:22:46. > :22:49.do? So everything just comes... It was a blur. Everything just seemed

:22:50. > :22:53.to stop. I did not know what to do so I just stood there and jumped

:22:58. > :23:05.playing hockey? School or after that? School. I started when I was

:23:06. > :23:13.roughly seven. So a long time, over 20 years ago. I was 12. Secondary

:23:14. > :23:19.school. I was eight, at a local hockey club. Quite a few people want

:23:20. > :23:23.to know about your nickname, the baby faced assassin. Who started it

:23:24. > :23:28.and do you like it? I can't remember, I think it might have been

:23:29. > :23:32.a few girls from the U21 team, when I played for them I was quite young

:23:33. > :23:40.and still looked quite young, so it kind of stock. Do you actually call

:23:41. > :23:47.her that? No, I think you have grown out of it now. You have another

:23:48. > :23:53.nickname though. Keeping that to yourself, good idea. What effect do

:23:54. > :23:58.you hope this will have back home on local hockey clubs? We are already

:23:59. > :24:04.hearing today about people ringing the local club and sing, can I bring

:24:05. > :24:08.my kids? For me, that is the most amazing thing. We all want a gold

:24:09. > :24:11.medal and this is amazing but to hear that, and all the messages we

:24:12. > :24:16.have had from home, and everybody who wants to get into hockey, no

:24:17. > :24:20.matter your age or your gender, that is just amazing that people will be

:24:21. > :24:25.inspired by it and are loving it. That is literally the best thing

:24:26. > :24:31.about winning this. If 1% of those 10 million join a hockey club that

:24:32. > :24:35.makes a huge difference, doesn't it? That is the whole point of inspiring

:24:36. > :24:39.the next generation. I member watching Kelly Holmes and it

:24:40. > :24:43.inspired me. If you can encourage one person to take up any sport and

:24:44. > :24:48.be involved and be active and have fun, then that is job done for us.

:24:49. > :24:52.Another question, what advice would you give to an 8-10 -year-old about

:24:53. > :24:59.what sport to play? You are just saying, do something? Anything. Just

:25:00. > :25:03.enjoy it. Do not feel pressured to choose a sport to early. The more

:25:04. > :25:07.you can do, the more experience you can get from sport, it just builds

:25:08. > :25:12.you up as a person and you learn so much from it. Sacrifice is a big one

:25:13. > :25:17.as well. I know that you say, oh, I have given up all these things to

:25:18. > :25:21.get here, but the life of a sport star, yes, it has magical moments,

:25:22. > :25:25.but so much hard work goes into preparing and getting through those

:25:26. > :25:31.moments. What have you done to get here? I would call it a life choice

:25:32. > :25:36.rather than a sacrifice. Even though we don't get to do some stuff like,

:25:37. > :25:41.for instance, university, it was not the same as a normal university

:25:42. > :25:45.student. But all of that, missing out on certain bits you would have

:25:46. > :25:50.liked to have done with your friends, etc, weddings, you are not

:25:51. > :25:55.there... It is all totally worth it. 100% with that, over again. All the

:25:56. > :26:03.weddings she missed, she does not care. 100%. It is a choice. And when

:26:04. > :26:11.you have got a gold medal around your neck it is completely worth it.

:26:12. > :26:15.I have nothing to add to that. How do you build your team spirit? You

:26:16. > :26:18.say you do a lot of training together, but another question

:26:19. > :26:24.leading into that, when you leave here, what do you then go back to?

:26:25. > :26:30.When you return to the UK, what happens next? Team spirit, first. A

:26:31. > :26:33.good one is these are really horrible running sessions. We have

:26:34. > :26:37.some really horrible training sessions and the best thing is when

:26:38. > :26:41.you finish and you just huddled together as a team. You are like, we

:26:42. > :26:46.have just gone through that, it will pay off in the end. So that is a key

:26:47. > :26:54.one for me. Going through hard times together really brings you together.

:26:55. > :26:59.Through the National Lottery funding we receive we are able to train

:27:00. > :27:03.together day in, day out. We know each other so well because of that.

:27:04. > :27:07.We have been through the tough times and stuck together. The belief that

:27:08. > :27:12.we have in one another is exceptional. We go out there and we

:27:13. > :27:18.know our job and we do our individual job for the team. There

:27:19. > :27:25.are 31 of us who train day in, day out, for this. And this has only

:27:26. > :27:29.been 16, plus free reserves able to come out here. So all of those

:27:30. > :27:32.people back home who could not come, and the reserves, they all deserve

:27:33. > :27:37.one of these, and we would not be here without them, because they wish

:27:38. > :27:41.us every day to get better. So the team spirit and everything we have

:27:42. > :27:46.is generated by all of those people, not just the people who are here.

:27:47. > :27:50.Did you all her family out with you? People watching, or people back home

:27:51. > :27:59.today, I imagine? My family are right over there. The majority of my

:28:00. > :28:08.family are actually out in Rio. Many of us have had parents coming out to

:28:09. > :28:12.support us. It was two to one Dutch versus British supporters yesterday,

:28:13. > :28:17.but we were definitely louder. My family is back at home but they have

:28:18. > :28:21.all been watching, cheering us on. My mum and my dad and my brothers

:28:22. > :28:27.came out, they flew back home, and then flew back for the final. So

:28:28. > :28:30.they have racked up the miles. Let's look at the medal moment. It was the

:28:31. > :28:36.longest medal ceremony I think I have ever seen in my life. 40

:28:37. > :28:40.minutes. You have had all the adulation, jumped up and down, the

:28:41. > :28:45.emotion poured out, is this a more serious moment, an emotional moment?

:28:46. > :28:48.Is this when you think about all the hard work and the hours of practice

:28:49. > :28:54.and training and the fact you have played hockey since you were seven

:28:55. > :28:58.years old? It is a moment to reflect, almost, you have it around

:28:59. > :29:03.your neck, you have done your bit, you just think back to what it has

:29:04. > :29:08.taken to get there, and all the girls back home, we are just a small

:29:09. > :29:12.proportion of the 31 training squad, but for me, when we sang the

:29:13. > :29:16.national anthem, I do not cry, but even I cried. It is just

:29:17. > :29:22.overwhelming. To be on that podium in the gold medal position. Is it

:29:23. > :29:28.weird, watching it back? Really weird. I know this important

:29:29. > :29:34.question, what can you tell us about the party last night? Look at your

:29:35. > :29:38.faces! It was really nice. It was mostly us, some of the men's squad,

:29:39. > :29:42.and our family and friends who travelled out. It was really nice

:29:43. > :29:47.because we have not seen much of our friends and family whilst out here.

:29:48. > :29:50.We started on the first day of the Olympics and finished yesterday. And

:29:51. > :29:55.straight after one game you focus on the next so we have been in a

:29:56. > :30:00.bubble. So it was nice to get to see everyone and celebrate with them. It

:30:01. > :30:04.sounds like a good night. And what is the best thing about being in

:30:05. > :30:08.Rio, other than obviously these things around your next the moment?

:30:09. > :30:12.You say that, obviously, like you say, virtually day one until now,

:30:13. > :30:18.have you had time to do anything else?

:30:19. > :30:26.We had a trip up Sugarloaf Mountain, the views were stunning, and the

:30:27. > :30:31.people have been very friendly, and the energy is infectious. And it is

:30:32. > :30:34.a very special city. I would probably say the volunteers have

:30:35. > :30:39.been great, almost reminded me a little bit of London when they

:30:40. > :30:46.really get behind you and they've been very helpful, very supportive,

:30:47. > :30:51.and always asking for pin switches. So just the volunteers that make it

:30:52. > :30:56.very special. Just the support, whether it is Team GB support from

:30:57. > :31:02.people we have had from people who know hockey or don't know it. It's

:31:03. > :31:07.just been incredible. What now? What is the next thing? Are you going as

:31:08. > :31:13.far as Tokyo or a few months down the line? A little bit of a rest may

:31:14. > :31:17.be, first. We don't get too many holidays so a little bit of a rest

:31:18. > :31:22.personally for me, then I'm going to Vietnam's Prahalad. I have a couple

:31:23. > :31:26.of weeks off, then I'm playing out in Holland, I'm playing a season out

:31:27. > :31:33.there. Quite a few of the squad play in Holland, don't they? Yes. I'm

:31:34. > :31:38.going back to work after a couple of weeks. I work at DEFRA, I'm studying

:31:39. > :31:44.to be an accountant. It is very different. Clever and incredibly

:31:45. > :31:48.good at sport. One final thing I supposes there will be changed now

:31:49. > :31:53.in the team because your captain is moving on, you can see it is sad

:31:54. > :31:56.because you've been through this wonderful experience together but do

:31:57. > :31:59.you feel there's been a real strength amongst these players here

:32:00. > :32:04.and those that weren't able to get here that this can be continued

:32:05. > :32:10.success? Winning it is one thing but staying there is the next big step,

:32:11. > :32:18.isn't it? Massively. It is going to be a real loss, K definitely

:32:19. > :32:24.inspired meal when I was younger to play hockey. Definitely. The

:32:25. > :32:28.programme we have, thanks to UK Sport and national lottery, will

:32:29. > :32:32.enable that. And our three mottoes are inspire the future, create

:32:33. > :32:37.history, and be the difference. By the programme we set up and the
