:00:48. > :01:00.Welcome back to the evening action, your time, afternoon in Rio. We will

:01:01. > :01:02.be showing you diving, the final of the women's ten-metre platform,

:01:03. > :01:07.Tonia Couch in it for Britain. At 9pm, Jade Jones in the semifinal of

:01:08. > :01:09.the tae kwon do, trying to win through to the gold medal about.

:01:10. > :01:21.Here are the headlines on day 13. Alistair Brownlee led home his

:01:22. > :01:24.brother Jonny for a British 1-2 in the triathlon, it makes Alistair the

:01:25. > :01:31.first man to retain the title and the first brothers to win gold and

:01:32. > :01:35.silver in the same event since 1960. After being frustrated by the

:01:36. > :01:40.weather yesterday, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark were finally allowed to

:01:41. > :01:46.celebrate their gold medal in sailing's 470 women's class. It was

:01:47. > :01:53.confirmed in the medal raises, Team GB's 21st gold medal of these Games.

:01:54. > :01:56.And there was a very exciting silver medal for Liam Heath and Jon

:01:57. > :02:01.Schofield in the Canoe Spring K2 200 metres, they got the nod on photo

:02:02. > :02:07.finish to upgrade the bronze they won in London four years ago. And

:02:08. > :02:10.Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge earned Britain a first Olympic

:02:11. > :02:18.badminton medal for 12 years by winning their bronze medal play-off

:02:19. > :02:19.match in the men's doubles. So this is how we are planning

:02:20. > :02:23.match in the men's doubles. So this is how we are planning to bring you

:02:24. > :02:27.the action. We will be livening with the women's ten-metre platform

:02:28. > :02:31.shortly, and I'm hoping from the example of Jack Laugher from

:02:32. > :02:36.qualifying anywhere, you can get into the final and anything can

:02:37. > :02:39.happen. Jade Jones was the youngest gold-medallist in London, she

:02:40. > :02:45.defends her title next. We hope to be talking to guests include Joshua

:02:46. > :02:49.Buatsi, who took bronze medal in boxing and Marcus Ellis and Chris

:02:50. > :02:55.Langridge, who won bonds today in badminton. We'll be live at 9:40pm

:02:56. > :03:00.for the last half or quarter three and four of the men's gold medal

:03:01. > :03:05.match, Belgium against Argentina, and from 11:30pm onwards, 10:30pm

:03:06. > :03:10.onwards, sorry, there will be an Olympic round-up of anything you may

:03:11. > :03:13.have missed. But live action of course always takes precedence, and

:03:14. > :03:18.high up in the stadium at the diving is Helen Skelton, almost on a level

:03:19. > :03:22.with the ten-metre platform. Yes, but thankfully I don't have to

:03:23. > :03:26.jump from this platform headfirst, upside down, which is exactly what

:03:27. > :03:30.Brin's Tonia Couch has just done. Due joiners for the finals of the

:03:31. > :03:34.women's ten-metre individual platform and Tonia Couch has just

:03:35. > :03:38.done her first dive. She will be very happy with it. This was the

:03:39. > :03:41.dive this morning that did not go so well in the semifinals, but she

:03:42. > :03:46.managed to pull it off beautifully today. This morning, she went to

:03:47. > :03:50.close to the edge but look at that, she will be very happy with that and

:03:51. > :03:55.she racked up a good score, her coach was impressed, so it gets

:03:56. > :04:01.Tonia off to a good start. She picked up 64.5 points, so five

:04:02. > :04:05.rounds of diving, the harder the dives, the more points the divers

:04:06. > :04:11.will accumulate, and Tonia does have to be consistent if she wants to get

:04:12. > :04:20.herself on the podium this evening. Well, Bob Ballard, Leon Taylor will

:04:21. > :04:24.join you for the rest of round one. This is a huge dive to open up with

:04:25. > :04:31.and she's absolutely nailed the finish. Wow, 8.5s across-the-board,

:04:32. > :04:38.hello, 81 points. For those who have just joined us on BBC One, this is

:04:39. > :04:44.the fourth dive of round one, Meaghan Benfeito, the first dive as

:04:45. > :04:49.in the preliminaries. It did not go so well for her in the semifinal but

:04:50. > :04:55.in the prelim, 81, and in the final, 81, and she is amongst those who

:04:56. > :05:05.become testing for third place. Now to Minami Itahashi of Japan, the

:05:06. > :05:09.inward three and a half, with took. -- tuck. I don't know how to

:05:10. > :05:14.describe the power of this young Japanese, she's only four and she

:05:15. > :05:19.looks as though she had springs on her feet. She does almost double

:05:20. > :05:24.board level and has to come out of the dive with her toes pointing up

:05:25. > :05:27.to the sky in order to make the control. Impressive stuff. She

:05:28. > :05:34.doesn't quite get the clean rip entry that she will be looking for

:05:35. > :05:39.but my word, it's good. It's very good at the moment, it puts her into

:05:40. > :05:44.second place. The stakes have risen and been raised from today, earlier

:05:45. > :05:49.on, when in different first two rounds -- there were indifferent

:05:50. > :05:53.rounds from many of the divers. 7.6 for the 16-year-old from Japan, we

:05:54. > :06:00.have seen one Canadian already, a good start from Meaghan Benfeito and

:06:01. > :06:02.Roseline Filion can follow suit, inward to one half somersaults,

:06:03. > :06:09.lowest degree of difficulty we will see in round one. A super-clean

:06:10. > :06:16.entry, fractionally overrode freighted. -- over rotated. It

:06:17. > :06:20.looked like she went after it a bit, she misses the diving board but just

:06:21. > :06:26.can't quite stop the dive over rotating but because she disappeared

:06:27. > :06:31.into the water, less, not enough splash to fill a teacup as we often

:06:32. > :06:36.say. Look at those marks, even with the over rotation. It's the last

:06:37. > :06:44.thing they see, it off influences what they give and 71.40 for the

:06:45. > :06:48.Canadian, we have a class field here who are giving is class dives

:06:49. > :06:52.earlier on. Ram two is where it went wobbly. That was due to the weather

:06:53. > :06:59.conditions we had earlier on, the sun slightly askew on the board. It

:07:00. > :07:07.gave you half light as you came down. Onto Pandelela Rinong, the

:07:08. > :07:16.bronze-medallist from London four years ago. Forward three and a half.

:07:17. > :07:20.Well, it's good and normally I'm more more more impressed by this

:07:21. > :07:25.young lady's finishes. The finishing of the dive is so important. That's

:07:26. > :07:31.where the lion's share of the marks are. Take off is spot on, her pike

:07:32. > :07:35.shape is unbelievable, her forehead is in line with her ankles, I didn't

:07:36. > :07:39.know that was anatomically possible! She has open hamstrings which allows

:07:40. > :07:47.her to get deeper to that pike shape, not quite keeping the

:07:48. > :07:52.splashdown. Enough for more than yes. Eight to come. Eight to come,

:07:53. > :08:05.72 is more than respectable for Pandelela. 81.6 is the leading score

:08:06. > :08:09.so far from Meaghan Benfeito. Kim, the older Kim, not the world

:08:10. > :08:17.champion Kim, big Kim, with her forward three and a half. It's good

:08:18. > :08:22.game from Kim. She had a bit of a shoddy rudimentary effort. She just

:08:23. > :08:28.scraped into the semifinal in last position, in 18th, and then she

:08:29. > :08:34.comes out all guns blazing and she was making a play for the front from

:08:35. > :08:41.start number one in the semifinals. Here she is opening up her campaign,

:08:42. > :08:45.marginally over rotated. So she won't be overtaking some of the

:08:46. > :08:54.front runners. No, but she is in there with a 17, so we've had 73 72,

:08:55. > :08:59.71, a 70 now. Tonia Couch, 64.5 was better than she did this morning.

:09:00. > :09:03.She is eighth of eight starters so far. Now some people reckon this is

:09:04. > :09:05.going to be the bronze-medallist today, some people say she's diving

:09:06. > :09:12.exceptionally well, consistently well. Who are these some people you

:09:13. > :09:18.talk of mysteriously? Here is Melissa Wu, we know who she is. She

:09:19. > :09:23.is Bob's bet for a medal and I will say, oh, there are just some people

:09:24. > :09:27.who, I don't know if they are made up people whether they are real

:09:28. > :09:31.people, you have to take that up with my co-commentator. Melissa Wu,

:09:32. > :09:37.fourth in London, fourth all day today, fourth in the prelims, fourth

:09:38. > :09:41.in the semifinals, will it be better than forth today? She has to come

:09:42. > :09:47.out of the jungle all guns blazing and see if that is good enough. To

:09:48. > :09:54.put her up there in the front bench. It's OK, that's good, 73.5. It puts

:09:55. > :09:58.her into third place. Are you saying I'm a fantasist? I'm talking about

:09:59. > :10:03.people who know this sport inside out. You just referred to them as

:10:04. > :10:09.some people! Name your sources! I will when we get closer to the

:10:10. > :10:15.winning line. The first of the two Chinese, Ren Qian. Yes, so just 15

:10:16. > :10:19.years old. Wasn't even born when the Sydney Olympic Games were on, and

:10:20. > :10:27.here she is opening up her campaign with an exceptional dive. Just a tad

:10:28. > :10:32.short of vertical. Other than that it is bang on. I think it's worth a

:10:33. > :10:36.nine. There's hardly anything of her, when she stands up on the

:10:37. > :10:39.platform next to the railings you can only just see her, she is that

:10:40. > :10:47.lean. That helps when you get into the water. No splash equals good

:10:48. > :10:59.marks, and there they are. Not quite as good as Meaghan Benfeito but not

:11:00. > :11:02.too far shy. 81 point six -- 81.64 Meaghan Benfeito. First place

:11:03. > :11:08.probably will go to a Chinese, we will see the second of them shortly.

:11:09. > :11:12.The most impressive of the rest has been Jessica Parratto of the USA,

:11:13. > :11:17.and she will open like many others with a forward three and a half.

:11:18. > :11:21.There is talk that she at the Olympic trials was a similar

:11:22. > :11:27.position. She qualified in top place and had a bit of a wobble in the

:11:28. > :11:31.final. She has been exemplary, she being Jessica Parratto, all the way

:11:32. > :11:36.through. I love her style of diving. She's 22 years old and she is my tip

:11:37. > :11:40.for mixing it up in the bronze. But time will tell. That's the first

:11:41. > :11:46.dive, bang on the money, and she will be right up there on Ren Qian's

:11:47. > :11:49.shoulder, if not in front. So now you know Leon Taylor is not some

:11:50. > :11:59.people because it's not him I was talking to. OK! Oh, I see, that's

:12:00. > :12:04.very cryptic, Bob! We won't get -- I can get more obtuse than that. I'm

:12:05. > :12:08.sure you can! We move onto the other Chinese, the one who would surely be

:12:09. > :12:16.the favourite in the basis of what she did in the prelims, Best, semis,

:12:17. > :12:19.Best, forward three and a half. Oh, she has opened up there with a

:12:20. > :12:26.beautiful dive, following on Jessica's forward three and a half

:12:27. > :12:30.in the pike position. Her entry is not quite as good, Si Yajie, so it

:12:31. > :12:35.shouldn't get as many marks, because the height is incredible. The entry

:12:36. > :12:43.isn't quite as clean as the American just before her, but 17 years old.

:12:44. > :12:49.And Chinese. She has been the one to keep up with, hasn't she, through

:12:50. > :12:53.prelims and semifinal. It would be a travesty if she can't hold form and

:12:54. > :13:01.really go for this gold. There are your marks, exactly the same as we

:13:02. > :13:04.saw for Jessica Parratto, 81, so there's nothing to choose between

:13:05. > :13:13.one and joint second at the moment. The first round done and dusted.

:13:14. > :13:18.Four more to go. Some bigger tariff dives, 3.3s, 3.4s still to come.

:13:19. > :13:22.That's how it looks after the first round. Canada in front as was the

:13:23. > :13:32.case in the prelims. Jessica Parratto in second with Si Yajie and

:13:33. > :13:35.Ren Qian in fourth. Where is Tonia? On the second page at the bottom,

:13:36. > :13:43.but a considerable improvement on this morning's dive. She has made a

:13:44. > :13:46.18 or 19 points. It's probably the weakest in the programme, her

:13:47. > :13:50.forward? Yes, as I mentioned when she opened up with it, it's the dive

:13:51. > :13:53.that's been causing her the most difficulty and she has got it out of

:13:54. > :13:58.the way now. She's at the bottom of the pack and it's time to get her

:13:59. > :14:01.comeback on. It's almost like putting your rucksack down. You feel

:14:02. > :14:18.lighter, it's out of the way, you can get going. So many bits of

:14:19. > :14:21.transport are unbelievable. # commentator's problems. No son in

:14:22. > :14:30.the commentary box, I'm pleased to say. It's gone home, yes.

:14:31. > :14:38.Paola Espinosa of Mexico. She will do the 3.4 later, but this is 3.3.

:14:39. > :14:42.Three and a half somersaults. Somebody who can challenge, one of

:14:43. > :14:54.the most experienced divers in the field. Yes, super experienced.

:14:55. > :14:57.Almost defying Isaac Newton, gravity doesn't seem to affect her, she

:14:58. > :15:04.jumps through the roof, if there was one. Jumping up towards the sky,

:15:05. > :15:09.turning into a bit of a banana when she enters the water, that will be

:15:10. > :15:16.costly. If she could keep a bit more tension she could have pulled around

:15:17. > :15:28.the dive. Banana woman. If you are playing diving bingo at home I think

:15:29. > :15:38.you have just had your first caller. To get 24 spaces filled. Onto the

:15:39. > :15:53.younger of the two Malaysians, in which friend a half somersaults,

:15:54. > :15:57.Sabri. 3.2, for the Malaysians. She pops up into that, almost like

:15:58. > :16:02.shaking the bottle of fizzy drink and opening the top, she explodes

:16:03. > :16:07.off the diving board, she has no issues, making the dive very easily.

:16:08. > :16:14.Look how easily she finishes, where they half, four and a half metres

:16:15. > :16:19.drop. Not quite keeping the splash down, so eight is good, maybe. If

:16:20. > :16:25.she stayed with it she would have got more than that. Always a big

:16:26. > :16:29.smile from her and her coach as well as she goes round the deck. Now,

:16:30. > :16:45.Tonia Couch. In the five dives, there has to be

:16:46. > :16:49.one arm stand. I don't think we will see her kissing the platform, I

:16:50. > :17:01.think those have gone, from the semifinal. Arms down, back, double

:17:02. > :17:07.somersault, one and a half twists. It's a beautiful dive from Tonia

:17:08. > :17:12.Couch, all the way into the water. In the preliminaries she buried it,

:17:13. > :17:18.no splash at all. This time the aerial work was fantastic and she

:17:19. > :17:24.doesn't quite get the entry. The rip entry is a splash less entry. She

:17:25. > :17:27.has worked hard but she can't quite stop that dive from moving over

:17:28. > :17:46.vertical and therefore her heels caused the splash to splash out. She

:17:47. > :17:55.did 65.6 earlier. That is an improvement but not a considerable

:17:56. > :18:03.one, sadly. Onto the early leader, Meaghan Benfeito. Ooh that's

:18:04. > :18:09.tremendous, isn't it. A gave of tactics, the first dive was 3.2.

:18:10. > :18:13.Putting a big score on the board and using the dive that the other

:18:14. > :18:24.athletes decided to open with in the second round, 3.0, and she

:18:25. > :18:32.absolutely drills it. Wow. I didn't see it coming, did you? No. 78.

:18:33. > :18:43.Meaghan has been slightly off. She has been back to the village to have

:18:44. > :18:49.her Scoobie Snacks, that's for sure. Gold and silver may go to China, we

:18:50. > :18:54.are presuming that will happen. Predict rather than presume. Another

:18:55. > :18:57.medal, which may belong to Meaghan Benfeito. It may belong to the mini

:18:58. > :19:12.money are this is such a tricky dive. 3.0

:19:13. > :19:17.degrees of difficulty but I think it is actually more difficult than

:19:18. > :19:23.that, he skips off the diving board, a trapdoor take-off. She is only

:19:24. > :19:30.4-footed 11 so she has to come out of it really early and she doesn't

:19:31. > :19:36.quite pull it off. Shorter vertical. She's enjoying herself. When the

:19:37. > :19:41.dive has gone, it has gone. That's a shame for her. Not going to get the

:19:42. > :19:51.response from the judges that she was looking for. That's probably

:19:52. > :19:55.about right. 6.5s across-the-board. The scores of malt applied by the

:19:56. > :19:58.degree of difficulty. We have seen one Canadian going difficulty, top

:19:59. > :20:22.of the leaderboard two multiplied. This is the highest degree of

:20:23. > :20:29.difficulty in her list. What a dive. They have brought their a game. They

:20:30. > :20:37.are here in force and this is a huge dive. This will get over 80 points

:20:38. > :20:42.and quite right too. Wow. Out of first gear and up into high speed.

:20:43. > :20:47.What a competition we are seeing. No indications of anything like this

:20:48. > :20:53.earlier in the day and suddenly, they flicked a switch and off

:20:54. > :21:01.they've gone. Rosalind Philly, the biggest mark we've seen in the

:21:02. > :21:08.competition so far -- Rosalind Philly on -- Roseline Filion.

:21:09. > :21:21.She has a bit of ground to make up here. Only 2.9, the degree of

:21:22. > :21:26.difficulty. She has really flunked the end of the dive, hasn't she?

:21:27. > :21:30.Very graceful, aesthetically pleasing is a lovely way of

:21:31. > :21:34.describing it, great shapes and very good technician but a huge error,

:21:35. > :21:42.coming out of the dive a fortnight too early. This will be costly. That

:21:43. > :21:46.could see the 23-year-old from Malaysia, the second of the

:21:47. > :21:49.Malaysians in the final falling away from the hot pace that has been set

:21:50. > :21:55.by some of the contenders in the contest. Bronze-medallist four years

:21:56. > :22:02.ago. Chances of replicating that are looking slim with that 53.65.

:22:03. > :22:14.Because everybody else is diving their proverbial socks or boots,

:22:15. > :22:20.whatever foot wear. The older Kim of North Korea. She doesn't want to be

:22:21. > :22:26.too close to the board, she was a bit close this morning. Safe

:22:27. > :22:34.distance from the diving board. I will call it if it is too close. She

:22:35. > :22:37.won't be penalised for that. Inward is so challenging, standing

:22:38. > :22:40.backwards and you have two spin forward. She has haired, which gives

:22:41. > :22:51.her the appearance of being closer than she is. -- she has hair. That

:22:52. > :22:55.is good from him. Super slow motion. They like to do that inwards to show

:22:56. > :23:03.how close. The judges don't get the replay. Safe dive from Jim. The

:23:04. > :23:12.standard that everybody else has said, that is quite low -- from Kim.

:23:13. > :23:20.That is 72. Into fourth place. Now, the arm stand from Melissa Wu. Arm

:23:21. > :23:28.stand back double somersault. One of the half twists, 3.2. Even at this

:23:29. > :23:40.stage, having to play catch up with the likes of Sabri and Meaghan

:23:41. > :23:45.Benfeito. So far those people are OK with their prediction. Melissa Wu

:23:46. > :23:49.coming out with a very good arm stand back double somersault, one

:23:50. > :23:56.and a half twists. Doesn't get a strong push off the diving board,

:23:57. > :24:00.not using her hands to get going, so it can throw out her control.

:24:01. > :24:09.Straight down, looks like washing powder underneath. She pulls the air

:24:10. > :24:13.down. Rolling down into the abyss. It isn't the abyss any more because

:24:14. > :24:21.the water is the correct colour. You need your washing machine looked at

:24:22. > :24:28.if it is doing that! 72, Melissa Wu. Moving onto Ren Qian of China. Three

:24:29. > :24:34.and a half with a track for the first of two Chinese we will see --

:24:35. > :24:44.a tuck. So classy all the way through. Top-notch diving from Ren

:24:45. > :24:48.Qian, but that is a marginal wash, over the vertical as she goes in.

:24:49. > :24:54.The rest of the dive was bang on the money. Safe distance from the diving

:24:55. > :25:00.board, nines coming her way, but not attend because she would have needed

:25:01. > :25:03.to be completely vertical. She is putting pressure on Jessica Parratto

:25:04. > :25:26.coming up next and also Si Yajie. Just going ahead, it

:25:27. > :25:35.is tied at the top. One person who wants to be there and hold onto what

:25:36. > :25:42.she has got, second place, Jessica Parratto of the USA. Ooh she is an!

:25:43. > :25:56.If any of her dives were going to go, it would have been this one --

:25:57. > :26:01.she is on. Wow. We have Canada against the USA for the bronze. Only

:26:02. > :26:09.into the second round, long way to go. Just under 80 points. The marks

:26:10. > :26:21.are astonishing. 84, 85. So many high marks. Jessica Dourado is in

:26:22. > :26:32.second place, couple of points behind, Meaghan Benfeito is just

:26:33. > :26:37.behind her and Roseline Filion is just behind her, almost like a conga

:26:38. > :26:45.line. Beautiful take-off and aerial work, just a fraction over rotating.

:26:46. > :26:50.Will she get nine like her team-mates or 8.5s? Depends how much

:26:51. > :26:55.the judges penalised her for the marginal over rotation. Beautiful

:26:56. > :27:06.diving, just a touch over, you can see. The judges don't get the slow

:27:07. > :27:11.motion, they call it as I do. Nines. No emergency yet for Si Yajie, she

:27:12. > :27:16.is very covered with at the top. I say comfortably. It isn't nailed on.

:27:17. > :27:23.You wouldn't want to call it because the gaps between the main

:27:24. > :27:35.protagonists are very tight indeed. So, where are we? It is China one

:27:36. > :27:41.and two the top five are separated by just ten points after the second

:27:42. > :27:51.round. Sabri in sixth. We will have to see if Tonia has made up some

:27:52. > :27:55.places. She has made up one so far. We've had some people asking why the

:27:56. > :27:59.judges don't get to see at least one replay, do you have any thoughts on

:28:00. > :28:05.whether they should and why it may affect the competition? It would be

:28:06. > :28:11.a long and drawn-out process, the judges are very experienced, used to

:28:12. > :28:20.judging the dive straightaway. Lie I don't agree with that proposal. --

:28:21. > :28:24.no I don't agree. We have seven judges, the two lowest and highest

:28:25. > :28:29.are taken away. The judges need to be a bit more responsible for taking

:28:30. > :28:37.away marks for divers who are dangerously close. That's my only

:28:38. > :28:46.gripe. Beautifully summarised, I thought. Some people saying that we

:28:47. > :28:50.see the replay is, why shouldn't they, but it would extend the

:28:51. > :28:53.competition for another hour and in the preliminaries, we would be here

:28:54. > :29:02.all day. The gymnastics judges don't get it. 3.4, the biggest dive we

:29:03. > :29:07.will see today, Espinosa needs the points, she is in ninth place and

:29:08. > :29:15.this one would push the forward. It is as well. -- push her. I'm so

:29:16. > :29:21.pleased she has nailed it, fantastic effort. Reverse three and a half.

:29:22. > :29:28.The only female on the planet who can do this dive and she has done it

:29:29. > :29:34.here to a fine standard. This is huge. 80 points coming her way. Has

:29:35. > :29:41.she done enough to stay with the pack? We'll wait and see. Still not

:29:42. > :29:49.totally happy with it, but 81.6 is a good return. Her opening round dive

:29:50. > :29:54.put her slightly off the pace, that's probably why she isn't

:29:55. > :30:01.smiling. She has two more to do. Certainly has but she has over 200

:30:02. > :30:09.now, so she is in the mix. As indeed is Sabri, more than her established

:30:10. > :30:18.Malaysian colleague at this stage. Very consistent so far. 72, 70 five.

:30:19. > :30:25.Here comes the arm stand, and a bit of wind as well. I'm not sure that

:30:26. > :30:29.the wind is up enough to affect Sabri, who really went after the

:30:30. > :30:35.dive. Holding a very firm balance but using a very well executed

:30:36. > :30:46.donkey kick in order to get the dive moving. Great spin speed, just

:30:47. > :30:51.exited the dive to -- too late. The first surfboard moment we've had.

:30:52. > :30:54.She's loving it, 17 years old. Six, that's a shame. She got a great

:30:55. > :30:59.start but she couldn't quite get the end.

:31:00. > :31:07.Yes, she was in contention, but that will put her back at least a couple

:31:08. > :31:12.of places, you would think, 59.40 four Nur Sabri. Let's turn our

:31:13. > :31:16.attention to Tonia Couch. Not a great start, a much better second

:31:17. > :31:23.round. Needs to get going to be in contention for anything other than a

:31:24. > :31:38.minor place. Inward three and a half somersaults, worth 3.2, for Tania --

:31:39. > :31:43.Tonia. Oh! What a shame. Tonia has been having difficulty with this

:31:44. > :31:49.dive. She really, really nailed this in the prelims. Just leaving that

:31:50. > :31:54.short, not quite completing the dive. The judges will heavily

:31:55. > :32:04.penalised her. That is a huge shame for Britain's Tonia Couch. Yes, I'm

:32:05. > :32:09.afraid with 64, 67, now 52... She's out of it. You do the maths. It's

:32:10. > :32:19.hard to swallow but she will be way off the pack. Medal not coming her

:32:20. > :32:22.way today for Great Britain, she can't do a Jacques Blaauw and

:32:23. > :32:26.recover that much from the semifinal. Onto Meaghan Benfeito,

:32:27. > :32:33.the two Canadians have been rocking it so far, see if she can rock it

:32:34. > :32:39.still further with a back three and a half. Oh, yes, she can, she blasts

:32:40. > :32:43.off into the atmosphere! This is unbelievable stuff for Meaghan

:32:44. > :32:55.Benfeito. My word! This is good enough to get out and do the Mobot

:32:56. > :33:00.afterwards. Eights coming her way at least. Superb diving, three out of

:33:01. > :33:03.three for the 27-year-old. Already won a bronze in the sink row last

:33:04. > :33:08.week and now she is putting pressure on the rest of the field. Bronze in

:33:09. > :33:13.the synchro four years ago as well and made the final. Only 11th in

:33:14. > :33:23.London. She will be much further up the pack them that if she carries on

:33:24. > :33:27.in that vein. 81, 78, now 79.20, 238 total marks, that will really lay

:33:28. > :33:36.down a platform, little platform, for the rest. Minami Itahashi from

:33:37. > :33:42.Japan, the youngster with her back three and a half somersaults with

:33:43. > :33:46.tuck. Well, it's good. I think there's so much more potential. She

:33:47. > :33:50.doesn't quite finish off the job. You can see here a big knee bent

:33:51. > :33:55.doesn't quite straight on through the legs. She kind of dips into

:33:56. > :34:03.this. She plays the waiting game, gets the exit of the dive right but

:34:04. > :34:09.it is shonky on the finish, slightly out of alignment and therefore only

:34:10. > :34:15.getting sevens. Yes. Yes, it's now the diving Mexican which will

:34:16. > :34:20.probably be in the Oxford English dictionary before too long, the crew

:34:21. > :34:26.three is the word we carried through from last year, getting a lot of use

:34:27. > :34:34.here. The two Canadians have started in very impressive fashion, Roseline

:34:35. > :34:38.Filion now, chooses to go with this dive that a lot go with in round

:34:39. > :34:45.one, in round three. Forward three and a half. Well, like-for-like with

:34:46. > :34:49.her synchro partner, different times of course. This is amazing diving.

:34:50. > :34:59.Wow! Well, whatever they did, the

:35:00. > :35:03.Canadians in between, whether they went back for a barbecue, or

:35:04. > :35:09.whatever they have done, to refuel, to re-energise and come out all guns

:35:10. > :35:13.blazing, this is Canada kicking it. Yes, that word you can't use, well,

:35:14. > :35:21.you probably could, are we watershed? No, we are not there yet

:35:22. > :35:27.so we won't use it. 76.54 Bosley Stiliyan, the code -- Canadian

:35:28. > :35:31.coaches going berserk. Quite right too. They normally reacts quite

:35:32. > :35:37.positively even if the dive isn't that good. It has sent them into

:35:38. > :35:41.overdrive. It is Canada one and two at the moment which is probably why

:35:42. > :35:44.they are so excited. She pretty much blew her chances of getting in the

:35:45. > :35:49.top three in round two, here is her arms stand. Not the most

:35:50. > :35:56.concentrated on stand we will see today, 3.2. Complicated enough

:35:57. > :36:03.though. And well executed, just a little bit of splash. You could see

:36:04. > :36:06.Pandelela right on the edge of the diving board, they can choose where

:36:07. > :36:10.they want to dive. She was on the side. You can see quite close to the

:36:11. > :36:16.left-hand side we look at it there, this is because of divers dive

:36:17. > :36:20.synchro, so they choose the side of the board and stick to it. If you

:36:21. > :36:26.are wondering why they are standing in different spots, that is why.

:36:27. > :36:32.Yes, you may recall her being very impressive at the Commonwealth Games

:36:33. > :36:38.in Edinburgh, the diving events were in Edinburgh, not Glasgow, two years

:36:39. > :36:42.ago. Not quite as impressive today. She might be in that shake-up for

:36:43. > :36:47.third place, but it's not going to be her. It could be one of the

:36:48. > :36:52.Canadians, it could be the American. Kim did well to make the semifinal,

:36:53. > :36:57.the final place she managed to grab by just a point. She's improved

:36:58. > :37:06.greatly since then. Here's her arm stank. -- on stand. That's more

:37:07. > :37:11.complicated. Him doing all the right things on the take-off and spin

:37:12. > :37:14.speed, just exit the dive too late and cannot do anything about the

:37:15. > :37:20.massive over rotation, causing a mini tsunami as she enters the

:37:21. > :37:25.water. Seen here on the super slow motion, she puts her feet up too

:37:26. > :37:32.high, opens up through her chest and over rotates. There is the wave.

:37:33. > :37:39.Yes, emptying the pool. You will notice now it's azure blue.

:37:40. > :37:45.Back to where it was, better than where it was, the first couple of

:37:46. > :37:49.days was a bit cloudy, but you can see right through to the bottom.

:37:50. > :37:55.It's an advantage for the divers in terms of their sporting of the

:37:56. > :38:01.water. The water coming in from the side is to make the visibility

:38:02. > :38:11.better. Melissa Wu. OK, tremendous from Melissa Wu. Well, she needs to

:38:12. > :38:15.be on this kind of form. She maybe needs a little bit of luck, as well,

:38:16. > :38:19.with others around her faltering which isn't happening yet, because

:38:20. > :38:24.this is only 2.8 degrees of difficulty and she is absolutely

:38:25. > :38:31.drilled this dive. She will get nines. It's an absolute corker.

:38:32. > :38:38.Lupin electrical -- lucky leprechaun needed, pot of gold at the end of

:38:39. > :38:43.the rainbow, still in the mix. A chat with the coach, there was a ten

:38:44. > :38:47.in there, in case you didn't see it up briefly, it doesn't count towards

:38:48. > :38:51.the total. One judge loved it enough to give it full marks. It will be a

:38:52. > :39:00.nine, nine and another nine towards that score of 75.6. Second placed at

:39:01. > :39:08.the moment. Here's Ren Qian of China, back three and a half, once

:39:09. > :39:15.again, 3.3. Wow! I think we have seen our first ten. This is stunning

:39:16. > :39:21.come from start to finish. Wow! The only thing she has got her boots on,

:39:22. > :39:27.feet flat, so maybe it's a 9.5. Other than that, that is nigh on

:39:28. > :39:34.perfect. Twinkle toes needs to point her toes, but that is the dive off

:39:35. > :39:41.the meat so far. 90 points plus, yes. We've had loads of 80s and I've

:39:42. > :39:48.had been enthusiastic and eulogising those, but we've gone through the 90

:39:49. > :39:57.barrier, 94.05, so she is now gone 18 point past Meaghan Benfeito and

:39:58. > :40:00.23 ahead of Roseline Filion, but don't count your chickens yet

:40:01. > :40:09.because this young lady is having a particularly good competition. 22

:40:10. > :40:13.years of age, a big improvement for Jessica Parratto, inward three and a

:40:14. > :40:19.half with tuck for the American. Well, feeling the pressure, there

:40:20. > :40:24.you go, that's obviously got to her. Wow. That's a huge wobble. This is

:40:25. > :40:32.one of her better dives, maybe even one of her easier dives. And as soon

:40:33. > :40:38.as the pressure comes on, it's like the hammer on the cracks, will they

:40:39. > :40:55.appear? Well, my tip for a medal exiting out of the back door. 44.80.

:40:56. > :41:00.It's my bit now! Soap Jessica Parratto 44.8, 4.5, 4.5 and five.

:41:01. > :41:08.Know your place, Leon Taylor, please! Si Yajie of China, our

:41:09. > :41:13.current leader, best in the preliminaries. Very impressive in

:41:14. > :41:20.the semifinal. A huge lead over the rest. Can she opened up a chasm over

:41:21. > :41:25.Ren Qian? Very unlikely. On stand back double somersault, one and a

:41:26. > :41:32.half twists. Wow, like-for-like, this is outstanding, isn't it? What

:41:33. > :41:40.a competition. This is first class. The two Chinese teenagers are a cut

:41:41. > :41:47.above, even in this exceptional standard of contest. My word! This

:41:48. > :41:54.is nines coming Si Yajie's way and she will be right up there next to

:41:55. > :42:02.Ren Qian. Well, she's not leading. OK. Ren Qian has just edged in

:42:03. > :42:09.front. Where's that coming from? Music is blaring out. We're into the

:42:10. > :42:18.club! This is the music at France House, one of the... Or Holland

:42:19. > :42:24.House, that's also a good one. Its China one and two, but a change in

:42:25. > :42:30.place, it's gone seesaw, with Meaghan Benfeito in third, the two

:42:31. > :42:36.Canadians separated by size, and Tonia Couch sadly where we suggested

:42:37. > :42:43.she might be after that dive in round three, number 12 in the

:42:44. > :42:49.pecking order of 12. Well, it's filled a little bit in the Maria

:42:50. > :42:53.Lenk Aquatics Centre, a few more people in. Still a lot of people at

:42:54. > :42:59.the synchro swimming, too many for my liking but there you go. It's a

:43:00. > :43:04.good noise, loads of flags, Japanese flags, US, Malaysia and flags, quite

:43:05. > :43:09.a few of those. The support their 42-macro goals, but there are long

:43:10. > :43:16.way down the pack. -- they are supporting two goals. It looks like

:43:17. > :43:19.China and can do it doing battle, maybe Fowler Espinosa just trying to

:43:20. > :43:26.get in there somehow, she's not too far out of the way, just ten shy of

:43:27. > :43:32.Roseline Filion, ten short of Meaghan Benfeito, she does have one

:43:33. > :43:40.of the higher tariff programmes here. A great third-round dive. Can

:43:41. > :43:46.she back it up? Inward three and a half somersault is come with tuck,

:43:47. > :43:50.for the Mexican Paola Espinosa, the oldest competitor, the most

:43:51. > :44:01.experienced competitor in this field. Well, she is making her

:44:02. > :44:07.experience Count. That is superb. Just her trademark slight lower back

:44:08. > :44:12.arch as she goes in, other than that it's an outstanding dive from Paola

:44:13. > :44:17.Espinosa, opening up the fourth round as she opened up the third

:44:18. > :44:21.round. This is hot stuff. Yes, she won't have given up a chance of a

:44:22. > :44:25.top three finish either, and why should she with marks like that?

:44:26. > :44:31.81.6 in round three and she replicates that in round four as

:44:32. > :44:36.well and is the first of the hit the 300 mark, 305 so far. What a

:44:37. > :44:40.competition we have, we certainly can't put any of the medals around

:44:41. > :44:47.any of the next, as yet. It's way too tight. China one and two, but it

:44:48. > :44:53.could be Canada one and two quite easily, the way this is progressing,

:44:54. > :44:56.with Mexico in the mix as well. Nur Sabri, the highest place of the

:44:57. > :45:04.Malaysian is at this stage, back three and a half somersault is with

:45:05. > :45:08.tuck. Well, Nur Sabri starting, there is starting to appear for this

:45:09. > :45:13.very, very young Malaysians will stop -- there are errors starting to

:45:14. > :45:18.appear. She loves it out there in this arena, diving, loves her sport,

:45:19. > :45:23.trains so hard, up to six or seven hours a day to perfect her art and

:45:24. > :45:27.it just shows how easy it is for things to go slightly out of line.

:45:28. > :45:33.It's not quite as easy as getting dogs to salivate, you have to train

:45:34. > :45:35.and train and train, and even then it doesn't quite get it right.

:45:36. > :45:41.Science references. We had a Sesame Street this morning

:45:42. > :45:57.and now it is Pavlov's dog. Tonia Couch. Eighth place in

:45:58. > :46:03.Beijing, she didn't get to do the individual event in 2012. Two and a

:46:04. > :46:14.half somersaults, one and a half twists. That's really good from

:46:15. > :46:19.Tonia. Great dive. But she has left herself too much to do here to

:46:20. > :46:25.challenge. This will be good enough to get her off the bottom place in

:46:26. > :46:30.the final. She has worked hard to be here and she will continue diving at

:46:31. > :46:35.the best of her ability to get back some of those places but she is off

:46:36. > :46:43.the pack. Normally when she is diving at her best, a lot of smiling

:46:44. > :46:50.and waving. A bit of a grimace from Tonia but she will try to work her

:46:51. > :46:57.way up to get alongside the likes of Kim to get off the 12th place, to

:46:58. > :47:02.get into the top ten if she can. There may be some faltering to go,

:47:03. > :47:10.we still have round four. Meaghan Benfeito's arm stand. She's had a

:47:11. > :47:16.brilliant programme so far, 81, 78, 70 nine. Can she get into the 80s

:47:17. > :47:26.with this? Arm stand back somersault, one and a half twists.

:47:27. > :47:36.Wow. What a sensational... Effort. My word, I am shocked to see the

:47:37. > :47:41.quality. A bit of helicopter feet as she took off, she got it together,

:47:42. > :47:46.keeping her feet glued together. Short of vertical but still good

:47:47. > :47:51.enough for eights. Benfeito is definitely in the bronze medal

:47:52. > :47:56.position. She has come close to winning medals in big championships

:47:57. > :48:02.before, fourth in Shanghai in the worlds in 2011 and forth in Rome in

:48:03. > :48:11.2009. It would be agonisingly she came fourth, the way she is diving

:48:12. > :48:18.today. She is their or thereabouts. Itahashi," Joe years' time -- in

:48:19. > :48:27.watch a year's time she will be mustered. Other brands are

:48:28. > :48:34.available. The rumour is that she does four and a half tucks. You can

:48:35. > :48:40.see that she has a lot of time, cruising out of the dive. What an

:48:41. > :48:46.exciting dive. Some are scrappy on the bottom but she has a lot of

:48:47. > :48:56.time. Beautiful dive. Yes, not enough room to catch up at this

:48:57. > :49:01.stage. A big smile, she loves it. She knows she can improve. She has

:49:02. > :49:09.delighted us over the last couple of days. Here comes what I call the big

:49:10. > :49:14.arm stand, it is three somersaults with it. Slightly higher degree of

:49:15. > :49:23.difficulty than the other one. 3.3. We've seen the Canadians getting

:49:24. > :49:32.everything right so far. If she gets 8.5s she is in the lead.

:49:33. > :49:45.Ooh that is the first fault that we've seen from Filion. She'll be

:49:46. > :49:49.annoyed with that. Good take-off, all the way through, she exited the

:49:50. > :49:55.dive a bit too early, Masip splash there.

:49:56. > :50:02.Falling away from the medal places -- massive bash. What a shame

:50:03. > :50:07.because she was having a good old tussle with her partner for a

:50:08. > :50:11.potential third place. That's going to knock her down the standings. She

:50:12. > :50:19.was fourth after Round 3, probably going to lose a couple, maybe three

:50:20. > :50:26.positions as the juggling continues. Tonia Couch is having her own battle

:50:27. > :50:30.at the bottom with Pamg. I thought she might win a medal but it isn't

:50:31. > :50:35.going to be for the three-time Olympian. Third in London. Making

:50:36. > :50:43.the final once again, the inward three and a half of Pamg from

:50:44. > :50:52.Malaysia. Yeah it is fair to middling by her standards. This dive

:50:53. > :50:59.is pretty routine. She doesn't look sharp. She has some strapping on her

:51:00. > :51:10.right ankle. When you are finishing that low to the water it is a bit of

:51:11. > :51:21.a scramble. Here come the marks. Yes, 7.5 times two, with difficulty

:51:22. > :51:26.giving her 73.6. That will move her a little bit clear of Tonia on a 15

:51:27. > :51:34.points ahead. Sabri is ten points ahead of Tonia at the moment. Now it

:51:35. > :51:51.is on to Kim Un Hyang. What a finish,

:51:52. > :51:58.amazing dive from big Jim as we affectionately calling from North

:51:59. > :52:05.Korea. -- big Kim. Such solid entries. Great finish into the

:52:06. > :52:19.water, my word, that is the cleanest entry we've seen. "

:52:20. > :52:32.totally rad"? . The cool kids are going to know what I mean. You can

:52:33. > :52:38.look it up. Thanks very much. 82.5, that was really big for Kim, lifting

:52:39. > :52:42.her up to fourth place although she may not be there for very long

:52:43. > :52:49.because here comes Melissa Wu for Australia. Will she be totally rad?

:52:50. > :53:03.It doesn't sound right when I say it. She's on the money. Some people

:53:04. > :53:07.very much right with their predictions. Melissa Wu, fourth

:53:08. > :53:16.place in London, she is on the money all the way through. Sending a shock

:53:17. > :53:20.wave around the pool side. Our colleagues at Channel seven have

:53:21. > :53:25.something to shout about although everyone is in bed in Australia at

:53:26. > :53:31.the moment. They may be raised from their slumber is with that, 81.6.

:53:32. > :53:40.Three have gone over 300 thou. Benfeito, 315. Melissa Wu, 302.

:53:41. > :53:49.Going to be interesting in the shake-up for the medals. Here is our

:53:50. > :54:01.leader. Pretty much leading through the preliminaries and the semis, Si

:54:02. > :54:14.Yajie. 15 years of age, has her name in front. Another one. Wow. Only 15

:54:15. > :54:17.years old, such a good line, she looks as straight as a lamp post on

:54:18. > :54:25.the platform in the handstand and then exactly the same on the finish,

:54:26. > :54:30.bolt upright, no deviation. Splash, that has to be ten from me. Not much

:54:31. > :54:37.wrong with that, she had her toes pointed. Wow we are seeing a diving

:54:38. > :54:45.masterclass from the 15-year-old Ren Qian. Sorry to laugh when I'm saying

:54:46. > :54:52.that. Tom Daley was 15 years old. Tens don't count towards the total,

:54:53. > :54:59.9.5s do. The winner of the World Series in Kazan in Windsor -- and in

:55:00. > :55:08.Windsor. She knows how to win from the front and she is doing it in the

:55:09. > :55:16.Olympic final. The arm stand treble, for Jessica Parratto. Because of the

:55:17. > :55:27.error on the previous round, she isn't going to be medalling today.

:55:28. > :55:34.Using that as a verb. Lie medal for Parratto. She's all over the place

:55:35. > :55:38.now, that has really unsettled her, the error in the third round. The

:55:39. > :55:46.fourth round is another unfortunate effort. She is diving in between the

:55:47. > :55:53.Chinese pair of Ren Qian and Si Yajie. The pressure has got to her.

:55:54. > :56:03.That is a botched dive, over rotation. That's a shame. Yeah, two

:56:04. > :56:14.Paula dives -- bad dives by her standards. Great start, 81 and 79.

:56:15. > :56:23.It is like somebody flipped the coin and suddenly her diving went into

:56:24. > :56:32.reverse. Only one diver can overtake Ren Qian. It needs to be tens. It

:56:33. > :56:35.isn't going to be ten, it is a top notch effort from Si Yajie who has

:56:36. > :56:42.been outclassed by her 15-year-old counterpart. Si Yajie is only 17, a

:56:43. > :56:48.battle of the teenagers, but at the moment, Ren Qian has the upper hand.

:56:49. > :56:59.Wow. This is still a great dive, about 80 points. Fractionally short

:57:00. > :57:04.of vertical. The gap is opening up a little bit now, isn't it? Yes,

:57:05. > :57:14.considerable gap between the Chinese with that mark of 79.20. There has

:57:15. > :57:15.been a swing between Ren Qian and Si Yajie. With one more round to go in

:57:16. > :57:41.the women's ten-metre platform. STUDIO: Unfortunately Tonia Couch is

:57:42. > :57:47.down in 12th place. The final dives Matt, -- the final dives will be on

:57:48. > :57:53.the Red Button and we will bring them to you later. Jade Jones in the

:57:54. > :57:56.taekwondo is shortly in action in the semifinal and if she wins she

:57:57. > :58:01.will go through to the gold-medal bout. Jade Jones is the defending

:58:02. > :58:05.champion, coming to London as a 19-year-old, very much under the

:58:06. > :58:11.radar and came away with Britain's first ever gold medal in the sport.

:58:12. > :58:25.COMMENTATOR: A defining moment. Jade Jones going for Britain's first ever

:58:26. > :58:31.gold medal in this. She can be enormously pleased with her start to

:58:32. > :58:37.this fight. Jones has doubled the lead, what a great second round that

:58:38. > :58:43.was. Just two minutes between Jade Jones and you know what. Point by

:58:44. > :58:50.point, the gold getting closer and closer. You little beauty! The

:58:51. > :58:58.teenage kicking superstar from North Wales is the new champion. She'll

:58:59. > :59:04.remember this for ever. With that she became Britain's youngest ever

:59:05. > :59:07.gold-medallist in London 2012. She says it is different coming here,

:59:08. > :59:12.everyone knows who she is, the defending champion. She's been

:59:13. > :59:16.working hard. She lives and trains with Bianca Walkden in the heavier

:59:17. > :59:19.category, but she has practised against her because she knows that

:59:20. > :59:29.she will come up against opponents to taller than her. Massive crowds

:59:30. > :59:34.here and many are going to Carioca one. They are quite noisy. Jade

:59:35. > :59:40.Jones in action, this was not caught a final, winning it very

:59:41. > :59:46.convincingly, in the end it was 7-2. Strong athlete, she is in the red.

:59:47. > :59:49.Most of her expertise is to the head, she is known as the head

:59:50. > :59:56.kicker, an affectionate name. In very good form. The semifinal could

:59:57. > :00:00.be a very different prospect because she is up against Sweden's Nikita

:00:01. > :00:06.Glasnovic. Jade was very focused after that. She gave a bit of a

:00:07. > :00:10.smile, she acknowledged her fans but she's concentrating on one thing,

:00:11. > :00:14.she once the gold medal. She started like wonder when she was eight,

:00:15. > :00:20.introduced to it by her grandfather. If you are wondering whether you can

:00:21. > :00:24.take it up, go to the Get Inspired section of our website because if

:00:25. > :00:32.you type in your postcode you can find out if there is a club near

:00:33. > :00:36.you. Get Inspired is BBC Sport's campaign to help you get active. It

:00:37. > :00:40.is on the BBC sport website and you can find inspirational from stories

:00:41. > :00:44.-- inspirational stories from people like you as long as practical guides

:00:45. > :00:49.to help you get something done. There is an activity finder to help

:01:02. > :01:06.over to you. Get up, Get Inspired and get active.

:01:07. > :01:14.That is how you do it, go down, find the sport you want, taekwondo is

:01:15. > :01:20.there, click on it and away you go. So Jade will be out shortly. First

:01:21. > :01:23.of all, let's catch up on a few of the things that have happened. She

:01:24. > :01:28.is walking out now. Earlier on there was a British one and two in the

:01:29. > :01:33.men's triathlon, Alistair Brownlee leading home his brother Jonny.

:01:34. > :01:38.Mills and Clark have been able to celebrate their medal in the women's

:01:39. > :01:43.470 class. There was a silver in the canoe sprint. We have a sensational

:01:44. > :01:47.bonds medal in badminton, it was unexpected, Marcus Ellis Anant Chris

:01:48. > :01:52.Langridge, I will talk to them later on the programme. Charley Hull, in

:01:53. > :01:57.the Gulf, she is only two shots off the lead, joint third at the halfway

:01:58. > :02:00.stage of the women's golf, there is Jade Jones making her way to the

:02:01. > :02:03.arena. She is trying to keep her mind very much on the job in hand.

:02:04. > :02:13.It's been a theme, we noticed it with the hockey players as well, not

:02:14. > :02:15.getting overemotional, not celebrating too soon, they are

:02:16. > :02:17.focused on trying to win gold medals, nothing else will do.

:02:18. > :02:20.There's her opponent, Nikita Glasnovic, who has come through to

:02:21. > :02:24.this stage relatively easily. It's a friendly affair until they start

:02:25. > :02:28.fighting. The commentators for the taekwondo on John Cullen and Neal

:02:29. > :02:32.Adams. It's three rounds of two minutes and you will see the scores

:02:33. > :02:37.being marked as they make contact. It's relatively straightforward to

:02:38. > :02:41.follow. But Jade Jones I suspect will be favourite coming into this,

:02:42. > :02:44.I think she has met Glasnovic a few times and beaten her almost every

:02:45. > :02:55.time they've met, but you will get more detail from John and Neal

:02:56. > :03:01.COMMENTATOR: Three times two minute rounds, this

:03:02. > :03:07.is the semifinals, a big win here and you can guess what will happen

:03:08. > :03:14.after that. Gold and silver on the horizon. We're here at the Carioca

:03:15. > :03:19.Arena number three, downtown Rio, a packed crowd, a big occasion. Six

:03:20. > :03:25.minutes to decide it. Glasnovic comes forward, using that push kick.

:03:26. > :03:30.Jones responds, very aggressive. Push kick in response, absolutely,

:03:31. > :03:40.came forward straightaway. Both of them absolutely coming forward.

:03:41. > :03:46.Jones avoids Glasnovic's reach, tries to flick one out of her own

:03:47. > :03:53.there. This is a battle for territory, looking for the space. A

:03:54. > :03:57.punch attempts from Jones on the way through. No purchase on it though.

:03:58. > :04:02.The 21-year-old Nikita Glasnovic, slightly the tour of the two come

:04:03. > :04:10.but the strength advantage you would fancy for Jones. She to flick one

:04:11. > :04:14.upstairs. -- she tries to flick one upstairs. Three points for a head

:04:15. > :04:18.kicks, one for a shot to the body. If you can spin you get extra

:04:19. > :04:23.points. At the moment the referee separates them. There's been an

:04:24. > :04:27.excellent opening first minute. Yes, they are feeling each other out, but

:04:28. > :04:30.good defence from both as well as attack, which is a great thing to

:04:31. > :04:50.see. They are both great athletes. The British contingent in the crowd

:04:51. > :04:54.trying to cheer forward Jade Jones. The Welsh warrior going forward with

:04:55. > :05:04.that push kick. It's all about optimal Estyn. Everyone's legs are

:05:05. > :05:10.different lengths. Jade Jones is going for the head. She gets the

:05:11. > :05:15.body, a simple push kick. Nikita Glasnovic with 20 seconds left, the

:05:16. > :05:23.Swede, she will have to think about her tactics, sharp shock, or go for

:05:24. > :05:26.it. A good shot from Jones getting closer to the head. Glasnovic in a

:05:27. > :05:34.little bit of trouble. She will be glad to hear the buzz here. She

:05:35. > :05:36.changed the with the turning kick, Jade Jones, but a great start for

:05:37. > :05:50.her. We'll try to have a sneaky listen to

:05:51. > :05:54.the coaches, but a stalemate, but Jade Jones finding that little bit

:05:55. > :05:59.of accuracy. That's what it's all about, isn't it? This whole game is

:06:00. > :06:03.about the accuracy and obviously it's about space as well, closing at

:06:04. > :06:12.space, but closing that is based at the right time. -- closing that

:06:13. > :06:18.space at the right time. Speaking of time, it's ticking away now. Both

:06:19. > :06:26.fighters' last-minute bits of rest. The Welsh contingent in the crowd,

:06:27. > :06:31.Paul Green, the coach. Himself an Olympian back in Athens. But this,

:06:32. > :06:36.the Rio Olympic Games, Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden, one point down

:06:37. > :06:37.against Jade Jones. The Swede trying to come forward, good defence from

:06:38. > :06:49.Jones. That push kick so effective there

:06:50. > :06:55.from Jade Jones. Tries again after the push kick with a bike leg --

:06:56. > :07:00.back leg turning kick. The Swede is resolute, hanging on their, it's a

:07:01. > :07:05.1-point game. Change that, it's a two point game. It changes so

:07:06. > :07:14.quickly. It's a crumb of comfort for Jones. Difficult for Glasnovic now,

:07:15. > :07:20.she will take it here. Great combinations, Jade Jones.

:07:21. > :07:31.Tries with the back leg turning kick, well blocked by Glasnovic. The

:07:32. > :07:37.Swede is two points down, Jade Jones is ever focused. Glasnovic did bring

:07:38. > :07:42.a little gift across and it's a gift of a point there. Steals it under

:07:43. > :07:48.the guard, tried to flick one of her own up the stairs. That's one of the

:07:49. > :07:54.biggest things, she is so focused. We have four points there. Excellent

:07:55. > :07:58.response with the head shot there from Glasnovic. Jones had taken a

:07:59. > :08:03.four point lead. The Swede flicked one up the stairs, found an open

:08:04. > :08:13.door. Found the face of the Flint fighter.

:08:14. > :08:23.I think she committed, but left herself open for that, didn't she?

:08:24. > :08:25.But credit to the Swede on that one. Turns defence into attack,

:08:26. > :08:30.Glasnovic. It was a 1-point game at the end of the first round. There is

:08:31. > :08:35.a Kyong-go hanging against the Swede, the last ten seconds here,

:08:36. > :08:40.the Flint fighter Jade Jones, Olympic champion back in London, a

:08:41. > :08:48.final at stake here. She goes in at the end of the second round with a

:08:49. > :08:50.1-point lead. Neal Adams, Olympian yourself, silver-medallist yourself,

:08:51. > :08:56.you know what this feeling is like, trying to get into the final? Yes,

:08:57. > :09:01.absolutely. It is one of the hardest things in the world. You know you

:09:02. > :09:05.have everything resting on this now, and well, I don't know what her

:09:06. > :09:09.coach is going to be saying to her but for me now, looking at this

:09:10. > :09:17.last, we have seen so many that have been lost in this last two minutes.

:09:18. > :09:21.So what does she do? She has to I think just keep focused, keep

:09:22. > :09:26.focused, keep her head in the game. Keep her head in the game as well,

:09:27. > :09:31.Glasnovic, she has been focused and resolute, the Swede. Very much

:09:32. > :09:37.involved. And of course the 21-year-old from Malmo, she has

:09:38. > :09:42.excellent pedigree coming into this. Nikita Glasnovic just one point down

:09:43. > :09:47.against Jade Jones, the women's 57 kilograms semifinal here in Rio at

:09:48. > :09:53.the Olympic Arena and it's an excellent little push kick from Jade

:09:54. > :09:57.Jones, a good start. Glasnovic tried to get involved on the back foot

:09:58. > :10:02.though, keep -- takes another push kick. Great Britain's Jones getting

:10:03. > :10:07.a bit of dominance here. Yes, it's not just accurate as well, it's got

:10:08. > :10:12.power, hasn't it, that front kick? It's fantastic stuff from Jones, she

:10:13. > :10:15.scores again. There's a three come to the head, so she gets another

:10:16. > :10:22.three points, Jade Jones. Look at this now! Really going to work.

:10:23. > :10:29.She turns defence into attack, 9-3 to the good now. Jade Jones had a

:10:30. > :10:35.little look at her corner to say looking for a potential head shot,

:10:36. > :10:41.but the coach thinking better of it. Some change left in the third here.

:10:42. > :10:46.Nikita Glasnovic from Sweden, can she summon it up? We seen her

:10:47. > :10:52.flexibility. Does she have the variety? Jade Jones, excellent

:10:53. > :10:56.strength, standing on that front leg, keeping the Swede at bay,

:10:57. > :11:00.excellent defence. That's what she's got to think about now, defence,

:11:01. > :11:05.rather than going forward on. When she got scored on the head she was

:11:06. > :11:10.going forwards. Going forwards is Glasnovic. Tries the back leg

:11:11. > :11:14.turning kick, well defended by Jones, moving around, why wonderful

:11:15. > :11:23.shot of the arena. High drama in downtown Rio. Gold medals at stake.

:11:24. > :11:30.Just 41 seconds, can't afford to go outside the area. I think she's just

:11:31. > :11:35.needs to stand her ground. Good defence, she has good defence, just

:11:36. > :11:40.use it now for the last 30 seconds. It's a good punch from Glasnovic,

:11:41. > :11:44.who looks absolutely exhausted. A spot in the Olympic final, Jade

:11:45. > :11:52.Jones defending resolutely. A formidable force, this fighter from

:11:53. > :11:56.Cup Flint, landing to the body. It's all about timing, just using that

:11:57. > :12:04.push kick just to keep her away, keep her at bay.

:12:05. > :12:11.Nikita Glasnovic on the attack, trying to go forward. Jade Jones

:12:12. > :12:16.spinning around, using her footwork. She will take a Kyong-go, it will be

:12:17. > :12:20.a 5-point game now and Jones avoiding the head shot there. She

:12:21. > :12:24.knows she has one foot in the Olympic final. She has one foot on

:12:25. > :12:28.the edge of the ring. The crowd are up for this one. Takes the Kyong-go,

:12:29. > :12:32.immaterial. The referee almost takes one in the head there from

:12:33. > :12:43.Glasnovic. Good defence from Jade Jones. Can she defend her title? She

:12:44. > :12:46.has a chance. She's in the final and second consecutive Olympic final and

:12:47. > :12:52.look at that, the British and the crowd go absolutely mad. They love

:12:53. > :12:54.it. Great support out there and that was amazing. Jade Jones going for

:12:55. > :13:04.her second Olympic title. CLARE BALDING:

:13:05. > :13:08.Glasnovic Ann Jones embrace, Jade Jones will be hugely relieved at

:13:09. > :13:12.that, she wanted the final, nothing else, all she has come for rid the

:13:13. > :13:16.gold medal, defending her title at the moment in style and that gold

:13:17. > :13:22.medal belt will be at 2am your time. To IM, they have to fight three

:13:23. > :13:26.times in one day. It's 10pm Brazil time, to a British time, Glasnovic

:13:27. > :13:38.looks exhausted, but Jones will celebrate for a short time, not for

:13:39. > :13:41.long, and she will refocus for the final. We will find out who she

:13:42. > :13:43.fights later in the programme. Back at the diving, Tonia Couch of Great

:13:44. > :13:45.Britain was out of medal contentions. We will bring you the

:13:46. > :13:50.conclusion of the diving, with the final dives of Ren Qian from China

:13:51. > :13:57.after -- leading after four rounds. This is Melissa Wu from Australia, a

:13:58. > :14:01.more gentle sport than taekwondo but just as accurate.

:14:02. > :14:05.COMMENTATOR: Fourth-place, maybe. Yes, she's

:14:06. > :14:10.faltered, she needed perfect tens, she hasn't got it. You can see the

:14:11. > :14:14.Canadian celebration there. Melissa Wu narrowly missing out again,

:14:15. > :14:18.fourth in the prelims, fourth in the semifinal, for four years ago and I

:14:19. > :14:28.think this might be another place. Let's wait and see. Watching the

:14:29. > :14:34.replay here. Oh! Agony, it really will be. She's worked so hard for

:14:35. > :14:41.this. Going through the routine, just replaying the dive physically

:14:42. > :14:48.and in their minds. That means... She will be fifth. She's finished

:14:49. > :14:59.higher than Paola Espinosa. It will be fifth placed at best for Melissa

:15:00. > :15:04.Wu. 368, Espinosa 377. She's in tears, because she's got a medal no

:15:05. > :15:09.matter what happens now. Meaghan Benfeito has a medal. We would

:15:10. > :15:15.expect the Chinese to go rocketing over 400 here but which one will get

:15:16. > :15:19.the highest? Easily over 400. Is it the 15-year-old who will go first?

:15:20. > :15:30.Ren Qian. She has the lead. Phenomenal, my word. That is your

:15:31. > :15:37.Olympic gold-medallist, without any doubt. Only 15 years old. You have

:15:38. > :15:43.to be 14 to be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games and following on,

:15:44. > :15:49.like many of her countrywomen before her, Ren Qian, at the tender age of

:15:50. > :16:03.15, has annihilated this high-scoring world-class field.

:16:04. > :16:14.Yeah, words fail me. 91.2. What a suggestion of scores. 94, 91, 91.

:16:15. > :16:19.Astonishing. Look at that smile, what a butterfly, just coming out.

:16:20. > :16:25.So classy, all the way through. Beautiful diving, elegant, classy.

:16:26. > :16:35.World beating. Annihilating the field. 15 years of age. She was

:16:36. > :16:40.second in Kazan last year and the World Championships but the Olympic

:16:41. > :16:46.champion in 2016 because she can't be caught. Not enough marks

:16:47. > :16:51.available for anyone to overhaul her. Jessica Parratto was so close

:16:52. > :16:56.but she faltered. Back two and a half somersaults, one and a half

:16:57. > :17:00.twists. That is a glimpse of what she can do but two huge errors in

:17:01. > :17:06.rounds three and four will see her having to come back another day to

:17:07. > :17:11.fight again. She was blisteringly hot in the preliminaries and

:17:12. > :17:16.especially the semifinal. Just diving out of the competition here.

:17:17. > :17:23.She'll be close to the bottom. Half of the field. Where will she end up,

:17:24. > :17:30.ninth place, tenth? At the moment she is in ninth place but Si Yajie

:17:31. > :17:35.is going to overhaul her. So it will be tenth place for the USA. These

:17:36. > :17:40.and programme, both men's and women's, improving greatly -- decent

:17:41. > :17:52.programme. We still have the Olympic championship in the men's. Diving

:17:53. > :17:55.tomorrow in the preliminaries. It should be relatively straightforward

:17:56. > :18:03.now offer Si Yajie -- for the silver. Si Yajie can't catch Ren

:18:04. > :18:14.Qian. Sixes will do it, for silver, for the Chinese 1-2. Yeah, Chinese

:18:15. > :18:18.1-2, as we expected. Ren Qian obviously isn't as good at

:18:19. > :18:25.mathematics as us, you have won. Your team-mate, Si Yajie, diving

:18:26. > :18:30.very well but she has been outclassed by her younger team-mate.

:18:31. > :18:34.This was absolutely wonderful. Commentating on this competition was

:18:35. > :18:41.a real treat. The standard is through the roof. Both Chinese

:18:42. > :18:51.diverse, way over 400, like smashing the ten seconds in the men's 100

:18:52. > :18:59.metres. 419 and not winning it. Wow. 81, 76, 89 and 76 the Si Yajie. On

:19:00. > :19:05.any other occasion that would get you the gold, but not today because

:19:06. > :19:09.your team-mate was some 20 points, get that, 20 points better than you.

:19:10. > :19:17.That's astonishing for a 15-year-old. It shows that age is no

:19:18. > :19:27.barrier in sport, certainly Chinese sport anyway. Unbelievable, wasn't

:19:28. > :19:37.it? That was a diving Master Class. Her scores. 78, 84, 94, 91, 91. You

:19:38. > :19:42.are kidding me? That is just bonkers. And she wasn't bleeding

:19:43. > :19:48.after the first round. She was in third place, fourth place smack

:19:49. > :19:57.-- wasn't leading. Meaghan Benfeito has an individual medal, third place

:19:58. > :20:15.with 389. Relatively comfortable. Espinoza missing out again. Melissa

:20:16. > :20:22.Wu again missing out. Fourth-place Quadra years ago. Tonia Couch, it

:20:23. > :20:30.wasn't her day, to put it mildly, she wasn't on form. But she made the

:20:31. > :20:37.final and that in itself is a great achievement. STUDIO: Celebrations

:20:38. > :20:43.for China and you just wonder from the slow motion and how they don't

:20:44. > :20:50.get their head. Stunning to watch. The headlights so far on Day 13.

:20:51. > :20:57.Huge celebrations for Britain and the Brownlees, a 1-2 in the men's

:20:58. > :21:00.triathlon, Alistair Brownlee leading home his brother Jonny to become the

:21:01. > :21:06.first man to retain the Olympic title. They are the first brothers

:21:07. > :21:13.to win the Olympic gold and silver in the same event since 1950. After

:21:14. > :21:16.being frustrated by the weather yesterday, Hannah Mills and Saskia

:21:17. > :21:22.Clark were able to celebrate after their gold in the sailing 470 class

:21:23. > :21:28.was confirmed in the medal race. I love that running around the podium!

:21:29. > :21:37.Team GB's 21st gold medal. Liam Heath and Jon Scofield -- Jonny

:21:38. > :21:40.Scofield. They said that they had unfinished business after being

:21:41. > :21:44.edged out of second place in London watcher years ago. Jade Jones is one

:21:45. > :21:49.win away from a successful defence of her Olympic taekwondo title --

:21:50. > :21:57.four years ago. She won her semifinal and she will be going for

:21:58. > :22:00.gold at 2am. Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge only tamed up a couple of

:22:01. > :22:06.years ago and today they owned bridge and a first Olympic badminton

:22:07. > :22:14.medal in 12 years by winning their bronze play-off match in the men's

:22:15. > :22:17.doubles. -- Chris Langridge. They are joining me now. Congratulations,

:22:18. > :22:21.where are your medals, when do you get them? Tomorrow, the final has to

:22:22. > :22:25.be played and then we get ours which we are looking forward to. Markers,

:22:26. > :22:31.I said you teamed up a short time ago, how did you get together? It

:22:32. > :22:35.was because of one of our colleagues switching to mixed, so it worked out

:22:36. > :22:39.well for me because at the time I didn't actually have a partner.

:22:40. > :22:44.Luckily I teamed up with Chris and one thing led to another and we are

:22:45. > :22:49.standing here today. Chris, you have said that you have been on this

:22:50. > :22:53.giant-killing run, you are not necessarily the best in the

:22:54. > :22:57.competition but you try the hardest! Yeah, we are honest, normal guys, we

:22:58. > :23:00.aren't going to make out that we are superstars. We are very good but we

:23:01. > :23:05.are not necessarily the best on paper. Something we have done well

:23:06. > :23:10.in this tournament, we have given more, we have wanted it more, the

:23:11. > :23:13.hunger we have had. Speaking to carriages from the other teams and

:23:14. > :23:18.they say that everyone is taking notice of us, which is nice to hear

:23:19. > :23:22.because of the passion we have. This means so much for us because we are

:23:23. > :23:28.so happy, so excited for tomorrow's medals. You provided drama to the

:23:29. > :23:32.last because the bronze medal match went to a deciding game and match

:23:33. > :23:38.point and you had about ten match points at this stage. This went to a

:23:39. > :23:41.decision by Hawk-Eye. You could have let it pass because you had more

:23:42. > :23:49.match points in hand, but you challenged. Yeah I did, as I struck

:23:50. > :23:55.the server side -- the serve I said I was sure it was in. Why was sure

:23:56. > :24:00.it was right. I was two feet wrong earlier, it is embarrassing when you

:24:01. > :24:05.get it wrong. When it went in, it was pure relief and we were so

:24:06. > :24:10.happy. You can see from your reaction what it means to you. Your

:24:11. > :24:15.coaching staff and your team. How must you think people at home will

:24:16. > :24:18.be celebrating? The amount of messages we've received, it has been

:24:19. > :24:23.pretty well received. I think we are going to have celebrations when we

:24:24. > :24:28.get home. I'm really gutted that my parents couldn't be here because I

:24:29. > :24:32.know that they would be so proud. It is really sad that they couldn't be

:24:33. > :24:34.here. What message would you like to send home because you probably

:24:35. > :24:39.haven't had a chance to talk to them? We've had Simon a nice

:24:40. > :24:43.messages, we've not had a chance to reply to them but I would like to

:24:44. > :24:47.say a massive thank you, we read every message and we appreciate it.

:24:48. > :24:52.Some of the people have been texting us and saying they have been crying,

:24:53. > :24:56.the amount of passion we've received, it makes it feel even more

:24:57. > :25:00.special. I think it is a response to the passion with which you talk

:25:01. > :25:06.about the game and how much you have thrown into your game. Chris, if you

:25:07. > :25:09.could say to anybody watching, the joy of badminton and how they could

:25:10. > :25:14.get involved, and who influenced your career? That's the thing, it is

:25:15. > :25:21.key in any sport, I started because my schoolteacher at middle School,

:25:22. > :25:25.when I was ten years old, she was the County coach. Me and my friends

:25:26. > :25:34.started playing and that is the only reason I'm here today. It is massive

:25:35. > :25:37.thanks to the school and Jackie Cunningham and her husband because

:25:38. > :25:41.they started me on this track. It is something we want to get across, you

:25:42. > :25:45.have to get involved. You may not be the best, because you are not the

:25:46. > :25:49.best now it does not mean you cannot be the best. As long as you enjoy

:25:50. > :25:53.it, give it everything, give it a try. The Olympics is the place you

:25:54. > :25:59.want to make it happen but it isn't the only global competition. What's

:26:00. > :26:05.next? I'm going on my honeymoon because I haven't had that yet. When

:26:06. > :26:10.were you married? New Year's Eve. Quite a long time ago. I have had

:26:11. > :26:15.some nagging from my wife, but we are sorted and looking forward to

:26:16. > :26:20.it. That is a nagging, I think that is respectable debate if you haven't

:26:21. > :26:26.been on your honeymoon yet. You are right there! Sorry! We have a

:26:27. > :26:31.holiday and then back to training. My first -- our first tournament

:26:32. > :26:35.together, is it the Danish Open? It is in October, so we have a nice

:26:36. > :26:39.break in September before we play again. Has this given you the

:26:40. > :26:44.enthusiasm to get back on the training court and to be in Tokyo? I

:26:45. > :26:50.might even do some training on my honeymoon! I don't know. It has

:26:51. > :26:55.given us so much. I think it has made us realise how good we are. We

:26:56. > :27:00.have come here, winning a bronze medal. It doesn't seem real. It's

:27:01. > :27:05.like we are dreaming, it is a crazy feeling and it should give us the

:27:06. > :27:08.motivation and positive attitude. There is hardly anybody we can't

:27:09. > :27:12.beat so I'm looking forward to those tournaments. Inspirational stuff,

:27:13. > :27:19.well done, enjoy your medal ceremony. Marcus Ellis and Chris

:27:20. > :27:22.Langridge. The training centre in Milton Keynes, a lot of investment

:27:23. > :27:27.has gone into badminton and it shows. What about boxing? We came

:27:28. > :27:32.here with 12 boxers, some of them fell by the wayside but Joshua

:27:33. > :27:40.Buatsi made sure of a bronze medal. He lost his semifinal and did not

:27:41. > :27:44.have a chance to fight for gold but he started well, two knockouts. He

:27:45. > :27:50.was frustrated in the semifinal, some holding tactics but he has a

:27:51. > :27:54.bronze medal to take home. Josh is with me now. I think your reaction

:27:55. > :28:00.to that was a bit of disappointment, but what now? Very disappointed but

:28:01. > :28:07.it has sunk in, slowly, that I have an Olympic medal. This is a dream

:28:08. > :28:12.country. I didn't think it could happen, man, so I am grateful and

:28:13. > :28:16.happy. I mentioned your knockouts early on, it is quite rare in

:28:17. > :28:22.Olympic boxing. You don't have head guards. Quite rare. I'm happy that I

:28:23. > :28:27.was able to display that I can punch at that level. People in Britain

:28:28. > :28:30.know that I can do it but for it to happen at international level, I'm

:28:31. > :28:35.glad that the world has a chance to see it. You have impressed some big

:28:36. > :28:40.names, Floyd Mayweather I understand is a big fan of yours. Yeah I saw

:28:41. > :28:45.him and I thought, everyone is sitting down but I must get a photo,

:28:46. > :28:50.Mayweather is the greatest athlete that I've met. I got a photo and he

:28:51. > :28:54.said he had heard about me, two spectacular knockouts, that's a good

:28:55. > :29:00.thing and to hear that from my idol, that was amazing. We are looking at

:29:01. > :29:05.the second knockout here. Do you know when you landed that it will

:29:06. > :29:07.do? That's the first one and the second one was against the world

:29:08. > :29:12.number six, so that's what made people think that this kid is

:29:13. > :29:16.special. I'm grateful that I could display that at this stage. The

:29:17. > :29:19.interesting thing with the change of rules is that you can turn

:29:20. > :29:25.professional and fight in the Olympics. What are your options?

:29:26. > :29:29.Really to have a break. I haven't looked beyond this point. This was

:29:30. > :29:35.the final stop for me. Why have to have a break and see what I'm doing

:29:36. > :29:39.next. I was asking Marcus and Chris how they started playing badminton,

:29:40. > :29:46.what about you? My best friend, Shane Sobers, who is in Brazil with

:29:47. > :29:49.me. We tried it on, we were sparring, he manoeuvred everyone and

:29:50. > :30:00.I thought, you know what, give me six weeks and I'm going to learn it.

:30:01. > :30:03.Getting the chance for him to admit that I came back and beat him up!

:30:04. > :30:09.Shane has bought me along with my training. And also the national

:30:10. > :30:11.lottery, without them I wouldn't be a full-time athlete and wouldn't be

:30:12. > :30:21.able to live and breathe boxing, How much support are you able to

:30:22. > :30:25.give to the other boxers? Did you watch Nicola Adams? I went to watch

:30:26. > :30:30.it, I was rooting for her. We have Joe Johnson in the semifinals as

:30:31. > :30:35.well. I've done my part, I have my medal and I can support the rest.

:30:36. > :30:38.Who has impressed you the most? Impressed me the most, I won't be

:30:39. > :30:42.funny but I've been impressed with what I did myself but I have to say

:30:43. > :30:47.every athlete, we've done well to get to the Olympic Games, to perform

:30:48. > :30:51.at the highest level, so everyone has been good, everyone has been

:30:52. > :30:54.fantastic but I'm grateful that I was able to display and perform the

:30:55. > :30:58.way I have been over the last four fights. The British team have been

:30:59. > :31:03.exceeding expectations. Do you think there is a key to it? Do you think

:31:04. > :31:06.there's greater belief? Did you come out here thinking anything is

:31:07. > :31:10.possible? The training we have put -- been put through, it's time to

:31:11. > :31:16.give credit to the GB boxing team, the staff, the coaches, everyone

:31:17. > :31:18.because they've qualified 12 out of 13 boxers, which not a lot of

:31:19. > :31:21.nations have done and it's a good thing and it shows the programme

:31:22. > :31:29.they have gotten everything they are doing in Sheffield is correct. We

:31:30. > :31:33.wish you well, Josh Buatsi, bronze-medallist. Earlier on we saw

:31:34. > :31:37.Jade Jones win her semifinal in tae kwon do. She could be the next

:31:38. > :31:44.British old medal later tonight. It will be at 2am. This is the second

:31:45. > :31:46.semifinal to decide her opponent, Eva Calvo Gomez from Spain, against

:31:47. > :32:08.Hedaya Wahba Nwaba from Egypt. Hedaya Wahba as a defensive style,

:32:09. > :32:15.very cool under pressure. She is very cool, calm and assesses the

:32:16. > :32:21.whole situation commerce tries to pick off the points. It's a slow and

:32:22. > :32:26.steady start from both fighters. In any fight you want to control the

:32:27. > :32:31.tempo. One of the great things Wahba does it strikes her opponent at into

:32:32. > :32:35.her style of fight, slows it down, takes the sting out of it and when

:32:36. > :32:40.you're not ready, she picks your pocket with the big shots. Yes, I

:32:41. > :32:44.was trying to work that one out, actually. You've hit the nail on the

:32:45. > :32:50.head there. Wahba slowing everything down and if I was Eva Calvo Gomez's

:32:51. > :32:54.coach, I'd be saying get in there, take the fight to her because that's

:32:55. > :32:58.exactly what she's doing, she is slowing it down. Exactly, I think

:32:59. > :33:04.Eva Calvo Gomez is an aggressive fighter, does have a lot of but

:33:05. > :33:11.Wahba is just happy to subdue things. She has silenced the crowd,

:33:12. > :33:17.she has slowed Eva Calvo Gomez down. Sometimes the only way through is to

:33:18. > :33:25.get them rattled a little bit. I think that the tactic here. It would

:33:26. > :33:30.be mine, anyway. Tactics are so crucial here on this one has been a

:33:31. > :33:34.tactical battle. Simple and deadly stalemate but of course the reason

:33:35. > :33:37.for that, you see the gap between them, you see the defence is

:33:38. > :33:42.resolute, you see the reason for that, decades of training, years of

:33:43. > :33:46.effort, you don't want to make a mistake. The Olympic Games final, a

:33:47. > :33:51.big prize as we get into the dying embers of this first round here in

:33:52. > :33:54.the semifinal. We've seen the importance of the collective

:33:55. > :34:01.ambitions, but they could not be separated on the scoreboard. yes,

:34:02. > :34:05.Eva Calvo Gomez trying to find a way through there, she was trying

:34:06. > :34:09.changing her stance, right foot forward, left foot forward, trying

:34:10. > :34:14.to change the position. It was interesting. In any fight, if you

:34:15. > :34:18.have an opening period at 0-0, you find out a lot about your opponent

:34:19. > :34:23.in that time. Yes, she was closed there as well, almost onto the head,

:34:24. > :34:28.almost made connection. So just needs to find the range and she will

:34:29. > :34:32.have it. But she has to be careful, because coming forwards of course,

:34:33. > :34:37.she find herself counter-attacked by Wahba.

:34:38. > :34:49.Critical times here at Carioca Arena 3. Olympic taekwondo is the fair on

:34:50. > :34:56.show. Eva Calvo Gomez, can she makes a big step? As we take the steps up

:34:57. > :35:01.here, the under 57 kilograms semifinal, Spain against Egypt.

:35:02. > :35:07.Hedaya Wahba in red, with the black trousers. Eva Calvo Gomez in blue,

:35:08. > :35:15.with the Spanish flag running down the side of the white taekwondo

:35:16. > :35:20.uniform. That uniform is completed by body armour and had gone, and

:35:21. > :35:25.they have socks on my feet that have sensors in them and they hit with

:35:26. > :35:33.power and impact and it schools automatically. No sign of that just

:35:34. > :35:38.yet. -- was Gore will change automatically. We were saying

:35:39. > :35:44.earlier it will be a 12 point gap that will finish it and also a

:35:45. > :35:47.knockout, as well. I think there's limited chances of seeing either,

:35:48. > :35:53.but they are potential opportunities. On the other side I

:35:54. > :35:58.was about to say actually, one point will win it, won't it, and one point

:35:59. > :36:02.sometimes is what you have got to go for. Totally right, the voice of

:36:03. > :36:06.experience there, you know what it's about to win a fight. You just have

:36:07. > :36:10.to find the right answer at the right time and crucially the style

:36:11. > :36:14.of Hedaya Wahba, doesn't expend a lot of energy which means she can

:36:15. > :36:18.stay focused and it takes a lot of nerves and confidence to just stand

:36:19. > :36:27.there, the Olympic final, the world is watching. And so is Wahba. yes,

:36:28. > :36:33.she's just waiting, isn't she? It looks to me as if she's just looking

:36:34. > :36:40.for that top click to the head. She's got good range, so she can do

:36:41. > :36:50.it. -- a top click. Can Eva Calvo Gomez avoid that? 20 seconds left in

:36:51. > :36:54.the second round here. The gap between the two cannot be bridged.

:36:55. > :36:59.Any chance of a little shot underneath?

:37:00. > :37:09.There is your answer, 0-0, at the end of the second round here. It

:37:10. > :37:13.will be interesting, won't it, to see how this third round will

:37:14. > :37:18.unfold, because now we have watched every third round and everything,

:37:19. > :37:22.things have happened in that third round, so it will be interesting to

:37:23. > :37:28.see now who takes the chances and where the points come from.

:37:29. > :37:33.Absolutely. It's been very little margin between them, there wasn't

:37:34. > :37:37.much between that had shot either. No, there wasn't, they are both

:37:38. > :37:39.going for it, big points for the head shot and just a little bit out

:37:40. > :37:54.of range. The knowledgeable crowd, they

:37:55. > :38:00.understand the importance of this one.

:38:01. > :38:12.Hedaya Wahba, she is in red, going against Eva Calvo Gomez, this is the

:38:13. > :38:17.third and potentially final-round. The Olympic Games final at stake.

:38:18. > :38:24.The final that contains Great Britain's Jade Jones. Who will it be

:38:25. > :38:30.joining her, Wahba will Eva Calvo Gomez? Better faking their from Eva

:38:31. > :38:36.Calvo Gomez, trying to draw out her opponent.

:38:37. > :38:48.That was good defence there, stopped that drop kick coming down. -- chop

:38:49. > :38:50.kick coming down. Good defence with their hands. Good defence with the

:38:51. > :39:05.hands, excellent covering. It would be interesting to know if

:39:06. > :39:09.Jade Jones is watching this. With interest. I'm sure there will be

:39:10. > :39:13.somebody in the GB coaching staff watching for her, she will be

:39:14. > :39:17.resting up, getting ready. Who will be getting ready to face her? A

:39:18. > :39:23.minute left in the third here. This is anybody's match, it just depends

:39:24. > :39:28.who initiates, who takes the chance. Eva Calvo Gomez on the front foot,

:39:29. > :39:32.trying to put some pressure, not Kyong-go on the board, they haven't

:39:33. > :39:37.really got close to going for it here as you do get the feeling that

:39:38. > :39:43.one kick could decide it. Like you are saying, it means they are both

:39:44. > :39:49.going forward, they are just doing enough, just, and just enough

:39:50. > :39:54.sometimes can leave you open. 26 seconds left. This has been a

:39:55. > :39:59.difficult battle for both fighters. 20 seconds now. Who can find a

:40:00. > :40:05.winning shot? Hedaya Wahba, the Egyptian in red, Eva Calvo Gomez,

:40:06. > :40:09.the slightly taller of the two, can she find the tiny margin that will

:40:10. > :40:15.take her into the Olympic Games final? Five seconds to decide. It's

:40:16. > :40:21.going to be a sudden-death golden point round. Whoever scores first

:40:22. > :40:40.will be the winner. Let's see if we can hear the coach in the corner.

:40:41. > :40:50.Control of the distance is so important. The coach advising.

:40:51. > :40:55.SPEAKS SPANISH. Watch for the head shots as well, she will go up high

:40:56. > :40:59.as well, so if you were an athlete here, you've been in an Olympic

:41:00. > :41:04.finals, do you stick, do you twist? Do you go for it, do you stay? It's

:41:05. > :41:10.a difficult one, I was in a world final where I wish I'd gone more for

:41:11. > :41:14.it and so it really is difficult. Do you wait for the mistake, or do you

:41:15. > :41:20.go for it? I think they've got to go forward. Going for a spot in the

:41:21. > :41:27.Olympic Games final, Eva Calvo Gomez against Hedaya Wahba, Egypt against

:41:28. > :41:33.Spain, the first point wins. Almost scoring from Wahba, well covered by

:41:34. > :41:45.Eva Calvo Gomez. Everything at stake here. Almost back kick leg, straight

:41:46. > :41:51.firing into the body armour. Wahba is going for it, taking the fight to

:41:52. > :41:57.Eva Calvo Gomez. Hedaya Wahba hopping forward on the front leg,

:41:58. > :42:05.almost shot to the face there. For Calvo Gomez, into the open stands,

:42:06. > :42:10.tries the hook kick into the body. That -- open stands. It looks like

:42:11. > :42:16.Wahba is being the aggressor but she has to watch the counterattack. The

:42:17. > :42:19.body shot attempt, has to watch the counterattack. A turning kick,

:42:20. > :42:24.almost over committing but crucially, if they do not score,

:42:25. > :42:28.whoever hits the body armour the most and registers, they will take

:42:29. > :42:32.the win, whoever has been the most aggressive. That will be decided by

:42:33. > :42:38.not the judges, but the computer scoring system. So how often have

:42:39. > :42:41.the sensor Sox hit the body armour? The nearest of margins here. Eva

:42:42. > :43:02.Calvo Gomez, the win for Spain! Well, Jones into the final here

:43:03. > :43:06.along with Eva Calvo Gomez, and what a prospect that will be. Wow, talk

:43:07. > :43:11.about leaving it to the last minute. That really was, wasn't it, the last

:43:12. > :43:18.seconds, and I feel for this lady here, Wahba gave it everything, she

:43:19. > :43:21.really did. It was just who hit the target and I said that Wahba was

:43:22. > :43:26.coming forwards and that was always the danger, wasn't it, Eva Calvo

:43:27. > :43:30.Gomez hit the target. Absolutely did, they could not be separated

:43:31. > :43:40.over the course of the six minutes. It took a further minute and a half

:43:41. > :43:46.into the golden point round. That golden score puts her into the gold

:43:47. > :43:49.medal final. CLARE BALDING:

:43:50. > :43:54.So Eva Calvo Gomez will be the opponent for Jade Jones at 2am. As

:43:55. > :43:59.for Jade, this is how she won her semifinal. It was a slightly nervous

:44:00. > :44:05.opening round. But she showed all her class. That's her in red and her

:44:06. > :44:11.experience, to move clear of any threat posed by Nikita Glasnovic.

:44:12. > :44:15.She is nicknamed the head hunter. She won convincingly. To move into

:44:16. > :44:21.the final. Afterwards, Nick Hope spoke to her coach, Paul Green.

:44:22. > :44:26.So far so good but I'm sure you want to push on from there? Yes, Jade has

:44:27. > :44:30.only come for one thing and that's the gold medal. She is prepared well

:44:31. > :44:34.for four years for this. The planning has been meticulous. The

:44:35. > :44:38.intensity of training has been meticulous. She's looking good to go

:44:39. > :44:43.and win. Tell me just how different her mindset is going into these

:44:44. > :44:47.Games compared to four years ago? She has had all this attention on

:44:48. > :44:52.her, everybody raises their game against her? Yes, four years ago she

:44:53. > :44:56.wasn't the one to beat. The Chinese were, the Chinese Taipei, now she is

:44:57. > :45:00.the one to beat, so it's harder going to Games, everyone is looking

:45:01. > :45:03.for strategies to beat her but we've done the homework on all the

:45:04. > :45:09.players, we have known them inside out, we've been mimicking them in

:45:10. > :45:13.all the 57 category and she's ready and prepared. She does take the

:45:14. > :45:17.pressure, but she always rising on -- rises on the occasion and I'm

:45:18. > :45:22.sure she will this afternoon. What will you tell her ahead of the

:45:23. > :45:27.final? I will tell her we're here for the gold medal, simple as that,

:45:28. > :45:32.but to stay on plan and the plan, she has a plan on open and closed

:45:33. > :45:36.stance, she has been working meticulously. We know the girls she

:45:37. > :45:39.is fighting, either Spain or Egypt, we know their strengths, we have to

:45:40. > :45:42.defuse their game and play to our strengths and that is what we will

:45:43. > :45:51.do. The best of luck. That fight will be at 2am. Earlier

:45:52. > :45:56.we showed you the final of the women's ten metres platform diving,

:45:57. > :46:01.the gold and silver went to China with sensational, almost perfect

:46:02. > :46:06.diving. Leon Taylor and Bob Ballard were lost in admiration. For Great

:46:07. > :46:12.Britain's representative, Tonia Couch, a rather disappointing 12th

:46:13. > :46:17.place. Some average diving, some good diving, how would you describe

:46:18. > :46:22.it? The last two days have not really been the best diving for me.

:46:23. > :46:28.I feel a bit gutted. A little bit flat, I gave everything to the

:46:29. > :46:32.synchronised and did well but I didn't come in the individual this

:46:33. > :46:37.time but I made the final, which was my goal. You know, can't take that

:46:38. > :46:42.away. There's a lot we can't take away, you've been at the top of your

:46:43. > :46:45.game for a lot of years but the Chinese girls put on a masterclass

:46:46. > :46:50.and did not leave any room for error. I didn't even watch them,

:46:51. > :47:02.they do it all the time, getting ten all the time, that's what we expect.

:47:03. > :47:05.I focus on myself. I'm always ready for my dive. Talk about the team

:47:06. > :47:12.performance, you're one of the most senior members, you have been the

:47:13. > :47:16.chief cheerleader. Our team has been fantastic. Such a great Bond, one

:47:17. > :47:22.happy family and everyone has been diving so well. Everyone is finished

:47:23. > :47:24.and here to support us, it has been amazing and everyone at home has

:47:25. > :47:31.been fantastic, supporting me so much, so thank you. Thanks, well

:47:32. > :47:36.done. It wasn't to be for Tonia but you could hear how much the support

:47:37. > :47:39.matters. I know that Great Britain's women, who will be in the hockey

:47:40. > :47:43.final this time tomorrow, have appreciated the good luck messages

:47:44. > :47:48.they are getting so we will be nervously watching to see if they

:47:49. > :47:51.can win a gold medal. This is the men's gold-medal match, Belgium into

:47:52. > :47:58.their first final, getting past the Netherlands. Up against Argentina

:47:59. > :48:07.who upset the defending champions, Germany. Argentina leading 3-1. It

:48:08. > :48:13.is the third quarter. COMMENTATOR: Four goals in the first half, very

:48:14. > :48:27.busy, especially for Argentina. The first to strike, Belgium, and then

:48:28. > :48:32.Argentina got one back. The penalty corner specialist then stepped up to

:48:33. > :48:37.get his 11th goal of the Games. Belgium, one, Argentina, free.

:48:38. > :48:46.Inside the first minute of the second half. -- three. Two 15 minute

:48:47. > :48:50.periods to decide who will be the Olympic champion. Neither Belgium

:48:51. > :48:56.nor Argentina have ever won Olympic gold. Your assessment of how things

:48:57. > :49:01.have unfolded? For the neutral it has been exceptional, two teams who

:49:02. > :49:06.are unwilling to sit back, playing to their strengths, delivering time

:49:07. > :49:10.and time again. How the players continue with this physicality,

:49:11. > :49:16.seven Games in 11 days and they are still performing at 100% physically.

:49:17. > :49:20.But as the fatigue creeps in, when do the teams start to make bad

:49:21. > :49:26.decisions and when does the Argentine defence get fractured?

:49:27. > :49:33.Argentina lost two players because of injury and had to bring in two

:49:34. > :49:42.provisional players. They might play just one game and get a gold medal,

:49:43. > :49:45.that's how it works. Germany already with the bronze, having defeated the

:49:46. > :49:51.Netherlands following that penalty shoot out earlier. It's all about

:49:52. > :49:55.the gold now. Argentina with one hand on it, the way the scoreline is

:49:56. > :50:06.and in no rush, but now they make a move. Taken forward by Belgium,

:50:07. > :50:12.attacking the gold to the left. Picked up by Thomas Briels, always

:50:13. > :50:26.exciting to watch. Getting to the edge of the circle.

:50:27. > :50:39.19 years old, Denayer. All the way back to Denayer. He's being given so

:50:40. > :50:46.much time because the Argentine defence is sitting so deep, they are

:50:47. > :50:51.ten yards away. Chance for Belgium. And they get the penalty corner. One

:50:52. > :51:00.of the Argentina players took a fab from a hockey stick in the belly

:51:01. > :51:14.after the attempted shot and there is a team referral. Suggesting that

:51:15. > :51:20.the strike from van Aubel is a fireball. That is a great call if

:51:21. > :51:31.that is the case. At first sight it looked high. Must take into account

:51:32. > :51:38.the fact that the players bend down. No penalty corner after all. Fals

:51:39. > :51:44.hope for Belgium. They go back to their half --. Full stop drilled in

:51:45. > :51:51.hard towards Lopez. From close range he stepped into the tackle. Van

:51:52. > :51:57.Aubel cleverly taking it away from the counterpart to get to the circle

:51:58. > :52:02.and get the shot away. So the video referral that Argentina called was

:52:03. > :52:10.kept which means that they keep their referral option. Aerial ball

:52:11. > :52:11.to the centre of the field, to Ortiz, who is on the scoresheet this

:52:12. > :52:29.evening. Belgium now happy to create the same

:52:30. > :52:33.kind of deep defence that the Argentinians are. They are front

:52:34. > :52:39.marking in the circle rather than back marking. Right on the baseline.

:52:40. > :52:47.Argentina continuing to press forward.

:52:48. > :52:57.For people wondering what Thomas Briels was doing, he fell for the

:52:58. > :53:02.dummy, he was in Croce meaning he couldn't make the tackle. He had to

:53:03. > :53:07.get his body out the way otherwise a penalty corner would have been

:53:08. > :53:15.given. Argentina thrusting forward again. Wild strike, not a bad

:53:16. > :53:22.situation for Callioni, thought he had made contact. A bit of a swing

:53:23. > :53:27.and a mess as -- a mess as the Belgian player got in the way. The

:53:28. > :53:31.danger hasn't received it yet. These crash balls that Argentina like,

:53:32. > :53:37.they thrive on them, players like Callioni like getting on the turf,

:53:38. > :53:47.looking for the tip ins. Break for Belgium. They have it in midfield.

:53:48. > :53:57.Tom Boon, he could turn the game for Belgium if he gets another Guidetti

:53:58. > :54:05.from the penalty corner later. Going back to Luypaert, who is handy with

:54:06. > :54:08.the flick. That was too high for Dohmen to control. The awareness of

:54:09. > :54:15.these players, when the ball goes to a player they must know their next

:54:16. > :54:23.pass. When that went to Luypaert he already knew that had gone down the

:54:24. > :54:36.flank. Argentina have a man down clutching his nose. I think a

:54:37. > :54:47.shoulder went through Rossi. Lukas Rosol is back to his feet. It was

:54:48. > :54:56.his hip, a base to the cheekbone as Truyens stepped in. Belgium with the

:54:57. > :55:02.long korma. Dohmen, all the way back to Van Doran. -- long corner. Taking

:55:03. > :55:08.his opportunity to thread the ball through, hoping to find a team-mate

:55:09. > :55:09.with a chance to put pressure on the Vivaldi, between the sticks for

:55:10. > :55:27.Argentina tonight. Penalty corner awarded for Belgium.

:55:28. > :55:33.Argentina, once again protesting. Are they going upstairs? They are.

:55:34. > :55:41.With the same question I think, lifted ball.

:55:42. > :55:52.Checking to see if the ball is dangerous or not. It isn't pure

:55:53. > :56:03.height, it is about danger. It is a raised ball, but outside the circle.

:56:04. > :56:10.On the edge of the circle. The attackers. It won't be a penalty

:56:11. > :56:18.corner. So it has been lifted by Argentina into the circle. Therefore

:56:19. > :56:22.Belgium are being given a free hit. Does that mean, I'm not sure, does

:56:23. > :56:31.that mean that they keep the referral? I didn't hear that. Mayer,

:56:32. > :56:35.nor did I, so we are in the dark. -- no. I assume that Argentina still

:56:36. > :56:48.have the option but Belgium are continuing to press here. The

:56:49. > :56:59.service is meant for Cosyns but Argentina got a stick in before.

:57:00. > :57:02.Nice pass from Boccard. Hoping to get a return but Argentina break.

:57:03. > :57:18.The Belgian players dropping. Belgium on their way down the right

:57:19. > :57:27.again. It might be too strong. It is, it's behind. Moments ago we saw

:57:28. > :57:31.the coach getting animated on the bench. For me, his vocals will be

:57:32. > :57:36.crucial to the discipline of Argentina. If he gets loud and

:57:37. > :57:42.animated, his players will, and then they get a little bit out of

:57:43. > :57:45.control. We've seen it over the years for Argentina. Discipline is

:57:46. > :57:52.crucial for them to keep the 11 players on the pitch. Striding

:57:53. > :57:55.purposefully downfield, laying it off beautifully. Argentina taking it

:57:56. > :58:01.out of the circle, trying to find a way back in. Taken beautifully, but

:58:02. > :58:24.Boccard with a beautiful tackle. This match will be switching to BBC

:58:25. > :58:32.Two very shortly, you need to go to BBC Two to follow the men's Olympic

:58:33. > :58:40.final through to its conclusion. Belgium continuing to pick up, to

:58:41. > :58:41.try and be creative and inventive and get something out of this third

:58:42. > :58:59.quarter. The referee blowing his whistle, we

:59:00. > :59:03.can't hear it over the crowd. The ball was played through the legs of

:59:04. > :59:13.the Belgian defence. In doing so, creating the obstruction.

:59:14. > :59:19.STUDIO: Passions running high in the gold-medal match between Argentina

:59:20. > :59:24.and Belgium, neither of whom had ever taken the Olympic title in

:59:25. > :59:27.men's hockey. Welcome to viewers on BBC Two, we are leaving you now on

:59:28. > :59:29.BBC One, where this time
