:00:21. > :00:26.Welcome back to live coverage of the real Olympics here on BBC One. We

:00:27. > :00:38.are at the Maria Kirilenko Aquatics Centre for the ten-metre synchro. We

:00:39. > :00:40.will be seeing the third dive of Daley and Goodfellow. Let's rejoin

:00:41. > :00:50.our commentary team. To the Chinese, leaders after round

:00:51. > :00:54.one and round two. They are going with the reversed 3.5 somersaults

:00:55. > :00:59.with Tara, 3.4 degrees of difficulty.

:01:00. > :01:12.Spectacular! Is this their weakest dive? If there is a weakness in

:01:13. > :01:23.their armour, they are not showing it. Lin tipped his head to the side

:01:24. > :01:27.but it works for him. He has always had that slight idiosyncrasy and

:01:28. > :01:31.this is spot-on from the Chinese. They were catapulted themselves even

:01:32. > :01:36.further into the lead. They will be the first pair to score over 90

:01:37. > :01:42.points, and this is the easiest to dive, would you believe. I've a

:01:43. > :01:50.bullet-proof? Let's wait and see. Yes, you can say that because it

:01:51. > :01:53.isn't halfway yet. 92.82 lays down a significant market giving them a 16

:01:54. > :02:00.point advantage at the halfway stage at the moment. We still have Tom

:02:01. > :02:13.Daley and Daniel Goodfellow to go. They've gone for 3.2 difficulty.

:02:14. > :02:19.Can the British pair find themselves in third place? This is where it

:02:20. > :02:25.gets more complicated and intricate. And where things can go either very

:02:26. > :02:33.well or quite badly. Inward somersault with tuck. Yes, let's go,

:02:34. > :02:40.boys, well done. It was much better in training the other day. Just a

:02:41. > :02:44.little bit of splash coming up from both Daniel Goodfellow and Tom

:02:45. > :02:47.Daley. The synchronisation is good. They always have marginally

:02:48. > :02:53.different spin speeds but they hit the water the same time. Maybe

:02:54. > :02:58.Goodfellow hiking too soon and the judges might penalising them for

:02:59. > :03:03.that. Will they get close to 80 points? This is their lowest degree

:03:04. > :03:08.of difficulty at 3.2. It is just under 80 points. They are still in

:03:09. > :03:19.medal contention. Write on it and into third place they go on their

:03:20. > :03:27.own. A relatively new combination working all right Chen and Lin lead.

:03:28. > :03:34.Johnson and Boudia and second, Daley and Goodfellow just ahead of Garcia

:03:35. > :03:39.and Sanchez, who are just ahead of Shleikher and Minibaev, who are just

:03:40. > :03:42.ahead of Dolhov and Gorshkovozov. It isn't as high-scoring as I was

:03:43. > :03:48.expecting it potentially to be and we can look at the conditions, it's

:03:49. > :03:53.cold, windy, it's outdoors, the sun has gone down, the president of IOC

:03:54. > :03:58.is in here, and all the other factors that could be influencing.

:03:59. > :04:03.Anyway, that is three rounds done and we are halfway through. However,

:04:04. > :04:08.this is the lion's share of the points available in the last four

:04:09. > :04:12.rounds of dives because of the optional rounds of dives. We will

:04:13. > :04:20.see even more difficult dives coming through now. To give you an example,

:04:21. > :04:25.here we go. This is a dive everybody but two pairs all do it at some

:04:26. > :04:34.point. And it is a make or break dive, in many ways. Forward for

:04:35. > :04:38.somersaults. Forward 4.5 somersaults with tuck, count them on the way

:04:39. > :04:58.down. They've made a bit of a fudge of

:04:59. > :05:03.that one. 3.7 degrees of difficulty. The reason is it so challenging and

:05:04. > :05:10.difficult and the Russian pair here making a bit of a mess of that one.

:05:11. > :05:16.Both divers... Who is that closest to me? Minibaev lost his legs as he

:05:17. > :05:21.went in, almost splitting. So they're going to get low execution

:05:22. > :05:29.marks. Synchronisation will be fair to middling at best, and that is a

:05:30. > :05:36.very low scoring dive. 4.5 for the execution. That is a big dagger to

:05:37. > :05:41.the hard and we will have to see how the rest perform. The vagaries of

:05:42. > :05:46.the outdoor conditions might have an impact on that. That is not a school

:05:47. > :05:53.the Russians were looking for at all. Now, we come down just a notch

:05:54. > :05:58.to 3.6, and we're going backwards, not forwards this time, 3.5

:05:59. > :06:11.somersault is for the Germans, and this is one of the dives they

:06:12. > :06:15.normally do to order. They have certainly woken up. They were not

:06:16. > :06:21.happy with round three, which is normally very solid. This is a dive

:06:22. > :06:24.I've seen them make a mess of a specially when the pressure is on.

:06:25. > :06:29.They are silver-medallists from Beijing and they are rocking in.

:06:30. > :06:33.This will be over 90 points, it is huge, executed very well by both

:06:34. > :06:41.divers. The synchronisation is bang on. The coach is on his feet. Quite

:06:42. > :06:51.right, too. What's the damage? It's good. 92.8 eight. Best Buy a long

:06:52. > :07:01.way. That was one of the big dives. They've been doing some big dives

:07:02. > :07:07.all the way through. We have a very strange view, we are sideways on.

:07:08. > :07:12.You are seeing the crowd, they are not seeing the Russians, they are

:07:13. > :07:16.not seen the Mexicans either because they are hiding behind some

:07:17. > :07:21.concrete. If you are sideways on, they suddenly appear peekaboo

:07:22. > :07:24.fashion. Here is another forward 4.5. What can the Mexicans do,

:07:25. > :07:34.Garcia and Sanchez? The synchronisation all the way was

:07:35. > :07:39.excellent, just faltering as they entered the water so the execution

:07:40. > :07:43.marks will reflect that. I was holding my breath but they were

:07:44. > :07:49.spot-on all the way through that. They pump up into this forward 4.5.

:07:50. > :07:54.These guys rotate so quickly. Just a little bit off on both of their

:07:55. > :08:03.entries. What will we see here for the execution marks? Garcia on our

:08:04. > :08:07.right, he was short to vertical. Sanchez nailed his, he would get

:08:08. > :08:10.eight on his execution. Because of the difference in angle, the

:08:11. > :08:21.synchronisation won't get to more than eight. 82 to carry. Execution

:08:22. > :08:26.marks aren't brilliant either. They are slipping behind Germany now. So,

:08:27. > :08:29.Germany with that great round for dive have taken ten marks away from

:08:30. > :08:37.Mexico and put themselves in position a. But I haven't taken into

:08:38. > :08:42.account those still to come, including the bronze-medallist from

:08:43. > :08:50.London, Boudia, with the 20-year-old Johnson. Round four, reverse 3.5. I

:08:51. > :08:57.was wondering if they were going to do this. I thought it is going to be

:08:58. > :09:02.a punch-up between three teams for the silver and bronze. And the USA

:09:03. > :09:08.are coming out all guns blazing. That is two out of two for the

:09:09. > :09:16.optional dives. Superb diving from Boudia and Johnson. Well done, this

:09:17. > :09:22.pairing. 3.4 degrees of difficulty. 90 points... Can they get close to

:09:23. > :09:31.90? If they get nines on synchro, they will. No, 85.

:09:32. > :09:42.The marks with lines through don't add to the total. We have 11

:09:43. > :09:50.execution judges. Execution and synchronisation. That's why we end

:09:51. > :09:59.up with 85.684 the pair. Gives them a 9-point lead, still lots of time

:10:00. > :10:07.to go. In with 3.5 somersaults for Dolhov and Gorshkovozov. This is

:10:08. > :10:11.3.2. We have seen higher. That's the best we've seen from the Ukrainian

:10:12. > :10:16.pair. When they get it right, they are able to start putting pressure

:10:17. > :10:27.on everyone else. And that is fabulous diving. 3.5 inward in the

:10:28. > :10:32.tuck position, they are superb in synchronisation, and disappearing

:10:33. > :10:37.into the water, hardly a ripple of splash. Beautiful dives. When you

:10:38. > :10:44.get this low difficulty of dive right, you can get into the low 80s.

:10:45. > :10:57.They are just behind the USA, who lead. Two, three, and four are

:10:58. > :11:02.separated by five points. We still have Brazil, China, and Great

:11:03. > :11:07.Britain to come. So, this competition will change a great

:11:08. > :11:16.deal. A lot of the divers keep their very biggest dives towards the end.

:11:17. > :11:22.We've seen a couple of 3.7s already. These two, a much more scaled-down

:11:23. > :11:28.programme for them because of the capability of Rondinelli and Parisi.

:11:29. > :11:33.In with 3.5 for the Brazilians. They will get an amazing reception,

:11:34. > :11:38.whatever happens. Well, the synchronisation is OK and the

:11:39. > :11:43.execution of the dives is OK. Well, fair to middling, if I'm honest.

:11:44. > :11:47.Both divers throwing up a tonne of splash for different reasons. One

:11:48. > :11:59.wasn't getting his hands and arms locked up. So there are only going

:12:00. > :12:03.to get about six, 6.5. You can see, hitting the water, not locking out

:12:04. > :12:10.and keeping the splashdown. They are being outclassed in this final. The

:12:11. > :12:13.judges are not the most popular people in this arena. The Brazilian

:12:14. > :12:23.fans aren't happy with what they're getting but they are getting the

:12:24. > :12:27.right marks. They are still not cast adrift, they'll still in touch with

:12:28. > :12:37.the Russians, only seven points behind. To our leaders, that very

:12:38. > :12:42.impressive third round, one of their lower tariff dives, and now we get

:12:43. > :12:49.to the bigger stuff for Chen and Lin, world champions last year. Back

:12:50. > :12:56.3.5 somersaults with pike. Are we in the upper 90s for this one? It is

:12:57. > :13:03.still world-class. The synchronisation is spot-on. A little

:13:04. > :13:07.bit short of vertical but they are bang on in synchronisation. We were

:13:08. > :13:12.having a conversation just before we started and I said, OK, have the

:13:13. > :13:18.Chinese got a bogey dive and he said this is the one. I have to agree

:13:19. > :13:23.with him. This is a lowish scoring dive by Chinese standards. Beautiful

:13:24. > :13:31.pike shape, just completely flat on the thighs but they are short of

:13:32. > :13:37.vertical. They can only get tens or sevens. Let's have a look. Go on,

:13:38. > :13:46.judges, show us what you've done. You're right! Eight on the synchro

:13:47. > :13:55.is correct and the judges have done a good job there. China go into

:13:56. > :14:05.first place. 16 points clear of the field. Now, then. Tom and Dan, Daley

:14:06. > :14:11.and Goodfellow. They're going up through the gears now. From the 3.2

:14:12. > :14:26.to 3.4 on this reverse 3.5. Oh, I almost jumped out of my chair.

:14:27. > :14:32.The aerial work was spot-on, the synchronisation was bang on. Just

:14:33. > :14:38.Dan throwing up some splash as he entered the water. You can see the

:14:39. > :14:44.splash coming up, you can hear the frustration my voice. The boys were

:14:45. > :14:49.on. The synchronisation will be affected by Daniel Goodfellow not

:14:50. > :14:57.keeping the splashdown. So, the three execution marks for Goodfellow

:14:58. > :15:02.R 7.5. Tom Daley gets 8.5 and nine. 81 points is still good so they are

:15:03. > :15:08.still in this fight, and that is exactly what it is, a fight. We will

:15:09. > :15:12.see how big the fighters and how big the size of the dog is when we see

:15:13. > :15:20.the end tally for round four. It looks like this. China have an

:15:21. > :15:26.appreciable lead over the USA. Germany have moved up into third.

:15:27. > :15:32.Mexico, Great Britain and Ukraine are in there. Russia are possibly

:15:33. > :15:44.too far away. And Brazil, you get the numbers.

:15:45. > :15:49.A lot of studious looking faces, thoughts going in as to what is to

:15:50. > :16:03.come. Great Britain will finish with 3.7,

:16:04. > :16:09.four and a half somersaults forward, and 3.6 in the end, so big tariffs

:16:10. > :16:14.for everybody with the exception of the Brazilians, everyone goes for

:16:15. > :16:23.broke. This is round five. The moving round. They can put down

:16:24. > :16:27.their little claims for a medal. Because nobody really has broken

:16:28. > :16:35.away after the Chinese, everyone else grouped together. Russia, back

:16:36. > :16:42.three and a half with pike. Much better from the Russians. They will

:16:43. > :16:49.have been happy with their four, four and a half turn, this is almost

:16:50. > :16:55.an equal degree of Dick difficulty. We saw the Germans buried there. It

:16:56. > :16:58.looked like a bit of carnival in training, everything going on at

:16:59. > :17:03.different times. But the Russians got it together this time. They will

:17:04. > :17:14.be just shy of 90 points if the judges give them a .5 on Synchro,

:17:15. > :17:22.which I think they will. -- 8.5. Nikita Shleikher and Victor Minibaev

:17:23. > :17:26.talking to their coach. He never seems overly excited by what is

:17:27. > :17:32.going on. There will be a few points and observations to pass on. That is

:17:33. > :17:38.a good mark for the Russians, by far their highest so far. Now it is the

:17:39. > :17:45.Germans, a little bit of a head of steam up from the last round. But it

:17:46. > :17:52.is all go again on the reverse. This is not a big tariff dive. You say

:17:53. > :17:58.that but I beg to differ. 3.4 is still huge. We are still right up

:17:59. > :18:03.there in the most complicated dives possible and every pair has to cover

:18:04. > :18:07.all six groups. This is the reverse. You need to jump away from the

:18:08. > :18:11.diving board and spin back towards it. The Germans will get mid-80s on

:18:12. > :18:17.this and they will be cementing their position right in the medals

:18:18. > :18:21.at the end of this round five. No wonder the coaches are happy, the

:18:22. > :18:30.head coach punching the air. The Germans are on it. Cementing their

:18:31. > :18:39.middle order recovery. Good succession marks.

:18:40. > :18:53.Puts them at the head of the field for the time being. Remember these

:18:54. > :19:01.boys, on the biggest dive of all. This is a relatively comfortable

:19:02. > :19:05.dive. 3.7, 3.8, but this is not too shabby. They are all big tariff

:19:06. > :19:13.dyes! All of them, they are all incredibly difficult. 3.3 for Garcia

:19:14. > :19:21.and Sanchez, the Mexicans. The Mexicans are still in there. Bravery

:19:22. > :19:26.under this mounting pressure. Dive after dive, the Mexicans playing it

:19:27. > :19:31.a little safe. Not using their inward four and a half. This is the

:19:32. > :19:37.easiest dive at 3.3 and it is not easy. They are playing at the little

:19:38. > :19:42.safe. Have they played it too safe? I don't believe they will get over

:19:43. > :19:45.80 points on this. They will have to wait and see where they stand on

:19:46. > :19:51.this fifth round. They are diving well. Silver-medallists four years

:19:52. > :20:00.ago. Have they got another medal in them? I'm not sure. They do that big

:20:01. > :20:07.dive right at the end, big, big dive in relative terms. 3.8 to round off,

:20:08. > :20:12.when everyone else only going as high as 3.7 so that would give them

:20:13. > :20:19.appreciably more marks. Boudia and Johnson into round five. This could

:20:20. > :20:28.be calamitous or it can work quite well. How will go for and Johnson.

:20:29. > :20:33.It is good, it is very good. It is often calamitous. We haven't seen

:20:34. > :20:38.anyone hit this dive, we have four pairs doing it this round and this

:20:39. > :20:45.is the US pair's best effort. Four, four and a half somersaults. Johnson

:20:46. > :20:51.a little further away from the diving board. Landing quite short

:20:52. > :20:58.and vertical. He will get caned on his entrance and he should.

:20:59. > :21:08.The coach likes it but of course Stott they always do. They always

:21:09. > :21:14.do. I think Steele Johnson got away with it a little bit there. As a

:21:15. > :21:20.rule of thumb, don't look at the faces of the coaches to see how good

:21:21. > :21:27.a dive is, they will never tell you that. We can go like-for-like on

:21:28. > :21:38.this dive, apart from the Brazilians. It is like playing your

:21:39. > :21:41.joker, if it works. Dolgov and Gorshkovozov for Ukraine. You have

:21:42. > :21:48.seen it a few times. Here it comes again. They have made a hodgepodge

:21:49. > :21:54.of it. It is all over the show. It shows you how difficult it is. Can

:21:55. > :21:59.you get it right when it counts? You can see their expressions as they

:22:00. > :22:03.swim to the side. All the aerial work is spot on and then they look

:22:04. > :22:09.like an octopus spraying its arms everywhere as they go into the

:22:10. > :22:13.water. Arms and legs everywhere. The Ukrainians fall straight out of the

:22:14. > :22:25.back door. They are no longer in the running. Not good at all. That

:22:26. > :22:26.probably, though not categorically, has done for their medal prospects.

:22:27. > :22:40.That tells you all you need to know. It is starting to open out a bit

:22:41. > :22:45.now. So we know who is in contention and who isn't. These will not be but

:22:46. > :22:51.they will give the crowd a bit of fun.

:22:52. > :22:56.The Brazil will possibly try to finish in seventh place and they are

:22:57. > :23:03.not 1 million miles away from doing that. They have to finish strongly.

:23:04. > :23:06.They are just telling the crowd to be quiet because they are getting a

:23:07. > :23:16.little excited. That was their bogey dive and it is

:23:17. > :23:21.probably the most difficult dive they will be performing today. It is

:23:22. > :23:25.the easiest dive we see from the other pairs so the Brazilians in

:23:26. > :23:29.this final as host nation and they are rising to the occasion but that

:23:30. > :23:35.is pretty ordinary, fair to middling. It is a reflection of

:23:36. > :23:49.where they are as a pair. Over rotation.

:23:50. > :24:02.Rondinelli right over on his sides as he goes in. Three C -- Parisi

:24:03. > :24:11.overcorrected. We move onto our leaders at the front. Since the very

:24:12. > :24:16.start. The first, second, third, fourth round. This is their forward

:24:17. > :24:23.four and a half. Is there a chance the Chinese could falter? It would

:24:24. > :24:31.be honest if at all. What a dive! What a dive! That is remarkable.

:24:32. > :24:32.Wholly moly, that is something else. They were siren is going on in the

:24:33. > :24:48.background. What a dive. This is perfect, this

:24:49. > :24:55.will get over 100 points. The Chinese are way out in front. I do

:24:56. > :25:11.not know what to say about that. Diving perfection. Well deserved as

:25:12. > :25:17.well. 106. 106.56 to give it its total mark.

:25:18. > :25:28.Tom Daley, Dan Goodfellow, the same dive right after that. 106.56, just

:25:29. > :25:33.going to read that back to you again. That is ridiculous and gives

:25:34. > :25:39.them a lead of 36. Say goodbye, China. Say goodbye. Second and third

:25:40. > :25:48.is very much still up for grabs and these two can grab it. Either Tom

:25:49. > :25:53.Daley, Dan Goodfellow. Good luck. Well done, boys. Not as good as the

:25:54. > :25:57.Chinese but the best dive this pair have done today. Staying in

:25:58. > :26:00.contention, they really needed to nail this and they have some

:26:01. > :26:05.catching up to do. The Germans are right there. Our boys needed to dig

:26:06. > :26:10.deep and find something from the bottom of their toy box and they

:26:11. > :26:15.needed to make it count. That will help them, getting over 90 points.

:26:16. > :26:24.They will squeeze in right up there in medal contention with one dive to

:26:25. > :26:34.go. Well done, boys. He the marks. -- here come the marks. China, USA,

:26:35. > :26:39.Great Britain, one, two, three, with one round to go and there is not

:26:40. > :26:44.much margin for error between three and five, to be honest, at the

:26:45. > :26:46.moment. This is what it looks like right now. Cheng and Lin away with

:26:47. > :27:18.the fairies. -- Chen. What are you thinking, Neil Taylor?

:27:19. > :27:26.Just looking down the list of dives, 3.6 from the Germans versus 3.6 from

:27:27. > :27:30.the US versus 3.6 from the British pair. That is the fight for those

:27:31. > :27:35.medals. They are like-for-like degree of difficulty. Our boys not

:27:36. > :27:39.doing a back two and a half somersaults with two and a half

:27:40. > :27:45.twists. They are doing three and a half somersaults in the pike

:27:46. > :27:50.position. I have seen them do it so well in training. The pressure is

:27:51. > :27:55.on. This is what the Olympic Games is all about. Can you do it when it

:27:56. > :28:00.counts? I have faith in them. I believe they can, let's wait and

:28:01. > :28:05.see. Have you found the edge of your seat? That is where you are right

:28:06. > :28:12.now. Last round of the men's synchronised ten-metre platform

:28:13. > :28:21.final. Gold probably China's but silver and bronze, who knows?

:28:22. > :28:30.6.3 degrees of difficulty for Shleikher and Hausding. Their diving

:28:31. > :28:35.has been pretty consistent all the way through. As in previous dives,

:28:36. > :28:40.execution letting them down ever so slightly. You cannot afford to keep

:28:41. > :28:46.making those mistakes dive after dive at this level of competition.

:28:47. > :28:50.Every dive counts. We will see this level of difficulty a couple of

:28:51. > :28:54.times in this final round. Russia waiting nervously for their scores.

:28:55. > :29:03.They will not be in the medals today. It will not be their day,

:29:04. > :29:09.Shleikher and Minibaev. They never got into the 90s. That is a

:29:10. > :29:12.reasonable way to round things off but it won't be anywhere near enough

:29:13. > :29:36.to be a medal contender. Raring to go on the board are being

:29:37. > :29:43.silver-medallists from 2008 in Beijing, Hausding and Klein. The

:29:44. > :29:49.lights are on, full effect now. It has got much darker because we're

:29:50. > :29:56.between winter and spring in Brazil. Starting to get dark at 5pm local

:29:57. > :29:57.time. As we watched this back, 2.5 somersaults and twists for the

:29:58. > :30:13.Germans. It is good. But it isn't excellent.

:30:14. > :30:18.3.6 degrees of difficulty, a huge dive, 2.5 twists, folding down into

:30:19. > :30:22.the pike shape, but there is a bicycle sized gap in between them.

:30:23. > :30:27.The judges don't penalised that as heavily as differing timings into

:30:28. > :30:31.the water. It will be interesting to see. The judges know this is close

:30:32. > :30:37.and every single half Mark will count. Wow, will this be good enough

:30:38. > :30:44.for the 2008 silver-medallists to be in the mix for a medal? Will they

:30:45. > :30:58.get close to 90 points? Will it be mid-80s? I'm guessing its mid-80s.

:30:59. > :31:12.86.4 for Germany, they finish on 438. Daley and Goodfellow go last.

:31:13. > :31:18.Germany have given themselves a chance of a medal. Onto the Mexicans

:31:19. > :31:25.now. We told you about this, we flagged it up. The graphic on the

:31:26. > :31:32.screen, there's so much going on, for 2.5 somersaults, three twists.

:31:33. > :31:40.The biggest Gopher broke today. They are at the top of their shop.

:31:41. > :31:47.They've saved the best till last. This is a huge dive. They've left

:31:48. > :31:51.themselves too much to do for a medal today. Our silver-medallists

:31:52. > :31:57.four years ago will be just outside the medals today, I predict, but

:31:58. > :32:00.they finished in style. Three twists, 2.5 somersault is. Wow, pick

:32:01. > :32:08.the bones out of that. Loads of things going on. Little bit too much

:32:09. > :32:12.splash, execution marks will be low but that huge degree of difficulty

:32:13. > :32:16.will carry them through over 80 points, I suspect, but they will

:32:17. > :32:27.have needed close to 100 to be back in the running. Let's see. We wait.

:32:28. > :32:31.It won't be enough on the day. It puts them in second place, but we

:32:32. > :32:44.still have China, USA, and Great Britain still to go. The Mexicans

:32:45. > :32:49.finish 15 points behind Germany. Now, Johnson. They are eight points

:32:50. > :33:00.up on Tom and Dan, so that is a bit of a lead. Great Britain and USA

:33:01. > :33:10.both doing 3.6 dives, but they are different dives, however. Boudia and

:33:11. > :33:16.Johnson. Wow, America have just put the gauntlet down. I think they have

:33:17. > :33:26.secured themselves a medal with that one. Wow! What a dive for the US to

:33:27. > :33:32.finish. That is definitely good enough for a medal. What colour? Who

:33:33. > :33:37.knows, let's wait and see. Execution is bang on. These guys have been

:33:38. > :33:41.under pressure, dive after dive, and they've responded. They are waiting

:33:42. > :33:48.and waiting for the schools to come up, as we are. What will they be?

:33:49. > :33:57.The crowd is cheering but we are still waiting for it. They pretty

:33:58. > :34:06.much no. Johnson is gone, and Boudia is going to follow him. 95.04 for

:34:07. > :34:10.the USA! Massive finish. They can go and do a lap of honour. It might be

:34:11. > :34:18.premature because there are more divers to come, but that is a USA

:34:19. > :34:24.level of some description. Great Britain will need 103 to top that.

:34:25. > :34:32.So, it doesn't look like it's going to be USA below GB. There is still

:34:33. > :34:41.that medal to be had, and there's still some more permutations before

:34:42. > :34:45.we conclude this event. Dolhov and Gorshkovozov have given their all, a

:34:46. > :34:52.decent account of themselves but they are down on the last dive,

:34:53. > :34:57.which has scuppered their chances. They've saved the best till last!

:34:58. > :34:59.Too much to do on the last round dive but the Ukrainians have

:35:00. > :35:09.finished with a marvellous effort there. That is almost as good as the

:35:10. > :35:15.US divers we've just seen. Wow. This is an extraordinary last round.

:35:16. > :35:19.Loving every second of this competition. The pressure is

:35:20. > :35:23.mounting. Super slow motion, one of the assistant referees there, one of

:35:24. > :35:27.the judges in reserve, taking a photo in the background. This is a

:35:28. > :35:31.competition that you will want to watch again. Are they happy with

:35:32. > :35:57.their final marks? They should be. So, Ukraine in fourth place, as

:35:58. > :36:03.things are. So, it is USA, Germany, Mexico, and still three more pairs

:36:04. > :36:10.to come. Mexico know full well China will usurp them. There's still some

:36:11. > :36:15.toing and froing before this event is done and dusted, as it will be in

:36:16. > :36:21.three dives time. Good to see the Brazilians end on a high. Maybe they

:36:22. > :36:30.can. The crowd will give them a rapturous reception once they've

:36:31. > :36:38.concluded this dive. It is an easy dive to finish on. 3.2, not hers

:36:39. > :36:42.difficult as many of the other divers we've seen. It has been a

:36:43. > :36:50.good outing for the Brazilians. I was watching them prepare for this

:36:51. > :36:55.and I thought they'd be much further back. They are diving in front of a

:36:56. > :37:03.home crowd, home Olympic Games, it doesn't get better than that, well

:37:04. > :37:13.done, team Brazil. They will conclude on 268.52. So, yes, decent

:37:14. > :37:18.showing. Certainly not disgraced by any means, Rondinelli and Parisi.

:37:19. > :37:22.Their day pass Mac work is done, they are happy with it and happy

:37:23. > :37:30.from the crowd's reaction. Two more pairs to come. Mexico waiting to see

:37:31. > :37:36.if those medals can be secured. The USA know they have a medal of some

:37:37. > :37:43.description. It's up to the Chinese to throw everything at this. They

:37:44. > :37:47.fled all the way through. Is there a twist in the tail? Not on the basis

:37:48. > :37:52.of that ridiculous 106 in round five. Every dive has to be taken in

:37:53. > :38:02.isolation, however, and this is how they will finish.

:38:03. > :38:12.Yes, unfaltering, they've absolutely annihilated the field. Chen and Lin

:38:13. > :38:16.are the Olympic champions, beyond a shadow of a doubt. What a

:38:17. > :38:20.performance from this team. We knew on paper they were likely to run

:38:21. > :38:28.away with it, and they've done just that. Unwavering, unfaltering,

:38:29. > :38:33.unflappable, unbelievable. All of those things, and that's why the

:38:34. > :38:43.Chinese are so good. They are poles apart. They've just highlighted why

:38:44. > :38:56.today. We're still waiting for the score. Nearly 500 points! If my

:38:57. > :39:08.calculations are right, and we don't have it on the screen, 86 required

:39:09. > :39:18.by Daley and Goodfellow... For bronze? Yes, for bronze. I'm doing

:39:19. > :39:22.my own calculation is, but I think 86 is roughly about right for this

:39:23. > :39:27.medal. Are they in a position to do that? They have enough marks

:39:28. > :39:32.available for them to do it. It will have to be spot-on. This will have

:39:33. > :39:34.to be so, so good. It is tougher than some of the ones we've seen for

:39:35. > :39:49.the same tariff. 86 and a medal, anything else and

:39:50. > :39:55.they will just miss out. Oh, will it be enough? It is so good, the

:39:56. > :40:02.Germans are looking on. The British have absolutely nailed it! It is

:40:03. > :40:07.just a little bit out of sync. This will be oh so close, I have no idea

:40:08. > :40:15.how this will go. The Germans are on for three April four two. -- 400

:40:16. > :40:21.38.4 two. Look at the expressions on their faces. Let's wait and see,

:40:22. > :40:27.will it be bronze or and agonising fourth place? I have no idea. We

:40:28. > :40:35.have no idea. Come on, judges, press those buttons. They've done it! They

:40:36. > :40:40.have done it! We haven't seen it, but we need to give you that

:40:41. > :40:45.information! They have seen it, the crowd have seen it! It is Daley and

:40:46. > :40:54.Department Mark who usurp the Germans with their very last dive.

:40:55. > :40:56.There is the confirmation. Daley and Goodfellow are bronze-medallist in

:40:57. > :41:03.the men's synchronised ten-metre platform. They nailed their last

:41:04. > :41:13.dive. It is China, USA and Great Britain.

:41:14. > :41:19.What a finish! Unbelievable! We had to wait so long. It was agony, the

:41:20. > :41:24.Germans didn't know. The Britons didn't know. They looked and they

:41:25. > :41:31.looked and we still waited. And eventually the keypad is told.

:41:32. > :41:43.89.64, they've beaten the Germans by six points. What an amazing

:41:44. > :41:48.turnaround. They were up very early, then they slipped slightly off the

:41:49. > :41:54.pace, and they knew they had to do a really good dive, and that was a

:41:55. > :42:02.tremendous dive to round off for Daley and Goodfellow. There were 90s

:42:03. > :42:07.for Chen and Lin, and 90s for Boudia and Johnson, they were away, they

:42:08. > :42:11.were never going to catch them, but Daley and Goodfellow get the bronze

:42:12. > :42:16.medal in the men's synchronised ten-metre platform final, and just

:42:17. > :42:20.to round up how everybody else did... Germany in fourth, Mexico,

:42:21. > :42:23.the bronze-medallists four years ago, we expected them to challenge

:42:24. > :42:29.but they didn't get their act together, even on the big dive at

:42:30. > :42:31.the end. They fell short. Russia were disappointed, they've had a

:42:32. > :42:38.decent year. There is your confirmation. We are only looking at

:42:39. > :42:48.the top three. China, USA, Great Britain. It is bronze for Tom Daley,

:42:49. > :42:53.as it was in the individual four years ago, this time partnered by

:42:54. > :42:54.Daniel Goodfellow. Great Britain has a bronze medal in the first men's

:42:55. > :43:05.diving event of Rio 2016. Oh, my word, the tension of the

:43:06. > :43:09.final dive, you could see it on Tom Daley's face. He said after London

:43:10. > :43:13.2012 he'd only entered the synchrotron petition if you found a

:43:14. > :43:18.partner with him he could win a medal. They've done that. Our second

:43:19. > :43:25.bronze medal of the day after Ed Ling took the bronze in the trap

:43:26. > :43:29.shooting. And adding to the gold and silver, courtesy of Adam Peaty and

:43:30. > :43:34.Jazz Carlin. It is a very interesting arena, this, because it

:43:35. > :43:37.is open air, and it is a dark, stormy, windy night, conditions were

:43:38. > :43:41.difficult. It was a wonderful contest for the gold medal,

:43:42. > :43:46.eventually won by China ahead of the USA. You'll remember David Boudia,

:43:47. > :43:52.part of the USA team winning the individual gold medal in London.

:43:53. > :43:58.Slightly disappointing, they were hoping to beat the Chinese but

:43:59. > :44:01.bronze for Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow, a fantastic result! They

:44:02. > :44:06.slipped down the leaderboard after their fourth dive, just not quite on

:44:07. > :44:12.it, but the fifth dive, the Ford 4.5 took them back up into the bronze

:44:13. > :44:15.medal position. Leon Taylor is making his way towards me and we

:44:16. > :44:24.will get his reaction to a thrilling finale of the diving. He is punching

:44:25. > :44:27.the air! They did it, they did it, what's your reaction? Nail-biting

:44:28. > :44:31.stuff. I'd no idea what way it was going to go. When they hit the

:44:32. > :44:36.water, honestly, I just stood there, and we were thinking, have they done

:44:37. > :44:40.it? You could see the tension on their faces and the scoreboard came

:44:41. > :44:45.to live, and it is a well-deserved bronze medal. They did it the hard

:44:46. > :44:50.way, they held their form all the way through. Six consistently good

:44:51. > :44:54.dive spot the Chinese were impressive. Very impressive but

:44:55. > :44:59.let's have another look at Tom and Dan's sixth and final dive. They

:45:00. > :45:08.knew they had to get the high 80s to get a medal. This dive can go either

:45:09. > :45:12.way. There was a slight difference in their entry into the water from a

:45:13. > :45:17.differing distance from the diving board. That was the only fault but

:45:18. > :45:21.they both executed it well. Then that nervous what felt like ten

:45:22. > :45:26.minute wait before the scores came up. The reaction was amazing. His

:45:27. > :45:30.mum is here. Sadly, his dad is no longer with us. But his husband to

:45:31. > :45:36.be as here as well. He's got loads of support. It's very, very tense

:45:37. > :45:40.for those watching, those who know how much she's been through. Both of

:45:41. > :45:47.them have trained so hard. It's so intense. So it is a straight final,

:45:48. > :45:51.there is no preliminary. Every single dive counts. It's hard enough

:45:52. > :45:55.doing it but watching your loved ones doing it, watching them go

:45:56. > :45:59.through blood, sweat and tears, Daniel Goodfellow had an injury

:46:00. > :46:04.which meant that he'd never be able to dive again. They've worked so

:46:05. > :46:05.hard. They are a new pair but they've done it today, Olympic

:46:06. > :46:18.bronze medal. Has been living in Tom's flagged for

:46:19. > :46:23.last month? Yes, you have to spend the time and build the cake. So many

:46:24. > :46:26.hours of training a day. You have the ice and decorate the cake and

:46:27. > :46:31.that is fine tuning and they have been doing it over the past few

:46:32. > :46:39.months. It worked really well for them. How difficult is it for them

:46:40. > :46:44.to achieve this level? How long have they been diving? They are a

:46:45. > :46:47.relatively new pairing. Just watching the athletes come by, the

:46:48. > :46:51.Germans have been together for many years but it is about whether you

:46:52. > :46:55.can do it on the day. They have been working hard, the training has been

:46:56. > :47:01.doing well. They didn't dive as well as they have been doing in training.

:47:02. > :47:06.Some disappointed faces going by but our boys will be smiling and quite

:47:07. > :47:09.right as well, very proud of them. How difficult are these conditions?

:47:10. > :47:20.A swirling wind and overcast conditions. It does add to it. We

:47:21. > :47:24.saw last night, the girls were being buffeted by the wind and the boys

:47:25. > :47:28.this evening. You can see when they are standing there composing

:47:29. > :47:33.themselves, their hair is being swept, it does put you off ever so

:47:34. > :47:36.slightly. You have to deal with the conditions. Tom has been quoted

:47:37. > :47:41.saying, I hope it rains because we are from the UK and we are used to

:47:42. > :47:46.dealing with it. It did threaten. But what an occasion. We won't get

:47:47. > :47:52.an interview with the medallists until after the ceremony. Stay with

:47:53. > :48:02.us for that. They have won a bronze medal and we will be speaking to

:48:03. > :48:08.them straight after the ceremony. In the trap shooting earlier, Ed Ling

:48:09. > :48:13.from Taunton won a bronze. It was a tremendous performance from him in

:48:14. > :48:22.his third Olympics. He won a shoot off to win that bronze medal match.

:48:23. > :48:27.He beat the 2008 Olympic champion. A bit of a shaky start but he hit 13

:48:28. > :48:36.of the next 14 and this is in collecting his Olympic bronze medal.

:48:37. > :48:44.. The winner from Taunton, and a real test of accuracy and nerve. We

:48:45. > :48:50.will be showing new gymnastics very shortly also. Tom Daley refocusing

:48:51. > :48:57.for the ten-metre platform which I think is on Friday. This will give

:48:58. > :49:03.him a huge boost. You cannot stay ready for ten days, you have to let

:49:04. > :49:08.things calm down. Tom Daley will celebrate this and let things sink

:49:09. > :49:22.in and do some media relaxation. He will leave the village for a while.

:49:23. > :49:28.He needs to let things calm down and re-energise and refocus. Get used to

:49:29. > :49:31.not standing next to somebody else. Here's an Olympic medallist twice

:49:32. > :49:35.over so let's see if he can get one to finish off on the 19th and 20th.

:49:36. > :49:41.It could be better than bronze. It could even be a gold medal? Let's

:49:42. > :49:46.just hope for another medal. We're hoping for a medal from the

:49:47. > :49:52.gymnasts, the men's team. That very similar to diving in terms of the

:49:53. > :50:01.rotations, accuracy. In gymnastics, they do it inside and on dry land.

:50:02. > :50:06.Repetition. It is an art. Day in, day out.

:50:07. > :50:28.Mastering skills, building your strength. There are no short cuts.

:50:29. > :50:39.They say practice makes perfect. And it is true. This is about precision,

:50:40. > :50:47.fine tuning, but most of all, it is about passion. That is what drives

:50:48. > :50:53.you to be better, gives you strength to go again and again. So you keep

:50:54. > :51:01.going. Until you are ready to deliver. When it really counts.

:51:02. > :51:15.You saw some of them there, the British men's team, consisting of

:51:16. > :51:19.Max Whitlock, Lewis Smith, Kristian Thomas, and Brinn Bevan. They are

:51:20. > :51:22.using all of the apparatus and it is a tough competition. They could

:51:23. > :51:30.certainly win a medal and this is the story so far.

:51:31. > :51:39.Where are we going to go with this? Where are we going to put our money

:51:40. > :51:40.because it could go anywhere. The definition of power, brace yourself

:51:41. > :51:59.this. He gets off to a flying start. Now he gets a big dismount. Russia

:52:00. > :52:05.on the pommel horse. That was a great routine.

:52:06. > :52:16.Oh, dear, something is not going to plan.

:52:17. > :52:28.That was a beautiful two and a half twist. Such an exciting, dynamic

:52:29. > :52:36.young gymnast. Six star value. It will be hard. Wow. .

:52:37. > :52:41.That was right on the top of his game. These guys are making these

:52:42. > :52:49.hugely difficult faults looks so simple. It looks as if it could well

:52:50. > :52:57.be between Russia, Germany, Japan and Great Britain.

:52:58. > :53:04.The halfway stage and Great Britain are lying in third place. Let's hand

:53:05. > :53:09.you over to Matt Baker to update you. We will bring you an interview

:53:10. > :53:17.with Dan Goodfellow and Tom Daley later on. Matt Baker what a men's

:53:18. > :53:22.team final. We said it would be a close one and as it stands, Great

:53:23. > :53:28.Britain are in third, Japan in second and Russia lead this men's

:53:29. > :53:32.Olympic team final. You join us for the USA who are on vault and they

:53:33. > :53:35.are down in seventh. They are the highest qualifiers but doing

:53:36. > :53:42.everything they can, as you are witnessing from watching this

:53:43. > :53:47.faults, -- vault, this is extraordinary gymnastics. They are a

:53:48. > :53:52.little bit down the leaderboard so they will want to get every single

:53:53. > :53:53.ten they can. They are sticking all their landings and not giving

:53:54. > :54:07.anything away. Jacob Bolton, the second of the US

:54:08. > :54:13.gymnasts and as we said, two triple twists, they have stuck so far. This

:54:14. > :54:22.is the 25-year-old from the USA, he became a father this year. Fourth

:54:23. > :54:32.highest qualifiers on the vault. What can the US do as a team? A

:54:33. > :54:38.super controlled double vault in the pike position. The USA are not going

:54:39. > :54:42.to sit down and roll over and let people beat them. They are fighting

:54:43. > :54:51.back. They might have struggled on their least favourite pieces but

:54:52. > :54:57.they are going for it now. Mariano, the first of the Brazilian gymnasts

:54:58. > :55:05.on the high bar. The USA have this real urgency about their gymnastics.

:55:06. > :55:13.Germany were in second. From three pieces of apparatus. That was a

:55:14. > :55:20.special opening tumble, one and a half twists, punched double front.

:55:21. > :55:21.He had an injury on the floor in qualification and it quite through

:55:22. > :55:37.them. This is smooth floor work now. They have to stay inside the

:55:38. > :55:46.12-metre square and they have to stay inside the white section of the

:55:47. > :55:50.floor. But they have to run and do fantastically difficult tumbles as

:55:51. > :56:00.you can see there. The aim is to land with control, without any

:56:01. > :56:06.steps. And have a big final tumble. Here it is, triple twist, very nice

:56:07. > :56:10.floor work. Goodness me, Germany in fifth at the moment. Second for the

:56:11. > :56:15.first two rotations so they will have to try to knock Brazil out of

:56:16. > :56:20.that fourth spot. Brazil working on high bar at the moment. That is

:56:21. > :56:25.where Great Britain will be shortly. This is superb tumbling. I'm not

:56:26. > :56:32.100% certain but I think you nailed every single landing. Some difficult

:56:33. > :56:39.tumbles as well. That was the triple at the finish. Very much the

:56:40. > :56:44.favoured final tumble for most gymnasts in this competition. You

:56:45. > :56:57.have to finish with a D difficulty or above. The third of the US

:56:58. > :57:00.vaulters. Things going well in camp USA at the moment. Looking very

:57:01. > :57:14.relaxed. It is an anxious wait, it will be a

:57:15. > :57:18.real fight between them and Brazil. Just a reminder, Great Britain in

:57:19. > :57:25.third, Japan in second and Russia are first. Russia having a storming

:57:26. > :57:28.competition. They are and they are showing some of that form in class

:57:29. > :57:37.that they showed that the Europeans earlier this year. They look on

:57:38. > :57:44.fire. Kohei Uchimura, regarded as the finest gymnast on the planet.

:57:45. > :57:54.Team gold is something he desperately wants for Japan. If you

:57:55. > :57:58.hold that slightly too long on one bar, you won't get credit. But I

:57:59. > :58:04.think that was perfect. Just missed handstand there. Nicely back into

:58:05. > :58:25.the swing of things. Really good combination of elements

:58:26. > :58:33.there. He seems to have settled down after the nervous start. Double

:58:34. > :58:38.pike, small stop. That is how you do the bar routine. Absolute style,

:58:39. > :58:41.beautiful, full of grit all the way through. Just beautiful to watch.

:58:42. > :58:44.Slight little errors in the middle so there is tension there. That is

:58:45. > :58:57.where he was a little nervous. Schools muck on the floor, you have

:58:58. > :59:06.to do something special for. -- scores on the floor.

:59:07. > :59:27.The tuck backward half two. Can be quite difficult. Makes sure he kicks

:59:28. > :59:34.out of all of his double back somersaults.

:59:35. > :59:39.There was the combination of elements that makes his routine

:59:40. > :59:56.standout. Japan were 0.7 ahead of Great

:59:57. > :00:10.Britain in that silver medal spot at the halfway stage. 6.8 difficulty.

:00:11. > :00:25.Some booing going on around the arena, not sure what that is for. I

:00:26. > :00:39.think it is Sergio Sasaki's low score. Less than the crowd wanted.

:00:40. > :00:44.As soon as these gymnasts are complete... It is like half-time

:00:45. > :00:50.within each rotation, where the country's swap over. In this team

:00:51. > :00:54.final, all three scores count of the three gymnasts that had up to the

:00:55. > :00:58.apparatus, so there is real pressure. And it is getting more

:00:59. > :01:03.pressured as the competition goes on because, as you work your way

:01:04. > :01:08.through those 18 routines, knowing everything you do reflects that

:01:09. > :01:16.final score, this is where the competition can very much be won or

:01:17. > :01:21.lost. Great Britain will be up on high bar very shortly. We will have

:01:22. > :01:33.Max Whitlock, Kristian Thomas, and Nile Wilson. China will be on vault.

:01:34. > :01:39.China are six going into this rotation. Great Britain are in

:01:40. > :01:44.third. And we have the current European and Commonwealth champion

:01:45. > :01:46.in Nile Wilson, who will be the third up. They get a three minute

:01:47. > :01:59.warm up now. Well, high bar, you normally finish

:02:00. > :02:04.on high bar. It is a real crowd pleaser. But halfway through the

:02:05. > :02:13.competition! It is a hairy one to have as a half-time break. Yes, it

:02:14. > :02:19.can be very nerve wracking. If your team hits, the crowd go wild. You

:02:20. > :02:24.can get big scores but you're releasing the bar, going over, it

:02:25. > :02:28.can be very risky. Slightly off, you can mess. And that will be a big

:02:29. > :02:32.deduction for the team. Will Great Britain be going all out the

:02:33. > :02:39.difficulty or will they start to say, hang on a minute, let's pull it

:02:40. > :02:43.back a couple of tenths. I think they will go for it, they can't hold

:02:44. > :02:49.back. China have got their stronger half of the competition coming up.

:02:50. > :02:56.Japan have pulled it back. The USA team have done three amazing vaults.

:02:57. > :03:02.As it stands, what are you thinking? I think we are doing well! I don't

:03:03. > :03:08.want to jinx anything but if we can carry on the way were going, fair

:03:09. > :03:17.enough. Chris, what do you think? I think I'd say the same as standard.

:03:18. > :03:22.For a rocky, that was very wise! No, I think this is the Olympic Games,

:03:23. > :03:26.it's the final, all the gymnasts out there are very well trained,

:03:27. > :03:37.fabulously strong, confident gymnasts. Even if they make a slight

:03:38. > :03:41.mistake, they will not roll over. It's a tough competition. Because

:03:42. > :03:46.the way the scoring goes, it depends how you start how it opens out. I

:03:47. > :03:52.don't expect to see China at the bottom eventually. No, none of us

:03:53. > :03:54.would have have expected them to be sick halfway round, either, but

:03:55. > :04:00.Great Britain will know what's going on around the arena. These big

:04:01. > :04:06.scoreboards hang around the roof, so everyone will see. If you choose to

:04:07. > :04:13.ignore it, fair enough, but the opportunity is there. We are going

:04:14. > :04:18.to vault. And they've proved wonderful twisters. But that was a

:04:19. > :04:24.big step on landing. The triple twist, we've seen triple of these

:04:25. > :04:30.dismounts, but that was... Qualification, they landed them so

:04:31. > :04:33.easily but that wasn't great. No, it wasn't. They are trying to play

:04:34. > :04:42.catch up, to do everything perfectly. And they aren't getting

:04:43. > :04:46.it. And under rotating. We often see China come out, because they are

:04:47. > :04:51.quiet on the world stage, nobody really knows what they are going to

:04:52. > :04:55.come with. Then we saw them in qualification, we saw them be a

:04:56. > :05:03.little bit rusty. Normally, they polish themselves up somewhat. It

:05:04. > :05:14.doesn't seem to have happened. Well, parallel bars now. This is the

:05:15. > :05:16.Russian. The leaders. Nice. Big tucked back with half turn from the

:05:17. > :05:37.upper arms position. That is a special requirement, that

:05:38. > :05:42.bar work. Big dismount, double front with Desmond. Russia are on song.

:05:43. > :05:52.The 19-year-old is the first of the three Russians to swing the parallel

:05:53. > :06:01.bars. That is lower than what the Chinese were expecting. It just

:06:02. > :06:06.isn't their day. That was a little slack that routine right at the

:06:07. > :06:15.beginning. Stretovich, went better as he went on. He wasn't as tight,

:06:16. > :06:20.maybe I am being overcritical. I agree. First man up. Russia doing

:06:21. > :06:26.well as a team, he'd be quite nervous, he still quite young. He

:06:27. > :06:32.settled the further he got into it. They are two marks ahead of Japan.

:06:33. > :06:37.So, they've got some leeway. They can take off the gas a little bit.

:06:38. > :06:41.And maybe enjoy their gymnastics, they haven't had that opportunity

:06:42. > :06:44.for years. They've always been fighting and pushing, desperately

:06:45. > :06:52.hanging on. Here they are, ahead of the rest of the world, and they're

:06:53. > :06:55.thriving on it. Yes, in qualification, they did well but

:06:56. > :07:02.they struggled to get the scores they'd have hoped for. But that'll

:07:03. > :07:08.do. Great start for the Russian team on parallel bars. The all-round

:07:09. > :07:14.Russian champion, Kuksenkov, will be up, and Belyavskiy will wrap things

:07:15. > :07:19.up. He seems on song as well. I think that could well be his year,

:07:20. > :07:31.Belyavskiy. I think that as well. We've seen him growing and maturing.

:07:32. > :07:39.Well, can Zhang Chenglong lay his Demons to rest for China? Another

:07:40. > :07:45.big vault on the way. Lovely triple twist that time. Much, much better

:07:46. > :07:53.work. Good control, that'll go well, up into the fifteens. Very much

:07:54. > :07:58.needed for China. They are in sixth, and they've had a bit of a rusty

:07:59. > :08:03.time. His team-mates say, thanks ever so much, mate! You've really

:08:04. > :08:07.helped me out there! All three scores count so no matter what

:08:08. > :08:17.happens, that score is added to the team total. Here we go. There's the

:08:18. > :08:25.backflip, and the height he gets off the vault into the triple make the

:08:26. > :08:32.landing isn't as good as Shirai, but it was a lot higher, I thought. It

:08:33. > :08:42.was a little bit less tidy. I'm sure the judges will have a feuded -- few

:08:43. > :08:47.deductions. Another tall gymnast. Not used to seeing the Chinese

:08:48. > :08:52.gymnast so tall. They are usually small and compact people. We will

:08:53. > :08:56.see this very gymnast wrap up the competition for China on high bar.

:08:57. > :08:59.It'll be a big routine for him because they are chasing to get back

:09:00. > :09:09.into the medals. It'll be down to him. 15.4 four Zhang Chenglong,

:09:10. > :09:14.giving them a score of 45, when you add all of the three gymnasts

:09:15. > :09:19.together. And that is their job done now on vault. They will move on to

:09:20. > :09:26.the Peebles, which they are renowned for. The last of the three British

:09:27. > :09:39.gymnasts, Nile Wilson. We've already had 14 833 from Thomas. Come on,

:09:40. > :09:43.Nile Wilson. Current Commonwealth and European champion, we need you

:09:44. > :09:51.now. He needs to focus, to be steady. He has a couple of big

:09:52. > :09:59.releases. He is the first one. Here comes the next. Into the tuck

:10:00. > :10:07.position. Hangs on. Steadies the swing down a little bit. 1.5 term.

:10:08. > :10:22.Swinging in the referrer script, you have to swing in more than one type

:10:23. > :10:31.of grip. Now with the half-time, up into the Kachev. Does it better than

:10:32. > :10:37.anyone. Full pirouette. Come on, into the dismount. Take it up!

:10:38. > :10:47.Control the landing! Well done, Nile Wilson! Yes! Well, that is four

:10:48. > :10:53.down, two to go. Watch out! Great Britain are on their way! That will

:10:54. > :11:01.be a big school, I think. A really big score. That is huge! Let's

:11:02. > :11:10.settle down. The leaders, Russia, and this lad knows how to swing the

:11:11. > :11:20.parallel bars, David Belyavskiy. He has held it the right amount of

:11:21. > :11:30.time. Moving to the end of the bars. Swinging from one end to the other.

:11:31. > :11:41.Swinging to handstand, that is his upper arm requirement.

:11:42. > :12:02.-- his routine nearly over. The Russian scorers building and

:12:03. > :12:10.building. The gap is increasing. That was really nice. It is a huge

:12:11. > :12:15.start and it will be a huge finish. You're right, this is going to be

:12:16. > :12:21.Belyavskiy's year. He was great at the Europeans, he's coming good at

:12:22. > :12:26.the moment for the Olympics. For one, I'm delighted to see that. He

:12:27. > :12:33.is a classy gymnast whom we've seen work hard, pick himself up when it's

:12:34. > :12:36.gone wrong. Well, I mean, what a difference it would do for the

:12:37. > :12:46.energy of the Russian team to get a medal here. Great Britain get a

:12:47. > :12:51.great score. The floor and pommel horse to come, what is in store for

:12:52. > :12:59.Great Britain in the next half an hour? Oh! Don't go anywhere! Keep

:13:00. > :13:08.cool, lads, keep cool, unlike us in the commentary box! We have a chance

:13:09. > :13:15.to see Kristian Thomas's high bar routine. This happened early on. We

:13:16. > :13:20.saw Nile Wilson smash it there on vault. We've relied so much on

:13:21. > :13:24.Kristian Thomas on vault and this is another piece of apparatus where he

:13:25. > :13:33.comes into his own and he manages to stay so level-headed. That is a

:13:34. > :13:39.trait of his. Definitely. That's why he's the team captain. Everyone

:13:40. > :13:52.looks to him. That is a big release and catch move there. Slightly off

:13:53. > :13:56.on the twisting giant. That was much better. You need to try to catch

:13:57. > :14:01.those turn and moves as close to handstand as possible so the judges

:14:02. > :14:11.can't duct. That was a turn and move connected into release and catch.

:14:12. > :14:21.He winds it up into the dismount. Big fall twisting double straight.

:14:22. > :14:30.You've got to love that! You have got to love that. Such a powerful

:14:31. > :14:35.routine. He's a tall gymnast, so powerful. He swings the bars in a

:14:36. > :14:42.different way. I've seen this move improve from him time and time

:14:43. > :14:52.again. He is able to kick it out and swing out a bit. Always good in the

:14:53. > :15:02.dismount. Mr reliable gets a good score. This is how Max Whitlock got

:15:03. > :15:08.on on high bar. He fell in qualification. He did, he will be

:15:09. > :15:13.wanting to put it behind him. That was eight good full pirouette, and

:15:14. > :15:22.that was the element he came to grief on.

:15:23. > :15:35.Always renowned for being good at the pirouette worked, at the turns.

:15:36. > :15:46.We have had two releases already. Another one and a half. Nicely

:15:47. > :15:51.controlled. Each of the turns worth extra marks. Here comes the

:15:52. > :15:55.dismount. He is quick and speedy on the double twist and the double

:15:56. > :16:01.straight. Three excellent bar routines from the British lads.

:16:02. > :16:04.Working on all six pieces of apparatus, doing everything he can

:16:05. > :16:12.to get Great Britain that Olympic medal. They really are asking the

:16:13. > :16:14.questions of the other competitors and that is all you can ask for from

:16:15. > :16:25.the boys. Big dismount, his legs are locked

:16:26. > :16:37.together. Opens his arms when he sees the ground. Yes. You can see it

:16:38. > :16:41.in his eyes. Let's have a look and see how things look. After four

:16:42. > :16:42.pieces of apparatus, Russian Federation lead Japan by a long

:16:43. > :16:57.chalk. Look at the British spectators, they

:16:58. > :17:02.are all in there. I was on the aeroplane with Brin D'Avoine's mum

:17:03. > :17:10.and she was just beside herself that her son was here. And Max's brother

:17:11. > :17:15.and dad are here. Everyone just now getting further and further on the

:17:16. > :17:21.edges of their seats as the last two pieces of apparatus approach and it

:17:22. > :17:25.is the floor for Great Britain and not long to wait because Max

:17:26. > :17:33.Whitlock will be first... I think you've just chalking up for the

:17:34. > :17:44.moment. This format, you go second in one rotation, then first. We are

:17:45. > :17:51.looking at Ivan Stretovich for Russia. Important routine for them.

:17:52. > :17:56.Young gymnast, been trusted here. It has been one of the three people

:17:57. > :18:04.whose scores counter. Her Mackems the big release. Full twisting back

:18:05. > :18:15.somersault over the bar. -- her Mackems the big release.

:18:16. > :18:22.Without the turn. Lovely swing. No interruption.

:18:23. > :18:37.He has navigated the difficult work. The double straight, just with a

:18:38. > :18:41.single quest, not so difficult but he is thrilled with that

:18:42. > :18:46.performance. Unbelievable composure for 19 years old, to go up there. We

:18:47. > :18:50.talked about the pressure building with these routines and when you are

:18:51. > :18:53.ahead of the likes of Japan and Great Britain, you've got to stay

:18:54. > :18:57.there. You can give them an inch otherwise they will be straight back

:18:58. > :19:04.at you. So for him there, just remarkable. Yes and he obviously

:19:05. > :19:09.only came in at the last minute. He was the reserve. A great decision to

:19:10. > :19:13.put him in, he has performed so well and under that kind of pressure, to

:19:14. > :19:19.try to stay ahead, it has been a great performance. And not be

:19:20. > :19:24.frightened to do your releases and captures. It is so good to see that.

:19:25. > :19:33.They will not play safe, they will want to stay out as far as they can.

:19:34. > :19:39.They have got the floor and then they will finish up on the pommel

:19:40. > :19:47.horse. Things may just slow down a little bit. Sometimes you cannot

:19:48. > :19:50.stay in the floor area. However, on the day, he does, he will score

:19:51. > :19:59.fantastically because it is a routine and a half.

:20:00. > :20:08.Things are going Russia's way. Russia leading the men's team final.

:20:09. > :20:11.Brazil are in fourth, ahead of China. The USA in six. Germany in

:20:12. > :20:31.seventh and Ukraine in eighth. Just waiting for Ivan Stretovich's

:20:32. > :20:39.score. Making way for the second gymnast.

:20:40. > :20:52.This is just the second piece of apparatus Oleg Verniaiev has been

:20:53. > :20:58.on. He can offer a lot on the pommel horse. It is a big score. The team

:20:59. > :21:09.will be hoping for a big score today. Great composed start. With

:21:10. > :21:14.the scissors to handstand. Picks up into the double lipped circle. Up

:21:15. > :21:26.into handstand. He controlled that brilliantly. Into the middle for the

:21:27. > :21:33.trip triple Russian turn. Into the one handle for this sequence. And

:21:34. > :21:50.again,. Across the horse. Travelling forwards and backwards.

:21:51. > :21:59.Up into the dismount. Now, that will be a big score. He is in the pommel

:22:00. > :22:03.horse final. He went up and saluted, held the bar and jumped off again so

:22:04. > :22:08.it is a bit of an odd performance they are doing here. They are just

:22:09. > :22:14.going around. Very impressive for Oleg Verniaiev on the pommel horse.

:22:15. > :22:18.Kristian Thomas now on the floor. Kristian Thomas is the second

:22:19. > :22:33.gymnast up. Former European floor champion. Come on, Chris. -- Kris!.

:22:34. > :22:42.Super double twist in front into the full twist front. Two and a half

:22:43. > :22:49.twists, controlling those landings well.

:22:50. > :22:55.Quite unoriginal element, rolling out the handspring. Very stylish

:22:56. > :23:03.gymnast, Kristian Thomas. Arms really wide. Lovely. Balance

:23:04. > :23:24.and control in the handstand. He needs power and control. A big

:23:25. > :23:30.double Arabian to finish. That is the way to do it, Kristian Thomas.

:23:31. > :23:31.Just a little hop on the first one, otherwise everything landed

:23:32. > :23:43.perfectly. Max Whitlock still to go. Goodness

:23:44. > :23:49.me. If this is going to be very close, come the finish of this

:23:50. > :23:53.competition, I cannot tell you. It is and I am glad we are finishing on

:23:54. > :23:58.one of our stronger pieces. That could really give us a big score on

:23:59. > :24:08.the pommel horse. He is just out there. It is not too harsh on the

:24:09. > :24:12.deductions, it will only be a 0.1. He has unsurprisingly made the floor

:24:13. > :24:16.final and it is a wonderful story because it means his fiancee and dad

:24:17. > :24:19.gets to come out and see him perform. They could not get here

:24:20. > :24:28.before the individual apparatus finals. They are watching from home.

:24:29. > :24:35.Kristian Thomas' family get the chance to see him perform here in

:24:36. > :24:44.Rio. That was certainly another good, steady performance. The

:24:45. > :24:50.pressure is rising now. No doubt, China will be on their way back as

:24:51. > :24:55.well. They are an parallel bars at the moment, just chalking up. Talk

:24:56. > :24:57.about the pedigree on there, a current and former world champion as

:24:58. > :25:03.well as eight former bronze-medallist.

:25:04. > :25:08.China at the moment in fifth. Great Britain in third. Tentatively in

:25:09. > :25:21.third. We will bring you the other British

:25:22. > :25:31.performances as soon as we can but for now, we will stick with Deng

:25:32. > :25:43.Shudi of China. He has been putting some massive scores in so far.

:25:44. > :25:51.Double tap to start off with. -- double tuck. Struggled slightly.

:25:52. > :26:01.Really nice double pike. He is really quite stylish on this piece

:26:02. > :26:06.of apparatus. Nice under bar work combination. Another double

:26:07. > :26:35.somersault between the bars. Composing himself just before his

:26:36. > :26:46.dismount. A big double pike. That is a good routine. That follows a

:26:47. > :26:51.massive score of 15.9 and 16.1 66, so China are on their way. They are

:26:52. > :26:56.indeed and they have a couple of pieces they are so outstanding on.

:26:57. > :27:00.Parallel bars is one. It always surprises me it doesn't even out a

:27:01. > :27:08.little more across the apparatus. But they are so much more excellent

:27:09. > :27:12.an parallel bars. I guess it is the same with Great Britain. We are good

:27:13. > :27:16.on the pommel that it doesn't mean we will be great on the bars. Lovely

:27:17. > :27:26.lines. It is all about the good handstand

:27:27. > :27:44.shape on the parallel bars. This super dismount. You can see, he

:27:45. > :27:47.finishes with the ability to have his chest right up. He actually

:27:48. > :27:52.stopped and brought it back down a little bit. You can see, a little

:27:53. > :27:58.bit of medical assistance to his arms. Just put this into

:27:59. > :28:07.perspective, China would just about 0.7 behind Great Britain. 15.8, is

:28:08. > :28:11.enormous. China sitting in fifth going into this rotation, which

:28:12. > :28:14.Britain into third, Japan's second and Russia still leading this

:28:15. > :28:21.competition as they have done all the way around.

:28:22. > :28:29.CLARE BALDING: On BBC One, we will be making way for the ten o'clock

:28:30. > :28:34.news. Continuing coverage of the gymnastics, the men's team final,

:28:35. > :28:38.over on BBC Two. Later on, the conclusion of that event and we will

:28:39. > :28:42.hear from Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow who won in the men's ten

:28:43. > :28:46.metres synchro. All of that coming up on the BBC but leaving you here

:28:47. > :28:51.on BBC One to pick up coverage on BBC Two.
