:00:54. > :01:04.Welcome back to the Copacabana, plenty of sport coming your way,

:01:05. > :01:09.including wrestling and tae kwon do. Yesterday we saw Jade Jones get the

:01:10. > :02:01.gold and tonight we will see if Lutalo Muhammad can.

:02:02. > :02:23.You see a lot of people only seeing Phil Jones' hand.

:02:24. > :02:36.He is definitely, definitely a key member of the A Team.

:02:37. > :02:38.Welcome to the athletics, and we have a great night

:02:39. > :02:43.Of course it is all about the relays, it is about

:02:44. > :02:46.distance in the 500 metres, it is about the hammer

:02:47. > :02:48.and the pole vault, and as Michael Johnson would say,

:02:49. > :02:55.it is about getting the baton around.

:02:56. > :03:01.And that is what his teammates have to do for him tonight.

:03:02. > :03:07.They have to make sure he is in with a shout to get the ninth gold.

:03:08. > :03:16.It is not as much pressure, you get a chance in the individual

:03:17. > :03:18.sport as an individual athlete to work together as a team,

:03:19. > :03:24.What we have seen over the years is the Great Britain team, the USA

:03:25. > :03:28.Running out of the zone, dropping it, all sorts of things.

:03:29. > :03:34.It is fun to watch and I would really like to see them all get

:03:35. > :03:37.round and have a competitive race down the home stretch and give them

:03:38. > :03:45.The British women relay squad have been really

:03:46. > :03:50.of years, they set a new personal best at the Anniversary Games,

:03:51. > :03:59.And it is important for them, they're so tight as a unit

:04:00. > :04:02.and they really work well together, tonight is the time when they can

:04:03. > :04:04.really come of age, because I believe they can get

:04:05. > :04:07.a medal, and they ought to get a medal, providing

:04:08. > :04:11.they take a bit of a risk, that is what they need to do

:04:12. > :04:17.When I say personal best I mean national record, and

:04:18. > :04:36.Asher Smiths, Anita Phillips and Henry. You nearly got them right.

:04:37. > :04:39.I think they know each other very well, that is the most

:04:40. > :04:49.They have a sense of comfort with each other.

:04:50. > :04:52.That builds that team spirit which is necessary for them.

:04:53. > :04:55.The other team you'll have to look out for is Germany,

:04:56. > :04:58.Germany works together as a team, they are very well drilled,

:04:59. > :05:03.For the men, they did not have the fastest qualification,

:05:04. > :05:06.they have Lane 1 which is where the US women are,

:05:07. > :05:08.because of a fandango that went on with their qualifications.

:05:09. > :05:19.Kilty, Harry Aitken rete, Adam Gemili and there is no room for CJ

:05:20. > :05:27.Ujah in that squad? You never know what decisions

:05:28. > :05:30.are made by coaches in terms What will happen is that the coaches

:05:31. > :05:33.will make those decisions based on things that have happened earlier

:05:34. > :05:36.in the year, things But what has taken place

:05:37. > :05:41.here in these championships, who knows why the coach

:05:42. > :05:43.made those decisions. That team always worries me,

:05:44. > :05:46.they always seem a little bit young and not very mature,

:05:47. > :05:49.and just not that cohesive. It always seems like they are

:05:50. > :05:52.a little bit rattled, and that is what happens,

:05:53. > :05:55.that is when you drop the baton, when you have people

:05:56. > :05:58.who are a little bit rattled and not so cohesive, and when I look

:05:59. > :06:03.at the women's team, I see a little bit more settled,

:06:04. > :06:07.comfort, like you say, In the heat of battle,

:06:08. > :06:12.this is no doubt the heat of battle. There is lots of activity

:06:13. > :06:16.going on around you, and just in raw terms,

:06:17. > :06:22.it is one person running in as fast as they possibly can and another

:06:23. > :06:25.person running out as fast as they can, the person in front

:06:26. > :06:29.cannot see the person in the back, and you are trying

:06:30. > :06:31.to exchange the baton. That is very difficult to do,

:06:32. > :06:36.and while there is much going on around you,

:06:37. > :06:38.and within a certain zone. Typically what happens

:06:39. > :06:42.is when teams drop the baton, It is because they do not

:06:43. > :06:56.get the pass right They plan for perfect handovers

:06:57. > :07:00.which rarely happens the first time. Teams practice for when it goes

:07:01. > :07:04.wrong, what to do next. You think there has to be trust,

:07:05. > :07:07.there has to be trust. That is why CJ has been

:07:08. > :07:09.left out of the team. I don't think he ran

:07:10. > :07:12.a good final leg. I have seen him run better,

:07:13. > :07:16.and he had that incident last year with himself and James Ellington

:07:17. > :07:20.on the third leg. That might be something

:07:21. > :07:26.to do with it. There are some people that coaches

:07:27. > :07:29.and athletes just go, God, I don't want that person

:07:30. > :07:31.on the relay team. Just because they are not

:07:32. > :07:34.good relay runners. They do not perform well under that

:07:35. > :07:37.sort of pressure. They may perform brilliantly

:07:38. > :07:45.as an individual, but when they have to work with others and exchange

:07:46. > :07:49.the baton, some people are not capable of doing that,

:07:50. > :07:52.and coaches will decide to leave And there is Usain Bolt,

:07:53. > :07:56.part of the Jamaican 4x100 team, he will bring

:07:57. > :07:59.the baton home for them. Andre De Grasse,

:08:00. > :08:16.the gold-medallist... I'm Christophe Lemaitre who was

:08:17. > :08:19.3000th of a second faster than Adam Gemili.

:08:20. > :08:21.Joy for the Frenchman, when he found out and looked up

:08:22. > :08:24.at the screen and saw that he was just...

:08:25. > :08:26.You cannot even begin to imagine what that feels like,

:08:27. > :08:31.I am sure he will pick himself up and be in that relay squad tonight.

:08:32. > :08:35.Usain Bolt, he gets used to this, walking out to a medal ceremony.

:08:36. > :08:37.Athletes don't always compete on the same night

:08:38. > :08:46.Sometimes you do, they make the schedule for the running events

:08:47. > :08:49.first, and then they figure out where we're going to plug

:08:50. > :08:52.in another medal ceremony, so that they maximise people

:08:53. > :08:56.like Usain Bolt, who get here early, so you can see him,

:08:57. > :09:00.they are so strategic in how they do that.

:09:01. > :09:13.One thing that he might have looked at this is having to be there way

:09:14. > :09:15.earlier than he wants to because he has to go

:09:16. > :09:24.He is here at the track to run in the relay anyway,

:09:25. > :09:31.If he has some time on his hands he can come up

:09:32. > :09:46.Steve Cram, he has his serious head although there is the 4x400 as well.

:09:47. > :09:55.Steve Cram, he has his serious head on tonight? I reckon we will see a

:09:56. > :09:57.smile soon. He seems to be absorbing

:09:58. > :09:59.it, doesn't he? The last time that we're told

:10:00. > :10:02.he will contest the 200 metres Sir Philip Craven presenting

:10:03. > :10:07.the medal, he will be getting himself and all of his team ready

:10:08. > :10:11.for the Paralympic Games to follow Lemaitre, I am sure there are a lot

:10:12. > :10:19.of European sprint fans who will be quite pleased on the

:10:20. > :10:22.form of Lemaitre. A nice man, returning to form just

:10:23. > :10:31.at the right time. When Usain Bolt does leave

:10:32. > :10:35.the stage, this is one of the contenders to take over

:10:36. > :10:42.at this distance, Andre DeGrasse, showed in the semifinals perhaps

:10:43. > :10:45.what real potential he has, not so much in the final,

:10:46. > :10:48.just outside 20 seconds. A silver medal was probably

:10:49. > :10:55.the thing he was aiming for, he talked about giving Usain Bolt

:10:56. > :10:59.a run for his money The Canadian 21-year-old performing

:11:00. > :11:08.very well indeed. He has won bronze medal

:11:09. > :11:10.so far in the 100 as well, So, the eighth time,

:11:11. > :11:23.Mr Usain Bolt steps onto the top Gold in the 200 metres

:11:24. > :11:45.for the third time. Huge, huge reception to him

:11:46. > :11:50.here at the stadium, it's not full here tonight,

:11:51. > :11:51.but they're witnessing I am just wondering whether there

:11:52. > :12:02.is a little whimsical look on the face of Usain Bolt,

:12:03. > :12:06.we have never seen him too emotional on the rostrum,

:12:07. > :12:09.but I just wonder whether tonight Our sport is about gold medals

:12:10. > :13:20.but it is also about statistics. In all of his winning 200 metre

:13:21. > :13:26.times in World Championships and Olymnpic Games,

:13:27. > :13:28.his fastest time was 19.4 zero. Last night was his

:13:29. > :13:32.slowest ever winning By the end of the night, it could be

:13:33. > :13:45.nine. Lets remember how he

:13:46. > :13:48.got to a great eight. Away they go, Usain Bolt

:13:49. > :14:03.already going past. Usain Bolt has it in his hand safely

:14:04. > :14:20.and is the bend. Bolt is out of the

:14:21. > :14:55.blocks really well. He is already storming

:14:56. > :14:58.around the bend. Gatlin it at the moment

:14:59. > :15:30.but here is Usain Bolt As he has been

:15:31. > :15:40.throughout his career. Usain Bolt running away

:15:41. > :15:48.from everybody! It will be so weird to see Tokyo

:15:49. > :16:13.2020 and see a different name. I have kids and they think

:16:14. > :16:16.that he is the only one They don't know that there are other

:16:17. > :16:34.people capable of taking gold. He makes more people want to watch

:16:35. > :16:41.this sport. He has galvanised people around the world just solely to

:16:42. > :16:46.watch him. He is charismatic, electrifying the woks... Watch, and

:16:47. > :16:48.very quick. He said afterwards that he didn't

:16:49. > :16:52.feel as good down the home stretch. It didn't look as good but it was

:16:53. > :16:55.enough to get the job done. It was all that Usain Bolt

:16:56. > :16:58.would have been worried about. He wanted to get around the bend and

:16:59. > :17:04.put pressure on LaShawn Merritt. He probably didn't expect that there

:17:05. > :17:08.would be another competitor. The grass was in lane four. -- and

:17:09. > :17:14.raided grass. He just wanted to put

:17:15. > :17:29.pressure on these guys -- at this point thought he was

:17:30. > :17:40.labelling and starting to struggle earlier than he usually years. --

:17:41. > :17:41.labouring. But if you look at the other guys, they are struggling,

:17:42. > :17:43.too. A great night for Usain Bolt

:17:44. > :17:46.to win his third title as an Olympic I know that is something

:17:47. > :17:53.he certainly wanted. Do you think his start, that was so

:17:54. > :17:56.electric, as he pushed that bend, did that have a massive effect on

:17:57. > :18:00.the performance of LaShawn Merritt? You are not really affected

:18:01. > :18:11.by anyone else's start. Even in the 200m, LaShawn Merritt

:18:12. > :18:14.knew that. We talk about Usain Bolt not getting a great start.

:18:15. > :18:23.The drive pace in 200 metres is more important than the start.

:18:24. > :18:26.You can get a fantastic reaction to the gun but if you can't

:18:27. > :18:28.transition back into a drive pace, to propel you forward,

:18:29. > :18:31.when you are at the vertical lean, it doesn't matter.

:18:32. > :18:34.We are obsessed with the reaction time but if you can't

:18:35. > :18:36.transfer that into power, it doesn't happen.

:18:37. > :18:38.Usain Bolt is very good at transferring that power

:18:39. > :18:46.back into the track, propelling himself forward.

:18:47. > :18:49.If we look at the rest of the race, which was actually quite tight,

:18:50. > :18:55.you take Usain Bolt out, had the race being run

:18:56. > :18:57.without Usain Bolt, it would have panned out differently?

:18:58. > :19:00.Is there a feeling that he is there so there is a second

:19:01. > :19:07.I think the race would have panned out the same way, but what is lost

:19:08. > :19:10.is that because Usain Bolt is so amazing and he won the race,

:19:11. > :19:13.what was lost, not on me, I was always anticipating this

:19:14. > :19:16.was going to be a fantastic race behind Usain Bolt, and it was.

:19:17. > :19:24.Adam Jamelia losing out on a medal by less than 100th of a second,

:19:25. > :19:26.thousands it came down to. It was a fantastic race

:19:27. > :19:28.to see, those guys knew Athletes know what they have

:19:29. > :19:33.in store going into the final based on what happened

:19:34. > :19:35.in the second final. I believe that almost all of them

:19:36. > :19:45.took Usain Bolt out of the race. That's why LaShawn Merritt wasn't

:19:46. > :19:47.concerned or affected by the start, because they knew that the

:19:48. > :19:51.competition was going to be silver or bronze.

:19:52. > :20:05.With the race have panned out differently? It would have panned

:20:06. > :20:12.out the same way, but he would have been in bronze position. He ran this

:20:13. > :20:14.race well. It was perfect execution. This is the point he

:20:15. > :20:18.wasn't pleased with. The more I look at Adam,

:20:19. > :20:27.he runs a little bit tight in his upper body,

:20:28. > :20:32.and that is something He hunches over with his shoulders,

:20:33. > :20:37.he is always that way. That is not the best technique

:20:38. > :20:41.when it comes to the end of the 200 metres, so he is going to have

:20:42. > :20:44.to work on that in terms of changing his technique

:20:45. > :20:46.in the upper body and the way that he runs, the way

:20:47. > :20:48.that he strides. That is just the way he runs,

:20:49. > :20:53.but it has a negative effect Does it affect the 200 more

:20:54. > :20:56.than the 100? By the time it affects

:20:57. > :21:03.you in the 100, the race is over. The 200, you are starting

:21:04. > :21:08.to fatigue, and the more You need to swing to go faster

:21:09. > :21:17.and you get more power but when you are restricted,

:21:18. > :21:19.you are hunched over, You aren't able to keep their stride

:21:20. > :21:27.lean as much as you want. And keep it as close to as it was in

:21:28. > :21:32.the early stage of the race. It shortened more because of

:21:33. > :21:47.fatigue and you are not I hope I can answer it! I hope so

:21:48. > :21:48.too, but I hope it will be the right answer!

:21:49. > :21:51.Adam is going to be doing the last leg so that

:21:52. > :21:53.tightness you mentioned, do you think that will have

:21:54. > :21:56.an effect because there is so much tension around him?

:21:57. > :21:58.100 metres, it won't really bother him.

:21:59. > :22:00.It's almost like a double-edged sword.

:22:01. > :22:08.Over the 100 metres, it helps him because

:22:09. > :22:13.Once you get beyond 100 metres, it starts to become a problem.

:22:14. > :22:22.I don't think it will will bother him.

:22:23. > :22:35.Here is another questio,n and you can all answer this.

:22:36. > :22:38.Are we going to see those seven plus another one in seven or are

:22:39. > :22:41.we going to see a whole new rash of sprinters coming through?

:22:42. > :22:45.It is important we start opening our minds about who is going

:22:46. > :23:06.It's going to be difficult, but the future of sprinting will go on.

:23:07. > :23:14.time that divided up the next lot shows it is going to be narrow.

:23:15. > :23:15.That is the likely scenario going forward.

:23:16. > :23:17.I see the championships trading in and out.

:23:18. > :23:21.Somebody will win, maybe De Grasse, maybe someone else.

:23:22. > :23:39.I don't see him dominating over the next four years title. -- cycle. I

:23:40. > :23:43.think it will be back and forth. It might be a different person.

:23:44. > :23:45.De Grasse has the edge because he is winning back-to-back

:23:46. > :23:52.championship medals and metal experience has got to play hugely

:23:53. > :23:54.when it goes into major championships, and he is

:23:55. > :24:08.He is still young, but his medals or all different. It is not always gold

:24:09. > :24:16.also over. -- gold or sulphur. Remember, he won his fastest time

:24:17. > :24:28.last year. Why would he retire

:24:29. > :24:37.when he is looking at this If you are the world champion

:24:38. > :24:45.silver-medallist last year, you are the Olympics were medallist

:24:46. > :24:48.this year and only silver because of one person

:24:49. > :25:08.who is Usain Bolt, why not continue? In a year, we will be in London for

:25:09. > :25:11.the World Cup but ex-champions. -- the World Athletics Championships.

:25:12. > :25:17.We are going to be talked through the four x 400 metre relay.

:25:18. > :25:23.On this penultimate evening, we only have the marathon on.

:25:24. > :25:30.Our penultimate evening in the stadium. And the relay heats.

:25:31. > :25:32.Let's hope we negotiate through no problem.

:25:33. > :25:48.Arguably the most controversial event of these games.

:25:49. > :25:56.The Russian has been banned, the world record holder.

:25:57. > :26:04.That is exactly how she wanted to start.

:26:05. > :26:11.She looked good in warm up, watching how closely this afternoon.

:26:12. > :26:15.She is a great major championship competitor.

:26:16. > :26:21.It is an Olympic final medal on offer.

:26:22. > :26:33.Down to the other end, the women are just about to start.

:26:34. > :26:35.We have Australia, USA, Romania, Netherlands,

:26:36. > :26:46.First three from the two heats and the two fastest losers

:26:47. > :27:09.They are the top eight from Beijing last year.

:27:10. > :27:16.The best of 16 in the world theoretically here.

:27:17. > :27:25.If you have never watched a four x 400 before,

:27:26. > :27:27.That's why there is a bigger stagger.

:27:28. > :27:33.It is not until the second leg that they break for the inside.

:27:34. > :27:40.United States, a team without Allyson Felix, Natasha Hastings,

:27:41. > :27:44.maybe Alec Spencer to come in. Courtney has got off well.

:27:45. > :27:46.Ukraine looking strong as well in lane eight.

:27:47. > :27:50.It is good to see a initially with the long, long stagger,

:27:51. > :27:59.A good start by Ukraine and so to by the Netherlands.

:28:00. > :28:11.The USA route in front. Alice Watson missed out on the US trials, in

:28:12. > :28:14.fourth. A good, strong start of the second leg for Australia.

:28:15. > :28:22.A big lead for United States at the moment.

:28:23. > :28:24.Not a good start for the French team, who we thought

:28:25. > :28:33.Fading in the dark blue, a long way back at the moment.

:28:34. > :28:40.United States in the lead, going well.

:28:41. > :28:45.Just wanting to make sure they get that baton safely now.

:28:46. > :28:50.The Polish quartet has a good chance as well.

:28:51. > :28:53.They have three semifinalists from the individual 100m.

:28:54. > :28:58.They have their weaker runner with the baton at the moment.

:28:59. > :29:05.United States well out in front. Francine McIlroy was just outside

:29:06. > :29:12.qualifying for the US this and US trials. She has a long read at the

:29:13. > :29:19.moment. What a race developing behind her for the other automatic

:29:20. > :29:24.qualifying places. Trying desperately to get close to that

:29:25. > :29:32.group of four. It is Ukraine, Poland, Australia and the

:29:33. > :29:35.Netherlands. Last change. Phyllis Francis, plenty of experience, no

:29:36. > :29:41.problem for the United States. They are clear, they will be going

:29:42. > :29:47.through. Stepping on the curb as she hands over, a real scrap on here.

:29:48. > :29:49.And and third. France desperately trying to get close. This would be a

:29:50. > :30:14.bit of a surprise. Moving into fifth place. United

:30:15. > :30:17.States. Ukraine are clear in second. Poland and Australia, she has made

:30:18. > :30:25.up so much ground. She has got nothing left. United States going to

:30:26. > :30:38.win this. Ukraine and then it is going to be Poland taking the third

:30:39. > :30:44.spot. Australia, then France. Only a 3:26.27 clocking four fronts. They

:30:45. > :30:53.had a terrible start, be back loaded their team with two big names. It is

:30:54. > :30:57.a risk you take in the rounds. The United States, we think through

:30:58. > :31:12.safely. We just want to have a look at the first change.

:31:13. > :31:22.If you start wondering over there, you think, why isn't anybody else

:31:23. > :31:34.doing this. It was a handicapped start. Very disappointed by France.

:31:35. > :31:39.Trying to bring them back into it. The Polish quartet were very strong

:31:40. > :31:44.as well. The United States, we know they are clear favourites, but the

:31:45. > :31:50.Jamaicans will give them a much better run for the money than anyone

:31:51. > :31:56.here. But France, this was their strongest quartet, they took silver

:31:57. > :31:59.at the European Championships. If you are back loading, you are never

:32:00. > :32:07.in position so it will be difficult to lift yourselves. It shows you,

:32:08. > :32:13.everything is lifted here. Poland are in, they didn't get a sniff at

:32:14. > :32:19.the European Championships. Australia and France have to watch

:32:20. > :32:28.this second semifinal. America's Sandy Morris hoping to match what we

:32:29. > :32:41.saw Holly Bradshaw doing. The world leader. Jump of 4.90 three. Perfect

:32:42. > :32:50.conditions, 27 degrees and fairly stale in the Olympic Stadium. Good

:32:51. > :32:59.clearance therefore Sandy Morris. The world record-holder announced

:33:00. > :33:11.her retirement in the last 24 hours. Sandi Morris, good start. The Cuban,

:33:12. > :33:19.the world champion from last year. Short approach, but an easy

:33:20. > :33:25.clearance. Silva, looking good. It is going to be a tight competition

:33:26. > :33:32.that we have a Brit involved in Holly Bradshaw, looking good. Silva,

:33:33. > :33:37.very good when it matters. That is going to be something she may need

:33:38. > :33:47.to draw on, as the event involves over the next hour or so. Silva,

:33:48. > :33:54.good start. STUDIO: We are well underway on the

:33:55. > :33:58.track with the relays starting. Britain's women coming up in the

:33:59. > :34:21.next feed. The men's hammer final is underway shortly. The women's 5,000m

:34:22. > :34:26.goes out 1:40 a.m.. Then it is 4x100 further women. We will carefully

:34:27. > :34:36.help navigate your evening. Then it is the men's 4x100. A possible ninth

:34:37. > :34:41.gold for Usain Bolt. Let's get down the track, you can see Emily Diamond

:34:42. > :34:49.and it is the start of the next heat. Andrew Cotter. Let's look at

:34:50. > :35:37.the runners and riders. Away they go. Emily Diamond, leading

:35:38. > :35:42.of Great Britain. Emily Diamond, who has been running well after a

:35:43. > :35:51.hamstring injury ruined 2015. She is running very strongly. Christine Day

:35:52. > :35:56.taking Jamaica out. They are the world champions. Perhaps I was

:35:57. > :36:05.premature in saying no one could touch the United States. A good run

:36:06. > :36:11.at the moment from the Canadians in lane eight. Canada, Jamaica and

:36:12. > :36:17.Great Britain all in a good position. I think there are four

:36:18. > :36:46.teams in chance. This is a good opportunity. They are

:36:47. > :36:51.chasing Jamaica, in a good position. Canada is strong and the Bahamas are

:36:52. > :36:59.starting to come. The Germans are going well. Italy will still be a

:37:00. > :37:08.danger. Kelly Massey next ago. In her first Olympic Games. Looks like

:37:09. > :37:14.a good leg. Kelly Massey, the sale Harrier, keeping the Canadian behind

:37:15. > :37:18.her at the moment. Not too far behind the Jamaican, so not too

:37:19. > :37:24.distant that you cannot work of them. But certainly for Canada, just

:37:25. > :37:29.beginning to move past Kelly Massey. No need to panic in the relay. You

:37:30. > :37:40.cannot be spooked and put in too quick spurt. Kelly Massey run of

:37:41. > :37:45.51.4 leg in Amsterdam. That is why she is in the team. But she didn't

:37:46. > :37:51.run in the final. Kelly Massey has got some clear air, not only to

:37:52. > :37:56.third, that is very important, but a long way back, the Italians coming

:37:57. > :38:06.into it. Written in a qualifying place, Christine has the button. --

:38:07. > :38:17.baton. Christine Ohuruogu is able to fix her stir on Jamaica. Williams

:38:18. > :38:23.Mills, great relay runner. It is a good run by Canada. Sage Watson is

:38:24. > :38:28.behind Christine Ohuruogu, but she likes to finish so strongly,

:38:29. > :38:33.Christine Ohuruogu. Italy are well placed. She won't panic, but she is

:38:34. > :38:37.working very hard, Christine Ohuruogu. Only three to go through

:38:38. > :38:44.automatically. Christine Ohuruogu will have enough to respond and hold

:38:45. > :38:48.of Watson. Jamaica well in front, but Christine Ohuruogu bringing

:38:49. > :38:53.Great Britain threw in second place and then Italy. France where in the

:38:54. > :39:01.fastest losers position. I think they might be gone. But Christine

:39:02. > :39:08.Ohuruogu has brought Great Britain and Northern Ireland home. They are

:39:09. > :39:13.safely through to the final. The team there, job done. A long way

:39:14. > :39:17.behind Jamaica, as the others were behind the United States in the

:39:18. > :39:23.first heat of, but a tidy enough run. That will mean France are out

:39:24. > :39:33.because the Italians ran a great leg. A good first leg for Emily

:39:34. > :39:41.Diamond, but a cracking leg for any Colonel Russ. Kelly Massey, 51.3,

:39:42. > :39:50.sort of job she did in Amsterdam. Scrap the change for the Canadians.

:39:51. > :39:52.Sage Watson was hampered. You could see it on that shot, but the

:39:53. > :39:55.Canadians were really hampered. Grenot was miles back,

:39:56. > :39:59.that is a season is best for the Quartet, but I think

:40:00. > :40:02.they will have to find a little bit more if they are going to get

:40:03. > :40:07.amongst the medals here. Christine Ohuruogu brings them home,

:40:08. > :40:11.Great Britain were the fourth fastest qualifying time

:40:12. > :40:15.overall in that heat, taking second behind Jamaica,

:40:16. > :40:18.with Canada going through, Italy Holly Bradshaw, that was

:40:19. > :40:29.so close to staying on. She looked as though she got over

:40:30. > :40:32.that, I would like to see It is a first-time failure

:40:33. > :40:42.for Bradshaw at this new height. We have just seen the Greek athlete

:40:43. > :40:46.to clear, have a look at this, she gives it the rattle

:40:47. > :40:51.and is dislodged. Unfortunately for Bradshaw,

:40:52. > :41:15.two more attempts to stay involved Two main things to note. The Bahamas

:41:16. > :41:17.are not on there. No Shaunae Miller, she was not put on the team and they

:41:18. > :41:21.did not make it through without her. they may have been, France

:41:22. > :41:23.and there either. Not through is a fastest loser,

:41:24. > :41:26.that goes to Italy and Australia, so the United States and the maker,

:41:27. > :41:28.-- and Jamaica. They are through, Great Britain,

:41:29. > :41:32.that is the important thing. They will be in a scrap for the

:41:33. > :41:38.bronze medal. greats in athletics,

:41:39. > :41:44.Ashton Eaton, the decathlete, clinch his second gold

:41:45. > :41:47.medal in the decathlon, matching defeat of

:41:48. > :41:48.Daley Thompson in 1984. This is the climax of

:41:49. > :41:52.the 1500 metres. He is stretching away again,

:41:53. > :42:35.trying to muster some He is making Ashton

:42:36. > :42:38.Eaton work hard here. No records here today,

:42:39. > :42:42.just making sure of the gold medal. We are going to see a sprint finish

:42:43. > :42:45.and the three medallists already trying to move towards winning

:42:46. > :42:47.this 1500 perhaps moving Ashton Eaton going around

:42:48. > :42:59.the bend, Warner with him. These are our three medallists

:43:00. > :43:04.in what has been a very, Meyer heading for something very

:43:05. > :43:10.special, as we said already. Ashton Eaton, the greatest there has

:43:11. > :43:14.ever been, the greatest He is great for the decathlon, great

:43:15. > :43:25.for our sport. He has won the Olympic champion -

:43:26. > :43:32.Ashton Eaton the gold-medallist. That was a joy to watch, because it

:43:33. > :43:35.got competitive in the end. A great champion, he doesn't

:43:36. > :43:44.get enough credit. Promoting him as the world's

:43:45. > :43:52.greatest athlete. He is happy to work his craft

:43:53. > :43:56.in the background, he is a really great student of athletics

:43:57. > :43:57.and the decathlon. He worked alongside his coach

:43:58. > :44:00.on all of the technical That is what makes him a great

:44:01. > :44:10.champion. Interesting that you say

:44:11. > :44:18.he's a big star at home. Athletics struggles to get the big

:44:19. > :44:21.stars against traditional American sports. Would people know who he is?

:44:22. > :44:31.Let's slowdown on little bit! I should have said, relatively

:44:32. > :44:33.speaking he is a big star at home. Obviously he will not compete with

:44:34. > :44:41.the NBA players and the NFL players. Whatever happens in the Olympic

:44:42. > :44:44.cycle, advertisers start to pick who the advertisers are

:44:45. > :44:47.that they want to represent them. He is one of the big stars

:44:48. > :44:54.of the entire Olympic team. Not just track and field. He

:44:55. > :45:02.emulated what Daly did. Is it possible to

:45:03. > :45:12.compare he and Daley? Daly would say he is better than

:45:13. > :45:17.Ashton! It is an unfair comparison, it is a different era. These guys

:45:18. > :45:18.are professional, they have got more opportunities in this current era.

:45:19. > :45:21.Ashton is just a fantastic athlete, it's a different era.

:45:22. > :45:23.It's a shame he doesn't quite get the recognition he deserves.

:45:24. > :45:27.Maybe he would choose to do a few more events on the circuit,

:45:28. > :45:35.I want to give a quick nod to Kevin Mayer, the Frenchman

:45:36. > :45:47.I think it was fantastic. New national record, brilliant silver

:45:48. > :45:51.medal. As the next few years go on, hopefully that event will grow. When

:45:52. > :45:56.Daly was competing, it was a huge, but event, the decathlon. -- huge

:45:57. > :45:57.event. Over the last few years,

:45:58. > :46:00.it has waned with the likes For the UK, we haven't had anybody

:46:01. > :46:08.for the last few years who've been Ashley Bryant would

:46:09. > :46:15.have qualified here. He had an unfortunate

:46:16. > :46:19.mishap in his pole vault. He didn't turn up in one of his last

:46:20. > :46:22.competitions. It is difficult to compete

:46:23. > :46:24.without your proper pole. He was chasing the qualification

:46:25. > :46:29.and didn't make it. Congratulations on a wonderful

:46:30. > :46:33.performance. The only man after our own

:46:34. > :46:36.Daley Thompson to retain One day I am going to have

:46:37. > :46:49.to say to Daley Thompson. See him face-to-face, shake his

:46:50. > :46:52.hand, and say... Thanks for giving me something

:46:53. > :46:58.to chase, I will say. What was the one defining moment of

:46:59. > :47:04.the two days for you. I think I had a lot

:47:05. > :47:06.of defining moments. Right from the shotput,

:47:07. > :47:09.I was getting after it, the discus, For me, my modus operandi

:47:10. > :47:14.is running, I don't Today you think of three in a row?

:47:15. > :47:30.-- day you think. Ask Daley Thompson

:47:31. > :47:38.if you think I should. I'm sure he would say yes. We have

:47:39. > :47:40.the World Championships in London next year, it would be great to see

:47:41. > :47:41.you. To my fans, you're the reason

:47:42. > :47:48.I do this, thank you. I am sure that Daly will have an

:47:49. > :47:51.opinion. But to remind ourselves

:47:52. > :47:57.how great you were. COMMENTATOR: All eight metres

:47:58. > :48:01.for Daley Thompson, tremendous! He is very, very confident at

:48:02. > :48:26.the moment. The crowd are already applauding

:48:27. > :48:35.the greatest all-round athlete in the world,

:48:36. > :48:43.Thompson, the Olympic champion! It's a better one, it's

:48:44. > :48:46.a better one, it is a better When the going gets tough,

:48:47. > :48:57.the tough get going. It would be nice to get a new Daly,

:48:58. > :49:16.wouldn't it?! I think Ashton needs

:49:17. > :49:18.to put on that moustache. I think Daley will

:49:19. > :49:22.tell him to continue. Injuries marred his career

:49:23. > :49:25.but he was determined I was just watching Daley - Usain

:49:26. > :49:37.Bolt is the new Daley Thompson. That is what made Daley,

:49:38. > :49:39.he had a charisma and confidence Usain Bolt is the new Daley

:49:40. > :49:55.Thompson. Daley will love that! He gave

:49:56. > :49:56.permission for the new Daley Thompson.

:49:57. > :49:58.He will be running in another race a little bit later.

:49:59. > :50:02.It shows you that athletes come in all shapes and sizes.

:50:03. > :50:10.He towers over Vivian Cherry. She looks relaxed, I have to say.

:50:11. > :50:29.It is always the aim on the first leg, get the girls in a good

:50:30. > :50:30.position going into second. I found myself more nervous on the relay

:50:31. > :50:31.today. We got the job done,

:50:32. > :50:40.we qualified for tomorrow, And comedy must have been chomping

:50:41. > :50:42.at the bit to get involved in the Olympics. You did a good job. --

:50:43. > :50:44.Amer,. I was watching the rest of the girls

:50:45. > :50:47.perform and yeah, I was I finally got to step out on the

:50:48. > :51:04.Olympic Stadium, it's great. Kelly, you are in a great position,

:51:05. > :51:08.it is important to hold them maintain that qualifying position.

:51:09. > :51:12.You did it in a calm and as way. I have a lot of experience with the

:51:13. > :51:15.relay -- calm and assured way. I could feel the Canadian

:51:16. > :51:18.on my shoulder but I wanted to keep the inside of the curve

:51:19. > :51:20.and crossover in second again Christine, safely through

:51:21. > :51:23.to another final. You have been his semis

:51:24. > :51:25.with the British team, We are going to go back,

:51:26. > :51:37.rest up and come back She is looking very

:51:38. > :51:57.competent, very capable. A comfortable height

:51:58. > :51:59.for her on paper, she is Morris, a perfect start

:52:00. > :52:14.to this pole vault final. She is getting herself ready

:52:15. > :52:20.for her second attempt. We have seen Ekaterini

:52:21. > :52:40.Stefanidi clear already. McCartney of New Zealand, the

:52:41. > :52:41.youngster, 19 years of age, has gone clear.

:52:42. > :52:46.Four athletes only clear on their first event.

:52:47. > :52:48.Holly Bradshaw, second attempt at 460.

:52:49. > :53:08.She has jumped 4.65 this year. A second time clearance of 4.60. The

:53:09. > :53:15.next height, 4.7 two. -- 4.7 zero. A quick look at how they line up

:53:16. > :53:18.for the men's 4x400 relay. Lumpier, Botswana, Japan,

:53:19. > :53:20.Jamaica, United States. Botswana would have been

:53:21. > :53:43.much stronger but they United States of course are very

:53:44. > :53:44.powerful. LaShawn Merritt and the hurdles champion.

:53:45. > :54:03.The men who are fourth, fifth and sixth in the US trials in the first

:54:04. > :54:04.three legs. Such strength that they can rest others.

:54:05. > :54:06.McDonald who went well in the individual, running

:54:07. > :54:17.This very, very powerful Trinidad Tobago quartet.

:54:18. > :54:20.Solomon put in a good 300 metres so far.

:54:21. > :54:25.A good run for Botswana, but three or four contenders

:54:26. > :54:39.The junior champ who is not here would have made

:54:40. > :54:48.Sometimes you look at it and think that you know who the top four

:54:49. > :54:51.or five teams are, but this is difficult, USA have got others

:54:52. > :54:58.It will be interesting to see who they do run in the final.

:54:59. > :55:00.Jamaica perhaps have got another one or two to bring in.

:55:01. > :55:03.They think this will be the best that Botswana has got.

:55:04. > :55:09.They are going flat out. Trinidad, this looks like the best they have

:55:10. > :55:10.got. USA, Botswana, Trinidad, Jamaica.

:55:11. > :55:17.The French are trying to stay in touch.

:55:18. > :55:19.The youngster ran so well in the individual.

:55:20. > :55:22.Botswana just being held off at the moment by the United States.

:55:23. > :55:26.Botswana might start to recede a little bit and Trinidad Tobago

:55:27. > :55:50.United States, Botswana, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, these four are

:55:51. > :55:53.beginning to separate themselves. It is a a real scrap

:55:54. > :55:57.on for fifth place. Botswana might be the ones

:55:58. > :56:01.to struggle here of the top three. Poland are getting close enough to

:56:02. > :56:19.threaten on the last leg. Cittadini of fourth in the

:56:20. > :56:23.individual, just outside of the medals. Fixing himself on the back

:56:24. > :56:25.of Javon Francis for Jamaica. A little bit disappointing

:56:26. > :56:29.in the individual but These three will begin

:56:30. > :56:46.to move away now. Good run by Botswana. Botswana and

:56:47. > :56:47.Poland looking for a fastest loser position.

:56:48. > :56:54.Trinidad Tobago comfortable enough in third place.

:56:55. > :57:00.They were the three that I think we expected to go through.

:57:01. > :57:02.That was a good race, a good run, America will

:57:03. > :57:07.I wonder if they will use Clement again.

:57:08. > :57:11.That was a good race, first and foremost.

:57:12. > :57:15.You can see, the standard is listing here.

:57:16. > :57:20.We expected the USA and they have got plenty to bring in,

:57:21. > :57:30.There are one or two others they could bring in. The hurdles final,

:57:31. > :57:31.somebody like that could come into the quartet.

:57:32. > :57:36.They did enough to chase down the USA.

:57:37. > :57:39.Trinidad Tobago, their best team, so they got through their best.

:57:40. > :57:46.Botswana, even without the junior champion, they held in fourth.

:57:47. > :57:50.They held off a very strong Polish team who got under three minutes.

:57:51. > :57:53.That is the benchmark. You get under three minutes,

:57:54. > :57:55.the British team haven't got under three minutes this year,

:57:56. > :57:58.that means, that is much quicker than the Polish team ran

:57:59. > :58:00.at the Championships. Top three go through and then

:58:01. > :58:02.the two fastest losers, Britain need to be really strong

:58:03. > :58:07.in this next semi. Anybody going through the low three

:58:08. > :58:11.minutes is a very, very good run. Botswana are missing a couple

:58:12. > :58:16.of very, very talented athletes. Sometimes they have had

:58:17. > :58:22.Nigel Amos in the past. But he is not running too well, the

:58:23. > :58:23.800 metre man. Three automatic qualifiers.

:58:24. > :58:25.Jamaica, United States and Trinidad Tobago.

:58:26. > :58:41.Those times for Botswana and Poland will stand them in very good stead.

:58:42. > :59:02.Good shortcake there, perfect performance. -- shortcake.

:59:03. > :59:07.That is Lutalo Mohammed going for gold.

:59:08. > :59:13.Looking forward to that. Back to another field event underway.

:59:14. > :59:15.The men's hammer final, it is Belarus, a previously

:59:16. > :59:17.convicted drug cheat, medals taken away from him,

:59:18. > :59:32.mixed feelings, certainly from which side of the fence watching on.

:59:33. > :00:00.Yarisley Silva, this is her second attempt for

:00:01. > :00:20.Not one of the tallest pole vaulters, but very athletic,

:00:21. > :00:23.gymnastic background, Silva, got it right

:00:24. > :00:25.the second time, and that foul may count against her,

:00:26. > :00:35.Great Britain have probably drawn the easier,

:00:36. > :00:46.they should be able to get through in the top three,

:00:47. > :00:48.Nigel Lavigne will lead them, William second, Hudson-Smith,

:00:49. > :00:52.Martyn Rooney ran like, you remember what he said he ran like,

:00:53. > :01:00.let's hope he does not run like that again.

:01:01. > :01:08.Trinidad, they have been disqualified.

:01:09. > :01:14.it may be an infringement with that changeover.

:01:15. > :01:25.That would really enhance Great Britain's prospect of a medal.

:01:26. > :01:33.Botswana missing one of their better runners,

:01:34. > :01:36.Trinidad, one of the big dangers perhaps,

:01:37. > :01:47.we have seen quite a lot of them being upheld, the jury of appeal

:01:48. > :01:50.have been very active at these championships.

:01:51. > :01:52.We're not entirely sure what that is for,

:01:53. > :02:02.Great Britain just switch around the order, Nigel Lavigne.

:02:03. > :02:05.Delanno Williams has a really good run,

:02:06. > :02:18.American Republic, Bahamas, Cuba, Venezuela,

:02:19. > :02:49.Jonathan and Kevin Borlee, who have carried so much in front of them in

:02:50. > :02:51.recent times, not running as well as they have.

:02:52. > :02:59.Things look good in this heat for Great Britain.

:03:00. > :03:01.Something around the three-minute mark just to be safe,

:03:02. > :03:03.top three in and around three minutes.

:03:04. > :03:05.Now that Trinidad have been disqualified from the first heat,

:03:06. > :03:18.the fastest loser spot has shifted one.

:03:19. > :03:24.So now France are sitting in a fastest loser spot of 3.82.

:03:25. > :03:46.Nigel Lavigne, so much experience,

:03:47. > :03:49.a good man to have on the leadoff leg.

:03:50. > :03:53.He will be hoping to keep it nice and solid.

:03:54. > :04:01.No theatricals here from the British team.

:04:02. > :04:04.Always hard in lane one with this the long stagger,

:04:05. > :04:12.Alonzo Russell also having a good leg, and it might be

:04:13. > :04:21.A good run by the Brazilian runner, and Nigel Levine picking up,

:04:22. > :04:24.he will be handing over to Delanno Williams,

:04:25. > :04:28.very much part of the relay squad now in Brazil,

:04:29. > :04:37.lift Brazil to a performance above their abilities?

:04:38. > :04:52.Alonzo Russell from the Bahamas in the front.

:04:53. > :05:09.Delanno Williams just latching onto the back of Jonathan Borlee.

:05:10. > :05:18.Four teams away, a very good runner from Bahamas in the next leg.

:05:19. > :05:21.That is a good run from Delanno Williams.

:05:22. > :05:25.Just a bit of daylight between themselves and Brazil,

:05:26. > :05:27.only the top three will qualify by rights, and just give

:05:28. > :05:30.Martyn Rooney a good chance on the last leg,

:05:31. > :05:33.we know what he does on the last leg in the relay,

:05:34. > :05:35.Stephen Gardner, the hugely talented Bahamian,

:05:36. > :05:46.So much in the reserve there to give the Bahamas a lead,

:05:47. > :05:49.a good run by Dylan Borlee, the younger of the Borlee boys,

:05:50. > :05:53.and Great Britain will be in a good position going into the final leg.

:05:54. > :05:58.Just wanted to make sure he got the baton safely,

:05:59. > :06:14.Newbould of the Bahamas might come under a bit of pressure.

:06:15. > :06:28.Kevin Borlee and Martyn Rooney know each other very well.

:06:29. > :06:32.They don't need to do anything silly here.

:06:33. > :06:35.Look at this, Martyn Rooney wants to make up to a really

:06:36. > :06:37.poor run individually, he looks fantastic there,

:06:38. > :06:39.Martyn Rooney coming home for Great Britain,

:06:40. > :06:41.the time is pretty good as well, under three minutes.

:06:42. > :06:53.That means that they have put themselves in the medal zone.

:06:54. > :07:00.Set up lovely, did them proud, and we know what he can do

:07:01. > :07:10.Nigel Levine with a very good 45.7, Williams 44 flat, that

:07:11. > :07:16.is another cracking leg from him, Hudson Smith solid 45.3,

:07:17. > :07:24.and Martyn Rooney, but went through bit of a saunter in 43.8.

:07:25. > :07:27.We are talking about the relays, why can't he do that in...

:07:28. > :07:29.It is another subject, but goodness me.

:07:30. > :07:40.that is all we care about at the moment.

:07:41. > :07:44.and this has really shifted them now, they have a chance.

:07:45. > :07:48.Martyn Rooney, he has that sense of, "I need to make amends for that

:07:49. > :07:53.We saw in the European Championships when Matthew Hudson Smith

:07:54. > :07:56.was on the anchor leg, Martyn Rooney likes feeling

:07:57. > :07:59.that he is the most experienced guy in the camp, he was saying

:08:00. > :08:01.to everyone at the end, you should be proud,

:08:02. > :08:05.he is the leader of the team, and he produces performances

:08:06. > :08:11.in the relay that he does not in individuals.

:08:12. > :08:14.That time there suddenly puts this men's 4x400 metre quartet

:08:15. > :08:19.Especially with Trinidad Tobago being disqualified.

:08:20. > :08:27.He went straight to his team, that is a team event.

:08:28. > :08:35.And as a quartet, they worked so well there.

:08:36. > :08:41.That is a pretty quick time, 2:58.88,

:08:42. > :08:44.three seconds quicker than their run at the European Championships.

:08:45. > :08:48.Belgium will also be contenders, the Bahamas will go through and Cuba

:08:49. > :08:54.will go through as fastest losers, sadly not Brazil at the moment.

:08:55. > :09:01.We are getting towards the business and of this women's pole vaulting

:09:02. > :09:17.Stefanidi, first attempt, that was a really competent clearance.

:09:18. > :09:20.That has been really consistent in the Diamond League.

:09:21. > :09:38.She has knocked it off once, this new season's best,

:09:39. > :09:41.one centimetre shy of her British record.

:09:42. > :09:53.Holly Bradshaw goes clear, her coach looking on,

:09:54. > :09:56.looking rather calm, it has to be said.

:09:57. > :10:05.Only one athlete has gone clear at this height, and now it is two.

:10:06. > :10:08.One of them is a Brit, Holly Bradshaw.

:10:09. > :10:12.Seventh last year at the World Championships,

:10:13. > :10:23.At the moment, this is how the qualifiers look.

:10:24. > :10:28.It is not quite official on our screens for the second heat,

:10:29. > :10:31.as you heard, Trinidad Tobago disqualified from the first round,

:10:32. > :10:37.Jamaica, United States, Great Britain, and that time

:10:38. > :10:43.is significant, it gives them a chance.

:10:44. > :10:45.Belgium, Botswana, Poland, Bahamas and Cuba.

:10:46. > :10:47.They will contest the final tomorrow.

:10:48. > :10:50.Through to the final, you must be thrilled as a team.

:10:51. > :10:57.It is quite tough when you're in lane one, so tried my best

:10:58. > :11:01.to set up for the others, to make it easier for the final.

:11:02. > :11:03.It was quite tough running in lane one.

:11:04. > :11:07.But hey, I did my best, hopefully, and it was good

:11:08. > :11:10.enough for us to make it through to the final,

:11:11. > :11:25.And so did you, 44 seconds flat

:11:26. > :11:27.is what I heard from our statistician.

:11:28. > :11:31.A take inspiration from my captain, Martyn Rooney, it has been good.

:11:32. > :11:34.I feel good, I just have to get to recovery and stick to it.

:11:35. > :11:38.And you have had a busy time of it, you came back,

:11:39. > :11:52.I just tried to get Martyn to a position where he could attack

:11:53. > :12:02.You brought the team home so many times in style, including last year,

:12:03. > :12:06.What more can you do now in the final?

:12:07. > :12:10.I want to celebrate this first, but I am so proud of these boys,

:12:11. > :12:13.we had a tough lane draw, these guys rose to the occasion,

:12:14. > :12:21.My last interview was terrible, I will not swear in this one,

:12:22. > :12:27.sorry about that, but I just want to thank these guys

:12:28. > :12:29.and the National Lottery to bring us together,

:12:30. > :12:34.and to bring us together and train, and it is paying off.

:12:35. > :12:38.The eliminated runner, he will not make it?

:12:39. > :12:45.It is a massive loss to the team, but he is here, he is supporting us,

:12:46. > :12:52.he is guiding us, he is my captain, and without his support

:12:53. > :13:10.Wishing you all well, all the best in the final.

:13:11. > :13:16.I did say the result wasn't official.

:13:17. > :13:22.I have no idea why, India have also been disqualified.

:13:23. > :13:31.We mentioned Trinidad Tobago from the first heat.

:13:32. > :13:39.The elation that they had at the end of that race was won that

:13:40. > :13:41.which obviously they weren't realising what had happened.

:13:42. > :13:47.I am not sure if they are still there.

:13:48. > :13:50.I'm trying to see whether they are and whether they know.

:13:51. > :13:53.There is a medal ceremony going on in the stadium,

:13:54. > :13:57.so it will be a bit difficult to find out what is going on.

:13:58. > :14:37.We'll go back to the studio for the moment.

:14:38. > :14:40.The second position runner has to wait until he crosses the break

:14:41. > :14:43.line, which would be the 100 metres to the track mark.

:14:44. > :14:45.If you cross that before you get to that point,

:14:46. > :14:49.Most of the disqualifications in the 4x400 metre relay

:14:50. > :14:51.are as a result of someone protesting that you impeded them.

:14:52. > :14:53.That is too quick for that to have happened.

:14:54. > :14:56.It has to have been the judge deciding that he saw something

:14:57. > :14:59.somewhere that was an infringement, and I just can't think

:15:00. > :15:03.It is rare that in some cases, the judge will not wait for another

:15:04. > :15:06.team to protest if he sees an infringement, if he sees someone

:15:07. > :15:11.I didn't see a lot of changes in the latter part of that race

:15:12. > :15:14.in terms of position, a lot at the beginning.

:15:15. > :15:21.The other thing that could happen is if they position you here,

:15:22. > :15:35.according to where your incoming runner comes, with 100 metres to go.

:15:36. > :15:45.People have done that because, say they put me in second position,

:15:46. > :15:47.if my guy passes the guy in first, if I pushed him over

:15:48. > :15:50.because I want to be in first position, I can't do that.

:15:51. > :15:58.There are some positions, I can't do that.

:15:59. > :16:02.There are some boos there, because it has come up on the big

:16:03. > :16:04.screen that India, Trinidad Tobago and Great Britain have

:16:05. > :16:11.With a 4x400, it could be somebody impeding them that causes

:16:12. > :16:14.Let's have another look, because we surely have

:16:15. > :16:40.This would be fairly straightforward.

:16:41. > :16:43.There is no infringement there that I can see.

:16:44. > :17:08.Nothing that I can see there at that particular changeover.

:17:09. > :17:10.Again, it's not just limited to the changeovers.

:17:11. > :17:21.It could be something that happened in another area.

:17:22. > :17:50.We have been told it is the rule of where you can't start running

:17:51. > :18:00.He is in the zone when he picks it up.

:18:01. > :18:19.He took it slow for the Bahamas and then passed Great Britain.

:18:20. > :18:25.Martin had one foot outside the line.

:18:26. > :18:28.You can't start running, you have to be inside.

:18:29. > :18:33.Whether the judges decided that Martin had started running

:18:34. > :18:37.He literally had one foot outside the zone, that would

:18:38. > :18:54.Rooney can't start running, he has to be inside the line.

:18:55. > :19:03.Steve, I was looking as you are explaining that

:19:04. > :19:15.rule, and I did not see an obstruction of that rule.

:19:16. > :19:23.Maybe I don't understand that will exactly as it should be.

:19:24. > :19:25.I am just wondering if it is the position.

:19:26. > :19:42.You said they lined up according to...

:19:43. > :19:44.We weren't able to see where the incoming runners were.

:19:45. > :19:47.Was he in second place when he entered the straight?

:19:48. > :19:56.Isn't it at the 200 check, at the bend?

:19:57. > :20:02.That is the second change, and you are happy with that.

:20:03. > :20:06.Can we go back to the rule about you have to be in the position

:20:07. > :20:12.That would mean that Great Britain swapped with the Bahamas,

:20:13. > :20:14.which would also mean that the Bahamas would be disqualified.

:20:15. > :20:16.That would not be that, because they would also

:20:17. > :20:26.It's about where Martyn Rooney took off.

:20:27. > :20:45.We have seen so many rules being brokwn.

:20:46. > :20:47.We have seen so many rules being broken, people

:20:48. > :20:48.being disqualified, reinstated, what will happen?

:20:49. > :20:50.Remember when Tamsin Lewis got Natasha disqualified,

:20:51. > :20:58.Australia weren't disqualified then, she moved position.

:20:59. > :21:07.If Martyn Rooney tells the Bahamas athlete to move over,

:21:08. > :21:20.and he doesn't, they would not disqualify the Bahamas.

:21:21. > :21:23.We will hopefully be able to bring you some clear news about why

:21:24. > :21:29.Paula has joined us because obviously the women's 5000 metres

:21:30. > :21:41.McColgan, she has come from rich sporting and athletics royalty.

:21:42. > :21:57.She is getting to the bell and thinking that she has a lot left.

:21:58. > :22:13.She can use it earlier in a flat race.

:22:14. > :22:40.COMMENTATOR: We began this with an Olympic record.

:22:41. > :22:51.We had the world record from Almaz Ayana. Nicky Hamblin has received

:22:52. > :22:53.lots of plaudits and so she should for the fact that she fell with the

:22:54. > :22:55.American. D'Agostino, the two of them got

:22:56. > :22:59.up and hobbled round. Women's 5000 metre final

:23:00. > :23:19.and they are going to stand up. A lot of questions kicking around

:23:20. > :23:22.tonight, today about whether Almaz She had a lot of help in the 10,000,

:23:23. > :23:30.in the sense that the first 4000 I am not sure she is going

:23:31. > :23:35.to get that tonight. It's not hard, just walk

:23:36. > :23:41.to the line, keep your I'm not sure if it's the athletes

:23:42. > :23:46.or the officials who It was a stunning run which shocked

:23:47. > :24:19.an awful lot of people. Almaz Ayana winning the 10,000

:24:20. > :24:22.metres. They has been a lot

:24:23. > :24:24.of discussion in the environment in which we all exist these days,

:24:25. > :24:26.fingers of suspicion. But you don't race championship

:24:27. > :24:29.races that fast very often. They don't bring big 10,000s very

:24:30. > :24:32.often, and she showed her ability in such that not only had so many

:24:33. > :24:35.people are running faster than She rewrote the record book

:24:36. > :24:51.and the standards by which distance running is judged on,

:24:52. > :24:54.she can do it with 5000 metres? She certainly did rewrite the record

:24:55. > :24:57.books, but look at her style. She doesn't tend to have

:24:58. > :25:02.athletes around her. I used to be nervous,

:25:03. > :25:11.because you said it didn't But now Eilish McColgan is running

:25:12. > :25:17.around them on the outside. Eliza McCarney of New Zealand,

:25:18. > :25:33.19 years of age and making a sensational improvement this year

:25:34. > :25:39.as a first-year senior. She started her competition

:25:40. > :25:41.well in the final. We saw Bradshaw go clear

:25:42. > :25:54.at this is height. It is a good clearance

:25:55. > :26:05.in the end for McCarntey. The last athlete to attempt

:26:06. > :26:23.this height, Buchler. We have seen three athletes go

:26:24. > :26:30.clear on their first attempt only. The 5000 metres is approaching the

:26:31. > :26:56.first 1000 in about three minutes. Pretty slow, especially

:26:57. > :27:00.given what Almaz Ayana She ran 14.30 and no other woman

:27:01. > :27:09.in this field has run out That put some perspective

:27:10. > :27:19.on the actual figures. When you analyse those figures,

:27:20. > :27:24.they were staggering figures. I agree with what you said earlier,

:27:25. > :27:37.the fact that they don't run big 10,000 metres other than in in

:27:38. > :27:40.the championships do you get a pace lead like they did

:27:41. > :27:42.in that 10,000 metres? Unlike today, three minutes

:27:43. > :27:44.for the first 1000 metres says Most of them can run under 15

:27:45. > :27:48.minutes for 5000 metres. In third place is Vivian

:27:49. > :27:54.Jepkemoi Cheruiyot. There is Eilish McColgan looking

:27:55. > :27:58.relaxed on the outside. I am a bit surprised

:27:59. > :28:02.that Miyuki Uehara is But with nine laps to go, I think

:28:03. > :28:12.she will be waiting and waiting, and Vivian Jepkemoi Cheruiyot

:28:13. > :28:14.is in the right place, Almaz Ayana doesn't

:28:15. > :28:23.like athletes around her. I notice all the time that

:28:24. > :28:32.Almaz Ayana is looking at the clock, and I sense she is getting

:28:33. > :28:38.ready to make a move. So Mercy Cherono, Cheruiyot,

:28:39. > :28:56.running for the silver medal. Dibaba was a redhot favourite,

:28:57. > :29:00.and Almaz Ayana is a turn apart. The silver medal was taken then

:29:01. > :29:08.because she was so devastated by the running from Almaz Ayana,

:29:09. > :29:11.she is a committed front runner She said OK, Steve,

:29:12. > :29:16.sorry about that. But in the middle of

:29:17. > :29:23.the race, she has taken She will do it again,

:29:24. > :29:28.another 3000 metres. Just under eight laps to go

:29:29. > :29:36.in the women's 5000 metres. The 10,000 metre champion and world

:29:37. > :29:39.record holder is now striking out We have seen her do this in

:29:40. > :29:45.the World Championships last year. We saw her do it in an unbelievable

:29:46. > :29:48.style in the 10,000 There she goes down

:29:49. > :29:53.the back straight. That is an absolute real

:29:54. > :29:56.injection of pace. Three minutes for

:29:57. > :30:09.the second kilometre. Sandy And are Morris of America,

:30:10. > :30:12.third best ever after her The height is now 4.70

:30:13. > :30:18.in the Olympic final. Bradshaw did it on her first

:30:19. > :30:25.attempt, so at the moment, Bradshaw in a better position

:30:26. > :30:31.than the world leader, Morris. Great shots of that

:30:32. > :30:41.clearance by Sandy Morris. This is now all about one person,

:30:42. > :30:46.Almaz Ayana, on her own, putting in a 65 second mark,

:30:47. > :30:50.which is pretty devastating. It just shows she has dropped

:30:51. > :31:04.down all of a sudden, and then world-class runners,

:31:05. > :31:09.Cheruiyot has four world titles and three Olympic medals

:31:10. > :31:11.and is nowhere near, Eilish McColgan is

:31:12. > :31:17.in the group behind. She is working hard to get to that

:31:18. > :31:24.second group of the three Kenyans. Attenmpting to become the second

:31:25. > :31:33.Ethiopian to win the 5000 metres Almaz Ayana is pulling

:31:34. > :31:45.away at every stride. Eilish McColgan running at the back

:31:46. > :31:47.of the group and looking a bit hot,

:31:48. > :31:49.hurting a little. But she has to stick to the task

:31:50. > :31:52.and stay at the back. But there is some talent

:31:53. > :32:00.in that group as well. She didn't go from the start

:32:01. > :32:09.but she has run 65 and a 66, and at the moment

:32:10. > :32:16.nobody can live with that. She probably did not expect

:32:17. > :32:19.the world record pace in Cheruiyot, but then a slow down

:32:20. > :32:22.and she was happy to sit there. It was a question of when

:32:23. > :32:27.she would go in the third lap. We are not going

:32:28. > :32:30.to risk trying this, going this pace from this far out,

:32:31. > :32:33.because we won't do it and will have lost a chance

:32:34. > :32:42.of holding on for our medal. leading this 5000 metres

:32:43. > :32:49.by about 30 metres. We just saw the reigning

:32:50. > :32:55.Olympic champion go out. She has knocked it over three times,

:32:56. > :33:02.and the world champion goes sour. The world champion, Silva,

:33:03. > :33:15.is not one of them. We will keep an eye on that

:33:16. > :33:32.while Ayana continues to push on. Eilish McColgan is in the shape

:33:33. > :33:40.of her life and has done very well She is back in the main group

:33:41. > :33:52.that does not contain The Kenyans are in their own battle

:33:53. > :34:02.for silver and bronze. Eilish McColgan will

:34:03. > :34:09.stay in that group. She will be hoping she can get past

:34:10. > :34:19.a few at the end. If she had done from the start,

:34:20. > :34:33.what you think she is capable of? She came close in the last 5000

:34:34. > :34:44.metres in that 10,000 metre victory. Today she met the leader go

:34:45. > :34:55.and on the prescribed time with about eight laps to go,

:34:56. > :34:58.she decided it was time to get away. She doesn't like athletes

:34:59. > :35:04.around her and doesn't like athletes in front

:35:05. > :35:06.or behind her too close. She's getting a little

:35:07. > :35:08.bit nervous about that. We think Bradshaw is about ready

:35:09. > :35:15.to go in the pole vault. This could be a medal job

:35:16. > :35:27.if she goes clear. We will keep an eye

:35:28. > :35:42.on Holly Bradshaw. In the meantime,

:35:43. > :35:47.Ayana a long way ahead. She has dropped the pace a little

:35:48. > :35:53.bit at 4000 metres. Every time she comes

:35:54. > :36:11.to championship, every time since 2009,

:36:12. > :36:13.she has done it. Did that 65 and 67 lap

:36:14. > :36:15.do too much damage? They see the tiny Kenyan

:36:16. > :36:30.come racing past Ayana. In the last lap, she has closed down

:36:31. > :36:40.three or four seconds or even more. Cheruiyot, the silver-medallist

:36:41. > :36:46.in the 10,000 metres, but not a gold medal

:36:47. > :36:52.in the Olympic Games. She will come into

:36:53. > :36:56.the finishing straight. It will be one lap to go

:36:57. > :37:08.for Cheruiyot. Hamlin running

:37:09. > :37:11.through a bit of pain. You could not get a price on Ayana

:37:12. > :37:20.not winning this 5000 metres. She was the red, red, red-hot

:37:21. > :37:26.favourite to win. All of the talk was about will

:37:27. > :37:29.she break the world record? This is a mirror image

:37:30. > :37:31.of what happened in It was Ayana who took over

:37:32. > :37:37.from the prerace favourite, and now it is Cheruiyot

:37:38. > :37:41.who is looking good, looking strong. Cheruiyot has won world titles

:37:42. > :37:46.at 5000 metres and 10,000 metres. She took a couple of years out

:37:47. > :37:57.to start a family. She has come back

:37:58. > :38:00.bigger and stronger than ever. At the beginning of the season,

:38:01. > :38:02.she was being beaten by the other Kenyans,

:38:03. > :38:06.Mercy Cherono, Hellen Onsando Obiri, but now she is coming

:38:07. > :38:09.down the home straight. will become the Olympic

:38:10. > :38:18.champion of 5000 metres. and Ayana, she has to

:38:19. > :38:34.settle for the bronze Cheruiyot is one of

:38:35. > :38:44.the great runners in the cross-country,

:38:45. > :38:46.track, and look at that. Eilish McColgan, as ever,

:38:47. > :38:52.trying her hardest, trying her best. She has gone through

:38:53. > :38:53.some injury problems Went to the 5000 metres

:38:54. > :38:56.from the steeplechase. Did really well to

:38:57. > :38:59.make it to the final. She has done herself proud

:39:00. > :39:03.at the Olympic Games. One thing you never do in athletics,

:39:04. > :39:16.and I think I might have done it in a race, is say

:39:17. > :39:19.there is only one result. It does prove that the 10,000

:39:20. > :39:24.metres took a lot more out she ran a 65 second

:39:25. > :39:41.in the middle of the race. but Vivian Cheruiyot ran

:39:42. > :39:57.a 65 second on the last lap. If you have a choice

:39:58. > :40:00.when we run the fastest lap, It could not go to a better winner

:40:01. > :40:14.then Vivian Cheruiyot. And the crowd in the stadium

:40:15. > :40:25.can celebrate tonight. No one yet has gone clear

:40:26. > :40:38.of this new height of 480. McCartney, well, her first

:40:39. > :40:52.senior major championship. Steve Rippon on the left there,

:40:53. > :41:00.based in the UK for ages. and is in bronze medal

:41:01. > :41:13.position as it stands. That will go down very well indeed

:41:14. > :41:23.in Kenya. None of them have made

:41:24. > :41:28.the 5000 metre final before, they called it a national

:41:29. > :41:30.embarrassment. The women are upholding

:41:31. > :41:32.their reputation. But Vivian Cheruiyot,

:41:33. > :41:41.a new Olympic record as well, 14 26. But that was a great run.

:41:42. > :41:47.She never gave up. but kept going at a good

:41:48. > :41:54.pace, and Ayana faulted. Vivian Cheruiyot goes

:41:55. > :41:58.straight past Ayana. She accelerated as she went

:41:59. > :42:01.past, which was crucial. She had done too much

:42:02. > :42:08.and had nowhere to hide. Vivian Cheruiyot worked too hard

:42:09. > :42:09.with the group Every time she goes to a

:42:10. > :42:15.championship, she wins a medal. There is Vivian Cheruiyot,

:42:16. > :42:18.the new champion. Silver in the 10,000 metres,

:42:19. > :42:22.gold in the 5000 metres. A fantastic victory

:42:23. > :42:30.for a great athlete. Silver and gold, you can't do much

:42:31. > :42:34.better than that. That will be

:42:35. > :42:36.a very, very popular win Vivian Cheruiyot is finally

:42:37. > :42:46.an Olympic champion. She did very well to make

:42:47. > :43:13.this Olympic final. That is a significant

:43:14. > :43:21.jump for Stefanidi. There is the event leader,

:43:22. > :43:32.McCartney. Stefanidi has been

:43:33. > :43:35.the most consistent by far The Greek athlete goes

:43:36. > :43:43.into second place with that jump, Bradshaw, can she make

:43:44. > :43:54.that clearance? Oh, just slowed into that,

:43:55. > :43:58.may have changed up poles, it looks like

:43:59. > :44:00.it is not recoiling the same Look at the energy into that pole,

:44:01. > :44:09.and then getting back as she turned upside down,

:44:10. > :44:11.did not extend the upper body, was not able to get on top

:44:12. > :44:15.of that pole Sandi Morris,

:44:16. > :44:30.also her second attempt, 4.80. It was a classy jump from

:44:31. > :44:37.the American. Sandi Morris with that clearance,

:44:38. > :44:49.goes into third place. Bradshaw not clear

:44:50. > :44:52.atthis height yet. Three athletes have gone clear,

:44:53. > :44:55.so Bradshaw is going to have two improved on her last attempt,

:44:56. > :45:01.as we see Alana Boyd, one of the oldest in

:45:02. > :45:05.the competition, Good technique, that,

:45:06. > :45:30.get back and gets that recoil that I was talking about,

:45:31. > :45:35.that Bradshaw did not get. That is the difference,

:45:36. > :45:39.a second time clearance. So four athletes have gone clear

:45:40. > :45:49.of this height of 4.80. Holly Bradshaw, Scott Simpson,

:45:50. > :45:51.the coach, looking on. They'll have worked

:45:52. > :45:53.so hard for this. She is looking for his nod,

:45:54. > :45:56.quite often, the coaches call when the wind is right,

:45:57. > :45:59.there is none to speak For the third time of asking,

:46:00. > :46:08.this is to stay in the competition. It was her best

:46:09. > :46:19.attempt of the three. Bradshaw appreciative

:46:20. > :46:25.of the support. It has come up on the system that

:46:26. > :46:44.Holly Bradshaw is in fifth place, we have seen four athletes go

:46:45. > :46:47.in the past from that position, it placed her best

:46:48. > :46:49.finish in the global Huge disappointment

:46:50. > :47:19.for Holly Bradshaw. She is just taking it

:47:20. > :47:22.all in and working out that she was so close to a medal

:47:23. > :47:28.of some description there. A slight improvement

:47:29. > :47:30.on the position, from a few years ago, but obviously

:47:31. > :47:33.she will be devastated. Bitterly devastated,

:47:34. > :47:36.she has worked so hard in the last few years to get to this situation,

:47:37. > :47:40.she had a fantastic qualifying, she looked really good,

:47:41. > :47:50.and that the margin of foul, not clearing that height,

:47:51. > :47:52.seem to be gutted. Took some time out to work

:47:53. > :47:55.on her fitness, had some stress fractures in her back,

:47:56. > :47:58.was great to have her back in the sport because she had such

:47:59. > :48:01.unfinished business in this event. Scott Simpson, they lived

:48:02. > :48:12.through every moment, They live the high times

:48:13. > :48:23.and the low times. They do live through so much

:48:24. > :48:28.with you, and the stress of watching somebody compete is much greater

:48:29. > :48:31.than the stress of actually competing out there,

:48:32. > :48:33.because when you are competing in the arena, you know

:48:34. > :48:35.what you are feeling and how much you have left,

:48:36. > :48:38.and what is feeling good I think he just knew how close

:48:39. > :48:45.she was, and that she had that jump in her tonight, and she knew that

:48:46. > :48:48.as well, and you can see that in the disappointment there,

:48:49. > :48:50.because she was capable Holly Bradshaw finishes fifth

:48:51. > :48:58.at her second Olympic Games, she is still young, there is plenty

:48:59. > :49:01.of time to get things right for the World Championships

:49:02. > :49:03.in London, let's get more on the 4x400, we have

:49:04. > :49:07.not had anything more a little has happened,

:49:08. > :49:17.but the picture is beginning to get a little bit clearer that maybe

:49:18. > :49:20.it is to do with the handover between Matthew Hudson Smith

:49:21. > :49:21.and Martyn Rooney, and when you are put in position

:49:22. > :49:25.a certain point on the lap but you have to stay in a position

:49:26. > :49:27.to receive the baton. And in terms of Matthew Hudson

:49:28. > :49:30.Smith, he changed position and therefore Martyn Rooney

:49:31. > :49:32.appeared to be in the wrong position, when it actually

:49:33. > :49:43.was not his fault. Matthew Hudson Smith was no

:49:44. > :49:45.longer in first position, It would be Martyn Rooney's

:49:46. > :49:48.fault if he moved from If he did not move he

:49:49. > :49:52.was not in violation. That is what we do not know,

:49:53. > :49:55.if he moved when he But have a look at Matthew Hudson

:49:56. > :50:05.Smith's second leg. Again, we think that this,

:50:06. > :50:16.coming off, was where Once Matthew Hudson Smith,

:50:17. > :50:20.we need to see where he is at 200, he is about 150 now,

:50:21. > :50:26.here he is now in first position, if the official places

:50:27. > :50:28.Martyn Rooney in first based on where he is at 200, he would

:50:29. > :50:32.place him in the first position, because Matthew Hudson Smith

:50:33. > :50:35.was winning by that point. Now we are coming up

:50:36. > :50:38.on 100 metres to go, at this point Matthew Hudson Smith

:50:39. > :50:42.is in second place, and if they put Martyn Rooney in second position,

:50:43. > :50:45.he would need to stay there, if he then moved back that

:50:46. > :50:54.would be the violation. We don't know what happened,

:50:55. > :50:58.we can't see that. From the shot that we saw the back

:50:59. > :51:02.of all the guys ready to receive, nobody appeared to have just moved,

:51:03. > :51:05.they appeared to be very much Nobody appears to have

:51:06. > :51:08.moved, but when you... Martyn has run the last leg so many

:51:09. > :51:13.times that he would have known that once they get to the 200 metre mark

:51:14. > :51:16.you are not allowed to move. That is what I am not quite sure of,

:51:17. > :51:24.because we do this in the US in college all the time,

:51:25. > :51:27.coaches will tell you, don't move, because instinctively

:51:28. > :51:29.what you do is, "Oh my gosh, I'm first, I want to get back

:51:30. > :51:32.into first place." Instinctively you want to be

:51:33. > :51:39.on the side if your guy is... But he didn't clear

:51:40. > :51:45.because they were still there. There was a time when you used to be

:51:46. > :51:48.able to jostle for position, but they stopped that,

:51:49. > :51:51.and this is the new ruling. They have to be fixed,

:51:52. > :51:55.they have to wait, regardless of if Matthew Hudson Smith went back

:51:56. > :52:03.to sixth, at 200 metres, here he is receiving his baton,

:52:04. > :52:06.Williams was in fourth place And he has not moved to any

:52:07. > :52:10.of the higher positions. That is the perfect

:52:11. > :52:12.illustration of it. I think it is an error

:52:13. > :52:15.from the officials, but I know we do have

:52:16. > :52:18.to wait, but... All kinds of conspiracy

:52:19. > :52:22.theories are abounding, it was one of the team that

:52:23. > :52:26.will benefit from this is Brazil, their quartet would be

:52:27. > :52:28.into the final, and Twitter is awash with the kinds of conspiracy

:52:29. > :52:32.theories that this is some kind But if, as we think,

:52:33. > :52:40.it is a simple mistake, it is something that can be quite

:52:41. > :52:42.clearly sorted out, There will absolutely be an appeal

:52:43. > :52:49.by the British team, we will find out, I have not been

:52:50. > :52:53.involved in some of speculation as I have over the past 20 minutes,

:52:54. > :52:56.it is just tremendous We just need to wait

:52:57. > :53:01.and see what happens. There will be some more discussion

:53:02. > :53:04.about this, and there is combat a very different kind,

:53:05. > :53:08.potentially a golden kind, Muhammad, the bronze

:53:09. > :53:24.medallist at London 2012 It is the start that

:53:25. > :53:37.Great Britain would have wanted. Steven Lopez against

:53:38. > :53:49.Lutalo Muhammad, this is for a spot Olmpic bronze for

:53:50. > :54:16.Muhammad in London. Lutalo Muhammad in the final,

:54:17. > :54:20.he has gone further than the last He has a fantastic smile, let's hope

:54:21. > :54:41.he is smiling very shortly, it could be Great Britain's 25th

:54:42. > :54:44.gold medal, it is at that Carioca Arena, gold yesterday evening

:54:45. > :54:46.when Jade Jones struck Pressure is something that

:54:47. > :54:55.Lutalo Muhammad survives on. Against all the pressure

:54:56. > :54:58.that he faced going into those games in London on many people thought it

:54:59. > :55:01.should have been the then world number one who should

:55:02. > :55:04.have been picked, he put all of that to one side,

:55:05. > :55:06.all the abuse he got ahead of those games,

:55:07. > :55:09.he went on to win a medal Outside the top five world rankings,

:55:10. > :55:30.he has turned it on this week, at this event, the Olympic champion,

:55:31. > :55:33.an impressive win to get through to the final

:55:34. > :55:39.and he wants to carry that on. Is that somthing that has

:55:40. > :55:41.impressed you, you have been following Lutalo Muhammad

:55:42. > :55:43.since 2012, is that something that has really impressed you,

:55:44. > :55:45.the way he has bounced back? Prior to that, not many people had

:55:46. > :55:51.known a great deal about him, and from a character

:55:52. > :55:58.perspective, he was so tough, and from a character

:55:59. > :56:00.perspective, it was so tough, it was not his fault,

:56:01. > :56:02.all this controversy, of going to the Court

:56:03. > :56:06.of Arbitration for Sport, he got all that abuse,

:56:07. > :56:09.he got the bronze medal, and since then he is trying to move

:56:10. > :56:18.the sport on. He is a very confident character,

:56:19. > :56:21.he walks out into the arena, he is proud to represent

:56:22. > :56:23.Great Britain, he wants As you can hear at the moment

:56:24. > :56:29.there are various voices creeping in, to my left the Koreans

:56:30. > :56:32.are going on little crazy right now because they have just

:56:33. > :56:34.won an Olympic gold, and taekwondo hails

:56:35. > :56:37.from South Korea. A little bit earlier today

:56:38. > :56:41.they were backing the Korean fighter who beat the German in the finals,

:56:42. > :56:47.and he wants to win over The world under three,

:56:48. > :56:59.the African champion, this is a tough fight

:57:00. > :57:09.for Lutalo Muhammad. Cisse has won both of their matches,

:57:10. > :57:17.quite convincingly. This is far from straightforward,

:57:18. > :57:25.and a bit of taekwondo symmetry, Jade Jones won Great Britain's

:57:26. > :57:31.25th in London in 2012, it would be Lutalo Muhammad winning

:57:32. > :57:44.Great Britain's 25th tonight. The women are coming out

:57:45. > :57:53.for the 4x100m final. You have just missed

:57:54. > :58:06.the girls being introduced. At Beijing, the USA did

:58:07. > :58:09.a Charlie's Angels montage, which left the rest of the

:58:10. > :58:11.world standing. I don't think they

:58:12. > :58:14.could live up to that. I was just looking down

:58:15. > :58:17.and did not see much action. They have definitely improved

:58:18. > :58:24.on last year. I'm sure he would like to

:58:25. > :58:47.commentate on the routines. Germany had their hands

:58:48. > :58:50.in air, just didn't care. And the USA, we had talk of them

:58:51. > :59:10.doing Charlie's Angels, they were tremendously impressive

:59:11. > :59:11.in their choreography But it is business as usual

:59:12. > :59:21.for the United States. The United States, in here courtesy

:59:22. > :59:25.of a solitary time trial. We will talk more

:59:26. > :59:34.about that in a moment. They have the worst lane

:59:35. > :59:37.because they had to come through a time trial

:59:38. > :59:39.after initially being disqualified. There is Dina Asher-Smith,

:59:40. > :00:00.part of this polished quartet. Ran well in the heats the second

:00:01. > :00:05.fastest British time ever. So it is Philip, Henry,

:00:06. > :00:07.and Daryll Neita on the anchor leg. Perhaps a changeover from Philip

:00:08. > :00:10.to Henry was a bit side-by-side But there is Daryll Neita,

:00:11. > :00:13.who will bring Great Britain Great Britain and Northern Ireland

:00:14. > :00:17.have not won a medal and Northern Ireland have not won

:00:18. > :00:20.a medal in this event The fast and furious 4x100 to come

:00:21. > :00:24.in just a few minutes. Ekaterini Stefanidi

:00:25. > :00:27.at the bar, 4.85. Consistency told, 4.85,

:00:28. > :00:48.second clearance. Trinidad Tobago, three out of four

:00:49. > :01:13.completed in London. Asha Philip, carrying

:01:14. > :01:29.the hopes of great Britain Look out for this

:01:30. > :01:34.quartet from Germany. The fastest time in Mannheim

:01:35. > :01:37.just weeks ago. Nigeria not as strong

:01:38. > :01:40.as recent seasons. World record setters in London

:01:41. > :01:59.on their way to the gold medal. Asha Philip will lead out

:02:00. > :02:20.Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Olympic title in this event has

:02:21. > :02:23.been spread over the Bahamas, Jamaica, Russia and

:02:24. > :02:24.the United States because of the problems

:02:25. > :02:33.in qualifying. the last time

:02:34. > :02:39.it has been won from that lane. A lot of noise in the stadium

:02:40. > :02:44.as the pole vault continues, The United States in lane one.

:02:45. > :02:50.Jamaica in lane six. Great Britain just inside

:02:51. > :02:54.looking for the changeover. Great Britain and Northern Ireland

:02:55. > :03:02.in a strong position. United States looking

:03:03. > :03:09.very quick now. But the United States

:03:10. > :03:21.running for gold. And Great Britain

:03:22. > :03:40.have the bronze medal! First medal in this event

:03:41. > :03:44.since 1984. and they are number one,

:03:45. > :03:54.the United States. The celebrations for Great Britain

:03:55. > :03:56.and Northern Ireland, a new record. A new British record has taken them

:03:57. > :04:00.to that bronze medal. Realistically, you are always

:04:01. > :04:05.going to struggle to keep up with the United States and Jamaica,

:04:06. > :04:07.but that was a wonderful run. The most important thing,

:04:08. > :04:12.the real unity they showed together. They know all of the ins and outs,

:04:13. > :04:17.where they will be, how that will drive out

:04:18. > :04:20.of the start position. This will always be brilliant

:04:21. > :04:22.and crucial for them The United States did all the damage

:04:23. > :04:42.down the back straight. Felix held Thompson so well and gave

:04:43. > :04:44.a great baton changeover Look what it means to Desiree Henry.

:04:45. > :04:49.Tears streaming down her face. We will have a look

:04:50. > :04:51.at the whole race. Again, we like to look

:04:52. > :04:54.at the baton changes and see if there was anywhere else

:04:55. > :04:56.could have been improved. I'm not sure they could

:04:57. > :04:59.have been for Great Britain A national record

:05:00. > :05:01.for that bronze medal. Behind the United States

:05:02. > :05:04.and Jamaica. A bronze medal is a great

:05:05. > :05:07.achievement here. One of the best things

:05:08. > :05:09.about this, the oldest person

:05:10. > :05:11.in their team, she's 25. Apart from that, Henry,

:05:12. > :05:17.takes the baton here and runs their well

:05:18. > :05:19.against Thomson, she's just 20. She passes the baton

:05:20. > :05:24.on to Dina Asher-Smith, who is 20! She has an Olympic champion

:05:25. > :05:31.outside her. They have managed to get

:05:32. > :05:43.an Olympic bronze medal. In the inside lane, she was never

:05:44. > :05:49.going to let anyone pass. Not making any difference

:05:50. > :05:56.in that lane. Not too far from their own record

:05:57. > :06:02.they set in London. With the strength of

:06:03. > :06:23.Thompson and Price, And Great Britain

:06:24. > :06:26.holding off Germany. And you will hear from

:06:27. > :06:28.the British quartet shortly, More reaction on that historic

:06:29. > :06:37.bronze medal shortly. Let's take you

:06:38. > :06:46.straight to the taekwondo. The Olympic rings

:06:47. > :06:51.high on the rafters, but who will be

:06:52. > :06:53.highest on the podium? Lutalo Muhammad, the 25-year-old

:06:54. > :06:56.from Walthamstow in London. Started when he was

:06:57. > :07:04.three years of age. He finished third in London

:07:05. > :07:08.and is guaranteed to do better here. Standing in the way of gold,

:07:09. > :07:12.fairly on the march, In terms of head-to-heads,

:07:13. > :07:30.the man from the Ivory Coast is leading 2-0

:07:31. > :07:33.against Lutalo Muhammad. Cheick Sallah Cisse

:07:34. > :07:48.from the Ivory Coast is in red. Stephen Jennings,

:07:49. > :07:52.some final words of encouragement. A massive occasion, first time

:07:53. > :07:57.in a major final, an Olympic final. Cheick Sallah Cisse

:07:58. > :08:08.2-0 at the moment, Will it be the time

:08:09. > :08:14.for Cheick Sallah Cisse or will it be time for the man

:08:15. > :08:20.in blue, Lutalo Muhammad? The centre referee

:08:21. > :08:30.for this gold medal contest, Cisse in red, and Lutalo

:08:31. > :08:37.Muhammad puts his Two of those will see a point added

:08:38. > :08:45.to the British athlete. Cheick Sallah Cisse just

:08:46. > :08:47.checking out the distance. Slightly the taller of the two,

:08:48. > :08:54.standing up at six foot four. Millimetres can make

:08:55. > :09:01.the difference in this battle. Straightaway, great atmosphere

:09:02. > :09:04.and a good start It will be a point against,

:09:05. > :09:14.but a good and strong start there. Good strong punch

:09:15. > :09:20.from Cheick Sallah Cisse. You heard the punch,

:09:21. > :09:25.you could hear the cry as well. Lutalo Muhammad is showing great

:09:26. > :09:32.confidence and composure here. Cheick Sallah Cisse had the crowd

:09:33. > :09:36.on his side at the start. Lutalo Muhammad doing well just

:09:37. > :09:41.to subdue things here. and that punch almost

:09:42. > :09:51.proving pivotal there. Yes, engaging and a little

:09:52. > :09:56.bit tactical here. They are trying to

:09:57. > :09:58.feel each other out. They don't want to make mistakes,

:09:59. > :10:02.you can see that. Overreaching a little

:10:03. > :10:10.bit with the punch. Holding the leg on the inside,

:10:11. > :10:13.and the referee sees it. All the time going

:10:14. > :10:25.through with the punch. Not enough accuracy or force

:10:26. > :10:31.to get through that long leg of the six foot four

:10:32. > :10:34.Ivory Coast man. A headshot from Lutalo

:10:35. > :10:40.Muhammad landing over, Three points to the good

:10:41. > :10:44.with 60 seconds. and snuck upstairs

:10:45. > :11:05.for the three-point shot. The crowd are building

:11:06. > :11:16.atmosphere at the arena. In downtown Rio for

:11:17. > :11:20.the Olympic taekwondo. We reach towards the dying embers

:11:21. > :11:26.of this first round. Lutalo Muhammad,

:11:27. > :11:30.what a wonderful start for him. I wonder what the coaching

:11:31. > :11:43.staff will say to him. Stephen Jennings

:11:44. > :11:46.giving some advice there, likewise the coach

:11:47. > :11:50.from the Ivory Coast. A double kick,

:11:51. > :12:03.and one way then the other. Direction of the match

:12:04. > :12:16.could swing on that one. They have obviously studied Cheick

:12:17. > :12:19.Sallah Cisse, the British team. Likewise team Ivory Coast,

:12:20. > :12:26.this one a real battle. The under 80 kg gold medal contest,

:12:27. > :12:29.Lutalo Muhammad of Great Britain against Cheick Sallah Cisse,

:12:30. > :12:31.the taller man. Lutalo Muhammad

:12:32. > :12:38.goes straight for it. He is here to win

:12:39. > :12:42.and determined not just to defend. He has been trying to

:12:43. > :12:45.get past that front leg. That front leg of

:12:46. > :12:50.Cheick Sallah Cisse. When he springs off

:12:51. > :12:52.the back leg, sometimes, It is that open stance,

:12:53. > :13:02.a little shot their from the man Almost scoring, so plenty

:13:03. > :13:06.to think about for both men. and that'll help Lutalo Muhammad's

:13:07. > :13:18.cause no end. Huge tension,

:13:19. > :13:28.the Olympic final here. Lutalo Muhammad took

:13:29. > :13:38.a bronze medal in London, gold or silver at stake,

:13:39. > :13:41.big punch from Cisse. He has that pedigree,

:13:42. > :14:03.he has that quality. Muhammad tries a little sneaky back

:14:04. > :14:05.kick around the corner, I have seen other finals, where

:14:06. > :14:18.they just score and then hold off, they don't have to go forwards,

:14:19. > :14:22.it is not a show necessarily A bit too passive, the back kick

:14:23. > :14:39.fires through, Lutalo Muhammad now out of the traps,

:14:40. > :14:41.coming across the ring, a four-point game, both men back

:14:42. > :14:46.tied up in the middle. That just changed

:14:47. > :15:05.the game completely. Keeps grabbing the leg,

:15:06. > :15:07.had to be careful there. Very important there,

:15:08. > :15:09.to maintain discipline. Cheick Sallah Cisse is doing

:15:10. > :15:18.the best to change the tempo here. He was a head shot down, used a back

:15:19. > :15:22.kick to get back into it, both men leaning back,

:15:23. > :15:24.surveying their options. The gap between them,

:15:25. > :15:26.the measure of their ambition. Who has the courage to go forward,

:15:27. > :15:28.stick or twist, and they stick together at the end

:15:29. > :15:31.of the second round. The last round always seems

:15:32. > :15:34.to unearth something, and they are that both

:15:35. > :15:40.going to have to go for it. They will both be fighting

:15:41. > :15:42.for that Olympic title, Two minutes, indeed, to decide

:15:43. > :15:52.the destination of this gold. It is frenetic stuff,

:15:53. > :15:55.a festival of footwork and fighting, That three-point score

:15:56. > :16:08.their just right in the ribs. Cheick Sallah Cisse,

:16:09. > :16:16.some last bits of Stephen Jennings and Lutalo

:16:17. > :16:23.Muhammad, the coaches have done their work,

:16:24. > :16:26.their charges are out, this is the gold-medal contest,

:16:27. > :16:32.Lutalo Muhammad is in blue, Cheick Sallah Cisse is in red,

:16:33. > :16:36.the taller of the two. The formalities dispensed with,

:16:37. > :16:39.it is time to fight and for Cisse That is what he wants to do and then

:16:40. > :16:55.try and pick up the points. Tries to land the big punch there,

:16:56. > :16:57.Lutalo Muhammad. The tempo set by the British fighter

:16:58. > :17:14.who looks to be in top condition. He tries with a big jumping

:17:15. > :17:16.shot through there. It will come down to

:17:17. > :17:29.tenacity and desire. We have seen the skill,

:17:30. > :17:33.it is now time to check Both men had battled

:17:34. > :17:40.hard to get the year. The qualification was arduous,

:17:41. > :17:44.and the route to the final perilous. Who is going to take

:17:45. > :17:46.the big crown here? the Olympic champion will emerge

:17:47. > :17:52.from this fight. The punch again there

:17:53. > :17:55.from Lutalo Muhammad. The only noise audible

:17:56. > :17:57.above the coaches, I think it will be decided

:17:58. > :18:06.on a head shot. The footwork first, here is a shot

:18:07. > :18:21.from Lutalo Muhammad on the inside,

:18:22. > :18:24.with the... The point is invalidated,

:18:25. > :18:33.grabbing the leg on the inside. He had done it a few times,

:18:34. > :18:46.taking the leg as he comes in. That has cost him dearly

:18:47. > :18:53.there with that. Four points each, into the latter

:18:54. > :18:56.reaches of this, the business end The 80 kg groupping punch

:18:57. > :19:10.from Muhammad, not much Casting Ferrer, both

:19:11. > :19:16.men working so hard... There is a head shot

:19:17. > :19:18.from Lutalo Muhammad, he has knocked that headgear

:19:19. > :19:20.halfway down Copacabana. Will it score, it is the domain

:19:21. > :19:22.of electronic sensors, there If it hits the face,

:19:23. > :19:33.you can ask for a replay. If it hits the head guard,

:19:34. > :19:37.it is up to the technology to score. How laughable would the technology

:19:38. > :19:40.look if this does not score. That head guard was kicked

:19:41. > :19:45.like a football down the street. How far is he going

:19:46. > :19:47.to hit the head guard. The only thing there perhaps,

:19:48. > :19:56.the use of the hand on the way through, perhaps flicking up to lift

:19:57. > :19:59.it off, let's give the referees and judges a chance to look

:20:00. > :20:01.at this one, unsuccessful, looking at the video replay,

:20:02. > :20:09.the initial opinion was wrong. That is the benefit

:20:10. > :20:21.of the video replay. Now 6-4 to the man from

:20:22. > :20:27.Great Britain. Got to keep his composure,

:20:28. > :20:34.the man from the Ivory Coast, He has been strong all day,

:20:35. > :20:46.he is one second away Could this be pivotal,

:20:47. > :20:51.Lutalo Muhammad, closes down, blocks, and there is a head shot

:20:52. > :20:56.in the last second from Cheick Sallah Cisse,

:20:57. > :20:59.the man from the Ivory Coast finds the win and at the last

:21:00. > :21:06.second, what a turnaround, he fought to the finish,

:21:07. > :21:10.Cheick Sallah Cisse is your man, Cheick Sallah Cisse is the man,

:21:11. > :21:21.Lutalo Muhammad could not hang on, he fought so perfectly all day,

:21:22. > :21:24.but in the last second it is a silver medal

:21:25. > :21:33.for Great Britain's Lutalo Muhammad. We had seen everything now,

:21:34. > :21:40.Cheick Sallah Cisse, in the last second produces

:21:41. > :21:43.a gold-medal winning reverse... Absolutely the last second

:21:44. > :21:50.of that contest. He just, he just kept going forward,

:21:51. > :21:53.and it just goes to show that that Not only that, it was the last

:21:54. > :22:01.second in the end, to win the... Not only that, it was

:22:02. > :22:04.the last second in the end, to win the Olympic title,

:22:05. > :22:06.he stole it. A wonderful victory there,

:22:07. > :22:10.takes two men to fight, Lutalo Muhammad excellent

:22:11. > :22:14.all the way through, he had one hand on the gold-medal,

:22:15. > :22:17.this man has both of them. Cheick Sallah Cisse,

:22:18. > :22:20.wonderful movement and in the last second, that reverse kick

:22:21. > :22:23.which is worth four points. Cheick Sallah Cisse,

:22:24. > :22:34.Ivory Coast, wonderful win. Utterly heartbreaking,

:22:35. > :22:43.and I am sure you have seen many amazing incredible Olympic moments,

:22:44. > :22:45.but that must surely be right up there, heartbreak

:22:46. > :22:48.for Lutalo Muhammad, he had his finger on the gold-medal,

:22:49. > :22:51.and lost it, we will be hearing We are ready for the 4x100

:22:52. > :22:59.metre men's relay final, which is quite literally the final

:23:00. > :23:03.act, not just of the evening, Here they are, being

:23:04. > :23:16.introduced to the crowd. Quite a straightforward no-nonsense

:23:17. > :23:17.choreographed routine now, USA, Michael, you are not quite

:23:18. > :23:21.so happy with this. You got to do a little more

:23:22. > :23:23.than that. I was disappointed in

:23:24. > :23:29.the Jamaicans and the US. This was bitterly disappointing,

:23:30. > :23:35.it is the home crowd. It is the Brazilians,

:23:36. > :23:37.it was the home crowd, what the And here we go, they made us

:23:38. > :23:45.wait, they teased us, I think the women were definitely

:23:46. > :24:01.more choreographed. STEVE: This is it, Usain Bolt,

:24:02. > :24:10.the triple triple beckons. The end of his Olympic

:24:11. > :24:13.career, and what a career. But can somebody come

:24:14. > :24:15.and spoil the party? This has all the hallmarks

:24:16. > :24:20.of a classic 4x100 Trinidad have got a cracking team,

:24:21. > :24:26.that have got a great team, there are others

:24:27. > :24:33.who are in here as well. Including Japan, a new national

:24:34. > :24:36.record in qualification, almost half a second

:24:37. > :24:41.off your previous best. That is quicker than

:24:42. > :24:44.Great Britain have ever run. Yohan Blake, Nickel Ashmeade and

:24:45. > :25:02.Usain Bolt. What about last year

:25:03. > :25:13.when Mike Rogers and Tyson Gay messed it up, now they get

:25:14. > :25:16.to go in one and three. Great Britain have made it

:25:17. > :25:23.to the final, the only time, the only other time since 1992

:25:24. > :25:26.that we made it to the final, We are in lane one,

:25:27. > :25:36.some runners missing, Great Britain lane one,

:25:37. > :25:56.Brazil two, USA lane three, Jamaica lane four, Japan lane five,

:25:57. > :25:59.China lane six, Canada lane seven, Asafa Powell leading ,

:26:00. > :26:13.Mike Rogers the quick start, Richard Kelty going

:26:14. > :26:16.to Great Britain. Watch the changes, not such

:26:17. > :26:30.a good one for Jamaica. UK a little bit out

:26:31. > :26:32.of it at the moment. Bolt is going to get this

:26:33. > :26:35.but on level with the USA and Japan. USA in the lead, but Bolt has got

:26:36. > :26:45.it, and Usain Bolt is doing what he always does,

:26:46. > :26:47.bringing it home for Jamaica! History, history,

:26:48. > :26:57.history, history. You are not going to run

:26:58. > :27:13.Usain Bolt down at the end, but Japan beating the USA

:27:14. > :27:22.for the silver medal. Asafa Powell, he was relying

:27:23. > :27:33.on Ashmead, he was relying on Blake. They have their part to play,

:27:34. > :27:36.in delivering this script Really, they should proclaim him

:27:37. > :27:46.the eighth wonder of the world. He is, and has been,

:27:47. > :27:52.and forever will be, the greatest Olympic track and field

:27:53. > :27:57.athlete we have ever seen, and we are all privileged to have

:27:58. > :27:59.been here throughout his career, So many people in this

:28:00. > :28:13.stadium will be able to say, "I was there

:28:14. > :28:16.the day he won his ninth, What was great about that race

:28:17. > :28:27.was we had to see Usain Bolt. There was always a worry,

:28:28. > :28:38.I don't know how big a worry it was, that the other three may be given

:28:39. > :28:43.too much to do, the USA might not be as good, but in the end,

:28:44. > :28:48.he is just too good. With a supporting cast

:28:49. > :28:55.who were equally as good. This is watching the Japanese team

:28:56. > :29:01.get that silver medal. That tells you the quality of

:29:02. > :29:08.this race. There was nobody that

:29:09. > :29:26.would catch Bolt. He had to get past Japan,

:29:27. > :29:29.at once he was in that stride. Usain Bolt, we are happy you have

:29:30. > :29:36.done what you have done, and we are ultimately pleased

:29:37. > :29:42.we have witnessed the majority. Usain Bolt in full

:29:43. > :29:48.flow, baton in hand. The finishing line he has owned

:29:49. > :29:57.through his whole career. Great Britain, as Colin said,

:29:58. > :30:05.still ran under 38 seconds, and they will tell us

:30:06. > :30:08.that is a record for lane one. They are probably right.

:30:09. > :30:11.Michael, what did you make of that? Usain Bolt has done it,

:30:12. > :30:14.but this was an incredible race. Jamaica just needed to get it

:30:15. > :30:24.around to Usain Bolt. Watch the Japanese team

:30:25. > :30:26.on the outside Jamaica. They have been running well

:30:27. > :30:28.all year long. Colin said Usain Bolt might

:30:29. > :30:33.have to chase someone, we thought it might be

:30:34. > :30:35.the Americans, Usain Bolt completing

:30:36. > :30:45.the triple triple. The anchor did not run well

:30:46. > :30:55.in the 100 metre final either. Fantastic performance for him

:30:56. > :31:07.at this championship, and I'm sure he is relieved,

:31:08. > :31:09.overjoyed It is testimony to Usain Bolt

:31:10. > :31:17.that 2008, 2012, 2016, he has got himself not only in shape,

:31:18. > :31:21.because obviously he is such a great athlete, but all of the problems

:31:22. > :31:27.he may have had with injuries, especially in recent years, he has

:31:28. > :31:34.got himself to the start line. As Michael said, not even a hint

:31:35. > :31:37.of silver or bronze. Lane one was the problem

:31:38. > :31:41.of Great Britain. They didn't really

:31:42. > :31:47.do anything wrong. Just managed to get the baton

:31:48. > :31:50.to Adam at the end. But it has been a frustrating

:31:51. > :31:59.athletics for Adam Gemili. I don't think they have anything

:32:00. > :32:06.to worry about in terms of being criticised,

:32:07. > :32:09.lane one, incredible. What I like about them, they will

:32:10. > :32:14.still criticise themselves. They will still be

:32:15. > :32:16.reaching for improvement. As you say, there is

:32:17. > :32:18.no criticism from us. They did a great job getting

:32:19. > :32:21.to the final and delivering. Well, Richard, you had that

:32:22. > :32:25.terrible lane one draw that you talked about yesterday,

:32:26. > :32:28.you gave it your all. It shows the quality

:32:29. > :32:32.you are up against. We said going into this we would

:32:33. > :32:41.put every inch of effort in. We all have trust in each other,

:32:42. > :32:46.and we ran our heart out. We came up short, but we are proud

:32:47. > :32:49.of each other. There is not much more we can say,

:32:50. > :32:54.but I'm really proud of the guys, and I love every single one of them.

:32:55. > :32:59.Can't really say much more. were you confident you could

:33:00. > :33:08.still be in the mix. Yet, I think you saw we were.

:33:09. > :33:11.We gave it our all. It is disappointing because

:33:12. > :33:14.we put a lot of work into this We know each other well

:33:15. > :33:19.and are practically family. You see a lot of people

:33:20. > :33:22.put their hearts on the line. We love one another and spend

:33:23. > :33:26.a lot of time together. We went into this as a team

:33:27. > :33:29.with the other guys at the back. We came out on what you saw

:33:30. > :33:35.were four guys with a massive squad behind them putting their heart

:33:36. > :33:45.on the line. James, your take on the team

:33:46. > :33:47.ethic and squad effort It has been since the

:33:48. > :33:57.beginning of the year. We have all of the guys,

:33:58. > :34:03.CJ, OJ, Danny. Only four of us in the final,

:34:04. > :34:06.it is a blessing to be here. Ending up sixth in the Olympics,

:34:07. > :34:10.we ran such a fast time in London at the Anniversary Games

:34:11. > :34:14.and you knew we were in shape, and you can say what you like about

:34:15. > :34:18.lanes, but we showed our potential. It is disappointing

:34:19. > :34:20.and heartbreaking. We know we have

:34:21. > :34:23.the capability of winning. A sense of frustration, especially

:34:24. > :34:29.when you see teams like Japan, but springing a surprise

:34:30. > :34:37.on the Americans. It is a real shame after yesterday,

:34:38. > :34:43.coming back late to the village. I got there about half

:34:44. > :34:49.one in the morning We have such a great team spirit

:34:50. > :34:53.this year. We just feel really disappointed

:34:54. > :34:55.for the guys on the sideline and everyone at home

:34:56. > :35:00.that we could not deliver a medal. We got around, but it

:35:01. > :35:07.wasn't fast enough today. We can just give it our best

:35:08. > :35:11.and take it from there. We know you gave it your all.

:35:12. > :35:14.Thank you. They have well and truly

:35:15. > :35:28.been satisfied tonight. Gold for Jamaica and a night

:35:29. > :35:32.of Olympic gold for Usain Bolt. A lot of dancing,

:35:33. > :35:45.as you can imagine. We will be back here to hear

:35:46. > :35:47.from the Jamaicans and see a little

:35:48. > :35:49.bit more of the partying. First, we will go to Jason

:35:50. > :35:52.with the aftermath of that Lutalo Muhammad fight

:35:53. > :36:02.which ended so dramatically. and see Usain Bolt

:36:03. > :36:10.win a triple triple. Back to you shortly,

:36:11. > :36:12.but Lutalo Muhammad has been and see Usain Bolt

:36:13. > :36:17.win a triple triple. Back to you shortly,

:36:18. > :36:19.but Lutalo Muhammad has been fighting Cheick Sallah Cisse

:36:20. > :36:21.of the Ivory Coast. The formalities dispensed with,

:36:22. > :36:45.it is time to fight and for Cisse That is what he wants to do and then

:36:46. > :36:54.try and pick up the points. Tries to land the big punch there,

:36:55. > :36:58.Lutalo Muhammad. The tempo set by the British fighter

:36:59. > :37:08.who looks to be in top condition. He tries with a big jumping

:37:09. > :37:17.shot through there. It will come down to

:37:18. > :37:28.tenacity and desire. We have seen the skill,

:37:29. > :37:31.it is now time to check Both men had battled

:37:32. > :37:42.hard to get here. The qualification was arduous,

:37:43. > :37:45.and the route to the final perilous. Who is going to take

:37:46. > :37:47.the big crown here? The Olympic champion will emerge

:37:48. > :37:53.from this fight. The punch again there

:37:54. > :37:56.from Lutalo Muhammad. The only noise audible

:37:57. > :37:59.above the coaches, I think it will be decided

:38:00. > :38:05.on a head shot. The footwork first, here is a shot

:38:06. > :38:22.from Lutalo Muhammad The point is invalidated,

:38:23. > :38:33.grabbing the leg on the inside. He had done it a few times,

:38:34. > :38:45.taking the leg as he comes in. That has cost him

:38:46. > :38:51.dearly there with that. Four points each, into the latter

:38:52. > :38:57.reaches of this, the business end The 80 kg grouping,

:38:58. > :39:09.punch from Muhammad, There is a head shot

:39:10. > :39:15.from Lutalo Muhammad, he has knocked that headgear

:39:16. > :39:19.halfway down Copacabana. It is the domain

:39:20. > :39:25.of electronic sensors, there are sensors

:39:26. > :39:28.inside the head guard. If it hits the face,

:39:29. > :39:33.you can ask for a replay. If it hits the head guard,

:39:34. > :39:42.it is up to the technology to score. How laughable would the technology

:39:43. > :39:44.look if this does not score? That head guard was kicked

:39:45. > :39:48.like a football down the street. How far is he going to hit

:39:49. > :39:50.the head guard? The only thing there perhaps,

:39:51. > :39:56.the use of the hand on the way through, perhaps flicking up to lift

:39:57. > :39:59.it off, let's give the referees and judges a chance to look

:40:00. > :40:03.at this one, unsuccessful, looking at the video replay,

:40:04. > :40:10.the initial opinion was wrong. That is the benefit

:40:11. > :40:15.of the video replay. Now 6-4 to the man from

:40:16. > :40:26.Great Britain. Got to keep his composure,

:40:27. > :40:36.the man from the Ivory Coast, He has been strong all day,

:40:37. > :40:43.he is one second away here, Lutalo Muhammad, closes down,

:40:44. > :40:55.blocks, and there is a head shot in the last second

:40:56. > :40:57.from Cheick Sallah Cisse, the man from the Ivory Coast finds

:40:58. > :41:00.the win and at the last second, what a turnaround,

:41:01. > :41:06.he fought to the finish, Cheick Sallah Cisse is your man,

:41:07. > :41:13.Cheick Sallah Cisse is the man, he fought so perfectly all day,

:41:14. > :41:19.but in the last second it is a silver medal

:41:20. > :41:44.for Great Britain's Lutalo Muhammad. I can't imagine what you are

:41:45. > :41:46.going through right now. I was one second away from being

:41:47. > :41:51.Olympic champion and my dream. I don't want to cry on TV,

:41:52. > :41:54.but I'm so distraught. I'm so sorry for the people

:41:55. > :41:56.who stayed up late Do you take any consolation this

:41:57. > :42:16.is still Great Britain's best ever I was so close to being

:42:17. > :42:34.the Olympic champion. It is hard to put into words

:42:35. > :42:47.how disappointed I am. How proud I am I contributed

:42:48. > :42:50.to Great Britain's record tally, but it should have

:42:51. > :42:52.been a gold medal. I will still do a lap for the crowd,

:42:53. > :43:00.as they have supported me so much. But I'm absolutely gutted

:43:01. > :43:05.to blow it like that. That is what makes playing

:43:06. > :43:12.sports so interesting. I am so distraught to be

:43:13. > :43:15.on the losing end here. But I persevered and I got here

:43:16. > :43:32.and made it to the Olympic final. I'm so grateful to God

:43:33. > :43:35.that he allowed me to be here. I'm sorry

:43:36. > :43:49.I could not convert it to gold. Enjoy the podium.

:43:50. > :43:59.We will speak to you later. We love sport, but sometimes

:44:00. > :44:04.it can be so cruel sometimes. Muhammad with one of the bravest

:44:05. > :44:09.interviews I have ever seen That was recorded a short time ago

:44:10. > :44:18.straight after he lost with the final kick of his bout

:44:19. > :44:21.in the final seconds. Many people on social media

:44:22. > :44:25.are asking, why did Muhammad engage? And Lutalo Muhammad won bronze

:44:26. > :44:41.at 2012 and has been hampered He has come back fighting and being

:44:42. > :44:51.absolutely brilliant tonight. He was one second away from becoming

:44:52. > :44:54.the Olympic champion. However, it is Cheick Sallah Cisse

:44:55. > :44:56.of the Ivory Coast who has Cheick Sallah Cisse

:44:57. > :45:20.is the taekwondo champion in the 80 kg category,

:45:21. > :45:23.winning it in absolutely And Lutalo Muhammad,

:45:24. > :45:29.I don't think I have ever seen an emotional interview like that

:45:30. > :45:35.ever broadcast on television. But well done to

:45:36. > :45:38.Cheick Sallah Cisse. I don't know if you heard that

:45:39. > :45:43.interview with Lutalo, Gaby. He was a second away,

:45:44. > :45:48.Gaby, from winning And all of us here just felt

:45:49. > :45:57.the deepest sympathy for him and the rawest of emotions

:45:58. > :46:00.that came pouring out from him. And there will be raw

:46:01. > :46:03.emotions here now. The US quartet are around,

:46:04. > :46:10.taking the adulation of the crowd with the flags on their shoulder,

:46:11. > :46:14.but they don't know the news that's No, they don't and they're probably

:46:15. > :46:19.the only people in the stadium that don't know they've

:46:20. > :46:22.been disqualified. They've just got to the end

:46:23. > :46:25.of their lap of honour. It's been up on the big screen -

:46:26. > :46:29.a changeover violation. So Trinidad and the United States

:46:30. > :46:32.both disqualified. We're not quite sure

:46:33. > :46:36.which changeover it was. We're just going to have a little

:46:37. > :46:39.look around here. So USA are in lane

:46:40. > :46:41.three inside Jamaica. He's going to pass

:46:42. > :46:47.the baton to Justin Gatlin. Now what you're looking

:46:48. > :46:49.for are the green flashes I was even looking at

:46:50. > :47:09.Rodgers' feet to make sure You only need to put one foot

:47:10. > :47:14.on the line and it's So Gatlin is then going to hand over

:47:15. > :47:26.the baton to Tyson Gay. Remember it was Tyson Gay

:47:27. > :47:30.who was involved last year in the World Championships

:47:31. > :47:32.when he handed to Mike Rodgers. So then it's the last change,

:47:33. > :47:43.and this is the one where they looked to be having

:47:44. > :47:46.problems, didn't they? This is why Trayvon Bromell has gone

:47:47. > :48:04.a little early. I'm struggling to find out exactly

:48:05. > :48:06.where the changeover You know, the GB team

:48:07. > :48:25.are still querying the 4x4 disqualification,

:48:26. > :48:29.still looking for conclusive evidence on that and we've

:48:30. > :48:31.looked at the 4x100m Let's see what the

:48:32. > :48:49.result ends up being. Michael, you watched that

:48:50. > :48:52.the same as we did. The only one that was close

:48:53. > :49:04.would have been the first one. We had a little bit of a weird angle

:49:05. > :49:08.where we couldn't see it quite I did not see any violation,

:49:09. > :49:13.certainly not on the final exchange, which was the one that initially

:49:14. > :49:17.I thought was a little bit delayed because, um, it did look

:49:18. > :49:19.like Trayvon Bromell went off a little bit early,

:49:20. > :49:22.but he was clearly within the zone There is a good chance

:49:23. > :49:39.that the officials, because we've seen some officiating

:49:40. > :49:43.here that hasn't been quite, um... and they've

:49:44. > :49:48.had to go back and made some changes after disqualifying

:49:49. > :49:51.and had to reinstate So there's a good chance that we may

:49:52. > :49:59.see some of these disqualifications reinstated because we're not

:50:00. > :50:01.seeing the violations that you would traditionally see or that

:50:02. > :50:04.you would normally look for or that we've seen with violations

:50:05. > :50:07.in the past where athletes or teams There we are, on the second

:50:08. > :50:17.exchange, well within the zone, exactly where you would want

:50:18. > :50:19.it to be. Tyson Gay to Trayvon Bromell

:50:20. > :50:22.in the anchor in the zone. He has to exchange before

:50:23. > :50:30.crossing the yellow line, and he's well within

:50:31. > :50:31.the zone. There's always a chance that maybe

:50:32. > :50:43.it's not necessarily a zone disqualification or infraction,

:50:44. > :50:46.maybe there was some sort of lane infraction that may have caused

:50:47. > :50:48.the disqualification but we haven't Michael, it has come up

:50:49. > :50:52.as a sector transgression. Obviously, Gatlin is wanting

:50:53. > :51:00.to get the baton early Did he get hold of the baton just

:51:01. > :51:09.before that yellow line? I think that's the only one

:51:10. > :51:12.that looks contentious. He could have taken

:51:13. > :51:23.the exchange outside the bat. But if you can see, the bat

:51:24. > :51:26.is in Justin's hand before he's in the box and I think that

:51:27. > :51:29.could be the problem. The acceleration zone

:51:30. > :51:32.is first and if you watch, the baton is in his hand,

:51:33. > :51:35.he's touching the baton and he's not That's a hawk-eyed

:51:36. > :51:41.judge is all I can say. When you're doing that at full

:51:42. > :51:45.speed, obviously the USA would come and look at that but they have

:51:46. > :51:48.to provide evidence that refutes The other exchanges

:51:49. > :51:58.are fine as we've all seen. That view there for me

:51:59. > :52:04.wasn't totally 100%, And that's because they want to go

:52:05. > :52:10.early, Colin, on that back straight. They want to give Gatlin

:52:11. > :52:14.the long leg, is it were. You cannot hand

:52:15. > :52:22.the baton before that. I think he has his hand on the baton

:52:23. > :52:28.and the baton itself - remember what this race is -

:52:29. > :52:30.you've got to pass I think the baton was actually given

:52:31. > :52:35.to him before he was in the box. He may be, but the baton

:52:36. > :52:38.is not in the box, That's what they're

:52:39. > :52:41.being finicky on here. The baton must be

:52:42. > :52:48.in the exchange zone. Well, they've been a little bit

:52:49. > :52:51.lenient with some of the judging, Great Britain, if that stands,

:52:52. > :52:57.will move into fifth place in the 4x100m in 37.98,

:52:58. > :53:01.the top five teams all, for the first time ever,

:53:02. > :53:08.running under 38 seconds. We'll have another look

:53:09. > :53:09.at the disqualification for Great Britain and see if we can

:53:10. > :53:12.clear it up any further But now let's go to the other Steve,

:53:13. > :53:19.Backley, who is rounding up what ended up being a thrilling

:53:20. > :53:27.pole vault competition. STEVE: Sandy Morris can win gold

:53:28. > :53:32.with this very jump, Absolutely thought that Morris had

:53:33. > :53:57.got over that. It was a great effort

:53:58. > :54:05.and Ekaterini Stefanidi of Greece Well, that was a marginal

:54:06. > :54:24.foul for Morris. The Americans thought

:54:25. > :54:27.she'd gone clear. It's a height she's surpassed

:54:28. > :54:33.indoors earlier this year. It was a great attempt but it

:54:34. > :54:37.means gold is handed There's your gold

:54:38. > :54:44.and silver medallists. Holly Bradshaw of Britain finished

:54:45. > :54:49.in fifth place and Stefanidi, that 4.85m was enough

:54:50. > :54:51.for gold ahead of Morris, Eliza McCartney, the world junior

:54:52. > :54:55.record-holder for bronze and Holly Bradshaw was a very

:54:56. > :55:01.credible fifth place. Well, this is the look back

:55:02. > :55:08.at the throw that won the hammer. Dilshod Nazarov of Tajikistan,

:55:09. > :55:13.the first ever medal for Tajikistan. He carried the flag

:55:14. > :55:19.in the Opening Ceremony and he's also the president

:55:20. > :55:21.of the federation, He took that in the third round,

:55:22. > :55:32.extended it in the fifth. No-one could catch him and a gold

:55:33. > :55:39.medal for the first time ever for Tajikistan, any medal in any

:55:40. > :55:45.event for that matter. Wonderful performance

:55:46. > :55:47.from Dilshod Nazarov, So the flag of Tajikistan,

:55:48. > :56:02.the first time we've seen that in celebrations in

:56:03. > :56:35.an Olympic stadium. Not a night has gone

:56:36. > :56:38.by here without some kind of anomaly We've seen all kinds of bizarre

:56:39. > :56:41.and wonderful decisions, appeals and appeals being overturned

:56:42. > :56:44.but the 4x400m men's relay disqualification from Great Britain

:56:45. > :56:46.has left his scratching our heads. We've had nothing

:56:47. > :56:50.official announced. The best guess - and it is a guess -

:56:51. > :56:55.is that it was something to do with the handover with Martyn Rooney

:56:56. > :56:58.when he received the batton from Here you see Matthew

:56:59. > :57:13.taking the baton and we don't see anything there that

:57:14. > :57:16.would rise to the level Um, you know, the rule that

:57:17. > :57:23.Steve Cram quoted is to do with how the outgoing runner's positioned

:57:24. > :57:29.and what he does once he starts sort of narrowed it down to that

:57:30. > :57:43.exchange with Martyn Rooney. We keep looking here and we just

:57:44. > :57:46.don't see anything in the actual exchange that would rise to the

:57:47. > :57:49.level of a violation but what we know is if there was any sort

:57:50. > :57:52.of positioning issues and there are some rules around that

:57:53. > :57:55.and we're just not quite sure So, you know, what will be happening

:57:56. > :58:00.right now is the British team They will be getting an explanation

:58:01. > :58:04.as to what took place. That's what we've

:58:05. > :58:09.narrowed it down to. We're just hearing right now that it

:58:10. > :58:11.could be Williams to Someone's head has just gone

:58:12. > :58:35.into the shot there. Yeah, OK guys, so that picture

:58:36. > :58:48.really doesn't help because I think Before that red line

:58:49. > :58:52.there's a red dotted line - if you turn round yourselves

:58:53. > :58:55.and look down at the track They have to be standing

:58:56. > :58:58.inside that. They've said Matthew Hudson-Smith's

:58:59. > :59:01.foot and that of the Indian athlete next to him was on the red line

:59:02. > :59:04.as he was standing ready Although it looks like they're

:59:05. > :59:12.all roughly standing in the same There's a judge standing looking

:59:13. > :59:16.right down that line. This is not a very good view for us

:59:17. > :59:20.and this is the problem the British team are having at the moment -

:59:21. > :59:23.they can't get a conclusive view that can go against

:59:24. > :59:25.what the judge has said. So there is no evidence for them

:59:26. > :59:28.to be able to refute So this is what we're

:59:29. > :59:36.being told at the moment. The complication might be that

:59:37. > :59:38.Brazil have also been That would be great for the home

:59:39. > :59:43.crowd but we're being told That's the interpretation

:59:44. > :59:47.from the judge and at the moment they're struggling to find a good

:59:48. > :59:50.picture, as we just saw there, Thank you very much,

:59:51. > :59:54.Steve. Very, very, you know,

:59:55. > :59:58.for us to look at from that angle, it's very difficult to make

:59:59. > :00:00.any kind of conclusion. Typically what will happen is once

:00:01. > :00:06.the judge lines you up, if you move closer, because your incoming runner

:00:07. > :00:09.needs to move a full 400m, if you move closer,

:00:10. > :00:13.he will motion for you to move. Maybe they don't have a judge

:00:14. > :00:16.doing that here, so that would be

:00:17. > :00:19.a little bit difficult. That would be a little bit tough

:00:20. > :00:22.if they wouldn't do that and just kind of leave you

:00:23. > :00:26.to your own devices, you know? But the officiating, again,

:00:27. > :00:31.has not been stellar here, so I would think that, you know,

:00:32. > :00:33.the British team would have a very good case,

:00:34. > :00:36.but what we've seen also in the case of some of the other

:00:37. > :00:39.violations is that runners have been disqualified,

:00:40. > :00:42.teams have gone in and appealed because it was such

:00:43. > :00:44.a minor infraction and they've still allowed

:00:45. > :00:46.that to stand. Look, we will know tomorrow

:00:47. > :00:51.when we turn up here, whether or not any kind of appeal

:00:52. > :00:55.has been successful. But let's talk about success rather

:00:56. > :00:57.than anomalies in officiating. The women's 4x100m relay

:00:58. > :01:01.from Great Britain a magnificent run from the quartet,

:01:02. > :01:10.Denise. We've seen our British women

:01:11. > :01:15.set nationals records this year, and they came

:01:16. > :01:18.in really, really confident. We've talked about them gelling

:01:19. > :01:22.and talked about the trust and I think Desiree Henry here ran

:01:23. > :01:27.a superb second leg. Clean, crisp changeovers

:01:28. > :01:30.is what this relay was all about, and this is what secured them

:01:31. > :01:33.this fantastic bronze medal. Young Darryl Neita,

:01:34. > :01:36.her first Olympics. It's incredible, this experience

:01:37. > :01:39.she's getting. All she had to do was hold

:01:40. > :01:42.on to that position which, as you can see she's comfortably,

:01:43. > :01:44.comfortably in third. We didn't get a team

:01:45. > :01:51.to qualify in 2012, and Desiree Henry

:01:52. > :01:53.lit the flame in 2012, and there she is winning a bronze

:01:54. > :01:55.medal at the Olympic Games. You could see just how much

:01:56. > :02:03.it meant to her, I mean they have worked hard,

:02:04. > :02:06.you know? The relay has been so

:02:07. > :02:09.important to this squad. And just look at her face there.

:02:10. > :02:14.It's just fantastic. Magnificent run as well

:02:15. > :02:16.from the USA, who had because of what went on yesterday

:02:17. > :02:20.in their qualification and they came through and stormed

:02:21. > :02:23.to victory but that looks just as sweet for that young crop

:02:24. > :02:26.of sprinters and they caught up Emily, it was key to get the team

:02:27. > :02:31.into the race. It's always the aim to get the girls

:02:32. > :03:10.a good position going into second. hotel I cannot thank the team

:03:11. > :03:15.enough. I have been with this team since 2011, four years ago we did

:03:16. > :03:21.not make it, and this is for all the girls that have tried so hard. I

:03:22. > :03:25.have to thank them, they gave us so much support on Twitter, I cannot

:03:26. > :03:31.thank them enough. That support from them, we did it for them as well,

:03:32. > :03:36.because we were never at the top, and now I cannot believe it, I am so

:03:37. > :03:42.happy, big thanks to these girls and the girls at home. Thank you. Big

:03:43. > :03:46.team effort, well said. You were lighting the cauldron four years

:03:47. > :03:47.ago, no British team even in the women's event then, and you have got

:03:48. > :03:58.a medal! I lit the cauldron, but I thought

:03:59. > :04:01.it was my first Olympics I had the thought of coming back

:04:02. > :04:06.with a medals, but the fact that we done it and to see Darryl

:04:07. > :04:09.cross the line in third, tears were rolling down my eyes,

:04:10. > :04:12.amazing feeling of accomplishment. We have so many girls behind

:04:13. > :04:15.the lines as well that have given us the confidence to come out

:04:16. > :04:17.and run hard. It's taken four years so thank

:04:18. > :04:20.you so much to everyone to do so well in an individual final

:04:21. > :04:27.and now take a medal home with you. Can you even begin to reflect

:04:28. > :04:29.on what's happened to you? I'm just honestly

:04:30. > :04:31.so proud of these girls. Because we have worked

:04:32. > :04:33.unbelievably hard. We've been practising

:04:34. > :04:34.this since January. Of all the teams in the line,

:04:35. > :04:37.we probably honestly We've worked our changes inside out,

:04:38. > :04:41.so many different girls We've worked so hard and the help

:04:42. > :04:47.of our coaches and the help and support of everybody

:04:48. > :04:49.that plays National Lottery and the National Lottery as well,

:04:50. > :04:52.this medal would not be here. So many people have

:04:53. > :04:54.been on our side. This is for the entire nation.

:04:55. > :04:58.Thank you. Darryl, what a meteoric rise

:04:59. > :05:01.for you to come onto the grandest stage of all and leave

:05:02. > :05:04.with a medal at 19. Do you know?

:05:05. > :05:07.I'm absolutely speechless. I literally am so proud of my team

:05:08. > :05:11.and everyone around us, This time last year, I would never

:05:12. > :05:16.have imagined being here. I'm just speechless and I'm just

:05:17. > :05:19.happy we have this faith Your face said it all, to be honest,

:05:20. > :05:23.when you crossed the line. I couldn't believe it and then I saw

:05:24. > :05:27.it was a British record. We absolutely smashed

:05:28. > :05:33.it, and I'm so happy. You deserve the

:05:34. > :05:34.celebrations tonight. Thank you very, very much.

:05:35. > :05:38.Thank you. Thank you. And that is why we love

:05:39. > :05:56.the Olympic Games. They do but they also know

:05:57. > :06:00.that they have the ability and you have that potential

:06:01. > :06:03.and you feel a responsibility to realise that potential

:06:04. > :06:06.and I think that's what they feel. I think that's also the frustration

:06:07. > :06:08.of the men's 4x100m relay team. It's not about the funding

:06:09. > :06:11.necessarily, but you heard each one of those guys say,

:06:12. > :06:13."We know we could be there." It's good they do.

:06:14. > :06:16.They'll take that forward. We've seen just a new attitude

:06:17. > :06:20.within the British team. They are hungry.

:06:21. > :06:22.They don't fear this arena any more. You know, they work hard,

:06:23. > :06:25.they know what they're about, and they want to maximise when

:06:26. > :06:27.they come to these championships. That's such a brilliant

:06:28. > :06:29.attitude to have. Where does that come from?

:06:30. > :06:34.The shining examples of Jess and Mo? but it's also particular

:06:35. > :06:40.to this group of girls. They want to have each other's back

:06:41. > :06:43.the whole way round, When you have a good group,

:06:44. > :06:48.you're inspiring and motivating And to do it for each other

:06:49. > :06:55.to bring home the medal Let's hear from this guy

:06:56. > :07:00.and his friends, Usain Bolt and co, Congratulations on the gold medal.

:07:01. > :07:10.It was surely never in doubt. Yeah, it was never in doubt.

:07:11. > :07:13.We went out there very confident. We're a unit, you know.

:07:14. > :07:15.We're a team. We love competing on the track,

:07:16. > :07:19.and I love running with these guys. You seem to do it with so much joy,

:07:20. > :07:26.no pressure. Did you feel the history on Usain

:07:27. > :07:31.and what he could do tonight? Not really. We were having fun.

:07:32. > :07:38.We just had to go out and execute. The confidence we have,

:07:39. > :07:45.you know, it's hard to go out there with pressure.

:07:46. > :07:48.We're here to relax. We're very confident, you know,

:07:49. > :07:51.we just wanted to get Yohan, you're such

:07:52. > :07:55.a laidback quartet. Tell me what this means

:07:56. > :07:58.to your nation. We came home victorious because

:07:59. > :08:06.Usain Bolt needed to be immortal and put it together,

:08:07. > :08:12.and he's immortal. But guess what? I encourage him to

:08:13. > :08:15.come back for 2020! Did you hear that?

:08:16. > :08:17.No, no, what did he say? He's encouraging you

:08:18. > :08:19.to come wack for 2020. No, no, no, I'm just happy

:08:20. > :08:22.that I did what I came to do. I'm proud of myself.

:08:23. > :08:25.I have to give thanks to the guys. Triple-triple, treble-treble,

:08:26. > :08:31.whatever you want to call it but to deliver it -

:08:32. > :08:34.the enormity is blowing our minds. The pressure is real but, um,

:08:35. > :08:41.I look at it as accomplishment, you know what I mean?

:08:42. > :08:43.I enjoy pressure. For me, I came through

:08:44. > :08:49.and I'm proud of myself. How will you celebrate?

:08:50. > :08:52.Oh, well, I won't celebrate now. I'll stay up late tonight

:08:53. > :08:56.just talking, having fun. I'm just relieved,

:08:57. > :09:00.you know what I mean? I've done it and it's just...

:09:01. > :09:07.It's unreal. You never knew from the start

:09:08. > :09:10.that this would happen to me, and now it has.

:09:11. > :09:12.It's a brilliant feeling. I told the guys if they didn't come

:09:13. > :09:16.through for me, I'd beat them up. You're the greatest

:09:17. > :09:17.with Ali and Pele. I'm the greatest.

:09:18. > :09:19.I'm the greatest. You have 50 or 60

:09:20. > :09:21.interviews lined up. You're a gentleman, Usain.

:09:22. > :09:26.Thanks for always speaking to us. You make me feel good

:09:27. > :09:35.when I watch the commentary. Nothing to do with you!

:09:36. > :09:44.Cheers. Thank you. Oh, Phil, I'm sure it is a little

:09:45. > :09:48.bit but yeah, Steve has commentated on some of the most fantastic

:09:49. > :09:50.moments in Usain Bolt's career and what a pleasure

:09:51. > :09:55.it is for all of us to sit here and see his greatness

:09:56. > :09:58.on the Olympic track We are going to miss this man,

:09:59. > :10:03.Michael Johnson! Yeah, and I think he's

:10:04. > :10:07.going to miss it as well, is that he's relieved

:10:08. > :10:11.and I think that, you know, it speaks again that he told me

:10:12. > :10:15.he does feel pressure and I think that showed right there, that it is

:10:16. > :10:18.a lot of pressure being Usain Bolt. It is a tremendous amount

:10:19. > :10:21.of pressure to have, you know, so much expectation that, you know,

:10:22. > :10:23.early on in his career, there was an expectation that every

:10:24. > :10:26.time he went out there, he'd break a world record

:10:27. > :10:29.and I think he's relieved and gotten it all over

:10:30. > :10:44.with with pure gold. USA have had great

:10:45. > :10:50.success in hurdling. Well done, USA,

:10:51. > :10:52.but Great Britain could be Mo is on the track again,

:10:53. > :10:59.5,000m time. What we saw in the women's

:11:00. > :11:01.5,000m tonight underlined the enormity

:11:02. > :11:06.of the task he has before him. He'll be tired from that.

:11:07. > :11:10.He ran the heat. I believe he can do it

:11:11. > :11:13.but he'll be tired and it's very, very tough to do that -

:11:14. > :11:16.he's done it once already and to do But we will be here

:11:17. > :11:20.and with him every step Great Britain's men

:11:21. > :11:31.may be reinstated by then. Thanks for your company

:11:32. > :11:40.this evening. Lost for words, Gabi and the A-Team.

:11:41. > :11:47.Thank you for that. On that, Usain Bolt,

:11:48. > :11:49.an absolute privilege to be sitting here watching that man in Rio and

:11:50. > :11:52.all those Olympic Games. Come on, Usain,

:11:53. > :11:54.let's have you in 2020 in Tokyo. One of the other Great British

:11:55. > :11:57.stories in the past couple of weeks has been Great Britain's

:11:58. > :11:59.women's hockey team. They're unbeaten on their

:12:00. > :12:01.march to the final. Standing in their way,

:12:02. > :12:08.the Netherlands. Watching this one, Matt Chilton and

:12:09. > :12:29.Mel Clewlow. Helen Richardson-Walsh waiting, and

:12:30. > :12:31.this time it is scored! Susannah Townsend wide-awake,

:12:32. > :12:50.setting off at pace. Helen Richardson-Walsh takes it

:12:51. > :13:06.across to McCallin. Georgie Twigg on the 23, back to

:13:07. > :13:16.Hollie Webb. Kate Richardson-Walsh Asgard Sam Quek to her left. -- has

:13:17. > :13:20.got. The Dutch are broken away. Kate Richardson-Walsh beaten for pace.

:13:21. > :13:22.Maddie Hinch is out, the angle... It is a goal!

:13:23. > :13:28.Her goal has ignited this Dutch run of pressure.

:13:29. > :13:46.It's a goal for Netherlands, 2-1 in front.

:13:47. > :13:55.It's a goal for Netherlands, 2-1 in front.

:13:56. > :14:01.2-1 with four and half minutes left until half-time

:14:02. > :14:20.Crista Cullen brings Great Britain level!

:14:21. > :14:26.Great Britain get a foot on the ball.

:14:27. > :14:44.The Dutch have their fifth penalty corner of the game.

:14:45. > :14:52.Kitty van Male gets the goal, her second and the Dutch lead

:14:53. > :14:58.by three goals to two with 8.5 minutes left in the third period.

:14:59. > :15:12.Same personnel involved, Unsworth, and Ansley.

:15:13. > :15:39.The gold medal game is going to a penalty shoot-out.

:15:40. > :16:03.First penalty of the shoot-out in the gold medal game.

:16:04. > :16:05.Helen Richardson-Walsh on her way, holds it up.

:16:06. > :16:08.Hinch off her line, goes out to meet her.

:16:09. > :16:24.Charging towards Sombroek, sweeps it round.

:16:25. > :16:26.Still time left, but now she's run out of time.

:16:27. > :16:35.Three penalties, no luck from any player yet.

:16:36. > :17:11.Helen Richardson-Walsh, penalty stroke.

:17:12. > :17:15.Great Britain are off the mark in the shoot-out!

:17:16. > :17:28.She's going all the way round Maddie Hinch and Hinch pushes

:17:29. > :17:49.Hinch once again taking her position, slapping her crossbar.

:17:50. > :18:01.Hinch watching it every step of the way.

:18:02. > :18:20.Webb on her way to win gold for Great Britain.

:18:21. > :18:34.Great Britain have won the Olympic gold medal!

:18:35. > :18:38.Remember they won bronze at London 2012.

:18:39. > :18:51.and they've gone and clinched the Olympic gold medal.

:18:52. > :19:42.You know, this could change the face of women's hockey, of men's hockey,

:19:43. > :19:46.That is going to act as such an inspiration to many girls,

:19:47. > :19:49.many ladies, who are playing hockey right across our country.

:19:50. > :19:53.Unbeaten as well, remember, they didn't even lose

:19:54. > :20:02.A lot of people fancied the Netherlands, but they went

:20:03. > :20:04.into that game full of confidence, knowing that they could win it.

:20:05. > :20:11.We had so many incredible moments for Team GB but just take

:20:12. > :20:15.Depending on your point of view and which sport you love,

:20:16. > :20:18.you have to say this has got to be one of the great moments

:20:19. > :20:22.and for Great British sport as well at these Olympics.

:20:23. > :20:24.They're so focused, a talented watch.

:20:25. > :20:28.They're led by Kate Richardson-Walsh so well.

:20:29. > :20:38.Just so tense, unbelievable stuff right to the very end.

:20:39. > :20:47.Look at those big smiles and to beat the Netherlands and to beat Germany

:20:48. > :21:50.Well done to Great Britain's women's hockey team.

:21:51. > :22:04.Well, he's been superb up to this point.

:22:05. > :22:08.He's been very promising for some time.

:22:09. > :22:11.He has raced up the respectability stakes here.

:22:12. > :22:21.It will be a fascinating clash this one, between these two.

:22:22. > :22:45.He's trying to control off the leg here.

:22:46. > :22:48.Back to standing but still working with just one leg in control here.

:22:49. > :22:50.He attempts to seize the two-point take-down score and the Georgian

:22:51. > :22:58.That's the kind of score that he was routinely

:22:59. > :23:04.getting in earlier matches, not this time.

:23:05. > :23:06.That's what makes this so fascinating.

:23:07. > :23:09.We get to the apex of the competition and you have two

:23:10. > :23:11.wrestlers so accomplished, very little between them.

:23:12. > :23:26.It will be a joy to watch this one unfold over the next 4.5 minutes.

:23:27. > :24:01.So no score after two minutes and at this point...

:24:02. > :24:17.There will be a clock if there's no score.

:24:18. > :24:19.Sometimes it's so hard to differentiate between the two

:24:20. > :24:23.wrestlers as to which is the least passive.

:24:24. > :24:29.The wrestler under the passivity clock is under more pressure

:24:30. > :24:49.the Japanese wrestler takes the single-point advantage.

:24:50. > :24:59.How good was that defence from the Georgian?

:25:00. > :25:01.Quick to size up what the Japanese wrestler was up to there.

:25:02. > :25:12.He's telegraphed that one so if he goes for it again,

:25:13. > :25:21.Khinchegashvili will be even more aware of it.

:25:22. > :25:32.Just a point in it with Higuchi getting that penalty point.

:25:33. > :25:34.Khinchegashvili is an experienced wrestler despite his

:25:35. > :25:43.Hugely successful in his career absolutely no panicker

:25:44. > :25:52.It's just a matter of finishing the job off.

:25:53. > :26:05.This time Higuchi more decisive in scoring two points.

:26:06. > :26:08.Something more authoritative in the way he got that.

:26:09. > :26:11.He's looking to continue here as well.

:26:12. > :26:19.Can he go further and apply the gut wrench to get the turn?

:26:20. > :26:25.Well defended again by Khinchegashvili.

:26:26. > :26:32.That was really, really excellent stuff from him.

:26:33. > :26:35.He's been utterly consistent in his approach there.

:26:36. > :26:37.This time, Khinchegashvili backing away.

:26:38. > :26:42.He'll try to turn this round into a points-scoring

:26:43. > :26:44.position of his own, which he's done.

:26:45. > :27:10.This is a problematic position for the Japanese wrestler.

:27:11. > :27:13.Trying to roll him and turn him but there's no score.

:27:14. > :27:17.Khinchegashvili was trying his absolute but did dig very deep

:27:18. > :27:20.into his soul there and his opponent couldn't do it.

:27:21. > :27:25.Let's get ready for the last 90 seconds.

:27:26. > :27:41.Someone is taking home a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

:27:42. > :27:58.There's danger here of a passivity violation and it gets

:27:59. > :28:12.So his lead is in danger of disappearing here.

:28:13. > :28:23.Might we have a result separated by a countback?

:28:24. > :28:28.Both wrestlers just happy to let these seven seconds tick out maybe.

:28:29. > :28:33.We might have a grandstand finish in the last 40 seconds or so.

:28:34. > :28:39.Higuchi tried to go for the leg there on one more occasion.

:28:40. > :28:43.But it is now three points apiece and by virtue of having

:28:44. > :28:49.scored the last point, Khinchegashvili is the leader.

:28:50. > :28:54.That's on the countback system, so suddenly it's all turned around

:28:55. > :28:57.and it is the Georgian who is in gold-medal position

:28:58. > :29:10.Well, we've got a challenge from the Japanese camp.

:29:11. > :29:13.That's been dismissed by the looks of things and on we go.

:29:14. > :29:20.Into the last 20 seconds of the bout.

:29:21. > :29:23.Khinchegashvili of Georgia has got the lead at the moment

:29:24. > :29:31.He has the lead going into the final ten seconds.

:29:32. > :29:35.Can he hold on or does Higuchi have one last final decisive attack?

:29:36. > :29:39.It looks as though it is, indeed, going to be the gold medal to
