:00:51. > :01:00.Hello and welcome to Rio Replay, highlights of the action from

:01:01. > :01:01.yesterday at the Rio Olympic Games, this is what we have in store for

:01:02. > :01:13.you today. We will be live to see if taekwondo

:01:14. > :01:22.player Jade Jones can defend her 57 kilograms title, she fights at 2am

:01:23. > :01:25.against a very tough Spanish rival. Usain Bolt, meanwhile, wants to take

:01:26. > :01:32.his tally to eight in the 200 metres final.

:01:33. > :01:34.Canada's Ondrej Duda grass might have something to say about that,

:01:35. > :02:12.however. She will line up in the same

:02:13. > :02:15.semifinal as the overwhelming And Charlie Grice takes to the track

:02:16. > :02:31.in the 1,500m semifinals. We have got so much sport for you

:02:32. > :02:33.this evening, but we cannot wait for the athletics, let's join the team

:02:34. > :03:08.at the stadium. Will be all about Michael

:03:09. > :03:13.Johnson at the front. The world record beckons

:03:14. > :03:18.and it's gone! He takes it and Michael Johnson's

:03:19. > :03:27.record has gone. Time certainly is a very big factor

:03:28. > :03:44.in this sport, and I hope you're going to have a very good time

:03:45. > :03:47.tonight, because we have a fantastic And I'm delighted that Paula

:03:48. > :03:50.and Denise and Michael are alongside me to enjoy it,

:03:51. > :03:54.and if you could pick one thing tonight looking forward to, Michael,

:03:55. > :03:57.what is it going to be? I'm looking forward

:03:58. > :04:00.to the 200m race that's for those other medals,

:04:01. > :04:08.and it's going to be interesting. That's the problem with Bolt -

:04:09. > :04:14.if there's a problem with him he takes attention away and sucks up

:04:15. > :04:18.all the air in the room. But there are other guys

:04:19. > :04:20.there who want a medal. We'll look at your analysis

:04:21. > :04:30.in a bit of time. Denise? I think for me the other great

:04:31. > :04:33.athlete that will be finishing tonight is Ashton Eaton in the men's

:04:34. > :04:36.decathlon, he's one of the unsung We got a huge character like Usain,

:04:37. > :04:42.but he's on for another Olympic medal and he has had

:04:43. > :04:45.a gruelling two days for these guys. They had no time to stop and breathe

:04:46. > :04:49.and take in just how It would be nice to see him get

:04:50. > :04:56.decorated tonight. Paula? There's all the things

:04:57. > :04:59.we have talked about. The women's 400m hurdles final,

:05:00. > :05:01.and I think also women's 800m semifinals and men's

:05:02. > :05:04.1,500m semifinals. I want to see our guys and girls

:05:05. > :05:10.move through those tough semifinals. OK. Let's put that all into context

:05:11. > :05:12.for you and show you how the evening

:05:13. > :05:17.is shaping up. The roar you heard behind me

:05:18. > :05:21.there were for the men in the men's shot put final being introduced

:05:22. > :05:26.to the crowd. At 12:45 it's those semifinals that

:05:27. > :05:28.Paula was talking about. Charlie Grice

:05:29. > :05:30.and Chris O'Hare going in that. The women's javelin finals

:05:31. > :05:32.going from 1:10, And the decathlon comes

:05:33. > :05:44.to a dramatic - it always is. They do look like the wounded

:05:45. > :05:46.warriors when they go And the women's hurdles finals

:05:47. > :05:51.with Doyle in the line-up at 2:15. And then there's the small matter

:05:52. > :05:55.of Usain Bolt attempting to win his However, there is also a Jade Jones

:05:56. > :06:02.going and her fight is - her gold medal fight is at 2 o'clock

:06:03. > :06:06.in the morning. So we will be going over

:06:07. > :06:08.there and you will get that live here on BBC One -

:06:09. > :06:11.have no fear. But, of course, that 200m

:06:12. > :06:15.is the one for the evening, potentially the last time

:06:16. > :06:20.we will see Usain Bolt running a 200m, certainly

:06:21. > :06:22.an Olympic 200m. Through the ages there have been

:06:23. > :06:28.some classic 200m races. Let's have a walk

:06:29. > :06:30.back in the archives. There they go,

:06:31. > :07:02.there's Bobby Smithers. Smith demonstrating clearly

:07:03. > :07:05.to the world there that he is They got away have smoothly, and

:07:06. > :07:44.look at him, Carl Lewis is away. Carl Lewis leading and being

:07:45. > :07:46.chased by the Brazilian. Lane six is Boulton

:07:47. > :08:17.and Fredericks but it's Johnson. They get away and left

:08:18. > :08:34.in the blocks of USA, Bolden just in the lead

:08:35. > :08:41.as they come into the bend. He's going to get there,

:08:42. > :08:47.and Bolden probably third. Away they go, and Usain Bolt

:08:48. > :09:05.already going past as if he wasn't there,

:09:06. > :09:12.blasting around that top end, Bold, Dicks running

:09:13. > :09:13.into second place. Trying to hang on to

:09:14. > :09:17.the tall Jamaican. It's a clean start, Bolt is out

:09:18. > :09:36.of the start really well. It's a three metres lead and they're

:09:37. > :09:42.coming to the home straight. We were saying to you just

:09:43. > :10:03.a bit earlier - I love the 200m. I think more than the 100m

:10:04. > :10:06.because of the bend and because it's a bit longer and you get

:10:07. > :10:09.to enjoy it a bit longer, but also it's got those gear changes

:10:10. > :10:13.that make it a bit more - You can sit back and enjoy it a bit

:10:14. > :10:20.longer than you can than the 100m. We're sitting here, you can.

:10:21. > :10:30.But you can enjoy the 200m. It's a beautiful event,

:10:31. > :10:36.like you said, coming around the bend, gives it a bit

:10:37. > :10:38.more visual interest, and, you know, how you actually

:10:39. > :10:41.transition from running around the bend on to the straight,

:10:42. > :10:43.two completely different components of the race in terms

:10:44. > :10:45.of biomechanics. Let's look at the racers,

:10:46. > :10:49.but also at Bolt as well. because there's some news

:10:50. > :10:56.developing in the decathlon. The penultimate event

:10:57. > :11:02.of the decathlon is the javelin, there's Kevin Mayer of France,

:11:03. > :11:09.having the event of his life. This is the first-round throw,

:11:10. > :11:14.it was his best. Absolutely smashed it

:11:15. > :11:19.across the two days. Five lifetime bests

:11:20. > :11:21.coming into this javelin. Lifetime best is 66m,

:11:22. > :11:26.he's just shy of that. He's going to break the French

:11:27. > :11:33.record quite comfortably. So Ashton Eaton absolutely superb

:11:34. > :11:46.across the two days as well. It hasn't been the runaway victory

:11:47. > :11:51.that many talked about, but it's been convincing,

:11:52. > :11:55.his coach there, Harry, behind. Round three was his best - big

:11:56. > :12:00.scream from the reigning champion. And that would be enough

:12:01. > :12:11.just to keep him in the lead, but Mayer closing down the gap, five

:12:12. > :12:18.metres difference, the Frenchman. Five metres better than Eaton's best

:12:19. > :12:29.in that third round. The man currently in third place

:12:30. > :12:32.overall is Damian Warner of Canada. And his best was also

:12:33. > :12:37.in the third round. Took him the three throws to get him

:12:38. > :12:53.over the 60m mark. So it looks as though

:12:54. > :12:57.the medals are maybe set Long couple of days and Warner may

:12:58. > :13:05.have toll settle for a bronze. Just the 1500m to decide

:13:06. > :13:07.where the medals are Once all the points were tallied,

:13:08. > :13:18.put in the system, there you can see

:13:19. > :13:24.the total points after nine events. Ashton Eaton, as anticipated, out

:13:25. > :13:29.in front but only a 44-point lead over Kevin Mayer, and that equates

:13:30. > :13:32.to about 6.5 seconds over 1500m. Ahead of

:13:33. > :13:38.Warner, just the 1500m left. Is there any danger that Ashton

:13:39. > :13:45.Eaton might not retain this gold? I don't think so.

:13:46. > :13:49.I mean, if he has to run for it, he really will,

:13:50. > :13:52.and he's capable of doing that. Let's not jinx him.

:13:53. > :13:54.Going to be very exciting. Going to be a rate,

:13:55. > :13:58.not a formality, though. No, gone are the days when you see

:13:59. > :14:03.the likes of Dally Thompson This will be a proper race,

:14:04. > :14:08.I can guarantee it. because he didn't

:14:09. > :14:13.have much of a 1500m. I can say that,

:14:14. > :14:15.because he's not here! Let's go back to the 200m

:14:16. > :14:20.and have a look at Bolt. I know you've got some

:14:21. > :14:23.analysis to look for us. For Bolt, this was interesting

:14:24. > :14:26.in his semifinal, we didn't see the interaction with the crowd

:14:27. > :14:30.and the jubilant nature that he normally displays,

:14:31. > :14:33.this was yesterday morning. Bolt told us before

:14:34. > :14:35.he's not a morning person, and I expected him to come off

:14:36. > :14:41.a little bit more of a lead here. but not much over

:14:42. > :14:46.Andre De Grasse there. And Adam Gemili,

:14:47. > :14:48.he opens it up a little bit De Grasse actually pushed him

:14:49. > :14:54.to the finish line and there was a bit of playing around

:14:55. > :14:57.and that sort of thing going on, but this ended up actually impacting

:14:58. > :15:02.the final that we're going to see tonight because De Grasse

:15:03. > :15:06.ends up in lane four, with both of his main rivals

:15:07. > :15:11.being Andre De Grasse and LaShawn Merritt

:15:12. > :15:15.on the inside of him. But he just wasn't in a real best,

:15:16. > :15:32.you know, mood yesterday and he said He turned down the volume

:15:33. > :15:40.on the razzmatazz. That was interesting to see

:15:41. > :15:43.and he commented afterwards he felt a little tired, didn't feel

:15:44. > :15:46.the pop he normally does. But based on what we saw earlier

:15:47. > :15:49.today on the warm-up track, Yeah, the girls might

:15:50. > :15:54.have seen that. He was - Michael was chatting

:15:55. > :15:57.earlier with Mark Chapman and Usain Probably some sort of

:15:58. > :16:11.reggae getting his body You can tell us what you think,

:16:12. > :16:17.Denise, when you see the moves He's going to need it around

:16:18. > :16:26.those bends, isn't he. Let's move on to

:16:27. > :16:33.LaShawn Merritt who, of course, got the bronze

:16:34. > :16:36.in the 400m, he was disappointed with that, but he's let the world

:16:37. > :16:40.know he's here for this 200m. I don't know how disappointed

:16:41. > :16:42.he actually was with the 400m. He wanted to win it, after,

:16:43. > :16:49.you know, a world record was run, he probably wasn't as disappointed

:16:50. > :16:52.but I think he's turned his Got the fastest time in the world

:16:53. > :16:58.this year still, and he ran very well here and using that 400m

:16:59. > :17:02.strength that he has, he doesn't blaze around the turn

:17:03. > :17:05.like you might see a Usain Bolt do, but he's able to run a really good

:17:06. > :17:09.solid race from start to finish, using that strength,

:17:10. > :17:11.he's very powerful, and very tough - He believes in himself,

:17:12. > :17:19.he knows he can run longer than anyone else in the race

:17:20. > :17:25.because of his 400m prowess, a 400m man, and this goes back

:17:26. > :17:28.to high school and college. He actually ran the

:17:29. > :17:32.200m in high school. So you know, he has that experience

:17:33. > :17:36.and he will - he will see this as an opportunity to do something

:17:37. > :17:38.special in the sport - We will talk more

:17:39. > :17:41.about the 200m later. Look at the other contenders

:17:42. > :17:43.in the field, including And Paula, there's Charlie Grice out

:17:44. > :17:48.there for the first Lucky to be there in

:17:49. > :17:51.many ways. Ingebrigtsen deserved

:17:52. > :18:00.to be disqualified. He needs to run his best here today

:18:01. > :18:05.because it is a tough semifinal. Well, he has another

:18:06. > :18:07.role of the dice. Steve Cram and Brendan Foster

:18:08. > :18:13.are your commentators for this one. This isn't going to be easy

:18:14. > :18:15.for Charlie Grice Charlie in this first one

:18:16. > :18:27.and Philip Ingebrigtsen, the younger brother

:18:28. > :18:31.of Henrik Ingebrigtsen, in fact, all although Henrik

:18:32. > :18:33.Ingebrigtsen is more well-known, Charlie was fading badly

:18:34. > :18:44.and probably a bit fortunate So let's look at the shot

:18:45. > :19:05.put, though, Steve. Early lead, the competitor from

:19:06. > :19:10.Congo. Around the Olympic Stadium,

:19:11. > :19:25.the big men are out and they want The shot put final

:19:26. > :19:49.going on, of course. Lots of names you'll recognise,

:19:50. > :19:51.Nick Willis, Ingebrigtsen, getting Seurei is in here, former Kenyan

:19:52. > :19:57.running for Bahrain, And the champion from

:19:58. > :20:05.2008 and the champion Add people in there

:20:06. > :20:14.like Blankenship. They're always going to be,

:20:15. > :20:26.the 1,500m semifinals, we saw with the women,

:20:27. > :20:29.the standard how high it is. Makhloufi won a silver medal

:20:30. > :20:31.in the 800m could well challenge. So Kiprop, though,

:20:32. > :20:33.looks a little nervous. They will trust their pace

:20:34. > :20:36.at the end. That's why they're in

:20:37. > :20:43.the semifinal including Charlie, he's got to put what happened

:20:44. > :20:45.in the heats to Ingebrigtsen, European champion back

:20:46. > :20:58.in Olympic year 2012. Nick Willis, well,

:20:59. > :21:01.he sashayed his way. And Iguider can finish

:21:02. > :21:06.quickly as well. And this man can be very

:21:07. > :21:11.dangerous in the rounds, he doesn't have the -

:21:12. > :21:14.such quick times although he has run a new national record

:21:15. > :21:18.this year of 3:33.36. But the Czech Republic competitor

:21:19. > :21:24.can sprint as well. As ever, we'll see them sprint off

:21:25. > :21:38.the line and then just curious as to see whether anybody really

:21:39. > :21:40.wants to settle and make Ingebrigtsen at the back,

:21:41. > :21:46.didn't sprint off the line. Little bit of a jog,

:21:47. > :21:56.if you think back to the women's 1,500m final, it

:21:57. > :21:57.became an 800m race. Grice learnt a lesson in the heats

:21:58. > :22:03.that everybody can sprint. So sometimes - I don't think Charlie

:22:04. > :22:06.will want to go to the front, of course he won't, but just has

:22:07. > :22:09.to be really aware, get himself in the best position possible

:22:10. > :22:15.when they get in the last two laps. After watching him the other day

:22:16. > :22:18.in the first round and that - I thought he was fading

:22:19. > :22:21.in the later stages. You got two Olympic champions,

:22:22. > :22:26.you got two Olympic medallists. And there's only five to go

:22:27. > :22:34.through and the first lap has been 63 seconds, so they're now

:22:35. > :22:37.beginning to move along. I think the faster race

:22:38. > :22:41.will suit Charlie Grice but there he is settling down,

:22:42. > :22:43.at least they're going at a reasonable pace,

:22:44. > :22:47.that means less problems, going to get less trouble

:22:48. > :22:51.bumping into one another. And Kiprop at the back,

:22:52. > :22:54.probably the favourite. He is the favourite

:22:55. > :22:56.but Makhloufi is in there, They're all medallists in the 1,500m

:22:57. > :23:04.in the Olympic Games. Normally they start to speed up

:23:05. > :23:26.here because they went fast then slowed again,

:23:27. > :23:28.this is now going to become as ever a big sprint

:23:29. > :23:31.over the last 5 or 600m. This is the lap he needs to get

:23:32. > :23:36.himself in a better place than that. It will be fast and fast and fast,

:23:37. > :23:43.and he's got to make his move. Down the back straight,

:23:44. > :23:46.Charlie Grice on the inside. who are faster than him,

:23:47. > :23:51.surrounded by people who have run Going to have to do

:23:52. > :23:57.an awful amount of work. Needs a bit of a break

:23:58. > :24:01.to get lucky here. He's in a bad spot there,

:24:02. > :24:04.but you can't panic now. Too many bodies around,

:24:05. > :24:06.as Seurei is the first to break Charlie just dipped

:24:07. > :24:09.back inside there. Following Nick Willis as they come

:24:10. > :24:13.around to take the bell. They come to the bell

:24:14. > :24:18.and here comes Asbel Kiprop, former Olympic champion

:24:19. > :24:19.on the outside. You can see them lining

:24:20. > :24:25.across three abreast. Right in the middle there

:24:26. > :24:27.is Charlie Grice as they go That was faster, and now

:24:28. > :24:32.they're really stretching. Kiprop gliding down the back

:24:33. > :24:40.straight, Blankenship moves, Charlie Grice looking for some room

:24:41. > :24:43.on the inside and he gets it. Can't be guaranteed

:24:44. > :24:50.a time at this place. Charlie Grice is going

:24:51. > :24:57.to have to dig deep. Makhloufi, Willis, Blankenship,

:24:58. > :25:08.Iguider, Charlie Grice fifth. He may have been fortunate

:25:09. > :25:18.to make it through. What he didn't do is,

:25:19. > :25:25.as I said to the bell, is not panic. He realised he was in

:25:26. > :25:27.a not good position, and when you're in that position,

:25:28. > :25:34.you cross your fingers and you hope, two things happen

:25:35. > :25:39.for him, he's managed to sneak

:25:40. > :25:41.through, past at 200 to go. If that had been blocked off,

:25:42. > :25:44.he was finished. If Blankenship had not finished

:25:45. > :25:46.as strongly in the home straight, then Charlie would have struggled

:25:47. > :25:49.as well to recover from. And John, his coach, they must have

:25:50. > :26:00.been nervous the other day. They had some doubts

:26:01. > :26:02.about him the other day. Into the Olympic final,

:26:03. > :26:05.got to be delighted with that. His strength, is probably better

:26:06. > :26:14.than his speed, but there they go. As Steve was saying

:26:15. > :26:16.during commentary, he never got He's in amongst the runners

:26:17. > :26:19.all around him, a push there which gave him a bit

:26:20. > :26:23.of a chance, a bit of a fortunate move through on the inside and look

:26:24. > :26:26.how far behind Kiprop is. As they stretch there now,

:26:27. > :26:28.as Kiprop, four runners abreast at this point,

:26:29. > :26:30.down the back straight, Blankenship on the bend,

:26:31. > :26:36.Kiprop on his shoulder and there the Olympic champion,

:26:37. > :26:38.Makhloufi alongside him, so there's no shortage

:26:39. > :26:46.of talent there. Certainly isn't, but there

:26:47. > :26:49.is a determination in Charlie Grice. Look at that one - very,

:26:50. > :26:51.very lucky there to get He comes quickly there,

:26:52. > :26:55.Kiprop coasting, Makhloufi coasting, here comes Willis on the outside

:26:56. > :26:58.and Blankenship just leaning forward and Charlie Grice,

:26:59. > :27:05.he wasn't sure about it, but he was fifth in that one,

:27:06. > :27:08.that was in the first five But on the inside,

:27:09. > :27:13.Charlie Grice seeing his chance, That's why he's trained

:27:14. > :27:21.so hard - to get there. Makhloufi and Kiprop,

:27:22. > :27:25.two Olympic champions ahead of him. Well done Charlie Grice and he's

:27:26. > :27:29.downstairs there talking with Phil. A big well done from

:27:30. > :27:32.Brendan and Steve. To come fifth place,

:27:33. > :27:42.when the pace was slow, I was kind of a bit nervous,

:27:43. > :27:46.but I knew my speed was good and I ran awful on Tuesday,

:27:47. > :27:49.I don't know what happened. I just told myself to stay patient

:27:50. > :27:52.and, yeah, glad I redeemed myself, I think the key there

:27:53. > :27:58.was not to panic. I mean, it was a definitely

:27:59. > :28:06.a fight of a finish there, but I told myself to stay

:28:07. > :28:09.on the inside, and a few times - people were cutting in and stuff

:28:10. > :28:21.so I was glad I stayed on my feet. Olympic finalist, can you take

:28:22. > :28:22.it in? So, yeah, on to the

:28:23. > :28:26.final in two days. So rest up and going

:28:27. > :28:28.to be a cracker. Well done, Charlie, we wish you well

:28:29. > :28:31.for the final. So by six hundredths

:28:32. > :28:39.of a second, that's all. There you see the results -

:28:40. > :28:43.top five only to go through and that They would have seen that,

:28:44. > :28:46.they can go faster, Looking forward to see

:28:47. > :28:57.what this man can do, Ryan Crouser, US champion, he's 6ft

:28:58. > :29:00.7 and he rotates in the shot. Ryan Crouser in the second

:29:01. > :29:06.round of the shot put, his team-mate - Kovacs -

:29:07. > :29:10.in the lead at the That almost certainly -

:29:11. > :29:18.well it's beyond it. Crouser - inexperienced,

:29:19. > :29:24.no previous form to talk Just given everyone something to

:29:25. > :29:30.talk about. Kiprop looked good in that first

:29:31. > :29:41.heat who was the strong favourite. And they have another

:29:42. > :29:44.contender here, Kenya. Should have had two in here,

:29:45. > :29:47.but Elijah Motonei Manangoi is out Bronze over 800 in the world

:29:48. > :29:55.champions, he's got A junior world record

:29:56. > :30:27.holder with 3.28.21 That was exactly the same

:30:28. > :30:31.mark as Mo Farah. Ryan Gregson, the Australian

:30:32. > :30:34.champion, showed very good speed And Matthew Centrowitz Jr

:30:35. > :30:51.world indoor champion. Fourth in the Olympic

:30:52. > :30:59.final in London. But Chris O'Hare, he's called

:31:00. > :31:02.himself a bit of a terrier, he'll be O'Hare five from the front

:31:03. > :31:19.there and immediately taken out And in behind is Centrowitz

:31:20. > :31:31.and the Spaniard as well, Bustos. Here, we talk about tactics

:31:32. > :31:33.in the 1500, and perhaps Grice doesn't get it right,

:31:34. > :31:38.but has great speed. He always seems to get

:31:39. > :31:42.the tactics right. I tell you what - it means seven

:31:43. > :31:56.of these athletes could go through, every one of these athletes has

:31:57. > :31:59.run faster than 3.40, that's immediately a little bit

:32:00. > :32:01.quicker than in the first round. In the middle there,

:32:02. > :32:05.having an easy run there, having a nice position,

:32:06. > :32:07.which seems to be less crowding there, as they go faster,

:32:08. > :32:10.coming through there with 59.6. This is a big advantage

:32:11. > :32:19.for this field. I think all seven of these

:32:20. > :32:21.could come from the two fastest losers and the five

:32:22. > :32:24.could come from this heat. A big advantage as Kwemoi

:32:25. > :32:27.comes to the front. Manangoi has been ruled out

:32:28. > :32:30.with a hamstring injury. You could get seven going

:32:31. > :32:40.through from this one. The Canadian just steadying

:32:41. > :32:42.himself with the arm. then they were in

:32:43. > :32:46.the first semifinal. Running a good race

:32:47. > :32:51.here, Chris O'Hare. Just on the outside on the shoulder

:32:52. > :32:54.of Centrowitz, who I would be sure

:32:55. > :32:56.would be qualifying from this one. Steady running,

:32:57. > :32:58.it's not hard running, pretty steady, probably a little

:32:59. > :33:01.slower than Chris O'Hare. Now deciding he wants

:33:02. > :33:04.to take a bit closer. He's going to put himself

:33:05. > :33:09.in with a chance of being and producing that finish and this

:33:10. > :33:12.is a good run from Chris O'Hare. And it's pretty much the same

:33:13. > :33:17.as the first one. They have slowed it down

:33:18. > :33:22.a bit, just inside that. So perhaps might not be two fastest

:33:23. > :33:26.losers going through. Centrowitz just realises

:33:27. > :33:29.and edges forward. Sixth place at the moment

:33:30. > :33:34.with Chris O'Hare. Just easing his way

:33:35. > :33:43.on the inside of the runner. He is in a good position,

:33:44. > :33:47.looks as though they're increasing their

:33:48. > :33:51.options of qualifying. Chris O'Hare doing well

:33:52. > :33:56.and following Centrowitz. So as they hit the bell,

:33:57. > :34:02.it's Suleman out the front. Just that little bit

:34:03. > :34:06.of extra distance to run. A little bit bumped but I think he's

:34:07. > :34:13.now perfectly poised. If he's got the sprint finish,

:34:14. > :34:16.we know he has, First five to go

:34:17. > :34:21.through automatically. They're all bunched up again,

:34:22. > :34:23.and so many in contention. This is where he likes

:34:24. > :34:27.to go from, 250m out. Round the bend, gritting his teeth

:34:28. > :34:30.and digging in and setting that job. Nobody shows the effort

:34:31. > :34:32.more than O'Hare. O'Hare goes at it again

:34:33. > :34:46.and doesn't have it in the legs. Suleman is there and Kwemoi

:34:47. > :34:48.and Gregson and the second It was Robbie Andrews

:34:49. > :34:55.for the fifth place. And O'Hare had nothing

:34:56. > :34:58.down the home straight, A man who's been to the finals

:34:59. > :35:04.of the World Championships, desperately wanted to get

:35:05. > :35:09.to the final of an Olympic Games. But despite giving everything,

:35:10. > :35:13.as he always does, and he puts himself

:35:14. > :35:15.in the right positions, but he just didn't have

:35:16. > :35:17.the speed in the legs. He didn't do anything wrong

:35:18. > :35:19.in that race. He was perfectly poised

:35:20. > :35:23.at every point. He matched the pace,

:35:24. > :35:26.which really wasn't quick. But there, a sad figure

:35:27. > :35:33.of Chris O'Hare, one of this large Scottish contingent

:35:34. > :35:39.presenting Great Britain here. He knows the Olympic final

:35:40. > :35:41.was a real potential for him, and sadly he's not

:35:42. > :35:50.going to experience it. Centrowitz is following him

:35:51. > :35:57.in a good place all the time. Here, Chris O'Hare is

:35:58. > :35:59.perfectly positioned. the pace was strong enough

:36:00. > :36:04.at this point. And then just a little bit

:36:05. > :36:08.in the back straight, a little bit of fading

:36:09. > :36:11.there from Chris O'Hare, and I wonder if that's

:36:12. > :36:20.sudden acceleration actually is why he paid the price

:36:21. > :36:22.in the home straight. And at that point, Chris O'Hare,

:36:23. > :36:26.you might have bet on him at this point, but no,

:36:27. > :36:29.into the point, and then suddenly, it's gone and when it goes

:36:30. > :36:32.like that, the legs have gone, the fatigue is setting in,

:36:33. > :36:36.that burst of speed I think he's paid the price for Gregson

:36:37. > :36:40.of Australia coming through, A couple of other things to look out

:36:41. > :36:46.for - see Robbie Andrews there, he just about stepped on the rail

:36:47. > :36:55.on the inside of the track, as he was trying to come down,

:36:56. > :36:58.just watch him here on the inside. He's trying to get

:36:59. > :36:59.around Gebremedhin. You just see his...

:37:00. > :37:03.He has locked him in with 200 to go. if there is a disqualification

:37:04. > :37:24.for Robbie Andrews. Painful to watch.

:37:25. > :37:37.His thoughts. Obviously you are disappointed not

:37:38. > :37:42.to make the Olympic final. What didn't work?

:37:43. > :37:52.I am not sure. And then I tried to turn

:37:53. > :38:02.it on in the last 100 It was disappointing,

:38:03. > :38:06.because I wanted to do so much better for my family and my team

:38:07. > :38:08.and everybody at home And it was just really disappointing

:38:09. > :38:13.for them as well as myself. I thought I was good enough

:38:14. > :38:16.but obviously not. You were in a great position.

:38:17. > :38:19.Tactically you get it spot on. Anything you would have

:38:20. > :38:26.done differently? No, I mean, I think, I can't,

:38:27. > :38:28.obviously, I will have to go

:38:29. > :38:31.back and watch the race. But at the moment I don't feel

:38:32. > :38:34.I have done anything wrong. You know, I guess

:38:35. > :38:37.that is all I can do. But, you know, it was disappointing

:38:38. > :38:43.when I have put all this work in in and I thought I was good enough

:38:44. > :38:50.and I am... I just wasn't. We appreciate you talking to us.

:38:51. > :38:54.Thank you. Chris O'Hare, still a reasonably

:38:55. > :38:56.young man, 25, I am sure

:38:57. > :38:58.he will be back to try again. And the Spaniard failed and couldn't

:38:59. > :39:15.get there to Robbie Andrews. The women's 400 metre hurdle final

:39:16. > :39:21.is coming up later on this evening. One of the finals of

:39:22. > :39:32.the morning session. Away safely this time.

:39:33. > :39:38.Thomas will have Clement to chase. Just a metre or two down.

:39:39. > :39:41.The two Kenyans going well. Thomas tried to stay

:39:42. > :39:50.in contact with the American. Chopping down on to the hurdle.

:39:51. > :39:55.Thomas will finish quickly. Don't write him off.

:39:56. > :40:02.It is Clement leading it. White is there.

:40:03. > :40:04.Thomas is a long way off. Clement is checking

:40:05. > :40:15.into the final hurdle. Here comes the Kenyan!

:40:16. > :40:18.It will be close. Thomas just missing out

:40:19. > :40:43.by five hundredths of a second on what would have been

:40:44. > :40:49.a wonderful medal. A Kenyan record after

:40:50. > :40:59.the World Championships last year. But what a return to the top

:41:00. > :41:07.of the podium, literally, He burst onto the scene

:41:08. > :41:16.as a youngster 10, 11 years ago. We thought he would be brilliant

:41:17. > :41:19.then. All sorts of issues in his life

:41:20. > :41:34.and career which you have seen him

:41:35. > :41:37.come back in fine form. An event which we were worried

:41:38. > :41:43.about all year being maybe a little bit average,

:41:44. > :41:45.if you like, it turned out to be a little bit

:41:46. > :41:48.of a classic in the end. Puerto Rico with a false start

:41:49. > :41:51.and not able to contest it. But the USA is once more on top

:41:52. > :41:55.in the 400 metre hurdles That is the first time since Sydney

:41:56. > :43:16.2000 that all the medallists have run under 48 seconds

:43:17. > :43:20.in the Olympic final. The Olympic world champion

:43:21. > :43:34.in 400 metre hurdles. Ryan took the wind out of everyone's

:43:35. > :43:41.sails with that world leading putt. It is over 22 metres

:43:42. > :43:57.again for Crouser! And the young man is putting

:43:58. > :44:10.together a series of his life. He is closing in, possibly,

:44:11. > :44:13.on the Olympic record, 22.47. Ryan Crouser, holding

:44:14. > :44:23.all the aces at the moment. Neither of them have been

:44:24. > :44:44.to the Olympics before. A two-horse race as we wait for this

:44:45. > :44:54.distance to be measured. And his competitor is not

:44:55. > :45:10.exactly a small man either. Let us have a look at

:45:11. > :45:23.Charlie Grice in the 450 metres. -- Let us have a look

:45:24. > :45:25.at Charlie Grice from 450 metres. This is a totally different

:45:26. > :45:32.Charlie Grice that turned up today than we saw racing in the heats

:45:33. > :45:45.Charlie Grice did get lucky, as was pointed out, in the,

:45:46. > :45:50.when we were watching it, he was lucky.

:45:51. > :45:56.Blankenship was moving quickly he got away through.

:45:57. > :46:13.He was lucky as Blankenship moved slightly wide.

:46:14. > :46:15.But Charlie Grice had the reaction he did not have

:46:16. > :46:20.into third at one point and hold on for the qualifying

:46:21. > :46:23.At that point, he would not have been certain that the fastest

:46:24. > :46:30.I think the two fastest losers did come from that heat in the end.

:46:31. > :46:43.He was looking up at the rerun to make sure he got the fifth placed.

:46:44. > :46:53.The Olympic medal was already in his pocket.

:46:54. > :46:58.Blankenship, and Michael in particular, believes

:46:59. > :47:00.that they should be taught not to open the door and let

:47:01. > :47:06.That was quite a big invite from Blankenship, wasn't it?

:47:07. > :47:17.And Robbie Andrews who may get disqualified in the second

:47:18. > :47:24.semi-final for taking steps on the infield to get past.

:47:25. > :47:47.Lizze Sharp representing Great Britain.

:47:48. > :47:50.I think the first semi-final is the hardest and neither of our girls

:47:51. > :47:56.On paper you will look at that and see it is a tough one.

:47:57. > :47:58.But I think it is doable for Lindsay.

:47:59. > :48:03.She puts herself in a better position.

:48:04. > :48:11.Looking to do that today, fingers crossed.

:48:12. > :48:17.I know you have to join Andrew in the commentary box.

:48:18. > :48:20.They are taking position on the track.

:48:21. > :48:28.The first semi-final with Margaret and of course

:48:29. > :48:39.I am doing well on my pronunciation tonight, I tell you.

:48:40. > :48:42.There is a man who can pronounce these names better and his name

:48:43. > :49:01.If there are two women who could push Semenya in the semi-final,

:49:02. > :49:07.A note on the 1500 metres we saw with Robbie Andrews, the American,

:49:08. > :49:09.that result has gone official for now.

:49:10. > :49:14.But even American colleagues thought he would be disqualified.

:49:15. > :49:26.It is Ryan Crouser in the fourth round.

:49:27. > :49:29.The top eight only to progress to the second half of

:49:30. > :49:44.One of the best series of putts I have seen ever.

:49:45. > :49:50.Ryan Crouser, we didn't know how he was going to handle the pressure.

:49:51. > :49:57.The US champion ahead of Kovacs earlier this summer.

:49:58. > :50:02.Other than that it has been all Kovacs.

:50:03. > :50:04.Here at the Games, the big one, big prizes on offer.

:50:05. > :50:12.The men's 200 metre final is in about 1.5 hours.

:50:13. > :50:16.Usain Bolt is of course going in that one.

:50:17. > :50:18.But we are ready for the first semi-final

:50:19. > :50:34.We mentioned the two great strengths of

:50:35. > :50:42.Took almost two seconds of her personal best.

:50:43. > :51:02.There is Wilson, second in the US trials.

:51:03. > :51:13.She took the title in March in Oregon which is

:51:14. > :51:28.The new 1500 metre champion, a slow race in Amsterdam last month,

:51:29. > :51:35.The 800 metre champion of Europe after winning in Amsterdam.

:51:36. > :52:02.The Italian, cleared in March to run for her new country.

:52:03. > :52:11.The 20-year-old, last year's junior champion.

:52:12. > :52:13.A great run, her personal best, two-minutes dead.

:52:14. > :52:21.Wonderful conditions inside the stadium.

:52:22. > :52:30.The first of the women's 800m semi-final.

:52:31. > :52:43.Two to go through automatically plus two fastest losers.

:52:44. > :52:49.A great power in the later stages, looking to see if it is brisk

:52:50. > :54:06.The European champion looking for a fast finish.

:54:07. > :54:28.The two we highlighted are the two that go through automatically.

:54:29. > :54:32.Wambui with her great strength takes her win.

:54:33. > :54:37.Niyonsaba, looked around, let her have it.

:54:38. > :54:41.Wambui and Niyonsaba through to the final.

:54:42. > :54:53.Wilson in third place held that position.

:54:54. > :54:55.Had a little bit of competition, Nataliya Pryshchepa came

:54:56. > :55:02.through but she needed this to be a little bit quicker.

:55:03. > :55:05.Only two fastest losers from the three semifinals

:55:06. > :55:08.and the others could go quicker than that.

:55:09. > :55:15.She looked like she was easing and relaxing.

:55:16. > :55:18.The two in front could relax but she needed to go as fast

:55:19. > :55:30.She is pushing hard once her work is done, a little look to Wambui,

:55:31. > :55:45.Always aware of where the third-place athlete is.

:55:46. > :55:59.Those times were not quite quick enough.

:56:00. > :56:02.Four women under two minutes but will that be quick enough?

:56:03. > :56:20.World indoor champion from New Zealand.

:56:21. > :56:35.The second round in fact was his best.

:56:36. > :56:38.Trying to work out how close that is to the 22 metre line.

:56:39. > :56:47.Ten centimetre board in front of that, you cannot touch it,

:56:48. > :57:00.The last round just shy of 22 metres.

:57:01. > :57:19.Ryan Crouser has unleashed a massive throw in this fifth round.

:57:20. > :57:25.He has had three throws already that put him in the lead and he has just

:57:26. > :57:29.extended it, it might challenge the Olympic record.

:57:30. > :57:47.Five centimetres on the Olympic record.

:57:48. > :57:52.Right down on the other end of the arena, the shotput.

:57:53. > :57:55.It is the second semifinals of the 800 metres and the first

:57:56. > :58:12.Remember, last year at the World Championship she got

:58:13. > :58:18.The 19-year-old Ethiopian, a good talent, Alemu

:58:19. > :58:38.The Swiss has had some great indoor races.

:58:39. > :58:48.Talking of 1.57, Melissa Bishop did that recently.

:58:49. > :58:57.The former champion, Sum not in great shape...

:58:58. > :59:05.I say not in great shape by her very high standards.

:59:06. > :59:11.Lindh, a new personal best to make it into the semi.

:59:12. > :59:14.And an athlete who is very dangerous in slower races, Jozwik.

:59:15. > :59:30.What I am saying is, do not make it slow.

:59:31. > :59:32.Melissa Bishop started very, very quickly with

:59:33. > :59:34.They will probably go through the first 200

:59:35. > :00:03.A little bit quick in the first heat and it is an advantage to know

:00:04. > :00:05.what time you need in order to have a chance of advancing

:00:06. > :00:14.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke we know can do this, we know that she can run

:00:15. > :00:18.quickly and she may be glad it was taken out at a pace.

:00:19. > :00:29.A little bit quicker than the first heat, 57.65.

:00:30. > :00:38.One or two I thought may have sat up.

:00:39. > :00:44.Sum controlling it with the youngster from Ethiopia, Alemu.

:00:45. > :00:47.Bishop looking for a little bit of room.

:00:48. > :00:56.Alemu closer to the front than she often is.

:00:57. > :01:34.A faster race than the first so I think third and fourth

:01:35. > :01:35.might have a chance, sadly Shelayna Oskan-Clarke

:01:36. > :01:52.What happened around the top end must have cost

:01:53. > :02:04.really established herself as someone moving through.

:02:05. > :02:10.You see the stumble. That was the earlier blocking.

:02:11. > :02:13.As they come round with 200 metres to go,

:02:14. > :02:24.Shelayna Oskan-Clarke in that position.

:02:25. > :02:28.She moved wide to go around Lupu, and she lost the momentum

:02:29. > :02:33.and a little bit of the fight, because she struggled to come back.

:02:34. > :02:43.If she had not lost that momentum she could have pulled through.

:02:44. > :02:49.Melissa Bishop has turned off the burners a little bit.

:02:50. > :02:52.She knows that she qualified with ease but Shelayna Oskan-Clarke

:02:53. > :02:54.needed to keep fighting because she lost out

:02:55. > :03:21.Buchel in the fastest loser position.

:03:22. > :03:33.doing what Shelayna Oskan-Clarke did last time.

:03:34. > :03:38.Back to this great shotput final, Steve.

:03:39. > :03:43.The only man who can stop Ryan Crouser, Joe Kovacs.

:03:44. > :03:54.He is currently in the silver medal spot.

:03:55. > :03:58.this is the penultimate throw of the competition.

:03:59. > :04:01.Now, if ever he had to dig deep, this is the time.

:04:02. > :04:10.Joe Kovacs trying to get everything he can.

:04:11. > :04:17.Big scream but, no, it is below 22 metres.

:04:18. > :04:24.and Ryan Crouser is the Olympic champion.

:04:25. > :04:29.Well, he will have his last throw, Crouser.

:04:30. > :04:33.Looks as though he may even go further.

:04:34. > :04:44.Randy Barnes holding the world record, 1990.

:04:45. > :04:49.Crouser, a new superstar of shotput is born.

:04:50. > :04:56.Coached by Matt Wilson, the discus champion from 1976.

:04:57. > :05:08.22.52, the Olympic record in his last throw.

:05:09. > :05:21.Another long throw that probably could have won the competition.

:05:22. > :05:25.Probably five of his six throws could have won.

:05:26. > :05:28.At 26 in years of age, his first major.

:05:29. > :05:45.After a slow start for the Americans in this track and field,

:05:46. > :06:03.Success on the track and success in the shotput.

:06:04. > :06:12.And we will head back to the women's 800 metres third semi-final.

:06:13. > :06:18.And we can just have a look at what Lynsey needs to do.

:06:19. > :06:24.Neither is the world champion Joanna Jozwik.

:06:25. > :06:35.And Melissa Bishop - 1:59.35.

:06:36. > :06:39.So the start list for the last of the semifinals in the women's 800m

:06:40. > :06:43.and Caster Semenya goes here, Lynsey Sharp is in there.

:06:44. > :06:46.Maryna Arzamasava of Belarus, just inside Lynsey Sharp there.

:06:47. > :07:11.So Caster Semenya - 23 races this reason,

:07:12. > :07:15.I was looking to see, but 22 wins from 23.

:07:16. > :07:19.She did lose a 400m race in March in Pretoria,

:07:20. > :07:28.She's a very good 400m runner as well,

:07:29. > :07:40.Maybe struggling to deliver with very best.

:07:41. > :08:02.Hasn't necessarily lived up to that enormous talent.

:08:03. > :08:03.There's Kate Grace, winner of the US trials.

:08:07. > :08:10.Caster Semenya, such attention upon her.

:08:11. > :08:12.We saw how she finished the Monaco Diamond League,

:08:13. > :08:15.you understand why people are thinking

:08:16. > :08:25.Lynsey Sharp believes she's in the shape of her life.

:08:26. > :08:35.But Maryna Arzamasava a considerable threat,

:08:36. > :08:36.a world champion after taking that title

:08:37. > :08:45.Amela Terzic, a 1500m specialist, but showed that strength to finish

:08:48. > :08:57.The 21-year-old who went below two minutes

:08:58. > :09:03.A very special moment for an 800m runner.

:09:04. > :09:11.She knows you almost have to take Caster Semenya out of the equation

:09:12. > :09:18.Two automatic places but perhaps one here for everyone else.

:09:19. > :09:21.And Lynsey Sharp almost up alongside her after the gun waits,

:09:22. > :09:25.she can win any which way she pleases.

:09:26. > :09:36.The third of the semifinals, they know what time

:09:37. > :09:46.Not likely that we see Caster Semenya go on the front

:09:47. > :09:50.I'm glad to see Arzamasava move to the front.

:09:51. > :09:56.That means she can react as she would do in a Diamond League

:09:57. > :09:58.race pretty much and she's been racing well all year.

:09:59. > :10:01.She can just keep a good position, be ready to react,

:10:02. > :10:03.at some point Semenya will go and go hard.

:10:04. > :10:05.Probably won't be until the last 200m.

:10:06. > :10:11.I think Maryna Arzamasava, the world champion, has decided

:10:12. > :10:14.the options to qualifying in this one and take it

:10:15. > :10:17.Exactly the same time, and that was quick enough,

:10:18. > :10:19.that second semifinal, so Arzamasava ahead of Lynsey Sharp

:10:20. > :10:22.and Semenya, just bouncing along in fifth place at the home.

:10:23. > :10:29.A good run from Yarigo, and Grace is there,

:10:30. > :10:31.and Chebet beginning to drop off, so too Chunyu and Terzic.

:10:32. > :10:36.Do they have something in the latter stages?

:10:37. > :10:39.Arzamasava, Lynsey Sharp looking strong at the moment.

:10:40. > :10:43.Arzamasava just beginning to fatigue slightly.

:10:44. > :10:45.Semenya is there and Grace beginning to make a move

:10:46. > :10:52.Arzamasava looking around rather nervously.

:10:53. > :10:56.Semenya just appearing on her shoulder.

:10:57. > :11:02.Two places as they all tend to go a bit wide there.

:11:03. > :11:05.And Semenya eases her way around and Grace spots the door

:11:06. > :11:07.open inside Arzamasava, but does she have the speed?

:11:08. > :11:10.Lynsey Sharp shutting her eyes and driving hard now for the second

:11:11. > :11:21.But Lynsey Sharp, no concern, she does look good.

:11:22. > :11:29.What I like about Sharp this year is she doesn't panic

:11:30. > :11:33.when she gets into the trouble in the closing stages of the races.

:11:34. > :11:35.She did get in a bit of trouble there.

:11:36. > :11:38.She was a little bit lucky that the gap opened up

:11:39. > :11:41.but also clever in the way she was patient and waited.

:11:42. > :11:44.She didn't panic, waited for it to open up and when she did

:11:45. > :11:47.she struck and struck fast to be able to come through

:11:48. > :11:52.Just looking at the times for Kate Grace.

:11:53. > :11:57.Kate Grace is going to go through, Arzamasava is going to go through.

:11:58. > :12:00.They all did their job to ensure they'll be the two fastest

:12:01. > :12:05.Thanks for the pace to Arzamasava's pace.

:12:06. > :12:10.She had four away already with 200m away.

:12:11. > :12:15.All they needed to do is keep running hard and they would qualify

:12:16. > :12:17.as fastest losers but to have calculated that within the race,

:12:18. > :12:21.and she wanted to qualify outright in the first two.

:12:22. > :12:23.She waited patiently until a space opened up.

:12:24. > :12:26.You said Arzamasava had moved slightly wide and Grace saw that,

:12:27. > :12:30.and ran far better than she did in the heat.

:12:31. > :12:32.She didn't look good at all in the meets,

:12:33. > :12:34.but here she looked good and came through.

:12:35. > :12:46.And she came through to grab that third place which could have been

:12:47. > :12:48.significant but Caster Semenya, very easy there.

:12:49. > :12:51.Just glance up on the screen, you can see the difference.

:12:52. > :12:56.She is looking slightly up at the screen to check,

:12:57. > :12:58.she's working hard right through to the line.

:12:59. > :13:04.Caster Semenya cruising those last few metres there.

:13:05. > :13:07.Semenya is a strong favourite. Wambui is strong.

:13:08. > :13:09.But the chance of getting into the final,

:13:10. > :13:12.you may never know what will happen. Lynsey Sharp is through.

:13:13. > :13:15.She was a semifinalist in London four years ago.

:13:16. > :13:20.Now she goes through with Caster Semenya,

:13:21. > :13:21.Kate Grace and Maryna Arzamasava also going through

:13:22. > :13:28.And again, you can see what it means,

:13:29. > :13:31.she knows she's into the final, which is on Saturday,

:13:32. > :13:34.Just said to Lynsey, that result makes good reading.

:13:35. > :13:38.Must be a mixture of emotions right now, excitement, joy,

:13:39. > :13:45.Yeah, I mean, I have just been so looking forward to getting

:13:46. > :13:48.that Q next to my name, specially after last year,

:13:49. > :13:57.I know I can complete well in the final,

:13:58. > :13:59.but it's all about getting there. I'm so happy doing that.

:14:00. > :14:02.What did you go in with tactically and what kind of plan?

:14:03. > :14:06.I didn't go in as I planned, I got into positions I didn't plan on.

:14:07. > :14:09.The main thing is to stay patient and gaps opened. It all paid off.

:14:10. > :14:15.We saw in the Diamond League time and time again,

:14:16. > :14:20.you must fancy your chances. I live for the stuff.

:14:21. > :14:25.This is really where it starts. I was expecting to make the finals.

:14:26. > :14:27.So now it's about getting some rest and

:14:28. > :14:44.Thanks for talking to us and well done for reaching the final.

:14:45. > :14:46.Ryan Crouser, a colossal throw, celebrating a new Olympic record

:14:47. > :14:50.and a gold medal in the men's shot put final.

:14:51. > :15:08.That record 28 years old, Ryan Crouser has broken.

:15:09. > :15:12.Joe Kovacs settled for silver, and Tomas Walsh taking bronze.

:15:13. > :15:14.Another great field event final this evening,

:15:15. > :15:16.the women's javelin, the South African.

:15:17. > :15:20.Twice Commonwealth Games champion in the past,

:15:21. > :15:22.33 years of age now, snaking down the runway.

:15:23. > :15:41.I don't know why you would do that - sideways.

:15:42. > :16:26.That final is about just under 20 minutes away.

:16:27. > :16:33.And next on the track, though, actually next on the track

:16:34. > :16:39.When we do leave you, we'll see that on the red button.

:16:40. > :16:51.Doyle has undergone some real changes, she's married,

:16:52. > :16:54.moved her base as well and it's clear they're in fruit,

:16:55. > :17:05.This is a fabulous performance from the Scot so far.

:17:06. > :17:10.I don't think about medals, I think about going out performing.

:17:11. > :17:13.It's nice people are talking about me because obviously shows I'm

:17:14. > :17:16.running well and doing OK, but I just try to think about trying

:17:17. > :17:19.to execute the right race and with that comes fast times

:17:20. > :17:24.For me it's focusing on performing and running a good race.

:17:25. > :17:28.We made changes this year around that top bend, we felt the last

:17:29. > :17:32.couple of years I have been good for the first 200,

:17:33. > :17:35.but it's that two and three that I lost positions.

:17:36. > :17:40.I changed the pattern slightly because of that.

:17:41. > :17:43.If I get that right, I can get that up with the top

:17:44. > :17:51.The confidence is the big difference, you know.

:17:52. > :17:55.Going into it - I look back on the way I felt in London,

:17:56. > :17:59.To me it was about making the team and going to the Olympics.

:18:00. > :18:03.But this is about - I made the team but I want to go

:18:04. > :18:04.there and do something when I'm there.

:18:05. > :18:10.I'm a totally different athlete than I was four years ago,

:18:11. > :18:24.It's been really pleasing to see the progress in that four-year

:18:25. > :18:28.cycle, when you can tangibly see somebody improving in terms

:18:29. > :18:31.of getting into finals and moving up and the time coming down.

:18:32. > :18:36.There's been a lot of hard work that's gone on behind-the-scenes

:18:37. > :18:39.in terms of get the stride pattern right and she's getting there,

:18:40. > :18:42.she's got the speed there, but the technical part of her game

:18:43. > :18:45.Yes, the technical part has certainly improved,

:18:46. > :18:51.and also what she's done both her and the coach,

:18:52. > :18:53.is really meticulously plan how they're going to, first of all,

:18:54. > :18:57.of course, match that with good, good, good technique

:18:58. > :19:01.going to make all the difference, earn specially in the 400m hurdles

:19:02. > :19:07.You've got some clips for us to look at.

:19:08. > :19:16.She was always worried about this stride pattern.

:19:17. > :19:18.Always kind of been pushing her to try to get

:19:19. > :19:33.First of all, what she said she was working on was that stride

:19:34. > :19:36.pattern from one hurdle to hurdle five, that always had to be 15

:19:37. > :19:40.Now, I know people may be thinking - why do you continue sprinting,

:19:41. > :19:43.why can't you come on any foot and just jump?

:19:44. > :19:46.But it's really important to come off the hurdles in the right

:19:47. > :19:48.position because when you are tired, you need to drive.

:19:49. > :19:50.So here she's still on that 15 stride pattern, changes

:19:51. > :19:52.down to that one there - that's her 16.

:19:53. > :19:56.She needs to take this again, the 16 which will be a left leg,

:19:57. > :19:59.but remember in the heat, she messed it up a little bit

:20:00. > :20:02.and because she didn't drive on to the barriers just to chill,

:20:03. > :20:04.just to relax and try to save energy, then

:20:05. > :20:08.Here once again, we saw this all season, she throws

:20:09. > :20:11.in an extra stride here, she gets on her good leg, so she can

:20:12. > :20:15.It worked in this particular time, because it's a heat,

:20:16. > :20:18.But, of course, when the real deal happens, which is now,

:20:19. > :20:22.she's in the final, she's in lane 1, she cannot afford to run like that

:20:23. > :20:31.Would you say looking at the field that's there and besids the time

:20:32. > :20:34.that Delilah has posted this season, that is quite an open final.

:20:35. > :20:41.Now the world champion has come back.

:20:42. > :20:48.Ignore what she ran, 54.3, is her season's best,

:20:49. > :20:53.So what she's got to do is just run her normal race.

:20:54. > :21:07.And fail that, it's got to be Ashley.

:21:08. > :21:11.cringe slightly when she takes over every single hurdle.

:21:12. > :21:14.It only takes a clip when you have a bit of fatigue

:21:15. > :21:20.Doyle, she's in lane one, she's going to see everybody,

:21:21. > :21:23.going to be very difficult for her to put everything into play,

:21:24. > :21:26.but we know she's won some of the big races in the Diamond

:21:27. > :21:31.She's capable of going under 54seconds and if anybody of the big

:21:32. > :21:34.three there make a mistake, and Doyle is in the right position

:21:35. > :21:36.going into that final barrier, she can sneak a bronze.

:21:37. > :21:40.We have been calling it all year but she has the potential

:21:41. > :21:44.Is she at a disadvantage of being in lane one?

:21:45. > :21:55.What is the disadvantage, is it different

:21:56. > :21:57.with hurdles that makes lane one a disadvantage?

:21:58. > :22:06.Now, what happens with hurdles because they go over

:22:07. > :22:09.the track in a different way, when she's in lane one,

:22:10. > :22:11.she may end up with three hurdles on the bend,

:22:12. > :22:14.when you're further out, the hurdles are out on the straight,

:22:15. > :22:17.and that can I affect the stride pattern, that's why it's a little

:22:18. > :22:31.Athletes do not tend to train in lane one.

:22:32. > :22:44.It feels like a good time to take a trip down memory lane

:22:45. > :22:53.when Great Britain was pretty dominant in these events.

:22:54. > :23:58.She will not mind a little bit about that.

:23:59. > :24:03.I tell you a secret, I was there and I was 19 years

:24:04. > :24:08.old and I had six tickets for the dream team but it was not

:24:09. > :24:10.the men but the women and I swapped them for that

:24:11. > :24:21.the tickets thought he was getting the American men's team.

:24:22. > :24:30.If you are watching, I am sorry.

:24:31. > :24:39.Well, it was a fantastic Olympic Games for Great Britain.

:24:40. > :24:44.And a certain hurdler and he absolutely fell apart.

:24:45. > :24:48.Let's have a listen to Shelayna Oskan-Clarke.

:24:49. > :24:54.Unfortunately she did not make it through.

:24:55. > :25:08.I got tripped up over there and lost a bit of momentum, really.

:25:09. > :25:12.In the end, it is my responsibility to get myself in that position.

:25:13. > :25:15.I probably should have been a bit more patient because it was a little

:25:16. > :25:24.If I would have got ahead of that person I would have been fighting

:25:25. > :25:34.But what about the things you've learnt at the World Championship

:25:35. > :25:37.and another big step up being in the Olympics?

:25:38. > :25:49.An incentive to go away and train harder and come back and try

:25:50. > :25:53.to put myself in the best position when I am racing.

:25:54. > :25:56.I am in great shape but it is tough when you are doing the rounds.

:25:57. > :26:01.Thank you and we appreciate you stopping to talk to us.

:26:02. > :26:04.STUDIO: The women's javelin is taking place tonight

:26:05. > :26:27.This is the European champion Tatsian Khaladovich.

:26:28. > :26:39.Very similar to the throw of Sunette Viljoen but no one really

:26:40. > :26:51.setting the world alight in this women's final at the halfway stage.

:26:52. > :26:59.That throw 64.60 for Tatsian Khaladovich

:27:00. > :27:16.so she goes into second place behind Sunette Viljoen.

:27:17. > :27:20.She can make history here by taking a third if she gets it right.

:27:21. > :27:30.As we stand at the end of round three, she is in fourth place.

:27:31. > :28:22.We have others throw beyond 70 metres.

:28:23. > :28:31.The world record holder over 72 metres.

:28:32. > :28:39.Her best, 63 on the nose, the best so far.

:28:40. > :28:46.STUDIO: Usain Bolt out on the warm-up track.

:28:47. > :28:49.We'll be in the stadium just before 10:30pm.

:28:50. > :28:53.He seems to be fairly relaxed, it is fair to say that.

:28:54. > :29:08.He has such an eclectic mix of music.

:29:09. > :29:14.And he dances in the same way to everything.

:29:15. > :29:21.It could be the equivalent to a foxtrot.

:29:22. > :29:33.We also have Elidh Doyle in the 400 hurdles.

:29:34. > :29:37.But we go to the taekwondo to see if Jade Jones can defend her title.

:29:38. > :29:42.Hopefully we will be back for the 400 hurdles.

:29:43. > :29:45.The athletics will continue on the Red Button.

:29:46. > :29:57.Right now, we hand over to you for what hopefully will be

:29:58. > :30:05.23 years old, from North Wales, she is a massive star in Wales

:30:06. > :30:08.and she could be a massive star for Team GB and for

:30:09. > :30:25.the rest of the world if she can defend her title.

:30:26. > :30:31.COMMENTATOR: Lovely block, Jade Jones is going through.

:30:32. > :31:03.So far no problems in the defence of her title.

:31:04. > :31:15.She is the favourite but her opponents is the number two seed.

:31:16. > :31:18.Nick, this should be one real tight contest.

:31:19. > :31:21.Yes, it should be a really phenomenal.

:31:22. > :31:25.We wanted to see the number one against the number two.

:31:26. > :31:31.Jade has the advantage, winning the two most recent battles.

:31:32. > :31:41.This is the one the crowd is waiting for.

:31:42. > :31:45.When you are the reigning Olympic champion,

:31:46. > :31:51.that must count for so much. Absolutely.

:31:52. > :31:54.There is a lot of pressure once you become the Olympic champion

:31:55. > :32:00.and that is something Jade Jones has had to deal with.

:32:01. > :32:04.It was the first-ever Olympic title in taekwondo for Great Britain.

:32:05. > :32:08.It has taken a while for her to adapt to be Olympic champion.

:32:09. > :32:14.The pressure where every opponent raises her game to try and beat her

:32:15. > :32:34.The World Championship title would mean nothing

:32:35. > :32:37.if she could defend her Olympic gold medal.

:32:38. > :32:43.She is so down to earth, softly spoken but in these next

:32:44. > :32:46.couple of minutes she turns into an unbelievable Welsh warrior.

:32:47. > :32:53.she will shut down into the little bubble she is in.

:32:54. > :33:14.Yet, when she is relaxed, she is just a normal young woman

:33:15. > :33:17.but as soon as she is out there on the night,

:33:18. > :33:20.she is super focused and she wants to win every single time.

:33:21. > :33:28.Jade Jones taking on Eva Calvo Gomez, coming up shortly.

:33:29. > :33:35.If you need a guide to taekwondo, this is a quick guide.

:33:36. > :33:44.Taekwondo became a fully-fledged Olympic sport in Sydney in 2000.

:33:45. > :33:47.Each contest has three rounds of two minutes, and a competitor can win

:33:48. > :33:51.on points or if their opponent is unable to continue.

:33:52. > :33:53.Points are awarded for permitted, accurate and powerful blows

:33:54. > :33:59.Attacks to the body are made using a fist or foot,

:34:00. > :34:02.but an athlete can only use their feet

:34:03. > :34:05.to strike the area above the collarbone.

:34:06. > :34:09.Punches to the head and attacks to the spine are not allowed.

:34:10. > :34:14.The only techniques permitted are kicks where the athlete uses

:34:15. > :34:17.the area of the foot below the ankle and punches where the athlete

:34:18. > :34:21.uses the knuckle part of a tightly-clenched fist.

:34:22. > :34:24.Scoring differs depending where or how an athlete has attacked.

:34:25. > :34:27.One point is awarded for a valid attack to the body protector

:34:28. > :34:31.but if the attack is a turning or reverse kick to the body,

:34:32. > :34:36.An athlete will receive three points for a legal kick to the head.

:34:37. > :34:39.And if this is a turning kick, it achieves its maximum - four points.

:34:40. > :34:42.At the end of the three rounds, a competitor with the most

:34:43. > :34:45.points wins the match, but in the event of a tie,

:34:46. > :34:51.where the first competitor to score a point wins.

:34:52. > :34:53.All you need to know about taekwondo as we head

:34:54. > :35:22.into the gold medal contest, let's go back to the Carioca arena,

:35:23. > :35:25.Back for more this time - Jade Jones and this one

:35:26. > :35:28.Absolutely. It can't wait for this one.

:35:29. > :35:30.It's going to be a cracker, it really is.

:35:31. > :35:31.Defending her Olympic title, of course -

:35:32. > :35:35.But like you say, Eva Calvo Gomez, who won that -

:35:36. > :35:37.well, will want to say something about that.

:35:38. > :35:40.So it should be a great match-up between these two.

:35:41. > :35:42.And great to see that such opposition that, you know,

:35:43. > :35:45.all of a sudden Eva Calvo Gomez came up and took over from Jones.

:35:46. > :36:00.It's time to decide the destination of the Olympic gold.

:36:01. > :36:03.Eva Calvo Gomez in red, the taller of the two.

:36:04. > :36:09.Great Britain's Jade Jones wants to keep the right foot in front.

:36:10. > :36:15.Atmosphere electric here at the Carioca Arena -

:36:16. > :36:24.Who can find the uptown quality to get the shot on the board?

:36:25. > :36:27.The range finder for Eva Calvo Gomez.

:36:28. > :36:34.Good push, kick power from the Spanish fighter.

:36:35. > :36:38.Just trying to find her range at the moment, Jones.

:36:39. > :36:40.We have seen it a lot with Jade Jones -

:36:41. > :36:42.just takes the time, fields the distance,

:36:43. > :36:51.gets the distance right and then starts to pick up the points.

:36:52. > :37:00.She's trying to find a little space for her feet.

:37:01. > :37:15.This one really ebbing and flowing back and forth.

:37:16. > :37:20.I think she's going to make sure she keeps maintaining that distance

:37:21. > :37:26.and then come in when it's the right moment, Jade Jones,

:37:27. > :37:30.but, of course, Eva Calvo Gomez is going to try to use her range.

:37:31. > :37:33.Try to come in with a hook kick there, Jones in blue.

:37:34. > :37:42.She sneaks in and taking the head shot and plants another!

:37:43. > :37:54.I think we're going to see a protest here.

:37:55. > :38:00.The coach saying that he wants one of the head kicks invalidated.

:38:01. > :38:11.He's going to have to ask for one of the kicks to be taken away.

:38:12. > :38:14.The contention here is that the first head shot

:38:15. > :38:22.They go into the clinch, the coach is saying that it was holding

:38:23. > :38:28.the Spanish fighter and the head shot was over the shoulder.

:38:29. > :38:36.Let's have a look and a little listen.

:38:37. > :38:51.The coach got his instructions wrong.

:38:52. > :38:54.Card instantly pocketed and with 20 seconds to go, Jade Jones tries

:38:55. > :39:02.She's starting to pick up the points here and just eight seconds left

:39:03. > :39:16.A little cushion, it won't be a cushion she can rest

:39:17. > :39:32.A little bit of coach and athlete consternation there, some confusion,

:39:33. > :39:47.Two head shots and two lots of three points there.

:39:48. > :39:50.So six points, but like you say, she knows that she can't just come

:39:51. > :39:54.and expect to go two more rounds with just six points.

:39:55. > :40:04.She's going to try to add to that, of course.

:40:05. > :40:09.The British coach advising Jade Jones

:40:10. > :40:16.She cuts a strong figure here against Eva Calvo Gomez.

:40:17. > :40:24.Jade Jones in blue, Eva Calvo Gomez in red,

:40:25. > :40:26.but who's going to get back into this?

:40:27. > :40:41.A chip and charge as Jones tries to charge upstairs as well.

:40:42. > :40:46.But like you say - Gomez, same technique,

:40:47. > :40:49.caught her with the same technique, but got to be careful as she comes

:40:50. > :41:07.Enormous tension and rivalry between these two.

:41:08. > :41:09.Will it be repeat or will it be revenge?

:41:10. > :41:13.Jones hoping for her second Olympic title.

:41:14. > :41:15.She won it at the home crowd in London,

:41:16. > :41:21.She's on the road with a five point gap look scoring with that

:41:22. > :41:25.head shot, and again great defence from Gomez.

:41:26. > :41:27.She's still in this, and an excellent push point

:41:28. > :41:32.Yes, she's just got to keep her head,

:41:33. > :41:40.There's the head shot that puts Gomez back into this one.

:41:41. > :41:44.The Spanish fighter not giving up without a fight.

:41:45. > :41:46.And Gomez, in terms of head-to-heads,

:41:47. > :41:52.She's 7-6 behind on the scoreboard, though.

:41:53. > :41:59.It is absolute classic, and she's going to see

:42:00. > :42:04.what she scored with earlier, go back to that because - look at that.

:42:05. > :42:14.The direction of the scores has changed quickly as well.

:42:15. > :42:17.Jones with that great physicality, Eva Calvo Gomez, a very strong

:42:18. > :42:20.fighter in her own right and she's put herself back in context here.

:42:21. > :42:27.This is Olympic taekwondo at the very best.

:42:28. > :42:39.She was in the lead, and Eva Calvo Gomez has clawed it back.

:42:40. > :42:45.The coaching instruction is quite clear there -

:42:46. > :42:48.forget that round, give me your best two minutes,

:42:49. > :42:52.but it was the best two minutes from Gomez here.

:42:53. > :42:56.Yes, I think absolutely right - it was fantastic for Gomez,

:42:57. > :43:02.Gomez absolutely came forward, didn't she?

:43:03. > :43:11.And she was determined to pull that deficit back and she did.

:43:12. > :43:15.It is, coming into this last round now,

:43:16. > :43:21.All depends now on who wants it most and a little bit of change

:43:22. > :43:25.I think Eva Calvo Gomez did change her tactics,

:43:26. > :43:35.The women's under 57kg gold-medal contest.

:43:36. > :43:46.Jade Jones, her opponent - you can guess what colour she's in.

:43:47. > :43:48.But what colour will they be carrying at the end?

:43:49. > :43:52.Jones picks off a little flick kick to the body.

:43:53. > :44:18.It is a fantastic match. Great stuff here.

:44:19. > :44:20.Eva Calvo Gomez absolutely taking the fight to Jones.

:44:21. > :44:23.Jones has to fight back but it's an open match,

:44:24. > :44:25.an open final and that's why it's so close.

:44:26. > :44:31.She takes it, an absolute picture-perfect shot there.

:44:32. > :44:37.But there's one more for Gomez. A five point match.

:44:38. > :44:40.Jones goes for the head again, she scores.

:44:41. > :44:49.The Spanish fighter, this a real battle.

:44:50. > :44:54.Gomez going for the big points, of course.

:44:55. > :44:57.And Jones just keeping her composure.

:44:58. > :45:01.Under pressure, but the Olympic champion here

:45:02. > :45:05.defending her Olympic title and - wow - is she doing that well!

:45:06. > :45:16.The time for Gomez to do something - has it gone?

:45:17. > :45:23.Jade Jones there asks for a replay card.

:45:24. > :45:36.There you go, the face kick is the request,

:45:37. > :45:47.For me, I saw the head go back, but good call.

:45:48. > :45:50.Let's look at it, Jones pushing forward with her first phase.

:45:51. > :46:16.Double Olympic champion to the delight

:46:17. > :46:21.of the British fans and the Brazilian crowd.

:46:22. > :46:36.She said because of him, she found a love for the sport again.

:46:37. > :46:38.Paul Green never one to take the plaudits,

:46:39. > :46:40.but it was his charge, the Welsh Wonder, the fighter

:46:41. > :46:46.from Flint, that produced a tremendous response.

:46:47. > :46:48.Eva Calvo Gomez a superb silver, disappointed

:46:49. > :46:55.and she kept her cool - Jade Jones.

:46:56. > :47:02.She racked up the points but credit to Eva Calvo Gomez because she came

:47:03. > :47:06.back into it, she never gave up, kept coming forward.

:47:07. > :47:19.Jade Jones in the end, though, double Olympic champion.

:47:20. > :47:21.This is just absolutely phenomenal - Jade Jones, one of the stars

:47:22. > :47:24.of London 2012 has struck gold again.

:47:25. > :47:35.There is Jade Jones - this is absolutely incredible.

:47:36. > :47:37.Right, we'll go back to the taekwondo very shortly.

:47:38. > :47:40.And hear from the Olympic champion after we take you back

:47:41. > :47:44.Let's head back to the Olympic Stadium.

:47:45. > :47:47.As you can see Eilidh Doyle is about to go in the women's

:47:48. > :47:54.Doyle, Nugent, Muhammad, Peet, Spencer, Hejnova,

:47:55. > :48:15.The lanes outside her to the first barrier, she looked strong

:48:16. > :48:18.We're looking for Dalilah Muhammad in lane 3.

:48:19. > :48:23.But it's Muhammad leading at the moment.

:48:24. > :48:31.A couple of lanes outside, but Muhammad over that barrier

:48:32. > :48:34.in front as the rain starts to come down heavier still in

:48:35. > :48:43.Muhammad four or five paces clear, Doyl, a lot of ground

:48:44. > :48:45.to make up but everybody has a lot of ground to make up.

:48:46. > :48:49.Hejnova is there, Ashley Spencer trying to finish strongly

:48:50. > :48:51.but Dalilah Muhammad for the gold medal!

:48:52. > :48:58.She's fading a little bit but she crossing the line - 53.14.

:48:59. > :49:00.Petersen the silver and Ashley Spencer came

:49:01. > :49:08.But just about from the start, to the finish, Dalilah Muhammad,

:49:09. > :49:16.Sarah Petersen, you can see what the silver medal meant to her.

:49:17. > :49:19.Eilidh Doyle tried, but that was a high calibre field

:49:20. > :49:25.in front of her, and Ashley Spencer has got the bronze.

:49:26. > :49:27.And we talked about those who were coming in,

:49:28. > :49:29.with all their expectation and the pressure of being

:49:30. > :49:38.the favourites, the clear favourite as Dalilah Muhammad was here,

:49:39. > :49:42.and she delivered, and embrace from Sarah Petersen to Eilidh Doyle,

:49:43. > :49:45.two Europeans who have competed so hard against each other,

:49:46. > :49:47.but Sarah Petersen takes the silver, that was a great run,

:49:48. > :49:52.Wonderful run, but from Dalilah Muhammad it was superior.

:49:53. > :50:02.Once he puts her mind to it - Muhammad - she's so strong.

:50:03. > :50:05.She's technically, very effective and efficient.

:50:06. > :50:08.She just runs so freely, doesn't she?

:50:09. > :50:11.She doesn't seem like she's worried about any stride pattern.

:50:12. > :50:17.She's cool, calm and aggressive at the right moment.

:50:18. > :50:19.That allows you to have that lovely loping stride,

:50:20. > :50:29.The big conversation has to be Sarah Petersen,

:50:30. > :50:33.because she had a great year in the championships

:50:34. > :50:36.but I was thinking whether she could live up to that when it comes

:50:37. > :50:42.to the real deal - the Olympic Games.

:50:43. > :50:45.Doyle ran a decent race but didn't quite have the pace of the others.

:50:46. > :50:53.She's run 54.61, how does she look here, Colin?

:50:54. > :50:58.She's taken the challenge here of the stride pattern.

:50:59. > :51:01.It's one of these things you need to get groved into you earlier

:51:02. > :51:05.You're allowed to run a lot freer in circumstances like this,

:51:06. > :51:09.Right now, the stride pattern she's worked on is absolutely

:51:10. > :51:13.So there's no worries, no criticism you can give Doyle

:51:14. > :51:19.It's just this race was phenomenally fast, not just by one

:51:20. > :51:24.or two, or three people, but all the way down to sixth,

:51:25. > :51:28.there was either season's best, personal best or just fast times.

:51:29. > :51:32.As you can see, Doyle did a grand job, she couldn't do anymore under

:51:33. > :51:36.So all in all, to be in the Olympic final for her is

:51:37. > :51:40.Perhaps maybe she wanted a little bit more, but I can assure

:51:41. > :51:47.Yes, to make an Olympic final is something very special,

:51:48. > :51:49.but Dalilah Muhammad, look at her so far ahead

:51:50. > :51:53.The gold medallist, the US again, took a while to get their first

:51:54. > :52:02.track title in Rio, and when they come, they come over

:52:03. > :52:04.the hurdles, Rollins led, Clement in the men's,

:52:05. > :52:08.in the women's 400m ahead of Sarah Petersen, Ashley Spencer

:52:09. > :52:09.and Eilidh Doyle down in eighth place.

:52:10. > :52:18.The American Dalilah Muhammad, the fastest qualifier also ran

:52:19. > :52:26.There you can see Great Britain, another gold medal and we

:52:27. > :52:29.are used to seeing this - we saw it at London 2012,

:52:30. > :52:31.we're seeing it again, Jade Jones has won another gold

:52:32. > :52:34.medal, she's a double Olympic champion.

:52:35. > :52:38.Absolutely magnificent performance from Jade and she's just been

:52:39. > :52:50.Jade, a massive congratulations, you defended your Olympic title,

:52:51. > :52:54.I can't explain, I didn't realise how

:52:55. > :53:04.much pressure, like, I would feel coming into this.

:53:05. > :53:10.Like, even the first two matches, I felt pressure and intense.

:53:11. > :53:13.To pull it off and, you know, my coach,

:53:14. > :53:17.You know, the Great Britain team trained so hard, and even...

:53:18. > :53:20.You're a big part of this achievement tonight.

:53:21. > :53:29.Yeah, she delivers under pressure, I said it before, she's done it

:53:30. > :53:31.again, she's the most successful British athlete in taekwondo

:53:32. > :53:33.in history and probably ever will be.

:53:34. > :53:35.And her achievement is fantastic, double Olympic champion.

:53:36. > :53:42.Can I just say a huge thank you to the National Lottery

:53:43. > :53:45.for funding, the taxpayers that fund Jade to do the sport,

:53:46. > :53:48.and Gary Hall, legend of a boss, keeps the programme together.

:53:49. > :53:49.Absolutely made all of this possible.

:53:50. > :53:52.And Jade, you know, from your perspective,

:53:53. > :53:55.I'm sure you know, for those that don't know your journey over

:53:56. > :53:57.the last four years, hasn't been easy, coping

:53:58. > :53:59.with all of the pressure, but you turned it

:54:00. > :54:05.You know to be double Olympic champion already is crazy.

:54:06. > :54:09.And now - I just can't believe it to be honest.

:54:10. > :54:12.You know, before the competition I have been crying in the sessions.

:54:13. > :54:15.You can't see it happening because you know you're so stressed

:54:16. > :54:21.But, you know, I did it when it mattered.

:54:22. > :54:24.Very different atmosphere obviously to London 2012 with the home crowd

:54:25. > :54:27.four years ago, but massive support for you still tonight and that

:54:28. > :54:32.My family and friends, they mean the world to me.

:54:33. > :54:34.So much support win or lose, that does mean a lot.

:54:35. > :54:38.Everybody back home in Flint, I think there's like

:54:39. > :54:41.so many people in the - whatever the pub is called!

:54:42. > :56:03.It is Bolt time in just a few minutes' time.

:56:04. > :56:06.He'll be out on the track ready to run the 200m final.

:56:07. > :56:09.If he wins it, it will be his eighth Olympic gold.

:56:10. > :56:12.I was going to say historic, unprecedented.

:56:13. > :56:15.I'm fairly sure to say never to be repeated if he does it.

:56:16. > :56:18.I don't think any time soon anyone would do that.

:56:19. > :56:21.You never know what another great athlete is going to come along

:56:22. > :56:23.and be able to duplicate this sort of thing, but it

:56:24. > :56:27.This is the second part in the three-part series of Bolt

:56:28. > :56:30.trying to duplicate this feat for the third time winning the 100,

:56:31. > :56:33.I don't see anyone standing in his way tonight,

:56:34. > :56:36.but again you have to run the races and the guys aren't

:56:37. > :56:40.We saw Andre De Grasse run him to the tape.

:56:41. > :56:49."Maybe if I do it now, and see what it feels like, I can

:56:50. > :56:52.He's on the inside and Merritt as well.

:56:53. > :56:55.They're going to factor into the medals.

:56:56. > :56:57.De Grasse says he prefers 100 to 200.

:56:58. > :57:04.And Lemaitre produced some form as well.

:57:05. > :57:07.if there another race behind Bolt, it's hard to predict

:57:08. > :57:16.Alonso Edward has been running well from Panama.

:57:17. > :57:19.Lemaitre is coming around at the right time running 20.01 this

:57:20. > :57:24.There were lot of sub-20 second times in the semifinals,

:57:25. > :57:27.that is what is going to make this a fast race.

:57:28. > :57:38.Certainly since last Saturday, Denise.

:57:39. > :57:40.It rained for about 20 minutes, about 30 minutes or so ago.

:57:41. > :57:44.The air has got cooler, a bit of a breeze.

:57:45. > :57:51.I think like Michael said, this is a forgone conclusion.

:57:52. > :57:56.You know, we saw him looking relaxed.

:57:57. > :58:00.This is such an important event for him.

:58:01. > :58:07.He wants to dominate it, and he wants to dominate it big.

:58:08. > :58:10.This could be the last time we ever see him run 200m.

:58:11. > :58:19.This is certainly the last time he's going to be on this stage,

:58:20. > :58:21.the biggest stage of all in athletics - the Olympic Games.

:58:22. > :58:24.And I'm sure he'll want to go out where a bang.

:58:25. > :58:28.He'll want to soak up the moment and really entertain the crowd.

:58:29. > :58:31.But, you know, I wonder - I know he's confident

:58:32. > :58:34.but at the same time, he has not been as dominant

:58:35. > :58:43.You got De Grasse, you got Merritt, you got Alonso Edward,

:58:44. > :58:47.all of these guys have run very, very fast with De Grasse and Merritt

:58:48. > :58:49.both running under 20 seconds, and easing up both

:58:50. > :58:54.So, you know, if Usain Bolt - obviously we know when he's

:58:55. > :58:58.at his best, no one can get close to him, but if he's not -

:58:59. > :59:01.and we know he's not his best this year, we saw that in the 100m -

:59:02. > :59:04.it could get a little bit competitive.

:59:05. > :59:08.And that - you know, that would be entertaining to see.

:59:09. > :59:11.You know, it's hard to predict at this point what sort of 200m

:59:12. > :59:16.And Adam Gemili was disappointed with his semifinal.

:59:17. > :59:20.He got through as one of the fastest losers and you were talking

:59:21. > :59:22.through yesterday his race and his shoulders were bunched up

:59:23. > :59:28.How much of a difference could it make to his time if he can

:59:29. > :59:30.just get his body right in that final straight?

:59:31. > :59:33.In fact, he wasn't good at his bend either?

:59:34. > :59:38.He was OK around the bend, what he made the mistake

:59:39. > :59:41.is on the straight and that started as soon as he came off the bend,

:59:42. > :59:45.so we're talking about a good 100m of running tight and so each one

:59:46. > :59:50.of those strides is, you know, affecting you by

:59:51. > :59:52.millimetres and milliseconds, once you made that mistake it's

:59:53. > :00:00.compounded and the effect can be massive.

:00:01. > :00:04.Then that works in the opposite direction as well.

:00:05. > :00:06.When you're more fluid, you're not slowing down as fast,

:00:07. > :00:12.everyone is slowing down at the end of that race,

:00:13. > :00:25.And that's what you want to, you do that by maintaining your

:00:26. > :00:27.relaxation, maintaining your form and technique and letting the race

:00:28. > :00:30.come to you and just letting it do what it does instead

:00:31. > :00:35.And I believe he was trying to force it and he recognised that.

:00:36. > :00:37.I was going to say the important thing -

:00:38. > :00:39.is immediately after the race, Adam said he recognised

:00:40. > :00:43.And that is so important and so all he needs to do is stay relaxed.

:00:44. > :00:48.Actually, if he runs his race, he could be in contention.

:00:49. > :00:58.Let's go down to our commentary team.

:00:59. > :01:01.CRAM: If this is to be the last of his major 200m, then hopefully

:01:02. > :01:07.he has got something special in store for us.

:01:08. > :01:11.The full start list there - Guliyev, Gemili, Edward,

:01:12. > :01:16.De Grasse, Merritt, Bolt, Lemaitre and Martina.

:01:17. > :01:30.Little bit of a strapping on his leg, the Dutchman.

:01:31. > :01:34.Well, the great gladiator into the arena,

:01:35. > :01:37.He's taken on all-comers over the last eight years

:01:38. > :01:43.Nobody's really got that close, have they?

:01:44. > :01:46.But this is a good field, the point has been made.

:01:47. > :01:57.Martina has followed Bolt through to 2012 and 2016,

:01:58. > :01:59.well done for him to be here as well.

:02:00. > :02:02.Lemaitre, rediscovering some form of old.

:02:03. > :02:05.The Frenchman who took Europe by storm in 2010

:02:06. > :02:36.LaShawn Merritt - at 200m, he's quicker than Carl Lewis.

:02:37. > :02:46.He's looking for a medal at the very least.

:02:47. > :02:55.And this massive talent from Canada - Andre De Grasse.

:02:56. > :02:58.If ever the phrase the bronzed figure of Andre De Grasse is true,

:02:59. > :03:04.he says if he's going for the world record, I'm going with him!

:03:05. > :03:08.In 2009, when Bolt ran that 19.19 world record in Berlin,

:03:09. > :03:11.this is the man who followed him home - Alonso Edward.

:03:12. > :03:25.Adam Gemili from Blackheath and Bromley Club.

:03:26. > :03:33.that would be a huge achievement here.

:03:34. > :03:37.Guliyev on the inside, running for Turkey.

:03:38. > :03:46.So every single man in this field has run under 20 seconds.

:03:47. > :03:55.So Bolt perhaps for the very last time in a major championship

:03:56. > :04:02.goes into his blocks at the start of the 200m.

:04:03. > :04:08.A journey which begun when he was just 15 years of age.

:04:09. > :04:21.What history is written, what more does he have for us?

:04:22. > :04:27.Quiet, please - Mr Bolt is about to start.

:04:28. > :04:32.De Grasse is going well around the bend as well.

:04:33. > :04:34.Gemili trying to get into the race with Edward,

:04:35. > :04:36.but it's Usain Bolt on his own

:04:37. > :04:43.Usain Bolt - running away from everybody.

:04:44. > :04:46.Running to what he loved to be immortality as an athlete.

:04:47. > :05:02.Even Usain Bolt couldn't deliver on a rainy night in Rio,

:05:03. > :05:06.but I don't think any of us expected that.

:05:07. > :05:16.Well, if that is it, if we never see him again in a 200m final,

:05:17. > :05:26.but then what we need to do is reflect on what this man has done.

:05:27. > :05:40.He took the bronze medal in the same time as Gemili.

:05:41. > :05:46.and said Gemili was being pulled through by Alonso Edward.

:05:47. > :05:54.And I'm sure he would forgive the crowd and everybody else

:05:55. > :06:03.They're all looking up at the screen and can't believe the result.

:06:04. > :06:04.De Grasse has expected the silver medal,

:06:05. > :06:12.and Lemaitre, goodness me - outside 20 seconds as well.

:06:13. > :06:20.If this is it, what on earth are we going to do without him?

:06:21. > :06:26.You know, Steve, my heart goes out to this young man - Adam Gemili.

:06:27. > :06:30.To be fourth place with exactly the same time as the bronze

:06:31. > :06:36.medallist - Christophe Lemaitre - which some would expected

:06:37. > :06:39.to have beaten coming into this competition, is going to be -

:06:40. > :06:41.oh, truly, truly a bitter, bitter pill for him to deal with.

:06:42. > :06:50.Look at his head, he cannot believe it.

:06:51. > :07:13.They'll study it and try to get a bronze medal if it's

:07:14. > :07:17.But you know, once the result goes up nowadays, they're pretty

:07:18. > :07:20.So Adam will be devastated, no doubt.

:07:21. > :07:22.But you know - he's still fourth in the world.

:07:23. > :07:24.He's got to remember that and he's got a bright,

:07:25. > :07:28.OK, so Usain Bolt, he's taken a bow and,

:07:29. > :07:30.well, family of supported him, of course, through all of that

:07:31. > :07:33.and been there on so many occasions to see him, unbelievably.

:07:34. > :07:35.And what a journey he's had us all on.

:07:36. > :07:39.Gemili was right into it up to the bend and then it was a scrap

:07:40. > :07:48.He wanted to get on Christophe Lemaitre very quickly.

:07:49. > :07:52.I think that was probably upset someone like LaShawn Merritt

:07:53. > :07:57.who wasn't expecting him to go out so hard.

:07:58. > :08:00.And Andre De Grasse said he wanted to go with Usain and

:08:01. > :08:08.To behold Usain through to that silver medal position,

:08:09. > :08:12.Many of the athletes would be disappointed with the time.

:08:13. > :08:15.They would hope that clock would have stopped at something

:08:16. > :08:18.like 19.4, 19.5, which would have dragged everybody down to a much

:08:19. > :08:28.From this side it almost would have said Martina.

:08:29. > :08:31.Lemaitre is a bit taller than the other two, might have just

:08:32. > :08:37.I was looking for closely at those lines, and it did look to me

:08:38. > :08:49.that Christophe Lemaitre had just, just, just edged it.

:08:50. > :08:54.Well, I expected a little bit faster, Colin, but the race

:08:55. > :08:57.is what it is and Bolt immediately jumped out to the lead,

:08:58. > :09:00.We knew it was going to be a race for the medals.

:09:01. > :09:06.I knew this was going to be an interesting race

:09:07. > :09:10.There you see it, just very, very tight on the line.

:09:11. > :09:12.But De Grasse followed Bolt, as he said he would.

:09:13. > :09:21.But then extremely tight on the line there.

:09:22. > :09:24.I think that Gemili, Lemaitre, couldn't have done a

:09:25. > :09:28.better job, all timed it perfectly and the results are what they are.

:09:29. > :09:32.LaShawn Merritt in the middle of the track, never was in it,

:09:33. > :09:34.didn't have the foot speed to match the rest of the guys,

:09:35. > :09:37.and tried to come through with the 400m strength in the end.

:09:38. > :09:41.Coming over from the 100m and this was a quality race.

:09:42. > :09:44.You take Bolt out of it, that was fantastic for him.

:09:45. > :09:49.But tight on the line for all of the other guys.

:09:50. > :09:52.It was a quality race just not being able to separate.

:09:53. > :09:55.You see right there - Gemili - I mean Lemaitre is ahead.

:09:56. > :09:59.I think Churandy is just a hair back from Gemili.

:10:00. > :10:06.I don't think he could have done more to get that bronze.

:10:07. > :10:08.I think he executed as well as he could.

:10:09. > :10:11.If you look at the time isn't as fast as what he ran

:10:12. > :10:15.in the semifinal, but if you look at his race and his position

:10:16. > :10:17.versus the other guys, there were guys in there who

:10:18. > :10:20.ran 19 seconds in the semifinals, like Merritt.

:10:21. > :10:24.And he was able to finish ahead of him.

:10:25. > :10:28.So around this bend, Bolt just establishes himself,

:10:29. > :10:31.Lemaitre great job, just not trying to respond to Bolt,

:10:32. > :10:34.let him go and then use the strength coming down the home

:10:35. > :10:40.I mean, seven guys all right there together.

:10:41. > :10:44.Six guys trying to all get in there for those medals.

:10:45. > :10:55.time. I would have thought - I expected Bolt to run maybe 19.6

:10:56. > :11:00.He may not be in a great a shape as we like for him or seen him

:11:01. > :11:03.in the past, but I expect the guys like LaShawn Merritt

:11:04. > :11:05.and Andre De Grasse to go under 19 seconds.

:11:06. > :11:07.Again, maybe challenge Bolt a little bit.

:11:08. > :11:09.Lemaitre 20.01 in the semifinals but none of them went

:11:10. > :11:16.LaShawn Merritt struggling there, but Bolt relieved, full of joy

:11:17. > :11:21.He has completed at least in his individual events,

:11:22. > :11:28.A fantastic performance by a fantastic and amazing competitor.

:11:29. > :11:41.Adam Gemili is with me, track-side now.

:11:42. > :11:43.Adam, we always say that's the cruellest place

:11:44. > :11:46.I know it's full of emotion for you, but what a performance

:11:47. > :11:51.I put so much into that - into that run,

:11:52. > :11:54.And I just took it so close.

:11:55. > :12:25.Makes harsher in a way, but the way you ran your race

:12:26. > :12:28.in the first Olympic time, can you begin to take some

:12:29. > :12:32.Yeah, I was on the inside, and I knew Bolt was going to go

:12:33. > :12:35.and I knew a lot of people were going to go with him,

:12:36. > :12:39.my coach and I said, let them go, be a bit more conservative,

:12:40. > :12:41.because yesterday I had a look at the race,

:12:42. > :12:44.I hit the bend really hard, save a bit for when you come

:12:45. > :12:47.into the straight and you start to go past people and I did.

:12:48. > :12:52.But it's been a fantastic season for myself and my team around me,

:12:53. > :12:54.my family, and my friends at home and my girlfriend.

:12:55. > :12:57.I have had such amazing support from everyone in the UK

:12:58. > :13:00.I want to say thank you very much to them.

:13:01. > :13:03.It means a lot. I'm just gutted I couldn't do it.

:13:04. > :13:05.Bring home a medal for GB. Yeah, it's...

:13:06. > :13:07.Colin Jackson said in commentary - 22-years-of-age,

:13:08. > :13:09.you're on the upward curve, there's so much more to come

:13:10. > :13:15.Yeah, this is what - this is the fun bit of competing,

:13:16. > :13:19.We have a big year next year in London, and I just can't wait

:13:20. > :13:22.to go out there and put this right because I'm really gutted.

:13:23. > :13:28.To miss out on an Olympic medal, fourth place is probably the worst

:13:29. > :13:32.place, it's so close and at the same time it's heartbreaking.

:13:33. > :13:42.Hopefully next year I can make it right for the team,

:13:43. > :13:44.and in my speech, we're not here to feel lanes anymore.

:13:45. > :13:47.Four Europeans in that field and Team GB and especially

:13:48. > :13:50.in the 200m, we got guys who can make the final and push.

:13:51. > :13:58.Shame didn't work out tonight. But I'll reconvene with my coach.

:13:59. > :14:00.As team captain, you have done your team proud.

:14:01. > :14:10.Well, you can see the frustration there of Adam Gemili.

:14:11. > :14:18.The reason why just missing out on a medal there - Lemaitre

:14:19. > :14:22.delighted he was, wasn't he, to just sneak that bronze.

:14:23. > :14:24.Andre De Grasse, well, he's moved away from

:14:25. > :14:30.That is Usain Bolt's slowest championship winning 200m, and,

:14:31. > :14:33.well, he knows as much as anybody else that if that is the last

:14:34. > :14:42.His eighth Olympic gold medal, of course.

:14:43. > :14:46.And just the four by 100m relay to come for the triple-triple.

:14:47. > :14:54.Usain Bolt, I imagine, number one emotion - relief.

:14:55. > :14:59.You know, this is what it's all about.

:15:00. > :15:02.I mean, as an athlete, he loves running the relay,

:15:03. > :15:05.we all love running the relays, but at the end of the day,

:15:06. > :15:08.your career is about what you do at the individual event.

:15:09. > :15:18.No matter what he has done from this point on,

:15:19. > :15:22.he's done what no one else has done, and may never do ever again,

:15:23. > :15:27.And so, yeah, I'm sure there's a tremendous amount of relief

:15:28. > :15:31.from the injuries that he suffered earlier in the year, you know,

:15:32. > :15:35.and it's been tough, his health has been something that

:15:36. > :15:40.he's had to manage much better and pay much more attention to,

:15:41. > :15:45.you know, and sort of put aside the motivation that, you know,

:15:46. > :15:48.sustained him for so long which was, "I'm going to run faster and faster

:15:49. > :15:52.and faster" and replace that with, "Now I need to cross the finish line

:15:53. > :16:03.I feel a lightning bolt coming, no, what he's doing now.

:16:04. > :16:21.What the crowd is still doing - is chanting his name

:16:22. > :16:27.Just incredible what he brings to stadiums around the world.

:16:28. > :16:30.He's been a fantastic ambassador, great athlete,

:16:31. > :16:42.And just a word on Adam Gemili as well, you know -

:16:43. > :16:44.three thousandths of a second is the difference.

:16:45. > :16:53.He hoped, he hoped and he hoped, and he looked up and realised -

:16:54. > :17:03.Fifth in the World Championships in 2013.

:17:04. > :17:06.He tore his hamstring last year, couldn't compete in Beijing.

:17:07. > :17:23.I believe that he represents a new attitude of British sprinters.

:17:24. > :17:26.I have been in this role for a very long time - since 2004 -

:17:27. > :17:29.and I remember when British sprinters weren't as hungry

:17:30. > :17:36.and weren't coming off after a disappointing race

:17:37. > :17:37.and saying, "You know, I'm disappointed, I

:17:38. > :17:40.should have done better", he was very hard on himself,

:17:41. > :17:43.That was a tough ask, but you want to see

:17:44. > :17:48.That's what - I know it's tough for him and I feel for him,

:17:49. > :17:52.but at the same time, I also can appreciate

:17:53. > :17:55.that he knows that I - I'm right there and I don't -

:17:56. > :18:02.And he will take that into next year and follow training.

:18:03. > :18:04.When he's had a year removed from his injury,

:18:05. > :18:12.That's why he's in this final, getting in on time, but being able

:18:13. > :18:15.to get himself into this final is because of his drive

:18:16. > :18:17.and determination and coming off the track and being able

:18:18. > :18:21.to articulate what he needs to improve, that will serve him well.

:18:22. > :18:25.I'd like to see that and I want to see him successful.

:18:26. > :18:28.He also has to understand, though, as well time is running out.

:18:29. > :18:31.You know, I mean, Phil said there - you're 22.

:18:32. > :18:42.Time is not quite running out but there are others coming as well.

:18:43. > :18:47.The thing is - is you want to get this done in short order,

:18:48. > :18:50.because you feed off of that momentum so the momentum

:18:51. > :18:53.I don't think he'll get a copy of that picture.

:18:54. > :18:54.No, he should, that's the motivation.

:18:55. > :19:02.Yes, part of the disappointment is those opportunities don't come

:19:03. > :19:10.I mean let's face it - that 200m race was not the quickest.

:19:11. > :19:13.We have seen so many quick ones in times gone by,

:19:14. > :19:15.he knows that to finish fourth so agonisingly close

:19:16. > :19:21.He's got to run sub-20 more consistently to be really

:19:22. > :19:28.Yes, I completely agree with you, Denise.

:19:29. > :19:30.But the whole feel, though, kind of - you get

:19:31. > :19:33.the sense that there was - that the atmosphere wasn't right

:19:34. > :19:39.for those sorts of times because no one ran under 20 seconds.

:19:40. > :19:42.So I don't know that Adam could run under 20 if Andre De Grasse didn't

:19:43. > :19:46.Usain Bolt as you can see is with Phil

:19:47. > :19:59.Can you get your head around what you have achieved?

:20:00. > :20:02.It's something that you work so hard for short years.

:20:03. > :20:06.When this moment comes, you're happy but also relieved

:20:07. > :20:09.to have done it because you really want it and so much things

:20:10. > :20:12.could have gone wrong and the fact that I came here and executed

:20:13. > :20:14.and everything worked out is a brilliant feeling.

:20:15. > :20:17.When you crossed the line, there was a bit of frustration, was there?

:20:18. > :20:27.Just I'm getting older, not as young and fresh,

:20:28. > :20:32.I'm excited I got the gold medal and that's the key thing.

:20:33. > :20:37.Tell me how you do it in spite of all the media circus, everything

:20:38. > :20:40.that goes around Usain Bolt, the man, the legend?

:20:41. > :20:46.I focus on what I need to do because I know if I don't do it,

:20:47. > :20:51.I know what I have to do, I come out and get it done,

:20:52. > :20:53.It's your last Olympics we know that.

:20:54. > :20:56.You said you won't compete in the Worlds next year,

:20:57. > :21:00.are we going to see you over the 200 again.

:21:01. > :21:03.If I run - when I come to championships, I'll only do

:21:04. > :21:06.the 100m, definitely feel like that would be the last one for me.

:21:07. > :21:13.I want to say so, but my coach has a way of trying to convince me.

:21:14. > :21:16.Personally, I think this is my last one.

:21:17. > :21:17.Usain, you have been a great champion.

:21:18. > :21:20.Always fantastic to talk to you, congratulations.

:21:21. > :21:25.I want to say to Steve, I'm going to watch, hopefully

:21:26. > :21:27.you commentate brilliantly on this one, I'm looking

:21:28. > :21:37.Of course you commentated brilliantly!

:21:38. > :21:39.He does, he listens, he's a student of sprinting,

:21:40. > :21:42.he listens to what people say, he's going to listen to what you say

:21:43. > :21:46.He said he just didn't feel right in the home straight,

:21:47. > :21:49.did you see that when you watched the race the first time?

:21:50. > :21:52.The entire field just looked like - I don't know if it was

:21:53. > :21:55.the rain or if it was the - you know, the time,

:21:56. > :21:59.I don't know what it was, but it didn't look like a really

:22:00. > :22:04.fast race to me by anyone, not just by Bolt but by anyone,

:22:05. > :22:07.and certainly Bolt ran away from this field, you can see

:22:08. > :22:08.he's starting to get a little fatigued there,

:22:09. > :22:11.I thought they were going to start coming back to him,

:22:12. > :22:16.I was looking at Bolt and saw that he's not looking as quick,

:22:17. > :22:18.he's not looking as sharp and crisp as he normally does

:22:19. > :22:23.He starts to fatigue out about 20m from the finish line,

:22:24. > :22:27.in that race he started to fatigue about 50-60m at the finish.

:22:28. > :22:29.I looked then at the rest of the field to see

:22:30. > :22:36.if they were going to respond, and they weren't able to.

:22:37. > :22:42.Christophe Lemaitre - that's the moment he realised

:22:43. > :22:45.the bronze medal was his, and what an incredible rise back

:22:46. > :22:48.to form for him, because he hasn't shown that for a couple of seasons,

:22:49. > :22:50.and there Adam Gemili, the moment he found out

:22:51. > :22:57.Just looking here again, you know, Bolt got up very

:22:58. > :23:04.quick, so did De Grasse, Merritt in the middle.

:23:05. > :23:07.We expected him to be in it but he didn't get out at all.

:23:08. > :23:10.At this point you can see already that Bolt is starting to labour

:23:11. > :23:13.and right here as well - I thought this was tough.

:23:14. > :23:15.He's kind of looking like - what's going on here?

:23:16. > :23:18.The rest of the guys couldn't respond at all to what looked

:23:19. > :23:22.So I don't know if it got a little bit cooler today.

:23:23. > :23:25.There was a rain shower before, and that could have just thrown

:23:26. > :23:31.You see Bolt already starting to grimace there,

:23:32. > :23:34.looking up at the screen which indicates he has nothing left,

:23:35. > :23:38.I don't know what else I have, hopefully these guys aren't coming.

:23:39. > :23:43.He's looking at the screen again, we have never seen him looking

:23:44. > :23:46.at the screen that much to check his position and see how

:23:47. > :23:49.much ground those guys might be making up on him but they weren't

:23:50. > :23:53.But, you know, this was fantastic for Bolt.

:23:54. > :23:58.Again, you know, amazing feeling for him, I'm sure,

:23:59. > :24:01.to know this is all over, he has stamped his, you know,

:24:02. > :24:11.He has changed a lot of what sprinting is all about,

:24:12. > :24:16.what the sports scientists say, what the coaches say and believe -

:24:17. > :24:20.and in the future, I mean he is the model by which people

:24:21. > :24:25.will judge future sprinters, people will identify

:24:26. > :24:28.talent based on, you know, some of the things that we have

:24:29. > :24:30.seen Usain Bolt do over the last eight years.

:24:31. > :24:32.Just the latest instalment in his Olympic odyssey.

:24:33. > :24:38.Looking for a fine nine, but now it's a great eight.

:24:39. > :24:40.They get away the first time but here comes Usain Bolt.

:24:41. > :24:42.Usain Bolt streaking away from the field.

:24:43. > :24:45.It's going to be gold for Jamaica, that is superb.

:24:46. > :24:57.Away they go, and Usain Bolt already going past the guys

:24:58. > :25:02.It's gold for Usain Bolt and a new world record!

:25:03. > :25:12.Usain Bolt has it in his hands safely and away that round top end.

:25:13. > :25:46.Three gold medals, three world records!

:25:47. > :25:50.Bolt is out of the blocks really well.

:25:51. > :25:51.He's already storming around the bend.

:25:52. > :26:15.And Gatlin leading it at the moment but here comes Usain Bolt.

:26:16. > :26:35.But Usain Bolt on his own as he's been throughout his career.

:26:36. > :26:36.Usain Bolt running away from everybody.

:26:37. > :26:53.So the great eight looks something like that.

:26:54. > :26:59.What an incredible haul it is and tomorrow night,

:27:00. > :27:03.it's the 4x100 metre relay, men and women and Usain Bolt will be

:27:04. > :27:06.relying on his team-mates to get the baton around to him

:27:07. > :27:09.so that he can take it home and the times that were produced

:27:10. > :27:12.today in the heats, it may well be a fight for the line?

:27:13. > :27:17.You know, the 4x100 relay, the Jamaicans aren't as strong

:27:18. > :27:24.There are some other teams that could have something there.

:27:25. > :27:34.And it is always about the exchanges but the Jamaicans, I can't remember

:27:35. > :27:36.the last time that the Jamaicans have actually dropped the baton.

:27:37. > :27:41.A lot of pressure on the guys running with him to

:27:42. > :27:47.If you were given the job of handing Usain Bolt the baton!

:27:48. > :27:49.I saw them interviewed today and I actually think

:27:50. > :28:00.They want to win equally for themselves.

:28:01. > :28:02.Yes, it is great but they are running for pride

:28:03. > :28:08.I love relay night so we have two cracking nights in store.

:28:09. > :28:14.But earlier this evening, you saw Eilidh Doyle

:28:15. > :28:17.going in the 400 metres finals here and besides Muhammad

:28:18. > :28:21.from the United States of America, it seemed like it was an open race

:28:22. > :28:24.behind and it ended up being a quick race as well because the heats

:28:25. > :28:26.in this weren't that strong, were they?

:28:27. > :28:35.There was no real indication where the medals were

:28:36. > :28:39.Obviously Muhammad strong, she's looked silky smooth

:28:40. > :28:47.It was about her and the clock tonight.

:28:48. > :28:50.I think that Eilidh Doyle had a tough ask from lane one,

:28:51. > :28:52.it was always going to be a challenge for her.

:28:53. > :28:59.She gave it everything but what happened in this race

:29:00. > :29:08.If she was in another lane but whether she had the flat speed

:29:09. > :29:20.Most of the athletes here had run faster than Eilidh had run this year

:29:21. > :29:22.so in all fairness to her, getting into this final

:29:23. > :29:30.And I think that we always knew that Muhammad and Petersen from Denmark

:29:31. > :29:34.were going to be strong as well as Ashley Spencer.

:29:35. > :29:36.Let's see her thoughts then after the race.

:29:37. > :29:46.Lane one, it was always going to be a tough ask but it seemed

:29:47. > :29:48.like you ran the race the way you wanted?

:29:49. > :29:50.Yeah, I can't really fault any of it, you know.

:29:51. > :29:58.And you know, I don't feel as disappointed as I did

:29:59. > :30:01.I came off the track last year in Beijing thinking that

:30:02. > :30:14.I may have felt like I nailed the race but I was in this today.

:30:15. > :30:20.I can't be too unhappy but obviously you always want more and you want

:30:21. > :30:23.Going forward, what do you take out of an experience like tonight?

:30:24. > :30:27.I think that I've got to look at it with my coach and analyse it and see

:30:28. > :30:34.I think that my hurdling was really good tonight so maybe just trying

:30:35. > :30:38.to work on the speed a little bit and get a little bit quicker.

:30:39. > :30:42.First of all, a big congratulations because that was a wonderful

:30:43. > :30:44.performance to crown you Olympic champion.

:30:45. > :30:46.It's one thing being the favourite and another thing to deliver

:30:47. > :30:56.My coach, he had continued to motivate me.

:30:57. > :30:59.I was feeling really tired before the race but any time that you're

:31:00. > :31:01.about to run that fast, I feel that way so I was trusting

:31:02. > :31:04.myself and believing in my abilities and I was able to come

:31:05. > :31:09.Had you ever even maybe dared to dream of what might happen

:31:10. > :31:15.I just kept praying about it and praying about it.

:31:16. > :31:20.You kind of get so overwhelmed you want to stop thinking about it

:31:21. > :31:22.and let fate take its place and play itself out.

:31:23. > :31:24.How does the reality compare to the dream?

:31:25. > :31:29.I mean, when he said that I was the first American to win

:31:30. > :31:44.Well, some pretty snappy American hurdling has helped to propel them.

:31:45. > :31:50.They were already at the top of the table

:31:51. > :31:58.Kenya behind them and then really it's just a mixture of Croatia,

:31:59. > :32:03.China, South Africa, Ethiopia.

:32:04. > :32:05.Nobody else really within reach of the top nations.

:32:06. > :32:07.Nobody is in reach of the United States of America.

:32:08. > :32:11.This has been pretty good for you guys?

:32:12. > :32:18.The US women's team is extremely strong.

:32:19. > :32:20.If you look at all of the events, the women are bringing

:32:21. > :32:24.Well said, we can't argue with that, can we?

:32:25. > :32:27.Michael has kind of admitted that we are the stronger sex!

:32:28. > :32:40.Jason Mohammed, I don't think that we can say anything else.

:32:41. > :32:44.Nothing to say here other than brilliant night yet

:32:45. > :32:49.Usain Bolt, what a sportsman and as for athletics,

:32:50. > :32:53.what does athletics or track and field, what does

:32:54. > :32:55.sport do when Usain Bolt decides to up the spikes?

:32:56. > :33:03.We are now going to talk about another Olympic champion.

:33:04. > :33:08.If you've just tuned in, maybe been on the late shift

:33:09. > :33:11.and coming in and turning on the TV, Jade Jones is the double Olympic

:33:12. > :33:45.Rising there to use the cut kick here.

:33:46. > :33:52.And there is the stabbing cut kick to the body.

:33:53. > :33:59.A little bit of a come back and a chip and a charge.

:34:00. > :34:04.That is incredible but as you said, Calvo Gomez, caught up with the same

:34:05. > :34:07.technique but has to be careful as she gets in because

:34:08. > :34:22.Enormous tension and rivalry between these two.

:34:23. > :34:29.Will it be a repeat or will it be revenge?

:34:30. > :34:32.Jones hoping for her second Olympic title.

:34:33. > :34:34.She won it with the home crowd in London.

:34:35. > :34:37.She's on the road and she's here in Rio and she's

:34:38. > :34:40.Almost scoring with that head shot and again,

:34:41. > :34:46.An excellent push point there from the Spanish fighter.

:34:47. > :34:51.Yeah, she just has to keep her head and composure, Jade Jones.

:34:52. > :34:54.There is the head shot that puts Calvo Gomez back into this one.

:34:55. > :34:57.The Spanish fighter not giving up without a fight and Calvo Gomez,

:34:58. > :35:11.Jones trying one of her own and one thing is for sure,

:35:12. > :35:22.It is an absolute classic and I think she's going

:35:23. > :35:25.to have a look and see what she's scored with earlier.

:35:26. > :35:31.Look at that, quick change of direction there.

:35:32. > :35:34.The direction of the scores has changed quickly as well.

:35:35. > :35:42.This is Olympic taekwondo at its very, very best.

:35:43. > :35:46.Both women reeling and rocking here and Jones retreats.

:35:47. > :36:00.The coaching instruction is quite clear there.

:36:01. > :36:11.Give me your best two minutes, but it was the best two minutes

:36:12. > :36:27.And she was determined to pull that deficit back and she did.

:36:28. > :36:39.The women's under 57 kg gold medal contest.

:36:40. > :36:44.Jade Jones, her opponent and you can guess what colour she's in.

:36:45. > :36:46.But what colour will they be carrying at the end.

:36:47. > :36:50.This the battle for gold or silver and Jones picks off a little

:36:51. > :36:56.8-6 now, cancelled out by Calvo Gomez.

:36:57. > :37:07.Calvo Gomez absolutely taking the fight to Jones.

:37:08. > :37:17.It's an open final and that's why it's so close.

:37:18. > :37:20.There's so much tension and an understandable impasse here.

:37:21. > :37:23.Jones goes for a head shot and she takes it.

:37:24. > :37:27.An absolute picture perfect shot there.

:37:28. > :37:29.Dropped a drop kick over the shoulder and electronic sensor

:37:30. > :37:34.in the head gear registered but one there for Calvo Gomez.

:37:35. > :37:36.Jones goes for the head again and she scores

:37:37. > :37:47.Tries the reverse turning kick, the Spanish fighter.

:37:48. > :37:55.Calvo Gomez going for the big points, of course.

:37:56. > :37:57.And Jade Jones just keeping her composure.

:37:58. > :38:00.Under pressure but the Olympic champion here, defending her Olympic

:38:01. > :38:16.And the time there for Calvo Gomez to try to do something.

:38:17. > :38:22.Jade Jones there has a look at Paul Green and asks

:38:23. > :38:26.They do and indeed, they decide to replay it.

:38:27. > :38:28.Well, could it get any more dramatic?

:38:29. > :38:34.There you go, the face kick is the request.

:38:35. > :38:48.Jones pushes forward with the first phase.

:38:49. > :38:55.The video replay unsuccessful and the score board the same.

:38:56. > :39:13.Double Olympic champion to the delight of the British fans

:39:14. > :39:31.She said that because of him, she found a love for the sport again.

:39:32. > :39:35.to take the plaudits but he takes the delight here.

:39:36. > :39:37.Double Olympic champion and it was his charge,

:39:38. > :39:39.the Welsh wonder, the fighter from Flint who produces

:39:40. > :39:47.Disappointed but beaten by a clear margin.

:39:48. > :39:50.Yes, by a clear margin and she absolutely kept

:39:51. > :39:54.Jade Jones, that was brilliant stuff.

:39:55. > :39:57.And I mean, she just racked up the points.

:39:58. > :40:00.But credit to Calvo Gomez because she came back into it.

:40:01. > :40:12.Jade Jones in the end, though, double Olympic champion.

:40:13. > :40:23.I didn't realise how much pressure I would feel coming into this.

:40:24. > :40:26.Even the first few matches, I felt so pressured and tense

:40:27. > :40:39.And you know, the Great Britain team trained so hard.

:40:40. > :40:43.You're a big part of the achievement tonight.

:40:44. > :40:56.She's the most successful British athlete in taekwondo in history

:40:57. > :40:58.and probably ever will be and the achievement is fantastic.

:40:59. > :41:29.Jade Jones! Jade Jones, Olympic champion, 2016.

:41:30. > :41:34.And she used those wonderful feet to score perfect points.

:41:35. > :41:36.And a picture perfect finish for Jade Jones.

:41:37. > :41:44.Jade Jones and she will now observe the national

:41:45. > :41:47.ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, the national

:41:48. > :42:46.It's been amazing story for Jade Jones.

:42:47. > :42:48.In a recent newspaper interview, she said that she grew up

:42:49. > :42:52.in a council house and used to have big scraps with the boys and used

:42:53. > :43:00.And shortly after being presented with the gold medal,

:43:01. > :43:06.Fresh off the podium, you now have the second

:43:07. > :43:16.From London and be Olympic champion and to do it again,

:43:17. > :43:19.I felt like I had so much pressure coming in.

:43:20. > :43:21.I didn't realise how much it would be.

:43:22. > :43:25.How different was that pressure from four years ago

:43:26. > :43:27.because going in there as the defending champion, everyone

:43:28. > :43:32.I didn't actually realise how much pressure it would be.

:43:33. > :43:35.It was only until today that I thought, "woah,

:43:36. > :43:38.this is a lot of pressure" and just like pressure on myself

:43:39. > :43:41.because I know that I'm the best, but in taekwondo, it doesn't always

:43:42. > :43:48.And I've trained so hard for four years.

:43:49. > :43:51.And you know, I just wanted to win and to finally do

:43:52. > :43:55.You've spoken so much about how your life changed

:43:56. > :43:58.and your profile went through the roof after London 2012.

:43:59. > :44:02.You've had to change your style and adapt and went

:44:03. > :44:04.from being the hunter, very much to the hunted.

:44:05. > :44:08.Yeah, and I don't think that people realise how hard it is.

:44:09. > :44:17.And my coach, Paul Green, he has his training all the time

:44:18. > :44:21.and although we moan, that's what works.

:44:22. > :44:24.And I've got him to thank for it and just all my family and friends.

:44:25. > :44:26.And all my family that come here and everybody

:44:27. > :44:32.And the support has just been amazing.

:44:33. > :44:36.And you know in Brazil and I've only got ten family members but the whole

:44:37. > :44:38.stadium were cheering again and it's just unbelievable.

:44:39. > :44:39.An absolutely incredible achievement.

:44:40. > :44:42.Hold up the gold medal and everybody back home what it means?

:44:43. > :44:51.That is amazing and knowing Flint as I do, they will be dancing

:44:52. > :44:53.on the streets there, let me tell you that.

:44:54. > :44:55.They'll be having a few quiet cheeky beers tonight

:44:56. > :45:02.Jade Jones and her Twitter profile, she's got 55,000 followers the last

:45:03. > :45:05.time that I looked and it says on her bio, "I kick people

:45:06. > :45:08.in the head for a living and I love it" and she's a double

:45:09. > :45:12.Well done, and that is a remarkable story.

:45:13. > :45:20.Let's bring you up to date with all of today's headlines.

:45:21. > :45:23.As if it was ever in doubt, Usain Bolt claims the eighth Olympic

:45:30. > :45:41.Britain finished fourth, just 3,000ths of a second shy.

:45:42. > :45:45.Alastair Brownlie led home brother Jonny for the triathlon

:46:34. > :46:54.We would absolutely love it if you stay with us here on BBC One.

:46:55. > :46:57.We're going to take you now to the women's wrestling.

:46:58. > :46:59.Erica Elizabeth Vaby against Kazakhstan

:47:00. > :47:15.Now we move to the gold medal match in the women's 53 kg wrestling

:47:16. > :47:38.Yoshida has only been beaten twice in her career.

:47:39. > :47:52.And is unbeaten since 2012 and even before 2012.

:47:53. > :48:02.That's the immense hurdle that has to be overcome

:48:03. > :48:47.Almost willing to concede the point there.

:48:48. > :48:51.Yoshida's now got the one point advantage.

:48:52. > :48:54.The referee deemed Marulize wasn't active enough in that preceding two

:50:31. > :50:32.Just something about the way that Maroulis came out

:50:45. > :50:59.Maroulis has defended superbly in this competition so far

:51:42. > :51:48.Yoshida, she will bide her time for a bit longer.

:51:49. > :51:54.There will be absolutely no panic from her.

:02:48. > :02:54.Four athletes "left France house early in the morning on August

:02:55. > :02:57.14 in a taxi heading to the Olympic village.

:02:58. > :02:59.They stopped at a gas station to use the rest room.

:03:00. > :03:02.One of the athletes committed an act of vandalism which obviously wasn't

:03:14. > :03:18.Ordered the athletes from the vehicle and demanded that

:03:19. > :03:24.Once the security officials received money from the athlete,

:03:25. > :03:29.This is the key part and this is what will be

:03:31. > :03:33."The behaviour of athletes from the US team is not acceptable.

:04:27. > :04:34.That is a popular newspaper in the United States.

:04:35. > :04:43.And obviously some of the newspapers will not be running the statement

:04:54. > :04:56.There you are, you're completely up to date with the Lochte and US

:06:06. > :06:20.Whatever happens this evening, they will be having one heck of a party.

:06:21. > :06:22.The gold match is getting underway. The final match of the Beach

:06:35. > :06:55.white. Having a challenge on the first point.

:06:56. > :07:14.You can see the finger moved back. Bruno, there was no doubt in his

:07:15. > :07:24.mind it was a touch. So dialled in. That is some power. He opened it up

:07:25. > :07:31.right away with his heat. He likes to chip his way into matches,

:07:32. > :07:43.shooting his way in. What an atmosphere, listen to this.

:07:44. > :07:52.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Yes! Wow! We will have some of this.

:07:53. > :08:01.They have set the bar high to start this meant's gold-medal match.

:08:02. > :08:05.Fantastic big. What a get by Bruno. Right when you think the cert is

:08:06. > :08:14.over and it is trouble and the mammoth will take care of business,

:08:15. > :08:24.Paolo Nicolai, put it in the back corner.

:08:25. > :08:34.As did up. We are going for another challenge. They will argue the ball

:08:35. > :08:45.Bruno cut short but it was down, it hit the sand. But Paolo Nicolai

:08:46. > :08:55.creates that play and Lupo gets just under it. Hard to tell from that

:08:56. > :09:14.camera angle. It really is. But that cut shot was dirty. Another

:09:15. > :09:19.challenge coming. The challenge coming in here, but they weren't

:09:20. > :09:22.allowed to challenge the last one. Yes, they are restricted on their

:09:23. > :09:29.challengers, if it is a judgment call. Our handsets, or ball down,

:09:30. > :09:36.ball up. Those are judgment calls by the rectories, they are not allowed

:09:37. > :09:41.to challenge. That one, the ball in, ball out, you can challenge. Ball

:09:42. > :09:50.touch and net is false, they are allowed. But double contact on a

:09:51. > :09:55.set, those are not. The rain is falling here at Copacabana, and it

:09:56. > :10:02.is a shame because this is such a fantastic competition. Not seen the

:10:03. > :10:08.leader-macro seem to dampen the enthusiasm from the crowd. But if

:10:09. > :10:15.that continues the way it is going, it won't. Not what we were expecting

:10:16. > :10:20.to be viewing for a Beach Volleyball Arena in Brazil on Copacabana Beach.

:10:21. > :10:44.But we will play Beach Volleyball Arena night in the rain.

:10:45. > :10:47.The time-out usually employed to try and take the heat out

:10:48. > :10:50.Well, the service fault from Paola Nicolai is the result

:10:51. > :11:01.The thing with an atmosphere like this from the Italian

:11:02. > :11:05.perspective, is they will either get swamped or it will lift them to such

:11:06. > :11:16.levels that Brazil will have a real job on their hands.

:11:17. > :11:23.Some people thrive on the road, some people thrive at home.

:11:24. > :11:26.It would be interesting to see how they interact with the crowd.

:11:27. > :11:28.In previous matches, he's been geeing them up,

:11:29. > :11:30.We haven't seen any of that.

:11:31. > :11:49.Flapping his arms.

:11:50. > :12:00.He's getting them involved again!

:12:01. > :12:10.Well, that is the result of the first block.

:12:11. > :12:12.They went higher and harder with the second set,

:12:13. > :12:15.or higher with the second set, harder with the second spike.

:12:16. > :12:18.Great cover by Nicolai out of that block, but his arm just

:12:19. > :12:46.They are setting it nice and close to the net.

:12:47. > :12:51.These balls are starting to get wet, so balls that you can

:12:52. > :12:54.get a real sticky good touch on are going to get

:12:55. > :13:30.Having a discussion with the referee.

:13:31. > :13:40.Let me get my second opportunity here and let the big guy

:13:41. > :14:06.Somehow he gets the right hand to it!

:14:07. > :14:09.Lupo seems to have the right tension in his muscles, I guess,

:14:10. > :14:15.is what I'm trying to say, just enough looseness and fluidity

:14:16. > :14:18.to it, and off tension to where he's getting balls up

:14:19. > :14:32.Gets his first block of the match and the crowd

:14:33. > :14:42.It was just a matter of time until you get that first

:14:43. > :15:18.Brazil have come from 1-5 down to 9-7, 9-8 up, sorry.

:15:19. > :15:26.Not only is he a wonderful defender, but his transition attack,

:15:27. > :15:45.he's got to be 1.5 or two metres off the net.

:15:46. > :15:48.Sometimes you come into the gold matches and we have discussed it

:15:49. > :15:57.Sometimes the match never really lives up to that expectation.

:15:58. > :16:01.Just the fact that Italy went out to a 5-1

:16:02. > :16:07.Every match takes on a life of its own.

:16:08. > :16:11.It is a riddle that needs to be solved, it is a matter of who has

:16:12. > :16:13.the wherewithal and the presence of mind to solve that riddle

:16:14. > :16:32.As much as you can prepare your side of the net, you never know

:16:33. > :16:36.what's going to show up on the other side.

:16:37. > :16:40.Looking at those super slow-mos, yep!

:16:41. > :16:45.You go too close to the net, that man invariably gets up

:16:46. > :17:22.Technical time-outs, when the total points get to 21,

:17:23. > :17:25.and it's the closest it can be, a one-point lead

:17:26. > :18:04.Another play out of the block by Lupo, tries to just

:18:05. > :18:06.touch it, play it back, give him another chance.

:18:07. > :18:12.I tell you what, it is a good job there is no roof on the stadium,

:18:13. > :18:15.I don't mean it because I like seeing people getting wet,

:18:16. > :18:16.but otherwise everyone would have hearing

:18:17. > :18:35.The noise in here is absolutely incredible!

:18:36. > :18:45.It isn't going anywhere, I don't think.

:18:46. > :18:50.Lupo opened up his shoulders to the line.

:18:51. > :18:54.Kind of a bit of a decoy and then chopped across cross-body.

:18:55. > :19:07.If his hat falls into the net, is that a net violation?

:19:08. > :19:23.You give that guy too many chances, he's going to find

:19:24. > :19:38.And then wonderful placement on about a 60% swing.

:19:39. > :19:42.All that effort by Nicolai comes to nothing.

:19:43. > :19:51.But it just adds to the drama of the occasion.

:19:52. > :19:52.This time, he gets his reward.

:19:53. > :19:56.Certain things like how many times you jump, of course,

:19:57. > :20:00.All those type of things leave the mind.

:20:01. > :20:03.You leave it all out there, no question.

:20:04. > :20:06.But the energy that you are exerting per play

:20:07. > :20:17.Nicolai, for all his defensive efforts, had only got one successful

:20:18. > :20:23.They are a triumphant crowd to please, the stats people!

:20:24. > :20:29.It has to be for point for it to count as a block.

:20:30. > :20:34.It is, especially the way both of these teams are covering.

:20:35. > :20:54.The one thing that they don't have to contend with here tonight

:20:55. > :20:56.that the women had to contend with last night is the wind.

:20:57. > :21:00.The wind at least isn't strong and that makes for a fairer game,

:21:01. > :21:06.if you like, more consistent flight to the ball.

:21:07. > :21:10.The women were dealing with some howling winds, and the side that

:21:11. > :21:15.Alison and Bruno are on now has been pretty consistently "the bad side".

:21:16. > :21:21.The more difficult, yes, yes, yes.

:21:22. > :21:32.Good side, good side is what we tell ourselves!

:21:33. > :21:38.As much as they had to embrace the wind and make it their friend,

:21:39. > :21:41.same thing tonight, they have got to embrace the rain and make

:21:42. > :21:47.it their friend, get real comfortable with it.

:21:48. > :22:07.The pendulum starts to sway again towards Italy.

:22:08. > :22:17.Then Italy having to make up a three-point deficit.

:22:18. > :22:22.Well, they have it back to one.

:22:23. > :22:31.They have it back to all square, although it will be one if it's

:22:32. > :22:39.Brazil's side out, but that is an error.

:22:40. > :22:49.He is drinking in the air, isn't he?

:22:50. > :23:28.After a ball like that, to harness that adrenaline and go

:23:29. > :23:31.back and serve a float serve from that guy's size

:23:32. > :23:33.is like shooting a free throw after laying

:23:34. > :24:08.Big points from now to the end of the first set.

:24:09. > :24:20.We are going to get set points from here on in.

:24:21. > :24:34.Heaven's above, she has that one wrong.

:24:35. > :24:35.Not too dissimilar to the one hit earlier.

:24:36. > :24:41.They have to be going for each other's high hands.

:24:42. > :24:43.They are both playing at such a high level.

:24:44. > :24:57.Make them think about it, just a little bit longer.

:24:58. > :24:59.They just want them to think about it.

:25:00. > :25:03.Nothing said between the Italian pair.

:25:04. > :25:08.I mean, not just within the score, and we have been going point

:25:09. > :25:12.for point, but they know each other extremely well.

:25:13. > :25:14.They are running down balls, they are all in the right place.

:25:15. > :25:40.They are challenging each other in very similar ways.

:25:41. > :25:42.Set point number one is all they need!

:25:43. > :25:45.They are halfway to the gold medal!

:25:46. > :25:52.This would put a dampener on the crowd's enthusiasm.

:25:53. > :26:08.Didn't see anything, no, it's the ball into the net.

:26:09. > :26:16.But they are halfway to the gold medal.

:26:17. > :26:18.Opening set goes Brazil's way - 21-19.

:26:39. > :26:46.A good dig from Bruno and good reaction on the

:26:47. > :26:53.Lupo remembered what scored for him earlier in set number one and goes

:26:54. > :26:57.Stays with it, stays aggressive, even though Bruno sent that

:26:58. > :27:44.That makes me cringe every time a ball that close goes

:27:45. > :27:46.up, because these guys are going so fast.

:27:47. > :27:54.Doesn't have eyes in the back of his head.

:27:55. > :28:04.What great placement by Alison!

:28:05. > :28:16.I think they were going for the net challenge anyway.

:28:17. > :28:19.You've got to do it the middle of the rally.

:28:20. > :28:25.But thank God that Nicolai was there.

:28:26. > :29:00.So Danielo Lupo not endearing himself.

:29:01. > :29:03.Lupo stopped the play, as the players are instructed,

:29:04. > :29:09.If there is something that is happening during the live

:29:10. > :29:14.If you feel that it happened, you request the challenge.

:29:15. > :29:17.So, Lupo went to request the challenge, so he...

:29:18. > :29:27.They didn't blow the whistle, which I is why Alison swung away,

:29:28. > :29:29.Nicolai finished the play, so he felt there was

:29:30. > :29:44.So, as the play's continuing, Lupo called for the challenge.

:29:45. > :29:54.Like you say, though, if he challenges, he has

:29:55. > :30:04.See, their whistle timing is completely disrupted now.

:30:05. > :30:08.They didn't whistle to stop the play.

:30:09. > :30:11.The ball was down out of the block.

:30:12. > :30:19.You do not want to see something like that influence

:30:20. > :30:37.They didn't blow their whistle in time.

:30:38. > :30:40.It was only Lupo that stopped his play.

:30:41. > :30:47.Alison, Bruno, Nicolai, everybody was still on the play.

:30:48. > :32:07.Then they wanted to ask about the video challenge.

:32:08. > :32:10.Some energy about the Italian pair right now, isn't there?

:32:11. > :32:23.It is kind of both of the teams just exchange, exchange, and...

:32:24. > :32:25.Final point for the technical time-out.

:32:26. > :32:28.Brazil go in on a high with an Alison block,

:32:29. > :32:41.It is like they have an extra fifth gear.

:32:42. > :32:47.Just a spin on his heels and off he goes to the bench.

:32:48. > :32:53.He spent, what, a couple of points in the first set getting

:32:54. > :32:58.Now, it's about him and his partner getting over the line

:32:59. > :34:33.Great angle that shot of the spike cross-court.

:34:34. > :34:40.Little miscommunication on the Brazilian side.

:34:41. > :35:22.Bruno just doesn't get balls up he puts such a spin on it,

:35:23. > :35:25.he has such incredible ball control that he...

:35:26. > :35:33.His timing almost spun that back into control for Alison to set.

:35:34. > :35:36.There is so much more than him just flying around digging balls

:35:37. > :35:50.Nothing Lupo can do about that in the back corner, as it comes off

:35:51. > :35:54.There has to be an adjustment by the Italians soon,

:35:55. > :36:11.Perhaps a show and take from Nicolai.

:36:12. > :36:22.But Alison scored the last three in the same spot.

:36:23. > :36:25.Finds the mark and they are in front!

:36:26. > :36:27.They are in front for the first time

:36:28. > :36:46.What a time to come up with the point on your own serve!

:36:47. > :36:49.Again, he gets that jump-search going!

:36:50. > :36:57.That pushback that Lupo is looking for isn't quite there.

:36:58. > :37:02.I don't know if that set is too tight for him.

:37:03. > :37:05.But it looks like he's predetermining it and that's what's

:37:06. > :37:13.getting him in trouble, rather than let it be a bail-out.

:37:14. > :37:31.Well, that is a good serving session from Bruno.

:37:32. > :37:39.Because they are in front now from 13-14 to 14-16.

:37:40. > :37:41.Alison seems to have the bit between his teeth.

:37:42. > :38:38.His conversion rate is out of this world!

:38:39. > :38:57.It is silly sometimes the plays that those guys come up with.

:38:58. > :39:03.Because Lupo drops that cut shot that's...

:39:04. > :39:18.Buckle under home expectation and home pressure.

:39:19. > :39:21.But when the chips have been done in this second set,

:39:22. > :39:22.Alison and Bruno have responded and responded

:39:23. > :39:45.They have called a time-out as Alison makes the block.

:39:46. > :39:56.I don't think words do any justice to those two.

:39:57. > :40:39.They shouldn't get too far ahead of themselves because this Italian

:40:40. > :40:41.side can easily turn this 2-point gap around.

:40:42. > :40:47.But that red flag does now signal the fact that we have three match

:40:48. > :40:52.points to Brazil, and now we are one

:40:53. > :41:26.Brazil win their first gold medal in beach volleyball in the men's

:41:27. > :41:29.competition since Ricciardo and Emanuel in 2004.

:41:30. > :41:32.This is what they want and what they came for!

:41:33. > :41:35.Danielo Lupo is arguing the toss, but it's not going to change

:41:36. > :41:45.Alison and Bruno have delivered gold for Brazil on Copacabana Beach

:41:46. > :41:52.They have defeated a spirited Italian side in straight

:41:53. > :43:08.Three gold medals in London 2012, it is five here at home. That is what

:43:09. > :43:11.it means to win the gold medal in your home country in the Copacabana

:43:12. > :43:12.beach. I bet when they dreamt of winning

:43:13. > :43:24.the gold medal in the beach volleyball they never thought

:43:25. > :44:12.they would be doing it in the rain. Another great day here at the Rio

:44:13. > :44:25.Olympics. Another gold medal for Jade Jones. Goodbye for now.

:44:26. > :44:29.The rugby league giants from Hull FC and Warrington
