:00:09. > :00:15.Welcome to viewers on BBC One. We are back here lies at the Olympics

:00:16. > :00:19.in Rio with Great Britain in semifinal hockey action against New

:00:20. > :00:23.Zealand. Britain leading 3-0 for the right to play in the gold-medal

:00:24. > :00:30.match for the very first time. We will leave you on BBC Two the hockey

:00:31. > :00:39.is now on BBC One so switchover and and join us there. We go back to

:00:40. > :00:44.mirror -- we go back to Matt Chilton.

:00:45. > :00:47.Less than four minutes left in this contest. The intensity has been

:00:48. > :00:50.immense from the British side tonight. Everything has gone

:00:51. > :00:56.according to plan and stuck to their game plan which was decided by Danny

:00:57. > :01:03.Kerry at the start and reinforced during the various breaks. You

:01:04. > :01:08.really have to give credit to Danny Kerry and the coaching staff and the

:01:09. > :01:11.conditioning coach. These players put their whole Olympic dream in

:01:12. > :01:16.their hands and it is about peaking at the right time and credit where

:01:17. > :01:19.credit is due -- deal, technically Danny Kerry and his team have been

:01:20. > :01:22.spot-on and physically they are in the best shape of their lives. It is

:01:23. > :01:27.behind, think how many injuries Great Britain have suffered tonight.

:01:28. > :01:33.It emphasises how much they put their bodies on the line throughout

:01:34. > :01:38.the 57 minutes of this match so far. Three minutes left on the clock.

:01:39. > :01:41.Sophie Bray puts pressure on the New Zealand defence once more. At the

:01:42. > :01:47.moment it looks as though New Zealand will take on Germany for the

:01:48. > :01:53.bronze medal match. Great Britain will face the Dutch in the battle of

:01:54. > :01:58.gold. There is still some hockey to be played. Quick fires it downfield.

:01:59. > :02:05.A few more seconds last. It was the right tactic. Now Great Britain are

:02:06. > :02:10.just setting up the hard-core press. The forwards are standing and moving

:02:11. > :02:14.around on the halfway land -- line. I can fear being that the rest of

:02:15. > :02:17.the game. Every time Britain when the ball they will play for

:02:18. > :02:24.territory. Three goals in two minutes is a big ask for New

:02:25. > :02:32.Zealand. Whitelock inside the British circle. They turn and it is

:02:33. > :02:44.hooved away by Maddy Hinch. Hollie Webb is able to pick it up. Great

:02:45. > :02:49.Britain 's free hit. Hockey is coming home. That is the song being

:02:50. > :03:03.sung by the British supporters here tonight.

:03:04. > :03:08.It has just been an outstanding performance by the team throughout

:03:09. > :03:11.the tournament here. They are the only team throughout this

:03:12. > :03:15.competition who will probably be seven from seven. The dream is to be

:03:16. > :03:18.eight from eight by the end of it and the way they are playing at the

:03:19. > :03:22.moment, it will be a fascinating final against the Dutch. Townsend

:03:23. > :03:29.was brought down, crashing heavily to the artificial turf. We are

:03:30. > :03:35.inside the final 60 seconds of the Olympic semifinal. Sam Quek sends it

:03:36. > :03:52.long. And now the British fans are in

:03:53. > :03:57.jubilant voice as they watch the clock, celebrations going on on the

:03:58. > :04:01.bench as well with the Union Jack being waived all around the stadium.

:04:02. > :04:05.There is no way back to New Zealand is now. It is a half-hearted finish

:04:06. > :04:13.from the Black sticks. They have seen the scoreboard. New Zealand

:04:14. > :04:19.zero, Great Britain three. The last ten seconds of this match and Great

:04:20. > :04:26.Britain are guaranteed at least the silver medal. We hope the gold. They

:04:27. > :04:32.will do battle with the Dutch on Friday. There is the final hooter!

:04:33. > :04:37.Great Britain are in the Olympic final. A fantastic performance, what

:04:38. > :04:42.a tournament they have had a! Yet to lose a match, and they have won the

:04:43. > :04:47.most important one so far comfortably. Three goals to zero

:04:48. > :04:51.over New Zealand. Alex Danson got things going in the first half and

:04:52. > :04:55.then there were penalty straight from Helen Richardson-Walsh and then

:04:56. > :05:06.Danson stood up, stepped forward to take her second, again from the

:05:07. > :05:11.penalty spot. Absolutely incredible. I am so pleased and proud for every

:05:12. > :05:13.single player that is out there. It is an unbelievable performance and

:05:14. > :05:20.the first time the women's hockey team have been in an Olympic final

:05:21. > :05:24.four Great Britain, it has got me. Mel Clewlow has a lump in her throat

:05:25. > :05:33.and the final score here is 3-0 to Great Britain. Job done. RISHI: to

:05:34. > :05:37.be fair you can understand the lump in Mel Clewlow 's throat. It has

:05:38. > :05:41.been a wonderful journey so far with the first final in the Olympics ever

:05:42. > :05:46.for the Great Britain women and they have been magnificent. There are

:05:47. > :05:50.times when words can't describe the emotion that is attached about

:05:51. > :05:54.results. They have been magnificent. At times it wasn't pretty, at times

:05:55. > :05:57.New Zealand were dominant and aggressive and assertive but Great

:05:58. > :06:01.Britain Rodin made it look easy at times indeed defence. They

:06:02. > :06:05.counter-attacked with real authority and it was just momentous. It is

:06:06. > :06:09.momentous and monumental and majestic. They have a final to look

:06:10. > :06:12.forward against the Netherlands on Friday and we will talk about that

:06:13. > :06:16.in a moment but first we will reflect on the journey these women

:06:17. > :06:20.have been through since London. They worked so hard in this four year

:06:21. > :06:24.cycle and lifted their game. They have lifted their spirits. The focus

:06:25. > :06:27.and the intensity and all of the things their sports psychologists

:06:28. > :06:33.talk about and their coaches talk about, these girls have delivered.

:06:34. > :06:37.They have developed. Mel talked about in commentary, this is about

:06:38. > :06:40.31 person group and they developed a gold-medal mentality and every

:06:41. > :06:44.single thing they do at every moment and every breath they take is about

:06:45. > :06:48.delivering in the next game, not that game, that is a step on the

:06:49. > :06:51.pathway, they want nothing other than to stand on the rostrum

:06:52. > :06:55.Drummond take-home gold and it has been incredible to watch. Simon, you

:06:56. > :07:02.live and breathe hockey, this has been your life. People back home and

:07:03. > :07:04.follow the sport, what does this success success tonight and the

:07:05. > :07:08.guarantee of a silver medal for the Great Britain women mean? It changes

:07:09. > :07:11.the face of hockey, genuinely, you can always say the right things and

:07:12. > :07:16.talk about where you want to be and talk about the aspiration, but these

:07:17. > :07:19.girls have delivered. They have taken these words and put them into

:07:20. > :07:23.action and they got the bronze medal in London and they have had some

:07:24. > :07:26.fantastic results they are European champions, but to come on an Olympic

:07:27. > :07:29.stage and turn it on the way they have, with the injuries to Georgie

:07:30. > :07:33.Twigg and Crista Cullen both going down with head injuries and coming

:07:34. > :07:36.back onto the pitch, the strength and resilience and the athleticism

:07:37. > :07:40.and the majority that has come through this squad led by Danny

:07:41. > :07:44.Kerry, has been exceptional, remarkable, call it what you like,

:07:45. > :07:48.but it has been a delight to watch and I'm so proud of them. I had the

:07:49. > :07:51.privilege of watching the girls training and I've seen that here a

:07:52. > :07:54.lot and I have noticed how close-knit they are. People talk

:07:55. > :07:58.about Kate Richardson-Walsh being a brilliant leader but loads of the

:07:59. > :08:00.women stand the pitch and they step up to the mark and they help her and

:08:01. > :08:03.they are so tight as a group. up to the mark and they help her and

:08:04. > :08:07.they are so tight as a group. You could put any one of those players

:08:08. > :08:12.into a leadership role in a team or business, whatever needs to be, they

:08:13. > :08:20.would all step up in the Amby captains. I will bring Mal into it

:08:21. > :08:25.as well. I have lost it! I understand. We were talking to Simon

:08:26. > :08:29.and there was just one win in the tournament at Sydney and in Athens

:08:30. > :08:33.we didn't even get there but it has been built and built and built and

:08:34. > :08:37.it is all coming to tuition now. It is phenomenal. The players deserve a

:08:38. > :08:42.lot of credit but Danny Kerry and his coaching team have got it spot

:08:43. > :08:45.on tactically, they really have. The conditioning coach has got them in

:08:46. > :08:49.the physical condition of the life and for a group of players to put

:08:50. > :08:53.their trust in that group of people as well, it is just an awesome,

:08:54. > :08:58.awesome moment for British hockey. Before you came down with a say how

:08:59. > :09:01.tight the group is. They are in the huddle now and what are they

:09:02. > :09:05.feeling? Can you describe it? A lot of players will really be numb. You

:09:06. > :09:08.saw the celebrations at the end which didn't last long but I have

:09:09. > :09:16.never seen this group is focused as they are now. We will listen in.

:09:17. > :09:23.I think they are just saying one more. One more time. When Sam got

:09:24. > :09:26.her reward for 50 caps the other night she said two more. The

:09:27. > :09:29.countdown has been going since they arrived here. They were brilliant in

:09:30. > :09:33.the pool games but they had to lifted. They were brilliant against

:09:34. > :09:37.Spain but it has been an even bigger challenge. You talk about how quick

:09:38. > :09:40.the Black Caps were, by the end of it they were knackered. What is

:09:41. > :09:44.remarkable is the different ways Great Britain can play, they play

:09:45. > :09:48.aggressively with control and precision. Danny Kerry has the

:09:49. > :09:59.tactics spot on but his players have delivered

:10:00. > :10:03.those messages are at the come out here and take it to the absolute

:10:04. > :10:06.umpteenth level, technically and tactically to get to a medal game.

:10:07. > :10:09.We will look through the goals one more time. Alex Danson settle the

:10:10. > :10:12.nerves because it was tense. New Zealand had a couple of great

:10:13. > :10:15.chances but Alex scored. It is the striker 's instinct to be there.

:10:16. > :10:18.Neal nearly cleared it up the line and sometimes when those things go

:10:19. > :10:23.your way you know you are in with a chance and it was a great start that

:10:24. > :10:26.calm the nerves for a lot of people. After that New Zealand started

:10:27. > :10:29.putting the pressure on an Great Britain soaked it up and eventually

:10:30. > :10:34.Helen Richardson-Walsh helped us out with the second goal and the penalty

:10:35. > :10:36.strike. If you have got players who attack aggressively and pick the

:10:37. > :10:40.ball up and believe in their speed and their skills and you drive that

:10:41. > :10:43.hard into the circle, you will get an outcome and Helen did, it was a

:10:44. > :10:46.great bit of close control with acceleration and a change of pace

:10:47. > :10:52.that drew the horrendous foul and the first penalty stroke to take

:10:53. > :10:57.Great Britain 2-0 up. She went down and have little injury and she went

:10:58. > :11:08.off but the girls are just coming through. Kate. I will just let you

:11:09. > :11:13.enjoy this moment because you deserve it as well. Fantastic, Kate.

:11:14. > :11:17.I think the first thing is, just what are you thinking and feeling

:11:18. > :11:22.right now? I am exhausted, to be honest but I am really proud, really

:11:23. > :11:26.proud of the girls. We have done every single game this tournament

:11:27. > :11:29.and done the task and done our job I got the result we deserve and it

:11:30. > :11:34.happened again today. I thought we were so resilient and we had to ride

:11:35. > :11:38.out some serious balls from New Zealand, they are a fantastic side

:11:39. > :11:41.and we had to defend like our lives depended on it. It was a little

:11:42. > :11:44.snapshot of your whole career, riding out the storms. I was talking

:11:45. > :11:52.to men about the times when you didn't even qualify for Athens and

:11:53. > :11:55.Sydney was very good but then you guys put a plan into place and it

:11:56. > :11:57.has been a magnificent build-up. This is the result of the

:11:58. > :12:00.centralised programmer started in 2009 and the squad that got the

:12:01. > :12:03.bronze medal in London, this is off the back of that and those girls

:12:04. > :12:08.really have a part to play in this and I am proud of all of the players

:12:09. > :12:12.really. Danny. Don't just drift around here and bring your big smile

:12:13. > :12:19.onto the screen, come on. How good does it feel? What can I say? Seven

:12:20. > :12:23.out of seven is not too shabby. I think the girls were absolutely

:12:24. > :12:27.superb now. They tactically executed it spot on, absolutely spot-on under

:12:28. > :12:31.pressure and they kept delivering. I am very, very proud of the man very

:12:32. > :12:37.proud of this 1am proud of Helen taking that stroke. Just proud. We

:12:38. > :12:40.have spoken about the fact that you might be the captain, Kate, and

:12:41. > :12:44.you've spoken about yourself, there are leaders everywhere you look out

:12:45. > :12:47.there. Absolutely. What you saw today was the ultimate squad

:12:48. > :12:51.performance. People putting their bodies on the line and thinking very

:12:52. > :12:55.clearly under pressure and doing the right thing at the right moment.

:12:56. > :12:59.Everybody, two women stood up -- everybody to a woman stood up and

:13:00. > :13:10.did their job today. What happens between now and the final? We will

:13:11. > :13:12.public and media interest but we have to ensure that doesn't

:13:13. > :13:15.interfere with our recovery but we will do our usual processes as we

:13:16. > :13:19.have done all through the tournament which is dull but it works. We will

:13:20. > :13:22.get into trouble for keeping you too long but hopefully we will keep you

:13:23. > :13:23.even longer on Friday. Good luck and thank you for coming over. Thank you

:13:24. > :13:32.for your support! Helen is here to talk about the

:13:33. > :13:40.third goal, but before we talk about that, Mel said the first goal calmed

:13:41. > :13:45.nerves down, you might have been 1-0 up but it was a lot of pressure. We

:13:46. > :13:49.didn't feel nervous on the pitch, they kept getting chances but never

:13:50. > :13:54.scoring, and that helped build our confidence, you kind of think, this

:13:55. > :13:57.is going to be our night. Fortunately we were able to put the

:13:58. > :14:04.stroke away this time. And you limped away, are you OK? My

:14:05. > :14:09.hamstring is a little soar, hopefully it will be OK in a couple

:14:10. > :14:13.of days. Mel has been in tears since halfway through the match, so we

:14:14. > :14:19.will let you go! Best of luck on Friday, history made here. Great

:14:20. > :14:22.Britain through, the third goal in the end was courtesy of Alex Danson,

:14:23. > :14:27.and she is here! Can you talk us through the third goal? We're just

:14:28. > :14:34.seeing it, talk us through what happened. I can't remember. It was a

:14:35. > :14:40.fantastic piece of play by Lily down the side. I think she won the

:14:41. > :14:45.stroke, and it was a case of just trying to do my job, keep cool, so

:14:46. > :14:49.when it did go in, I was delighted. You are one of the senior players,

:14:50. > :14:55.you have been through so much, it has been such an up-and-down journey

:14:56. > :15:00.for so long, but it is firmly on the up. The one thing we have always had

:15:01. > :15:05.his belief. We believe we have to come out here and deliver on the

:15:06. > :15:09.tactics, one game at a time, one more to play. I spoke to Simon a few

:15:10. > :15:12.minutes ago talking about the significance of this win for the

:15:13. > :15:18.sport, for what you girls have done, what the women have done for the

:15:19. > :15:21.sporting Great Britain. I hope whatever body sees is the tightest

:15:22. > :15:26.group of women there could possibly be out there, we are such a team,

:15:27. > :15:31.and that is every athlete who has ever played the Great Britain, all

:15:32. > :15:35.the athletes believed in this, we work hard, the spirit, the players,

:15:36. > :15:40.the team, that is what has got us to this final. We wish you the very

:15:41. > :15:49.best of luck, thank you and good luck on Friday! Mail is still

:15:50. > :15:52.hugging and loving... Last word? Absolutely unbelievable, and I

:15:53. > :15:56.genuinely think they can beat the Dutch. I think they are still in the

:15:57. > :16:02.minds of the Dutch, it is all to play for. Thank you both very much.

:16:03. > :16:06.We will reconvene here on Friday, the Netherlands against Great

:16:07. > :16:11.Britain in the final, and we will hopefully celebrate

:16:12. > :16:18.CLARE BALDING: And that will be live, thanks to the whole team at

:16:19. > :16:21.the Diadora. They are not getting carried away with the emotion of it

:16:22. > :16:25.all. It will be Kate Richardson-Walsh's last game in

:16:26. > :16:30.charge as captain, and it will be a gold medal match, the first time

:16:31. > :16:33.ever for Britain's women. They are remaining calm, but the rest of us

:16:34. > :16:39.might not be, it is tremendously exciting! I am going to head off now

:16:40. > :16:42.and leave you in the hands of the lovely Jason Mohammed who has a

:16:43. > :17:38.line-up of sport for you tonight. A big thank you to Clare Balding and

:17:39. > :17:43.the team. Well done, Great Britain's women's hockey team, they are on

:17:44. > :17:47.fire. We are living up to the ideals of the Olympic movement, we're going

:19:29. > :19:35.here at Rio 2016 for you. The USA yet to find their top form. They are

:19:36. > :19:40.so used to thrashing opponents, they have won by a margin of ten, three

:19:41. > :19:44.and three points, and they are taking on Argentina in the

:19:45. > :19:48.quarterfinals soon. They have won three of their five group matches,

:21:14. > :21:15.very much all about the basketball for us, and to get you in the mood,

:21:16. > :22:26.here is a little slam dunk montage. Trust me, this is going to be epic.

:22:27. > :22:32.Argentina are leading the United States, and some newspapers are

:22:33. > :22:37.worried about the United States not landing the goal, some saying their

:22:38. > :22:44.defence is vulnerable, they are a major concern, but can Argentina

:22:45. > :22:58.capitalise? Let's enjoy this, which set up.

:22:59. > :23:14.COMMENTATOR: So, it is a hot start here. Kevin Durant has really

:23:15. > :23:22.helped, the only player to score so far for the United States, he has

:23:23. > :23:26.got all seven points. It is something that was said, this side

:23:27. > :23:31.want to score all the points, but someone has to play a different kind

:23:32. > :23:45.of role, and so far we haven't seen that. He was looking to off-load

:23:46. > :23:52.that to Patricio Garino. And Argentina can go again. Finding

:23:53. > :24:00.plenty of room for Argentina, the attempt to three. No good. Duran

:24:01. > :24:26.almost losing his own balder. DeAndre Jordan is not the best

:24:27. > :24:34.free-throw shooter, but that isn't free-throw, he still misses, but a

:24:35. > :24:42.good reference -- defensive rebound. That is blocked, but he somehow gets

:24:43. > :24:50.it away. Garino, a fine start here from Argentina, a 5-point lead. They

:24:51. > :24:57.are making their shots. Effectively bans, that is a telling step at this

:24:58. > :25:09.early stage. I'm not sure how long they will be able to keep that up.

:25:10. > :25:21.Garino, some clever work, and camp -- Campazzo, it is in! Campazzo has

:25:22. > :25:24.really started an intense first flurry. Now, turnover for Argentina,

:25:25. > :25:49.and a shot for three. Thompson does it well. Finally a

:25:50. > :25:57.basket of the Klay Thompson, that will give his confidence a boost.

:25:58. > :26:01.The USA on the fast break here, Durant with time to measure for the

:26:02. > :26:04.three, and that is just what the United States needed. I don't think

:26:05. > :26:16.they have been down by ten points since they played Australia. Durant

:26:17. > :26:23.is looking fired up. Durant with ten of 14 for the USA to score right

:26:24. > :26:26.now. Brilliant steel and interception, this is George, and

:26:27. > :26:30.brings the house down for the United States with three minutes on the

:26:31. > :26:33.clock. Always the question for Argentina, how consistent can you

:26:34. > :26:40.be? You cannot make mistakes against the United States, Paul George

:26:41. > :26:45.waiting for his moment and then bringing it home with the dog. They

:26:46. > :26:48.are now getting some other scorers in the game, and no surprise

:26:49. > :26:50.Argentina calling the time-out with three minutes on the clock, first

:26:51. > :27:35.quarter. United States finally getting into

:27:36. > :27:41.gear, it has taken while but now they knocking down the shots. Kevin

:27:42. > :27:42.Durant has led the way with ten points, the new Golden State

:27:43. > :27:57.Warriors player showing his quality. This is Campazzo for Argentina. He

:27:58. > :28:04.and Ginobili and the outstanding players of Argentina. That dropped

:28:05. > :28:19.for DeMarcus Cousins, so that is two points, and now they lead by five.

:28:20. > :28:24.So, it is Kyle Lowry, and Jimmy Butler works it in, Durant has now

:28:25. > :28:43.found his range! Ginobili goes himself, but he needs

:28:44. > :28:55.an option out wide. Goes for three, just missing Garino, and Kyle Lowry

:28:56. > :29:09.steams it down, stops and pops and gives it to cousins, who is fouled.

:29:10. > :29:14.Scola wanting to dominate, but Argentina just keeping the

:29:15. > :29:15.scoreboard ticking over. That was the goal previously from Damascus

:29:16. > :29:35.cousins. -- do Marcus cousins. The first of two attempts for

:29:36. > :29:40.Cousins. So, this to draw level, great stance, 83% from Cousins for

:29:41. > :29:51.the tournament. This to draw level. They were down by ten points, the

:29:52. > :29:55.United States, so a remarkable effort to level it up so quickly.

:29:56. > :30:02.That is what they are capable of. Argentina will be pleased with what

:30:03. > :30:05.they have done so far, Scola hasn't finished it off there, and here

:30:06. > :30:14.comes Kyle Lowry for the United States. He has to share the load

:30:15. > :30:19.with the other US players. Jimmy Butler coming inside. Cousins there,

:30:20. > :30:26.the shot clock running down, but gets it in over, so the United

:30:27. > :30:31.States lead 23-21. They have come back well.

:30:32. > :30:45.A chance for three now. Cozens brings it back down the court. Duran

:30:46. > :30:52.brings it down and under the hoop. Debts in the end was Nocioni. The

:30:53. > :30:57.36-year-old with experience in that situation on the first foul from

:30:58. > :31:01.Cozens. The Argentinians can be a frustrating team to play against.

:31:02. > :31:08.They already force couple. They got away with it there. This is the

:31:09. > :31:12.final minute of the first quarter with a 2-point lead for the United

:31:13. > :31:20.States. They are in the penalty fell situation and it was given away and

:31:21. > :31:24.it is a United States ball. George can't believe it but it is going to

:31:25. > :31:36.be US ball here with just under one minute to play in the first quarter.

:31:37. > :31:41.The US are up by two. Nocioni will be watching this very closely.

:31:42. > :32:08.Campazzo comes off for a rest. United States. Brilliant work.

:32:09. > :32:13.Cozens finding room under the hoop. He slams in and the United States

:32:14. > :32:25.are making a statement here with 30 seconds to go. Six points per

:32:26. > :32:28.Cozens. I tell you what, even practising it all day, it hasn't

:32:29. > :32:39.helped me to say Nicolas Laprovittola. He is just happy to

:32:40. > :32:43.spend some time. Scola, thinking about it, Nocioni brings it in an

:32:44. > :32:48.too much pressure at the end. A fast break from the United States, on the

:32:49. > :32:54.buzzer and Mrs Durant. At quarter time it is 25-21. Full credit to the

:32:55. > :32:55.United States. They were 14-7 down but they have steadied the ship

:32:56. > :33:06.here. So, the state 's lead by four points

:33:07. > :33:09.at the end of the quarter and we will go back there very shortly but

:33:10. > :33:12.first let me give you an idea of what else is happening right across

:33:13. > :33:19.the games this evening. At the Maracanazinho there is indoor

:33:20. > :33:27.volleyball. Italy is taking on Iran and Canada lost to Russia earlier

:33:28. > :33:32.today, winning in straight sets 25-1525- 25, 20 5-18. The biggest

:33:33. > :33:35.match in the indoor volleyball is Brazil against Argentina and they

:33:36. > :33:40.have contested the final each of the last three Olympics by only one has

:33:41. > :33:43.been gold. The Brazil dream of reaching a fourth final looked in

:33:44. > :33:46.jeopardy when they lost in the United States of America and Italy,

:33:47. > :33:52.who, as you can see, our heading into the semifinals in the group

:33:53. > :33:55.stages, but they scraped through in fourth place and now they have a

:33:56. > :33:58.really big clash tonight against Argentina. Both sides will be very

:33:59. > :34:03.well supported, there is no love lost between Brazil and Argentina, a

:34:04. > :34:07.rivalry that stems from international football. The

:34:08. > :34:11.Argentines topped the group and 14-macro out of five matches and

:34:12. > :34:14.they have exited at this stage in the last four Olympics since winning

:34:15. > :34:19.their only medal which was a bronze in 1988. If you want to continue

:34:20. > :34:25.watching Italy against Iran, on BBC Four right now. Live coverage

:34:26. > :34:31.continues on BBC Four. In the meantime we will take you back to

:34:32. > :34:38.the Carioca Arena 3, it sounds like karaoke arena but I am saying the

:34:39. > :34:42.Carioca Arena 3 stop send us your tweets via the hash tag #bbcrio2016

:34:43. > :34:44.and we love reading them out later in the evening and we will give you

:34:45. > :34:54.a mention later on. To kick things off, Garino and

:34:55. > :35:12.Nicolas Laprovittola. They are just trying to penetrate

:35:13. > :35:17.here at the moment. Inside and outside of the key they go, slapped

:35:18. > :35:23.away by the United States. Superb work in the end by DeMarcus Cousins.

:35:24. > :35:28.He is under the basket in the end that he was seized by these bills.

:35:29. > :35:33.Of the body, it reflects from Nocioni and it is a US ball. Luis

:35:34. > :35:37.Scola try to do the work in the pack. Look at DeMarcus Cousins,

:35:38. > :35:49.Tania to perfection, saying not in my house. -- timing it to

:35:50. > :35:54.perfection. It is great to watch Nocioni here. He is just going to

:35:55. > :36:00.harass the whole night. That is nothing but net on the fade from

:36:01. > :36:05.Paul George. Against the United States you have to play a perfect

:36:06. > :36:09.game because they will punish you with any apron -- open look you get

:36:10. > :36:17.to the bars and George got one Aaron took it so easily. Nicolas

:36:18. > :36:22.Laprovittola brings it back down. Garino and almost knocking it up

:36:23. > :36:26.here, Argentina. I think it came off the boot there and it may have

:36:27. > :36:29.crossed the centre line. It is a USA ball and all of a sudden the extra

:36:30. > :36:34.pressure from the United States and Argentina are starting to mess

:36:35. > :36:37.things up. They were rattled early on, the United States, but they have

:36:38. > :36:41.composed themselves and just stepping on the line there and that

:36:42. > :36:47.is a violation from Argentina on a United States ball.

:36:48. > :36:56.But lavage and 12.5 minutes on the court for the tournament. DeMarcus

:36:57. > :37:04.Cousins works his way in, physical and in it goes. 3-point play United

:37:05. > :37:09.States. This is the trouble for Argentina, they commit so many fouls

:37:10. > :37:12.and hear DeMarcus Cousins has lost chance as Scola is trying to

:37:13. > :37:16.dominate against DeMarcus Cousins but at the moment he gets the better

:37:17. > :37:19.of him and he knocks down a foul shot is well in the United States

:37:20. > :37:27.get a comfortable lead here. Argentina need to get themselves

:37:28. > :37:33.back in it. Nine points for DeMarcus Cousins. An off-load. They are now

:37:34. > :37:40.bringing it all the way to home as Nicolas Laprovittola and the

:37:41. > :37:44.secondary effort doesn't go. It is a 30-21 lead for the United States.

:37:45. > :37:47.They will be comfortable now. They look like they are getting in their

:37:48. > :37:54.stride and other players scoring points. Not just Kevin Durant.

:37:55. > :38:02.DeMarcus Cousins is dominating which is important. Garino get some rest

:38:03. > :38:12.and Gabriel Deck is now on for Argentina. He is a 21-year-old.

:38:13. > :38:18.Larry brings it down and tries to direct traffic. He moves it forward

:38:19. > :38:22.to Duranty. Gerrard for three. The lips out but the defensive rebound

:38:23. > :38:27.from Butler and the 3-pointer was never going to miss from Duran, who

:38:28. > :38:37.is just on fire at the moment. 33-21. Much of that school goes down

:38:38. > :38:40.against the name of Butler. Look at the turnover, areas, Butler with a

:38:41. > :38:45.fast break, and makes the 3-point play as well. They are feeling it

:38:46. > :38:49.now, the United States. You can't give them second chances, and Kevin

:38:50. > :38:53.Durant got one there, you can't give them turnovers, so what does Jimmy

:38:54. > :38:58.Butler do, steals the ball and takes it all the way and finishes off with

:38:59. > :39:02.a foul in the basket. It is a 3-point play and the USA are now

:39:03. > :39:08.asserting themselves against Argentina. They are making a bit of

:39:09. > :39:16.a statement now. It drops for Butler. 36-21. I just wonder if that

:39:17. > :39:17.early lead heard Argentina. It went the United States up and they

:39:18. > :39:28.realise they had to play. Nicholas put property owner has no

:39:29. > :39:34.options at the moment and brings in an almost coughed up again,

:39:35. > :39:41.Argentina. That will not count. Whistle on the play. Or will

:39:42. > :39:44.account? It well. It came well after the whistle so I think they might

:39:45. > :39:48.review this one. Maybe he was already in the shooting acts that is

:39:49. > :39:51.why they've given it to him. The whistle seem to come pretty early

:39:52. > :39:58.but it was brilliant to actually get it in, he was completely off there.

:39:59. > :40:08.Drawing the foul, Facundo Campazzo, that is ten points for the match for

:40:09. > :40:24.Campazzo to date. We will factor DeMarcus Cousins at this stage.

:40:25. > :40:34.Campazzo to complete the 3-point play and does so. 36-24. They charge

:40:35. > :40:38.again, all alone on that occasion for a living, it doesn't go. A quick

:40:39. > :40:43.break for Nicolas Laprovittola. They need those to drop. At this crucial

:40:44. > :40:46.point in the second quarter. I am not sure what DeMarcus Cousins was

:40:47. > :40:49.trying to block there but it wasn't the ball. It didn't matter in the

:40:50. > :40:52.because Argentina missed a shot. When they get turnovers they have to

:40:53. > :40:56.convert them because this is going to be a really difficult task

:40:57. > :41:01.Argentina. They are not completely out of it though. Campazzo was

:41:02. > :41:10.underneath the hoop and brings out the ball and drove the foul. It is

:41:11. > :41:13.Nicolas Laprovittola. They are slowing things down, Irving, but

:41:14. > :41:17.one-on-one battles mean the United States will come out on top and

:41:18. > :41:24.Argentina need to move the ball around and, -- create the space of

:41:25. > :41:31.the open play out. Inside is Gabriel Deck who is marshalled off it by

:41:32. > :41:37.DeAndre Jordan, the big players are off for Argentina. Begin stature and

:41:38. > :41:41.talent, Scola and Manu Ginobili are on the bench right now. An important

:41:42. > :41:52.basket for Argentina. They are only down by nine now. He is the

:41:53. > :41:56.organiser from back port. It is only the second triple of the day for

:41:57. > :42:05.Argentina. We haven't seen Klay Thompson really get involved as yet.

:42:06. > :42:07.Anthony has done brilliantly to get at Shotton. The United States are

:42:08. > :42:13.keeping that scoreboard ticking over. Delfino was a great 3-point

:42:14. > :42:22.shooter but it doesn't drop for him there. So, it is Irving with some

:42:23. > :42:33.clever play and charging under the hope and he does it well. It is

:42:34. > :42:44.showtime now for the United States. That was talent and opportunity

:42:45. > :42:50.joining together, great combination. Campazzo goes himself and brings in

:42:51. > :42:54.board. Gabriel Deck "With every work under the basket from Marcos Delia

:42:55. > :43:02.but it didn't go. A charge now. Lowry goes himself. Any attempt to

:43:03. > :43:12.slap it away, Anthony was coming down and it is going to be a United

:43:13. > :43:15.States ball. 40-27 here at the Carioca Arena 2 stop Irving with

:43:16. > :43:22.some great work. Look at Kevin Durant, he likes it. Yes, so did

:43:23. > :43:27.Draymond Green. United States look a lot more lively than Lewsey before

:43:28. > :43:31.the game. Manu Ginobili has got a serious face because he knows the

:43:32. > :43:40.Argentinians are up against it here, down by 13 points and the United

:43:41. > :43:50.States have one of their best shooters at the line. He is trying

:43:51. > :43:55.to win a gold medal. He has 73% from the throw before this match but it

:43:56. > :44:05.is lifting here. 100% record. Six minutes left to go in the second

:44:06. > :44:17.quarter. Manu Ginobili comes out for Argentina. Argentina and Nicolas

:44:18. > :44:22.Laprovittola, an option provided out wide by Campazzo. He wants to off

:44:23. > :44:27.load, and does so. Engine appears Gabriel Deck. He misses on the fade

:44:28. > :44:33.away and a rebound from Anthony. It is brought back down the court,

:44:34. > :44:39.courtesy of Irving. A long range from Anthony and it rooms out and

:44:40. > :44:45.scrounge here for Manu Ginobili but he lets it go.

:44:46. > :44:51.The Argentinians can't believe this, they said it clearly came off a

:44:52. > :44:56.United States player. I'm not sure they can review that, that is a

:44:57. > :45:07.pretty clear error if it does go the United States' way. You just have to

:45:08. > :45:12.play the whistle. George the one-two, and that will just hurt

:45:13. > :45:23.Argentina even more. It comes back to Ginobili, Campazzo. Almost

:45:24. > :45:28.dispossessed, diving desperation from Green. The states have

:45:29. > :45:31.certainly woken up. The shots doesn't go, and now the United

:45:32. > :45:36.States can bring it back, but there was an errant hand in there. The

:45:37. > :45:40.United States putting great pressure on the outside players are

:45:41. > :45:44.Argentina, and they are getting some steels, but they are also shooting

:45:45. > :45:47.the three is now, and if the United States get on a role there, that

:45:48. > :45:56.could be trouble for Argentina. Scola is looking worried, Butler and

:45:57. > :46:07.George looking fired up. And it is Irving again. He certainly has his

:46:08. > :46:09.eye in now. The United States haven't looked this comfortable

:46:10. > :46:14.since they played their opening games. They have a 20 point lead

:46:15. > :46:17.now, it didn't look like it was going to get that way when they were

:46:18. > :46:26.ten points down in the first quarter. Here is Deck out of a

:46:27. > :46:34.Campazzo, being checked by Klay Thompson. The organiser Ginobili

:46:35. > :46:57.with a three attempt. And it falls out to lap River lap River

:46:58. > :47:07.George's first personal foul. Here he comes back onto the court here,

:47:08. > :47:18.Nocioni, who is going to apply more pressure for Argentina. Campazzo,

:47:19. > :47:21.Laprovittola takes on two, but there was nothing to pass it to, and no

:47:22. > :47:32.cohesion there at all from the Argentinians. And the US can repel.

:47:33. > :47:39.The turnover is costly in pressure cooker situations. For three, it

:47:40. > :47:44.hoops site for George, will he go again? Second time lucky! No, the

:47:45. > :47:52.rebound is far and Tony, but there has been a whistle. Argentina can

:47:53. > :47:59.ill afford making so many turnovers and not getting offensive rebound

:48:00. > :48:03.is. Carmelo Anthony getting that one there, but that was another 3-point

:48:04. > :48:06.attempt, and if they continue like that, the United States will just

:48:07. > :48:12.punish them. They need to fix that part of their game. So, three

:48:13. > :48:15.personals next to the name of Carmelo Anthony, dangerous territory

:48:16. > :48:18.for him approaching half-time with the time-out called. Four minutes

:48:19. > :49:29.left to go in the first half. Argentina need to step it up,

:49:30. > :49:34.because they are down by 20 points. The United States have stepped it up

:49:35. > :49:41.since they were down by ten. The points being shared, Durant getting

:49:42. > :49:48.16, Argentina needing their big guns to fire. Nocioni is one of them.

:49:49. > :49:57.Durant just ran into trouble. Argentina looking for the fast

:49:58. > :50:03.break, it is going to be a United States ball, Nocioni is permanently

:50:04. > :50:10.looking for the ball. It has been frustrating for him, not so for the

:50:11. > :50:19.United States. Inbound from the sideline for Kevin Durant. Durant

:50:20. > :50:25.who finished the first half in similar fashion, as it is, Lowry

:50:26. > :50:36.Palms it off, Butler goes himself. And in the end, it was excellent

:50:37. > :50:39.work from Jimmy Butler. Five points for the match, almost teetering

:50:40. > :50:48.around his average, no one to pass it to. Ginobili slapped away, second

:50:49. > :51:00.chance, and on the side. And in it goes. Three minutes left to go,

:51:01. > :51:05.second corner. It deflects, second opportunity now for Thompson,

:51:06. > :51:11.Thompson under the basket. And the US really making a statement now.

:51:12. > :51:20.They have steadied the ship. Quite dominant with no answers from

:51:21. > :51:24.Argentina, a real scrounge here. Ginobili misses, charging back down

:51:25. > :51:33.the court. Lowry, was that for three? It was. 54-29, and they have

:51:34. > :51:40.hit top gear now, the United States. Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler getting

:51:41. > :51:45.points. The United States looking good here, Klay Thompson 43, but

:51:46. > :51:51.still Thompson, it is bewildering, he was so good for the Golden State

:51:52. > :52:04.Warriors during the MBA Stevenson -- the NBA season. Brilliantly done

:52:05. > :52:13.from Ginobili, and it is the United States 54, there is now 23 points

:52:14. > :52:21.between them. Anthony able to beat one, beat two, class! And now it is

:52:22. > :52:23.showtime. Ginobili with four for the match, 1840 around, he is really

:52:24. > :52:31.wrapping them up on the quick turnaround. This first half is

:52:32. > :52:37.finishing very well for the United States, Klay Thompson is just not

:52:38. > :52:42.confident at the moment, and he has given the ball away, and now Nocioni

:52:43. > :52:47.sets himself for the three, it is still a 20 point deficit for

:52:48. > :52:53.Argentina. Not out of it, but it is looking tough. Nocioni thinking he

:52:54. > :52:56.should have had a few more. Jimmy Butler, what a contribution he has

:52:57. > :53:04.made, seven points from the bench, the Chicago Bulls player. It has

:53:05. > :53:09.come off Ginobili's head, and he manages to get hold of the ball. The

:53:10. > :53:13.Argentinian fans are really getting behind their team, can they will

:53:14. > :53:19.demand? Campazzo, last minute of this first half. Ginobili thought

:53:20. > :53:25.about the three, pressure from Kevin Durant. Here is Campazzo, there is

:53:26. > :53:32.no space for Argentina, it is a foul on Lowry.

:53:33. > :53:44.It is going to be ten points from the foul line, two shots from the

:53:45. > :53:48.foul line. Kevin Durant has been dominating, look at that. But as

:53:49. > :53:54.extraordinary stuff, it is effortless for Kevin Durant. Most

:53:55. > :53:58.people wouldn't dream of doing something like that. 18 points for

:53:59. > :54:02.Durant. Even the US bench thinks that is special. Andre Jordan

:54:03. > :55:08.doesn't know what to do with himself. Time-out called.

:55:09. > :55:15.So, some brilliant work on the court, but off the court, DeAndre

:55:16. > :55:28.Jordan is lapping it up as well. And at the stripe, Argentina.

:55:29. > :55:42.Laprovittola has points next to his name. Cousins in, Thompson off. 40

:55:43. > :55:45.seconds left. Lowry has Campazzo for company, and a turnover, Argentina

:55:46. > :55:51.on the fast break for three, they need a few of these to drop. Rebound

:55:52. > :55:58.and layup from Nocioni is enough for now. The United States can wear down

:55:59. > :56:03.the shot clock, but they decide to hurry it anyway. Cousins couldn't

:56:04. > :56:07.get clear air, brilliant defence from Argentina thanks to

:56:08. > :56:15.Laprovittola, who is doing it from both ends. So, Cousins with some

:56:16. > :56:22.time to think about it, and now Argentina can wear down the shot

:56:23. > :56:29.clock and gamecock. 12 seconds, a three would be nice for Argentina.

:56:30. > :56:39.-- game clock. They go under the hoop, and it comes out. US ball with

:56:40. > :56:50.three seconds left to go. Laprovittola finding clear air, the

:56:51. > :56:54.United States, downtown shot from Butler misses, 56-40 at half-time to

:56:55. > :57:00.the United States, they have made a statement here, and Argentina giving

:57:01. > :57:04.their all, but in what has been a very entertaining quarterfinal so

:57:05. > :57:09.far, the United States lead by 16 at the main break.

:57:10. > :57:12.STUDIO: We will be back for the third quarter very shortly, the

:57:13. > :57:14.American press are pretty unforgiving when it comes to

:57:15. > :57:18.following the dream team, and because they haven't been very

:57:19. > :57:24.impressive in the opening rounds, they have been very critical,

:57:25. > :57:30.particularly about the defence, but they are making easy work of that.

:57:31. > :57:33.Let's turn our attention to Great Britain's women's hockey team,

:57:34. > :57:37.unbeaten in Rio so far. They are having a wonderful tournament, and

:57:38. > :57:52.they took on New Zealand. Lily Owsley claims she was

:57:53. > :58:07.obstructed, and she was. Penalty corner given, using her pace really

:58:08. > :58:14.well. It is a nightmare, you can see she was blatantly blocked, the

:58:15. > :58:19.shoulder across the body. Georgie Twigg preparing to inject. Crista

:58:20. > :58:24.Cullen and Nicola White could potentially get involved. Let's see

:58:25. > :58:30.if Crista Cullen can put Great Britain on the scoresheet. The flick

:58:31. > :58:32.is saved, it is pushed home! Alex Danson gets the first goal of the

:58:33. > :58:44.match for Great Britain. So often you see an penalty corner

:58:45. > :58:47.rebound, the strikers anticipate the rebound off the goalkeeper. Sally

:58:48. > :58:52.Rutherford does well to make the initial save from Crista Cullen, but

:58:53. > :58:57.Alex Danson quickest to it. Flicks the ball over Rutherford's kicker,

:58:58. > :59:02.and I think Brooke Neal gets half a touch on it. It is Brooke Neal that

:59:03. > :59:10.puts it into the back of the net, but because Alex Denson touched it

:59:11. > :59:18.last, she is credited with that goal. New Zealand 1-0 Great Britain.

:59:19. > :59:26.New Zealand restarting from just outside their circle. Good tackle

:59:27. > :59:30.from Townsend, she takes it up towards New Zealand's circle,

:59:31. > :59:38.looking for the backhand cross, runs out of turf.

:59:39. > :59:47.Whitelock, and goodness me, that got Georgie Twigg fully in the face as

:59:48. > :59:51.it flew off the New Zealand stick. That is really nasty.

:59:52. > :00:01.Here it is again. Looks like it is potentially on the chin. Georgie

:00:02. > :00:09.Twigg is back on her feet, and is helped away from the field of play

:00:10. > :00:14.to warm applause from both sets of supporters. It has been a hugely

:00:15. > :00:15.physical encounter, but we don't want to see any injuries, especially

:00:16. > :00:31.at this stage of the games. Danson has found Helen

:00:32. > :00:37.Richardson-Walsh. Can she score? Penalty stroke. Penalty stroke

:00:38. > :00:41.awarded. Helen Richardson Walsh upended by the goalkeeper, in a

:00:42. > :00:50.dangerous position just in front of goal. Great Britain 1-0 up. Helen

:00:51. > :01:01.Richardson-Walsh will take the penalty stroke. She scores. She has

:01:02. > :01:05.picked up a knock, Helen Richardson-Walsh limped away after a

:01:06. > :01:08.penalty stroke, surrounded by team-mates, she will have a go off

:01:09. > :01:13.the field of play now. Another injury for Great Britain, another

:01:14. > :01:20.worrying casualty, but New Zealand zero, Great Britain two. This is

:01:21. > :01:27.promising for Great Britain. Lily Elsie has a turn. Penalty stroke

:01:28. > :01:33.again! Al Slue was absolutely flattened. She is in a bitter

:01:34. > :01:40.problems as well. -- a bit of trouble as well. She has got it!

:01:41. > :01:53.Danson scores her second. Great Britain lead New Zealand 3-0, with

:01:54. > :01:57.under nine minutes left to play. The last ten seconds of this match, and

:01:58. > :02:04.Great Britain are guaranteed at least the silver medal, we hope the

:02:05. > :02:09.gold. They will do battle with the Dutch on Friday. There is the final

:02:10. > :02:15.hooter. Great Britain are in the Olympic final. A fantastic

:02:16. > :02:19.performance. What a tournament they have had. Yet to lose a match, and

:02:20. > :02:25.they've won the most important one so far comfortably. It was a

:02:26. > :02:30.fantastic piece of play anything by Lily down the side. She is fantastic

:02:31. > :02:34.and very skilful and I think she won the stroke and it was just a case of

:02:35. > :02:38.doing my job and keeping cool in getting the ball hard and in the

:02:39. > :02:40.corner so when it went in I was absolutely delighted. As one of the

:02:41. > :02:43.senior players you have been through so much, it has been such an

:02:44. > :02:47.up-and-down journey for a long period of time but now it is up. One

:02:48. > :02:51.thing the team has and has had over the years and the 31 in the squad

:02:52. > :02:55.have believed. We believe we have to come out here and deliver the

:02:56. > :03:00.tactics and we have gone one game at a time and there is one more to

:03:01. > :03:03.play. I spoke to Simon a few minutes ago, talking about the significance

:03:04. > :03:06.of this win for the sport on what you girls have done, or the women

:03:07. > :03:11.have done for sporting Great Britain, can you sum that up for us?

:03:12. > :03:15.I hope what everybody sees is the tightest group of women who could

:03:16. > :03:19.possibly be out there, we are such 18, and that is 31 and every athlete

:03:20. > :03:22.who has ever played for Great Britain, we have all believed in

:03:23. > :03:29.this for a long time and we believe in our programme and work hard in

:03:30. > :03:32.the spirit and the players and the team is what has got us to this

:03:33. > :03:35.point and it will hopefully get us one more. It is an absolutely

:03:36. > :03:37.incredible story but don't be too surprised by the success of the

:03:38. > :03:41.Great Britain women's hockey team because they were outstanding at

:03:42. > :03:44.2012 as well, led by Kate Richardson-Walsh, and they are into

:03:45. > :03:47.the final and will take on the Netherlands, who got there by

:03:48. > :03:52.beating Germany and this is how they got there.

:03:53. > :04:03.The injection will come from Annie Schroeder. They have decided to swap

:04:04. > :04:12.it now. They have Julia Muller on the top. Moeller. It is dangerous

:04:13. > :04:21.and in the first goal of the match goes to Germany. Julia Muller and

:04:22. > :04:26.unleashes a bullet from the top. Schutz is there to play the ball in.

:04:27. > :04:29.The Dutch goalkeeper has to be disappointed with this because it

:04:30. > :04:33.went straight down the middle and the ball nearly went underneath her

:04:34. > :04:37.but she needs to know exactly what Julia Muller will do. Two Dutch

:04:38. > :04:46.defenders were around but the ball went in. 1-0 to Germany. The second

:04:47. > :04:55.penalty corner of the match for the Dutch. That is a great goal, that is

:04:56. > :05:02.a beauty. This is why she is regarded as the best drag a kicker

:05:03. > :05:11.of the world. She is closing of on 200 international goal and she

:05:12. > :05:14.celebrates like her first. Maartje Paumen. The driving force behind

:05:15. > :05:19.this Dutch team has got them back in it. Penalty shoot-out for a

:05:20. > :05:37.guaranteed Olympic medal and a place in the gold-medal match to commence.

:05:38. > :05:43.Of the goalkeeper and in. It is aimed, of the goalkeeper and in. We

:05:44. > :05:52.had to wait, as that one floated towards the goal but find the

:05:53. > :05:58.target. Saved. Terrific goalkeeping. Reynolds watched her every set --

:05:59. > :06:07.step of the way as she shuffled to the left of the circle. Up to the

:06:08. > :06:20.edge. Which way will she go? It is in. She makes sure for Germany.

:06:21. > :06:29.That is saved. She has missed. Another great safer Reynolds. The

:06:30. > :06:37.Dutch are one from three. She has to make a save here. On her way. Back

:06:38. > :06:39.hand, it is saved and it is over. The Dutch just got a lifeline with

:06:40. > :07:00.that save. A great penalty. She is taking her time is running

:07:01. > :07:11.out of options and seconds. The goalie got the job done. All square.

:07:12. > :07:18.A fifth penalty for the Dutch. Reynolds makes the save. Just there

:07:19. > :07:30.she didn't move Reynolds enough. The Dutch need heroics from Sombroek.

:07:31. > :07:36.Sombroek makes the save. We're into sudden death. It started so well for

:07:37. > :07:41.the Germans, scoring the first two but Sombroek has shown what a good

:07:42. > :07:44.goalkeeper she actually is. Now it is the sudden death situation. The

:07:45. > :07:54.German captain against the Dutch goalkeeper. Oh, she squeezed in

:07:55. > :08:05.somehow. What a finish! An extraordinary angle. From that

:08:06. > :08:11.angle, diving, take about! Reynolds has saved, she will get another

:08:12. > :08:19.chance and she makes no mistake. The whistle goes, eight seconds and she

:08:20. > :08:27.is coming at speed. No, it is wide of the goal, she tried to go through

:08:28. > :08:32.the legs of Sombroek. Can she get past Reynolds? She is slaloming left

:08:33. > :08:35.and right and a backhand shot and she scores. The Netherlands are

:08:36. > :08:41.guaranteed a medal in the Olympic hockey tournament. The Dutch have

:08:42. > :08:46.done it. The Dutch are in the Olympic final.

:08:47. > :08:50.The Netherlands are very much the team to beat as the reigning Olympic

:08:51. > :08:55.and world champions going for an unprecedented third Olympic gold

:08:56. > :09:01.medal in a row. They lost the champions Trophy to Argentina will

:09:02. > :09:08.stop I suggest you put Friday 9pm in your diary right now. That will be

:09:09. > :09:12.live on the BBC. It will be a terrific night. One of the other big

:09:13. > :09:16.talking points here in Brazil, especially on the Copacabana is will

:09:17. > :09:19.Brazil win the men's football gold because they are under so much

:09:20. > :09:25.pressure, especially after the Brazil women were knocked out by

:09:26. > :09:35.Sweden in penalties in heartbreaking fashion. Today they took on

:09:36. > :09:41.Honduras. So, the most successful football nation in history. They may

:09:42. > :09:47.have won the World Cup five times but so far and Olympic gold medal

:09:48. > :09:53.has eluded them. What a start. Could that be the opener already? Any

:09:54. > :10:11.nerves they might have had could have dissipated. Neymar! Neymar did

:10:12. > :10:22.so well to read it. Honduras have tried to stop Brazil in any way they

:10:23. > :10:27.possibly can and it is not working and Luan plays it through and it is

:10:28. > :10:35.true. He adds to the early goal from Neymar and gives Brazil the kind of

:10:36. > :10:40.lead they have merited. There are 200 million watching at home and

:10:41. > :10:45.they would wish for what we are witnessing. Game over. Jesus with

:10:46. > :10:53.his second damn Brazil with their third. Honduras are looking just as

:10:54. > :10:57.vulnerable as they did before a double substitution rate at

:10:58. > :11:07.half-time. A corner for Brazil. There is no marking, and it is

:11:08. > :11:10.number four and this time it is Marquinhos on target. The same

:11:11. > :11:13.number of goals as though on the back of his shirt and they make it

:11:14. > :11:22.to the final and there is joy bridled at the Maracana. This side

:11:23. > :11:26.are going to be in that gold medal final and they are going to be

:11:27. > :11:29.playing like this, and looking for number five. It is just exquisite to

:11:30. > :11:49.watch and is Luan makes it a rout. A penalty. A challenge from behind.

:11:50. > :12:02.The referee says I have no choice. Neymar started the scoring. Neymar

:12:03. > :12:10.complete the scoring. Brazil six, Honduras zero. You can probably hear

:12:11. > :12:11.200 million people right across this huge country all are celebrating as

:12:12. > :12:22.one. He could end up being the face of

:12:23. > :12:26.the Rio games. Joy and relief for Brazil and Neymar and in the final

:12:27. > :12:31.they will face the familiar foes, Germany, after they beat Nigeria in

:12:32. > :12:36.the other semifinal. Goals from Costa Menard Peterson were enough to

:12:37. > :12:40.send the Germans through. You could write this all make it up but it has

:12:41. > :12:47.set up a mouthwatering final, repeat of the 2014 World Cup semifinal in

:12:48. > :12:52.Bella horizontally which Germany sensationally won 7-1. American will

:12:53. > :12:58.host the final between these footballing giants that have nine

:12:59. > :13:03.World Cup wins between them. Amazing. Let us take you back to the

:13:04. > :13:08.Carioca Arena 2 because we have are very interested spectator. There he

:13:09. > :13:12.is, Floyd Mayweather. Look at that watch, it is beautiful. He is there

:13:13. > :13:18.watching the American basketball team tonight in the Carioca Arena 2

:13:19. > :13:23.number one, taking on Argentina. Earlier today Spain beat France by

:13:24. > :13:25.92-67 and booked their place in the semifinal and this is a quarterfinal

:13:26. > :13:39.match the third quarter. Thompson is yet to get going in this

:13:40. > :13:46.game, he has committed a few files, but that is not the Klay Thompson

:13:47. > :14:08.everyone knows. Two files to be in the Zack Test.

:14:09. > :14:15.Makes no mistake with the second. Gerrard comes storming down the

:14:16. > :14:23.court, and for three. What about that? Another one for Anthony. The

:14:24. > :14:31.United States have fired out of the blocks here in the second half.

:14:32. > :14:38.Great work from Anthony under the basket, and as they repelled, it

:14:39. > :14:50.doesn't go. Campazzo steadies the ship. In to Scola, but it is back

:14:51. > :15:01.into the arms of Irving, who quickly transitions the basketball. It is

:15:02. > :15:07.quick movement, and it is Argentina through Garino scoring. United

:15:08. > :15:10.States are shooting well from outside, and as long as that

:15:11. > :15:18.continues to happen, this margin will not be cut. Here is the Andre

:15:19. > :15:26.Jordan, and it is blocked by Ginobili. They

:15:27. > :15:34.still going to be a United States ball, 20 point lead for them, and

:15:35. > :15:45.what a jump from Nocioni to stop the big man Jordan. He replies with a

:15:46. > :15:53.massive dunk. DeAndre Jordan, looking at the Argentinians as if to

:15:54. > :16:02.say, I'm still here. 3-point attempts just not missing for the

:16:03. > :16:09.United States at the moment. 22 the margin.

:16:10. > :16:19.He is going one-on-one with Nocioni. He can't get it in over Ginobili,

:16:20. > :16:27.eventually gets the foul on the basket, and it is all going the

:16:28. > :16:34.United States' way right now. Carmelo Anthony will try to get the

:16:35. > :16:39.3-point play, they just can't get a grip of this United States offence.

:16:40. > :16:46.Jordan after being blocked replies with a dunk. Here is, though Anthony

:16:47. > :16:53.going for the 3-point play. He misses macro, Scola does well to

:16:54. > :17:05.keep it in. Argentina need to start making some baskets, they need to

:17:06. > :17:07.start making threes. And Manu Ginobili gets the three for

:17:08. > :17:25.Argentina from downtown. Now offer three, that never looked

:17:26. > :17:29.like missing from Scola. Nine next other name of Scola, this is a fast

:17:30. > :17:35.and furious third quarter as you come to expect when the are

:17:36. > :17:42.informed. Just a little bit of aggression there. Campazzo

:17:43. > :17:43.complaining that he has been scraped in the left eye. A little bit of

:17:44. > :17:54.backchat. Jordan in the thick of things, as he

:17:55. > :17:59.tends to be, because he is such a strong, aggressive player, and the

:18:00. > :18:02.referee explaining what he did and what he wants to see from Jordan in

:18:03. > :18:15.future, which is none of that physical stuff. A sarcastic clap it

:18:16. > :18:16.seems from the under Jordan. Just driving Campazzo into Irving there,

:18:17. > :18:30.he was a bit of a sandwich, I think. Ginobili just telling his team-mate,

:18:31. > :18:36.stay cool, we need you in this game, it is a 20 point lead for the United

:18:37. > :18:37.States. DeAndre Jordan has been a pivotal figure for the United

:18:38. > :18:50.States. He has missed from the foul line.

:18:51. > :19:07.Might be the first Miss of a three -- three throws so far. It is a 21

:19:08. > :19:14.point lead for the United States. Argentina into the corner, and it

:19:15. > :19:18.comes back out to Campazzo, and now Scola. They fly off the boards, this

:19:19. > :19:29.time, Thompson. Scola goes carrying back, chance for

:19:30. > :19:37.Anthony brings a backing board initially. That is so unlike the

:19:38. > :19:43.United States. I don't think Klay Thompson has hit the back board from

:19:44. > :19:45.the 3-point shot in his life. Where was that going, that was

:19:46. > :19:52.extraordinary. It is happening further DeAndre Jordan. They are

:19:53. > :20:00.dominating inside, and they are getting their shots in, it is all

:20:01. > :20:11.going the United States' way. Cousins for three, misses, and it is

:20:12. > :20:14.Campazzo who brings it back down. We are back to a margin of 21 at the

:20:15. > :20:29.Carioca Arena. Back within 20 now, 19 with five

:20:30. > :20:32.minutes left in the third quarter. A little sting has gone out of the

:20:33. > :20:38.game since it fired up a few minutes ago.

:20:39. > :20:45.And the regulation layup in the end Irving does the business. Both teams

:20:46. > :20:53.keep exchanging baskets, the United States will be more than happy with

:20:54. > :20:55.that. Scola decided not to take the three, but you suspect Argentina

:20:56. > :21:03.will need some triples to get back in this. They are taking their time,

:21:04. > :21:11.Ginobili being checked by Durant to, it was a pressure effort for

:21:12. > :21:19.Ginobili, the towering Durant making it a hard shot to make for the

:21:20. > :21:24.distance. They are getting points from everywhere, Cousins with nine,

:21:25. > :21:32.Butler with seven, Irving 11. And Kevin Durant, 24. Klay Thompson is

:21:33. > :21:41.zero from six, an extraordinary statistic from him. No one to pass

:21:42. > :21:46.it to other moment for Campazzo. Ginobili presents the option, they

:21:47. > :21:52.are on the fade. And a regulation rebound for the United States.

:21:53. > :22:07.And that has come off Argentina, I believe. We haven't been tracking

:22:08. > :22:10.Durant's schools. 24 other moment. Carmelo Anthony cannot foul any

:22:11. > :22:22.more, one more and he will be fouled out of the game, so we might not see

:22:23. > :22:29.him in court for a while. Scola dominating over the Argentine big

:22:30. > :22:33.man is DeMarcus Cousins. Campazzo directing traffic, Ginobili almost

:22:34. > :22:43.stole it away from Butler. ARGENTINA ball. Maybe the memories of 2004 I

:22:44. > :22:48.just taking hold for the United States. They lost that one in the

:22:49. > :22:53.Olympic Games semifinal, they are putting on a show here so far, and

:22:54. > :23:02.Ginobili putting on a show so far, getting the file, and he gets the

:23:03. > :23:06.basket, two, 12 points next to the name of Ginobili, Cousins with his

:23:07. > :23:26.third personal foul. So, adds the extra and it is now 13

:23:27. > :23:31.on the scorecard for Ginobili. Both teams quite proficient from the

:23:32. > :23:34.line. A little bit of training there from Cousins.

:23:35. > :23:44.It is turned over, Ginobili was initially going for three, what

:23:45. > :23:47.about the block there? Secondary attempt for three, doesn't go,

:23:48. > :24:01.rebound Butler, and off to Kevin Durant. He is prepared to pass it

:24:02. > :24:07.around. The six turnovers and blocks, it is now Argentina who can

:24:08. > :24:11.steam back down the court. Ginobili for three again. Desperate attempt

:24:12. > :24:17.in this third quarter to land some threes, and they are not dropping

:24:18. > :24:25.for Argentina. Here come the States again. Lowry, actor Paul George,

:24:26. > :24:32.plenty of time for him, he has missed the 3-point attempt.

:24:33. > :24:34.Argentina are getting reprieves, but they are not taking advantage of

:24:35. > :24:46.them. 2.24 to play in the third quarter,

:24:47. > :24:51.Argentina need to start taking advantage of the turnovers, and that

:24:52. > :24:57.was that block from Paul George, Scola didn't see him coming. That

:24:58. > :25:01.was a special moment here in the third quarter. Six blocks from the

:25:02. > :25:06.United States, dominating in all the major departments. It is giving

:25:07. > :25:14.cause for concern for the Argentinian coach. Can't foul any

:25:15. > :25:19.more. The United States said the shot was put up, and airball, and we

:25:20. > :25:24.just wonder, where is the inspiration going to come from? So

:25:25. > :25:33.far it has not been up to the standard. Effort and workrate from

:25:34. > :25:34.Ginobili, no doubt about that. George is thinking about bringing it

:25:35. > :25:39.in himself. 80-58. So, it is Campazzo, going

:25:40. > :26:02.wide. Scola wants it, goes himself,

:26:03. > :26:12.nothing but air for Mainoldi. And Durant misses. Magnificent stuff

:26:13. > :26:16.from Kevin Durant, 27 points for him, the Argentinians can not stop

:26:17. > :26:22.his outside shooting. How does a big man shoot like that from outside?

:26:23. > :26:28.Extraordinary stuff, and the USA well in control here, the time-out

:26:29. > :26:31.is called by Argentina. United States have a 25 point lead, less

:26:32. > :27:23.than two minutes left in the third quarter.

:27:24. > :27:32.You get the impression that Sergio Santos Hernandez is really asking

:27:33. > :27:37.himself for answers now. He has run out of ideas. What do you do? But

:27:38. > :27:45.that is what the USA can do, they just clamp you down, and it is now

:27:46. > :27:47.Campazzo to Scola, and he goes himself, storming through is

:27:48. > :27:59.Ginobili. Popping that up was George,

:28:00. > :28:04.secondary opportunity. That is where they kill you, the United States,

:28:05. > :28:14.with their secondary attempts. So, a minute left. Argentina with the

:28:15. > :28:15.ball, and Campazzo out to Scola for three. It is a long-range
