:01:03. > :01:12.And now, listen to this... Representing Great Britain, Adam

:01:13. > :01:20.Peaty. Nobody is faster than him over 50 metres breaststroke. Wow.

:01:21. > :01:26.Adam Peaty wins the gold medal in the breaststroke. Absolutely

:01:27. > :01:35.stunning. He's won gold in the 100. Now he's won gold on the 50. Adam

:01:36. > :01:37.Peaty fulfilling the potential. The first time the 50/100 doubles ever

:01:38. > :01:46.done in the World Championships for men. What a superstar. Look at the

:01:47. > :01:57.power that he has. The world record holder, the defending European

:01:58. > :02:02.champion, the Commonwealth champion. Welcome back to Rio and it could be

:02:03. > :02:06.a golden night for team GB. Adam Peaty could land the first gold

:02:07. > :02:09.medal of the Rio Olympics in the men's 100 metres breaststroke. Do

:02:10. > :02:17.stay with us. What a night we have lined up for you. Great sport over

:02:18. > :02:21.the next few hours. He set a world record in the heats

:02:22. > :02:30.on day one, can Adam Peaty do it all again and secure top spot on the

:02:31. > :02:40.podium? And on her Olympic debut, Jazz Carlin hoping to secure a medal

:02:41. > :02:45.in the 400 metres free. Liam Pitchford played the opening match

:02:46. > :02:50.in table tennis. He's up again in a few moments time. The Murray

:02:51. > :02:53.brothers of Andy and Jamie are on court later. We'll pick up their

:02:54. > :02:59.match later as they pick up their quest for doubles gold.

:03:00. > :03:04.And stay with tennis. Novak Djokovic has won multiple majors and the

:03:05. > :03:15.Davis Cup but would love to make Murray's Olympic title. He starts

:03:16. > :03:19.again Juan Martin Del Potro. Brazil have never won gold in the

:03:20. > :03:23.football in the Olympics and they've had some much-needed improvement

:03:24. > :03:27.against Iraq. So this is how it all plays out. Get

:03:28. > :03:33.your evening planned because live table tennis is coming up in the

:03:34. > :03:37.next few minutes as Liam Pitchford starts the third round match against

:03:38. > :03:43.Korea. And Novak Djokovic has won two grand slams and now going for

:03:44. > :03:51.Olympic gold. Brazil play Iraq in the second match in Brasilia. A

:03:52. > :03:54.wonderful stadium. We will bring you the goals if there are any. They

:03:55. > :04:00.were disappointing against South Africa. At 5:53, set your alarm

:04:01. > :04:07.clock, Adam Peaty could win our first gold medal of the Games. Jazz

:04:08. > :04:14.Carlin goes for gold in the 400 metres freestyle at 3:03 but up

:04:15. > :04:19.against a tough field. America's Katie Ledecky, the favourite.

:04:20. > :04:23.Well, it's been a very windy day here in Rio and the weather today

:04:24. > :04:26.and this evening, slightly chilly out there today. Not that we're

:04:27. > :04:31.disappointed in any way, shape or form. In fact, the rowing was

:04:32. > :04:35.cancelled. Tennis delayed but the divers still got on with it. A lot

:04:36. > :04:39.calmer now down on Copacabana Beach, the home for our studio. The locals

:04:40. > :04:42.are still out on the beach. Volleyball right down at the very

:04:43. > :04:46.end. That was earlier today. Even though it was slightly windy today,

:04:47. > :04:55.people still out and about on the beach. So the main man in the pool

:04:56. > :05:00.tonight is Adam Peaty. How are you? Good, thanks. Good. Do you get sick

:05:01. > :05:05.of walking through those doors? Not really. You must do. At 5:00am, it

:05:06. > :05:10.is not every day that you go - I'm so happy to be here. Positive

:05:11. > :05:15.attitude, isn't it? You are very positive, I'll give you that. What a

:05:16. > :05:19.brilliant 100 metres breaststroke, it's gone to Peaty. Obviously you're

:05:20. > :05:25.on the block every single day. Do you ever visualise yourself in Rio,

:05:26. > :05:28.what it will be like? A bit. I always like to visualise a race.

:05:29. > :05:32.Once you're under water, all of the cheers are there and then you hear

:05:33. > :05:35.numbness and once you take the first stroke, it's so loud.

:05:36. > :05:39.COMMENTATOR: This is a very, very big lead. This is not over. It looks

:05:40. > :05:47.like it might be Peaty. Peaty has it on the last stroke and the World

:05:48. > :05:52.Champion is Adam Peaty. Are you worried about a big crowd or relish

:05:53. > :05:57.it? Relish it. The more people there are in the crowd, I love it. I can

:05:58. > :06:03.swim good but not great when there's not a big crowd. You can't say that,

:06:04. > :06:06.you broke the world record at the World Championships with like two

:06:07. > :06:12.people in the stand. That's different because it is London! I

:06:13. > :06:15.looked at the score board and knowing no-one else has ever been

:06:16. > :06:19.near that by half a second. Your face, you went like this! I just

:06:20. > :06:22.looked at it and looked at it again and then I looked at it again and

:06:23. > :06:25.then I had to take another look to make sure that it wasn't going to be

:06:26. > :06:29.adjusted or anything. And then it was just like - yeah, world record.

:06:30. > :06:34.Adam, we're going to fly dick on the water and then we're going to pull

:06:35. > :06:38.out, but only the top half. Do you think that you would have had the

:06:39. > :06:42.same success without Mel? Or you guys are such a solid team? I don't

:06:43. > :06:46.think that I would be anywhere near I am now. I've always been, it's

:06:47. > :06:51.always been me and Mel. I have enough trust in her to put me ahead

:06:52. > :06:55.of the rest. We openly said, that he doesn't think that he would have the

:06:56. > :07:02.success if he wasn't with you. Don't you make me cry on TV, Becky. Don't

:07:03. > :07:05.you make me do that! I'm in a very unique position that I'm able to

:07:06. > :07:10.have taken a 14-year-old young man all the way to an Olympic Games as a

:07:11. > :07:13.world record holder and I will always be thankful and humble about

:07:14. > :07:18.that process. You know what an Olympics can be like. It throws all

:07:19. > :07:22.sorts of hurdles at you but I the one thing that I've known is that

:07:23. > :07:28.I've got a boy who for eight years has never given in, so if I take him

:07:29. > :07:33.there, who knows. I always think at Olympic Games, the amazing thing is

:07:34. > :07:38.that somebody comes out and goes, hiya and you never hear of it. I was

:07:39. > :07:42.the underdog in Beijing! It looks like could be Adlington. Do you

:07:43. > :07:45.think that it will be something like that in the 100 metres breaststroke,

:07:46. > :07:49.or do you think that you're the best? I think that Mel has always

:07:50. > :07:54.given me names and put them next to me and then I'll judge. It's not a

:07:55. > :08:00.cockiness but more confidence and I won't judge until I'm racing. But if

:08:01. > :08:03.someone pops out of Rio, so be it. I'll welcome the challenge, really.

:08:04. > :08:07.Looking at my training and looking at where I am in the gym, I'm

:08:08. > :08:11.definitely in the strongest position I've ever been in, so it's looking

:08:12. > :08:14.good. But at the same time, it's still my first Olympics. I've proven

:08:15. > :08:19.that I can go to my first World Championships and come back with a

:08:20. > :08:23.few medals and obviously a world record and I'm going to give it my

:08:24. > :08:28.best possible performance. We wish Adam Peaty all the very best

:08:29. > :08:34.and you can watch it live with us here on BBC One at 2:53 the time.

:08:35. > :08:39.Let's hope that Adam Peaty wins our first gold medal of the Rio 2016

:08:40. > :08:43.Olympic Games. Let's cross to the Olympic Park and Clare is talking to

:08:44. > :08:46.the youngest competitor in Team GB. Thank you, yes, alongside me is

:08:47. > :08:53.someone swimming at her first Olympics at the age of just 13

:08:54. > :08:57.because this is Kafrika Singh who is swimming here this morning for Nepal

:08:58. > :09:02.but she is based in London and goes to school in London. Tell me about

:09:03. > :09:05.the Olympics? It is amazing. I feel fortunate to be here up against so

:09:06. > :09:10.many people here. Your dad, Paris, is here. Was it the plan for her to

:09:11. > :09:16.come to Rio so young? No, it wasn't in our plans. Things just worked out

:09:17. > :09:20.and it worked out for her. An amazing experience which she can

:09:21. > :09:24.build up in the future. And you're at school. When does term start

:09:25. > :09:32.again and what will you be studying? What year are you? I'm at Year 9.

:09:33. > :09:36.The new year starts on September 6. So I'll be in Year 9. And why

:09:37. > :09:40.swimming? When did you take it up and decide - I'm good enough to go

:09:41. > :09:45.to the Olympics? I first started swimming when I was in Scotland. My

:09:46. > :09:53.dad forced me to go. Forced you! She's always going to say thank you!

:09:54. > :09:58.Thank you. And then I went a the age of 9 and from there, I built up. And

:09:59. > :10:02.having the love of swimming. And you swam in your 100 metre backstroke

:10:03. > :10:07.heat this morning. What happened? I won my heat and I'm really proud for

:10:08. > :10:13.my country. So you are an Olympic winner? Yeah. What's the plan now?

:10:14. > :10:16.Hopefully make the 2020 times in Tokyo and carry on swimming. That

:10:17. > :10:19.would be fabulous. Have you had a chance to meet any of the swimmers

:10:20. > :10:24.from the British team? Have you met Adam Peaty? Yeah, we saw him when he

:10:25. > :10:27.was training and we saw Ben Proud when he was doing a dive and I

:10:28. > :10:32.didn't realise but I was swimming down and apparently I'm in one of

:10:33. > :10:35.the Instagram photos. I look really slow, though, and he's doing a

:10:36. > :10:40.really fast dive and I'm just like - OK, I'm swimming now. Be honest,

:10:41. > :10:44.have you been taking lots of photos for your own social media purposes?

:10:45. > :10:50.Yeah, I have. Who has been your best photo so far? I didn't take any yet

:10:51. > :10:58.of people because I want to just let them concentrate on the races. But I

:10:59. > :11:01.was swimming next to one of my idols yesterday in morning, Mitchell

:11:02. > :11:04.Larkin from Australia. And I thought - should I take a photo? Maybe not,

:11:05. > :11:10.he's training. I think that it is great and fabulous that you won your

:11:11. > :11:15.heat. Enjoy the experience. Are you going to go into the aquatic centre

:11:16. > :11:21.tonight and see Adam? Yes, and hopefully see Katie Ledecky. Yes,

:11:22. > :11:25.world records have crumpled. Team Peaty will be here supporting Adam

:11:26. > :11:29.and will be here shortly so come back in just a second?

:11:30. > :11:36.Thank you very much. All eyes on the pool. Adam Peaty going at 2:53. And

:11:37. > :11:40.the other team GB competitor we're keeping a close eye on. And if Jazz

:11:41. > :11:47.Carlin could get a medal. She missed out on London 2012 but now she's in

:11:48. > :11:56.with a real chance. I'm going there to be on the podium.

:11:57. > :12:00.I'm doing everything that I can. All these years of training, all the

:12:01. > :12:08.hours and the earl why I mornings, it's for this moment in Rio. I'm

:12:09. > :12:13.going to give it absolutely everything and if that's enough to

:12:14. > :12:22.be on the podium, that would be an incredible thing. In 2011, I found

:12:23. > :12:27.out that I had glandular fever and it was tough and I was getting

:12:28. > :12:32.tonsilitis every two or three weeks and couldn't put in a consistent

:12:33. > :12:35.block of training. I went to the Olympic qualifiers and I came

:12:36. > :12:38.fourth. That was hard to take especially when you've been working

:12:39. > :12:40.so hard for so long to go to the Olympics, and especially a home

:12:41. > :12:43.Olympics. So it was pretty hard to take and I had to take some time

:12:44. > :12:47.away from the sport to find my love for it again. I was so close to

:12:48. > :12:51.hanging up the goggles and the costume, but I think that's what

:12:52. > :12:55.sport is like. It tests you and it's about how you overcome the sort of

:12:56. > :12:58.lows to appreciate all of the highs and have all of the good times

:12:59. > :13:02.throughout sport. I'm 25 now and that's quite unusual for someone to

:13:03. > :13:06.be at their first Olympics at 25. But it's finally nice to come out

:13:07. > :13:12.the other side and achieve the dream of going to the Olympic. It's a

:13:13. > :13:14.really good feeling. COMMENTATOR: Jazz Carlin from

:13:15. > :13:18.Swansea takes Wales to gold. For Glasgow, it was the home games that

:13:19. > :13:23.I never got to experience and to have my family there and my friends,

:13:24. > :13:26.have the support, it was so nice for everyone that supported me and to

:13:27. > :13:29.see me come out the other side and achieve the dreams and to actually

:13:30. > :13:34.be enjoying my swimming again and to be standing on top of the podium a

:13:35. > :13:39.hearing the national anthem. It's probably my proudest moment to date,

:13:40. > :13:42.really. Sometimes I do take myself too seriously and I think that I can

:13:43. > :13:45.really hard on myself and I think that that is natural as an athlete.

:13:46. > :13:49.But I think just to appreciate everything and I think especially

:13:50. > :13:54.this year, as it's been the Olympic year and I've been quite stressed

:13:55. > :13:58.and it's been... I've put a lot of pressure on myself. I think because

:13:59. > :14:01.I've wanted it so much for so long but once I realised that it is just

:14:02. > :14:04.swimming and sport and something that I've loved to do and since I

:14:05. > :14:09.was a young girl, I loved being in the pool and racing and having fun

:14:10. > :14:11.so I've tried to capture that feeling again and have that

:14:12. > :14:16.enjoyment back into my training again. I'm going to make sure that I

:14:17. > :14:20.do absolutely everything and have no regrets. Once I'm on the blocks and

:14:21. > :14:24.given 110% in all that I've done and have no regrets, then I can walk

:14:25. > :14:27.away from the pool knowing that I've given absolute le everything in

:14:28. > :14:31.there. Well, Jazz was absolutely devastated

:14:32. > :14:35.to miss out on London 2012 but let's hope, fingers crossed, that she can

:14:36. > :14:39.get on the podium at least this evening. Let's cross live to our

:14:40. > :14:44.swimming team. Helen Skelton is there and what a night it would be

:14:45. > :14:46.if Jazz Carlin won a medal. What a night indeed and it's not an

:14:47. > :14:52.unrealistic suggestion. Not when you take into consideration what she did

:14:53. > :14:57.earl errier in the pool today. Becky Adlington, you have two medals in

:14:58. > :14:59.this event. How excited were you seeing the performance this morning?

:15:00. > :15:03.Jazz Carlin has looked the best she's ever looked to me this

:15:04. > :15:06.morning. She looks so relaxed, so strong and so in control. We saw

:15:07. > :15:09.earlier this year at the trials that she was so nervous and got so worked

:15:10. > :15:13.up that she didn't actually qualify for the 100, which most people say

:15:14. > :15:16.is her better event and then she went and smashed the 400 and did

:15:17. > :15:20.fantastic at it. So it's amazing that she's come here and laid out

:15:21. > :15:23.that mark and blown the cobwebs away and not focused on the nerves and

:15:24. > :15:26.what happened the a the beginning of the year and said - you know what,

:15:27. > :15:29.this has been my dream and what I want to do and she went in there.

:15:30. > :15:32.And the fact that she's next to Katie Ledecky as well. That's pretty

:15:33. > :15:35.daunting going into a thing knowing that she's got the gold. But that

:15:36. > :15:40.doesn't scare Jazz. I think that Jazz is going in there with a mind

:15:41. > :15:43.set that she can win a medal if she swims her own race, other hen pace

:15:44. > :15:47.and not let the occasion get the better of her and I do genuinely

:15:48. > :15:51.believe that she's capable of being there. Today she got a PB, a new

:15:52. > :15:54.Welsh record. What about the mind set, though? Because this is a much

:15:55. > :15:58.bigger stage than the British trials and as you say, the nerves got the

:15:59. > :16:02.better of her there. Are you confident sha she can keep a lid on

:16:03. > :16:06.it and do what she needs to do tonight? Jazz is so experienced that

:16:07. > :16:10.most people think sha she's been to an Olympic Games before and I think

:16:11. > :16:15.that she needed that to happen at the Olympic Games and I think she's

:16:16. > :16:18.had that little blip and the freak out moment and now this is it, she's

:16:19. > :16:23.worked on it since the trials and that was really good for it to

:16:24. > :16:28.happen there and not here. And the fact that she's... Yes, Katie

:16:29. > :16:32.Ledecky will be out in front. She knows the way that Katie Ledecky

:16:33. > :16:36.swims and will be going for the world record but Jazz swam a great

:16:37. > :16:41.personal best and faster than I ever did at an Olympics games so I

:16:42. > :16:46.genuinely believe that she'll stick to the race plan. She's got someone

:16:47. > :16:49.great next to her from France who went out hard this morning. If Jazz

:16:50. > :16:54.can do that and use the back end that we know she has. That's

:16:55. > :16:58.amazing. You say that she swam faster than you ever did and you

:16:59. > :17:01.have two Olympic medals here. Hearing Jazz talk to Sharon after

:17:02. > :17:05.this, she was so excited and buzzing and said that she couldn't wait for

:17:06. > :17:09.tonight and get stuck in. Do Katie Ledecky have a positive effect on

:17:10. > :17:13.it? Is this going to push Jazz? I think that the thing is that we

:17:14. > :17:18.don't know what she's going to do. We saw her in the 4 x 100 relay

:17:19. > :17:23.freestyle last night that she smashed so we know that she has the

:17:24. > :17:27.speed. Katie is capable of going like 3:56 tonight which is probably

:17:28. > :17:31.a bit out of reach for Jazz Carlin and the fact that she did a personal

:17:32. > :17:37.best this morning. So I think for Jazz, she'll be trying to

:17:38. > :17:40.concentrate her own rails and use the other swimmers. She was so

:17:41. > :17:46.excited, it was brilliant to see her. We know that you'll be with us

:17:47. > :17:53.up here Helen, thank you very much. The key time for you is 2:53 so set

:17:54. > :17:57.your alarms and get the espresso ready and hopefully Adam Peaty will

:17:58. > :18:01.win the first gold medal of the 2016 Olympic Games. We'll be showing you

:18:02. > :18:04.some tennis very shortly. Andy Murray and Jamie Murray get the

:18:05. > :18:08.doubles match under way shortly but let's cross back to Olympic Park

:18:09. > :18:11.because Clare Balding is with Team Peaty.

:18:12. > :18:17.I would like to controduals you to the key back-up in Adam Peaty's

:18:18. > :18:21.life. This is mis mum, Caroline and dad Mark and girlfriends Caroline.

:18:22. > :18:25.They will be there roaring him on. Anna, when did you last see your

:18:26. > :18:30.boyfriend? I think it was probably the day or night before he left with

:18:31. > :18:35.Mel to go on the flight to Rio. So quite a while ago now. Will you

:18:36. > :18:38.shout out - will you make eye contact before the final or after

:18:39. > :18:41.it, do you think? If he can find us in the crowd. I mean, hopefully

:18:42. > :18:45.we'll be quite obvious because we've got a few banners but yeah,

:18:46. > :18:49.hopefully he'll be able to spot us somewhere in the crowd. Mark, you

:18:50. > :18:52.were saying that you were obvious walking around the park because

:18:53. > :18:56.everybody knows who you are because it is there on the shirt. We get

:18:57. > :19:02.stopped regularly by the Brazilians. What do they say? They say, "Peaty,

:19:03. > :19:06.good." And Peaty is good. How impressed are you with what he a he

:19:07. > :19:11.is done? It's fantastic what he's done and achieved but in the past,

:19:12. > :19:18.and present. So yeah, it's been very good. What do you hope for tonight?

:19:19. > :19:22.To get a medal. Of any sort, it doesn't matter. Take the pressure

:19:23. > :19:26.off yourselves in a way of watching it. Caroline, you've made a big

:19:27. > :19:29.decision coming out here to Brazil because it meant getting on a plane

:19:30. > :19:33.for the first time. How was it? It was really good. I think that the

:19:34. > :19:38.airport to go through security frightened me a little bit because

:19:39. > :19:41.that's all new. Getting on to the plane, my heart started to thump and

:19:42. > :19:46.I thought, once I'm on, I'm on. But it was a lot easier than what people

:19:47. > :19:49.have been telling me so it was really good so thank you British

:19:50. > :19:52.Airways. And how have you found the experience here in Brazil so far?

:19:53. > :19:57.It's been really good. The people are brilliant. Brazilians are so

:19:58. > :19:59.welcoming. They'll go out of the way to help you understand. Really,

:20:00. > :20:05.really welcoming. Really positive people. Now, your boy, Adam, it is

:20:06. > :20:09.an extraordinary story because the reason that he started swimming was

:20:10. > :20:12.what? Because we pushed him into swimming lessons because he needed

:20:13. > :20:17.to swim and because he wouldn't even sit down in the bath. So he needed

:20:18. > :20:22.to get into the water. Because he was scared of it? Yeah, he was. At

:20:23. > :20:26.the seaside, he was a rock pooler, finding things. He wouldn't go into

:20:27. > :20:29.the sea. Every photograph that you see, he's fully clothed. So you

:20:30. > :20:33.know, that's Adam. But now completely different. Yes, the boy

:20:34. > :20:36.who was afraid of water could become an Olympic champion tonight and this

:20:37. > :20:40.is the team that helped get him there in terms of getting up early

:20:41. > :20:43.in the morning of taking him to swimming lessons and supporting him

:20:44. > :20:46.all the way through, and providing him with love, making sure that he's

:20:47. > :20:49.confident going through and most of all, taking the pressure off. A

:20:50. > :20:54.medal of any colour, they say would be great. Good luck to all of you.

:20:55. > :20:59.Have a fabulous night. Thank you. Thank you very much. Come on Adam

:21:00. > :21:04.Peaty. 2:53, remember. Set your alarm clock and get ready and let's

:21:05. > :21:09.hope for a gold tonight for Team GB. We're going to turn our attention

:21:10. > :21:14.from the pool to tennis because Andy Murray got his Olympic defence

:21:15. > :21:24.underwait today against troit troit troit and it was -- under way

:21:25. > :21:28.against Viktor Troitski no. I will Busy day for Mr Murray because Andy

:21:29. > :21:34.is now back on court, this time in the doubles with his brother, Jamie.

:21:35. > :21:58.They fails the Brazilian pair. Just go and join our commentators.

:21:59. > :22:05.There are high hopes for this team. Thomaz Bellucci. Unseeded, Jamie and

:22:06. > :22:11.Andy are number one and two. And we hope that they will justify that

:22:12. > :22:20.seeding. But the doubles is full of very good pairs. Jamie and Andy

:22:21. > :22:31.there. But even unseeded. Djokovic won today. Roberto Bautista Agut and

:22:32. > :22:35.Ferrer. Rafa is playing with Mark Lopez. It's a very tough ask to win

:22:36. > :22:43.this title and Andy and Jamie don't have the best of records in Beijing.

:22:44. > :22:46.They got to the second round. Beaten by Clement and Lodre and there

:22:47. > :22:52.wasn't a lot of brotherly love floating around after that and four

:22:53. > :22:56.years later in London, they yost to Meltzer and Payet. But obviously a

:22:57. > :23:00.lot has happened since then. Winning the Davis Cup was huge. And also

:23:01. > :23:04.started off the campaign this year in the Davis Cup in Birmingham

:23:05. > :23:19.beating Japan, the two of them together. They're a much better

:23:20. > :23:23.outfit now, but they'll need to be here against Thomaz Bellucci and

:23:24. > :23:37.Saha. Bellucci the left-hander. A left and right handed pair on both

:23:38. > :23:42.sides of the net. Andre Saha ranked 39. Thomaz Bellucci ranked 55 in

:23:43. > :23:44.singles and 102 in doubles but they will be a heck of a proposition. It

:23:45. > :24:08.is Andy Murray to begin. Andy looking confident in the

:24:09. > :24:25.opening match. For those new to the tennis, it is a

:24:26. > :24:27.slow court. It checks the ball. That won't be as important in doubles as

:24:28. > :24:45.it will in singles. Temperature is around 23. It's been

:24:46. > :24:49.falling for the last hour or two. I think that the hot weather we've had

:24:50. > :24:52.in the last few days has gone for a few days but it is humid. 73%

:24:53. > :25:17.humidity. Cracking volley from Andy Murray as

:25:18. > :25:30.he came forward. So just surveying the scene here.

:25:31. > :25:33.The match that's going on a lot later than it was scheduled because

:25:34. > :25:37.of the late start, because of the wind, they were worried about the

:25:38. > :25:42.structures so play started about an hour and a half late. So this very

:25:43. > :25:53.much an evening match. 8:30 local time. But quite a few of spectators

:25:54. > :26:01.have stayed to watch this and it should be atmospheric. So it's

:26:02. > :26:22.Bellucci, the left-hander to begin serving.

:26:23. > :26:34.Ar that's some start from Bellucci. Bellucci, who played this morning

:26:35. > :26:37.against Dustin Brown. Brown got injured. Bellucci through to the

:26:38. > :27:44.second round. He has got a big serve, Bellucci.

:27:45. > :27:58.Toned it down a bit for doubles but very effective.

:27:59. > :28:07.How acrobatic was that from Andre Sa. He might be 39 years of age, but

:28:08. > :28:10.really twisted his body in some kind of contortion there. And that's got

:28:11. > :28:36.the crowd going. Don't try that one next time you're

:28:37. > :28:59.on the courts. He did really well to keep his balance.

:29:00. > :29:07.Jamie, of course, has been number one in the world in doubles this

:29:08. > :29:35.year. Just dropped a bit laty. Down to six.

:29:36. > :29:46.Close! Giving it a second look, but no challenge. Hawk eye is available

:29:47. > :30:23.here on this court. Most joyously received there. He's

:30:24. > :30:53.looking sharp, Bellucci. Two cracking returns from Bellucci

:30:54. > :31:18.there by Sa. And suddenly, here are two break points to defend.

:31:19. > :31:30.Oh, great instinctive volley from Andy Murray. He came at him like a

:31:31. > :31:40.bullet. It wasn't the sweet spot, but he did so well to get a racquet

:31:41. > :32:25.to it and then compose after that. Still break point.

:32:26. > :32:29.The two Brits like a wall at the net. Probing, but finding nothing.

:32:30. > :33:02.Two break points saved. World cohesion from these two. They

:33:03. > :33:05.have developed as a doubles pairing over the last few years. Davis Cup,

:33:06. > :33:41.of course, very much the highlight. They will be very relieved, very

:33:42. > :33:50.happy, to have got out of that hole. Two point breaks saved and now 2-1.

:33:51. > :34:02.Jamie, of course, plays most of the time with the Brazilian Bruno

:34:03. > :34:25.Suaruz. He and his partner scored a win today. They played against some

:34:26. > :34:36.Ties. He's had a lot of success with Andre Sa. So it will be Sa, the

:34:37. > :35:14.fourth to serve here. Of the two Brazil yeps, this is the

:35:15. > :35:18.likely serve to be broken. -- Brazilians, this is the likely serve

:35:19. > :35:24.to be broken. He doesn't have anywhere near the power of his

:35:25. > :35:52.partner. Bellucci equally not as strong as Sa at the net.

:35:53. > :36:25.He has lightning reflexes. There was nothing that Bellucci could do about

:36:26. > :36:29.that. Ed he got it second time around, Jamie. A huge by of luck for

:36:30. > :36:48.the Brazilians. Where is it? There it is.

:36:49. > :36:52.Well played! CHEERING

:36:53. > :37:07.Cheer A lovely angle from Bellucci. You can see Sa, the pressure taken

:37:08. > :38:12.off. A comfortable hold. All of the makings on a cracking doubles.

:38:13. > :38:17.You would expect nothing less. He served very well in his singles.

:38:18. > :38:27.Around 70% first serves in. Hardly dropped a point. He hardly dropped a

:38:28. > :39:01.point on that first serve. UMPIRE: net, first service.

:39:02. > :39:09.Oh, beautiful hands. He is so quick with his hands at the net.

:39:10. > :39:35.Astonishing reflexes, Jamie Murray. UMPIRE: Game Murray, Murray. Really

:39:36. > :39:37.high-class stuff. Magnificent serving from Andy. Three games to

:39:38. > :39:50.two. Andy with a magnificent year, of

:39:51. > :39:59.course, winning in Paris, Queens and a second time at Wimbledon. Jamie

:40:00. > :40:02.started the year off in quite sensational form with Bruno Suarez,

:40:03. > :40:05.winning the first two tournaments of the year in Sydney and of course in

:40:06. > :40:18.Melbourne winning the Australian Open. The final in two other

:40:19. > :40:24.tournaments, Top Gear tournaments in Monte Carlo and Toronto. He's become

:40:25. > :40:31.one of the leading doubles players in the world and for some time this

:40:32. > :40:43.year THE leading doubles player in the world.

:40:44. > :41:14.Bellucci to serve for the second time.

:41:15. > :41:59.Well, net court made the difference. Andy Murray with no chance of

:42:00. > :42:18.putting that away. It is one of his favourite returns,

:42:19. > :42:30.the lob return off the forehand. We will see plenty more of that from

:42:31. > :42:49.Jamie Murray. Oh! Dynamic interception there from

:42:50. > :42:50.Andre Sa! CHEERING

:42:51. > :43:21.But a rally full of good stuff. You can see he is such a live wire

:43:22. > :43:31.at the net. Just enough width there from Jamie.

:43:32. > :43:50.CHEERING UMPIRE: Game Bellucci and Sa. Three

:43:51. > :43:54.games all. Service breaks will be at a premium. This match, the best of

:43:55. > :44:27.three tie break sets. They are picking up where Sa left

:44:28. > :44:27.off. Full stretch on the interception and brilliantly

:44:28. > :45:12.controlled. Again, such a cute angle. He is

:45:13. > :45:21.devastating whenever he gets near the net. As they set up, Jamie on

:45:22. > :45:22.serve. He stands a good way back behind the baseline and then a big

:45:23. > :45:41.step forward. Bellucci leading up on that massive

:45:42. > :46:33.forehand. One of the biggest forehands in the worldment -- world.

:46:34. > :46:42.He could keep serve. Sa was anxious to attack it to put a dent in the

:46:43. > :47:07.confidence, but they have not been able to manage that.

:47:08. > :47:16.Oh, fantastic! Andy deserved better. Extraordinary vollying work from

:47:17. > :47:25.him, but what about that shot from Andre Sa?! So skilful. Andy at the

:47:26. > :47:51.net. A shot that he would have been proud to make, that one.

:47:52. > :48:17.Oh, yes! He's on fire at the moment. He threaded the needle. The brothers

:48:18. > :48:35.are looking at each other. Jamie expected Andy to go for that.

:48:36. > :48:42.A little clip off the net helped a great deal there tow slow them up.

:48:43. > :49:21.-- to slow them up. He wasn't hanging around that time,

:49:22. > :49:25.Andy Murray. So Jamie holds, 4-3. UMPIRE: Murray, Murray lead four

:49:26. > :49:29.games to three. Just going the move away from this match ever so quickly

:49:30. > :49:34.to bring you up-to-date with some of the other big stories and tell you

:49:35. > :49:40.what is going on in the Games tonight. A big shock, Serena and

:49:41. > :49:46.Venus Williams going out. They lost to the cheque pair. It is the first

:49:47. > :49:49.time the Williams sisters have lost an Olympic tennis match together.

:49:50. > :49:53.Venus has been suffering from a virus and went out in the first

:49:54. > :49:58.round yesterday, although Serena did progress in the singles earlier

:49:59. > :50:05.today. A pretty big story in the women's doubles. Elsewhere tonight,

:50:06. > :50:11.if you fancy a little bit of table tennis, well, Britain's Liam

:50:12. > :50:18.pitchford has had a busy day. He is doing well in the third-round match

:50:19. > :50:25.against the Korean. If you want to lead to the Rio Centro you can do

:50:26. > :50:29.that via your red button. If you fabsy a bit more tennis, Novak

:50:30. > :50:35.Djokovic is taking on Juan Martin del Potro who bizarrely got stuck in

:50:36. > :50:38.a lift earlier today and was saved by the Brazilian handball team. He

:50:39. > :50:41.was stuck in the lift for 20 minutes. A beautiful setting there.

:50:42. > :50:45.That is available on BBC Four. Remember, we will cross live to the

:50:46. > :50:52.swim shortly. It is a massive night for Adam Peaty. Many even's 100

:50:53. > :50:58.metre breast stroke final and then Jazz Carlin is in the women's 400

:50:59. > :51:00.metre freestyle champion at 3:01. Do stay with us. Back to the men's

:51:01. > :51:17.doubles. Simon Reid. So inroads at the start of this is a

:51:18. > :52:14.sa service game. -- Sa service game. CHEERING

:52:15. > :52:44.Clinical work at the net from Bellucci.

:52:45. > :52:51.Well, he may be the old court of the court, 39 years of age, Andre Sa,

:52:52. > :53:08.but he's having a Dream Time at the moment. -- dreamtime at the moment.

:53:09. > :53:09.I don't think Jamie and Andy understand Portuguese. Old habits

:53:10. > :53:37.die-hard. Dream time at I thought Sa's serve was the more

:53:38. > :53:45.vulnerable of the two, but it hasn't looked that way. They are picking

:53:46. > :54:03.away at this one. A tie break looking very much a probability.

:54:04. > :54:19.Sa quickly onto this. He wasn't about to make a mistake, not the way

:54:20. > :55:05.that he is playing at the moment. He is the star turn.

:55:06. > :55:10.Oh, fantastic rally. Changing the point of attack. A full-blooded

:55:11. > :55:24.return. A really strong play from twhos. I

:55:25. > :56:09.-- these two. UMPIRE: Game, Murray, Murray. He's

:56:10. > :56:19.served magnificently well, in both singles and doubles. They lead 5-4.

:56:20. > :56:24.Let's bring you up-to-date with some of the other tennis British. Johanna

:56:25. > :56:30.Konta made it safely through into Round 2 of the women's singles. Col

:56:31. > :56:36.fort 6-3, 6-1 victory. Her victory means that all four British singles

:56:37. > :56:41.players in Rio de Janeiro have made it into Round 2 where 10th seed

:56:42. > :56:45.Konta will play Caroline Garcia of France. So well done to Johanna

:56:46. > :56:48.Konta. The big news from the tennis competition is that the women's

:56:49. > :56:54.doubles have seen a massive shock today. Venus and Serena both

:56:55. > :57:00.crashing out. Back to the Murray boys. Simon Reid. Thank you, Jason.

:57:01. > :57:05.It is very tight here. They havego keep the standard that they have had

:57:06. > :57:16.right the way through. Any slip and these two will be onto them. They

:57:17. > :57:25.know that. Real cohesion and brilliant reflexes. So it will be

:57:26. > :57:32.Thomaz Belluci to serve to cope this pair in this opening set.

:57:33. > :57:54.-- keep this pair in this opening set.

:57:55. > :58:05.A really tricky serve. Returning is not Jamie's forethey. -- forte.

:58:06. > :58:15.There wasn't much he could do with that.

:58:16. > :58:21.But returning is one of his brother's greatest strengths.

:58:22. > :58:48.Again, the electric Sa. He merges from nowhere.

:58:49. > :58:55.I am not sure what he was trying to do there. He was obviously trying a

:58:56. > :59:12.lob, but I don't quite know why. Only he knows.

:59:13. > :59:54.No problem! CHEERING

:59:55. > :59:58.so five games each. Everyone holding serve pretty comfortably apart from

:59:59. > :00:00.Jamie's first service game where he had to save - he and Andy had to

:00:01. > :00:36.save two break points. Slightly disappointed that he

:00:37. > :01:40.couldn't have made more of it. He was trying to be a little bit too

:01:41. > :02:46.cute that time, Jamie. Well played. Again Andy Murray so

:02:47. > :03:06.quick to see the opportunity. Once again, job done and Andre Sa

:03:07. > :03:17.will be hoping to try to take this into a breaker. Phenomenal reaction.

:03:18. > :03:24.See the weight going backwards. More to drill that in. But still, the

:03:25. > :03:44.technique and astonishing reflexes to make a winner out of it.

:03:45. > :03:51.The pair are rock solid. Conditions are much easier now than when Andy

:03:52. > :03:58.played earlier on against Viktor Troicki. It windy and he felt that

:03:59. > :04:00.it was tricky. Gradually came to terms with everything in the end and

:04:01. > :05:06.Viktor Troicki rather faded away. Pity because he played that rally so

:05:07. > :05:10.well, Andy Murray. Terrific return. A shot to make it difficult for the

:05:11. > :05:34.net player. But didn't work that time.

:05:35. > :05:41.He's really hitting the spots. He may not have the most penetrating

:05:42. > :06:10.serve of all time, Andre Sa. But the direction is now perfect.

:06:11. > :06:32.First double of the match so far for the Brazilian pair.

:06:33. > :06:38.And tacking play from both Andy and Jamie. They haven't had a break

:06:39. > :07:15.point yet. Pity. It was a perfect lob, but just

:07:16. > :07:52.couldn't follow it up. So they're a point away from a

:07:53. > :07:58.tie-break. And there it is. It's been nip and tuck all the way

:07:59. > :08:16.through. You'd have to know more than me to pick a winner here with

:08:17. > :08:41.any confidence. So, Andy to begin the first set tie-break.

:08:42. > :08:54.That is some miss from Andre Sa, who has played so well. Real chance

:08:55. > :08:58.there of a mini break. A defence there. But he knows that he should

:08:59. > :09:05.have made it. So really, just one mini break could

:09:06. > :09:19.be crucial here. No prisoners. But he's played like

:09:20. > :09:51.that throughout this match. Oh, yes. That's some return. Sa was

:09:52. > :09:57.just edging towards the middle. Jamie, we saw him go a little early.

:09:58. > :10:34.But that was some result. And there is the first mini break.

:10:35. > :10:39.A 4-1 lead would probably be insurmountable with Andy's serve.

:10:40. > :11:04.Two serves to go. That was a super shot from Thomaz

:11:05. > :11:14.Bellucci. Jamie is a tall guy, 6'3" like Andy.

:11:15. > :12:07.So the mini break is neutralised. So Andre Sa knew which way he was

:12:08. > :12:16.going. Well, they waited a long time for this. They really have had their

:12:17. > :12:24.money's worth with the late, late start and the late, late evening. A

:12:25. > :12:28.super doubles after that with the demise of the Williams' sisters

:12:29. > :12:49.beaten from the girls from the Czech Republic. And now this.

:12:50. > :13:07.Brazil hit the front for the first time in the match.

:13:08. > :13:26.He saw the stretch and he was not balanced there, Jamie. He couldn't

:13:27. > :13:32.get back. Andy trying to cover. But nowhere near. Fabulous shot from

:13:33. > :13:53.Bellucci and they're two points away from the opening set.

:13:54. > :14:31.So Andy now to return this huge serve. But he'll move forward.

:14:32. > :14:35.Oh, super perseverance. It looked like Jamie had done enough at the

:14:36. > :15:04.net. Two set points for Brazil. So quick to see the opportunity. And

:15:05. > :15:29.in they came, like sprinters. Set point number two but this time

:15:30. > :15:59.on Jamie's serve. Well, that's a wonderful serve. And

:16:00. > :16:03.these two have played so much Davis Cup together. They're used to this

:16:04. > :16:09.kind of atmosphere. It feels almost like a Davis Cup final. Even though

:16:10. > :16:16.not the amount of spectators but the noise being generated. So out of

:16:17. > :17:00.jail, two set points saved. And that's the worst scenario,

:17:01. > :17:10.really. A third set point for Brazil. And it's their serve. Sa,

:17:11. > :17:35.can you -- can he finish it off? Nope! A wonderful set of tennis. But

:17:36. > :17:42.it is Brazil who take the first set. 53 minutes of high-class stuff. Andy

:17:43. > :17:48.and Jamie denied, for now. It's Brazil leading one set to love.

:17:49. > :17:53.For the moment, thank you very much indeed. High, entertaining and

:17:54. > :17:58.quality stuff in the tennis and Jamie and Andy, not only up against

:17:59. > :18:03.Bellucci and Sa, but also a very noisy Brazilian crowd. Not there in

:18:04. > :18:06.massive numbers but trust me, having been to the beach volleyball when

:18:07. > :18:09.Brazil were playing, they make a lot of noise. Let's take you around some

:18:10. > :18:14.of the other venues and show you what's happening now. Let's take you

:18:15. > :18:21.to Barra and show you what's happening in the table tennis. It's

:18:22. > :18:23.Britain's Liam Pitchford up against Yeung from Korea. He's already

:18:24. > :18:31.played today. That was a second round match. This is now a third

:18:32. > :18:35.round match and you just wonder whether today's exertion in the

:18:36. > :18:39.round has taken its toll on Liam. 'S three games to one down. It's the

:18:40. > :18:43.best of seven. First of four and best of five games in the team event

:18:44. > :18:47.and if you want a little explanation there. A game is won by the first

:18:48. > :18:55.player to reach 11 points. That's available on the red button. But of

:18:56. > :19:00.course, the big event this evening is in the pool Adam Peaty could win

:19:01. > :19:03.the first gold medal. He could win the first gold medal. It's fair to

:19:04. > :19:08.say we're all pretty excited. It's been a long time since we had a male

:19:09. > :19:14.Olympic champion. That man is with me now in the pool. Adrian

:19:15. > :19:18.Moorehouse back in 19 # 8. You won the 100 metre breaststroke which is

:19:19. > :19:21.what Adam is going for. This is you in action. You came into that event,

:19:22. > :19:29.like Adam, the world chaffion, the marked man. Could you enjoy it?

:19:30. > :19:34.Could I enjoy it? At that point, yes? Yes, but you were six there.

:19:35. > :19:38.You said your mum and dad were having kittens there? Big problems

:19:39. > :19:42.for the supporters. Coming in as world number one and I had held the

:19:43. > :19:46.title for quite a while and same as Adam Peaty here. Though it was my

:19:47. > :19:49.second Olympics so of knew what to expect. I think he's in a better

:19:50. > :19:53.position than I was in actually. At that point, I think that it was

:19:54. > :19:56.about delivering when it counted. Because similarly, I had done my

:19:57. > :20:01.heats the day before and I had a whole day to sleep, to heat, to do

:20:02. > :20:04.the whole thing and just wait for the race and I just couldn't wait

:20:05. > :20:08.for it to happen. I was so excited about it happening. Looking at Adam,

:20:09. > :20:12.you would say that he is excited. He smashed his own world record in the

:20:13. > :20:16.heat. He looks very relaxed and justifiably so. Can we hang the

:20:17. > :20:20.medal around the neck? Nothing is ever certain until it's over. But I

:20:21. > :20:23.can't see anybody... I mine, he came into this one and a half seconds

:20:24. > :20:30.ahead of the rest of the world. The people here, already in the first

:20:31. > :20:33.two races, he's beaten by 1.2 seconds so he's light years away

:20:34. > :20:36.from everybody else. What sets him apart? If you think about what he's

:20:37. > :20:40.done for the last few years. From the moment that you saw him the a

:20:41. > :20:43.the Commonwealth Games, what sets him apart? There's obviously the

:20:44. > :20:48.physical attributes, physical and mental. And I think that physically,

:20:49. > :20:55.he's got everything. Technically, he's a good package. He's 6'3". He's

:20:56. > :20:58.a locomotive. He's in good shape and he's worked on the technical bits

:20:59. > :21:03.and the dive and he had to do a bit of work on the diven. He holds the

:21:04. > :21:07.water well U' see no dead spot. The big trick there. There's two parts

:21:08. > :21:12.to it. You don't keep it there. You have to keep it flowing. He's

:21:13. > :21:16.brilliant at keeping it flowing but mentally you've seen him and heard

:21:17. > :21:20.him being interviewed. He's the coolest calmest person that you'll

:21:21. > :21:23.meet and the combination of having the technical ability and the talent

:21:24. > :21:26.to do this and then cope with the pressure in the moment and just put

:21:27. > :21:31.the bubble around yourself and say, you know what, I shouldn't be here.

:21:32. > :21:34.And what he's good at doing is turning threats to opportunities but

:21:35. > :21:38.everybody will say - yeah, you're the best in the world. And he'll

:21:39. > :21:42.say, yes, I'm the best in the world. So he has everything there, the

:21:43. > :21:46.complete package. But you can be confident because as you say, he has

:21:47. > :21:50.the distance and has 1.5 seconds worth of confidence. It's a huge

:21:51. > :21:55.amount. I won my race by 100th of a second. A win is a win. That's

:21:56. > :21:59.right, a gold medal is a gold medal but he has great distance. A gold

:22:00. > :22:04.medal that your daughtering Daisy, who is 7 years old took to school

:22:05. > :22:08.and carried it off there. It was Olympic week three weeks ago and she

:22:09. > :22:13.said, is it OK if I bring this to school? And I said - yes, make sure

:22:14. > :22:18.that you bring it back. Don't worry, it is back in the safe now. You can

:22:19. > :22:23.see that the warm-ups are going on behind us but the finals start in

:22:24. > :22:26.about 40 minutes. Jazz Carlin and Adam Peaty flying the flag for

:22:27. > :22:34.Britain in the finals tonight. Thank you very much indeed for the

:22:35. > :22:44.moment. So 2:53 for Adam Peaty. And later on for Jazz Carlin. Let's show

:22:45. > :22:51.you a quick tweet from Spencer Wilton, US Masters champ -- Danny

:22:52. > :22:58.Willett. Let's rejoin Simon because Brazil took the first set. Jamie and

:22:59. > :23:21.Andy Murray fighting back. Yes, it's still some fight. 30-30.

:23:22. > :23:52.Strange shot there as he barks out an insult to himself.

:23:53. > :24:02.Well, Bellucci just fell apart at the end of that game. Very strange.

:24:03. > :24:03.Bellucci has played really well but suddenly in that game, everything

:24:04. > :25:07.went south. Got a little help from the net there

:25:08. > :25:41.but came across quickly to it. Well, he made the move and you would

:25:42. > :25:45.expect Bellucci to make it but he has suddenly become the weak link in

:25:46. > :26:04.this match and he'll be a target for these two.

:26:05. > :26:18.It's almost like by winning the first set, the intensity drained out

:26:19. > :26:25.of him. He's making mistake after mistake now, Bellucci.

:26:26. > :26:36.Must have been close, but no challenge.

:26:37. > :26:43.That's more like it. Good save from Jamie. But Bellucci up to the mark

:26:44. > :27:28.there. Really good covering from Andy.

:27:29. > :28:22.Working really well together. And off in a rush to the second set.

:28:23. > :28:28.Exquisite play from Andy Murray right from the return. Looking for

:28:29. > :28:51.the opening and in the end, finding just the shot.

:28:52. > :29:00.He's a real jack-in-the-box is Andre Sa. Got as high as 19 in the world

:29:01. > :29:09.back in 2009. Ranked 60 in doubles.

:29:10. > :29:28.Hard to believe there are 59 better doubles players than him.

:29:29. > :30:07.Just got it. Looked very athletic and indeed acrobatic. Must have been

:30:08. > :30:17.very close to the sideline. So, Sa holds. Not without

:30:18. > :30:50.difficulty. STUDIO: We'll go back to the tennis

:30:51. > :30:54.very shortly but disappointing news from the table tennis because Great

:30:55. > :31:01.Britain's Liam Pitchford has crashed out of the men's singles in the

:31:02. > :31:06.third already played today. He came up against a really tough competitor

:31:07. > :31:12.from Korea. Ranked number 12 in the world. Too much for Liam Pitchford.

:31:13. > :31:16.Disappointment for him. Back to the tennis.

:31:17. > :31:23.COMMENTATOR: The Brits are in pretty good form having suffered the

:31:24. > :31:28.disappointment of losing that first set. A terrific start, breaking

:31:29. > :31:48.Baluchi's serve at the start here. The music of the Beatles has reached

:31:49. > :31:53.all around the world of course. Just the one break of serve in the match,

:31:54. > :32:00.no breaks at all in the first set. Just that break of the Belucci serve

:32:01. > :32:02.at the start of the second. They are doing a good job of getting the

:32:03. > :33:01.crowd of just a little bit quieter. Yes! Jamie setting it up, showing

:33:02. > :33:33.great athleticism. A pulverising finish.

:33:34. > :33:49.Instinctive volley but it worked a treat.

:33:50. > :33:54.Remarkable the control that Andy Murray has in really difficult

:33:55. > :34:59.situations. Just missed. Really good try from

:35:00. > :35:02.Sa, but the angle just a little bit too acute. That 2-game lead is

:35:03. > :35:11.restored. Bellucci, who lost his serve first

:35:12. > :35:41.up, will serve again. Just away from the corner, the lob

:35:42. > :36:07.returned from Jamie again. -- return.

:36:08. > :36:16.Just great defence from Andy Murray. And once more the mistake from

:36:17. > :36:50.Bellucci. Not having as good a set as he was in the first.

:36:51. > :37:00.Am a well played. Again, such quick thinking from Andre Sa -- again well

:37:01. > :37:05.played. Looked like he was going to be very unlucky. This could have

:37:06. > :37:26.been very tricky but not at all. This will do his confidence the

:37:27. > :37:27.world of good, Bellucci, if he can hold with some comfort here. The

:37:28. > :37:46.crowd getting back into it. Must have only just missed. They are

:37:47. > :37:48.going to challenge. I think it might just be out but certainly worth a

:37:49. > :38:09.challenge. It was. So, Bellucci's confidence has been

:38:10. > :38:12.restored and the Brits lead 3-2 in this second set.

:38:13. > :38:18.STUDIO: Andy and Jamie still very much in this one, back to the tennis

:38:19. > :38:24.and Simon Rig, our match commentator, very shortly. Let's

:38:25. > :38:29.talk to our man keeping an eye on the gymnastics. Yesterday it was all

:38:30. > :38:33.about the women and a remarkable recovery from Elie Dowling today.

:38:34. > :38:37.Absolutely. She's one of these athletes who we expect now, she's

:38:38. > :38:42.only 16, but we expect big things from her, she did well on the world

:38:43. > :38:46.stage, the European stage and now on the Olympic stage. There was a big

:38:47. > :38:51.worry for her because on her floor routine she fell on her front punch

:38:52. > :38:55.and landed on her neck and she had to stop and go off and have some

:38:56. > :39:00.treatment. She told me afterwards she heard a crunch in her neck and

:39:01. > :39:03.she was put in a wheelchair but then she was determined to come out and

:39:04. > :39:09.compete and finished for the team and she ended up doing a 14.8 to

:39:10. > :39:13.help the team to a score of 1.74. That wasn't a perfect performance

:39:14. > :39:17.from Great Britain but it was enough to get into the final and they are

:39:18. > :39:22.in the mix in that region where they could win a medal on Tuesday. Good

:39:23. > :39:26.news. But looking at what social media is saying tonight, it sounds

:39:27. > :39:31.like the Americans are on fire in the gymnastics? Jason, I don't think

:39:32. > :39:36.incredible or scintillating cuts it, we will have to start making up new

:39:37. > :39:39.words and superlatives from the dictionary because they finished the

:39:40. > :39:45.qualification session and the team lead by a full ten points. That is

:39:46. > :39:50.like a football team beating someone by 50-0 or something like that.

:39:51. > :39:58.Every gymnast in their team leads all of the individual

:39:59. > :40:03.qualifications. Biles, a phenomenon in herself, she leads by 62 points.

:40:04. > :40:05.She leaves three of the other apparatus standings and she is on

:40:06. > :40:10.course to become the first woman to win five golds at the Olympics. The

:40:11. > :40:15.way she performed tonight, no one would bet against that happening.

:40:16. > :40:18.David, thank you, we will talk to you tomorrow. Thanks very much.

:40:19. > :40:22.Let's go to Centre Court and the tennis, back to Jamie and Andy

:40:23. > :40:27.Murray shortly but let's look at this, one Martin Del Potro is taking

:40:28. > :40:28.on Novak Djokovic. Djokovic looking to wrestle the gold from Andy

:40:29. > :40:30.Murray. Del Potro has got off back to a

:40:31. > :40:44.fantastic start. Cracking shot. Look at the reaction.

:40:45. > :40:50.Absolutely loving that. Del Potro leads. That match is available for

:40:51. > :40:57.you via the website. BBC sport online. Let's go back to Simon Read

:40:58. > :40:59.and our doubles match, Jamie and Andy Murray.

:41:00. > :41:04.COMMENTATOR: While Djokovic struggles, Andy Murray, with his

:41:05. > :41:06.brother, resurgent here in the second set.

:41:07. > :41:15.Almost on cue, a double but they've got a good cushion in this

:41:16. > :41:58.particular game. The return set it up, super return

:41:59. > :42:20.from Thomas Bellucci. Andy Murray just... A bit of room there.

:42:21. > :42:28.Another good retiring, this time from Andre Sa. And would you believe

:42:29. > :42:38.it, it's the Murray serve that is under the cosh now.

:42:39. > :42:47.It's at times like this when he produces his best serves.

:42:48. > :43:02.O! Some believe. I don't think it was a clean hit. Murray furious with

:43:03. > :43:04.himself but it is Bellucci's strike and here's break point, first time

:43:05. > :43:34.on the Andy served. -- serve. Now, Bellucci again. Murray smacks

:43:35. > :43:41.the net and that's just what the crowd want. But more importantly

:43:42. > :43:52.they got the break back and it is 3-3. Just when you least expect it.

:43:53. > :43:57.. Super returning both from Sa and Bellucci. Bellucci, who has been a

:43:58. > :44:04.little off the pace early in this first set, right back on it now.

:44:05. > :45:24.Well played. He took it in his stride, did Sa.

:45:25. > :45:45.Just as strong now as they were in that wonderful opening set.

:45:46. > :46:35.Wouldn't you know it?! They are turning it around in the second set,

:46:36. > :46:53.back in front, a set and 4-3. We will bring you a bit of news. The

:46:54. > :46:58.weightlifting, the Chinese have one in the 56 kg division. The

:46:59. > :47:05.25-year-old lifted 170 kilograms in the clean and jerk. Look at this,

:47:06. > :47:19.incredible strength. That is more than three times his body weight.

:47:20. > :47:35.And here he goes. Gold medal. On its way to China.

:47:36. > :48:12.Setting a new world record total. Gold in the 56 kg division.

:48:13. > :48:20.253, com on, you can do it. Going for gold. Get the espressos in, stay

:48:21. > :48:30.with us. We go back to the tennis. Jamie Murray has been in good touch

:48:31. > :48:44.with Andre -- Andy Murray. And Thomaz Bellucci and Andre Sa. This

:48:45. > :48:49.astonishing duo of Sa and Bellucci. They are the number two seeds. The

:48:50. > :48:56.number one seeds have been beaten by Juan Sebastian, the Colombians. They

:48:57. > :49:25.are out this evening. Did he challenge? I don't think he

:49:26. > :49:41.did. He has got such a jeweller to you. -- such agility.

:49:42. > :49:47.He was millimetres away. How he avoided it, did he? Did his shirt

:49:48. > :50:13.touch? Rafael Nadal has won again. He won

:50:14. > :50:17.earlier in singles and he and Mark Lopez beat their opponents and are

:50:18. > :50:24.through to the second round. Ranked number six.

:50:25. > :50:34.Stabilising game after a difficult time for Jamie and Andy. Four games

:50:35. > :50:38.each. No breaks in the first set, remember, just one break each in set

:50:39. > :50:52.number two. Are we heading for another breaker?

:50:53. > :50:57.It was Bellucci broken at the start of the second set. To serve again.

:50:58. > :51:07.He is a different man from 20 minutes ago.

:51:08. > :51:11.Andy racing back to encourage Jamie. It was a discouraging shot, that

:51:12. > :51:48.one. He read Murray's mine. -- mind. He

:51:49. > :51:51.is having one of the matches of his life, Andre Sa. He was on his way.

:51:52. > :52:30.Preparing the shot. And again! He is picking the right

:52:31. > :53:02.moment time after time. To get involved.

:53:03. > :53:07.They love service game for Brazil. 5-4, a game away from knocking out

:53:08. > :53:20.the number two seeds. If you want to continue watching

:53:21. > :53:25.that match it is available on the Red Button. We will show you what is

:53:26. > :53:30.happening, Brazil are taking on Iraq in the football. A wonderful

:53:31. > :53:45.stadium, look at that. Magnificent. Named after the great many -- World

:53:46. > :54:03.Cup champion. That man U saw just then, Naymar, a great performance.

:54:04. > :54:10.That match is available via the Red Button. Kick-off is at two o'clock

:54:11. > :54:15.if you want to watch. Brazil. We go back to Jamie and Andy Murray,

:54:16. > :55:20.serving to stay in the match. These two have been in this

:55:21. > :56:06.situation time and time again and invariably they come out on top.

:56:07. > :56:24.Clever use of angle from Andy Murray.

:56:25. > :56:36.That match on a knife edge. If you want to continue watching could --

:56:37. > :56:38.press the Red Button. If you want the conclusion of the tennis match

:56:39. > :56:51.hit the Red Button right now. It is a really busy night right

:56:52. > :56:59.across the Olympics in Rio. We are all set to see rate Britain win its

:57:00. > :57:08.first gold medal. Adam Peaty is the man in the 100 metre breaststroke.

:57:09. > :57:28.Representing Great Britain. Nobody is faster than him. Wins the gold

:57:29. > :57:35.medal in the men's 100 metre breaststroke. Utterly stunning. He

:57:36. > :57:42.has won gold in the 100 and now gold in the 50. Adam Peaty fulfilling the

:57:43. > :57:52.potential. The first time the 50 times 100 doubles... What a

:57:53. > :57:53.superstar. The power that he has. The world record holder, the world

:57:54. > :58:10.champion... One left. Come on, Adam Peaty, you can do it.

:58:11. > :58:15.253. Get ready, hopefully Great Britain will win its first gold

:58:16. > :58:21.medal. We go live to this wonderful arena, one of the most striking.

:58:22. > :58:26.15,000 capacity. I wish I had a motorbike because I would go in get

:58:27. > :58:31.Jason Mohammad and bring him here. It is going to be an epic night. Not

:58:32. > :58:34.just for our boys, some of the biggest names on the swimming

:58:35. > :58:36.circuit will be here. It is definitely worth staying up for.

:58:37. > :58:55.What are you looking forward to? We are not married! I am really

:58:56. > :58:59.looking forward, obviously, to Adam and also Jazz. An amazing

:59:00. > :59:04.performance this morning and I hope she gets a medal tonight. 25 years

:59:05. > :59:10.of age, her first Olympics. How unusual is that? It is unusual but

:59:11. > :59:16.it does happen. The reason she didn't make it last time at 21, she

:59:17. > :59:21.was, things did not go to plan. A good last couple of years and this

:59:22. > :59:26.morning she looked exceptional. We haven't seen her look that way for a

:59:27. > :59:33.long time. People are on form and it looks easy. She has got a great

:59:34. > :59:39.opportunity tonight. Jazz has a wonderful opportunity. We are also

:59:40. > :59:47.very confident, it is fair to say, we are going to see one man topped

:59:48. > :59:54.the podium. Just talk to us about the phenomena that is... Adam Peaty.

:59:55. > :59:57.Over the last couple of years you have watched him go from the Hunter

:59:58. > :00:06.to the hunted? I'm not sure, he's gone straight to

:00:07. > :00:11.the top of the world as I Canberra member, he came off after London,

:00:12. > :00:17.and he was one of the people that inspired a nation of children --

:00:18. > :00:21.Camra member. By 2013 he was in amongst it and 2014 he won the

:00:22. > :00:27.Commonwealth Games and the Europeans. He's gone straight to the

:00:28. > :00:32.top actually. Why is he so good? He is so much faster than the rest of

:00:33. > :00:37.the field, we can almost hang that medal around his neck now, can't we?

:00:38. > :00:42.Like let's not get too carried away. I've never commented on the 100

:00:43. > :00:47.metres final where someone has been so far ahead of the rest of the

:00:48. > :00:53.field before the final, 1.4 seconds faster before the final, quite

:00:54. > :00:58.unheard of. His stroke is brilliant. He seems unfazed by it at the

:00:59. > :01:02.moment. The only thing I would say is he hasn't yet swum an Olympic

:01:03. > :01:07.final, it's very different but he's looked pretty confident and

:01:08. > :01:12.comfortable so far. Do you think he will be nice and calm in this one?

:01:13. > :01:18.Are surely, it's about managing his nerves, he's done really well so

:01:19. > :01:22.far. They are going to sneak through I think. A few butterflies in his

:01:23. > :01:29.tummy, he needs to get in the same formation. Same formation, indeed.

:01:30. > :01:36.As long as he does the right thing and holds onto his nerves he will be

:01:37. > :01:42.absolutely fine. It's time now to have a look at the women's 100 metre

:01:43. > :01:47.butterfly, Andrew Jamieson, Adrian Moorhouse, talk us through this one.

:01:48. > :01:56.COMMENTATOR: The fastest qualifier for this final of the women's 100

:01:57. > :02:00.metres butterfly. There is Sjostrom. She is a brilliant butterfly

:02:01. > :02:04.swimmer, the world champion and the world record holder on the 50 and

:02:05. > :02:09.100 metres butterfly but she's still not won an Olympic medal of any

:02:10. > :02:14.colour. Fantastic to see her, she's been at the top of her game since

:02:15. > :02:17.2012. People like Adam Peaty went straight in and won the World

:02:18. > :02:24.Championships in 2015, and she's not let it go, a bit of a favourite for

:02:25. > :02:29.me on this one. Swimming in six, Vollmer from the USA, the defending

:02:30. > :02:34.Olympic champion. Took time out and a break to have a child. Back in the

:02:35. > :02:41.Olympic final, fourth fastest qualifier. Sjostrom in four, Vollmer

:02:42. > :02:51.in six. The final of the women's 100 metres butterfly. A decent start in

:02:52. > :02:57.Lane four from Sjostrom, a good start from Ottesen from Denmark,

:02:58. > :03:00.very quick through the first 25. Interesting to see how Vollmer gets

:03:01. > :03:05.on because she has been improving since she got back after having her

:03:06. > :03:13.son, improving with every race, getting better and better in Lane

:03:14. > :03:19.six. Ahead of her own world record pace, Sjostrom. A bit scratchy down

:03:20. > :03:23.the first 50 but this is the part of the race when she really goes,

:03:24. > :03:29.Vollmer going well in the Black Hat closest to us from the USA. Sjostrom

:03:30. > :03:33.streaking away, a blitz rating the field. Sjostrom is going to become

:03:34. > :03:39.the Olympic champion, the first Swedish female ever to do so in the

:03:40. > :03:48.pool -- obliterating. A new world record. Sjostrom, I'm delighted for

:03:49. > :03:52.her. She has spent so long worrying about it and finally she's done it.

:03:53. > :03:59.Well done! Wasn't that a brilliant race? Straight off the gun, probably

:04:00. > :04:07.half a metre when she wasn't in the lead and she delivered, delivered

:04:08. > :04:11.all the expectations. 2013, 14, 15, 16, right now Olympic champion and

:04:12. > :04:15.the first Swedish woman to have ever achieved that and very

:04:16. > :04:19.well-deserved. I think it is massive for her emotion here because she was

:04:20. > :04:24.so disappointed to come forth in London in 2012. She was fourth last

:04:25. > :04:30.night in the women's four x 100 metre free relay. An OK start, not

:04:31. > :04:33.great in the centre in the yellow Hat. The outside lanes were a bit

:04:34. > :04:39.quicker but that's about the only part of the race when she didn't

:04:40. > :04:43.need it. Brilliant stroke. Very low on the water, very flat. Bringing

:04:44. > :04:49.the chin up above the water to get the air in. Dipping down, head to

:04:50. > :04:55.the bottom and get the arms and elbows around. The Swedish team...

:04:56. > :05:00.All kitted out with Sarah on their stomachs apparently. Well, look at

:05:01. > :05:07.that, a clear body length. That's the way to do it, isn't it? Olympic

:05:08. > :05:12.gold, body length. She won by 90 81 hundredths of a second. Length of a

:05:13. > :05:20.breaststroke. Same thing, what do you think? I hope so -- 90 one

:05:21. > :05:28.hundredths. Sjostrom WinZip, a new world record. A new world junior

:05:29. > :05:29.record for the 16-year-old, Oleksiak, extraordinary. British

:05:30. > :05:38.coaches coaching first and second. STUDIO: A world record and a world

:05:39. > :05:42.junior record. In the tennis, Andy and Jamie Murray are in a tie-break

:05:43. > :05:47.in the second set. Go to the red button to see them. If you want

:05:48. > :05:53.swimming, don't press the button. James guy in the 200 free, big names

:05:54. > :05:57.in this one, Chad lacrosse, Sun Yang, so much to talk about but

:05:58. > :06:01.James, he's the world champion, what have you made of his tactics in the

:06:02. > :06:07.last few days and what's he going to do? Not really tactics, in the first

:06:08. > :06:13.few days the 400 free didn't go to plan. A great 200 first up. Which

:06:14. > :06:16.will give him confidence for this. We don't know, we don't know the

:06:17. > :06:20.coach and his conversations and we don't know which he is focusing on,

:06:21. > :06:24.they are completely different events and he also has the 200 butterfly

:06:25. > :06:28.and the relay. Who knows what he will focus on but he looked good

:06:29. > :06:31.this morning. The danger for James is in the first semi-final, you want

:06:32. > :06:38.to be in the second one so you know what the others have done before so

:06:39. > :06:41.he is in the danger of waiting to see whether he has scraped through

:06:42. > :06:44.to the final. A horrible position to be in. He needs to finish in the top

:06:45. > :06:48.three to be in with a shout of getting to the final because I think

:06:49. > :06:51.the second final is jampacked. Interestingly it was the other way

:06:52. > :06:59.round this morning, he went out last Sony camera lacks a bit. Heat said

:07:00. > :07:06.to Sharon after the heats -- so he camera lacks a bit. He looked a lot

:07:07. > :07:11.lighter and like he can relax -- so he can relax a bit. Next you wake up

:07:12. > :07:16.and you feel really good and it can be as simple as that, dynamics

:07:17. > :07:20.change so quickly. Last night his 400 freestyle wasn't that bad but it

:07:21. > :07:24.wasn't what he thought it would be and it didn't seem as easy. The 200

:07:25. > :07:27.is probably where he might have been focusing more of his training but

:07:28. > :07:31.hopefully he can scrape through. Tonight is all about making the

:07:32. > :07:35.final tomorrow. He just has to make it through. He doesn't have to win

:07:36. > :07:43.but just make it through to the final. Let's talk about Sun Yang, he

:07:44. > :07:46.served a three-month ban, very controversial, the roll of the eyes

:07:47. > :07:48.says it all. You're welcome to have an opinion, Sun Yang served a

:07:49. > :07:52.three-month ban, he's very controversial out of the pool, has

:07:53. > :07:59.there been a spat with macro horton, has he been getting involved in

:08:00. > :08:02.chaos and arguments? Does he looked distracted, will he be put off his

:08:03. > :08:07.stride? I don't think he is distracted. In the 400 metres he got

:08:08. > :08:12.a really quick swim. He's getting on and doing his thing. All of the

:08:13. > :08:16.athletes and swimmers want a clean sport and the only thing to do to

:08:17. > :08:20.clean it up is if the world governing body says if you do wrong

:08:21. > :08:24.then you're out for life. Until that happens people will try it on and

:08:25. > :08:28.they will do it again. We will have plenty of time to talk about that

:08:29. > :08:30.over the next couple of days. Let's see how James gets on, the

:08:31. > :08:46.semifinals of the men's 200 free. COMMENTATOR: James Guy will be in

:08:47. > :08:49.lane three but the fourth fastest qualifier is Verschuren, the

:08:50. > :08:54.European champion from Holland. James Guy, the world champion,

:08:55. > :08:58.British recordholder, he had a go in the 400 free, he attacked it from

:08:59. > :09:02.the start to try to get on the top of the podium but in doing so

:09:03. > :09:10.probably sacrificed the bronze. He found it tough but he is a double

:09:11. > :09:12.world champion. James Guy, a gold in the 200 free at the World

:09:13. > :09:17.Championships when he overtook the Americans at the last breath. Two

:09:18. > :09:26.goal medals in the 200 free at the World Championships. It will be his

:09:27. > :09:34.last in Olympics, Biedermann. I'm not sure that world record is going

:09:35. > :09:40.to go for a long time. Oh my word! Phelps... Michael Phelps, he didn't

:09:41. > :09:48.even get close! Second, you're right. Goodness me! This is going to

:09:49. > :09:53.be a great first semi-final and probably the fastest of the two

:09:54. > :10:02.semi-finals. James Guy in three, bead on, the world record in four.

:10:03. > :10:08.Dwyer, swam a great freestyle yesterday, he got fourth in the 800.

:10:09. > :10:21.And the European champion, Verschuren, in six. Just waiting for

:10:22. > :10:28.the starter. There we go. Four lengths of the pool. First

:10:29. > :10:33.semi-final of the 400 freestyle, European champion James Guy in

:10:34. > :10:42.three. Should be very interesting indeed.

:10:43. > :10:50.Very good reaction to the gun and not bad under water from James Guy,

:10:51. > :10:54.very good start right at the top from the Polish swimmer, and also in

:10:55. > :10:59.lane five from Dwyer from the USA. James Guy working hard down the

:11:00. > :11:03.first 50, really doing well in the Red Hat. He got one of the better

:11:04. > :11:11.starts and James Guy asserting himself as the world champion that

:11:12. > :11:16.he is, taking the race at the top. Stjepanovic going with him. Dwyer in

:11:17. > :11:22.the middle a bit down. This is where we won the race to be. James Guy

:11:23. > :11:26.will want a bit of a margin. He's looking over their Mac in lane two.

:11:27. > :11:31.Looking very good. He looks like he is working it quite hard, really

:11:32. > :11:40.working his legs in three, first to turn at the 100 I think. Not quite.

:11:41. > :11:44.Stjepanovic, the European Championship silver-medallist in

:11:45. > :11:49.two. James Guy is second to turn. Guy is going well but bead on, the

:11:50. > :11:54.world recordholder, one lane closer to us, starting to make his move. --

:11:55. > :11:58.Biedermann. This is where he wants to be, James Guy talks about

:11:59. > :12:05.deferring the 400 but he is best suited to this, the 200 metres. Deep

:12:06. > :12:10.turn, turned over in first place. Now he is looking the right way. He

:12:11. > :12:17.is looking right, dropping off the pace, the two middle guys, Dwyer and

:12:18. > :12:20.Biedermann coming away. Top two will be good enough. He has to be careful

:12:21. > :12:24.because the second semi-final is pretty quick and it is all about

:12:25. > :12:32.times. Looks like it will be Dwyer in the Black hat of the USA. Very

:12:33. > :12:35.close. Yes, he gets it. Dwyer takes the first semi-final, Biedermann

:12:36. > :12:43.second, important touch, James Guy gets third. A lot slower than I

:12:44. > :12:49.thought it would be I've got to say. Really is. A-level bit dangerous for

:12:50. > :12:54.the second semi-final but third... A pretty good place -- a little bit.

:12:55. > :12:58.Better than fourth, if you get five swimmers pastor in the second semi,

:12:59. > :13:06.best to be third at this point rather than fourth. -- faster. James

:13:07. > :13:12.Guy, the European champion, Paul Biedermann, also from Germany. James

:13:13. > :13:16.Guy working hard at the end, finished on three quarters of a

:13:17. > :13:19.stroke and took an extra stroke. Working hard at the end. He put a

:13:20. > :13:28.lot into that race. Not sure how much he's got. Dwyer finished very

:13:29. > :13:33.quickly. Biedermann second. Look how close it is, very important James

:13:34. > :13:37.Guy got that touch, seven 100th ahead of the Polish and 41

:13:38. > :13:40.hundredths ahead of Verschuren. That was close.

:13:41. > :13:48.A world champion in this event but a scrap to get in the Olympic final.

:13:49. > :13:53.You wanted to sing a song, if I had a karaoke machine... Danger Zone.

:13:54. > :13:58.Great to come third but that time he needed to be in the 01:45zone, I

:13:59. > :14:03.worry that the second semi-final will be a really close call. He can

:14:04. > :14:09.only afford five to go faster than him. If six go in he gets ninth and

:14:10. > :14:14.he won't be in the final, Sun Yang is on form and he will be up for

:14:15. > :14:20.this. Chad did a great swim this morning. The Japanese, Michael

:14:21. > :14:34.Phelps, Fraser-Holmes is a decent swimmer. And also Hagino got the

:14:35. > :14:40.gold last night so he will be up for it. It will be so close, we have our

:14:41. > :14:45.fingers crossed. We hope James Guy likes to trace and if he can get

:14:46. > :14:49.into the final anything is possible -- chase. Anything can happen after

:14:50. > :14:54.24 hours. It's not looking as easy as it has done before, that's the

:14:55. > :14:56.thing, but he needs to be in there. He's with Sharon, let's see what

:14:57. > :15:07.James Guy has to say. How did that feel? It was OK. I

:15:08. > :15:12.would have liked to work gone a bit faster. Am not sure what happened.

:15:13. > :15:17.Do we need to hold our breath for the next few minutes? Anything can

:15:18. > :15:23.happen but hopefully I will sneak through. These guys are going very

:15:24. > :15:27.fast and you are the world champion. What sort of time to you think it

:15:28. > :15:36.will take to get amongst the medals? It is a different ball game this

:15:37. > :15:42.year. 145 low, 144 low. It is getting the process right. The first

:15:43. > :15:47.day is a write-off. A lot better in the 400 but hopefully in the final

:15:48. > :15:53.tomorrow night. Do you think you have been working more on your swim

:15:54. > :15:59.work because of the 200 and the fly? Not really. I like the 400, paid off

:16:00. > :16:05.the 200. Try to do the same thing here and it is OK. Our fingers and

:16:06. > :16:13.toes are crossed. Fingers and toes are indeed crossed. It was still

:16:14. > :16:18.pretty good James, but it is such a stacked field. What does he need to

:16:19. > :16:24.do now if he gets the final? I think he needs to rest. Do not come down,

:16:25. > :16:29.do not have a swim in the morning. He seems a bit tired. He needs to

:16:30. > :16:34.totally recover and give it his all tomorrow night. He does look a

:16:35. > :16:40.little bit tired and stressed that the situation. The Olympics is the

:16:41. > :16:46.Olympics. He came in as world champion but that was a shock to us.

:16:47. > :16:53.Not that he is not any good. But he came in under the radar. Sometimes

:16:54. > :16:58.it can affect you in different ways. It is a pressure melting pot. Go

:16:59. > :17:05.back, put your head down, tomorrow is another race. A member of our

:17:06. > :17:20.team at who is closest to be swimmers is Sharron Davies. Lots of

:17:21. > :17:25.talk about the way sun Yang. Last summer when we had the World

:17:26. > :17:30.Championships he was not the flavour of the month. He hit one of the

:17:31. > :17:37.girls in training and there was an official complaint and it was due to

:17:38. > :17:42.appear in the 1500 and he did not turn up and that is not heard of.

:17:43. > :17:47.Someone could have swum that race. At the end he was given the swimmer

:17:48. > :17:52.of the meet which did not go down well with the rest of the swimmers

:17:53. > :17:54.in Nepal. He has been done for drugs, had to survey suspension and

:17:55. > :18:00.we didn't know about that until after he was given it and he also

:18:01. > :18:04.served time in prison for the driving so not my favourite person.

:18:05. > :18:19.I do not think you are alone in that opinion. Take us through this one. A

:18:20. > :18:24.place in the final? There is Bertrand, didn't know he had all of

:18:25. > :18:44.those names, world champion and this guy, well, he is a menace, sun Yang.

:18:45. > :18:50.This will be an interesting semi-final. Not that quick, James

:18:51. > :18:55.Guy was third. It would be highly unusual for seven of the swimmers,

:18:56. > :19:08.six of the swimmers to beat that time. It is certainly possible. The

:19:09. > :19:27.third fastest. Fraser homes from Australia. USA in three. Yang for

:19:28. > :19:30.China. Le Clos. After the final last night, brilliant swim, a bit rusty

:19:31. > :19:33.in the beginning and came through strong. Le Clos out like a rocket,

:19:34. > :19:49.died off. Second semi-final of the men's 200

:19:50. > :19:54.metre freestyle. Amazing start. If you stop the race right now it is on

:19:55. > :20:00.the start, look at that, must be nearly a second. Le Clos is a

:20:01. > :20:06.brilliant fly swimmer and when you use the kick to the advantage this

:20:07. > :20:12.is what happens. He did this in the morning heat. A big kick. You have

:20:13. > :20:20.to take a big breath to stay under. A bit of a downside to it. He is a

:20:21. > :20:25.length ahead and the rest of the field will start to wind him in. You

:20:26. > :20:31.saw this in the heat. After 60 metres he is a body ahead of Yang in

:20:32. > :20:36.lane four, the fastest qualifier. World Championship silver-medallist.

:20:37. > :20:44.He goes a bit deeper. Five kicks underwater. Le Clos first. A slow

:20:45. > :20:52.straight to the right, the black cap, slower than two. Yang coming

:20:53. > :20:56.level with Le Clos. I think Le Clos will have to watch himself. He

:20:57. > :21:03.stroke is getting ropey. He is a fighter. He would dig in and fight.

:21:04. > :21:08.50 metres to go, this is going to hurt for Le Clos. He has gone far

:21:09. > :21:14.too fast. He is looking at Yang. He is having a go, well done for that.

:21:15. > :21:19.Yang starting to go and he looks very good indeed. Look at that. Le

:21:20. > :21:27.Clos took almost a body length of Yang in the first 15 and now Yang

:21:28. > :21:34.has done the same to Le Clos. The time, it is OK, not that great.

:21:35. > :21:49.Hagino was second and the Russian was third. Yang dominating. That

:21:50. > :21:55.particular race. At least his heart problem is better. I tell you what

:21:56. > :22:01.was happening there. James Guy has made it in by one 100th of a second.

:22:02. > :22:07.That was an important third place. Wasn't it just. Fraser homes has

:22:08. > :22:18.come sixth in this. Missed out by one 100th. This is the start. Le

:22:19. > :22:31.Clos went out very strongly. I am reeling a it from that. We have seen

:22:32. > :22:41.two races, tonight and this morning. Only 24 more hours before the

:22:42. > :22:50.qualifiers will get to go again. He waited until the final term. I am a

:22:51. > :22:59.bit worried. I am not sure he will be able to get it. Who is going to

:23:00. > :23:09.get Yang, who is going to catch him. He is going to go a second ahead of

:23:10. > :23:19.Hagino. You lined me up for that one, you did. Oh dear. Hundreds of a

:23:20. > :23:24.second count massively. I continue when a second that Yang certainly

:23:25. > :23:33.winning the final, second semi-final. Hagino second.

:23:34. > :23:39.Fraser-Holmes misses by one 100th. James Guy is in. In eighth. He will

:23:40. > :23:45.have a very good lane. He is going to have no messy water at random at

:23:46. > :23:57.all, clean water. He is going to be next in Hagino. He made it into the

:23:58. > :24:01.final by one 100th of a second. But as you said it doesn't matter, it is

:24:02. > :24:06.just about getting into the final. That is all he had to do, just get

:24:07. > :24:10.to the final. He needs to go home and rest. He is sharing a room, an

:24:11. > :24:16.apartment with Adam Peaty. Things might be a bit loud tonight. What

:24:17. > :24:22.would you do, stick around and watch your team become a potential Olympic

:24:23. > :24:26.champion or be out there? They have drug testing, swim down, stretching,

:24:27. > :24:31.physio, they are here for another two hours after we go home to bed.

:24:32. > :24:37.Guarantee he will watch his roommate in the breaststroke. He will do the

:24:38. > :24:40.interviews, have a quick swim. When you are on the team you want to

:24:41. > :24:45.watch your team-mates. Admittedly he needs to rest but he is not going to

:24:46. > :24:52.miss out on that. It is only 57 seconds. How would it have worked in

:24:53. > :24:54.terms of him watching the second semifinals, watching in the

:24:55. > :24:58.background? Definitely. At the end of the line are the back. They have

:24:59. > :25:06.got a screen and will be watching. Back to you Jason. Thank you very

:25:07. > :25:10.much. The reason you are coming back to the studio, I want to show you

:25:11. > :25:12.what is happening in the tennis. Jamie Murray and Andy Murray,

:25:13. > :26:27.unbelievable stuff. What a shot from Murray! He has got

:26:28. > :26:32.exquisite touch. Britain never needed it more than in that point.

:26:33. > :26:35.Look at that. Full stretch a couple of times. With a single hand.

:30:19. > :30:23.Peaty. We have to get through the whole swimming programme. We just

:30:24. > :30:28.miss the first semi-final of the women's 100 metre butterfly. Chloe

:32:47. > :33:01.Hopefully I can go back and look at what I can improve on. This is your

:44:35. > :44:37.been double world champion, the European champion and finally,

:44:38. > :44:46.finally she has got the medal she strived for. Fourth in London,

:44:47. > :45:14.heartbroken. Olympic champion women's Butterfly. From Sweden.

:45:15. > :45:23.Sarah two. Fantastic. No better way. Sarah Sjostrom. There has been some

:47:08. > :47:14.world record. 55.4 eight. Congratulations, Sarah Sjostrom.

:47:15. > :47:26.Coached by a Briton. You never know, we could see two the dish swimmers

:47:27. > :47:32.on the podium tonight. Jazz and Adam, the moment he could be Olympic

:47:33. > :47:36.champion. For people who have not been following Adam, talk us through

:47:37. > :47:39.the journey he has been on. It is just incredible. I can remember

:47:40. > :47:46.going on a bike ride with Adam, four years ago and he has gone leaps and

:47:47. > :47:52.bounds. Commonwealth Championships, world records, sports personality,

:47:53. > :47:57.he has had everything thrust upon him and he has gone from strength to

:47:58. > :48:04.strength. I don't think he has lost a race in that time. To come into

:48:05. > :48:10.your first Olympics and have, even if he does not get the gold medal he

:48:11. > :48:16.can be so proud of how he has done yesterday. Get in the world record.

:48:17. > :48:20.It has been a case of blowing away the cobwebs and making the most of

:48:21. > :48:27.it but not for Adam. People getting in touch saying he has been such an

:48:28. > :48:33.inspiration. Adam has been working on his technique, he has been

:48:34. > :48:37.getting better week in and week out. We have moaned and complained that

:48:38. > :48:43.in the past he has given away half a body length at the start. You can't

:48:44. > :48:48.give away one 100th of a second level and half a body length. This

:48:49. > :48:55.is him in the World Championships last year. If you look at him in

:48:56. > :49:01.lane five, he gave half of a length away to Cameron and has to chase all

:49:02. > :49:09.the way down the first and that is quite tiring and it makes your --

:49:10. > :49:18.makes you rush your stroke. You will see a dramatic improvement. He is in

:49:19. > :49:23.the middle, Lane four. Will he have picked it apart... There he is. It

:49:24. > :49:29.is an easy thing to improve. Not that easy but the problem is, when

:49:30. > :49:35.you can see that there is so much to improve by improving one thing. He

:49:36. > :49:41.is trying to be one of the best in the world. I was speaking to his

:49:42. > :49:45.coat earlier on in the year and she is like, I have done everything with

:49:46. > :49:51.him. They have picked apart every part of his stroke. He has been in

:49:52. > :50:00.the gymnasium and is meaningful. He improves by .01 everytime. It has

:50:01. > :50:04.been a stigma for him. He has got frustrated but it has come together

:50:05. > :50:08.at the right time. Whatever they have done has obviously worked. It

:50:09. > :50:13.is doing a number of different things to help him get the perfect

:50:14. > :50:17.start. If you have been doing something wrong, don't continue to

:50:18. > :50:24.practise something that is wrong, you have got to change it. Then

:50:25. > :50:27.things come right. Every little detail they have looked out and

:50:28. > :50:34.starting to get it right and you see the improvements now. Last time they

:50:35. > :50:46.had a champion in de Sareen call was in 1988 and he is in the commentary

:50:47. > :50:52.box. He is way ahead of the rest of the field. He is 1.4, 1.5 seconds

:50:53. > :50:57.ahead coming in and on the day, yesterday and today he is that far

:50:58. > :51:02.ahead. It is his to grasp. He has got to go and get it and that is all

:51:03. > :51:11.that is left. He has got the talent to do it. It was great to listen to

:51:12. > :51:16.his girlfriend talking about, he is thinking about what is left in the

:51:17. > :51:21.tank. I would love to see Great Britain beat the world record. He is

:51:22. > :51:24.in the room getting for his race. It is down to him completely and all we

:51:25. > :51:34.can do is speculate until he finally delivers it. How excited are you? I

:51:35. > :51:38.have to say, it is a funny feeling because I have been commentating for

:51:39. > :51:51.28 years and have never commentated on a British Olympic male medallist.

:51:52. > :52:03.Have had female but not men. 20 years ago I was swimming in Seoul. I

:52:04. > :52:08.think Adam Peaty will be fine if he is mentally OK. Physically he is

:52:09. > :52:13.fine. Sharron Davies has seen him through his hit, how confident

:52:14. > :52:22.argued he will be limping champion? I hate saying it I think he probably

:52:23. > :52:27.stands the best chance of anybody. He has seen Sarah set the world

:52:28. > :52:32.record and he wants to do it again. Thank you. We know she gets very

:52:33. > :52:37.excited so I will enjoy jumping around in the flip-flops. I suspect

:52:38. > :52:45.she will not be the only one. Have fun with this one.

:52:46. > :52:53.Thank you. This is brilliant. Really brilliant. All of a sudden looking

:52:54. > :52:57.forward to this massively. Not least of which, the atmosphere is going to

:52:58. > :53:02.be utterly tremendous because you have just heard the crowd for the

:53:03. > :53:16.slower of the two Brazilians in this race. This is the second, the world

:53:17. > :53:34.short-course champion. He is a big way, has a barrel of a chest. Former

:53:35. > :53:41.Spanish Restorick champion. The crowd is going crazy. Kevin Cordes.

:53:42. > :53:49.This is set up for Adam Peaty of Britain. From Japan, Lane number

:53:50. > :53:53.six. The fourth fastest qualifier. And then the former world record

:53:54. > :53:57.holder, it used to be his and now it is Adam Peaty's he has destroyed by

:53:58. > :54:05.almost a second. Can he get close to? The Japanese guy has just gone

:54:06. > :54:20.out of the shot. He has been swimming really well. He will be

:54:21. > :54:31.after the gun. Cody Miller, the faster of the two Americans. The

:54:32. > :54:41.world champion, European champion, he needs this to join the most

:54:42. > :54:45.exclusive club in the world. Olympic history, Great Britain have won 15

:54:46. > :55:02.Olympics in golds. Can Adam Peaty win our 16th? -- 15 Olympic golds.

:55:03. > :55:08.You stand on the block, look down the lane and imagine what will

:55:09. > :55:13.happen next. You have got control of the dive.

:55:14. > :55:20.It is about getting a world-class dive. He has been working on it for

:55:21. > :55:28.at least a year. Enter the stroke and go. The atmosphere is fantastic.

:55:29. > :55:36.The Brazilian commentators are going nuts. I hope he quietened down in a

:55:37. > :55:42.second. Olympic final. Men's 100 metre breaststroke. Adam Peaty the

:55:43. > :55:51.world record holder in four, the red hat of Great Britain.

:55:52. > :56:02.Good start from Adam Peaty. He is up and this is a good start from him.

:56:03. > :56:12.Also very good is the ex- world record holder from South Africa.

:56:13. > :56:22.Adam Peaty is streaking ahead. A great first lane. The world record,

:56:23. > :56:27.he is ahead of it. Adam Peaty can see and feel band of Ergon his

:56:28. > :56:39.shoulder. He is a body length ahead. He has got 25 metres to go and hits

:56:40. > :56:44.the lane. This is extraordinary. Oceans of clear water between Adam

:56:45. > :56:49.Peaty and the rest of the world. Adam Peaty takes Olympic gold for

:56:50. > :56:57.Great Britain by an absolute street. A wonderful world record. 57.7 13.

:56:58. > :57:07.He has obliterated the world record. Olympic champion, gold medal, Adam

:57:08. > :57:11.Peaty of Great Britain. That is stunning. Absolutely stunning. You

:57:12. > :57:17.have a very happy Cody Miller next him with an American record. Adam

:57:18. > :57:25.Peaty delivered when it counted and in some style it gives me great

:57:26. > :57:35.pleasure to be sat here. Goodness me. Goodness me, what does it mean?

:57:36. > :57:39.I remember a similar picture of you doing exactly that, gold medal in

:57:40. > :57:44.the 100 metre breaststroke. It has been 28 years we have been waiting

:57:45. > :57:52.for it and Adam Peaty, a massive world record, he has won the race by

:57:53. > :57:57.1.5 seconds. Phenomenal. He has been working on his dive. We will get the

:57:58. > :58:02.replay. It made a big difference. Strong shoulders, strong out of the

:58:03. > :58:07.water. Hands together. One of the best in the world. Rolling the

:58:08. > :58:12.breaststroke. This stroke uses his hips are really well. He is one of

:58:13. > :58:22.the only ones that takes only one flight kit under the water as well,

:58:23. > :58:27.or some, powerful. --1 kick. Bandido, the former Olympic champion

:58:28. > :58:32.is way out of sight, a body length. There is clear water between him and

:58:33. > :58:38.the rest of the world. Clearwater on the 100 breaststroke, boom! I would

:58:39. > :58:50.like to think it is a certainty... Can we put the medal on his neck

:58:51. > :59:05.now? You can now. Confirmation of a wonderful result for Adam Peaty. The

:59:06. > :59:12.silver to be ex- Olympic medallist, Cameron van der Burgh of South

:59:13. > :59:19.Africa. I can't stop crying! Absolutely unbelievable. Adam Peaty

:59:20. > :59:31.smashed his own world record. He is Olympic champion. How does that

:59:32. > :59:36.feel, mum? I am ecstatic. I don't know where he has got the power. Was

:59:37. > :59:50.that the longest minute of your life, girlfriend Anna? What about

:59:51. > :59:59.you, dad? I have lost my voice. World record in a matter of two

:00:00. > :00:04.days. This is you watching the moment. Your boy. Olympic champion.

:00:05. > :00:15.He has been building up to this for years. Were you cheering him on? I

:00:16. > :00:23.felt the most of the race you were waving him.

:00:24. > :00:28.Bowe Bergdahl is catching him up! No, it is close. I think, no, it

:00:29. > :00:33.doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Then he just went. Over the years,

:00:34. > :00:38.how does this compare? Yes, he is Olympic champion. Yes, he is world

:00:39. > :00:43.record holder, woirn, European champion. We think - he's gone to

:00:44. > :00:49.Sharon! Adam Peaty! Let's hear from him. Crazy. Adam! Fantastic. You

:00:50. > :00:52.become Brynne east first gold medal. Your parents are there, they have

:00:53. > :00:57.gone crazy. Wondered where they were! There. They can hear you. If

:00:58. > :01:02.you want to speak to them, by all means speak to them. The whole

:01:03. > :01:06.nation is watching you. Yeah. So surreal to get Team GB's first gold.

:01:07. > :01:11.This is a product of seven years of work, as I said the other day. I

:01:12. > :01:15.came out tonight, teed up the first 50 easy, and came back with

:01:16. > :01:18.everything I have got. It isn't everything, it it's... Everything I

:01:19. > :01:22.have done the past few years. More importantly I did it for my country.

:01:23. > :01:25.It means so much. Talk about your team. You guys have been a couple

:01:26. > :01:30.for a long time. She's worked very hard with you. She's had her own

:01:31. > :01:35.disappointments. Right now she doesn't care one iota about those. I

:01:36. > :01:39.am not just saying it, she is one of the best coaches, not because she

:01:40. > :01:43.ends me up and down the pool, but she understands the athletes, the

:01:44. > :01:46.need and character, and understands everyone is different. Tonight she

:01:47. > :01:52.didn't have to get my pumped up, because I knew the arena would be

:01:53. > :01:56.absolutely perfect for me. The 50, I am waiting, I am getting an Olympic

:01:57. > :02:05.Gold! That is what carried me through every stroke. Amazing. Well

:02:06. > :02:10.done. We will watch jazz Min -- Jasmine. Can't wit. Start of the

:02:11. > :02:14.medal watch. Get down off the ceiling! Talk us through the final.

:02:15. > :02:23.That is where both of us are. Completely on the ceiling. Looking

:02:24. > :02:31.down at the next final. At establish medal hope. The it will be awfully

:02:32. > :02:46.difficult to beat Katy Ledecky, the 19-year-old sensation from the USA.

:02:47. > :02:54.. 400m freestyle final. US in 3 and 4, Smith and Katy Ledecky, the

:02:55. > :03:00.superstar in 4. Jazz Carlin is five in the red hat. She has a slightly

:03:01. > :03:08.slower start. An April and 800m freestyler. I would suggest she

:03:09. > :03:14.needs to move away from Katy Ledecky. You are right. She has to

:03:15. > :03:25.settle into her own rhythm, does Jazz Carlin. She needs let Katy

:03:26. > :03:35.Ledecky do what she has to do. 2 is going well, Canada. You have Carlin,

:03:36. > :03:43.second in the European champions. Ledecky doing what we saw... Not the

:03:44. > :03:48.400. That is only 100 done. She is 0.82 under world record. When she

:03:49. > :03:54.did the world record, she put in a couple of 60s. 60hunt 5 and 4.

:03:55. > :03:58.Ledecky well ahead of world record pace. Jazz Carlin has an awesome

:03:59. > :04:03.chance of a silver medal. I can't tell you enough about that. A great

:04:04. > :04:08.chance. She started well. She doesn't normally start so quick.

:04:09. > :04:14.Third at the 100, Jazz Carlin. Red hat in the centre. All about Ledecky

:04:15. > :04:21.and how much she will break her own world record by. Going well up in 2

:04:22. > :04:27.is the Canadian. Canada have a good meet. First Katy Ledecky, third

:04:28. > :04:32.still Jazz Carlin. Jazz does look good. If you look at the line,

:04:33. > :04:39.Carlin has established a second place. Keep an eye out on Smith in

:04:40. > :04:44.lane 3, very similar, a 23-year-old from the University of Virginia. Her

:04:45. > :04:51.best time is 4 minutes. Smith has a strong, strong second 100. 1.19

:04:52. > :05:02.under world record. Ledecky watched a couple go. Just past the halfway.

:05:03. > :05:07.Ledecky, streets ahead. The great news for Great Britain - she is in

:05:08. > :05:12.second place is Jazz Carlin, the Commonwealth champion of the 800m

:05:13. > :05:16.freestyle. This is the 400 so she should have stamina. Jazz Carlin is

:05:17. > :05:21.looking great, starting to swim away for the ris for the silver, bronze,

:05:22. > :05:28.fourth and giveth. It is all able fine Fien Leadsom Damien Fleming Led

:05:29. > :05:33.-- Ledecky. She is using her best experience. She's been in some great

:05:34. > :05:37.major meets before, seen Adam Peaty get the gold medal. She's sometimes

:05:38. > :05:40.gets nervous and got rid of that this morning. She said she felt good

:05:41. > :05:50.after the heats. She is in a great position. Watch, he is chasing

:05:51. > :06:00.close! Not sure if she will catch Katy Ledecky. 80m to go. Ledecky -

:06:01. > :06:04.it is just how much she breaks her own world record by. The computer

:06:05. > :06:08.generated line right on her feet. Great news for Great Britain - Wales

:06:09. > :06:17.Jazz Carlin in silver medal position. Holding well, but charging

:06:18. > :06:19.is Smith of the USA in 3. Smith finishes strongly.

:06:20. > :06:26.CHEERING . Jazz Carlin has to deep dip. A

:06:27. > :06:31.brilliant Olympic gold medallist, Katy Ledecky. She's world champion

:06:32. > :06:36.in 200, 400, 800 and 1500. Katy Ledecky of the US is going to

:06:37. > :06:42.obliterate her world record! She is going to probably come 5.56. Look at

:06:43. > :06:47.this! The world champion becomes the Olympic champion! It is Ledecky, the

:06:48. > :06:52.silver to Jazz Carlin! Wonderful! Silver medal for Great Britain! An

:06:53. > :06:56.April and swim. A lifetime best! Well done Jazz! Silver ploek med

:06:57. > :07:06.natural the 400 freestyle! Brilliant. I tell you what - some

:07:07. > :07:12.supertives required! Good job we are near the ceiling. We are near the

:07:13. > :07:19.roof. A brilliant swim. Smith is going 3.56! Wow! Jazz Carlin

:07:20. > :07:24.delivered a strong swim there. She couldn't have done more. She hasn't

:07:25. > :07:28.put a foot wrong in this meet, Jazz Carlin. I am really impressed. Most

:07:29. > :07:32.impressed, how she dealt with it mentally. It's not easy to come in

:07:33. > :07:36.the Olympic final and be placed in a medal position and deal with it.

:07:37. > :07:41.Certainly next to a superstar like Ledecky. She's just dealt with it so

:07:42. > :07:45.well! Silver! I think she dealt with the first 100m well. You see here,

:07:46. > :07:52.Ledecky had the full body length at 100m. Not sure if this is where

:07:53. > :07:59.it... This is the 100m turn. Ledecky already had a lead. For Carlin to

:08:00. > :08:04.say, "I will stick to my pace, control way can control." The

:08:05. > :08:08.challenge is also holding off Smith. She knows Smith is a strong fin

:08:09. > :08:12.near. I saw her breathing to the right. She dug in, I think, and

:08:13. > :08:15.decided not to look at Smith. Good half a body length ahead.

:08:16. > :08:19.CHEERING 7-10ths of a second she won the

:08:20. > :08:28.silver by. Not a small margin at all. Wow! Well done Jazz Carlin!

:08:29. > :08:32.David McNuttily, her coach, brilliant! The race from the gun, it

:08:33. > :08:38.was all about Ledecky. I am sure he will go on and wind the 800. Could

:08:39. > :08:43.even win the 200 as well. It is world record and Olympic champion

:08:44. > :08:51.for Katy Ledecky of the US. Jazz Carlin, a brilliant silver. Leah

:08:52. > :08:57.Smith, the bronze for the USA. Incredible! Silver. Brilliant scenes

:08:58. > :09:02.in the pool, because we have already had one gold medal, congratulations

:09:03. > :09:07.team Peaty. This is only one part. Have your legs stopped staking yet?

:09:08. > :09:11.Just act! I suspect the tears will start again, because we are getting

:09:12. > :09:18.ready tore the Medal Ceremony. Guys hang here. Enjoy the moment. Nanna

:09:19. > :09:25.Mavis, if you are all right, let us know because they are worried that

:09:26. > :09:30.you have got over exited! Enjoy. Let's chat about Jazz Carlin. Dault

:09:31. > :09:33.they have been crying for Adam, crying for Jazz. I asked Becky to

:09:34. > :09:37.marry me! LAUGHTER

:09:38. > :09:43.Jazz Carlin - how impressive was that? She wait sod long to be at the

:09:44. > :09:49.Games to get that medal - she wasn't believe it! I am going to start

:09:50. > :09:52.crying again. So, so, pleased for Adam. Does deserve it. I can't

:09:53. > :09:56.imagine anyone deserving it more than Adam. Then for Jazz, she would

:09:57. > :10:00.have got pumped in that room seeing that race. She came out there, swam

:10:01. > :10:04.her own race next to one who is miles ahead, breaking that world

:10:05. > :10:09.record, which was incredible. She swam her own race. Did it

:10:10. > :10:14.brilliantly. So controlled. She looked so smooth. That was a Welsh

:10:15. > :10:19.record. A huge PB! So, so, pleases she had the silver medal. Deserves

:10:20. > :10:23.it. Been there so much over the past few years. I am starting to cry! She

:10:24. > :10:28.entered the water - Mark, you started to scream because you were

:10:29. > :10:33.like, "That is good." She hasn't got any speed. She has! She has now!

:10:34. > :10:37.Yeah. We see her normally... She paces at the back and tries to come

:10:38. > :10:43.back on people. We knew Ledecky was going to be gone. You knew she was

:10:44. > :10:48.going to do that. It was going - the silver was going to be her gold.

:10:49. > :10:54.That was a huge swim. She had to keep composed. She was like still at

:10:55. > :10:59.the lane going like this. Did that just happen! The other day she said,

:11:00. > :11:03."I can't believe I am here." I was like, "No, you belong at the Olympic

:11:04. > :11:08.Games." We can hear from Jazz Carlin because she is with Sharyn now. I

:11:09. > :11:14.know! Congratulations, darling. I am so pleased for you! I can't believe

:11:15. > :11:18.it. I am on the edge of tears, because it isn't really sunk in at

:11:19. > :11:21.all. I knew it was going to be a tough race. Katie breaking the world

:11:22. > :11:26.record, trying to stick to her and have a great race. I didn't want to

:11:27. > :11:30.be stuck at the back, trying to chase for the model -- medals. I

:11:31. > :11:31.can't believe the time! I'm so happy!

:11:32. > :11:36.LAUGHTER Cool and Clive Palmer and collected.

:11:37. > :11:41.This has been a long time coming. Tell me about how disappointed you

:11:42. > :11:46.were four years ago and how hard you worked in between. Obviously four

:11:47. > :11:49.years ago I was sat in the aquatic stadium, watching from the

:11:50. > :11:53.sidelines, cheering. This time I am in the pool and won a medal. I

:11:54. > :11:58.watched Adam break the world record and win the gold. That was a special

:11:59. > :12:02.feeling. I now I had to try to stay relaxed and calm. To come away with

:12:03. > :12:05.a smile very - I am gobsmacked! Speechless! So pleased for you.

:12:06. > :12:09.Congratulations. Thank you so much! LAUGHTER

:12:10. > :12:15.Huge congratulations Jazz Carlin. Lessee if success can bread success.

:12:16. > :12:28.Walker goes in the semifinal of the mens 100m backstroke. China with the

:12:29. > :12:31.yellow hat. Murphy of the US in five. First semifinal of the men's

:12:32. > :12:44.100 backstroke. On rain Shane of Ireland is in 1. A

:12:45. > :12:55.new Irish record holder. He is going well at the top.

:12:56. > :13:03.25:50, the turn. Murphy is trying to stay with him. A good underwater

:13:04. > :13:07.turn from the American. Using all the 15... The quality of these two

:13:08. > :13:11.is starting to show. The good guys making a massive difference. Hard to

:13:12. > :13:14.make it up for the rest of the world. Great Britain is going well.

:13:15. > :13:19.Possible in fifth. Maybe starting to spin a little up there in lane 2.

:13:20. > :13:23.She is going to have to work to make the final. Off the world record

:13:24. > :13:31.pace. First to finish here is Murphy of the US. Second is Xu. Rylov

:13:32. > :13:40.third. Great Britain was sixth. I don't think that is going to be good

:13:41. > :13:45.enough for the final. Murphy swam well. 53:0s in the heats this

:13:46. > :13:50.morning. That didn't look great. A bit of cat and mouse. Interesting.

:13:51. > :13:55.Walker having a disappointed time. Look at lane 1. Over the lane rope

:13:56. > :14:00.on the left of the screen. Did an extra metre underwater. I think

:14:01. > :14:07.Murphy, strong towards the end. Xu took the race out. Murphy blading.

:14:08. > :14:11.Nice big old glide.n't arm stroke ahead. I think we will struggle with

:14:12. > :14:16.sixth. Yeah. I don't think he will make it to the second semi. Not just

:14:17. > :14:20.the 100 break stroke. This is important for the medry. With Great

:14:21. > :14:25.Britain's Adam Peaty so far ahead of the rest of the world, if we can get

:14:26. > :14:29.Chris up for that final, hopefully into the final of the men's 4 x 400,

:14:30. > :14:31.then you have Peaty tonne breaststroke. We could be leading at

:14:32. > :14:38.halfway! That would be a strong race! Peaty will take a lot out of

:14:39. > :14:39.the rest of the field. You do need Chris to get among it. Peaty can

:14:40. > :15:50.deal with the second, sisters, the Murray brothers.

:15:51. > :15:57.Sensational victory for the man from Argentina absolutely brilliant. Just

:15:58. > :16:03.take a look at these pictures of Novak Djokovic visibly emotional.

:16:04. > :16:07.Also suffered a premature exit at Wimbledon last month. He boughs out

:16:08. > :16:15.of the Olympics at the first hurdle. Really wanted this gold-medal. Juan

:16:16. > :16:19.Martin del Potro played absolutely brilliantly tonight. Look at that.

:16:20. > :16:22.That is what it means to knock out the world number one. Look at the

:16:23. > :16:29.pictures of Novak Djokovic. Absolutely heartbroken is the

:16:30. > :16:35.Serbian. Meanwhile there are maybe two years come in the next couple of

:16:36. > :16:39.days because Brazil are goalless against Iraq. This is available on

:16:40. > :16:45.the Red Button. They have not scored a goal yet in the tournament, the

:16:46. > :16:51.men's football, 0-0 against South Africa a few days ago. Neymar is

:16:52. > :16:59.looking really rattled. The Iraqis have got stuck into him. Kicking the

:17:00. > :17:04.ball at the Iraqi. Looking pretty angry, isn't he? There we are. If

:17:05. > :17:08.you want some football it is available on the Red Button. We go

:17:09. > :17:13.back to the swimming pool. I am delighted for Adam Peaty, gold-medal

:17:14. > :17:22.and allow me celebration for Jazz Carlin of Wales. We will all be down

:17:23. > :17:27.thing. What an unbelievable night. Jazz Carlin, phenomenal silver

:17:28. > :17:38.medal. Adam Peaty, Olivia champion, world record holder. -- Olympic

:17:39. > :17:49.champion. Take us through it. We are joined by the Romanian. Probably

:17:50. > :18:01.heard the raw. The 29 Euroa, probation for him there is Josh

:18:02. > :18:07.Beaver from Australia. David Plummer of the USA. 30 years of age. The

:18:08. > :18:16.average age is going up in world swimming. This guy, gold-medal

:18:17. > :18:29.tomorrow night? Mitch Larkin stunned with a double gold medal. 23 years

:18:30. > :18:34.of age. I was impressed with Lacourt. Coming back very strongly

:18:35. > :18:49.and look, he has got a beautiful technique. Quite a handsome chap as

:18:50. > :19:01.well. All flustered. LAUGHTER He is a great looking chap and a good

:19:02. > :19:06.bracts -- backstroker. He could be a real spoiler. Not too many people

:19:07. > :19:13.talking about him for gold. The French commentators were saying he

:19:14. > :19:17.looked very comfortable indeed. Fastest qualifier in the heats

:19:18. > :19:31.through to the semis. The German in eight.

:19:32. > :19:39.Lacourt and Larkin and I think Larkin may turn it up. Interesting

:19:40. > :19:50.to watch him in the heats this morning. Working very hard. Turnover

:19:51. > :19:55.was quick, bashing around. Favourite for the 200 backstroke certainly and

:19:56. > :20:04.could win the 100 and 200. A little shelf for his feet. Just hangs off

:20:05. > :20:11.the blocks. You see the little white tape holding it. Put your feet on so

:20:12. > :20:16.they don't it. Second semi-final 100 men's backstroke.

:20:17. > :20:25.The Aussies in five and six. Mitch Larkin and the fastest qualifier,

:20:26. > :20:41.Lacourt from France in four. All eyes straightaway and Lacourt in

:20:42. > :20:52.Lane four. Going out quite strongly. Plummer. The world record,

:20:53. > :21:01.Pearson's. The mornings and was quite slow but the record from 2009.

:21:02. > :21:04.-- the morning was quite slow. This is very quick indeed and Plummer is

:21:05. > :21:15.on the lane line and it will be really close. Maybe Plummer, maybe

:21:16. > :21:21.Lacourt. Larkin came through as well under 52.7. That is going to be a

:21:22. > :21:25.wonderful final. One of those guys tomorrow night will not get a medal.

:21:26. > :21:31.Can you imagine going 52.7 not getting a medal at the Olympics?

:21:32. > :21:39.Plummer needs to get away from the lane line in the last 15 metres.

:21:40. > :21:48.Good reactions there from lane seven. Even pointing the toes.

:21:49. > :22:04.Streamlined everywhere, the swimmers. Neymar to turnout was

:22:05. > :22:13.brilliant. -- Lacourt's turnout. We thought he had got in for second.

:22:14. > :22:21.Larkin gliding. Lacourt a bit far out before he made his jump. There

:22:22. > :22:26.is the winner of the second semi-final of the 100 metre men's

:22:27. > :22:29.backstroke, David Plummer from the USA. Ninth in the World

:22:30. > :22:35.Championships last year. Fastest qualifier into the final.

:22:36. > :22:38.Confirmation of the result of the second semi-final of the 100 metre

:22:39. > :22:48.backstroke: The qualifiers for the final,

:22:49. > :23:16.fastest in will de Plummer. Unfortunately no Chris Walker in the

:23:17. > :23:19.final of that one but what a phenomenally evening. If you haven't

:23:20. > :23:25.been with us in the last half an hour you are a fool. We have seen

:23:26. > :23:29.Adam Peaty crowned Olympic champion. Mark Foster is getting emotional.

:23:30. > :23:34.Talk us through this brilliant moment in British swimming.

:23:35. > :23:37.Everything went right. He has had a problem with his start in the last

:23:38. > :23:42.few years. He has worked tirelessly and we thought he wasn't getting

:23:43. > :23:46.anywhere 34 months ago but everything came right. 26 .6 hour on

:23:47. > :23:57.the first leg. All of a sudden he is leading. At 25

:23:58. > :24:07.metres I kind of new and to win by 1.5 seconds, break the world

:24:08. > :24:10.record... For Adam at the world records last year he was chasing all

:24:11. > :24:14.the way but this is a different story. He led from the get go. His

:24:15. > :24:19.stroke and power, when you look at him technically is just incredible.

:24:20. > :24:22.Especially the underwater shot. It shows how powerful his legs are. I

:24:23. > :24:29.thought he was tightening up a bit at the end. Getting overexcited! And

:24:30. > :24:38.smashed the world record again by that much. He likes to break it in

:24:39. > :24:45.big chunks. Physiologically he is an absolute beast. That guy has got

:24:46. > :24:53.everything. Mentally he is a young man to be proud of. Andy Jamieson,

:24:54. > :24:59.Adrian take us through the medal ceremony for Adam Peaty. Thank you,

:25:00. > :25:03.Helen, I will do my best. Emotions flying everywhere. This is wonderful

:25:04. > :25:12.to see. What a night for British swimming. Knights number two of the

:25:13. > :25:17.Rio Olympic Games. -- it is night number two. The gold and silver

:25:18. > :25:27.tonight. In 2012 it was a silver and two bronzes. The gold medal for Adam

:25:28. > :25:32.Peaty and of course, Jazz Carlin, silver and probably her second-best

:25:33. > :25:39.event because the 800 free is the best surely. Absolutely. Looking

:25:40. > :25:47.forward to seeing Jazz on the podium.

:25:48. > :26:01.Quite a few supporters of the British flag behind him. It is a

:26:02. > :26:12.very tight arena this one. The bronze medal on the men's 100 metre

:26:13. > :26:21.breast it goes to Kevin sorry, to the USA. Born in Las Vegas. Night at

:26:22. > :26:31.the World Championships last year and now the bronze, Corey Miller. A

:26:32. > :26:40.new American record, 58.87. Miller improved every round. Did

:26:41. > :26:52.fantastically well. The new American record. What did Adam Peaty do?

:26:53. > :26:54.Absolutely brilliant. 57.1 three. He was Olympic champion four years ago

:26:55. > :26:59.in London and that was wonderful and now it is silver for Cameron van der

:27:00. > :27:05.Burgh from South Africa. It was a good swim. Just outside his lifetime

:27:06. > :27:14.best. The old world record. Now it is looking a very old world record

:27:15. > :27:19.indeed, what Adam Peaty has done to it. The Union Jack has been draped

:27:20. > :27:28.over either side of Adam Peaty. He is looking up to his left. He's a

:27:29. > :27:43.good guy, Cameron van der Burgh. Not his time now. Get the silver and

:27:44. > :27:49.very deserving Olympic champion. Wonderful moment. Olympic champion.

:27:50. > :27:57.Great Britain's Adam Peaty. A new world record in doing so. The time

:27:58. > :28:04.57.1 three. Utterly destroyed the world record and the fastest field

:28:05. > :28:09.in history. Clearwater between him and the silver and bronze

:28:10. > :28:19.medallists. Great Britain's Adam Peaty wins gold in the 100

:28:20. > :28:27.breaststroke. He joins an exclusive club as well. Olympic champion men's

:28:28. > :29:28.100 metre breaststroke, Adam Peaty. There is his family! Adam Peaty,

:29:29. > :29:33.Olympic champion, men's 100m brees stroker. 57-1. The way he did it -

:29:34. > :29:44.took it out from the start. 0. 6 of a second ahead at the 50m. Won by a

:29:45. > :29:49.streak, a # 1.5 seconds. An Olympic champion. Cool as a cucumber. All

:29:50. > :30:02.way through to receiving the gold medal around his neck. It is a

:30:03. > :30:05.wonderful sight! I am very proud to be here comment stating on this --

:30:06. > :30:12.commentating on this. The tradition carries on. Great that he could get

:30:13. > :30:19.Britain's first gold medal. And great his parents could be here to

:30:20. > :30:21.see it as well. There we go! What a great shot!

:30:22. > :30:32.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE What a fantastic shot! Walking, his

:30:33. > :30:38.parents, the people who have supported him all the way through.

:30:39. > :30:46.It is interesting. I once had a conversation with my dad over a pint

:30:47. > :30:50.about how it felt, when he was in the same place. He said he felt

:30:51. > :30:58.helpless actually. But very proud. It is an interesting moment for a

:30:59. > :31:01.parent. To give your child the opportunity to sacrifice and to give

:31:02. > :31:06.them things you might not have had, but to put them in a position to

:31:07. > :31:13.enjoy this moment... It is wonderful to see. He enjoys the parade around

:31:14. > :31:24.the deck with the Union flag. Wonderful!

:31:25. > :31:33.Brilliant scenes! Britain's first medal of the Olympics! It's gold! It

:31:34. > :31:39.was done in style. Adam Peaty set a new world record in the 100m

:31:40. > :31:43.breaststroke. He isn't the only British swimmer to be on the podium.

:31:44. > :31:48.Stick with us because Jazz Carlin has won herself a silver medal!

:31:49. > :31:53.Guys, what a phenomenonal evening! Incredible! We keep shouting at Adam

:31:54. > :31:57.to come up and give his mum and dad a hug. If you hear us screaming that

:31:58. > :32:01.is why. We want them to relish in the moment. His mum and dad are in

:32:02. > :32:06.floods of tears. Rightly so. Amazing! I am so, so pleased.

:32:07. > :32:10.Everybody is in floods of tears. We are all feeling it. It is such an

:32:11. > :32:15.hand and privilege to see someone do that. But, also, a lot of questions

:32:16. > :32:19.are being asked of swimmers. He is a brilliant role model. All of us,

:32:20. > :32:24.when you start out in your career or you are inspired to take up a sport,

:32:25. > :32:28.the pinnacle of your sport is to become an Olympic champion or making

:32:29. > :32:34.the Olympics, first, and then an Olympic champion. I was fortunate

:32:35. > :32:42.enough in my first Olympic Games, to win Andrew Moorhouse. I was younger.

:32:43. > :32:47.Then I got to see Adlington. Then that's the first time I have seen

:32:48. > :32:52.one up here commentating. It is... It dent happen often. Not in

:32:53. > :32:58.Britain. We are not America! That undermines our point. We are going

:32:59. > :33:05.to say the same. Adam's a very... There is only myself and David who

:33:06. > :33:07.have the full set of medals ever! That's Europeans, Commonwealth

:33:08. > :33:11.Games, world championships, and now Olympic. To break a world record at

:33:12. > :33:14.an Olympic Games, I know to strewers they will think it is easy, you

:33:15. > :33:20.should be at your best at the Olympics, but a lot of world records

:33:21. > :33:25.are broken here. I love the look on everyone's faces. Can't stop

:33:26. > :33:31.smiling. I, look lots of you people, have been watching these Games my

:33:32. > :33:34.life, knowing I will never get anywhere near it.

:33:35. > :33:37.LAUGHTER You have done all sorts of crazy

:33:38. > :33:43.stuff. Paddled the Amazon, or something like that! Adam Peaty, not

:33:44. > :33:49.the only one fob b -- to be on the podium. Jazz Carlin! Incredible. The

:33:50. > :33:54.race was phenomenal. Katy Ledecky out there. You have to give credit

:33:55. > :33:58.to Katy. To go a 3.56 is insane! Like, you can't even put that into

:33:59. > :34:02.words. I think last time the Olympics in London was one in about

:34:03. > :34:08.4 minutes. The fact she's dropped such a huge chunk. For Jazz, to

:34:09. > :34:12.stick to her plan, to go with her lane, ignore what Ledecky was doing

:34:13. > :34:16.and to do a huge personal best - so pleased for her. They are going to

:34:17. > :34:21.be absolutely crazy! (LAUGHTER)

:34:22. > :34:25.The mayor's been encouraging everybody to back Adam and support

:34:26. > :34:34.him and people have got behind him, rightly so. In Repton there is a

:34:35. > :34:38.family celebration. Other Olympians. Greig Rutherford is staying up late.

:34:39. > :34:47.Take a bow, Adam Peaty! You beauty. In a class of his own. The most

:34:48. > :34:53.important one - Team Peaty - Nan have # -- Nanna Mavis is fine! She

:34:54. > :34:57.is hosting a house full of reporters and was worried about what food to

:34:58. > :35:02.give them. She is such a down tor earth boy. Grounded. Not from a

:35:03. > :35:09.swimming family. His mum stood here and said, "I don't know where he

:35:10. > :35:13.gets it." The fact he still swum at the club, even at his world records,

:35:14. > :35:17.lives at home with mum and dad. Shows a local person, swimming in

:35:18. > :35:23.their club, that loves swimming and works hard can be on the podium. You

:35:24. > :35:29.have to look at it also. People look at Olympic champions and let's look

:35:30. > :35:34.at Usain Bolt, they look at him as a God, as someone they can't aspire to

:35:35. > :35:40.be. It shows someone from a local pool, training in a local pool, with

:35:41. > :35:44.down tor earth facilitys with achieve great things. Sometimes, in

:35:45. > :35:48.my job, it is easy to make wishy washy statements and say, "There is

:35:49. > :35:51.a legacy and he is an inspiration." That isn't a loose statement. I have

:35:52. > :35:59.messages from dads and mum whose said their kids have been to his

:36:00. > :36:06.swim camps and they love him! He is a great -- with great respect to

:36:07. > :36:12.you, when people achieve sport. When you have a good breaststroke you

:36:13. > :36:18.have someone to aspire. We have had good distance swimmers. Becky, as

:36:19. > :36:23.left a legacy for other people. Jazz has... You try to be the best. That

:36:24. > :36:27.person gives up. Then you are one of the best. You are - we are not

:36:28. > :36:34.talking people who are 50th, we are talking world champions and Olympic

:36:35. > :36:38.champions. The swimming hasn't finished yet, all -- although...

:36:39. > :36:43.Calm down. We need to calm down. It's got hot in here all of a

:36:44. > :36:47.sudden. Hopefully success breeds success. Let's see how Georgia

:36:48. > :37:00.Davies gets on. We have Jazz Carlin's Medal Ceremony coming up a

:37:01. > :37:09.bit later on. That was Wilson, the fourth fastest

:37:10. > :37:16.qualifier, of Australia. These two are the fastest qualifiers. Nielsen

:37:17. > :37:21.of Denmark, the European champion on this 100m backstroke. Bronze med

:37:22. > :37:26.Forrest the Worlds -- medallist from the Worlds last year. Emily Seebohm

:37:27. > :37:31.- what can she done? Disappointed not to win the gold four years ago

:37:32. > :37:37.in London. She is now the word champion. I wonder whether she can

:37:38. > :37:41.get close to Great Britain, Spofforth, the world record she set

:37:42. > :37:45.seven years ago. That is a tight record. Not sure whether Seebohm is

:37:46. > :37:49.in that form. We will see. The Olympic record, you saw there. She

:37:50. > :37:54.swam in London, swum the fastest time in the semifinals. Then lost to

:37:55. > :38:00.the gold medal to Missy Franklin. Had plenty of revenge. She's beaten

:38:01. > :38:05.Franklin all the way through. Franklin didn't even qualify for

:38:06. > :38:15.this event. A great opportunity for Seebohm to deliver.

:38:16. > :38:25.Nielsen is in 5. The second Australia, Wilson in 6.

:38:26. > :38:33.3 isn't slow either. Fesikova. The first semifinal of the women's 100m

:38:34. > :38:41.backstroke. Very good start from Smoliga up there in 3. Taking about

:38:42. > :38:47.30-40 centimetres of the rest of the field. Wilson, the 22-year-old

:38:48. > :38:52.Australia, had a good start. You talk about the world record from

:38:53. > :38:58.2009. It was a fast one. I was surprised that the swimmers would

:38:59. > :39:10.get close to it. Very close indeed. 4-100th to the 50m. Still, lane 3,

:39:11. > :39:15.Smoliga from the US. Wilson as well, the Australian. Interesting from the

:39:16. > :39:19.two Australians, because I have to say the 200m backstroke I expected

:39:20. > :39:27.Maddie Wilson to be up there. Look how close this is! Five of them

:39:28. > :39:36.very, very quick. 59:0. Well, not quick but close. 59.3. So important

:39:37. > :39:43.to get to the touch, because that was not a fast semi. Seebohm only

:39:44. > :39:48.third. 59.3. That is very dangerous. Feels like James Guy. There is a

:39:49. > :39:52.spast semi coming -- fast semi coming up after this one. Five of

:39:53. > :39:58.the women are capable of under a minute. Slow reaction to the Burnies

:39:59. > :40:03.guy the Iceland -- reaction to the gun by the Iceland I can girl. I

:40:04. > :40:08.think Wilson opened up a nice gap. She looked strong towards the end.

:40:09. > :40:13.Must have finished the finish, did she? No, not really. You are right.

:40:14. > :40:19.She did look like she was way ahead. That looks four or five... Yes. The

:40:20. > :40:24.arm went in over first, but a bit slowly. All you have to do is

:40:25. > :40:31.qualify. A couple of those are going to be nervous, I think. If the next

:40:32. > :40:35.heat, semifinal, sorry, is... A couple of low 59s, that will be

:40:36. > :40:41.difficult. Wilson wins it. Nielsen second, Seebohm third. I think the

:40:42. > :40:45.one who will be nervous is Fesikova in fifth. The second semifinal

:40:46. > :40:50.featuring Great Britain's Georgia Davies is coming up, but before we

:40:51. > :40:55.get into that let's hear from the new Olympic champion, Adam Peaty,

:40:56. > :41:02.with his new medaled and Sharon. Right. How does it feel to have that

:41:03. > :41:06.around your neck? So much relief. Coming into the meet, I read

:41:07. > :41:11.everywhere, people are saying, "It is going to be a tough only." -

:41:12. > :41:18.whatever. You read everywhere there is a lot of pressure on me. But this

:41:19. > :41:24.proved that presure isn't real, it is a thing in your mind. You almost

:41:25. > :41:28.wants you to top you achieving. Bill said something to me. She said,

:41:29. > :41:32."Burn the boats and move forward and attack." That got me on to the mind

:41:33. > :41:37.side I needed to do. Going out tonight, I wasn't scared of anyone.

:41:38. > :41:40.It was tunnel vision. Yeah, so happy for British swimming now and happy

:41:41. > :41:45.for Team GB because it's the first gold of the Games. What better to

:41:46. > :41:52.come from swimming! Jazz following behind. You have the full set. What

:41:53. > :41:55.is there in future for you? You are such a young man still. Probably a

:41:56. > :41:59.couple more Olympic Games? Definitely! We have got to refocus

:42:00. > :42:06.now. More importantly we have to relax, but - at the end of the week

:42:07. > :42:10.I have to focus on the rely. The next few days I will relax, keep

:42:11. > :42:14.training, keep my mind right. Do you see yourself as somebody that has

:42:15. > :42:19.chained the attitude of the -- changed the at stood of the British

:42:20. > :42:22.team? I can see that. So surreal I am sitting in this position, talking

:42:23. > :42:28.to you with a gold medal around my neck. This is what you dream of

:42:29. > :42:33.and... Sounds cheesy. Every time you want to quit, go back to bed at

:42:34. > :42:39.4:00am when it is cold, so dark... Those days make it worth it. We were

:42:40. > :42:43.in Australia for two months in January and February. Every day

:42:44. > :42:50.pushed the boundaries. This is what it is for. I pated off. What about

:42:51. > :42:55.Nanny Mavis? She would have been jumping out of her seat. I will go

:42:56. > :43:00.back on Twitter. Stayed off it because I know what this will be

:43:01. > :43:04.like. I want to thank you, thanks, everybody, to - the whole of

:43:05. > :43:07.Britain. My country and the Royal Family and... Everything that makes

:43:08. > :43:10.me proud to be British. Will you get any sleep tonight? Definitely not!

:43:11. > :43:15.LAUGHTER Well done. Cheers. What a proud

:43:16. > :43:19.young man! Thanking the Royal Family. We are proud of you. Becky

:43:20. > :43:25.finds that bizarre, you do what you do...

:43:26. > :43:30.LAUGHTER Let's hope Georgia Davies can adopt his pressure isn't real.

:43:31. > :43:34.She is looking for a place in the final of the 100 backstroke. She is

:43:35. > :43:38.in lane 6. Britain has a fabulous night and there is no reason why she

:43:39. > :43:46.can't make the final. She is right on the cusp. A low 58, and she can

:43:47. > :43:52.be in. Georgia Davies in lane 6. The red hat.

:43:53. > :44:01.. Second semifinal of the women's 100m backstroke. Baker is the

:44:02. > :44:05.fastest from the US. Georgia Davies, not bad down the first 25. Really

:44:06. > :44:09.good actually. Good reaction and good start. She is in the race. She

:44:10. > :44:18.needs to get in the top 3, I think, for me. But right in the middle...

:44:19. > :44:23.Slow first 50 on the world record of Gemmas most of the women dropped

:44:24. > :44:27.off. Under world record split. They weren't able to hold on. Georgia

:44:28. > :44:35.Davies in fifth and moving through. 29.11. Got some work to do.

:44:36. > :44:48.George Davison, it is going to be tight, she has to work down the line

:44:49. > :44:50.but it is Baker at the moment. China going well as well but Baker has got

:44:51. > :45:07.it. Georgia may be outside. This is a

:45:08. > :45:15.lot quicker semi-final. These will be the fastest three in. Wilson was

:45:16. > :45:21.just over 59. Davies will miss it. 10th place unfortunately. It was a

:45:22. > :45:38.fast semi-final. That was the women at the top end. Kathleen Baker, 19,

:45:39. > :45:47.at the University of California, Berkeley. No 58s in the first and

:45:48. > :46:02.three in that one. It was a faster semi. One tenth of of a second. Just

:46:03. > :46:12.looking through the results as you were talking. It was not a great

:46:13. > :46:23.swim for her in the first semi. She has done the job here, Kathleen

:46:24. > :46:31.Baker of the USA. Winning the second semi-final. Three women sub 59 will

:46:32. > :46:41.make it through. Unfortunately Davies is intent.

:46:42. > :47:04.Just missing out. I am devastated. It has been such an amazing night

:47:05. > :47:08.for British swimming. Adam did out of the world and Jazz as well. I

:47:09. > :47:14.really wanted to be able to keep the positive via the rolling but I

:47:15. > :47:22.couldn't do it. I think I had much more after the heat this morning but

:47:23. > :47:25.it wasn't there. Sub 60s you are knocking out regularly and the team

:47:26. > :47:34.will take big positives from tonight. Definitely. Day number two

:47:35. > :47:43.out of an eight day heat. You must be very proud of Howe jazz. So proud

:47:44. > :47:55.of her. I want to give her a massive hug. She deserves it so much. Go and

:47:56. > :48:03.do that, thank you. Hard lines for Georgia Davies. We have seen that

:48:04. > :48:09.with her and Chris tonight. Just off the personal best times. We have had

:48:10. > :48:13.a great night. We will have a look at some of the other British

:48:14. > :48:17.athletes who are not in bed but supporting Adam Peaty. This is in

:48:18. > :48:24.the holding camp. The track and field athletes. They are absolutely

:48:25. > :48:34.loving it. What kind of sex does that have on the athletes? A huge

:48:35. > :48:38.effect. Anyone within Team GB comes together, we support one another. It

:48:39. > :48:45.is that sort of positive affect, if they can do it why can't I do it.

:48:46. > :48:49.You start to get more of a belief and you are part of a team. We spoke

:48:50. > :48:55.about the mighty Adam Peaty and there is the mighty Michael Phelps

:48:56. > :49:05.about to get in the swimming pool for the first time in the Olympics.

:49:06. > :49:10.Four x 100 metre relay. Team USA getting pumped up threat. Every

:49:11. > :49:17.other team was focusing on the individual race. Team USA

:49:18. > :49:30.altogether. No prizes for guessing where this team comes from. Andy. A

:49:31. > :49:44.massive roar, absolutely enormous. Goodness me, that was team Brazil.

:49:45. > :49:49.Sixth fastest qualifier there is team Canada. France only fourth

:49:50. > :49:59.fastest qualifier. They will be number six. This crowd, what they

:50:00. > :50:04.great atmosphere building up now. -- what a. I thought Australia for

:50:05. > :50:11.certain. The Russian Federation swum really well in the heat. Australia

:50:12. > :50:21.are the favourites. They were favourites before the heat. This is

:50:22. > :50:25.interesting. Magnusson didn't really deliver in the heat this morning.

:50:26. > :50:39.Stick him in the middle. The Americans, Michael Phelps. In the

:50:40. > :50:46.middle is the Olympic champion. There is Phelps with his headphones

:50:47. > :50:59.on. Putting it in perspective, Great Britain 's 16th gold medal in the

:51:00. > :51:07.pool. It is such a shame Russia, do not want to see it at the Games but

:51:08. > :51:14.the Federation, world swimming federation have done the Russians no

:51:15. > :51:19.favours at all. Great Britain won the 16th gold medal in Olympic

:51:20. > :51:24.history and Michael Phelps has got 18 on his own.

:51:25. > :51:37.The final of the men's four times 100 relay. Where would you put

:51:38. > :51:45.Michael Phelps? I would probably put him in the middle. I don't think, he

:51:46. > :51:55.is a brilliant summer but Nathan is tough on the back end. Get someone

:51:56. > :52:04.of his talent and calibre to build the lead, I guess I am not sure they

:52:05. > :52:11.will be a big lead in this race. It will be tight all the way through.

:52:12. > :52:13.The starter waiting for some semblance of quiet. Not easy. 15,000

:52:14. > :52:37.people here. A massive roar and a quick start in

:52:38. > :52:48.the centre. Look at the start from the USA. That is outstanding. A heck

:52:49. > :52:52.of an atmosphere, it is making my spine tingle. Everyone in the crowd

:52:53. > :52:58.is on their feet. The only people sitting down are the commentators.

:52:59. > :53:18.Awesome start, Adrian in lane seven and it will only get noisier. This

:53:19. > :53:24.is wonderful to see. Dressel of the United States. USA have come in

:53:25. > :53:30.second place. France are first, USA second, third is Brazil. Look at

:53:31. > :53:44.Michael Phelps, what a fantastic stroke. Going like a rocket. Lane

:53:45. > :53:55.number two, Canada. Fantastic 50 metres... Down on the world record.

:53:56. > :54:02.France taking the lead. Phelps, back again. Michael Phelps is eating

:54:03. > :54:08.these guys are live. You are not sure if he should be in the relay.

:54:09. > :54:12.He did strongly in the trials for America and look at the lead they

:54:13. > :54:21.have got. Unbelievable, USA leading by a street. Look at the lead it has

:54:22. > :54:31.given them. You put him in second. Look at him go. The Australians are

:54:32. > :54:40.digging in now. Australia in lead three, Russian Federation in four.

:54:41. > :54:50.The Russian was in and out and is back in again but Ryan Held catching

:54:51. > :54:54.him. This will be tight in the last 100. Nathan Adrian is the Olympic

:54:55. > :55:04.champion but I am not sure he's in great form. USA, number one, Russia

:55:05. > :55:09.three, Australia in fourth... Nearest to the camera, pulled out of

:55:10. > :55:14.the individual race to commit to the relay. Great underwater kick from

:55:15. > :55:22.him. I don't think he is good enough to catch Nathan Adrian. 1.3 away

:55:23. > :55:28.from the record. 0.6 ahead. Look at the turn and Adrian has got it.

:55:29. > :55:35.Nathan Adrian is so powerful and starting to swim away. Lane tee and

:55:36. > :55:44.three, Canada and Australia. Three and four, Australia and Russia and

:55:45. > :55:47.the Aussies may get the bronze. Silver to France, bronze to

:55:48. > :55:55.Australia... What a surprise. Michael Phelps, there he is, oh my

:55:56. > :56:02.goodness me, where did that come from, 47.1, USA win the gold. If you

:56:03. > :56:06.have any questions about if Michael Phelps is in shape for his fifth

:56:07. > :56:12.Olympic Games, there is the answer. Another Olympic gold medal and he

:56:13. > :56:22.deserves that one. I tell you. What a great split. Phelps's 19 Olympic

:56:23. > :56:26.gold medal. Phelps's 23rd Olympic medal. I have got to tell you. That

:56:27. > :56:33.is a wonderful result for team USA, I didn't think they would do that.

:56:34. > :56:40.They knew they could, the rest of the world not sure. Nathan Adrian on

:56:41. > :57:01.the left, he is a powerhouse. Phelps's son, Boomer. He has a

:57:02. > :57:12.footprint but that the knot his actual foot... Phelps, the results

:57:13. > :57:17.have been clarified. One of the greatest swimmers in the world is

:57:18. > :57:21.back on form. He has got a couple of individual races you would not want

:57:22. > :57:29.to bet against. I can't believe, 47.1. We have the results of the

:57:30. > :57:35.swimmers from the first three legs. It will take complicated maths to

:57:36. > :57:41.work out what the last leg swim it did. I wouldn't be surprised if

:57:42. > :57:50.Phelps did the fastest swim of the race. I am not seeing too many other

:57:51. > :57:56.47.1 winner, I tell you. Nathan Adrian really was quick. Left arm is

:57:57. > :58:12.Michael Phelps, screaming out the water. -- act the water. 47.9, if my

:58:13. > :58:17.maths is right for Nathan Adrian. USA just ripped that one, ripped the

:58:18. > :58:23.gold medal from the rest of the field. I think France will be

:58:24. > :58:28.pleased. They properly don't feel it now. Close, less than one second

:58:29. > :58:38.away from the gold medal. Australia, bronze. A surprise really. Phelps,

:58:39. > :58:46.there he is, the little mark on his shoulder. The final race on the

:58:47. > :58:53.second night of finals, team USA winning gold in the men's four times

:58:54. > :59:01.100 metre freestyle rally. France get the silver, Australia the

:59:02. > :59:05.bronze. It is just an arm believable statement, 19 gold medals. Talking

:59:06. > :59:11.to Adrian earlier about his little girl playing with his gold medal.

:59:12. > :59:23.Baby Boomer can have one for each day of the week. He ... That is why

:59:24. > :59:27.he comes back. He loves that moment. He missed it, being a wafer couple

:59:28. > :59:33.of years, maybe it was in the back of his mind to come back, I don't

:59:34. > :59:46.know. -- being away for. He is the best. The purple bruises, just to

:59:47. > :59:55.explain, it is cupping some athletes do. Jazz Carlin, silver medal, let's

:59:56. > :00:02.enjoyed the last 75 metres of the race. What were you thinking at this

:00:03. > :00:07.point? Jazz is very strong at the 100 and I just knew she got it. I

:00:08. > :00:13.knew the silver medal was hers. No-one was going to chase her

:00:14. > :00:16.because she is so strong. It is brilliant to see. You can relax and

:00:17. > :00:35.enjoy the point she will get the silver medal. That is a heck of a

:00:36. > :00:41.swim from Katie Ledecky. -- Casey. I will not call it a man's time but

:00:42. > :00:48.she is so dominant. There she is, a phenomenal swimmer. For now, for us,

:00:49. > :00:59.it is about Jazz Carlin flying the flag for Wales. Jason is trying to

:01:00. > :01:04.claim her but she is British. Jazz Carlin is heading to the podium.

:01:05. > :01:14.Take us through it. Thank you, Helen. What a night it has been.

:01:15. > :01:20.Gold for Adam Peaty. I don't think it was a surprise. Finally allowed

:01:21. > :01:39.to do what we have been talking about this are long and did it so

:01:40. > :01:40.well. She did what she could. Jazz Carlin is world-class and maybe she

:01:41. > :02:07.would believe it. The bronze goes to Leah Smith of the

:02:08. > :02:14.USA. Olympic bronze medallist. What a confidence booster this will be

:02:15. > :02:24.for Jazz Carlin. Really fantastic. She won the Commonwealth games. That

:02:25. > :02:32.was a really brilliant swim. This surpasses it by a country mile. Now

:02:33. > :02:36.she is a truly world-class swimmer, in with the greatest. Jazz Carlin of

:02:37. > :02:42.Great Britain wins the silver medal in the women's four times 100 metre

:02:43. > :02:50.freestyle. Lifetime best for her. Perfect time to do it. Olympic

:02:51. > :02:59.silver. Stunning. She was waiting for the nod to go up, should I go

:03:00. > :03:06.now?! Well done. Great swim. I don't think we could have asked for more.

:03:07. > :03:15.It was the perfect swim. They just wound it up. Brilliant swimming. She

:03:16. > :03:20.can't believe it, look! Well done. Great example of what is possible.

:03:21. > :03:38.Go and swim your own race, don't worry about the others. Ledecky

:03:39. > :03:51.smashed it. A new world superstar in swimming. It is Katie Ledecky. She

:03:52. > :04:00.has just totally destroyed her own record. Olympic champion. I am sure

:04:01. > :04:06.she will take the 800 is well and could get the 200. It is possible.

:04:07. > :04:22.That is likely. She has the silver from last night. Wonderful pictures.

:04:23. > :04:32.The new American superstar and world superstar. Great night of swimming.

:06:31. > :06:38.Gold and silver for Britain. Adam Peaty won a gold medal, Jess Carlin

:06:39. > :06:50.won a silver medal. It is only night number two. A huge congratulations

:06:51. > :06:59.to Jess. She missed out on making the Olympics in 2012 because of

:07:00. > :07:07.glandular fever. It has been a long time coming she deserves it. What

:07:08. > :07:15.about the way she looks when she won, and how surprised she looked

:07:16. > :07:24.when she moved onto podium. She looks shocked. For her and Adam,

:07:25. > :07:30.this is their first Olympics. They smashed it. For her, I do did she

:07:31. > :07:36.expected it. I think she expected it a little bit, but her form has been

:07:37. > :07:47.Great all year. It is so beautiful to see, she had

:07:48. > :07:59.no expectations coming into it, have a good swim. And she came away with

:08:00. > :08:05.Olympic silver medal. It felt like a gold. She wasn't going to get

:08:06. > :08:11.anywhere near Ledecky, Sashi won by her own right. She really was a kid

:08:12. > :08:18.in a candy store, she is 25, first Olympics. That is unusual for a lot

:08:19. > :08:27.of swimmers. She was so excited to be here. She is looking for her

:08:28. > :08:35.family. Is that a mother? That is her boyfriend, Lewis. There she is.

:08:36. > :08:40.So great to have her family come out and share this with her. It is your

:08:41. > :08:43.coach, it your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your family, they share

:08:44. > :08:51.the support. You owe so much to them. For these guys, that is all we

:08:52. > :09:10.are looking for. We have got Team Ledecky cheering on all night. And

:09:11. > :09:19.that is Ledecky's parents. -- Jazz's. She won a silver medal. It

:09:20. > :09:26.has been a phenomenal night in the pool for the British swimmers. Three

:09:27. > :09:32.world records. It is about winning medals. Great performances. If

:09:33. > :09:42.you're going to it somewhere, it is like a carnival in here. This place

:09:43. > :09:48.is so energetic. I know it is 4am there, but it fills a quarry in

:09:49. > :09:53.here, because it is so electric and I am exhausted. -- it feels like

:09:54. > :10:02.Fourier. They have gotten into the pool, two

:10:03. > :10:07.hours of the gym, around the pool, all that training, it has all been

:10:08. > :10:14.worth it. The little lady is a little whether they can summon the

:10:15. > :10:21.strength to get up and go to trading tomorrow, do it. It is so possible.

:10:22. > :10:25.You never know where you might end up. An absolute privilege to be in

:10:26. > :10:28.this pool tonight. This is one of those days that is going to stay

:10:29. > :10:37.with each and everyone of us. These are the Olympic moments that

:10:38. > :10:42.we love. These are the Olympic moments that we remember and will be

:10:43. > :10:47.talking about for many years to come. If you are inspired by Adam

:10:48. > :10:51.Peaty and Jazz Carlin, head to our website and you could be an Olympic

:10:52. > :10:59.champion in many years to come. There are lots of sports to round

:11:00. > :11:14.up. Could Brazil get past Iraq in their football match?

:11:15. > :11:33.Woodworth saves Brazil. Iraq hitting the woodwork. Agonisingly close to

:11:34. > :11:42.getting a sensational lead. They have played warmup games against

:11:43. > :11:56.other nations in the lead up to this game. Steering at was the left-hand

:11:57. > :12:13.side, Muhamed. Taking a few steps, Brazil in the area. A second bite of

:12:14. > :12:19.the cherry, to a corner. Namar curls that, the keeper makes no mistake.

:12:20. > :12:36.Takes no chances. Three Brazilian players sitting in a block, Namar

:12:37. > :12:50.going for goal. Off the woodwork. That ball crashed against the

:12:51. > :13:08.woodwork. The efforts is exactly what they need. No gold still.

:13:09. > :13:27.Growing frustration. Long-range, an effort that the two be swirling.

:13:28. > :13:43.Looking for something here. That is another myth is its successive

:13:44. > :13:46.games. What a mess, and what is about Brazil when they host a

:13:47. > :13:47.football tournament, the pressure is on them. They go into the third

:13:48. > :14:02.match without a goal. Van Vlugten suffered fractures after

:14:03. > :14:10.the terrible descent crash, she has tweeted from hospital in Rio. I will

:14:11. > :14:22.be fine. Very disappointed after the best race of my career. We wish you

:14:50. > :15:01.silver in the freestyle. Huge disappointment for and the and Jamie

:15:02. > :15:05.Murray at the men's Doubles -- Andy. And a big shock in the tennis as

:15:13. > :15:19.Singles, losing to Argentina's Del Potro for the second consecutive

:15:30. > :15:36.memorable night in Rio. The first Mail gold-medallist in the pool

:15:37. > :15:41.since 1988. Just a few minutes later Jazz Carlin wins silver and we are

:15:42. > :15:48.up and running. Our coverage of day three gets under way on BBC One,

:15:49. > :15:53.with another attempt at the rowing. It was cancelled earlier today

:15:54. > :16:05.because of high winds. From 2pm, the world 's leading eventists, and then
