:00:11. > :00:21.Welcome to viewers on BBC Two, we are here live with the final section
:00:22. > :00:26.of the modern pentathlon. Is his shooting letting him down, the
:00:27. > :00:33.combined run shoot, the final event of the pentathlon is now on BBC Two.
:00:34. > :00:37.The Russian is way ahead of the field. He has got the gold medal
:00:38. > :00:50.sewn up unless something goes drastically wrong. You can see the
:00:51. > :00:54.gap behind him, Alexander Lesun. The Italian bearer. He is being
:00:55. > :01:12.overtaken by 24. -- Ismael Marcelo Hernandez Uscanga.
:01:13. > :01:17.The Ukrainian is in the bronze medal position. 32-macro there, in the
:01:18. > :01:35.yellow and green of Australia. His sister got the gold medal here
:01:36. > :01:39.yesterday -- Max Esposito. He had an excellent fence at the start of the
:01:40. > :01:49.day. He did really well in the swim, we think he is in tenth position
:01:50. > :01:58.now, 28. This is a real battle for the bronze medal position -- Jinhwa
:01:59. > :02:13.Jung. The gold medal goes to Alexander Lesun. The race coming up,
:02:14. > :02:18.Ismael Marcelo Hernandez Uscanga of Mexico wins and modern pentathlon
:02:19. > :02:22.medal for his country. Alexander Lesun, the only Russian here in the
:02:23. > :02:31.modern pentathlon team finishes in first place. His team-mate was
:02:32. > :02:40.banned in the controversy over doping. It looks as though it will
:02:41. > :02:49.be a ninth place for Jinhwa Jung. James Cook crossing over the line.
:02:50. > :02:55.You have been keeping an eye on the placings. We think James Cook was in
:02:56. > :03:06.13th place. He has moved up a few spots. -- James Cooke. A
:03:07. > :03:11.disappointing final run for him even to go for the medals. He has got a
:03:12. > :03:20.great future ahead of him. Absolutely. This was an amazing
:03:21. > :03:26.position for Joseph Choong to BN. He has given it his all and he should
:03:27. > :03:32.be proud. He has gleaned so much experience for this competition. At
:03:33. > :03:37.the end of the day, there were better and more experienced athletes
:03:38. > :03:41.out there. The times were so close, the field was so bunched together,
:03:42. > :03:46.it was a real battle for those medals. Alexander Lesun walked the
:03:47. > :03:53.gold medal but the others were very tight. Silver medal for Pavlo
:03:54. > :03:59.Tymoshchenko from Ukraine. And Ismael Marcelo Hernandez Uscanga
:04:00. > :04:06.from Mexico moved from sixth place to third place. So no medals for
:04:07. > :04:10.Team GB in the modern pentathlon in 2016, the first time since Steph won
:04:11. > :04:17.her gold medal in London since that has happened. Lots to learn, when we
:04:18. > :04:24.refresh in Tokyo in four years' time. CLARE BALDING: Matthew Pinsent
:04:25. > :04:29.was watching the final stages. You have been following it throughout
:04:30. > :04:37.and for 13 macro, a disappointing finish but when you try to shoot and
:04:38. > :04:45.you are exhausted, it can have a disastrous effect -- Joseph Choong.
:04:46. > :04:50.The skill of the combined event is to give everything into the run and
:04:51. > :04:57.your breathing very heavily, your arms are going up and down, people
:04:58. > :05:02.do not notice, it is a laser weapon, every time you have to put the gun
:05:03. > :05:07.down to reload, it is electronic, it is going up and down, you are
:05:08. > :05:11.breathing, it is very difficult. There was no way in reality that he
:05:12. > :05:15.had the experience in modern pentathlon to deal with that
:05:16. > :05:19.situation and his first Olympics, he has hardly finished in any ranking
:05:20. > :05:24.event in the top ten before now. Seven in the Europeans was his best
:05:25. > :05:35.result. Let us give him credit, he has done well to put himself in a
:05:36. > :05:38.position for that and I do not think you can call it disappointing. For
:05:39. > :05:40.both of them, Matthew, the same thing for the women yesterday, the
:05:41. > :05:46.very first ranking for the fencing was costly. It is enormous. In that
:05:47. > :05:50.opening preliminary round fencing, you fight against everyone else in
:05:51. > :05:55.the competition, your wins are tarted up and your losses and that
:05:56. > :06:00.ratio gives you the points and we had that with Samantha Murray, her
:06:01. > :06:04.quote was, I fenced like an idiot in her opening round which put her a
:06:05. > :06:13.long way back from the medal position. James Cooke, probably our
:06:14. > :06:23.number one ranked male athlete,... There he is right there. Hang on.
:06:24. > :06:34.The usual politics with the mixed zone. Delighted. How was your
:06:35. > :06:41.performance? It was good. I started off terribly with the offence. The
:06:42. > :06:44.other day. It did not start from there but then I said to myself as
:06:45. > :06:50.long as I make myself proud in the other events, the swimming was very
:06:51. > :06:55.good, Ambrose probably beat me about ten times this year so it was nice
:06:56. > :06:59.to get him. I was pleased with the ride, it was tricky, but I got
:07:00. > :07:05.around, but the atmosphere was incredible. Family and friends were
:07:06. > :07:09.here which was nice. How badly were you kicking yourself about that
:07:10. > :07:13.opening fans? It is something we have been working on for the last
:07:14. > :07:21.three years and it has been going so well. I always said, 2016 cannot be
:07:22. > :07:27.a bad year, I finished as world number one, I won two World Cups, it
:07:28. > :07:33.hurts, but I am proud of my year but not quite proud of my fencing. What
:07:34. > :07:40.kind of performance was realistic when you came into Rio? Everyone
:07:41. > :07:44.comes in here to win medals, with medals and ahead and that is
:07:45. > :07:49.something I wanted to do. I just did not put myself in the best position,
:07:50. > :08:00.the fencing killed me. It was like rowing with one or. I left myself a
:08:01. > :08:04.lot of work to do. First Olympics, lots to think about. This is
:08:05. > :08:10.inspiring so I definitely want to be back. Just a word about Joseph
:08:11. > :08:16.Choong, what kind of performance did he put in to put himself in that
:08:17. > :08:23.position? He is not your average Joe, here's a fantastic athlete. He
:08:24. > :08:26.is incredibly talented, he had the best competition of his life and
:08:27. > :08:31.unfortunately he did not hold it there. But he put himself in the
:08:32. > :08:36.right position and that is all you can ask. We are talking about you.
:08:37. > :08:42.How was your competition? Everything went really well except for the
:08:43. > :08:46.shooting, to be honest. I had been first going into a competition
:08:47. > :08:50.before, I was very happy with my first shoot, you cannot ask for more
:08:51. > :08:55.and the last shoot was the same. It was just the middle, I do not know
:08:56. > :08:59.what happened. I felt I was shooting fine, but the target is not going
:09:00. > :09:04.off, so it was my fault. Have you ever been in that position going
:09:05. > :09:12.into the combined before? Since the under 18 's, I am used to starting
:09:13. > :09:15.first. I have got good memories and experience from those times.
:09:16. > :09:21.Unfortunately it did not work today and I do not know why. How do some
:09:22. > :09:26.up the pentathlon performance from Britain? There were definitely some
:09:27. > :09:30.positives. The girls finishing top ten was incredible after they're
:09:31. > :09:33.fairly per offences they had, compared to the normal high
:09:34. > :09:41.standards. Jamie did well coming back. His swim was back to his
:09:42. > :09:49.personal best. Definite positives to take away. Well done both of you,
:09:50. > :09:54.something to build from. Can we say thanks to all of our family who are
:09:55. > :09:58.up there watching us. Thank you to the national lottery as well,
:09:59. > :10:05.without them we would not be here. Job done, well done. Joseph Choong
:10:06. > :10:10.finishing ninth and Jamie in 14th place. Matthew has followed the
:10:11. > :10:16.modern pentathlon throughout. Great Britain still waiting for a medal in
:10:17. > :10:20.individual terms, but in 1976, the team got a gold medal. I promise we
:10:21. > :10:25.will bring you up-to-date with the diving, Noel Tom Daley, he finished
:10:26. > :10:31.last and failed to qualify for the final of the 10m platform, but gold
:10:32. > :10:37.went to China and it was their younger diver who was absolutely
:10:38. > :11:00.sensational. Look at this for a final dive.
:11:01. > :11:06.Aisen Chen who had withstood the pressure of coming here with all the
:11:07. > :11:19.expectation, he is only 20 years old and it is his first Olympics and
:11:20. > :11:26.while his compatriot Bo Qiu had a terrible around, but Aisen Chen
:11:27. > :11:39.remains superb throughout. Sanchez finished second, a silver medal for
:11:40. > :11:46.Mexico, but America took the bronze medal with David Boudia. We will
:11:47. > :11:55.move to the flyweight boxing, Nicola Adams, this is how she performed
:11:56. > :12:00.today. Nicola Adams, looking to join the shortlist of Olympic boxing
:12:01. > :12:08.legends, taking a brace of titles in the boxing ring. Head up. No
:12:09. > :12:14.holding. An Olympic gold medal bout about to get underway. Here we go.
:12:15. > :12:21.The first of the scheduled rounds in the final. Nicola Adams has
:12:22. > :12:29.demonstrated terrific variety, targeting the head and body from the
:12:30. > :12:36.right flanks. Into the second round, Nicola Adams sweeping the opening
:12:37. > :12:42.round unanimously with 10-9 from all the judges. A wonderful one, two
:12:43. > :12:48.from Adams who is finding a range and rhythm and timing. Two rounds
:12:49. > :12:53.completed, both of the completed round so far have scored in favour
:12:54. > :12:57.of the reigning Olympic champion, Nicola Adams. Working well but that
:12:58. > :13:01.left jab but Sarah Ourahmoune is getting closer with her punches.
:13:02. > :13:06.Nicola Adams fell short there. Sarah Ourahmoune with that increased
:13:07. > :13:11.success has swept round three across the board, one point is in it. All
:13:12. > :13:15.of her ring craft and experience will be put to the test as Sarah
:13:16. > :13:20.Ourahmoune trying to work away at close range. Both boxers continuing
:13:21. > :13:24.to extract the best from one another. Incredibly tight gold medal
:13:25. > :13:31.bout between two familiar rivals. Nicola Adams lets out a triumphant
:13:32. > :13:39.roar having been crowned as Olympic champion for the second successive
:13:40. > :13:42.time. I am now officially the most accomplished amateur boxer ever. It
:13:43. > :13:47.is such an amazing feeling. It takes a lot to win an Olympic medal,
:13:48. > :13:53.especially to be able to do it twice. One of the most electrifying
:13:54. > :13:58.smiles in all of sport, beaming from ear to ear, a great performance from
:13:59. > :14:03.Nicola Adams, Gold medallist for the second successive time in the
:14:04. > :14:08.flyweight division. Anthony Joshua is with me, you were ringside for
:14:09. > :14:13.Nicola Adams, how pleased were you with? I have known her for years,
:14:14. > :14:17.watching her train and it is a struggle that not everyone gets to
:14:18. > :14:22.see. The glory, the victory and the smile on her face, she will shed a
:14:23. > :14:28.tear. I was not going to cry, but I felt that with her.
:14:29. > :14:34.Within moments you want Ritchie wasn't doing enough? I gauged her
:14:35. > :14:37.opponent's tactics, she's quite explosive. I was happy because I
:14:38. > :14:41.could see Nicola controlling the fight, jabbing between those
:14:42. > :14:46.moments. The opponent was ferocious and I was thinking, it's an Olympic
:14:47. > :14:51.final, of course you will have two people very close in styles, in
:14:52. > :14:56.ability. Nicola managed to pull through, control the battle. How
:14:57. > :15:01.much is her success down to the training, technique, but also her
:15:02. > :15:04.sheer enjoyment of it all? Her love of the sport? You deftly got it
:15:05. > :15:08.right, I was going to say that. Yeah, it's hard work, it's
:15:09. > :15:12.discipline, but everyone works hard, you have to enjoy what you do so it
:15:13. > :15:16.doesn't become work. Find a passion you can follow so when you are doing
:15:17. > :15:22.it it doesn't feel like work. Its regiment, it's routine. She's been
:15:23. > :15:24.doing it so many years and it with a smile on her face, that's what
:15:25. > :15:28.brings out the best in her. Tomorrow you will lose your reign as Olympic
:15:29. > :15:32.champion, occurs in the superiority wait final whatever happens there
:15:33. > :15:35.will be a new champion, Joe Joyce for Great Britain, what do you think
:15:36. > :15:45.his chances are of emulating you and then exclusive -- then Lennox Lewis
:15:46. > :15:49.and Vitali Klitschko. We've been on the server together since he was 18,
:15:50. > :15:53.19. I've seen him, the hard way, he's had it tough, stuck with it,
:15:54. > :15:57.had good times, got his chance to come to the GB squad. Now he's
:15:58. > :16:02.representing his country in the final. Look at Joe Joyce's story
:16:03. > :16:05.from grassroots to champion, I'm going to call him a champion because
:16:06. > :16:09.I believe you can achieve that, it'll be a phenomenal story, I got
:16:10. > :16:14.to from day one. You know what it takes to become Olympic champion,
:16:15. > :16:20.what do you need more than anything else? Your team, your team, these
:16:21. > :16:24.are the people that will keep you grounded, as I've always mentioned,
:16:25. > :16:27.sometimes your struggle is your greatest success, it's all good
:16:28. > :16:31.celebrating with all your family and friends, it's the people who are
:16:32. > :16:34.with you through the struggle. You need people that were always
:16:35. > :16:39.uplifted and ride with you until the walls fall. For me the greatest
:16:40. > :16:44.asset is your team. Jo has got that? Yeah, look up at him we took to
:16:45. > :16:47.2012, the team we brought here, the 14 qualified, he's got a phenomenal
:16:48. > :16:51.team around him, that's why I'm confident of him winning his medal
:16:52. > :16:55.tomorrow. It could be Great Britain's last medal of the Olympic
:16:56. > :17:02.Games, it'll take place at 7:15pm tomorrow evening.
:17:03. > :17:25.And again. Pushback. Touch. And again. Step. Good. And again.
:17:26. > :17:39.Joe Joyce is ready and wants to follow in the footsteps of Anthony
:17:40. > :17:43.Joshua, who is tall, it's not often I have to do an interview with the
:17:44. > :17:48.microphone up here. Later on BBC Two we'll be joining the gold medal
:17:49. > :17:51.football match between Brazil and Germany. Massive excitement around
:17:52. > :17:56.here, I suspect if goals are scored we will hear the cheer in Olympic
:17:57. > :17:59.Park. You'll certainly hear it in Copacabana even if it's being played
:18:00. > :18:04.at the Maracana, which is quite a way away, how is your evening? Every
:18:05. > :18:08.bar and Prescott is packed behind me at Copacabana. Myself and my guest
:18:09. > :18:13.in the studio, I work show you who they are, were thinking you may be
:18:14. > :18:17.needed a box for your interview. We've got a lot to fit in before
:18:18. > :18:22.Brazil and Germany kick off. We'll start with tae kwon do. It's been a
:18:23. > :18:29.great competition for Britain so far with a gold and silver. TJ Jones.
:18:30. > :18:33.Really euphoric. Lutalo Muhammad's silver committee was disconsolate
:18:34. > :18:37.after losing his final in the last second. Two more Britons in action,
:18:38. > :18:47.let's tell you how they've got on. We start with Bianca walked in, who
:18:48. > :18:54.got as far as the semifinal. -- Bianca Walkden. She was beaten 4-1.
:18:55. > :19:05.She'll go in the bronze medal match. We can show you as well... This is
:19:06. > :19:12.her losing. So the bronze medal match will take place sometime
:19:13. > :19:25.around 1am, we'll try to bring you that. Cho has gone out in the
:19:26. > :19:27.semifinal. Beaten by his opponent from Azerbaijan. It'll be a bronze
:19:28. > :19:41.medal match for him as well. Bianca will at 1am Camacho will go
:19:42. > :19:46.at 1:15am. We will show you what happened in the canoe sprint. It's
:19:47. > :19:50.been a good lake for Team GB for rowing and canoeing sprint. Liam
:19:51. > :19:54.Heath already had a silver in the double event, today he was going for
:19:55. > :19:59.gold in the men's single 100 metres, this is what happened.
:20:00. > :20:07.Very exciting here at the Lagoon. The men's 200 metres. In lane five,
:20:08. > :20:12.Liam Heath of Great Britain, the sizzling hot favourite for this
:20:13. > :20:16.event. The speed he paddles that is quite sensational, anyone who gets a
:20:17. > :20:20.good start is in with a shout out medals, we expect this to be close.
:20:21. > :20:26.Away they go, watch out for Liam Heath. Not the best of starts. Four
:20:27. > :20:32.from this side. He's looking to repeat Britain's success. Lane four.
:20:33. > :20:37.Beaumont of France has the lead. The closing stages is when he succumbed
:20:38. > :20:47.strong, but he's got work to do. 70 metres to go. Service closing stages
:20:48. > :20:54.where Liam Heath is strong. Liam Heath has the lead, another 15
:20:55. > :20:59.minutes to go -- 50 metres to go. Gold goes to Liam Heath. He came
:21:00. > :21:03.here as the favourite, he will leave Rio as the Olympic champion. And the
:21:04. > :21:08.most successful British Olympic paddler of all time. He has a gold,
:21:09. > :21:16.a silver and bronze to his collection. He leaps from seventh to
:21:17. > :21:20.the first in the tally of British paddlers. Sensational run. Out of
:21:21. > :21:25.the Olympic champion sound? Incredible, it's been in my mind
:21:26. > :21:28.every single day for the last four gears. I want to say a massive thank
:21:29. > :21:31.you to everyone who's been supporting me, friends, family,
:21:32. > :21:36.Johnny, my coach, Alex, all the support crew behind me. You've
:21:37. > :21:41.become the most successful Olympian when it comes to canoe sprint
:21:42. > :21:44.athletes for Great Britain. Exceeding Tim Robinson, what does it
:21:45. > :21:48.mean to you? I hadn't really thought about it. I glimpsed it on Facebook
:21:49. > :21:54.yesterday, try to keep away from my phone and stuff. -- Tim Brad
:21:55. > :22:03.I look to those guys. Tim is one of my idols. I remember watching him
:22:04. > :22:08.when was little. All the guys who have competed for Great Britain all
:22:09. > :22:12.the years. I still look up to them, I still feel I need to achieve what
:22:13. > :22:20.they've done. It's an absolutely incredible feeling.
:22:21. > :22:57.APPLAUSE CHEERING
:22:58. > :22:59.COMMENTATOR: Gold medal number 25 for Great Britain, great to see Liam
:23:00. > :23:08.Heath notching up another gold. I'm delighted to say Liam is in the
:23:09. > :23:13.studio along with John Scofield. 2-1 the silver medal with in the pairs.
:23:14. > :23:19.Doing what all mates do and taking the Mickey out of Liam. Someone's
:23:20. > :23:24.got to. Congratulations. That is when you said it's been in your mind
:23:25. > :23:27.every day for four years. Is it something you wake up thinking about
:23:28. > :23:33.and have lunch thinking about, go to bed thinking about? It's always in
:23:34. > :23:36.the back of your mind, not always at the forefront, you've always got it
:23:37. > :23:42.they're hedging you want to get you into training every day, crack of
:23:43. > :23:48.dawn. Always at the back of your mind. Any Olympian says it isn't,
:23:49. > :23:52.they are lying. It's always there. Is it the case if you go on holiday
:23:53. > :23:58.for two weeks, you raised your eyes, I don't know whether he's gone on
:23:59. > :24:04.holiday. Even then, can you put it to one side and it is if you're
:24:05. > :24:08.having a break? It's very important to have a rest, you've got to relax,
:24:09. > :24:16.recuperate your body. Every now and then. You do go away and you do have
:24:17. > :24:22.drinks, a few cakes, a few deserts. In the back of your mind you think
:24:23. > :24:26.you have to work this off, you have to pay for it. You do allow yourself
:24:27. > :24:31.those little breaks. When working as a pair when you came back off
:24:32. > :24:35.holiday, did you confess to each other how many jam tarts you'd had,
:24:36. > :24:40.how many beers? You can tell. LAUGHTER
:24:41. > :24:45.When you are a little bit skinnier, then round around the edges. You
:24:46. > :24:49.have those holidays. To make yourself want it. When you come
:24:50. > :24:54.back. Something like eating that cake on holiday, having beers, it's
:24:55. > :24:58.to make sure you are mentally in the right headspace to hammer the next
:24:59. > :25:02.however many weeks and achieve what you want to do. How have you been
:25:03. > :25:06.watching him the last couple of days? Pretty nerve wracking, the
:25:07. > :25:10.start didn't make it any easier to enjoy the racing, if you'd had a
:25:11. > :25:18.great start he would have been had all the way. As it was he had a
:25:19. > :25:23.confident start. It was amazing. Assess the race. We'll show it
:25:24. > :25:27.again. You can talk us through. It's the second time I've seen it now. I
:25:28. > :25:32.normally walk away. I got out the gate really good, this time, bit of
:25:33. > :25:36.a headwind, it was going to be a longer race. I wanted to pace it
:25:37. > :25:42.more. Keep the speed down on the last bit. Which has been a strength
:25:43. > :25:47.this year in K2 and K-1. This point you have no clue where anyone is,
:25:48. > :25:55.all you know is how far down you are. The boys change colour. When
:25:56. > :25:59.you hit the last 50, I've been able to give it so much more towards the
:26:00. > :26:04.line this season, really push. In your head as you do that you are
:26:05. > :26:07.counting strokes? Yeah. It's something I've done ever since I
:26:08. > :26:12.started. It's something subconscious as well. I'll be paddling along, all
:26:13. > :26:20.of a sudden I've got a number in my head. What I've been paddling. It's
:26:21. > :26:27.like 86-90 strokes down the race, you hit 45, you are halfway, 60-65,
:26:28. > :26:31.50 metres left. Then the start you hit it hard, for eight strokes, I'm
:26:32. > :26:34.not breeding the first eight strokes, after that, you start
:26:35. > :26:38.getting the oxygen in, then setting up the rest of the race. Is that how
:26:39. > :26:45.you are coached? Do you count as well? I don't count as well as him.
:26:46. > :26:51.When you both get out do you different numbers? You do compare.
:26:52. > :26:57.It's normally a competition between my head and the GPS. My technology.
:26:58. > :27:00.A gymnastics coach thought one of the successes for Britain in a
:27:01. > :27:03.variety of sports was the gym culture we live in at the moment
:27:04. > :27:07.over the last five years, a lot of people say it's nothing to be a
:27:08. > :27:11.barrister back, going to the gym, taking selfies, pumping weights. Do
:27:12. > :27:17.you think it helps? Training in the gym? That... That we have the
:27:18. > :27:21.culture around it, that we now have a fitness culture in the country to
:27:22. > :27:26.a certain extent? Yeah, I think it helps a little bit. Certainly it
:27:27. > :27:30.makes it acceptable to be a certain size, especially for the girls in
:27:31. > :27:35.our squad, to be tall, athletic, muscular and strong, that's letting
:27:36. > :27:40.more girls coming to the sport. It's not just a male preserve. You do
:27:41. > :27:46.chin-ups with 90 kilograms do you? Yeah, little bit over that, but
:27:47. > :27:50.yeah. That's roughly doing a chin up with me holding on to you. Don't
:27:51. > :27:55.worry. I haven't got it set up in the studio! Hanging from the lights.
:27:56. > :28:00.That's how you get strength? It's one key thing we've been working on.
:28:01. > :28:04.Everyone thinks you paddle with your arms, I kind of disagree, that is a
:28:05. > :28:08.big connection between you and the water. I tend to use my back more,
:28:09. > :28:13.the legs and the trunk, to generate power. That I put down through the
:28:14. > :28:17.puddles, through the boat into the water, to push the forwards. We've
:28:18. > :28:25.been key on the chin-ups. It's just one chin, it's not multiple. Just
:28:26. > :28:30.once. I stand there, do it, drop down. It's still more than most of
:28:31. > :28:34.us can do. No wrecks with 90 kilograms tonight, you can eat and
:28:35. > :28:37.drink whatever you want and not feel guilty about it, and enjoy what you
:28:38. > :28:44.do in the future. Congratulations. Thank you very much. Thank you.
:28:45. > :28:49.Maybe I'll try a chin up later. Let's talk football. Down there they
:28:50. > :28:54.are obsessed about one gold medal in particular. That is the Brazil men's
:28:55. > :29:00.football team winning Olympic gold. An Olympic gold they have never won.
:29:01. > :29:03.And in the back of their mind is the 7-1 defeat to Germany in the World
:29:04. > :29:07.Cup semifinal from a couple of years ago. Germany the opponents in this
:29:08. > :29:11.final. Here's what happened in the first half.
:29:12. > :29:30.COMMENTATOR: It's a decent effort against the frame of the goal by
:29:31. > :29:42.Julian Brandt, who almost did silence the Maracana. Here comes
:29:43. > :29:48.Neymar. It's in the back of the net! The darling of Brazil provides the
:29:49. > :29:53.opening goal. And you can probably hear the roof on the Maracana is
:29:54. > :30:04.starting to reverberate. Brazil ahead. 27 minutes. What a goal.
:30:05. > :30:08.Truly outstanding from Neymar. The goalkeeper can't get anywhere near
:30:09. > :30:12.it, it's the power and precision in off the crossbar. He couldn't get
:30:13. > :30:18.it. Couldn't strike it any better, Neymar. What a super goal. To open
:30:19. > :30:21.up what has been a very, very entertaining opening half an hour in
:30:22. > :30:29.this Olympic gold medal match. What a goal that is from Neymar.
:30:30. > :30:45.Against the frame of the goal again! Sven Bender flicked it goal bound
:30:46. > :30:51.but could not score. So that is how the first half finish, this is live
:30:52. > :30:55.now, it is still 1-0 to Brazil, there is a whole country on
:30:56. > :31:03.tenterhooks, let us join our commentators. Since falling behind,
:31:04. > :31:06.Germany have had the better of the possession, some wonderful chances,
:31:07. > :31:16.they will feel that they ought to be level. This partisan Brazilian
:31:17. > :31:25.crowd, they know that this game is far from done. The referee in a good
:31:26. > :31:33.position there. I think if Brazil are to go on and win this, Augusto
:31:34. > :31:36.is the key, he dictates the temple, he is always available for his
:31:37. > :31:41.team-mates when they are in possession. I think he made a
:31:42. > :31:49.mistake there but he got away with it. If there is one big difference
:31:50. > :31:59.between a senior side and an under 23 site, it is the choices they make
:32:00. > :32:05.a crucial times. Perhaps his decision was not the best to try and
:32:06. > :32:15.go down a Brazilian cul-de-sac. Here is Gabriel Barbosa. His decision was
:32:16. > :32:21.not the best. His -- he got away with that. Sule. Brilliant. Breaking
:32:22. > :32:28.up the play, freeing up Gabriel Barbosa, but he wants to get back on
:32:29. > :32:33.his left foot, could he go down the line, try and take Sule a run.
:32:34. > :32:44.Becoming a little frenetic in the past few minutes. When Brazil get
:32:45. > :32:50.into the final third, the expectation is buzzing around them
:32:51. > :32:55.are,. With Germany get into the Brazilian final third, you can hear
:32:56. > :33:05.screams and shouts of horror and fear among the Brazilian supporters.
:33:06. > :33:13.-- Maracana. I am sure those emotions are mirrored up and down
:33:14. > :33:17.this country. Here is Neymar. Could not find the intended target and
:33:18. > :33:30.Germany again break down a Brazilian move. Good tackling. 70 No emerges
:33:31. > :33:47.with that. The tackles flying them, superb to watch -- 79-macro. --
:33:48. > :33:51.Walace. Many of these players prepare a week in week out, they
:33:52. > :33:56.have a competitive league fixture and for them it is things like the
:33:57. > :34:01.World Cup and the Euros or the copper America that matter. You
:34:02. > :34:05.could be forgiven for thinking that this was not the focus of every
:34:06. > :34:12.single player that we have watched tonight a gold medal match matters
:34:13. > :34:21.enormously to those at there -- Copa America. They want their countries
:34:22. > :34:28.to win tonight. Neither Germany nor Brazil have ever won a gold medal.
:34:29. > :34:31.They have won nine World Cups between them, this is the only
:34:32. > :34:41.significant international crown neither can burst. -- boast. Quite
:34:42. > :34:48.content at the moment, Brazil, dropping very deep, allowing
:34:49. > :34:52.pressure to be built upon them and Germany can be taken advantage of,
:34:53. > :35:03.with all the possession that they are getting. Here is Toljan, plenty
:35:04. > :35:15.forward from Germany, that was not good by Sven Bender, well tidied up
:35:16. > :35:19.by Walace. It is only when you see the close-ups of some of these
:35:20. > :35:37.players that you remember how useful they actually are. -- -- youthful.
:35:38. > :35:41.Meyer. Sven Bender. Toljan. There is the equaliser that Germany have
:35:42. > :35:46.threatened for so long. The captain of Germany cancels out the goal from
:35:47. > :35:51.the captain of Brazil and if the warning signs were not apparent
:35:52. > :35:56.before, they are most evident now, they deserved equaliser and they
:35:57. > :36:03.have silenced the Maracana! It has certainly been coming, given away
:36:04. > :36:08.from Marquinhos and as soon as Sven Bender picks up the ball, you can
:36:09. > :36:12.see Toljan is on the move, always looking to get forward and he has
:36:13. > :36:19.the presence of mind and awareness, just to pull it back in front of the
:36:20. > :36:26.Brazilian defence and Max Meyer, real quality finish from him to
:36:27. > :36:30.place it beyond 81-macro win gold. Superb finish. 200 billion
:36:31. > :36:43.Brazilians are slumped in their various chairs -- Weverton. You can
:36:44. > :36:48.probably hear the German supporters. Since they fell behind, Germany,
:36:49. > :36:52.they have not got swept away by the incredible noise in the stadium.
:36:53. > :36:57.They have not sunk in their belief that there was a way back into this
:36:58. > :37:02.and they have merited their equaliser. They continue to pass an
:37:03. > :37:06.probe. Brazil have aided them in some respects. They have dropped
:37:07. > :37:12.deep, and allow the pressure to come upon them. But they have had the
:37:13. > :37:17.chances, Germany, in the game. We talked about hitting the upright of
:37:18. > :37:22.the goal on some occasions, Weverton has been called to make a few good
:37:23. > :37:32.saves. It has been coming, excellent finish as well from Max Meyer. Sven
:37:33. > :37:42.Bender, he was clean, but Neymar caught him. -- Lars Bender. I am not
:37:43. > :37:50.sure if it is after the challenge goes in by Neymar. He may have
:37:51. > :37:53.fallen awkwardly there. The emotions have changed dramatically. There was
:37:54. > :37:58.a carnival atmosphere in the Maracana, Mexican waves breaking
:37:59. > :38:06.out, cheering, singing, joy of unbridled... But the character of
:38:07. > :38:12.this Germany side and the quality of that has been apparent ever since
:38:13. > :38:18.they fell behind. We said we had a game on. We certainly have got. We
:38:19. > :38:20.have had an excellent game, the first 60 minutes has been
:38:21. > :38:29.outstanding. Brazil started very well. We spoke about Gabriel
:38:30. > :38:37.Barbosa, Luan, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior... His knee goes
:38:38. > :38:42.underneath him a little bit. They have got to try to get those players
:38:43. > :38:46.into the game more. They are so dynamic will stop great movement,
:38:47. > :38:55.great pace, they were causing Germany problems. They had such a
:38:56. > :39:01.procession of opportunities in the semifinal against Honduras. We were
:39:02. > :39:04.able to see their full repertoire. Germany have defended brilliantly
:39:05. > :39:12.and I do not just mean that four defenders, I mean those in front as
:39:13. > :39:16.well. A great effort from range, Augusto has spent much of his time
:39:17. > :39:21.tidying up the back, but when released he is not a bad player
:39:22. > :39:27.either. He has been the best player for Brazil, breaking up play when
:39:28. > :39:30.Germany have been attacking. He does have the ability to pick out a pass
:39:31. > :39:37.when he gets into advanced positions. An excellent strike.
:39:38. > :39:41.Germany have had double the amount of the Thames on the Brazilian goal
:39:42. > :39:51.than the Brazilians have had on the German goal. -- of the attempts. The
:39:52. > :39:58.statistics bear out what your gut feeling was about this match. Cannot
:39:59. > :40:04.remember too many attempts for Brazil, it took just one moment of
:40:05. > :40:10.genius from a free kick for Neymar. Perhaps just one volley that Luan
:40:11. > :40:13.hit straighter but I cannot think of another one. That was the only
:40:14. > :40:24.chance they have created from open play. Luan, Gabriel Barbosa. The man
:40:25. > :40:46.again. Half an hour ago, you could not hear
:40:47. > :40:52.yourself think now you can hear some of the shouts from the players on
:40:53. > :40:58.the pitch. Anxiety has taken over. With that anxiety on the pitch, they
:40:59. > :41:03.have forced the patched -- Brazil are trying to force the passes.
:41:04. > :41:11.Whereas the Germans, much more on an even keel, much more precision with
:41:12. > :41:26.their passing. That is why they are getting the joy, Germany. Renato
:41:27. > :41:34.Augusto tries to provide it! Apologies, it was Gabriel Jesus. I
:41:35. > :41:39.think it is a goal kick. A super run from Renato Augusto. A brilliant run
:41:40. > :41:44.from Gabriel Jesus, wonderful defending from Toljan, the man who
:41:45. > :41:53.set up the German goal. It certainly should have been a corner. Lars
:41:54. > :41:58.Bender is still struggling. That is an emotion of someone who knows he
:41:59. > :42:06.will have to give in to the injury. It is a bad one, he knows. He is
:42:07. > :42:09.distraught, absolutely distraught. If you were not aware how much this
:42:10. > :42:15.match means to the players out there, the fact that Lars Bender is
:42:16. > :42:20.practically in tears that he will have to come off the field, tells
:42:21. > :42:29.how much he feels that he is going to miss out on something special.
:42:30. > :42:33.Both Lars Bender and Sven Bender have had serious injuries in their
:42:34. > :42:46.career. You hope it is not that serious. Lars Bender has a wealth of
:42:47. > :42:53.Champions League experience. This is a huge occasion in his career, with
:42:54. > :42:57.that gesture to the sideline, a change is imminent. He has got to
:42:58. > :43:06.come off. Signalling again to the touchline. He tried to give Germany
:43:07. > :43:11.the lead. Shot his block early. But through ball is good and the flag
:43:12. > :43:16.stays down and here is Gabriel Barbosa trying to work an opening,
:43:17. > :43:19.but excellent defending. They thought he was offside there, he is
:43:20. > :43:27.looking to be assistant on the near side. They have to get Lars Bender
:43:28. > :43:42.off now. Neymar skipping away him centrally. The change is imminent.
:43:43. > :43:55.It is Promel coming on. 21 years old. It is the fourth time he has
:43:56. > :44:00.come on as a substitute and he is very much like for like replacement
:44:01. > :44:11.for the bitterly disappointed and tearful Lars Bender. Coaching the
:44:12. > :44:17.midpoint of the second half, it is 1-1. A match that has been
:44:18. > :44:27.everything, that all the pre-match hype was promising it would be. Two
:44:28. > :44:32.very evenly matched sides. Plenty to admire from both. And we are locked
:44:33. > :44:54.at one all. Still in play despite Brandt's best
:44:55. > :44:57.efforts. This was the moment. He knew he was off-site, Gabriel
:44:58. > :45:06.Barbosa, this is why he was looking at the assistant. Germany again.
:45:07. > :45:07.Flicked away by Walace. Barbosa gives chase but Timo Horn is safely
:45:08. > :45:33.out of his goal. In it goes to Neymar. That was a
:45:34. > :45:37.flying challenge. Brazil have taken the free kick to hurriedly, they
:45:38. > :45:47.weren't really set for that. Here come Germany.
:45:48. > :45:52.Guilty a few times, Brazil, of playing the occasion, not the
:45:53. > :46:01.football match. Here is Brandt again. Now Jeremy Toljan goes for
:46:02. > :46:06.glory. And drags it wide. He had better options, didn't he, Toljan.
:46:07. > :46:11.Good movement from Brandt, moving all the way from the right-hand
:46:12. > :46:15.side. This is the goal again. Toljan with an excellent pull-back to pick
:46:16. > :46:22.out Max Meyer. It was the controlled finish as well, allowing the ball to
:46:23. > :46:34.come across, it the floor. He knows full well he is placing it away from
:46:35. > :46:39.Weverton. He's taken off Barbosa and brings an Anderson. They play
:46:40. > :46:45.Manchester United attempted to sign for big money a couple of transfer
:46:46. > :46:54.windows ago. He only makes the bench today, such is the depth of quality
:46:55. > :46:58.in this Brazilian side. Here is Luan, it goes towards Anderson, who
:46:59. > :47:05.plays most of his club football wide on the right-hand side, where gone
:47:06. > :47:09.now. So often they got into this position, Brazil, particularly after
:47:10. > :47:22.getting the goal. All of the moves have broken down, Germany have
:47:23. > :47:25.nullified any threat from Brazil. Walace, now Douglas Santos. Al
:47:26. > :47:44.Cristo. -- they win a corner. It's significant
:47:45. > :47:48.how often Renato Augusto is the pivot. He's had an excellent game.
:47:49. > :47:53.He senses when they have been under the cosh and attacks have been
:47:54. > :47:57.breaking down in the final third, he is deciding to step in a little bit
:47:58. > :48:00.more, try to be more creative himself. By and large he has been
:48:01. > :48:09.used as the holding midfielder who has broken up play and said the
:48:10. > :48:15.attacks going forward. First Renato Augusto, now Neymar, tries to get
:48:16. > :48:30.the Maracana buzzing once more. Off the head for another corner. Neymar
:48:31. > :48:38.will deliver again. My Kenya squad a small touch on it.
:48:39. > :48:52.Luan couldn't control it. Away by Toljan. Douglas Costa, that's neat
:48:53. > :48:57.and tidy. Neymar... On it goes. Could that have been an miss timed
:48:58. > :49:12.challenge in the box? The appeals weren't as vehement as perhaps we
:49:13. > :49:21.thought they might have been. On the overlap from Augusto's challenge. He
:49:22. > :49:37.bounced up immediately, didn't he, Nicholas Sule. Good first touch from
:49:38. > :49:44.Luan. It is Sule, good decision from the referee, who was in a really
:49:45. > :49:52.good position. He could easily have been fooled by that. Dare I say it,
:49:53. > :49:58.even Neymar surely can't think about shooting from here, can he? Tell you
:49:59. > :50:05.what, if this goes in, it's worthy of winning any match on any day.
:50:06. > :50:12.Whatever's at stake. Neymar sensibly flicks it in and the header is bad
:50:13. > :50:15.but Timo Horn stretches out. I didn't think Neymar could strike it
:50:16. > :50:20.from there. You couldn't put it past him. Superb opener from him. I think
:50:21. > :50:26.he knew he was out of range. A little stand up to the far post.
:50:27. > :50:32.Excellent run. Trying to get his header across goal but it was too
:50:33. > :50:36.much height. A little bit easy for Timo Horn to deal with. Much better
:50:37. > :50:44.from Brazil the last five minutes. Coming back into the game.
:50:45. > :50:49.This is Germany, reacting superbly to going one behind. Brazil have
:50:50. > :50:59.reacted superbly to Germany getting the equaliser. Sule bringing it
:51:00. > :51:04.forward for Germany. It's a decent ball in towards the run of Max
:51:05. > :51:22.Meyer. Luan can't control it. Sven Bender.
:51:23. > :51:26.Germany trying to make another change. Nils Petersen is warmed up
:51:27. > :51:47.and ready. The Brazilian supporters whistling
:51:48. > :51:53.every time Germany are on the ball, cheering when their team wins it
:51:54. > :51:58.back. It's an awkward one but well dealt with by Timo Horn. He's got so
:51:59. > :52:03.much pace, Gabriel Jesus, when he gets in full flight he is very
:52:04. > :52:11.difficult to stop. It was he that committed the foul. This will give
:52:12. > :52:20.the opportunity for the German manager to bring an Nils Petersen.
:52:21. > :52:24.Maybe Selke is the man coming off and it's like for like change. In
:52:25. > :52:29.the last game, the semifinal against Nigeria, he went with two up top and
:52:30. > :52:33.the two of them combined for the decisive second goal. This time it
:52:34. > :52:40.is a like-for-like alteration. Excellent finisher, as we saw in the
:52:41. > :52:43.semi, he was floating around the far post waiting for an opportunity. He
:52:44. > :52:50.didn't get too many but he finished it so well. Gabriel Jesus might have
:52:51. > :52:55.committed the foul but he is the one who has stayed on the Texans. Now
:52:56. > :53:02.requiring treatment. He was struggling prior to that. I hope
:53:03. > :53:10.it's only a bit of cramp from his point of view. There was contact,
:53:11. > :53:21.though. That's Manchester city's ?27 million man, Gabriel Jesus. This was
:53:22. > :53:26.Neymar threading it through for Luan before. You can see Sule pulling
:53:27. > :53:33.away the challenge. Luan going down. Good awareness from Sule, when he
:53:34. > :53:38.goes to ground he knows that any contact with Luan committees going
:53:39. > :53:42.over. I think he knew, himself, the referee was in a good position.
:53:43. > :53:48.Immediately bounced back up. Good refereeing. Now then, on the
:53:49. > :53:53.counter. Here is Neymar, look at that bursting run through for
:53:54. > :54:00.Anderson. Good tackle. Cost and in the nick of time. Did he wait too
:54:01. > :54:06.long? Yes, you did. Brilliant recovery run from Klosterman but
:54:07. > :54:11.that is where Germany get caught out, when they sense the fullbacks
:54:12. > :54:17.forward. Neymar goes for gold. A couple of feet beyond. I think he's
:54:18. > :54:34.got a corner. Set himself brilliantly, Neymar. The turn on
:54:35. > :54:41.Bender. Brilliant pace from Anderson, what a recovery run that
:54:42. > :54:45.is. Excellent from Klosterman. He claimed a corner, Neymar, it was a
:54:46. > :54:50.goal kick. Germany have made a real hash kick of getting it out from the
:54:51. > :54:53.back. Here's Neymar again. You asked if Neymar took too long he should
:54:54. > :54:57.have continued with the momentum going forward, took the strike on.
:54:58. > :55:01.Just by delaying that strike it allowed Klosterman to get back. Full
:55:02. > :55:05.credit to him, we've seen when defenders get in those positions
:55:06. > :55:09.they don't have the awareness to TrackBack with that sort of pace.
:55:10. > :55:13.Great defending from Klosterman but I think it was a really good chance
:55:14. > :55:19.for Anderson to take the strike an early. Philip Anderson, one of the
:55:20. > :55:29.senior members of the squad as well. -- Felipe Anderson. Straight down
:55:30. > :55:32.the throat of Timo Horn. Starting to fashionable one or two openings,
:55:33. > :55:37.Brazil. They are coming right back into the game, Brazil, never quite
:55:38. > :55:45.set. Difficult to strike with any power. Half chance... It's bubbling
:55:46. > :55:54.up nicely for a dramatic crescendo, this game. It's been a brilliant
:55:55. > :56:01.gold medal match, it really has. In 11 minutes plus added time to go.
:56:02. > :56:06.Extra time and penalties could be looming, but not if Brazil have it
:56:07. > :56:11.their way. Gabriel Jesus never got the connection he was after. He
:56:12. > :56:19.didn't, great awareness, brilliant touch from Felipe Anderson. Jesus
:56:20. > :56:20.just didn't get hold of it, did he? Perhaps just rushed the striker a
:56:21. > :56:40.little bit. Gabriel Jesus and Grischa Promel in
:56:41. > :56:51.a tussle. For that he gets a yellow card. Looks like it might break for
:56:52. > :56:57.Peterson for a moment. Toljan has been turned. The referee waves play
:56:58. > :57:01.on. Here's Luan. Gabriel Jesus in a heap again but play goes on and
:57:02. > :57:06.Neymar can't get it out from under his feet. Tries to bring in Felipe
:57:07. > :57:10.Anderson. It does reach Felipe Anderson, Neymar on the far side
:57:11. > :57:15.can't reach it, Luan keeps it alive. Klosterman. He took too long and
:57:16. > :57:20.Felipe Anderson almost stole in. Brazil coming to life, excellent
:57:21. > :57:27.play from Luan. Couldn't get the ball out of his feet, Neymar, to get
:57:28. > :57:31.the strike away. Good awareness. Felipe Anderson, lovely little stand
:57:32. > :57:39.up ball to the far post. Klosterman a little bit slow to react to that.
:57:40. > :57:47.They can send it, the Brazilian supporters inside the Maracana. --
:57:48. > :57:51.they can sense it. After a period in which they were second best and not
:57:52. > :57:54.fashioning chances, they are now creating them aren't looking fitter
:57:55. > :58:00.and stronger of the two sets of players. -- and are looking fitter
:58:01. > :58:07.and stronger. Being driven on by the crowd. Walace with the header. Horne
:58:08. > :58:09.gathers it up. They are feeding off the noise and the spirit of those
:58:10. > :58:20.within the stadium. Nils Petersen. Took it down well.
:58:21. > :58:42.Brings in Gnabry. Klosterman. Sule. Listen to the whistling because
:58:43. > :58:52.Germany are in possession of the ball.
:58:53. > :59:03.That's particularly wasteful and not like Germany. Good shape from
:59:04. > :59:08.Brazil. This is the challenge from Bender on Jesus. Another yellow
:59:09. > :59:12.card. We mentioned earlier he has committed a lot of fouls, Sven
:59:13. > :59:16.Bender, tonight. Along with his brother before he went off injured.
:59:17. > :59:23.I'm surprised it's taken so long for him to go in the book. Three German
:59:24. > :59:29.players on yellow cards. Two Brazilians.
:59:30. > :59:33.We're getting ever closer to this match being settled in extra time.
:59:34. > :59:47.Maybe even from the penalty spot. Gabriel Jesus is pointing to a cut
:59:48. > :59:54.on his forearm and saying that he was fouled.
:59:55. > :00:03.It really has had everything, it has been competitive, dramatic, noisy.
:00:04. > :00:08.There have been periods for Germany have been in control and you can
:00:09. > :00:12.almost hear the screams and worry among the Brazilian supporters and
:00:13. > :00:17.periods when Brazil have been in command and the noise has been
:00:18. > :00:24.deafening. It has had all the air and flow of an Olympic gold medal
:00:25. > :00:29.match and it looks as though we are going to get an extra half an hour
:00:30. > :00:35.of it. It has been a superb game. Brazil in the first 20 or 25 minutes
:00:36. > :00:49.were excellent but Germany have come right back into the game. Just over
:00:50. > :00:52.six minutes to go. And the Maracana cramped capacity. Millions around
:00:53. > :01:00.Brazil glued to their television sets. Hoping above any other gold
:01:01. > :01:11.medal that their country has won, that their football team can prise
:01:12. > :01:17.one from the hands of Germany. The side who knocked them out of the
:01:18. > :01:24.World Cup two years ago, a World Cup Brazil were expected and wanted to
:01:25. > :01:25.win more than perhaps any of the five previous ones they participated
:01:26. > :01:44.in and won. There is 21-macro. Now Neymar, a
:01:45. > :01:57.good ball, time for Zeca to pick someone out, but Matthaus got to
:01:58. > :02:00.with an outstanding tackle -- Douglas Santos. Three German players
:02:01. > :02:10.advancing, they have worked it well, here is Petersen and now Meyer drags
:02:11. > :02:16.it. Really good run centrally. Excellent movement from Petersen. He
:02:17. > :02:24.did not quite fancy hitting the cross with his left foot, good
:02:25. > :02:30.breakaway for Germany. You can almost hear several thousand screams
:02:31. > :02:34.there as Meyer hit the shot. Never quite set himself. That is the
:02:35. > :02:40.threat that they do carry, Brazil have continuously sent more and more
:02:41. > :02:46.bodies forward, but they do leave themselves exposed. There was a
:02:47. > :02:51.chance, could Petersen have crossed it for Promel? Did well to get it
:02:52. > :02:57.back to Max Meyer, always stretching, could not quite get the
:02:58. > :03:05.shot on target. They should be OK to continue. Look at the concern on the
:03:06. > :03:07.faces of the Brazilian fans and the joy on the face of the German fan
:03:08. > :03:25.next to him. On the penultimate day of these
:03:26. > :03:30.wonderful Olympic Games, and occasion that the fits the
:03:31. > :03:41.significance of the gold medal match. 80,000 in the Maracana, the
:03:42. > :03:46.two most successful footballing nations on earth competing, albeit
:03:47. > :03:51.at the under 23 level. And although they have one macro every other
:03:52. > :03:57.major honour in the game, neither can boast a gold medal -- won. It
:03:58. > :04:05.looks as though we are heading towards extra time to settle it.
:04:06. > :04:09.Neymar, blocked off by Promel. There was a late challenge, the referee
:04:10. > :04:16.allows it to go because Germany are still in possession. Out came
:04:17. > :04:26.Weverton. Good goalkeeping from Weverton. Hearts in mouth stuff for
:04:27. > :04:43.Brazil there. Weverton was alert to danger. Sven Bender. Sule.
:04:44. > :05:02.Marquinhos and now 20 Micheal Martin. -- Lukas Klostermann and now
:05:03. > :05:07.Gnabry. Brazilian supporters cannot look when they get to the edge of
:05:08. > :05:17.the penalty area. Here they come to the edge of the penalty area now.
:05:18. > :05:24.Thumped away by Zeca. That is a free kick in the centre circle and
:05:25. > :05:30.another yellow card is on its way. Gabriel Jesus has been in the wars
:05:31. > :05:37.in the second half, but he keeps riding it out, this time it is Sule
:05:38. > :05:43.in the notebook. Gabriel Jesus is very brave. He is always prepared to
:05:44. > :05:47.go in for the challenges. He has had a rough path, a lot of challenges,
:05:48. > :05:52.but he is still prepared to get up and run with the ball. It is a
:05:53. > :06:05.breakaway there and I think that Sule knew that. Brazil have made one
:06:06. > :06:15.change so far, Germany have made two, one of them forced after Lars
:06:16. > :06:19.Bender picked up an injury. Here is Felipe Anderson, the only Brazilian
:06:20. > :06:33.substitute on the field, his cross was a teaser. Walace Souza Silva
:06:34. > :06:38.headset. It has taking something special from that range. You have
:06:39. > :06:46.got Zeca getting forward, continued the flow of the attack. 79-macro
:06:47. > :06:51.decided to go for glory, poor strike. -- Walace Souza Silva. We
:06:52. > :07:00.are approaching stoppage time, at the end of 90 pulsating minutes in
:07:01. > :07:08.the Maracana. Here is Felipe Anderson. And now Neymar. And you
:07:09. > :07:15.can see what he was thinking, but he is not going to get to that, it is
:07:16. > :07:20.Luan. Three minutes of added time, is there to be the ultimate twist in
:07:21. > :07:29.the tail or will it be 30 extra minutes for a group of tiring
:07:30. > :07:33.players? It is normally in these later stages of the game with those
:07:34. > :07:38.tired legs that you get the mistakes that do lead to goals. I am sure
:07:39. > :07:43.there will be more chances in this game as we do progress, if we do get
:07:44. > :07:50.extra time and it will be largely down to the tired legs on the pitch.
:07:51. > :08:03.It is not as hot as some days have been in Rio. It is still in the low
:08:04. > :08:14.20s. Sticky and despite the drizzle, it is energy sapping. These players
:08:15. > :08:18.are going to have to dig deep and we know there is going to be another
:08:19. > :08:27.half and hour of action before this game is settled, it seems. It looks
:08:28. > :08:38.as though Germany are quite happy to take it to extra time now. A good
:08:39. > :08:51.run for 75 by pro, you have to say, but he dealt with it with great
:08:52. > :08:56.dexterity -- Timo Horn. So often you see goalkeepers in that position,
:08:57. > :09:07.come out and panic. The duo he was under pressure, but calmly played it
:09:08. > :09:13.out. I think it was Sule in the end. Into the final minute of added time
:09:14. > :09:17.at the end of the gold medal match at the Maracana. Brazil went ahead
:09:18. > :09:25.with a goal from Neymar, cancelled out with a gold from Max Meyer. Here
:09:26. > :09:31.is Felipe Anderson. Now Neymar, deflection, corner, it is their --
:09:32. > :09:36.is there to be one last chance? Again he decided to take the strike
:09:37. > :09:41.on, Neymar. Very difficult strike to take, so many boys in front of him.
:09:42. > :09:48.I think it was Douglas Santos who made a great run. I think he should
:09:49. > :09:54.have picked him out. Neymar drives it in, easily by Petersen, to a
:09:55. > :10:02.chorus of groans from thousands in the Maracana. And the referee brings
:10:03. > :10:07.the 90 minutes to its conclusion. We are to have extra time, Brazil
:10:08. > :10:11.leading at half-time through a Neymar free kick special, Germany
:10:12. > :10:16.merited an equaliser and it was no surprise when it came, the German
:10:17. > :10:21.captain, Max Meyer, providing it, and it will be extra time that
:10:22. > :10:26.settles or perhaps even penalties, the gold medal match. It is
:10:27. > :10:30.obviously a very nervous Maracana, and very nervous, but cabana behind
:10:31. > :10:35.me as well, very quiet, not many people around, they are cramming
:10:36. > :10:40.into the bars and restaurants to watch the game. They yearn for this
:10:41. > :10:45.Olympic gold medal in the men's football. Whilst they get themselves
:10:46. > :10:51.ready for extra time, we are going to hear from Tom Daley. Yesterday he
:10:52. > :10:56.had a great heat in the diving as he finished first in the 10m platform,
:10:57. > :11:02.to go into the semi-finals, however today it all went run as in those
:11:03. > :11:05.semi-finals he finished 18 out of 18. He was upset afterwards
:11:06. > :11:15.understandably as he spoke to Helen Skelton. We can see what it means to
:11:16. > :11:21.you. What happened? I have worked so hard these past four years to get to
:11:22. > :11:24.this point. Yesterday, I got an Olympic record, the highest scorer
:11:25. > :11:30.in an Olympic Games and today it was not there to be and that is what
:11:31. > :11:34.diving does sometimes. I truly am heartbroken. I feel like I am in
:11:35. > :11:38.peak physical condition and I could really go out there and could have
:11:39. > :11:42.won tonight. It is really hard to accept how it went today. Your
:11:43. > :11:49.team-mates would argue that this is the most stressful sport, the most
:11:50. > :11:52.high pressure and add to that, your profile and the expectation, what is
:11:53. > :11:54.going through your head when you're on that board? I am completely
:11:55. > :11:59.present in the moment, enjoying each moment as I get to do it. Today,
:12:00. > :12:04.things were not clicking. I was given it my all and I was so up for
:12:05. > :12:08.it, training beforehand was good, in the competition it fell apart. Those
:12:09. > :12:13.other guys today did absolutely amazing and I am so happy with the
:12:14. > :12:17.way that the whole of Team GB have done. I am so proud to be part of
:12:18. > :12:23.the team and how everyone else has done so amazingly well. I just
:12:24. > :12:26.wanted to be able to stand on top of the podium and replicate something
:12:27. > :12:32.last night. It was not meant to be. Another four years of hard work to
:12:33. > :12:38.come. It did not feel any different, I felt good in myself. I guess my
:12:39. > :12:44.mind and body were not connecting. I knew that I had a shot at the last
:12:45. > :12:50.I'd still if I really went after it. I needed 102, basically 9.5 and
:12:51. > :12:55.tense and I give it by all but it did not happen. It did happen last
:12:56. > :13:02.week. You have got yourself one bronze medal. It is not a right of.
:13:03. > :13:06.Pretty successful. I am really happy. After 2012, I came away with
:13:07. > :13:12.a bronze medal and so far here, we got our bronze medal in the
:13:13. > :13:20.synchronised diving. I wanted to get that Olympic gold medal. The result
:13:21. > :13:25.was another four years. Tokyo is definitely on your sites?
:13:26. > :13:29.Definitely. Even more than ever now. You have done so much for the sport
:13:30. > :13:35.and you have an Army of fans, I can see why you are upset, but do not be
:13:36. > :13:39.too hard on yourself. It is heartbreaking. It is the Olympic
:13:40. > :13:45.Games, those five rings on the wall mean so much to me, to be not in the
:13:46. > :13:52.final, to get the shot to go for the medal, it is heartbreaking. It is a
:13:53. > :13:56.good story for Tokyo. You know films, it gives us a better
:13:57. > :14:02.narrative. Exactly. I will give it my best shot and work even harder
:14:03. > :14:14.than ever before. And my list of athletes I want to hug at these
:14:15. > :14:20.Olympics get longer. The winner was Aisen Chen who won by over 15
:14:21. > :14:21.points. The Mexican took the silver medal and the American took the
:14:22. > :14:42.bronze medal. They are still getting ready in the
:14:43. > :14:46.Maracana for extra time. We're going to bring that to you live. And then
:14:47. > :14:57.later we'll all be watching this man.
:14:58. > :15:04.# You can run on for a long time, run on for a long time
:15:05. > :15:10.# Run-on for a long time, sooner or later going to cut you down
:15:11. > :15:15.# Sooner or later got to cut you down
:15:16. > :15:21.# Go tell that long tongue liar, go tell that midnight Rider
:15:22. > :15:31.# Tell them that God's going to cut them down
:15:32. > :15:38.#. Mo Farah goes for the double double in the men's 5000 metres at
:15:39. > :15:42.1:30am. They are ready to go in the Maracana. Brazil want this to be a
:15:43. > :15:47.very positive 30 minutes they can get their hands on Olympic gold.
:15:48. > :15:52.Alistair mine and Kevin Kilbarchan commentate.
:15:53. > :16:00.COMMENTATOR: These met in the semifinal stage and Brazil won on
:16:01. > :16:08.penalties before they went on to lose the gold medal match. Kevin
:16:09. > :16:14.alongside me. What is your gut feeling about this one? Such a
:16:15. > :16:19.difficult one to call. I'd go with Brazil simply because the home crowd
:16:20. > :16:22.that is with them, the momentum has been with them towards the end of
:16:23. > :16:27.the game. If they can take that through to extra time, of course,
:16:28. > :16:31.with the quality of Neymar and the like in the Brazilian side going
:16:32. > :16:40.forward, they might have enough. They could put this to bed in extra
:16:41. > :16:45.time. It's been such an even contest, you just hope it'll be a
:16:46. > :16:51.moment of genuine inspiration, as opposed to a moment to forget for
:16:52. > :16:55.one of these players. Renato Augusto is fouled. He's certainly been my
:16:56. > :17:02.man of the match, I think Kevin's as well. Yeah, superb performance from
:17:03. > :17:07.him. He's had to play a lot of the game, particularly normal time, on
:17:08. > :17:10.the back foot a little bit, stopping the German attack when they got into
:17:11. > :17:14.the final third. He's always been prepared to step in when his won the
:17:15. > :17:23.ball and start the Brazilian attack going forward. The Brazilian coach
:17:24. > :17:29.Rogerio Micale has two substitutions available to him. Horst Hrubesch the
:17:30. > :17:35.German coach only one, that could still be a factor. The Flacco stay
:17:36. > :17:42.down, here's Gabriel Jesus. The noise around the Maracana. Can't get
:17:43. > :17:46.it beyond Sule, who is fouled by Jesus. That was an opening. Great
:17:47. > :17:52.first touch from Jesus as well, excellent ball from Douglas Santos
:17:53. > :17:56.to spot the opportunity there. Good Jesus have gone on to his left foot?
:17:57. > :18:01.He's wanting to come he's tried to do it, it's good defending from Sule
:18:02. > :18:10.to stop the flow of that attack. A good chance, though, for Brazil. We
:18:11. > :18:14.could hear the cries of hope, the willing of everybody in the stadium,
:18:15. > :18:20.that Gabriel Jesus might put that in the back of the net. Thank goodness,
:18:21. > :18:25.if this does go to a penalty shoot out, you can only imagine the
:18:26. > :18:31.emotions around the stadium. Only three minutes into extra time at the
:18:32. > :18:37.moment. Brazil 1-1 Germany, neither country having won a gold medal
:18:38. > :18:41.before. Five World Cups won by Brazil. Four by Germany. Eight
:18:42. > :18:44.finals for Germany, making them the most successful team apart from
:18:45. > :18:50.Brazil in the Fifa World Cup at senior level. Three silvers for
:18:51. > :18:59.Brazil is the best they've ever managed. Two bronze for Germany, the
:19:00. > :19:03.best they've ever managed. It's been a wonderful contest, this. Had a
:19:04. > :19:09.case for a foul there, Nils Petersen, but the wrong side of
:19:10. > :19:13.Marquinhos. I don't think the referee wanted to give a penalty
:19:14. > :19:18.against Brazil at such a stage of the match.
:19:19. > :19:26.They have to do something out of the ordinary for him to give a penalty
:19:27. > :19:32.in this atmosphere. I think there was slight contact, Petersen did go
:19:33. > :19:35.over very easily. Once he got on the wrong side of Marquinhos, he's in
:19:36. > :19:46.trouble then, the Brazilian defender. Roderigo Caio. Well
:19:47. > :19:50.defended once again by Klosterman. Max Meyer. He took his goal
:19:51. > :19:53.brilliantly, the first goal Brazil have conceded in the entire
:19:54. > :20:07.tournament, when he levelled account. Ginter. You can see Brazil
:20:08. > :20:17.are about to make a second change. A foul. Gabriel Jesus, who is
:20:18. > :20:24.noticeably hobbling. That was high, fat, from Jesus. I think he's
:20:25. > :20:29.injured himself in the process. He's taken a number of hefty blows,
:20:30. > :20:34.Gabriel Jesus. It's not a surprise to see it is he who is having to
:20:35. > :20:40.make way. Can't fault his effort from his commitment. He's only 19
:20:41. > :20:45.years old. Manchester city have bought themselves a player there. I
:20:46. > :20:50.think he'll go on to be an excellent signing for Manchester city. His
:20:51. > :21:06.tiredness has caught up with him. Rafinha has come on in his stead.
:21:07. > :21:32.Driven away by Brazil in a dangerous area. Meyer on towards Brandt. Good
:21:33. > :21:37.interception by Douglas Costa, the pad is excellent. Luan onside.
:21:38. > :21:45.Neymar looking to join in. Still with Luan, but there were two maybe
:21:46. > :21:49.three Germany defenders in the way. Toljan I think it was that made the
:21:50. > :21:53.block. They've been caught out a few times, Germany, we spoke about
:21:54. > :21:58.Brazil being vulnerable to the counterattack, that time Germany
:21:59. > :22:03.sending bodies forward too early. Could Luan have picked out Neymar
:22:04. > :22:11.once he checked inside? Good chance for Brazil. Here's Douglas Santos.
:22:12. > :22:29.Now Neymar. Tries to threaded through. To Felipe Anderson. Can't
:22:30. > :22:40.quite manage it. Caio. Now Augusto. Rafinha. Germany come forward with
:22:41. > :22:44.Petersen. Brandt on the far side is the intended target. Brandt! That
:22:45. > :22:48.would have been magnificent. A heartbreaker perhaps for Brazil, but
:22:49. > :22:52.a moment of genuine quality. It's superb from Max Meyer initially.
:22:53. > :22:56.Once the diagonal ball comes in he never really trusted himself on his
:22:57. > :23:03.left foot, he wanted to take the strike with his right. This is the
:23:04. > :23:06.chance for Luan. Excellent forward ball, positive pass, as soon as he
:23:07. > :23:10.comes in here, could he pick out Neymar, could he have passed it to
:23:11. > :23:12.Neymar, in a better position? I think he should. Glorious chance for
:23:13. > :23:22.Brazil. The chances are coming. The legs are
:23:23. > :23:32.noticeably wilting on a number of the players. Fatigue, both mental
:23:33. > :23:35.and physical, playing its part now. Renato Augusto. Trying to change the
:23:36. > :23:40.angle of the play, headed away by Klosterman. Here's Gnabry. He's
:23:41. > :23:55.dispossessed by Marquinhos. A second time the substitute is
:23:56. > :24:16.involved. the tempo of this game is
:24:17. > :24:20.relentless, both sides trying to force the issue, lots of tired legs.
:24:21. > :24:24.It could be a mistake, a vital mistake, that could cost the team in
:24:25. > :24:32.this match. Got to keep your concentration in these late stages.
:24:33. > :24:48.The nervousness around the Maracana is palpable. You can only imagine
:24:49. > :24:53.them up and down this enormous country, people crammed into their
:24:54. > :25:01.living rooms, in bars, on the beach as well, I'm sure. Just hoping and
:25:02. > :25:04.praying their side can win the gold medal that the whole country wants
:25:05. > :25:20.more than any other. The football gold medal.
:25:21. > :25:28.Patients from Germany. Away by Timo Horn. Looking towards Petersen.
:25:29. > :25:46.Caio. Beginning to raise the noise levels
:25:47. > :25:55.now, the Brazilian supporters. Helped on by Douglas Santos. Here's
:25:56. > :26:12.Rafinha. Douglas Santos again. Neymar, good tackle.
:26:13. > :26:18.Taking on Brandt, getting the better of him, manages to find Rafinha, who
:26:19. > :26:28.I'm sure wasn't the intended recipient of the ball. Germany again
:26:29. > :26:33.set up perfectly despite us being in the 101st minute of the game. They
:26:34. > :26:37.are unable to get bodies forward in support in the attack. Rafinha
:26:38. > :26:42.looking to get the cross away. Only one player who can hit centrally.
:26:43. > :26:49.Most of the Brazilian players are circulating around the edge of the
:26:50. > :26:57.penalty area. It is, without doubt, one of the most iconic football
:26:58. > :27:05.grounds in the world. Famous throughout the footballing world.
:27:06. > :27:12.The Maracana. The home of the World Cup final two years ago, where
:27:13. > :27:21.Germany lifted a World Cup that was supposed be won by the hosts,
:27:22. > :27:24.Brazil, but wasn't. It has all accentuated the significance of why
:27:25. > :27:36.this gold-medal match has been watched by everyone right across the
:27:37. > :27:44.country. Less than four minutes to go of the first period of extra
:27:45. > :27:51.time. Brazil 1-1 Germany. Here's Walace. Good ball. Picked off by
:27:52. > :27:55.Sule. The Brazilian supporters, those who can bear to watch through
:27:56. > :28:02.their fingers, trying to raise the noise levels, trying to transmit
:28:03. > :28:07.some of their hopes and dreams to the players out there, who are
:28:08. > :28:11.ostensibly under 23 years of age. There won't be many players within
:28:12. > :28:15.these two sides that will have played in many better atmospheres
:28:16. > :28:18.than this, superb atmosphere, they have to draw from that. Certainly
:28:19. > :28:26.the Brazilian players themselves have to draw off the crowd, try to
:28:27. > :28:31.push themselves on. The coaches doing what they can to inspire. One
:28:32. > :29:01.change each still available to both. Douglas Santos, 22 years old. Plays
:29:02. > :29:09.it to Caio, 23 years old, of Sao Paulo. To the 22-year-old from
:29:10. > :29:19.Santos. Youthful players in the biggest match of their lives. That's
:29:20. > :29:27.one out for a goal kick. Walace, aged 21. If you look carefully,
:29:28. > :29:48.there are a few German supporters. Kicked away by Timo Horn. Out for a
:29:49. > :29:53.Brazilian throw. The Brazilians are trying to press for words. But the
:29:54. > :29:57.German defence under pressure. There are still quite content to keep the
:29:58. > :30:05.ball, move the ball slowly across the back four and use the goalkeeper
:30:06. > :30:16.who is very good with his feet. Gnabry, 21 years old. Timo Horn has
:30:17. > :30:21.said when he comes back to the Emirates, he will go out on loan but
:30:22. > :30:33.not before he has signed a contract extension. Who is going to emerge as
:30:34. > :30:50.their hero? Let us hope it is a hero and not a villain. Here is Zeca. The
:30:51. > :30:57.referee brings the first period of extra time to an end, not too many
:30:58. > :31:05.chances, but I guess it would be unfair to expect a level of
:31:06. > :31:10.intensity that has come before it. The tension is still palpable. The
:31:11. > :31:18.teams are locked at 1-1, who is going to win the gold medal match?
:31:19. > :31:21.And we will bring you that second-half of extra time very
:31:22. > :31:26.shortly. They will take on their fluids and then they will get back
:31:27. > :31:33.under way. Still a very quiet and very tense on the beach. Hardly
:31:34. > :31:38.anyone around at all. Anyone who is walking around tends to have an
:31:39. > :31:41.Argentina shirt on and they are not necessarily interested in watching
:31:42. > :31:47.Brazil against Germany. We have a big night of live sport still to
:31:48. > :31:50.come on BBC One. The final night in the Olympic Stadium of the
:31:51. > :31:56.athletics, the highlight from a British point of view, the men's
:31:57. > :32:01.5000 metres at half past one, Mo Farah going for a double 00 already
:32:02. > :32:10.having claimed the men's 10,000 metres and before that, Lynsey Sharp
:32:11. > :32:13.will go in the women's 800 metres final were the favourite will be the
:32:14. > :32:15.South African and everything rounds of which the men's four by 400 m
:32:16. > :32:22.relay which unfortunately will not have Great Britain in since they
:32:23. > :32:27.were disqualified. The tae kwon do bronze matches will be on BBC Four.
:32:28. > :32:34.The ankle first followed by Mahama Cho. Back to the Maracana for the
:32:35. > :32:47.second half of extra time -- Bianca Walkden. You can probably sense the
:32:48. > :32:56.amount of tension, anxiety, nervousness among those watching.
:32:57. > :33:01.You can only imagine the similar emotions doubling under the surface
:33:02. > :33:15.of the players as well. Here is Zeca. Charged down by Klostermann.
:33:16. > :33:26.Helped on by Brandt. Good tackle by Douglas Santos. It has been an
:33:27. > :33:30.incredible pace this match. You think it would have died down a
:33:31. > :33:34.little through that first period of extra time, but if anything it has
:33:35. > :33:40.continued in the same vein. A lovely ball and here is Felipe Anderson.
:33:41. > :33:47.I'd save by Timo Horn! Neymar involved inevitably. Look at that
:33:48. > :33:52.little reverse pass, it is outstanding. Good stop. Excellent
:33:53. > :33:58.stop from Timo Horn. Great awareness from Neymar. It is that movement.
:33:59. > :34:04.This time it is Felipe Anderson and he tries to take the strike with his
:34:05. > :34:09.right foot, instead of perhaps going with his left. Brazil corner and
:34:10. > :34:16.Timo Horn, he gets away with it, brushes it off the top of his
:34:17. > :34:22.fingertips. All that happens at the end of that is that Germany get a
:34:23. > :34:27.throw. He has to stay on his feet there, Marquinhos, he did so well to
:34:28. > :34:39.win the ball back. Looking for a free kick but he was never going to
:34:40. > :34:45.get it. A lot of noise as that pass went through to Felipe Anderson.
:34:46. > :34:48.Throughout Brazil, they hoped that might be the moment that this match
:34:49. > :34:59.was settled in their favour. It was not to be. Stretching a little bit.
:35:00. > :35:13.Would have had a better angle to try and take the strike on his left. He
:35:14. > :35:18.had a really great spell in the middle third of the match, either
:35:19. > :35:21.side of half-time. To the moment they equalise, really, and then
:35:22. > :35:25.after that they have not really fashioned too much. You could say
:35:26. > :35:30.the same for Brazil, until they scored, they were well on top and
:35:31. > :35:35.then Germany came back into it. Since the German equaliser, Brazil
:35:36. > :35:43.have created better chances. Felipe Anderson has been pivotal in that
:35:44. > :35:51.and has won another corner. Blocking and happy in a way to concede the
:35:52. > :36:02.corner. They are doing what they can. To inspire their players on the
:36:03. > :36:19.pitch. Another good header away, this time, Matthias Ginter. That was
:36:20. > :36:22.very pure. Trying to look for the man out wide, Brazil had so many
:36:23. > :36:26.bodies essentially, could he have put the ball into a more central
:36:27. > :36:38.position to try and create an opportunity. The coaches cannot do
:36:39. > :36:46.too much, the fans can do even less. Knocked on by Petersen, away by
:36:47. > :36:57.Marquinhos and it breaks for Brandt. Good tackle by Rafinha. Here is
:36:58. > :37:08.Felipe Anderson. Headed away by Klostermann. Luan. Tries to guide it
:37:09. > :37:21.into words Neymar. Headed away by Sule. Zeca. -- in towards. Brazil
:37:22. > :37:27.are dominant, Germany just trying to repel them, keep their shape, keep
:37:28. > :37:35.their focus. Maybe in their minds, they might have mentally settled for
:37:36. > :37:38.penalties. Here is Douglas Santos, now Felipe Anderson. Neymar,
:37:39. > :37:44.position from which to strike. He got underneath it. You would not put
:37:45. > :37:53.it past him, scoring from that range. Offers himself good first
:37:54. > :37:56.touch, bad execution, he had enough bodies ahead of him, could he have
:37:57. > :38:06.picked out a better path going forward? 28 attempts between the two
:38:07. > :38:11.sides, this tells you what type of game we have had today. Plenty of
:38:12. > :38:16.opportunities, the frame of the goal hit on three occasions, some good
:38:17. > :38:25.goalkeeping by Weverton initially and then Timo Horn, even as recently
:38:26. > :38:29.as extra time. It looks as though it might well be penalties, can you
:38:30. > :38:38.believe it? That will settle this gold medal match. Nine minutes of
:38:39. > :38:41.extra time to go, though. I am not so sure how the Brazilian public
:38:42. > :38:58.will be able to deal with a penalty shoot out here.
:38:59. > :39:04.Listen to the whistling because Germany are in possession of the
:39:05. > :39:10.ball. The Brazilian players then try to close them in and force them to
:39:11. > :39:28.hit it a bit longer. Breaks for Brandt. Good from Toljan. Cave.
:39:29. > :39:33.Gnabry to his left. Here is Gnabry. Tackle and a huge roar to greet that
:39:34. > :39:42.tackle, Neymar does not have the energy and he might well have cramp
:39:43. > :39:48.-- Klostermann. I think that is what it is, the tiredness letting them,
:39:49. > :39:55.he knows he has got too much pace for Sven Bender. There is no energy
:39:56. > :39:58.left in those legs. They are physically drained but more
:39:59. > :40:07.significantly they are emotionally drained as well. Yes. Brazil began
:40:08. > :40:13.the tournament with two goalless draws and as the flag goes up,
:40:14. > :40:17.against Neymar, their volume of criticism and the amount of column
:40:18. > :40:21.inches in the Brazilian newspapers about the fact that they began with
:40:22. > :40:26.two goalless draws, just shows you how much this competition has meant
:40:27. > :40:32.to the Brazilian public and the Brazilian media. They have had
:40:33. > :40:39.success, they have won gold medals in the Olympics, either from their
:40:40. > :40:46.women or men or both, it was the football gold medal but they wanted
:40:47. > :40:53.above any other. And that is why there has been such scrutiny upon
:40:54. > :41:02.those out on the football field. Tired legs. Here is Toljan, it
:41:03. > :41:10.almost broke momentarily, you could hear the screams from many of the
:41:11. > :41:17.Brazilian supporters. Everyone is hopping around now, Sven Bender has
:41:18. > :41:27.cramp in his hamstrings, Neymar has cramp in his calves. They are all
:41:28. > :41:30.gritting their teeth. It is worth remembering that the German
:41:31. > :41:38.Bundesliga season has not even started yet! The Spanish season has
:41:39. > :41:43.only just got underway for Neymar and Rafinha. They have a whole ten
:41:44. > :41:49.months ahead of them, all that is some distance away at the moment,
:41:50. > :41:58.because this is all about winning a prize gold medal. Now then, here is
:41:59. > :42:04.Meyer. Great block from Gnabry. Relief among the Brazilian
:42:05. > :42:12.supporters. Superb challenge from Augusto. He has done so well in this
:42:13. > :42:16.match. The referee's block was greeted as if it was a goal that
:42:17. > :42:24.sells the tournament. It is the first real site that Germany have
:42:25. > :42:35.had in extra time. There are going to make their final change. Max
:42:36. > :42:41.Christiansen comes on. He wants to come on. Sven Bender does not want
:42:42. > :42:44.to come off! He does not want to miss out on the remaining five
:42:45. > :42:51.minutes like his brother had two in normal time through injury. And Max
:42:52. > :42:55.Christiansen stays off the field as Felipe Anderson comes around the
:42:56. > :43:00.back, a brilliant tackle from Toljan. It is a free kick to
:43:01. > :43:04.Germany. You cannot underestimate what a great challenge that was. He
:43:05. > :43:10.knows as well when he goes to ground, he has to win the ball,
:43:11. > :43:15.because any contact with Felipe Anderson, there he is going up, it
:43:16. > :43:24.is a penalty. A tremendously timed challenge from Toljan. Sven Bender
:43:25. > :43:30.would not come off. There he is in the corner of your picture. He does
:43:31. > :43:34.not want to miss out on the remaining few minutes and if
:43:35. > :43:43.necessary, he wants to take the responsibility from the spot. He
:43:44. > :43:51.refused to give way to the severe cramp in his legs. Here is Gnabry.
:43:52. > :44:05.Now Promel. He looks very uncomfortable, Sven
:44:06. > :44:15.Bender, in midfield. You mention that cramp bearer. I think he is
:44:16. > :44:20.just running on a memory at the moment. Trying to occupy some space,
:44:21. > :44:26.will he have enough energy to take a penalty? I am sure he will
:44:27. > :44:33.volunteer. He is made of sterner stuff, Sven Bender.
:44:34. > :44:39.Evidence in front of your very eyes that Germany now think the only way
:44:40. > :44:48.they are going to win this gold-medal is through the penalties.
:44:49. > :44:59.I suppose it's a 50-50 shot, isn't it? The motions on the faces of
:45:00. > :45:03.everyone within the Maracana is probably mirrored throughout the
:45:04. > :45:12.entire country. Neymar... It's blocked, the shot, from Rafinha.
:45:13. > :45:19.Klosterman again getting back. Good challenge again from the German left
:45:20. > :45:28.back. Hands-on heads of Alcantara, nicknamed Rafinha. The corner to
:45:29. > :45:30.Brazil. Luan will swing it in. Renato Augusto will keep it alive.
:45:31. > :46:00.Now with Neymar. Two minute of extra time, that's all
:46:01. > :46:11.that remains. Good turn away by Brandt, it must be outside. It was a
:46:12. > :46:15.great run from Brandt, think he wanted the ball played early,
:46:16. > :46:25.Gnabry, that is why he set off. He knew he was offside. It was just the
:46:26. > :46:30.most brilliant run from Brandt. Hearts back into the mouths of the
:46:31. > :46:37.Brazilian supporters. Felipe Anderson can't get around Gnabry.
:46:38. > :46:44.Away by Klosterman. Excellent ball from Neymar to free up Felipe
:46:45. > :46:50.Anderson. Gnabry tracking back. Putting so much work into night,
:46:51. > :46:58.Gnabry, not necessarily always going forward as well. Renato Augusto,
:46:59. > :47:08.Douglas Santos. It's not a bad ball. Headed away, though. Gathered in by
:47:09. > :47:14.Renato Augusto. Douglas Costa stand it up again. Terrific header away.
:47:15. > :47:19.Brazil ending extra time in German territory. Can they provide a final
:47:20. > :47:26.twist? No, they can't. Timo Horn has it. I'm sure he will take as long as
:47:27. > :47:32.he is possibly permitted. When this ball reaches the Brazilian half, the
:47:33. > :47:40.referee will blow his whistle. He looked at his watch and decided
:47:41. > :47:46.against it. Another look at the watch from the referee. Is there
:47:47. > :47:55.time to fashion one final opening? No, there's not. The Olympic Games
:47:56. > :48:02.is almost coming to its conclusion. And before it does, a penalty shoot
:48:03. > :48:12.out will decide whether the host nation are going to win a gold medal
:48:13. > :48:17.in the Maracana Stadium. Germany and Brazil, the two sides who met in the
:48:18. > :48:20.semifinal of the Fifa World Cup two years ago, when Germany broke
:48:21. > :48:26.Brazilian hearts and humiliated them, knocking them out of their own
:48:27. > :48:32.World Cup. The Brazil redemption. If it's going to come, it's going to be
:48:33. > :48:35.via penalty shoot out. Brazil 1-1 Germany. The drama is palpable. But
:48:36. > :48:52.it's going to extend to a shoot out. There isn't much the coaches can do
:48:53. > :48:56.other than look in the eyes of the players in front of them and decide
:48:57. > :49:01.who looks as though they are mentally attuned to hitting one of
:49:02. > :49:04.these penalties. Surely, Kevin, varies more pressure, more
:49:05. > :49:10.responsibility, not the Brazilians than the Germans. Spot on with that,
:49:11. > :49:13.I've been in this position in a major tournament in a penalty shoot
:49:14. > :49:17.out situation. You know, you've got to believe in yourself, in your
:49:18. > :49:20.technique. As you say, when the manager looks you in the eye you
:49:21. > :49:23.have to stand up to be counted. That's what both managers will be
:49:24. > :49:27.doing with both sets of players. You've just got to believe in
:49:28. > :49:32.yourself when you step up. Everywhere you look there are fizzy
:49:33. > :49:37.owes and medical staff trying to get the cramp out of the legs. I guess
:49:38. > :49:45.after 120 minutes and after a long tournament there's bound to be
:49:46. > :49:51.muscular problems, strains. How can you overcome that to get enough
:49:52. > :49:55.energy to put the ball beyond the goalkeeper? You mentioned with Sven
:49:56. > :49:58.Bender, he was being substituted committee signalled the bed she
:49:59. > :50:03.didn't want to come off, he was suffering badly with cramp. Neymar
:50:04. > :50:10.suffering with cramp. -- signalled to the bench he didn't want to come
:50:11. > :50:14.off. These are vital moments to get yourself prepared physically, try to
:50:15. > :50:18.get a quick massage if you can with the medical team that you have
:50:19. > :50:22.around you. Get yourself prepared. Physically, first and foremost. Then
:50:23. > :50:28.the mental side takes over when you step up to take the penalty. The two
:50:29. > :50:36.captains are the two goal-scorers so far. Neymar setting Brazil alight
:50:37. > :50:43.with a free kick. That was simply exquisite. The equaliser from Max
:50:44. > :50:54.Meyer. A well worked move, tucked away, deservedly so. It's going to
:50:55. > :51:03.be a penalty shoot out. That's going to settle this much anticipated
:51:04. > :51:10.match. Let's hope that whoever it is doesn't blast it over the bar, let's
:51:11. > :51:15.hope it's a magnificent save that brings this penalty shoot out to an
:51:16. > :51:18.end. You'd hate to think it was a dreadfully hit penalty into road 24,
