:00:22. > :00:27.Hello again. If you have just finished the working week and are
:00:28. > :00:31.settling down to watch the final week of the Olympic Games you are
:00:32. > :00:36.just in time, because we are enjoying the final round of the
:00:37. > :00:45.individual show-jumping, the final event of the equestrian events. Nick
:00:46. > :00:50.Skelton and Big Star, they go in a couple of riders time, they jumped a
:00:51. > :00:52.clear round earlier in the day and it is all coming down to this final
:00:53. > :01:07.round now. Ack to Mike and Andy. Yes, the tension is building. We are
:01:08. > :01:17.notching up now. We are now seeing Matias Albarracin and Cannavaro.
:01:18. > :01:21.Very good performance from them. The other will be an individual from
:01:22. > :01:27.Ukraine. If either of them jump clear they will take up the lead at
:01:28. > :01:33.this stage of two Mac rounds for the individual medals.
:01:34. > :01:43.Still clear at the moment, what to try to make sure he stays inside the
:01:44. > :01:47.time. But it is not going to make a massive difference. 68 seconds. As
:01:48. > :01:56.long as he only gets one time fault he will still go into the lead at
:01:57. > :02:06.this stage. It is one for this round, one for the last round, he is
:02:07. > :02:12.an two, he can say to his mates and family, I led the individuals at one
:02:13. > :02:16.stage. Did not quite get going with his pace but the only interesting
:02:17. > :02:21.thing, is one more rider to come, but on one time fault, and if that
:02:22. > :02:27.rider goes clear, he will knock him down a place. But he has done all he
:02:28. > :02:41.could do, made sure he jumped fences and is in the lead at this stage.
:02:42. > :02:50.The tension is really building. The Argentinian team are delighted with
:02:51. > :02:59.that. Trotting down now, the one individual rider from the Ukraine,
:03:00. > :03:04.Rene Tebbel, road for Germany many times, and has not Britain in a
:03:05. > :03:17.championship for well over 20 years. -- has not ridden. He swapped
:03:18. > :03:24.allegiances and now represent Ukraine, and Zipper, 12 years old,
:03:25. > :03:29.has got him through to this stage. On that one time fault. If you can
:03:30. > :03:46.jump clear then momentarily at least, maybe longer, he is the new
:03:47. > :03:52.leader of the show-jumping hair at Deodora. The breeze has dropped and
:03:53. > :03:55.it is very hot. Well over 30, the heat is certainly having an effect.
:03:56. > :04:03.And there will be a considerable amount of jumping they have had to
:04:04. > :04:06.do to get to this final stage. The horses need to be fit and have
:04:07. > :04:11.plenty of energy but this big stallion is full of running. He has
:04:12. > :04:18.jumped clear round after clear round. The important thing for Rene
:04:19. > :04:30.Tebbel, if he wants to take the lead, he must get inside the time.
:04:31. > :04:35.68 seconds. If you goes over the time limit he is going to get one
:04:36. > :04:47.penalty for every four seconds. At the moment, the Argentinian has
:04:48. > :05:00.already finished on the one time fault. So, with the fence down it is
:05:01. > :05:10.all academic now. Just to get the time. 0.11 of a second over. Add in
:05:11. > :05:16.the one-time penalty from the previous round and he finishes and
:05:17. > :05:37.six. As we watch the pictures of Rene
:05:38. > :05:49.Tebbel and Zipper, sit tight, the next is the first of the clear
:05:50. > :06:01.round, Britain's Nick Skelton. Well, you have got to look back to 1972,
:06:02. > :06:07.Munich, when any -- Anne Moore last won an individual medal for Britain.
:06:08. > :06:11.Can Nick Skelton do what he has always felt this horse is capable of
:06:12. > :06:15.and win an individual medal at an Olympic Games? Big Star, Great
:06:16. > :06:41.Britain, Nick Skelton. Just a little rattle but it stayed
:06:42. > :06:48.up. A huge leap over number seven. Three
:06:49. > :07:05.fences to go. Time is going to be quite tight. He
:07:06. > :07:11.is close into the triple bar but he has jumped it. Just the last fence.
:07:12. > :07:19.Must get inside the time of 68. He has done it. Yes, he is inside the
:07:20. > :07:23.time. Only just inside the time, but he is. And Great Britain are still
:07:24. > :07:31.on target for a medal to finish the equestrian. Nick Skelton, the first
:07:32. > :07:36.of 13 clear, makes it a double. Absolutely riding for his life and
:07:37. > :07:43.Big Star showing the incredible class and quality we always knew he
:07:44. > :07:48.had, we always knew he could do this, and Nick Skelton has waited
:07:49. > :07:57.four years, a man who broke his neck before the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
:07:58. > :08:03.It is his seventh Olympics but there are not many parts of his body that
:08:04. > :08:10.are his own, he is a real bionic man! Let's hope that the bionic man
:08:11. > :08:17.can win medals. Well, sit tight. It is on now. As we come to the next,
:08:18. > :08:36.the Australian, coming in on a clean sheet so far, Edwina tops
:08:37. > :08:44.-- Alexander no doubt about the quality and show-jumping, no doubt
:08:45. > :09:08.about that. 14th in the world. Let's remind you, if we get
:09:09. > :09:10.equality, if there are clear rounds, there will be a jump off against the
:09:11. > :09:35.clock. This little athletic horse giving it
:09:36. > :09:40.absolutely everything. Bursting with energy, not tiring at all. Is it
:09:41. > :09:52.going to be our second double clear? She is a long way off. Did not like
:09:53. > :09:58.that's tried going in and changed her mind, it is a bit of an optical
:09:59. > :10:05.illusion, unfortunately, Edwina got it all wrong. Inside the time,
:10:06. > :10:13.reasonably comfortable, but it is that triple bar, and it is full
:10:14. > :10:20.penalties, it drops down. -- drops her down. Edwina just picked up a
:10:21. > :10:26.stride a bit too early to that triple bar, it is a funny fence to
:10:27. > :10:31.look at, unusual to have a triple into a double, and she had to change
:10:32. > :10:36.her mind, there was absolutely no chance of jumping it, and it was a
:10:37. > :10:46.great shame because Lintea Tequila was jumping out of her skin. Nick at
:10:47. > :10:52.the moment is the only clear. Let's not get overexcited! Here is a man
:10:53. > :11:04.who does not get overexcited, he is a cool cookie, the 43-year-old
:11:05. > :11:08.Jeroen Dubbeldam, with Zenith, the reigning world and European
:11:09. > :11:14.champion, a winner in Sydney in 2000, and this horse, produced
:11:15. > :11:18.beautifully back in Britain, he will be very proud of this horse,
:11:19. > :11:23.interestingly enough it is a horse that has been retained for the
:11:24. > :11:27.Dutch, but will go on sale fairly shortly, and that will be very
:11:28. > :11:35.interesting. Can this man do what Michael Yong did for eventing and
:11:36. > :11:36.hold all three titles? To have any chance you must join Nick Skelton on
:11:37. > :11:56.a clear round in this round. The last few championships, Zenith
:11:57. > :12:01.has been by far the most successful championship horse. European
:12:02. > :12:12.Championships, World Championships, and here he is at the Olympics.
:12:13. > :12:19.Where, it was one of those moments. Everyone holding their breath. But
:12:20. > :12:26.no better man than Jeroen Dubbeldam, time and time again he comes good.
:12:27. > :12:35.We never really matters. -- when it really matters. Now the triple bar.
:12:36. > :12:48.Immaculate. A little time check. 68 seconds. It will be close. And he
:12:49. > :12:55.has gone over, big drama. He has got a time fault. He will be cursing
:12:56. > :13:01.that. He looked to be cruising, but he is the man for judgment. And he
:13:02. > :13:13.just got this one is slightly wrong. That is extraordinary, the man who
:13:14. > :13:25.never makes mistakes, and Zenith was absolutely brilliant, so, there I
:13:26. > :13:31.say it .my? -- dare I say it... ? Sit tight, there is a long way to
:13:32. > :13:37.go! It looked to have clear round Britain all over it and I think the
:13:38. > :13:42.expression on the face of Jeroen Dubbeldam will tell you his
:13:43. > :13:54.disappointment. Confirmation of the 1-2- three at the moment.
:13:55. > :13:59.Switzerland now. We have dynasty is in British show-jumping, non-more so
:14:00. > :14:07.than the Whitakers, were here now is the Swedish dynasty, the Fuchs
:14:08. > :14:13.family, Martin, son of Thomas, and his uncle Marcus, again and other
:14:14. > :14:17.star, and this is a star very much in the ascendancy. A young rider, a
:14:18. > :14:23.European champion, and on this lovely horse Clooney, already right
:14:24. > :14:30.up the world rankings, and jumping at the very highest level. Looked to
:14:31. > :14:35.be getting it right in a previous Grand Prix but did not go his way.
:14:36. > :14:40.But he has been very good here at the Olympics, his first. Clear in
:14:41. > :15:03.the first of the individual rounds. It is just so important, as we have
:15:04. > :15:06.just seen with Jerome Dobbledaum, there is a lot of space in this
:15:07. > :15:11.arena, they have got to get moving, and that is another one. Clear
:15:12. > :15:23.rounds are very, very scarce. The other thing to think about is that
:15:24. > :15:26.the four falters who jumped clear, then any of the previously clear
:15:27. > :15:33.round to make faults in this round, they will all go level. As things
:15:34. > :15:38.stand gold, silver, and bronze is already organised. That is already
:15:39. > :15:47.in order. Nick Skelton on a clear. Jerome Dobbledaum, on one. The
:15:48. > :15:59.Argentinian, on two. Clooney, meanwhile, a total of four overall
:16:00. > :16:06.for the two rounds. One by one and they bite the dust. Exactly, that
:16:07. > :16:10.was one of the horses that could definitely have jumped clear. Again,
:16:11. > :16:14.he finds the first part of the combination. But the Swiss flags are
:16:15. > :16:26.out. The Swiss flags are out for the
:16:27. > :16:38.reigning champion. And on the final day of
:16:39. > :17:18.London 2012 Steve Guerdat is a famous rider since he was 15.
:17:19. > :17:21.Steve Guerdat is another rider who comes good when it matters in the
:17:22. > :17:32.big moments. He's jumping out of his skin down
:17:33. > :17:49.the combination. Steve looked worried Judy Downey
:17:50. > :17:56.first inspection, the horse did not look great. The horses got better
:17:57. > :17:59.and better. -- during the first inspection. That is where Nino Des
:18:00. > :18:07.Buissonnets is at his best. He dug deep. The time is good. I rounded
:18:08. > :18:15.the corner. The Olympic gold medal is going to be a timer jumpoff for
:18:16. > :18:21.sure. Switzerland joined Britain. Two clear rounds. It is game on.
:18:22. > :18:27.Steve Guerdat is not letting his title go to easily. He fought really
:18:28. > :18:33.hard. He had to work very hard to jump the big double. Nino Des
:18:34. > :18:39.Buissonnets, what a horse. He is 15 now. Look at the face of Steve.
:18:40. > :18:43.Sheer determination. It was determined riding and the horse that
:18:44. > :18:54.gives absolutely everything. That is what you want. We have got a
:18:55. > :19:04.jumpoff. It will go to the wire. Confirmation of the situation. A two
:19:05. > :19:07.clear rounds left to jump. This is a little grey horse you will
:19:08. > :19:27.recognise, jumped around many British tracks.
:19:28. > :19:46.This horse has got better and better. Team bronze down in the
:19:47. > :19:51.dirt. Sergio Alvarez Moya has jumped this small grey horse to some big
:19:52. > :19:52.results. If he stays clear then we have the three we jumpoff. It could
:19:53. > :20:04.be more. At this stage in the competition,
:20:05. > :20:08.towards the end of the week, it does not matter what preparation the
:20:09. > :20:14.horses have had to get you. You need a horse that does not give up on you
:20:15. > :20:25.and keep trying. This little horse, his ears pricked up, trying his
:20:26. > :20:26.best. He's years old as well. -- 15 years old. Just the two clear rounds
:20:27. > :20:45.at the moment. It is a long way around when you hit
:20:46. > :20:49.an early fence, you know the chances of a medal have gone. Just finish
:20:50. > :20:57.off your road and see where you get to in the final order. -- round.
:20:58. > :21:03.Little Carlo has done well all week. He is tiring over the last few
:21:04. > :21:12.jumps. He reaches for the last but gets a time fault. It is nine for
:21:13. > :21:13.this round. Total of nine. That is where the four defaulters will claim
:21:14. > :21:26.another place. Just one round to many for Carlo.
:21:27. > :21:44.Some of the horses coming into this last round, finding it hard going.
:21:45. > :21:59.The one Spanish goes out in the individual. One of two that have
:22:00. > :22:05.come into this final day from Qatar. It is Al Thani. They have surpassed
:22:06. > :22:15.themselves and their first Olympic Games.
:22:16. > :22:20.He has done to MacWorld games. We have got experience and putting that
:22:21. > :22:31.experience good effect. But we get the rider from Qatar
:22:32. > :22:53.through to the jumpoff. Every time you come to a
:22:54. > :23:01.championship, there are always one or two horses the and catch a ride.
:23:02. > :23:07.This is one of them. He wants to jump at the horse -- everything is
:23:08. > :23:08.clear. He tries so hard and makes the same shape over every fence.
:23:09. > :23:35.Very intelligent horse. He has got it. He will be OK. It
:23:36. > :23:48.might be close. Could not get any closer. He is indeed jumpoff for the
:23:49. > :23:53.medals. The times are changing. The riders from Qatar are getting closer
:23:54. > :24:01.and closer. They have been brilliant all week. Not just ordinary
:24:02. > :24:06.horsepower, super horsepower. The first of the genre and a special
:24:07. > :24:13.horse. All of these horses that can jump clear around here, they are out
:24:14. > :24:21.of the ordinary. Look at that for effort over the last defence. Very
:24:22. > :24:25.happy jockey, quite rightly so. I like the way the riders point to the
:24:26. > :24:30.horse and see it is all down to them. That is the jumpoff situation.
:24:31. > :24:36.If you have got a deal then you go again against the clock. We have got
:24:37. > :24:41.two from Germany, one from France and one from America. One from
:24:42. > :24:52.Sweden. And do not discount Canada, the last to go. Christian Ahlman has
:24:53. > :24:57.had four Olympics but he has not had the best of fortune in those
:24:58. > :25:07.Olympics. He would dearly like to put it right. Christian Ahlman with
:25:08. > :25:12.Taloubet. Since 2009 when he went on to the world stage, there are not
:25:13. > :25:16.too many majors that he has not won. Germany only got the bronze medal
:25:17. > :25:26.for the team event. Are they going to put that right this afternoon?
:25:27. > :25:29.Christian Ahlman and Taloubet. When you see, only the bronze, the
:25:30. > :25:38.Germans -- some nations would be pleased with that. It felt like a
:25:39. > :25:43.disappointment for the Germans because they were so good. Christian
:25:44. > :25:56.Ahlman is a class act and this is a capable horse. Taloubet is 16 years
:25:57. > :26:04.of age and is a strong stallion. Can he keep operating Agnes hit? -- can
:26:05. > :26:05.he keep operating in this heat? The way he took that event, it was
:26:06. > :26:27.brilliant. Nobody is clear until the jump the
:26:28. > :26:31.stubble. -- jump this double. That is a big danger out of the way for
:26:32. > :26:39.the Nick Skelton. Just the three going through to the jump off at the
:26:40. > :26:43.moment. Get inside the time but it is one down, total of four for the
:26:44. > :26:52.two grounds for Christian Ahlman and Taloubet. The Germans are still with
:26:53. > :26:55.one rider to come. He has jumped into the double, slightly forward.
:26:56. > :27:03.That is the way it is built. The triple bar is so unusual to the 190
:27:04. > :27:11.wide triple bar. But vertical is 160. Maximum height. Very hard to
:27:12. > :27:16.jump that double on a horse that is tiding a little bit. I bet Bob Ellis
:27:17. > :27:25.and his mates at home will be looking at some of the tricks to try
:27:26. > :27:39.to divide the world stars. That is what we have here. Daniel Deusser
:27:40. > :27:45.from Germany, first Olympic Games and one World Cup final. He rides in
:27:46. > :27:52.Belgium. He is riding the 11-year-old First Class. Germany's
:27:53. > :27:59.last chance to try to join the queue for the medals. And looking down the
:28:00. > :28:03.line, you wonder how many are going to be in that queue? We have got
:28:04. > :28:13.three and I think we could get at least the Matt Moore. -- three more.
:28:14. > :28:21.For this round I thought we would get 5-6 into the final jumpoff. It
:28:22. > :28:25.might be three at the moment. This couple have every chance of doing
:28:26. > :28:27.so. It is a powerful horse but he made the mistake. Another big, heavy
:28:28. > :28:42.horse tiring in the heat. Nick Skelton in that jumpoff for
:28:43. > :29:00.Britain. I think one of the things you need
:29:01. > :29:04.to remember about the championship is it as a test of fitness and
:29:05. > :29:10.stamina, not just a one off Grand Prix. These horses have had to jump
:29:11. > :29:17.quite a few rounds to keep up the level and then they come out and
:29:18. > :29:23.perform today over a massive course. Some of these five and some are six
:29:24. > :29:27.for the jumpoff for bronze medal. The total is four for the two
:29:28. > :29:30.grounds for Germany's Daniel Deusser and First Class. And still just
:29:31. > :29:47.three are clear. Two big German dangers for medals,
:29:48. > :29:52.one after the other, making one mistake. Just getting down to the
:29:53. > :29:58.final few riders. It is the nitty-gritty. France, America Sweden
:29:59. > :30:18.and Canada. Roger Yves Bost? Is 50 years old and
:30:19. > :30:22.one of the most popular show-jumpers. He is still in with
:30:23. > :30:32.the chance of becoming an Olympic champion. He is on Sydney Une
:30:33. > :30:37.Prince. It is a French bred horse. This man has worked 200%. He got
:30:38. > :30:39.France the team gold medal and now, can he do the same again to get
:30:40. > :30:52.himself an individual medal? One thing you can be sure of, it
:30:53. > :31:03.will not be for a lack of trying. He put absolutely everything into it,
:31:04. > :31:10.this man. This horse is really a fighter. He is in trouble. He is in
:31:11. > :31:13.big trouble. You could see he was not quite getting the distance.
:31:14. > :31:28.Another one bites the dust. I getting even more excited now. I
:31:29. > :31:35.guess I am beginning to join you. Three to go. In some respects we
:31:36. > :31:40.have seen spectacular jumping, one feels it be just nice if there is a
:31:41. > :31:46.jump of of three and everyone gets a medal, but I don't think it will end
:31:47. > :31:51.that way. Arlt goes Roger Yves Bost, he gets a time fault as well. Five
:31:52. > :31:57.it is in that second round. He boughs out, but an Olympic team gold
:31:58. > :32:03.medal in his second Olympics, his first back in 1996, that would be a
:32:04. > :32:10.good week's work for Roger Yves Bost and France. He has had a two rivet
:32:11. > :32:14.week, got his team gold, there he is, giving everything, but not quite
:32:15. > :32:24.able to stretch out of the combination.
:32:25. > :32:39.The crowd have fallen quite silent. We moved to what is undoubtedly the
:32:40. > :32:45.climax of some superb jumping. It is the American, Ken Farrington. Hair
:32:46. > :33:03.is the position, the three who will jump of John -- jump off for the
:33:04. > :33:07.medals. America's Kent Farrington, a winner all around the world in some
:33:08. > :33:11.of the very biggest arenas, he was in the team that finished with a
:33:12. > :33:15.bronze medal in the World Championships, it is his first
:33:16. > :33:23.Olympic Games, but he has a great temperament, and Voyeur is a very
:33:24. > :33:34.tough Dutch bred horse. Looking to jump clear for the medals, with the
:33:35. > :33:46.three who are through so far. The one thing about him, if he does get
:33:47. > :33:50.into the John -- jump off, he is one of the fastest in the world and the
:33:51. > :34:02.three who are already clear, they will not want to see this man join
:34:03. > :34:07.them. He gave that a big rattle coming out of the combination, close
:34:08. > :34:08.to the vertical. It is not the prettiest round at the moment but
:34:09. > :34:23.still clear. He appeared to be in all sorts of
:34:24. > :34:31.trouble. This is a very erratic round. But he is clear. Galloping to
:34:32. > :34:41.the last fence. He does touch it but it is clear. Quite comfortably
:34:42. > :34:51.inside the time. There are four jumping off for the medals. Britain,
:34:52. > :34:59.Switzerland, Qatar, and the USA. That was a white knuckle ride for
:35:00. > :35:07.Kent Farrington, quite erratic, picked his horse but, Voyeur, you
:35:08. > :35:18.really fights for him, so now we have the scenario of a jump off, and
:35:19. > :35:30.one of them will not get a medal. That is tough. Two riders to go,
:35:31. > :35:45.Sweden and Canada. It is Sweden's Peder Fredricson, on All In. He was
:35:46. > :35:52.with Mark told for a while, a great basis for his show-jumping, but now
:35:53. > :35:54.he is at the top of his game, Swedish show-jumping has been very
:35:55. > :36:02.consistent throughout these show-jumping competition is -- Mark
:36:03. > :36:11.Todd. Clear in the first round. This could just be the dark horse. This
:36:12. > :36:23.All In, only ten, has not put a foot wrong throughout every round,
:36:24. > :36:27.immaculately ridden so far by Peder Fredricson and on that combination
:36:28. > :36:38.you can see why. An incredibly effective jumper who does all the
:36:39. > :36:45.right things at all the right times. It is going to be tight for time. He
:36:46. > :36:48.is a naturally quick rider, super careful coming out of the double.
:36:49. > :36:59.Definitely will not have any time faults. Sweden joined the party.
:37:00. > :37:11.Clear over the two rounds. Five to jump off for the medals. One more to
:37:12. > :37:17.jump. Peder Fredricson, showing again immaculate temperament for the
:37:18. > :37:21.big occasion. He has not missed any strides, perfect rhythm and balance,
:37:22. > :37:26.always get around quickly around the arena, he is not one of the biggest
:37:27. > :37:30.names but he has certainly impressed this week. Plenty of jumping for joy
:37:31. > :38:00.in Scandinavia. and in terms of his competitive
:38:01. > :38:04.riding there are not many better. Quite brilliant, and he has a
:38:05. > :38:16.partnership with his fine lady that is again measuring up to that, can
:38:17. > :38:26.he join them and make it a six way jump off for the medals? Eric loves
:38:27. > :38:37.these big open spaces. He just keeps travelling, sees his stride a long
:38:38. > :38:49.way out. Fine Lady, really operating for him there. Another rider who, if
:38:50. > :38:54.he gets in the jump off, he is an absolute flying machine against the
:38:55. > :39:02.clock. Galloping into the double and a lot of pace, it worked, heart in
:39:03. > :39:08.the mouth stuff that was. He nearly came around ten seconds inside the
:39:09. > :39:13.time. He judges the last, and it is six. You will have no fingernails
:39:14. > :39:20.left at home. We have not got then here anyway. Nick Skelton is part of
:39:21. > :39:24.the John off. If you thought he is going to win the medal which she
:39:25. > :39:32.deserved in London then he will have to put his neck on the line. Eric
:39:33. > :39:36.just went round at jump off speed in this round so we are in for
:39:37. > :39:45.fireworks now. It really is going to be a quick one.
:39:46. > :39:55.Everybody has been talking about a fitting finale. That is what Canada
:39:56. > :40:04.think it is. Tiffany Foster is in there, one of the stable riders who
:40:05. > :40:13.goes out with Eric. A six horse and rider final jump off. And here they
:40:14. > :40:24.are... Take a pause, and extra breath,
:40:25. > :40:29.because you are going to need all of it for this jump off for the gold,
:40:30. > :40:39.silver, and bronze. Very exciting. Ten minutes to wait
:40:40. > :40:44.for that, six going into three, something has got to give, and Nick
:40:45. > :40:48.Skelton, appearing in a record seventh games, what a fitting climax
:40:49. > :40:53.this would lead to a career that started for two years ago. He has
:40:54. > :40:57.been a wonderful team player, part of the team gold in London but in
:40:58. > :41:02.terms of individual success the best he has got to show on his own as a
:41:03. > :41:06.bronze medal in the World Championships 20 years ago. So many
:41:07. > :41:13.people at home want him to get an Olympic medal on his own, on Big
:41:14. > :41:20.Star so we go back in ten minutes for that. Earlier and we saw Ben
:41:21. > :41:26.Maher, 17 penalties, it was not his day, let's get his thoughts.
:41:27. > :41:36.It is the end of a long, tough week of competition, was it just starting
:41:37. > :41:45.to get to Tic Tac? I think so. He is a bit short of competition. To come
:41:46. > :41:49.out twice in one day and this heat, it probably took its toll on him. I
:41:50. > :41:56.gave him quite a bit of work to do in the early two round, but it has
:41:57. > :42:00.been a good enough week for him. We came for the team primarily, I have
:42:01. > :42:06.learnt of bit about him, and I am sure he will be good after a rest.
:42:07. > :42:10.How much have you learned this week and how much potential is there,
:42:11. > :42:15.going forward? It will be a lot better if I start again in two
:42:16. > :42:19.months' time after a break. I learnt everything about him this week, it
:42:20. > :42:24.is just a shame it came a little early for me. I am pretty happy with
:42:25. > :42:30.the progression. He is not an old horse, so we have time, and a short
:42:31. > :42:36.break now before hopefully doing bigger things towards the end of the
:42:37. > :42:39.year, and next Jeff. We are back to see Nick Skelton in a few moments
:42:40. > :42:45.once they have reset the course. But we have time to catch up on what has
:42:46. > :42:49.gone on in the first day of competition in the modern
:42:50. > :42:54.pentathlon. There was a ranking row yesterday with the female athletes
:42:55. > :42:57.in fencing to see who is ranked top to bottom. And they go into the
:42:58. > :43:02.bonus fencing round now, having already been in the 200 metres
:43:03. > :43:08.freestyle swimming. Now they compete in the fencing. The worst of the
:43:09. > :43:14.graded fencers starts, and basically you stay there and fight allcomers,
:43:15. > :43:20.a sort of,, and have a go if you are sharp enough, if you'll pardon pun.
:43:21. > :43:25.The top ranked fencer, the longer you stay on, the more points you get
:43:26. > :43:30.towards your score. Samantha Murray, she took silver four years ago in
:43:31. > :43:34.the modern pentathlon, in fact the 65th and last medal won by the
:43:35. > :43:40.British athletes in their home games, she went well in the swim and
:43:41. > :43:43.has been fencing for fully five Alps now. Let's see how long she can keep
:43:44. > :43:59.it going. -- five bouts. Tamara Vega was the final athlete to
:44:00. > :44:03.complete her competition at 2012. We remember a fantastic afternoon at
:44:04. > :44:08.Greenwich so much. Samantha Murray became the final British medallist
:44:09. > :44:15.of the home games. Unfortunately Tamara Vega did not have a great
:44:16. > :44:21.ride in London, finishing equal 25th in the fencing with 15 victories.
:44:22. > :44:28.Samantha Murray has taken that one as well. This is turning into a very
:44:29. > :44:32.satisfactory fencing ranking round. But bearing in mind of the points
:44:33. > :44:36.that she could have got yesterday counted so much more than the points
:44:37. > :44:40.she is getting today, I am sure she will be asking herself, and her
:44:41. > :44:45.fencing coach will be saying, it would have been nice to see this
:44:46. > :44:50.yesterday. At the end of the day these are the lower ranked athletes
:44:51. > :44:53.fencing. When you are of her calibre, she really should be doing
:44:54. > :45:07.this, so it does not surprise me she is working her way through the list
:45:08. > :45:19.at the moment. Serapinaite, former junior world silver medallist.
:45:20. > :45:25.Serapinaite, got a bronze at the world finals this year and a silver
:45:26. > :45:31.medallist at the Junior World Championships in 2013. Currently
:45:32. > :45:45.ranked ninth in the world, lying in 20 First Place. -- 21st. Samantha
:45:46. > :45:52.again get it. The fist pump, and the crowd... We are very well-stocked
:45:53. > :45:58.for the dish supporters here in Rio -- British supporters. In the
:45:59. > :46:04.sunshine, it is great. This is what we did not see from Murray
:46:05. > :46:10.yesterday, this confidence. It is a flesh attack, flesh is French for
:46:11. > :46:15.are, so you create your leading arm into an and follow through with your
:46:16. > :46:21.body in very quick attack. We were not seeing this from her yesterday
:46:22. > :46:24.at all, the confidence has come back today, and she has set out
:46:25. > :46:30.determined to make amends for yesterday. Seven wins in a row in
:46:31. > :46:35.this very first fencing bonus round. Anastasio Spas of the Ukraine is her
:46:36. > :47:08.next opponent. And again, she is on a roll for
:47:09. > :47:12.fleche attacks. Anastasiya Spas, she had not qualified for any of the
:47:13. > :47:17.World Cup finals. Well below the calibre of Sam as an athlete. She
:47:18. > :47:25.disengaged her blade and took that it on. This is balancing again of
:47:26. > :47:30.what you would expect, it's Sam Murray should not be in this
:47:31. > :47:34.position starting this fencing and 31st position, she should have been
:47:35. > :47:38.hired up the order. This is important for her and this is a back
:47:39. > :47:44.point she has won in the bonus round. Every second is important.
:47:45. > :47:48.The hits that she lost yesterday were far more costly than she could
:47:49. > :47:56.actually claw back today from each of these victories. Kim from South
:47:57. > :48:04.Korea is the next opponent, she is 19 and at first Olympic Games.
:48:05. > :48:24.Kim is ranked 13th in the world. She is currently lying in 20th place.
:48:25. > :48:29.488 points. I was just about to say, unfortunately Kim got that fit over
:48:30. > :48:33.Sam Murray. I was going to say that after watching Sam fencing, she was
:48:34. > :48:39.becoming predictable in terms of what she was doing attack wise. I
:48:40. > :48:45.think Kim was ready for that attack. It was accurate. Good result for
:48:46. > :48:48.Sam, that will give her some confidence.
:48:49. > :48:53.HAZEL IRVINE: Samantha Murray was ranked 31 in the fencing going in
:48:54. > :49:00.and she won eight Mac boats. She has moved into ninth place overall. It
:49:01. > :49:04.is early days in that the fencing. In the bonus round. There's still
:49:05. > :49:09.lots to do today before the medals are handed out. They have got the
:49:10. > :49:13.show-jumping at 7:30pm in the evening UK time and many combined of
:49:14. > :49:18.running and shooting event at 10pm that will decide everything. Great
:49:19. > :49:23.stuff from Sam Murray. Keep things did not do so well and lost opening
:49:24. > :49:27.bout. We will keep you up-to-date on both of those athlete when we get
:49:28. > :49:31.that information. We are close to the jump of any individual
:49:32. > :49:37.show-jumping. The last of the equestrian events here in Rio. There
:49:38. > :49:44.is a real chance of a medal for 58 child Nick Skelton. Lee McKenzie, he
:49:45. > :49:47.said that Big Staff have been rusty in the team event but is coming
:49:48. > :49:54.good. We are seeing the evidence now. This is everything Nick has
:49:55. > :50:03.been talking about. He was frustrated not to have the chance to
:50:04. > :50:08.show off Big Star. He took time and patience with this horse getting it
:50:09. > :50:12.right after 2012. It had two years off with injury but Nick took the
:50:13. > :50:16.time to bring him back in for these Olympics specifically. He was
:50:17. > :50:19.disappointed not to get an individual medal in London and it
:50:20. > :50:24.would be fantastic if he could write about wrong today. He will be the
:50:25. > :50:30.first of the six competitors so he will set the pace. We're watching
:50:31. > :50:33.him walk into the arena in his seventh Olympic Games, on the horse
:50:34. > :50:40.that he won team gold four years ago. Big Star, can Nick Skelton get
:50:41. > :50:46.an individual medal after all these years? It will be a final and
:50:47. > :50:56.fitting last hurrah for them. COMMENTATOR: What more drama have we
:50:57. > :51:00.got ahead? The partner of Nick Skelton one team gold in Hong Kong.
:51:01. > :51:05.I remember the celebrations that night when they celebrated that Gold
:51:06. > :51:11.Medal. It would be a big celebration that this man can pull it off. It is
:51:12. > :51:14.a tough task but not to be taken for granted. There are some good horses
:51:15. > :51:23.and riders. Three are going to be unlucky. Big Star, now 13 years old,
:51:24. > :51:29.with Nick Skelton having won so many of the major titles around the
:51:30. > :51:35.world. This is the title, has hazel Irvine just said, that he wants more
:51:36. > :51:41.than any. Interestingly enough, the fact he is first goal might an
:51:42. > :51:48.advantage. He has never been somebody to take it slowly. He has
:51:49. > :51:54.to make a target for the rest which makes them under pressure. It has
:51:55. > :51:58.always suited Nick Skelton to go first in Nations cups. He likes to
:51:59. > :52:08.get out, do his round and try to put the pressure. He has to for it. This
:52:09. > :52:18.is for gold, Nick Skelton and going for Great Britain, in the jumpoff
:52:19. > :52:27.against the clock. From the second fence, back to this vertical. Inside
:52:28. > :52:41.turn. And now the double. Triple bar going in. Brilliantly over that and
:52:42. > :52:50.now the big one. Over in 28.8. Has to go back to this vertical. One
:52:51. > :53:01.fence left ago. Gallop to the last. Is it enough? 42.82. That is a great
:53:02. > :53:09.start. The rest will have to go for it. Absolutely the perfect technical
:53:10. > :53:13.round. Nick Skelton could not have done more. He has taken all the
:53:14. > :53:22.chances and put the pressure on. He has had a clear run. There he has,
:53:23. > :53:33.down to the last fence and now the pressure is on the other riders. He
:53:34. > :53:34.has got a proud son, one of the top National Hunt trainers and his other
:53:35. > :53:51.son is a good National Hunt trainer. The man trying to retain the title
:53:52. > :54:10.that he won in London in great style.
:54:11. > :54:16.Steve Guerdat and Ninos Des Buissonets are trying to get a
:54:17. > :54:28.back-to-back individual gold medal. The first fence has gone. Steve
:54:29. > :54:35.Guerdat has to put that behind him. He can still think about winning a
:54:36. > :54:39.medal if he just gets home clear. One rider that is not going to beat
:54:40. > :54:41.Nick Skelton. Interesting to look at the time. Nick Skelton did look
:54:42. > :54:47.quick around here. Steve Guerdat just going a little
:54:48. > :55:07.bit wider. 43.08. That was lower than Nick
:55:08. > :55:12.Skelton. He did not hang about. He jumped it on the angle and three.
:55:13. > :55:17.Once the first fence went down, you could sense that the concentration
:55:18. > :55:22.went for a second or two. Ninos Des Buissonets is a very quick course.
:55:23. > :55:29.He is just a fraction slower than Nick Skelton. 58 child Nick Skelton
:55:30. > :55:36.is currently leading with two gone out of the six to jump for the
:55:37. > :55:49.medals in Rio will stop the final individual
:55:50. > :56:16.He is an absolute mile of the second fence but he has cleared that. He
:56:17. > :56:27.has gone on a terrific very tight angle onto the vertical. He landed
:56:28. > :56:37.on the corner. This horse has been jumping brilliantly all week. He
:56:38. > :56:47.needs to be heard in 28.8. He has hit a fence. It has really put the
:56:48. > :56:57.pressure on these other riders. That has gone as well. It is two down.
:56:58. > :57:01.Sheikh Ali Al Thani, the Qatar team riding, riding as an individual. He
:57:02. > :57:08.will not get a medal but he will deserve the applause he is getting.
:57:09. > :57:13.He gave it absolutely everything, Sheikh Ali Al Thani. He tried his
:57:14. > :57:20.best. He went for that. Did not quite happen for him. It shows you
:57:21. > :57:23.know that with Nick Skelton going first, with that fast, clear round,
:57:24. > :57:34.these riders are under pressure to beat it. The next three are the real
:57:35. > :57:36.dangers. Kent Farrington to go first then Derick Petersen. America,
:57:37. > :57:59.Sweden and Canada for the medals. This probably is the biggest danger.
:58:00. > :58:03.They are all dangerous at the stage. This man is so dangerous against the
:58:04. > :58:16.clock, he lost to gallop and he is fearless, he will not hold back.
:58:17. > :58:25.That time to remind you that leads at the moment, 42.82. It has to be
:58:26. > :58:41.cleared to beat Nick Skelton. HAZEL IRVINE: you are watching a
:58:42. > :58:45.jumpoff for the medals in the individual show-jumping in Rio. Nick
:58:46. > :58:50.Skelton is one of six competitors, he's the only man clear so far. This
:58:51. > :58:56.is the fourth competitor, Kent Farrington of the United States. The
:58:57. > :59:00.coverage continues on BBC One. For those of you watching on BBC Two, up
:59:01. > :59:04.the likely I would ask you to reach for the remote control and join us
:59:05. > :59:15.on the other site for the continuation of this jumpoff.
:59:16. > :59:21.Kent Farrington had the first fence down and he is flying. It will not
:59:22. > :59:27.beat Nick Skelton because he hit the foot fist. -- had to be first fence.
:59:28. > :59:33.No doubt about it, we have got one medal.
:59:34. > :59:39.in a brand-new BBC Two quiz show, Debatable,
:59:40. > :59:43.where a team of celebrities put their debating skills to the test
