:00:00. > :00:00.result of this match will have a bearing on who Great Britain might

:00:00. > :00:00.be playing in the quarterfinals later as well. There is a

:00:07. > :00:10.possibility of three teams ending up with two wins each in this group.

:00:11. > :00:17.Let's go to Clive Woodward and Eddie Butler.

:00:18. > :00:27.COMMENTATOR: Thank you, it leads us having to do some psalms. Japan beat

:00:28. > :00:33.New Zealand yesterday, that's right, Japan beat New Zealand. They have a

:00:34. > :00:41.chance to end up with two victories to their name and then we have to

:00:42. > :00:53.start working at points difference. Japan have been very impressive. One

:00:54. > :01:23.of their star players is Lomano Lemeki. Towers -- Kuwazuru.

:01:24. > :01:31.Kazushi Hano opens the scoring. Japan racking up the points. They

:01:32. > :01:38.could improve their standing in Great Britain's pool. If anyone has

:01:39. > :01:44.any doubt about the quality of this Japanese team, just watch the

:01:45. > :01:47.brilliant handling. Technically fantastic at the breakdown and Hano

:01:48. > :01:53.going over for the opening score. And this is a good canyon team, make

:01:54. > :01:57.no bones about it but this shoots the Japanese, they are technically

:01:58. > :02:05.very good, fast. The accuracy of their ball-handling has been

:02:06. > :02:09.exceptional. They gave Team GB a really big scare yesterday but we

:02:10. > :02:12.have seen already, after only two minutes, they are totally controlled

:02:13. > :02:17.with everything they are doing. A great start for Japan. Kenya will

:02:18. > :02:24.play a very abrupt, physical game. to what -- they have Oscar Ouma.

:02:25. > :03:11.This is Dennis Ombachi. Injera knocks on. The Kenyans are a

:03:12. > :03:16.big powerful team. Collins Injera, their all-time leading try scorer.

:03:17. > :03:20.The Japanese defence has been very good so far against bigger opponents

:03:21. > :03:23.but when you see this scrum go down now, the speed the ball comes out,

:03:24. > :03:27.they just played that bit quicker which suits the Japanese players.

:03:28. > :03:34.They are not as big as the Kenyans but look how quickly the scrum

:03:35. > :03:49.happens. Set piece ball. Away in a flash. To real go to. -- Goto.

:03:50. > :04:01.Injera is away. They can slow it all down now. Collins Injera.

:04:02. > :04:09.Injera is no doubt their all-time star player. Japan will be very

:04:10. > :04:17.disappointed for that. They just gave the ball away, a silly knock

:04:18. > :04:21.on. They really gave a soft try away. Kenya so far have probably

:04:22. > :04:25.been a bit disappointing. Their opening two games against Team GB

:04:26. > :04:31.and New Zealand. This is a big match for them because so far, they have

:04:32. > :04:36.just brought their physical side of the game into the Sevens tournament

:04:37. > :04:44.and we need to see a bit more from the Kenyans. 7-7.

:04:45. > :05:00.Injera joins the chase. Well taken by Lote Tuqiri.

:05:01. > :05:13.Japan quite happy to go through the phases. Now they have a chance to

:05:14. > :05:25.have a look up and see Loamanu Leckie. -- Lomano Lemeki. What was a

:05:26. > :05:31.thoughtful bit of progress by Japan ends. Japan made a bright start but

:05:32. > :05:37.they have faltered a little bit. They were lucky there is a little

:05:38. > :05:41.bit. Kenny and play just knocked the ball up. But Japan are very

:05:42. > :05:49.comfortable. They would like the one-on-one mismatches in the middle.

:05:50. > :05:54.Look at the speed the ball comes out. They are so good, probably

:05:55. > :06:01.wetter than any other team at the quick restart at the scrums. Japan

:06:02. > :06:06.have done it again, made an unforced error which is most unlike them.

:06:07. > :06:13.They have got such good handling skills. To see them drop the ball

:06:14. > :06:20.like this is a surprise. The captain, Kuwazuru has to have a word

:06:21. > :06:23.with his players, keep on the ball and stop throwing the risky passes

:06:24. > :06:29.because we are bringing the canyon team into this again. Good spot for

:06:30. > :06:43.a scrummage, plenty of space on both sides. Ombachi. Stays on its for a

:06:44. > :06:50.moment. Back to Oscar Ouma but it has been stolen by Japan by Q Azara.

:06:51. > :07:02.Then it goes bouncing all over the shop. Nobody has true control of

:07:03. > :07:06.this ball today. Little bit surprised about decision by the

:07:07. > :07:15.Australian referee. Japan had the ball. They were attacking. They were

:07:16. > :07:22.a long way out. He is just allowed... You can see where they

:07:23. > :07:34.were going to attack from this deep out,. Lovely sleight of hand and it

:07:35. > :07:41.means there is a chance for Goto. To have a run at last and now a chance

:07:42. > :07:44.to go wide. That has gone forward. Oscar Ouma to be avoided. That was a

:07:45. > :08:04.big tackle. Willy Ambaka. Brilliant passage of

:08:05. > :08:09.play by the Japanese. Kuwazuru takes it quickly. The penalty means the

:08:10. > :08:11.half-time whistle cannot be blown. Japan will take a lead in the

:08:12. > :08:29.half-time. Lomano Lemeki, Tongan born player.

:08:30. > :08:33.Well done, Japan. They had the ball, they have got the length of the

:08:34. > :08:38.field and the off-loading again, what a beautiful step up with his

:08:39. > :08:46.right foot. Lemeki over the post and I think Japan deserves that move to

:08:47. > :08:50.a 14-7 lead. It shows you even after the whistle, you can go extra and

:08:51. > :08:54.Japan are so good at restarting and they keep the ball infield. They

:08:55. > :09:09.very rarely get knocked into touch. That allows them to keep the ball.

:09:10. > :09:16.At the interval, Japan lead 14-7. Kazuhiro Goya up with the

:09:17. > :09:22.conversion. Real credit to this Japanese team. You can see on that

:09:23. > :09:27.screen, there is a haze in the top right-hand corner. We have a prairie

:09:28. > :09:31.fire up in the hills. It is quite an extensive one. It is eating into the

:09:32. > :09:38.hillside at the moment. We have got rain and yet we have a forest fire.

:09:39. > :09:44.We have got fireworks on this pitch with this Japanese team. They have

:09:45. > :09:48.been absolutely fantastic. I have to say, Japan ranked tenth in the

:09:49. > :09:53.Olympic men's Sevens. They really have taken on the powerhouses of

:09:54. > :09:58.Team GB, New Zealand and Kenya. They are good for this. You can see in

:09:59. > :10:06.this passage of play, so comfortable on the ball. This was the opening

:10:07. > :10:15.score from the excellent Hano. This was the riposte by Kenya. Collins

:10:16. > :10:21.Injera is one of the stars of the World Series and he has performed

:10:22. > :10:35.brilliantly here. At the Olympics. This is another one. Lomano Lemeki.

:10:36. > :10:43.Lemeki is a wonderful player. To have him in your team, is a big

:10:44. > :10:46.boost. They are good value. Really giving a hurry up to some of the

:10:47. > :10:55.more established power nations in this Sevens game. It is Lemeki who

:10:56. > :11:05.will start the second half. It is going high. And it is not claimed by

:11:06. > :11:11.Kenya but it was the knock-on by Lote Tuqiri. You will have the

:11:12. > :11:18.relief of the put in at the scrum, Kenya, but they didn't manage that

:11:19. > :11:23.kick off very well. Lemeki, the height on it and Kenya panicked a

:11:24. > :11:30.little bit. Lote Tuqiri, those who recognise his name, his cousin is

:11:31. > :11:34.famous, the Australian winger. Japan in a good position, managing to pin

:11:35. > :11:39.Kenya back in their own half right at the start of the second half. Not

:11:40. > :11:43.just in their own half but underneath their own posts. Or just

:11:44. > :11:51.to the side of them. Five-metre scrum. Japan will have the put in.

:11:52. > :11:56.Kenya showing a little bit of naivete, this is a very aggressive

:11:57. > :12:01.Japanese defence. They are hanging back, no drifting, straight in and

:12:02. > :12:04.really that was the time to boot the ball downfield and get out of your

:12:05. > :12:14.position. Great opportunity for Japan. The speed of the ball from

:12:15. > :12:18.the scrum. Kazuhiro Goya. Dancing steps again. Brilliant defence. Did

:12:19. > :12:33.he get the ball down? It has been awarded. The try. A solo run. Just

:12:34. > :12:39.check this touchdown. Well done. Well done. The referee right on the

:12:40. > :12:47.mark. Never in doubt. The footwork of these Japanese players, allowing

:12:48. > :12:53.Kazuhiro Goya to score under the posts. This should be a formality.

:12:54. > :13:01.Great ball as he pushes the ball wide. But great score, great step.

:13:02. > :13:05.It all comes, when the ball comes out that quick from the scrum,

:13:06. > :13:09.doesn't matter who was defending, you will have half a chance. Goya

:13:10. > :13:13.with fantastic footwork, puts his team ahead with just under five

:13:14. > :13:20.minutes to go. Japan started this game with a points difference of

:13:21. > :13:23.flat zero. They lost by two to New Zealand's -- Great Britain and they

:13:24. > :13:35.beat New Zealand by two so now they are plus 12. They have earned

:13:36. > :13:40.themselves another penalty. Kenya a little bit disappointed for a team

:13:41. > :13:45.that has won World Series events. To absolutely take the ball into

:13:46. > :13:49.contact and recycle quickly. It has been their downfall and they seem a

:13:50. > :13:54.little flat, Kenya, not only in this game but the first couple of games

:13:55. > :13:58.as well. A disappointing team to come to the Olympics so far and

:13:59. > :14:03.Japan doing exactly the right thing. Going to the line-out to take time

:14:04. > :14:07.off the clock. A 12 point lead and so far their set plays and line-outs

:14:08. > :14:15.have gone well. If they can win this right out... The coach watching from

:14:16. > :14:21.the sideline as his team sets up. This is a good driving maul and can

:14:22. > :14:27.Lomano Lemeki get the ball down? It will be a penalty try instead.

:14:28. > :14:36.Japan's points difference in their favour grows. Great thing about

:14:37. > :14:40.seven aside rugby is the creativity of coaching, there are so many

:14:41. > :14:44.things you can do. The driving maul of the Japanese, we never thought we

:14:45. > :14:47.would see that, they have ended up with yellow card. Preventing the try

:14:48. > :15:13.in the maul. Humphrey Kayange is off. It is a

:15:14. > :15:18.penalty try. Japan are 26-7 in front, plus 19, their points

:15:19. > :15:21.difference. Well-deserved. I thought it was a hard-core, what he's

:15:22. > :15:24.supposed to do when a team is driving like that -- it was a hard

:15:25. > :15:41.call. Another fantastic restart. Injera is

:15:42. > :15:46.surrounded by Japanese tacklers. And they have given away yet another in

:15:47. > :15:55.penalty. They know this has not been their tournament. I am also

:15:56. > :16:01.impressed with Japan. Just cool heads, they know what they are

:16:02. > :16:07.doing. Lemeki just puts the ball in the corner, runs the clock down.

:16:08. > :16:15.This team are pushing. They have beaten New Zealand and pushed Great

:16:16. > :16:20.Britain very close. And I are now up against six Kenyans. Presumably,

:16:21. > :16:31.they will commit at least three to the line-out. It has worked once, do

:16:32. > :16:41.it again. Or do they give it with? Choices, choices. They have gone

:16:42. > :16:57.wide. It is got to, who can't quite score. -- Teruya Goto. Another

:16:58. > :17:05.penalty to Japan. The Japanese team stepped in, created space out wide.

:17:06. > :17:15.The referee pushes them out wide. Just over a minute left to play.

:17:16. > :17:20.Back comes Humphrey Kayange. There is a real calm about this Japanese

:17:21. > :17:25.team. They know exactly what they are doing. Reading how they reacted

:17:26. > :17:28.yesterday, they said they were not expecting much from the Olympics,

:17:29. > :17:43.but their confidence has grown as the Games have gone by.

:17:44. > :18:01.The referee raised the hand, put it down. We will have a look. I think

:18:02. > :18:14.it was Lemeki who called Eddy. Just to confirm it, try awarded.

:18:15. > :18:30.Definitely try. Lomano Lemeki has really added something to the team.

:18:31. > :18:37.Teruya Goto misses. Could be important. Japan's points

:18:38. > :19:01.difference, plus 24 now. Japan don't want to go for a try.

:19:02. > :19:09.Perhaps they don't know about points difference. Do they care? They have

:19:10. > :19:17.resoundingly beaten Kenya 31-7. It will be interesting to know if they

:19:18. > :19:28.have a chance of scoring there. Japan are giving it a go regardless.

:19:29. > :19:33.A brilliant scholar and for the Japanese. It has grown -- a

:19:34. > :19:37.brilliant score for the Japanese. It has thrown this group wide open.

:19:38. > :19:41.Well, the plot certainly thickens after that result. With Great

:19:42. > :19:44.Britain playing New Zealand next up, it will be fascinating to see the

:19:45. > :19:48.tactics and points difference might come into play in this group, as it

:19:49. > :19:52.did in the one before and after the victory of Australia over South

:19:53. > :19:57.Africa. Let's talk in general terms about the rugby sevens event here,

:19:58. > :20:00.which by common consent has been a roaring success. As the Olympic

:20:01. > :20:05.family gets bigger and bigger and surfing comes into the Games in four

:20:06. > :20:08.years' time, some sports are more welcome than others. Matthew Pinsent

:20:09. > :20:13.has been assessing how welcome rugby is.

:20:14. > :20:18.The huge Deodoro sports complex is going to host lots of sports during

:20:19. > :20:21.Rio 2016, and this one is going to be for rugby sevens. It's a long

:20:22. > :20:26.time since rugby of any description has been in the Olympics, so we are

:20:27. > :20:30.here to witness a little piece of history. Team GB are going to be

:20:31. > :20:37.part of that as the women start the competition. And they have scored

:20:38. > :20:45.the first try of their Olympic history. First obstacle overcome for

:20:46. > :20:48.the British team. Is this the biggest event your daughter were

:20:49. > :20:54.other company in? That is probably true. She has played in other

:20:55. > :21:00.events, but the Olympics is a level above. It's buzzing. It is, and it's

:21:01. > :21:06.great that it has been highlighted and showcased the way it is. It is a

:21:07. > :21:12.fantastic set piece for women's rugby. How nervous is it for you to

:21:13. > :21:16.be her sister? I think my parents find it more difficult. She's got

:21:17. > :21:22.two tries in the first game and my mum sobbed! I was holding her up

:21:23. > :21:27.with one hand and my dad with the other. What is this team capable of?

:21:28. > :21:33.Capable of a gold medal. We have world-class players, the likes of

:21:34. > :21:37.Emily Scarratt and Abbie Brown, Jasmine Joyce from Wales. She came

:21:38. > :21:45.from nowhere and started rugby a year ago. Just quality. This is more

:21:46. > :21:52.than just a British story. Though this sport, this competition could

:21:53. > :21:57.take it to a whole new audience. It is such a good move to bring in

:21:58. > :22:00.rugby sevens, because it is so easy to follow. Instead of 15 people

:22:01. > :22:05.jumping around the pitch, seven dashing everywhere at the speed of

:22:06. > :22:09.light. The game of rugby everywhere will get a huge stage to perform.

:22:10. > :22:15.This will go right around the world. Can you see the Olympics becoming,

:22:16. > :22:25.in sevens rugby, the must win title? I think it is already there. I can

:22:26. > :22:31.see the game going from strength to strength on the back of the catalyst

:22:32. > :22:35.being here at the Olympics. There has been lots of talk about new

:22:36. > :22:40.sports in Rio. When tennis started in 1988, the best players were not

:22:41. > :22:44.there. Golf hasn't covered itself in glory in the last few weeks, so it's

:22:45. > :22:50.wonderful to have been here and see a sport make his debut and hit the

:22:51. > :22:55.ground running. Is it exciting for you? Is it a chance for rugby? The

:22:56. > :22:59.only thing I regret about it is that I am not fit enough to have played

:23:00. > :23:02.in it. You can see from the league table

:23:03. > :23:08.after that much that this next game between Great Britain and New

:23:09. > :23:12.Zealand is going to be fascinating. It is really tight. The tiniest

:23:13. > :23:17.margins will be key in determining the finishing positions in this

:23:18. > :23:24.group and who these teams play in the last eight. I am joined by the

:23:25. > :23:30.chairman of world rugby, a familiar face to fans in Scotland. That piece

:23:31. > :23:36.from Matthew Pinsent was very upbeat, but it was recorded a few

:23:37. > :23:40.days ago. I think in the last 48 hours, the enormity of what rugby

:23:41. > :23:44.has achieved has got even greater. Yes, in terms of following on social

:23:45. > :23:53.media, it has exceeded all expectations. I wondered how the

:23:54. > :23:57.women's game would go. The top teams are really good, but the ones below

:23:58. > :24:05.that are as well. So the platform has developed superbly, and it went

:24:06. > :24:09.up to another level with the men's game. We will not know until the

:24:10. > :24:13.last game of the pools who is going to play each other. On the women's

:24:14. > :24:18.game, do you see sevens as the platform for getting more people

:24:19. > :24:22.into the sport rather than 15s? No doubt. If you go to developing

:24:23. > :24:27.countries or new countries that are coming in, it's easier to play

:24:28. > :24:31.sevens and a lot better to watch. So yes, I see sevens as the driver.

:24:32. > :24:35.There will still be a big fifteens game, but sevens is the driver for

:24:36. > :24:39.women. Dan Lyle from world rugby and former USA captain who people in the

:24:40. > :24:42.West Country will recall from happy years at Bath, if ever there was a

:24:43. > :24:48.country that sevens is reaching out to, it has to be the USA. 1 million

:24:49. > :24:56.people are already watching now nightly on NBC -- 41 million people.

:24:57. > :24:59.The women's captain was on the Ryan Seacrest show last night. They have

:25:00. > :25:03.to take out insurance on the set because they were doing scrums. So a

:25:04. > :25:08.whole new generation are being introduced to the game. Has this

:25:09. > :25:18.exceeded expectations? Even allowing for a few caveats, has this exceeded

:25:19. > :25:21.your wildest hopes? At every level. The amount of people playing the

:25:22. > :25:26.game, the level of the rugby and the crowds. It has been building every

:25:27. > :25:33.day and today there were crowds waiting to get in. The stadium will

:25:34. > :25:39.be full this afternoon. At what stage do you think rugby can crack

:25:40. > :25:46.the USA? I think the crack has been there for a long time. We grew up

:25:47. > :25:49.thinking of rugby in two terms, college and the Olympics. The

:25:50. > :25:54.Olympics is a guaranteed, one time every four years, everybody shoots

:25:55. > :25:58.for it as a child. As an adult, sponsors and broadcasters want to be

:25:59. > :26:02.part of it, so we are now in it and it is about taking advantage of

:26:03. > :26:09.that. We have a lot of plans for USA rugby. A lot of entrepreneurs are

:26:10. > :26:13.getting involved. Good to see you. John, this game is pretty key given

:26:14. > :26:19.the points difference. Yes, I am not good at maths, as a Scotsman and a

:26:20. > :26:24.farmer, but I think we going to have to win to guarantee going through.

:26:25. > :26:27.Good to see you, gents. So, Great Britain's men's team will be on

:26:28. > :26:30.field shortly. And this has been their build-up to the Olympics of

:26:31. > :26:54.2016. As a kid who loves sport, I used to

:26:55. > :26:57.love watching the Olympics, feeling the tingles of athletes winning

:26:58. > :27:01.medals. I guess the prospect of being able to do that is one that

:27:02. > :27:08.gives meeting girls sitting here now. Rugby sevens only has seven

:27:09. > :27:13.people per side -- that gives me tingles. You need to be incredibly

:27:14. > :27:17.fit and incredibly fast. The speed that people are travelling to each

:27:18. > :27:30.other means that you do get bigger hits. Across the board now, their

:27:31. > :27:35.athleticism is crazy. As a scrum, you pack down on the ball is out and

:27:36. > :27:40.you run again. If you can create a team that has those characters,

:27:41. > :27:45.those skill sets, you give yourself the chance of being successful. I

:27:46. > :27:48.have been impressed with the English boys. Everyone is really going well.

:27:49. > :27:54.It is nice to see different characters. You speak to the Welsh

:27:55. > :27:57.and English boys when you are away on tour, but they are always short

:27:58. > :28:03.conversation my whereas now you get to know the boys you are playing

:28:04. > :28:06.with and it is nice. We are on an amazing journey, representing GB

:28:07. > :28:10.together. This is the biggest thing a lot of us will achieve in our

:28:11. > :28:16.careers and everyone wants to push themselves as hard as they can, both

:28:17. > :28:19.physically and mentally. We are excited to show it to the rest of

:28:20. > :28:25.the world, because it is such an exciting game. No one has seen us

:28:26. > :28:32.play before. No one knows what we do. We have the surprise element

:28:33. > :28:36.going in. A lot of people are writing us off, and that is the way

:28:37. > :28:42.we like it. I am sure we can pull some surprises. Well, the journey

:28:43. > :28:46.began with two victories yesterday, but this is the crunch against New

:28:47. > :28:50.Zealand. As John Jeffrey was saying a few moments ago, Great Britain

:28:51. > :28:54.really have to win this match. Let's have a quick word with Sir Clive

:28:55. > :28:57.Woodward, who will be commentating alongside Eddie Butler. Clive, do

:28:58. > :29:01.you think the aura of invincibility of the All Blacks, certainly in the

:29:02. > :29:05.sevens arena, has now been broken, so Great Britain will approach this

:29:06. > :29:11.match differently to how they would have done a couple of years ago? I

:29:12. > :29:15.think Team GB play against the New Zealand players so often that I

:29:16. > :29:22.don't think there is the aura any more about the All Blacks. When it

:29:23. > :29:26.first started, New Zealand won the first three, but last year Australia

:29:27. > :29:29.won. And these boys will be used to playing against them. Watching the

:29:30. > :29:33.way New Zealand played yesterday, Team GB should go in with a loss of

:29:34. > :29:40.confidence, because New Zealand were not at their best yesterday. I think

:29:41. > :29:45.this is a close game to call, but that should be no inferiority

:29:46. > :29:50.complex about taking on this team. Who is the key man for Great

:29:51. > :29:53.Britain? Without doubt, Tom Mitchell. Watching the seven A-side

:29:54. > :30:01.players, Mitchell is born to play sevens. He seems to have so much

:30:02. > :30:07.time. Here's a great captain and a player. If he does well today, the

:30:08. > :30:09.team has a good chance of topping the group and beating the New

:30:10. > :30:19.Zealand team. Here we go. If Great Britain win, they are

:30:20. > :30:35.unbeaten in the pool and go through. We are off. Tom Mitchell, the

:30:36. > :30:43.captain. But the big boot to the ball, straight down the middle of

:30:44. > :30:50.the pitch. Sam Dickson for the all blacks. Akira Ioane, one of the two

:30:51. > :31:07.I won the brothers on the field. DJ Forbes. This is Pulu.

:31:08. > :31:16.Regan Ware, new to the starting line-up for New Zealand. Again,

:31:17. > :31:22.interesting, the New Zealand team, taking long and away from Rodwell

:31:23. > :31:36.and it has worked out for them because they now how the -- have the

:31:37. > :31:39.ball. Pulu to Mickelson. James Davis tries to get over the ball but it

:31:40. > :31:49.comes back to Mikkelson who goes nowhere.

:31:50. > :32:09.Turnover by Phil Burgess. Penalty to Great Britain. They survived the

:32:10. > :32:18.early start. Quickly taken by James Davis, the Welshman. Dan Bibby. Dan

:32:19. > :32:30.Norton. Cuts inside DJ Forbes, goes past Ioane. Dan Norton. Pulu. Still

:32:31. > :32:38.Norton. It is a chance. They have to watch the ball bounce. The Scotsman

:32:39. > :32:44.with the kick ahead. He pauses, dances and Great Britain take the

:32:45. > :32:51.lead through Mark Bennett. Great score by Mark Bennett. Really

:32:52. > :32:56.impressive over the first two games. And again, I'm not sure this New

:32:57. > :33:00.Zealand team have the pace they normally have. Watch Norton, this

:33:01. > :33:07.guy has pace. What a wonderful site. Seeing him in full flight. He rides

:33:08. > :33:14.the challenge as well. Just taking him out but again, no panic. Bennett

:33:15. > :33:21.sees the pace, gets the bounce, Mitchell makes no mistake with the

:33:22. > :33:26.current version. 7-0. Mark Bennett between the posts, Tom Mitchell from

:33:27. > :33:32.in front. New Zealand 0- seven Great Britain. Team GB were pushing very

:33:33. > :33:37.hard on this New Zealand team and the defensive side of the play was

:33:38. > :33:41.excellent. Mitchell restarts. His kick-offs so far have been

:33:42. > :33:45.excellent. He has spent a lot of time on this part of his game. There

:33:46. > :33:49.is a strong wind behind him at the moment. It turns in the direction of

:33:50. > :33:57.Rodwell and once, Rodwell gets it wrong. A free kick to New Zealand on

:33:58. > :34:06.the centre spot. Augustine Pulu. Here it is. A good call. Up to the

:34:07. > :34:12.chaser Rodwell just to run inwards so he doesn't cross the line where

:34:13. > :34:15.the ball is kicked. Mikkelson, good knock-on by New Zealand. James

:34:16. > :34:20.Davies kicks it back. Advantage being played. Mitchell gets away,

:34:21. > :34:32.gets the past Bibby. How well they combined. That was very well read by

:34:33. > :34:35.Akira Ioane. Regan Ware caught in his own 22. James Davies from the

:34:36. > :34:39.floor cannot quite make a second tackle but this is what he does so

:34:40. > :34:50.well. Over the ball, wins the penalty.

:34:51. > :35:00.If you are going to kick the ball away in rugby, make sure you get the

:35:01. > :35:07.restart. Again, we have Mitchell calling the shots. Dan Bibby to

:35:08. > :35:15.Mitchell. He pauses, looks, sees, assesses. Burgess. Held by an ankle

:35:16. > :35:22.and Dan Bibby has to go in and help. This is where New Zealand are very

:35:23. > :35:30.strong. Second try for New Zealand, James Davis the scorer. -- second

:35:31. > :35:36.try for Great Britain. New Zealand cannot live with the pace of James

:35:37. > :35:41.Davies, brother of Jonathan Davies. A great cut back and really

:35:42. > :35:47.impressed with James Davies, the Welsh lad, in the starting team. Not

:35:48. > :35:57.only that, not sure what that is all about! He is licking cubby boy which

:35:58. > :36:02.is tattooed on his knuckles. Interest in watching the set play.

:36:03. > :36:08.Mitchell was more like a matador, trying to bring the New Zealand team

:36:09. > :36:15.onto him. Brings them up and wow, hipster bases, a great score for the

:36:16. > :36:19.team. Great first six minutes. There is James Davis. Rodwell have to stay

:36:20. > :36:25.behind the line at the kick-off. I'm sure Mitchell will go for him again.

:36:26. > :36:35.Can we get the ball back? I think he will go to Rodwell. Mighty close

:36:36. > :36:42.again but Rodwell challenges. Back for Gillies Kaka and now it comes to

:36:43. > :36:49.Rieko Ioane. Thrown down. Phil Burgess over the ball. A free

:36:50. > :37:01.Burgess winds. -- a free for all. Or just wins it. -- Burgess winds it.

:37:02. > :37:13.What intelligence by Dan Norton. How to finish the try. What intelligence

:37:14. > :37:21.by Tom Mitchell. Mitchell here, heads up, plenty of time. Again,

:37:22. > :37:25.Norton doesn't panic, uses his feet. Try, great score. The hooter has

:37:26. > :37:39.gone, Team GB totally dominating the first seven minutes. Tom Mitchell,

:37:40. > :37:43.two conversions already. If Great Britain carry on like this, we won't

:37:44. > :37:46.have to worry about points difference but 21 points at

:37:47. > :37:55.half-time doesn't half help when it comes to the sums. Watching the

:37:56. > :38:02.players high-fiving each other, I called Mitchell before the game when

:38:03. > :38:07.John Inverdale asked me, he is just a magical Sevens player. He is like

:38:08. > :38:08.a matador, bringing players on, creating space. It must be wonderful

:38:09. > :38:20.playing outside Mitchell. Tough time for the New Zealand

:38:21. > :38:39.coach. 22 years, Gordon Tietjens in the

:38:40. > :38:49.job. How he would love an Olympic medal but the task is enormous.

:38:50. > :38:52.Shock yesterday by Japan and shocked it today by this combination of the

:38:53. > :38:59.Scotsman Mark Bennett, five Englishmen in the starting line-up

:39:00. > :39:06.and one Welshman, James Davies. Here is James Davies helping the process

:39:07. > :39:11.along. It is the kicking game of the team that has been so relevant. The

:39:12. > :39:32.kick down from Mitchell, the kick before by the Mark Bennett.

:39:33. > :39:43.This game is far from over. It is so important Team GB get their minds

:39:44. > :39:49.set on the score as 0-0. If we can play the first half -- second-half

:39:50. > :39:54.anything like the first half, it will be the reward of the team. The

:39:55. > :40:00.restart for Mitchell. A wonderful first seven minutes for this team.

:40:01. > :40:07.No changes for Team GB. Tom Mitchell kicks high. Rodwell comes infield.

:40:08. > :40:11.Dan Bibby arrives first. What is the response of New Zealand? Sam Dickson

:40:12. > :40:19.starting off. It has gone flying backwards. Ioane. Interception by

:40:20. > :40:24.Rodwell. If that is a deliberate knock-on, it will be yellow. Craig

:40:25. > :40:31.Joubert is saying it is not deliberate. Relief. Team GB have

:40:32. > :40:35.their six players in defence here with Mitchell stood behind and

:40:36. > :40:41.organising, shouting and screaming, trying to spot when New Zealand are

:40:42. > :40:45.in attack. Gillies Kaka for New Zealand. A high tackle. The arm is

:40:46. > :40:54.out for the high tackle by Dan Bibby. Bibby's high tackle

:40:55. > :41:01.penalised. He goes Kaka. Rieko Ioane. Akira Ioane gets past Dan

:41:02. > :41:14.Norton. Davies gets back, important tackle. DJ Forbes.

:41:15. > :41:20.Mikkelsen. Akira Ioane does well to avoid the touchline. An advantage

:41:21. > :41:35.being played. Advantage over now so just plain old open play. Regan Ware

:41:36. > :41:45.sets it up. DJ Forbes. Akira Ioane and outside him, Mikkelson. I only

:41:46. > :41:52.hauled down by Dan Norton. -- Ioane hold Delhi hauled down. Dan Bibby

:41:53. > :41:59.rushes up. Kaka. How will be played. It will be Sam Dickson for the line.

:42:00. > :42:05.James Davies with the tackle again. Rieko Ioane scores. New Zealand

:42:06. > :42:11.strike back. They are on the board. Excellent try from New Zealand. I

:42:12. > :42:15.have to say I thought this from Team GB was world class. They had almost

:42:16. > :42:20.taken two and a half minutes out of the clock by that defensive effort.

:42:21. > :42:25.They kept their shape and the two minutes they defended for,

:42:26. > :42:30.absolutely excellent. Think of the New Zealand team as powerful,

:42:31. > :42:35.especially the Ioane brothers, they have that pace to score quickly.

:42:36. > :42:40.That is important. It is very important. They need three tries to

:42:41. > :42:48.get ahead. This is important but it misses from AGB perspective. James

:42:49. > :42:56.Rodwell is going off the Team GB. Marcus Watson coming on. Height

:42:57. > :43:03.giving way to more speed. Phil Burgess. James Davies. Counter

:43:04. > :43:18.rucking by New Zealand. They are back in possession. Gillies Kaka.

:43:19. > :43:26.Dan Bibby back. A warning against Dan Bibby. He has given away the

:43:27. > :43:31.penalty advantage. Advantage over. Sam Cross is on, another Welshman.

:43:32. > :43:45.Cross with the tackle. Cross is offside. Quickly taken. A second try

:43:46. > :43:54.for New Zealand. Regan Ware. Danger signs. Three minutes to go. Team GB

:43:55. > :44:03.making some changes and we lost our shape a bit there. New Zealand

:44:04. > :44:06.comeback. Good score by Regan Ware. No possession for Great Britain in

:44:07. > :44:18.this second half. New Zealand have hogged the ball and they are hogging

:44:19. > :44:24.the scoreboard. A wonderful kick. A wonderful kick by Gillies Kaka, who

:44:25. > :44:29.is one of their main players. They still need two scores to get ahead.

:44:30. > :44:37.The restart is key. They have to switch on. That was brilliantly

:44:38. > :44:39.taken by Lewis Ormond. New Zealand back in possession. Team GB cannot

:44:40. > :44:45.get their hands on the ball. It is going to be the try saving

:44:46. > :45:24.tackle by Marcus Watson. Free for all. Penalty to New

:45:25. > :45:32.Zealand. Never onside, says Craig Joubert. Team GB are really

:45:33. > :45:52.struggling here now. It is going to be Regan Ware for the line.

:45:53. > :46:00.If New Zealand are within striking distance. You have to hand it to

:46:01. > :46:05.this Kiwi team. Talk about a game of two halves. They have really come

:46:06. > :46:10.back strong. This is all going to be about the restarts. There is going

:46:11. > :46:20.to be one restarts left, one bit of possession. The conversion is good.

:46:21. > :46:34.Two points separate the teams. GB have not had their hands on the

:46:35. > :46:41.ball in the second half. The restart is everything. They must keep

:46:42. > :47:01.possession. They must hang the ball. The Scotsman is on, the hooter has

:47:02. > :47:09.gone. Get rid of it, yea! Wait for Craig Joubert's whistle. It goes,

:47:10. > :47:12.and Great Britain have beaten New Zealand. New Zealand have lost

:47:13. > :47:17.twice, but this is the one that counts for Great Britain because

:47:18. > :47:22.they have beaten the New Zealand All Blacks 21-19. Well done, the team.

:47:23. > :47:27.Obviously, they decided in the second half to test their defences.

:47:28. > :47:35.They didn't touch the ball the whole of the second half. Brilliant game.

:47:36. > :47:38.Well done, New Zealand, but what a win and what a disappointing couple

:47:39. > :47:44.of days for this New Zealand team, having now lost to Japan and Team

:47:45. > :47:51.GB. But three out of three for Team GB, brilliant. It means that New

:47:52. > :48:00.Zealand finish below Japan in the pool. So they qualify as a third

:48:01. > :48:04.placed team. On top of the pool, Team GB. We don't yet know who

:48:05. > :48:13.they're well played, but it could be Argentina, or which would be a

:48:14. > :48:18.mighty tough encounter. But the team have gone through to the finals

:48:19. > :48:26.unbeaten. Well done, Simon. A dejected looking Kiwi team. It was a

:48:27. > :48:30.huge task to bring the British team together in a short period of time.

:48:31. > :48:35.In all three games, they have really looked very polished. They have

:48:36. > :48:42.looked ready, prepared, fit. That is a huge win to roll over New Zealand.

:48:43. > :48:47.In terms of what happened in the second half, without the ball

:48:48. > :48:53.extending passages of play so that you are eating up the minutes, it's

:48:54. > :48:58.a protection of the lead, isn't it? They really well. To defend against

:48:59. > :49:08.a team that has the ball the whole time is going to be a huge effort.

:49:09. > :49:14.That captain has to rally the team now. They are third in pool C. He

:49:15. > :49:19.has been in charge of the team for 22 years, so it has been a tough

:49:20. > :49:22.Olympic Games for him, but this team will still go through to the

:49:23. > :49:28.quarterfinals. And it doesn't matter who you are, you don't want to be

:49:29. > :49:31.playing New Zealand. The assistant coach gathers the team around. Keep

:49:32. > :49:43.concentrating, don't get carried away with this. There are rounds to

:49:44. > :49:47.go. Quarterfinal later today. Semifinals and final tomorrow. The

:49:48. > :49:51.guys have to keep their heads now. The Olympic Games is about medals.

:49:52. > :49:56.It is not about beating New Zealand in pool games, as I have to go,

:49:57. > :49:59.great, job done. Now let's recover and look forward to the

:50:00. > :50:13.quarterfinals. We just have to keep our heads now and be confident. They

:50:14. > :50:21.have done pretty well so far. Worthy winners on top of this group. We are

:50:22. > :50:25.setting up here, John Inverdale, looking down on the head of the two

:50:26. > :50:30.huddles. What is it like at ground level?

:50:31. > :50:33.I am sitting next door to our broadcasting colleagues from New

:50:34. > :50:39.Zealand, who are not incandescent, but just cross with a capital C. A

:50:40. > :50:44.lot of questions will be asked of Steve Hansen, who has made no secret

:50:45. > :50:47.of his disregard for sevens. He actively discouraged some of the

:50:48. > :50:51.great All Blacks players from playing in this tournament. And

:50:52. > :50:59.obviously, on the world stage, if they go out, at the group stage,

:51:00. > :51:05.that is a massive humiliation on the international stage. Here are

:51:06. > :51:14.somebody who is through, Dan Bibby. How great was that you yeah, we said

:51:15. > :51:18.yesterday it was all about building. We have potentially a few games left

:51:19. > :51:24.now. It is knockout rugby, so we can only get better as the two days go

:51:25. > :51:30.on. It is all about building. Have you ever played in a game that was

:51:31. > :51:34.such a game of two halves? I have been to some games before, but that

:51:35. > :51:39.was a tough one. Did you touch the ball in the whole of the second

:51:40. > :51:45.half? I don't think so. But we stuck to our structure. No one panicked,

:51:46. > :51:49.we all stayed calm. We got into a huddle after the first half and

:51:50. > :51:53.that, nothing changes. We did not get the ball back, but we defended

:51:54. > :51:59.for our lives. That is the Team GB spirit. It is not clear who your

:52:00. > :52:03.opponents will be in the quarterfinals because a lot of

:52:04. > :52:08.mathematical permutations have to be sorted out. If it is Argentina, how

:52:09. > :52:13.would you view that? We take every game as it comes. No matter who we

:52:14. > :52:19.get it is knockout rugby. Everyone deserves to be in that quarterfinal.

:52:20. > :52:24.It is going to be tough, no matter who we get. Congratulations, Dan

:52:25. > :52:27.Bibby, and well done to the rest of the Great Britain team. You will be

:52:28. > :52:31.able to see the quarterfinals tonight on either BBC One or BBC

:52:32. > :52:35.Four. Ore, that was a bit nerve jangling towards the end, but

:52:36. > :52:39.obviously no doubt. The nerves jangled up here as well.

:52:40. > :52:44.Thank you and what an incredible result for the Great Britain team,

:52:45. > :52:47.beating the 12 time World Series champions New Zealand. Three wins

:52:48. > :52:52.out of three in the group. But the great British men will be wary,

:52:53. > :52:56.because their female counterparts did the same and came away with no

:52:57. > :53:00.medal in that tournament. There is still work to do for Great Britain's

:53:01. > :53:06.men in the quarterfinals. That will take place tonight. Now we are going

:53:07. > :53:08.to talk boxing, because Great Britain, in the bantamweight

:53:09. > :53:11.category for the men, they have some good pedigree here. Won by Luke

:53:12. > :53:16.Campbell in London 2012. Representing Great Britain this time

:53:17. > :53:21.is Qais Ashfaq, a Commonwealth silver medallist from 2014. He is a

:53:22. > :53:26.European silver medallist from 2015. Both times, he was beaten by

:53:27. > :53:29.Irishman Michael Conlon, who is also world champion in this category.

:53:30. > :53:33.Unfortunately for Qais Ashfaq, the draw has not been favourable because

:53:34. > :53:37.he could meet Michael Conlon again in the quarterfinal stage, which

:53:38. > :53:41.would be one away from a possible medal. It will be a tough encounter.

:53:42. > :53:44.He has a few rounds to do before he gets there, and Qais Ashfaq knows

:53:45. > :53:57.you have to take every fight as it comes.

:53:58. > :54:03.I didn't used to think about the boxing side, I just went to the gym

:54:04. > :54:06.to have a laugh. I liked the banter, being with the lads and having a

:54:07. > :54:12.good time. But when I started competing, you can't beat that

:54:13. > :54:23.winning feeling. It is second to none. I started boxing when I was

:54:24. > :54:28.eight. I had my first fight at 11. And to be fighting at the Olympics

:54:29. > :54:34.now, it has been a lot of work, but more than worth it. It means the

:54:35. > :54:40.world. It is all I have trained for since I started boxing. The little

:54:41. > :54:46.sacrifices like missing birthdays, weddings, I get a lot of stick for

:54:47. > :54:51.it at home. It just comes with the territory. You have to sacrifice

:54:52. > :54:55.what you want for the greatness. I have always been very religious, and

:54:56. > :55:02.I have always believed that the man upstairs was behind me and looking

:55:03. > :55:06.out for me. I promised my mother that if I qualify for the Olympics,

:55:07. > :55:11.I would go on the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia with her. So, for the

:55:12. > :55:15.next and rang them up and they booked my flight. I had a bit of

:55:16. > :55:22.time in Saudi Arabia with my family. The Hajj is a bigger version, but

:55:23. > :55:35.the umra is a part of it that you can do any time of year. It was an

:55:36. > :55:37.amazing experience. My category is probably the toughest, but am more

:55:38. > :55:44.than capable of beating everyone there. I don't go for anything

:55:45. > :55:53.except a gold medal. God willing, with a bit of luck, I can win that

:55:54. > :55:58.gold medal. Here's a friend of Amir Khan, Qais Ashfaq. Athens silver

:55:59. > :56:05.medallist, and I am sure he would love it if you come away from Rio

:56:06. > :56:11.with any kind of muddled. He has a first round bout against Chatchai

:56:12. > :56:17.Butdee, a member of the Thai army, and no. Will have a battle on his

:56:18. > :56:22.hands. Glasgow down to Riocentro Pavilion 6 and June it in the first

:56:23. > :56:27.round with our commentators Richie Woodhall and Ronald McIntosh.

:56:28. > :56:38.COMMENTATOR: So we are under way. This is action from the first

:56:39. > :56:43.preliminary round. Britain's Qais Ashfaq is ranked Number Ten in the

:56:44. > :56:47.world, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist and European Championship

:56:48. > :56:51.silver medallist. His opponent is ranked number seven in the world,

:56:52. > :57:00.the man in blue operating out of the southpaw stance, Butdee, competing

:57:01. > :57:04.in his second Olympic Games after finishing ninth place in London four

:57:05. > :57:10.years ago. Hugely experienced operator. This promises to be a

:57:11. > :57:15.contest of high skill between two very talented boxers. If you watch

:57:16. > :57:22.Butdee, he has a very wide stance. He falls short with his left hand.

:57:23. > :57:25.He is a bit too far away to go to the head, so you throw a one-two

:57:26. > :57:38.with that left hand, trying to hit the body. Ashfaq has to adjust his

:57:39. > :57:42.feet. Butdee always goes downstairs. A good white hand from Butdee as the

:57:43. > :57:48.two boxers came together. It has been a long wait for these men to

:57:49. > :57:54.get their Olympic campaign under way. This day of action. But now,

:57:55. > :58:02.they are finally contesting what they qualified for, pursuit of a

:58:03. > :58:10.podium place in the 56 kilograms bantamweight division. Plenty of

:58:11. > :58:14.thought behind this, each man looking for an opening. Plenty of

:58:15. > :58:23.patients being exhibited by both boxers. Ashfaq has to trigger his

:58:24. > :58:30.opponent. If you watch Butdee, he starts from a bit too far off. So

:58:31. > :58:36.Ashfaq could maybe throw a jab and then step back. Bring the opponent

:58:37. > :58:43.onto your punches. A bit of a head clash that, but Ashfaq has got to be

:58:44. > :58:48.more active with that jab. Bring the opponent onto that left hand. Both

:58:49. > :58:54.of these men qualified for this Olympic tournament via their

:58:55. > :59:04.continental Olympic qualification events. It was a silver medal finish

:59:05. > :59:09.in the European Olympic qualifications event in Turkey, but

:59:10. > :59:12.good enough to secure his place here at his first Olympic Games as he

:59:13. > :59:28.looks to add to his deal during medal collection. The ten second

:59:29. > :59:31.clapper has sounded. Points have been a precious commodity to come by

:59:32. > :59:41.during the course of that opening round. Plenty of posturing and

:59:42. > :59:49.feinting, but which way will the judges go?

:59:50. > :59:59.It is a fairly close round, no question. Butdee landing with a nice

:00:00. > :00:04.shot. Misses the target but Ashfaq had some success of his own. The

:00:05. > :00:08.last minute or so I thought was better for Qais Ashfaq. A little

:00:09. > :00:14.more positive with the jab. Let's have a look at the scores. Across

:00:15. > :00:29.the board for Butdee. So Ashfaq has two up the tempo a little bit.

:00:30. > :00:35.The man standing draped in the union Jack was Great Britain's

:00:36. > :00:42.superheavyweight, Frazer Clarke, here supporting the team. He is

:00:43. > :00:49.cheering on Qais Ashfaq. A real band of brothers and sisters in the

:00:50. > :00:55.sporting centre in Sheffield. The man from Leeds needs to respond

:00:56. > :00:59.here. Better start from Ashfaq on that front foot using that jab and

:01:00. > :01:03.he is throwing it from the waist so the punch is hard to detect. He has

:01:04. > :01:09.to keep it going and be more active. He has to be in and out with the

:01:10. > :01:12.feet. The first and third he has to do, first with the jab, then the

:01:13. > :01:23.feet. First and third boxing, Qais Ashfaq.

:01:24. > :01:30.That second phase attack from Butdee with the left hand was effective and

:01:31. > :01:35.it got through. He is up on his toes and peppering him with that right

:01:36. > :01:41.jab, looking to find the range. That jab, just keeping Butdee

:01:42. > :01:46.off-balance. It is a problem for Butdee when that jab is coming out

:01:47. > :01:51.from Ashfaq, he cannot launches attack. Better boxing from Ashfaq.

:01:52. > :01:54.He has to be more accurate with his left and particularly but keep this

:01:55. > :02:03.jab going, keep this fella off-balance. He has won multi

:02:04. > :02:07.national titles, both of them in their respective countries. Qais

:02:08. > :02:17.Ashfaq, four time British champion. Butdee is two time national champion

:02:18. > :02:23.of Thailand. He took titles in 2011 and 2008. That causes Ashfaq to go

:02:24. > :02:28.beyond punching distance. He has conceded the opening-round

:02:29. > :02:35.across-the-board. That is a cracking shot and down goes Ashfaq. He walked

:02:36. > :02:41.onto a shot, dipped his knees and he was forced to touch down. There was

:02:42. > :02:47.not a lot in the round but that swings it for Butdee. Ashfaq had a

:02:48. > :02:52.lack of concentration as his partner came forward. It was a good punch.

:02:53. > :02:59.Butdee following up with a good corkscrew right hand a few moments

:03:00. > :03:02.ago. It is worth repeating that. In Olympic type boxing, it is no longer

:03:03. > :03:11.called amateur boxing. Putting your man on the floor doesn't necessarily

:03:12. > :03:16.end in a ten round. Ashfaq need something dramatic in the remaining

:03:17. > :03:26.few seconds. There is the ten second clapper. What was previously a close

:03:27. > :03:30.round has been tilted in favour of the man in blue. Courtesy of that

:03:31. > :03:38.knock-down he scored. Walking Ashfaq onto that shot. A colourful crowd

:03:39. > :03:41.from Thailand. It is spot on, it was a close round up to that point and

:03:42. > :03:47.that may have just swayed it for that man. Left hand over the top as

:03:48. > :03:55.Butdee comes forward. Good shot indeed. That is a dip and sequence

:03:56. > :04:00.but that is one he scored so Ashfaq add to that point where he went

:04:01. > :04:07.down... It is a belting shop, a cracker. On the button and down he

:04:08. > :04:12.goes. He has recovered, he is a fit kid, but it has probably given the

:04:13. > :04:20.round to Butdee. Yes, across-the-board in favour of

:04:21. > :04:22.Chatchai Butdee. Ashfaq facing an uphill task in the third and final

:04:23. > :04:32.round. He needs a big one. After the third and final round and

:04:33. > :04:37.the status of this contest is the man wearing blue, seventh ranked

:04:38. > :04:40.boxer in the world, has taken the opening two rounds unanimously

:04:41. > :04:45.across-the-board. The second round was close but then he walked Qais

:04:46. > :04:50.Ashfaq onto a cracking southpaw left that forced the man in red to touch

:04:51. > :04:55.down, so Ashfaq is trailing, 20-18 for all three judges. He needs a

:04:56. > :05:01.massive round here just to get on terms and takers into the realm of

:05:02. > :05:05.count back. Or of course you can end the contest prematurely by forcing a

:05:06. > :05:11.stoppage. Those are his options, you need a big round. It is an all or

:05:12. > :05:16.nothing situation for Ashfaq. He has to go for it, take risks, go

:05:17. > :05:21.forward, what else can he do? He has to put this man under more pressure,

:05:22. > :05:26.go through the gears and raise the tempo. Otherwise he is going home.

:05:27. > :05:32.Another good start from Butdee, using his feet effectively to

:05:33. > :05:39.pirouette around Ashfaq. Ashfaq boxing at the tempo, it is like he's

:05:40. > :05:44.looking for single knockouts shot. It is not the same sustained

:05:45. > :05:50.pressure. It looks as though that is where he is putting... That is the

:05:51. > :05:55.type of strategy he is adopting in this round. Because this type of

:05:56. > :06:00.tempo is suiting the man in blue down to the ground. Butdee can

:06:01. > :06:03.afford to lose around and he will still go through to the second

:06:04. > :06:07.preliminary round on a unanimous points decision by virtue of having

:06:08. > :06:16.that two rounds of assurance in the bank. Ashfaq is the southpaw and the

:06:17. > :06:21.southpaw orthodox situation, it always seems to prove very difficult

:06:22. > :06:25.for the orthodox man but here there are two southpaws and that

:06:26. > :06:29.awkwardness has gone. It is a level playing field if you like. He has

:06:30. > :06:33.just come off second best with that left-hand especially over the top

:06:34. > :06:36.from Butdee. Ashfaq occasionally dropping that right hand a little

:06:37. > :06:45.too much and he has walked onto a couple of big shots. He has a

:06:46. > :06:52.mountain to climb now. Qais Ashfaq, boxing club in Leeds. He's coached

:06:53. > :06:57.by the father of his great Britain team-mate. He has to find something

:06:58. > :07:05.spectacular, he needs the punch of a lifetime. Given the status of the

:07:06. > :07:11.scorecard coming into this final round, it is the last chance Qais

:07:12. > :07:14.Ashfaq finds himself in. He has to find a knock-down as the second

:07:15. > :07:21.continue to lapse. It could all hinge on that shot. If he had won

:07:22. > :07:25.the second round, it would all be on the last round. But that single shot

:07:26. > :07:34.turned it for Butdee and gave it to him. Chatchai Butdee raises his arm

:07:35. > :07:39.immediately. The two time Olympian Chatchai Butdee has just produced a

:07:40. > :07:44.performance that will progress him through to the second round of the

:07:45. > :07:49.56 kilograms and to my tournament. There is that southpaw left and he

:07:50. > :07:54.used his feet to good effect. That knock-down in the second round, is

:07:55. > :08:01.usually significant. It was indeed and he got caught with a couple of

:08:02. > :08:07.good shots from body. -- Butdee. His crowd are loving it. Good

:08:08. > :08:11.performance from the man in blue. Qais Ashfaq needed that second

:08:12. > :08:17.round. That was the round when he had to get all the judges' scores

:08:18. > :08:23.but that knock-down turned it. Once he was behind in the second round,

:08:24. > :08:26.there was a mountain to climb. Let her down to the public address

:08:27. > :08:34.announcer and get the official verdict. The conclusion of that 56

:08:35. > :08:44.kilograms banter -- bantamweight contest. ANNOUNCER: Ladies and

:08:45. > :08:51.gentlemen, the winner by unanimous decision...

:08:52. > :09:02.In the blue, Chatchai Butdee. Confirmation of what was widely

:09:03. > :09:06.anticipated and the conclusion of that third and final round. Chatchai

:09:07. > :09:10.Butdee, seventh ranked boxer in the world, goes through to the second

:09:11. > :09:15.round of the bantamweight tournament at the expense of Qais Ashfaq of

:09:16. > :09:20.Great Britain, the reigning European champion ship silver-medallist. Also

:09:21. > :09:25.European games bronze-medallist. He will not add Olympic hardware to his

:09:26. > :09:29.collection. He is eliminated. You would have done your research on

:09:30. > :09:36.this opponent, was he not what you expected? I have sparred with him

:09:37. > :09:41.for a few rounds and I knew he was a top kid. One of the top-rated boxes

:09:42. > :09:47.in the world. A lot more experience than me. He has been to a couple of

:09:48. > :09:54.Olympics now. I couldn't get myself going today. I know I am up there at

:09:55. > :10:00.the top and I know I can beat kids like that my day but today was in my

:10:01. > :10:06.day. The second round, a blistering left shot over the top, how much did

:10:07. > :10:11.that rocky? I was thinking, did he even hit me there? He hit me with a

:10:12. > :10:16.shot to get me wrong, but it was more of a posh that put me down,

:10:17. > :10:23.rather than the shot. It was a good kid, he is a good, strong kid, but I

:10:24. > :10:29.guess he has that bit more maturity. He is still young, still a baby and

:10:30. > :10:38.I guess he was a bit more mature than me. What next to you? I will

:10:39. > :10:45.figure out what I want to do. Maybe see next Olympics or maybe turn pro.

:10:46. > :10:51.Real disappointment for Qais Ashfaq. We were in Doha at the end of last

:10:52. > :10:57.year when he went out in the first round and another first round exit

:10:58. > :11:01.here at the Olympic Games. Qais Ashfaq, high hopes for this fella

:11:02. > :11:07.but I'm sure he will come again in the next competition. Let's bring

:11:08. > :11:10.you some action from the men's road race time trial. Some British

:11:11. > :11:22.interest in this one. The gold medal, though, went to Fabian

:11:23. > :11:31.Cancellara in Switzerland. He has come back to win it again. He came

:11:32. > :11:36.ahead of Tom Dumoulin of the Netherlands. Chris Froome came

:11:37. > :11:40.third, matching the medal he won in London 2012. Not a bad summer for

:11:41. > :11:50.Great Britain's Tom Froome -- Chris Froome. A third place, bronze medal

:11:51. > :11:54.in the men's time trial. Possibly not the result he would have wanted.

:11:55. > :11:58.He might well be pleased he will be on the podium at least. Watching it

:11:59. > :12:03.all was Jill Douglas alongside Chris Boardman. That brings the road

:12:04. > :12:07.element of the cycling to a close at the Rio Olympics on a rather

:12:08. > :12:16.blustery and wet day. We have thing two remarkable champions in action.

:12:17. > :12:20.The great Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland winning the gold medal

:12:21. > :12:24.and great to see the reaction of the crowd, to see a champion like him

:12:25. > :12:30.win a gold medal in his final year of the competition. Fabian

:12:31. > :12:35.Cancellara's ride was quite surprising after his season. We saw

:12:36. > :12:39.some glimmers in the road race but that kind of experience and

:12:40. > :12:46.background, you can never write him off. Fantastic way to wind up his

:12:47. > :12:50.career. Armitstead, the same, already retired twice, what a

:12:51. > :12:55.fantastic ride by hair. Emma Pooley, disappointed in the time trial. It

:12:56. > :12:59.wasn't her day, she gave it everything and it wasn't her day.

:13:00. > :13:06.Chris Froome managed to get the bronze medal as he did in London.

:13:07. > :13:11.And he had to fight for it. He did spend three weeks winning the Tour

:13:12. > :13:17.de France. He was in great... He worked hard and is in great shape

:13:18. > :13:22.but some edge had gone. Thank you. Thank you to Jill and Chris and next

:13:23. > :13:26.event, heading off to the velodrome for the track cycling, at the other

:13:27. > :13:32.end of the park. Good to see them with us on the Olympic Park. Behind

:13:33. > :13:37.me is the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre. More action for Great Britain, two

:13:38. > :13:43.silvers won yesterday and also Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, individual

:13:44. > :13:47.medley and 200 metres to come as well. Hopefully, more medals to come

:13:48. > :13:54.in the equestrian because today, the first round of the dressage. In

:13:55. > :13:58.2012, Great Britain won two gold medals in the individual and team.

:13:59. > :14:02.Before we head to the national Equestrian Centre and the Diadora,

:14:03. > :14:10.let's see exactly what it is they do so well.

:14:11. > :14:16.Equestrian is the only Olympic sport where both men and women compete on

:14:17. > :14:24.equal terms. Dressage falls into that category. Just such -- dressage

:14:25. > :14:28.is where it is a rider performs with a horse to music. It requires a

:14:29. > :14:34.rider to have total control of the horse. This is achieved through the

:14:35. > :14:40.rider's legs, seat and hands as they control direction, movement and

:14:41. > :14:43.speed. The horse's obedience, flexibility and harmony with the

:14:44. > :14:50.athlete are evaluated and marked by the judges. Dressage is about

:14:51. > :14:55.mastery of moves in trot and canter, and it gets the rider and horse the

:14:56. > :14:59.necessary points required to progress in the competition. Complex

:15:00. > :15:03.moves such as the half path in which the horse moves elegantly forward

:15:04. > :15:07.and sideways and pass large, a dynamic trot with a horse seen

:15:08. > :15:12.suspended in the air, all the play the skill and talent needed to

:15:13. > :15:15.impress the judges. There are three tests with all competitors taking

:15:16. > :15:21.part in the first test, the Grand Prix.

:15:22. > :15:27.The second test is the Grand Prix special, and the team with the best

:15:28. > :15:31.score after this wins the gold medal. The top 18 athletes of the

:15:32. > :15:35.end of this test progress to the final event, the Grand Prix

:15:36. > :15:40.freestyle, which will decide who wins the medals in the individual

:15:41. > :15:44.competition. It's the sportswear rider and horse

:15:45. > :15:49.are in perfect harmony. Let's go down to Deodoro, where we can join

:15:50. > :15:53.Lee McKenzie. We have four British riders in the team here, including a

:15:54. > :15:58.certain Charlotte Dujardin and double gold medallist from 2012.

:15:59. > :16:04.Give us an idea of what we can expect and hope for in this event?

:16:05. > :16:09.Yes, the focus of dressage now is on Charlotte Dujardin and Allegro,

:16:10. > :16:14.because as you said, this is a partnership. What is there left to

:16:15. > :16:16.say about Charlotte? She is the European and world champion. She

:16:17. > :16:25.owns every world record at the moment although she is not the world

:16:26. > :16:29.number one. So the result of competition here. She will be more

:16:30. > :16:37.nervous than maybe she has been at previous events, but she has kept

:16:38. > :16:42.Valegro really fresh for this event. We can't wait to see her. She is on

:16:43. > :16:47.tomorrow along with Carl Hester, the real stalwart of the richest team.

:16:48. > :16:52.You can't say enough about him because not only does he train

:16:53. > :16:56.Charlotte Dujardin, he also trains Fiona Bigwood, who goes later today,

:16:57. > :17:01.and Spencer Wilton, who has already done his test this morning. He is

:17:02. > :17:06.also the part owner of temp two and produced the horse Spencer was

:17:07. > :17:11.riding today, Supernovae. This is a quirky animal, a horse that get the

:17:12. > :17:16.hiccups when he is nervous, and he sleeps with a of hate, almost like a

:17:17. > :17:23.dummy or a security blanket. Today, this was Spence 's Olympic debut.

:17:24. > :17:27.Let's see how you got on. -- how he got on.

:17:28. > :17:39.COMMENTATOR: Hold your breath, cross your fingers. Spencer Wilton, with

:17:40. > :17:46.the 13-year-old Super Nova. A very nice entry. A square hole, meaning

:17:47. > :17:53.all four of the horse's legs are at each corner of his body, and the

:17:54. > :18:01.horse stays still while in Holt. Energetic move off into Trott.

:18:02. > :18:05.Moving on to the extended Trott were the horse should cover as much

:18:06. > :18:12.ground as possible. A little bit cautious for the first one, but the

:18:13. > :18:18.horse has so much natural energy and activity that it still will be

:18:19. > :18:24.getting a reasonably nice mark. Well, we can see the marks, 6.5 and

:18:25. > :18:30.seven for the entry, but then up we go. We have got our first eight in

:18:31. > :18:35.movement as well. This horse and rider, when they were selected,

:18:36. > :18:41.their big first test was at Hartpury in the last trial before coming

:18:42. > :18:45.here. And he got a 77%, his best ever mark. If he could get that

:18:46. > :18:49.again, that would be wonderful. He was really good there. I was

:18:50. > :19:02.actually judging him, so it was great to see. And Super Nova is

:19:03. > :19:09.quite sensitive horse and Spencer is a very good rider. It is really

:19:10. > :19:14.important for the judges. They are seeing the horse is nicely collected

:19:15. > :19:21.from the wider's and to the bit in a nice, soft way, which you can see

:19:22. > :19:28.here. A little bit slow in the transition. He could have done with

:19:29. > :19:32.having a bit more energy. A little bit cautious. I would have wanted to

:19:33. > :19:38.see more activity, and this horse can get a lot more active. To give

:19:39. > :19:42.you an idea back home, we have the marks as they are averaged for every

:19:43. > :20:04.movement. The current leader is the Spanish rider. He was at this stage

:20:05. > :20:11.on a 70.65, and where currently on a 72. This horse could have been a bit

:20:12. > :20:13.more relaxed in the extended walk. Now into the collected war, where

:20:14. > :20:17.the horse is more bunched up together. These are important

:20:18. > :20:25.because they are double scoring movements. And now into the

:20:26. > :20:30.transition to passage, which is one mark. Very nice. This is one of his

:20:31. > :20:40.party pieces. He can be nice and active with his legs. Spencer and

:20:41. > :20:50.the horse are starting to relax. That will score some nice marks. The

:20:51. > :21:02.judges are to see that the rhythm stays the same. You cannot have one

:21:03. > :21:10.leg doing more than the other. This Grand Prix, he has just had his only

:21:11. > :21:21.breeder, where it is an easy movement. The horse makes a flying

:21:22. > :21:27.change every second stride. Hopefully, you will be able to see

:21:28. > :21:33.the outline here. The horse is nicely uphill. The nose should be

:21:34. > :21:41.just on the vertical line. You can see Neville's ears really looking

:21:42. > :21:43.towards the end of the arena. Spencer is having to watch his ears

:21:44. > :21:56.to make sure he's not going spook. Into the camp are changes, where the

:21:57. > :21:58.horse makes a half past. And then the sideways movement and the hind

:21:59. > :22:22.change of leg. It is all action packed in this

:22:23. > :22:43.test. The judges are looking to see whether he straight. He has the

:22:44. > :22:52.horse in a very nice balance. First pirouette. A slight loss of energy

:22:53. > :23:01.and drive as he came out. Could have been a little straighter in that

:23:02. > :23:14.flying change. Survived through that pirouette. And getting an average of

:23:15. > :23:23.7.5 for those pirouettes. Now back to Trott, onto the home run. Spencer

:23:24. > :23:34.and the horse are starting to relax more. I think Spencer will be

:23:35. > :23:39.pleased with this, moan because the horse is starting to relax and now

:23:40. > :23:48.we are starting to see his quality coming out in this passage. Very

:23:49. > :23:55.active in a very good rhythm. He could stay a little straighter. He's

:23:56. > :24:04.slightly bringing his quarters of the centre line. The judges will see

:24:05. > :24:07.that. It is interesting how the judges see different things from

:24:08. > :24:20.their different positions in the arena. And to a nice halt. Well, if

:24:21. > :24:38.you could read that, that was well done. What an occasion for this man.

:24:39. > :24:44.Absolutely. He's done a great job. First rider to go. First rider to go

:24:45. > :24:50.for Britain, Spencer Wilton. Take us through those replays. Here we see

:24:51. > :24:55.where they horse is really crossing his legs, really coming off the

:24:56. > :24:59.floor. Then into the extended trot, and you can see a clear moment of

:25:00. > :25:33.suspension, where all the horse's legs off the floor at the same time.

:25:34. > :25:39.Spencer, not only the first Brit in the arena, but your first Olympic

:25:40. > :25:44.Games. I imagine you are pleased with that? I am. I would have loved

:25:45. > :25:47.to get a higher mark, but we had an unnerving moment at the beginning

:25:48. > :25:50.where he had a fright from one of the cameras. But considering that

:25:51. > :25:56.happened and considering it's our first Olympics and it's a fairly

:25:57. > :26:00.frightening looking arena, I am delighted. As the test went on, he

:26:01. > :26:06.seemed to settle into it. I imagine you relaxed as well. Were there many

:26:07. > :26:09.notes as you came in? He felt fantastic warming up and I felt in a

:26:10. > :26:13.really good place. I knew that when he comes into the arena, he goes a

:26:14. > :26:17.bit, my goodness, what's about to happen? And I think without that

:26:18. > :26:21.episode with the camera beforehand, it would have been a different

:26:22. > :26:25.story. But I am pleased, because as you said, we both settled into it

:26:26. > :26:31.and it got better as it went along. As long as it has given him

:26:32. > :26:35.confidence, that is all I am worried about. You have worked so hard to

:26:36. > :26:39.get this horse back after he has been plagued with injuries. It must

:26:40. > :26:42.be an emotional experience for the partnership you have made in the

:26:43. > :26:48.highs and lows to get your first Olympic Games together. Absolutely.

:26:49. > :26:52.It has been well documented that he has had injuries and he has a bit of

:26:53. > :27:01.a challenging temperament. He is not the bravest of horses. It has been a

:27:02. > :27:04.long journey, and there have been quite a few occasions when I have

:27:05. > :27:10.thought, is it worth it? But now I am here, I am glad I persevered.

:27:11. > :27:13.Congratulations. Well, he should be delighted he

:27:14. > :27:19.persevered, because at this stage, Spencer Wilton and his horse Super

:27:20. > :27:23.Nova are in control of the competition. But we are only halfway

:27:24. > :27:27.through the first day. The top riders will go tomorrow. We have

:27:28. > :27:33.another 15 horses to go this afternoon, and you can see all the

:27:34. > :27:36.action on the Red Button, online and on the BBC yap. Fiona Bigwood is our

:27:37. > :27:40.second British rider as she goes around 7.0 five.

:27:41. > :27:45.We look forward to it. Positive stuff for the GB guys down there at

:27:46. > :27:49.the Equestrian Centre. We look forward to seeing them hopefully

:27:50. > :27:54.pick up more momentum. We will stay at the Deodoro and go across the

:27:55. > :27:59.question to the hockey. The women are in action, bronze medallists

:28:00. > :28:01.from 2012, taking on the London Olympic silver medallists,

:28:02. > :28:05.Argentina. In the last year and a half, the GB women have had an

:28:06. > :28:09.up-and-down time. They had a really long unbeaten run in 2015 that saw

:28:10. > :28:14.them into the world league finals, but in the last six months, not so

:28:15. > :28:18.successful. The Champions Trophy, on home turf in London, they came fifth

:28:19. > :28:22.out of six teams. I caught up with the GB captain in the last couple of

:28:23. > :28:26.days, and she said she is hoping that now the GB team are back on

:28:27. > :28:31.their way up. Let's go down to the Hockey Centre. Rishi is standing by

:28:32. > :28:37.for this one. And we have got what is a repeat of the London 2012 Emmy

:28:38. > :28:42.final. To settle? We have indeed, Ore. We also have a tremendous

:28:43. > :28:46.atmosphere. The Argentine and British fans are making a wonderful

:28:47. > :28:51.atmosphere. Simon Mason is alongside me. It has been a bit lacking

:28:52. > :28:55.previously. Occasionally, the crowd have not got behind it, but

:28:56. > :29:00.Argentina have such an amazing support base. It is the biggest

:29:01. > :29:03.sport in Argentina and wherever they play, fantastic following. The

:29:04. > :29:08.British women have seduced us into thinking they are going to do well.

:29:09. > :29:13.They beat Australia in the opening match. What sort of test is the

:29:14. > :29:17.Argentine team going to provide? A huge one. There are a fantastic side

:29:18. > :29:22.and probably have the best individual skill set. Great Britain

:29:23. > :29:27.will have to make this a physical contest. Get them all moving, don't

:29:28. > :29:31.indulge and get into a contest. The way the British women approach the

:29:32. > :29:35.first game against Australia, they were really intense. Less intense

:29:36. > :29:39.against India. I spoke to Kate Richardson-Walsh after the India

:29:40. > :29:43.match and she said they felt they played to the style of Australia in

:29:44. > :29:46.the opening match and then the style of India. I guess there is a danger

:29:47. > :29:52.if they play to the style of the Argentinians. Yes, Dan Kerry will be

:29:53. > :29:56.desperate that they don't play to the style of the Argentinians. They

:29:57. > :30:02.have to show real wet and depth across the whole picture. Make

:30:03. > :30:10.Argentina run hard. The weather tournament has worked out, how

:30:11. > :30:14.important is a victory here? Obviously, how important is it for

:30:15. > :30:21.them in terms of the rankings and who they face later? I think it is

:30:22. > :30:25.important just for the momentum. They will not focus on the end

:30:26. > :30:28.result. They know a point is probably enough to secure the

:30:29. > :30:32.quarterfinals. Then you are just looking to get as high up the group

:30:33. > :30:35.as you can. So it is important, but not crucial. It is time we had up to

:30:36. > :30:41.the commentary box. part in the first test, the Grand

:30:42. > :30:53.Prix. , dew Argentina have lost three, won

:30:54. > :31:04.four and drawn two, so very similar in terms of standing. Argentina will

:31:05. > :31:14.put the ball out of play. They will take it quickly.

:31:15. > :31:33.Kate Richardson-Walsh with a good ball forward. Easily swept up. Good

:31:34. > :31:37.play by Argentina. That'll be an Argentina free hit. Deep inside

:31:38. > :31:53.their own half. Tracked by Ansley and Great Britain

:31:54. > :32:00.have possession. Trying to move this ball very quickly. Helen

:32:01. > :32:10.Richardson-Walsh. It is back in the possession of Argentina. You may be

:32:11. > :32:12.wondering what all the plastic is. It is a very great, cool and breezy

:32:13. > :32:30.day here. -- grey. There is a threat of rain

:32:31. > :32:35.so there will be some cover for the equipment if nothing else. Taking

:32:36. > :32:40.beautifully out of the air. Good running by Townsend. Great Britain

:32:41. > :32:43.starting this game well. They have predominantly been in possession the

:32:44. > :32:51.first couple of minutes. No attempt on goal as yet. Now maybe as they

:32:52. > :33:00.work towards the circle. Florencia Habif with a good block. Here is

:33:01. > :33:06.Unsworth. The ball forward was looking for Danson but it was wide.

:33:07. > :33:12.He will want to see his side take a little bit more control. But

:33:13. > :33:19.Argentina may have to ride out an early storm against a confident

:33:20. > :33:23.British side. Maybe now they have the opportunity. Granato running

:33:24. > :33:24.towards the corner flag. Could not control it long enough to make

:33:25. > :33:40.anything happen. Play on is the message. Great

:33:41. > :33:55.Britain are a bigger side. If it comes down to a physical

:33:56. > :34:02.battle, maybe that'll be the difference.

:34:03. > :34:08.As it did for Argentina against the USA, who are fond of running, a

:34:09. > :34:24.superfit side. Barrionuevo, good pass. Travelled 30

:34:25. > :34:31.or 40 metres. Rebecca Cooke and completely control it. She was

:34:32. > :34:35.muscled out of it. -- Rebecchi could not completely control it. Spinning

:34:36. > :34:48.away. Great Britain can go again, a whole

:34:49. > :35:13.raft of substitutions. Aimless pass from Barry. Two goals

:35:14. > :35:34.the other night. -- Barrionuevo. They get it forward, now an

:35:35. > :36:02.opportunity. Great chance for Delfina Merino.

:36:03. > :36:12.That very nearly brought a goal. So much space. And then she ran out of

:36:13. > :36:14.angle. Hinch did well, scrambling across the ground. Cut down the

:36:15. > :36:36.angle, making it very difficult. Very close to a good pastor Danson.

:36:37. > :37:02.Albert Tahir. -- Agustina Albertarrio.

:37:03. > :37:12.Argentina attack down the right side, that is a clever pass. Hinch

:37:13. > :37:20.was lurking. Great Britain win themselves a free

:37:21. > :37:32.hit. Townsend. Richardson-Walsh. Had a lot to say

:37:33. > :38:08.to the umpire. Habif with a quick ball forward and

:38:09. > :38:22.now Rebecchi can try to get forward but loses out in the tackle.

:38:23. > :38:24.Argentina penalised and Great Britain will try to move forward.

:38:25. > :38:43.Twigg. Try to move this one. Great Britain

:38:44. > :38:44.ball. Looking for options. Now this one moved in but everyone got out of

:38:45. > :39:07.the way. Looking for a deflection. Barrionuevo. Campoy sending it

:39:08. > :39:11.forward. This is good running. Albertario, one-handed, runs out of

:39:12. > :39:19.space and time. Screams that she should have been given a free hit.

:39:20. > :39:29.Or maybe even more. Just caressing the ball. There was contact.

:39:30. > :39:52.The pastor Bray was cut out. -- the pass to Braid. Albertario has been a

:39:53. > :40:02.threat so far in this game. Lots of good running. Argentina, put on the

:40:03. > :40:07.back foot early on, now coming into this game. They will have to deal

:40:08. > :40:19.with this. Good play from Great Britain. Run, run, run. Lily Owsley

:40:20. > :40:23.wasn't able to make the most of that in the end. The ball always

:40:24. > :40:44.seemingly running away from her. Shona McCallin. Richardson-Walsh.

:40:45. > :40:51.Nicely intercepted. Sprinting forward.

:40:52. > :41:15.It is still goalless. Merino get the post for Argentina a little earlier.

:41:16. > :41:20.After a lucky pass brought her through. Hinch doing just enough to

:41:21. > :41:27.force her wide. The chances have been few and far between. Two sides,

:41:28. > :41:34.two groups of players who know each other very well. There is not a

:41:35. > :41:46.great deal between them. Danson got a stick in there. White called back

:41:47. > :41:50.and Argentina move again. It takes a big deflection in there and it is a

:41:51. > :42:00.penalty corner. The first of the game. Argentina, as the ball went in

:42:01. > :42:11.here, deflects right up there. They all think there is a good

:42:12. > :42:38.chance here. Three options. Zuloaga, Barrionuevo

:42:39. > :42:42.and Rebecchi. Zuloaga, just wide. They are complaining and they will

:42:43. > :42:50.go for a referral. They want another short corner.

:42:51. > :43:18.Here is the referral. Argentina suggested there was a push in here.

:43:19. > :43:26.Zuloaga is the one who was most adamant. The bottom left of the

:43:27. > :43:35.screen. Was that a push? There was contact. Was it a push?

:43:36. > :43:45.Quite interesting. The two groups of players stand there. So, the

:43:46. > :43:56.decision made, it goes the way of Great Britain. And Argentina lose

:43:57. > :44:00.their referral early on in this one. So that was high risk from

:44:01. > :44:07.Argentina. They will hope that doesn't come back to bite them

:44:08. > :44:11.later. Argentina trying to work this one into the circle again. Great

:44:12. > :44:19.Britain haven't had possession for a while. Very good stick sills to take

:44:20. > :44:42.it in from Florencia Habif. Argentina press.

:44:43. > :45:03.They didn't look before trying to make the pass. Barrionuevo

:45:04. > :45:16.penalised, and then Great Britain penalised in

:45:17. > :45:35.turn. A bit of a tangle for Shona McCallin. On the rear, Barrionuevo.

:45:36. > :45:42.Good, surging run by Great Britain. They will get themselves a free hit

:45:43. > :45:56.here. That was really nice. The crowd

:45:57. > :46:14.appreciate it. Wonderful play from Argentina as

:46:15. > :46:50.they move the length of the field. Good defending by Great Britain, but

:46:51. > :46:59.penalised. Great Britain should be able to clear this away, but under a

:47:00. > :47:13.lot of pressure. They know the clock is counting down.

:47:14. > :47:24.The hooter sounds. That is the end of this first quarter. Look at these

:47:25. > :47:27.stick skills. In the air one-way, than the reverse stick. Three

:47:28. > :47:29.players beaten, and then set up the attack with the pass. Really was

:47:30. > :47:45.terrific. Fantastic first quarter of the

:47:46. > :47:50.match, and I guess that is more for Argentina. Great Britain will be

:47:51. > :47:56.happy not to have conceded, Simon? Indeed. Argentina had a fantastic

:47:57. > :47:59.chance. It came off the outside of the post, which was a real let off

:48:00. > :48:03.for Britain. And the Argentinian penalty corner, which was referred

:48:04. > :48:08.unsuccessfully, with a suggestion that that could have been upgraded.

:48:09. > :48:11.Why do you think Britain have struggled in the first quarter? Is

:48:12. > :48:17.it because they are not quite matching the sharpness of the

:48:18. > :48:20.Argentinians? The Argentinians have created difficulty for Great Britain

:48:21. > :48:24.to get a clean ball out from their back four. They are coming up the

:48:25. > :48:30.right-hand side nicely, but there and throw players behind the ball

:48:31. > :48:34.and Argentina have space decanter, which is when they dangerous. So how

:48:35. > :48:40.do Great Britain counteract that? Highball speed. Find a space and

:48:41. > :48:48.then possibly look to go left and then come right. Will Dani Karrubi

:48:49. > :48:55.be telling them this? Who are the players who will need that type of

:48:56. > :49:01.tactic? The more vocal players like Crista Cullen and Richardson wash.

:49:02. > :49:03.But they are all so experience that you would expect it to be a elective

:49:04. > :49:07.message coming from Danny Kerry which has to be executed by the

:49:08. > :49:11.whole group. There was a moment of magic from one of the Argentinian

:49:12. > :49:18.players, producing a wonderful bit of skill. Amazing, to dribble out of

:49:19. > :49:23.your own bottom left-hand corner. Outstanding skill and execution. You

:49:24. > :49:28.have to enjoy it, even if you are a bit GB biased. We go back to our

:49:29. > :49:32.commentary box now. COMMENTATOR: Early in the second

:49:33. > :49:44.period, Argentina are already getting forward with Rebecchi.

:49:45. > :49:56.Second period of four. 415 minute quarters in the modern game.

:49:57. > :50:00.Argentina had the lion's share of possession in that first period, Mel

:50:01. > :50:04.Clewlow. They have certainly come out with the intensity to get the

:50:05. > :50:09.three points on the board. It is a fantastic crowd as well. You could

:50:10. > :50:12.see in the warm-up, the GB girls were smiling. They are used to this

:50:13. > :50:38.and they will enjoy the atmosphere as much as the Argentina players.

:50:39. > :50:50.Great opportunity. Hannah MacLeod was sat perfectly on the baseline,

:50:51. > :50:57.which made Zuloaga unsure whether she should close Laura Unsworth down

:50:58. > :51:00.or stay with the player. For me today, it will be a battle of the

:51:01. > :51:22.goalkeepers. We have two brilliant ones on display today.

:51:23. > :51:32.Lily Owsley just needed to be stronger on the ball. She is a

:51:33. > :51:44.strong player. A much brighter start by GB in this second quarter. An

:51:45. > :51:49.extraordinary position for dance league -- Owsley. I have seen a

:51:50. > :51:52.couple of gentlemen here in all hats and dark suits and Union Jack ties,

:51:53. > :52:01.lots of blue and white from the fans. This is a big sport for

:52:02. > :52:02.Argentina, second only to football in terms of the amount of support it

:52:03. > :52:20.attracts. It is left to Sophie Bray to tidy

:52:21. > :52:25.things up. Sophie Bray has picked up a two-minute suspension for the

:52:26. > :52:29.stick tackle. Probably got away with one at the end of the first quarter.

:52:30. > :52:34.Two minutes on the naughty step for Sophie Bray. 11 versus ten for the

:52:35. > :52:40.next couple of minutes. Great Britain will be eager to maintain

:52:41. > :53:01.possession, at least during the suspension for Bray.

:53:02. > :53:18.Argentina have lots of momentum. I am trying to work out who is being

:53:19. > :53:22.shown a green card here. If it was Hannah MacLeod, she has been

:53:23. > :53:25.absolutely hard done by. That is the worst decision I have seen all

:53:26. > :53:32.tournament. MacLeod was shoved in the back and had to sit down for two

:53:33. > :53:41.minutes as a result. Argentina are two over now. 11 versus nine. Hannah

:53:42. > :53:55.MacLeod was not interfering with play. MacLeod and Bray are both in

:53:56. > :54:07.the sin bin. Here it is. Look, pushed over by her opponent and sent

:54:08. > :54:12.packing. Argentina still have two players extra.

:54:13. > :54:22.There are two sisters, Florencia Habif and Agustina Habif, on the

:54:23. > :54:29.field this afternoon. Difficulty tell them apart. -- to tell them

:54:30. > :54:42.apart. Brand MacLeod are still sitting it

:54:43. > :54:48.out. It can't be long until Bray is back on. Indeed, she has burst back

:54:49. > :54:55.onto the field. Just in time to get involved with the next defence for

:54:56. > :54:56.Great Britain. It has been a brighter start by Great Britain,

:54:57. > :55:23.looking to play the lines. These are the things that Great

:55:24. > :55:29.Britain need to concentrate on as much as they can. There just seemed

:55:30. > :55:36.to be an element of panic in the defence rather than being calm and

:55:37. > :55:45.composed on the ball. Great Britain get the decision this time. It is so

:55:46. > :55:49.tough playing Argentina, because like a lot of topsides, they like to

:55:50. > :55:54.put numbers around the ball and crowd you when you have got it. GB

:55:55. > :55:58.got it spot on against Australia in the first game, where they played a

:55:59. > :56:02.simple game. They got the ball and made simple passes. Here, it is the

:56:03. > :56:06.same. You need to have a cool head and play the ball into a

:56:07. > :56:19.multiplayer, but that player needs to know what to do with it next.

:56:20. > :56:26.Great Britain have been unbeaten in the tournament so far. 2-1 winners

:56:27. > :56:32.over Australia. 3-0 over India. The USA beat Argentina 2-1 and Argentina

:56:33. > :57:00.defeated Japan 4-0, so Great Britain have the better record so far.

:57:01. > :57:10.Another opportunity, and it is a penalty corner for Great Britain.

:57:11. > :57:14.Definitely a buzz about the team today. You can see they are up for

:57:15. > :57:23.this game, which were you would expect. They are playing the number

:57:24. > :57:26.two team in the world. Great Britain's first corner of the game,

:57:27. > :57:31.and it is a fantastic opportunity for them to register on the

:57:32. > :57:37.scoreboard. The Argentinian defence are getting their head guards, face

:57:38. > :57:42.masks and padding on. Great Britain's hockey supporters are

:57:43. > :57:45.sensing an opportunity here. Kate Richardson-Walsh is lined up. Crista

:57:46. > :57:54.Cullen is poised to have a pop at this. It's a goal for Great Britain!

:57:55. > :58:04.It came off the stick of Richardson wash. -- Richardson wash. What a

:58:05. > :58:09.fantastic goal. That is something Britain go to when the pressure is

:58:10. > :58:15.on. Brilliant delivery by Kate Richardson-Walsh to drag the ball on

:58:16. > :58:24.the floor. Belen Succi goes to ground to take the initial flip.

:58:25. > :58:29.Fantastic touch. 1-0 to Great Britain. It is all about making your

:58:30. > :58:32.opportunities count and Helen Richardson-Walsh has scored two

:58:33. > :58:38.against Argentina in the Champions Trophy in June. She has added to

:58:39. > :58:47.that today. First goal of the Olympic tournament for Helen

:58:48. > :58:56.Richardson-Walsh. Midway through the second period. I expect a raising of

:58:57. > :59:10.tempo from Argentina as they hope to strike back quickly.

:59:11. > :59:47.One thing that Great Britain is the right, as we see with the guys in

:59:48. > :59:53.the bowler hats, the one thing they get right is their team defence.

:59:54. > :59:57.They have only conceded one goal in two matches so far, and they are a

:59:58. > :00:01.tough side to break down when they are in that particular form. When

:00:02. > :00:02.Maddie Hinch is in the form she was in against Australia, it becomes

:00:03. > :00:15.quite an uphill task. Hollie Webb has just come on for

:00:16. > :00:20.Great Britain, number 20, going into midfield. Webb picks it up, Cullen

:00:21. > :00:26.over to the right, forward to Townsend, she gets a nice run of the

:00:27. > :00:34.ball, tries to drag it back and that is close. A shot and it is Helen

:00:35. > :00:44.Richardson-Walsh! She has scored twice and it is 2-0! Unbelievable

:00:45. > :00:48.quarter for Great Britain so far. Helen Richardson-Walsh doubles Great

:00:49. > :00:53.Britain's score and her own tally for the game. Fantastic play by

:00:54. > :00:58.Susannah Townsend to ride through a couple of tackles, then the delivery

:00:59. > :01:03.from Crista Cullen, it was a poor clearance from Succi and Helen

:01:04. > :01:07.Richardson-Walsh is not going to miss from there. 2-0, a fantastic

:01:08. > :01:22.start by the girls. There is a rarity! Almost broke into

:01:23. > :01:27.a smile! One thing Danny Kerry is very good at, tactically he gets

:01:28. > :01:30.things spot on. He was disappointed with the India game last night I did

:01:31. > :01:36.not field the team played particularly well all to his game

:01:37. > :01:43.plan but so far he is to be pretty chuffed. And having tried to prevent

:01:44. > :01:48.himself from smiling, he did not give it up! Two goals from Helen

:01:49. > :01:52.Richardson-Walsh and two goals for recruiting with five minutes until

:01:53. > :01:57.half-time. Argentina looking for a way through, this could be trouble,

:01:58. > :02:05.and Argentina get the penalty corner. We have got a game in our

:02:06. > :02:11.hands here. Argentina with their backs against the wall and it was

:02:12. > :02:15.Sanchez who flicked it at goal. Crista Cullen thought about

:02:16. > :02:20.questioning if the ball was high or not but it wasn't so a good decision

:02:21. > :02:25.not to go for the video referral. But Argentina have their favourite

:02:26. > :02:28.at the top of the circle in Carla Rebecchi and Noel Barrionuevo who

:02:29. > :02:40.scored two the other night against Japan. Agustina Habif will inject.

:02:41. > :02:44.Barrionuevo is poised. Good save from Maddie Hinch! Another chance,

:02:45. > :02:52.there will be another penalty corner.

:02:53. > :02:58.I don't think Carla Rebecchi really got hold of that corner as she would

:02:59. > :03:02.have wanted to. We have seen her put them in the roof of the net. Great

:03:03. > :03:08.save from Maddie Hinch, nothing she could do about the stick onto

:03:09. > :03:14.Campoy's head, I think that was what it was given four. Campoy got a

:03:15. > :03:20.serious blow to the top of the head, that is going to hurt. Rebecchi

:03:21. > :03:29.might get another chance unless they switch it. Saved again, a swing and

:03:30. > :03:37.a miss from Argentina and Great Britain clear the danger. They opted

:03:38. > :03:40.for the change and went to Barrionuevo's Castle but straight

:03:41. > :03:47.down the middle and Maddie Hinch was never letting that one in. The

:03:48. > :03:51.Argentinian supporters have gone strangely quiet at the moment and

:03:52. > :03:55.the only noise is from the British fans. Great Britain still deep in

:03:56. > :04:11.their own territory defending. Hannah Macleod took that on the shin

:04:12. > :04:16.pad, she is OK. That is August in Albertario -- Agustina Albertario.

:04:17. > :04:26.That has been poached by Alex Danson and she has got Owsley ahead of her.

:04:27. > :04:30.She holds it up. I felt Alex Danson could have released the ball to Lily

:04:31. > :04:35.Elsie a split-second earlier because Owsley is so quick and has so much

:04:36. > :04:43.pace -- Lily Owsley. I don't think Habif would have been able to keep

:04:44. > :04:47.up with her. Good work getting out of trouble, Granatto to the edge of

:04:48. > :04:51.the circle and then she is surrounded by red shirts. Maddie

:04:52. > :04:57.Hinch could not take a chance with that. It was a solid clearance from

:04:58. > :05:02.the Great Britain goalkeeper. She did well to keep the ball on the

:05:03. > :05:08.floor. No opportunity for Argentina to ask for the penalty corner. Three

:05:09. > :05:17.minutes until half-time, Great Britain 2-0 Argentina.

:05:18. > :05:23.Townsend trying to go round her opponent and they are appealing but

:05:24. > :05:30.they had to get back to defending. It is three against three and it is

:05:31. > :05:36.clear. A poor cross from Argentina. Now down the right flank at speed.

:05:37. > :05:39.Owsley wants the ball. Look at the stick work. In full flow, a joy to

:05:40. > :05:56.watch. Yellow card for Susannah Townsend.

:05:57. > :05:59.No... Noel Barrionuevo. Townsend was being substituted. I think

:06:00. > :06:04.Barrionuevo has been done for the stick tackle on Owsley coming

:06:05. > :06:07.forward. She needs to hurry up and sit on the chair because her five

:06:08. > :06:17.minutes will not start until she actually sits down. It starts now.

:06:18. > :06:20.Barrionuevo needs to hurry up a bit. Meanwhile, the free hit will be

:06:21. > :06:28.retaken for Great Britain. Shona McCallin on the field now. Sam Quek

:06:29. > :06:36.just behind her. McCallin takes it on, nice little shuffle and then her

:06:37. > :06:41.cross is a little short. I just hope that yellow card will not be a sign

:06:42. > :06:46.of things to come. I didn't feel it was a yellow card. I know there has

:06:47. > :06:51.been a green card given to a British player beforehand. This was the

:06:52. > :06:55.stick tackle. I just hope at half-time the umpires have a little

:06:56. > :07:00.breather, let's not ruin a really good game of hockey by brandishing

:07:01. > :07:08.cards. Nice pass from Brady, just cut out before it got to Macleod. --

:07:09. > :07:23.from Bray. Argentina will get a free hit.

:07:24. > :07:30.McCallin did really well to battle for possession, Macleod joining in

:07:31. > :07:34.as well. The Argentinians, when they have got the bit between their

:07:35. > :07:40.teeth, are tough to stop. Here they come again down the right flank,

:07:41. > :07:42.good work from Sanchez, into the circle, passed everybody. And out of

:07:43. > :07:53.danger. They are just going to take their

:07:54. > :07:59.time now and hopefully go into half-time with the 2-0 lead.

:08:00. > :08:03.Barrionuevo will be off for probably the first three minutes of the third

:08:04. > :08:07.quarter. Great Britain still with the numerical advantage as we hit

:08:08. > :08:16.the final 15 seconds of the first half. Argentina still sense there is

:08:17. > :08:20.time to take the free hit and maybe put some pressure on but the hooter

:08:21. > :08:30.will sound before they get anywhere near Maddie Hinch's goal. And

:08:31. > :08:33.half-time arrives here on pitch to at the Diadora Hockey Centre and

:08:34. > :08:40.what a half with two goals from Helen Richardson-Walsh -- Deodoro.

:08:41. > :08:47.2-0 to Great Britain at half-time. An excellent half, made all the more

:08:48. > :08:54.enjoyable with Great Britain leading and have having weathered the storm,

:08:55. > :08:57.how good was that? For all the Argentinian skills, Great Britain

:08:58. > :09:00.played to their strengths, they brought the physicality and a great

:09:01. > :09:07.penalty corner routine followed by a bit of poor book-keeping to allow a

:09:08. > :09:11.second. Deserving of the lead? -- goalkeeping. Absolutely, they have

:09:12. > :09:14.shut the door when they needed to and taken their chances. At

:09:15. > :09:17.half-time, things are looking good for the Great Britain women and

:09:18. > :09:24.we're keeping our fingers crossed for second half. Indeed we are. We

:09:25. > :09:29.will see if Great Britain can maintain their 100% record in their

:09:30. > :09:33.group shortly when we will be back to the hockey shortly. Before we do,

:09:34. > :09:37.we have time to talk a bit of table tennis and if you were with us

:09:38. > :09:42.earlier, we were talking about how dominant China have been in this

:09:43. > :09:47.sport. If you were not aware, 24 of the available 28 gold medals in the

:09:48. > :09:51.history of Olympic table tennis and the women's singles reigning

:09:52. > :10:02.champion is on course to defend her title here in Rio.

:10:03. > :10:13.It was 4-0 to the defending champion, Moccia. And she could meet

:10:14. > :10:20.the woman that she beat four years ago in London because next up is the

:10:21. > :10:28.second semifinal. Ding Ning of Chanut taking on Kim Song of the

:10:29. > :10:47.peoples Republic of Korea. We join it in the second game at 2-2.

:10:48. > :11:54.Very good grip serving with the red side. She gets a lot of spin. Expect

:11:55. > :12:07.a hard serve to return. Good control over it. And she has control now.

:12:08. > :12:10.Now we see that serve coming back from Ding Ning and it sat up at a

:12:11. > :12:56.good height. What a compelling rally, every

:12:57. > :13:00.single type of shot. Table tennis at its best. A wonderful open forehand

:13:01. > :13:40.right down the table by Kim Song I. She can't afford any lose points

:13:41. > :13:41.like that. Attempting to take a game off the top seed in this

:13:42. > :14:18.competition. The world number two is pulling

:14:19. > :14:38.back. Too delicate touch, did not have

:14:39. > :15:00.control. Level again. A tight finish coming

:15:01. > :15:49.up to the second game. Player ranked number 50 who is

:15:50. > :16:21.inching ahead, once more. Beautifully played! Gets a bit of

:16:22. > :16:26.fortune during the point. Two game points now for Kim Song I to draw

:16:27. > :17:12.level. Still on that server, it's tough to

:17:13. > :17:26.predict and defend against. -- serve. One more game... Converted

:17:27. > :17:31.that time. The match draws level. ORE: That is against the form but,

:17:32. > :17:37.isn't it? Kim Song I pulls it back to draw 1-1

:17:38. > :17:38.in the Women's Singles semifinal against the 2012 runner-up, Ding

:17:39. > :17:43.Ning. We will be back for the conclusion

:17:44. > :17:47.of that match in a few moments time, first we had to get back to Deodoro,

:17:48. > :17:52.we have a really good match in the women's competition.

:17:53. > :18:03.In the hockey, Team GB lead Argentina by 2-0. Let's get back

:18:04. > :18:10.down to Rishi, my fingers are still crossed! Mine are too, or they won't

:18:11. > :18:15.be uncrossed until we go past the finish line.

:18:16. > :18:19.Simon Mason is with me. What do they have to do for the rest of the match

:18:20. > :18:23.here? They just have to keep doing the same things, is that what you

:18:24. > :18:27.will tell me for the second half? In principle you are right but it is

:18:28. > :18:31.the mental approach, doing the same things requires mental strength.

:18:32. > :18:38.Britain had to execute the plan perfectly, if they carried the ball

:18:39. > :18:41.into trouble or congestion, they will be on the counterattack. The

:18:42. > :18:48.third period of play, let's go over to the commentary box and join Matt

:18:49. > :18:57.Chilton and Mel Clewlow. COMMENTATOR: 2-0 to Great Britain.

:18:58. > :19:00.Argentina are in blue and white stripes, heading to the goal to our

:19:01. > :19:13.right. The early attack coming from the Argentinian towards the circle.

:19:14. > :19:20.Marie Hinch might get busy here -- Maddie Hinch. A good save off her

:19:21. > :19:31.left glove, after that attempt from Carla Rebecchi. Argentina with the

:19:32. > :19:33.first shot of the second half. Sam Quek comes clear, but her past

:19:34. > :19:52.to Sophie Bray was inaccurate. Argentina switching flanks here. And

:19:53. > :19:58.aerial ball. Into the circle. Flashed across in front of both

:19:59. > :20:05.Maddie Hinch, the GB goalkeeper, and Argentinian attacker, this was

:20:06. > :20:10.close, not far from the outstretched stick. This is Carla Rebecchi's

:20:11. > :20:17.first opportunity, looking to go near post against Maddie Hinch. 12

:20:18. > :20:20.shots saved from 13, you cannot argue with that. Great Britain have

:20:21. > :20:25.only conceded one goal in the tournament and are looking to score

:20:26. > :20:34.a third in this game against Argentina, with a nice run from

:20:35. > :20:38.Susannah Townsend. Argentinian supporters away to our left, all

:20:39. > :20:42.around this ground, trying to get behind their team. They could do

:20:43. > :20:50.with encouragement from the stands... Somewhat sub Jude since

:20:51. > :20:56.Heather Richardson-Walsh scored two in the first half -- subdued.

:20:57. > :21:00.Both goals coming in the second quarter. You have no idea of the

:21:01. > :21:04.mental boost it will give Team GB, when they heard the national anthem

:21:05. > :21:09.as they walked out, Argentina were really proud and vocal, those two

:21:10. > :21:11.goals from Helen Richardson-Walsh in the second quarter have really

:21:12. > :21:15.silenced the crowd. I would definitely have given these

:21:16. > :21:22.girls the massive boost that they will need for the remainder of the

:21:23. > :21:32.game. -- that would. Argentina surging forward to get

:21:33. > :21:35.into the circle. Helen Richardson-Walsh, the scorer of

:21:36. > :21:40.Great Britain's goals, tightening up in the defence there.

:21:41. > :21:50.A moment of respite. Crista Cullen steps forward.

:21:51. > :21:53.Bouncing over Argentina, and sadly beyond Alex Danson for Great

:21:54. > :22:01.Britain. Barrionuevo slings the ball back

:22:02. > :22:08.along the field. It is a game which, from Team GB's perspective, don't do

:22:09. > :22:11.anything silly and just concentrate. Argentina had to come out and look

:22:12. > :22:15.for the goals if they want to get anything in the match, it plays into

:22:16. > :22:19.the hands of Lily Owsley, Susannah Townsend, the speed that this team

:22:20. > :22:21.has an better fitness levels, they fight so hard over the last 3.5-4

:22:22. > :22:28.years. Sudden burst of speed for Argentina

:22:29. > :22:33.as they appeal for the penalty corner and Sam Quek with a brave

:22:34. > :22:42.dive to defend. That is called self-preservation. The ball in from

:22:43. > :22:49.Sanchez is lifted. Argentina supporters looking tense as Great

:22:50. > :22:52.Britain burst through. On a solo run, that is just wide from

:22:53. > :22:58.Alexandra Danson. What we were talking about was the speed,

:22:59. > :23:01.Susannah Townsend makes the break. Alex Danson does exactly what you

:23:02. > :23:07.would want, hit the ball across the goal. Looking for the bottom corner,

:23:08. > :23:10.Hannah Macleod could not quite get on the far post.

:23:11. > :23:22.Just wide of balance e.g., no opportunity from her kicker. --

:23:23. > :23:34.Belen Succi. A good opportunity for Argentina, and Argentina and third

:23:35. > :23:39.on the ball. This is good from Jose Granatto, she is a prospect for the

:23:40. > :23:46.future, she has already won player of the tournament awards. Danson

:23:47. > :23:51.takes up an attacking position in the circle now.

:23:52. > :23:55.Claims that there was a foot, and the claim is confirmed by the

:23:56. > :24:00.umpire. It will be a Great Britain penalty corner. I'm not convinced it

:24:01. > :24:03.was, I think it could have been her stick but unfortunately they lost

:24:04. > :24:12.the referral in the first period and are paying the price.

:24:13. > :24:19.Ball here from Georgie Twigg, glove on there, I don't know why she is

:24:20. > :24:22.complaining. Georgie Twigg steps up to inject the

:24:23. > :24:40.penalty corner. Crista Cullen is waiting. Here is

:24:41. > :24:44.the injection, the trap. Unsworth has a swipe, a swing and a

:24:45. > :24:54.miss from Cologne, and it is wide from Lily Owsley. -- Crista Cullen.

:24:55. > :24:59.We saw that double switch the other day. The dummy from Crista Cullen,

:25:00. > :25:04.but Jose Granatto Reddit really well. Crista Cullen would want that

:25:05. > :25:13.opportunity again, I would imagine. It was a swing and a miss instead.

:25:14. > :25:18.-- read it really well. Crista Cullen looks for the quick

:25:19. > :25:25.restart. The breezes picking up. Moisture in the air, rain may not be

:25:26. > :25:41.far away, we feel some spots coming down... Hannah Macleod on the right

:25:42. > :25:46.for Great Britain. We are out in the open here, a la commentary position

:25:47. > :25:48.is being rapidly covered by a sheet of plastic. -- our commentary. Basic

:25:49. > :26:07.but it will do the job! A good run from Townsend, Townsend

:26:08. > :26:12.with the backhand attempt. A scrubland front of the goal... Can

:26:13. > :26:15.they find their way past! WHISTLE Crista Cullen with the final touch,

:26:16. > :26:21.I think. We had to look at the replay. All

:26:22. > :26:29.sorts of Great Britain sticks all over the ball. I'm not 100% certain

:26:30. > :26:34.who put the ball in. All sorts of discussions between the Argentina

:26:35. > :26:39.players and the umpires. Townsend... I think they are asking for the

:26:40. > :26:46.umpire to use her own referral. It is a scooped ball in. Sophie Bray I

:26:47. > :26:56.think is the one with the final touch. Yes. She lifts the ball over

:26:57. > :27:02.Jose Granatto, the goal stands. Sophie Bray squeezes it between the

:27:03. > :27:06.keeper and the post. Great Britain 3-0 Argentina.

:27:07. > :27:09.Eight minutes to go in the third quarter... Someone stick has

:27:10. > :27:21.shattered partly, or dealer and eight it. -- or the laminate has

:27:22. > :27:26.come off. Argentina feel like every decision

:27:27. > :27:30.is going against them at the moment. They are not used to being in this

:27:31. > :27:35.situation, never mind three goals down, they are not used to being

:27:36. > :27:38.behind. Two goals from Helen Richardson-Walsh. One from Sophie

:27:39. > :27:46.Bray. Redbridge and 3-0 Argentina. --

:27:47. > :27:50.Great Britain. The players in blue and white will

:27:51. > :27:55.want to get a foothold in this match. Probably 70% of the hockey

:27:56. > :28:01.fans in the stadium. At the moment it is all very quiet

:28:02. > :28:09.for Argentina. Blocking in the circle, Unsworth

:28:10. > :28:15.combining with Webb to tidy up. A fantastic low tackle from Hollie

:28:16. > :28:18.Webb, protecting her feet. Looking for the corner, Martina Cavallaro.

:28:19. > :28:35.Look at the speed of Townsend down the right-hand side!

:28:36. > :28:41.Losing out and scrapping back, a determined recovery from Georgie

:28:42. > :28:49.Twigg, it falls to Hannah Macleod. But it will be an Argentina ball.

:28:50. > :28:56.Doing a lot of work for Argentina there, Agustina Albertario, although

:28:57. > :29:00.the score is 3-0, she is another youngster who will not be giving it

:29:01. > :29:08.up. Nicely taken out of the air by the Argentinian forward. Fantastic

:38:29. > :38:33.unchanged. The Argentinian players continued to scream in the face of

:38:34. > :38:39.the umpires who have joined forces now to discuss. My understanding is

:38:40. > :38:44.that it is meant to be one player and one player only that goes to the

:40:55. > :40:58.Britain 3-2 Argentina, 14 minutes of hockey to play in this pool match.

:40:59. > :41:07.There will be a card here for Townsend. Yellow, a minimum five

:41:08. > :41:08.minutes for Susannah Townsend. Not really what Great Britain needed at

:41:09. > :41:19.this particular moment in the game. Yellow card for Townsend and a

:41:20. > :41:30.five-minute suspension from the match. It is 11 against ten.

:41:31. > :41:33.Argentina with space and a little bit of creativity. Unsworth

:41:54. > :41:56.Britain creeping forward to the edge of the circle, plenty of space on

:41:57. > :42:05.the right hand side. Nicola White doing enough. Fantastic defence. The

:42:06. > :42:12.ball came up off Agustina Habif's body but it is a fantastic switch.

:42:20. > :42:31.Townsend and she just appends her. -- upends her. A missed trap by

:42:32. > :42:37.Argentina. Great Britain in a bit of a forward mood. Annesley.

:42:38. > :42:48.-- Gisele Annesley. Across to Chris: who controls nicely and turns and

:42:49. > :42:52.moves further forward. Alex Danson on the chase, well picked up, can

:42:53. > :42:56.she get away from her marker? It is good play to the edge of the circle,

:42:57. > :43:04.I thought there might have been an Argentinian foot on the ball. It

:43:05. > :43:16.was, outside the circle. No penalty corner but Great Britain possession.

:43:17. > :43:21.Unsworth. Kate Richardson-Walsh. Cullen forward. Click if back

:43:22. > :43:30.inside. Goodness me. That is a penalty stroke. Alex Danson

:43:31. > :43:32.absolutely flattened. That is a fantastic ball by Kate

:43:33. > :43:39.Richardson-Walsh out to Crista Cullen. Alex Danson does

:43:40. > :43:46.exceptionally well here. Susannah Townsend's it eight yellow card...

:43:47. > :43:50.That is red. I don't think it is a sending off but she was nowhere near

:43:51. > :43:55.the ball and she has taken Alex Danson's head. Penalty stroke to

:43:56. > :44:03.Great Britain. Helen Richardson-Walsh for the hat-trick.

:44:04. > :44:11.Two goals already for her, a chance to seal a third from the penalty

:44:12. > :44:18.spot here. There will be about ten or 12 twists of the stick before she

:44:19. > :44:23.hits it. She has missed! A good save, no hat-trick yet for Helen

:44:24. > :44:30.Richardson-Walsh. Argentina still in this match. 3-2. A missed penalty.

:44:31. > :44:33.You know what, if there was one person I would have wanted on the

:44:34. > :44:37.penalty stroke in this situation it would have been Helen

:44:38. > :44:41.Richardson-Walsh. Belen Succi chooses the right way and get a big

:44:42. > :44:47.left boot to it. How much will that affect the result? Another lift for

:44:48. > :44:53.Argentina. They got a real boost in that third quarter with the two

:44:54. > :44:59.girls and now the saved penalty. They still have a player over.

:45:00. > :45:04.Unsworth, busy, tidy work from Laura Unsworth. She has had a terrific

:45:05. > :45:09.tournament so far and continues with excellent work and MacLeod fires

:45:10. > :45:10.that downfield. Helen Richardson-Walsh climbing all over

:45:11. > :45:34.the Argentinian defender. She normally has a free role, she

:45:35. > :45:39.always gets herself on a deadline, normally the line to the goal. Laura

:45:40. > :45:43.Unsworth with Susannah Townsend off the field, she is being asked to

:45:44. > :45:48.mark to an extent, but where possible they bring another forward

:45:49. > :45:53.back. She can continue with that role. You get reliability from Laura

:45:54. > :45:57.Unsworth. I think she is one of those who deserves more credit than

:45:58. > :46:04.she is given. For exactly that, that is what her role is. Now, Sergei

:46:05. > :46:09.Bray has picked up the yellow card. I'm assuming for knocking the ball

:46:10. > :46:13.away -- Sophie Bray. I would be surprised if she had the

:46:14. > :46:18.whistle-blower. Great Britain outnumbered by Argentina here. -- I

:46:19. > :46:25.would be surprised if she heard the whistle blow.

:46:26. > :46:36.Argentina lose possession. A little moment of relief as Great Britain

:46:37. > :46:37.can regroup. Nine against 11. I don't think Sophie Bray remotely

:46:38. > :46:57.heard the whistle-blower Argentina, in numbers, they have

:46:58. > :47:04.strong numerical advantage. They attempt to put pressure on the

:47:05. > :47:14.stretched Great Britain defence, with Maddie Hinch in goal. A clash

:47:15. > :47:17.of sticks. Look at the umpire, the whistle went, they looked round to

:47:18. > :47:21.see the signal. From the British point of view, it

:47:22. > :47:33.was a British free hit outside of the circle. Hannah Macleod missed

:47:34. > :47:40.the trap. Webb needs to keep control, and stars. -- and does.

:47:41. > :47:48.Susannah Townsend is getting ready to come back on the field. Team GB

:47:49. > :47:54.still have to play, probably, 3-4 minutes with one player down. Lily

:47:55. > :47:59.Owsley looking sharp, good running from east to west across the field

:48:00. > :48:04.here. She uses up a bit of time, creating a lot of space. She did

:48:05. > :48:16.well, taking the ball to the sideline. Great Britain up to ten

:48:17. > :48:27.now. Sam Quek have the opportunity to

:48:28. > :48:32.roll the ball to Giselle Ansley out left, then play the ball to Susannah

:48:33. > :48:37.Townsend, she went another route and it did not

:48:38. > :48:51.payoff. Good running all the way to the far end of the circle stop

:48:52. > :49:03.August in Albertario. -- far end of the circle. Albertario. Albertario

:49:04. > :49:06.is unable to control that. Great Britain 3-2 Argentina. Midway

:49:07. > :49:13.through the final period. 7.5 minutes of play remaining. Great

:49:14. > :49:17.Britain really, in my opinion, need to play the ball wide, get it wide

:49:18. > :49:22.and played on those channels. Don't try to go down the middle on a 45

:49:23. > :49:34.degrees angle. Argentina are sat waiting to pick the ball off.

:49:35. > :49:42.The crowd calling on another burst of momentum from the South American

:49:43. > :49:49.side, they have to do better than that with their passing. Snatched

:49:50. > :49:57.nicely, good work! I thought it was a stick tackle on Lily Owsley by

:49:58. > :50:06.Baron Waverley. Whistle and Argentina rakeback -- Barrionuevo.

:50:07. > :50:13.Bouncing ball, free hit for Great Britain.

:50:14. > :50:25.The rain is coming down hard now. It looks as if the last six minutes or

:50:26. > :50:39.so of this match will be played in the driving rain. Argentina pressing

:50:40. > :50:45.once more. A nice touch and control. Good double teaming from Sam Quek

:50:46. > :50:53.and Hollie Webb. Martina Cavallaro not giving her the opportunity to

:50:54. > :50:58.get anywhere near the circle. Great Britain went mind this too much. As

:50:59. > :51:02.long as the Argentina player is stuck in the corner. Now they have

:51:03. > :51:09.broken, space on the right-hand side here. A chance, Hinch under pressure

:51:20. > :51:26.sure the last defender in that move, as GB go back to 11 with Bray on the

:51:27. > :51:30.field, was Alex Danson. Normally found at the other end of the pitch.

:51:31. > :51:34.Absolutely, fantastic play from Alex, realising the team needed her

:51:35. > :51:42.back there. It's absolutely chucking it down now. The aerial ball is

:51:43. > :51:45.tougher to control, looking up into the rainfall, Argentina did well.

:51:46. > :51:53.Back on the burst, and five minutes to play.

:51:54. > :52:01.A good run, they need to clear it here. Hinch Stetson, hoofing it

:52:02. > :52:05.away. Team GB really had to press out and

:52:06. > :52:25.push Argentina back as much as they can. -- Hinch steps in. Argentina's

:52:26. > :52:31.spirits are not dampened by the weather. Brave thought that she got

:52:32. > :52:38.away. -- Sophie Bray.

:52:39. > :52:47.Luckily for Argentina, she did not manage to get away. Giselle Ansley

:52:48. > :52:51.back defending. Red shirts everywhere, crowding the Argentinian

:53:15. > :53:22.A little flick. Argentina possession, and Laura Unsworth takes

:53:23. > :53:35.one in. That hurt. -- Unsworth takes one in the face. Certainly no malice

:53:36. > :53:46.in this. Just the stick is caught and up into her mouth and chin. It's

:53:47. > :53:54.a brutal game sometimes. Somewhere a glove, and gum shields, that's about

:53:55. > :54:01.it. The soft ones where the gloves! Interception from Kate Walsh but

:54:02. > :54:06.Argentina or not done yet... Loose, giving Great Britain a bit of

:54:11. > :54:16.chin, but remains on field. -- her sword cheek.

:54:17. > :54:22.Laura Unsworth is going nowhere with three minutes left on the clock. She

:54:23. > :54:29.will get an ice pack when she comes off the pitch.

:54:30. > :54:35.This is better from Great Britain, they push the press out. Argentina

:54:36. > :54:40.are forced to play from their own 25. They know their own

:54:41. > :54:45.responsibilities, they have a player to be in charge of. If they do their

:54:46. > :54:52.best year, they could walk away with three points. Crista Cullen leaves
