:00:00. > :00:00.secondary opportunity. That is where they kill you, the United States,

:00:00. > :00:13.with their secondary attempts. So, a minute left. Argentina with the

:00:14. > :00:18.ball, and Campazzo out to Scola for three. It is a long-range attempt,

:00:19. > :00:24.Scola giving the Argentinians some hope, but no one can really hear a

:00:25. > :00:29.comeback coming, because the United States are really in control here,

:00:30. > :00:35.they are up by 24 points. Paul George escaping the market from

:00:36. > :00:38.Argentina, Butler with the 3-point attempt, Cousins getting the

:00:39. > :00:43.rebound, and they are getting first to everything, they are stopping

:00:44. > :00:50.Argentina, it is all the United States right now.

:00:51. > :00:58.So, as Campazzo, he is just going to wind this down, heading towards

:00:59. > :01:04.three quarters time. There have been plenty of highlights for the show

:01:05. > :01:14.reel for the USA. Now Scola... Nips again. Durant on the break. Butler.

:01:15. > :01:20.What a performance from the United States. And how important it is to

:01:21. > :01:25.them after they won in their preliminaries by three over Serbia

:01:26. > :01:28.and three over France and in the quarter-final they are just starting

:01:29. > :01:32.to warm up. So it looks like the US are going

:01:33. > :01:38.into the semifinals of the basketball. Earlier today in the

:01:39. > :01:43.other men's quarter-finals Australia beat Lithuania 90- 64, and Spain

:01:44. > :01:51.beat France 92- 67 this evening. Then it is creation -- Croatia

:01:52. > :01:58.taking on Serbia. Lots of ways to keep up with what is going on at the

:01:59. > :02:04.Olympics online. It is time to say good evening to Gabby Logan at the

:02:05. > :02:11.Olympic Stadium with track and field coming up. First of all, Gabby, how

:02:12. > :02:14.is off? No danger of another moth coming into the studio ever again

:02:15. > :02:19.after the effort put in by Michael Johnson last night to take out that

:02:20. > :02:22.moth, and that moths has relayed that story to all other moths and

:02:23. > :02:28.they are not coming anywhere near us. Showing him who is boss. Let's

:02:29. > :02:33.talk athletics, because we have an almost full house, it is getting

:02:34. > :02:37.full, we have not seen as many as this earlier and there is only one

:02:38. > :02:42.reason, Usain Bolt is back in the house with the 200 metres semifinals

:02:43. > :02:46.for the men. Yes, I am looking at this race and starting to think it

:02:47. > :02:50.might be more competitive than 200 metre races we seen Usain Bolt in

:02:51. > :02:55.the past, because I am not sure, I don't know what his preparation has

:02:56. > :03:00.been light between the injury and what we saw him do at the

:03:01. > :03:04.Anniversary Games in London and here in Rio -- been like. Obviously, the

:03:05. > :03:09.100 metres, he would have wanted to defend, and he was able to do that.

:03:10. > :03:13.It takes a lot of technical work and pure speed work. I am not sure how

:03:14. > :03:17.much speed and conditioning work he has been able to do, which would

:03:18. > :03:24.allow you to sustain that speed over long distance, that is the 200

:03:25. > :03:28.metres. You have Merit, he would be disappointed not to get a better

:03:29. > :03:33.medal in the 400 metres, he got bronze, silver was the best that he

:03:34. > :03:36.could get, but he will now turn his attention to the 200 metres, he has

:03:37. > :03:47.the fastest time in the world. I don't think he can get down to 19 or

:03:48. > :03:54.19.6. This will be his last opportunity to maybe get this guy at

:03:55. > :04:00.one time -- 19.5 or 19.6. That racy shaping up to be a little bit more

:04:01. > :04:05.competitive. In each of these areas a British representative -- that

:04:06. > :04:10.race is shaping up. Of the three, who is in with the best chance?

:04:11. > :04:14.Mitchell-Blake, running under 20 seconds already this year, he has

:04:15. > :04:20.had that experience of running in championships with the US National

:04:21. > :04:24.Collegiate championships. He has been in that competition. He looked

:04:25. > :04:32.tired yesterday. He partly qualified in the round. Not as the fastest in

:04:33. > :04:35.the heat. Hopefully he will have recovered well and he can come out

:04:36. > :04:40.and display the same speed that he has earlier in the year. It has been

:04:41. > :04:46.a long season for him, starting back in January. And the women final

:04:47. > :04:51.tonight. The women's final will be a fantastic race. I think Dina will

:04:52. > :04:58.have a difficult time. Elaine Thompson, all in the outside lane

:04:59. > :05:02.is, six, seven and eight, it will be a fantastic race, they will all be

:05:03. > :05:06.together and we will see a very tight race, as we saw in the women's

:05:07. > :05:11.400 -- lanes. At the end of the evening, as well with the women's

:05:12. > :05:16.final, the semifinals are at the beginning of the programme on the

:05:17. > :05:20.track. And the men's to as well. And Great Britain has the sisters in the

:05:21. > :05:26.semi-final of the hundred metre hurdles. So, another great evening

:05:27. > :05:30.here in store, Jason, and it is still 30 degrees here as well. It is

:05:31. > :05:35.so still there is actually no wind in the air, so it is perfect for

:05:36. > :05:38.fast running. It is a good job Usain's coming later. Thank you very

:05:39. > :05:43.much indeed, and I would not want to be on the end of a Michael Johnson

:05:44. > :05:49.uppercut, with Atmos, as well, but we go back to the basketball and

:05:50. > :05:58.United States are taking on Argentina -- Atmos. Let's go back to

:05:59. > :06:08.our commentary team. Can we get things firing for the Argentines?

:06:09. > :06:17.Looking for the 3-pointer and it is not dropping for Argentina. Durant

:06:18. > :06:25.to Lowry, and they are winding down the shot clock, combining with

:06:26. > :06:26.Cousins and then he draws space for Lowry and he draws the foul with six

:06:27. > :06:48.left on the shot. It has been a physical encounter.

:06:49. > :06:51.Both teams are pushing each other. But it is all smiles for the United

:06:52. > :07:00.States right now because they are well on top here. Taking it out to

:07:01. > :07:09.Garu for three. They are not making their shots, Argentina -- Garudo.

:07:10. > :07:19.They are not looking lively. USA are completely dominating. Scola getting

:07:20. > :07:32.the rebound for Argentina. Rosen is on. You look at the United States

:07:33. > :07:40.banned, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler contributing. What a

:07:41. > :07:47.performance from Cousins. He has dominated. Scola, speaking of which,

:07:48. > :07:53.puts it away and 26 is the margin here. I think the Argentina fans

:07:54. > :08:01.have gone quiet. This is quiet by their standards. So, Lowry, a

:08:02. > :08:12.piercing pass, Butler sets up the shot from Green that doesn't go.

:08:13. > :08:28.Argentina. A foul against Lowry. Fourth successful rebound off the

:08:29. > :08:42.board. He said they cry last time they lost in 2008. This one might

:08:43. > :08:49.end in tears as well. It is a looping pass to Green. And it is

:08:50. > :09:04.just too easy, the shot for Butler, and it rims out. Oh, snaffled away

:09:05. > :09:09.from Scola. So, 6.5 minutes to go and, as we get towards the business

:09:10. > :09:15.end of the tournament, silly as it sounds, it is certainly a confidence

:09:16. > :09:20.booster for the United States after a couple of performances that might

:09:21. > :09:28.be criticised. George charges in. Three-point play again. Well, before

:09:29. > :09:33.the game they have a serious look. There was a little bit of singing

:09:34. > :09:37.and dancing but not to the level we have seen previously for the United

:09:38. > :09:41.States. Now, they have loose end up, now they are playing the basketball

:09:42. > :09:46.everyone expected them to, they have dominated against a team that would

:09:47. > :09:50.once have been a medal contender, excellent stuff, great hands from

:09:51. > :09:54.George, and he has got a three-point play, and it almost was dropped in

:09:55. > :09:59.by Green. Argentina come up with Laprovittola. It is just getting

:10:00. > :10:04.difficult for him. What about the fans, getting in, down by 28, but

:10:05. > :10:07.they don't mind, they are here, they are enjoying themselves. They are

:10:08. > :10:12.indeed and the atmosphere has been unbelievable. This is what the

:10:13. > :10:16.Olympics is all about. No doubt about that, and these scenes, you

:10:17. > :10:20.don't see that often in a basketball arena like this, and Laprovittola

:10:21. > :10:31.charging down, he goes himself for three. And, as they fly, whistle on

:10:32. > :10:46.the play. So, we're out to a 28 point margin here. Green's first

:10:47. > :10:56.foul. George with three as well. Well, the only blight so far is

:10:57. > :11:00.Thomson hasn't fired for them as well, and getting into the final and

:11:01. > :11:03.semi-final they need points from everywhere, and maybe bringing him

:11:04. > :11:07.on to try to give him some confidence into the semi-final will

:11:08. > :11:11.provide that hang on here that we would expect them to and a shortlist

:11:12. > :11:17.from Argentina, in the thick of it, but they get a second show, kicked

:11:18. > :11:22.out by Laprovittola... -- Thompson. It is on for Argentina now, and the

:11:23. > :11:35.foul is called, it appears to be on Lowry. That will send Brussino to

:11:36. > :11:38.the line. It is looking comfortable for Argentina... For the Argentines

:11:39. > :11:42.as it might be looking comfortable, but it is looking comfortable for

:11:43. > :11:51.the United States. So, they're in fine voice, no doubt about that, and

:11:52. > :11:54.it is put away by Brussino. United States players look amazed, they've

:11:55. > :11:59.never seen anything like this in the stands before, especially when the

:12:00. > :12:07.team they're supporting is losing by so many. So, Lowry, he goes himself,

:12:08. > :12:15.charges down, transfers slapped away from Green, and he will go for two.

:12:16. > :12:21.These youngsters, against the best in the world, Irving and Anthony

:12:22. > :12:31.can't take their eyes off the fans. You should watch an Argentine

:12:32. > :12:37.football game while you are around. Green, never looked like going in on

:12:38. > :12:47.that occasion. That time he puts it away and it is now back out to 27.

:12:48. > :12:51.Just the look of the manager, it felt like Argentina really believe

:12:52. > :12:56.they had a chance against the United States. The basket going to

:12:57. > :13:01.Argentina but it is getting too far away from them, down at 25 points.

:13:02. > :13:08.Lowry going for three, Mrs pulling up short, but they started so well,

:13:09. > :13:11.Argentina, out by ten points, but the United States individuals and

:13:12. > :13:14.more of a team as well kicking into gear with Kevin Durant, a brilliant

:13:15. > :13:27.performance, and they're running away with this -- misses by three.

:13:28. > :13:31.Garido, driving to the hoop. -- Garino. It is a shame that the way

:13:32. > :13:36.things are going we won't see these Argentinian fans again. They have

:13:37. > :13:40.provided a great spectacle, as well as their team, throughout, and it is

:13:41. > :13:46.Green here for the United States. Partly under the arm, secondary

:13:47. > :13:52.tap... Just unable with that deft touch to get it in -- Tucks it under

:13:53. > :13:57.the arm. Charging down the court, the young man in Brussino, it

:13:58. > :14:08.doesn't fall for him, and talking about young men, it is DeRozan for

:14:09. > :14:16.the United States. They're getting louder as the game comes towards a

:14:17. > :14:25.crescendo, so 94- 71, timeout for the United States, and it'll be

:14:26. > :14:30.interesting to see if things are -- if they are going to get something

:14:31. > :15:32.out of this as they progress towards the semi-final stage.

:15:33. > :15:42.Four minutes left. The noise is unbelievable, it is like a rock

:15:43. > :15:47.concert in here at the moment. Oh, almost snaffled away by the United

:15:48. > :15:58.States. The blind pass was brilliant from Ginobili but the short doesn't

:15:59. > :16:05.go. Quick transfer of the ball here for the United States, and off the

:16:06. > :16:13.glass from Lowry. So, it's back to 25 as we wind it down here. Five

:16:14. > :16:17.points to Lowry for the match. It would have to be some kind of

:16:18. > :16:22.record, the final three and a half minutes for Argentina to get back

:16:23. > :16:28.into this one. It is not impossible, almost, but... LAUGHTER.

:16:29. > :16:32.You would need ten threes basically, which is very unlikely given what we

:16:33. > :16:38.have seen so far. You would have to come out with Michael's famous line,

:16:39. > :16:44.it is a miracle, and Scola's attempt for three doesn't go, and Lowry

:16:45. > :16:51.decides to return serve, but he misses as well, and it comes off the

:16:52. > :16:57.board. This time he brings it back with some help. It is difficult for

:16:58. > :16:59.Argentina to get going by they're getting some inspiration from the

:17:00. > :17:04.fans, look at them getting behind their team, trying to convince up in

:17:05. > :17:08.the last couple of minutes, United States, Kevin Durant having a rest,

:17:09. > :17:11.he has done his job and Ginobili brings it in for Scola with a

:17:12. > :17:13.combination that works so well and they draw the foul with three

:17:14. > :17:26.minutes left to go. . I think the fans are going to win

:17:27. > :17:31.the fan award. The gold medal for support. Sensational stuff, your

:17:32. > :17:38.team is down by 25 lines, it doesn't matter. Keep singing. They have

:17:39. > :17:42.really added something. They have witnessed a terrific team, too. The

:17:43. > :17:51.USA. We look forward to them progressing. Lewis: puts the extra

:17:52. > :18:05.on the board. We are back to 24. -- loose scholar. -- Luis Scola.

:18:06. > :18:13.Just inside, the shop for two doesn't go. On that occasion it was

:18:14. > :18:22.from Barnes. Some extra court time for some of these players. Ginobili

:18:23. > :18:25.comes in and draws the foul. Barnes has played the least amount for the

:18:26. > :18:29.US. When he comes on you know that they are doing very well. He has

:18:30. > :18:33.only played nine minutes so far per game. That is a symbol of what they

:18:34. > :18:37.have achieved in this game after only a narrow victory over

:18:38. > :18:41.Australia, a 3-point victory over Serbia and a 3-point victory over

:18:42. > :18:45.France. The USA silencing their critics, but they are being silenced

:18:46. > :18:51.by the Argentinian fans right now, because nothing can be heard apart

:18:52. > :18:58.from them. Manu Ginobili with the extra. The intensity has gone out of

:18:59. > :19:10.the workrate from the US, as you would expect, as well.

:19:11. > :19:28.Carlos Delfino to Scola. Delphine again. Showing some nice skills, but

:19:29. > :19:31.a rebound for Lowry. Back in the hands of the Rose, who is trying to

:19:32. > :19:41.milk the experience as much as he can.

:19:42. > :19:51.As they get to the century they lead by 27. Another 100 point game from

:19:52. > :19:56.the United States. They were looking a bit shaky when they could not get

:19:57. > :20:01.to 100 against Australia and Serbia, but they repeated the dose against

:20:02. > :20:06.France. What a performance. What a tournament from Manu Ginobili, he

:20:07. > :20:11.will be 43 in the next Olympics so this is probably his last one. A

:20:12. > :20:17.fantastic basketballer, getting a standing ovation as a player of his

:20:18. > :20:26.stature should. So well-known in Argentina. A bit of emotion coming

:20:27. > :20:30.through from the great man himself. Gold-medallist in 2004, as well,

:20:31. > :20:41.Manu Ginobili. Under the basket, doesn't go for the lot. -- for

:20:42. > :20:45.Butler. Slamdunk! On the other side, DeRozan says, don't cry for me,

:20:46. > :20:51.Argentina! And he puts it away. Extraordinary stuff from DeMar

:20:52. > :20:54.DeRozan. There is no slamdunk contest here but if there was he

:20:55. > :20:59.would win it. That was sensational. What a spectacle. I think Ginobili

:21:00. > :21:05.enjoy that on the inside, a little bit. Terrific stuff. The US has made

:21:06. > :21:15.the statements they wanted tonight. Rebound under the basket from the

:21:16. > :21:28.journey brings it down. -- from wondrous journey. -- from Andres

:21:29. > :21:35.Nocioni. Barnes, for three. He was never going to miss. Harrison Barnes

:21:36. > :21:39.with the 3-pointer, his first of this Olympic Games. He is getting

:21:40. > :21:44.minutes, he is getting baskets, Harrison Barnes.

:21:45. > :21:53.The sting has gone out of it. I think that is the end of the game,

:21:54. > :21:57.to be honest. So with the game clock now at 15, it has been a really

:21:58. > :22:02.entertaining match, even though the score blew out and the US were home

:22:03. > :22:12.and hose. Gee, we have seen some highlights. It is the United States

:22:13. > :22:21.back, I wouldn't say bigger and I wouldn't say that, but they are

:22:22. > :22:25.where they belong. Heading into the semifinals, and short priced

:22:26. > :22:28.favourites for a gold medal again. The Argentina fans have been

:22:29. > :22:39.remarkable. They have lacked their side this whole Olympic Games. --

:22:40. > :22:43.backed. This might be Argentina's Manu Ginobili's last ever Olympic

:22:44. > :22:49.appearance. You would not expect him to be around in another four years.

:22:50. > :22:53.He knows so many of these NBA stars and coaches from the United States

:22:54. > :23:00.team, they are saluting the legend. In the end, it is the United States

:23:01. > :23:03.105, Argentina 78. The US safely through to the

:23:04. > :23:06.semifinals, wondering if that victory is enough to silence some of

:23:07. > :23:10.the critics that have emerged in the American press over the past few

:23:11. > :23:14.days or so. Incredible noise from the Argentinian fans. They have

:23:15. > :23:18.travelled in their numbers to watch all their heroes in various sports,

:23:19. > :23:25.but what a noise inside the Carioca Arena one this evening. Argentina

:23:26. > :23:29.out bubbly basketball, the US through. Let's bring you up-to-date

:23:30. > :23:33.with what has been happening in the basketball all day today. In the

:23:34. > :23:40.first man's quarter-final Australia took on Lithuania. Australia's

:23:41. > :23:43.Boomers have never won a gold medal in men's basketball. But when you

:23:44. > :23:48.has won several bronzes. Australia are through. Croatia take on Serbia

:23:49. > :23:54.shortly. It will keep you up-to-date with that one when that starts.

:23:55. > :23:59.Spain beat France by 92- 67. Spain, silver-medallists at the last two

:24:00. > :24:05.Games. And as we have just seen, the US beating Argentina 105-78. Let's

:24:06. > :24:10.bring you up-to-date with all of today's headlines.

:24:11. > :24:17.No doubt the story of the day, Great Britain's women reach their first

:24:18. > :24:21.ever hockey final with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over New

:24:22. > :24:25.Zealand. Team GB guaranteed to improve on that 2012 bronze medal

:24:26. > :24:30.when they go for gold in Friday's final against the Netherlands. We

:24:31. > :24:34.had been hoping to celebrate Team GB's 20th gold medal earlier today,

:24:35. > :24:38.but calm conditions in the sailing match that Saskia Clark and Hannah

:24:39. > :24:45.Mills must wait another day to seal the Olympic title in the women's 470

:24:46. > :24:51.class. The velodrome might have shut its doors, but the Team GB cycling

:24:52. > :24:54.medal hunt is not over yet. Written's former world champion Liam

:24:55. > :24:59.Phillips was the 10th fastest in the BMX Time trial today, an event which

:25:00. > :25:07.determine seedings that Thursday's quarter-finals. In badminton, Rajib

:25:08. > :25:09.Yousef, the first British man to reach analytic singles

:25:10. > :25:23.quarter-final, lost his last eight contest against Denmark. Straight

:25:24. > :25:26.sets loss. London 2012 runs medallist Liam Heath and Jon

:25:27. > :25:29.Schofield Wombarra K to 200 metres Canoe Sprint semi-final to

:25:30. > :25:37.comfortably progressed to Thursday's final. -- London 2012 bronze

:25:38. > :25:41.medallists. Ten metre platform diver Tonia Couch also enjoyed a good day

:25:42. > :25:44.at the office, qualifying for Thursday's semi-final. Teammate

:25:45. > :25:56.Sarah Barrow was eliminated, however. And the women's Ulf got

:25:57. > :26:00.under way today, with written's Charley Hull finishing with a three

:26:01. > :26:04.under par 68 to lie three shots off the lead after day one. Teammate

:26:05. > :26:10.Katrina Matthew had a level par round. So we will be going to the

:26:11. > :26:13.track and field and Gaby shortly, but we will bring you up-to-date

:26:14. > :26:17.with what has been happening in boxing. We are reaching the business

:26:18. > :26:20.end of the competition. We will show you what has been happening in the

:26:21. > :26:25.middleweight between Savannah Marshall of Team GB taking on the

:26:26. > :26:38.Netherlands. We will pick this one up in the second four rounds.

:26:39. > :26:40.COMMENTATOR: Into the second round, Savannah Marshall the two-time

:26:41. > :26:54.Olympian starts the second round at terrific that by landing a right

:26:55. > :27:03.hand. A terrific exchange to begin round number two. Hitting the

:27:04. > :27:18.target, looking strong on the forward foot. Marshal, on that front

:27:19. > :27:33.foot, that is a nice jab going forward. She needs to switch

:27:34. > :27:37.downstairs occasionally, with the right hand to the body. That is

:27:38. > :27:45.better. This is a much better start from Marshall. Got to keep it going.

:27:46. > :27:49.Setting things up well with the jab before the boxers fall into a

:27:50. > :27:55.clinch. Marshall entered London 2012 as her first Olympic Games, that was

:27:56. > :27:58.some four years ago. Some had adjustment will be needed to be

:27:59. > :28:03.strapped on the Red Hat guard of Savannah Marshall. Four years ago at

:28:04. > :28:08.London she entered as the world reigning champion. She is still the

:28:09. > :28:14.only woman in history to have inflicted defeat on Claressa

:28:15. > :28:18.Shields. She steps back into the mix after that brief interlude,

:28:19. > :28:23.Marshall. She is not a person who particularly enjoyed the spotlight.

:28:24. > :28:35.She has been dubbed by the media as the" Silence Assassin". -- silent.

:28:36. > :28:38.Nouchka Fontijn not panicking, but she is getting beaten in this round.

:28:39. > :28:44.This is a much better around from Savannah Marshall. The double jab

:28:45. > :28:47.coming into effect. Good work by the British boxer. She is responding

:28:48. > :28:52.well in this first round, from losing that first. Let's see if we

:28:53. > :29:01.can listen in to her coach inside the ropes. You have got to get hold

:29:02. > :29:11.of her. Get some more space, throw her a little bit. Good girl.

:29:12. > :29:15.(INAUDIBLE). She only gets one score. That is very unlucky, I

:29:16. > :29:24.thought. I thought she had a good round there. Into the second half of

:29:25. > :29:34.the contest. It is all square, one round apiece.

:29:35. > :29:41.Nouchka Fontijn, the tournament number two seed, is leading by two

:29:42. > :29:56.points, 18- 22. But Marshall is in in spy of mood here. -- in inspired

:29:57. > :30:00.mood. She has got to switch to the body, Savannah Marshall. It is all

:30:01. > :30:04.had work. She needs to nip downstairs with a right hand to the

:30:05. > :30:08.body and finish up with the left hand to be had. She is positive

:30:09. > :30:11.coming forward, but it is a bit predict the ball out. Nouchka

:30:12. > :30:19.Fontijn is bringing her onto some shots. That is why she has to mix it

:30:20. > :30:22.up and work downstairs better. We mentioned that going into London

:30:23. > :30:30.2012 she was the reigning world champion. Savannah Marshall comes

:30:31. > :30:33.into this as the reigning world champion bronze medallist, from her

:30:34. > :30:37.second Olympic campaign. A little bit under the radar, because all of

:30:38. > :30:41.the spotlight that was on Savannah Marshall before London has been

:30:42. > :30:43.transferred to Claressa Shields. Plenty of talk about that long

:30:44. > :30:52.winning streak she has been on. pace a little bit here. Marshall's

:30:53. > :31:03.coming on strong. She is feeling the pace, most

:31:04. > :31:14.definitely, so Marshall's. To keep it going. That is a classic 1-2. She

:31:15. > :31:20.is breathing through an open mouth. It is the first bout of the

:31:21. > :31:26.tournament after a bye in the opening round. Throughout the course

:31:27. > :31:34.of the tournament, that can work against you coming in with ring rust

:31:35. > :31:53.rather than being rested. Those scores are the most important.

:31:54. > :32:00.Fontun... Into the fourth and final round and that is a jolting left jab

:32:01. > :32:08.from Marshall, coming out in spirited fashion. He needs her to

:32:09. > :32:12.three lots of shots, recognising this, and Marshall is throwing out

:32:13. > :32:23.instructions, because she has come out blazing to begin this fourth and

:32:24. > :32:29.final round. She needs a massive round here, Marshall, trailing by

:32:30. > :32:36.three points for judges A and C. In all reality she needs to force a

:32:37. > :32:43.stoppage. You have got to give her ten out of ten for effort here. She

:32:44. > :32:51.keeps on coming. She has to find the quality shots. She needs somehow or

:32:52. > :32:55.punches, Marshall, but I think she has been very unlucky with some of

:32:56. > :33:02.the scores. Nevertheless, just less than a minute. Can she do it? She is

:33:03. > :33:10.really going for it now, Marshall, all credit to her. Jolting left jab

:33:11. > :33:15.again from Marshall. Fontun, fighting on courage and pride and

:33:16. > :33:20.instinct, because she appears to be running out of energy. Look at the

:33:21. > :33:25.way she is losing her energy when the athletes come together. And

:33:26. > :33:29.still looking to work the way both up and down stairs, Marshall. Not

:33:30. > :33:36.giving up despite the clock not on her side. Onto the front once more,

:33:37. > :33:42.unrelenting, trying to walk down her opponent, with Fontun intelligently

:33:43. > :33:49.tying up her opponent. A good hand from Marshall, and another, and

:33:50. > :33:54.Fontun makes distance, before wrapping her up. And what a spirited

:33:55. > :33:57.display. There can be little doubt that given the status of the

:33:58. > :34:04.scorecards in the final round, it will be Fontun, the tournament

:34:05. > :34:10.number two seed, reigning World Championship silver-medallist who

:34:11. > :34:12.will go through to the final four, but Savannah Marshall gave it

:34:13. > :34:18.everything, and when you consider the manner in which she has

:34:19. > :34:22.acquitted herself, compared to her first Olympic appearance four years

:34:23. > :34:26.ago when she was to spirited my deflated, and didn't perform at all,

:34:27. > :34:30.well, this has been a road to redemption for Marshall. Not the

:34:31. > :34:43.result she would have wanted but the manner in which she has acquitted

:34:44. > :34:47.herself is very impressive indeed. So, Fontun, tournament number two

:34:48. > :34:53.seed and reigning World Championship silver-medallist, gets the victory,

:34:54. > :34:56.a split decision victory over her familiar rival, Marshall, and she

:34:57. > :35:01.goes through to the middle stages in the final four but immense credit

:35:02. > :35:04.should be put in the direction of Marshall, because she did very well

:35:05. > :35:09.indeed, she fought with everything she had, she has conceded a split

:35:10. > :35:18.decision but she has laid to rest the ghost of London 2012. STUDIO:

:35:19. > :35:25.Yes, great stuff, and Shields has passed the Russian, the USA Marshall

:35:26. > :35:30.not lost with Marshall who beat her before the 2012 Olympics, and she

:35:31. > :35:39.faces the Kaz at Stony Shakimova in the semifinals -- Shakimova from

:35:40. > :35:44.Kazakhstan. If you want some BBC for action right now, table tennis is

:35:45. > :35:49.ongoing in the men's team final with China taking on Japan, Japan with

:35:50. > :35:53.the lead. Red button free view. If you have that, live tae kwon do and

:35:54. > :36:00.we will show you highlights of that later he on BBC One. Lots of

:36:01. > :36:06.fantastic sport available for you right across the BBC, but right now

:36:07. > :36:07.here on BBC One it is time to join our special forces at the Olympic

:36:08. > :37:03.Stadium. Goodbye for now. LAUGHTER.

:37:04. > :37:13.That is brilliant. And there he is in his regular skivvies, not in his

:37:14. > :37:17.combat clothes. There was a complaint from the Cotter family

:37:18. > :37:21.that he hadn't been included, and we felt it was very unfair that he

:37:22. > :37:24.wasn't in that first VT. I hope you are pleased with that, Andrew, and

:37:25. > :37:29.we have worked out that everyone in the team apart from me hasn't aged,

:37:30. > :37:33.which is unfair at all. We didn't quite say that, they remain

:37:34. > :37:41.nameless. Under the name of Brendan, I was like, who was that? LAUGHTER.

:37:42. > :37:45.He was a fine young runner. He was. Let's head on and show you what's

:37:46. > :37:52.coming up in this feast of athletics here tonight. Well, it is all about

:37:53. > :37:58.the women first up on the track, and the men's javelin decathlon, sorry,

:37:59. > :38:04.the men's javelin qualification is going, the decathlon is ongoing, and

:38:05. > :38:09.the 100 metre hurdles semifinals, featuring two British women and the

:38:10. > :38:20.women's long jump also have two British women. And the decathlon,

:38:21. > :38:23.the final event of the night. And the 45 second leader runner in the

:38:24. > :38:30.lead at the moment, looking to carry that on the overnight. And then at

:38:31. > :38:37.two o'clock the men's 200 metres semifinals, featuring Usain Bolt and

:38:38. > :38:41.three Rikishi men, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake as well --

:38:42. > :38:48.British. And the women's 200 metre final featuring Elaine Thompson at

:38:49. > :38:53.2:30am. And then the women who qualify for that hundred metres

:38:54. > :38:57.hurdle go again at 2:55am, but I imagine many of you will focus a lot

:38:58. > :39:06.on just after two o'clock in the morning when all eyes will be on a

:39:07. > :39:11.certain to hundred metres sprinter -- 200 metres sprinter. Usain Bolt

:39:12. > :39:15.lives and breathes Olympic titles, gathering them up as though they

:39:16. > :39:23.were daisies in a field. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE.

:39:24. > :39:33.This is his arena, this is his stage. Attempting to become the

:39:34. > :39:37.first athlete to achieve three gold medals in the same event, competing

:39:38. > :39:40.at a level which no one has done before, look at the impact it has

:39:41. > :39:45.here and look at the impact it has around the world. Getting ready to

:39:46. > :39:54.rumble in Rio. The Olympic 100 metres final. And Gatlin gets away

:39:55. > :39:58.well. It is Gatlin leading. Gatlin is charging. Here comes Usain Bolt

:39:59. > :40:05.and Usain Bolt is going to take it. Usain Bolt gets it! 9.80. A

:40:06. > :40:19.magnificent run! The Odyssey continues! Listen to the noise in

:40:20. > :40:28.Rio de Janeiro! Listen to the adulation! Look at this man.

:40:29. > :40:35.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. The triple triple is on.

:40:36. > :40:41.And it also helps explain why this stadium is about as full as it has

:40:42. > :40:45.been midweek, certainly, because they absolutely adore him here and

:40:46. > :40:49.the atmosphere has already begun to build. The temperatures is still 30

:40:50. > :40:53.degrees, beautiful for sprinters, not so good if you are sitting under

:40:54. > :40:57.the lights of a TV screen, but we shall not complain, and let's talk

:40:58. > :41:01.about Usain Bolt, was he playing with the press after the 100 metres,

:41:02. > :41:05.he said if the heat was far apart he said he could go for the world

:41:06. > :41:09.record. He said to you earlier in the summer that he would not go for

:41:10. > :41:14.it in the 200. There is a gap between the world record and sub 19

:41:15. > :41:20.and he said he didn't think he could accomplish the sub 19 any more.

:41:21. > :41:24.There is 19 hundreds of a second between that. Maybe he feels he can

:41:25. > :41:28.do that and maybe it is because, here is the mystery, his training

:41:29. > :41:32.has been going so well over the summer between that time that he got

:41:33. > :41:34.the injury at the Jamaican championships and the Anniversary

:41:35. > :41:39.Games and then from the Anniversary Games to now, so we don't know

:41:40. > :41:46.what's been going on, so that is the mystery. Earlier, Michael said that

:41:47. > :41:50.out of three British men, Nathaniel Blake has the best chance, and he is

:41:51. > :41:58.six on the all-time list this year, he has run 19.95, so would you agree

:41:59. > :42:01.with that? I think based on his Collegiate experience, yes, weekly

:42:02. > :42:14.spoke about earlier in the week. I still feel that the edge for me is

:42:15. > :42:25.to merely Jamely. That would be my call and I -- and don't forget we

:42:26. > :42:32.have two British men coming on. Before we get to that, Steve has

:42:33. > :42:36.some breaking news this evening. Yes, anyone who was with us earlier

:42:37. > :42:45.on today would have enjoyed an enthralling steeplechase final. A

:42:46. > :42:55.major title, finally, for this talent, and silver for the USA. The

:42:56. > :42:59.defending champion as -- has crossed in third place. He announced

:43:00. > :43:05.retirement from the sport. A fitting finale. However, the French

:43:06. > :43:15.protested one hour after the race. After a lot of scrutiny, and you can

:43:16. > :43:22.see Mekhissi-Benabbad, he puts one foot over the line between the cones

:43:23. > :43:32.I think perhaps to hold his balance. Watch this, and Benabbad is behind

:43:33. > :43:36.him, possibly sees this, one foot out, that is his left foot, his

:43:37. > :43:45.right foot comes back in the line and that has been upheld by the jury

:43:46. > :43:50.of appeal, so he has been disqualified and the bronze medal

:43:51. > :44:00.goes to Mekhissi-Benabbad, and in my view, we are astonished at that

:44:01. > :44:09.decision. And given how far Kemboi was ahead, and it was one foot that

:44:10. > :44:16.has now meant that he is the -- disqualified. And as I said, I think

:44:17. > :44:25.it was harsh from the jury of appeal.

:44:26. > :44:30.So, the first semi-final of the women's 100 metres hurdles, and

:44:31. > :44:43.Tiffany Porter for Great Britain. She has never made an Olympic final.

:44:44. > :44:48.She has a bronze medal. Fourth and fifth at the World Championships

:44:49. > :44:52.before that. And Beijing last year, just not quite in the kind of form

:44:53. > :45:03.that took to those major championship finals. And that bronze

:45:04. > :45:09.medal. And Williams, her sister, Danielle, won. She didn't finish in

:45:10. > :45:16.the Jamaican trials. The Croatian, 31, with huge improvements last

:45:17. > :45:28.year, taking half a second in her PBs. And Tiffany Porter to chants of

:45:29. > :45:34.a second off her PB -- tenths of a second off. A surprise silver at the

:45:35. > :45:39.World Championships, the new European champion and a very decent

:45:40. > :45:47.heptathlete as well, but specialising in the hurdles. And

:45:48. > :46:00.Talay, bronze in Beijing, former European champion, in a back dated

:46:01. > :46:05.bronze following a drugs cheat. And I think favourite for the overall

:46:06. > :46:08.gold in the absence of Harrison, she has pushed her close as all this

:46:09. > :46:16.season, Rollins, and Harrison fell victim at the US trials. Gomis

:46:17. > :46:24.France, with a personal best of 12.79, second to Cindy at the French

:46:25. > :46:31.championships. And Seymour of the Bahamas, lowering the Bahamas record

:46:32. > :46:36.four times this season. So, the first of three semifinals and it

:46:37. > :46:39.will be the first two who go through automatically, and the next two

:46:40. > :46:41.fastest losers only to the final, which takes place in just over two

:46:42. > :46:53.hours' time. Tiffany Porter needs something,

:46:54. > :46:56.because she is not running the times at the moment that are quite quick

:46:57. > :47:02.enough to see her into the final, you suspect. So many variables, so

:47:03. > :47:13.many things can happen in hurdles. It is humid and still, not a breath

:47:14. > :47:15.of wind today in Rio. First semi-final in the women's 100 metres

:47:16. > :47:29.hurdles. Porter raced to the first barrier,

:47:30. > :47:36.she is running hard. Cindy Roleder trying to get alongside her. Alina

:47:37. > :47:46.Talay has gone, but Porter fades as well. Pedrya Seymour coming through

:47:47. > :47:53.late for the Bahamas, 12.4 rate, just an indicator of what Rowlands

:47:54. > :47:58.can do. -- 12.40 eight. That is not really a surprise, she got out so

:47:59. > :48:04.well but has been fading of late. Pedrya Seymour rock the Bahamas, we

:48:05. > :48:10.talked about her lowering the bohemian record over and over again

:48:11. > :48:18.this season -- Bahamian record. A great run for her. But for Tiffany

:48:19. > :48:22.Porter, not quite good enough. Not this time, unfortunately, for

:48:23. > :48:30.Tiffany. But Riana Rowlands -- Brianna Rollins takes hold of this

:48:31. > :48:35.field. Once she gets that lead it is difficult for anybody to close her

:48:36. > :48:41.down. It matches her name, she has this rolling technique. She loses

:48:42. > :48:46.herself over these barriers. A unique technique for women, but so

:48:47. > :48:51.effective. Tiffany did get out very well, just at the back end. She has

:48:52. > :48:54.a basic hip problem, actually, which means that at the back end of the

:48:55. > :48:59.race she fatigues more than necessary. Unfortunately for her,

:49:00. > :49:03.this is what she suffers from. So when lots of times people criticise

:49:04. > :49:06.her, saying that she does not do enough technical work or technical

:49:07. > :49:12.endurance work, it is just the fact that it is just her, unfortunately.

:49:13. > :49:16.She gets out well and when she is working she is really swift over

:49:17. > :49:20.this part of the race. She has to work with trailing her leg through

:49:21. > :49:23.all the time. It is this stage, when the technical fatigue sets in, and

:49:24. > :49:28.her actual body lets her down slightly. It is nothing to do with

:49:29. > :49:34.work at all. It is just her physiology, unfortunately. Worksite,

:49:35. > :49:42.still keep striving, still keeps pushing to the end. -- works hard.

:49:43. > :49:46.She is a fighter. But not this time. Those are the kinds of times that

:49:47. > :49:50.she has been running all season, they are not good enough to get

:49:51. > :49:55.through. A big national record again for Pedrya Seymour from the Bahamas.

:49:56. > :50:00.A fifth national record this season for her, to see her through. Tiffany

:50:01. > :50:04.Porter speaking to Philip. Well, these are always the most difficult

:50:05. > :50:09.interviews to do, Vickers Tiffany wanted so much more and expected so

:50:10. > :50:13.much more, but it was not to be? -- because Tiffany wanted. Yes,

:50:14. > :50:17.obviously I did not plan for that to happen. I don't know what to say.

:50:18. > :50:22.You had a fast reaction time. Was there something that did not work

:50:23. > :50:27.for you? I think I just panicked. I needed to just relax. But, I mean,

:50:28. > :50:31.it is over now. I do not know if that will be good enough to get me

:50:32. > :50:36.to the final. What were you saying to yourself on the starting line? I

:50:37. > :50:40.had to tell myself to relax, which I didn't do. Obviously I am

:50:41. > :50:44.disappointed. I hope it is enough and I hope my sister makes it to the

:50:45. > :50:47.final. Thank you for stopping on talking. We know you are

:50:48. > :50:57.disappointed. Well, she had the faster start. She did. We have come

:50:58. > :51:01.to expect that from Tiffany. But like she said, technically, towards

:51:02. > :51:05.the end of the race, it is just not good enough, unfortunately. Whether

:51:06. > :51:08.that is physiological or not, unfortunately for Tiffany, it was

:51:09. > :51:14.not meant to be. It has not been a vintage year for her. That is fair

:51:15. > :51:18.to say. I still would have expected her to get through. She has proved

:51:19. > :51:23.time and time again that she is able to get into finals. She will be

:51:24. > :51:28.bitterly, bitterly disappointed with that performance. Yes, that bronze

:51:29. > :51:33.medal in the World Championships was a real indicator of way she could go

:51:34. > :51:39.in the sport. Since then, things have not always come together. Last

:51:40. > :51:44.year in Beijing did not come together either. Yes, in debating

:51:45. > :51:47.Championships she literally clipped the final hurdles when she was

:51:48. > :51:56.almost in a medal winning position. Schmidt in the ageing championships.

:51:57. > :51:59.-- in the Beijing Championships. It doesn't matter what your form is

:52:00. > :52:04.like, you hit a hurdle and things can change.

:52:05. > :52:10.These semifinals are always nervous, even for the best. Nia Ali will be

:52:11. > :52:17.hoping she can settle her nerves. She will be the standout here.

:52:18. > :52:26.Plenty of others to look out for. A letter below by Moosomin, from

:52:27. > :52:40.Nigeria. Nadine Hildebrand of Germany. She is in lane four.

:52:41. > :52:46.Anybody could come second here, too Nia Ali. And I am saying that,

:52:47. > :52:51.coming second, because she should win this. Definitely should win

:52:52. > :52:59.this. A great year for her. Only third at the American trials. Such

:53:00. > :53:02.talent they have in this event. And the one they have left, Kenny

:53:03. > :53:06.Harrison, the new world record holder. Phylicia George of Canada in

:53:07. > :53:19.lane six. And another 19-year-old running fault E -- running for the

:53:20. > :53:30.E, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. -- Puerto Rico. Nooralotta Neziri of Finland,

:53:31. > :53:38.in lane eight. And then the Keisha Wilson, the much more experienced

:53:39. > :53:53.athlete, 30 years of age. -- Nick Esher Wilson. Everything tells us

:53:54. > :53:56.that Nia Ali wins it. Here is a 19-year-old who will want to chase

:53:57. > :54:01.it home, Camacho-Quinn. She competed in the American trials and reached

:54:02. > :54:06.the semifinals, but as I said, she is now competing for Puerto Rico.

:54:07. > :54:15.Still learning her craft, Camacho-Quinn. Watch out for Toby

:54:16. > :54:30.and a son of Nigeria in lane three. -- watch out for Amusan of Nigeria.

:54:31. > :54:35.Phylicia George of Canada as well. Nia Ali gets a good start, so does

:54:36. > :54:39.Hildebrand alongside her. Camacho-Quinn has a chance here.

:54:40. > :54:47.Camacho-Quinn coming through. Hits the hurdle! Nia Ali and Phylicia

:54:48. > :54:54.George. What a shame, what a real shame. That was going to be the race

:54:55. > :54:58.of her life. The 19-year-old was pushing all the way. Maybe that is

:54:59. > :55:08.why she hit the hurdle. Near Arlie got out well. She looked so calm,

:55:09. > :55:12.really calm. Well, she is 19. She will have more opportunities. But

:55:13. > :55:17.goodness me, she was right amongst it. She was absolutely rolling,

:55:18. > :55:23.Steve. But she is devastated. Look out about. This is what the Olympic

:55:24. > :55:26.Games means to her. And as well, when you are in great shape, your

:55:27. > :55:32.training partner is in wonderful shape, it was a bit of a signal.

:55:33. > :55:36.Watch this. She captures that trail leg and then goes into it with her

:55:37. > :55:40.lead, and it is all over. Once you have all of your force going forward

:55:41. > :55:44.that way there is not much you can do. It was the hurdle before that

:55:45. > :55:51.that caused her to be short of that barrier, and then to stand on it.

:55:52. > :55:55.Devastating for her. She is still learning her craft. She didn't

:55:56. > :56:01.compete at all last year. She only started this seriously in 2013 and

:56:02. > :56:05.2014. She is only 19. Somebody should say to her, that was

:56:06. > :56:09.brilliant, up to that point. She has got to believe in herself. No doubt,

:56:10. > :56:12.remember, you mentioned that she is training with the world record

:56:13. > :56:18.holder in this event. She will definitely be able to consult her.

:56:19. > :56:22.Where she is going to get that improvement is from getting a faster

:56:23. > :56:25.start. It is that hurdle but she clips with her trail leg, which

:56:26. > :56:32.causes the problem with the lead leg. The race then goes completely

:56:33. > :56:36.away from her. Nia Ali moves away to take the victory comfortably. Look

:56:37. > :56:42.at that expression. You have to feel for the young woman. Nia Ali, nice,

:56:43. > :56:46.cool and calm, focusing on the barrier. The cashier 's aggressive

:56:47. > :56:49.off the barrier all the time. She pulls that trail leg through

:56:50. > :56:56.actively, the most important thing. Runs off the barrier well. Yes, very

:56:57. > :57:02.good stuff from Nia Ali. But all of that drama means at the moment,

:57:03. > :57:11.Tiffany Porter is still in a provocation position, hanging on to

:57:12. > :57:16.that second fastest spot of 12.82. Well, I bet Tiffany Porter did not

:57:17. > :57:20.expect that. 12 point 91 was the third place in that race. She has to

:57:21. > :57:24.take some deep breaths and hope that her sister will go through

:57:25. > :57:27.automatically, because I am sure she will want her sister to go through,

:57:28. > :57:32.and that the third fastest in this race is not as fast as her. There is

:57:33. > :57:35.Cindy Ofili. She has run quicker than Tiffany this season. Arguably

:57:36. > :57:42.in better shape, would you say? Definitely. 12 point 66 is her best

:57:43. > :57:47.at the moment. She has just come into her own. I am not sure whether

:57:48. > :57:51.they actually train together, but I have seen some pictures on social

:57:52. > :57:56.media. You can see Tiffany pacing up and down there. Tiffany is a very

:57:57. > :58:01.religious person, she will be praying right now. She will have to

:58:02. > :58:06.pray hard. It is agony, I can't begin to tell you what that feels

:58:07. > :58:09.like. Last night we had Dina Asher-Smith scraped through as the

:58:10. > :58:14.fastest loser, we had a lead oil as well. It is not impossible. No, and

:58:15. > :58:20.I don't know if this next heat will be the fastest of the three, either.

:58:21. > :58:25.The faster athletes were in the last two hits. We will see. Obviously you

:58:26. > :58:32.have to get in there and finish top two, and hope that those other two

:58:33. > :58:38.times will be slower, for Tiffany to get in. It is a little bit of a bad

:58:39. > :58:42.situation, that Cindy and Tiffany could both the competing for the

:58:43. > :58:48.final spot. You could have that sort of scenario which could be

:58:49. > :58:51.interesting to see. It could be, but you know what, Tiffany will be so

:58:52. > :58:57.delighted if her sister gets through. They are so close, such a

:58:58. > :59:02.strong bond. They train together sometimes, they are so tight. We

:59:03. > :59:04.have talked about that family atmosphere this year with her

:59:05. > :59:11.husband also competing in the 110 hurdles. She is pacing like an

:59:12. > :59:15.expectant father, waiting and waiting to see what could be

:59:16. > :59:20.delivered in this, the final of the semi-final heats. Andrew Cotter?

:59:21. > :59:27.As Michael said, it is not the strongest of the three semifinals. A

:59:28. > :59:30.decent lineup here for Cindy Ofili. While Tiffany Porter continues to

:59:31. > :59:34.place, we will bring you the result from the last semi-final. Yes, just

:59:35. > :59:38.to confirm that, Oluwatobiloba Amusan was not quick enough in third

:59:39. > :59:41.place, the other 19 you rolled. That would have been so different if

:59:42. > :59:49.Camacho-Quinn had stayed on her feet. Here is the starting lineup

:59:50. > :59:59.for the last of the semifinals. Kristi Castlin is the in form

:00:00. > :00:06.athlete here. Cindy Ofili is in lane six.

:00:07. > :00:10.The younger sister, who deliberately never attempted to run for the US.

:00:11. > :00:16.Her mother Lillian was born in London. Runner-up to her older

:00:17. > :00:19.sister at the UK Championships by a fraction, but as we have been

:00:20. > :00:28.talking about, she has slightly quicker times this season. Wearing

:00:29. > :00:35.out a groove on the top level of the stands. Whoever finishes first, when

:00:36. > :00:38.they do race together, they always stay to watch. Cindy below, the

:00:39. > :00:44.French champion and recordholder. Not running the kinds of times she

:00:45. > :00:48.was a year ago. She is in lane two. Always wears tape on her fingers,

:00:49. > :00:54.she is actually allergic to the surface of the track. Nikkita Holder

:00:55. > :00:58.smack into the semi-final. 12 point 92 in the first round for the

:00:59. > :01:07.Canadian. Made the world final back in 2011 in South Korea. There is

:01:08. > :01:13.Kristi Castlin. What a great strength the US has always had in

:01:14. > :01:16.this event. It actually has the top seven times in the world this year,

:01:17. > :01:20.we have talked about that at great length. Kenny Harrison is not here,

:01:21. > :01:25.the new world record holder, she missed out on the trials. Anne

:01:26. > :01:29.Zagre, the Belgian recordholder. She is in lane five. And there is Cindy

:01:30. > :01:43.Ofili. The US Collegiate champion. Running

:01:44. > :01:53.here at the Olympics for Great Britain. And Megan Simmonds, 12.79,

:01:54. > :02:08.personal best this year. Speaking of which, personal best this season,

:02:09. > :02:12.12.85 four Dutkiewicz. And in Lane nine, Pederson of Norway with her

:02:13. > :02:21.personal best in the first round of 12.8 six. None of them, Kristi

:02:22. > :02:27.Castlin is 4.6, but there are not many blistering times. -- 12.6. It

:02:28. > :02:35.is certainly a heat that Ofili can go through from, and maybe her

:02:36. > :02:42.sister, Tiffany Porter, pacing and muttering and watching her younger

:02:43. > :02:48.sister. She goes in lane six here, the last of the semifinals. The

:02:49. > :03:08.final takes place in just under two hours' time now. So, Ofili,

:03:09. > :03:14.Simmonds, Dutkiewicz and Pederson. Set. It was a good, clean start from

:03:15. > :03:24.Ofili. The Jamaican, Simmonds, going well. Ofili is coming back. It is

:03:25. > :03:30.the American, Castlin, and Ofili. I think Nikkita Holder took a fall.

:03:31. > :03:39.4.6 four. There was a gap back to third. We are watching the time is

:03:40. > :03:47.coming in -- 12.64. Her younger sister is through with 12.71, and I

:03:48. > :03:51.think she might be all right. Famous last words, of course, and Tiffany

:03:52. > :03:56.Porter is through to the final. All is well and right with the world.

:03:57. > :04:01.She and her younger sister are both through to the final of the women's

:04:02. > :04:08.hundred metre hurdles. What was the worry about? I don't know. I was

:04:09. > :04:14.watching Steve's phase. But no, there was a lot of mess going on --

:04:15. > :04:20.face. Look at the clashes and collisions. People falling over.

:04:21. > :04:23.People drop. Look. You miss all of that because everything else was

:04:24. > :04:27.happening out front. And I think a lot of the athletes are having

:04:28. > :04:32.problems with the track, because it is a very hard track, which makes it

:04:33. > :04:35.fast indeed, and that is why they are struggling, because you get

:04:36. > :04:38.thrown onto the hurdle and if you make a mistake it seems catastrophic

:04:39. > :04:42.and we have seen this in the men's and women's events. That is what

:04:43. > :04:47.happened to the Jamaican, Megan Simmonds, she was out of short but

:04:48. > :04:51.she was in prime position and then she was knocked back by the

:04:52. > :04:56.barriers. And that is the reason why we have not seen some of the fastest

:04:57. > :05:05.times. We have certainly seen an active race, that is for sure.

:05:06. > :05:11.Castlin, of course, we expect to go through, but what a run by Cindy and

:05:12. > :05:18.12.71 is good. Reaction from Ofili at she goes through, and looking for

:05:19. > :05:22.the time, yes, I have worked to do, leave me alone, I am busy. She is

:05:23. > :05:26.off to go and warm down and then walk up again because of the final

:05:27. > :05:31.in a couple of hours, and then boats it sisters will be in the final --

:05:32. > :05:36.and then both sisters. And Cindy Ofili is talking to fill. Well,

:05:37. > :05:42.Cindy, well done, through to the semi-final. Tell me about the race.

:05:43. > :05:46.I didn't have the best start but I am excited for the final. You must

:05:47. > :05:51.have been pleased that you lived up to the pressure. Yes, for sure. I am

:05:52. > :05:57.happy with it. And your sister has made it as well. You are both

:05:58. > :06:01.through. I am so happy. Can you tell us what it means for the family,

:06:02. > :06:06.both of you in the final in a couple of hours? It is amazing. Enjoy the

:06:07. > :06:20.occasion. I wish you all the best. Thank you so much. STUDIO: That was

:06:21. > :06:24.never a foregone conclusion. It was a very competitive field. Lots can

:06:25. > :06:29.go wrong. Fantastic to have both sisters in the final. It will take

:06:30. > :06:34.place at the end of the session this evening. I am delighted for them

:06:35. > :06:40.both. And the job is that she has to go and resettle. That nervous energy

:06:41. > :06:46.she has expended to prepare for that final. She have to go and sit down,

:06:47. > :06:51.calm down and think about the race, where things went wrong, she got out

:06:52. > :06:54.really well, just holding the form. Let's look at her race and what she

:06:55. > :07:01.have to do to to correct the things that might improve a couple of

:07:02. > :07:13.hundreds or the second. We know that Tiffany is a really good start at --

:07:14. > :07:18.a couple of hundredths of a second. It was about keeping the technique

:07:19. > :07:23.together. We know the end of a race is not her strength, but when she

:07:24. > :07:26.does connect it and when it does come together she is able to take

:07:27. > :07:32.medals because we have seen that from her. So, Cindy looks stronger

:07:33. > :07:37.at the moment, she has been strong all year. Would you tip her for a

:07:38. > :07:42.medal? It will be tough. The Americans have been running so well,

:07:43. > :07:48.and all three are through, which is rare, but Cindy is good at starting

:07:49. > :07:51.and she has run a solid race. The Jamaican was really rolling and then

:07:52. > :08:00.unfortunately tumbled. It was fortunate for Cindy. She gets in.

:08:01. > :08:04.And Kristi Castlin, one of the best in the world, so that will boost

:08:05. > :08:10.confidence. She has been really solid. She will certainly go in with

:08:11. > :08:14.confidence. She has been running really fast consistently this year.

:08:15. > :08:23.She could be in a medal position. Once you are in the final you have a

:08:24. > :08:28.chance of a medal. This must be one of the Americans' strongest events.

:08:29. > :08:32.They have three girls. They were supposed to take the clean sweep in

:08:33. > :08:38.the last World Championships. They might do it this time around. We

:08:39. > :08:42.don't have Kenny Harrison, the world recordholder, which she got at the

:08:43. > :08:47.Anniversary Games in London, and it is a shame she can't mix with the

:08:48. > :08:50.field. And as you say, they asked so unpredictable, which might explain

:08:51. > :08:55.why the USA didn't win a medal for the first time in history in the 110

:08:56. > :08:59.metre hurdles last night. So much can go right and so much can go

:09:00. > :09:06.wrong and that proved of course in the second heat. And they have had a

:09:07. > :09:10.really good season, this young girl, she is new to the event, and this

:09:11. > :09:15.was just a horrible fall. She was going really well, she was about to

:09:16. > :09:21.take the lead and then she just clashes into the second to last

:09:22. > :09:26.hurdle and the reaction says it all. Just devastated. This was her

:09:27. > :09:30.opportunity. She came to the US trials, try to make the team and

:09:31. > :09:43.didn't, which was tough for her at 19, but she made the porter Ricoh

:09:44. > :09:51.team -- porter -- Porto Rican team. That was an amazing opportunity. She

:09:52. > :09:58.will take that disappointment and hopefully use it positively and use

:09:59. > :10:10.it stronger. It was a brave 1500 metres. And these are the medallists

:10:11. > :10:21.-- Puerto Rican team. Some amazing stats about this race. Low 157 for

:10:22. > :10:26.Debaba. Take this race and last year's World Championship final, it

:10:27. > :10:32.would have made eight runners who have run under 159 for the 800 at

:10:33. > :10:37.the end of the 1500 -- Dibaba. They could have all turned up probably

:10:38. > :10:41.and given them a run for their money, but anyway they were superb,

:10:42. > :10:49.Laura Muir did everything she could to keep up and in so doing she tired

:10:50. > :10:54.in the last 200 metres. This is a great young athlete, she was so

:10:55. > :10:59.disappointed last year to have been beaten by Dibaba, but this time she

:11:00. > :11:06.was too good at she was not going to let Dibaba run away from her. They

:11:07. > :11:11.ran 56.8 from the 700 to go to the 300 to go, yes, 56.8 and kept going

:11:12. > :11:23.almost at that pace over the last 300. Strength, speed and a very

:11:24. > :12:07.competitive nature, Kipyegon, the Olympic champion from Kenya.

:12:08. > :12:35.KENYAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS. APPLAUSE. A brilliant gold medal for

:12:36. > :12:40.Kipyegon, and well done Jenny Simpson for the USA, now a bronze at

:12:41. > :12:44.the Olympic Games, she is an excellent athlete and such a role

:12:45. > :12:52.model for many of the non- African 1500 metre runners. Well done to

:12:53. > :12:55.her. Laura Muir holding up the great tradition for Britain in the

:12:56. > :13:00.distance event of the women's 1500, which was so difficult is year, and

:13:01. > :13:10.they came seventh and 11th, the British women respectively. STUDIO:

:13:11. > :13:16.Well, Great Britain has two met women in the long jump final, and

:13:17. > :13:21.that lady, Jazmin Sawyers, five foot three, silver-medallist in the

:13:22. > :13:26.junior Olympic bobsled team, in the Winter Olympics, a silver-medallist

:13:27. > :13:29.in the long jump and the European Championships, she has wide ranging

:13:30. > :13:36.interests, so she is not your average long jumper, let's say.

:13:37. > :13:41.Jazmin Sawyers is having a good season so far, jumping in excess of

:13:42. > :13:46.6.6 in summer, 6.42 was her best until now at an look at that, well,

:13:47. > :13:52.that will get her a place in the team for the Olympic Games. To

:13:53. > :13:57.guarantee my sport here I needed to jump over 6.7 and come in the top

:13:58. > :14:01.two and I did both, so I made it happened when it counted, and that

:14:02. > :14:06.was amazing, the whole experience, knowing that I was coming here and,

:14:07. > :14:16.again, pulling out the performance when it was important, and nothing

:14:17. > :14:21.is more important than the Olympics. Five foot three. I am really not

:14:22. > :14:28.fall. People are like, aren't you meant to be tall? And I am like,

:14:29. > :14:34.yeah, and I have to be fast, and I have to be springy. They talk about

:14:35. > :14:40.you as a fashion icon? I don't know how that happened. I read that.

:14:41. > :14:43.Instantly I scrawled to the top of the article to see he had written

:14:44. > :14:47.it, because there is no way they would have chosen me, so I don't

:14:48. > :14:53.know where it has come from, but apparently someone at Vogue thinks I

:14:54. > :14:56.am fashionable. LAUGHTER. Sawyers progressing to tomorrow's

:14:57. > :15:02.final. What would you be happy to go home with? If I don't John Meis

:15:03. > :15:05.personal best I am not doing my personal best, because being

:15:06. > :15:10.competitive when it matters is a trait I am proud of -- if I don't

:15:11. > :15:13.jump my personal best. This is the bigger stage, the greatest show on

:15:14. > :15:18.earth and if I don't produce my best, I won't be happy, so I want to

:15:19. > :15:22.get further than I have and I can say, coat, once we have done that,

:15:23. > :15:28.then I can play. I like to get the crowd involved. I enjoy myself and

:15:29. > :15:31.that is when the best performances come. I want to be able to take off

:15:32. > :15:41.the pressure and enjoy it for what it is. At the moment she is bouncing

:15:42. > :15:48.around, enjoying the announcement for the long jumpers, that is what

:15:49. > :15:54.they do for all events, they get out the samba band and she is a delight

:15:55. > :15:58.to look at with that big beaming smile, she loves being here, and she

:15:59. > :16:03.is so bouncy that, Michael Johnson, you could forgive her for thinking

:16:04. > :16:10.she was a gymnast, but as you get close you realise it is Sawyers, but

:16:11. > :16:13.she could be a gymnast. She has broad shoulders and hopefully she

:16:14. > :16:18.can pull it out today. Let's go to Steve and assess the field. She is

:16:19. > :16:22.by no means the jumper in the field with the longest distance, but she

:16:23. > :16:28.is a great competitor. She has said it in her interview. She wants to do

:16:29. > :16:33.her best when it matters. She loves competing and has such an endearing

:16:34. > :16:37.personality. She talked about her personal best, 6.75 metres. You

:16:38. > :16:39.can't help think she will need all of that and some more to get in

:16:40. > :16:53.amongst the medals potentially. successive seasons of silver medals.

:16:54. > :16:58.Look at her warming up, she is bouncing around, smiling, she is

:16:59. > :17:02.thriving. That is great to see. Just hoping she can transfer all of that

:17:03. > :17:09.bounce and energy and optimism onto the runway. I am looking forward to

:17:10. > :17:15.it. Britain's other representative is Lorraine Dougan. She qualified at

:17:16. > :17:22.six metres, 65 centimetres. She is getting into it as well, enjoying

:17:23. > :17:27.the Samba. Yes, the world indoor bronze medallist. Entertaining the

:17:28. > :17:38.crowd. It is warm tonight, no wind to speak of. Perfect long jumping

:17:39. > :17:41.conditions. Two Brits involved. To have to British athletes in an

:17:42. > :17:47.Olympic final will be great to watch. Brittney Reese is the athlete

:17:48. > :17:52.with the biggest lifetime best, seven metres in 31 centimetres. Is

:17:53. > :17:56.she the one they will all be chasing, the one with gold in her

:17:57. > :18:02.sights? Without a shadow of a doubt. Brittney Reese has jumped a jump

:18:03. > :18:06.that was the longest in 14 years, winning the US trials. There was

:18:07. > :18:16.talk of a clean sweep for the Americans. I think Brittney Reese is

:18:17. > :18:18.the best of them, absolutely. But the two British athletes, we have

:18:19. > :18:24.seen it tonight in the hurdles, anything can happen. If you are in

:18:25. > :18:28.the final, you are in the mix. Thank you, Steve. We will check in with

:18:29. > :18:35.you across the evening. I wonder if I can hire that samba band to bring

:18:36. > :18:40.us into the studio of an evening. You would like that, Michael. I

:18:41. > :18:45.think we had enough with the all 18 introduction. -- all A-Team

:18:46. > :18:52.introduction. Let's just stay focused. Well, no killing moths

:18:53. > :18:57.them. Let's review what went on this morning. It was dominated by

:18:58. > :19:00.distance on the track. The heat was sweltering. Not comfortable for lots

:19:01. > :19:07.of the athletes. Jess Creighton has rounded it up for us.

:19:08. > :19:10.With three Olympic titles already under his belt Mo Farah began his

:19:11. > :19:16.quest to defend his 5000 metres crown. COMMENTATOR: Here we go again

:19:17. > :19:22.with Mo Farah, he has got some familiar figures in this heat. The

:19:23. > :19:26.top five will go through. He is going the long way around, he wants

:19:27. > :19:33.to be a bit close. Once again, Mo Farah is in trouble! Be careful, Mo,

:19:34. > :19:37.get on the outside! All you have to do is run. That is dangerous. He

:19:38. > :19:43.cannot do anything about it but he needs to be a bit more careful. He

:19:44. > :19:46.fell in the final of the ten, he was tripped with one lap to go, and if

:19:47. > :19:52.he had fallen there his Olympic double dream would have the nerve

:19:53. > :19:56.completely. -- would have been over completely. He has qualified, he has

:19:57. > :20:02.done it the hard way, now just go away, Mo, and relax a little bit. I

:20:03. > :20:07.have just got to recover now. It is hard work, it is hot. Just tough to

:20:08. > :20:12.rest up. Next to the starting line was Britain's Lynsey Sharp in the

:20:13. > :20:16.800 metres heats. COMMENTATOR: Sharp in a good position, two to go

:20:17. > :20:20.through automatically. She looks up to the screen, looks to her right.

:20:21. > :20:25.Diego is there. They are separating themselves. Lynsey Sharp is not

:20:26. > :20:29.going to be caught, she is going to take this with a good finish. She

:20:30. > :20:33.takes second place, behind Lynsey Sharp. A good run, just outside two

:20:34. > :20:38.minutes. Lynsey Sharp controlled that race. I feel in the shape of my

:20:39. > :20:43.life, and I know it will take that to get in amongst the medals. I am

:20:44. > :20:48.really looking forward to the next round. The second heat was won by a

:20:49. > :20:54.woman who has come under intense scrutiny in the run-up to these

:20:55. > :20:59.Games, Caster Semenya. Her return to her unbeatable best this year has

:21:00. > :21:01.reignited the debate about hyper androgynous, a condition which

:21:02. > :21:07.causes higher than average testosterone levels. Clarke also

:21:08. > :21:12.made it through to the semifinals on Friday after finishing third. After

:21:13. > :21:16.the success of Sophie Hitchon in the hammer they will be no British

:21:17. > :21:20.competitors in the man's final. Nick Miller, Mark dry and Chris Bennett

:21:21. > :21:22.all fell short. Not even the favourite and reigning world

:21:23. > :21:28.champion Powell Frederic could make his mark.

:21:29. > :21:35.The ever impressive Ashton Eaton, reigning world and Olympic champion,

:21:36. > :21:40.is used to being the man to beat in the decathlon. COMMENTATOR: He is up

:21:41. > :21:47.against Damian Warner, who has run at 10.15 recently. Warner gets away

:21:48. > :21:55.well, but Ashton Eaton is right there with him. What is going to get

:21:56. > :22:01.there first, as expected, 10.30. -- Warner is going. Ashton Eaton

:22:02. > :22:09.trailing him in the 100 metres, but the long jump ... Slight

:22:10. > :22:12.improvement. Well, he is well on his way now. Looking to defend his title

:22:13. > :22:17.and emulate the great man Daley Thompson, defending his title,

:22:18. > :22:22.double Olympic champion Ashton Eaton looking good. Back on the track,

:22:23. > :22:29.fans were in for a treat as the man's 3000 metres Steeplechase got

:22:30. > :22:33.under way. Can you stormed to victory, breaking a 28 record.

:22:34. > :22:37.COMMENTATOR: Jacob trying to hang on, but he is looking around to see

:22:38. > :22:40.if he is safe of the bronze medal. Picking up the pace, he is looking

:22:41. > :22:45.around and waving to the crowd. There is something of the showman

:22:46. > :22:48.around him, but Evan Jaeger on the shoulder of Ezequiel Campbell at the

:22:49. > :22:54.silver medal. Campbell does not seem to have anything left. Another gold

:22:55. > :23:03.medal in this event tenure. Jacob finishing so quickly. A new Olympic

:23:04. > :23:08.record. The tradition goes on, since 1968, every time be canyons have

:23:09. > :23:15.come to the Olympic game, they have won the gold medal. -- the Kenyans.

:23:16. > :23:18.The one day they make sure they pack the Kenyan flag is on Steeplechase

:23:19. > :23:22.day. Well, not long after the race, the

:23:23. > :23:29.French protested because they said that Kim Boyd stepped off the track,

:23:30. > :23:34.which is an infringement. You can see his left foot does indeed just

:23:35. > :23:38.step off the track. Possibly he is doing that to protect himself, we

:23:39. > :23:42.have seen lots of falls in this distance races. That protest was

:23:43. > :23:49.upheld and Kemboi has now had his gold medal taken away. The bronze

:23:50. > :23:55.medal ceremony is at 11pm tonight. It is worth noting, you cannot see

:23:56. > :23:59.it on the end there, Casey came in a good 70 seconds behind. It is not as

:24:00. > :24:03.though he was on his shoulder. I know it was an infringement but it

:24:04. > :24:06.does seem particularly harsh. Yes, I don't agree with that at all. I

:24:07. > :24:10.don't think they should have made that call. But I think it is

:24:11. > :24:12.consistent with lots of what we have seen here in terms of the officials

:24:13. > :24:18.and how they have handled different situations, whether it is whether or

:24:19. > :24:24.rerunning heats. It has not been very good. Somebody said to me that

:24:25. > :24:27.the officiating here does not seem like it has been very good, and I

:24:28. > :24:31.agreed. I think that is just another example. The officiating has not

:24:32. > :24:37.been great and it affects the athletes. That is ridiculous. You

:24:38. > :24:41.have officials, and you have a jury that listens to the appeals, and

:24:42. > :24:44.they make a judgement call. That is what they are supposed to do. It is

:24:45. > :24:48.about the rules, yes, but their purpose is to look and see if the

:24:49. > :24:52.athlete gained any advantage. And was there something that was done

:24:53. > :24:56.that was unfair to the other athletes? And in that case, the

:24:57. > :25:00.answer is no. So they should not have allowed the appeal, in my

:25:01. > :25:03.opinion. We will catch up on all the other things that happened this

:25:04. > :25:07.morning and your take on that a bit later, but we really need to get

:25:08. > :25:13.down to the field, because the long jump competition has started, and it

:25:14. > :25:27.has started ferociously, Steve? It has, Gabby. First up it is men

:25:28. > :25:31.like Hanbo. -- Malaika Mihambo. She did this in the first round, a

:25:32. > :25:37.lifetime best of six metres in 19 centimetres. The 22-year-old German

:25:38. > :25:42.getting very close to it. The very first jump of the competition.

:25:43. > :25:52.Mihambo has a history of jumping well in the first round and she has

:25:53. > :25:56.done it again in the final. So, that was 6.83 first up, first dibs. She

:25:57. > :25:59.has laid down a marker for the rest of the field to chase. That was a

:26:00. > :26:05.key moments ago. Darya Klishina looking to respond, the Russian

:26:06. > :26:11.cleared to compete after a loophole. She lives outside of Russia. Another

:26:12. > :26:22.long jump, and it has started with a bang. Mihambo 6.83 in that league,

:26:23. > :26:26.in the early stages. Three jumps and then the top eight will get another

:26:27. > :26:31.three. 14 centimetres to spare for the Russian, I believe the only

:26:32. > :26:42.Russian competing in the athletics. There was a blanket ban on the team,

:26:43. > :26:49.of course. Jazmin Sawyers, all the smiles have turned to a much more

:26:50. > :26:55.determined look. The 22 your old brick, round one, that is big! Did

:26:56. > :26:59.her left leg just cut the sand there? The white flag is raised.

:27:00. > :27:04.Just keen to see how she has cut the sand. I think her left foot has let

:27:05. > :27:08.her down. Good on the run up, accelerating onto the board. Good

:27:09. > :27:14.height. But look at her left foot there, chopping back. Nine

:27:15. > :27:19.centimetres to spare. Instinctive style. Her left foot just came back

:27:20. > :27:25.on her and cost are valuable centimetres. 6.55 in the opening

:27:26. > :27:31.round. Reigning Olympic champion and huge favourite, Brittney Reese.

:27:32. > :27:35.World leader, with 7.31. Brittney Reese can put this condition to that

:27:36. > :27:46.right here and right now. Has she? Red flag! A foul, a big foul. That

:27:47. > :27:51.was around seven point 20, that would have put out of reach of

:27:52. > :27:58.everybody, but it is a foul. It will not count and it is not measured. It

:27:59. > :28:10.is a big foul, ten centimetres. Foul for Brittney Reese. Lorraine Dougan,

:28:11. > :28:17.after that competitive effort indoors. Round one, she hits the

:28:18. > :28:28.board well. It sounded good. Indeed, it was. It has started thick and

:28:29. > :28:35.fast here. That right foot of hers cost her centimetres. It's so often

:28:36. > :28:40.does, but it pulls her forward. That is kind of how she does it. One

:28:41. > :28:53.centimetre ahead of Jazmin Sawyers, in fifth place. Eyeliner spun

:28:54. > :29:03.Ivanovic, then, the Serbian. -- Ivana Spanovic. What can she do?

:29:04. > :29:05.That is big! She had medals at the last two World Championships,

:29:06. > :29:11.indoors and out. Bronze medallist last year, behind Charlotte Cotter,

:29:12. > :29:14.if you remember. She jump date national record then, of seven

:29:15. > :29:24.centimetres Jurak seven metres and one centimetre. -- seven centimetres

:29:25. > :29:32.and one centimetre. Ivana Spanovic takes the lead at the end of round

:29:33. > :29:39.one. Jazmin Sawyers chilling between jumps, and Lorraine Dougan. --

:29:40. > :29:42.Lorraine Ugen. They will have to jump more they want to get near the

:29:43. > :29:50.top of the heat because there are some seriously talented women in

:29:51. > :29:54.that completion. It is lovely to see one of these competitions, were the

:29:55. > :29:59.lead changes back and forth. It is really tight at the top. Obviously

:30:00. > :30:05.there are some girls in their who have jumped over seven metres.

:30:06. > :30:08.Obviously Brittney Reese is one of those, and Ivana Spanovic is in that

:30:09. > :30:14.class at the moment. She has been really consistent season. The second

:30:15. > :30:17.heat of the 400 metres to cut long. It is the men who are the slower of

:30:18. > :30:37.the decathletes. amazing. I wish they could be like

:30:38. > :30:46.that for every event. It shows the noise can raise. It doesn't always

:30:47. > :30:51.hit that height. They have been good at supporting their athletes. And

:30:52. > :31:00.certainly da Silva benefited from that. We would like to see a little

:31:01. > :31:05.bit more. It is well documented that not all the seats have sold. I have

:31:06. > :31:11.been in other stadiums that have not been as loud. And they can shout.

:31:12. > :31:13.They must have some big vocal chords. Let's have look at the

:31:14. > :31:20.highlights from this morning. First of all the 800 metres. A

:31:21. > :31:27.professional passage through four Lynsey Sharp. She raced well. She

:31:28. > :31:33.looks good. She looks fantastic. She has done the work. She is confident

:31:34. > :31:48.and prepared to take races on if it means qualifying. She is brave

:31:49. > :31:51.enough to do that. That was excellent. And she also features

:31:52. > :31:57.clerk. She had a PB through that competition. She was in the heat

:31:58. > :32:04.today. Against the favourite. It was a tough heat. She had to wait

:32:05. > :32:11.nervously to see if her speed would be one of the qualifying as a

:32:12. > :32:16.fastest loser. I think she was the second fastest loser. She was quite

:32:17. > :32:21.sanguine afterwards when she spoke with Phil. She said there were

:32:22. > :32:28.things she would do differently. Are you confident they can go through

:32:29. > :32:34.the semifinals? We have seen with the men and women that it is so

:32:35. > :32:40.tough. Qualification is so tough. It is tight in the top four of the 800

:32:41. > :32:42.metres. She has a lot of confidence. That World Championship really

:32:43. > :32:46.boosted her confidence and what she is able to do in training. She

:32:47. > :32:53.really believes in herself. She just has to run out her heart. And Mo was

:32:54. > :32:58.on the track this morning. He had a little bump. He didn't hit the deck,

:32:59. > :33:03.as many seem to be doing. He did have a slight wobble. It was a hard

:33:04. > :33:08.enough moment. I would say! Let alone for Mo. It looks worse

:33:09. > :33:13.whenever you see it. I really thought he was going to go down. He

:33:14. > :33:17.had accelerated in the race to get into a good position. And then he

:33:18. > :33:22.took it down a notch. The athlete just behind him hit the deck. He

:33:23. > :33:27.just caught the back of his heel. There have been a lot of falls.

:33:28. > :33:34.Luckily Mo was unscathed. There have been a lot. Not just in the distance

:33:35. > :33:40.races. There have also been a lot of tumbles in the hurdles. We have seen

:33:41. > :33:45.them around the last couple of days. There seem to be more athletes than

:33:46. > :33:49.normal hitting the deck. I think that, I was thinking it earlier in

:33:50. > :33:53.the day, I don't know why it would be in the distance races but I think

:33:54. > :33:58.with the quick track, which we alluded to earlier, that fast track

:33:59. > :34:02.that it is, it is a very hard surface, that makes it quick and it

:34:03. > :34:07.causes lots of problems for hurdlers, which we saw in the 400

:34:08. > :34:10.metres, the 100 metre hurdles, the 110 metre hurdles for the men, and

:34:11. > :34:15.we have seen a world record. That might be what is going on. Keep safe

:34:16. > :34:28.everybody. Let's go back to Steve in the field. This long jump, the

:34:29. > :34:33.second round. Bartoletta, a foul in the first round. That might have

:34:34. > :34:41.taken the lead. The American world champion last year. And ten years

:34:42. > :34:49.ago she first was world champion. She retains that... Regained that

:34:50. > :35:01.world title. She is a contender for the Olympic title as well. One of

:35:02. > :35:08.two very confident Americans. Boom! Bartoletta, one centimetre behind.

:35:09. > :35:18.Jazmin Sawyers. 6.55 in the first round.

:35:19. > :35:27.Oh, it is high again. There is good height off the board. And she has

:35:28. > :35:35.watched athletes jump out towards seven metres. Jazmin Sawyers took to

:35:36. > :35:42.her lifetime best of 6.75. That is really well drilled. Good on the

:35:43. > :35:47.board. She is so good at getting everything out of herself. It is

:35:48. > :36:01.better, 6.69, she goes into sixth place. Well, Rigney KENYAN NATIONAL

:36:02. > :36:12.ANTHEM PLAYS.. She needs to get one in. She is attacking hard. I think

:36:13. > :36:16.she tried to make sure that her foot was behind the board -- Brittney

:36:17. > :36:19.Reese. Otherwise she would have been under immense pressure. Look at

:36:20. > :36:24.this. She just chopped very slightly. Dips and lifts. Her

:36:25. > :36:33.shoulders have come down. Look at that, 27 centimetres of extra space.

:36:34. > :36:40.No one has ever defended a women's long jump title at the Olympic

:36:41. > :36:51.Games. Reese, 6.79, fourth place, to confirm she will have four more

:36:52. > :36:58.efforts. Moguenara of Germany. Her teammate has taken the lead early

:36:59. > :37:05.on. Moguenara, 6.61 in the first round. That was a big stutter and

:37:06. > :37:11.that has to be a foul. I think she put in a couple of extra strides.

:37:12. > :37:20.Athletes have marks and almost hit the same spot. And that is what

:37:21. > :37:26.Lorraine is going to want to do as she prepares herself. Asking the

:37:27. > :37:32.crowd to join in, as they do. Well then, Ugen. 6.9 to her best from

:37:33. > :37:39.last year and oh, she would like to do that again now. She accelerates

:37:40. > :37:47.hard, but no. Not quite sure what happened there. It just seemed to

:37:48. > :37:57.fall apart. It is, of course, -2, it is a foul. So, Ugen's 6.56 in the

:37:58. > :38:00.first round, 10th place, she will have to improve on that because only

:38:01. > :38:15.the top eight get the final three jumps. So at the moment it is

:38:16. > :38:22.Sopanovic who is first up, in the lead by one centimetre. She led the

:38:23. > :38:30.World Championships last year for a while but then saw Bartoletta

:38:31. > :38:40.go-ahead of her -- Spanovic. She knows she will to extend this.

:38:41. > :38:47.Spanovic... Hugely capable. 7.1 metres her lifetime best. Big

:38:48. > :38:51.strides, turning to sprinting strides on the runway, huge

:38:52. > :38:56.acceleration, that is big! That is a long way but it is a red flag. That

:38:57. > :39:01.is a shame. Interesting to see how far. Well, it is significant. I

:39:02. > :39:05.suppose if you are in the lead, you are given the chance to really go

:39:06. > :39:22.for it and take the risk to get a big jump out, Spanovic foul. And

:39:23. > :39:25.here is Lorraine Ugen. Lorraine Ugen, she will be a little bit

:39:26. > :39:31.disappointed with that, she has to get herself together. She knows that

:39:32. > :39:36.she can jump 6.9 three. On the track, you have the early heats of

:39:37. > :39:43.the men's 400 metres decathlon, the last of the day for them. And in the

:39:44. > :39:46.final heat, it goes in order of speed and personal best, Ashton

:39:47. > :39:50.Eaton leading the way in the competition, the Olympic champion of

:39:51. > :39:53.course and world champion hoping to retain his Olympic title, so to

:39:54. > :40:00.bring you through the story of the day so far, Steve Batley. It has

:40:01. > :40:05.been a warm day for the decathlon and they started first thing this

:40:06. > :40:11.morning in the sunshine. Damian Warner from Canada was leading

:40:12. > :40:15.Ashton Eaton in the first event. As expected, Ashton Eaton went to the

:40:16. > :40:19.long jump for his second round attempt, after 7.9 in the first

:40:20. > :40:22.round, and he improved it with that in the second round, 7.94, further

:40:23. > :40:30.than last year when he broke his own world record. So he was looking good

:40:31. > :40:37.after two events. This was his third attempt and his best of that

:40:38. > :40:46.competition. Second of ten. 6.7 that was. He is trying to give Ashton

:40:47. > :40:54.Eaton something to sing -- think about. And in the shotput, 14.73,

:40:55. > :41:04.better last year. And water in round three did this. -- Warner. 13.6 six.

:41:05. > :41:17.So, then the athletes moved across to the high jump. -- 13.66. This is

:41:18. > :41:28.2.01. The third time of asking. He matched what he did last year.

:41:29. > :41:35.Damian Warner was better, though, with 2.04. The Canadian managed to

:41:36. > :41:45.go clear. So it is not all going Eaton that's way. What about this,

:41:46. > :41:49.the United States, Jeremy with this clearance in the high jump, a

:41:50. > :41:55.massive clearance of 2.19, with a best of 2.25, so we knew he would be

:41:56. > :42:02.good but he has shot up into the bronze medal position after that

:42:03. > :42:07.jump. Fourth event with just the 400 metres to come, so here is the

:42:08. > :42:11.standings. Ashton Eaton just 27 points shy where he was in his world

:42:12. > :42:20.record attempt, his successful world record last year, 50 points ahead

:42:21. > :42:27.and it is 77 point, in fact, cleared the first four. The Frenchman had an

:42:28. > :42:31.excellent first day. Here is Eaton getting ready for his 400 metres to

:42:32. > :42:37.conclude the first day of the decathlon. STUDIO: Ashton Eaton is

:42:38. > :42:41.fairly consistent through the ten, maybe as you saw a little off the

:42:42. > :42:49.pace in the high jump, but if he has an outstanding event, this will

:42:50. > :42:53.bobbly be it. This is it, this is amazing, he has been amazing in the

:42:54. > :42:57.400 metres, running almost 44 seconds, and I believe he believes

:42:58. > :43:01.he can run 44 seconds, and he has been working on that in the last

:43:02. > :43:05.year, and he is one of those people who is very meticulous, he is sort

:43:06. > :43:12.of a nerd, always studying the sport, and so he, you know, feels

:43:13. > :43:17.like this is his opportunity. I think what is interesting is I think

:43:18. > :43:20.he is an amazing competitor and he rarely comes under pressure from

:43:21. > :43:24.other competitors, which might be happening here. It is starting to

:43:25. > :43:30.look like that is happening. It will be interesting to see what he can

:43:31. > :43:37.bring when he is really pushed. Unless you have anything to add,

:43:38. > :43:42.shall we go to commentary? I think, as Michael has said, he is so

:43:43. > :43:47.intensely... Such a perfectionist with this event, and he is rarely

:43:48. > :43:49.challenged. He has to be strong to keep pushing himself, pushing his

:43:50. > :43:57.own personal barriers to get the best out of himself. Just an amazing

:43:58. > :44:02.performer. And while he is so pre-eminent, is it the case that

:44:03. > :44:05.everyone is then against the decathlon rather than being

:44:06. > :44:11.intimidated by him? Yes, they will help each other in pole vault and

:44:12. > :44:16.high jump, you know, they get on really well, but there is a huge

:44:17. > :44:20.amount of respect. He is not the tallest athlete there has ever been

:44:21. > :44:25.in the decathlon but he is the fastest, the most consistent, and he

:44:26. > :44:28.is mentally tough. He is just a supreme athlete. He rarely makes

:44:29. > :44:36.mistakes. And when the comeback after the race, I want to know why

:44:37. > :44:44.we don't have any men at the moment in the decathlon. We had such a rich

:44:45. > :44:50.period with Thompson, but no one at the moment representing Great

:44:51. > :44:57.Britain. We will watch this one man, Andrew Cotter. There are a couple of

:44:58. > :45:01.decathletes for Britain, but not at the highest standing. And David

:45:02. > :45:13.Thompson before that, of course. Damian Warner in the second lane. 45

:45:14. > :45:22.seconds is the PB of Ashton Eaton. And he has run 45.63 this season in

:45:23. > :45:30.Houston. He Olympic decathlon best was set in 1960. The altitude of

:45:31. > :45:38.Mexico City might well mean that goes here. And Damian Warner, he is

:45:39. > :45:44.quick over 400, 40 6.54 with a new personal best this season. They are

:45:45. > :45:52.first and second at the moment -- 46.54. So, the Estonian, the

:45:53. > :46:06.Canadian, Lindon Victor from Granada in lane three. Nakimura in lane five

:46:07. > :46:09.for Japan. Ashton Eaton, he is just 27 points down on his world record

:46:10. > :46:18.pace at this stage after four events. He was a little bit off his

:46:19. > :46:23.best in the hundred metres if that gives you some indication, but 400

:46:24. > :46:37.is his real strength. Look out for Eaton, look out for Warner and

:46:38. > :46:46.Kazmarec. 45 the best for Aston Eaton. Ashton Eaton is a class

:46:47. > :46:52.apart. You can see him moving along. He is a sprinter, a runner, and he

:46:53. > :46:57.is up against some heavier men. -- Kazmirek. They have the quickest

:46:58. > :47:06.times. Ashton Eaton is leaving them behind.

:47:07. > :47:12.are in first and second and fifth place in Ashton Eaton. Kazmirek, the

:47:13. > :47:16.German going strongly in lane eight. Watch the clock, watch the time.

:47:17. > :47:22.Ashton Eaton has gone on hard, he is going to be down a little bit. 46.

:47:23. > :47:34.By his standards, a little bit disappointing. He will extend his

:47:35. > :47:39.lead over Damian Warner before we head into tomorrow's events, the 110

:47:40. > :47:44.metre hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin, the 1500 metres.

:47:45. > :47:48.Good run by Kazmirek, who says, leave me alone, I'm dying here. That

:47:49. > :47:52.is what the 400 metres does. Ashton Eaton is so comfortable in this

:47:53. > :47:56.event, but you can see how took it out of him. As we see him coming

:47:57. > :47:59.down the home straight, insight on the left of screen, Damian Warner

:48:00. > :48:06.could do nothing about what Ashton Eaton was pouring on. Not quite as

:48:07. > :48:11.brilliant as last year when he ran 45 flat over this event in the

:48:12. > :48:15.decathlon. But it is a significant performance on what has been a very

:48:16. > :48:19.hot day. The athletes have been out here all day managing there energy.

:48:20. > :48:24.It has been 35 degrees and humid even into the evening. Ashton Eaton

:48:25. > :48:34.trying to squeeze everything out of that. 4647 points for Ashton Eaton.

:48:35. > :48:41.A solid first day. Damian Warner was down on his best. It was a good run.

:48:42. > :48:46.And equalling run from Kai Kazmirek. He can be proud. But Ashton Eaton

:48:47. > :48:56.stretches his lead at the top, overall. So, that was the leaders in

:48:57. > :49:04.the decathlon. This is another look at those leaders' points scores

:49:05. > :49:12.across those events. Ashton Eaton is one of only two madmen who has ever

:49:13. > :49:13.gone beyond 9000 points. -- two men. Kazmirek improving his chances of a

:49:14. > :49:27.medal. Warner stays in second place. Tianna Bartoletta in round three of

:49:28. > :49:34.the long jump. She is in second place by just one centimetre.

:49:35. > :49:38.Well... It looks a lot. A smile on the face of Tianna Bartoletta. She

:49:39. > :49:42.ran in 11 seconds flat and didn't make the final of the 100 metres.

:49:43. > :49:48.Good running into acceleration there. She's seemed to really run

:49:49. > :49:59.into herself, with 16 centimetres to add to this, to show her potential.

:50:00. > :50:06.A slightly awkward landing. 6.95, taking the lead courtesy of count

:50:07. > :50:14.back. Better then Spanovic. Jazmin Sawyers, 6.60 nine. -- six point 69.

:50:15. > :50:22.-- 6.69. Just ever so slight deceleration,

:50:23. > :50:29.when you compare that to the speed on the runway of Bartoletta. Jazmin

:50:30. > :50:37.Sawyers currently in seventh place. Going reasonably well. She will make

:50:38. > :50:44.the cut. Just to remind you, the top eight get the final three jumps,

:50:45. > :50:49.pulling herself into the sand. Eking out every millimetre she can. It is

:50:50. > :51:03.6.50 seven. No improvement. There he is, is seen by comic

:51:04. > :51:13.getting ready for his 200 metres semi-final. -- Usain Bolt. You have

:51:14. > :51:19.stayed up this late, you may as well stay for this. Put the kettle on. We

:51:20. > :51:24.have three British athletes in those semifinals, Danny Talbot and

:51:25. > :51:27.Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake. And in Bolt's heat of the semifinals, we

:51:28. > :51:35.also have Adam Jimmy, a man who always runs with a smile on his

:51:36. > :51:41.face. -- Adam Gemili. It is a crazy feeling to be going into my second

:51:42. > :51:45.Olympic Games. I'm only 22 and it is exciting. I feel very different to

:51:46. > :51:49.how I felt in London. London, I was only 18. I was very new to the

:51:50. > :51:53.sport. I was just feeling my way through. I didn't really expect to

:51:54. > :51:57.do anything. Now I am coming in and I want to go out and compete and be

:51:58. > :52:00.a contender and be in the mixture a medal. I am coming into this one

:52:01. > :52:13.with a different mentality and mindset.

:52:14. > :52:18.9.85, third in an Olympic semi-final at the age of 18. What an

:52:19. > :52:22.experience. What London predominantly taught me was to

:52:23. > :52:25.believe in myself. Now I come into the sport and I go into every race

:52:26. > :52:30.thinking I can win it, no matter who is in the race, no matter what they

:52:31. > :52:33.have run beforehand. I go into every race believing in my own ability,

:52:34. > :52:38.and I didn't really do that in London. That is what it taught me. I

:52:39. > :52:43.only missed out on the final by four hundredths of a second, which was

:52:44. > :52:52.not a massive amount, but if I had had more belief, maybe I could have

:52:53. > :53:04.made that final. I tore my hamstring pretty nasty Lee last year. --

:53:05. > :53:08.masterly. -- nastily. I was gutted because it put me out from the whole

:53:09. > :53:19.season. I have been bouncing back and hopefully I continue to do so.

:53:20. > :53:25.And it is coming back on him! I was happy to run my season's rest. I was

:53:26. > :53:27.happy to get under 20 seconds. I was quite disappointed afterwards

:53:28. > :53:32.because I thought I could execute better. I didn't execute how I

:53:33. > :53:35.wanted to. But it was a good field, guys who had been running very fast.

:53:36. > :53:39.Lots of those guys had run 19 seconds and I did actually go on and

:53:40. > :53:42.beat them. It gives me good confidence to come back out to

:53:43. > :53:47.training come out here in the sun, and get some good work in. I know

:53:48. > :53:52.that when Rio comes I will be on my best shape and will hopefully run

:53:53. > :53:58.one of my fastest times. Well, he made a global final in

:53:59. > :54:02.Moscow, and the progression seems to be moving nicely. Do you feel that

:54:03. > :54:05.that injury last year, and missing out on the World Championships, took

:54:06. > :54:11.him back a little bit? Yes, as it would. That is what happens when you

:54:12. > :54:17.have an injury like that. That is a pretty significant injury. But it

:54:18. > :54:21.was only one year. I mean, he ran under 20 seconds in 2013, matched it

:54:22. > :54:25.again in 2014. That is what you want to do. If you take the injury out he

:54:26. > :54:31.has been very consistent, which is exactly what you want. Glasgow was a

:54:32. > :54:35.year where he went back significantly, you know, and it was

:54:36. > :54:39.not due to injury. Many would say, OK, what is going on here? Has it

:54:40. > :54:45.bled into this season a bit? Because he is not as happy with his times. I

:54:46. > :54:48.think this season it has taken him a while to get back, as it would for

:54:49. > :54:52.anyone, but I think he is coming around at the right time. You know,

:54:53. > :54:57.we will see here. It is tough to say. Because after you come off an

:54:58. > :55:01.injury like that, especially a hamstring injury, it is tough to get

:55:02. > :55:05.the confidence back. How did the training go back in the fall, who

:55:06. > :55:10.knows. It is tough to say that this year we should expect more. You have

:55:11. > :55:14.had a close look at the phases of his race for us. Yes, and one of the

:55:15. > :55:20.things about Adam is that he is just technically very, very sound. He has

:55:21. > :55:23.a natural ability to be very symmetrical, very efficient as a

:55:24. > :55:33.runner. He has got the right size and build for the 200 metres.

:55:34. > :55:43.Everything is just extremely symmetrical here. He runs very well,

:55:44. > :55:47.he is very balanced. The main thing is how you execute the race when you

:55:48. > :55:49.are in it. They are, he was on the outside of the lane and he didn't

:55:50. > :55:56.get the best start yesterday in deeper the merry hits. -- there, he

:55:57. > :55:59.was. He is not out of position at this point because he is not running

:56:00. > :56:05.the same sorts of times he was running at 13 and 14. He cannot make

:56:06. > :56:09.mistakes. He has to go out there and execute to perfection. To give

:56:10. > :56:17.himself a chance of getting into the finals. Exactly. Out in the warmup

:56:18. > :56:19.area, well, I am not sure anybody needs a warmup area because it is

:56:20. > :56:24.boiling, I think they are in the shaded area. We can see Yohan Blake

:56:25. > :56:30.and Usain Bolt, just chewing the fat, as you do. Looking very

:56:31. > :56:32.relaxed. Why wouldn't he be? You have been looking at Usain Bolt and

:56:33. > :56:39.Justin Gatlin. Let's begin with Justin Gatlin. Justin Gatlin, he has

:56:40. > :56:41.an unorthodox style. He bends at the waist, which is not what you

:56:42. > :56:45.normally do. But it is very effective for him. It allows him to

:56:46. > :56:51.create a tremendous amount of power and downforce. As he is stepping on

:56:52. > :56:53.the track, he is putting more force. If we could measure the force of

:56:54. > :56:57.each athlete and what they are putting into the ground, he is

:56:58. > :57:01.putting significantly more force into the ground. Now he is relaxing

:57:02. > :57:05.because of the very quick start that he got around the bend. We talk

:57:06. > :57:10.about him a lot as a 100 metre runner, but he is a fantastic 200

:57:11. > :57:15.metre runner. Very efficient. I believe he may be thinking, is this

:57:16. > :57:20.my opportunity? It is certainly his last opportunity against this man,

:57:21. > :57:29.is seen bulk, in order for him to possibly take away a championship

:57:30. > :57:32.title. -- this man, Usain Bolt. In contrast to Adam Gemili and Justin

:57:33. > :57:38.Gatlin, Usain Bolt rocks back and forth a lot. It doesn't matter. That

:57:39. > :57:41.is the point with Usain Bolt. He is so much better than everybody else

:57:42. > :57:46.because of what happens with his legs and his speed. He is so quick

:57:47. > :57:50.and he has such a big stride. What he is doing up top, which is very

:57:51. > :57:55.inefficient, doesn't really matter. He can afford to do that. The other

:57:56. > :57:59.guys can't afford to do that. That is the contrast and the difference

:58:00. > :58:03.between the three. Sean Merrett, of course, he was not very happy with

:58:04. > :58:08.his medal for the 100 metres. He really thought that he would have a

:58:09. > :58:17.shot at glory. Before 100 metres, sorry. He will be wanting to get

:58:18. > :58:21.himself in the mix. He has got a significant opportunity here, and he

:58:22. > :58:27.knows it. To come away from a career standpoint being a 400 metre Olympic

:58:28. > :58:31.gold-medallist, a 400 metre bronze medallist, which got the other day,

:58:32. > :58:36.and then to bring home any sort of medal in the 200 metres, he has been

:58:37. > :58:40.a 400 metre run-up role of his career, which dates back to 2005,

:58:41. > :58:44.that will be significant and he will be aware of that. He is a good

:58:45. > :58:49.position, a dangerous position the others. Nobody is going to say, old,

:58:50. > :58:52.it is Sean Merrett, I can't believe you let those 200 metre guys beat

:58:53. > :59:04.you. That will never happen. It is all greedy for him. -- all gravy.

:59:05. > :59:07.Danny Talbot, gravy is the last thing I would want in the world

:59:08. > :59:11.right now. Does anybody have any ice lollies?

:59:12. > :59:19.COMMENTATOR: Well, we have got jellybeans. Salted nuts. Yawner

:59:20. > :59:22.Radcliffe is in the stadium tonight and is providing refreshments if

:59:23. > :59:28.anybody wants any. I am going to ask a rhetorical question. What you

:59:29. > :59:33.think it took to get into the final as the fastest loser in 2012?

:59:34. > :59:38.Bearing in mind in the final, four men ran under 20 seconds. Duncan

:59:39. > :59:43.Blackley ran 19 point 94. You have the answer, I can tell. No, I don't.

:59:44. > :59:52.I will give you a guess. 20 point 35. 20.30 seven. Which is not that

:59:53. > :59:54.fast. Christian Malcolm was third in his semi-final, and didn't get

:59:55. > :00:00.through. It doesn't have to be crazy fast. The big guys, you would

:00:01. > :00:04.imagine, would be. What about Danny Talbot? Or Adam Gemili? Or

:00:05. > :00:09.Mitchell-Blake, to get through? If they are not in the top two, that

:00:10. > :00:20.mate be all that is required. -- that might be. Danny Talbot is in

:00:21. > :00:28.lane seven. Christophe Lemaitre had his best the other year, 19.8 zero.

:00:29. > :00:32.A brilliant run in the heats the Daniel Talbot. He looked very good.

:00:33. > :00:37.He has obviously got a chance to excel, to try to break his personal

:00:38. > :00:38.best. That is all he can really do against Sean Merrett, who is inside

:00:39. > :00:54.him in lane six. A world record race a few days ago,

:00:55. > :01:05.it seems so long ago now. How about this from Mexico? Herrera, the new

:01:06. > :01:11.Mexican recordholder. A huge experience, don't forget Jamaica had

:01:12. > :01:20.a one to three in London. Quakers back, to make up the threesome this

:01:21. > :01:34.time. Brenner 's of Costa Rica been going very well, a new national

:01:35. > :01:36.record qualifying for this semifinal yet to break the 20s. In very good

:01:37. > :01:52.form. Sorrillo, from Trinidad Tobago.

:01:53. > :02:01.The Trinidad man who won a medal in this event. So, Merrit, the quickest

:02:02. > :02:07.in the field, but it might not necessarily be how this pans out.

:02:08. > :02:16.Danny Talbot in laying seven. Not the quickest starter, not in his

:02:17. > :02:24.current form, Le Metre. The tall Aaron Brown in lane two of Canada.

:02:25. > :02:39.So, the top two, and the two fastest losers from the three semifinals as

:02:40. > :02:46.ever. Cleanly away. Danny Talbot gets a very good start. He has taken

:02:47. > :02:50.a good two metres out of Merrit. Sorrillo has run a killer bent but

:02:51. > :02:59.Merrit is leading. Le Metre is trying to get in. And look at this,

:03:00. > :03:03.Le Metre, well, there is a surprise! The Frenchman gets through and the

:03:04. > :03:09.rest were a little bit Distin. Christophe where did you get that

:03:10. > :03:15.from? Really good performance from the Frenchman and look what it means

:03:16. > :03:21.to him. -- distance. We expected Merrit to do well. I can tell you,

:03:22. > :03:28.Danny Talbot did what he had to do, just, with third spot and a new

:03:29. > :03:36.personal best. He has a chance. Do you think it was an omen? Let's hope

:03:37. > :03:43.so. He is in the third placed position. The new personal best and

:03:44. > :03:54.that was a great run from him. He challenged the Frenchman. He said

:03:55. > :04:05.you have to pass me again. He was not intimidated by anyone in the

:04:06. > :04:12.field. And Merrit looks so balanced, bouncing down the track, full of

:04:13. > :04:16.energy. We have seen this on numerous occasions, when he is at

:04:17. > :04:21.his best, he seems to haul people in, and he has managed to do that

:04:22. > :04:27.again. Well, it was a great start there from Danny Talbot, taking a

:04:28. > :04:36.little bit out of Merrit early, up on Christophe Lemaitre, and LaShawn

:04:37. > :04:51.Merritt looks so relaxed. Very surprising, Christophe LeMay after

:04:52. > :04:57.that personal best -- Lemaitre. Very nice speed endurance. A little bit

:04:58. > :05:01.of rocking back and forth in contrast to Lemaitre with Danny

:05:02. > :05:07.Talbot, but the speed injury and that he allows him to get through to

:05:08. > :05:15.the finish and qualified, hopefully, and that was impressive. Well, you

:05:16. > :05:21.said yesterday you wanted APB. You have a great chance of making the

:05:22. > :05:29.final -- you wanted a PB. Last year and in Beijing I had a PB. Tell me

:05:30. > :05:32.about the race from your perspective, because you had

:05:33. > :05:35.Lemaitre on the outside, surprisingly doing better than

:05:36. > :05:41.recently, try the new through as well. Definitely. To be honest, I

:05:42. > :05:47.had a really good start and then I almost relaxed around the bend too

:05:48. > :05:49.much. Looking at the replay, I was very cautious around the bend,

:05:50. > :05:55.trying to leave something for the home straight, and maybe a should

:05:56. > :06:02.have gone harder, but I did run a personal best. So you are telling me

:06:03. > :06:05.there is more to come off that PB if you are spot on? Every athlete

:06:06. > :06:09.thinks they have more in the locker, that is true for me, but we will

:06:10. > :06:14.have to wait and see. Hopefully I get into the final and then tomorrow

:06:15. > :06:21.maybe I will go faster. You have done so well tonight, well done.

:06:22. > :06:27.Thanks very much, thank you. STUDIO: Yeah, excellent run from Danny

:06:28. > :06:33.Talbot, 20.25. Plenty of athletes to come in the semifinals. Merritt is

:06:34. > :06:41.through and, surprisingly, Lemaitre, a return to form for the tall

:06:42. > :06:44.Frenchman. Well, you might have heard the slight increase in volume

:06:45. > :06:49.in the stadium and that was when Usain Bolt walked onto the track. He

:06:50. > :06:53.looks like he means business tonight. He is not doing quite as

:06:54. > :06:57.much playful banter with the crowd. He wants to get through this. We

:06:58. > :07:02.have seen this a little bit, he has been a little bit more serious and I

:07:03. > :07:06.was wondering if, it you know, how his approach was gonna BNS, and he

:07:07. > :07:10.wasn't thrilled with the 100 metre time, so I think he knows he might

:07:11. > :07:12.be under a little more pressure here -- you know. May be taking a

:07:13. > :07:18.different approach. Thank you, Michael. Andrew Cotter is your

:07:19. > :07:25.commentator. Yes, part of a very strong semi-final here. You see

:07:26. > :07:31.Andre De Grasse outside him, and just outside him is Adam Gemili.

:07:32. > :07:38.There is a smile but we have talked about it, I think he is a different

:07:39. > :07:43.animal now, it is a smile that is combined with the steel as well, he

:07:44. > :07:47.is serious when he gets going. And Andre De Grasse, bronze in the 100,

:07:48. > :07:59.a season best of 20.09 in the first round. So, with Gemili and De

:08:00. > :08:11.Grasse, the fastest loser will certainly be under threat, but the

:08:12. > :08:19.welcome, again, to we all know who. I don't even need to say his name,

:08:20. > :08:24.it doesn't need to be mentioned. Yaqoob from Bahrain with a very

:08:25. > :08:32.surprising 20.19 to take a big chunk off the record. And Webb, he didn't

:08:33. > :08:46.look very impressive in the first round. And the Cuban, Skyers, in the

:08:47. > :08:53.first lane. So, a full look at the lineup, because the two meant

:08:54. > :09:04.outside the lineup with Gemili who we didn't see, the Turkish athlete.

:09:05. > :09:08.So, Bolt once again, asks for silence. Gemili was only two lanes

:09:09. > :09:13.inside of him the Anniversary Games when he ran quickly. And he said

:09:14. > :09:17.after his first-round heat, Gemili, that he felt uncomfortable around

:09:18. > :09:20.the bend. On the inside he was in the second lane, here he is in the

:09:21. > :09:23.six lane, two will go through automatically and Danny Talbot

:09:24. > :09:33.hanging on, the first of the fastest losers were 20.2 five. -- with

:09:34. > :09:39.20.25. Gemili is looking good, but Bolt is moving around. A good run on

:09:40. > :09:49.the inside from Webb. Bolt is clean. Gemili is in a clean position. It is

:09:50. > :09:55.Bolt and he might have got him on the line. 19.79 to Usain Bolt. The

:09:56. > :10:02.quickest time for him this season in the 200 metres. And there was more

:10:03. > :10:09.to come. A sheet of the head replaces the smile from Gemili. He

:10:10. > :10:13.feels he had more there as well -- a shake of the head. He has run 20.0

:10:14. > :10:22.eight. He has third place as well. The fastest losers are Gemili and

:10:23. > :10:28.the other but they are in a good position with one semi-final to go

:10:29. > :10:37.-- 20.08. He has an excellent chance of hanging on. The next semi-final

:10:38. > :10:44.is loaded with talent. Out of the blocks, we were all watching Usain

:10:45. > :10:47.Bolt. My eyes were fixed on De Grasse from Canada and his battle

:10:48. > :10:53.with Gemili because I think they will be battling for this automatic

:10:54. > :10:57.position. You can see when they come to the home straight, De Grasse just

:10:58. > :11:02.has it over Adam. He has faster basic speed, lots of injuries as you

:11:03. > :11:06.can see, as it is demonstrated, easily away from Adam and Eve and

:11:07. > :11:15.laughing and joking with Usain Bolt as he approaches the line in a new

:11:16. > :11:25.Canadian world record -- Adam and even laughing. Well, it was a great

:11:26. > :11:28.start from Bolt. Very nice around the bend, Gemili, and a good

:11:29. > :11:33.transition, but then he got really tight right here, and just look at

:11:34. > :11:37.Gemili in contrast to De Grasse and Bolt and he just got really, really

:11:38. > :11:42.tight at the end. The shoulders up high and that makes it very tough.

:11:43. > :11:47.The more you tighten up at the end of this, the less efficient you

:11:48. > :11:52.become, and it just tightens up and it gets tougher and tougher and

:11:53. > :11:56.tougher. This was an interesting run from Bolt, he was out fast and

:11:57. > :12:00.quick, he let off the gas a little and De Grasse decided to come up and

:12:01. > :12:05.get him, so a little banter between them, having a little fun, Gemili

:12:06. > :12:09.had a quick time. There is more for him if he runs that race. If he gets

:12:10. > :12:17.into the finals and he can relax on the home stretch. So, Adam, advice

:12:18. > :12:20.from Michael Johnson to relax on the home straight and you will go faster

:12:21. > :12:24.and you will be, hopefully, in the final in the first place. I hope so.

:12:25. > :12:31.I am disappointed with that run. I am in a lot better shape than 20.08.

:12:32. > :12:38.We will wait and see. This guy, yeah... , and have a word with the

:12:39. > :12:42.BBC, just quickly. -- Usain Bolt, come and have a quick word. You

:12:43. > :12:47.stormed through and played a couple of games with De Grasse as well. He

:12:48. > :12:52.was supposed to slow down but he didn't. I was saying, what are you

:12:53. > :12:56.doing, it is the semifinals. He said he had to push me, so whatever. You

:12:57. > :13:02.said you were tight after the 100 but you are not showing it on the

:13:03. > :13:08.track. I was a little bit lazy. I don't know why. I executed it well

:13:09. > :13:13.so that is key. Steve call you a legend when you did the 44 years ago

:13:14. > :13:17.-- called. What if you end up doing the sprint double tomorrow? I don't

:13:18. > :13:23.know. What will they call you? When I crossed the line, he said I am

:13:24. > :13:30.immortal now, so I love that. Thank you. Into talk. And Adam, thank you

:13:31. > :13:35.for being patient -- thank you for stopping into talk. He is the man

:13:36. > :13:41.and we have to grab them when we can. Your performance, you are

:13:42. > :13:45.clearly not very happy, and yet 20.08, there is much more to come.

:13:46. > :13:51.It is good but I expect better from myself. And I know I am in good

:13:52. > :13:55.shape, I am in better shape than that, and it wasn't a very well

:13:56. > :14:00.executed run, like I said, it was very tight, and I didn't run my own

:14:01. > :14:04.race, but 20.08, I might make the final and hopefully if it does I

:14:05. > :14:07.will get it right tomorrow. With all of the people that are waiting up it

:14:08. > :14:13.is not amazing so I apologise for that. So I did make my best shot.

:14:14. > :14:19.Thank you for being patient. Apologising for 20.08. De Grasse had

:14:20. > :14:23.something important to say to Usain Bolt but he had to catch him up.

:14:24. > :14:34.Usain Bolt pushed. Stop running so hard, I don't want to have to do

:14:35. > :14:40.this to you. He took the win. Bold and De Grasse into the final. Gemili

:14:41. > :14:44.in a chance to go through as a fastest loser. It have a look at the

:14:45. > :14:52.result -- Usain Bolt. He thinks he can go sub 20. Usain Bolt is

:14:53. > :14:57.through. Sadly Danny Talbot is out. Gemili in the fastest loser

:14:58. > :15:01.position. We are into round five of the long jump, and Reese has two

:15:02. > :15:10.vows on the bounce, so the best so far is 6.79 -- fouls. Oh, it is

:15:11. > :15:17.another big jump from Reese, this time it is white. And Reese, as

:15:18. > :15:21.expected, well, the pressure was mounting. Here in round five it

:15:22. > :15:29.looks as though she has done something to gain the lead that she

:15:30. > :15:36.was expected to do. 7.09, she is comfortably into the lead. Well, at

:15:37. > :15:41.the other end of the stadium, Walcott from Trinidad Tobago, the

:15:42. > :15:48.youngest man to win the title in qualification here today. He really

:15:49. > :15:52.likes it. It is 83 metres. That is a long way. Well, that is easily the

:15:53. > :15:56.best we have seen so far. He came through this season not looking

:15:57. > :16:04.great. I have said too many who were watching... When you have won once

:16:05. > :16:09.there is a bit of pride -- to many. That is a big throw, that is close

:16:10. > :16:18.to 90 metres. His lifetime best is 90 metres and 16 centimetres.

:16:19. > :16:20.Beautiful throw. 88.68 two Walcott in qualification.

:16:21. > :16:31.Tomorrow is the final of the 200 metres and at the moment, Adam

:16:32. > :16:38.Gemili is in a qualifying position. It was important that he finish in

:16:39. > :16:51.third position there. It was very close. He made a deep to get third

:16:52. > :16:59.ahead of Guliyev -- dip. Justin Gatlin going in this race. I wonder

:17:00. > :17:05.if he caught a glimpse as they were waiting to come out of the previous

:17:06. > :17:09.semifinal. That was quite quick. A new national record for Canada from

:17:10. > :17:18.De Grasse. Usain Bolt had to run a little harder than he wanted to. And

:17:19. > :17:26.how about Mitchell-Blake? He missed the British record earlier this

:17:27. > :17:35.year. He was at Louisiana State University. He moved to Jamaica when

:17:36. > :17:40.he was 13. He says he has always been British and ran in the British

:17:41. > :17:47.junior team for a couple of years and has now entered the senior team

:17:48. > :17:54.with a real impact. What can he do here? He has Martina and Yohan

:17:55. > :17:59.Blake. Blake will try and make it at least two Jamaicans in the final.

:18:00. > :18:05.Let us go through them one by one. There is Martina. He has been

:18:06. > :18:10.running quite well this year, rediscovering good form. Close to 20

:18:11. > :18:16.seconds as well. The European champion at the 100 metre. He has a

:18:17. > :18:28.tendency to run on the line in the 200 metre, he needs to watch that.

:18:29. > :18:34.Mitchell-Blake, 22 years old, 1995. Yohan Blake, the silver-medallist in

:18:35. > :18:40.an incredibly quick time behind Usain Bolt in London. The fastest

:18:41. > :18:45.non- winning 200 metre time. Alonso Edward, you can go back to lean and

:18:46. > :18:55.this is the man who followed him home and he was only 19 than stop --

:18:56. > :19:01.back to Berlin. Hortelano, the new European champion because Martina

:19:02. > :19:11.ran ahead of him across the line. He ran 20 point 12 to qualify for this.

:19:12. > :19:17.Justin Gatlin. He was not booed as much at this time as he was in the

:19:18. > :19:26.100 metres. Matera Galvan from Italy. He reached the final in the

:19:27. > :19:32.European champions. And then on the inside, ??MACRO1 of Greece. He made

:19:33. > :19:43.it through to this semi with a personal best. Justin Gatlin from

:19:44. > :19:52.lane three, lanes 67 and eight. Hortelano should not be discarded I.

:19:53. > :20:01.In fact, I have only ignored two of them. It is hard, very hard. The

:20:02. > :20:16.time to watch for Adam Gemili is 20 weight. -- 20.08.

:20:17. > :20:25.And Yohan Blake makes a cracking start. He is going well. Edward is

:20:26. > :20:29.coming and so was Justin Gatlin and Mitchell-Blake needs to stay with

:20:30. > :20:41.them. All six have a chance. Martina is coming through. He comes Martina

:20:42. > :20:47.and Gatlin has dropped out. 20.08 is the winning time and Gatlin is not

:20:48. > :20:53.in the final. I will repeat that, Justin Gatlin is not in the final.

:20:54. > :20:58.He is storming off and he knows it. Gemili will make it through and that

:20:59. > :21:06.means that Guliyev will join him as the fastest loser. Mitchell-Blake

:21:07. > :21:11.did his best. That was a difficult semifinal and it was any's race.

:21:12. > :21:17.Mitchell-Blake was perhaps the only one not in with a chance with 50 to

:21:18. > :21:21.go. It was an exciting semifinal, wasn't it? I think this is what we

:21:22. > :21:26.like to see an athletics when a race with big names is competitive and

:21:27. > :21:31.people, sometimes, they merely forget, people you just forget and

:21:32. > :21:35.they sneak through. Alonso Edward has been a medallist in major

:21:36. > :21:39.championships before. He kept a cool head with all of the big names

:21:40. > :21:48.around him and managed to ease himself through to a final with a

:21:49. > :21:53.time of 20.07. Look at the people behind him. Justin Gatlin trying to

:21:54. > :21:58.stick with him. It will be interesting to see the head high

:21:59. > :22:10.vision, if he is giving up or just tired. Semifinals at Olympic Games,

:22:11. > :22:13.hey? Yohan Blake and Justin Gatlin got amazing starts and blasted out.

:22:14. > :22:18.It looked as if they were both going to take control of the race but then

:22:19. > :22:23.look at what happens here. They all come off the band together and what

:22:24. > :22:27.Justin Gatlin does is make a small mistake and relaxes. He did not

:22:28. > :22:30.realise that they were up on mum. He thought he was the best and he

:22:31. > :22:34.thought he had a lead but he did not. He then tried to get back into

:22:35. > :22:41.it but it was far too late and he could not get back into it with the

:22:42. > :22:46.class of field like this. He ran out of time. That was a huge mistake.

:22:47. > :22:51.Gatlin will know that. Alonso Edward took advantage of that mistake and

:22:52. > :22:58.ran a very good time for him. 20.07. Quite a strange race. Martina also

:22:59. > :23:05.getting himself back in it, getting back into a final. This was a very

:23:06. > :23:10.strange race. Very close on the line but no doubt about it, Justin Gatlin

:23:11. > :23:18.is not in the final. Due to a huge mistake. Yohan Blake, I am sure the

:23:19. > :23:22.issue with him is that he has had so much time off and he was not able to

:23:23. > :23:29.run under 20 seconds and probably went out far too fast for the

:23:30. > :23:33.condition and the shape he is in. He gave it everything he could but it

:23:34. > :23:36.was not to be, given he has returned from injury and has not had the sort

:23:37. > :23:40.of training that would allow him to sustain that

:23:41. > :23:51.Speed. Gatlin walked straight. He must have known and recognised the

:23:52. > :23:55.mistake he made. He is speaking to American TV. It was not good enough.

:23:56. > :24:04.Remember I said at the beginning of the semifinals, I said in 2012,

:24:05. > :24:09.20.37 was good enough to go through as fastest loser. That was 16th spot

:24:10. > :24:15.this time. That third race was the slowest of the for a but it was

:24:16. > :24:20.dramatic. No Yohan Blake, no Justin Gatlin in the final. Usain Bolt will

:24:21. > :24:33.head the qualifiers, like always. 19 eight. De Grasse. Merritt. Lemaitre.

:24:34. > :24:41.Alonso Edward. And Gemili and Guliyev are the two fastest losers.

:24:42. > :24:48.Churandy Martina has made his third Olympic 200 metre final from an

:24:49. > :24:53.outside lane. We are in the fifth round of the long jump at the

:24:54. > :24:59.moment. Spanovic is best at the moment. Pushed into third place with

:25:00. > :25:11.a big jump by Reese. Jazmin Sawyers is in eighth Place. That is some

:25:12. > :25:19.jump from the Serbian. Well, this possibly looks over seven metres.

:25:20. > :25:39.Her lifetime best is seven metres. It years 7.08. A new record. How

:25:40. > :25:45.does Bartoletta respond? Look at this. She has produced something

:25:46. > :25:54.special in this fifth round. They are feeding off each other as they

:25:55. > :26:01.so often do. It is 7.17. A lifetime best for Bartoletta in the fifth

:26:02. > :26:10.round. It is not over yet. Very good speed on the runway. She is quite

:26:11. > :26:21.quick. Absolutely enormous leap for Bartoletta. That may take the title

:26:22. > :26:25.here. There are many Dutch people in the house tonight and there is a lot

:26:26. > :26:34.of orange around and when Martina went through there was an enormous

:26:35. > :26:42.roar. And Daphne Schippers is coming up shortly. This is the event where

:26:43. > :26:47.she will feel she can do well. It is the event where she think she can

:26:48. > :26:54.dominate. She has been consistent this year and has not run as fast

:26:55. > :26:57.this year is she did last year, when she shocked the world at the World

:26:58. > :27:03.Championships in Beijing but this is what she has been targeting. She

:27:04. > :27:08.will know that her main competition will be Elaine Thompson and others.

:27:09. > :27:11.It will be a difficult race and I expect it to be tight. She will

:27:12. > :27:15.probably not lead at the beginning but what we will see is that the end

:27:16. > :27:21.she has a long stride and is able to do some Usain Bolt type things at

:27:22. > :27:26.the end. Like what we see him in the second half of the 200 metre race,

:27:27. > :27:30.when he can come through. She can do that over 200 metres. And

:27:31. > :27:35.Asher-Smith, Dina Asher-Smith. She was hanging onto ways to see if she

:27:36. > :27:42.qualified as fastest loser. She made the final in last year as well. You

:27:43. > :27:48.can look at her and Dafne for us. Looking at Dina, another similarity

:27:49. > :27:52.with Adam Gemili is that she is very good from a technical standpoint. If

:27:53. > :27:56.you watch you do not see a lot of wasted motion. She is a great size

:27:57. > :28:06.for this event and she can never gave the bend quite well. In

:28:07. > :28:13.contrast, Schippers cannot navigate the bend well. Schippers has a huge

:28:14. > :28:17.advantage here. Dina, going backwards, has a disadvantage with a

:28:18. > :28:23.shorter stride and without having what looks like having a lot of

:28:24. > :28:27.speed and endurance or has not been effective in terms of that because

:28:28. > :28:32.you saw her going backwards there. She has focused more on the 100

:28:33. > :28:38.metres this year. But quite good. She got a little ragged and seemed

:28:39. > :28:41.that will tired in a particular race but Schippers is the class of the

:28:42. > :28:49.field and Dina will need to get back to her personal best of 22.07 to

:28:50. > :28:57.even get close to these other runners. 200 metres, with saw a

:28:58. > :29:02.qualification for this, it is equally strong as the 100 metre

:29:03. > :29:06.field. A world-class long jump around a terrific athlete. Had a

:29:07. > :29:14.wonderful 100 metre race, got a silver medal for. Perfectly built

:29:15. > :29:19.for this. She brings the 100 metre speed, is quite quick around the

:29:20. > :29:24.bend. And quite efficient as an athlete, which you need to be here.

:29:25. > :29:31.She also has the ability to pull away from the field here in the 200

:29:32. > :29:36.metres. I expect that she and Schippers will be extremely close

:29:37. > :29:42.coming down the home stretch. The Dutch are making their presence felt

:29:43. > :29:47.here tonight. There is a lot of orange around and lots of chanting

:29:48. > :29:52.as well. Fun chanting, it must be said, and they are getting into the

:29:53. > :29:56.spirit of things. A late night for those young ladies. They want to see

:29:57. > :30:02.their hero Dafne win gold tonight. What do you think, Denise? It is a

:30:03. > :30:07.big night for Dafne and Holland. They will stayed up to watch this

:30:08. > :30:10.because she is a poster girl. She has brought everyone together

:30:11. > :30:15.tonight because they believe that she has a realistic opportunity of

:30:16. > :30:19.gaining an Olympic title. It is incredible, the transformation she

:30:20. > :30:28.has made over the last few years and she is ready. She ran 21.96 in the

:30:29. > :30:36.semifinal so she will be difficult to beat. Denise was dressed tonight

:30:37. > :30:42.to support Dafne. She is in Orange. Michael is wearing blue. Is this a

:30:43. > :30:47.head to head? I trained for a while in Holland so this is a bit of a nod

:30:48. > :30:55.for them. Let's handover now for the 200 metre final. Looking as if this

:30:56. > :31:01.could be an all-time classic here. Do not forget Dina Asher-Smith, from

:31:02. > :31:07.Great Britain, she is in this in lane two. By her own admission not

:31:08. > :31:11.running particularly well, not as well she would like more as well she

:31:12. > :31:28.did last year but she is in the final.

:31:29. > :31:37.Ahye of Trinidad, they have never had a finalist. There are the guys.

:31:38. > :31:46.Oh, they need to swap seats, don't they? I think the guy with the G is

:31:47. > :31:56.not paying attention. Come on, G, where are you? He is deeply opposed.

:31:57. > :32:01.Anyway... You can go back to 1948, the first time this event was held

:32:02. > :32:12.in the Olympic Games, it was one by the great Dutch hero Fannie

:32:13. > :32:18.Lancascombe. Jamaica have had some heroes, a hero of Elaine Thompson. A

:32:19. > :32:24.lot of history tied up in this race, or tradition shall we say, they are

:32:25. > :32:31.all looking to make their own history and Lalova in some ways has

:32:32. > :32:38.already done that. 2004 and 2016. And Ahye making history, the first

:32:39. > :32:43.Trinidad Tobago woman to make it into the final. Well, Elaine

:32:44. > :32:47.Thompson withdrew from the Jamaican trials with a hamstring problem and

:32:48. > :32:53.everyone was questioning if she would be good at the Olympics. The

:32:54. > :33:06.answer is yes. Can she make the double and emulate Shelly Ann Fraser

:33:07. > :33:15.Price, her training partner? Tory Bowe, the US champion. -- Bowie. And

:33:16. > :33:21.the world champion, incredible support for Schippers. Ran sub 22 in

:33:22. > :33:27.the semi-final, quicker than she did in regime last year. And then in the

:33:28. > :33:35.final of Beijing she ran an incredible 2163. And the Ivory

:33:36. > :33:46.Coast, Ta Lou, with a personal best in the semi-final. European share

:33:47. > :33:51.and he, 20 years of age, still in great talent, Deena Asher-Smith in

:33:52. > :34:02.the Olympic final. Great achievement in lane two. And what a surprise for

:34:03. > :34:07.Stevens. I don't being at the beginning of the season she would

:34:08. > :34:13.have made it through not only the American finals but to get into the

:34:14. > :34:21.Olympic final. We have two of the top five fastest women ever in this

:34:22. > :34:25.race. We have the world champion, Schippers, in this event, and the

:34:26. > :34:39.Olympic champion over 100 metres, Thompson, and in between them, Bowie

:34:40. > :34:52.of the United States. The women's 200 metres final. Schippers gets out

:34:53. > :34:56.well, so does Bowie. Thompson going well in the yellow of Jamaica,

:34:57. > :35:01.flashing away from Schippers. She has to keep her insight because

:35:02. > :35:04.Thompson has the metres, and now Schippers is trying to run her down

:35:05. > :35:08.and she is coming quickly, but the line is coming for Elaine Thompson

:35:09. > :35:17.and she is the double gold-medallist! Schippers falls to

:35:18. > :35:22.the ground in deference to a great champion, a great double champion,

:35:23. > :35:29.Thompson is the new star of world sprinting. Schippers did everything

:35:30. > :35:36.that she could. She had too much to make up coming on the bend. Surely

:35:37. > :35:44.she knew she had won it. It is almost as though she has just

:35:45. > :35:51.realised it. Well, Elaine Thompson comes from a little community called

:35:52. > :35:58.Nana Ground in Manchester, Jamaica. 21.78, that is her winning time, it

:35:59. > :36:03.is not even a personal best. How on earth did she not think she had won

:36:04. > :36:08.that? It is almost as though it has come as a surprise, and now the

:36:09. > :36:21.emotion comes. Tory Bowie did take the bronze medal and they were quite

:36:22. > :36:24.a way back from the big two. We expected Schippers to come but it

:36:25. > :36:28.did not quite do what she did last year. She couldn't finish as well as

:36:29. > :36:36.she did in Beijing. It was a great race. It was exactly what you see at

:36:37. > :36:42.an Olympic final. The fastest women on the planet going head-to-head of

:36:43. > :36:47.half a lap. And look at Elaine Thompson, still on the floor. I

:36:48. > :36:52.guess it is all sinking in. She is a double Olympic champion. As you

:36:53. > :36:57.said, I think it was one on this bend. In contrast to yesterday,

:36:58. > :37:01.Elaine Thompson blasted around the turn with a lot of control. She put

:37:02. > :37:05.herself in a good position to strike well, to get this lovely stride that

:37:06. > :37:11.she has, and look how she is easing herself away from Schippers. She

:37:12. > :37:16.knows from last year's experience that if she gets close to her she

:37:17. > :37:20.can outrun her, as she did in Beijing, but this time she couldn't

:37:21. > :37:24.get to her. You can see a Elaine Thompson want that line to come

:37:25. > :37:28.because she also has a memory from last year and she knows Schippers

:37:29. > :37:34.will be charging at the back end. She leads, she takes the title and

:37:35. > :37:37.Schippers, well, that is a familiar finish nowadays, isn't it, someone

:37:38. > :37:49.ending up on the floor, diving for the loan. -- line. Well, it was a

:37:50. > :37:56.very quick start, certainly by Elaine Thompson, already making up

:37:57. > :37:59.the field, a big gain on Michelle on the outside, and she comes off the

:38:00. > :38:04.bend with a tremendous gap, and never were they going to come back,

:38:05. > :38:09.because she was fresh. We were wondering if she was a little bit

:38:10. > :38:13.tired after that 100 metre race, and she didn't look that great in the

:38:14. > :38:17.semifinals, but this was class here, just perfect execution of this race,

:38:18. > :38:21.similar to what we saw with the world record in the 400 metres the

:38:22. > :38:24.other day, just being on the outside, knowing that her condition

:38:25. > :38:29.was going to be on the inside. She never focus at all on the

:38:30. > :38:34.competition, she just ran her race, and you can see her pushing off each

:38:35. > :38:43.step, very, very efficient at the end of that. It was never, ever any

:38:44. > :38:50.competition for Elaine Thompson. So, Deena Asher-Smith scraped and got

:38:51. > :38:53.into this final, looked a little better in this race, she executed on

:38:54. > :38:57.the bend very well, got on the inside of the bend and came off,

:38:58. > :39:02.this is when she came under pressure, but I think that she ran

:39:03. > :39:05.well knowing that she would not be able to compete with the race

:39:06. > :39:10.winners and with the medallists, and she ran her race and stayed very,

:39:11. > :39:14.very relaxed, in contrast to what we saw with Adam Gemili in the

:39:15. > :39:18.semi-final heat where he was very tense and very tight at this point

:39:19. > :39:23.in the race, she was running her own race, running full-time, not focused

:39:24. > :39:26.on the winners, focused on her own race and letting the race come to

:39:27. > :39:30.her and letting the finish line come, so I am very impressed with

:39:31. > :39:38.that, it was a good race from her, and that will certainly give her

:39:39. > :39:41.confidence going into the future. Yes, and for Deena that was the best

:39:42. > :39:48.performance from a British athlete in the Olympics 200 metres final

:39:49. > :39:52.since Cathy back in 1994, when she came forth, so well done to her.

:39:53. > :39:56.Look at this. I wasn't sure that she had thought she had won, I mean, it

:39:57. > :40:02.was clear that she had won. She waited for her name. Maybe she just

:40:03. > :40:08.couldn't believe it. Great reaction. And you know her great-grandmother

:40:09. > :40:12.is 85 and lives in the UK. And if she is watching, if you are staying

:40:13. > :40:16.up late, I am sorry you don't know your name -- I am sorry I don't know

:40:17. > :40:25.your name, but I hope you're having a party. Elaine Thompson, 21.78 the

:40:26. > :40:29.winning time, Schippers' 21.88 gets Silva, and bronze medal for the USA

:40:30. > :40:35.with Bowie. Dean Asher-Smith, very well done in fifth place, she is

:40:36. > :40:42.with Phil. When you saw the list, Olympic final, 200 metres, you came

:40:43. > :40:46.fifth. The same as last year. I am really happy, especially after the

:40:47. > :40:50.shaky qualification. I was glad I could go out and put a performance

:40:51. > :40:54.which I hope... I think I could have done better but it is better than I

:40:55. > :40:59.wanted -- it is closer than I wanted to be. I was tense at the end and

:41:00. > :41:03.that cost me some places but it is a learning curve. Hopefully I will

:41:04. > :41:06.have more World Championships and hopefully more Olympic Games to get

:41:07. > :41:13.it right. I was going to ask you about that. From last time to this,

:41:14. > :41:18.was it a big lesson, or not? Not really. We had some injury problems,

:41:19. > :41:23.so that affected my training. We had to stop four bit. So I am just happy

:41:24. > :41:30.to be here -- stop for a bit. I am closer to my personal best. At the

:41:31. > :41:35.age of 20, you have many years ahead of you. Going ahead, what goals have

:41:36. > :41:39.you set yourself, personal targets for next year's London World

:41:40. > :41:43.Championships? They are gonna be absolutely amazing and I know that

:41:44. > :41:47.the team is buzzing after so many positive results, and my personal

:41:48. > :41:50.favourite was Sophie in the hammer, that was incredible, so London will

:41:51. > :41:54.be good. In future I don't know, I want to get higher up the placings.

:41:55. > :41:59.Fifth in the world at 19 and 20, I really can't complain. And just to

:42:00. > :42:03.be analytic finalist and to be in the mix was great. And you have the

:42:04. > :42:11.relay action to come up as well, so I wish you well for that. Thank you.

:42:12. > :42:18.Well, we have some great young talent in the British team, there

:42:19. > :42:23.was so years, eight in the long jump, well done to her, and fitting

:42:24. > :42:26.the 200 metres, Deena Ashley Smith. She will be delighted. Her mother is

:42:27. > :42:31.in the stadium. So many family members have come. They have been

:42:32. > :42:34.awarded with some great performances -- Dean Asher-Smith. We are in the

:42:35. > :42:42.last round of the long jump. Silly as is eight. Reese can change her

:42:43. > :42:51.position. She has seen her teammate go-ahead in the fifth round. 7.17.

:42:52. > :42:56.It is a big jump from Reese. Well... Not sure what she is saying. We saw

:42:57. > :43:03.her win the world indoors early this year in the last round and she might

:43:04. > :43:15.have just done it again. It is 7.15! Wow, just two centimetres shy of

:43:16. > :43:18.what might have been a victory. Bartoletta, still to respond,

:43:19. > :43:26.whatever this job will be, but at the moment it is Reese in second

:43:27. > :43:34.place. Spanovic, then, in the last round. She jumped a new national

:43:35. > :43:39.record of 7.08 in the fifth round. Last chance to improve her Olympic

:43:40. > :43:46.final bronze. Can she turned into something better? It is a big

:43:47. > :43:56.effort. -- turn it. What an end to this Olympic competition. Not sure

:43:57. > :44:01.what that means either. But 7.08 in the fifth, 7.05 in the last round,

:44:02. > :44:10.she is in the bronze medal position. So, then, Bartoletta, she has won,

:44:11. > :44:15.just having a jump to show what he can do. It is another long way out

:44:16. > :44:20.into that sandpit. Well, look at that. Celebrations for the world

:44:21. > :44:30.champion from last year. Bartoletta is the Olympic champion. Coach Reina

:44:31. > :44:40.Rider up there. We have seen her offering words of support. And

:44:41. > :44:46.technical insight. Bartoletta gold. Tiffany Porter and her sister, Cindy

:44:47. > :44:56.Ofili, moments away from an Olympic final. A special moment. Just might

:44:57. > :44:59.you know, I told you that Tiff is very religious, she has got a lot of

:45:00. > :45:05.faith, fate in her own ability and obviously has her big sister. She

:45:06. > :45:08.wants to be the inspiration for her little sister who has done

:45:09. > :45:12.fantastically well to put them both in the final -- faith. I mean, how

:45:13. > :45:16.fantastic is that. It has brought a tear to your eye and I think all of

:45:17. > :45:20.us here in the studio choked up watching that moment, because, you

:45:21. > :45:24.know, I think family comes here to watch, they share in their children

:45:25. > :45:29.or their partner's experiences, but to have a family member line with

:45:30. > :45:35.you in a final, there cannot be anything greater, can there? Yeah, I

:45:36. > :45:38.mean, it is gonna be interesting to see how they actually handle this,

:45:39. > :45:42.and should either one of them actually get a medal, you know, the

:45:43. > :45:47.other one will be so supportive, but it is gonna be tough because it is a

:45:48. > :45:52.really tough field, I mean, it is gonna be real, real tough. Let's

:45:53. > :45:56.just pause now, because the 110 metre hurdle medal ceremony has just

:45:57. > :46:50.begun. That was wonderful singing there

:46:51. > :46:54.from Omar McLeod. He seems like a good guy. He was so excited the

:46:55. > :46:58.other day when he was doing an interview and he is quite a good

:46:59. > :47:03.guy. It was good to see him win because it was a difficult race.

:47:04. > :47:10.There were so many people falling down and not getting through but he

:47:11. > :47:15.ran well in the semifinals and was able to consistently get through. It

:47:16. > :47:19.is one thing being a favourite coming into the championship and

:47:20. > :47:24.then being able to deliver. We have seen how difficult that has been

:47:25. > :47:28.throughout the competition. That he did enjoy his moment, didn't he?

:47:29. > :47:33.That is one of the best smiles I have seen. And it is rare out not to

:47:34. > :47:41.hear the American announced them ringing out for a hurdles race.

:47:42. > :47:50.Nobody on the rostrum for the United States as well. Let's hear from the

:47:51. > :47:53.new speed Queen, at Elaine Thompson. A remarkable performance and a

:47:54. > :48:03.double Olympic champion. How special is that? It is very special. Since I

:48:04. > :48:08.was a child, watching Veronica Campbell and other races, putting my

:48:09. > :48:12.name up there is a great feeling. You train with Shelly Ann Fraser

:48:13. > :48:20.Price and she was cheering for you. What tribute would you pay to her

:48:21. > :48:26.for her inspiration? She is a friend and training partner. She had a

:48:27. > :48:33.difficult season and I am happy for her. A big thank you to her and I

:48:34. > :48:38.love you so much. To defeat Dafne Schippers, that was always going to

:48:39. > :48:46.be a difficult task. It was a difficult run. I had a long season

:48:47. > :48:53.to come here and I think I shone tonight. And let me ask you, earlier

:48:54. > :49:00.this year you were injured? Were you worried? A little worried but pain

:49:01. > :49:06.is part of the sport. I had to overcome it. And here you are, a

:49:07. > :49:14.double gold-medallist. Thank you so much. Elaine Thompson. The hurdles

:49:15. > :49:18.out so now we just need some hurdlers. This race will be going

:49:19. > :49:24.off in a few minutes time and that gives us a chance to have a look

:49:25. > :49:38.back at how the semifinal heat went earlier this evening and how they

:49:39. > :49:41.qualified. A great start by Porter. Brianna Rollins going strongly and

:49:42. > :49:48.the American is coming through. Tiffany Porter needs to hang on.

:49:49. > :49:59.Rollins took it. Seymour coming through in lane nine.

:50:00. > :50:06.Phylicia George is in this as well as Queen. Quinn is coming through

:50:07. > :50:16.and the Puerto Rican is pushing them. She hits the hurdle near Ali.

:50:17. > :50:21.What a shame. That was going to be the race of her life. The

:50:22. > :50:33.19-year-old was pushing all of the way they are. That may be why she

:50:34. > :50:37.hit the hurdle. -- there. A good clean start and Cindy Ofili just a

:50:38. > :50:44.little behind. She is coming back now. Castlin going strongly. Ofili

:50:45. > :50:51.and they are the two automatic qualifiers. We are looking at times

:50:52. > :50:54.now. There was a gap that two thirds so we are watching the time is

:50:55. > :51:01.coming in. Tiffany Porter is watching as well. Her younger sister

:51:02. > :51:12.is through. 12.71. I think she gave the OK. -- may be OK. And she was

:51:13. > :51:18.and she is in and they are out there getting themselves sorted out. They

:51:19. > :51:22.have been presented to the crowd, they have had a few hours to get

:51:23. > :51:32.ready after the semifinal heat is let's hand you over now to call on

:51:33. > :51:42.Jackson and Andrew Cotter. -- Colin. We do know that we will have a new

:51:43. > :51:46.champion. Sally Pearson, the win -- winner in London had hamstring

:51:47. > :51:52.problems and problems with her wrist. The top three from the US

:51:53. > :51:56.trials have all made the finals and that tells you everything about the

:51:57. > :52:04.strength of American hurdle in and stop and Petrea Seymour of the

:52:05. > :52:10.Bahamas, what progress she has made. Five record-breaking runs this

:52:11. > :52:15.season but this is the woman to beat, Brianna Rollins. But if there

:52:16. > :52:23.is an event that does not always deliver for the favourites is the

:52:24. > :52:30.hurdles. Divas could never win the Olympic title. Cindy Ofili, she has

:52:31. > :52:36.never defeated her exist. Her sister has won each time. But I don't think

:52:37. > :52:41.there is any doubt that Cindy Ofili is running a bit better and a bit

:52:42. > :52:47.quicker. But if Tiffany Porter can find something extra then she has a

:52:48. > :52:52.chance but it is difficult to find something extra when all you need is

:52:53. > :52:57.extra speed. It is difficult that I am hoping that both Cindy and

:52:58. > :53:05.Tiffany can get that out of their mind and concentrate on the Barriers

:53:06. > :53:09.because as we see, time after time, the Barriers tend to bite back. We

:53:10. > :53:19.have seen a lot of clumsy hurtling happening. Let's hope that Tiffany

:53:20. > :53:22.and Cindy can hold it together. A lot of Dutch fans have left the

:53:23. > :53:28.building after Dafne Skipper's silver medal. This is the last track

:53:29. > :53:32.final of the night and Tiffany Porter is so close. We all thought

:53:33. > :53:40.she was out and then a few things happened. Some athletes came unstuck

:53:41. > :53:46.over the final few hurdles and so she is here racing in the final with

:53:47. > :53:51.her sister. A great story. And that is what I need to reiterate. They

:53:52. > :53:56.need to keep calm and run their own race because we can almost guarantee

:53:57. > :53:59.that something will happen. You want to keep yourself in the frame

:54:00. > :54:04.because you never know what can happen. Phylicia George, made the

:54:05. > :54:13.final in London and she is here again. Cindy Ofili, the younger

:54:14. > :54:26.sister of Tiffany Porter who are both bracing for great written. --

:54:27. > :54:31.Great Britain. She always wanted to run for Britain, not the United

:54:32. > :54:36.States but then again the US has such strength in hurtling it would

:54:37. > :54:46.be difficult to make the team. The top fastest seven times this year

:54:47. > :54:51.have been won by Americans. They took out the age-old mark of the

:54:52. > :54:56.Bulgarian, Harrison, when she ran in London. Look out for Cindy Roleder

:54:57. > :55:05.decks as well because she tends to finish strongly. He she is being

:55:06. > :55:12.introduced to the crowd and has a habit of delivering. There is

:55:13. > :55:24.Tiffany Porter. She gets out quickly that she have the pace? The areas

:55:25. > :55:38.Ali. Pedro Seymour getting quicker and quicker. Kristi Castlin is the

:55:39. > :55:48.third quickest in the world this year. America has three

:55:49. > :55:54.opportunities here. Cindy Ofili, slightly quicker than Tiffany Porter

:55:55. > :56:08.this year. And the Canadian, Phylicia George on the outside.

:56:09. > :56:56.Ten Barriers between one of these women and Olympic gold.

:56:57. > :57:03.Out quickly and cleanly and Rollins is already in the lead. Tiffany

:57:04. > :57:08.Porter is going well and Cindy Ofili is coming back in it. Rollins is out

:57:09. > :57:15.in front and surely for the gold medal... She has it. I think it is

:57:16. > :57:20.an American one, two, three. Brianna Rollins for the gold and they all

:57:21. > :57:24.celebrate together. It was close for the bronze medal but Brianna

:57:25. > :57:30.Rollins, a former world champion and now the Olympic champion. Cindy

:57:31. > :57:34.Ofili was going quite well indeed and we will look to see if she

:57:35. > :57:46.threatened the Americans. But Rollins and Castlin and Ali. It is a

:57:47. > :57:49.America one, two and three. The reaction in the commentary box was

:57:50. > :57:55.very different to that on the track when that result came through. A

:57:56. > :57:59.fantastic one, two, three by the United States. They are the dominant

:58:00. > :58:03.country for the 100 metre hurdles at this point in time. That was

:58:04. > :58:11.something we expected. But Cindy Ofili, she was very competitive and

:58:12. > :58:15.to be the first of the Europeans in this race was quite special indeed.

:58:16. > :58:19.I am hoping that she takes a lot from this race. She should get a

:58:20. > :58:24.little bit of confidence and, like you said, it is the first time she

:58:25. > :58:30.has defeated her elder sister in a senior competition. A good

:58:31. > :58:34.performance by Cindy. We spoke about how sometimes things can go wrong in

:58:35. > :58:37.the hurdles and sometimes the favourites do not deliver but this

:58:38. > :58:43.went according to form. A clean sweep for America. But Brianna

:58:44. > :58:47.Rollins smashed into the Barrier and I thought it there may have been a

:58:48. > :58:53.problem. But her technique, where her body weight goes forward, it

:58:54. > :58:58.continues to propel her forward. She is so good technically that she

:58:59. > :59:04.manages to hold back together. A few hurdles fell down on the track at at

:59:05. > :59:07.the end but... Cindy Ofili was there until the end and Castlin was

:59:08. > :59:13.creeping up and got there for the bronze. It was going to be a proper

:59:14. > :59:17.battle, wasn't it? We knew it would be the case. It is always a blanket

:59:18. > :59:22.finish in the women's 100 metre hurdles full is a Rollins has gone

:59:23. > :59:27.clear. Nothing new there. She has been a world champion before. It is

:59:28. > :59:36.an epic battle behind them. Let us have a look at the head-on. Cindy

:59:37. > :59:39.out of the blocks well and reacts well and knows what the athletes

:59:40. > :59:43.around her are capable of. The important thing for her is to remain

:59:44. > :59:46.cool and not get dragged into the race because sometimes when you get

:59:47. > :59:50.dragged into you end up in the rhythm of somebody else and it is

:59:51. > :59:57.very distracting for you. Hurdlers can be rattled left right and

:59:58. > :00:02.centre. But at this time she seems very focused. She is concentrating

:00:03. > :00:05.on trying to relax so there is no tension and she has an opportunity

:00:06. > :00:16.to run off the final Barrier into the line. Look at her, desperately

:00:17. > :00:23.but is missing out. They say that fourth is the crawlers position,

:00:24. > :00:30.Cindy can be proud. -- cruellest position. Something to look back on

:00:31. > :00:35.and be proud of. We heard the commentary team saying that both of

:00:36. > :00:39.you should be proud. What a night for your family, to Olympic

:00:40. > :00:49.champions. So close to a medal, Cindy. I wanted to get a medal for

:00:50. > :00:55.Great Britain. It was a great race. And Tiffany, how about you? I did my

:00:56. > :01:00.best. It has been a difficult year for me and I battled to the end. I

:01:01. > :01:07.am proud of myself and very proud of my sister. Trying to explain what it

:01:08. > :01:13.is like to be in rivalry with your sister. I have said from the very

:01:14. > :01:17.beginning that I want to succeed but I want my sister to succeed as well.

:01:18. > :01:21.We are competitors but once we cross the line she is my sister and I am

:01:22. > :01:34.proud of her full and how about you, Cindy? Is it Tiffany and her

:01:35. > :01:38.achievements that inspires you? It has helped me progress as an athlete

:01:39. > :01:45.and she is such a wonderful person. I am glad we can do it together. And

:01:46. > :01:49.as Andrew said, fourth is the cruellest position to finish in. I

:01:50. > :02:02.can only be happy with his performance. I am happy to have come

:02:03. > :02:06.back and almost achieved a medal. Thank you so much everyone for

:02:07. > :02:08.supporting us. Thank you to the National lottery for the great job

:02:09. > :02:29.you do to support us athletes. So confirmation of the results as

:02:30. > :02:32.the stadium empties at the end of this night, Brianna Rollins with a

:02:33. > :02:36.gold medal, Nia Ali with a silver, Kristi Castlin just with that bronze

:02:37. > :02:47.ahead of Cindy Ofili and Tiffany Porter down in seventh place. Well

:02:48. > :02:52.it's been a brilliant night for the Americans one-two in the long jump.

:02:53. > :02:55.Clean sweep in that sprint hurdles, Tianna Bartoletta ahead of Brittney

:02:56. > :03:00.Reese. Really high-class competition. Here is the standings

:03:01. > :03:06.at the end of what was an amazing competition. Another field event

:03:07. > :03:11.that went down to the last round, Bartoletta a life-time best ahead of

:03:12. > :03:15.Brittney Reese. Ivana Spanovic a national record, there's Jazmin

:03:16. > :03:25.Sawyers. A good performance for her, eighth place. Ugen down in 11th.

:03:26. > :03:28.Well, it was a clean sweep, the kind of clean sweep we expected last year

:03:29. > :03:34.in Beijing, they're in such good form, but it didn't come off. Today

:03:35. > :03:38.it did. Very well executed. You had a beaming smile on your face. It was

:03:39. > :03:41.a fantastic to see, you know. The US is so strong in the women's 100m

:03:42. > :03:46.hurdles and has been over the years. And what we have seen with the US

:03:47. > :03:50.team quite a bit starting last year, or even before that, with so many

:03:51. > :03:53.great talents coming to these championships with the fastest time

:03:54. > :03:56.in the world or possible clean sweep, but then falling short. And

:03:57. > :04:00.not because of an injury, just because they didn't execute well. So

:04:01. > :04:03.great to see them come through, Kristi Castlin there just barely

:04:04. > :04:07.coming through at the very end because she was in about fourth

:04:08. > :04:10.position, mid-way through that race but still able to get in there and

:04:11. > :04:15.get that medal. Let's look back then. And we had a lovely shot of

:04:16. > :04:19.the sisters hugging. This was the American sisters - the hurdle

:04:20. > :04:23.sisters having a little prerace moment. Rivals, yes, but clearly

:04:24. > :04:27.great team-mates. They raced against each other, you know, the trials,

:04:28. > :04:32.it's a fierce, fierce competition. And I don't know, we're going to

:04:33. > :04:36.check with historians - has this clean sweep ever been done before at

:04:37. > :04:40.the Olympic games by the women? Might have been done on the track

:04:41. > :04:47.for sprinting, men's sprinting, but I'm not sure it's been done in the

:04:48. > :04:52.women's events. It hasn't been done in the women's hurdles, has been

:04:53. > :04:57.done before in men's 200m, but the women's hurdles, they always had the

:04:58. > :05:07.potential to do it but never done it before now. And they did it with

:05:08. > :05:11.Harrison. She's at home. This world championship, she's have a - someone

:05:12. > :05:20.would have a by, right? I believe. Yeah, did she win? No, she didn't

:05:21. > :05:24.win last year. No. But because of the bye situation, they just got so

:05:25. > :05:30.much strength, the women's 100m hurdles for the US. It's not like

:05:31. > :05:34.this is an extremely comp ti event -- competitive event as well. I go

:05:35. > :05:38.on a bit about the American, the brutality the American trials. I

:05:39. > :05:42.said they haven't got Harrison here, yes she would have been very much up

:05:43. > :05:46.there, but turns out you didn't need her. This is what people point to

:05:47. > :05:50.with this system - that, hey, these three athletes, and Kristi Castlin

:05:51. > :05:54.really proves it here, that these championship performers, the US

:05:55. > :05:58.Olympic trials is a true championship environment and in many

:05:59. > :06:02.cases, in some events, more difficult than the Olympics

:06:03. > :06:05.themselves. Because of the depth and so the athletes who can actually

:06:06. > :06:08.prove it on that day and that's what it really is - it's not so much

:06:09. > :06:11.about the consistency across the season, but it's about, all right,

:06:12. > :06:16.who's got the fastest times, you end up at the trials and who delivers on

:06:17. > :06:21.the day? And so that - there's arguments for both, but I think that

:06:22. > :06:26.what ultimately underlies the decision to put push that system is

:06:27. > :06:29.there's no much depth, number one, and two, the politics would be

:06:30. > :06:33.atrocious, would be an absolute nightmare trying to sort that out

:06:34. > :06:39.with so many athletes that could possibly come here and compete. OK.

:06:40. > :06:44.Well, that was a great race. A brilliant race for the USA. And

:06:45. > :06:45.tonight the 200m was a fantastic race for Jamaica. The new speed

:06:46. > :06:59.queen - Elaine Thompson. A cleanly away and a roar from the

:07:00. > :07:07.crowd, Elaine Thompson, Elaine Thompson in front. And is trying to

:07:08. > :07:09.get there, but Thompson has gone. 10.72 and a roar from Elaine

:07:10. > :07:25.Thompson. Who has Olympic gold! Schippers gets out as well. Thompson

:07:26. > :07:30.not going well around the bend in the yellow of Jamaica. And flashes

:07:31. > :07:33.away, Thompson's got the metres, she's got two metres and now

:07:34. > :07:38.Schippers trying to run her down and Schippers is coming quickly, but the

:07:39. > :07:44.line is coming for Elaine Thompson. Thompson is the double gold

:07:45. > :07:50.medallist! Amazingly she didn't realise, she

:07:51. > :07:55.was lying on the ground, only when it flashed up she realised she was

:07:56. > :08:02.the 200m championship. In her interview, she credited the heritage

:08:03. > :08:05.she comes from, Veronica Campbell-Brown, it was a nice moment

:08:06. > :08:09.to remember the lineage she's coming from, she appreciates that. I think

:08:10. > :08:14.so many other athletes have been inspired by the likes of Shelly Anne

:08:15. > :08:19.Fraser Price and Usain Bolt. We talk a lot about Usain Bolt, be-Shelly

:08:20. > :08:24.came on the scene at the same time as Usain Bolt, came back and

:08:25. > :08:28.repeated being a championship at the 2012 champion. And a medallist here.

:08:29. > :08:32.She is one of the greats of all-time. And I think that

:08:33. > :08:36.unfortunately, she's been overshadowed a little bit by the

:08:37. > :08:41.fact not only because she's in the era of Usain Bolt but they're both

:08:42. > :08:46.Jamaican and the brand has been built on the back of those two

:08:47. > :08:49.really and Usain has been given a lot of credit for that, but that

:08:50. > :08:53.certainly shows that Shelly Anne Fraser Price back in Jamaica has

:08:54. > :08:58.been a huge inspiration for young athlete. And Elaine Thompson if she

:08:59. > :09:04.wants to carry that legacy forward, will know how difficult it is. It

:09:05. > :09:07.clearly is very difficult. You have to mention Veronica Campbell-Brown

:09:08. > :09:12.as well. She's been a great inspiration for the Jamaican team in

:09:13. > :09:18.recent times. But, yeah, it isn't easy to retain your title. We have

:09:19. > :09:23.seen that - these championships. But she's fantastic, amazing athlete.

:09:24. > :09:27.Good find. We'll see her for a long time yet. An aggressive racer as

:09:28. > :09:31.well, you know, to take on that, you know, Daphne Schippers and the huge

:09:32. > :09:34.support for her and the build-up and everything else, I have just lost my

:09:35. > :09:38.pen because I was excited! But she was a great racer. Let's look at the

:09:39. > :09:46.men tonight as well. Heat two of the men's 200m. Let's look at this one.

:09:47. > :09:51.And, of course, it was Bolt and Gemili. Jo Bolt ran really well

:09:52. > :09:55.around this bend. He seemed a little tired, though, in this race. We

:09:56. > :09:59.noticed beforehand he seemed a little bit tired, didn't have much

:10:00. > :10:02.of a gap coming off of this as he expected. I think he wanted to be

:10:03. > :10:06.able to relax a little bit more here, but Andre De Grasse from

:10:07. > :10:13.Canada on the inside there really pushing to the line. I think that

:10:14. > :10:17.Usain Bolt,o -- you know, being playful as he is, was a little

:10:18. > :10:20.annoyed by that. Adam Gemili ran really well around the bend and a

:10:21. > :10:25.much better race around the bend than what we saw in the heat, but

:10:26. > :10:30.then here is where he really tightened up and, again, just -

:10:31. > :10:33.let's take Usain Bolt out and contrast Adam Gemili with Kevin

:10:34. > :10:38.Grosskreutz and De Grasse is just very relaxed. Whereas Gemili is very

:10:39. > :10:43.robotic and tight and starting to go backwards here a little bit. While

:10:44. > :10:46.he was disappointed with his performance and champions and based

:10:47. > :10:50.on what he wants, he should be, but at the same time, he should also be

:10:51. > :10:56.looking at this point now, a couple of hours after that race or at least

:10:57. > :11:00.an hours, the fact of 20.0 8. That's a good time. He knows exactly what

:11:01. > :11:04.he did and how he can correct that. That's what he should be thinking

:11:05. > :11:09.about at this point. So these guys just kind of laughing down the home

:11:10. > :11:13.stretch, you know. So you wonder what the other athletes in that heat

:11:14. > :11:17.think when they see these guys are laughing and like a training session

:11:18. > :11:21.and the guys are struggling. Look at those guys on the right. Webb on the

:11:22. > :11:24.right side of the screen, just struggling trying to get to the

:11:25. > :11:30.finish line, those guys are like - ahhh! And Justin Gatlin has not

:11:31. > :11:34.qualifieded for that 200m final, which is a big story of the night.

:11:35. > :11:38.Huge disappointment and huge mistake he made. He was in this race, what I

:11:39. > :11:43.believe he did here was expected that, "I am the class of the field",

:11:44. > :11:48.it was one of the easier of the heats, he's on the inside of all of

:11:49. > :11:54.my major competition and relax. He's not that far ahead. He's not looking

:11:55. > :12:01.aside, he tries to get back into it and it's too late, you can't do that

:12:02. > :12:04.in a 200m even when you're Justin Gatlin. Usain Bolt can do that, but

:12:05. > :12:12.Justin Gatlin can't do that because he doesn't have that ability. So

:12:13. > :12:17.here he is again - gets the decent kerb but in his wind maind he

:12:18. > :12:23.thought he had a better kerb. That's not good at all. The issue there

:12:24. > :12:29.with Blake was that he didn't really execute that curve at all and it

:12:30. > :12:33.could be because of the long collegiate season, but what happened

:12:34. > :12:36.now is he was never in that and he was too relaxed on the bend and too

:12:37. > :12:40.tight from the beginning. Gatlin right there looking over after he's

:12:41. > :12:44.realised already that he's relaxed too much and started to slow down

:12:45. > :12:49.and he's nowhere near the finish line and now relising I -- realising

:12:50. > :12:52.I got work to do and get back up to speed, it doesn't work. I think he

:12:53. > :12:57.didn't pay enough respect to the guys in that field. He really

:12:58. > :13:01.didn't. I mean, we have seen Gatlin blast out the blocks. I don't think

:13:02. > :13:05.he did that. I noticed, Michael, he was moving from the outside of the

:13:06. > :13:09.lane and moving into the inside. It was a really scrappy race, and

:13:10. > :13:13.perhaps... Yeah. I think that you're right. I think it was two things. I

:13:14. > :13:17.think that he didn't execute as well as he did and like I said he

:13:18. > :13:21.thought, "I'm the class of the field", yes, you are but they're not

:13:22. > :13:24.going to give it to you and you still have to go out and run the

:13:25. > :13:27.race and he didn't. Taking field for granted and in the executing the way

:13:28. > :13:31.he should. That's what happens. Well, there would be some people of

:13:32. > :13:35.course who would be quite happy Gatlin isn't through to that final,

:13:36. > :13:39.and maybe we won't see him in big championship races again. It will be

:13:40. > :13:43.interesting to see. Obviously we'll see him by the 4 by 100m relay.

:13:44. > :13:46.After that championship. Given what he's received from this field,

:13:47. > :13:49.they'll be happy to see he's not here, they have booed him every time

:13:50. > :13:53.he's come out on the track, certainly we know a lot of people

:13:54. > :13:57.believe that the IAAF should have a rule that shouldn't allow him to be

:13:58. > :14:00.here and they take it out on him. Will we see him at another

:14:01. > :14:04.championship? I would imagine we probably see him here next year,

:14:05. > :14:08.certainly if Usain Bolt decides he's not coming... London. Yes, London.

:14:09. > :14:12.If Usain Bolt decides he's not coming to the championships, Gatlin

:14:13. > :14:17.is going dob here. Even if Bolt is coming, Gatlin still is probably

:14:18. > :14:26.going to be like - I ran personal best last year. Is there anyone in

:14:27. > :14:30.the US who will chase him. Bromwell. He was the cobronze medallist with

:14:31. > :14:36.De Grasse the other day. I think he can push him. The problem we have in

:14:37. > :14:38.the US with the 100m is that we got all this fantastic talent early on

:14:39. > :14:41.but they're not making the transition from the college level to

:14:42. > :14:45.the professional level. They're not making that transition in the most

:14:46. > :14:48.effective way. If you're dominating the hurdles, you're also dominating

:14:49. > :14:54.long jump and tonight was Tianna Bartoletta who put in the biggest

:14:55. > :14:59.jump of the night to claim the Olympic title. And had a great

:15:00. > :15:03.tussle with Brittney Reese, didn't she, Michael? Yes, she did. Is

:15:04. > :15:07.similar to what we Shaw in the men's competition last night. Great to see

:15:08. > :15:12.the lead change back and forth quite a bit, two Americans here that are

:15:13. > :15:16.both very, very good. Bartoletta 100m athlete was that that time but

:15:17. > :15:20.I think this year she really did focus on and point to this long jump

:15:21. > :15:25.knowing she may have an opportunity here. Brittney Reese, the defending

:15:26. > :15:30.Olympic champion who has been extremely dominant, just didn't have

:15:31. > :15:32.enough. But that was a great competition to see just the lead

:15:33. > :15:37.change back and forth over the night. I think what she's done

:15:38. > :15:41.successfully this season is dovetail that 100m and the long jump

:15:42. > :15:45.throughout the diamond league. I think it just paid dividends. The

:15:46. > :15:49.consistency you get from jumping regularly and managing that speed

:15:50. > :15:53.that she has, I mean, she's 10.9 athlete, you know that's incredible.

:15:54. > :15:58.And to manage that on the runway is really difficult. But she did a

:15:59. > :16:02.great job out there. She caught up with Phil afterwards.

:16:03. > :16:07.We spoke last year after that last round jump to win the world title,

:16:08. > :16:12.you pulled out a personal best. The biggest stage of all! Tell me how

:16:13. > :16:15.you did it. It's a matter of just being mentally tough and with the

:16:16. > :16:19.long jump I had to shift gears and not focus on winning but putting

:16:20. > :16:23.together my best jump I could. I was able to do that a few times today so

:16:24. > :16:27.I'm pleased how it turned out. How were you able to block out the

:16:28. > :16:31.Olympic final, you're going to be in contention for a medal but to go for

:16:32. > :16:35.gold like that? I mean, I had no choice. My approach is 39m long and

:16:36. > :16:39.I have to nail ever step of that to be competitive. That's what I

:16:40. > :16:41.focused on today. When you have secured the victory and realised

:16:42. > :16:45.you're Olympic champion, what is that feeling like? I had to take a

:16:46. > :16:48.deep breath because I had one more jump and I have seen people kind of

:16:49. > :16:53.fall apart because they get too emotional but I wanted to end on a

:16:54. > :16:56.bang. So I rally tried to put together good last jump as well, I

:16:57. > :17:01.did. Enjoy the celebrations and the moment, well done. Thank you, thank

:17:02. > :17:05.you. Well, Jazmin Sawyers managed her

:17:06. > :17:11.best jump, was 6.69. She got herself into the top group. And ended up

:17:12. > :17:18.finishing in eighth position. And afterwards she spoke to Phil.

:17:19. > :17:22.Well, your first Olympic final and you have - well, delivered an

:17:23. > :17:27.assured performance for such a big stage for such a big night. I can't

:17:28. > :17:33.believe I'm going to say it, but I'm disappointed. Two goals coming here

:17:34. > :17:38.- make the final and jufr PB. I thought I could - I could jump by PB

:17:39. > :17:44.on the time, I usually thrive in these environments, I didn't - it

:17:45. > :17:50.didn't happen tonight. 69 is a solid performance, but it's not... It's

:17:51. > :17:55.not what I'm capable of. I think I'm better than 6.69, and I'm kind of -

:17:56. > :18:01.I'm kind of gutted. I know I'll look back on this in a few days and think

:18:02. > :18:06.you did amazing and made the top eight, when I say those words come

:18:07. > :18:10.out loud, I have a smile on my face. Every time I achieve one goal when

:18:11. > :18:15.you make the final, I didn't want it to stop there. Dream a bit further,

:18:16. > :18:19.climb up the rank as bit to see where I could do, but I couldn't.

:18:20. > :18:23.For that I'm gutted. But I'm proud of myself, it's been incredible here

:18:24. > :18:27.tonight and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. That's a great

:18:28. > :18:38.attitude. It's an attitude a lot of you share, one of those new breed of

:18:39. > :18:43.smiley assas sins -- assassins if you like. Being happy and smily and

:18:44. > :18:45.enjoying the environment is part of producing something great, usually

:18:46. > :18:50.for me, and you know, definitely helped me to get into that top eight

:18:51. > :18:56.but I couldn't do anymore. I need to sit down with my coach, Allen and

:18:57. > :19:00.go, "What more did I need to do there?" There was no obvious this

:19:01. > :19:04.was horrible. It wasn't awful, it was a whole sight better than

:19:05. > :19:09.yesterday, but it wasn't got there. I got years, I'm 22. I feel like

:19:10. > :19:16.this is not the end for me, I don't want to finish my career as the

:19:17. > :19:20.eighth best in the Olympics. Onwards and upwards. Thank you. Plenty of

:19:21. > :19:24.time for Jazmin Sawyers. Looks at the athletes medal table. Obviously

:19:25. > :19:28.no improvement for Great Britain. US, though, significant improvement.

:19:29. > :19:34.They have upped their total tally to 19. Kenya trailing by 12 on seven.

:19:35. > :19:46.Jamaica on 6. Elaine Thompson adding to that tonight. China on four and

:19:47. > :19:49.Ethiopia on 5. Another fantastically action-packed

:19:50. > :19:54.evening. Hot, very hot that we have had so far. It's been pretty warm

:19:55. > :19:59.but that long jump was really cool to see and certainly the 100m

:20:00. > :20:04.hurdles, very proud of those girls. Yeah, great night of athletes. I

:20:05. > :20:08.think it's been super. Just great to see that people are raising their

:20:09. > :20:11.game, that long jump final to me was great. Two or three women over seven

:20:12. > :20:15.metres, quality. Excellent and of course going to be hot in here

:20:16. > :20:20.tomorrow night as well because it's the men's 200m final. Usain Bolt

:20:21. > :20:25.will be back in here and these sprinters seem to be loving these

:20:26. > :20:29.conditions. And Doyle going into the 400m murderles finals. Heading

:20:30. > :20:32.towards the weekend. You're practically staying up all night,

:20:33. > :20:35.we'll see you tomorrow night. Jason, over to you.

:20:36. > :20:38.Thank you very much indeed. Wonderful work from our athletes

:20:39. > :20:43.team. Once again and Gabi is absolutely right, because you really

:20:44. > :20:47.are enjoying watching Usain Bolt and co at the Olympic stadium. Lots of

:20:48. > :20:53.you are tweeting us. Become a bit part of the evening when I read a

:20:54. > :20:57.few of them out. Lots of them to get through. This is from Ronan - I love

:20:58. > :20:59.how Usain Bolt had a conversation with a fellow competitor as he

:21:00. > :21:04.reached the finishing line. Simon says - this is so easy for Usain

:21:05. > :21:08.Bolt. And Hugh says - I absolutely love it when you have a laugh with

:21:09. > :21:12.your mate when everyone else runs for their lives. Do keep tweeting

:21:13. > :21:17.us. We love getting your tweets. Use the hashtag BBC Rio 2016. We're on

:21:18. > :21:21.hair until 5 o'clock this morning and there's plenty more still to

:21:22. > :21:28.come. Let's give you a flavour of what is coming up in the next hour

:21:29. > :21:32.or so. We got a little bit time of Taekwondo for you, gold medal

:21:33. > :21:37.matches in the women's 49 kilo and men's 58 kilos. And then some

:21:38. > :21:44.wrestling before the big one - the women's final of the beach volley

:21:45. > :21:48.Ball. Behind me it's Germany against Brazil. Going to be crazy at

:21:49. > :21:56.Copacabana later. Do stay up if you can and enjoy that one.

:21:57. > :22:01.So tomorrow, we shall see one of the faces of London 2012 - Jade Jones

:22:02. > :22:13.defend her title. Here is your guide as to how it all works.

:22:14. > :22:19.Taekwondo originates in Korea and combines combat and self-defence

:22:20. > :22:24.techniques. Became a fully-fledged Olympic sport in Sydney in 2000.

:22:25. > :22:27.Each contest has three rounds and competitor can win on points or if

:22:28. > :22:31.their opponent is unable to continue. Points are awarded for

:22:32. > :22:34.permitted, accurate and powerful blows to the opponent's head or

:22:35. > :22:39.body. Attacks to the body can be made using a fist or foot, but an

:22:40. > :22:42.athlete can only use their feet to strike the area above the

:22:43. > :22:45.collarbone. Punches to the heads and attacks to the spine are not

:22:46. > :22:49.allowed. The only techniques per mythed are kicks with the athletes

:22:50. > :22:54.uses the area of the foot below the ankle and punches where the athlete

:22:55. > :22:58.uses the knuckle part of a tightly clenched fist, scoring differs

:22:59. > :23:03.depending on where or how an athlete has attacked. One point is awarded

:23:04. > :23:08.for a valid attack to the body protect or, but if it's a turning or

:23:09. > :23:12.reverse kick to the body it will be worth 3 points. 3 points to a legal

:23:13. > :23:15.kick to the head and if this is a turning kick it achieves the maximum

:23:16. > :23:19.doctor four points. At the end of the three rounds, the competitor

:23:20. > :23:23.with most points wins the match but in the event of a tie, the golden

:23:24. > :23:27.point overtime round is held which the first athlete to register the

:23:28. > :23:32.point wins the contest. Leigh McKenzie with your guide. Now

:23:33. > :23:37.you know how it works. Now is time for the action, it's the 49 kilo

:23:38. > :23:50.gold medal contest first. South Korea taking on Serbia. We're going

:23:51. > :24:05.to join in in the third round. Her we go. Gold medal contest. Third

:24:06. > :24:17.round, 5-2 in favour of South Korea. Who's going to take the gold. Takes

:24:18. > :24:27.a little simple shot to the body -. There's a piece there for holding on

:24:28. > :24:36.the inside. They must enjoying this. The noise is incredible. The support

:24:37. > :24:42.for both fighters. Couldn't ask for a better set-up. Tried to set one up

:24:43. > :24:47.there. She may be short. Good power. Thought had scored it. Almost let

:24:48. > :24:52.the celebration go too soon but the Serb still in this one. So flexible

:24:53. > :24:57.- Bogdanovic. Can she find the space for these long legs. There's the

:24:58. > :25:04.first kick. Absolutely perfect exkug, fires across. Flexed off the

:25:05. > :25:10.top of the shoulder and the Serb takes the fall. The execution was

:25:11. > :25:15.perfect. It did not however land and it's now 6-4. Bogdanovic well in

:25:16. > :25:23.there. Just two points in it. This is anybody's fight. Bogdanovic so

:25:24. > :25:33.long in the legs. Great flexibility, able to get the legs so high. Just

:25:34. > :25:38.keeping the distance. Working hard maintaining good footwork all the

:25:39. > :25:44.way through. Kim having to dart around the edge, going to give away

:25:45. > :25:49.another one. Won't prove too pivotal at the moment, but that pending

:25:50. > :25:54.hanging against both of them. Bogdanovic, how is her fitness? How

:25:55. > :25:59.is he desire? Well desire looks high. She's moving and constantly

:26:00. > :26:04.pushing Kim backwards. Attacking all the way. She knows she's got to

:26:05. > :26:11.chase this with only 20 seconds on the clock. 20 seconds from the

:26:12. > :26:14.Olympic gold medal from Kim So-hui. Takes another body shot underneath,

:26:15. > :26:21.Bogdanovic needs a head kick many the last 10 seconds here. This will

:26:22. > :26:28.help. 7-5, a breathless encounter. The first gold medal at stake here

:26:29. > :26:34.for Olympic Taekwondo. So-hui in prime position. She doesn't want to

:26:35. > :26:39.settle for silver. So-hui on the back foot defending. She's now on

:26:40. > :26:45.the deck. Going to be 7-6 now. Can the Serb Bogdanovic find a shot at

:26:46. > :26:51.glory here? Moving forward So-hui on the back foot. The referee giving

:26:52. > :26:57.another one for avoidance there. 3 seconds left. Can it be Bogdanovic

:26:58. > :27:03.or So-hui. She's got it and going to be seven points each! The referee

:27:04. > :27:09.just checking there that the buzzer hasn't gone. In fact, the buzzer

:27:10. > :27:19.looks to have gone. There's going to be a video replay. The Kiongo can be

:27:20. > :27:26.given after the buzzer if you fell over. The court here from Serbia is

:27:27. > :27:29.looking for one. If that Kiongo is given, it will be a sudden death

:27:30. > :27:37.gold medal potential round here. This is a discussion. Let's have a

:27:38. > :27:49.look at it here. The kick is not the question. The Korean falls over.

:27:50. > :27:54.That will mean 7 points each which will mean sudden death. She

:27:55. > :28:03.definitely falls. All in the balance here. What a way to decide this.

:28:04. > :28:15.Talk about history, talk about pressure. Asking for another angle.

:28:16. > :28:21.They want another angle for a big push from the leg. Clearly fell

:28:22. > :28:25.over, but... This would be decisive here. There's the push, there's a

:28:26. > :28:30.great angle, it's a push-kick, not for the point from the kick. It's

:28:31. > :28:41.for falling over. She clearly does. It's been rejected. It could be to

:28:42. > :28:44.do with the timing of it. Kim So-hui So-hui -- Kim So-hui takes a

:28:45. > :28:49.glorious gold medal for Korea. Bogdanovic could not have come any

:28:50. > :28:55.closer. A wonderful winning smile from the Serb. A superb battle. She

:28:56. > :29:02.battled for it and she came so close. Kim So-hui though, exhausted.

:29:03. > :29:07.But elated. Nice show of respect between the teams and Kim So-hui,

:29:08. > :29:13.she was limping, she was battered and bruised, but in the end there is

:29:14. > :29:17.the Olympic champion from South Korea - Kim So-hui takes it in the

:29:18. > :29:20.very last second. Such a great competition. The gold

:29:21. > :29:27.medal goes to South Korea. Let's now turn our attention to the men's

:29:28. > :29:32.composition and the 58kg category. The gold medal match between China

:29:33. > :29:43.taking on Thailand's competitor. We join it in the second round.

:29:44. > :29:51.Returning kick to the head. Almost stealing a little shot and under the

:29:52. > :29:56.guard there. Three points down coming in this first round. And into

:29:57. > :30:08.the second round, that 3 point gap is still there.

:30:09. > :30:15.Front leg again from Shuai Zhao trying to go forward with it. Well

:30:16. > :30:26.blocked. 10 seconds left in this second round here. Thailand's

:30:27. > :30:37.competitor is trying to come back into it. The second round ends. 4-1

:30:38. > :30:41.in favour of China's Zhao. Well, is Zhao's reach just too good at the

:30:42. > :31:01.moment. kicks in place? You have to cram

:31:02. > :31:04.your hips in and touch your knees over, just like this. That is why he

:31:05. > :31:26.has the advantage. The Olympic Games final here. Last

:31:27. > :31:35.messages from the coaches. Lost opportunity here. As we go into the

:31:36. > :31:43.third round. The Olympic final in the men's under 58 kg contest. Zhao

:31:44. > :31:51.Shuai of China against Tawin Hanprab of Thailand. And it is Zhao Shuai

:31:52. > :31:56.who tries to score with a double. He has the tactic right and the

:31:57. > :32:02.technique right. A double from Tawin Hanprab. Over the shoulder, the top

:32:03. > :32:08.and he gets it. He closes the door and a sandwich click -- kick. Shut

:32:09. > :32:14.the door on their heads. It is 5-4 in just a matter of seconds.

:32:15. > :32:22.Dramatic stuff here. Blinking you miss it, it really is that fast. --

:32:23. > :32:26.blink and you miss it. Sometimes Olympic tae kwon do contests are a

:32:27. > :32:34.bit cagey, it takes a while to get going but when it does, it gets

:32:35. > :32:38.going. 6-4 on the board. 1.5 minutes remaining in this gold-medal match.

:32:39. > :32:42.Tawin Hanprab really going for it. Zhao Shuai, not allowing him in. Two

:32:43. > :32:59.points separating the two fighters. The referee, Conrad Jenkins. He does

:33:00. > :33:07.well. He always takes one on the way through. Zhao Shuai of China tries

:33:08. > :33:12.with a kick over the shoulder. He almost scores. Tawin Hanprab does

:33:13. > :33:23.well to avoid as he pushes into the final Medicare. A great -- into the

:33:24. > :33:30.final Medicare. A great punch. He is not making the final minutes count.

:33:31. > :33:41.Tawin Hanprab not moving as well. Look into that 1-off salvation which

:33:42. > :33:49.could pull them back into this. Zhao Shuai trying to defend for his life.

:33:50. > :33:54.The referee is aware of that. Can Tawin Hanprab produce something

:33:55. > :34:01.special? The short kick whistles past. Multiple kicks coming in.

:34:02. > :34:14.Changing direction, changing stance. Nothing registering. Tawin Hanprab

:34:15. > :34:26.one of China. Can he hang on? You tries to use that push kick again to

:34:27. > :34:31.keep his opponent at bay. Tawin Hanprab tries with a back kick. Zhao

:34:32. > :34:35.Shuai checks the scoreboard, he looks for the time, there is a 2-

:34:36. > :34:43.point gap. Is it going to be girls all silver? The fighter from

:34:44. > :34:47.Thailand is running out of steam but running into Zhao S as he comes away

:34:48. > :34:55.with a glorious gold medal. Olympic champion, Zhao Shuai of China. Tawin

:34:56. > :35:00.Hanprab, so close. A superb silver for the man from Thailand. But Zhao

:35:01. > :35:15.Shuai, he didn't have it all his own way. The ages victorious, delighted.

:35:16. > :35:20.-- he and -- he and Mergea is victorious, delighted. Look out

:35:21. > :35:25.delighted he is. -- look out delighted he is. So much emotion

:35:26. > :35:31.building up. So many thousands of hours of training and sacrifice. The

:35:32. > :35:37.final gold medal here on the opening day of the tae kwon do. Zhao Shuai

:35:38. > :35:44.of China takes a glorious gold. Well done to Zhao Shuai. Remember, Jade

:35:45. > :35:47.Jones gets Olympic campaign under way tomorrow.

:35:48. > :35:56.We'll remember how great it was when she won her gold medal at London

:35:57. > :36:00.2012. Look behind me, at the end of Copacabana, with a wonderful beach

:36:01. > :36:04.volleyball venue is. A little bit of razzmatazz going on because we have

:36:05. > :36:08.got a massive game coming up. A mouthwatering matchup in the women's

:36:09. > :36:18.beach volleyball. Brazil against Germany. Do stay with us. First, we

:36:19. > :36:31.had back to the Carioca Arena 2. Free women's events. The 48, 58, and

:36:32. > :36:34.69- kilogram category. In the PDA category, Ichiko was hoping to be

:36:35. > :36:46.the first woman to win four consecutive gold medals.

:36:47. > :37:04.-- Tosaka. Stadnik, of Azerbaijan, against -- Tosaka.

:37:05. > :37:08.If she can complete the three medals, Stadnik, it would be a very

:37:09. > :37:20.rare feat in any sport. Tosaka, a pre- world champion. Asian

:37:21. > :37:37.games champion. This is going to be a terrific matchup. Period number to

:37:38. > :37:43.hear in the gold-medal match. The last three minutes of this encounter

:37:44. > :37:51.between Tosaka of Japan and Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan. Tosaka, a

:37:52. > :38:02.pre- time world champion, Mariya Stadnik, a 2- Thai medallist.

:38:03. > :38:13.--A 2- time medallist. Here is the official warning this time. The

:38:14. > :38:20.Japanese wrestler is on the clock. 30 seconds, she's got to score a

:38:21. > :38:27.point otherwise Mariya Stadnik is going to take a lead. It doesn't

:38:28. > :38:34.sound like much. What is at stake here, it is a big deficit.

:38:35. > :38:41.Absolutely pivotal here. Stadnik is defending resolutely. Keeping its

:38:42. > :38:44.strong. Just sending Tosaka back. There is going to be absolutely

:38:45. > :38:51.nothing coming out of that one, nothing at all except for one point.

:38:52. > :38:59.That we are. The Japanese wrestler, unable to score in the 30 seconds.

:39:00. > :39:04.Two minutes left. She wants to win, she is going to have to throw

:39:05. > :39:09.caution to the wind at some point in his last two minutes. You can see

:39:10. > :39:15.the Japanese wrestler now becoming more active and Stadnik, she is

:39:16. > :39:23.expecting exactly that. She has got some pretty decent defensive skills

:39:24. > :39:33.behind her. She was in danger of going out of bounds there. Nothing

:39:34. > :39:39.at all from Stadnik. Not even a glimpse of an attacking opportunity.

:39:40. > :39:45.There is going to be something now because Stadnik has got the 30

:39:46. > :39:51.seconds penalty. This could be really huge for the Japanese

:39:52. > :39:58.wrestler. It is Tosaka here with just over one minute to go.

:39:59. > :40:06.Stadnik, desperately trying to win another point.

:40:07. > :40:14.All right, it's not going to happen. We are going to go to two points to

:40:15. > :40:22.one. Remember, the last time these two rest is met, just under one year

:40:23. > :40:29.ago, the Japanese wrestler won 3-1. 40 seconds remaining, gold-medal on

:40:30. > :40:35.the line here. And Tosaka, she wants to win Olympic gold. She is got to

:40:36. > :40:47.find a way through the outstanding defensive skills of Stadnik of

:40:48. > :40:53.Azerbaijan. Both wrestler is absolutely spent. But they got to

:40:54. > :41:04.work for 20 more seconds. Especially the Japanese wrestler. Time is

:41:05. > :41:10.ticking away. Stadnik... She has got the Japanese wrestler exactly where

:41:11. > :41:15.she wants. It is a 2- point for the Japanese wrestler. And it is come

:41:16. > :41:25.with three seconds on the clock. How is that for a play? Eri Tosaka,

:41:26. > :41:37.Olympic gold medals don't get much more dramatic than that. Absolute

:41:38. > :41:45.heartbreak for Stadnik. But Eri Tosaka... She got the 2- pointer.

:41:46. > :41:50.The 2- point takedown right at the end. There is your gold-medallist.

:41:51. > :42:00.Eri Tosaka, a world champion three times becomes an Olympic champion.

:42:01. > :42:10.And Japan continued their dominance and win their eighth gold medal. In

:42:11. > :42:23.Olympic women's wrestling. How about that? That is a lift.

:42:24. > :42:34.It is potentially an enormous moment, in not just the history of

:42:35. > :42:50.wrestling but in the history of the Olympic Games. Icho of Japan is

:42:51. > :42:59.going for. Fourth gold in success. And, in doing so, would be the first

:43:00. > :43:15.woman in Olympic history to win individual event girls in four

:43:16. > :43:17.consecutive Olympics in any sport. Is she going to be able to see this

:43:18. > :43:38.one across the line? Can Icho when this bout and win the

:43:39. > :43:47.fourth gold medal? Doing so, become the first woman in Olympic history

:43:48. > :43:50.to win individual event girls in four classes in any sport. This

:43:51. > :43:56.could be a huge moment here she is trying to secure position. She has

:43:57. > :44:04.got the Russian just where she needs to. Can she get the strength and the

:44:05. > :44:21.technique to haul her Rover? A stalemate has been called. Back into

:44:22. > :44:31.a standing position. Good position now by Koblova. It is a very good

:44:32. > :44:43.point. Making sound decisions. That is equally as critical. On the last

:44:44. > :44:46.90 seconds of the contest, two points is probably the most common

:44:47. > :45:06.point you will see in freestyle wrestling.

:45:07. > :45:21.1:15 minutes to go. There has been a penalty point awarded there. Well,

:45:22. > :45:38.it came up on the board. Then it disappeared. We are back to 2-1. In

:45:39. > :45:44.this gold-medal bout. She has got one minute to go. We have seen a lot

:45:45. > :45:54.of bouts in the women's wrestling decided in the final few seconds.

:45:55. > :45:59.The last 45 seconds. The lead is the 23-year-old, the wrestler in blue,

:46:00. > :46:08.close in on the Olympic gold medal at the moment. Can she do it? Icho

:46:09. > :46:11.went for the leg. She has got the lead again. Icho trying to turn it

:46:12. > :46:20.around, trying to convert something out of this. Defence turning into a

:46:21. > :46:23.tack. All corners here, the last few seconds. Icho tries to turn around

:46:24. > :46:30.here, trying to get a score out of this. Can she do it? We're watching

:46:31. > :46:34.entered into the last few seconds. Icho has a grip here. It looks as

:46:35. > :46:37.though she has secured it right before the very end. Absolutely

:46:38. > :46:53.extraordinary! until the very end of the contest.

:46:54. > :47:14.Here at the Rio 2016 Games, history made. She is pretty good at making

:47:15. > :47:18.history. Kaori Icho has won her fourth consecutive gold medal in

:47:19. > :47:22.wrestling, and in doing so she becomes the first woman in Olympic

:47:23. > :47:29.history to win individual event gold in four consecutive Olympic Games.

:47:30. > :47:34.Well, not much emotion here for Kaori Icho, but surely it is about

:47:35. > :47:46.to start pouring out of her right now. Four gold medals in succession.

:47:47. > :47:55.We move to the gold medal bouts now in the women's freestyle wrestling,

:47:56. > :48:02.and the 69 kg class. It will feature rush-hour's Natalia Vorobeva, the

:48:03. > :48:11.world number four. -- Russia's. Up against Sara Dosho of Japan, the

:48:12. > :48:16.world number five. Sara Dosho here has the possibility of winning

:48:17. > :48:35.Japan's third Olympic gold medal in this session.

:48:36. > :48:48.Yet again, Natalia Vorobieva driving her out. Still 1-0. 17 seconds. Just

:48:49. > :48:58.stalling here, just trying to make it very difficult. There it looks as

:48:59. > :49:08.though this will be a second point for foreign bee ever -- for Natalia

:49:09. > :49:17.Vorobieva. And it is. At the moment it is 2-0 with one minute and 30

:49:18. > :49:26.seconds left. The referee has been very clear here. She has got plenty

:49:27. > :49:47.of energy. Somebody has flipped the switch.

:49:48. > :49:58.Vorobieva being urged to do some attacking here. Seemingly happy here

:49:59. > :50:05.to preserve her slender 2-point route. Dosho could seal this with a

:50:06. > :50:17.score here. That's right. Her opponent needs a 2-point takedown.

:50:18. > :50:27.This could be the moment! It is a 2-point, to the Japanese wrestler!

:50:28. > :50:31.-- 2-pointer. Now Vorobieva is in deep trouble. She will have 20

:50:32. > :50:35.seconds of all-out attack here to defend her Olympic title. At the

:50:36. > :50:42.moment, on count back on it will be Dosho who will win the gold medal.

:50:43. > :50:50.That is unless the Russian can score here. The referee is warning some

:50:51. > :50:55.pretty animated coaches from both camps at the moment. That is why

:50:56. > :50:59.there was a delay. 20 seconds to go, Vorobieva needs to dig deep if she

:51:00. > :51:04.wants to defend her Olympic title. She has got ten seconds to get a

:51:05. > :51:09.score. Otherwise the Japanese wrestler, it will be three golds in

:51:10. > :51:12.this session to Japan, and Vorobieva is going down to the wire. It is

:51:13. > :51:27.gold to Japan! What a session for Japanese

:51:28. > :51:33.wrestling. Bad domination of the women's wrestling is renowned, and

:51:34. > :51:43.now it is even more dominant. -- bad domination of women's wrestling. --

:51:44. > :51:51.their domination. Vorobieva could not defend her Olympic title, and

:51:52. > :52:00.Dosho with that 2-pointer with about 25 seconds left gets it on the count

:52:01. > :52:10.back. It finishes 2-2, but the gold goes to Sara Dosho of Japan. The

:52:11. > :52:15.women's 69 kg gold medal, and it was a thriller.

:52:16. > :52:19.The reaction here from the Japanese fans, it is not the first time he

:52:20. > :52:28.has been in that position, hoisted up again, the Japanese coach. Such a

:52:29. > :52:35.wonderful, wonderful moment. Yes, he is lapping it up. And rightly so.

:52:36. > :52:45.What a session for this Japanese team. Not a bad recovery from him,

:52:46. > :52:49.too. Well, we have to look at these

:52:50. > :52:54.celebrations again. Look at this. When Japan wins a gold medal, they

:52:55. > :53:00.celebrate in style. There you go, no hands needed at all. Only when she

:53:01. > :53:02.is clutching onto his thighs. I think that should become a

:53:03. > :53:06.celebration in Premier League football and the Six Nations. That

:53:07. > :53:11.is what we want to see. That is how to celebrate. You only get that at

:53:12. > :53:14.the Olympics. Marvellous stuff. Do stay with us. I know that lots of

:53:15. > :53:17.you are tweeting us now, saying that you are looking forward to the beach

:53:18. > :53:23.volleyball. Look at what is happening. Lots of razzmatazz at the

:53:24. > :53:26.bottom of Copacabana. It was absolutely jumping yesterday evening

:53:27. > :53:30.when Brazil took on the United States in the women's singles. Well,

:53:31. > :53:34.it is the gold medal match this evening between Brazil and Germany.

:53:35. > :53:39.So much rivalry between Brazil and Germany. I think it all goes back to

:53:40. > :53:44.that World Cup drubbing, 7-0, in the World Cup. The Brazilians are

:53:45. > :53:47.desperate to win the gold medal in that condition. We will go there

:53:48. > :53:59.shortly. Let's show you what happened in the men's welterweight

:54:00. > :54:12.gold medal bout. Shakhram Giyasov is taking on Kazakhstan, we join the

:54:13. > :54:15.syndicate round. COMMENTATOR: We are into the third and final round of

:54:16. > :54:20.the men's 69 kg welterweight gold medal bout, and the man in red,

:54:21. > :54:27.walking after his man defiantly, with his hand by his side, saying,

:54:28. > :54:35.come on, fight me! Shakhram Giyasov, the spec. -- the Uzbek. He is

:54:36. > :54:44.frustrated because he cannot get his opponent a standstill. -- to stand

:54:45. > :54:48.still. He is obviously frustrated, but there is more than one way to

:54:49. > :54:52.skin a cat. This is why he is one of the best boxers in the world, this

:54:53. > :54:59.fellow in blue. He is frustrating his opponent. This should suit him.

:55:00. > :55:05.He is being made to miss, terrific movement from the waist. The head

:55:06. > :55:09.unable to be targeted effectively by Shakhram Giyasov, who is putting an

:55:10. > :55:19.awful lot into his punches. In the meantime, look at that again. We

:55:20. > :55:23.have seen Dani Alves herself do this before -- seen Daniyar Yeleussinov

:55:24. > :55:29.do this before. He is doing it again, letting you solve note that

:55:30. > :55:30.he is in charge in every facet of the game. -- letting Shakhram

:55:31. > :55:38.Giyasov no. Well, if you want him that way,

:55:39. > :55:44.let's go. He is actually boxing better than his opponent. It is his

:55:45. > :55:48.opponent's style of boxing. He is demonstrating that he can box on the

:55:49. > :55:52.outside, Daniyar Yeleussinov. Standing toe to toe. This should

:55:53. > :55:57.suit the man in red. Can he lands that shot? Somebody's mouthpiece has

:55:58. > :56:04.been dislodged. The mouthpiece of Shakhram Giyasov. We are just beyond

:56:05. > :56:12.B midpoint of the third and final round, and be Kazakh fans are almost

:56:13. > :56:15.counting down the clock. Because Daniyar Yeleussinov is getting

:56:16. > :56:19.closer to joining the ranks of the all-time greats of the Central Asian

:56:20. > :56:22.boxing nation of desert sun. Yes, they have dominated the division for

:56:23. > :56:35.the last three Olympics, Kazakhstan. Lovely head movement. We have seen

:56:36. > :56:38.that from a couple of Kazakhstan boxes, especially when they are on

:56:39. > :56:44.the ropes. They have obviously been taught good defensive work as well.

:56:45. > :56:56.Great to see. Good performance from the Kazakhs.

:56:57. > :57:01.He is taking on Shakhram Giyasov in the types of exchanges that he

:57:02. > :57:06.wants, and still he is making the man mix. Generally getting the

:57:07. > :57:13.better of the exchange. Trying to find that finishing shot. A right

:57:14. > :57:16.hand, and another left. When you adopt that, as he does sometimes,

:57:17. > :57:23.when a shot lands, you cannot accentuate it any more effectively

:57:24. > :57:29.than it is. A furious exchange in the closing seconds, but they can be

:57:30. > :57:32.little doubt that Kazakhstan will extend their fantastic record in the

:57:33. > :57:42.welterweight division in the Olympic boxing ring by making it four wins

:57:43. > :57:44.in a row. A tremendous performance from

:57:45. > :57:50.Daniyar Yeleussinov, because right at the end he had to take a couple

:57:51. > :58:12.of big blows. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision. In

:58:13. > :58:16.the blue corner... Shakhram Giyasov. Daniyar Yeleussinov is absolutely

:58:17. > :58:22.ecstatic. He has been announced as the welterweight Olympic champion.

:58:23. > :58:27.Here in Riocentro Pavilion six, a tremendous display. His fans are

:58:28. > :58:31.jubilant and he is absolutely overcome with emotion. A warm

:58:32. > :58:35.embrace of congratulations from his coaching staff. They provided the

:58:36. > :58:41.tactics, he carried out in the boxing ring. Kazakhstan join Cuba as

:58:42. > :58:45.a National Olympic Committee to make it four wins in a row in a

:58:46. > :58:50.particular weight class. That was a great fight. We are going

:58:51. > :58:52.to go to the beach will the ball live very shortly, Brazil against

:58:53. > :58:57.Germany, the gold medal match for the women. It will be terrific. Lots

:58:58. > :59:02.of you are still getting in touch with us, you are still up at this

:59:03. > :59:07.hour. " A very good night to you, Jason and your team. The kids are up

:59:08. > :59:11.at six o'clock in the morning, they had better get some sleep". I make

:59:12. > :59:14.it for a clock now, that is two hours sleep! Another brilliant

:59:15. > :59:19.tweet, lots of you are enjoying this. Particularly want to give a

:59:20. > :59:22.shout out to Jake tonight, I have gotten all motor watching the beach

:59:23. > :59:28.will of all and I have got my A-levels in the morning. He is going

:59:29. > :59:32.right through the night. We wish you the best for your A-levels, Jake. Do

:59:33. > :59:35.stay with us. You might want to look at the men's volleyball as well,

:59:36. > :59:39.this is a big match. This is available on the red button right

:59:40. > :59:43.now. Look at what is happening there right now, the Brazilian men are

:59:44. > :59:46.under a lot of pressure. This is a massive game, Brazil against

:59:47. > :59:51.Argentina. A packed arena. They are leading 2-1. There is a lot of

:59:52. > :59:56.pressure on Brazil's men's volleyball side, because the women

:59:57. > :00:00.were beaten by China yesterday evening. So it is all about the men

:00:01. > :00:03.now, for the indoor volleyball. That is available on the red button.

:00:04. > :00:06.Let's take you to the end of Copacabana and show you what is

:00:07. > :00:10.happening there right now. If you think it is going to be crazy in

:00:11. > :00:14.that arena for the indoor volleyball, then trust me, look at

:00:15. > :00:21.these pictures. Amazing. The Brazilian people have really brought

:00:22. > :00:35.into the beach volleyball. Listen to this, this is the Brazilian national

:00:36. > :00:44.anthem. BRAZILIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS.

:00:45. > :00:51.There we go, the majority of the fans in the arena this evening

:00:52. > :00:52.chanting for Brazil. We can join our commentary team, Charlie Broome and

:00:53. > :01:20.Britpop above. have become inseparable and it is

:01:21. > :01:35.Germany getting this match under way. And it is Bizzell who get the

:01:36. > :01:44.first point -- Brazil. The Brazilian power under all sorts of pressure

:01:45. > :01:49.but they seem to thrive on it. On the other side of the net is a

:01:50. > :01:55.German power which absolutely dismantled the number once -- number

:01:56. > :02:03.one seeds. One of the most impressive displays. Two teams were

:02:04. > :02:07.worthy of a display in a gold-medal match. Both these teams battled

:02:08. > :02:15.fiercely through the semi-final matches, beating some of the most

:02:16. > :02:24.incredible teams in the world. The Brazilians, Agatha Barbara, were

:02:25. > :02:28.unstoppable. -- Agatha and Barbara. Germany were surgical. They were so

:02:29. > :02:30.clean and so precise with everything that they did and that is why both

:02:31. > :02:48.these teams are here tonight. What a block. The key here for the

:02:49. > :02:54.German parent is to get into this game quickly. Every Brazilian point

:02:55. > :03:06.is going to be cheered to the happens. Agatha and Barbara have

:03:07. > :03:10.definitely that of the energy of the crowd. It is not seem to bother the

:03:11. > :03:18.Germans too much as they seemed to go through the favourites. It seems

:03:19. > :03:29.like there was a lot of wind picking up. You can tell by Barbara's out,

:03:30. > :03:38.it is blowing. They would be on the "Bad side". Brazil is what we would

:03:39. > :03:42.say is that good side. It makes the ball more unpredictable. It allows

:03:43. > :03:55.the Brazilians to stay pretty aggressive. Walkenhorst replays that

:03:56. > :03:58.-- repays the block of Agatha. If you are watching beach volleyball

:03:59. > :04:08.for the first time, a quick reminder of the rules. Best-of-3 sets, the

:04:09. > :04:15.first two sets are played up to 21. We see this point played out. It

:04:16. > :04:28.goes the of Brazil. -- the way of Brazil. There will be a sides which

:04:29. > :04:33.-- aside switch. There are also two challenges per team, percept. If you

:04:34. > :04:51.get your challenge right, you keep it. Ludwick plunging forward. --

:04:52. > :04:55.Ludwig. That net can start to blow and cause it to go into the block.

:04:56. > :05:00.Something that all these players are taking into account, but we are also

:05:01. > :05:07.looking at a stadium that seats 12,000. Not only is it one side

:05:08. > :05:08.might be more favourable, but that wind can bounce around and creates

:05:09. > :05:28.serious swirling action. This winter is picked up since the

:05:29. > :05:30.bronze medal match which dished probably one hour and 20 minutes

:05:31. > :05:56.ago. -- this wind has picked up. That is a heavy set from Ludwig. The

:05:57. > :06:03.advantage with Brazil. A good block from Walkenhorst.

:06:04. > :06:13.What a rally. What a rally. Really great work on both sides of the net.

:06:14. > :06:23.Staying calm, saying patient -- stating patient. -- stating patient.

:06:24. > :06:30.That first set by Ludwig was aggressive but she has to get it up

:06:31. > :06:34.into the wind. Knowing how physical Walkenhorst is, she likes her

:06:35. > :06:42.chances, getting a parent tangling with Agatha in the block. -- getting

:06:43. > :06:51.up there and tangling. What an atmosphere to play in. That is

:06:52. > :06:55.another feature of Ludwig. She is very happy to put the ball over the

:06:56. > :07:00.net the first or second time. She likes to change it up. She is known

:07:01. > :07:05.to that, those type of plays. It is most definitely in the Brazilians

:07:06. > :07:09.scouting report. Watch her to go on one, watch her to go on two. They

:07:10. > :07:28.are very precise in the way they score. She missed the cut shot. 6-6.

:07:29. > :07:41.Just hammering into the wind. That was the wind. You can hear it. Look

:07:42. > :07:46.at this, it just died. She created a little bit of a hybrid that without

:07:47. > :08:06.server. That is usually her jump- blood serve. She put a little extra.

:08:07. > :08:19.Digging in all angles is Ludwig. In the end, could not keep it alive.

:08:20. > :08:37.Get there. -- she gets better, she just can't keep it up.

:08:38. > :08:47.Good reactions. In the end, the retreating Walkenhorst who can't do

:08:48. > :09:09.anything about the power from Agatha.

:09:10. > :09:30.Agatha hammering but Walkenhorst is about 1.5, two metres away.

:09:31. > :09:43.Nice work from Ludwig. Are patients and position is what sets her apart.

:09:44. > :09:57.-- her patients and precision is what sets her apart. The good dig.

:09:58. > :10:15.Really well done. Plunging forward. Barbara, keeping it alive. Seeding

:10:16. > :10:20.and 80s. -- saving an ace. Barbara, very much poking, Chipping type of

:10:21. > :10:34.player. She wants to place it before she takes a swing at it.

:10:35. > :10:42.Walkenhorst, to the empty back court. This team has not seemed to

:10:43. > :10:48.rattle once. Once this entire tournament, this entire Olympics,

:10:49. > :10:53.the Germans have been steady and focused, point by point,

:10:54. > :11:01.side-by-side to them. -- side-by-side for them. And that type

:11:02. > :11:06.of focus on that type of calm, that can only come from trusting each

:11:07. > :11:11.other and trusting the work that you have put in, trusting the team that

:11:12. > :11:15.is behind the team that beat the team in the stands, the sports

:11:16. > :11:20.psychologists, the strength coaches, the coaches, the video analysts.

:11:21. > :11:26.There is a lot of trust in that camp and it is paying off for them. So

:11:27. > :11:31.the first technical timeout is Germany who lead by a solitary

:11:32. > :11:39.point. 11- ten. This gold-medal match just couldn't be any closer.

:11:40. > :11:46.Each site also has a timeout. -- side. That was the first side that

:11:47. > :11:54.was on what would be considered the bad side. Both of these teams, both

:11:55. > :12:04.Germany and Brazil, started the set by winning the right side of the

:12:05. > :12:12.court to your screen. That was the first time that Germany won the bad

:12:13. > :12:21.side. This is the view from the helicopter looking at Copacabana.

:12:22. > :12:26.This entire tournament, the wind has been coming from Ipanema, from right

:12:27. > :12:34.to left. A bit of a change for the players. The audience doesn't care,

:12:35. > :12:40.they are watching beach will all. It is howling. If we can see the wind

:12:41. > :12:48.and that flag whipping down on the sand, you can imagine what it is

:12:49. > :12:52.doing up in the nosebleed section. Walkenhorst is taking full advantage

:12:53. > :12:57.of the wind being in her face. That allows an extra metre to play with.

:12:58. > :13:01.She can hit the ball that much harder because she knows the wind is

:13:02. > :13:03.going to pull it. It will be a string that will pull it back for

:13:04. > :13:18.her. I get the roles that. -- Agatha

:13:19. > :13:22.rolls it. They are true professionals. They are not afraid

:13:23. > :13:27.of the wind. Sometimes the wind can cause mental fatigue. You are always

:13:28. > :13:32.thinking about it. You see which direction it is actually blowing.

:13:33. > :13:38.They always playing it rather than against it. Both of these sites,

:13:39. > :13:47.both of these teams, extremely good at making the wind their friend. --

:13:48. > :13:52.sides. Walkenhorst talking to the referee. He will have to have a look

:13:53. > :13:55.at the sand. Very close. From that angle, it

:13:56. > :14:19.looked like it bounced the line. The Germans, getting a little bit

:14:20. > :14:23.too aggressive with their setting. They definitely are looking to stay

:14:24. > :14:31.aggressive but sometimes you got to walk a fine line. They are pre-1 up

:14:32. > :14:50.in the set of seven from the left-hand side. -- -- 3-1. That was

:14:51. > :14:59.touched by Brazil. The Germans have been working on a very high set from

:15:00. > :15:03.the beginning of the year. It got a little macro one but they stuck with

:15:04. > :15:10.it in overtime, it is paid off. -- it's got a little squirly. This wind

:15:11. > :15:20.will make it very difficult to judge. Walkenhorst, a good block.

:15:21. > :15:24.Walkenhorst, when she can put her hands on it, it comes up so clean.

:15:25. > :15:47.It is very, very pretty. Ludwig going to that seems that got

:15:48. > :15:53.her and earlier in the set. The cut shot gives them a chance to extend

:15:54. > :16:07.their lead. Walkenhorst has one of the heaviest

:16:08. > :16:11.arms in the game. That is why it is taped up. It has taken a lot of

:16:12. > :16:14.swings. There are only so many bullets in that gun but she has a

:16:15. > :16:33.few more rounds left in her, I believe. Brazil just trying to put a

:16:34. > :16:34.sting in the game. This is the sixth time these players have met since

:16:35. > :16:46.June last year. We can see the draw and how they got

:16:47. > :16:58.to this gold-medal match. Agatha and Barbora won the first one in June

:16:59. > :17:07.last year. -- Barbara. They won in Yokohama Boer, -- they won in the

:17:08. > :17:13.Yokohama match in the gold medal match in Hamburg. -- and in the

:17:14. > :17:34.gold-medal match in Hamburg. It is very difficult to deal with

:17:35. > :17:46.the southpaw, to deal with the lefty. But Walker Horst --

:17:47. > :17:56.Walkenhorst did an incredible job. That is such a great and gutsy

:17:57. > :17:59.adjustment by the Germans, knowing that Bednarczuk likes to get chippy,

:18:00. > :18:01.that is not a mistake that she makes. But Germany talked her into

:18:02. > :18:14.it. That will have too much on it.

:18:15. > :18:22.Ludwick played it. She didn't need to. That is a let off for Brazil. It

:18:23. > :18:28.is the window that made good weed play that. -- the wind that made

:18:29. > :18:49.Ludwig played out. She has not let it affect her. Great

:18:50. > :19:09.mental agility by Ludwig's to come back and take care of business.

:19:10. > :19:24.Brazil need to start winning points on their serve year. -- here.

:19:25. > :19:46.Very good dig from Brazil! Net violation, is it? It has gone the

:19:47. > :19:51.way of Brazil. They both aggressively when Tian Foret, and

:19:52. > :20:04.they both celebrated just as aggressively. It is hard to tell.

:20:05. > :20:10.Laura Ludwig was definitely the aggressor on that. Germany still

:20:11. > :20:18.being very aggressive with their setting. That is the follow. That

:20:19. > :20:45.gets them to within two points of this first set.

:20:46. > :20:53.That is an important spike. Great play by the Brazilians. That is how

:20:54. > :20:58.they started their semi-final match against Kerri Walsh Jennings and

:20:59. > :21:01.Abel Ross. Really good control on the received, running back plays

:21:02. > :21:13.behind the centre and spreading the defence as far as they can. It makes

:21:14. > :21:21.the defence extremely uncomfortable. Walkenhorst pounces to bring up

:21:22. > :21:26.three set points. Stays in the player, stays in the aggressor. It

:21:27. > :21:28.is a much different feeling when a team takes the court and is looking

:21:29. > :21:40.to score and they are the aggressors. The next point comes on

:21:41. > :21:42.the Brazilians serve. The next two, if they required, will both be on

:21:43. > :22:04.the Brazilian serve. Germany are in front in this gold

:22:05. > :22:08.medal match. The pocket of German supporters rise as one to cheer.

:22:09. > :22:12.Listen to how quiet the stadium is now. We mentioned before that what

:22:13. > :22:15.the German pair need to do to get into the match and quieten the

:22:16. > :22:22.crowd, well, they have done that in the first set, because they won it

:22:23. > :22:25.21 - 80. So it is Germany who take the lead

:22:26. > :22:30.in the beach of old of all. Let's just show you what has been

:22:31. > :22:35.happening in the indoor volleyball. It is Brazil against Argentina. Look

:22:36. > :22:43.at what happens here. Brazil needing just one more point to win it. A

:22:44. > :22:53.deflection, and a look at that. Amazing. Heartbreak for Argentina.

:22:54. > :22:58.In 2012, Russia won gold, Brazil won silver, Italy won bronze. But for

:22:59. > :23:03.Brazil, this is the one they want. This, and the gold medal in the

:23:04. > :23:07.men's football tournament, especially after the women lost

:23:08. > :23:12.yesterday evening to China. This is a massive, massive result. And that

:23:13. > :23:15.is what it means if you are an Argentinian volleyball player, that

:23:16. > :23:25.is what it is like to lose to your biggest rivals. Amazing.

:23:26. > :23:34.That is the indoor volleyball. Let's go back to the beach followed Latvia

:23:35. > :23:41.and of the iconic -- beach volleyball at the end of the iconic

:23:42. > :23:42.Copacabana. She really stays behind the ball well. Her shoulders are

:23:43. > :24:01.textbook. Yes! Hang time from Walkenhorst.

:24:02. > :24:08.What a great read. A step in, a bit of a delay on the ground, knowing

:24:09. > :24:16.that she might want to be shooting. And just outreach is. The finish, it

:24:17. > :24:17.is one thing to touch it but it is something else to finish it throw it

:24:18. > :24:32.down. 2-0, Germany. Rozelle are on the

:24:33. > :24:36.board in the second set. -- Brazil. Trying to take some sort of

:24:37. > :24:39.momentum, trying to figure out how they are going to get these points

:24:40. > :24:53.against a very, very tough German team.

:24:54. > :25:07.Blasting away. Again, Walkenhorst, not only does she have such a heavy

:25:08. > :25:08.arm, but she can that handset, which is an extremely difficult skill for

:25:09. > :25:24.the women. She is there again. Those are the

:25:25. > :25:33.details that separate a gold medal team from the rest of the world. It

:25:34. > :25:40.happens in the fingertips. Gray again, she seems to hang of

:25:41. > :25:47.outrages. -- again, she seems to hang there for ages. Early advantage

:25:48. > :25:53.to Germany, but plenty of time for Brazil to fight their way back into

:25:54. > :25:58.this. Lyle Ludwig puts away the spike. This is almost a repetition

:25:59. > :26:03.of the semi-final, except in the semi-final, they were down three

:26:04. > :26:09.quarters of the way through the first set. This time they led for

:26:10. > :26:14.most of the first set, and Brazil have gone for the timeout. They are

:26:15. > :26:15.hoping this works because they will have nothing left after the

:26:16. > :26:34.technical timeout. This team does a great job of

:26:35. > :26:39.competing with one another. They are very clean, very respectful. Very

:26:40. > :26:45.relaxed. They are sharing good information, going across. I am not

:26:46. > :26:56.sure there is much that Walkenhorst and Ludwig can say to each other.

:26:57. > :27:01.Because it is not going to get much better for each other. Yes, a

:27:02. > :27:13.timeout like this might simply go, hey, you'd do you. -- you do you.

:27:14. > :27:18.That is what Bednarczuk and Seixas are trying to break by calling this

:27:19. > :27:26.timeout. Dear me, that is incredible. That is three or four in

:27:27. > :27:30.this set. I think it is three. It is going to be imperative as they

:27:31. > :27:39.switch to the good side, a 6-1 switch. Anything past 4-3 switch, if

:27:40. > :27:44.you can get a 5-2, that is a bonus. 6-1, well, you are closing in on a

:27:45. > :27:51.set pretty quickly if that is what you can keep up and you can get

:27:52. > :27:53.strung together. Well, we have seen some extraordinary turnarounds in

:27:54. > :28:04.the Scottish and thus far. I would not write off the Brazilians to

:28:05. > :28:08.quickly. No doubt about it. Who is to say what those players are

:28:09. > :28:14.actually feeling down there? As far as wind is concerned. Sometimes that

:28:15. > :28:15.switch will give you a little boost of confidence, like, OK, we are all

:28:16. > :28:33.right. And they switch it up and they go

:28:34. > :28:40.after Walkenhorst, but when Germany is on that side, they have been

:28:41. > :28:43.pounding Bednarczuk. There is something telling me that that

:28:44. > :28:51.corner might be the tough quarter. -- the tough quad. Difficult

:28:52. > :28:59.conditions for these players. Look at the flag. Not tugging as hard as

:29:00. > :29:08.it once was, but it is still pretty windy down there.

:29:09. > :29:14.If I was Germany at this point I would be prepared for a back set.

:29:15. > :29:18.That has been working from Brazil. They like to go to that, because

:29:19. > :29:29.that is a bit of their bailout, to run the defence around.

:29:30. > :30:11.Second ball finds the open court. It is looking healthy for Brazil, now.

:30:12. > :30:14.Walkenhorst hangs tough again to make yet another block. That is six

:30:15. > :30:47.in the match. Four blocks in set number 24 Walton

:30:48. > :31:02.Horst. --4 Walkenhorst. Walkenhorst with a net violation. Germany, they

:31:03. > :31:03.set that play up extremely well. To put Ludwig in a great defensive

:31:04. > :31:46.position. That side of the net has created

:31:47. > :31:53.three net violations. This one goes against Brazil. But what Brazil has

:31:54. > :32:00.done is they have switched sides. Agatha is now on the right side.

:32:01. > :32:05.They are still going after Barbara, which is the non-dominant side and

:32:06. > :32:21.because she is a lefty, she handles it well. That indicates to me that

:32:22. > :32:25.if you divide the court into fours, the quadrant Agatha started on is

:32:26. > :32:38.the one that is the most difficult to receive.

:32:39. > :32:45.Excellent dig. Can she finish it off? No, because Ludvig is there. --

:32:46. > :32:55.Ludwig's. Another excellent rally. It is a

:32:56. > :32:59.point to Germany. Right now, they are looking pretty unstoppable. A

:33:00. > :33:10.heck of a shot by Barbara. Germany is still staying aggressive

:33:11. > :33:24.with their setting, waiting to the opportunity to score.

:33:25. > :33:36.It finds the mark. Squeezed it just passed Walkenhorst. In 2013, she was

:33:37. > :33:37.both the most improved and top ranking. In three years, here she

:33:38. > :34:14.is. Real power from Walkenhorst. She has

:34:15. > :34:23.been digging well, Barbara, but no reply to that.

:34:24. > :34:44.That is the technical timeout. Germany are really in the box seat

:34:45. > :34:55.here. They took the first set. 20- 18, in a previous game. This sat,

:34:56. > :35:06.21- 18. They are in the box seat. The favourites right now.

:35:07. > :35:13.Walkenhorst has just been blocking the run here. The German women are

:35:14. > :35:18.bringing such could energy and its authentic. Not forcing celebrations.

:35:19. > :35:23.They are staying within themselves. It's really, really beautiful game

:35:24. > :35:33.that they are putting over this last warned and we get a glimpse of their

:35:34. > :35:40.brilliance. -- last section. All the work that has been developed.

:35:41. > :35:50.Barbara to serve. She and Agatha are right up against it here.

:35:51. > :35:53.Walkenhorst, yes, that is fantastic. Poor old Barbora comes up with one

:35:54. > :35:55.of the best things we've seen in probably the whole tournament. --

:35:56. > :36:56.Barbara. What a layout. Again, on the block. They are

:36:57. > :37:06.fighting. Every point here, Agatha and Barbara. We talk about timing

:37:07. > :37:11.and spacing and how imperative it is but the angles of this game are ever

:37:12. > :37:16.shifting. Then you through the element of the wind in. It can

:37:17. > :37:19.change the ball so drastically in flight. It is fascinating.

:37:20. > :37:42.Fascinating and brilliant that Barbara is in the right position

:37:43. > :37:54.more often than not. Just drops it. That is a great presence of mind.

:37:55. > :38:06.Good work. Good communication by the Brazilians. Barbara talked to Agatha

:38:07. > :38:10.to go over the block, and it didn't need to be sharp, it just needed to

:38:11. > :38:32.be where Ludwig was not. She has kept it alive. She stayed

:38:33. > :38:40.with it. They are back to within three.

:38:41. > :39:35.The final throes of the match. The deficit that came in the first seven

:39:36. > :39:39.points. You can kind of see a lower mouthpiece on Agatha and Barbara.

:39:40. > :39:44.There have been many studies in sports science and psychology, the

:39:45. > :39:50.teeth actually releases the drug cortisol into the brain, which is

:39:51. > :39:54.your fight or flight drug. Breeding calms you down. These athletes are

:39:55. > :39:58.so dialled in to what their numbers are, whether they need to get more

:39:59. > :40:06.excited or whether they need to calm down. Overexcitement causes issues,

:40:07. > :40:13.being too relaxed causes issues. Psychologically, knowing where you

:40:14. > :40:14.are wrapped -- where you are, some players need to calm down. Some

:40:15. > :40:37.players need to get amped up. It just slides wide. Germany led 12-

:40:38. > :40:43.six. Brazil won seven of the last ten points. They could do the same

:40:44. > :40:50.again. They could get their nose in front before the end of the set.

:40:51. > :41:00.Look at the wind. Curling the ball away. Big adjustment from

:41:01. > :41:06.Walkenhorst. Exactly. I mentioned there high, high set. They have been

:41:07. > :41:09.working on executing it extremely well. They are having to completely

:41:10. > :41:13.abandon that and go to a lower set because the wind is now involved.

:41:14. > :41:19.The wind just killed that serve as well. Just as I talked about Brazil

:41:20. > :41:29.getting back into it, look at that. That has just died on Agatha. They

:41:30. > :41:35.got to keep believing, Brazil, because just as quickly as Germany

:41:36. > :41:42.ran out into that early lead, Brazil might have a late run. Look at that.

:41:43. > :41:56.The wind. This is getting very ominous for Brazil.

:41:57. > :42:09.It is so important to stay low, get that set up. Look how far up she

:42:10. > :42:15.stepped. Oh, you're kidding me. They kept it alive that they couldn't get

:42:16. > :42:21.it back over the net. It is seven gold-medal points for Germany. I

:42:22. > :42:28.said I didn't think they would win the second set 21- 12. They might

:42:29. > :42:32.win a 21- the team -- 21- 13. A great block from Walkenhorst. This

:42:33. > :42:41.is it, the first of seven gold-medal points. They scramble for position.

:42:42. > :42:57.They will have to wait a little longer. She was too much on it. The

:42:58. > :43:09.second match point comes on Brazil's sir. -- serve. It is wide and it is

:43:10. > :43:21.all over. Germany are the Olympic champions. They have taken the

:43:22. > :43:26.gold-medal match by two sets to nil. 21- 18, 20 1- 14. They are the

:43:27. > :43:38.Olympic champions in Rio. A thoroughly deferred -- deserved

:43:39. > :43:41.title. Ludwig and Walkenhorst have one. The European champions have

:43:42. > :43:46.beaten the world champions and as always, in situations like this,

:43:47. > :43:47.there are two sides of the coin. The joy of the winners and the despair

:43:48. > :43:57.of the losers. That is a heartbreak for Brazil.

:43:58. > :44:02.They desperately wanted the gold medal on the beach volleyball in

:44:03. > :44:08.this competition. A packed arena at Copacabana. Late-night drama. Well

:44:09. > :44:13.played, Germany. Ludwig and Walkenhorst stunned the gold-medal

:44:14. > :44:16.favourites to make the final and by winning that match, they made sure

:44:17. > :44:21.that Germany would win their first ever Olympic medal on the beach

:44:22. > :44:26.volleyball. The German would men won the gold medal in London and look at

:44:27. > :44:30.that, that is Olympic joy. -- the German men. They were brilliant this

:44:31. > :44:34.evening. When your luck is not in, it is simply not in. Genuine

:44:35. > :44:38.heartbreak for Brazil. They were never really in it. The German flag

:44:39. > :44:45.is waved proudly on the Copacabana beach. Great scenes for Germany.

:44:46. > :44:50.Gold-medal winners. A lot of people had Brazil down to be favourites,

:44:51. > :44:54.simply because it is a home game and they were absolutely wonderful

:44:55. > :44:55.yesterday in despatching the Americans but it is Germany's night

:44:56. > :45:05.in Rio tonight. Well, you know volleyball is a real

:45:06. > :45:10.passion here in Brazil, especially in Rio and especially when you are

:45:11. > :45:15.taking on Argentina. Earlier, we showed you when Brazil's men took on

:45:16. > :45:25.Argentina. Let's relive those wonderful sings again. -- scenes.

:45:26. > :45:37.Can they move further ahead? Wallace goes for the float. Couldn't really

:45:38. > :45:45.get much of a swing now. That is dropped out. Argentina take

:45:46. > :45:51.advantage. That wasn't the best set. They had to stop, a standing start,

:45:52. > :46:04.really. You got to credit both teams. It is much defence as

:46:05. > :46:09.deficiency. It is very frustrating when it misses. A really sensitive

:46:10. > :46:20.time. It is whoever makes a run from here on in. Suddenly seeing the

:46:21. > :46:22.finish line on top of a hill. They need to take this third set for the

:46:23. > :46:35.win. First serve for two sets. He is the

:46:36. > :46:50.master observing. He hasn't got a point of that one.

:46:51. > :47:01.Gonzales will return. On comes Lima. Can they capitalise? This serve

:47:02. > :47:31.needs to be good. It is certainly in play. Take that.

:47:32. > :47:52.How many times do we see it? Now it is Lipe.

:47:53. > :48:02.Good leave, right decision. Judged it perfectly, Lucarelli. Don't mind

:48:03. > :48:32.me. I thought that was in. No clear lead for Brazil. It is what

:48:33. > :48:40.they want more than anything here. Argentina back on serve at 18- 18.

:48:41. > :48:52.Straight into the net, not even close to tipping over from Sole.

:48:53. > :49:01.Server Argentina, Alexa Gonzalez comes back on. -- Alexis. It will

:49:02. > :49:11.stiffen their defence. Brazil have the serve.

:49:12. > :49:21.Look at that scoreboard! Into the 20s. Go Brazil, two once clear. They

:49:22. > :49:24.get to 25 and the match is done. What a serve as well, to start

:49:25. > :49:27.Brazil off in that a rally. Argentina always playing catch-up.

:49:28. > :50:01.Yes, they found the dig. A big couple of minutes now for both

:50:02. > :50:12.of these teams, for different reasons. Certainly for Argentina.

:50:13. > :50:19.Receiving this Brazil serve. 18- 20 down, and we are getting towards the

:50:20. > :50:31.last chance saloon for Argentina. De Souza will serve.

:50:32. > :50:41.That is a great spike. Not the best of serve low. Not the most powerful.

:50:42. > :50:55.A bit flat, wasn't it? Look at the gap.

:50:56. > :51:10.Spike! 21- 19. That is the lift. Brazil have the finish line in

:51:11. > :51:40.sight. Textbook stuff, really. 21- 20. It is a move that has worked

:51:41. > :51:48.wonders for them, generally, in this set.

:51:49. > :52:12.Yes! The high set, Sergio Lucas takes the point 22- 20.

:52:13. > :52:16.Straightaway, Sergio Bruno Lucas. All forward movements, having

:52:17. > :52:20.received the serve. It is taking the spike early, isn't it? Not waiting

:52:21. > :52:33.for the ball to drop. Almost catching it on the up spin. 22- 20.

:52:34. > :52:38.Deep serve. Argentina set in. Brazilian blocks, very good.

:52:39. > :52:48.That has gone straight out. Top score of the match so far with 22

:52:49. > :52:49.points. That one escaped. More to the point, Argentina are just one

:52:50. > :53:15.behind. It is which way the coin falls

:53:16. > :53:24.there. Timeout for Brazil, not surprisingly. They were on their

:53:25. > :53:27.way, 22- 20. They just got lost. Just like that. They can often be as

:53:28. > :53:47.random as coin tosses. What a quarter-final, Jonathan. What

:53:48. > :53:54.a noise. Whether you are from Brazil, or from Argentina. Just let

:53:55. > :54:01.the world know that you are here. And still, it is anybody's set, in a

:54:02. > :54:07.sense, anybody's match. Brazil have the edge on sets, but all these

:54:08. > :54:12.players for Argentina know they still have it in their power to

:54:13. > :54:18.close this out. Mighty bloc! What it has fallen for Brazil out of court.

:54:19. > :54:44.Brazil edges ahead with serve. Lucarelli, the wounded soldier. Just

:54:45. > :54:48.when he needed a special race, he was the man who scored the 19 points

:54:49. > :54:54.to see off Argentina two months ago. It has gone begging. Now Argentina

:54:55. > :55:05.have the chance. Gonzalo is, he has done very little wrong since coming

:55:06. > :55:10.on. -- Ghazal is. -- Gonzales. Straight into the net. What a way to

:55:11. > :55:16.offer up the match point. There is an expression. If ever an expression

:55:17. > :55:22.gave away the worry... Surrounded by dancing Brazilian fans. And

:55:23. > :55:27.Argentina fan is now staring defeat firmly in the face. And they will be

:55:28. > :55:34.dancing all night long in Rio de Janeiro if they can end this match

:55:35. > :55:45.point. Russia await in the semi-final. Surely that is a Brazil

:55:46. > :55:58.score? Game, set and match. So, Brazil go through to face Russia.

:55:59. > :56:03.Relief and joy, inside the stadium. After what happened to the women in

:56:04. > :56:06.this very stadium 24 hours ago, the last this nation needed, some might

:56:07. > :56:11.say the last this competition needed, was for the men's Brazilian

:56:12. > :56:17.volleyball team to go out. They have rallied and taken the first -- taken
