:00:54. > :01:08.Timing is everything. Every hand placed impeckably, every position

:01:09. > :01:13.held. The epitome of control. Every burst, every explosion of energy

:01:14. > :01:18.choreographed to the beat. Without timing there is no control, no

:01:19. > :01:27.grace, no finesse. Timing is everything.

:01:28. > :01:30.Timing is indeed everything. Let's get ready to tumble and fly with

:01:31. > :01:35.gymnastics tonight. Hello and good evening, we are live here in Rio. It

:01:36. > :01:40.is the evening of day four of the Games of the 31st Olympiad. Great

:01:41. > :01:43.Britain have four medals so far. None yet today. That could change

:01:44. > :01:47.this evening. For the next two hours we're focussing on the women's team

:01:48. > :01:52.competition in the Olympic arena. Gymnastics is one of the great

:01:53. > :02:01.Olympic sports. It has so many big stars. You think of Olga Corbett and

:02:02. > :02:06.the men yesterday just missing out, finishing fourth. For the women, if

:02:07. > :02:12.they were to win a medal, it would be the first for female gymnastics

:02:13. > :02:16.as a team since 1928. It could be an historic night. The USA very much

:02:17. > :02:19.lead the way thanks to Simone Biles. But they are hot favourites for

:02:20. > :02:23.gold. The other medals are very much up for grabs. It's going to be very,

:02:24. > :02:44.very exciting. Here's what we've got coming up:

:02:45. > :02:54.That diving is live on BBC Four right now if you want to watching

:02:55. > :02:59.it. Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson are in with a chance. You can access up

:03:00. > :03:04.to 24 live streams online and on the BBC Sport app. Lots of ways to keep

:03:05. > :03:08.across the BBC, the 5 Live coverage is fantastic as well. Every medal is

:03:09. > :03:11.covered. Don't forget the catch up programme from tomorrow morning as

:03:12. > :03:15.we try to bring you all the events that will have happened through the

:03:16. > :03:19.night. That's on BBC Two and it shows you all the the medals and

:03:20. > :03:22.everything you might have missed. The women's team competition is

:03:23. > :03:36.about to start. Before we do, let's meet the British team.

:03:37. > :03:49.# I'm going to swing from the chandelier

:03:50. > :03:53.# From the chandelier # I'm going to live like tomorrow

:03:54. > :04:03.doesn't exist # Like it doesn't exist... #

:04:04. > :04:08.I started when I was four. I'd probably say I fell in love with it

:04:09. > :04:12.at about 10 or 12. I didn't love it at first. I had my moments when I

:04:13. > :04:15.was like, six, seven, eight, I was just like no, I don't think I want

:04:16. > :04:20.to do it. You just kind of continue to do. It then you just grow to love

:04:21. > :04:24.it. Now I couldn't imagine my life without it. It's so exciting and for

:04:25. > :04:30.me personally, it's been a long road to get here. Four years ago, I

:04:31. > :04:35.wasn't sure if I even wanted to carry on with gymnastics. After a

:04:36. > :04:40.break I decided I wanted to go again and this time to enjoy it a lot

:04:41. > :04:43.more. This has been my favourite cycle It's incredible. I've dreamt

:04:44. > :04:51.about this moment since I was little. I was six when I started

:04:52. > :05:00.gym. I never knew how hard it would be. But I'm really, really excited.

:05:01. > :05:04.We need to keep doing what we're doing, work hard and gym's ups and

:05:05. > :05:07.downs, hopefully it will go well together in the end. It will be a

:05:08. > :05:12.hard fight for a medal. But that's what we're hoping for. We're working

:05:13. > :05:16.super hard in the gym doing everything we can to get the extra

:05:17. > :05:20.tenths and fitness to make everything look that bit easier,

:05:21. > :05:23.cleaner. As the years have gone on the team's got stronger and

:05:24. > :05:26.stronger. That's one of the most exciting parts. It's not just the

:05:27. > :05:30.individual honours, that's nice as well, but to know that the team's

:05:31. > :05:34.got an opportunity and the worlds last year we had an opportunity and

:05:35. > :05:36.it came our way. Everybody's really striving for that team medal and to

:05:37. > :05:42.be part this afternoon is really special.

:05:43. > :05:47.-- to be part of that is really special.

:05:48. > :05:54.This is their moment, the British team of Becky and Ellie Downie,

:05:55. > :06:01.Claudia Fragapane, Ruby Harrold and Amy Tinkler. They are determined to

:06:02. > :06:09.enjoy the whole experience. Ellie had a nasty fall in qualification.

:06:10. > :06:12.Her sister Becky there. They're young, keen, enthusiastic and all

:06:13. > :06:15.inspired by Beth Tweddle and the wonders that she has produced

:06:16. > :06:19.already in Olympics and World Championships gone by. Claudia

:06:20. > :06:24.Fragapane there has been involved since she was just 14 years old. The

:06:25. > :06:31.American team, Simone Biles going for five gold medals. No gymnast has

:06:32. > :06:36.ever won five at one Olympics. Gaby Douglas as well. They are

:06:37. > :06:40.superstars. Along with Michael Phelps, Simone Biles is probably the

:06:41. > :06:43.most famous name competing here. If the British team can produce clean

:06:44. > :06:50.routines they could be on for a medal. Let's join Christine Still,

:06:51. > :06:54.bronze medallist Beth Tweddle and former British junior gymnastics

:06:55. > :07:00.champion Matt Baker. Thanks Claire. Lauren Hernandez with

:07:01. > :07:04.the first vault for Team USA. What a start for them. We are expecting

:07:05. > :07:09.them to be well ahead of the rest of the world. That is a perfect example

:07:10. > :07:21.of why. A good start. A good start, not perfect, though, Matt. If you

:07:22. > :07:24.look here. It's a good, high flighted double twisting vault. But

:07:25. > :07:28.she's right on the edge of the line for landing. If she landed with her

:07:29. > :07:36.feet outside the second line, she'll get a deduction. Oh, she just creeps

:07:37. > :07:43.in and steps over. Should just be OK.

:07:44. > :07:53.There Nice and tight this vault is marked out of 5. 8. So the maximum

:07:54. > :07:58.she can score for this is 15. 8. Wasn't much else wrong with it. It

:07:59. > :08:03.was good and tight. They'll be hoping to start with a 15. Just to

:08:04. > :08:08.give you an idea of how this team final works. Each country has a team

:08:09. > :08:13.of five gymnasts. They select three to go on each piece of apparatus.

:08:14. > :08:18.Every single score counts that. Is why this is such a tough and brutal

:08:19. > :08:22.format. We saw yesterday that, you know, every fall and every big

:08:23. > :08:28.dismount goes towards that team total in the finish. A score of 15.

:08:29. > :08:32.1 for Lauren Hernandez. This was quite high considering. Beth? Yeah,

:08:33. > :08:36.I mean, obviously, it was slightly off direction. There was a slight

:08:37. > :08:40.leg separation at the end. Maybe the judges couldn't quite see that.

:08:41. > :08:53.We're going to see the next vaulter from the USA. This is Alexandra

:08:54. > :08:57.Raisman. Just a slight bring the legs together at the end. But a

:08:58. > :09:01.fantastic second vault. They will be pleased with that score. This is

:09:02. > :09:05.where you will see the Americans leaping ahead. They were ten marks

:09:06. > :09:12.clear, Chris, in qualification. They are. The only team really that has

:09:13. > :09:18.two vaults of this difficulty and quality. It's where they are way

:09:19. > :09:22.above the rest of the world. You can see two-and-a-half twists, tiny bit

:09:23. > :09:27.off direction. If they think this is perfect, the judges, they'll take

:09:28. > :09:32.nothing off for execution. She could score 16. This is the thing, because

:09:33. > :09:36.this landing, I mean, it's almost blind. She can spot it a bit there.

:09:37. > :09:42.A tough one to actually nail. It is very difficult. The blind landings

:09:43. > :09:46.are not what you want. Just to give you an idea of how these scores

:09:47. > :09:51.work. These days gymnasts can get extra marks for doing harder vaults

:09:52. > :09:55.or harder routines. Keep your eye on that difficulty score. Basically, in

:09:56. > :10:02.effect, it's the execution added to the difficulty. Talking of

:10:03. > :10:06.execution, this is the point where you could see the first perfect ten

:10:07. > :10:10.in this new scoring system. It's going to be done by this girl, we

:10:11. > :10:12.believe, potentially at these Olympics. Maybe not here, but maybe

:10:13. > :10:22.in the team final. A big, huge run into the round-off

:10:23. > :10:26.flick entry, two-and-a-half, slip hop at the end. But you can't take

:10:27. > :10:31.away. There is literally nothing else to deduct on that vault except

:10:32. > :10:35.that tiny hop at the end. She scored a 16 in qualification for that. We

:10:36. > :10:43.will not get a chance to see that in slow motion. Instead we go to Daria

:10:44. > :10:48.Spiridonova from Russia. Who is one of the gymnasts that share the gold

:10:49. > :10:51.at the World Championships. There was a four-way split. This is a

:10:52. > :10:55.strong piece of apparatus for her to start with. A clean start, straight

:10:56. > :10:58.back down to the low bar, legs are locked together throughout the

:10:59. > :11:04.routine. Straight back up to the top bar with the half turn. Short on the

:11:05. > :11:14.hand stand. The half turn, into the front somersault. Nice, clean catch.

:11:15. > :11:17.Full turn. Into the dismount. A very, very short routine, but

:11:18. > :11:22.because she's linking every element, that's where she builds up her

:11:23. > :11:32.difficulty. That follows the first Russian gymnast, Melnikova, who

:11:33. > :11:37.scored 15. 133. This apparatus, the bars, are where Russia really reign.

:11:38. > :11:40.They qualified top on bars. You see the beautiful, straight line,

:11:41. > :11:48.fingers to toes, perfectly pointed toes. Because she makes each move so

:11:49. > :11:55.well, she can link it straight into the next element. Super high front

:11:56. > :12:00.somersault. Just a tiny bit of a deduction for bent arms on the

:12:01. > :12:13.catch. A tiny deduction for bent legs past the low bar. A bit of a

:12:14. > :12:17.step. But very clean. She doesn't look too pleased with that routine.

:12:18. > :12:22.It wasn't necessarily as good as the qualification one. We will see what

:12:23. > :12:30.the difficulty value was and how they're coming out with it. Now,

:12:31. > :12:38.first time she hasn't scored 16 for a long time. Feeling the pressure,

:12:39. > :12:42.perhaps a bit, guys? Well, they're desperate to try and, well, Simone

:12:43. > :12:48.wants that fifth Gold Medal. She's got the potential. She's in the

:12:49. > :12:55.finals. America on 46. 866. It's a huge, huge score. Spiridonova just

:12:56. > :12:59.waiting for her score. She will be followed by the current Olympic

:13:00. > :13:05.champion, Mustafina. Who has been up and down with injury over the last

:13:06. > :13:09.Olympic cycle. But she's back. She's being pushed by the younger gymnasts

:13:10. > :13:13.coming through. The youngsters have been adding a lot of fizz to the

:13:14. > :13:16.Russian team. Yeah, we've seen the Russian team didn't look too strong

:13:17. > :13:20.at the Europeans. When we watched them in training here, they've

:13:21. > :13:24.really upped their game. Mustafina has had a tough couple of years.

:13:25. > :13:28.Maybe a bit of injury. But she's back in that qualification routine

:13:29. > :13:31.we saw, back to what she was like when she won the Olympic tight until

:13:32. > :13:36.2012. One of the reasons is potentially the gymnast on the right

:13:37. > :13:43.side there, Tutkhalian, who is a sprightly little thing to say the

:13:44. > :13:47.least. That's a good half a mark down on her qualification score. She

:13:48. > :13:51.knew it wasn't her best. Russia going round with Great Britain. It's

:13:52. > :13:54.a half time, if you like, within each of the rotations here. Great

:13:55. > :13:58.Britain will get a three-minute warm up after the next Russian gymnast,

:13:59. > :14:01.who is the current Olympic champion, Mustafina.

:14:02. > :14:05.Just waiting for everything to be sorted. Mustafina is saluting to the

:14:06. > :14:09.judges. We are not in control of the pictures. That's why we're just

:14:10. > :14:16.watching the gymnasts and not looking at Mustafina's routine.

:14:17. > :14:26.We're going to go across to floor. This is China. Japan I should say.

:14:27. > :14:42.Miyakawa. So far they are on 28.566 for their

:14:43. > :14:47.gymnasts. 16 years old. She was just outside the medals at the World

:14:48. > :14:52.Championships on floor. This gymnasts, one of the team from Japan

:14:53. > :15:04.that are promising much these days. And she is a very special humbler.

:15:05. > :15:10.-- special tumbler. Gymnasts work to music, have two includes dance and

:15:11. > :15:14.tumbles. Look at that, a double street somersault with full twist,

:15:15. > :15:20.but just unable to control the landing. Stepped out of the floor.

:15:21. > :15:25.One deduction for each foot out. This is a really impressive tumble.

:15:26. > :15:41.A straight front somersault. That was a super landing. Gymnasts have

:15:42. > :15:45.two express the floor routines. They have to include difficult leaps and

:15:46. > :15:58.spins. Just a lack of control from that falls in. -- that full spin.

:15:59. > :16:07.Another difficult tumble, this time in the tucked position. Twisting

:16:08. > :16:12.back. That was good. Gymnasts are allowed up to four tumbles. They can

:16:13. > :16:20.choose how many they have. A super double straight, but undercooked it

:16:21. > :16:24.a little bit. A very ambitious floor routine full of excitement, but I

:16:25. > :16:36.have to say a few deductions as well. Well, the Japanese qualified

:16:37. > :16:40.in seventh place. From our position, we think Mustafina had a storming

:16:41. > :16:44.routine. We will try to bring you that if we can. We can see that

:16:45. > :16:53.first tumble as she stepped out, just a .1. Bring out. But this one,

:16:54. > :17:03.lovely. She bounded out of the floor. Just a 0.1 for stepping out.

:17:04. > :17:11.Huge difficulty here. This is the fourth tumble. You can see her chest

:17:12. > :17:19.was well down. A big step forward. A 0.5 deduction, maybe slightly more.

:17:20. > :17:25.I can tell you that Ali Mustafina's score is in and it's a 15.933 which

:17:26. > :17:31.is exactly the same as what Simone Biles scored on vault. That is some

:17:32. > :17:37.feat really, because we think of bile is almost superhuman on vault.

:17:38. > :17:41.So for Mustafina to be able to match, that is pretty impressive.

:17:42. > :17:48.And there is the total for Russia on bars.

:17:49. > :17:59.Japan, one of the teams that could be in the mix in the top five. But

:18:00. > :18:02.of course all three scores have two can't. If there's one routine like

:18:03. > :18:13.that with a few deductions it's going to harm the team total. It is

:18:14. > :18:17.such a brutal format, this. For Great Britain, it's not a bad order.

:18:18. > :18:22.To come out on bars and then moved to the beam. And then for as much as

:18:23. > :18:28.you can to enjoy vault and floor. Do you think it will suit this rotation

:18:29. > :18:31.format? The good thing is Britain started on bars in the

:18:32. > :18:35.qualification. All of their training leading up to the Olympic Games,

:18:36. > :18:40.they were starting on bars. They will not have to change that train

:18:41. > :18:46.of thought. They can also come in. They were able to get used to be

:18:47. > :18:52.light and the atmosphere, take it all in and then concentrate, get in

:18:53. > :18:55.the zone ready to get up on bars and focus on their job in hand.

:18:56. > :19:00.Obviously, get all of the nerves out of the way and then head over to

:19:01. > :19:03.beam where we had a couple of problems in qualification. Then

:19:04. > :19:09.hopefully go and enjoy floor and vault. And we understand that

:19:10. > :19:12.Claudia is going to go all out in difficulty on the beam. This is a

:19:13. > :19:18.tough task. They know that an opportunity. There's only one

:19:19. > :19:23.gymnast with a higher start go on being banned Claudia and that is

:19:24. > :19:28.Simone Biles. That's how difficult the beam routine is but she is

:19:29. > :19:32.attempting. Didn't quite manage to pull it off and qualification but

:19:33. > :19:38.she will be going for it this time round. Really the tactics of the

:19:39. > :19:45.team and the coaches has to be to go for broke. For the girls to win that

:19:46. > :19:49.medal we have to go for the difficult routine. We have not heard

:19:50. > :19:53.about Ruby's routine. We would expect her to go for the more

:19:54. > :19:57.difficult routine but she didn't use and qualification. But who knows? If

:19:58. > :20:01.that the team decision, we've obviously not seen what their

:20:02. > :20:07.training has been like. Even though Rebecca and Claudia have had

:20:08. > :20:10.mistakes and qualification, their team coaches will have seen them

:20:11. > :20:15.training and no that they can perform those routines. They have

:20:16. > :20:20.made that decision to put them back up for the team final. A real shame

:20:21. > :20:26.that Becky Downie did make the bars final. We couldn't see, but we were

:20:27. > :20:30.all quite surprised at how low the score was. As far as the release and

:20:31. > :20:34.captures are concerned, she stayed on, she got through the routine and

:20:35. > :20:38.you will see for yourself how hairy some of these routines are.

:20:39. > :20:44.Hopefully she will feel confident to build on that now. I think she knows

:20:45. > :20:49.that individual chance has gone. Her one shot at the Olympic medal is now

:20:50. > :20:56.18 one. She will have re-grounded herself and spoken to the coaches.

:20:57. > :21:02.-- is a team one. And early as well, her sister, she had a shaky

:21:03. > :21:12.qualification. I think we are just warming up. Yes, I think we are. She

:21:13. > :21:18.did, Ellie took a nasty tumble. She had already jarred her back a little

:21:19. > :21:22.bit in the training. The floor is very hard apparently, absolutely

:21:23. > :21:25.everyone has said. She was already a little bit tender. But you took

:21:26. > :21:29.medical advice, they said she was fine and she stormed back. She will

:21:30. > :21:38.be wanting to really show everybody what she can do. China going round

:21:39. > :21:42.with the USA. This is Mao Yi. She is working the floor and vault today.

:21:43. > :21:50.Just 16 years old, but still full of power. Entry with the double twist.

:21:51. > :21:55.Chest slightly down on the landing but a great start to the Chinese

:21:56. > :22:01.medal potential. It's fair to say that the USA have almost been given

:22:02. > :22:06.the gold medal from the media here. In the fight really is for silver

:22:07. > :22:11.and bronze. It is. A lot of the other teams have all got very

:22:12. > :22:16.similar work. Really, other than on vault, the Americans have got so

:22:17. > :22:21.much more. Simone Biles is a very special gymnast. Leading the team,

:22:22. > :22:25.she gives them more consistency making it different to the others.

:22:26. > :22:30.That was a nice vault. China worked in the first round in qualification.

:22:31. > :22:35.Looking back, the scores were quite harsh on that first round. I would

:22:36. > :22:41.expect to see China fighting back hard. Just bear in mind that score

:22:42. > :22:44.of 46.166 that Russia have posted in this fight for silver and bronze.

:22:45. > :22:49.Even on the first piece of apparatus, we are talking about it.

:22:50. > :22:57.It's China, Russia and Great Britain all within a shout. Just a reminder

:22:58. > :23:07.that all three scores count the matter whether you're on vault,

:23:08. > :23:12.floor, bars or beam. Tan Jiaxin for China. She is doing vault and bars

:23:13. > :23:20.today. A world silver medallist -- China world silver medallists as a

:23:21. > :23:23.team. Entry using the same vault with the double twist. Chest

:23:24. > :23:35.slightly higher on the landing but did have that hop back. China versus

:23:36. > :23:39.Russia as we speak. China are hugely improved on vault. They are slight

:23:40. > :23:45.gymnast in the making. They struggled on vault in the past but

:23:46. > :23:50.are looking much more confident and competent. Nicely extended body

:23:51. > :24:02.position. As Beth said, a big hop back. But good direction keeping

:24:03. > :24:06.inside those two lines. Ideally be gymnast wants to be plonked down the

:24:07. > :24:14.middle. But as long as they did go outside the sidelines there is no

:24:15. > :24:20.specific deduction. Wraps the arms in, steadied the landing. Just to

:24:21. > :24:28.bring you up to date with what's been going on elsewhere in the

:24:29. > :24:31.arena, 14.7664 China's second vault. Brazil have had a big deduction and

:24:32. > :24:39.they have also had a fall over on beam. A six difficulty posted for

:24:40. > :24:49.Wang Yan, the last of the Chinese vaulters. The second-highest

:24:50. > :24:56.qualifiers for this team final. Focusing in and ready. She's going

:24:57. > :25:01.to use a different entry with a double twist. A very small gymnast,

:25:02. > :25:11.but lots and lots of power. Just that step on the landing. Just

:25:12. > :25:14.managed to pull it around in time. Celine van Gernder for the

:25:15. > :25:20.Netherlands now. Really a chance to talk about all the different style

:25:21. > :25:24.of gymnasts. The Netherlands are going for a completely different

:25:25. > :25:29.style. In fact, having them and the Americans on the floor at the same

:25:30. > :25:34.time is fantastic because they show something quite different. Nice

:25:35. > :25:36.tumbling, one and a half into front. But it's the dance work that is

:25:37. > :26:09.really what they are renowned for. Good leaps. Every gymnast trust to

:26:10. > :26:16.include tumbles, leaps and spins. But it's that choice. -- every

:26:17. > :26:21.gymnast must include. They have to do at least read leaps or spins back

:26:22. > :26:30.count towards their aid elements. -- at least eight.

:26:31. > :26:54.This gymnast chose just two tumbles, so not so many opportunities for the

:26:55. > :27:02.judges to deduct for landing. More difficult to build a real high

:27:03. > :27:13.starting score. China's score is now for 4.3 32. -- 44 .332. That puts

:27:14. > :27:17.them in third position behind Russia and the USA, but still a lot of

:27:18. > :27:19.gymnastics to go. We are only halfway around the first rotation. A

:27:20. > :27:36.chance to see Great Britain on bars. Becky Downie, current European

:27:37. > :27:44.champion. Great Britain are on a score of 29.466 with two gymnasts. A

:27:45. > :27:53.big routine coming up. Come on, Becky! A clean start. The forward

:27:54. > :27:57.toe on enough to get that special requirement in. Straight up to the

:27:58. > :28:01.top bar. Into the big release and catch, that's where she had been

:28:02. > :28:07.trouble in the qualification by catching her heels. Full turn into

:28:08. > :28:13.the giant. Her own release and catch that's been named after her. And

:28:14. > :28:18.then this big huge release right at the end of the routine. Lots of

:28:19. > :28:25.energy needed for it. Just going, just needs the final wind up for the

:28:26. > :28:28.dismount. Nailed the landing. Fantastic routine, Becky. That was a

:28:29. > :28:32.great way for the British team to finish and I think we will catch up

:28:33. > :28:39.with some of the British team after her routine. Becky is through, we

:28:40. > :28:44.will catch up with Ruby Harrold's routine so far. But read-through, so

:28:45. > :28:50.far, so good. You could see the pressure on her face before she

:28:51. > :28:54.started. Here she really swings bars with great virtuosity. She generates

:28:55. > :28:58.speed. You can see the lift of her body right above the bar so that she

:28:59. > :29:04.can this hugely difficult height release. She clipped her feet in

:29:05. > :29:08.qualification but not there, she was clean.

:29:09. > :29:19.She was able to link that one straight into the somersault down to

:29:20. > :29:22.the low bar. It's these big mar lirchinged together that -- moves

:29:23. > :29:27.linked together that make this routine special. She can do a

:29:28. > :29:34.routine worth 6. 9. This might be a 6. 8. It will be a good routine.

:29:35. > :29:37.Unbelievable composure knowing that every single routine, every score

:29:38. > :29:41.counts towards that team total. They don't want to give anything away.

:29:42. > :29:50.They're going round with Russia. So they're going to get a really good

:29:51. > :29:58.idea of how things look. Thorsdottir competing at the moment on floor.

:29:59. > :30:03.China 44. 332 sees them in third at the moment. We're waiting for Becky

:30:04. > :30:09.Downie's score to come in. Everyone feeling a little more

:30:10. > :30:12.settled. As settled as you can knowing you're moving on to beam!

:30:13. > :30:18.Yeah, that was a key routine for Becky. Obviously, she'd had the

:30:19. > :30:21.problems in qualification so she needed to have a good start. Now

:30:22. > :30:26.she's had that, she's settled herself down. She's there with her

:30:27. > :30:30.sister. I'm not sure what they're discussing, but they can head over

:30:31. > :30:32.to beam knowing that they've got those first three routines cleanly

:30:33. > :30:37.through. It's everything that they hoped for

:30:38. > :30:43.at this stage. Maybe down on Russia just a little bit. They are, yes,

:30:44. > :30:50.44. 866. Great Britain in third at the moment. We'll take that score.

:30:51. > :31:01.This is Ruby Harrold's routine. Beth, talk us through this.

:31:02. > :31:08.Here the clean start, upstart hand stand. Straight back down with the

:31:09. > :31:15.full twisting move. Colin stepping in for safety with this unique

:31:16. > :31:19.combination. Down to the low bar, jam packed routine throughout. Then

:31:20. > :31:26.the half turn into the front somersault. Nice, clean catch. The

:31:27. > :31:31.hop into the reverse grip. The double front with just one step on

:31:32. > :31:36.landing. See the delight on the team's face.

:31:37. > :31:41.A very, very important routine for Russia. This happened moments ago to

:31:42. > :31:47.leap them ahead of Great Britain. This is what happened. Beth over to

:31:48. > :31:50.you again. A real competitor of yours in the

:31:51. > :31:57.past. She was. She won the Olympic title when I was third. I didn't

:31:58. > :32:01.want to say that! Thanks. Straight back into the low bar. Up to the

:32:02. > :32:08.high bar, four elements connected together. That's how she builds her

:32:09. > :32:11.difficulty right up. The half turn into the Yager somersault. No need

:32:12. > :32:18.for the coach to be there. She was cleanly on the bar. Half turn, back

:32:19. > :32:27.to the dismount she used in London 2012 and a very, very good landing.

:32:28. > :32:33.A chance then to see Ellie Downie. Gymnast that was second up for Great

:32:34. > :32:37.Britain following Ruby Harrold. Working every piece today. She is,

:32:38. > :32:43.very good all rounder. There's the forward grip element. We need to get

:32:44. > :32:49.this special requirement into the big move. That's where she faultered

:32:50. > :32:53.in the team final in the 2015 worlds. Straight down to the low

:32:54. > :32:59.bar. Managing to keep the routine going the whole way through. Just

:33:00. > :33:08.missed her feet coming in there for that. Finishing off this routine

:33:09. > :33:11.with a big wind of giant into the double straight and a small hop

:33:12. > :33:15.forward. She's the ultimate competitor and she has been super,

:33:16. > :33:20.Chris, as far as the British team are concerned. She has always been

:33:21. > :33:25.from very young, a really confident competitor. Don't want to say too

:33:26. > :33:28.much, because they move to beam next and probably for Ellie, beam's been

:33:29. > :33:37.the piece she's had to work the hardest on. But that was a lovely

:33:38. > :33:41.piked Jaeger. Bars is something, strangely enough her two best pieces

:33:42. > :33:45.are opposite to her sister. She's fought hard to make the bars as

:33:46. > :33:48.strong as that. Gymnasts moving to the second rotation. Here's how

:33:49. > :34:14.things look after the first: Having a look back here at Flavia

:34:15. > :34:19.Saraiva from Brazil. Lots of confidence. Lovely style as well.

:34:20. > :34:23.She's a classical gymnast. When she works, the toes are beautifully

:34:24. > :34:27.pointed. Of course, those are all the things that the judges look for.

:34:28. > :34:35.They want to see toes completely pointed, legs straight. The top

:34:36. > :34:48.three qualifying for beam. Nice and supple. Confident with the head

:34:49. > :34:52.release. Now she linked the two jumps without the feet moving, but

:34:53. > :35:01.whether the judges would think there was a pause is another matter.

:35:02. > :35:05.Confident in those two, though. Two free walkovers and a side

:35:06. > :35:11.somersault, tiny loss of balance. Straight up, here we go, double

:35:12. > :35:15.pike. There were a couple of steps, but a great, sparky performance.

:35:16. > :35:20.That's the definition of a crowd placer. This place just erupts.

:35:21. > :35:24.Wonderful to have Brazil in the team final. They're seventh at the

:35:25. > :35:36.moment. Japan are in sixth. Germany fifth.

:35:37. > :35:42.The United States goes for their third ever Olympic team Gold Medal,

:35:43. > :35:46.and their second consectively. Great Britain now on beam. They will start

:35:47. > :35:49.longside Russia. They'll have to wait there for a moment on beam.

:35:50. > :35:54.You've got the Netherlands and Japan on vault. China and the USA move to

:35:55. > :36:01.bars and Germany and Brazil are going to be on floor.

:36:02. > :36:05.Ellie Downie with the job of starting the beam competition for

:36:06. > :36:10.Great Britain. Just a reminder, all three scores

:36:11. > :36:13.will count for the team total. They're going to be packing in the

:36:14. > :36:20.difficulty. They'll do everything they can to get a team medal here at

:36:21. > :36:25.the Olympic Games final. Now, this piece of apparatus just

:36:26. > :36:33.takes hours of work. You have to do the routines over and over and over.

:36:34. > :36:43.Then keep calm on the day. Come on Becky, nice, big front somersault. A

:36:44. > :36:46.very difficult skill, though. She's completely blind going in, half turn

:36:47. > :36:52.- oh, and it was blind and it was off. You could see the hips were the

:36:53. > :36:58.wrong side. You have to go for the difficulty. There's no marks for

:36:59. > :37:03.playing safe in this game. But this score has to count. So she needs to

:37:04. > :37:10.recover herself and still give a good performance. Another difficult

:37:11. > :37:18.element coming up here. Double spin. She holds on well. She hasn't yet

:37:19. > :37:22.done an acrobatic series, which is one of the requirements. Here it

:37:23. > :37:37.comes. Back flip, layout somersault. Hold firm, Ellie. Into the free cart

:37:38. > :37:42.wheel. Bonus marks 0. 1 for joining the jump and free cart wheel. Now

:37:43. > :37:48.she's got a big dismount to consider. A roundoff, lifts high,

:37:49. > :37:51.two-and-a-half twists, great landing. Well that was a super

:37:52. > :37:55.routine. What a shame about that fall. What a comeback. The thing is

:37:56. > :37:59.you've got to put things like that behind you. There was the potential

:38:00. > :38:03.to give away even more with that routine, Beth, but she stuck those

:38:04. > :38:08.moves, carried on and every country has to do beam. We know and we can

:38:09. > :38:12.see here her hips were off to the side of the beam. With beam there is

:38:13. > :38:16.no room for error. She did well to get back up, control herself, calm

:38:17. > :38:20.her nerves and finish it off for the team. They know how important it is

:38:21. > :38:25.for every single tenth. The fall has happened. There's nothing you can do

:38:26. > :38:28.about that except get back up and finish the routine to the best of

:38:29. > :38:36.your ability, which she did for the team. China have also had a fall.

:38:37. > :38:40.It's just happened. Fall for fall as far as Great Britain are concerned

:38:41. > :38:48.with China. Over to vault and the Netherlands.

:38:49. > :38:59.Just slightly landing backwards. She had to take the step backwards.

:39:00. > :39:03.Vaults are given tariffs. And the straight somersault, the full twist

:39:04. > :39:09.is a five. If you do one-and-a-half twists it goes up to 5. 3. If you do

:39:10. > :39:14.two twists, it's 5. 8. That's how it's all building. There we go. It's

:39:15. > :39:20.quite a difficult vault. She had underrotated. She had to step back

:39:21. > :39:25.to save it. That's where the judges will deduct. Just doing the one

:39:26. > :39:36.piece of apparatus today. Vera Van Pol. Nice lift, good shape. In fact,

:39:37. > :39:44.she did very well just to step back. It would have been easy as anything

:39:45. > :39:49.to sit down at that point. Dutch gymnasts doing fantastically well

:39:50. > :39:54.here. Didn't qualify for last Olympics. So to be in team final is

:39:55. > :40:15.amazing. This is their first team final for 30 years. Quite something.

:40:16. > :40:25.They're on 28. 033. In the words of the great Mitch Fenner, next

:40:26. > :40:30.apparatus please. The Americans there. You get a team

:40:31. > :40:34.of five. Each country selects three gymnasts for each piece of

:40:35. > :40:39.apparatus. I know we keep saying it, every score counts, but... It does.

:40:40. > :40:42.It's interesting the format, to be honest with you. I think London was

:40:43. > :40:45.the first time where they did that three to count as far as the

:40:46. > :40:49.Olympics is concerned. It doesn't half make a difference. It makes a

:40:50. > :40:52.huge difference. As a gymnast, normally you know you've got to go

:40:53. > :40:56.clean. If you've got the safety blanket of knowing it's four up,

:40:57. > :41:00.three to count, it is slightly less pressure. But here, the stakes are

:41:01. > :41:04.huge enough as it is. You're going for an Olympic medal. To suddenly

:41:05. > :41:11.know if you make that mistake, it can mean the difference between an

:41:12. > :41:17.Olympic medal and not. Yilin Fan, I said about a four-way split for gold

:41:18. > :41:22.at the worlds. China need their world champion right now having

:41:23. > :41:30.encountered a fall already on this apparatus. The clean full turn,

:41:31. > :41:36.straight up to the high bar. She's building the difficulty by linking

:41:37. > :41:43.so many elements together. Just caught that. Into the full turn.

:41:44. > :41:49.Into another full turn. Into a half turn. And winding up for the

:41:50. > :41:54.dismount. Using the double straight and a small pace backwards. She

:41:55. > :42:00.certainly played the margins there. She did several catches right on her

:42:01. > :42:06.fingertips. Tiny gymnast. She had to work hard to get that routine right

:42:07. > :42:11.through. The Chinese are nouned for using all -- are renowned for using

:42:12. > :42:16.all the turning elements. Since London they've been changing their

:42:17. > :42:24.style and starting to use other moves. That was quite bent armed.

:42:25. > :42:28.That's a bit of a deduction. 0. 0. 3 perhaps for catching close. These

:42:29. > :42:35.are the turns. You have to try and finish in hand stand, which she did

:42:36. > :42:38.beautifully. The double straight dismount, lovely shape. Just

:42:39. > :42:43.controlled the landing, a little pace.

:42:44. > :42:48.A little bit of an edgy routine, I felt. If you've seen your team-mate

:42:49. > :42:52.fall, it's pretty much bound to be. There were moments where I thought

:42:53. > :42:56.she was going to fly off. She did well to keep the whole routine

:42:57. > :43:26.going. China were in fourth going into this rotation.

:43:27. > :43:38.Very nice double straight somersault.

:43:39. > :43:58.Double twisting front somersault, good variety there.

:43:59. > :44:11.Super twiple spin. -- triple spin. Quite a few marks given for musical

:44:12. > :44:50.interpretation. And plenty given for landing dead like that.

:44:51. > :45:00.Nicely done. Big tumbles, big variety and smooth, expressive

:45:01. > :45:04.dance. She didn't have a huge start value or difficulty value in

:45:05. > :45:13.qualification, just a 5.7 where you will get the big sixes and people

:45:14. > :45:23.doing the big tumbles. But that was a really enjoyable routine. A chance

:45:24. > :45:33.to see Claudia Fragapane. Come on, Claudia. Claudia's got a very

:45:34. > :45:39.difficult beam routine. She came to grief on one of the elements in the

:45:40. > :45:46.qualification. Watch here carefully. There is the Arabian, very nicely

:45:47. > :45:49.done. The half-tone into the front somersault. Two good leaps. She did

:45:50. > :45:57.well there because her foot was across the beam. Now the acrobatic

:45:58. > :46:02.series. Lots of concentration needed. Flip, straight somersault

:46:03. > :46:08.with full twist. A bit of a fight, but she stayed on. The free

:46:09. > :46:15.cartwheel. She is certainly showing grit and determination here. She is

:46:16. > :46:22.a very determined gymnast, Claudia. Nice spin. Good rhythm, good

:46:23. > :46:29.movement. Now another super difficult move, standing full twist.

:46:30. > :46:36.Very nicely done into the jump. She has absolutely packed this routine

:46:37. > :46:40.full. They turning jump as well. Everything in. Actually, she has

:46:41. > :46:49.settled nicely. A big dismount needed. It has to be clean. One

:46:50. > :46:55.Flip, two flips, up, double pike. Wow, super landing! But showed every

:46:56. > :47:00.part of British grit. Her feet were just on the edge, but there was no

:47:01. > :47:05.way she was coming off. Free cartwheel, standing full twist. This

:47:06. > :47:10.whole routine is jam-packed. You can see from overhead the flick into the

:47:11. > :47:19.full twist. And the big, huge dismount. Flick to want, click to

:47:20. > :47:25.two, double pike. It has been a conversation for a lot of people who

:47:26. > :47:31.know about gymnastics, 14.433. How tough do you go? As far as Claudia's

:47:32. > :47:36.beam routine is, she went all out. As did Becky Downie, this happens

:47:37. > :47:42.just moments ago. She can be absolutely beautiful, but she can

:47:43. > :47:51.also be inconsistent. Today her team need consistency. The first move was

:47:52. > :47:55.well controlled, a lovely front somersault, a lovely high one. This

:47:56. > :48:01.is the unusual acrobatic series. A free cartwheel into a layout

:48:02. > :48:08.somersault. Very nicely performed. A lovely rhythm. A change like leap,

:48:09. > :48:14.change like half. Those are the two difficult leaps. -- change leg leap,

:48:15. > :48:21.change leg half. Leaps like that gets in bonuses. Then, has to

:48:22. > :48:32.control but does so well. Now the free walkover into the jump. -- the

:48:33. > :48:35.split jump. Very nice, supple and elegant as a gymnast. Side.

:48:36. > :48:42.Somersault She fought well there. Now there is one big element to go

:48:43. > :48:51.as well as the dismount. Change leg to the ring position. That was well

:48:52. > :48:57.performed. She needs a good strong dismount to give her a good score.

:48:58. > :49:02.Oh, a bit of a bound forward but she kept her hands off the floor. That

:49:03. > :49:07.will do, that will do. Goodness me, another routine packed with

:49:08. > :49:13.difficulty. For Becky, this is huge. She didn't get selected for London

:49:14. > :49:19.2012. She did compete in Beijing. This is a real chance for her,

:49:20. > :49:22.probably her last chance, to get an Olympic medal. Definitely her last

:49:23. > :49:26.chance. She had that front somersault, that was a skill that

:49:27. > :49:31.have problems in qualification. It is the first element so you want to

:49:32. > :49:35.get that over with. The rest of the routine, there is the two jumps but

:49:36. > :49:40.you need. Christine was saying how elegant she is and she shows that

:49:41. > :49:45.off throughout her whole routine. The fight in this dismount shows how

:49:46. > :49:51.much this team means to her. She was not going to put her hands down. You

:49:52. > :49:54.can see her team-mates really appreciating the effort. You can see

:49:55. > :49:59.the physio to the right, she helps keep the gymnasts performing day in

:50:00. > :50:03.day out and with all of their recovery. We know there will be

:50:04. > :50:07.tough competition between Great Britain, China and Russia. Russia

:50:08. > :50:13.still to go. We know that China have already counted one fall. Great

:50:14. > :50:22.Britain won fall, China 141. Like you say, everybody has to come to

:50:23. > :50:26.beam. -- China one fall. Four years ago, we were the bottom team in team

:50:27. > :50:32.final on beam. We absolutely know we have got to put that behind us.

:50:33. > :50:37.There's your husband. What are you reading into his body language? I

:50:38. > :50:44.don't think she's really happy with that performance at the moment. He's

:50:45. > :50:47.Mr supercool. They look like they're just checking Becky's difficulty

:50:48. > :50:50.values. They've got them all written down so that if there is any

:50:51. > :50:56.discrepancy when her scores, they can check straightaway and put a

:50:57. > :51:01.protest in. The judges are taking their time. Becky looks a little bit

:51:02. > :51:12.anxious. She does. She knows maybe there's a couple of things that she

:51:13. > :51:18.wouldn't maybe have given 100%. 5.9 difficulty, 14.166. Do you think

:51:19. > :51:24.that slow? No, I think that's what I expected. I think that would be what

:51:25. > :51:29.I'm expecting. She did look a little bit unhappy with it. Two pieces

:51:30. > :51:35.down. We talked about the rotation order. It's going well for Great

:51:36. > :51:43.Britain, vault and floor for them to come. Japan in sixth position at the

:51:44. > :51:51.moment. You can see at the top of the screen there, the 5.8

:51:52. > :51:55.difficulty. A very powerful vault with her small step. I will tell you

:51:56. > :52:04.that Russia have just had a full already. -- a fall. The fight for

:52:05. > :52:12.silver and bronze, all of those countries have one fall each.

:52:13. > :52:17.Melnikova is up currently for the Russians, and she fell in

:52:18. > :52:22.qualification as well. A very nice gymnast, a little bit different. No

:52:23. > :52:29.perky ponytail. She has a different style of her own but she is a

:52:30. > :52:34.fabulous tumbler and a solid Volta. We have seen a 15 from the American

:52:35. > :52:39.team for that vault. That looked a good vault to me as well. We will

:52:40. > :52:43.have to see what it comes in as. This gymnast will be busy, working

:52:44. > :52:53.three of the four pieces of apparatus. Many gymnasts are already

:52:54. > :53:03.half round. Japan, 14.833 four Miyakawa. -- for Murakami. The

:53:04. > :53:13.difficulty of 6.2, in effect this whole vault is marked out of 16.2.

:53:14. > :53:19.Asuak Teramoto, also in the all-round final. Using the

:53:20. > :53:23.handspring entry. Just a slight stumble at the end, almost tripping

:53:24. > :53:28.over her own feet trying to present. I'm always impressed with this

:53:29. > :53:33.vault. She is such a tiny gymnast. The platform is quite big. She gets

:53:34. > :53:38.her hands into the front. She has to go up and along to clear it. You can

:53:39. > :53:46.see as she hops forward she is almost on top of the vault. But it's

:53:47. > :53:53.a highly credited vault. Marked out of 6.2, so 16.2. Really, other than

:53:54. > :54:00.the hops around landing and perhaps a little bit of deduction for lack

:54:01. > :54:07.of length it is very well formed. The men's team got back to God

:54:08. > :54:13.yesterday in the team final. Gabrielle Douglas for team USA will

:54:14. > :54:23.be next to go on bars. She follows Simone Biles. This is routine number

:54:24. > :54:29.two for the USA. Jumps to the high bar into the full turn. Big catch,

:54:30. > :54:41.straight into the pack on the low bar. Then steep with the half term.

:54:42. > :54:46.-- half term. Building the difficulty each time she is using

:54:47. > :54:53.these elements. Here is the wind-up to the dismount. The double

:54:54. > :54:57.straight. And the stock landing at every gymnast dreams of. She didn't

:54:58. > :55:02.get the chance to make the all-round final and retain the all-round title

:55:03. > :55:08.that she won in London 2012. But I can tell you that Simone Biles, the

:55:09. > :55:14.first gymnast up for the US, scored 14.8. Rebeca Andrade for Brazil. The

:55:15. > :55:22.roof is going to come off here. Samba time! It looks like she's not

:55:23. > :55:26.happy with the start of her music. Maybe they have played the wrong

:55:27. > :55:35.music? Maybe they didn't show the start. She wisely steps off the

:55:36. > :55:38.floor. That can be so nerve wracking as a gymnast. You've got yourself

:55:39. > :55:44.all hyped up and then the wrong music comes on. Then you are like,

:55:45. > :55:49.what do I do? Do I come off, get back on? I did see the floor judges

:55:50. > :55:56.almost say to her, step back, let the music people sort out the music.

:55:57. > :56:00.She can be present and come back on. OK, DJ, will ready. Good luck! I

:56:01. > :56:17.don't think she heard the start. Rebeca Andrade, the highest

:56:18. > :56:30.qualifier for Brazil. Full twisting double back. Doesn't need a long

:56:31. > :56:44.run. Superpowerful gymnast. Lovely twisting into the front somersault.

:56:45. > :56:53.This is what you call selling a routine. But she dropped the leg

:56:54. > :57:10.down early at one and a half spins. She won't get the double.

:57:11. > :57:35.Very cleverly using a style of her own. A super double tuck.

:57:36. > :57:42.Needs to finish with a difficult tumble. The double pike, and that is

:57:43. > :57:47.very much the problem with having given such a full on performance in

:57:48. > :57:53.the dance. You don't just leave yourself enough energy for that

:57:54. > :57:58.final tumble. Well, it was wonderful and vastly entertaining to watch.

:57:59. > :58:03.Great to dance to, we had a little boogie! Brazil in seventh going into

:58:04. > :58:19.this rotation. Simone Biles is the first up on bars. Gabby Douglas, her

:58:20. > :58:25.score is just in. This is Seda Tutkhalyan Anbar for Russia.

:58:26. > :58:31.Tutkhalyan was very much their best beam worker in qualification. Nice

:58:32. > :58:33.round off already. This is the big skill. The full twist, well

:58:34. > :58:57.negotiated. Steadily done. Shap, Leap with the head taken back.

:58:58. > :59:11.I'd be surprised if the judges fully credit that. It was a bit edgy.

:59:12. > :59:19.Big wait here ready for a big dismount. Double pike. Nice and

:59:20. > :59:24.firm. In qualification she did a full twisting double back there. She

:59:25. > :59:35.cut back a bit for safety. Russia on a score of 27. 991. We'll bring you

:59:36. > :59:41.Mustafina's beam routine shortly. You can see the round-off straight

:59:42. > :59:46.back. She does sometimes use the full twist. There's the change leg

:59:47. > :59:50.into the change leg half. Splits not quite and there you can see the

:59:51. > :59:59.round-off full twist. Covered that wobble well. Then using the double

:00:00. > :00:04.pike, having had that fall on the first routine, they've played safe

:00:05. > :00:07.and gone for the double pike. You can see her quickly getting

:00:08. > :00:19.strapped up. They're the last team up. Disappointing 12. 966. USA just

:00:20. > :00:26.getting ready for beam, going through the motions, getting warmed

:00:27. > :00:32.up. It's time to have another little samba.

:00:33. > :00:35.She's wonderful. She is and this routine has been specially composed

:00:36. > :00:43.for her just for this Olympic Games. Expect something special. Hopefully

:00:44. > :00:45.the DJ gets the music right because apparently a pop star has recorded

:00:46. > :01:13.this just for her. Enjoy. She might be very sparkly and

:01:14. > :01:18.twirling hands but also very classy. Lovely height on the tumble. Super

:01:19. > :01:31.extension through the legs an the feet.

:01:32. > :02:19.Well, the crowd love it. She kept enough energy for the finish. What a

:02:20. > :02:25.super little gymnast. Just a joy to watch for all of the world, but

:02:26. > :02:29.certainly for everybody here, 12,000 people packed into the Olympic Arena

:02:30. > :02:32.here just loving this team final. What a joy it is to have the home

:02:33. > :02:36.team in it. It was the same yesterday with the men. Goodness me

:02:37. > :02:42.they put on a great performance. Just wonderful. Full of energy, full

:02:43. > :02:47.of joy. And just enjoying. She's only 16 years of age. To come out

:02:48. > :02:52.into this team final and just handle that pressure, going up last on

:02:53. > :02:58.beam. Going up last on floor and producing huge tumbles. You can see

:02:59. > :03:05.just here, the full in back out, just a tiny hop back. Very minimal.

:03:06. > :03:08.Then the last, even though she'd put all that energy into the artistry,

:03:09. > :03:13.she had enough energy to do that big double tuck for the ending. The

:03:14. > :03:20.crowd here are loving her. I just want to say that we are not in

:03:21. > :03:26.control of the pictures here. 88. 923 gives Russia an interesting

:03:27. > :03:34.score on beam. This is Mustafina, who followed the first gymnast,

:03:35. > :03:37.Melnikova after a fall. Current European champion and was world

:03:38. > :03:43.champion a couple of years ago. She was. She had an absolutely terrible

:03:44. > :03:51.time in qualification. She won't contest beam in the final, but that

:03:52. > :03:58.was a super double spin. A nice controlled opening length. One of

:03:59. > :04:02.the big things gymnasts have to include is acrobatic series, as well

:04:03. > :04:07.as jump series. That was a good change leg with a half turn. She

:04:08. > :04:12.hits splits effortlessly. Happen turning flip into the free

:04:13. > :04:19.cartwheel. She's got now her two acrobatic elements joined. Going for

:04:20. > :04:28.a second one. Free walkovers into the flip. When it's going well for

:04:29. > :04:35.Mustafina she's beautiful. Soft, light, all the Russian gymnasts got

:04:36. > :04:42.a real classical training. Lovely arms. Full extension. She's pausing

:04:43. > :04:55.a bit here ready for the dismount. It's gone well. So has the dismount.

:04:56. > :04:59.Super high, double tuck. This is Madison Kocian, another gymnast that

:05:00. > :05:10.shared the world gold on bars. We've got three of them here in the team

:05:11. > :05:18.final. Kocian to build that score. A very stylish gymnast on this piece,

:05:19. > :05:23.from the. That's into the Shap, into the Pak. Up to the high bar. All

:05:24. > :05:28.these top bar workers are linking every single element. Coach just

:05:29. > :05:35.stepping in for the Jaeger salto, so high above the bar. Plenty of time

:05:36. > :05:41.to spot it. Into the full turn. Straight into the dismount. No

:05:42. > :05:44.movement on that landing. Well, that's how she made the hugely

:05:45. > :05:47.competitive team. We talked about the competition to get onto the

:05:48. > :05:52.Great Britain team. But I mean the Americans, it's another level. Oh,

:05:53. > :05:55.yes, it's really very tough. They've left gymnasts behind who would be

:05:56. > :06:01.top scorers in any of the other teams. She's a very strong bar

:06:02. > :06:09.worker. She's been able to produce that again and again. We see the

:06:10. > :06:18.British team march round there to the floor, ready for their warm-up.

:06:19. > :06:21.Well, Russia will be the first to go in that group. Russia and Great

:06:22. > :06:27.Britain going round together. They're on floor. The USA and China

:06:28. > :06:33.over on beam. We've got Brazil and Germany who move to vault. And Japan

:06:34. > :06:35.and the Netherlands on bars. Halfway round for Great Britain and this is

:06:36. > :06:54.how things look: Just doing the sums here, Russia

:06:55. > :06:58.just over two marks ahead of Great Britain. Then China are

:06:59. > :07:05.two-and-a-half marks up and Japan are half a mark up. Japan have got

:07:06. > :07:09.to go to bars and beam, which tend to be the harder pieces to score or

:07:10. > :07:13.the pieces that can you fall more on. Whereas Great Britain have got

:07:14. > :07:18.floor and vault left. They are two very strong pieces of apparatus.

:07:19. > :07:21.Like we said earlier on, we're not in control of the pictures here.

:07:22. > :07:26.We're trying to do everything we can to show you the important routines.

:07:27. > :07:30.That's why we're watching Mustafina again. We're trying to play in what

:07:31. > :07:34.we can. We have an international feed. It's complicated to say the

:07:35. > :07:38.least. It is. But as she did such a good performance, I'm sure all those

:07:39. > :07:44.gymnastic lovers will be more than happy. Mustafina's probably one of

:07:45. > :07:50.the world's most popular gymnasts. She was a great junior. Had a very

:07:51. > :07:54.nasty injury in 2011, knee operation. Came back at 2012,

:07:55. > :08:00.probably not quite as good as she was before the injury. Still had a

:08:01. > :08:06.great championships in 2012 and thrilled to see her back here.

:08:07. > :08:15.That's confirmation of the score. Good, high score. Again, you can see

:08:16. > :08:18.Japan in the fourth place. As Beth was saying, I guess that's why

:08:19. > :08:22.gymnastics is the way it is, you have all the different pieces of

:08:23. > :08:27.apparatus that test the body. For some countries, certain pieces suit

:08:28. > :08:31.others. Japan's weakest pieces to come. It's interesting going round

:08:32. > :08:37.with Russia. We're doing the same piece as them at the same time. It's

:08:38. > :08:41.a very comparable score with Russia. Russia struggled on floor in

:08:42. > :08:49.qualification. It will be interesting to see how they fare in

:08:50. > :08:53.this team final. The tentative beam awaits Team USA. This is Alexandra

:08:54. > :08:59.Raisman, current Olympic bronze medallist on beam. Tentative is not

:09:00. > :09:07.a word I would ever use to describe the American team. They take this

:09:08. > :09:12.piece of apparatus and own it. With that first front somersault, not a

:09:13. > :09:19.flicker. That could have easily been a big wobble. But her confidence

:09:20. > :09:26.ensured it was only a small wobble. Have to do acrobatic and spins and

:09:27. > :09:38.leaps. You need to be fluent, not too many pauses. The American girls

:09:39. > :09:42.do usually work with good rhythm. Another acrobatic skill, free

:09:43. > :09:51.cartwheel. Now that is the most tentative element we've seen her do

:09:52. > :09:55.yet. The leap with the half turn. Very nice front somersault. My

:09:56. > :09:59.criticism would be that when she does her jumps and leaps she doesn't

:10:00. > :10:04.always hit a split position. The judges will have little deductions

:10:05. > :10:12.for that. Certainly won't have many deductions for wobbles. Of course,

:10:13. > :10:19.like all great gymnasts, she's got a fantastic dismount. Quite an amazing

:10:20. > :10:22.dismount, double Arabian, round off half turn into double front and

:10:23. > :10:30.makes it just look like she's doing a jump off the end. How do they do

:10:31. > :10:37.it? I mean, the mind boggles. Simone Biles will be up shortly. Hopefully

:10:38. > :10:41.we will get a chance to see her. For now, we will join Teramoto from

:10:42. > :10:54.Japan. Japan in fourth at the moment. The stoop with the full turn

:10:55. > :11:00.into the Gienger, between the bars. Stoop with the half turn, straight

:11:01. > :11:05.into the front somersault. Really clean catch, straight arms. Using

:11:06. > :11:11.the stoop element a lot. Straight down to the low bar. Up to the high

:11:12. > :11:18.bar. Just got one big task to finish this routine, the wind up, into the

:11:19. > :11:20.dismount. Using the back in full and coach very pleased with that

:11:21. > :11:25.routine. One of the more experienced

:11:26. > :11:34.gymnasts. Competed in London. Second Olympics. Yes, quite an efficient

:11:35. > :11:40.routine, nothing sparkly and exciting, but very clean, very

:11:41. > :11:45.efficient. I would describe her gymnastics like that, she has a rip

:11:46. > :11:50.on her hand I think. Yeah. Wants to show all her team-mates. I got that

:11:51. > :12:00.in Rio! That's right. And I didn't jump off the bar. There's the huge

:12:01. > :12:06.Gienger between the low bars and the big Jaeger salto. She's looking for

:12:07. > :12:11.the bar the whole time, where she's placing her hands. It will be

:12:12. > :12:16.interesting to know where did she get that rip, which part of the

:12:17. > :12:20.routine. You can't see it there yet. Oh,

:12:21. > :12:31.lovely, she's just ripped the skin off and put it on the floor.

:12:32. > :12:37.Rebeca Andrade for Brazil. Hopefully she'll have more luck than

:12:38. > :12:41.on floor. You Yurchenko entry into the two-and-a-half and a huge vault.

:12:42. > :12:47.Considering she had a major injury just over a year ago, they've done

:12:48. > :12:56.so well to get her back fit and completing the Yurchenko

:12:57. > :13:01.two-and-a-half. Tutkhalian awaits the judges. The sparkle this young

:13:02. > :13:04.gymnast has has fed into the senior Russian team. She's qualified fourth

:13:05. > :13:13.for the all-round final in a few days' time. A 5. 8 difficulty. She's

:13:14. > :13:20.not holding back on this piece. She's a bouncy little gymnast. This

:13:21. > :13:23.is a power-packed routine. Starts with a double straight. Very nice

:13:24. > :13:37.landing. Two whips, double pike, oh, big step

:13:38. > :13:59.back there, though. It's been clean, expressive dance.

:14:00. > :14:21.Two very nice twisting elements. And little bit of lack of control at

:14:22. > :14:41.the end of that spin. Full of energy. Oh, a little rebound

:14:42. > :14:47.on that landing as well. Not completely clean, the landings. Some

:14:48. > :14:53.little deductions that you take from the execution score. But a lively

:14:54. > :14:57.performance. As a team, Russia are European champions. They took the

:14:58. > :15:03.silver at the last Olympics. This is going to be a very, very interesting

:15:04. > :15:08.competition. The third piece of apparatus, the third of four. Great

:15:09. > :15:24.Britain will be next to go on floor. Aly Raisman scores 15, that puts the

:15:25. > :15:29.team total to 108.356. 14.866 four Japan, who were for. Things changing

:15:30. > :15:32.around all the time. A nice double straight, although actually in slow

:15:33. > :15:39.motion you can see the slightly loose likes. Here are the two whip

:15:40. > :15:45.somersaults. Into the flick and the double pike. Just buckled slightly

:15:46. > :15:50.on the take off and hold it in knowing that. That has caused the

:15:51. > :15:54.over rotation. Using the double tuck for the last tumble. Like crisps

:15:55. > :15:55.and, not entirely perfection throughout the whole routine. --

:15:56. > :16:01.like Chris Budd. Rebeca Andrade scores 15.4 for

:16:02. > :16:22.Brazil. 13.766 four Seda Tutkhalyan. Mustafina is next

:16:23. > :16:26.to go, the current Olympic bronze medallist. You have two be really

:16:27. > :16:28.very clean on floor to go into the 14s. It's a hard piece to score one,

:16:29. > :16:43.really. Mustafina hosted a 5.7 in

:16:44. > :16:53.qualification. Her experience counts for a lot in 18 final. -- in a team

:16:54. > :16:57.final. She has been lost up, trying to keep calm, trying to keep the

:16:58. > :17:10.team is composed as possible. They need her now.

:17:11. > :17:21.That is an important element, the spin. Held the leg beautifully. Full

:17:22. > :17:53.twisting double back. Enjoy this beautiful dance work.

:17:54. > :18:04.Such a beautiful shoulder line. Like a ballerina. She has used the ballet

:18:05. > :18:10.work, the spins. Two somersaults, beautiful landing. This time she

:18:11. > :18:35.makes the triple spin. She comes up for this big double

:18:36. > :18:40.tuck dismount. A real classy, classical routine. Not as difficult

:18:41. > :18:45.as many we will see, but one of the most beautiful. One more piece to go

:18:46. > :18:49.for Russia. There's a real chase on for that silver medal position with

:18:50. > :18:56.China. But out in gold medal position at the team USA. Just

:18:57. > :19:02.prepare to be amazed, how does this gymnast do that? Goodness me. It is

:19:03. > :19:07.very tough, she is so strong in the likes. To spin in a squat position

:19:08. > :19:18.is very hard. She is also dynamic and determined. A front somersault

:19:19. > :19:23.with half term. -- half turn. As soon as she has finished one

:19:24. > :19:28.element, she is off to the next. No long pauses. It could have easily

:19:29. > :19:33.come off, but she wasn't going to. She had made her mind up before she

:19:34. > :19:39.started. Just the slightest hesitation between the front

:19:40. > :19:43.somersault. If you can persuade the gymnast to keep the rhythm like

:19:44. > :19:49.this, in many ways it helps. The longer you stand around, the more

:19:50. > :19:58.the nerves get to you. Very nicely done, that series.

:19:59. > :20:08.The free walkover. Everything is choreographed. The arms are the same

:20:09. > :20:13.every time. Enjoy this! Full twisting double back. Super

:20:14. > :20:19.dismount. She was nervous I think. That's the most I've seen her have

:20:20. > :20:24.to fight, you can see. That was shaky for Simone Biles. The mind

:20:25. > :20:29.boggles. Her training regime, the rats that she does in order to be

:20:30. > :20:39.that confident. And yet, it was shaky for her. It was, she had to

:20:40. > :20:45.fight. 130.955 for Russia at the moment. That is a good score because

:20:46. > :20:52.she only had a low difficulty. But then she did perform and

:20:53. > :20:57.beautifully. Just a little pause to wait for the score to come around.

:20:58. > :21:10.She's made every single final possible, Simone Biles. Her score is

:21:11. > :21:14.15.3 on beam. Simone says, I'll have that, and put all of the experience

:21:15. > :21:20.down to knowing how that beam feels for the all-round final which will

:21:21. > :21:28.be in a few days' time. Just look across the board, 46, 46, 45.

:21:29. > :21:34.But this is what it's all about. Russia, China, Japan, Great Britain.

:21:35. > :21:40.All going to be in the mix when it comes to the final piece of

:21:41. > :21:44.apparatus. It's interesting now, China are over on beam. They're very

:21:45. > :21:49.renowned for this piece. As we've seen, they can have errors on it.

:21:50. > :21:54.Great Britain are on floor which is a very dynamic piece for us. Germany

:21:55. > :22:00.are over on vault and the Netherlands are on bars. Of course,

:22:01. > :22:06.Germany, their real strong piece is bars. They've still got that to

:22:07. > :22:10.come. Interestingly, as far as the Chinese gymnasts are concerned, they

:22:11. > :22:15.have Shang Chunsong who is 20 years old. She is the most experienced in

:22:16. > :22:19.the team. But there two 16-year-olds as well. As the pressure builds,

:22:20. > :22:25.they have been more tentative peace is still to come. You have to ask

:22:26. > :22:29.yourself the question, how will they cope at this level? This is the

:22:30. > :22:35.Olympic final and you have two 16-year-olds. Can they cope? I'm

:22:36. > :22:40.sure they will. Great Britain also has a 16-year-old on the floor as

:22:41. > :22:45.well. I actually think sometimes the youngsters come in wide-eyed and

:22:46. > :22:47.excited. Sometimes it's actually a bit easier being young, particularly

:22:48. > :22:53.when you've been to one Olympics and loved it. You really want to get

:22:54. > :22:57.back and do another Olympics. Sometimes you can be a bit desperate

:22:58. > :23:04.about it. Where is the youngsters just go with it. I'm sure lots of

:23:05. > :23:07.you, if you are staying up late, will be inspired. You can get

:23:08. > :23:15.involved by going to the website at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps we

:23:16. > :23:19.should give a mention to Sean O'Neill. Do you remember that

:23:20. > :23:26.picture we saw this morning? He thought he was a British gymnast,

:23:27. > :23:34.had a swing on the post but ended up with a few stitches. If you will get

:23:35. > :23:44.inspired, do be careful! So, China's bid on beam begins with Wang Yan,

:23:45. > :23:51.the first of the 16-year-olds. Who, I have to say, did impress me in the

:23:52. > :23:59.qualification day. Super high hike front somersault. -- Pike front

:24:00. > :24:07.somersault. But she wouldn't get those two jumps linked. They're

:24:08. > :24:12.quite low, actually. In direct contrast to the Americans. We've had

:24:13. > :24:19.a long wait on the end. But a very nice straight back somersault. The

:24:20. > :24:24.judges do deduct a bit for these long wait. But they deduct more if

:24:25. > :24:38.you fall off. So if gymnasts have a choice, they go for that. Strong

:24:39. > :24:42.free walkover. Nicely performed. They have to do at least eight

:24:43. > :24:52.moves, five of them acrobatic. Three of them should be leaked or spins.

:24:53. > :24:56.-- leaps or spins. They add up to give you a difficulty score. It

:24:57. > :25:00.might have been a bit static, but it hasn't been wobbly. She hasn't

:25:01. > :25:08.fallen. She has a super triple twist dismount. They will be happy with

:25:09. > :25:24.that. Wang Yan is through. Her job is through. She was in the world

:25:25. > :25:28.final and she fell at there. Just correcting a little wobbly. There

:25:29. > :25:34.you saw the two leaps but did join. Each gymnast hast you have two leaps

:25:35. > :25:40.that join. Or a leap and a spin. You have to have two dance element and

:25:41. > :25:46.two acrobatic elements linked. Just a reminder that China wherein second

:25:47. > :25:52.going into this rotation. Russia not far behind. Japan in fourth, Great

:25:53. > :25:58.Britain with this. -- Great Britain worth it. Gymnasts keeping warm and

:25:59. > :26:00.keeping their heads down. Quite a lot don't like to watch the

:26:01. > :26:06.performer before them. They like to go into the zone. R B Douglas. The

:26:07. > :26:18.only piece she is working today are the bars. -- Gabby Douglas. Russia

:26:19. > :26:23.put in an appeal on Mustafina's floor score but it has been

:26:24. > :26:27.rejected. There will be no change to the floor score. Just a little more

:26:28. > :26:37.warm up going on for China as far as beam is concerned. We will go across

:26:38. > :26:44.to vault now. Germany with a 5.4 difficulty. Using the handspring

:26:45. > :26:50.entry. Straight shape with the half-tone and a good clean landing.

:26:51. > :26:53.The first Olympic Games or Pauline Schafer. This was their weakest

:26:54. > :27:00.piece as far as qualification was concerned. A relatively simple

:27:01. > :27:04.vault, but she performs it very nicely. Lovely straight body. Hands,

:27:05. > :27:14.and create new twist. Very nicely done. -- Hans come up and create the

:27:15. > :27:19.twist. Let's joy in Ellie Downie from Great Britain on floor. Great

:27:20. > :27:25.Britain in fifth as it stands. -- let's join.

:27:26. > :27:33.LA has had an up and down time here on floor. A bit of an injury in

:27:34. > :27:38.qualification. She will be very keen to put that behind her. One and a

:27:39. > :27:40.half twists. A smooth walk out into double Arabian. What a beautiful

:27:41. > :27:53.landing. This is a second very big tumble

:27:54. > :27:56.that she struggled a little bit with. Double pike to Arabian. No

:27:57. > :28:04.trouble today. Now she's done two somersaulting

:28:05. > :28:41.tumbles. Here a twisting tumble. One big tumble to go. Go, Ellie! All

:28:42. > :28:46.that power. Double pike. Lovely landing.

:28:47. > :28:53.Great performance from Ellie. Putting all the demons to rest.

:28:54. > :28:58.Really super floor performance. I mean, it really is her style to pack

:28:59. > :29:01.in the difficulty, go all out. We'll have to see if she stepped out of

:29:02. > :29:06.the floor. We'll see as far as the scores are concerned. But that

:29:07. > :29:15.follows a 14. 466 from Amy Tinkler. Wow. You were saying, Chris, about

:29:16. > :29:25.how hard it is to get the floor score over 14. Amy Tinkler, 14. 466.

:29:26. > :29:32.Germany on 14. 266. Tinkler, of course, qualified for floor final.

:29:33. > :29:38.You can see here one-and-a-half walkout. Looking for that corner

:29:39. > :29:46.into the round-off flip, double Arabian and spots that landing.

:29:47. > :29:49.She's so spatially aware. She is. Here's the double pike Arabian.

:29:50. > :29:54.We're not sure, this is the tumble we were checking. That looks in.

:29:55. > :30:04.That looks in. This is the tumble that she came to grief on in the

:30:05. > :30:08.qualification. The clean double pike at the end. We're not sure if the

:30:09. > :30:13.flag was actually raised before she did one of her tumbles. We will see

:30:14. > :30:17.for the score to come out whether they've given her a penalty or not.

:30:18. > :30:22.It looks like Ruby might be telling her. You stepped out before you

:30:23. > :30:26.went. A clean flag waver for some reason. I don't know what's going

:30:27. > :30:29.on. The difficulty score card is out so the British team can check and

:30:30. > :30:34.make sure that everything is in order. A tentative wait for Ellie.

:30:35. > :30:38.Can you see sister Becky at the moment saying you just relax. I'll

:30:39. > :30:43.take control. Becky's finished now. She's done her two pieces. She can

:30:44. > :30:48.play the mother hen. The only gymnast in the team that's been to

:30:49. > :30:52.an Olympics before. Talking about that, we've only got 11 gymnasts in

:30:53. > :30:55.this whole qualification that have been to the Olympics before. There's

:30:56. > :31:01.a lot of new, young faces coming out. This is one of them, because

:31:02. > :31:07.Simone Biles, as wonderful as she is, she wasn't old enough to compete

:31:08. > :31:15.in London 2012. She made her senior debut shortly after that. She has

:31:16. > :31:22.taken over the world. 0. 1 penalty. Big sister not happy. She's off to

:31:23. > :31:26.go and put in an inquiry. The inquiry actually has to be put in by

:31:27. > :31:33.the head of delegation. The gymnasts themselves can't decide, "Oh, I

:31:34. > :31:42.don't like that score." We're watching the two teams here that are

:31:43. > :31:54.finished. We're about to go to the beam.

:31:55. > :32:05.The last gymnast to go from their three. They're on a 29. 532 at the

:32:06. > :32:13.moment. 6. 4 difficulty in qualification. She's going all out.

:32:14. > :32:16.She is. China are very good on beam. They're always very technically

:32:17. > :32:20.correct. Lovely, straight somersault. They've nearly all

:32:21. > :32:25.performed that. Two jumps afterwards. On a really good day she

:32:26. > :32:32.would probably join the straight somersault to the two jumps. Head

:32:33. > :32:39.beautifully back on those two jumps. Very supple gymnast, as you can see.

:32:40. > :32:59.Leaping to free walkover. Leap in to the side somme. I've been

:33:00. > :33:04.impressed with the Chinese. They definitely define good leaps into

:33:05. > :33:13.good acrobatics. Change leg into free cartwheel.

:33:14. > :33:21.She really hasn't put a foot wrong so far. They've all favoured the

:33:22. > :33:26.triple twist dismount. That was beautifully performed. Great

:33:27. > :33:30.routines from China. China in second at the moment. I'm sure that is

:33:31. > :33:38.where they will stay. This is Amy Tinkler for Great Britain. She was

:33:39. > :33:48.first up. She's in the floor final. Good start. Spin into a jump. Very

:33:49. > :33:58.enjoyable routine. Watch this big, first tumble. Double straight

:33:59. > :34:03.somersault with a full twist. We've already had one huge tumble, here

:34:04. > :34:04.comes another. Double twisting, double tuck, chest down a bit on

:34:05. > :34:34.landing. Good leaps. She's one of the

:34:35. > :34:37.youngest gymnasts in the competition. One-and-a-half walkout

:34:38. > :34:54.into double tuck. Super landing there. Really packed the difficulty

:34:55. > :34:58.in. Upone final big tumble to go. Have to finish with at least a D,

:34:59. > :35:03.she does, double pike, no trouble at all.

:35:04. > :35:09.Great stuff, can you see why she made the floor final. Absolutely.

:35:10. > :35:13.And achieved a 14. 666 for Great Britain. So she started off the last

:35:14. > :35:18.gymnast to go for Great Britain is Claudia Fragapane. Here we go with

:35:19. > :35:22.the Commonwealth champion. Great on beam. What can she do here

:35:23. > :35:39.on floor? Well she's got the most amazing

:35:40. > :35:46.difficulty in this routine. Double straight with a twist. And a jump at

:35:47. > :35:51.the end of it. If you can jump out of these tumbles, then you get a

:35:52. > :35:54.little bit more. This is a really difficult second tumble, double

:35:55. > :36:02.piked Arabian, super high. A big step out. Not sure if it was two

:36:03. > :36:15.feet. If it is two feet, it's 0. 3 deduction. Recovers herself, well

:36:16. > :36:23.into the next series of jumps. You need enormous fitness for this

:36:24. > :36:32.nonstop tempo routine. Selling the routine. Very big tumble, triple

:36:33. > :36:45.twist, that was clean. Into the jump. Very nice control in the

:36:46. > :36:49.double spin. She's very ambitious with this last tumble. Most people

:36:50. > :36:57.only manage to start with this. It's a double straight and she's managed

:36:58. > :37:02.to finish with it. Well that was a great routine. But you saw the flag

:37:03. > :37:06.just lifted there. What a shame. I mean that was just millimetres out

:37:07. > :37:10.at the end. It looked to me like she's nailed that landing, but the

:37:11. > :37:13.judges sit incredibly close to those corners. It was certainly a big

:37:14. > :37:18.deduction with the step out on the previous tumble. You know, what it

:37:19. > :37:23.just wasn't to be. She didn't hold back. She didn't hold back, that's

:37:24. > :37:31.the main thing. No, and it wasn't a major fall over or anything. You can

:37:32. > :37:35.see here, the very powerful back in full straight. Jumping into that

:37:36. > :37:38.jump. There was a slight hop in between. They won't give that

:37:39. > :37:46.connection. You can see the penalties there. Up on the

:37:47. > :37:51.difficulty there 6. 4. What a shame. What a shame, we've given away 0. 5

:37:52. > :37:57.out of the areas. I know the coaches will be very disappointed. They work

:37:58. > :38:04.hard not to do that. Just a bit down on beam there. Not where they'd want

:38:05. > :38:10.to be on floor. 129. 596 for the British team. Even now it's kind of

:38:11. > :38:17.looking up to the scoreboard, a story of what could have been. Such

:38:18. > :38:21.a tight fight this. China and Russia very much in contention. Japan as

:38:22. > :38:29.well, which colour medal will they all end up? The great thing for

:38:30. > :38:33.Russia and for Great Britain is they're heading over to the vault,

:38:34. > :38:37.which is a high scoring piece for us, but also not so great for us,

:38:38. > :38:41.it's a high scoring piece for Russia. She have a Yurchenko

:38:42. > :39:00.two-and-a-half twist. We'll have to sit and wait it out.

:39:01. > :39:09.Great Britain will go first up on vault. We will set the standard for

:39:10. > :39:13.Russia going up second. China will go up first on floor with the USA

:39:14. > :39:19.finishing off the competition on floor. Which will be a great treat

:39:20. > :39:27.for everybody really, the USA finishing on floor. You could see

:39:28. > :39:32.the inquiry into the judges. China have taken the competition to USA,

:39:33. > :39:39.at the moment. We're still waiting for the last score. The judges here

:39:40. > :39:47.discussion about what they should be giving and shouldn't be giving.

:39:48. > :39:55.Yilin Fan waiting for her score, wondering. Have they given a good

:39:56. > :40:02.gap between Russia going into the final piece of apparatus? Great

:40:03. > :40:13.Britain are using Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler and Ellie Downie on our

:40:14. > :40:17.final piece of apparatus. Ellie was superb in the qualification round.

:40:18. > :40:21.She had a flight injury on floor and that punch front somersault. Stopped

:40:22. > :40:26.her routine, she went out of the arena, then came back in and did two

:40:27. > :40:30.vaults and she nailed them. She did. She is a really very, very good

:40:31. > :40:35.vaulter. Her scores weren't quite as high as we would have expected had

:40:36. > :40:40.she just gone to vault without any problem. But she showed just what a

:40:41. > :40:47.gritty performer she is by being able to almost go in cold and two

:40:48. > :40:52.big vaults. They are the same three that competed in the World

:40:53. > :40:56.Championships team final where they vaulted like for the team medal as

:40:57. > :40:59.well. All three of them know what it's like to be under that pressure.

:41:00. > :41:19.We remember Ellie's vault there. The score is in. China will take that

:41:20. > :41:37.and move on to the last pee piece of apparatus.

:41:38. > :41:50.They are 2. 174 outside the medals at the moment, Great Britain.

:41:51. > :41:54.Here's one of the Japanese bar routines, the stoop into the full

:41:55. > :42:01.turn. Straight up to the high bar using the stoop position. Down to

:42:02. > :42:06.the low bar. Very clean work so far. Change in direction to get back to

:42:07. > :42:14.the high bar. The stoop with the half turn. Into the straight.

:42:15. > :42:20.Straight into the Jaeger. Finishing off the dismount using the giant

:42:21. > :42:25.into the back in full. Very pleased and her team-mates are also very

:42:26. > :42:30.pleased with that routine. A huge score of a 15. This is a series of

:42:31. > :42:35.moves that are being used by many of the gymnasts at the end of this

:42:36. > :42:37.championships we will have a slight change to the judging system. This

:42:38. > :42:54.is how things look: Great Britain are 2. 176 outside of

:42:55. > :42:58.the medals. Is that too big an ask as far as vault is concerned? When

:42:59. > :43:03.you look that Russia are also on the same piece of apparatus as us,

:43:04. > :43:08.obviously, Japan are moving to beam, they could make errors over there.

:43:09. > :43:13.It is a lot more difficult to score into the high 14s, low 15s. Russia

:43:14. > :43:17.are two marks ahead of us. Unless they have some major mistakes,

:43:18. > :43:21.unfortunately, I don't think we'll quite catch them. China didn't have

:43:22. > :43:27.a very happy time at all on floor in qualification. You know, you only

:43:28. > :43:33.need one gymnast to fall over twice, but you wouldn't really expect with

:43:34. > :43:36.their experience to do that. Look at the height of that for Ellie. You

:43:37. > :43:39.wouldn't have expected what happened to Great Britain as far as the flags

:43:40. > :43:43.were concerned. No, you wouldn't. You never know. You vault your best

:43:44. > :43:54.and wait and see. What we're saying is this still could go anywhere!

:43:55. > :44:02.With one pee to go. That's the -- piece of apparatus to go. If they

:44:03. > :44:06.have one gymnast who has major problems that could put them out of

:44:07. > :44:11.medal contention. Having three up, three to count is a very, very tough

:44:12. > :44:14.format for our gymnasts. We have actually over the years seen

:44:15. > :44:20.one or two of the American gymnasts do that, particularly on floor. It

:44:21. > :44:28.can be one of the things unexpectedly kicks back at you. I

:44:29. > :44:33.would say the teams have been strong here today. Just like with the men,

:44:34. > :44:41.the best teams have worked really well. Just a reminder, Netherlands

:44:42. > :44:49.and Japan are on beam. Great Britain and Russia on vault, and Germany and

:44:50. > :44:55.Brazil are on bars, third rotation, USA lead, China second, Japan third,

:44:56. > :45:03.Russia fourth, Great Britain fifth. The first gymnast on floor for

:45:04. > :45:11.China, just outside the medals at last year's worlds on floor.

:45:12. > :45:23.Starts with a huge twisting somersault. Three and a half twists.

:45:24. > :45:31.Into a lovely hike front somersault. The only question was was it three

:45:32. > :45:40.and a half or three and a quarter? Now moves back for a second tumble.

:45:41. > :45:48.One and a half walk out. This time into the triple twist. Very clever

:45:49. > :46:06.use of the judging system. That was a very nice spin.

:46:07. > :46:22.Two and a half with a half turn. Nice supple body on the jumps.

:46:23. > :46:30.Rather unusual music. Difficult to interpret. Well-controlled double

:46:31. > :46:39.pike. She needed that double somersault. No twisting elements

:46:40. > :46:45.until then, but that was cleanly through. China looking very, very

:46:46. > :46:49.good in this silver medal position. Interestingly, China have never won

:46:50. > :46:55.a silver medal at the Olympic team final. They do have a gold and a

:46:56. > :47:02.bronze. The last medal was Beijing. Amy Tinkler now for Great Britain.

:47:03. > :47:11.The second vaulter after cloudier scored 14.7. In the top corner she

:47:12. > :47:17.has posted a 5.8. She powers down, a double twist and a great landing.

:47:18. > :47:24.Not much to deduct from there. That was as good a vault as any we've

:47:25. > :47:29.seen with a double twist. You can see here that twisting three and a

:47:30. > :47:32.half was into three and a quarter, but with the code the way it is if

:47:33. > :47:37.you've not quite finished but still punch than they still give you the

:47:38. > :47:40.credit. Then the one and a half into the triple twist and immediately

:47:41. > :47:45.punches the. This gymnast really knows how to use this code. She

:47:46. > :47:54.chooses to wear the Sox to help complete the spins. That was five, I

:47:55. > :48:01.think. Then the two and a half twist into the punch half. All three first

:48:02. > :48:04.tumbles using the twisting, and then hast to show a double twist

:48:05. > :48:13.somersault right at the end of the routine because it's a special

:48:14. > :48:19.requirement. Then finish it off. And says, "That is my job done!" Very

:48:20. > :48:22.much so. She was an impressive in training, but both days of the

:48:23. > :48:25.competition she has got herself together. There will be people who

:48:26. > :48:31.will feel they are not impressed to see the three and a quarter twist

:48:32. > :48:33.and then punch out of it to disguise it and use the loophole in the

:48:34. > :48:50.judging system. Well, we said it is difficult to get

:48:51. > :48:54.a score over 14. A 14.933 four Amy Tinkler! That will send Ellie Downie

:48:55. > :49:01.with quite a bit of spring to the end of the vault runway. She has

:49:02. > :49:07.been reliable in the past on vault. 14.7, a big score for China. Very

:49:08. > :49:10.big. Nothing like they scored in qualification. We did feel they were

:49:11. > :49:19.a little hard done by in qualification. Next up for China is

:49:20. > :49:25.a floor finalist. This is Wang Yan. A hugely difficult routine, this.

:49:26. > :49:27.6.3. Look out for the connections and the little punches, the extra

:49:28. > :49:48.moves on the end of the big tumbles. This gymnast does have some big

:49:49. > :49:56.tumbles. Double twisting, double tuck. Very nicely controlled.

:49:57. > :50:02.To show she can do the multiple twists as well, one half full card.

:50:03. > :50:55.Lovely and smooth. Over this last four years we've seen

:50:56. > :50:59.the Chinese gymnasts struggle with the new floors, struggled with

:51:00. > :51:02.tumbling. But this young lady has really found the key. A lovely

:51:03. > :51:09.double pike to finish with a super landing. That was a masterclass. It

:51:10. > :51:13.was a masterclass as far as floor is concerned. We were talking about the

:51:14. > :51:18.level of gymnastics and how far it's gone over the years, well, I'm sure

:51:19. > :51:22.and I hope you're enjoying what we think is probably the finest display

:51:23. > :51:28.of International gymnastics that we have ever seen. This team from China

:51:29. > :51:31.are greatly improved. They've taken on board the pieces they've

:51:32. > :51:36.struggled with. A whole new young team. They're really coming out

:51:37. > :51:44.fighting. When you think about Great Britain now on 174.362, which

:51:45. > :51:51.suggests that Ellie had a very good volt battery -- very good vault

:51:52. > :51:56.Indy. We will do our best to bring you that vault shortly. She left

:51:57. > :52:05.enough energy for great tumbling on the floor as well. That's the triple

:52:06. > :52:11.twist. So clever, because if your chest is down you can still on tuck.

:52:12. > :52:19.This one was impressive. Double twist, double tuck, chest up.

:52:20. > :52:34.Heidi, light. Committed to the landing. -- High, light. The

:52:35. > :52:38.expression as well. It's all there. I saw Ellie's vault and it was

:52:39. > :52:46.unbelievable, absolutely nailed the landing. We will take that. It was a

:52:47. > :52:50.score of 15.133 four Ellie on bolts. We hope to bring you that so you can

:52:51. > :52:59.see the unbelievable vault very soon. 14.733 four Wang Yan from

:53:00. > :53:06.China. They are really building strongly on floor. Mao Yi will be

:53:07. > :53:12.the last gymnast, another 16-year-old, in this floor final for

:53:13. > :53:17.China. She did fall in qualification and she only scored 11.7. No doubt

:53:18. > :53:21.she will have been in the training gym to put everything right. She

:53:22. > :53:26.will have been. The coaches will have spent a bit of time. A lot of

:53:27. > :53:30.coaches were struggling with the floor qualification. It was giving

:53:31. > :53:39.quite a kick back and many were struggling to find the landing. That

:53:40. > :53:43.was one. Three and a half twists, punch front straight out of the

:53:44. > :53:50.floor area. She really needs to settle down. They can't afford

:53:51. > :53:51.another 11. One and a half twists into the triple twist. That was

:53:52. > :54:16.better. She needs to focus, make sure this

:54:17. > :54:20.tumble works as well. Two and a half, punch front hop. That was much

:54:21. > :54:38.better. Controlled the speed of the run.

:54:39. > :54:46.Rather simple leaps, those. She will need difficult leaps as well as

:54:47. > :54:54.difficult tumbles to build difficulty. Focus well. Good double

:54:55. > :54:58.tuck, but her feet nearly fell away from home again. Well, Russia will

:54:59. > :55:03.have been watching that very, very closely. This is going to be tight.

:55:04. > :55:08.I was quickly trying to do the maths in my head and it looks like she

:55:09. > :55:18.needs a 10.992 to go ahead of Great Britain. She will do that, but here

:55:19. > :55:23.you can see that first tumble, the three and a half. She struggled with

:55:24. > :55:29.it in qualification. Totally out of the floor. But picked herself back

:55:30. > :55:39.up. The one and a half walk out into the round off flick. And the lovely

:55:40. > :55:43.triple twist. Yes, the Russians over on vault at the moment. They are

:55:44. > :55:47.rotating around with Great Britain. They will have seen that and they

:55:48. > :55:53.will know that there is a chance for silver. And then the two and a half

:55:54. > :56:00.twists. This is what makes this format so great because as every

:56:01. > :56:05.score has to count, you can almost, we were counting it home and dry for

:56:06. > :56:08.China. But one person having an absolute nightmare like that, she

:56:09. > :56:21.could have put those hands down a there. The last time China got a

:56:22. > :56:32.bronze was in 1984. The total for Germany, 173.672. Just waiting here.

:56:33. > :56:36.A shame, really, because the team from China have been very strong.

:56:37. > :56:48.Much improved. But it's always been there, systems the little bit that

:56:49. > :56:55.has been suspect. The Sox often don't help with a blind landing.

:56:56. > :56:58.With a blind landing, you may just slip. Unless there is lots and lots

:56:59. > :57:05.of short on the floor, they will just slip. I don't think that's what

:57:06. > :57:08.happened on that first tumble! Her chest was so far in front of her

:57:09. > :57:14.feet when she landed the three and a half. She just bounded out. We're

:57:15. > :57:20.just waiting for a score from China and also a score from Sanne Wevers

:57:21. > :57:26.from the Netherlands team on beam. Then it will move into the second

:57:27. > :57:32.half of this rotation. We have been talking about the Downie sisters.

:57:33. > :57:38.Lieke and Sanne Wevers on the Netherlands are actually twins.

:57:39. > :57:43.Quite a moment for their dad, who is also their coach. He's down on the

:57:44. > :57:50.floor with them as well. A very special moment for their family. You

:57:51. > :57:54.can see the Americans waiting to get up on floor. Gaby and Madison would

:57:55. > :57:58.be working on the floor, so there stood waiting to cheer their team

:57:59. > :58:13.on. It's a long wait for this score to come through.

:58:14. > :58:19.The judges are really taking a very long time over this floor score.

:58:20. > :58:22.They will have a lot to talk about because I suspect they will be

:58:23. > :58:28.wondering whether they actually credit the move. As she didn't

:58:29. > :58:39.completely somersault, she got her feet down first, but it is a fall.

:58:40. > :58:43.Both feet right out. I'm surprised they got quite as much as that. I

:58:44. > :58:48.wonder if the judges will be tired by the time the news starts. --

:58:49. > :58:52.judges will decide by the time the news starts. That will be coming

:58:53. > :59:00.very shortly and we will be switching over to BBC Two. We will

:59:01. > :59:05.just keep waiting. It's in, it's 12.633. That gives them a total of

:59:06. > :59:17.176. Russia with it all to do if they won the silver medal.

:59:18. > :59:23.176 is the score for China of the teams already finished, that put

:59:24. > :59:32.them in the lead. Four more teams to go. The second half of each

:59:33. > :59:36.rotation, USA were in the lead at the end of round three. You've got

:59:37. > :59:44.the picture here of Simone Biles waiting to warm up. Well, Russia

:59:45. > :59:49.need an average of 14.469 and Japan need an average of 14.196 two medal.

:59:50. > :00:23.Join us soon on BBC Two. nothing says Rio de Janeiro

:00:24. > :00:29.quite like it. So I've come here to Rio to explore

:00:30. > :00:34.the culture and the people
