:00:00. > :00:08.about to dive. Bob Ballard and Leon Taylor take us through this one.
:00:09. > :00:13.COMMENTATOR: Thank you, Helen. 12 divers, six rounds of dives. Jack
:00:14. > :00:18.Laugher not in a position he wanted but he's in there. He almost missed
:00:19. > :00:23.out, 2. 1 points he was away from not coming back this evening. Now
:00:24. > :00:27.this dive worked particularly well for him this morning. What a good
:00:28. > :00:32.thing it would be if he could get his campaign in the final under way
:00:33. > :00:49.with a good forward two-and-a-half somersaults with two twists.
:00:50. > :00:55.It is good from Jack. His synchronised partner Chris Mears is
:00:56. > :01:00.cheering him on. He is right on the end of the diving board, good
:01:01. > :01:04.height. But he is marginally short on vertical. I would like to see him
:01:05. > :01:11.score nine son this. I think he is going to come away with eights.
:01:12. > :01:23.86.70 is the marker from this morning. Eights will count towards
:01:24. > :01:26.this goal. It was an OK start. 64 yesterday on that, so it is a
:01:27. > :01:33.considerable improvement on where he was in the prelims. Now, this man
:01:34. > :01:43.was the surprise packet. He nearly didn't make it because of an
:01:44. > :01:48.appalling last dive in the semis. Morales has done exceptionally well
:01:49. > :01:53.to get into this final. He is a little inconsistent in training. He
:01:54. > :02:01.is either supersonic or stuck in reverse. This one is OK. He is only
:02:02. > :02:04.going to get sevens, because he rolls through the water and
:02:05. > :02:10.overrotates, his feet coming slightly apart. But of course, the
:02:11. > :02:19.judges do not get the benefit of the replay. That is just for all of us
:02:20. > :02:24.to enjoy. Not a great start for Morales. Now, here is a man who just
:02:25. > :02:33.missed out on a medal in London four years ago. He came fourth in London,
:02:34. > :02:34.eighth in Beijing. He will start with a lower tariff dive compared to
:02:35. > :02:53.Jack. So experienced, but actually making
:02:54. > :02:59.a huge error on his entry into the water. I am not sure what happened.
:03:00. > :03:04.The aerial work is, as usual, really classy. Everything is good, and as
:03:05. > :03:24.he reaches back, for some reason he throws up a load of splash. Like a
:03:25. > :03:35.volcano. Too many Alka-Seltzers. The rest of the band so far is Jack
:03:36. > :03:46.Laugher so far. Oliver Dingley got a bronze medal in the synchro.
:03:47. > :03:57.Superb from Ollie. The judges are looking for a vertical entry, with
:03:58. > :04:02.hardly any splash. And leading the did an excellent opening dive. Could
:04:03. > :04:10.be a little tighter into his pike shape. He is fractionally short of
:04:11. > :04:17.vertical. Apart from that, he is on the money. And if you are wondering
:04:18. > :04:22.about his switch of allegiance, his grandmother is Irish. That allows
:04:23. > :04:23.him to compete for Ireland, that first one since the Second World
:04:24. > :04:54.War. And his marks OK. Here comes the Ukraine diver. Don't
:04:55. > :04:59.get too close to the board. The judges will be keeping an eye on
:05:00. > :05:03.that. If anything, he was a bit too far away. He obviously heard you in
:05:04. > :05:08.the commentary position and thought, I need to move this dive away, so he
:05:09. > :05:11.shoves his backside back too far. The danger is that you don't get
:05:12. > :05:19.enough rotational speed to make the dive. So that was a mistake from
:05:20. > :05:24.Kvasha, who has been here many times before. He came eighth in London,
:05:25. > :05:31.but that is not going to help him. Know, a very unsteady start by some
:05:32. > :05:38.of the main protagonists so far. Now, we see the first of the two
:05:39. > :05:58.Americans. This is the man who was third in the synchro in 2012.
:05:59. > :06:04.Ipsen was very consistent, apart from one died in his semifinal. He
:06:05. > :06:10.was super consistent in the preliminaries. You can see how one
:06:11. > :06:16.mistake, which is all he made, can cost you so many places. He started
:06:17. > :06:20.with three simple dives and he got eights on all of them. I think this
:06:21. > :06:25.is about the same from an execution point of view. Bob has already
:06:26. > :06:38.explained how the judging works. The lines through don't count. In a
:06:39. > :06:46.moment, you will see Cesar Castro of Brazil. Just moving the fulcrum, the
:06:47. > :06:59.little wheel to adjust the tension and tax ability of the board. Well,
:07:00. > :07:01.if anything, he is very neat and tidy, albeit low on degree of
:07:02. > :07:08.difficulty compared to everyone else in this final. He is the grand old
:07:09. > :07:13.age of 33, and of course is very young, but it is grandad age in
:07:14. > :07:18.diving. He will not mind me saying, but he is in the Olympic final in
:07:19. > :07:23.his home country, and what an occasion for the very experienced
:07:24. > :07:30.Cesar Castro, at his fourth games. He will be happy with that opening
:07:31. > :07:39.score. It puts him just below Oliver Dingley. At the moment, Langridge
:07:40. > :07:50.and Bingley are one and two. Now from the oldest of the youngest.
:07:51. > :07:59.Philippe Gagne turns 19 in October. He is a great prospect for Canadian
:08:00. > :08:03.diving. Well, he was hot to trot in the prelims, and then he was a
:08:04. > :08:09.little wishy-washy in the semifinal, but got it together in the end. Only
:08:10. > :08:15.18 years old, nothing to lose, everything to gain. He is very
:08:16. > :08:29.classy when he gets it right. He just fractionally overrotates. Apart
:08:30. > :08:41.from that, very good. He slots into equal third place. I mentioned two
:08:42. > :08:55.Americans. Next is the 22-year-old Mike Hixon of the USA.
:08:56. > :09:08.He will open with their dive you see all the divers do. Hixon faltering
:09:09. > :09:16.slightly on the exit of his dive. He looked consistent in the prelims and
:09:17. > :09:20.semis, but there are a lot of time and also diving from last night all
:09:21. > :09:26.the way through to this evening. The pool looks fantastic. So it is under
:09:27. > :09:32.the spotlights. Just turning into a mini banana as he comes out. He will
:09:33. > :09:37.get caned by the judges. Yes, he and his coach will not like it and the
:09:38. > :09:44.judges definitely do not like it. That is the lowest mark we have seen
:09:45. > :09:48.so far for Hixon. Now, a man who already has two world medals under
:09:49. > :09:52.his belt. He has yet to get an Olympic one. Second in Barcelona in
:09:53. > :10:11.2013. He is definitely the danger man,
:10:12. > :10:18.with Zach flying out of the competition in dramatic fashion with
:10:19. > :10:23.that plant. It is all on this man. When he is on, he is difficult to
:10:24. > :10:28.handle. He was all over that like a spider monkey, spinning around and
:10:29. > :10:36.nowhere to hide. That is high-scoring. How are we doing on
:10:37. > :10:51.the Leon Taylor with the spider monkey bingo? Gentleman at the back?
:10:52. > :11:11.Well done, sir. Onto the incredibly impressive Rommel Pacheco of Mexico.
:11:12. > :11:19.I was about to start saying how wonderful his diving has been. He
:11:20. > :11:22.has been rocking and rolling. And then right on cue, Bob mentions how
:11:23. > :11:27.difficult it is to move a safe distance from the diving board.
:11:28. > :11:31.Rommel try to take his head off on this dive and then lands flat on his
:11:32. > :11:38.back because he stayed in the tuck shop for his own safety. Dangerous
:11:39. > :11:44.diving, and Pacheco, who has been in a medal-winning position for dive
:11:45. > :11:50.after dive, round after round, has just made it very difficult for
:11:51. > :11:53.himself to make it back. Was I not right to highlight it, though? No,
:11:54. > :12:05.just interesting that you highlight it and then he goes and shows you...
:12:06. > :12:10.What I am talking about! You mentioned that Kuznetsov might be
:12:11. > :12:19.the man to beat. He is a danger man. The smart money will be on this man,
:12:20. > :12:24.Cao Yuan of China. The Chinese are below their best at the moment, but
:12:25. > :12:31.not him. World class. I know him as a platform diver. He is only 21 and
:12:32. > :12:36.hasn't done anything on springboard. His team-mate who didn't make it
:12:37. > :12:52.through was a world champion. So this is wide open. A good opening
:12:53. > :12:58.dive from Cao Yuan. China go into the lead by a few points, but it is
:12:59. > :13:01.not a big lead. He did have a little falter in one of his dives this
:13:02. > :13:05.morning, so he wasn't exemplary all the way through. In fact, he was
:13:06. > :13:35.under 500 marks, which is unusual for the Chinese.
:13:36. > :13:49.Onto Round 2. Jack Laugher, reversed three and a half somersaults for the
:13:50. > :13:57.Britain. This morning, 47. Yesterday, 75. If he can get the
:13:58. > :13:58.best of those marks, he is really rocking and rolling, as Lyon might
:13:59. > :14:09.say. Still not sure about Jack's body
:14:10. > :14:28.language. Reverse three-and-a-half for Jack
:14:29. > :14:33.Laugher, joint second after round one. You can put the champagne on
:14:34. > :14:38.ice. Do not open it yet. Make sure it's nice and chilled. Because Jack
:14:39. > :14:44.Laugher has turned up to this final. I disagree his body language, he
:14:45. > :14:50.always looks like that. He's cool, composed. This is what he needs to
:14:51. > :14:55.do, he will get a handful of nines. If he gets over 90 poipts, he's
:14:56. > :14:58.letting his competitors know that he's finally shaken off his success
:14:59. > :15:05.in the synchro and he's into the jacuzzi. That's more like it.
:15:06. > :15:12.Nestling in nicely. 91 nor Jack Laugher. That is a big mark. Over on
:15:13. > :15:17.BBC One right now, you can see Becky James in the sprint final. You might
:15:18. > :15:18.have to do a bit of channel hopping between the diving and the sprint
:15:19. > :15:38.final. That's on BBC One. I like this guy's diving. Colombia
:15:39. > :15:44.aren't a renowned diving nation by any stretch. But this young man, 21
:15:45. > :15:47.years old, has been turning it on through the prelims, through the
:15:48. > :15:52.semis. He's a little bit inconsistent.
:15:53. > :15:56.There's lots that I like about his diving. Fractionally short as he
:15:57. > :16:09.went in. Best result so far have been on the
:16:10. > :16:12.one-metre board. No one metre in the Olympics.
:16:13. > :16:35.There is in the World Championships. I'm a little disappointed. That is
:16:36. > :16:44.an amazing dive but Jonny Howson can do this -- Patrick Housding can do
:16:45. > :16:51.this in the pike position. This is a little bit safe. He can do this dive
:16:52. > :16:55.piked and score eights from the judges. He's been having a bit a
:16:56. > :17:15.tough time from a performance point of view. But that gamble paid off.
:17:16. > :17:41.Two out of two for Oliver Dingley, yes. As David says. This is still a
:17:42. > :17:46.Yorkshire-fest. They're smashing it. Two out of two for Laugher, two out
:17:47. > :17:52.of two for Dingley. This is good, good divering. That's a big story,
:17:53. > :17:57.over 80 points because of the 3. 4 degree of difficulty. Nice work.
:17:58. > :18:04.Very nice work indeed. He'll be happy. His face may belie that. But
:18:05. > :18:23.he's concentrating on what's to come.
:18:24. > :18:31.We already had a restart because of somebody making noise earlier on
:18:32. > :18:42.today. Much better than earlier. He opened up poorly in this final. By
:18:43. > :18:48.his standards. He's on the end of the board. I thought he was over to
:18:49. > :18:52.the side there, leaning sideways. Getting that dive down, a lowish
:18:53. > :18:56.degree of difficulty at 3. 1, compared to some of the other dives
:18:57. > :19:06.in his list and certainly some of the other dives in the other guys'
:19:07. > :19:08.lists of dives. They must do forward, backward, inward, reverse
:19:09. > :19:21.and twist and another one of their choice.
:19:22. > :19:34.There's noisy people in the crowd tonight. They haven't got the diving
:19:35. > :19:41.etiquette down pat yet. Test book diving, isn't it? -- text
:19:42. > :19:46.book. Lowish degree of difficulty. If you're playing safe, you need to
:19:47. > :19:51.absolutely drill your entry, vertical, splashless. Nines coming
:19:52. > :19:59.Ipsen's way. It needs to be that good to keep up with the higher
:20:00. > :20:04.degree of difficulty. Judges sometimes really push the envelope a
:20:05. > :20:15.bit a mark up in the final. They haven't really done that with Ipsen.
:20:16. > :20:17.This man, back in Athens, when Leon was getting his silver medal,
:20:18. > :20:38.finished ninth in this event. Very nice. It's marvellous diving.
:20:39. > :20:47.To see Cesar Castro finally get it together, after featuring in so many
:20:48. > :20:50.finals in graun prays, World Cups -- Grand Prixes, world cups, here is
:20:51. > :20:54.the place to do it. He's diving out of his skin in front of his home
:20:55. > :21:02.crowd. They're loving him. He's loving. It the judges are liking
:21:03. > :21:03.that too. Jack Laugher leading by 16 at the
:21:04. > :21:37.moment. Just imagine nal overrotation there.
:21:38. > :21:42.-- marginal. So impressed with this young man's diving. Pike shape, just
:21:43. > :21:49.look at that. No space between his chest and thighs. That is perfect.
:21:50. > :21:57.Just as I mention, a tad overrotating. Looking for the
:21:58. > :22:01.vertical, splashless entry. There's the grimmace which says, just a
:22:02. > :22:07.little overrotation. Not quite close enough for big marks. He's down the
:22:08. > :22:13.bottom at the moment in terms of those who've gone so far.
:22:14. > :22:15.The man would got a bronze medal in the one metre at the World
:22:16. > :22:44.Championships last year. He's a really, really good twister.
:22:45. > :22:48.He twists very, very quickly. He starts this dive off intending to do
:22:49. > :22:52.a double out, one-and-a-half somersaults into the double twists.
:22:53. > :22:56.He's like lightning through the double twist. Finishes off the dive
:22:57. > :23:02.beautifully. He has a little bit of making up to do after only 60 points
:23:03. > :23:08.on his round one dive. This is going to add 20 to that. So 80 points on
:23:09. > :23:13.this 3. 4. Silver Medallist in the three metre synchro here behind
:23:14. > :23:27.Laugher and Meares. Here's my tip to be there or there
:23:28. > :23:33.abouts at the end. He's been so solid. Snvm
:23:34. > :23:38.That's a cue for something to go wrong, isn't it? It's a bold
:23:39. > :23:48.statement you've just made. I don't know whether I fully agree with you.
:23:49. > :23:52.Sometimes, he's like super on it. Other dives, he looks like he's
:23:53. > :23:58.standing at baggage claim and doesn't know what's going on. Today,
:23:59. > :24:02.so far, he's been good in semis. Little bit inconsistent. So far in
:24:03. > :24:04.this final he's brought his A game. He is a danger man. So you do agree
:24:05. > :24:17.with me then? Well, danger man. He goes into second place above
:24:18. > :24:52.Oliver Dingley. Pacheco's really shaken after his
:24:53. > :24:57.opening round dive, coming in as almost top qualifier. Nearly took
:24:58. > :25:01.his head out on the inward, narrowly missing the board and scalping
:25:02. > :25:09.himself. Now he's faltering on his very easy dive, back two-and-a-half,
:25:10. > :25:12.pike position. Scaffolding that was holding him up is starting to
:25:13. > :25:21.wobble. I think we can write him off now. Yeah, it looks o that way.
:25:22. > :25:33.I think his race is as good as run. He had very good prelims. Excellent
:25:34. > :25:49.semifinal. But when it matters, that's now.
:25:50. > :26:01.That's so much better, sensational from Yuan Cao. He made a pig's ear
:26:02. > :26:07.of this in the semifinal. He is bang on the end on this dive. Up, up and
:26:08. > :26:10.away, three-and-a-half twists, one-and-a-half somersaults, 3. 5
:26:11. > :26:15.degree of difficulty and this is going to be a 90-pointer to go with
:26:16. > :26:20.his 85 in the first round. This is our man to beat. In fact, he wasn't
:26:21. > :26:24.really on the end on that, but he did a much better job. That
:26:25. > :26:31.splashless entry hypnotises the judges. They give them nines, quite
:26:32. > :26:45.right too. Case of catch me if you can, boys. I've got a lead.
:26:46. > :26:50.Have you seen the crowd. They're doing samba dancing over there. It's
:26:51. > :26:57.quite an atmosphere in here this evening. Pleased to see lots of
:26:58. > :27:01.support for Brazil, Mexico, Germany and of course, Jack and Olly, their
:27:02. > :27:05.families are here. They're not disappointing. They're not.
:27:06. > :27:24.Yorkshire's best. You can't beat it. Right Jack, what did he do this
:27:25. > :27:29.morning with this one, 81. 6. He could do with that this time around.
:27:30. > :27:33.This is the dive that has worked well for him in the prelims and the
:27:34. > :27:50.semis. Shhh... Just stating a fact.
:27:51. > :27:56.This inward three-and-a-half has been good. That's the only problem
:27:57. > :28:02.with being the first one up is you do have a bit of a wait.
:28:03. > :28:05.The preparation is so important. You go through the same process each
:28:06. > :28:41.time. Yes! Get in. Tremendous third-round
:28:42. > :28:46.dive from Jack. This is exactly what we wanted. Easy like Sunday morning.
:28:47. > :28:55.He has tons and tons of time. Coming out of the dive, splashless entry,
:28:56. > :29:02.nines coming this young man's way. Jack is following Yuan Cao. They
:29:03. > :29:06.agree. They like it very much. He did that dive time and time again in
:29:07. > :29:10.practice today. I was watching. It he nailed it every single time. I
:29:11. > :29:12.didn't want to say that before the dive. I watched him do that five or
:29:13. > :29:33.six times, at least. Reverse three-and-a-half for
:29:34. > :29:37.Morales.. He will be having lots of problems if he comes any closer to
:29:38. > :29:43.the diving board. Oh, my word. There's been so many divers in this
:29:44. > :29:48.contest coming incredibly close to the diving board. We can't blame it
:29:49. > :29:52.on the weather conditions. That is shonkey technique. That is
:29:53. > :29:59.dangerous, look at this. That anning sl even worse. That is not good --
:30:00. > :30:04.that angle is even worse. That is not good. Judges should heavily
:30:05. > :30:12.penalise this. They're supposed to give two marks for those dives. It
:30:13. > :30:17.is judges' discretion. If it's dangerous they should be giving
:30:18. > :30:25.maximum mark of two. That looked dangerous to me.
:30:26. > :30:37.They have been instructed to give two marks if it looks dangerous, and
:30:38. > :30:43.that did. This was a heck of a dive to do, two and a half somersaults,
:30:44. > :30:47.two and a half twists. He is the only diver that chooses to do this.
:30:48. > :30:52.He has helicopter fleet going on there. His feet are split, spinning
:30:53. > :30:57.around. It's a little bit scrappy, but I think he has pulled it off
:30:58. > :31:04.well enough for sevens. It is a huge dive. He has just about pulled it
:31:05. > :31:12.off. That hurdle step worries me every time on that dive. He goes
:31:13. > :31:24.into second place, but the lead between Hausding and Laugher is 31
:31:25. > :31:25.points at this stage. This man is definitely exceeding our
:31:26. > :31:43.expectations. Not his, I'm sure. It is another top-notch effort from
:31:44. > :31:51.Ollie Dingley. Not quite as good as his second-round dive. He is a safe
:31:52. > :31:58.distance from the diving board. Good shape, just doesn't keep all the
:31:59. > :32:06.splashdown. He will get sevens for that. It is still good. Just losing
:32:07. > :32:13.a bit of tension as he went through. One judge didn't like it, but
:32:14. > :32:16.everyone else did. The marks with lines through don't count, so those
:32:17. > :32:27.scores were good. Here is a man who is giving us licorice
:32:28. > :32:44.all sorts today. You never know what you will get.
:32:45. > :32:51.Well, whatever your favourite suite is, that is what this round throws
:32:52. > :32:57.up for you. Kvasha, doing his most complicated dive. He sometimes makes
:32:58. > :33:04.a dog 's dinner of it, but not today, not in this final. He moves
:33:05. > :33:09.right to the corner of the border and then comes back to the centre.
:33:10. > :33:14.Eights are coming his way. I like the ones with the pimples. Fair
:33:15. > :33:19.enough! I prefer a more luxury suites. Get you, darling! Onto the
:33:20. > :33:51.first of the two Americans. It is a good dive from Ibsen. --
:33:52. > :33:52.Ipsen. He is a technician, and he just lets that marginally
:33:53. > :34:05.overrotates. He had this huge smile during his
:34:06. > :34:12.introduction, and it is back. It can be pretty exhausting, dive after
:34:13. > :34:20.dive, the stress, the anxiety, the expectation. And what expectation on
:34:21. > :34:21.this man's shoulders. He is carrying the whole country of Brazil at the
:34:22. > :34:41.moment. That is his highest degree of
:34:42. > :34:45.difficulty. He needs a huge take-off on this. In fact, he needs to be
:34:46. > :34:51.like the Silver, his team-mate in the pole vault, going up, up under
:34:52. > :34:59.way, giving himself enough time to come out of the dive. He is neat and
:35:00. > :35:03.tidy. They like it. Good hair! If any of you don't know what Bob
:35:04. > :35:12.Ballard looks like, he looks like that! Kind of Rod Stewart from the
:35:13. > :35:18.1970s, that her. Wait till you see the hat of the American later.
:35:19. > :35:28.Sounds like we are doing as got! Castro moves into fifth. Our current
:35:29. > :35:44.leader is Jack Laugher. Philippe Gagne potentially showing
:35:45. > :35:49.his inexperience. The Olympic Games are like jigsaw sometimes. You have
:35:50. > :35:53.to get it together and sometimes you have to give it another go. That is
:35:54. > :35:59.what will happen with this man. Youngest in the final. He is not on
:36:00. > :36:05.his game here. Maybe he used up all his good dives to get here. A couple
:36:06. > :36:14.of missing pieces to that jigsaw. But we will see more of him. It is
:36:15. > :36:15.early days for him. There are maybe one or two more Olympics in his
:36:16. > :36:34.repertoire. I thought Mike Hixon might be
:36:35. > :36:49.pushing for top three, but he will have to do a few -- Herculean job to
:36:50. > :36:50.get anywhere near that now. He does so well.
:36:51. > :37:00.Just a little bit of splash being thrown up. But it is beautiful to
:37:01. > :37:11.watch him do this dive. Like clockwork, up, twist, smoothly into
:37:12. > :37:23.the water. If he was cleaner, with less splash, he would be getting
:37:24. > :37:32.nines. The American will go up a few places off the back of that. Can
:37:33. > :37:38.Kuznetsov do his most complicated dive? We will see this from Jack
:37:39. > :37:43.Laugher later. 3.9 degrees of difficulty. Think of the marks he
:37:44. > :37:53.can get if he nails this. It would be over 100 marks. It is pretty good
:37:54. > :37:59.for him, but I have never seen him score over 100 marks. Has he gone
:38:00. > :38:06.from contender to pretender with this dive? Is that going to keep him
:38:07. > :38:10.in the mix? It is a huge degree of difficulty. If the judges came him
:38:11. > :38:14.from being in the middle of the pool, which they have done
:38:15. > :38:22.previously, he will go from contender to pretender. Has my money
:38:23. > :38:39.gone, then? Evgeny Kuznetsov has let me down, big-time.
:38:40. > :38:53.Many Mexicans have made their way here to support Rommel Pacheco.
:38:54. > :39:10.Rommel has finally found his form, but I fear it is too late. Diving so
:39:11. > :39:24.well in the earlier rounds. Sadly, floundering in his first two dives,
:39:25. > :39:32.a bit like new mode and Dory. -- two and Dory. So Rommel has work to do.
:39:33. > :39:54.Three to go after this. The only diver below him is Morales,
:39:55. > :39:59.and there are plenty above him as we get to the last diver. This will
:40:00. > :40:03.signify halfway through the final of the men's three metres springboard.
:40:04. > :40:21.Our leader has not put a foot wrong so far, Cao Yuan of China. He is
:40:22. > :40:25.superior. Wow! Wow, wow, wow. Whatever he was doing by rubbing his
:40:26. > :40:30.eyebrows, it certainly worked, because this is bang on the money.
:40:31. > :40:46.3.5 degrees of difficulty, and he is just so sharp into the water. He is
:40:47. > :40:47.the man to beat, out in the lead. It was rammed to that let him down in
:40:48. > :41:30.the semifinal. -- Round 2. So we are halfway in the men's three
:41:31. > :41:41.metres springboard final. Jack Laugher, 81, 91 and 90 so far.
:41:42. > :41:47.Forward during the half with three twists is
:41:48. > :41:54.the biggest dive in his programme. I will reiterate again, as we get a
:41:55. > :42:02.nice, wide shot of the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre, passing over
:42:03. > :42:09.whether water polo and synchronised swimming have been. This is Jack's
:42:10. > :42:19.highest degree of difficulty. Let's do this. He hasn't yet done it to
:42:20. > :42:30.the extent that he can. So this would be a very good dive. I want to
:42:31. > :42:42.hear come on from Leon Taylor after this!
:42:43. > :42:53.Oh, it's good. It is good. He got caught a bit on that. Such a big
:42:54. > :43:00.dive, he is a bit stuck, so he has to re-Pike quite aggressively. He
:43:01. > :43:06.doesn't quite straighten up and then overrotates ever so slightly. Look
:43:07. > :43:11.at the muscle definition, being pulled every which way like he is in
:43:12. > :43:14.a tumble dryer. I am not sure which way the judges will go with that. He
:43:15. > :43:30.does a very good job considering the take-off. That is OK. They were not
:43:31. > :43:34.sure either. Because it has such a high degree of difficulty, that does
:43:35. > :43:47.bulk of the marks up. Still the best he has done with that dive, by the
:43:48. > :43:57.way. Jack will do this dive in the next round. Oh, dear. Well, that is
:43:58. > :44:07.our first surfboard moment here. Jumps up through the roof. You can
:44:08. > :44:11.see how easy it is to make mistakes. Morales goes right up into the sky
:44:12. > :44:16.like he is Batman, and then sadly doesn't know what to do with that
:44:17. > :44:21.great take-off and ends up over rotating, landing almost flat on his
:44:22. > :44:28.back, a little bit like a smack down that you would expect in wrestling.
:44:29. > :44:36.Not a great time to do WWE E4 Morales. He will go off rather
:44:37. > :44:58.disconsolately, because he has been good in the prelims and semis.
:44:59. > :45:07.Well, very nice. Very nice indeed. Is that going to keep him in
:45:08. > :45:15.contention? Such, such good technique. Correct distance from the
:45:16. > :45:20.diving board. Mechanically and biomechanically sound as a pound.
:45:21. > :45:30.Just not quite keeping all the splash down. If you get eights on a
:45:31. > :45:38.3. 4 that's what you get. Just grabbed seven points back off Jack
:45:39. > :45:39.Laugher. Still a big gap, though. 23 between Jack and Patrick
:45:40. > :46:06.Hausding. Yes. Well done Olly. That's four out
:46:07. > :46:13.of four. Look at the delight on his coach's face. Quite right too. I
:46:14. > :46:19.take my hat off. I wasn't sure whether Olly would be overwhelmed in
:46:20. > :46:26.this. I take my hat off to him, I should say. As I get funny looks as
:46:27. > :46:29.usual from my co-commentator! Oliver Dingley rocking and rolling. I
:46:30. > :46:34.wasn't looking at you at all. What are you talking about? You're making
:46:35. > :46:48.stuff up now man. I've got head phones on, not a hat. You said it!
:46:49. > :47:05.Bob has a top hat, and a pocket watch. Stop right there.
:47:06. > :47:15.Oh, he's on it. Stunning dive. That's the first in a few of these
:47:16. > :47:21.we will see in the remaining rounds. Kvasha opening dive let him down a
:47:22. > :47:29.bit. But he is making moves. Samba moves in fact. Nice. Count the
:47:30. > :47:37.somersaults, four-and-a-half of them. Beautiful vertical entry. This
:47:38. > :47:41.is going to be a huge score. He likes it. I like it. And the judges
:47:42. > :47:50.think this: They think very highly of it. The highest mark, second
:47:51. > :48:04.highest mark we've had. Cao Yuan had a 94.
:48:05. > :48:14.Well both these American divers know how to twist. Both of them electing
:48:15. > :48:21.to do this dive. They make easy work of it. Well, so beautiful to watch.
:48:22. > :48:30.When diving is done like this, it is so classy. So classy. Has someone
:48:31. > :48:39.just flicked a switch and this event has gone into another realm on the
:48:40. > :48:42.back of those last few dives. Might have left it a little too late to
:48:43. > :49:16.come to the party. We'll see. Very nice. The reason he gets that
:49:17. > :49:20.many points in Athens, they used to do the required dives and then the
:49:21. > :49:24.optional dives. It can be misleading when we look back at the points
:49:25. > :49:31.totals. But Cesar Castro is diving the best he's ever dived. This is
:49:32. > :49:37.his first Olympic final. He is here and diving at his very, very best. I
:49:38. > :49:41.was surprised to see him make it through the semifinals. The
:49:42. > :49:44.Brazilian fans are delighted he is here. He is performing tricks for
:49:45. > :50:05.them. Not been the night that Philippe
:50:06. > :50:14.Gagne would have hoped for when he stepped on the board.
:50:15. > :50:27.A little low to the water. Great balance. Good take-off. Just cuts in
:50:28. > :50:33.a little bit too soon. Then doesn't quite have enough time to finish the
:50:34. > :50:38.dive off. One of his better efforts in the final. It's a shame he didn't
:50:39. > :50:40.have a three-and-a-half metre platform to go off. That would have
:50:41. > :51:23.been ideal from that height. We've seen very good diving from
:51:24. > :51:29.this man. Great take-off. Fantastic board work. Superb aerial work, just
:51:30. > :51:35.marginally overrotating as he goes into the water. That will be costly
:51:36. > :51:41.from a points point of view. Opening up his chest as he goes in. Throwing
:51:42. > :51:47.up a bit of splash. The judges won't go above a seven, which is a shame.
:51:48. > :51:53.He did all the hard work. It's like being stuck in a salad spinner, just
:51:54. > :52:03.overrotating. Trying to get himself dry now.
:52:04. > :52:08.We had a side bet earlier this man might get into the medals. I don't
:52:09. > :52:30.think it will happen now. Oh, it's lovely. I don't know how
:52:31. > :52:34.else to describe that. I wasn't expecting such a good dive. On this
:52:35. > :52:39.one, he's been struggling all week on this. This is amazing. Only a few
:52:40. > :52:46.of the divers electing to do this dive. It's so difficult. Jack
:52:47. > :52:52.Laugher finishes on it. Wow. What a dive. Well, he's back in the running
:52:53. > :52:58.again, off the back of that. He certainly will be. He's into the top
:52:59. > :53:08.three. That's ninja-like diving. So precise. Remember, it is six rounds.
:53:09. > :53:24.There's a lot of ebb and flow. Well, Pacheco is diving well again,
:53:25. > :53:32.but first two rounds will have let him down. He has got a lot of work
:53:33. > :53:38.to do. 45 and 58 on the first two. 86 on the third round that. One will
:53:39. > :53:48.be up there, near 80 points. Well done. He will be poised if the
:53:49. > :53:53.front runners start to faulter. But he has left himself a bit too much
:53:54. > :53:56.to do. The other thing is, even though those marks are brilliant, he
:53:57. > :54:03.hasn't moved a place. He's still 11th.
:54:04. > :54:10.Despite that being a great dive and the one before it being impressive
:54:11. > :54:36.too, he hasn't moved an inch. This man rock solid in first place.
:54:37. > :54:46.Well, it's another tremendous dive. The only Chinese diver to make it
:54:47. > :54:50.through to this point. His team-mate and world champion exited the
:54:51. > :54:56.competition very, very early, which is a surprise to everyone. Cao Yuan
:54:57. > :55:03.hijacking this competition now. He is slamming down some serious
:55:04. > :55:08.scores. He's way out in front now. Just saying that it wasn't quite
:55:09. > :55:18.right. Maybe slightly short, a grow. But only 8. 8. 5 short. Hasn't gone
:55:19. > :55:21.down below 85 so far. Three in the 90s. That's why he has a sizeable
:55:22. > :55:58.lead at the end of round four. Now this is a dive that has to work
:55:59. > :56:05.for Jack. It has not done thus far. It's been his bogey dive in Rio. Not
:56:06. > :56:11.normally his bogey dive. Did very well in the synchro the other day.
:56:12. > :56:15.But individually, only 55 and 39 marks respectively from prelims to
:56:16. > :56:28.semis. That's the back of Tom Daley's head.
:56:29. > :56:35.He knows, as his coach knows, as you know and I know too, just important
:56:36. > :56:54.this dive is. This could be the difference between a medal and not.
:56:55. > :57:05.Yes! Outstanding. Again, just when he needed it. He digs to the bottom
:57:06. > :57:10.of his toy box or whatever he needed to go to pick that one out. This is
:57:11. > :57:14.superb stuff from Jack. Jumping Jack, look how high he goes, up into
:57:15. > :57:20.the air, disappearing into the water. This is way over 90 points.
:57:21. > :57:26.Jack is in the medals with a dive to go. Let's not get ahead of
:57:27. > :57:31.ourselves, but my word, he's finally settled down after the prelims and
:57:32. > :57:36.the semifinals. Look at those scores. Jumping jash flash is a gas,
:57:37. > :58:08.gas, gas. It's all working for Jack. It's a better one for Morales. He's
:58:09. > :58:15.been here and there this evening in the final. We look back at a montage
:58:16. > :58:24.of his dives, you will see the range of brilliance all the way through to
:58:25. > :58:28.things that aren't quite as good. He's only 21 years old. We're going
:58:29. > :58:33.to see this young diver from Colombia a lot more over the years.
:58:34. > :58:36.He is certainly knocking out some big degree of difficulty. Finds
:58:37. > :58:39.himself a bit shipwrecked today though. Look forward to seeing him
:58:40. > :59:04.at the worlds next year. Well, yes. My goodness, he was as
:59:05. > :59:09.high as sugar loaf mountain there. His board timing is exceptional. He
:59:10. > :59:14.goes up, up, up, up, way above the five metre, almost in line with the
:59:15. > :59:19.7. 5 metre. That is impressive stuff from our German. This is as good as
:59:20. > :59:24.Jack Laugher's if not marginally better. What a dive from Hausding.
:59:25. > :59:36.Fourth previously in the Olympic Games. Safe as Hausding. We're
:59:37. > :59:42.getting close to the three figures, will we see one in the competition?
:59:43. > :59:49.That's as close as we have come. Oliver Dingley. He used to represent
:59:50. > :00:00.England/Great Britain, now he's an Irish diver.
:00:01. > :00:09.That's the first slight mistake we've seen from Oliver Dingley,
:00:10. > :00:14.landed hanging ten, toes over the ebbed of the diving board -- end.
:00:15. > :00:20.Just toes creeping over the end. He needed to perform a little bit of
:00:21. > :00:23.jigery pokery to get that round, which he does, but not getting the
:00:24. > :00:28.entry he needs to get more than sevens. A bit of splash being thrown
:00:29. > :00:32.up. Still good diving from this young man. Great work.
:00:33. > :00:37.He would have had to hope for a lot of people to faulter to get a middal
:00:38. > :00:42.tonight, because his programme in terms of degree of difficulty,
:00:43. > :00:43.doesn't match the upper echelon. That's the lowest mark he's got
:00:44. > :01:01.tonight. Illya Kvasha is in third place. But
:01:02. > :01:19.this is a low degree of difficulty, which will punish him a bit. The man
:01:20. > :01:23.from Ukraine. Nothing to do with the man from Del Monte, the tinned
:01:24. > :01:32.fruits! He opened up his chest of it as he extends for the water. That
:01:33. > :01:34.will cost him. You can see the disappointment on his face. Wow, it
:01:35. > :01:46.is costly. And on the American. He is in range
:01:47. > :02:10.of the top three. A lot of noise there. But actually,
:02:11. > :02:15.he nailed it. He made a real hodgepodge of this in the semifinal.
:02:16. > :02:21.This was the only dive that he dropped. There was a shout, I'm not
:02:22. > :02:28.sure why or who it was. But that was a big dive. I don't think he will
:02:29. > :02:38.ask for a re-dive, because that is still very good. He is talking to
:02:39. > :02:53.his coach about it. Doesn't look as though it will happen, but he did
:02:54. > :02:57.ask. He is up into fourth. This fantastic war around the Maria Lenk
:02:58. > :02:59.Aquatics Centre. It is an old facility that has been carted up a
:03:00. > :03:16.bit. That is probably the first error he
:03:17. > :03:20.has made this evening. The degree of difficulty is low on all of his
:03:21. > :03:27.dives compared to the other athletes in this final. A bit of splash going
:03:28. > :03:32.away from the diving board. This will probably be his lowest scoring
:03:33. > :04:03.dive thus far. Now, Philippe Gagne. He has sadly
:04:04. > :04:13.been under par compared to where he was in the prelims and semifinals.
:04:14. > :04:24.He is just a bit off again. What a shame. He has been a delight to
:04:25. > :04:33.watch. Some exquisite efforts in the prelims and the semifinal. But not
:04:34. > :04:39.matching the form that got him here. Inexperience, maybe. Grimaces all
:04:40. > :04:50.round for this young Canadian talent. He will be back, I'm sure. A
:04:51. > :05:01.great experience for him, Olympic final at the age of 19. We have
:05:02. > :05:08.seen this next dive performed pretty well and also pretty abysmally. So
:05:09. > :05:19.where will Mike Hixon hitches trailer?
:05:20. > :05:27.There was a lot of risk. He makes an error on his take-off, leans too far
:05:28. > :05:35.forward. Only just get his feet on the end of the board. Does he get a
:05:36. > :05:42.good arm swing? He does a good job of hanging on. A bit of a tumbleweed
:05:43. > :05:49.moment from the crowd, especially from the American contingent. They
:05:50. > :05:54.know that is costly. He would have had his eyes on a prize, a minor
:05:55. > :05:59.medal at the least, with the way he has been diving. But he will have to
:06:00. > :06:03.make do with the silver he got the other day from the Synchro, which is
:06:04. > :06:09.still a good reward to take from Rio. We have seen the best and worst
:06:10. > :06:24.of Evgeny Kuznetsov tonight. He has been a bit of a surprise
:06:25. > :06:33.package for me this evening. You never know what to expect. That is
:06:34. > :06:38.not one of his best efforts this evening, but he has found himself in
:06:39. > :06:46.contention for the medals. He was in fourth place after the fourth round.
:06:47. > :06:58.Where will he be after this? P stays precisely where he was.
:06:59. > :07:04.Two more dives to go in the penultimate round before we can give
:07:05. > :07:15.you the standings at the end of Round 5.
:07:16. > :07:25.It is a good dive. A shame to see Rommel off the pace after he has
:07:26. > :07:27.been in the top three in the prelims and semifinals. It has been a
:07:28. > :07:56.merry-go-round. Back to the fairground for Pacheco.
:07:57. > :08:04.He moves up a place into tent. -- into tenth place. Seven is here for
:08:05. > :08:12.Cao Yuan, and he will leapfrog Jack Laugher again. Sevens or under, and
:08:13. > :08:22.Jack Laugher will be in first place, with one round to go.
:08:23. > :08:47.What a show we are seeing from this young man, only 21 years old. He
:08:48. > :08:59.will still be in front after this dive. He will be up in the '80s. And
:09:00. > :09:11.he has not been anywhere other than the mid-90s.
:09:12. > :09:20.It is 6.7, so that is a 15 point advantage over Jack Laugher -- 86.7.
:09:21. > :09:27.How does it look from a British perspective? There is Patrick
:09:28. > :09:40.Hausding. He's into third. And Jack Laugher is in second. It looks like
:09:41. > :09:46.it will be those three for the three medals. It does, they are a country
:09:47. > :09:51.mile out. Those are our three medallists. Unless something
:09:52. > :10:00.disastrous happens to the top three, the rest will be scrapping for
:10:01. > :10:11.places outside the top three. A little way to go before Hausding is
:10:12. > :10:22.in the position to dive. He has to make up 22 points on Jack Laugher.
:10:23. > :10:28.Jack Laugher have a 3.6. This is his favourite dive. He chooses to do
:10:29. > :10:32.this last. He has definitely found his gear this evening. One more to
:10:33. > :10:39.go for Jack Laugher. What colour medal will it be? The World
:10:40. > :10:46.Championship bronze medallist from last year in Kazan can go one place
:10:47. > :10:52.better, potentially two places better, than he did in Russia last
:10:53. > :11:08.year. But he has to finish what has been an exemplary programme.
:11:09. > :11:16.Yes! That is an Olympic medal for Jack Laugher. He has put that out of
:11:17. > :11:23.reach, I'm pretty sure Hausding can't catch him. This is good enough
:11:24. > :11:27.by Laugher. A monumental effort out there today. He was all over the
:11:28. > :11:31.place in the prelims and the semis, but that doesn't matter. We don't
:11:32. > :11:36.care! He has come out this evening and he has delivered. He is the
:11:37. > :11:47.mailman, he always delivers. That is two medals! He always has to wait
:11:48. > :11:55.ages for his marks. That is the best he has done in three rounds on his
:11:56. > :12:02.favourite dive. Patrick Hausding cannot catch him. The only person
:12:03. > :12:06.who can beat him is Cao Yuan. Jack Laugher has at least a silver to add
:12:07. > :12:10.to the gold in the Synchro a few days ago. What a competition that
:12:11. > :12:28.has been. What a week this has been for Jack Laugher in Rio.
:12:29. > :12:35.Sebastian Morales round it off in fine style. He has had a bit of an
:12:36. > :12:41.unfortunate outing in this final. He has had a few dives that have gone
:12:42. > :12:47.awry. This is a good one for him to finish. Got himself in a muddle on a
:12:48. > :12:51.few of his dives, particularly his fourth-round dive, where he only
:12:52. > :12:56.scored 34 points. This one will double that and a bit more. It is a
:12:57. > :13:07.strong finish from the 21-year-old Colombian.
:13:08. > :13:35.Hausding now looks to protect what he has, which is the place.
:13:36. > :13:47.-- third place. It is an easy bronze. Too much to do to catch Jack
:13:48. > :13:52.Laugher. Hausding has been consistent. First dive was a bit
:13:53. > :14:01.off. He scored 98 points on his last dive. The house are going to go wild
:14:02. > :14:09.when they see the scores. Hausding is a dead cert for the bronze. He
:14:10. > :14:14.will be really cross with himself after his opening dive went awry.
:14:15. > :14:21.Will he break 500? He will be quite close. He looks disconsolate,
:14:22. > :14:33.considering he will get at least third place. What a great finish by
:14:34. > :14:37.the German. Just left it to let after that poor 63 in the opening
:14:38. > :14:50.round gave 18 points away to Jack Laugher from the off. Oliver Dingley
:14:51. > :14:56.goes next for Ireland. It is a back two and a half somersaults with one
:14:57. > :15:12.and a half twists. He has done himself and Ireland proud today.
:15:13. > :15:19.Well ding-a-ling Dingley, amazing stuff from Olly. Amazing list of
:15:20. > :15:28.dives. Who'd have thought he'd be in the final? Wow. Yorkshire-fest. What
:15:29. > :15:32.a celebration. I bet they're all still up at home, cheering,
:15:33. > :15:39.celebrating and toasting, as they should be. Crack open the champagne.
:15:40. > :15:45.And have some nibbles while you're at it. Well done, Harrogate proud of
:15:46. > :15:50.you, Ireland proud of you. You know what, he's going to probably be in
:15:51. > :15:56.around the top six. That's fantastic. Only round five letting
:15:57. > :16:03.him down a bit. That's a very, very, very good performance. Now Kvasha
:16:04. > :16:07.will be thinking, well, I can't do anything really other than dive the
:16:08. > :16:27.best I can. Bronze is out of reach. Silver is out of reach.
:16:28. > :16:38.Oh, he's finished with a terrific final dive. I think it's too little
:16:39. > :16:42.too late. He would have needed 107 points to cash Hausding. I think Bob
:16:43. > :16:48.is right with his prediction. He will be just outside the medals. He
:16:49. > :16:49.also will be disappointed with the mistakes he made earlier in the
:16:50. > :17:07.programme. So he finishes, at the moment, in
:17:08. > :17:13.third. That will be knocked down to fourth because Cao Yuan is still to
:17:14. > :17:17.go at the end of the programme. He needs 74 to beat Jack Laugher. We're
:17:18. > :17:45.only halfway through. Zblt sirens go off again. Oh, super
:17:46. > :17:51.twisting. He did not use this in the semifinal. He saved this for the
:17:52. > :17:58.final. What an absolute warrior. What a dive. He's left himself too
:17:59. > :18:03.much to do to get into the medals. But that is a heck of a dive to
:18:04. > :18:08.finish on. That's probably the best effort we've seen on that dive
:18:09. > :18:11.today. What will he get on that? And will it make a difference to the
:18:12. > :18:19.places for fifth and sixth? Let's see. We wait and we finally get the
:18:20. > :18:24.answer. He actually knocks Illya Kvasha down a place with that.
:18:25. > :18:41.They're separated by 0. 7 of a mark. Big crescendo of noise around the
:18:42. > :18:45.Aquatic Centre for the last dive. It's not a particularly impressive
:18:46. > :18:49.one in terms of tariff. But it will be impressive for this crowd, who
:18:50. > :19:07.have been known to boo the judge it's they don't get what they like.
:19:08. > :19:17.What a dive to finish on. It's not the most complicated dive we've
:19:18. > :19:24.seen, but that was beautifully executed, so neat, so tidy. Fourth
:19:25. > :19:30.Olympic Games, Cesar Castro delivers in front of a home crowd, with all
:19:31. > :19:38.the expectation, he has performed to the very, very best of his ability.
:19:39. > :19:50.That's all you can ask for. Ninth after round five. Look at his face.
:19:51. > :19:58.Just taking it all in. Appearing and diving for your home crowd, bowing
:19:59. > :20:09.to all callers. Loving it. They're loving him. His coach fully
:20:10. > :20:14.appreciative of that. He'll be in the middle of the pack. Thanks to
:20:15. > :20:18.the Brazilian people and those who have supported him. Jack is chatting
:20:19. > :20:35.with Oliver Dingley about that medal.
:20:36. > :20:53.Such an elegant, classy diver. We are going to see so much more from
:20:54. > :20:58.this young Canadian. Very impressed with him, all the way through.
:20:59. > :21:05.Didn't quite get it right this evening in the final, but he earned
:21:06. > :21:12.his spot. Canada, who have lacked in quality for male divers for a number
:21:13. > :21:19.of years, this is the new man on the block. Great work. A lot of
:21:20. > :21:24.potential there. Came onto the scene at 15.
:21:25. > :21:35.His first Olympics out of the way with a 425. Placing eight or nine at
:21:36. > :21:41.the end. Mike Hixon threatened the likes of
:21:42. > :22:03.Hausding and Laugher. But it wasn't to be in the end.
:22:04. > :22:10.An underwhelming finish there from Hixon. He looked as though he might
:22:11. > :22:15.be a contender. Watching him dive, of course, already Olympic Silver
:22:16. > :22:21.Medallist in the three metre synchro. No individual medal for
:22:22. > :22:30.Hixon today. Some excellent diving throughout the rounds. Not quite on
:22:31. > :22:42.it in the final. So the final marks and the total mark for Hixon coming
:22:43. > :22:51.up. Yeah not the greatest from him. He finishes below Castro who makes
:22:52. > :22:56.up a place. This man might be in the shake up,
:22:57. > :22:59.but it wasn't to be for Evgenii Kuznetsov. He could get himself into
:23:00. > :23:26.the upper echelon of the 400s. Beautiful dive to finish on. He has
:23:27. > :23:31.only got four of his six dives right, faltering on round three and
:23:32. > :23:37.slightly on round five, which means he'll be outside the medals. It's
:23:38. > :23:40.all about consistency. Every single I do counts. He needed an impossible
:23:41. > :24:02.score to get into the medals. The Chinese diver still to come.
:24:03. > :24:06.That's his highest mark. But he finishes some 17 points behind
:24:07. > :24:08.Patrick Hausding. There are two more to go. The important one, of course,
:24:09. > :24:29.at the very end. The best he can hope for now, with
:24:30. > :24:47.eight-and-a-halves, he can get in the top seven. What a shame for him.
:24:48. > :24:52.He's retired to spring board. He is a phenomenal spring board diver. We
:24:53. > :24:57.saw that in the preliminaries and semifinals. He was making headway in
:24:58. > :25:01.the field and then he turned up to the final and sadly, first two dives
:25:02. > :25:05.were way off the running. He has not been able to catch up. That's a
:25:06. > :25:15.great final dive. Too little too late. What a shame for Pacheco.
:25:16. > :25:24.Seventh overall. 74 is the magic number for Cao Yuan. It's the dive
:25:25. > :25:30.you've just seen. It is fraught with danger. It is a very difficult dive.
:25:31. > :25:33.When it goes spectacularly wrong, it looks spectacularly bad. He did get
:25:34. > :25:41.91 points on this in the semifinals. He needs 74 to overtake Jack
:25:42. > :26:06.Laugher. Gold for China. Without a shadow of
:26:07. > :26:11.a doubt. Brans for that man there, Hausding and silver for Jack
:26:12. > :26:17.Laugher. Congratulations, because Cao Yuan did not look as though he
:26:18. > :26:24.was going to give that away. He has outclassed everyone. This will be a
:26:25. > :26:36.huge score. He will be 20-plus points clear, maybe even more than
:26:37. > :26:43.that. 523 for Jack Laugher. 523. 85. What are the final marks for Cao
:26:44. > :26:48.Yuan. 96. 90. He finishes on 5 #47. 47. . Not close in the end, 24
:26:49. > :26:53.points. There are the gold and Silver Medallists. Congratulations
:26:54. > :26:58.coming in from the Canadian coach. That is Chinese gold but Jack
:26:59. > :27:04.Laugher has a silver to add to the gold he got in the synchro with
:27:05. > :27:16.Chris Mears just a few days ago. Only two went over 5 hup 00. We --
:27:17. > :27:20.500. What a competition that was and isn't it great that Jack Laugher
:27:21. > :27:26.brought his A game to the final, well below par in the prelims. Very
:27:27. > :27:31.much below par in the semifinals. When the final came round, every
:27:32. > :27:38.mark, aside from round four, when he was slightly off, I do mean
:27:39. > :27:42.slightly, everything else, from Jack Laugher and a final mark of 523. Are
:27:43. > :27:48.we having another marriage proposal there? I don't know. Already one for
:27:49. > :27:58.the Chinese. It's gold most definitely. There's Andy Banks in
:27:59. > :28:06.the midst of it all. Well, that is fantastic. Three medals now for
:28:07. > :28:16.Great Britain. Best return ever and Tom Daley's still to come. We have
:28:17. > :28:18.the ladies to go in the ten metre. Prelims tomorrow and Tonia Couch and
:28:19. > :28:35.Sarah Barrow going in that. One more thing to wrap up for you is
:28:36. > :28:39.where Oliver Dingley finished up. Not in the top six, but a very good
:28:40. > :28:42.performance by the former Englishman, now representing
:28:43. > :28:52.Ireland, and of course from Harrogate. Oliver Dingley very good
:28:53. > :28:57.dinningly, 442 in eighth place. STUDIO: Big thank you to Bob and
:28:58. > :29:03.Leon there. What a performance from Jack Laugher, a gold and a silver at
:29:04. > :29:09.these Games. Gold along with Chris Mears, his partner, in the synchro
:29:10. > :29:13.spring board an a silver. As Bob was saying there, just squeezed into the
:29:14. > :29:17.final. Qualified 12th and then produced the goods when it really
:29:18. > :29:22.mattered. That is Team GB's 50th medal of these Games. We'll show you
:29:23. > :29:26.the medal table and get more reaction from Jack Laugher,
:29:27. > :29:31.hopefully his diving partner Chris Mears is there as well. Leon Taylor
:29:32. > :29:37.is making his way to speak to Helen as well. We will bring you the
:29:38. > :29:40.ceremony as well. On a crazy day, terrific Tuesday, tremendous
:29:41. > :29:43.Tuesday, whatever you'd like to call it, it's been a marvellous day 11 at
:29:44. > :29:51.these Gamesment Let's bring you up to
:29:52. > :30:01.date, Jason Kenny has taken gold in the men's Kieran, the sixth gold,
:30:02. > :30:05.and the bronze as well. Laura Trott, his fiance, a wonderful night for
:30:06. > :30:09.her too. Gold in the Omnium, a dominant performance. Her fourth
:30:10. > :30:17.gold of her career. More than any other British woman. They are the
:30:18. > :30:23.golden couple. It didn't end there. Becky James silver in the women's
:30:24. > :30:30.sprint. Kirsten Vogle won the gold. There was a bronze in the same event
:30:31. > :30:32.for Katie Marchant. Every member of Team GB's track cycling team has won
:30:33. > :30:38.at least one medal at these Games. and a half twists. He has done
:30:39. > :30:50.himself and Ireland proud today. And the medals continue, because in
:30:51. > :30:56.the sailing, there was a gold for Giles Scott. It was guaranteed
:30:57. > :30:59.yesterday, confirmed today in the medal race. That as a fifth straight
:31:00. > :31:06.Games on the trot that there has been gold in the Finn class in the
:31:07. > :31:10.sailing. That was followed, you've guessed it, by another gold for
:31:11. > :31:12.Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark. And we have just seen Jack Laugher take
:31:13. > :31:24.silver in the three metre springboard. There were two bronzes
:31:25. > :31:29.in the gymnastics, the final day of the gymnastics. Amy Tinkler took
:31:30. > :31:33.bronze on the floor. Simone Biles of the USA won the gold. And Nile
:31:34. > :31:41.Wilson, the first Briton to ever reach a final in the higher bar,
:31:42. > :31:52.took the bronze as well. Let's show you the medal table.
:31:53. > :32:04.Team GB were third in the medal table overall in London four years
:32:05. > :32:12.ago, when they won 65 medals. They already have 16 more medals than
:32:13. > :32:16.they had in Beijing eight years ago. Thank you so much for all the texts
:32:17. > :32:20.and tweets you have been sending. I know Milik -- normally at this
:32:21. > :32:24.point, we are talking about binmen and having fun, but we have medals
:32:25. > :32:28.to talk about! Jack Laugher, smashing the diving, what a night to
:32:29. > :32:35.be British, says Lee. Another says diving is my new favourite Olympic
:32:36. > :32:40.sport. Another says, how is Laugher pronounced law? He can pronounce his
:32:41. > :32:45.name however he likes if he is going to win medals! Keep those coming in.
:32:46. > :32:50.On BBC Four, we do like the hashtag and a bit of Copacabanter. We are
:32:51. > :32:54.going to get back to the diving as soon as we can to bring you Jack
:32:55. > :32:57.Laugher's medal ceremony. We will also get information from Leon
:32:58. > :33:02.Taylor, who is making his way down beside Helen Skelton. And hopefully,
:33:03. > :33:10.his diving partner Chris Mears will also join us. What have we got
:33:11. > :33:15.behind us? Antony Worrall Thompson has turned up, fans of BBC Four.
:33:16. > :33:20.Normally at this time of the night, he is here. He has joined the
:33:21. > :33:24.circuit training. Some people think it is definitely not him. I think we
:33:25. > :33:29.need to get the real Worrall Thompson, if it is not him, to prove
:33:30. > :33:35.that he is not in Rio. As soon as we get back to the diving, we will
:33:36. > :33:39.bring you that. We are not just filling with a bit of Antony Worrall
:33:40. > :33:45.Thompson! But I know how important the years to so many of our BBC Four
:33:46. > :33:51.viewers. -- how important he is. Over the next few hours, we have
:33:52. > :33:55.some boxing from Team GB, with two boxers going for medals. That is to
:33:56. > :34:00.come later. They were fighting during the diving. We will show you
:34:01. > :34:04.both their fights. We saw Joe Joyce a few days ago on BBC Four, being
:34:05. > :34:08.brilliant. The other sport we need to tidy up for you is the beach
:34:09. > :34:13.volleyball. Earlier, we saw Brazil's top seeds, the women, losing in
:34:14. > :34:23.their semifinal. So they miss out on a chance for a gold or silver medal,
:34:24. > :34:26.but we will show you the last few points in the deciding set of
:34:27. > :34:29.Brazil's men, the top seeds taking on the Dutch. We left it at 1-1, the
:34:30. > :34:32.Brazilians leading 7-6 in the deciding set. At some stage, we will
:34:33. > :34:36.pick that up in that deciding set. As promised, let's get back to the
:34:37. > :34:40.diving. All we know for sure is that Jack Laugher has his second medal of
:34:41. > :34:44.the games, a silver in the individual three metre springboard
:34:45. > :34:48.to after the gold he won with Chris Mears in the Synchro. We can go
:34:49. > :34:56.poolside and join Helen Skelton, who I think is alongside a very happy
:34:57. > :35:01.Leon Taylor! Smiles everywhere. Leon Taylor is always chatting away. He
:35:02. > :35:04.is the most charming man in diving, although it was a charming
:35:05. > :35:12.performance from you, Oliver Dingley. How was it? It was amazing.
:35:13. > :35:15.My first Olympic final. I did it with Jack Laugher, who is from
:35:16. > :35:22.Harrogate. It was like a family effort. And to be part of that in an
:35:23. > :35:25.Olympic final, I had to do three consistent rounds. People were
:35:26. > :35:29.dropping all over the place yesterday. The wind is really picked
:35:30. > :35:35.up. Today as well, people were dropping. I stayed steady and got
:35:36. > :35:39.through to the final. Fair play to your mental strength, because a lot
:35:40. > :35:46.has been going on. Thank you. The Olympic champion, New Labour, I was
:35:47. > :35:49.following him in the prelim. The world champion got knocked out as
:35:50. > :35:56.well -- the Olympic champion, Zakharov. I have personally had the
:35:57. > :36:00.time of my life. It is so scary standing on the diving board, but I
:36:01. > :36:05.have had the time of my life. You only just managed to represent
:36:06. > :36:10.Ireland, because you wanted to come to the Olympics, so you went for
:36:11. > :36:13.Ireland three your grandparents? Through my grandmother, and I am
:36:14. > :36:18.proud to represent Ireland. They have invested a lot in me. Back in
:36:19. > :36:23.Dublin, there is a whole host of people who have supported me to get
:36:24. > :36:27.here. You know what it is like. I am the lucky one who gets to stand on
:36:28. > :36:32.the diving board. I am proud to be part of the Harrogate community as
:36:33. > :36:38.well. I have been lucky to represent them and I hope I have done everyone
:36:39. > :36:46.proud. Ollie Dingley, after that performance, everyone would say you
:36:47. > :36:51.have. Congratulations. What a young man, very impressive. Yeah. Diving
:36:52. > :36:55.is all about consistency. I have been going on about it all day and
:36:56. > :37:00.saying Jack has not got it together, whereas Ollie has been solid, died
:37:01. > :37:06.after died. Jack got it together when he needed to. He displayed the
:37:07. > :37:10.consistency this evening. Ollie and Jack have come into this with
:37:11. > :37:14.different expectations. Jack came into the Olympics a marked man
:37:15. > :37:17.because of what he has done in the two years leading up to this. But
:37:18. > :37:21.with the gold medal the other day, you said off-camera, he is either
:37:22. > :37:24.going to be buzzing from this, or it is going to distract him. How
:37:25. > :37:33.nervous were you after the prelims and semis? I would rather see him
:37:34. > :37:39.wobble in the prelims. Who cares? The fact that he got in, only just
:37:40. > :37:44.by the skin of his teeth, I might add, but he won a silver medal,
:37:45. > :37:49.slugging it out with Chao Yuan, who out died him in the end. But if
:37:50. > :37:55.you're going to get it together, do it in the Olympic final. This will
:37:56. > :38:00.give Jack confidence going forward. Obviously, two medals are good for
:38:01. > :38:05.your confidence, but he managed to claw it back. I will be interested
:38:06. > :38:10.to hear what his journey was like. We are just guessing from where we
:38:11. > :38:14.are in the commentary box. But he did get over his heebie-jeebies and
:38:15. > :38:19.settled in nicely. I am so proud. That is three medals for British
:38:20. > :38:24.diving. Gymnastics and diving, we are right up there. It has been
:38:25. > :38:30.unbelievable. Do you think success breeds success? Will it have
:38:31. > :38:34.knock-on effects? Of course, it builds momentum. You are thrilled
:38:35. > :38:38.for your team-mates when they do well. The swimmers have had seven
:38:39. > :38:44.quarters places, bless them. In diving, we have managed to get to
:38:45. > :38:50.the medals. -- the swimmers got seven fourth places. In diving, we
:38:51. > :38:54.are not done yet. But let's celebrate Jack's performance
:38:55. > :38:59.tonight. He has been ace. Let's turn our attention to the medal ceremony,
:39:00. > :39:06.because Jack Laugher is going to be up there again for Great Britain.
:39:07. > :39:11.What a moment, and what a recovery by Jack Laugher. We didn't give him
:39:12. > :39:15.a prayer of getting through at one stage in the semifinal, and he
:39:16. > :39:21.qualified by 2.1 points. Those are the margins in diving. 2.1 the other
:39:22. > :39:25.away, and we would not be talking about this. Jack Laugher follows Cao
:39:26. > :39:40.Yuan and Patrick Hausding. Jack Laugher, with a thumbs up and a
:39:41. > :39:46.completely different facial expression to the one I saw from him
:39:47. > :39:49.eight hours ago. We talked up the semifinals and he said it was the
:39:50. > :39:56.worst diving he had done in four years. Well, in six hours, he was
:39:57. > :40:02.able to turn that totally on its head. The worst diving in four years
:40:03. > :40:09.to some of his best diving for four years. 2012 was not a great time for
:40:10. > :40:17.him in London. 2016 in Rio is the reverse. Didn't quite put pressure
:40:18. > :40:25.on the Chinese, a big margin in the end of 24 points. But Jack Laugher
:40:26. > :40:36.beat Patrick Hausding into third place by nearly 25 points. There
:40:37. > :40:46.were 24 between one and two, and 25 between two and three, so the margin
:40:47. > :40:50.was big. That is a selection of people who have done a lot for the
:40:51. > :40:54.sport of diving. We are delighted to see Patrick Hausding up there,
:40:55. > :40:58.because he has been the nearly man, fourth place in London four years
:40:59. > :41:07.ago. But he has gone a step better for Germany this time. He will step
:41:08. > :41:13.onto the podium to collect a hard earned bronze medal. What a superb
:41:14. > :41:20.fifth round dive that was from the German, nearly hitting the hundred
:41:21. > :41:36.mark, the highest score of any diver we got. He was just shy of 500,
:41:37. > :41:45.beating Evgeny Kuznetsov into fourth place. Big margins between all of
:41:46. > :41:52.the first four. A few days ago, he and Chris Mears were climbing aboard
:41:53. > :41:56.the highest run for the gold in the three metre synchro. He has come
:41:57. > :42:04.down a peg, but nonetheless, that is a terrific performance by Jack
:42:05. > :42:10.Laugher, a brilliant display. Then he put a foot wrong and was
:42:11. > :42:15.hypercritical. Grand four didn't go to plan. Lost a few points on that,
:42:16. > :42:24.but there were three scores of 90 and above. That is a big-time
:42:25. > :42:29.performer, ladies and gentlemen, someone who can step it up when he
:42:30. > :42:32.is not in the best of form, and he wasn't in the prelims and certainly
:42:33. > :42:40.wasn't in the semifinals. But when push came to shove, Jack Laugher did
:42:41. > :42:47.his best. On the day, he was just not able to beat the hottest of hot
:42:48. > :42:51.divers, a man who literally didn't put a foot wrong all the way
:42:52. > :42:56.through. He had a wobble in the semi and a wobble in the prelim, but all
:42:57. > :43:03.the way through, his lowest mark of the night was 85, and that was his
:43:04. > :43:10.opening dive after that, he pretty much cascaded 90s across the board.
:43:11. > :43:14.Cao Yuan, no degree of argument required here, was the best on show
:43:15. > :43:22.in the three metre springboard final. But Jack Laugher picks up
:43:23. > :43:27.Great Britain's third medal. A gold, a silver and now I bronze. Jack
:43:28. > :43:28.Laugher with silver. Here comes the Chinese national anthem for Cao
:43:29. > :44:29.Yuan. Chris Mears, how was that, I know
:44:30. > :44:35.you and Jack like to do everything together. He was on his own tonight.
:44:36. > :44:41.It was nail biting, especially with his shaky prelim and semi-. But he
:44:42. > :44:45.entered the final in the first place, so he took the last place
:44:46. > :44:48.available. He's gone and got silver, like, it was really close throughout
:44:49. > :44:52.the competition with him and Cao Yuan, yeah, he went and sunkle
:44:53. > :44:56.silver. I guess for you two, the last few days have been very
:44:57. > :45:02.different. You became Britain's first diving Gold Medallists. You
:45:03. > :45:06.were able to celebrate. But he was thinking about this. Have you done
:45:07. > :45:10.separate things? No, there was an opportunity to have a celebration,
:45:11. > :45:13.but I decided to save that until Jack was finished competing. We are
:45:14. > :45:18.a team and I'm sharing a room with him. I didn't want to keep him up
:45:19. > :45:22.late. I came to his training sessions and sat by his side and
:45:23. > :45:26.tried to make him feel as comfortable as possible and he's got
:45:27. > :45:29.a result. He said he missed you after the prelims and semi-s. Said
:45:30. > :45:34.it was harder going up there by himself. Could you help him by being
:45:35. > :45:40.on the side lines? Well, I'd like to think I'm a comfort blanket in some
:45:41. > :45:45.ways, you know. He's my best bud. We're best mates. Supporting him was
:45:46. > :45:50.much as I could do. Talking of support, I've got to wave to mum and
:45:51. > :45:53.sister and PE teacher, no prizes for guessing who they're supporting,
:45:54. > :45:58.red, white and blue from head to toe. Very proud family and rightly
:45:59. > :46:06.so. Seems like you guys are all a close gang. Yeah, we knew from day
:46:07. > :46:10.one going into Rio that Jack was a contender for medals, individually.
:46:11. > :46:13.He's just proved today that a lot of hard work and determination has gone
:46:14. > :46:18.into this. He's come out with a result. He's so good and done so
:46:19. > :46:22.much off the circuit. Some people go, he wasn't on the radar before
:46:23. > :46:27.this, that's only people who watch Olympic diving. He's done a heck of
:46:28. > :46:31.a lot. How is his confidence? How was his head coming into this? He's
:46:32. > :46:36.got the result, what can you say. He was nervous. I was nervous going
:46:37. > :46:40.into the synchro. Us winning that medal, getting gold, really took the
:46:41. > :46:45.pressure off his individual. Because he'd already got an amazing result
:46:46. > :46:48.out of that. Even though he had a shaky prelim and semi, that was due
:46:49. > :46:52.to weather conditions and stuff like that. He was nervous in the semi.
:46:53. > :46:57.But he got in. He let loose in the final. That's what happens when you
:46:58. > :47:00.let your confidence drive you. He certainly looked like a high
:47:01. > :47:05.pressury bunny compared to the semis. I did say, if he gets 12
:47:06. > :47:11.dives under his belt, then that's when I stopped getting nervous. We
:47:12. > :47:14.saw from the Olympic champion and world champion weren't in the final.
:47:15. > :47:18.The most important thing is safe carriage through. Once in the final,
:47:19. > :47:22.can you win it. You can't win it from the prelim or semifinal.
:47:23. > :47:26.Pacheco you know, he was rocking in the prelims, he's rocking in the
:47:27. > :47:32.semi and two poor dives to open the final. He was nowhere. That's what
:47:33. > :47:36.happens. You've got to do it in the final but you've got to get to the
:47:37. > :47:41.final. Right, he's had 12 dives now, settle in, do it from number one,
:47:42. > :47:46.start number one, and he delivered. You kept saying, he's turned up for
:47:47. > :47:50.this. Even his body language looked different tonight. Yeah, it did. I'm
:47:51. > :47:54.in the a body language expert, though I can sense when things are
:47:55. > :47:59.going to go the right way. Opening dive, right on the end, up, up and
:48:00. > :48:02.away, drilled his entry and he stayed with it. He didn't try too
:48:03. > :48:06.hard. Got the level of excitement right. Didn't get overwhelmed. In
:48:07. > :48:10.this place it's difficult not to get overwhelmed. Can you feel the
:48:11. > :48:15.adrenaline, just breathing, keeping steady. He's coming now. Let's grab
:48:16. > :48:21.him. What is he listening to on the massive head phones? I think he's a
:48:22. > :48:25.big Drake listener. That gives him, makes him feel like liberated and
:48:26. > :48:30.makes him feel like a baller that he's going to rock it up there.
:48:31. > :48:35.Well, he did. Fair play to him. He can justify that now. Toer sure. Is
:48:36. > :48:41.Jack Laugher ever going to make his way to us. He's not been able to
:48:42. > :48:48.enjoy the celebrations, this is his time. Come on Jack. He's got himself
:48:49. > :48:54.a Union flag. Mum, sister and PE teacher looking on proudly, as are
:48:55. > :49:00.you three. What happens next then? Well, I guess... A party. Basking in
:49:01. > :49:03.the glory of, obviously I haven't celebrated my vinette with Jack. I'd
:49:04. > :49:07.like to do that very much and with the coaches and everyone that's
:49:08. > :49:13.helped me get that and Jack. Obviously, Jack celebrating this as
:49:14. > :49:18.well. Then back to the drawing board with seeing what we're doing for the
:49:19. > :49:26.next couple of years. What about Ade your coach. He looked excited. This
:49:27. > :49:32.seems to be his only celebration. Ouch. Ade has been amazing
:49:33. > :49:39.throughout the prep going into this. He's been really on it. In my
:49:40. > :49:44.competition he coaches me and Edwin coaches Jack, the amazing
:49:45. > :49:49.performance coach from Leeds. Yeah, you could see it in his eyes. He was
:49:50. > :49:53.in the zone. He knew what to say to Jack to get him if the right place
:49:54. > :49:58.for that final. Fair play to him. There it's a high pressure yay camp
:49:59. > :50:03.in Leeds. Yeah, it's -- happy camp in Leeds. Yeah, we were saying that
:50:04. > :50:07.between our lads in the apartment we have every colour of medal, from Tom
:50:08. > :50:11.and Dan with their bronze and then Jack's silver today and me and Jack
:50:12. > :50:15.getting gold. We have every colour, pretty cool. So much so celebrate in
:50:16. > :50:20.British diving. Best performance ever. Think about the guys who so
:50:21. > :50:26.nearly made it, Freddie. I know. Look, Grace as well. First finalists
:50:27. > :50:31.since 1972. Tonia and Sarah tomorrow and Tom to go. There's more diving
:50:32. > :50:39.enjoy. We're not done yet. There's still performances to come from Team
:50:40. > :50:43.GB. Let's claim Iona as well. He's a pleasure to work with. His head is
:50:44. > :50:50.totally in the right place. Can you see when he's up there, he's
:50:51. > :50:55.confident. All of his dives 8. 5, 9 even, he proved that in February in
:50:56. > :50:59.Rio where he got a medal at words, an amazing feat that no-one can take
:51:00. > :51:03.away. He dropped a few dives in the semi, but if he hits them, next time
:51:04. > :51:10.round he's in the final. Brilliant to see you guys cheering Team GB in
:51:11. > :51:15.these colours and he jumps up in his yellow T-shirt, why is the Jamaican
:51:16. > :51:19.diver cheering for Jack, but it is because he's from Leeds. Right Jack,
:51:20. > :51:24.where are you. Do you miss him? Yeah, I miss him today. I haven't
:51:25. > :51:27.seen him very much. I saw him after the semi and actually, he was a lot
:51:28. > :51:32.better than I thought he was going to be. I thought he was going to be
:51:33. > :51:37.throwing a tantrum. Does he do that? He does it sometimes. Only when he's
:51:38. > :51:41.really frustrated at something. He came in and you know, we kind of
:51:42. > :51:45.patted him on the back. You know what, I'm going to go for a snooze
:51:46. > :51:48.and come back refreshed. He came back in a completely different mind
:51:49. > :51:54.set. He came down to the pool, turned up to this event. That's
:51:55. > :51:59.pretty good. Here he is. Yeah boy! So proud of you, man.
:52:00. > :52:04.Jack, congratulations. What a week. A Gold Medal and a Silver Medal. How
:52:05. > :52:08.has your Olympic experience been? Mixed. Gold with Chris was
:52:09. > :52:15.fantastic. We knew we could do it and we did. It was brilliant. As
:52:16. > :52:20.everyone knows my prelim was nervy, whatever. Then semifinal today was
:52:21. > :52:24.even worse. My personal worse for four years actually. It was hard for
:52:25. > :52:28.me to turn it around. Come away with a Silver Medal and did a really good
:52:29. > :52:32.performance, so pleased. Fair to say, this time last night you
:52:33. > :52:37.weren't a happy bunny. You have put in a stellar performance. What did
:52:38. > :52:40.you do to change your mind set? It was about the nerves of qualifying
:52:41. > :52:45.really. Once I was in the final, it was just about me. I've got nothing
:52:46. > :52:52.to lose then. Dive by dive, go in, sticking to the routine. I end up
:52:53. > :52:56.with a fantastic score. In the qualifying rounds, there's so many
:52:57. > :53:00.nerves. The weather was awful. I've come away just, you know,
:53:01. > :53:03.overwhelmed in entirely. Thank you. Huge congratulations. You said
:53:04. > :53:07.yesterday, I don't like going up there by myself. I miss Chris. It's
:53:08. > :53:12.a completely different ball game. How useful was it having him on the
:53:13. > :53:17.side lines? Very useful. He's my biggest supporter. As a team it's
:53:18. > :53:22.easy because I have someone to talk to, laugh with. It makes it simple
:53:23. > :53:25.to get distracted from the competition so you don't focus
:53:26. > :53:28.entirely on what it is. Individually it's very hard. To have him on the
:53:29. > :53:36.side lines, cheering with the team and my family is fantastic. Chris is
:53:37. > :53:41.your biggest supporter, but the head of the Jack Laugher fan club, your
:53:42. > :53:48.mum and PE teacher are having a whale of a time. Freddie dad's
:53:49. > :53:53.there. Loads of people. She loves me. I guess that's good. What about
:53:54. > :53:57.poor dad. He's at home. Yeah, he looked after the dog. We have a
:53:58. > :54:02.two-year-old dog. Dad makes me nervous when I compete. I make him
:54:03. > :54:06.nervous as well. I don't think he would have been able to deal with
:54:07. > :54:11.the semifinal from earlier. For me, it was the right decision for him to
:54:12. > :54:16.stay at home. He's been holding the fort, doing interviews. He's been
:54:17. > :54:22.stupid, feeding treats to the dog on BBC, very funny. I love him very
:54:23. > :54:27.much. But good that he wasn't here. You may have pulled out your hair by
:54:28. > :54:35.now, but it was worth it. I found that funny. I no ethat he's back
:54:36. > :54:40.home cheering. We're all so proud of you. Everybody associated with
:54:41. > :54:44.British diving is proud of you. You did it the hard way. You left us all
:54:45. > :54:49.thinking, will he, won't he. I said from the beginning, if he gets six
:54:50. > :54:53.dives in prelims, makes it through. Six dives in the semifinal and in
:54:54. > :54:57.the final, you can win it. You're on the podium. A long overdue party for
:54:58. > :55:01.the pair of you, but you've got team-mates still diving. Maybe do it
:55:02. > :55:06.out of the village. Yeah, of course. We're celebrating. It's been a
:55:07. > :55:12.really long season so far. A fantastic performance to finish off
:55:13. > :55:16.my season. I'm really pleased. Go on, hug it out. Jack Laugher
:55:17. > :55:22.congratulations. A gold and a silver. Well done. Thank you.
:55:23. > :55:26.STUDIO: Brilliant stuff. Well done for Helen there for holding for 15
:55:27. > :55:30.minutes while we were waiting for Jack Laugher to turn up. He was
:55:31. > :55:34.enjoying hillself, doing the rounds. He was celebrating, showing his
:55:35. > :55:39.medal off to people, waving to his family and grabbing a Union flag as
:55:40. > :55:43.well. What an achievement. He is now as so many people are saying, silver
:55:44. > :55:47.in the diving, congratulations Jack Laugher. Britain's most successful
:55:48. > :55:51.diver. Far and away Great Britain's most successful diver says Alex.
:55:52. > :55:55.Jack Laugher is quality, a gold followed by individual silver. So
:55:56. > :55:59.many people enjoying it. Get in there ises Charlotte. Jack Laugher,
:56:00. > :56:06.don't care how you pronounce your name, you're brilliant. Sarah Louise
:56:07. > :56:11.says, I had to go to bed, I am waking up to tweet. I will watch in
:56:12. > :56:15.the morning. But I know what the result is. That is Team GB's 50th
:56:16. > :56:19.medal of the Games, which is staggering. We were saying earlier
:56:20. > :56:24.at this point in Beijing, they had won 34 medals. They're 16 ahead of
:56:25. > :56:27.where they were at this point in Beijing and ahead of where they were
:56:28. > :56:31.in London four years ago. The thing I love about BBC Four, you're
:56:32. > :56:35.excited about the cycling tonight, yes, you're excited about what's
:56:36. > :56:41.happening in the diving tonight, but you're very excited about Anthony
:56:42. > :56:45.wore Thompson being back on the beach -- Worral Thompson being back
:56:46. > :56:48.on the beach. There he is. He trains virtually every single night.
:56:49. > :56:52.There's only one night that he hasn't been doing the business.
:56:53. > :56:57.First week, he was green muscle vest. This week, he's gone for the
:56:58. > :57:06.grey marl as someone described yesterday. Full sleeved number as
:57:07. > :57:09.well. He's really, there, he's off! Talking bins later as well. I know
:57:10. > :57:16.you eneye that. Lots of people saying where's the bins tonight. We
:57:17. > :57:19.were talking about the fact that we do our copacabinmen. About midnight
:57:20. > :57:23.your time, they normally collect the bins. They were early this evening.
:57:24. > :57:28.We'll show you that footage as we continue to watch a man would looks
:57:29. > :57:34.like Anthony Woral Thompson on the beach. This is the sort of quality
:57:35. > :57:38.that we can bring you on BBC Four; a slightly out of shape man running
:57:39. > :57:43.backwards on Copacabana beach. There you go.
:57:44. > :57:48.From the Silver Medal to that. So, thank you for all those texts and
:57:49. > :57:53.tweets. Brilliant ones on the binman and also, the other thing I forgot
:57:54. > :57:56.to mention is that loads of people apparently the last time we were in
:57:57. > :58:00.vision, we were showing you the circuit training in background, did
:58:01. > :58:06.someone have a wee in the background in the sea on BBC Four. Honestly,
:58:07. > :58:10.I've had about 50 tweets from people saying, "Is it true someone is
:58:11. > :58:14.having a wee in the sea? If that's the case - we need to get to the
:58:15. > :58:19.bottom of this. We can't have that! We shall show you proper sport
:58:20. > :58:25.shortly, not that beach volleyball is not proper sport. I'm talking
:58:26. > :58:29.about Anthony. We have Joe Joyce in action as well. We were showing you
:58:30. > :58:36.beach volleyball earlier. We left it in the deciding set. The top seeds
:58:37. > :58:40.Brazil of Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt were taking on the Dutch, a
:58:41. > :58:43.formidable partnership themselves. The winner goes into the Gold Medal
:58:44. > :58:46.match. We join it in the deciding set once again. Brazilians are
:58:47. > :59:29.leading 7-6. COMMENTATOR: Think that's just
:59:30. > :59:44.messed. -- missed.
:59:45. > :59:55.I believe that was the ball he was looking for... The previous time.
:59:56. > :59:57.Yeah about two playing ago, when Alison threw it back. He was wanting
:59:58. > :00:26.to go high hand. He finally got it. Wow. Just apologising for coming to
:00:27. > :00:35.the net. I do not know how he ended up on his stomach after an attack.
:00:36. > :00:48.Ah, just trying to avoid... The net. He hammered that ball.
:00:49. > :01:09.Oh, lack of communication between Brouwer and
:01:10. > :01:30.Meeuwsen. But the Netherlands have been here before. They have.
:01:31. > :01:37.So important that one play doesn't directly affect another and you
:01:38. > :01:44.don't let that frustration carry-over. Let it remain in the
:01:45. > :01:49.past, and play in the present. He has missed it. That is the
:01:50. > :01:57.difficulty of going down the line when you are so tight up against the
:01:58. > :02:20.antenna. So tight, and now it is Brazil's turn to use their time-out.
:02:21. > :02:44.It poured on to manage percentages right now. You don't want to get
:02:45. > :02:50.overly excited to put a ball to the sand. When you do see a chance to
:02:51. > :02:58.score, do not try to do too much. Is that last point played out, Alison
:02:59. > :03:06.Karadzic long. -- Alison Karadzic long.
:03:07. > :03:19.There is a bit of anxiety in the crowd as well. The Dutch have never
:03:20. > :03:23.won medal in the men's inner beach volleyball competition. If they win
:03:24. > :03:32.this one, they were guaranteed themselves at least silver. They are
:03:33. > :03:46.looking for their first gold medal since the games in Athens in 2004.
:03:47. > :04:03.And we are all square at 11-11. That was an intense hamstring stretch by
:04:04. > :04:16.Alison in that past. He tried to get it down in time.
:04:17. > :04:36.Oh, well done, Bruno. Unbelievable! What a rally! New Labour puts it
:04:37. > :04:44.away. And it is the Dutch who are celebrating in the stands --
:04:45. > :04:47.Meeuwsen puts it away. What is so fascinating is that they have
:04:48. > :04:51.finally organised their coverage system. They finally had that
:04:52. > :05:02.communication where it was clean. Brouwer was there.
:05:03. > :05:33.Anything can happen, since Meeuwsen is in rhythm upfront.
:05:34. > :05:40.They are under all sorts of pressure. What a time to come up
:05:41. > :05:45.with a service fault. It was almost like an indecision server. You are
:05:46. > :05:50.exactly right, and a mind that is undecided is the most dangerous want
:05:51. > :05:59.to play in. Make a choice, trust it and go with it. Hasn't missed by
:06:00. > :06:09.much. Brouwer was never going to pull out of that one. Like you say,
:06:10. > :06:23.you can afford him the service fault. It's in, and it's match point
:06:24. > :06:30.number 54 Alison and Bruno. You don't want to get into a slugfest
:06:31. > :06:43.here. Because both these blockers are dialled in. What a play. Again,
:06:44. > :06:46.they go after Brouwer and then send it on Meeuwsen. Meeuwsen has scored
:06:47. > :06:59.every time they have done that switch. Whenever they have changed
:07:00. > :07:08.it, they have always lost the point. Meeuwsen sent it long. Another thing
:07:09. > :07:12.that is important is to not feel rushed. You can feel the energy of
:07:13. > :07:19.the 12,000 in-house, you can feel the energy stirring inside you.
:07:20. > :07:27.Match point number six. Advantage, Brazil. This to win it un-they have
:07:28. > :07:35.done it! They got the touch off the block, and it is Brazil that go
:07:36. > :07:42.through by 16-14, the sixth time of asking. They were under all sorts of
:07:43. > :07:49.pressure. Alison lets the emotion come out. What a match. You feel for
:07:50. > :07:58.Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. So close, yet so far. An
:07:59. > :08:01.epic semifinal in the men's beach volleyball event here in Rio 2016.
:08:02. > :08:15.Brazil are through. DAN WALKER: there you go, it has
:08:16. > :08:19.been one of those days for Brazil when not much has gone right, but a
:08:20. > :08:26.brilliant finish in the beach volleyball. The women lost the
:08:27. > :08:30.football to Sweden earlier in a penalty shoot out. We also showed
:08:31. > :08:33.you that top seeds in the beach volleyball, also going out at the
:08:34. > :08:37.semifinal stage, but the men are into the final. Chance of a gold
:08:38. > :08:41.medal for the home favourites. We will talk more about a potential
:08:42. > :08:45.other gold medal for them in the boxing ring later. But we have been
:08:46. > :08:48.sat here for long enough, so let's go for a wander and find out what is
:08:49. > :08:56.happening in the Atlantic tonight. Come with us on to Copacabana Beach.
:08:57. > :08:59.All this rubbish about Whitley Bay and Copacabognor, this is one of the
:09:00. > :09:03.most famous speeches in the world, Copacabana Beach. If this is the
:09:04. > :09:06.first time you have been watching BBC Four, the beach-goers half a
:09:07. > :09:09.kilometre that way and three and a half kilometres the other way so it
:09:10. > :09:16.is four kilometres of beach in total. That is because for every
:09:17. > :09:20.kilometre, there is a beach marker. If you look down there, you can see
:09:21. > :09:27.that big number five. That is the five kilometre marker. Then it
:09:28. > :09:30.stretches along to Ipanema beach, but this is Copacabana Beach, and
:09:31. > :09:33.write down the far end is the Beach Volleyball Arena. Normally during
:09:34. > :09:44.the day, you can see Sugarloaf Mountain as well. Be careful, don't
:09:45. > :09:47.fall, anyone! Are you all right down there, Kath? She is one of the
:09:48. > :09:53.finest camera women in the business. There is more beach volleyball going
:09:54. > :10:01.on later. That is at 3am on the Red Button. You don't get this in Bognor
:10:02. > :10:07.and is, do you? Well, you do! But you don't get the Atlantic in
:10:08. > :10:10.Bognor. Now we will take you for an update in the sailing. We have
:10:11. > :10:15.spoken about Jack Laugher and the fact that we are now on 50 medals as
:10:16. > :10:20.Team GB. And just the other side of Sugarloaf Mountain is the Lake
:10:21. > :10:24.Marina da Gloria, where all the sailing has taken place. Two of
:10:25. > :10:27.those 50 medals arrived there today, both gold. To bring us up-to-date
:10:28. > :10:36.with what happened is Shirley Robertson.
:10:37. > :10:40.After the drama of yesterday's storms, there are now four medal
:10:41. > :10:45.races scheduled here at discerning value, and it promises to be a
:10:46. > :10:50.golden day for Team GB. Giles Scott did enough to secure his gold medal
:10:51. > :11:00.two days ago out on the oceans of Copacabana. It was an emotional
:11:01. > :11:04.moment he shared with his coach. The start for the men's heavyweight gets
:11:05. > :11:10.under way. Today was the celebration of that moment in front of the
:11:11. > :11:13.crowds on the shores of the Guanabara Bay. Scott showed what has
:11:14. > :11:23.made him great, competing and finishing the medal race. Giles
:11:24. > :11:28.Scott of Great Britain Cumu four time world champion. It has been a
:11:29. > :11:33.long road, an agonising wait, but now the 29-year-old world number one
:11:34. > :11:43.is confirmed as the gold medal winner in Rio 2016. It is
:11:44. > :11:46.incredible. So happy with the way I sailed this week. That and the
:11:47. > :11:51.campaign that my coat and I put together over the past three years,
:11:52. > :11:56.everything has been geared towards this moment -- my coach and I, to be
:11:57. > :12:06.successful and put to rest all the crucial decisions we made early is
:12:07. > :12:10.fantastic. Job done for Scott. The chance to do the same for Hannah
:12:11. > :12:14.Mills and Saskia Clark in the 470 double handed women's dinghy. Mills
:12:15. > :12:18.and Clark had three races to sail, and if they could extend their lead
:12:19. > :12:25.to 20 points, they could secure gold ahead of their medal race tomorrow.
:12:26. > :12:28.20 points needed, 20 points the difference when they crossed the
:12:29. > :12:32.finish line of their last race of the day in third place. It took a
:12:33. > :12:37.quick check with their coach on the maths, and then celebration. Richest
:12:38. > :12:42.gold number two in the sailing. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, 2016
:12:43. > :12:53.gold medallists. I haven't stopped smiling. I know you are the best of
:12:54. > :12:57.friends. It has been five years in the making. To share this moment
:12:58. > :13:05.before you head are together, what is it like? It has been amazing. We
:13:06. > :13:10.have had a hard five years. I have had two bits of surgery, and Hannah
:13:11. > :13:19.waited for me. She has been an amazing best friend and team-mate. A
:13:20. > :13:25.great couple. Congratulations! In other news, Alison Young won the
:13:26. > :13:28.laser medal race to end up in eighth place, and disappointed. Nick
:13:29. > :13:31.Thompson couldn't improve on his sixth place in the laser medal race
:13:32. > :13:36.and the young British multi-wholesalers rounded up an
:13:37. > :13:42.Olympics that began in great style back in ninth place. Tomorrow, it's
:13:43. > :13:45.ladies day. A gold medal final for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, when
:13:46. > :13:51.they race in front of the beach before stepping onto the top step of
:13:52. > :13:53.the Olympic podium. Brilliant stuff from Britain's
:13:54. > :14:02.sailors today' gold medals. Now, for those of you who have
:14:03. > :14:05.enjoyed the magic of Maria over the last few days, the wonderful lady
:14:06. > :14:11.who strolled past us on Copacabana Beach for her hen do, guess who has
:14:12. > :14:17.turned up? It is Maria's mum, everybody! Lovely to see you. Thank
:14:18. > :14:23.you so much for popping down. And you have come to say what? I came to
:14:24. > :14:31.say hello for everybody and to invite you personally to the
:14:32. > :14:35.wedding. I am only in Brazil for two weeks. It has been wonderful to meet
:14:36. > :14:39.your daughter, but I am not sure my wife would allow me to come back to
:14:40. > :14:44.Brazil for one day. Tell us what the last few days have been like for
:14:45. > :14:49.Maria? We heard today that the video has been watched ?15.5 million
:14:50. > :14:54.around the world. It is a big success, no? I can't imagine that
:14:55. > :15:03.would happen and I can't imagine I am here now talking to everybody.
:15:04. > :15:11.But Maria is so happy. The most important thing is that Maria really
:15:12. > :15:25.believes in love. And her fiance, I say that right? He is a very special
:15:26. > :15:36.man and I am very happy at this moment. Thank you, everybody for the
:15:37. > :15:47.messages. It has been amazing. When comblar left here, she didn't
:15:48. > :15:51.know much about BBC Four, but she left and it took off. What was she
:15:52. > :15:55.like the next day, what was it like as a family the next day?
:15:56. > :16:00.Westminster, she didn't sleep. She's so excited. This is your daughter
:16:01. > :16:11.the other day. Yeah, she is, BBC, BBC! We know! As I say that Maria is
:16:12. > :16:19.beautiful, brilliant and charismatic. She's BBC girl. Was she
:16:20. > :16:25.all right the next day? She wasn't, we say in Britain, worse for wear,
:16:26. > :16:32.she'd been enjoying herself. Yeah, Joan Ayrad lot. Everybody -- Yeah
:16:33. > :16:38.enjoy a lot. Everybody wanted to take picture with marament and the
:16:39. > :16:42.Twitter is very, a lot of followers. She was on Facebook, because she was
:16:43. > :16:45.becoming so popular and people from America were trying to get in
:16:46. > :16:51.contact with her. I let her know that people wanted to know where she
:16:52. > :16:55.was. She joined Twitter. She has about 2,000 followers in about a few
:16:56. > :17:00.hours and now messages from all over the world. Yes. So I say thank you
:17:01. > :17:07.for everybody and congratulations for your job. I think it's the all
:17:08. > :17:14.people are very interested in this kind of things and Brazilian people
:17:15. > :17:18.are happy. And England people are welcome to our country. Ah, that's
:17:19. > :17:21.very nice. On behalf of everyone from Great Britain, it's been very
:17:22. > :17:26.nice to meet you and your daughter. Can I ask you about the Olympics.
:17:27. > :17:31.It's great to have you here. I didn't get a chance to speak to
:17:32. > :17:36.Maria about, it I'm not sure if she had been too aware of the Olympics,
:17:37. > :17:40.because she was talking of her undying love for her fiance. What
:17:41. > :17:46.have you made for the Olympics, two golds for Brazil. Potentially more
:17:47. > :17:56.to come. Has it been good for Brazil? The Olympics? Yes, it's very
:17:57. > :18:03.nice. The city is beautiful. I think that people are safe to come. A lot
:18:04. > :18:09.of - I think it's very nice and Brazil not very wow in the
:18:10. > :18:14.competition, but they won gold medals. Two or three. Two
:18:15. > :18:18.definitely. And possibly more today. Yeah, today in boxing. Don't give it
:18:19. > :18:23.away, we're going to show that. You're as bad as your daughter! I've
:18:24. > :18:30.got to ask you about the plans for the wedding. Maria told us she's
:18:31. > :18:38.getting married on the beach. Yes, it's a club in the posh set. My
:18:39. > :18:51.mother live here. And the last building. The wedding party is in
:18:52. > :18:56.the club. So just down here. She's marrying there. It's on September
:18:57. > :19:01.17, is that right? 17th September. Brilliant. I'd like to say I'll see
:19:02. > :19:06.you there, but I don't know. Thank you so much for the invitation. It's
:19:07. > :19:11.very, very nice. That's another beautiful invitation. Thank you so
:19:12. > :19:15.much. Thank you. That's great. Lovely to see you. Thank you so
:19:16. > :19:18.much. That's Maria's mum everybody. Can we give her a round of applause.
:19:19. > :19:22.APPLAUSE What other members of the family can
:19:23. > :19:27.you bring down? Yeah, tomorrow, tomorrow. Let's meet some more. The
:19:28. > :19:32.father come tomorrow. The dad. OK. Come on. We'll meet him tomorrow.
:19:33. > :19:39.Thank you very much. Bye-bye. Lovely to see you. Thank you. She may have
:19:40. > :19:42.given something away there. We were going to show you boxing from
:19:43. > :19:49.earlier on. One bullet-proof distil's finest, this is the men's
:19:50. > :19:53.lightweight final -- one of Brazil's finest. This is the men's
:19:54. > :19:58.lightweight final. Let's go to the boxing ring. Commentary from Richie
:19:59. > :20:10.Woodall and big Ron McIntosh. COMMENTATOR: We are under way. The
:20:11. > :20:16.60 kilogram lightweight Gold Medal bout being contested between boxers
:20:17. > :20:22.from France and Brazil. The man in red is 27 years of age,
:20:23. > :20:26.competing in his third Olympic Games here and inspired by the home
:20:27. > :20:32.support, he has booked his place in the Gold Medal contest with terrific
:20:33. > :20:37.performances. The man wearing blue has been razor sharp all tournament
:20:38. > :20:50.long. 21 years of age. Ranked six in the world. Fantastic atmosphere. Who
:20:51. > :20:55.will get their tactics right. Both boxers good long-range men.
:20:56. > :20:58.Conceicao looks to be on front foot. He's getting the crowd behind him.
:20:59. > :21:08.Everything he lands is being cheered. Make no mistake. This
:21:09. > :21:11.Frenchman is a class act as well. These two men were supposed to meet
:21:12. > :21:19.just before the Olympics at a tournament. It's Robson Conceicao
:21:20. > :21:22.who won. That's because it was a walkover as Oumiha was unable to
:21:23. > :21:32.take his place in the semifinal stage. The atmosphere here really is
:21:33. > :21:34.incredible. Conceicao used this atmosphere to produce a terrific
:21:35. > :21:50.semifinal win. Oumiha gets caught there. Makes a
:21:51. > :21:54.mistake with his landing shot and trying to get back to safety
:21:55. > :21:58.distance. But he's dropping his hands. Conceicao, for me, this jab
:21:59. > :22:03.of his has been brilliant this first round. Good timing, accurate. This
:22:04. > :22:12.is a good start from the before distilian. -- from the Brazilian.
:22:13. > :22:18.Look at this single jab. Good timing, measuring the distance.
:22:19. > :22:22.Conceicao picked up a cut in the semifinal win. Good movement from
:22:23. > :22:27.the waist to avoid those punches from Oumiha. We will have to keep a
:22:28. > :22:30.close eye on that injury to see if it holds up throughout this Gold
:22:31. > :22:34.Medal bout. He's boxing very well indeed, hitting without being hit in
:22:35. > :22:39.replay. The lay back making Oumiha miss. Quality in and out from both
:22:40. > :22:44.boxers. It's who can hit and make the opponent miss and then go back
:22:45. > :22:47.at him. Both are doing it well. Oumiha gets caught going out. For
:22:48. > :22:55.me, the Brazilian slightly better. Good movement on the retreat once
:22:56. > :23:10.again from Conceicao. An opening round full of thought and
:23:11. > :23:12.concentration between the two boxers in stark contrast to the party
:23:13. > :23:21.that's happening up in the stands here. Both decide to stand and not
:23:22. > :23:32.sit. Both are confident. This fellow for me had the better start there on
:23:33. > :23:37.that front foot. Tension in the air, but the crowd really playing their
:23:38. > :23:41.part here. Just making your opponent miss by inches and going back and
:23:42. > :23:54.scoring. That's what Conceicao did there. Will he get the scores.
:23:55. > :24:13.Into the second round we go. The man wearing red, Robson Conceicao, the
:24:14. > :24:17.fifth ranked boxer in the world, tournament number four seed, swept
:24:18. > :24:22.the opening round across the board. He's begun the second round working
:24:23. > :24:26.wonderfully behind that educated left hand. That's good tactics from
:24:27. > :24:35.Conceicao here. He's not giving ground. He's in and out, very sharp.
:24:36. > :24:40.He started quickly. Again, Oumiha trying to land that left hook. It's
:24:41. > :24:47.just not getting home. That right hand of his, the accuracy is not
:24:48. > :24:53.there compared to his opponent. Conceicao working better with the
:24:54. > :24:56.jab and better with the right hand. Oumiha had a terrific run through to
:24:57. > :25:18.the semifinal stage. He produced a fantastic display
:25:19. > :25:24.against the tournament number three seed to book his place here in this
:25:25. > :25:27.Gold Medal bout. He's coping with the occasion well, Oumiha, but
:25:28. > :25:33.struggling to find the range consistently for his shots.
:25:34. > :25:38.Conceicao appearing unnaturally calm up there in the ring hoping himself
:25:39. > :25:42.to a good one, two. These quality performers here. In this
:25:43. > :25:46.cat-and-mouse boxing - look at Conceicao, he's on the ball, 100%
:25:47. > :25:52.concentration. He's beating Oumiha to the punch. Doesn't matter about
:25:53. > :25:57.the atmosphere. The concentration levels are very high from the man in
:25:58. > :26:01.red. Oumiha is definitely in it. Yes, there's not a lot in it from
:26:02. > :26:10.this contest. Better qualities coming from the boxing ring
:26:11. > :26:22.Brazilian. Oumiha with a glance to his corner.
:26:23. > :26:28.Look at that left hand from Conceicao. And a left jab causes
:26:29. > :26:35.Oumiha to touchdown. Referee ruled it a slip. But for my money, the
:26:36. > :26:40.most fundament Alf of all boxing punches got through -- fundamental
:26:41. > :26:44.of all boxing punches got through. A dominant display by the Brazilian.
:26:45. > :26:47.Lovely punch picking, straight punches, basic work from the
:26:48. > :27:06.Brazilian. It's working very effectively for him.
:27:07. > :27:13.Concentration absolute throughout. These men know that their boxer is
:27:14. > :27:16.surely just three minutes away in terms of action in the ring from
:27:17. > :27:24.being crowned Olympic Gold Medallist at this, a home Olympics.
:27:25. > :27:29.Concentration is the name of the game in a contest like this. It's
:27:30. > :27:36.been demonstrated in abundance here by Conceicao. He's in and out with
:27:37. > :27:39.the work. Using the basic of all punches, the straight purchls,
:27:40. > :27:46.better, with the jab, straight right hand. Oumiha is having some success.
:27:47. > :27:49.It's not all one-way traffic. He's being beaten to the punch. Again,
:27:50. > :28:11.it's the judges that matter. Into the third and final round we
:28:12. > :28:17.go. The boxer wearing red Robson Conceicao of Brazil. A man who has
:28:18. > :28:22.been a poster boy not just for the boxing tournament but the entire
:28:23. > :28:29.Olympic Games. A two-point advantage from judges A, B and C in this
:28:30. > :28:35.incredible atmosphere here. His concentration has been absolute. A
:28:36. > :28:39.laser-like focus to repel the advances of Oumiha. He's having
:28:40. > :28:43.moments of success of his own, the reigning European Games Silver
:28:44. > :28:52.Medallist. Now the man in blue has a mountain to climb. He needs a 10-8
:28:53. > :28:58.round to get back to parity. Oumiha needs the round of his life here. He
:28:59. > :29:02.needs to cause a 10-8 round. It's all or nothing now from Oumiha. He
:29:03. > :29:09.will have to take risks to land that power shot. He'll have to be in that
:29:10. > :29:14.short to land that bent arm shot which could cause an upset here. By
:29:15. > :29:18.doing that, he's in a zone there and an area where he can get caught
:29:19. > :29:24.himself. He needs the punch of his life. He's got to go for broke,
:29:25. > :29:40.Oumiha. This man, who was a street vendor on
:29:41. > :29:49.the streets of Salvador as a child, calls himself a survivor. He said
:29:50. > :29:58.his personality, he euphemistically called himself quarrelsome. Robson
:29:59. > :30:05.Conceicao wanted to be just like an uncle. He used to neeck down to the
:30:06. > :30:09.gym, watch his uncle ply his trade. Used to fake injury and get
:30:10. > :30:14.treatment from the hospital, take the same bandages that the hospital
:30:15. > :30:18.would treat his fake injuries with and turned them into hand wraps.
:30:19. > :30:24.That's how much this young man from Brazil, who grew up poor in Brazil,
:30:25. > :30:30.wanted to be a boxer and now, at a home Olympics, he's on the cusp of
:30:31. > :30:39.being crowned Olympic champion, an historic title. Prior to this point
:30:40. > :30:43.no Brazilian has occupied top spet on the medal programme in the boxing
:30:44. > :30:46.ring. The hard work for Conceicao has been done in those two rounds.
:30:47. > :30:57.He's protecting the lead now. Conceicao has taken his foot off the
:30:58. > :31:08.gas. Watch this place erupted when this bell goes. The crowd are
:31:09. > :31:12.counting down the final seconds. And Robson Conceicao raises his arms and
:31:13. > :31:20.wanders wearily back to his red corner. The crowd know, and he knows
:31:21. > :31:30.that he is just about to be crowned Olympic gold medallist in this 60
:31:31. > :31:34.kilograms lightweight division. What an intelligent display to keep
:31:35. > :31:42.the talented Sofiane Oumiha out of punching range. The French know it
:31:43. > :31:46.is not going to be their night. But he played his part in a terrific
:31:47. > :31:53.contest. But Robson Conceicao would not be denied.
:31:54. > :31:59.His first two rounds where his best grounds. He concentrated very well.
:32:00. > :32:04.He started quickly, that was important. The speed was there. It
:32:05. > :32:14.is a rocky story that you explained, Ronald. Tremendous stuff from this
:32:15. > :32:32.young man. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision...
:32:33. > :32:45.Robson Conceicao! A cacophony of noise and the Carnival of colour
:32:46. > :32:49.have just erupted into celebration in acknowledgement of the fact that
:32:50. > :32:57.Robson Conceicao, the boy who grew up poor on the streets of Salvador,
:32:58. > :33:01.has just been crowned Olympic champion in the 60 kilograms
:33:02. > :33:05.lightweight division. He becomes Brazil's first-ever Olympic champion
:33:06. > :33:10.inside the boxing ring. He dealt with the pressure of expectation. He
:33:11. > :33:14.dealt with the reputation and the talents of all of the boxes in front
:33:15. > :33:19.of him, never more so than in the final, when he eliminated the
:33:20. > :33:24.talented Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha. And he is drinking in the applause
:33:25. > :33:29.from the crowd here in Riocentro Pavilion 6, who are in absolute
:33:30. > :33:35.rapture at what this man has accomplished. 27-year-old Robson
:33:36. > :33:38.Conceicao is the Olympic champion of the 60 kilograms lightweight
:33:39. > :33:41.division. Usually, it is the Brazilian footballers that I call
:33:42. > :33:48.the headlines in this neck of the woods. But now they have a new
:33:49. > :33:54.national hero, a boxer and Olympic champion of 60 kilograms. That is
:33:55. > :33:59.something special and this crowd, in years to come, will say, I was
:34:00. > :34:04.there. For the first time probably in this tournament, it is a full
:34:05. > :34:10.arena. Every Brazilian in this arena will feel very proud of that young
:34:11. > :34:20.man. He is now a national hero. People are crying all around us.
:34:21. > :34:25.DAN WALKER: amazing stuff, Brazil's third gold medal of the games.
:34:26. > :34:28.Robson Conceicao, like the pole vault last night in the athletics,
:34:29. > :34:38.did the business when it mattered. That was a short time ago in the
:34:39. > :34:43.Riocentro. I know Maria's mum gave it away, but I hope it didn't ruin
:34:44. > :34:47.it for you. Remember Raphael Silva in the judo about a week ago, and
:34:48. > :34:51.then the pole vault last night and then Robson Conceicao with another
:34:52. > :34:55.gold. I know loads of you want us to do the Copacabinmen. It is that time
:34:56. > :34:59.of night. We will do it. I know loads of you want to comment on
:35:00. > :35:04.Maria's mum. We will do that as well, but let's take you to some
:35:05. > :35:11.live weightlifting. These are the big boys, 14.5 stone. After this
:35:12. > :35:21.much, we had a world record from the Iranian. This is 216 kilos he is
:35:22. > :35:33.going for, his third attempt. A new world record. So he is leading after
:35:34. > :35:42.this match. This is his third attempt of the clean and jerk but.
:35:43. > :35:47.As we join it live, he is coming in now for his third attempt. He has to
:35:48. > :35:53.make this, so the pressure is on. We join our commentary team of Michaela
:35:54. > :36:04.breeze and Jon Harker. These are the big guys, 105 kilos.
:36:05. > :36:10.COMMENTATOR: He is still blowing hard after the previous that had.
:36:11. > :36:13.Two minutes is not long to recover. Last chance. Come on. Everybody in
:36:14. > :36:35.the arena wants to see this. My word! A world record half an hour
:36:36. > :36:46.ago, and he is going home medal less. A staggering fall from grace
:36:47. > :36:52.for the Olympic champion. He is not happy with the jury's decision. I
:36:53. > :37:02.believe the jury's decision was actually correct. They will agree
:37:03. > :37:06.once they have seen the replay that that was not the way he expect to go
:37:07. > :37:10.out of the competition, and it is not what we expected. Nonetheless,
:37:11. > :37:25.the competition is still on. It is all to play for now. We have got
:37:26. > :37:36.more confusion here. The Brazilian has been called off the stage. Let's
:37:37. > :37:50.recap with what we have just seen. At the moment, Talakhadze is in the
:37:51. > :38:06.lead. He still has two lifts to come. But he goes. The gold medal
:38:07. > :38:12.should be this man's, particularly if he can lift this. It would be a
:38:13. > :38:20.pretty unassailable lead if he succeeds with this seconds left in
:38:21. > :38:29.the clean and jerk. Some superb lifting. It is very disappointing to
:38:30. > :38:35.hear the bruise from the crowd as he comes out. It is not his problem. He
:38:36. > :38:44.is coming out here and doing his job. You need a bit more respect
:38:45. > :38:46.from the crowd. That has drawn a line in the sand for the rest of the
:38:47. > :39:14.lifters. He stands so strong. Saraiva Reis, with his third and
:39:15. > :39:16.final attempt. He's has gone up to kilos. He is asking the crowd for
:39:17. > :39:40.quiet. That is a failure. It even if he had
:39:41. > :39:53.stood up with it, the referees would have asked him to put it down. He is
:39:54. > :40:07.in fifth place. Watch the adjustment. That is not
:40:08. > :40:29.allowed. He would have been failed. Mart Seim will be looking to move up
:40:30. > :41:17.the rankings with this lift. Is he going to hold it? What do the
:41:18. > :41:33.referees think of that? He was so close. You have got to be much more
:41:34. > :41:35.convincing than this. It is not going to be a new PB for him. He
:41:36. > :41:55.failed. Mart Seim stands up really well.
:41:56. > :42:02.Chest in front. Was it elbows, was it shoulders, was he unlucky? Tough
:42:03. > :42:09.refereeing here tonight. So far, I think the right decisions have been
:42:10. > :42:18.made. This is becoming more and more controversial. We have just had the
:42:19. > :42:21.Iranian officials. We have just seen Salimikordasiabi walk out and
:42:22. > :42:29.question the officials. Extraordinary scenes here. As a
:42:30. > :42:33.lifter, you have to take the decision of the referees, as hard as
:42:34. > :42:36.that may be. He is clearly distraught, but there are other
:42:37. > :42:41.lifters still coming out and he needs to take his argument outside
:42:42. > :42:54.right now and allow the competition to continue. Aleksanyan still has
:42:55. > :43:00.two lifts to come. This lift could be for a bronze medal. He is not
:43:01. > :43:04.happy with the noise that has been generated by this crowd. I am not
:43:05. > :43:27.surprised. It is a very negative atmosphere.
:43:28. > :43:43.Cut it short, manages to get underneath. No.
:43:44. > :43:51.We still have Talakhadze in the lead, with one attempt remaining. He
:43:52. > :44:04.has a healthy lead. He is in 11 kilos clear of Aleksanyan of
:44:05. > :44:12.Armenia. Drives straight out, aggressive effort. Just pushes
:44:13. > :44:16.himself away from the bar. There, we need to be driving with the legs and
:44:17. > :44:18.dropping to catch the way to the head. You can't do that kind of
:44:19. > :44:30.weight with your arms. There's a few lifters in the warm-up
:44:31. > :44:43.room watching anxiously. Still three lifters left in the competition.
:44:44. > :44:54.I don't think anybody can catch Talakhadze. He's got too much of a
:44:55. > :44:56.lead after the snatch. Controversially here again, the
:44:57. > :45:55.Armenian camp is calling for quiet. It's beyond him. He's been a popular
:45:56. > :46:01.competitor here. Oh, dear me. Very, very angry man on stage right now.
:46:02. > :46:08.He's angry because of the lack of respect from some of the Iranian
:46:09. > :46:14.supporters. Let's give these guys a chance. They have worked so hard for
:46:15. > :46:17.this moment. But at the same time, they should be able to focus and
:46:18. > :46:32.shut out anything else that's going on. Just drops his chest. We have an
:46:33. > :46:51.announcement from the crowd. Celebrations. That actually confirms
:46:52. > :46:55.the medallists. There's been an announcement to ask the crowd for
:46:56. > :47:06.quiet and to respect the lifters - about time. Mart Seim lifting for
:47:07. > :47:09.fourth place. Despite good lifting from him in the clean and jerk, too
:47:10. > :47:37.far back after the snatch. He works hard, that's good. Does he
:47:38. > :47:40.have the legs? No, not today. That would have only been good enough for
:47:41. > :47:48.fourth. He gave it everything he had. Think about the snatch
:47:49. > :47:53.competition, how exciting and competitive that was. Clean and jerk
:47:54. > :47:58.has been very different. It's still been hugely competitive. The
:47:59. > :48:02.difference is from having consistent lifting in the snatch, to
:48:03. > :48:06.inconsistent in the clean and jerk. I said time after time, it's the
:48:07. > :48:12.lifter that's most consistent is the one that's likely to come off
:48:13. > :48:18.victorious. So far Talakhadze five out of five lifts. He hasn't let
:48:19. > :48:24.everything else get to him. He's stayed focussed and stayed worried
:48:25. > :48:29.about himself. Right now he's antagonising the crowd. He's already
:48:30. > :48:35.the Olympic champion. This lift is irrevanity. It doesn't matter if it
:48:36. > :48:49.goes off or not, he's won. If he lifts this, an extraordinary weight
:48:50. > :48:52.258, this will be a world record in the combined, currently 472, 258
:48:53. > :49:05.world record attempt here. Oh, you are joking! Well look at that.
:49:06. > :49:21.Fantastic lifting. He can thank the crowd for winding him up. That is
:49:22. > :49:30.some lifting from Lasha Talakhadze of Georgia, 258 kilos. He's taken
:49:31. > :49:43.the total. He's put a kilo on the world record. An extraordinary night
:49:44. > :49:47.of lifting here at Rio 2016. Seriously sagging bar under the
:49:48. > :49:51.weight, either side of it. Wow. Look at that for an effort. Unbelievable.
:49:52. > :50:07.Brilliant lifting. Seven kilos above anything he's done
:50:08. > :50:14.on this kind of platform. Huge drive overhead. He wanted that, didn't he?
:50:15. > :50:41.Just absolutely breath taking. Here is the 2012 Olympic champion.
:50:42. > :50:44.That's nice to see. Salimkordasiabi congratulating and applauding the
:50:45. > :50:48.efforts of Talakhadze. He might have his dispute with the judges, but he
:50:49. > :50:54.can't deny what Talakhadze has achieved here. Extraordinary
:50:55. > :51:03.performance by the Georgian. So it's gold to Georgia in the men's plus
:51:04. > :51:13.105 kg category. Lasha Talakhadze 215 in the snatch, 258 in the clean
:51:14. > :51:21.and jerk, world record of 473, it's Minasyan of Armenia for the silver
:51:22. > :51:29.and bronze for Turmanidze. STUDIO: You have to feel gutted for
:51:30. > :51:34.the Iranian athlete. He couldn't produce anything in the clean and
:51:35. > :51:38.jerk. No medal this time round for Salimkordasiabi. Talakhadze takes
:51:39. > :51:43.the gold. He was banned for two years in 2013. That was for doping.
:51:44. > :51:51.He's back now and he is the Olympic champion. He lifted a frankly
:51:52. > :51:56.ludicrous weight, which in pounds and ounces is way over 40 stone in
:51:57. > :52:05.the clean and jerk. Georgia have an Olympic Gold Medallist. Now, we've
:52:06. > :52:09.got some things to attend to. We promised you various things this
:52:10. > :52:12.evening. We will get round to those. At this time of night, we like to
:52:13. > :52:16.read the messages you've been sending through. Every night we're
:52:17. > :52:19.getting more and more. So, some of these, thank you for all the people
:52:20. > :52:24.enjoying the coverage. It's a pleasure to do this on BBC Four. We
:52:25. > :52:28.enjoy it. Our seven hours every evening, taking through to 2
:52:29. > :52:33.Archbishop. Terry says, "Loved the bit with -- to 2am. Terry says,"
:52:34. > :52:38.Loved the bit with Maria's mum. You must get on the fiance." I think
:52:39. > :52:43.papa is coming on tomorrow, Maria's dad. We don't know, he might just
:52:44. > :52:45.turn up and come on. Can you tell Antony Worrall Thompson to stop his
:52:46. > :52:50.training and get back to his restaurant. I'm expecting a birthday
:52:51. > :52:58.meal next week. That's from Tandy. I like the way rather than saying,
:52:59. > :53:05.Antony Worrall Thompson, you're saying AWT. This one says no AWT, no
:53:06. > :53:11.party. Neil says get the fiance in before you leave for the full set.
:53:12. > :53:15.We'll try that. Can I be the only person who wants Dan walker and the
:53:16. > :53:19.BBC Four team to go to this wedding. Lovely, heart warming story that
:53:20. > :53:24.needs a proper end. I can't come back to Brazil for one day. I've got
:53:25. > :53:28.football focus on that day, September 17th is a Saturday.
:53:29. > :53:31.Petition to start a segment where Mr Walker meets a different member of
:53:32. > :53:35.Maria's family every night. I see where you're going with this. And
:53:36. > :53:42.scror Dan is one of many who said, "I'm gutted, what happened to the
:53:43. > :53:47.bin collection." Hashtag copacabinmen. I can exclusively
:53:48. > :53:57.reveal we have had live bin action. Let's show you that. It wasn't our
:53:58. > :54:00.normal guys. It wasn't Pedro, Rafael, Donatelo and Alejandro.
:54:01. > :54:09.These guys didn't look across. Usually a little wave. But nothing
:54:10. > :54:16.from them tonight. They were just studiously doing their work down at
:54:17. > :54:21.fishermen's corner. On the theme, a brilliant tweet from Bill who says,
:54:22. > :54:26."Can you pass on our regards from the English binmen, Bill from
:54:27. > :54:29.Sunderland, perhaps one day refuse collection will be an Olympic sport.
:54:30. > :54:34.What a fantastic idea. They're very speedy. That's exactly what I said.
:54:35. > :54:42.These guys are quick. Bill came back with, hold on a minute, Bill said,
:54:43. > :54:46.on my crew, pretty boy, Biffa and sick note have perfected the bin bag
:54:47. > :54:53.throw from 20 yards with uncanny accuracy. Can the boys from Brazil?
:54:54. > :55:00.The thing is though, Bill, do you doe it on a track tore? I think
:55:01. > :55:08.that's the big test -- tractor. We need to get the binmen of Sunderland
:55:09. > :55:12.taking on the cpocabinmen in a huge bin-based Olympic ordeal. I think it
:55:13. > :55:19.could work. I think BBC Four would show it. Maybe we could get Maria's
:55:20. > :55:23.dad as co--comms. About 17 hours ago, we promised you some live
:55:24. > :55:28.boxing, we couldn't bring it to you live. It did happen earlier. We were
:55:29. > :55:32.on various other sports, jaw lure with the medal in the diving. We can
:55:33. > :55:36.bring you two bouts, including two of Team GB's medal hopes. Now the
:55:37. > :55:40.first one is Joshua Buatsi. He's guaranteed a medal. This is the
:55:41. > :55:49.semifinal in the light heavy division. Floyd Mayweather has been
:55:50. > :55:53.watching Joshua this week. He's taking on an impressive candidate
:55:54. > :55:56.from Kazakhstan. He won the Silver Medal in London four years ago in
:55:57. > :56:01.the Olympic Games. He's a two-time world champion. Let's get over to
:56:02. > :56:15.the Rio Centro. This took place earlier on tonight.
:56:16. > :56:20.COMMENTATOR: What a moment for Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi, the south
:56:21. > :56:25.Londoner, guaranteed an Olympic medal. Here he is at the semifinal
:56:26. > :56:27.stage of the 81 kg light-heavyweight tournament looking for a place in
:56:28. > :56:50.the Gold Medal bout. Here is the man would stands between
:56:51. > :56:56.Great Britain's Josh Buatsi and a place in that Olympic final, the
:56:57. > :57:00.huge lay complished, incredibly talented, Niyazymbetov of
:57:01. > :57:03.Kazakhstan, the reigning Olympic Silver Medallist, the former
:57:04. > :57:11.two-time world champion, Silver Medallist as well and that Olympic
:57:12. > :57:17.silver, four years ago in London, he lost on countback, 15 points.
:57:18. > :57:23.Absolutely nothing in it. That gives you an idea of this man's calibre.
:57:24. > :57:30.Josh Buatsi is in a rich vain of form. He's been inspired by the
:57:31. > :57:34.words of Floyd Mayweather, who's tagged him as a future star of the
:57:35. > :57:41.sport. He is one win away from a place in the Gold Medal bout. Buatsi
:57:42. > :57:52.ver size Niyazymbetov in the light-heavyweight semifinal.
:57:53. > :58:04.Representing Great Britain... Joshua Buatsi.
:58:05. > :58:21.Introducing the boxer in the blue corner, representing Kazakhstan...
:58:22. > :58:57.And we are under way in the 81 kilograms light heavyweight
:58:58. > :59:01.division. Both of these men guaranteed at least Olympic bronze,
:59:02. > :59:09.and it is between boxes of Great Britain and Kazakhstan, and the
:59:10. > :59:15.boxer in the red who has made a good start, Joshua Buatsi, the emerging
:59:16. > :59:20.star of this little tournament so far, and the man wearing blue is the
:59:21. > :59:33.hugely experienced incredibly, the two ranked boxer in the world,
:59:34. > :59:36.another to set, a good right jab just a few moments ago, it is
:59:37. > :59:43.Kazakhstan's Adilbek Niyazymbetov. He is a skilful operator, he is
:59:44. > :59:49.doing it sensibly, high guard from what C. Just trying to interrupt the
:59:50. > :59:54.rhythm of the Kazakhstan boxer, that is what he has got to do, so it is a
:59:55. > :00:00.positive start, a good right hand from Buatsi. Niyazymbetov will be a
:00:01. > :00:08.very calm operator, operates fantastically, and boxes wonderfully
:00:09. > :00:15.in the space of the boxing ring, so Buatsi will have to hold his stance.
:00:16. > :00:23.Niyazymbetov using his feet to evade the counter. No disrespect to the
:00:24. > :00:29.tournament number three seed, Joshua Buatsi hurt the man early, stopped
:00:30. > :00:40.him with a dramatic TKO in random number three. This man for my money
:00:41. > :00:46.is a better version of El Sheryf rattled off, he will have to target
:00:47. > :00:53.those counter those punches all match long. The important punches
:00:54. > :00:59.that jab, and he can't afford to miss with that right hand, if you
:01:00. > :01:03.miss the target against this guy, he will then catch you on the counter,
:01:04. > :01:11.so use the jab well, measure the distance, that was a nice jab, and
:01:12. > :01:15.then send that right hand and make sure it gets home, he can't afford
:01:16. > :01:19.to fall short. The sting was taken off it by Niyazymbetov, leaning
:01:20. > :01:25.backwards, cracking southpaw left from Niyazymbetov. Good right hand
:01:26. > :01:30.to the body from the man in red. The most recent addition to the World
:01:31. > :01:38.Championships was Elshod Rasulov, the man who Buatsi so dramatically
:01:39. > :01:45.knocked out. Now the referee has called time, because some
:01:46. > :01:50.adjustments are needed to the right boot of Niyazymbetov. This has been
:01:51. > :01:55.a positive round from Buatsi, he can't rely on Niyazymbetov to have
:01:56. > :02:00.the time on the outside, so occasionally he has to bring up the
:02:01. > :02:03.tempo with his feet, but he can't go in their clumsy, that is what he has
:02:04. > :02:08.got to do here, come forward and hit the target. Niyazymbetov using that
:02:09. > :02:17.footwork to move away from the dangerous right hand of tap back
:02:18. > :02:22.Buatsi. Let's see we can listen into the red corner. You need the
:02:23. > :02:38.control. That is a fair round from Buatsi.
:02:39. > :02:47.Niyazymbetov is a little worried in a way because they probably know
:02:48. > :02:50.Buatsi is a big puncher, so Niyazymbetov would like to get some
:02:51. > :02:56.of the scores, a very close round, but for me, Buatsi did some positive
:02:57. > :02:57.work on that front foot, and again, judges here who prefer that back
:02:58. > :03:15.foot boxing. So, into the second round, and
:03:16. > :03:20.Joshua Buatsi represented Great Britain has conceded the opening
:03:21. > :03:23.round across 10-9 from all three judges against this accomplished,
:03:24. > :03:33.clever Kazakhstan boxer. It is his fourth contest, Joshua Buatsi, he
:03:34. > :03:51.was confident in his opening bouts against the boxer from Uganda and
:03:52. > :03:58.then Elshod Rasulov, and then Abdelhafid Benchabla in the
:03:59. > :04:04.quarterfinal. And Buatsi is just struggling to find his range at the
:04:05. > :04:08.start of this second round. They have said to their man, don't stand
:04:09. > :04:13.your feet against this guy, he is a big puncher, and they are concerned
:04:14. > :04:20.by the power of Buatsi, no question. That is why he has decided to keep
:04:21. > :04:25.it long, Niyazymbetov, he is just trying to keep his distance and pick
:04:26. > :04:28.up the odd punch, so Buatsi will need faster feet, and when he gets
:04:29. > :04:33.him into positions like this, that is where he will score. Buatsi
:04:34. > :04:37.mustn't display any signs of negative body language. His stance
:04:38. > :04:42.has served to well in the tournament, he has been a relentless
:04:43. > :04:45.stalk of the opposition, setting things up with the jab and scoring
:04:46. > :04:49.things really well, particularly to the body, but this is a fleetfooted
:04:50. > :04:57.Karzai boxer that he is facing, he is picking that southpaw left very
:04:58. > :05:03.well indeed. Terrific atmosphere here at Rio Centro Pavilion six,
:05:04. > :05:10.Niyazymbetov forcing Buatsi back to the ropes, and Buatsi showing a few
:05:11. > :05:18.signs of frustration here, he must keep his mind on the job. That is a
:05:19. > :05:24.good right hand that can slow down a fleetfooted boxer if he continues to
:05:25. > :05:28.get those shots. Buatsi being spoken to about voicing his frustration to
:05:29. > :05:33.the referee. He has to keep his mind on the man in front of him here. He
:05:34. > :05:36.has to be quick on the feet, just a little too slow, probably waited a
:05:37. > :05:41.little too long, so he will sustain a little pressure, but he has to be
:05:42. > :05:45.sensible, a little head movement going forward. The feet have
:05:46. > :05:50.definitely got to be quicker here, Niyazymbetov seems to be controlling
:05:51. > :06:02.the pace better than the man in blue. Look is how is able to work in
:06:03. > :06:06.the space of the ring, but it has been around in which the man in blue
:06:07. > :06:16.has dictated the terms, and they are terms that suit him. Buatsi showed
:06:17. > :06:19.few signs of frustration there, but he did well in that second round,
:06:20. > :06:28.this man POSIX Beerens coming to the fore. When he has time and room, the
:06:29. > :06:34.man in blue, he can control. Just the odd fighting attack from
:06:35. > :06:37.Niyazymbetov, a clever boxer, he doesn't really want to mix with
:06:38. > :06:45.Blatty, keeping long-range, then just slips to the side, and again
:06:46. > :06:51.gets through there. At times, Joshua Buatsi was a little too slow with
:06:52. > :06:57.the feet. And the scores again across-the-board for Niyazymbetov,
:06:58. > :07:01.so a tough job for Buatsi now, but having said that, we know that this
:07:02. > :07:03.guy in red, Joshua Buatsi, has got the power to me because an upset
:07:04. > :07:15.here. As we move into the third and final
:07:16. > :07:21.round, Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi, is trailing by two points
:07:22. > :07:27.from all three judges, he scored two stoppage victories in his contests
:07:28. > :07:31.so far, and he will need to produce precise power punching to get back
:07:32. > :07:34.into this contest, but that will be a difficult proposition against
:07:35. > :07:42.Niyazymbetov who glides around the boxing ring is fluidly as Mercury.
:07:43. > :07:44.Cracking right hand, and Niyazymbetov intelligent treatise is
:07:45. > :07:52.man up to get him back into the corner, and that is a turkey stern
:07:53. > :07:59.talking point. -- a stern talking point. He just has to slip to his
:08:00. > :08:04.left a little more, he is throwing the right hand, Joshua Buatsi. As he
:08:05. > :08:07.goes forward, he has tried to slip to the left and throw the right hand
:08:08. > :08:11.down the middle, then maybe he can come back with the left up to the
:08:12. > :08:16.body or the head, but he has to have a little more head movement, Joshua
:08:17. > :08:21.Buatsi, as he is going forward, he is going forward to straight, a
:08:22. > :08:27.little static with his head, so he has to move it to the left and throw
:08:28. > :08:32.that right-hand. And again, the movement from the waist down, with
:08:33. > :08:36.the feet of Niyazymbetov, he is being a very difficult proposition
:08:37. > :08:40.to pin down, and Joshua Buatsi at the midpoint of this third round, he
:08:41. > :08:45.has a minute and a half in which to find a finishing punch or salvo,
:08:46. > :08:48.time is on the side of the man in blue, and now he has his man in the
:08:49. > :08:58.corner, but look at the manner in which Niyazymbetov is keen to
:08:59. > :09:04.initiate a clinch. Never mind, referee, what about the holding an?
:09:05. > :09:06.Joshua Buatsi needs a 10-8 round to get back on terms, and perhaps the
:09:07. > :09:12.more straightforward equation would be to knock this man out, take the
:09:13. > :09:15.judges out of it. Buatsi can't afford to demonstrate this kind of
:09:16. > :09:17.frustration, he has to remain focused and go in search of that
:09:18. > :09:27.finishing shot. Inside the final minute, the clock
:09:28. > :09:31.is Niyazymbetov's friend, and despite being told no holding,
:09:32. > :09:40.Niyazymbetov initiate a clinch once again and walks his man back across
:09:41. > :09:47.the ring in a rather gruesome waltzer. He is concerned, he knows
:09:48. > :09:52.that Buatsi has got a big punch about him, he is doing everything to
:09:53. > :09:59.stifle that. He just grabbed Buatsi on the inside, unless he can find it
:10:00. > :10:04.in these last ten seconds or so, Buatsi... He knows how to navigate
:10:05. > :10:09.his way around a ring, wonderfully, does Adilbek Niyazymbetov, and that
:10:10. > :10:11.came to the fore particularly in this final round, but it was a
:10:12. > :10:20.feature throughout the contest, and going through to the gold-medal bout
:10:21. > :10:30.will be Adilbek Niyazymbetov, and awaiting him in that final medal
:10:31. > :10:36.bout is La Cruz, they have a long-running rivalry, that will be a
:10:37. > :10:40.cracking bout, but Joshua Buatsi, try as he might in the third and
:10:41. > :10:43.final round, couldn't find the finishing blow that he needed,
:10:44. > :10:47.considering he trailed by two for all three judges. He put everything
:10:48. > :10:51.into it, good quality right-hand, but let's give him credit, he has
:10:52. > :10:53.had a fantastic tournament, been one of the most exciting boxers in the
:10:54. > :11:15.tournament given the knockouts. In the blue corner, Adilbek
:11:16. > :11:17.Niyazymbetov. So, Adilbek Niyazymbetov goes
:11:18. > :11:20.through to the gold-medal bout where he will face off against his
:11:21. > :11:28.familiar arrival Julio Cesar La Cruz of Cuba.
:11:29. > :11:37.Josh, congratulations, you got a bronze medal. Thank you, it is not
:11:38. > :11:43.what I came for, but it is a medal. I can't thank everyone by name, but
:11:44. > :11:48.thank you, I am not hurt, I am all good, I am just really disappointed.
:11:49. > :11:53.Are you disappointed also about the refereeing? You weren't really
:11:54. > :11:56.allowed to fight? He was holding, sliding, going behind me, the
:11:57. > :12:02.referee warned him, and I thought he would take off point, he didn't do
:12:03. > :12:06.it. It is what it is, I am upset. You fought four fights here, you
:12:07. > :12:09.stopped two of your opponents, and tonight you fought in front of a
:12:10. > :12:15.packed crowd, the atmosphere was amazing. What has your Olympic
:12:16. > :12:18.experience been like? The atmosphere was amazing, the Brazilian fans have
:12:19. > :12:31.been great, but again, I fell short, I didn't perform like... I am not a
:12:32. > :12:38.loser. I have lost... I have lost, man, to someone I could have beaten.
:12:39. > :12:43.Bad luck, but well done. You will be on the podium, you are a bronze
:12:44. > :12:46.medallist. Thank you everyone for their support, and the British fans
:12:47. > :12:52.back home, and if you are watching, I appreciate it, very grateful. Well
:12:53. > :12:56.said from Joshua Buatsi speaking to John Inverdale after that, and he
:12:57. > :13:02.will go home from Rio with a bronze medal. We have a bit of Joe Joyce
:13:03. > :13:06.coming up for you, is as well, and you might remember you might
:13:07. > :13:13.remember the other night we showed him winning just one night, or he
:13:14. > :13:17.was destroying dos Santos, we will show you his quarterfinals, so if he
:13:18. > :13:22.wins this, he will go through and he is guaranteed a medal in the boxing.
:13:23. > :13:27.There has been some banging here, and we have seen the workmen getting
:13:28. > :13:31.things ready, this is how they do things later night, it is quarter
:13:32. > :13:34.past nine in Rio, I know it is way past midnight back in the UK, but
:13:35. > :13:38.they are getting everything in position for the triathlon and
:13:39. > :13:50.marathon. The triathlon goes right pastors here on Thursday, we will
:13:51. > :13:53.see the Brownlies involved in that, and while we are watching those
:13:54. > :13:58.guys, there was a bit of this going on on the beach, as well. We have
:13:59. > :14:01.had a few romantic couples over the last few days on BBC Four, but I
:14:02. > :14:09.always thought there was a rule about no heavy petting, your is that
:14:10. > :14:13.just in a swimming pool? We call it fisherman's corner, the locals do,
:14:14. > :14:18.but we have had a lovely bit of petting on the beach here. They all
:14:19. > :14:22.seem to sit on that step, the same spot, I don't know what it is, they
:14:23. > :14:27.look out on the Atlantic, maybe it is Maria. Maria is having an effect
:14:28. > :14:31.on all of them, and nothing more sinister took place at any stage, we
:14:32. > :14:39.can assure you of that. Onto Joe Joyce in the super heavyweight
:14:40. > :14:45.division. He won bronze last year, and a gold in the Commonwealth
:14:46. > :14:48.Games, and also the European games as well, so he has a bit of pedigree
:14:49. > :14:54.when it comes to this sort of thing. He is in the quarterfinals, he is
:14:55. > :14:57.taking on Uzbekistan's Bakhodir Jalolov, who also won bronze in the
:14:58. > :14:58.Championship is as well, so here comes Joe Joyce, let's get that to
:14:59. > :15:16.the ring. We move up to the super heavyweight
:15:17. > :15:23.division, Joe Joyce approaching the boxing ring. This quarterfinal
:15:24. > :15:36.contest, a place in the medal contest at stake.
:15:37. > :16:14.His opponent, Bakhodir Jalolov with his elaborate entrance into the
:16:15. > :16:15.boxing ring. Introducing, the boxer in the red corner, representing
:16:16. > :16:45.Great Britain... Joe Joyce! Introducing, the boxer in the blue
:16:46. > :16:53.corner, representing Uzbekistan... Bakhodir Jalolov!
:16:54. > :16:58.Gentlemen, you keep your head up, no holding, always above waist height.
:16:59. > :17:18.Seconds, good luck. We are at the quarterfinal stage in
:17:19. > :17:21.the 91 kilograms plus superheavyweight division, this
:17:22. > :17:26.contest will determine who will go through to the medal stages of this
:17:27. > :17:32.tournament. It has been contested between boxers from Great Britain
:17:33. > :17:36.and Uzbekistan, the man in red is the British representative, Joe
:17:37. > :17:41.Joyce, the number three ranked boxer in the world, the bronze medallist,
:17:42. > :17:45.facing the fellow World Championship bronze medallist, the other losing
:17:46. > :17:53.semifinalist and that is Bakhodir Jalolov. 22 years of age, the
:17:54. > :18:00.tournament number six seed, ranked seventh in the world, Joe Joyce is
:18:01. > :18:04.six foot six. It is really important for Joe Joyce. This fella will not
:18:05. > :18:09.want anything to do with Joe Joyce, they will have done his homework, he
:18:10. > :18:16.is strong, on the front foot, this young boxer will look to hit and
:18:17. > :18:22.move and that is why killjoys has to the body, target with the right
:18:23. > :18:27.uppercut -- Joe Joyce. He has to slow down the feet of this
:18:28. > :18:32.Uzbekistan that boxer and work with the jab. Work with that right
:18:33. > :18:38.uppercut into the midsection. A man who has played a crucial part in the
:18:39. > :18:43.development of the British representative, good left hand from
:18:44. > :18:49.Jalolov. He is making Joe Joyce mess with that wonderful movement but
:18:50. > :19:00.Fraser Clark has fought him and he advised him, he said this man does
:19:01. > :19:05.not enjoy sustained pressure and advise Joe Joyce to put it on him.
:19:06. > :19:12.Joe Joyce possesses a terrific engine and can box really well for
:19:13. > :19:19.the full duration of the rounds. This fellow will slow down and once
:19:20. > :19:26.he does, that will allow Joe Joyce to work more to the body and get
:19:27. > :19:31.some quality shots. Not too bad from Joe Joyce, set a high pace, fast
:19:32. > :19:38.tempo, high workrate and he is going to get to this man and overwhelm him
:19:39. > :19:44.with work. Beginning to have a bit more success, Joe Joyce, good right
:19:45. > :19:48.left combination from Jalolov. Targeting the body with shots like
:19:49. > :19:54.that will slow down our fleetfooted individual. Jalolov took a hard
:19:55. > :19:59.right hand into the solar plexus. Still he is poking out long straight
:20:00. > :20:04.shots, disrupting the movement of Joe Joyce. He is targeting the body
:20:05. > :20:12.effectively and Jalolov backing off. Joe Joyce going to work. That hurt
:20:13. > :20:19.Jalolov, good work from Joe Joyce. He has set the tone and the pattern.
:20:20. > :20:32.Working downstairs. His opponent has give away there. He has been hurt.
:20:33. > :20:38.The ultimate mistake. When you get there, you have to set about him.
:20:39. > :20:44.Joe Joyce targeting the body, Jalolov worked well on the outside.
:20:45. > :20:48.Nice one, two there. Towards the end of the round, he made the classic
:20:49. > :20:55.mistake of showing some pain to the body. He was hurt, he showed it and
:20:56. > :21:01.that is all that Joe Joyce needs. Let us look at the scores. They have
:21:02. > :21:16.give it to Joe Joyce. So we go into the second round of
:21:17. > :21:21.this 91 kilograms plus superheavyweight quarterfinal and
:21:22. > :21:24.Joe Joyce begins on the front foot with a marauding attack against the
:21:25. > :21:30.man who is now struggling to keep them off. That is what I told you,
:21:31. > :21:35.once you show him that you are heard, he will keep coming and Joe
:21:36. > :21:39.Joyce is just getting warmed up, he has a great engine, great sustained
:21:40. > :21:45.pressure. Most certainly and the counters and the good left hand get
:21:46. > :21:50.through, the counters from Jalolov becoming more pedestrian and a bit
:21:51. > :21:56.slower and he is running into big shots from Joe Joyce. Jalolov has
:21:57. > :22:00.been heard, this will test his character and his bottle. Joe Joyce
:22:01. > :22:05.has to steady himself and keep the workrate going. Looking to his
:22:06. > :22:13.corner, the man in blue, per train negative body language already. Joe
:22:14. > :22:19.Joyce is the sting on that long and slender torso. Good work from Joe
:22:20. > :22:24.Joyce, in and out with the feed. Getting through with quality shots
:22:25. > :22:29.and again switches downstairs, good performance, has to keep it going.
:22:30. > :22:33.Jalolov is showing character, he has been heard repeatedly to the body
:22:34. > :22:40.and is spending most of his time covering up. Joe Joyce is helping
:22:41. > :22:46.himself. Jalolov with a furtive glance to his corner, looking for
:22:47. > :22:51.encouragement. Hard shot to the body once again. Jalolov showing signs of
:22:52. > :22:57.desperation. He will pass to the canvas. Weary fighter. The referee
:22:58. > :23:03.has given him every chance to recover. I think he is delaying the
:23:04. > :23:12.inevitable. He is tiring by the second. Joe Joyce still keeps
:23:13. > :23:19.coming. Doubled over from body shots from Joe Joyce. Jalolov in real
:23:20. > :23:23.trouble, almost entering survival mode but his pride season still
:23:24. > :23:32.poking out shots trying to keep this man at bay. A hard right hand sinks
:23:33. > :23:35.into the canvas. No count given. Joe Joyce will be encouraged by the fact
:23:36. > :23:42.that he can hurt this man and he has 30 seconds to put him on the floor
:23:43. > :23:46.and possibly keep him there. Jalolov is in desperate trouble and he
:23:47. > :23:56.deserves credit for continuing to compete. Every shop that Joe Joyce
:23:57. > :24:02.lands is affecting him more. Clearly a 10-8 round for a Joe Joyce. Total
:24:03. > :24:06.domination from the man in red, a great round of boxing, he has hurt
:24:07. > :24:13.his opponent several times. If this is not a 10-8, I will be amazed. Joe
:24:14. > :24:23.Joyce with an utterly dominant three minutes of boxing. Bakhodir Jalolov,
:24:24. > :24:29.so highly regarded, appeared to have little left in his gas tank. His
:24:30. > :24:35.corner trying to encourage him. They have not been on the receiving end
:24:36. > :24:41.of the punches from Joe Joyce. Joe Joyce just keeps coming. They have a
:24:42. > :24:48.saying in the gym, goal and get them, Joe, and he certainly did
:24:49. > :24:53.there. He is looking concerned for his team-mate. 10-9, but make no
:24:54. > :24:57.mistake, it was a dominant round for a Joe Joyce and a painful round for
:24:58. > :25:07.Bakhodir Jalolov and he would do well to hear the final bell in this
:25:08. > :25:14.contest. Hands clasped in prayer, perhaps divine intervention the only
:25:15. > :25:20.thing that can help this man now. Into the third and final round we go
:25:21. > :25:24.and Joe Joyce steps right back onto the logo of the boxing ring and
:25:25. > :25:30.walks him down. Jalolov betraying signs that he is heard. He is
:25:31. > :25:35.holding his eye. I do not think he wants much more of this. The referee
:25:36. > :25:43.holding the mandatory eight count and I think this is it. He deserves
:25:44. > :25:47.immense kudos. All he is doing is taking further punishment, but his
:25:48. > :25:57.pride will not allow him to concede. Joe Joyce taking off on this man.
:25:58. > :26:01.Joe Joyce keeps coming. I would be thinking about throwing in the
:26:02. > :26:07.towel, this fellow is struggling. He is turning away there. I know this
:26:08. > :26:13.is an Olympic quarterfinal, this young man, he is in a bit of
:26:14. > :26:19.trouble, he is going to get hurt. Joe Joyce trying to cut off the ring
:26:20. > :26:26.and prevent an cut of the skipper at that Jalolov is trying to fashion.
:26:27. > :26:30.Jolting left jab driving his man backwards, Jalolov is so highly
:26:31. > :26:36.thought of that he was the flag bearer for Uzbekistan at these
:26:37. > :26:46.Olympic Games. It looks as though his Olympics is coming to an end. He

:31:45. > :31:49.still don't think we are in Brazil, you cannot go in the sea that time
:31:50. > :31:53.of night with one pair of shorts on in Bognor Regis, surely that is the

:31:59. > :32:04.at the moment, they have some very attractive sport for you. The

:32:45. > :32:47.any of the headlines or some of the great performances from the day
:32:48. > :32:52.before, everything is available on the BBC website and on the iPlayer
:32:53. > :32:57.as well. I know we haven't got that many days of the Olympic Games left,
:32:58. > :33:00.but the website and the BBC Sport at our good tools for finding what is
:33:01. > :33:04.on where, and a schedule of every single day, so if you are wondering
:33:05. > :33:09.when the triathlon will take place, you can find that on the app and
:33:10. > :33:14.plan your viewing accordingly. I know some people back been saying,
:33:15. > :33:18.why are you switching from BBC One to BBC Two, what is on BBC Four,
:33:19. > :33:22.that is a really easy way of finding out which sport is an and you can go
:33:23. > :33:28.through the various red buttons on the website to see up to 24 live
:33:29. > :33:31.streams at the same time. So if you are struggling to find out what is
:33:32. > :33:36.on where, that is a one-stop shop to get things sorted. We are not having
:33:37. > :33:41.that much live sport tonight, we have reached that stage where at
:33:42. > :33:46.around about this time, there is much to show you, so live sport is
:33:47. > :33:49.over on BBC One, but we are going to show you one of the best pieces of
:33:50. > :33:56.action from earlier on today which you may well have missed. Yesterday
:33:57. > :33:59.on this channel we showed you Reggie Gusev in the quarterfinal of the
:34:00. > :34:04.men's singles, reaching the quarterfinals of the men's singles.
:34:05. > :34:07.Now we will show you Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, we featured
:34:08. > :34:12.them highly over the last few days on BBC Four. They were going in the
:34:13. > :34:19.semifinals, a chance to reach the gold-medal match, they are taking on
:34:20. > :34:21.China, they have been brilliant in the Olympic men's double so far,
:34:22. > :34:46.let's see how they got on today. So, Zhang to start game number two.
:34:47. > :34:52.And that was the kind of bullying nature we saw in their last win
:34:53. > :34:57.against the Japanese, higher power. Now, can they continue in this vein?
:34:58. > :35:22.They will have to rush the Chinese pair, no doubt about it.
:35:23. > :35:28.Frustration, you can see Langridge is just a little upset with himself.
:35:29. > :35:31.He said how tired he was yesterday in the post-match interview against
:35:32. > :35:33.the Japanese, glad he got it done in straight games, so he has plenty in
:35:34. > :36:07.the tank today. Great defence from Alison Lapper
:36:08. > :36:12.Bridge, but in the end, Fu would not be denied. Once they are on the
:36:13. > :36:38.front foot, they are very tough to budge.
:36:39. > :36:52.Yes, service illegal, above waist. The Brits have asked the service
:36:53. > :37:07.judge umpire to have a good look at that.
:37:08. > :37:16.Targeting the left hip of Ellis, and bearing fruit. Very aggressive legs,
:37:17. > :37:18.the Chinese pairing, just stamping on anything they can, and when it
:37:19. > :37:38.gets above net height, they pounce so quickly.
:37:39. > :37:47.The trouble being for the blues as well they don't have the lift aways
:37:48. > :37:51.and the clears so often, they want to keep the shuttle down but they
:37:52. > :37:52.are being beaten a lot in these fast, hard exchanges, so it is
:37:53. > :38:11.difficult. Very few unforced errors in the
:38:12. > :39:47.opening game for either Fu or Zhang. And the lead extenders to two, and
:39:48. > :39:52.the Brits can't afford fitted to go any further. You can see they are
:39:53. > :39:56.trying to pounce very early on to these returns to get the upper hand
:39:57. > :40:16.in the point, but the Chinese are up to it in response.
:40:17. > :40:25.Langridge razor sharp there. I guess that is how the conversation has
:40:26. > :40:29.gone, Chris, you have to be brave, get to the front court and stay
:40:30. > :40:50.there, get that racket up and try to get involved as much as you can.
:40:51. > :41:03.They are so good, the Stu, at forcing you to over press, because
:41:04. > :41:13.they batten down the hatches so well.
:41:14. > :41:21.More experienced at playing at this highest tempo, as is becoming
:41:22. > :41:31.further evident, but it is still only a two point game.
:41:32. > :41:40.The call to late, Langridge is the one barking out the orders, but it
:41:41. > :41:43.was a beautifully delivered shot. High level of skill there of that
:41:44. > :41:53.high shot to get it so tight to the net. Fu with devastating power, but
:41:54. > :41:54.also a light touch. They can't afford for this lead to extend any
:41:55. > :42:21.more. That time Langridge really showing
:42:22. > :42:24.off the power. There was a real injection of pace here from Chris
:42:25. > :42:25.Langridge, getting hold of this beautifully, got behind it so well
:42:26. > :42:53.and just dispatched. Is he taking the insult out? No.
:42:54. > :42:56.Sometimes I guess the insole kinks a little bit and is uncomfortable
:42:57. > :42:57.against the toes, which I think is what has happened, because it didn't
:42:58. > :43:12.look like some kind of orthotic. Not tactical, this, at all. These
:43:13. > :43:22.guys are such creatures of habit, as well, it's all got to be just right.
:43:23. > :43:39.You can see the intensity in the eyes of all four here.
:43:40. > :43:46.Doesn't give a lot of weight emotionally, Fu or Zhang, very
:43:47. > :44:04.stonefaced, businesslike. Yes, I'm sure he decided just a
:44:05. > :44:09.little too late there, that that shuttle was going in. Perfectly
:44:10. > :44:14.weighted lift away here from Langridge, look at this, hesitancy,
:44:15. > :44:17.tries to redeem himself, unable. Only the second point that the Brits
:44:18. > :44:50.have scored on serve. So, the lead sticking at around two.
:44:51. > :44:52.It was at this point in the opening game that they started to play their
:44:53. > :45:10.very best, Langridge and Ellis. Such a shame, because Marcus Ellis
:45:11. > :45:16.spread the court well with the smash, just seem to snatch at it a
:45:17. > :45:20.little bit. Just over pressing, a little anxious, of course they are.
:45:21. > :45:22.Scoreboard pressure now started to strangle the British team a little,
:45:23. > :45:31.stifling their creativity. The lead, as big as it has been,
:45:32. > :46:00.throughout this second game. Yes, Zhang Nan dealing with most of
:46:01. > :46:06.the overheads. The big difference was when Fu Haifeng decided to come
:46:07. > :46:10.to the party. Yes, absolutely, look at that, thunderous, so strong in
:46:11. > :46:13.the forearm and he can often be out of position but because he is so
:46:14. > :46:24.strong, he ripped through the shuttle.
:46:25. > :46:36.He really is a calming influence, the coach.
:46:37. > :46:42.But the problem for the British pair is that Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan are
:46:43. > :46:51.back in this calm zone that they have. Electric quickness but there
:46:52. > :46:57.is a serenity about them. Yes, they are very good at running with the
:46:58. > :47:05.lead as we saw in the opening game. Will they falter a little? The back
:47:06. > :47:24.support that Chris Langridge wears throughout. So, it was double gold,
:47:25. > :47:48.in London. Will it be another final here in Rio?
:47:49. > :48:02.The pressure is telling. Showed a lot of character in that point. Can
:48:03. > :48:06.they build on this? They have only managed to generate a run of three
:48:07. > :48:08.consecutive points, two consecutive points in game number one and unable
:48:09. > :48:38.to do so in game number two. A few British bands in the crowd
:48:39. > :48:51.making their presence felt. -- bands. -- fans.
:48:52. > :49:03.Suddenly it is all changing! Real hope now. Spirited clothes from
:49:04. > :49:27.Chris Langridge, pre-empting the response really well.
:49:28. > :50:02.Really surprised that Zhang Nan missed that. I think it was due to
:50:03. > :50:06.one of the men in blue closing minute down and he took his eye off
:50:07. > :50:12.the shuttle. The dominance that they had, a lot of the first game, seems
:50:13. > :50:22.to have gone now, are very close match. It is all about the British
:50:23. > :50:35.players keeping the angle in the knees.
:50:36. > :50:41.Chris Langridge tried the interception but was unable to deal
:50:42. > :50:44.with the power. A little bit of a miscommunication, Chris Langridge
:50:45. > :50:53.was upset because he thought it was a shuttle for Marcus Ellis. He is
:50:54. > :50:55.upset with himself there. It is the speed that the Chinese team are
:50:56. > :51:51.playing with, it is difficult to live with.
:51:52. > :52:13.Again, just too much. They two point lead re-emerges. -- a two lead
:52:14. > :52:30.emerges. -- point. They have a real sting, both of them.
:52:31. > :52:39.Did so well reading the serve but were unable to really capitalise. A
:52:40. > :53:00.little greedy with the angle, but a great idea nonetheless.
:53:01. > :53:08.Well plays. Just about staying in touch. They have got to get a run
:53:09. > :53:48.going at some stage. Well played. Getting more and more
:53:49. > :53:54.exciting now. Marcus Ellis threading a needle and the lead is down to
:53:55. > :53:58.one. Very evident in the physical intensity of Marcus Ellis, he is all
:53:59. > :54:03.over the net, hunting down the shuttle aggressively. He is playing
:54:04. > :54:16.every point! Looking pretty confident!
:54:17. > :54:26.It is long and they are level. First time for a while, they have trailed
:54:27. > :54:51.by three and now it is 15 each. And again! What a patch this is for
:54:52. > :55:24.Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis. Starting to believe.
:55:25. > :55:37.How about that? Did not win the point but that was quite
:55:38. > :55:41.astonishing! He was always going to be the target when he slipped to the
:55:42. > :55:51.floor and he was in no hurry to get up, but he did well, fended off a
:55:52. > :56:01.couple of blows there. They say do not take this lying down, well, he
:56:02. > :56:03.nearly did! Shows you the measure of the intensity and we are back level
:56:04. > :56:19.at 16. Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan so
:56:20. > :56:20.experienced in this kind of atmosphere. Invariably coming out on
:56:21. > :56:49.top. They are Olympic champions. He is OK, direct hit, but no harm
:56:50. > :56:57.done, but the Chinese are in front now, though. Marcus Ellis trying to
:56:58. > :56:58.get out of the way because I think he felt the shuttle was going long
:56:59. > :57:32.but he was unable to do so. Yes, so the gap, very well directed.
:57:33. > :57:37.We are level again. Good sense of being alert and calm simultaneously
:57:38. > :57:46.from Chris Langridge, very focused, excellent play. He has really picked
:57:47. > :58:08.his game up in the second game. Much more of a factor.
:58:09. > :58:17.There are going to challenge. They might as well. It is getting late
:58:18. > :58:23.on. They do have two reviews each game. Shuttle called blog. It did
:58:24. > :58:36.seem extremely close. -- long. So, the Chinese are back in the
:58:37. > :58:58.lead. Somehow, you sense these two will
:58:59. > :58:59.probably not get tight, they have been so experienced in these
:59:00. > :59:14.moments. Two points away from the Olympic
:59:15. > :59:46.final. Good judgment again. Three match
:59:47. > :00:23.points for China. Good stuff from Chris Langridge,
:00:24. > :00:29.keeping their hopes alive, a little bit of fortune and we will take
:00:30. > :00:34.anything right now. Absolutely. Hard in the mouth moment, it bobbles on
:00:35. > :00:38.top of the net, unable to confirm, looks like it landed. Clarity. They
:00:39. > :00:50.are still alive in this one. A few more beads of sweat rubbed
:00:51. > :01:39.away. It wasn't to be. The Chinese got off
:01:40. > :01:43.to a terrific start, and they just about held on in the end. Though
:01:44. > :01:50.valiant effort from Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, but they are
:01:51. > :01:56.beaten at the semifinal stage. Still a chance of a medal, of course that
:01:57. > :02:04.it is Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan who go through to the final on Friday.
:02:05. > :02:10.A cracking performance from Ellison language, but finally they have met
:02:11. > :02:17.their match. They have produced some sub stunning stuff, -- stunning
:02:18. > :02:22.stuff, but they still have an opportunity to leave these Rio games
:02:23. > :02:26.with the bronze. And that bronze medal match will take place on
:02:27. > :02:34.Thursday at three o'clock, and they play the other Chinese pair in that
:02:35. > :02:38.bronze medal match. So we have come towards the end of our coverage on
:02:39. > :02:45.BBC Four the day 11 of the games. They are still getting things ready
:02:46. > :02:51.here in Copacabana, some furious angle grinding going on, the
:02:52. > :02:56.triathlon takes place in two days, they are sorting out an area, maybe
:02:57. > :03:01.a water station, that fellow is banging a stake into one of the main
:03:02. > :03:03.roads. People are looking on slightly bemused at what is
:03:04. > :03:08.happening, but I'm sure they know what they are doing, and by the time
:03:09. > :03:11.the triathlon and the marathon, and after that the weekend starts,
:03:12. > :03:16.everything will be fine. I think that is a drinks station they are
:03:17. > :03:21.making. Good to know they would be moving anywhere. Just a few days
:03:22. > :03:26.before the triathlon actually starts. Some of the highlights from
:03:27. > :03:31.day 12, a fantastic volleyball match to look forward to, not actually in
:03:32. > :03:35.our time, but worth staying up for, Brazil against Argentina. We have
:03:36. > :03:41.told you a lot about the local rivalry, women's golf starts
:03:42. > :03:45.tomorrow, Justin Rose leaving here with the gold medal, he is now back
:03:46. > :03:50.at home, but Charley Hull and Katrina Matthew going to Team GB in
:03:51. > :03:53.the women's golf. We have a long interview we will play with Justin
:03:54. > :03:59.Rose, that is why I was late yesterday, I spoke to him at British
:04:00. > :04:05.house here in Rio, and also Jessica Ennis-Hill, reflection from both of
:04:06. > :04:09.those, we will play you those at length over the next few days here
:04:10. > :04:17.on BBC Four, and the women's hockey, Team GB go in the semifinal, bronze
:04:18. > :04:20.four years ago in London the Kate Richardson-Walsh's side, and they
:04:21. > :04:24.take on New Zealand, that may be an BBC One, but if it is available on
:04:25. > :04:28.BBC Four, we will keep you up-to-date. We will be back from
:04:29. > :04:33.Rand about one o'clock tomorrow, all the way through until two o'clock in
:04:34. > :04:38.the morning. We do appreciate all your interaction. I'm getting told
:04:39. > :04:41.off by the rest of the BBC Four Cruyff are looking iPhone to
:04:42. > :04:45.regularly, but you keep sending so many messages, and they are well
:04:46. > :04:49.worth reading. We will leave you with the image of the night as we
:04:50. > :04:52.build up to Maria's dad coming on the programme tomorrow, it really is
:04:53. > :04:57.the golden couple from the Team GB perspective of today, Jason Kenny
:04:58. > :05:02.and Laura Trott, both on the podium, between them they have ten gold
:05:03. > :05:06.medals, when they get married, if Spandau Ballet are not playing at
:05:07. > :05:09.their wedding, there is something wrong with the world! Good night.
