:00:00. > :00:00.Winning this game, you've got to win the match, semifinal. It's a final

:00:00. > :00:24.The coach saying, back kick. Potential advice there. Alexey

:00:25. > :00:35.Denisenko of Russia, Jaouad Achab the Belgian.

:00:36. > :00:42.Have a left foot in front well your opponent has the opposite, it opens

:00:43. > :00:48.out your chest, gives an angle they can come into, it leaves an opening.

:00:49. > :00:54.None of them wanting to take it on, using that front leg to jab, to

:00:55. > :00:58.cover distance. Does it leave it open for the push kick or the

:00:59. > :01:02.turning kick? Usually the turning kick from the back leg, you want

:01:03. > :01:07.your opponent to rush in which is why you use the back leg. As a wise

:01:08. > :01:18.man once said, where full 's rush in... A little bit too hesitant,

:01:19. > :01:21.there. Holding in the clinch, Jedward Achab, the smaller of the

:01:22. > :01:43.two, that slight blemish on the scoreboard. -- Jaouad Ahsab if it

:01:44. > :01:52.goes to 0-0, then goes to sudden death. Two tumbles against and it is

:01:53. > :01:55.a full point to your opponent. A full back turning kick from

:01:56. > :02:00.Denisenko followed by a head shot. That was a fantastic one. That stand

:02:01. > :02:10.Achab, and he's going to be stung into action here. -- the Russian

:02:11. > :02:15.tries again with a double kick. Achab tries the back kick. That is

:02:16. > :02:20.what I mean about changing the hole game now. Achab all of a sudden

:02:21. > :02:24.realises he has nothing to lose. He's going to come forward, take

:02:25. > :02:32.chances. That means you can leave himself open for Denisenko as well.

:02:33. > :02:37.Taking the chance, Achab goes forward with the punch. Denisenko

:02:38. > :02:45.will take the tumble this time, as we discussed. If he takes one more

:02:46. > :02:55.of those that could be it. Denisenko, covering, moving. That is

:02:56. > :03:03.going to be a second, and that makes it five to the Russian. 5-0, with 15

:03:04. > :03:09.seconds in the third round, one foot in the ring, one foot in the final,

:03:10. > :03:16.Denisenko running away here. Could he run into the Olympic Games final?

:03:17. > :03:23.The Belgian four points down. Goes with the back kick, Denisenko falls.

:03:24. > :03:28.Can Jaouad Ashab find the shot? Can Alexey Denisenko hang on? Goes with

:03:29. > :03:35.the push kick, closes the door. Alexey Denisenko of Russia, he's

:03:36. > :03:42.into the Olympic Games final. Try as he might, Jaouad Ashab, exhausted,

:03:43. > :03:47.nice embrace between the two fighters, but Alexey Denisenko, so

:03:48. > :03:50.professional. He was. He just waited for his time, and Jaouad Ashab knew

:03:51. > :03:54.that it was drifting away from him all the time. Denisenko just did

:03:55. > :04:01.everything right. Good match from him. He got the attacks right at the

:04:02. > :04:08.right time, he got his coordination right, and in the end, he found a

:04:09. > :04:13.way through. We will show you the second semifinal in the taekwondo in

:04:14. > :04:20.a moment. The hockey is now on BBC Two. We showed you the goals on BBC

:04:21. > :04:24.Four, it was an BBC One we told you last, I know this is one of the

:04:25. > :04:29.regular complaints back home about the channel changes, so apologies on

:04:30. > :04:34.behalf of the entire BBC. It is now over on BBC Two. I don't know why I

:04:35. > :04:39.am apologising, nothing to do with me whatsoever. We will show you any

:04:40. > :04:44.more goals that happen. On the Red Button right now, you can see some

:04:45. > :04:52.Greco-Roman wrestling which I think our wonderful security man,

:04:53. > :05:01.Mauricio, he prefers the Greco-Roman wrestling to the taekwondo. Give as

:05:02. > :05:08.a wave, Richie. Occasionally, he smiles. That is the first smile we

:05:09. > :05:16.have got. -- give us a wave, Mauricio. You're Big Star back home.

:05:17. > :05:22.He has been in Brazil for ten days with no trouble from any fans, and

:05:23. > :05:31.then the Brits turn up. Richard says, love the show, thank you very

:05:32. > :05:43.much, how many Caipirinhas have you had? Why don't they do circuits like

:05:44. > :05:50.normal blokes? That is a very good question. The circuit trainers will

:05:51. > :05:54.be here about eight o'clock. That is about two hours. And Anthony Wall

:05:55. > :06:00.Thompson will be among them, ten days on the trot, he has trained. So

:06:01. > :06:07.many of you have been impressed with Eddie, the 73-year-old triathlete.

:06:08. > :06:19.Linda said, not all older people sit around doing nothing. That was a bit

:06:20. > :06:23.ageist on your part. I am well aware that there are older people who get

:06:24. > :06:29.out and about a bit, but I putting in my place on that one. Sharon

:06:30. > :06:35.says, I am 50, I was up at three this morning, I went for a run, I

:06:36. > :06:43.want to be like her. What a fabulous lady Eddie is, said Della. Another

:06:44. > :06:48.viewer says Eddie should be an inspiration to us all, she's never

:06:49. > :06:53.73. And Beverly says, Eddie, what an inspiration. And an absolutely

:06:54. > :06:58.lovely lady. And Naomi sent a nice message, staying in a hotel, breathe

:06:59. > :07:08.a sigh of relief, first night in the hotel and they have BBC Four. I'd do

:07:09. > :07:12.not want to miss out on the Copacabinmen. You can see that the

:07:13. > :07:17.bins are ready for collection. The beach still has quite a few people

:07:18. > :07:23.on it tonight. They would normally be here with a tractor, the sand

:07:24. > :07:28.sifter comes around as well. That was a new development yesterday. Sad

:07:29. > :07:37.news about all of those wanting to do what the kebabs are like. The

:07:38. > :07:45.Copakebabmen, we have been hunting for them. He has a barbecue on his

:07:46. > :07:50.lap in front of them. He barbecues that bad boy right in front of you,

:07:51. > :07:56.and then that cheese is yours. What are we looking at? There is the

:07:57. > :08:08.beach waiter, taking Caipirinhas down the beach. It has got a bit of

:08:09. > :08:24.liquor and some lines in it. I am not sure what the pink drink is. He

:08:25. > :08:38.could do a Copacacocktail! This is a second semifinal in the taekwondo.

:08:39. > :08:42.This is some more marvellous names Ahmad Abughaush of Jordan, taking on

:08:43. > :08:58.Joel Gonzalez of Spain. Ahmad Abughaush won the Asian

:08:59. > :09:02.champions Sandy will champion is back in 2012. -- the Championships.

:09:03. > :09:22.The semifinal here. Taking a nice, leisurely stroll into

:09:23. > :09:27.the centre of the ring. They do look cool, calm and collected. I have got

:09:28. > :09:34.to say. I remember my legs being like jelly. The jumping jacks being

:09:35. > :09:47.performed by Ahmad Abughaush, from Jordan.

:09:48. > :10:03.Joel Gonzalez Bonilla, there. Olympic champion, Gonzalez Bonilla.

:10:04. > :10:17.He studies criminology. Going to have to be absolutely clinical here.

:10:18. > :10:35.The man in the middle is a Canadian, Kim Song Chul. Ahmad Abughaush, from

:10:36. > :10:41.Jordan. Joel Gonzalez Bonilla in red, Ahmad Abughaush, tries again

:10:42. > :10:52.for the head shot there, Abughaush, as he pushes Bonilla onto the back

:10:53. > :10:58.foot. He has a real range of movement, spreading onto the attack.

:10:59. > :11:08.Tries the punch, there, as well. He got a point for it. Great point

:11:09. > :11:13.there, Abughaush on the offensive. He snuck in a little punch and a

:11:14. > :11:17.lovely little turning kick as well. Some nice movement. Some good

:11:18. > :11:26.confidence from Abughaush. One point to the good. Talking about

:11:27. > :11:29.confidence, he does, he comes here ready to fight this, he wants to get

:11:30. > :11:35.through to that final, that is for sure. You can feel it when you're in

:11:36. > :11:40.there fighting as well. A good tactic, jumping up the taller

:11:41. > :11:47.fighter. Changing the visual perception of the fighter, to throw

:11:48. > :11:52.them off guard and fire a shot under the guard. He did it with some

:11:53. > :11:55.success earlier. But that was well blocked by the Spaniard. That is the

:11:56. > :12:02.action and reaction you're talking about. Getting them to make a

:12:03. > :12:13.reaction that they don't want to do. They are putting one foot forward

:12:14. > :12:18.that they don't want to put forward. It has been an engaging first round,

:12:19. > :12:26.and a good one, so far. That will make it a lot better for him, a

:12:27. > :12:36.brilliantly point back kick for the man from Jordan, Ahmad Abughaush.

:12:37. > :12:43.Joel Gonzalez Bonilla, the Olympic champion, four points down in the

:12:44. > :12:51.first round. That was right on the button, wasn't it? Accuracy with the

:12:52. > :12:55.spin and did points, puts him four points ahead, a nice position to be

:12:56. > :13:01.in. And that excellent back kick as well. It was brilliant. Look at

:13:02. > :13:07.that. Spinning around, what a big difference it makes. The overhead

:13:08. > :13:15.shot shows you the distance between them, and here is the technique. It

:13:16. > :13:20.just really hit the target. Everything was right about it, and

:13:21. > :13:30.he knew it. A round of applause for himself. Sometimes, is the only one

:13:31. > :13:35.I ever get! He has the pedigree and experience coming into it. Double

:13:36. > :13:41.world champion, Gold Medal in London, he's going for gold here,

:13:42. > :13:49.against Ahmad Abughaush of the Jordan, Joel Gonzalez Bonilla of

:13:50. > :14:00.Spain. This one, six minutes, to decide. How will the tactics change

:14:01. > :14:05.now? It is a difficult one for Bonilla. He loves to counter attack.

:14:06. > :14:10.But when you are four points ahead, you don't need to go forward.

:14:11. > :14:13.However, Ahmad Abughaush is a very aggressive style of fighter, so he

:14:14. > :14:21.does come in. Good Brouge Kick, there. Bonilla needs to change his

:14:22. > :14:26.stance, throw a bit of difference in, a bit of confusion, and get

:14:27. > :14:33.himself onto the scoreboard. Still plenty of time, though. Tries with

:14:34. > :14:40.his own back kick. Very close. He has come here to fight, hasn't he?

:14:41. > :14:45.Ahmad Abughaush has decided that he is just coming forward all the time.

:14:46. > :14:55.And he is accurate, as well. I totally agree. He closes the door.

:14:56. > :15:03.Seven, to the good. Both back kicks scoring. Both taking a tumble.

:15:04. > :15:07.That was fantastic, this is against the Olympic champion, by the way, so

:15:08. > :15:15.it's real quality, this fighting. He's been tremendous all day,

:15:16. > :15:21.defeated the Olympic silver medallist in the previous round. Now

:15:22. > :15:28.going against Bonilla, Olympic champion, in this semifinal. If I

:15:29. > :15:33.was his coach I'd definitely be saying, don't change this, you are

:15:34. > :15:37.totally dominating this mat, don't change your tactics. It'll be

:15:38. > :15:42.interesting to see what happens in the last few minutes. Still 20

:15:43. > :15:50.seconds to go. Don't change it, he's been so successful so far. If its

:15:51. > :15:56.don't broke, don't fix it, and with ten seconds left, Achab has fixed

:15:57. > :16:02.his eyes on the final. If you can keep the pressure on Gonzales

:16:03. > :16:06.Bonilla. Certainly has. The end of an engrossing second round, talk

:16:07. > :16:10.about quality, the high-scoring technique, the value, the timing you

:16:11. > :16:15.have to throw those techniques, perfection from Achab, and it comes

:16:16. > :16:20.from the mind set. It does, very much so, it is the mindset, he came

:16:21. > :16:26.in, ready to fight, ready to take the fight to him. Look at that,

:16:27. > :16:34.right on the button. Almost there with that one. Almost a double kick,

:16:35. > :16:38.fantastic stuff. Exactly right, throws the first back kick, almost

:16:39. > :16:40.gets the second. At the end of the second round you can see the

:16:41. > :16:55.scoreboard flicker in the background.

:16:56. > :17:05.Toledo giving last minute bits of advice to the Spanish champion Joel

:17:06. > :17:14.Gonzalez Bonilla. The semifinal in the men's 68 kilograms grouping.

:17:15. > :17:18.Ahmad Abughaush. Seven to the good. Abughaush very good reactions, takes

:17:19. > :17:24.his time, back kick attempt from Gonzalez, a push kick straightaway

:17:25. > :17:32.from Abughaush. He said, don't change the tactics. He shouldn't.

:17:33. > :17:36.From everything I've seen, it is how matches are won or lost. He needs to

:17:37. > :17:38.do what he has been doing the whole match, dominating and picking up the

:17:39. > :17:49.points, brilliant stuff will Ahmad Abughaush really performing

:17:50. > :17:56.well here. Joel Gonzalez Bonilla has had kick the potential. Defence so

:17:57. > :18:03.far from the man from Jordan is so good. Here's a big push kick and the

:18:04. > :18:10.Spanish rider is away into the Copacabana, slipped down the side,

:18:11. > :18:16.hope he's OK! -- Spanish fighter. It's quite a steep side on the way

:18:17. > :18:20.down. 8-3. It's a long walk home for him, has to come back up the steps,

:18:21. > :18:26.waiting for him at the top, this man. And coming forward. He's the

:18:27. > :18:31.attack now, Gonzales Bonilla. He's got nothing to lose here now, he can

:18:32. > :18:34.feel his Olympic title is just slipping away from him. Coming up to

:18:35. > :18:43.the last minute. Trying to put on the pressure. Back

:18:44. > :18:46.kick attempt from the Spanish fighter, Gonzales Bonilla. 6-point

:18:47. > :19:02.gap. This is certainly where gamesmanship

:19:03. > :19:08.comes in. I've seen that. This man here, he's taken it up to 12 with

:19:09. > :19:13.another three points. He's been attacking all the way through, is

:19:14. > :19:19.the first one I've seen that has kept an attacking, even being ahead.

:19:20. > :19:23.Absolutely correct, but the tactics right, got the timing right, lands

:19:24. > :19:27.another back kick and he's having an absolute party here at the Carioca

:19:28. > :19:32.Arena 2 stops spinning around the head and body of Gonzales Bonilla,

:19:33. > :19:36.who is heading out of this Olympic Games final contention. Ahmad

:19:37. > :19:40.Abughaush, what a performance, take a head shot on the way through, we

:19:41. > :19:47.know the potential is there for Gonzales Bonilla. The Jordanian

:19:48. > :19:49.looks like he has beaten the Spanish fighter. Ahmad Abughaush finishes

:19:50. > :20:05.with a turning kick. And finishes with real style. Great

:20:06. > :20:13.moment. For athlete and coach. Ahmad Abughaush. His into the Olympic

:20:14. > :20:18.Games final, what a terrific performance from start to finish,

:20:19. > :20:21.just perfect. That was absolute brilliance, wasn't it? I'm not sure

:20:22. > :20:28.whether he scored with that spinning headshot at the end, but he didn't

:20:29. > :20:32.need it, it was brilliant, he absolutely took it to Gonzales

:20:33. > :20:35.Bonilla, took it to him from the very beginning, never stopped, he

:20:36. > :20:39.was always coming forward, didn't need to change his tactics. He

:20:40. > :20:45.absolutely didn't change his tactics. That, I think, won him the

:20:46. > :20:48.match. That was the conversation we had, as we see the combination

:20:49. > :20:54.there. Ahmad Abughaush into the Olympic Games final. He got a plan

:20:55. > :20:57.right, dictated the pace. Gonzales Bonilla took a couple of heavy shots

:20:58. > :21:09.to the head. A very good win. Glad you enjoyed the tae kwon do,

:21:10. > :21:15.that final between Denisenko and Abughaush will take place after

:21:16. > :21:24.Jerry Jones's bout. -- Jade Jones. You can see her at 2am on BBC One.

:21:25. > :21:29.If you are a regular watcher of BBC Four, we love to meet the locals. We

:21:30. > :21:33.had Laura and Pablo playing us out last night, hopefully we will finish

:21:34. > :21:42.the evening with more music. I'd like to introduce our latest

:21:43. > :21:48.Brazilian guest. Lovely to have you on, Meandro. He was in London last

:21:49. > :21:52.week. You are watching BBC Four, this is your hometown, Rio, you said

:21:53. > :21:56.you wanted to come down to see what the fuss was about, what have you

:21:57. > :22:01.made of it? I was walking by, I saw you, I was watching you the whole

:22:02. > :22:05.time last week, so I thought it would be fantastic to say hello, I

:22:06. > :22:12.have to say hello to Dan. I asked this gentleman, he said it was fine.

:22:13. > :22:18.It's been very exciting. You actually saw the Brazilian flavour,

:22:19. > :22:24.how it is, Rio, the atmosphere of the happiness of people. Because I

:22:25. > :22:28.think the Brazilians, especially in Cariappa, they have this way of

:22:29. > :22:37.living, this love of life, life is too celebrate. -- especially in

:22:38. > :22:41.Carioca. We saw a bit of that the other night with Maria and her hen

:22:42. > :22:47.party. You dropped the phrase Carioca in. That is residents of

:22:48. > :22:52.Rio. The Carioca are the people who live in Rio. Being back in Brazil,

:22:53. > :22:57.what do you think the impression of most Brazilians is of the Olympic

:22:58. > :22:59.Games? We've chatted with locals and residents, some things they have

:23:00. > :23:05.complained about, other things they think are positive, what is your

:23:06. > :23:12.impression? The impression is it such a good energy, there has been a

:23:13. > :23:18.hard time we've been having in Brazil at the moment. There have

:23:19. > :23:24.been a lot of political problems around. Everybody's has forgotten

:23:25. > :23:28.about the politics, they are having a good time, typical Carioca. Forget

:23:29. > :23:34.about the problem, let's have a good time. Sounds like a good philosophy.

:23:35. > :23:38.We were showing viewers earlier the fourth gold medal for the Brazilians

:23:39. > :23:44.on the sailing around the corner, the other side of Sugarloaf

:23:45. > :23:48.Mountain, the Brazilian pair who won Gold are still celebrating, they got

:23:49. > :23:52.carried in on their boat, had the medal ceremony, ran around the beach

:23:53. > :23:59.with a flag, it seems every home nation needs those moments, with the

:24:00. > :24:06.Rafaela Elfyn judo, Conceicao in boxing, in pole vault, and in

:24:07. > :24:09.sailing. They are crucial for a host nation to get behind the athletes

:24:10. > :24:16.and celebrate those moments. It's been fantastic, everybody has been

:24:17. > :24:23.welcome, all the nations, showing the world we need to be together.

:24:24. > :24:27.It's about being happy and care about each other, love about each

:24:28. > :24:36.other, and celebration. I just feel like it's our time. Brazil is going

:24:37. > :24:49.to continue to celebrate. For now. These are the sailors, Martine Grael

:24:50. > :24:53.and Kahena Kunze. Look at the crowd. I know there have been lots of

:24:54. > :24:57.people asking questions in the UK about why some of the events are not

:24:58. > :25:01.well attended, but what I have learned, I was here for the World

:25:02. > :25:05.Cup for seven weeks, come back for the Olympics, what I have learned

:25:06. > :25:11.about Brazil is football is king, but if there is potential for a win,

:25:12. > :25:16.Brazilians get behind that person who can give them that victory, they

:25:17. > :25:21.are obsessed with winning here. I think Brazilians are very much into

:25:22. > :25:27.being in the game, having a good time, not really worried about who

:25:28. > :25:34.is going to win. If a Brazilian can win, you really get behind them.

:25:35. > :25:37.It's going to be one year carnival and Samba, definitely, lots of

:25:38. > :25:42.carnival and Samba for the Brazil win. Why were you in London, on

:25:43. > :25:49.holiday? I go to London because London is such an inspiration for

:25:50. > :25:54.me, fashion, very cosmopolitan city, I got the flavour. When I'm in

:25:55. > :25:58.London I feel like I know what's going on in the whole world,

:25:59. > :26:04.basically, there's a lot of culture in London. The British give me

:26:05. > :26:08.always very welcome when I come to the UK. You are a hairdresser. Of

:26:09. > :26:12.course I'm a hairdresser, it's the best career in the whole world, to

:26:13. > :26:16.be a hairdresser, we are the happiest people in the whole world.

:26:17. > :26:20.Do Brazilian headdresses do the same thing that hairdressers do in the

:26:21. > :26:26.UK, do you chat about holidays all the time? Where are you going on

:26:27. > :26:33.holiday? No, here we talk about facts of life, actually. LAUGHTER

:26:34. > :26:37.Welcome to Brazil everybody. It's all about sex, party, drinks and

:26:38. > :26:44.downs, if you are into that, come to Rio. -- and dance. What an

:26:45. > :26:49.invitation that is! When I met you the first time you stayed at the

:26:50. > :26:55.back of my head. What recommendation would you have, would you get the

:26:56. > :27:02.scissors out? Scissors out, definitely. What are you saying,

:27:03. > :27:07.it's terrible? It's like this British way of having a haircut,

:27:08. > :27:10.they are never worried about their look, but they do worry about their

:27:11. > :27:18.look. They always pretend they don't care. Very insightful. Tousled, do

:27:19. > :27:22.they have that word? The other thing I have wanted to ask, did you do

:27:23. > :27:26.that thing in Brazil, you know when you hold the mirror to somebody's

:27:27. > :27:30.head and go, are you happy with that? Has anybody said no. You could

:27:31. > :27:39.have done whatever you like, they would never say no, sort it out,

:27:40. > :27:43.it's shambolic. Yeah... Hairdressers, be a hairdresser is

:27:44. > :27:47.about making people happy. It needs to be a very good talker. That's

:27:48. > :27:53.what I have been learning a lot going to London. You guys are

:27:54. > :27:57.very... With the tour, very persuasive people. You know. You say

:27:58. > :28:02.being a hairdresser is about making people happy, you've made us very

:28:03. > :28:07.happy, thank you. While watching the sailing, won said it was about

:28:08. > :28:13.Samba, can you do it down this camera? Give us a bit of Samba. Look

:28:14. > :28:19.at those shorts as well by the way! They are Rascals. You are making my

:28:20. > :28:24.legs look unbelievably white here. Where is the round of applause for

:28:25. > :28:29.Leandro? Yes, whoop and holler. Pleasure to meet you, thank you very

:28:30. > :28:35.much. Pleasure is all mine. Lovely to see you, Leandro, I might come

:28:36. > :28:40.for a haircut at one stage. Before the wedding, maybe. I know I'm under

:28:41. > :28:46.pressure to come back to Maria's wedding but I can't make it, I don't

:28:47. > :28:51.know what I'm saying... Lets watch some badminton. At these games we're

:28:52. > :28:55.talking about the fact Brazil have won four gold medals, some more

:28:56. > :29:02.expected than others. Team GB have had some really amazing success

:29:03. > :29:06.today in triathlon, gold medal for Alistair Brownlee, silver for Johnny

:29:07. > :29:12.Brownlee, some come as more of a surprise, one of them for Team GB in

:29:13. > :29:17.badminton. Its 2004 since we won a badminton medal at any Olympic

:29:18. > :29:23.Games. We watched a lot of markers Chris language. Today they were

:29:24. > :29:28.involved in their bronze medal match. They are having a giggle and

:29:29. > :29:31.doing Samba in the corner! They were involved in a bronze medal match

:29:32. > :29:39.against the Chinese pair, who were high ranked and heavily fancied.

:29:40. > :29:43.We're going to join it in the decider. The winner of this one

:29:44. > :30:01.takes the bronze medal, enjoyed a badminton.

:30:02. > :30:16.Yes, that work to get Chris language to the net. He really is devastating

:30:17. > :30:23.in the frontcourt area. Marcus Ellis is so good with his variation from

:30:24. > :30:30.the back. That is, in my opinion, their favoured formation. But there

:30:31. > :30:31.is no panic, no worry, even if they get pulled out of that favoured

:30:32. > :31:01.formation. We see the tall, Chinese players

:31:02. > :31:02.having to get download to those disguised drop shots. Desperately

:31:03. > :31:54.difficult. -- get down low. All credit to the British players,

:31:55. > :31:58.because normally I think how wonderful the attacking play is from

:31:59. > :32:04.this Chinese pair, but they haven't really been allowed to attack. When

:32:05. > :32:07.they have put the shuttle in a downward direction the defensive

:32:08. > :32:41.player of both these British players has been equal to it.

:32:42. > :32:56.There's lots of shots being played into the body of Biao Chai all, as

:32:57. > :33:02.it was an application, Wei Hong. How do you get your body count of the

:33:03. > :33:13.way with your long levers, to then give yourself the freedom to play a

:33:14. > :33:20.defensive shot? That was a nervous looking shot, for me, from Chai

:33:21. > :34:10.Biao. The Chinese pair, to me, looked like

:34:11. > :34:19.they are running out of ideas of how to break down the defence of the

:34:20. > :34:24.British combination. What a start in this deciding game. If you are a

:34:25. > :35:04.British fan, you will be delighted. Well, you wonder if the Chinese pair

:35:05. > :35:08.are guilty of thinking, well, we have one that second game, and just

:35:09. > :35:14.relaxed a little, and not kept up the intensity. That said, the

:35:15. > :35:28.British pair have barely put a foot wrong in this deciding game, not so

:35:29. > :35:58.far. That was well played by the Chinese pair.

:35:59. > :36:11.The return of serve just guided in a downward direction, look. And he has

:36:12. > :36:16.taken it when it is well below net height, which means that he has two

:36:17. > :36:21.hit it in an upward direction, and he doesn't want to lift it, so he

:36:22. > :36:22.has blocked it back to the net, but Langridge is there, ready and

:36:23. > :36:48.waiting. I said that the British pair, their

:36:49. > :36:53.defensive play had been equal to dealing with the attack from the

:36:54. > :36:59.Chinese combination, and that rally just proving my point. Absolutely

:37:00. > :37:40.magnificent. He has gone to the net at exactly

:37:41. > :37:47.the right moment once again, Chris Langridge, and he makes it count.

:37:48. > :37:54.His partner depends, he moves forward. Wonderful combination play.

:37:55. > :38:33.-- his partner defends. What can the Chinese pair do in

:38:34. > :38:50.response? They haven't found the answer, so far.

:38:51. > :39:35.The server is wide of the centre line. That is a gift. -- the serve.

:39:36. > :39:42.And the British pair have an 8-point advantage as they change ends in

:39:43. > :39:46.this deciding game. You would have thought before the badminton

:39:47. > :39:57.tournament got underway here in Rio, that they would be in this

:39:58. > :40:10.situation, 11-3 up, deciding game, Ellis and Langridge. The body

:40:11. > :40:16.language of the Chinese players would be of concern, if you are a

:40:17. > :40:34.Chinese fan. And what a contrast to the British players.

:40:35. > :40:43.They are just ten points away from a first ever medal in the men's

:40:44. > :40:58.doubles discipline for British badminton.

:40:59. > :41:07.Two medals for mixed doubles for British players in the past. Good

:41:08. > :41:11.flick served. Very good flick serve and a look from Hong Wei to the

:41:12. > :41:39.service judge, but there was no call.

:41:40. > :41:52.Was that desperation? The trick shot like that between the legs, very

:41:53. > :42:13.rarely does it work. Well, both of the British players

:42:14. > :42:19.are playing better, I think, than I've ever seen them play before.

:42:20. > :42:42.That is magnificent, Crouch defence from Marcus Ellis.

:42:43. > :42:53.Just an indication there from Chris Langridge that they've got to keep

:42:54. > :42:58.it calm, and to keep playing the way that they have played to build this

:42:59. > :43:01.lead. As far as the Chinese players are concerned, they have got to

:43:02. > :43:24.focus on getting on the attack. Phenomenal. They deserve a point,

:43:25. > :43:31.they deserve the rally, the British pair, because they are taking the

:43:32. > :43:59.game to their opponents. Initiating the attack.

:44:00. > :44:50.My word, what a good return of serve.

:44:51. > :45:02.A big gulp of air, a big deep breath from Chai Biao. A good serve, good

:45:03. > :45:24.returns, too. 'S gone longer. And another point

:45:25. > :46:03.nearer the dream becoming reality. For the British players.

:46:04. > :46:11.Yeah, he has been superb at the front of the court today, Chris

:46:12. > :46:12.language. Just enough pace on it to tempt Chai Biao into trying to

:46:13. > :46:46.intercept it. If you are a Chinese firm, you'll be

:46:47. > :46:51.recognising unless the Chinese pair have a one-off points now and start

:46:52. > :46:55.closing the gap, but some psychological pressure on the

:46:56. > :46:58.British pair, chances of them coming through this are slim. That has

:46:59. > :47:40.certainly helped their cause. The body language of Chai Biao after

:47:41. > :48:01.that block into the net tells its own story.

:48:02. > :48:09.All of the sudden I think the enormity of what could be achieved

:48:10. > :48:13.has perhaps hit the British pair suddenly. Looking nervous, looking

:48:14. > :48:47.tentative. That will help settle the nerves.

:48:48. > :49:20.Three points away. From April one is medal at the Olympic Games.

:49:21. > :49:59.And unbelievable smash! Ten opportunities to secure the bronze

:50:00. > :50:40.medal. Challenge. It was called out. The

:50:41. > :50:45.British pair have challenged. They are asking for the instant review.

:50:46. > :50:50.And if the line call is overturned, the bronze medal goes to the British

:50:51. > :51:06.pair of Chris language and Marcus Ellis. -- Chris language. It's in, a

:51:07. > :51:11.bronze medal for the British pair. A first ever medal in the men's

:51:12. > :51:23.doubles. For British players. Marcus Ellis overcome with emotion. They

:51:24. > :51:27.were, quite simply, superb today, Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis.

:51:28. > :51:35.Brilliant stuff from Ellis and Langridge, a bronze medal, first

:51:36. > :51:38.badminton medal for Team GB since 2004. They'll get it tomorrow

:51:39. > :51:45.because the gold medal match takes place at 3:15pm. After that, the

:51:46. > :51:48.medal ceremony. A few people asking about the little thing you get with

:51:49. > :51:54.your medal, every time you see a medal ceremony, they get the medal,

:51:55. > :51:56.then what somebody called a sort of squashed banana type thing, it

:51:57. > :52:05.doesn't look like a squashed banana in any way, shape or form. It is to

:52:06. > :52:08.replace the bunch of flowers Olympians normally get, it's a 3-D

:52:09. > :52:12.emblem of the games, it's got green, red and blue on it, the colours

:52:13. > :52:18.which were voted for, which Brazilians apparently said

:52:19. > :52:22.represented happiness. It is all it is, a 3-D emblem of the game, most

:52:23. > :52:27.people asking what it is and why it's there. It's to do with the

:52:28. > :52:30.renewable nature of the games, that is the bomb that goes with it, they

:52:31. > :52:39.didn't want to give away flowers, but a memento that says was ill. --

:52:40. > :52:42.says Brazil. It's the first time there has been a 3-D emblem for an

:52:43. > :52:47.Olympic Games, amaze your friends with that statistic. Later we've got

:52:48. > :52:54.live basketball on the way between USA and France, women's basketball.

:52:55. > :52:58.In five minutes. Earlier we were showing you the hockey, Argentina

:52:59. > :53:03.playing hockey in the men's gold medal match. We left when it was 3-1

:53:04. > :53:13.to Argentina, we'll show you the best action from the second half.

:53:14. > :53:22.Really strong step and tackle in the circle. What a goal, what an

:53:23. > :53:28.incredible piece of individual skill. We saw him in the first half

:53:29. > :53:34.tee it up and slash it into the side netting. That is one of the

:53:35. > :53:41.outstanding bits of brilliance in this game so far. Looks up, tucks it

:53:42. > :53:45.inside, into the air, one touch over, feet around, short handgrip,

:53:46. > :53:49.doesn't have time for a long swing, look at the foot rotation. Round,

:53:50. > :54:15.bang, Pastor Vivaldi. -- passed it wide-open goal here. And there it

:54:16. > :54:20.is. Down. 4-2. It was Augustin Mazzilli who had the simplest of

:54:21. > :54:25.opportunities presented to him by the Belgian goalkeeper.

:54:26. > :54:31.Amazing stuff from Argentina, they managed to see off the defending

:54:32. > :54:36.champions, Germany, in the semifinal. 4- to the final score.

:54:37. > :54:42.Their fans were celebrating during the game, players celebrating after

:54:43. > :54:45.the game. They were ranked seventh in the world coming into these

:54:46. > :54:48.Olympic Games and have surpassed their previous best Olympic

:54:49. > :54:56.performance, fifth place in the London games of 1948.

:54:57. > :55:03.Congratulations to Argentina. A well-deserved gold medal in the

:55:04. > :55:08.men's event. Team GB never really clicked into gear. Struggled in the

:55:09. > :55:11.early stages of the pools. The women are involved in the gold medal

:55:12. > :55:15.match, taking on the top-ranked Netherlands side, which will be

:55:16. > :55:24.available for you tomorrow evening on BBC One. Thank you to all of you

:55:25. > :55:26.who have set messages about Leandro, I'm disappointed when he was on I

:55:27. > :55:43.didn't think of a phrase. What's going on

:55:44. > :55:47.on the beach behind me, it's not that, it's just a hug. They are

:55:48. > :55:53.reading a book, apparently they are reading the book. They are reading a

:55:54. > :55:58.book in a strange pose. It's merely a book, we'll find out what the book

:55:59. > :56:03.is, maybe, later on. Not going to go any closer than that. Live

:56:04. > :56:08.basketball for you. USA taking on France. We talked about the dream

:56:09. > :56:11.team and the fact the men's USA side are overwhelming favourites to win

:56:12. > :56:16.the gold at these games. It's the women's team from USA who have a

:56:17. > :56:20.better record, the last six times they have won Olympic gold. They

:56:21. > :56:31.take on France. Commentary on this one comes from Mike Carlson and

:56:32. > :56:47.Victor Sabral. You see the little French basketball

:56:48. > :56:52.Federation penance that will be handed to the US players at

:56:53. > :56:55.mid-court, the US players giving baseball caps with USA basketball on

:56:56. > :57:00.them, this is traditional in international basketball. They have

:57:01. > :57:04.to drop them with the equipment manager. They are here to play

:57:05. > :57:10.basketball, these gifts are another bonus. France will have their work

:57:11. > :57:23.cut out and they know it, there is the French line-up. One of the keys

:57:24. > :57:30.for them will be Gruda and Yacoubou inside. The US backed court is

:57:31. > :57:38.basically bigger than them but probably just as fast. She's got a

:57:39. > :57:42.really tough battle to face the US team, how do you approach the game

:57:43. > :57:45.tactically? It's so important because in the end you realise

:57:46. > :57:49.individually they are playing at the much higher level so tactically you

:57:50. > :57:53.have to be perfect and execute as well. Can this French team do that?

:57:54. > :58:04.They are capable, they are a fantastic side. There is the US

:58:05. > :58:09.side. You've got tall women. Very quick players, who can play guard

:58:10. > :58:17.and forward. And he has a very great point guard in Sue Bird, one of two

:58:18. > :58:22.players on this US team, of three, sorry, going for their fourth

:58:23. > :58:25.consecutive gold medal. Weapons from everywhere, you pressure them

:58:26. > :58:31.outside, they go inside. Pressure inside, they go outside. They

:58:32. > :58:37.average 53 points from the bench, compared to France, 27 points. They

:58:38. > :58:41.are very good side, almost an unstoppable force, but not quite,

:58:42. > :58:45.that is why the French have at least some hope. There is a reason for the

:58:46. > :58:53.high scoring, they have won games by such a margin. The loss to Australia

:58:54. > :58:59.as close, not as close as they would have liked it to be, but they went

:59:00. > :59:04.to qualify. The US haven't have a gross game. Canada by 30 is the best

:59:05. > :59:10.anyone has been able to do, Serbia by 26 put up a bit of a fight. For

:59:11. > :59:13.France, the challenge is going to be whether they try to control the

:59:14. > :59:29.ball, control the pace, which they did in the Olympic final. But they

:59:30. > :59:32.don't have Celine to do that. The US starting line-up, Augustus moves

:59:33. > :59:37.into the starting line-up for Sue Bird, Sue Bird got hurt in the last

:59:38. > :59:41.game and sat out almost three quarters of the game, so they are

:59:42. > :59:46.resting hair. Interesting that Augustus, and not Lindsay Whelan,

:59:47. > :59:52.becomes the starting point guard. Augustus is listed as a forward at

:59:53. > :00:03.six feet tall. Pascual from the Philippines is the referee. The

:00:04. > :00:08.United States guard, Sue Bird, had an MRI scan after the game, they are

:00:09. > :00:13.monitoring from game to game. Interesting they have gone with

:00:14. > :00:17.Augustus, a taller player. That is where the United States have a big

:00:18. > :00:20.advantage, if they can get offensive rebound second or third chances, you

:00:21. > :00:30.can put the French under massive pressure. The US has plenty of tall

:00:31. > :00:35.options. They could put all four out at the same time with either one

:00:36. > :00:39.centre or one point guard, it would make no difference. When you've got

:00:40. > :00:45.that kind of speed and size together, it's hard to stop. Griner

:00:46. > :00:46.the centre. Tina Charles still playing with her protective nose

:00:47. > :01:08.guard. The ageless Sue Bird at point guard,

:01:09. > :01:15.at the age of 35. France in the white, USA in the red. Tina Charles

:01:16. > :01:29.picks it up for the United States. And that is Seimone Augustus.

:01:30. > :01:35.Charles goes round Yakubu. And there is Olivia Epoupa, she's going to be

:01:36. > :01:39.so crucial to France in this match. I don't think there are going to be

:01:40. > :01:49.many lanes opening up for her against the United States. Those are

:01:50. > :01:52.the kind of mistakes you can not afford to make against the US. You

:01:53. > :02:01.don't want to give them extra shots, extra charges at the basket.

:02:02. > :02:08.Charles, with her second shot. Maya Moore drives the baseline. Trying to

:02:09. > :02:11.hit the bottom of the backboard. Already we see the height difference

:02:12. > :02:17.and the French getting nowhere near the offensive rebound. The United

:02:18. > :02:29.States eventually get the ball to go down. Another good pass from

:02:30. > :02:34.Yacoubou, connecting Ayayi. And Ayayi, called with the foul. You saw

:02:35. > :02:39.Maya Moore on the baseline, normally with someone bigger you try to foul

:02:40. > :02:44.them and play close, but you know that if you try that with Maya

:02:45. > :02:52.Moore, she's going to go round it. We saw Yacoubou getting up in the

:02:53. > :02:55.face of Brittney Griner. You have to give Yacoubou a lot of credit for

:02:56. > :03:05.that. She cut of the passing lane and gave Brittney Griner nowhere to

:03:06. > :03:09.go on the baseline. Griner and Charles Way up top. And fadeaway

:03:10. > :03:32.Mrs. The US hold from the floor. Epoupa is a fantastic player. She

:03:33. > :03:39.had to take a fall away, Brittney Griner. She gets the rebound and

:03:40. > :03:42.then draws the foul. Yacoubou has come to play. This is the best

:03:43. > :03:48.couple of minutes I've seen from our Andy Dorman. France need her to

:03:49. > :03:52.dominate in that area. She's doing really well against Brittney Griner

:03:53. > :03:57.so far at both ends of the court. She's not a great shooter, even",

:03:58. > :04:05.but she will draw the foul, and now she has two. And she makes a person.

:04:06. > :04:16.68% from the foul line, not the best record, but certainly not a bad one.

:04:17. > :04:22.Makes the second. Only four points scored in the first two minutes.

:04:23. > :04:29.This is encouraging for brands. The lower scoring the game is the better

:04:30. > :04:33.the chances are, for France. Yacoubou knocks the ball away. She

:04:34. > :04:41.is playing out of her skin right now. It was out of bounds, but look

:04:42. > :04:49.how she celebrated. The US have ten seconds on the shot blocked.

:04:50. > :05:00.Augustus to Maya Moore, who tries to give it to Brittney Griner. Epoupa

:05:01. > :05:04.comes down quickly now. They needed to be on song and that was brilliant

:05:05. > :05:19.play, finished off with the jump shot, Diana Taurasi 43-0. Ayayi hit

:05:20. > :05:28.the rebound from the mess from Diana Taurasi. It was a foul inside. Was

:05:29. > :05:32.it on Yacoubou? We saw Japan making a great start against the US, but it

:05:33. > :05:36.is whether you can keep the consistency going, and if they can

:05:37. > :05:44.they can keep this going and give themselves a real shot. And there is

:05:45. > :05:56.the basket by Ayayi. The foul was on Diana Taurasi before. A four point

:05:57. > :06:02.lead for France, that is great encouragement. Diana Taurasi is. I

:06:03. > :06:15.don't think that the US has been four down in this tournament. Nice

:06:16. > :06:28.move by Ayayi on Maya Moore. Didn't get that quite right. Augustus hits

:06:29. > :06:32.for six. That is what the US do, as soon as they get into a rhythm they

:06:33. > :06:41.knock down the jump shots, and you cannot give them any time at all.

:06:42. > :06:53.Ayayi, Yacoubou for three, she's doing everything for France, that

:06:54. > :06:57.she can. That is the first three-pointer she's hit in the

:06:58. > :07:10.Olympic Games, and what a moment to do it. Charles, crosscourt to Maya

:07:11. > :07:13.Moore. And the shot from Griner goes into the basket and finds its way

:07:14. > :07:35.back out. Both players were clapping. From the

:07:36. > :07:44.foul. The offensive foul called was on Ayayi. She was trying to fight

:07:45. > :07:51.through Seimone Augustus, basically. Epoupa trying to figure this one

:07:52. > :08:00.out. And we have Ayayi coming out for France, having picked up two

:08:01. > :08:09.fouls. Sarah Michelle is one of the better 3-point shooters in this

:08:10. > :08:22.team. Augustus with a real fadeaway. There's Sue Bird. I don't think that

:08:23. > :08:26.Sue Bird will be featuring tonight. Epoupa just got back, and there's

:08:27. > :08:38.going to be a foul on Epoupa, folding. She did take an arm. I

:08:39. > :08:41.don't think it was intentional. It looked inadvertent. But it came

:08:42. > :08:47.right across her, and then she was hanging on for dear life. 9-8,

:08:48. > :08:54.halfway through the 1st quarter, France in the lead. Knock away by

:08:55. > :08:59.Brittney Griner whose trash talking to one of the French players right

:09:00. > :09:02.now. I don't think the US have the same intensity that France do at

:09:03. > :09:14.this point, but of course, a long way to go. Maya Moore hits. They may

:09:15. > :09:19.be missing Sue Bird a little bit. I think that he thought he was going

:09:20. > :09:26.to get some pressure, but when they had to play static it has not been

:09:27. > :09:40.as good. Maya Moore gets a hand on the ball. And the foul was on Michel

:09:41. > :09:44.on the backcourt. You would think that Lindsay Whalen would replace

:09:45. > :09:48.her, but she was a great shooter. When you have got players like that

:09:49. > :09:53.in your team and you are knocking down shots from every position...

:09:54. > :10:04.Lindsay Whalen is a model from the bricklayer. -- is a more deliberate

:10:05. > :10:08.player. She's in with Augustus and with Diana Taurasi. They are going

:10:09. > :10:15.with the slightly smaller and quicker line-up now. And when Maya

:10:16. > :10:18.Moore finds arrange it this trouble. Against Japan she didn't get it

:10:19. > :10:32.until the second half, and once she did, that was lights out. They have

:10:33. > :10:44.to start executing. That pass was from Leticia Kamber. France need a

:10:45. > :10:58.big contribution from the bench. The number five was a starter, end mem.

:10:59. > :11:21.Yacoubou, when she was young and growing up in Benin help the

:11:22. > :11:22.national shot put record. She cant run the hole court for four

:11:23. > :11:38.quarters. She has been averaging 15 minutes

:11:39. > :11:40.per game, compared to the other starters at over 20. That shows how

:11:41. > :12:02.much she needs to be rested. She doesn't have the explosive

:12:03. > :12:11.quickness of Epoupa. Amel Bouderra having to shoot. And Maya Moore

:12:12. > :12:22.brings it down, over two Diana Taurasi. It misses and the rebound

:12:23. > :12:27.comes to Kamba. Up to the 3-point line, and holds it for Amel

:12:28. > :12:36.Bouderra. Nice, good penetration, when it came to her, she got the

:12:37. > :12:53.basket. 14-11 now, the US up by three. Amel Bouderra brings it back

:12:54. > :13:02.for France. It is 14-13. Six points for her now. Just a little look of

:13:03. > :13:10.concern, there. It looked more like a look of disbelief, to be honest.

:13:11. > :13:19.France has gone with the United States, basketball basket. And can

:13:20. > :13:24.Michel out one Maya Moore? Michel will draw the foul in the backcourt.

:13:25. > :13:29.You see what she did. She took the extra step in to let Maya Moore go

:13:30. > :13:35.by. And she lost concentration on the shot. She did everything

:13:36. > :13:39.perfectly until that last point. That is what is crucial in this

:13:40. > :13:46.game. When you play against the United States, it does have to be

:13:47. > :13:52.perfect. Here is Maya Moore at the foul line, shooting the penalty. Now

:13:53. > :14:00.Lindsay Whalen has come in at the point for Augustus. Maya Moore makes

:14:01. > :14:05.them both, she has six points. It'll be interesting to see how the US

:14:06. > :14:18.operates now with Lindsay Whalen on court.

:14:19. > :14:29.Elena Delle Donne and Maya Moore playing the wing now with the force.

:14:30. > :14:34.Nice move by Michel. Angel McCoughtry was there, so quick to

:14:35. > :14:46.recover and get back in front. That pass goes wild. And Angel McCoughtry

:14:47. > :14:53.Mrs, and it is not out of her hands. -- knocked. At this point the

:14:54. > :14:57.rebound is up almost the same. It is 10-8. That will be encouraging for

:14:58. > :14:58.France, with because you would expect the United States to be

:14:59. > :15:12.completely dominant. camber catching is replaces more for

:15:13. > :15:20.the US. Just missed getting the ball away from Delle Donne. Ciak has just

:15:21. > :15:32.come in, the tallest of the French at six foot six, one metre 97.

:15:33. > :15:36.Michel decides to drive. A 1-point game with just over a minute to play

:15:37. > :15:41.in the first quarter. Great stuff from France to be shooting baskets,

:15:42. > :15:48.getting them to drop, so important. Keep in touch with the United States

:15:49. > :15:56.here, encouraging for them. Whalen gets the high screen, comes around

:15:57. > :16:09.it and drives. Of the glass, nice rebound by Fowles. 18-15. Bouderra

:16:10. > :16:18.brings it up for France. Kamba, Michel, now gives it to Bouderra.

:16:19. > :16:25.Seven on the shot clock. Ciak accepts the high screen. A 3-pointer

:16:26. > :16:32.by Miyem that goes off. Fowles gets the rebound, and is fouled by Kamba

:16:33. > :16:35.underneath. You could be isn't out there, but France still looking

:16:36. > :16:40.good, even though the United States are starting to get these offensive

:16:41. > :16:43.rebound is to get a second chance. If I were a coach Barnier what I

:16:44. > :16:47.would have said to Yacoubou before the game is, I'm starting you and

:16:48. > :16:52.want you to play as hard as you can as long as you can, we'll rescue but

:16:53. > :16:53.give it everything you've got, don't save yourself, it's exactly what she

:16:54. > :17:02.did. -- coach Gani air. I think they've been surprised, I

:17:03. > :17:09.don't think they were expecting this from France. It could still go to

:17:10. > :17:15.another level with the United States. Can France maintain this

:17:16. > :17:22.level they've started with? They have to keep hitting the jump shots,

:17:23. > :17:25.that's always been the problem. It's 19-15, France will have time to set

:17:26. > :17:34.up for the last shot with eight on the shot clock. Bouderra goes in.

:17:35. > :17:36.Nearly loses the ball. Get it inside to Ciak, who is fouled by Delle

:17:37. > :17:50.Donne. It won't be a shooting foul. This becomes strategically a very

:17:51. > :17:56.good foul because they've got half a second, which is time for almost

:17:57. > :18:02.nothing. And that was nothing. It is almost nothing. The clock didn't

:18:03. > :18:08.actually run down. Nobody touched the ball. It should be 0.6. They

:18:09. > :18:17.might have to sort that out. The referee going to fix that. Here we

:18:18. > :18:27.go, 0.6 again. Well spotted. The US with six tenths of a second to try

:18:28. > :18:31.and catch and shoot. It was McCoughtry who caught. She had more

:18:32. > :18:38.time. That ends the first quarter with the score US 19-15 France.

:18:39. > :18:43.Thanks for that for the moment, we'll be back for the second

:18:44. > :18:48.quarter. Expectations before were that USA might run away with it, but

:18:49. > :18:52.France playing well and keeping things tighter than we might have

:18:53. > :18:58.expected. We're going to pop back shortly. We will discuss... Look

:18:59. > :19:01.back on the entire regatta of the sailing with Shirley Robinson at

:19:02. > :19:05.half-time in the basketball match. Right now, the day 13 headlines from

:19:06. > :19:15.Rio de Janeiro. Earlier today there was gold and

:19:16. > :19:23.silver for the Brownlee Brothers in triathlon on Kell Brook and their

:19:24. > :19:31.beach. -- on Copacabana beach. They had a nice brotherly hug. Sailing

:19:32. > :19:39.gold for Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark as they confirmed their top

:19:40. > :19:46.gold in the women's. Silver four years ago, gold this time. Surely

:19:47. > :19:52.described it earlier, amazing finish to the 49 Fx category, Brazil, the

:19:53. > :19:59.top-ranked pair, took gold were carried to the beach by their

:20:00. > :20:08.friends and fans. Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze with their fourth gold

:20:09. > :20:13.for Brazil. Silver in the canoe sprint. Liam Hughes and John

:20:14. > :20:17.Scofield had the silver medal snatched away four years ago, this

:20:18. > :20:24.time the other way around, so take between second and fifth, they

:20:25. > :20:30.finished second and wins over. Bronze in badminton, first medal

:20:31. > :20:33.since 2004 in Badminton for Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge. Beating

:20:34. > :20:44.the fifth-seeded Chinese pair. Nicola Adams safely into the gold

:20:45. > :20:48.medal match in boxing. Can she repeat what she did four years ago

:20:49. > :20:55.and be crowned double Olympic champion?

:20:56. > :21:03.Jade Jones in a similar position, she's in the final of the category

:21:04. > :21:15.she won four years in London. Her final at 2am UK time, it'll be an

:21:16. > :21:20.BBC One. -- it will be on. We've had some Copacabana bin man news. We

:21:21. > :21:24.might do it before we speak to Shirley. We can't give you it all

:21:25. > :21:34.the time because we have basketball to get back for.

:21:35. > :21:44.Delle Donne misses, but the rebound follows... Bouderra gathers it in

:21:45. > :21:46.and comes back for France. The French realise how important

:21:47. > :21:52.rebounding is, desperately trying to get to everyone. Pretty much like

:21:53. > :22:02.the US they have a lot of athletic wing players. Michel trying to make

:22:03. > :22:06.space for herself, drives, gets through. She knew what you wanted to

:22:07. > :22:17.do, setting up that very shot. So quick in the movement. McCoughtry

:22:18. > :22:21.gets the inside step, it's 21-17. France have to go really hard for

:22:22. > :22:25.each basket. The US go down the other end and get it almost

:22:26. > :22:30.effortlessly. The big centre goes inside and get the ball, she's got

:22:31. > :22:35.one-on-one, misses the hook. A step slope towards the rebound. She went

:22:36. > :22:45.in the right direction, but a step slow to pick it up. Whalen,

:22:46. > :22:52.McCoughtry, Delle Donne. Inside, should be fouled, but the shop

:22:53. > :22:56.doesn't fall. That was a series of four people, each of whom thought

:22:57. > :23:01.about the shot, but decided to pass it on for the better one. That's

:23:02. > :23:06.right if you have that kind of mentality you will find open play

:23:07. > :23:09.with an easy shot, that's how easy it is for McCoughtry, that's the

:23:10. > :23:13.trouble playing the United States, they can go down the other end and

:23:14. > :23:18.effortlessly score. See how simple it was, there wasn't a fake

:23:19. > :23:21.involved, she looked to the left, got Kamba looking to the right, then

:23:22. > :23:30.went around Kamba when she was looking the other way.

:23:31. > :23:39.80% from the foul line, Delle Donne. Pretty strong from the foul line,

:23:40. > :23:43.the United States. Everybody in the lane. The ball hasn't even been shot

:23:44. > :23:51.and they are in the lane. At least the referee let it go, there is no

:23:52. > :23:56.rebound there. Two minutes gone in the second quarter. US leading by

:23:57. > :24:04.six. Into the game is the young Marine Johannes, did so well in the

:24:05. > :24:13.quarterfinal, only 21. Good pass, good look. Ciak cut through. And a

:24:14. > :24:22.bounce pass, right where Bouderra could handle it. 23-19.

:24:23. > :24:32.Delle Donne going hard to the basket. Griner. But in the soft

:24:33. > :24:36.shot. That's what France don't want United States to get a lot of

:24:37. > :24:45.offensive rebound and second looks at the basket. To be honest, Taurasi

:24:46. > :24:48.had a hand on Ciak, Ciak was going down the lane, not a good idea by

:24:49. > :24:56.Bouderra. Taurasi got away with that one.

:24:57. > :25:03.Coach Garnier was just saying, Taurasi had a hand in there. The

:25:04. > :25:12.shop doesn't go, McCoughtry with the rebound. Before the game what we

:25:13. > :25:15.thought is now starting to eventuate, the United States

:25:16. > :25:29.starting to dominate the boards, dominating the scoreboard right now.

:25:30. > :25:39.Kamba from the outside. Taurasi brings it up. No second shot. A wild

:25:40. > :25:49.shot. The ball comes back to her from Griner. She stepped on the end

:25:50. > :25:52.line. It goes over to France. They are going to leave Ciak out there?

:25:53. > :25:58.You Google congratulating players coming off. Jahan is coming off.

:25:59. > :26:05.France took a time-out, they are down by eight, probably a good time

:26:06. > :26:10.up to take because coach Garnier will want to emphasise the

:26:11. > :26:24.importance of the boards. You can see Ciak standing on the

:26:25. > :26:31.outside which may mean she'll get a breather. We've got to get some

:26:32. > :26:39.really good involvement down there, that leads to ball screens. We move

:26:40. > :26:43.the ball side to side... That's pretty self-explanatory from Gino,

:26:44. > :26:47.he once less one-on-one, he wants screens, people coming out, setting

:26:48. > :26:52.a screen for whoever has the ball, like right there, which opened

:26:53. > :26:56.things up, because Kamba has to look what's happening with the screen one

:26:57. > :27:03.side, giving McCoughtry the path on the other side. They dominate the

:27:04. > :27:07.individual battles. If they can start getting that going, it could

:27:08. > :27:11.be really troublesome for France. France are still in this, eight

:27:12. > :27:17.points, it's not too bad. They have only been outshot 8-4 in the second

:27:18. > :27:25.quarter. Bouderra brings it up for France. Jahan is still on the court

:27:26. > :27:33.and you Google back in. Johannes's pass was loose. World couldn't get

:27:34. > :27:41.to it. Inside you Google. She misses! She has to shoot it over

:27:42. > :27:47.Griner, but she was alone, hit the layup too hard. 27-19, you can't

:27:48. > :27:50.afford to do that against the US. Kamba gets the rebound off that

:27:51. > :27:56.three, that was one of those coughing Naylors. If I hit that

:27:57. > :28:01.it'll take the wind out of French sales, but she missed it. Janus,

:28:02. > :28:08.three for Jahan as! I think it was two. It was two, sorry, I get

:28:09. > :28:11.excited. Still an amazing shot, brilliant stuff from Jahan is. She

:28:12. > :28:17.did it in a couple of the other games, came off the bench and she is

:28:18. > :28:21.a shooter. McCoughtry in there again, McCoughtry gets the basket

:28:22. > :28:25.and the foul. That is the difficulty for France, they get a good shot

:28:26. > :28:31.United States go down the other end. Griner, carrying the ball to the

:28:32. > :28:35.offensive rebound. And the foul. She took a hard fall on her back. You

:28:36. > :28:41.see the athleticism of her, side-by-side with I think it was

:28:42. > :28:46.Kamba under the boards. She's moving before Kamba has reacted to the ball

:28:47. > :28:51.coming off the rim. A great shot by Jahan is. It deserved to be three. I

:28:52. > :28:59.like her a lot, she's going to have a great future. Only 21 years old.

:29:00. > :29:06.McCoughtry at the line for the United States. Complete the 3-point

:29:07. > :29:13.play. 30-21 approaching the halfway mark of the second quarter. You

:29:14. > :29:17.could book back in at point guard. Bouderra did a great job of passing

:29:18. > :29:23.to her. Once Jahan is to come to the other side. Janus gets a great

:29:24. > :29:29.screen from you Google. Gets fouled. -- Janus. From you cuckoo.

:29:30. > :29:36.We even talked about this when the Japanese played the US. Teams often

:29:37. > :29:39.lose the aggression against the American team, they become

:29:40. > :29:44.ineffective, intimidated. You have to take it to them. You have to try

:29:45. > :29:47.and force mistakes from them. You have to be consistent about them,

:29:48. > :29:52.can't let up. It's great to see France keeping it up. Jahan is that

:29:53. > :29:57.the line. Haven't had many turnovers. -- Johannes at the line.

:29:58. > :30:11.Haven't had many steels. She misses the second foul shot.

:30:12. > :30:16.30-22. Augustus is back in, she's got the ball, she's driving the

:30:17. > :30:19.lane, throws up, I wouldn't call it a floater, an easy one had a jot,

:30:20. > :30:37.32-22, the US by ten. Great pass from Johannes. Two

:30:38. > :30:43.offenders down now. When she turned around, she was wide open. 32-24.

:30:44. > :30:50.Augustus throws it almost away, and Maya Moore makes the save. Ayayi

:30:51. > :31:00.anticipates a pass and gives it to Johannes. Good passing. Johannes

:31:01. > :31:08.goes back for the three and hits. I told you! Johannes has six.

:31:09. > :31:12.Brilliant stuff from France. This is what they have got to keep on doing,

:31:13. > :31:16.just keep at it. Just keep doing this and you are going to be in it

:31:17. > :31:27.towards the end. Great stuff from the French. Just under four minutes

:31:28. > :31:33.to play in the quarter. They can do well mentally, the French. They are

:31:34. > :31:40.not being deterred by the US, they are just keeping doing what they are

:31:41. > :31:44.doing. McCoughtry, with the rebound. All of the Americans have gone up

:31:45. > :31:54.court. Brings Maya Moore back to take it. Taurasi. Taurasi drives.

:31:55. > :32:02.She got double little spring, that was all she needed. Just over three

:32:03. > :32:06.minutes to play. Epoupa comes back. France, down by nine. Johanne is,

:32:07. > :32:16.she can't do it all by herself, she has realise that. McCoughtry, so

:32:17. > :32:20.quick. She pops it to Maya Moore. Augustus, through the legs,

:32:21. > :32:27.backwards, not a great shot, didn't get a great look at the basket. The

:32:28. > :32:30.referee didn't give it, they gave the foul Bird, which was a shame,

:32:31. > :32:40.because Johannes was in position for the rebound. Epoupa drew the foul.

:32:41. > :32:44.If it is going to be to the offensive team's advantage, you have

:32:45. > :32:54.got to let it play. It is pretty hard to stop Taurasi in those

:32:55. > :33:01.conditions. There is Angel McCoughtry. And Olivia Epoupa. I

:33:02. > :33:07.think that is the first time we have seen her run at the United States,

:33:08. > :33:17.and when she is in full flight, she is brilliant to watch. 1.64 metres.

:33:18. > :33:26.The smallest woman on the floor. Whalen brings it up for the US. They

:33:27. > :33:35.are up by seven. There is the screen being set. Augustus is up top.

:33:36. > :33:47.Another screen. And there is a good dish. One extra pass and it gives

:33:48. > :33:55.the easy shot to Sylvia fouls. -- fouls.

:33:56. > :34:07.In the corner. The good shot, and the rebound, another shot by Kamba.

:34:08. > :34:15.There is the French men's coaching team in the middle. 38-31. Look at

:34:16. > :34:22.them nodding. They are seeing some good stuff from this woman's team. A

:34:23. > :34:28.bit of a tangle there. That would go against the defence, I believe. Just

:34:29. > :34:39.accidental, both players running for position. If it were me, I would

:34:40. > :34:42.give it against Augustus. The shooting has been impressive from

:34:43. > :34:46.France. They have missed a few attempts. But shooting 41% from the

:34:47. > :34:59.field, so not bad. They gave the foul against Ayayi. I

:35:00. > :35:13.am surprised. She has to go to the bench because that is her third.

:35:14. > :35:22.Epoupa for three. And it drops to Taurasi. Epoupa all over Taurasi.

:35:23. > :35:37.Tina Charles had set the little big for her there. -- a little pick.

:35:38. > :35:44.40-31, Tina Charles. Sometimes you think, how do you stop that from the

:35:45. > :35:53.US? There is just no way. Kamba. Good idea. Look at Epoupa, she falls

:35:54. > :36:01.down and keeps her shoe. She lost her shoe, and still going. And

:36:02. > :36:06.Johannes with the rainbow three. It is 40-34. Epoupa gets her shoe back.

:36:07. > :36:14.Still looking for it, I think. Extraordinary stuff. Watch this, the

:36:15. > :36:19.issue goes, she slides on the sock and keeps the dribble, no problem,

:36:20. > :36:24.then gives it to Johannes, and Johannes things, I might as well

:36:25. > :36:31.shoot. Charles kicked the issue away. But that was brilliant stuff

:36:32. > :36:36.from Epoupa. She doesn't need the shoe to play, it just helps her not

:36:37. > :36:42.to slip over. That was a Copacabana Beach in downtown three from

:36:43. > :36:54.Johannes. It is 40-34. 40 seconds to play in this post are. Taurasi with

:36:55. > :37:02.the 3-point shooting has not got into gear yet, but there's still

:37:03. > :37:08.plenty of time in this one. Johannes has scored nine points in this

:37:09. > :37:14.quarter, coming off the bench. Look at the confidence, taking on Whalen.

:37:15. > :37:20.And Amant underneath puts it in, it is a 4-point game and that brings

:37:21. > :37:28.the first half to a close, and France are within four, and look at

:37:29. > :37:35.the bench! We could be on for a shock. At half-time in that

:37:36. > :37:41.semifinal, the French within four points of the seemingly unbeatable

:37:42. > :37:45.team USA. We will be back for that the second half to pick up that

:37:46. > :37:51.basketball for you. Delighted to say that in the BBC Four kiosk of

:37:52. > :37:58.dreams, we have joined by Shirley Robertson. We normally talk to you

:37:59. > :38:05.on a boat in the marina to Gloria. It must be nice to be on solid

:38:06. > :38:10.ground. It is very nice to be here. You have got quite the spot. The

:38:11. > :38:16.regatta is now finished, the sailing finished. Overall, we had Giles

:38:17. > :38:22.Scott winning gold, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark, Nick Dempsey with his

:38:23. > :38:25.silver in the windsurfing. How do you think the sailing organisation

:38:26. > :38:33.will look back on these games? Has it been a success? Team GB RA top

:38:34. > :38:37.sailing nation. In previous Olympics we have won more medals, but we had

:38:38. > :38:43.seven courses here, massive mountains in the middle of it, loads

:38:44. > :38:47.of current. So many. So many things you could not control. On reflection

:38:48. > :38:55.they will be happy to walk away, top nation. Coming here, I have heard

:38:56. > :38:58.you many times on TV and radio, talk about the dangers of the course,

:38:59. > :39:06.pollution was a big concern beforehand. And we heard Bryony Shaw

:39:07. > :39:10.talk about that in the regatta. Has that been as much of a fear as

:39:11. > :39:15.people thought it would be? We have been very lucky at this Olympics. It

:39:16. > :39:23.didn't properly reign. The risk was, if it rained and it wasn't outgoing

:39:24. > :39:27.tide, then everything in the Bay goes through that little opening. It

:39:28. > :39:33.is awash with everything from fridges to dead dogs to wardrobes.

:39:34. > :39:43.Everything comes out into the day. A few bits of plastic. But not as many

:39:44. > :39:49.as feared. You would not go swimming in Guanabara Bay, but on the whole,

:39:50. > :39:52.they had a lucky escape. The Brazilians were diving in after

:39:53. > :39:58.their gold medal. We will get to that later on. I spoke to the locals

:39:59. > :40:03.and they said 70% of the raw sewage from Rio goes into where the sailing

:40:04. > :40:07.takes place. You can understand why there were those concerns about what

:40:08. > :40:12.could happen but thankfully the wind and weather have protected us from

:40:13. > :40:18.the worst of that. And in our small sailing team, it was the editor who

:40:19. > :40:27.got sick, and she never leaves the Portakabin. Must have been a dodgy

:40:28. > :40:31.burger. They really look after their guts, the team. They were careful,

:40:32. > :40:34.they disinfected themselves and their boats. They did not have a

:40:35. > :40:39.drinks bottle on board. They just didn't take any risks. And

:40:40. > :40:45.thankfully that certainly worked for Team GB. When you're preparing for a

:40:46. > :40:49.course like that, how much of the Team GB sailors would have been here

:40:50. > :40:58.to have a look at it before sailing it? Most of them will hear about 150

:40:59. > :41:03.days. Rio is great but it is a hard place to live. That is a lot of

:41:04. > :41:08.time. But sailing is not a linear course. You are constantly making

:41:09. > :41:13.decisions, should I go this way or that, when should I go this way

:41:14. > :41:17.back? You make decisions based on previous knowledge of what you think

:41:18. > :41:22.has happened before or just looking at your environment. It didn't

:41:23. > :41:27.really work like that here. Team GB spent lots of resources trying to

:41:28. > :41:34.get some sort of formula. Even the Brazilians didn't always know. You

:41:35. > :41:36.had to have a cool head and a bit of flair and a bit of understanding

:41:37. > :41:43.about the complexity of what actually went on. We saw lots of

:41:44. > :41:48.drama. In two races today we saw sailors from Team GB capsize. And

:41:49. > :41:52.sometimes it is because you have got to push it and go for it, and you

:41:53. > :41:57.push things to the limit. When you take those risks up, sometimes it

:41:58. > :42:03.goes wrong. In the sailing, you have a series of preliminary heats. You

:42:04. > :42:10.count those scores. Then it goes into this do or die medal race on a

:42:11. > :42:15.tiny little course. And it doesn't last very long. You see them

:42:16. > :42:19.capsizing. Part of that was nerves. They were trying too hard. They knew

:42:20. > :42:26.that they had one chance they get a medal and this was it. And

:42:27. > :42:30.especially those bows, the skiffs, you have got to let the whole thing

:42:31. > :42:36.flow. I am the supported for both of them today. They should not be

:42:37. > :42:40.capsizing at this level. Let's talk about the successes, Nick Dempsey

:42:41. > :42:45.with the windsurfing. He came here with high hopes. But it was a silver

:42:46. > :42:51.medal. How will he reflect on that in the winter? He will be pleased.

:42:52. > :42:56.He wanted to win gold. He took a silver in London, but he sailed well

:42:57. > :43:00.and he pushed the eventual winner so hard. The pair of them were

:43:01. > :43:05.untouchable, head and shoulders above the rest of the field. His

:43:06. > :43:11.fifth Olympic Games, his third medal. He knows what he is doing. He

:43:12. > :43:17.has seen it all before. He kept a cool head. He sailed well, but

:43:18. > :43:28.Indian, Dorian was a convincing winner. He will be pleased. -- but

:43:29. > :43:31.in the end. Sometimes you have got to hold your hand up and say that

:43:32. > :43:39.you would have to do something incredible to better the winner in

:43:40. > :43:43.that. He has been 20 years of professional WinServer, he has loads

:43:44. > :43:50.of World Championships and medals. He will be relieved that he ended on

:43:51. > :43:55.a high. This has been a transformative games. We are used to

:43:56. > :43:59.the previous generation of sailors. Is there a new generation coming

:44:00. > :44:03.through? For something like windsurfing when Nick has been the

:44:04. > :44:08.dominant man for such a long time, will we see a fresh generation

:44:09. > :44:13.coming through? They are pushing hard. We see it in all the Olympic

:44:14. > :44:18.sports now. We began to believe in Britain that we are going to win,

:44:19. > :44:23.that we know how to win, that we expect to win. It is not an

:44:24. > :44:28.arrogance, but it is infectious, and nobody wants to come to the Olympic

:44:29. > :44:33.Games as part of Team GB and not be in a position to get the opportunity

:44:34. > :44:38.to get a medal. We have definitely got a new generation coming. They

:44:39. > :44:47.are much more mature, professional Bull and sensible than I was at that

:44:48. > :44:52.have changed. You were a double Olympic gold medallist. From your

:44:53. > :44:57.perspective, there is real excitement in Rio. Lots of them love

:44:58. > :45:03.the fact that the games are here. Some have been shouting and angry,

:45:04. > :45:08.but in a game like this that is not as organised as it was four years

:45:09. > :45:10.ago, and feels a little bit more loose on occasion, it feels a bit

:45:11. > :45:18.relaxed, maybe to relax. Ian Walker is commentating with us,

:45:19. > :45:22.I'm not sure we would have done that well here. I like to dot the eyes

:45:23. > :45:27.and crossed the Tees, I like to work harder than anyone else, know

:45:28. > :45:34.exactly what was going on, here you had to roll with it, like the

:45:35. > :45:39.Brazilians. They took the Knox, took the opportunities, they came out on

:45:40. > :45:46.top. Giles Scott came here in the same boat that Ben Ainslie won all

:45:47. > :45:49.those gold medals and yes, he was overwhelming favourite, but have the

:45:50. > :45:53.weight of expectation. Everybody thought, nailed on gold medal, in

:45:54. > :45:58.the end he did it. It must be weird, he's lost one event in four years

:45:59. > :46:03.because his rudder fell off, he has so dominated the class, Britain has

:46:04. > :46:07.dominated since 2000. I always wondered how he would react when he

:46:08. > :46:13.finally won, it was an amazing moment, we were just off Copacabana,

:46:14. > :46:19.he let out this massive man raw, Captain sensible let it all out.

:46:20. > :46:31.That is the release of knowing what could have gone wrong, it all comes

:46:32. > :46:36.out. -- this roar. He probably would have won in London, but got pipped

:46:37. > :46:40.by Sir Ben Kingsley. Can you imagine watching somebody win the gold medal

:46:41. > :46:43.you knew you could have won. He's waited a long time, but he's an

:46:44. > :46:49.amazing athlete he can go on to win whole lot more. What about Hannah

:46:50. > :46:52.Mills and Saskia Clark, they had this strange delay. It happens in a

:46:53. > :46:56.sailing, they knew they were guaranteed gold but had to wait for

:46:57. > :46:59.the medal race, it was postponed for a day, then they could have that joy

:47:00. > :47:04.and release, even though they knew they had won. It doesn't happen in

:47:05. > :47:10.sailing often but both gold medals are British gold medals. They were

:47:11. > :47:13.so dominant they manage to get 20 points clear, meaning it didn't

:47:14. > :47:19.matter how they finished. They had to race, to have a clean race. They

:47:20. > :47:24.wouldn't allow themselves to properly celebrate until this

:47:25. > :47:31.moment. They are such a lovely pair, look at that. So sweet. They won

:47:32. > :47:36.silver in London and were picked in the medal race. I remember Hannah

:47:37. > :47:40.being so cross about it. She's an incredible talent and has been since

:47:41. > :47:45.she was this size. She's not much taller now. It was a great moment,

:47:46. > :47:48.such great partnership. I was going to ask about the partnership, in

:47:49. > :47:51.different classes, some people are on their own in the boat, they are

:47:52. > :47:56.fine with that. Giles Scott gets on with it. Do you have to be friends,

:47:57. > :48:01.can respect work in that regard, can you get on with it with someone you

:48:02. > :48:04.don't necessarily spend time with? Like any working relationship I

:48:05. > :48:07.suppose, but a whole lot more pressured and you spend a lot of

:48:08. > :48:14.time together and have to trust each other. Your decision-making happens

:48:15. > :48:17.all the time. You want to sit on a boat where you don't have to say

:48:18. > :48:21.very much, you know what the other is going to do. They had that from

:48:22. > :48:26.the moment they step in the boat together. I said to Hannah, before

:48:27. > :48:31.she came to the games, I asked, when you go home what will you be happy

:48:32. > :48:34.with? She burst into tears because she realised it would end and she

:48:35. > :48:38.wouldn't see her crew and Saskia every single day. They are such a

:48:39. > :48:44.tight unit, so tough that they won so convincingly. Saskia hasn't

:48:45. > :48:48.decided what to do. She told me she was retiring but now she has tasted

:48:49. > :48:53.gold and stood on the top step she may well be back. We have to talk

:48:54. > :48:59.about the Brazilians, that huge expectation in the 49 Fx class, four

:49:00. > :49:04.could have won gold in the medal race, which is rare in itself, throw

:49:05. > :49:09.in the host nation, so much drama, so close between them and the Kiwis

:49:10. > :49:13.in the end. It was amazing, the sailing venue packed full of

:49:14. > :49:19.Brazilians, the media, on the water. You can see her jumping in the

:49:20. > :49:22.water. She's from a long line of amazing Brazilian sailors. Brazil

:49:23. > :49:31.have won their most gold medals in this sport, is a real dynasty. Have

:49:32. > :49:36.you ever been carried out onto the beach in your boat? I have. The

:49:37. > :49:41.first time I won gold was in a very small boat so it was possible. I'm

:49:42. > :49:48.chuffed for them, she is the queen of Rio tonight. The crowd was huge

:49:49. > :49:51.down there today, in terms of the knowledgeable element of the crowd,

:49:52. > :49:54.you say Brazil have won the most gold medals in this event, they must

:49:55. > :49:58.have known commend the same way there was a knowledgeable crowd at

:49:59. > :50:04.Weymouth, was it the same today for the final event there? Sailing is

:50:05. > :50:10.big in Brazil, particularly Rio, her dad has won five Olympic medals.

:50:11. > :50:14.Robert was trying to get his sixth to become the most successful

:50:15. > :50:19.Olympic sailor ever. Her uncle and great uncle have won medals,

:50:20. > :50:26.everybody knows who they are. They came out in force today. The noise,

:50:27. > :50:33.we were trying to record, to record audio for the piece tonight. It was

:50:34. > :50:39.a real party. And it's great for the sport here. It's great for the home

:50:40. > :50:46.nation. Still celebrating. I imagine it would go well into the night. We

:50:47. > :50:50.had a hairdresser on earlier. Can you see Shirley's face? We like to

:50:51. > :50:54.celebrate everything in Brazil. He wanted to come down because he had

:50:55. > :50:58.been watching BBC Four in London, they know how to celebrate in Rio,

:50:59. > :51:02.they love it. And success, Brazilians love success more than

:51:03. > :51:12.anything else, that would have gone down so well today. You might not

:51:13. > :51:19.have seen our Copacabinmen. Here they are. Raphael... We get to know

:51:20. > :51:23.them so well. A new cowboy hat for tonight and long socks. We can see

:51:24. > :51:31.them in action. They are big fans of the show. I think it's Donatello

:51:32. > :51:39.driving, Raphael, Pedro, Alejandro Sabella with the long football socks

:51:40. > :51:43.on. Great technique. I thought I had the best location of the games, but

:51:44. > :51:47.it's all happening here. Yesterday on twitter Copacabinmen was trending

:51:48. > :51:53.for quite some time, people love the bin men. What will happen next? I

:51:54. > :51:57.can give you chapter and verse what time they come past, we've been here

:51:58. > :52:01.two weeks, we know everything about them. It has been a real pleasure to

:52:02. > :52:09.hear you covering sailing. I hope you've enjoyed Rio. Loved it, loved

:52:10. > :52:13.it. Thank you, Shirley Robertson, we need to salute Shirley Epoupa time

:52:14. > :52:18.Olympic gold medallist. Can we give her a round of applause. It's like

:52:19. > :52:25.the Steve Wright show on Radio 2. Back to the basketball now. I think

:52:26. > :52:29.we probably are. When we left it, USA were four points ahead of

:52:30. > :52:38.France, we're going to rejoin them, this is into the second half, Mike

:52:39. > :52:41.Carson and Vita Sabral picked this up. Let's see if France can upset

:52:42. > :52:58.the favourites. It's a loose ball. Moya gathers it

:52:59. > :53:04.in and hits the two. She is so smooth. Unbelievable. It's

:53:05. > :53:18.usually... She's such a strong shooter. Interesting they have left

:53:19. > :53:25.Johannes out there. Tipped away. Augustus goes behind the back. She

:53:26. > :53:31.hits. In the first RFID and looked like the United States were playing

:53:32. > :53:36.great intensity. They put a strong word in at half-time because they

:53:37. > :53:46.have opted for the third quarter. Augustus draws Johannes. Griner all

:53:47. > :53:54.alone under the boards. There is no frenetic energy to Moore, she seems

:53:55. > :54:03.to move so easily. Taurasi Mrs and misses it badly. The came to the US.

:54:04. > :54:07.They reset now with Augustus. An Gruda. Trying to get Charles with

:54:08. > :54:16.the mismatch. I don't think it beat the shot

:54:17. > :54:20.clock. I think they lost sight of the shot clock and it was so casual.

:54:21. > :54:27.That was the kind of stuff Gino was Mac properly looking for from

:54:28. > :54:33.Taurasi. They have better stop, this third quarter of the United States,

:54:34. > :54:38.given the way they ended the second. Gruda behind the 3-point line.

:54:39. > :54:47.Moving in under the basket. Johannes looks for Gruda, Gruda gets it in.

:54:48. > :54:54.Great look by Johannes. Brilliant stuff from France. Moore trying to

:54:55. > :54:58.post up Johannes, giving away a couple of inches, and a lot of

:54:59. > :55:05.weights to her. Taurasi, again for three. Hits. The first three of the

:55:06. > :55:08.game. Taurasi, had to come eventually, she is such a strong

:55:09. > :55:12.3-point shooter. If the United States can get that game going,

:55:13. > :55:16.their lead could increase. France keeping up. You get the feeling she

:55:17. > :55:23.was coming out trying to shoot threes because she knew one had to

:55:24. > :55:30.drop sooner or later. Yacoubou, seven on the shot clock. Into the

:55:31. > :55:34.corner, Johannes. Lost the ball out of bounds, stepped out of bounds, I

:55:35. > :55:40.thought Moore had caught a foul but she didn't. Driving with two seconds

:55:41. > :55:44.on the shot clock, not sure it was the best idea. I tell you what she

:55:45. > :55:50.was thinking, they know she likes to shoot three. Moore stepped forward

:55:51. > :55:54.to defend the three. I thought she might have drawn the foul. She was

:55:55. > :56:06.about to pull up and take the shot. It makes sense now. Griner on

:56:07. > :56:11.Yacoubou, comes across the middle. 11 points lead again now, this is

:56:12. > :56:14.the crucial time for France. US has come out strong in the second half,

:56:15. > :56:23.France have to keep working at the lead. Miyem lost the ball to Seimone

:56:24. > :56:32.Augustus. More fired up, you saw the chest bump. Griner getting the

:56:33. > :56:35.better of Yacoubou. For France now, they are in a similar position to

:56:36. > :56:40.the second quarter, where they were behind by a few points, kept

:56:41. > :56:44.plugging away. That is about the best Yacoubou could play that on

:56:45. > :56:49.defence. Moving her feet, which often she doesn't do, to try and get

:56:50. > :56:55.position. Griner is much quicker, she runs into Yacoubou, dishes it

:56:56. > :57:03.out. The tip by Augustus, can she keep it in? She did by bouncing it

:57:04. > :57:08.off the five of Johannes. US 49-38. Again, looks like a different

:57:09. > :57:13.mentality. They won a call and are all fired up for it. Tina Charles on

:57:14. > :57:18.the drive, blast it's hard, but it doesn't hit the ring. A good pass.

:57:19. > :57:26.Doesn't get the role of the glass. Nice look by Epoupa, who steals it

:57:27. > :57:27.from behind from Augustus. Epoupa wants to come up quickly, goes

:57:28. > :58:02.behind... Epoupa driving down now. We've got our sound back. Yacoubou

:58:03. > :58:08.coming down after Charles's basket. Epoupa sometimes people don't see

:58:09. > :58:15.you coming. She is a magnificent talent. Yacoubou went up strong,

:58:16. > :58:20.basket didn't go but got the foul on Griner. This has been the most

:58:21. > :58:25.interesting referee point of the whole Olympic Games, if you are

:58:26. > :58:29.standing still, you have what they call a cylinder, body cylinder, that

:58:30. > :58:34.is the space you can inhabit, as long as you stand still in your

:58:35. > :58:39.cylinder, you can't commit a foul. If your hands are straight above the

:58:40. > :58:42.head, that is part of your cylinder. In this Olympic Games if you stand

:58:43. > :58:47.still with your hands over your head in the offensive player runs into

:58:48. > :58:50.your arms, you will be called for the foul, it's one of those

:58:51. > :58:57.anomalies that is never going to be resolved. Players try so hard to

:58:58. > :59:01.stand there with their hands in the air because they read the rule, they

:59:02. > :59:07.know what it is, they still will get called for the foul. Yacoubou

:59:08. > :59:17.deserved a foul. In that situation. Though she worked hard to get

:59:18. > :59:22.underneath and get position. Taurasi turns it over. Looked like momentum

:59:23. > :59:27.was going the way of the United States. France just staying in

:59:28. > :59:32.there. As long as they can keep doing that, they will at least have

:59:33. > :59:55.a chance in the final part of the game.

:59:56. > :00:11.In and out, and the rebound two fouls. Moore. Everything a little

:00:12. > :00:20.static now. Fowles really fighting hard for position. There is the

:00:21. > :00:24.second three of the game from Taurasi. When things are tight in

:00:25. > :00:27.the middle, you can rely on Taurasi to hit threes, it's such a relief,

:00:28. > :00:32.relieves pressure, forcing France into a different kind of defence.

:00:33. > :00:39.You can't defend everywhere. Taurasi talking heavy trash to Johannes as

:00:40. > :00:46.she ran through the middle. Saying you can't do that and expect to get

:00:47. > :00:50.the ball. Johannes coming in. Gets the role. Extraordinary shot, didn't

:00:51. > :00:54.look like she was going anywhere. Carrying low on the hip then

:00:55. > :00:59.scooping towards the basket. In and out, but follows with the rebound.

:01:00. > :01:09.56-43. She had great position under the basket. France time-out as the

:01:10. > :01:12.US has gone up by 13. 56-43. Look at Fowles, got the position, of Gruda,

:01:13. > :01:35.get it in. France have been working hard the

:01:36. > :01:54.whole game. It is how long they can keep it up.

:01:55. > :02:18.exhorting them on as well. There is Taurasi. You would have to say that

:02:19. > :02:28.the US have upped it in 3-point shooting. Sue Bird, suppose you

:02:29. > :02:34.could call it day to day with a knee injury and there's only two more

:02:35. > :02:41.days left. Michel comes back in to replace Johannes. Amant is in again.

:02:42. > :02:51.She played well in the first half coming off the

:02:52. > :03:05.Thought about the shot, decided to drive. I think they lost sight of it

:03:06. > :03:14.again. It was so casual. Whelan, now, for the US. Delle Donne is in.

:03:15. > :03:22.Let's see if the 3-point floodgates have opened. Taurasi gets the basket

:03:23. > :03:29.and the file. You only get 3-point shots when you get the 3-point play.

:03:30. > :03:33.Amant is called for the foul. Like you said before, this is a critical

:03:34. > :03:38.moment for France. If they don't pick it up, if they can't stop the

:03:39. > :03:42.US from scoring at the other end, it can get away from them. They have

:03:43. > :03:51.only got seven points so far in this 3rd quarter. Epoupa goes to the

:03:52. > :04:03.bench for a break, and Bouderra comes on. She was the MVP of the

:04:04. > :04:12.French league last season. Ciak Amant and Ayayi, they have a centre

:04:13. > :04:19.and two forwards, Michel and Bouderra, takes the 3-point play

:04:20. > :04:32.with just over three minutes of play in the third. Good goal movement,

:04:33. > :04:40.Ciak on the outside trying to pull them away from under the basket.

:04:41. > :04:48.Michel, only two on the shot block. And the 24 second violation which is

:04:49. > :04:53.not good for France, but it is a sign that the US has turned on the

:04:54. > :04:58.defensive intensity a little bit. There is no way that the French can

:04:59. > :05:02.find a way through, and that is a real concern. Delle Donne has nipped

:05:03. > :05:07.away, and Viacom 's Bouderra. They have a two on one if they take it

:05:08. > :05:14.quickly. Instead, the three, which Mrs, and Charles rebounds for the

:05:15. > :05:21.US. Great play by Bouderra. Take the basket you can get. The 3-point

:05:22. > :05:30.there just wasn't on. Delle Donne. Augustus. Whelan drives. Releases

:05:31. > :05:41.the ball, France have it again. But Michel kick it forward.

:05:42. > :06:02.Whatever they want to call. Bouderra, Amant, to Ciak. Ciak gets

:06:03. > :06:09.the hand of Charles away. Bouderra was travelling before she started

:06:10. > :06:14.her dribbling. It is frustrating when you get the turnover to then

:06:15. > :06:18.lose it again. And that is the challenge for France, to just keep

:06:19. > :06:33.it up, to keep pushing as hard as they can. McCoughtry is in the game

:06:34. > :06:40.now. Whelan hits, 61-43, 18 now for the US with a minute and a half in

:06:41. > :06:50.the 3rd quarter. The score, 21-7, in this quarter. Ciak put her shoulders

:06:51. > :07:02.down and blocked, basically. On the offensive line, there, basically.

:07:03. > :07:09.Ayayi has one foot out of bounds. And the pass is throwing away to

:07:10. > :07:15.Whalen. She draws the foul and the shot is no good. She is just waiting

:07:16. > :07:19.for the foul, basically. At the other end they thought that was out

:07:20. > :07:25.of bounds and that was why they. . Ayayi with the presence of mind to

:07:26. > :07:30.get up towards the basket. They are really taking control now, the US.

:07:31. > :07:35.This is a problem for France. You have to keep up that intensity of

:07:36. > :07:40.the first and 2nd quarter and execute it to that level, but it is

:07:41. > :07:44.the US who are stepping in up in the 3rd quarter. For France, it was a

:07:45. > :07:52.question of keeping doing what they were doing and they came out just a

:07:53. > :07:59.little bit cold, and couldn't do it. It doesn't look like they have the

:08:00. > :08:04.solutions to find in open play. 19 point lead in the last minute of the

:08:05. > :08:10.3rd quarter. Ciak, underneath, didn't not get the spin off the

:08:11. > :08:17.glass. Whalen is coming for three, and that is blocked by Michel. Nice

:08:18. > :08:21.play by Michel. Watch Whalen now. She's going to go with the

:08:22. > :08:32.two-handed layout, but Michel just pokes it away.

:08:33. > :09:03.Maya Moore says, here, have this seat. I saved it for you! And the

:09:04. > :09:08.foul on Marielle Amant. The US, just keep doing what they are doing, and

:09:09. > :09:13.they can see this one through. You can tell by the body language of the

:09:14. > :09:23.players on the bench. All of sudden, they've looked relaxed.

:09:24. > :09:32.That is something the US have to get used to. Everyone is going to face

:09:33. > :09:36.them, like it is a final. Amant keeps it in play but only as far as

:09:37. > :09:42.Delle Donne, it is four on three for the US. Delle Donne goes right to

:09:43. > :09:48.the hook, puts it in an draws the foul on Ayayi. She will get a

:09:49. > :09:54.complete the 3-point play. That is what he likes to see, the kind of

:09:55. > :09:58.basketball he expects his team to play, athletic in attack. And you

:09:59. > :10:02.would have to say, unstoppable. I don't think there's a team in the

:10:03. > :10:10.Olympic Games that can that kind of play. The other point you were

:10:11. > :10:16.making about teams being up to play the United States, you have to say

:10:17. > :10:20.that these women's teams are getting better and better, the quality of

:10:21. > :10:26.women's basketball is coming on in leaps and bounds as more schools and

:10:27. > :10:33.clubs start to take it very seriously. And the gap is narrowing

:10:34. > :10:36.as quickly as it possibly could. Tactically, there's great

:10:37. > :10:55.improvement as coaching develops. Yes. That shot, knocked away.

:10:56. > :11:10.Big turnaround in this 3rd quarter, 25-7 now that the US have outscored

:11:11. > :11:18.France. I didn't think she had committed the foul, but she had.

:11:19. > :11:23.Ciak. This is the second time she has hit the board. McCoughtry with

:11:24. > :11:29.the shot and it just misses. That ends the 3rd quarter and the US has

:11:30. > :11:35.outscored France 25 eight in this quarter, after the 2nd quarter

:11:36. > :11:43.completely level, and they now lead by 21 points. 65-44. Team USA

:11:44. > :11:51.running away with it in that 3rd quarter. We should be there for any

:11:52. > :11:55.conclusion of that one, the final quarter. Thank you for all of your

:11:56. > :12:01.messages. They are flooding in throughout the programme. I know how

:12:02. > :12:05.much you enjoy them. I thought we had a problem, a technical issue,

:12:06. > :12:10.but everything is fine. We'll be back for the final period of the

:12:11. > :12:19.basketball. We will also have Usain Bolt coming up on BBC One at 2:30am.

:12:20. > :12:23.Jade Jones goes in the taekwondo at two o'clock. Those are things to

:12:24. > :12:28.keep in your diary if you are going to stay up all night. I know that

:12:29. > :12:33.some people are setting an alarm to watch Usain Bolt later on. Some

:12:34. > :12:44.things to tidy up before returning to the basketball. One is Andy

:12:45. > :12:58.Murray... Ladies and gentlemen, the anthem of Great Britain.

:12:59. > :13:05.That was the technical issue. We had to change the battery on the camera

:13:06. > :13:11.so you could not hear me for a bit. We were talking about those little

:13:12. > :13:14.things that they hand out to the athletes, and Andy Murray broke his

:13:15. > :13:20.during the medal ceremony. I have been told that they are a 3-D image

:13:21. > :13:26.of the logo of the games. They are meant to symbolise contagious energy

:13:27. > :13:31.and the exuberant nature of Brazilians. That is what it is all

:13:32. > :13:39.about. Lots of people thought that Andy Murray was looking at his phone

:13:40. > :13:44.during the medal ceremony. Ov on BBC One tonight, we told you about Jade

:13:45. > :13:50.Jones. Usain Bolt getting ready for the final of the 200 metres. Just

:13:51. > :13:55.grooving out and enjoying himself. And we shall get back to the

:13:56. > :14:10.basketball. Team USA taking on France, they are way ahead, 65-44.

:14:11. > :14:27.Here are Mike and Vito to talk us through to the end.

:14:28. > :14:38.That is great. Look at her. She had perfect position. There was no

:14:39. > :14:47.reason to run into her, basically. Her cylinder was completely

:14:48. > :14:48.established. Inside, Maya Moore with the offensive rebound, and that is a

:14:49. > :15:00.killer, right there. It was tipped away briefly by

:15:01. > :15:09.Breanna Stewart making her first appearance. Swish! She had a good

:15:10. > :15:17.look at the basket, but nice arc and spin on it. It's due 9-46. She's had

:15:18. > :15:24.a great performance. When she's been an she's been very good. Moore to

:15:25. > :15:30.Breanna Stewart, Stuart keeps it in play. Look at that, France, up with

:15:31. > :15:35.it. Look who is down in court, Johannes for the basket. It's how

:15:36. > :15:39.they have to keep playing, keep plugging away, do your best, keep

:15:40. > :15:44.pushing, up the intensity, see how you go in the final few minutes.

:15:45. > :15:51.That is going to be a backcourt violation on the US. Johannes is 21,

:15:52. > :15:57.I wonder if she has US college eligibility after playing pro in

:15:58. > :16:00.France has ruined that for it. I bet there are coaches out there looking,

:16:01. > :16:06.thinking that is a girl with some potential right there. She will

:16:07. > :16:13.develop quickly playing pro in France as well. There is the foul,

:16:14. > :16:19.Stuart gets the foul, as Bouderra drives. Bouderra has been great in

:16:20. > :16:22.the sense of being aggressive. I'm only one metre 63, I'm still going

:16:23. > :16:26.to take the ball to the hoop and make things happen. That is what a

:16:27. > :16:31.good point guard should be thinking. Nothing wrong with being in that

:16:32. > :16:35.short in basketball! Bouderra did well, she came in very late for

:16:36. > :16:41.Celine Dumerc who was injured before the tournament. She has contributed

:16:42. > :16:46.really well. Tell you who else is here scouting the tournament, the

:16:47. > :16:51.Scouts from the women's teams in the big women's basketball countries,

:16:52. > :16:55.Spain, Russia, Turkey, where the big clubs are really dominant. Players

:16:56. > :17:02.on the French team playing in the French league can take that step.

:17:03. > :17:11.Ekaterinburg could be the next stop for Johannes. Fowles goes to the

:17:12. > :17:19.bench, Griner comes back in. Breanna Stewart goes to the corner now. And

:17:20. > :17:25.the ball goes loose through. Bouderra moves through the hands of

:17:26. > :17:36.Griner. Gruda on the baseline, crosscourt. And gets the role.

:17:37. > :17:43.Yacoubou, they go strong to her. That's the interesting thing, she

:17:44. > :17:48.hasn't played much part in this game, Skrela. She's one of the

:17:49. > :17:53.players who has played the most minutes for the French team, 21

:17:54. > :17:57.minutes on average per game. Looks like she's really contributing in

:17:58. > :18:02.the fourth quarter. Curious but I guess there is a reason for it.

:18:03. > :18:06.France's still plugging away, outscoring the United States 8-4,

:18:07. > :18:09.that is how you'd have to take the fourth quarter, try to win it, see

:18:10. > :18:16.how close you can get towards the last few minutes. , baskets, get it

:18:17. > :18:17.down to ten, you've got five minutes to play, it's a very manageable

:18:18. > :18:28.game. Johannes with 13, Yacoubou with 12,

:18:29. > :18:35.you wish you could get more minutes on the court, really. Balanced

:18:36. > :18:44.scoring as you would expect from the US.

:18:45. > :18:51.Look at those heels! I'm surprised she can wear those on the court.

:18:52. > :18:58.Every basketball court I've ever been on says no shoes, just

:18:59. > :19:01.sneakers. She knows her way around the basketball court, tactically

:19:02. > :19:07.doing a very good job with the French team. Really getting the most

:19:08. > :19:12.out of them. I'm thinking about Skrela, Skrela is a shorter wing

:19:13. > :19:16.player, a guard but not quick guard, a shorter wing player, one of the

:19:17. > :19:23.longer ones inhere in this game. It's probably why she hasn't played

:19:24. > :19:25.much. As a matchup thing for me have to give the coach credit for seeing

:19:26. > :19:42.those match ups. Yacoubou Johannes takes it up top.

:19:43. > :19:52.Taurasi is on her. No steals for France, fascinating statistic.

:19:53. > :19:57.Yacoubou, just slow to react. By the time the pass was in the air, hadn't

:19:58. > :20:02.started moving towards it. Every pass sends a message, unfortunately

:20:03. > :20:07.for Yacoubou the message came too late for her, she had to make the

:20:08. > :20:10.move. They keep plugging away, credit to the French, they've

:20:11. > :20:15.performed well here against what is a really strong United States

:20:16. > :20:21.outfit. Stuart, the College Player of the Year in the last three years

:20:22. > :20:27.for Gino, she is a between Ender 's game, not quick enough on the wing,

:20:28. > :20:35.not strong enough inside. Couple of steals in quick succession. Another

:20:36. > :20:39.rebound for Gruda. Talked about how great the intensity was for the

:20:40. > :20:50.United States in the third quarter. It's dropped again. Yacoubou hits,

:20:51. > :20:59.it's what they needed, 67-54. Give Skrela some credit for that rebound

:21:00. > :21:04.at the other end. Taurasi. Griner. Griner bank said. She's six foot

:21:05. > :21:14.eight, but she's got a good touch. -- Griner banks it. Six minutes to

:21:15. > :21:24.play. 17 point lead. In the air, ball, Delle Donne brings it in.

:21:25. > :21:28.Gives it to Catchings. After the way she

:21:29. > :21:41.Taurasi. Griner was free underneath. Griner misses the shot but gets

:21:42. > :21:44.fouled on the rebound by Yacoubou. Interesting no foul was called

:21:45. > :21:48.before an Taurasi, there was a lot of contact there. This is the

:21:49. > :21:51.trouble for the French, they have to get these defensive rebounds and not

:21:52. > :21:57.allow the United States another chance. It falls on Johannes before

:21:58. > :22:02.Yacoubou came around, Johannes had her hand in there on the rebound.

:22:03. > :22:07.Johannes drew her first foul and the team's second.

:22:08. > :22:19.Great atmosphere. Taurasi for three. A quick release three, making it a

:22:20. > :22:24.20 point game. A steal and no basket, no basket but the fall.

:22:25. > :22:30.Catchings who has only just come in the game this quarter, that really

:22:31. > :22:35.is now the kiss of death. Yeah, after conceding three points, then

:22:36. > :22:37.to have the inbound given straightaway, it's really

:22:38. > :22:42.problematic for the French. Really difficult for them. Johannes has

:22:43. > :22:47.gone off a bit in this fourth quarter but put in a great

:22:48. > :22:52.performance. The basket by Catchings was no good, you saw them saying no

:22:53. > :22:57.basket, but the basket by Augustus, backing it in. Now 76-54, 22 point

:22:58. > :23:05.lead halfway through the fourth quarter. Michel is in for France.

:23:06. > :23:08.Passes to Yacoubou. She went from a previous attempt, that play they

:23:09. > :23:15.were trying to execute, she understood, yes, I have to make the

:23:16. > :23:22.move. Delle Donne. Taurasi. She's got the three. She misses. Yacoubou

:23:23. > :23:32.with the rebound, quickly up to Yacoubou. Followed by Taurasi. She

:23:33. > :23:36.was giving that one intentionally. That's the difficulty with the

:23:37. > :23:41.intentional foul rule. Yacoubou under the basket, staying strong.

:23:42. > :23:45.That's why they made it unsportsmanlike. You will see it

:23:46. > :23:53.called if there is too much contact, if it's too physical. Miyem for

:23:54. > :24:00.three! If it's obvious the opponent is on a clear path to the basket as

:24:01. > :24:07.well. I would just argue it disrupts the flow of the game. I agree

:24:08. > :24:13.completely, I hate it. Catchings... I don't know if it's always worth

:24:14. > :24:21.wasting the foul, because the other side get into the penalty saying

:24:22. > :24:27.position earlier. The long hook shot to get the ball in, two quick

:24:28. > :24:32.baskets for France. Catchings has it ripped away from her by Michel.

:24:33. > :24:38.France is down by 15 with the ball Commander four minutes to play. You

:24:39. > :24:43.have to work quickly here now. Michel comes open. Going to take the

:24:44. > :24:54.shot from the fall line. Bounces out. In bug comes out with Michel on

:24:55. > :25:00.her, tries to push her out of the way, here comes the pic from Tina

:25:01. > :25:06.Charles. Taurasi sets a pic on the baseline, look at how she is being

:25:07. > :25:13.held by Skrela. Catchings got hit. No call. Michel comes down with the

:25:14. > :25:21.layup and it is a 13 point game. Time-out called by the United

:25:22. > :25:29.States. With the score 76-63. France just making noise. When she stopped,

:25:30. > :25:32.Michel kept going for the points. Credit to France the way they have

:25:33. > :25:38.approached the fourth quarter, they are now outscoring the United States

:25:39. > :25:42.19-11, they've gone on a 19 point run. They keep plugging away, that

:25:43. > :25:47.is how they have to approach it, done really well to get into this

:25:48. > :25:51.position. Only once has the United States not scored a hundred points,

:25:52. > :25:53.it might happen again here. The French two away from being the

:25:54. > :26:02.second highest scorers against the US. Dell that end you can't be late

:26:03. > :26:16.on the screens and threes, we can't be late on those switches will stop

:26:17. > :26:23.right now, away from BJ. Did he say Beijing? BJ, I think it was. That

:26:24. > :26:31.was two Olympics ago. It might be one of those plays they come up

:26:32. > :26:36.with, they give codenames to. The interesting thing is France has

:26:37. > :26:41.upped their defensive intensity. Again, in basketball, you play to

:26:42. > :26:45.the referees, the referees are going to allow the contact, you allow the

:26:46. > :26:52.contact. You do it until they tell you you can't. It's the only way I

:26:53. > :27:02.could play at times. Moore is back in the game. She hits, that is what

:27:03. > :27:10.she was therefore. Smooth and easy. 78-63. They are still looking at

:27:11. > :27:14.Catchings. She's a tough competitor. Michel. She was the one who hit

:27:15. > :27:22.Catchings then went down for the layup. Mix the tough drive. This is

:27:23. > :27:25.the second-highest score put up against the United States at the

:27:26. > :27:28.Olympic Games and there might be more to come. Michel getting this

:27:29. > :27:37.deal, the steals from France been extraordinary. Miyem puts it in,

:27:38. > :27:43.it's an 11 point game. I'm not sure anyone has outshot the United States

:27:44. > :27:47.by ten points in a quarter but that is what the French are doing now.

:27:48. > :27:56.Three for the US, right when they needed. Taurasi. Those are the

:27:57. > :28:00.coolers. Sorry, Miyem comes in, it's two, hit three, this is what made

:28:01. > :28:09.you can't so tough when they were playing for Yukon. Credit to the

:28:10. > :28:18.French. Griner tipped it over to Delle Donne. Taurasi. Maya Moore.

:28:19. > :28:22.Throws up an airball. As soon as I say it's... Michel, who worked great

:28:23. > :28:31.position, the ball goes off her. She's arguing the point. I'm not

:28:32. > :28:33.sure if the Canadian umpire is bilingually Canadian, like most of

:28:34. > :28:44.us are. Time-out called by France. I don't

:28:45. > :28:51.know how they will approach the last minute and a half, it's really

:28:52. > :28:56.difficult from here. They've put up an amazing performance. Outscoring

:28:57. > :29:01.the United States in this quarter. They are pushing the US side all the

:29:02. > :29:02.way, I'm not sure anyone has been this strong against the United

:29:03. > :29:18.States this consistently. Sue Bird auditioning for a coaching

:29:19. > :29:24.role. After her retirement. Yeah, and I think this is, in one sense,

:29:25. > :29:31.what the US team needs, they need to be challenged. They need to reach in

:29:32. > :29:35.and find their best. It's too easy when playing teams you can dominate

:29:36. > :29:40.and do what you like. France has made them try to play their best. To

:29:41. > :29:45.be honest, they haven't played their best at all times, France has had

:29:46. > :29:48.them on the back foot. It was the third quarter blow out for the US,

:29:49. > :29:53.besides that, the French have kept pace. That is the problem for any

:29:54. > :30:00.team playing them, the US team is so explosive they can turn a close game

:30:01. > :30:08.into a big lead very quickly. Almost before you realise. Look at the

:30:09. > :30:15.mismatch. Griner moving off. You could see that one coming. It's been

:30:16. > :30:16.great for the French fans, their team has really given them something

:30:17. > :30:29.to cheer about. If France play this well against

:30:30. > :30:35.Serbia they should be able to win the bronze medal.

:30:36. > :30:44.Still a minute ago in this one. They are focused on strongly. The United

:30:45. > :30:48.States look like they are heading towards the gold-medal game. That is

:30:49. > :30:51.why everyone expected them to be. They have put in a dominant

:30:52. > :30:56.performance in the end, but it wasn't always easy. Whalen wanted to

:30:57. > :31:05.work the clock, she dribbled the ball off her put. This is not what

:31:06. > :31:10.we expect from the US team. What a job the French coach has done, to do

:31:11. > :31:19.what she has achieved with this team that came second at the Euro basket.

:31:20. > :31:23.Now they are facing the United States in the semifinal. French

:31:24. > :31:29.woman's basketball is looking strong. French basketball in general

:31:30. > :31:35.is looking strong. I knew would think they have done this without,

:31:36. > :31:39.they played the US pretty well in the Olympic final, with Celine

:31:40. > :31:45.Dumerc, and with a deeper line-up, with players who were not playing in

:31:46. > :31:50.London 2012, really contributing here, including the very young

:31:51. > :32:03.Johannes, who was 17 then, watching at home on TV. Yes, the future is

:32:04. > :32:05.looking very good for France. Taurasi with the rebound from

:32:06. > :32:23.Johannes. Brings it down. Taurasi is all alone for three. She misses,

:32:24. > :32:33.Maya Moore tips the rebound. Michel holds up with Whalen all over her,

:32:34. > :32:39.in fact. Michel again. Looking inside for Amant. It is stripped

:32:40. > :32:45.away by Taurasi. 1.4 seconds left. Amant did pretty well coming off the

:32:46. > :32:51.bench. They got good minutes from Kamba, as well off the bench, Michel

:32:52. > :32:57.of the bench, and there is the buzzer that brings the game to an

:32:58. > :33:00.end. The final score, the US 86, France, 67. The scoreline might make

:33:01. > :33:06.it look easy but it was certainly not easy for the US. They had a

:33:07. > :33:14.runaway in the 3rd quarter, but in the 4th quarter, France outscored

:33:15. > :33:19.them. France made this a game. They played as well in the first half

:33:20. > :33:21.against the US as anyone has done, and they came in the second half and

:33:22. > :33:33.played brilliantly as well. So the USA through to the final as

:33:34. > :33:43.we expected they would be. They face Spain and that's on Saturday at 730.

:33:44. > :33:48.We've been stuck in the BBC Four Kiosk of Dream for most of the night

:33:49. > :33:55.so we're going to go for Rwanda onto the beach. Those are our snacks,

:33:56. > :34:00.wonderful crisps. I'm sure that others are available! Let's have a

:34:01. > :34:10.wander down here. We have all sorts going on. The Copcacabinmen have

:34:11. > :34:17.already been. Over here, I'd like to introduce you to these lovely

:34:18. > :34:33.gentleman, we have two residents of Rio, now lived here for 20 years, Ed

:34:34. > :34:39.and Guy. I shouted over to Guy and check where he was from, Cumbria or

:34:40. > :34:44.Durham and I said exactly the wrong thing again. You both know Rio well.

:34:45. > :34:49.You have been here a long time. What have you made of the Olympics? It

:34:50. > :34:55.has been brilliant so far. The cycling went past the end of our

:34:56. > :35:00.street, which was useful. Do you watch it from your house? We did

:35:01. > :35:04.actually go out. Then we went to the athletics and we saw what should

:35:05. > :35:09.have been Super Saturday, the gold, silver and bronze was OK. Then we

:35:10. > :35:13.have been to watch the triathlon and shout on the Brownlee boys and there

:35:14. > :35:24.are still more to come, which is brilliant. Ed, when the games were

:35:25. > :35:29.first given to Rio, what was your first reaction as a Brazilian?

:35:30. > :35:34.Everyone is enjoying it, the tourist people and even the people that live

:35:35. > :35:41.here. Everyone is happy and they are happy to be out there, together,

:35:42. > :35:45.here. It is a nice atmosphere. Everything is fine. They are happy

:35:46. > :35:51.to be at this moment in Rio. I am very happy to be here. One thing

:35:52. > :35:55.that is important to mention is that when the games were awarded, they

:35:56. > :35:59.financial and economic situation in Brazil was different to what they

:36:00. > :36:04.are now, and throw in a political scandal as well, and it adds up to

:36:05. > :36:10.the frustration that some residents of Rio and more widely in Brazil

:36:11. > :36:15.have shown. Absolutely. In reality it has been good for the self-esteem

:36:16. > :36:19.of the city. We have had a difficult year politically and economically.

:36:20. > :36:23.And things are not going to get better that quickly. But we have

:36:24. > :36:28.seen that Rio can hold the major sporting event in the world, and it

:36:29. > :36:34.has been a success. And Rio needs to be congratulated for that. What do

:36:35. > :36:39.you think the legacy will be? It is a hard question. The talk about this

:36:40. > :36:44.at this stage when the Olympics are drawing to an end, but what is it

:36:45. > :36:49.going to be like, 8-12 years from now? Do you think there will be

:36:50. > :36:53.something here that they will look back and say, actually, it did make

:36:54. > :36:59.a difference. Everything is going fine with the city. The transport is

:37:00. > :37:04.much better now and the city is much more organised. So I think, for the

:37:05. > :37:09.future, the people will be more comfortable to come and visit us and

:37:10. > :37:16.have the facilities. I think it is a good legacy. One thing that I have

:37:17. > :37:19.learned in the last two and a half weeks is that Cariocas are proud of

:37:20. > :37:24.their city and proud to be Brazilian. Which is why what has

:37:25. > :37:28.happened with the American swimmers, the story developing today, the

:37:29. > :37:33.truth of what happened which might not be near what they suggested,

:37:34. > :37:38.that has actually offended the people of Rio. It has. There has

:37:39. > :37:42.been so much negative press about the Olympics, and there are giving

:37:43. > :37:47.the Olympics to Rio. Really, it is disgraceful to use the crime that

:37:48. > :37:53.does exist in Rio, it does exist and we know it does, but to use that as

:37:54. > :37:58.an excuse is disgraceful. And I hope that they really do apologise to the

:37:59. > :38:04.city of Rio. Do you want to say something about that as well, Ed?

:38:05. > :38:10.Just enjoy the city. I have spoken to lots of people wearing Team GB

:38:11. > :38:16.outfits. Because I live here, I ask them, what is your experience? And I

:38:17. > :38:23.have only heard good things. It is not a bad place. Come and visit Rio.

:38:24. > :38:26.It is cool. From the two representatives of the Rio tourist

:38:27. > :38:32.board, I was here for six weeks for the World Cup, we have spoken to

:38:33. > :38:37.loads of locals on BBC Four. I know that your friends back in England

:38:38. > :38:43.have been telling you about then party. Can I say hello Stuart, and

:38:44. > :38:48.hello Mum, because I woke her up and told her to watch. Helen Smith,

:38:49. > :38:59.Dalton in Furness, Cumbria. Does she live in Durham as well? She does

:39:00. > :39:11.not! Hello Helen and the rest of Guy's family. We will make sure that

:39:12. > :39:14.we enjoy our time in Rio. Watch our very handy BBC guide to handball. We

:39:15. > :39:26.have got some handball coming up. Olympic handball is a high-scoring

:39:27. > :39:31.body contact game played all the two halves of 30 minutes. It is played

:39:32. > :39:35.by two teams of seven, six outfield players and the goalkeeper. Each

:39:36. > :39:40.bullet surrounded by a semi-circular area indicated by a line six metres

:39:41. > :39:45.from the goal. Only the defending goalkeeper is allowed in this area.

:39:46. > :39:49.Players can move with the ball by dribbling and passing in the same

:39:50. > :39:54.way that a basketball player would. They can block the ball with their

:39:55. > :39:57.head, chest, Pfizer and knees but players cannot stand still with the

:39:58. > :40:02.ball for more than three seconds at the time. If the player commits a

:40:03. > :40:06.foul, the referee can award a free throw or a seven metre shot, taken

:40:07. > :40:11.from the seven metre line, and it is given when the referee rules that

:40:12. > :40:14.someone has Brexit -- prevented a goal-scoring opportunity. The

:40:15. > :40:20.free-throw is taken from the sport foul occurred. It is taken from the

:40:21. > :40:24.free-throw line if it happens inside this area. Overtime is played during

:40:25. > :40:29.the knockout phase if schools are tied at the end of regulation time.

:40:30. > :40:33.If this happens teams play five minutes extra and only play another

:40:34. > :40:37.five minutes if this scores are still tied. If the teams are still

:40:38. > :40:50.tied then the result is decided by a shoot out. Having a little game of

:40:51. > :40:59.football here with Nicolai and Juan. Solid left foot, come on, Nicolai.

:41:00. > :41:04.He is looking at himself on the screen. Are you staring at yourself

:41:05. > :41:12.on that television screen? Lovely skills, beautiful. They are looking

:41:13. > :41:17.at themselves. Have a look at them, looking at themselves on the camera.

:41:18. > :41:30.Can you see? That is you on there, look. Thank you very much, guys.

:41:31. > :41:36.Nice to see you. I know that you're thinking what are they doing out

:41:37. > :41:40.that late? It is only 8:40pm. That is what happens, football on the

:41:41. > :41:45.beach. We are getting some handball from the Future Arena now. Two of

:41:46. > :41:50.the favourites, we have no way taking on Russia. Norway are ranked

:41:51. > :41:55.fourth in the world. They are looking for their third straight

:41:56. > :42:01.gold in the women's handball. Russia won the silver back in 2008. This is

:42:02. > :42:04.a semifinal so the winner will go through to the gold medal match. It

:42:05. > :42:10.is a game that Peter Schmeichel used to play. Just talking about Peter

:42:11. > :42:16.Schmeichel. He used to play football for Manchester United. Just talking

:42:17. > :42:22.to the lads, sorry. Peter Schmeichel said he used to play handball, which

:42:23. > :42:24.is where his distinctive goalkeeping style came from. And we saw a bit of

:42:25. > :42:56.that in goal, there. Picking up a yellow card for that

:42:57. > :43:02.file early on. -- for that foul. It looked like a robust challenge from

:43:03. > :43:04.Kristiansen. It might not have been that bad. The referee has chosen not

:43:05. > :43:17.to realise it too harshly. Finding the net. Norway seven,

:43:18. > :43:26.Russia six. She has got good face on her. The playmaker, 20 years of age.

:43:27. > :43:33.Patched back towards the middle. And despite lots of close attention she

:43:34. > :43:39.managed to get the ball away. Norway ahead by one goal with ten minutes

:43:40. > :43:46.gone and is Olympic semifinal. Norway coming forward. She manages

:43:47. > :43:51.to get her left arm on the ball. Finds the back of the net. Norway

:43:52. > :44:09.restoring their two goal advantage, and another goal for Herrem. Some of

:44:10. > :44:16.the Russians coming back against this 6-0 defence by Norway, which we

:44:17. > :44:22.have seen has plenty of depth to it. On that occasion, they allowed the

:44:23. > :44:42.ball to sneak out. Russia, still right on their heels. So a goal from

:44:43. > :44:50.Anna Sen for Russia. And the shot came in, but Russia saved it, and

:44:51. > :45:01.now come charging forward. And the Norwegians, waiting to come off.

:45:02. > :45:08.Switching to a 5-1 defence at the moment. Dropping back into the 6-0

:45:09. > :45:14.defence, and she seems to be holding her stomach as if she has taken a

:45:15. > :45:17.blow. The long pass, incredibly well placed, it's perfect, and it had to

:45:18. > :45:33.be. That was a fourth goal. Just got on

:45:34. > :45:39.the end of it. Incredible, isn't it? One-handed, then dropped it down

:45:40. > :45:47.with a bit of spin. Fourth goal from four shots, then Russia comeback

:45:48. > :45:56.immediately and get a goal. Bobrovnikova finishing that one off.

:45:57. > :45:59.Getting it passed Grimsbo. Rostov Donna worked tipped to win the

:46:00. > :46:03.Russian championship this season, but lost in the end. Finished fourth

:46:04. > :46:09.in the regular season but came through in the play-offs. Surprised

:46:10. > :46:18.everyone. At Christmas time they were mid-table. Shows the skill and

:46:19. > :46:25.the guile of the coach. Nicely done again, a lot of pressure, but that's

:46:26. > :46:33.what she likes,, she can soak it up all day. Links up with her two good

:46:34. > :46:39.friends. Just outside the area, under the keeper. That is what it

:46:40. > :46:50.means to Heidi in her second Olympic Games. 71% success rate for the

:46:51. > :46:55.Norwegians on their shooting. Leading by two but the Russians are

:46:56. > :47:05.still there or thereabouts. Drop Zidane catches it on her foot. They

:47:06. > :47:09.appear to be pushing up. Think she's going to slot back in. Up goes

:47:10. > :47:38.Kuznetsov. Again trying to make some space on

:47:39. > :47:46.the line. Loke plays in Hungary. She's latched onto, doesn't let go.

:47:47. > :47:52.Given a yellow card. As Loke tried to wriggle free. These shirts are

:47:53. > :47:58.made of some tough stuff. Past the halfway point, Norway 10-8 Russia in

:47:59. > :48:05.this Olympic semifinal. A long shot coming in, blocked, not quite. The

:48:06. > :48:10.counterattack. Nicely done by Loke, looked like Russia would sprint away

:48:11. > :48:16.with it, Loke rescued it, then found the back of the net. Her foot work

:48:17. > :48:26.is incredible, look at the sidestep. Then launches herself off the wrong

:48:27. > :48:30.foot. And right-handed. Those looking for the gap. Bobrovnikova

:48:31. > :48:38.hammers it in as everybody focused on the player coming in from the

:48:39. > :48:45.side. Norway 11-9 Russia. A good effort from Bobrovnikova into the

:48:46. > :49:01.top left of the goal. 20 goals in less than 70 minutes here, Mork to

:49:02. > :49:13.Loke, took a touch on a defender. There isn't over lap. Dmitriyeva.

:49:14. > :49:19.That was easy. Her fourth goal. Goes across. Herrem inside the area

:49:20. > :49:53.couldn't have done too much about this. Team time-out called.

:49:54. > :50:01.The team time-out comes to an end. A game that has seen a huge amount of

:50:02. > :50:05.fast breaks and phase two tax, when you are attacking against a team

:50:06. > :50:13.still falling in defence, trying to get organised. A lot of these

:50:14. > :50:17.attacks are very short bursts, very quick from both sides. With a

:50:18. > :50:24.measure of success clearly with 21 goals in 17 minutes. Not counting

:50:25. > :50:39.the fact we've also had nine saves by the combined efforts of

:50:40. > :50:45.Grimsbo... It's no way coming forward now. Played out of the wing.

:50:46. > :50:52.It is saved by Erokhina. The 31-year-old picks the ball back up

:50:53. > :50:57.again. She's been a real danger coming in off the left wing so far.

:50:58. > :51:01.Catching the legs of the Russian goalkeeper, giving Russia a chance

:51:02. > :51:10.to draw level in the match as they come forward with 18 minutes on the

:51:11. > :51:15.clock. Nice switch. They were focusing on the ball going across

:51:16. > :51:21.the court but Kuznetsov passes the ball and then follows it a few

:51:22. > :51:29.minutes later. They are not picking up, the winners, and running from

:51:30. > :51:40.this side. Second goal for Kuznetsova. Earlier it was Loke

:51:41. > :51:46.stranded on the wing, then she went past. Mork in the middle. This is

:51:47. > :51:52.quick play, one of the longer organised attacks by the Norwegians.

:51:53. > :51:59.We have an attacking foul called against Heidi Loke. The Russians not

:52:00. > :52:06.waiting around. The line player from Ross Dundon hammers it away. Norway

:52:07. > :52:09.were changing about four players. Against a team like Russia that is

:52:10. > :52:16.asking for trouble, opens up the defence. It's almost the old

:52:17. > :52:20.Hungarian style we saw many years ago, more than half the team would

:52:21. > :52:23.change and the Norwegians would be exploiting attacks up the wing

:52:24. > :52:31.knowing it was coming. They have to be careful because the Russians will

:52:32. > :52:34.continue exploiting it. You have two hope it was one of those blips where

:52:35. > :52:43.he asked for changes and they all came off at the same time.

:52:44. > :53:00.Ball from Mork. Norway 12-12 Russia. The teams are level. Mork high

:53:01. > :53:03.efficiency with her shooting, but today struggling a little. Three

:53:04. > :53:09.from six, as we see that foul earlier. Always willing to take

:53:10. > :53:13.players on one-on-one getting wrestled to the ground. Throwing her

:53:14. > :53:24.arms up, as if to say, what's the problem? On for Norway, Oftedal.

:53:25. > :53:32.Smashed it off the post from Cobra, Russia leading 13-12. They've come

:53:33. > :53:40.from behind to slightly edgy against Norway. They kept their heads, the

:53:41. > :53:44.Russians, even when the Norwegians opened up a small lead. They've been

:53:45. > :53:49.in a few sticky situations before, the Russians. Nice and calm. Plenty

:53:50. > :53:54.of choice on the bench to turn if any players aren't quite coping with

:53:55. > :53:57.it very well. That came off a defender, it's come off the

:53:58. > :54:05.goalkeeper on the last touch before crossing the backline. It's a

:54:06. > :54:15.goalkeeper throw. Bobrovnikova was racing for it. Very good reaction

:54:16. > :54:20.save from Erokhina. The shot came in from Arntzen. Now Dmitriyeva.

:54:21. > :54:29.Bobrovnikova tries to feed it in. The whistle goes. Two minute

:54:30. > :54:32.suspension. She's only just come on, Frafjord, she's the one with the

:54:33. > :54:37.ankle injury from the quarterfinal. Grabs the shirt. And goes down, you

:54:38. > :54:42.can see the ankle is heavily strapped. She hobbles off. It wasn't

:54:43. > :54:46.really worth putting her on, if she's injured, give her a couple of

:54:47. > :54:53.days extra recovery and hope the team will do the business. Arntzen

:54:54. > :55:01.capable of doing the defensive role if needed. Here come Norway, sorry,

:55:02. > :55:10.Russia. There is the long shot. Fired in. The strength of that shot

:55:11. > :55:13.from Dmitriyeva. Well, it's a success rate with some of the long

:55:14. > :55:24.range efforts catching up the Norwegian goalkeeper. At the moment

:55:25. > :55:34.the Russians seem to have the measure of her. Mork has her sleeves

:55:35. > :55:40.pulled up. If given a choice she would remove the sleeves.

:55:41. > :55:47.The line is so well covered by the Russians, they are so aware of the

:55:48. > :55:52.danger of Loke. Good plot, doing well trying to get the ball out.

:55:53. > :56:01.Mork almost happy to take it... They got the ball away. What a beautiful

:56:02. > :56:07.finish from Bobrovnikova. It was Sen that won it, drove it forward. The

:56:08. > :56:13.finish from Bobrovnikova was superb. Sen in, turning, and putting

:56:14. > :56:22.backspin on it to float it over the goalkeeper. Bobrovnikova scores

:56:23. > :56:31.against her club team-mate, Lunde, in goal. The Russians watching their

:56:32. > :56:34.team mate on court beating the Norwegians at their own game. Norway

:56:35. > :56:41.have so much experience, never write them off. Back inside, almost an

:56:42. > :56:46.attacking foul. Mork, you stand back, you pay the price. Norway

:56:47. > :56:51.backed up to their full component but two goals down now. Almost a

:56:52. > :56:58.slide tackle in there, wasn't there, as Mork found the bottom left of the

:56:59. > :57:04.net. Norway backed up to seven players. Mork for the side of the

:57:05. > :57:12.court as they bring on the defensive squad again. Bobrovnikova... They

:57:13. > :57:20.are teasing, but a second line player. Bliznova drops out again.

:57:21. > :57:28.It's all sideways at the moment, no one driving in. We've had a slip at

:57:29. > :57:33.the back. Bobrovnikova is the one who is in pain, we may have a

:57:34. > :57:37.suspension. Just confirming the referees have made the right

:57:38. > :57:43.decision. Trying to make a substitution. There it is. Sure it

:57:44. > :57:49.was entirely intentional by Loke, trying to get to the defender,

:57:50. > :58:02.catches Bobrovnikova. She's gone off for the time being. Teen time-out

:58:03. > :58:03.now. For Russia. -- team time-out. The suspended player, Heidi Loke,

:58:04. > :58:51.has gone off. I'm not being flippant here, but

:58:52. > :58:56.that was a reasonably calm coach. Extremely calm, as good as it gets,

:58:57. > :59:01.in full anger management mode. He is leading by two, they play a good

:59:02. > :59:05.fast game, defending well, Loke not getting a look at the ball, if you

:59:06. > :59:13.forgive the other pun, as I have to slip one in. So far so good for

:59:14. > :59:17.Russia. Reverses into the defender, she will get in earful. -- Takeshi

:59:18. > :59:29.will get an earful. We could see during the team

:59:30. > :59:34.time-out Bobrovnikova still rubbing her eye. The danger with a touch in

:59:35. > :59:41.the face is that you pick up some of the resin. The situation for Norway

:59:42. > :59:44.is that they have put a line player, Frafjord, as an attacker. She has

:59:45. > :59:53.been used predominantly as a defender, put into the frame now.

:59:54. > :00:06.Miss connection completely, that was meant for another player. The top

:00:07. > :00:14.Russian scorers are wing players. Kuznetsova. Two goals for her. And

:00:15. > :00:19.no goals for the other big hitter. A lot of the play is down the middle

:00:20. > :00:23.for Russia. Trying to open up gaps in the middle is, as they do again

:00:24. > :00:36.there. Courtesy of Dmitriyeva, who is having a very successful game.

:00:37. > :00:36.The winger chapters have been occasional, but they've taken

:00:37. > :00:41.them when they've had them. Lunde beaten by the shot by Dmitriyeva,

:00:42. > :00:51.Russia three goals to the good. And now here come Norway.

:00:52. > :01:00.That is going to be a penalty. They would normally play the whole match

:01:01. > :01:15.but they have to change one of the stars. There is Frafjord, but she

:01:16. > :01:19.did the business. Here comes more. She scores and bounces occurring.

:01:20. > :01:23.Norway 14, Russia 16, in four minutes to go. It has been a very

:01:24. > :01:42.fast paced and entertaining first half. Straightforward therefore

:01:43. > :01:49.Mork. Now Russia come forward. Kuznetsova crowds were centre there.

:01:50. > :01:58.It is a clumsy foul and Dmitriyeva goes down. Play has been stopped, I

:01:59. > :02:05.think there was a bit of mopping required on the ground. A very

:02:06. > :02:21.theatrical fall. I think she would fit in the Bolshoi Theatre! A foul

:02:22. > :02:30.it was. They switch around now. It goes straight through and she only

:02:31. > :02:42.gets a free throw. Vyakhireva sitting on the outside. She has been

:02:43. > :02:46.at successful with those up until now, Dmitriyeva, the quick

:02:47. > :02:59.snapshots, but that occasion it was way over the goal. Norway come

:03:00. > :03:02.forward and the penalty is given. Christiansen tried to drive-in. She

:03:03. > :03:29.was brought down. It comes Mork again, into the back

:03:30. > :03:33.of the net. Norway get the gap back to within one goal, with just two

:03:34. > :03:43.and a half minutes to go in the first half in this semifinal. 31

:03:44. > :03:47.goals now in this first half. Cheers for the Norwegian fans after that

:03:48. > :03:51.well taken penalty right in the corner. Two minutes to go, little

:03:52. > :03:58.crossover in a handoff, and that wasn't badly done. So much pressure.

:03:59. > :04:03.That is a free flow --. Every time the Norwegians make a block they

:04:04. > :04:11.have high-fives all around and really encourage each other. It is

:04:12. > :04:15.as good as a goal. That same position on Grimsbo has struggled

:04:16. > :04:18.with it as well. That position from standing has caught out the

:04:19. > :04:28.goalkeeper on several occasions in this game. Norway will want to be

:04:29. > :04:32.back at least within one goal or ideally drawing level, clearly, in

:04:33. > :04:40.the final. One minute left of this match. They have an extra line

:04:41. > :04:55.player in. They are trying to create a corridor down the middle. Oftedal

:04:56. > :05:06.scores. They created a corridor right between the goalkeeper 's

:05:07. > :05:22.ankles. Straight down the middle. Of the leading scorers Mork has picked

:05:23. > :05:33.up 64 Norway. Finished off by Grimsbo.

:05:34. > :05:39.Bobrovnikova was once again instrumental in sacking in the

:05:40. > :05:44.defence. 21 seconds to go. The Russians look to give away three

:05:45. > :05:49.follows -- free throws if necessary. That will be a free throw but they

:05:50. > :05:53.won't have time to take it. The Russians stand in Britain to close

:05:54. > :06:02.so the referee will have two wave them off and the Norwegians will

:06:03. > :06:07.take the time now to take a free throw and MOrk steps up. She is not

:06:08. > :06:11.the tallest player. I wonder if she was trying to hit the camera at the

:06:12. > :06:16.back that it failed. That as the half-time break and for the Russians

:06:17. > :06:21.the tactics are working. That man has guided his team to a two goal

:06:22. > :06:25.advantage at the break. It has been a very entertaining and fast paced

:06:26. > :06:29.first half in this Olympic semifinal. Discussions are starting

:06:30. > :06:36.already for the Norwegians and they have to find a way back. At

:06:37. > :06:43.half-time it is 18-16 to Russia. We shall be back with Paul and Jack for

:06:44. > :06:49.the second half of that. We are on air on BBC for all the way through

:06:50. > :06:53.until 2am. I am sorry to disappoint so many of you tonight to keep

:06:54. > :07:02.asking where Antony Worrall Thompson is, some of you are using a hash tag

:07:03. > :07:07.AWT. You can see for yourself, there is nothing here tonight. Normally be

:07:08. > :07:11.on the shrubbery we have circuit trainers. Nine nights on the trot al

:07:12. > :07:15.Antony Worrall Thompson lookalike has been there but tonight, I doubt

:07:16. > :07:20.that they are fed up with being looked at every evening, nothing.

:07:21. > :07:25.Just two kids scurrying across the sands down towards the beach. I feel

:07:26. > :07:30.slightly lonely without them. I like to see people dragging stuff around

:07:31. > :07:34.the beach and I like to see him doing the soft-shoe shuffle across

:07:35. > :07:39.the sand. Maybe he's back home in the UK launching a new menu in his

:07:40. > :07:44.restaurant, who knows? We will get to the bottom of it. We have two

:07:45. > :07:50.more nights down here on Copacabana Beach on BBC Four. It would feel

:07:51. > :07:55.wrong not to sign off without him. We hope Maria and her fiance will be

:07:56. > :08:04.back on Friday night. We have had her mum and her dad stop we will

:08:05. > :08:11.definitely have the Copaca- binmen, they like waving every night. We

:08:12. > :08:18.have not had it about because they do not sell them on the beach after

:08:19. > :08:22.dark. A lot of people have asked why there have been so many people on

:08:23. > :08:26.the beach today, there is a bank holiday today on Rio de Janeiro. If

:08:27. > :08:31.you'll be wondering whether beach has been packed on Thursday, it is

:08:32. > :08:35.because it is bank holiday and the first two days of the games they

:08:36. > :08:40.were public holidays in Rio as well which was why it was so busy at the

:08:41. > :08:44.start of the games. Ben Clarke says handball is a cracking sport and he

:08:45. > :08:47.gave it a go after 2012 and it wasn't any good because throwing and

:08:48. > :08:54.jumping at the same time was too much. We really appreciate your

:08:55. > :09:03.texts and tweets. The hashed tag to use is #bbcrio2016. You know all the

:09:04. > :09:16.hash tag that we like. Copaca- binmen, Copaca- banter. It is early

:09:17. > :09:26.morning down in the UK. I know you enjoy staying with us until 2am.

:09:27. > :09:32.Jade Jones fights... She fights in the final, if she's there, at 2am on

:09:33. > :09:42.BBC One. We will show you her semifinal now. She was one of the

:09:43. > :09:49.real stars of the London games. The winner of this goes through to the

:09:50. > :10:04.gold medal match. Coming in now on the 21 year from Malmo. She is most

:10:05. > :10:06.recently the blondes medallist at the European games, Nikita

:10:07. > :10:15.Glasnovic. Her father is in the crowd. -- bronze medallist. There is

:10:16. > :10:24.great support here for Jade Jones, the fighter from Flint in Wales. She

:10:25. > :10:30.looks so composed and ready. Our coach is leading the 23 old

:10:31. > :10:34.interposition, and what position this is. She looks really cool and

:10:35. > :10:38.calm and collected and she knows what she has to do. She is the

:10:39. > :10:46.defending champion and she will get the job down. How nice is that? She

:10:47. > :10:52.shows absolute respect their for her opponent and right away across there

:10:53. > :10:57.before the contest begins. Professional etiquette and respect.

:10:58. > :11:05.It will give way to a fierce battle here. Nikita Glasnovic going against

:11:06. > :11:21.Jade Jones of Great Britain. Alvares, from Venezuelan, is the man

:11:22. > :11:26.in the middle. This is the semifinals, a big win here and you

:11:27. > :11:33.can guess what will happen after that. Gold and silver on the

:11:34. > :11:41.horizon. We are at the Carioca Arena one number three, downtown Rio. A

:11:42. > :11:46.big crowd, big occasion. Six minutes to decide it. Glasnovic comes

:11:47. > :11:52.forward and uses the Bush kick. Jones responds and very aggressive.

:11:53. > :12:04.A great push kick in response. She came forward straightaway. Both of

:12:05. > :12:08.them are coming forward. Jones avoids Glasnovic 's reach. She tries

:12:09. > :12:17.to flick one out of her own. This is a battle for territory. They are

:12:18. > :12:22.looking for the space. A Punch and kick from Jones there on the way

:12:23. > :12:27.through but no purchase on it. Glasnovic is likely the taller of

:12:28. > :12:32.the two and the strength advantage you would fancy for Jones. She tries

:12:33. > :12:37.to flick one upstairs. Three points for a head kick, one for a straight

:12:38. > :12:40.shot to the body. If you can spin you get extra points. At the moment

:12:41. > :12:46.it is the referee who separates them. It has been an excellent

:12:47. > :12:50.opening first minute. Yes, they have been feeling each other out but good

:12:51. > :12:53.defence from both, as well as attack, which is a great thing to

:12:54. > :13:01.say, but they are both great athletes.

:13:02. > :13:09.The Great Britain contingent in the crowd are trying to cheer forward

:13:10. > :13:13.Jade Jones. She shipped back though. A Welsh warrior going forward with

:13:14. > :13:18.that front leg push kick. Taekwondo is all about optimal distance.

:13:19. > :13:22.Everyone's legs are different length than they like to fight at a

:13:23. > :13:28.different range but when you find a space, you have to go for it. Going

:13:29. > :13:32.for the head again, Jade Jones, she gets the body though, simple Bush

:13:33. > :13:36.kick. Nikita Glasnovic with 20 seconds left now, the Swede is going

:13:37. > :13:44.to have to think about their tactics. Shut up shop or go for it.

:13:45. > :13:48.A good shot again from Jones, getting closer to the head.

:13:49. > :13:54.Glasnovic within a bit of trouble and she will be glad to hear the

:13:55. > :13:56.buzz here. She changed feet there with that turning kick, Jade Jones,

:13:57. > :14:13.but a great start for her. We try to have a sneaky lesson to

:14:14. > :14:17.the coaches there but a stalemate and Jade Jones finding that little

:14:18. > :14:22.bit of accuracy. That is what it is all about. The whole game is about

:14:23. > :14:23.the accuracy and obviously it is about space as well, closing the

:14:24. > :14:38.space at the right time. Speaking of time, it is ticking away

:14:39. > :14:47.now. Both fighters have last-minute bits of rest. The Welsh contingent

:14:48. > :14:53.in the crowd. Paul Green, the coach, himself an Olympian back in Athens,

:14:54. > :14:58.but this is the Rio Olympic Games. Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden one point

:14:59. > :15:08.down against Jade Jones. The Swede trying to come forward, good defence

:15:09. > :15:15.from Jones. That push kick is just so effective there from Jade Jones.

:15:16. > :15:20.She tries again as you say from the back kick. The Swede is resolute and

:15:21. > :15:26.hanging on in there, just a 1-point game. Change that, it's a 2-point

:15:27. > :15:29.game. It changes so quickly. It is a crumb of comfort for Jones.

:15:30. > :15:53.Difficult for Glasnovic now. Great combinations as well. Well

:15:54. > :16:09.blocked by Glasnovic. Jade Jones, ever focused. That is a gift of a

:16:10. > :16:22.point. That is one of the biggest things, she is so focused.

:16:23. > :16:39.Found an open door, the Swede. Found the face of the Flint fighter.

:16:40. > :16:46.She committed, but let herself open for that, didn't she? Credit to the

:16:47. > :16:50.Swede on that one. Glasnovic turns defence into attack. It was a

:16:51. > :17:06.1-point game at the end of the first round. There is a kyong go against

:17:07. > :17:13.the Swede. Jade Jones has a 1-point lead. Neil Adams, Olympian yourself,

:17:14. > :17:18.silver medallist yourself, you know what it is like trying to get into

:17:19. > :17:24.the final. Absolutely. It is one of the hardest things in the world. You

:17:25. > :17:31.know you have everything resting on this. I don't know what her coach

:17:32. > :17:38.will say to her, but for me, we have seen so many that have been lost in

:17:39. > :17:48.the last two minutes. So she has to keep focused, keep her head in the

:17:49. > :17:58.game. Glasnovic has been focused as well, the Swede very much involved.

:17:59. > :18:02.The 21-year-old from Malmo has excellent pedigree coming into this,

:18:03. > :18:12.Nikita Glasnovic just one point down against Jade Jones. An excellent

:18:13. > :18:28.push kick from Jade Jones, a good start. Jones beginning to get

:18:29. > :18:36.dominance here. It is not just accurate, it has power as well.

:18:37. > :18:45.Fantastic stuff from Jones. She gets another three points. Look at this,

:18:46. > :18:53.really going to work. She turns defence into attack. They don't had

:18:54. > :19:02.a look at her corner, looking for a potential head shot, but her coach

:19:03. > :19:09.thought better of it. Nikita Glasnovic, from Sweden. We have seen

:19:10. > :19:19.her flexibility. Does she have the variety? Jade Jones, excellent

:19:20. > :19:24.strength keeping the at bay. That is what she has to think about now,

:19:25. > :19:36.defence rather than going forward. When she got scored against, she was

:19:37. > :19:49.going forwards. Well defended by Jones. High drama in downtown Rio,

:19:50. > :19:55.gold medals at stake. Can't afford to go outside the area. She needs to

:19:56. > :20:11.stand her ground. She has got good defence, just use it now. Glasnovic

:20:12. > :20:16.looks exhausted. Jade Jones defending resolutely, a formidable

:20:17. > :20:28.force, the fighter from Flint. It is all about timing, using the push

:20:29. > :20:34.kick to keep her at bay. Nikita Glasnovic on the attack, trying to

:20:35. > :20:39.go forward, Jade Jones using her footwork. She will take a kyong-go.

:20:40. > :20:44.It will be a 5-point game now. Jones avoids the headshot. She knows she

:20:45. > :20:51.has one foot in the Olympic final, one foot on the edge of the ring.

:20:52. > :20:54.The crowd are up for this one. Takes the kyong-go. The referee almost

:20:55. > :21:07.takes one in the head from Glasnovic. Can Jade Jones defend her

:21:08. > :21:10.title? She is in the final, her second consecutive Olympic final.

:21:11. > :21:17.The British in the crowd go absolutely mad. Great support out

:21:18. > :21:27.there. That was amazing. Jade Jones, going for her second Olympic title.

:21:28. > :21:31.Well done to Jade Jones, who is into the gold medal match. That will take

:21:32. > :21:36.place at two o'clock, your time, in about 40 minutes on BBC One. And

:21:37. > :21:40.there will be Usain Bolt as well. A bit of this coming up for you later.

:21:41. > :21:44.We promised a bit of synchronised swimming. Have a look at this. This

:21:45. > :21:54.is the Russian Federation, eight of them in total. Actually, nine. Some

:21:55. > :22:00.real shoulder shuffle there. The whole routine is coming up later.

:22:01. > :22:04.And there they are evening, boys! The Copacabinmen have gone past,

:22:05. > :22:10.life. It is like we timed it perfectly. They have done their job,

:22:11. > :22:14.all four kilometres on the beach, and they are on their way home.

:22:15. > :22:18.Always lovely to get the Copacabinmen on life. I know some

:22:19. > :22:23.people missed it and were devastated earlier, so hopefully you were

:22:24. > :22:25.watching. We will show you the fall Russian citrus swimming routine

:22:26. > :22:31.before we leave at two o'clock. We would go back to the handball,

:22:32. > :22:33.because Russia are playing Norway. We rejoin it in the second half. It

:22:34. > :22:57.is tight, two goals in it. COMMENTATOR: A minute and a half

:22:58. > :23:10.gone in this 30 minute second half. Won by Norway. It is fired over, but

:23:11. > :23:25.the foul given. Kurtovic was fouled. A very good steel. As Kurtovic tried

:23:26. > :23:30.to go up, she is bundled over. She gets a push in the back, and that is

:23:31. > :23:43.given a penalty. Not only that, but for the earlier foul. Norway are

:23:44. > :24:05.back to within a goal. Now they will have a player advantage. Now Norway

:24:06. > :24:06.have seven players, Russia with six. That will be a

:24:07. > :24:49.That came through between two defenders. Norway need to take

:24:50. > :24:56.advantage of this. They have drawn level. It was Kurtovic, the half

:24:57. > :25:04.Croatian, half Swedish player. But she says her heart is Norwegian.

:25:05. > :25:09.Finds the back of the net. She is one of six players who played for

:25:10. > :25:16.the Norwegian champions. Had a good season with them, 96 goals scored

:25:17. > :25:23.and 55 in the Champions League. The Norwegians press forward. Lovely!

:25:24. > :25:30.But unfortunately, not enough application. Grimsbo still had tears

:25:31. > :25:36.in her eyes from that last one. Ouch! Came off her hands and smacked

:25:37. > :25:46.her in the face. An occupational hazard for goalkeepers, but it never

:25:47. > :25:51.makes it easier. 19-19. Christiansen was unlucky with that shot a moment

:25:52. > :26:15.ago that was said and then bounced off the post.

:26:16. > :26:45.That was almost an attacking foul. A stare at the referees. After Dell

:26:46. > :26:58.comes back to take the free throw. -- Oftedal. A bit of mopping to do,

:26:59. > :27:06.which has delayed the start, giving the Norwegian fans a chance to start

:27:07. > :27:08.singing. An attacking foul. She says they were inside the area, but the

:27:09. > :27:29.referees don't agree. And they slap in the face. Mork may

:27:30. > :27:35.be in trouble. It is a second time, almost a carbon copy of the last

:27:36. > :27:41.suspension. Catching the same player in the face. She is going to have to

:27:42. > :27:51.watch herself now. One more, and it will be a red card. Two fairly

:27:52. > :27:57.accidental and innocuous moments. Another, and that would be quite a

:27:58. > :28:08.way to get sent off. Anna Sen finds the back of the net. Both Oftedal

:28:09. > :28:18.and Christian tried to grab the ball, but it came to Anna Sen. Anna

:28:19. > :28:24.Sen had spell at the club where plays. Didn't last all that long in

:28:25. > :28:25.the end, and went back to Russia. So while they are short-handed, Norway

:28:26. > :28:40.take out their goalkeeper. It is a throw-in. But still, the

:28:41. > :29:10.passive play signal lasts. The goalkeeper was still coming

:29:11. > :29:15.back. If Russia had spotted that, they would have had an empty net,

:29:16. > :29:21.but they didn't. The whistle has gone anyway for a Russian

:29:22. > :29:25.free-throw. As you say, Cal Green could have done it. This is the

:29:26. > :29:33.first tournament where this new rule has been used. Teams are still

:29:34. > :29:37.getting used to it. We have seen quite a few where you are almost

:29:38. > :29:42.shutting down the microphone, there is no goalkeeper! But sometimes they

:29:43. > :29:43.like to move the board because they are worried about missing the long

:29:44. > :29:58.shot. Two on the line now for Russia.

:29:59. > :30:03.Bobridge -- Bobridge Hope goes through with her seventh goal of the

:30:04. > :30:09.game. They are increasing their lead -- Bobrovnikova. A good game for

:30:10. > :30:14.Bobrovnikova, who only had 19 goals coming into this match. So to get

:30:15. > :30:38.seven in this one is impressive stuff.

:30:39. > :30:43.Norway are back to strength again and have put in a second-line

:30:44. > :30:50.player. That clumsy challenge just caught a face, and look what

:30:51. > :30:57.happened. Play resumes, and the winger tries again. Back around

:30:58. > :31:07.comes Camilla Herrem. There is a lot of movement on the defence. That is

:31:08. > :31:13.a penalty. Somehow smuggled in to Heidi Loke and they have been

:31:14. > :31:22.working so hard to starve her balls. Her arm was taken above Vyakhireva.

:31:23. > :31:26.Vyakhireva was in the area as well so pick or choose what you want to

:31:27. > :31:37.give the penalty therefore. Nora Mork misses it. It comes back again,

:31:38. > :31:39.and it is in. It looked as though Victoria Kalinina had made a

:31:40. > :31:48.tremendous double say but she just couldn't keep the second one out.

:31:49. > :31:56.The keeper does superbly well and, just on the leg the second time, how

:31:57. > :31:59.unlucky. She has clearly impressed, Victoria Kalinina, because she has

:32:00. > :32:08.been signed by the Russian coach to go to his club. That is bounced

:32:09. > :32:12.under the keeper. Victoria Kalinina, as she tried to get up quickly, she

:32:13. > :32:17.stumbled back down. Whether that has injured her or not or it was just a

:32:18. > :32:32.little trip and she will be fine? It was a weak pass from the

:32:33. > :32:40.Bobrovnikova -- Bobrovnikova. We cut away from seeing Victoria Kalinina

:32:41. > :32:47.getup. A mistake by Stine Bredal Oftedal. The Russian fans are

:32:48. > :32:51.absolutely delighted with that. She gets up and the push by Camilla

:32:52. > :33:05.Herrem sees her sent off for a two-minute suspension. There it is.

:33:06. > :33:11.One goal in it and it is a chance for Victoria Zhilinskayte to put

:33:12. > :33:15.Russia two goals to the good. Katrine Lunde has been brought into

:33:16. > :33:19.the goal and she says it! What a good start that was, going down to

:33:20. > :33:25.your left, right in the bottom corner. She makes the save. The

:33:26. > :33:36.third save from three penalties for Katrine Lunde. I wouldn't want to be

:33:37. > :33:44.in the changing room with the coach after that but she is not the only

:33:45. > :33:48.one, the others also Mr penalties. Norway are down to six players but

:33:49. > :33:57.they are on the attacker may have the chance to pull level. Not quite

:33:58. > :34:07.enough room for Amanda Kurtovic. That is a penalty and a two-minute

:34:08. > :34:12.suspension. A two-minute suspension. Standing behind on Heidi Loke and

:34:13. > :34:18.Heidi Loke turns and from then on she was in trouble because she was

:34:19. > :34:23.not letting go. Nora Mork was as ever the provider. It must be a

:34:24. > :34:27.staggering statistic about how many passes she has made. Veronica

:34:28. > :34:32.Kristiansen Krauthammer hammers it away. No mistake there, and Norway

:34:33. > :34:37.are level ten minutes into the second half. She thought it was

:34:38. > :34:48.going low and it went over the shoulder. A great reaction from

:34:49. > :34:52.Veronica Kristiansen. Her first seven metre throw and it is another

:34:53. > :35:01.good save but the whistle has gone. Two minutes here and it is going to

:35:02. > :35:09.be for Ida Alstad for pushing Dmitri Ava. It was just on these small of

:35:10. > :35:18.the back. You just wonder why they do it. In a way it is almost, I

:35:19. > :35:22.couldn't resist it, she is in the air and you know it will be a

:35:23. > :35:29.two-minute suspension and a penalty but don't count your chickens yet

:35:30. > :35:32.but Katrine Lunde has saved all of the penalties so far. It is

:35:33. > :35:38.Vyakhireva who was going to take this one. Oh! I thought she had her

:35:39. > :35:45.hands on in there. It still goes into the roof of the net. The goal

:35:46. > :35:51.score by Vyakhireva. 22-23 to Russia. She launched herself and she

:35:52. > :35:53.just got her fingers on it. The relief of Vyakhireva palpable

:35:54. > :35:59.because she missed the last one and missing two been unthinkable. Russia

:36:00. > :36:02.are one player short and Norway have a double suspension. They have been

:36:03. > :36:08.coming thick and fast here with the Slovenian referees. Nora Mork to

:36:09. > :36:17.Veronica Kristiansen. She should have gone around the block -- Matt

:36:18. > :36:22.Wing. They put the block on. Russia break, and it's a breathless spell

:36:23. > :36:27.here, end to end. The Norwegians have one of their suspended players

:36:28. > :36:31.back now. Kari Aalvik Grimsbo had gone off and only just made it back

:36:32. > :36:40.into the goal by the time the Russians arrived. Married mum

:36:41. > :36:45.flat-footed delayed coming back on but the Russians saw her on with a

:36:46. > :36:53.bit of shouting from the bench. A free throw for Vyakhireva. A foul by

:36:54. > :37:05.Veronica Kristiansen. Vyakhireva is so industrious. That is clever. She

:37:06. > :37:09.finds her sister on the far side and nothing doing there. It is a passive

:37:10. > :37:14.play call now. That might have been the second and given the first pass.

:37:15. > :37:19.You are only allowed six after of the arm goes up. That was a foul

:37:20. > :37:35.which takes out the Russian and also a team-mate. The domino effect.

:37:36. > :37:44.Right in the corner! That was not even a particularly quick short, it

:37:45. > :37:50.was just very well-placed. Fired him by Dario Dmitri Ava, not even a real

:37:51. > :37:54.gap appearing in front of her but she just positioned perfectly and

:37:55. > :38:01.both sides are now back up to seven players. There comes Heidi Loke back

:38:02. > :38:11.onto the court as Norway trying come forward and they are two goals down

:38:12. > :38:16.again. Oh, that is saved. A very good save again, that combination of

:38:17. > :38:21.Nora Mork to Heidi Loke. She it away again. She is waiting to plug the

:38:22. > :38:27.gap and the Russians on weight -- waiting. Vyakhireva but an equally

:38:28. > :38:34.fine save. A throw taken and it was an excellent reaction. Things settle

:38:35. > :38:38.down. 13 minutes played in the second half. Norway keep wrestling

:38:39. > :38:45.themselves back to level an Russia find a couple of goals and extend

:38:46. > :38:51.the margin again. Norway have not recently managed to get back in

:38:52. > :38:55.front. Heidi Loke shoots and schools. Norway are back within a

:38:56. > :39:00.goal. That is the strength that Heidi Loke has, turning on the edge

:39:01. > :39:05.of the six metre and she grabs it with her left and no matter what

:39:06. > :39:11.Dmitriyeva tries to do she was strong enough to turn and pop it

:39:12. > :39:23.underneath Victoria Kalinina. 23-24, Russia lead. Bliss in overcoming

:39:24. > :39:31.end. That was meant for the line. -- Irina Bliznova. There was always one

:39:32. > :39:35.player waiting at the back just in case and it was Veronica Kristiansen

:39:36. > :39:39.there. Nora Mork says they should get themselves organised again so

:39:40. > :39:47.they take their time and back into the medal and Victoria Kristiansen,

:39:48. > :39:52.who is increasingly used as a centre but was left back in the World

:39:53. > :39:55.Championships last year, and that is a penalty. Heidi Loke is starting to

:39:56. > :40:00.find the space at the back and maybe the defence is getting a bit tired

:40:01. > :40:04.as the game goes on. It is hard work forging backwards and trying to

:40:05. > :40:11.cover the line and up and Ekaterina Ilina wrestles her from behind,

:40:12. > :40:16.pulling on the shirt all the way. It is a two-minute suspension for

:40:17. > :40:36.Ekaterina Ilina on the back of this file. She is on the bench. Saved!

:40:37. > :40:43.She lifts her leg one way and she was trying to put it down next to

:40:44. > :40:49.the standing leg but she gets it instead. That was Norway chance to

:40:50. > :40:53.get back on level terms. Six points from eight penalties and only one

:40:54. > :41:00.from four. That was or was going to be bundled over there. Bobrovnikova

:41:01. > :41:06.by a series of players. A little bit of pain. He is well you might be

:41:07. > :41:11.after having been thrown around. She took an elbow in the face as she

:41:12. > :41:15.came through the second time. She really has been in the wars, poor

:41:16. > :41:20.old Bobrovnikova, being manhandled all the way by the defence, and the

:41:21. > :41:25.Russians have been defending so hard. That is a good save. A chance

:41:26. > :41:29.now on the right wing. She was three and they missed it. The Norwegians

:41:30. > :41:33.are becoming a little bit too cautious now. Maybe worried about

:41:34. > :41:40.the speed at which the Russians are falling back. So far so good but

:41:41. > :41:45.they are not winning the ball up quick enough. There was acres of

:41:46. > :41:51.space and she tried to sprint away. Nora Mork scores. Norway are back

:41:52. > :41:59.level with 24-24 and 40 minutes to go and we're into the final quarter

:42:00. > :42:07.of this semifinal. A tenth goal coming in there for Nora Mork, what

:42:08. > :42:13.a game. A reaction on the bench from Camilla Herrem. What a trooper she

:42:14. > :42:19.is! She races off and married mum front foot is back in defence. They

:42:20. > :42:27.are holding up the centre of the defence. Russia are now back at full

:42:28. > :42:39.strength. They two-minute suspension ends.

:42:40. > :42:44.Steamboat a lot of dollars depending on the far side and she left the

:42:45. > :42:48.door open, she was nowhere near the winger. The Russians haven't moved

:42:49. > :42:50.the ball into the wing too often but that was a true gift. Look how far

:42:51. > :43:02.out the defender is. Russia take the one goal advantage

:43:03. > :43:07.again and you feel this is going to go down to one goal in about 13

:43:08. > :43:14.minutes time. It is going to be fascinating because neither of these

:43:15. > :43:26.sides can really break away. Nora Mork lays it in and it to MLA. Two

:43:27. > :43:29.players on the line. Victoria Kalinina hurtles out of our goal to

:43:30. > :43:35.close down the angle and now Russia have the chance to go two goals up.

:43:36. > :43:41.Irina Bliznova finds the back of the net. It all started from that really

:43:42. > :43:47.good save from Victoria Kalinina. The Russians are certainly moving

:43:48. > :43:50.the ball up neatly in attack. This is the new Russian style and it's

:43:51. > :43:58.working very well indeed at countering the Norwegians here. Nora

:43:59. > :44:02.Mork has a two-minute suspension. I personally didn't quite spot what it

:44:03. > :44:11.was for but she is sat at the side of the court. She was obviously the

:44:12. > :44:18.player that put the shelf on Irina Bliznova. It is not her. It must've

:44:19. > :44:22.been an earlier incident at the Slovenians spotted and saved it to

:44:23. > :44:28.let the Russians have the play advantage. Meanwhile the brief

:44:29. > :44:33.experiment of bringing Emilie Hegh Arntzen into the attack has barely

:44:34. > :44:39.lasted two minutes as Veronica Kristiansen resumes now. That is an

:44:40. > :44:44.attacking foul, is it? No. Irina Bliznova indicates that she thinks

:44:45. > :44:46.it should have been. They have a free throw and while they are

:44:47. > :44:48.short-handed they've taken at the goalkeeper. Here is Victoria

:44:49. > :45:11.Kalinina. Norway resumed the attack. Victoria

:45:12. > :45:16.Kristiansen looks for the line. This time it is well covered by Petrova.

:45:17. > :45:21.Passive play being warned by the referee. Six blouses, they don't

:45:22. > :45:25.wait that long. The Norwegians are back quickly because Victoria

:45:26. > :45:28.Kalinina was looking for a long pass which wasn't there. She has tried to

:45:29. > :45:38.catch the Norwegians. Go straight to the wing and Kuznetsova again!

:45:39. > :45:48.Terrific performance by her, four from four for the Russian winger.

:45:49. > :46:52.Norway now trail by three. A pensive face from Grimsbo, the

:46:53. > :46:57.keeper for Norway. Her side are three goals down. As it stands,

:46:58. > :47:01.Russia would go through to the Olympic final, but we still have 11

:47:02. > :47:13.minutes remaining and a lot of handball to be played.

:47:14. > :47:19.It is not the well oiled machine we are used to from Norway. The Russian

:47:20. > :47:24.defence must take a huge amount of credit for that. They have put them

:47:25. > :47:38.under a lot of pressure. The two Norwegians got in each other's way.

:47:39. > :47:49.It was Sudakova. Again, a weak effort. Either way, the result is

:47:50. > :47:55.the right one for the Norwegians to get the ball back. If they can get a

:47:56. > :48:11.few long-range efforts, it might pull the defence out. Heidi Loke has

:48:12. > :48:15.done her job. Another goal for Veronica Kristiansen, making her

:48:16. > :48:20.Olympic debut. She was part of the World Cup team in 2013 and 2015, or

:48:21. > :48:31.World Championship team, I should say. This is a chance for Norway to

:48:32. > :48:36.come back. Grimsbo with the stop. That should have gone in. That was a

:48:37. > :48:39.decent angle as well. Dmitriyeva was beaten. It was more of a mess than a

:48:40. > :49:00.save, but Grimsbo will get it. Two minute suspension for

:49:01. > :49:06.Dmitriyeva. Russia will be down to six players for the next two

:49:07. > :49:12.minutes. You can see the file again here. She is going to have to watch

:49:13. > :49:15.herself, it is the second suspension for the number seven. Iloka got

:49:16. > :49:18.ahead of her. She lunges desperately and pulls her down -- Heidi Loke got

:49:19. > :49:43.ahead. Through the legs of the keeper! Some

:49:44. > :49:47.relief for Thorir Hergeirsson. The goalkeeper pulled a long way out,

:49:48. > :49:53.and then she drops it under the 26-year-old. The Russians come back

:49:54. > :50:14.short-handed. The winners are so quick in the

:50:15. > :50:21.middle. In fairness, the Norwegian defence is quick. But still, there

:50:22. > :50:30.have been so many opportunities and they are still not bawling -- moving

:50:31. > :50:33.the ball out of the wing. It is a weak shot. Now Norway have the

:50:34. > :50:45.chance to try and draw themselves level. Mork dives in and scores! A

:50:46. > :50:51.great goal by Mork but what a great reaction by Oftedal, who nearly gave

:50:52. > :50:57.away an attacking foul but somehow managed to spin off the defender,

:50:58. > :51:01.drives up and makes the pass. It is all square again. So just as it

:51:02. > :51:05.looked like it might be slipping away from Norway, they were three

:51:06. > :51:10.goals down a couple of moments ago, they have managed to bring it back

:51:11. > :51:14.to 27-27. Now the atmosphere is really starting to rise because we

:51:15. > :51:24.have just over seven minutes to go in this Olympic semifinal. Time-out

:51:25. > :51:29.called, Russia with one second before they are back up to full

:51:30. > :51:31.strength. Russia have called the team time-out, Trefilov possibly a

:51:32. > :52:17.little less calm now. The body language to me suggested,

:52:18. > :52:23.thick and calm down. Absolutely, long attack. Don't rush it. Time is

:52:24. > :52:27.on our side. The Russians are now feeling on the back foot. They have

:52:28. > :52:31.surrendered the lead. Trefilov was remarkably restrained in that team

:52:32. > :52:35.time-out, maybe realising that sometimes, you have two not sound

:52:36. > :52:43.like you are in a panicked state yourself. Ilina has now come into

:52:44. > :52:51.the frame. She is a quick player with a good eye for the line.

:52:52. > :53:00.Bobrovnikova has been battered black and blue in this match. The

:53:01. > :53:20.Norwegians are coming back very quickly.

:53:21. > :53:25.Dmitri Ava lunges on to luck, off the post and it has calf again --

:53:26. > :53:43.Dmitri Ava. Fouled by all started. And the cry

:53:44. > :53:47.is coming from Trefilov. When you are commentating with the headphones

:53:48. > :53:51.on, you can't quite hear him, but I have watched some of the games

:53:52. > :53:55.Russia have played in the general seats here, and he is such an

:53:56. > :54:00.interesting person to watch on the wing. What a good save that was. I

:54:01. > :54:31.think Grimsbo got a touch on to that and piloted it around the post.

:54:32. > :54:36.Norway are missing the right back who was injured just before coming

:54:37. > :54:40.out here, double gold medal winner with them. It would have given them

:54:41. > :54:44.more options, because they are not changing players at the back at the

:54:45. > :54:49.moment as we see this incident again. The Russians are hoping for

:54:50. > :54:55.an attacking foul, but it's not. These three players have done a huge

:54:56. > :54:58.workload for Norway. And this is a towering match at the pace it is

:54:59. > :55:04.played. We go into the last five minutes. Tipped over the bar by

:55:05. > :55:14.Kalinina, the 27-year-old keeper reacting well to Kristiansen. That

:55:15. > :55:21.was really good because I think it got a deflection on the way through

:55:22. > :55:36.from Dmitriyeva. Just kissing the fingers! Russia are desperate to

:55:37. > :55:40.extend their lead. Penalty given. Once again, it was Bobrovnikova

:55:41. > :55:48.trying to drive in an almost score a neat over the head flick. But it

:55:49. > :55:54.looked as though Norway got intercepted. Now a chance for Russia

:55:55. > :55:59.to extend their lead. On comes the specialist, Katrine Lunde, who has

:56:00. > :56:12.had such a good performance in goal so far. Oh, missed another one! They

:56:13. > :56:22.are going to look back on this at how many penalties they have missed.

:56:23. > :56:25.If this comes down to the wire, some of the players will be in for a bit

:56:26. > :56:29.of an inquest over their penalty shooting. Maybe a few extra hours of

:56:30. > :56:34.practice in the early hours of tomorrow morning with Trefilov. They

:56:35. > :56:47.have missed four of their five efforts.

:56:48. > :56:57.Mork was fouled by Petra. -- Petrova.

:56:58. > :57:06.The Russians are defending really strongly. And it is fired in by

:57:07. > :57:10.Kurtovic! The Norwegian fans are on their feet, ringing the bells,

:57:11. > :57:17.because their side have pulled level.

:57:18. > :57:36.Three minutes to go. You could see the reaction on the far side. Yes!

:57:37. > :57:51.And again, they edged back in front, Petrova.

:57:52. > :57:58.It feels like the pace of the game has dropped. Whether that is nerves

:57:59. > :58:05.or fatigue. There must be a certain amount of fatigue. That is going to

:58:06. > :58:21.be a penalty. He can't give her the goal. Again, it looked like an

:58:22. > :58:29.attacking foul. Oftedal goes on into Dmitriyeva and that has to be a

:58:30. > :58:38.penalty. Kalinina stays in. She has saved one from three so far. Nora

:58:39. > :58:47.Mork comes up. Fires at low into the bottom left, and Norway are level

:58:48. > :58:51.once more. 29-29. Nerves of steel at that point of the game, because with

:58:52. > :58:55.two minutes to go, every chance missed now feels like it could be

:58:56. > :59:01.the telling moment. Team time-out called by Russia, the last one of

:59:02. > :59:02.the game. Trefilov, as he does sometimes, walks a long way on court

:59:03. > :59:42.to do it. Look how long some of these players

:59:43. > :59:48.hang in the air before they go to shoot. That was Sanna Solberg,

:59:49. > :59:57.getting herself off the mark. And the legs of Kalinina. Her ninth goal

:59:58. > :00:06.of the tournament. Great shots, these. It shows to what extent it is

:00:07. > :00:13.a cat and mouse game. 100 seconds to go in the Olympic semifinal, in

:00:14. > :00:22.normal time, anyway. It is 29-29. Russia, 30! Russia are first to take

:00:23. > :00:26.the advantage. In this scenario, they have got the advantage because

:00:27. > :00:39.they are always the one going a goal ahead, and it is Norway who are

:00:40. > :00:43.having to try and pull back level. If it is tied at the end of normal

:00:44. > :00:49.time, it will be extra time for these teams, and that is what the

:00:50. > :00:54.Norwegians are going for. No requirement on the keeper to pass

:00:55. > :01:00.the ball back out. Mork has to fetch it. She is the top scorer in the

:01:01. > :01:05.competition so far. Now the Norwegians decide to use their last

:01:06. > :01:10.team time-out, with 51 seconds remaining to pull this game back and

:01:11. > :01:12.take it to extra time and keep alive their dream of three consecutive

:01:13. > :01:49.golds at the Olympic Games. So that is the aim for Norway, not

:01:50. > :01:53.to get a quick goal and win the match in normal time, just try and

:01:54. > :01:57.equalise. 51 seconds, I doubt they will get that log. The problem for

:01:58. > :02:03.them is that they know they have two score off this one. If they fail

:02:04. > :02:12.with this, the Russians will play it along. They probably have to do

:02:13. > :02:15.individual marking if they fail. Inside the goal, unbelievable

:02:16. > :02:23.scenes! The fans can't believe it either. Kurtovic the score, but

:02:24. > :02:27.still a chance for Russia. This is it, 30 goals apiece. If Russia can

:02:28. > :02:32.score at the end of this match, they are going through to the Olympic

:02:33. > :02:36.final. And it is saved, but the penalty is given. Penalty given for

:02:37. > :02:45.the foul on my Petrova after Grimsbo made a great stop. And we have 18

:02:46. > :02:48.seconds left on the clock. They did so well to find the ball into

:02:49. > :03:19.Petrova. Now Norway will try and get forward

:03:20. > :03:28.as quickly as possible. They have ten seconds to go! Norway have

:03:29. > :03:40.levelled it with five seconds left! Are we going to extra time? The shot

:03:41. > :03:44.goes wide and yes, we are! Heidi Loke has come into the game in the

:03:45. > :03:55.second half and has saved the match for Norway.

:03:56. > :03:59.DAN WALKER: I am so sorry to tell you that we cannot stay any longer

:04:00. > :04:04.on air on BBC Four. We are going to have to leave it there. I would love

:04:05. > :04:08.to keep watching this with you. You can go onto the Red Button. The game

:04:09. > :04:12.will continue there to see if Norway or Russia can make it through to the

:04:13. > :04:16.gold medal match. What drama at the end. Russia get the penalty, Norway

:04:17. > :04:20.go straight down the other end. They have only got 20 seconds, and they

:04:21. > :04:24.get the equaliser to take it into ten minutes of extra time, which

:04:25. > :04:29.will be on the Red Button. Whatever cable or Freeview you have got, you

:04:30. > :04:34.can get the Red Button. It is on the website. And in case you can't stay

:04:35. > :04:39.up, we will show you the extra time periods tomorrow on BBC Four. Sorry

:04:40. > :04:44.to leave it there, but two o'clock is our call off time. Thank you for

:04:45. > :04:47.watching. Thank you for all your texts and tweets this evening. Two

:04:48. > :04:53.more nights on BBC Four. We leave you with the image of the day. It

:04:54. > :05:04.happened behind us here. Two words, Brownlee brothers. Good night.
