:00:15. > :00:20.Brazil rather playing themselves into trouble there. You can see as

:00:21. > :00:21.well, when Sweden pressurise the Brazil back line, they tend to make

:00:22. > :00:29.mistakes. Asliani, the Manchester City player,

:00:30. > :00:55.causing problems. You can see at the bottom of your

:00:56. > :01:04.picture, the Brazilian coach, right on the edge of his technical area.

:01:05. > :01:24.Cristiane just losing out. Sofia Jakobsson, the only player

:01:25. > :01:36.that Sweden have brought on sofa. They don't have too many more

:01:37. > :01:40.attacking options on the bench. Fridolina Rolfo is out of the

:01:41. > :01:52.competition after breaking a metatarsal, the curse of the

:01:53. > :02:01.metatarsals striking Sweden. The pace of the game has dropped again.

:02:02. > :02:06.You could see the Swedish formation there, five across the middle. They

:02:07. > :02:16.are well organised. It has frustrated Brazil. But even a player

:02:17. > :02:29.like Marta has not been able to find any joy between the lines. I think

:02:30. > :02:35.Marta was the intended recipient of that. They have kept the space

:02:36. > :02:40.between their back four and their midfield five and the front one

:02:41. > :02:44.quite tight. Brazil like to play in between the lines. They have not

:02:45. > :02:51.been able to do that. Credit to Pia Sundhage and Sweden. They were blown

:02:52. > :02:57.away, three down at half-time in the group game in which they eventually

:02:58. > :03:12.lost 5-1. But clearly, Pia Sundhage has looked at the video and learned

:03:13. > :03:16.from that. That makes a good coach. She seems to be a coach that players

:03:17. > :03:23.want to play for. And you can tell that. When you have such a good

:03:24. > :03:31.character as a manager, she knows how to manage players as well as

:03:32. > :03:36.coach them. Makes such a difference. They were runners-up in their own

:03:37. > :03:49.euros three years ago. They lost to Germany. There is no flag. Brazil

:03:50. > :03:58.were looking towards the assistant. Raphael had to concede the corner.

:03:59. > :04:01.She is onside. That is where Sweden can get in. It was good defending in

:04:02. > :04:18.the end. It the mother Sweden corner. And

:04:19. > :04:33.that is the cue for Fischer to move forward.

:04:34. > :04:42.Schelin is the target, and she wasn't too far away. She could have

:04:43. > :04:54.done better. This was a good corner from Asliani. That was close.

:04:55. > :05:08.Barbara was nowhere near. She didn't even move. It is only the Swedes'

:05:09. > :05:13.fourth effort on goal. All of those four chances have been clear-cut,

:05:14. > :05:39.where as many of Brazil's have been fairly wasteful.

:05:40. > :06:06.Much better from Sweden. Little triangles.

:06:07. > :06:10.The diet of long, diagonal balls has not really work for Brazil the

:06:11. > :06:38.longer the game has gone on. That was a change that Brazil made

:06:39. > :06:51.at half-time, but it didn't change the way they played. And already, we

:06:52. > :06:58.are ten minutes into the first period. And apart from a header from

:06:59. > :07:08.Shildon, neither side has looked like scoring. Bea comes off, to be

:07:09. > :07:20.replaced by Raquel Fernandes, who plays club football in China. Bea

:07:21. > :07:25.has worked really hard. There need to be a change to a different type

:07:26. > :07:36.of player. Raquel Fernandes will not hold the ball up. They do have

:07:37. > :07:50.Cristiane now, who can be the main striker. And they will play-off her.

:07:51. > :07:56.Lotta Schelin has worked so hard, the Swedish captain. Really

:07:57. > :08:24.sacrificed her own performance for the team effort.

:08:25. > :08:46.The flag is up. Racquel was looking to get on the end of that. There has

:08:47. > :08:52.been a noticeable lack of wit from Brazil at times. When they do win

:08:53. > :08:56.the ball, they can just the midfield area, which said the Swedes. Which

:08:57. > :09:01.Sweden are happy with, because that is where they have got all the

:09:02. > :09:06.bodies. When Brazil got their joy earlier, it was when they got the

:09:07. > :09:23.ball out wide. It was the lack of quality from the crosses.

:09:24. > :09:33.This may be Formiga's last chance for a gold medal, at the age of 38.

:09:34. > :10:03.Olympic odyssey started in Atlanta in 1996.

:10:04. > :10:25.We are going to see a Swedish change. Appelqvist comes off. And

:10:26. > :10:30.Olivia Schough comes on. Schough made her debut in 2013 around a

:10:31. > :10:37.Euros, which were played in Sweden. A former Bayern Munich player, who

:10:38. > :10:39.are now the pre-eminent team in Germany, having won the women's

:10:40. > :10:55.Bundesliga for the last two years. That was a tad effort. -- a tired

:10:56. > :11:24.effort. Both sides are looking increasingly

:11:25. > :11:52.weary. Jakobsson has got the free kick.

:11:53. > :12:00.That is half-time in extra time. In fact, the whistle has been given for

:12:01. > :12:14.a free kick. They will have one added minute.

:12:15. > :12:30.Brazil may have one final chance before we turn around.

:12:31. > :12:37.Again, it is a rather aimless delivery. Just a long, hopeful ball.

:12:38. > :12:44.It is a tired ball. Yeah. Brazil have done that too many times,

:12:45. > :13:01.straight balls. You need at least a diagonal run. No real end product.

:13:02. > :13:10.That is half-time. So, we are 15 minutes away from a penalty shoot

:13:11. > :13:14.out, some. Any sign of winning goal? We thought this might happen, didn't

:13:15. > :13:18.we? I think the fact that Sweden have only scored three goals in the

:13:19. > :13:22.whole tournament and the fact that Brazil's goals seem to have dried

:13:23. > :13:26.up, we thought it could go there. Especially when we saw how Sweden

:13:27. > :13:30.were set up. We thought this could happen, and it has. I think we are

:13:31. > :13:37.going all the witter penalties, I'm honest. Well, the Brazilian crowd

:13:38. > :13:42.built up a terrific atmosphere at the start of the game. But I think

:13:43. > :13:46.they have become frustrated and anxious as well, and maybe that has

:13:47. > :13:50.transmitted to the players. Maybe, because I thought Brazil started off

:13:51. > :13:53.brightly with the way they pressurised Sweden. They were

:13:54. > :13:57.causing mistakes early on and getting the ball out wide. They

:13:58. > :14:05.didn't have that final ball, but they looked lively. As the game has

:14:06. > :14:11.gone on, maybe they did expend too much energy early on. Sweden have

:14:12. > :14:17.stuck to their game plan, and could have probably scored goals

:14:18. > :14:22.themselves. Well, Sweden will have no fears about what is coming up,

:14:23. > :14:27.having beaten the United States in the quarterfinal. That was the

:14:28. > :14:32.ultimate pressure game for them. They came through that in the

:14:33. > :14:38.penalty shoot out. And even in a semifinal, it is wrong to say all

:14:39. > :14:42.the pressure is on Brazil, but I suppose the crowd developed that

:14:43. > :14:46.sort of situation. Of course, and it is how they deal with that pressure.

:14:47. > :14:51.Up to now, they have dealt with it well, but this is a semifinal.

:14:52. > :14:56.Sweden are a very experienced team, probably used to being in this

:14:57. > :15:02.situation more than Brazil. But a penalty shoot out, it is the old

:15:03. > :15:04.cliche, but anything can happen. Well, we have 15 minutes to avoid

:15:05. > :15:32.that possibility. Rubensson really shone, in

:15:33. > :15:41.particular in the first half, when Brazil exerted plenty of pressure.

:15:42. > :15:50.The cross was overhit. In fact it was Raquel's cross. Marta wanted

:15:51. > :16:15.that whipped in The Swedes appeal for handball. It

:16:16. > :16:33.seemed to bobble up and hit the arm of the Brazilian striker.

:16:34. > :16:44.Sembrant, yet again, with another block for Sweden.

:16:45. > :16:48.She wanted to bounce that off somebody. They all made the same run

:16:49. > :17:05.forward. Nobody just stood still. Brazil showing intent at the start

:17:06. > :17:10.of this second period. Alves with another shot which doesn't really

:17:11. > :18:06.test Lindahl. It was going wide any way. A weak effort.

:18:07. > :18:42.Sweden play their way out of trouble once again.

:18:43. > :18:53.It's the side netting. That was a massive chance for Sweden. A good

:18:54. > :18:59.break. Fantastic play from Schelin to win the ball back. A good ball

:19:00. > :19:02.into Schelin. Could she have crossed that first time. She took a touch,

:19:03. > :19:08.another touch. Tried to get herself a yard. Could only hit it into the

:19:09. > :19:10.side netting. She scuffed it in the end. Enough pressure from the

:19:11. > :19:15.defender. Jakobsson made the turn, but that's

:19:16. > :20:38.as far as it went. Another high, hopeful ball, which

:20:39. > :20:54.Lindahl will be happy to see for the remaining ten minutes or so.

:20:55. > :21:10.No free kick given. Now the free kick. Vadao, the coach, is furious.

:21:11. > :21:15.I think that was a foul. She got her body in between the ball. I wonder

:21:16. > :21:20.about the Fischer tackle early on. Shh... It was a bad touch from her

:21:21. > :21:26.initially. It did look like she fouled the player to get the ball

:21:27. > :21:57.back. The referee didn't give. It the crowd are furious.

:21:58. > :22:11.Marta has barely seen the ball during extra time.

:22:12. > :22:20.Marta makes the block. She may require some treatment. In that

:22:21. > :22:24.situation, would you want Marta in a more central area? Yeah, of course.

:22:25. > :22:29.She has that free role where she can roam and get on the ball. I think

:22:30. > :22:33.the only way she's finding the space is trying to go out wide. It's a

:22:34. > :22:37.real hit to the back of the head there.

:22:38. > :22:44.Yeah you want her centrally. If the ball's going to break, you want it

:22:45. > :22:54.to fall at Marta's feet. She hasn't really had that clear-cut chance.

:22:55. > :22:59.Brazil have so much flair going forward, but tactically they're not

:23:00. > :23:04.very astute. They carried on with the same long ball. Sweden have

:23:05. > :23:16.dealt with it really easily. Coming into central areas, where Sweden are

:23:17. > :23:51.packing out the midfield. Marta is back on the field of play.

:23:52. > :24:26.Rackel had gone too soon -- Raquel. Both teams absolutely shattered now.

:24:27. > :24:59.Can this youngster provide a moment of magic?

:25:00. > :25:10.Alves was pulled back. Is this Marta's moment? Big, big chance for

:25:11. > :25:22.Marta. She's going straight for the ball. It's a definite foul. Got away

:25:23. > :25:30.from her and she tripped her up. It's probably a tired tackle. Alves

:25:31. > :25:35.has put herself about right from the very start. She has. I've been

:25:36. > :25:40.impressed, going forward, she's excellent. But she is prepared to

:25:41. > :25:47.put in the hard work as well. Dahlkvist receives a yellow card.

:25:48. > :25:59.Lindahl will want all the angles covered here.

:26:00. > :26:13.The whole of the Maracana in a ferment. Flash bulbs going off all

:26:14. > :26:19.around the stadium. It will be Andressina or Marta. My money's on

:26:20. > :26:20.Marta. Mine too! I don't think she'll let anyone get anywhere near

:26:21. > :26:35.it. The Swedish wall, a very weary

:26:36. > :26:41.Swedish wall, is being dragged back ten yards.

:26:42. > :26:45.We've seen Marta down the years score so many free kicks from this

:26:46. > :27:08.sort of area. If they score now, surely Brazil are

:27:09. > :27:18.in the Gold Medal game. Lynned Lynn saw it all the way. --

:27:19. > :27:22.Lindahl. She was trying to curl it around the wall, but couldn't get

:27:23. > :27:26.enough whip on it. Managed to get it round the wall, but it's quite a

:27:27. > :27:35.standard save for Lindahl in the end. It's got to be better than that

:27:36. > :27:39.to beat a good keeper like her. The sense of anticlimax around the

:27:40. > :27:48.Maracana. Lindahl seemed to clout herself on the wood work as well. So

:27:49. > :27:54.there'll be added time at the end of extra time. Of course, as she's the

:27:55. > :28:03.goalkeeper, the referee can't make her leave the field of play for

:28:04. > :28:11.treatment. Sweden may need her for penalties in a few moments.

:28:12. > :28:21.Especially after her heroics against USA. I wonder if the two coaches are

:28:22. > :28:28.formulating a list of penalty takers? You imagine it would be

:28:29. > :28:31.pretty similar to what we saw in the quarter finals, though, of course,

:28:32. > :28:36.Marta missed her kick against Australia. I think she's a big

:28:37. > :28:41.enough player to step up again and say, "I'll take it." And put it

:28:42. > :28:43.right. Both goalkeepers are very good at penalties as well. It will

:28:44. > :28:53.be interesting to see. There's still time for either side

:28:54. > :29:13.to win this game in open play. Brazil started this game on the

:29:14. > :29:31.attack and that's how they're finishing.

:29:32. > :29:45.They've not got too much wrong throughout the day.

:29:46. > :29:56.Berglund comes on to replace Samuelsson, who's been magnificent.

:29:57. > :30:01.But possibly Berglund isitok a penalty -- is a penalty taker. I was

:30:02. > :30:10.going to say that. Pressure coming on just to take a penalty.

:30:11. > :30:26.Three minutes of added time. Brilliant saved by the goalkeeper to

:30:27. > :30:39.recover! And then cleared away by Seger. It was Lindell's initial

:30:40. > :30:44.error, but she recovered superbly. She looked relieved after that. It

:30:45. > :30:48.was an initial error. As the ball came in, it was a long, lofted ball

:30:49. > :30:52.and she couldn't get any power on it, but what a save. You concede

:30:53. > :31:02.defenders around her, helping her out. Sweden have got a fantastic

:31:03. > :31:03.team work ethic and spirit. Mata must have thought she had won it

:31:04. > :31:27.there. -- Marta. The one final chance for Sweden to

:31:28. > :31:56.provide a sting in the tail here. It is Brazil's throw. We have seen

:31:57. > :32:03.both Marta and Schelin, two of the world's great players, not really

:32:04. > :32:07.feature positively throughout the game as a whole. But someone will be

:32:08. > :32:40.a hero by the end of this game. Schelin will be penalised. Brazil

:32:41. > :33:21.may have one final chance. That should be that. And there is

:33:22. > :33:28.the full-time whistle. Some 90 minutes and extra time could not

:33:29. > :33:32.separate either of these sites. And Brazil and Sweden were both face a

:33:33. > :33:38.penalty shoot out to decide who goes through to the gold medal game. What

:33:39. > :33:42.an interesting game that was. It was attack versus defence at times, Mo

:33:43. > :33:47.Brazil having lots of possession and lots of chances, but just didn't

:33:48. > :33:52.have that quality, whether it is the final cross or the final shot on

:33:53. > :33:56.target. Sweden got their game plan spot on. They made sure it was

:33:57. > :33:59.difficult for Brazil to break them down. They kept the gaps between

:34:00. > :34:04.their defence and midfield tight so Brazil couldn't find them, and

:34:05. > :34:08.created chances for themselves. They probably should have scored. They

:34:09. > :34:12.created the more clear-cut chances, and it has gone to a penalty shoot

:34:13. > :34:16.out. Of course, we saw Marta miss a penalty in Brazil as Mike win

:34:17. > :34:21.against Australia in the quarterfinals. But as you said,

:34:22. > :34:25.surely she will step up again. She will. She is a big player. She's

:34:26. > :34:31.used to the big occasions and without a doubt, I am sure she will

:34:32. > :34:34.take a penalty. The best players miss penalties, but it is how they

:34:35. > :34:40.respond to that. I think she will be confident enough to step up. Sweden.

:34:41. > :34:49.With all sorts of mind games and other antics during their shoot out

:34:50. > :34:58.win against the US. They did. I think it was dark list with the

:34:59. > :35:01.final penalty. -- Dahlkvist. The American tried to put her off, and

:35:02. > :35:06.she just laughed and scored the penalty. So I think mentally, Sweden

:35:07. > :35:09.are very tough. They are used to these sorts of situations. But you

:35:10. > :35:15.just can't call penalty shoot outs. It is such a difficult one. Doesn't

:35:16. > :35:20.matter who has played well in the game, it's a lottery. Well, Pia

:35:21. > :35:25.Sundhage lost a World Cup final on a penalty shoot out when she was in

:35:26. > :35:29.charge of the USA against Japan. So she has seen both sides. It is such

:35:30. > :35:34.an awful way to go out. You have played 90 minutes and extra time,

:35:35. > :35:37.and it comes down to who can hold their nerve. It doesn't matter if

:35:38. > :35:42.you are the best player in the world, they miss penalties. It is

:35:43. > :35:45.just on the day. If the goalkeeper dives the right way, I know they

:35:46. > :35:49.have got all the analysis now when they look back and see what players

:35:50. > :35:56.take penalties and what awaits the they go, so they guessed before the

:35:57. > :36:00.penalty taker has even stood up. We saw a shot of Barbara, the Brazilian

:36:01. > :36:04.goalkeeper. She had very little to do throughout the whole game. And

:36:05. > :36:09.now she has to be absolutely focused. I think goalkeepers love

:36:10. > :36:14.this situation. They love being the hero. If they let a penalty in, that

:36:15. > :36:21.is expected. If they save one, they are the hero of the game. They will

:36:22. > :36:25.be looking forward to this. When you speak to goalkeepers, this is what

:36:26. > :36:30.they love. It is pressure for the player taking the penalty, but the

:36:31. > :36:35.goalkeeper loves it. Well, Vadao, the Brazilian coach, was there with

:36:36. > :36:44.his team. And Marta was part of the conversation as well. And Pia

:36:45. > :36:51.Sundhage is in the midst of that huddle. Have you been in this sort

:36:52. > :36:56.of situation? Not for England, but for club level. It is a difficult

:36:57. > :37:00.situation because as a player, you have do want to take the penalty.

:37:01. > :37:04.But all said, the manager had to have confidence in you. I am sure

:37:05. > :37:07.they will have practised penalties in the build-up to this tournament

:37:08. > :37:12.and throughout the tournament. So they will know who their penalty

:37:13. > :37:18.takers are. You have just got to feel it on the day as a player.

:37:19. > :37:31.Well, neither of these nations have won an Olympic gold medal in women's

:37:32. > :37:35.football, so the stakes are so high. Lindahl made one good save at the

:37:36. > :37:41.end to deny Marta. And while her team soaked up so much pressure

:37:42. > :37:46.throughout the game, she wasn't really tested as much as she should

:37:47. > :37:52.have been. She was a sweeper keeper, if you like. So when the long balls

:37:53. > :37:56.were coming in, she was there and in the right place at the right time.

:37:57. > :38:00.When she was needed to pull off that excellent save, yes, she probably

:38:01. > :38:04.made a mess of the initial clearance, but she was there with an

:38:05. > :38:08.excellent save. You could see the amount of defenders around, helping

:38:09. > :38:17.her out. They have such a good work ethic, Sweden. They are a team who

:38:18. > :38:20.didn't really impress in the group stage, but winning a tournament is

:38:21. > :38:27.often about picking at the right time. And they, like Brazil, are now

:38:28. > :38:32.a penalty shoot out away from the gold medal game on Friday. And for

:38:33. > :38:40.the third time in the afternoon, Marta and Schelin meet to toss the

:38:41. > :38:44.coin. I don't think it really matters which end they shoot too,

:38:45. > :38:54.there will be Brazilians behind every goal! That was nice. Neither

:38:55. > :38:56.of those great players has an Olympic medal, and this may be their

:38:57. > :39:13.final chance. So Hedvig Lindahl off Chelsea, and

:39:14. > :39:22.Barbara, the Brazilian goalkeeper Matt who doesn't have a club

:39:23. > :39:43.currently, either of those could be the heroine in the next ten minutes.

:39:44. > :39:49.After no penalty shoot outs in 20 years, of Olympic women's football,

:39:50. > :40:14.we now have our third inside a week. The referee is making it very clear,

:40:15. > :40:21.stay on your line. I think there was a bit of controversy over Barbara in

:40:22. > :40:25.the last penalty shoot out. She was on the edge of the six yard box for

:40:26. > :40:31.one of them! I was trying to be nice! It looks like Brazil will take

:40:32. > :40:44.the first penalty. And it is you know who. Well, she missed against

:40:45. > :40:58.Australia. What will Marta doing here today?

:40:59. > :41:11.The first penalty, and Marta just about scores. You can see what it

:41:12. > :41:15.means. What a player, to step up. First penalty. It was quite poor, to

:41:16. > :41:22.be honest. Lindahl had her hand to it. It was probably just enough in

:41:23. > :41:25.the corner. Lindahl will be disappointed that she couldn't push

:41:26. > :41:30.that around the post. But to step up, it shows what a person she is.

:41:31. > :41:41.That was Marta's Stuart Pearce moment. Now, another legend, Lotta

:41:42. > :41:47.Schelin. Against Barbara. That is a terrific penalty, to silence the

:41:48. > :41:56.Maracana. Now, that's how to take a penalty. Absolute confidence. Top

:41:57. > :42:01.corner. Goalkeeper had no chance. Dive to the right way. So Marta and

:42:02. > :42:20.Schelin both score. It is Christie and, who came on

:42:21. > :42:34.during extra time -- Cristiane, a very experienced striker. And

:42:35. > :42:39.Lindahl says! -- slaves. You can sense the noise being sucked out of

:42:40. > :42:43.the Maracana. She gets the right way, Lindahl. I was speaking about

:42:44. > :42:47.Christianity why she was not coming on. She didn't do well when she came

:42:48. > :43:02.on. I don't think she was very confident. And that penalty just

:43:03. > :43:05.showed that. Very weak. Kosovare Asliani can now consolidate Sweden's

:43:06. > :43:17.lead in the penalty shoot out, or potential lead. The Chelsea

:43:18. > :43:33.goalkeeper saved. Now it is the Manchester City forward. And Barbara

:43:34. > :43:35.saves as well! Sweden's chance to go ahead, and again, the goalkeeper

:43:36. > :43:47.gets the right way. We'd penalty, though. -- a week penalty. So it's

:43:48. > :43:55.as you were. Andressa Alves of Barcelona, with the third penalty

:43:56. > :44:08.for Brazil. Scored twice against Sweden in the group stage, but this

:44:09. > :44:17.is a very different occasion. Terrific penalty. She has had a good

:44:18. > :44:23.game, deserve that. Right in the corner, didn't give Lindahl any

:44:24. > :44:32.chance. She seemed very confident going up to the ball as well.

:44:33. > :44:33.Actually, that wasn't that far away, looking at it from a different

:44:34. > :44:53.angle. Relief for Vadao for now. Seger, another one of Sweden's

:44:54. > :44:57.really big players. That's epitomised by the way she took that

:44:58. > :45:09.penalty. She's a real leader. Excellent today, worked so, so hard.

:45:10. > :45:19.Just passed it into the net. So 2-2 with two penalties each to come.

:45:20. > :45:29.Here is Rafaelle. She's one of the central defenders.

:45:30. > :45:34.This, the penultimate penalty for Brazil. It's another very good

:45:35. > :45:39.penalty. Very good penalty. Yeah, I don't

:45:40. > :45:46.think Lindahl could do anything about that one.

:45:47. > :45:49.Right in the corner. Again the goalkeepers are guessing the right

:45:50. > :45:53.way. If it's in the corner like that, with enough power, you don't

:45:54. > :46:03.have any chance. There's real pressure on Sweden now,

:46:04. > :46:08.because Nila Fischer is being sent forward for their fourth penalty.

:46:09. > :46:23.If she doesn't score, Brazil will have a shot to win it.

:46:24. > :46:30.And once again, the experienced players have been nerveless. They

:46:31. > :46:34.really have. They've stepped up. That was actually a really good run

:46:35. > :46:38.up. It was very straight and didn't show which way she was going.

:46:39. > :46:43.Sometimes you can see if the player's body opens up it's easier

:46:44. > :46:53.for a goalkeeper to guess. This is effectively sudden death.

:46:54. > :46:59.One penalty each to come. It's the youngster, Andressina, 21 years of

:47:00. > :47:07.age. What a moment for her. Lindahl

:47:08. > :47:18.saves! And Sweden are one penalty away. You've got to feel sorry for

:47:19. > :47:21.her. She's the new Marta, but again, I spoke about your body position,

:47:22. > :47:31.that position was saying she was going that way. Good save from

:47:32. > :47:38.Lindahl. Good, solid punch away. Well, there'll be tears. The tears

:47:39. > :47:40.have already started. There'll be tears of joy for Sweden if this one

:47:41. > :47:52.goes in. Can Barbara save Brazil? Lisa

:47:53. > :48:02.Dahlkvist scored the winning penalty against the United States. She can

:48:03. > :48:09.put Sweden in the final here. And she's done it! Sweden are into the

:48:10. > :48:16.final. Brazil's quest for Olympic gold is over. And the nation who are

:48:17. > :48:22.only here because Great Britain failed to compete are into the

:48:23. > :48:25.Olympic final. Dahlkvist, cool, calm, collected. You spoke about the

:48:26. > :48:32.experienced players. They've stepped up and done exactly what they needed

:48:33. > :48:39.to do. That again is another tough, tough time to take that penalty. Did

:48:40. > :48:41.it against Hope Solo. She's done it again. You've got to feel for the

:48:42. > :48:45.Brazilian players. It's heart breaking for them. Obviously the

:48:46. > :48:52.Swedish players, you can see the difference in both the camps. The

:48:53. > :48:57.wild cards may be going all the way. But there is despair for Marta and

:48:58. > :49:07.Brazil. Sweden are into the Olympic final. They've beaten Brazil 4-3 on

:49:08. > :49:12.penalties. STUDIO: What a story for Nigel and

:49:13. > :49:15.Sue to describe. Look at the face of the Brazilians, trying to be

:49:16. > :49:20.consoled after missing that crucial penalty. Sweden, we saw them the

:49:21. > :49:24.other day on BBC Four, get the better of USA from the spot and

:49:25. > :49:29.remember, after that game, Hope Solo said the Swedes were cowards. But

:49:30. > :49:34.they went into the semifinals. They took on the hosts, Brazil. It's

:49:35. > :49:37.worth reiterating, as Nigel and Sue were saying, that really in Brazil,

:49:38. > :49:42.there have been a few moments which have really captured the imagination

:49:43. > :49:45.in these Olympic Games, the judo gold, the pole vault gold, but it's

:49:46. > :49:54.all about the football. Football is king here by some distance.

:49:55. > :49:59.Brazilian Willoughby not be in the Gold Medal match in the Maracana on

:50:00. > :50:03.Friday. Sweden go through. They'll face either Canada or Germany. We'll

:50:04. > :50:11.tell you about that second semifinal later on. The big story here in Rio,

:50:12. > :50:15.on day 11 of the Games, is that penalty has sent Sweden through to

:50:16. > :50:22.the Gold Medal match. Brazil are out. We'll bring you up to date with

:50:23. > :50:26.everything. Give you some headlines, some news, some details of exactly

:50:27. > :50:31.what's happening down here on Copacabana beach. Now we have some

:50:32. > :50:37.drama at the sailing. Shirley Robertson is watching. We've had a

:50:38. > :50:41.gold today. Is the drama for Giles Scott are we talking about the 470

:50:42. > :50:49.race for the women? We're on the 470 women's course. Great Britain's

:50:50. > :50:53.Hannah Mills and Clarke have gone round their first mark. They're in

:50:54. > :50:57.third spot. Their rivals are behind them. If they hold that position, in

:50:58. > :51:03.25 minutes they could well have won gold. Very exciting and we're dying

:51:04. > :51:09.to follow the action. We knew that Giles Scott was guaranteed the gold

:51:10. > :51:14.today. But it's worth putting into context the expectation in that

:51:15. > :51:17.class as well. Because this is a four-time gold for Ben Ainslie and

:51:18. > :51:21.Giles came here with all the knowledge of that obviously and all

:51:22. > :51:26.the expectation on his shoulders. He's delivered when he needed. To It

:51:27. > :51:30.must be a weird kind of stress, when everyone just assumes you're going

:51:31. > :51:34.to, but you still have to. It's a real cred tote Giles. He wasn't

:51:35. > :51:38.selected for the one spot in Weymouth. Sir Ben Ainslie got that

:51:39. > :51:44.spot. He was ready to win then. So it's been a long time coming for

:51:45. > :51:49.him. He's an amazing athlete. He's a real gentleman. He has won

:51:50. > :51:54.everything since. The sense of relief when it was finally his is

:51:55. > :51:58.immense. It was a real special moment when he finally crossed that

:51:59. > :52:04.line. Hopefully, we've got another gold coming up. We height have to

:52:05. > :52:07.call it "doing a Giles" when you win so convincingly you don't even have

:52:08. > :52:10.to do the last race. You know you've done well when you start naming

:52:11. > :52:15.something after you. One more as well, in terms of the regatta

:52:16. > :52:22.overall, I know you say could be more success, how would you judge it

:52:23. > :52:26.from a Team GB perspective? Well, we have Nick domecy's silver, Giles's

:52:27. > :52:29.gold here. I don't think there will be much more coming, but

:52:30. > :52:35.opportunities later in the week. Pretty good, I'd say. They hoped for

:52:36. > :52:38.four medals. To come away with two golds and a silver, they'll be

:52:39. > :52:41.chuffed. This has been a phenomenally difficult sailing

:52:42. > :52:46.venue, so many variables. The track is continually moving. I think only

:52:47. > :52:50.the real best of the best have managed to deal with that, both

:52:51. > :52:54.mentally and tactically. Shirley, people are watching at home on BBC

:52:55. > :52:58.Four, before we let you go, what's the time table for the 470 races?

:52:59. > :53:02.What times and races should we look out for this evening? Well, it's

:53:03. > :53:07.happening right now. This is their final fleet race. It's not being

:53:08. > :53:10.filmed by the Olympic broadcasters, but we are going to do our best to

:53:11. > :53:16.keep you updated. Keep coming back to me. OK. That is an invitation we

:53:17. > :53:22.cannot resist. Thank you very much. It's not being covered by the

:53:23. > :53:26.Olympic cameras, but Shirley is on the water round the corner. We'll

:53:27. > :53:30.keep you posted on whether the 470 women can follow in Giles Scott's

:53:31. > :53:35.foot steps, or his boat, I suppose! And manage to do the business and

:53:36. > :53:47.bring home a Gold Medal. Day 11, gold for Giles Scott. Let's bring

:53:48. > :53:51.you the rest of the headlines: In gymnastic, Amy Tinkler has won a

:53:52. > :53:56.surprise bronze in the floor final. Her first individual Olympic final.

:53:57. > :54:03.Simone Biles of the USA took the gold. Just been talking about it

:54:04. > :54:06.with Shirley. He knew it was guaranteed. After this evening's

:54:07. > :54:12.medal race, it was confirmed, Giles Scott has taken gold in the Finn

:54:13. > :54:17.Class here in Rio. We've been watching it, drama in the

:54:18. > :54:20.Maracana, in the women's football, Sweden are through to the Gold Medal

:54:21. > :54:24.match. They won a penalty shootout a few moments ago. Germany and Canada

:54:25. > :54:32.are involved in a second semifinal very shortly.

:54:33. > :54:38.And in today's early session in the athletics, Great Britain's holly

:54:39. > :54:42.Bradstock has qualified -- Holly Bradshaw has qualified for the final

:54:43. > :54:47.in the pole vault. If that can match anywhere near the

:54:48. > :54:49.drama of the men's pole vault competition yesterday, we're in for

:54:50. > :54:54.something rather special. Right, thank you for joining us on BBC

:54:55. > :54:58.Four. Thank you to - oh, a pigeon walking through the set. Hello young

:54:59. > :55:03.man. Sorry, you can't see that. But it's nice to have a bit of live bird

:55:04. > :55:09.based action. Can we see the pigeon? Just down there.

:55:10. > :55:13.#12k34r there he is. Two! A brace of pigeons. Live on BBC Four. There you

:55:14. > :55:18.go. Sorry got distracted by the pigeons. Any way, we're live on BBC

:55:19. > :55:19.Four, plenty more to come in the next few hours, including all of

:55:20. > :55:28.this. We shall be live at the beach

:55:29. > :55:31.volleyball shortly. It's the semifinal stage in the men's and

:55:32. > :55:35.women's competition. There are Brazilian favourites in both

:55:36. > :55:42.matches. It will be bonkers at the other end of Copacabana. Later on,

:55:43. > :55:47.we're off to the diving. Can Great Britain's Jack Lauher get a second

:55:48. > :55:53.Gold Medal? He goes in the three metre spring board final. There's

:55:54. > :56:07.been controversy in the ring today. Top quality boxing later. Great

:56:08. > :56:09.Britain's Joshua Buatsi is boxing. Let's show you exactly how the time

:56:10. > :57:24.table pans out: When we finish with the diving we

:57:25. > :57:33.will bring you the Joshua Buatsi fight as well.

:57:34. > :57:42.This is what's on where at the moment: the men's horizontal bar

:57:43. > :57:46.final is over on BBC One. Britain's Niall Wilson has qualified for this,

:57:47. > :57:50.the first British man to qualify for the horizontal bar final. That's

:57:51. > :57:55.over on BBC One right now. It has been an incredible gymnastics

:57:56. > :57:59.competition for Team GB. Just a reminder, on the red button, can you

:58:00. > :58:05.see all the boxing live as well. We've got a miniature crowd here.

:58:06. > :58:08.There they are. Give us a wave down the camera, you're live on the BBC.

:58:09. > :58:12.There they are. Look at that. They're enjoying themselves. Do you

:58:13. > :58:15.like beach volleyball? Yeah. You do. It's a good job. Here's a guide to

:58:16. > :58:24.the sport that we've been loving on BBC Four.

:58:25. > :58:31.Beach volleyball made its Olympic debut in Atlanta in 1996. In the 20

:58:32. > :58:35.years since the United States and Brazil have dominated the sport.

:58:36. > :58:40.Matches take place outdoors on a sand court, 16 metres long and eight

:58:41. > :58:43.metres wide. There are only two members of the beach volleyball team

:58:44. > :58:47.and substitutions are not allowed. The object of the game is to hit the

:58:48. > :58:51.ball over the net, trying to land it in the opponents' side of the court.

:58:52. > :58:54.To keep a ball in play, a team can hit it up to three times on their

:58:55. > :58:58.side of the court, before it must be returned. Every point played in

:58:59. > :59:02.beach volleyball scores one point and matches are the best of three

:59:03. > :59:06.sets. The first two sets are played to 21 points. If a third is

:59:07. > :59:11.required, the winner of this set is the first team to reach 15, however

:59:12. > :59:15.a team must always win a set by at least two points. There are many

:59:16. > :59:19.different shots in beach volleyball. A bump pass is a shot using the

:59:20. > :59:22.forearms with hands together to direct the ball. It's used to set

:59:23. > :59:27.the ball for another player to play an attacking shot. A dig is where

:59:28. > :59:31.the ball is saved with any part of the body, but normally using the

:59:32. > :59:35.arms and hands. A spike is where a player jumps and strikes the ball

:59:36. > :59:39.with one hand as an attacking hit. A dink is played just over the net or

:59:40. > :59:43.blockers hand instead of spiking. It's legal as long as the player

:59:44. > :59:47.does it with closed fingers. The preliminary phase sees teams compete

:59:48. > :59:50.in pools, with the top teams from each pool advancing to the knockout

:59:51. > :59:54.phases in their quest for Olympic Medals.

:59:55. > :59:58.We'll be showing you plenty of that on BBC Four. We're there in a

:59:59. > :00:02.moment. Lots of you at home don't believe that we're live in Rio and

:00:03. > :00:07.on Copacabana. These four are all the way from Guernsey to enjoy the

:00:08. > :00:12.Olympics. Good afternoon. Hi. Run us through your names James. Tim.

:00:13. > :00:17.Jackie. Hugh. Have you watched much of the Olympics so far? Quite a lot.

:00:18. > :00:22.What's the highlight? Pole vault, tennis. Andy Murray was fantastic.

:00:23. > :00:26.Last night we were in the saidup for the pole vault, when Brazil won

:00:27. > :00:27.gold. That was amazing. Obviously, you add to that list now being live

:00:28. > :00:43.on BBC Four? Oh, yeah. Love the bit Glyndwr on Coco

:00:44. > :00:47.Vandeweghe the Google cabana Beach, can you confirm for the BBC for

:00:48. > :00:57.audience, look down the camera. And so it is Google cabana. It is Google

:00:58. > :01:02.Bonner and it's brilliant. We will have no more of this rubbish. Thank

:01:03. > :01:05.you. Enjoy the rest of the Olympics. Now we will go live to the beach

:01:06. > :01:12.volleyball. Write down the other end of the beach. This is the Brazilian

:01:13. > :01:21.top seeds, Larissa and Talita taking on a Laura Ludwig and Keira Valcke

:01:22. > :01:25.Horst -- Keira Walkenhorst. They came from a set down last game, it

:01:26. > :01:29.was incredible and assured we'll build gently for you live on BBC

:01:30. > :01:47.Four. Let's join in the first set with Charlie Broome.

:01:48. > :01:54.COMMENTATOR: For someone so experienced, I can

:01:55. > :01:59.only assume she was looking for a touch because it was at least 30

:02:00. > :02:05.centimetres out of play. I agree, you know when you make contact as a

:02:06. > :02:09.player if that ball is clean contact, you've done that ball so

:02:10. > :02:13.many times, lots of times you have a good feeling or if that was in or

:02:14. > :02:18.out and as long as it was, my guess is that she was hoping for a touch.

:02:19. > :02:24.For such an experienced pair it is an inexperienced coal. That is one

:02:25. > :02:29.concern you have for Brazil, can they deal with the pressure? Apsley,

:02:30. > :02:34.that has always been a question once the Olympics were named to be in Rio

:02:35. > :02:41.the beach volleyball kind of went, wow, this is not only is Brazil

:02:42. > :02:45.known for volleyball and beach volleyball, but how well can they

:02:46. > :02:50.handle the weight of the pressure of it being in their backyard? If you

:02:51. > :02:58.didn't join us for the quarterfinals the other day, the Brazilian pair

:02:59. > :03:03.were made to work very hard against the Swiss number 17 seeds, they

:03:04. > :03:08.saved three match points, how they saved the third I haven't worked

:03:09. > :03:14.out. It one of the most memorable that -- matches of beach volleyball.

:03:15. > :03:21.We will be very lucky if this one reaches those sorts of heights.

:03:22. > :03:29.Switzerland put the pressure on Larissa and Talita in a quarterfinal

:03:30. > :03:33.match. No question, they survived in advance, but with the help of the

:03:34. > :03:43.Passion of the 12,000 that were there in attendance. Ludwig, lovely

:03:44. > :03:46.touch from her. One of the aspects you will find other sites which goes

:03:47. > :03:51.on, if you are not up to speed, sites which every seven points, we

:03:52. > :03:56.have a technical time-out when the total points reach 21 in the first

:03:57. > :04:00.and second set and there is one time-out per team which they use to

:04:01. > :04:05.take the wind out of the opponents sales. If they go on that will call

:04:06. > :04:16.timer and all the momentum swings their way. -- time-out and hope. The

:04:17. > :04:27.pass gives the advantage to Brazil. Talita makes no mistake. Both sides

:04:28. > :04:32.are technically so well-trained that this, Walkenhorst was desperately

:04:33. > :04:36.extended on that, but not an oversight type of play that you want

:04:37. > :04:41.to see in a semifinal match. Things like that will cost you much more

:04:42. > :04:53.against a team like Larissa and Talita. The key here for Germany is

:04:54. > :04:55.to try and keep the crowd quiet, the Swiss did it in the quarterfinal and

:04:56. > :05:12.it's nearly came off for them. What are put away by Talita. That is

:05:13. > :05:16.the type of setting we are used to seeing from Keira Walkenhorst but

:05:17. > :05:36.Talita scoops and delivers. Walkenhorst put away the Spike and

:05:37. > :05:39.the early tactic from Brazil is to serve to the Germany number one,

:05:40. > :06:01.Walkenhorst. Talita being asked to do a lot of

:06:02. > :06:10.spiking, and so far she is operating at 50%. Six spikes, three points.

:06:11. > :06:15.The first miss coming early on because she's been lasted -- been

:06:16. > :06:19.good in the last couple of points. They have two is served of

:06:20. > :06:23.Walkenhorst, so you can tell their strategy is to pick on her right

:06:24. > :06:31.away and see if they can somehow extend a gap early on as we exchange

:06:32. > :06:36.points back and forth. Larissa and Talita strategically setting up an

:06:37. > :06:46.angle blog on her and going after her consistently. Find the line.

:06:47. > :06:56.Discussing the challenge, but having just Brown won early on it would be

:06:57. > :07:09.ill-advised to challenge that. What a great ball by Walkenhorst, finding

:07:10. > :07:17.the backline. Again, Talita puts away the Spike. I wonder how much

:07:18. > :07:22.longer they will persevere with the serving to the Brazil number two.

:07:23. > :07:30.Great ball by Talita the goal crossbody. That is an aspect of

:07:31. > :07:36.Ludwig's play, not afraid to put the ball over second touch or even first

:07:37. > :07:38.touch if the situation needs it. When it presents itself, the Germans

:07:39. > :07:45.are looking to score very quickly whether it is an Laura Ludwig's on

:07:46. > :07:49.one or signature play of hers or if it is on to, they know that they

:07:50. > :08:00.want to put the ball to the sand as quickly as possible. One thing about

:08:01. > :08:04.Talita is she pulls the trigger and then continues to rise, it is almost

:08:05. > :08:10.as if she has a second booster that jump. She swings and there is almost

:08:11. > :08:18.a bit of rise that happens after that creating such difficult angles

:08:19. > :08:23.to defend. The dig from Larissa and she puts away the crosscourt, it is

:08:24. > :08:34.Germany that are under pressure early on in the semifinal. Larissa

:08:35. > :08:38.is so tough because her vision is extraordinary. It is like she has a

:08:39. > :08:42.thousand eyes rather than just two in her head. She can seesaw much of

:08:43. > :08:52.the court and find a way to put it where the aunt. Can see so much.

:08:53. > :09:00.Where they can't. We are two points away from a technical time-out.

:09:01. > :09:03.Walkenhorst Prydie taped up -- is pretty taped up. She has been quite

:09:04. > :09:10.banged up in this qualification process. Finally gets the reward for

:09:11. > :09:19.going at Larissa, sorry, Talita, the entire time. That one dying on her.

:09:20. > :09:33.The bottom fell off of that serve, that is extremely difficult to

:09:34. > :09:37.return. Great dig. And it was there for Walkenhorst but just got

:09:38. > :09:41.disorientated and did not apply the pressure. They got lucky, Germany,

:09:42. > :09:46.because the Spike from Talita hit the net and it took the power off,

:09:47. > :09:53.allowing Ludwig to keep the ball alive. Technical time-out, Brazil

:09:54. > :09:58.lead 11-10. It is as close as we thought it would be. No question. It

:09:59. > :10:05.seemed that Walkenhorst tried to be a little bit to shop with the ball,

:10:06. > :10:10.even though Ludwig had a great bid on it, once she gets in a defensive

:10:11. > :10:14.rhythm it will be a heck of a matchup between her and Larissa.

:10:15. > :10:20.Ludwig was the best offence of player in 2013, but Larissa has

:10:21. > :10:28.taken that title home three times and their defensive styles are very

:10:29. > :10:35.different, yet they get so many balls up it is difficult for the

:10:36. > :10:41.attackers to get any momentum rhythm going. As you can see from there,

:10:42. > :10:52.the matches until it both sides have just lost one set. One will lose to

:10:53. > :11:11.today. Off the block, it will go to Germany.

:11:12. > :11:27.What is happening is both sides have put so much pressure on one another

:11:28. > :11:35.with their serving that these passes are taking on a tight backspin and

:11:36. > :11:43.what I get by Ludwig, crazy backspin and peeling of the net. Advantage

:11:44. > :11:53.with Brazil in this point and they finally take it. But not for lack of

:11:54. > :11:56.trying by Laura Ludwig. I cannot believe she salvaged that case to

:11:57. > :12:08.begin with. Barely getting under that one. And this is what makes

:12:09. > :12:17.Larissa so good. Her transition play is unlike anyone else. Here she is

:12:18. > :12:23.with the serve. Ludwig tries to cut it but cannot get it past the net.

:12:24. > :12:29.And now it is advantage to Brazil. They will not want this gap to grow

:12:30. > :12:34.any larger. Germany have called a time-out.

:12:35. > :12:42.Look at that for a view. It is absolutely magnificent, and as the

:12:43. > :12:51.crowds start to fill in it will be absolutely jumping. It is a

:12:52. > :12:58.spectacular stadium. 12,000 and, as you said, it will get bumping soon.

:12:59. > :13:05.They will be pretty happy with the way things have started here.

:13:06. > :13:09.Larissa and Talita. They are much more in control of this one than

:13:10. > :13:16.they were against the Swiss pair in the quarterfinals, they were behind

:13:17. > :13:19.the technical time-out all the way through and they never really

:13:20. > :13:21.recovered from that in the first set, and they squeaked the second

:13:22. > :13:45.set. It was desperately close. Good work from Ludwig. I wouldn't be

:13:46. > :13:49.surprised if we see some unforced errors like we did with the ball

:13:50. > :13:55.just before Ludwig makes the correction here. Because you have

:13:56. > :13:59.such good defenders in the back what you want to avoid it and next thing

:14:00. > :14:05.you know you are squeezing yourself and you run out of court. Well, the

:14:06. > :14:08.time-out seems to have worked because they've won the next two

:14:09. > :14:16.points and, more importantly, it is the first block in a while for

:14:17. > :14:21.Walkenhorst. What a great adjustment at the end. Not only she goes up but

:14:22. > :14:28.then she finishes the ball back into the court so she isn't a target.

:14:29. > :14:37.That is a great dig from Larissa. The net is moving but it has gone to

:14:38. > :14:42.Germany, they've levelled it up at 14-14. You wouldn't think it would

:14:43. > :14:46.make such a difference but the blockage is moving their arms for

:14:47. > :14:51.allows them to control the ball, if the Amess stationary the ball camera

:14:52. > :14:54.to share anywhere. Exactly, and they want to have contact with their

:14:55. > :14:59.hands, you have more control of your hands than a ball off an elbow. It

:15:00. > :15:05.is imperative for these hands to get over the net and then you have more

:15:06. > :15:10.play. She almost comes up with a little play there Walkenhorst, makes

:15:11. > :15:17.the block and tries to keep it alive. Let's have another look. When

:15:18. > :15:20.you get contact with the hands, bloggers try to either cut it up for

:15:21. > :15:32.the defender or themselves in order to allow two more contacts.

:15:33. > :15:44.I think we have a challenge here. He made his decision.

:15:45. > :15:52.They burned that first challenge so early, they've got one more left and

:15:53. > :16:01.we're halfway through the first set. They have to use it wisely.

:16:02. > :16:21.That is nice work. Not only did she clear the sizeable block of Walken

:16:22. > :16:28.is, Talita, that is such a precise shot by her.

:16:29. > :16:37.That is a nice spike from Walkenhorst. Opening the hand a bit

:16:38. > :16:46.and cutting it down the side, but not a great deal to aim for down the

:16:47. > :16:54.line. She controlled it nicely. Great wrist away, controlling that

:16:55. > :16:58.dumbed down without doing it is the key. Once the attacker makes contact

:16:59. > :17:03.with the ball, if they can finish with their thumb down it will give

:17:04. > :17:15.just enough side spin. What we see here is Talita going thumb up and

:17:16. > :17:20.that will ramp the ball one way or the other, giving it just enough

:17:21. > :17:29.spin. Even if the defender is that, if that's enough spin on it to make

:17:30. > :17:34.it more difficult to receive. Well, the Brazilians have called a

:17:35. > :17:42.time-out. Germany cold a time-out when the score was 11-14 and they

:17:43. > :17:50.are now leaving 17-16. A 6-2 swing since that time out. This game is

:17:51. > :17:58.definitely played point by point, side-by-side. If you can win each

:17:59. > :18:03.side 4-3, you will win the match, clearly, but if you can somehow get

:18:04. > :18:07.a bonus ball in their, you're setting yourself up for more success

:18:08. > :18:15.later down the road when it does get tight and the pressure does build.

:18:16. > :18:20.That is happening right now, the business end of the first bed,

:18:21. > :18:33.Walkenhorst to serve. Germany leading 17-16 in a race to 21. Oh!

:18:34. > :18:38.Good dig from Ludwick, can she finish off? You bet she can. --

:18:39. > :18:42.Ludwig. That is the transition blocking we've been talking about

:18:43. > :18:49.from Germany. Dad looks like a challenge from Brazil, was it for a

:18:50. > :18:53.net touch? I believe so but they are giving themselves such aggressive

:18:54. > :19:00.sets that Germany is coming in full blast. It looks to me like she

:19:01. > :19:06.avoids it. It is hoped rather than expectation from Brazil. And they've

:19:07. > :19:12.been rattled, certainly with their challenges, they've been poor

:19:13. > :19:16.challenges. I couldn't agree more. That is a freebie. That is a

:19:17. > :19:23.freebie, you've got to make your opponents play at this stage of the

:19:24. > :19:30.set. A lot of the time, serving and blogging go hand-in-hand, those two

:19:31. > :19:35.skills, one sets up the other. If you can set up trouble with your

:19:36. > :19:40.serve, it sets up your entire defensive schemes. Oh! Everyone is

:19:41. > :19:47.that it! That is a gimme and now Germany just required two side outs

:19:48. > :20:00.to take the opening set. It is a game of pressure management. That is

:20:01. > :20:04.a good half block from Walkenhorst! It is brilliant. What they have been

:20:05. > :20:09.doing, which is why you don't want to get too caught up in the fact

:20:10. > :20:15.that Walkenhorst missed her serve long, that's exactly what they're

:20:16. > :20:20.trying to do, back Talita up. Make a attack a ball from a set coming over

:20:21. > :20:28.her head, in order for Walkenhorst to tie it up exactly as it did.

:20:29. > :20:32.Three set points, the first on the Ludwig serve. What they get! Oh!

:20:33. > :20:40.It's hit the line! They are going to challenge that. They are challenging

:20:41. > :20:48.that. It's close. To me, that got it. The thing is, any part of the

:20:49. > :21:00.ball has to touch the line. It can't be the splash of the sand. We can

:21:01. > :21:05.see from here... Maybe that is wide. Yeah, that's going to be

:21:06. > :21:13.unsuccessful. But what a stab by Ludwig. There it is! Oh no, the most

:21:14. > :21:19.experienced player on the park sends her serve long and Germany take the

:21:20. > :21:25.first set. What a result that is. From 11-14 down, they have turned

:21:26. > :21:31.this around. Even though Ludwig did not get that ball income it created

:21:32. > :21:36.a pressure because then Brazil feel they have to be extra sharp, they

:21:37. > :21:38.have to be extra good, rather than just point by point staying within

:21:39. > :22:25.their realm of execution. Well, these are the stats from the

:22:26. > :22:31.first set. A better conversion rates, 13 from 20, then 11 from 24.

:22:32. > :22:39.Absolutely, Walkenhorst has locked in two blocks as opposed to Talita's

:22:40. > :22:44.zero at the moment. So here we go, set number two. Germany, the number

:22:45. > :22:49.four seeds, a set to the good against the number one seeds. Talita

:22:50. > :22:54.and Larissa of Brazil are themselves under pressure again for the second

:22:55. > :22:58.successive match. They don't themselves out of a very deep hole

:22:59. > :23:14.in the quarterfinals. It's not quite as deep yet, but it could be.

:23:15. > :23:24.Brazil Hang tough in the point. They are having to work desperately hard

:23:25. > :23:35.just to stay on level terms. Absolutely. Talita going to the

:23:36. > :23:41.knuckle. She did not feel comfortable taking that with her

:23:42. > :23:48.hand as Ludwig gets a really good read on it. Larissa misses on the

:23:49. > :23:59.diagonal. They are not going to burn another one, are they? Larissa is

:24:00. > :24:09.eight times the best setter in the world. She holds a very high

:24:10. > :24:20.standard of our opponents when they use the setting skill. A number of

:24:21. > :24:33.service bolts have come from that end, from right to left.

:24:34. > :24:41.That is good improvisation because the set was way too close to the

:24:42. > :24:46.net. Kira Walkenhorst is so physical. She jumps well, she has a

:24:47. > :24:51.heavy arm, she has great vision, but when you get a physical player who

:24:52. > :24:54.can absolutely hammered the ball and then she completely changes and is

:24:55. > :25:07.able to place it down precisely, it is devastating.

:25:08. > :25:20.Outrageous from Ludwig. It gets a touch on the way past. They are

:25:21. > :25:25.dovetailing brilliantly right now. Ludwig has come in so aggressively.

:25:26. > :25:37.Every time she has got a dig, she's looking to swing. Great reactions

:25:38. > :25:45.from the big when she wins a point. She gets really involved. -- from

:25:46. > :25:52.Ludwig. What a hand, to be able to keep our harm and know that she has

:25:53. > :25:57.the precision to avoid Talita and put it just out of the reach of

:25:58. > :26:03.Larissa. Her confidence is growing quickly. These two arguably the best

:26:04. > :26:20.two pairs on the circuit at the moment. Lovely little poke and she

:26:21. > :26:23.is there again. She is on fire! As a defender, when you get into a rhythm

:26:24. > :26:31.and you start getting into a flow, it's almost as if the brain goes

:26:32. > :26:35.off. They realise the second set could be getting away from them as

:26:36. > :26:42.early as exciting to, they have gone for a time-out. There's another one

:26:43. > :26:46.of those spectacular reactions. Ludwig is just in the flow,

:26:47. > :27:09.thrusting her instincts and going. In the last six matches, Brazil have

:27:10. > :27:15.had two wins. Compare it to the Germans and they have had five wins.

:27:16. > :27:20.These two are at the very top of the sport right now. No doubt about it

:27:21. > :27:24.by Germany have one three of the last four meetings between the

:27:25. > :27:28.teams. That is still stored away in the back of their minds. You know

:27:29. > :27:39.your tally against each team out here.

:27:40. > :27:48.She's at it again! She is dialled in and Germany can do nothing wrong at

:27:49. > :27:57.the moment. What is brilliant here is Kira Walkenhorst, she showed and

:27:58. > :28:03.took. She looked as if she was a set up and then she'd don't out to the

:28:04. > :28:10.line, which is what Talita loves to do. She got it with her outside

:28:11. > :28:18.hand. This time she went for the crosscourt. At the moment, Germany

:28:19. > :28:24.are on top. It will be fascinating to see if Brazil turn it around and

:28:25. > :28:33.if they do, how will Germany respond? At the moment, German fans

:28:34. > :28:38.will be loving this. Wow! Absolutely extending the Brazilian defence.

:28:39. > :28:47.Ludwig sets up her serve reception closer to the middle of the court.

:28:48. > :28:53.I'm not sure if they just found a rhythm and they just got comfortable

:28:54. > :28:59.with her taking more of the middle balls but she fights it off

:29:00. > :29:14.extremely well. The pressure relieved by a service fault. It was

:29:15. > :29:18.2-2 and it is now 8-4. Good communication, because they both

:29:19. > :29:31.could have gone for that one. That is a miss! This will just get the

:29:32. > :29:39.crowd going. Which is what they've managed to quieten down. It seemed

:29:40. > :29:42.that Walkenhorst was looking to shoot line and she got the nobody

:29:43. > :29:58.call. No mistake that time. Germany four points to the good. If

:29:59. > :30:04.Germany win this, they will guarantee themselves that first-ever

:30:05. > :30:23.women's beach volleyball medal in the Olympic Games.

:30:24. > :30:31.And that is the best rally of the match, but it goes the way of

:30:32. > :30:35.Brazil. Some great digging from both Ludwig and Larissa.

:30:36. > :30:40.It looked like Walkenhorst could have got under that sets just a

:30:41. > :30:48.little bit more. Did not quite get enough legs under it. The rule shot

:30:49. > :31:13.over the block. Just checking what the defensive

:31:14. > :31:19.situation is. She has been pretty inconsistent on serve, she has four

:31:20. > :31:24.faults, took something off it here and, as I mentioned earlier, you're

:31:25. > :31:29.serving and blogging go hand-in-hand. Setting herself off

:31:30. > :31:36.for success in that play. -- blocking.

:31:37. > :31:57.These two, the only Brazilians left in the women's draw. They have are

:31:58. > :32:01.the number two seeds as well. Brazil loaded up the semifinal, you're only

:32:02. > :32:06.allowed two teams per country into the Olympic Games if you can qualify

:32:07. > :32:10.a field two. Both Germany and Brazil have done that but both Brazil teams

:32:11. > :32:15.have made their way to the semifinals. The men's competition

:32:16. > :32:22.they are one light in the semis. Exactly. Apologies to the Brazilian

:32:23. > :32:31.women's beach volleyball team is the age goes straight down the middle,

:32:32. > :32:38.is a 6-point lead. We scrabble to find the biggest winning margin in

:32:39. > :32:42.asset between these two. That can create some serious stress in one

:32:43. > :32:53.side of the net. Communication errors can really sting. What a

:32:54. > :33:00.scoop by Laura Ludwig. And Larissa does the same. One of the sharpest

:33:01. > :33:06.cut shots in the game comes from Larissa. She has a very large hands.

:33:07. > :33:13.So the fact that she can take that ball and car of it -- carve it the

:33:14. > :33:18.way she wants it is fascinating. This is the technical time-out with

:33:19. > :33:27.the scores at 13-8 in Germany's favour. It was 11-10 to Brazil in

:33:28. > :33:37.the first set at this point but Germany are bossing this second set.

:33:38. > :33:43.Service aces from Ludwig, but she is the dynamo at the moment for

:33:44. > :33:48.Germany. It is weird how a beach volleyball game can work, you can

:33:49. > :33:53.see your blocker winning the match and your defender running the show

:33:54. > :34:00.and winning the match but just now it is Ludwig. You definitely have a

:34:01. > :34:03.work or central pony -- workhorse and show pony. What makes certain

:34:04. > :34:13.teams great as opposed to very good is that both of them can be either.

:34:14. > :34:15.That is a great leave by Walkenhorst. Got all the way to the

:34:16. > :34:21.line to be sure the ball was out. It is a bad set. That is extremely

:34:22. > :34:43.uncharacteristic of Larissa. They are in real trouble now,

:34:44. > :34:48.Brazil. If they call themselves out of it, I was saying earlier, it is

:34:49. > :34:49.not as big as it was in the quarterfinal, it is now bigger and

:34:50. > :35:01.deeper and very dark. It is time you don't want to give

:35:02. > :35:05.either side and inch. Germany does not want to give Brazil and inch

:35:06. > :35:08.because they know what they can do, having watched Brazil's match

:35:09. > :35:53.against Switzerland. She has such a heavy arm and if they

:35:54. > :35:54.close this out in two, she only has to take that Arman from one more

:35:55. > :36:04.match. It is a bit head in hands time for

:36:05. > :36:22.Brazil. She has done them again. And Brazil,

:36:23. > :36:27.they just don't seem to have an answer for this game right now. You

:36:28. > :36:31.can tell Germany has done their homework on Brazil, Talita is very

:36:32. > :36:37.wiry, she is a lot of fast twitch muscle fibre is timing her up

:36:38. > :36:40.because she changes when she makes contact in her attacks on many times

:36:41. > :36:50.that Walkenhorst has done her homework in the block. A little

:36:51. > :36:54.anxious, that is her second net violation of jumping out of her

:36:55. > :36:59.shoes are little. Larissa won bronze in London four years ago then she

:37:00. > :37:05.retired for personal reasons, but she said the call of the sound was

:37:06. > :37:13.too much and she wanted and win a gold on home stand. -- home sand. If

:37:14. > :37:16.she does it will be the most remarkable comeback in Olympic

:37:17. > :37:23.history because just now they are being taken apart by the very

:37:24. > :37:26.efficient German pair. From the very beginning of the Olympics I said

:37:27. > :37:33.that Germany is a well oiled machine. They have dialled in their

:37:34. > :37:37.diet and training, and you can tell everything they've been working on

:37:38. > :37:40.from the beginning of this Olympic qualification is coming together

:37:41. > :37:45.right here, right now on the biggest stage. I local out there and say I

:37:46. > :37:55.don't think Brazil will get one back. 19- 11 in the second set, it

:37:56. > :37:58.is an unbelievable performance. We were speaking and we thought it

:37:59. > :38:06.might be a close match. You are joking. That brings up nine gold

:38:07. > :38:11.medal match points. When it is your day, it is your day. Because that is

:38:12. > :38:17.a heavy net and still coming down on the German side. Somehow it still

:38:18. > :38:28.comes down on the Brazilian side. Nine match points for Germany. Not

:38:29. > :38:33.to be. She almost had two of those, but this is making Brazil is truly

:38:34. > :38:37.uncomfortable the more hands they get on balls the more uncomfortable

:38:38. > :38:42.they are and it has allowed Germany to groove. Larissa, sadly a bit

:38:43. > :38:49.emotional on her face already, she knows this one is done and it is our

:38:50. > :38:53.winner. It is the most amazing result, not because Germany have

:38:54. > :39:02.one, but by the size and manner of the victory. It was closer in the

:39:03. > :39:09.first, point by point, but there wasn't a lot of answers that Brazil

:39:10. > :39:13.had for the Germans. That is one of the most impressive matches of beach

:39:14. > :39:16.volleyball I've ever seen. The number one seeds, one of the hottest

:39:17. > :39:23.tickets on the beach volleyball world tour have just been

:39:24. > :39:26.dismantled. The efficiency is something I have not witnessed

:39:27. > :39:30.against two of the top teams that play the game. Ludwig and

:39:31. > :39:37.Walkenhorst have won this semifinal against Larissa and Talita by 2-0.

:39:38. > :39:41.They will get Germany's first ever beach volleyball Olympic medal,

:39:42. > :39:47.which colour will it be? After disappointment and despair for

:39:48. > :39:51.Brazil. There is always the two sides of emotion in a match in the

:39:52. > :40:02.semifinal of Alan big games. Of any games. You are witnessing them right

:40:03. > :40:06.here, despair and joy. Not a good afternoon for Brazil, they've lost

:40:07. > :40:10.in the football, the Sweden on penalties in the semifinal, and

:40:11. > :40:18.they've been absolutely destroyed by Germany in the beach volleyball.

:40:19. > :40:22.Look at Ludwig's face. The Germans down the other end of Copacabana

:40:23. > :40:29.beach are celebrating and four Larissa and Talita, who were the

:40:30. > :40:31.favourites, they came into this with so much promise, they were brilliant

:40:32. > :40:35.in their quarterfinal coming from one set down to beat the Swiss in a

:40:36. > :40:41.packed arena, but they were no match for the German pair in this

:40:42. > :40:44.semifinal. The Germans go on to the gold-medal match, still a chance for

:40:45. > :40:48.a medal for Larissa and Talita. We saw the little with her family and

:40:49. > :40:52.friends in tears, they thought they had a chance at a gold medal and

:40:53. > :40:58.they have been absolutely taken to pieces. By the German pair. We

:40:59. > :41:02.should be back there in about 20 minutes for one of the men's

:41:03. > :41:09.semifinals, again that sees another Brazilian pair and another top seeds

:41:10. > :41:16.going as well. A big surprise at the beach volleyball today and any

:41:17. > :41:21.football. Good evening in the UK. We are alive on Copacabana beach, none

:41:22. > :41:25.of this rubbish about us being elsewhere. The gorgeous golden sand,

:41:26. > :41:29.we're still quite packed in about an hour the sun will begin to set and

:41:30. > :41:35.people will drift away from the beach into the various bars and

:41:36. > :41:36.hotels around us. On day 11 of these games in Rio de Janeiro, let's bring

:41:37. > :41:46.it up to date with the headlines. We'll see the routine in a moment,

:41:47. > :41:51.Amy Tinkler in the gymnastics has won a surprise bronze in the floor,

:41:52. > :41:53.it was her first individual Olympic final. Simone Biles of USA took the

:41:54. > :42:03.gold. Also, another medal in the

:42:04. > :42:06.gymnastics for Nile Wilson, a bronze on the high bar, the first Briton to

:42:07. > :42:13.reach that final and the first man to win a medal.

:42:14. > :42:18.Giles Scott knew his gold was guaranteed but after leaving's medal

:42:19. > :42:26.race it was confirmed, Giles Scott has taken gold in the Finn class act

:42:27. > :42:29.on the Marina da Gloria. We told you about the miserable day for Brazil

:42:30. > :42:34.in the women's football, Sweden to the final, the gold-medal match

:42:35. > :42:40.which takes place on Friday. They won a penalty shoot out at the same

:42:41. > :42:44.stadium about an hour ago, Germany and Canada are playing the second

:42:45. > :42:50.semifinal just now. We will bring you an update on that later on. He

:42:51. > :42:55.was our timetable if you're with us on BBC Four, we're here all the way

:42:56. > :42:59.through until 2pm in them -- 2am in the morning. One beach volleyball --

:43:00. > :43:06.more beach volleyball in about 20 minutes. Through the end Schmidt or

:43:07. > :43:09.inaction, the top seeds. At 10pm will have the live coverage of the

:43:10. > :43:14.men's three metres springboard final, including Jack Lord -- Jack

:43:15. > :43:23.Laugher trying to get another gold medal. BBC One is the women's sprint

:43:24. > :43:27.final and we will be on the Red Button as well for the boxing

:43:28. > :43:30.throughout the evening and at some stage we will bring you the men's

:43:31. > :43:36.light heavy semifinal featuring Joshua Buatsi and BBC One day to

:43:37. > :43:40.James is due to the final of the women's sprint and we see of Katy

:43:41. > :43:45.Marchant can make it as well. You can watch that on BBC One and we

:43:46. > :43:49.will show you it in a moment. Also, more boxing with one of Brazil's

:43:50. > :43:54.fires coming up later. This is BBC One and that is Katy Marchant in the

:43:55. > :43:58.GB vest, she has won down in this women's sprint. On BBC One you will

:43:59. > :44:06.see she can join Becky James in the final. Call later. Shall we wait?

:44:07. > :44:14.She hasn't. Katy Marchant has not made the final, the Germans are

:44:15. > :44:19.there instead. Christina Vogel is through into the final. Stay is on

:44:20. > :44:23.BBC Four. We told you that incredible bronze medal, in fact,

:44:24. > :44:28.what a gymnastics session Id been full to become tissue has produced

:44:29. > :44:31.six medals in all, two gold, one silver and three bronze and two of

:44:32. > :44:36.those bronze medals came today. We'll show you the routine of Amy

:44:37. > :44:41.Tinkler, who was going in the floor. Simone Biles was the overwhelming

:44:42. > :44:47.favourite, not just for the all-round but she will the one that

:44:48. > :44:51.and for the floor which is one of her top bridges, Amy Tinkler into

:44:52. > :44:54.her first Olympic final. We'll show you her bronze routine. This routine

:44:55. > :45:00.won the bronze medal and will be described as the -- by better,

:45:01. > :45:03.Christine Steele and Matt Baker. COMMENTATOR:

:45:04. > :45:14.Is Amy Tinkler. Youngest member of Team GB as an entirety. She is the

:45:15. > :45:16.British for champion and what outcome are some very big tumbles

:45:17. > :45:23.will come up in this routine. It starts off very cleanly, and great

:45:24. > :45:31.music, the crowd are already clapping along to it. Here is the

:45:32. > :45:39.big first tumble, back in. It. -- fool straight. She really sells this

:45:40. > :45:45.routine. Straight back down the diagonal with the double twisting

:45:46. > :46:02.double back. Fantastic first two tumbles from Amy.

:46:03. > :46:11.And now has the chance to show that great choreography. There is the

:46:12. > :46:18.leap. She is building up to a third tumble. Combination tumble, the one

:46:19. > :46:26.and a half walk-out, into the double tack. Very cleanly performed. There

:46:27. > :46:35.is another big jump and she is building up to the final tumble. A

:46:36. > :46:40.very short run. Such a powerful gymnast. There's the double pike and

:46:41. > :46:49.a fantastic landing to finish off a great routine. Amy Tinkler looking

:46:50. > :46:55.very at home in this Olympic quarterfinal. Really positive, she's

:46:56. > :46:59.such an expressive gymnast. She has really wowed the crowd. The crowd

:47:00. > :47:04.got behind her more than anyone else. She's from your neck of the

:47:05. > :47:09.woods, South Durham to manually performed fantastically throughout

:47:10. > :47:13.this Championships. First tumble, a double straight somersault with the

:47:14. > :47:17.twists in and the body travelled really slowly when you're straight,

:47:18. > :47:23.so that is one of the most difficult tumbles you will see. This is the

:47:24. > :47:28.double tuck position with two twists. Always been a great tumbler,

:47:29. > :47:35.from a tiny little gymnast. So well rehearsed on the landings. She

:47:36. > :47:39.didn't step. She could not have done that better. Amy is one of the

:47:40. > :47:42.gymnasts who has really relished this opportunity. She has. After

:47:43. > :47:49.qualification apparently she was asked how it felt out there and she

:47:50. > :47:53.just set, "I love it". She had the biggest smile on her face and she

:47:54. > :48:00.just wanted to be out there, she just wanted to perform. The crowd is

:48:01. > :48:02.a really enjoying that routine with her. To perform with the crowd

:48:03. > :48:06.clapping along, it gives you that bars as well. Well, the score is in

:48:07. > :48:25.and it is an enormous 14.933! Brilliant performance from Amy

:48:26. > :48:33.Tinkler. We will hear from her later. We need to bring you news of

:48:34. > :48:36.another gold medal! Hannah Clarke and Saskia Mills were looking good

:48:37. > :48:43.in the women's 470. What is the update, what's happened? It's not

:48:44. > :48:45.all about sailing, it's about mathematics, and they crossed the

:48:46. > :48:50.finish line and they didn't know and they went to the coach and he had

:48:51. > :48:57.done the adding up correctly and they are just enough ahead, 20

:48:58. > :49:02.points ahead, which means they are guaranteed that gold medal. They

:49:03. > :49:07.have to do the medal race but they don't have to do anything in it!

:49:08. > :49:13.Great news. We are following them in and we're going to speak to them as

:49:14. > :49:20.soon as we get to quieter waters, so not long now until we can chat to

:49:21. > :49:23.our new gold medallists. Talk to us about the significance of this

:49:24. > :49:30.medal. You were telling us at the start of the regatta that there were

:49:31. > :49:35.many chances across the classes for Team GB. What were their chances

:49:36. > :49:39.before they started? They won a silver medal in London and they were

:49:40. > :49:44.just beaten by the Kiwis in the medal race. I always remember going

:49:45. > :49:53.up to Hannah and Saskia afterwards and they were so angry with

:49:54. > :49:57.themselves, so today is very much they have righted the wrong. They

:49:58. > :50:00.have been so focused for the last few years on winning that gold and

:50:01. > :50:04.their performance this week has been absolutely rock solid. They have not

:50:05. > :50:06.had a wobble. That's pretty impressive, particularly in this

:50:07. > :50:10.kind of venue where lots of things can go around the point you know

:50:11. > :50:14.that only too well yourself, being a double gold-medal list. What is that

:50:15. > :50:21.pressure like of trying to perform again when everyone knows you are

:50:22. > :50:30.one of the boats to watch? In many ways good because you know you've

:50:31. > :50:34.got the full tool box. I think they're just here with the coach,

:50:35. > :50:38.they are towing in and within a few moments we will be able to speak to

:50:39. > :50:42.them. They are pretty happy girls, they just stood up and they hugged

:50:43. > :50:46.each other, they have lived with that mistake they made four years

:50:47. > :50:52.ago until today and I just saw the emotion come spilling out. It's a

:50:53. > :50:55.great victory. Surely, how long do you think we will have to wait until

:50:56. > :51:02.we can speak to them? We're desperate to get a gold medallist on

:51:03. > :51:05.BBC Four! Not long! I want to make sure we can definitely see them.

:51:06. > :51:09.Give us a few more minutes and I will have them here. Great stuff,

:51:10. > :51:14.hopefully pick up with you later. Thanks very much for describing that

:51:15. > :51:21.to us. Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills have just taken gold in the women's

:51:22. > :51:30.470 as well. We will get some reaction a bit later on from Shirley

:51:31. > :51:38.Robertson and in fact we can go back because you have them? I don't quite

:51:39. > :51:43.have them on board yet but they have found us. Here they are, well done

:51:44. > :51:46.girls! 'S enormous big smiles. I think we need a little bit longer to

:51:47. > :51:54.get them on board safely and to be able to talk to us. We believe you

:51:55. > :51:58.do it, we don't want to cause issues with some sort of nautical

:51:59. > :52:06.manoeuvre! We hope to hear from those medallists later on BBC Four

:52:07. > :52:12.but what we can bring you is a bronze medallist from earlier in the

:52:13. > :52:15.gymnastics, Amy Tinkler. Amy, I think about six weeks ago you were

:52:16. > :52:17.sitting your GCSEs and here you are with an Olympic bronze medal, just

:52:18. > :52:22.tell us what is going through your head right now! I honestly don't

:52:23. > :52:27.have a clue, it's just so an real! It's just total shock. When you did

:52:28. > :52:32.that routine, did you think it could be a medal or did you think it would

:52:33. > :52:36.be for the fifth place? My toast just said you've got nothing to

:52:37. > :52:41.lose, go out there and enjoy it and that is what I did. Whatever the

:52:42. > :52:45.result would have been, I would have been happy with. Your only the

:52:46. > :52:49.second woman ever to end with an Olympic medal for Great Britain.

:52:50. > :52:53.You're up there with the likes of Beth Tweddle and you're not even 17

:52:54. > :52:58.yet! You seem so at home on the biggest stage of all. I just love

:52:59. > :53:05.competing in front of big crowds as well. It's just incredible. I'm

:53:06. > :53:09.shocked! I can see your shop, you can hardly speak! Have you got

:53:10. > :53:13.friends and family around here to watch you? Yes, my coaches and my

:53:14. > :53:18.family and I just want to say thank you to everyone for all their

:53:19. > :53:23.support. The last year has just been amazing and I couldn't have done it

:53:24. > :53:28.without all of you. You could be back in Tokyo winning another bronze

:53:29. > :53:36.or even better maybe! Yes, I would love to. When do you get your GCSEs

:53:37. > :53:41.results? The day I get home from Rio! A lot to look forward to now.

:53:42. > :53:48.A big few days ahead for Amy Tinkler, GCSE results to come as

:53:49. > :53:54.well! Simone Biles of the USA took the gold, the overwhelming favourite

:53:55. > :53:58.for that, but what a smile from Amy Tinkler. Another bronze in the

:53:59. > :54:05.gymnastics, this time for Nile Wilson, the first Briton ever to

:54:06. > :54:11.qualify for a high bar final. Her routine -- his routine is described

:54:12. > :54:17.by Beth Tweddle, Dan Keatings and Matt Baker.

:54:18. > :54:24.COMMENTATOR: Time to focus on Nile Wilson, Commonwealth champion. What

:54:25. > :54:32.can he achieved here in this meant's Olympic high bar Valley -- high bar

:54:33. > :54:41.final. Well, Nile is also has to go for broke. He has to do these huge

:54:42. > :54:45.releases to their maximum. Lining it up, into a big release.

:54:46. > :55:00.Catches it perfectly. And again, height into it. Now, settle down,

:55:01. > :55:13.really nice one and a half terms. There is the squat, just slightly

:55:14. > :55:27.off handstand. Squat with half turn. The big catch. Come on, big wind-up,

:55:28. > :55:36.just the dismount left! Double twisting, double straight. Get in,

:55:37. > :55:40.lad. What a routine. That is going to challenge! He was building the

:55:41. > :55:47.difficulty is all the way through and that was a very strong statement

:55:48. > :55:52.for an Olympic medal. It was indeed and what a cool customer. He's

:55:53. > :55:56.aggressive and determined, but he's never been up in an Olympic final

:55:57. > :56:02.before. They only happen once every four years. That is what ramps up

:56:03. > :56:05.the pressure. You know in four years' time you're going to be

:56:06. > :56:12.older, who knows what will have happened. Beautiful vault through

:56:13. > :56:16.the air as well. He is a beautifully stylish gymnast, really

:56:17. > :56:20.well-trained. One of the next generation of British gymnasts

:56:21. > :56:26.coming along. I think he loves these big competitions. He really takes

:56:27. > :56:32.gymnastics to the next level under an enormous amount of pressure and

:56:33. > :56:36.that is what makes a great gymnast and sets the best guys apart. That

:56:37. > :56:39.is something that can't be coached, isn't it, Dan? It is something you

:56:40. > :56:48.have the heart for alike Amy Tinkler. He gave nothing away on

:56:49. > :56:57.that dismount. He knows he has to stick their two get in the medals.

:56:58. > :57:01.15.4 66. Nile Wilson in second at the moment.

:57:02. > :57:09.Now you've got your Olympic medal... CHUCKLES

:57:10. > :57:14.It sounds incredible. It's hard to put into words how I feel right now

:57:15. > :57:19.in terms of emotion but I'm so happy, it's a dream come true,

:57:20. > :57:24.something you train your whole life. It was difficult to manage my

:57:25. > :57:31.expectations going into that final. It wasn't by any means my best

:57:32. > :57:34.routine that I hit. I was quite emotional up there, it's difficult

:57:35. > :57:41.looking at my family getting really upset and then my coach Barry rang

:57:42. > :57:48.me and he was in tears on the phone. I can't thank them enough. My

:57:49. > :57:53.personal coach, Leeds gymnastics club. I've got my Olympic medal in

:57:54. > :57:58.my hand, it feels so good! You're the sort of guy, you put all your

:57:59. > :58:02.emotions into it. We could see when you came off the high bar you had

:58:03. > :58:08.done a great job. You didn't want to wait four years for this, did you!

:58:09. > :58:11.No, it was an opportunity today and I had the opportunity to become an

:58:12. > :58:21.Olympic medallist, I was fortunate enough. I will find it difficult to

:58:22. > :58:25.control my emotions. I'm so happy and I know everyone at home will be

:58:26. > :58:30.so proud. I just want to say to my mum and dad, I did it, I love you so

:58:31. > :58:37.much. You and Amy Tinkler are both first-time Olympians and you have

:58:38. > :58:42.thrived on the biggest stage of all. This week has been incredible for

:58:43. > :58:48.British gymnastics. Seven medals. That has surpassed any expectation.

:58:49. > :58:55.Max, Lewis, they were all inspirational. I'm glad to be my

:58:56. > :59:00.country proud. You're going to meet up with mum and dad now and have a

:59:01. > :59:05.celebration? Definitely. See the boys as well as they will be buzzing

:59:06. > :59:14.for me and it's time to dance! Thank you. Thank you, Nile. He ends up

:59:15. > :59:19.with a bronze medal. Six medals in total from the gymnastics, two gold,

:59:20. > :59:24.one silver and three bronze. We can show you the updated medal table

:59:25. > :59:31.from a Team GB perspective, because they are still second on the list.

:59:32. > :59:36.18 gold medals, 17 silvers and ten bronze medals. 20 behind the total

:59:37. > :59:42.from four years ago in London. The 18th gold arrived a few moments ago

:59:43. > :59:46.for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark in the women's 470. We were there with

:59:47. > :59:48.Shirley Robertson and she has now dragged the gold medallists into the

:59:49. > :59:57.boat and she is now talking to them. The 2016 gold medallist, Hannah

:59:58. > :00:00.Mills and Saskia Clark! LAUGHTER

:00:01. > :00:05.I'm absolutely lost for words. I still can't believe it. We saw you

:00:06. > :00:09.cross the line and there was a bit of arithmetic to make sure and you

:00:10. > :00:15.went to your coach behind us and you knew. Just tell me about the moment

:00:16. > :00:17.when you realise you had it. Complete and utter shock. The

:00:18. > :00:22.emotions just poured out of me and I didn't know what to say or do. It's

:00:23. > :00:26.the most bizarre feeling ever! I haven't stopped smiling!

:00:27. > :00:33.I didn't have heard of the choir though. I will never forget four

:00:34. > :00:39.years old when he lost the medal race to the Kiwis. You were so cross

:00:40. > :00:44.with yourself, tell me how it feels to have righted that wrong?

:00:45. > :00:49.Completely surreal. It has been a marathon event. We've been saying --

:00:50. > :00:56.sailing what feels like forever to get this medal this week and I still

:00:57. > :01:02.cannot believe it is done. We have one race left. You have your lap of

:01:03. > :01:07.honour, it is called doing a Giles, it will be quite a lap of honour. I

:01:08. > :01:11.cannot wait. We came here three years ago in sales that course as a

:01:12. > :01:15.joke last three years saying we want to be 20 points clear going into the

:01:16. > :01:21.race because it is so hard, and we are. I can't believe it. I know you

:01:22. > :01:26.are the best of friends, you are so close, this has been five years in

:01:27. > :01:31.the making to share this moment before you had ashore together. What

:01:32. > :01:35.is that like? It has been amazing to me is been a difficult few years,

:01:36. > :01:40.I've had to Matt pieces of surgery and Times didn't think I would make

:01:41. > :01:45.it back and she waited for me. She has been an amazing best friend and

:01:46. > :01:52.team-mate. That is a great start -- great cover. 2016 gold medallists.

:01:53. > :01:55.Congratulations. Congratulations to both of them. Since then they've

:01:56. > :01:58.been dancing on the book, enjoying themselves, but of emotion about

:01:59. > :02:03.what they've been through over the last few years and they've been

:02:04. > :02:08.calling members of their family. And doing some dancing, obviously. It is

:02:09. > :02:11.interesting as well that throughout these games we've been speaking

:02:12. > :02:17.about getting you inspired into whatever spot it might be and you

:02:18. > :02:20.think you might want to try. This is what it means and you might be sat

:02:21. > :02:24.there the night, I don't knows you ever tried selling before, I

:02:25. > :02:27.haven't, but if you go on the BBC website to get inspired section and

:02:28. > :02:31.think you might want to try it in the future, go on there and you can

:02:32. > :02:35.find sailing and find the nearest club close to you and it might not

:02:36. > :02:39.be something that takes the sailing that takes your fancy, it might be

:02:40. > :02:43.something different. Maybe the gymnastics. They get inspired

:02:44. > :02:47.website on the BBC site is the best place to find the nearest club gear.

:02:48. > :02:50.If you or your kids or someone else in your family has watched these

:02:51. > :02:54.games and things, do you know what? I might give that a try. Maybe in a

:02:55. > :03:01.few years you might be the Shirley or boat somewhere in the world

:03:02. > :03:05.celebrating a medal of some colour. Congratulations to Hannah Mills and

:03:06. > :03:08.Saskia Clark, the 18th gold medallist for Team GB. We will take

:03:09. > :03:12.you back to the beach volleyball, we promised a second game and I wonder

:03:13. > :03:16.if this will go better for the Brazilians in the first one. We saw

:03:17. > :03:22.the top seeds knocked out in the semifinals against the Germans, this

:03:23. > :03:26.time it is the male Brazilian top seeds, so Richard Schmidt taking on

:03:27. > :03:32.the Dutch, we can rejoin our country team. This is live beach volleyball

:03:33. > :03:37.on BBC Four. Trolley Broom and Britos over again.

:03:38. > :03:45.COMMENTATOR: Still alive. Perfectly legitimate to

:03:46. > :03:53.play on that and make Alison play one more shot. They get their reward

:03:54. > :04:02.for that hard graft. The cover ball here is devastating against a player

:04:03. > :04:07.that is expecting it to be a point. Rally over. The mental agility that

:04:08. > :04:13.has to happen when a ball like that gets saved as to be top-notch. The

:04:14. > :04:16.reactions you must have for the ball coming of the net, it comes off

:04:17. > :04:28.incredibly quickly and not at angle you think. Alison makes sure about

:04:29. > :04:34.Prydie has left lag over the sideline. -- make sure by putting

:04:35. > :04:49.his left. Or not. He has a foot inside.

:04:50. > :04:57.Yes! Now is the turn of the Brazilians to make their opponents

:04:58. > :05:01.play one more shot and then win a point as they shouldn't have. You

:05:02. > :05:06.can kind of see the Netherlands are giving themselves some room on the

:05:07. > :05:10.set, they know how effective the blogger Alison is, so they must

:05:11. > :05:14.create some space and keep him as much out of that player is possible.

:05:15. > :05:39.He will find a way to insert himself.

:05:40. > :05:52.That ball hits the ground, my guess is it wants to stay. Just lay down.

:05:53. > :06:06.The ball is saying take me out of the rotation, please.

:06:07. > :06:17.Good work from Brouwer. His arm sling is so smooth, there is an 11 G

:06:18. > :06:23.to it and unease to it, it comes off so fast, both of them are extremely

:06:24. > :06:30.wiry from the Netherlands. Alison has kind of a heavy strength to him.

:06:31. > :06:40.Good work from Bruno, keeps his side in front. It seems early that the

:06:41. > :06:43.Netherlands are going a little bit after them, kind of feeling them

:06:44. > :06:52.out, seeing which they will settle in on.

:06:53. > :07:03.Alison just throwing it back. He doesn't want any of that noise. Side

:07:04. > :07:12.switch. Total points at 14. Change of court every seven points. The

:07:13. > :07:26.change-up not working for Meeuwsen. That was a long way from the net,

:07:27. > :07:31.but it is a some spike from Brouwer. When he leaves the ground he has the

:07:32. > :07:32.over his head for that ball and ran to create the angle he did is

:07:33. > :07:42.impressive. Bruno laid out is making the

:07:43. > :07:44.Netherlands think he got a hand on that, the next ball quite -- might

:07:45. > :08:02.be up, I need to be sharper. It was a lead of two now, the first

:08:03. > :08:15.time there has been that much daylight between the sides.

:08:16. > :08:33.It was up with the cycle kicked, but completely out of play. Time-out

:08:34. > :08:38.called, Brouwer. Starting to celebrate and then realise the ball

:08:39. > :08:48.might still be alive. Excellent start by Alison and Bruno. Look at

:08:49. > :09:02.that already, in terms of blocks. They've been together since 2013.

:09:03. > :09:13.They have been on some hot to most notably after the World

:09:14. > :09:18.Championships last year. Just listening in. More times than not it

:09:19. > :09:23.comes down to what you do on your side of the net rather than being so

:09:24. > :09:26.concerned about what they are doing. Of course, Alison, four blocks

:09:27. > :09:32.already, that is something that is weighing on their mind. But also,

:09:33. > :09:36.what is it the Netherlands can do on their side of the net without overly

:09:37. > :09:45.concerning themselves with the mammoth. Bruno serving a 10-7. Four

:09:46. > :09:54.points away from the technical time-out. More times than not it is

:09:55. > :09:58.as simple as the pass a search committee passes in rhythm and the

:09:59. > :09:59.set is aggressive and in the wheelhouse, they are physical enough

:10:00. > :10:29.to get it done. He holds such a large presence but

:10:30. > :10:39.when he changes speed there has got to be every five of Brouwer's being

:10:40. > :10:42.to say go. One more point until the technical time-out. Will it be a

:10:43. > :10:56.3-point lead or a 1-point lead for Brazil?

:10:57. > :11:10.The answer is a 3-point lead. 12-9 to Brazil at the technical time-out.

:11:11. > :11:17.Brouwer and Meeuwsen, they seem to be set up in the right position,

:11:18. > :11:23.they are there. He hits such heavy Bollard will be a matter of not what

:11:24. > :11:28.they will do but when they will do it, when they will transition that

:11:29. > :11:33.play in defence. But their side out needs to be more steady in order for

:11:34. > :11:40.this set not to run away from them. Alison picked up the silver medal in

:11:41. > :11:47.London with his then partner, the 2004 champion, Emmanuelle. Losing

:11:48. > :11:51.out on the gold-medal match. In making his debut in the games, and

:11:52. > :12:02.that is the draw in the men's semifinal. Night is descending on

:12:03. > :12:06.Copacabana, the atmosphere will build. Going back to Bruno, he is

:12:07. > :12:10.making his Olympic debut but his uncle, Oskar Schmidt, is one of

:12:11. > :12:15.Brazil's was decorated Olympian is having wrapped in the Dem in five

:12:16. > :12:19.Olympic Games from 1980-1996 in basketball. Pressure on. The

:12:20. > :12:34.magician. Brazil coming off a high of taking

:12:35. > :12:40.on the USA, in the quarterfinal match yesterday. The Netherlands had

:12:41. > :12:48.to play their compatriots. That was an extraordinary quarterfinal. No

:12:49. > :12:52.doubt about it, the men's side is loaded. It was difficult to say

:12:53. > :12:59.going into this Olympics who you would deem as the teams to be here

:13:00. > :13:05.in the semifinals. It was wide open. There is a plethora of teams that

:13:06. > :13:08.could be here tonight. Oskar gets lucky of the net cord but the

:13:09. > :13:12.quarterfinal against the American pair, the Brazilian pair won it

:13:13. > :13:18.comfortable 21-40 but the second set they went a while, losing 12-21.

:13:19. > :13:24.Then they regrouped after the second set and got a good start, I think

:13:25. > :13:29.they went out to a 5-0 lead or maybe artform- zero lead. It was a 4-1

:13:30. > :13:33.lead, never relinquished that, taking the final set 15-9. You hate

:13:34. > :13:41.to see the Brazil- USA rivalry happen so early, if you will, you

:13:42. > :13:45.quarterfinal. But it was epic nonetheless. It all comes about

:13:46. > :13:48.because of Brazil's Gloucester Austria in the pool play, which is

:13:49. > :13:51.why they are where they are. If they go all the way they will feel even

:13:52. > :13:54.more pride about the gold-medal because they've beaten some really

:13:55. > :14:03.tough players to get to the top of the podium. No question, there is

:14:04. > :14:14.not a team in the tournament that was a walkover in regards to, Cuba,

:14:15. > :14:17.shocking the world, really, in their lack of experience, but came on and

:14:18. > :14:28.put on a heck of a show against Russia as well. Still alive. And

:14:29. > :14:36.Meeuwsen goes over with the second touch. We mentioned that Brazil USA

:14:37. > :14:42.rivalry. Beach volleyball might be synonymous with Brazil, was invented

:14:43. > :14:47.in the USA the West Coast. The USA have won three of the five gold

:14:48. > :14:55.medals contested in the men's event. Once over. Brazil have the one gold

:14:56. > :15:05.and three silver, so they contested a lot of gold-medal managers, the

:15:06. > :15:11.USA and Brazil. -- matches. Bizarrely, Brazil's when came over

:15:12. > :15:21.as manager pair. -- came over at Spanish pair.

:15:22. > :15:33.It was athletes into Durston for. -- Athens in 2004. You just feel that

:15:34. > :15:38.the Brazil pair are in control of this set.

:15:39. > :15:48.You just feel that the Brazil pair are in control of this set. As much

:15:49. > :15:53.as it has been a Brazil US and Germany on the men's side, the rest

:15:54. > :16:02.of the world not only has caught up but they have, they have put the

:16:03. > :16:05.Brazilians and Americans in or, I guess, of how well... And their

:16:06. > :16:13.inter-predation, their style of play has been so brilliant to see. The

:16:14. > :16:19.Netherlands, Russia, Cuba, Italy. The Netherlands, Russia and Italy

:16:20. > :16:23.have no Olympic medals in the meant's beach volleyball. So if

:16:24. > :16:28.we're going to have two new medallists on the podium on that

:16:29. > :16:33.final state. It's incredible. It's so fun to see because everyone has a

:16:34. > :16:37.difficult style, -- different style, everyone has a different approach to

:16:38. > :16:54.it. They are dealing with athletes who come in all different shapes and

:16:55. > :16:59.sizes. Cut away but missed, 18-14. The Dutch pair need to come up with

:17:00. > :17:09.the answer here because at the moment they can't seem to get a

:17:10. > :17:16.decent foothold in the match. Good reading from Meeuwsen, he was right

:17:17. > :17:26.underneath it. It's always impressive to me to see Meeuwsen and

:17:27. > :17:30.Alison at six foot eight and the size that these guys are, to get as

:17:31. > :17:39.low as they get in the sand and even go horizontal at times and then get

:17:40. > :17:49.as vertical as they get... In my opinion, some of the best athletes

:17:50. > :17:54.on planet Earth. Bruno curling it on to that line. 19-15, two points away

:17:55. > :18:10.from that first set. Then you have Bruno, standing at six

:18:11. > :18:21.foot even, to be able to do what he does against guys this size is

:18:22. > :18:30.brilliant. It's all comparative, of course, but he is rather small for a

:18:31. > :18:41.beach volleyball player. Just missing! He caught the top of the

:18:42. > :18:48.tape. Four set points now for Brazil. Nothing that the crowd could

:18:49. > :19:14.do about that. Just wide. Just wide, so they're

:19:15. > :19:22.going to have to go for a second set point. Trying to put the pressure on

:19:23. > :19:27.and saying it was in, but it was wide. So fun when it comes down to

:19:28. > :19:37.centimetres. The crowd are on their feet. Get is a little lucky off the

:19:38. > :19:47.net cord, Alison to win the first set! He does. Alison and Bruno

:19:48. > :19:53.Schmidt take the first set 21-17 and in truth, it never looked in doubt.

:19:54. > :19:59.So, Brazil looking good in that first that. They are a set up

:20:00. > :20:05.against the Dutch and we will show you the second is that a bit later

:20:06. > :20:09.on. See if Brazil can make it through to the final. Over on BBC

:20:10. > :20:14.One right now it's the track cycling for you. Laura Trott, Gold medallist

:20:15. > :20:21.in the omnium from four years ago, is leading the event. Quite a view

:20:22. > :20:25.laps to go. Laura Trott looking good for yet another gold medal. We're

:20:26. > :20:34.going to bring you a bit of boxing later because we have got the diving

:20:35. > :20:37.coming up later with Jack Laugher in the three metre springboard final.

:20:38. > :20:42.There's a bit British in boxing as well, which you can find on the red

:20:43. > :20:51.button, whether you have got free view, free sat, cable, it's all on

:20:52. > :20:53.there for you. Live right there is the boxing session which includes

:20:54. > :20:56.Joshua Buatsi in the final of the light heavyweight. That is 10:30pm

:20:57. > :21:01.on straight after that we will see Joe Joyce go in the meant's

:21:02. > :21:05.superheavyweight. We saw Joe Joyce actually get rid of one of his

:21:06. > :21:08.earlier opponents in the very first round, so he's in impressive form

:21:09. > :21:13.and he's in the quarterfinal at 10:45pm. We will bring you those

:21:14. > :21:18.fights a little bit later on after the diving. If you would like to

:21:19. > :21:23.watch them live, it's over on the red button. Right now, second set,

:21:24. > :21:29.back to the beach volleyball with Brazil ahead.

:21:30. > :21:44.Bruno! Kept that alive somehow, the Dutch, but still advantage Brazil. A

:21:45. > :21:53.superb full-length deck. Oh dear, the set was just too strong. The

:21:54. > :22:00.tightrope more or less on playing aggressively and then playing too

:22:01. > :22:13.aggressively, giving yourself a good look. And then letting the mammoth

:22:14. > :22:15.get involved. We should go the whole hog and call him the woolly mammoth,

:22:16. > :22:56.he has the Bruno just cutting it across the

:22:57. > :23:02.court. All about shot choice, 95% of the time. He sets himself up for

:23:03. > :23:07.success, no question. He squared his shoulders to the line ball and

:23:08. > :23:13.allowed the rotation to come from the smaller joints, the elbow and

:23:14. > :23:17.the hand. Good blocking. Good blocking. Meeuwsen. This is what the

:23:18. > :23:41.Dutch need to do. Having won the point with a good

:23:42. > :23:46.blog, you don't want to give away a cheap point with a service error or

:23:47. > :23:50.fault straight off the back of it. However, you do want to put the

:23:51. > :23:55.pressure on. Even though that ball was missed long, it forced Brazil to

:23:56. > :24:01.make a decision. They know that when Brouwer gets hot, that serve can

:24:02. > :24:04.string together a viewpoints. You almost don't want to concern

:24:05. > :24:14.yourself as much with default as Netherlands needing to get into a

:24:15. > :24:17.serving grooves and rhythm. They nick need to blast their way into it

:24:18. > :24:21.as opposed to giving Brazil and easier ball and letting them build

:24:22. > :24:27.their confidence. A very flat looking serve, two consecutive

:24:28. > :24:32.faults for the Netherlands. What the Netherlands is trying to do there is

:24:33. > :24:38.get a topspin or a jump spin kind of serve from Brouwer and then Meeuwsen

:24:39. > :24:41.following it up with a float serve, so Brazil is having to look at two

:24:42. > :24:47.different types of serves. Brazil knows how imperative it is to serve

:24:48. > :24:57.tough. We almost even in faults. It's catching. Monkey see monkey do.

:24:58. > :25:17.Some power in that! Wow! Have a look at this. You could have had five

:25:18. > :25:25.people there and no one is going to get that back. Exactly!

:25:26. > :25:41.The serving has just dropped off a cliff in this set, as they try and

:25:42. > :25:55.lift the pressure. They got their defensive structure

:25:56. > :26:01.right that time, the Netherlands, but they couldn't make the dig.

:26:02. > :26:07.Bruno Schmidt is sharp. His instincts know how fast Brouwer is

:26:08. > :26:19.and so he's got to find a way to get the ball to the sand is even

:26:20. > :26:39.quicker. Cross court... Brouwer taking the line.

:26:40. > :26:55.There's another one. Second side swap. The spin on that serve creates

:26:56. > :26:59.a spin on the pass which creates a spin on the set. For Alison to

:27:00. > :27:07.change that spin and then score from that far off the net was a very

:27:08. > :27:15.difficult play for Brazil to execute. Wow! Makes the block to put

:27:16. > :27:32.Brazil in front for the first time in this that. A run now of two

:27:33. > :27:40.points for Brazil puts them in front.

:27:41. > :27:53.Wow! That is impressive too. Meeuwsen didn't have a lot of space

:27:54. > :28:16.but he managed to find a way to get that to the line.

:28:17. > :28:30.Just wide of the mark and we're going to have a challenge. So, was

:28:31. > :28:36.it touched, was it wide? Let's have another look. They are challenging

:28:37. > :28:48.if it is in or out. It's hard to tell from that angle.

:28:49. > :28:54.The risk that you run by following a ball the way out like that, like

:28:55. > :29:00.Brouwer did, is that if he pushes the line into that ball it's

:29:01. > :29:05.considered in. The lines are quite movable here on the beach, as

:29:06. > :29:11.opposed to indoor, where the lines are painted. The first of two

:29:12. > :29:20.challenges unsuccessful, so just one remaining for Brazil. Brouwer seems

:29:21. > :29:24.to have a beating on these balls, he's just catching them on the part

:29:25. > :29:32.of the tape where it comes at a speed that he can't deal with. It's

:29:33. > :29:36.the same number of attacks. Well, they were lucky, though, Brazil,

:29:37. > :29:43.because the scatter was too far behind it, he didn't get the power

:29:44. > :29:55.on. Bruno Schmidt was on it and Alison knocked it out of his way. He

:29:56. > :30:01.knows. He's thinking I should have made the block but then again, I

:30:02. > :30:08.should have let my team-mates play. The defender in the back court, it's

:30:09. > :30:14.usually in the eyes for the blocker. They have to be more communicative

:30:15. > :30:21.athlete on the court, talking them into or out of certain things. A

:30:22. > :30:24.good blog by Meeuwsen means that at the technical time-outs, it is

:30:25. > :30:35.actually the Netherlands that are in front by 11 points to ten.

:30:36. > :30:51.Some good blocking in this second set by Alison. Credit to Meeuwsen,

:30:52. > :30:57.he has had some good blocks, there is no great deal between them in

:30:58. > :31:15.terms of that statistic. On the right of picture.

:31:16. > :31:28.And it will be Meeuwsen to serve at 1110 in the second set -- 11-10.

:31:29. > :31:35.After losing the first 17-21. Again, they almost make the block or the

:31:36. > :31:38.Digg. It is not far away for the Netherlands team. There has been so

:31:39. > :31:54.many that have been just out of their reach. Or just mistimed, but

:31:55. > :31:58.it has definitely gone Brazil's way. Through no reading that one. Then

:31:59. > :32:22.coming up with the touch. Wow. Bruno's hands are brilliant. That

:32:23. > :32:32.ball is coming with a lot of heat and find out that much control over

:32:33. > :32:38.head and the composure to put it to the sand. Good reactions from

:32:39. > :32:42.Brouwer. Well done. Well done the Netherlands. Alison touches most of

:32:43. > :32:46.the balls in the block with his hands, not many times do see it come

:32:47. > :32:51.off his elbows or something awkward comedy tries to get his hands on the

:32:52. > :32:57.ball, that time he pulled his hands in anticipation of a short, did not

:32:58. > :33:05.want to become a target. And left it for Bruno.

:33:06. > :33:17.Colliding at the net. Meeuwsen taking offence to that, as he

:33:18. > :33:23.should. Bruno came in, full speed, and that can be dangerous. When

:33:24. > :33:30.players almost come under, they do come under the net. It puts everyone

:33:31. > :33:34.in jeopardy. You don't want to be having your ankles taken out by

:33:35. > :33:44.someone coming in at pace, did that hit the line? Yes. It did. Off the

:33:45. > :33:52.net, off some hands. He hit everything. It did not get Meeuwsen.

:33:53. > :34:02.Then the turn and wait for it to drop. A lifetime hangs in that. It

:34:03. > :34:08.is wide, the set was a little wiser. It was not in the slot so he had to

:34:09. > :34:14.adjust on as a result it goes just wide of the mark. It just has to

:34:15. > :34:18.jump to his left. The finest of margins. The court has gone to

:34:19. > :34:30.Bruno, has it? I did not see what the yellow was

:34:31. > :34:40.for. I believe he's arguing the handset. Again, the Brazilians have

:34:41. > :34:46.an extremely sensitive opinion of what a handset should look like and

:34:47. > :34:50.is, so their interpretation sometimes you want to play with the

:34:51. > :34:54.first referee, get in their head and think -- make them think about it

:34:55. > :35:01.because you never know when the call could go your way. Just sharpening

:35:02. > :35:12.the first referee was like I'll is, perhaps. -- the first referee's I.

:35:13. > :35:20.Perhaps using the annoyance of receiving the yellow card of taking

:35:21. > :35:21.his frustration out on the ball. Again, Meeuwsen in the visitor to,

:35:22. > :35:40.just too much pace. What is crazy is it feels like

:35:41. > :35:46.Brazil is in control, but the Netherlands have not got anywhere.

:35:47. > :35:50.Point by point, side-by-side. I have to agree. A bit of confusion in the

:35:51. > :35:55.Brazilian ranks, but this order themselves out now. Just waiting for

:35:56. > :36:02.their opportunity. Now, this is an opportunity. If they can just sneak

:36:03. > :36:13.one more point it would make life a little easier for them. Just the

:36:14. > :36:17.sides as required. That is an interesting call because it seemed

:36:18. > :36:21.as though he made the call before Meeuwsen even left the ground. I

:36:22. > :36:36.think it came from the second referee. He did, he got it on the

:36:37. > :36:45.way up. Ran right into this one. That is some movement from Brouwer,

:36:46. > :36:49.but advantage Brazil. No challenge. There is a call for a challenge.

:36:50. > :36:56.They have to. It seemed as though the Netherlands, there is a

:36:57. > :37:06.lacklustre on this side of the net. Just in the pursuit of that ball.

:37:07. > :37:14.You still want to say mentally sharp even on a play like that. It is

:37:15. > :37:17.still too close for a free ball to go wide. Unsuccessful challenge,

:37:18. > :37:34.17-16. Good answer, Meeuwsen. They are

:37:35. > :37:42.hanging in there. One point for a side switch, sometimes just walked

:37:43. > :37:51.the other side can allow you to have a little meeting with yourself and

:37:52. > :38:00.how the rest of the search will go. -- set. He finally makes one,

:38:01. > :38:09.Brouwer. But they cannot convert it. It is a great dig. No fault to

:38:10. > :38:18.Meeuwsen, he has the swing at this on two blind, in case he got a

:38:19. > :38:25.chance of it in the block. If he didn't get a piece of it in the

:38:26. > :38:31.block, you want to looks set that up.

:38:32. > :38:40.Bruno just going for the line in his jump topspin consistently beating up

:38:41. > :38:53.Brouwer. Half a touch, it is still alive. Long. That is the point on

:38:54. > :38:54.serve that they needed. Side out required for the match now for

:38:55. > :39:10.Brazil. Incredible play by Brunel. Forcing

:39:11. > :39:16.Meeuwsen to get sharper and as long as they get hands on balls and keep

:39:17. > :39:19.the ball in play, there is a mental where that happens for you think you

:39:20. > :39:21.have to be better each time out and eventually you write a real estate

:39:22. > :39:26.and it causes unforced errors. So, time-out at 19-17 to Brazil.

:39:27. > :39:49.They are under real pressure here. The Dutch need to side out and then

:39:50. > :39:53.win a point on their own serve. What has the interesting is the world

:39:54. > :39:58.wanted to know how Brazil would perform in front of their own. In

:39:59. > :40:05.front of 12,000, the majority cheering for Brazil. What has been

:40:06. > :40:09.nice to see is Alison has invited them in rather than feeling the

:40:10. > :40:21.pressure of them, he has used the crowd to his advantage.

:40:22. > :40:32.It is a way. It is three match points. Three points separating

:40:33. > :40:42.Alison and Bruno from a date with the gold medal match.

:40:43. > :40:50.He finds that one crosscourt, Brouwer. They are hanging on, the

:40:51. > :40:55.Dutch. But the Netherlands needs to Macs excess of points that makes

:40:56. > :41:00.successive points or they will battle for bronze. What you need is

:41:01. > :41:05.short-term memory loss, the point before the fact he's caught that

:41:06. > :41:11.last point, you almost want a fresh start, go at its brand-new. Big

:41:12. > :41:22.serve on that point but it had to be, Alison to win it, the block is

:41:23. > :41:27.good. Each point stands alone. Yes, Meeuwsen! He needed the block and

:41:28. > :41:30.has come up with it. Block number six. But they still need another

:41:31. > :41:44.point, third match point. Another monstrous serve, he has done

:41:45. > :41:49.it again! That is the serving for you don't want to be too concerned

:41:50. > :41:53.about the errors and faults at the beginning of this set because once

:41:54. > :41:58.Brouwer found his groove, they are in trouble. What they are doing is

:41:59. > :42:05.forcing Brazil out wide and making the blocking much easier because,

:42:06. > :42:10.and there comes the fault. What they are doing is they are forcing Brazil

:42:11. > :42:18.wives, making Meeuwsen's job on the net slightly easier in terms of the

:42:19. > :42:31.angles he has to cover. Match point. Number of four. Fight it off. Hats

:42:32. > :42:40.off to Brouwer and Meeuwsen. Just to get this far from 17-20 down. He

:42:41. > :42:54.looks relaxed. Smiles about it. Again, they go out wide to Alison,

:42:55. > :42:59.and again, that is the third time in four points they've done that play.

:43:00. > :43:03.The cut served Alison's left, forcing him wide so he can all legal

:43:04. > :43:08.crosscourt, not down the line from that angle. It is a very difficult

:43:09. > :43:17.shots to go down the line from that angle. Third time in four points. It

:43:18. > :43:23.is set points to the Netherlands. My word! Massive round of applause for

:43:24. > :43:29.the Netherlands! How on earth have they managed to pull that back? Is

:43:30. > :43:37.saved four match points. This is a big ask of Alison and Bruno. No

:43:38. > :43:40.doubt, the pressure is on them. Now, are they carrying the weight of the

:43:41. > :43:50.12,000 in this arena? Going which is to come to me you had match point

:43:51. > :43:52.time and time and time again. Talk about some major guts from Brouwer

:43:53. > :44:03.and Meeuwsen. Real drama in the beach volleyball.

:44:04. > :44:10.And gone in the track cycling as well on BBC One. It is gold for

:44:11. > :44:13.Laura Trott. She has made history tonight and retained the gold-medal

:44:14. > :44:18.from four years ago in a women's on and she is now the first British

:44:19. > :44:24.woman to have four Olympic gold medals. We are looking at someone

:44:25. > :44:28.who has done something no British woman has done before. No one in

:44:29. > :44:32.history has ever won four, Laura Trott has succeeded the night. On

:44:33. > :44:34.the track. There could be more medals to follow from Becky James in

:44:35. > :44:45.the sprint final later on. Loads of boxing for you tonight on

:44:46. > :44:52.the red button. We're diving live in a few minutes. In about 15 minutes.

:44:53. > :44:57.There's quite a bit of Team GB action in the boxing ring. Joshua

:44:58. > :45:03.Buatsi and Joe Joyce going later on tonight. You can watch that on the

:45:04. > :45:07.red button at 10. 30 and 10. 45pm. We'll bring you the outcome of this

:45:08. > :45:11.match later on as well. We're going to stay here. We might not be able

:45:12. > :45:15.to see it through to the end, but it's real drama at the beach

:45:16. > :45:19.volleyball arena. Brazil with three match points, but the Netherlands

:45:20. > :45:23.drag today back. We go to -- dragged it back. We go to the deciding set.

:45:24. > :45:28.Remember, it's to 15 in the deciding set, not all the way to 21. First to

:45:29. > :45:36.15 by two clear points will be into the Gold Medal match.

:45:37. > :45:45.COMMENTATOR: This time he makes it. Brouwer has been consistent with

:45:46. > :45:50.that jump topspin down-the-line. He's dancing with the devil out

:45:51. > :45:55.there. Making Alison go drop a knee and get

:45:56. > :45:59.up and tick a swing. That time burying it down-the-line.

:46:00. > :46:07.They're rattled, I think, the Brazilians here. Quickly, third set,

:46:08. > :46:12.first to 15, or two clear points. Oh, it doesn't drop. Side switches

:46:13. > :46:19.every five rather than seven. No technical time-out.

:46:20. > :46:33.Wow. They stuck with it. What I really appreciate is it's high risk,

:46:34. > :46:36.high reward. After Alison buried it down-the-line, the point before,

:46:37. > :46:42.Meeuwsen still stays committed with his angle block. Brouwer trying to

:46:43. > :46:50.slide into that line. It works for him again. I've lost count now, is

:46:51. > :46:58.that five now? Five since 2017 in the -- 20-17 in the second set? No

:46:59. > :47:07.faults. Alison Bruno asked for a challenge. That was on a net fault.

:47:08. > :47:16.Meeuwsen was clean. Five blocks in the last 11 points.

:47:17. > :47:24.Alison has to go with the little tip. He's missed it. Brouwer has

:47:25. > :47:29.miss today. They're extending -- Brewer has missed it. They're

:47:30. > :47:35.extending Alison and their comfort zone. They're stretching it. Brouwer

:47:36. > :47:42.knows that that's where he wants to go. He's having to reach all the way

:47:43. > :47:45.out over his head for that ball. Alison almost beating himself up

:47:46. > :47:51.because he can't make his plays. That will do him the power of good.

:47:52. > :47:56.He's been under the cosh for the last ten points or so. Nothing much

:47:57. > :48:02.has gone right for him. He comes up with a big play. Could have squeezed

:48:03. > :48:14.through his arms that, but it doesn't.

:48:15. > :48:19.Finds the line. Interesting that they would change that up after they

:48:20. > :48:22.scored the last two points on Brouwer. Brouwer missing wide and

:48:23. > :48:34.then getting blocked went away. Meeuwsen tagging the back line on

:48:35. > :48:42.its way out. Takes the pressure off his partner. That was very close.

:48:43. > :48:53.Slight hesitation. Not sure he would have had it any way. It was almost

:48:54. > :49:04.FAs - oh, it went through his hands. That's why Brouwer looked surprised.

:49:05. > :49:13.It's Alison's turn to come up with the big plays. He was enjoying

:49:14. > :49:18.inviting them in until four points from the end of the second set. It's

:49:19. > :49:34.a bit more of a picture of concentration now on Alison's face.

:49:35. > :49:43.The last representatives of Brazil in the men's competition are being

:49:44. > :49:46.given a stern test by the 2013 world champions. The Brazilian pair, the

:49:47. > :49:57.2015 world champions. The number one and two seeds

:49:58. > :50:04.slugging it out on Copacabana. There are small windows to score here.

:50:05. > :50:16.It's going to be interesting to see who recognises them.

:50:17. > :50:28.Alison makes his third block of the set.

:50:29. > :50:35.Up until that point it seemed to be a bit a slug fest. Brouwer tries to

:50:36. > :50:47.go angle high, angle over. The Dutch call a time-out. Trying to

:50:48. > :50:58.take the sting out of the Brazilian game. They dug deep to turn that

:50:59. > :51:00.second set around. They're going to have to dig deep here. Bottom half

:51:01. > :51:14.of the draw. A place in the Gold Medal match up

:51:15. > :51:18.for grabs. STUDIO: Don't get too annoyed. We

:51:19. > :51:27.are leaving it at this point, with good reason. We're bringing you the

:51:28. > :51:30.three metre spring board final in a moment, featuring Jack Laugher. We

:51:31. > :51:35.will come back to this at this exact point later on. If you don't want to

:51:36. > :51:39.know what happens we'll show you later on BBC Four. We leave it here

:51:40. > :51:44.with Brazil leading 7-6 in the deciding set. We are going to go

:51:45. > :51:49.diving. Look at that shot, by the way, beautiful season tonight in Rio

:51:50. > :51:54.de Janeiro. I know that's still not proof we're on Copacabana, for those

:51:55. > :52:00.who don't believe we are and we're actually on a UK beach. Christ

:52:01. > :52:08.redeemer looking down on this beautiful city. One of the beaches

:52:09. > :52:12.that Christ redeemer looks down on. Fishermen live here. The beach

:52:13. > :52:17.spreads four kilometres down. The volley arena is all the way down the

:52:18. > :52:21.other end of this beautiful curve. We're going to diving now. Jack

:52:22. > :52:25.Laugher is involved in the three metre spring board. It's worth

:52:26. > :52:30.reminding you, earlier on in the Games he produced one of the British

:52:31. > :52:35.performances alongside Chris Mears to take the gold.

:52:36. > :52:49.Here come the Brits. First of six rounds for Jack Laugher and Chris

:52:50. > :52:53.Mears. Beautifully composed. This is excellent synchronisation. They're

:52:54. > :52:58.going to be top of the leaderboard after this.

:52:59. > :53:09.Yeah, tremendous. Our boys are still in the running.

:53:10. > :53:27.Yes! Yes! Yes! Are we getting excited or what here? China are not

:53:28. > :53:38.giving up. They're putting up a fight. This is the moment. Here we

:53:39. > :53:46.go. Yes! Come on! That is an Olympic medal for sure. Just the Chinese to

:53:47. > :53:54.follow. 95 wins it for China. Anything less, it is Great Britain

:53:55. > :54:01.gold. No, I don't think it's good enough. It must be gold. Surely it's

:54:02. > :54:08.gold. Oh, my word. It is gold. Pure gold! The boys are in tears,

:54:09. > :54:11.absolutely in bits. The emotion's taken over.

:54:12. > :54:15.We should be live through this diving all the way through, thank

:54:16. > :54:23.you for all your texts and tweets. We'll read some of those later on.

:54:24. > :54:28.Good evening to Helen skeleton. Good evening. Dan walker, lion

:54:29. > :54:32.Taylor and myself have been in the diving pool before and only one of

:54:33. > :54:37.us ended up with a black eye going off the ten metre board and it

:54:38. > :54:44.wasn't Dan! There's still time. We've seen Jack in his Gold Medal

:54:45. > :54:51.victory alongside Chris. The Synchro is a different competition. How

:54:52. > :54:55.different will it be? Jack is having an Olympic success come down. He's

:54:56. > :55:01.trying to get going again. He got six dives out of the way in the

:55:02. > :55:05.prelims. Semifinal, a real mixed bag again. He's made it through. He's

:55:06. > :55:10.start number one in the final, which isn't ideal. He has to do it from

:55:11. > :55:14.like lane eight in the athletics. Why isn't it ideal to go first? The

:55:15. > :55:18.judges aren't expecting the best divers to be. You dive in reverse

:55:19. > :55:22.order from the semifinals. Jack will have to work harder for his marks.

:55:23. > :55:26.As he's introduced behind me, he is one of the world's best and this is

:55:27. > :55:32.way open, Olympic champion, he's out of it. World champion, he's out of

:55:33. > :55:36.it. The guy who's top seed was Olympic Gold Medallist in platform

:55:37. > :55:40.four years ago. This is wide-open. Let's talk about some of the guys

:55:41. > :55:43.who haven't made it through to the final, notably, the defending

:55:44. > :55:47.champion, it's hard to cope a straight face, this is not funny,

:55:48. > :55:59.it's very serious. Talk us through what happened. Zakharov had a knee

:56:00. > :56:03.buckle. He landed on the end and all the power out of his knees. Zeer

:56:04. > :56:08.rows from the judges. That sometimes happens, even to the defending

:56:09. > :56:14.champion. It's difficult for people in this sport, because muck ups

:56:15. > :56:19.become a massive deal. Zakharov is the new Stefan Feck, more YouTube

:56:20. > :56:23.hits. That mess up in London got more hits than Usain Bolt winning.

:56:24. > :56:33.It's not just Jack Laugher that we have interest in the final. Oliver

:56:34. > :56:38.dinningly diving for -- Digley, Ireland's first diver ever. He'll be

:56:39. > :56:42.delighted. I wouldn't be surprise today Olly has done what he's ever

:56:43. > :56:47.dreamed of, in the Olympic final. I'm hoping he goes well. He's

:56:48. > :56:51.surrounded by the big guns. As his coach will be delighted. He's here.

:56:52. > :57:01.Damian used to coach Jack Laugher as well. Damian inadvertently has two

:57:02. > :57:05.in the final. Freddie Woodward dived brilliantly in the pre-limbs but

:57:06. > :57:09.didn't make it through to the final tonight. Jack Laugher, how do you

:57:10. > :57:13.rate his chances given what he's done this morning? He needs to get

:57:14. > :57:18.it together. He needs to do six out of six. Can't be messing up any of

:57:19. > :57:23.his dives. Each dive counts and if he's diving at his best, he'll be

:57:24. > :57:27.difficult to beat. He did say some really interesting things last night

:57:28. > :57:31.after the pre-limbs and this morning after the semifinals. Some worrying

:57:32. > :57:37.things I thought. Sure, you need to do what you need to do to get ready.

:57:38. > :57:40.He's had a chance to get over his massive success and he's got another

:57:41. > :57:45.job to do here. I believe he can do it. Can he hold it together up here?

:57:46. > :57:50.Can he manage his state and do it when it counts? I believe he can.

:57:51. > :57:56.Many others believe it. But does he? He is certainly one of the nicest

:57:57. > :57:59.young men. He spoke to Bob after this morning's semi-nines. Don't do

:58:00. > :58:07.this to us, because that was so tight. Yeah, no, it was the worst

:58:08. > :58:11.performance I've done in four years. Don't really have much to say about.

:58:12. > :58:15.It I scraped through. I saw that I was only two points behind so I knew

:58:16. > :58:19.I could still do it, finish on a higher degree of difficulty dive. It

:58:20. > :58:24.sucked most of the way through apart from the start really. I made the

:58:25. > :58:28.final, that's really where I go ball to the wall and give my everything.

:58:29. > :58:31.Is your head still in the moment of last week, that it's very difficult

:58:32. > :58:36.now to put yourself in the picture of the three metre individual? No. I

:58:37. > :58:43.don't think so. It's just I wanted to make the final very badly. After

:58:44. > :58:47.past Olympics and where I've been improving throughout my career, this

:58:48. > :58:53.is one I wanted to make it. I find the rounds of prelims and semifinals

:58:54. > :59:00.nervewracking. Now I'm in the final, I'm hopes to give it my all. You've

:59:01. > :59:03.had challenging conditions, the prelims with the wind, today with

:59:04. > :59:06.the sun. Does that have an impact? Yeah, of course. It's difficult to

:59:07. > :59:11.replicate those conditions in the UK. We've done a load of training, a

:59:12. > :59:15.two week camp in Florida and we've been here for two weeks. You'd have

:59:16. > :59:19.thought I would be more used to it. Clearly not. Hopefully it will be

:59:20. > :59:22.better tonight. What can we expect from you tonight? And what do you

:59:23. > :59:29.need to do to turn 12th place around to top three? I'm not holding back

:59:30. > :59:34.to be honest. My performance was reserved today. I'm anxious to make

:59:35. > :59:38.the final really. In the back of my head it's always been there. Now I'm

:59:39. > :59:43.in, it's about giving it everything I've got, all the training I've done

:59:44. > :59:46.over the past years, it will come tonight and hopefully I'm going to

:59:47. > :59:50.smash it. That was Jack Laugher. He's going
