to Sanne Wevers. The beam is ten centimetres

:29:21. > :29:24.wide, the same width as Chris Foy Mashud -- Chris Hoy's mobile phone.

:29:25. > :29:29.Just some of Mark Cavendish's performance so far, can he win the
