:02:03. > :02:07.Zealanders are very good. Let's show you the live sport in action at the

:02:08. > :02:11.moment, to watch football you can do so, currently Nigeria 0- one Germany

:02:37. > :02:41.are showing golf, the first round of the women's competition, Charley

:02:42. > :02:44.Hull and Katrina Matthew going for Great Britain. Very strong Korean

:02:45. > :02:49.challenge, though, they have the best players in the world.

:02:50. > :02:56.The hockey coming up is a repeat of the bronze medal match from London

:02:57. > :02:59.2012 which Great Britain won, Kate Richardson-Walsh playing with her

:03:00. > :03:03.jaw in a sort of mask because she had broken her jaw earlier in the

:03:04. > :03:06.competition. Britain's women can either be very good, they won the

:03:07. > :03:11.Euro hockey championships for the first time last year, or off-colour,

:03:12. > :03:15.when they finished seven out of eight at the world challenge in

:03:16. > :03:17.December. In Rio they've been an fabulous form, this is how they've

:03:18. > :03:33.reached the semifinal stages. Back and goal from Alex Danson, an

:03:34. > :03:41.absolute beauty. Great Britain have got their Olympic hockey tournament

:03:42. > :03:46.off to dream start. It's bundled through into the goal by Alex

:03:47. > :03:55.Danson. That will be that. India 03 Great Britain. -- India 0- three

:03:56. > :04:00.Great Britain. Great Britain have won. They remain unbeaten in the

:04:01. > :04:06.Olympic tournament so far. Great Britain versus Japan. Scored,

:04:07. > :04:10.finished off beautifully from height by Nicola White. Great Britain have

:04:11. > :04:18.notched another win. Whoever wins this will go into the quarterfinal

:04:19. > :04:22.having won pool B. Goal for Alex Danson. Maximum points, five wins

:04:23. > :04:29.out of five, Great Britain at the moment the top team in the Olympic

:04:30. > :04:32.tournament. Great Britain in white tonight, she scores, Great Britain

:04:33. > :04:40.in front. Georgie Twigg fires it in. Easy finish. What an easy finish for

:04:41. > :04:46.Lily Owsley. Heading for the Olympic semifinal. Next stop, New Zealand.

:04:47. > :04:53.Unbeaten so far and giving Kate Richardson-Walsh every reason to

:04:54. > :04:58.smile, determined to send him off in style. She's the most capped

:04:59. > :05:02.international in hockey history, in terms of our country, 360

:05:03. > :05:04.appearances, she made her debut in the last century, and she has been

:05:05. > :05:19.captain for the last 13 years. I've been in the senior programme

:05:20. > :05:22.for 17 years, I've changed, the game has changed. The lead up to Sydney

:05:23. > :05:29.we were wearing men's polo shirts and massive ID skirts, it was a real

:05:30. > :05:35.trial to get us all together because we weren't a full-time programme.

:05:36. > :05:38.Cut to now, we're full-time, night and day, it's completely different,

:05:39. > :05:48.to see the transition has been amazing. Ouch. London 2012, broken

:05:49. > :05:52.jaw, heroic performances, tears, we remind us of those experiences four

:05:53. > :05:55.years ago. When I look back to the London Olympics it feels like I'm

:05:56. > :06:00.watching a movie and there is somebody else in it, it's surreal.

:06:01. > :06:04.To fracture my job, it's the worst injury, touch wood, I sustained. To

:06:05. > :06:08.have done it in the first game of the home Olympics is the most

:06:09. > :06:13.unfortunate thing ever. I remember vividly watching the team playing

:06:14. > :06:20.career, I was in the hospital, had my operation, I was so calm and

:06:21. > :06:23.proud. -- Korea. All the work we done on the pitch was there for me

:06:24. > :06:27.to watch on TV, when I was told I could rejoin the team, we're going

:06:28. > :06:33.for this with our lives. It was an amazing two weeks. You are seen as

:06:34. > :06:38.money for the team. I am a mother hen, I care, as we all do, we spend

:06:39. > :06:42.so much time with each other you become so involved in each other's

:06:43. > :06:46.lives, you really care about the person on the pitch and the person

:06:47. > :06:51.off the pitch, and what goes around their life and their relationships.

:06:52. > :06:55.It's all part and parcel of Kevin for each other, which makes us tight

:06:56. > :06:58.as a group. Do you consider yourself an ambassador not just for Great

:06:59. > :07:03.Britain hockey, but hockey in general? Absolutely, we know the

:07:04. > :07:07.Olympics is a massive shop window and hockey, a sport played by a huge

:07:08. > :07:11.number of people in the country in terms of media coverage, it's a

:07:12. > :07:15.minority sport, we have to take the opportunity and grab it. We are 31

:07:16. > :07:19.women, all different ages, backgrounds, likes and dislikes,

:07:20. > :07:23.we're a great range of role models to send into the country to say it

:07:24. > :07:27.doesn't matter if you are small, tall, big, whatever, you can play

:07:28. > :07:32.hockey. It's what we represent in the squad. Fourth Olympics, is it

:07:33. > :07:41.possible this might be the last one for you? Yes, I think it's time, I

:07:42. > :07:45.just feel like it's come to a natural end, I feel like I'm 36, my

:07:46. > :07:49.body's still feeling really good, still really fit and still loving

:07:50. > :07:53.it. I think there are challenges ahead for me but not on the

:07:54. > :07:57.international stage. I'm taking one day at a time, the old boring stuff,

:07:58. > :08:01.focusing on that, then afterwards, what will be will be.

:08:02. > :08:05.I know everybody watching, everybody playing with Kate would love her

:08:06. > :08:12.final match to be a gold-medal match in Rio. What is the likelihood of

:08:13. > :08:17.that happening? Mel Clewlow is at Deodoro, you know K-12. The sort of

:08:18. > :08:23.person she is, what inspires in the team around her? She's an

:08:24. > :08:27.inspirational leader, I feel fortunate to have played in the same

:08:28. > :08:31.team as her and had her as captain. I've never seen her as focused as

:08:32. > :08:35.she is here right now, it really has spread through the entire team. We

:08:36. > :08:39.can see the team warming up behind, Black sticks as well, what is your

:08:40. > :08:45.prediction about how the match will go? Thanks for that. I don't know,

:08:46. > :08:49.it's a rerun of 2012 bronze medal, whoever wins will make history for

:08:50. > :08:53.their country. I genuinely think there will be one goal in it to

:08:54. > :08:56.either side, my heart without a doubt says Great Britain because of

:08:57. > :09:00.the way they've been playing in the tournament so far. But the Black

:09:01. > :09:03.sticks aren't an easy pushover, GB beat them six weeks ago at the

:09:04. > :09:09.champions Trophy 4-3 and the Black sticks beat them in December 2-1, so

:09:10. > :09:14.it'll be a close game. It seems that it's so well spread out, the British

:09:15. > :09:19.team, everybody scoring goals from all over, it's not reliant on one

:09:20. > :09:23.player. Yeah, that's the difference, London 2012 we relied on Crista

:09:24. > :09:26.Cullen and Alex Danson to score the goals, they've spread it out really

:09:27. > :09:34.well. You can see the confidence in Lily Owsley, Sophie Bray, it's

:09:35. > :09:37.really pleasing to see. It's tough for the opposition coach to work out

:09:38. > :09:41.the weaknesses. So thorough has Great Britain's preparation being,

:09:42. > :09:46.they've recreated the pitch they see behind you, isn't it the same

:09:47. > :09:50.they've been training on at Bisham Abbey? It is, credit to the

:09:51. > :09:55.governing body they are prepared to go to any lengths necessary to

:09:56. > :09:59.prepare the team. They've had a social media ban as well, it really

:10:00. > :10:02.does show in the way the team has played until now, they are fully

:10:03. > :10:09.focused and have one aim, to win the gold medal. Let's hope, fingers

:10:10. > :10:13.crossed, they can do so. 9pm is push off time, we'll be back at Deodoro

:10:14. > :10:16.shortly. Earlier we showed you some BMX from the men's competition, Liam

:10:17. > :10:24.Phillips getting through in tenth place. What about the women? It's an

:10:25. > :10:25.amazing course here. The ramps, the jumping is one of the coolest sports

:10:26. > :10:44.on offer in Rio. Stephanie Hernandez. Almost ready to

:10:45. > :10:52.go. A rare Olympic medal opportunity for Venezuelan.

:10:53. > :11:01.35.251 seconds is the time to beat here goes last year's world

:11:02. > :11:09.champion. Quickest at the bottom of the start ramp attacking this first

:11:10. > :11:20.return. Flying around turn one. Searing pace. Can she carry it on?

:11:21. > :11:24.Still quickest at this stage, just one straight to go. Even visually

:11:25. > :11:29.the way she's riding looks to be the best rider we've seen so far, as she

:11:30. > :11:37.crosses the line. Straight to the top. She's the fastest, no surprise

:11:38. > :11:41.there. Laura Smulders from the Netherlands, the Olympic bronze

:11:42. > :11:46.medallist from London, world silver in the time trial this year. Having

:11:47. > :11:49.previously won the world crown a couple of years ago. First in her

:11:50. > :11:55.home World Cup, the last big race these riders had. In May. Race three

:11:56. > :12:09.of the World Cup series... Smulders. Will she try to clear the triple as

:12:10. > :12:14.well? No, is the answer. Playing it safe, cautious from her. Second

:12:15. > :12:20.place at the moment. Only a fraction of a second off the quickest time.

:12:21. > :12:28.Carving that turned nicely. Maintaining momentum through this

:12:29. > :12:31.section. Smulders not taking any chances, making sure there are no

:12:32. > :12:36.early dramas for her. This time looks as though it's going to be a

:12:37. > :12:41.big one. Indeed it is, the new fastest time. For Laura Smulders

:12:42. > :12:47.from the Netherlands. Very impressive performance, really

:12:48. > :12:51.consistent, no major mistakes. The weather is quite a factor, even

:12:52. > :12:56.though it's a sunny day, the wind is interesting for cyclists. The wind

:12:57. > :13:00.is quite changeable, ten or 15 minutes ago it was blowing in a

:13:01. > :13:05.completely different direction to the one we can see it's blowing now,

:13:06. > :13:13.the flags flickering quite stiffly on the far side.

:13:14. > :13:20.Caroline Buchanan, this year's world time trial champion. She is the one

:13:21. > :13:27.they are all going to be looking at in this particular discipline and

:13:28. > :13:31.this time trial effort. Really aggressive, attacking the jumps,

:13:32. > :13:35.looking super-smooth. One of the best hopes of cycling success for

:13:36. > :13:38.Australia going into these games, never mind the current situation

:13:39. > :13:47.where so many Aussies have underperformed on two wheels. She's

:13:48. > :13:53.into the lead. Can she hang on? Can she carry it over the line into

:13:54. > :13:59.first place? She can, the world champion makes a good start to her

:14:00. > :14:08.Olympic campaign. And the Colombian fans are making a noise now because

:14:09. > :14:13.it's Pajon. Up on the ramp. She seems to deal with pressure so well.

:14:14. > :14:16.As the home favourite in the World Championships, she brushed all

:14:17. > :14:19.attention aside and won the race with apparent ease. She's waving at

:14:20. > :14:28.the crowd, relaxing, smiling, let's see what she can do here.

:14:29. > :14:36.Riders ready, watch the gate... Rego is the world champion, the last ride

:14:37. > :14:42.off in the time trial. All the Colombian fans in the crowd

:14:43. > :14:45.screaming themselves hoarse. Cleared the triples with ease. Storming

:14:46. > :14:52.through, quickest time so far. Super-smooth. Super-smooth. The sort

:14:53. > :14:57.of start we were expecting to see from the world champion. Can she

:14:58. > :15:02.carry it on here through this rhythm section into the final turn? Looking

:15:03. > :15:12.like she's in a class of her own, so impressive. Smooth, quick, stylish,

:15:13. > :15:15.fastest, Pajon of Colombia. There you go, world champion, steps up and

:15:16. > :15:19.performs on the biggest stage, really impressive. Pajon just seem

:15:20. > :15:25.to be head and shoulders above the rest. Only two tenths of a second,

:15:26. > :15:27.but Buchanan looking strong, too. It's hard to look past Pajon for the

:15:28. > :15:38.gold medal at this stage. That was Chris Hoy doing commentary

:15:39. > :15:43.with Simon Brotherton. He loves BMX, as well. We are building up to the

:15:44. > :15:47.hockey, Great Britain against New Zealand, but before we join that

:15:48. > :15:52.live, there is time to reflect on the other side of Rio. We see the

:15:53. > :15:58.glossy side but there are huge problems with poverty. We visited

:15:59. > :16:11.one where sport is used to help to inspire people.

:16:12. > :16:23.Today I have come to a safe area in a favela. Welcome. This is in 11

:16:24. > :16:26.different communities and this one, the kids here we work with are

:16:27. > :16:32.facing issues of poverty, family breakdown. There are not job

:16:33. > :16:38.opportunities for their family, so it is a poor part of town and one of

:16:39. > :16:45.the dangerous parts of town. There are police here. They fight with the

:16:46. > :16:52.local drug traffickers. This is it. Because you are on the

:16:53. > :16:56.Hill, you hear the gunfire. It is amazing. There could be automatic

:16:57. > :17:02.gunfire and the kids continue to play. We needed a place where the

:17:03. > :17:06.police and drugs traffickers agreed not to fight and so we created a

:17:07. > :17:15.safe place for the kids to come and play football. This is one of our

:17:16. > :17:18.coaches at the safe space programme. Have you seen a real change of the

:17:19. > :17:25.young people who come here? They are more happy. They are not on the

:17:26. > :17:30.street. Doing fighting or something like that. The reality is they are

:17:31. > :17:34.the brothers and sisters of the traffickers, who grew up in the

:17:35. > :17:40.community, so working with them is important so age 13, 14, they are

:17:41. > :17:45.not trafficking drugs, picking up the gun. Today we have an important

:17:46. > :17:54.guest. His name is Darren Campbell. People told me kids like me do not

:17:55. > :18:00.win Olympic gold medals. So, for me to win the gold medal, it proved a

:18:01. > :18:09.lot of people wrong. That is why I believe in these guys.

:18:10. > :18:18.Why do you enjoy coming here, Eric? TRANSLATION: I like to come here

:18:19. > :18:22.because it is a really nice place to play and if anything happens, it is

:18:23. > :18:30.near my house and I can just go home really quickly.

:18:31. > :18:36.Do you feel safe when you are here? How do these guys feel about the

:18:37. > :18:40.Olympics being just their? TRANSLATION: I don't really like the

:18:41. > :18:44.Olympics much because in Brazil we are in the middle of a crisis but I

:18:45. > :18:50.like to support the athletes because it is their dream. I think the girl

:18:51. > :18:56.from judo was happy, not just because she won medal for Brazil,

:18:57. > :19:02.but she showed that someone from a favela can do this. It is about

:19:03. > :19:09.developing the kids on the right path. The Olympics, it gives them a

:19:10. > :19:13.goal, a dream. Sport really does have the power to change lives. You

:19:14. > :19:18.can see this safe area really gives these kids the opportunity to feel

:19:19. > :19:23.the part of something, respect something, get the values that sport

:19:24. > :19:28.gives. For me, that is what is Olympic legacy should be all about.

:19:29. > :19:32.Darren Campbell on one of the project is trying to spread the

:19:33. > :19:36.message of support and help with kids' fitness and health and their

:19:37. > :19:40.confidence and giving them something to do that will keep them busy and

:19:41. > :19:45.give them a purpose in life and to have fun, which is the point of it

:19:46. > :19:50.all. Shortly we will be joining live the second semifinal of the women's

:19:51. > :19:57.hockey. The first semifinal was contested between the Netherlands

:19:58. > :20:06.who are going for a third title, and they were up against Germany. This

:20:07. > :20:16.is what happened. It was definitely Schroeder initially. They have

:20:17. > :20:31.Muller on the top. Muller! It is dangerous. It is in. Muller

:20:32. > :20:34.unleashes a bullet from the top. The Dutch goalkeeper has to be

:20:35. > :20:42.disappointed with this because it went straight down the middle. She

:20:43. > :21:03.should know what Muller is going to do. 1-0, Germany. Oh, that is a

:21:04. > :21:08.great goal. That is a beauty. Maartje Paumen is regarded as one of

:21:09. > :21:14.the best in the world at this. That was an absolute ripper down the

:21:15. > :21:18.stick side of Reynolds, who took half a step to her left and that

:21:19. > :21:24.probably beats her. The driving force behind the Dutch team has got

:21:25. > :21:28.them back in it. The penalty shoot out for a guaranteed Olympic medal

:21:29. > :21:43.and a place in the gold medal match is about to commence. Off the

:21:44. > :21:50.goalkeeper and in. A good start. And it is in, off the goalkeeper and in.

:21:51. > :22:02.We had to wait as that one floated towards the goal but found the

:22:03. > :22:07.target. Hoog. Saved. Terrific goalkeeping. Reynolds watched every

:22:08. > :22:13.step of the way as she went to the circle.

:22:14. > :22:18.Up to the edge. It is in. She makes sure for Germany. Next up, for

:22:19. > :22:42.benevolence. Marloes Keetels is missed. Has to

:22:43. > :22:50.make a save here. It is saved. It is over. Joyce Sombroek has given the

:22:51. > :23:03.Dutch a lifeline with that. Thought about taking it long. Great penalty.

:23:04. > :23:08.Taking her time for Germany. Running out of options, running out of

:23:09. > :23:19.seconds. Joyce Sombroek has got the job done. All square.

:23:20. > :23:34.Kelly Jonker against Reynolds. Kelly Jonker did not move Reynolds enough.

:23:35. > :23:41.Terms. Joyce Sombroek makes the save. We are into sudden death. It

:23:42. > :23:47.started so well for the Germans, but Joyce Sombroek has shown what a

:23:48. > :23:53.quality goalkeeper she is. And now the sudden death situation. The

:23:54. > :24:03.German captain against the Dutch keeper. Oh, she squeezed it in

:24:04. > :24:11.somehow. What a finish. An extraordinary angle. From that

:24:12. > :24:19.angle, diving. Take a bow. Reynolds has saved. Gets another chance and

:24:20. > :24:29.makes no mistake. The whistle goes. Eight seconds. Coming at speed. No.

:24:30. > :24:40.Wide of the gold. She tried to go through the legs of Joyce Sombroek.

:24:41. > :24:45.Hoog, she scores! The Netherlands are guaranteed a medal in the

:24:46. > :24:48.Olympic hockey tournament. The Dutch have done it. The Dutch are in the

:24:49. > :24:58.Olympic final. Oh, my word, having seen the tension

:24:59. > :25:04.of the penalty shoot out, I hope the same thing does not happen in this

:25:05. > :25:08.match. We are not far from push off in the second semifinal. Will it be

:25:09. > :25:22.Great Britain or New Zealand who will join them. Let's head to

:25:23. > :25:28.Deodoro and join Rishi the. Simon, when people talk about a team

:25:29. > :25:31.doing well, they tend to talk in cliches, saying everybody is pulling

:25:32. > :25:35.their weight. There are no cliches about this team, every member is on

:25:36. > :25:44.the top of their form. The time when they had to rely on Alex Danson

:25:45. > :25:51.scoring goals has gone. It is backed up by an unbelievable defensive

:25:52. > :25:55.platform. With Hinch at the centre of it. We will just take a pause for

:25:56. > :27:20.the national anthems. # Long live our noble Queen

:27:21. > :27:25.# God save our Queen # Sent her

:27:26. > :27:47.Happy and glorious # Longs to reign over us

:27:48. > :27:53.# God Save The Queen. Two passionate renditions of their

:27:54. > :27:56.national anthem. The coach highlighted the dangers of the pace

:27:57. > :28:01.of this New Zealand side. How dangerous is it? It is huge. One of

:28:02. > :28:09.the fastest sides against any number of players.

:28:10. > :28:15.The New Zealand coach is to worry about the talent is spread across

:28:16. > :28:21.many people. You cannot pinpoint a defensive tactic to negate it. Time

:28:22. > :28:26.to head to the commentary box. History beckons for both these

:28:27. > :28:30.sides. Great Britain have only won a bronze medal so far, the women's

:28:31. > :28:36.team, in competition. Mel Clewlow and Max Chilton are standing by in

:28:37. > :28:46.the commentary box. Good evening, everybody. A terrific

:28:47. > :28:55.atmosphere here tonight at the Deodoro north Rio. Great Britain,

:28:56. > :28:59.all in red, in their huddle. It is a warm evening. Stifling today. 37

:29:00. > :29:05.degrees during the first semifinal that got under way at midday. That

:29:06. > :29:11.was won by the Dutch in a penalty shoot out over the Germans. The

:29:12. > :29:16.temperature has gone down to 26 degrees, but it is still warm. Danny

:29:17. > :29:21.Kerry has overseen the progress of this brilliant Great Britain side.

:29:22. > :29:25.They have got to the semifinal, can they go all the way? Alex Danson

:29:26. > :29:38.could be crucial. Sophie Bray was outstanding in the quarterfinal win

:29:39. > :29:44.over Spain. The umpires for tonight's semifinal...

:29:45. > :29:47.The reward for the winner a place in the Olympics final to face the

:29:48. > :29:53.Netherlands. The losers will go to the bronze medal match to take on

:29:54. > :29:58.Germany. The crowd are counting down. Here we go, the second

:29:59. > :30:03.semifinal in the women's Olympic hockey tournament is under way.

:30:04. > :30:09.Sophie Bray on the left. Inside to Nicola White. Pushes is a downer

:30:10. > :30:17.that flank. New Zealand called upon to defend. Townsend. Bought Susannah

:30:18. > :30:21.Townsend might have got the run of the ball. That's a good evening to

:30:22. > :30:25.Mel Clewlow. This is the game we've really been looking forward to, all

:30:26. > :30:29.the build-up has been about London 2012 and Great Britain are on the

:30:30. > :30:33.right side of that result four years ago. The teams are different, eight

:30:34. > :30:38.players from Great Britain returning to the Olympics, six from New

:30:39. > :30:41.Zealand. The game has moved on massively in that format the year

:30:42. > :30:46.cycle and both teams have been at the top of their games, it'll be a

:30:47. > :30:50.cracking semifinal. The pace of New Zealand, so talked about, is evident

:30:51. > :30:53.within the first minute of the match, as they get down to the edge

:30:54. > :30:58.of the Great Britain Circle. Susannah Townsend, normally upfront,

:30:59. > :31:06.back defending, getting the job done. Crista Cullen, the veteran,

:31:07. > :31:10.will step over to restart. Should go aerial, and does. Looking for Alex

:31:11. > :31:15.Danson, dance and's first touch is perfect, then loses out to a strong

:31:16. > :31:22.tackle. -- damson's first touch. Interesting to hear, we are used to

:31:23. > :31:30.the surface, that's where we are, it's another training game, taking

:31:31. > :31:38.the focus of what the game means. New Zealand looking dangerous, no

:31:39. > :31:43.penalty corner awarded. Danson as space. Also has Hannah Macleod in

:31:44. > :31:47.front of her. Nicola White has been on the scoresheet a couple of times.

:31:48. > :31:55.Now Hannah Macleod. Giselle Ansley behind her. -- Anthony behind her.

:31:56. > :32:03.Susannah Townsend with this deal. Great from Townsend, all the way to

:32:04. > :32:06.the edge of the circle. Nicola White restart quickly and Crista Cullen

:32:07. > :32:12.finds herself in a forward position, crosses the ball, positive start

:32:13. > :32:16.from Great Britain. The game started at cracking pace, if it continues

:32:17. > :32:19.like this for 60 minutes we really are in for a treat. Whoever is

:32:20. > :32:23.playing left forward for Great Britain will have to do a job on the

:32:24. > :32:26.person on the ball right now, Stacey Michelsen. She was one of the world

:32:27. > :32:32.junior players of the year not so long ago. She is a linchpin for this

:32:33. > :32:35.Kiwi team. Danson on a break, just lost control and lost out with

:32:36. > :32:41.possession. Nicola White has done a of running in the first couple of

:32:42. > :32:46.minutes of this match. Giselle Ansley has had a really good

:32:47. > :32:50.tournament. Heart to find any weaklings in the Great Britain team,

:32:51. > :32:55.they've played superbly throughout. Victories against Australia, India,

:32:56. > :32:59.Argentina, 3-2 against Argentina. They defeated Japan and the USA

:33:00. > :33:10.before coming away 3-1 winners against Spain in the quarterfinal 48

:33:11. > :33:18.hours ago. McLaren will be one to watch as and when penalty corners,

:33:19. > :33:23.New Zealand's way. New Zealand inside Great Britain's 23. Stacey

:33:24. > :33:36.Michelsen. Pushed away by Laura Unsworth. Covered by Susannah

:33:37. > :33:40.Townsend. Georgie Twigg on the Great Britain bench, she'll play a part.

:33:41. > :33:44.Scored in the quarterfinal which will have done her confidence the

:33:45. > :33:48.power of good, coming in from the injections but, tapping in from

:33:49. > :33:53.close range. As you say, there hasn't been a player in this team

:33:54. > :33:59.that has put in a poor performance. Shona McCallin claiming she was

:34:00. > :34:08.battered from behind. Daesh she was. The South African umpire has said,

:34:09. > :34:13.it's my fault, I got it wrong. Townsend. She has great pace, plays

:34:14. > :34:17.it out to the right to find Sam Quek. Sam Quek looking for Helen

:34:18. > :34:22.Richardson-Walsh, slide it inside. Into the circle. This is worrying

:34:23. > :34:26.from a New Zealand point of view, they need to get out of this tight

:34:27. > :34:38.corner, and they will do so gradually. Look at the Great Britain

:34:39. > :34:44.sticks surrounding the ball. K Richardson-Walsh, the captain, all

:34:45. > :34:47.the way back to Giselle Ansley inside her own half. Laura Unsworth

:34:48. > :34:50.has been absolutely outstanding throughout this Olympic tournament,

:34:51. > :34:58.since that's downward. Possibly too much pace for Alex Danson. Sophie

:34:59. > :35:03.Bray intercepts. Will we see magic from Sophie Bray? Danson to her

:35:04. > :35:18.left. Townsend is in control, send it back. Of Zealand foot. They

:35:19. > :35:25.continue. Sam Quek. Helen Richardson-Walsh. Townsend. Lovely

:35:26. > :35:29.pass forward. Between Townsend and Helen Richardson-Walsh. One of the

:35:30. > :35:31.driving forces behind British hockey, Helen Richardson-Walsh,

:35:32. > :35:35.she's had injury problems through her career but this is possibly one

:35:36. > :35:38.of the best month I've seen her play, she's been phenomenal upfront,

:35:39. > :35:45.hopefully she can continue in this game. Shona McCallin inside to

:35:46. > :35:52.Sophie Bray. Helen Richardson-Walsh claims she was barged off the ball,

:35:53. > :35:58.fair claim. Shona McCallin with the free hit. She'll get another go.

:35:59. > :36:06.Goes back to Kate Richardson-Walsh, now Laura Unsworth on the right.

:36:07. > :36:11.One thing they did exceptionally well against Spain on the other

:36:12. > :36:14.reading, particularly in the first half, they played too bulky, but the

:36:15. > :36:18.ball, moved it, then supported the person on the ball. It'll be a

:36:19. > :36:23.harder task against the Black sticks, because they are at equal

:36:24. > :36:28.fitness level to the British side, they are higher than Britain in the

:36:29. > :36:32.world rankings. Could be a high paced, high tempo game, exactly what

:36:33. > :36:40.we want to see. Laura Unsworth in space. Behind Sam Quek, tries to

:36:41. > :36:47.threaded through to Townsend. Picked out by New Zealand, who can regain

:36:48. > :36:51.their shape. Kayla Whitelock in a collision with Sophie Bray and Great

:36:52. > :36:55.Britain get the decision. There is a card coming New Zealand's way.

:36:56. > :37:04.Whitelock will miss the next couple of minutes. Sam Quek doing excellent

:37:05. > :37:14.work, get that far up the circle, hasn't given it up yet. . Great

:37:15. > :37:19.Britain with a player over. As Kayla Whitelock takes her suspension.

:37:20. > :37:26.Georgie Twigg might get a card herself. I can't see any umpire hand

:37:27. > :37:30.going into a pocket, Twigg's got away with that one. Kayla Whitelock

:37:31. > :37:34.so important for New Zealand, took time out to have a baby last year,

:37:35. > :37:37.it's great to see her back. One of the reasons, she said, was London

:37:38. > :37:43.left a bittersweet taste in her mouth having finished fourth. She

:37:44. > :37:48.realised that she wanted to be a part of the black sticks programme

:37:49. > :37:54.still. Great interplay apart from the final touch from Lily Owsley

:37:55. > :38:01.which came up short, but Shona McCallin, fast break on the right

:38:02. > :38:05.for Gemma Flynn. Runs into Unsworth. Flynn continues on her way, slide it

:38:06. > :38:10.inside, New Zealand threatening, there is the captain to clean things

:38:11. > :38:18.up for Great Britain. Sophie Bray. Lily Owsley to her left, can they

:38:19. > :38:22.create something here? Looking dangerous, Owsley goes to the

:38:23. > :38:26.backhand shot. It's behind. Started by the interception by Kate

:38:27. > :38:31.Richardson-Walsh. Seeing Great Britain break at speed like that was

:38:32. > :38:35.great. They made simple decisions as well, Helen Richardson-Walsh rolling

:38:36. > :38:39.the ball to Sophie Bray. And fantastic skills near the circle

:38:40. > :38:49.edge by Owsley, couldn't get the backhand shot away. Just over six

:38:50. > :38:54.minutes left in the first quarter, no score here in this Olympic

:38:55. > :39:02.semifinal, 0-0. Georgie Twigg. Crista Cullen. Kate

:39:03. > :39:10.Richardson-Walsh. A for Hannah Macleod. New Zealand now back up to

:39:11. > :39:14.11, Kayla Whitelock has made our way to the dugout for her break, her

:39:15. > :39:20.place taken by Samantha Charlton, the number 13.

:39:21. > :39:29.Stacey Michelsen for New Zealand. Shadowed all the way by Lily Owsley.

:39:30. > :39:33.Michelsen has made a lot of yardage, she's fast and strong. She's fed

:39:34. > :39:44.that down the line to Charlotte Harrison. Harrison rocked by Sam

:39:45. > :39:48.Quek. -- robbed. Anita McLaren has possession for New Zealand, tries to

:39:49. > :40:04.lift it over Nicola White. Great Britain's ball.

:40:05. > :40:09.Bit of a slip-up from the captain, Kate Richardson-Walsh, the captain.

:40:10. > :40:19.Threatening, Great Britain have conceded a penalty corner. Confusion

:40:20. > :40:22.in the Great Britain circle. Kate Richardson-Walsh looking for a long

:40:23. > :40:29.slap pass out of defence. Unfortunately got caught in two

:40:30. > :40:34.reminds. Not often you see her make those kinds of mistakes. New Zealand

:40:35. > :40:38.have got threats particularly in any to McLaren, the 32, on the right of

:40:39. > :40:43.the picture now. She has worked really hard on penalty corner

:40:44. > :40:48.flicking routine, and proves you don't have to be big and strong

:40:49. > :40:52.necessarily to actually be a corner specialist. We look out for McLaren

:40:53. > :41:01.and possibly Thompson, the number 60. It's come to Thompson. It's

:41:02. > :41:06.wide. They were probably aiming for Gemma Flynn in the picture there, no

:41:07. > :41:11.right post. Really well executed, Gemma Flynn's got to have her stick

:41:12. > :41:14.on the floor, no doubt about that in my mind. Doesn't matter whether Liz

:41:15. > :41:19.Thomson's on their tissue to score, if you're coming in on that

:41:20. > :41:23.deflection, you've got to have your stick on the floor, simple tap in

:41:24. > :41:29.there for Gemma Flynn. The fiance of the great Richie McCaw. Possibly the

:41:30. > :41:33.finest New Zealand rugby player, rugby union player, of all time. Is

:41:34. > :41:37.in the stand somewhere apparently supporting this evening.

:41:38. > :41:41.Intercepted, good for New Zealand as Flynn picks it up and gets to the

:41:42. > :41:44.end of the circle. Richardson-Walsh makes no mistake this time, this is

:41:45. > :41:52.good interplay on the left flank, Anna MacLeod has got control, she's

:41:53. > :41:56.got Danson to her left. Danson towards Annesley, towards the

:41:57. > :41:58.circle. Owsley should get there again. New Zealand get there first.

:41:59. > :42:24.-- Ansley. Almost away, Lily Owsley. That ran straight through Susannah

:42:25. > :42:27.Townsend's legs, but it's fallen kindly for Lily Owsley. Who has

:42:28. > :42:34.drifted into the circle and out again. Nicola White missed hers on

:42:35. > :42:42.the left. Gemma Flynn fires that inside. New Zealand coming forward

:42:43. > :42:47.at pace. Smith. Smith to the edge. They've got a shot on Goldust no,

:42:48. > :42:53.it's wide again! Betrayer Webster with the effort, which was wide of

:42:54. > :43:01.Maddie Hinch's goal. -- Petrea Webster. A snapshot by Webster, Kate

:43:02. > :43:04.Richardson-Walsh just manages to get herself back in there and possibly

:43:05. > :43:09.put her off. Who is marking Gemma Flynn on the far post? Can't give

:43:10. > :43:18.her too many opportunities or she will put one in. Beautiful pass from

:43:19. > :43:21.Danson to Sophie Bray. She was the meat in a black sticks and which

:43:22. > :43:31.there, but she's done OK. Penalty corner. -- black sticks sandwich.

:43:32. > :43:36.Quick free hit. She saw the umpire's decision, rolls the ball to Danson,

:43:37. > :43:38.and to her favourite backhand command of the left shin guard of

:43:39. > :43:49.Stacey Michelsen, the first penalty corner to Great Britain. Kate

:43:50. > :43:54.Richardson-Walsh was in the huddle, she has headed back to her own half.

:43:55. > :44:00.It leaves Crista Cullen and Giselle Ansley poised to try and get Great

:44:01. > :44:05.Britain on the scoresheet. The injection will come from Hannah

:44:06. > :44:07.Macleod. Laura Unsworth would normally have the trapping duties.

:44:08. > :44:19.We'll see what follows. :. Saved. Sally Rutherford but was

:44:20. > :44:26.alert, got down shop to her right, pushed it wide. -- Crista Cullen.

:44:27. > :44:31.It'll give Sally Rutherford confidence, she's the first

:44:32. > :44:36.goalkeeper to make a saving the game with two minutes left the clock.

:44:37. > :44:40.Four periods of 15 minutes to give us a match time of one hour, if they

:44:41. > :44:44.are level at the end of the hour we'll have a penalty shoot out. We

:44:45. > :44:48.had one in the Germany Netherlands semi-earlier. Great Britain

:44:49. > :44:51.threatening. Whitelock is there to clean up for the black sticks.

:44:52. > :45:02.Didn't go very far. Blocked by Kate Richardson-Walsh.

:45:03. > :45:12.A good pass from Hollie Webb, because she was under pressure.

:45:13. > :45:17.Foul, Laura Unsworth on the opposite side of the peel. Two world-class

:45:18. > :45:20.passes by Hollie Webb, one out to Crista Cullen. Important to know

:45:21. > :45:27.what to do with the ball before you receive it for that reason. She was

:45:28. > :45:29.closed down by two, three players and she had the calmness to roll it

:45:30. > :45:38.out to the left-hand side. Nicola White ran into trouble. New

:45:39. > :45:57.Zealand regain possession. Sally Rutherford again. Probably

:45:58. > :46:03.closer than I first thought it was. The last 30 seconds of the quarter.

:46:04. > :46:08.New Zealand looking dangerous once again. Hollie Webb with the block.

:46:09. > :46:15.New Zealand still have time in the first period to create something.

:46:16. > :46:21.Time is running out quickly, though. They still haven't taken the free

:46:22. > :46:28.hit but now they get cracking. Laura Unsworth slaps it down.

:46:29. > :46:41.15 minutes done. No goals. Rishi. A couple of good chances for New

:46:42. > :46:46.Zealand. When they got a chance they looked dangerous. They got a penalty

:46:47. > :46:50.corner and that was an opportunity for Gemma Flynn. As a defensive unit

:46:51. > :46:55.you cannot cover everything but there was no post a man on that side

:46:56. > :47:00.of the goal. Flynn should have taken the lead for New Zealand. Chances at

:47:01. > :47:06.the time were few and far between but they had another chance quickly

:47:07. > :47:11.after. Webster has a shot and does not connect. Flynn on the back post.

:47:12. > :47:16.Get in those positions, sooner or later you will take a chance and tap

:47:17. > :47:21.it in. Looking at how the teams are set up, GB look comfortable in their

:47:22. > :47:26.own half, pushing forward, but when New Zealand attack, they looked like

:47:27. > :47:31.they have more pace. They are happy to sit back. Great Britain have

:47:32. > :47:35.probably had more possession and had chances around the edge of the

:47:36. > :47:40.Circle but when they turn it over, the pace of New Zealand and support

:47:41. > :47:45.running has caused the GB defence problems. Is there any sign of any

:47:46. > :47:51.nerves? We saw a rare lapse from Kate Richardson-Walsh. It was a lack

:47:52. > :47:56.of decision-making in the circle, it was fleeting and forgotten. At the

:47:57. > :48:00.moment there is good ball-handling, technical skill and a good pace. You

:48:01. > :48:05.hope it will not come from a mistake but we have not seen many mistakes.

:48:06. > :48:09.There will be a four minute break because of the heat and we have more

:48:10. > :48:14.time to talk through what has been happening will stop I wanted to talk

:48:15. > :48:22.about the form of the players and I mentioned everybody was on form.

:48:23. > :48:26.From Maddie Hinch in goal. Crista Cullen, Richardson-Walsh. Alex

:48:27. > :48:32.Danson. Have you seen that, in your time, a squad at the Olympics, men

:48:33. > :48:37.or women, looking like that? In short, no. The Olympics is an

:48:38. > :48:42.unbelievable competition and quite often you see the emotion of it

:48:43. > :48:45.affecting players. They can be world-class at everything else but

:48:46. > :48:48.you bring them in the Olympic environment and the village and the

:48:49. > :48:53.superstars that surround it and it affects them stop here, Great

:48:54. > :48:59.Britain have shut themselves off, going into the competition as a

:49:00. > :49:02.unit, doing a social media ban. Is influencing their performance and

:49:03. > :49:07.they have been outstandingly consistent. New Zealand coming back

:49:08. > :49:12.on. Danny Kerry, what you think is the message he wants to get across?

:49:13. > :49:20.Reduce the turnover ball. At times Great Britain carried it into

:49:21. > :49:24.contact. There -- the decision-making has been good at

:49:25. > :49:29.times. Don't let them transfer. Do the legwork from forward to prevent

:49:30. > :49:33.the outward pass going back and transferring the ball.

:49:34. > :49:37.That is hopefully what they will do. We had a four minute break, usually

:49:38. > :49:38.two minutes between the first and second periods, because of the heat.

:49:39. > :49:48.Back to the commentary box. The players are out one minute

:49:49. > :49:54.before the restart time. They are clearly eager to carry on. The four

:49:55. > :50:00.minute break was introduced in the semifinal played at midday. It was a

:50:01. > :50:06.strange decision with the schedule, a semifinal at midday and one at

:50:07. > :50:11.five. That had people questioning the schedulers. I am one of those.

:50:12. > :50:16.It should be about the athletes are not necessarily anything else. For

:50:17. > :50:20.the Germans, it was their second game at midday and I think it

:50:21. > :50:25.possibly has knocked it out of them for the matches on Friday. It might

:50:26. > :50:30.be winter here but we had temperatures in the mid-30s this

:50:31. > :50:35.afternoon. More manageable now. Six seconds on the clock before the

:50:36. > :50:41.restart and no score. 0-0. Great Britain still attacking the goal.

:50:42. > :50:45.They do not change ends until half-time. Looking for an escape

:50:46. > :51:03.route down the right-hand flank. Hollie Webb has Ansley to her left

:51:04. > :51:05.but she went back to Kate Richardson-Walsh, who sent it two

:51:06. > :51:09.thirds the length of the picture and it went straight to a New Zealand

:51:10. > :51:18.stick but the damage was rectified. Lilli Owsley, at pace. Sophie Bray

:51:19. > :51:25.did well and got to the circle and then ran out of room. Sophie Bray

:51:26. > :51:31.was phenomenal against Spain and deserve to be voted by the public as

:51:32. > :51:39.GB player of the match. Great pass from Laura Unsworth,

:51:40. > :51:45.fouled Owsley. No red stick to apply the finishing touch. Sophie Bray

:51:46. > :51:51.could not have been too far away from that cross. A fantastic

:51:52. > :51:53.delivery and Owsley did well to roll the defender. Sophie Bray did the

:51:54. > :52:07.right thing, attacking the space. Sam Quek with the free hit. Many of

:52:08. > :52:11.the New Zealand fans are dressed in black stop it must've been a hot day

:52:12. > :52:20.for those out in the midday sun dressed in black.

:52:21. > :52:26.Good skills from Sam Quek who has kept Great Britain in possession.

:52:27. > :52:33.Owsley coming in from the right this time. It is a busy start to the

:52:34. > :52:38.second period from Lilli Owsley. Both teams are doing well, defending

:52:39. > :52:45.the edge of the circle. I think they have both realised corners could be

:52:46. > :52:51.a threat. Charlotte Harrison having the chance to move clear but hounded

:52:52. > :52:58.every step by Sophie Bray. Great interplay between Helen

:52:59. > :53:03.Richardson-Walsh Andy Leigh Owsley. That means Great Britain have a

:53:04. > :53:11.penalty corner. Some of the Black Sticks feel there was a third party

:53:12. > :53:16.on Michelsen before Helen Richardson-Walsh put the ball on

:53:17. > :53:19.Brooke Neal's foot but they have not gone to the referral also a second

:53:20. > :53:20.corner to Great Britain and a fantastic opportunity to register

:53:21. > :53:35.something on the board. The target players this time, Kate

:53:36. > :53:37.Richardson-Walsh, and Giselle Ansley. In fact Kate

:53:38. > :53:43.Richardson-Walsh has stepped away and so Laura Unsworth is loitering

:53:44. > :53:47.will stop let's see what Great Britain can produce.

:53:48. > :54:03.Unsworth! A great effort. The shot at goal was too high. The

:54:04. > :54:10.decision came from Michelle Joubert. Because it was a slap by Laura

:54:11. > :54:15.Unsworth the ball has to go back at board height. It is a tough call to

:54:16. > :54:21.make. From the angle they had, that is what they felt. Good to see Great

:54:22. > :54:25.Britain just accepting the decision. Nothing could have happened, it was

:54:26. > :54:35.not as if they corner had been awarded. Kirsten Pearce in the

:54:36. > :54:44.circle will stop no penalty corner. Can Britain break quickly through

:54:45. > :54:47.Sophie Bray on the right? Can she threaded through? Helen

:54:48. > :54:51.Richardson-Walsh gets a stick on the ball and gets inside the circle.

:54:52. > :55:00.Finally tackled by the New Zealand defence, who took four, five seconds

:55:01. > :55:05.to rob Richardson-Walsh of the ball. It was four, five players as well.

:55:06. > :55:10.That is what Helen Richardson-Walsh brings to the game, it forces teams

:55:11. > :55:12.to double up on her. It means there has to be a British player free

:55:13. > :55:34.somewhere on the pitch. That was watched well by Nicola

:55:35. > :55:52.White, who let it into action to pick that up.

:55:53. > :56:00.Crista Cullen can send it into New Zealand's half, where she finds

:56:01. > :56:01.Nicola White. A promising build-up from Great

:56:02. > :56:27.Britain. Unsworth spotted the space and made

:56:28. > :56:32.a dash, looking for Shona McCallin. Now Great Britain are inside New

:56:33. > :56:39.Zealand's 23. Alex Danson was calling for it in the circle.

:56:40. > :56:47.It would have been a mighty pass from Crista Cullen to find her so

:56:48. > :56:55.probably the right option not to. Taken left-handed out of the air,

:56:56. > :57:02.beautifully done by Crista Cullen. On the deck but no foul. New Zealand

:57:03. > :57:07.rampaging forward. Sam Quek and Alex Danson go back to defend. See how

:57:08. > :57:11.hard New Zealand are working in defence, moment Alex Danson picked

:57:12. > :57:20.up the ball, they are working hard to try to win the ball is high up

:57:21. > :57:25.the pictures they can. -- pitch will stop Owsley claimed she was

:57:26. > :57:34.obstructed and she was. Penalty corner given. Owsley using pace

:57:35. > :57:37.well. An absolute nightmare. I think Keddell blatantly blocks Lilli

:57:38. > :57:46.Owsley, putting the shoulder across the body. Owsley was away. The

:57:47. > :57:50.correct decision. I am asked why it is not a card as well if it is

:57:51. > :57:56.upgraded as a penalty corner but a lot of umpires feel that upgrading

:57:57. > :58:02.it to a penalty corner is enough penalty for the team.

:58:03. > :58:13.Crista Cullen and Nicola White could potentially get involved here.

:58:14. > :58:19.Saved, but pushed home and Alex Danson gets the first goal of the

:58:20. > :58:23.match for Great Britain. So often you see it on penalty

:58:24. > :58:28.corner rebounds, the strikers anticipate the rebound will stop

:58:29. > :58:33.Sally Rutherford did well to make the initial save from Crista Cullen

:58:34. > :58:39.but Alex Danson was quickest to it and flicks the ball over. I think

:58:40. > :58:44.Brooke Neal gets half a touch on it. It is Brooke Neal that puts it into

:58:45. > :58:49.the back of the net but because the touch came off Alex Danson last, she

:58:50. > :58:57.will be credited with the goal. It will be her fourth of the games.

:58:58. > :59:05.Less than nine minutes to half-time. That last, Great Britain, following

:59:06. > :59:10.their long sustained periods of pressure, get the reward. Now they

:59:11. > :59:17.have to be alert because the Black Sticks will be determined to strike

:59:18. > :59:22.back. And to strike back quickly. Maddie Hinch, right foot stuck out.

:59:23. > :59:26.Alex Danson is back to tidy things up, having just got on the

:59:27. > :59:29.scoresheet, she is back defending and sets up the next forward move

:59:30. > :59:44.for Great Britain. Brilliant. New Zealand said that towards the

:59:45. > :59:51.Great Britain circle. Laura Unsworth hat to watch it carefully.

:59:52. > :59:59.This is the opportunity. Sophie Cocks comes through and Flynn takes

:00:00. > :00:03.the ball in the air. Split grip backhand shot because she did not

:00:04. > :00:07.have time to go for the big wind-up and Maddie Hinch makes her first

:00:08. > :00:13.save of the game. New Zealand continue to threaten. Hannah Macleod

:00:14. > :00:24.in the right place at the right time. She can bring it forward for

:00:25. > :00:28.Great Britain. Taking quickly by Michelsen. Harrison on the right now

:00:29. > :00:41.for New Zealand, but they want it taken again. MacLeod watching

:00:42. > :00:52.Mickelson. Wordwrap from Cox. -- April a trap from Cocks. Plenty of

:00:53. > :01:03.Great Britain supporters in the Deodoro Stadium tonight. It's a

:01:04. > :01:08.colourful scene. Attempted aerial ball was slightly scuffed from New

:01:09. > :01:12.Zealand but they still have possession. Bit of a missed attempt

:01:13. > :01:20.from Thompson. This time they've left it for Kayla Whitelock, 250

:01:21. > :01:29.appearances for New Zealand. Michelsen. Unsworth. Quickly away.

:01:30. > :01:39.Feeds that perfectly to Susannah Townsend. Townsend knocks it on.

:01:40. > :01:47.Owsley couldn't quite guided back towards Thomson. Cocks has beaten

:01:48. > :01:54.Unsworth. New Zealand with two Blackshirts in the circle, they

:01:55. > :02:00.needed it delivered quickly. Olivia Merry Mr trap. Sam Quek takes it

:02:01. > :02:14.away from the dangerous Susannah Townsend. Quek. There will naturally

:02:15. > :02:16.be a few missed traps, it's an Olympic Games semifinal, though

:02:17. > :02:26.these teams have been there before in London, there is still so much at

:02:27. > :02:34.stake. A good period of pressure from New Zealand. Unsworth gets her

:02:35. > :02:43.stick in the way. Stacey Michelsen eventually runs out of her. The New

:02:44. > :02:52.Zealand coach talking on the walkie-talkies. Lots of noise in the

:02:53. > :03:01.stadium tonight. Under five minutes left in the first half, New Zealand

:03:02. > :03:15.0- one Great Britain. Whitelock. Good work from Sophie Cocks.

:03:16. > :03:21.Brought the Black Sticks back because the infringement took place

:03:22. > :03:40.outside the 23. Left foot clearance this time from Maddie Hinch.

:03:41. > :03:46.Michelsen send it back to Kayla Whitelock. New Zealand switched

:03:47. > :03:50.sides, now they are coming down the central channel, bouncing towards

:03:51. > :03:58.the edge of the circle, picked up by Olivia Merry. New Zealand working

:03:59. > :04:01.their way through. Unsworth is there, sensed that border the

:04:02. > :04:10.halfway line. A few more seconds tick away until the half-time

:04:11. > :04:14.hooter. New Zealand with plenty more opportunities to get inside the

:04:15. > :04:21.Great Britain circle. It cleared by Kate Richardson-Walsh. Here they

:04:22. > :04:27.come again. Townsend, a little push in the back of the New Zealand

:04:28. > :04:33.attack. No call from the umpire. Now Lily Owsley missed the next touch.

:04:34. > :04:36.Michelsen takes it quickly, she's lively, left-hand skill from

:04:37. > :04:43.Michelsen looking to go through the legs of Richardson-Walsh. Black

:04:44. > :04:46.Sticks are going to get back into this, Stacey Michelsen will have a

:04:47. > :04:50.fairly big role to play, she starts the game at right defender but don't

:04:51. > :04:54.be surprised to see her wander around all over the pitch.

:04:55. > :04:58.Dangerous, Great Britain getting their feet out of the way. But now

:04:59. > :05:07.the penalty corner is conceded. Georgie Twigg got foot on ball. Had

:05:08. > :05:12.her dancing feet on trying to avoid the ball hitting her foot, fair play

:05:13. > :05:19.to Sophie Cocks that she remained calm and rolled the ball onto the

:05:20. > :05:23.right foot. Second corner to New Zealand. Anita McLaren on the pitch,

:05:24. > :05:28.she didn't take the first opportunity, it was Liz Thompson

:05:29. > :05:34.dragging to the art to deflection. We'll keep an eye on Anita McLaren,

:05:35. > :05:42.the number 32. Liz Thompson, 16, also potentially might get involved

:05:43. > :05:51.in this. Penalty corner, New Zealand's second of the first half.

:05:52. > :05:57.Good effort, but wide. I'm going to be harsh but it's criminal not a the

:05:58. > :06:01.shot on target, she's whipped that, picked the ball up and used her body

:06:02. > :06:08.weight to whip the ball around, to go to Maddie Hinch's stick side.

:06:09. > :06:09.There was a player there, had it been Hinch, possibly would have been

:06:10. > :06:24.taken by the post player. Two minutes left in the half. It's

:06:25. > :06:28.been a tense ten minutes for Great Britain, they've been defending

:06:29. > :06:31.constantly. Now, can they finished the first half on a positive note?

:06:32. > :06:40.They are in New Zealand territory now. Danson flicks it forward. It's

:06:41. > :06:51.held up. Not taken from the right place again. : Cullen all the way

:06:52. > :06:52.back to Kate Richardson-Walsh and Hollie Webb down the central channel

:06:53. > :07:24.to Laura Unsworth. Aerial ball. Susannah Townsend in

:07:25. > :07:33.the circle. She shoots, it's blocked. Great ball by Crista Cullen

:07:34. > :07:37.to aerial the ball to the other side for Susannah Townsend, great first

:07:38. > :07:45.touch, put it into the circle. Has a shot at goal blocked by the New

:07:46. > :07:53.Zealand defender. How eager will New Zealand be to launch one more attack

:07:54. > :08:03.with 30 seconds left on the clock? Down the left side.

:08:04. > :08:15.Great Britain's ball. They are in no hurry to restart here. Crista Cullen

:08:16. > :08:20.with ten seconds remaining in the half, send this deep into New

:08:21. > :08:26.Zealand territory. This will take us to the half-time hooter. Really good

:08:27. > :08:34.first half. Great Britain are leading New Zealand 1-0. STUDIO: In

:08:35. > :08:38.the first period New Zealand had some great chances but the goal has

:08:39. > :08:42.gone to Great Britain. Alex Danson taking advantage.

:08:43. > :08:47.The attack have an advantage because they are stepping in towards the

:08:48. > :08:54.goalkeeper. First flick, Crista Cullen, as sharp as it could have

:08:55. > :08:58.been. Danson on hand, getting in the thick of things, touching over the

:08:59. > :09:03.goalkeeper. Got a defensive touch, but not enough to prevent it going

:09:04. > :09:06.in. GB deserving of the lead? No, only because they've played with

:09:07. > :09:10.good intensity and possession but every time New Zealand get it at

:09:11. > :09:15.this moment, they look so dangerous coming forward. Several

:09:16. > :09:19.opportunities. If Great Britain continue to give up that much

:09:20. > :09:23.possession, New Zealand will get something out of this. He'll

:09:24. > :09:27.probably have a completely front opinion. I've been wrong on my

:09:28. > :09:32.predictions. You'll be happy with the ball carrying and possession,

:09:33. > :09:35.technical skills, it's just the turnover, it appears to mean New

:09:36. > :09:39.Zealand can get five, ten, 15 yards of good position high up the pitch,

:09:40. > :09:42.putting Great Britain under too much deep pressure. As things stand,

:09:43. > :09:44.Great Britain leading 1-0, 30 minutes away from a first Olympic

:09:45. > :09:53.final. I know, but Simon is right, it's

:09:54. > :09:57.going to be a very tense third and fourth quarter, New Zealand look so

:09:58. > :10:00.good, 1-0 is a narrow lead. Before the third quarter starts we have

:10:01. > :10:05.time to catch up on boxing, the gold medal fight in the welterweight

:10:06. > :10:15.category. Uzbekistan have already won boxing gold at these games.

:10:16. > :10:26.Ronald McIntosh with better pronunciations and the final round.

:10:27. > :10:35.Into the third and final round of the men's 69 kilogram gold-medal

:10:36. > :10:44.bout. The man in red after his man with his hands by his side, saying,

:10:45. > :10:47.come on, fight me. He is Shakhram Giyasov, frustrated because he

:10:48. > :10:50.cannot get the man in blue to stand still. When he holed his feet for a

:10:51. > :10:55.fraction of a second, he's invariably poking out a straight

:10:56. > :11:00.shot. A port left court Shakhram Giyasov a few moments ago. Is

:11:01. > :11:04.frustrated, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. This is why

:11:05. > :11:09.he's one of the best boxers in the world, this in blue. He is

:11:10. > :11:16.frustrating his opponent. His standing and trading now, this

:11:17. > :11:20.should suit Giyasov. He is being made to miss. The head unable to be

:11:21. > :11:24.targeted effectively by Giyasov, putting an awful lot into his

:11:25. > :11:29.punches. In the meantime, look at that again, being made to miss.

:11:30. > :11:34.Yeleussinov countering, we'd seen him do this on occasion before,

:11:35. > :11:38.standard box the other man's fight, he did in the semifinal, we've seen

:11:39. > :11:41.it in World Series boxing, he's doing it again. Letting Giyasov know

:11:42. > :11:50.he is the governor in every facet of the game. He may have done this in

:11:51. > :11:56.defiance, Yeleussinov, if you want it that way, let's go. He's boxing

:11:57. > :12:01.better than his opponent at his opponent's style of boxing.

:12:02. > :12:05.Yeleussinov demonstrating he can box on the outside, now standing toe to

:12:06. > :12:13.toe. It should suit the man in red, can he land the big shot? The

:12:14. > :12:16.mouthpiece has been dislodged. The mouthpiece of Giyasov. Just beyond

:12:17. > :12:22.the midpoint of the third and final round. The Karezak fans almost

:12:23. > :12:27.counting down the clock. Because Yeleussinov is getting closer to

:12:28. > :12:36.joining the ranks of the all-time greats. -- the fans from Kazakhstan.

:12:37. > :12:40.They have dominated the division, haven't they, the last three

:12:41. > :12:44.Olympics? Now it looks like a mess Giyasov can find the knockout shot,

:12:45. > :12:48.they are going to get it again, lovely head movement. We've seen it

:12:49. > :12:51.from a couple of the Kazakhstan boxers, especially when they have

:12:52. > :12:57.been on the ropes, they've been taught defensive work, which is

:12:58. > :12:58.great to see. Boxing superbly now, standing and trading. A good

:12:59. > :13:15.performance from the context -- from the Kazakhstan fighter. He's

:13:16. > :13:19.making the man miss. Principally getting the better of the exchange.

:13:20. > :13:23.Giyasov desperately working away, trying to find the finishing shot.

:13:24. > :13:27.There is a right hand, then another left, that causes Yeleussinov to

:13:28. > :13:32.become disorganised. When you adopt the laid-back as he does, sometimes

:13:33. > :13:38.when a shot lands, it can be accentuated look more effective than

:13:39. > :13:41.it is. Furious exchange in the closing seconds, but there can be

:13:42. > :13:45.little doubt that Kazakhstan will extend their fantastic record in the

:13:46. > :13:48.welterweight division in the Olympic boxing ring. By making it four wins

:13:49. > :13:59.in a row. Tremendous performance from

:14:00. > :14:00.Yeleussinov because right at the end he had to take a couple of big

:14:01. > :14:17.rounds. ANNOUNCER: ladies and gentlemen, the

:14:18. > :14:26.winner by unanimous decision... In the blue corner, representing

:14:27. > :14:31.Kazakhstan, Yeleussinov! Yeleussinov is absolutely ecstatic. At being

:14:32. > :14:38.announced as the welterweight Olympic champion. Here in Riocentro

:14:39. > :14:44.Pavilion six, terrific display. His fans are jubilant. And he is

:14:45. > :14:48.absolutely overcome with emotion. A warm embrace of congratulations from

:14:49. > :14:51.his coaching staff. They provided the tactics and he carried them out

:14:52. > :14:59.in the boxing ring, and Kazakhstan join Cuba at the International

:15:00. > :15:05.Olympic Committee to make it four wins in a row. The win gives

:15:06. > :15:07.Kazakhstan their third gold medal of the games, the others in

:15:08. > :15:11.weightlifting and swimming. They draw level with Brazil on three gold

:15:12. > :15:19.medals. Speaking of the host nation they feature in today's headlines.

:15:20. > :15:26.Brazil have reached the men's football gold medal match and will

:15:27. > :15:34.play in the final on Saturday evening. Neymar scored twice as the

:15:35. > :15:42.hosts beat Honduras 6-0. The other semifinal is on BBC Four. Currently

:15:43. > :15:46.Germany 1-0 Nigeria. In athletics, not without its stumbles but Mo

:15:47. > :15:52.Farah gets through to the final of the 5000 metres, also on Saturday

:15:53. > :15:58.night, in his quest to his fourth Olympic gold medal.

:15:59. > :16:03.The women's golf tournament got under way and Britain's Charley Hull

:16:04. > :16:08.finished on a three under par 68 and my three shots off the lead.

:16:09. > :16:16.Catriona Matthew, her team-mate, had a level par round.

:16:17. > :16:20.We had been hoping to celebrate Team GB's 20th gold medal, but calm

:16:21. > :16:25.conditions in the sailing mean that Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark have

:16:26. > :16:34.to wait another day to seal the Olympic title in women's 470 class.

:16:35. > :16:38.British diver Tonia Couch has reached tomorrow's semifinals of the

:16:39. > :16:41.10m platform. Team-mate Sarah Barrow did not make it through the

:16:42. > :16:47.preliminary stages. The best news of all is the diving

:16:48. > :16:53.pool is blue again! This is the timetable for the rest

:16:54. > :16:57.of the night. We will be back for the third and fourth quarters of the

:16:58. > :17:05.hockey match between New Zealand and Great Britain. The men's semifinals,

:17:06. > :17:10.the dream team, in basketball, United States taking on Argentina

:17:11. > :17:15.for the right to play Spain in the semifinals. Usain Bolt is back on

:17:16. > :17:22.track at 2am in the semifinals of the 200 metres. Dina Asher-Smith

:17:23. > :17:28.squeaks in for Great Britain but she is there. I am hearing there is a

:17:29. > :17:41.late goal in the Germany and Nigeria men's semifinal in football. Germany

:17:42. > :17:48.on the break. Neil Peterson just got on the end of the cross to score.

:17:49. > :17:53.2-0 with barely any time left at all and it looks like Germany are going

:17:54. > :17:58.into the gold medal match. Can Great Britain make it into their gold

:17:59. > :18:02.medal match in the hockey? They need 1-0 against New Zealand.

:18:03. > :18:12.Here is Max Chilton. I'll come back, everybody. It is tense. You can feel

:18:13. > :18:18.the tension in the air. 30 minutes of hockey remain, two periods of 15

:18:19. > :18:26.minutes. Great Britain now attacking the goal to the right, against the

:18:27. > :18:32.Black Sticks, who trailed 1-0. A gold medal match against the

:18:33. > :18:37.Netherlands is the reward for the winners of this. If it is level at

:18:38. > :18:44.the end of an hour, we will go to a penalty shoot out. New Zealand first

:18:45. > :18:52.to attack in the second half. Kate Richardson-Walsh gets the job done

:18:53. > :18:56.for Great Britain. Beaten by the New Zealander for

:18:57. > :19:01.speed. New Zealand get a penalty corner within a minute of the

:19:02. > :19:07.restart. Kate Richardson-Walsh was left on

:19:08. > :19:11.her own. Olivia Merry did well. It hits the shin pad of Hollie Webb.

:19:12. > :19:19.The foot inside the circle. Correct decision by the umpire. She got

:19:20. > :19:24.herself into the correct position for an umpire. For GB, they left

:19:25. > :19:28.their heads in the changing room and if the Kiwis equalise, it could be

:19:29. > :19:32.game on. They got a wake-up call because New

:19:33. > :19:37.Zealand are poised at the set piece, the penalty corner. Anita MacLaren,

:19:38. > :19:51.the number 32, is the one to watch. That went up into the face mask of

:19:52. > :19:59.Kate Richardson-Walsh. There is another penalty corner coming.

:20:00. > :20:04.Fantastic defending initially. Whitelock slapping the ball, looking

:20:05. > :20:08.for a deflection and Kate Richardson-Walsh did well to stand

:20:09. > :20:13.her ground and get her stick on the ball. We know the stories of London.

:20:14. > :20:18.Once again she is brave. Comes up off her stick and hits her on the

:20:19. > :20:24.side of the head. As unfortunate corner given away, but the correct

:20:25. > :20:29.decision. Two in a row for New Zealand as Great Britain are padded

:20:30. > :20:36.up and get their face masks on ready to defend this. Fourth penalty

:20:37. > :20:42.corner opportunity of the match for the Black Sticks. Kayla Whitelock,

:20:43. > :20:47.good defending again, Crista Cullen so quickly off the goal-line to run

:20:48. > :20:54.down the set piece and get her body in the way. Again, New Zealand

:20:55. > :20:58.looking for options and Kayla Whitelock's slap at goal. Crista

:20:59. > :21:07.Cullen is more than willing to take a ball on the body for her team.

:21:08. > :21:11.From a British perspective, great to see New Zealand looking for options

:21:12. > :21:12.and Anita McLaren not getting the options she is used to having,

:21:13. > :21:27.perhaps. It will be taken again. The umpire

:21:28. > :21:33.once it reset. The umpire reinforcing her decision.

:21:34. > :21:43.Townsend went back as far as Hollie Webb. At for Nicola White to restart

:21:44. > :21:53.on Great Britain's left. Nicola White could not quite get

:21:54. > :22:00.control the second time. Danny Kerry, his eyes glued to the contest

:22:01. > :22:05.unfolding beneath him. He takes his seat in the stands. He does not like

:22:06. > :22:11.to be on the bench. You get a better view up there of the game. He is in

:22:12. > :22:17.radio contact all the time with Craig Keegan on the bench.

:22:18. > :22:30.Alex Danson getting a telling off, we can hear in our headphones, from

:22:31. > :22:38.the umpire at the other end of the field. I think she was passing a

:22:39. > :22:40.message on. Can you please tell the number 20 not to play the ball after

:22:41. > :22:59.the whistle. Helen Richardson-Walsh got the last

:23:00. > :23:04.British touch before New Zealand broke away. They are met by Laura

:23:05. > :23:13.Unsworth, the diminutive Laura Unsworth. Always hard to get around.

:23:14. > :23:18.Anita McLaren is involved. New Zealand trying to press forward,

:23:19. > :23:24.trying to construct something from the back.

:23:25. > :23:33.A good burst forward from Sophie Cocks. Great Britain have done a

:23:34. > :23:42.good job on Anita McLaren at the moment. In both the men's and

:23:43. > :23:47.ladies' squad she is fifth or sixth on the 100 metre sprint time,

:23:48. > :23:51.absolutely rapid. They have done a good job of stopping the ball

:23:52. > :23:57.getting to her and she could become more frustrated as the game goes on.

:23:58. > :24:02.The Black Sticks forced into their own half. Clever play by Kayla

:24:03. > :24:11.Whitelock, who got around Alex Danson.

:24:12. > :24:19.Keddell colliding with Kate Richardson Walsh, I think. Crista

:24:20. > :24:27.Cullen. The physios are being summoned to take a look at Crista

:24:28. > :24:33.Cullen. A nasty collision. Both the physio and Doctor are on with Crista

:24:34. > :24:38.Cullen. An unfortunate injury that Rose Cadell, in full flow, Crista

:24:39. > :24:42.Cullen as low as she can, left hand on the floor, probably taken a need

:24:43. > :24:48.or something to the head. There might be a lung injury. You can see

:24:49. > :24:59.the umpire asking for the bucket on the field so it can be mocked and

:25:00. > :25:01.wiped. -- mopped. One of the tournament judges has come on at the

:25:02. > :25:13.moment. In around five minutes, this match,

:25:14. > :25:18.coverage will switch to BBC Two. You need to be ready with the remote to

:25:19. > :25:20.carry on watching Great Britain's quest to reach the gold medal match

:25:21. > :25:31.at the Olympic hockey tournament. Taking another look at the condition

:25:32. > :25:36.between Crista Cullen and Rose Cadell. Crista Cullen has ice on her

:25:37. > :25:44.head and I think is bleeding. Heading off to be stitched up. The

:25:45. > :25:53.doctor has already stitched up Martin. Quick stitches required for

:25:54. > :26:02.Cullen. The blood team are on to deal with what has been left behind

:26:03. > :26:07.following that nasty prang. It has all gone very quiet. Ten and three

:26:08. > :26:13.quarters minutes left in the third period. The match is for a place in

:26:14. > :26:15.the Olympic final. Coverage will continue in a few minutes on BBC

:26:16. > :26:30.Two. The judges are still holding the

:26:31. > :26:34.restart. One or two spots are still around

:26:35. > :26:41.and water is being applied to the surface. The pitches designed to

:26:42. > :26:54.reflect the Brazilian flag. Still not quite happy with the final

:26:55. > :26:58.clean-up. Cullen will be back before they have finished cleaning up.

:26:59. > :27:25.OK, the restart is now. A bit of space for Shona McCallin to

:27:26. > :27:28.setup Richardson-Walsh. Looking for Sophie Bray.

:27:29. > :28:02.They will build again from the back. Sam Quek has hardly put a foot

:28:03. > :28:06.wrong. There is no reason for Great Britain to do anything bad in a

:28:07. > :28:09.simple game. There is no need to force passes, it is the case of

:28:10. > :28:14.winning the ball and giving it to the player high up the field. That

:28:15. > :28:19.is why they do their conditioning and running work, for moments like

:28:20. > :28:23.this. That was a brilliant pass following an excellent tackle by

:28:24. > :28:26.Georgie Twigg, whose hockey has improved dramatically as the

:28:27. > :28:47.tournament has gone on and her confidence levels have grown.

:28:48. > :28:57.New Zealand restarting from just outside their circle.

:28:58. > :29:02.It was a good tackle from Townsend, who took it up towards the New

:29:03. > :29:04.Zealand Circle, looking for the backhand cross and she just ran out

:29:05. > :29:11.of turf. We are continuing our coverage of

:29:12. > :29:19.the Olympics on BBC Two.
