:00:00. > :00:00.referee any excuse to look at him. This gives fans the opportunity to

:00:07. > :00:17.Parker to get them within one shot -- it gives France the opportunity.

:00:18. > :00:21.They are giving hurtle and unsportsmanlike deliberate foul, but

:00:22. > :00:34.is harsh. Let's just check this. He was giving the foul up. It hasn't

:00:35. > :00:38.been given as deliberate, excuse me, but they have given the basket to

:00:39. > :00:43.Rubio, although Heurtel's file was supposedly to stop him from getting

:00:44. > :00:51.the shooting foul. So another break goes to Spain, France and

:00:52. > :01:10.intentionally helping them again. -- unintentionally.

:01:11. > :01:19.Rubio in the corner, to Fernandez, who missed. Kept in play but Parker

:01:20. > :01:28.comes away with it and dribbles it out. He was caught by Navarro. Ricky

:01:29. > :01:31.Rubio is basically the one Spanish player who the French will lay-off,

:01:32. > :01:38.daring him to take the long 3-point shot. The rest of them, you can't

:01:39. > :01:46.afford to do that. Four. It is an 8-point break now. A with four

:01:47. > :01:58.minutes remaining in this half. Gobert setting up the screen, Batum

:01:59. > :02:11.had the better passed. The fast break with Navarro, bouncing it out

:02:12. > :02:18.to Mirotic. Very few fast breaks in this game so far. Mirotic from

:02:19. > :02:32.outside and France with their own 3-pointer. It may be four because

:02:33. > :02:41.Batum has picked up the foul. The opportunity to make it a four point

:02:42. > :02:47.play here. It was soft. Add the other end, beautiful to watch.

:02:48. > :02:59.Mirotic, 6-foot tent and he can shoot from out there like that. --

:03:00. > :03:13.Exford ten -- 6-foot ten. It was the foul from Mirotic on Pietrus. Parker

:03:14. > :03:17.asking the referee was going on. Navarro is coming out. Summoning of

:03:18. > :03:21.these players coming from the NBA and despite the fact they are fairly

:03:22. > :03:26.deep into the tournament, they are still trying to fathom some of the

:03:27. > :03:32.referee's decisions. Parker thought that one went off him and came off a

:03:33. > :03:43.Spanish leg, which I think was the case. Fernandez, the three. The 24th

:03:44. > :03:50.second whistle. That surprises me, I'm surprised they don't use the

:03:51. > :03:55.horn. -- 24 second. It goes off even though the ball is in the air. Spain

:03:56. > :04:05.capitalising with another three and it is the 11 point lead. Diot. The

:04:06. > :04:13.ball is lost on the dribble, picks it up. Tied up by Mirotic who takes

:04:14. > :04:16.the ball away from him. Spain come down, it is the 24 second whistle

:04:17. > :04:26.again, a couple of players looking around to see what was going on.

:04:27. > :04:35.Gasol. Fernandez puts it up in the air for Gasol but it was nowhere

:04:36. > :04:41.near it. Batum takes it. The foul on Keurtel to stop the fast break. An

:04:42. > :04:47.11 point lead from Spain. Starting to get away from France now. BAtum

:04:48. > :04:51.is going to take a rest. They need fresh legs because at the moment

:04:52. > :04:58.they are struggling a little. The only offence they have put together

:04:59. > :05:08.really has been Tony Parker in both halves. Sometimes they can get the

:05:09. > :05:12.ball into Diot. Gobert drawing the foul. He has been impressive, he has

:05:13. > :05:18.come out and made an immediate impact. Not much of a foul, it has

:05:19. > :05:24.to be said. That's what they want from him, they need some

:05:25. > :05:29.penetration, Spain, inspired, especially when Mirotic is the

:05:30. > :05:46.centre forward. Gobert makes the foul shots. Ricky Rubio bringing it

:05:47. > :05:58.up. Wayne. -- for Spain. Gobert wants to go in, spins, the fade

:05:59. > :06:04.away. Over two Keurtel. Taking the jumper, that is way off, Gobert

:06:05. > :06:07.tipped it and it didn't go in. Spain come down with the ball. Another

:06:08. > :06:15.opportunity missed by the French. Rudy Fernandez. Rubio, over two

:06:16. > :06:19.Mirotic who is left alone. Moving calmly to the side as Gobert came

:06:20. > :06:31.out and he hit the three. Two minutes to play. Shuffled aside,

:06:32. > :06:37.just the jump to the right. Parker skipping to the side, the reverse

:06:38. > :06:54.layup doesn't go. You can see the frustration from Keurtel. Ricky

:06:55. > :06:58.Rubio drives, Gasol stops it. The French defence is looking pretty

:06:59. > :07:09.ragged now. That was a clean line to the hoop and just the little dish

:07:10. > :07:13.off, Gasol. There was the foul on Rubio and then on Gasol. The first

:07:14. > :07:20.one was on call and the second one was. Gasol has the chance to

:07:21. > :07:30.complete the 3-point play. Which he doesn't. Gasol with the rebound,

:07:31. > :07:39.France bring it up slowly, down by 13 with a minute and a half left in

:07:40. > :07:44.the first half. Tony Parker, I've got to do it myself, he's thinking.

:07:45. > :07:55.Mirotic with the rebound. Long crosscourt pass.

:07:56. > :08:10.Gasol, crosscourt, Rubio. Fernandez, the three. Gobert with the rebound.

:08:11. > :08:24.Under one minute to go. Parker, down on the baseline. It is good, it is

:08:25. > :08:28.41-30. France need a few more of those. Still trailing by 11 and I

:08:29. > :08:32.think Spain will be very happy with their work so far in this match. The

:08:33. > :08:44.London silver medallists are looking composed. Hitting the two, it is

:08:45. > :08:54.4330, Tillie. France can work the last shot with ten on the clock now

:08:55. > :09:03.-- 43-30. The screen from Gobert. Gobert is fouled by Mirotic. A bit

:09:04. > :09:09.frustrated, Mirotic, that he didn't cover it better. Look how the pass

:09:10. > :09:20.comes. Mirotic turns around and fouled Gasol. That is Tillie. Spain

:09:21. > :09:24.look like the better offence. You might like to draw the comparison

:09:25. > :09:27.with Australia, keeping the same pattern of play no matter who is in,

:09:28. > :09:34.rotating players, getting good contributions. I suppose the

:09:35. > :09:39.question with so many players in their mid-30s, can they keep it up?

:09:40. > :09:43.France do have some veterans but they do have some younger

:09:44. > :09:52.contributors to their team. That could be a factor later on. Oh,

:09:53. > :10:03.Tillie attempting the 3-pointer. One happy Spanish fan. Spain leading

:10:04. > :10:07.France in the quarterfinal, 43-30. STUDIO: Rather impressive lead for

:10:08. > :10:13.Spain. We'll let you know what happens in that later on. 20 of live

:10:14. > :10:18.sports to get through tonight. Thank you to those of you who have joined

:10:19. > :10:23.us already. We appreciate your time and you being here and all of your

:10:24. > :10:32.texts and tweaked. Pat says he appreciates the pointless statistic

:10:33. > :10:39.about Eva Longoria. If you like that, we have plenty more guff

:10:40. > :10:43.coming up. This area of Copacabana beach is in Milly called Fisherman

:10:44. > :10:49.'S Corner because this is where the fishermen congregate, they go here

:10:50. > :10:57.late at night -- is normally called. It is packed with humans sunbathing

:10:58. > :11:00.but there is a fishing boat for the first time, patrolling the shore.

:11:01. > :11:06.Normally there is a military vehicle as well, for security purposes. Did

:11:07. > :11:11.I say vehicle, I meant boat, a military vessel, certainly not a

:11:12. > :11:21.beer called! What about that thing in the Spy Who Loved Me. -- not a

:11:22. > :11:24.vehicle. We will keep you up-to-date with the goal because Justin Rose

:11:25. > :11:28.won a Gold Medal in the men's tournament last week. Now he is

:11:29. > :11:34.safely at home and Charley Hull and Catriona Matthew form the team --

:11:35. > :11:39.from the Team GB perspective are trying to do the same. The course is

:11:40. > :11:45.about ten miles that way, going along the coast, you eventually get

:11:46. > :11:48.to Baha where the golf course has been built. Before we show you the

:11:49. > :11:56.action, Charley Hull has been preparing for these Games by having

:11:57. > :11:59.a chat with us. We are at the 12th, going to get going. You brought the

:12:00. > :12:01.weather with you, then? Didn't pick the best of days. We are going to

:12:02. > :12:15.enjoy it. I don't need to be nervous about

:12:16. > :12:23.being in a buggy with you. Yeah, positive. That was a very good shot.

:12:24. > :12:31.Surprised. Hammond times a week do you play? That quarter, five. -- how

:12:32. > :12:37.many times. That's more than me. -- about four, five. Ranked amongst the

:12:38. > :12:41.top 30 in the world and yet still only 20 years old, Charley Hull has

:12:42. > :12:45.a chance of winning a medal for Great Britain in the women's golf

:12:46. > :12:49.competition. How you looking forward to the Olympics? Really looking

:12:50. > :12:55.forward to it, it's going to be a lot of fun. A great experience,

:12:56. > :12:57.staying in the Olympic Village, meeting different athletes and

:12:58. > :13:03.hopefully I can watch a couple of other sports as well. I think she

:13:04. > :13:09.might hit it in the water. My prediction is right. Splash! Use

:13:10. > :13:16.skimmed it as well. I'm worried we don't have enough balls. -- you

:13:17. > :13:21.skimmed it. Golf hasn't been played at the Olympics for more than 100

:13:22. > :13:25.years and while there has been of controversy around the male players,

:13:26. > :13:31.it hasn't put off the women -- there has been a lot of controversy. I

:13:32. > :13:36.haven't been to South America. I love being British, it makes me

:13:37. > :13:48.proud, it's great. Good shot. She says between gritted teeth! Don't

:13:49. > :13:58.you dare. Ooh. Told you! Boom! Loved it. So, to stand up on the podium

:13:59. > :14:02.with a Gold Medal, can you imagine the atmosphere? Yeah, I think it

:14:03. > :14:06.will be brilliant. I'm not going to think too far ahead but it is

:14:07. > :14:11.definitely exciting. You just take everything in your stride. Yes

:14:12. > :14:20.because I love playing golf, it's only a sport. By don't want to

:14:21. > :14:25.Sydney of -- see any of that at the Olympics. The greens are much

:14:26. > :14:36.faster. I got a half with you! Thank you. I enjoyed it.

:14:37. > :14:46.My BBC breakfast collie, Naga Munchetty, with Charley Hull. --

:14:47. > :14:53.colleague. One of the favourites for the tournament, Inbee Park, leading

:14:54. > :14:57.the way on 5-under par. Quite a few players bunched together on 4-under

:14:58. > :15:03.par. Charley Hull is currently two shots off the lead. Let's just show

:15:04. > :15:08.you an opportunity she had on the 13th to get to 4-under par. This is

:15:09. > :15:19.the putt of Charley Hull from about 15, 16 feet. A few moments ago. Ooh!

:15:20. > :15:25.Burning the edge, I believe. That is the golf commentary phrase. We can

:15:26. > :15:29.pick up with our full-time golf commentators now to bring you the

:15:30. > :15:47.live action from day one as Charley Hull has a few left to play.

:15:48. > :15:56.COMMENTATOR: This hole golf course was designed from an environmental

:15:57. > :16:02.perspective. They were very conscious of everything

:16:03. > :16:13.environmental in designing it. This is a birdie opportunity for

:16:14. > :16:24.Paraguay. What a great finish. She will feel great walking off, making

:16:25. > :16:28.a 20 foot putt. The young lady who had that wonderful year in 2006 as a

:16:29. > :16:34.rookie and walked away with them end of season play-off prize, only a

:16:35. > :16:48.million. That is an even par round, and a hug from mum. In this stuff,

:16:49. > :17:02.it is like walking through a sand dune. That's right. She is aiming at

:17:03. > :17:29.that TV tower. It is all about the contact. That is a world-class shot.

:17:30. > :18:02.Still a bit of work to do for Anna Nordqvist.

:18:03. > :18:12.Now, Lydia Ko. What will the girls be using here? I know she has three

:18:13. > :18:31.rescues in her bag. A good try from Lydia. It hasn't

:18:32. > :18:36.quite happened for her yet, but she is a girl who seems to have an

:18:37. > :18:48.attitude way beyond her years and she will certainly be there, come

:18:49. > :18:54.Sunday. This is the 17th hole, the par-3. It is the shortest par-3 on

:18:55. > :19:01.the golf course, and yet in some ways, it is not the easiest play. It

:19:02. > :19:10.is probably only a nine iron for the girls. She made beautiful contact.

:19:11. > :19:19.That is the tented village in the background, the entry where the

:19:20. > :19:28.crowd come in. Charley Hull, for her birdie. This to get to four under.

:19:29. > :19:36.Oh! It looks like a wonderful putt from Charley Hull. Did everything to

:19:37. > :19:48.go in the hole. Great to watch, isn't she? She plays so quick. She

:19:49. > :19:56.gets on with it. This is a tricky part, because she is coming up and

:19:57. > :20:35.over with two different speeds. Very good effort.

:20:36. > :20:40.The girls swing so well. They obviously don't have the power you

:20:41. > :20:47.would see watching the men, but their spring play seems to be

:20:48. > :20:54.consistent and good. Great tempo, isn't it? -- swing play. And yet

:20:55. > :20:58.even Lydia Ko, who is world number one, she is doing things with her

:20:59. > :21:05.swing. Working with David Leadbetter. Very successful at the

:21:06. > :21:15.moment. Got married last week? It was last week, if not the week

:21:16. > :21:34.before. There is that same putt coming down and over the hill.

:21:35. > :21:50.That is going to be a double bogey for Anna Nordqvist. 12, 13, 14, 15

:21:51. > :21:56.and 11, that is a tough batch of holes. The men were the same last

:21:57. > :22:02.week. Not much scoring went on with those holes. But then 16, 17 and 18,

:22:03. > :22:08.a lot of players picked up shots. And start you something. -- the

:22:09. > :22:34.start gives you something. I have to ask you about the

:22:35. > :22:39.hole-in-one, Justin Rose. Was there any celebration? Were you around?

:22:40. > :22:46.Before you answer that, what about the 15th? This is the 15th. I'm

:22:47. > :22:51.surprised more players are not choosing to carry that and leave

:22:52. > :22:55.themselves a short iron in. A lot of players are leaving themselves 160

:22:56. > :23:02.yards. It is a difficult pin today on the left-hand side. It is a hole

:23:03. > :23:08.you would be happy making par on, that is for sure. Yes, first-ever

:23:09. > :23:12.hole-in-one 112 years ago, there were no holes in one, said Justin

:23:13. > :23:13.has the honour of having the first hole-in-one and winning the gold

:23:14. > :23:53.medal on this occasion. This is a good chance to look at

:23:54. > :25:15.Lydia Ko. It is a very wide fairway. She has

:25:16. > :25:19.hit it level with the bunker. She just skirted the edge of the bunker.

:25:20. > :25:30.I don't know if that was intended, she has got away with it.

:25:31. > :25:50.Anna Nordqvist back to level after bogey on 14. The two Irish players,

:25:51. > :25:53.have they had a little practice after them around? Leona was first

:25:54. > :25:57.out this morning, so she has finished now. She did some practice.

:25:58. > :26:02.She has had some lunch and gone back to the Olympic Village. And the

:26:03. > :26:07.other girl, Stephanie, is just having lunch with her mum and is

:26:08. > :26:13.going to hit a few balls. What are you going to do now? I am going back

:26:14. > :26:17.to the Olympic Village to chat with Stephanie first. Then I will see

:26:18. > :26:25.what is on tonight and maybe choose an event to support.

:26:26. > :26:36.This is that horrible stuff. She has missed it on the left-hand side. She

:26:37. > :26:41.has a very difficult pitch from here, Sandra Gal. She is coming up a

:26:42. > :27:02.very severe slope and it is a narrow green.

:27:03. > :27:06.Looks like she is going to run all the way along the ground, maybe a

:27:07. > :27:32.6-iron or 7-iron. It is going to be short. So now she

:27:33. > :27:46.is battling for par on this short par-4.

:27:47. > :27:51.Now she has the same options again of running along the ground or maybe

:27:52. > :27:58.lobbying it up. She is going into the wind, which will help her in

:27:59. > :28:03.terms of spin. She has enough room from the edge of the green to the

:28:04. > :28:06.flag to pitch it in. With the men last week and the women this week,

:28:07. > :28:14.we have seen them chipping off this grass. They are able to create a lot

:28:15. > :28:28.of spin. That is what Sandra is trying to do here.

:28:29. > :28:41.A little bit of work to do for her part, but it is a great golf course.

:28:42. > :28:49.It has been wonderful to watch. The men's tournament was fabulous. That

:28:50. > :28:52.is Alena Sharp, from Canada. And we are looking forward tomorrow to

:28:53. > :28:55.seeing Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow. Let's watched Charley Hull

:28:56. > :29:26.from Great Britain. 172, the wind coming down off her

:29:27. > :29:42.right. That is going down to the bottom,

:29:43. > :29:50.well below the green surface. It will be a tricky up from Charley

:29:51. > :30:07.from there. -- a tricky up-and-down for Charley.

:30:08. > :30:19.Sit, she is saying. That is OK. She has the ability to put the ball from

:30:20. > :30:24.there. So which event are you going to watch tonight? I don't know, I

:30:25. > :30:29.need to look at the schedule. I think there is handball on tonight,

:30:30. > :30:36.which is a fantastic game to watch. Very physical. And I think the

:30:37. > :30:38.women's event is on tonight, so I may go to that. There are some

:30:39. > :30:54.badminton on, which I enjoy as well. Is wonderful to have you here. Good

:30:55. > :31:01.luck to the Irish. Golf, a big thumbs up. Golf's the winner. All of

:31:02. > :31:06.these women this week and the men last week our winners for coming and

:31:07. > :31:11.supporting Olympic golf, supporting their sport and their countries.

:31:12. > :31:21.Hopefully by all going to walk away feeling like they are Olympians.

:31:22. > :31:32.Lydia, what a talent. She has hit its level with that bunker. That

:31:33. > :31:42.fairway is wide enough for her to hit into. 135, 20 yards closer to

:31:43. > :31:46.the pin than Charley Hull, so this one will spend quite quickly. There

:31:47. > :31:49.you go, that's the advantage. Oh, brilliant, get in! What a way to

:31:50. > :32:13.finish! Yes! Days like this, I'm like, is

:32:14. > :32:17.that it? Well done, Lydia. Certainly set up by the aggressive play from

:32:18. > :32:29.the Wolfsburg, hitting from 135, probably an 8-iron -- from the tee.

:32:30. > :32:45.Yes, it is in, Lydia. Perfect stop you let it had a little

:32:46. > :32:55.look in, make sure it isn't too dark. That will make her feel better

:32:56. > :32:59.as she comes to 16, 17 and 18. It sets up for the finish, they are

:33:00. > :33:04.holes that she can take advantage of. Brilliant. Well done, Lydia Ko.

:33:05. > :33:13.As predicted by Paul McGinley. Paul, thanks so much. Lovely. Go and enjoy

:33:14. > :33:17.the badminton. I'm going to check whatever is on, I'll find something.

:33:18. > :33:18.Good luck at the Italian Open and that little thing called the Ryder

:33:19. > :33:50.Cup. Thank you. Just another look at that shot

:33:51. > :33:57.again. Brilliant from Lydia Ko. She didn't really know it had gone in. I

:33:58. > :34:05.know a fellow New Zealander nude it had gone in. Was at the back of the

:34:06. > :34:13.box -- knew it had gone in. They have been peppering the whole all

:34:14. > :34:21.day. -- the hole. Charley Hull coming here. She is in a tie for

:34:22. > :34:29.11th place now, Lydia. Fascinating to listen to Paul McGinley. Telling

:34:30. > :34:31.me that the greens are running at about 11, slower than they were on

:34:32. > :34:54.the Sunday for the men. It is sometimes said that Lydia's go

:34:55. > :35:09.to club is a Which? And she can use it like a wand. It wasn't a Which?

:35:10. > :35:21.-- it wasn't a wedge. She is able to dump them in next to the pin. Now,

:35:22. > :35:34.on the same hole, taking the more conventional route but she has left

:35:35. > :35:45.that very short. It is another eagle we have had today.

:35:46. > :36:59.Well done, Charley Hull. Nice putt. Lydia Ko's scorecard. If it wasn't

:37:00. > :37:03.for those two bogeys in the first four holds, it would have been a

:37:04. > :37:08.very low round of golf. It would have put her close to the leaders

:37:09. > :37:21.but as it is, she is 2-under, three bogeys on the card. One eagle and

:37:22. > :37:28.three birdies. The short par-4 16th is to follow for these three. And

:37:29. > :37:36.then the considerably shorter par-3 17th and the par-5, into the wind.

:37:37. > :37:54.Players are taking the four wedge for their third shot into the green.

:37:55. > :38:19.We have had a two, three and a five on this hole.

:38:20. > :38:41.This is China's Lin Xiru, a two-time winner on the Ladies European Tour,

:38:42. > :38:47.winning the Sanya Open in 2014 and a year later. Abbreviated swing,

:38:48. > :38:52.trying to punch it into the turf to get a bit of traction on the ball.

:38:53. > :39:16.Left it a couple of inches from the hole. Nice shot.

:39:17. > :39:42.Nice, controlled swing. In the centre of the green, the smart play.

:39:43. > :39:44.The pain will be cut in some tight positions over the next three days

:39:45. > :40:00.-- the pin. Back on 17. A member of the Korean

:40:01. > :40:47.contingent. Any country that had anything up to

:40:48. > :40:53.four golfers in the top 50 at the -- in the world rankings could have all

:40:54. > :41:03.four going to the Olympic Games. That's why we are seeing a few

:41:04. > :41:14.Korean red shirts today. Now, Jutanugarn, still 4-under.

:41:15. > :41:25.Rolling back down off the slope on 16. Going with the iron. She doesn't

:41:26. > :41:35.carry a driver in her bag. It is always free would or 2-iron off the

:41:36. > :41:37.tee. I think that was the 2-iron. I think one day she will endeavour to

:41:38. > :42:12.master the driver. Trying to get another birdie before

:42:13. > :42:18.she finishes to get a share of the lead. She is at 4-under at the

:42:19. > :42:22.moment. She has gone well, Brendan, not putting a foot wrong today,

:42:23. > :42:26.birdies on the first, fourth and seventh and the tenth. Everything

:42:27. > :42:34.else has been par. Another chance for birdie on 16 after that she

:42:35. > :42:46.shot. Stacy Lewis, she's had troubles on the back nine. She is

:42:47. > :42:57.now at plus one. -- after that tee shot.

:42:58. > :43:10.Nice shot, nice shot. Perfect position to get and the pin on the

:43:11. > :43:21.Iraq hand side of the green, the ideal place to be. Now, Lopez.

:43:22. > :43:34.From Mexico. Going, going! As Paul McGinley would say, it looked a bit

:43:35. > :43:46.dark in there and it didn't want to go in.

:43:47. > :43:54.66, Inbee Park, in the clubhouse. Of course Jutanugarn has a great chance

:43:55. > :44:04.over the closing holes to go past her. Paul was saying that 11-15,

:44:05. > :44:10.difficult holes. The toughest part of the golf course. And then, 16-18,

:44:11. > :44:18.you get rewarded. As long as the wind isn't blowing to strongly, but

:44:19. > :44:27.even on 17, the wind can be an issue -- too strongly. You get the feeling

:44:28. > :44:29.that standing on the platform, in the fresh air, the wind had died

:44:30. > :44:48.down a bit. STUDIO: Just to let you know, we are

:44:49. > :44:52.going to continue watching the golf here on BBC Four. If you wish to

:44:53. > :45:01.continue watching the basketball between France and Spain, it is on

:45:02. > :45:04.the Red Button, or on the website and app. We'll keep you up-to-date

:45:05. > :45:09.with the scoring, Spain are currently well ahead of France, 20

:45:10. > :45:13.wins clear at the moment in the basketball quarterfinals. We are

:45:14. > :45:18.going to stay with the golf, with Charley Hull playing so well and

:45:19. > :45:22.we'll probably take it to the conclusion of the first round. The

:45:23. > :45:58.choice is yours. Let's go back to the commentators.

:45:59. > :46:44.Can it be a birdie finish? Yes, it will. That is a great finish.

:46:45. > :47:25.Finishes with a birdie on 18, well done.

:47:26. > :47:36.Yes! She was pleased it hit the back of the hole and dropped, because it

:47:37. > :48:11.was going fast. What time is it in New Zealand now,

:48:12. > :48:16.for people watching Lydia Ko on her round of golf? It would be 6.50 in

:48:17. > :48:22.the morning, if my memory serves correctly, 15 hours behind. People

:48:23. > :48:36.are getting up and having birdies with their cornflakes. Or eagles.

:48:37. > :48:47.Stacy Lewis, with a great position here.

:48:48. > :49:06.I am sure she will make birdie from there.

:49:07. > :49:16.Oh, dear. This is one of the better rounds of golf today. It is blemish

:49:17. > :49:44.free. A strong one-two punch from Korea on

:49:45. > :49:56.this first day, with Inbee Park and Sei Young Kim. She is going well, at

:49:57. > :50:12.4-under par. Four players are tied at 4-under par. Inbee Park is in the

:50:13. > :50:15.clubhouse with a 66. But that young lady, Ariya Jutanugarn, could be

:50:16. > :50:32.overtaking her with the closing holes, from Thailand.

:50:33. > :50:42.Lydia Ko, of course, with that eagle, just to kick-start her round,

:50:43. > :50:49.coming in on the back nine. She also birdied on the 12, one of the really

:50:50. > :50:58.tough par fours. But nothing much happened for her on the front nine.

:50:59. > :51:00.She birdied ten and 11, par on 12, bogey on 13, par 14 and that eagle

:51:01. > :51:43.on 15. Oh, no, she said, please! Now Stacy

:51:44. > :52:24.Lewis. It is a lovely collection of

:52:25. > :52:28.finishing holes. Short par-4, short par-3, par-5. If you haven't had a

:52:29. > :52:34.great round of golf, and Stacy Lewis probably feels she hasn't, you get a

:52:35. > :52:36.chance in the last three holes to salvage something out of your round.

:52:37. > :53:26.Absolutely. There is one of the media villages

:53:27. > :53:30.to the left. If you look closely, you can probably see Alan Wilkins'

:53:31. > :54:03.Penthouse! The best of the day is 66 in the

:54:04. > :54:11.clubhouse, by Inbee Park. But Ariya Jutanugarn, the 20-year-old from

:54:12. > :54:18.Thailand, is currently 6-over par. Winner of the British Open this

:54:19. > :54:21.year. She had that remarkable sequence where she won three

:54:22. > :54:45.tournaments, back-to-back on the LPGA. Then went on to win a major.

:54:46. > :55:03.Yes, it is a young woman's game now, golf. There is Ariya Jutanugarn,

:55:04. > :55:04.just biding her time at the 17th. 20 years of age, you have so much golf

:55:05. > :56:02.ahead of you. DAN WALKER: while we are watching

:56:03. > :56:05.the closing stages of the first round of the Gulf, just to let you

:56:06. > :56:09.know something else you can find on the Red Button right now, whether

:56:10. > :56:13.you have Freeview, satellite or cable, it is available on all the

:56:14. > :56:17.Red Button streams. That is the second men's semifinal in the

:56:18. > :56:22.football. Earlier, we saw Brazil beating Honduras 6-0. This is

:56:23. > :56:28.Nigeria taking on Germany, who won the World Cup here a few years ago,

:56:29. > :56:31.memorably. We will pick that up once the golf has finished, and we will

:56:32. > :56:35.bring you up-to-date with any of the act in unison that semifinal. But if

:56:36. > :56:40.you would like to watch it from the start, they are in the middle of the

:56:41. > :56:45.anthems at the moment, press red on whatever TV you are watching, and

:56:46. > :56:47.you can find it, or via the website and the BBC Sport app. But we are

:56:48. > :57:18.going to stay with the golf. I think she has asked to have a ball

:57:19. > :57:19.marked, because it is directly in line with Charley Hull's intended

:57:20. > :57:50.shot. It is right to left, mostly. That is

:57:51. > :58:06.where she is ending, for those two flagpoles. And she has got her lob

:58:07. > :58:11.wedge, which is possibly 60 degrees. She has got so much energy! The

:58:12. > :58:20.caddy is telling her, slowdown, Charley. Pretty good shot. The

:58:21. > :58:36.ebullience of youth. I'm afraid that is not threatening

:58:37. > :59:08.the hole at all. Here on the 16th, a short par-4. It

:59:09. > :59:16.has slowed down a bit. This group teed off at 11.05, local time. It is

:59:17. > :59:18.now four o'clock. It has taken them for hours and 51 minutes to get

:59:19. > :59:48.here, with still two holes to play. Another opportunity for a birdie

:59:49. > :59:50.four Lydia Ko, to get into 3-under. She has made a fine comeback from

:59:51. > :00:16.being 2-over. Jutanugarn. That is the safe place

:00:17. > :00:30.for it, isn't it? A roller-coaster green. Where is finishes up can be

:00:31. > :00:36.somewhere quite different. Stacy Lewis, who did aim at the pin.

:00:37. > :00:40.Magnificent shot. I think probably about the best we've seen today.

:00:41. > :00:58.Three or four feet from the hole. Is a big, full shoulder turn. Stand

:00:59. > :01:02.behind the ball. Didn't try to put anything on that shot, just took

:01:03. > :01:09.dead aim and hit it straight at the pin. Here we are on 18. We were at

:01:10. > :01:33.17. Didn't put too much right to left on

:01:34. > :01:46.that, and there we are, right in the middle of the green. All of these

:01:47. > :01:59.Korean golfers with typically superb swings, they come off that Korean

:02:00. > :02:05.production line. Extraordinary. It would be a surprise if we don't see

:02:06. > :02:11.at least one Korean on the victory podium at the end of this 72 hole

:02:12. > :02:24.tournament. We might see three! Charley Hull has got other ideas.

:02:25. > :02:30.Here on the 17th, the par-3. So, she is lurking as well, at 3-under.

:02:31. > :02:38.Anything in the 60s today and you are well and truly in the frame. And

:02:39. > :02:58.there were a lot of scores in the 60s.

:02:59. > :03:09.It has got to work. Was always going to be right-to-left from Charley

:03:10. > :03:21.Hull, but that looks like a safe par.

:03:22. > :03:36.Now Lydia Ko contemplating this sturdy putt that she has, to get to

:03:37. > :03:43.3-under. She had bogeys on the third and 4th hole, so she was 2-over

:03:44. > :03:51.after four holes. Since then, she has played the rest of the course to

:03:52. > :03:57.this point four under the card. Aided substantially by that eagle on

:03:58. > :04:05.a par which she holed out from 130 metres. On a very tough par for

:04:06. > :04:11.hole, one of the toughest on the course.

:04:12. > :04:29.So, she is 3-under on this back nine. 1-over on the front nine. It

:04:30. > :04:34.looked good for most of its journey, but then just drifted to the right,

:04:35. > :04:46.so she will have to settle for par on the 16th.

:04:47. > :04:53.For birdie on the 17th green. With Lydia Ko as well, I think she will

:04:54. > :04:59.feel she has left a view putts out there and she will feel she has

:05:00. > :05:04.battled hard, worked hard. Yes, I think she most certainly would have

:05:05. > :05:14.settled for a 69 after she walked off the fourth green, knowing what

:05:15. > :05:17.was ahead of her. So many of the golfers really did cash in on

:05:18. > :05:22.perfect conditions this morning and there were a cluster of four under

:05:23. > :05:35.par 31s on the front nine, nobody getting anywhere near that on the

:05:36. > :05:44.back nine. Although having said that, Jutanugarn is 3-under at the

:05:45. > :05:54.moment on the back nine. This for birdie, on 17. Gave it a good rub.

:05:55. > :05:56.From everyone -- everyone from there has gone left. It has hardly moved

:05:57. > :06:00.at all. In the drop zone here on 18, Sandra

:06:01. > :06:28.Gal. Now, Stacy Lewis, coming off a

:06:29. > :06:32.birdie on the previous hole. Thank God her back to even par and now she

:06:33. > :07:00.can get herself into the green figures.

:07:01. > :07:15.Just another look of bewilderment, as the putt just slides by. In

:07:16. > :07:21.her body nice and still as she executed the shot, exactly where she

:07:22. > :07:25.wanted about it, just a stupid underneath the hole. Gives herself a

:07:26. > :07:39.great chance for birdie. A little bit of work here, I don't

:07:40. > :07:44.imagine that will cause too many problems for her par. Keeping

:07:45. > :08:02.herself at the top of the leaderboard, on 6-under.

:08:03. > :08:24.Third shot here. She will have that for birdie as well.

:08:25. > :08:33.Well, this should just be a tap in for Stacy Lewis of the United

:08:34. > :08:39.States. She is level par. She will be looking to just finish off with

:08:40. > :08:50.birdie at the last. Just been hanging on for most of the round. Up

:08:51. > :08:56.ahead on 18, Sandra Gal of Germany. This for a birdie at the last. She

:08:57. > :09:06.got a free drop back on 18, it must have gone into one of the stands or

:09:07. > :09:08.buildings down on the 18th airway. But she is unable to finish the

:09:09. > :09:18.birdie. Jason Hamilton, the caddy, wants a

:09:19. > :10:14.good nine. Changing her angle of attack here,

:10:15. > :10:58.at this pin. Bang on line. A 9-iron there, for

:10:59. > :11:04.video. Now on 18, but leading the tournament is Ariya Jutanugarn from

:11:05. > :11:07.Thailand. She's just had the most marvellous view months in women's

:11:08. > :11:23.golf. A little right to left on it. She

:11:24. > :11:30.doesn't have a driver, as we've mentioned. She only ever uses a

:11:31. > :11:37.driver or a 3-wood off the tee, but she is 13th on the Tour average.

:11:38. > :11:45.Charley Hull, of Great Britain, 17th, 3-under. That looks good.

:11:46. > :11:52.Yes, pin high. Just following Stacy Lewis's shot almost to the blade of

:11:53. > :12:18.grass. Now, Young. Oh! Anna Nordqvist, on this 17th tee.

:12:19. > :12:32.That is very nice. Anna Nordqvist will be the closest to the hole. Up

:12:33. > :12:39.ahead on the 18th, Minjee Lee to get it to two under. Yes, nice way to

:12:40. > :12:49.finish. A round of 69 for the 20-year-old from west Australia.

:12:50. > :13:34.Further up the 18th green, to the 18th green, Sandra Graf. Completing

:13:35. > :13:44.her round with a putt for par, to finish at even par. A round of 71

:13:45. > :13:54.today for Germany's Sandra Gal. Lydia Ko, first away here on 17. A

:13:55. > :14:03.period in the middle of the round where she sank three good putts to

:14:04. > :14:15.get her to turn around and around. Since then, a couple of putts that

:14:16. > :14:16.have just trickled past the hole. Number one in putting on the LPGA

:14:17. > :14:55.Tour. Little finger ritual that a lot of

:14:56. > :15:05.golfers are using these days to help them read the line. I think Adam

:15:06. > :15:11.Scott might have started it, didn't he? I think he might have done,

:15:12. > :15:13.actually. You know what happens in golf, somebody can start something

:15:14. > :15:51.and it quickly catches on. Lydia Ko for Berdych and I think

:15:52. > :16:04.she's pushed that way wide. Yes, over-red that.

:16:05. > :16:33.That is very good. Hopefully she can finish with birdie. Now, Nordqvist

:16:34. > :16:43.help -- hoping to make birdie on 17. They've been on the course, five

:16:44. > :16:59.hours and seven minutes. The first group got round in four hours 30.

:17:00. > :17:17.The 17th, we've not had a batch of birdies on 17. There has been a

:17:18. > :17:23.handful 18 at most. It has been three birdies all day on 17. It has

:17:24. > :17:55.been great, well done. Probably more on 18. Back in the fairway.

:17:56. > :18:23.Eight birdies today and just two police to leave her at 6-under. She

:18:24. > :18:37.is hoping to get her ninth birdie here today. On the par-5 finishing.

:18:38. > :18:43.Charley Hull trying to get 4-under. Not to be, she will remain at

:18:44. > :18:56.3-under. Three behind the leader, in the Park. A very popular collection

:18:57. > :19:07.area today, the area below the green. And that is the danger if you

:19:08. > :19:11.don't get it up, the problem is there is a little green, not much

:19:12. > :19:15.going to work with considering how fast they are, you don't want to

:19:16. > :19:22.land it to file onto the green, it will just take off. -- to land it

:19:23. > :19:35.too far. To get it across you run the risk of what just happened.

:19:36. > :19:45.Unfortunately it is her sixth and she is 1-under par and she has

:19:46. > :19:53.battled to keep the score card under par. She has to hurry up. Gosh, she

:19:54. > :20:01.has a chance of a double bogey, maybe. She changed clubs, did not go

:20:02. > :20:04.with the wedge again after the rollback, going with the pottery is

:20:05. > :20:17.what most golfers have done here today. -- with the. -- putter. The

:20:18. > :20:28.so even. Behind them on 17, Lydia Ko did not get close with her birdie.

:20:29. > :20:37.It went far too wide. This a little dance, to close for comfort. Again

:20:38. > :20:39.just blowing down the left-hand side, the ball fell over the rim --

:20:40. > :20:57.going down. Irish girl is a big handball fan.

:20:58. > :21:04.Now this for seven at the last. This will spoil her evening for the first

:21:05. > :21:14.few hours for seven. Well done. That is really well done, staring at and

:21:15. > :21:17.it -- at an eight. Showing good in strength but the shake of dead tells

:21:18. > :21:23.you that is not the way to end the round.

:21:24. > :22:12.She finishes with the 72 and the caddy giving her some support.

:22:13. > :22:25.It is a little bit left on this one, isn't there? Passed some three feet.

:22:26. > :22:33.Maybe more than that. She has brought the caddy in for a second

:22:34. > :22:37.opinion. Aim for the centre of the hole and he said firmly. -- and hit

:22:38. > :23:01.it. Round of 74 from Tamminen from

:23:02. > :23:35.Finland on the opening day. Now, back down the fairway from this

:23:36. > :23:48.18th, measuring just over 500 jobs today. 500 yards. Two to six metres.

:23:49. > :23:58.-- 226 metres. She briefly thinks she can get close to it, this is a

:23:59. > :24:06.3-wood. This is probably her 2-iron. Look at it run and run. Someone

:24:07. > :24:40.obviously is not watching the golf. She birdied the tenth, and it has

:24:41. > :24:50.been pars all the way through to the 18th. Down in that popular area

:24:51. > :24:53.where lots of balls have landed. No one has quite been there, just short

:24:54. > :24:57.on the left, they normally rolled down on the right, so she has plenty

:24:58. > :25:08.of green to work with. That is all right. She had the very good driver

:25:09. > :25:11.and 15 where she got past the bunker, shall she is working on

:25:12. > :25:24.extra length off the tee. The driver she has. Surely she needs all the

:25:25. > :25:25.yardage she can get. Certainly on the green flag has died down a

:25:26. > :25:45.little. That route -- little right-to-left

:25:46. > :25:50.that the court has been working on just to give her somewhat options of

:25:51. > :26:01.the tee and add some yards to her distance as well. Stacy Lewis,

:26:02. > :26:09.assuming this is her third. Here we are, she will finish with birdie, I

:26:10. > :26:21.am sure. And get herself under par. Charley Hull will be thinking only

:26:22. > :26:22.four here. She will give it a rip. Cell phone ringing or something has

:26:23. > :26:51.disturbed her. And the last tee shot on 18 today

:26:52. > :26:58.coming from Anna Nordqvist from Norway.

:26:59. > :27:28.Birdie to get her to even par for the round.

:27:29. > :27:47.Just down. Down on the fairway, further down, is Jutanugarn. She is

:27:48. > :27:54.just about pin high under the stands, another camera view of the

:27:55. > :27:59.tight 20-year-old. It was a clear view all the way to the pin. One

:28:00. > :28:02.thing people will have to do is keep still because Bush shadows are

:28:03. > :28:05.lengthening and everything such the move and it will go across the ball.

:28:06. > :28:19.She should get this close. She is the leader at 6-under par,

:28:20. > :28:28.she leads from in the park who is in the clubhouse with 66 much earlier

:28:29. > :28:35.in the day. She once the effect microphone moved from the left. 20

:28:36. > :28:40.of green to work with. Just waiting for one of her playing partners to

:28:41. > :28:51.play up I think. No, she is ready to go.

:28:52. > :29:03.That has checked very quickly. They all get spin of this turf. They know

:29:04. > :29:12.they will get spin, so that is a little error from Jutanugarn. Should

:29:13. > :29:26.have been thrown right up to the pin.

:29:27. > :29:42.Her playing partner. Down in the little value or swell, she is off

:29:43. > :29:47.the side of that slope, so she has a view of the pin and can see the

:29:48. > :29:56.bottom of the flag. Just wants to halt this on and get a run up. --

:29:57. > :30:01.Hopp. It is a nice shot. And in good shape for her format. Nicely played.

:30:02. > :30:14.Hasn't she played well? That will get her to 5-under, one of the lead.

:30:15. > :30:19.She just missed it. It will be career at one and two, although Kim

:30:20. > :30:30.will probably be in a share of the lead. The Taliban, sorry. --

:30:31. > :30:37.Jutanugarn, sorry. Then the Koreans snapping at her heels.

:30:38. > :30:51.So, a very strong Asian look about the top of the leaderboard. Taipei,

:30:52. > :30:53.Korea, Thailand. The leading American player is Lexi Thompson,

:30:54. > :30:59.with that 68. Ariya Jutanugarn at the last, here.

:31:00. > :31:34.This for a 64. A very, very good round of golf and

:31:35. > :31:48.that included a double bogey on the fourth. So that is a 65,... Out in

:31:49. > :31:56.31, home in 34. 2-under for the back nine and four under for the front

:31:57. > :32:11.nine. This full Stacy Lewis to knock in for a 70, one under par.

:32:12. > :32:27.1-over. And she makes her four here on 18. A birdie to finish with the

:32:28. > :32:35.Stacy Lewis. Finishes one under par, with the 70.

:32:36. > :32:40.Tied for 19th place at the moment. There are at the moment 25 players

:32:41. > :32:57.under par. Now Kim, for a share of second place if

:32:58. > :33:04.she can make this. Birdied the tenth and it has been passed all the way

:33:05. > :33:19.home. She is hoping it will be eight pars and a birdie. It should be.

:33:20. > :33:33.Well done. Well done. Blemish free round and that is a big smile and a

:33:34. > :33:36.round of 66. And that is tied for second with Inbee Park.

:33:37. > :33:44.Like most of the golfers in the top six or seven position at the top of

:33:45. > :33:53.the leaderboard, she went out in 31 as well and came home in 35. So

:33:54. > :33:59.there we are. 66, as we look down over the city and this wonderful new

:34:00. > :34:05.golf course, which has only just been opened. The same venue, the

:34:06. > :34:12.same 18 holes, the same configurations that was used for the

:34:13. > :34:20.men's Championship last week. Now the last group out on the course

:34:21. > :34:28.making their way up 18. Anna Nordqvist will be the first away.

:34:29. > :34:32.We've just seen a view more birdies in the last half-hour and I'm sure

:34:33. > :34:38.it's because the wind has dropped and these players are just getting a

:34:39. > :34:42.bit closer to the greens with their seconds and finding it easier to

:34:43. > :34:48.make birdies from short up and downs. She finds herself 1-over par.

:34:49. > :35:19.She was 3-under at one stage. Back into the breeze, 93. So, a good

:35:20. > :35:27.three quarters... Yeah, but, it comes in. You're probably looking at

:35:28. > :35:31.that gap in the buildings there, you see that? A yard and a half, two

:35:32. > :35:44.yards from the right. The gap between the two television

:35:45. > :35:46.towers is where Anna Nordqvist's caddy is suggesting she start the

:35:47. > :35:57.shot. It wasn't a spectator, but a bird,

:35:58. > :36:23.that bothered her there. Beautiful. You see the way she

:36:24. > :36:29.clipped that shot and got the juice on the ball and just opted dead.

:36:30. > :36:32.Lovely, wasn't it? She uses the interlocking grip as well, Anna

:36:33. > :36:42.Nordqvist. Fully committed to the shot. Virtually a full shot from

:36:43. > :36:50.her. So, she's going to have a birdie putt at the last. Now, Lydia

:36:51. > :36:54.Ko. This is the club which makes a lot of birdies for her on par-5s.

:36:55. > :37:11.She doesn't often get to the greens in two.

:37:12. > :37:14.He doesn't have the same much to Lydia, she knows the drill with this

:37:15. > :37:45.shot. No spin. It had a very different

:37:46. > :37:50.sound from the shot for a few moments ago. But a very makeable

:37:51. > :37:55.shot for Lydia Ko, which would give her a round of 68 at the moment. She

:37:56. > :38:04.is two under the card. She has had a very good back nine.

:38:05. > :38:19.Out in 36. Two birdies, an eagle and a bogey. So she is 3-under for the

:38:20. > :38:21.back nine. Not sure whether there has been a better score than that on

:38:22. > :38:42.the back nine. Jutanugarn, possibly. Now, this is Charley Hull, Britain's

:38:43. > :38:49.Charley Hull. Catriona Matthew there, 71 earlier today, the other

:38:50. > :38:55.British player in this Olympic's women's individual stroke play

:38:56. > :39:03.event. This is nearly the same shot as a few moments ago. It has got to

:39:04. > :39:23.hurry. Got to hurry, a little bit more, a little bit more. That is OK.

:39:24. > :39:42.Just clearing the fringe and letting it roll down to the pin.

:39:43. > :39:49.Charley Hull, just the one bogey today for Charley Hull. She birdied

:39:50. > :39:55.the tenth and it has been a string paths all way home. But it's going

:39:56. > :40:01.to be Lydia Ko, I think, to putt here first at the last. That's what

:40:02. > :40:16.we're being told and yes, she is lining up her putt.

:40:17. > :40:23.Well, they've now taken five and a half hours... Five and a half hours

:40:24. > :40:25.for their round of golf, and it is a three ball. That's a long time out

:40:26. > :40:48.on the golf course. Five and a half hours, and it has

:40:49. > :40:58.been a back nine full of concentration for Lydia Ko. She has

:40:59. > :41:09.improved her status, of course. Pretty straightforward putt. Might

:41:10. > :41:20.be a little bit left-to-right. Birdie finish... No, it's not. That

:41:21. > :41:24.has been a Jamelia site today for Lydia, who putts just matching the

:41:25. > :41:34.hole but not going in but anyway she will finish with a 2-under par 69.

:41:35. > :41:36.Just veered off at the very last part of its journey, with inches to

:41:37. > :41:49.go. Just as it lost its pace. Yes. Charley Hull from Great Britain has

:41:50. > :41:56.this for birdie and for a round of 67, to finish for under par for the

:41:57. > :42:11.opening day. Of the Olympic women's individual stroke play. Just pulled

:42:12. > :42:15.that. That is a sad way for Charley Hull to finish around today, because

:42:16. > :42:22.nine times out of ten I'm sure she would expect to make that. Nothing

:42:23. > :42:30.in that putt, but she will have to settle for par as well. And a round

:42:31. > :42:38.of 68. Plenty to look back upon for Charley Hull, there. Just the one

:42:39. > :42:42.bogey all day and it is a really good, tenacious round of golf from

:42:43. > :42:53.the young lady from Kettering, Northamptonshire. Middle England!

:42:54. > :42:58.Lovely, aggressive way she plays golf. Anna Nordqvist at the last was

:42:59. > :42:59.at one stage 3-under. She has found life a little bit difficult on the

:43:00. > :43:27.back nine. Yes, it's been a day where Anna

:43:28. > :43:37.Nordqvist had a lot of opportunities, but she finishes with

:43:38. > :43:46.a 71. Now Lydia just cleaning up here for her par in her round of 69.

:43:47. > :44:00.Out in 36, but a lot better on the back nine. Finishing with a par. The

:44:01. > :44:12.back nine of 33, 36, so a 69. She holed out for an eagle on a 400 yard

:44:13. > :44:17.par-4. A wonderful eagle on 15. So, Lydia Ko, South Korean born but very

:44:18. > :44:23.much a naturalised New Zealander, walks off with a 69, the world

:44:24. > :44:28.number one. But a thrilling day's golf, a bit on the long side coming

:44:29. > :44:33.home, that last couple of rounds taking fight and a half hours. But

:44:34. > :44:35.it is Ariya Jutanugarn with a 65 who leads the Olympic women's individual

:44:36. > :44:55.stroke play with a 65. 66, -- Inbee Park of South Korea.

:44:56. > :45:02.Azahara Munoz, 68. Lexi Thompson, 68.

:45:03. > :45:10.So there you have it. The first round of the women's golf has been

:45:11. > :45:15.completed. Five and a half hours for three players on a three ball is a

:45:16. > :45:19.staggeringly long time but they have finished and we have taken the right

:45:20. > :45:22.the way through on BBC Four. Catriona Matthew the other

:45:23. > :45:28.representative of Team GB, six off the lead, and even par 71 for her

:45:29. > :45:32.today. Charley Hull, three off the lead. Talking about the quality of

:45:33. > :45:37.this competition, I know some of the big names on the men's side of the

:45:38. > :45:40.draw weren't there, but nine of the world's top ten women golfers are at

:45:41. > :45:45.the Olympics and the world another one is in with a shout, Inbee Park

:45:46. > :45:49.up there as well. We should bring you up to date with the golf

:45:50. > :46:00.throughout the next few days as well, which can bleeds on Saturday.

:46:01. > :46:10.Dining, I think it is time for some headlines. -- the sun is shining. In

:46:11. > :46:14.the men's football, Brazil beat Honduras 6-0 in the semifinals and

:46:15. > :46:18.they go into Saturday's gold-medal match. They will play Nigeria or

:46:19. > :46:27.Germany, we'll bring you the entire second half of that game in a few

:46:28. > :46:32.moments time. It hasn't been a great games for Team GB's boxers. Today

:46:33. > :46:37.Savannah Marshall lost a quarterfinal against her nemesis.

:46:38. > :46:48.Only Nicola Adams and Joe Joyce remain. Rajiv Ouseph who we followed

:46:49. > :46:52.for a few days on BBC Four in the men's singles badminton has gone out

:46:53. > :47:00.of the quarterfinal stage, he lost to Denmark's fourth seed of Victor

:47:01. > :47:03.axles. The Olympic silver medallist Hazlitt made the last four of the

:47:04. > :47:07.men's basketball, constantly, Spain beating France earlier Australia

:47:08. > :47:15.also made it through to the last four. We told you about Charley Hull

:47:16. > :47:20.doing particularly well in the Gulf, a steady start. She is the real

:47:21. > :47:27.under par and three off the lead after the first round after missing

:47:28. > :47:30.the tiny birdie at the 18th. We have plenty of football coming up tonight

:47:31. > :47:33.and we'll bring you the second half of Nigeria against Germany and

:47:34. > :47:39.up-to-date with the BMX. At this time of night we like the look onto

:47:40. > :47:43.the beautiful beach and there is often some entertainment for us and

:47:44. > :47:47.a few moments ago, sadly we cannot give you this life, we saw this

:47:48. > :47:53.fellow, because they doing the business with two footballs. This is

:47:54. > :47:57.part one, running around and we have checked, that ball is not stuck to

:47:58. > :48:02.his head. It is genuinely balancing and not only can he do that, he can

:48:03. > :48:10.also do this. The double ball chuckle. I'm not sure that is what

:48:11. > :48:14.they call it. When he's finished with that, this is the end of the

:48:15. > :48:19.trip. I don't recommend this to anyone at home but he's obviously

:48:20. > :48:25.well-trained and knows what he is doing. Write the top of the lamp

:48:26. > :48:29.post and the ball never moves. Hello. Dancing away, excellent hip

:48:30. > :48:35.action. Len Goodman would love the hat. That sets us up for the

:48:36. > :48:38.football, we'll bring you the second half of that shortly foot up I think

:48:39. > :48:42.Germany are leading but usually the action from the first half before we

:48:43. > :48:46.go into the second half. Kevin Gill buys part of our commentary team and

:48:47. > :48:54.we'll bring you up-to-date with the BMX because that started today at

:48:55. > :48:59.around 1230 mile that way. We'll tell you about the Team GB runners

:49:00. > :49:05.shortly but let's explain how this works. Today is the seeding run.

:49:06. > :49:17.Other than me tell you, here is our BBC BMX guide.

:49:18. > :49:23.Bicycle motocross or BMX as it is commonly known is one of the newest

:49:24. > :49:30.Olympic sports, making its debut in Beijing in 2008. Competition is held

:49:31. > :49:34.on a circuit between 350 and 400 metres with races lasting

:49:35. > :49:39.approximately 40 seconds. Providers start on an eight metre high ramp

:49:40. > :49:42.and once the race is underway they go through jumps, banked corners and

:49:43. > :49:48.other obstacles before reaching the finish line. In BMX collisions

:49:49. > :49:52.happen regularly, so it is crucial to try and avoid other riders during

:49:53. > :49:57.the race. The best way to do this is make a quick start and lead going

:49:58. > :50:00.into the first turn. The leader normally controlled the race but the

:50:01. > :50:07.rest of the competitors chase and work hard to catch up. Because a BMX

:50:08. > :50:11.track features numerous bumps and jobs there are key steals riders

:50:12. > :50:15.need to master including being able to manual, when the wider lifts the

:50:16. > :50:20.front wheel to move faster over rolling sections of the course and

:50:21. > :50:24.up the face of jumps. Pumping is worldwide creates speed through the

:50:25. > :50:29.rhythmical of body weight by pumping the arms and legs are used as shock

:50:30. > :50:32.absorbers and as methods of producing power and speed. Riders

:50:33. > :50:36.moved their body weight from the front to the back of the bike

:50:37. > :50:40.without pedalling. Both the men's and women's finals are one up races

:50:41. > :50:47.so whoever crosses first is crowned Olympic champion. We'll show you the

:50:48. > :50:51.action shortly but beautifully described by Jill topless and it's

:50:52. > :50:55.much more difficult than it looks as I find out before the games, went to

:50:56. > :51:07.spend time with a real medal for Team GB, Liam Phillips, in

:51:08. > :51:10.Manchester. -- Jill Douglas. We are here to meet Liam Phillips one of

:51:11. > :51:12.the pick-up and rather than a straight chat we thought, let's make

:51:13. > :51:26.it more interesting. Let's do this. What is going on here? The big man

:51:27. > :51:33.has turned up. We like to see what I've got? .

:51:34. > :51:46.-- would you like to see. What do you think? Not bad. I'm not sure

:51:47. > :51:50.about Rio. Maybe Tokyo. Nobody at the Limerick has ever gone that fast

:51:51. > :51:57.with a two tone brogue on this track before, surely. Some kids just want

:51:58. > :52:00.it burgers and hang out well everywhere else is doing the serious

:52:01. > :52:09.business of being an athlete but you put every bit of the link -- bit of

:52:10. > :52:13.effort in. BMX athletes are the most powerful athletes on the planet in

:52:14. > :52:18.terms of cycling. Beat that, Wiggins. The first 2.5 seconds is

:52:19. > :52:24.the most important, we go from 0- 65 clunkers per hour over to a half

:52:25. > :52:27.thousand watts at over 200 rpm, the guys involved in cycling they think

:52:28. > :52:33.they're making those numbers up because they really are right at the

:52:34. > :52:43.top end of what is achievable. I've seen a few of those numbers in the

:52:44. > :52:46.home straight. Vig pedal now. I'm very much taking this all in my

:52:47. > :52:50.stride. What of the athletes we speak to, the one thing that

:52:51. > :52:54.concerns them is injury. You have that content with and also the fact

:52:55. > :53:00.your sport is a complete lottery. I've raced BMX for so long that I

:53:01. > :53:05.know it is part of parcel of the sport, I broke my collarbone here in

:53:06. > :53:09.December and for me it isn't the be all and end all, I said is just

:53:10. > :53:14.another broken collarbone but it will be as part of the sport. You

:53:15. > :53:19.always try and be incredibly laid-back and take everything thrown

:53:20. > :53:22.at you in your stride, how do you approach an Olympic year? Is easier

:53:23. > :53:27.said than done, I've said numerous times that for me it is just another

:53:28. > :53:33.year, but the difficulty with an Olympic year is that of the last

:53:34. > :53:38.race of the season and with the sport I do, obviously injuries are a

:53:39. > :53:42.big factor and I wanted to get to this stage and be able to go to Rio

:53:43. > :53:47.in one piece and that is something I wasn't able to do in London. Giminez

:53:48. > :53:52.is back and Liam Phillips is down! That taught me a lot about the

:53:53. > :53:58.Olympics and although I feel like I'm in a different place going into

:53:59. > :54:02.your mac, -- into Rio, I'm going there to win, if I perform well and

:54:03. > :54:09.enjoy what I'm doing, and tried my bike like I know I can, then I

:54:10. > :54:13.should be successful. No one has ever been on that track appear of

:54:14. > :54:17.course before, I was happy to break that record and the good news is

:54:18. > :54:20.Liam and the rest of the riders are a lot better than I will ever be. We

:54:21. > :54:25.will now see the seeding run. This is where Liam and Kyle Evans of the

:54:26. > :54:29.GB will go and they're trying to go across the track on their own and

:54:30. > :54:31.trying to get themselves a seeding for the elimination round which

:54:32. > :54:36.follows before they can proceed through the rounds to eventually get

:54:37. > :54:43.to the final where they can win the medals. We'll pick this up with Kyle

:54:44. > :54:48.Evans of key Team GB. He was Kyle Evans from Wigan, reserved for years

:54:49. > :54:52.ago for the London Olympic Games. Best result we seen from him earlier

:54:53. > :54:58.this year, second in Manchester in the Supercross, that was a real

:54:59. > :55:02.breakthrough on the world stage. To get two Brits on the accordion was

:55:03. > :55:14.fantastic. Let's see if he can do the job here.

:55:15. > :55:20.Kyle Evans missed out on top 16 finish in the time trial by less

:55:21. > :55:27.than half a second at the World Championship. It is a great start,

:55:28. > :55:29.he's in second place. Looking super smooth so far. Aggressive, positive

:55:30. > :55:40.and in control just now. This is where you can either gain it

:55:41. > :55:46.or lose it, looking relatively smooth. Just slipping down the

:55:47. > :55:53.placings are little in the closing stages. Over the line and the time

:55:54. > :56:00.of 35.776 four Kyle Evans of Great Britain. The first of the two

:56:01. > :56:06.British riders here in the BMX. Marat Stromberg against the starters

:56:07. > :56:09.get. The Olympic champion in the last two games in Beijing and

:56:10. > :56:15.London. Two-time world champion and three-time European champion, and a

:56:16. > :56:22.winner this year. Still going strong after all this time. Big, powerful

:56:23. > :56:27.athletes, this could be a track that suits him. We're about to find out

:56:28. > :56:29.in his first appearance on the track this week for Stromberg, the

:56:30. > :56:43.defending champion. Riders ready, watch the gate.

:56:44. > :56:49.Stromberg is underway. Third place, solid start. He has lost some time

:56:50. > :57:07.here at the tenth. Stromberg is not taking any chances

:57:08. > :57:10.in this seeding run. Up to fifth at the last time check, now up to

:57:11. > :57:16.third, he has got better the longer it has gone on, nice and steady and

:57:17. > :57:20.has got faster and faster, up to third place, you won't be too

:57:21. > :57:23.unhappy with that. That was a decent performance, if he improved on his

:57:24. > :57:30.start he would get a better snap at the gate and a clear first straight,

:57:31. > :57:34.but that was a reasonable ride. On this first day of competition they

:57:35. > :57:41.just do a seeding run, that is it. The man back for the quarters

:57:42. > :57:46.tomorrow -- the men are back. The women are straight to the semifinals

:57:47. > :57:53.on Friday. Semifinals for men and women on Friday. Davy McGrath from

:57:54. > :58:03.Switzerland. Did well in the World Championship.

:58:04. > :58:11.Bronze last year to at the European games. He overshot that by a mile.

:58:12. > :58:21.It will cost him. Still in fifth. He is in the mix. Very smooth at this

:58:22. > :58:27.stage. Fourth. It has been a good run from graph. He looks to keep it

:58:28. > :58:34.going through the final time check up the second. Connor fields' time

:58:35. > :58:40.could be put under some real pressure. He is now the fastest

:58:41. > :58:44.rider, graft of Switzerland takes over the top of the leaderboard from

:58:45. > :58:50.Connor the American rider, by less than a tenth of a second.

:58:51. > :58:58.Sam Willoughby from Australia. Two-time world champion, Olympic

:58:59. > :59:01.silver medallist, four years ago, but rider dealing with some injury

:59:02. > :59:07.problems. He has injury problems, work from the text is he's looking

:59:08. > :59:15.nervous, let's see how he deals with this.

:59:16. > :59:24.He is one of the big names. Perhaps we'll get some indication of a Fee

:59:25. > :59:28.he has injury issues holding him back with the things he's to deal

:59:29. > :59:32.with. He was a little off-balance and the first turn. Seems to have

:59:33. > :59:36.got away with it. Just about in the top half dozen at the moment and at

:59:37. > :59:44.the fourth. At the second time check. This will be crucial, this

:59:45. > :59:48.straight, can he make up sometime? Around the final turn and into the

:59:49. > :59:51.finishing straight coming is a new leader, can you maintain it and

:59:52. > :59:57.carry the speed over the line? Not quite. But it is a good run from Sam

:59:58. > :00:03.Willoughby, 34.714 for the Australian. Here is the two-time and

:00:04. > :00:20.current world champion. Daudet from France won the World

:00:21. > :00:28.Championship in Colombia at the end of May. He was knocked out in the

:00:29. > :00:44.semifinals four years ago. He was superb in those World

:00:45. > :00:50.Championships, Daudet, so superb and fluid and fast. Great start and he's

:00:51. > :00:55.into the lead. He's a real technician. Look how smooth he is.

:00:56. > :01:03.This is super stuff so far from Daudet,. Just fractions of a second

:01:04. > :01:08.in that. So far he's looking every inch the world champion. Fastest in

:01:09. > :01:12.the final time checked before the finishing line and over the line in

:01:13. > :01:21.the new fastest time, great start for the new world champion. That was

:01:22. > :01:29.impressive stuff. So smooth. Liam Phillips of Great Britain here in

:01:30. > :01:34.Rio, on a glorious sunny afternoon. Needs a strong start, Liam Phillips.

:01:35. > :01:39.Coming back from injury, which won't have helped his preparations. It has

:01:40. > :01:44.not been the ideal run-in to the Games. A shame about that injury

:01:45. > :01:47.five or six months ago but great how he has come back. Winner of the

:01:48. > :02:00.season-long World Cup competition. Here we go then, Liam Phillips under

:02:01. > :02:08.way. 34.617 seconds is the time to beat, set by the world champion. How

:02:09. > :02:19.has he started? He is into fourth place, certainly in the mix here.

:02:20. > :02:24.This will be the crucial straight. Lost a bit of momentum, can he

:02:25. > :02:29.gained some of it back here through the rhythm section? Up into tenth

:02:30. > :02:33.place and now up towards the finishing line, trying to push that

:02:34. > :02:39.speed through the bike, and ninth quickest for Liam Phillips. Not a

:02:40. > :02:43.bad start, he was up to fourth place and definitely within striking

:02:44. > :02:46.distance of the leaders but that middle section just killed his run a

:02:47. > :02:51.bit. I think he will be disappointed with that one.

:02:52. > :02:57.We shall hear from Liam Phillips a bit later on. He was indeed

:02:58. > :03:02.disappointed with his tenth place finish, with Kyle Evans in 23rd.

:03:03. > :03:05.Over on BBC One you can see the semifinal in the women's hockey

:03:06. > :03:10.right now. Team GB have been brilliant in this tournament so far.

:03:11. > :03:14.They are taking on New Zealand. The whole of that match will be on BBC

:03:15. > :03:18.One. If they win that one, they go through to the Gold Medal match.

:03:19. > :03:23.These are the gold medallists from four years ago, can they go --

:03:24. > :03:29.silver medallists from four years ago, can they go one better and get

:03:30. > :03:34.into the Gold Medal match? -- bronze medallists from four years ago.

:03:35. > :03:43.We're going to take you live... That game is three minutes in. Got the

:03:44. > :03:47.clock the wrong way round! You can stay with us for some live football,

:03:48. > :03:51.Nigeria and Germany playing for the right to play Brazil, before we take

:03:52. > :04:01.you to Alister McDermott Kevin Kilbane, here they are describing

:04:02. > :04:02.some of the first half action. -- Alistair Mann.

:04:03. > :04:08.COMMENTATOR: You know in Russia they will be a force to be reckoned with

:04:09. > :04:14.and they have got round the back and there is the goal already! An early

:04:15. > :04:18.goal in the first semifinal between Brazil and Honduras and another

:04:19. > :04:30.early goal today and again it's the favourites in front, Germany 1-0

:04:31. > :04:40.Nigeria. What a well worked goal. A brilliant cross from Serge Gnabry

:04:41. > :04:49.and he gets his head up, he knows where the striker is. Nobody picked

:04:50. > :05:04.up the run. We can now go live and Germany are

:05:05. > :05:09.still leading 1-0. COMMENTATOR: Yes, terrific shot from

:05:10. > :05:13.Serge Gnabry and a wonderful save, tipping it around the post. Germany

:05:14. > :05:19.know they need a second goal here, but that is as near as they have got

:05:20. > :05:30.in reality to getting that second goal. They have a corner, of course.

:05:31. > :05:35.Some pushing spotted by the referee. That said Gnabry chance was very

:05:36. > :05:40.similar to the chance he had had a minute or so earlier when it just

:05:41. > :05:44.opened up for him. That time he got the strike in early and tested

:05:45. > :05:54.Daniel out. Germany have started this second-half brighter, just like

:05:55. > :05:59.the first. Those who maybe have not seen the previous 48 minutes,

:06:00. > :06:03.Germany started superbly. They took an early lead through Klostermann

:06:04. > :06:10.and could easily have added to it in a very dominant opening 20 minutes

:06:11. > :06:17.or so. But the second part of the first half has been a lot more

:06:18. > :06:25.encouraging from the Nigerian side. They had a couple of good chances,

:06:26. > :06:30.one almost created by the goalkeeper when he knocked one foot to the

:06:31. > :06:35.other and almost presented it. Germany still look threatening and

:06:36. > :06:40.almost get a second! Just as I was saying how well Nigeria had played,

:06:41. > :06:47.they had always had that little edge of vulnerability about them and

:06:48. > :06:52.Germany try to expose them and they nearly did, there. He is nearly of

:06:53. > :06:58.site and what a fabulous run from Serge Gnabry. That is what we have

:06:59. > :07:01.seen from Germany throughout. If he occupies the two centre halves, he

:07:02. > :07:06.just needs that dynamic movement in behind and those players like Serge

:07:07. > :07:11.Gnabry, they have the ability to pick those passes out and his first

:07:12. > :07:16.touch just let him down. Once he goes round Daniel, he just couldn't

:07:17. > :07:21.quite get the strike away because he was trying to pull it back across

:07:22. > :07:27.goal. Happy to come out to the wings, and that is a deliberate

:07:28. > :07:36.backpass so that Daniel can gather it in. The first semifinal today was

:07:37. > :07:40.about as one-sided and has mismatched as you have probably seen

:07:41. > :07:55.in the latter stages of a competition. This semifinal has been

:07:56. > :07:58.anything but one-sided. From a neutral perspective, if Nigeria

:07:59. > :08:06.could grab the equaliser, it would be a very difficult match to call.

:08:07. > :08:12.So much to encourage Nigeria, but a warning sign just a minute ago. A

:08:13. > :08:18.chance for Serge Gnabry tiptoe round the post by Daniel and another

:08:19. > :08:25.chance which he couldn't quite wrap his foot around. The chairman coach

:08:26. > :08:44.knows that his side dirt possess the key required to unlock the Nigerian

:08:45. > :08:57.defence. Toljan's run came to a quick cult. Won back. This is better

:08:58. > :09:03.from Nigeria. Forward comes Ezekiel Kemboi and another good tackle by

:09:04. > :09:07.Ginter, who has probably been the most impressive defender for

:09:08. > :09:12.Germany. He has had to be, because they do leave themselves exposed. If

:09:13. > :09:17.they can break that first line of press with a good forward pass, you

:09:18. > :09:20.then create an overload. They've done it again there, Nigeria. Maybe

:09:21. > :09:27.just lacking when they have got into the final third, no pass, no strike.

:09:28. > :09:29.So often that has happened. That is the only thing lacking from

:09:30. > :09:37.Nigeria's play, because it has been good. Such is Germany's commitment

:09:38. > :09:43.forward, they leave themselves susceptible to the counter, but

:09:44. > :09:48.equally such is Germany's dexterity when they do get forward, they look

:09:49. > :09:52.like they can break down by Jiri. That's why we've got such an

:09:53. > :10:02.entertaining game on our hands, such a tight and hard-fought contest.

:10:03. > :10:03.Here is John Obi Mikel. Probably one of the very few that you would

:10:04. > :10:27.recognise in this Nigeria side. Just into much of a hurry to break

:10:28. > :10:31.Germany down, if they could have just been a bit more patient, maybe

:10:32. > :10:39.gone back and started all over again, they might have been able to

:10:40. > :10:46.build something. Can they win it back? That is the difficulty they

:10:47. > :10:49.have, Nigeria. As he spoke about in the first half, those two holding

:10:50. > :10:54.midfielders are so difficult to play through. If you get it wide, that is

:10:55. > :10:57.where the threat is Nigeria. And that is where Germany are

:10:58. > :11:01.vulnerable. Nigeria have so much pace. It's very unlikely Nigeria

:11:02. > :11:08.will break Germany down through the centre. They have to expose Germany

:11:09. > :11:12.around the outside, after the two fullbacks have gone up field to

:11:13. > :11:15.supplement the forwards. To be fair, when they get it right in an

:11:16. > :11:22.attacking sense, as they did in the eighth minute, those fullbacks can

:11:23. > :11:28.have a devastating role. Klostermann, the scorer, is the left

:11:29. > :11:38.back. And the right back gets forward with regularity.

:11:39. > :11:45.There is a real confidence and belief and a purpose about Nigeria.

:11:46. > :11:51.The coach has certainly said to his team, look, you may have been

:11:52. > :11:55.overawed at first by your opponents but there's no need to be any more.

:11:56. > :11:59.I think when they have tested Germany's defence, I think that has

:12:00. > :12:04.given them confidence as well. They know they have got pace to hurt

:12:05. > :12:08.Germany's defence. I think that is what the Nigerian coach has relayed

:12:09. > :12:14.to them at half-time, show a bit of confidence. They've certainly shown

:12:15. > :12:19.they are vulnerable defensively, as Germany are excellent in possession

:12:20. > :12:23.in tight areas, but they can be exposed, the Germans. That is what

:12:24. > :12:31.Nigerian need to continue doing, soak them up quickly and hit them on

:12:32. > :12:59.the break. Free kick for the foul on Lars Bender.

:13:00. > :13:06.Trying to find Toljan. Doesn't actually reach. Nigeria have

:13:07. > :13:14.certainly been the better side in the last five minutes or so, but

:13:15. > :13:21.they have overrun the ball there. That is a foul. Again Lars Bender on

:13:22. > :13:24.the end of a mistimed tackle. A port such on the breakaway for Nigeria,

:13:25. > :13:33.John Obi Mikel that time allowing the ball to get away from him. Once

:13:34. > :13:34.or twice the Nigerian midfielder don't shy away from tackles, do

:13:35. > :14:18.they? Good movement again. That is really

:14:19. > :14:25.good play from Nigeria. Just a glimmer of hope there that he might

:14:26. > :14:31.get beyond his defender, and Toljan will try to keep this in play and

:14:32. > :14:34.his athleticism gets into the ball, and they win a corner Jude to the

:14:35. > :14:39.determination of the right full-back. Well, the little dummy

:14:40. > :14:41.was for Max Meyer, he didn't mean to get on the end of it himself,

:14:42. > :15:04.Toljan. But it worked. The inswinger coming in from Brandt.

:15:05. > :15:08.My looking for the volley but doesn't quite connect. Serge Gnabry

:15:09. > :15:14.wants the return ball, it's going to come to him A he has driven it

:15:15. > :15:17.wide of the frame of the goal. Serge Gnabry came into this game having

:15:18. > :15:22.scored in every round that Germany have played, all three group matches

:15:23. > :15:26.in the quarterfinal. He stands on six goals for the tournament and

:15:27. > :15:34.maybe he should have number seven here. That is great awareness. Once

:15:35. > :15:39.Serge Gnabry gets into that position, he has to go for goal if

:15:40. > :15:43.he is taking the strike on. There were two options and he's got to put

:15:44. > :15:50.it across the face of the goal for a tap in.

:15:51. > :15:56.Poor play from the Gnabry at the end. There was only one way to avoid

:15:57. > :16:00.getting a rocket from his team-mates if he put the ball in the back of

:16:01. > :16:03.the net, he didn't and ended up getting plenty of ear-bashing from

:16:04. > :16:17.his colleagues. The Gnabry, nice exchange of passes.

:16:18. > :16:22.It just shows how fluid the system is that one of the defenders and

:16:23. > :16:29.midfielders can get forward and is often at the forward line. Max Meyer

:16:30. > :16:33.has the vision and awareness, he knows when players are running

:16:34. > :16:38.around him to pick them out at will. It is the fluidity in this system

:16:39. > :16:45.that leads to the change of Adebowale has filter back into it

:16:46. > :16:53.other's position after. -- change of position has the filter.

:16:54. > :17:04.A quick look at the what, maybe pondering a change. His substitute

:17:05. > :17:11.includes new Peterson, who scored five in the match against Fiji in

:17:12. > :17:17.the group stage. 21 goals last season. Help his team get promoted

:17:18. > :17:29.to the top division in the Bundesliga. Philipp Max is also in

:17:30. > :17:35.the substitutes. Scored in the game against Fiji. That was looking

:17:36. > :17:42.promising for a moment, but again, the touch alluding to Gnabry. Ill

:17:43. > :17:46.timed again. How exposed they are again, Nigeria, they will probably

:17:47. > :17:50.have to play this way little and send bodies forward, they themselves

:17:51. > :17:53.exposed offensively. They have enough pace to deal with it but it

:17:54. > :17:58.is more the movement that they cannot handle. A change in a

:17:59. > :17:59.position, which is where the jury have struggled to cope with the

:18:00. > :18:06.Germans. Building well. It went under the

:18:07. > :18:32.foot. A little clip from Bender to bring

:18:33. > :18:39.in Brunt. My around outside, but really well defended. Again, the

:18:40. > :18:45.clearance straight back to Germany. Here is Lars Bender, the attempt was

:18:46. > :18:52.good, the past not quite as good. You can leave yourself exposed. The

:18:53. > :18:57.column is extremely quick as getting back into position which is why he

:18:58. > :19:00.doesn't want to run into piles Comey wants the ball at his feet so he can

:19:01. > :19:07.pick out others to make runs around him.

:19:08. > :19:48.It will go all the way back to the keeper.

:19:49. > :20:07.Not a bad pass, breeding in Umar. Free to Nigeria. The movement from

:20:08. > :20:15.Sadiku -- Umar. The full-back getting forward. Umar cooled after

:20:16. > :20:20.the inside left channel, good ball played forward into him but Chris

:20:21. > :20:26.Yan opportunity now. -- creating an opportunity.

:20:27. > :20:37.Crista Cullen on the furthest point of the box. Waiting to time his run.

:20:38. > :20:44.McElwee seen to deliver. That McHale waiting.

:20:45. > :20:51.As always from this position it is about the quality of the delivery.

:20:52. > :20:55.Can he keep it far enough away from the keeper that someone can attack

:20:56. > :21:02.it? After all of that he went for something a bit unexpected and drag

:21:03. > :21:11.it into the side net. That is poor, big chance for Nigeria. He has gone

:21:12. > :21:15.from goal. Horne had it covered anyway, real good chance to put it

:21:16. > :21:21.into the area and put the German defence under pressure, poor

:21:22. > :21:29.execution and play from Mikael. The first change of the afternoon sees

:21:30. > :21:37.junior GIA coming on and said it whom are coming off -- and Umar.

:21:38. > :21:44.20-year-old who plays club football in Egypt. He is on the books of Roma

:21:45. > :22:11.in Syria that makes series a. He has just made one substitution

:22:12. > :22:13.appearance so far. Covering a little unexpected about him.

:22:14. > :22:26.-- something. There are a few pockets of German supporters in the

:22:27. > :22:28.crowd. There are more Nigerian supporters, but the vast majority

:22:29. > :22:35.are Brazilian and they are supporting Nigeria because Brazil

:22:36. > :22:41.await the gold medal final and they probably deep down would prefer to

:22:42. > :22:47.take on Nigeria then Germany. Despite the fact that Nigeria have

:22:48. > :22:53.played so well the night. For large parts of it anyway.

:22:54. > :23:04.That could have gone anywhere. But he gets away with it. This is the

:23:05. > :23:11.sort of time you are looking for your substrate and impact. --

:23:12. > :23:15.substitutes to make an impact for is a generally a lot into this game,

:23:16. > :23:21.one of those Nigerian substitutions, can they come on and make a serious

:23:22. > :23:24.impact? Think he just lost his footing on the turf, can Gnabry.

:23:25. > :23:37.Good refereeing. 25 minutes to go, still the early

:23:38. > :23:46.goal in the eighth minute from the full-back, Klostermann. Chances for

:23:47. > :23:55.both sides since. Neither can claim to have been in control of this game

:23:56. > :23:58.since both the 21st or 22nd minute. Certainly expected Germany when they

:23:59. > :24:02.scored to control the game much better than they have. They've

:24:03. > :24:09.struggled at times. They've created some opportunities because Nigeria

:24:10. > :24:14.have been vulnerable but it has been anything but controlled from

:24:15. > :24:23.Germany, they have been vulnerable defensively and left themselves

:24:24. > :24:24.exposed at times. It seems a lot will dynamism about Nigeria then

:24:25. > :24:35.Germany. Some think -- something we spoke

:24:36. > :24:38.about before the game was how close this game was, we thought it would

:24:39. > :24:49.be different from the Brazil Honduras game. Plenty of technicians

:24:50. > :24:56.in the German side, plenty of inventive players. Brandt looks for

:24:57. > :25:07.it, breaks for my again and clicked cleverly.

:25:08. > :25:24.Try to be too clever if anything. Germany win it back. Good tackling.

:25:25. > :25:28.Pretty good shape, held by Nigeria. I think it is just as the game has

:25:29. > :25:32.progressed it looked more disciplined and have been better

:25:33. > :25:36.defensively, sometimes you will do hand up, you cannot stop great

:25:37. > :25:39.movement around you and good interchange, play and passing. But

:25:40. > :25:44.when Germany have been in central areas and the brain -- game is

:25:45. > :25:49.slowed down, they had discipline and help their shape well. Let's hope

:25:50. > :25:50.they can capitalise on that and hurt Germany when they're out of

:25:51. > :26:03.position. Germany conceded five goals in their

:26:04. > :26:09.opening two games in the group stages. They've kept two clean

:26:10. > :26:17.sheets in a row and are now 69 minutes into keeping a third

:26:18. > :26:22.successive clean sheet. Nigeria kept a clean sheet in the quarterfinal

:26:23. > :26:25.when they beat Denmark 2-0. One in the group stages against Sweden but

:26:26. > :26:31.they conceded six in the other two matches. Four against Japan in quite

:26:32. > :26:41.an extraordinary opening match of the Olympic tournament. Nigeria

:26:42. > :26:44.ended up 5-4 winners. They've probably learned a lot about them

:26:45. > :26:45.that day. They can create going forward and they are vulnerable

:26:46. > :26:56.going backwards. Rhys Enoch today, spirits as well.

:26:57. > :27:00.But we have seen that. They've looked vulnerable defensively at

:27:01. > :27:10.times but when they do strike forward quickly and there is that

:27:11. > :27:18.belief they can cause problems. A foul. Crista Cullen is a current

:27:19. > :27:28.phone Nigerian international. Plays club football in Norway. Part of the

:27:29. > :27:29.youth setup at Le Mans Spears at Fulham and Spurs but never broke

:27:30. > :27:36.into the first team. Got up well and controlled the

:27:37. > :27:51.chest. Good ball from Bender. Threaded

:27:52. > :27:57.towards Brandt again, Bender tries to win the loose one. It was an

:27:58. > :28:03.illegal challenge on edge of the D and it will be a free kick to

:28:04. > :28:08.Nigeria. It comes to nothing again, they get in a positive position out

:28:09. > :28:13.wide, could max my have gone in with more conviction and taken the strike

:28:14. > :28:19.on? I think he is intending to take his first touch beyond the Nigerian

:28:20. > :28:28.defence, a big chance for him to get the strike away. Com did well and

:28:29. > :28:40.the strong defensively. Another change for Nigeria. One of those on

:28:41. > :28:50.a yellow card, the man just gone off.

:28:51. > :29:05.2- -- two alterations made. By the Nigerian head coach. Joe Root --

:29:06. > :29:11.Ajayi is more of an attacking player. So pool plays his club

:29:12. > :29:20.football at Metz, a little more attack minded. And they need a goal.

:29:21. > :29:23.They certainly do. We spoke about it earlier on, these are the key stages

:29:24. > :29:28.in the game, fresh legs coming in, get up to speed quickly and then

:29:29. > :29:38.when you're in the final third, creativity and a bit of spark and

:29:39. > :29:44.magic and get your team level. Horan did not do anything fancy, did he?

:29:45. > :29:49.Row seven, sometimes that the right decision. There will be nervous, you

:29:50. > :29:54.know you have a big price just ahead of you. You just have to try and

:29:55. > :30:07.stand strong, but sometimes that can create uncertainty. Colm tidying up

:30:08. > :30:11.for Nigeria. There is a reluctance to press from the Germans. Content

:30:12. > :30:18.just to sit deeper and invite more pressure. Trying to take advantage

:30:19. > :30:45.of Germany backing off and advance into their territory.

:30:46. > :31:08.That is much better from Germany. Controlling the game. Very few

:31:09. > :31:14.opportunities in the last ten or 15 minutes to really do this, make

:31:15. > :31:22.quite a few passes and control the tempo of the match.

:31:23. > :31:32.Given away unnecessarily but they win it back through snow Sven

:31:33. > :31:37.Bender. Now the second time, Serge Gnabry! This is looking dangerous.

:31:38. > :31:43.There were options, Bender was in acres of space on the far side, but

:31:44. > :31:50.he saw an opportunity for glory. Yeah, far too often it has happened

:31:51. > :31:56.when Gnabry has been in a really good position. Lars Bender it is in

:31:57. > :32:01.a great position and if he gets his head up, it a simple bass. He

:32:02. > :32:06.decides to take the shot on but it comes to nothing. A corner but it

:32:07. > :32:20.could have been so much more. And on the far side, Selke got to it but

:32:21. > :32:28.put it over the bar. It wasn't even that difficult a pass if he had seen

:32:29. > :32:32.it. He just didn't see it. Another time he should have pulled the ball

:32:33. > :32:37.back across goal. Got to be better in those positions, Gnabry. I'm not

:32:38. > :32:42.surprised to see the first Germany change. One or two players are

:32:43. > :32:53.starting to tire. It is warm and very sticky.

:32:54. > :33:04.It is Proemel who comes on and Sven Bender comes off. That will be

:33:05. > :33:14.pretty much a like-for-like because Proemel is a defensive midfielder.

:33:15. > :33:25.Temperatures in the 80s at the start of play. That much cooler now.

:33:26. > :33:31.Certainly the Germans are looking a little more, in third gear, shall we

:33:32. > :33:35.say, than fourth. I think that's why the coach has made the sub. They

:33:36. > :33:42.need a little bit more life on the pitch. Fresh legs needed. They have

:33:43. > :33:47.had a spell of control possession but it has not been sustained enough

:33:48. > :33:52.throughout this second-half. That will be a booking for Lars Bender,

:33:53. > :33:55.surely. Yeah, it had to be. He knew what he was doing all right, because

:33:56. > :34:00.Nigeria were starting to get away there and John Obi Mikel was

:34:01. > :34:04.advancing. Lars Bender assessed the situation and thought, you know

:34:05. > :34:10.what? I will take a hit here because if not, we're going to be cruelly

:34:11. > :34:15.exposed. As you say, badly exposed. They broke that first line. Not a

:34:16. > :34:19.massive press from the Germans but as soon as John Obi Mikel gets the

:34:20. > :34:25.wrong side of Lars Bender, there is a real breakaway. Another change,

:34:26. > :34:37.more fresh legs. Serge Gnabry this time making way and

:34:38. > :34:45.Philipp Max coming on. He came on and scored in the last round. Could

:34:46. > :34:51.certainly do with the security of a second goal.

:34:52. > :35:03.You do feel that the next goal, should it arise, would go the way of

:35:04. > :35:08.Nigeria! There is a spring, there is a little more freshness is certainly

:35:09. > :35:18.a great deal of belief about them. They just haven't tested the

:35:19. > :35:26.goalkeeper enough when they have got into the final third, Timo Horn. But

:35:27. > :35:33.much better energy levels and that might be significant in the last 13

:35:34. > :35:39.minutes or so. That looked like a foul throw but he gets away with it.

:35:40. > :35:44.Foul, free kick Nigeria. Some very, very promising moments starting to

:35:45. > :35:51.develop here. Germany look tired, don't they? Quite happy now to

:35:52. > :35:54.retreat and try and contain, quite happy with what they've got at the

:35:55. > :36:02.moment but this could lead to something for Nigeria. With 12

:36:03. > :36:08.minutes, no prizes for guessing who would much rather go into extra time

:36:09. > :36:13.in this contest. The delivery not quite good enough, and the

:36:14. > :36:21.combination of Klosterman and into managed to get it away. --

:36:22. > :36:27.Klostermann and Ginter. Poked towards the run of Serke but I think

:36:28. > :36:34.the referee has brought the playback for a foul in midfield. Germany will

:36:35. > :37:01.take a long time over this. -- brought the play back.

:37:02. > :37:26.Again, the move breaks down. Nigeria looking to break away through Umar.

:37:27. > :37:30.It is a foul and a yellow card. Ginter says it was the forward

:37:31. > :37:37.pulling him but I think the referee has got that one right. I think he

:37:38. > :37:40.has as well. He backed in initially. He spun him, he had too much

:37:41. > :37:48.strength, too much awareness around him. A big, big chance here now for

:37:49. > :37:55.Nigeria. Can they get themselves back into this game? Do not rule out

:37:56. > :38:01.a Nigerian comeback. The last five or ten minutes, Germany have looked

:38:02. > :38:05.tired. They've looked like they were clinging on a little bit. Even their

:38:06. > :38:10.game management was looking a little ropey. They've been trying to keep

:38:11. > :38:14.possession of the ball but running out of steam. The fact that they

:38:15. > :38:18.couldn't find a second goal is now beginning to come back and haunt

:38:19. > :38:23.them. Now, this couldn't be much more central.

:38:24. > :38:37.It is a wonderful opportunity. Oh! Groans from the commentary box...

:38:38. > :38:41.What a chance. In that position as well. The worst-case scenario, you

:38:42. > :38:45.go around the wall, just test the goalkeeper out. You might get a

:38:46. > :38:50.rebound and you've got players advancing on goal. Boy chance

:38:51. > :38:56.really, poor execution, I should say. It really is. -- poor chance

:38:57. > :39:02.really. I always think, in those kind of positions, if you drill it

:39:03. > :39:05.hard enough, it can hit a defender, someone in the wall, an unknowing

:39:06. > :39:10.attack and just change the direction of the ball and spin anywhere. But

:39:11. > :39:16.anything other than whacking it over the top of the bar. His technique

:39:17. > :39:22.was all wrong. Didn't look comfortable getting up for it, did

:39:23. > :39:27.he? He must have taken one or two in training, for John Obi Mikel to

:39:28. > :39:39.allow him to take one. He had such a long run-up at it.

:39:40. > :39:57.Thumped away by Sule. Well, there is only one team making the running

:39:58. > :40:04.now. Too heavy on the pass, do they possessed the quality necessary to

:40:05. > :40:08.break Germany down? That's the thing, for all the spells they have

:40:09. > :40:17.had in the game, decent spells, Nigeria, Timo Horn has hardly been

:40:18. > :40:21.tested throughout. That is the one thing he will say to his team at the

:40:22. > :40:30.end of the game, I'm sure. But they've still got time, still

:40:31. > :40:34.causing problems. He has tried to add a bit of energy into the team

:40:35. > :40:38.and there is a third change imminent. Neals Peterson, not an out

:40:39. > :40:46.and out striker, is about to come on and surely it will be Selke who

:40:47. > :40:49.makes way for him. Doing his best to keep this one in play and though he

:40:50. > :40:52.has managed it, just a bit of catching practice for the

:40:53. > :41:03.goalkeeper, who hasn't really himself been tested for the best

:41:04. > :41:12.part of half an hour. Just holding onto the ball there, the substitute.

:41:13. > :41:17.That is poor. Brandt, looking for the return. Even Germany are being

:41:18. > :41:23.sloppy now. They used the ball so well for say 70 minutes of this

:41:24. > :41:28.game. I think the bowl me conditions, the sticky atmosphere is

:41:29. > :41:34.beginning to get to the Germans and hence a third change. Actually it is

:41:35. > :41:41.Max Meyer who comes off and Neils Peterson who comes on.

:41:42. > :42:00.He gives the captain 's armband to the substitute, Niklas Sule. He has

:42:01. > :42:07.gone with two physical presence up front, hasn't he? He was excellent

:42:08. > :42:11.early on in the game, Sule, but he has tired of this heart has gone on.

:42:12. > :42:19.It's just for fresh legs higher up the pitch. If there were a single

:42:20. > :42:23.German player out there who could possibly entertain the prospect of

:42:24. > :42:27.extra time, I'm not sure, because in the last ten minutes or so even

:42:28. > :42:37.mentally they have looked like it was becoming a bit of a struggle.

:42:38. > :42:41.Psychologically, if Nigeria can equalise, they might go favourites

:42:42. > :42:46.to win this. But it's a big if because they have not created enough

:42:47. > :42:51.in this game. Germany have had enough organisation, enough grit and

:42:52. > :43:02.determination to keep those supporters happy. As Kevin said a

:43:03. > :43:07.few moments ago, can you remember Timo Horn making a genuine save?

:43:08. > :43:13.Another foul. More and more tired challenges. Bender has already had

:43:14. > :43:19.his name taken, has he not? I'm sorry, Matthias Ginter, he has

:43:20. > :43:24.already had his name taken. He's got away with it, yeah. Looking for more

:43:25. > :43:30.quality from this set piece. It was actually a poor touch, it got away

:43:31. > :43:36.from him again. Chances for him to play a better ball. It's into the

:43:37. > :43:48.right area, but easily dealt with by Germany. Extremely poor. Was he

:43:49. > :43:50.shooting? I don't know what he was trying! A little dink into the area

:43:51. > :44:00.would have been very promising. Or just keeping the ball moving as

:44:01. > :44:02.well. John Obi Mikel was stepping back after previously taking the

:44:03. > :44:09.free kick. Just keep the ball moving. There is no attempt any more

:44:10. > :44:16.for them to try to play it out from the back from Germany. They want to

:44:17. > :44:28.get the ball up and stick in the final third of Nigeria. Take the

:44:29. > :44:35.pressure off them. Peterson has come on to hold the ball up. Write a few

:44:36. > :44:37.German shirts you can see among the supporters here. Germany have a

:44:38. > :44:45.corner and exactly where they want it. Understandably, Julian Brandt

:44:46. > :44:56.taking a long time to get over to the corner.

:44:57. > :45:18.Ezequiel Munoz is to win it back somehow.

:45:19. > :45:34.Reached easily by Kumar, but his pass was poor. -- by Umar. A really

:45:35. > :45:38.disappointing lay-off by Selke, can Nigeria do something here? Again,

:45:39. > :45:44.the past is poor and the decision-making is disappointing.

:45:45. > :45:46.Now on the counterattack, here is Selke, just needs rolling in, he has

:45:47. > :45:59.turned it in! Germany will meet Brazil in the Gold

:46:00. > :46:03.Medal final on Saturday. Selke went for glory, the shot wasn't good

:46:04. > :46:09.enough but Peterson turned it into a cross. Germany have their second

:46:10. > :46:17.goal and they will meet Brazil for the Gold Medal. -- Petersen. Was the

:46:18. > :46:23.offside? Certainly Selke was clearly offside from the initial ball played

:46:24. > :46:27.into him. You spoke about Petersen being a natural striker coming onto

:46:28. > :46:32.the pitch, that was just instinct. Selke going across the goalkeeper,

:46:33. > :46:36.always giving his fellow striker the chance to get on the end of it by

:46:37. > :46:44.going across the keeper. Great anticipation from Petersen. He did

:46:45. > :46:49.so well because the angle is against him, turning it goalwards is a

:46:50. > :46:57.lovely finish. Well, there you go. That is why Germany are such a

:46:58. > :47:00.fantastic team in tournaments. They were tiring, no question, even

:47:01. > :47:09.mentally they were looking for fatigued. Nigeria fashioning a

:47:10. > :47:13.chance and a little mini break, it wasn't even a very well constructed

:47:14. > :47:19.counterattack, The Miz said from Selke and the substitute, Petersen,

:47:20. > :47:26.an only a few minutes earlier, finishing off Nigeria and Germany

:47:27. > :47:33.will meet Brazil in a game which I think we might have just wanted! --

:47:34. > :47:37.the mis-hit. It will be a great occasion. That second goal, probably

:47:38. > :47:43.Nigeria in a nutshell, giving the ball away in a really good area as

:47:44. > :47:47.well. They had comfortable possession, but a sloppy pass and

:47:48. > :47:55.Germany broke quickly, with pace and precision. Super finish in the end.

:47:56. > :48:03.Nigeria will look back at it, the tape of it and feel that it could

:48:04. > :48:07.have easily been prevented. The temptation might have been to

:48:08. > :48:11.replace Selke with Petersen but instead he thought, let's keep two

:48:12. > :48:18.up front, occupy them and we have some way of -- somewhere to go with

:48:19. > :48:21.our clearances which had been getting longer and longer.

:48:22. > :48:29.Fortuitously, those two centre forwards combined. You touched on it

:48:30. > :48:39.with the goal kicks, Pawn is always playing out when you have two

:48:40. > :48:51.players with a physical present -- Horn. That is goal number six for

:48:52. > :48:58.Petersen, although four were against Fiji. He joins Gnabry with the top

:48:59. > :49:03.scorers. No one need reminding of this, Germany destroyed Brazil,

:49:04. > :49:08.humiliated them in their own World Cup, in their own back garden, and

:49:09. > :49:15.stand 200 million Brazilians and many more around the globe with that

:49:16. > :49:19.7-1 victory that is the worst in the history of this proud footballing

:49:20. > :49:27.nation. Two years on from that, Germany and Brazil will be -- albeit

:49:28. > :49:34.they're under 23 squads have found their way through to the Gold Medal

:49:35. > :49:37.final in the Rio Olympics in the Maracana. However you describe the

:49:38. > :49:42.events that led to it and whether you believe that Nigeria have been a

:49:43. > :49:57.bit unfortunate tonight, in some ways it is the final that everybody

:49:58. > :50:04.wanted. And although I think only Ginter was the only player from

:50:05. > :50:14.either squad who was involved, it will be talked about again and again

:50:15. > :50:18.the -- between now and the final. Would Brazil want Nigeria in the

:50:19. > :50:21.final, in which case they would be heavy favourites or would they want

:50:22. > :50:28.Germany with what happened two years ago? What a final, what an occasion

:50:29. > :50:33.it will actually be now. Although is not about one player, it is worth

:50:34. > :50:36.remembering that Neymar was injured in the quarterfinal of the World Cup

:50:37. > :50:45.two years ago and couldn't make the semi, he was in tears. And he is the

:50:46. > :50:50.captain, the overage player in that Brazilian team and he will be more

:50:51. > :50:56.determined than anyone to finally get the revenge mission complete.

:50:57. > :51:02.What a final we have, what a way, in many ways, to end the Olympic

:51:03. > :51:06.competition. Saturday evening, the Maracana, in front of a sell-out

:51:07. > :51:12.crowd and 200 million Brazilians watching around their country. The

:51:13. > :51:19.Gold Medal final is between the most successful World Cup side ever,

:51:20. > :51:25.Brazil, and the most successful European side ever in the World Cup,

:51:26. > :51:31.Germany. Two years on from the most infamous match in Brazil's history.

:51:32. > :51:40.The final score, Germany, two, Nigeria, zero. STUDIO: Thank you to

:51:41. > :51:44.A-lister and Kevin for calling the second half of that one. As Alistair

:51:45. > :51:52.was saying, it is Brazil against Germany in the final at the

:51:53. > :51:57.Maracana, 9:30pm on Saturday night. Brazil, for all of their history and

:51:58. > :52:02.success, have never won and Olympic Gold Medal in the football. The

:52:03. > :52:07.pressure will be on, as Alistair was saying, they love football here,

:52:08. > :52:10.very few stories which can take the footballers and what's been

:52:11. > :52:15.happening for them in the Olympics, off the front page. We have had some

:52:16. > :52:20.gold medals, Rafael Bush silver in the boxing and also in the pole

:52:21. > :52:29.vault, but it's all about football -- Raphael Da Silva. Over on BBC

:52:30. > :52:34.One, it is the hockey, into the second half, Team GB still leading

:52:35. > :52:39.1-0, scored in the first half. They will stay with that on BBC One

:52:40. > :52:43.throughout the evening. We've got plenty more live sport for you on

:52:44. > :52:48.BBC Four through the night. I mentioned how gorgeous it is in Rio,

:52:49. > :52:53.it is one of those rare nights when you've got a sunset and a full moon

:52:54. > :52:59.at the same time, which is probably one of the reasons why Copacabana is

:53:00. > :53:03.so packed. In fact it is so nice I think we might go for a stroll.

:53:04. > :53:07.Shall we? Let's go down to the beach and see what's happening. Don't be

:53:08. > :53:14.alarmed, I'm wearing shorts for the first time on BBC Four. I don't want

:53:15. > :53:17.you to send any texts! It is 30 degrees, a gorgeous evening. We've

:53:18. > :53:23.mention that this is Bush and's corner here, only one fisherman here

:53:24. > :53:29.at the moment. -- that this is fisherman's corner. Fisherman's

:53:30. > :53:34.corner, Summerbee have said that this sells like a section of a

:53:35. > :53:41.supermarket. He has already brought a few in. How chilled is that? The

:53:42. > :53:46.full moon, the Atlantic Ocean, it is packed with people, the temperature

:53:47. > :53:51.is still around 28 degrees. In fact, would you like to see a replay of

:53:52. > :54:02.him catching his face? Some live fish action. Wait for it! Apologies

:54:03. > :54:07.for that lady in the foreground! That's not what we are looking at in

:54:08. > :54:17.case you are wondering. Hold on. Look at that tiddler. The man in the

:54:18. > :54:22.hat has produced the goods. And Gary, our lighting director, getting

:54:23. > :54:28.in the way. Thank you, Gary. Thank you for your texts and tweets. Steve

:54:29. > :54:37.says that they are the best he has ever seen. -- the best bins. Paula

:54:38. > :54:47.was asking why we can't have orange bins in the UK. Ask your counsel.

:54:48. > :54:54.Marcus, the football earlier, amazing street entertainers, and he

:54:55. > :55:01.has used the hashtag, Copacablackpool. We have the bin

:55:02. > :55:07.men, people ask what time they are coming, about two hours. Stephanie

:55:08. > :55:11.is asking what time Walter Thompson will be making an appearance. If you

:55:12. > :55:16.are watching BBC Four for the first time, this is normally where we have

:55:17. > :55:19.the physical training area, a bit of circuit training. A fellow comes

:55:20. > :55:26.down who looks like Antony Worrall Thompson. If he's here, we'll show

:55:27. > :55:31.him to do, Stephanie. Somebody asking whether Maria can present an

:55:32. > :55:39.award for sports personality of the year. What a good idea! Maria and

:55:40. > :55:44.her mum, we were promised that... Apparently he is meant to be coming

:55:45. > :55:49.down, we will have a chat with him, Fort Maria's dad. Hopefully at some

:55:50. > :56:00.stage will speak to her fiance who we believe is called Everaldo

:56:01. > :56:04.Junior. How about that, if we can fight Maria and her fiance. We'll

:56:05. > :56:09.have two asker father whether he approves of this foolishness. Having

:56:10. > :56:12.found out where the wedding is going to be taking place, if you are in

:56:13. > :56:18.Rio on the 17th of September, you are welcome. Normally we show you

:56:19. > :56:25.beach volleyball, which is down the far end. We have a different version

:56:26. > :56:29.of the sport this evening because we have, I was going to say more

:56:30. > :56:34.sophisticated, but that probably isn't a nice way to see it. Good

:56:35. > :56:40.evening, hello. Give us a way. We have volleyball. We've reached the

:56:41. > :56:44.quarterfinal stages, this is the original form, Russia already

:56:45. > :56:47.through and we know that the USA are through and we have an amazing match

:56:48. > :56:53.taking place which will see Brazil against Argentina. That is merely

:57:03. > :57:07.women went out last night which has caused a real stink here. The men's

:57:08. > :57:12.football team, that's one reason there was so much pressure on them,

:57:13. > :57:17.because some of the team sports, Brazil didn't do well. We will see

:57:57. > :58:07.soon but here is a guide to volleyball.

:58:08. > :58:13.Volleyball made its Olympic debut in Tokyo, 1964 and is a sport where

:58:14. > :58:18.power and height have become important components for players. A

:58:19. > :58:23.match involves two teams of six and is played on a court 18 metres by

:58:24. > :58:28.nine metres. The object is to ground the ball on the opponent's side of

:58:29. > :58:32.the court. A match is the best of five sets with the first four played

:58:33. > :58:37.to 25 points, and if a fifth set is required it is the first team to

:58:38. > :58:41.reach 15 points however a team must win a set by Elise two points. The

:58:42. > :58:47.team winning a point in volleyball always serves. -- at least. The team

:58:48. > :58:50.can only touch the ball three times before it must go across the net.

:58:51. > :58:55.There are a number of different shots used, the bump is when the

:58:56. > :59:01.ball is above the waist and does not need a significant change in stance

:59:10. > :59:16.into the air to line up a perfect shot for the third hit, the Spike.

:59:17. > :59:20.There is a specialised player who wears a different colour top and can

:59:21. > :59:25.be substituted into the back court for any player on the team. They

:59:26. > :59:29.can't serve, spike or rotate into the front line but they play a vital

:59:30. > :59:34.role for the team in the reception and back court defence. The men's

:59:35. > :59:38.and women's competitions have preliminary and knockout phases with

:59:39. > :59:46.the two finalists competing for the gold and silver medals. There you
