:00:00. > :00:00.it off, my coach is a psycho! She has done it again. She is the most

:00:00. > :00:00.successful British athlete in taekwondo.

:00:07. > :00:12.She could barely believe what she did last night. A double Olympic

:00:13. > :00:16.champion at such a young age. At the games, she has been a two of them,

:00:17. > :00:21.she has beaten all before her. Talk of Tokyo can wait for a moment.

:00:22. > :00:26.Great Britain's Lutalo Muhammad did well back at London, only one defeat

:00:27. > :00:31.on his way to a bronze medal. He has fond memories of London.

:00:32. > :00:40.Going into your first Olympic Games in your hometown, you just wanted to

:00:41. > :00:44.be smooth sailing and enjoy it. I was under a tremendous amount of

:00:45. > :00:46.pressure. COMMENTATOR: Lutalo Muhammad who was

:00:47. > :00:49.making headlines in the build-up to his games over his selection ahead

:00:50. > :00:58.of Aaron Cook. To have the political situation, how

:00:59. > :01:03.tough was it? There was a lot of stuff on social media, I had to shut

:01:04. > :01:11.that down. The media, the newspapers. It wasn't particularly

:01:12. > :01:15.positive about me. It wasn't nice to go in under that kind of pressure.

:01:16. > :01:20.We never really had a relationship before London. I can't say we have

:01:21. > :01:26.one now. It is the biggest rivalry in our sport and I relish it. It is

:01:27. > :01:29.a huge fight every time it happens. We are opposite sides, it could

:01:30. > :01:34.happen. We would meet in the final if we were to meet. That is

:01:35. > :01:40.incredibly exciting. I'm going to do my job, we will see if he can do

:01:41. > :01:44.his. I remember very clearly being on the podium in London 2012. The

:01:45. > :01:48.gold medallist in front of me thinking, well, I will have to read

:01:49. > :01:51.four years before I get another opportunity to feel what he is

:01:52. > :01:57.feeling right now. -- have two weight.

:01:58. > :02:00.He is simply one of the best fighters in the world. Ollie

:02:01. > :02:05.Williams has been keeping his eye on him over the last few years. Before

:02:06. > :02:08.we talk about Lutalo Muhammad, you have been in close quarters with

:02:09. > :02:14.Jade Jones and she is still on cloud nine. Of course. Double Olympic

:02:15. > :02:18.champion. To be the number one as far as anyone is concerned for eight

:02:19. > :02:25.years is still a huge achievement. This morning I spoke to her. I think

:02:26. > :02:28.they were intensely impressed by her achievements. She is casually

:02:29. > :02:33.chatting about how she loves the sport because you can be knocked out

:02:34. > :02:37.in a split second. Marcus Ellis' face when she said you could be

:02:38. > :02:48.knocked out in a split second. I said to him, stick with badminton!

:02:49. > :03:00.We have got some burgers, the queue is quite long. We have got time!

:03:01. > :03:08.They will want to at least equalise the medal tally. They would love to,

:03:09. > :03:12.taekwondo is a growing sport in the UK, been doing so well over the

:03:13. > :03:19.years, particularly in the weight category, 80 kilo men. Mohamad can

:03:20. > :03:23.never get a break and this time around, he has had to fight against

:03:24. > :03:28.Damon Sanderson, who is right up with him in the British team. They

:03:29. > :03:37.have always complained that you can only send one per country. Now you

:03:38. > :03:43.are back to having Kenny versus Skinner, but in taekwondo, you can

:03:44. > :03:49.only send one. Lutalo Muhammad gets to come, but Damon Sanderson

:03:50. > :03:56.doesn't, that is how tight it is to get into this team. Great Britain

:03:57. > :04:01.has so many potential fighters as well. Lutalo Muhammad of London and

:04:02. > :04:11.Great Britain in this opening last 16 match. Let's go into Carioca

:04:12. > :04:18.Arena 3 because this bout, Lutalo Muhammad is taking on Hayder Shkara

:04:19. > :04:22.of Australia. There will be nerves going into this one but let's see

:04:23. > :04:35.how he gets on in his first bout at Rio 2016.

:04:36. > :04:59.Great Britain in the blue, Australia in the red, here we go.

:05:00. > :05:05.A great start that Great Britain would have wanted. Sweep kicks

:05:06. > :05:11.Willey points for the kick to the head. Gauged the distance perfectly

:05:12. > :05:20.straightaway. Thought he had another one, I think it missed the head and

:05:21. > :05:24.came down on the body. He looks to the crowd and the fans as he scores.

:05:25. > :05:34.He is bringing something very different to the match. Lutalo

:05:35. > :05:41.Muhammad of Great Britain. It seems Lutalo Muhammad has got his distant

:05:42. > :05:47.straightaway. They shot to the body, doesn't count this time. Just

:05:48. > :05:53.waiting for the attack, waiting to counter. Going further head. --

:05:54. > :06:07.going for the head. They have had a minute to get the

:06:08. > :06:19.feel for the force that is coming out here. The Australian coach

:06:20. > :06:23.always has plenty to say. He continues to yell out and his man

:06:24. > :06:31.continues to struggle. Goes down but there will be no score there. Caught

:06:32. > :06:36.off balance with a leg in the air. You are likely to go to ground. An

:06:37. > :06:40.attempt at a double kick to the head from Lutalo Muhammad but it didn't

:06:41. > :06:50.come off. He will get another point, though. A point to the opposition

:06:51. > :07:11.for the same thing. There are the points for the head

:07:12. > :07:19.kick again. He was off-balance but he scored from it. All of a sudden,

:07:20. > :07:23.it is 8-0, the 26-year-old Australian being outclassed. A

:07:24. > :07:30.flying force from Manchester, Lutalo Muhammad and what a lead he takes to

:07:31. > :07:35.the first sit down. 8-0 and again, he looks to the crowd and pumps the

:07:36. > :07:38.fist. He is loving it out there. He looks by far the more superior

:07:39. > :07:45.fighter. Playing a really good game here. Picking off his opponent when

:07:46. > :07:54.he needs to. Shkara struggling to block and defend. Muhammad looks

:07:55. > :07:58.like he is going for the body shot and at the last second, changes it

:07:59. > :08:05.to a head shot. Just blocked that time by the shoulder of Shkara. He

:08:06. > :08:19.just went at him and did not stop. Hayder Shkara was born in Australia

:08:20. > :08:22.to a Japanese mother, he says he always feels he has been a bit

:08:23. > :08:32.different to everyone else, always struggled to fit in. Showing the

:08:33. > :08:36.community, Islamic and Arab community, no matter what their

:08:37. > :08:40.position and background, what you can achieve by hard work. Certainly

:08:41. > :08:44.hard work out there for the Australian at the moment. Can't get

:08:45. > :09:23.on the school board. Shkara will need to step up now if

:09:24. > :09:32.he is going to try to catch the lead Muhammad has. 8-point deficit. So

:09:33. > :09:35.feisty from Muhammad, really attacking all the time, keeping

:09:36. > :09:45.Shkara on the back foot, timing is impeccable.

:09:46. > :09:52.Muhammad doing well to stay on the mat there. The Australian taking the

:09:53. > :10:00.middle of the mat, coming at his opponent. Hayder Shkara continues to

:10:01. > :10:04.work, he is not giving it up, that is the shore. Thought he had a kick

:10:05. > :10:21.to the head, didn't register. 91 centimetres, six foot three, all

:10:22. > :10:32.muscle. A power punch to the body but doesn't quite get through again.

:10:33. > :10:44.Hayder Shkara of Australia really struggling to get anything to

:10:45. > :10:55.counter right now. Hits to the body from Great Britain. It is hard, you

:10:56. > :11:02.really have to go with some force. Spinning kick towards the head. This

:11:03. > :11:07.time he gets through. Within on movement of this bout ending though.

:11:08. > :11:13.An 11 point lead and Muhammad really going for it. He is well aware he

:11:14. > :11:23.thinks he has got there with the body shot. Not quite. This won't go

:11:24. > :11:27.into a third round, another three points therefore Great Britain and

:11:28. > :11:35.in two seconds, this will be all over. He has been a little bit

:11:36. > :11:40.early, the headgear goes back on and only momentarily. Lutalo Muhammad

:11:41. > :11:54.has done it, he has won it easily. That was almost criminal. 14-0.

:11:55. > :11:57.Great respect for one another. Hayder Shkara went from just being a

:11:58. > :12:02.sparring partner in London, now, knocked out in the first round.

:12:03. > :12:08.Let's hope he can come back in four years' time and go a step further

:12:09. > :12:12.but for Great Britain, Lutalo Muhammad, what a fight, absolutely

:12:13. > :12:17.outclassed his opponent and he moves forward to the quarterfinal. There

:12:18. > :12:24.was some injury concerns coming in, he missed last year's will

:12:25. > :12:27.Championships with a knee injury. He earned Olympic qualification by

:12:28. > :12:30.winning silver and gold in successive events. He was still

:12:31. > :12:36.struggling with it and only made one outing this year. He beat Cook in

:12:37. > :12:43.that one outing. The European Championships. He is fit and

:12:44. > :12:51.certainly firing. Indeed. Nicely progressed through the round of 16.

:12:52. > :12:55.14-0. Stopped after the second round. Conserved energy, blow the

:12:56. > :13:02.cobwebs away and let's see what he can do now in the quarters.

:13:03. > :13:08.That was the perfect start. Exactly what I wanted, I am here enjoying

:13:09. > :13:13.myself in this beautiful city. I want to keep doing this. The bronze

:13:14. > :13:19.medal four years ago, you are hoping for better this time around. I'm

:13:20. > :13:28.only here for gold. Gold medal or bust. Yeah, yeah. He is aiming for

:13:29. > :13:33.the top spot and he got off to a winning start down there in Carioca

:13:34. > :13:38.Arena 3. Nice to get any rustiness and nerves out of the way. Let's go

:13:39. > :13:43.for a bit of a walk. That final never really in doubt. Fighting an

:13:44. > :13:47.opponent not necessarily one of the favourites but still if you get to

:13:48. > :13:50.the Olympic Games, you have to make sure you do the job. You can hear

:13:51. > :13:58.how confident he is. He says only here for gold. Got bronze last time.

:13:59. > :14:01.Saw another man on the podium and heard another man's anthem and he

:14:02. > :14:05.wants to change that this time around. He wants to get a better

:14:06. > :14:09.result than bronze. There was a big controversy when he became Great

:14:10. > :14:16.Britain's representative in the 80 kilograms category. The history set

:14:17. > :14:20.at this weight division nicely. Just a smidgen of controversy. Aaron

:14:21. > :14:26.Cook, the world number one, heading into 2012, but had a dispute with

:14:27. > :14:30.the British team and was coached separately. Lutalo Muhammad was in

:14:31. > :14:33.the British fold, Aaron Cook was not under selectors ended up taking

:14:34. > :14:39.Muhammad the London 2012 where he got his bronze medal instead of

:14:40. > :14:45.getting Aaron Cook. Aaron Cook was out of the fold, despite being world

:14:46. > :14:50.number one. Now, Aaron Cook is coming to Rio 2016, fighting for

:14:51. > :14:54.Moldova, because Moldova would allow him to compete, he switched his

:14:55. > :14:58.allegiance, so he is in the other half of this bracket and that means

:14:59. > :15:03.if they both win all of their contests, the fight for gold here

:15:04. > :15:10.later wrong, could be, only could be but could be, between two people who

:15:11. > :15:14.work in this massive fight for selection in 2012. Lutalo Muhammad

:15:15. > :15:18.was getting hate mail from people, it was a really big deal and they

:15:19. > :15:21.don't like each other. Lutalo Muhammad has said, they are not

:15:22. > :15:27.friends. That could be something incredible to watch. He even

:15:28. > :15:30.considered taking legal action to the court of arbitration for the

:15:31. > :15:35.sport and decided he didn't want to waste any time and money. It means

:15:36. > :15:41.he is representing Moldova and he has some scores to settle against

:15:42. > :15:44.Muhammad and also British taekwondo. There is huge motivation for him to

:15:45. > :15:50.come here, representing a different country. If he wins gold, it would

:15:51. > :16:10.be the first gold for Moldova in Olympic history.

:16:11. > :16:18.Were a thought for Bianca Walkden of Great Britain, also a tae kwon do

:16:19. > :16:23.fighter. She was the girlfriend of Aaron Cook. Like Ollie said, the two

:16:24. > :16:29.of them could will meet in the final of this category tonight. It is all

:16:30. > :16:35.set up. He's got an important fight to get through first, he is taking

:16:36. > :16:39.on a fighter from Chinese Taipei. He qualified into the quarterfinals of

:16:40. > :16:44.the World Championship back in 2015. They tricky customer, but as we've

:16:45. > :16:45.already talked about Aaron has got designs of the gold medal. Let's get

:16:46. > :16:59.back into that arena. Here he is, happy to be here at the

:17:00. > :17:05.Olympics for Moldova instead of his birth nation, Great Britain. An

:17:06. > :17:08.interesting story. Aaron Cook was granted Moldavian citizenship in

:17:09. > :17:12.April last year following an approach from the billionaire

:17:13. > :17:16.President of the country's tae kwon do Federation. He has not

:17:17. > :17:25.represented Great Britain since he was loved "Devastated" -- left

:17:26. > :17:32.devastated after being overlooked for the London 2012 Olympics. The

:17:33. > :17:37.controversy raged deep in the UK four years ago as it continues to do

:17:38. > :17:43.now with Aaron turning his back on his home country and competing for

:17:44. > :17:48.Moldova. He just missed the medals in Beijing which added to the

:17:49. > :17:54.controversy around his non-selection. It went to appeal a

:17:55. > :17:59.couple of times. He wasn't there, he watched on. Now he could be an angry

:18:00. > :18:01.young man. He has a chance to meet Great Britain in the final of this

:18:02. > :18:16.man's under 80 kilograms division. It's not all going to be his own

:18:17. > :18:21.way, Aaron Cook, despite his ability. As you can see, the man in

:18:22. > :18:26.blue, Liu Wei-Ting from Chinese Taipei will give himself a chance

:18:27. > :18:34.against Aaron Cook, the Republic of Moldova, in red. Aaron Cook with

:18:35. > :18:42.something to prove here. Clearly he wants to progress through this

:18:43. > :18:46.round. Very quick on his feet. The footwork is fantastic, moving

:18:47. > :18:54.forwards and backwards. Goes for the power punch, doesn't land it.

:18:55. > :19:05.Nicely covered. Kicks to the head what he fighters are looking for.

:19:06. > :19:13.They will score three points. Just a single point for a kick to the body,

:19:14. > :19:19.unless it is a spinning kick. Using that push kick just to gauge

:19:20. > :19:30.distance. Both counteracting each other.

:19:31. > :19:38.Wie-Ting. Championship silver and bronze medals. Now we have the coach

:19:39. > :19:45.of getting involved. Some movement is that could be worth a score, but

:19:46. > :19:51.it doesn't always happen. On this occasion it is the referee who will

:19:52. > :19:54.talk to the mat judges. If two of the three have seen something it

:19:55. > :20:00.will be awarded. Did you see anything? The power punch to the

:20:01. > :20:05.body was significant. It didn't register. Is that maybe what they're

:20:06. > :20:07.discussing? Aaron Cook came in at close range. A power punch to the

:20:08. > :20:34.body. There is your one point. In the early rounds of day three of

:20:35. > :20:38.Olympic tae kwon do action in Rio 2016, there is much to learn. Aaron

:20:39. > :20:42.Cook knows all that but he is able to get through. That is the sort of

:20:43. > :20:46.quality athlete we are talking about. There is no athlete on the

:20:47. > :20:53.taekwondo match but Polly carries the same motivation that Aaron Cook

:20:54. > :21:05.does to concede here. -- that carries the same motivation. Another

:21:06. > :21:09.body shots. Liu Wei-Ting gets inside and we're back to square at the end

:21:10. > :21:16.of the first round. There will be a warning against Cook. It would lead

:21:17. > :21:20.to anything before the bell with one second to go. They sit down all tied

:21:21. > :21:24.up. He didn't necessarily see that coming. A great body shot from Liu

:21:25. > :21:30.Wei-Ting. We have a game on our hands here. Cook's just conceded

:21:31. > :21:35.going into this break. Another one of those and he will concede a

:21:36. > :21:41.point. We can see here from the overhead shot, the distance between

:21:42. > :21:44.the two fighters. He gets his head round quick. Cook looking for the

:21:45. > :21:58.spinning kick to the body. He doesn't come off. That fist to the

:21:59. > :22:04.chest. He did his sea training with a guy called Nick Clegg, the father

:22:05. > :22:14.of two former international weight lifters. Played for Manchester

:22:15. > :22:19.United for a period of time. Good to see him giving quality strength and

:22:20. > :22:22.conditioning advice to Aaron, who does look extremely strong against

:22:23. > :22:26.the competitor at five inches taller. Round to begin. There is

:22:27. > :22:31.nothing in this. Aaron Cook is the number two in the world for Moldova,

:22:32. > :22:35.not his native Great Britain, against Liu Wei-Ting of Chinese

:22:36. > :22:43.Taipei. Number 15 in the world coming in. He almost got the last

:22:44. > :22:50.spot. The very last spot was an IC invitations though it was the very

:22:51. > :22:51.last spot available. -- IOC invitation, so it was the very last

:22:52. > :23:11.spot available. The footwork from Aaron Cook is

:23:12. > :23:15.really good. Just moving far enough away so that Liu Wei-Ting can make

:23:16. > :23:26.contact, but then coming back in. The scores remain at 101. -- at 1-1.

:23:27. > :23:37.A cracking headshot. Nearly took the had got off Aaron Cook. Liu Wei-Ting

:23:38. > :23:40.is up 4-1. He had to adjust to headset. You're right, aided nearly

:23:41. > :23:48.disappear. But really shook him up. He did not want to be in this

:23:49. > :23:52.position. He pegged himself to be aggressive and get scores on the

:23:53. > :23:58.board early. In fact, it is the absolute opposite. Liu Wei-Ting did

:23:59. > :24:02.consider defending this. He has landed two blows for his higher

:24:03. > :24:07.rated a pendant using this rangy style appears. Two advantages. Cook

:24:08. > :24:13.goes with a spinning style. Can't quite get it to happen. The

:24:14. > :24:17.atmosphere is amazing inside the Carioca Arena 3. Everybody is well

:24:18. > :24:23.aware of the back story for Aaron Cook and how long he has waited to

:24:24. > :24:27.do this. He will have a minute to wait in a moment before the first

:24:28. > :24:34.round begins. Goodness knows what's going through his mind. How about

:24:35. > :24:42.that? Chinese Taipei with the lead, 4-1 at the second sit down. Liu

:24:43. > :24:46.Wei-Ting is going into the third round not with a nice advantage or

:24:47. > :24:49.too much of a cushion, it is definitely in striking distance for

:24:50. > :24:53.Aaron Cook but Aaron is now under pressure. He will need to come out

:24:54. > :24:59.and show us what he's made of in this third and final round. Needs to

:25:00. > :25:21.pick up some points. A good attempt at a chop kickabout.

:25:22. > :25:27.You can't quite hear the words from the coach but the look on the face

:25:28. > :25:32.of Aaron Cook says this is desperation stages. This is an

:25:33. > :25:38.interesting moment on the mat, certainly in the preliminary rounds,

:25:39. > :25:45.as we enter the later stages of qualification on the third day.

:25:46. > :25:49.Aaron Cook of Moldova with some work to do against Liu Wei-Ting of

:25:50. > :25:55.Chinese Taipei. Both fighters are very dynamic in their movements.

:25:56. > :26:06.Coming in with intent. A power punch from Aaron Cook. Doesn't score

:26:07. > :26:11.again. That one score on the board is from a punch, not a kick.

:26:12. > :26:16.Spinning movement, tried up but collect nothing. He goes to the

:26:17. > :26:22.ground and without a penalty goes against Cook. The lead becomes four

:26:23. > :26:26.now to Liu Wei-Ting. High drama now at the Carioca Arena 3. Again, goes

:26:27. > :26:34.with the fist and this time does score. He will need a lot of those

:26:35. > :26:40.in a minute and a half will stop -- in a minute and a half. Back kick

:26:41. > :26:45.attempt to the body. Doesn't come off. Nice covering from Liu

:26:46. > :26:49.Wei-Ting. Multiple pics coming in now. Those turning kicks again are

:26:50. > :26:55.not quite making contact. -- multiple kicks. He is giving away 13

:26:56. > :26:58.centimetres and having a great effect. He can't get near his man

:26:59. > :27:03.who is standing in the middle of the mat, defending well. Happy to go up

:27:04. > :27:07.high and give away the penalty to score. The penalty is there but the

:27:08. > :27:14.score is not. 6-2 inside the last minute. Aaron Cook, formerly against

:27:15. > :27:18.Great Britain, the man who was number one in the world at just 19

:27:19. > :27:23.years of age has been waiting for his opportunity at this level but is

:27:24. > :27:29.now in all sorts of opportunity. A wonderful manoeuvre from Liu

:27:30. > :27:34.Wei-Ting, to the head of Cook. 11-2. We get a review. The Moldova coach

:27:35. > :27:39.has come in, perhaps on Aaron's say-so to review something. He is

:27:40. > :27:43.claiming it was not a kick to the face. You've got to challenge it.

:27:44. > :27:48.We're running out of time right now. He also picked up one point from

:27:49. > :27:55.where he went to ground. Aaron Cook is in real trouble right now. No

:27:56. > :27:59.time at all for the review to be knocked back. 11-2, and he's only

:28:00. > :28:04.made scoring contact with his opponent with the power punches to

:28:05. > :28:09.the body. Spinning and trying to claim points now. The card is gone.

:28:10. > :28:14.He can't use it. Look at Cook in red, just spinning, spinning. How to

:28:15. > :28:18.go high quality and has to get high scores. He hasn't been able to get

:28:19. > :28:25.near his man. He's taken him again. It's got to be all over. Inside the

:28:26. > :28:31.third round, a 12 point margin is enough and you're looking at it.

:28:32. > :28:35.14-2, a massive upset on the taekwondo mat. Congratulations to

:28:36. > :28:42.Liu Wei-Ting of Chinese Taipei. The 21-year-old has beaten Aaron Cook,

:28:43. > :28:45.the number two in the world. The former world number one, the man who

:28:46. > :28:54.had so much motivation here. He changed nations to get on the mat.

:28:55. > :28:57.He wanted gold and nothing less. Unless Liu Wei-Ting continues

:28:58. > :29:05.through, Aaron Cook's Olympic Games are over right there. Well, great

:29:06. > :29:13.for Liu Wei-Ting. He goes through to the quarterfinals. Not time to

:29:14. > :29:18.celebrate, he still has a job to do. He had a height advantage over Aaron

:29:19. > :29:23.Cook. Aaron Cook could not get close enough. He it absolutely everything

:29:24. > :29:28.in his third round. He just kept getting counter-attacked. He will be

:29:29. > :29:31.absolutely devastated. He will sit and wait now to see if there is an

:29:32. > :29:35.opportunity to come back in the repechage. That will only happen if

:29:36. > :29:41.Liu Wei-Ting goes through to the final. The chance for gold and

:29:42. > :29:45.silver are gone. A possible bronze. Possible at best. There have been

:29:46. > :29:51.some upsets here on the taekwondo mat. No doubt about that, there

:29:52. > :29:54.always are. That was right up there. A very entertaining bout. Look at

:29:55. > :30:01.that to finish it off, what a manoeuvre. Absolutely heartbreaking.

:30:02. > :30:05.Obviously I am happy that I'm here and I had the opportunity to play

:30:06. > :30:10.it. But, oh my God. I just went down to early with the headshot. It was a

:30:11. > :30:15.lot bigger and that was the game plan to try and move away and keep

:30:16. > :30:18.it tight and steel underneath. A couple of shots didn't go my way in

:30:19. > :30:23.the first little bit and then it's got a head so I had to chase. I just

:30:24. > :30:29.got caught every time I was trying to spin. I'm gutted. We know for

:30:30. > :30:32.what she went through in the build-up to London 2012 how

:30:33. > :30:37.difficult it was and the emotions. How much of that was on your mind

:30:38. > :30:42.when you came out here? Not too much, I was excited when I was in

:30:43. > :30:47.the back. I was relaxed and warming up good. I felt really good this

:30:48. > :30:52.morning. Why did I have a day like that at the Olympics? It is soul

:30:53. > :30:59.destroying. But I've got to pick myself up and keep trying.

:31:00. > :31:06.You switched over and are now competing for Moldova, what is it

:31:07. > :31:10.been like? The disappointment obviously from

:31:11. > :31:14.London, I was number one in the world and didn't get an opportunity

:31:15. > :31:18.to fight in London. I didn't see a pathway with Team GB and Moldova

:31:19. > :31:24.approached us and gave me this amazing opportunity. I feel I have

:31:25. > :31:30.let everyone down. I am absolutely gutted and I am really sorry because

:31:31. > :31:35.I know everyone had high hopes and I myself had high hopes and I am

:31:36. > :31:44.really devastated. Will you be back the Tokyo? We will see. Of course, I

:31:45. > :31:50.will be back, but this really hurts so it will take some time.

:31:51. > :32:03.ORE ODUBA: Visibly disappointed there. His Olympics isn't through

:32:04. > :32:09.just yet because he can go through repechage. He was the second fighter

:32:10. > :32:14.in that match but as far as shots go, the world number one out, that

:32:15. > :32:19.is a big one. It is a big one. We talked about Lutalo Muhammad beating

:32:20. > :32:23.his first opponent, just because you are facing someone in the first

:32:24. > :32:27.round, doesn't mean they are a pushover and Liu Wei-Ting

:32:28. > :32:30.demonstrated that perfectly. It wasn't a narrow defeat, it was

:32:31. > :32:35.pretty comprehensive. You are looking someone who is not unknown

:32:36. > :32:39.in taekwondo by any stretch, he won the Canada Open earlier this year

:32:40. > :32:45.but as world number one, you are thinking, I will win this. To go out

:32:46. > :32:50.there, knowing as we were saying earlier, how much is riding on that,

:32:51. > :32:55.the rivalry with Lutalo, the dispute with British taekwondo, moving to

:32:56. > :32:59.Moldova, it is a huge shock and shame them. It could have been an

:33:00. > :33:04.incredible story and it would have been a sensational showdown in the

:33:05. > :33:08.final between Aaron and Lutalo. Lutalo I am sure will not mind at

:33:09. > :33:12.all. He probably will be kept away from looking at the draw. If I was

:33:13. > :33:18.his coach maybe I wouldn't even have him looking. He does have someone

:33:19. > :33:26.next to has won two Olympic titles. A veteran of the sport, 37 years

:33:27. > :33:31.old, be tough for Lutalo. Looking at the other side, with the absence of

:33:32. > :33:35.Cook, it is a chance. A really good chance and Great Britain have

:33:36. > :33:44.already won a taekwondo gold in the form of Jade Jones last night. The

:33:45. > :33:49.22nd on won by Great Britain in these Games. Such incredible range

:33:50. > :33:53.of sports. We have seen British athletes winning across something

:33:54. > :33:57.like 22 different disciplines. Obvious ones like athletics but

:33:58. > :34:02.Babington, Britain don't traditionally win medals in. Boxing,

:34:03. > :34:09.canoe slalom, and picking up medals in canoe slalom and sprint. These

:34:10. > :34:12.are sports traditionally, when you move away from London, the sports

:34:13. > :34:17.outside your home Olympics, it is tougher to win them. Diving,

:34:18. > :34:24.equestrian. Charlotte Dujardin, we expected to win. Britain picked up a

:34:25. > :34:31.medal in golf. Gymnastics, expected to win three, picked up seven. Judo,

:34:32. > :34:35.a sport in the past where you think, are you going to win a medal?

:34:36. > :34:38.Suddenly, all these sports, including new ones like Rugby

:34:39. > :34:44.Sevens, are delivering medals. You were tweeting earlier, Great Britain

:34:45. > :34:48.are winning more silvers at that stage in Rio than they were in

:34:49. > :34:53.London 2012. Maybe that was the story. As we have seen, although the

:34:54. > :34:57.medals have maybe been spread a little more between bronze, silver

:34:58. > :35:02.and gold, they are still picking them up. Greatest overseas Games

:35:03. > :35:06.ever by Great Britain. You talk about stories that have been picked

:35:07. > :35:10.up yet, just look at fourth places. You are looking at many more fourth

:35:11. > :35:15.places, just off the medal table than was the case in London 2012.

:35:16. > :35:20.Not only are you stacking up medals but also, stacking up the almost

:35:21. > :35:25.ones, that could be converted next time. Hoping they will be. Great

:35:26. > :35:28.Britain currently sitting second in the medal table but in a slightly

:35:29. > :35:30.revised medal table, Great Britain are sitting right at the top. Have a

:35:31. > :35:43.look at this. This is the statistics of medals won

:35:44. > :35:47.by all of the nations. We will do anything to find ourselves at the

:35:48. > :35:53.top of the medal table including warping the facts! LAUGHTER

:35:54. > :35:57.22 of those disciplines, very few Great Britain do not compete in and

:35:58. > :36:01.they are picking up medals in almost all the ones they do. It is in

:36:02. > :36:06.excess of the different variety the US is bringing and if you take

:36:07. > :36:14.swimming out of the equation... By the way, we are beating the United

:36:15. > :36:18.States... Look at China, Germany, Russia, these are big countries.

:36:19. > :36:23.Britain never expects to be fighting against China in a medal table but

:36:24. > :36:27.they are. Because of the sheer number of sports contributing. Not

:36:28. > :36:31.because of track cycling on its own or just a couple of sports on its

:36:32. > :36:37.own, but because almost every sport is chipping in.

:36:38. > :36:45.Do you reckon they will beat London 2012's tally? I think 24 golds, 23

:36:46. > :36:56.silver and that leaves about 18 or 19 bronze. I think we could match

:36:57. > :36:57.London's 2012 tally, it would be phenomenal unprecedented for a host

:36:58. > :37:04.of going into the next Games. This guy has entertained me no end

:37:05. > :37:18.over the last week and a half. If you have been inspired, and how

:37:19. > :37:21.could you not? Here is BBC Get Inspired.

:37:22. > :37:23.Get Inspired is BBC Sport's campaign to help you get active.

:37:24. > :37:26.It is on the website and you can find inspirational stories

:37:27. > :37:29.from people like you, as well as hints, tips and 70

:37:30. > :37:31.practical guides to help you give something a go.

:37:32. > :37:35.There is an activity finder to help you find something to try near you.

:37:36. > :37:39.You can ask questions through the social media accounts

:37:40. > :37:48.and maybe you can inspire someone else to give something a try.

:37:49. > :37:51.Now we are passing the baton over to you.

:37:52. > :37:59.Get up, get inspired, and get active.

:38:00. > :38:05.So many different ways you can do it. Get involved, why not? We have

:38:06. > :38:09.had an incredible couple of weeks, I'm starting to get emotional. What

:38:10. > :38:13.are we going to do in a few days' time when this is all gone? We are

:38:14. > :38:18.going to go back to some badminton right now. A few moments ago, we saw

:38:19. > :38:22.the world number one in the men's singles going into the final, Lee

:38:23. > :38:26.Chong Wei of Malaysia beating Lin Dan, the legendary Chinese player.

:38:27. > :38:32.In the women's singles, the gold medal match, the final, we will see

:38:33. > :39:08.Carolina Marin of Spain taking PVC and to of India. -- PV Sindhu.

:39:09. > :39:16.What does PV Sindhu have against Carolina Marin? Because of her

:39:17. > :39:22.performance in the second game, one feels the momentum is with Carolina

:39:23. > :39:27.Marin. A very strong start from her in the second game, that run of

:39:28. > :39:32.points and you have to be careful, the opposition, needs to make sure

:39:33. > :39:40.that she gets points very quickly. She takes the shuttle so quickly.

:39:41. > :39:52.PV Sindhu will have to be very aware of that. Carolina Marin raced to an

:39:53. > :39:54.11-2 lead in that second game and it was always going to be desperately

:39:55. > :40:35.difficult for PV Sindhu after that. It is effective. I would think it is

:40:36. > :40:40.a shot not used enough. In the men or the women's singles. Picking the

:40:41. > :41:20.right time to bring that shuttle into her body. Clever play.

:41:21. > :41:28.This final has been played at such a pace, great shot and pace of

:41:29. > :42:08.movement. So good. Just rolls that raced at

:42:09. > :42:13.the last moment, to keep the shuttle straight down the line. Look at

:42:14. > :42:22.that. Look at that. It is perfect play, taken so early as well. Nicely

:42:23. > :42:25.done. It is the natural shot that would have been played crosscourt.

:42:26. > :42:31.Drawing it straight is very good indeed.

:42:32. > :42:43.She has upped the tempo even more, Carolina Marin. She has only

:42:44. > :42:50.recently turned 23 and I have a belief that Carolina Marin will take

:42:51. > :42:57.the game of women's singles to an even higher level. She has

:42:58. > :43:01.incredible speed around the court, great movement and she picked up

:43:02. > :43:02.four quick points because of that, the way she anticipates and finishes

:43:03. > :43:22.the rally so early. She is dictating the pace,

:43:23. > :43:28.commanding the rallies, Carolina Marin. PV Sindhu is now having to be

:43:29. > :43:53.reactive rather than proactive. They are looking a little calmer

:43:54. > :43:58.now, the Spanish bench. And in contrast... Never usually shows any

:43:59. > :44:22.feelings at all, looking slightly anxious.

:44:23. > :45:24.Brilliant. Punched clear, deep into the backhand corner, where she was

:45:25. > :45:29.equal to it that time, going for the backhand rather than trying to play

:45:30. > :45:34.around the head and it was so flat, in fact, I don't even know if it was

:45:35. > :45:36.meant to be a clear. Was it a flat smashed or a clear? More of a flat

:45:37. > :45:45.smash really. Difficult to tell. The great skills of being able to

:45:46. > :46:01.transition into attack. Great play by PV Sindhu. She's hanging in

:46:02. > :46:06.there. I'm still none the wiser. It is why the umpire is having to is

:46:07. > :46:16.weak first to PV Sindhu and then Carolina Marin. That's clever. That

:46:17. > :46:24.is very, very good. Pushed ahead. I'm thinking clearly now.

:46:25. > :46:35.Look how she's moving forward as well, at the back and being played

:46:36. > :46:47.from PV Sindhu. Marin would have been ready and waiting. A forehand

:46:48. > :47:06.smash. So crisp. So perfectly placed.

:47:07. > :47:50.I was just mesmerised in that rally by Carolina Marin's footwork.

:47:51. > :47:55.Because she got pulled forward, she got pushed back. She had to come

:47:56. > :48:00.forward again. It's wonderful footwork, isn't it? Just keeping the

:48:01. > :48:06.balance and keeping control. Two steps forward into the net. Puts in

:48:07. > :48:07.a great position to play those angles across court and Seppi shot

:48:08. > :48:22.up. -- and set the shot up. A good net shot. That was going

:48:23. > :48:47.wide. That was going well wide. These badminton players actually

:48:48. > :48:51.judge whether they are going to land in or out partly by whether or not

:48:52. > :48:56.their opponent hit the shot. Then after that you have to take into

:48:57. > :49:00.account the drift. When you see a certain shot from your opponent you

:49:01. > :49:05.automatically say, that's going to land in. That's when you try playing

:49:06. > :49:16.it, that's why we see that so often. We don't always have the sideways

:49:17. > :49:24.drift is so pronounced as this. -- sideways drifters.

:49:25. > :49:35.A good backhand. A superb backhand. And all of a sudden the deficit is

:49:36. > :49:43.reduced to just two points. Look at that! Beautiful angle, isn't it?

:49:44. > :50:03.Virtually no backswing of the racket.

:50:04. > :50:16.A good net shot. Just one point is the deficit now. On a run of four

:50:17. > :50:55.straight points, PV Sindhu. I thought that might have gone wide

:50:56. > :51:00.as well. What O'Reilly. Good judgment from Carolina Marin. What's

:51:01. > :51:04.impressive is that she got herself in the perfect position to play it.

:51:05. > :51:11.I think she may have even had time to look down at the line, look back

:51:12. > :51:13.about the shuttle to be sure of her spatial awareness, and then made the

:51:14. > :51:49.correct decision. Smashed down the line. Where is the

:51:50. > :51:55.attacking shot? The final one? Straight at Carolina Marin. There we

:51:56. > :51:58.go. It's been really effective play for her, that body smash. Great

:51:59. > :52:33.movement forward. Great pressure. They're both being pushed to the

:52:34. > :52:50.back, both being brought forward. The amount of court that has been

:52:51. > :53:03.covered. Unbelievable! What a rally. Five points adrift just a moment

:53:04. > :53:09.ago. PV Sindhu, that is as good a rally in women's singles I think

:53:10. > :53:18.you'll ever see. How on earth did she get that back? That's incredible

:53:19. > :53:25.play, isn't it? Stretching each other to the four corners of the

:53:26. > :53:36.court. That's badminton at it's highest quality. This next rally

:53:37. > :53:38.will decide who has the advantage. The momentum with PV Sindhu, six of

:53:39. > :53:55.the last seven points. Carolina Marin once the shuttle

:53:56. > :54:02.changed. PV Sindhu says, no, I'm very happy with that one. --

:54:03. > :54:07.Carolina Marin wants the shuttle changed. The mind games of elite

:54:08. > :54:41.level sport. It's gone long, and it is the World

:54:42. > :54:47.Champion, Carolina Marin, who has the advantage. Albeit a slim

:54:48. > :54:54.advantage. Now, did she twisted her ankle that? Take a look at this. A

:54:55. > :55:05.little bit of a limp on the way through. Maybe she just jarred it as

:55:06. > :55:06.she landed. We saw a horrific injury in the semifinal yesterday. We don't

:55:07. > :55:26.need any more injuries. The defending Olympic champion badly

:55:27. > :55:33.injured her knee playing against Marin. So badly, in fact, that she

:55:34. > :55:39.hasn't been able to contest the bronze medal play-off match. But we

:55:40. > :56:26.have got a thriller on our hands here. The gold medal match.

:56:27. > :56:36.So, the last chapter of the women's singles. 11-10, the World Champion

:56:37. > :56:54.leads in this deciding game. Oh, that was clever. Nothing on the

:56:55. > :57:08.pace of shot. The penultimate shot from Carolina Marin. Totally

:57:09. > :57:16.deceived PV Sindhu. That is a very purposeful walk back to serve via.

:57:17. > :57:38.Purposeful from the left-hander. Well, I question mark as to whether

:57:39. > :57:42.she should be warned for that because you're not allowed to look

:57:43. > :57:43.straight at your opponent, neither show a fist or yell like that.

:57:44. > :58:15.You're not allowed to intimidate. Well, was that they challenge

:58:16. > :58:24.immediately from PV Sindhu? Here we go. Oh, yes. I think she might have

:58:25. > :58:30.a point there. The first challenge of this deciding game. Carolina

:58:31. > :58:38.Marin hasn't made one challenge at all. Is it hair that maybe

:58:39. > :58:44.challenge? I think it might be Marin that maybe challenge. The call was

:58:45. > :58:50.possibly out. It was a little confusing. I thought they were both

:58:51. > :58:52.going up with the indication of it. Well, the instant review will tell

:58:53. > :59:01.us quite categorically whether it was in or out.

:59:02. > :59:12.It did catch the line. Couldn't get any closer. Perfect shot. Full

:59:13. > :59:25.stretch from the diagonal right over to the corner. Nicely played. So,

:59:26. > :00:07.the to How desperately the Indian player

:00:08. > :00:16.needed that because one just thought of themselves that the run of points

:00:17. > :00:27.for Carolina Marin needed to be broken. -- one just thought that the

:00:28. > :00:31.run of points. That is so good, that all comes about because of the fast

:00:32. > :00:34.be to get behind the shuttle for that smashed down the line. Just

:00:35. > :00:39.watch her footwork here. But is tremendous. Wonderful movement,

:00:40. > :01:05.isn't it? Getting right behind the shuttle. Quick down the line.

:01:06. > :01:32.The nerves are beginning to kick in. Very, very understandable.

:01:33. > :01:45.Just wide. There is a challenge here from Sindhu and I fear it will be a

:01:46. > :02:01.wasted challenge. Because I think that was wide. Yes.

:02:02. > :02:44.They are sticklers, these umpires about keeping the kit box tidy.

:02:45. > :03:04.Carolina Marin's towel just hanging over the edge of the kit box.

:03:05. > :03:23.That is a good smash. That must certainly isn't. -- most certainly.

:03:24. > :03:34.Normally, Carolina Marin works the rallies so well. Just looking a

:03:35. > :03:46.little overanxious in that previous running, to finish it off.

:03:47. > :03:55.There is another error. The nerves are most definitely kicking in with

:03:56. > :04:09.Carolina Marin. The two occasions when Sindhu has

:04:10. > :04:29.beaten her opponent of the day, they have both gone to three games.

:04:30. > :04:59.Yes, that was a big pressure point and both players know it.

:05:00. > :05:24.Creeping ever closer to that goal line of 21 points.

:05:25. > :05:36.Yes. Well played, well constructed. It is great movement, coming across

:05:37. > :05:44.to take the shuttle and finish it with that net play. So tight again,

:05:45. > :05:47.getting the lift. Three points away, Carolina Marin. From the Olympic

:05:48. > :06:01.gold medal. I have been told by -- they have

:06:02. > :06:15.been told by the umpire to play on. It has gone wide. Two tantalising

:06:16. > :06:37.points. That is what is needed by the left-handed Spaniard.

:06:38. > :06:46.That is brilliant, that is utterly brilliant, taking the shuttle early,

:06:47. > :06:53.Carolina Marin, and guiding the shuttle across court. That is

:06:54. > :06:57.perfect. And six match point opportunities for the world

:06:58. > :07:45.champion. To become the Olympic champion.

:07:46. > :08:17.Watched it all the way. One gold medal point has been squandered.

:08:18. > :08:26.The second one is converted. Carolina Marin, the European

:08:27. > :08:28.champion, the world champion and now, she is the Olympic champion as

:08:29. > :08:51.well. final and PV Sindhu, obvious

:08:52. > :09:02.disappointment for her as Carolina Marin dissolves into tears, tears of

:09:03. > :09:12.joy and a nice touch from PV Sindhu. She congratulates her opponent. The

:09:13. > :09:23.enormity of what she has just achieved, Carolina Marin, beginning

:09:24. > :09:29.to sink in. Only the second ever European player to win an Olympic

:09:30. > :09:35.gold medal. The first was in the men's singles in 1996 and a lovely

:09:36. > :09:42.touch there, that Carolina Marin, going and shaking the hand of the

:09:43. > :09:52.Indian coach. But the celebration with her own coaches, Fernando Reeve

:09:53. > :09:53.Ascom who has masterminded her development into the world's very

:09:54. > :10:08.best player. If you were in any doubt about what

:10:09. > :10:11.an Olympic gold means, you just saw it there, Carolina Marin becoming

:10:12. > :10:16.the Olympic champion and only the second European to win a gold medal

:10:17. > :10:22.in the history of Olympic badminton. Only introduced to the programme in

:10:23. > :10:27.1992, the last was in 1996, a European gold medal. Carolina Marin,

:10:28. > :10:35.the world number one, rightly so, chewing on her Olympic gold medal.

:10:36. > :10:39.Huge congratulations de Gea. -- to her.

:10:40. > :10:47.Let's talk to you a little bit about water polo, it takes place over

:10:48. > :10:52.there. We have been to the Aquatic Centre for a while. Just beyond that

:10:53. > :10:56.green sign blocking the view. Typical! In the water polo, we

:10:57. > :11:01.talked about it for the last couple of weeks, Hungary, the men's

:11:02. > :11:04.competition, the greatest Olympic nation ever. Nine times, they have

:11:05. > :11:09.come away with the Olympic gold medal in the history of the summer

:11:10. > :11:13.Games but things didn't end well for them at Rio 2016. They were in the

:11:14. > :11:18.quarterfinals, having topped their pool and they played Montenegrin. It

:11:19. > :11:24.went to a shoot out and it was the Montenegrin players who came out on

:11:25. > :11:27.top. Hungary going home, you can see it on their faces, incredibly

:11:28. > :11:33.disappointed. No medals for them whatsoever at the quarterfinal

:11:34. > :11:39.stage. The baton moved over to the women and in their competition, they

:11:40. > :11:45.found themselves in the bronze medal match. Taking on Russia. After four

:11:46. > :11:50.periods, this match again went to penalties.

:11:51. > :11:57.We will join it after the match finished at 12-12. We will go

:11:58. > :12:05.through another nerve shattering shoot out. COMMENTATOR: Edina Gangl

:12:06. > :12:12.for Hungary against the Russians. Borisova puts Russia in front 1-0.

:12:13. > :12:16.This is impressive from Borisova, we have not called her name today, she

:12:17. > :12:28.hasn't been on the score board. She puts it away cleanly. Barbara Boyko

:12:29. > :12:35.for Hungary, prolific number ten. Taking on Anna Karnaukh. The

:12:36. > :12:45.goalkeeper went the right way but too much pace on it. She shakes the

:12:46. > :12:49.ball, a bit of a spin on it. Curving it towards the right hand. She has

:12:50. > :12:58.had a smile a couple of times in those ranges. Lisunova for Russia

:12:59. > :13:05.against Gangl. Lisunova wide of the goalkeeper's arm and Russia edge

:13:06. > :13:10.ahead once again. This is a great shot, she rises up out of the water.

:13:11. > :13:14.You need to make sure you extend at the right time and rise and release

:13:15. > :13:24.that ball, particularly as just go straight into the back the net.

:13:25. > :13:30.Hanna Kisteleki next for Hungary. Here is Kisteleki as well. She sends

:13:31. > :13:36.the goalkeeper the wrong way. Another good penalty under pressure.

:13:37. > :13:40.It is not to be underestimated, that continual motion, once the whistle

:13:41. > :13:44.sounds from the referee, to come up out of the water and make sure you

:13:45. > :13:47.have thought where you want to go but if the goalkeeper goes there, it

:13:48. > :13:52.is even more of a challenge and you only have one chance take it.

:13:53. > :14:00.Karimova, slight hesitation from the goalkeeper. It finds the bottom

:14:01. > :14:04.corner so Karimova keeps up the 100% record in the shoot out. It looks

:14:05. > :14:15.easy from here, they are making it look easy.

:14:16. > :14:24.It is Kisteleki who bounces that one in the goal, the captain leading by

:14:25. > :14:29.example. Just a thought for whichever side doesn't come through

:14:30. > :14:33.this, how excruciating to lose the chance to get an Olympic medal. It

:14:34. > :14:40.will be devastating for whoever cannot get through. The next Russian

:14:41. > :14:51.penalty, it was a slow on and straight into the bottom corner from

:14:52. > :14:55.Brockel Reeva -- Prokofyeva. She was waiting for the whistle to take the

:14:56. > :14:58.shot and she is not even looking at the goalkeeper, she was so confident

:14:59. > :15:05.and you exactly where she wanted to go. Dora Czigany for the Hungarian

:15:06. > :15:10.is. She have to make sure she doesn't come forward and another one

:15:11. > :15:17.for Hungary, 100% record from eight penalties. Nothing to split these

:15:18. > :15:22.two sides. Both of them have been trained, they have been outstanding

:15:23. > :15:28.and the keepers equally, can't fault them in this situation either.

:15:29. > :15:33.Someone is going to come up short. Hungary coming to shoot again.

:15:34. > :15:45.Russia with the shooter, five out of five.

:15:46. > :15:49.This must be scored otherwise it will be the Russian Federation that

:15:50. > :16:06.will take bronze. Into the net for 5-5. We are now

:16:07. > :16:08.down to sudden death. I'm nervous up here watching it. We can only

:16:09. > :16:14.imagine how they're feeling down there. Each one of the shooters has

:16:15. > :16:25.not looked scared or nervous in their delivery. We are back to

:16:26. > :16:40.square one. 5-5 so far in the shoot out. Borisova a game. Look at her,

:16:41. > :16:44.she is absolutely cool as steel as she bounced that one of the water. A

:16:45. > :16:52.little more elevation that time. You really need confidence. Barbara

:16:53. > :17:01.scored her first. This is her second chance now. Into the corner once

:17:02. > :17:07.again. There are no second chances now. The challenge you have with

:17:08. > :17:15.using the surface of the water, it is still inconsistent as to where it

:17:16. > :17:23.might skip and deflects to. Lisunova for Russia.

:17:24. > :17:32.Into the corner, and other quality penalty shot for the Russian

:17:33. > :17:37.Federation. No chance for the goalkeeper either with any of these

:17:38. > :17:45.penalties. Both teams have gone to the left or right side. They've not

:17:46. > :17:57.gone over the goalkeeper's head. The goalkeeper is not quite back on her

:17:58. > :18:01.line for this one. It is saved! Saved by Karnaukh, and a win the

:18:02. > :18:05.bronze medal. It is disappointment for hungry once again for the third

:18:06. > :18:09.consecutive Olympic Games. They have to be content with a fourth place

:18:10. > :18:14.finish. The Russian Federation have won it in a penalty shoot out in

:18:15. > :18:20.dramatic fashion. Would you believe it? The poor Hungarians were

:18:21. > :18:23.virtually inconsolable having come back, they must have thought the

:18:24. > :18:28.bronze medal was theirs. The coaches are in the water as well now. What a

:18:29. > :18:35.performance by Russia. They held their nerve when it mattered the

:18:36. > :18:42.most. STUDIO: not the result hungry want.

:18:43. > :18:45.After the men's disappointment, it is exactly the same heartache for

:18:46. > :18:49.the women. Russia win the bronze medal and they deserve to do so.

:18:50. > :18:53.Even though hungry in the women's game on the same superpower as the

:18:54. > :18:58.men are, that is seriously going to sting. As they were saying in

:18:59. > :19:05.commentary for another successive games hungry go away without a

:19:06. > :19:08.medal. -- another successive games, Hungary go away without a medal.

:19:09. > :19:13.That's another dip around the grounds and see what is going on. So

:19:14. > :19:17.much like offering for you on the Red Button, the website and the art

:19:18. > :19:21.as well. The men's semifinal action going on in the volleyball, Italy

:19:22. > :19:29.against the USA. The best of five sets in this game, the USA leading

:19:30. > :19:33.in the opening one just that. The USA, one of the big names in this

:19:34. > :19:38.one. Tonight it's Russia against Brazil who are the world number

:19:39. > :19:43.ones. That will be heated. If volleyball is what you want to watch

:19:44. > :19:47.than had ever to the Red Button, the website and the app. There is also

:19:48. > :19:55.football going on right now. Brazil and the men into the final trying to

:19:56. > :20:00.end with an Olympic gold medal. The women lost agonisingly on penalties

:20:01. > :20:04.a couple of days ago against Sweden. They've got a chance to come away

:20:05. > :20:08.from the home games with a medal. They're in a bronze medal match

:20:09. > :20:12.right now against Canada. A little tricky moment therefore one of the

:20:13. > :20:15.Canadian players needing a bit of treatment. Brazil won't care one

:20:16. > :20:26.bit, they have medals to wind down there. And over on BBC One right now

:20:27. > :20:32.they are going to be showing some equestrian because having missed out

:20:33. > :20:36.on a show-jumping team medal they could come away with individual

:20:37. > :20:42.honours. Nick Skelton will be going in his final run on BBC One at

:20:43. > :20:47.5:30pm. Trying to add two more equestrian medal is that Great

:20:48. > :20:51.Britain have one here at the games. Right now on BBC One it's hockey

:20:52. > :20:55.time, a bronze medal match in the women's competition. It features

:20:56. > :20:59.Germany against New Zealand. Museum two were beaten by Great Britain in

:21:00. > :21:04.the semifinals. They have come forth a couple of. -- New Zealand, who

:21:05. > :21:09.were beaten by Great Britain in the semifinals. Germany always

:21:10. > :21:15.dangerous. The score right now, let's have a 2-1 to Germany. Into

:21:16. > :21:21.the fourth quarter. A very exciting time if you want to join right now

:21:22. > :21:22.on BBC One. However it is all about tonight because Great Britain could

:21:23. > :21:40.more history. COMMENTATOR: it's a goal for Alex

:21:41. > :21:46.Stanton. It's pushed home. Great Britain at the moment are the top

:21:47. > :21:47.team in this Olympic tournament. Richardson Walsh, goal for Great

:21:48. > :22:03.Britain! Dry flick, score. Great Britain will

:22:04. > :22:10.go to the Olympic semifinal. They will face New Zealand. It is pushed

:22:11. > :22:18.home, it is scored. Alex Stanton gets the first goal of the match.

:22:19. > :22:19.Great Britain 3-0 in front. She's got it, Great Britain are in the

:22:20. > :22:27.Olympic final. The first time they've been into a

:22:28. > :22:32.hockey final, Great Britain's winning here at the games. You can

:22:33. > :22:36.watch that one tonight on BBC One. The gold medal is a real

:22:37. > :22:42.possibility. What are the prospects in the Gulf, because a few moments

:22:43. > :22:45.ago it showed us the first hole in one in a women's Olympic golf

:22:46. > :22:49.tournament at least for 100 years. How long have we had to wait for the

:22:50. > :22:54.next one? Not that long at all. It looked to

:22:55. > :23:00.Gillick in both aerial shots. The wind is whipping in from the sea. --

:23:01. > :23:03.it looked idyllic. While it has caused some problems it has also

:23:04. > :23:10.produced the moments of brilliance. We shall China's linseeds you with

:23:11. > :23:14.the first hole in one in the women's competition. Just about half an hour

:23:15. > :23:18.later, almost a carbon copy. This is well number one Lydia Ko from New

:23:19. > :23:25.Zealand also on the eighth with the second hole in one of the games. The

:23:26. > :23:31.men, of course, also managed to macro hole in ones. Justin Rose as

:23:32. > :23:34.well, he went on to win the gold. Successful Great Britain, and

:23:35. > :23:36.successful Great Britain at the moment in round three because

:23:37. > :23:42.Charley Hull is going great guns. She's had such a dramatic ground.

:23:43. > :23:47.She has found the Bunker Hill and seven but she's had such a dramatic

:23:48. > :23:52.round so far. -- she has found a bunker here. She hit the water but

:23:53. > :23:56.the ball skimmed off the surface and bounced onto a nearby mound of sand.

:23:57. > :24:01.From there she managed to save par. She got a bogey on the fourth. A

:24:02. > :24:06.couple of back-to-back birdies mean she is not tied in second and is

:24:07. > :24:10.three shots from our leader. You can see Inbee Park is also on the sand

:24:11. > :24:17.in the seventh. She has had such a regular round. She has built up a

:24:18. > :24:21.three shot lead over just the first six holes of this. Three birdies on

:24:22. > :24:27.her card so far. A three shot lead for the seven time major champion,

:24:28. > :24:36.Inbee Park. We will hand you over to the live commentary.

:24:37. > :24:42.COMMENTATOR: trying to snap it out. Brilliant, fantastic. Just behind

:24:43. > :24:56.the ball you can hear the noise of the snap. Trying to come across the

:24:57. > :25:02.ball. Look where the clubface goes. Gosh, a great shot. It's going to

:25:03. > :25:10.require some very good golf from someone behind her to overtake her,

:25:11. > :25:14.certainly today. Tomorrow's a different day. Stacy Lewis is

:25:15. > :25:22.finding that out today. She hasn't shown any weaknesses in her game

:25:23. > :25:28.full today. Now, Lydia Ko with this testing little par. Putting today

:25:29. > :25:36.seems to have been better than it's been in the last couple of days.

:25:37. > :25:43.That is a good example, you can see the speed with which the ball went

:25:44. > :25:47.in. A good, confident putt from Lydia. She remains very much in the

:25:48. > :25:51.frame to 9-under. She's making her way safely through the tough

:25:52. > :25:54.stretch. She will have just a little bit of vantage over the rest of the

:25:55. > :26:03.field if she can avoid dropping shots. She still has the 15th to

:26:04. > :26:11.play. 342 metres. She eagled that yesterday, Lydia Ko. Or the first,

:26:12. > :26:27.was it? Stacy Lewis for birdie on eight.

:26:28. > :26:42.This is Marianne Skarpnord from Norway. Second to the ninth.

:26:43. > :26:57.Good shot, just spend back a little. -- spins back a little.

:26:58. > :27:07.Brooke Henderson here, second on nine.

:27:08. > :27:21.Again, we've seen these greens very receptive all three days. What an up

:27:22. > :27:28.or down -- what an up and down this would be for Britain's Charley Hull.

:27:29. > :27:35.It's not going to be. Shot gone on the eighth. And Charley Hull will

:27:36. > :28:10.drop back to 8-under par. That is where she started the day.

:28:11. > :28:49.Birdie putt here for Canada's Brooke Henderson.

:28:50. > :29:01.A good-looking effort. Short of pace. Onto the 11th, from the United

:29:02. > :29:11.States, Gerina Piller. Per second to the par-4. She is 10-under. She's

:29:12. > :29:19.found the sand. Conditions are a lot more difficult now this afternoon.

:29:20. > :29:27.Coming up to 1:30pm as this wind howls across this golf course, the

:29:28. > :29:29.Olympic Golf Course. Inbee Park to tidy up here for her par on the

:29:30. > :29:42.eighth. She stays in the lead. Two shots

:29:43. > :29:46.clear of Gerina Piller. Some work to do in the sand and 11 for her. Lydia

:29:47. > :30:15.Ko. Shanshan Feng at 9-under par. A birdie putt A194 Marianne

:30:16. > :30:26.Skarpnord. -- a birdie putt at nine four Marianne Skarpnord. This is the

:30:27. > :30:32.ninth, 324 yards. A couple of big mounds in front of the green. No

:30:33. > :30:41.bunkers in front. But that pin today, back right. The ninth tee,

:30:42. > :30:58.Inbee Park, tournament leader at 12-under.

:30:59. > :31:02.It's a good shot down the left-hand side, but that is fine there.

:31:03. > :31:10.Absolutely fine. Her swing has burned Inbee Park

:31:11. > :31:26.seven major Championships. Stacy Lewis back to six under par.

:31:27. > :31:54.Three over par for her round today. Up ahead on the 11th, Gerina Piller

:31:55. > :32:08.in the sand. This is his third shot on the par-4 Mack. -- her third shot

:32:09. > :32:09.on the par-4. That is a great shot, nicely played, had the wind behind

:32:10. > :32:27.her as well. See how that flagstick is bending in

:32:28. > :32:31.the wind. The tenth, par-5, beginning her homeward nine,

:32:32. > :32:51.Canada's Brooke Henderson. Water all the way along the left.

:32:52. > :33:08.Marianne Skarpnord at 8-under par, 12 back from Inbee Park, the leader.

:33:09. > :33:45.Charley Hull at 8-under par. And somewhere in there, it is not

:33:46. > :33:52.way she wants to be. -- where she wants to be.

:33:53. > :34:27.Going up to 15 now, Leona Maguire from Ireland, her second shot.

:34:28. > :34:52.Leona Maguire playing with Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko.

:34:53. > :34:56.Coming down a yard or two right, we have got to start this in the

:34:57. > :35:11.bunker. Is her second to 15, Lydia Ko, pars

:35:12. > :35:25.all the way back on the backline so far. -- back nine so far. It just

:35:26. > :35:31.comes up short. Back down the fairway and that is a tough shot

:35:32. > :35:34.given with the pin is cut today. She is a little surprised it didn't kick

:35:35. > :35:39.on because it could have rolled close to the pin if it had got to

:35:40. > :36:08.the top but it wasn't to be. It was just the run of the green.

:36:09. > :36:21.Charley Hull, second to nine. This was a very exposed part of the

:36:22. > :36:35.course, just in front of the clubhouse.

:36:36. > :36:48.She was between clubs. It was the general consensus, the pin was

:36:49. > :36:57.between the two of them and she came up short, took the wrong club in the

:36:58. > :37:09.end. Inbee Park. Coming off that bogey. And, wow, she has got a few

:37:10. > :37:14.problems as well. The key in these windy conditions is course

:37:15. > :37:18.management. You can't help but think that someone like Lydia Ko, even

:37:19. > :37:21.though she is only 19, the vast experience she has had playing golf

:37:22. > :37:27.all around the world, these conditions would help. But a lot of

:37:28. > :37:34.these girls may be... Good par. Wouldn't strike in conditions as

:37:35. > :37:40.windy as this. Good par for Gerina Piller. Second to nine, Stacy Lewis.

:37:41. > :37:50.This is the last group Inbee Park, Stacy Lewis, Charley Hull.

:37:51. > :38:02.Someone who is still playing herself very much and contention, China's

:38:03. > :38:15.number one, Shanshan Feng. 220 yards to the hole. That is a good golf

:38:16. > :38:20.shot. That was probably her caddy. Lydia Ko, after that unfortunate

:38:21. > :38:24.bounce, you can see the pin, in the crosswind which they have to contend

:38:25. > :38:30.with, she is pretty good at the shots, part of his strength. You can

:38:31. > :38:37.see the effect of the wind, it just stopped and it dropped. The wind

:38:38. > :38:41.causing some real havoc down here. We are with our back to the ninth

:38:42. > :38:45.fairway so we have just see Charley Hull, Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park

:38:46. > :38:48.play through behind us. Charley Hull looking like she's struggling with

:38:49. > :38:54.the wind because it is very exposed on the course on the night and the

:38:55. > :38:57.first fairway streaming off down that way. Back-to-back bogeys for

:38:58. > :39:03.Charley Hull which mean she is now 8-under par, four shots off the

:39:04. > :39:07.lead. Even the leader, Inbee Park of Korea, struggling as well. Dropping

:39:08. > :39:13.a shot on the seventh. You can follow the golf at here in the sun

:39:14. > :39:17.and wind on the Red Button for cable and satellite viewers and on the BBC

:39:18. > :39:21.sport app and live online on the website as well but for now in the

:39:22. > :39:27.sun and wind, it is back to Ore Oduba.

:39:28. > :39:34.I am expecting a hole-in-one in about 38 minutes, can you sort me

:39:35. > :39:42.out? I can try but I can't promise anything! That will continue all

:39:43. > :39:47.over the place. Let's go down to the BMX, semifinal time for the men and

:39:48. > :39:51.women and Jill Douglas, a real shame that we will see no Liam Phillips or

:39:52. > :39:54.Kyle Evans. Both British riders bowing out yesterday in the

:39:55. > :40:01.quarterfinal stage. Kyle Evans just missed the cut. But we will hear

:40:02. > :40:06.more from him I'm sure. Liam Phillips, so disappointing for him,

:40:07. > :40:10.he crashed in his first run of the quarterfinal, just a few seconds in.

:40:11. > :40:14.He was taken to hospital with a concussion but I'm glad to say he is

:40:15. > :40:17.out of hospital and we might catch up with him later today. He is

:40:18. > :40:20.watching the semifinals and the final later on the BMX. We have seen

:40:21. > :40:35.the women in action. We are getting ready for the men's

:40:36. > :40:39.first heat. I'm sure Simon Rutherford and Sir Chris Hoy could

:40:40. > :40:44.explain it much better than me. Thank you. We're almost ready for

:40:45. > :40:49.this first run in the first heat of the semifinals. Luis Brethauer, from

:40:50. > :40:52.Germany. Former world bronze-medallist. David Graf from

:40:53. > :40:56.Switzerland who got the bronze medal in the World Championship in

:40:57. > :41:01.Columbia. From the Netherlands, Jelle van Gorkom, world

:41:02. > :41:11.silver-medallist in 2015, been riding really well in Rio. Plenty of

:41:12. > :41:17.Dutch interest in this BMX. Carlos Ramirez, one of two Colombian

:41:18. > :41:26.riders. His compatriot alongside him, Carlos Oquendo, the

:41:27. > :41:28.bronze-medallist in London four years ago. Just out side the medals

:41:29. > :41:40.in the worlds. Corben Sharrah from the United

:41:41. > :41:49.States, won the first big event of the season in Argentina.

:41:50. > :42:04.His compatriot, Nicholas Long, the world bronze-medallist.

:42:05. > :42:15.And Anthony Dean from Australia, fourth in the World Championship

:42:16. > :42:19.four years ago. Dean has looked extremely sharp in the races we have

:42:20. > :42:20.seen so far. This is the first run of three in this half of the

:42:21. > :42:38.semifinal draw. Away they go in this first run in

:42:39. > :42:43.the first semifinal. Dean making a good start, as does Van Gorkom of

:42:44. > :42:48.the Netherlands. Around the first corner, everybody staying on their

:42:49. > :42:52.bikes. Dean leading the way, Van Gorkom in second place. Colombians

:42:53. > :42:57.challenging in third and fourth. Oquendo challenging Ramirez and

:42:58. > :43:01.Ramirez in third at the moment. Dean with some daylight between him and

:43:02. > :43:06.the Dutch rider but Van Gorkom getting closer and closer. Around

:43:07. > :43:10.the final turn, in towards the finishing straight, up towards the

:43:11. > :43:17.line, Dean of Australia in first and Van Gorkom in second and Ramirez in

:43:18. > :43:21.third. That was an incredibly close race. Dean firmly in charge but the

:43:22. > :43:25.Colombians happy to get the top four places. The Americans potentially

:43:26. > :43:30.find themselves in a bit of bother in fifth and sixth. David Graf as

:43:31. > :43:34.well rolling across the line at the back of the field but Dean is

:43:35. > :43:38.continuing that great series of runs we saw from him yesterday. Getting a

:43:39. > :43:43.great start, the inside line is the major advantage going into the first

:43:44. > :43:48.turn. You see how close they are, it is incredible how they stay upright.

:43:49. > :43:52.When we get through turn on, we didn't see anything of Nicholas Long

:43:53. > :43:56.or Corben Sharrah for the rest of the race. They were in good

:43:57. > :44:00.contention at this point but the Colombians down the back straight

:44:01. > :44:04.into the second term, starting to take control. Momentum is a key

:44:05. > :44:07.thing in the second straight, not much opportunity to pedal so you

:44:08. > :44:17.have to get your landing spot on to carry that momentum. All the way to

:44:18. > :44:20.the finishing line. They have been a few attempts to go up the inside on

:44:21. > :44:25.that last corner, it is a popular move. Anthony Dean warming down,

:44:26. > :44:31.they will be back on the track fairly quickly, it is roughly every

:44:32. > :44:35.20 minutes. A lot of effort in 35 seconds and every second of that

:44:36. > :44:39.recovery, they will be making use of, it is not easy to turn it around

:44:40. > :44:44.in that short space of time. The starters for the second semifinal,

:44:45. > :44:51.heat two. Sam Willoughby from Australia heading the field. Trent

:44:52. > :44:56.Jones from New Zealand, the Oceania champion. He has ridden very well so

:44:57. > :45:00.far, the 22-year-old, spent most of the last couple of years based in

:45:01. > :45:08.the United States to further his BMX career. From the Netherlands, Niek

:45:09. > :45:16.Kimmann, still just 20 years of age. Struggling with an injury following

:45:17. > :45:21.a crash yesterday. From Venezuela, Jefferson Milano, the 22-year-old

:45:22. > :45:31.from Caracas. 32nd in the World Championship with a shot of reaching

:45:32. > :45:38.the Olympic final. From Canada, Tory Nyhaug, the Pan-American games

:45:39. > :45:44.gold-medallist. Tory Nyhaug was impressive in the quarterfinals.

:45:45. > :45:49.United States represented in this half of the draw by Connor Fields,

:45:50. > :45:53.former winner of the season of the World Cup competition. He won his

:45:54. > :45:59.quarter and semi in London four years ago but ended up seventh in

:46:00. > :46:00.the Olympic final. This is Gonzalo Molina, the Pan-American champion,

:46:01. > :46:22.from Argentina. Van Gendt from the Netherlands,

:46:23. > :46:29.fifth in London four years ago. Some will be from Australia looking to go

:46:30. > :46:32.one better than in London 2012 when he finished with a silver medal. --

:46:33. > :46:50.Sam Willoughby. There is quiet around the BMX track

:46:51. > :46:58.here. The first run-in the second heat of the Riders ready.

:46:59. > :47:04.Willoughby has looked great so far. Can he dominate? So has Connor

:47:05. > :47:10.fields who is level with him from the United States. Coming through on

:47:11. > :47:14.the inside is Van Gendt. Around they go, still leading the way for

:47:15. > :47:18.Australia is Willoughby. Connor fields are still very much on his

:47:19. > :47:23.tail. A good move by the New Zealander Trent Jones, almost taking

:47:24. > :47:36.him up into third place. Challenging Van Gendt very hard. Kimmann in

:47:37. > :47:43.third place. There is a crash, the Venezuelan has gone down. Jefferson

:47:44. > :47:47.Milano ended up planted into the ground going into that final turn.

:47:48. > :47:53.An impressive rate. Willoughby looked to be in control. He didn't

:47:54. > :47:58.have enough momentum to make it stick, Trent Jones, but a fantastic

:47:59. > :48:02.ride from Willoughby at the front. Looking very short, very calm and

:48:03. > :48:07.very composed. So far we've got what we were hoping for. Fast, tight

:48:08. > :48:15.racing. The ability as athletes is coming through. I think it just

:48:16. > :48:20.shows most of the problems we were seen yesterday were down to the

:48:21. > :48:25.problems due to the wind. Today we had a little crash, but none of the

:48:26. > :48:32.carnage that we saw yesterday. Here it is once again as they hurtled

:48:33. > :48:38.into that first term. Willoughby able to hold that line in first

:48:39. > :48:42.place and lead them round. You see the benefit of the inside line. But

:48:43. > :48:46.often you can lose that benefit if you don't carry the momentum through

:48:47. > :48:49.here. You can see how tightly packed they are in the second straight

:48:50. > :48:55.leading up to the big set of doubles. Here comes Jefferson

:48:56. > :49:00.Milano. He's over the line, to see. He will be back up and raring to go

:49:01. > :49:04.in around 20 minutes, I'm sure. He has a lot of work to do. You can

:49:05. > :49:09.still qualify. He just loses control in the take-off going into the final

:49:10. > :49:13.corner. When you land on a green painted part of the track, it is

:49:14. > :49:18.tarmac. It is rock hard. If you hit it, you will feel it. For anyone

:49:19. > :49:22.who's not aware of what they're racing on, there is no give in this

:49:23. > :49:27.surface at any point. It is basically like landing on tarmac.

:49:28. > :49:32.It's got a nonslip grippy surface which makes it even worse because

:49:33. > :49:36.you don't live, you just come to a complete stop. A big impact when you

:49:37. > :49:40.land on the green stuff. Confirmation of the result from the

:49:41. > :49:44.first run. Two more runs from these riders and in the other half of the

:49:45. > :49:50.draw as well. A great start by Willoughby. Connor Field and Trent

:49:51. > :49:57.Jones. Kimmann, a great ride from him. We had after his crash where we

:49:58. > :50:01.saw yesterday his front wheel came off, he sustained a fracture to his

:50:02. > :50:04.ankle. I'm not sure how he's able to ride today that he is doing

:50:05. > :50:08.incredibly well to be up in a qualifying position so far. Two

:50:09. > :50:14.Colombian riders going very well. It's not all about Mariano passed on

:50:15. > :50:21.from Columbia's point of view. There is a number of top South American

:50:22. > :50:25.riders. There are North American, South American, Australasian

:50:26. > :50:31.athletes in there. It is a global sport. The Colombians in fine

:50:32. > :50:37.spirits. The crowd had to make quite a trip out of town to come up here.

:50:38. > :50:41.They had to be fully committed. In the background there, the Belgian

:50:42. > :50:45.rider on the turbo trainer. Just trying to aid the recovery process.

:50:46. > :50:49.As you were saying earlier it is a short turnaround to get back onto

:50:50. > :50:52.the start. You need to allow yourself every opportunity to be in

:50:53. > :50:59.the best possible shape for the second heat. Hopefully the second

:51:00. > :51:02.run-in the women's semifinals would be too far away. Two good races to

:51:03. > :51:09.kick things off here in the sunshine. But it is interesting that

:51:10. > :51:12.the wind changes minute by minute. It's incredible. For the first heat

:51:13. > :51:19.of the men it was almost a direct headwind. It became a crosswind, 90

:51:20. > :51:23.degrees across. If there is a crosswind, it is not too bad because

:51:24. > :51:28.they have a grandstand. Coming from the opposite direction that are some

:51:29. > :51:31.real issues. Some people have been asking questions about when the

:51:32. > :51:36.riders are going through the air they turn the handlebars and whether

:51:37. > :51:40.they are trying to get competitive advantage by doing that, but it is

:51:41. > :51:44.basically a balance issue. If they're taking off and they feel as

:51:45. > :51:47.if the bike is wandering from right to left, it is a means to manipulate

:51:48. > :51:51.the bike to land in the position they want to to maintain that

:51:52. > :51:56.momentum. Ideally you want to land at the same momentum as the

:51:57. > :52:00.downslope and pedal as quickly as you can. Every split second that you

:52:01. > :52:07.are not pedalling, you are losing time. It seems as if with the

:52:08. > :52:14.weather conditions less severe than yesterday that it is helping the

:52:15. > :52:18.riders no end. It was so unfortunate, not just for Liam

:52:19. > :52:23.Phillips, but also we lost in be World Champion yesterday. He was

:52:24. > :52:25.forced out after a very heavy crash. The defending Olympic champion

:52:26. > :52:30.finished heavily into Liam Phillips in that first right and actually he

:52:31. > :52:36.was very close to going through. That crash cost him, too. You want

:52:37. > :52:39.the best people in the final, surely? You want to see the best

:52:40. > :52:42.athletes performing. Fair enough if they lose because they weren't good

:52:43. > :52:51.enough for quick enough but there is a lot of bad luck around yesterday.

:52:52. > :52:58.So, the riders at the moment are having a very brief break to rest

:52:59. > :53:02.and recuperate. It gives the crowd a chance to put some sun cream and to

:53:03. > :53:08.protect themselves from what is a very hot day here, as you can see.

:53:09. > :53:13.Before long those female athletes, there is the World Champion from

:53:14. > :53:19.last year, Stefanie Hernandez. If she could actually win she would

:53:20. > :53:25.become the first female Olympian from Venice whaler ever to win a

:53:26. > :53:31.gold medal. No pressure there, then. -- from Venice whaler. We will be

:53:32. > :53:39.back here shortly. Just for the moment, back to you, Ore.

:53:40. > :53:43.We will be back in a few moments time. Before we do, let's look ahead

:53:44. > :53:47.to this evening. Great Britain have some great shouts in the boxing.

:53:48. > :53:52.Nicola Adams is going in her gold medal fight. In the superheavyweight

:53:53. > :53:58.category, Great Britain have some fantastic pedigree. What on earth

:53:59. > :54:05.are you up to? I don't know, but I like it. He can stay there, if he

:54:06. > :54:07.wants. Back to 2012, heavyweight and superheavyweight category, Anthony

:54:08. > :54:12.Joshua came away with an incredible gold medal. I wonder what happened

:54:13. > :54:14.to him after that? Back in 2016 right here, a great chance for the

:54:15. > :54:28.European Games champion, Joe Joyce. Joe, we are where it all began for

:54:29. > :54:32.you. The amateur boxing club. How does it feel when you are in here?

:54:33. > :54:38.It feels like home, back where I feel comfortable and where it all

:54:39. > :54:43.began. How did it'll begin for you? I was 22, turning 23. I knew there

:54:44. > :54:48.was a boxing gym round here and I wanted to go and hit a bag and maybe

:54:49. > :54:54.do since barring. They got me to come to the boxing session. -- some

:54:55. > :55:02.sparring. I was enjoying myself and I got my first belt. You get in the

:55:03. > :55:05.ring and the referee comes over. He checks you have gloves and a

:55:06. > :55:10.gumshield, then he brings you both together to look at your opponent.

:55:11. > :55:19.You look at your corner and then, Ding! And it's like, what have you

:55:20. > :55:24.got? Read and believe, come on! He is a lovely kid, a gentle giant. He

:55:25. > :55:28.looks menacing but he's not at all. He's easy to work with which is

:55:29. > :55:31.important. You can have the best kids in the world but if they won't

:55:32. > :55:38.listen and work with you then you'll never get anywhere. Part of the

:55:39. > :55:42.reason why you started boxing at 22, which some people might say is quite

:55:43. > :55:50.old to start, is because you used to do work being, athletics, karate.

:55:51. > :55:57.Kick boxing, kung fu. There is loads. Swimming, diving. It's an

:55:58. > :56:02.amazing CV of different sports that you've done. Now you have found one

:56:03. > :56:05.of binary stock. Yes, and it got to a point where I was doing other

:56:06. > :56:10.sports that I would get bored and move on. I think that it's good that

:56:11. > :56:15.I have found boxing so late because it made -- because maybe if I had

:56:16. > :56:16.started earlier I would have got bored and moved on to something

:56:17. > :56:32.else. It's good. Thanks for letting us come and have

:56:33. > :56:36.a look around. We are here to talk about some of this stuff that you do

:56:37. > :56:44.outside of boxing. You're handy with a paintbrush. I am. I've always been

:56:45. > :56:50.good at art at school and that. From then on I went to Middlesex to do a

:56:51. > :56:56.bachelor of arts in fine art. I also got to do an exchange in Sacramento

:56:57. > :57:01.State University, my last year. I picked up a lot more skills along

:57:02. > :57:05.the way. Many strings to my bow. You name it, I've done it. I did

:57:06. > :57:09.cheerleading in the states at university. I reckon you were one of

:57:10. > :57:15.the guys that through the people in the air, rather than the guy being

:57:16. > :57:18.thrown in the air. You pick the Gallup, throw them, catch them by

:57:19. > :57:26.their feet and then you can do other moves. -- you pick the girl up. You

:57:27. > :57:30.have to be really strong. Even now qualified for Rio. You will be at

:57:31. > :57:36.the Olympic Games. How does that feel? It's great. You set targets

:57:37. > :57:41.and this is one of my targets on a long time ago when I was doing

:57:42. > :57:51.athletics. I wanted to get to the Olympics. How much do you want the

:57:52. > :57:54.gold? He has beaten 90% of the guys there. As long as he performs at his

:57:55. > :57:58.best and delivers on the day then there is no reason why Joe Joyce

:57:59. > :58:04.can't deliver. You've experimented with loads of different sports, to

:58:05. > :58:10.paint a new box. No wonder on the back of your top it says "No

:58:11. > :58:14.ordinary Joe." Yes, because I'm quite extraordinary. My head is

:58:15. > :58:18.getting heavy because I do all of these neck exercises! It will only

:58:19. > :58:24.get heavier with a gold medal around your neck.

:58:25. > :58:28.Joe Joyce talking to radio one Xtra. He is guaranteed a medal, he is in

:58:29. > :58:32.the semifinal this evening but he will not go home happy unless he

:58:33. > :58:37.gets the gold. You can see that semifinal this evening in about an

:58:38. > :58:42.hour and a half's time to see Joe Joyce in the superheavyweight

:58:43. > :58:47.category at 7:15pm. Stay tuned. We are winding down to the end of Rio

:58:48. > :58:51.2016. There is only a couple more days here, which is quite sad. But

:58:52. > :58:55.on the flip side we can look forward to what will be a spectacular

:58:56. > :58:59.closing ceremony. We have been presented with a surprised by the

:59:00. > :59:07.Team GB collective. If you just want to them this, a little bag of

:59:08. > :59:13.goodies by Team GB who have offered us some of their closing ceremony

:59:14. > :59:19.garments. We've got a bit of time. I'll tell you what, let's put it on.

:59:20. > :59:20.Let's demonstrate it properly. Do you mind holding on to the

:59:21. > :59:45.microphone? The outfit is not quite finished!

:59:46. > :59:48.These shoes, I'm not sure who on earth they were designed for, but

:59:49. > :59:56.they're like boats will stop look at the size of that! It's going to go

:59:57. > :00:01.to someone. But I will tell you what, I'm going to continue putting

:00:02. > :00:05.this outfit on while we go back to the serious business of the BMX

:00:06. > :00:10.semifinals. Oh, my goodness, look at that. That is quite serious. Clown

:00:11. > :00:14.feet available here in the video Olympic Park. If you haven't

:00:15. > :00:19.noticed, they didn't get my thighs with the jacket either. -- Rio

:00:20. > :00:21.Olympic Park. BMX time. We saw the first rung of the semifinal, now it

:00:22. > :00:32.is time for the second. COMMENTATOR: We're at the pointy end

:00:33. > :00:35.of the competition and we will reach that today because we will have the

:00:36. > :00:39.final for the men and women, the women's semifinal, second monetary

:00:40. > :00:43.will be next onto the track and the good news so far is that if you have

:00:44. > :00:47.just joined the coverage, Chris, is that basically, we saw BMX racing

:00:48. > :00:52.its best in the first semifinal runs in the women and men. Exactly,

:00:53. > :00:56.closely packed racing, a demonstration of power and skill,

:00:57. > :00:59.the judgment of the athletes, not affected by the horrendous wind we

:01:00. > :01:03.saw yesterday which caused so many crashes. It is a shame for the sport

:01:04. > :01:07.on this level, this opportunity to be broadcast around the world, it

:01:08. > :01:12.looked like a demolition derby yesterday threw no-fault of the

:01:13. > :01:16.riders. What about this semifinal? This half of the draw, Mariana

:01:17. > :01:21.Pajon, the world champion from Colombia, so many supporters of hers

:01:22. > :01:25.in the crowd. How impressive was she in the first run? Very impressive,

:01:26. > :01:30.did not look under pressure at all, nice and composed and relaxed, no

:01:31. > :01:34.mistakes. She just seems to have a bit of extra power. She has the

:01:35. > :01:37.confidence with the extra speed to take the bigger jumps, jumped the

:01:38. > :01:42.first set of triples which in the second heat, one other rider did but

:01:43. > :01:47.all the men are going manual through that. You can see where she is

:01:48. > :01:50.getting the advantage. Still a lot can happen, although she won the

:01:51. > :01:53.first heat, stranger things have happened so she has to stay focused

:01:54. > :01:58.in order to qualify through to the final. Viewers may be wondering why

:01:59. > :02:02.the riders line up in certain positions up at the start's gate.

:02:03. > :02:07.Who goes where and how is it determined and what benefit is a

:02:08. > :02:11.certain spot to any given athlete? You have the seeding round, the

:02:12. > :02:15.qualification round, to allow you to have the first pick of the start

:02:16. > :02:18.gate position. In this situation and in most situations, you want to be

:02:19. > :02:22.in lane one on the inside because it will be neck and neck going to the

:02:23. > :02:25.first jump and the first corner. If you are on the inside, you get the

:02:26. > :02:30.advantage. Does it set you up for the rest of the race? If you go

:02:31. > :02:40.through turn one in first place, are use that fair? To get to the first

:02:41. > :02:43.corner first is the whole shot, and that is the thing that everyone is

:02:44. > :02:46.going for, all eight riders, trying to get in command and control. So

:02:47. > :02:49.you are not at the mercy of those next EU or behind you falling off,

:02:50. > :02:52.you can take a clear run at the track and that is the position you

:02:53. > :02:54.want to be in. BMX is where it started for you as well as remark

:02:55. > :02:57.like coming home to your roots? Yes, I raced for seven years, fantastic

:02:58. > :03:00.sport to get into from grassroots all the way to elite level, there is

:03:01. > :03:12.something everyone. I miss it although it has changed huge amount

:03:13. > :03:14.since I stopped in the early tracks are bigger, faster, more jumps. It

:03:15. > :03:17.is an amazing spectacle to watch but I missed it but I don't know if I

:03:18. > :03:20.quite fancy getting out there now! The decisions that you made in terms

:03:21. > :03:26.of your sporting career, it worked out pretty well, didn't it? Have you

:03:27. > :03:30.ever thought maybe you might have stuck with BMX? I stopped when I was

:03:31. > :03:34.about 15 and I started mountain biking and then tried road racing

:03:35. > :03:38.and eventually track. If there had been the opportunity to continue to

:03:39. > :03:44.Olympic level, who knows? But I can't complain really, can I? It's

:03:45. > :03:48.not been too bad! Here we go, they are lining up for the second run-in

:03:49. > :03:54.the semifinals, there's Maria Diaz from Argentina, such an experienced

:03:55. > :04:00.rider. In her mid-30s now, you don't often see BMX riders in races like

:04:01. > :04:05.this at that kind of age. In terms of men or women, actually. Amanda

:04:06. > :04:14.Carr, used to race for the USA and now racing for Thailand. Merle van

:04:15. > :04:18.Benthem from the Netherlands, the 2010 world Julia -- junior champion.

:04:19. > :04:23.Manon Valentino from France, third in May in the World Cup race, the

:04:24. > :04:27.last big meeting other than the World Championships. Simone

:04:28. > :04:34.Christensen from Denmark, the World Championship bronze medallist.

:04:35. > :04:41.Fourth in that first run. And from the US in this half of the draw,

:04:42. > :04:49.Alise Post, solid start to the semifinal series from her. Stefany

:04:50. > :04:53.Hernandez, the world champion from the past two years next to each

:04:54. > :04:54.other on the starters gate, Hernandez right next to Mariana

:04:55. > :05:04.Pajon. Coped with the pressure so well on

:05:05. > :05:09.her home track in the World Championship. Yes, there was a huge

:05:10. > :05:22.amount of expectation and she dealt with it admirably. They are up and

:05:23. > :05:26.ready. Riders ready, watch the gate. Away they go in the second run. Who

:05:27. > :05:32.is going to be first into the turn one? Alise Post has made a great

:05:33. > :05:36.start, maybe just meeting ahead of Mariana Pajon but she turns on the

:05:37. > :05:40.inside, just ahead of the American, and Hernandez is in third,

:05:41. > :05:43.Kristensen of Denmark putting her under real pressure and Mariana

:05:44. > :05:49.Pajon under more pressure in the second ride than she was in the

:05:50. > :05:52.first. Through the rhythm section they go, chasing very hard is Alise

:05:53. > :05:58.Post from the US and there's a crash and Hernandez has gone down, Simone

:05:59. > :06:01.Christensen is down, Dutch rider is down and Mariana Pajon crosses the

:06:02. > :06:04.line with Alise Post and Manon Valentino from France in third place

:06:05. > :06:08.and there's a real scrap now to get to the line and Simone Christensen

:06:09. > :06:14.of Denmark will rollover in sixth place and chasing hard but having to

:06:15. > :06:19.carry her bike because the chain has come off was Hernandez of Venezuela,

:06:20. > :06:25.last year's world champion. Real drama on the last corner, and from

:06:26. > :06:30.the Netherlands, Merle van Benthem, unfortunately, so far, unable to get

:06:31. > :06:33.back up onto her feet. But hopefully she will. Hopefully at some point in

:06:34. > :06:40.the next minute or two, she will be able to roll across the line. A

:06:41. > :06:43.big-name fallout. What drama. It was the rate at which Hernandez try to

:06:44. > :06:47.take the final corner, whipping the bike around and it lost traction,

:06:48. > :06:51.the back wheel came off the ground. We will see the replay in a second,

:06:52. > :06:54.I'm sure. It was a risky move and she did not need to do it. It's the

:06:55. > :06:59.semifinal, you only need to make the top four and she was making a move

:07:00. > :07:08.up the inside, too sharp a line, to acute angle and she paid the price.

:07:09. > :07:12.Merle van Benthem is OK which is great to see and I'm sure we will

:07:13. > :07:16.see her in the third and final ride in the semifinal but clearly shaken

:07:17. > :07:20.by that fall. But let's look back at the race. Alise Post with a

:07:21. > :07:23.fantastic start, within the lead but as you can see, the inside line is

:07:24. > :07:26.the advantage and Mariana Pajon takes the lead. She never really

:07:27. > :07:30.looked in control of this race, Alise Post pushing her the whole

:07:31. > :07:34.way. You can see the back-end of Hernandez, she tried to turn to fast

:07:35. > :07:39.and back-end came off and took out another rider. That was the risk,

:07:40. > :07:42.she knew it was a risky move. It was Simone Christensen who went down

:07:43. > :07:48.first and then the Dutch rider at the back, Merle van Benthem, arrived

:07:49. > :07:50.a couple of seconds later. At the back-end, she took Simone

:07:51. > :07:54.Christensen with her, causing carnage. The reason they jumped back

:07:55. > :07:57.on the bike as quickly as possible is that every single point bounce

:07:58. > :08:01.for qualifications of although you have crashed, you can still get

:08:02. > :08:04.through to the final. So the first thing is, which one is mine and then

:08:05. > :08:11.grab it and try to race to the finish! Yes. So much at stake,

:08:12. > :08:15.riders will always take a chance. This is the Olympics draw, the one

:08:16. > :08:22.they all want to win. It puts a huge amount of pressure on them. Is a

:08:23. > :08:28.Mariana Pajon leading the way. And coping well with the pressure. --

:08:29. > :08:33.so, Mariana Pajon. She always does that when she goes for versions of

:08:34. > :08:37.the world title, she has lifted three versions of it. The second

:08:38. > :08:43.semifinal line-up, they are up and ready to go, Nadja Pries from

:08:44. > :08:48.Germany. Seventh after that first run-in the first -- and the first of

:08:49. > :08:52.the Australian riders, Lauren Reynolds. They have the outside line

:08:53. > :08:57.into the first corner, based on the result from the first ride. Elke

:08:58. > :09:06.Vanhoof of Belgium top ten in all three Supercross races so far this

:09:07. > :09:13.year. Priscilla Carnaval from Brazil. Coached by her older

:09:14. > :09:17.brother, Douglas. Supported by a good many people inside the BMX

:09:18. > :09:27.track here. Yaroslava Bondarenko of Russia. Next to the rider from

:09:28. > :09:35.Moscow, Laura Smulders. She won the bronze in London at the last Olympic

:09:36. > :09:42.Games. Brooke Crain from the USA with a top three finish in the first

:09:43. > :09:50.ride. Number 68, Caroline Buchanan from Canberra in Australia.

:09:51. > :10:10.This is the second race. The second of the semifinals. A hush at the

:10:11. > :10:13.track. Riders ready. Watch the gate. Buchanan, who was the best rider in

:10:14. > :10:17.the field in the first semifinal has made a good start and two have gone

:10:18. > :10:22.down! One of the Australians has gone down. Lauren Reynolds is on the

:10:23. > :10:25.deck and so is the Brazilian rider, who did not even make it into the

:10:26. > :10:31.first turn, and leading the way, Brooke Crain from the USA, and Laura

:10:32. > :10:35.Smulders in second place. Around turn two, Buchanan back in fourth at

:10:36. > :10:39.the moment, Brooke Crain riding really well, Laura Smulders in

:10:40. > :10:42.second place. Chasing hard, wandering though for Russia in

:10:43. > :10:47.third, that will be a turn up if she can make it. -- chasing hard,

:10:48. > :10:51.Yaroslava Bondarenko. Laura Smulders takes it from Brooke Crain and

:10:52. > :10:56.Yaroslava Bondarenko is in third and Buchanan, the first rider in the

:10:57. > :11:00.first run, finishes fourth, now Du Preez this, Elke Vanhoof sixth and

:11:01. > :11:04.the last two, Lauren Reynolds leading home Priscilla Carnaval of

:11:05. > :11:08.Brazil. What drama. They barely got out of the starting gate. They could

:11:09. > :11:12.not have been racing for more than about four microseconds when a goal.

:11:13. > :11:15.That's probably the worst placed a ball at that kind of speed, big

:11:16. > :11:21.impact when they hit the deck, great to see them both back on their bikes

:11:22. > :11:26.and finishing the track. Another dramatic semifinal run for those

:11:27. > :11:34.two. Those two groups of riders and a few running repairs. Actually just

:11:35. > :11:37.lifting the saddle at the end! Those saddles are so low for the racing

:11:38. > :11:39.because you don't want it to getting away when you're manoeuvring the

:11:40. > :11:44.bike midair so they put it right back up to ride away. Starting

:11:45. > :11:48.again, left of centre, there. That will be Australian that knocked the

:11:49. > :11:52.Brazilian midair and you have nothing to do. -- was the

:11:53. > :11:55.Australian. You can't do anything, you're trying to manipulate the bike

:11:56. > :11:58.but if you get a side impact like that, the Brazilian is already

:11:59. > :12:04.completely horizontal before she hit the deck. Total wipe-out by the pair

:12:05. > :12:08.of them. From the starting gate they are trying to get across the track,

:12:09. > :12:11.to get to the inside as close as possible which caused the crash.

:12:12. > :12:14.Beattie fall as were having their own race behind, some distance

:12:15. > :12:20.further back on the track. But the good news is, she seems to be OK.

:12:21. > :12:24.But that was a nasty fall. Yeah, high-speed, high impact, great to

:12:25. > :12:29.see them bouncing back and getting back on the bike to finish the race.

:12:30. > :12:34.Laura Smulders from the Netherlands was first over the line ahead of

:12:35. > :12:37.Brooke Crain and Buchanan... That is the standings, Laura Smulders,

:12:38. > :12:42.Brooke Crain, Caroline Buchanan and Yaroslava Bondarenko into fourth

:12:43. > :12:46.place. It is an aggregate of all three rides, the top four progress,

:12:47. > :12:49.they don't need to do anything particularly special. The medals are

:12:50. > :12:54.only won on a single ride in the final which will be after this third

:12:55. > :13:02.heat of the semifinals. A bit of mopping up to do. Scratches and

:13:03. > :13:06.scrapes, not surprised. You can see the impact the bikes make when they

:13:07. > :13:11.hit the deck, gouging holes in the track. Not quite such an issue as in

:13:12. > :13:13.the velodrome. In the velodrome from you get massive splinters that they

:13:14. > :13:16.have to repair the track otherwise if you crashed on the same part

:13:17. > :13:22.again and slid over them, you could have a nasty injury. Moving onto the

:13:23. > :13:28.men's semifinal, second run, the first of the semifinals, this is the

:13:29. > :13:31.one featuring Anthony Dean of Australia, who was the fastest in

:13:32. > :13:36.that first run ahead of Jelle van Gorkom of the Netherlands. The

:13:37. > :13:40.riders taking their places. The wind is getting up a bit and it is a

:13:41. > :13:45.crosswind from right to left down to the first corner. The flags are

:13:46. > :13:49.really flattering quite stiffly. It keeps on changing, doesn't it? You

:13:50. > :13:52.think it has calmed down and then it picks up with the direction changes.

:13:53. > :13:57.It affects the lighter riders more. They don't have the same inertia.

:13:58. > :14:03.Midair, if you only weighed 50-60 KG, you get blown all over the

:14:04. > :14:07.place. A lot of the bigger guys, 95 kilograms potentially, can deal with

:14:08. > :14:11.it better. David Graf from Switzerland fell in two of the

:14:12. > :14:15.3/4-final rides but still made it to the semifinal. Corben Sharrah from

:14:16. > :14:24.the USA, from Tucson, Arizona, 24 years old. Next to him, Nick Long,

:14:25. > :14:29.bronze medallist in the world and the Pan American Games last year. A

:14:30. > :14:38.Colombian duo certainly worth keeping an eye on, Carlos Ramirez,

:14:39. > :14:46.the World Championship analyst and Carlos Oquendo, an Olympic medallist

:14:47. > :14:56.from four years ago. -- World Championship medallist. Jelle van

:14:57. > :15:05.Gorkom from the Netherlands, from an M. And Anthony Dean. He looks to be

:15:06. > :15:16.in the form of his life. Yeah, he's had a great run so far.

:15:17. > :15:32.Riders ready. Watch the gate. The second race of the semifinal and

:15:33. > :15:36.away they go. Good start by Corben Sharrah but then racing through on

:15:37. > :15:41.the inside, the Australian, Anthony Dean, who leads them around the

:15:42. > :15:44.first corner. Chased hard by Corben Sharrah, and one of the Colombian

:15:45. > :15:51.riders up into third. Jelle van Gorkom in fourth. Around turn two,

:15:52. > :15:55.Anthony Dean still with time, not too much pressure coming on him and

:15:56. > :15:59.-- Ramirez from Colombia pushing hard, up in second place at the

:16:00. > :16:04.moment, Corben Sharrah holding second, Dean leading the way, Corben

:16:05. > :16:10.Sharrah in second place, Ramirez in third and Oquendo straight for the

:16:11. > :16:14.line with Nick Long. BMX at its best, amazing skills Tom at top

:16:15. > :16:21.speed, amazing. Really good race from start to finish. The Colombian

:16:22. > :16:24.riders challenging and consistent in every ride, not quite able to put

:16:25. > :16:25.themselves at the front of the field but always around third or fourth in

:16:26. > :16:38.any race they are in. You see the benefit of being

:16:39. > :16:43.therefore Anthony Dean, here they are, yes, just that Le Mans makes

:16:44. > :16:46.all the difference. He was in control from turn onwards -- just

:16:47. > :16:51.that lane one makes all the difference. You can see with Nick

:16:52. > :16:54.Long, he hooked up his back wheel little bit in the back straight

:16:55. > :17:02.before the big set of double thunder that killed his momentum, and he

:17:03. > :17:06.went backwards. Nicholas Long, the green on his helmet. Never really in

:17:07. > :17:09.contention in the second run. The riders try to gain every last

:17:10. > :17:17.possible centimetre to potentially gain a place at the end. There's the

:17:18. > :17:22.photo finish. Anthony Dean with a little room to spare, again. Yes,

:17:23. > :17:28.very impressive. Just two points from those first two runs, having

:17:29. > :17:33.won both of them. One run to go in the semifinal, Anthony Dean leading

:17:34. > :17:37.the way, with Carlos Ramirez, the second-best rider. We move quickly

:17:38. > :17:44.on to the second semifinal, run two of this one. That will be deemed

:17:45. > :17:50.straight through, even if he comes last in the next one he has

:17:51. > :17:53.qualified for the Olympic final. The Olympic -- the Australian cycling

:17:54. > :17:57.team will be desperate to get a cycling gold medal macro from

:17:58. > :18:01.somewhere. It's been a disappointing Games for them. Let's look at the

:18:02. > :18:08.line-up. Niek Kimmann overcoming an ankle injury to remain competitive

:18:09. > :18:12.here. Fourth after that first run. Jefferson Milano, who crashed in the

:18:13. > :18:20.first race on the final corner, the final turn. From New Zealand, Trent

:18:21. > :18:33.Jones. He was actually born in Limerick, in Ireland. From

:18:34. > :18:41.Argentina, Gonzalo Molina, 29th out of the 32 in the seeding run. 12 in

:18:42. > :18:43.his home cup race earlier in the season. Twan van Gendt from the

:18:44. > :18:48.Netherlands, fifth in the Olympics four years ago. Connor Fields from

:18:49. > :19:02.the United States. Tory Nyhaug, from Canada, a world

:19:03. > :19:12.silver-medallist couple of years ago. And the man who arguably has

:19:13. > :19:15.looked the best out of all of them in the competition so far, Sam

:19:16. > :19:27.Willoughby, the two time world champion.

:19:28. > :19:40.The riders about to go upon their pedals. Riders ready, watch the

:19:41. > :19:43.gate... It on and away they go now. That mad adrenaline rush to the

:19:44. > :19:49.first corner, and Sam Willoughby takes control of it. Connor Fields

:19:50. > :19:52.is up there with him. Tory Nyhaug holding third place. Trent Jones

:19:53. > :19:58.from New Zealand trying to get into the action. It is Australia, USA,

:19:59. > :20:04.Cabella, a battle for fourth place. There a fall, Jones has gone down,

:20:05. > :20:07.from New Zealand. Sam Willoughby of Australia leading the way,

:20:08. > :20:12.second-place Connor Fields of the USA, in a thick of the action is

:20:13. > :20:19.Tory Nyhaug, they will finish one, two, three, Gonzalo Molina in fourth

:20:20. > :20:23.place ahead of Twan van Gendt of the Netherlands, who is just in front of

:20:24. > :20:27.his compatriot at the end of that race, Niek Kimmann, but a very heavy

:20:28. > :20:31.fall, Jefferson Milano has fallen for the second time, both runs he

:20:32. > :20:36.has fallen. That was a big impact there for the Kiwi rider, Trent

:20:37. > :20:40.Jones. Good to see him back on the bike and he will finish. I'm

:20:41. > :20:44.surprised Jones was able to get back on his bike as quickly as he did.

:20:45. > :20:48.That was a big impact. You can see his shirt is torn, there is blood

:20:49. > :20:52.coming out of his right arm there. He will be feeling that. Again, Sam

:20:53. > :20:59.Willoughby, what a masterclass at the front end of the race. A very

:21:00. > :21:02.quick time. 34.4. Connor Fields not far behind him. It was a shame to

:21:03. > :21:07.see that crashed going into turn two. A puncture as well, the least

:21:08. > :21:12.of his problems. Here's the race once again. Sam Willoughby opens a

:21:13. > :21:20.believed immediately. Nick Kemen started well. -- Niek Kimmann

:21:21. > :21:24.started well. You see them controlling their bikes, trying to

:21:25. > :21:30.get every bit of momentum they can. Here is the crash. He landed

:21:31. > :21:34.straight onto his head and hit very hard, amazing to see him bounce

:21:35. > :21:41.straight back up. His Olympics could have been over there, in an instant.

:21:42. > :21:44.Used either skid. Ploughed into by Jefferson Milano, who could do

:21:45. > :21:51.nothing about it. Yes, that wasn't his fault. That will sting a bit.

:21:52. > :21:55.It's hard to explain what it's like to land on the deck, particularly on

:21:56. > :22:00.the tarmac, the Green part of the track, there is no give at all. It

:22:01. > :22:06.looks nicely painted, it almost looks friendly, doesn't it! Its

:22:07. > :22:11.rock-hard. Australia are faring very well in the BMX so far. Anthony Dean

:22:12. > :22:15.and Sam Willoughby going extremely well. Yes, that's them both

:22:16. > :22:20.qualified regardless of the third heat. There's the standings after

:22:21. > :22:28.race two in the sermons -- in the second semifinal. Sam Willoughby

:22:29. > :22:33.qualifies, Connor Fields, Tory Nyhaug, Trent Jones is done in the

:22:34. > :22:37.running, as is Gonzalo Molina, all to play for in the third and final

:22:38. > :22:42.run. They will all be coming up in just a few minutes.

:22:43. > :22:45.ORE ODUBA: It can be brutal, BMX, it gives is

:22:46. > :22:49.incredible scenery as we see the riders going over all the bumps and

:22:50. > :22:53.humps, but it can be brutal, but really good to see the riders

:22:54. > :22:56.getting back up and being OK. We are going to change sports now because

:22:57. > :23:01.we are going back to the BMX and the final runs the semifinal, but we are

:23:02. > :23:07.counting to Joe Joyce's semifinal in the superheavyweight category of the

:23:08. > :23:10.foxing. He's in the semifinal against Ivan Dychko of Kazakhstan.

:23:11. > :23:16.John Inverdale is ringside. He has a lot to live up to in this category,

:23:17. > :23:20.hasn't he? He does, talking about lots and size, there are a couple of

:23:21. > :23:23.guys who are in the flyweight, 52 kilograms, and what we're talking

:23:24. > :23:27.about was Joe Joyce is people twice that size in that direction and

:23:28. > :23:32.twice that size in that direction, and of course twice amount of

:23:33. > :23:35.weight, getting onto 90 odd kgs and Anthony Joshua fits into that

:23:36. > :23:41.category. Big guys this afternoon. For Joe, this is a wonderful

:23:42. > :23:45.opportunity, isn't it? Yes, he's come from a grassroots club in

:23:46. > :23:49.London, built his way up to become the best in Great Britain and now

:23:50. > :23:53.he's in the Olympics 2016, it's his time to shine. I believe in him and

:23:54. > :23:59.he's got a great platform to do it on. I have an proud of him and I

:24:00. > :24:04.hope he does well. Use bar with him a lot, tell as his strengths and

:24:05. > :24:07.flaws? Not many flaws. He had flaws at the beginning because he was

:24:08. > :24:12.learning and he has ironed them out, managed to become one of the best in

:24:13. > :24:17.the world are based around his coaches come mother support team. He

:24:18. > :24:23.has a great engine. He does couple wearer, he can backflip, he's an

:24:24. > :24:28.artist, his mind works in a way that not many people's does, he is

:24:29. > :24:33.adaptable. His attitude towards hard work is phenomenal. I haven't seen

:24:34. > :24:35.many people who can work extremely hard, he carries the same attitude

:24:36. > :24:36.the lighter weights do to the heavyweight.

:24:37. > :24:42.hard, he carries the same attitude the lighter weights do to the

:24:43. > :24:45.heavyweight. Yellow bobbing his style is relentless, go forward like

:24:46. > :24:50.a steam train. Most definitely, he is not one of those guys who will

:24:51. > :24:55.practice 1000 punches and the master of none, he is relentless. If we are

:24:56. > :24:59.going to call it one-dimensional, he has got it down to a tee and that

:25:00. > :25:04.has got him right the way through the Olympics. All credit to that

:25:05. > :25:09.style, it's nonstop. You go in with a game plan feeling you can break

:25:10. > :25:15.Joe down, one, two, three jabs and you start questioning yourself. Why

:25:16. > :25:19.have -- we have nine fights today, the grand finale on Sunday when we

:25:20. > :25:24.hope Joe Joyce is going to be involved. Nicola Adams' final

:25:25. > :25:28.tomorrow about this time on BBC One. If you are fighting against Joe

:25:29. > :25:33.Joyce, what do you do? Do you have to move? Yes, 100%, there is two

:25:34. > :25:39.styles, either you are the aggressor and take him on or you can be clever

:25:40. > :25:43.and say you know what, there's a jab, snip, snip, role, body kit,

:25:44. > :25:52.then a proper jab, so it's how you deal with Joe, I will say tell the

:25:53. > :25:55.person dance, just like the cube and the other day, unbelievable

:25:56. > :26:02.footwork, I want to see phenomenal footwork against Joe, then worry

:26:03. > :26:06.about that punches after. Are you confident for Joe? I will not talk

:26:07. > :26:10.in riddles, I believe he can capture a gold medal. Lets hope you are

:26:11. > :26:20.right, you can see it live on BBC One in about half an hour's time.

:26:21. > :26:25.John, Anthony, thank you very much, that semifinal to come very, very

:26:26. > :26:32.soon. Now then, as you can see, quite a few people making their way

:26:33. > :26:36.around here. He's a very happy gent and a lady, it's also the

:26:37. > :26:41.thoroughfare here. If I get run over by a golf cart you will know why I

:26:42. > :26:43.went. We are going to talk about one of Brazil's great hopes and each

:26:44. > :26:47.volleyball because they had both women and the men, the world number

:26:48. > :26:54.one As going into this, unfortunately a couple of days ago

:26:55. > :26:59.it wasn't gold for the women, what could the men do? It was a different

:27:00. > :27:02.result last night. COMMENTATOR:

:27:03. > :27:06.Brazil against Italy as the gold medal match and will the home fans

:27:07. > :27:14.be able to cheer the gold medal they so crave?

:27:15. > :27:31.We will have some of this. That's the power from Lupo. The crowd

:27:32. > :27:38.enjoyed that one, the first block of the match. He rolls it into the

:27:39. > :27:49.corner and Brazil have come from 1-5 down, to 9-8 up. It's been hit and

:27:50. > :27:56.it stays hit. A big point, this. First set point, Brazil. Brazil are

:27:57. > :28:06.halfway to the gold-medal! So Brazil get this second set under way. A

:28:07. > :28:13.chance! Oh, what a point! There's an energy about the Italian power right

:28:14. > :28:20.now. Finds the mark and they are in front, they are in front for the

:28:21. > :28:24.first time in the second set. He seems to have the bit between his

:28:25. > :28:36.teeth. It's electric. On Copacabana Beach. Three match points to Brazil.

:28:37. > :28:43.We are one point away from Bedlam. This is what they wanted! This is

:28:44. > :28:46.what they came for! They have delivered gold for Brazil on

:28:47. > :28:52.Copacabana Beach in the men's beachball.

:28:53. > :28:57.ORE ODUBA: One of the most celebrated Brazilian

:28:58. > :29:01.gold medals of these games, they don't usually do rain here at Rio

:29:02. > :29:05.2016, especially not at Copacabana. But they came in their droves last

:29:06. > :29:09.night. As long as you had a pond show you were all right and I think

:29:10. > :29:16.about when asked 12,000 people crammed into that stadium under

:29:17. > :29:21.enjoyed the gold medal won by the duo. It's time to get back to the

:29:22. > :29:26.BMX semifinals and see the first two runs, what about the final run down

:29:27. > :29:29.there at the Rio radical Park? Sam Willoughby from Australia doing very

:29:30. > :29:35.well. Can he get himself into that final? Jill, you are down there. A

:29:36. > :29:40.man who would have loved to have been on that track right now. Yes,

:29:41. > :29:43.Liam Phillips has just walked in, thank you very much, Liam for

:29:44. > :29:46.popping down to see us. First of all I'm pleased to see you upon your

:29:47. > :29:53.feet after yesterday. Tell us how are feeling? Yet I feel all right,

:29:54. > :29:56.in mind and body I feel all right but a little bit heartbroken. This

:29:57. > :30:01.is my third Olympics and I didn't come here to end my race like that,

:30:02. > :30:05.I came here to win, regardless of the preparation I had with injury

:30:06. > :30:09.and stuff. I was confident that I had done enough over the last few

:30:10. > :30:12.years and I had won enough big races to come here and execute on the

:30:13. > :30:17.biggest stage in the world. To not have the opportunity to do that is,

:30:18. > :30:21.at the moment I feel a little bit numb, but it's BMX, I know I have

:30:22. > :30:25.been doing this sport ever since I was a kid and I know it is part of

:30:26. > :30:30.it, unfortunately. Can you remember anything about the crash question

:30:31. > :30:34.mark no, I haven't watched too much, I've seen a few little clips online

:30:35. > :30:39.but I remember getting a good start and leading into the first corner,

:30:40. > :30:42.and it did get close. Me and my coach spoke quite a lot about the

:30:43. > :30:46.advantage of getting into the first turn first and from there, you can

:30:47. > :30:50.control the rest of the race and then you have first lane selection

:30:51. > :30:53.for the next ride and I know from racing over the last few years that

:30:54. > :30:57.is such a big advantage. When you are raising at the Olympics, you

:30:58. > :31:00.can't back off and I wouldn't do anything different now. The way in

:31:01. > :31:03.which the first corner shaped, if I was to have backed off then riders

:31:04. > :31:08.would have come underneath me anyway. Unfortunately, this is my

:31:09. > :31:12.biggest frustration, regardless of my own result and performance, is

:31:13. > :31:17.the fact we have been here twice and I was probably the most vocal out of

:31:18. > :31:20.everybody on the world circuit and I felt like the first corner certainly

:31:21. > :31:26.needed changing and we were promised it would be and we get here and it

:31:27. > :31:29.wasn't. That is why you saw so much carnage yesterday. Ultimately we

:31:30. > :31:32.want a platform to showcase the sport we do to the world and we

:31:33. > :31:38.don't get these opportunities very often. So I just hope now when the

:31:39. > :31:41.finals come up that there are a few guys in there, the semifinals, that

:31:42. > :31:46.you wouldn't have expected but I hope we have a really deserving

:31:47. > :31:50.winner, somebody like Sam Willoughby, that has dominated the

:31:51. > :31:52.sport for the last few years. From my standpoint, I would love to see

:31:53. > :32:01.somebody like that go on and win. Because some of the guys you would

:32:02. > :32:05.have expected, like the world and Olympic champions, aren't there, you

:32:06. > :32:08.were in good company yesterday because there was a lot of crashing

:32:09. > :32:14.and the wind has played a factor as well, hasn't it? Yes and that is

:32:15. > :32:20.something that we experience on the World Cup circuit, we have days when

:32:21. > :32:23.the wind is extremely high and here, this is quite different to anything

:32:24. > :32:26.we've experienced because of the size of the grandstand on both

:32:27. > :32:30.sides, it is almost funnelling down the middle of the track. One minute

:32:31. > :32:34.you can have a headwind and the next you can have a tail wind. When you

:32:35. > :32:37.are already doing 50 kilometres per hour, your speed only needs to be a

:32:38. > :32:41.couple either way and you go from not jumping far enough or jumping

:32:42. > :32:45.way to far which has proved to be massively difficult for the riders

:32:46. > :32:50.yesterday and hopefully today has not been as bad. We are going to get

:32:51. > :32:53.back to the action and hopefully Liam will stay with us and we will

:32:54. > :32:57.hear more from him after we see the next run of the semifinals. Let's go

:32:58. > :33:02.back to Sir Chris Hoy and Simon Brotherton. COMMENTATOR: The riders

:33:03. > :33:05.are heading up the stairs, that handy little runway to roll up the

:33:06. > :33:12.bike and they will be ready for this third and final run-in the women's

:33:13. > :33:16.semifinals in the BMX. A reminder, Mariana Pajon, the world champion,

:33:17. > :33:19.who has won both of the first two runs so she is going well and

:33:20. > :33:24.looking in great shape for the final. Stefany Hernandez, last

:33:25. > :33:27.year's world champion from Venezuela is all that the moment and it could

:33:28. > :33:32.be tight for her. She needs to perform in the last race. -- is

:33:33. > :33:36.fourth. You would expect her to be in the first two or three, it was a

:33:37. > :33:39.crash in the second round would set her back but as long as you does not

:33:40. > :33:43.panic and rides a normal kind of race, she potentially won't take the

:33:44. > :33:48.kind of risks that she did in the second heat but yes, she realises

:33:49. > :33:57.she is under pressure and has to perform. Maria Diaz from Argentina,

:33:58. > :34:03.who is... Down near the bottom of the field in this semifinal. But as

:34:04. > :34:06.I mentioned before, she has so much experience. She was on the podium at

:34:07. > :34:11.the World Championships a decade ago. Number 469, the number she

:34:12. > :34:18.always ride under, which marks the date of the birth of her niece, the

:34:19. > :34:24.4th of June, 1999, 2009, I should say. That is Stefany Hernandez. Now

:34:25. > :34:35.we're moving through the field, 39, Amanda for Thailand. -- Amanda Carr.

:34:36. > :34:41.16th in the World Cup Supercross meeting in May. Going for the big

:34:42. > :34:43.build-up here, introducing the athletes each time they are up at

:34:44. > :34:51.the starting gate, Simone Christensen from Denmark, second in

:34:52. > :34:56.Manchester in the spring. World Championship bronze medallist from

:34:57. > :35:01.last year. Moving through the field, Merle van Benthem, a former world

:35:02. > :35:08.junior champion. Sixth in the World Championship final in Colombia.

:35:09. > :35:15.From France, Manon Valentino, who is actually in third place, here, with

:35:16. > :35:33.eight points after the two runs. And racing for the USA, Alise Post.

:35:34. > :35:38.The Olympic semifinalist, four years ago, can she get into the final this

:35:39. > :35:43.time? Second at the moment. And the big roar for the defending Olympic

:35:44. > :35:57.champion. She looked imperious in the first

:35:58. > :36:06.two races. A bit of a harsh around the BMX venue now. -- harsh. Riders

:36:07. > :36:11.ready. Watch the gate. Away they go, the third and final semifinal run.

:36:12. > :36:15.Leading the way, Mariana Pajon, and going with that, Alise Post, trying

:36:16. > :36:21.to put them under pressure, Simone Christensen in third place as they

:36:22. > :36:24.take the first turn, Hernandez of Venezuela down in fourth, Mariana

:36:25. > :36:28.Pajon leads and again, pressure right on her shoulder, Alise Post

:36:29. > :36:31.and Simone Christensen tries to come through and challenge for first

:36:32. > :36:35.place and Hernandez is up there as well, neck and neck behind Mariana

:36:36. > :36:40.Pajon who leads the way. She's got daylight and she will lead them over

:36:41. > :36:42.the line, much to the delight of the Colombian spectators. Hernandez is

:36:43. > :36:47.through from Venezuela, through to the final and Alise Post in third

:36:48. > :36:54.place and forth, Manon Valentino of France, who maintains her position

:36:55. > :36:58.in the top four. What a race. They were all waiting for second place.

:36:59. > :37:02.The big loser was Simone Christensen, crashing on the last

:37:03. > :37:06.corner, came down really heavily on her shoulder as well. Big

:37:07. > :37:09.disappointment for her. Mariana Pajon seem to be in control all the

:37:10. > :37:13.way through, Hernandez had a great start from the outside lane. Alise

:37:14. > :37:17.Post, for a while, I thought she might challenge but could not keep

:37:18. > :37:21.the momentum going and Mariana Pajon was pretty much untouchable the

:37:22. > :37:24.whole way through. Alise Post really put her under pressure in the first

:37:25. > :37:31.portion of the race but Mariana Pajon kept cool and kept her place

:37:32. > :37:36.at the front. Simone Christensen, there, from Denmark, gave absolutely

:37:37. > :37:41.everything. She did push it right to the limit and in the end, ended up

:37:42. > :37:44.on the deck and it ended in bitter disappointment for her. She

:37:45. > :37:49.challenged so hard for a place in that Olympic final. But on this

:37:50. > :37:54.particular occasion, it was not to be. You can see what it means to the

:37:55. > :37:58.athletes, there, the Olympic dream is over, heartbreaking. It was a

:37:59. > :38:03.good race between these two, with Mariana Pajon put under real

:38:04. > :38:08.pressure by Alise Post. Great start, inside line again, the advantage,

:38:09. > :38:12.trying to carve a slightly different line. At this point, going well for

:38:13. > :38:15.Simone Christensen in the middle in the red, challenging at the front of

:38:16. > :38:20.the race but in the final corner, there, she hit the ground. She

:38:21. > :38:24.collided with the French rider. Could not maintain her line and you

:38:25. > :38:29.can see the frustration and the realisation that she is out of the

:38:30. > :38:34.Olympic Games final. Nothing Amanda Carr could do as she ploughed into

:38:35. > :38:37.the back of the Danish rider. Relief for Hernandez when she crossed the

:38:38. > :38:46.line in second. Tears of disappointment. But not for Mariana

:38:47. > :38:51.Pajon. She is the rider to beat in this BMX today for what we have seen

:38:52. > :38:55.and no surprise in that. Absolutely, Caroline Buchanan is going to be a

:38:56. > :38:58.proper challenger, I'm sure, in the final but yeah, at the moment, it's

:38:59. > :39:05.hard to look beyond Mariana Pajon for the gold medal. She, Alise Post,

:39:06. > :39:11.Hernandez and Valentino, the riders going through from the first

:39:12. > :39:17.semifinal. He two, run three. -- heat two.

:39:18. > :39:24.That is a great angle, it gives you an idea of how high the starting

:39:25. > :39:28.gate is. It is a less terrifying view than the one you have if you

:39:29. > :39:32.are sitting where Elke Vanhoof is at the moment. I think most people who

:39:33. > :39:35.are not used BMX, they look down there and if you stand on the top by

:39:36. > :39:41.the start gate at a BMX track and you have done it before, it is

:39:42. > :39:45.exceedingly steep, terrifyingly so, actually, ten metres long but they

:39:46. > :39:48.start eight metres high off the ground. Very intimidating looking

:39:49. > :39:53.down at the start gate. But they need to get their speed up. Yes,

:39:54. > :39:57.it's to generate speed and by the time they hit the bottom of the ramp

:39:58. > :40:02.they are doing nearly 40 mph. Nadja Pries of Germany, the former world

:40:03. > :40:06.junior silver medallist and Yaroslava Bondarenko, at the moment,

:40:07. > :40:11.in one of the qualifying positions. Great performance from the Moscow

:40:12. > :40:15.19-year-old so far. Caroline Buchanan of Australia, not quite

:40:16. > :40:20.such a good ride in the second heat, which has knocked her down to third

:40:21. > :40:23.place. -- in the second run. Brooke Crain of the US going well here,

:40:24. > :40:27.fourth in the World Championship last year and got into the Olympic

:40:28. > :40:31.final in London and finished eighth, looking to get among the medals this

:40:32. > :40:34.time and riding number 110, Laura Smulders from the Netherlands, the

:40:35. > :40:47.bronze medallist from London, four years ago.

:40:48. > :41:01.Set. Ready to start. Riders ready. Watch the gate. Last chance for

:41:02. > :41:05.these riders to secure a place in the Olympic final. Laura Smulders

:41:06. > :41:08.with the inside line for the Netherlands and Elke Vanhoof Belgium

:41:09. > :41:13.has started well, as has Brooke Crain of the USA. Oh and there's a

:41:14. > :41:16.crash! Meanwhile at the front of the race, leading the way, Laura

:41:17. > :41:21.Smulders, from the Lebanon 's, chased hard by Brooke Crain -- from

:41:22. > :41:27.the Netherlands. Buchanan is chasing hard as well. Buchanan has got

:41:28. > :41:30.problems, she has crashed, I think, from Australia, so heartache for

:41:31. > :41:34.Caroline Buchanan, as they come up towards the line, and on the line,

:41:35. > :41:38.it is taken by Laura Smulders ahead of Brooke Crain of the US, Elke

:41:39. > :41:44.Vanhoof of Belgium, and Lauren Reynolds of Australia in fourth. And

:41:45. > :41:48.a disastrous moment, there, for Caroline Buchanan, the world time

:41:49. > :41:53.trial champion from Australia, there she is, and what a forlorn figure,

:41:54. > :41:58.as she slowly rolls around the track. Her Olympic dream is in

:41:59. > :42:02.tatters. It went wrong from a very early point in the race. She hit the

:42:03. > :42:07.second part of the first jump, lost momentum, went backwards, and then

:42:08. > :42:10.she basically caught the back wheel of the rider in front of her in the

:42:11. > :42:15.first turn and had nowhere to go. She was down. Big surprise, one of

:42:16. > :42:21.the real favourites exiting the Olympic Games. She will be

:42:22. > :42:24.absolutely devastated with this. Well, congratulations to Laura

:42:25. > :42:30.Smulders. She was superb, from the Netherlands. She quickly took

:42:31. > :42:33.control of the race but the real drama was at the back of the field

:42:34. > :42:37.and make no mistake, Caroline Buchanan was one of the favourites

:42:38. > :42:40.for gold. She performed superbly in the seeding runs and had looked

:42:41. > :42:44.great in all of the races so far but just got into a spot of bother, lost

:42:45. > :42:48.a few places in the second run-in the semifinal and then suddenly, it

:42:49. > :42:54.all just fell apart at the seams for her. Elke Vanhoof from Belgium going

:42:55. > :42:58.through in third place. But Buchanan will be feeling inconsolable after

:42:59. > :43:04.what happened there on that third and final run and Yaroslava

:43:05. > :43:07.Bondarenko of Russia, delighted, at 19, to make it through into the

:43:08. > :43:11.Olympic final. Here we go, Chris, let's look again, Buchanan is

:43:12. > :43:15.closest to the camera of the Australians. She clipped the second

:43:16. > :43:19.part at the top of the screen, going backwards, here. She clipped the

:43:20. > :43:24.landing on the first jump. That said her backwards and now, here, you

:43:25. > :43:29.will see, on the outside, as she turns in, just catches, there you

:43:30. > :43:33.go, the Russian's back wheel and goes down and it is all over for

:43:34. > :43:37.her. She was under real pressure, Buchanan, trying to get towards the

:43:38. > :43:42.front of the race. Here it is once more. Tried to go up the inside,

:43:43. > :43:46.nowhere to go, straight down, all over. Did she take a chance she

:43:47. > :43:49.didn't need to? She was in a position she should not have been in

:43:50. > :43:55.after the first jump, which sent her backwards and it was a last-gasp

:43:56. > :44:01.attempt, certainly risky, to try to get up the inside. But you can see

:44:02. > :44:05.the disappointment. Oh, look at the disappointment, four years of hard

:44:06. > :44:08.work. She said that the Olympic Games was a nightmare for her, she

:44:09. > :44:12.made the mistake in the final in London and ended up fifth. Great

:44:13. > :44:19.disappointment and it all ends in tears. Back down to track-side.

:44:20. > :44:22.I think the man beside me knows how she feels, so disappointing to see

:44:23. > :44:25.her come through with tears in her eyes. The Olympic dream is over but

:44:26. > :44:31.at least she got into the semifinal but she will be so disappointed. She

:44:32. > :44:35.will. Our grandparents are watching the final together so to see that is

:44:36. > :44:39.not ideal. She has had an unbelievable season up until now.

:44:40. > :44:43.Another one bites the dust, I guess, another big name in the women's now

:44:44. > :44:47.is going to be watching the final from the sidelines. From what we

:44:48. > :44:52.have seen, Mariana Pajon looks untouchable. But can she hold on to

:44:53. > :44:55.get the gold medal? I think so, for me, when I saw her win the World

:44:56. > :44:59.Championships in Colombia in front of the home crowd and deal with the

:45:00. > :45:02.pressure, I thought she was going to be, certainly favourites to win and

:45:03. > :45:06.from what we have seen today, I think she's going to be really

:45:07. > :45:10.difficult. She is so good on the bike technically. When her starts

:45:11. > :45:15.are together and she gets out front, she is almost impossible to beat.

:45:16. > :45:18.She is my pick for the final. It is such a technical sport and every

:45:19. > :45:24.second counts, making tiny adjustment all the time. One tiny

:45:25. > :45:27.mistake and it's all over. Unfortunately, yes and when I speak

:45:28. > :45:31.to other athlete in the village, they are like, "How can you train

:45:32. > :45:37.for four years, while, longer than that, for an event that one small

:45:38. > :45:41.mistake and your race can be done?" You can see guys go out and win two

:45:42. > :45:44.races and then have a crash and go out. It is part of the sport and

:45:45. > :45:48.sometimes it is difficult to take. For me right now, sitting here

:45:49. > :45:55.watching the racing, it is torture, really. But I have been racing BMX

:45:56. > :45:59.for long enough to know that it is, yeah, something I've dealt with many

:46:00. > :46:03.a time, not on this stage because I have never won the Olympics or an

:46:04. > :46:08.Olympic medal and it is something I would love to add to my resonate.

:46:09. > :46:13.I'm sure that they will come! Let's get back to the racing with Chris

:46:14. > :46:17.and Simon. -- that day. COMMENTATOR: They are lining up for the third and

:46:18. > :46:20.final run-in the first of the men's semifinals, Corben Sharrah from the

:46:21. > :46:29.US, third in the standings at the moment. Here on the inside, Anthony

:46:30. > :46:36.Dean from Australia, who has won both of the first two runs. Dean,

:46:37. > :46:40.Nick Long from the USA along with Corben Sharrah, Oquendo, Ramirez,

:46:41. > :46:55.David Graf, Luis Brethauer. Away they go. Anthony Dean looking

:46:56. > :47:00.to continue that excellent run in a series of rides, tightly packed into

:47:01. > :47:05.turn one. Dean leads the way but he goes wide. Holds onto the front

:47:06. > :47:11.line. One of the Colombian riders is down, David Graf, -- it's Carlos

:47:12. > :47:17.Oquendo who is down. Dean leads the way. He has an advantage now. Corben

:47:18. > :47:24.Sharrah is in second place through the rhythm section. Chasing Hardys

:47:25. > :47:31.yell Van Bob Cameron. -- Jelle van Gorkom. The Colombian goes down.

:47:32. > :47:37.Anthony Dean takes it on the line. Corben Sharrah in force, riders

:47:38. > :47:40.coming in in drips and grabs. The German rider Luis Brethauer, who

:47:41. > :47:44.finished with a bronze medal in the World Championship on the date was

:47:45. > :47:49.won by Liam Phillips in 2013, Carlos Oquendo now over the line for

:47:50. > :47:52.Columbia and the German rider Luis Brethauer Mick looks as though he

:47:53. > :47:56.may have broken collarbone as he walks down the finishing straight

:47:57. > :48:01.and further back, David Graf from Switzerland, barely got out of turn

:48:02. > :48:09.one. It's Haroun scarab stuff, the world of BMX. It means Anthony Dean

:48:10. > :48:15.has gone through, Jelle van Gorkom has gone through, Carlos Ramirez and

:48:16. > :48:19.Nicholas Long have made it. Corben Sharrah who is the big loser there,

:48:20. > :48:24.unfortunately his team-mate has pipped him and he will not be taking

:48:25. > :48:29.part in the Olympic final. What a race, what drama, yet again. The

:48:30. > :48:35.difference between second place overall and this place is one point.

:48:36. > :48:42.So, so close. Disappointing full David Graf, the Swiss rider, who has

:48:43. > :48:46.hit the ground more than once. He fell off in the first two runs

:48:47. > :48:50.yesterday the quarterfinals. Luis Brethauer looks OK, he was holding

:48:51. > :48:54.the left collarbone a few moments ago, but maybe not quite such a

:48:55. > :48:59.problem there. Bruised and battered and fortunately for him, not through

:49:00. > :49:04.to the Olympic final. Here's the action again. The control of lane

:49:05. > :49:09.one proving crucial to getting the whole show. Just caught the rider,

:49:10. > :49:14.he went down, David Graf into the back of him, almost over the top.

:49:15. > :49:19.David Graf catching the wheel of Carlos Oquendo. He lost his front

:49:20. > :49:28.wheel and David Graf entered... Nowhere to go. Those two out of the

:49:29. > :49:31.running. Another good time for Anthony Dean, below 35 seconds. It

:49:32. > :49:38.seems as though the Aussies really are in control. Sam Willoughby.

:49:39. > :49:48.There was the crash. Through the final turn. An impressive ride from

:49:49. > :49:54.Nicholas Long to squeak through into the Olympic final for the second

:49:55. > :49:57.place in the third run. Ramires got through there despite finishing

:49:58. > :50:01.fifth and crushing, because of his consistency with two third places in

:50:02. > :50:05.the opening month. As Chris was saying, you can see how close it is

:50:06. > :50:13.between a whole bunch of those riders, behind Anthony Dean, who

:50:14. > :50:16.sailed through. Yes... In relative terms! Back down to jail as we

:50:17. > :50:22.prepare for the second semifinal, run three of that one.

:50:23. > :50:26.We will get the next one under way, we were chatting about what he's

:50:27. > :50:31.going to do next, having a break, Liam? Yes, I am, my body has taken

:50:32. > :50:35.numerous injuries over the last few years, none more so than in the last

:50:36. > :50:37.few weeks and it's good, I was saying that I think that's the

:50:38. > :50:42.general consensus amongst all the squad across BMX and track, I think

:50:43. > :50:49.is a squad we are young and it's been a constant progression really,

:50:50. > :50:53.to get here, and I think that everybody needs a little bit of time

:50:54. > :50:58.off ready to reset and go again will stop I will ask you after this race

:50:59. > :51:02.about Tokyo but in the meantime I don't want to miss a bit of the

:51:03. > :51:08.action so I will hand you back to Chris and Simon.

:51:09. > :51:12.COMMENTATOR: There is Twan van Gendt, fists in

:51:13. > :51:17.the Olympics four years ago, looking to maintain his spot in the top

:51:18. > :51:23.four, it's tight between him and his compatriot, Nick Kemen, there's

:51:24. > :51:33.Connor Fields from the United States, from Las Vegas. Tory Nyhaug

:51:34. > :51:38.from Canada. Third, with one run to go full stop number 91, Sam

:51:39. > :51:45.Willoughby, and will be the winner of each of the opening two runs.

:51:46. > :51:48.There's only two points between third and seventh overall so far so

:51:49. > :51:59.everything to play for in this final heat.

:52:00. > :52:07.Riders ready, watch the gate. Away they go, 35 seconds of blistering

:52:08. > :52:11.action coming up now. Sam Willoughby leads in towards the first corner. A

:52:12. > :52:16.lot of pressure being put on here. Will everybody get around on two

:52:17. > :52:21.wheels? Yes, they will. Sam Willoughby leads the way. He's being

:52:22. > :52:28.chased hard by Nick Kemen from the Netherlands, Tory Nyhaug and sword.

:52:29. > :52:32.Twan van Gendt from the Netherlands, leading the way is Sam Willoughby

:52:33. > :52:38.once more. Through the final turn, Niek Kimmann in second place. Neck

:52:39. > :52:45.and neck towards the line, but once again Sam Willoughby was the class

:52:46. > :52:48.of the field. Niek Kimmann has got stronger and stronger than longer

:52:49. > :52:53.the racing has gone on after the last two days, after a very hesitant

:52:54. > :52:57.start. So consistent, Sam Willoughby, three rides all under 35

:52:58. > :53:01.seconds. Great to see that masterclass at the front. Connor

:53:02. > :53:05.Fields through safely, and Niek Kimmann in third overall as well.

:53:06. > :53:10.Niek Kimmann for his consistency in those runs gets that spot, I think.

:53:11. > :53:14.We are waiting for confirmation. Connor Fields from the United States

:53:15. > :53:21.has a little look. Sam Willoughby, Connor Fields through, Niek Kimmann

:53:22. > :53:27.third, and Tory Nyhaug is the fourth qualifier. Twan van Gendt loses out

:53:28. > :53:35.by two points at the end of that. Connor Fields lost his time in the

:53:36. > :53:40.first straight. It's looking ominously -- it is looking ominous

:53:41. > :53:44.one of the best rides from the Dutchman. Another rider we think is

:53:45. > :53:49.raising with an injury? He may have a fractured ankle from his crash

:53:50. > :53:57.yesterday but it's hard to look beyond Sam Willoughby cover the same

:53:58. > :54:03.as Mariana Pajon, he's so dominant. This is where he lost his momentum,

:54:04. > :54:11.he'd lost that run and the first two three places back to sixth. Connor

:54:12. > :54:13.Fields, a good job he'd built up an advantage in the opening couple of

:54:14. > :54:17.runs because it could have cost him dearly there. Absolutely, it is all

:54:18. > :54:23.about consistency when it's the best of three. The final will be one

:54:24. > :54:28.straight right, it will be electric. Two hopefully great finals to look

:54:29. > :54:32.forward to in the BMX. They get one shot at it. It's no best of three

:54:33. > :54:35.now, when it's the Olympic final, one race, that is it, we are done.

:54:36. > :54:46.Back to you, Jill. We are waiting for the two finals,

:54:47. > :54:50.just one run. How nerve wracking it is it if you are on that start date

:54:51. > :54:53.knowing it is all or bust question right is obviously where you build

:54:54. > :54:57.your training and everything comes to that one point. The guys once

:54:58. > :55:01.they have done a few raises, they are in the swing of things now.

:55:02. > :55:05.Remarkably you are quite relaxed, I usually am when I get to that point

:55:06. > :55:08.when I've been racing well all day and have had good starts. At that

:55:09. > :55:11.point you are relaxed and you are going through the process, not

:55:12. > :55:16.thinking about it being the last race of the day and what is at

:55:17. > :55:20.stake, it's just another race. The two Aussie guys are flying, so I

:55:21. > :55:25.think that will be the battle into the first corner. There will

:55:26. > :55:30.probably be some carnage behind those guys, I expect. It's so

:55:31. > :55:35.important to get a good draw up at the top. Can you win from eight? You

:55:36. > :55:42.can, yes, guys have done it, Maris Strombergs has done it at World Cup

:55:43. > :55:45.races, Niek Kimmann did it last year, but the chances of that

:55:46. > :55:48.happening are slimmer than if you are in lane one, because obviously

:55:49. > :55:52.you have the inside of the first corner and we all know once you get

:55:53. > :55:58.that you are in control of the race. It can be done, but if I was fastest

:55:59. > :56:02.qualifier, and I know those two Aussie guys will be picking the

:56:03. > :56:08.inside lane is for sure, you won't be seeing them go outside. Back to

:56:09. > :56:12.you, Ore. It looks like last rider standing

:56:13. > :56:17.the way it has gone so far. We will be back for both finals on BBC Four,

:56:18. > :56:20.Dan Walker will take you to that very shortly. Because it's coming

:56:21. > :56:25.towards the end of our time here on BBC Four. As the sun makes it's way

:56:26. > :56:29.beyond the mountains here in the heart and things are closing up down

:56:30. > :56:34.at the Olympic Park, down at the Olympic Golf Course, in the third

:56:35. > :56:38.round, all the way so far at least in the last couple of rounds, Inbee

:56:39. > :56:43.Park of Korea has led the way but in the last few hours, career's Lydia

:56:44. > :56:47.Ko has rocketed up the leaderboard, she is from New Zealand of course,

:56:48. > :56:51.I'm getting my leading golf players mixed up there. The Dzeko has

:56:52. > :56:54.rocketed up the leaderboard in spectacular fashion. She had never

:56:55. > :57:01.done it before but here in Rio she has scored a hole in one -- Lydia

:57:02. > :57:04.Ko. Afterwards she caught up with Kat Downes.

:57:05. > :57:08.Your first hole in one, congratulations, at the Olympics,

:57:09. > :57:11.what time to do it? I know, I have always said I'm not luckiest person

:57:12. > :57:15.about hole in one, but to make it at about hole in one, but to make it at

:57:16. > :57:19.the Olympics is surreal. I would never have imagined it to go in that

:57:20. > :57:23.hole and it was a really tight pin-macro position and with the wind

:57:24. > :57:30.bit -- with the wind being strong, it was a cool feeling and I was

:57:31. > :57:35.almost like sad, like happy sadness, I didn't really know how to react.

:57:36. > :57:40.That's how surprised I was, I've been shooting 6-under in these windy

:57:41. > :57:45.conditions, I have put myself in a good position going into tomorrow.

:57:46. > :57:48.Yours is the round of the day, 29 on the front line. How did you keep

:57:49. > :57:54.yourself in contention with the wind blowing? You have to take it one

:57:55. > :57:57.shot at a time. These holes coming in the past few days work birdie

:57:58. > :58:03.opportunities but today, with the wind being almost opposite of being

:58:04. > :58:07.really strong into was, no, it made it really tough coming down the last

:58:08. > :58:12.hole I had driver three with 6-iron and you don't come into mini par

:58:13. > :58:17.fives with those three clubs, but I felt like I played consistent and

:58:18. > :58:23.when I had a very long but I started -- I tried to stay calm and walk off

:58:24. > :58:27.with the par. Best of luck tomorrow. Thank you. She's in a very strong

:58:28. > :58:33.position going into the final day tomorrow in the battle for the first

:58:34. > :58:36.gold in golf for women since 1966. That hole in one was the cherry on

:58:37. > :58:40.the cake really love a fantastic round for her, the round of the day

:58:41. > :58:45.so far, she's in the clubhouse on 65, going round the front nine in

:58:46. > :58:48.just 29, a brilliant score from New Zealand's Lydia Ko, particularly

:58:49. > :58:52.when you consider her nearest rivals are battling out in the wind on the

:58:53. > :58:57.course at the moment, including our leader, Inbee Park, a seven time

:58:58. > :59:03.major winner from Korea. She's had a mixed bag, the wind really looks

:59:04. > :59:07.like it's beginning to rattle Inbee Park. She was at 1.4-macro shots

:59:08. > :59:13.ahead but it's been pegged back, her lead, to two shots, after some

:59:14. > :59:18.bogeys for Inbee Park, but Charley Hull not too far behind. She's on

:59:19. > :59:21.8-under, so Charley Hull still in contention. Let's had to the 14th,

:59:22. > :59:34.the weather world number three Brooke Henderson is also in hunt.

:59:35. > :59:52.COMMENTATOR: That's all right, safely on.

:59:53. > :00:03.17th, functioning Channon, 7-iron, into the wind. -- Shanshan Feng. A

:00:04. > :00:08.7-iron she wouldn't have taken yesterday with the wind where it

:00:09. > :00:24.was, but the wind is howling, and a fine shot win by the Chinese player.

:00:25. > :00:36.Just 78 yards, 72 metres to the hole Fort arena pillar. -- for Gerina

:00:37. > :01:16.Piller. Oh, yes, very nice touch from the

:01:17. > :01:31.American. So at the 13th, Inbee Park, the

:01:32. > :01:40.tournament leader. Long birdie opportunity for the Korean.

:01:41. > :01:47.Just calms down over a little slope, here, and that is all right, about

:01:48. > :02:19.four or five feet short. A stretch of holes from 11, 12, 13,

:02:20. > :02:24.14, 15, a really tough slog, quite exposed, some tough holes.

:02:25. > :02:36.Behind them on 13 is Stacy Lewis, all three players reaching the

:02:37. > :03:08.green, making it in two. A birdie putt, Stacy Lewis on 13 has

:03:09. > :03:40.a chance. Good effort. At the 16th, second shot to the 16th

:03:41. > :04:01.by In Gee Chun. Coming up a little short.

:04:02. > :04:07.We are going to leave the Gulf at this stage on BBC Four and a warm

:04:08. > :04:11.welcome to Copacabana Beach. We are going to take you all the way

:04:12. > :04:13.through 2am, and the golf will be available on the Red Button and on

:04:14. > :04:23.the BBC website. Let's have this putt to birdie --

:04:24. > :04:27.for birdie and see if you can make 9-under par. I've always wanted to

:04:28. > :04:36.be Peter Alliss! Charley Hull, from 25 feet. Oh, lovely. She will have

:04:37. > :04:40.that to save par and stay at 8-under par. We will keep you up-to-date

:04:41. > :04:43.with that and let you know how she finishes. Lots of live sport to

:04:44. > :04:52.bring you tonight. We will be at the BMX shortly but this is what is

:04:53. > :04:57.coming up on BBC for the night. -- on BBC four tonight. In a moment,

:04:58. > :04:58.the thrills and spills of the Gold Medal races in the finals of the
