:00:59. > :01:15.It's the sport that prompted a memorable line. "Where Were the

:01:16. > :01:31.Germans? And frankly, who cares? ." Great Britain's women have 12 medals

:01:32. > :01:37.but they have never been to the Olympic final. Holland are the

:01:38. > :01:41.reigning European champions, they are going for their third Olympic

:01:42. > :01:49.gold in succession. The Dutch, formidable, but hopefully, not a

:01:50. > :01:57.task beyond words. Great Britain are in the Olympic final. For Kate

:01:58. > :02:01.Richardson-Walsh and her team, this is their moment, the gold medal

:02:02. > :02:04.match for the very first time in a history of women's hockey in Great

:02:05. > :02:13.Britain, they are into the file. This could be the biggest moment in

:02:14. > :02:17.hockey ever, because going back to 1988, that final took place at 6am

:02:18. > :02:20.on a Sunday morning, this is happening at nine o'clock, and pets

:02:21. > :02:26.are even watching it if the Internet is anything to go by. It will be an

:02:27. > :02:29.incredibly interesting match, at a Diadoro, a lot of Team GB athletes

:02:30. > :02:32.are there to support them. The blue pitch will be familiar, it

:02:33. > :02:37.is what they have been training on. The man who has coached them to this

:02:38. > :02:40.stage is Danny Perry and he is with Rishi Persad. For the last 48 hours,

:02:41. > :02:42.there has been a lot of hype and expectation. Is it something the

:02:43. > :02:45.team has been embracing or something you have kept out of their ear shot

:02:46. > :02:47.and concentration? It will be difficult to stop the noise.

:02:48. > :02:51.Everywhere, people have been wishing us luck and it is difficult to avoid

:02:52. > :02:54.that to an extent. The job of the staff and the athletes is to keep

:02:55. > :02:57.feet firmly on the floor and we have done that pretty well. We have had a

:02:58. > :03:00.good recovery today at the British School, and stuck to what we do,

:03:01. > :03:04.which isn't that exciting but has served us well so far. I think we

:03:05. > :03:09.have handled it very well and I think we are in the right place for

:03:10. > :03:14.this next match. How much does the focus of one more game, one game

:03:15. > :03:17.could change the history, although you have already created history, it

:03:18. > :03:22.could change it even further, how much does that play on your mind or

:03:23. > :03:26.the team's mind? We try not to get ahead of ourselves, we try to think,

:03:27. > :03:31.OK, what is the job when the ball gets pushed back, what do we do

:03:32. > :03:35.next? I think in doing that, we have consistently performed. I think we

:03:36. > :03:41.are aware of the ramifications of the gold-medal versus a silver

:03:42. > :03:44.medal, but we know we have already inspired a nation, inspired a future

:03:45. > :03:49.generation of hockey players, that is kind of in the bag, that is done.

:03:50. > :03:53.This really is about, what do we do at pushback, what we did after that

:03:54. > :03:57.and staying in the moment. That is the secret of success. What do you

:03:58. > :04:02.do against the Netherlands? They are going for three gold medals in row.

:04:03. > :04:07.As you say, three in a row and they have won the last two World Cups. So

:04:08. > :04:13.they have a great record, the foremost team in the world. They

:04:14. > :04:17.have some key players and we have to be diligent with those, and they

:04:18. > :04:20.play up particular style which is broad and wide and we have to make

:04:21. > :04:24.that work against them and exploit some of the opportunities that

:04:25. > :04:27.presents. So just stick to what we need to do when it matters most,

:04:28. > :04:32.look after the key players and execute. You have given a few bits

:04:33. > :04:36.of advice there. Is there one thing your team have to do tonight one

:04:37. > :04:42.thing they have to do above everything else to give of their

:04:43. > :04:46.best? I keep -- thing keep doing what you are doing, work hard for

:04:47. > :04:50.each other. This is the personality of the team and if they keep working

:04:51. > :04:53.for each other, we will be in good shape.

:04:54. > :04:57.Thank you be a time, we wish you the very best of luck.

:04:58. > :05:02.And Danny deserve so much credit for what he has done with the team,

:05:03. > :05:06.incredible strength in depth, seven different scorers so far with Alex

:05:07. > :05:08.Danson and Richardson was leading the way but everyone making a

:05:09. > :05:14.contribution and look at the difference over the last 12 years.

:05:15. > :05:18.In 2004, they didn't qualify for the Olympics, in 2008, they didn't get

:05:19. > :05:23.out of the group, in 2012, they won the bronze medal and here they are

:05:24. > :05:26.with a shot at goal. Kat Downes was behind-the-scenes in the stands with

:05:27. > :05:27.friends and family when they won the most important match so far, the

:05:28. > :05:46.semifinal. Alex Danson does what she does best.

:05:47. > :05:52.It is a gold for Great Britain. Great Britain have won it, they have

:05:53. > :05:57.defeated Argentina. Scores. Great Britain at the moment, the top team

:05:58. > :06:00.in the Olympic tournament. Sets up a semifinal against the black sticks,

:06:01. > :06:04.New Zealand. So this is it, the Olympic

:06:05. > :06:09.semifinal. Great Britain beat New Zealand four years ago in London to

:06:10. > :06:12.win bronze. Can they beat them again in Rio and give themselves a chance

:06:13. > :06:19.to go for gold? Terrific atmosphere tonight here at

:06:20. > :06:24.the Diadoro Olympic hockey Stadium. It has come to Thomson. It is wide.

:06:25. > :06:27.New Zealand coming forward at pace. They have a shot on goal. No, it is

:06:28. > :06:40.wide again. :. Saved. The drag flick. It is

:06:41. > :06:45.pushed home, it is scored. Alex Danson gets the first goal of the

:06:46. > :06:49.match for Great Britain. Really good first half of hockey. They have got

:06:50. > :06:54.everything there, they have trained so hard, they are not likely to let

:06:55. > :06:59.it go at this point. I admire your optimism. Fingers crossed.

:07:00. > :07:04.Everything crossed. You have come dressed to the occasion. And we are

:07:05. > :07:09.loving it, the crowd is unreal. Every person is screaming on GB and

:07:10. > :07:13.we are nailing it. You have worked up quite a sweat banging the drum.

:07:14. > :07:17.We have, but it has been worth it. Apparently, they are complaining,

:07:18. > :07:21.the New Zealanders but they will have to pry it from our dead hands

:07:22. > :07:24.before we give it up. We are going on. New

:07:25. > :07:34.possession one more time. Maddie Hinch off the line. Can they clear

:07:35. > :07:40.it? Here is Danson, she has found Helen Richardson-Walsh. Can she is

:07:41. > :07:45.caught? Penalty stroke. Penalty stroke awarded. And scores. And this

:07:46. > :07:53.is promising. As Lee. Penalty stroke again! Danson to put Great Britain

:07:54. > :08:00.three nil in front. She has got it. Danson scores per second, Great

:08:01. > :08:05.Britain are in the Olympic final! They have done it, they are through

:08:06. > :08:11.to their first Olympic final with seven wins out of seven. Can they

:08:12. > :08:16.now make it eight for a gold? This is wide, your daughter is an Olympic

:08:17. > :08:20.finalist. I know, we have worked so hard this, they are not going to

:08:21. > :08:26.lose it now, in for a gold medal chance there. Nicola, your mum and

:08:27. > :08:29.are so proud. I am so happy, the girls are ecstatic and I am sure the

:08:30. > :08:33.parents are as well. They are a of this journey as much as we are. So

:08:34. > :08:39.proud, the whole team were absolutely brilliant that game. What

:08:40. > :08:41.you saw today was the old will squad performance, people putting their

:08:42. > :08:46.bodies on the line, thinking clearly under pressure and doing the right

:08:47. > :08:50.thing at the right moment. Everybody, to a woman, stood up and

:08:51. > :08:56.did their job today. And for Kate Richardson-Walsh, this

:08:57. > :09:01.becomes her 375th cap and this will be her last match as captain. Here

:09:02. > :09:07.is the starting line-up. Maddie Hinch in goal. Crista Cullen has

:09:08. > :09:16.recovered from a bash in the semifinal and Alex Danson going so

:09:17. > :09:19.strongly. Georgie Twigg was injured in the semifinal, she will be used

:09:20. > :09:22.as a substitute and Helen Richardson-Walsh picked up a leg

:09:23. > :09:27.injury when she collided with the goalkeeper. She is also fit and will

:09:28. > :09:31.becoming off the subs bench. So it is a very strong squad, a strong

:09:32. > :09:36.starting line-up and they will of course use their substitutes. Mel, I

:09:37. > :09:41.know you were so excited when they got through to the final, are you

:09:42. > :09:45.feeling calm now? Not at all. The teams have come out to warm up and

:09:46. > :09:49.the atmosphere is already building. There is a huge following for the

:09:50. > :09:53.Dutch, naturally, but the Brits are doing their best to hold their own

:09:54. > :09:57.in the stands. Have you managed to talk to any of them all see how they

:09:58. > :10:02.were moving? I am thinking of Helen Richardson-Walsh, she is on the subs

:10:03. > :10:06.bench but that she looked fit and healthy? I spoke to Danny Kerry and

:10:07. > :10:08.asked him that question and he said Helen was fitness tested this

:10:09. > :10:13.morning and held her hands up and said if she is not 100%, she won't

:10:14. > :10:17.take the field. She said it isn't about her, but about the team and

:10:18. > :10:22.she came through it and it is a massive plus for the team. We talk

:10:23. > :10:26.about her wife Kate, who is captain, but for Helen, this is her fourth

:10:27. > :10:32.Olympics and she has come back from to back injuries that required

:10:33. > :10:36.surgery. She is an amazing story. They both are, she is so

:10:37. > :10:40.competitive, so highly driven and motivated and I think I speak for

:10:41. > :10:45.every British man that we hope they come off with a gold medal around

:10:46. > :10:50.their necks. Kate Lyster said her motto is "Feel the fear but do it

:10:51. > :10:57.anyway" -- Kate likes to say. Do you sense any fear from them? Not at

:10:58. > :11:00.all, it is what they wanted to do. Speaking to the Dutch press, it was

:11:01. > :11:03.the one team they didn't want to play, the Brits, and I can see it

:11:04. > :11:07.being a physical encounter and many of the girls have got into the

:11:08. > :11:13.mindset of the Dutch. I hope a lot of people will be tuning in back

:11:14. > :11:16.home. When they last met in the Euro league final, Great Britain won on

:11:17. > :11:21.penalties, it may have been England then, but Maddie Hinch played a

:11:22. > :11:24.crucial role. She is phenomenal in the shoot out but you have to get

:11:25. > :11:28.through 60 minutes of hockey before you get to that stage. She plays

:11:29. > :11:32.club hockey at Holkham but she will go into the Dutch league next year,

:11:33. > :11:37.so she will want to go there having one up on them and she is quoted as

:11:38. > :11:42.saying some of her new team-mates have already said, "Enjoy wearing

:11:43. > :11:46.that silver." She is one who will want to prove a point. Definitely.

:11:47. > :11:56.Mel, we will talk to you later, good luck with everything tonight. It

:11:57. > :11:58.will be sensational. There will be a wonderful atmosphere, a lot of

:11:59. > :12:01.British support but the Netherlands are a very strong side and the

:12:02. > :12:04.defending Olympic champions for the last two Olympic cycles. Before

:12:05. > :12:09.pushback, we have time to catch up on one of the newer supports here,

:12:10. > :12:13.BMX biking and news first on the Liam Philips, Britain's contender in

:12:14. > :12:17.the men's, who crashed out in the early stages. Team GB released a

:12:18. > :12:20.statement saying that following the crash, Liam suffered concussion that

:12:21. > :12:23.required further assessment in hospital as a precaution and has

:12:24. > :12:27.been discharged under medical supervision. The put up a lovely

:12:28. > :12:32.letter on social media where he thanked everybody who had got him

:12:33. > :12:36.back and to the start line in Rio, including the surgeons and physios

:12:37. > :12:40.and his girlfriend Jess Varnish. It is a brutal sport and when it comes

:12:41. > :12:46.to the final, it really is all or nothing. Here is the women's final

:12:47. > :12:52.first. The excitement building there, out

:12:53. > :12:57.on the outside line, Elke Vanhoof, very consistent, a top-10 finisher

:12:58. > :13:01.in all three Supercross races held so far in this calendar year.

:13:02. > :13:12.Next to her, from France, Manon Valentino, the world championship

:13:13. > :13:16.bronze-medallist three years ago. Last year's world champion next to

:13:17. > :13:20.her from Venezuela, Stephanie Hernandez. If she wins, she will

:13:21. > :13:28.become the first Venezuelan woman to ever win an Olympic gold medal. It

:13:29. > :13:33.is going to be tough in lane six. Speaker 989, Yaroslava Bondarenko

:13:34. > :13:37.from Russia, 19 years of age, fifth in the World Championships this year

:13:38. > :13:50.-- number 89. From the United States, one of two

:13:51. > :14:01.USA riders, Alise Post. World silver-medallist two years ago.

:14:02. > :14:03.Brooke Crain, fourth in the world championship last year, from

:14:04. > :14:08.California. Eighth in the Olympic final in London.

:14:09. > :14:21.Laura Smulders from the Netherlands. The Olympic bronze-medallist from

:14:22. > :14:28.London. A big roar from the crowd, big start. World champ, defending

:14:29. > :14:38.Olympic champion -- Big Star. Mariana Pajon from Colombia.

:14:39. > :14:48.Huge expectation, it seems like the whole crowd is Colombian. Can she

:14:49. > :14:51.deal with the pressure? Those eight riders get one shot at gold now. The

:14:52. > :15:01.BMX Olympic final. Bursting out of the gate. Pajon

:15:02. > :15:05.nearest the cam ra, good start made by Alise Post from the United

:15:06. > :15:11.States. Pajon has the inside track. Jumps the triples, through turn one,

:15:12. > :15:15.Valentino of France is down at the first turn. Pajon leads. The crowd

:15:16. > :15:18.beside themselves with excitement, being chased all the way by the

:15:19. > :15:22.American rider, Alise Post in second. Hernandez of Venezuela is

:15:23. > :15:25.third. Through the rhythm section they go. One more turn to go. Here

:15:26. > :15:31.they come now, into the finishing straight. She's going to do it for

:15:32. > :15:35.Colombia, Mariana Pajon successfully defends her world title. She beats

:15:36. > :15:40.Alise Post of the United States to the line. The Venezuelan, Stefany

:15:41. > :15:43.Hernandez, takes the bronze. What a moment, what a rider. The crowd have

:15:44. > :16:03.got what they came to see, a Colombain Gold Medal.

:16:04. > :16:18.The tough thing for him is being out in lane eight. He has won a world

:16:19. > :16:23.title from the outside lane. Eighth in the championship final. Connor

:16:24. > :16:25.Fields USA, seventh in the Olympic Games seven years ago. Former World

:16:26. > :17:06.Cup winner. Is this to be the greatest moment of

:17:07. > :17:15.the 25-year-old's career? From the United States, Nick Long.

:17:16. > :17:26.World bronze medallist, earlier in the summer. Now the two Aussies.

:17:27. > :17:36.Anthony Dean in the green helmet. Superbly consistent in the semifinal

:17:37. > :17:43.and in the quarters. Sam Willoughby, two time Olympic champion, Olympic

:17:44. > :17:50.Silver Medallist in London. His fiance, Alise Post, has just taken

:17:51. > :17:53.the silver in the women's race. Caroline Buchanan there who would

:17:54. > :18:01.have loved to have been in the women's final.

:18:02. > :18:07.The Gold Medal awaits for one of these eight.

:18:08. > :18:17.Riders ready, watch the gate... Away they go in the Olympic final.

:18:18. > :18:23.Leading on the inside, Sam Willoughby. Good start by Connor

:18:24. > :18:26.Fields. Round the first corner. The Australian has lost his way. It's a

:18:27. > :18:34.one, two for the United States at the moment. Nick Long leads the way.

:18:35. > :18:42.Connor Fields in second place. USA one, USA two. Nick Kimmann

:18:43. > :18:48.challenging moment. Here up towards the line. It's going to go to the

:18:49. > :18:54.USA. And Connor Fields is the Olympic champion ahead of Jelle Van

:18:55. > :18:59.Gorkom and Nick Long grabs the bronze for the Americans. They are

:19:00. > :19:03.victorious. Connor Fields, who went into the Olympic final four years

:19:04. > :19:11.ago as the favourite, but ended up in seventh place, delivered in the

:19:12. > :19:14.biggest race of his life. The USA stretch their lead at the top of the

:19:15. > :19:15.medals table. More British contributions today. Here are the

:19:16. > :19:24.headlines.. Nick Skelton has become Great

:19:25. > :19:29.Britain's first ever individual Olympic showjumping champion. The

:19:30. > :19:37.58-year-old went clear on Big Star to become Britain's oldest Gold

:19:38. > :19:42.Medallist for over a century. Boxer Joe Joyce is guaranteed at

:19:43. > :19:46.least a Silver Medal after winning through to Sunday's superheavyweight

:19:47. > :19:54.final, where he'll aim to succeed Anthony Joshua as Olympic champion.

:19:55. > :20:03.Nice moves, Joe! Lutalo Muhammad is into the semifinals of the men's

:20:04. > :20:08.taekwondo 80 kg division. The semifinals are 9. 15pm tonight live

:20:09. > :20:11.on BBC Four. And Canada beat Brazil 2-1 to win

:20:12. > :20:15.the bronze medal in the women's football. The second consecutive

:20:16. > :20:19.bronze for the Canadians. The host will be hoping the men's team can

:20:20. > :20:24.provide them with Olympic cheer in tomorrow's final. We're building up

:20:25. > :20:29.to the women's hockey final. Before they headed out here to Rio, I had

:20:30. > :20:33.the chance to catch up with three of the key players, captain, Kate

:20:34. > :20:38.Richardson-Walsh, goalkeeper Maddie Hinch and a woman who will be one of

:20:39. > :20:41.the main attacking threats, Georgy Twigg. They knew they were on the

:20:42. > :20:48.verge of something special, even then.

:20:49. > :20:59.COMMENTATOR: Great Britain have won the bronze medal. Have you noticed

:21:00. > :21:04.much more interest in you and in hockey generally since the Olympics?

:21:05. > :21:08.Yeah, definitely. The recent Europeans, we were sold out at Lee

:21:09. > :21:12.Valley. Participation of hockey has definitely grown since London 2012.

:21:13. > :21:17.You know, my hockey club at the weekend, we have at least 900 kids,

:21:18. > :21:21.maybe a thousand kids turning up, which is fantastic. Last August, the

:21:22. > :21:30.European Championships were staged in London. What happened? So, we got

:21:31. > :21:32.into the final and we were up against the Netherlands, the current

:21:33. > :21:36.Olympic and world champions. We battled through to the end and got

:21:37. > :21:39.to the shootout. COMMENTATOR: That will do very

:21:40. > :21:46.nicely indeed. England are the champions. Maddie Hinch is the hero

:21:47. > :21:49.of England! I think we've got every chance of winning a Gold Medal.

:21:50. > :21:52.We've shown that now as we've just really progressed as a side and

:21:53. > :21:56.started to pick up more medals along the way. The Europeans, even though

:21:57. > :22:00.it was England, was a massive turning point as a programme and as

:22:01. > :22:03.a group. Not having quite ever reached that Gold Medal standard

:22:04. > :22:07.meant you never really quite fully understood what it took to get there

:22:08. > :22:10.or what it feels like. I remember afterwards thinking straight away,

:22:11. > :22:15.if that's what a European Gold Medal feels like, what on earth would an

:22:16. > :22:18.Olympic Gold Medal feel like? It's given everyone that extra push to

:22:19. > :22:23.make sure we go out there and give it our absolute best and leave no

:22:24. > :22:24.stone unturned and be ready. COMMENTATOR: A fantastic

:22:25. > :22:30.performance. What a tournament they've had. Yet to lose a match.

:22:31. > :22:37.They've won the most important one so far, comfortably. How much home

:22:38. > :22:43.work do you do on the opposition, as well as working on your own

:22:44. > :22:45.technique and strength and game, how much are you mugging up on them?

:22:46. > :22:50.Many, many hours. Our coaching staff, we have an analyst, Amber is

:22:51. > :22:56.just phenomenal, what she does and how she breaks the game down. We can

:22:57. > :23:01.go up there and look at any game, in I player, any Ed its, any moment of

:23:02. > :23:07.the game and she can pull it out and we look at it in detail. We can slow

:23:08. > :23:11.mo it and get it from a couple of angles. Hours are spent, OK, I'm

:23:12. > :23:14.going to likely play against these forwards, what do they do. What do

:23:15. > :23:20.they revert to under pressure, what is their type? And how do I need to

:23:21. > :23:23.play against that? When we go to tournaments, that's our strength and

:23:24. > :23:26.Danny's strength as coach, is the tactical set up. It's one of the

:23:27. > :23:33.best in the world. COMMENTATOR: Great Britain are in

:23:34. > :23:36.the Olympic final. And here we go. Everything they have prepared for

:23:37. > :23:39.will now come down to this match against the Netherlands, a rematch

:23:40. > :23:44.of the European Championships, same rules, if it's a draw at the ebbed

:23:45. > :23:46.of the -- end of the four quarters, it goes straight to penalties.

:23:47. > :23:55.Maddie Hinch will be prepared for that. Let's hand you over to Rishi.

:23:56. > :23:59.Hearts beating, just a bit faster, palms are sweaty. Simon alongside me

:24:00. > :24:03.looking cool. We've spoken a lot about the significance of this

:24:04. > :24:07.match. Not just for Great Britain's women's team, but in the history of

:24:08. > :24:13.British teams, taking part in the Olympics, for all time. It's huge.

:24:14. > :24:17.This could have an impact across so many different sports to give a

:24:18. > :24:20.belief that those groups of people who come together collectively, it's

:24:21. > :24:24.a different dynamic. This could prove that the investment in those

:24:25. > :24:30.team sports are wholly worthwhile and will have long-lasting effects.

:24:31. > :24:34.Danny's team has overcome every challenge so far. Unbeaten in seven

:24:35. > :24:39.matches coming into the final. The Dutch, though, provide a whole new

:24:40. > :24:43.test and a whole new challenge. They have such a wellth of experience.

:24:44. > :24:46.They're going for their third Gold Medal. The Olympics is such a

:24:47. > :24:48.different competition. It doesn't mat wear you've done at Europeans

:24:49. > :24:52.and worlds. This is about Olympic experience. There are so many

:24:53. > :24:57.distractions. Great Britain have tried to shut themselves off from

:24:58. > :25:03.those. They've talked about just one more game. After the semifinal

:25:04. > :25:06.success, Danny, Kerry and Kate were saying keep their feet on the floor

:25:07. > :25:10.and do everything they've done in every match so far. But of course,

:25:11. > :25:15.they have been dealt all the interest and hype that everyone's

:25:16. > :25:17.put on them. Around the village, the teams just preparing to come out,

:25:18. > :25:23.everyone wishing them luck. It's hard to get away from that. How do

:25:24. > :25:26.they keep focussed? By doing the leg work before they get here. They know

:25:27. > :25:29.that everything they've done, the preparation, and that's what it's

:25:30. > :25:33.about, it's about that instinctive and intimate knowledge and belief in

:25:34. > :25:39.yourself so there are no questions left. They're not walking out to

:25:40. > :25:43.this cacophony of noise thinking, what do we do now? They will have

:25:44. > :25:46.prepared for. It it's getting to the first whistle with the composure

:25:47. > :25:52.they need. The two teams are out. This is the final line-up. It's the

:25:53. > :25:54.first final for Great Britain in their history. Time for the National

:25:55. > :27:54.Anthems. Emotions running high, Simon, a last

:27:55. > :27:59.word on what we can expect in the final. Passion, intensity, two

:28:00. > :28:03.groups of players who've prepared for four years to get to this point.

:28:04. > :28:06.They'll leave it all out there. There isn't time for doubt. It's

:28:07. > :28:08.about knowing what you've done, trusting that preparation, putting

:28:09. > :28:13.it into practice, make your coach happy. As you say, four years of

:28:14. > :28:18.blood, sweat and tears, literally. Even in the semifinal, we saw it

:28:19. > :28:26.from Crista Cullen and Georgy Twigg. We are ready. Can daddy Kerry's team

:28:27. > :28:34.climb the mountain one more time? Time to head to the commentary box.

:28:35. > :28:39.COMMENTATOR: Good evening everybody. Yes, we're ready here for 60 minutes

:28:40. > :28:44.of blood, sweat and ultimately tears, one way or the other. The

:28:45. > :29:03.stands are filling up, almost at capacity now.

:29:04. > :29:09.The by-line from Kate Richardson-Walsh was "nice and calm"

:29:10. > :29:13.in the huddle. Alyson Annan-Thate the coach of the Netherlands had a

:29:14. > :29:17.strange moment in the semifinal, after the fourth quarter she went

:29:18. > :29:21.into the huddle and started giving instructions to the players, saying,

:29:22. > :29:25.keep your marking tight, play the ball crisply, keep an eye on each

:29:26. > :29:29.other. The players said, coach, it's a penalty shootout. She wasn't

:29:30. > :29:34.aware. She'd lost her way in the match. Blamed it on the heat of the

:29:35. > :29:38.sun. Didn't matter ultimately, they won the shootout. Here they are in

:29:39. > :29:43.the Gold Medal match. The Dutch will be playing in their change strip of

:29:44. > :29:54.grey, attacking the goal away to our left.

:29:55. > :30:00.Great Britain in their favoured all red strip. Hitting away to our

:30:01. > :30:20.right. Hold tight, here we go. A gold medal on the line. Crista

:30:21. > :30:24.Cullen, bruised, battered and scarred after her countless displays

:30:25. > :30:31.of courage throughout this tournament. Cullen number five for

:30:32. > :30:34.Great Britain, on the right. Taken off in the semifinal, returned with

:30:35. > :30:40.eight stitches in her forehead ten minutes later. Time to say good

:30:41. > :30:50.evening to melt flew low. Good evening, everybody -- Mel Clewlow. I

:30:51. > :30:54.haven't seen a group of players so focused in my life. To know they are

:30:55. > :30:59.playing for an Olympic gold medal, it is not only fantastic for hockey,

:31:00. > :31:04.it is fantastic for British sport and I join lots of you at home

:31:05. > :31:09.hoping they come back with the ultimate prize. Alex Thomson's ball

:31:10. > :31:20.just run out of play. She is Great Britain's top scorer in the

:31:21. > :31:29.tournament so far, with five goals. Hollie Webb gets stuck in. The the

:31:30. > :31:38.break forward, the Dutch are threatening in the early stages.

:31:39. > :31:44.Laura Unsworth, as ever, reliable. So far, Laura Unsworth has been

:31:45. > :31:49.absolutely unshakeable at the back. She mops up anything that any of the

:31:50. > :31:52.marking players can't get to. She has the free role and more often

:31:53. > :31:57.than not, she is in the right place at the right time. First touch for

:31:58. > :32:00.Susannah Townsend. She could be a game changer for Great Britain this

:32:01. > :32:10.evening with her speed across the pitch and her close contact all

:32:11. > :32:15.skills. Sophie Bray. Loses possession. Free hit to Holland.

:32:16. > :32:24.This is one of their danger players, van As. That was a good return, but

:32:25. > :32:30.not as precise as she was hoping for. Ellen Hoog. Van As will try and

:32:31. > :32:36.slide it into the circle. The tackle comes in from Hollie Webb. Nicola

:32:37. > :32:42.White back to Hollie Webb, who thought about going aerial.

:32:43. > :32:50.Eventually plays it off the Dutch ship and web will restart -- sheen.

:32:51. > :32:59.The fascinating matchup for me this evening is I don't think the Dutch

:33:00. > :33:05.have a very fast backline at all, will mean boss place in the middle,

:33:06. > :33:11.Paramount, they are not the quickest players, they will be up against the

:33:12. > :33:15.likes of Alex Townson, Townson, all have pace. Danny Kerry in the

:33:16. > :33:21.familiar red baseball cap, compelled every step of the way. Kate

:33:22. > :33:31.Richardson-Walsh playing her final international tonight. Unsworth in a

:33:32. > :33:35.forward position. Owsley back to Unsworth. A little turn and go to

:33:36. > :33:47.Hannah MacLeod. Drifting forward. Add to the left. That was McCallan

:33:48. > :33:50.who fail to get stick on board. Van Male did a good job tracking her but

:33:51. > :33:55.then lost out on the ball came through. I don't think McCallan

:33:56. > :34:00.realised how fortunate you was to be in that much space. Not often we

:34:01. > :34:06.have seen it in the tournament but that is OK, it is allowed to happen.

:34:07. > :34:09.That is off the foot of Laura Unsworth, free hit right on the

:34:10. > :34:17.halfway line. Four quarters of 15 minutes each. The gold medal match

:34:18. > :34:25.in the women's Olympic hockey tournament. Naomi van As on the

:34:26. > :34:29.left. Good acceleration. Maddie Hinch aware that there wasn't a

:34:30. > :34:35.touch on it, just allowed the ball to pass through her legs and strike

:34:36. > :34:38.the backboard. It is a tough ask but if Great Britain can score first,

:34:39. > :34:42.that is where you start to get into the minds of the Dutch. They are so

:34:43. > :34:46.used to winning matches, that winning mentality. They are not used

:34:47. > :34:52.to going behind and you sometimes see a different Dutch team coming

:34:53. > :34:57.out, they don't know what to do. Susannah Townsend quick to react

:34:58. > :35:02.once the ball went to lose. -- went loose.

:35:03. > :35:07.I think Helen Richardson-Walsh does have some strapping on her hamstring

:35:08. > :35:14.to help without injury. Here goes Sophie Bray. That is good skills.

:35:15. > :35:25.Decided to take it on. Ultimately held up by will mean boss. Verschoor

:35:26. > :35:35.for the Netherlands -- Willemijn Bos. Crista Cullen restarts. Back to

:35:36. > :35:40.Laura Unsworth. Across to Kate Richardson-Walsh. Now Sam Quek is on

:35:41. > :35:43.the left. Her pass is poor. It has been intercepted by the Netherlands.

:35:44. > :35:52.Maddie Hinch might have to make a save. Penalty stroke for the Dutch.

:35:53. > :35:56.Sam Quek unfortunately went to ground. Laura Unsworth made the

:35:57. > :36:03.legwork back, Sam Quek did so well, she made the mistake. You can see

:36:04. > :36:09.Sam Quek going to ground, she didn't take the ball and as a result of

:36:10. > :36:14.that, she takes the player and it is absolutely right by Michelle Joubert

:36:15. > :36:24.to give the penalty stroke, and it is Paumen stepping up against Maddie

:36:25. > :36:28.Hinch. Holland's top scorer with four, the chance to make it five and

:36:29. > :36:36.put the Netherlands 1-0 up in the gold medal match. Paumen versus

:36:37. > :36:44.Hinch. It's been saved! Hinch to the rescue. What a start for the Great

:36:45. > :36:48.Britain goalkeeper. Fantastic save but for a world-class player, it is

:36:49. > :36:53.a poor stroke by Paumen, almost putting it down the middle, hoping

:36:54. > :36:54.that Hinch takes a step to her left. One thing Hinch does is her

:36:55. > :37:05.homework. Owsley down the right to Helen

:37:06. > :37:13.Richardson-Walsh. A lot of strapping on that leg after the injury in the

:37:14. > :37:21.semifinal. De Waard heading forward for the Netherlands. After feet of

:37:22. > :37:27.Helen Richardson-Walsh. It goes to show what pressure does to, well,

:37:28. > :37:31.without doubt, one of the best players in the world. The pressure

:37:32. > :37:36.has got to hand maybe it is a sign that the on top of their game.

:37:37. > :37:42.Georgie Twigg picking it up on the 23. She has got a lot of ground

:37:43. > :37:47.here, into the Dutch half. Now they attack again. Cullen watching it

:37:48. > :37:50.every step of the way inside and read perfectly by Kate

:37:51. > :37:59.Richardson-Walsh, who has released Owsley on the right. She has Alex

:38:00. > :38:04.Townson inside. Can't find her. Lily Owsley doing the right thing, trying

:38:05. > :38:08.to go towards the support, which was Alex Townson. Sometimes when she has

:38:09. > :38:13.ten or 15 yards in front of, just put the ball into space and get the

:38:14. > :38:14.legs ticking over. She is a nightmare to try and catch up to

:38:15. > :38:24.when she is at full speed. Chance for the Netherlands to build

:38:25. > :38:31.another move forward down this right flank. In front of the orange clad

:38:32. > :38:38.supporters behind. Lots of red white and blue, obviously the flag of the

:38:39. > :38:40.Netherlands and the union flags dotted around the stadium. There is

:38:41. > :38:47.the save again. Unsworth thinks about throwing it

:38:48. > :38:53.forward. Weight sensibly and gives Alex Townson the chance to pick up

:38:54. > :38:59.some speed. A little reverse pass to the left. Great Britain have three

:39:00. > :39:07.on the edge of the circle. Townsend tackled.

:39:08. > :39:14.Georgie Twigg missed her tackle. Van As is heading forward. Can they

:39:15. > :39:23.threaded through for another shot on goal? Saved again. Have they given a

:39:24. > :39:27.corner? Penalty corner awarded to the Netherlands. Let's see what

:39:28. > :39:34.happened here. Possibly coming off the legs of Richardson-Walsh. The

:39:35. > :39:40.long corner has been given, I think the two umpires had a conversation.

:39:41. > :39:43.It came off the stick, not the body. Sometimes we talk about the pressure

:39:44. > :39:48.on the players in these matches but you also have to remember, it is the

:39:49. > :39:51.pinnacle of an umpire's career, so it is great to see these two working

:39:52. > :39:58.well together early on in a massive match. From a British point of view,

:39:59. > :40:02.it was fortunate they conferred, cancelled the penalty corner. Great

:40:03. > :40:09.Britain with possession, aerial ball looking for Nicola White. Quick move

:40:10. > :40:16.forward. Owsley trying to chase it down.

:40:17. > :40:23.Sophie Bray. In a bit of a tangle. Taken quickly. Helen

:40:24. > :40:30.Richardson-Walsh waiting in the centre of the circle. After legs and

:40:31. > :40:35.this time it is scored! Great Britain are in front, Lily Owsley

:40:36. > :40:40.strikes! Exactly what we wanted to see, Britain getting the goal on the

:40:41. > :40:46.board first. Paumen this a stroke and four minutes later, fantastic

:40:47. > :40:53.skills by Sophie Bray, taking on three players by herself. Get the

:40:54. > :40:59.shot away. Sombroek with the save but Owsley the first to react with

:41:00. > :41:05.the ball. Sophie Bray has the skills and the ingenuity to unlock the very

:41:06. > :41:13.best defensive combinations. Lily Owsley was on hand to finish the

:41:14. > :41:23.job. Six minutes left in the first quarter of the gold medal match.

:41:24. > :41:30.Sophie Bray busy again, this time in midfield. The Dutch are coming

:41:31. > :41:35.forward with speed. Appeals for a penalty corner. It was just on the

:41:36. > :41:40.edge, I think it hit Sam Quek's foot, but outside of the circle.

:41:41. > :41:45.Sensibly pushed behind and this time, the penalty corner is awarded.

:41:46. > :41:49.It has been awarded because the umpire felt that Hollie Webb

:41:50. > :41:53.deliberately played the ball off the backline. I have got to be honest,

:41:54. > :41:58.at this level, you can't put that down as a poor trap. The movement of

:41:59. > :42:08.the stick goes towards the baseline, so it is the correct decision. The

:42:09. > :42:16.number 13 on the left-hand side, van Maasakker and Paumen on the right.

:42:17. > :42:22.Paumen, who missed the penalty stroke, could be the target.

:42:23. > :42:34.They have reshuffled, the Dutch. It is Paumen's drag flick. Saved by

:42:35. > :42:39.Hinch again, and behind. Big left-hand glove save again by Maddie

:42:40. > :42:43.Hinch. Paumen going across the goal but you can see Maddie Hinch

:42:44. > :42:47.stepping out, she is reliant on Hannah MacLeod taking the stick

:42:48. > :42:52.side, running anything down and getting hit. Maddie Hinch took a

:42:53. > :42:56.huge step to her left side and was able to bat the ball away.

:42:57. > :43:05.Hannah MacLeod goes inside. That is a great pass forward. Looking for

:43:06. > :43:10.McAllen. Hannah MacLeod again pushes it into the circle. The Dutch

:43:11. > :43:16.defence is a bit desperate. One more time on her way through. Hannah

:43:17. > :43:17.MacLeod is a tenacious talent. The Dutch will be aware that she rarely

:43:18. > :43:44.feels any pain. -- Alex Danson. When you're talking

:43:45. > :44:02.about Hannah MacLeod, for me, personally, she is the unsung hero.

:44:03. > :44:03.She is not worried about whether she is on the scoreboard or not. It is

:44:04. > :44:04.not a criticism of any of the is on the scoreboard or not. It is

:44:05. > :44:04.forwards or anyone else, but Hannah MacLeod knows her job and it allows

:44:05. > :44:05.Sophie Bray, Lily Owsley, Alex Townson, to play how they want to

:44:06. > :44:10.play. She puts the body armour on and runs no-one and gets hit. Sophie

:44:11. > :44:19.Bray was loitering. Van As with the pass down the line

:44:20. > :44:34.to Ellen Hoog that was too strong. Sam Quek ready to restart. She has

:44:35. > :44:40.been rock solid throughout this tournament, played some sensational

:44:41. > :44:45.hockey at times. Bit of a misunderstanding between Hollie Webb

:44:46. > :44:50.and Sam Quek. Taken quickly into the circle. Unsworth calm under pressure

:44:51. > :44:57.as ever, releases it to the outer edge of the circle. Trying to get it

:44:58. > :44:58.back into a shooting opportunity. It is brought clear by Susannah

:44:59. > :45:13.Townsend. Danson has Nicola White ahead of who

:45:14. > :45:16.was raising her stick and calling for it. One thing Britain have been

:45:17. > :45:19.exceptional at in the tournament is their team defence and their circle

:45:20. > :45:24.defence in particular. Getting their feet out of the way but managing to

:45:25. > :45:29.pick the ball off the opponents' sticks. That is important when you

:45:30. > :45:31.have cowman and van Maasakker as potential drag flick is from the top

:45:32. > :45:45.of the circle -- Paumen. Great Britain's ball. Umpire wanted

:45:46. > :45:46.it taken from the right place. Cullen sends it back to Laura

:45:47. > :46:02.Unsworth. Nicola White takes it out of the

:46:03. > :46:07.evening sky. The match started in daylight. It gets dark quickly here

:46:08. > :46:14.in mid-winter in Rio. The flood lights are on. There's Hanna

:46:15. > :46:20.Macleod. Van Maasakker has picked up an injury here. Hanna Macleod as she

:46:21. > :46:25.tries to tap the ball down into the turf she catches the knee cap. Quick

:46:26. > :46:26.ice pack and miss the last two minutes, back for the second

:46:27. > :47:08.quarter. Grazed knee and she's off. That's what I mean about team

:47:09. > :47:12.defence. All 11 players back, building a red wall around the

:47:13. > :47:16.circle. When you see the Dutch crashing a ball in from 35 metres

:47:17. > :47:18.out from the goal, you've got to think you're on top of them at this

:47:19. > :47:56.particular moment. Umpire has asked for the clock to be

:47:57. > :48:00.stopped. The decision has been given for dangerous. The question is being

:48:01. > :48:04.asked whether it should be a penalty corner. Though it hit Unsworth

:48:05. > :48:10.unions the knee. That's deemed to be the defender's, I mean this in the

:48:11. > :48:13.nice way, it's good that she's one of the smallest players on the

:48:14. > :48:17.field, but her knee is closest to the field any way. She's had worse

:48:18. > :48:30.in her career and indeed in these Olympic Games.

:48:31. > :48:41.Great Britain attempt to wind down the clock. 15 minutes done in the

:48:42. > :48:49.Gold Medal game. The Netherlands 0, Great Britain 1. A great start for

:48:50. > :48:59.Great Britain. And they had to soak up a lot of pressure. Let's look the

:49:00. > :49:03.the first goal if we can. What magnificent skill from Sophie Bray.

:49:04. > :49:06.She takes the ball to the air. Defenders know you can step in. The

:49:07. > :49:09.ball is three inches across. Then it's in mid-air to make a clean

:49:10. > :49:16.tackle is so difficult. The defenders didn't. They stepped away.

:49:17. > :49:22.Bray bustled through, got the shot on and then Owsley on hand. Both

:49:23. > :49:26.players there fantastic. Lily Owsley looks so calm. Looking at the save

:49:27. > :49:30.Maddie Hinch has produced, she has been one of the MVPs of the

:49:31. > :49:34.tournament for me. What about the first from the penalty stroke? Mel

:49:35. > :49:39.Clewlow said that Maddie does her home work. She will have studied

:49:40. > :49:44.video footage of every stroke that Paumen has taken for years. She will

:49:45. > :49:48.have a black book and she read it right. She anticipated Hinch

:49:49. > :49:52.stepping one side. She didn't. Good save. Good save and from the penalty

:49:53. > :49:56.corner. Paumen didn't get hold of it. It's not the class we've seen

:49:57. > :50:01.from her. It's a good height from Maddie. She read it correctly. Big

:50:02. > :50:06.left hand in the world. It wasn't a world class flick. The pace this

:50:07. > :50:10.game is being played at is quite outstanding. For those of you at

:50:11. > :50:15.home, I hope they appreciate the effort of these athletes. It's

:50:16. > :50:19.turnover turnover because of that pace. It comes straight back with

:50:20. > :50:23.interest. Whether they can sustain this, I have no idea. It will be

:50:24. > :50:26.impressive if they do. One thing we know, is that Great Britain are

:50:27. > :50:30.beautifully conditioned. They are in the peak condition of their careers.

:50:31. > :50:33.They're ready for a pace that they're currently going at the

:50:34. > :50:37.moment. Let's head back up and rejoin Mel and Matt.

:50:38. > :50:45.Thank you, Rishi. The second quarter about to get under way. Great

:50:46. > :50:49.Britain lead the Netherlands by 1-0. No change of ends after the first

:50:50. > :51:20.quarter. That will happen at halftime. On

:51:21. > :51:30.Sticks are locked together there. The Dutch have broken away.

:51:31. > :51:46.It's a goal. It's scored by Kitty Van Male. No referral. It's outside

:51:47. > :51:54.the 25. Hollie Webb needed to do more as the final back defender.

:51:55. > :51:58.Kate Richardson-Walsh is taken out of the equation. Webb does

:51:59. > :52:03.everything she can. The speed at which Van Male is running at

:52:04. > :52:08.unsettles Hinch a bit. She realises she's not going to make a save. Into

:52:09. > :52:11.the roof of the net, 1-1. Gutting from a British perspective because

:52:12. > :52:21.it's a mistake that's led to that goal. Inside the first minute of the

:52:22. > :52:27.second quarter. The Dutch are level. Goal in the first quarter from Lily

:52:28. > :52:41.Owsley. The equaliser from Kitty Van Male.

:52:42. > :52:56.Somebody took a hit. Owsley doubled over. Recovers quickly. Lily Owsley

:52:57. > :52:59.is another one checked over by the physio after earning the second

:53:00. > :53:03.penalty stroke which led to the third British goal in the semifinal.

:53:04. > :53:04.She landed awkwardly on her right shoulder. You'll see the strapping

:53:05. > :53:47.on her shoulder. Solid defending from Webb. There's

:53:48. > :53:55.going to be a card here. It's been shown to Crista Cullen for elbowing.

:53:56. > :54:03.Crista Cullen will get a two-minute suspension. Numerical advantage for

:54:04. > :54:13.the next couple of minutes for the Netherlands.

:54:14. > :54:22.The Dutch are seizing on every missed trap and every pass that

:54:23. > :54:27.comes up short from the Great Britain team. Starting to settle

:54:28. > :54:29.down, the Netherlands, now and playing

:54:30. > :54:34.-- and playing with more fluidity. Paumen thought about going with the

:54:35. > :54:57.aerial ball. Great play from Georgie Twigg.

:54:58. > :55:01.Fantastic play. Crista Cullen sitting out for two minutes with the

:55:02. > :55:06.eight stitches in her head from the semifinal. This is what the Dutch do

:55:07. > :55:10.to you in a game. The Dutch swarm around and try to bully you. They

:55:11. > :55:14.try and intimidate you, I guess, that's why they're one of the best

:55:15. > :55:18.sides in the world and ranked number one. From a British perspective,

:55:19. > :55:20.when they get the opportunities, which is what Lily Owsley did in the

:55:21. > :55:38.first half, you have to take them. The shot is wide from Naomi Van As.

:55:39. > :55:43.Turnover ball again by Britain. The ball falls to Naomi Van As for the

:55:44. > :55:53.second time. Giselle Ansley does well to close it down.

:55:54. > :55:59.Can Great Britain, if they just get a ten-second patch of possession,

:56:00. > :56:15.calm things down. They're under pressure defensively one more time.

:56:16. > :56:22.Hanna Macleod was calling for it. That's good, calm play by Danson

:56:23. > :56:26.coming back to help the team-mates out at the back. And the willness of

:56:27. > :56:44.Nicola White and Hanna Macleod to get ahead of the ball is brilliant.

:56:45. > :57:04.Georgina Twigg and Samantha Quek switch flanks.

:57:05. > :57:09.Constant offensive movement from end to end in this second quarter. The

:57:10. > :57:28.Dutch have really raised the pace of the game.

:57:29. > :57:38.Off a Great Britain foot. It is a penalty corner. The Netherlands

:57:39. > :57:47.giving Great Britain a piece of their own medicine. Free hit taken

:57:48. > :57:50.quickly. Giselle Ansley not able to see the ball coming through. But

:57:51. > :57:57.these moments you can't afford to give to the Dutch. Maartje Paumen

:57:58. > :58:06.doesn't miss very often. Maddie Hinch getting some water down

:58:07. > :58:10.her before she has to keep her eyes on either Paumen or, who is

:58:11. > :58:19.alongside her? Number 13, Van Maasakker.

:58:20. > :58:33.Hirge hinge gets down sharply. Double save from Maddie Hinch.

:58:34. > :58:43.Hinge has put on a goal -- Hinch has put on a goal keeping master class

:58:44. > :58:52.so far in this Gold Medal match. Still no let up in the pressure. The

:58:53. > :58:57.Dutch keep coming forward. This is the corner from Maartje Paumen.

:58:58. > :59:00.Tries to whip the ball using all her body. She shapes as if she's going

:59:01. > :59:10.to put it one side. Then whip it's the other side. Fantastic double

:59:11. > :59:48.save from Hinch. Kate Richardson-Walsh tried to get

:59:49. > :00:12.underneath it. Good interplay. Ellen Hoog find it on the right. --

:00:13. > :00:32.finds it. Incredible tension around the arena

:00:33. > :00:38.tonight. 1-1 in the Olympic gold medal match. The Dutch the defending

:00:39. > :00:44.champions, they have won it in London four years ago, they won the

:00:45. > :00:48.title in Beijing in 2008 as well. Looking for the hat-trick. Great

:00:49. > :01:04.Britain, bronze-medallists last time out. Van As, quick turn and take. To

:01:05. > :01:12.her right van den Heuvel. Runs into trouble. Still the pressure mounts.

:01:13. > :01:16.Another cross coming in. It was too far behind the Dutch attacker. The

:01:17. > :01:18.Dutch with all of the possession at the moment and they are inside the

:01:19. > :01:36.circle with van As. I didn't see any foot. Just

:01:37. > :01:41.listening out for what it was for. We are asking for a penalty corner,

:01:42. > :01:50.OK? I thought they were checking whether the ball had gone over the

:01:51. > :01:57.line from van As's shot. He is van As's shot, it was clear of the line.

:01:58. > :02:05.Was there a foot. It looks like Sam Quek's stick from that angle. The

:02:06. > :02:11.video umpire will have several angles to look at. That one was

:02:12. > :02:15.inconclusive. I don't think she has hit better one on the back and that

:02:16. > :02:27.hasn't gone in. On the replays we have seen, it looks like Sam Quek's

:02:28. > :02:30.stick, rather than her knee. Restart with a penalty corner and the

:02:31. > :02:34.Netherlands keep their referral. Penalty corner for the Dutch, the

:02:35. > :02:41.decision has been made, no further argument or discussion required. It

:02:42. > :02:43.was interesting, some of the British defenders were behind the goal

:02:44. > :02:54.putting on defensive equipment, which is sometimes a sign. Third

:02:55. > :03:03.penalty corner for the Netherlands. Van Maasakker is there. Potential

:03:04. > :03:13.change for the drag flicker. Paumen has taken the previous two. The

:03:14. > :03:16.third one... Well defended. Well done, Lily Owsley. Interesting

:03:17. > :03:20.decision from the Dutch to go with the slap of the top because it takes

:03:21. > :03:25.longer to get the ball into the circle. Clearly looking for tips and

:03:26. > :03:33.touches because they haven't been able to beat Maddie Hinch with a

:03:34. > :03:42.direct flick off the top. Well, this long period of sustained Dutch

:03:43. > :03:47.pressure continues. It seems to have taken up most of the second quarter

:03:48. > :03:52.so far and there is no end in sight. More Dutch players coming forward.

:03:53. > :03:59.Maddie Hinch diving desperately. Another penalty corner advantage. It

:04:00. > :04:06.is a difficult ball -- dangerous ball of Kate Richardson's stick.

:04:07. > :04:09.There is no way it is an advantage. You can see Michelle Joubert giving

:04:10. > :04:17.the penalty corner sign. Fourth one to the Dutch so far. Van Male's goal

:04:18. > :04:23.in the first minute of the second quarter has ignited this Dutch run

:04:24. > :04:35.of pressure. Paumen is back on the edge, van As will inject. Paumen the

:04:36. > :04:37.likely target. It is a goal for the Netherlands! 2-1 in front in the

:04:38. > :04:48.gold-medal game. Paumen, one of the best at drag

:04:49. > :04:55.flicking in the world, has been unable to boot magic Hinch so

:04:56. > :05:01.decides to take the ball and hit it herself -- beat Maddie Hinch.

:05:02. > :05:06.Richardson-Walsh on the goal-line is unable to it. I don't know if Maddie

:05:07. > :05:12.Hinch will be disappointed with this or not. To be fair to Paumen, she

:05:13. > :05:19.has got the ball a few inches off the turf and it has bounced in and

:05:20. > :05:22.around Maddie Hinch. It is probably about the 198 goal she has called

:05:23. > :05:27.for her country and she celebrates it like it is her first. It is

:05:28. > :05:32.heartbreaking to see it going but you have do admire her passion. This

:05:33. > :05:36.group of players, playing as England at the time in the European finals

:05:37. > :05:40.last year, where 2-0 down to the Netherlands before fighting back and

:05:41. > :05:44.winning on a penalty shoot out, so they won't lose faith at all. 2-1

:05:45. > :05:50.with four and a half minutes left until half-time. Great Britain on a

:05:51. > :05:56.rare attack. The flick inside from Helen Richardson-Walsh. It has

:05:57. > :06:02.fallen kindly for Owsley. Chance for:. Crista Cullen has scored!

:06:03. > :06:10.Crista Cullen brings Great Britain level. I said you don't get many

:06:11. > :06:13.chances against the Dutch and when you do, you have to take them.

:06:14. > :06:21.Crista Cullen finds herself in acres of space in the Dutch circle. I am

:06:22. > :06:26.not sure what Sombroek expected to seek. It is a shocker for Sombroek

:06:27. > :06:31.but any British fans are not going to care. Crista Cullen with the

:06:32. > :06:34.slap. Sombroek's foot, whether it gets stuck in the turf, is

:06:35. > :06:41.irrelevant and within a minute of Paumen giving Holland the lead,

:06:42. > :06:47.Crista Cullen equalisers. Wearing a bandage on the scar of the head

:06:48. > :06:52.injury she picked up, eight stitches in the semifinal. What time strike

:06:53. > :06:56.back, with the Dutch having just gone ahead. Let's see if that can

:06:57. > :07:05.just give Great Britain an extra level of momentum. Four minutes left

:07:06. > :07:10.in the half. 2-2. Townsend on the break down the right. Townsend

:07:11. > :07:18.continues to surge forward until she is eventually held up. Bouncing

:07:19. > :07:23.ball, watched and controlled by Kate Richardson-Walsh. She looks to set

:07:24. > :07:32.up Sophie Bray. Bit of a collision between Sophie Bray and one of the

:07:33. > :07:35.Dutch midfielder is. -- midfielders. When you are comparing goalkeeping

:07:36. > :07:39.performances as well, Maddie Hinch has made a couple of quality saves,

:07:40. > :07:44.which gives you confidence as a team. Sombroek has faced two shots

:07:45. > :07:48.and conceded two shots. Whether she could have done anything on the

:07:49. > :07:51.first is irrelevant but the second one, she definitely could have done

:07:52. > :07:58.and that is going to upset you as a defensive unit. Lily Owsley inside,

:07:59. > :08:03.into space. Settling things down for Great Britain. Long thumping pass

:08:04. > :08:21.forward from Giselle Ansley. Taken quickly. Looking for Sophie

:08:22. > :08:30.Bray. Wonderful ball juggling skills. This is where she is at her

:08:31. > :08:34.best. It is a fantastic cake by Verschoor to take it off the end of

:08:35. > :08:38.Sophie Bray's stick -- fantastic take. It is so difficult when they

:08:39. > :08:45.are bouncing it in the air like Sophie Bray does.

:08:46. > :08:54.Crista Cullen, who has just scored Great Britain's second, back in her

:08:55. > :08:59.more regular defensive position. Great Britain yet to have a penalty

:09:00. > :09:06.corner. Cullen could be involved if and when they do. Sophie Bray leaves

:09:07. > :09:22.it. Sent high, searching for Hannah MacLeod.

:09:23. > :09:36.Paumen forward to van Male. Van Male holds it up, fires it off Alex

:09:37. > :09:39.Danson's leg. It has been such an absorbing half of hockey, it is hard

:09:40. > :09:45.to believe there is only a minute and a half left of the first half.

:09:46. > :09:51.To see four goals in an Olympic final already is quite impressive.

:09:52. > :09:55.Could be more to come, still plenty of time left on the clock. Great

:09:56. > :10:01.Britain back to defending, where they have spent most of this

:10:02. > :10:06.quarter. The Dutch trying to unlock this defence. It is often a foot.

:10:07. > :10:08.Control by Laura Unsworth but it will be van As with the restart. Out

:10:09. > :10:30.to the right. Another aerial ball in search of

:10:31. > :10:41.Alex Danson, but it doesn't find her. Last 30 seconds of the first

:10:42. > :10:48.half. Level pegging here, 2-2. Last meaningful attack opportunity is

:10:49. > :10:52.missed and the Dutch will just keep possession now, pass it between

:10:53. > :11:00.themselves and count down to half-time. Helped by some of the

:11:01. > :11:03.supporters here at the Diadoro Olympic Hockey Centre. So the

:11:04. > :11:11.players head off to replenish their energy levels. Half-time here in the

:11:12. > :11:16.gold-medal match. The Netherlands two, Great Britain two. Rishi

:11:17. > :11:21.Persad. That was just about the most wonderful 15 minutes of hockey you

:11:22. > :11:25.could imagine. The Dutch equaliser, Simon, was just stunning

:11:26. > :11:33.counterattacking. Yes, the Dutch are swarming the ball carrier so when

:11:34. > :11:37.Great Britain come forwards, they swarm around them and then attack as

:11:38. > :11:41.a unit. It is not one-on-one, it is three on one at times and it was an

:11:42. > :11:47.exceptional finish once van Male went around Maddie Hinch. They look

:11:48. > :11:50.so incisive when attacking and deserved equaliser. Then they

:11:51. > :11:54.carried on attacking, Great Britain camped in their own final third of

:11:55. > :11:59.the pitch and they get the goal but puts them to one up. In big Games,

:12:00. > :12:02.Britain have ridden the look little bit, defended deep and it is a

:12:03. > :12:07.tactic they are comfortable with but it did look like they were inviting

:12:08. > :12:11.too much pressure. The corner that came to put them 2-1 up was

:12:12. > :12:18.fantastically improvised, you don't see many of them these days, but a

:12:19. > :12:22.good finish. And it was fair to say that it looks like they could get

:12:23. > :12:26.more. They were dominant, the Dutch ran through channels with such pays,

:12:27. > :12:31.finding the extra player deep in the circle on the baseline. -- such

:12:32. > :12:36.pays. But the good thing about the British team, whenever they get a

:12:37. > :12:40.chance, they take it. Yes, and never holding anything back. They know

:12:41. > :12:46.they have confidence and individual abilities so they go. Not the

:12:47. > :12:51.cleanest donation from a goalkeeping point of view, not one the Dutch

:12:52. > :12:55.goalkeeper will be proud of. No, not a moment she will put in her

:12:56. > :12:59.personal highlights diary. Crista Cullen bawled her beautifully with a

:13:00. > :13:04.slower ball, basically, through the legs. Maddie Hinch in contrast has

:13:05. > :13:09.had a wonderful first. 2-2, finely poised here.

:13:10. > :13:13.CLARE BALDING: think I everyone is pretty tense. Great for Crista

:13:14. > :13:16.Cullen, who came out of retirement to score the equaliser. Let's bring

:13:17. > :13:20.you up-to-date with what has been happening in the taekwondo because

:13:21. > :13:23.the semifinal happened a little while ago and it featured Great

:13:24. > :13:33.Britain's Lutalo Mohammad against European champion Beigi Harchegani

:13:34. > :13:36.of Azerbaijan, who is six foot six. We will join it at the start of the

:13:37. > :13:53.second round, there is no score yet. The first point on the board for

:13:54. > :14:00.Cullen McCullers -- 43. How often have we seen that, straightforward

:14:01. > :14:05.and right on target. Doing very well to stay in the ring, Lutalo

:14:06. > :14:20.Mohammad, but staying in the Carioca arena. Can he stay on song? One

:14:21. > :14:30.point to the good. Two kyong gos hanging there. Reducing the target,

:14:31. > :14:35.Herchegen with a lot to look at. The tempo suiting the British fighter

:14:36. > :14:39.here. The man from Walthamstow is doing really well to keep this

:14:40. > :14:44.tempo. Coming forward a bit more now. The referee having a close look

:14:45. > :14:50.and it will be a kyong go for holding the leg, Muhammad just

:14:51. > :14:58.questioning in that moment. Gets his focus back.

:14:59. > :15:04.That's it, isn't it, he's just waiting, waiting that little bit too

:15:05. > :15:11.long. The referee said he wants more action. Scoring with a wonderful

:15:12. > :15:18.headshot. His patience pays off. Position, firing into the face.

:15:19. > :15:25.Milad Beigi Harchegani firing himself. 3-point lead, perfect

:15:26. > :15:31.timing. Perfect, just hanging off of their waiting for the Azeri to come

:15:32. > :15:36.in. Almost scoring with another drop kick in response to the back kick.

:15:37. > :15:43.It is Harchegani that flicks one around the back. Are we going to see

:15:44. > :15:50.a kyon go? Looked to be some holding there. That headshot has been

:15:51. > :15:56.invalidated, if you hold and kick to the face, it doesn't count, no video

:15:57. > :16:01.replay needed, kyong-go given, it has given Lutalo Muhammad a very

:16:02. > :16:05.handy four point lead. It was a bit fortunate I have to say, but rules

:16:06. > :16:11.are rules, that's it. You are not allowed to hold. It could have been

:16:12. > :16:12.all evens but it's not, it's a healthy lead going into this final

:16:13. > :16:22.round. Olympic tae kwon do, the art of

:16:23. > :16:29.kicking and punching. There was the big head kick. Didn't he know it,

:16:30. > :16:39.Lutalo Muhammad. Very concentrated, Harchegani. Up against it. Looks

:16:40. > :16:45.like Steve Jennings the British coach like that one. I think he did.

:16:46. > :16:52.Now from a tactical point of view, Harchegani is going to have to come

:16:53. > :16:57.out all guns blazing. Muhammad has to really concentrate. This, the

:16:58. > :17:02.semifinal in the men's under 80 kilograms grouping. Lutalo Muhammad

:17:03. > :17:08.of Great Britain against Milad Beigi Harchegani of Azerbaijan. The Azeri

:17:09. > :17:13.that all of the two. A big gap in favour of the Brit, four points in

:17:14. > :17:19.front. That flexibility. He tries again. A flick to the head. Tense

:17:20. > :17:26.times year, Olympic final at stake. Do you attack, do you defend? He's

:17:27. > :17:30.defending. He takes a kyong-go. He takes a kyong-go because he closed

:17:31. > :17:36.that down, he didn't want to be there for the reverse kick. 5-2 now.

:17:37. > :17:41.Little reverse kick from Harchegani, a space opened. He capitalised.

:17:42. > :17:51.Tries with a little hook kick to the body there.

:17:52. > :17:58.We can just about hear Steve Jennings the British team coach

:17:59. > :18:03.advising him to go higher with that push kick to close the gap.

:18:04. > :18:08.Harchegani... Response from Muhammad, this one going back and

:18:09. > :18:13.forward. It's a kyong-go for stepping out. 5-3. Lutalo Muhammad

:18:14. > :18:18.having a conversation with Steve Jennings, he felt there was a head

:18:19. > :18:24.kick. Yeah, really going for the head, isn't he? Harchegani going for

:18:25. > :18:29.the big points. As we mentioned, the importance of staying concentrated,

:18:30. > :18:34.not just defending, Harchegani was two down but there is a kyong-go

:18:35. > :18:39.against Muhammad. Into the final minute here. He keeps trying to

:18:40. > :18:45.close the gap, Muhammad, he has to be careful, because we've seen it so

:18:46. > :18:49.often in this last minute. Harchegani's going to come forward

:18:50. > :18:55.and he's looking for the big points. Big points but not much time left.

:18:56. > :18:58.In which to do it. Lutalo Muhammad using the push kick, trying to

:18:59. > :19:03.maintain this, those with a headshot of his own. This tousled affair will

:19:04. > :19:08.suit the British fighter at the moment, breathing hard, huge

:19:09. > :19:18.pressure. Uncharted territory. Olympic bronze. In London. Can he go

:19:19. > :19:22.one further here? Yes, well again, closing it up. 5- for now, he's

:19:23. > :19:31.closed the gap, one more point would even it all up. The defensive

:19:32. > :19:35.tactics of Lutalo Muhammad, will they pay off? Beigi Harchegani of

:19:36. > :19:39.Azerbaijan is one points down. The Olympic Games final awaits. Tries

:19:40. > :19:43.with the head cake. Lutalo Muhammad manages to seal the deal, perfect

:19:44. > :19:48.shot from him, response from Harchegani, it's all kicking off

:19:49. > :19:52.here. Ten seconds to go in the third round, 11-7. Lutalo Muhammad of

:19:53. > :19:57.Great Britain on the cusp of an Olympic Games final. Shifts around.

:19:58. > :20:03.The clock is ticking down. Two in seconds left. The kyong-go, he'll

:20:04. > :20:05.take it all day. Beigi Harchegani on the move. Lutalo Muhammad in the

:20:06. > :20:14.final! Tremendous scenes here. Picture

:20:15. > :20:24.perfect performance. Lutalo Muhammad of Great Britain tactically perfect,

:20:25. > :20:31.timing spot on. Patience... It's most certainly a virtue. The man

:20:32. > :20:35.from Walthamstow shouting "Olympic final". That is where he's going.

:20:36. > :20:41.That gold-medal match will take place at 2:15am your time, the other

:20:42. > :20:44.major headline today is Nick Skelton, becoming Britain's

:20:45. > :20:50.first-ever individual show-jumping champion, he took the title going

:20:51. > :20:54.first in the jump off on big star. He our gold medallist, could we have

:20:55. > :20:59.another at the hockey? It's 2-2, let's go back to the Deodoro. Rishi

:21:00. > :21:07.Persad? They've been too expensive, they

:21:08. > :21:11.need to be composed, get the ball out wide, down the flanks, then to

:21:12. > :21:13.the front line under control. The biggest 30 minutes of their lives

:21:14. > :21:20.ahead of them, let's rejoin Matt and Mel. COMMENTATOR: Second half just

:21:21. > :21:26.underway, Great Britain now attacking, attacking the gold to the

:21:27. > :21:32.left. 2-2 in the gold-medal game. Incredible tension throughout that

:21:33. > :21:35.second court, particularly, Mel Clewlow, when the Dutch were all

:21:36. > :21:40.over the British team. Absolutely, it was a dominant second quarter by

:21:41. > :21:43.the Dutch, but it still remains 2-2 at half-time and from the British

:21:44. > :21:51.perspective you have to take the positives from it and realise

:21:52. > :21:54.anything that goes to Joyce Sombroek's goal could have an

:21:55. > :21:57.outcome. I'd like to see them putting the back line under pressure

:21:58. > :22:01.and winning the ball high up the field so they haven't got so far to

:22:02. > :22:12.run to try and get the ball into the Dutch circle.

:22:13. > :22:17.Cautious start from the Dutch on this left side. Kate

:22:18. > :22:26.Richardson-Walsh gets an early touch, then tidy things up. Slides

:22:27. > :22:36.it inside. Naomi van As will restart. A couple of Dutch players

:22:37. > :22:44.inside the circle. Van As tries to go past Nicola White.

:22:45. > :22:55.Attacking down the left, this side, bouncing behind, harmlessly enough.

:22:56. > :22:59.Hard to know which coach would be the happiest. I think there is more

:23:00. > :23:05.to come from this British team, definitely. From the Dutch is

:23:06. > :23:10.effective, they will be disappointed they haven't taken more chances and

:23:11. > :23:13.put more gold on the scoreboard. Four penalty chances in the first

:23:14. > :23:19.half, Great Britain yet you have one. Alex Dunton, her past to Hannah

:23:20. > :23:27.Macleod was a good one. McLeod bullied off the ball. On the deck.

:23:28. > :23:38.Right into the centre. White in good shape. That may come. Sam Quek on

:23:39. > :23:42.the left. Laura Unsworth forward. Normally at the other end of the

:23:43. > :23:49.field. In a forward attacking position. She's found Alex Danson.

:23:50. > :23:53.Danson with the free hit. The pass comes up short. Aimed for Sam Quek.

:23:54. > :24:02.The Dutch will try and charge down the right side with de Waard, who

:24:03. > :24:10.leads it for Naomi van As. Van As omnipresent, on the ball whenever

:24:11. > :24:14.there is a Dutch player present, it is Naomi van As, spends very little

:24:15. > :24:17.time on the bench. I'm led to believe it's her last international

:24:18. > :24:21.game for the Dutch, she will want to go out with a third Olympic gold

:24:22. > :24:26.medal. Sophie Bray tried to intercept. But they reconstruct down

:24:27. > :24:32.the left. They are into the Great Britain circle. Hoping to get a red

:24:33. > :24:50.foot on the ball. Nothing yet. It's behind.

:24:51. > :24:57.Van Geffen down the line. Great Britain appealed the ball had been

:24:58. > :25:03.pushed out. The umpire agreed, I think. One thing this British team

:25:04. > :25:06.will know is you don't beat the Dutch in the first quarter of any

:25:07. > :25:09.match, one thing the Dutch will know is this is probably the fittest

:25:10. > :25:15.women's hockey team there is alongside the USA. This team can go

:25:16. > :25:18.for 60 minutes, if there was extra time, which we know there isn't,

:25:19. > :25:21.they could do that as well, you have to grind it out against the Dutch.

:25:22. > :25:27.As I've said many times, take your opportunities when you can. England,

:25:28. > :25:32.we know, in the Europeans, where 2-0 with ten minutes to go and managed

:25:33. > :25:35.to come back to 2-2. This Great Britain side almost exactly the same

:25:36. > :25:41.as the England side that won the European Championships last year. No

:25:42. > :25:49.extra time. We go to the end of the 60 minutes. There will be a penalty

:25:50. > :25:53.shoot out. The Dutch won there against Germany in their semi.

:25:54. > :25:57.Germany beat New Zealand for the bronze medal early today. The

:25:58. > :26:04.Netherlands moving forward, Naomi van As holds it up. Shadow all the

:26:05. > :26:10.way to the corner by Sam Quek. Gets a stick in the way. Alex Danson back

:26:11. > :26:16.in her own 23, can she wiggle out of a tight spot? She's done

:26:17. > :26:23.beautifully. Danson loses out to van As, who is seeking revenge.

:26:24. > :26:37.Van Geffen. Inside to Bos. To the left they find Verschoor on the

:26:38. > :26:42.baseline. Back to van Maasakker, send it in, and a penalty corner has

:26:43. > :26:50.been given. Great Britain get a foot on the ball. The Dutch have their if

:26:51. > :26:53.penalty corner of the game. Crash ball in from van Maasakker, Susannah

:26:54. > :26:57.Townsend on the right line at Miss tracks the ball onto her own foot.

:26:58. > :27:01.She walked back to the halfway line from you could see how disappointed

:27:02. > :27:09.she was with that, personally. Fifth penalty corner of the game for the

:27:10. > :27:18.Dutch. Van Maasakker is forward. Kitty van Male is in position as

:27:19. > :27:25.well. The number 24, de Goede, with the black headband. The drag flick,

:27:26. > :27:32.saved by Maddie Hinch. Can they clear this? Cuts out the angle

:27:33. > :27:34.effectively. Still not out of the circle. Now it's clear and the

:27:35. > :27:52.protective gear comes off. Down the centre. Willemijn Bos. The

:27:53. > :28:00.circle. Sticks there. Another one given. Penalty corner number six,

:28:01. > :28:12.they keep on coming. It's just wave after wave of pressure. It's Welten

:28:13. > :28:22.here, as the ball breaks it comes off stick.

:28:23. > :28:37.Van Maasakker number 13, de Goede number 24. Target players here. As

:28:38. > :28:42.the injection comes in. This time... It's beautifully saved by Maddie

:28:43. > :28:45.Hinch. Richardson-Walsh involved as well, still rattling around in the

:28:46. > :28:51.circle. And another penalty corner has been given. I've got a feeling

:28:52. > :28:57.it's a combination of Helen Richardson-Walsh and Maddie Hinch.

:28:58. > :29:03.The shot from de Goede hits Kate Richardson-Walsh on the foot for the

:29:04. > :29:08.seven penalty corner. Great Britain have spent so much time wearing this

:29:09. > :29:13.protective headgear during this match, face masks on. Once again

:29:14. > :29:17.they will attempt to run it down. One of the pieces of women has gone

:29:18. > :29:22.behind the hoarding. It's exactly the correct decision to stop play,

:29:23. > :29:28.because it is player safety that is paramount. The 40 second rule

:29:29. > :29:36.applies, you have 40 seconds to get ready with your protective gear once

:29:37. > :29:40.the penalty corner has been awarded. Van Maasakker and de Goede change

:29:41. > :29:43.positions on the top of the circle. Penalty number seven for the

:29:44. > :29:48.Netherlands and this time they strike. Kitty van Male gets the

:29:49. > :29:57.goal. Her second. And the Dutch lead by 3-2 with eight and a half minutes

:29:58. > :30:00.left in the third period. You had a feeling the Dutch were going to have

:30:01. > :30:04.to do some kind of manoeuvre because it wasn't working off the top. Van

:30:05. > :30:09.Maasakker shapes to deliver a flick straight from the top. She rolls the

:30:10. > :30:14.ball, it's the pace at which he delivers it to Kitty van Male. Who

:30:15. > :30:16.doesn't really have to move. She swings her stick at the ball for a

:30:17. > :30:26.third Dutch goal. The rest of the team and those on

:30:27. > :30:31.the bench off the field of play celebrating. The Netherlands three,

:30:32. > :30:38.Great Britain two. The BBC news will follow the

:30:39. > :31:00.conclusion of this gold-medal match. Helen Richardson-Walsh starting to

:31:01. > :31:04.get busy in the centre. Need a little bit of magic, something

:31:05. > :31:10.creative from Helen Richardson-Walsh to reignite the British gold-medal

:31:11. > :31:13.challenge. They are really struggling to at the moment to keep

:31:14. > :31:20.possession. Helen Richardson-Walsh was the furthest player forward and

:31:21. > :31:32.had five Dutch players around her. Free hit outside the circle.

:31:33. > :31:44.It is off a foot. The Dutch busy here. Showing great patience as they

:31:45. > :31:49.try to get in there and that is a great cross. Thankfully from a

:31:50. > :31:56.British point of view, van As's cross was just too shallow. The

:31:57. > :31:59.Dutch just playing some simple, fantastic hockey, which is short,

:32:00. > :32:05.sharp movements with the players and it is the delivery of the ball from

:32:06. > :32:12.each other, it goes into space. It is not very often it goes stick to

:32:13. > :32:15.stick. The Dutch supporters know in good voice as wave after wave of

:32:16. > :32:27.Dutch attack heads to the Great Britain circle.

:32:28. > :32:38.Verschoor has done well, just drags it back. Hannah MacLeod looking for

:32:39. > :32:41.Sophie Bray. Bray on the break links up with Lily Owsley and Britain are

:32:42. > :32:45.rubbed to halfway under the grand scheme of things in the last 20

:32:46. > :32:50.minutes of this match, that is a good start. They have been doing

:32:51. > :32:55.nothing but defending. We haven't really seen the ball in the Dutch

:32:56. > :32:58.half in this quarter so far. It is typical of the Dutch to bring their

:32:59. > :33:05.best game to an Olympic final, which is, I guess, what you would expect.

:33:06. > :33:10.McAllen, surrounded by three, does well to find Crista Cullen. As soon

:33:11. > :33:17.as there is a British player, Giselle Ansley here, there is a grey

:33:18. > :33:22.shirt lurking. Giselle Ansley will try and find some forward momentum

:33:23. > :33:26.here, but it has to go backwards, via Laura Unsworth, before Georgie

:33:27. > :33:32.Twigg sets things rolling. Little flick from Shona McCallin. Sophie

:33:33. > :33:41.Bray was hoping to pick it up but the Dutch got their first again. --

:33:42. > :33:46.got there. Van As showing wonderful skills. Her passing has been

:33:47. > :33:50.pinpoint precise at times. Great Britain need to just keep moving,

:33:51. > :33:59.and they need to know what they are doing with the next pass. Verschoor

:34:00. > :34:05.has gone around two. Laura Unsworth pushes it behind. Maddie Hinch

:34:06. > :34:07.getting involved. The ball is still lose. Now it is behind and out of

:34:08. > :34:27.play. This is what you do all your fitness

:34:28. > :34:31.training for, for moments like this. It is tough. There is a lot of

:34:32. > :34:35.legwork being put in by the British team. I still think they have got

:34:36. > :34:39.goals in them if they can get the ball up into the Dutch half and it

:34:40. > :34:44.is a big ask, there is no doubt about that, the way the Dutch are

:34:45. > :34:53.playing. It was a superb tackle on van As by Nicola White. Here they

:34:54. > :34:56.come again from the back. Great Britain trying to press forward

:34:57. > :35:05.towards the halfway line. Sophie Bray watching. Hannah MacLeod, had

:35:06. > :35:11.stretched speak. White on the chase one more time -- outstretched stick.

:35:12. > :35:14.Penalty corner has been awarded. I think that has been given because

:35:15. > :35:18.Nicola White played the player, so van As knocks the ball into space

:35:19. > :35:26.and you can see that Nicola White just blocks Naomi van As, she is not

:35:27. > :35:32.playing at the ball. Van As asking the question, "What was that for?"

:35:33. > :35:37.Or danger, with four minutes left in the third period and the score 3-2.

:35:38. > :35:52.Maddie Hinch is going to have to be alert and be agile, hopefully get in

:35:53. > :36:01.on the act one more time. Pato -- Paumen lined up. It is behind.

:36:02. > :36:02.Paumen with the drag flicker. Definitely looking for a touch by

:36:03. > :36:15.the Dutch forward sliding in. Well, the players in red delighted

:36:16. > :36:17.to hear the whistle and see the signal that they were back in

:36:18. > :36:27.possession. The penalty corpsman again. The delivery was not of this

:36:28. > :36:34.page would expect. Crista Cullen ran out and managed to get the edge. The

:36:35. > :36:38.Dutch have stolen it at the Susannah Townsend's trip into the Dutch half.

:36:39. > :36:47.They are back on their way toward Maddie Hinch's goal. Giselle Ansley

:36:48. > :36:55.needed to accelerate quickly. Hinch under pressure. Townsend back to

:36:56. > :37:03.tidy up. Relief all round from the British supporters.

:37:04. > :37:22.Crista Cullen to Georgie Twigg. Giselle Ansley. Helen

:37:23. > :37:26.Richardson-Walsh. Can't get through. I think half their problem is the

:37:27. > :37:30.way the Dutch are defending, they are defending the middle of the

:37:31. > :37:33.field and as a result of that, they are forcing Great Britain into the

:37:34. > :37:38.outside channels and the sideline almost acts as another defender.

:37:39. > :37:42.Helen Richardson-Walsh picks up the ball and has the sideline as one

:37:43. > :37:45.defender and to Dutch players around her and it is so difficult to get

:37:46. > :37:51.the ball out when you are playing against the best team in the world.

:37:52. > :38:00.Laura Unsworth back in her defensive role. Can't keep it in. Ellen Hoog

:38:01. > :38:06.again. Shadowed by Nicola White. Swing and a miss from Ellen Hoog.

:38:07. > :38:08.Can Owsley burst into space question mark she was looking for it but she

:38:09. > :38:20.has given the ball away. They are menacing forward again. Van

:38:21. > :38:28.As on the left this time. Pushed behind by Crista Cullen. Van As

:38:29. > :38:33.wants to be at the heart of everything the Dutch are doing at

:38:34. > :38:40.the moment. Into the circle. Maddie Hinch out quickly. Another

:38:41. > :38:46.opportunity denied. The ball from one end of the field to the other.

:38:47. > :38:52.British ball, though, long corner. Taken quickly. Alex Danson is in the

:38:53. > :38:56.circle. It is more like a night of the judo as they go head over heels

:38:57. > :39:04.on top of each other and Helen Richardson-Walsh was backing up at

:39:05. > :39:10.speed. Players on the floor. A rare opportunity in this quarter came

:39:11. > :39:16.Great Britain's way, a rare opportunity to press forward. And we

:39:17. > :39:23.are into the final 30 seconds of the quarter.

:39:24. > :39:34.The Dutch happy to just keep possession. Still time for another

:39:35. > :39:44.attack on either goal. Last ten seconds. No one in a hurry. Looks as

:39:45. > :39:49.if the scoreline will remain at 3-2, as we await the signal for the end

:39:50. > :39:53.of the third quarter. There it is. Great Britain are behind in the

:39:54. > :40:00.gold-medal game, 15 minutes of hockey left in this file. 3-2 to the

:40:01. > :40:03.Netherlands. Rishi Persad. Quite simply, the Dutch have been

:40:04. > :40:08.brilliant, we can't take that away from them, Simon and it was almost

:40:09. > :40:12.inevitable that they were going to get chances again and when they get

:40:13. > :40:16.them, they are taking them. They are taking them but Maddie Hinch is

:40:17. > :40:19.putting up a valiant rearguard action, certainly putting are

:40:20. > :40:23.claiming for Best goalkeeper of the tournament but eventually, the

:40:24. > :40:28.Netherlands did come good. They were getting nothing out of going direct.

:40:29. > :40:31.In the end, it was a relatively straightforward Tappin. Maddie Hinch

:40:32. > :40:37.unable to get her hips than quick enough. It must be frustrating for

:40:38. > :40:41.Maddie Hinch, because she is having a great game. The pressure is

:40:42. > :40:46.immense, is there any way out, and outfits to have the pressure

:40:47. > :40:51.relieved? There isn't an obvious one right now, but the only thing in

:40:52. > :40:54.their favour is the English team in the European Championships beat this

:40:55. > :40:58.Netherlands team having been 2-0 down and had to come back with goals

:40:59. > :41:01.in the last eight minutes. They know they can do it. There is not an

:41:02. > :41:06.obvious way but they will be confident they can get something.

:41:07. > :41:08.How are the Dutch team maintaining the pace question mark we spoke

:41:09. > :41:12.about fitness levels and the British team being in good condition but the

:41:13. > :41:17.Dutch have been running so hard for so long. Can they keep it up? The

:41:18. > :41:21.adrenaline will help them but GB have to be careful of putting too

:41:22. > :41:25.many players on the ball carrier. They don't have Susannah Townsend on

:41:26. > :41:29.the ball, which is what they want to see, rampaging through midfield.

:41:30. > :41:36.Sometimes, it is her making her tackle in the 23. If you could say

:41:37. > :41:39.something to them, what would it be? Believe and defend high with someone

:41:40. > :41:45.up front. I think they have got to go high risk. High risk and believe.

:41:46. > :41:48.The last 15 minutes coming up of the hockey tournament here at Diadoro.

:41:49. > :41:55.Great Britain need something special. Back to Mel and Matt. Let's

:41:56. > :41:59.see if they play a high-risk strategy in this final quarter. 15

:42:00. > :42:05.minutes of hockey left. 3-2 in the gold-medal match. Dominant third

:42:06. > :42:10.quarter from the Dutch but the one thing is it is still only 3-2 on the

:42:11. > :42:14.scoreboard. Simon Grayson has just said this group of players honestly

:42:15. > :42:17.do believe and they never ever give up and they always will leave

:42:18. > :42:19.everything they have got on the pitch and you have to do, it is an

:42:20. > :42:30.Olympic final. Van den Heuvel down the left.

:42:31. > :42:36.Susannah Townsend back defending. Georgie Twigg needed to get a touch

:42:37. > :42:41.on that and she did, the faintest Nick just prevented another

:42:42. > :42:44.attacking move. I just think this British team now need to play

:42:45. > :42:50.without fear. You are 3-2 down in Olympic final, go for it. Cullen has

:42:51. > :42:53.lost possession. The Dutch are marauding forward. They have lost

:42:54. > :43:07.possession. Blowed up for a stick check. Welten.

:43:08. > :43:10.It is so hard to do that, as players, what do you do, you move

:43:11. > :43:14.the ball with a stick and then the stick tackle comes in but the block

:43:15. > :43:19.is given when the player on the ball hasn't got stick and ball in

:43:20. > :43:22.contact. Georgie Twigg trying to get herself out of that trap, she was

:43:23. > :43:30.surrounded on all sides by Dutch players. Aerial ball.

:43:31. > :43:48.Nothing achieved from that from Vanhoof all. -- Vanhoof

:43:49. > :43:51.Crista Cullen will hopefully something more accurate at this

:43:52. > :44:11.time. Taken out of the night sky. Georgie Twigg releases Alex Danson.

:44:12. > :44:20.Dashing forward. Getting up to the edge of the circle. Webb will

:44:21. > :44:25.restart. Some quick to her left, switches to the right to find Kate

:44:26. > :44:30.Richardson-Walsh. Her passes good. Helen Richardson-Walsh into the

:44:31. > :44:34.circle, across the goal and it will be a long corner. Fantastic ball by

:44:35. > :44:40.Kate Richardson-Walsh to Crista Cullen. I thought Cullen was going

:44:41. > :44:52.to take one touch and crashed the ball into the circle.

:44:53. > :45:08.Opportunity has gone away now following that Mr pass from Crista

:45:09. > :45:12.Cullen. -- missed pass. It's too easy for the Dutch to get out of

:45:13. > :45:21.that situation. Maartje Paumen was able to roll the ball. Britain need

:45:22. > :45:30.to work harder higher up the field to put numbers around the ball area.

:45:31. > :45:40.Kate Richardson-Walsh. Of the Dutch player, flicked forward. Very

:45:41. > :45:45.physical. Danson on the chase. Danson has managed to get hold of

:45:46. > :45:51.it. Back to her feet, a brilliant attacking play from Alex Danson.

:45:52. > :46:05.Three Great Britain players. Four now in the circle. Bray calling for

:46:06. > :46:10.it. Shona McCallin with the ball, had options to play the ball out

:46:11. > :46:15.around the back, decided to go one-on-one against Keetels, who

:46:16. > :46:19.jabbed the ball onto Shona McCallin's stick and across the

:46:20. > :46:22.baseline. At least we're seeing Great Britain try to win the ball

:46:23. > :46:30.high in Iraq, putting the Dutch players under more pressure. -- win

:46:31. > :46:48.the ball while you're up. Watched all the way by Sam Quek. She has

:46:49. > :46:52.support. Ansley involved again. Great Britain have ten minutes left

:46:53. > :46:57.in which to score a goal. And gets level with the Dutch in the

:46:58. > :47:01.gold-medal match. If its level at full time will have the penalty

:47:02. > :47:05.shoot out the way things stand the Dutch are taking the gold and silver

:47:06. > :47:12.will go to Great Britain. But there is a lot of hockey to be played.

:47:13. > :47:30.Lots of space here on the left for van Geffen. Verschoor ahead of her.

:47:31. > :47:34.Van Geffen losing a few seconds while she chooses her options here.

:47:35. > :47:41.Find Verschoor. Tackled by Nicola White on one side and Helen

:47:42. > :47:50.Richardson-Walsh on the other. The card has been shown to Leurink, who

:47:51. > :47:54.will have two minutes absence from the field. Nicola White restarts,

:47:55. > :48:03.finds Alex Danson, Great Britain have a player over. They had to take

:48:04. > :48:09.advantage of this situation. Townsend down the right, lays it

:48:10. > :48:13.back. Penalty corner awarded. Great Britain's first of the match. Now

:48:14. > :48:19.they have an opportunity. To get level in the gold-medal game.

:48:20. > :48:24.Fantastic, simple hockey. Ball rolled in by Susannah Townsend to

:48:25. > :48:29.Lily Owsley. Lily Owsley immediately goes to video referral, no need,

:48:30. > :48:35.Michelle Javed spots it and gives Great Britain their first penalty

:48:36. > :48:40.corner of the game. -- Joubert spot it. Kate Richardson-Walsh is going

:48:41. > :48:43.to inject the ball and Laura Unsworth is on, as you will see from

:48:44. > :48:49.the pictures, Laura Unsworth is stood on the right. Ansley stood on

:48:50. > :48:55.the left. Kate Richardson-Walsh to inject. Fired in, it's bouncing

:48:56. > :49:01.around. Desperate stuff. Another penalty corner coming.

:49:02. > :49:10.Not too far away. All comes out to Giselle Ansley... Alex Danson

:49:11. > :49:15.sliding income almost getting too good to touch. Keetels on the

:49:16. > :49:21.goal-line made the save. It was promising. Another opportunity now.

:49:22. > :49:32.Same personnel involved, Unsworth and Ansley. Ansley again. Unsworth!

:49:33. > :49:37.Pushed forward by Danson. Scored! Great Britain are level. I think it

:49:38. > :49:42.could be Nicola White, not 100% certain. Doesn't matter, doesn't

:49:43. > :49:51.matter at the moment. We'll find out. The Netherlands 3-3 Great

:49:52. > :49:57.Britain. Eight and a half minutes left in the gold-medal match. Who

:49:58. > :50:00.got the goal? Slipped left, Helen Richardson-Walsh in there, Danson

:50:01. > :50:03.has a go and it is Nicola White on the far post. Against all the odds,

:50:04. > :50:09.against all of the pressure, it doesn't matter. Right place, right

:50:10. > :50:18.time, Nicola White scores her third goal of the tournament and put it

:50:19. > :50:23.3-3. Eight and a half minutes left in the gold-medal game. The

:50:24. > :50:27.Netherlands 3-3 Great Britain. Naomi van As regrouping, trying to put

:50:28. > :50:47.pressure on the British defence once again. Nicola White the goal-scorer.

:50:48. > :50:57.Not bad is it, 100% record? White once again. That hurt. Lily Owsley

:50:58. > :51:05.screamed as she got hit on the shoulder, the shoulder is strapped

:51:06. > :51:12.up. Winces of pain from Lily Owsley. Aerial ball. A flick on it from

:51:13. > :51:27.Giselle Ansley. Aiming for Kelly Jonker.

:51:28. > :51:34.Free hit for the Netherlands once again. Who else but Naomi van As on

:51:35. > :51:47.the right-hand side? Into the circle and behind.

:51:48. > :51:56.Van Maasakker fires a ten, nobody there to receive. -- fires it in.

:51:57. > :52:01.Just goes to show doesn't matter how much possession you have in a game,

:52:02. > :52:05.the one thing GB have been is cynical in their execution, they

:52:06. > :52:09.haven't had many chances, but boy have they taken them when they've

:52:10. > :52:13.had to. Lily Owsley loses possession, desperately trying to

:52:14. > :52:19.get it back. Six and a half minutes left in the match. The Dutch are

:52:20. > :52:27.dangerous once more. Great Britain players on their knees trying to

:52:28. > :52:36.defend. It's behind. Britain have possession. Alison and I am watching

:52:37. > :52:47.on, looking slightly less content than she was ten minutes ago. Hollie

:52:48. > :52:56.Webb. Got possession. Unable to find Nicola White. Who is replaced by

:52:57. > :53:00.Georgie Twigg. There's an intensity about the way Britain are playing at

:53:01. > :53:14.the moment. That's a lovely turn. Danson. Danson held it up. : Crista

:53:15. > :53:27.Cullen has come forward, send it to Giselle Ansley. Back to Kate

:53:28. > :53:36.Richardson-Walsh. Good skills to get the Dutch out of trouble. They are

:53:37. > :53:45.at halfway. And continuing the on. Six redshirts around the loan Dutch

:53:46. > :53:56.attacker. Welten it is who has held it up now. Van Geffen. Towards the

:53:57. > :54:01.circle. Held up beautifully by Hollie Webb, whose stock has risen

:54:02. > :54:08.as this Olympic tournament has unfolded. Sophie Bray tries to find

:54:09. > :54:11.an escape route. The calmness of Hollie Webb. She realised she had

:54:12. > :54:22.time on the ball, didn't rush the clearance.

:54:23. > :54:33.Great Britain will have the free hit. Web sprints up to take care of

:54:34. > :54:38.it. That mistake from Holland game because Lily Owsley was prepared to

:54:39. > :54:43.put the mileage in and basically put van Maasakker under pressure as the

:54:44. > :54:47.centre back, bobbled the ball out to van Geffen, who you would expect to

:54:48. > :54:54.trap it anyway. Need more of the same from Britain. Townsend trying

:54:55. > :55:01.to break away down the left, to take the free hit. Another mistake from

:55:02. > :55:06.the Dutch midfield. As Owsley strikes. She's on her way, she has

:55:07. > :55:12.Bray. Helen Richardson-Walsh ahead of her. Appeals for the penalty

:55:13. > :55:33.corner. The umpire has stopped the clock and Owsley has gone over.

:55:34. > :55:54.A back stick. Not in the circle. It's inside the five, if anything,

:55:55. > :56:01.it's going to be a hit to Britain, rather than a penalty corner. It was

:56:02. > :56:06.close. Looked like a back stick possibly could have been an edge.

:56:07. > :56:11.The video umpire with more angles than we can get. The thing Lisa

:56:12. > :56:19.Roach has to decide, if it hits the back of the stick is it deliberate

:56:20. > :56:29.by Maartje Paumen, which would be a penalty corner.

:56:30. > :56:44.Tense moments while the video umpire weighs up her options now. Looks

:56:45. > :56:47.again and again. I personally don't think it's a penalty corner but

:56:48. > :56:53.that's just my opinion from what I've seen on a couple of replays.

:56:54. > :57:00.Lisa Roach asking for more options to study. 3-3 with three and a half

:57:01. > :57:08.minutes left on the clock. Huge decision from the video umpire.

:57:09. > :57:13.Right here. There is no back of the stick, GB lose their referral. The

:57:14. > :57:18.gamble didn't pay off for Lily Owsley, they lost the video

:57:19. > :57:23.referral. But nothing worse than that. The Dutch will have a free hit

:57:24. > :57:28.inside their 23 in the last three and a half minutes of the match. It

:57:29. > :57:36.will now unfold. We have an three. If it stays like this we will go to

:57:37. > :57:38.penalties. Susannah Townsend trying to wriggle her way out of there.

:57:39. > :58:10.Naomi van As. She's everywhere. Aerial ball from Ansley goes

:58:11. > :58:16.straight out of play. It's a tense one, this, isn't it? Extraordinary!

:58:17. > :58:22.Fingernails being bitten all around the Deodoro Olympic hockey arena.

:58:23. > :58:28.Fans have been just watching, unable to make too much noise. It's been

:58:29. > :58:35.relatively quiet. It's fallen for Sophie Bray... No, the whistle has

:58:36. > :58:43.gone. It's the gold-medal match. 3-3. Two and a quarter minutes left

:58:44. > :58:46.in this final. If it's still all square after that we will go to a

:58:47. > :58:53.penalty shoot out, the Dutch coming forward, Maddie Hinch is down,

:58:54. > :59:01.Maddie Hinch is safe. Raised by Maddie Hinch. Welten comes flying

:59:02. > :59:13.through at speed. The Dutch brewing for the referral. -- going for the

:59:14. > :59:22.referral. Welten wins the ball, takes a quick free hit, round

:59:23. > :59:30.Richardson-Walsh. Looked as though Britain got a slight touch on it

:59:31. > :59:37.first. Just thereby Crista Cullen. Dutch looking for a penalty corner

:59:38. > :59:43.with two minutes left on the clock. Another massive call for Lisa Roach.

:59:44. > :59:59.Once again, we wait. The gamble fails to pay off for the

:00:00. > :00:10.Dutch. We will have a restart with Great Britain in possession.

:00:11. > :00:19.Welcome to viewers on BBC Two. 3-3 in the gold-medal match. Two minutes

:00:20. > :00:25.left. On the clock. Penalty shoot out, potentially, looming. And all

:00:26. > :00:33.the drama and further tension that will bring with it.

:00:34. > :00:39.In the back of the Dutch minds, the last two times they have faced

:00:40. > :00:44.Maddie Hinch on a penalty shoot out, there is a minute and a half left to

:00:45. > :00:48.play, they have lost, they lost in Belgium in the Europeans to England,

:00:49. > :00:54.in the semifinals. They lost the European cup. Last summer, to

:00:55. > :01:00.England. Van As roared every step of the way. Kate Richardson-Walsh back

:01:01. > :01:07.tidying up. Again, unstoppable when she's on this flag. Sent across.

:01:08. > :01:16.Inch sticks out a big right foot and sends it clear. Free hit this side.

:01:17. > :01:29.Inside the final 60 seconds of the game.

:01:30. > :01:37.And more chance for Great Britain to finish it in normal time. Pressing

:01:38. > :01:43.forward but cautiously, which is understandable -- one more chance.

:01:44. > :01:49.30 seconds left in the gold-medal game. Helen Richardson-Walsh finds

:01:50. > :01:50.Georgie Twigg who sets it running down the right. Sophie Bray loses

:01:51. > :02:07.possession. Last ten seconds. The gold-medal

:02:08. > :02:14.game is going to a penalty shoot out. 3-3 at the end of normal time.

:02:15. > :02:28.Penalties to follow. Well, it is penalties now. Great

:02:29. > :02:31.Britain, somehow, Simon, somehow, have clawed themselves back into it

:02:32. > :02:36.because for long periods, from the second period till the end of the

:02:37. > :02:40.game, the Dutch dominated. They dominated, they have so much

:02:41. > :02:44.possession, they turned Great Britain over in dangerous midfield

:02:45. > :02:46.areas but Great Britain have been successful over not just this

:02:47. > :02:51.tournament but the last couple of years in terms of the confidence in

:02:52. > :02:56.their deep defence, the ability of Maddie Hinch, which has been unreal

:02:57. > :02:59.and they ride it again and again and ever come forward and get a chance

:03:00. > :03:03.and score the goal. By heart is beating fast, I can only imagine

:03:04. > :03:08.what they are going through. Take us through the penalty shoot out

:03:09. > :03:12.format. It exists as an eight second timed opportunity. The attacker

:03:13. > :03:16.starts from the 23-metre line, the goalkeeper starts from the

:03:17. > :03:21.goal-line. The will advance on the whistle, as will the carrier. -- the

:03:22. > :03:26.goalkeeper. If there is a rebound, you can go again until the time runs

:03:27. > :03:31.out. If the goalkeeper fouls, it can be upgraded to a penalty stroke or

:03:32. > :03:34.if it is deemed to be not deliberate, it can be retaken.

:03:35. > :03:39.Essentially, it is an eight second one on one. The reason we are into

:03:40. > :03:44.penalties is because somehow Great Britain dragged themselves back into

:03:45. > :03:48.it with the equaliser. And what an equaliser, one corner, one chance,

:03:49. > :03:54.it wasn't pretty. In the end, knocked on by Nicola White, we

:03:55. > :03:59.think. They had to believe. Mel and Matt in commentary talked about

:04:00. > :04:04.believe. It comes through years of training, it is ingrained, it is

:04:05. > :04:07.born out of training in the dark on a wet December evening, just sheer

:04:08. > :04:11.repetition and it takes you through a game when the opponent is

:04:12. > :04:16.dominant, the opponent dictates and it's all over you but you hold fire

:04:17. > :04:20.and hold firm. It was Nicola White indeed who got the equaliser. Maddie

:04:21. > :04:24.Hinch has been the star throughout the tournament. What advantage does

:04:25. > :04:28.she give us going into this penalty shoot out, if any at all? Her

:04:29. > :04:33.preparation. Maddie Hinch allegedly has a little black book and

:04:34. > :04:37.apparently tactics in the game are ridden on the back of a water

:04:38. > :04:41.bottle. Every penalty stroke she has saved, she will have studied the

:04:42. > :04:44.opponent and then a massive amount of preparation. She knows what she

:04:45. > :04:48.did in the European cup final the England, the nodes in the little

:04:49. > :04:53.black book. Does it matter that the Dutch came through a penalty shoot

:04:54. > :04:57.out in the semifinals? Makes no difference. These players do it day

:04:58. > :05:01.in, day out. Maddie Hinch will know what to do as a goalkeeper, the

:05:02. > :05:05.field players will know what to do but for me, it is having a basic

:05:06. > :05:09.understanding and knowledge of what you want to achieve. The goalkeeper

:05:10. > :05:14.can't dictate an area or an option but don't get cautious, stick with

:05:15. > :05:19.what you know. So important to keep a clear mind. Maddie Hinch just

:05:20. > :05:24.looking at her book, so spot on. Is there anyway of telling the skills

:05:25. > :05:30.that these guys have. How much practice have they done, how much

:05:31. > :05:39.skill can you use in this penalty shoot out? They will have practised

:05:40. > :05:45.until it becomes instinctive. 1,000 hours, 300 repetitions for it to

:05:46. > :05:48.become instinctive. You are subconsciously looking at what the

:05:49. > :05:52.goalkeeper is doing, read the position, see the shift of weight,

:05:53. > :05:58.go to a different space, as a goalkeeper, look at the stick, is it

:05:59. > :06:02.turning over? It is about instinctive knowledge. This is real

:06:03. > :06:04.drama coming up. The penalty shoot out not far away. Matt, Mel, keeping

:06:05. > :06:13.our fingers crossed. Everything crossed up here in the

:06:14. > :06:16.commentary box. Helen Richardson-Walsh will be first away.

:06:17. > :06:23.Helen Richardson-Walsh to take on the goalkeeper Joyce Sombroek. The

:06:24. > :06:30.eight second time will appear on the giant scoreboard and then the umpire

:06:31. > :06:32.will blow the whistle for the start. First penalty of the shoot out in

:06:33. > :06:53.the gold-medal game. Helen Richardson-Walsh on her way.

:06:54. > :06:58.Paul Soukup. Saved and behind. -- holds it up. It wasn't the best from

:06:59. > :07:03.Helen Richardson-Walsh, she does the right thing coming in here and turns

:07:04. > :07:06.her back and at that moment, doesn't get the drag that she needs to put

:07:07. > :07:16.the ball out of reach of Joyce Sombroek. Bos took the first in the

:07:17. > :07:18.semifinal and has stepped up first again today. She tends to come in

:07:19. > :07:33.and slap the top. Hinge goes out to meet her and does

:07:34. > :07:39.enough. It is behind, it is a mess. -- Miss. Maddie Hinch sprinted off

:07:40. > :07:43.her line. Who would be a coach? Hinge is very clever, she changes

:07:44. > :07:51.where she starts her run up every time -- Maddie Hinch. Alex Danson up

:07:52. > :07:58.next. She will take Great Britain's second penalty.

:07:59. > :08:07.Charging towards Sombroek. Sweeps it round, still time left. Now she has

:08:08. > :08:13.run out of time. Three penalties, no luck from any player yet.

:08:14. > :08:22.One of the world's best players can't stand to watch. Danson

:08:23. > :08:27.choosing to turn her back. Ice hockey type saved by Sombroek, being

:08:28. > :08:29.able to do the splits. It is why the goalkeepers do the training and the

:08:30. > :08:35.stretching and everything they do. Ellen Hoog is up for the Dutch. She

:08:36. > :08:37.missed her first one in the semifinal but did score when it got

:08:38. > :08:57.to sudden death. Hinch kicks it clear. They have run

:08:58. > :09:05.out of time. Maddie Hinch, absolutely brilliant. Maddie Hinch

:09:06. > :09:10.on this one deciding, you will see, she comes out very slowly this time.

:09:11. > :09:16.Stutters as she comes out, really puts off Ellen Hoog. She tries to

:09:17. > :09:22.roll it under Hinch who does exceptionally well not to uncover

:09:23. > :09:29.the ball -- cover the ball and give away another penalty. Sophie Bray.

:09:30. > :09:44.She is brought down. Penalty stroke. So in this situation, anybody can

:09:45. > :09:47.take the penalty stroke, it doesn't have to be the person involved in

:09:48. > :09:54.the shoot out, which is why Sophie Bray is coming back.

:09:55. > :09:59.Sombroek has changed her stick for the penalty stroke as well. A lot of

:10:00. > :10:05.goalkeepers choose a much longer stick. It is Helen Richardson-Walsh

:10:06. > :10:11.striding forward to take the penalty stroke.

:10:12. > :10:30.Helen Richardson-Walsh. Penalty stroke. Scores! Great Britain are

:10:31. > :10:36.off the mark in the shoot out. Love that place. The entire Dutch crowd

:10:37. > :10:41.were booing her. -- love that place. She will play her club hockey there

:10:42. > :10:44.next year. That is calmness under pressure, rolling the ball into the

:10:45. > :10:50.corner. Some of the girls can't watch. Next up for the Dutch,

:10:51. > :10:56.Leurink. Maddie Hinch not imposition just yet. In no real rush to get

:10:57. > :11:05.there, just to make things more tense four Leurink. Leurink is 19

:11:06. > :11:07.years of age so Hinch probably playing some mind Games. She is a

:11:08. > :11:16.quality player with a lot to learn. The Dutch haven't scored one yet.

:11:17. > :11:19.Can Leurink get there first? Going all the way around and Hinch pushes

:11:20. > :11:32.it away. I think that sums up everyone

:11:33. > :11:36.probably watching. It is brave for a 19-year-old to step up and take a

:11:37. > :11:39.penalty in the shoot out of an Olympic Games but Hinch again

:11:40. > :11:41.showing why she is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world

:11:42. > :12:01.in this situation. Laura Unsworth. Sombroek saves. Another chance.

:12:02. > :12:10.Hyundai over the top. -- too high and over the top. Laura Unsworth

:12:11. > :12:14.choosing to emulate Bos and take a shot from the top. Does the right

:12:15. > :12:19.thing trying to go over the top of the advancing keeper. Now we have

:12:20. > :12:31.got van Geffen for the Dutch. Hinch once again slapping her

:12:32. > :12:36.crossbar, slapping her posts. Van Geffen poised over the ball.

:12:37. > :12:46.Hinch watching it every step of the way. She has hit the post. She has

:12:47. > :12:54.missed. Hinch will clear. Bottom line right now is if Hollie Webb

:12:55. > :13:02.scores, if Hollie Webb scores... Week, Great Britain, win gold. This

:13:03. > :13:05.is the golden opportunity for Hollie Webb of Great Britain. Joyce

:13:06. > :13:25.Sombroek stands in her way. Hollie Webb on her way to win gold

:13:26. > :13:30.for Great Britain. Webb... Turns, scores! That is the golden goal!

:13:31. > :13:39.Great Britain have won the Olympic gold medal! The history makers, the

:13:40. > :13:46.hockey history makers! They will each leave Rio with a gold medal!

:13:47. > :13:53.Great Britain are the Olympic champions and they are on top of the

:13:54. > :13:58.world. Absolutely unbelievable. Look what it means to those players. Look

:13:59. > :14:06.what it means back home. Anybody who has been tuned in watching that on a

:14:07. > :14:07.Friday night, that is something else. I am speechless, I am not

:14:08. > :14:13.going to get emotional tonight because to be honest, I cannot

:14:14. > :14:16.believe what I have just seen. It is incredible, but Great Britain are

:14:17. > :14:21.walking off here with an Olympic gold medal. Eight from eight in the

:14:22. > :14:25.biggest tournament in the world. Yes, eight matches, eight wins.

:14:26. > :14:30.Danny Kerry is on the pitch at last. He spends most of his time in the

:14:31. > :14:34.stands. He is down there to celebrate with his players and the

:14:35. > :14:41.rest of his staff. Great Britain's 24th gold medal of these Games. The

:14:42. > :14:46.first time Britain's hockey team, the women's British hockey team,

:14:47. > :14:53.have struck gold. Maddie Hinch in the goal for Great Britain, once

:14:54. > :14:58.again, the hero of the occasion. And the Dutch, who won the last two

:14:59. > :15:04.Olympic golds will have to settle for the silver tonight. It sounds

:15:05. > :15:08.good. I'm sorry, it sounds good. It doesn't happen very often, they are

:15:09. > :15:12.the number one team in the world for a reason and I tell you what, they

:15:13. > :15:16.put on display, there is no doubt about that in my mind and anyone

:15:17. > :15:23.watching, the Dutch are a credit to sport as well. That is all I can

:15:24. > :15:31.say, honestly. It is absolutely incredible, it really is incredible.

:15:32. > :15:36.So what about Maddie Hinch? We said it before the game. It is the third

:15:37. > :15:40.time now she has been the hero for England and Great Britain and she is

:15:41. > :15:45.going to love playing in Holland next year, she will walk into the

:15:46. > :15:50.team with a gold medal around her neck. And a golden goodbye to Kate

:15:51. > :15:54.Richardson-Walsh after so many years of dedicated service to her sport

:15:55. > :16:01.and to her nation. This is how Hollie Webb won the gold for Great

:16:02. > :16:08.Britain. We are never going to get bored of seeing that, are we, ever?

:16:09. > :16:16.And the celebrations can begin. What a night at the Diadoro. Great

:16:17. > :16:20.Britain are the Olympic champions. What a moment for Hollie Webb, what

:16:21. > :16:27.a moment for the Great Britain hockey team, what a moment for the

:16:28. > :16:32.sport back home, Simon? I am genuinely struggling to get that

:16:33. > :16:37.into words, in a game where Great Britain were under the cosh, where

:16:38. > :16:41.they came back into it again and again, there were a lot of people

:16:42. > :16:45.that felt if they got to penalties, they would win, they have the best

:16:46. > :16:50.goalkeeper in the world, who is unreal. Fair play to Maddie Hinch,

:16:51. > :16:55.saved everything put at her. That will change the face of British

:16:56. > :16:58.hockey, the impact on team sport is unbelievable. The Dutch team have

:16:59. > :17:02.done remarkably well, they have a lot to be proud of and together, the

:17:03. > :17:09.two teams have produced almost the dream final. It was a spectacle that

:17:10. > :17:15.I have not commentated on all been involved with ever. That was the

:17:16. > :17:19.finest display. It was up and down at times but as a game for the

:17:20. > :17:22.spectators in the stadium and those watching on television background,

:17:23. > :17:27.it was unreal. Lovely sportsmanship between the two sides as well. What

:17:28. > :17:33.does tonight say about the sport of hockey for you? For me, it shows

:17:34. > :17:37.that anybody, if they believe enough, any team, if they believe

:17:38. > :17:41.enough, can get to this stage. Some of the athletes are first-time

:17:42. > :17:44.Olympians, some of them three or four time Olympians, but you have to

:17:45. > :17:49.keep going. If you have a dream, you can fulfil it. Yes, it is about hard

:17:50. > :17:53.knocks and training and physical elements, but what these teams have

:17:54. > :17:57.displayed has been exceptional and to see them with the sportsmanship

:17:58. > :18:00.they are showing now, there are some good friends out there who have

:18:01. > :18:04.battled till the last whistle. You can hear the celebrations in the

:18:05. > :18:09.Diadoro stadium, you can see the women dancing, the team are dancing,

:18:10. > :18:13.having a great time because, I imagine, the release after this

:18:14. > :18:17.two-week intense period, where they have banned social media, they have

:18:18. > :18:21.taken away from a taken themselves away, gone into lockdown to get

:18:22. > :18:28.ready for this moment. Now they can celebrate.

:18:29. > :18:33.They have gone into lockdown, the team and the support staff. What a

:18:34. > :18:38.result, they have put themselves beyond doubt as the class outfit in

:18:39. > :18:43.British team sport. What an exceptional result for them. In all

:18:44. > :18:47.truth tonight, they haven't been the best side, the Dutch looked much

:18:48. > :18:49.better, but what they have done tonight and throughout the

:18:50. > :18:55.tournament is shown belief, belief in each other, and such a bond that

:18:56. > :18:59.will not be broken. Absolutely, and it shows possession means nothing in

:19:00. > :19:03.sport. When it went to the penalty shoot out, it was in the Dutch

:19:04. > :19:07.minds. Hinchcliffe against the Dutch, three out of three,

:19:08. > :19:15.absolutely phenomenal. They talked after the champions Trophy, I

:19:16. > :19:17.commentated and I thought, how will you turn it around in 60 days? And

:19:18. > :19:24.they have, eight from eight, incredible. I hate to pick out

:19:25. > :19:29.individuals, every single one, and those who missed out on selection,

:19:30. > :19:38.they all played significant parts, but Danny Kerry and Kate in

:19:39. > :19:44.particular. I have been fortunate to have been coached by Kate and Danny.

:19:45. > :19:48.Danny is the best tactical person I've ever been coached by. He and

:19:49. > :19:52.his team go through hours of preparation to get the team in this

:19:53. > :19:56.position. Kate is one of the most humble hockey players I've come

:19:57. > :20:00.across. She has no idea of the impact she's had on this sport. Look

:20:01. > :20:04.at those scenes. You know it it's like to be part of that team. I

:20:05. > :20:08.don't know what it's like to feel like that. Honestly, I don't. But I

:20:09. > :20:17.have a lot of friends in there and I'm proud and privileged to say they

:20:18. > :20:23.are my friends. And I have a cup -- clubmates there as well. There will

:20:24. > :20:25.be a lot of celebrations at home. Looking at their faces, it seems

:20:26. > :20:30.like this is exactly what they expected. It might be what the

:20:31. > :20:34.expected and planned for, but they have genuinely no idea what they've

:20:35. > :20:42.done. They will savour this moment of absolute ever. The emotion and

:20:43. > :20:47.passion is outstanding. We will try to grab a quick interview. The crowd

:20:48. > :20:52.applauding, and also applauding the Dutch team behind us. To reiterate,

:20:53. > :20:56.they were outstanding and they contributed their part to a

:20:57. > :21:00.fantastic match. I'm certain this will have inspired an audience of

:21:01. > :21:06.players around the world who have not played hockey in the past. The

:21:07. > :21:11.skills on display from the Dutch offence were magnificent. From a

:21:12. > :21:15.British perspective, it might have been last-ditch, they had to hang on

:21:16. > :21:19.at times, but in essence that's what they did. They play to their

:21:20. > :21:26.strengths, they did it against Australia. They came back, Manny was

:21:27. > :21:30.brilliant. It might not have been pretty but it was effective.

:21:31. > :21:34.Celebrations continue, it's difficult to grab their attention.

:21:35. > :21:39.We would love to grab a word, but they all want to be part of what's

:21:40. > :21:46.going on. They are still wondering around, saluting every single member

:21:47. > :21:53.of the crowd. Part of the Great Britain support. We will have more

:21:54. > :22:05.reaction from him on BBC Two. And we can allow them to celebrate, because

:22:06. > :22:09.they deserve it. Tonight, we came here, they expected, we expected

:22:10. > :22:13.because they lifted our expectations, Simon. It's still

:22:14. > :22:18.difficult to believe it came off. It's hard to believe emotionally,

:22:19. > :22:23.but if we look at it in a cold light of day, this has been years in the

:22:24. > :22:28.making. So the girls expected, they believed, and they knew they could

:22:29. > :22:31.deliver this. Whether the fans knew and believed it, or whether it was a

:22:32. > :22:35.pipe dream, every single one of the players and support staff believe

:22:36. > :22:39.this moment could come. That's how they delivered in the face of this

:22:40. > :22:44.adversity, it was exceptional. Thank you so much. History made and a lot

:22:45. > :22:48.of celebrating going on. STUDIO: I genuinely think that's one of the

:22:49. > :22:56.greatest results ever for a women's team sport. We will have the medals

:22:57. > :22:59.ceremony and interviews on BBC Two. We will be leaving you shortly on

:23:00. > :23:05.BBC One. Coverage is already continuing on BBC Two. Composure,

:23:06. > :23:08.confidence and character has won a gold medal for the very first time

:23:09. > :23:15.in women's hockey for Great Britain. COMMENTARY MONTAGE: We are ready

:23:16. > :23:16.here for 60 minutes of blood, sweat and ultimately tears, one way or the

:23:17. > :23:26.other. Helen Richardson Walsh waiting in

:23:27. > :23:28.the centre of the circle, enough the legs and this time it's a score.

:23:29. > :23:40.Great Britain in front. The Dutch inside the circle, Hinch

:23:41. > :23:44.is out, narrowing the angle. And it's a goal for the Netherlands, 2-1

:23:45. > :23:53.in front. A chance for Colin, and she has scored. A second goal for

:23:54. > :23:55.the Dutch player. They've scored, Great Britain are level. Penalty

:23:56. > :24:03.shoot out. That's the golden goal! Is it hard to balance

:24:04. > :24:04.family and work? Well, family always come first...

:24:05. > :24:06.Nah - cos to me Kurupt FM is my work

:24:07. > :24:10.AND my family, so...
