:00:20. > :00:25.HAZEL IRVINE: Good afternoon, day 14 here and we are heading straight for
:00:26. > :00:31.tae kwon do. If you shared Jade Jones altar macro
:00:32. > :00:35.second gold medal last night, you will be intrigued by the fortunes of
:00:36. > :00:41.this man, Lutalo Mohammad, from Walthamstow. Bronze medal in London,
:00:42. > :00:45.his first fight in the competition against Hayder Shkara of Australia
:00:46. > :00:53.in the 80 kg class. We will hand you straight over.
:00:54. > :01:00.The power in Lutalo Mohammad's kicks. He has gauged the distance
:01:01. > :01:07.perfectly straightaway. Thought he had another one. Think he missed the
:01:08. > :01:12.head. The defensive punch through of the Australian to move it to four.
:01:13. > :01:17.What about the confidence, he looks to the crowd, to his fans, as his
:01:18. > :01:26.cause. We haven't seen a lot of that, he is bringing something very
:01:27. > :01:31.different to the mat. It seems that Mohammad has worked out his distance
:01:32. > :01:36.straightaway. There we are, shot to the body, doesn't count this time.
:01:37. > :01:44.Just waiting for the attack, waiting to counter. Going further ahead.
:01:45. > :01:58.-- going for the head. Hayden Shuker Renaud has had a minute to get a
:01:59. > :02:06.feel for the force that is coming for him -- Hayder Shkara. He
:02:07. > :02:12.continues to yell out, his coach and his man continues to struggle. Goes
:02:13. > :02:19.down, but no score there, there will be a warning.
:02:20. > :02:27.Caught off balance with a leg in the air. You are likely to go to ground.
:02:28. > :02:33.Attempt at a double-click to the head from Mohammad, didn't come off.
:02:34. > :02:39.He is going to get point, though. -- another point. Second warning for
:02:40. > :02:42.the Australian for the same thing, so that equates to appoint, to the
:02:43. > :03:03.opposition. -- a point. There is the point for the head kick
:03:04. > :03:08.again. Losing his balance but he scored off it. 8-0, he is being
:03:09. > :03:20.outclassed, the 26-year-old Australian. He is a flying force
:03:21. > :03:25.from Manchester, Mohammad. Again, looks up to the crowd, pumps up the
:03:26. > :03:30.fist. He is loving it out there. He looks by far the superior fighter.
:03:31. > :03:36.He is playing a really good game here, picking off his opponent when
:03:37. > :03:42.he needs to. Shkara struggling to block and defend the attacks that
:03:43. > :03:47.are coming in. Mohammad looks like he is going for the body shot and
:03:48. > :03:56.that the last second, changes it to a body shot. Just blocked that time
:03:57. > :04:02.by the shoulder of Shkara. He just went at him and did not stop. The
:04:03. > :04:08.buzzer couldn't come quick enough. Hayder Shkara was born in Australia
:04:09. > :04:13.to a Japanese mother and an Iraqi father, so has always been a little
:04:14. > :04:17.bit different to everyone else, he says, always struggling to fit in.
:04:18. > :04:21.One of the intentions of making the Olympic Games is to show the
:04:22. > :04:26.community, the Islamic community and Koranic immunity that all migrants,
:04:27. > :04:30.no matter what their position, their background, can achieve through hard
:04:31. > :04:37.work -- Arabic community. Certainly hard work for him at the moment, he
:04:38. > :04:43.can't get on the scoreboard. It is three two minute rounds but at the
:04:44. > :04:46.margin is 12 or more after two completed rounds, the bout will be
:04:47. > :05:08.stopped and there is a chance of that occurring here.
:05:09. > :05:14.Shkara is going to need to step up now if he is going to try and catch
:05:15. > :05:23.the lead that Mohammad has. An 8-point deficit. So feisty from
:05:24. > :05:24.Mohammad, really attacking all the time, keeping Shkara on the back
:05:25. > :05:44.foot. Timing is impeccable. Mohammad do well to stay on the mat.
:05:45. > :05:49.The Australian taking the middle of the mat and coming at his opponent.
:05:50. > :05:55.Hayder Shkara continues to work. He is not giving it up, that is visual.
:05:56. > :06:03.Mohammad thought he had a kick to the head, it didn't register.
:06:04. > :06:13.Massive build, 91 centimetres, six foot three, all muscle. Power punch
:06:14. > :06:23.to the body but again, it doesn't quite get through from Shkara.
:06:24. > :06:36.Hayder Shkara of Australia really struggling to get anything to count
:06:37. > :06:40.right now. To the body from Great Britain, thought it was a score. It
:06:41. > :06:46.is hard, you really have to go with some force and it has to be so clean
:06:47. > :06:49.to register on the electronic sensors. Spinning kick towards the
:06:50. > :06:56.head, well defended but this time gets through, so within one movement
:06:57. > :07:02.now of this bout ending. An 11 point lead. Mohammad really going forward.
:07:03. > :07:09.He is well aware, he thinks he has got there with the body shot. Not
:07:10. > :07:13.quite. Shkara trying to defend to take this into the third round and
:07:14. > :07:18.he won't. Another three points therefore Great Britain and in two
:07:19. > :07:22.seconds, this will be all over. He has gone a little bit early, it has
:07:23. > :07:29.to be the end of the second round and the headgear goes back on. He
:07:30. > :07:33.has done it, he has won it easily. Hayder Shkara is a lawyer and he
:07:34. > :07:40.might want to see his opponent in court, that was almost criminal.
:07:41. > :07:47.14-0. Greater respect for one another. Hayder Shkara, he went from
:07:48. > :07:52.just being a sparring partner in London, now he is knocked out in the
:07:53. > :08:01.first round here in Rio. Let's hope he can come back in four years and
:08:02. > :08:04.go a step further but for Great Britain, Muhammad, what a fight.
:08:05. > :08:09.Outclassed his opponent and he moves forward to the quarterfinals. There
:08:10. > :08:15.were some injury concerns coming in, he missed last year's World
:08:16. > :08:18.Championships with a knee injury and earned qualification by winning
:08:19. > :08:25.silver and gold in successive events but he still was struggling with it
:08:26. > :08:32.and only made one outing this year. He beat Cook in that one outing, at
:08:33. > :08:35.the European Championships. He is fit and certainly firing. He
:08:36. > :08:42.certainly is and he has nicely progressed through the round of 16,
:08:43. > :08:47.14-0. Stopped at the second round. He will have conserved energy, blown
:08:48. > :08:51.the cobwebs away and let's see what he can do in the quarters.
:08:52. > :08:55.HAZEL IRVINE: That was emphatic, wonderful performance and the very
:08:56. > :09:00.confidence building performance from Lutalo Mohammad as he comes back in
:09:01. > :09:07.bidding for gold, having won bronze in London. His next fight in the
:09:08. > :09:10.quarterfinal will be later on, 3pm our time, seven o'clock depending on
:09:11. > :09:16.how things go at the venue for the next fight in the quarterfinals.
:09:17. > :09:20.Now, it was last Tuesday, the 9th of August, that marked 80 years to the
:09:21. > :09:27.day since the legendary Jesse Owens won the last of his four gold medals
:09:28. > :09:31.in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. We have seen an awful lot of great
:09:32. > :09:36.Olympians since then, the greatest, we have seen Michael Phelps and
:09:37. > :09:40.Usain Bolt, who have won many, many more medals than Jesse Owens ever
:09:41. > :09:50.did but the American's legacy is not really just about the medals.
:09:51. > :09:57.MICHAEL JOHNSON: the grandson of a slave, the son of a sharecropper,
:09:58. > :10:03.James Cleveland Owens was born into poverty. A childhood stricken by
:10:04. > :10:08.ill-health, he spent his early years working the cotton fields of
:10:09. > :10:12.Alabama. His family moved north to Ohio in the great migration, fleeing
:10:13. > :10:16.the prejudice of the South. And his father started work at the local
:10:17. > :10:23.steel mill, which gave Jesse the chance of a good education. It was a
:10:24. > :10:24.junior high that his athletic talents were first discovered by
:10:25. > :10:36.track coach Charles Reilly. His speed gain him a place at Ohio
:10:37. > :10:42.State University, but there were no scholarships for black students, no
:10:43. > :10:45.matter how fast you were. Owens was made captain of the track and field
:10:46. > :10:51.team but had to live off campus, shower separately and eaten away
:10:52. > :10:57.from his white team-mates. -- eat away. But in 1935, the world took
:10:58. > :11:01.notice, in the Big ten championship at the University of Michigan where
:11:02. > :11:05.he set three world records and equal fourth, all in the space of 45
:11:06. > :11:11.minutes. The following summer, he was representing his nation.
:11:12. > :11:26.SPEAKING GERMAN. Berlin, 1936, the stage was set for
:11:27. > :11:28.Hitler's Nancy Games. The stage was also set for Jesse Owens, who was in
:11:29. > :11:34.the form of his life -- Nazi Games. Owens is ahead. Metcalfe comes up.
:11:35. > :11:51.But Owens wins. I am very glad to have won the 100m
:11:52. > :11:54.in the Olympic Games here in Berlin. The competition was grand, I was
:11:55. > :12:00.very glad to come out on top. Thank you. The next day, he struggled in
:12:01. > :12:10.the long jump. It was only when German competitor
:12:11. > :12:13.Luz Long suggested he moved his star position that Owens improved. --
:12:14. > :12:26.start position. A new world record, 8.06 metres. Luz
:12:27. > :12:29.Long was the first to congratulate him and the two remained friends
:12:30. > :12:37.until Luz Long was killed in World War II. Owens went on to win the
:12:38. > :12:44.200m and 4 x 100 m relay, all in the space of just six days. I haven't
:12:45. > :12:50.seen my wife for three months and I am very glad to be back home to see
:12:51. > :12:53.her. On his return to the States, there was a ticker tape parade
:12:54. > :12:59.through the streets of New York and reception at the Waldorf Astoria in
:13:00. > :13:03.his honour. But when Jesse and his wife tried to enter the hotel, they
:13:04. > :13:09.were told not to use the front door because of the colour of their skin.
:13:10. > :13:13.There was no telegram from the president, no invitation to the
:13:14. > :13:17.White House. Franklin D Roosevelt failed to acknowledge Jesse Owens'
:13:18. > :13:23.achievement. In 1976, Owens was awarded the presidential medal of
:13:24. > :13:29.Freedom by President Gerald Ford. He died four years later of cancer.
:13:30. > :13:33.Owens was a man who carried himself with dignity and grace. When I look
:13:34. > :13:36.back on his difficult childhood, what he overcame, what he
:13:37. > :13:45.overachieved -- achieved and stood for, I feel a sense of pride. Jesse
:13:46. > :13:52.Owens is a hero and an inspiration. He years. 80 years last Tuesday when
:13:53. > :13:58.he achieved the last of those four gold medals. Absolutely amazing.
:13:59. > :14:01.Now, back to Rio and what is happening here. Last night, there
:14:02. > :14:04.was a huge chance for the host nation to celebrate success. They
:14:05. > :14:12.had missed out on beach volleyball in the women's final the night
:14:13. > :14:15.before. Could Bruno and Allison put things right against the Italians?
:14:16. > :14:19.Everyone in this nation hoped they could.
:14:20. > :14:24.Brazil against Italy is the gold medal match and will the home fans
:14:25. > :14:31.be able to cheer the gold medal bows so crave?
:14:32. > :14:34.-- they so crave? We will have some of this.
:14:35. > :14:47.About is the power. That first big, Lupe, was outrageous. And Allison
:14:48. > :14:53.gets his first block of the match and the crowd enjoyed that one. He
:14:54. > :15:04.rolls it into the corner and Brazil have come from 1-5 down to 9-8 up.
:15:05. > :15:10.It has been hit and it stays hit. Big point, this. First set point,
:15:11. > :15:20.Brazil. Brazil are halfway to the gold medal. So Brazil get the second
:15:21. > :15:24.set under way. Down quickly. What a point!
:15:25. > :15:29.There's some energy about the Italian pair right now. Finds the
:15:30. > :15:37.mark and they are in front. They are in front for the first time in the
:15:38. > :15:45.second set. Alison seems to have the bit between his teeth. It is
:15:46. > :15:53.electric on Copacabana beach. Three match points to Brazil. We are one
:15:54. > :16:00.point away from bedlam. This is what they wanted! This is what they came
:16:01. > :16:08.for! Alison and Bruno have delivered gold for Brazil on Copacabana beach
:16:09. > :16:12.in the men's beach volleyball. They're so happy about this, here in
:16:13. > :16:16.our host nation. The first men's beach volleyball gold for Brazil in
:16:17. > :16:21.12 years. Athens was the last time. It was chucking it down here,
:16:22. > :16:25.ironically speaking, for that celebration. It didn't matter a jot
:16:26. > :16:31.for everybody. As I was showing you earlier on, the only payer that got,
:16:32. > :16:37.it because it was so late in the day was the O Dia. They say double gold
:16:38. > :16:42.for Alison and Bruno and the girls earlier on in the day. Brazil very
:16:43. > :16:50.happy about things so far on day 14. We're very happy about things in
:16:51. > :16:54.terms of the progress of Lutalo Muhammad. Let's get his reaction
:16:55. > :16:58.from that. He came out into the arena with a
:16:59. > :17:04.huge smile on your face. A perfect start. Yeah, exactly what I wanted.
:17:05. > :17:07.Rio is a beautiful city. I just want to keep doing. This one down, three
:17:08. > :17:17.to go. The bronze medal four years ago in London, you want better than
:17:18. > :17:22.that. I'm only here for gold. I have three matches to accomplish my goal.
:17:23. > :17:26.It's gold medal or bust. Yeah, yeah. Let's hope it's Gold Medal then and
:17:27. > :17:32.not bust. He has a lot of work to do. He has a quarter final bout at
:17:33. > :17:37.7pm. This is the sprint canoeing. We've been enjoying a good morning
:17:38. > :17:42.there. Liam Heath the fastest through to the semifinals. We're
:17:43. > :17:46.going to the K4 now. We saw Britain's women struggling a bit.
:17:47. > :17:52.They're going in their semifinal shortly. It's Liam Heath that we're
:17:53. > :17:55.concentrating on first. A great deal of encouragement from that
:17:56. > :18:00.performance earlier on? Yeah, just what we were hoping for. We heard
:18:01. > :18:06.the interview with John yesterday, his partner, in the K2 and John was
:18:07. > :18:10.saying how well Liam was going in training and how expectations were
:18:11. > :18:13.high and how he's absolutely been blitzing it in training. He looked
:18:14. > :18:19.in fine form this morning. He got off to a good start. So important in
:18:20. > :18:23.the shortest distance in which they compete here at the Olympic Games.
:18:24. > :18:27.He managed to win with some ease. He saved a bit at the end. He is in the
:18:28. > :18:33.first of the semifinals. That's due off at 2. 07, UK time. The first
:18:34. > :18:37.four in that semifinal will make it through to the medal final, the
:18:38. > :18:42.other remaining boats head to the B final. But there are a couple of
:18:43. > :18:50.good competitors alongside him, the German won his heat and he's there
:18:51. > :18:53.as well. The Spanish as well. Tough competition for Liam. The first four
:18:54. > :18:58.go through to the semifinal and he's in great form. We talked about that
:18:59. > :19:03.fact earlier, he hasn't been doing this event for long but he's looked
:19:04. > :19:06.good so far. It's amazing the work load these paddlers go through to
:19:07. > :19:13.achieve this standard at the Olympic Games. I was reading an article
:19:14. > :19:17.saying that Liam weighs 75 kilos and he's doing pull-ups with 90 kilos
:19:18. > :19:22.worth of weight. That's what he's having to do to achieve the kind of
:19:23. > :19:25.lateral muscle definition to power the boat. It's astonishing when you
:19:26. > :19:30.hear the amount of weight that these guys are able to shift. The power
:19:31. > :19:35.they produce is quite incredible. I have to be honest, from a Lehman's
:19:36. > :19:40.point of view, when I see a normal human being, that I think I am! When
:19:41. > :19:44.I see these guys walk past I feel so intimidated. The muscle definition,
:19:45. > :19:47.as you point out, on their arms, shoulders, down their backs, if you
:19:48. > :19:51.got a close up of what the muscle definition is like, especially down
:19:52. > :19:55.from the neck to the lower waist, it is incredible, what they have there.
:19:56. > :19:58.They're like thoroughbreds really, like race horses. They look amazing.
:19:59. > :20:01.The physical definition is quite outstanding. The power they produce
:20:02. > :20:06.over the shortest distance is amazing. But the speed that they
:20:07. > :20:10.have to show out of the traps early on from the start is so important.
:20:11. > :20:15.If they get behind, they struggle to make that ground up. They can
:20:16. > :20:19.sustain it. That's the beauty of it. They can sustain it for a
:20:20. > :20:23.significant period. Liam Heath has looked fantastic so far. We're
:20:24. > :20:32.keeping our fingers crossed that he goes through this semifinal. The
:20:33. > :20:42.first four go through. One of two heats. Liam in lane five. Let's
:20:43. > :20:48.rejoin Patrick and Helen. Looking forward to this next one. The first
:20:49. > :20:52.heat of the, or the first semifinal of the K 1 200 metres. Liam Heath
:20:53. > :20:57.who raced in the third heat has a draw in the first semifinals. He's
:20:58. > :21:00.had less rest than most of the athletes out there. I don't think
:21:01. > :21:12.there's any need to worry. He looked very confident. Liam Heath will be
:21:13. > :21:24.on the nearside as far as the camera is concerned. There is Liam. Every
:21:25. > :21:27.single paddling event is about the start, middle section and the
:21:28. > :21:41.finish. You have to be in contention at the start. This, in particular is
:21:42. > :21:45.maintaining the speed. Yeah, all about the last ten, 15 metres and
:21:46. > :21:58.who can maintain and keep the momentum on the boat very high.
:21:59. > :22:05.They're keeping their stroke rate extremely high. We have Rauhe in
:22:06. > :22:11.lane four of Germany. Heath in five. Craviotto in six. Mark De Jonge, the
:22:12. > :22:25.current world champion. Will he make it through to the finals. One to
:22:26. > :22:30.four make it through to the A final. Not a good start from Liam Heath.
:22:31. > :22:34.He's left behind certainly by Rauhe of Germany and Craviotto of Spain a
:22:35. > :22:39.better start as well. Now we start to see Liam Heath wind it up, gets
:22:40. > :22:42.into that forward position. The baseball cap in reverse. I don't
:22:43. > :22:50.know whether that adds anything to his performance. He is now heading
:22:51. > :22:52.Rauhe by a couple of inches. It's about the first four going through.
:22:53. > :23:00.A good lane for the winner certainly. Liam Heath just easing
:23:01. > :23:04.up, a lunge from Rauhe to get a top spot. Liam would have had a little
:23:05. > :23:07.scare off the start. He must have been in eighth position out of
:23:08. > :23:12.eight. He showed what he can do between 50 and 100. Absolutely. He
:23:13. > :23:20.didn't have the greatest start, but he really picked it up there. Not a
:23:21. > :23:25.bad time. He certainly will be looking to sort out that start. That
:23:26. > :23:30.was a quicker time than he did in the eats earlier on. He had to work
:23:31. > :23:35.very hard for it. He did 34. 327 in the first in the heats this morning.
:23:36. > :23:38.A good time there from him, certainly without getting that good
:23:39. > :23:44.start. He had to work extremely hard. Then you saw a push from Rauhe
:23:45. > :23:49.trying to get up against him again. Then he kicked in and accelerated
:23:50. > :23:54.again in the last 20 metres out. You don't win Olympic finals with a bad
:23:55. > :23:57.start. Is that going to just disrupt his confidence a little before
:23:58. > :24:03.tomorrow? No, I don't think so. What it really showed is actually how
:24:04. > :24:05.dominant he was. Alongside him Ronald Rauhe and Craviotto.
:24:06. > :24:09.Craviotto was the one who got gold ahead of him in the K 2 yesterday.
:24:10. > :24:13.He showed just how dominating he is. Yes, he will be looking for a better
:24:14. > :24:17.start, of course, he won't want to be under that pressure. But what it
:24:18. > :24:20.shows is that strength mentally as well as physically that it didn't
:24:21. > :24:27.bother him. He just got involved in the race and took it all the way to
:24:28. > :24:32.the finish line. That slow mo showing what strength he has. So
:24:33. > :24:35.much of the power comes unseen as far as we're concerned. But it's
:24:36. > :24:39.coming from the abs and the legs that are doing just as much work.
:24:40. > :24:46.It's the connection between the lower body and the upper body that
:24:47. > :24:50.Liam Heath has marched through many paddle for year after year. They
:24:51. > :24:55.never get the feel that these top athletes have got. So the job is
:24:56. > :25:03.half done. He's got a Silver Medal from the K2 yesterday. And he's now
:25:04. > :25:07.into the A final of the K1 200 metres, a title Britain took four
:25:08. > :25:11.years ago. You have to feel sorry for Ed that he didn't even qualify
:25:12. > :25:16.for the Olympics this time round. We've seen why. Liam heath is the
:25:17. > :25:21.number one. He certainly is. He's extremely dominant. I remember being
:25:22. > :25:25.told, coming back from the European Championships, how dominating he
:25:26. > :25:28.was. That demonstration of 200 metres there shows the dominance
:25:29. > :25:32.because of the fact he didn't get the good start. I'm not sure what
:25:33. > :25:35.happened. But he just kept in his game. He just took it out and yeah,
:25:36. > :25:37.he came under a bit of threat for the first place, then he upped the
:25:38. > :25:49.rate again. I think the excitement is going to
:25:50. > :25:55.build over the next 24 hours, as we wait to see whether he can add
:25:56. > :25:58.another medal and I believe, Liam is now with Rishi.
:25:59. > :26:01.We watched you through the first heat in the semifinal. The first
:26:02. > :26:07.heat looked comfortable. How much tougher was the semi? Yeah, the
:26:08. > :26:13.first heat was very comfortable, controlled. Semi was still
:26:14. > :26:16.comfortable and controlled. Got a whipping tail wind at the moment,
:26:17. > :26:21.which is great. But it picks the water up. It makes it choppy. Got to
:26:22. > :26:24.keep it in control, keep calm and just try to grip the water the best
:26:25. > :26:29.you can. Get to the finish line basically. We talk about it quite
:26:30. > :26:34.often, we look at how important the start is on this shortest of
:26:35. > :26:38.distances, are you guys - is the start so critical for you? If you
:26:39. > :26:45.miss it a beat, how hard is it to claw that back? You know, races are
:26:46. > :26:49.won in thousandths of a second. You have to be on the buzzer when the
:26:50. > :26:52.gate drops. It's more important to have a solid, consistent start to
:26:53. > :26:57.set the race up. It's not just the start and finish, it's the bit in
:26:58. > :27:01.the middle where you gain ground and get the fast times. We hope you
:27:02. > :27:05.recover and you're 100% ready to go tomorrow. We wish you the very best
:27:06. > :27:10.of luck. Thank you very much. Back to the commentary and to Helen and
:27:11. > :27:17.Patrick. We're waiting for the second heat of
:27:18. > :27:20.the K 1 200. This might give us an indication of what Liam will be up
:27:21. > :27:25.against tomorrow. The winning time from the first semi just over 34
:27:26. > :27:30.seconds. But with a poor start, you start to think that Liam Heath could
:27:31. > :27:33.go sub-34 if the conditions stay like this. If he nails the start,
:27:34. > :27:38.there's a bit of time in it. -- better time in it. There's time for
:27:39. > :27:49.him in that. If the conditions are the same he could go sub-34.
:27:50. > :28:01.Beaumont is one man to watch. Australia in six with Stephen Bird.
:28:02. > :28:10.Rumjancevs in seven from Latvia. There's the Australian. Australia
:28:11. > :28:21.will be desperate for success here. Australia got the bronze medal in
:28:22. > :28:34.the K2 1,000 m. Argentina in lane eight. Favourites to watch, Molnar
:28:35. > :28:43.of Hungary, Rizza in lane four and Beaumont of Francis in five.
:28:44. > :28:50.-- France in five. Just over 30 seconds of madness. 100% power. But
:28:51. > :28:55.the precision has got to be there as well.
:28:56. > :28:57.One missed stroke and that could be the chance of the A final out the
:28:58. > :29:11.window. Liam Heath safely through. A good
:29:12. > :29:17.start from Stephen Bird of Australia. A bit too much bouncing
:29:18. > :29:21.on the boat from ham. Beaumont -- from him. Beaumont looking smooth.
:29:22. > :29:28.Italy going well with Rizza. He's widening the power now. Beaumont
:29:29. > :29:34.looking good. The Hungarian is coming through. Sorry no, it's Rizza
:29:35. > :29:40.from Italy. Now Beaumont from France. He's really coming through.
:29:41. > :29:44.Ten metres to go and Maxime Beaumont not a totally convincing
:29:45. > :29:48.performance. Look at the time. We got 33 on the clock. If they've
:29:49. > :29:52.beaten 34, it's considerably quicker than the first heat. We're waiting
:29:53. > :29:57.for confirmation of that. The times aren't up, going through the photo
:29:58. > :30:01.finish procedure, which took an age in the men's K 2 200 yesterday
:30:02. > :30:08.before we were sure that Britain not only got a medal, but it was the
:30:09. > :30:12.Silver Medal. 34. 398 the initial time.
:30:13. > :30:28.chips and Liam Heath winning his semifinal in 34.076. It is a big,
:30:29. > :30:32.big margin. It is time to get excited and if Liam Heath takes the
:30:33. > :30:36.gold, he will have a collection of gold, silver and bronze from Olympic
:30:37. > :30:40.Games. No one has bettered that. I wonder whether he is aware of that,
:30:41. > :30:47.probably very much so and if he isn't, I am sure his partner John
:30:48. > :30:50.Schofield will be honoured. That performance in the first semifinal
:30:51. > :30:55.from Liam Heath, I didn't see any troubles with anyone's starts in the
:30:56. > :30:58.second semifinal, so you have to say he has got the time in him and it
:30:59. > :31:03.will be a surprise if he isn't up there and making sure everyone else
:31:04. > :31:07.is working really hard to beat him. Well, it is so exciting and of
:31:08. > :31:12.course, with two medals from the canoe slalom and we already had one
:31:13. > :31:18.medal from the canoe sprint, if they can add another one tomorrow in this
:31:19. > :31:22.K1 200m, then that equal is the tally from London, but the gold
:31:23. > :31:27.medal would be that little bit special. And how good is that, that
:31:28. > :31:32.Great Britain took the 200 title in 2012? They are not there yet, but
:31:33. > :31:36.looking very good for medal if not the gold. Absolutely, it is
:31:37. > :31:40.fantastic. They have been a really tight knit group, the three of them,
:31:41. > :31:46.Schofield, Heath and Ed Mckeever, they work so hard from the outset --
:31:47. > :31:51.worked so hard from the outset when it was introduced into the programme
:31:52. > :31:56.and how they have managed to do that, the three of them, with their
:31:57. > :32:01.coach, is amazing. The first of four going through to the a final and
:32:02. > :32:05.Australia, with Stephen Bird, confirmed in second position. Italy
:32:06. > :32:18.in three, Latvia in four, Lithuania in five. Sun Navas Kazakis misses
:32:19. > :32:26.out, quite a big margin -- Navakauskas misses out. Maxime
:32:27. > :32:29.Beaumont, three tenths of a second slower than Liam Heath. Conditions
:32:30. > :32:33.could have been marginally different, that could have been the
:32:34. > :32:37.factor but it looks encouraging, especially when you consider Liam
:32:38. > :32:41.Heath was off the start line like a snail, he had a dreadful start and
:32:42. > :32:48.went into overdrive from 50m onwards. These are the men that have
:32:49. > :32:58.qualified for the capital letter a -- letter a final.
:32:59. > :33:01.HAZEL IRVINE: That final will be a roundabout 1:05pm, so more or less
:33:02. > :33:05.as me come on air on Saturday, we will head straight there. I am
:33:06. > :33:12.looking at the times, Liam Heath is clearly the man to beat, that 34.06
:33:13. > :33:14.is the best time in a semifinal, as Patrick and Helen were saying and
:33:15. > :33:20.when you compare it to the winning time of Ed Mckeever in the final
:33:21. > :33:23.last time in London, that was 36.2, so they have already smashed the
:33:24. > :33:28.Olympic record so far, and it shows you, because this is a new event,
:33:29. > :33:31.only brought in four years ago, it shows you the development and
:33:32. > :33:35.progress that has been made in this shorter sprint in the last four
:33:36. > :33:40.years. Liam Heath clearly is the man in form. It is time to go to the
:33:41. > :33:43.Equestrian Centre, I have been promising you the individual
:33:44. > :33:47.show-jumping and we have got a two rider and horse commendations, Ben
:33:48. > :33:52.Maher on Tic Tac and Nick Skelton on Big Star. Big Star was the Big Star
:33:53. > :33:58.of the London Games and to mark your card, the top 35 got through to the
:33:59. > :34:02.first round of jumping, the top 20 will go through to the final round
:34:03. > :34:06.of jumping tonight, so very important moments for Nick Skelton.
:34:07. > :34:14.The moment of truth for the 58-year-old, who was absolutely key
:34:15. > :34:23.in Britain's team gold medal four years ago, with the lovely horse Big
:34:24. > :34:27.Star. Now 13 years old, the owners have been huge supporters to Nick
:34:28. > :34:35.and the sport show-jumping. Gary used to jump on the county circuit.
:34:36. > :35:00.Now, is this next 80 or 90 seconds going to bring?
:35:01. > :35:11.So Nick here just starting off, a huge leap over the water.
:35:12. > :35:45.Lovely seven strides. Just this last line.
:35:46. > :35:53.Just the last fence to go, sets him up. He has jumped it, he is inside
:35:54. > :36:01.the time, what a round from Nick Skelton. Nick Skelton and the
:36:02. > :36:06.owners, they have given us the first clear round and British hopes may
:36:07. > :36:12.rise this final day to a medal. That was a brilliant round. And
:36:13. > :36:18.absolutely masqueraders -- masterly display of riding. He has brought
:36:19. > :36:24.Big Star here totally fit, totally sound, everything perfect today. And
:36:25. > :36:29.it is all about management. Nick has waited four years for this round and
:36:30. > :36:35.he has nailed it. But it is only part of the story, a long way to go.
:36:36. > :36:45.HAZEL Nick, you kept saying that the horse
:36:46. > :36:49.had it in him and what a round. Amazing, and finally, at that time,
:36:50. > :36:53.isn't it? I looked at it last night and thought it was very big and then
:36:54. > :36:59.I walked in and didn't think it was that big but riding it, it rides
:37:00. > :37:03.much bigger than it looks. But he has done great, amazing. A lot of
:37:04. > :37:08.riders still to come, it gives you a leg up to get to the next round. I
:37:09. > :37:11.think there will be a few clears, to be honest and it depends on what he
:37:12. > :37:17.builds on the next round but at least I am a third of the way there.
:37:18. > :37:21.And the water tray is a little bit different on this one. I wasn't
:37:22. > :37:25.messing with that today. I was a bit close the other day and a bit week
:37:26. > :37:29.off the ground but I was still steady through it today, but more
:37:30. > :37:31.positive off the ground. We will speak to you after the next one,
:37:32. > :37:35.thanks. HAZEL IRVINE: And the good news we
:37:36. > :37:39.are receiving is that Nick has definitely qualify for the final and
:37:40. > :37:44.so he and Big Star are through and Ben Maher on Tic Tac, that is very
:37:45. > :37:48.shortly, so we will see that rather quickly as well, because they are
:37:49. > :37:52.about to get into the arena. We have a date back at the canoe slalom, we
:37:53. > :38:00.have seen our Brazilian friends in the sea to go through to the final,
:38:01. > :38:01.so they can sit back and assess the competition in the semifinals. -- in
:38:02. > :38:13.the C2. Ukraine and Hungary are the two
:38:14. > :38:20.Kroos you would expect to take it out. Doesn't make any difference. If
:38:21. > :38:25.you win already, hungry have decided they can just have an easy stroll
:38:26. > :38:30.and beat the team from Mozambique. Ukraine pushing a little bit harder
:38:31. > :38:35.in the initial stages, maybe just want to practice that start, so
:38:36. > :38:40.important to get that timing, it is the second most critical phase of
:38:41. > :38:48.the race. It is all about whether you want to take it as practice as a
:38:49. > :38:55.crew. This section of the race, certainly in the canoe doubles
:38:56. > :38:59.semifinals, it is very much a trial out, it is not really too much
:39:00. > :39:03.competition as to who is going to go through. The crew from Mozambique
:39:04. > :39:08.are significantly behind inability. For the rest of them, it is a bit of
:39:09. > :39:13.a reseeding process and that depends on how important that to them. They
:39:14. > :39:19.don't know what they are going to be the conditions, so it is a difficult
:39:20. > :39:29.one, difficult one to decide. Ukraine have their noses ahead, they
:39:30. > :39:33.took bronze at the World Championships and are European
:39:34. > :39:38.champions from 2015, so certainly a crew we will be looking out for
:39:39. > :39:43.tomorrow. They are big men, so they tend to have a slightly lower stroke
:39:44. > :39:48.rate than the Brazilians, two smaller men, that is where there is
:39:49. > :39:54.going to be a great battle tomorrow. And then the Czechs, prospects for
:39:55. > :39:59.medals? They could be, they are a good boat. Fifth in London and a fat
:40:00. > :40:05.the World Championships, I think it will depend on how everybody comes
:40:06. > :40:07.out tomorrow -- fifth at. We will see very different racing, it is
:40:08. > :40:14.quite hard to compare when you are out here. We saw the two cruise
:40:15. > :40:18.going through from the heat and they took it out quite hard but still had
:40:19. > :40:22.the advantage of being able to slow down. You can see them almost sort
:40:23. > :40:28.of easing up, making sure they feel good together. That is the most
:40:29. > :40:32.important thing, that they are feeling good, their rhythm and flow
:40:33. > :40:38.on the water is comfortable and that is a feeling they wanted to take
:40:39. > :40:42.through with them to the finals. The feeling has to be there. Again, the
:40:43. > :40:46.man at the back of the boat tending to take the weight, planting his
:40:47. > :40:51.blade fraction at Leigh before the man in front, who is essentially
:40:52. > :40:57.setting their rhythm. It is not so bad in the K2 and C2, but in the
:40:58. > :41:03.cave for, it is a problem because of the man in front gets carried away
:41:04. > :41:10.with the tempo, the men behind can't keep up with it. -- K for. They are
:41:11. > :41:16.six feet seven, they cannot turn the blade over like someone who is five
:41:17. > :41:21.foot 11. That is why it is key to have a plan. They will have a bit of
:41:22. > :41:25.room to adapt but equally, they do know what they are doing, they can
:41:26. > :41:29.only adapt so far, they have to have a plan and be able to react but at
:41:30. > :41:35.the same time, they have to stay in their game plan. You often hear
:41:36. > :41:40.coaches, Natalie is talking about the length of the stroke. Another
:41:41. > :41:45.aspect that is crucial is the amount of time the blade is out of the
:41:46. > :41:48.water because when it is out of the water, you are decelerating, that is
:41:49. > :41:55.why a high stroke rate is significant. Easy win for Ukraine.
:41:56. > :41:59.The Czech Republic go through in second place. Hungary are going to
:42:00. > :42:03.take third and they have been on a Sunday stroll all the way from the
:42:04. > :42:09.start, because they knew they had the better of Mozambique. So Hungary
:42:10. > :42:12.get through to the final with the least effort of everyone in that
:42:13. > :42:22.semifinal and we have one more to come.
:42:23. > :42:33.So here we see the line-up for the second semifinal of the C2 1000m and
:42:34. > :42:38.we are looking for times around 3:20. The first semifinal was a bit
:42:39. > :42:43.of a nonevent because he merit back at the rate of three of the top four
:42:44. > :42:47.teams go through to the final and with Mozambique involved, Hungary,
:42:48. > :42:53.Ukraine and Czech Republic knew they had an easy ride. We have five boats
:42:54. > :43:13.in second century. Poland and Russia, with stock a laugh and --
:43:14. > :43:22.with Shtokalov and Pervukhin. Marinov at the back, the oldest at
:43:23. > :43:36.48. And in lane seven, Uzbekistan. Kochnev and mur back -- Mirbekov.
:43:37. > :43:39.The first three going into the semifinal. From the heat, the two
:43:40. > :43:47.best crews went through so Brazil are safely in the final, they will
:43:48. > :43:52.both be in the centre lanes providing the stable conditions, as
:43:53. > :43:56.they do today. It was Germany qualifying straight through and
:43:57. > :44:00.Hungary went through in the semifinal. Brazil and Germany are
:44:01. > :44:05.already safely watching from their... Well, from the stands,
:44:06. > :44:06.perhaps. Now it is all about who can be the top three boats in this
:44:07. > :44:18.semifinal. Well, the first strokes are proving
:44:19. > :44:23.effective for Cuba. Australia losing two metres in the first 30, that is
:44:24. > :44:27.not a good start for them and they will have to keep that work rake up
:44:28. > :44:31.to get back on level terms with the leading boat. Good start from
:44:32. > :44:35.Uzbekistan. The camera angle makes it look like they are screaming
:44:36. > :44:41.ahead of the rest of the cruise but it is not a bad run. Uzbekistan of
:44:42. > :44:57.Cuba. On the far side, keep an eye on the black hole of Poland -- the
:44:58. > :45:00.black hull. Settling into their race on the outside, Uzbekistan, looking
:45:01. > :45:06.quite fast and working hard to stay in the race. The Australian pairing
:45:07. > :45:12.not quite able to find the pace they need. This is a tight race. The
:45:13. > :45:24.first three to go through. Poland at the moment sitting in third. Poland
:45:25. > :45:29.have Kaminski, he is a bronze-medallist in 2013, and behind
:45:30. > :45:36.him, Mikel Cutler, built like the proverbial block -- Kudla. Only 18,
:45:37. > :45:41.has he got enough of experienced race at this level? It is about
:45:42. > :45:45.using the experience you have got and putting it into play. You can
:45:46. > :45:50.speak to coaches and get experience but there is a limit, anyone who has
:45:51. > :45:54.been on the stage before will have more in the bag. Russia trying to
:45:55. > :45:57.pull back on Cuba. From the aerial shots, you see how the double canoes
:45:58. > :45:59.weave across the lanes because they are trying to keep the boats as
:46:00. > :46:11.straight as possible. Through the halfway stage. We're
:46:12. > :46:15.looking for a time around 3. 5 minutes, maybe a little longer. The
:46:16. > :46:19.wind has picked up. No lucky losers. That takes some of the luck out.
:46:20. > :46:23.It's all about finishing in the first three. It is still Poland in
:46:24. > :46:30.the danger position at the moment, on the near side, we've got
:46:31. > :46:36.Uzbekistan. The Australians have been left way behind. Finally the
:46:37. > :46:45.years have caught up with them. Cuba, Russia, one and two. They're
:46:46. > :46:49.safe at the moment. We may see Poland come back into this one in
:46:50. > :46:54.lane three. There's a shot of the Poles on the far side. I think it's
:46:55. > :47:01.between them and Uzbekistan. Up to the 750 mark. 250 to go. Uzbekistan
:47:02. > :47:05.starting to make a move. Starting to look very good indeed. Poland want
:47:06. > :47:09.to make it into this A final, they'll have to start making a move
:47:10. > :47:13.now. They're leaving it quite late, almost a boat length behind. I think
:47:14. > :47:18.they will have left themselves too much to do. Uzbekistan looking
:47:19. > :47:24.slower. Their stroke rate going down slightly. We see the Poles, in lane
:47:25. > :47:28.three, coming back, trying to get in that race. They have a boat length
:47:29. > :47:32.to go. They have just 100 metres to make up that time. There's no way
:47:33. > :47:35.that we're going to see Cuba lose this one. They're looking
:47:36. > :47:39.comfortable. Russia, perhaps, in danger. Poland is gaining on the
:47:40. > :47:43.Russians. Poland will have to do something very special in the
:47:44. > :47:47.closing stages. A sprint coming in from Cuba to secure the win here.
:47:48. > :47:50.It's Uzbekistan on the near side who've looked very good over the
:47:51. > :47:56.closing 250. They secure second. Russia in third and Poland are out.
:47:57. > :48:06.They go through to the B final. The leading three go through to the
:48:07. > :48:10.Olympic A final tomorrow morning. A well paced race from cubament they
:48:11. > :48:14.didn't -- Cuba. They didn't want to take any risks. They worked hard
:48:15. > :48:16.over the first 250. They settled nicely then they had something extra
:48:17. > :48:30.to give in the closing stages. Here come Australia. They will also go
:48:31. > :48:40.through to the B final. Martin Marinov, once upon a time Mr
:48:41. > :48:47.Bulgaria. Switched to Australian. Not often you have Mr Universe
:48:48. > :48:51.coming into the paddling arena. Interesting to see his comment for
:48:52. > :48:55.being here was he didn't feel that if Australian crews weren't good
:48:56. > :48:58.enough. We saw the start there. A good shot of the buckets. It looked
:48:59. > :49:02.as though the Australians tried to get away earlier. They're held up by
:49:03. > :49:06.the bucket and that's why they lost two metres in the first 20. Yeah, I
:49:07. > :49:10.mean, it's not going to help. But they were so far back, that you
:49:11. > :49:15.know, they didn't get the time right that. Shows that they've only been
:49:16. > :49:19.in a boat, first time they got in a boat together was to qualify to come
:49:20. > :49:23.here. It takes experience. Experience together. They both have
:49:24. > :49:27.to be very experienced paddlers, but they have to work together. It's all
:49:28. > :49:34.about the timing, understanding how you're going to move and having the
:49:35. > :49:36.calmness in the boats. I wasn't thinking in terms of Australia
:49:37. > :49:43.qualifying, but I was thinking in terms of what can go wrong and what
:49:44. > :49:48.might go wrong for some of the British badlers tomorrow -- paddlers
:49:49. > :49:52.tomorrow. Brazil, Germany the two teams that qualified from the heats
:49:53. > :49:56.earlier on today, they will be the favourites for the gold and silver
:49:57. > :50:00.tomorrow. STUDIO: We will bring that to you,
:50:01. > :50:03.what could be a bumper morning of finals in the canoe sprint. We've
:50:04. > :50:09.covered more miles than the road cyclists today going back and
:50:10. > :50:14.forward from Lagoa, to Diya corpso and we're going there again --
:50:15. > :50:18.Diadoro. It's #40 kilometres from where we are here. The equestrian
:50:19. > :50:22.centre is the focus of the individual jumping today. We've seen
:50:23. > :50:27.Nick Skelton go through clear. The clear round is really important,
:50:28. > :50:30.because the scores from this first round in the individual carry
:50:31. > :50:35.through to the final round. So not only is it important to get you
:50:36. > :50:37.through there, but it will count in the medals shake up later on. We've
:50:38. > :50:49.seen Nick go through. How the medals shake up later on. We've
:50:50. > :50:52.seen Nick go through. how did Ben Maher fare?
:50:53. > :51:00.COMMENTATOR: Gold last time for Ben, that was for the team. Now riding
:51:01. > :51:04.Jayne Clark's 13-year-old Tic Tac. Jayne Clark a tremendous owner for
:51:05. > :51:12.Ben. He of course, was at the top of the world rankings for a number of
:51:13. > :51:17.months. He's always got a top, top horse in his stable. Jayne very much
:51:18. > :51:19.responsible for that. Could Ben Maher equal that clear
:51:20. > :51:47.round of Nick Skelton's? Brilliantly ridden there by Ben.
:51:48. > :51:51.This stallion, 13 years old. Quite a new horse. They're looking at the
:51:52. > :51:53.water. Oh, I thought for a second they were going to flag him in. The
:51:54. > :52:07.flag stays down. Back rail going into the
:52:08. > :52:29.combination. Really can't afford another fence.
:52:30. > :52:43.Well ridden. Could be good enough to get him through into round B.
:52:44. > :52:47.Nothing to add the time table. Hasn't been riding this horse that
:52:48. > :52:52.long, but has formed a classy partnership no doubt about that. He
:52:53. > :52:59.was really unlucky, just clipped the back rail in the combination. Here
:53:00. > :53:03.we go. Didn't quite get up in the air over that fence. Super cool, Ben
:53:04. > :53:11.Maher. He's a proper championship rider. He kept it together. We'll
:53:12. > :53:15.see if that's good enough later on. There's a few competitors to go in
:53:16. > :53:20.the first round of the jumping. Breaking all known speed limits,
:53:21. > :53:25.we're back to Lagoa again and it's the semifinals of the women's K4.
:53:26. > :53:33.The British quartet go in the second of these. There's a final at stake
:53:34. > :53:36.here. COMMENTATOR: Six crews, 50% of them
:53:37. > :53:41.heading to the A final tomorrow. Ukraine should be safe. Kazakhstan,
:53:42. > :53:45.New Zealand will hope they are. Denmark certainly have a chance.
:53:46. > :53:49.Watch out for the Chinese. If they can stay strong through the finish,
:53:50. > :53:53.they have a chance. Just 500 metres. Half the distance that the men race
:53:54. > :53:57.in the K4. Good start from the Chinese. We've seen that time and
:53:58. > :54:02.time again. Denmark got off to a good start. Next to them in lane
:54:03. > :54:04.five, New Zealand looking good. Dedicated K4 crew, been training
:54:05. > :54:08.very hard, all together for this race. The crews on the near side
:54:09. > :54:12.going better. New Zealand are starting to establish a decent lead.
:54:13. > :54:21.They're looking very good. Slow stroke rate but it's long, and
:54:22. > :54:25.effective too. Denmark in the white hull and then Argentina, who have a
:54:26. > :54:28.chance of going through. Ukraine are starting to get strong on rt far
:54:29. > :54:33.side of -- on the far side of New Zealand. New Zealand leading.
:54:34. > :54:37.Denmark second, Ukraine in third. Very tight at the moment between
:54:38. > :54:41.Denmark and Ukraine. New Zealand crew at the front. Now we can see
:54:42. > :54:48.Ukraine coming through, just taking the lead from Denmark. Still New
:54:49. > :54:53.Zealand holding onto the lead here. They're looking comfortable. China
:54:54. > :54:56.starting to make a move. Kazakhstan getting left behind. Argentina are
:54:57. > :55:00.now being raced out of it. It's a question of whether China can get
:55:01. > :55:04.into the top three. They're gaining with every stroke they take. Denmark
:55:05. > :55:07.are the crew in dangerer. They need to be aware of what's going on on
:55:08. > :55:10.the far side. New Zealand are safe. You've crane in second at the
:55:11. > :55:14.moment. Denmark suddenly raise their game, up goes the stroke receipt
:55:15. > :55:18.from Denmark. I think that has -- stroke rate from Denmark that. Has
:55:19. > :55:21.done the damage from Chinese who started their charge a bit too
:55:22. > :55:25.early. New Zealand in one, Ukraine, two and Denmark hang on. But that
:55:26. > :55:32.will have had the Danish fans sweating, because China looked
:55:33. > :55:36.fantastic with 100 to go. Yeah, all about being aware do they know China
:55:37. > :55:39.were coming from the outside. They made the final push. Great
:55:40. > :55:43.performance from New Zealand. They dominated, took it out very hard,
:55:44. > :55:50.got the early lead and led it most of the way. Any reason Carrington
:55:51. > :55:57.doesn't race in the four? This is a dedicated team. They train together.
:55:58. > :56:00.I mean they've done very well out of Carrington's success because extra
:56:01. > :56:04.funding has come into the women's group. They've had more training and
:56:05. > :56:09.more coaching as a dedicated group of K4. It really shows they've spent
:56:10. > :56:14.a lot of time together. We've discussed, this K4 is all about the
:56:15. > :56:18.connection. You can have four great paddlers, if they don't connect
:56:19. > :56:25.together, they won't get the power output they need. From a distance,
:56:26. > :56:28.Jamie Lovatt looks a bit like Lisa Carrington. I know she's been
:56:29. > :56:34.misidentified on a number of occasions. So important that they
:56:35. > :56:37.actually benefit massively from Carrington's fame and her success
:56:38. > :56:44.over the years. But they look good as a crew. Really I guess the point
:56:45. > :56:47.you're making is you can throw four superstars in a K4 and it doesn't
:56:48. > :56:51.necessarily work. Once you have the connection, you have the feel, you
:56:52. > :56:54.know how you all paddle, you know the stroke rates you can achieve
:56:55. > :56:57.throughout the race, then you have a team. Yeah, certainly that is the
:56:58. > :57:00.case. Also, you know, from Carrington's perspective, it might
:57:01. > :57:04.be something she doesn't want to do. She may want to work and dedicate
:57:05. > :57:11.her time very much on her single boat. Lock how dominant she is.
:57:12. > :57:14.Unlike Cosack who seems to be do everything. Sometimes it takes the
:57:15. > :57:26.dedication to get the boats up and running that fast.
:57:27. > :57:37.So, just a few moments before the moment of truth for the women's K4
:57:38. > :57:42.Germany are in this semifinal, as are Poland and Serbia and can da.
:57:43. > :57:47.It's an incredibly tough semifinal. Great Britain goes in lane six.
:57:48. > :57:51.Walker at the front, Cawthorn in three, Simon in through Gurski the
:57:52. > :57:55.power at the back of the boat. They have to get a better start than in
:57:56. > :57:58.the heat if they want to qualify in the top three. They benefit from
:57:59. > :58:03.being in the second semi because they have more rest. I suspect
:58:04. > :58:07.looking at the line-up they would have wanted to be in semifinal
:58:08. > :58:10.number one. It's a far tougher semifinal here in number two. They
:58:11. > :58:14.will have to get out. They've got to stay on their game plan. They will
:58:15. > :58:17.know what the drawing is. They have to be in the top three. It's going
:58:18. > :58:21.to be tight, extremely tight. You talked about the New Zealand K4
:58:22. > :58:25.benefitting from Carrington's success. Will the British female
:58:26. > :58:34.paddlers benefit from the success that the men have had? The whole
:58:35. > :58:41.squad will. They need to have their own success within their group. This
:58:42. > :58:46.is their last chance. A semifinal of the Olympic K4 500 m. They have to
:58:47. > :58:55.get it right off the start. They're in lane six, second from this side,
:58:56. > :59:02.in the black hulled boat. Rachel Cawthorn, who's already raced in the
:59:03. > :59:08.K1. Top three essential if they want a place in the A final tomorrow.
:59:09. > :59:11.Watch the start. That looks better from the British four than they got
:59:12. > :59:15.in the heats. Still Germany edge ahead after the first ten metres.
:59:16. > :59:20.The pink boat of Germany once again streaming away down the course.
:59:21. > :59:24.Germany looking very good. Serbia on the inside of Great Britain in lane
:59:25. > :59:29.number seven, also looking not too bad. There we have it. The Poles
:59:30. > :59:32.looking strong. As well as Canada. It's going to be very tight. Great
:59:33. > :59:37.Britain up there at the moment. Germany leading the way in the
:59:38. > :59:40.middle of your picture. Serbia have gone well. Great Britain sandwiched
:59:41. > :59:43.between two teams that are performing well. Poland in lane
:59:44. > :59:47.four, just on the far side of Germany. Certainly they would expect
:59:48. > :59:50.to go through in the top three. France and Canada are the two teams
:59:51. > :59:54.at top. The French are already out of this. Canada certainly aren't.
:59:55. > :59:58.They're moving into second position now, ahead of Poland. It's still
:59:59. > :00:02.Germany who lead. Great Britain down in fourth. Remember, only the top
:00:03. > :00:06.three go through. Serbia starting to drop away after a good start. It's
:00:07. > :00:10.going to be between Great Britain and Poland for that final qualifying
:00:11. > :00:16.place. No doubt about it, Germany are going to go through. Now Britain
:00:17. > :00:21.start to raise their game. This is the first sign of what they can do.
:00:22. > :00:24.Looking good as they come into the last 100m, it's between Great
:00:25. > :00:29.Britain and Poland. Germany are secure. A last gasp from the
:00:30. > :00:35.Canadian team on the far side. They look strong. Nothing between third
:00:36. > :00:39.and fourth at the moment. Great Britain an advantage of six inches
:00:40. > :00:43.over the Poles. It's Germany who take the win. And Great Britain are
:00:44. > :00:49.through. They have an A final position! That was goal number one
:00:50. > :00:53.today. Now they can start to focus on the A final. That will give them
:00:54. > :00:58.a massive boost. They may not be in for the Gold Medal, but if they can
:00:59. > :01:01.do that and if they can race against Poland and race again Canada, who
:01:02. > :01:07.knows, a bronze medal might be a possibility.
:01:08. > :01:12.Steyn that is certainly where they would expect to be, a completely
:01:13. > :01:18.different crew to the ones we saw in the heats. Fantastic performance
:01:19. > :01:23.from the four of them, it will give them greater strength going into
:01:24. > :01:26.tomorrow's final. The winners of the second heat, Germany will go through
:01:27. > :01:32.to the final as favourites. New Zealand might argue, having won the
:01:33. > :01:38.first semifinal. Great Britain, with Jess Walker and Rachel Cawthorn, who
:01:39. > :01:43.struggled in the 200 and 500, didn't look good in the heat, we have now
:01:44. > :01:49.seen something from them and I think they will be excited.
:01:50. > :01:52.HAZEL IRVINE: And they should become a very strong performance,
:01:53. > :01:55.especially in the last 100m or so from the women and they are safely
:01:56. > :01:59.through. They got through to the London final and they were fifth and
:02:00. > :02:03.with Liam Heath, the fastest qualifier in his event the 200m, and
:02:04. > :02:07.with Brazilian superstars through to their final as well, straight
:02:08. > :02:11.through, there is going to be an awful lot to look forward to when we
:02:12. > :02:15.go back there to Lagoa tomorrow afternoon for the last of the
:02:16. > :02:21.finals. We have been concentrating on events in the equestrian
:02:22. > :02:24.programme, the last event in the inquest equestrian programme, the
:02:25. > :02:28.individual show-jumping. Nick Skelton has gone straight through to
:02:29. > :02:33.the medal jump of later today, the last 20 going through. Ben Maher,
:02:34. > :02:37.four penalties for him after one fence down and we will check on some
:02:38. > :02:46.of the other key competitors. Back we go to Ian and Mike.
:02:47. > :02:58.The second of the Australians, Topps Alexander. Lindsay a tequila. --
:02:59. > :03:03.Tops-Alexander. Ranked 14 in the world. There won't be so many who
:03:04. > :03:10.have ridden so many big jumping horses. She has made some very big
:03:11. > :03:16.partnerships. She has made fourth in a World Championships, in Aachen.
:03:17. > :03:29.She had a lovely horse Allsop and this is another class animal. You
:03:30. > :03:40.are quite correct. Edwina has so many top-class horses to ride. They
:03:41. > :03:44.are all found by her husband, Jan Tops. He finds some of the best you
:03:45. > :03:51.will see and a lot of them go to the Qatari riders. This does suit
:03:52. > :03:58.Edwina's style of riding, a fantastic athlete. Nice active
:03:59. > :04:12.buzzing way of going that really suits Edwina's riding.
:04:13. > :04:19.Total athletic ability down the combination.
:04:20. > :04:26.Just adds up an extra stride, but you can see a little horse with a
:04:27. > :04:31.massive amount of scope. The horses get a bit stronger at this point of
:04:32. > :04:39.the course. She is going to have to fight to get some balance.
:04:40. > :04:49.Third Olympic Games, is it going to be her best. She gives us clear run
:04:50. > :04:55.number two. 14 Great Britain, big -- Big Star and Nick Skelton and the
:04:56. > :04:59.next, Australia's Tops-Alexander with Lintea Tequila. Fantastic
:05:00. > :05:05.round, look at this horse, total athlete, things up into the air,
:05:06. > :05:08.tries over every single fence, and so neat. So a second clear round for
:05:09. > :05:29.Australia. The Netherlands, the man who won
:05:30. > :05:35.Olympic gold individually in Sydney Dubbeldam. But he will have another
:05:36. > :05:40.thing on his mind, probably before he went to bed last night. There
:05:41. > :05:45.aren't many people who have held at one time world, European and Olympic
:05:46. > :05:51.title. He has got two of them, he has got the and the European and he
:05:52. > :05:56.did this on the very good horse produced in Britain, Zenith, a
:05:57. > :05:59.12-year-old. Here is another great horse master, this horse has not
:06:00. > :06:07.looked spectacular this summer until this last week. Hasn't jumped a
:06:08. > :06:15.clear round every time, but he has certainly shown they are pretty well
:06:16. > :06:20.on song. Of one thing for sure about Zenith, he is totally brave. He has
:06:21. > :06:25.got all the scope in the world. He's quite a sharp horse. Sometimes he
:06:26. > :06:29.can have the odd fence he shouldn't really have, but we have talked
:06:30. > :06:32.about this man so many times over the years. He is the ultimate
:06:33. > :06:40.championship, cool, professional rider. He seems to love the pressure
:06:41. > :06:52.of these occasions more than any other rider out there.
:06:53. > :07:07.Safely round the course so far and he has got massive scope, you see
:07:08. > :07:12.there. He has done it. The elite are gathering up, no doubt about it. The
:07:13. > :07:21.world and European champion puts himself in line for the second round
:07:22. > :07:25.in the individual. Well, it is no surprise to see Jeroen Dubbledam
:07:26. > :07:30.coming good. He hasn't jumped that many tears. He has had the odd fence
:07:31. > :07:36.but when it really mattered there, he produced the goods -- jumped that
:07:37. > :07:39.many clears. He is always perfect in his striding and balance and rhythm.
:07:40. > :07:49.Absolutely copybook all the way round.
:07:50. > :08:04.24-year-old Martin Fuchs with this Valinski grey Clooney. Only 24 years
:08:05. > :08:09.old, an outstanding young rider, won the Young European title, landed in
:08:10. > :08:14.the senior ranks and landed in full cry. Got some great results. Looked
:08:15. > :08:21.like a real potential winner of this year's Aachen Grand Prix but he does
:08:22. > :08:25.every now and again look for outs, looks for options to down tools and
:08:26. > :08:28.he did that in the Aachen Grand Prix. Threatened to do it here but
:08:29. > :08:42.he has got through to this final day. Clooney, Martin Fuchs. To land.
:08:43. > :08:46.If you watch Clooney go around, sometimes he gets a bit of lockjaw
:08:47. > :08:50.and decides he might disappear into the opposite direction of where he
:08:51. > :09:02.might go. He is a phenomenally talented horse. Talking about the
:09:03. > :09:06.Swiss team, really hard luck. Springer was qualified to jump and
:09:07. > :09:12.the Swiss had to make a tough decision as to which rider to leave
:09:13. > :09:20.out. That was a hard call to make. Possibly could say with Romain
:09:21. > :09:36.Duguet having 12 faults, it was a bad decision, but it has been made.
:09:37. > :09:43.Just looking as though we weren't going to get too many clears but
:09:44. > :09:48.they are starting to come now. Is this another one? Takes the forward
:09:49. > :09:58.stride, needs to balance. Three clear rounds out of the last four.
:09:59. > :10:07.Clooney, part of the Fuchs dynasty. They have been at the top of Swiss
:10:08. > :10:13.show-jumping for some time and that makes it three clear rounds.
:10:14. > :10:22.Fantastic round from Martin Fuchs and the interesting thing, probably
:10:23. > :10:27.getting one or two more clears at this stage that he wanted, the
:10:28. > :10:33.course builder. What will he built for the next one? One thing is for
:10:34. > :10:39.certain, it will be big. It will have to be tough again otherwise we
:10:40. > :10:44.will have a lot of horses jumping off. Could be excited. The third and
:10:45. > :10:49.final rider for the Swiss coming up and it is the Olympic gold-medallist
:10:50. > :11:03.of London Steve Guerra that and the fabulous, quite small, Nino
:11:04. > :11:09.Dubuisson it. -- Nino des Dubuissonets. He has won a lot of
:11:10. > :11:17.competitions. Nino has been saved for this. Now 15 years old, one of
:11:18. > :11:20.the very best in the world and he has a team of horses which has meant
:11:21. > :11:25.this horse has been saved for this occasion.
:11:26. > :11:34.Show-jumping evolving now onto an amazing level where you build a
:11:35. > :11:37.course that looks so difficult and we are getting one or two clear
:11:38. > :11:42.rounds, more than we might have expected already. You just wonder
:11:43. > :11:57.whether sport is going already, with the level of difficulty that we have
:11:58. > :12:06.already got. Brilliantly well bred, horses now are just operating on a
:12:07. > :12:10.completely different level. This man's father, team manager for the
:12:11. > :12:17.French. They one team gold. On the end of that team jumping, there must
:12:18. > :12:23.have been some thoughts within the team family.
:12:24. > :12:35.So the reigning champion from London. Just want to go. He has
:12:36. > :12:40.nailed it. They very nearly didn't get through the first inspection.
:12:41. > :12:46.Nino was held and brought back. Didn't look at their best, one has
:12:47. > :12:51.to say, but they are in here still and they are looking to retain their
:12:52. > :12:58.title, clear round number 52 Switzerland. Nino des Dubuissonets
:12:59. > :13:04.tries his heart out over every fence. A moment of hesitation --
:13:05. > :13:08.Momen's hesitation coming out of the box, but he knows what to do with
:13:09. > :13:15.his legs to make sure he doesn't have a fence. So the reigning
:13:16. > :13:24.champion is through. Canada's Tiffany Foster. Yes, this is Tripple
:13:25. > :13:30.X, ridden brilliantly to team gold in London but then of course was
:13:31. > :13:40.sold to Canada and Tiffany has a really good partnership with this
:13:41. > :13:47.horse. She has been very consistent right through the Olympic Games
:13:48. > :13:51.rounds. These two really do get on. Tiffany Wright is Tripple X with a
:13:52. > :13:57.lot of pace, a lot of confidence, allows him to run and jump. In the
:13:58. > :14:02.jump off for the bronze medal, she was absolutely flying around --
:14:03. > :14:06.Tiffani rides. The riders and the horses that jumped off for that
:14:07. > :14:07.bronze medal had had a bit more taken out of them than some of the
:14:08. > :14:19.other competitors. This is the last before the first
:14:20. > :14:28.morning break on this individual day.
:14:29. > :14:36.Getting a lot of height, Tripple X, down the combination.
:14:37. > :14:45.Really firing it. That was a horrible moment, I thought Tripple X
:14:46. > :14:53.was going to paddle that oxer. No problems there.
:14:54. > :15:07.Just that last fence. That was hard luck. Rides for the Erik Lamela is
:15:08. > :15:11.stadium -- Eric Lamaze. And Eric Lamaze will be the very last of the
:15:12. > :15:17.35 to come in this last round. I think she will be back but has that
:15:18. > :15:21.last fence down. We had that horrible moment at friends nine,
:15:22. > :15:29.Tripple X looked like it was going to bank the oxer and then just
:15:30. > :15:32.nailed the next oxer perfectly and a horrible last fence. That rustic
:15:33. > :15:36.rail doesn't really set itself up against the background.
:15:37. > :15:41.35 started this individual showjumping and we have 17 to go.
:15:42. > :15:46.We've caught them up. We're about to go live there now to see who can go
:15:47. > :15:50.through. We've seen that Nick Skelton definitely through on Big
:15:51. > :15:59.Star. Ben Maher, four penalties, looking good. Back we go to Ian and
:16:00. > :16:03.Mike for 17 more to go, guys? 23-year-old Lucy Davis, in the
:16:04. > :16:12.bronze medal team in the worlds when the Americans were right in the mix
:16:13. > :16:20.that produced that exciting finish. The Dutch won. They really missed
:16:21. > :16:26.out here. Barron, the horse. A big winner on the Grand Prix circuit in
:16:27. > :16:31.the United States. A 12-year-old. We've been talking about Cornet
:16:32. > :16:37.Obolensky as being an outstanding stallion. For Pleasure was another.
:16:38. > :16:42.Ridden to gold in Sydney. The United States of America then, Lucy Davis.
:16:43. > :16:46.We've got five clear, one on one time fault and five on four. We're
:16:47. > :16:59.looking for 20 to the second round of the individual.
:17:00. > :17:06.That's a strange one. Nice, left five strides up to the third fence.
:17:07. > :17:14.Just flicked it off with the front legs on the back rail. Oh, and miss
:17:15. > :17:20.to the water. We haven't seen too many problems at the water that. Was
:17:21. > :17:25.a dreadful miss there. She got her striding all wrong. Barron didn't
:17:26. > :17:31.know whether to pick up or what to do, jumped straight in the middle of
:17:32. > :17:34.it. It's a great shame. He's been jumping brilliantly this week.
:17:35. > :17:41.Whether she'll continue with the whole course, she's already on the
:17:42. > :17:45.12 faults as you can see. We're expecting that it's going to be
:17:46. > :17:54.clears and possibly four faults that will make it to the top 20. America
:17:55. > :18:00.won that team silver behind the French. They're in high spirits. But
:18:01. > :18:06.that's a bit a disappointing round for their first of three in this
:18:07. > :18:11.final for showjumping. Total of 12. They were inside the time allowed of
:18:12. > :18:16.80 seconds. The time hasn't been a problem.
:18:17. > :18:20.There's those front legs on that back rail at fence three. Then
:18:21. > :18:26.coming to the water, on the wrong stride. Nothing that Barron could do
:18:27. > :18:29.about. It that's a great shame for Lucy. She's had a good week
:18:30. > :18:46.competing here. It's all gone wrong today.
:18:47. > :18:53.Spain's Sergio Alvarez Moya. Karl yo, a horse that Nick Skelton won a
:18:54. > :18:57.team bronze, that was in the European Championship of 2011, down
:18:58. > :19:00.in Madrid. This man jumped right up the world
:19:01. > :19:06.rankings, particularly with the form of this horse. This is his star
:19:07. > :19:11.performer. If you think back, Karlo was a horse that was being
:19:12. > :19:16.considered by Nick Skelton as one of his two possible Olympic rides. Had
:19:17. > :19:23.echose Big Star. That was the right decision. -- he chose Big Star. Most
:19:24. > :19:31.of the horses here between the age of ten and 16. This one is 15.
:19:32. > :19:35.Getting towards the end of his top international career. One of those
:19:36. > :19:39.horses with a lot of energy. He really does try. Great combination
:19:40. > :19:47.these two. Not the biggest horse. He's got a very big heart.
:19:48. > :19:54.That water jump, though we saw Lucy Davis going in it, it has jumped
:19:55. > :19:57.quite well today. They've put a different type of filler at the
:19:58. > :20:05.front of the jump just to get the horses into the air a bit more.
:20:06. > :20:16.Combination, been jumping pretty well so far.
:20:17. > :20:30.Look out for the short distance, the four strides to the last fence.
:20:31. > :20:42.Beautifully ridden. Make it six now for those clear rounds. They'll
:20:43. > :20:45.carry ound to round B and if you're just joining us, those equal of
:20:46. > :20:50.round B would go into a jump-off for medals.
:20:51. > :20:57.Just great to watch Carlo jump. Never stops trying. Always got his
:20:58. > :21:06.ears pricked. Stretches out over that big oxer there. Look at him
:21:07. > :21:12.tuck his front legs up. Hot out there. Yes, ice creams and lollies
:21:13. > :21:34.certainly on today. Sheikh Ali Al Thani, an 11-year-old
:21:35. > :21:39.horse. Already done two World Championships sheikh Ali. He's 33
:21:40. > :21:45.years old. Family steeped in the great tradition in the horse world,
:21:46. > :21:47.great racing family. This, a man that's been predicted to do very
:21:48. > :22:14.well for Qatar. This horse really caught the eye
:22:15. > :22:19.during every round so far. What I love about this horse is so
:22:20. > :22:24.rideable, such a great temperament. At this level, any of the horses
:22:25. > :22:31.that are a bit unruly, the course is so technical, it does make a
:22:32. > :22:54.difference. Snvm Short coming out of the combination.
:22:55. > :23:07.Another one through. Yes, joy in the Qatari camp. We're going to get
:23:08. > :23:14.quite a lot of clear rounds here. We're already up to seven. The way
:23:15. > :23:19.this is looking, you might have to go clear just to get in the next
:23:20. > :23:25.round. I doubt we'll get 20 clears, but you never know. Fantastic clear
:23:26. > :23:31.round from First Devision. Sheikh Ali Al Thani giving the horse a
:23:32. > :23:35.lovely ride all the way. Great shots of the horse, getting up in the air,
:23:36. > :23:42.staying there, finishing the jump off. Everything you want a horse to
:23:43. > :23:50.do. An absolute feast of jumping we're witnessing here. Very happy
:23:51. > :23:59.jockey there. Now France. France have had a great
:24:00. > :24:06.Games, team Gold Medallists and showjumping team Gold Medallists.
:24:07. > :24:09.They came here with high hopes. They immediately lost Brian, the world
:24:10. > :24:18.number one, rides for France. This man came in as a substitute. And
:24:19. > :24:25.what a substitute he's been on this great horse Rahotep de Toscane. His
:24:26. > :24:30.father rode for France in two Olympic Games. This man has put his
:24:31. > :24:36.name up in lights. He's a key part of the French Gold Medal. Can he now
:24:37. > :24:41.push for an individual? Possibly not, just landed short on the water.
:24:42. > :24:49.That was a shame. Seemed to have the stride absolutely spot on.
:24:50. > :25:04.He came in as reserve rider, but he's performed really well this
:25:05. > :25:08.week. Yes, the French rider who's missed out is reportedly not been
:25:09. > :25:13.100% all week. In the end of the day, it may not have been that
:25:14. > :25:17.difficult a choice for the team manager.
:25:18. > :25:28.What a shame, just the water tape. Not sure whether we'll see it again,
:25:29. > :25:32.but it was very, very close. Just an odd millimetre or two that they
:25:33. > :25:40.touched that tape. Here's the replay. Just look and yeah, clearly
:25:41. > :26:16.in, one leg dropping back. Well, the Germans got bronze and
:26:17. > :26:27.this lady was part of. It Hot favourites to get the gold. It
:26:28. > :26:32.hasn't happened. Meredith, American born, married Marcus and has been
:26:33. > :26:37.part of their top sport for many years. This is a horse with such a
:26:38. > :26:43.big jump. Jump the moon this horse, if any horse
:26:44. > :26:47.comfort This, the first of the German riders that we've seen. There
:26:48. > :27:00.are three to come. Can you believe it? Well some drama
:27:01. > :27:04.here. Whether it's pressure or what's going on. But Meredith
:27:05. > :27:13.completely got her stride wrong at the first fence.
:27:14. > :27:17.These riders are under incredible pressure. And Meredith says that's
:27:18. > :27:24.enough for me. She's retired. When a shame. We were so looking forward to
:27:25. > :27:27.watching Fibonacci jump. Absolutely heartbroken there. That's an
:27:28. > :27:35.extraordinary mistake to see at this level of riding. It can happen to
:27:36. > :27:39.anyone. We all do it. She knows. Interesting because if she could
:27:40. > :27:44.have buckled down and gone on, she might have got in on a four. That's
:27:45. > :27:49.a shocking thing to happen. It's a horrible moment. I think for
:27:50. > :27:57.Meredith there, she felt it was all over in terms of her concentration,
:27:58. > :28:01.her balance and rhythm. It shows you in showjumping, everything and
:28:02. > :28:08.anything can happen. It's such a horrible moment. She did really well
:28:09. > :28:13.to stay on board. Definitely. Crying, crying shame, Fibonacci, so
:28:14. > :28:17.many fans worldwide. One of the most extraordinary horses to watch
:28:18. > :28:27.jumping, out of the competition. Hark at the crowd, look at the flags
:28:28. > :28:33.and you'll know who's coming next. They've had great receptions here.
:28:34. > :28:42.Pedro Veniss, a man very well known in Europe, riding Quabri de L' isle.
:28:43. > :28:46.You're tending to think that eight may not get in, particularly if
:28:47. > :28:49.we've got more clear rounds with the big names still to come with this
:28:50. > :28:57.reverse Order of Merit. Seven clears. Five on four and there's one
:28:58. > :29:04.on one time fault as well. That is up to 13 of the 20 that can qualify.
:29:05. > :29:41.Pedro Veniss for Brazil. Quabri de L'isle, this horse
:29:42. > :29:48.impressed us with his technique, athletic ability, so far Pedro very
:29:49. > :29:53.stylish. He's had a tricky stride. Lost his rhythm into the water. Just
:29:54. > :29:58.a few nervy mistakes creeping in with the riders. They're under
:29:59. > :30:03.intense pressure. This competition, it's just as much about the rider's
:30:04. > :30:13.temperament as it is about the horse's jumping ability. Gasps from
:30:14. > :30:15.the crowd. They love their showjumping this week. Still got one
:30:16. > :30:23.more Brazilian rider to come. They still have one Brazilian
:30:24. > :30:43.show-jumper to come. The very experienced de Mirando. It
:30:44. > :30:51.is another one. That makes seven. I still think the fours will get in.
:30:52. > :30:56.George Morris, he has been there inspiration this week. The American
:30:57. > :31:00.trainer at London. The problem is getting into the next round with a
:31:01. > :31:06.number of clears that we have got and the quality of competitors,
:31:07. > :31:12.whether four faults will be competitive to get a medal is
:31:13. > :31:15.another thing. Very fair comment. It is not just about getting into the
:31:16. > :31:29.next round because they are going to add those two rounds together.
:31:30. > :31:35.A lot of young people in this stadium today. So good to see. I
:31:36. > :31:56.wonder how many they will inspire for the future of the support. For
:31:57. > :31:56.Qatar, with Gunder, it is Al Rumaih Ali.
:31:57. > :32:09.The has a good individual record, he won silver in the pan Arabic Games
:32:10. > :32:11.in 2007. Number 24 to go of 35 in this first round of two individual
:32:12. > :32:22.rounds. Amazing to watch Gunder go around,
:32:23. > :32:30.he is an enormous horse, ten-year-old gilding. The
:32:31. > :32:36.interesting thing is Al Rumaihi Ali doesn't really worry about getting
:32:37. > :32:41.inside the time, but this time is a bit more generous. So it will be
:32:42. > :32:47.interesting to see whether he can do that today. You can see the power of
:32:48. > :32:59.this horse over the water. Enormous leap there.
:33:00. > :33:04.Although it is looking like clear rounds are the only thing that are
:33:05. > :33:10.going to get you a medal, we have enough clears, you have got to get
:33:11. > :33:16.inside the time. Every four seconds over the time, you get one time
:33:17. > :33:23.fault. We have spoken much about the time, but it is 80 seconds and he is
:33:24. > :33:28.going to be very close to it. We have got the one on one time fault,
:33:29. > :33:48.that is Alba rucking. -- Alba . It is easy to forget the Saudi
:33:49. > :33:52.Arabians won the bronze medal in the team in London. It just shows you
:33:53. > :33:57.how the Arab team have come to the fore in show-jumping. That was a
:33:58. > :34:07.desperately unlucky fence. Last big vertical. Just caught it in front.
:34:08. > :34:11.You can see what it means to all of the supporters and the team members.
:34:12. > :34:22.That was a really hard luck fence to have. But the Qataris have one clear
:34:23. > :34:37.round so far. Here is one to be reckoned with, Germany's Christian
:34:38. > :34:43.Ahlmann. He has been the world's no-one and this is his fourth
:34:44. > :34:48.Olympic Games. Just got one bronze medal to his credit, out in Athens,
:34:49. > :34:52.but at their best, this partnership could easily be in contention for
:34:53. > :35:04.one of those three individual medals.
:35:05. > :35:10.All these riders have very distinctive styles. Christian
:35:11. > :35:19.Ahlmann with the long rains, very tall man, sits very upright in the
:35:20. > :35:26.saddle. Taloubet, 16 now and in this heat, is he going to have the jump
:35:27. > :35:28.that we have always come to expect from him? He is a fantastically
:35:29. > :35:49.efficient, effective jumping horse. Interesting in the team competition,
:35:50. > :35:56.the Germans were way out in front and then nonobvious, Christian
:35:57. > :36:09.Ahlmann included, could jump, but he is looking good here. Christian
:36:10. > :36:23.Ahlmann cruises through on a horse his late father-in-law was
:36:24. > :36:28.responsible for breeding. Married to a world-class show-jumper. This is
:36:29. > :36:33.the round we expect from Taloubet. Big horse, but very, very neat.
:36:34. > :36:37.Knows whether polls are, tucks his legs up. -- he knows where the Poles
:36:38. > :36:52.are. Immaculate technique. Totally understand Andy's thoughts
:36:53. > :36:58.about those four going forward. Eight now are clear and eight on
:36:59. > :37:03.four and one with one time fault. I think the chances of the eight
:37:04. > :37:10.jumping again are unlikely. Now France's superstar, with now and
:37:11. > :37:17.Olympic gold to his credit. Former Olympic champion, it is Kevin Staut
:37:18. > :37:29.with Reveur de Hurtebise. France did jump quite brilliantly in that final
:37:30. > :37:34.jump team day to win gold. And this, a man who has huge class and a horse
:37:35. > :37:42.here that has taken him to the world's no-one on several different
:37:43. > :37:52.occasions. -- number one. It is all about contrast things styles, after
:37:53. > :37:57.the upright seat of Ahlmann, very light in his seat. Using a bit too
:37:58. > :38:01.much pace. That one has gone. We haven't had too many problems with
:38:02. > :38:04.the style. I think anyone looking to win the gold medal has got to jump
:38:05. > :38:29.clear in this round, we have got too many of them.
:38:30. > :38:41.Good round, but one is going to be expected if medals are required.
:38:42. > :38:56.Total four for the Frenchman Kevin Staut. Down to the last nine now and
:38:57. > :39:00.one more to come for France and that is Roger Yves Bost. Just another
:39:01. > :39:01.hard luck story there. Just a bit forward, that big vertical after the
:39:02. > :39:25.water. United States of America, the first
:39:26. > :39:39.of the double gold-medallists' effort to make it three, McLain Ward
:39:40. > :39:44.with Azur. They have looked in good enough form to go all the way. They
:39:45. > :39:53.played a big part in that team medal, the silver medal, and this is
:39:54. > :39:56.a man who had the wonderful horse Sapphire, who took into those two
:39:57. > :40:01.Olympic golds. Plassey rider, very good on the big occasion. One of
:40:02. > :40:10.those that grows taller when it really matters -- Plassey rider.
:40:11. > :40:21.McLain Ward, then, and the talented Azur. Definitely before these
:40:22. > :40:22.championships started here at the Olympics, everyone was tipping this
:40:23. > :40:33.combination for the gold medal. I want to see horse jump with
:40:34. > :40:37.extravagant style and incredible and power -- if you want to, keep your
:40:38. > :40:53.eyes on this one. McLain Ward is a total
:40:54. > :41:01.perfectionist, the way he sits on his horse. And he has had at fence.
:41:02. > :41:08.There is another bit of drama for you, one of the big favourites going
:41:09. > :41:13.out. This is a horse with incredible power, just didn't back up and stay
:41:14. > :41:20.careful coming out of the combination. It won't matter now,
:41:21. > :41:25.but was so good against the clock. Show-jumping, famously difficult to
:41:26. > :41:32.predict and yet again, one of the favourites faltering.
:41:33. > :41:39.CHEERING . The Americans would want to come
:41:40. > :41:42.and that is Kent Farrington. He is another one who could well keep the
:41:43. > :41:56.American flag flying. Just having a few more looks at Azur
:41:57. > :42:01.jumping. That is a great shame for the American team. They really
:42:02. > :42:07.thought Azur could come here and win the individual gold medal.
:42:08. > :42:14.Well, the cheers weren't for McLain Ward, they are for the next in, the
:42:15. > :42:32.great Albar Doda De Miranda. My man with two bronze medals, in Atlanta
:42:33. > :42:37.and in Sydney. A big part of the Brazilian team in those days.
:42:38. > :42:42.Roderigo disappointed to be a reserve rider here, but this man,
:42:43. > :42:46.could he give the clear round the crowd would love to keep Brazil in
:42:47. > :42:52.with a chance of an individual medal?
:42:53. > :43:04.This is a brilliant horse to watch, ten years old, not the typical grey
:43:05. > :43:12.that we associate with Cornet Obolensky. Immaculate technique,
:43:13. > :43:18.immaculate style. That has gone. The Brazilians not having the day they
:43:19. > :43:20.wanted. Just nerves and pressure creeping in here. Some of the big
:43:21. > :43:46.names having the odd silly fence. The foot faults -- the full suck at
:43:47. > :44:00.all different fences. But no problems there. -- the faults have
:44:01. > :44:08.all come at different fences. Pedro Veniss had four and now Doda De
:44:09. > :44:12.Miranda has had new merit for. Speak -- had four. For any British fans
:44:13. > :44:17.watching, Nick Skelton got his clear round. Any time one of these
:44:18. > :44:23.combinations hits a poll, that helps his cause. But we still have a good
:44:24. > :44:43.number of clears. We have, eight of them. One time fault for the
:44:44. > :44:47.Argentine mal virus. -- for the Argentine. It is not going to be
:44:48. > :44:53.more than four. And in comes the last challenge for the Germans in
:44:54. > :45:00.this first round. Any equality after the first two rounds and we go to
:45:01. > :45:05.jump off. I think the odds on that happening are very low. A total of
:45:06. > :45:14.20 riders going through to that second individual round. 35-year-old
:45:15. > :45:24.Daniel Deusser, riding First Class. This is a man who has already had
:45:25. > :45:31.some great victories, eighth in the worlds. He has won the cup finals,
:45:32. > :45:33.he writes for the all conquering stables from Belgium -- he rides. It
:45:34. > :46:20.is his Olympic debut. Incredibly powerful horse. You can
:46:21. > :46:27.see there, Daniel Deusser had to sit up. A great technician. Not the
:46:28. > :46:33.easiest horse to ride, because he is so long. Towards the end of the
:46:34. > :46:35.course, you'll see a lot of upper body strength from Daniel to try and
:46:36. > :46:53.hold him together. Throes his back legs up behind him
:46:54. > :46:59.-- throws. Brilliantly ridden by Daniel Deusser to keep him together.
:47:00. > :47:15.Germ any already with one clear round from Christian Ahlmann. Is it
:47:16. > :47:20.going to be two? Yerm any really looking to amend for not getting
:47:21. > :47:26.gold. They did get the bronze. But they expected gold. Is it going to
:47:27. > :47:31.be today for the Germans? What an incredible piece of riding from this
:47:32. > :47:36.top, top professional, Daniel Deusser. A horse with incredible
:47:37. > :47:41.ability, had a little bit of a tricky moment there, at the double.
:47:42. > :47:48.Holding his horse together, between hands and legs. Using his upper
:47:49. > :48:06.body. Germans now with two clear rounds.
:48:07. > :48:21.We've got six left to jump in round A of the individual. The next jumped
:48:22. > :48:24.in Germany for many years, Rene Tebbel, here representing Ukraine,
:48:25. > :48:27.three times national champion in Germany. Couldn't get the
:48:28. > :48:36.recognition he expected internationally. So he chose to
:48:37. > :48:43.accept the invitation to ride for the Ukraine. Just the one rider
:48:44. > :48:47.through for them. This is a horse that really impressed. He's a man
:48:48. > :48:58.would won the King George trophy at hoik stead.
:48:59. > :49:01.-- at Hickstead. Certainly plenty of experience. There's
:49:02. > :49:21.Rene Tebbel knocking up the clear rounds this week with this big,
:49:22. > :49:28.powerful jumper. He can get quite strong. Tebbel does a great job of
:49:29. > :49:46.holding him in balance all the way round.
:49:47. > :49:52.Certainly this course is proving to be perhaps a little bit easier, one
:49:53. > :49:59.or two more clear rounds than we might have expected. So we're going
:50:00. > :50:04.to have to ramp it up in the next round to sort out these final
:50:05. > :50:09.riders, whether we're going to have a jump-off or not remains to be
:50:10. > :50:14.seen. We've got another clear. Oh, he's over the time, just. The second
:50:15. > :50:22.one with a time fault. The other one was the Argentinian. The interesting
:50:23. > :50:26.thing about that one time fault, it could be very, very influential in
:50:27. > :50:32.final placings. Definitely. With so many clear rounds, that time fault
:50:33. > :50:37.is so expensive. Really round this track, you'd say unnecessary. That's
:50:38. > :50:47.a great shame. For Rene Tebbel. He's jumped so well all the way through
:50:48. > :50:49.this week. I would think he'd be very happy that he'd changed his
:50:50. > :51:17.country to Ukraine. A man here who made his debut 20
:51:18. > :51:23.years ago in an Olympic Games. It is the great Bosty, Roger Yves Bost,
:51:24. > :51:28.European champion in 2013. He's had a lot of changes of horse power,
:51:29. > :51:38.horses retired and some no longer available for him to ride. But he
:51:39. > :51:49.still maintains his form. It is Sydney Une Prince that Bosty rides.
:51:50. > :51:54.Again Roger pulled out all the stops. I think his round was
:51:55. > :52:01.probably the most crucial round of all for that Gold Medal for France.
:52:02. > :52:05.It wasn't only the most crucial, it was the most entertaining to watch,
:52:06. > :52:11.because those of you who have been watching this week and in the past
:52:12. > :52:16.will know that Bosty as we call him, is a totally unique horseman.
:52:17. > :52:23.Sometimes he looks untidy, but what he does, he gets his horses to try
:52:24. > :52:34.so hard for him. He's such a big winner all over the world. The
:52:35. > :52:38.flying Frenchman, Bosty. Watch him picking his horse up, throws his
:52:39. > :52:47.body about, but he's clear again through the combination.
:52:48. > :53:00.Just gets a bit erratic, untidy. He's hanging in.
:53:01. > :53:17.Come on, Bosty. The last fence. He's done it. France have got another
:53:18. > :53:27.through. The great Roger Yves Bost. He keeps his chances of an Olympic
:53:28. > :53:31.individual medal alive. Bosty there, such a lovely guy. The horses jump
:53:32. > :53:35.for him, try their heart out. He's ridden so many different horses over
:53:36. > :53:39.the years. They all win for him and jump brilliantly. Look at that shot
:53:40. > :53:49.over the water tray! Quite extraordinary. A style all of his
:53:50. > :53:56.own. The task to win medals gets stronger and stronger. There is
:53:57. > :54:04.Rozzier, a man who started as the reserve rider. But he's been in
:54:05. > :54:08.this. He had one down. Kevin Stout, he had one down. That is good news
:54:09. > :54:18.for France with Roger Yves Bost staying clear. Another American
:54:19. > :54:22.rider who many think could be an Olympic medal winner, could even be
:54:23. > :54:26.gold. They got through to a jump-off against the clock, there would be a
:54:27. > :54:32.lot of people's money going on this man, Kent Farrington, 35 years old,
:54:33. > :54:41.on this horse, Voyeur. They were part of the Silver Medal team for
:54:42. > :54:48.the worlds. Now what can Kent Farrington do?
:54:49. > :54:53.I think this day's competition now is all down to the course builder.
:54:54. > :54:57.He's going to have to do something extraordinary to separate all these
:54:58. > :55:01.clear rounds in the next round, otherwise we really are going to be
:55:02. > :55:05.in for some kind a jump-off. Maybe that's what the crowd want to see.
:55:06. > :55:12.Quite often it is just purely jumping. The way this is looking, we
:55:13. > :55:14.could be seeing these world class riders galloping flat out over
:55:15. > :55:27.massive Over massive jumps later today. In
:55:28. > :55:38.this man gets in a jump-off, he's a flying machine. The horse loves the
:55:39. > :55:44.big arenas. Those of you who saw the Grand Prix at the royal Windsor
:55:45. > :55:46.horse show in May will have seen this man win the big Bahrain trophy
:55:47. > :56:02.for that Grand Prix. It's OK. Easy peesy. Kent Farrington
:56:03. > :56:11.cruises through to the next round on a clear. We've got 11 clear rounds,
:56:12. > :56:15.two on the one time fault and it looks as if the four faults, all of
:56:16. > :56:25.them will go through. That would give us more than 20. Really
:56:26. > :56:33.effective round there. Just one touch, second to last fence. There
:56:34. > :56:39.he is, neat as a pin over the last. Three to come. Peder Fredricson for
:56:40. > :56:41.Sweden, Maikel Van der Vleuten for the Dutch and Eric Lamaze the last
:56:42. > :56:52.for Canada. They could -- they could all go clear.
:56:53. > :57:03.Peder first. Sweden got through to the final, eight teams in that final
:57:04. > :57:14.leg. That on Wednesday. Now can he give Sweden a glimmer of hope of a
:57:15. > :57:21.medal? Sweden, at the moment, Von Echermann had two down for Sweden.
:57:22. > :57:30.Peder Fredricson the only other representative for Sweden.
:57:31. > :57:36.So far, in every round, All In hasn't put a foot wrong. He's
:57:37. > :58:07.incredibly consistent in his jump. That's the way to jump the water.
:58:08. > :58:21.All looking good for All In. We'd like to see him in the next round.
:58:22. > :58:31.So impressive. They are jumping this course for fun. They have a task on
:58:32. > :58:38.their hands to sort out what are now 12 clear rounds, two on one and four
:58:39. > :58:44.faults makes 25 in all now that would be four or better. No surprise
:58:45. > :58:51.to see Peder Fredricson going through. All In has jumped
:58:52. > :58:54.immaculately every round so far. These clear rounds racking up, it's
:58:55. > :58:58.quite extraordinary. I think the next round is going to have to be
:58:59. > :59:08.really, really difficult to try and separate them. Big job for the
:59:09. > :59:12.course builder. Certainly is. But he has done a massive job here. I've no
:59:13. > :59:26.doubt that his skills will do the job again. Now the Dutchman. Maikel
:59:27. > :59:32.Van der Vleuten. They've already got the world an European individual
:59:33. > :59:43.champion clear with Zenith. Now what can this man, who was jumping off
:59:44. > :59:48.for the team gold for the Dutch in London, Britain, of course, beat
:59:49. > :59:52.them. He has an Olympic team silver to his credit and a world gold in
:59:53. > :59:56.that team in France, in Normandy and the Europeans last year. Very
:59:57. > :00:05.talented with his super stallion, Verdi.
:00:06. > :00:15.Verdi has been such a strong, solid member of the Dutch team now for,
:00:16. > :00:18.well, four or five years. He's one of those horses that goes round the
:00:19. > :00:25.course, always seems to make it look quite easy. Not the most expansive
:00:26. > :00:52.jumper. Normally very efficient. Living dangerously. Runs in the yard
:00:53. > :01:01.with his father, himself an international rider of tremendous
:01:02. > :01:02.repute. They make a great partnership in producing horses. The
:01:03. > :01:17.Germans have got as well? -- have got two clear, are
:01:18. > :01:28.the Dutch going to as well? Doctor B. Not the first time it has
:01:29. > :01:32.happened -- not to be. Verdi gets his head down and that is a
:01:33. > :01:39.difficult offence to jump on this particular horse because he got
:01:40. > :01:44.stronger, ran down that last line. That is why it has built at the end
:01:45. > :01:48.of the course, when the horse gets a little bit forward and a little bit
:01:49. > :01:53.strong. And you can see there, very tough for van der Vleuten. His
:01:54. > :01:57.balance had gone completely. Disappointed for the Dutch because
:01:58. > :02:04.he didn't look like touching a fence up until that point. It is a little
:02:05. > :02:11.bit how the Dutch Olympics have gone here. But the man who knows what it
:02:12. > :02:16.is to win individual Olympic gold, did it with the great horse
:02:17. > :02:27.Hickstead in Hong Kong Beijing in 2008. He is back again. Erik Lamela
:02:28. > :02:33.is has been in tremendous form the hit -- Eric Lamaze has been in
:02:34. > :02:36.tremendous form here and when he has the bit between his teeth, anything
:02:37. > :02:55.is possible. That is typical Eric Lamaze, riding
:02:56. > :02:59.with so much pace, a lot of dash. One of those riders that can ride
:03:00. > :03:05.with pace, you can see the stride from such a long, long way away but
:03:06. > :03:15.it actually seems to make the horse jump in the a even more. -- in the
:03:16. > :03:33.air. Terrific skill. You can hear him talking to his horse.
:03:34. > :03:46.Needs to fight for a bit of balance here. Has he got it? He has. Canada
:03:47. > :03:53.more than happy enough with that. Eric Lamaze joins the list of
:03:54. > :04:04.clears. 13 of them. Is it going to be unlucky. One? -- for someone.
:04:05. > :04:13.Tremendous round, 13 have gone clear in round A, including this man, Eric
:04:14. > :04:29.Lamaze. So a fascinating position. 13 clear,
:04:30. > :04:34.two with one time fault. Surely the Olympic individual medals are going
:04:35. > :04:36.to come from somewhere within those 14 competitors. Make sure you are
:04:37. > :04:44.with us for the second round. HAZEL IRVINE: 5:30pm roughly for
:04:45. > :04:50.that second round. Nick Skelton clear and as you heard from Mike,
:04:51. > :04:54.one of 13 horse and rider is combinations that are clear. Ben
:04:55. > :04:58.Maher will start on four penalties and it is significant, because it is
:04:59. > :05:01.the penalties from this first round that are carried forward into the
:05:02. > :05:07.second, so everything counts from here on in. Great Britain have not
:05:08. > :05:11.won an individual show-jumping medal since 1972, so hopefully Nick or Ben
:05:12. > :05:16.can buck the trend in that respect. I bring you news of a diplomatic
:05:17. > :05:20.incident, there has been rumbling here in Brazil for a few days. You
:05:21. > :05:23.are probably well aware of the story featuring six time Olympic
:05:24. > :05:29.gold-medallist Ryan Lochte and his three mates, who allege they were
:05:30. > :05:33.held up and robbed at gunpoint in a taxi on the way home to the Olympic
:05:34. > :05:36.Village the other night. CCTV footage has emerged of them at a
:05:37. > :05:41.petrol station and it appears there has been a little bit bad behaviour,
:05:42. > :05:47.criminal damage has been alleged and it turns out there has been a of
:05:48. > :05:52.mendacity perhaps going on and Ryan Lochte has just issued an apology.
:05:53. > :05:56.It says, "I want to apologise for my behaviour last weekend, but not
:05:57. > :05:59.being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early
:06:00. > :06:04.morning and in my role of taking away the focus from any athletes
:06:05. > :06:10.fulfilling their dreams of participating in the Olympic Games."
:06:11. > :06:14.Jimmy Fagan has agreed to pay around ?8,000 to a sporting charity and
:06:15. > :06:18.having done so, he will now be given his passport back by the authorities
:06:19. > :06:23.and are allowed to return home to America. The other three are already
:06:24. > :06:26.there. The American Olympic Association has apologised
:06:27. > :06:31.unreservedly for their behaviour. It is a long-running saga and the end
:06:32. > :06:38.is inside. Another long-running saga has been men's 50 K walk. Around 31
:06:39. > :06:44.miles in old money, as it were, the longest athletics event of the lot
:06:45. > :06:51.in the Olympics and it has been one bite Slovakia. He overtook Jared tal
:06:52. > :06:55.of Australia in the closing few moments of that race and all of
:06:56. > :07:01.Australia had been hoping that Jared would come across the line first.
:07:02. > :07:06.This is the man who officially won his gold medal four years ago in
:07:07. > :07:20.London, but he was only given it in a ceremony last month after Russia's
:07:21. > :07:30.Kiryakin was found with a positive test. Upgraded to gold. And it was
:07:31. > :07:36.Hirai coming in third. Eamon Dunphy collapsed on the line but we hope he
:07:37. > :07:40.is OK. We are going to Olympic head kicking and body kicking, otherwise
:07:41. > :07:43.known as tae kwon do. What a fantastic sport this has proved to
:07:44. > :07:48.be and I know you are really enjoying it. Jade Jones has
:07:49. > :07:53.significantly achieved a wonderful ambition of coming -- becoming a
:07:54. > :07:56.two-time Olympic champion, last night and we have seen Lutalo
:07:57. > :08:00.Mohammad go through to the quarterfinals but the intriguing
:08:01. > :08:04.part about this men's 80 kilograms category is that it also contains
:08:05. > :08:09.Aaron Cook. The Dorchester born fighter was the world 11 going into
:08:10. > :08:20.the 2012 Games four years ago but was overlooked it by Lutalo Mohammad
:08:21. > :08:27.and said he felt cheated and robbed and soon after those Olympics, he
:08:28. > :08:31.accepted an invitation to become a Moldovan athlete and he is here
:08:32. > :08:36.representing them. A lot of frustration boiling up, you sense,
:08:37. > :08:36.for his first round today and he was fighting Wel-Ting Liu Chinese
:08:37. > :08:56.Taipei. -- of Chinese Taipei. Aaron Cook with something to prove
:08:57. > :09:03.here. He said he wants to progress through this round. Very quick on
:09:04. > :09:06.his feet. Footwork is fantastic, moving forwards and backwards. Goes
:09:07. > :09:12.for the power punch, doesn't land it.
:09:13. > :09:24.Kicks to the head are what the fighters are looking for. They are
:09:25. > :09:32.going to score three points. To the body, just a single point.
:09:33. > :09:39.Using that push kick just to gauge distance.
:09:40. > :09:47.Both counteract each other there. He is rangy, and that can prove
:09:48. > :09:52.damaging, Wel-Ting Liu. No mug, quarterfinals of the World
:09:53. > :09:56.Championships issue. Asian championships silver and
:09:57. > :10:04.bronze-medallists as well. One of the coaches getting involved. Some
:10:05. > :10:08.movements that quite often can be a score doesn't happen on this
:10:09. > :10:15.occasion. It is a match judge that has pushed the button. They will
:10:16. > :10:18.talk to the mat judges and if two of them have seen something, it will be
:10:19. > :10:24.awarded. Did you see anything? The power punch to the body was
:10:25. > :10:32.significant, but didn't register. Aaron Cook came in, close range,
:10:33. > :10:40.power punch to the body. Yes, there is your one point. Aaron Cook is on
:10:41. > :10:44.the scoreboard. That must have been some powerful punch because it has
:10:45. > :10:52.been very difficult to score with punches to the body throughout this
:10:53. > :10:57.Olympic tournament. Into day three of Olympic tae kwon do action in Rio
:10:58. > :11:00.2016, he has watched all of that, but Aaron Cook is able to get
:11:01. > :11:07.through, that is the sort of quality athlete we are talking about. There
:11:08. > :11:13.is no athlete may be in Rio that carries the same motivation that
:11:14. > :11:20.Aaron Cook does to succeed. He took his training away from the National
:11:21. > :11:25.setup. Another body shot. Wel-Ting Liu gets inside Cook and we are all
:11:26. > :11:29.square heading towards the end of the first round. Knocks him to the
:11:30. > :11:34.ground and there will be a warning against Cook and Moldova, which
:11:35. > :11:40.won't lead to anything before the bell. They sit down all tied up and
:11:41. > :11:43.he didn't necessarily see that coming, a great body shot from
:11:44. > :11:50.Wel-Ting Liu and we have a game on our hands here. That is right, Cook
:11:51. > :11:54.has just conceded going into this break. Another one of those and he
:11:55. > :12:00.will concede a point. You can see here from the overhead shot the
:12:01. > :12:06.distance between the two fighters. Gets his head round quick. Aaron
:12:07. > :12:16.Cook looking for the spinning kick to the body, doesn't quite come off.
:12:17. > :12:21.There is the first to the chest. You are saying about his training. He
:12:22. > :12:26.does his training with a guy called Nick Clegg, the father of Mark and
:12:27. > :12:29.Sean, two format International weightlifters and I believe that
:12:30. > :12:37.other brother played for Manchester United for a period of time. They
:12:38. > :12:40.are giving quality strength and conditioning advice for Aaron Cook
:12:41. > :12:48.who does look very strong against a competitor five inches taller.
:12:49. > :12:52.Nothing in this. Aaron Cook, number two in the world for Moldova, not
:12:53. > :12:57.his native Great Britain, against Wel-Ting Liu of Chinese Taipei,
:12:58. > :13:07.number 15 in the world coming in. Almost got the last spot, the very
:13:08. > :13:24.last spot available. He earned it and he is holding its own.
:13:25. > :13:33.Footwork from Aaron Cook really good. Just moving far enough away so
:13:34. > :13:34.he could make contact and then coming straight back in. The scores
:13:35. > :13:49.remain at one apiece. Cracking head shot, nearly took the
:13:50. > :13:58.head guard off Aaron Cook. Three points. That shook Aaron Cook up big
:13:59. > :14:02.time, the headset nearly did disappear and it really shook him
:14:03. > :14:07.up. This is not 40 plan. He didn't want to be in this position. He
:14:08. > :14:11.would have backed himself to be aggressive and get score in early,
:14:12. > :14:18.but it is the opposite. Far too far from the finish for Liu to consider
:14:19. > :14:21.defending this but why would he. He has landed more blows than his
:14:22. > :14:28.opponent, using his extra reach and his rangy style. Cook goes with the
:14:29. > :14:31.spinning work to the body to try and get more points. The atmosphere is
:14:32. > :14:37.amazing inside the arena. Everybody is well aware of the back story to
:14:38. > :14:44.Aaron Cook and how long he has waited to do this. He will have a
:14:45. > :14:49.minute to wait in a moment before the third round begins. Goodness
:14:50. > :14:54.knows what is going through his mind. So how about that? Chinese
:14:55. > :15:02.Taipei with the lead 4-1 at the second sit down. Liu going into the
:15:03. > :15:06.third round not with a nice advantage, not put too much of a
:15:07. > :15:10.cushion. Definitely in striking distance for Aaron Cook but Aaron is
:15:11. > :15:14.now under pressure. He is going to need to come out and show us what he
:15:15. > :15:20.is made of in this third and final round. He has got to show us what he
:15:21. > :15:24.is made up, pick up some points. The attempt at the chop kick the bear.
:15:25. > :15:45.-- there. Can't quite hear the words from the
:15:46. > :15:50.coach but the look on the face on Aaron Cook says this is desperation
:15:51. > :15:55.stakes. This is an interesting -- as interesting moment we have had on
:15:56. > :16:01.the mat since the rounds and later stages of qualification. Aaron Cook
:16:02. > :16:02.of Moldova with some work to do against Wel-Ting Liu of Chinese
:16:03. > :16:13.Taipei. Both fighters very dynamic in their
:16:14. > :16:15.movements. Coming in with intent. Power punch from Aaron Cook, doesn't
:16:16. > :16:27.score again. That one score on the board is from
:16:28. > :16:30.a punch not a kick. He hasn't made any contact. Tries up high, happy
:16:31. > :16:35.with the body. Collects nothing. Goes to ground. With that a penalty
:16:36. > :16:44.goes again Cook. The lead becomes four now to Liu. High drama here.
:16:45. > :16:46.Again, goes with the fist. This time does score. But he's going to need a
:16:47. > :16:58.lot of those in a minute-and-a-half. Back kick attempt to the body,
:16:59. > :17:05.doesn't come off. Nice covering from Liu. Multiple kicks coming in now.
:17:06. > :17:12.Those turning kicks not quite making contact. Giving away 13 centimetres
:17:13. > :17:17.and having a great effect here. He can't get near his man, who's
:17:18. > :17:21.standing in the middle of the mat and defending well. Happy to give
:17:22. > :17:26.away the penalty to score. The penalty is there, but the score is
:17:27. > :17:31.not. 6-2 inside the last minute. Chinese Taipei against Moldova here.
:17:32. > :17:36.Aaron Cook formerly of Great Britain, a man who was number one in
:17:37. > :17:39.the world at 19 years of age. He's been waiting for his opportunity.
:17:40. > :17:43.He's in all sorts of trouble here. Liu again upstairs. Wonderful
:17:44. > :17:50.manoeuvre that. Takes Cook to the head. Now 11-2. We get a review. The
:17:51. > :17:54.Moldovan coach has come in perhaps on Aaron's say so to review what,
:17:55. > :17:58.I'm not sure. He's claiming it wasn't a kick to the face. You've
:17:59. > :18:04.got to challenge it I guess. We're running out of time. Not only did he
:18:05. > :18:11.get three points for the kick to the head, but one point as well. Aaron
:18:12. > :18:16.Cook in real trouble right now. No time at all for the review to be
:18:17. > :18:20.knocked back. 11-2. He's only made scoring contact with his opponent
:18:21. > :18:23.with the power punches to the body. Spinning and trying to claim points
:18:24. > :18:28.now. The card's gone. He can't use it as he put the hand up. Thought he
:18:29. > :18:32.made contact, didn't. Cook spinning, spinning, has to go high quality. He
:18:33. > :18:38.has to get high scores. He hasn't been able to get near his man.
:18:39. > :18:43.Cook's helmet has come off. It's got to be all over. Inside the third
:18:44. > :18:50.round. The 12-point margin is enough. You're looking at it. 14-2.
:18:51. > :18:56.A massive upset on the taekwondo mat, congratulations to Wei-Ting Liu
:18:57. > :18:59.of Chinese Taipei, the it 1-year-old has -- 21-year-old has beaten the
:19:00. > :19:04.number two in the world, Aaron Cook, the former world number one, the man
:19:05. > :19:11.who had so much motivation here. He changed nations to get on the mat
:19:12. > :19:14.and he wanted gold and nothing less. Well, unless Liu continues through,
:19:15. > :19:19.Aaron Cook's Olympic Games are over right.
:19:20. > :19:22.There -- right there. You don't need me to say, that
:19:23. > :19:27.wasn't the result you wanted today. What went wrong? It's heart
:19:28. > :19:30.breaking, absolutely heart breaking. Obviously, I'm really happy that I'm
:19:31. > :19:37.here and I got the opportunity to fight. But oh, my God. I just went
:19:38. > :19:43.down too early with the head shot. I knew he was bigger that. Was the
:19:44. > :19:46.game plan to move away and keep it tight and steal underneath. A couple
:19:47. > :19:51.of shots didn't go my way in the first little bit. He got ahead. I
:19:52. > :19:56.had to chase. I just got caught every time I was trying to spin.
:19:57. > :20:00.Gutted. We know from what you went through in the build up to London
:20:01. > :20:03.2012 how difficult that was time as the emotions you've been through.
:20:04. > :20:05.How much of that was on your mind coming out here today, eight years
:20:06. > :20:09.since your last Olympics? Not too much. I was really excited when I
:20:10. > :20:15.was in the back, I was relaxed. I was warming up good. I felt really
:20:16. > :20:19.good this morning. Oh, why did I have a day like that at the
:20:20. > :20:23.Olympics? Yeah, just soul destroying. Got to pick myself up
:20:24. > :20:27.and I'll keep trying. Yeah, keep trying. Obviously, you've switched
:20:28. > :20:31.over and competing for Moldova at these Games, for those that don't
:20:32. > :20:36.know the story, how has that come about and what has it been like
:20:37. > :20:39.since switching from GB. Obviously the disappointment from London, I
:20:40. > :20:45.was number one in the world an I didn't get the opportunity to fight
:20:46. > :20:50.in London. Didn't see a pathway with GB and Moldova gave me this amazing
:20:51. > :20:55.opportunity and I'm just so... I feel I've let everyone down. Yeah,
:20:56. > :21:00.I'm absolutely gutted. I'm really sorry, because yeah, I know everyone
:21:01. > :21:06.had high hopes. I myself had high hopes. I'm really devastated. You'll
:21:07. > :21:11.be back for Tokyo, maybe the repecharge? We'll see. Erm......
:21:12. > :21:15.Yeah. Of course, I'll be back. But erm... This really hurts, so take
:21:16. > :21:21.some time. Thanks. Can you see it really hurts. It
:21:22. > :21:26.might not be over though, there is a rule in taekwondo, all athletes
:21:27. > :21:31.beaten by a finalist go into a repecharge for bronze. So a
:21:32. > :21:34.British-born fighter, fighting for Moldova, cheering on his opponent
:21:35. > :21:37.from Chinese Taipei, in the hope that he gets to the final, fight for
:21:38. > :21:42.gold. If he does he, will then get a chance to fight for bronze.
:21:43. > :21:49.Confused.com? Definitely. Other websites are available, by the way.
:21:50. > :21:54.Hands up if you remember 1988, the men's hockey Gold Medal? Sean Curly
:21:55. > :21:58.and Barry gafs, where were the Germans? Frankly who cares, we
:21:59. > :22:01.remember it well. 28 years later, it's the women who have the chance
:22:02. > :22:06.to go for gold. First time they've ever made it into the Olympic final
:22:07. > :22:10.and they're taking on the Dutch, double defending champions from the
:22:11. > :22:13.Netherlands, 9pm this evening. Meanwhile, there is a play-off for
:22:14. > :22:17.the bronze. This was the match in which the British women won bronze
:22:18. > :22:20.four years ago against New Zealand, the black sticks. They're there
:22:21. > :22:25.again. The black sticks do not want to go home with a fourth place
:22:26. > :22:29.finish fosh the second Olympics in -- for the second Olympics in the
:22:30. > :22:32.row. We're just into the first period of this match. It's described
:22:33. > :22:49.by Seth Bennett and Lesley Murdoch. The right is the favourite side from
:22:50. > :22:54.the goalkeeper's perspective. They have the stick in their hand. We've
:22:55. > :22:58.seen a fair few goals go in that side, especially in the men's
:22:59. > :23:02.campaign. That was blocked by Reynolds. Perfect positioning. New
:23:03. > :23:32.Zealand starting to move with a bit of purpose here.
:23:33. > :23:59.Just rolled away from Pierce. Special skill from Smith. Just
:24:00. > :24:11.grabbed the ball and the defender wrong footed. Pearce could not keep
:24:12. > :24:21.it in. The youngsters in the defence is very sound. Where they position
:24:22. > :24:36.themselves. The New Zealand women are wearing white today.
:24:37. > :25:09.Really strong from Brook-Neil. Good play to make sure she was the one
:25:10. > :25:13.that made the interception. Germany back in possession again.
:25:14. > :25:23.New Zealand get a chance to take it quickly.
:25:24. > :25:40.Critical touch there. Because it was going straight towards Flynn.
:25:41. > :25:44.Harrison thumped it towards the goal. Reynolds again slamming down
:25:45. > :26:04.that left boot. The ball rolls out of play. Good
:26:05. > :26:10.invention in this German side. Very good. Very, very strong with the
:26:11. > :26:16.ball down at their feet. Play a lot of indoor hockey.
:26:17. > :26:24.Is that just down to the tight confines of playing indoor hockey
:26:25. > :26:28.that you need better stick skills? It's really quick. You're pinging
:26:29. > :26:30.balls off walls. It comes back at you with speed. It really improves
:26:31. > :26:54.your skill level. New Zealand not clearing their lines
:26:55. > :27:03.cleanly right now. It's all a bit scruffy. That's going to be a
:27:04. > :27:12.corner. This time the way of Germany.
:27:13. > :27:18.Some concentrated play by Oruz. Catching the foot of Cocks. Penalty
:27:19. > :27:27.corner time for Germany. First of the game.
:27:28. > :27:45.They have a whole Bevvy of players around the top of the circle.
:27:46. > :27:57.Smashed wide by Muller. Not able to hit the target. Not going with the
:27:58. > :28:11.drag flick on that occasion. Looking to get as much power as possible.
:28:12. > :28:49.You might not agree with my decision, but you play on, all
:28:50. > :28:53.right. That was a ticking off. Please don't shout at me because
:28:54. > :29:00.you'll get in trouble. That was the message there.
:29:01. > :29:08.New Zealand with a chance to have a bit of the ball here.
:29:09. > :29:10.Lorenz gets in again. She will surge forward. Such a heart beat of this
:29:11. > :29:29.team. Defended relatively well by
:29:30. > :29:31.Charlton. From the penalty corner Germany catching a stick, long
:29:32. > :30:04.corner on that occasion. They have it right now.
:30:05. > :30:08.They can't get to the 50/50 ball. There's been a bit of that in this
:30:09. > :30:20.performance from New Zealand. Oldenburg protects the ball well --
:30:21. > :30:40.Altenburg. Charlton covering the line. Under two minutes remaining in
:30:41. > :30:45.this first quarter. Lorenz. Got that just as it was entering to the
:30:46. > :30:50.German player, Charlton. It is a great stick forward. We have seen
:30:51. > :30:54.the Germans do it a lot. Merry switches it across but can't quite
:30:55. > :31:05.pick out her team-mate, who had made a great run, Webster. It was a real
:31:06. > :31:09.opportunity. A real opportunity for New Zealand to get a counterattack
:31:10. > :31:14.going before the end of this first quarter. Pressure coming from New
:31:15. > :31:19.Zealand right now. Good turn away from trouble. Then nicely read by
:31:20. > :31:35.Whitelock. Forward it goes to Cocks. Cocks short pass, not finding its
:31:36. > :31:41.intended destination, Webster. Lorenz looks like she has got a
:31:42. > :31:47.really good hockey brain. And fiercely competitive with it. Oh,
:31:48. > :31:53.yeah. Happy to play as part of the defensive structure. Had to scramble
:31:54. > :32:00.to get there then. Now Germany again, maybe one last opportunity.
:32:01. > :32:14.Time trickling down on this first quarter. New Zealand just doing
:32:15. > :32:18.enough to keep them away here. As the hooter sounds, it is 0-0, a
:32:19. > :32:25.goalless first 15 minutes in this first one.
:32:26. > :32:35.Yes, and plenty of happenings either end of the turf as well. That is the
:32:36. > :32:37.score after the first spell of the ballot, Germany come into the
:32:38. > :32:44.Olympics much lower ranked by New Zealand, New Zealand ranked four and
:32:45. > :32:54.Germany nine. Look at the match starts. As in the semifinal, Germany
:32:55. > :33:02.not finishing at this stage. Zero from three and a penalty corner each
:33:03. > :33:07.and no conversion rate at all. HAZEL IRVINE: Back there in a moment
:33:08. > :33:11.for the second quarter, but let me just say once again, Great Britain
:33:12. > :33:13.are in that final 9pm tonight on BBC One after the magnificent seven wins
:33:14. > :33:31.sofa are. -- seven wins so far. It is a goal
:33:32. > :33:35.for Alex dancer. It is pushed home, Great Britain at the moment are the
:33:36. > :33:37.top team in the Olympic tournament. Richardson Walshe. It is a goal for
:33:38. > :33:52.Great Britain. Bright flick. Scores. Great Britain
:33:53. > :34:00.will go to the Olympic semifinal. They will face New Zealand. It is
:34:01. > :34:07.pushed home, it is scored. Alex Danson gets the first goal of the
:34:08. > :34:15.match. Great Britain 3-0 in front. She has got it, Great Britain are in
:34:16. > :34:20.the Olympic final. HAZEL IRVINE: And they are going for
:34:21. > :34:25.gold this evening against the Dutch, meanwhile back to the bronze medal
:34:26. > :34:32.play-off and it is 0-0, New Zealand against the Germans. Back to Steph
:34:33. > :34:34.Bennett and alongside him, Leslie, a former Kiwi International, played in
:34:35. > :34:50.the Games of 1984. And it has shown great progression,
:34:51. > :34:55.in 2008 it was 12th place, four years ago it was fourth place, and
:34:56. > :35:00.the natural progression is to end up on the podium Allsopp Merry wins the
:35:01. > :35:07.ball. What has been the big difference over the last eight
:35:08. > :35:13.years? Definitely the coaching style of Mark. Not only this group that he
:35:14. > :35:20.works with, it is the finish in the circle. We see a lot of creations
:35:21. > :35:24.for New Zealand, people might get frustrated that nothing happens as a
:35:25. > :35:27.result of those creations, but that is what he has done, he has been
:35:28. > :35:34.able to get lots of opportunities in the scoring circle and starting to
:35:35. > :35:39.get a better ratio. You have to be fit, also, I think the fitness of
:35:40. > :35:44.all of the teams here is phenomenal. Particularly playing in the midday
:35:45. > :35:50.sun in Rio de Janeiro. It may be winter but these days can be pretty
:35:51. > :35:56.sapling. Muller, that was a hard bounce. All the pressure was on the
:35:57. > :36:15.ball carrier. Whitelock loses out. Now the chance
:36:16. > :36:20.for Lisa Schulze. Not able to win it back. That was really good from
:36:21. > :36:26.Thomson. Smith spinning around gets herself a free hit. Two minutes into
:36:27. > :36:27.this second quarter and still waiting for somebody to score the
:36:28. > :36:42.first goal. The whistle-blowers. Advantage maybe could have been
:36:43. > :36:46.played there. It was played off the German foot and was going to elude
:36:47. > :36:51.Harrison, maybe that is why the advantage wasn't played but from the
:36:52. > :37:00.bigger angle, you can see why it wasn't.
:37:01. > :37:09.Everyone in the circle, it is a good old battle in there, and it goes the
:37:10. > :37:13.way of Germany. Yes, Harrison came from behind, nothing wrong with that
:37:14. > :37:28.as long as you don't make contact stick on stick. Lawrence,. So much
:37:29. > :37:48.confidence. She was in such a bind their -- Lorenz. Now the break can
:37:49. > :37:53.come. Taken off the stick of Teschke. The ball bobbling off the
:37:54. > :37:56.surface, we have seen that a bit more in these last two days,
:37:57. > :38:00.particularly in these really hot conditions.
:38:01. > :38:22.Now, a chance to run, bit of praise. It could break towards Schutze. Now
:38:23. > :38:28.they can break. Michelsen looks the Smith. Good running off the ball to
:38:29. > :38:32.rain that one in from Harrison. Lorenz not only wins the ball but
:38:33. > :38:40.then has the poise to walk it out of trouble. She is a very impressive
:38:41. > :38:43.player. She certainly is. And already for someone so young, just
:38:44. > :38:49.19 years of age, she has that presence on the pitch. It's not just
:38:50. > :38:54.the hockey work she does, she is a dominating player and owns the
:38:55. > :38:58.territory. She wins her one on ones, which is critical. As she gets a
:38:59. > :39:01.little older and a little stronger, you suspect that she will become an
:39:02. > :39:06.increasing attacking presence as well.
:39:07. > :39:16.At this point in her into national career, she has already scored six
:39:17. > :39:20.goals. She has played in 44 international matches, so she is
:39:21. > :39:29.moving along quite nicely. Germany put this one in. It is high and over
:39:30. > :39:32.the top. Muller with the attempt. It is the first really big blow we have
:39:33. > :39:41.seen from Germany in this quarter, up and over the top from Muller.
:39:42. > :39:57.Smith battles. New Zealand get the free hit. Put it back and they are
:39:58. > :40:05.going to try and build. Look at the structure of Germany, forcing New
:40:06. > :40:11.Zealand to go worldwide. A bit of space opening up for Sophie Cocks.
:40:12. > :40:16.But who is there? It is Lorenz. She has had a wonderful first 20 minutes
:40:17. > :40:23.of this game. Now the opportunity to break again. Altenburg. Tries to put
:40:24. > :40:29.it through a gap that wasn't really there. Whitelock will come away with
:40:30. > :40:36.it for the Black sticks. Needed to be stronger in possession. Altenburg
:40:37. > :40:41.will keep it moving. Poked away from her at the last second but the
:40:42. > :40:48.attack continues. Whitelock gets there and now the break can go the
:40:49. > :41:02.other way. Flin. Flin will go. What an opportunity this. One-on-one.
:41:03. > :41:15.Flin can't get it passed. And there was a player at the back post. Flin
:41:16. > :41:22.steaming to her left. Two on one, it was almost. It put flin in two
:41:23. > :41:34.minds, the Shuo Cao individual orders she passed and in the end,
:41:35. > :41:39.Lawrence Tomlinson in the circle. -- Rothlin. She got caught betwixt and
:41:40. > :41:45.between, never getting in a proper shot and it gave Reynolds the
:41:46. > :41:50.chance. Speaker you can see Webster steaming back and with the
:41:51. > :41:59.backpedalling of the Wrens. Webster's family in the stands.
:42:00. > :42:02.Flynn was spinning and almost shooting before the ball got to
:42:03. > :42:06.have. There have been two opportunities on the far side where
:42:07. > :42:11.the players should have taken a shot and they have passed off. It
:42:12. > :42:15.happened in the first quarter as well. They are so intent on playing
:42:16. > :42:23.the team passing game that the direct shot is not happening. Maybe
:42:24. > :42:25.they need to be more selfish. It is a team game but unique moments of
:42:26. > :42:42.individual brilliance. Keddell for New Zealand. New Zealand
:42:43. > :42:50.have only ever won a couple of matches against Germany. This is the
:42:51. > :42:58.17th meeting. Germany have won ten times. It is a dominant record. Is
:42:59. > :43:01.it Olympics and World Cups you are talking? If you do look at the
:43:02. > :43:08.Olympics, they have played three times prior to today at the Olympic
:43:09. > :43:14.Games. 2012, and in the year 2000. Two of those three Games have ended
:43:15. > :43:18.in draws and just one goal separating the sides and one goal
:43:19. > :43:28.when Germany won in 2008. So there isn't a great deal between them.
:43:29. > :43:34.Whitelock. It goes all the way through, doesn't take a touch.
:43:35. > :43:46.Webster threw herself at that one. Has to make sure the script of this
:43:47. > :44:08.game is as he drew up beforehand. Cash cow. -- cash macro. Germany
:44:09. > :44:18.coming forward. That was nice. That was an opportunity for Germany.
:44:19. > :44:21.Using reverse stick to get the ball into the circle, Schutze, but
:44:22. > :44:31.couldn't quite directed where she wanted. -- direct it. New Zealand
:44:32. > :44:36.back in possession again, then. What do you think of the structure of the
:44:37. > :44:40.New Zealand play? They are alternating using the midfield, who
:44:41. > :44:43.the screen players are and we have seen Whitelock and Michelsen, we
:44:44. > :44:48.haven't seen a lot of Michelsen, here she is with the ball though,
:44:49. > :44:53.and she has played two different roles all murder. Chance for
:44:54. > :44:57.McLaren. This is a real opportunity. Merry fluffs it. May well have been
:44:58. > :45:21.a challenge on her that caused the problem.
:45:22. > :45:29.Merry, at times, is a bit a battering ram. She can't make that
:45:30. > :45:43.one stick on her, where she wanted it to be.
:45:44. > :45:48.This is better from New Zealand. It's a more sustained period of
:45:49. > :46:08.pressure. Coming from Schroder, that defensive
:46:09. > :46:15.dribble out of the circle was amazing. Michelsen goes stumbling.
:46:16. > :46:30.An apology there. Who'll be the happier right now of
:46:31. > :46:33.the two coaching staff? I think that Jamilon Mulders definitely because
:46:34. > :46:36.his side has coped with what New Zealand has thrown at them. There
:46:37. > :46:39.will be frustration that New Zealand haven't converted the opportunities
:46:40. > :46:45.they've had in the circle. They haven't found the connections. It's
:46:46. > :46:55.a much better game from them, having said that, that the semifinal.
:46:56. > :46:59.Whitelock will come on and immediately take this free hit. It's
:47:00. > :47:09.moved down the field of play, telegraphed rather, though.
:47:10. > :47:35.She had a chance, but just miss today really. Can't put it simpler
:47:36. > :47:39.than that. She was doing her darnedest to get it. It was not
:47:40. > :47:45.quite falling for the team wearing white, that is New Zealand. Defence
:47:46. > :47:51.that is coming from Germany is stoic and strong and very competitive.
:47:52. > :48:04.Hacked high and over the top. A good bit of work to get forward. Anita
:48:05. > :48:12.McClaren just bag and getting the ball over the top and being called
:48:13. > :48:16.dangerous in the end. Flynn not as influential in this
:48:17. > :48:38.game as yet, as maybe New Zealand would hope.
:48:39. > :48:48.Really good from Michelsen. Nearly a super individual goal. It will be a
:48:49. > :48:53.long corner. Stacey Michelsen with the ball, goes through one, two,
:48:54. > :48:55.three tackles, has the shot, but Reynolds' left boot is sure.
:48:56. > :49:18.Tiptoes. Again they put this one in very,
:49:19. > :49:26.very high. After a really good, strong spell of pressure, the half
:49:27. > :49:31.ends and all in all, that was pretty good through the first 30 minutes of
:49:32. > :49:34.this one. Not much between them. Germany defending well when New
:49:35. > :49:39.Zealand have pushed forward. But they have had their own chances at
:49:40. > :49:49.the other end of the field. It's Germany 0, New Zealand 0.
:49:50. > :49:54.STUDIO: We'll be back there when they get into the third quarter
:49:55. > :49:58.there. The black sticks of New Zealand are in this bronze medal
:49:59. > :50:03.play-off after losing the semifinal to Great Britain, in what was a
:50:04. > :50:07.dramatic match the other night. It was watched by Kat, who watched the
:50:08. > :50:27.match in person. COMMENTATOR: It's a goal for Great
:50:28. > :50:31.Britain. Great Britain have won it. They've defeated Argentina! Scored.
:50:32. > :50:36.Great Britain at the moment the top team in the Olympic tournament. Next
:50:37. > :50:42.stop semifinal against the black sticks, New Zealand.
:50:43. > :50:45.This is it, the Olympic semifinal. Great Britain beat New Zealand four
:50:46. > :50:48.years ago in London to win bronze. Can they beat them again in Rio and
:50:49. > :50:54.give themselves a chance to go for gold?
:50:55. > :50:59.COMMENTATOR: Terrific atmosphere here tonight at the Diadora hockey
:51:00. > :51:03.stadium. It's come to Thompson, wide. New Zealand coming forward at
:51:04. > :51:15.pace. Smith to the edge, they'll get a shot on goal. No. It's wide again.
:51:16. > :51:20.Cullen, saved. Drag flick. It's pushed home. It's scored! Alex
:51:21. > :51:24.Danson gets the first goal of the match for Great Britain.
:51:25. > :51:26.Really good first half of hockey. They've got everything there.
:51:27. > :51:31.They've been training so hard for this. They're not likely to let it
:51:32. > :51:35.go at this point. It's there to take. Fingers crossed, everything
:51:36. > :51:40.crossed. You have come dressed for the occasion. And we're loving it.
:51:41. > :51:45.The crowd here is unreal. Every single person in here is screaming
:51:46. > :51:48.on Team GB. We are nailing it so far. You've worked up ape sweat
:51:49. > :51:52.banging that drum. We have, but it's worth it. Apparently they're
:51:53. > :51:55.complaining about it the New Zealanders, they'll have to pry it
:51:56. > :52:01.from our dead hands before we give it up. We're going on.
:52:02. > :52:12.COMMENTATOR: New Zealand in possession one more time. Can they
:52:13. > :52:22.clear it? Really brave. Oh, she's found her. Can she score? Penalty
:52:23. > :52:28.stroke. Scores! This is promising for Great Britain. Penalty stroke
:52:29. > :52:33.again. To put Great Britain 3-0 in front, she's got it! Danson scores
:52:34. > :52:39.her second. Great Britain are in the Olympic final.
:52:40. > :52:44.CHEERING That's it, they've done it. They are through to their first
:52:45. > :52:52.Olympic final with seven wins out of seven. Can they now make it eight?
:52:53. > :52:55.Mrs White your daughter is an Olympic finalist. I know, how
:52:56. > :52:58.amazing. They worked so hard for it. They weren't going to lose that now.
:52:59. > :53:02.A Gold Medal chance now. We've been talking to your mum and dad in the
:53:03. > :53:07.stands. They are so proud. Yeah, I'm so happy. The girls are ecstatic.
:53:08. > :53:10.I'm sure their parents are as well. They're a part of the journey as
:53:11. > :53:15.much as we are. So proud. The whole team were brilliant in that game.
:53:16. > :53:18.What you saw today was the ultimate squad performance. People putting
:53:19. > :53:21.their bodies on the line. People thinking clearly under pressure and
:53:22. > :53:28.doing the right thing at the right moment. Everybody, to a woman, stood
:53:29. > :53:32.up and did their job today. They've looked so composed and so together.
:53:33. > :53:35.It's 9pm, the moment for the Great Britain women's hockey team in that
:53:36. > :53:39.final against the Dutch. More hockey shortly. But just whilst they're
:53:40. > :53:43.enjoying their halftime break, it's the start of the modern pentathlon.
:53:44. > :53:46.There was a fencing ranking round yesterday. But it's the women's
:53:47. > :53:52.event. Now this is the event in which Great Britain's women have
:53:53. > :53:57.fared extremely well since 2000, Stef Cook took the gold there.
:53:58. > :54:02.Medals for Kate Allenby and Samantha Murray took the silver on the last
:54:03. > :54:08.day in London. It was the very last medal won by Great Britain the 65th
:54:09. > :54:12.at our home Olympics. They're in it today. Samantha's back alongside
:54:13. > :54:16.Kate French and the way it works, it's five completely separate events
:54:17. > :54:21.all on one day. They start with the swimming. Then there's a fencing
:54:22. > :54:25.bonus round today. There's showjumping. This is intriguing
:54:26. > :54:29.because the top athletes in the fence and the fencing gets to choose
:54:30. > :54:32.-- in the swim and the fencing gets to choose the horse. The others have
:54:33. > :54:36.to draw lots to see which horse they get. That causes all kinds of
:54:37. > :54:41.confusion. You get 20 minutes to warm up on the animal, then they've
:54:42. > :54:45.got five jumps before they have to complete a showjumping round. Then
:54:46. > :54:51.they finish off with a run and shooting in the same I vent. It's
:54:52. > :54:56.like a biathlon in the Winter Olympics, but without skis. Let's
:54:57. > :54:57.see how the British athletes add everyone else got on in the swim
:54:58. > :55:08.this morning. Kate French is in the middle. She's
:55:09. > :55:30.got the second fastest personal best time in the last year.
:55:31. > :55:40.Kate French in lane five. She lives in Bath where the British modern
:55:41. > :55:41.pentathlon team are based at the University of Bath. From Gravesend
:55:42. > :56:12.in Kent originally. This is probably quite a fast swim
:56:13. > :56:17.heat for Kate. I'm not surprised to see her drop back a bit. She will
:56:18. > :56:23.put everything into this. Some of the times this year have
:56:24. > :56:27.been more like 2. 16, rather than 2-11 that she's been ranked at. What
:56:28. > :56:33.will be her strong points as we go through the day? One of the great
:56:34. > :56:38.things about Kate is that she's actually just a good, all round
:56:39. > :56:46.modern pentathlete. She doesn't have any particularly weak events. She
:56:47. > :56:51.has a strong ride coming from her penta background. Her swim is good,
:56:52. > :57:03.in the second fastest heat here. Her combined event has improved
:57:04. > :57:11.enormously. We might have hoped for more in the fencing yesterday, she's
:57:12. > :57:25.keeping herself in the mix. Great action from the crowd to
:57:26. > :57:29.Marquez. Kate French in fifth. The reaction of the Brazilian crowd
:57:30. > :57:32.whenever a Brazilian athlete has been competing has been amazing out
:57:33. > :57:50.here at the Gamesment -- Games. Potapenko there.
:57:51. > :58:02.Sotero of Italy in second. Marques in third place.
:58:03. > :58:07.Khokhlova of Argentina six out of the six. The position in the swim
:58:08. > :58:11.heat is not crucial in this. It's really just about the time. That's
:58:12. > :58:18.the sort of time I would have been expecting Kate to swim more of a 2.
:58:19. > :58:26.6. -- 2. 16. This is the final heat in the women's modern pentathlon.
:58:27. > :58:42.These women will be looking to swim Sub 2. 10.
:58:43. > :58:49.Sam with a good, long glide under the water. She and Clouvel used to
:58:50. > :58:54.train together in France. Sam is a modern linguist. She studied French
:58:55. > :59:02.and politics at Bath. She spent time out in France and during that time
:59:03. > :59:06.was training with Clouvel. They're well matched on the swim. There'll
:59:07. > :59:11.be fierce rivalry in the pool today. She won the Silver Medal in London,
:59:12. > :59:14.maybe surprised a lot of people when she did, although I don't think she
:59:15. > :59:18.surprised herself coming in and winning the final medal for Team GB,
:59:19. > :59:21.in the final event of the Games in 2012. It's fair to say, she's had a
:59:22. > :59:26.tough time since then. She said she found it difficult to cope with the
:59:27. > :59:30.expectations placed on her by being the Silver Medallist. Though she
:59:31. > :59:35.went on to become the world champion in 2014. It's been a tough year in
:59:36. > :59:40.2016. Yes, unfortunately this year she has struggled with injury. She's
:59:41. > :59:43.had an Achilles injury, illness, various technical difficulties. I
:59:44. > :59:50.know she changed her gun earlier in the year as well. So, she wants to
:59:51. > :59:55.make amends for all of that. This year, she hasn't really shown her
:59:56. > :59:58.form. The fencing maybe was a reflection of all of those
:59:59. > :00:02.difficulties that she's been encompassing this year.
:00:03. > :00:11.She'll be out there fighting today. She will have a point to prove.
:00:12. > :00:18.a and she feels very comfortable in the water as we can see. Going into
:00:19. > :00:22.the final length. She was second at the town. She was first at the
:00:23. > :00:28.halfway point so she has dropped back slightly.
:00:29. > :00:42.Elodie Clouvel will not want to be beaten, she is a tough competitor.
:00:43. > :00:46.It is the Russian Gulnaz Gubaydullina that will get the touch
:00:47. > :00:51.first of all. She says the new Olympic record in the swim, Gulnaz
:00:52. > :00:58.Gubaydullina. Two minutes and seven seconds. Elodie Clouvel is second
:00:59. > :01:08.and Samantha Murray is in fourth place with a time of 2.10.81 minutes
:01:09. > :01:17.this is the result of the swim, the overall results. Gulnaz
:01:18. > :01:21.Gubaydullina, that Olympic record time, 317 points. It was a strong
:01:22. > :01:25.swim for Elodie Clouvel. Fourth place in the swim for Samantha
:01:26. > :01:37.Murray. Kate French town in 15th position. Natalya Coyle of Northern
:01:38. > :01:48.Ireland in 18th. You can see marble Lee Dickson and Isabella Isaksen are
:01:49. > :01:52.24th -- 24 and 24th fastest. The Beijing Champion Lena Schoeneborn in
:01:53. > :02:02.20 Ninth Place. The champion from London Laura acid escaped just
:02:03. > :02:09.both were needing a good performance in the fencing around. We are
:02:10. > :02:11.straight back to the hockey. It is still 0-0 for the start of the third
:02:12. > :02:20.quarter. COMMENTATOR: That is one of the area
:02:21. > :02:25.is where you could see that merely as strong. It is very well picked
:02:26. > :02:47.up. I totally agree with you. The ball is still with New Zealand.
:02:48. > :03:02.The high shot is going to be called dangerous.
:03:03. > :03:08.There is a lot more pressure coming on the deliverer. It is more white
:03:09. > :03:26.uniforms around the German defenders when they are run the ball. Now it
:03:27. > :03:34.has taken away. Pushed on again and that is an opportunity to break with
:03:35. > :03:38.pace. The shot was deflected and generally score. They have got the
:03:39. > :03:45.opening goal. Really good at running again. Charlotte Stapenhorst on the
:03:46. > :03:50.break, against the run of play, gives Germany a one goal lead. It
:03:51. > :03:58.was the pressure that New Zealand presented. Look at Marine waivers at
:03:59. > :04:02.the top. She gets hard pass across to Charlotte Stapenhorst to open
:04:03. > :04:12.this scoring in this bronze medal match. -- Marine waivers.
:04:13. > :04:21.It is clinical from Germany. Essentially, they had three attempts
:04:22. > :04:27.on goal in this match and they have now scored from one of them. For New
:04:28. > :04:31.Zealand, it is a different story. They have had ten attempts are not
:04:32. > :04:38.scored any. It is that the nickel plate that is the difference between
:04:39. > :04:39.these two Mac. -- clinical play. It will give Germany confidence they
:04:40. > :04:53.can build again from the back. It goes out of play and that will be
:04:54. > :04:57.New Zealand ball. Lots of time left in the game for New Zealand to come
:04:58. > :05:01.back but it is a kick in the guts. It takes the wind right out of them
:05:02. > :05:41.to have had your best passage of play of the game.
:05:42. > :05:46.You could see what Gemma Flynn was trying to do, getting the ball to
:05:47. > :05:57.her skipper but it needed to be a softer pass. What a change in the
:05:58. > :06:01.speed of the game. The increased energy that Germany have got. That
:06:02. > :06:05.will create opportunities for New Zealand as well. It will stretch out
:06:06. > :06:07.the layers and give room to the midfield where New Zealand are very
:06:08. > :06:25.strong, very fast do that midfield. What a pass that was. It was
:06:26. > :06:32.deflected. It was so close but Sally Rutherford did just enough. Germany
:06:33. > :06:35.are pouring on the pressure. Sally Rutherford gets a very important
:06:36. > :06:42.stick and a good save. The ball are still with Germany.
:06:43. > :06:48.Germany are trying to elevate, they have got the momentum after the
:06:49. > :06:51.goal. They know that a second goal might be enough, particularly with
:06:52. > :06:57.the way that they have defended in this tournament. You are most
:06:58. > :07:02.vulnerable when you have had one scored against you. To get another
:07:03. > :07:06.one straight away, in terms of possession and territory, against
:07:07. > :07:07.the run of play. It is about taking the opportunities and finishing in
:07:08. > :07:26.that circle. Good control again. That quick
:07:27. > :07:30.release was intercepted and midfield again. When you are under pressure,
:07:31. > :07:43.you try to react quickly. The ball comes back and you just as quickly.
:07:44. > :08:08.That was given away. It is a second. Lisa Marie Schutze. Just like that,
:08:09. > :08:13.Germany lead 2-0. Mean New Zealand players are flat out on the pitch
:08:14. > :08:20.and it is a real kicker for them. What a great goal from Germany. They
:08:21. > :08:27.have put on the pressure. Number 11, Lisa Marie Schutze. She sensed there
:08:28. > :08:31.was a lot of New Zealand players around the ball but still have the
:08:32. > :08:37.composure and poised to put the ball over the top of the goalkeeper and
:08:38. > :08:43.it is Germany- and -- Germany 2-0 New Zealand. It was coming and you
:08:44. > :08:49.felt it. Germany couldn't see that there was an opportunity and it all
:08:50. > :08:53.came because of a mistake by Kayla Whitelock. She had possession and
:08:54. > :08:57.gave the ball away and midfield. That is why Germany were able to hit
:08:58. > :09:03.so quickly. New Zealand have to gamble now. They have to try to find
:09:04. > :09:07.a way back into the scheme. Any kind of ball possession over the next
:09:08. > :09:16.five minutes will be a big help to them, just to try to get a foothold
:09:17. > :09:28.back. 2-0 down. Germany have been so clinical. So deficient in what they
:09:29. > :09:33.have done. And efficient. Getting those to my chances and making it
:09:34. > :09:36.hurt with accounts for the defence. We all want the ball, you can hear
:09:37. > :10:10.them shouting. The ball was hit to high as it was
:10:11. > :10:11.brought back in. And it was clear the way. Really interesting
:10:12. > :10:30.decision. The shot on goal, a shot across,
:10:31. > :10:46.Gemma Flynn was under pressure and did not have the poise.
:10:47. > :10:54.It was an interesting decision by the umpire not to give the ball
:10:55. > :11:20.being too high coming in. And now the ball goes the way of Germany.
:11:21. > :11:30.That was nearly taken down beautifully but she runs out of
:11:31. > :11:35.play. Again, putting pressure on the outlet from defence. New Zealand are
:11:36. > :11:36.not coping with it all that well and the option is not there either. It
:11:37. > :11:50.has been cut off by Germany. Right now in this bronze medal
:11:51. > :11:55.match, New Zealand are finding themselves struggling to get back
:11:56. > :11:58.into the scheme. They have got the opportunity with this long corner
:11:59. > :12:08.with under five minutes to go in the third quarter.
:12:09. > :12:10.Lisa Marie Schutze and Charlotte Stapenhorst are the two
:12:11. > :12:20.goal-scorers. New Zealand are going to have to
:12:21. > :12:28.work all the way back to collect this.
:12:29. > :12:38.New Zealand are still waiting quite. 'S -- still wearing white.
:12:39. > :12:42.You could easily get these two mix-up otherwise, Germany are in
:12:43. > :12:49.black. What a tackle by Brooke Neal. She
:12:50. > :13:13.did everything she needed to do. In the end it was just behind the
:13:14. > :13:17.onrushing Pia-Sophie Oldhafer. She will pop up in the most amazing
:13:18. > :13:23.places and get yourself an opportunity to get a shot away at
:13:24. > :13:24.goal. She was one of the goal-scorers when Germany beat New
:13:25. > :13:40.Zealand in the group game. Anne Schroder and pierce of fear or
:13:41. > :13:49.favour where the two goal-scorers and that match. -- Pia-Sophie
:13:50. > :13:54.Oldhafer. They want to go upstairs. REFEREE: We are looking for a German
:13:55. > :14:04.foot. I will take a look. The referral comes. They are looking for
:14:05. > :14:19.a German foot. There it is. It is Lisa Altenburg. Having another look
:14:20. > :14:27.at the angle. REFEREE: There is a food, penalty corner. -- foot.
:14:28. > :14:35.Germany put all their gear on. New Zealand are referred correctly. They
:14:36. > :14:37.need to get a goal now and this penalty corner is the opportunity. I
:14:38. > :14:43.was thinking the same thing. Just over three minutes remaining in
:14:44. > :15:03.the third quarter. Germany will get a chance to clear
:15:04. > :15:05.it away and did not go to plan. McLaren just got it on the defender.
:15:06. > :15:25.Onto her own player. All you first break. -- already a
:15:26. > :15:32.fast rate. It just flicked through onto the fourth quarter, and it
:15:33. > :15:35.still says that on your screens and in the main stadium, it is a slight
:15:36. > :15:45.technical fault, we are still in the third. There are under three minutes
:15:46. > :15:58.remaining. Look at that terrific pass from Oruz. New Zealand, not
:15:59. > :16:06.able to find the team-mates as they want at this point. And they have
:16:07. > :16:10.not been able to play down the right much either, which is where a lot of
:16:11. > :16:21.the goals have been elicited from in this Olympic campaign. I thought she
:16:22. > :16:29.was going to take a break but instead she is poised, as this is
:16:30. > :16:34.sent airily forward. Germany seem to be playing for time right now. Maybe
:16:35. > :16:41.that is when New Zealand can get them. It deflects out of play and
:16:42. > :16:52.now the chance to run on, Smith, twists, turns... The challenge on
:16:53. > :16:58.the stick. Free hit will come and it is just starting to get a bit
:16:59. > :17:05.fractious. Captain Whitelock got a green card for that the other day.
:17:06. > :17:10.Blocked at the top. Germany do not clear their lines though. Not
:17:11. > :17:16.clinical, and now New Zealand can build again with Charlton. It goes
:17:17. > :17:25.up in the air. This would be cleared. Out of play.
:17:26. > :17:39.The last 30 seconds of the third quarter. Teschke, sending it down
:17:40. > :17:48.the field. Smith is blocked off out there. And Germany doing just enough
:17:49. > :17:54.to make this very, very for New Zealand. It is good player, what you
:17:55. > :18:01.have to do in this position. Oh, penalty corner. Outside the circle,
:18:02. > :18:06.it is deemed deliberate infringement to stop the progress of the New
:18:07. > :18:11.Zealand player. A tough call but it has happened to New Zealand in other
:18:12. > :18:21.games, critical games. There it is. This is their fifth penalty corner.
:18:22. > :18:26.And it looks like they are going to go the other way now and try
:18:27. > :18:29.something a little bit different. They will bring everybody up,
:18:30. > :18:36.because the hooter, I have not actually heard it, but it has got
:18:37. > :18:42.zero on the scoreboard, although it has not been that accurate today.
:18:43. > :18:45.All the defences to do is get it out from the baseline, all New Zealand
:18:46. > :18:54.have to do is score, or lose possession. A full false start...
:18:55. > :19:08.Tipped into the air, second chance... Oh, yes! Mary scores. --
:19:09. > :19:14.Merry. It has handed New Zealand a huge chance. It is not yet set in
:19:15. > :19:26.gold. They are going to have a look at it. I think they have got a
:19:27. > :19:39.point. I think Merry comes in to early. I cannot see anything wrong
:19:40. > :19:45.with that. Your interpretation? In real time I felt like she broke the
:19:46. > :19:56.line before the ball was played. But you cannot tell from that angle. You
:19:57. > :20:05.need the big wide shot to be able to tell. There was a break, but now it
:20:06. > :20:15.in failed attempt at goal, so the goal stands. There you go. Germany
:20:16. > :20:22.lose their referral. The goal counts. Late drama. So there was an
:20:23. > :20:32.early break, but it was deemed not to influence the goal. Here it is
:20:33. > :20:39.again, watch Merry, the shot, deflection, the saver made by
:20:40. > :20:44.Reynolds, and then went back in, after a slight deflection, and the
:20:45. > :20:47.coach raises his arms above his head, at last his team gets one in
:20:48. > :21:10.after all the opportunities they have created.
:21:11. > :21:16.HAZEL: the end of the third quarter, one more to come. But we are
:21:17. > :21:24.squeezing in as much news from day 14 as we can. It is moving day in
:21:25. > :21:27.the women's golf. We saw Justin Rose on his way to gold last week. He
:21:28. > :21:33.managed to score the first ever hole in one in Olympic golf, but not to
:21:34. > :21:40.be out beaten, the women have managed it twice today.
:21:41. > :21:45.They have, the wind has whipped up from the Atlantic and added a whole
:21:46. > :21:49.new dimension to the women's golf. It has not just created problems out
:21:50. > :21:54.on the course where some people are really struggling, but moments of
:21:55. > :21:59.absolute billions and drama. Take a look at this, the world number one
:22:00. > :22:08.from New Zealand, 19-year-old Lydia Ko, on the par three eighths, after
:22:09. > :22:17.four birdies on the front nine, and then this. That has propelled her
:22:18. > :22:21.up. She is four shots from the lead, were in contention after a fairly
:22:22. > :22:30.average opening couple of rounds. And good news for Britain, Charlie
:22:31. > :22:39.is one shot ahead on ten under par. -- Charley Hull. She has had such a
:22:40. > :22:44.dramatic round. The wind has really affected her. Sometimes harnessed to
:22:45. > :22:49.the good, other times to the bad. She was in water in the third, but
:22:50. > :22:54.luckily the ball skipped out and landed in a mound of sand. But
:22:55. > :23:00.Charley Hull is going great guns, just three shots from the lead. Tied
:23:01. > :23:10.for second. No problems for the leader, seven time major champion
:23:11. > :23:19.from Korea, regular as a metronome, this was to give Inbee Park a four
:23:20. > :23:24.shot lead, she did miss, but has extended her lead, and is three
:23:25. > :23:29.shots clear of the rest of the field. Catriona Matthew so, I am
:23:30. > :23:39.afraid, gradually drifting backwards in the wind. Ten shots adrift of the
:23:40. > :23:44.leader, Inbee Park, but Charley Hull, still right in it.
:23:45. > :23:45.Thank you very much for that Hull, still right in it.
:23:46. > :23:53.Thank you very much for that update. And just to reaffirm that Inbee
:23:54. > :23:57.Park, she missed the British woman's Open Championship with a thumb
:23:58. > :24:01.injury and was saving herself for this gold-medal assault. And we are
:24:02. > :24:05.now watching a bronze medal assault in the bronze medal match, so that
:24:06. > :24:10.is the situation in the Gulf, back we go to the fourth quarter of this
:24:11. > :24:19.bronze medal play-off, Germany 2-1 New Zealand.
:24:20. > :24:25.COMMENTATOR: COMMENTATOR: playing her first game of the tournament,
:24:26. > :24:33.she comes out again, more good defending, and then, Thompson,
:24:34. > :24:38.winning the free hit. Look at this. Rutherford called into
:24:39. > :24:46.action by and other very good angled pass. A beautiful pass to start,
:24:47. > :24:51.which we did not quite see there. That was an incredible trap. The
:24:52. > :25:09.full wind-up and big hit. It pops out to Muller again, Germany just
:25:10. > :25:19.built it down-the-line. -- belt. Better. Mickelson. Still Mickelson.
:25:20. > :25:31.What a challenge at the very last second. Look at the high backlift.
:25:32. > :25:38.It gives Lorenz time to get her stick in and smother the chance. So
:25:39. > :25:49.committed in defence, 19 years of age. Stapenhorst, try to put
:25:50. > :25:58.pressure on, Rutherford came out a long way, and Stapenhorst has it, it
:25:59. > :26:05.hit the arm, or the hand, that is the ruling of the umpire. They
:26:06. > :26:13.continues. -- play. Good, from McLaren. Whitelock. A long way
:26:14. > :26:20.forward, puts this in. It came off a foot just outside. Being pushed
:26:21. > :26:26.right up into the front running strikers, Whitelock, the New Zealand
:26:27. > :26:32.skipper. As Germany are the equal with all their defensive strengths.
:26:33. > :26:37.Thompson, chops it across, taken beautifully out of the air. McLaren
:26:38. > :26:51.tries to sneak by and gets a free hit. This time plays it in low. That
:26:52. > :26:57.would be a long corner. Neat pass. This time it goes in, deflected...
:26:58. > :27:05.And it goes behind off a New Zealand stick. A good battle right now. The
:27:06. > :27:08.strike from Charlton, a little aerial as well. But the eyes and the
:27:09. > :27:25.feet are sure, from Germany. It is all New Zealand are right now.
:27:26. > :27:31.They are pushing for a second. Deflects in again and a good save
:27:32. > :27:36.from Reynolds. It came off a New Zealand foot last. This was a chance
:27:37. > :27:43.nobody anticipated. It was not really a shot but nearly was a goal.
:27:44. > :27:49.That was very efficient. Bending the knee and making the ball dropped
:27:50. > :27:52.down. There were two Mac New Zealanders at the top looking for
:27:53. > :27:59.the rebound, a bit of confusion, they are just lacking that extra bit
:28:00. > :28:03.of composure that they need. Almost doing the second thing before the
:28:04. > :28:09.first thing has been completed. We have seen it a few times. Is it just
:28:10. > :28:15.scrambled mind of the I think it is just the pressure and the desire to
:28:16. > :28:23.get a result. You cannot fault that but in the end it is not a helpful
:28:24. > :28:37.motion to have. -- emotion. Thomson goes high. Controlled well by Cox.
:28:38. > :28:47.Space to work. That is too high and bubbled up of Webster's stick. That
:28:48. > :28:56.is pressure because from New Zealand, a lot of them have got...
:28:57. > :28:57.Is it just a technical thing? You are rushing, not getting your
:28:58. > :29:24.balance. Good movement by Michelson. But it is Lorenz who
:29:25. > :29:37.comes away with it for Germany. And it is giving away, really sloppy.
:29:38. > :29:47.Mavers, wants it, but in the end, off a shin, and she wants to take
:29:48. > :29:55.out home of card and have quite a remonstrate. Fortunate not to get in
:29:56. > :30:00.trouble -- take out her mouth card. The game is being stretched out,
:30:01. > :30:07.both sets of players. Good turn, Thompson. New Zealand. The Black
:30:08. > :30:14.sticks are heading over the horizon right now. The cavalry is coming.
:30:15. > :30:24.Can they get that one chance that they need?
:30:25. > :30:34.To potentially send this game to a shoot out. The men's bronze medal
:30:35. > :30:35.match was decided by a shoot out. Germany's semifinal was decided by a
:30:36. > :30:49.shoot out. These last 2-3 minutes, Germany have
:30:50. > :31:14.done a make life super difficult for New Zealand.
:31:15. > :31:26.The pressure is coming the Germany are keeping their nerve.
:31:27. > :31:29.That was miscommunication with Charlotte Stapenhorst but it is a
:31:30. > :31:35.free hit for Germany. Germany put it in but it was
:31:36. > :31:54.deflected wide of the target. The German supporters are on their
:31:55. > :32:08.feet. Trying to do their bit to help.
:32:09. > :32:14.That was good defensive work from New Zealand and lots of pressure on
:32:15. > :32:21.the ball carrier. They need to get the ball up the other end.
:32:22. > :32:34.When Stacey Mickelson gets the ball, she's really good. She was crowded
:32:35. > :32:45.out by three. Lisa Altenburg tied to get around the outside. The range of
:32:46. > :32:51.passing right now... I was wondering if New Zealand are taking off the
:32:52. > :33:01.goalkeeper? Yes, they are. The red jersey is coming onto the field of
:33:02. > :33:08.play. Will step off. Brooke Neal will put on the red shirt. Hold on a
:33:09. > :33:15.second, she says. She has not got the shirt on. Brooke Neal puts on
:33:16. > :33:20.the red shirt in deep defence. She was wearing number nine. It always
:33:21. > :33:23.feels to be a funny time to do it when there is a free hit on the 23
:33:24. > :33:38.metering. It probably doesn't matter either way.
:33:39. > :33:46.New Zealand believed it was the ball.
:33:47. > :33:53.Lisa Altenburg will see off time right now. Under four minutes to go.
:33:54. > :33:58.New Zealand have got possession back and need to make it count. 2-1 down.
:33:59. > :34:18.Need to make sure they get some pressure on the circle.
:34:19. > :34:24.It deflects again and that is good defending from Germany to get a
:34:25. > :34:33.stick in the way. Terrific attack and today the defence.
:34:34. > :34:36.Both sides want this desperately right now. That was a dangerous
:34:37. > :34:52.clearance attempt. New Zealand give cheap possession
:34:53. > :35:05.back. Again that had been deemed dangerous. Is there one New Zealand
:35:06. > :35:19.player that has got the ice in their veins? That was a deflection again.
:35:20. > :35:30.That was a big say. Two people going for the shot. There was confusion.
:35:31. > :35:45.That was kicked away. Was that dangerous? No, it wasn't. It is a
:35:46. > :35:48.long corner. New Zealand are only two minute warning. That was
:35:49. > :35:56.deflected in the circle and it was too high. It hit Kayla Whitelock.
:35:57. > :36:07.New Zealand are giving it everything. Reynolds against Ops the
:36:08. > :36:38.opportunity. Lisa Altenburg will need to bring the ball up.
:36:39. > :36:47.There is just a wall of black ahead of New Zealand. Germany are
:36:48. > :36:53.collapsing. They have shut off any daylight between the ball and the
:36:54. > :36:58.goal. So far, they have been good to avoid any danger. They have conceded
:36:59. > :37:10.a penalty corner. That was a high ball and it was
:37:11. > :37:11.careless. And Germany can clearly and the time is running out for an
:37:12. > :37:33.equaliser. McLaren does not trap it cleanly and
:37:34. > :37:37.the basics are costing New Zealand. Germany enter the final ten seconds,
:37:38. > :37:48.they know, barring a miracle, they have done this. Terrific defensive
:37:49. > :37:59.performance from Germany as once again New Zealand are to bronze. Two
:38:00. > :38:05.goals in quick succession. In the third quarter, gave Germany all be
:38:06. > :38:08.lead they needed. The reply at the end of the food came from Olivia
:38:09. > :38:13.Merry. New Zealand could not find another way through. Germany, for
:38:14. > :38:19.the first time and there has have won the bronze medal and the all too
:38:20. > :38:24.familiar feelings for New Zealand who once again miss out in the
:38:25. > :38:30.bronze medal match, just as they did in London for my kids years ago. For
:38:31. > :38:39.some, it is too much to take. You have to look clinically at the game.
:38:40. > :38:42.New Zealand had all that pressure but could not convert. After
:38:43. > :38:46.half-time, it was a different Germany that came out and they
:38:47. > :38:52.surprised New Zealand, getting those two Michaels and close succession.
:38:53. > :38:57.In the end, just the one goal for all of the effort they put in. The
:38:58. > :38:58.team that took the opportunities has got the bronze medal and that is
:38:59. > :39:21.Germany. The German celebrations then. Like
:39:22. > :39:32.the men, they have won a bronze medal here.
:39:33. > :39:40.For New Zealand, there isn't the progression they would have wanted.
:39:41. > :39:46.Look at the age of the German side, two 19-year-olds. Some 20-year-olds.
:39:47. > :39:53.The Germans medically it would be talking but look at the young side.
:39:54. > :39:57.-- made it clear. They have come through and done the business. The
:39:58. > :40:05.hero for me apart from the goalkeeper Robert notes, --
:40:06. > :40:08.Reynolds, she has had a terrific campaign has been Nike Lorenz. She
:40:09. > :40:14.has inspired the others at the front. The last couple of matches
:40:15. > :40:21.where Germany have been so good. Look at this. Annika Sprink has got
:40:22. > :40:29.a badly but she will get a piggyback. Wonderful. Look at what
:40:30. > :40:38.it means to the rest of them. They are also excited. It is the captain
:40:39. > :40:45.Hannah Kruger that is doing it the carrying. And all the goals that New
:40:46. > :40:49.Zealand had pretend you're in full play because not find the touch and
:40:50. > :40:55.finishing in the semifinal and then the bronze medal match. Finishing
:40:56. > :41:00.and that circle eluding them. It was a much better game overall. That
:41:01. > :41:03.bronze medal match has so much going for but Germany broke it open.
:41:04. > :41:10.Scored those two goals and made New Zealand work ever so hard to get one
:41:11. > :41:14.goal. After the to be more pragmatic, New Zealand. They passed
:41:15. > :41:19.up opportunities with the could have shot but they tried to make that
:41:20. > :41:22.extra pass. It is all about trusting your instincts and playing
:41:23. > :41:30.spontaneously. We have seen that from Germany. That is Sophie Alton
:41:31. > :41:34.book coming out onto the pitch. She's been tossed around the German
:41:35. > :41:44.team. It is such a wonderful sight to see young people at the Olympics.
:41:45. > :41:50.HAZEL IRVINE: another future medallist? Congratulations to
:41:51. > :41:56.Germany since Athens 12 years ago. They take the bronze medal. For the
:41:57. > :42:00.black sticks, a second Olympics and succession they have finished in
:42:01. > :42:10.fourth place and that has to hurt. Able comeback for Tokyo. We were so
:42:11. > :42:16.used to seeing Usain Bolt of the world stage is as hard to think of
:42:17. > :42:21.an Olympics without him. To quote Jody Mitchell, you do not know what
:42:22. > :42:26.you have got until it has gone. I do not know what we will do without
:42:27. > :42:31.them. Last night, Steve Cram said it could be his last time over 200
:42:32. > :42:50.metres. If it was, what a way to go out, this was.
:42:51. > :42:58.COMMENTATOR: Monmore spin round the bend. Usain Bolt, perhaps, for the
:42:59. > :43:03.very last time goes into his blocks at the start of the 200 metres. The
:43:04. > :43:11.journey which began when he was just 15 years of age. Quite please, Mr
:43:12. > :43:20.Ball is about to start. He gets away well.
:43:21. > :43:28.Usain Bolt on his own as he has been for his entire career. Usain Bolt
:43:29. > :43:32.running away from everybody. Running to what he would love to be
:43:33. > :43:38.immortality as an athlete. 19.79 seconds. It is gold. His eighth
:43:39. > :43:53.gold. If we never see him again in a 200
:43:54. > :44:02.metres final data will be a real shame but what we need to do is to
:44:03. > :44:08.reflect on what this man has done. He worked so hard for 20 years, one
:44:09. > :44:12.that moment comes, it is a relief. You want it so much in so many
:44:13. > :44:17.things could go wrong. I ran hard on the term and nine on the street,...
:44:18. > :44:23.I looked around and I'm getting older. I am not young. I know what I
:44:24. > :44:28.need to do. I know if I do not do it will not be the same. I have to come
:44:29. > :44:32.out and get it done and that is my focus. Is this your last 200 metres
:44:33. > :44:41.at a major championship? I would like to say so but my coach has a
:44:42. > :44:44.way of convincing me. On behalf of all athletics fans, thank you very
:44:45. > :44:50.much, Usain Bolt. It might not be over. He is going for the final part
:44:51. > :44:58.of the trilogy. The sprint relay tonight. That will be at about
:44:59. > :45:04.2:30am and worth waiting for. And well done to Adam Gemili, he was
:45:05. > :45:08.just off the bronze medal. He was given the same time on the scoring
:45:09. > :45:12.as Christophe Lemaitre but he was given the bronze medal, the
:45:13. > :45:13.Frenchman. You get the feeling that Adam Gemili will be around for a
:45:14. > :45:27.long time. Nick Skelton has been around for a
:45:28. > :45:33.long time and show-jumping, and then -- Ben Mayer, very much part of the
:45:34. > :45:38.final of the individual show-jumping, Great Britain has not
:45:39. > :45:47.won a medal for 44 years, but things look particularly good for Nick
:45:48. > :46:05.Skelton this morning. It has all gone a little bit harsh.
:46:06. > :46:14.-- hushed. The Brazilian riders in the ring, one of those who had four
:46:15. > :46:20.faults, as did Ben Mayer, and because so many were on four, 27 are
:46:21. > :46:25.taking part in this competition this afternoon.
:46:26. > :46:33.How significantly different is the course concurred with this morning?
:46:34. > :46:37.It is still a big course and it comes down to 68 seconds to take in
:46:38. > :46:44.the ten fences. The horses will have two motor around, but these are big,
:46:45. > :46:49.white fences, these rights, so it really will be interesting to watch
:46:50. > :46:53.first couple, as all the top riders are doing, to see the best way
:46:54. > :47:01.around the course. And great so far for the French,
:47:02. > :47:07.with the eventing, but who do you tip to look out for, apart from the
:47:08. > :47:14.British, obviously? It would be fantastic if Nick
:47:15. > :47:23.Skelton and Big Star could get a medal, they really felt they should
:47:24. > :47:27.have got one in London, and Germany have two Mac riders in the top 13
:47:28. > :47:33.with no penalties, they really will want to write some wrongs, cause
:47:34. > :47:37.they were to dominate across all equestrian fields in these games but
:47:38. > :47:44.it has not happened and they will be determined to leave with a gold.
:47:45. > :47:47.Thank you for setting it up, let's join the commentators for the final
:47:48. > :47:54.round in this individual show-jumping competition.
:47:55. > :48:06.The tension is really building, the first of the 27, completing a clear
:48:07. > :48:16.round inside the time. The crowd have absolutely gone wild. Now we
:48:17. > :48:22.are going to watch the Swedish rider Henrik Von Eckermann, one of 12 who
:48:23. > :48:40.got four faults in the first round. 68 seconds is the time they have got
:48:41. > :48:51.to get round. Henrik sets off at a really strong pace. The time should
:48:52. > :48:58.be doable. A big sweep around, a lot of room to make up. Very very
:48:59. > :49:05.careful going in. A week stretch in the middle. These riders, if they
:49:06. > :49:10.get any more fences down their individual hopes will be completely
:49:11. > :49:15.gone. With as many clear round as we have
:49:16. > :49:21.the medals are likely to come from those clear round, don't you think?
:49:22. > :49:27.Yes, and with another fence down it is definitely all over for Henrik.
:49:28. > :49:33.That massive double. It seems to be jumping quite well but it is
:49:34. > :49:40.absolutely huge, 190 wide, a very big fence to finish.
:49:41. > :49:49.12 in this round, for in the previous, -- four, he is not through
:49:50. > :49:56.to this individual final, Von Eckermann of Sweden, a score of 60.
:49:57. > :50:06.It is so much about the dimensions of the course more than the
:50:07. > :50:17.technicalities. We watch the round of Henrik Von Eckermann and we get
:50:18. > :50:26.the news that Harrie Smolders is not going in this final individual
:50:27. > :50:33.round, so incomes Ben Maher of Britain, with Tic Tac, the horse
:50:34. > :50:39.brilliantly ridden in the previous round, but at a disadvantage with
:50:40. > :50:46.his four faults. The bill has been wrong. Not quite ready, warned to
:50:47. > :50:55.hold. Now he is given the all clear to start.
:50:56. > :51:07.With this big jump, he and his stallion, not being together that
:51:08. > :51:12.long, using pace, which has been a feature of his week, one or two back
:51:13. > :51:17.rails down. With two Mac fences down I think he will probably retire.
:51:18. > :51:24.Just see what he does from here on in. He is a fighter, Ben Maher, has
:51:25. > :51:31.been working hard all week, but has not had the best of luck. He is
:51:32. > :51:40.pressing on. Ten fences on this course. A big open five strides, up
:51:41. > :51:46.to fence seven. Just reminding everybody watching that lots of
:51:47. > :51:53.riders are coming in that have already jumped clear. So any of
:51:54. > :51:56.these early riders with four faults, any more faults at all and their
:51:57. > :52:03.chances are gone, and that another one there into the double. Coming to
:52:04. > :52:10.the last on a score of 12. High and wide. He has got a time fought to
:52:11. > :52:16.add as well. It is a total of 13 in this round. 17 for the two Mac
:52:17. > :52:21.rounds for Great Britain's Ben Maher, on a horse he has not been
:52:22. > :52:25.riding that long. He has done well and you can see the intense
:52:26. > :52:30.pressure. This really is a proper Olympic track, there are not many
:52:31. > :52:36.fillers, which means the horses have just got light poles to jump.
:52:37. > :52:57.Absolute maximum height. Allowed to build jumps up to one metre 60. And
:52:58. > :53:10.we have spreads of up to 1.90. Ironic, is out goes Ben Maher and
:53:11. > :53:15.incomes the horse who took London gold, and this classic Canadian lady
:53:16. > :53:35.rider, Tiffany Foster, has really ridden this horse very well indeed.
:53:36. > :53:41.Canada also has Eric Le Mans, on a clear round, Canada have been up
:53:42. > :53:46.there with the best teams throughout this competition. They missed out on
:53:47. > :53:51.a medal in the end having jumped off with Germany for the bronze, but
:53:52. > :53:55.this combination is certainly played their part in the jump off, it was
:53:56. > :53:59.not for the want of trying from Triple X III and Tiffany. Canada's
:54:00. > :54:20.Tiffany Foster, and Triple X III. Show-jumping, normally a rattle like
:54:21. > :54:32.that the fence would come down. But it has stayed there.
:54:33. > :54:43.This track is really proving to be so difficult. Just that one clear
:54:44. > :54:49.round so far from the first to go, Luciana Diniz, and since then we
:54:50. > :54:57.have seen a lot of polls come down. A big horse like Triple X III, it is
:54:58. > :55:03.very hot, probably just tiring coming into the jump. That's right,
:55:04. > :55:09.there is a bit of a breeze, but these horses, we had the final team
:55:10. > :55:12.round on Wednesday, a day off yesterday, but this second round
:55:13. > :55:19.today is in extreme heat and you do get the feeling that the horses look
:55:20. > :55:24.a bit jaded. Another time fault. 17 for this round, and the individual
:55:25. > :55:33.total, Tiffany Foster of Canada, on 21. Triple X III, big strong horse,
:55:34. > :55:38.carrying bulk and timber, it is the way he is built, just starting to
:55:39. > :55:43.struggle in the heat, jumped bail offences, was involved in the
:55:44. > :55:50.jumpoff for Canada, just tiring for this round. -- jumped a lot of
:55:51. > :55:56.fences. This really is tiring, big, big fences.
:55:57. > :56:02.A quick reminder that there are 12 to jump first, all with four faults,
:56:03. > :56:10.then two Mac with one time fault, then we go into the clear rounds.
:56:11. > :56:17.That is where Nick Skelton is at the moment with Big Star, still very
:56:18. > :56:23.much in contention for a medal, what he has dreamt of for four years.
:56:24. > :56:32.This is now the very talented French rider Philippe Rozier with four
:56:33. > :56:37.faults from the first round, another one goes. But he has had a game is
:56:38. > :56:42.to dream of. Comes in is reserved for the French, brings home team
:56:43. > :56:48.gold, and a chance for silver or bronze in the individual, I think,
:56:49. > :56:54.gone now. The tough thing with this course is not only the dimensions,
:56:55. > :56:58.there are a lot of very light fences, not a great deal of
:56:59. > :57:02.substance to the jumps to get the horses in the air. And you cannot
:57:03. > :57:10.ride at these fences without a fair bit of pace. Again, the polls
:57:11. > :57:14.starting to come down. A big strong stallion tiring in the heat. The
:57:15. > :57:18.horses, with that extra bit of energy and fizz, they are going to
:57:19. > :57:30.be much happier with these conditions. Eight, the jump in
:57:31. > :57:33.total. Playing an important part again, as you might have expected,
:57:34. > :57:38.time and not play a big part in the first round but it is this time.
:57:39. > :57:43.That is a total of nine for the second round and he goes on to a
:57:44. > :57:48.score of 13, the Frenchman, Philippe Rozier. He just could not keep his
:57:49. > :58:18.horse careful. They do love the horses, there are a
:58:19. > :58:34.lot of young people here, so good to see, as incomes the 33-year-old
:58:35. > :58:41.Pedro Veniss, speaks four languages, riding Quabri L'Isles, the French
:58:42. > :58:47.bred stallion. There are a lot of people with some very good horses,
:58:48. > :59:00.he is one of the world's leading show-jumping sires. Quite
:59:01. > :59:05.extraordinary, this round, Luciana Diniz, came in first, jumped a clear
:59:06. > :59:08.round in the time, and since then nothing like a clear round. Gives
:59:09. > :59:33.you some idea of how tough this is. He is taking his time around here,
:59:34. > :59:45.Pedro. Quite a long way to go to the finish and he has got less than ten
:59:46. > :59:57.seconds. He has jumped it clear but he has got the one time fault. That
:59:58. > :00:02.puts him on a score of five. For the two rounds, I cannot see him winning
:00:03. > :00:08.a medal on it, but he does himself no harm, and the crowd are just
:00:09. > :00:12.going mad. Decided not to worry about time, kept it deliberate, kept
:00:13. > :00:19.the horse Allinson, fantastic efforts. -- kept the horse balanced.
:00:20. > :00:26.And the home crowd have got some atmosphere now, they loved it.
:00:27. > :00:35.Britain are still in with a chance of a medal. That would be wonderful.
:00:36. > :00:47.If Britain could achieve another medal.
:00:48. > :01:01.We have got some more to come, five of them in all. The competition is
:01:02. > :01:10.ratcheting up gradually. We thought there might be one or two... Harrie
:01:11. > :01:19.Smolders has not brought his horse through to this. Qatar and the first
:01:20. > :01:20.Olympics are performed well. They have got two riders in this final
:01:21. > :01:52.stage. One thing down in that first round.
:01:53. > :02:18.His first Olympics. They take part in both.
:02:19. > :02:29.This will be interesting to watch as he got the class and quality to keep
:02:30. > :02:35.jumping? We know he has got the ability. Interestingly, trying to
:02:36. > :02:43.move up. He had some time faults during the competition and does not
:02:44. > :02:43.need one here. Tremendous power down the combination. That was
:02:44. > :03:08.impressive. It is one of the horses to emerge as
:03:09. > :03:13.a world-class jumping machine. Absolutely brilliant through the
:03:14. > :03:25.trying to gallop to the last and will not make it. The last five have
:03:26. > :03:33.all had time faults. It is one time fault. He is another who finishes on
:03:34. > :03:46.five for the two rounds in the individual championship. What a
:03:47. > :03:51.spectacular horse mackerel three as. Sting Street in his body. Lots of
:03:52. > :03:56.hate, front-end and back-end. It would be a joy to ride a horse like
:03:57. > :04:01.that. And the joy of being here, we have seen so many of them, it has
:04:02. > :04:10.been a spectacle. It has been a feast of jumping this week. That
:04:11. > :04:16.horse has emerged with credit. France, could they get a double,
:04:17. > :04:23.could they build on the team show-jumping gold? That was a
:04:24. > :04:29.tremendous performance. The man we see now is Kevin Stout. He has been
:04:30. > :04:33.any French team every championship since 2007. In 2009 he won the
:04:34. > :04:42.European title individually at Windsor. He is riding the very
:04:43. > :04:51.reliable Reveur De Hurtebise. 15 years old now. They had one fence
:04:52. > :05:22.down and the last round. We only have the one double clear.
:05:23. > :05:28.You would expect to go inside the time. I would be surprised if he
:05:29. > :05:34.gets a time fault. He has that elegant French way of riding, like
:05:35. > :05:44.seat. Always travelling. Having to work very hard down the combination.
:05:45. > :05:56.Brilliantly written so far. Not one fence down. This is the fence he had
:05:57. > :06:05.in the last round. He is galloping into the triple bar. And maybe got
:06:06. > :06:11.tight to it. Both parts have gone. Kevin Stout is not going to win a
:06:12. > :06:16.medal today. He will go home of the team gold. It is a... In this
:06:17. > :06:19.individual round. Four in the first and total of 12 for the star
:06:20. > :06:36.Frenchman, Kevin Stout. We still have Roger Yves Bost to
:06:37. > :06:43.come. Number nine is such a big fence. Very hard to jump that, wider
:06:44. > :06:48.triple bar. Enormous amount of power without using pace. When you use
:06:49. > :06:58.that pace, the shape of the junk goes. These horses and riders go
:06:59. > :07:00.right to the limit. America, this combination was a potential
:07:01. > :07:05.individual gold medal winner but it is not to be. He had one fence down
:07:06. > :07:19.and a first round. It is McLain Ward. He is on Azur. He won lots of
:07:20. > :07:24.Grand Prix is at the top level this year. He's going to go home with the
:07:25. > :07:35.team silver. An individual medal now is unlikely for this combination.
:07:36. > :07:38.Some of the other sports are predictable at times but not
:07:39. > :07:41.show-jumping. You'd never know what will happen next. This combination
:07:42. > :07:46.is definitely one of the big favourites. One fence down at all
:07:47. > :08:20.and his chances have gone. You could hear him save whoa but he
:08:21. > :08:28.got it. He has left everything intact. Clear round. He is like
:08:29. > :08:34.Luciana Diniz. We have got an equal first place at this point of time.
:08:35. > :08:40.The American McLain Ward and the Portuguese rider Luciana Diniz.
:08:41. > :08:46.Watching this round, this is why you can see the ability of Azur. Super
:08:47. > :08:49.accurate rider, McLain Ward. That is why they were so well fancied. Still
:08:50. > :09:13.carrying those four faults. The crowd has fallen remarkably
:09:14. > :09:38.quiet for a Brazilian rider to come in. It is Alvaro de Miranda.
:09:39. > :09:41.He is on Cornetto K. He is a man that has been based in Europe and
:09:42. > :09:53.has been successful for many years. Although the distance problems on
:09:54. > :09:59.this course are very straightforward. It is just about if
:10:00. > :10:01.you have enough jump. Visual horse going to operate? Can he dig deep if
:10:02. > :10:30.he's tired? It is close going into the double.
:10:31. > :10:44.He jumped it. The crowd sitting very nervously. He has always been
:10:45. > :10:55.stylish. He is clear and the second round two round total of four.
:10:56. > :11:04.There are three on four faults that are waiting to jump on the medals.
:11:05. > :11:09.These later riders coming in, they have had some that are clear. Any
:11:10. > :11:16.mistake and they are going to be in trouble. I think we are still going
:11:17. > :11:21.to get some double clears. It is all he can do. Very good style. George
:11:22. > :11:25.Morris taking on the training of the Brazilians just this year for the
:11:26. > :11:31.Olympic Games. He retired from the American job. He has really wonder
:11:32. > :11:45.them up to some very good show-jumping here. Now it is one of
:11:46. > :11:58.the stars from the Dutch. It is Maikel van der Vleuten with Verdi.
:11:59. > :12:07.He is one fence down. They did have somebody go clear that was Jeroen
:12:08. > :12:11.Dubbeldam. Not even Maikel van der Vleuten could do anything to get the
:12:12. > :12:15.Dutch ET medal at the European Championships. That was a surprise.
:12:16. > :12:25.-- 18 medal. Verdi is tithing. He is a big,
:12:26. > :12:31.heavily built stallion. He had a lazy jump.
:12:32. > :12:47.-- tiring. The Dutch are not had the best Championships one fence down
:12:48. > :12:49.and some of the other riders on four faults have went clear. The
:12:50. > :12:59.individual hopes have gone for Maikel van der Vleuten. They still
:13:00. > :13:01.have one more to come. It is Jeroen Dubbeldam. It is not quite over for
:13:02. > :13:14.them yet. That is typical Verdi. That big
:13:15. > :13:25.double. It is so difficult to jump but it is very easy. Good round.
:13:26. > :13:30.Nine overall for Maikel van der Vleuten from Holland.
:13:31. > :13:36.HAZEL IRVINE: Nick Skelton, the big star, about seven minutes away. Two
:13:37. > :13:41.more competitors before Nick Skelton and his seventh Olympic steps in for
:13:42. > :13:46.Great Britain. Thank to win his first medal in this event, the
:13:47. > :13:50.individual jumping, since 1972. It has been 44 John Beers. We will
:13:51. > :13:55.completely destroyed in the individual show-jumping over on the
:13:56. > :14:02.other side. We are popping over to BBC Two. We will see you there.
:14:03. > :14:13.in a brand-new BBC Two quiz show, Debatable,
:14:14. > :14:16.where a team of celebrities put their debating skills to the test
:14:17. > :14:19.to try to win their contestants pots of cash.
:14:20. > :14:22.Will they help, or will they hinder?
