:01:07. > :01:12.# Here and now, let's get this straight
:01:13. > :01:18.# Bugaloo, baby, I'm feeling great # Because I'm feeling the Latin beat
:01:19. > :01:22.# Just commence your feet to skate # Pick up your arms and make 'em
:01:23. > :01:27.shake # Baby, if you think you're shy
:01:28. > :01:35.# Do me a favour, honey # Go some place and hide!
:01:36. > :01:39.# Yeah, baby # I like it like that
:01:40. > :01:42.# You better believe me when I tell you
:01:43. > :01:46.# I said I like it like that # I like it like that
:01:47. > :01:51.# I said I like it like that... We absolutely love it. Hello.
:01:52. > :01:54.Welcome back to the cop cab that, day three of Rio 2016 and the
:01:55. > :01:58.Olympic Games well and truly under way and we could have another medal
:01:59. > :02:03.in the pool, with James Guy going in the final of the men's 200m
:02:04. > :02:06.freestyle. Plenty of sport to keep you right entertained. This is
:02:07. > :02:16.what's coming up: boxing first. We'll see our
:02:17. > :02:20.heavyweight in action in a few minutes again a tough Cuban
:02:21. > :02:26.opponent. We'll be at the pool to see if James
:02:27. > :02:31.Guy can win our fifth medal of the Olympic Games. Two superstars of the
:02:32. > :02:36.pool in action as Chad Le Clos and Michael Phelps go in the men's 200m
:02:37. > :02:41.butterfly. And a great story emerging in the table tennis. Paul
:02:42. > :02:51.Drinkhall into the last 16, the first Briton to reach that stage
:02:52. > :02:56.since 1992. So this is how we line up? The boxing is up next. We've got
:02:57. > :03:02.wonderful weightlifting to look forward to with the World Champion
:03:03. > :03:09.in action. Then we've got Paul Drinkhall's match at 1:30. James
:03:10. > :03:12.Guy's final is at around 2:21 and it's Phelps, Le Clos, about 40
:03:13. > :03:19.minutes later. Take a look at this - one of the
:03:20. > :03:23.world's most iconic beaches, the Copacabana, dark and a little
:03:24. > :03:26.world's most iconic beaches, the this evening. Today it's been full
:03:27. > :03:29.of beach volleyball fans loving the 2016 Games, Brazilian fans mingling
:03:30. > :03:33.with visitors of all nations. They're proud of their city and
:03:34. > :03:38.their nation as we go into the evening session of day three.
:03:39. > :03:42.But first up this evening, it's boxing and a heavyweight bout and
:03:43. > :03:49.it's going to be a terrific boult, this one, with Great Britain's
:03:50. > :03:55.laurngs Okolie taking on a very tough Cuban. Well this is a really
:03:56. > :03:59.incredible story when you look at Okolie's history. He was serving
:04:00. > :04:02.burgers near the boxing venue for London 2012 but is now one win away
:04:03. > :04:05.from the last eight of the heavyweight division. The
:04:06. > :04:10.23-year-old from London is actually on a sports scholarship at the
:04:11. > :04:14.University of East London but has deferred his studies until after the
:04:15. > :04:19.Games. He's looking for top marks this this bout. So we're heading to
:04:20. > :04:25.the Rio Centro, next to the Olympic Park, a venue built in 1977, which
:04:26. > :04:31.has previously hosted pan American Games events. Commentary comes from
:04:32. > :04:42.Lawrence McIntosh and Ricci Woodhall.
:04:43. > :04:47.We're under way in the 91kg heavyweight division. The man
:04:48. > :04:54.wearing blue who has just taken an arcing right hand over the top is
:04:55. > :04:58.Cuba's Erislande Savon, ranked number two in the world and in the
:04:59. > :05:03.tournament. He's the reigning World Championship silver medallist at
:05:04. > :05:07.91kg. His opponent is 23-year-old Lawrence Okolie from East London.
:05:08. > :05:11.One of the ten-man British boxing team. And two women in a 12-strong
:05:12. > :05:17.British boxing squad as well. #7 when these two men met in May - and
:05:18. > :05:21.once again a cracking right hand has put Okolie on to the canvas and it's
:05:22. > :05:25.another calamitous start for the man in red. He was dropped three times
:05:26. > :05:30.in the opening round of the World Series boxing match-up and he's on
:05:31. > :05:42.to the canvas for a fourth time in his second meeting against Erislande
:05:43. > :05:47.Savon. Terrible start for Okolie. He's got to jab and move off to his
:05:48. > :05:51.right. If moves to the left, I walks on to the right hand. He's got to
:05:52. > :05:54.jab and move to the right, move away from that dangerous shot of the
:05:55. > :05:59.Cuban. It's a terrible start but he's recovered again now so he's got
:06:00. > :06:03.to get back to using that and get back to being positive. He came into
:06:04. > :06:13.the contest in a confident mood. He's got to return to that now and
:06:14. > :06:17.make no more mistakes. Lawrence Okolie beat three boxers in the top
:06:18. > :06:21.ten to secure his passage to his first Olympic Games in 2016. He's
:06:22. > :06:24.facing a man ranked number two in the world for the second time in a
:06:25. > :06:28.matter of months. So those ricketories over the top-ten
:06:29. > :06:32.opponents show you the type of talent that Lawrence Okolie
:06:33. > :06:38.possesses but he's just a baby in elite international becoming terms.
:06:39. > :06:44.Whereas Erislandy Savon has been competing at elite international
:06:45. > :06:50.level. His sole global title was won way back in 2008. At that time,
:06:51. > :06:55.Lawrence Okolie had no thoughts about entering the sports of boxing.
:06:56. > :06:57.He did sew after -- so after seeing Anthony Joshua win superheavyweight
:06:58. > :07:02.gold and discovered his immense talent but he's facing a man of
:07:03. > :07:15.incredible talent in his own right with heaps of experience as well
:07:16. > :07:19.He's got to be accurate and hit the target. As soon as Savon goes into
:07:20. > :07:23.range, it's got to go out and keep the Cuban at bay. He's got to be
:07:24. > :07:26.fast, accurate, hit the target and bring the right hand into play, keep
:07:27. > :07:38.the gap and keep it long range. You can see Savon is struggling a
:07:39. > :07:41.little bit to close the gap down because Okolie has recovered with
:07:42. > :07:46.that jab. That wasn't bad towards the end of the round, but a terrible
:07:47. > :07:50.start. Most certainly, but Lawrence Okolie got himself out of that
:07:51. > :07:55.opening round after being dropped by a lovely long straight right cross
:07:56. > :07:59.delivered from this man. So calm and in control in the boxing ring and so
:08:00. > :08:03.far Okolie has done nothing to take him out of his rhythm. A good right
:08:04. > :08:08.hand over the top, wasn't it? And there he was there. Let's have a
:08:09. > :08:11.look at it again. He moves in, Savon, there it is there. Just
:08:12. > :08:16.catches him off balance a little bit and he goes down. It's because he
:08:17. > :08:20.left his left hand out slightly more, didn't he? Okolie a little bit
:08:21. > :08:23.slower. It will be across the board for the Cuban.
:08:24. > :08:29.No question there. But he's recovered. And it was a good,
:08:30. > :08:39.positive end to the round for Okolie.
:08:40. > :08:45.So into the second round then. Lawrence Okolie of Great Britain
:08:46. > :08:49.immediately on to the front foot after conceding the opening round
:08:50. > :08:54.across the board, 10-9 in favour of the second-ranked boxer in the
:08:55. > :08:57.world. There's a good right hand by Okolie and it staggered Savon. His
:08:58. > :09:01.boxing stance betrayed him momentarily but he's got it back
:09:02. > :09:06.beneath him now. How badly hurt was he by that? Spurs him back into
:09:07. > :09:10.action as he comes back with a long right hand over the top but Okolie
:09:11. > :09:13.is growing in confident and getting his range against Savon. Now, that's
:09:14. > :09:18.better from Lawrence Okolie. You see, the Cubans are not invincible.
:09:19. > :09:22.If you hit them on the chin, they will stagger. Tremendous shot from
:09:23. > :09:27.Lawrence Okolie. Great right hand, straight, long range. More of it,
:09:28. > :09:32.please, Lawrence Okolie. All of a sudden, this contest taking on a
:09:33. > :09:35.little bit more of an even nature in this second round. There's a
:09:36. > :09:39.terrific left jab once again which catches Savon as he's coming in and
:09:40. > :09:42.just disrupts his boxing stance but now the man is looking to put his
:09:43. > :09:47.punches together. World Series boxing experience in seasons four,
:09:48. > :09:52.five and six, and, during that time, Savon has compiled an astonishing
:09:53. > :09:57.record of 22 contests without defeat over the five-round duration.
:09:58. > :10:01.Lawrence Okolie made his World Series boxing bow this year. And his
:10:02. > :10:08.lone defeat came against the man in blue in the final between the
:10:09. > :10:12.British Lionhearts and the Cuba Domadores, which took place in
:10:13. > :10:15.neutral territory in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It's about 100%
:10:16. > :10:18.concentration. Savon is definitely struggling with closing that gap.
:10:19. > :10:22.He's starting his attack from too far out because he can't get to
:10:23. > :10:26.Lawrence Okolie. That's why the jab has got to be accurate. Slam that
:10:27. > :10:30.jab into his face and then bring that right hand across as well. But
:10:31. > :10:36.keep your distance and range and it's all about concentration and
:10:37. > :10:40.accuracy. And again, made to miss with the attempted right hand. Oh,
:10:41. > :10:43.that's a cracking right hand from Savon but Okolie took it well.
:10:44. > :10:47.Trying to get his jab working but now he holds on to gain some respite
:10:48. > :10:51.because that was a right hand that landed right on the point of his
:10:52. > :10:56.chin. He just oozes class, Savon. He's brilliant. He really is. But
:10:57. > :10:59.he's having a few problems here with closing that gap down. He's
:11:00. > :11:03.quickening his feet up there. That's how he landed the right hand. And
:11:04. > :11:08.that's why Okolie has got to be more concentrated. He's got to be on the
:11:09. > :11:15.ball here, Okolie. And he can do this. He's most certainly already
:11:16. > :11:21.demonstrated his incredible talent, Okolie, just by qualifying for Rio
:11:22. > :11:26.2016, by winning the Europe Olympic qualification event in Samsung.
:11:27. > :11:31.That's when he beat those three top-ten operators. Here he's fating
:11:32. > :11:34.one of the very best of all and he's acquit -- facing one of the very
:11:35. > :11:39.best of all and he's acquitting himself strongly. But it's a strong
:11:40. > :11:42.conclusion to the round from Savon. As you pointed out, that can be a
:11:43. > :11:47.significant tactic in determining the outcome of a round that is
:11:48. > :11:51.competitive otherwise. Savon has got the round again for me. He did the
:11:52. > :11:59.better work. There were signs there. Let's try a listen to Dave Alloway.
:12:00. > :12:03.Good lad. You're doing brilliant... Dave Alloway telling Lawrence Okolie
:12:04. > :12:08.that he's doing brilliantly but the right hand is on the button from
:12:09. > :12:13.South Africa sav. As Savon is coming forward, he's got to be more
:12:14. > :12:16.accurate. That gave Savon problems but as Savon is coming forward, he
:12:17. > :12:21.beat Okolie to the punch. I'm talking about accuracy. As he comes,
:12:22. > :12:26.you've got to hit him with that left hand first. So the opening round was
:12:27. > :12:29.10-9 in favour of Savon and the second round has gone the same way.
:12:30. > :12:34.I should point out that putting a man on the floor in open boxing
:12:35. > :12:47.doesn't necessarily result in a 10-8 round but Savon is in a commanding
:12:48. > :12:50.position. Just some adjustments to the
:12:51. > :12:54.waistband. It has to be visible so the referee can discern what is a
:12:55. > :12:57.low blow or not, that white sash. So now the third and final round under
:12:58. > :13:00.way and the equation is quite simple. Lawrence Okolie of Great
:13:01. > :13:05.Britain needs a massive round because he's trailing by two points
:13:06. > :13:08.on all three of the score cards to the reigning World Championship
:13:09. > :13:12.silver medallist, Erislandy Savon. And of course, when you're built
:13:13. > :13:15.like Lawrence Okolie and possess the type of punching power that he does,
:13:16. > :13:20.a knock-out is always an option but you're going to have to find a chin
:13:21. > :13:25.of a heavyweight who is pretty elusive when he's at his best.
:13:26. > :13:29.Okolie has had some success with his right hand in round number two but
:13:30. > :13:33.he's got to find a Sunday punch here. This contest isn't over yet.
:13:34. > :13:39.Lawrence Okolie can find that right hand. He's just got to bring Savon
:13:40. > :13:43.on to it and we know how good Savon is. We know he's very confident. But
:13:44. > :13:47.he may come over that front foot. One mistake and Okolie can
:13:48. > :14:01.capitalise with that right hand. It's forcing the opponent to do
:14:02. > :14:03.that. Reigning Pan Am games champion, reigning Americas
:14:04. > :14:07.continental champion from last year is Erislandy Savon and really, when
:14:08. > :14:11.you look at some of the results that have gone against him, it's rather
:14:12. > :14:14.surprising that he hasn't picked up global success at the senior level
:14:15. > :14:18.yet and occupied the highest plinth on the podium. He's boxing very well
:14:19. > :14:23.here and comes forward with another pile-driving right hand that causes
:14:24. > :14:27.Okolie to become a little bit disorganised and hold on at close
:14:28. > :14:32.range. Well, Okolie is going for it now but he's got to create a little
:14:33. > :14:36.bit more space. I think he's more effective at boxing at range,
:14:37. > :14:40.Okolie. He's not going to win it here at close quarters. He's got to
:14:41. > :14:45.bring him on to the right hand and that means bringing him on at long
:14:46. > :14:48.range. That's it there, bring him on to the right hand. It's a wonderful
:14:49. > :14:57.left hand from Okolie. He's a young man who oozes confidence to go along
:14:58. > :15:01.with his immense talent. Spoken of winning the Olympic title but he's
:15:02. > :15:05.facing an uphill battle in the final minute of the third and final round,
:15:06. > :15:08.trailing by two points on all three cards after a bad start against
:15:09. > :15:11.Erislandy Savon. But he got back into it in the second round but
:15:12. > :15:15.still didn't do enough to take it on the score cards of the judges. Good
:15:16. > :15:19.right hand again from Savon. Chopping it down on to Okolie.
:15:20. > :15:23.Okolie comes back with a left of his own. And, again, Savon lining him up
:15:24. > :15:28.with a right hand and following with a left hook before coming underneath
:15:29. > :15:33.with a good, right uppercut. He's just feeling it a little bit now,
:15:34. > :15:38.Lawrence. It's a shame. He'll learn from this experience, though. He's
:15:39. > :15:41.had his moments in this contest. It's worth pointing out that
:15:42. > :15:47.Lawrence Okolie had just 25 contests coming into the Rio Olympic Games.
:15:48. > :15:52.Exactly, yeah. Incredible performance to qualify for the
:15:53. > :15:59.biggest boxing tournament on earth in this multisport extravaganza.
:16:00. > :16:03.Produced a terrific victory in his first con test, did Lawrence Okolie,
:16:04. > :16:07.but he ran into the brilliant Erislandy Savon, the tournament
:16:08. > :16:10.number two seed, the reigning World Championship silver medallist in the
:16:11. > :16:15.second round and Savon, for the second time in a matter of months,
:16:16. > :16:18.demonstrated his superiority over the immensely talented, but still
:16:19. > :16:21.inexperienced, Lawrence Okolie, but he's acquitted himself incredibly
:16:22. > :16:24.well during the course of this Olympic tournament. He has indeed.
:16:25. > :16:29.Great shot again from Savon. Okolie will learn from that. He was a
:16:30. > :16:33.little bit in trouble there but nevertheless, he's an inexperienced
:16:34. > :16:38.kid. He's one for 2020, one for Tokyo, Lawrence Okolie. He's very
:16:39. > :16:41.inexperienced. But he's done really well here. It was a terrible start,
:16:42. > :16:45.let's get it right, but he didn't cave in. He rocked Savon with one
:16:46. > :16:49.shot. All credit to Lawrence Okolie. He'll come again. He's one for the
:16:50. > :16:53.future. In terms of the present, let's head
:16:54. > :16:57.down to the public address announcer and get the official announcement at
:16:58. > :17:04.the conclusion of this heavyweight contest in the second preliminary
:17:05. > :17:16.round. ANNOUNCER: Ladies and gentlemen, the
:17:17. > :17:23.winner by unanimous decision, Erislandy Savon.
:17:24. > :17:30.CHEERING So Erislandy Savon, moves into the
:17:31. > :17:34.quarterfinals and a step closer to emulating his legendary uncle, Felix
:17:35. > :17:37.Savon. He elimb nats Lawrence Okolie from Great Britain in the second
:17:38. > :17:39.round of the 91kg heavyweight tournament, a unanimous
:17:40. > :17:44.points-decision winner. He took all three rounds from all three judges,
:17:45. > :17:48.very convincing display in his first outing of Rio 2016 for the
:17:49. > :17:52.tournament number two seed. Lawrence Okolie eliminated but should hold
:17:53. > :17:56.his head up high in the manner in which he's acquitted himself during
:17:57. > :18:00.this, his first ever Olympic tournament.
:18:01. > :18:04.Lawrence, just a step too far for you in the end. Was it what you
:18:05. > :18:08.expected? You know it's going to be tough against the world number two?
:18:09. > :18:11.I knew he would be hard, especially after boxing him before. I thought
:18:12. > :18:15.what I did in preparation would be enough. Unfortunately, I got in
:18:16. > :18:18.there and found out quite quickly that it's a different ball game,
:18:19. > :18:22.just up a level. I believe that I'm at least in the top three or four in
:18:23. > :18:26.the world, but unfortunately I came up against someone that was just
:18:27. > :18:32.that bit better today. It pains me to say it but at the end of the day
:18:33. > :18:36.I was watching him in McDonalds four years ago boxing against Anthony
:18:37. > :18:40.Joshua and I managed to get myself to a place where I'm sharing a room
:18:41. > :18:43.with him. I've still got a chip on my shoulder and I believe I have
:18:44. > :18:47.what it takes to become one of the best in the world and I'm not going
:18:48. > :18:51.to stop until I get to that status. I hope you've been able to enjoy it.
:18:52. > :18:55.What will you take away from the experience? The progress I've made.
:18:56. > :18:59.The same man stopped me in a round about seven weeks ago. So in not
:19:00. > :19:05.even two months, I'm now on a big stage, in the Olympics and I managed
:19:06. > :19:10.to extend it. Through the first round, I heard the first bell and
:19:11. > :19:14.second, third. I wanted to win. I tried to push it in the last round,
:19:15. > :19:17.even though I was hurt, but unfortunately it didn't work. I've
:19:18. > :19:20.got a fantastic team around me and I'll go back to the drawing board
:19:21. > :19:24.and keep pushing. I want to give a massive shout-out to my mum, my dad,
:19:25. > :19:27.my friends who have come here and everyone that's been supporting me.
:19:28. > :19:30.Unfortunately, I didn't do it today but I'm not going to stop until
:19:31. > :19:33.obviously I get to that next level, believe me. Lawrence, all the best.
:19:34. > :19:37.Hopefully see you in 2020. Catch you. Thanks.
:19:38. > :19:41.Really disappointing night for Lawrence Okolie. Interestingly,
:19:42. > :19:44.Lawrence was actually beaten by Savon, stopped in June in the
:19:45. > :19:48.opening round. So it was always going to be tough against that
:19:49. > :19:51.really difficult opponent. So we've got table tennis and weightlifting
:19:52. > :19:56.on the way. Obviously we're concentrating on the swimming pool
:19:57. > :20:01.and what a night last night. Adam Petty and Giles Carolyn both winning
:20:02. > :20:12.gold and silver medals respectively and tonight, James is the Guy.
:20:13. > :20:19.James Guy of England, bronze medallist, what a great swim he had.
:20:20. > :20:23.It's James Guy of Great Britain. Come on, jamss Guy! He's got it! An
:20:24. > :20:29.utterly brilliant swim. World Champion! Well done, Sir! James Guy,
:20:30. > :20:37.asserting himself as the World Champion that he is. Hundreds of --
:20:38. > :20:42.hundredths of second count massively. James guy has made it in
:20:43. > :20:47.by 0.01 seconds. Let's hope for more medals in the pools this evening.
:20:48. > :20:51.Let's tack to Mark Foster, who is part of our swimming team. Mark,
:20:52. > :20:54.good evening to you. I saw on Twitter food that you tweeted
:20:55. > :20:58.one-of-the best nights you've ever seen in the pool last night. It was
:20:59. > :21:03.the best night I've ever seen. I first came on the scene in 1988 and
:21:04. > :21:07.saw Adrian Moorhouse on the first night of the Olympic Games in Seoul
:21:08. > :21:15.and saw him win gold. I've never seen gold and silver in a same
:21:16. > :21:17.night. I don't know, it was so emotional standing next to Petty's
:21:18. > :21:23.parents. They were with us last night. It wasn't expected how much
:21:24. > :21:31.he would crush everybody by and how much he's rewritten by. Jaz was a
:21:32. > :21:35.massive shock and she's up for the 800m we thought and a potential
:21:36. > :21:38.medal but coming away with silver and for her saying she's at the
:21:39. > :21:43.Olympic Games and how much it meant to her and she's Olympic silver
:21:44. > :21:48.medallist. Amazing moment. Especially what she went through in
:21:49. > :21:51.London 2012 in not making the Games. Tonight, James Guy - realistic
:21:52. > :21:56.chances of getting a medal tonight? Yeah. There's an opportunity. We
:21:57. > :22:02.always say if you've got a lane, you've got a chance. The 400m didn't
:22:03. > :22:06.go to plan. He's been 3:43. It's not much off his best but you want to
:22:07. > :22:10.come to the Olympic Games and do you best. It wasn't bad. The heats and
:22:11. > :22:13.semis, he looked a little bit heavy and I wonder whether leading into
:22:14. > :22:16.these championships he's been at altitude and done training and
:22:17. > :22:19.sometimes you do a lot of work and it's like building a skyscraper. You
:22:20. > :22:23.have huge foundations and at the top, you want to be at your peak and
:22:24. > :22:26.sometimes you don't get it right on the right day. He looks a little bit
:22:27. > :22:29.heavy. But another day's rest, all the training is done and he's a
:22:30. > :22:33.phenomenal athlete, let's not forget. A World Champion last year
:22:34. > :22:35.and the year before, winning the Commonwealth Games and the European
:22:36. > :22:41.Championships. He's got it all to do. Sun Yang is favourite and I
:22:42. > :22:45.truly believe, if I have to say it, he will win this evening but
:22:46. > :22:49.potential world champions can step up. There are a lot of big names in
:22:50. > :22:52.the pool this evening, Chad Le Clos and Michael Phelps. How much are you
:22:53. > :22:56.looking forward to that? That's a big one. The final of the 200m fly
:22:57. > :23:01.is tomorrow night and Chad Le Clos goes in the 200m free before the
:23:02. > :23:05.200m fly so he'll be absolutely wiped out. Those three - him,
:23:06. > :23:10.collect Le Clos obviously meet -- Chad Le Clos beat Michael Phelps in
:23:11. > :23:17.the last Olympic Games, which was a huge shock and we had the moment
:23:18. > :23:20.with Burt Le Clos and you have Laszlo Czeh, who has come second to
:23:21. > :23:24.Michael Phelps in the Olympics games. If Michael Phelps wasn't
:23:25. > :23:27.around, Laszlo Czeh would be a big, big name within the Olympic sport.
:23:28. > :23:33.Those three tomorrow evening, it will be touch and go. If I was a
:23:34. > :23:36.betting man, Michael Phelps looked a built heavy this morning. Chad
:23:37. > :23:42.didn't show a lot. He never does. He takes hinges easy. Laszlo was
:23:43. > :23:45.fastest this morning and I'd probably say him but unfortunately
:23:46. > :23:48.that will not go down well with the crowd. They love Michael Phelps.
:23:49. > :23:51.Mark, have a great evening. Thank you very much indeed.
:23:52. > :23:56.Let's look at the key times for you. 2:21. Set your alarms or simply stay
:23:57. > :24:01.up with us for James Guy. He sneaked into the final of the 200m
:24:02. > :24:06.freestyle. Four gold medals to be won at 2:30 to see off Australia's
:24:07. > :24:10.reigning World Champion -- see if Emily Seebohm from Australia can win
:24:11. > :24:14.gold and then Emily's boyfriend Mitch Larkin is looking to make it a
:24:15. > :24:18.special night for them in the men's event and then we shall see Chad Le
:24:19. > :24:23.Clos, as discussed with Mark, and Michael Phelps in action in the
:24:24. > :24:27.men's 200m butterfly semifinals at around 3:10. That's a swimming
:24:28. > :24:31.schedule this evening. Also let's get up to date with what's happening
:24:32. > :24:37.in the tennis. This has been fascinating over the past few days.
:24:38. > :24:42.If you were with us, you'd have seen the Murray brothers crash out, Novak
:24:43. > :24:52.Djokovic out, the Williams sisters out. Venus went in the women's
:24:53. > :24:59.singles. This is Serena taking on Alize
:25:00. > :25:03.Cornet. She's just taken the first set there but she's being pushed.
:25:04. > :25:07.We've got a bit of weightlifting for you today because the men's 62kg
:25:08. > :25:18.weightlifting competition is drawing to a close. Let's get up to date
:25:19. > :25:22.with what you need to know. Men's weightlifting appeared at the first
:25:23. > :25:28.modern Olympics and has featured at every Games since 1920. While the
:25:29. > :25:32.women's competition only made its debut in Sydney in 2000. The aim of
:25:33. > :25:36.weightlifting is simple - to lift the greatest weight possible. There
:25:37. > :25:40.are two types of lift, the snatch and the clean-and-jerk. Competitors
:25:41. > :25:43.have to compete both lifts and the winner is the person whose combined
:25:44. > :25:48.weight total is the greatest. The snatch is a lift where the bar bell
:25:49. > :25:52.is raised above the head to locked arms in one continuous movement. The
:25:53. > :25:58.athlete starts in the squat position and must flip the weight so it moves
:25:59. > :26:02.in an arc to a position above their head. When sure secure in this
:26:03. > :26:07.position, they rise and complete the left. The clean and jerk is
:26:08. > :26:11.performed in two stages. The bar bell is gripped, palms downwards and
:26:12. > :26:14.moved to the shoulders. The jerk is where the athletes bends and then
:26:15. > :26:19.extends the legs and arms to bring the bar bell to full stretch. They
:26:20. > :26:22.must then stand still with the feet in line with the bar until they're
:26:23. > :26:25.given the signal by three judges that the lift is God. Each
:26:26. > :26:29.weightlifter has three attempts in both the snatch and the
:26:30. > :26:34.clean-and-clerk with the combined total of the twoest -- two highest
:26:35. > :26:39.successful lifts completing the result. If after three attempts,
:26:40. > :26:44.they fail to register a correct lift, they're eliminated. Olympic
:26:45. > :26:48.weightlifting requires more than great strength, excellent balance
:26:49. > :26:53.and stability. Stability and speed is essential to a weightlifter's
:26:54. > :26:59.quest for glory. It is one of the great weightlifting competitions and
:27:00. > :27:04.what we've seen tonight - Egypt's Ahmed Saad has set a world record
:27:05. > :27:09.but it's that man, Oscar Figueroa who leads after the snatch rounds
:27:10. > :27:15.having lifted 142kg. He won silver in London. This is where we are
:27:16. > :27:25.right now. It's Figueroa who leads. Then we've got Irawan and Kharki.
:27:26. > :27:43.That looked tough. Oh... We don't see it very often but there's the
:27:44. > :27:49.squat jerk. Why don't we see it very often?
:27:50. > :27:54.Because it's extremely tough to do. Split jerk is the most preferred
:27:55. > :27:58.because, if there is any movement, any forward or backward movement,
:27:59. > :28:02.you've got a chance to adjust your body underneath the bar. With a
:28:03. > :28:09.squat jerk, you land it or you don't. He's posted 305kg at the
:28:10. > :28:12.moment. He's in the lead. Throws his shoulders back. Has to work really
:28:13. > :28:17.hard to stand with the clean. Look at that. If you want to try that at
:28:18. > :28:20.home, bake sure your hands are fairly close together, shoulder
:28:21. > :28:25.width apart. If you can go into a squat position with a broom stick
:28:26. > :28:32.overhead, got to keep the feet flat. OK. The Indonesian now. A chance to
:28:33. > :28:39.put himself into first spot. Comfortable. Short and sharp.
:28:40. > :28:46.CHEERING Really good timing on that dip and
:28:47. > :29:05.drive. And remember that Irawan was 142kg in the snatch. So now the lead
:29:06. > :29:09.sis at 312kg in total. Well Oscar Figueroa of Columbia has increased
:29:10. > :29:15.his starting weight to 172kg. That's it. He has to come out on 172kg.
:29:16. > :29:22.He's adjusted it twice. Really fast underneath the bar.
:29:23. > :29:32.Kharki has just adjusted his as well to 173kg.
:29:33. > :29:34.So we now knock back depending on what Irawan is going to do. Irawan
:29:35. > :29:37.is going up as well. CHEERING
:29:38. > :29:53.So we need to see the Colombian come out. So Irawan has gone up.
:29:54. > :29:58.CHEERING Oscar Figueroa comes out to huge
:29:59. > :30:19.applause. This would put him into the lead.
:30:20. > :30:46.Clean is good. Just the hands. Nice. CHEERING
:30:47. > :30:53.Oh, if he wins tonight, they're going to lift the roof. So he's in
:30:54. > :31:00.the lead. The lead now sits at 314kg.
:31:01. > :31:08.This is a tough one to call. Out of the three of the guys on top, Kharki
:31:09. > :31:14.was probably the least impressive. These are tough weights to call
:31:15. > :31:18.right now. Basically, Irawan needs one kilogram more than anything
:31:19. > :31:23.Figueroa Mosouera does. But I think they've all got a little bit more so
:31:24. > :31:29.they're probably going to play second attempt as they planned.
:31:30. > :31:52.That will force Irawan to 175kg I would have thought.
:31:53. > :31:59.Nah. He's got a lot to make up for. He
:32:00. > :32:08.was 1 # 30 kg in the snatch. So he was a long way behind. But the bar
:32:09. > :32:14.for him is set at 173kg. This will be a new personal best. Yeah, by a
:32:15. > :32:27.couple of kilos. And a new personal best in the...
:32:28. > :32:31.Overall total as well. This would put him into fourth. Hit
:32:32. > :32:36.him hard. Does he have the legs to push? Come on! Come on! Get it up
:32:37. > :32:39.there! Now does he have anything left? Shaking under the bar. That's
:32:40. > :32:42.an adjustment. That's OK. Put it down. Put it down. He's gone.
:32:43. > :32:50.APPLAUSE Unlucky. What you don't want to see
:32:51. > :32:53.is him collapsing underneath the weight if he loses consciousness. He
:32:54. > :33:02.put that down in time. He's safe. He's OK. Really tremendous effort on
:33:03. > :33:09.the clean. So just three of them left now. We have Mosquera of
:33:10. > :33:16.Columbia, Kharki of Kazakhstan and Irawan of Indonesia. I think that's
:33:17. > :33:24.a halting squat. You can see his body quivering underneath.
:33:25. > :33:30.It's a big weight for these guys. So Irawan is going to go to 175kg.
:33:31. > :33:38.Mosquera, of course, can go at the same weight because he's the lighter
:33:39. > :33:46.of the two. But Kharki has lifted himself to 177kg. He has a bit of
:33:47. > :33:52.work to do, though, because he was seven kilograms behind after the
:33:53. > :33:55.snatch. So unless he pulls out something absolutely miraculous, you
:33:56. > :34:03.would think that the battle is between the other two. Figueroa has
:34:04. > :34:09.played this board very well. He increased it to 174kg, then up to
:34:10. > :34:12.175kg, which meant that Irawan has got to come out one kilogram
:34:13. > :34:19.heavier. They've all used up their automatic changes. Irawan has gone
:34:20. > :34:23.to 176kg. And Mosquera has gone up to 176kg. Well, he's going to force
:34:24. > :34:40.Irawan out. He has to come out at 176kg. He doesn't have the option to
:34:41. > :34:47.change again. So here he is. Remember this is just his second
:34:48. > :34:52.attempt so he has another lift if needed. This represents a personal
:34:53. > :35:16.best of one kilogram. This would put him in the lead. That
:35:17. > :35:22.looked a struggle. No. Oh, he's under pressure now. If
:35:23. > :35:26.you hear any cheers, that's from the Colombians. That gives their man a
:35:27. > :35:32.bit of breathing space. And remember he is the heavier of the two
:35:33. > :35:37.lifters. Well, I think we'll see Figueroa Mosquera coming out on the
:35:38. > :35:41.same weight, which will force Irawan even heavier on his third and final
:35:42. > :35:47.attempt. I'm not sure Irawan has the legs to stand it any more. So this
:35:48. > :36:03.could be the lift for the gold medal. Certainly will confirm his
:36:04. > :36:07.lead. So the bronze is safe with Kharki of Kazakhstan. The argument
:36:08. > :36:14.is over silver and gold between these two men and they've both...
:36:15. > :36:22.Well, he has two lifts left and of course one more lift for Irawan.
:36:23. > :36:36.Waiting for quiet. So this to put himself in first place.
:36:37. > :36:42.It's there. CHEERING
:36:43. > :36:47.He extends his lead and he's laid the gauntlet down. Catch me if you
:36:48. > :36:54.can! Still one attempt remaining. Still needs to stay focused just in
:36:55. > :37:00.case one of these guys can attempt to upset the party. He looks
:37:01. > :37:04.exhausted, absolutely drained, and I understand that feeling, when you've
:37:05. > :37:12.dropped body weight, when you've focused for the last two hours. This
:37:13. > :37:21.is a big ask. He's got to keep it together now for one more attempt.
:37:22. > :37:26.Remember that Kharki was seven kilograms behind after the snatch.
:37:27. > :37:34.And Irawan and Mosquera were equal in the snatch at 142kg, but Mosquera
:37:35. > :37:40.is the lighter man. So Kharki now lifting at 177kg. If he nails this.
:37:41. > :38:06.It puts him into the silver medal position. No. He's another lift left
:38:07. > :38:15.now. It shows how much tension you have through the bar. Not much
:38:16. > :38:21.damaged apart from his pride. Wondering if he's tweaked a lat. If
:38:22. > :38:26.it's a lat, it would be engaged in that position, lost his grip by the
:38:27. > :38:33.looks of it. No, he didn't. I think that's what you call stacking it.
:38:34. > :38:43.Yeah. And he's going to get a bit of work on that lat by the looks of
:38:44. > :38:47.things. Well, it might almost be an anticlimax to the competition here.
:38:48. > :38:53.I think we've already seen the lift that's won the gold. In the
:38:54. > :38:56.background, Irawan has gone up to 178kg, so he's laying down the
:38:57. > :39:01.gauntlet to the Colombian. What will he do? I'm sure he'll go to the
:39:02. > :39:04.same. At the moment, they're scribbling something which we can't
:39:05. > :39:12.read from here. What does that look like? 179kg. Irawan has gone to
:39:13. > :39:20.179kg. He doesn't need 179kg. He needs 177kg. OK, so I get it - yeah,
:39:21. > :39:24.he's forcing Kharki back out. Irawan, I'm pretty sure, is
:39:25. > :39:28.satisfied twt silver but by him being called and now passing it
:39:29. > :39:34.straight back to Kharki, it forces Kharki out with no recovery. That's
:39:35. > :39:54.a nasty move, but it may well be necessary. This puts him in with a
:39:55. > :40:01.chance at silver. Again, didn't look confident at all.
:40:02. > :40:08.So he'll take the bronze medal. CHEERING
:40:09. > :40:17.I just don't think he ever had the bar high enough to get underneath
:40:18. > :40:29.it. Total of 305kg. Well, he still finishes with a bronze medal, still
:40:30. > :40:39.on the podium. And now... He was... It was high enough, only just,
:40:40. > :40:44.almost afraid of sitting right in. Right now, Irawan is going to come
:40:45. > :40:49.out and attempt 179kg. If he lifts that, he would force Mosquera to
:40:50. > :40:54.come out and also lift 179kg. If he misses. The party begins. If he
:40:55. > :41:01.misses, Mosquera is a gold medallist.
:41:02. > :41:05.This to put himself in first or Mosquera does not need his final
:41:06. > :41:14.lift. This is an Olympic record.
:41:15. > :41:20.Olympic record attempt. And he's cleaned it. Can he stand? Yes, he
:41:21. > :41:24.can. This will throw the gauntlet down. Oh.
:41:25. > :41:30.CHEERING Well... We know one thing for sure
:41:31. > :41:33.and that's that Figueroa Mosquera is the Olympic Champion. The question
:41:34. > :41:37.is are we going to see him again? There is something at stake - an
:41:38. > :41:43.Olympic record. So... Irawan will have to settle for
:41:44. > :41:47.silver. He's coming out. But the Colombian is going to come out and
:41:48. > :41:51.have a crack at the Olympic record. He's already secured the gold. This
:41:52. > :41:55.is about pride and a place in the history books. Well, an Olympic
:41:56. > :42:08.record, this would be, if successful. This is the one man we
:42:09. > :42:13.believe who has the capability. Of course, the issue is it's his
:42:14. > :42:21.Olympic record as well. He set this record back in 2012.
:42:22. > :42:26.He's the Olympic record-holder and he's trying to break it right now
:42:27. > :42:38.having already secured the gold medal. This is Figueroa Mosquera of
:42:39. > :42:50.Columbia. What an exclamation point this could
:42:51. > :42:59.be on his night. Strong clean. Come on! No. Unlucky.
:43:00. > :43:05.But he's still the gold medallist and this massive crowd, a lot of
:43:06. > :43:11.Colombians are going nuts for him and look at those tears of joy.
:43:12. > :43:19.CHEERING The gold medallist in the 62kg
:43:20. > :43:44.division CHEERING I think we're about to see a
:43:45. > :43:50.weightlifter retire. Do you think? This happens - forgive me, I've
:43:51. > :43:52.forgotten the name of the Greek lifter - he's leaving his shoes
:43:53. > :44:02.there. He's retired. CHEERING
:44:03. > :44:25.What a wonderful moment. At the age of 33... What a way to go out.
:44:26. > :44:27.CHEERING Oscar Albero Figueroa Mosquera,
:44:28. > :44:34.Mosquera hugging his coach and support staff. Well, if you're not
:44:35. > :44:54.choked back home, there's something wrong with you. What a way to end
:44:55. > :44:57.your career. Interesting to see what would have happened if he'd really
:44:58. > :45:02.needed it for the gold, a difference in focus. Who knows? Maybe he would
:45:03. > :45:08.have nailed it. In the end, he was just trying to raise his own Olympic
:45:09. > :45:17.record by two kilograms. Retires in tears of joy.
:45:18. > :45:21.Floods of tears. What a great story, Colombian Oscar Figueroa Mosquera
:45:22. > :45:29.lifting a combined weight of 318kg to take gold. He won silver medal at
:45:30. > :45:33.London 2012, Eko Yuli Irawan, of Indonesia, bronze medallist at 2012,
:45:34. > :45:38.getting the silver medal. One of the big stories from that event was that
:45:39. > :45:42.the Chinese World Champion was a solid bet for gold but there was a
:45:43. > :45:50.whopping DNF next to him. He did not finish. Well, if you fancy being the
:45:51. > :45:53.next Oscar Figueroa, then head to the BBC Sport "get inspired"
:45:54. > :45:58.website, punch in your postcode, find out which club you want to go
:45:59. > :46:02.to and you could be a gold medallist for Team GB in many years to come.
:46:03. > :46:07.Let's bring you up to date with what's happening in the women's
:46:08. > :46:12.singles. We've got Serena Williams on Centre Court. She's won the first
:46:13. > :46:18.set. Cornet is serving to stay in the match at 5-2.
:46:19. > :46:21.First task at hand here is to hold serve at 2-5. She's hoping to stay
:46:22. > :47:00.in the second round. She's tugging at her arm there, her
:47:01. > :48:04.shoulder. She was all over the place. Great
:48:05. > :48:37.control from Williams in that point. She's really using all of the court.
:48:38. > :49:36.The backhand was wide and with it, too much points -- two match points.
:49:37. > :50:11.Oh, a double fault. Just pressing too hard.
:50:12. > :50:32.Tried to get a better second serve in.
:50:33. > :50:38.Third match point and she converts on number three, Williams. Speaking
:50:39. > :50:45.of the number three, Cornet had won three in a row, but can't make it
:50:46. > :50:55.four. It was tough. Williams going through 7-6, 6-2.
:50:56. > :50:59.So disappointment in the doubles for Serena and Venus, but Serena powers
:51:00. > :51:07.into the women's singles third round. So we've got a little bit of
:51:08. > :51:10.table tennis coming up at 1:30, with Paul Drinkhall taking on a Belarus
:51:11. > :51:14.international player, a fantastic player by the way. And then we go
:51:15. > :51:19.into the pool for James Guy's final at around 2:21. One of the great
:51:20. > :51:22.things about the Olympics of course - we've brought you a little bit of
:51:23. > :51:26.weightlifting, dramatic scenes there - but also some other sports you
:51:27. > :51:31.don't necessarily see at this time in the Olympics. So let's have a
:51:32. > :51:37.little built of waterpolo tonight. -- little bit of waterpolo tonight.
:51:38. > :51:42.Waterpolo has been an Olympic sport since 1900 in Paris. There are seven
:51:43. > :51:47.players in a team, six so-called outfield players and a goalkeeper.
:51:48. > :51:50.But they're allowed six reserves and unlimited substitutions. Substitutes
:51:51. > :51:54.are crucial, because of the gruelling nature of the sport. The
:51:55. > :51:58.players are not allowed to touch the bottom of the pool at any point
:51:59. > :52:02.during a match. The best way to stay upright and ready is to keep the
:52:03. > :52:06.legs moving alternately backwards and forwards in what's known as the
:52:07. > :52:10.egg beater motion. There are two important lines in waterpolo - the
:52:11. > :52:14.two metres line and the five metres line. The two metres line is two
:52:15. > :52:16.metres from the goal and the attacking team are not allowed to
:52:17. > :52:21.pass this line unless they have possession of the ball or the ball
:52:22. > :52:24.is already in that area. If an attacking player is fouled within
:52:25. > :52:29.five metres of the goal, the referee can award a penalty shot from the
:52:30. > :52:33.five metres line. If a foul is committed further out than five
:52:34. > :52:37.metres, a free throw is awarded. Goalkeepers are allowed to use two
:52:38. > :52:42.hands at once but outfield players with only use one hand at a time.
:52:43. > :52:46.The game is split into four quarters of eight minutes but although the
:52:47. > :52:49.total playing time is 32 minutes, a game usually lasts for over an hour
:52:50. > :52:52.because it's stopped and started regularly. Each quarter begins with
:52:53. > :52:56.the two teams lined up on their goal lines and when the referee blows the
:52:57. > :53:02.whistle, the teams sprint towards the ball in the centre of the pool.
:53:03. > :53:06.A shot clock controls the time for shooting in waterpolo because, when
:53:07. > :53:14.in possession, teams only have 30 seconds to shoot at goal.
:53:15. > :53:17.Serbia are red hot favourites but Croatia are Olympic champions and
:53:18. > :53:37.they're taking on Montenegro tonight.
:53:38. > :53:43.So four quarters of eight minutes long. We'll have the swim-off to
:53:44. > :54:07.determine who is going to get first control of the ball.
:54:08. > :54:41.Here we go, then. The group stages of the men's waterpolo.
:54:42. > :54:54.The first goal of the game inside the opening seconds. What a start
:54:55. > :54:56.for Croatia. Great elevation out of us water and
:54:57. > :55:24.off the underside of the bar. 7-5 Croatia won their opening game
:55:25. > :55:28.against the USA. Montenegro looking for an immediate
:55:29. > :55:36.response. The goal-scorer brings the ball away. The whistle has now gone.
:55:37. > :55:42.Montenegro's Number 10 is going to sit out 20 seconds for a foul as he
:55:43. > :55:46.tried to swim back towards his own goal and ceesh Croatia, who are
:55:47. > :55:50.usually so -- Croatia, who are usually so good with the extra man,
:55:51. > :56:17.with a chance already to double their advantage.
:56:18. > :56:29.Radovic. Oh, hit the post. The goalkeeper
:56:30. > :56:52.didn't get a hand to it. It will be Croatia's ball. Long-range shot from
:56:53. > :56:57.Radovic. Two sides that like to play with a nice attacking style, seven
:56:58. > :57:11.seconds to go on the clock but it's bounced wide of the target.
:57:12. > :57:28.Garcia Gadea with the shot. Playing in his f fourth Olympic
:57:29. > :57:39.Games, the 32-year-old. That's a foul on the edge of the two
:57:40. > :57:45.metres loin. So Montenegro have a chance to level things up with the
:57:46. > :57:49.extra player. Oh, they've spilled the ball. That's
:57:50. > :57:58.clumsy. Frustration already for their coach. Croatia back up to a
:57:59. > :58:24.full complement of seven. Djokovic with the steal. Croatia with a great
:58:25. > :58:31.chance of a second goal! Oh, that's a fine save from Milos Scepanovic.
:58:32. > :58:51.The goal-scorer was looking for his second of the match.
:58:52. > :59:05.The ball turned over again by the Croatians back to Montenegro. It was
:59:06. > :59:16.Jokavic with the turnover foul. Croatia leading by one early goal.
:59:17. > :59:32.Montenegro are nicknamed the Red Sharks.
:59:33. > :59:50.We're halfway through the first quarter.
:59:51. > :00:11.It's about a 10-minute drive to the athletes' village to the venue for
:00:12. > :00:17.the waterpolo. Here come Montenegro again looking
:00:18. > :00:42.for that equaliser. Inside the 10 seconds on the shot clock.
:00:43. > :00:55.Croatia back on the attack again. Came past Italy, Spain, Australia,
:00:56. > :01:00.Greece and Kazakhstan in the group stages in London. Beat the USA in
:01:01. > :01:13.the quarterfinals, Montenegro in the semis, as we said, and then Italy in
:01:14. > :01:19.the final. Time out called here by the coach.
:01:20. > :01:27.Clearly not happy with the way his side have started this particular
:01:28. > :01:41.match. So a couple of minutes to - or a minute or so just to get some
:01:42. > :01:48.instructions across. You can see the diving pool down at
:01:49. > :01:51.the end refurbed for these Olympics after it was built for the 2007 pan
:01:52. > :01:54.American games. Really good facilities here. There's a couple of
:01:55. > :01:59.warm-up pools for the players and for the diving in particular there's
:02:00. > :02:03.a warm-up area where they strap them into harnesses so they can practise
:02:04. > :02:08.their dives outside the pool. It's very high-tech.
:02:09. > :02:13.The last group games in the finals will be at the main Aquatic Centre,
:02:14. > :02:21.which has seen some wonderful performances already.
:02:22. > :02:46.Montenegro trailing Croatia here by a goal to nil.
:02:47. > :02:50.Cyberia's number seven is swimming out, Marco -- Marko Macan. So
:02:51. > :04:23.Montenegro with another chance. rises out of the water to fire in
:04:24. > :04:32.the low shot for Luka Bukic and Milos Scepanovic.
:04:33. > :04:39.Croatia have played Montenegro twice at the Olympics, won one and lost
:04:40. > :04:46.one. This one back to all square. We thought it might be a tight game
:04:47. > :05:00.between these two. Sood save by Pavic. -- good save by Pavic.
:05:01. > :05:10.As I said, they've not had the best of times since Radko Ridic left
:05:11. > :05:13.them. Lost in the quarterfinals to Hungary at this year's European
:05:14. > :05:20.Championships. Oh, bounces just over the top. That was a well struck shot
:05:21. > :05:21.with the ball going flying in all directions off the surface of the
:05:22. > :05:45.water. Montenegro back on the attack once
:05:46. > :05:52.again. Fine stop there from Pavic. Really good stop by the keeper. 196
:05:53. > :05:59.international games to his credit. The Olympiakos goalkeeper. Named the
:06:00. > :06:07.best goalkeeper in the 2015 World League. So he's no slouch between
:06:08. > :06:24.the posts. Final few seconds of the first quarter.
:06:25. > :06:34.Brguljan, out of the water quick again. He took a deflection finds
:06:35. > :06:41.its way into the top corner and Darko Brguljan has his second goal
:06:42. > :06:52.of the game. It's actually flicked in off Anne Geddes.
:06:53. > :07:03.Took it from Josip Pavic's arms there and we're back to 2-2. Time
:07:04. > :07:48.out here called by Croatia. The first call of the game.
:07:49. > :07:52.Mario Sepulveda waits with six seconds left on the clock here for
:07:53. > :07:57.Croatia trying to find themselves a slender lead to take into the second
:07:58. > :08:00.quarter. Good save by the keeper. And there goes the hooter for the
:08:01. > :08:12.end of the first quarter. We'll be back for the second quarter
:08:13. > :08:15.later. A reminder that 2:00 in the morning, we will be crossing to yet
:08:16. > :08:20.more pool action because we're going to the swimming pool and more
:08:21. > :08:26.finals. All eyes on James Guy. Can he win another medal for Team GB?
:08:27. > :08:29.That's at around 2:21 in the men's 200 m freestyle. Let's bring you up
:08:30. > :08:33.to date with what's happening around the Olympic Games and what you can
:08:34. > :08:36.watch right now. You can watch some beach volleyball if you like on BBC
:08:37. > :08:40.Four. That is live. Canada against Italy. Italy won the opening match
:08:41. > :08:45.2-0 against Austria on the opening day of the Games. If you want a
:08:46. > :08:49.little bit of red button action tonight, how about some table
:08:50. > :08:53.tennis. We will be keeping an eye on Paul Drinkhall into the last 16 of
:08:54. > :08:58.the men's table tennis. First Briton to reach that stage since 1992.
:08:59. > :09:02.Follows this match. So we'll keep you up to date that that. And also
:09:03. > :09:07.in the women's hockey, the Netherlands are the team to beat as
:09:08. > :09:10.the reigning Olympic champions but keep a look out for Argentina
:09:11. > :09:13.because they could win the gold medal. They're taking on Japan.
:09:14. > :09:17.That's also available on the red button. They are 2-0 up against
:09:18. > :09:27.Japan. To help you make even more of the
:09:28. > :09:30.Rio 2016 Olympic Games from boxing to badminton, hockey to handball,
:09:31. > :09:36.we've got it all covered right here on the BBC. Alongside coverage on

:10:01. > :10:03.you can set up news and medal alerts and reminders to follow all of your
:10:04. > :10:11.favourite sports. Thank you for that guide and it
:10:12. > :10:15.appear, judging by my timeline on social media that you're loving the
:10:16. > :10:22.water pole oi which is great for us. It's Croatia against Montenegro and
:10:23. > :10:33.rejoin our commentator Mark Tompkins now.
:10:34. > :10:44.I think that he is going to be beaten to it again by Croatia.
:10:45. > :11:12.Indeed he is. Luka Bukic winning the swim-off.
:11:13. > :11:22.Turn over ball there with the goalkeeper, Mario Sepulveda. --
:11:23. > :11:27.Milos Scepanovic. We've only seen a couple of exclusions for 20 seconds
:11:28. > :11:32.so far but I'm sure that that will increase as the game wears on.
:11:33. > :11:40.Inside the final ten seconds on the clock. If the shot doesn't come in
:11:41. > :11:44.here for ten seconds, it goes over to the other side. It has been won
:11:45. > :12:04.by Serbia, though. Paskovic it was with the turnover.
:12:05. > :12:09.Croatia trying to find themselves with some space there. Can't go
:12:10. > :12:20.inside the 2-metre box unless you've got the ball. Drasko Brguljan
:12:21. > :12:50.complaining that he was fouled by Filip Klikovac.
:12:51. > :12:56.Turnover foul gives Montenegro the ball back once again. Good defensive
:12:57. > :13:13.side, Croatia. To get the shot in quickly, which
:13:14. > :13:43.they've done. Pushed away by Josip Pavic. Maro Jokovicwith the shot.
:13:44. > :13:49.A bit of holding going on. Two very physical sides. Such a lot goes on
:13:50. > :13:54.under the surface of the water that goes unseen by the officials. Do
:13:55. > :14:21.their best from the lofty position to keep an eye on what they can.
:14:22. > :14:47.No addition to the scoring so far in the second quarter. Still 2-2.
:14:48. > :14:51.Brguljan with the steal for Croatia. Here they come back on the attack
:14:52. > :15:13.once again. God save. The clock was ticking down
:15:14. > :15:30.to get it but it's a fine stop from Milos Scepanovic. Tipping the ball
:15:31. > :15:38.away one hand in. Montenegro are going to be a go there with a player
:15:39. > :15:44.like Yanovic. Picked off again and Croatia have not made the man
:15:45. > :15:55.advantage count. Back now with Scepanovic.
:15:56. > :16:12.Drasko Brguljan. Four steals each so far in the first-half. Oh, great
:16:13. > :16:19.goal. Low shot. Virtually never left the surface of the water there from
:16:20. > :16:23.Antonio Petrovic. Having trailed in the first quarter, Montenegro lead
:16:24. > :16:30.for the first time by 3-2 goals. Really low shot across the surface
:16:31. > :16:39.of the water. Pavic disappointed not to have kept it out. But it was a
:16:40. > :16:58.quality stroke though from Antonio Petrovic. A couple of changes by
:16:59. > :16:59.Croatia. You can have the rolling substitutes during the course of the
:17:00. > :17:17.match here. Just over three minutes left in the
:17:18. > :17:23.first-half. Another exclusion for Montenegro. Antonio Petrovic who
:17:24. > :17:27.just scored that goal as the map out for 20 seconds now so a chance for
:17:28. > :17:35.Croatia to get back into this one and level. O, they've not taken the
:17:36. > :17:55.opportunity, again. Shot going wide from Luka Loncar.
:17:56. > :18:12.Oh, good save. That looked in all the way. Somehow clawed that away
:18:13. > :18:23.off the line, Scepanovic. Vjekoslav Paskovic with the shot. Kept out by
:18:24. > :18:28.the Croatia goalkeeper. Well spotted turnover again and Montenegro
:18:29. > :18:36.winning the ball back off the Croatians with ease at the moment.
:18:37. > :18:38.The coach is not over pleased on the sidelines but Montenegro just coming
:18:39. > :18:50.into the game a little more now. Holding against... (WHISTLE) holding
:18:51. > :19:19.against the Croatian number 8. Troy Andro Buslje. Tremendous taking over
:19:20. > :19:23.from Radovic, a man who has amassed 36 medals in championships and
:19:24. > :19:31.another coming in. Montenegro with a time-out here. I'm sure that
:19:32. > :19:43.Vladamir Goykovic is a much happier man after seeing the side come back
:19:44. > :19:48.from there and take the lead. Andro Buslje is the man sitting out 20
:19:49. > :19:53.seconds and a chance for Montenegro now that they've had a chance to
:19:54. > :20:09.increase their advantage before the halfway point.
:20:10. > :20:16.Drasko Brguljan. Trying to pick his mum.
:20:17. > :20:26.Inside 10 seconds. Good save again. Straight at the
:20:27. > :20:41.goalkeeper. Pavic makes a save. Both goalkeepers have been in good form
:20:42. > :20:46.so far in this game. Montenegro just missed out on medals in 2008 as well
:20:47. > :20:58.as 2012. They finished fourth there as well in Beijing. They'll be a
:20:59. > :21:02.player down again as Zdravko Radic is penalised and a time-out called
:21:03. > :21:11.here by the Croatian coach. Just over a minute to go in the second
:21:12. > :21:17.quarter. Sandro Sukno getting Croatia off to a great start with
:21:18. > :21:22.the opening game. Darko Brguljan levelled. And then Antonio Petrovic
:21:23. > :21:56.gave Montenegro their slender lead. So can Croatia make their extra
:21:57. > :21:58.player count? Something they haven't managed to do so far in the
:21:59. > :22:16.first-half. Yes, they can, is the answer.
:22:17. > :22:29.Finally, a little bit of cheer in front of goal for the Croatians. A
:22:30. > :22:41.shot beyond Scepanovic. Coming back to a tied game at 3-3.
:22:42. > :22:50.One of the plus 30s in the Croatian line-up, Drasko Brguljan, 35 years
:22:51. > :22:53.of age. He's one of the oldest players in the team, just a little
:22:54. > :23:00.older than Josip Pavic, the goalkeeper. He would say that it is
:23:01. > :23:02.experience, though. And rightly so. 143 international matches. Three
:23:03. > :23:19.Olympic Games. This is his fourth. Final few seconds of the first-half.
:23:20. > :23:22.No foul that time as Monday month went in search of a goal that would
:23:23. > :23:25.give them the lead back again and just a few seconds to go here for
:23:26. > :23:32.Croatia. And they grabbed the lead right on the stroke of the half time
:23:33. > :23:37.interval. Sandro Sukno gets the second of the game. And it was all
:23:38. > :23:38.down to the vision of Josip Pavic, the long ball, to pick out Sandro
:23:39. > :23:54.Sukno. Beyond Scepanovic. And it is
:23:55. > :23:59.Croatia's turn to turn things around too, to lead by 4-3 goals. Last shot
:24:00. > :24:06.of the half comes in, blocked by the goalkeeper. While entertaining it
:24:07. > :24:10.has been between these two powerhouses of waterpolo at the
:24:11. > :24:16.halfway point in the aquat yuck centre. -- Aquatic Centre.
:24:17. > :24:19.What a great match this is. If you want to continue watching this live,
:24:20. > :24:22.it's available online but if you're watching us on cable or digital
:24:23. > :24:25.satellite, it is available on your red button.
:24:26. > :24:29.So we've got a little bit of table tennis coming up for you and we'll
:24:30. > :24:30.also show you what happened in the women's gold medal rugby 7 it's
:24:31. > :24:43.match after tonight's headlines. Britain's Tom Daley and Daniel
:24:44. > :24:58.Goodfellow won Olympic bronze in the sin cronised platform. Well done to
:24:59. > :25:05.them. And our boy, Ling won in the trap.
:25:06. > :25:15.And Great Britain's men came fourth in the owl around after Lewis Smith
:25:16. > :25:20.came off the horse mpth defeats to New Zealand and Canada ruined Great
:25:21. > :25:29.Britain's chances of a medal in the women's rugby 7 it's.
:25:30. > :25:36.And a wonderful celebration for Brazil winning the first gold of the
:25:37. > :25:44.games with Silva in the Judo. And just take a look at these scenes.
:25:45. > :25:49.Amaying stuff. So this is how we're lining up this evening. Plenty more
:25:50. > :25:53.action to come. Drink in the last 16 of the men's table tennis. The first
:25:54. > :25:59.Briton since 1992. His match starts at 1:30. In the pool, World Champion
:26:00. > :26:07.James Guy's final at 2-21. Michael Phelps won the 19th gold medal on
:26:08. > :26:09.day two. He meets Chad Le Clos about 40 minutes later. Just two of the
:26:10. > :26:24.superstars of these Games. Michael Phelps, the greatest
:26:25. > :26:32.Olympian in history. Fantastic, a new world record. Sun Yang, so good.
:26:33. > :26:41.Oh my goodness me, Chad Le Clos won the gold. The new Olympic champion
:26:42. > :26:48.is Missy Franklin of the USA. Manaudou has won it. This gold is
:26:49. > :26:54.world record for Hossou. Cate Campbell gets the gold. Bronte with
:26:55. > :27:00.there. The silver to Jazz Carlin, wonderful silver medal for great
:27:01. > :27:06.principle. Lochete wins the silver medal. Great swimming from Emily
:27:07. > :27:12.Seebohm of Australia. The gold medal goes to James Guy of Great Britain.
:27:13. > :27:18.Adam Peaty takes Olympic gold for Great Britain.
:27:19. > :27:25.Wonderful scenes there from the pool and Adam Peaty will be in the pool
:27:26. > :27:28.with Helen Skelton shortly. But disappointment for Great Britain's
:27:29. > :27:31.women in the Rugby 7s. They played so well in the competition but
:27:32. > :27:36.missed out on the bronze medal which meant it was a clash between the old
:27:37. > :27:47.rivals in the gold medal match - Australia against New Zealand.
:27:48. > :27:59.Emilee Cherry. Big there. Manuel, they've worked the overlap, the long
:28:00. > :28:07.pass out to McAllister who scores the first try of the gold medal
:28:08. > :28:12.final. New Zealand take the lead. The ball comes out and Brazier.
:28:13. > :28:20.Takes the penalty. She'll be disappointed. She is the flier in
:28:21. > :28:27.the Australian side. Emilee Cherry, just to open up both sides.
:28:28. > :28:35.Tonegato. No mistake this time, or is there doubt? Yeah, great finish -
:28:36. > :28:53.what a tackle. Gets it to Quirke. Quirke delays and
:28:54. > :28:57.delivers. Alicia Quirke - is that a deliberate knock-on? If it is, it
:28:58. > :29:08.could be yellow. It is. It's going to be a yellow card and it's Portia
:29:09. > :29:15.Woodman. Kwuirke fires on and it is a great chance for Australia to
:29:16. > :29:23.score their second try and they do. And it's Pelitz who scores.
:29:24. > :29:33.Dalton to Quirke. Emilee Cherry. Kazlik - if she gets away, nobody
:29:34. > :29:36.will champ her and Cherry gets away and nobody will catch her. Nor
:29:37. > :29:45.Green. Australia extend the lead in the gold medal final. What an
:29:46. > :29:49.outstanding try. Looking down here. And Portia Woodman stamping her feet
:29:50. > :29:53.as one very angry young man here. She knows she's cost her side dear
:29:54. > :30:00.by giving the yellow card but what a wonderful try. And again it was
:30:01. > :30:05.Kazlik who set the scene here. Kazlik. Kazlik, she could go on her
:30:06. > :30:11.own and she does. It wouldn't have been a final without a contribution
:30:12. > :30:16.from the tournament's outstanding player, Charlotte Caslick. I agree,
:30:17. > :30:21.Eddie. I think that this woman is the number one player in this
:30:22. > :30:31.tournament. She is the difference between these two teams. Mab
:30:32. > :30:36.Alister. Nobody can stop her at the moment, as she goes over for New
:30:37. > :30:41.Zealand's second try. It may come too late but McAllister
:30:42. > :30:45.has made her mark on this final. This has been a wonderful first-ever
:30:46. > :30:57.Olympic Rugby 7s final. Portia Woodman, one of the great
:30:58. > :31:02.finishers, will have a say in the final. 24-15 for the moment.
:31:03. > :31:09.Australia lead. New Zealand's third try. New Zealand score the last try.
:31:10. > :31:17.Head down. Knows that it's a losing course for New Zealand. They have
:31:18. > :31:21.lost to Australia in the final by 24-17.
:31:22. > :31:26.So many congratulations to Australia and the men get under way tomorrow
:31:27. > :31:29.in the first match of the men's competition taking on France. Team
:31:30. > :31:33.GB take on Canada just a few moments later and then it will be all eyes
:31:34. > :31:39.on New Zealand. Of course, Sonny Bill Williams, who was a Rugby World
:31:40. > :31:43.Cup winner in 2015 in the 15-man game. So all eyes on Sonny Bill
:31:44. > :31:49.Williams. So the next destination is the pool because we've got another
:31:50. > :31:54.busy night of swimming action. We're heading to the Olympic Aquatic
:31:55. > :31:59.Stadium, a gorgeous stadium designed by a Rio artist. Let's join Helen.
:32:00. > :32:02.Have you recovered from last night? We have just about peeled ourselves
:32:03. > :32:07.off from the ceiling but we're going to hang on to Becky because we've
:32:08. > :32:12.seen Michael Phelps's baby boy, Boomer, here to support his dad. He
:32:13. > :32:18.begins his quest to get that title from Chad Le Clos so that was there.
:32:19. > :32:23.So cute! Oh! And there's my little one! So cute. Baby Boomer is so cute
:32:24. > :32:28.and baby Boomer might have something to celebrate later. All of the big
:32:29. > :32:33.names in the pool. Katie Ledecky, Chad Le Clos. But let's talk about
:32:34. > :32:38.our guys. James Guy. World Champion in the final he's going for tonight.
:32:39. > :32:41.How would you rate his chances? He scrapes in eighth and he is in an
:32:42. > :32:45.outside line but I don't think that that is bad for James. He sticks to
:32:46. > :32:48.his own race plan and outside, you know, anything can happen. If you
:32:49. > :32:52.have a lane, anything can happen. So I think that he has looked a little
:32:53. > :32:57.bit tired this meet. Not his usual self. He's not done personal best
:32:58. > :33:00.times here. So I'd love to see him get back down to his personal best.
:33:01. > :33:05.Even if he doesn't medal, James would be happy if he comes out
:33:06. > :33:08.having done a strong time. Is he one of the guys, though, that likes to
:33:09. > :33:11.be the underdog? Because at the World Championships last year, he
:33:12. > :33:15.kind of burst on to the scene, took a gold and took a silver as and as
:33:16. > :33:18.we say, a lot of talk about him here and it hasn't come off for him but
:33:19. > :33:22.maybe tonight is the night? I think he's a born racer and we've seen
:33:23. > :33:27.that time and time again with James he's a great racer. And to be
:33:28. > :33:29.honest, I think for him, this amazing opportunity has already had
:33:30. > :33:33.an Olympic final now. It might have been a little bit of that. Whereas
:33:34. > :33:37.he's swimming into the meet and having seen Adam and Jazz last
:33:38. > :33:40.night, that surely has got to have lifted him. Because we talked about
:33:41. > :33:45.Adam Peaty and the positive effect that his medal and Jazz Carlin's
:33:46. > :33:51.medal will have had on the team, probably woke them all up here. But
:33:52. > :33:54.you know, that's definitely a good thing because Siobhan O'Connor said
:33:55. > :33:57.after the heats this morning that it has had a positive effect on the
:33:58. > :34:06.group and they want to carry that on. What will it do for Hanna and
:34:07. > :34:10.Siobhan? Hannah made it through to 12th but at the same time, this is
:34:11. > :34:16.not Hannah's main event. It's her birthday and she said that it is a
:34:17. > :34:21.bonus event. Whereas Siobhan, she looked fantastic. So controlled and
:34:22. > :34:29.smooth. She didn't look like she had to push it too hard. Obviously
:34:30. > :34:33.Hasszou was in there. They're in separate semifinals. So it will be
:34:34. > :34:36.interesting tonight to see what time Siobhan can go and I hope that she
:34:37. > :34:39.breaks the British record. . She seemed so relacked when she spoke to
:34:40. > :34:43.Sharon this morning so there's nothing to say she won't do it, is
:34:44. > :34:47.there. So plenty to look forward to in the pool. British interest, I
:34:48. > :34:53.hope that you don't mind me calling you Jase! A bit familiar there. All
:34:54. > :34:58.of the big names are out. Go for a cuddle with baby Boomer! Oh. We'll
:34:59. > :35:00.be back with you shortly but let's spin around the Olympic venues to
:35:01. > :35:05.show you what's happening and all available for you at the touch of a
:35:06. > :35:08.button. A lot of people contacting me last night saying they're loving
:35:09. > :35:11.the beach volleyball. That's available on BBC Four if you fancy a
:35:12. > :35:18.little bit of Italy against Canada. That's on BBC Four. But weed' love
:35:19. > :35:22.it if you stayed with us here on BBC One here. We have a little bit of
:35:23. > :35:30.hockey for you as well. That is on the red button. It's Argentina
:35:31. > :35:35.taking on Japan. However, if tennis is your thing and you want a bit of
:35:36. > :35:40.Australia Japan, Kei Nishikori taking on John Millman. That's on
:35:41. > :35:44.Centre Court available online. Novak Djokovic, who we saw yesterday
:35:45. > :35:49.evening go out in the singles is back on court on court number one
:35:50. > :35:53.representing Serbia in the doubles. And we have been watching here on
:35:54. > :35:58.BBC One the waterpolo. Croatia taking on Montenegro. We left it at
:35:59. > :36:06.half time. Croatia now leading Montenegro by 5-4. Although I think
:36:07. > :36:14.they've just scored again. That's available online too. Get inspired
:36:15. > :36:21.as BBC Sports inspires you to get active. Get SPIRED IS ON THE BBC
:36:22. > :36:23.SPORT WEBSITE AND YOU CAN FIND INSPIRATIONal
:36:24. > :36:28.(STORIES FROM PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU AS WELL AS HINTS AND TIPS)
:36:29. > :36:31.To give it a go. There's also an activity finder to help you find
:36:32. > :36:34.something to try near you and tell us how you're getting on and ask us
:36:35. > :36:38.questions for the social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook and
:36:39. > :36:43.maybe you can inspire someone else to give something a try. So now,
:36:44. > :36:48.we're passing the baton over to you. Just get up, get inspired and get
:36:49. > :36:52.active. Well, I just wonder how many people woke up this morning in UK
:36:53. > :36:56.and heard the news about Adam Peaty. Got out the swimming goggles and the
:36:57. > :36:57.bathers and dived into the pool. Let's remind ourselves of the four
:36:58. > :37:17.men who have won gold in the pool. David Wilkie is superb. And it's a
:37:18. > :37:27.new world record. David Wilkie! He's come back marvellously. And it's a
:37:28. > :37:35.good medal for Duncan Goodhew. And Moorehouse has won! This is
:37:36. > :37:39.quite extraordinary. There's oceans of clear blue water between Adam
:37:40. > :37:45.Peaty and the rest of the world. Absolutely fantastic. Adam Peaty
:37:46. > :37:50.takes Olympic gold for Britain by an absolute street. Olympic champion,
:37:51. > :37:57.gold medal Adam Peaty of Great Britain. A night that will live long
:37:58. > :38:01.in the memory. We're concentrating this evening on the swimming finals.
:38:02. > :38:06.Back to the pool shortly. James Guy's final comes up at 2:21. Could
:38:07. > :38:09.we be looking at another medal for Team GB? Let's bring you up to date
:38:10. > :38:19.with what happened in the gymnastics today.
:38:20. > :38:31.Where are we going to go with this? Where are we going to put the money?
:38:32. > :38:37.It can go anywhere? Now he needs a big dismount. Beautiful there full
:38:38. > :38:40.twist. David Valeski from the pummell
:38:41. > :38:59.horse. Russia going good. That was a great routine. Oh, dear, things not
:39:00. > :39:02.going to plan for Japan. Such an exciting young gymnast. Six-star
:39:03. > :39:10.value. It's going to be hard. It's going to be high and wow, it was so
:39:11. > :39:16.well landed as well. That was right on the top of his game. These guys
:39:17. > :39:23.are making these hugely difficult vaults look so simple. Alex Nador,
:39:24. > :39:32.the 25-year-old. Fourth highest qualifier on vault as a team for the
:39:33. > :39:37.US, what can they do here? Well, a super controlled double in the pike
:39:38. > :39:44.position. USA being USA, they're not about to sit down and roll over.
:39:45. > :39:49.This man, regarded as the finest gymnast on the planet. Absolute
:39:50. > :39:56.style. Beautiful, full of grit all the way through. That's how you land
:39:57. > :40:04.the P-bar routine, isn't it! Max Whitlock on the high bar working on
:40:05. > :40:07.all six bits of apparatus doing everything he can to get Great
:40:08. > :40:13.Britain the Olympic medal. He comes in on the double twist and the
:40:14. > :40:20.double straight. Three excellent bar routines from the British lads.
:40:21. > :40:26.Yeah, China are on the way. Japan lead. Russia in second. China,
:40:27. > :40:35.they're in third. Great Britain in fourth. Oh! How is that possible? I
:40:36. > :40:43.think that that was four! Yes, it was four. Lovely lift. Super triple
:40:44. > :40:50.twist! World silver medallist. Lewis, we need you now! Oh! What a
:40:51. > :40:54.shame. And today it just wasn't his day. As it stands at the moment,
:40:55. > :41:00.it's Japan, China, Great Britain. Where are Russia going to finish?
:41:01. > :41:08.All eyes here on the score board. It's a silver medal for the
:41:09. > :41:12.Russians. So Japan get a gold medal. So well done to Japan.
:41:13. > :41:16.Disappointment for Team GB in the men's final but obviously tomorrow
:41:17. > :41:23.we will concentrate on the women's gymnastics finals. All eyes surely
:41:24. > :41:30.on the American team especially bile bile bile. -- Simone Biles. All day,
:41:31. > :41:34.we've been talking about Adam Peaty there and Jazz Carlin who missed out
:41:35. > :41:38.on London 2012. We've been learning all about their training regimes and
:41:39. > :41:45.we look at the four-year training sacrifice.
:41:46. > :41:56.Four years, 208 weeks. 126 million, 144,000 seconds. That is the time
:41:57. > :42:01.period, the defining time period that articulates the both the per-I
:42:02. > :42:06.will and the privilege of being an -- peril and the privilege of being
:42:07. > :42:09.an elimpian. The thing that got me into cycling was the dream of going
:42:10. > :42:14.to the Olympic Games and competing for Britain. Everything that you do,
:42:15. > :42:17.everything is to train for the Olympics and compete there. It is
:42:18. > :42:23.going to be challenging but this is what we live for. This creates the
:42:24. > :42:27.stakes. One tiny error on the grand stage and you have to wait four
:42:28. > :42:32.years to correct it. The defending champion thrown out
:42:33. > :42:36.for two false starts. Sometimes you never get a chance to correct it. I
:42:37. > :42:41.never actually hit the wall that we talk about in the marathon but I hit
:42:42. > :42:46.it with a bang in Athens. It took a lot of time to mentally and
:42:47. > :42:51.physically get back because I felt like I let a lot of people down. You
:42:52. > :42:54.get one shot in four years and you always think this is the last chance
:42:55. > :42:57.to win Olympic gold. You can be introduced for the rest of your life
:42:58. > :42:59.as an Olympian and that means something to the world.
:43:00. > :43:02.Fundamentally, the Olympic Games isn't about what happens in the
:43:03. > :43:08.spotlight, it's the stuff that we never see. The training bases, the
:43:09. > :43:12.altitude camps. The 5:30 am on a frosty morning in February where all
:43:13. > :43:16.you really want to do is stay in bed. If you have a life when you're
:43:17. > :43:22.preparing for the Olympics, then you're not do it right. It's so hard
:43:23. > :43:26.to train and go up and down that black line 400 times in one day.
:43:27. > :43:30.Having to get up savagely early every morning and flog ourselves up
:43:31. > :43:34.and down the lake and miss weekends. These are not things that I
:43:35. > :43:39.masochistly enjoy. This is the price of success. What looks like an awful
:43:40. > :43:42.way to live your life for us is actually normal. That routine is
:43:43. > :43:46.part of who they are, part of how they live their life and therefore,
:43:47. > :43:51.you just get on with it. Once you get that feeling, being on the
:43:52. > :43:56.podium, you know, it's just like... You wake up and you're like, I'm not
:43:57. > :44:02.tired, I'm going for a run. I have to go for a run You have to sustain
:44:03. > :44:06.your motivation for four years. You have to make sacrifices for four
:44:07. > :44:12.years. You have to make strangers of your family for four years. My life
:44:13. > :44:20.has, essentially, been overtaken by a long jumper. Greg missed our first
:44:21. > :44:24.scan. Greg almost missed our child's first birthday. He does mills out on
:44:25. > :44:28.a lot and I think that it is tough for him because being a dad is more
:44:29. > :44:32.important than being an athlete to him. As a mum, it's hard to fully
:44:33. > :44:37.switch off from thinking about your child and you know, if I didn't put
:44:38. > :44:40.100% in and was just wasting time, it would just be awful. I need to
:44:41. > :44:44.know that I'm doing this for really good reasons and that he's going to
:44:45. > :44:49.be able to look back and be like - wow, look at what my mum did. When
:44:50. > :44:52.you get on to the stage itself, the psychological danger flips. The
:44:53. > :44:58.problem now is not motivation, but fear. You want to perform so much
:44:59. > :45:04.that you become paranoid that you won't. I think the key to being
:45:05. > :45:10.successful in that moment is being able to manage your emotions, to be
:45:11. > :45:13.able to maintain a sense of calm and being present. Now has to look like
:45:14. > :45:17.I know what I'm doing. Now has to look like I'm in control. The thing
:45:18. > :45:21.I love the most is just that kind of adrenaline. Like, I love the fact
:45:22. > :45:25.that when I walk into the velodrome, I realise that this is happening and
:45:26. > :45:30.just that kind of emotional feeling that I get and I just know that I'm
:45:31. > :45:35.so ready for that moment. There is an essential cruelty in sport. The
:45:36. > :45:39.juc apposition of the dreams, the sack -- juxtaposition of the dreams
:45:40. > :45:45.and the sacrifices and the top of a podium reserved for just one.
:45:46. > :45:49.There's a cruelty too, that after an epic journey measured in years,
:45:50. > :45:53.success and failure are measured in fractions. 1.8 seconds is how long
:45:54. > :45:58.it takes to do one dive. So all six of my dives are over faster than
:45:59. > :46:01.Usain Bolt's race. It's not just starting at the bottom and then
:46:02. > :46:06.suddenly finding yourself at the top of the podium. It takes so many set
:46:07. > :46:09.backs and injuries and moments where you question whether you even want
:46:10. > :46:13.to continue doing your sport to actually get you to that point and
:46:14. > :46:17.that's what makes it so much sweeter when you actually do achieve it.
:46:18. > :46:23.Ultimately, it's how we deal with the set backs and the challenges.
:46:24. > :46:32.How we deal with the consequences of losing and winning that make us who
:46:33. > :46:35.we are. Matthew Said reporting there who
:46:36. > :46:40.represented Great Britain in table tennis in 1992 in Barcelona and the
:46:41. > :46:44.2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Perfectly setting up more live sport
:46:45. > :46:48.for you. It's been a super day for Paul Drinkhall. These are live
:46:49. > :46:57.pictures, becoming only the third Briton to reach the last 16 in the
:46:58. > :47:06.Olympic table tennis. 26 years old from Middlesbrough. 4-2 to match
:47:07. > :47:09.Desmond Dennis in 1992 and Carl Preen. He's booked a place against
:47:10. > :47:18.that man, Vladamir Samsonov, of bell arules. We have live swimming coming
:47:19. > :47:23.up but first let's bring you to commentary from Don Parker.
:47:24. > :47:28.Going around the top there. Drinkhall was the senior member of
:47:29. > :47:31.the Great Britain team who earlier in the year at the team
:47:32. > :47:37.championships in malailsia, won a bronze medal. First time for over --
:47:38. > :47:43.Malaysia, won a bronze medal. First time for over 20 years that they got
:47:44. > :47:45.there and it was a fine performance. Drinkhall contributing significantly
:47:46. > :47:56.along with Liam Pitchford and Sam Walker.
:47:57. > :47:59.Drinkhall was an outstanding junior. Won the European cadet
:48:00. > :48:07.championships, the under 14 and under 18 age groups. Samsonov just
:48:08. > :48:23.winning three consecutive points. So consistent is Samsonov. Once he
:48:24. > :48:27.forces his opponent away from the table, doesn't make many mistakes.
:48:28. > :48:37.Going to put him under pressure there. Just mistiming the backhand
:48:38. > :48:57.top spin. Edge ball! A little bit of good
:48:58. > :49:02.fortune for Britain's Paul Drinkhall. Halfway stage of this
:49:03. > :49:07.first game. It's five points each. You can see there how the ball went
:49:08. > :49:11.upwards. That demonstrates that it has, in fact, caught the edge of the
:49:12. > :49:18.table rather than the side of the table. Did all of the hard work
:49:19. > :49:22.there did Paul Drinkhall. He played the excellent backhand down the line
:49:23. > :49:26.and set up the forehand top spin, just slightly mistimed it. Tactics
:49:27. > :49:35.were good. Unfortunately, the execution not quite as good. So
:49:36. > :49:39.Samsonov now having been 4-0 down took a 6-5 lead but now six points
:49:40. > :49:46.each. Good backhand top spin from Drinkhall. Brushed up the top of the
:49:47. > :49:51.ball. Excessive top spin. And again, the players taking the opportunity
:49:52. > :50:01.both of them to towel down as they can every six points.
:50:02. > :50:07.That was a great backhand block from Samsonov. Good top spin from Paul
:50:08. > :50:10.Drinkhall. Vladamir Samsonov was equal to it with the backhand. Not
:50:11. > :50:14.only did he block, but he put a little bit of elbow and wrist into
:50:15. > :50:25.the shots so it came back with speed. Oh, that's a great flick.
:50:26. > :50:30.Samsonov renowned for his delicate touch over the table. Paul Drinkhall
:50:31. > :50:31.there, a well placed four hand flick right in the corner of the table.
:50:32. > :50:48.Perfect placement. Good top spins from Samsonov.
:50:49. > :50:53.Drinkhall putting Samsonov under pressure, but Samsonov was equal to
:50:54. > :50:58.it. He managed to spin the ball back each time. And the player from
:50:59. > :51:13.Belarus now with a one-point lead. Top spin to top spin rally and it
:51:14. > :51:22.was Britain's Paul Drinkhall who came out on top. Eight points each.
:51:23. > :51:33.Samsonov with his two serves to come. Born in Minsk in Belarus.
:51:34. > :51:35.Currently lives in Grenada in Spain. Obviously likes the sun, wife and
:51:36. > :51:54.two boys. Two game points for Vladamir
:51:55. > :52:00.Samsonov. Paul Drinkhall just taking his time. He has his two serves to
:52:01. > :52:05.come. Still in with a good chance. But of course, he has to take both
:52:06. > :52:23.points with his serves. First one coming up.
:52:24. > :52:32.Oh uc well done Paul Drinkhall. A great rally. Samsonov spinning the
:52:33. > :52:36.ball back from away from the table. Drinkhall waited for the opportunity
:52:37. > :52:42.and then he brought one down the line. Good tactics. That's one out
:52:43. > :52:45.of one. Can he take the second point with the serve to take this game to
:52:46. > :52:58.ten points each? Taking his time. The serve drifted
:52:59. > :53:00.long. Samsonov is in with the forehand top spin. And Vladamir
:53:01. > :53:14.Samsonov takes the first time 11-9. See here, the serve just drifting
:53:15. > :53:18.long. Samsonov is able to let the ball come over the edge of the
:53:19. > :53:23.table. He can then play a stronger top spin, exactly what he does.
:53:24. > :53:28.Pumples the air with delight. -- punches the air with delight. And
:53:29. > :53:34.the players now with their coaches. They have one minute to take onboard
:53:35. > :53:37.advice. 11-9 to Vladamir Samsonov of Belarus. He wins the first game
:53:38. > :53:45.against Paul Drinkhall of Great Britain. Alan Cook in the corner
:53:46. > :53:52.there. Done a wonderful job with Team GB. The players have performed
:53:53. > :53:58.some of their best table tennis in 2016. Bronze medal at the World Teen
:53:59. > :54:02.Championships. Paul Drinkhall, Frank Pritchard and Sam Walker and Alan
:54:03. > :54:09.Cook in the corner working with them, helping them. And now here at
:54:10. > :54:13.the Olympics, Paul Drinkhall playing for a place in the quarterfinal.
:54:14. > :54:18.He's beaten two players ranked above him already. He's having a great
:54:19. > :54:21.tournament but he's lost the first game 11-9. Both players back at the
:54:22. > :54:30.table. Second game, Paul Drinkhall of Team
:54:31. > :54:47.GB to serve. Great rally. Both players playing on
:54:48. > :54:58.the diaganol. Drinkhall playing the forehand from the backhand side.
:54:59. > :55:04.A little bit of good fortune there for Drinkhall. The ball catches the
:55:05. > :55:10.top of it and trickles over very quick to raise his arm. Acknowledges
:55:11. > :55:14.his good fortune. And one thing is for sure - Vladamir Samsonov won't
:55:15. > :55:19.let it scup set him. He'll just be -- upset him. He'll be folk upsed on
:55:20. > :55:25.this. That's a God backhand down the line. Drink was moving down there to
:55:26. > :55:28.play a forehand. Just has to readjust. But he just can't quite
:55:29. > :55:42.get across. Drink playing with good power there.
:55:43. > :55:45.Putting Samsonov under pressure. Again, it's Drinkhall who makes the
:55:46. > :55:53.better start. He led 4-0 in the first game. He leads 3-1 in the
:55:54. > :55:58.second game. Can he keep it going? That is a wonderful return of
:55:59. > :56:02.service. Long fast push out wide to Drinkhall's forehand. That was the
:56:03. > :56:15.last thing that Drinkhall was expecting. Wonderful tactics.
:56:16. > :56:24.Three points each. Two very good returns of service there from
:56:25. > :56:41.Vladamir Samsonov. Oh, what a great countertop spin
:56:42. > :56:45.from Drinkhall. He anticipated the top spin coming down the line. He's
:56:46. > :56:50.exposed himself. Samsonov goes for it. Look at that top spin. Side spin
:56:51. > :57:09.as well. The ball bending away from Vladamir Samsonov.
:57:10. > :57:13.Interesting tactics there from Samsonov. He forced Drinkhall away
:57:14. > :57:18.from the table but he didn't go for the rocket. He just played
:57:19. > :57:23.consistent top spins. Kept the initiative. Kept Paul Drinkhall away
:57:24. > :57:28.from the table. Drinkhall did really well to return the top spins. But
:57:29. > :57:35.clever tactical play from the 40-year-old from bell arules.
:57:36. > :58:00.Consistent top spins win the points for Samsonov.
:58:01. > :58:07.Time out called by Paul Drinkhall. Each player is entitled to one time
:58:08. > :58:11.out in the match. It's normally used when a player feels that his
:58:12. > :58:19.opponent has got the momentum. Samsonov has won the last three
:58:20. > :58:28.points. And of course, if Drinkhall goes 2-0 down, it's a mountain to
:58:29. > :58:35.climb against the number 7 seed. So I think that a good call by Great
:58:36. > :58:44.Britain's Paul Drinkhall. He'll be hoping to compose himself. He'll be
:58:45. > :58:55.hoping that the break in play takes the momentum away from Vladamir
:58:56. > :59:00.Samsonov. Alan Cook played in the first ever Olympic Games when table
:59:01. > :59:05.tennis made its debut in Seoul in 1988. Had a good tournament in those
:59:06. > :59:10.days and it was eight groups of eight. The top two going through.
:59:11. > :59:17.Alan Cook finished third in the group. Otherwise, he would have
:59:18. > :59:21.qualified for the last 16 when it became the knock-out stage. Here,
:59:22. > :59:24.it's been knock-out from the word "go". You lose your first game and
:59:25. > :59:47.you're out of the tournament. So good with the control, Vladamir
:59:48. > :59:54.Samsonov. Glides around the table. Very God hand. Very good feeling. --
:59:55. > :59:57.very good hand. Very good feeling. He's able to delicately touch the
:59:58. > :00:01.ball over the net which requires very fine touch skills. And then
:00:02. > :00:06.he's able to play with an enormous amount of power. Just overhits that
:00:07. > :00:10.forehand top spin down the line. Always more difficult to go down the
:00:11. > :00:13.line than it is to go across the table. The target is that little bit
:00:14. > :00:27.shorter. Drinkhall now with his two serves to
:00:28. > :00:45.come. Fishing a little bit away from the
:00:46. > :00:49.table, scrambling the ball back. Samsonov took the initiative, forced
:00:50. > :00:53.Drinkhall away from the table. Drinkhall doing everything he
:00:54. > :01:10.possibly can to get back into the rally, but he's now three points
:01:11. > :01:13.adrift. What a backhand down the line. This really is throwing
:01:14. > :01:18.caution to the wind. Just watch the backhand now. Samsonov didn't even
:01:19. > :01:21.attempt to go for the ball. He couldn't believe the speed at which
:01:22. > :01:41.that rocketed down the line. Samsonov edging his way towards 11
:01:42. > :01:43.points. Paul Drinkhall needs this point.
:01:44. > :01:50.And he was unlucky there. It was a good return of serve. A long, fast
:01:51. > :01:55.push into Samsonov's backhand. He got him with the strong topspin but
:01:56. > :02:01.the control of the 40-year-old, Vladimir Samsonov, is quite amazing.
:02:02. > :02:10.Four game points for the 40-year-old from Belarus. This time the topspin
:02:11. > :02:13.down the line off the table. Samsonov takes the second game 11-6
:02:14. > :02:31.and now leads by two games to nil. Paul Drinkhall up against it in this
:02:32. > :02:34.one against Vladimir Samsonov. Let me remind you that Samsonov is
:02:35. > :02:39.ranked number nine in the world. The Belorussian is one of the few
:02:40. > :02:43.players who can topple the best Chinese players in the world. This
:02:44. > :02:48.match continues on the red button. If you want to continue watching
:02:49. > :02:50.that, it's on the red button. Let's go live to the big night of swimming
:02:51. > :02:56.finals. Lots to look forward to in the pool
:02:57. > :03:01.this evening. James Guy is chasing a medal but let's get into into the
:03:02. > :03:05.semifinal of the women's 200m free. Thank you, Helen. That black hat two
:03:06. > :03:11.lanes from the front of your shot there is Missy Franklin of the USA.
:03:12. > :03:17.She won four gold medals in 2012 and she's only in lane seven. Fastest
:03:18. > :03:30.qualifier, McKeon of Australia in four. Two Chinese women, including a
:03:31. > :03:37.14-year-old, in lane 6. Beauden Barrett is in lane two for
:03:38. > :03:43.Australia. Bronze medallist here. -- Bronte Campbell.
:03:44. > :03:47.These women have to be careful because the second semifinals are
:03:48. > :03:49.absolutely stacked. I wouldn't be surprised if all three medals come
:03:50. > :04:00.from the second semi. This is the first one and a good start from lane
:04:01. > :04:07.four. This afternoon it was McKeon and
:04:08. > :04:11.Bonnet. Bronte Barratt and Missy Franklin have some history here.
:04:12. > :04:17.Barrett is in the top three but it looks like McKeon, the only woman
:04:18. > :04:25.under 27 for the first 50m and very strong, beautiful, long stroke from
:04:26. > :04:29.McKeon. The gold medallist there is the world record-setter and the
:04:30. > :04:32.Aussie women's freestyle, well, originally they called it the
:04:33. > :04:38.Australian crawl when they first named it. They've dominated. Outside
:04:39. > :04:42.world record, it's a fast first 50 for them but not a world record
:04:43. > :04:44.here, Bonnet and Barrett taking the lead.
:04:45. > :04:50.This is how Charlotte Bonnet swam the heat. She was out fast to 100m
:04:51. > :04:54.and the rest of the field caught her up. This is interesting. At the top
:04:55. > :05:01.of the shot there - 4, 3, 2, all of them starting to push the pace and
:05:02. > :05:04.it looks like maybe in three at the moment, Shen of China, sixth in the
:05:05. > :05:09.World Championships and leading. It's Bronte Barratt first. No, it's
:05:10. > :05:13.Shen first, Barrett second and now the charge is going to come and it
:05:14. > :05:17.looks like it's at the top of the picture. Absolutely. It's lane
:05:18. > :05:20.three, Duo Shen, the 19-year-old from China coming strongly true.
:05:21. > :05:24.It's all the way one to five. They've dropped lane six here so
:05:25. > :05:28.Missy Franklin in seven will struggle to make the final. Shen of
:05:29. > :05:32.China looks like going very well inside the last five metres. She may
:05:33. > :05:40.win the first semifinal of the women's 200m free. She does. 1:56.0.
:05:41. > :05:44.It's quick but not that quick. McKeon second, Bonnet third and
:05:45. > :05:50.Missy Franklin eighth. I think she's going to struggle. A
:05:51. > :05:57.great swim from Shen, Andy, the 19-year-old Chinese lady. Very
:05:58. > :06:00.strong down that third 50m. There we see the start from where we're
:06:01. > :06:07.commentating here. You can see that view to the side. Coming down the
:06:08. > :06:11.first length... It was Shen. Actually it was Ai, the Chinese with
:06:12. > :06:19.the black cap on. And here in a line. Well, this was a slower of the
:06:20. > :06:23.two semifinals. The fastest through in the world in the next semifinals
:06:24. > :06:29.to very important to get a top three place, I think. Shen had a quick
:06:30. > :06:37.look over when she touched the wall. Two halves in the first semifinal.
:06:38. > :06:43.Shen, McKeon, Bonnet and Barrett all 1.56.5 and then it goes to 1:57.3. I
:06:44. > :06:48.feel like I need to properly well quom you to the fool pour -- pool
:06:49. > :06:52.for this evening's finals. Lots to look forward to tonight. James Guy
:06:53. > :06:55.going for a medal. We've got Siobhan-Marie O'Connor and Hannah
:06:56. > :07:00.Miley going in semifinals but right now we're looking at superstars from
:07:01. > :07:04.elsewhere around the globe. Missy Franklin, four gold medals in
:07:05. > :07:08.London. Her four-year cycle hasn't been brilliant, not great form this
:07:09. > :07:14.year. What's going on? She seems to have gone off the boil. In 11, 12
:07:15. > :07:18.and 13, she was the new star, if you like, she was like Katie Ledecky
:07:19. > :07:22.now. I know she had an injury. She started university. I would say to
:07:23. > :07:25.her leave school. She's had a lot of distractions in her life. She came
:07:26. > :07:29.out and sometimes - you've got to remember being at the top for a long
:07:30. > :07:32.period of time takes a lot out of you physically and mentally. She's
:07:33. > :07:37.out of sorts. I feel like she's the kind of girl who has been asked to
:07:38. > :07:40.do a lot g to a lot of functions, charities, hospitals and by all
:07:41. > :07:45.accounts she does everything. If we're talking about the old guard as
:07:46. > :07:49.it were, let's talk about Pellegrini in the next semifinal. Ledecky and
:07:50. > :07:54.Sjostrom, we've talked a lot about them, what about Pellegrini. Can she
:07:55. > :07:58.get up amongst the medals? The great thing for Pellegrini is she's been
:07:59. > :08:01.at the top of her game for so long. It's her world record. She got a
:08:02. > :08:06.silver at the World Championships last year. She's Olympic Champion
:08:07. > :08:11.from 2008. She is one to watch, definitely. I'm so excited about
:08:12. > :08:18.Katie Ledecky, as I just think we saw her in the 4 x 100m freestyle on
:08:19. > :08:23.the first day where she did a fantastic 100m split. She broke the
:08:24. > :08:27.world record in the 400m. Personally, I think Katie is the
:08:28. > :08:33.threat here but Pellegrini wants to be on the podium so she'll be
:08:34. > :08:37.fighting for a place. But this isn't Katie's favourite event is it, Katie
:08:38. > :08:41.Ledecky, but she's aiming to make history. Four gold medals, yeah!
:08:42. > :08:46.Least favourite. I think she'll enjoy this a bit more. I think you
:08:47. > :08:50.do when it's not your main event, not as much pressure. No-one expects
:08:51. > :08:56.her to get the gold as much as they do in the 400m and 800m so the
:08:57. > :09:01.pressure's off her a little bit and I think she uses it as a bit of fun.
:09:02. > :09:04.I think she wants the four gold medals. She's obviously got one
:09:05. > :09:09.silver and one gold. She'll want to add to that. This event is the
:09:10. > :09:12.challenge for her. Because the four in the bag, smashed the world
:09:13. > :09:16.record, she's going to win the 800m freestyle. It's in the bag. This is
:09:17. > :09:21.the real challenge and champions like chalings. It's worth pointing
:09:22. > :09:25.out that -- challenges. It's worth pointing out that this really feels
:09:26. > :09:29.like a special place at the moment. We're seeing the who's who of the
:09:30. > :09:33.women out there. We're surrounded by the families of champions. The
:09:34. > :09:37.Phelps family are down here. We're going to lose Beccy in a minute and
:09:38. > :09:42.Chad Le Clos over there. You caught up with the Phelps clan. How are
:09:43. > :09:47.they feeling? They're loving it. I jokingly said, "Will this be
:09:48. > :09:52.Michael's last experience?" And I said in 2020 he'll be 38 and they're
:09:53. > :09:58.like, "Oh, my God, he's got more time!" Boomer won't remember it but
:09:59. > :10:01.you're recording it for playback. There's hundreds of photographers
:10:02. > :10:06.lining up to catch a glimpse of the Phelps clan. Now it's time for the
:10:07. > :10:09.second semifinal. Andy and Adrian, over to you.
:10:10. > :10:15.Well, the second semifinal is absolutely stacked, Helen. The
:10:16. > :10:18.fastest qualifier is Katie Ledecky of the USA but we've got the world
:10:19. > :10:21.record-holder in Federica Pellegrini. Can the great Ledecky
:10:22. > :10:28.win? World Champion in four. Sarah Sjostrom, fastest in the world this
:10:29. > :10:30.year. But here is Federica Pellegrini, the Olympic Champion
:10:31. > :10:36.from 2008, the world record-holder. She set the world record six times
:10:37. > :10:41.in this event. 1:52.98 is the world record. It's a phenomenal win, isn't
:10:42. > :10:46.it? Sarah Sjostrom walking out here, one of two swimmers who already have
:10:47. > :10:51.a gold medal at these Olympics and the pressure therefore is off.
:10:52. > :10:56.Sjostrom a brilliant sprinter. And Katie Ledecky, well, might not be
:10:57. > :11:02.her main event, the one we know her for, but she swam a phenomenal 100m
:11:03. > :11:09.freestyle, sub-53 in the American relay. I think she'll be strong in
:11:10. > :11:13.the 200m. What a line-up. Three world record-holders, the 200m
:11:14. > :11:22.freestyle world record-holder, this event, there in shot, Pellegrini.
:11:23. > :11:24.There's the 400m, 800m and 1,500m world record-holder, Katie Ledecky
:11:25. > :11:29.and in five, Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. There she is. The world
:11:30. > :11:34.record-holder on the 1,500m fly. What a line-up. Tomorrow's final is
:11:35. > :11:37.going to be just fireworks. A slightly slower first semifinal
:11:38. > :11:42.tonight so this could be very interesting.
:11:43. > :11:48.Absolutely. We could see five of these swimmers get through. There is
:11:49. > :11:53.Pellegrini. Sorry, Heemskerk. She's the one -
:11:54. > :11:57.it's easy when they turn to the shied because the name is on the
:11:58. > :12:00.hat. She's not slow. She's in lane eight but she's the European silver
:12:01. > :12:06.medallist. Look out. Take your marks...
:12:07. > :12:12.Semifinal number two, the faster very much of the two semifinals and,
:12:13. > :12:15.in the centre lanes, three, four, five and six, Pellegrini, Ledecky,
:12:16. > :12:20.Sjostrom and Coleman. Well, the two Swedes next to each other with the
:12:21. > :12:24.yellow caps on and Coleman having a good dive and the first couple of
:12:25. > :12:28.strokes out of the surface and you can't split the swimmers right now.
:12:29. > :12:34.Ledecky and Sjostrom contributed last night to such a significant
:12:35. > :12:37.final session for me. Three swimmers broke the world records in their
:12:38. > :12:45.events. A dramatic night of swimming. To come back and battle it
:12:46. > :12:55.out for the 200m. Look at Coleman nearest to us, very steady, Andy.
:12:56. > :13:01.Look at Ledecky in the centre. She's hammering down the first 100m. She's
:13:02. > :13:06.not a sprinter. World record-holder on the 400m, 800m and 1,500m
:13:07. > :13:11.freestyle. She's worked really hard. I don't think Sjostrom worked quite
:13:12. > :13:15.as hard. She looks good now in the yellow hat in the leading group.
:13:16. > :13:20.Pellegrini renowned - back cap, three from the top - renowned for
:13:21. > :13:27.coming back strongly on the second 100m. So the two black caps, keep an
:13:28. > :13:31.eye on her. It's the three we thought who should battle it out for
:13:32. > :13:36.the medals tomorrow. A lot quicker than the first semifinal.
:13:37. > :13:41.This is absolutely fascinating. Sarah Sjostrom breathing away from
:13:42. > :13:48.Katie Ledecky in the black hat. And Sjostrom is trying to go away. This
:13:49. > :13:53.is interesting. They don't need to go this fast. I think they're just
:13:54. > :13:56.testing each other and Ledecky is hammering, absolutely hammering down
:13:57. > :14:03.the last 50m. I think Sjostrom will get the touch. She does. Very close
:14:04. > :14:06.indeed. And look at that - 1:54 much.6 wins it and Sjostrom and
:14:07. > :14:11.Ledecky have had a private battle. Look. She's looking at the clock
:14:12. > :14:16.going, "I think so..." I agree. That was significant. Ledecky didn't want
:14:17. > :14:19.to lose that. Sjostrom a lot stronger in the last ten metres than
:14:20. > :14:23.Ledecky. Really interesting, you know. Sjostrom didn't swim the 200m
:14:24. > :14:28.free at the World Championships last year. She did the Swedish relay. Led
:14:29. > :14:40.off and did a faster time than Ledecky's individual win. And you're
:14:41. > :14:44.right, private battles between these two not known necessarily for the
:14:45. > :14:48.200m free. Ledecky going in quicker than Sjostrom but the power and the
:14:49. > :14:54.strength came from Sjostrom, didn't it, at the end? Well, it certainly
:14:55. > :14:57.did. I'm not a professional face-reader but that smile, that
:14:58. > :15:04.cheeky smile that sort of said, "I did it! I was head to head and I won
:15:05. > :15:10.that battle," is one up to Sjostrom. Only matters to make the final. And
:15:11. > :15:18.a nice glide-in. Very nice. That's a nice tattoo, isn't it? On the right
:15:19. > :15:22.forearm. I think Coleman qualified as well in
:15:23. > :15:25.fifth place. We'll see that shortly. The two swids having a great
:15:26. > :15:31.semifinal. So the second semifinal was quick.
:15:32. > :15:33.Swedes having a great semifinal. So the second semifinal was quick.
:15:34. > :15:45.Pellegrini will certainly be in the final tomorrow night. The first four
:15:46. > :15:54.qualify. Very clear definition. The first
:15:55. > :16:01.four and then there's a split. A second gap between fourth and
:16:02. > :16:04.fifth. So Sjostrom fastest, Ledecky second, Pellegrini, all from the
:16:05. > :16:09.final heat. What a final that's going to be tomorrow night. Granted,
:16:10. > :16:11.it's only a semifinal but it's unusual for Katie Ledecky to touch
:16:12. > :16:16.the wall second. What effect will that have on her head? She's never
:16:17. > :16:20.lost a race at a major meet. She won't have liked that. It was quite
:16:21. > :16:24.strange that over the last 25m that Sarah swam away from her. You would
:16:25. > :16:27.think Katie would have the back end and the endurance and, um, yeah, I
:16:28. > :16:31.think that was a little bit of a shock to us all. She could be
:16:32. > :16:37.playing games there. It's kind of fascinating in a sense that you've
:16:38. > :16:40.got Pellegrini as the pure 200m freestyler, world record--holder.
:16:41. > :16:44.Sjostrom comes from butterfly and she's got a turn of speed at the end
:16:45. > :16:49.and I think she played a little bit. We both thought - I thought that
:16:50. > :16:52.Ledecky would bring her back in because Ledecky is an absolute
:16:53. > :16:56.animal. She's got so much back end. It's a completely different race.
:16:57. > :16:59.That's a fascinating one from tomorrow night. And a cheeky smile
:17:00. > :17:02.from Sarah Sjostrom said game on. Right, Jason?
:17:03. > :17:07.Helen, thank you very much indeed. We'll be back with you shortly.
:17:08. > :17:14.Let's get up to date with the table tennis. Paul Drinkhall is in his
:17:15. > :17:17.last-16 match against Vladimir Samsonov from Belarus, the world
:17:18. > :17:21.number nine in complete control of this match. He's three games up.
:17:22. > :17:25.That's available on the red button. Press red now if you want to
:17:26. > :17:33.continue with the live table tennis. And, as for the tennis, this
:17:34. > :17:37.happened a short time ago. This is Novak Djokovic, representing Serbia,
:17:38. > :17:40.he was beatin last night by Juan Martin del Potro in the men's
:17:41. > :17:47.singles and he's out of the men's doubles. They've lost to Brazil.
:17:48. > :17:56.This is what's happening on Centre Court right now. Nishikori is a set
:17:57. > :18:09.up, 2-1 up in the second set, and looking good. And that fellow looks
:18:10. > :18:12.really tired, doesn't he? If you want that, that's available online.
:18:13. > :18:17.Let's go back to Helen in the pool. Right, James Guy is World Champion
:18:18. > :18:26.in the 200m freestyle. Tonight he's chasing a medal in that very event.
:18:27. > :18:29.Out of the pool, he likes to do something not a swimmers get stuck
:18:30. > :18:43.into. Steve Perry has been finding out more.
:18:44. > :18:51.It's certainly unusual for Olympic athletes, innit, to be engaged in
:18:52. > :18:55.fishing? I've been fishing for years and I absolutely love it, obsessed.
:18:56. > :19:00.It's a great way to shut down and have something completely different.
:19:01. > :19:05.It's not all about pace. It's about what bait you use, what float you
:19:06. > :19:14.use. It's a good way to calm down, relax and just enjoy myself.
:19:15. > :19:20.This is going to be really close. James Guy in the centre! The gold
:19:21. > :19:25.medal goes to James Guy. World Champion, 200m freestyle! Well done,
:19:26. > :19:29.Sir! The 200m free is just to go out and have fun. I did that and it paid
:19:30. > :19:33.off. To get another medal there was pretty special.
:19:34. > :19:37.Success for me, really, would be to go in, get everything and get a PB.
:19:38. > :19:42.That would be medal territory. It would be nice to get a medal
:19:43. > :19:46.obviously, yeah. To do Team GB proud and obviously my family as well,
:19:47. > :19:51.they've done so much for me, it would be nice to repay that to them.
:19:52. > :19:56.It's a big dogfight at the finish and who can get their hand on the
:19:57. > :20:00.wall first. I'll try my best. He trains in the south but he's a
:20:01. > :20:15.proud northerner. We're all behind you, James! Good luck. Go do your
:20:16. > :20:27.thing. Andrew, Adrian. Take it away.
:20:28. > :20:31.Controversial character, Sun Yang, almost setting himself up as the
:20:32. > :20:35.arch villain in world swimming. But I have to say the winner could come
:20:36. > :20:40.from absolutely anywhere. James Guy of Great Britain will be closest to
:20:41. > :20:51.us, the World Champion on this, the 200m freestyle. He's in eight. Right
:20:52. > :20:55.at the top will be Chad Le Clos. Ade, what's going to happen? They're
:20:56. > :20:59.going to swim four lengths very quickly. Three people get medals.
:21:00. > :21:03.You know what? I think James Guy... I'm not sure. Outside... He's got to
:21:04. > :21:09.get out there. He's got to be amongst it. I'd like to see 1 and 8
:21:10. > :21:13.go out quicker. Chad will do in lane 1. I want James Guy amongst it
:21:14. > :21:20.early. I don't want him to fight back on the last 100m. We saw on the
:21:21. > :21:24.piece of film we just saw, he came back strongly against Sun Yang but
:21:25. > :21:27.he's got to swim it a bit differently from lane eight down
:21:28. > :21:31.nearest to us. With a bit of luck, they'll be
:21:32. > :21:35.watching each other on the inside and the middle and they won't see
:21:36. > :21:39.James Guy. There's the world record-holder in six, Biederman, the
:21:40. > :21:52.red hat of James Guy, the World Champion. Big breath.
:21:53. > :21:56.The time of the men's 200m freestyle at the Olympic Games in Rio de
:21:57. > :22:00.Janeiro and a fantastic start on the right-hand side of your shot. Look
:22:01. > :22:05.at that! He's a body length up after about 15m. Chad's going for it, I
:22:06. > :22:08.would say. Chad now a body length ahead. There's only way he's going
:22:09. > :22:11.to swim this race. He's going to go, try and hold it and hang in there
:22:12. > :23:30.and it's whether the rest of them can catch him. James Guy is still
:23:31. > :23:37.going well but the rest of the field is overtaking him. Still going well
:23:38. > :23:42.is Chad Le Clos. Back Yang gets the gold. The silver, a brilliant brave
:23:43. > :23:46.silver medal for Chad Le Clos of South Africa. Goodness me, Co in, or
:23:47. > :23:51.Dwyer the bronze and James Guy just touched out in fourth position. Oh,
:23:52. > :24:01.no! But, what, 17, 16 hundredths of a second. Oh, so close to a bronze.
:24:02. > :24:11.What an exciting race. Chad Le Clos hanging in there for 1:45.20. I
:24:12. > :24:14.thought the whole thing would fall off then. I thought his arms would
:24:15. > :24:19.point to the bottom and he wouldn't finish the race. What guts he had.
:24:20. > :24:24.Man, what a great swim! You've got to say, Ade, that the pacing of Sun
:24:25. > :24:28.Yang - he's not anyone's favourite in the pool but the pacing was
:24:29. > :24:32.perfect. It really was. If you're not careful, he'll start getting
:24:33. > :24:37.boos, if he keeps doing that. Well, he is. They're all coming from the
:24:38. > :24:40.competitors' stand by the way. Wow, Chad Le Clos, 15m, a full body
:24:41. > :24:44.length. I've never seen that. His start must have been. Let's see if
:24:45. > :24:49.we can see his start. He goes underwater. Well, he's very... It's
:24:50. > :24:54.a shame we didn't see the whole thing, and we see Michael Phelps do
:24:55. > :25:01.this. The fly guys, the fly boys, like you, Andy, brilliant. Burt
:25:02. > :25:05.there and his mum. Well, they've had some troubles, some tough stuff,
:25:06. > :25:09.both of them having gone through cancer, getting through cancer, and
:25:10. > :25:14.Chad, the glory swim. What a brave silver medal and Conor Dwyer, my
:25:15. > :25:19.man, got a medal. I thought he might win it at one point.
:25:20. > :25:28.Remember James Bond, the great big guy? What was his name? Yes! Yes!
:25:29. > :25:33.I'm not saying it. Was it Jaws? I want to say... I'm not sure about
:25:34. > :25:38.the name but... Well, that went well! He's a better swimmer, that's
:25:39. > :25:43.for certain. Throwing a swimming cap is not the same as throwing a ball.
:25:44. > :25:50.He's going to get soaked. Oh, water bomb.
:25:51. > :25:55.Be careful calling him names. Mack Horton called him a dope cheat in
:25:56. > :25:58.his press conference and got about two million responses on the Chinese
:25:59. > :26:02.version of Twitter. He did and they said why call him a drug cheat and
:26:03. > :26:06.he said, "Well, because he took banned drugs." Well, what a final
:26:07. > :26:11.that was, what a final. Sun Yang winning gold in the men's 200m
:26:12. > :26:18.freestyle comfortably in the end. Chad Le Clos, a brilliant, brave
:26:19. > :26:23.swim for silver, the bronze to Dwyer and James Guy fourth by 0.16. Oh!
:26:24. > :26:29.James, you threw everything at that Yeah, I did. I tried to kind of
:26:30. > :26:32.control the semifinal a bit yesterday and unluckily I came
:26:33. > :26:37.fourth, which is devastating. I can hear in your voice that you're
:26:38. > :26:40.frustrated. I don't know if you're aware but Chad went off like a
:26:41. > :26:45.rocket. He was a length up after the first length. Chad is a good guy. He
:26:46. > :26:49.goes out fast and uses his strength in his underwater phases. I knew if
:26:50. > :26:52.I had a chance to swim back fast, I did, and I just missed out. It was a
:26:53. > :26:55.matter of everybody swimming their own race. Different people swam a I
:26:56. > :27:02.have different way in there. Of course. I realised at the start of
:27:03. > :27:06.the meet that the worlds are here and the Olympics are here. In the
:27:07. > :27:08.first few days, I let the swimming control me and then I was
:27:09. > :27:11.controlling the swimming. I'm getting into the meet now and
:27:12. > :27:15.hopefully I'll do well on the last day with the boys. You're still only
:27:16. > :27:21.20. There's at least another am couple of Olympics games in you.
:27:22. > :27:27.Yeah, of course. This hasn't been perfectly right. I'm 20, I'm
:27:28. > :27:31.enjoying it, I've come fourth. If someone had said four years ago that
:27:32. > :27:35.I'd make two Olympics finals, I'd have took it. You've got the
:27:36. > :27:39.fantastic relay at the end of the week. Yeah, got one tomorrow night
:27:40. > :27:43.with the boys and hoping to dominate like last year. AutoI'll give it
:27:44. > :27:47.everything I've got for Team GB at home and our family as well. Get
:27:48. > :27:51.some rest. We'll see you again soon. Thank you, Sharon.
:27:52. > :27:55.It's almost the worst position to be in, coming fourth, because at one
:27:56. > :27:59.point you thought he was going to sneak it. I think we've seen Chad go
:28:00. > :28:02.out hard and then die off, especially in the last 50m and
:28:03. > :28:05.that's where James is really strong. I thought he would overtake Chad
:28:06. > :28:10.there. I feel really disappointed for James but, having said, that it
:28:11. > :28:13.was a good time, only 0.3 off his personal best and I think he'd be
:28:14. > :28:17.really pleased on reflection saying, "You know what? I got back down to
:28:18. > :28:21.where the time wants to be." It's just a shame because obviously a
:28:22. > :28:26.certain person in that field... He would have been on the podium if
:28:27. > :28:29.that wasn't the case. That's the more devastating thing is someone
:28:30. > :28:32.shouldn't have been there. You're talking about Sun Yang. Just to
:28:33. > :28:36.point out, if you haven't been following it all week, Sun Yang has
:28:37. > :28:40.served a secret drugs ban. He served it and it was only announced
:28:41. > :28:44.afterwards. So not everybody's favourite person. No. I think
:28:45. > :28:47.everybody athlete wants a clean sport and we're all wanting lifetime
:28:48. > :28:52.bans to stop people from cheating. Anyway, but I think it was a
:28:53. > :28:55.fantastic race. I think he did really, really well. He looked more
:28:56. > :28:59.like himself, more colour back in his face and that looks good for the
:29:00. > :29:04.relace coming up later in the week. Let's talk about the women's 100m
:29:05. > :29:10.backstroke final. We have to talk about a certain lady in there,
:29:11. > :29:13.Katinka Hosszu. She's had a busy week. Look at what she's in this
:29:14. > :29:17.week because for a lot of people, this is a heck of a schedule, isn't
:29:18. > :29:27.it? She is: that's if she reaches all of
:29:28. > :29:32.those finals but swimming at this level in any race is demanding and
:29:33. > :29:37.they're demanding races. I hope she swims hard, gets tonight's medal and
:29:38. > :29:43.then she'll be tired for Siobhan's race tomorrow night. I'd love
:29:44. > :29:51.Siobhan to get that medal. Your wash wish may come true. -- wish may come
:29:52. > :29:53.true. I'm sure Andy and Adrian wouldn't possibly join her on that
:29:54. > :29:57.opinion! Let's move on. You join us as the
:29:58. > :30:01.squirmers are about to enter the water for the final of the women's
:30:02. > :30:06.100m backstrock. There is Katinka Hosszu. What an extraordinary world
:30:07. > :30:08.record that was. Ke. There is Katinka Hosszu. What an
:30:09. > :30:13.extraordinary world record that was. I have to say the swimmers who could
:30:14. > :30:20.win this are all over the place. In lane one, World Champion Emily
:30:21. > :30:27.Seebohm. Kath leek Bark surprise qualifier in four, Hosszu in five
:30:28. > :30:34.and -- Kathleen Baker, surprise qualifier in four and Hosszu in
:30:35. > :30:38.five. The final of the 100m backstroke for women.
:30:39. > :30:42.It's two lengths' backstroke and the winner could come from absolutely
:30:43. > :30:47.anywhere. A decent start at the bottom from Smoliga of the USA.
:30:48. > :30:53.That's interesting. Andy, I think Hosszu and Baker will have the race
:30:54. > :30:58.between them. Hosszu in five, slow start. Baker in four, the
:30:59. > :31:01.19-year-old, looking strong. I think anyone around 58.5 will win it, you
:31:02. > :31:07.know. Lane one, Seebohm going strong. Seebohm turning first. 0.05
:31:08. > :31:14.seconds ahead of Baker. Well, Seebohm does not want to let this
:31:15. > :31:19.go, does she? By far the fastest swimmer at the top, Seebohm but the
:31:20. > :31:24.start and turn of Kathleen Baker were brilliant. Coming through in
:31:25. > :31:29.lane five is Hosszu. The white hat of Hosszu in five. Baker in four.
:31:30. > :31:33.Also in seven is Nielsen. This will be a blanket. Coming through in
:31:34. > :31:39.three is Fu. Hosszu has got it, I think! She does! Oh, my good.
:31:40. > :31:43.Katinka Hosszu inside the last 15m just ripped it, 58:4. The time
:31:44. > :31:47.relatively slow compared to what we thought but the gold medal in the
:31:48. > :31:51.100m free stroke added to the brilliant world record on the 400m
:31:52. > :31:57.individual medley, Katinka Hosszu. Adrian, can you believe that? We saw
:31:58. > :32:01.her schedule, the iron lady of swimming! Sorry about that slim.
:32:02. > :32:05.Hosszu, yeah, very strong in the last five metres. Very, very
:32:06. > :32:15.impressive with a schedule she's got. Joint third place, equal third
:32:16. > :32:20.we can see there with Kylie Masse and Yuanhui Fu of China. The rest of
:32:21. > :32:23.the swimmers not getting down beyond 58.75.
:32:24. > :32:28.I can tell you that all the swimmers are still in the pool. Apart from
:32:29. > :32:31.Emily Seebohm, up in lane one, she's got out already and she's pretty
:32:32. > :32:36.much walking out of the side of the pool. What a shocking Olympics she's
:32:37. > :32:42.had. It's not a good race for her. She was world champ and so
:32:43. > :32:46.disappointed in 2012 losing out to Missy Franklin. She qualified
:32:47. > :32:51.fastest and in the semifinal did the fastest race in 2012 and then came
:32:52. > :32:59.second. Got silver. I think Seebohm was seventh in this race. She'll be
:33:00. > :33:03.very disappointed. 59.1 well off the pace. She was first to the 50m. She
:33:04. > :33:07.committed to it. Some of the swimmers in the outside lanes feel
:33:08. > :33:11.their only way to do it is to blast out. I don't know, caution to the
:33:12. > :33:18.wind and all that sort of stuff and maybe... I don't know... The
:33:19. > :33:23.rationality goes and your emotions cannot control you. You have to be
:33:24. > :33:29.cold, calm and calculating. She is. Well, remind me never to bet on
:33:30. > :33:34.swimming. Look at that. Hosszu wins gold on the 100m backstroke.
:33:35. > :33:37.Kathleen Baker from the USA wins silver and Masse from Canada, the
:33:38. > :33:43.bronze, tied with Fu, quite extraordinary.
:33:44. > :33:48.Yeah. #7 well, unfortunately for Siobhan Marie O'Connor and tomorrow
:33:49. > :33:54.night's 200m IM, Katinka Hosszu does not look tired. She looks like she's
:33:55. > :33:59.flirg. I know, God damn it! She's amazing. She's a metronome. She
:34:00. > :34:03.doesn't have any speed but what she's got - she just doesn't slow
:34:04. > :34:07.down. She almost accelerated in the last 25m. She's not a sprinter. How
:34:08. > :34:11.is she that good in so many events? I don't know. If I knew, I'd be
:34:12. > :34:16.making a comeback! I don't know. It's one of those things. It's a
:34:17. > :34:20.combination that she races so much and just, obviously, her and her
:34:21. > :34:24.husband - slash coach have got a very kind of unique relationship.
:34:25. > :34:28.You can see him - he just goes crazy when she races. He is exhausting
:34:29. > :34:33.that watch, that man. Keep an eye out for him. He's not hard to miss.
:34:34. > :34:36.He's got a ponytail and goes bananas whenever she's in the water. James
:34:37. > :34:40.Guy has been in the pool but we've got two more Brits to come and two
:34:41. > :34:47.of the biggest names in swimming but that's after we find out how Paul
:34:48. > :34:50.Drinkhall is getting on. Back to Helen shortly but let's find
:34:51. > :34:53.out what's happening between Paul Drinkhall and Vladimir Samsonov of
:34:54. > :34:57.Belarus. The world number nine, Samsonov won the first three games
:34:58. > :35:05.in this best-of-seven contest remember. But Drinkhall, remarkably,
:35:06. > :35:10.saved seven match points. He took the fourth game 3-1 and that
:35:11. > :35:17.match continues on the red button. You can join it live now if you want
:35:18. > :35:32.and let's hope that Paul Drinkhall can stay in this. So that's live for
:35:33. > :35:37.you on the red button. Back to Helen.
:35:38. > :35:41.Next up in the men's 100m backstroke. We've had pretty quick
:35:42. > :35:45.times this evening. Looking down the start list, particularly at the
:35:46. > :35:50.Americans, this could be really, really fast. Is the world record
:35:51. > :36:02.going to go? I think they'll get close. Under 52 - only one person
:36:03. > :36:07.has ever been under 52 and that's the world record but Plummer and
:36:08. > :36:12.Lacourt have come close as well as Murphy. They came close to smashing
:36:13. > :36:16.the world record before but when you add the occasion, what effect does
:36:17. > :36:20.this stage have? It gives you the extra 1% that all athletes talk
:36:21. > :36:23.about. I spoke about it with Hannah's race in the individual
:36:24. > :36:26.medley. Sometimes you just need the 1% and you can find it from
:36:27. > :36:30.somewhere, just the crowd or seeing your team-mate next to you or seeing
:36:31. > :36:33.your mum and dad waving you on, which you can do here. It's that
:36:34. > :36:36.little 1% and I think for these guys, they're going to push at east
:36:37. > :36:41.och and they're against the best in the world. They're all hungry for
:36:42. > :36:48.the gold medal! Right, Andrew, Adrian, take us through this one.
:36:49. > :36:52.Thank you, Helen. You join us with three swimmers to be presented and
:36:53. > :36:57.that was, well, for me, the favourite, Mitch Larkin of
:36:58. > :37:01.Australia. And here, well, the two Americans now coming out, David
:37:02. > :37:07.Plummer and Ryan Murphy, the fastest two. Unfortunately, we'd love to
:37:08. > :37:11.have shown you Camille Lacourt of France in lane six. Three, four,
:37:12. > :37:17.five and six are difficult to choose but maybe this guy, Ryan Murphy.
:37:18. > :37:21.Well, both Americans - this is their first Olympic Games and America have
:37:22. > :37:27.won this event since 1996 and had a one-two at the last Olympics. It's
:37:28. > :37:31.on their shoulders and Plummer is very strong. He's 30 years of age,
:37:32. > :37:39.his first Olympics, father of two, he's a swim coach and he's in here.
:37:40. > :37:45.The USA has a fantastic tradition here. Can the Australians be
:37:46. > :37:49.spoilers? His girlfriend just came seventh, that was Emily Seebohm.
:37:50. > :37:55.They were meant to go gold and gold. What will happen here? The USA have
:37:56. > :37:59.won the last five Olympics golds in this event. Is that streak? Danger?
:38:00. > :38:04.I don't think it is. I think they're likely to do it. Mitch didn't look
:38:05. > :38:08.so good in the semis. Also you mentioned Emily is his partner. He's
:38:09. > :38:12.going to have to switch that off. Talk about existing in a bubble. For
:38:13. > :38:15.five or ten minutes I has to close off the care for somebody who is
:38:16. > :38:19.definitely hurting around the back somewhere. This is his race right
:38:20. > :38:25.now and as World Champion and someone who has consistently raced
:38:26. > :38:31.very well in this event... I think he's got a better chance in the
:38:32. > :38:35.200m, mind. USA has gone one-two in 2008 and 2012. Can they do the
:38:36. > :38:43.triple double? Murphy in four, Plummer in five. The spoilers are
:38:44. > :38:56.Larkin for The starter held them a long time.
:38:57. > :39:00.This final will be fascinating. A very good start for Ryan Murphy, the
:39:01. > :39:04.21-year-old from the University of California, Berkeley. Very good
:39:05. > :39:08.start for him. Expect them under the world record split in the first
:39:09. > :39:14.half. Purse yol's record is relatively
:39:15. > :39:17.slow. -- Persol's record is relatively slow. N Persol brought it
:39:18. > :39:23.back strongly to break 52 seconds. Right now it's Larkin in three but I
:39:24. > :39:28.tell you what, Ryan Murphy very strong, steel head, 25m to go. It's
:39:29. > :39:32.anybody's. The World Champion in three, Mitch Larkin, is starting to
:39:33. > :39:36.fade. It looks like it's Ryan Murphy. He's going well for the USA
:39:37. > :39:40.and in five it's Plummer. It's going to be close but I think the gold
:39:41. > :39:46.medal goes to Ryan Murphy of the USA. Yes, it does. Silver to Xu of
:39:47. > :39:51.China in lane two, that's fascinating and the bronze to
:39:52. > :39:55.Plummer of the USA and Australia - no gold feddals in the 100m
:39:56. > :39:58.backstroke, men or women. Larkin fourth.
:39:59. > :40:02.A great swim from murve murve. Very strong into the turn and then --
:40:03. > :40:05.Murphy, very strong into the turn and when he came out of the water,
:40:06. > :40:12.asserted himself. First Olympic Games. Brilliant. He came second in
:40:13. > :40:24.the trials. He was second American in. Very close to the world record.
:40:25. > :40:29.An Olympic record. He was 0.03 seconds away from
:40:30. > :40:32.Persol's world record. The 21-year-old from the University of
:40:33. > :40:37.California - look how powerful his thighs are. Look at that start. I
:40:38. > :40:40.love watching the start. He flicked his hips a little bit sideways.
:40:41. > :40:45.That's fascinating. His underwater is good but the burst to the
:40:46. > :40:51.surface, when he used that energy to go forwards, Larkin had great turn,
:40:52. > :40:55.better turn, but the best of the surface of Murphy was extraordinary.
:40:56. > :40:58.Clear win here. Larkin far left, getting a extra stroke N the
:40:59. > :41:02.Australians were expecting, given they had the world champions, men
:41:03. > :41:08.and women, coming into this, they expected the golds. And it's been
:41:09. > :41:11.Hungary and America. And David Plummer there, the 30-year-old,
:41:12. > :41:16.getting the bronze medal. So first and third, the Americans maintaining
:41:17. > :41:22.the tradition of a gold medal since '96. And one very happy Ryan Murphy,
:41:23. > :41:27.medley relay. They're going to get a great lead-off with him, aren't
:41:28. > :41:31.they? Well, fascinating and a very quick time. Nearly the world record.
:41:32. > :41:36.Ryan Murphy wins gold. A new Olympic record for him. Xu, massive silver
:41:37. > :41:43.medal for him. Plummer the bronze and Larkin fourth.
:41:44. > :41:49.What do you make of Ryan Murphy's time, then, guys? Wow! Unbelievable.
:41:50. > :41:53.I think Mark said it before the race - he thought they'd get close and to
:41:54. > :41:57.dip under 52 seconds is just crazy. You can see how happy he was and
:41:58. > :42:02.rightly so. It was bizarre because when he came out, he was probably
:42:03. > :42:08.the only one who looked a shrinking violet. He didn't look confident at
:42:09. > :42:12.all. Murphy swims in America, obviously, but he's in the
:42:13. > :42:17.collegiate system and he's won the NCAAs for the last two years and the
:42:18. > :42:20.NCAA collegiate system races are so strong and he smashed Persol's
:42:21. > :42:24.records in the States. He is obviously in form. Coming in here is
:42:25. > :42:28.another thing, coming in and doing it. Larkin was World Champion last
:42:29. > :42:33.year. He blew out. Lacourt, European champion, he's won the worlds, he
:42:34. > :42:36.blew out. So when you put in the pressure and the adrenaline, you've
:42:37. > :42:41.got to be able to do it and Americans tend to love that
:42:42. > :42:43.environment. A shame for Mitch Larkin and his girlfriend Emily
:42:44. > :42:51.Seebohm bombed out. Very good. Seebohm, bomb. Very good. Talking of
:42:52. > :42:53.cliches, let's ping-pong back to Jason to see how Paul Drinkhall is
:42:54. > :42:59.getting on. Very nicely done. Paul Drinkhall is
:43:00. > :43:02.in his last-16 match against Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus.
:43:03. > :43:05.Samsonov, number nine in the world, got off to a great start winning
:43:06. > :43:08.three games but Drinkhall saved seven match points to take the
:43:09. > :43:12.fourth game. We're going to show you what happened in the fifth game. We
:43:13. > :43:19.join it with Drinkhall five-three up.
:43:20. > :43:25.Samsonov is not diviling on the past. He's totally focused on the
:43:26. > :43:59.game. He's two points adrift with two serves to come.
:44:00. > :44:10.Very fluent backhand and forehand topspins from Samsonov. Still Paul
:44:11. > :44:34.Drinkhall leads 6-4. Two serves to come.
:44:35. > :44:48.He sent that through quite flat. In other words no topspin on the ball,
:44:49. > :45:12.forcing Drinkhall to left. That's a great return of serve
:45:13. > :45:15.there. He used the side spin that Samsonov imparted on the ball,
:45:16. > :45:20.flicked it out wide, see here it's got that side spin on. He uses the
:45:21. > :45:23.spin to angle it out wide to the forehand of Samsonov. Clever play by
:45:24. > :45:40.Paul Drinkhall. Two points against the service. Paul
:45:41. > :46:08.Drinkhall now with his two serves to come.
:46:09. > :46:48.He's quick on his feet. Strong forehand, topspin.
:46:49. > :46:54.Oh, the return of serve, topspin down the line. Three game points for
:46:55. > :47:03.Paul Drinkhall. Just sense now that he's beginning to get on top. He's
:47:04. > :47:19.dominating at the moment, no question about that. He takes the
:47:20. > :47:36.fifth game but it's Vladimir Samsonov who leads by three gims to
:47:37. > :47:40.two. We'll show you the conclusion of that match later. It's continuing
:47:41. > :47:45.on the red button if you want to watch that table tennis. Let's show
:47:46. > :47:51.you what's been happening in the men's singles. Kei Nishikori is
:47:52. > :47:55.through to the necked round, having seen off John Millman. So you're
:47:56. > :48:00.completely up to date. Let's take you back to Helen Skelton and
:48:01. > :48:06.another big swimming final on its way.
:48:07. > :48:10.You join us in the medal ceremony and it will be interesting to see
:48:11. > :48:13.how everyone reacts to Sun Yang. There's been controversy because
:48:14. > :48:17.he's served a drugs ban. He's a controversial character in the pool.
:48:18. > :48:20.Gets into a lot of scrapes. Andy, Adrian, let's see how people react
:48:21. > :48:36.to this one. Well, he's got applause. Some
:48:37. > :48:41.applause. Well, an interesting mixture. There's a chap below us
:48:42. > :48:46.booing loudly but Sun Yang, I have to say, paced it well. Kissing the
:48:47. > :48:50.medal. He very nearly won the 400m freestyle. I'm sure he'll win the
:48:51. > :48:55.1,500m but I'm not sure of that at all. That might be his only gold but
:48:56. > :49:03.it was a really well-paced swim and in the end, he won it by 55
:49:04. > :49:22.hundredths, which is not a small margin.
:49:23. > :50:09.CHINESE NATIONAL ANTHEM PLAYS the Olympic Champion in
:50:10. > :50:15.the men's 200m freestyle goes to Sun Yang. A gutsy silver medal to Chad
:50:16. > :50:23.Le Clos and it was a great bronze from Conor Dwyer from the USA. James
:50:24. > :50:27.Guy finishing in fourth position, just 0.16 seconds outside the
:50:28. > :50:31.medals. Interesting to see Chad Le Clos
:50:32. > :50:36.there. He was sort of stretching and fidgeting around. He's still got his
:50:37. > :50:42.goggles around his neck! I love it! He's got to get back in for the 200m
:50:43. > :50:45.butterfly. It makes me laugh. Take them off and put them in your
:50:46. > :50:50.pocket. Does that put him at a disadvantage? Yeah, of course. Not
:50:51. > :50:56.for that race, it didn't. He gave it his all. He went out and did his own
:50:57. > :51:03.race and it nearly paid off but for the 200m fly semis coming up, Phelps
:51:04. > :51:07.and the others are nice and fresh but to be honest, he's got enough in
:51:08. > :51:12.the bag and he's done that much hard work. But it will be hard going to
:51:13. > :51:19.get up and do four lengths of butterfly stroke, which is
:51:20. > :51:23.incredibly difficult anyway. It's getting loud around us because the
:51:24. > :51:27.bank of photographers, around about, I don't know, what, 200
:51:28. > :51:35.photographers, 300 photographers, all with lenses. You can see him
:51:36. > :51:40.giving his dad a little thumbs-up just behind the blocks. Of course
:51:41. > :51:45.cameras have lenses! No, their lenses are trained on the Olympian.
:51:46. > :51:53.That's Chad putting a little thumbs-up to his dad. Aw! Look at
:51:54. > :51:58.that! Conor Dwyer giving his mum a hug there. A classic American Hi-5
:51:59. > :52:05.to the Dwyer clan. Celebrating that medal. Huge congratulations. That's
:52:06. > :52:21.what we wanted Adam to do yesterday, wasn't it? The next final we have is
:52:22. > :52:26.the women's 100m and back in 2012, Ruta Meilutye did something very,
:52:27. > :52:30.very special. Ruta Meilutye, 15 years of age, her first major
:52:31. > :52:34.championship. Heavens above! She's miles ahead. She just made the
:52:35. > :52:40.defending Olympic Champion look distinctly ordinary. Go in the semi,
:52:41. > :52:45.get in the final, do that again and you might get a medal. A new
:52:46. > :52:50.European record for Ruta Meilutye and she's qualified fastest for the
:52:51. > :52:54.final. Meilutye is holing on in lane four. Lithuania have never won a
:52:55. > :52:58.medal in the swimming pool. It will be tight. It's Meilutye! It is! Gold
:52:59. > :53:03.medal to Ruta Meilutye of Lithuania and Plymouth, let me tell you. How
:53:04. > :53:13.special is this for you? It's too much for me. I can't believe it. I
:53:14. > :53:20.can't believe it. Olympic Champion, aged 15. Well done!
:53:21. > :53:24.That is sweet. A lot has happened in the last four years for Ruta
:53:25. > :53:28.Meilutye. She was the girl at the Olympic Games who kind of jumped on
:53:29. > :53:31.to the international scene. It was a surprise medal and everybody fell in
:53:32. > :53:34.love with her. We do like to claim her a little bit like she's one of
:53:35. > :53:39.our own. Rightly so. She trains with us in the UK. So it has been a bit
:53:40. > :53:43.up and down but obviously she's still Olympic Champion. No-one can
:53:44. > :53:45.take that away from her. I personally think she's been
:53:46. > :53:48.struggling in the last 25m throughout the heats and the
:53:49. > :53:51.semifinals we've seen so I think it will be really, really tough for her
:53:52. > :53:56.tonight. She's had a tough year. Let's talk to Sharon Davies now
:53:57. > :54:00.because, Sharon, you've talked to Ruta over the years. We saw you
:54:01. > :54:04.there in 2012 almost trying to convince her that she'd won the gold
:54:05. > :54:08.medal. She couldn't believe it, could she? I must admit I remember
:54:09. > :54:12.the interview. I did all the talking and she just stood there talking to
:54:13. > :54:16.-- looking at me. It was a lovely interview. All the emotion was in
:54:17. > :54:20.her face. We had three 15-year-olds that won gold medal and one of those
:54:21. > :54:30.was Katie Ledecky and they're both back in the pool. It will be a
:54:31. > :54:32.controversial race, this one, because we've got Efimovaa
:54:33. > :54:38.breaststroker, banned twice and now back in the water. Not a great night
:54:39. > :54:41.for drug-takers in the pool. I have to say I'm, I'm, quite staunch on
:54:42. > :54:46.these sorts of things. Poor old James was fourth and could have been
:54:47. > :54:50.third... Maybe. I feel like that's a discussion we will delve into more
:54:51. > :54:54.over the next few days and of course, Sharron, you are totally
:54:55. > :54:57.valid in that opinion. Let's talk about Ruta because she's a different
:54:58. > :55:02.young woman. She's dealt with a massive injury and she's got a
:55:03. > :55:06.steely character, hasn't she? Um, yeah, you've got to remember she had
:55:07. > :55:10.a really bad accident not long agoing and when you look carefully
:55:11. > :55:16.she's got a nasty scar on her elbow so she's had to work very hard but
:55:17. > :55:23.she's one of the only ladies I know who can do a one-armed chin. She's a
:55:24. > :55:27.Plymouthian and so am I and as you said, we'd love to see her win that
:55:28. > :55:32.medal. I think lots of people would. As you said, we kind of claim her
:55:33. > :55:37.because she trains in the UK. Thank you, Sharron. One-arm chins. I can't
:55:38. > :55:44.even do a two-arm chin. That's incredible. You can do that. I used
:55:45. > :55:48.to be able to do that. I went down and saw Ben there under John Rudd
:55:49. > :55:52.and their gym set-up - I can't remember the trainer's name so I'm
:55:53. > :55:54.sorry not to give you a plug - but it was wonderful set-up. The work
:55:55. > :55:58.they do and the intensity they work at is phenomenal. Remembering
:55:59. > :56:01.Olympic Champion at 15 years of age, that's something special in itself.
:56:02. > :56:05.I think from the injury, she's going to struggle to get back to where she
:56:06. > :56:09.was before. Her and Efimova have been like that for years. It will be
:56:10. > :56:15.about the two of them. And also Lilly. Lilly King. We're strong on
:56:16. > :56:20.this. I hope that Efimova doesn't win and that King or Ruta pulls one
:56:21. > :56:23.out of the bag for us. Just to set the record straight for everybody
:56:24. > :56:27.not up to speed on the Efimova story - and let's be honest, who is
:56:28. > :56:31.because she's been through a legal obstacle course to get herself into
:56:32. > :56:35.these Games. She served a drugs ban, came back, won a World Championship
:56:36. > :56:39.and then tested positive for a banned substance earlier this year.
:56:40. > :56:43.She appealed it while that substance is investigated. After lots of toing
:56:44. > :56:46.and froing and appealing to different bodies she's here and is
:56:47. > :56:51.going to race and it will be interesting to see how she goes in
:56:52. > :56:58.this one. There she is, looks slightly nervous. With Lilly King
:56:59. > :57:02.behind her. It will be interesting to see how people react to her.
:57:03. > :57:07.Andy, Adrian, I'd like your opinion on this one. Adrian you were part of
:57:08. > :57:14.the athletes' commission to convinced. BOA to put a lifetime ban
:57:15. > :57:19.on athletes that served a drugs ban. That's been overturned but I know
:57:20. > :57:23.you have strong reactions to this. It's the IOC's party and they wimped
:57:24. > :57:28.out. If you have a ban, you shouldn't ever be in the Olympic
:57:29. > :57:30.Games. It's nice to see Lilly King giving the daggers looks there.
:57:31. > :57:46.Fantastic. So here in lane one is Luthersdottir
:57:47. > :57:49.from Iceland in the women's 100m breaststroke and Alia Atkinson,
:57:50. > :57:53.wouldn't it be great to see her on the podium? She's the world
:57:54. > :57:57.shortcourse champion. She's wick down the first 50m. Silver medallist
:57:58. > :58:03.in the World Championships on the 50m. And here, Katie Meili, her
:58:04. > :58:13.first finals. She could win. She certainly could, fourth fastest in
:58:14. > :58:16.the world this year. Now, Ruta Meilutye of Plymouth and Lithuania
:58:17. > :58:20.has a chance of becoming the first swimmer in history to defend an
:58:21. > :58:25.Olympic title as a teenager. Wouldn't that be something, Ade? It
:58:26. > :58:30.would be brilliant. She has really done such a lot for Lithuania. It's
:58:31. > :58:36.interesting that she comes back to Plymouth, she says, for a quiet
:58:37. > :58:39.time. She's a real hero in Lithuania and feels a responsibility for
:58:40. > :58:44.stepping up but I think it might be too far here. Let's listen to this
:58:45. > :58:56.ovation. BOOING
:58:57. > :58:59.It's not all of her making, this situation, the IOC and FINA have a
:59:00. > :59:03.lot to answer for. CHEERING
:59:04. > :59:08.Here is the fastest qualifying -- qualifier for this the final, Lilly
:59:09. > :59:13.King, and she was standing behind Efimova and if looks could kill!
:59:14. > :59:17.Goodness me! She looks confident. I think she feels like the whole world
:59:18. > :59:22.wants her to win and she's soaking it up. For a 19-year-old to come out
:59:23. > :59:28.in her first major championships to come out like that, that's
:59:29. > :59:33.impressive. Four, five and six is going to be but I think you called
:59:34. > :59:37.Miley in lane two. There's Ruta. She struggled in the semifinal in the
:59:38. > :59:41.last ten metres, unusually so. Tense. Goodness me. Focus,
:59:42. > :59:47.definitely. I expect Ruta to be out quickly and
:59:48. > :59:52.I expect Efimova to come back very fast indeed. Atkinson will be out
:59:53. > :59:56.quick too. Six and seven expect to be out quick. The pink suit is
:59:57. > :00:01.Efimova. The black suit on the left is Lilly King of the USA, the
:00:02. > :00:05.fastest qualifier. So king king in four, Efimova in five in the pink
:00:06. > :00:10.suit. Ruta Meilutye in six. King in four, Efimova in five in the pink
:00:11. > :00:11.suit. Ruta Meilutye in six. The final of the women's 100m
:00:12. > :00:20.breaststroke. Well, Ruta had a quick reaction to
:00:21. > :00:23.the gun and a good start and first up is Ruta Meilutye. Also a very
:00:24. > :00:30.good start from Lilly King in lane four. So it's four and six, King and
:00:31. > :00:33.Meilutye. Well, absolutely, Andy. Great start from Meilutye. Lane four
:00:34. > :00:38.swimming traditionally behind the rest of the field. Comes through
:00:39. > :00:44.towards the end, though. In lane two, Miley, keep an eye out for her
:00:45. > :00:48.-- Meili, keep an eye out for her in world record-place. Watch out for
:00:49. > :00:51.lane five, though, sorry, lane five coming back very strongly.
:00:52. > :00:55.Traditionally, beautiful tec theeck in lane five, I have to say. Well,
:00:56. > :01:01.at the moment, it is Lilly King in four and Meili in two. USA and USA
:01:02. > :01:05.but here comes Efimova in that pink suit of Russia. At the moment,
:01:06. > :01:09.though, still, it's Lilly King. Lilly King fastest in the world this
:01:10. > :01:13.year. And she's still holding on but coming back very fast is Efimova.
:01:14. > :01:16.Efimova is traditionally quick inside the last 15m. Still holding
:01:17. > :01:22.on is Lilly King. Lilly King's going to win it, I think. Lilly King gets
:01:23. > :01:27.the gold! Oh, that fantastic! Oh, what a fabulous swim! Oh, so gutsy!
:01:28. > :01:30.She came out almost with boxing gloves on! She was looking daggers
:01:31. > :01:36.at Efimova and she's just done it! She's won the gold on the 100m
:01:37. > :01:43.breaststroke, a new Olympic record, the time 10493 and she won it by
:01:44. > :01:46.over half a second -- 1:04.93 and she won it by over half a second.
:01:47. > :01:52.Silver to Efimova and bronze to Meili of the USA. Wow, she was not
:01:53. > :01:56.going to lose that. At 80m, I thought lane five was going to come
:01:57. > :02:02.through but King just dug in and I think she was propelled by something
:02:03. > :02:07.special there, you know. The 19-year-old, getting under 65
:02:08. > :02:13.seconds. For the first time. Well, what a future she's got ahead of
:02:14. > :02:17.her. Gold medal, first Olympics. And Meili, the second American with that
:02:18. > :02:22.bronze medal. Here's a start. Great reactions in lane four. Hans off
:02:23. > :02:25.first, you can see a clear, clear advantage getting in the water
:02:26. > :02:32.first. Slightly off centre. The track starts... Is... Well, it's a
:02:33. > :02:36.goods old start but it doesn't make you wonky if you're not careful.
:02:37. > :02:40.Lane two, Meili, ended up in first and second and round the wall, you
:02:41. > :02:45.can see that one big fly kick. In fact, King didn't much of a fly kick
:02:46. > :02:50.at all. She can really work on that. And Efimova did too. Well, that is
:02:51. > :02:53.quite special. You've got to say the starts and the turns of the
:02:54. > :02:57.Americans are outstanding but how she held on in that last 15m, I
:02:58. > :03:03.thought Efimova was charging. Look at that. She came out with a boxing
:03:04. > :03:08.gloves on. -- her blocking gloves on. She was looking daggers and
:03:09. > :03:15.there the embrace of gold and bronze, King and Me, li of the --
:03:16. > :03:19.Meili of the USA. Super smiles, Ade. It's brilliant. I think King feels
:03:20. > :03:30.vindicated for the position she has very strongly held. A fantastic gold
:03:31. > :03:38.medal. So the result of the women's 100m breaststroke, delighted with
:03:39. > :03:45.it: Ruta Meilutye faded in the end, down in seventh.
:03:46. > :03:49.Well, another teenage Olympic Champion in this event, Ruta
:03:50. > :03:56.Meilutye sadly down in seventh but what a good night for the Americans!
:03:57. > :04:00.Thank gosh that happened. I think we're all very pleased with that
:04:01. > :04:05.result. A fantastic swim. Efimova comes back to strong but Lilly was
:04:06. > :04:08.not giving it to her. Credit to Lilly King - a lot of discussion
:04:09. > :04:14.around Efimova, around the drugs ban, would she be here? Wouldn't she
:04:15. > :04:19.be here? The start list was only changed at the weekend. But I think
:04:20. > :04:23.aide hit it on the head when he said Lilly King had her boxing gloves on.
:04:24. > :04:27.In the last 25m, whatever your inspiration or motivation is, she'd
:04:28. > :04:30.been so strongly outspoken, the bottom line was she wasn't going to
:04:31. > :04:34.give in at the end and she fought for every inches. She won it by half
:04:35. > :04:39.a second and I think that was the best swim of the week so far as far
:04:40. > :04:43.as the audience are concerned. But, um, I feel for Ruta. I wish she
:04:44. > :04:47.could have been in the fight at the same time but Efimova will feel
:04:48. > :04:53.that. When she came out here, that was loud. That was very loud. I feel
:04:54. > :04:57.for her but the bottom line is the world governing body needs to take a
:04:58. > :05:01.stance that if you cheat, you're a lifetime ban and then she wunt be
:05:02. > :05:06.here. That was that. Still plenty to come forward to. Michael Phelps,
:05:07. > :05:09.Chad Le Clos back in the pile and Hannah Miley and Siobhan-Marie
:05:10. > :05:12.O'Connor but it's time now to check in on Paul Drinkhall.
:05:13. > :05:17.Helen, thank you very much indeed. What a great swim from Lilly King.
:05:18. > :05:21.As Helen says, let's get up to date with the table tennis. We've been
:05:22. > :05:24.following Team GB's Paul Drinkhall taking on the world number nine
:05:25. > :05:30.Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus. We left it with Drinkhall winning the
:05:31. > :05:42.fifth game so it's 3-2. We join the action with Drinkhall leading 7-5.
:05:43. > :05:59.Samsonov led 5-2. Five consecutive points for Paul Drinkhall. He's now
:06:00. > :06:02.got his two serves to come. Samsonov did well, moving the ball
:06:03. > :06:24.around the table. That bounced a little bit too high.
:06:25. > :06:31.A very brave save to do by Drinkhall.
:06:32. > :06:47.Seven points each. Samsonov with his two serves.
:06:48. > :06:51.What wonderful short touch play by Samsonov.
:06:52. > :06:56.Kept the ball tight over the net. Soft hands required to do that.
:06:57. > :07:07.Delicate touch. And then all of a sudden he can explode with power.
:07:08. > :07:12.That's a great forehand topspin down the line.
:07:13. > :07:17.Paul Drinkhall at full stretch there. Couldn't quite get his bat on
:07:18. > :07:24.the ball sufficiently well to control it.
:07:25. > :07:36.A good run of points now by the number seven seed.
:07:37. > :07:40.Drinkhall probably needs both these points and that's another three
:07:41. > :07:41.match points. Vladimir Samsonov has had seven
:07:42. > :08:15.already. A good backhand topspin down the
:08:16. > :08:21.line. Eight match points saved. Two more remain here. Can Paul Drinkhall
:08:22. > :08:25.save ten match points? The umpire asking the players to
:08:26. > :08:55.keep play going. Oh, he's just overhit the forehand
:08:56. > :09:01.flick and Samsonov takes the sixth game 11-le and he wins this
:09:02. > :09:06.fourth-round match by four games to two, 11-8. It took him nine match
:09:07. > :09:11.points to do it. You can see the relief on his face. What a great
:09:12. > :09:19.performance, though, by Paul Drinkhall, but full marks to the
:09:20. > :09:22.Belorussian player, Vladimir Samsonov, held his nerve, and he's
:09:23. > :09:30.through to the quarterfinal. Well done, Vladimir Samsonov.
:09:31. > :09:34.Paul, that was some fight there. But the comeback, you just couldn't
:09:35. > :09:38.quite pull it off? Yeah, no, he's a great player. I managed to somehow
:09:39. > :09:41.sneak the fourth set there and started to find my game. I think I
:09:42. > :09:47.was playing well in the first three and a couple of points here or there
:09:48. > :09:51.could have changed from 3-0 to him to 2-1 or even 2-1 to me. But, yeah,
:09:52. > :09:56.he's a great player and he managed to change it round in the end. You
:09:57. > :10:00.saved seven match points in the fourth game before you pulled the
:10:01. > :10:03.game back yourself. Does that show how much you wanted to be the first
:10:04. > :10:07.Brit in a quarterfinal. Yeah, it just shows... I mean, I believe in
:10:08. > :10:11.myself. I want to win and I'm sure if it was the other way round, he
:10:12. > :10:16.would have tried to save them match points as well. I managed to play
:10:17. > :10:21.well in them points and after winning the fourth set, I found my
:10:22. > :10:24.timing and got on top but I let it slip a little bit in the last set.
:10:25. > :10:30.Again, I don't think I did anything wrong. I missed a few balls here and
:10:31. > :10:35.there but he's a great player and it was very good match.
:10:36. > :10:38.Paul Drinkhall talking to David McDaid and Samsonov is one of the
:10:39. > :10:42.best players in the world but fair play to Paul Drinkhall. He hung in
:10:43. > :10:45.there. Not the end of his Rio Olympics because he's in the team
:10:46. > :10:50.event, which starts on Saturday, along is the Sam Walker and Liam
:10:51. > :10:54.Pitchford. We wish Paul Drinkhall all the best. We'll pop to Helen
:10:55. > :10:57.shortly but let's go around the Olympics and show you what's
:10:58. > :11:03.available this evening. If you want beach volleyball, still going on in
:11:04. > :11:06.the magnificent arena, it's Australia against Venezuela on the
:11:07. > :11:15.red button. If you fancy a bit of volleyball -
:11:16. > :11:17.it's very noisy inside the arena tonight because the hosts are
:11:18. > :11:31.playing this evening. Great venue. And also it's China
:11:32. > :11:35.against France in the basketball. That's available on the BBC Sport
:11:36. > :11:41.website and the BBC Sport app. But now here on BBC One, let's go back
:11:42. > :11:46.live to the Olympic aquatic stadium and Helen Skelton.
:11:47. > :11:49.You join as the music surrounding us is for Katinka Hosszu, picking up
:11:50. > :11:54.her second gold of the Olympics and she's doing her lap of honour behind
:11:55. > :11:58.us. Well done to Hungarian viewers. Stay up late and have a celebratory
:11:59. > :12:01.espresso. We, however, are poised for the next chapter in the great
:12:02. > :12:04.rivalry between Chad Le Clos and Michael Phelps. Here's what you need
:12:05. > :12:09.to know. Listen to this.
:12:10. > :12:14.He's got 14 gold medals and two bronzes coming into this meet.
:12:15. > :12:21.Chad Le Clos has got a chance, Commonwealth champion. He looks
:12:22. > :12:26.good. Off to a very clean start, Chad Le
:12:27. > :12:30.Clos off very quickly with that green hat of South Africa and fep
:12:31. > :12:34.fep fep, first to turn, Adrian -- Michael Phelps first to turn,
:12:35. > :12:38.Adrian. Phelps usually dominates a bit more. If Le Clos can feel on his
:12:39. > :12:42.shoulder that Phelps is local down a bit, he'll go for it. Well, Michael
:12:43. > :12:45.Phelps turning first at the 100m but didn't quite spot the turn as well
:12:46. > :12:49.as he normally does. He's looking tired. 50m to go. Still first to
:12:50. > :12:55.turn. If anybody can tough this out,
:12:56. > :13:00.Michael Phelps can. Will he create history by winning this race for the
:13:01. > :13:05.third time in a row? Chad Le Clos is pushing him. He did not get it! Oh,
:13:06. > :13:09.my goodness me, Chad Le Clos won gold, silver to Michael Phelps. Look
:13:10. > :13:19.what that means! You've just beaten the greatest
:13:20. > :13:27.swimmer ever in history. I really can't. I really can't believe it.
:13:28. > :13:32.Michael is my hero. I never, ever get tired of watching that moment
:13:33. > :13:35.because it's #unbelievable. Chad's family have it all emblazoned across
:13:36. > :13:42.their T shirts. This is one of the great contests. It's great to watch.
:13:43. > :13:47.It's great to see it play out. Talk us through Michael Phelps last
:13:48. > :13:52.night. What you saw on his face was the emotion that he's missed this.
:13:53. > :13:57.He gave up for a couple of years but came back.
:13:58. > :14:01.I know it's a team event but when he gives up, it's all gone. And I think
:14:02. > :14:06.he wanted a little bit more of this stuff. Here he go. Picking up his
:14:07. > :14:13.19th gold medal last night and he's a couple of years away. He's had a
:14:14. > :14:19.lot going on outside of the pool. Went into rehab. He's spoken
:14:20. > :14:24.publicly about how he's in a great place. Beccy has met baby Boomer.
:14:25. > :14:29.He's so cute! He's fast asleep though. He won't be in a minute.
:14:30. > :14:33.Michael Phelps seems to be, in terms of his headspace, in a good place.
:14:34. > :14:36.No-one even asked him what he was hoping to do this week because
:14:37. > :14:40.there's so much to ask him about the occasion. What's he capable of? I
:14:41. > :14:44.think tonight is making it through to the final. I think he'll hold a
:14:45. > :14:46.little something back. The main one is the final. Tonight is just a
:14:47. > :14:52.process to get there. And we've seen Chad in the pool
:14:53. > :14:57.already tonight so that one is going to be a tougher swim for Chad. He's
:14:58. > :15:02.going to feel the lactic burn, especially down the 50m and don't
:15:03. > :15:06.forget Laszlo Czeh, who has had a fantastic year, the only guy in the
:15:07. > :15:10.world devastated when Michael Phelps came back. He swam a great time at
:15:11. > :15:14.the European Championships a few months ago. We know he's on form.
:15:15. > :15:18.This is just about a process and getting through, but I think we want
:15:19. > :15:21.Laszlo Czeh to make more of a statement in the first semifinal. He
:15:22. > :15:26.goes in the first semifinal but Le Clos and Phelps are in the second
:15:27. > :15:26.semifinal. It's been a bit of trash-talking from their coaches,
:15:27. > :15:35.you know? Phelps's coach is saying Michael's
:15:36. > :15:40.turns are better than before. What about the mind games? Chad - that
:15:41. > :15:45.was wonderful when you saw that clip when he said, "He's my hero." He's
:15:46. > :15:50.the person he's always looked up to and he beat him four years ago. Chad
:15:51. > :15:53.is one of these people who will front people up, not aggressively
:15:54. > :15:56.but every time he's been on the massage bed backstage and warming
:15:57. > :16:00.up, he's eyeing the Americans up and trying to sort of, you know, saying
:16:01. > :16:04.I'm not scared of you and you can see in the 200m free the way he went
:16:05. > :16:08.out he's not scared of hurting himself. The difficult thing for him
:16:09. > :16:13.tonight will be to get through these semis because he's going to be
:16:14. > :16:17.tired. But Laszlo is a dark horse here I think. He had a quick time.
:16:18. > :16:21.If he's on form, when these come together in the final, they're side
:16:22. > :16:24.by side, Chad is a little bit tired tonight ends up on the outside, it's
:16:25. > :16:39.going to be fascinating. different for the nation because
:16:40. > :16:44.he's got the expectations of the nation on his back. Going to
:16:45. > :16:52.Beijing, it was Rebecca Adlington. Going to London - you only got a
:16:53. > :17:01.bronze. Back off! Sorry. Hold off! But there is the expectation, you
:17:02. > :17:08.know. It is a different thing. From being not just nobody there. You go
:17:09. > :17:12.from being the hunter to the00ed. Yes, and what we've seen Chad do in
:17:13. > :17:16.the 200 metres and the freestyle. For both of them, tonight is making
:17:17. > :17:20.it through. I didn't personally think that Phelps looked amazing and
:17:21. > :17:26.really smooth this morning but you can hear the crowd now. I wonder
:17:27. > :17:32.where he's gone! They're loud and they're proud and rightly so. But
:17:33. > :17:36.you guys, hug it out. Don't worry, it's very friendly. Let's get stuck
:17:37. > :17:41.into one of the greatest contests in Olympic swimming.
:17:42. > :17:49.Thank you, there is Zheng of Singapore. Did really well to make
:17:50. > :17:52.this semifinal. Now, Daya Seto of Japan. He was your favourite. An
:17:53. > :18:00.outside chance of a medal here. Not tonight. But interestingly, I saw a
:18:01. > :18:06.picture of Seto as a child with Michael Phelps. Phelps was his hero.
:18:07. > :18:10.And I think that Mark is right on Laszlo Cseh. Not so much the dark
:18:11. > :18:13.horse being the fastest in the world coming in. He was easing off in the
:18:14. > :18:24.heat there. So they won't show everything tonight. We'll see Aceh
:18:25. > :18:31.in lane four. There he is. There is Laszlo Cseh. I wrongly nicknamed him
:18:32. > :18:35.the Alien. I thought that I read something that called him the alien
:18:36. > :18:39.but it wasn't correct. But when you see the green goggles and he comes
:18:40. > :18:42.out. Look! He does... There's a little bit... Can you see where I'm
:18:43. > :18:45.going? I can see exactly where you're going. It's very scary. But
:18:46. > :18:53.his mum thinks he's beautiful. And I do too! Grant Irvine, the second
:18:54. > :19:03.fastest seed in this first semifinal of the men's 200 m fly. So you've
:19:04. > :19:12.got Japan in 3 and 6. The third and fourth fastest qualifiers. Australia
:19:13. > :19:17.in five. But Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, the European champion, the World
:19:18. > :19:23.Champion. Still not won Olympic gold. There's a bra zimian in lane
:19:24. > :19:35.7. That's what the noise is about. There's Laszlo Cseh. A good looking
:19:36. > :19:39.chap, eh! Hole, digging out of! He has a great chance. Has to get
:19:40. > :19:45.through this. Interestingly, you shave your head but leave the goggle
:19:46. > :19:49.sticky outy bit there is. If you're going to get streamlined by shaving
:19:50. > :19:59.your head off and then leave that speed bump on the back of your head.
:20:00. > :20:05.Well, I don't know if you can hear the Brazilian commentators next to
:20:06. > :20:11.us but they're almost shouting all the way through the "take your
:20:12. > :20:16.marks" off that men's 200 metres butterfly. Laszlo Cseh in the centre
:20:17. > :20:21.in the bald head. Going well is Li of China. Great first length for
:20:22. > :20:27.Aceh. He's strong and almost throws the arms over. Slapping the water at
:20:28. > :20:34.the front. Very effective. Around first, only by 100 of a second. From
:20:35. > :20:38.Li in Lane 8. This is going to be interesting. He's going to set a
:20:39. > :20:43.time. He's going to post a time here that will cause the second semi to
:20:44. > :20:47.have a bit of a think. Almost gliding there. His leg kick is very
:20:48. > :20:51.interesting, isn't it? Like very flat with the legs at the back end.
:20:52. > :20:54.Not using the hips much at all. It's really bizarre because he doesn't
:20:55. > :20:59.have a really big second quick at all. He kicks when the arms go in.
:21:00. > :21:05.And woah, first to turn is in 7. Listen to the crowd. Marcio, the
:21:06. > :21:08.31-year-old Brazilian and the Brazilians have gone nuts here. But
:21:09. > :21:12.he does have a very streang stroke in the centre. Completely straight
:21:13. > :21:20.arms over the top and a kick in the wrong place for me. And also going
:21:21. > :21:24.well is Saiki from Japan in 3. Seito of Japan also coming through
:21:25. > :21:28.strongly. So what you've got is the two Japanese in the black caps
:21:29. > :21:33.separated by Laszlo Cseh in the middle. Having a quick little look
:21:34. > :21:38.but held the glide longer than the rest and that worked to his
:21:39. > :21:44.advantage. Now edging forward with this Saikai, the 21-year-old in lane
:21:45. > :21:49.3 but Saito coming back strongly. Saito does look good and the 400
:21:50. > :21:54.metre individual bronze medallist. But now Laszlo Cseh, starting to
:21:55. > :22:00.move through but Saikai may well get the touch. No, Cseh gets it. Another
:22:01. > :22:03.comfortable swim for him. None of the big fly swimmers are very good
:22:04. > :22:07.at swimming medium fast pace. They're not comfortable at all and I
:22:08. > :22:11.think that that is yet another uncomfortable, comfortable swim. I
:22:12. > :22:15.get what you mean. It's really interesting because you're right,
:22:16. > :22:21.when they do a 1.55, they look like they're struggling a little bit. But
:22:22. > :22:26.Cseh can swim a good couple of seconds faster than this. Just
:22:27. > :22:30.holding something back. But it does look belaboured, really, really
:22:31. > :22:35.difficult to hold back. Very effective with his kick, though, but
:22:36. > :22:37.very, very unusual. Arms and the hands almost touching a the front.
:22:38. > :22:41.Very good flexibility to get the hands touching there at the front.
:22:42. > :22:50.Not wasting any of the pull by being too wide out of the side. Very
:22:51. > :22:53.important to get to the front. Seito with a strong second place but I
:22:54. > :22:58.don't think that they're showing their cards yet, are they? I tell
:22:59. > :23:03.you what, I hope not. Because the fates, you can read faces. The face
:23:04. > :23:08.of Laszlo Cseh looked a little bit look... Not seeing too much
:23:09. > :23:14.happiness there, are you? I've never seen too much happiness there. Look,
:23:15. > :23:20.still puffing! Well, takes a bit of breath. I suppose, he's yus done the
:23:21. > :23:26.200 metre fly. Laszlo Cseh wins it. Japan second and third.
:23:27. > :23:34.Laszlo Cseh, World Champion and European champion in this. Can he
:23:35. > :23:38.spoil the Phelps and Le Clos party? I think so. He's a full two seconds
:23:39. > :23:42.ago off what he did three months ago, so to me, I think that that was
:23:43. > :23:46.a little bit risky because you don't know what's going to happen in the
:23:47. > :23:49.second semifinal. Blowing a bit at the bottom but the 200 metre final
:23:50. > :23:53.is always hard. There's Michael Phelps. What do you make of that
:23:54. > :23:59.behaviour The interesting thing with him is that he always has the
:24:00. > :24:06.headphones on. Not many the other competitors have it there. Look at
:24:07. > :24:10.Chad staring at him there! Rumour on the pool deck is that he's been
:24:11. > :24:14.staring him out. But Phelps wouldn't look at him. That's what you used to
:24:15. > :24:18.do, psych people out? In the corner, it's the last chance to put your
:24:19. > :24:22.competitors off because when you come here, you can swim along and
:24:23. > :24:25.drag each other backwards but that doesn't happen. That would be a
:24:26. > :24:31.different form of swimming but the last opportunity to get. So I used
:24:32. > :24:35.to do press-ups. When I got nervous, I got chatty and I thought - we used
:24:36. > :24:40.to race for them and just shut up. But it was just part of my
:24:41. > :24:46.preparation. Oh, that explains it, you chat when you get nervous! Let's
:24:47. > :24:51.see how the crowd are reacting to Michael Phelps. Because he's almost
:24:52. > :24:56.as popular as the Brazilian! Thank you, I have to say that we
:24:57. > :24:58.were both in a relay with Mark Foster and some of us like to be
:24:59. > :25:02.quiet and when he would come and chat to me, I would say - go and
:25:03. > :25:07.stand in the corner and chat to the Germans or somebody. What about you?
:25:08. > :25:13.Were you quiet or noisy? I used to sit next to you and send Mark Foster
:25:14. > :25:17.and Phibbins over there and do a cracking job of annoying them. He's
:25:18. > :25:26.changed a lot now. Which p one? Love him to bits. Talks too much! No! No,
:25:27. > :25:31.he doesn't. No he doesn't. Here we go, the great Michael Phelps
:25:32. > :25:36.walking out in lane 3. Well, he looks focused, doesn't he?
:25:37. > :25:41.He really does look focused. The cool, calm, quiet collected swagger
:25:42. > :25:52.of a 19-times Olympic gold medal Is. 23 Olympic medals.
:25:53. > :25:58.And here, Chad Guy Bertrand Le Clos. But he's a great defending Olympic
:25:59. > :26:04.champion on the 200 metres butterfly and a fascinating sandwich there is
:26:05. > :26:07.Tamas Kenderesi, the 19-year-old Hungarian. The fastest qualifier
:26:08. > :26:12.after the Heats. And what a lane assignment for him. He did well in
:26:13. > :26:16.the heat there. He really impressed. The only man under 1.55. Fifth
:26:17. > :26:22.fastest time in the world this year. Put him in the centre. And Michael
:26:23. > :26:27.Phelps there. Looking focused, as you said. He knows that he has a job
:26:28. > :26:35.to do. He's got to qualify. He'll be looking to get under 1.55. There
:26:36. > :26:38.will be no playing around. I tell you what, the nerves of Kenderesi.
:26:39. > :26:41.Chad is having a look around and checking out Michael. He's over
:26:42. > :26:46.there! Yeah, two away. Michael will not look at him.
:26:47. > :26:50.Chad is having a chat? Yeah, looking over at Bromer. Because they're both
:26:51. > :26:55.facing each other. Obviously Chad likes to look to his breft and
:26:56. > :26:59.Bromer to the right. And staring at each other there. And Mike am looks
:27:00. > :27:09.down the lane. He's looking at his feet and where he's going to place
:27:10. > :27:14.his feet on the block. Second semifinal of the men's 200m fly. Two
:27:15. > :27:21.big men in 3 and 5. Michael Phelps and Chad Le Clos.
:27:22. > :27:26.Well, you had the Brazilian commentary through the start again
:27:27. > :27:29.of this, the second semifinal of the men's 200 fly. Right next to us and
:27:30. > :27:33.they're very loud. What a great start. I think having starting turns
:27:34. > :27:37.competitions with Michael Phelps and Chad Le Clos and I think that that
:27:38. > :27:40.was pretty even. Equal first by quite a long way. Absolutely, we saw
:27:41. > :27:44.Chad do that in the freestyle. He held back on that one. He's got to
:27:45. > :27:48.be careful going underwater too much. It's a real strength of his
:27:49. > :27:53.but getting too much of the oxygen burned is not going to be helpful.
:27:54. > :28:00.Phelps very strong, very nice first 25 there. Listen to Bob Bowman
:28:01. > :28:04.talking about Michael Phelps's relay where he had a fantastic 47.1 and
:28:05. > :28:11.said that the turn was the best turn he's ever seen in his life. From his
:28:12. > :28:15.coach, phenomenal. The 100 metre mark here. Kenderesi doing very well
:28:16. > :28:19.there in lane 4. The promise that he showed in the heats is repeating.
:28:20. > :28:23.Not being phased by Michael Phelps. In fact, I remember Steven Parry not
:28:24. > :28:29.being phased by Michael Phelps in Athens and taking him on in the
:28:30. > :28:32.semifinals. Chad Le Clos just had a little look around and Michael
:28:33. > :28:36.Phelps has got now to work pretty hard down the first 100. He's
:28:37. > :28:39.swimming away from Chad. Chad has to be a little bit careful here. He's
:28:40. > :28:43.looked around again. He's seen that he's a little bit far behind and
:28:44. > :28:48.he's starting to move. Phelps going into this final turn with about,
:28:49. > :28:53.what, a second, a second maybe or 0.64 but it looks comfortable from
:28:54. > :28:56.Phelps. A long underwater from Chad Le Clos and Kenderesi coming back
:28:57. > :29:00.like he did in the heats. Chad Le Clos is a classy swimmer. This is
:29:01. > :29:04.not an easy race for him. The pain will be significant. He's in third
:29:05. > :29:07.place at the moment. Looking over to see whether the top three is
:29:08. > :29:10.Kenderesi and impressing me. Very strong at the end and taking Phelps
:29:11. > :29:20.on in the last five. He did this this horning, he's going to win it!
:29:21. > :29:28.Oh! Quiet in the crowd. The crowd has just gone eooh! It has, it has.
:29:29. > :29:34.Goodness me. 1.53.9 from Kenderesi as well. Woah. He looks pretty
:29:35. > :29:40.confident as well. Thumbs up! That is massive. It's only the semi but
:29:41. > :29:43.Phelps was going for that one. Phelps did not swim a great American
:29:44. > :29:47.trials on that. Look at his face. Didn't swim a great trials on the
:29:48. > :29:50.200 metre fly. It was the weaker event and I think that he was quite
:29:51. > :29:53.concerned about it. Not quite what he wanted to do. He said that he
:29:54. > :29:56.wanted to come back and do something a little better and I think that he
:29:57. > :30:00.worked that hard? He did. But what we do know about Michael Phelps is
:30:01. > :30:05.that he never gives in. He's a strong, strong fighter and when he's
:30:06. > :30:09.in a race, he finds something extra. And Kenderesi is going to, as a
:30:10. > :30:13.rookie, if you like, trying to take on Phelps. They're all at it. Every
:30:14. > :30:19.time that Phelps gets in the Olympics, somebody has a go at him.
:30:20. > :30:23.Right now, in this particular race, Kenderesi stronger at the back. But
:30:24. > :30:28.Michael Phelps will have something else, I think, tomorrow. Le Clos
:30:29. > :30:34.doing enough I believe. To make it in. This was a fast semifinal. This
:30:35. > :30:40.was the faster of the semifinals and two Hungarians in the top three. So
:30:41. > :30:44.the result of that second semifinal and a bit of a shock, Kenderesi
:30:45. > :30:51.winning it for Hungary. Phelps second. Le Clos third. And the
:30:52. > :30:56.Brazilian that everyone was making such a huge amount of noise for next
:30:57. > :30:59.to us in seventh. Well, that's going to create a fascinating final. It
:31:00. > :31:02.really will because if you look at the qualifiers, Kenderesi goes in
:31:03. > :31:06.fastest. Phelps is second fastest and Chad Le Clos fourth fastest. So
:31:07. > :31:08.that means that in the final, Phelps will be in 5. Chad Le Clos in 6.
:31:09. > :31:18.Game on! Don't let us stop you. You guys were
:31:19. > :31:22.dancing and enjoying the tunes there. So were you Helen Skelton.
:31:23. > :31:28.There's the Olympic Games here in Brazil. And 3:30 in the morning back
:31:29. > :31:32.home! Not here. Chad Le Clos and Michael Phelps. Ding, ding. The most
:31:33. > :31:35.fascinating contest in the Olympics but it's not just going to be their
:31:36. > :31:40.party. Having seen the two semifinals. Who else in the mix?
:31:41. > :31:44.Kenderesi threw himself in there and I guarantee that he has a poster of
:31:45. > :31:48.Laszlo Cseh on his wall, because they're both from Hungary. I don't
:31:49. > :31:51.mean that in a weird way. And he's 11 years younger than him. So he's
:31:52. > :31:56.probably chasing his God, if you like. You've got those two side by
:31:57. > :31:59.side in 3 and 4 and then Phelps and Chad in five and six that's what
:32:00. > :32:04.happened in the Olympic Games and those two side by side and it will
:32:05. > :32:07.be a hum danger. Any of those four but Chad with a little bit more
:32:08. > :32:12.rest... Swimming the 200 free before the 200 fly is hard work. It's rays
:32:13. > :32:15.like this that make swimming so entertaining to non-swimming fans,
:32:16. > :32:19.because there's so much going on out of the water. Just cast your mind
:32:20. > :32:22.back to the call room. The mind games going on and the show boating
:32:23. > :32:27.going on. Chad is an entertaining guy to watch before he even gets in
:32:28. > :32:32.the pool. Even the families are the total opposite. They're cheering and
:32:33. > :32:38.yelling. Phelps' clan - cool as cucumbers. Just like, yeah, come on.
:32:39. > :32:42.Making sure that Boomer is asleep. The thing is though, if you're in
:32:43. > :32:46.Team Phelps, he's in there so often. He's got so many gold medals that
:32:47. > :32:48.you're probably just like - well, whatever happens, does it really
:32:49. > :32:51.matter? I think that the interesting thing tore him is that when you look
:32:52. > :32:56.at the last Olympic Games, he was ahead and he got caught by Chad.
:32:57. > :33:00.That race then, he was ahead and he got caught by Kenderesi. So the
:33:01. > :33:04.thing is - his plan is to go out and hold on and the others are all going
:33:05. > :33:08.to come back on him. That's what is going to happen tomorrow evening and
:33:09. > :33:13.that's how it will play out unless he changes tactic. They swim very
:33:14. > :33:16.different races, don't they? Laszlo, you're fascinated by the way and the
:33:17. > :33:20.height there. It is long and a long range stroke. A lot of people say
:33:21. > :33:23.that he comes up too high but he kind of dives forward with the
:33:24. > :33:27.stroke and others are flatter on the surface of the water. One is not
:33:28. > :33:30.right and one is not wrong but different styles. We always
:33:31. > :33:33.maintain, it doesn't matter what you look like on the surface but what
:33:34. > :33:41.you're doing underneath the water there. Why doesn't he wear a hat? So
:33:42. > :33:45.much emphasis is made on the tiny bits of facial hair and what it is
:33:46. > :33:48.there? He's never worn a hat. And that's just like saying that someone
:33:49. > :33:51.likes to wear headphones and listen to that before they come out. Every
:33:52. > :33:54.athlete is different and it makes him more... I don't know, he just
:33:55. > :34:00.doesn't like it. We were talking earlier. Sticking with hats and
:34:01. > :34:04.hair, the women have such long hair and so much hair, Siobhan Marie
:34:05. > :34:07.O'Connor who we're going to see in the pool very shortly, I said to
:34:08. > :34:13.her... Get it cut off? No, she looks pretty. Leave her alone. Leave her
:34:14. > :34:17.alone. She's got like a speed cone going on. No, it's fine. If it's
:34:18. > :34:22.shorter, it's a lot more awkward to tuck up. A lot of times when the
:34:23. > :34:26.girls are swimming along, it is bobbing and lifting it up more.
:34:27. > :34:31.That's why a lot of people won't be able to see it. A lot of people wear
:34:32. > :34:34.two hats. One to tuck your hair in and then the goggles and then
:34:35. > :34:38.another hat over the top that we call a bullet cap so it is super
:34:39. > :34:41.smooth and smooths out all of the bump that is you p don't have with
:34:42. > :34:46.all of the hair there. The Americans are smooth as anything this evening.
:34:47. > :34:51.We're going to see lots of stars and stripes. Please talk us through the
:34:52. > :35:03.medal ceremony for the men's 100 metre backstroke.
:35:04. > :35:07.David Plummer the 30-year-old from the USA got his after coming third
:35:08. > :35:16.and fourth so many times. But what a surprise this is. Fourth at the
:35:17. > :35:25.World Championships Jhu from China. Brilliant here on the 100 metres
:35:26. > :35:29.backstroke. 52.31. Nine one hundredths of a second behind the
:35:30. > :35:34.bronze medallist, David Plummer. And China had a great night. Gold on the
:35:35. > :35:38.200 metre free. Bronze tied on the women's 100 back and a silver here.
:35:39. > :35:42.Gold, silver bronze, I don't think that they would have imagined that
:35:43. > :35:47.they'd come out with that. Great, and this young man had a brilliant
:35:48. > :35:54.swim. Fourth equal at the turn and came through with the silver medal.
:35:55. > :35:58.Protecting the legacy, if you like of the Americans is 199 since then
:35:59. > :36:04.they've not lost this particular final. The sixth straight Olympic
:36:05. > :36:17.title for the 100 metres backstroke in a row for Team USA. Jeff Rouse in
:36:18. > :36:22.2000. Now Ryan Murphy of the USA continues the streak. Six in a row
:36:23. > :36:27.for USA. And in the end, he very nearly broke the world record. That
:36:28. > :36:38.world record held by Arnold Pearsol. 51.94. Ryan Murphy's time, 51.97.
:36:39. > :36:54.The new Olympic record, Olympic gold to Ryan Murphy of the USA.
:36:55. > :37:56.(National anthem of the United States of America plays)
:37:57. > :38:07.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Olympic champion, men's 100 metre
:38:08. > :38:12.backstroke, Ryan Murphy of the USA continuing that fantastic streak of
:38:13. > :38:16.the USA. Six in a row now. Silver medal to Xu of China. Big surprise
:38:17. > :38:21.that, fourth at the worlds and now silver here in Rio. And delighted
:38:22. > :38:24.for 30-year-old David Plummer, finally gets his chance at Olympic
:38:25. > :38:31.Games and at 30 years of age, he wins a bronze.
:38:32. > :38:39.Congratulations, Ryan Murphy. First Olympic Games, first Olympic gold
:38:40. > :38:42.medal at 21 years of age. And while we were listening to the American
:38:43. > :38:48.national anthem, Sharon was speaking to a South African who has had a
:38:49. > :38:51.very successful night in the pool. Playing the mind games, what is
:38:52. > :38:57.going on in the call room? Nothing, I'm here to race. I'm here to rails
:38:58. > :39:01.the best. You're such a fibber! It is what it is. Is that part of your
:39:02. > :39:06.strategy. Because it is a different place. It's so much fun watching you
:39:07. > :39:09.now from four years ago when you were the young guy. We now have
:39:10. > :39:13.another young guy snapping at the heels as well? Absolutely. It will
:39:14. > :39:17.be a great night. I can't say too much about tomorrow. It is a huge
:39:18. > :39:20.opportunity for me and the other our or five or six guys in the final.
:39:21. > :39:23.Yeah, I just want to do my family proud. That's what I'm here to do.
:39:24. > :39:28.Talking about the family. How are they? It's been hard. It's been
:39:29. > :39:32.definitely easier in the last few years, but I swim for them and I
:39:33. > :39:35.swim for my supporters. There's an amazing documentary out and we
:39:36. > :39:40.watched it a lot in the UK. You must be very proud of that? Thank you, he
:39:41. > :39:44.am proud. Thank you to Jamie Cunningham for doing that and Sir
:39:45. > :39:48.Matthew. And well done in the 200 as well. What possessed you to go out
:39:49. > :39:52.so fast? I wanted to take it out hard and see if I could hang on. See
:39:53. > :39:57.what happens! All right, we'll see you tomorrow.
:39:58. > :40:02.Of course, Chad Le Clos referring to the fact that both of his parents,
:40:03. > :40:06.Bert, who of course, was catapulted to international fame after that
:40:07. > :40:12.Olympic victory back in 2012, has got prostate cancer and his mum has
:40:13. > :40:14.got breast cancer and she's had a double mastectomy, so a very
:40:15. > :40:18.difficult situation for Chad and he's clearly very, very proud and
:40:19. > :40:22.very close to them. And his family are very proud of him and rightly
:40:23. > :40:28.so. Fact young man in and out of the pool. Definitely, his family are so
:40:29. > :40:31.lovely. Bert walked past earlier and came over and said hello. They're so
:40:32. > :40:34.passionate about the sport and you can see that from right back in
:40:35. > :40:37.London and all the way through, just how much they love Chad as well. I
:40:38. > :40:42.love seeing proud parents like that and just so much emotion. They swim
:40:43. > :40:45.it with him, pretty much. Do you feel differently about your Olympic
:40:46. > :40:48.medals and what you did in the pool now that you're a parent? Do you
:40:49. > :40:52.know what you put your parents through? Yes, and I always thanked
:40:53. > :40:58.my parents and I always have done. I've always been one of those
:40:59. > :41:01.athletes. I very much appreciate what my family sacrificed, not just
:41:02. > :41:05.my parents but even my sisters and everyone were fantastic. But's what
:41:06. > :41:08.makes swimming so fantastic. It's all about the families. Even when
:41:09. > :41:12.you look around here and Phelps's family and Chad's family and all of
:41:13. > :41:16.the Murphies are down there. Adam Peaty's family last night. And it's
:41:17. > :41:19.so lovely. Because it is a unit together and I say that my dad wears
:41:20. > :41:22.my mdallies more than I do, and he does to be honest. He takes them to
:41:23. > :41:27.work under his suit. No! No, we joke. I don't think that he does.
:41:28. > :41:32.Well, he might. That would be pretty cool. But that's what it is all
:41:33. > :41:36.about. The getting up at 5:00am. You can't drive until you're 17 so
:41:37. > :41:39.there's a long time in swimming. Your mum could watch, couldn't she!
:41:40. > :41:44.You once said that your mum couldn't watch because she got so nervous? I
:41:45. > :41:47.didn't find this out until I was about 30. She came all the way to
:41:48. > :41:52.Australia for the Olympic Games in 2000 and after the race, I found out
:41:53. > :41:57.from a friend who was sat with her and she said, "you do know that your
:41:58. > :42:02.mum doesn't watch, don't you?". Why go all that way. Because as a kid,
:42:03. > :42:05.occasionally I did a false start and mum thought that by watching me, it
:42:06. > :42:09.would happen. And she would only start halfway down the length and my
:42:10. > :42:15.length is 20 seconds so she flew all the way to Australia for 10 seconds.
:42:16. > :42:18.But it is like Becky says, what you don't see and it is wonderful to see
:42:19. > :42:22.that raw emotion from the athlete and the parents themselves and how
:42:23. > :42:26.much they give up and sacrifice for themselves. We only ever see, people
:42:27. > :42:32.here only get to see what goes on in the TV. Is hours and hours that
:42:33. > :42:35.people put in the pool and the sacrificing and training. It's
:42:36. > :42:40.normal life to us because it's what we do but outside, you make a lot of
:42:41. > :42:44.sacrifices to hopefully fulfil your dream. Pre-2012, I spoke to Siobhan
:42:45. > :42:47.Marie O'Connor's parents and her mum said the same thing. She wasn't able
:42:48. > :42:50.to watch and she used to sit with her handbag and put her head in her
:42:51. > :42:54.handbag and I said, please don't do that at the Olympics. If they put a
:42:55. > :42:58.camera on you, people will think that you're throwing up. My mum used
:42:59. > :43:04.to say - hell me when it's halfway and then look around. Obviously
:43:05. > :43:07.Hannah in this as well. And her family sacrificed so much. But
:43:08. > :43:11.Siobhan, her family are so close. She loves being at home. She went to
:43:12. > :43:14.Australia earlier in the year to train for seven weeks and she hated
:43:15. > :43:18.being away from home and she really misses it and gets so homesick. She
:43:19. > :43:20.still lives with her parents and they're very, very close there. And
:43:21. > :43:25.she's just so grateful that they're out here also. The whole team seems
:43:26. > :43:28.like such a great family unit. We saw Adam Peaty last night. He won
:43:29. > :43:31.the gold medal and he was supposed to do interviews but he took the
:43:32. > :43:35.opportunity to pace up and down the side, encouraging Jazz Carlin and
:43:36. > :43:39.helping her. It seemed like a really good team but as you said, Siobhan
:43:40. > :43:42.Marie O'Connor is coming up in the semifinal. Let's have a look and the
:43:43. > :43:47.reminder of the achievements in the last few years. A very, very
:43:48. > :43:51.impressive young woman, isn't she! She came on to the scene at London
:43:52. > :43:53.2012. Not even in the favourite event. It wasn't her favourite so
:43:54. > :43:57.she came back and scrapped her way on to the team. She necessary in a
:43:58. > :44:01.very different position now, isn't she? She's grown up so much. Even
:44:02. > :44:05.with the 200 metre individual medley. She used to, tactic-wise,
:44:06. > :44:08.not swim the best races. Just goes out for it and hangs on and she's
:44:09. > :44:12.really grown up and matured with how she approaches the race as well and
:44:13. > :44:15.especially when you have got someone like Hosszu in your event, it is
:44:16. > :44:19.difficult because you know that she is going to be out in front. But
:44:20. > :44:23.Siobhan was a clear second this morning. She'll be wanting to post
:44:24. > :44:26.another good time tonight. The first evening swim of the whole
:44:27. > :44:29.competition so she'll be wanting to see how she can back it up.
:44:30. > :44:32.Obviously she is in the first semifinal also so she is going to be
:44:33. > :44:39.wanting a fast enough time to be able to make it through to that
:44:40. > :44:43.final. Well, let's see our British girls in action, Hannah Miley and
:44:44. > :44:49.Siobhan Marie O'Connor. Over to you. Thank you, we just missed Hannah
:44:50. > :44:57.Miley of Great Britain in 7 seven. Just fourth in the 400 metre medley.
:44:58. > :45:10.Very nearly won the bronze. Just got overtaken there.
:45:11. > :45:18.Now, Alicia Coutts in 3 for Australia. Alicia Coutts, the
:45:19. > :45:24.Commonwealth champion in Delhi. Five times, five gold medals. At 8, Maya
:45:25. > :45:27.Dirado, second fastest. She's going to push Siobhan Marie O'Connor but
:45:28. > :45:31.didn't Siobhan Marie O'Connor swim well in the heats? She looks
:45:32. > :45:37.fantastic. A clear second place there. And I don't know, tomorrow,
:45:38. > :45:43.to push Hosszu. There will be another couple of races of energy
:45:44. > :45:47.out of the tank and there will be Hosszu and Siobhan Marie, silver - I
:45:48. > :45:51.think that she will push for gold. But the question is - it's a real
:45:52. > :45:54.balancing act. She swims her own tactics and we had our conversation
:45:55. > :45:58.about that. If she swims her own race, I think odds on for the
:45:59. > :46:02.silver. But if she adjusts it a bit and goes out hard and pushes Hosszu,
:46:03. > :46:08.she could be brave tomorrow. But it might cost her the silver to bronze.
:46:09. > :46:13.That's my... Does that make sense? It does. And Siobhan Marie O'Connor
:46:14. > :46:21.in the centre there. The Commonwealth silver medal in the 100
:46:22. > :46:26.metre fly. British record holder in the 100 metre breaststroke. So
:46:27. > :46:32.Siobhan Marie O'Connor of Great Britain in 4. Hannah Miley down
:46:33. > :46:35.closer there from Great Britain. On the left-hand side as you look at
:46:36. > :46:38.the shot but a very good start there. She's a great starter,
:46:39. > :46:43.Siobhan Marie O'Connor. Absolutely. And we've got Alicia Coutts going
:46:44. > :46:47.with her, which is not surprising. A good fly simmer with the yellow cap
:46:48. > :46:51.of sophral Australia. But Siobhan asserting herself in this race. Look
:46:52. > :46:57.at the first 50 metres. Great to see and a real marker put down. 0.26 off
:46:58. > :47:01.the world record but fantastic first 50 metres from Condon. There's
:47:02. > :47:04.something that she can practice for the final. She didn't quite spot the
:47:05. > :47:07.wall and did a choppy stroke and lost a lot of the momentum going
:47:08. > :47:11.into the wall. This is the bit that I think she's going to struggle
:47:12. > :47:17.with, for Hosszu. Hosszu has just won the gold medal on the 100 metres
:47:18. > :47:20.break stroke at this Olympic Games so she's a brilliant backstroker
:47:21. > :47:25.Siobhan. Yeah, been working on the arms there. And trying to enter the
:47:26. > :47:30.water with the hands closer together. Good flip around. Dirado
:47:31. > :47:34.came back strong lip on the backstroke. Teleshe is,
:47:35. > :47:39.head-to-head. They've left Coutts behind. And it's O'Connor, the
:47:40. > :47:44.British holder for the 100 metres breaststroke to stretch more of a
:47:45. > :47:48.lead. Make that to count now. This is really exciting, I love
:47:49. > :47:52.watching the breaststroke and a little bit of a surprise there,
:47:53. > :47:56.broke the British record on the 100 metre breaststroke up in Edinburgh a
:47:57. > :47:59.couple of months ago and goodness me, she looks fantastic on this
:48:00. > :48:03.breaststroke. Let's not forget Hannah Miley there two from the
:48:04. > :48:07.bottom there. Good breaststroke there but only moving there. So
:48:08. > :48:12.she's out of it. But Siobhan Marie O'Connor has taken it there. Will be
:48:13. > :48:17.the fastest from this particular semifinal by a good old body length.
:48:18. > :48:20.She's seven tenths of a second ahead of her own British record. Really
:48:21. > :48:24.strong right now and going to the legs. Working again on the freestyle
:48:25. > :48:27.kick. A real strength of hers now and she'll need this in the final
:48:28. > :48:30.tomorrow. But a brilliant victory in the semifinal.
:48:31. > :48:38.Well, Siobhan Marie O'Connor is going to break the British record
:48:39. > :48:44.I'm sure. 2.07.57. And she's broken the British record by 7 tenths of a
:48:45. > :48:50.second. Goodness me. 2.07.5. That's a wonderful swim. Only 0.1 off the
:48:51. > :48:55.Olympic record. The Olympic record let's not forget is that anyone
:48:56. > :49:00.swimming in any Olympics whatsoever and just 0.1 seconds off that. Which
:49:01. > :49:16.was set by Hosszu. Sorry, Wen in London. Back in 2012. Hosszu, this
:49:17. > :49:20.year on 2:73 in the heats heats and a 2:4:45. The breaststroke leg there
:49:21. > :49:25.very good indeed. Interesting straight arm freestyle. She got a
:49:26. > :49:29.silver medal the at the Commonwealth Games in the 200 heater free and
:49:30. > :49:33.missed the 200 metre medley and understands the feeling inside the
:49:34. > :49:39.last 50 metre and look at that. She's delighted and so she should
:49:40. > :49:41.be. It was Hosszu who set the Olympic record there, just to
:49:42. > :49:45.correct that. In the heats this morning so let's see what she can
:49:46. > :49:48.deliver tonight. She'll have to get close to that but a brilliant
:49:49. > :49:53.result. So Siobhan Marie O'Connor winning the first semifinal of the
:49:54. > :50:02.women's 200 medley. Very good time and a new British record. Miley in
:50:03. > :50:04.seventh. Sixth even. Huge congratulations to Siobhan
:50:05. > :50:09.Marie O'Connor. New British record. She looked pretty happy with that
:50:10. > :50:13.and rightly so. Fantastic race. I love watching Siobhan race. Just her
:50:14. > :50:17.skills. Even though she didn't quite spot her butter nri to backstroke
:50:18. > :50:21.turn there but everything else, butterfly and the breaststroke is
:50:22. > :50:24.wonderful. I do worry about the backstroke leg because that is where
:50:25. > :50:27.Hosszu is strong. Tomorrow night will be interesting to see whether
:50:28. > :50:31.Siobhan can actually keep up with her or whether she's just going to
:50:32. > :50:34.swim her own race but if she does that, she'll be coming home with the
:50:35. > :50:38.silver medal. She's acknowledged the weaker strengths and worked on it.
:50:39. > :50:43.How important are the tactics here? You need four good strokes but the
:50:44. > :50:45.bottom line is that Hosszu is an unbelievably strong backstroker. She
:50:46. > :50:49.has to watch out for that leg tomorrow night but I think that she
:50:50. > :50:52.can have a go. Let's hear from her because Siobhan is with Sharon.
:50:53. > :50:58.Fantastic swim. British record. You look very pleased. Yeah, I really
:50:59. > :51:01.wanted to crack that 2:08 for a while so I didn't think that I was
:51:02. > :51:06.going to go that quick tonight and Dave said - try to repeat what you
:51:07. > :51:09.did this morning. But I just thought it was really good. I'm really
:51:10. > :51:13.pleased that time. I've really wanted to get that time for a long
:51:14. > :51:15.time. I noticed that you made sure that you spotted your parents and
:51:16. > :51:22.said hello to family as you came out. That's obviously important to
:51:23. > :51:26.you? Yeah, yeah. But... I thought that the... Waving away. I saw the
:51:27. > :51:31.team but I didn't see my mum and dad. I thought that they'd be
:51:32. > :51:35.somewhere there. They're definitely here which means a lot. It was so
:51:36. > :51:38.good. I got to see them the other day and it means that everything is
:51:39. > :51:41.here and it was so nice to know that they're not that far away. And when
:51:42. > :51:44.I need them there, they're right there. The guys are saying that
:51:45. > :51:49.you're going to have to take her on, which means that it is kind of your
:51:50. > :51:51.backstroke versus, well, her backstroke versus your breaststroke
:51:52. > :51:57.and your breaststroke is looking so fast now? Yeah, I mean, you know,
:51:58. > :52:01.she's dominated the md medley events for so long and I'll definitely give
:52:02. > :52:06.her a rails but I need to stick to my own race plan and she has such a
:52:07. > :52:09.strong backstroke. I've worked on the backstroke and the breaststroke
:52:10. > :52:12.this year. The backstroke is nowhere near as hers but the breaststroke
:52:13. > :52:15.has come on leaps and bounds and that's helped the medley and I hope
:52:16. > :52:24.that I can give her a good race tomorrow. All the best for tomorrow.
:52:25. > :52:30.Thank you, cheers. So there is Hosszu. That was
:52:31. > :52:37.actually... From Hungary, the team-mate up in line 2, Jakabos. But
:52:38. > :52:42.Hosszu in 4. Margalis of the USA in 5. It will be interesting to see.
:52:43. > :52:46.She's just won the 100 metres Olympic Games back. Is she going to
:52:47. > :52:51.push this or just get through to the final? Last off the blocks. She
:52:52. > :53:00.absolutely got left on the blocks, Hosszu in the centre there. That was
:53:01. > :53:07.interesting. But up until about second place. Margalis there. Had an
:53:08. > :53:11.impressive swim. She's from Georgia. But Hosszu is strong. She's tough.
:53:12. > :53:16.She's used to swimming a number of races but the emotions and the
:53:17. > :53:19.pressure that comes with an Olympic final having done the 100 metre
:53:20. > :53:22.break stroke could have taken something out of her. And this is
:53:23. > :53:29.the backstroke leg. She's in the left of the lel owe p lanes with the
:53:30. > :53:35.white cap on but in lane 1, going well is Weng of Germany. She was
:53:36. > :53:37.going well but she's not a backstroker and Hosszu is the new
:53:38. > :53:43.Olympic champion and doesn't it show. She's like a machine. Boom,
:53:44. > :53:48.boom, boom. Does not stop. Breathes every time one of her arms goes
:53:49. > :53:53.over. Didn't quite spot which one but doesn't breathe every arm. Well,
:53:54. > :53:57.one big kick and then maybe a little wriggle there. The little wriggle
:53:58. > :54:01.isn't allowed, Katingk. Slap on the wrist. Well, you're right. Siobhan
:54:02. > :54:05.tomorrow in the final will have to watch it on the backstroke and she
:54:06. > :54:12.needs to be close. And work extremely hard in this. Hosszu still
:54:13. > :54:16.working hard. And down in lane six is Wen of China having a much better
:54:17. > :54:20.swim on the 200 metre medley hand than in the 400. Let's see what
:54:21. > :54:26.happens there. Closing the gap there a little bit on ho hos. Let's see
:54:27. > :54:34.the turn. Two seconds down. Well, this is interesting. She's going to
:54:35. > :54:37.be close. At 20:08 I think. Hosszu turned exactly one second slower
:54:38. > :54:43.than Siobhan Marie O'Connor did at the 150 metre mark and the first
:54:44. > :54:50.heat of the medley. She's a very strong freestyler Hosszu hos and
:54:51. > :54:55.Siobhan's time was 2:07:57. Let's see how she does. She was a second
:54:56. > :54:57.down and this will be very interesting indeed. Siobhan Marie
:54:58. > :55:02.O'Connor is going to go into the final tomorrow night fastest.
:55:03. > :55:10.Goodness me. So Hosszu wins the second semifinal of the women's 200
:55:11. > :55:18.metre medley. Shiwen the defending champion. How can you go 4:45 for
:55:19. > :55:25.the 400 and 2:09 for the 200. Very strange there. She's had an Olympic
:55:26. > :55:29.final tonight. Got a gold medal. And she's just done enough there to
:55:30. > :55:32.qualify in second place. But there was a little bit of talk earlier
:55:33. > :55:38.this morning about Siobhan Marie O'Connor, great second place. She's
:55:39. > :55:41.in second place, she can maybe get a second place Hosszu but I think that
:55:42. > :55:45.she can win it tomorrow night. If you're out there, stay up. Tomorrow
:55:46. > :55:48.night, get up and set the alarm because I think that Siobhan Marie
:55:49. > :55:59.O'Connor is going to have a chance of beating his wife! His wife, her
:56:00. > :56:02.husband and coach. Shane toss-up. Well, she he is's had a tough
:56:03. > :56:07.session. Can't take it away from her. She's had a big old session.
:56:08. > :56:13.Qualifying now into second place for the final. And she'll have more to
:56:14. > :56:19.come tomorrow. And so will the British swimmer. So Hosszu wins the
:56:20. > :56:23.second semifinal of the women's 200 metre medley by means that Ye Shiwen
:56:24. > :56:32.in there. And Siobhan Marie O'Connor will go into the final fastest.
:56:33. > :56:35.How exciting is that. So Siobhan Marie O'Connor of Great Britain gets
:56:36. > :56:40.a fabulous centre lane. Lane 4 for the final tomorrow night at the
:56:41. > :56:46.women's 200 metres individual medley. Hosszu second. Dirado third
:56:47. > :56:52.and the defending champion goes in fourth fastest.
:56:53. > :56:56.That is a massive call there, Siobhan Marie O'Connor could beat
:56:57. > :57:01.Hosszu who is so dominant but Siobhan Marie O'Connor will go into
:57:02. > :57:04.that with confidence. It's possible. And 2.7.45 is a world booting time.
:57:05. > :57:07.She could become Olympic champion on the back of that. Hosszu had a
:57:08. > :57:11.dilemma tomorrow. She's got the 200 metre fly. The 200 fly heats in the
:57:12. > :57:14.morning and the 200 semis in the evening which is about an hour
:57:15. > :57:19.before the 200 metre medley. Now, if she's the Iron Lady, she'll try to
:57:20. > :57:22.do both. But I have a feeling on the back of that, I think that Siobhan
:57:23. > :57:25.Marie O'Connor could put a shot across the bow and I think that
:57:26. > :57:28.she'll pull out of that tomorrow. Even if she was not swimming it,
:57:29. > :57:32.Siobhan has a big shout. Like the guys say - gamble on it. Almost like
:57:33. > :57:36.the silver is guaranteed at the moment so have a shot at her and go
:57:37. > :57:40.at it and see if she can respond. This is the stage, if you're going
:57:41. > :57:44.to put everything out there, this is the place to do it? Definitely. For
:57:45. > :57:47.her, it would be amazing to get that gold medal and the thing with her is
:57:48. > :57:51.that she's looked fantastic. Even that swim there was a huge British
:57:52. > :57:55.record and a personal best time for her. Just looks so controlled and so
:57:56. > :57:58.smooth. I personally think that she had more left to give on the
:57:59. > :58:01.freestyle leg and I think that she can challenge her. I think that it
:58:02. > :58:04.is so tough against someone like Hosszu who has the experience and
:58:05. > :58:07.who is so good at everything but like I say, it will be interesting
:58:08. > :58:10.to see whether she pulls out of the 200 metre butter fly. It was
:58:11. > :58:15.interesting to see the body language there with Sharon. She looks like
:58:16. > :58:18.there's more to give and didn't look that tired. Hannah Miley is
:58:19. > :58:21.celebrating her birthday with a semifinal place but no place into
:58:22. > :58:24.the final but she'll be happy with that and she seemed like she was
:58:25. > :58:29.enjoying herself. So good times for Hannah Miley. Unfortunately for
:58:30. > :58:33.James Guy, no medal for him. He missed out on it with fourth place
:58:34. > :58:36.but don't jet it be said that the swimming is is a dull place. There's
:58:37. > :58:39.been dancing in here which is unbelievable. If you've had a dull
:58:40. > :58:43.day, have a look at this chap. I think thaf he will make you smile.
:58:44. > :58:46.He hasn't got the Monday blues! It's Monday in Brazil, everyone. It's the
:58:47. > :58:51.Olympics and he's having a ball. The thing is, I saw him and he thought
:58:52. > :58:55.of you, Jason! Thank you very much Helen Skelton, you cheeky risk kal.
:58:56. > :58:59.I'm a child of the 70s and 80s and I'll show you the break dancing one
:59:00. > :59:03.evening. Before we leave you, let's bring you some news from the world
:59:04. > :59:08.of gymnastics because the Dutch gymnast Van Gelder has been kicked
