:00:53. > :00:59.Hello and welcome back to the Copacabana, day four of the Rio

:01:00. > :01:01.Olympics, and in just a few hours' time, the greatest swimmer of all

:01:02. > :01:22.time will re-enter the pool. A huge gold medal to Michael Phelps,

:01:23. > :01:27.a new world record! I wonder whether we have here somebody who is going

:01:28. > :01:30.to replace Spitz as the greatest swimmer ever.

:01:31. > :01:33.# Maybe I'm foolish # Maybe I'm blind

:01:34. > :01:43.# Thinking I can see through this # And see what's behind. Can Michael

:01:44. > :01:47.Phelps go eight golds in eight days? He's tried to set Olympic history.

:01:48. > :02:02.He's tried to set swimming history. Eight days, eight gold medals. Fen

:02:03. > :02:07.Phelps is the greatest. His last Olympics, he goes out as

:02:08. > :02:09.the best ever. No-one has won more Olympic medals

:02:10. > :02:15.in history! CHEERING

:02:16. > :02:17.# Oh, some people have a real problem

:02:18. > :02:21.# Some people got to love # Michael Phelps is back.

:02:22. > :02:25.Swimmer Michael Phelps is coming out of retirement. US Olympic swimmer

:02:26. > :02:29.Michael Phelps has been arrested for driving under the influence. Michael

:02:30. > :02:32.Phelps has been arrested. He will not be allowed to represent the

:02:33. > :02:35.United States. His second arrest for drink-driving. Banned for competing

:02:36. > :02:38.from the United States for six months.

:02:39. > :02:43.# I'm only human after all... Michael Phelps is heading to Rio. A

:02:44. > :02:49.showdown in Rio looms ahead. Unbelievable from Phelps. His 19th

:02:50. > :02:53.gold medal. A true champion. You simply have to stay up. You have

:02:54. > :02:57.to stay with us this evening because we have got one heck of a night in

:02:58. > :03:01.the pool, because Chad Le Clos of South Africa is up against Michael

:03:02. > :03:07.Phelps and Phelps is going for his 20th Olympic gold medal. It is

:03:08. > :03:17.simply an astonishing story. You do not want to miss it.

:03:18. > :03:22.So Le Clos pipping Phelps to the 200m butterfly gold was one of the

:03:23. > :03:26.highlights of London 2012. Four years later, it is the Rio re-match.

:03:27. > :03:32.Britain's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor was the fastest qualifier in the 200m

:03:33. > :03:36.individual medley, but can the 20-year-old stop Hungary's Katinka

:03:37. > :03:39.Hosszu oning a third gold at these Games?

:03:40. > :03:45.World Champions, Great Britain, qualified fastest for the final of

:03:46. > :03:49.the 4x200m replay as they take on the mighty Americans later.

:03:50. > :03:54.Emotional scenes in the men's weightlifting competition on day

:03:55. > :03:57.three. Will we get more of the same later?

:03:58. > :04:02.And they're outperforming the men. Brazil's women's football team look

:04:03. > :04:08.to make it three wins out of three against South Africa.

:04:09. > :04:11.So this is how we're lining up: Shortly we'll be at the

:04:12. > :04:15.weightlifting for the men's 69kg gold medal competition. It's one of

:04:16. > :04:18.the fastest and most dramatic sports of the Olympic Games. We'll check in

:04:19. > :04:22.with the handball later. That's been amazing over the past couple of

:04:23. > :04:27.days. Then we're into the Pool, Phelps v Le Clos in the 200m fly

:04:28. > :04:31.just before 2:30. Britain's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor about an hour

:04:32. > :04:35.later, a real shot at a medal. We wish her the best and then the 4 x

:04:36. > :04:44.200m freestyle relay just after that. Can Britain add Olympic gold

:04:45. > :04:48.to that world title? At Olympic Park, Brazil fans have been cheering

:04:49. > :04:51.on their nation in many sports today, especially the men's

:04:52. > :04:54.basketball. They beat Spain by a single point. And I can tell you

:04:55. > :04:59.this - having been on Copacabana during that match, they were

:05:00. > :05:06.watching in the bars, along the beach, all celebrating. We've got

:05:07. > :05:11.breaking news in the tennis for you because Serena Williams has just

:05:12. > :05:16.been knocked out, straight-sets shocker, to Elina Svitolina.

:05:17. > :05:20.Normally her serve is so, so good, so powerful, utterly reduced to

:05:21. > :05:26.rubble. And what a disaster it's been for the Williams sisters, these

:05:27. > :05:32.Games. Out of the double, Venus and Serena, both out in the singles too.

:05:33. > :05:36.So more on that later in the programme but let's go straight to

:05:37. > :05:40.Olympic Park because the pool is going to be absolutely rocking this

:05:41. > :05:44.evening and let's talk to Michael Jamieson, because he won a silver

:05:45. > :05:47.medal in London 2012 and he's working for the media. Michael,

:05:48. > :05:53.hello and good evening to you. This is going to be one almighty tussle

:05:54. > :05:57.this evening. Yeah, what a fantastic session we've got lined up.

:05:58. > :06:01.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, great to see her build on experience and

:06:02. > :06:05.development from the London Olympic Games when she was just 15 years

:06:06. > :06:12.old. So really exciting chance there. In the men's 4 x 200m

:06:13. > :06:17.freestyle relay, the Brits had a fantastic performance this morning.

:06:18. > :06:23.Great to see Dan Wallace back on form and young Duncan Scott on his

:06:24. > :06:26.Olympic debut after breaking the British record earlier in the

:06:27. > :06:29.session. So some absolutely fantastic swimming going on today

:06:30. > :06:37.for the Brits. Michael, can we just focus on Le Clos against Phelps?

:06:38. > :06:43.Because we looked at the Twitter feed last night and that shot of

:06:44. > :06:46.them went viral. Twitter went into meltdown saying these two despise

:06:47. > :06:50.each other. What is the mood like between these two? Well, as you can

:06:51. > :06:57.see from the video, it looks like there could be a little bit of bad

:06:58. > :07:01.blood between them. The video did go viral so it will be an incredible

:07:02. > :07:06.race between them tonight. I don't think Phelps looked right on his

:07:07. > :07:12.best game last night through the semifinals. But Chad Le Clos looked

:07:13. > :07:16.a little bit tired after the 200m freestyle earlier in the session.

:07:17. > :07:20.That will be a real tactical battle, not to mention the young Hungarian,

:07:21. > :07:24.Kenderesi, who could be looking to spoil the party. Come on then,

:07:25. > :07:28.Michael. Who is your money on? I've got to back Phelps. He's the best of

:07:29. > :07:32.all time and in an environment like this, Olympic final, when it counts,

:07:33. > :07:34.Phelps is going to be the man over anyone else in the field to find

:07:35. > :07:38.that little bit extra. Michael, great to see you. Thank you very

:07:39. > :07:47.much indeed for your time. Good man. Thank you. Cheers.

:07:48. > :07:51.Get Inspired it is the beebl Sport campaign to help you get active. You

:07:52. > :07:55.can find inspirational stories from people just like you as well as

:07:56. > :07:58.hints, tips and 70 practical guides to help you give something a go.

:07:59. > :08:02.There's an activity finder to help you find something to try near you.

:08:03. > :08:06.You can tell us how you're getting on and ask questions through our

:08:07. > :08:09.social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook and maybe you can inspire

:08:10. > :08:17.someone else to give something a try. We're passing the baton to you.

:08:18. > :08:22.Get up, get inspired, get active. Well, yesterday, we saw some very

:08:23. > :08:25.emotional scenes in the weightlifting with Oscar Figueroa of

:08:26. > :08:34.Columbia. He decided to bow out at the very top. He lifted a combined

:08:35. > :08:38.total of 318kg to win the men's Olympic 62kg weightlifting title and

:08:39. > :08:44.delivering Columbia's first goal of Rio 2016. His 176kg lift in the

:08:45. > :08:49.clean-and-jerk meant Indonesia's Eko Yuli Irawan was forced to settle for

:08:50. > :08:56.silver as both men improved on the medals they won at London 2012. This

:08:57. > :09:04.is your cut out-and-keep guide to the weightlifting tonight.

:09:05. > :09:08.Men's weightlifting appeared at the first modern Olympics and has

:09:09. > :09:10.featured at every Games since 1920. The women's competition only debuted

:09:11. > :09:14.in Sydney in 2000. The aim of weightlifting is simple -

:09:15. > :09:18.to lift the greatest weight possible. There are two types of

:09:19. > :09:22.lift, the snatch and the clean-and-jerk. Competitors have to

:09:23. > :09:25.complete both lifts and the winner is the person whose combined weight

:09:26. > :09:30.total is the greatest. The snatch is a lift where the bar bell is raised

:09:31. > :09:34.above the head to locked arms in one continuous movement. The athlete

:09:35. > :09:38.starts in the squat position and must flip the weight so it moves in

:09:39. > :09:41.an arc to a position above their head. When they're secure in this

:09:42. > :09:45.position, they rise and complete the live. The clean-and-jerk lift is

:09:46. > :09:48.performed in two stages. The clean is where the bar bell is gripped,

:09:49. > :09:53.palms downwards and pulled in a single movement from the platform to

:09:54. > :09:56.the shoulders. The jerk is where the athlete bends and then extends the

:09:57. > :09:59.legs and arms to bring the bar bell to full stretch. They must then

:10:00. > :10:02.stand still with the feet in line with the bar until they're given the

:10:03. > :10:05.signal by the three judges that the lift is good.

:10:06. > :10:09.Each weightlifter has three attempts in both the snatch and the

:10:10. > :10:12.clean-and-jerk, with and the combined total of the highest two

:10:13. > :10:16.successful lifts determining the overall result. If, after three

:10:17. > :10:20.attempts, they fail to register a correct lift, they'll be eliminated

:10:21. > :10:24.from the competition. Olympic weightlifting requires more than

:10:25. > :10:29.just great strength, excellent balance, stability and speed - these

:10:30. > :10:32.are essential to a weightlifter's quest for glory.

:10:33. > :10:43.It is one of the great Olympic sports. So we're heading to the

:10:44. > :10:53.men's 69kg competition. A Turkish competitor leads after a

:10:54. > :11:12.lift of 163kg. He's loving it. So let's take a look at how it stands

:11:13. > :11:19.as we go into the clean-and-jerk. They're about to start the

:11:20. > :11:44.clean-and-jerk. Let's start with our commentary team.

:11:45. > :11:59.So from Indonesia, Triyatno. This attempt would put him into third

:12:00. > :12:03.position. 17 a five kilograms. - 175kg.

:12:04. > :12:12.Oh, stand with a dead weight. That's tough.

:12:13. > :12:16.Good overhead. Hips a little behind the bar. Tremendous leg strength to

:12:17. > :12:20.be able to stand with that once it's... And there's a good example

:12:21. > :12:26.of the difference between the physiques. Much smaller through the

:12:27. > :12:32.arms. So he lost the timing. We'll see on the replay as he hits the

:12:33. > :12:36.bottom, deep squat position. Ideally the lifters want to drive straight

:12:37. > :12:46.out and we'll see here that it hits him, bosh, can't move. That is hard.

:12:47. > :12:51.Pretty good overhead. Compensates with his shoulders just because the

:12:52. > :13:01.hips were a bit further back. So Calja now. This would move him into

:13:02. > :13:02.second position. The Albanian was 145kg in the

:13:03. > :13:35.snatch. Well, not the best technically, but

:13:36. > :13:39.he is strong. So the jerk position leg was a long way back and that

:13:40. > :13:43.meant he had to take more weight on the front leg and as a result

:13:44. > :13:48.recover back foot first. Doesn't have to be textbook. It's just got

:13:49. > :13:55.to go up within the rules of the competition.

:13:56. > :14:00.The bar stays nice and close to the shins. Knees come back, extends,

:14:01. > :14:07.drives it up, gets it off the wind pipe.

:14:08. > :14:15.Dip and drive to arm's length. Pipe. Dip and drive to arm's length. Short

:14:16. > :14:22.dip, big drive. Mohd of Malaysia. Only 140kg in the

:14:23. > :14:30.snatch. This lift would put him in seventh. 176kg.

:14:31. > :14:37.CHEERING Oh, the relief on his face. Well, he

:14:38. > :14:43.had a real struggle earlier, didn't he? Well, he had a struggle there.

:14:44. > :14:52.That was far from convincing. First attempt. I wonder how much further

:14:53. > :14:56.he is able to go. His best was 180kg a while back. But

:14:57. > :15:04.we were mentioning earlier, when he won the gold medal in Glasgow, they

:15:05. > :15:09.gave him a house. In Malaysia and I think it was US$3,000. What would

:15:10. > :15:19.they give him if he won an Olympic Games, hey? Sadly for him, it is a

:15:20. > :15:32.question that we won't be asking. He's dropped from 180kg down to

:15:33. > :15:40.177kg. This would put him, briefly, in top

:15:41. > :16:04.spot. First attempt, 177kg on the bar.

:16:05. > :16:10.So clearly strong enough on the clean. You can just see he's gone a

:16:11. > :16:15.bit dizzy after the clean. So he's missed 177kg and just had

:16:16. > :16:18.the bar across the windpipe. Look at him, he's just pointing to the fact

:16:19. > :16:23.that he's struggling a bit. Well, if he wants to gain time, he needs to

:16:24. > :16:28.stay on the platform before he comes off. The loaders are not allowed on

:16:29. > :16:32.the platform until the lifter is off. So bar on his windpipe. This is

:16:33. > :16:36.a difficulty you face when you've lost a lot of body weight as well.

:16:37. > :16:41.It's really hard to execute the jerk when you're feeling dizzy. And at

:16:42. > :16:47.the moment, unless he goes up in weight, he's going to have to come

:16:48. > :16:51.back out. So it's still flashing 177kg for

:16:52. > :16:55.him. There's been no movement in terms of the weight.

:16:56. > :16:59.Shi of China in the warm-up room just asked the coaches to pop the

:17:00. > :17:03.weights on. He's ready to make a start in terms of building up to his

:17:04. > :17:07.opening weight, which apparently is 190kg. And there's the current

:17:08. > :17:11.standings with a number of the lifters from the B group this

:17:12. > :17:18.morning still featuring but, of course, we've got 11 lifters active.

:17:19. > :17:22.You've two minutes if you follow yourself. We're down to about 1

:17:23. > :17:26.minute and 13 seconds at the moment. There's been no movement from his

:17:27. > :17:34.coaches. If he's going to come back out... Ben Hnia of Tunisia. The

:17:35. > :17:43.African Games champion from last year.

:17:44. > :17:48.Fifth in the World Championship. A best at this discipline at 183kg but

:17:49. > :18:12.really struggled with that 177kg a moment ago.

:18:13. > :18:24.Come on now. No. Well, he's going to follow

:18:25. > :18:28.himself again, I'm fairly sure the coaches won't put the weight up.

:18:29. > :18:32.He's really struggling with the light headedness. Yeah, he's...

:18:33. > :18:38.Going to have to come out and nail that to remain in the competition,

:18:39. > :18:42.to post a total. It's his last lift coming.

:18:43. > :18:49.Stays close. The clean is good. Stands straight out. Doesn't even

:18:50. > :18:56.waste any energy. This is the problem. He's up to arm's length but

:18:57. > :19:01.he's not quite underneath the bar. Instead of pushing himself away, he

:19:02. > :19:05.needs to drive and split wider, if necessary, to get underneath. Get

:19:06. > :19:11.the back foot back further - is that what you're saying? No. If anything,

:19:12. > :19:15.front foot further forward. Typically in the jerks, the lifter

:19:16. > :19:21.almost backs away from the bar so you want to get further forward to

:19:22. > :19:27.get underneath. Bar must fall over centre of gravity, which must fall

:19:28. > :19:33.over base of support. Ismayilov just chilling out in the

:19:34. > :19:42.warm-up room. He was pretty happy with himself, wasn't he, after the

:19:43. > :20:03.snatch? Look at that physique. Just magnificent. So we're about to

:20:04. > :20:09.be inside the last minute. So the third and final attempt.

:20:10. > :20:11.177kg. Needs this to post a total and he's asking for support.

:20:12. > :20:23.CHEERING Good on him.

:20:24. > :20:42.Come on, let's get this bar. One attempt remaining. Come on! He

:20:43. > :20:45.stands, the clean is good. This time underneath but can't quite hold it.

:20:46. > :20:49.That's a shame. CHEERING

:20:50. > :20:54.And then there were ten. That... There's nothing you can do when you

:20:55. > :21:09.go that dizzy, when you see stars, you see black, you're light-headed.

:21:10. > :21:21.It's game over. We're down to ten lifters in the A

:21:22. > :21:24.group and the bar is currently being moved to 180kg for Mendoza of

:21:25. > :21:29.Mexico. It was a matter of centimetres. If the bar's not

:21:30. > :21:56.directly over your shoulders and hips, you're going to be struggling.

:21:57. > :22:02.While all this is going on, the Turks are going to go up as well.

:22:03. > :22:22.They're all going up! So they've just gone up to 181kg is it? Kingue

:22:23. > :22:26.of France has had an awfully long weight between attempts. You've got

:22:27. > :22:30.to keep your wits about you in terms of who's going to lift next when

:22:31. > :22:36.they all keep rushing out to the table and clearing new weights.

:22:37. > :22:52.Kingue has been successful at 175kg. His personal best is just 181kg. And

:22:53. > :23:12.there's 180kg on the bar now. He was well down on his personal

:23:13. > :23:30.best in the snatch. The judge is looking on.

:23:31. > :23:47.Steady, steady. Should be OK. It is. Well done.

:23:48. > :23:52.That puts him into second. So 180kg. As you say, it's almost

:23:53. > :23:56.forever since he's been out. It's difficult for the athletes to have

:23:57. > :24:00.to wait so long. Sometimes they do an extra warm-up lift to keep the

:24:01. > :24:22.legs ticking over. This is the first time we've seen

:24:23. > :24:27.him in the clean-and-jerk. He's got 181 on the bar, Artykov. With a best

:24:28. > :24:31.of 188kg, he's clearly stronger in the second part of the lift. Has to

:24:32. > :24:36.work hard on the clean but the jerk is very solid.

:24:37. > :24:43.So that moves him into first position for the moment.

:24:44. > :24:47.I think you'll find the Colombian may beble next out. That's the way

:24:48. > :24:52.the board appears at the moment but there doesn't appear to be movement

:24:53. > :24:56.from his coaches. Just keeps it moving, manages to stand, dip and

:24:57. > :25:01.drive is nice and straight. Covers front foot, back foot. There

:25:02. > :25:05.has been some movement. It's the Mexican that's out.

:25:06. > :25:24.Mendoza, 181kg. He missed his first two in the

:25:25. > :25:39.snatch, managed to arrange into the competition with a 145kg.

:25:40. > :25:48.Can he hold this? Looks like he can. He's got overhead. He wasn't keen on

:25:49. > :25:52.the clean. He's not particularly happy with it, is he? It's good

:25:53. > :25:56.enough to pass for a referee but from a technical point of view, he's

:25:57. > :25:59.pulling the arms as it comes off the floor. See how hard the bar hits him

:26:00. > :26:04.at the bottom. That's because he generated no float on the bar. Just

:26:05. > :26:11.very, very strong. Bosch.

:26:12. > :26:15.Mistimes. -- Bosh, mistimes, then has to work harder than news to

:26:16. > :26:22.stand. A bit of an arch in the lower back but he's OK.

:26:23. > :26:26.And here is the man that led after the snatch. He doesn't look - at

:26:27. > :26:32.least on paper in terms of his previous bests - he doesn't look as

:26:33. > :26:36.strong in the clean-and-jerk. He had a one kilogram lead after the

:26:37. > :26:40.snatch. This is to maintain his position in first for the moment.

:26:41. > :27:06.And there's 181kg on the bar. Pretty comfortable.

:27:07. > :27:09.Oh, wastes no time. That is probably the ugliest jerk you're going to see

:27:10. > :27:14.at this Olympic Games, but who cares? It's gone up, three white

:27:15. > :27:18.lights. I don't even know what to call that kind of jerk. Was it a

:27:19. > :27:21.split jerk? Was it a power. Somewhere in between? It was an

:27:22. > :27:33.Ismayilov jerk. It's an interesting phrase - the

:27:34. > :27:37.ugliest jerk you'll see at this Olympics. Don't say that to his

:27:38. > :27:42.face! I think he probably recognises that as well. That's a case of drive

:27:43. > :27:49.and just get under it somehow. Yeah, don't watch that one back home

:27:50. > :27:54.and try and copy it. There's only room on the score card

:27:55. > :27:57.for how much, not how it happened, and he's up there at the moment in

:27:58. > :28:01.first spot. Now, this lift for Calja would take him into fourth if he's

:28:02. > :28:06.successful. Again, he's lifting at 181kg.

:28:07. > :28:18.He's lifted 175kg so far. Second attempt.

:28:19. > :28:23.Two kilograms off his personal best. Grinds out of the clean. That's

:28:24. > :28:27.better jerk, much better position, hips under the bar, needs to stand

:28:28. > :28:36.still and he's got it. Well done.

:28:37. > :28:46.So 181kg and, of course, when I say he's in fourth position, remember

:28:47. > :28:52.we're talking about totals here. You can see just at the end there,

:28:53. > :28:57.the four, is where he sits. A bit short on the extension, but so

:28:58. > :29:04.fast under, uses the whip of shall shall width of the bar to stand up.

:29:05. > :29:09.Much, much better jerk than we saw in his previous attempt. Goes for a

:29:10. > :29:12.walk in the parks before standing still.

:29:13. > :29:17.Now, Mohd of Malaysia. This is his second attempt. This lift would

:29:18. > :29:22.bring him from 11th at the moment into sixth position. He had real

:29:23. > :29:27.struggles with the snatch. Nailed 160kg but then -- 140kg but then

:29:28. > :29:31.milled his next two attempts. -- missed his next two attempts.

:29:32. > :29:34.This is a personal best on the bar right now.

:29:35. > :29:41.By one kilogram. Ooh.

:29:42. > :29:53.Bad luck. Well, that was very sluggish, very... Lacking sparks

:29:54. > :30:00.through the middle part of the lift. It's funny. He's had a few failures.

:30:01. > :30:03.He's never stopped smiling but he's enjoying his games. There's no

:30:04. > :30:07.change in speed. Hangs on too much, tries to get more height on the bar,

:30:08. > :30:13.no float and then it's a race between him and the bar to the

:30:14. > :30:19.bottom, Barwon. -- bar won. So he'll have to come

:30:20. > :30:24.back out. All the other lifters are going to lift beyond 181kg, or at

:30:25. > :30:29.least attempt to lift beyond 181kg. What's happening there? So he's

:30:30. > :30:41.going to go up as well. Is it 182kg? Yeah. Which means that Triyatno, I

:30:42. > :30:44.think, is down at 182kg as well. Shi was 110kg on the bar, a squat jerk,

:30:45. > :30:51.clearly warming up OK. Looking pretty good.

:30:52. > :30:57.So Triyatno of Indonesia. Remember the silver medallist from London.

:30:58. > :31:05.But he's struggling here. This lift would put him into fifth.

:31:06. > :31:11.Second attempt at 182kg. Remember, this man is just 69kg himself.

:31:12. > :31:34.Indeed, slightly less than that. But it's remarkable anyway.

:31:35. > :31:43.Well, not to be. No, not to be. You may be asking why he's so far down

:31:44. > :31:47.on his best, which is 188kg. He had knee surgery back in 2013, so we

:31:48. > :31:52.just don't know how severe that was or how well he actually recovered

:31:53. > :31:58.from it. When was the 188kg? Olympic Games, 2012. When he picked up the

:31:59. > :32:07.silver. Just not quite back into that kind

:32:08. > :32:16.of shape just yet. Still competitive in the A group at

:32:17. > :32:22.the Olympic Games, though. He's going to have to come back out,

:32:23. > :32:25.is he? Or is he going up? What's going on there? We're just having a

:32:26. > :32:32.little look at what's happening here. So we'll come back to that,

:32:33. > :32:38.because the bar is still at 182kg and Kingue is making his way out.

:32:39. > :32:42.Third and final attempt. 182kg would represent a personal best for him

:32:43. > :33:17.and would move him into fifth position.

:33:18. > :33:23.At every lift, he's waited until the last possible second, hasn't he? He

:33:24. > :33:29.always has done. Out the back door. But he's still exceeded what he

:33:30. > :33:34.achieved in London. He's managed to post a total. Which he didn't

:33:35. > :33:45.achieve in London. Well done. And he'll leave with, um, let me just

:33:46. > :34:28.double check here... 320kg. And that leaves him in sixth place.

:34:29. > :34:32.Do yourself an injury. It's a little wonky. That technical

:34:33. > :34:36.term is contagious. I'm picking up a lot here, I tell you - wonky, dodgy,

:34:37. > :34:52.skew whiff. So he remains in 11th position.

:34:53. > :35:00.Oh, buried him at the bottom, didn't it? Just doesn't have the legs to

:35:01. > :35:18.stand. 316kg his total.

:35:19. > :35:26.So back with Triyatno at 182kg as well. Currently eighth. This would

:35:27. > :35:44.move him to fifth. His third Olympic Games. That's a

:35:45. > :35:49.good clean. Oh, unlucky. Third attempt, not to be. Well, his first

:35:50. > :35:55.Olympic Games produced a bronze, his second a silver, but no medals this

:35:56. > :36:24.time around for Triyatno, as he leaves with 317kg as his total.

:36:25. > :36:29.And he's in eighth place. And now the Colombian, Mosquera,

:36:30. > :36:34.with 183kg on the board. If he was to be successful, this would move

:36:35. > :36:40.him into second place. 155kg in the snatch.

:36:41. > :36:50.Power clean. Well, superpowerful for a very young

:36:51. > :36:56.man, just 21 years of age. He near enough powered that clean. Power, by

:36:57. > :37:02.definition, is catching it above a 90-degree knee bend. So he's sitting

:37:03. > :37:09.in second right now. And, as we've mentioned, battling a

:37:10. > :37:13.back injury. He'll be having that after the Rio Olympics are over. He

:37:14. > :37:22.sits in just below parallel but only just. Very, very explosive. Lost of

:37:23. > :37:25.fast-twitch fibres in those legs. So he needs to decide what he's

:37:26. > :37:41.going to do next. He's going to move up. He's nominated 187kg. So that

:37:42. > :37:46.will bring Calja to the platform. 184kg is where the bar is set. It's

:37:47. > :38:05.his third and final attempt and this would move him into fourth place

:38:06. > :38:09.forment moment. It would also produce a personal

:38:10. > :38:14.best for him. Just... No... Never looked switched on. Well, it's

:38:15. > :38:17.psychological. This game is far more than just being physically strong.

:38:18. > :38:23.It's being technically proficient but mentally ready and hungry for

:38:24. > :38:26.these weights. Just lacking in the mental strength department.

:38:27. > :38:31.He's been a little bit upset too with that left hand. It was bleeding

:38:32. > :38:35.during the snatch. He won't be feeling that pain right now.

:38:36. > :38:41.Don't use that as an execution. It's only pain. It's only a rip in the

:38:42. > :38:46.hand. He looks like he is using it as an excuse. He walked away looking

:38:47. > :38:54.straight at it. Just not mentally switched on that time around.

:38:55. > :39:00.OK. So the man that led after the snatch, Ismayilov, is looking to put

:39:01. > :39:04.himself back into first place. There's 185kg on the bar. This is a

:39:05. > :39:15.two kilograms personal best for him if he can achieve it.

:39:16. > :39:20.Are you backing him in? Yeah, I think he's got this. I'm just

:39:21. > :39:42.looking to see where the other guys are at and whether they can catch

:39:43. > :39:48.him after the snatch. Second attempt to move himself back

:39:49. > :39:56.into first position. CHEERING

:39:57. > :40:05.Was he ever stationary? The referees have given it to him. And he's got

:40:06. > :40:23.one more lift to come as well. So it was successful at 185kg.

:40:24. > :40:29.The clean was good. The jerk was just rough. But it went

:40:30. > :40:32.to arm's length and stayed there which is all that matters. He's

:40:33. > :40:39.moved to 192kg. He's got to. He's got to push it up. Bearing in mind

:40:40. > :40:42.now he only has one opportunity. He's put it right up to bring

:40:43. > :40:51.everybody else into the competition to see what's needed. I'm looking at

:40:52. > :40:54.the scoreboard and the man in question is six kilograms down after

:40:55. > :40:59.the snatch and body weight down so he needs to outlift Ismayilov by

:41:00. > :41:04.seven kilograms. Ismayilov has just done 185kg so he

:41:05. > :41:10.needs a 192kg. My gut feeling is he'll get one lift in and then go

:41:11. > :41:14.for it. So Mendoza. This to move himself into third if he can be

:41:15. > :41:22.successful. There's 187kg on the bar.

:41:23. > :41:26.That's one kilo under his personal best. He does have another attempt

:41:27. > :41:52.after this. Come on now. Again, it decks him at

:41:53. > :42:10.the bottom. Well, he's got some thinking to do.

:42:11. > :42:16.In terms of what he does next. He had a recorded 181kg at the clean

:42:17. > :42:21.and jerk. He's just missed a 187kg. What does he feel he's capable of?

:42:22. > :42:27.Because he's only got one lift left now.

:42:28. > :42:32.You can see the hips so far behind the bar. He puts his hips and lower

:42:33. > :42:43.back under stress. Good luck trying to hold that. It's safer to let go.

:42:44. > :42:48.And we still haven't seen Shi Zhiyong or the lifter from North

:42:49. > :42:56.Korea. The coach just flapping the towel there to try and create some

:42:57. > :43:04.air movement. It's pretty warm here in the venue. There's Kim Myong

:43:05. > :43:09.Hyok. He would have been ready to come out. Shi of China would have

:43:10. > :43:12.been ready as well. But the competition was slowed down by

:43:13. > :43:15.Mendoza taking the same weight again. That slows the competition

:43:16. > :43:19.down. The lifters have to be ready but they have to be prepared to wait

:43:20. > :43:24.a couple of minutes if something like this happens.

:43:25. > :43:29.So Mendoza is trying to put himself at least for the moment into medal

:43:30. > :43:34.contention. This would put him into third.

:43:35. > :43:40.And quite obviously, as you can see there, his last attempt.

:43:41. > :43:42.Fourth right now. Who knows what will happen ahead of

:43:43. > :44:12.him? Yep. And you were shaking your head

:44:13. > :44:15.up here in the commentary position. He just never looked convincing. And

:44:16. > :44:23.just the lack of timing on the clean. Pulls with his arms. And I

:44:24. > :44:26.think if you saw that in really slow motion, you'll see that there's

:44:27. > :44:32.hardly any upward momentum on the bar from when he starts to change

:44:33. > :44:35.direction. That's why it hits him so hard at the bottom. Just takes so

:44:36. > :44:39.much out of you to try and stand with a dead weight. The bar is

:44:40. > :44:43.clearly on his wind pipe. Not breathing there. When you put that

:44:44. > :44:45.much effort in, you're gonna get a rush to the head. We're getting to

:44:46. > :45:01.the business end of the competition. Shi Zhiyong of China. This lift to

:45:02. > :45:19.put him in first position. 188 kilos. A wonky starting position.

:45:20. > :45:23.Works for him. So strong in the legs.

:45:24. > :45:27.Here comes the squat jerk. There it is.

:45:28. > :45:34.And if you're good enough in your shoulders, if you have that

:45:35. > :45:37.flexibility, and you have the leg strength that Shi clearly does to

:45:38. > :45:38.stand up from that deep squat position again, then you can get

:45:39. > :45:57.away with it. So, he's out in front. The split jerk much more common. But

:45:58. > :45:59.talk us through the squat jerk. Well, theoretically, this is

:46:00. > :46:02.actually more efficient. Theoretically, you should be able to

:46:03. > :46:05.lift more with this kind of technique. The problem is very few

:46:06. > :46:10.people have the shoulder flexibility to be able to get into that

:46:11. > :46:11.position, with the hands quite close, and the leg strength to stand

:46:12. > :46:26.up again. This lift would take him to third

:46:27. > :46:30.position. 188. He was behind after the snatch.

:46:31. > :46:41.Oh, that's tough. That is impressive. No! I don't know. I

:46:42. > :46:46.think he may have failed that. He's celebrating as if he's got it. Two

:46:47. > :46:49.to one against. Reason being, he landed it in a solid position but

:46:50. > :46:56.then bent his elbows as he recovered. Error. And he knew he had

:46:57. > :47:03.done it. That's why he celebrated the way he did. Tried to convince

:47:04. > :47:09.the referees. And we'll just see this little elbow flex in a moment.

:47:10. > :47:12.So, it was the elbow furthest away from us. That's good. There's

:47:13. > :47:29.nothing wrong there. There. It bent. Artykov. This would put him into

:47:30. > :47:38.third position. Whoa. That's a tough clean.

:47:39. > :47:44.And he fights it. Can he push? Keeps pushing. Good job. Third place at

:47:45. > :48:01.the moment. Good on him. Gee, that was a struggle.

:48:02. > :48:09.He's just holding his back. One attempt remaining. He may need this

:48:10. > :48:15.last lift to stay on the podium. Worked so hard to stand. Just the

:48:16. > :48:18.hands. And very aggressive in the jerk phase. Sometimes you've just

:48:19. > :48:26.gotta dig deep and find that aggression from somewhere.

:48:27. > :48:33.Just pacing around the warm-up room. He's now sitting and waiting. Down

:48:34. > :48:38.in second place, though, at the moment. Kim Myong Hyok of North

:48:39. > :48:49.Korea, missed with his first attempt.

:48:50. > :48:55.A little glance at the clock. That's better.

:48:56. > :49:11.No. I tell you what, this could open things right up, if he misses again.

:49:12. > :49:13.He's not a happy chappy right now. He's now got one lift left remaining

:49:14. > :49:19.in the competition. And he's following himself. Yeah. So, he's

:49:20. > :49:28.gotta be back out here within two minutes. Oh, he's decided to move

:49:29. > :49:38.up. Well. Nothing to lose. All to gain. He's moving up probably to buy

:49:39. > :49:44.himself a bit more time. Just land this jerk OK, there's a couple more

:49:45. > :49:47.kilos there, but... But if you've missed 188 twice, then obviously to

:49:48. > :49:51.increase the bar, it's a risky strategy. It's risky, but if he

:49:52. > :49:55.takes that, he could end up being out of the medals. He's come here

:49:56. > :49:59.for one reason and one reason only - he wants something shiny. So,

:50:00. > :50:02.currently in second position, this to take him to first. He led after

:50:03. > :50:18.the snatch with 163. And right now has 188 on the bar.

:50:19. > :50:20.And this is his final lift. Five kilos up on any weight he

:50:21. > :50:35.previously posted. This is big. It will make a statement, though,

:50:36. > :50:42.give them something to chase. Can he? No. Oh!

:50:43. > :50:53.Good on him. Wow. Some focus there. Six out of six lifts. And I hope he

:50:54. > :50:59.ends up on the podium. The most consistent lifter of this

:51:00. > :51:05.competition today. Could not ask any more of himself. He's got to wait

:51:06. > :51:11.now and see where he finishes. Really good clean. Nice and strong.

:51:12. > :51:19.Forget how ugly the jerk is, just watch the arms. It goes nicely to

:51:20. > :51:23.arm's length. So, right now he holds a one-kilo lead. So, one fingernail

:51:24. > :51:27.on the gold medal. But he will need some things to go his way.

:51:28. > :51:44.Shi, 350. Where's the Colombian? 339. The Colombian is down at 338,

:51:45. > :51:50.in fourth. Here we go. What weight has been posted there? Let me see.

:51:51. > :51:57.This is where you've gotta be careful, when the Colombian's got

:51:58. > :52:09.carried away. Putting some big weights on the bar now. 189.

:52:10. > :52:13.Where is he? The clock is ticking. 45 seconds. He's on his way. Yep.

:52:14. > :52:31.They're moving around now. So, a lift to take him from fourth

:52:32. > :52:34.to third, to put himself into medal contention.

:52:35. > :52:46.Second attempt. It's been a long wait.

:52:47. > :53:11.But he's still got another shot. He has, but he's gotta force Artykov

:53:12. > :53:17.out for his third attempt first. And if successful, Mosquera may need to

:53:18. > :53:18.take another couple of kilos. The clean was explosive, stood up

:53:19. > :53:28.strong. Tried to catch it too high. This

:53:29. > :53:34.weight is too heavy now, he needs to drop lower. Artykov has gone up to

:53:35. > :53:39.190. Oh, no! This is... This is gamesmanship. This is nasty. He's

:53:40. > :53:45.thrown it straight back to Mosquera in the hope that he cannot recover

:53:46. > :53:48.quick enough. 42 seconds on the clock for Mosquera. Has he even

:53:49. > :53:57.noticed that he's been called? I don't know. So, the bar is at

:53:58. > :54:09.1896789 -- 189. He's gone up. He's gone up to 190 as well. So, now it's

:54:10. > :54:16.back to... The Chinese lifter, if he doesn't choose to go up. And he's

:54:17. > :54:20.not. So, Shi Zhiyong... This is just enough now to regain the lead. He's

:54:21. > :54:22.playing a sensible game. The other lifters left in the competition I

:54:23. > :54:27.don't think can challenge him overall. I think this is your gold

:54:28. > :54:31.medal lift. Is that right? You don't think they're gonna...? No. From the

:54:32. > :54:36.total, I'm pretty sure this is gonna be the gold medal lift to secure him

:54:37. > :54:40.victory. The others may outclean-and-jerk him, but it's

:54:41. > :54:43.irrelevant. There's no clean and jerk medals. I don't think they can

:54:44. > :54:50.catch him after the snash. -- snatch. So, a second attempt at 190.

:54:51. > :54:56.To put him into first place. Could well be the gold medal lift.

:54:57. > :55:09.And, remember, he's still gotta lift up his sleeve. Oh, how impressive is

:55:10. > :55:12.that? Well, I'm fairly sure you're witnessing your Olympic champion

:55:13. > :55:16.right there. Don't hold me to it, there's still a couple of lifters

:55:17. > :55:19.left - anything it possible. He's pretty happy with himself either

:55:20. > :55:26.way. I think he feels the same as you, that he's got enough up his

:55:27. > :55:36.sleeve. 190 for a total of 352. The only guy that can catch him is Myong

:55:37. > :55:40.of Peep's Republic of Korea. He's missed -- People's Republic of

:55:41. > :55:44.Korea. He's missed two clean and jerks so far. So straight in that

:55:45. > :55:58.position. Flat feet. Brilliant squat jerk. And after the gap in the

:55:59. > :56:03.snatch... A bit of a toying around for position, and jockeying. And

:56:04. > :56:05.this lift that we're about to see is for third place, to move Mosquera

:56:06. > :56:33.from fourth to third. It's a good clean again. Needs to

:56:34. > :56:39.drop lower under the bar now. For a shot at a bronze medal, potentially.

:56:40. > :56:43.Oh! When the bar is on your wind pipe and you can't see much, so

:56:44. > :56:57.frustrating. There's just nothing you can do. So, Mosquera stays in

:56:58. > :57:01.fourth position. Remember, Ismayilov has finished his lifting. He's at

:57:02. > :57:07.351. He's a kilo behind our leader. But he doesn't have a lift left. No.

:57:08. > :57:08.But he's in second place so far. I think he's probably gonna stay

:57:09. > :57:20.there. Artykov is coming out. Oh, hang on a

:57:21. > :57:27.minute. Have you seen the scoshed? -- the scoreboard? 196 - is that

:57:28. > :57:32.right? Yeah. 196. Equal to the... No, no, no. This is going to be -

:57:33. > :57:37.yes, it is. Equal to the Olympic record. And an attempt at getting

:57:38. > :57:43.into the medals. It would only bring him to - because

:57:44. > :57:47.his snatch was only 151. He was well behind. So, this would bring him

:57:48. > :57:55.into third position. So, my goodness me. Myong has gone from missing 188

:57:56. > :57:57.twice, he's gone to 196. He's going eyeballs out, attempting the weight

:57:58. > :58:06.for the gold medal. This competition is not over yet.

:58:07. > :58:10.So, this is some eight kilos beyond his personal best. It would equal

:58:11. > :58:13.the Olympic record. It's an attempt to get into the

:58:14. > :58:19.bronze medal position and it's gonna be a real struggle. No. Well, he's

:58:20. > :58:24.hurt himself there now as well. The previous attempt, I think, was on a

:58:25. > :58:28.limit. And he was holding his back after his previous attempt as well.

:58:29. > :58:42.He's gonna get some ice on that. It's gonna be sore for a few days.

:58:43. > :58:54.Well, this is a huge lift now. From Myong. This is a huge lift.

:58:55. > :59:00.Ismayilov is celebrating because he is guaranteed a place on the

:59:01. > :59:04.proceedum. So, just to put some perspective into this lift of Kim

:59:05. > :59:07.Myong Hyok of North Korea, if he lifts it, he's in gold medal

:59:08. > :59:10.position for the moment, because there's still another lift for a

:59:11. > :59:16.Chinese competitor. Is there not? Yes. Yeah, China has still got one

:59:17. > :59:21.more. So, if he lifts this, he would be in first. But if he misses it,

:59:22. > :59:23.he's off the podium, he's out of the competition. Eight kilos above

:59:24. > :59:29.anything he's done on the international stage before. This is

:59:30. > :59:37.massive. He's all in. And he's... Oh! And he's out. China have the

:59:38. > :59:41.gold. Guaranteed a gold medal now, whether he comes back out and lifts

:59:42. > :59:46.or not. Well, they have one more attempt remaining. He's posted 198.

:59:47. > :59:51.He's coming out. Is he gonna take 198? That equals the world clean and

:59:52. > :00:02.jerk record. And sets a new Olympic record.

:00:03. > :00:13.So, this would be a new world record total.

:00:14. > :00:23.Is my maths right? Yep, your math assist right. Your math ss is spot

:00:24. > :00:32.on -- your maths is spot on. So, the gold medallist is on screen. Right

:00:33. > :00:35.now. He's looking to add a massive exclaimation mark into his place in

:00:36. > :00:47.history with a new world record and a new Olympic record.

:00:48. > :00:59.Come on, now. Oh! How easy was that? Can he stand? Oh! Oh, it was close!

:01:00. > :01:07.It was oh, so close. But he's a gold medallist. No record tonight. But he

:01:08. > :01:14.came out, he didn't have to, he came out and had a crack. Well, Olympic

:01:15. > :01:30.champion, and he looks disappointed. That frustration will turn to

:01:31. > :01:34.smiles. And in the end, just the one-kilo difference between he and

:01:35. > :01:37.Ismayilov, the Turkish lifter. He takes the silver after the

:01:38. > :01:42.all-or-nothing attempt from the North Korean. It was a big risk,

:01:43. > :01:48.wasn't it? It was a huge risk. The North Korean clearly only came for

:01:49. > :01:56.one medal. And we should also point out that... Artykov has - he does,

:01:57. > :02:08.yes. He has the bronze medal. At 339. So, that really is a statement

:02:09. > :02:11.in terms of the mindset of the man from North Korea, it was, "I don't

:02:12. > :02:14.want anything other than gold." Because he could have lifted

:02:15. > :02:15.something - you could suggest, he could have lifted something to get

:02:16. > :02:30.himself ahead of 339. It was a great story that Shi has

:02:31. > :02:33.won the gold medal for China. Because he's the reigning world

:02:34. > :02:38.champion and was hoping to follow in the footsteps of his namesake, who

:02:39. > :02:42.won the very same division. What an incredible story at the 2004

:02:43. > :02:45.Olympics in Athens. He said in an interview, he didn't know anything

:02:46. > :02:49.about the previous one, but when he grew up and became a weightlifter,

:02:50. > :02:55.came to know the history of the previous Shi, put a lot of pressure

:02:56. > :02:59.on him. He won the world title in Houston last year. Many

:03:00. > :03:03.congratulations to Shi. Let's bring you up to date with

:03:04. > :03:11.what's been happening in the women's football. Clouma versus USA is the

:03:12. > :03:15.-- Columba versus USA is the game we're focusing on. They have been at

:03:16. > :03:19.every gold medal match since 1996. They also won the World Cup last

:03:20. > :03:25.year. They really are the team to beat. Tonight, Colombia gave it a

:03:26. > :03:29.go. Pugh putting the Americans 2-1 up.

:03:30. > :03:34.USA already through to the last stage, but look at this. Dramatic

:03:35. > :03:43.equaliser in the last minute of the game. Catalina, her second goal of

:03:44. > :03:44.the game. But the United States have already qualified. But great scenes

:03:45. > :03:44.there. the game. But the United States have

:03:45. > :03:48.already qualified. But great scenes there.

:03:49. > :03:54.Let's bring you right up to date with tonight's headlines.

:03:55. > :04:01.Another big shock in the tennis as Wimbledon champion and world number

:04:02. > :04:05.one Serena Williams beaten in straight sets by Ukraine's Elina

:04:06. > :04:08.Svitolina. Serena won singles and doubles in London four years ago.

:04:09. > :04:18.Has now been knocked out of both events in Rio.

:04:19. > :04:23.Konta reached the quarterfinals with a victory over Kuznetsova. She plays

:04:24. > :04:28.Kerber next. Much easier, I am pleased to report,

:04:29. > :04:33.for Andy Murray. A straight-sets win over Monaco. Took the spot in the

:04:34. > :04:39.last 16 in his place to defend his Olympic title he won in London.

:04:40. > :04:43.Sadly, Great Britain could not end an 88 yeemple wait for an Olympic

:04:44. > :04:47.medal in the women's -- 88-year wait for an Olympic medal in the women's

:04:48. > :04:54.team gymnastics. Simone - the first of what she hopes

:04:55. > :04:58.will be five medals in these Games. In the rugby sevens, Great Britain's

:04:59. > :05:03.men got their campaign under way with a win over Kenya and a

:05:04. > :05:06.hard-fought victory over Japan. Who had earlier surprisingly beaten New

:05:07. > :05:42.Zealand. Sonny Bill Williams out of the Games with an injury.

:05:43. > :05:47.Yep. It only comes around every four years, so do not go to bed. Stay on

:05:48. > :05:49.the sofa. Have years, so do not go to bed. Stay on

:05:50. > :05:58.the sofa. Have a great night with us.

:05:59. > :06:04.Stay up or set the alarm for one of the great Olympic showdowns. All

:06:05. > :06:11.eyes on GB's Andrew Willis and Craig Benson in the semifinals of the

:06:12. > :06:17.men's 200m breaststroke. That's at around 3:03. O'Connor goes for gold

:06:18. > :06:22.in the 4 x 200m individual medley final. Let's take you to the Olympic

:06:23. > :06:26.quotic Stadium. It hosts the swimming competitions of water polo

:06:27. > :06:32.finals. It has two swimming pools, one for the events and the other for

:06:33. > :06:35.warming up. The structure is temporary and will be dismantled

:06:36. > :06:39.after the Games. Good evening, Helen.

:06:40. > :06:45.Good evening. Yes, alongside me, Becky. And you might be thinking,

:06:46. > :06:49.Andy Jamieson. Good, we've let you out of your commentary box to look

:06:50. > :06:52.ahead to tonight's racing, because this could be the most fiercely

:06:53. > :06:55.fought contest of the competition so far. And the Brits are in and

:06:56. > :07:07.amongst it for medals, especially this lady.

:07:08. > :07:14.We are like a little family. Some of us have swum together for years. I

:07:15. > :07:17.have swum with Chris and Andrew for pretty much as long as I have been

:07:18. > :07:22.in the national centre. We are literally really, really close. And

:07:23. > :07:26.having Jess in the group as well, we push each other. I think it's

:07:27. > :07:29.brilliant we have such a good group. It's definitely a family environment

:07:30. > :07:33.and we all want each other to do well. It's so nice that we get to go

:07:34. > :07:35.to Rio together, because we are there for each other throughout the

:07:36. > :07:40.whole year. And then going over there together, we'll be there for

:07:41. > :07:43.each other whatever happens. That's really important in

:07:44. > :07:46.day-to-day training as well. I don't think any of us could do it on our

:07:47. > :07:50.own. Definitely not. It is such a hard sport. And the training is

:07:51. > :07:54.rickedzly intense. I think we all help each other, push each other on.

:07:55. > :07:58.We are all competitive. I don't think we'd be who we are out being

:07:59. > :08:05.competitive. We've all got that competitive streak.

:08:06. > :08:09.In London, it was just amazing. It was the best two weeks of my life. I

:08:10. > :08:12.think for any athlete, a home Olympic Games is a dream come true.

:08:13. > :08:16.You know, I was really young, so I didn't think I was gonna make the

:08:17. > :08:20.team. When I did, it was just an absolute whirlwind. I was very lucky

:08:21. > :08:23.that I was able to swim in the Olympic final of the relay. And that

:08:24. > :08:28.was brilliant. That was just a dream come true. It gave me that hunger to

:08:29. > :08:31.kind of want to go and do it again when I'm a bit older and I'm

:08:32. > :08:34.swimming quicker times now, so I'm hoping that this time in Rio I will

:08:35. > :08:40.be able to be in amongst it more, and hopefully swim well. Yeah.

:08:41. > :08:43.The Commonwealth Games was absolutely incredible. It was a

:08:44. > :08:48.dream week, really. You know, I couldn't have asked for it to go

:08:49. > :08:51.better. It was great being able to do another home-type Games. You

:08:52. > :08:54.know, it was in Scotland and I had most of my friends and family there.

:08:55. > :08:58.It was brilliant because we still had the UK home advantage. And I

:08:59. > :09:02.think it's definitely given me a lot of confidence, you know, that week

:09:03. > :09:06.was amazing. But the team, like, as well, we did really, really well.

:09:07. > :09:10.And I think the British swimming team have been on a massive roll

:09:11. > :09:13.since that. We put in good performances at all the major meets

:09:14. > :09:14.we have been going to. We're in a good place going into Rio. Fingers

:09:15. > :09:23.crossed we can keep it going. Now, there's a lot of love and

:09:24. > :09:28.respect for O'Connor from this table. Becky, just talk us through

:09:29. > :09:32.why she's such an impressive young woman? I think at 16, going to a

:09:33. > :09:38.home Olympics, not expecting to go, really. She made it on the 100m

:09:39. > :09:41.breaststroke and she just loved that experience. It was nice to share

:09:42. > :09:45.that Olympic Games with her, really. She's just come on so much since

:09:46. > :09:48.then. She's grown up so much. Even tactically, the way she approaches

:09:49. > :09:52.her races now, she used to go out a little bit too crazy and hang on.

:09:53. > :09:55.Whereas she's kind of learnt the event now and she really brings

:09:56. > :09:59.everything into it. Her skills are some of the best in the world. Her

:10:00. > :10:06.start is absolutely incredible. So, tonight she is gonna be up there,

:10:07. > :10:10.because her butterfly is good. For Siobhan, her backstroke is probably

:10:11. > :10:13.the weak one. It's gonna be interesting, because then her

:10:14. > :10:18.breaststroke is amazing. The Hungarian, one of the most dominant

:10:19. > :10:21.swimmers in the world, she's already got two golds at this Olympic Games.

:10:22. > :10:26.We should have seen her this morning, but what happened and what

:10:27. > :10:33.does that say about Siobhan? Interesting, because she pulled out

:10:34. > :10:36.of the it honey fly before the heat. What is interesting -- 200 fly

:10:37. > :10:41.before the heat. She's the iron lady. She can do everything. She can

:10:42. > :10:46.race, race, race around the world. She's pulled out before racing

:10:47. > :10:51.O'Connor. I think she's slightly worried about her. Yeah, she was on

:10:52. > :10:55.the start list, we expected to see her. We've interpreted that as she's

:10:56. > :10:59.running scared. Is that fair to say? Absolutely. What is fascinating,

:11:00. > :11:05.though, is the freestyle leg will be very, very interesting. Because

:11:06. > :11:11.Siobhan is a very good freestyler, but her competitor is a fantastic

:11:12. > :11:17.400m. I'm not sure we've seen her on the 200. Full credit to oconyr,

:11:18. > :11:21.because she has a lot of illness in the pool, but she's in phenomenal

:11:22. > :11:24.form. She's had a lot of illness, injury, loads of problems with her

:11:25. > :11:28.back. She's had a tough couple of years, but she's stayed at the top

:11:29. > :11:32.of her game. When it comes to major meets, she delivers. She does step

:11:33. > :11:36.up, relish the atmosphere and gets stuck in. She doesn't run scared

:11:37. > :11:42.when she's next to the Iron Lady at all. Siobhan is like, "Why can't she

:11:43. > :11:47.be beaten?" I love that attitude. We have to talk about Chad. We saw him

:11:48. > :11:51.in the semifinals of the 200m butterfly last night. And in the

:11:52. > :11:55.semifinals, he came head to head with the great Michael Phelps. Have

:11:56. > :12:06.a look at what happened in the room just before they went out to race.

:12:07. > :12:14.Phelps has always let his swimming do the talking! Look, he's growling

:12:15. > :12:20.like a dog! This is great television! It's great television!

:12:21. > :12:26.Look at his face! It's Phelps' face. He goes, like this angry... He's

:12:27. > :12:30.hilarious. This is a rivalry that was sparked in London, when Chad

:12:31. > :12:35.nicked his scalp for the 200 butterfly. He had never lost it for

:12:36. > :12:39.a decade. This is a real battle, isn't it? Yeah. What's interesting

:12:40. > :12:42.is there has been a lot of verbals. At the World Championships last

:12:43. > :12:47.year, Chad was on it, doing very well. Phelps wasn't there and he

:12:48. > :12:51.said, "The 200 fly is pretty slow at the moment. My event, I'm a 200 fly

:12:52. > :12:56.guy." Chad went back, boom, boom. Then he went really fast on the 100.

:12:57. > :13:01.That was the old, "Come on, then." And Phelps' face!!

:13:02. > :13:04.LAUGHS There's so much trash-talking out of

:13:05. > :13:09.the pool. We're gonna see that one a little later on. Also, a quick word

:13:10. > :13:13.on the relay. Because the British boys looked in good form?

:13:14. > :13:18.Unbelievable. They've still got James to put into that. Stephen

:13:19. > :13:24.Milne, Daniel Wallace in there. I forgot his name... Duncan Scott.

:13:25. > :13:28.Duncan Scott, who swum amazing this morning. Then James at the end.

:13:29. > :13:33.Interesting. Definitely a medal contention. Great to see how Duncan

:13:34. > :13:38.Scott backs up this morning, because of a phenomenal swim from the young

:13:39. > :13:41.Scott. We'll see him later on. And the boys in that relay. And, of

:13:42. > :13:47.course, O'Connor. We'll be back with you in half an

:13:48. > :13:53.hour. Hoping to talk to Bert as well. Phelps and he, they looked

:13:54. > :13:59.like two boxers going into a heavyweight clash, didn't they?

:14:00. > :14:04.Let's take a swin around to see what you -- swing around to see what you

:14:05. > :14:08.can watch right now. Volleyball, Germany against the Netherlands.

:14:09. > :14:10.Germany have a slender lead in the opening game. We've got a little bit

:14:11. > :14:15.of table tennis and hockey available for you tonight. So, on the red

:14:16. > :14:22.button, you can now watch this match. On the red putton. Belgium

:14:23. > :14:25.against Australia. Australia strongly fancied to win the gold

:14:26. > :14:31.medal. But Belgium lead by a goal to nil.

:14:32. > :14:34.But if you fancy a little bit of table tennis, then how about this?

:14:35. > :14:42.This is taking place right now. It's men's quarters. That's on your red

:14:43. > :14:46.button. And also, if you don't fancy a

:14:47. > :14:50.little bit of beach volleyball and you fancy the conventional game,

:14:51. > :14:57.indoor volleyball, that's available for you right now. That's online at

:14:58. > :15:00.our BBC app, Cuba against Egypt. Well, over the past few evening, we

:15:01. > :15:03.have been showing you some fantastic Olympic sports. One of the most

:15:04. > :15:13.exciting at the Olympics, of course, handball.

:15:14. > :15:19.Olympic handball is a fast-flowing, high-scoring, body contact game

:15:20. > :15:23.which is played over two halves of 30 minutes. It's played by two teams

:15:24. > :15:33.of seven players, six outfield players and a goalkeeper. Each goal

:15:34. > :15:36.is surrounded by a semischolar area. Only the defending goalkeeper is

:15:37. > :15:40.allowed in this area. Players can move with the ball by dribbling and

:15:41. > :15:44.passing in the same way that a basketball player would. They can

:15:45. > :15:48.block the ball with their head, chest, thighs and knees, but players

:15:49. > :15:52.cannot stand still with the ball for more than three seconds at a time.

:15:53. > :15:56.If a player commits a foul, the referee can award a free throw or a

:15:57. > :16:00.seven metres shot. It's taken from the seven metres line and is given

:16:01. > :16:02.when the referee rules that someone has prevented a goal-scoring

:16:03. > :16:07.opportunity. A free throw is like a free kick in

:16:08. > :16:12.football and is general taken from the spot where the foul occurred.

:16:13. > :16:17.But it's taken from the free throw line if it happens inside this area.

:16:18. > :16:22.Overtime is only played during the knockout phase if scores are tied at

:16:23. > :16:25.the end of eggulation time. If this happens, teams play five minutes'

:16:26. > :16:28.extra and only play another five minutes if the score is still tied.

:16:29. > :16:34.If the teams are still tied at the end of this overtime period, the

:16:35. > :16:39.result is decided by a shoot-out. Well, one of the best teams at the

:16:40. > :16:43.Games are Sweden. They won the silver medal in London 2012. But

:16:44. > :16:46.interesting story - and they got to Brazil via the Olympic qualification

:16:47. > :16:51.tournament in April. So, let's see how they get on against Egypt. 22-22

:16:52. > :16:51.in the second half, around ten minutes

:16:52. > :16:52.how they get on against Egypt. 22-22 in the second half, around ten

:16:53. > :17:16.minutes remaining. Gingerly passing the ball around. 13

:17:17. > :17:21.turnovers suffered by Sweden. That's a product of the defence that

:17:22. > :17:23.Egypt have put up against them, which is really aggressive. Very

:17:24. > :17:34.quick right up against them. Oh! What a shot! Elahmar lets rip with a

:17:35. > :17:38.missile shot. And they're in front. Egypt leads Sweden. Oh, put it back

:17:39. > :17:44.down again. I think he was off-balance and was about to fall.

:17:45. > :17:50.Look at this. Andersson, who was just a draft to him. Got his fingers

:17:51. > :17:58.to it, but there was too much four. -- power. Wonderful reaction from

:17:59. > :18:46.Elahmar. Time out called by Sweden. Let's listen in.

:18:47. > :18:57.He was taking too long with his team, trying to get the tactics out.

:18:58. > :18:58.The teams return. For what should be an intense last eight minutes of

:18:59. > :19:21.this match. Iilsson has moved into the centre.

:19:22. > :19:29.Again, he fumbles the ball a bit, Lucas Nilsson. All the way through.

:19:30. > :19:35.That's nicely done. A little sidestep and Gotingco gets hits

:19:36. > :19:40.second. They're back -- and Gott, from ridsson gets his

:19:41. > :19:47.Sweden after this have to play Poland, Brazil and Germany. While

:19:48. > :19:53.for Sweden, it's no easier, Slovenia, Poland and Brazil as well.

:19:54. > :19:55.It's gonna be a very tight group, with only the top four teams going

:19:56. > :20:06.through to the quarterfinal. Defeat here will really put their

:20:07. > :20:11.backs to the wall, whichever side will fail to get the points. Frankly

:20:12. > :20:19.said, points won't be a great result either, formula group where

:20:20. > :20:26.everything counts, everything. So, Elahmar still relatively static.

:20:27. > :20:30.Straight down the middle. Kim Andersson looks to the right.

:20:31. > :20:39.There's a chance now for an overlap. Yes! Quickly taken up. Moved it up.

:20:40. > :20:43.And Kim... In fact, Lukas Nilsson, rather. I'm getting carried away.

:20:44. > :20:45.The back player raced ahead. A bit of a slap in the face. Kept his

:20:46. > :21:01.composure. After that little slap, I'm afraid,

:21:02. > :21:04.that a player has got himself sent off. Sweden wrestle the lead back

:21:05. > :21:29.again and have a power play. The foul by Gottfridsson on Elahmar.

:21:30. > :21:32.The 32-year-old legendary captain of the Egyptian team. Five World

:21:33. > :21:41.Championships and this his third Olympics. Trying to push up a bit.

:21:42. > :21:44.Here he comes. Oh, goes down. Looks to the referee and a handshake from

:21:45. > :21:50.Kim Andersson there. He realises he caught him high.

:21:51. > :21:59.Elahmar slows things down a little built, because he hasn't got his

:22:00. > :22:06.mobility here. Clearly suffering. Oh! What a shot!

:22:07. > :22:13.It's so unconventional. They're catching out the Swedes again and

:22:14. > :22:17.again. At the one end with a deep defence.

:22:18. > :22:23.Gottfridsson's shirt ripped. Luckily they've got a spare, but he's

:22:24. > :22:29.struggling to get it on. Meanwhile, they're attacking short handed.

:22:30. > :22:42.Five minutes remaining. It's all square between Egypt and Sweden.

:22:43. > :22:45.Into the wing. Oh! Good save! 25-year-old keeper plays for

:22:46. > :22:54.Al-Gaesh, six in the Egyptian Leigh. Gets his leg to it in frustration.

:22:55. > :23:00.And Egypt are back to full strength again. They've done well. They've

:23:01. > :23:07.weathered the storm while they were short handed. It's still all square.

:23:08. > :23:13.The saves nine now for the combined Andersson and Appelgren. Four for

:23:14. > :23:20.the Egyptian keepers. Elahmar. Into the line. Well intercepted. Lucky,

:23:21. > :23:24.Mohamed was quick to pick up the loose ball. Nilsson dived for it but

:23:25. > :23:42.he got there first. Very quick, indeed, Mohamed. Plays

:23:43. > :23:45.in the United Arab Emirates. 19 goals last year.

:23:46. > :23:58.Top scorer, of course, was Elahmar. He had 27. Indeed the last four

:23:59. > :24:12.minutes. Into the wing. It's over the top! He was inside anyway. A

:24:13. > :24:17.chance really missed there. Abouebaid. Gottfridsson got

:24:18. > :24:20.sandwiched on the way around. Oh, a little bit of a confrontation there.

:24:21. > :24:27.Nothing serious, though. He did slap down on him.

:24:28. > :24:36.So, play resumes. Cool heads required now in these last 3.5

:24:37. > :24:48.minutes by both teams. Still Egypt with its deep defence. No way

:24:49. > :24:55.through there for Petersen into the wing. There's no space either there.

:24:56. > :25:01.A suspension for Egypt. And off goes El-Masry. He got two two-minute

:25:02. > :25:05.suspensions in the opening game. Here he is again, holding on to

:25:06. > :25:09.Nilsson. Well, he's holding him. He probably says, "Well, this happens

:25:10. > :25:12.all the time in the game." Wasn't shirt-pulling. He goes off rather

:25:13. > :25:16.reluctantly. But the clock has been stopped. It makes no difference.

:25:17. > :25:19.Three minutes and five seconds of the game remaining.

:25:20. > :25:24.And Egypt will be short handed for two minutes of those.

:25:25. > :25:32.Oh! Good save again! Khalil coming into his own late on in the game. A

:25:33. > :26:08.great play by the 25-year-old. A little crossover. N waiting on

:26:09. > :26:10.this side here. Briefly took the goalkeeper out. They've got him back

:26:11. > :26:16.in again now. Waiting there for Elahmar. Still one

:26:17. > :26:24.minute before Egypt are back to full strength again.

:26:25. > :26:33.Oh! And a two-minute suspension now. And Sweden will finish the match

:26:34. > :26:37.short handed. We're inside the last two minutes. And Nilsson gets his

:26:38. > :26:41.second two-minute suspension. Mind you, that's academic, because he

:26:42. > :26:44.won't be coming back to play. Surely it looked as if the player had lost

:26:45. > :26:52.his footing before. But it's the way it is. So, both teams short handed

:26:53. > :26:55.for the next 52 seconds. But then Egypt will have a chance to finish

:26:56. > :27:03.the game on a power play. It could just turn it for them. Elahmar

:27:04. > :27:28.looking for the options. Went in. The captain didn't quite

:27:29. > :27:33.connect with him, and he takes the shot. And that could be the turning

:27:34. > :27:37.point. Team time out for Sweden. Last one for them.

:27:38. > :28:36.We'll listen in. All the emotion.

:28:37. > :28:40.LAUGHS The game so far, so 1.5 minutes

:28:41. > :28:49.remaining. Egypt about to get a power play. Oh, yes! It's back

:28:50. > :28:53.again! Courtesy of the left back, Lukas Nilsson. Fourth goal for him,

:28:54. > :28:58.and of the 19-year-old kept his head. Went between the defenders and

:28:59. > :29:01.under the keeper for the shot. It's all square again. 25-25. One minute

:29:02. > :29:10.left. And now it's a power play for Egypt.

:29:11. > :29:19.Nine players moved up to stand in front of Elahmar. Two on the line

:29:20. > :29:22.now. Mohamed waiting on the far side. Into the wing, there's no

:29:23. > :29:31.space for the pass there. Two on the line again. Takes the shot. They've

:29:32. > :29:42.stopped the clock with 35 secs. And Mohamed can't believe it. And

:29:43. > :29:55.Andersson... Two-minute suspension, is it? No. It's for Nilsson. -- it's

:29:56. > :29:59.for Jesper Nielsen. Well, well, well, drama at the end. And another

:30:00. > :30:03.team time out for Egypt. Andersson is suspended.

:30:04. > :30:53.Well, drama here in Rio. In this Group B match. Now Sweden are

:30:54. > :30:57.staring at another defeat. Play about to resume after team time out

:30:58. > :31:05.for Egypt. And Sweden. With a double suspension now.

:31:06. > :31:11.Nielsen is off and now also Kim Andersson. And surely a great chance

:31:12. > :31:18.now, with 35 seconds to go, for Egypt to score a winning goal here.

:31:19. > :31:23.Ramadan. No rush. It's longer than you think. This would be an historic

:31:24. > :31:31.win for Egypt. Really put them in a good position

:31:32. > :31:37.to go through to the quarterfinals. Intense at the back in goal. Trying

:31:38. > :31:43.to make it long but there won't be a chance now... Yes! Egypt are in

:31:44. > :31:47.front! Incredible scenes. Elbassiouny runs off. Sweden now

:31:48. > :31:55.looking for the equaliser. Seconds ticking away. And it's blocked! And

:31:56. > :32:02.Egypt for the first time have beaten Sweden! Incredible scenes. He jumps

:32:03. > :32:08.up on the bench! The Swedes can't believe it. The double suspension

:32:09. > :32:14.handed Egypt the chance to score. And it came courtesy of the

:32:15. > :32:20.25-year-old Elbassiouny. Stefan Olson can't believe it. Walks away.

:32:21. > :32:31.Forlorn. Sanad with seven goals. Top-scored for Egypt. Set them up

:32:32. > :32:34.beautifully. Elahmar couldn't be as influential for the team, but he

:32:35. > :32:38.didn't need to be. They all pulled together. Sweden, dejected. Their

:32:39. > :32:44.chances of going through to the quarterfinal take a severe knock

:32:45. > :32:47.here. Well, these are the Olympic moments that you really remember.

:32:48. > :32:52.What a fantastic night for Egyptian handball. They now take on Poland

:32:53. > :32:56.and Brazil, and the top four qualify from Group A and Group B. So, Egypt

:32:57. > :33:00.have a fantastic chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals.

:33:01. > :33:04.And Sweden's future in this Rio Olympics hangs in the balance.

:33:05. > :33:09.Well, let's bring you a little bit of men's hockey now, because GB have

:33:10. > :33:17.been taking on Brazil. Let's find out how they get on.

:33:18. > :33:23.Lots of noise from the Brazilian fans. They'd love their side to get

:33:24. > :33:26.a goal. That's the one thing they haven't done so far in the

:33:27. > :33:31.tournament. Conceded 19, scored none. Great Britain penalised.

:33:32. > :33:34.Michael Hall not backing away the requisite five yards. Talking about

:33:35. > :33:40.Brazil wanting a goal. Is this their first chance?

:33:41. > :33:48.Flicked inside. Scores! Oh, my word. What a start! He nails it for

:33:49. > :33:56.Brazil. Their first goal of the Olympics. Brazil, 1, Great Britain,

:33:57. > :33:59.0. Coming forward now. Over the top. Flicks it forward. They're looking

:34:00. > :34:06.for a a shooting opportunity. Here's one. Good save. That's too good.

:34:07. > :34:09.That's a goal for Great Britain. Here, underneath the ball, over the

:34:10. > :34:15.top of the glove, in for the equaliser.

:34:16. > :34:20.Middleton inside the circle. Might go for the reverse and scores.

:34:21. > :34:23.Comfortable goal. Barry Middleton finds the back of the net. And Great

:34:24. > :34:29.Britain lead Brazil by two goals to one.

:34:30. > :34:38.Ashley Jackson. Scores! Great Britain, 3-1 in front. The penalty

:34:39. > :34:44.corner expert back on the field. And he makes it pay immediately.

:34:45. > :34:49.Taking it shoulder-high. There's a real scramble going on there. It's

:34:50. > :34:52.found the babbling of the net. It's a goal for Great Britain -- the back

:34:53. > :34:55.of the net. It's a goal for Great Britain. What a mess that was. But

:34:56. > :35:04.it's Harry Martin who gets the score. Harry Middleton just in front

:35:05. > :35:10.of the goal. Oh, it's a terrific strike. And abbrilliant goal from

:35:11. > :35:17.Sam Ward. Great Britain, 5-1 in front now. Now, Great Britain with

:35:18. > :35:21.9.5 minutes to go, are pulling their keeper. They're going to an 11-man

:35:22. > :35:35.outfield unit. They know they need goals.

:35:36. > :35:43.It's flicked. It's a goal for Barry Middleton. Middleton's second.

:35:44. > :35:49.Here's the goal. Beautifully finished that time by Mark. Oh,

:35:50. > :35:56.that'sal lovely move forward. Middleton tries to lob the keeper.

:35:57. > :35:59.That's a penalty strike on the line. That's been drilled past his feet.

:36:00. > :36:07.Absolutely nailed the cover defender. Jackson top corner.

:36:08. > :36:19.Brazil, 1. Great Britain, 8. Brazil still looking for the goal as

:36:20. > :36:29.they get towards the circle. Push forward.

:36:30. > :36:36.Left-hand on the stick. Jackson, plenty of pace, all the way to the

:36:37. > :36:42.circle. Back and across the field. And finished. And that is a score

:36:43. > :36:47.for Sam Ward. Super strike from Jackson. Get the blade on it. Sam

:36:48. > :36:50.Ward, on his nose as we so often see, he's the man if you want

:36:51. > :36:55.someone to get yourself in the danger area, he's the one to get

:36:56. > :36:57.there. Brazil, 1, Great Britain, 9. We don't know whether a goal

:36:58. > :37:02.difference will make a difference or not, so we obviously wanted to keep

:37:03. > :37:06.scoring some goals. The last ten minutes I just felt that Brazil had

:37:07. > :37:09.tired because they had to do so much defending they actually became less

:37:10. > :37:13.of a threat in attack. That was why we could do it and that's why we

:37:14. > :37:16.could put another player up front. Didn't want to do it much earlier,

:37:17. > :37:19.but, yeah, that was the reason. What have you made of the progress so

:37:20. > :37:22.far? Obviously there was disappointment of the first match

:37:23. > :37:26.against Belgium. Bit better against New Zealand. Has it been

:37:27. > :37:32.progression, in your mind? I think it has. Without a doubt, we were

:37:33. > :37:35.poor in the first game. A lot of soul-searching after that. Even the

:37:36. > :37:39.New Zealand game, we improved a lot but were disappointed with a lot of

:37:40. > :37:43.our play. But we're getting better. Obviously tonight is a very

:37:44. > :37:49.different game to the rest of the tournament. Confident we can still

:37:50. > :37:53.play our best hockey. So, Great Britain recovering from a

:37:54. > :37:57.surprise Brazil opener. Brazil leading at one stage. Ranked 30th in

:37:58. > :38:01.the world. Completely outplayed in the end by GB. Third in the table

:38:02. > :38:05.after losing to Belgium and a draw with New Zealand.

:38:06. > :38:09.OK, it is time for a little bit of live ping-pong. Because we've

:38:10. > :38:14.reached the quarterfinals of the men's singles. And the favourite for

:38:15. > :38:17.the gold medal is China's Long. He has been world number one since

:38:18. > :38:24.March 2015. The reigning and World Cup champion. Just needs an Olympic

:38:25. > :38:27.gold to complete the set. He's playing a Nigerian player, Quadri.

:38:28. > :38:36.Your match commentator, Donald Parker.

:38:37. > :38:49.The Nigerian going for the topspin down the line. Didn't quite make it.

:38:50. > :39:03.Fairly prolonged applause there. Obviously maybe the nerves creeping

:39:04. > :39:13.in even for Ma Long. The final of the Olympic Games, the one title

:39:14. > :39:14.that's eluded him. China lead 4-3. Second serve coming

:39:15. > :39:27.up. Oh, he's so strong. He can lean and

:39:28. > :39:29.still get in with a strong forehand topspin. So powerful on both wings.

:39:30. > :39:44.The complete player. Even when he's stretching, he can

:39:45. > :40:06.still get power into the shot. The serve drifted long from Aruna

:40:07. > :40:12.Quadri. And Ma Long now beginning to dominate this first game. Leads 7-3.

:40:13. > :40:16.The Nigerian coach there looking on. His player started well but Ma Long

:40:17. > :40:34.has dominated the last four or five points.

:40:35. > :40:41.8-3. The world's number one, the number one seed here, pulling away

:40:42. > :40:53.from the Nigerian challenger. 8-3. First game. Best of seven

:40:54. > :40:56.games. First player to win four going through to the semifinal.

:40:57. > :41:03.Backspin on the serve there. Used his wrists. Ma Long came underneath

:41:04. > :41:05.the ball. Imparted heavy backspin. Aruna Quadri just not quite lifting

:41:06. > :41:22.the spin sufficiently. Ma Long will be a lot more

:41:23. > :41:26.comfortable now. Always a bit nerve-racking, the first few points.

:41:27. > :41:30.Oh! Not only did he block that back, but he used elbow and wrist and put

:41:31. > :41:46.topspin on the ball as well. Six game points for Ma Long.

:41:47. > :41:54.Forehand topspin out wide to the Nigerian player's forehand. And the

:41:55. > :42:08.first game to Ma Long, 11-4. Ma Long leads by one game to nil.

:42:09. > :42:12.Players now taking advice from the coaches. And certainly the Nigerian

:42:13. > :42:25.coach, plenty to say. 11-4, first game, Ma Long.

:42:26. > :43:04.Confirmation on screen. UMPIRE: Second game. Ma Long to

:43:05. > :43:07.serve. Second game. Ma Long of China to

:43:08. > :43:24.serve. He leads by one game to nil. Very difficult to win points against

:43:25. > :43:26.Ma Long when he's up at the table playing topspins and you're away

:43:27. > :43:34.from the table. Aruna Quadri there doing his best.

:43:35. > :43:44.And doing very well. But not quite good enough to win the point.

:43:45. > :43:49.Long serve deep into the backhand of Aruna Quadri. Stepped around, didn't

:43:50. > :43:59.lift the spin. And the ball into the bottom of the net.

:44:00. > :44:07.That's where Ma Long is so strong. He makes a good topspin. Aruna

:44:08. > :44:10.Quadri plays an excellent counter topspin, but Ma Long is able to get

:44:11. > :44:14.across the table so quickly against most players, that was a winner from

:44:15. > :44:23.the Nigerian player, not against the world champion. Quick on his feet.

:44:24. > :44:24.Very quickly around the backhand there to play that forehand topspin

:44:25. > :44:36.straight down the line as well. Down the line is difficult. It's a

:44:37. > :44:39.shorter target to aim for. The serve took Aruna Quadri

:44:40. > :44:45.completely by surprise there. He thought he was going short. He

:44:46. > :44:47.stepped into the table and then a rocket came on the diagonal into his

:44:48. > :45:31.body. Playing the angles ever so well, Ma

:45:32. > :45:37.Long. The serve drifted long from Aruna Quadri. And Ma Long pounces on

:45:38. > :45:38.the opportunity. Fast forehand topspin back into the body of Aruna

:45:39. > :46:22.Quadri. 9-1. The world champion races into

:46:23. > :46:26.the lead. And Aruna Quadri just pointing out the ball is cracked.

:46:27. > :46:28.It's interesting that the ball has changed from what was a celluloid

:46:29. > :46:49.ball to now a plastic ball. Ma Long leads 10-1. Nine game

:46:50. > :47:20.points. Forehand topspin from wide on the

:47:21. > :47:26.backhand for Ma Long, and a comfortable 11-2 victory for the

:47:27. > :47:31.world's number one player. Aruna now makes his way back to the Nigerian

:47:32. > :47:39.coach. And between them they have a tough task in front of them.

:47:40. > :47:45.That's a great start then for Ma Long. That match continues on the

:47:46. > :47:48.red button. So, if you want to continue watching the table tennis,

:47:49. > :47:52.press red now. In the meantime, we are now going to

:47:53. > :48:01.concentrate on the women's football, because it's a big night for Brazil.

:48:02. > :48:06.They're taking on - forget Neymar, this tournament is very much about

:48:07. > :48:10.Marta. Samba, sunshine and soccer - that's

:48:11. > :48:14.Rio in three words. In a country where football is a way of life for

:48:15. > :48:18.all the family, you might be surprised to hear that the Brazilian

:48:19. > :48:22.women's national team is beset with rows over contracts and a lack of

:48:23. > :48:27.investment. But they haven't let that hold them back. Their squad is

:48:28. > :48:33.sparkling with stars. They swept China away even before the Games had

:48:34. > :48:37.officially opened. 3-0, the score. A record goal scorer in Olympic

:48:38. > :48:43.history, adding another to her tally in the dying minutes of the game.

:48:44. > :48:48.Next came Sweden, a tougher task. The Swedish lead is one of the best

:48:49. > :48:54.in the world. But there was a race. Two goals for five-time world player

:48:55. > :48:59.of the year, Marta, and another for Krist acres, n, stretching her

:49:00. > :49:02.Olympic rrd to 14. Brazil topped their group, with the men struggling

:49:03. > :49:10.to qualify, drawing most recently with Iraq. It's over to the girls.

:49:11. > :49:16.Yes, it's Brazil taking on South Africa. Marta is better than Neymar,

:49:17. > :49:22.the fans have been chanting. The five-time World Player of the Year

:49:23. > :49:25.led her side to their second consecutive win in front of fans in

:49:26. > :49:29.Rio. They're taking on South Africa. The stadium built for the 2014 FIFA

:49:30. > :49:32.World Cup. The stadium hosting six matches in the group stages of the

:49:33. > :49:35.football tournament. The city, of course, in the Amazon Rainforest.

:49:36. > :49:40.And the match is gonna be live on the red button very shortly. So, if

:49:41. > :49:41.you want Brazil against South Africa in the women's football tournament,

:49:42. > :49:54.press red now. # The heat is on

:49:55. > :50:01.# # The heat is...

:50:02. > :50:05.# On. #

:50:06. > :50:15.Yes. We're heading back to the Olympic Aquatic Stadium, located at

:50:16. > :50:21.the Olympic Park at the heart of the games. Helen, I hear you have a very

:50:22. > :50:25.special guest? We We do. We have a very world-famous guest, but also a

:50:26. > :50:30.very nervous guest. Bert is getting ready to watch his son, Chad, defend

:50:31. > :50:34.his Olympic title. A title he won four years ago. It's fair to say -

:50:35. > :50:37.it's a complete understatement to say that since then life for the

:50:38. > :50:44.family has been a real roller-coaster.

:50:45. > :50:49.Everything was that perfect moment. You know, on 31 July 2012, my dream

:50:50. > :50:53.came true. You have to remember, Michael Phelps was unbeaten in that

:50:54. > :50:58.for a decade. Chad took that away from him. I never expected him to

:50:59. > :51:04.win a pedal. I have to pinch myself. It was nobody. We were nobody. There

:51:05. > :51:08.was no pressure.ment expectation was zero.

:51:09. > :51:12.COMMENTATOR: Michael Phelps, I think, is gonna win. Is he gonna

:51:13. > :51:18.create history by winning this race for the third time in a row? Chad Le

:51:19. > :51:24.Clos is chasing him. I don't think he got it. He did not get it, oh, my

:51:25. > :51:29.goodness me, Chad Le Clos got the gold. I was a 20-year-old kid,

:51:30. > :51:33.getting thrown in the deep end efficient everything. I didn't know

:51:34. > :51:37.how to be famous. You can never prepare yourself for the different

:51:38. > :51:42.angles that will come at you. It became a whirlwind. It slowly

:51:43. > :51:47.spiralled out of control. Here is Chad's father, Bert. Unbelievable.

:51:48. > :51:50.What a performance! Unbelievable. He's the most down-to-earth,

:51:51. > :51:54.beautiful boy you ever meet in your life. His celebrity status went to

:51:55. > :51:58.another level. "You're on the telly. Can I have a photograph with you?"

:51:59. > :52:07.I'm like Kim Kardashian. It's ridiculous! Chad changed his life.

:52:08. > :52:11.Our bond is unbelievable. We are the best, best, best, best, best

:52:12. > :52:15.friends. Yeah, he's a good father. Bert has been diagnosed with early

:52:16. > :52:20.stages of prostate cancer. The moment that he told me, really, was,

:52:21. > :52:25.uh, a few months ago. You know, he came and he just sat us all down and

:52:26. > :52:29.it was quite hard for me, because sometimes it's overwhelming. You

:52:30. > :52:40.know? You don't expect it to be, uh, you know, your dad or anybody that

:52:41. > :52:46.you know. He's lost 30 kilos, in, what, six, seven months. For my dad

:52:47. > :52:49.to lose 30 kilos, you must understand how much my dad loves

:52:50. > :52:54.eating. There's my food. Look at his. So, what's happened is, um,

:52:55. > :53:01.it's come as a complete shock, because I had felt a lump, and I

:53:02. > :53:05.was, like, "No. " I checked it, felt it, felt it. It was a big lump.

:53:06. > :53:10.Having this happen at this time is terrible. You know, I would rather

:53:11. > :53:15.have my mum and my dad be healthy than win any gold medal.

:53:16. > :53:19.It's definitely been the most difficult few months of my life, you

:53:20. > :53:22.know? Family-wise, everything else, the swimming, the pressure from the

:53:23. > :53:27.Olympic Games, it's all kind of come together. But in saying that, I feel

:53:28. > :53:32.like I've never trained as marred as I am now. You know -- as hard as I

:53:33. > :53:35.am now. You know, if you're swimming for something bigger than yourself,

:53:36. > :53:38.you'll achieve great things. I always swim for my family and my

:53:39. > :53:42.support. I feel at the end of the day, I will make them proud. Win,

:53:43. > :53:51.lose or draw, I will make them proud. It's fair to say the world

:53:52. > :53:55.fell in love with your son and your family in 2012. I know a lot of

:53:56. > :54:00.people are wondering how are you, how sl Geraldine, both dealing with

:54:01. > :54:03.cancer? It's not about me. People who know about prostate cancer, it's

:54:04. > :54:11.something that most people die, from. Anyway, I had it out because

:54:12. > :54:15.of circumstances, because of Rio. I'm not gonna - it's all about my

:54:16. > :54:19.wife. My wife is all right. She's gonna be all right. She's doing

:54:20. > :54:22.chemo. It isn't easy. Anybody who knows about cancer and chemo, it's

:54:23. > :54:26.horrific. Don't wish it on your worst enemy. Sadly, cancer is

:54:27. > :54:29.something that a lot of people are dealing with. A lot of people would

:54:30. > :54:34.empathise with you. But Geraldine is just down there. She's looking in

:54:35. > :54:40.great form. How has this all affected Chad? Look, that we will

:54:41. > :54:45.never know, you know? But at the end of the day, it is what it is. And

:54:46. > :54:50.it's the hand that a family has been dealt. People don't believe it that,

:54:51. > :55:00.you know, I want other families to look at this, at my boy, and look

:55:01. > :55:03.and think that's the way to behave, with adversity. Not take drugs or go

:55:04. > :55:07.drinking or go hit people. Because it is what it is, you know? And he's

:55:08. > :55:11.had that. And, you know? And he's using it in a positive way. Should I

:55:12. > :55:15.say it that way, you know what I mean? And, like, I want to repeat

:55:16. > :55:18.myself. Down there is the champion, not me. You know? You should

:55:19. > :55:23.actually be talking to her. Not to me. You're referring to your wife

:55:24. > :55:27.down there. I mean that. She's the king and the queen. And I'm just one

:55:28. > :55:32.of the peasants. I promise you. I swear to God. I mean it. She's the

:55:33. > :55:36.matriarch of the family. Chad is close to both of you. Leading up to

:55:37. > :55:41.the Olympics, you didn't see him for three months. You caught up earlier

:55:42. > :55:44.in the week. How was that? We bawled our eyes out. I don't know if you

:55:45. > :55:48.understand. All of us, including Chad, we cried like babies, you

:55:49. > :55:53.know? It was really emotional. Hadn't seen him for so long. It was

:55:54. > :55:58.like you cut my right hand off, you know, I can't even use my left hand.

:55:59. > :56:01.I promise you. He is putting you through the wringer. Emotionally,

:56:02. > :56:06.you hadn't seen him for so long. Last night in the pool, you were

:56:07. > :56:10.jumping around. In that 200 free, he went out there like a bullet from a

:56:11. > :56:14.gun. He's a lion! He's a lion. He's a beautiful lion, from Africa!

:56:15. > :56:17.That's where the lions come from. No, no. Look, let's not talk about

:56:18. > :56:21.that race, because that's another race. Tonight is another race, and

:56:22. > :56:26.we'll see afterwards, it's gonna be a beautiful race. Never mind a lion.

:56:27. > :56:29.Last night he was a boxer. What was going on in that call room? Is that

:56:30. > :56:33.something you've talked about? Not really. He was warming up. The

:56:34. > :56:39.Americans make a big thing out of nothing. He was warming up. What

:56:40. > :56:45.they say? Nothing. Guys do things in the room, I'm sure. Mark has done

:56:46. > :56:50.things in the room. Let's laugh. How are you feeling Big Brother tonight?

:56:51. > :56:55.This is him last night. He looks like he's having -- feeling tonight?

:56:56. > :56:59.This is him last night. He looks like he's having... He will do that

:57:00. > :57:04.tonight? He's beautiful, again. Look at him. You can't compare to any

:57:05. > :57:09.other swimmer, man. Look at him! He looks like he's having a ball. You

:57:10. > :57:11.said last night off camera that he's nervous about defending this title,

:57:12. > :57:16.because it's different. Listen, guys, I'm nervous now. You know, in

:57:17. > :57:20.London, London was Lone. And we wanted to just - we were not - we

:57:21. > :57:25.never had a target on our back. And no expectation. It was just, we come

:57:26. > :57:30.there, we have a good time, and we put the flag, and we won a gold

:57:31. > :57:33.medal. Although, we wanted to win, and we expected to win, or we tried

:57:34. > :57:39.to win and whatever, but this time now it's expected. It's completely

:57:40. > :57:43.different. You see how many champions have fallen short here?

:57:44. > :57:47.World record holders, not a place. Because it's not just about Chad and

:57:48. > :57:52.Phelps anymore, is it? There's other people in that race. 100%. It's not

:57:53. > :57:56.about Chad... It's not about Phelps and Chad. It's about eight top

:57:57. > :58:00.athletes in the world, top 200 fly swimmers in the world. And he has to

:58:01. > :58:07.beat all eight. Not one. One is nothing. You know, he is the...

:58:08. > :58:11.Mark, Becky, certainly the race we're looking forward to. We have

:58:12. > :58:14.been talking about it all day. One of the fiercely fought competitions.

:58:15. > :58:21.Bert, thank you so much. I'm looking forward to it. I'm telling you. I am

:58:22. > :58:25.but I'm not! He's good. Your boy is looking in awesome shape. He is.

:58:26. > :58:29.He's a lion, he's a boxer, he is unbelievable. He's not a boxer. He's

:58:30. > :58:34.a nice boy. Beautiful boy. Not a boxer. He's a beautiful boy. Smash

:58:35. > :58:37.his nose, he's a boxer. A beautiful boy and a beautiful family. Look

:58:38. > :58:43.after yourself. Look after your good lady wife. Stood on the box. He

:58:44. > :58:47.stood on the box that I stand on, just to get an eye line with these

:58:48. > :58:51.two. OK. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks so

:58:52. > :58:57.much, guys, we are looking forward to that race. It is gonna be an

:58:58. > :59:03.absolute humdinger. Bert, stop fighting me out of my chair h

:59:04. > :59:04.please! Time for the 100m men's freestyle

:59:05. > :59:24.semifinal. The bread in this Sandwich is very

:59:25. > :59:28.thick indeed. Big men, capable men, not their brainpower. Capable? They

:59:29. > :59:33.are very capable, they didn't look on form this morning, they've both

:59:34. > :59:38.had a good sleep during the day. Dotto, he is strong, the 26-year-old

:59:39. > :59:44.Italian, gold in the European Championships in this event in May.

:59:45. > :59:50.Only six tenths of a second splitting all 16 from the first and

:59:51. > :59:55.the second semi. Six tenths, 16 people. This guide, Schooling, I

:59:56. > :00:13.wonder whether he could win the 100 fly -- this guy. When I say Phelps,

:00:14. > :00:17.look low, Laszlo, Cseh. -- Le Clos. School of... McAvoy, what about

:00:18. > :00:25.McAvoy? Fastest in the world coming into this by a good seven tenths of

:00:26. > :00:31.a second. And here, dress all of the USA. Already won a gold in the four

:00:32. > :00:40.x 100 metres freestyle relay. -- dress cell. He is utterly brilliant.

:00:41. > :00:46.Expect him to go off very quickly. McAvoy in five, third fastest man in

:00:47. > :00:51.history. In one and eight, the world champion and the defending Olympic

:00:52. > :00:52.champion. Talking to himself, psyching himself up, McAvoy has

:00:53. > :01:02.still got his T-shirt on. -- who knows what's going on under

:01:03. > :01:17.the surface. Huge. This would be very exciting. I've no

:01:18. > :01:24.idea where the winner is going to come from. Could be one. Could be

:01:25. > :01:31.for, then five, then six. Adrian? Five. McEvoy for me. Unusually the

:01:32. > :01:37.100 metre freestyle is talking themselves down, they normally

:01:38. > :01:39.talked themselves up but here McEvoy said, I don't know, Nathan Adrian

:01:40. > :01:48.looks good. Very self Dave deprecating but

:01:49. > :01:52.McEvoy and Adrian very good friends actually, Australian and America.

:01:53. > :02:07.Friends in five and eight. As you said, you can't really rule out

:02:08. > :02:13.kneeing. -- Ning. The big guys on the outside and in the centre.

:02:14. > :02:18.McEvoy, the yellow hat of Australia. Dressel has gone off quickly as

:02:19. > :02:22.expected for the USA. Nathan Adrian nearest the camera has gone off

:02:23. > :02:31.well. Verschuren left behind, an awful start, he will have a problem

:02:32. > :02:40.catching them here. McEvoy within a 10th. In the middle lane. Nathan

:02:41. > :02:44.Adrian nearest is doing well. Nathan Adrian of the USA. The defending

:02:45. > :02:48.Olympic champion, going well, working really hard but coming back

:02:49. > :02:54.in the centre, the yellow hat of McEvoy of Australia. Mighty close.

:02:55. > :03:01.Adrian got it! Didn't look like it from up here, looked like McEvoy's

:03:02. > :03:11.arm went in first. Three guys under 48 seconds. Nathan Adrian, Olympic

:03:12. > :03:18.champion, McEvoy and Dressel. Where was the world champion? Back in

:03:19. > :03:21.sixth. That was a strong swimmer from Adrian, much better than this

:03:22. > :03:29.morning, one half of your bread Sandwich pulled it off, McEvoy on

:03:30. > :03:34.the right. Nathan Adrian nearest to us had a brilliant swing. Didn't let

:03:35. > :03:41.anything faze him, even Verschuren 1-up with that terrible start. Clean

:03:42. > :03:48.water from Adrian. You're right, looked like McEvoy went in with his

:03:49. > :03:55.arm but Adrian... The winner of that one. A bit slower than expected.

:03:56. > :04:00.Nathan Adrian went 47.0 in his trial, he has just done 47.9 and it

:04:01. > :04:06.looked like he was working hard. McEvoy you mean? That's right,

:04:07. > :04:11.McEvoy. Look at the world champion, Zetao. Six. The world champion.

:04:12. > :04:19.In the next semi-final we will see Duncan Scott. We saw him earlier in

:04:20. > :04:24.the heats, how impressive was the 19-year-old from Glasgow? Very

:04:25. > :04:29.impressive, he did a best time this morning by .6 of a second, looked

:04:30. > :04:36.really good and in control, has the 200 later. If he is near them at a

:04:37. > :04:40.the turn then he will have a good back end. If he gets near the time

:04:41. > :04:44.of this morning he will get it through to the final, which will be

:04:45. > :04:50.huge for British wimping. He's had a tough day, he had the heats this

:04:51. > :04:57.morning -- British winning. He did it tonight again. He has a good day

:04:58. > :05:01.today but he looked so controlled -- British swimming. I think he will be

:05:02. > :05:06.on form and pumped up for this and then for the boys later in the

:05:07. > :05:11.relay. Sometimes especially in this event, the 100 freestyle is a big

:05:12. > :05:15.boys' then, you see the wash created in the pool and in the past, I've

:05:16. > :05:18.been there, it's almost like man against boys when you say a Brit

:05:19. > :05:28.against the Americans because they look big. He could take it along

:05:29. > :05:31.with those guys. If he's looking at that and Nathan Adrian, surely he's

:05:32. > :05:33.not too intimidated. If you're Duncan Scott you're looking at that

:05:34. > :05:36.and thinking the door is open. He was close to it this morning.

:05:37. > :05:40.Looking at the top three or four from the semi-final, he's not just

:05:41. > :05:44.looking at the leader. If he's wins the same time as this morning he

:05:45. > :05:49.should get to the final. -- if he swims. If he can make it through to

:05:50. > :05:54.tomorrow evening, it will be very close tomorrow night and he could be

:05:55. > :05:58.in the mixed. It takes that one marvellous moment and something

:05:59. > :06:03.could happen with a metal, let's get him their first but something could

:06:04. > :06:06.happen -- medal. We were talking to bird earlier, Chad le Clos was the

:06:07. > :06:14.guy that announced himself on the Olympic stage -- Bert. It happens

:06:15. > :06:18.here, doesn't it? You even have Kyle from Australia, 18, broke the world

:06:19. > :06:22.junior record. You tend to associate someone like Nathan Adrian, who is

:06:23. > :06:27.older, and success with them, and the young ones have blown the field

:06:28. > :06:30.away. It will be really interesting, always such a close race and always

:06:31. > :06:36.people you can't tell because there is so much splash and wash going on.

:06:37. > :06:40.It is a big open evening, men's 100 freestyle, always the blue ribbon

:06:41. > :06:43.event and I would like to think it is the 50 freestyle because it's the

:06:44. > :06:48.shortest but historically because the 50 came in only 30 years ago,

:06:49. > :06:53.this event is the fastest man on the planet stuff. He was so good this

:06:54. > :07:02.morning, no chance he has picked too early? No, positivity. When you're

:07:03. > :07:06.on, you're on -- peaked. Come on, Duncan!

:07:07. > :07:12.COMMENTATOR: Here we go, the second semi-final of the men's 100 metres

:07:13. > :07:16.freestyle and a massive, massive ovation for the guy in lane one,

:07:17. > :07:23.second fastest qualifier, Chierighini of Brazil. Certainly

:07:24. > :07:27.creates a wonderful atmosphere. Only six tenths based second split the

:07:28. > :07:39.whole field, both semifinals, so anyone can make it. And the

:07:40. > :07:43.Canadian, Kisil. Duncan Scott, coming out to make the Olympic

:07:44. > :07:49.final. We saw him in the heats of this event and the relay, he did an

:07:50. > :07:53.awesome split. The joy on his face, the thrill of being in the Olympics

:07:54. > :07:57.was all there to see this morning. Great to see him walk out with it on

:07:58. > :08:01.his face again without any extra pressure he might put on himself or

:08:02. > :08:09.other people. This gentleman will be right next to him, Wierling of

:08:10. > :08:20.Germany, a new lifetime best for the final. Fourth fastest. Condorelli of

:08:21. > :08:26.Canada, trains in Singapore, he has a ritual with his dad, turns around

:08:27. > :08:30.and does a rather unfriendly ways, he's done it all his life and it is

:08:31. > :08:36.the little thing between him. Here we go, Duncan Scott, 19 from the

:08:37. > :08:40.university of sterling. Coached by Steve Tick, fabulous team they have

:08:41. > :08:44.up there and he has a great chance of making the Olympic final. A new

:08:45. > :08:50.British record set in that heat of this morning and if he can go with

:08:51. > :08:56.this guy, the new journey junior or recordholder, the 19-year-old, he

:08:57. > :08:59.has a super chance. Fantastic to be next to charmers. Charmers just that

:09:00. > :09:09.bit quicker this morning. Duncan Scott... Also with... Ben Hickson in

:09:10. > :09:17.its Sterling. In the 4x100 he did for Manaudou. At the back end he

:09:18. > :09:23.held him of back. Scott has been amongst the big races already.

:09:24. > :09:28.Looking more nervous I have to say. They do look young, these teenagers,

:09:29. > :09:35.don't they? It's great. He is fast, that is for certain. What I

:09:36. > :09:39.wonderful British record he set in the heats this morning. Could we

:09:40. > :09:46.have a Brit go 47 seconds for the 100 free? The first semi-final

:09:47. > :09:53.wasn't that fast, these guys all have a chance, every single one of

:09:54. > :10:01.them. Making through to the finals is all on time, doesn't matter about

:10:02. > :10:06.your place, it is all on time. Chalmers of Australia in four. His

:10:07. > :10:09.fingers shaking as he adjusts his goggles, Stoney faced, but that

:10:10. > :10:15.betrays what is going on underneath, all of them just want to get on with

:10:16. > :10:24.it. We've got the resilient commentators next to us so expect an

:10:25. > :10:28.explosion of noise in a second. The second semi-final of the men's 100

:10:29. > :10:33.metre freestyle and Britain's Duncan Scott goes in lane five in the Red

:10:34. > :10:39.Hat and a solid start but a good one up in three, as expected, Condorelli

:10:40. > :10:47.of Canada. Scott's reaction was the best but now not so strong, as you

:10:48. > :10:52.mentioned, lane six... Lane two. Brilliant first 50. Scott in third

:10:53. > :10:57.place. It was the Brazilian, Chierighini, leading off, that's why

:10:58. > :11:03.the crowd are going nuts and Condorelli as expected and Scott has

:11:04. > :11:06.to work the last 25 minutes. Going really well, 31-hundredths faster

:11:07. > :11:10.than the split this morning for the British record but he has to bring

:11:11. > :11:17.it home now -- three 1-hundredths. My goodness me. Fourth. 48 .20. I

:11:18. > :11:24.have a funny feeling that might be enough. That's good, Andy. I think

:11:25. > :11:29.he is in. He was fourth in that, only three people beat him, seventh

:11:30. > :11:35.into the final. Well done, Duncan Scott. Chalmers, though, Andy, only

:11:36. > :11:39.two of them got under 48 in that one and another world junior record for

:11:40. > :11:43.Chalmers, improving with every round and the 18-year-old is a real

:11:44. > :11:51.threat. Changing the guard. There will be a couple of Australians

:11:52. > :11:56.really leading the charge with Adrian trying to defend his title.

:11:57. > :12:00.Chierighini of Brazil has just been announced as making the final and

:12:01. > :12:05.the crowd has just gone potty. They are all on their feet cheering and

:12:06. > :12:09.you can't see them because they are watching the replay at the moment,

:12:10. > :12:14.trying to wind up the crowd and it is working. Chalmers, I would say a

:12:15. > :12:18.clear victory but just a finger. There you go, raising the crowd and

:12:19. > :12:21.I tell you what, he doesn't need to excite the commentators next to us,

:12:22. > :12:27.they are talking all over the start when they should be quiet and it's

:12:28. > :12:35.causing all sorts of panic up here. Is it affecting your hearing aid? He

:12:36. > :12:37.is next to me, you are three feet away from him. Like a hairdryer.

:12:38. > :12:42.Duncan Scott, I tell you what, when you got to man up, I tell you what,

:12:43. > :12:48.while. Chalmers wins the second semi-final. Condorelli hung on well.

:12:49. > :12:54.Duncan Scott, just outside the British record he set this morning.

:12:55. > :12:59.In the final of the Olympic Games for the 100 free. Nathan Adrian,

:13:00. > :13:06.defending champion, fastest in. Condorelli as well. He will have an

:13:07. > :13:19.outside lane. Fabulous stuff, Duncan Scott, well done, sir.

:13:20. > :13:24.Duncan Scott, congratulations. It is going to be a close one. A little

:13:25. > :13:32.bit of the time that he went to this morning. That has? He has made it

:13:33. > :13:36.into the final. He is quite slight. His skills are amazing. At the

:13:37. > :13:41.start, he came up with it. He has the good back end. Tomorrow evening,

:13:42. > :13:47.only 0.4 seconds between eight swimmers. He can get back below his

:13:48. > :13:53.best and he has a shout. Swimming a bit later. Somebody else who is

:13:54. > :13:58.swimming will be Michael Phelps. Hoping to get back is butterfly

:13:59. > :14:08.crown in the 200. This is in a little bit Aliir on. One guy who is

:14:09. > :14:17.going to be challenging him. This is going to be billed as the big race

:14:18. > :14:21.of the evening. We have is compatriot and hungry. I will tell

:14:22. > :14:26.you later what I think. Oh, yes. I don't know who is going to win.

:14:27. > :14:31.Write it down and put it on a piece of paper on your pocket. Michael

:14:32. > :14:38.Phelps is a massive engines. They get just as excited for Michael

:14:39. > :14:44.Phelps. On the other side of the pool, is Buzz Aldrin in the middle

:14:45. > :14:52.with the glass is a grey hair, sitting next to the blonde lady. The

:14:53. > :15:00.second man ever to walk on the moon. He is undoubtedly here to see Mr

:15:01. > :15:05.Phelps. Talking of legends. Katie Ledecky, Sarah Sjostrom, they are in

:15:06. > :15:10.the pool for the women's 200 metres freestyle final. It is going to be a

:15:11. > :15:15.real scrap, isn't it? This one, I've been looking forward to it all week.

:15:16. > :15:21.My dad at home has been so excited about this. It is going to be such a

:15:22. > :15:27.close race. I would love to see Ledecky win. I want to see her get

:15:28. > :15:34.the full set. Sarah just looked so good yesterday. Who is your dad

:15:35. > :15:38.backing? He will want Katie as well. Your dad can be backing Sourav. It

:15:39. > :15:45.is intriguing. I would like to see Sjostrom do it. As wonderful as it

:15:46. > :15:49.is to see someone dominate, Ledecky has the distance background, coming

:15:50. > :15:55.down to this print. Sjostrom has so much in the beginning. Ledecky will

:15:56. > :16:00.try and get off if she has two with some extra speed on the way back.

:16:01. > :16:03.Both of them have Olympic gold in the bag, both of them have world

:16:04. > :16:10.records. This is going to be a fight.

:16:11. > :16:14.It is certainly going to be a fight and fascinating to commentate.

:16:15. > :16:21.Three, four and five world record holder. There she is, Federica

:16:22. > :16:33.Pellegrini. Sjostrom in four. Ledecky and five. There is the world

:16:34. > :16:38.record held. She set it way back in Rome, 2009. Katie Ledecky, she has

:16:39. > :16:43.won the 400. Welshy when the 200? She did a great 100 in the relay. It

:16:44. > :16:49.is going to be difficult for Ledecky. They reckon she is going to

:16:50. > :16:53.come back strong. Sjostrom and that semi-final was brilliant. Really,

:16:54. > :17:00.really strong. She won the 100 fly, gold medal on day one. Sjostrom is

:17:01. > :17:05.confident. Singing to herself. She is on it. I agree. I love watching

:17:06. > :17:09.the faces. You can read so much into it. So nervous going into that

:17:10. > :17:16.final. Everyone gave her a gold medal yet ago. She is much more

:17:17. > :17:23.relaxed. There is Pellegrini, the world record holder. She is getting

:17:24. > :17:26.fired up. Sjostrom, there she is. Ledecky in lane five. She should

:17:27. > :17:36.have a double cappuccino and espresso. The one big challenge to

:17:37. > :17:42.her achieving a real sleep in the two, four and 800. -- sweep.

:17:43. > :17:52.Ledecky has to be with them. At the 150 mark. The final of the women's

:17:53. > :18:05.200 freestyle. I have to say, probably the worst

:18:06. > :18:12.part of the whole race of -- for Sarah Sjostrom is the start. There

:18:13. > :18:20.we go, closer to us. Emma McKeon getting the medal in the relay for

:18:21. > :18:26.Australia. Strong in the sprint. The niece of Woodhouse, known to many

:18:27. > :18:30.living in Scotland. Michelle Coleman and Sjostrom, the two Swedes. This

:18:31. > :18:34.is a pretty strong Swinburn Sjostrom. Pellegrini, I am

:18:35. > :18:42.surprised. She is coming back strongly. Working enormously hard.

:18:43. > :18:48.Look at Ledecky. Look at the speed and the turnover at a stroke. It is

:18:49. > :18:57.quite phenomenal. World record pace, that is Pellegrini's world record.

:18:58. > :19:01.Goodness me. It is an Emma McKeon. Second, Ledecky. Third, Sjostrom.

:19:02. > :19:06.All three of them are on world record pace. Ledecky going nuts.

:19:07. > :19:13.Sjostrom has to hold on here. Brilliant swimming by McKeown. Still

:19:14. > :19:19.going on a world record pace. Sjostrom is winding it up at

:19:20. > :19:26.Ledecky, what a great 150 metres. Sjostrom is looking good. At the

:19:27. > :19:29.moment, Ledecky is working enormously hard. She has got 50

:19:30. > :19:34.metres to go. I am not sure that Sjostrom is going to capture that

:19:35. > :19:39.she is having a crack at it. She can see her. At the moment, it is

:19:40. > :19:45.Ledecky. Still going well. McKeon of Australia. Ledecky, the 19-year-old.

:19:46. > :19:50.Goodness me. She is going to be really close. Still coming back is

:19:51. > :19:58.Sjostrom. Gold to Ledecky it is. What a brilliant swim. The Gold

:19:59. > :20:05.Coast to Katie Ledecky of the USA. The Silver ghost Sarah Sjostrom of

:20:06. > :20:09.Sweden. The bombs, at very brave bombs, -- the bronze medal, a very

:20:10. > :20:17.brave bronze medal, and a McKeon of Australia. -- and a McKeon. Ledecky,

:20:18. > :20:22.the best in the world of the 200 metres. Right now, that was a bad --

:20:23. > :20:26.fantastic strong, bold swim. Sjostrom had nothing to answer with.

:20:27. > :20:36.Ledecky, you cannot count now against the getting a handful

:20:37. > :20:42.really. Gold medals,. She has already got the 400. The 800 is

:20:43. > :20:47.left. She should win by a street. It was a very brave thing to do. The

:20:48. > :20:51.only way she could, she really had to get out there because the

:20:52. > :20:59.sprinters, they have much more speed than she does. McKeon is a brave

:21:00. > :21:07.one. Look at that. A great bronze medal for McKeon. She has her own

:21:08. > :21:19.individual level. Her own race pacing. That including -- that

:21:20. > :21:30.included using her sprint. Ledecky taking the gold medal. The most

:21:31. > :21:36.dominant middle-distance freestyle and we have seen in years.

:21:37. > :21:40.Confirmation of an amazing result. Katie Ledecky wins the 200 metres

:21:41. > :21:45.freestyle comfortably in the end. Sjostrom from Sweden, the Silver.

:21:46. > :21:52.McKeon, the bronze medal. Pellegrini, fourth.

:21:53. > :22:00.You are absolutely bouncing. There is no British person in that but I'm

:22:01. > :22:06.so pleased the Katie. She is so lovely. She sent me such a nice

:22:07. > :22:14.letter when I retired. So, so lovely. I really want to see her get

:22:15. > :22:19.back goals. Now it is the 800 to add to her collection. A surprise

:22:20. > :22:26.medallist in London but no surprises there. We will see more from power.

:22:27. > :22:34.She has taken distance freestyle. As he broke Becky's record by six

:22:35. > :22:38.seconds or something. -- she broke. U2, don't start. She has taken

:22:39. > :22:45.middle-distance swimming to a whole new level. It is more of a sprint

:22:46. > :22:49.and an endurance events. It is mind blowing. What a final. She is an

:22:50. > :22:53.American legend and it's going to be unbelievable to see what she can do

:22:54. > :22:59.over the next few years. Unbelievable. So, so dominant.

:23:00. > :23:02.Somebody dominant for a long time, Michael Phelps. Were tied up to

:23:03. > :23:07.London, he has come back. He is getting ready for the 200 metres

:23:08. > :23:14.final. He hasn't lost that Olympic race for ten years. He lost it in

:23:15. > :23:16.London and is hoping to get it back. Standing right in front of Michael

:23:17. > :23:25.Phelps. He is growling like a dog.

:23:26. > :23:41.Oh my good, Chandler won the gold. -- oh, my God.

:23:42. > :23:54.We saw a photograph of Mac port and with Grant Hackett when he was 11,

:23:55. > :23:58.ten years old. -- Mack Horton. We know that Chad LeClos beat his hero,

:23:59. > :24:10.Michael Phelps. I put Sjostrom was going to win the last one, so there

:24:11. > :24:15.you go. Here is Viktor Bromer. Viktor Bromer in lane one. The

:24:16. > :24:18.European silver-medallist in this 200 metres butterfly that this is

:24:19. > :24:31.going to be fascinating. Lanes will three, four, five and six. . I

:24:32. > :24:35.really had it down for Laszlo and then along comes the 19 old

:24:36. > :24:46.Hungarian, the fastest qualifier. There is Seto. Michael Phelps, his

:24:47. > :24:52.hero. Phelps, at the age of 31, will not be wanting to give it up. Seto

:24:53. > :25:00.has chance to get a medal. An outside chance. Only four men have

:25:01. > :25:12.got under 1:50 four. There is LeClos. There is an emotional tie to

:25:13. > :25:22.LeClos doing well here. Cseh now. Such a fabulous chap. Chat's mind

:25:23. > :25:28.must have been everywhere. Laszlo Cseh, the champion from Hungary. The

:25:29. > :25:33.experience levels. The arrears, 31-year-old world record holder, 33

:25:34. > :25:40.World Championship medals, 23 Olympic medals. 19 of which are

:25:41. > :25:48.Olympic goals. Michael Phelps of the USA. Lane five. You can't really go

:25:49. > :25:55.against him, can you? You think you might be better world. You have the

:25:56. > :26:05.19-year-old Hungarian. But Michael Phelps is in there. I am going to

:26:06. > :26:09.say Chad LeClos. We haven't seen him go all guns blazing but we did see

:26:10. > :26:18.him in the 200 free. Not really his event and he won a silver medal. I

:26:19. > :26:23.think Chad LeClos or Cseh, we have not seen the best of them. This man,

:26:24. > :26:35.19 years old, hoping to play a very big spoiler role. Michael Phelps,

:26:36. > :26:39.his fastest 200 fly of the year. LeClos having a sneaky look over. He

:26:40. > :26:43.is the right one when he plays his games. He is looking away, and that

:26:44. > :26:48.is interesting. He is not in the face of Michael Phelps at all. You

:26:49. > :26:54.do not base Michael Phelps at this point, it is a waste of time. -- you

:26:55. > :27:02.do not base. Total concentration from Michael Phelps and Chad LeClos.

:27:03. > :27:14.The final of the men's 200 metres butterfly. Waiting for quiet. Phelps

:27:15. > :27:24.and LeClos, five and six. Look out for those Hungarians.

:27:25. > :27:35.Too much noise in the stadium. The commentator next to me needs to shut

:27:36. > :27:40.up. Sorry. Everybody here is quite for the start. The referee doing the

:27:41. > :27:42.right thing. You do not want to be twitching, think you have heard

:27:43. > :27:47.something in the crowd which could be the start. As if there wasn't

:27:48. > :27:50.enough pressure on these guys, this is the one everybody has come to

:27:51. > :27:56.see. They have been trash talking each other last couple of years,

:27:57. > :28:03.Michael Phelps. Chad saying, you should have been here. You were not.

:28:04. > :28:21.The final of the men's 200 fly at the Olympic Games.

:28:22. > :28:29.Chad Le Clos is on the left-hand side of that shot. The green hat of

:28:30. > :28:35.Chad Le Clos. The black cap after that is Phelps and then Kenderesi

:28:36. > :28:38.and Laszlo Czeh. I wonder if Kenderesi's slow start threw him.

:28:39. > :28:42.You know, immense pressure, the start of such an important race for

:28:43. > :28:48.most of these men in here and Phelps up first after the turn. Didn't stay

:28:49. > :28:52.under that long. Le Clos with him and Laszlo Czeh swimming his own

:28:53. > :28:56.race in three. Czeh with that bald head, swimming strongly to 75m.

:28:57. > :29:02.Phelps is going for it. He's trying to beat Le Clos in the first 100m.

:29:03. > :29:05.This is very interesting. Well, he was comfortable to 50m but he's

:29:06. > :29:11.already started to make his move, Michael Phelps. Well, at the Olympic

:29:12. > :29:14.Games in London in 2012 he was comfortably ahead after three

:29:15. > :29:18.lengths but he was comfortably ahead at three and Chad Le Clos has just

:29:19. > :29:22.had a look and decided it's time to go as well himself. So Phelps

:29:23. > :29:26.leading, just about, Chad Le Clos, second and just about, Laszlo Czeh

:29:27. > :29:31.in third. Chad has been looking over. He can't leave anything to the

:29:32. > :29:35.last length. He's strong on the turn and Colling through Kenderesi the

:29:36. > :29:39.19-year-old. Could youth be, the impetuousness of youth get him. He's

:29:40. > :29:43.come through very strongly now, lane four. Keep an eye out but Phelps had

:29:44. > :29:49.an awesome turn and Le Clos right back on. I think Phelps could hold

:29:50. > :29:53.it off. Oh, it's all yours, Andy, mate. Go for it. Well, this is

:29:54. > :29:58.absolutely amazing. The crowd is standing up. Phelps is helding on.

:29:59. > :30:03.Kenderesi in the white hat of Hungary. Chad Le Clos is fading.

:30:04. > :30:07.Coming through is Sakai in seven, Phelps in six. Phelps is going to

:30:08. > :30:12.take it. It's so close. Phelps has won! Phelps has won it by 0.04

:30:13. > :30:16.seconds. A shocking finish but he won it right at the end and I bet

:30:17. > :30:20.all sorts of stuff was going through his head when he had to take that

:30:21. > :30:24.tiny horrible choppy little stroke but he's won gold and he's won four

:30:25. > :30:30.medals in a row, the first swimmer to do it in history in the same

:30:31. > :30:36.event! Gold to Michael Phelps. Sakai of Japan with silver. Kenderesi, the

:30:37. > :30:42.bronze, from Hungary, and where were the others? Le Clos in fourth? Czeh

:30:43. > :30:49.in seventh. Well, what a fantastic race! Too hard, too hard. Michael

:30:50. > :30:51.Phelps, look at that, soaking it up. Absolutely awesome and Kenderesi, I

:30:52. > :30:57.thought with another five metres to go, was going to get there but in

:30:58. > :31:01.the end, it was Sakai that bridged the two of them. I didn't even see

:31:02. > :31:06.that amazing swim down in lane seven and Phelps pulling off and Le Clos

:31:07. > :31:11.out of the medals. Not managing to even get anything from this one,

:31:12. > :31:19.very disappointing from Chad. But Michael Phelps went for it. Hung on.

:31:20. > :31:28.Well... OK. We can call him the goat now, Andy. He is great.

:31:29. > :31:34.Three golds and a silver in the 200m butterfly in the Olympics games.

:31:35. > :31:39.Gold in Athens in 2004. Gold in Beijing in Beijing 2008. Silver to

:31:40. > :31:45.Le Clos in 2012 and he's come back again. Wow. We'll come to the others

:31:46. > :31:46.when we finish eulogising Michael Phelps.

:31:47. > :31:50.CHEERING Phelps here. Look at Le Clos looking

:31:51. > :31:55.over, hunting, hunting, trying to get him and Phelps is just

:31:56. > :32:01.invincible! It's all running through his body! Prime example of Avila

:32:02. > :32:09.male on top of his game right there. Good grief! You know in training, he

:32:10. > :32:14.does his kick training with a 10-pound weight on his chest. I

:32:15. > :32:18.can't even lift a ten-pound weight on his chest. I wouldn't be

:32:19. > :32:22.surprised if he could carry a bear on his back as well. Right now he's

:32:23. > :32:27.invincible. He nearly lost it on the finish for the second Olympics in a

:32:28. > :32:31.row but he did not. He won the gold. Michael Phelps wins his 20th Olympic

:32:32. > :32:37.gold medal, his 24th medal in total. Phelps the gold. Sakai the silver of

:32:38. > :32:44.Japan and Kenderesi, the bronze! Le Clos in fourth.

:32:45. > :32:49.Well, let's confess, we all had a little bet on the table and none of

:32:50. > :32:54.us predicted that. You got it wrong! I didn't even write anything down on

:32:55. > :32:58.that race because that was just incredible. Just... I've got no

:32:59. > :33:02.words... It's just one of those races that had everything in it. I

:33:03. > :33:06.think for the last couple of years, Chad sort of said Michael Phelps and

:33:07. > :33:10.all the times I've been that quick and Chad's like you should have been

:33:11. > :33:14.here. All of sudden he's like, "I've turned up then. Let's see what you

:33:15. > :33:20.got." He went out there and took them on. He looked so dominant going

:33:21. > :33:25.into the last 100m towards the end, things looked a little bit dicey.

:33:26. > :33:29.Let's relive the end of the race. At one point we thought Czeh would get

:33:30. > :33:34.in. What happened? Laszlo Czeh was gone at this point. He didn't have

:33:35. > :33:38.the last turn, Laszlo Czeh. What an incredible last 50m Phelps had. He

:33:39. > :33:42.just tried to hang on. He knew that Kenderesi would come back at him. He

:33:43. > :33:45.knew that that's the way he swims. He was just holding on. He was

:33:46. > :33:48.leading from the front. His way is leading from the front and he had to

:33:49. > :33:52.get out there and lead from the front and hopefully break the others

:33:53. > :33:55.off. He completely lost Chad. Chad should have gone with him at the

:33:56. > :33:59.beginning. And Chad sat back and then he couldn't go through the

:34:00. > :34:03.gears. He couldn't change it up. It's difficult when you start slow

:34:04. > :34:06.to pick it up in butterfly. We talk so often about what phenomenal

:34:07. > :34:11.athletes all Olympians are but for me this is the race whether you see

:34:12. > :34:15.how phenomenal swimmers are because of how they power through the water.

:34:16. > :34:19.You see what it meant to him. He starts doing this. Come on, cheer me

:34:20. > :34:25.on. He's the man. That's why he came back. That's why he came back. 20

:34:26. > :34:28.gold Olympic medals. He's a country by himself, isn't he? So lovely! But

:34:29. > :34:34.his reaction throughout the whole race. But then to cheer Phelps on

:34:35. > :34:38.the way that he did, obviously, he's diappointing for Chad not to get a

:34:39. > :34:44.medal but it was such a lovely reaction. What a sportsman to clap

:34:45. > :34:47.him. Geraldine there, I knew Burt knew what was happening, didn't he?

:34:48. > :34:51.Very, very special family. They have been so gracious in sharing their

:34:52. > :34:55.story and everybody's been on that journey with them and I think

:34:56. > :34:58.parents all over the land will be feeling Chad's pain right now.

:34:59. > :35:04.Nothing to be disappointed about. Chad Le Clos still a boy to be proud

:35:05. > :35:19.of and plenty more from him this week. We have round two of Phelps

:35:20. > :35:22.versus Le Clos in the 100m. And now we've got the women's 200 butterfly

:35:23. > :35:32.women's semifinals. Adams swam a decent time in the

:35:33. > :35:35.heats. Just three-tenths of a second

:35:36. > :35:41.outside the lifetime best she set last year. And there's Szilagyi of

:35:42. > :35:51.Hungary in five. A 16-year-old in three. I bet Tokyo 2020, Suzuka

:35:52. > :35:55.Hasegawa will be looking for a position on the medal podium. First

:35:56. > :35:58.job, though, Andy, is obviously to make the final here. Four years

:35:59. > :36:01.early for her maybe but it would be a great result. I think 2.7 would do

:36:02. > :36:14.it. First semifinal of the women's 200m

:36:15. > :36:19.butterfly and the best start was probably Zhou of China. There are

:36:20. > :36:23.two Chinese in six and seven, Zhang in six and Zhou in seven. They're

:36:24. > :36:27.taking it by the scruff of the neck in the first 50m going pretty fast.

:36:28. > :36:34.There's been a change in the guard. The Chinese swimmers nearest to us -

:36:35. > :36:39.of course, we had the world record-holder and Zhao, the Olympic

:36:40. > :36:44.record-holder. Both those womeners are retired or not made the team and

:36:45. > :36:50.it's left to the two heads with the white caps in the second and third

:36:51. > :36:56.lanes from the right. And it is Yilin Zhou, 23, the older

:36:57. > :37:02.of the two Chinese swimmers, who is setting the pace. That world record

:37:03. > :37:12.from the World Championships in China in the year of 2009, 2:01.81.

:37:13. > :37:16.I can't see the gold medal going for anything faster than 2:05, Andy. We

:37:17. > :37:20.said it was hard to call and I've got to say the six women in the

:37:21. > :37:23.centre here - it's only the outside lanes not currently in it. Six of

:37:24. > :37:28.these women look like they could make it through to the final.

:37:29. > :37:35.The Chinese are still going well in six and seven.

:37:36. > :37:39.Maybe Zhou of China in seven now is just starting to pick it up again.

:37:40. > :37:46.This is impressive from her. It's interesting. I looked down because I

:37:47. > :37:54.thought the 18-year-old, Zhang, had spicked up her -- picked up her pace

:37:55. > :37:57.but then Zhou had a burst of energy. Second from the right, Zhou, the

:37:58. > :38:01.23-year-old, hanging in there and moving away a little bit here, Andy.

:38:02. > :38:03.Picked up her -- picked up her pace but then Zhou had a burst of energy.

:38:04. > :38:06.Second from the right, Zhou, the 23-year-old, hanging in there and

:38:07. > :38:09.moving away a little bit here, Andy. I tell you what, you don't want to

:38:10. > :38:12.be fifth of this lot. Or sixth. You don't want to be sixth either.

:38:13. > :38:14.There's still six in it and some of these womeners probably won't make

:38:15. > :38:18.it. Look at that. That's impressive. She went for it down the first 50m

:38:19. > :38:24.and hung on well and China one-two. Zhou and Zhang, Zhou winning it in.

:38:25. > :38:28.: The 23-year-old and the 18-year-old in second. Where did

:38:29. > :38:31.Hasegawa come? Down in fifth but it's enormously close. It really is.

:38:32. > :38:40.When we see the results caption, you'll see how close it was.

:38:41. > :38:45.Incredible. I think they're going to have to be

:38:46. > :38:50.careful, like you say, the next semifinal - they're all well capable

:38:51. > :38:55.of 2:07-low, you know, at least five of them. And I wonder here if you

:38:56. > :39:01.have the unusual situation of just the Chinese qualifying. Maybe not.

:39:02. > :39:04.Maybe Throssell, the Australian, getting that touch for third could

:39:05. > :39:39.do it but wide open still. Phelps has taken back the Olympic

:39:40. > :39:54.crown and we're coming down from that still.

:39:55. > :39:58.Hopefully the British guys can - hopefully not repeat 20 gold medals

:39:59. > :40:03.obviously - but hopefully they can buzz off this. Duncan Scott has the

:40:04. > :40:09.relay in the 200m to come tonight. What's he doing now? He'll have got

:40:10. > :40:14.straight into the warm-down pool and swam for about... Anyone knows that

:40:15. > :40:17.when you exercise hard, you get lactic acid in the muscles so you go

:40:18. > :40:20.straight into the pool and swim up and down for half an hour and

:40:21. > :40:26.they'll check to make sure it's gone. He roughly knows how long it

:40:27. > :40:33.will take. Get out, get warmed up, put another pair of trunks on, stay

:40:34. > :40:37.still and conserve energy. Michael Phelps the greatest Olympian

:40:38. > :40:41.of all time and Katie Ledecky on the verge of becoming one of the

:40:42. > :40:45.greatest of autumn time this week. Does an atmosphere like that whip up

:40:46. > :40:48.excitement and will it affect Siobhan and tonne can and the boys

:40:49. > :40:51.in the relay? Definitely. To be fair, the crowd are fantastic in

:40:52. > :40:54.here tonight. Very often this week, it hasn't been sold out but tonight,

:40:55. > :40:58.I think with Phelps swimming, everyone's come to the pool and what

:40:59. > :41:02.a night to be here and I'm so looking forward to Siobhan's race.

:41:03. > :41:06.She's such an incredible athlete. I love her to bits. She's one of the

:41:07. > :41:09.nicest people you will ever meet and I really hope she goes out there and

:41:10. > :41:13.gets what she deserves and that's a medal round her neck. I was going to

:41:14. > :41:17.say just walking out and hearing that noise and this environment, if

:41:18. > :41:20.you're... If you wanted to be an Olympic athlete, this is what it's

:41:21. > :41:24.all about. It's like Adam said, when you walk out, you don't have to get

:41:25. > :41:28.yourself up for it. This will get you up. You walk out, you're in the

:41:29. > :41:33.zone but you're aware of this. The adrenaline takes you and that

:41:34. > :41:38.nervous energy, you want to use it to help you rather than get it...

:41:39. > :41:46.It's fear or fight or flight and you use the energy in your favour and

:41:47. > :41:50.she's good at that. It's fair to be excited about Siobhan's chances of

:41:51. > :41:53.getting a medal and even potentially the gold medal that everyone assumes

:41:54. > :41:58.goes to Hosszu. If you've got a lane, you've got a chance. She has a

:41:59. > :42:03.team-mates in the session and she's seen Jazz Carolyn get a silver medal

:42:04. > :42:07.already this week. So when a club is doing well, it has that effect. She

:42:08. > :42:12.said in a vt we saw earlier that they are family down there in Bath.

:42:13. > :42:16.They look out for one another, they support each other, she's bounce off

:42:17. > :42:21.what Andrew will do in the 200m breaststroke this morning as well.

:42:22. > :42:25.He looked great this this morning. The bottom line is to make it to the

:42:26. > :42:29.top eight. There'll be a second between eight people and when it

:42:30. > :42:34.comes to the final, as we saw in that 200m fly, all of a sudden,

:42:35. > :42:37.anything can happen. We all said Chad Le Clos could win. He came

:42:38. > :42:42.fourth. We thought Czeh would push him. He came seventh, eighth. So

:42:43. > :43:20.things happen under pressure. People step up and people fall away.

:43:21. > :43:29.The one person, the wild card, if you like, is Flickinger here of the

:43:30. > :43:38.American US A-Team, not in any of the rankings coming into here. But

:43:39. > :43:41.four of the fastest swimmers in the world, including Belmonte, who was

:43:42. > :43:45.fourth fastest. She had a shoulder injury last year and missed the

:43:46. > :43:51.World Championships. This is the fastest semifinal on paper.

:43:52. > :43:56.It's always a little bit different when you have the gap, you've got

:43:57. > :44:02.into racing and you've warmed up. We haven't seen much for the Germans

:44:03. > :44:08.here at all but I saw Otto just before this meet started this

:44:09. > :44:14.evening. She won six gold medals in 1988. I think she's still got the

:44:15. > :44:23.most ever gold medals in one Olympic Games for a woman.

:44:24. > :44:32.I think. Anyway, this is the second semifinal of the women's 200m fly.

:44:33. > :44:38.Marea -- Mireia Belmonte was the fastest in the heats this morning.

:44:39. > :44:43.Groves is in three. Flickinger in five. Great shot. Back to back,

:44:44. > :44:46.choosing not to face each other. I wonder if that's their natural

:44:47. > :44:52.stance? Swimmers often like to stand sideways to the block before they

:44:53. > :45:05.get on and it's just fortuitous that they weren't

:45:06. > :45:12.Well, the fastest in the pool is Mireia Belmonte, but a very good

:45:13. > :45:16.start indeed from the Australian, Madeline Groves. The Commonwealth

:45:17. > :45:19.Games bronze medallist with the yellow hat of Australia up in three

:45:20. > :45:23.has gone out really quick and she's already a body length ahead, Ade.

:45:24. > :45:29.This is... Suicide pace? It's quite stunning.

:45:30. > :45:33.Brilliant if it... If she can pull it off and stay there for four

:45:34. > :45:38.lengths. Crazy if she can't. She is the fastest swimmer this year by a

:45:39. > :45:45.long way and if she... There's a great tradition of Australian fly

:45:46. > :45:49.swimmers, Susie O'Neill, the great Susie O'Neill, Australian swimmer.

:45:50. > :45:57.She swam very similar, actually. But now lane five, isn't it? Coming

:45:58. > :46:01.back, Flickinger of -- Flickinger of America carrying that but she

:46:02. > :46:12.carries the body length at 100m. First over is Groves of Australia by

:46:13. > :46:16.a long, long way. Mireia Belmonte normally goes out

:46:17. > :46:20.quite slow. She was the fastest qualifier. Madeline Groves still

:46:21. > :46:25.hanging on. The rest of the field starting to come back. Flickinger in

:46:26. > :46:28.five, Belmonte in four. Groves - it would be a great shame if the wheels

:46:29. > :46:32.came off. That's in danger here. They're catching her quickly. It

:46:33. > :46:37.would be a naive swim for the world number one coming into this race.

:46:38. > :46:42.She'd be so excited but if she blows out - I can't believe that she'll

:46:43. > :46:45.lose the whole lead and not be in the top three or four. Groves

:46:46. > :46:49.dicking in now, struggling, sucking in the air, look at that. It would

:46:50. > :46:53.be good to see her hands closer together at the front of the stroke.

:46:54. > :46:56.The rest of the the field is catching up. Belmonte having a

:46:57. > :47:00.fantastic last 25 meerts. I have to say this is really tough for Groves.

:47:01. > :47:05.She's hung on very, very well. That first 25m, I thought she was much

:47:06. > :47:13.too quick but head down inside the last five, goodness me, I take my

:47:14. > :47:20.hat off to you. Wow, Madeline Groves wins it, 2:05.66, nine tenths faster

:47:21. > :47:24.than the first semifinal. Belmonte second, Hoshi third. Olympic silver

:47:25. > :47:28.and bronze from London second and third in the semi and comfortably

:47:29. > :47:33.through to the final tomorrow night. Well, Groves might want to adjust

:47:34. > :47:38.the race pace for tomorrow. Just ease back a little bit on that

:47:39. > :47:42.first... Well, the first three strokes. Off the block quickly,

:47:43. > :47:46.Belmonte there. Look at that, entering the water now and then

:47:47. > :47:57.just... Well, good reactions. And she worked very hard in the

:47:58. > :48:01.second 100m, Belmonte. It was interesting the way she swam

:48:02. > :48:05.it, Groves. She went out very, very fast in the first 25m, almost a body

:48:06. > :48:10.length ahead, then let them catch her up and then swam away again. It

:48:11. > :48:14.doesn't normally happen on 200m fly. No, she still had the energy, you're

:48:15. > :48:19.right, for the last five or ten metres. I think it's this point here

:48:20. > :48:24.when Belmonte is catching her up, 25m to go with the red lane line.

:48:25. > :48:28.That's a shame. We're seeing just technique shots now.

:48:29. > :48:33.Though she did hold off. I would suggest she got a lot of background

:48:34. > :48:35.training. Oh, look, nice glide. She won't want to do that either in the

:48:36. > :48:42.final. It hurt. Look at her. She didn't

:48:43. > :48:45.even look over yet. Well, I tell you what, that's

:48:46. > :48:49.interesting. I love watching their faces and seeing what their

:48:50. > :48:55.reactions are and that was a fascinating reaction. So Maddie

:48:56. > :48:59.Groves wins the second semifinal. Belmonte second, Olympic silver.

:49:00. > :49:08.Hoshi third, Olympic bronze from London and the first four will go

:49:09. > :49:12.through to the final, I think. Flickinger was fourth. Yes and she's

:49:13. > :49:18.the only one - the last one to make it from that second semi. So Groves

:49:19. > :49:22.in fastest, Garcia second. And China, Japan, China, two USA, two

:49:23. > :49:29.Australia. Look at that. It's wide open, that one.

:49:30. > :49:34.So the final of that one is tomorrow night and let's be-on etc - anybody

:49:35. > :49:37.could win that, especially since Katinka Hosszu pulled out. We saw

:49:38. > :49:41.her on the start list and looked for her on the starting block. She

:49:42. > :49:49.didn't turn up. She's running scared, right? She's scared of

:49:50. > :49:52.Mireia? Katinka Hosszu is so, so dominant. She's in great form. She's

:49:53. > :49:58.on course for another gold in the 200m IM. But that does say a lot

:49:59. > :50:02.about where her head is at, because she must see sieve yawn as a threat?

:50:03. > :50:05.Definitely. She wouldn't have pulled out otherwise because that was

:50:06. > :50:10.probably a definite medal for her. She obviously is worried. And for

:50:11. > :50:14.Siobhan, I am just remembering all the kind of feelings you go through.

:50:15. > :50:17.She'll be feeling sick, so nervous before and that's just the emotion

:50:18. > :50:21.that you go through before you race. You feel like you want to lie down

:50:22. > :50:24.and throw up to be honest. It's not the nicest experience but it's all

:50:25. > :50:28.about your body getting ready to race. It happened to everybody. It

:50:29. > :50:31.did. I used to get so nervous. But isn't that good? So Siobhan-Marie

:50:32. > :50:36.O'Connor in about 40 minutes is going to go in the 200m individual

:50:37. > :50:40.medley. People expect Katinka Hosszu to do it but as we keep saying,

:50:41. > :50:44.Siobhan is in fantastic form. What you've got to remember is...

:50:45. > :50:49.Siobhan's worried her because, because, um, Katinka would have done

:50:50. > :50:53.that 200m fly tonight and, I think, rested, she would have won that

:50:54. > :50:57.race. That's how good shes so she's pulled out of that knowing Siobhan's

:50:58. > :51:00.going to push her and go close to her and potentially could beat her.

:51:01. > :51:06.She's good enough. I think we'll see the world record go. I think Hosszu

:51:07. > :51:10.has got a 2:05 in her. Siobhan did a personal best and broke the British

:51:11. > :51:14.record and I hope that Siobhan will get close enough to her and tries to

:51:15. > :51:18.take her on. The reason we're not mentioning anybody else, Helen, is

:51:19. > :51:22.because it's a two-horse race. Well, hang on, we thought that about the

:51:23. > :51:27.200m fly, didn't it? And that didn't pan out how we expected. No! We're

:51:28. > :51:30.experts! Are you saying you're guaranteeing a British medal this

:51:31. > :51:36.evening? Unless something drastic happens, yes. Yeah. OK. The key

:51:37. > :51:40.phrase there is "unless". Get the kettle on, guys. I'm backing

:51:41. > :51:44.Siobhan. We're confident and there are plenty more Brits in the pool

:51:45. > :51:48.this evening. We will see Andrew Willis and the British boys go in

:51:49. > :51:52.the 4 x 200m relay, Jason. Thank you very much. I am so glad

:51:53. > :51:57.you stayed up for that Michael Phelps moment. That is utterly

:51:58. > :52:00.remarkable. How about this for a stat - 174 Olympic countries have

:52:01. > :52:04.fewer gold medals than Michael Phelps. Remarkable. Let's bring you

:52:05. > :52:09.right up to date with what's been happening in the table tennis. One

:52:10. > :52:20.man who really wants Olympic gold is this chap.

:52:21. > :52:23.He's never won the table tennis singles gold for China but he's

:52:24. > :52:26.desperate to win it and he's through to the next round comfortably

:52:27. > :52:30.winning 4-0. Well done to Ma Lon.

:52:31. > :52:34.Also taking part this evening on Brazil's women. Now they have been

:52:35. > :52:37.in fantastic form in this competition, unlike the men, who

:52:38. > :52:40.have yet to score a goal. They're taking on South Africa and let's get

:52:41. > :53:10.the first half highlights. She's back on her feet but South

:53:11. > :53:14.Africa are showing they've got the ability to counter in superb fashion

:53:15. > :53:19.and a real fright for the host nation. Six-time copia America

:53:20. > :53:27.champions, Brazil, but they've never won the Fifa women's World Cup or

:53:28. > :53:31.the Olympic gold. They won't necessarily expect the

:53:32. > :53:44.gold medal but they'll work hard for it.

:53:45. > :53:50.That was a fierce shot. Brazil denied.

:53:51. > :53:56.Yet another full house. Hopefully we'll see some goals there. If you

:53:57. > :53:59.want a bit of beach volleyball just at the end of Copacabana is this

:54:00. > :54:05.wonderful venue and that's available now on the red button. Plenty of

:54:06. > :54:15.live action for you on the BBC. Where else can you go? You can go to

:54:16. > :54:26.the Caraeoka if you fancy a bit of Argentina and Croatia in basketball.

:54:27. > :54:31.That's available online. Many places where you can watch

:54:32. > :54:37.action from the Rio Olympic Games. To help you make even more of your

:54:38. > :54:40.Rio 2016 Olympic Games from boxing to badminton, hockey to handball,

:54:41. > :54:45.we've got it all covered right here on the BBC. Alongside coverage on

:54:46. > :54:50.BBC One, BBC Four and Radio 5 Live, you can access up to 24 live sports

:54:51. > :54:55.on the BBC Sport website or via the BBC Sport app on mobile, connected

:54:56. > :55:03.TVs and games consoles. The best of these will be a --

:55:04. > :55:06.available on the red button. If that's not enough, you can download

:55:07. > :55:11.the BBC Sport app where you can set up news and medal alerts and live

:55:12. > :55:14.event reminders so you can follow all of your favourite sports.

:55:15. > :55:17.Yeah, you will not miss a thing here with us on the BBC. Let's take you

:55:18. > :55:21.back to Helen and the team and Helen, it just gets better and

:55:22. > :55:25.better for Michael Phelps because David Hasselhoff has tweeted him

:55:26. > :55:29.saying he's very impressed. A tweet from the Hoff. Can't beat that!

:55:30. > :55:33.Yes, a fantastic night for the Americans so far, plenty of Stars

:55:34. > :55:37.and Stripes being waved aloft. We've just seen Katie Ledecky's medal

:55:38. > :55:42.ceremony fort the 200m free, gold medal for Katie Ledecky, another

:55:43. > :55:47.one. Now, this isn't even her strongest event, is it? No, but

:55:48. > :55:50.we've seen her do the 4 x 100m freestyle relay and that was an

:55:51. > :55:55.incredible split that she did and picked up her first medal there so

:55:56. > :55:59.we knew she was capable of it. Just seeing her split from that relay.

:56:00. > :56:04.Obviously the 400m free, she smashed the world record. So I'm so excited

:56:05. > :56:09.to see what she's got in the 800m and how much she can break the world

:56:10. > :56:13.record. The Americans have a habit of churning out athletes who can win

:56:14. > :56:17.time and time again, Missy Franklin, four golds in London, Michael Phelps

:56:18. > :56:20.- he's had a few hasn't he? What about Katie Ledecky? She's another

:56:21. > :56:25.one. She's another great. I think... Who knows if Michael Phelps will go

:56:26. > :56:30.on. That might be the end of Michael Phelps after this. He came back to

:56:31. > :56:35.prove a point. He's the greatest. Will he give up now? He's got a few

:56:36. > :56:38.more years but now they've got Katie Ledecky in the mix and some new

:56:39. > :56:42.freestylers coming through. They've got such a lot of people that swim

:56:43. > :56:46.in the States. Because the States takes swimming seriously,

:56:47. > :56:50.sometimes... In some events, gold and silver goes because they are

:56:51. > :56:54.that good. They've got a pool of people and it's no surprise that the

:56:55. > :56:58.best athletes in the world from Europe and around the world go and

:56:59. > :57:01.train in America, best facility it's, best coaches. People talk

:57:02. > :57:07.about legacies and what happens after an Olympic Games but how

:57:08. > :57:10.exciting is this for you, Beccy? Three phenomenal young swimmers, out

:57:11. > :57:13.there doing brilliant things for women in swimming, Katie Ledecky,

:57:14. > :57:16.Sarah Sjostrom. Definitely and they're doing things for women in

:57:17. > :57:22.sport to be honest, not just swimming. Katie obviously won back

:57:23. > :57:25.in London at the 800m freestyle so to be a defending Olympic Champion

:57:26. > :57:30.as well is something extra special. She's a bit like Adam Petie. She's

:57:31. > :57:35.just not been beaten. This was the first time in the semifinals that we

:57:36. > :57:38.saw her get beat and she doesn't like that. No, it's mine, she

:57:39. > :57:43.thinks. It's nice she has a challenge. She must get a little bit

:57:44. > :57:46.bored of being out on her own all the time. Insure es had to go and

:57:47. > :57:50.train with the gois in America because no-one can keep up with her.

:57:51. > :57:54.Would you get bored? I'm so good at this I've got no rival. I don't

:57:55. > :58:00.think Michael Phelps got bored of it in the end, did he? He got bored of

:58:01. > :58:04.not doing anything so he came back. But somebody comes up and does what

:58:05. > :58:07.Katie does. That's what makes sport so interesting. Someone will start

:58:08. > :58:11.chasing Katie and that's what it is and what makes sport so great. For

:58:12. > :58:14.you, though, and you mentioned Katie training with the guys, you must

:58:15. > :58:18.have trained with the guys because you had no-one that could stay with

:58:19. > :58:22.you? Yeah, no, you do. You kind of go to whoever you have to trained

:58:23. > :58:25.with. And I trained on my own a lot and for Katie it will be interesting

:58:26. > :58:30.because she goes to university in Stanmore now so it will be

:58:31. > :58:33.interesting if she's switching programmes and coaches so I look

:58:34. > :58:37.forward to seeing how she adapts to that. Missy Franklin did that,

:58:38. > :58:42.didn't she? Didn't work out that well. No. Her story for me is so

:58:43. > :58:45.fascinating. Four golds in London, you know, catapulted on to the

:58:46. > :58:48.stage, everybody wanted a piece of her. She could have gone

:58:49. > :58:52.professional and to be crude about it, she could have made a lot of

:58:53. > :58:56.money off the back of that but she chose to go to college, which meant

:58:57. > :58:59.she couldn't take a dive. I thought she went to college for two years

:59:00. > :59:07.and then pro for two years. They-of-she did. She tried to do

:59:08. > :59:12.both. It hasn't paid off. You don't know if it's that or just that if

:59:13. > :59:15.she's hit her peak. We've seen people make amazing comebacks but

:59:16. > :59:18.Missy Franklin is still smiling. She's the smiliest sweetest woman on

:59:19. > :59:23.the planet, though. What's interesting with sport is it's one

:59:24. > :59:27.thing getting there and then, like you say about Ledecky, you get

:59:28. > :59:34.bored. What's your motivation? Some people stay motivated. Some people

:59:35. > :59:37.find - and there was a colleague of mine Simon Burnett, but Simon

:59:38. > :59:41.Burnett was an unbelievable talent, went to America, trained in America,

:59:42. > :59:44.went to university and when he stopped university and concentrated

:59:45. > :59:47.on swimming, he got slower. Maybe Missy went to university and

:59:48. > :59:51.couldn't deal with two things. It sounds simple but sometimes athletes

:59:52. > :59:55.are just good at doing one thing but they need to be distracted by other

:59:56. > :59:58.things. It can't be the be all and end all and other people like lots

:59:59. > :00:02.of things going on. We're human after all. We're complicated

:00:03. > :00:05.characters. But that's a can of wormless and I don't think it's

:00:06. > :00:11.something we'll go down on this programme right here right now. It's

:00:12. > :00:17.a late-night show, Helen. It's deep. Thank you. British bregs stroke is

:00:18. > :00:21.in such a strong place, it's almost like Andrew Willis gets to the

:00:22. > :00:26.bottom. We don't talk about him so much because of Ross Murdoch, Adam

:00:27. > :00:33.Petie, Andrew Willis - how will he go in the semifinal?

:00:34. > :00:37.I think him and Craig Bensonment have so much to prove. Michael

:00:38. > :00:42.Jamieson getting the silver last time. There's a lot of pressure on

:00:43. > :00:47.them to repeat what others have done. Do you think they felt the

:00:48. > :00:50.pressure? They must do. They must know people are talking behind

:00:51. > :00:54.their, backs and saying, "Why isn't Ross doing it?" You want the belief.

:00:55. > :00:58.To be honest, I think everyone is backing these guys. Everyone wants

:00:59. > :01:01.them to do well here and I hope Craig - he wasn't on form this

:01:02. > :01:05.morning so I hope he can pull it out of the bag tonight and make

:01:06. > :01:10.theifiable. Ross is European champion in the 200m breaststroke

:01:11. > :01:16.but didn't do the time at qualifiers so he's not in this. You don't want

:01:17. > :01:21.it to overshad qulo their experience of this Games, do you? We have

:01:22. > :01:24.qualification for a reason and there's a qualification time, if you

:01:25. > :01:28.don't do the time on the day, you don't go.

:01:29. > :01:31.Andrew Willis and Craig Benson are our two best athletes. He looked

:01:32. > :01:35.great this morning, light in the water, Andrew. Craig, I think, will

:01:36. > :01:41.have hard work out there this evening. But, again, we've seen some

:01:42. > :01:46.outside lanes get in so he's got a lane and he's got a chance.

:01:47. > :01:49.Andrew Willis and Craig Benson are the boys in the 200m breaststroke

:01:50. > :01:57.for Britain. Our boys go in the second. This is the first semifinal.

:01:58. > :02:03.You just so you Josh Prenot, the second fastest man in history on

:02:04. > :02:09.this 200m breaststroke and the time was a new American record. The world

:02:10. > :02:19.record is 2:07.0. Can he go here? I'm not sure. Balandin - keep an eye

:02:20. > :02:26.on him. He broke the Asian record a couple of years ago. He's been down

:02:27. > :02:30.at 2:207.6. Balandin in three. They didn't show much form, the two this

:02:31. > :02:34.morning, keeping it a little bit dry, keeping the powder dry, not

:02:35. > :02:42.easy to do in a swimming pool! But they did. And there's Koseki. He was

:02:43. > :02:49.the fattest in the first semifinal, second fastest qualifier in the top

:02:50. > :02:53.16. And he was fifth at the world championships last year. So I think

:02:54. > :02:58.the fastest guys, certainly with the best time, are two, three and four,

:02:59. > :03:10.with Josh Prenot in two, unusually, second fastest man in history and

:03:11. > :03:16.Balandin from Kazakhstan in three. Well, the world record, Yamaguchi,

:03:17. > :03:25.Prenot doesn't swim it that way. He can go world record even if he's 62

:03:26. > :03:30.low. First semifinal of the men's 200m

:03:31. > :03:35.breaststroke. Koseki of Japan. They're having a good meet, the

:03:36. > :03:39.Japanese, right from the start, gold and bronze on the 400m medley, the

:03:40. > :03:52.first event and they've kept on rolling.

:03:53. > :04:02.Possibly right in the centre, Koseki of Japan, the best starter. Both

:04:03. > :04:06.Japanese, Andy, both Black Caps there, Koseki and Watanabe, four and

:04:07. > :04:11.six, beautiful, long, stretching strokes. They were in first, up

:04:12. > :04:18.first. It's interesting to see the technique on breaststroke.

:04:19. > :04:22.Really, long, effective, efficient swimming and then the pace starts to

:04:23. > :04:25.hot up somewhere around the 150m mark and they start accelerating the

:04:26. > :04:34.stroke rate. But at this point, if you can get to

:04:35. > :04:50.the 100m, I would suggest with these guys, around 62.5, 63, no, 62.5,

:04:51. > :04:53.with a glide like this. They're seven 100ths outside the world

:04:54. > :04:56.record pace. Two Japanese second and third.

:04:57. > :05:01.And Prenot in fourth. He's two from the top with the black cap. He's

:05:02. > :05:06.really good at coming back at the second 100m. Keep an eye. The two

:05:07. > :05:11.from the right, Prenot there. But Watanabe is picking the pace up on

:05:12. > :05:15.the third 50m. Prenot is coming through now and, Andy, Prenot has a

:05:16. > :05:24.good, strong last 50m, all on world record pace. It could be going.

:05:25. > :05:27.A world record is held by a Japanese and he's almost a quarter of a

:05:28. > :05:30.second underneath the world record pace.

:05:31. > :05:34.Ippei Watanabe in six is looking good. Coming back is Koseki in four

:05:35. > :05:38.for Japan. Prenot still going well and at the moment it looks like it

:05:39. > :05:41.may be Watanabe who is going to take this first semifinal. We thought it

:05:42. > :05:47.might be a world record. Often they go in the semis with a little bit of

:05:48. > :05:53.less pressure but look at this, Watanabe, the world record is

:05:54. > :05:58.2:07.01. He's just missed it. 2:07.22. Just a tiny hitch of a

:05:59. > :06:02.stroke at the end cost him the world record but a very, very good swim

:06:03. > :06:07.indeed. That was a magnificent swim-of-. That was brilliant.

:06:08. > :06:11.Really, really strong. Olympic records for watts watt, the

:06:12. > :06:15.19-year-old. Well, he's swimming youth Olympic Games a couple of

:06:16. > :06:20.years ago. Changing of the guard. The Olympic record went. We saw him

:06:21. > :06:30.in the heats. Didn't make it through to either of the semifinals. And his

:06:31. > :06:35.team-mate congratulating him. Well, the pair of them swum very well.

:06:36. > :06:41.First and third and Prenot not back as strongly as I thought he would

:06:42. > :06:47.be. Still swam well. Andy, I think world record. You shouted it out.

:06:48. > :06:50.Wait a day. Wait a day. 24 hours and you might be there. I'm going to

:06:51. > :06:55.wait around four minutes. I wonder whether it may go in the second

:06:56. > :07:04.semifinal because that's certainly possible. Chupkov, the young

:07:05. > :07:11.Russian. He's qualified fastest in all the heats this morning with a

:07:12. > :07:15.2:07.9. Young. Beautiful technique. Came back strong little. Can he find

:07:16. > :07:27.another second? He'll need another second. Get off! Get off me head!

:07:28. > :07:31.I've just swum the Olympics 200m breaststroke! Get your hand off my

:07:32. > :07:36.head! So the first semifinal, a new

:07:37. > :07:41.Olympic record for Ippei Watanabe of Japan. Brilliant swimming from both

:07:42. > :07:44.Japanese, Watanabe first, Koseki third and Prenot second. That's

:07:45. > :07:47.impressive. If I'm Andrew Willis or Craig

:07:48. > :07:51.Benson, are you looking at that? Are you looking at the fact he went so

:07:52. > :07:56.close to the world record and thinking, "Oh, no, this will be

:07:57. > :08:04.tough!" Are you thinking, "Bring it on?" Andrew will thinkle it's game

:08:05. > :08:07.on. It's been 2:08.0 this year so the bottom line is he's in good

:08:08. > :08:10.shape. You sit in the back and you watch the screen to see how fast

:08:11. > :08:14.everybody has gone. You want people to go slow because we want to make

:08:15. > :08:19.it to the final. But everybody does a flier! No but he'll take

:08:20. > :08:23.confidence from it. Someone should do the world record at some point

:08:24. > :08:27.and it will probably go in the final this evening. A lot of guys are

:08:28. > :08:32.close together. We saw Andrew Willis come out there. You're fascinated

:08:33. > :08:36.about these massive coats. It was Craig Benson who came out. We're

:08:37. > :08:41.still waiting for Andrew. You're fascinated by the coats. As an

:08:42. > :08:46.athlete you want to stay really warm but you take the clothes off and

:08:47. > :08:51.splash with cold water so you go one extreme to another. Why splash

:08:52. > :08:55.yourself with the water? It's a mixture of securing your hat and

:08:56. > :09:01.suits and a mixture of taking the shock from hot to cold away from

:09:02. > :09:06.you. Remember with Craig Benson, he's more of a 100m swimmer. If you

:09:07. > :09:10.can get out there and hang on, you get a place in the final.

:09:11. > :09:14.Good night for the Americans so far and there he is, a man a lot of

:09:15. > :09:18.people will recognise and will know and expect a lot from him. He got

:09:19. > :09:23.himself a gold medal in London in 2012. Can he get one in this?

:09:24. > :09:27.Possibly. It will be tight. He's got a wonderful stroke. Here's our boy,

:09:28. > :09:32.Andrew Willis. He said himself that he has controlled excitement. Let's

:09:33. > :09:36.see if he can control his swimming in this one. He chose not to go for

:09:37. > :09:42.the big coat. Thank you, Helen. You join us as all

:09:43. > :09:47.eight swimmers have arrived at the pool at their blocks and Anton

:09:48. > :09:51.Chupkov, the 18-year-old Russian fastest qualifier this morning and

:09:52. > :09:58.next to him is Marco Koch, the World Champion, the 26-year-old. There's

:09:59. > :10:02.the young 18-year-old. He's still got a medal round his neck, a little

:10:03. > :10:06.chain round his neck. What's he doing? He needs to take it off.

:10:07. > :10:08.Andrew Willis of Great Britain. What a great opportunity he's got to make

:10:09. > :10:15.this final. He really has. Craig Benson will be

:10:16. > :10:20.closest to us in lane eight from University of Stirling.

:10:21. > :10:26.Will il, of course, from Bath -- Willis, of course, from Bath.

:10:27. > :10:32.Super chance to make the final. The first semi, the first guys were

:10:33. > :10:36.quick but after that it was relatively sensible, 2:08.5 or so

:10:37. > :10:42.and you could make the final. What's he got a necklace on for? It's a

:10:43. > :10:45.lucky charm, got to be. He could tuck it in his hat,

:10:46. > :10:57.couldn't he? Semifinal number two, men's 200m

:10:58. > :11:01.breaststroke. We almost saw a world record in the first semi and Marco

:11:02. > :11:05.Koch of Germany up in three, a very good start. Well, Andrew Willis

:11:06. > :11:10.normally wintds it up, starts comfortably and winds it up but he's

:11:11. > :11:14.had a good start down the first 25m. He's been working on his stroke.

:11:15. > :11:18.There's the underwater shot, make it more efficient, do a few less

:11:19. > :11:25.strokes, winding up into turn though. This is interesting. He's

:11:26. > :11:30.raised it by an extra stroke or two. Cordes turning first. Underwater

:11:31. > :11:35.deep for Cordes and Willis right on the line. Well, the 26-year-old from

:11:36. > :11:39.Germany, Koch, World Champion, as we know. He was the junior champion

:11:40. > :11:43.back in 2008. He's had a great career. But Andrew Willis looks very

:11:44. > :11:48.good. In the right-hand side of those two lanes - and this is really

:11:49. > :11:52.helpful that Kevin Cordes is doing this - he got a silver in the World

:11:53. > :11:59.Championships last year to Koch and he didn't enjoy being beaten. Koch

:12:00. > :12:05.overtook him in the last 25m. Cordes under. Chupkov still in it.

:12:06. > :12:08.Beautiful underwater. Look how close his hands were when he came down.

:12:09. > :12:13.Willis going with him in the red hat. This looks very good. Also Koch

:12:14. > :12:20.at the top there. So Koch in about third. Coming through is Chupkov,

:12:21. > :12:23.the Russian in four. Still Cordes one, Willis two of Great Britain and

:12:24. > :12:29.Benson still in it. He can still make the final if he can wind up

:12:30. > :12:33.down the last 250m. First over is Cordes. Second is Andrew Willis.

:12:34. > :12:38.Turning fifth is Craig Benson. He's still a chance. Cordes half a second

:12:39. > :12:41.under the world record and Willis extending his stroke. Cordes holding

:12:42. > :12:45.on. It could be near the world record. Koch is going strong.

:12:46. > :12:52.Strong. -- coming back. Unbelievable. Chupkov in the middle.

:12:53. > :12:55.Oh, they've eased back. Andrew Willis is coming through and may

:12:56. > :13:01.take it. If this is a fast swim, could it be a world record? Get the

:13:02. > :13:06.finish very close indeed? 2:07.7. They did slow down a little bit and

:13:07. > :13:09.Andrew Willis takes the second semifinal and will go through

:13:10. > :13:14.comfortably into tomorrow's finals. That's very good swimming indeed

:13:15. > :13:22.from him, the perfect pacing, Ade. Personal best time, the British

:13:23. > :13:29.record held by Ross Murdoch, 2:07.0 he's done a good job. Cordes did all

:13:30. > :13:33.the work. Willis was efficient, effective, held his technique. Very

:13:34. > :13:37.brave thing to do. Very strong and Koch coming over to congratulate the

:13:38. > :13:42.two of them. Quite interesting, actually.

:13:43. > :13:48.At the top of your picture there, Marco Koch coming from behind.

:13:49. > :13:52.Willis just pipping out #c6789 ordes there.

:13:53. > :13:57.-- Cordes there. Lovely shot that with the water exploding in front of

:13:58. > :14:00.them as their breath - partly as their breath comes up but also as

:14:01. > :14:09.the arms whip around. It's a good finish, nice finish on

:14:10. > :14:13.the full stroke and Andrew Willis, longer arms, beating Cordes and he

:14:14. > :14:18.deserves to be in the final. He's been consistent through his career

:14:19. > :14:31.since 2012. Cheeky wink from Andrew Willis as well.

:14:32. > :14:42.A good experience for him, though. So, let's see the finalists in this

:14:43. > :14:49.men's 200m breaststroke. Willis will be in lane five in the

:14:50. > :14:57.final. So, he will be in five, next to Watanabe and Koseki. Wow.

:14:58. > :15:02.Well, a great swim from Andrew Willis there. A cheeky little wink

:15:03. > :15:06.seems almost out of character for this self-confessed quiet man, isn't

:15:07. > :15:09.it? He is very different. He's a great character to have on the team.

:15:10. > :15:13.He is very, very funny as well. I'm not surprised by that at all. What a

:15:14. > :15:16.fantastic swim from him. Perfectly controlled, just as he did this

:15:17. > :15:19.morning. It is gonna be such a close final tomorrow night. There's

:15:20. > :15:24.literally one second between the first and eighth person. You can see

:15:25. > :15:29.he's clearly worked on his skills. Off the start and turns. Cordes was

:15:30. > :15:33.6'7", a monster. He's turning with him. He's from the States and the

:15:34. > :15:40.States do tend to have the best skills. He was staying with him.

:15:41. > :15:45.Well, let's hear from Nick, because he's got Andrew Willis.

:15:46. > :15:50.A massive congratulations, Andrew. A huge personal best? Yeah. I felt

:15:51. > :15:56.good. I felt long and I tried to pick it up in the back end. Yeah, a

:15:57. > :16:03.big PB. So, I wanted to come here and go 2. 07, so, you know, I'm

:16:04. > :16:07.really chuffed with that. So, I'm in the final and now it's the one to

:16:08. > :16:11.play for. After making a final here, I'm sure you're xwoon want to move

:16:12. > :16:14.on. It's gonna take big times like that to get on the podium?

:16:15. > :16:18.Definitely. I have been in this position so many times. I'm not

:16:19. > :16:21.gonna take anything for granted. I'm just gonna make sure that I go out

:16:22. > :16:26.there, enjoy it and try and stick to what I just did tonight. And

:16:27. > :16:29.hopefully the others will, you know, mess around a bit and I will sneak

:16:30. > :16:35.through. Very best of luck. Thank you.

:16:36. > :16:38.Well, look at Michael Phelps twitching around there, not because

:16:39. > :16:43.he's nervous. He has been on the top of that podium plenty of times. He's

:16:44. > :16:47.very used to it. But he has, of course, got the relay still to come,

:16:48. > :16:50.the 4 x 200. And the British boys are going in that one a little bit

:16:51. > :16:55.later on as well. Congratulations. It's fair to say, guys, we have been

:16:56. > :17:00.absolutely swarmed, haven't we? Yes. All around there are loads and loads

:17:01. > :17:04.of cameras, lenses trained on that podium, everybody getting ready for

:17:05. > :17:07.Michael Phelps and his 20th gold. Andrew, Adrian, we are really

:17:08. > :17:10.witnessing another special chapter in Michael Phelps' career, aren't

:17:11. > :17:15.we? We certainly are, Helen. It just

:17:16. > :17:25.seems to go on and on and on. Quite amazing. Well, that is a brilliant

:17:26. > :17:26.swim for that young man, the 19-year-old, Tamas Kenderisi.

:17:27. > :17:31.Qualified fastest for the final. Who would have thought? The pressure for

:17:32. > :17:36.his countryman, the team-mate. But next to him, the other side, Michael

:17:37. > :17:40.Phelps. And he dealt with the pressure really well. The starter,

:17:41. > :17:47.remember, took them off the blocks. He did cope with that. I think it

:17:48. > :17:51.threw him for the first five metres. What a brilliant swim for the

:17:52. > :17:55.swimmer from Japan. He was down in lane 7 and nobody really saw him. He

:17:56. > :17:58.was swimming his own race and he almost touched out Phelps. Almost

:17:59. > :18:10.got there. And, well, Tokyo, here we come. It was an brilliant swim. It

:18:11. > :18:15.really was. It's something that I don't think any of us really

:18:16. > :18:18.expected at all. He was fourth at the World Championships, but to come

:18:19. > :18:26.second at the Olympic Games... Well, here he is. His 20th Olympic gold

:18:27. > :18:31.medal. His 24th medal in total. He's got 20 golds now, two silvers, two

:18:32. > :18:38.bronzes. He's the greatest of all time. His mates call him the GOAT -

:18:39. > :18:44.G-O-A-T- - greatest of all time. Unbeatable. It was gold in Athens in

:18:45. > :18:50.2004. It was gold in Beijing in 2008. And silver in 2012 to Chad Le

:18:51. > :18:55.Clos, a massive shock. And he comes back four years later after taking a

:18:56. > :18:57.break, and he wins gold again. The first man in history to win four

:18:58. > :18:57.consecutive break, and he wins gold again. The

:18:58. > :19:00.first man in history to win four consecutive Olympic medals in the

:19:01. > :19:07.same event. Three golds and a silver. And if this is his last

:19:08. > :19:12.event, Adrian, I think he will be remembered for this eevent, the 200

:19:13. > :19:18.fly, and the whole world standing to salute him. So they should. He's

:19:19. > :19:21.come through such a lot since 2012 as well. You should read some of the

:19:22. > :19:25.things of Michael Phelps finding himself, going through some very big

:19:26. > :19:29.personal trauma, and personal differences, personal changes - a

:19:30. > :19:32.new baby boy, Boomer, here to watch his father. Brilliant.

:19:33. > :20:47.AN THEN PLAYS It's the one he wanted. It's the one

:20:48. > :20:51.he came back for. There has been verbal sparring and in the end he

:20:52. > :20:57.came through to win his 20th Olympic gold medal. Michael Phelps, 24

:20:58. > :21:01.medals in total. And a tear. I think that's the first time I've seen a

:21:02. > :21:06.tear, and it took 24 medals to get there. Goodness me. Outstanding. He

:21:07. > :21:10.was trying to hold it in a little bit, wasn't he? Very interesting.

:21:11. > :21:13.I'm sure he wanted to let the whole thing out, you know? There's a lot

:21:14. > :21:17.to come out there for Michael Phelps. But he's got the relay. He's

:21:18. > :21:21.got another race tonight. But that means a huge amount to him. You said

:21:22. > :21:25.that. If this is the close of his career, on the event that he started

:21:26. > :21:28.with back in Sydney as a 15-year-old, brilliant giddle. And a

:21:29. > :21:34.massive smile. He's now -- gold medal. And a massive smile. He's now

:21:35. > :21:35.soaking it up. He will be running around, I imagine, to get ready for

:21:36. > :21:49.the relay. Wow. What an absolute privilege to

:21:50. > :21:53.witness this. The greatest Olympian of all time taking his 20th gold

:21:54. > :21:58.Olympic medal. There are hundreds of people who have pushed their way to

:21:59. > :22:02.the front of the barriers to get photographs. People taking

:22:03. > :22:06.ceremonies. People are practically falling around the barriers around,

:22:07. > :22:10.just to get a glimpse of the great Michael Phelps. I think that's a

:22:11. > :22:18.family member that he's kind of mouthing "I can't believe it" to. I

:22:19. > :22:23.mean, it is unthinkable, isn't it? 20 Olympic gold medals. Yeah. I

:22:24. > :22:29.don't think we'll ever see it again. I mean, he's just one of a kind,

:22:30. > :22:33.clearly. That doesn't happen. And I think he's - and when he says he

:22:34. > :22:37.can't believe it, I don't think he can blof it. I think as great as --

:22:38. > :22:41.believe it. I think as great as he is, coming back and doing this this

:22:42. > :22:45.evening, under all the pressure he had, looking back in 2000, I was

:22:46. > :22:50.there when he came - first Olympics, came fourth at 15. And then since

:22:51. > :22:55.the year after, since 2001, he didn't lose the race for 11 years.

:22:56. > :22:58.He got beaten by Chad. He went away and thought, "I guess everyone needs

:22:59. > :23:03.a challenge in life." It's a pretty big challenge to come back and do

:23:04. > :23:08.that. This crowd just love him. I've never seen that. That was not like

:23:09. > :23:10.that in London. Mental. He really is a living superstar. His star has

:23:11. > :23:14.been well documented. Lots of people have been following the ups and

:23:15. > :23:18.downs away from the swimming pool of Michael Phelps. But he seems to be

:23:19. > :23:22.in a very good place now. The only slightly down side of this is that

:23:23. > :23:30.baby Boomer is not sitting anywhere near. Michael Phelps' 3-month-old

:23:31. > :23:36.son. Becky and I got really, really keen on! Let's see some of the

:23:37. > :23:38.tweets coming in from around the world, because as I said, everybody

:23:39. > :23:49.loves Michael Phelps. I wonder if that's the Hoff having a

:23:50. > :23:58.little practice as well? Have a look at this. Look at that face. It's

:23:59. > :24:03.Katie Ledecky getting an autograph from her hero. That was 10 years

:24:04. > :24:09.ago. Now she's on course to maybe not get 20, but you never know.

:24:10. > :24:14.She's going the right way about it. Yeah, I think for Katie, she's even

:24:15. > :24:18.this - competition itself, she's just incredible. You can't compare

:24:19. > :24:22.her to -- you can compare her to Michael Phelps. Just what she's

:24:23. > :24:25.done, it's amazing. Keeps breaking world record after world record. And

:24:26. > :24:30.both of them - what a lovely picture. Such an amazing hero to

:24:31. > :24:35.look up to. Just have a look at this. You see? We're not getting

:24:36. > :24:40.anywhere near baby Boomer. I'm not fighting with those guys. That's his

:24:41. > :24:49.mum there he's giving a kiss to. What an amazing family unit. Oh,

:24:50. > :24:54.baby Boomer! Oh. Aww! What an amazing moment for that family. Only

:24:55. > :24:58.Michael Phelps can hold the pool up! But the thing is, you know, we talk

:24:59. > :25:03.about Michael Phelps. I mean, is he man or machine, because of what he

:25:04. > :25:07.has done over the last few years? A man, right? That's what I'm seeing.

:25:08. > :25:12.At the end of the day, he's somebody's baby boy. He's somebody's

:25:13. > :25:18.daddy. He is just human. Well, we've all got a mum, right? We've all got

:25:19. > :25:25.a dad. No, don't go, Becky! That is so lovely! But I think that it's

:25:26. > :25:29.different in this sport, isn't it? I mean, I spend all of my life

:25:30. > :25:34.watching sport. There's a different level of emotion here. Yes, there

:25:35. > :25:38.are your Michael Phelps who have an unbelievable career. But we all know

:25:39. > :25:41.for every Michael Phelps, there are hundreds of thousands, millions of

:25:42. > :25:44.swimmers who are working, striving every day who aren't gonna get

:25:45. > :25:48.there. We kind of all understand that family sacrifice. Yeah, it's

:25:49. > :25:52.all about family. We talk about that so much this week. How much they

:25:53. > :25:55.sacrifice. You learn to swim at three years old and you can't drive

:25:56. > :25:59.until you're 17. You pretty much rely on your parents for such a huge

:26:00. > :26:03.chunk of your swimming life. And it's just a lovely moment to be able

:26:04. > :26:06.to share with his baby as well as his mum. Just an amazing moment.

:26:07. > :26:10.What a moment for the family to witness. What a moment for us to

:26:11. > :26:12.witness. And we're hoping there's gonna be something else happening

:26:13. > :26:13.that's very special tonight. And it involves Britain's Siobhan-Marie

:26:14. > :26:25.O'Connor. We are like a little family. And

:26:26. > :26:29.some of us have swum together for years. I've swum with Chris and

:26:30. > :26:32.Andrew for pretty much as long as I have been in the national centre.

:26:33. > :26:35.So, we are literally really, really close. And having Jess in the group

:26:36. > :26:39.as well, really, really push each other on. When we're racing

:26:40. > :26:43.freestyle against each other, I think it's brilliant that we have

:26:44. > :26:46.such a good group. We are all competitive. I don't think we'd be

:26:47. > :26:51.who we are without being competitive. We've all got that

:26:52. > :26:55.competitive streak. Memories of London are just amazing. I mean, it

:26:56. > :26:58.was the best two weeks of my life. I think for any athlete, a home

:26:59. > :27:01.Olympic Games is a dream come true. You know, I was really young so I

:27:02. > :27:05.didn't think I was gonna make the team. When I did, it was just an

:27:06. > :27:09.absolute whirlwind. And I was very lucky that I was able to swim in the

:27:10. > :27:12.Olympic final of the relay. And that was brilliant. That was just a dream

:27:13. > :27:16.come true. It gave me that hunger to kind of want to go and do it again

:27:17. > :27:19.when I'm a bit older and I'm swimming quicker times now, so I'm

:27:20. > :27:26.hoping that this time in Rio I will be able to kind of be in amongst it

:27:27. > :27:28.more and hopefully swim well, yeah. The Commonwealth Games was

:27:29. > :27:32.absolutely incredible. It was a dream week, really. You know, I

:27:33. > :27:35.couldn't have asked for it to go better and the British swimming team

:27:36. > :27:39.have been on a massive roll since that. We keep putting in good

:27:40. > :27:42.performances at all the major meets we're going to. I think we are in a

:27:43. > :27:50.good place going in to Rio. Fingers crossed we can keep it going.

:27:51. > :27:54.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor is an inspirational young woman. She's got

:27:55. > :27:58.skills that are envied the world over in the pool. She's got a steely

:27:59. > :28:04.character out of it. Becky is sitting here with her fingers

:28:05. > :28:10.crossed. I think Mark is sitting here with his toes crossed. Andy,

:28:11. > :28:14.let's hope Siobhan can cause an upset.

:28:15. > :28:19.Let's hope she can. The first job will be to swim her race. Not

:28:20. > :28:22.anybody else's race. If she can do exactly what she plans to do and do

:28:23. > :28:28.as well as she can possibly do, then I think she will leave the rest up

:28:29. > :28:32.to fate, because I think she can swim very, very fast. She's in four.

:28:33. > :28:37.She's the fastest qualifier. She's got the world record holder, the

:28:38. > :28:42.great Katinka Hosszu, who's already broken the world record on the 400

:28:43. > :28:47.medley here. She's in lane five next to her. She's won the 100

:28:48. > :28:54.backstroke. Looking at Ye Shiwen. I think it's a

:28:55. > :29:00.backstroke-breaststroke story. Hosszu has that fantastic backstroke

:29:01. > :29:02.and maybe even a second faster than the Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. But

:29:03. > :29:06.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor's breaststroke is better than

:29:07. > :29:11.Hosszu's. I would love to see what happens if they turn equal on the

:29:12. > :29:14.freestyle. It should equal out, the back-breast. Here's a woman trying

:29:15. > :29:17.to dominate medley swimming. And here's the spoiler.

:29:18. > :29:26.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor of Great Britain. Trains in Bath with David,

:29:27. > :29:29.her coach. A huge British record to qualify fast for this final. She's

:29:30. > :29:32.been in this position before, though. She won the Commonwealth

:29:33. > :29:38.Games. She's got great experience on the world stage now. At the

:29:39. > :29:43.Europeans, she got a silver medal. Could she get a medal, well, of any

:29:44. > :29:47.colour, I have to say I would be pleased with. But she has a cracking

:29:48. > :29:53.chance of pushing Katinka Hosszu here. Absolutely. Keeping an eye on

:29:54. > :29:57.her. She will be out quickly. O'Connor has got good strokes.

:29:58. > :30:02.Looking focused, looking on it. Really, really hope she brings the

:30:03. > :30:09.race of her life to this one. That's the woman who's on a mission.

:30:10. > :30:12.She was the world champion in 2013. And 2015. And European in 2014 and

:30:13. > :30:25.2015. She's not lost a biggie. It's the final at the Olympic Games

:30:26. > :30:29.of the women's 200m individual medley. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor of

:30:30. > :30:30.Great Britain fastest qualifier in four. World record holder Katinka

:30:31. > :30:41.Hosszu in five. So, 50 m butterfly, 50 backstroke,

:30:42. > :30:44.50 breast and then 50 freestyle. This is gonna be really interesting.

:30:45. > :30:48.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor against Hosszu. The red hat against the

:30:49. > :30:53.white hat. Going almost stroke for stroke down this first 50. She's

:30:54. > :30:58.gotta do this. On the pace on the fly. She can get within a tenth of a

:30:59. > :31:02.second. The backstroke, it will go away a little bit from

:31:03. > :31:10.Siobhan-Marie. Can she be level if not ahead after the breaststroke?

:31:11. > :31:14.Deeper than Hosszu. Hosszu up first. Seven one hundredths of a second.

:31:15. > :31:19.Underneath the world record pace. We're expecting Hosszu with the

:31:20. > :31:24.white hat to go away here. She won the 100 backstroke. Alicia Coutts of

:31:25. > :31:28.Australia, she's very good, indeed. So, Hosszu, well, Hosszu has not got

:31:29. > :31:32.as much of a lead as I thought she would have here. And this is very,

:31:33. > :31:37.very good news at the halfway stage for Siobhan-Marie O'Connor of Great

:31:38. > :31:45.Britain. Hosszu first. O'Connor second. And third is Dirado of the

:31:46. > :31:48.USA. She's about three-quarters of a second faster than Hosszu. Hosszu

:31:49. > :31:56.working very hard. Very powerful breaststroke arms. O'Connor coming

:31:57. > :32:00.up. Dirado is a threat here. So, the race is five, four, three, two.

:32:01. > :32:04.Interesting, Siobhan-Marie O'Connor is eating away. I'm not sure if it's

:32:05. > :32:09.enough. Hosszu on the world record pace. I think this is gonna be a

:32:10. > :32:13.tough one for O'Connor. But broken it down. Still held 0. 7 behind.

:32:14. > :32:18.Hosszu going for the world record. Going for gold. And, O'Connor, I

:32:19. > :32:21.think, silver. Well, I have to say 0. 7 is an awful lot. This is a

:32:22. > :32:24.brilliant swim here from Great Britain. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, the

:32:25. > :32:27.Commonwealth champion on this 200m individual medley. And she's not

:32:28. > :32:31.giving up at all. Hosszu is starting to tire a little bit. And coming

:32:32. > :32:35.back in the red hat is Siobhan-Marie O'Connor of Great Britain. She's

:32:36. > :32:38.really trying down this last five. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor is getting

:32:39. > :32:46.very, very close, indeed! It looks like the gold has gone to Hosszu,

:32:47. > :32:49.but only just. My goodness. That was an amazing last 50m freestyle for

:32:50. > :32:52.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. It's silver to Great Britain. It's silver to

:32:53. > :32:55.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. What a wonderful swim! She pushed it all

:32:56. > :33:01.the way. That's one hurting lady. Wow. Gold medal to Hosszu. You can't

:33:02. > :33:07.take it away. But Siobhan-Marie, you swam a great race.

:33:08. > :33:15.So, so close. 0. 3 of a second. And Hosszu was taken right to the wire.

:33:16. > :33:18.When we see the replay of the finish, Siobhan-Marie touched the

:33:19. > :33:22.wall and grabbed quickly to stop sinking. I think both women gave

:33:23. > :33:27.everything. There is Katinka's husband. What a

:33:28. > :33:35.swim. Another massive British record. Great to see. Seven tenths

:33:36. > :33:40.of a second underneath her British record that she set in the heats. In

:33:41. > :33:46.the semifinals. Well, she did well on the backstroke leg not to get

:33:47. > :33:49.Hosszu too far away. But Hosszu, to her credit, held Siobhan-Marie off

:33:50. > :33:56.on the breaststroke. There's ever-excited husband-coach. And

:33:57. > :33:59.Hosszu on the freestyle. And look at this - one stroke. O'Connor

:34:00. > :34:06.stretches and both women grab straight for the wall to hold on

:34:07. > :34:09.before they fall. O'Connor, one arm touches, the other arm on. Olympic

:34:10. > :34:14.silver medal. And she was catching her up very quickly. It was 0. 77 at

:34:15. > :34:18.the 50m to go. It was only 0. 3 at the end. What a last 50 for

:34:19. > :34:22.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. There's the champion, though. She won the 400

:34:23. > :34:28.medley and a new world record. A massive world record that was. A new

:34:29. > :34:32.Olympic record for the new gold medallist on this 200 medley,

:34:33. > :34:35.Katinka Hosszu of Hungary. So, confirmation of a great result for

:34:36. > :34:40.Great Britain. Katinka Hosszu wins the gold for Hungary. A new Olympic

:34:41. > :34:42.record. But Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, brilliant silver for Great Britain.

:34:43. > :35:14.Wonderful, wonderful stuff. Well, Katinka Hosszu, so, so

:35:15. > :35:18.dominant. We saw that in the 400 IM earlier in the week. And we

:35:19. > :35:23.suspected that might happen tonight. But talk us intellectual the fight

:35:24. > :35:28.in Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. Wow. Wow! That was amazing. I'm so happy for

:35:29. > :35:35.Siobhan picking up that silver medal. Just incredible. Just it was

:35:36. > :35:38.so close. I think we all thought that Siobhan is not gonna catch her.

:35:39. > :35:43.Hosszu has a fantastic freestyle. She was not giving up at all,

:35:44. > :35:47.Siobhan. You gotta remember that Katinka broke the world record in

:35:48. > :35:51.the 400 IM by two seconds. She's got so much at the back end, you thought

:35:52. > :35:54.she wasn't gonna get closer. Siobhan, given so much already, but

:35:55. > :35:59.found that fight in her to get closer and closer. Towards the end

:36:00. > :36:04.here, if there was another five metres, she would have got there.

:36:05. > :36:09.She was scared. And she would have lost. Definitely a huge British

:36:10. > :36:13.record for Siobhan. A huge PB. I think she will be absolutely so over

:36:14. > :36:17.the moon with that swim. You saw there that was very much like skills

:36:18. > :36:24.against brute force. Siobhan has got all the skills. Her technique is

:36:25. > :36:28.beautiful. Her dive, her interir, underwater work, pull-out -- entry,

:36:29. > :36:32.underwater work, pull-out, it's just beautiful. Hosszu, brute force. A

:36:33. > :36:39.huge congratulations to Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. Silver medal

:36:40. > :36:44.to her. We are turning our attention to the men's 4 x 200m relay. Michael

:36:45. > :36:47.Phelps is back in the pool. And the British will be excited. What

:36:48. > :36:51.happened earlier today in the heat was pretty impressive by the British

:36:52. > :36:55.boys? They all stepped up and delivered. They are going in fastest

:36:56. > :36:59.for this final tonight. They're bringing in James Guy. Hopefully

:37:00. > :37:02.they can drop at least another two seconds. Robbie ran this morning,

:37:03. > :37:06.but he's not gonna be in the final. He will get a medal, though, if we

:37:07. > :37:10.get one? Yeah, he was part of the team this morning, so, yeah. This is

:37:11. > :37:14.gonna be tight. I hope Michael Phelps is exhausted. OK, Andrew,

:37:15. > :37:18.Adrian, the British boys are world champions in this. Let's see if they

:37:19. > :37:24.can get an Olympic medal to add to the collection.

:37:25. > :37:28.Well, thank you, Helen. You join us with the Russian Federation coming

:37:29. > :37:36.out in lane three. Third-fastest qualifiers for this final. And

:37:37. > :37:41.they're gonna be right next to Great Britain. Look at this now. Team USA,

:37:42. > :37:47.and number two from the left, he has just won the 200 fly and he's gonna

:37:48. > :37:51.anchor the American 4 x 200m freestyle relay. They've got Conor

:37:52. > :37:56.Dwyer, Townley Haas, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps. Here we go. Team

:37:57. > :38:00.Great Britain. We've got Stephen Milne leading us off. What a massive

:38:01. > :38:05.job he's got to do. Then Duncan Scott, who broke that British record

:38:06. > :38:09.on the 100 free. Made the final. Daniel Wallace on that world record

:38:10. > :38:13.- World Championship-winning team left-year. And then James Guy,

:38:14. > :38:18.fourth on the individual, world champion on the 200 free. It's an

:38:19. > :38:21.interesting match-up. Looking at the British team and American team,

:38:22. > :38:24.Milne going off first, he will be racing against Conor Dwyer. Dwyer

:38:25. > :38:29.got the bronze medal on the 200. Important to stay as close as he can

:38:30. > :38:34.to him. Then they put Duncan Scott on second, the British team, to try

:38:35. > :38:37.and make up some of the lead. He did a 1.45 this morning, the feaft of

:38:38. > :38:41.the split of anybody this morning. 1. -- the fastest split of anybody

:38:42. > :38:46.this morning. Dwyer might get away from Milne. Milne has gotta dig in,

:38:47. > :38:53.try and do what he did this morning. A personal best off the block this

:38:54. > :38:56.morning, a 1.46.7. Dwyer might take the best out of him. Hopefully not.

:38:57. > :39:00.Scott to pull it back. Wallace against Lochte. Team-mates at the

:39:01. > :39:05.University of the Florida. And then James Guy against Michael Phelps. I

:39:06. > :39:10.would love to see James Guy go level against Phelps. I have a funny

:39:11. > :39:14.feeling he might be a bit behind. What we definitely don't want is the

:39:15. > :39:17.Americans to get too far ahead. Of course, when they dive in, the waves

:39:18. > :39:23.really do go washing into the next lanes.

:39:24. > :39:27.Again, you may well need to excuse us, because we've got the Brazilian

:39:28. > :39:30.commentator next to us, and I have to say I've never met a louder

:39:31. > :39:38.bloke. He's ignoring the whistle completely, isn't he?

:39:39. > :39:43.The final of the men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay. Team USA in five,

:39:44. > :39:49.Great Britain in four. So, Stephen Milne, what a great job

:39:50. > :39:52.he's got to do here, leading off in the Olympic final. Fastest

:39:53. > :39:58.qualifiers, the British team, with a red hat in lane four. Gone off very

:39:59. > :40:03.quickly in seven. Thomas Fraser-Holmes of Australia. And also

:40:04. > :40:08.Conor Dwyer of the USA in the other centre lane. Well, most of the

:40:09. > :40:12.important records in this event are sub-seven minutes. They're all from

:40:13. > :40:14.2009, a world, European, Commonwealth record. I don't think

:40:15. > :40:21.they're gonna get under seven minutes for this. The Americans have

:40:22. > :40:27.been pushing hard for seven minutes, 67.01, 7. -- 7.01, 67.02. Thomas

:40:28. > :40:30.Fraser-Holmes is a great talent. I would like to see Fraser-Holmes swim

:40:31. > :40:35.better in some of the individual races. But he does deliver on relays

:40:36. > :40:40.and he's doing a great job for the Aussies here. Turning in first.

:40:41. > :40:44.Well, he's gone off very fast, indeed, as has lane five, Conor

:40:45. > :40:48.Dwyer of the USA. And Great Britain's Stephen Milne turning in

:40:49. > :40:53.seventh. He just has to stay as close as he possibly can. Russia one

:40:54. > :40:56.lane up from him as well in the black hat of the Russian Federation.

:40:57. > :41:00.Really going well. Really important to stay in contention here. Duncan

:41:01. > :41:06.Scott swum a fantastic heat this morning. Milne, be seventh. He's got

:41:07. > :41:09.work to do. Conor Dwyer leading now for the USA. And Thomas

:41:10. > :41:15.Fraser-Holmes of Australia going well. Milne down on Dwyer at the 150

:41:16. > :41:19.mark. He's really good dig in. Left-hand of those yellow lanes, we

:41:20. > :41:22.can't give this much of a lead-up, I don't think. It's gonna be very

:41:23. > :41:26.difficult right now. Duncan Scott is gonna get pretty horrendous waves as

:41:27. > :41:33.he dives in. Conor Dwyer coming through. 1.45.23. Well, not a bad

:41:34. > :41:38.start for Stephen Milne at all. 1.46.9 for him. So, now we have

:41:39. > :41:41.Duncan Scott. Duncan Scott swam 1.45. He's gotta swim away from the

:41:42. > :41:46.American line here, because the Americans are starting to give a

:41:47. > :41:51.little bit of waves. That is Townley Haas of the USA leading. But only

:41:52. > :41:55.just leading, because up in two the Japanese put their real quick guys

:41:56. > :42:00.first and second. It's USA, one, Japan in two. Australia in three.

:42:01. > :42:04.And Great Britain now to come back into fourth place. And this is a

:42:05. > :42:06.good start from Duncan Scott. Duncan Scott, in the picture here. But

:42:07. > :42:12.brilliant swimming from the Americans. I don't think we're gonna

:42:13. > :42:16.catch the Americans right now. We've gotta get back in medal contention.

:42:17. > :42:21.The Japanese, as you mentioned, have gone first. The first two swimmers.

:42:22. > :42:28.Scott still over in fourth place. 2.37.33. Going strongly. And look at

:42:29. > :42:35.that. The Russian Federation has got on their feet. Got on the waist of

:42:36. > :42:38.Scott. With a bit of luck, we will be handing in fourth place. The

:42:39. > :42:48.Australians slowing down a little bit. Dan Smith, the Australians'

:42:49. > :42:51.third swimmer. Well, the United States on world record. We've got

:42:52. > :42:56.Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps, the next two swimmers. Well, they

:42:57. > :43:00.certainly could do it. But the battle on for silver, bronze, fourth

:43:01. > :43:03.and fifth at the moment. And Team Great Britain with the red hat.

:43:04. > :43:06.Duncan Scott having a good leg. Very, very strong from the USA,

:43:07. > :43:12.though. Townley Haas about to hand over to Ryan Lochte. So, it's USA,

:43:13. > :43:15.one. Japan still in two, with Great Britain just in fourth position.

:43:16. > :43:21.Good leg from Duncan Scott there. And Duncan Scott now hands it over

:43:22. > :43:25.to Daniel Wallace, the Commonwealth Games champion on the 400 medley.

:43:26. > :43:28.Really, really important leg for Great Britain here. James Guy on the

:43:29. > :43:34.final leg, the world champion on the 200 free. He will be chasing Michael

:43:35. > :43:39.Phelps. The USA now five or six metres ahead. USA, one, Japan just

:43:40. > :43:42.about two, with Australia in third, and Great Britain in fourth. Well,

:43:43. > :43:46.it's gonna be a real battle for those silver medals, isn't it?

:43:47. > :43:50.Duncan Scott did exactly the same time as he did this morning.

:43:51. > :43:52.1.45.05. The Japanese team hanging in there. The Australians also. And

:43:53. > :44:01.Daniel Wallace starting to come through. The moment is a battle for

:44:02. > :44:05.fourth place. The British and the Russian Federation. Turning

:44:06. > :44:12.fourth-fifth very quickly in succession. It's gonna be a big job

:44:13. > :44:16.to do for James Guy. Although, Wallace did accelerate off that wall

:44:17. > :44:20.then. Wallace now putting in some pretty big effort on the kick. I'm

:44:21. > :44:22.quite happy with this position at the moment. I don't think we're

:44:23. > :44:27.going to get anywhere near Team USA. But we're giving James Guy a chance

:44:28. > :44:32.here. This is good news. Ryan Lochte is streets ahead now. Six metres or

:44:33. > :44:36.seven metres ahead. Japan in second, Australia, third. But they did not

:44:37. > :44:39.put their best swimmer, Cameron McEvoy, in this relay at all. He

:44:40. > :44:44.should really be head-to-head with James Guy. That gives us a super

:44:45. > :44:48.chance. Russia having a go in fifth place. Now Daniel Wallace starting

:44:49. > :44:54.to bring us in pretty much equal third. USA and Ryan Lochte, well,

:44:55. > :45:02.his wheels are falling off really badly. USA, one. Great Britain now

:45:03. > :45:08.in a bronze medal position. And we've got our world champion, James

:45:09. > :45:16.Guy, in. And he's going like a shot. He's against Japan in two. Can James

:45:17. > :45:19.Guy catch up for the silver medal? Russia, very strong back-end

:45:20. > :45:21.swimmer. James Guy now clawing through the field. He's in third

:45:22. > :45:28.place. The Japanese team in his sights. The great Michael Phelps,

:45:29. > :45:33.though, cruising to another gold medal. And the crowd all standing.

:45:34. > :45:37.They're gonna get 100m of excellence from Phelps. James Guy is coming

:45:38. > :45:43.back very strongly. Looks like he's broken the Russian team. That will

:45:44. > :45:52.be great. It's now GB versus Japan for the bronze and the silver.

:45:53. > :45:57.6.06.11. I tell you what, James Guy is catching him up. Too much to do,

:45:58. > :45:59.surely. 1.4 seconds xes I don't think he's gonna catch Michael

:46:00. > :46:03.Phelps. But he's certainly having a go at the Japanese in lane two. And

:46:04. > :46:07.James Guy does come back very quickly on the second half. He's

:46:08. > :46:11.having a go at Phelps. He really is. He's getting into that lead. I would

:46:12. > :46:16.imagine Michael Phelps has just gone off relatively easy and will come

:46:17. > :46:20.back on the last 50. He always has a fabulous last turn, but he must be

:46:21. > :46:23.exhausted. Great Britain in third position. A great show from James

:46:24. > :46:30.Guy. We can get the silver medal here. Come on, James Guy. It's gold

:46:31. > :46:33.to the USA at the moment. James Guy bringing Team Great Britain into the

:46:34. > :46:36.silver medal position, just about. A wonderful battle going on there with

:46:37. > :46:40.the Japanese up in two. It's USA gonna win it. And I think Great

:46:41. > :46:45.Britain are gonna get the silver, but coming back are the Japanese.

:46:46. > :46:49.Right inside the last ten metres. Gold to USA, silver to Great Britain

:46:50. > :46:53.and bronze to Japan. What a fabulous team effort that was. Oh, Great

:46:54. > :46:58.Britain, well done! A fantastic swim there from James Guy. Michael Phelps

:46:59. > :47:02.taking the gold medal. I think he's holding on to the lane line and

:47:03. > :47:06.James Guy. That took something out of him. That man is exhausted. You

:47:07. > :47:13.could tell. Going into that last turn, he had nothing left. But a

:47:14. > :47:16.Chan, he is. What a great -- but a champion, he is. What a great, great

:47:17. > :47:20.relay. I have to say, the four British swimmers had the swims of

:47:21. > :47:24.their lives there. I don't think they could have asked for more than

:47:25. > :47:27.that silver medal, Andy. They swum really well. And the Japanese were

:47:28. > :47:28.ahead for quite a way. They're hugging each other. Look at that -

:47:29. > :47:38.they're so excited. Whoa. That's fantastic. They're chuffed

:47:39. > :47:44.with their bronze medal. And we're chuffed with their bronze medal as

:47:45. > :47:52.well. Silver. Two silvers tonight in the pool. A bit of fist pumping from

:47:53. > :47:55.Lochte and Phelps. Look at Ryan Lochte's face. It's very difficult

:47:56. > :48:02.to get back to the Americans when they've got these two superstars.

:48:03. > :48:14.And you give them two seconds 'lead. But Phelps was exhausted.

:48:15. > :48:24.To the right of the picture there, in the red cap, is that private

:48:25. > :48:31.battle going on between James Guy and the Japanese swimmer. Well,

:48:32. > :48:36.there's Ryan Lochte in the centre. I have to say, he nearly stopped

:48:37. > :48:40.towards the end of his race. He was utterly exhausted. 1.46, I think,

:48:41. > :48:46.actually, Andy. James Guy, what a final leg. But that was a great

:48:47. > :48:52.British team effort.s whole lot. The lead-off from Stephen Milne, well,

:48:53. > :48:56.he had a really tough job to do. But did his job, 1.46 high. Duncan

:48:57. > :49:00.Scott, brilliant swimming from him. Daniel Wallace, such an important

:49:01. > :49:06.leg, that third leg for us. And then James Guy bringing it home. And an

:49:07. > :49:10.Olympic medal, something never taken away from you. You will always be an

:49:11. > :49:13.Olympic medallist for the rest of your life.

:49:14. > :49:20.Have a seat! LAUGHS

:49:21. > :49:26.Are you gonna come back, Michael? 25 Olympic medals. That's his 21st

:49:27. > :49:36.Olympic gold. Oh, my goodness. He's wrecked. He's absolutely spent.

:49:37. > :49:41.Well, sort of as expected, a gold. Men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay, a

:49:42. > :49:45.great gold medal to Team USA and Michael Phelps' 21st. Great Britain,

:49:46. > :49:50.fantastic. Stephen Milne, Duncan Scott, Daniel Wallace and James Guy,

:49:51. > :49:54.you've won a silver medal for Great Britain in the men's 4 x 200 relay.

:49:55. > :50:02.Stunning stuff. Japan, the bronze. Hey! Don't let me stop your

:50:03. > :50:09.celebrations, you two! Whoo! That was, to coin a phrase by our good

:50:10. > :50:14.friend Bert, hashtag unbelievable. I'm so excited for James Guy. You're

:50:15. > :50:18.welling up again. Glasses! Unbelievable. I think this is the

:50:19. > :50:21.first time in a very, very long time, if not ever, that we've got

:50:22. > :50:24.more than three medals in an Olympic Games. We've smashed that tonight by

:50:25. > :50:28.getting them four medals. And for them boys, I am so, so pleased with

:50:29. > :50:31.them. That was actually faster than what they did at the World

:50:32. > :50:36.Championships last year, even though they won. To go even quicker, and

:50:37. > :50:40.James Guy, you finally got that medal you deserve around your neck

:50:41. > :50:43.tonight. Rightly so. We've seen him gain confidence, get more relaxed.

:50:44. > :50:48.The problem is, the first day didn't go to plan. His 200 free didn't go

:50:49. > :50:51.to plan. He's slowly getting better. You could see the first few days, he

:50:52. > :50:56.thought he had the weight of the nation on his shoulders. He looked a

:50:57. > :50:59.bit tired. He got quicker. He found a star tonight. We found four stars.

:51:00. > :51:03.But really found a star. Duncan Scott, just really stepped up in

:51:04. > :51:08.world swimming. And that is a big name for the future. Daniel Wallace,

:51:09. > :51:13.big up to Daniel Wallace. He was not looking good, six, three months ago.

:51:14. > :51:18.He was not looking good. And he came and stepped up. And Stephen Milne, a

:51:19. > :51:25.hard task. He had a lot of big guns. He had to do a job and he hung in

:51:26. > :51:29.there. I spoke to James' dad and he said, "We just want him to enjoy the

:51:30. > :51:34.experience." Well, he's gonna now. He's still got 100m butterfly to

:51:35. > :51:38.come as well, and the relay in the 4 x 100, which could get a medal as

:51:39. > :51:41.well. It's gonna be a tough week for him. That will have put him on such

:51:42. > :51:45.a high. Amazing! They looked out of it. They came back into it. We said

:51:46. > :51:49.at the start of the evening this was gonna be a night of good racing. And

:51:50. > :51:54.we've certainly seen that. The Brits have done us proud. Hugely. Siobhan

:51:55. > :51:58.and them guys going silver, silver, back-to-back. What was different,

:51:59. > :52:03.when you're swimming next to someone else that's so far ahead, it gets

:52:04. > :52:06.wavy. We were in the worst position, being next to the States. They had

:52:07. > :52:11.to hang tough. It gets wavy in there. Let's remind ourselves. Let's

:52:12. > :52:14.relive that glorious moment, the last leg, with James Guy pushing for

:52:15. > :52:19.a medal, chasing down Michael Phelps. That was too far of a gap.

:52:20. > :52:24.And we smashed the Australians. It is. Look at these waves. You have to

:52:25. > :52:28.see heez swimming literally in Phelps' wash. It is that. James Guy

:52:29. > :52:33.never lost focus. He never panicked and went for it. He was cool, calm.

:52:34. > :52:36.He knew what he had to do. He was brilliant on that last leg. He

:52:37. > :52:42.should always go last leg. From now on, if there's a rule, he has to go

:52:43. > :52:45.last leg. There, he kind of knows Michael is gone and he's fighting

:52:46. > :52:51.for that silver medal. It was gonna get tight. The Japanese were ahead.

:52:52. > :52:58.The Australians were still in there, with Horton. He is quick. That was

:52:59. > :53:03.our first relay medal for 32 years. Last one, 1984, in Los Angeles,

:53:04. > :53:09.before you were born, probably. And you know what event it was in? 4 x

:53:10. > :53:19.200 freestyle. History and all that. Boom.

:53:20. > :53:25.Brilliant. Thank you. Thank you. A word on Robbie, he will get a medal

:53:26. > :53:30.as well. He deserves that metal just as much as the guys. Now is the

:53:31. > :53:34.medal ceremony for the women's 200m individual medley. Gold went to

:53:35. > :53:39.Katinka Hosszu. But silver went to the fabulous Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.

:53:40. > :53:43.Andrew, Adrian, you two will be giddy as kippers up there, because I

:53:44. > :53:49.know what you're -- as kittens up there, because I know what you're

:53:50. > :53:53.like. We are kiddie. Like kittens. We tried to sit down, it's not easy

:53:54. > :53:58.to do your commentary when you're stood up and punching the air. But

:53:59. > :54:18.it's been a night of great British success.

:54:19. > :54:24.So, Dirado wins bronze. What a meet she's had. Stanford University in

:54:25. > :54:30.the United States. And she's about to get a rather good new team-mate,

:54:31. > :54:33.who's gonna be a freshman, and she's gonna be called Katie. Katie

:54:34. > :54:58.Ledecky. What a team they're gonna have. Some great meets in my short

:54:59. > :55:03.time at Stanford. 3,000 people watching a college match. So, a

:55:04. > :55:08.wonderful moment for Great Britain. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor. She took on

:55:09. > :55:13.the very best in the world. She took on the world record holder. And she

:55:14. > :55:17.very nearly caught her. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor winning

:55:18. > :55:19.silver in the women's 200m individual medley. The first Olympic

:55:20. > :55:32.medal for Great Britain in this event in history. And well done...

:55:33. > :55:37.Michael Jamison got the silver in London. And again the same coach

:55:38. > :55:42.puts another swimmer on the podium at the Olympic Games. Well done.

:55:43. > :55:44.Siobhan-Marie, hopefully this has helped her confidence and

:55:45. > :55:47.self-esteem and belief she should be there. 20 years of age. Hosszu at

:55:48. > :55:49.27. This is Siobhan-Marie O'Connor's event, I believe.

:55:50. > :56:00.Let's watch the next four years. Well, Katinka Hosszu, what do you

:56:01. > :56:04.say about her? She's becoming invincible. She broke the world

:56:05. > :56:10.record to win the gold medal in the 400 medley. She won the 100m

:56:11. > :56:13.backstroke from nowhere. And now she adds 200 medley to the 400 medley,

:56:14. > :56:19.gold medal. Her third gold medal of this championship. A new Olympic

:56:20. > :56:25.record for her. Olympic gold women's 200 IM. Katinka

:56:26. > :56:30.Hosszu of Hungary. And the silver to Siobhan-Marie O'Connor of Great

:56:31. > :56:35.Britain. Brilliant silver for her. And Dirado, the bronze. Well, Hosszu

:56:36. > :56:41.has been unbeatable since London. Not put a foot wrong, particularly

:56:42. > :56:46.on this 200 IM. And this, as you rightly say, her third gold medal

:56:47. > :56:51.here at the Olympic Games. I can tell you that the time that

:56:52. > :57:01.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor did, 2.06.88 would have won the Olympics in 2012

:57:02. > :57:09.by nearly a second. The champion of the 200 medley, Katinka Hosszu of

:57:10. > :58:27.Hungary. HUNGARIAN ANTHEM PLAYS

:58:28. > :58:39.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE It's becoming very difficult to see

:58:40. > :58:46.past this young lady, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary. Gold on this women's

:58:47. > :58:48.200m individual medley. But if you look to our left-hand side,

:58:49. > :58:54.wonderful news for Team Great Britain. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor

:58:55. > :58:58.winning silver in this 200 medley. Hosszu, the gold. Siobhan-Marie

:58:59. > :59:02.O'Connor, a brilliant swim. A new British record. A massive British

:59:03. > :59:29.record to take the silver. Maria Dirado, the bronze.

:59:30. > :59:39.So, the swimmers taking their bow in front of the press, the world's

:59:40. > :59:46.media. The great, greatly medal for Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.

:59:47. > :59:51.A huge congratulations to Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, a silver

:59:52. > :59:57.medal in the 200m individual medley. And it was such a ripping race. She

:59:58. > :00:01.really put up a real fight, and she deserves every inch of that medal in

:00:02. > :00:07.and out of the pool. We've touched on it earlier, she's had a real

:00:08. > :00:10.battle with illness. She's talked publicly about dealing with an

:00:11. > :00:14.illness that a lot of people don't talk about. It can be really

:00:15. > :00:18.crippling. Amazing she's managed to train. She's been dealing with it

:00:19. > :00:23.the last couple of years. Bad backs as well. It's been tough for her.

:00:24. > :00:25.It's such a credit to her and her family, that she's so close to. You

:00:26. > :00:31.mentioned her family. There they are. Her mum draped in the Union

:00:32. > :00:34.flag. Her dad behind with a huge camera. I think she's probably

:00:35. > :00:39.saying, "I just want to go and see my daughter. I just want to go and

:00:40. > :00:44.give my little girl a massive, massive hug." Her brother was quite

:00:45. > :00:49.a good swimmer, but he didn't fancy the early mornings, so he gave up. I

:00:50. > :00:55.wonder if he's thinking now, "I wish I had stuck at it." What a moment.

:00:56. > :01:00.That is gonna stay with them. Look at her. The thing with Siobhan is

:01:01. > :01:07.the age difference. She's only 20 years old. Hosszu is 27. Siobhan has

:01:08. > :01:12.another Olympics in her. She has progressed year by year so much.

:01:13. > :01:16.Bronds last year at the Worlds. Getting that silver medal, I have no

:01:17. > :01:22.doubt we will see her in the golden spot in the next few years. How

:01:23. > :01:28.proud will she be? Amazing. And her dad's here, joining us. Well done.

:01:29. > :01:34.Dad! Amazing. I want to jump up here. How you doing? All done, mate.

:01:35. > :01:37.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor just doing her lap around there and enjoying

:01:38. > :01:46.herself. Jump in, John. Here? Snuggle in. There's no easy way to

:01:47. > :01:50.do this. Sorry. We kind of dragged you up from waving at Siobhan. How

:01:51. > :01:54.proud are you? Unbelievable, that was. Absolutely... I thought if she

:01:55. > :01:59.could stay fit and well and not get ill leading up to this, there was a

:02:00. > :02:03.chance she could - I was hoping she'd get a silver medal. I thought

:02:04. > :02:07.she was comfortably the second-best 200 medley swimmer. But she needed

:02:08. > :02:12.to stay fit and well to be able to demonstrate that. And luckily she

:02:13. > :02:16.did. So, didn't expect 2.06, though, that was a bonus. How difficult has

:02:17. > :02:19.it been for Siobhan out of the pool? We've touched on what she has been

:02:20. > :02:24.dealing with. It's not been easy, has it? No. It's difficult for me

:02:25. > :02:28.to...because there has been a lot going on this week, with other

:02:29. > :02:33.things, with people...trying to gain advantages. Siobhan is at a

:02:34. > :02:37.disadvantage. So, to do what she's done, bearing in mind - I don't want

:02:38. > :02:40.to sort of make hay that it's a big problem, but it's certainly not an

:02:41. > :02:45.advantage, what she has as a condition. So, she never moans, she

:02:46. > :02:49.just gets on with it. And, you know, luckily she's managed to have a good

:02:50. > :02:54.block of work, the best block of work she's had for probably since

:02:55. > :02:58.Commies. And you can see what she's capable of when it all comes

:02:59. > :03:02.together. And hopefully she will stay fit and well going forward. And

:03:03. > :03:06.I think she will get this off her back now in terms of being precious

:03:07. > :03:10.about the medley. I think Siobhan can do quite well in a few events if

:03:11. > :03:14.she can believe that - rather than focusing on the one, she can do a

:03:15. > :03:17.few. And she's only 20 years' old. She's got a long future, hasn't she?

:03:18. > :03:23.Hopefully. Fingers crossed. There's a lot of things that can happen,

:03:24. > :03:25.but, yep. Right, let's hear from your little girl. Because Siobhan is

:03:26. > :03:29.with Nick. A massive congratulations. Olympic

:03:30. > :03:34.medallist. That must sound and feel pretty crazy? Yeah, it feels pretty

:03:35. > :03:41.unreal. Yeah, I'm trying not to cry. But it's... Oh, the best feeling in

:03:42. > :03:44.the world. When I looked up and saw the time and the position, I was

:03:45. > :03:48.like, "What?!" Like, it didn't seem real. But, yeah, like, walking

:03:49. > :03:51.around there and seeing my family, I was, like, getting choked up. It

:03:52. > :03:56.means everything. You know, we've worked so hard for this and, you

:03:57. > :04:02.know, I've worked so hard for it, but it just means everything for me

:04:03. > :04:07.to swim well. And I'm so pleased. But, yeah, my family and my family

:04:08. > :04:12.at Bath, everyone who's helped me to get here, I'm so grateful. Because

:04:13. > :04:15.it's been tough. When you say it's been tough, we know you obviously

:04:16. > :04:21.have a medical condition that you have to overcome. You've certainly

:04:22. > :04:24.done that. And through the last few years, medalled after medals, and to

:04:25. > :04:29.perform on the big stage, incredible. I'm trying so hard. But

:04:30. > :04:35.sometimes you just think, "Is it my time? I've worked really hard and

:04:36. > :04:38.done all I can in training." But I was so nervous, I didn't know if

:04:39. > :04:41.that was gonna be there. It just shows what determination can do and

:04:42. > :04:46.just belief. I was absolutely over the moon. Lining, all the hard work

:04:47. > :04:50.has paid off. I wouldn't have been able to do it without my amazing

:04:51. > :04:53.team and family. It is an individual sport, but for the whole of the

:04:54. > :04:58.team, we have so many people behind us. And that just makes it so much

:04:59. > :05:01.more special, because, you know, although it's an individual sport,

:05:02. > :05:06.it's a team sport. And it's been great to be part of the team so far.

:05:07. > :05:12.I was so inspired before I raced, watching Adam. And the team is on a

:05:13. > :05:16.massive roll and I'm so proud to be a part of it. Your family are out

:05:17. > :05:21.here supporting you. Your dad is in the studio. Do you have a message

:05:22. > :05:23.for him? I'm gonna try not to get emotional. Their support means

:05:24. > :05:26.everything. Thank you so much. Massive congratulations again. Thank

:05:27. > :05:34.you. Cheers. Thank you. That's your baby girl.

:05:35. > :05:38.Yeah. I remember a few years ago, I came to see you, having taken

:05:39. > :05:42.Siobhan to training. How many mornings did you sit at that pool at

:05:43. > :05:49.the crack of dawn? Was it all worth it? I think so. I will take your

:05:50. > :05:53.headphones off. We only gave you them so you can hear Siobhan. I

:05:54. > :05:57.texted her when we got here and said, "I've always wanted to come to

:05:58. > :06:01.Rio. Thanks for giving me the opportunity." A fantastic place.

:06:02. > :06:05.Coming away with a medal. Can't get any better for me. I will be honest.

:06:06. > :06:09.She said it's a real family event. It's a real family sport, swimming.

:06:10. > :06:14.You're all involved. How is mum, because she's talked quite a lot

:06:15. > :06:18.about how nervous she gets? Mum is fine. I don't think she's seen the

:06:19. > :06:23.race. Hopefully she will watch it back. I've recorded it for when we

:06:24. > :06:28.get home. Liz won't watch it. She had her head in her handbag pretty

:06:29. > :06:31.much the whole race. She knows how she's done, because I jumped up.

:06:32. > :06:35.That was about it, really. LAUGHS

:06:36. > :06:39.And she saw her on the podium, so she knew she had done OK. What about

:06:40. > :06:43.her brother, because he was a swimmer at one point? He's a very

:06:44. > :06:48.good swimmer. He's here as well. He's probably her biggest fan.

:06:49. > :06:51.Hopefully we all are. Kieren was a good swimmer, he's a very talented

:06:52. > :06:55.sportsman. There they are. Mum and brother enjoying the moment.

:06:56. > :06:58.Couldn't drag them up here. And rightly so, they're savouring every

:06:59. > :07:02.second. They're more emotional than I am, I think, which is saying

:07:03. > :07:05.something. Is it too early to say how would you describe this day?

:07:06. > :07:09.Well, it's Siobhan's day, obviously. So, we're just part of her day.

:07:10. > :07:13.She's done all the hard work. We're just the support, you know, the same

:07:14. > :07:17.as the team around her. Siobhan has to do all the work. Siobhan has

:07:18. > :07:22.gotta take all the credit. It's good, obviously, being a parent, you

:07:23. > :07:26.know, as we all know, if your children do well, it makes you very,

:07:27. > :07:29.very proud. You're more proud of your children doing well than of

:07:30. > :07:32.your own achievements. So, hopefully it will get better. But if it

:07:33. > :07:36.doesn't, I'll take it. So, it's fine. Well, you can certainly be

:07:37. > :07:39.proud of her in and out of the pool. A remarkable young woman. Sean,

:07:40. > :07:46.thank you so much for coming to talk to us. Enjoy your day.

:07:47. > :07:50.Oh! We've dragged him up here and now he doesn't know where to go. I

:07:51. > :07:55.will let you get back to your family. Well done. I think it's fair

:07:56. > :07:59.to say we all got a bit emotional there, because what an amazing

:08:00. > :08:02.family unit, and what an amazing achievement. Oh, definitely. Just

:08:03. > :08:09.what a girl. She's just amazing. She's so, so lovely. And to be

:08:10. > :08:13.honest, all that hard work, she has just worked effortlessly, every

:08:14. > :08:16.single year she just pushes the boundaries. She's done so many

:08:17. > :08:19.different events, Siobhan, as well. That's what people probably don't

:08:20. > :08:22.know. She does the 100m breaststroke, butterfly, the 200

:08:23. > :08:27.free. And she's focused so much on this, I think her illness has made

:08:28. > :08:31.her focus a lot more, instead of doing what Hosszu has done, that's

:08:32. > :08:35.where her illness has restricted her, and having injuries and things.

:08:36. > :08:38.She's just said, "I'm gonna focus on this." She probably doesn't regret

:08:39. > :08:42.that decision at all, now she's got the silver medal around her neck.

:08:43. > :08:45.It's a gamble. If you're putting all your eggs in one basket, you've

:08:46. > :08:54.gotta back yourself. I mean, she is that good. In the 200 freestyle, she

:08:55. > :08:57.did a 1.55. Got a bronze. 100 fly, 55, 56, not far off getting a medal

:08:58. > :09:00.in that as well. Probably the difficulty has been

:09:01. > :09:03.because she has been ill, she hasn't been able to do the training and

:09:04. > :09:07.been able to do the racing. APPLAUSE

:09:08. > :09:13.That's what she had. And Michael Phelps... The crowd are going

:09:14. > :09:16.berserk for Michael Phelps, because he is going to be on that podium for

:09:17. > :09:21.the second time tonight, picking up a gold medal. It's been such a

:09:22. > :09:25.privilege to see these young, amazing athletes turn into adults J

:09:26. > :09:31.best place in the Olympics. The House of Fun. It's where it all

:09:32. > :09:35.happens. Don't you know it - I'm going nowhere. Right. Andrew,

:09:36. > :09:38.Adrian, what a brilliant night for the Brits. One silver medal in the

:09:39. > :09:44.bag. We're about to celebrate a second one.

:09:45. > :09:50.We certainly are. And what a night, and what an Olympic Games we're

:09:51. > :09:54.having. Really special. Karl Stoss, IOC member, will be presenting the

:09:55. > :10:02.prizes, the medals. Gold, silver and bronze.

:10:03. > :10:09.Michael Phelps still recovering. Oh, a little jig there. There we go.

:10:10. > :10:14.Swinging his arms. He was putting that on, wasn't he, when he came out

:10:15. > :10:18.looking exhausted? Team Japan, they can't believe it still. I think

:10:19. > :10:22.they're still trying to pinch themselves, because they stole from

:10:23. > :10:35.lane two fifth-fastest qualifiers, and Team Japan getting the bronze. A

:10:36. > :10:45.great, great swim from them. Ehara, the second leg. Kobori, and

:10:46. > :10:52.then Matsuda. Well, Hagino had a great lead-off. Very strong, indeed.

:10:53. > :10:56.And Matsuda just couldn't hold on a fast-finishing James Guy. He was

:10:57. > :11:07.very fast-finishing. 1.44.8, James Guy swam.

:11:08. > :11:18.So, it's bronze to Team Japan. But I can tell you, fabulous, fabulous

:11:19. > :11:21.result for Great Britain. They went in the fastest qualifier, a very

:11:22. > :11:25.difficult lane assignment, because they were right next to the

:11:26. > :11:28.Americans. We knew they'd go off quickly. Conor Dwyer,

:11:29. > :11:35.extraordinarily quick too in the freestyle. Split 1.45.2. And Townley

:11:36. > :11:38.Haas, 1.44.1 in the second leg, the fastest split of all.

:11:39. > :11:45.That was quite difficult to get beyond that, I think. So, the

:11:46. > :11:47.Japanese have now received their cake decorations and lifting them in

:11:48. > :11:51.the air. LAUGHS

:11:52. > :11:58.And their bronze medals. And the camera will flick over to the

:11:59. > :12:02.British team. So, here we go. Great Britain's best result for 108 years.

:12:03. > :12:08.A silver medal in the men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay. We've got gold in

:12:09. > :12:23.1908. We've had four bronzes ever since. In 1912, 1920 and then '76

:12:24. > :12:27.and '84. And now Stephen Milne, from Inverness, Duncan Scott, he's in the

:12:28. > :12:30.final of the 100 free tomorrow. What a great meet he's having. New

:12:31. > :12:40.British record for him. From Sterling University. Daniel Wallace.

:12:41. > :12:50.And then James Guy. Well, the anchor leg, 1.44.85. Very, very strong,

:12:51. > :12:53.indeed. We should also say Robbie Renwick swam the heats, and he got

:12:54. > :12:58.them through to this position, so he will get a medal as well. This is a

:12:59. > :13:01.very young team. You look at some of the faces, but also think about the

:13:02. > :13:04.American team. With Lochte and Phelps not likely to be around, and

:13:05. > :13:08.world champions last year, Olympic silver medallists this year, there's

:13:09. > :13:12.a lot of mileage in these guys. It's a very strong event for Great

:13:13. > :13:17.Britain right now. And this is truly the icing on the cake.

:13:18. > :13:28.Great Britain win the silver in the men's 4 x 200 free relay.

:13:29. > :13:36.And on the right-hand side, Michael Phelps leads the USA to gold for the

:13:37. > :13:41.men's 4 x 200 free relay. Michael Phelps tea 25th Olympic medal. 21

:13:42. > :13:46.golds. And an excellent lead-off. They really led from the start.

:13:47. > :13:52.Conor Dwyer, a really quick time. 1.45.2. And then Townley has the

:13:53. > :13:59.fastest split in the second leg. Interesting order they put them in.

:14:00. > :14:05.Ryan Lochte, 1.46. And then Michael Phelps, well, his time, 1.45.2 from

:14:06. > :14:11.Michael Phelps, I can tell you that Duncan Scott from Great Britain went

:14:12. > :14:16.1.45.0, and James Guy, 1.44.08. So, he's good, but not that great, hey?

:14:17. > :14:20.He's tired, I think. That 200 free took everything out of him at the

:14:21. > :14:24.very end. Having swum the 200 fliel previously. I think the emotional --

:14:25. > :14:27.fly previously. I think the emotional draining getting ready for

:14:28. > :14:32.the fly would have taken something out of him, Michael. But he come ut,

:14:33. > :14:36.having done the relay, got the gold medal. A little bit weary walking

:14:37. > :14:40.out. But he soon perked up as he got to the top of the medal podium. Got

:14:41. > :14:44.the medal around his neck. Where he should be. The greatest of all time,

:14:45. > :14:48.Michael Phelps. 25 Olympic medals. There's his wife and little baby

:14:49. > :14:56.boy. Quite special. Phelps on the right.

:14:57. > :15:03.Then Ryan Lochte. Then Townley Haas and Conor Dwyer. The champions of

:15:04. > :16:08.the men's 4 x 200 free relay. ANTHEM PLAYS

:16:09. > :16:17.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE The victory ceremony for the men's 4

:16:18. > :16:21.x 200m freestyle relay. Team USA winning the gold. And that's Michael

:16:22. > :16:26.Phelps' 25th Olympic medal, 21 of them gold. Two silvers, two bronzes.

:16:27. > :16:27.And the super news for Great Britain - a silver medal, a wonderful silver

:16:28. > :16:35.medal. Bronze to Japan.

:16:36. > :16:47.What amazing scenes. Another silver medal for Britain's swimmers. This

:16:48. > :16:52.is an unbelievable Olympics. For Team GB, isn't it? I think this is

:16:53. > :16:55.the best we've ever done. I could be wrong, way back in the day, but for

:16:56. > :16:58.a very, very long time, getting four medals in the swimming pool. And

:16:59. > :17:02.we've still got big races to come as well. Absolutely fantastic for the

:17:03. > :17:05.guys. And I'm so chuffed, especially for James Guy, because we have seen

:17:06. > :17:08.him so much this week, and getting that fourth position in the 200. So,

:17:09. > :17:13.I think for him, this one is extra special. James Guy has spoken so

:17:14. > :17:19.much about idolising Michael Phelps. Who doesn't? That's right. They all

:17:20. > :17:24.do. Who wouldn't want to be him?! Who wouldn't want to be up there on

:17:25. > :17:33.that podium? It's such an unbelievable night. We can't stop

:17:34. > :17:37.saying 'unbelievable'. Duncan Scott, James Guy, Daniel Wallace. We got

:17:38. > :17:42.five medals in 1984. We can better that this Olympics. In 1984, Russia

:17:43. > :17:46.weren't there because they boycotted. I'm not saying - it was

:17:47. > :17:51.technically an easier Games. It's not the time to talk about Russia.

:17:52. > :17:56.Just saying. At the same time, we've got the boys' 4 x 100m medley. We

:17:57. > :18:01.can smash that. And we keep talking about success breeding success. This

:18:02. > :18:05.is surely gonna have a great impact on the rest of the team. What you

:18:06. > :18:09.get with relays is, because you've got four boys in the relays, four

:18:10. > :18:13.guys in any relay, it shows strength and depth in your country. And I

:18:14. > :18:17.think we have improved so much. He's got a big jacket on there, hasn't

:18:18. > :18:22.he? We are looking at some real stars of the future there. Duncan

:18:23. > :18:26.Scott, Daniel Wallace. That was impressive, after some people

:18:27. > :18:30.questioned, to come out there and do that, it was impressive. It shows

:18:31. > :18:35.character. When you're called upon, you can step up and curve balls get

:18:36. > :18:38.thrown with you in life, like Siobhan with the problems she's got,

:18:39. > :18:42.and how you deal with it and bounce back. Dan a couple of months ago was

:18:43. > :18:47.not looking good. He put his head down. They picked him as the seventh

:18:48. > :18:53.pick. You're saying he was a wild card? People were raising eyebrows.

:18:54. > :18:58.Without him, we wouldn't have won that medal. He shut us all up.

:18:59. > :19:03.Rightly so, he has been training in milfield with James Guy. And what a

:19:04. > :19:06.great decision to go and train in such an amazing programme. He was

:19:07. > :19:10.worrying us all. I'm not gonna lie. He didn't swim well at the trials or

:19:11. > :19:13.the Europeans. So, I'm so pleased for Dan that he's back on form. That

:19:14. > :19:18.was the frustrating thing. He's so capable. And it's amazing to see him

:19:19. > :19:23.back on form. He is swimming the 200 individual medley. He knows he's on

:19:24. > :19:28.form. So, hopefully now he can convert that to his individual swim.

:19:29. > :19:31.James Guy moved down to Millfield. Moved his whole family in the end

:19:32. > :19:34.from the north to the south to support his swimming career. I can

:19:35. > :19:38.see the boys looking around for various family members who are

:19:39. > :19:41.dotted all over the Aquatic Centre. Do you think Michael Phelps has

:19:42. > :19:45.broken a few teeth biting those medals? Because the press love a

:19:46. > :19:49.picture, biting the medal. He probably could get gold-capped ones.

:19:50. > :19:53.I think we need to set ourselves up as family liaison. Parents, come

:19:54. > :19:56.here and reconnect with your children after their swim. Because

:19:57. > :20:00.we don't mind that at all. When you get an Olympic medal, and I don't

:20:01. > :20:04.have one, when you pass them around at home, they get very, very messy,

:20:05. > :20:09.don't they? Because everyone wants to touch the Olympic medal. Rightly

:20:10. > :20:13.so. I'm not saying that. I'm not saying rightly so. I'm just saying

:20:14. > :20:17.in a couple of years' time, they're gonna be dirty in a wonderful way,

:20:18. > :20:23.because everyone loves that Olympic moment. You've gotta credit the boys

:20:24. > :20:27.for getting a silver. Duncan Scott, he's only a teenager. He's got such

:20:28. > :20:32.a bright future. Stephen Milne still has his best event coming up,s

:20:33. > :20:37.1,500m. And again such a fantastic future ahead of him. Then you've got

:20:38. > :20:40.Dan Wallace, back on form and still relatively young in male swimming,

:20:41. > :20:43.so again has got a bright future. These four guys. We saw Robbie this

:20:44. > :20:46.morning do the heats and unfortunately it was a shame that

:20:47. > :20:49.Robbie didn't put in his best performance. He is one of the older

:20:50. > :20:53.ones on the team and he still would have helped these guys no end. He

:20:54. > :20:57.still will get a medal. Because he was part of the team. The future is

:20:58. > :21:00.bright. The future is Team GB. All of these boys are young. They're

:21:01. > :21:03.gonna be around for a long time. Remember their names, because this

:21:04. > :21:09.isn't kind of their last Olympics at all. How exciting is it to see

:21:10. > :21:14.Britain up there on that podium twice with a swimming superpower

:21:15. > :21:18.like America You don't normally see it. You normally wait until the end

:21:19. > :21:21.of a meet, or we've had four so far and we're halfway through the meet

:21:22. > :21:28.and still have a few races to come. Boomer! Gosh, didn't like that. "I

:21:29. > :21:34.want to go to bed!" Most children get building blocks to play with.

:21:35. > :21:38.Boomer is gonna get gold medals. 21 gold medals, do you know what, I'm

:21:39. > :21:42.over it now, Dad. Come and play with me. You can't get to this level in

:21:43. > :21:46.swimming without a support network. If you're 15 years old, you can't

:21:47. > :21:50.drive yourself to the pool, you need your family. And we saw how much

:21:51. > :21:54.this meant to Sean, Siobhan-Marie O'Connor's dad. I met them just in

:21:55. > :21:57.2011, I think it was. And he was working in shifts and sitting in the

:21:58. > :22:02.pool at 5:00 in the morning, doing his work. It really is a family

:22:03. > :22:05.sport. It definitely is. And for Michael Phelps, obviously with a

:22:06. > :22:09.3-month-old baby, I don't think he's been doing the night feeds, just

:22:10. > :22:14.throwing that out there! I think he has been getting his rest. But it's

:22:15. > :22:18.just - it is that. And it is such a family. And these boys, it's so

:22:19. > :22:22.nice. Obviously Dan Wallace and James Guy was on that podium last

:22:23. > :22:25.year at the World Championships, getting that gold medal. It's nice

:22:26. > :22:31.to have two of the guys step in and kind of embrace that. That's what I

:22:32. > :22:34.mean from Robbie Renwick, even though he wasn't swimming tonight,

:22:35. > :22:37.he would have helped that team a lot, with takeovers, motivating the

:22:38. > :22:40.guys, bringing them together, making them feel welcome on to the team.

:22:41. > :22:45.That's what you need some of the older ones to do.

:22:46. > :22:50.We are willing the boys to make their way around the pool, because

:22:51. > :22:54.we're hoping that Duncan, Steven, James and Dan are gonna talk to

:22:55. > :22:56.Nick, so we had hear from them and just really find out what has been

:22:57. > :22:59.going through their heads. Coming into this, they meant business,

:23:00. > :23:02.didn't they? But I wonder if they really thought, we're gonna take on

:23:03. > :23:05.Australia, we're gonna take on America? Of course they would.

:23:06. > :23:10.Absolutely. They know. And we all know on paper who does what and who

:23:11. > :23:13.can do what. They've stepped up. Know they've got a really, really

:23:14. > :23:17.strong relay. Australia have been dominant in the past, with Thorpe,

:23:18. > :23:23.Hackett, Michael Klim. Big names. They still have big names now. To

:23:24. > :23:26.take them down. USA have a strong, strong team. But those boys

:23:27. > :23:29.incredibly tight. I love the way they're taking so long to get around

:23:30. > :23:33.the poolside, to make the most of that moment. It is a moment. Milk

:23:34. > :23:37.every second. We certainly are. We will hang on as long as we can. It's

:23:38. > :23:41.one of those things you say, "If I ever win an Olympic medal, I would

:23:42. > :23:47.run around the pool naked three times." You say you'd do crazy

:23:48. > :23:50.stuff. Then the moment comes and you're like, "Oh, my gosh. I'm so

:23:51. > :23:54.shocked, I don't know what to do!" That was the face earlier in the

:23:55. > :23:58.week. Did you really think you would run around the pool naked? No! Is it

:23:59. > :24:01.different in the relays. Obviously when you go out for your individual

:24:02. > :24:05.event, you go out, stand on the block and you go. But when it comes

:24:06. > :24:09.to a relay, you're hanging around for a bit longer, especially with

:24:10. > :24:13.the 200, going, "He's good. Ryan Lochte is good. Michael Phelps is

:24:14. > :24:16.Michael Phelps." No, you get yourself in a place, you're in the

:24:17. > :24:20.displon and you're with your team unit. And the -- zone and you're

:24:21. > :24:24.with your team unit. And the one thing you have got is you don't want

:24:25. > :24:27.to let anyone else down. You want to fight for your others. As much as

:24:28. > :24:30.you fight for yourself, you really want to fight for others. Some of

:24:31. > :24:34.the best races are relays. Everyone loves relays. Everyone wants to be

:24:35. > :24:37.part of a relay. It just means so much. It is one of those things. To

:24:38. > :24:40.let a team-mate down is the worst feeling in the world. If you do it

:24:41. > :24:43.in your individual, well, then that's only your loss and only

:24:44. > :24:46.you're disappointed. But to let your best friends down, that's just the

:24:47. > :24:50.worse. So, everyone steps up and delivers when it comes to a relay.

:24:51. > :24:54.At the World Championships last year, when we got one relay medal,

:24:55. > :24:58.we kind of got a bit excited and thought, "Hang on, we might be quite

:24:59. > :25:02.good at relays." Does this bode well for the rest of the week? Yeah. We

:25:03. > :25:08.wrote down predictions of where we might be and what we could possibly

:25:09. > :25:14.get. They're getting there! They're closing in. Sharon Davis is gonna be

:25:15. > :25:18.gutted she's missed out on tonight. Get well soon. Right, let's hear

:25:19. > :25:24.from the boys, because they are approaching now. Duncan Scott,

:25:25. > :25:30.Stephen Milne, James Guy, Dan Wallace. Huge, huge congratulations.

:25:31. > :25:33.You led them out, you came home as an Olympic medallist? Oh, I can't

:25:34. > :25:37.believe it. I don't know what to say. I'm speechless. But I have to

:25:38. > :25:40.give it to these guys. These guys were absolutely amazing. And it was

:25:41. > :25:44.a real honour to be swimming with them. And they smashed it up. So,

:25:45. > :25:47.yeah, we can all be proud of ourselves, I think. Certainly

:25:48. > :25:51.pulling a shift tonight. Duncan, 12 months ago you were winning junior

:25:52. > :25:54.medals. Could you imagine a year on you would be up there on the Olympic

:25:55. > :25:58.podium? I was disappointed with how I swam at Worlds last year. I felt I

:25:59. > :26:06.had to step things up this year. So far I have done. But to come home

:26:07. > :26:08.with an Olympic medal is unreal. World champions last year, so we

:26:09. > :26:11.thought we had one in us. Didn't know which colour. We fought with

:26:12. > :26:16.everything we had. Delighted with silver. Looking forward to the

:26:17. > :26:19.freestyle final tomorrow. Dan Wallace, the selectors took a chance

:26:20. > :26:24.on giving you a wild card. Ud certainly paid them back? Yeah, I

:26:25. > :26:29.was lucky to make the team here. I knew I had to step it up and be back

:26:30. > :26:32.to my best. I think I did that tonight. And I'm really proud of

:26:33. > :26:36.myself, yeah. Absolutely should be. And over to James Guy, obviously

:26:37. > :26:39.finished things off. And finally got that medal this week. Because it's

:26:40. > :26:43.been an emotional one for you? Hallelujah! I think the first few

:26:44. > :26:45.days were a bit tough for me. I was Hallelujah! I think the first few

:26:46. > :26:49.days were a bit tough for me. I was going through an adaptation phase. I

:26:50. > :26:53.got faster and faster each time I have been racing. Now to get a medal

:26:54. > :26:57.finally, I mean, it's been a tough week. Hey, we got a medal now. I

:26:58. > :27:02.mean, the team here is just a great team. Our youngest guy is 23 and

:27:03. > :27:05.we've got medals. So, big on Tokyo, we'll be fully grown men, ready for

:27:06. > :27:11.that title. Chasing down Phelps on the last length, do you think you

:27:12. > :27:15.could get him? Yeah, I don't care who I'm racing. I will fight for

:27:16. > :27:18.anyone, fight for my country. I could feel his wave getting closer.

:27:19. > :27:23.But obviously they were two seconds in front. It's hard to chase down.

:27:24. > :27:25.But what an honour to race the greatest of all time. I couldn't

:27:26. > :27:30.have been happier. Massive congratulations. Thank you. James

:27:31. > :27:33.Guy already looks like a different person compared to earlier in the

:27:34. > :27:37.week. How excited are you for the rest of his events? Excited. 100

:27:38. > :27:41.butterfly, to be fair, to be honest, it's not his event. But he's gonna

:27:42. > :27:45.do it in the relay at the end of the week. Getting the rhythm and getting

:27:46. > :27:49.in the water will be key. Two silver medals in the pool tonight. A

:27:50. > :27:53.successful night? Definitely. To say you're second in the world is pretty

:27:54. > :27:57.special. And especially for Siobhan, she just stepped up and did an

:27:58. > :28:01.amazing PB. And same for those boys. Even though, yes, it wasn't the gold

:28:02. > :28:04.medal, they still swam faster than they did last year at the World

:28:05. > :28:08.Championships. We've got five very, very proud British people tonight. I

:28:09. > :28:12.think we've got more than five very, very proud people. The nation,

:28:13. > :28:17.hopefully. Even at 4:00 in the morning! Well, we nicknamed this

:28:18. > :28:23.plails the House of Fun. Long may the fun continue. Jason 6789 great

:28:24. > :28:26.work to the team. And fantastic performances from Siobhan-Marie

:28:27. > :28:33.O'Connor and the relay boys. Many congratulations. Football: Brazil

:28:34. > :28:35.held to a goalless draw against South Africa. The women have

:28:36. > :28:43.qualified for their quarterfinals. These are tonight's headlines.

:28:44. > :28:46.Michael Phelps showed why he's the greatest Olympian of all time,

:28:47. > :28:51.reclaiming the 200m butterfly title that he lost in London in style in a

:28:52. > :28:56.thrilling final. As we have been hearing, Britain's

:28:57. > :29:00.Siobhan-Marie O'Connor earned a superb silver in the 200m individual

:29:01. > :29:07.medley. Hungary's Katinka Hosszu won the race, collecting her third gold

:29:08. > :29:13.of the Games. Brilliant swim from Britain's men in

:29:14. > :29:18.the 4 x 200m relay, seeing them take silver. Team GB's medal tally to

:29:19. > :29:22.six. USA won the race, meaning an amazing 21st gold for Michael

:29:23. > :29:26.Phelps. Meanwhile, another big shock in the

:29:27. > :29:29.tennis. World number one Serena Williams beaten in straight sets by

:29:30. > :29:32.Ukraine's Elina Svitolina. Serena won singles and doubles in

:29:33. > :29:40.London four years ago. Her Rio Games over.

:29:41. > :29:46.GB could not end an 88-year wait for an Olympic medal in the women's team

:29:47. > :29:50.gymnastics, finishing fifth. Gold as expected to the USA. That's the

:29:51. > :29:57.first of what Simone hopes will be five golds of the Games.

:29:58. > :30:00.So, 15 gold medals, one on Day 4. USA back on top of the medal table.

:30:01. > :30:06.Another phenomenal night in the pool. One for Katie Ledecky, two for

:30:07. > :30:11.Michael Phelps. Second in the relay. That's 21 golds, by the way. He

:30:12. > :30:15.needs to step up his game, that boy, Phelps! And two silver medals for

:30:16. > :30:16.Team GB. Superb swims frr Siobhan-Marie O'Connor and the boys

:30:17. > :30:20.in the relay. A few things to look Siobhan-Marie O'Connor and the boys

:30:21. > :30:35.in the relay. A few things to look out for on Day 5.

:30:36. > :30:43.GB won both their rugby sevens matches so far.

:30:44. > :30:50.We saw Andrew Willis win the semifinal earlier.

:30:51. > :30:54.So, that was Day 4 of Rio 2016. What a night in the pool. Many

:30:55. > :30:58.congratulations to Team GB, winning two silver medals. But the night

:30:59. > :31:08.belongs to Michael Phelps. 21 gold medals. The greatest of all time.

:31:09. > :31:13.From all of us here, bye for now. Michael Phelps, the greatest of all

:31:14. > :31:14.time. The final of the men's 200m

:31:15. > :31:29.butterfly. MUSIC PLAYS

:31:30. > :31:33.Phelps is going for it. Le Clos right back on. Phelps is gonna take

:31:34. > :31:39.it. Oh, my goodness. This is so close. Footsteps Phelps has won. And

:31:40. > :31:42.he's won four medals in a row, the first swimmer to do it in history.

:31:43. > :31:47.It's silver to Great Britain. It's silver to Siobhan-Marie O'Connor.

:31:48. > :31:52.The great Michael Phelps cruising to another gold medal. Silver to Great

:31:53. > :31:54.Britain! He's the greatest of all time, and he is unbeatable.
