:00:00. > :00:00.four years ago. The top two go through to this match. In third and

:00:00. > :00:09.fourth, it's bronze medal. Real chance of a medal here for Team GB.

:00:10. > :00:14.Let's join this one at the semifinal stage. Here is Richard Kruse.

:00:15. > :00:30.COMMENTATOR: As you can see, it is a wet and windy day. The wind coming

:00:31. > :00:37.from right to left as you look out across this venue. This is the man

:00:38. > :00:51.who came through a shoot off to get that sixth place, Fehaid Aldeehani.

:00:52. > :01:09.We are about to get underway in the double trap competition here in Rio.

:01:10. > :01:13.This time, 30 target shot in 15 doubles in three sections of ten

:01:14. > :01:29.targets. A good start from Tim Kneale. The first miss of the

:01:30. > :01:39.competition from the man from Germany, Andreas Loew. 20 years of

:01:40. > :01:48.age, James Willett, the world number one, he managed that in just two

:01:49. > :01:53.years, amazing really. And there are five shooting positions. You can see

:01:54. > :02:04.the green bunker in front. The clay target being pushed out at a fair

:02:05. > :02:09.old lick, 80 kph. And they will get a selection of centre, left and

:02:10. > :02:17.right. They will be keeping count in their head as to what they have

:02:18. > :02:26.already had from each position. They are wrapped up against the weather.

:02:27. > :02:30.The first really rainy day we have had here at the Olympics. It is of

:02:31. > :02:47.course a winter here in Rio will stop will it. -- Willett looking

:02:48. > :02:53.good. Scott keeps his perfect tally. Aldeehani, he is having a good

:02:54. > :03:01.contest so far, the 49-year-old, the oldest in the competition. The only

:03:02. > :03:06.man in his 20s is James Willett, everybody else is in their 30s.

:03:07. > :03:14.Certainly a sport that takes awhile to get to peak of performance.

:03:15. > :03:26.Andreas Loew, he has missed another one. There is the flag. Willett.

:03:27. > :03:37.Works on the family sheep and grain farm, works part-time in an outdoor

:03:38. > :03:46.recreation shop. But in a semifinal here at the Olympics. The man who

:03:47. > :03:52.won bronze in Sydney, Kuwait's first medal in an Olympics in any

:03:53. > :04:01.discipline. Also won bronze in the trap in London. That is the first

:04:02. > :04:05.miss from Kneale, yes. The man who has the world record in

:04:06. > :04:14.qualification, missing just two out of 150. Marco Innocenti, also with

:04:15. > :04:20.seven out of eight. Not a disaster if you miss one, you just have to

:04:21. > :04:29.reset. 30 target is altogether and this competition goes at a lick.

:04:30. > :04:37.I believe no target was called. Steve Scott just having to reset

:04:38. > :04:41.himself, the world number ten, he has been shooting since he was nine.

:04:42. > :04:49.All leading to this and he is looking very good indeed.

:04:50. > :04:56.Aldeehani, he was fourth last time in London will stop he would hate if

:04:57. > :05:04.that happened to him again. He will be literally running for a medal

:05:05. > :05:09.here. And I think he has missed another one, Kneale. He is just

:05:10. > :05:17.having a bumpy ride, the silver medallist from the World

:05:18. > :05:24.Championships last year. Less time than their trap compatriots to get

:05:25. > :05:29.the two shots away, they still come out at the same rate of knots.

:05:30. > :05:44.Andreas Loew after that early couple of Mrs is back in form. -- misses.

:05:45. > :05:48.The rain is still falling the wind is not terrible, the E can pause the

:05:49. > :05:57.competition if the rain gets too bad but they will have shot in worse --

:05:58. > :06:01.the referee can pause. Three athletes have an unblemished record

:06:02. > :06:06.including Steven Scott and James Willett and of course Fehaid

:06:07. > :06:16.Aldeehani. All very experienced campaigners. Scott of course as

:06:17. > :06:23.Sheikh Ahmad Maktoum as his coach, a member of the Dubai world family.

:06:24. > :06:30.Tim Kneale is an all-round sportsman, has also represented the

:06:31. > :06:41.Isle of Man at under 19 rugby level and also at cricket. Marco

:06:42. > :06:52.Innocenti, still in with a chance, shooting well. This is the man to be

:06:53. > :07:03.keeping an eye on. Yet to miss a target. Was that a double miss? It

:07:04. > :07:09.is! That perfect record from Steven Scott is in tatters now will stop

:07:10. > :07:11.that could be a really important moment. Not often you see a double

:07:12. > :07:28.miss at this level. Kneale. He goes up into equal second at the

:07:29. > :07:37.moment. Innocenti with a pair here can leapfrog them but I think he has

:07:38. > :07:44.missed the second one and he has. This is a bit of a seesaw semifinal.

:07:45. > :07:50.Loew missed two out of the first six but is back on it now. And if that's

:07:51. > :07:58.the first miss from the Australian? It is and he is human after all --

:07:59. > :08:05.is that. Just this man, competing under the Olympic banner, Fehaid

:08:06. > :08:12.Aldeehani. But there you go, a first miss from him as well. You can see

:08:13. > :08:15.the flags really stiff in the breeze, it is not easy. It will push

:08:16. > :08:34.these clays around. Innocenti going well now. And so is

:08:35. > :08:38.Loew. Good German representation in the stands, the man who qualified

:08:39. > :08:48.first, world ranked number five, four behind this man. And another

:08:49. > :08:51.miss from James Willett. And all of sudden he is looking a little less

:08:52. > :08:55.invincible. Scott recovering from that double miss come he has hit two

:08:56. > :09:11.doubles in a row now. Aldeehani shooting well. Recovering

:09:12. > :09:17.from just a single missed so far. It is very tight indeed. Kneale, with

:09:18. > :09:28.16 hits. Putting the pressure on everybody else, everybody else has

:09:29. > :09:32.14. And Innocenti misses one. And there is another myth is welcome

:09:33. > :09:38.straight down the middle, that seems to be foxing a few people and that

:09:39. > :09:44.is a costly miss for Loew. Better from the Australian.

:09:45. > :09:55.He took those very quickly. Steve Scott looking very comfortable on

:09:56. > :10:02.that particular pair. Another miss from Aldeehani.

:10:03. > :10:09.A chance for Kneale to close the gap. Oh dear. That first one, I'm

:10:10. > :10:16.not sure what happened, there seemed to be a delay with getting the shot

:10:17. > :10:18.away. He had a chance to join Aldeehani in first place. That has

:10:19. > :10:36.gone by the wayside. Again, the one down the middle, Loew

:10:37. > :10:40.is struggling with that one. And Willett misses another one. The man

:10:41. > :10:46.who learned to shoot on the family farm at just 12 years of age, a

:10:47. > :10:53.different story for Steve Scott. It is not going to plan for the Britain

:10:54. > :10:57.but there is a four way tie at the moment for second place so all is

:10:58. > :11:07.not lost for any of those athletes. Still Aldeehani one ahead with

:11:08. > :11:16.Kneale, Innocenti, Willett and Scott all behind him. It is very tight. We

:11:17. > :11:25.have five doubles left, ten more clays for each of these athletes.

:11:26. > :11:32.Will it be another coaching triumph for Sheikh Ahmed? Coach Peter Wilson

:11:33. > :11:42.of course, nobody quite knows what he tells his charges, he keeps his

:11:43. > :11:43.cards close to his chest. A good start to this last section for

:11:44. > :12:08.Aldeehani. Another miss from Kneale. Innocenti. He takes both of those

:12:09. > :12:16.with ease. This time that second shot for Loew is bagged. He has had

:12:17. > :12:20.an indifferent last few shots. I think he got a nibble of that second

:12:21. > :12:31.one, Willett. He moves into second place. Still Aldeehani a shot to the

:12:32. > :12:36.good and if he keeps going well, he is assured of a gold medal match.

:12:37. > :12:46.And he is going well done 22 out of 24, excellent shooting. Back on it,

:12:47. > :12:56.Tim Kneale. The man from the Isle of Man. He is actually residing in

:12:57. > :13:01.Somerset where he works on a farm to raise some money for this sport

:13:02. > :13:11.which can be very expensive. Better from Loew.

:13:12. > :13:21.Willett in the mix still, he had that wobble in the second series.

:13:22. > :13:25.Conditions are very dark here, you can see the lights shining brightly

:13:26. > :13:38.in the stands. Not easy for these athletes. Excellent work from

:13:39. > :13:43.Aldeehani. And Tim Kneale is keeping his calm under pressure after a

:13:44. > :13:55.wobble of his own. A couple of times he has missed shots. Innocenti

:13:56. > :14:06.leapfrogging into second. And a miss from Loew and he is struggling.

:14:07. > :14:11.Willett. And he misses one. Well, the Australian, the world number

:14:12. > :14:16.one, not really in the rhythm he would like. That is better from

:14:17. > :14:24.Steve Scott as well will stop he is in equal second along with Innocenti

:14:25. > :14:31.of Italy. And Aldeehani is shooting beautifully. You suspect Kneale is

:14:32. > :14:39.in a scrap for a bronze medal shoot off match. He is up to 24.

:14:40. > :14:55.Still with a chance of that bronze medal match, Loew. Willett is under

:14:56. > :15:08.pressure here. He does well and take them early. Last issued is Steve

:15:09. > :15:15.Scott and he misses one! Oh my. Equal third, he was in with a shout.

:15:16. > :15:21.He has gone to be gold-medal match, that is the last for Aldeehani. He

:15:22. > :15:24.missed just a couple and while he celebrates, everybody has to keep

:15:25. > :15:34.calm and try to concentrate on what they have to do. Normally you should

:15:35. > :15:38.stay at the shooting position. And wait for everybody else to finish

:15:39. > :15:40.but certainly you can see what it meant to Aldeehani. At least a

:15:41. > :15:57.silver medal for him. He has been pulled back to where he

:15:58. > :16:01.should be, it is a little disrespectful to the other athletes.

:16:02. > :16:04.They are still battling to get into the gold medal or bronze medal

:16:05. > :16:12.matches. A yellow card understandably given to the queue 80

:16:13. > :16:13.athlete who is competing under the Olympic flag. -- the athlete from Q

:16:14. > :16:30.80. Leapfrogging into second place,

:16:31. > :16:34.Marco Innocenti. That means he will be in the gold-medal match. Who will

:16:35. > :16:45.be in the bronze medal shoot off? That is the question here. Andreas

:16:46. > :16:50.Loew with a couple. James Willett does well as well. 26, now the

:16:51. > :17:01.chance for Steven Scott to take the bronze medal. He does as well. -- in

:17:02. > :17:07.the bronze medal match. Fehaid Aldeehani, slightly ill mannered

:17:08. > :17:12.what he did, but he is in the gold-medal match. So is Marco

:17:13. > :17:22.Innocenti. We have a 3-way shoot off, including two Brits, and an

:17:23. > :17:25.Australian. Tim Kneale, Steven Scott of Great Britain, and Australian

:17:26. > :17:35.James Willett. Steven Scott will be ruling his double miss earlier on in

:17:36. > :17:40.that semifinal. We wait to see who will make it into the bronze medal

:17:41. > :17:48.match. Here is confirmation... Fehaid Aldeehani and Marco Innocenti

:17:49. > :17:56.into the gold-medal match. James Willett, Steven Scott and Tim Kneale

:17:57. > :18:00.have their nerves jangling, they wait to see if they can make it into

:18:01. > :18:06.the bronze medal match. Andreas Loew confirmed in sixth place. Having

:18:07. > :18:13.trouble with those shots down the middle. You can see what it meant to

:18:14. > :18:19.him, but really he needed to wait until everybody else had shot before

:18:20. > :18:23.he showed that a motion. He got that yellow card from the referee --

:18:24. > :18:27.e-mail should. The problem was, it slowed everything down and everybody

:18:28. > :18:45.had to wait. -- emotion. Tears of joy, is a very emotional

:18:46. > :18:48.guy, let it all out. I'm sure he will have it back under control. By

:18:49. > :18:55.the time we get to the gold-medal match. This is the shoot off to get

:18:56. > :19:04.to the bronze medal match. Remember, the first person who drops a shot,

:19:05. > :19:09.and the others don't, we'll have to drop out and take fifth place.

:19:10. > :19:16.-- will have to take. Putting pressure on everyone else,

:19:17. > :19:20.Tim Kneale. Do you want to shoot first or last? People say last, if

:19:21. > :19:26.possible. World number one James Willett.

:19:27. > :19:40.Won here in April at the World Cup, third and fourth place since. That

:19:41. > :19:44.is a Miss, Steven Scott just has two hippies two, and it will be an all

:19:45. > :19:56.British bronze medal match. -- he has two hit these two. He hits

:19:57. > :20:00.them both! Yes, is what he says. It is an

:20:01. > :20:06.intense moment for Steven Scott, and the two British athletes embrace.

:20:07. > :20:09.It is a long walk for James Willett of Australia, taking fifth place.

:20:10. > :20:12.The man you would have thought would be doing good things here, the world

:20:13. > :20:25.number one qualified well but it is not his day.

:20:26. > :20:30.He settles for fifth place. DAN: A guaranteed bronze medal for

:20:31. > :20:32.Team GB here, either Steven Scott or Tim Kneale.

:20:33. > :20:38.Remember, this was actually where Peter Wilson one the gold-medal four

:20:39. > :20:43.years ago in London 2012. Steven Scott has the same coach --

:20:44. > :20:48.won. That Peter Wilson had four years

:20:49. > :20:52.ago. Hopefully one of them will be able to sort themselves out. We will

:20:53. > :20:55.stay with this on BBC Four for you. It may be that it disappears on to

:20:56. > :20:59.BBC One. If that is the case, we will let you

:21:00. > :21:03.know and bring you other live sport here on BBC Four.

:21:04. > :21:06.For the moment, we will stay with the men's double trap bronze medal

:21:07. > :21:10.match between Tim Kneale and Steven Scott.

:21:11. > :21:12.I will let you know exactly what will happen if you do want to follow

:21:13. > :21:48.this. ANNOUNCER: Representing Great

:21:49. > :21:55.Britain, Tim Kneale. And representing Great Britain, Steven

:21:56. > :22:07.Scott! APPLAUSE This is the bronze medal match.

:22:08. > :22:11.COMMENTATOR: A reminder, hitting the targets, 15 doubles, shot in five

:22:12. > :22:26.sections of six targets. Three doubles in each section. Tim Kneale

:22:27. > :22:36.gets off to a good start. It was a tricky second clay for Scott. But,

:22:37. > :22:43.he was quick on both. Tim Kneale took up shooting early at 12, taking

:22:44. > :22:57.up double trap at 18. He is looking very calm and assured here.

:22:58. > :23:03.DAN: We have had a meeting, this is what will happen.

:23:04. > :23:06.This is going to BBC One. If you want to continue to watch Tim Kneale

:23:07. > :23:10.and Steven Scott going for bronze in the double trap, to BBC One now,

:23:11. > :23:14.they are at exactly the same point in this bronze medal match.

:23:15. > :23:17.You can pick it up without missing a beat.

:23:18. > :23:22.We will come back later on, and show you the gold-medal match between

:23:23. > :23:26.Fehaid Aldeehani, who is competing under the Olympic flag, and Marco

:23:27. > :23:31.Innocenti of Italy. This is what is happening over the next few hours...

:23:32. > :23:35.Joe Clarke is in the canoe slalom for Great Britain. That is coming up

:23:36. > :23:39.after the judo. One of our brick slots tonight will be taken by the

:23:40. > :23:45.men's individual all-around final, Nile Wilson and Max Whitlock of Team

:23:46. > :23:56.GB -- big slots. But all eyes will be on the Japanese competitor, seen

:23:57. > :23:58.as the overall best ever male gymnast, Kohei Uchimura. And we have

:23:59. > :24:11.died in later with Team -- the diving later.

:24:12. > :24:16.Sally Conway is coming up in the judo, rugby sevens is on later. We

:24:17. > :24:20.saw Team GB earlier on the BBC, beating New Zealand 21-19. That

:24:21. > :24:26.takes them into the quarterfinals, we will show you that live at nine

:24:27. > :24:30.o'clock back home. And we have all 4/4-finals for you in total. If you

:24:31. > :24:35.are into the rugby sevens, tonight is your night on BBC Four! Table

:24:36. > :24:39.tennis, the women's singles final with amazing skills on offer, can

:24:40. > :24:47.the Chinese continue to dominate at these games? That at 1:30am.

:24:48. > :24:51.Just a reminder, if you want to see Tim Kneale and Steven Scott, go for

:24:52. > :24:57.the bronze medal in the men's double trap, that's live on BBC One. He on

:24:58. > :25:00.BBC Four, we will show you the judo, because Sally Conway, last year, she

:25:01. > :25:05.showed she has medal potential here at the games where she won the grand

:25:06. > :25:09.slam final for the first time, we will show you her quarterfinal match

:25:10. > :25:13.earlier today against a Linda Bolder of Israel. This is the women's 70

:25:14. > :25:18.can grant category, and the winner of this one gets into the semifinal,

:25:19. > :25:29.let's see if Sally Conway can make it...? -- 70 kilograms.

:25:30. > :25:37.COMMENTATOR: Sally Conway in white, Linda Bolder in blue. Four minutes

:25:38. > :25:44.on the clock in this Rio 2016 and 70 kilos quarterfinal. These two know

:25:45. > :25:51.each other, they have Forte times in the last eight years. -- four years.

:25:52. > :26:03.Linda Bolder has 15. Sally Conway looks in exceptional form, two ippon

:26:04. > :26:15.for her so far. The world champion as dramatic as you will see. Linda

:26:16. > :26:20.Bolder knocked to the floor, can Conway

:26:21. > :26:30.take advantage? Linda Bolder looked temporary stand there. -- stunned.

:26:31. > :26:40.The referee orders the two to break. No score, one minute goal of this

:26:41. > :26:44.quarterfinal. The golden score awaiting, if there is no score by

:26:45. > :26:48.the end of those four minutes, the golden score can last as long as it

:26:49. > :26:54.needs to until someone scores or has a penalty awarded against them.

:26:55. > :26:59.Sally Conway, already the best performing British judo star here at

:27:00. > :27:29.Rio 2016 so far. Linda Bolder getting advice from her

:27:30. > :27:32.coach. She has been penalised. So, Conway has the narrowest of

:27:33. > :27:38.advantages now. That penalty will be enough at the end of those two

:27:39. > :27:46.minutes if Linda Bolder cannot score. You cannot be defensive in

:27:47. > :27:48.judo, and Conway isn't either. A big attempt at a throw from Linda

:27:49. > :28:07.Bolder. Conway in white can still ahead and

:28:08. > :28:10.looking lively as she has done all day, looking focused.

:28:11. > :28:14.Out of the second round in London 2012 already, there is an

:28:15. > :28:18.improvement here. She feels she can be this opponent, and go further

:28:19. > :28:25.after defeating the world champion in the second round. Bolder searches

:28:26. > :28:33.for the grip around the back of Conway's neck. Still, no score other

:28:34. > :28:46.than that penalty. Now, slamming down. It is a waza-ari for Sally

:28:47. > :28:53.Conway. The clock ticks down in the top of your screen.

:28:54. > :29:01.It is a ippon awarded for Sally Conway. Her third ippon in a row.

:29:02. > :29:07.Delight is etched on her face, the 29-year-old. She came here with a

:29:08. > :29:12.world ranking of number ten, she is punching well above that already,

:29:13. > :29:18.into the final four. Sally Conway. At Rio 2016. ANNOUNCER: Sally

:29:19. > :29:33.Conway! A hug for the coach, huge

:29:34. > :29:36.celebration for Sally Conway, she has more work to do this afternoon

:29:37. > :29:42.and into the evening, medals will be decided today. She looks on the form

:29:43. > :29:48.of her life for Great Britain, Sally Conway into the final four.

:29:49. > :29:54.Brilliant stuff and Sally Conway will be in action in about 45

:29:55. > :29:59.minutes against Yuri Alvear of Colombia and you will be able to

:30:00. > :30:03.watch that on BBC One or on the website or app. The BBC sport app is

:30:04. > :30:07.a great place to go because often when you are watching, you are not

:30:08. > :30:11.sure who is on where with the athletics coming next week, a lot of

:30:12. > :30:16.sailing and rowing and cycling. If you want to know what races are at

:30:17. > :30:21.certain times got on the app and the website there is a schedule for

:30:22. > :30:26.everyday so you can your viewing. We love getting your messages here and

:30:27. > :30:32.we will go to the gold-medal match in the men's double trap the moment

:30:33. > :30:37.but Mark Winstanley says, forget Rio, it looks like Prestatyn! It is

:30:38. > :30:42.a bit murky at the moment. Darren and his wife Louise, if you mention

:30:43. > :30:48.us, my wife says she will what all night all the way until two o'clock.

:30:49. > :30:53.There you go, I hope you like rugby sevens because we have got hours of

:30:54. > :31:01.it! We are going to go back to the shooting now. But elsewhere on BBC

:31:02. > :31:11.One at the moment we have the kayak final with Joe Clarke going for Team

:31:12. > :31:23.GB. On the Red Button we have the basketball, Serbia taking on France.

:31:24. > :31:32.And we are going to take you to the gold-medal match for Fehaid

:31:33. > :31:36.Aldeehani, representing, competing under the Olympic flag. He will be

:31:37. > :31:42.taking on Marco Innocenti of Italy. If you were not watching ABC one, it

:31:43. > :31:51.was Steven Scott who won the bronze medal for Team GB -- watching on BBC

:31:52. > :31:56.One. Will it be Italy or Fehaid Aldeehani? He got a yellow card in

:31:57. > :32:00.the semifinal for over celebrating when he already knew he was into the

:32:01. > :32:08.gold-medal match. Let's see who can take the gold. It is bit murky as

:32:09. > :32:09.well with the wind and rain effecting things. Let's rejoin

:32:10. > :32:25.Richard Drew. Fehaid Aldeehani has had his fair

:32:26. > :32:31.share of dramas. In the Asian games in 2014 he got a silver, not a gold,

:32:32. > :32:36.because a dragonfly landed on the barrel when he had already shouted

:32:37. > :32:41.pool and he had to take the shot. As you can imagine, he with slightly

:32:42. > :32:45.distracted -- when he had shouted pull. And an early miss for

:32:46. > :33:10.Innocenti. He is looking very solid, isn't he?

:33:11. > :33:25.The man from Kuwait, under the Olympic banner.

:33:26. > :33:31.Still very overcast and breezy. I don't think the wind is strong

:33:32. > :33:41.enough to make much of a difference to these two. 49 years of age and a

:33:42. > :33:42.miss. He just missed two in the semifinal and that is his first one

:33:43. > :34:07.here. Innocenti, 37 years of age. Another miss from Innocenti. 5-4

:34:08. > :34:22.after the first three pairs. The oldest competitor with the man from

:34:23. > :34:26.Paraguay, Paulo Reichardt who was 56 two days ago. This was his Olympic

:34:27. > :34:28.Games debut and it just goes to show that sometimes age is not a barrier

:34:29. > :34:45.to appearing in the Olympics. Still very tight. That miss from

:34:46. > :34:46.other Harney certainly opened it up a bit for Innocenti -- from

:34:47. > :35:00.Aldeehani. And another miss not so perfect now,

:35:01. > :35:10.you can see the wind is still pretty strong. The same for both athletes,

:35:11. > :35:16.I don't think it is gusting. You can see sometimes the used targets being

:35:17. > :35:21.blown across the grass. As you can see from the officials behind, all

:35:22. > :35:26.wrapped up, it is not the warmest and I'm sure that will affect this

:35:27. > :35:28.man from the Middle East more than most. He got a nibble on that second

:35:29. > :35:47.one. And a miss this time from the

:35:48. > :35:55.Italian. It is still very close but Aldeehani, thanks to that late miss

:35:56. > :36:03.from Innocenti, is just ahead with six out of 15 doubles taken.

:36:04. > :36:16.A little bit of rain around. Good to have a cloth to wipe the glasses.

:36:17. > :36:26.Some athletes do wear like enhancing shades. Some just clear glass. --

:36:27. > :36:55.light enhancing. Nicely done by Aldeehani. Now the

:36:56. > :37:06.Italian, Innocenti. My word. A double miss! What happened there?

:37:07. > :37:10.Only he knows. He missed the first one and snatched at the second one

:37:11. > :37:17.and you don't see that very often at this level.

:37:18. > :37:24.That was at least one missed, yes, he got a nibble of the first one.

:37:25. > :37:30.They are definitely being effected by the wind. They are experienced

:37:31. > :37:33.enough, they are used to this. He took his time on that second one.

:37:34. > :37:46.That is better from Innocenti. The Italian shooting community is

:37:47. > :37:52.very strong. One of the manufacturers of the shotgun is that

:37:53. > :37:53.these guys use are based in Italy. You can see the shot heading towards

:37:54. > :38:15.the target. The wind whipping at the coat of

:38:16. > :38:24.other Harney. And another miss! Three adrift now -- at the code of

:38:25. > :38:32.Aldeehani. Whatever the reason, he is just not on it at the moment.

:38:33. > :38:40.Look how quickly he took that. This is going to be an unassailable lead

:38:41. > :38:43.very shortly if he carries on like this. He has missed three. Five

:38:44. > :39:05.being missed by the Italian. There is a miss, perhaps a little

:39:06. > :39:25.bit of hope for Innocenti. He has just got to keep mailing the

:39:26. > :39:43.doubles that he has left, six doubles left -- nailing. Aldeehani,

:39:44. > :39:45.the man from Kuwait, competing under the Olympic flag because the acuity

:39:46. > :39:57.Olympic committee have been suspended by the IOC. If the six

:39:58. > :40:07.shots away from Olympic glory? A third medal.

:40:08. > :40:11.It will definitely be Aldeehani's but what colour? Innocenti trying to

:40:12. > :40:21.keep the pressure up, there is still time for something to happen here.

:40:22. > :40:31.Innocenti has certainly been off-colour. Edging closer. Innocenti

:40:32. > :40:42.needs to hit both of these to stay in with a chance of gold. And he

:40:43. > :40:46.does. One of these two shots fought Aldeehani and he will take the

:40:47. > :40:50.gold-medal and you hope that he will hold on with the celebrations until

:40:51. > :41:03.Innocenti has finished his shots. Both are taken and it is gold for

:41:04. > :41:13.Fehaid Aldeehani. Excellent shooting. Innocenti still to shoot.

:41:14. > :41:19.And then the celebrations can really begin. It is academic but it will be

:41:20. > :41:28.on the records for ever. He takes those two. The Italian takes silver,

:41:29. > :41:31.he will be disappointed with that because, for some reason, early in

:41:32. > :41:39.the match his radar really wasn't working but there you go. His

:41:40. > :41:44.previous two medals had been under the flag of Kuwait, this under the

:41:45. > :41:53.Olympic flag but it is gold all the same for Fehaid Aldeehani. Silver

:41:54. > :41:58.for Marco Innocenti. His day job is to do with shooting and armoury and

:41:59. > :42:03.he will be disappointed at the moment. But I think on reflection he

:42:04. > :42:09.will be delighted to have come away with a silver medal. This was the

:42:10. > :42:16.moment that he clinched in some style the gold medal. Aldeehani

:42:17. > :42:20.absolutely delighted, the man who took bronze in Sydney, also has a

:42:21. > :42:30.bronze from London in the trap event. Excellent work indeed.

:42:31. > :42:36.Innocenti getting his congratulations and well deserved as

:42:37. > :42:45.well, from his coach. And of course some of the competitors as well.

:42:46. > :42:54.That takes the silver. Under the cloud and rain and the wind, not

:42:55. > :42:58.very Brazilian, the weather. Confirmation of the gold-medal

:42:59. > :43:00.match, it is silver for Marco Innocenti but the gold goes to

:43:01. > :43:09.Fehaid Aldeehani. And thank you to Richard Drew for

:43:10. > :43:15.the commentary. And if you are just joining us, Steven Scott of Team GB

:43:16. > :43:19.got the bronze medal. Tim Kneale missed out because he was in that

:43:20. > :43:23.bronze medal match alongside Steven Scott and he finished in fourth

:43:24. > :43:29.place. And that is the same event at Peter Wilson won in 2012.

:43:30. > :43:33.Disappointingly, Team GB currently lead the table here in Rio for

:43:34. > :43:39.finishing in fourth place. Quite a few missing out on the major medals

:43:40. > :43:45.at the moment. One question we have had, how do we get the job of the

:43:46. > :43:52.guy who holds up the flags? I think it takes years of training! If you

:43:53. > :43:56.dedicate yourself, maybe one day you could be that man holding up the

:43:57. > :44:00.flags. We are talking about getting inspired, most people want to be

:44:01. > :44:04.inspired to compete but maybe that is your future! It is day five of

:44:05. > :44:09.the Olympic Games, welcome to Copacabana Beach. We are here on BBC

:44:10. > :44:11.Four until 2am. It is high time we gave you a reminder of the

:44:12. > :44:21.headlines. We just talked about it, Steven

:44:22. > :44:30.Scott has taken bronze in the men's double trap, he pushed out Tim

:44:31. > :44:35.Kneale, also of Great Britain. There was gold for fabulous Babin

:44:36. > :44:43.Cancellara in the men's time trial earlier. -- Fabian Cancellara. Chris

:44:44. > :44:48.Froome took the bronze, Geraint Thomas came in ninth. Amazing story

:44:49. > :44:55.in the women's times Tara, Kristin Armstrong, the Olympic title on the

:44:56. > :45:01.trot, 43 years old tomorrow. Emma Pooley missed out on the podium. --

:45:02. > :45:07.women's time trial. We have shown you the murky weather here, and not

:45:08. > :45:12.far away from us the rowing has been cancelled, the second day that has

:45:13. > :45:17.happened so they have to catch up with things. Hopefully the weather

:45:18. > :45:24.will get better tomorrow and they can catch up because they are

:45:25. > :45:30.behind. And the tennis has also been delayed, we were hoping to show you

:45:31. > :45:34.Andy Murray against Fabio Fognini in the third round and Johanna Konta

:45:35. > :45:39.against Angelique Kerber but this is all weather dependent. It is not

:45:40. > :45:52.really Rio weather at the moment. On BBC One at the moment, there

:45:53. > :45:56.is... Can we give you the result of the men's kayak final? Good News! A

:45:57. > :45:59.second gold of the games for Joe Clarke, producing the goods.

:46:00. > :46:04.Hopefully you weren't looking forward to watching that later, but

:46:05. > :46:08.now you know! Adam Peaty won gold a couple of days ago, and Joe Clarke

:46:09. > :46:14.has just won the second gold of the games. We will show you that on BBC

:46:15. > :46:19.four as well. That was good timing. On the Red Button at the moment,

:46:20. > :46:27.men's basketball, Serbia are playing France. The dream team are in action

:46:28. > :46:30.later on. They take on Australia. It is probably time we told you exactly

:46:31. > :46:35.what's coming up on BBC Four in the next few hours... We will show you

:46:36. > :46:39.Joe Clarke winning the gold in the men's kayak, now we've given the

:46:40. > :46:43.game away! Two gold medals at the game so far, we will bring you date

:46:44. > :46:52.with the medal table, hopefully Team GB will climb it quickly. Over the

:46:53. > :46:57.next few hours on BBC Four... Very shortly, we will be off to the Rio

:46:58. > :47:03.Olympic Arena for the gymnastics, it's the men's individual all-around

:47:04. > :47:10.final. The hot favourite from Japan, but Nile Wilson and Max Whitlock are

:47:11. > :47:15.hoping to be among the medals. Do you like your rugby sevens? BBC Four

:47:16. > :47:19.is the place to be tonight, all four of the quarterfinals coming up,

:47:20. > :47:25.including Great Britain's men. They beat New Zealand earlier, they are

:47:26. > :47:30.in the last eight. Beach volleyball is coming up later on BBC Four, this

:47:31. > :47:34.has been a big favourite for our coverage over the last few days,

:47:35. > :47:38.including Kerri Walsh Jennings, going for her third Olympic gold.

:47:39. > :47:48.She is part of a ridiculously successful team USA. Some table

:47:49. > :47:52.tennis too, the Chinese are so dominant in this sport. When it gets

:47:53. > :47:57.to the gold, and the Bronze and Silver medal matches, the quality is

:47:58. > :48:04.just ridiculous to watch, looking forward to seeing that later on this

:48:05. > :48:08.channel. Right now, we are going to go and watch some gymnastics. We saw

:48:09. > :48:12.Simone Biles be amazing at these games already, we have the women's

:48:13. > :48:17.all-around final coming up later, now we will concentrate on the men,

:48:18. > :48:43.can Team GB grab a medal? It is time to go to the Rio Olympic Arena.

:48:44. > :48:56.DELICATE PIANO MUSIC PLAYS. I hope you are ready for this, there are

:48:57. > :49:00.some opportunities for Team GB to win medals, Nile Wilson and Max

:49:01. > :49:07.Whitlock, we can cross to the Rio Olympics arena, Matt Baker with all

:49:08. > :49:11.of the eyes on our boys and the greatest gymnast we've ever seen,

:49:12. > :49:15.Kohei Uchimura in action too? Yes, everyone here taking their

:49:16. > :49:20.seats ready for the men's all-around final. Basically, in the next two

:49:21. > :49:24.hours, you will see the finest gymnast, the top 24 from

:49:25. > :49:29.qualification, competing on every single piece of apparatus, one after

:49:30. > :49:32.the next, without break. At the end of the competition, the gymnast with

:49:33. > :49:37.the biggest score takes the title of the men's all-round Olympic final

:49:38. > :49:41.here, Dan Keatings, you are a world silver medallist yourself, you know

:49:42. > :49:45.what it is like to achieve greatness at this level and it is fair to say,

:49:46. > :49:52.this is the ultimate title for a gymnast? Yes, to win the men's

:49:53. > :49:53.all-rounder, you are the best gymnast in the world. The amount of

:49:54. > :50:02.effort and have -- hard work it takes committee must

:50:03. > :50:06.be strong across the apparatus, and if you have a moment of witness, you

:50:07. > :50:14.won't get in. Consistency is key, can we reflect on the team final we

:50:15. > :50:17.saw yesterday? Talking about consistency and all-round gymnasts,

:50:18. > :50:21.Simone Biles blew us away -- weakness. We knew that she would

:50:22. > :50:25.come here and compete at a high level indeed, but the level of

:50:26. > :50:32.difficulty we are seeing from her, and the rest of the world, this

:50:33. > :50:36.fault could make history? Yes, she'd be hardest but we've seen from a

:50:37. > :50:40.female at the moment, she is doing it at near perfection. Heard tumbles

:50:41. > :50:44.are similar to the powerful tumbles that the boys are doing, her third

:50:45. > :50:49.is what most gymnasts do as their first. We have seen training videos

:50:50. > :50:53.where she is doing it even more difficult. When she is competing,

:50:54. > :50:58.she is almost competing a level below what she is capable of.

:50:59. > :51:03.Absolutely, we have been surprised by the quality, it's fair to say, of

:51:04. > :51:07.the rest of the world here. We are witnessing the hardest routines

:51:08. > :51:12.ever. It is quite extraordinary, from a physical point of view. What

:51:13. > :51:16.is happening here? It is the Olympic Games, it only happens every four

:51:17. > :51:20.years. Everybody has really upped their game. We have been especially

:51:21. > :51:25.impressed with the Russians, we saw them improve in the Europeans

:51:26. > :51:29.earlier in the year. They have even further upped their game coming into

:51:30. > :51:34.these games. Well, today all eyes will be on a certain gymnast who has

:51:35. > :51:41.19 world medals, he has six Olympic medals and is regarded by many as

:51:42. > :51:50.the greatest male gymnast ever. It's Kohei Uchimura. COMMENTATOR:

:51:51. > :51:58.Kohei Uchimura, regarded as the finest gymnast on the planet.

:51:59. > :52:08.Absolute style, beautiful. That was exciting stuff. Such style, such

:52:09. > :52:14.liners. Lovely style, lovely control. FUNKY MUSIC

:52:15. > :52:21.-- lightness. Hello! We are all very excited! You

:52:22. > :52:39.are in short slightly there! So, brilliant. We were not expecting

:52:40. > :52:43.that, to say the least! Many say that Kohei Uchimura could be beaten

:52:44. > :52:50.this year, Dan. Are you one of those people? I think he could be. The

:52:51. > :52:56.Ukrainian gymnast, he is on top form here, use being on top form all

:52:57. > :52:59.year, Oleg Verniaiev, he beat him and qualifications. It will rattle

:53:00. > :53:04.Kohei Uchimura and little. We have seen that under pressure he can

:53:05. > :53:08.falter. He scored over 16 in qualification, the parallel bars are

:53:09. > :53:12.his forte but he is a wonderful all-round gymnast. This is Oleg

:53:13. > :53:16.Verniaiev in action. Talk us through, as a parallel bar

:53:17. > :53:21.specialist, where he is so good? He has great balance on the bar work,

:53:22. > :53:26.with the big skills on the top of the bar, and good at the dismount.

:53:27. > :53:33.He is so clean, moving to the end of the bar, and that is one of the

:53:34. > :53:40.highest I've ever seen. Oleg Verniaiev is in with a chance, as is

:53:41. > :53:43.the Russian, the third highest qualifier, David Belyavskiy, we've

:53:44. > :53:48.been impressed with the all-round silver medallist? Yes, over the

:53:49. > :53:52.years he's always been there or thereabouts, but he has issues with

:53:53. > :53:57.consistency. Every championships he gets towards the end, running and

:53:58. > :54:01.running and then has a fall. In the Europeans, he upped his game.

:54:02. > :54:12.Tonight, we will really see the fight between these top gymnasts.

:54:13. > :54:16.And a quick word on the Chinese competitor, Deng Shudi, he boldly

:54:17. > :54:25.said that in Rio, he would beat Kohei Uchimura. It may be a step too

:54:26. > :54:30.far for him, but there is potential. We've been doing a lot of talk about

:54:31. > :54:34.statistics, we have been wondering, really, there is the potential 14

:54:35. > :54:39.gymnasts who can do incredible things here. Looking at the scores,

:54:40. > :54:43.they always say there is the magical all-round score of 91. There are

:54:44. > :54:48.seven gymnast who can go over that, and another sent

:54:49. > :54:56.-- seven scoring just below. We worked out there are 14 who could

:54:57. > :54:59.all be over 90, that is unheard-of communion that to be in the medals

:55:00. > :55:05.normally. It will be an exciting competition. We have a full quarter,

:55:06. > :55:10.because Nile Wilson qualified in fifth place. Max Whitlock had a fall

:55:11. > :55:17.on the high bar, and he qualified down in 12. Let's have a look at

:55:18. > :55:21.Nile here, his confidence is like summing I've never seen before. We

:55:22. > :55:26.know he is confident but we are competing in the Olympics --

:55:27. > :55:30.something. He won at the championships earlier this year, is

:55:31. > :55:34.huge confidence boost for him. He got huge scores for the team and

:55:35. > :55:38.himself on the high bar. He is a young lad, hungry and I think that

:55:39. > :55:42.he will be a dark horse today. With him being one of the younger

:55:43. > :55:46.gymnasts, do you think it will help him? He doesn't have a lot of

:55:47. > :55:50.baggage, if you know what I mean, when it comes to competing in a

:55:51. > :55:53.grand arena and the pressure that comes with it? He is new on the

:55:54. > :55:57.scene committee does not have pressure or expectation other

:55:58. > :56:01.gymnasts have. He is hungry for it, you can see him coming from the

:56:02. > :56:03.juniors into the seniors, and he really wants that. We know that Max

:56:04. > :56:15.Whitlock can achieve great -- greatness, in qualification, he

:56:16. > :56:24.fell on the high bar is, this means that our two key pieces, one is the

:56:25. > :56:29.high bar, can he put it right in the team final? Yes, he managed to make

:56:30. > :56:33.sure he got on the bars. He warms up as the competition goes along. A

:56:34. > :56:37.couple of errors in qualification that got everything right in the

:56:38. > :56:43.team final, and he can get a bit cleaner in the final today and get

:56:44. > :56:48.right up there. The gymnasts are coming out now, behind us. We have

:56:49. > :56:52.seen the Japanese come out as well. There is Kohei Uchimura, just below

:56:53. > :56:55.us. David Belyavskiy in the foreground, Deng Shudi, we mentioned

:56:56. > :57:03.he is the man who said watch out, Kohei Uchimura, I am on my way! The

:57:04. > :57:08.gymnast from the USA, some could luck, he is handy too? Yes, I think

:57:09. > :57:16.that he could do well today, I think that he will turn up. -- Sam

:57:17. > :57:19.Mikulak. The men had a slightly disappointing result for the USA but

:57:20. > :57:24.I think he would do well today. There is the great man, Kohei

:57:25. > :57:30.Uchimura, will he do that? He's been a bit tentative in Rio? He has, but

:57:31. > :57:34.he has so much experience. He has won everything since the 2008

:57:35. > :57:38.Olympic Games and he knows exactly how to perform under pressure as a

:57:39. > :57:42.result. I would not be surprised if someone beats him today.

:57:43. > :57:49.Interestingly, with Nile in fifth place, he is in the top group, there

:57:50. > :57:58.he is being introduced... At the Rio Olympic Arena, he is next to his

:57:59. > :58:03.Chinese opponent, Deng Shudi. As far as the other group is concerned, Max

:58:04. > :58:07.is beginning on the pommel horse. We know that Max likes to have things

:58:08. > :58:11.in certain order. He is like that himself, there are great signs for

:58:12. > :58:17.him. This is the order where they achieve greatness in the past? It

:58:18. > :58:21.was. It is his favourite piece. It will get his nerves settled. If he

:58:22. > :58:25.gets through, he can hopefully continue the rest of the competition

:58:26. > :58:30.knowing he has it under his belt. He scores what he can, and it is a

:58:31. > :58:35.great start to his bed. This is the lad all eyes will be on... He was

:58:36. > :58:44.rested in the team final, Oleg Verniaiev. It was an interesting

:58:45. > :58:53.tactic, from the Ukrainian team. He came out and did all six pieces, as

:58:54. > :58:58.did Max, and as did Deng Shudi, so really Oleg Verniaiev is the

:58:59. > :59:02.freshest of all of them. In the parallel bars, they wanted to

:59:03. > :59:07.give him a feel for the Arena again but make sure he is well rested. And

:59:08. > :59:11.give him the best chance today. This light is also worth keeping an eye

:59:12. > :59:20.on as well. If he hates, anything can happen? Yes, Deng Shudi has a

:59:21. > :59:23.huge start value. He can be inconsistent and we have not seen

:59:24. > :59:29.him hit in the competition yet. But if he is clean today, he can go

:59:30. > :59:32.far. The second of the two Brazilian gymnasts in this final. You will

:59:33. > :59:41.probably struggle to hear our commentary as they are competing...

:59:42. > :59:45.But Sam Mikulak fell in qualification on this piece of

:59:46. > :59:49.apparatus he is starting on. Listen as we introduce Max

:59:50. > :59:55.Whitlock... CHEERING Looking calm.

:59:56. > :59:59.Aware of what is going on. He does not look too frightened, Beth? He

:00:00. > :00:06.doesn't look too frightened? He's very much in his own, preparing for

:00:07. > :00:13.that major first piece. He does not want to take too much on what is

:00:14. > :00:18.going on around him. -- take in. I'd tell you what, let's have a little

:00:19. > :00:26.piece, shall we, from Max Whitlock. This is the man behind the chalk.

:00:27. > :00:34.Gymnastics is pretty much my life. I have done it since I was seven years

:00:35. > :00:42.old. It has been an amazing journey. It has made me who I am today. In

:00:43. > :00:48.2015, Max Whitlock won and historic world gold, a stunning feat. Before

:00:49. > :00:52.that, a mystery illness had almost ended his year before it began. It

:00:53. > :00:56.was a stressful time, the beginning of last year and I remember saying

:00:57. > :01:01.to my parents at the beginning, I feel the fittest I have ever been.

:01:02. > :01:04.Two weeks down the line, the English Championships came up, first year of

:01:05. > :01:11.the competition and it was deteriorating rapidly. In a few

:01:12. > :01:16.weeks, I couldn't even do a few skills and a combination. It came

:01:17. > :01:21.back as glandular fever and it was a bit of a relief. It lasted three

:01:22. > :01:26.months. It motivated me even more to get back in. That helped me push so

:01:27. > :01:34.hard to produce the results I did at the end of the year. Max Whitlock is

:01:35. > :01:40.the poll vault world champion -- pommel horse world champion. The

:01:41. > :01:45.first time a British men's gymnast has won gold at the World

:01:46. > :01:50.Championships. How many times a day are you here? Six days a week,

:01:51. > :01:55.ranging between 5-7 hours training. This training centre is a great

:01:56. > :02:01.atmosphere. And all the guys I train with. He has never been a superstar.

:02:02. > :02:06.I was told once he would struggle to maintain it because his feet don't

:02:07. > :02:14.point and stuff like that. His speech don't point? Yes. But because

:02:15. > :02:23.he has feat that bend the other way, it helps him stick on his dismount.

:02:24. > :02:27.It is very strange how it all works out. His forte is being over to

:02:28. > :02:31.compete under pressure calmly without being affected by it. This

:02:32. > :02:38.is your specialism. You have mastered this? This is my strongest

:02:39. > :02:43.pace, definitely. It is the piece that a lot of my focus is on all the

:02:44. > :02:47.time. I do double sessions on the pommel horse every day. That is a

:02:48. > :03:03.beautiful routine. That was First Class. I was only 19

:03:04. > :03:09.years old. Not expecting to produce any results. That was the first time

:03:10. > :03:17.a British team got a medal in 100 years. For me to get an individual

:03:18. > :03:21.bronze medal was unreal. I didn't feel any kind of under the radar, I

:03:22. > :03:26.was so pleased with what he achieved that day. How does it feel to have

:03:27. > :03:32.overtaken Louis Smith a bit? You are top dog now. It is still a very

:03:33. > :03:40.close competition. We both have very high start scores. It is pushing us

:03:41. > :03:44.both even more which is the best thing for our team. What is it like

:03:45. > :03:49.going into an Olympic Games as reigning world champion? Some people

:03:50. > :03:54.see it as more pressure but I see it as a result I've got in my bag. It

:03:55. > :03:56.calms me knowing I've got that title behind me. The Olympics is the

:03:57. > :04:08.pinnacle of everyone's career. It is the pinnacle of Max's career

:04:09. > :04:18.and the pinnacle of Nile Wilson's career. 20 years old. Deng Shudi,

:04:19. > :04:32.got the bronze in the all round a couple of years ago. Ryohei Kato, 22

:04:33. > :04:37.years old now. That top group on floor, Max's group will be starting

:04:38. > :04:42.on pommel horse. Max Whitlock from Great Britain just going through his

:04:43. > :04:49.routine. The question is, which routine will he go for at this

:04:50. > :04:55.stage? First piece, will he go all-out for difficulty? I don't

:04:56. > :04:58.think he will. His easy routine is a seven point you start which is one

:04:59. > :05:02.of the biggest in the world. I think you will do that and just to get him

:05:03. > :05:09.settled. So he can potentially score at 16 with that. Also wrong setting

:05:10. > :05:16.aside as is Christine Still. A very good evening. The interesting thing

:05:17. > :05:20.is, because of qualification, because some of these gymnasts did

:05:21. > :05:31.count a few falls, it is a bit sporadic with where everyone is

:05:32. > :05:39.placed around the arena. We saw Manrique Larduet and if he hits with

:05:40. > :05:43.the vault, it could be... Nile Wilson qualified with the fifth

:05:44. > :05:50.highest place. Just going through his routine.

:05:51. > :06:01.Making sure everything is right. All gymnasts have to work on every

:06:02. > :06:10.single piece and the gymnast with the highest score on all six pieces

:06:11. > :06:14.wins. Nile Wilson of Great Britain. What a great moment for him, working

:06:15. > :06:22.with the great gymnasts of the world. Starting them off. Needs

:06:23. > :06:30.every landing secure like that. Really clean roll-out. He is a very

:06:31. > :06:54.stylish, controlled gymnast. He has a section of the routine

:06:55. > :07:04.close to the floor. A beautifully held balance. A complete mixture of

:07:05. > :07:11.explosive power and control. Here comes the power. Double twist. Front

:07:12. > :07:20.twist. A little hop backwards. One more tumble to go. Big, strong round

:07:21. > :07:26.off into a triple twist. Very clean. Very nice opening for Nile Wilson.

:07:27. > :07:31.Great stuff him, nothing too costly. Not at all, just a few hops here and

:07:32. > :07:35.there. He will be very happy with that start. Quite confident

:07:36. > :07:39.performance for his first time at this apparatus. That will boost his

:07:40. > :07:44.confidence for the rest of the pieces. The gymnasts have been here

:07:45. > :07:56.for about three hours. There is a warm up gym at the back. Off the

:07:57. > :07:59.vaults runway now. Very stylish. Handspring onto the platform,

:08:00. > :08:05.straight front somersault with twist off. Not the most difficult but very

:08:06. > :08:11.stylish. He ruptured his Achilles last year so just playing it safe

:08:12. > :08:15.now. It wasn't as hard as some of the other vaults we will see today.

:08:16. > :08:21.But he has hardly got any deductions there. He has gone for the

:08:22. > :08:26.cleanliness of the vault. Just one and a half twist in that somersault.

:08:27. > :08:31.We will see some people put two and a half. This is a key piece as far

:08:32. > :08:37.as tactics are concerned. Yes, it is one of the times when you can go all

:08:38. > :08:41.out and try to get the highest score but if you miss your feet or get

:08:42. > :08:46.your vault slightly wrong, you can get zero and then that is your

:08:47. > :08:51.competition over. To give you an idea of the scoring, these gymnasts

:08:52. > :08:55.get extra marks for doing harder routines or vaults so keep your eye

:08:56. > :09:01.on the difficulty score. That is added to the execution. Nile Wilson

:09:02. > :09:09.is put into second at the moment. There are a lot of gymnastics to go.

:09:10. > :09:14.Deng Shudi from China, 24 years old, bronze in the all-around at the

:09:15. > :09:21.World Championships last year. He is a very explosive gymnast. Look at

:09:22. > :09:26.that height. Just kept himself inside the floor area. And that was

:09:27. > :09:41.a deep landing. All these gymnasts will be nervous

:09:42. > :09:51.and excited to be here. Very nice. The full twist into the two and a

:09:52. > :09:54.half. We are seeing huge difficulty. Double twisting, double back but he

:09:55. > :10:11.scurried back there and had his chest right down on the landing.

:10:12. > :10:21.One and three quarters somersault which you roll out. This is the big

:10:22. > :10:24.final tumble. The triple twist, the halfback, it is difficult routine

:10:25. > :10:30.and there were a couple of little errors. Sometimes, if you can push

:10:31. > :10:36.it for the difficulty, you allow yourself a little bit of leeway with

:10:37. > :10:42.the execution. If you think back to Nile Wilson's routine was 6.5 and

:10:43. > :10:48.Deng Shudi posted a 6.9 so we will see if he is given out by the

:10:49. > :10:52.difficulty judges. This is a three and a half twist into another punch

:10:53. > :10:57.twist. You will get combination bonus. But there were a lot of deep

:10:58. > :11:03.landings and steps and he will be deducted quite heavily. Going for

:11:04. > :11:07.that style might not always be the best choice. That was quite a deep

:11:08. > :11:11.landing and it meant the somersault wasn't quite high enough so the

:11:12. > :11:15.judges deduct not just for the deep landing but for the lack of height.

:11:16. > :11:26.We joined the pommel horse, this is the Russian champion. This is a 6.7

:11:27. > :11:32.difficulty. He is in the pommel horse final. Good handstand.

:11:33. > :11:53.Really nice circle, up into a business RE. Slight... Oh, he is

:11:54. > :11:58.off. He lost his way, his body was in the right place, why did you not

:11:59. > :12:01.continue? Looked like he wasn't sure whether to come back down and by the

:12:02. > :12:04.time he had stopped and thought about it, he had lost all of his

:12:05. > :12:11.momentum and just decided to come off. There he goes, trying again, he

:12:12. > :12:13.has completed it this time. Such a shame because he is a really nice

:12:14. > :12:26.pommel worker. Travelling backwards. Up into the

:12:27. > :12:35.dismount. What a shame for the Russian champion. And he knows. What

:12:36. > :12:40.could have been, the first piece of apparatus. I know you have to have

:12:41. > :12:45.the next apparatus mentality but, such shame. It is tough, especially

:12:46. > :12:48.when it is one of your best pieces. It is probably the only final he is

:12:49. > :12:54.in so he would have wanted to impress the judges, to prove to them

:12:55. > :12:59.here's a medal prospect. But he really just came to a standstill. I

:13:00. > :13:04.think you are slightly off-balance and he had stopped just to see if he

:13:05. > :13:07.could slow himself down and then decided he was completely in the

:13:08. > :13:15.wrong position. So he just dropped off.

:13:16. > :13:29.Nile Wilson is one of the top scorers so far. Deng Shudi with

:13:30. > :13:38.14.966, just ahead of Nile Wilson. We have had a 15.066 on the vault.

:13:39. > :13:43.They do generally consider the vaults to be a little bit easier to

:13:44. > :13:48.score hire an ban on the floor. It is one of the highest scoring pieces

:13:49. > :13:54.of apparatus. Usually when you start, you will be top of the

:13:55. > :14:03.leaderboard. So far, Nile Wilson is looking strong. It is going to plan.

:14:04. > :14:09.Over to the pommel horse now. Max Whitlock will be the last gymnast up

:14:10. > :14:14.onto the pommel horse. It is a bit of an anxious wait. You can see his

:14:15. > :14:21.coach two along there. The gymnasts are allowed a coach and a medical

:14:22. > :14:22.person with them. 13.34 the Russian athlete. Game over for him, I'm

:14:23. > :14:42.afraid. At this early stage. Marry us Georgiou from Cyprus. 18

:14:43. > :14:48.years old, the youngest gymnast in this all-around final. Going for a

:14:49. > :14:57.5.2 difficulty. He will concentrate on the execution. Round off, flipped

:14:58. > :15:02.on, double twist. He looks like he is hobbling a little bit. He looked

:15:03. > :15:11.hurt his foot. I noticed as he was running, he was gritting his teeth.

:15:12. > :15:17.Something wasn't quite right. 15 scored.

:15:18. > :15:25.Now we join the current champion, Kohei Uchimura, looking to retain

:15:26. > :15:30.his title. And that is a good start doing so.

:15:31. > :15:41.Superhigh tumbles. A little hop on landing. But he really elevates from

:15:42. > :15:51.the floor so well. Wonderful height, wonderful pace to the routine. You

:15:52. > :16:05.see the tension in the shoulders. That was wonderfully performed. It's

:16:06. > :16:13.a really fast-moving routing. He doesn't need lots of time in the

:16:14. > :16:21.corners, building himself up. He kicked himself out of the tuck

:16:22. > :16:29.before he rolled. The final triple twist. It was worth the pause.

:16:30. > :16:35.Things are looking good for Kohei Uchimura. He is the current Olympic

:16:36. > :16:41.silver medallist on floor, and that is why, his competition off to an

:16:42. > :16:52.absolute storm. I thought his first two tumbles, he had some small hops

:16:53. > :17:03.on the landings. Marios Georgiou is way down the field. He started off

:17:04. > :17:08.quite nervy, actually. But halfway through the routine, he went back to

:17:09. > :17:19.the old Kohei Uchimura. The message is clear.

:17:20. > :17:26.Look at the style through the air, Chris. He has got this new ethos. In

:17:27. > :17:30.London, he wasn't in a happy place because it was all about winning

:17:31. > :17:35.medals. Now he seems to have a new way of doing his gymnastics, and

:17:36. > :17:40.it's all about grace and perfection. That is his challenge to himself.

:17:41. > :17:44.When you're so long undefeated, he burst onto the scene as a youngster

:17:45. > :17:53.in Beijing and took the silver medal. Since then, all the major

:17:54. > :17:58.championships and Olympic titles, he has won. So you have to issue

:17:59. > :18:02.yourself a new challenge, and his challenge is to get as near to the

:18:03. > :18:12.perfect ten. He was a bit of a way off here. This lad is Uchimura's

:18:13. > :18:19.toughest competition, Oleg Verniaiev. He has been rested for

:18:20. > :18:29.the team final, so he is as fresh as he could be. The first of six pieces

:18:30. > :18:39.of apparatus. The question is, how can Verniaiev take the pressure?

:18:40. > :18:55.Nicely so far. He qualified top. That is a lot on your shoulders.

:18:56. > :19:07.Super. Just a bit of a pike down on that landing. Real concentration on

:19:08. > :19:15.his face. Very good variety of forwards and backwards twisting. We

:19:16. > :19:22.have seen him over the years promise so much and often falter, but he has

:19:23. > :19:28.had a heavy competitive programme in the last two years, done loads of

:19:29. > :19:36.Grand Prix, trying to settle himself for competition. And that is the way

:19:37. > :19:41.you'd do it. Uchimura says, you have to be at your best to beat me, and

:19:42. > :19:49.when I have says, let's go. That was a super start, Dan. It was, and it

:19:50. > :19:52.was one of Verniaiev's lower scoring pieces of apparatus. Now he can

:19:53. > :20:07.carry on with the rest of his competition. Now we go to the pommel

:20:08. > :20:11.horse, Max Whitlock with the first of his six pieces of apparatus in

:20:12. > :20:20.the men's all-round final. World champion on this piece of apparatus.

:20:21. > :20:41.How hard will he go? Great start with the scissor to handstand.

:20:42. > :20:47.He has done the hard part of his routine now, just to needs to keep

:20:48. > :21:07.his concentration to finish off. Append the dismount. That is really

:21:08. > :21:12.good. He's through! What a fantastic start to the competition for Max

:21:13. > :21:18.Whitlock. It's great when you start on your good piece, as long as you

:21:19. > :21:23.do it well. And he showed a real masterclass there. Wonderful style

:21:24. > :21:27.and high difficulty, Dan. Yeah, that will be a seven point to start. He

:21:28. > :21:32.had to do extra turn on his dismount because he went to come off and was

:21:33. > :21:37.not quite in the right balance, so he turned again. That is not a

:21:38. > :21:46.deduction. In fact, do you get more for more terms? No, the maximum

:21:47. > :21:52.dismount would get the same points. And of course, when Dan says the

:21:53. > :22:02.maximum is an E, each of the moves are given a value, A being a .1, B

:22:03. > :22:13.being two and so on. So you want to finish with at least an E. The

:22:14. > :22:22.special requirement is actually a D. Verniaiev is down at the moment in

:22:23. > :22:27.fifth. Here is Uchimura's compatriot, Ryohei Kato. Each

:22:28. > :22:33.country is allowed two gymnasts. He is the last gymnast to go on floor.

:22:34. > :22:41.He has made quite a few floor finals in the past at international level.

:22:42. > :22:55.A lot of these gymnasts performing these three and a half twists.

:22:56. > :23:07.We have seen two very good twisting series. Ooh, a setback there. The

:23:08. > :23:19.judges will take .3 off for that. He made sure of that one.

:23:20. > :23:45.Super kick out. Final triple twist and another very good landing. A

:23:46. > :23:51.really good set of floor routines today, opening this competition.

:23:52. > :23:56.Well, the top six gymnasts in this first group a role without too many

:23:57. > :24:05.major deductions. Look at that for a score for Max Whitlock. He goes into

:24:06. > :24:11.the lead. Damn, it is a long way around six pieces of apparatus. That

:24:12. > :24:15.is a great start, though. He starts on his strongest and finishes on his

:24:16. > :24:21.second strongest piece, which is floor, so he will be happy with that

:24:22. > :24:30.start and hopefully, it would give him the confidence. Other gymnasts

:24:31. > :24:38.around the arena include Larduet. He scored 15.1 three. Are you ski

:24:39. > :24:44.scored 15 on floor and Sam Mikulak scored 14.6 on pommel. He will be

:24:45. > :24:51.pleased to have got that out of the way. Sun yes, he fell in

:24:52. > :25:00.qualification so on his first piece of apparatus, he will be happy. With

:25:01. > :25:07.deductions, Ryohei Kato will be pleased with that score. You have to

:25:08. > :25:13.head for an average of over 15 to get that magical score of 91. So

:25:14. > :25:18.that is the first of six pieces over with. Max will now move over to

:25:19. > :25:31.rings and then vault, which is a key piece for him.

:25:32. > :25:43.All eyes on Uchimura. How will he handled this pressure? Can he retain

:25:44. > :25:52.that Olympic title? You can see the difficulty score to Eddy Yusof's

:25:53. > :26:05.right side. Very good, double somersault, double pike. Well

:26:06. > :26:11.controlled. That puts him into fifth place in his rotation. If Manrique

:26:12. > :26:18.Larduet nails his fault, the next piece for him, he could make it onto

:26:19. > :26:25.the podium -- if he nails his vault. He has had a problem with vault

:26:26. > :26:31.since he has been here. He made a really big mistake in the

:26:32. > :26:37.qualifications. He nearly got a zero, so it will be interesting to

:26:38. > :26:44.see what he does. He is controlling the rings really well. These

:26:45. > :26:55.strength moves linked together are what give you extra marks. Yes, and

:26:56. > :27:06.he is a really strong gymnast. Nice control of the top of the swing.

:27:07. > :27:07.Thank you very much, he says. I'm going to concentrate on vault, and

:27:08. > :27:52.he will need to. Another chance to see Max Whitlock.

:27:53. > :27:55.That was the Busnari, one of the highest valued elements on the

:27:56. > :28:03.pommel horse. It was a key part of his routine. And Nile Wilson, who

:28:04. > :28:09.started off this men's all-around Olympic final on floor. He was very

:28:10. > :28:17.steady. It's not easy being the first gymnast up, and I feel for

:28:18. > :28:20.Nile. 20 years of age, and he's working alongside Uchimura, who has

:28:21. > :28:33.to be an absolute idol. He will remember this. But he is such a

:28:34. > :28:41.competitor, Nile. He seems to thrive in this environment. Somehow, he

:28:42. > :28:48.just absorbs the atmosphere. To be here in Rio, for him, this is an

:28:49. > :28:53.added bonus. Every competition I have seen him in, he is gaining

:28:54. > :29:03.confidence, and he seems to be getting better every time. That is

:29:04. > :29:06.very much the case. You coach gymnasts and they can look as good

:29:07. > :29:11.as each other in the actual training, and then you get to the

:29:12. > :29:17.actual competition and won rises and the other shrinks with the nerves.

:29:18. > :29:22.It is part of the skill of being a competitor, and is probably the one

:29:23. > :29:27.bit a coach cannot teach. It is in their make-up. But let's not speak

:29:28. > :29:35.too soon, Nile has a long way to go! But from what we have seen, he

:29:36. > :29:39.thrives on it. Uchimura seems to be trying to enjoy the occasion. I

:29:40. > :29:45.suspect he is still thrilled with the team medal. That is what he came

:29:46. > :29:53.for. It is lovely to retain a title, but the team title was missing from

:29:54. > :29:58.his glittering medal collection. Deng Shudi made that bold statement

:29:59. > :30:02.that he was going to beat Uchimura here in Rio. Probably wants to

:30:03. > :30:09.forget that now! We shouldn't be saying it on his behalf. Damn, you

:30:10. > :30:14.can choose how wide to have the pommel horse, can't you? Yes, you

:30:15. > :30:18.can move the handles in or out. I used to do a lot of work with the

:30:19. > :30:23.handles to fit my hands in the middle. If you do a lot of work on

:30:24. > :30:30.the pommel horse, you usually have them closer. It is the hardest to do

:30:31. > :30:31.hand movements in the middle? Most elements are a grade up when you do

:30:32. > :30:37.it in the middle. Deng Shudi, and in very important

:30:38. > :31:13.pommel horse rooting for him. Slight stutter there. Will be quite

:31:14. > :31:24.heavily deducted. Settling into his routine now. He has managed to get

:31:25. > :31:33.through it. His coach says, that will do. It

:31:34. > :31:40.wasn't the highest difficulty, it is certainly a 6.3. As a world

:31:41. > :31:44.all-around bronze-medallist, he knows that consistency is the key.

:31:45. > :31:49.Sometimes don't risk the difficulty, stick with the execution on the

:31:50. > :31:58.risky pieces. That's right. He almost came unstuck on a couple of

:31:59. > :32:04.pieces. This is the big story here. Absolutely vital, this vault.

:32:05. > :32:12.Manrique Larduet. He has been practising vaults that much in

:32:13. > :32:15.training. He has not. He still put up a six star there so he is

:32:16. > :32:24.obviously really going for it so hopefully, he can make this count.

:32:25. > :32:30.Let's find out. Yes, plants well. He fell but it was a huge amount better

:32:31. > :32:35.than the qualification one. Straight front with two and a half twists. He

:32:36. > :32:38.got so much height off the top of the vault and I think that landing

:32:39. > :32:43.was just down to not having done enough. You could see with his

:32:44. > :32:47.coach, everybody, such a team effort, so much work has gone into

:32:48. > :33:00.being here in this team final. They risked everything there.

:33:01. > :33:06.When... His qualification, he did a terrible vault and almost got a zero

:33:07. > :33:10.and he hasn't had a chance to be back out on this podium since then.

:33:11. > :33:17.They only had the 32nd warm up we saw so I think it was a pretty good

:33:18. > :33:21.effort. This is his second piece. European silver-medallist in the

:33:22. > :33:28.all-round competition. Key has been looking superb.

:33:29. > :33:36.Picking up into the circles, there is the 360 on one arm. Onto the one

:33:37. > :33:42.handle, making sure he counts all his special requirements. Skype legs

:33:43. > :33:53.split there. Just managed to get back into his rhythm. -- slight leg

:33:54. > :34:07.split. Travelling along the horse. Finish it off. Up into the dismount,

:34:08. > :34:12.finishes off quite nicely. A bit of a sigh of relief there. There were a

:34:13. > :34:16.couple of points in that routine when it looked like he was about to

:34:17. > :34:25.come off, I think you fought quite hard to stay on so he will have been

:34:26. > :34:31.happy to stay without falling off. It is a story of what could have

:34:32. > :34:37.been. I wonder why he wasn't training it. I think you must've had

:34:38. > :34:41.a slight injury he was protecting it before this final and trying not to

:34:42. > :34:46.injure it any more. We watched podium training quite carefully. He

:34:47. > :34:53.definitely didn't vault in podium training. I do think this gymnast

:34:54. > :35:00.has lovely style on pommel horse. He zips around. He just picked it up to

:35:01. > :35:06.perfection as far as timing is concerned. We watched euros and we

:35:07. > :35:11.were very impressed with him there. He has had such a turbulent career,

:35:12. > :35:15.sometimes it has worked for him and sometimes it hasn't. He seems quite

:35:16. > :35:16.content within his gymnastics right now and he's happy with his

:35:17. > :35:39.difficulty level. The school board is clear and

:35:40. > :35:46.Uchimura will be introduced to the crowd. This is his third piece of

:35:47. > :35:51.apparatus. All gymnasts have to do all six pieces here. Looked slightly

:35:52. > :36:07.off on the handstand there. Looks like he settled back down into

:36:08. > :36:11.his routine. Goes down to the end. He does the side support circles so

:36:12. > :36:20.he tries not to get the deduction for skewing. Forwards and backwards.

:36:21. > :36:25.It is not the hardest of routines but he is making sure he just gets

:36:26. > :36:33.from start to finish. He is playing safe. You could see everything just

:36:34. > :36:37.a little bit shorter but playing safe in difficulty and going well

:36:38. > :36:44.with execution. Definitely. I think that is what he is aiming for today.

:36:45. > :36:50.If he falls, he is going to get beaten. Pommel is such an easy piece

:36:51. > :36:55.to fall off on and I think you just wanted to get from start to finish.

:36:56. > :36:59.Get this routine done and dusted out of the way. Yes, he knows there are

:37:00. > :37:03.other people in the field that if he opens the door at all, can take the

:37:04. > :37:08.opportunity away from him, he always works very well within himself. You

:37:09. > :37:14.never get the impression he is working with the most difficulty he

:37:15. > :37:21.can do. But it is always easier to chase them be chased and he is

:37:22. > :37:31.definitely being chased today. Relief for Gucci Mourot. Four pieces

:37:32. > :37:34.to go from here. -- Uchimura. He will finish on the high bar. He

:37:35. > :37:40.hasn't been without his problems on the high bar.

:37:41. > :37:59.Just below the 15. Such a bleak score on the floor though so it will

:38:00. > :38:03.even its way out. Oleg Verniaiev makes his way up to the pommel

:38:04. > :38:09.horse. He is in the pommel final as well. He is doing a seven difficulty

:38:10. > :38:13.is the question is, will he go all out for difficulty or will he pull

:38:14. > :38:18.it back a little bit? Let's find out. This is the apparatus where you

:38:19. > :38:25.can really claw some marks back. Qualified for the final and he

:38:26. > :38:35.usually scores quite well. Started off well.

:38:36. > :38:44.He manages to say safe. Looked like he was off balance a little bit

:38:45. > :38:47.then. But he got it back. Triple Russian into the middle. Again

:38:48. > :38:55.looking slightly off-balance but he managed to fight it.

:38:56. > :39:09.Really nice one handled work. He moves across the halls. He has done

:39:10. > :39:13.the hard part of his routine. He is fighting, he is battling through the

:39:14. > :39:18.whole way of this routine. He has finished. This could still be a big

:39:19. > :39:24.score but not quite as big as qualification. What a fight that

:39:25. > :39:28.was, goodness me. How impressive. You can see how much he has matured

:39:29. > :39:33.from when we have seen him over the years when he would have just caved

:39:34. > :39:39.in. He fought every inch of the way. A few times he could have come off

:39:40. > :39:47.but he managed to fight and gripped that little bit harder to make sure

:39:48. > :39:55.he stayed on. It was super to see. Her satellite gymnast. His touch is

:39:56. > :40:04.so easy. He was miles off-balance then. -- he is such a light gymnast.

:40:05. > :40:13.Even though off-balance, he didn't really lose style. Kept those legs

:40:14. > :40:19.locked together. You were impressed, Dan? Yes, impressed he managed to

:40:20. > :40:25.stay on. There were a few times he could have come off and it would

:40:26. > :40:34.have been so easy to come off. Verniaiev yes fighting for every

:40:35. > :40:41.tenth. That is big. That is really big. He will be going head-to-head

:40:42. > :40:51.against Gucci Mourot through the competition. -- Uchimura. Looks like

:40:52. > :40:56.there is the tenth in it at the moment. Max Whitlock was in the lead

:40:57. > :41:05.after the first piece of apparatus and he is about to go on the rings.

:41:06. > :41:12.Just waiting for Sam's score to come in.

:41:13. > :41:20.As soon as Sam's score is in, I believe we will see Max Whitlock.

:41:21. > :41:33.Current leader after the first piece. At the moment, Kohei Uchimura

:41:34. > :41:39.is in the lead and Verniaiev in second place. Belyavskiy in third.

:41:40. > :41:49.The school board is clear behind Max Whitlock and he is ready to go. This

:41:50. > :41:55.is one of the pieces of apparatus that Max has had to work very hard

:41:56. > :42:00.at in his last couple of years. To make himself truly competitive in

:42:01. > :42:09.this top level. Good strength elements to start. Lovely control at

:42:10. > :42:13.the top of the handstand. These are the bits he does with good control.

:42:14. > :42:19.Tell us about these somersaulting moves. They are the hardest to make

:42:20. > :42:22.most consistent, especially the double back somersault, to come out

:42:23. > :42:27.of it. Hold the handstand without the rings swinging too much because

:42:28. > :42:33.you can get deductions for the rings swinging. It is really quite hard

:42:34. > :42:40.but he has perfected it well. His form is really quite nice on this

:42:41. > :42:44.piece of apparatus now. That is one of his weaker events but he has hit

:42:45. > :42:48.that really well. He has been working quite hard over the last

:42:49. > :42:51.couple of years to bring that up. Max Whitlock looking relaxed and

:42:52. > :42:58.enjoying himself. I was impressed with that because as you said, Dan,

:42:59. > :43:05.he controls the top. This is one of the strength elements. That is a

:43:06. > :43:08.requirement to have a strength element and he performs it so well.

:43:09. > :43:16.He will hardly get any deductions for it. A little deduction for the

:43:17. > :43:25.step back on landing. It would be the hugest difficulty, he is not

:43:26. > :43:26.really guy. -- it won't be the hugest difficulty, he is not really

:43:27. > :43:42.bulky guy. Backward scissor to handstand,

:43:43. > :43:53.picking up into his routine. Onto the one handle.

:43:54. > :44:03.There is the Russian, down to the end. Good lad.

:44:04. > :44:09.He needs to make sure he stays on and gets from start to finish.

:44:10. > :44:18.Forwards and backwards. He is at the end now. Up into the dismount and

:44:19. > :44:23.there we go. Again, another fight. Nile Wilson did everything he could

:44:24. > :44:29.to stay on and stay in contention. Well done. Yes, well done. That was

:44:30. > :44:33.a fighting performance. Interestingly, Great Britain didn't

:44:34. > :44:39.use Nile Wilson on the pommel horse in his team competition so it is

:44:40. > :44:43.obvious in one of his weaker pieces. Max Whitlock will take that score

:44:44. > :44:47.every day of the week. That is a really good score for him on the

:44:48. > :45:00.rings. He will be happy with 14.5 plus.

:45:01. > :45:09.So he's working hard. You can see good hand placement there. That was

:45:10. > :45:13.one of the areas where he could easily have gone wrong. The

:45:14. > :45:19.important thing is that he has not fallen. There were a few deductions

:45:20. > :45:25.from the judges, but not a whole mark, which can be crucial. And also

:45:26. > :45:36.psychologically dancing to your -- are damaging to your all-round

:45:37. > :45:45.chances. He posted a 6.1 difficulty in qualification. Good work. Yeah,

:45:46. > :45:55.not a bad score for one of his weaker events. It will be rings next

:45:56. > :46:01.for this top group. And the vault, which is where Max Whitlock will be

:46:02. > :46:08.heading. There is a lot of jeopardy over Max Whitlock's vault. Yeah, in

:46:09. > :46:15.qualifications, he fell on it. He has been working hard in the gym of

:46:16. > :46:20.them last few days. If he can land it, it will be a huge score to

:46:21. > :46:24.propel him towards the top of the leaderboard. It is game on if he can

:46:25. > :46:26.get that landing on vault. Stay with us, because it will be happening

:46:27. > :46:43.very shortly. Just waiting for the parallel bars score

:46:44. > :46:58.to come in. Eddy Yusof will be the next gymnast to go. There are two

:46:59. > :47:07.Swiss gymnasts in the top 24. The coast is clear for Eddy Yusof.

:47:08. > :47:13.Qualified with a score of 13.3, so he didn't have a happy time, but

:47:14. > :47:15.looking to put everything right. Swiss gymnasts are known for their

:47:16. > :47:59.work on the parallel bars. He has put the ghost to rest. All

:48:00. > :48:15.the gymnastics is finished in the arena,

:48:16. > :48:33.so there will be a march round and onto the halfway stage.

:48:34. > :48:42.Well, it's with six pieces of apparatus. They really can mix and

:48:43. > :48:49.match and change the standings tremendously. Different people have

:48:50. > :48:54.real different strengths, don't they, Dan? Yeah. Max, for example,

:48:55. > :48:57.started on one of his strong events, so he went to the top of the

:48:58. > :49:04.leaderboard, and then it evens itself out as people do their

:49:05. > :49:08.favourite apparatus. It is unusual for specialists to also make the

:49:09. > :49:16.all-around. None of the real big rings workers work all-round. With

:49:17. > :49:21.pommel being your specialism, you are much more likely to be an

:49:22. > :49:25.all-rounder as well. Yeah, if you are a real specialist on rings, you

:49:26. > :49:29.tend to be quite bulky, and that affects your swing on the pommel

:49:30. > :49:38.horse. So it can make the all-rounder hard. That's right. I

:49:39. > :49:43.think probably, when you work in that top group, with everybody

:49:44. > :49:48.working so excellently, you go one of two ways. You either sink a bit

:49:49. > :49:54.into yourself, or you're lifted by them, and Nile looks to me like his

:49:55. > :49:58.lifted by them. Definitely. I think he's enjoying being in that company

:49:59. > :50:05.and it will be great experience for him, going around with the top

:50:06. > :50:10.people in the world. Max no doubt will have been through this

:50:11. > :50:14.competition in his mind time after time, hoping for the perfect

:50:15. > :50:20.performance and starting on pommel horse to give him that boost and

:50:21. > :50:25.then moving over to rings. We have said there is a bit of jeopardy with

:50:26. > :50:31.this vault. If it comes off, it will be something else. This man, Kohei

:50:32. > :50:39.Uchimura, is desperate to retain that all-round title. It is going to

:50:40. > :50:44.be very close. I always think Max is a little bit more insular. He

:50:45. > :50:53.probably wouldn't be bothered whether Uchimura will be in his

:50:54. > :50:59.group or someone else. He is very much involved with his own self.

:51:00. > :51:03.Yeah, he doesn't take much notice of what is going on around him. He

:51:04. > :51:19.concentrates on what he had to do next. These are the replays for Eddy

:51:20. > :51:25.Yusof. Was that held long enough? There will be a slight deduction for

:51:26. > :51:32.the legs split. That is no doubt why there is a bit of a delay for the

:51:33. > :51:45.judges. That score puts him in fifth place. That completes the round.

:51:46. > :51:51.Please proceed to the next apparatus. We will have confirmation

:51:52. > :52:10.of how things stand in just a moment. It's going to be very close.

:52:11. > :52:19.Marcel Nguyen for Germany, superb gymnast on this piece of apparatus,

:52:20. > :52:23.Olympic silver medallist in London. He is really good on this apparatus.

:52:24. > :52:28.He performed his own move in qualification, but he has started

:52:29. > :52:36.off playing safe to make sure he gets a good score. He makes such

:52:37. > :52:50.light work of the parallel bars. Slight mistake there.

:52:51. > :53:05.Almost perfect landing. That looked so uncharacteristic of him when you

:53:06. > :53:09.saw that little splay in execution. Yeah, his under bar work is usually

:53:10. > :53:24.his best. He must have slipped slightly. Cat over Japan has started

:53:25. > :53:37.well -- write you hate Catto. -- Kato.

:53:38. > :53:47.Breaking into flares. Crowd pleaser! That was a nice routine. The coach

:53:48. > :53:53.doesn't look too impressed with that. I liked it! This gymnast got a

:53:54. > :54:34.silver in the all-around three years ago.

:54:35. > :54:43.Yes, his best apparatus is the parallel bars, where he should rise

:54:44. > :54:48.up the leaderboard. He has got his weaker ones out of the way. He did

:54:49. > :54:59.ever so well to struggle through that. Yeah, he took a 0.3 hits

:55:00. > :55:06.rather than the whole mark, which keeps him in the competition and

:55:07. > :55:10.keeps his confidence high as well. That is how you build the

:55:11. > :55:15.difficulty, getting up onto the one handle, adding in those extra twists

:55:16. > :55:20.and turns and working up and down. Yes, there are special requirements

:55:21. > :55:25.and you have to hit them all. Uchimura was slightly off on that

:55:26. > :55:32.handstand. That was one of the only main deductions in his routine. It

:55:33. > :55:37.will be interesting to see whether or not he gets more or less relaxed

:55:38. > :55:43.as the competition goes on. He has been on top of the world now for

:55:44. > :55:48.seven years. He has won everything. Yeah, and he's usually so far ahead,

:55:49. > :55:57.but he will be nervous looking at the scoreboard. There are two

:55:58. > :56:05.gymnasts very close to him. He is zero point 60 ahead, nothing. From

:56:06. > :56:14.fifth all the way down to 18th place, they have scored 29. So it is

:56:15. > :56:16.really tightly packed. David Bally esky is slightly off the pace in six

:56:17. > :56:49.-- David Belyavskiy. Strength and swing are the

:56:50. > :56:55.requirements for the rings. How long do you have to hold the strength

:56:56. > :57:00.elements for, Dan? A minimum of two seconds to make sure it gets

:57:01. > :57:04.counted. Quite a lot of gymnasts were counted three in their head

:57:05. > :57:11.because while you are holding the strength elements, you tend to count

:57:12. > :57:20.a bit quicker! And here are the nice swinging elements. Feet a bit low? A

:57:21. > :57:21.tiny bit, yes. But he managed to stop the rings from swinging to

:57:22. > :57:40.avoid deductions. Ooh! Very deep on landing. That will

:57:41. > :57:44.be costly. He went for the difficulty on the dismount, and it

:57:45. > :57:51.has not paid off today. That will be a five tenths deduction for the

:57:52. > :57:56.dismount and that big step. It is a bit of hit and hope. As far as the

:57:57. > :57:59.medals are concerned, you have to go all out and keep your fingers

:58:00. > :58:03.crossed that it comes off. Some days it does, and some days it doesn't.

:58:04. > :58:09.He is one of the gymnasts in that area where if he just goes steady,

:58:10. > :58:15.he probably can't penetrate, he has got to go for it, would you say

:58:16. > :58:20.that, Dan? Yeah, he really wants to push for the medals, and to do that,

:58:21. > :58:24.he had to lift his game a bit. That was what he tried to do. Over to the

:58:25. > :58:47.vault, then. Sun Sasaki vaulted fantastically in

:58:48. > :58:51.qualification, and he has again. Absolutely massive. It is named

:58:52. > :58:59.after a gymnast we will see in the vault final, drag Pella skew. It is

:59:00. > :59:10.the extra half turn on the end. You will see a lot of gymnasts adding in

:59:11. > :59:34.extra moves to build the difficulty. Belyavskiy did not get a bad score.

:59:35. > :59:48.Uchimura has not got the highest difficulty on the rings. So he needs

:59:49. > :59:54.to be faultless here, needs to give nothing away in execution. Really

:59:55. > :59:59.nice. All his strength positions are almost perfect. Instead of going all

:00:00. > :00:05.out trying to pack in full of difficult strength moves, he has

:00:06. > :00:15.gone for, not easy, but easier and trying to be as perfect as he can.

:00:16. > :00:20.That looked pretty perfect to me. Tight legs on all these somersaults.

:00:21. > :00:23.Does well to swing to the top of the handstand. And when we say no

:00:24. > :00:38.deductions, that is what we mean. It will be Max Whitlock's revolt

:00:39. > :00:46.against the rings of Kohei Uchimura. -- Max Whitlock's vault.

:00:47. > :00:53.If you want to watch the Rugby Sevens, you can see it on the Red

:00:54. > :00:59.Button. That is Fiji versus New Zealand. That is live for you now.

:01:00. > :01:12.We will stay here. This is the men's all-around final. Marcel Nguyen on

:01:13. > :01:17.the high bar. Swinging beautifully. One of the older gymnast in the

:01:18. > :01:21.competition. A bit of a veteran. That was a lovely back somersault

:01:22. > :01:27.over the bar. We will probably see it with a twist now and we do. In a

:01:28. > :01:32.straight position as well. Really nicely performed. Back into the

:01:33. > :01:44.centre of the bar. Very impressive long swing on one arm. Difficult

:01:45. > :01:50.pirouetting combinations. You can see how he times the timing of the

:01:51. > :01:58.swing. Now he accelerates, lifts, two twists, super landing. That was

:01:59. > :02:13.good work from Marcel Nguyen. He has had some Olympic tattoos damn. --

:02:14. > :02:17.done. Will Max Whitlock go for the triple whipped twist or will he

:02:18. > :02:22.stick with the double twist? I think he will go for the triple, the

:02:23. > :02:31.greater question is whether he will land it. Come on, Max. So important

:02:32. > :02:35.to get the big block. Wrap the twist in, beautifully performed. A tiny

:02:36. > :02:50.bit off-line but that was one of the best faults I have seen him do for a

:02:51. > :02:57.while. -- best vaults. That is him now, he is going for it. He is in

:02:58. > :03:04.contention. As is this man. Oleg Verniaiev. This is a fight between

:03:05. > :03:13.Kohei Uchimura of Japan, Great Britain's Max Whitlock and the

:03:14. > :03:16.Ukrainian gymnast, Oleg Verniaiev if you add all the difficulty scores

:03:17. > :03:28.up, this gymnast has the most difficult routines. I think he is

:03:29. > :03:34.even a Hull ahead of Kohei Uchimura. It is who goes clean. Lovely

:03:35. > :03:43.multiple somersaults into the crucifix. Super shape. Really nice.

:03:44. > :03:50.Slight wobble in the handstand there but he corrected it straightaway.

:03:51. > :03:55.You have to swing backward to can stand, and forward to handstand.

:03:56. > :04:04.Those are two of the requirements. Need a big discount. Anything Kohei

:04:05. > :04:12.Uchimura can do, I can, to! Dismounts don't come much better

:04:13. > :04:23.than that. Max Whitlock will be feeling a lot better after that

:04:24. > :04:31.vault. Over the magical 15. He needed to score 15 or over. He was

:04:32. > :04:37.always going to score 15 plus. This will be very close and you can see

:04:38. > :04:42.the execution from Oleg Verniaiev. The style. He won't give much away

:04:43. > :04:47.execution, that is for sure. He opens up his hands there, just to

:04:48. > :04:52.show he hasn't got a false grip, so they cannot take any tenths of

:04:53. > :05:01.deduction. Up into the dismount and look at this for a landing. Clicks

:05:02. > :05:10.the heels together and says, thank you very much, let's have the score.

:05:11. > :05:21.15.3 for the rings, we have just heard in the arena. He is 45.8 66.

:05:22. > :05:23.Halfway round. What is Kohei Uchimura's answer to this? We move

:05:24. > :05:47.onto parallel bars. Lin Chaopan, one of the gymnast with

:05:48. > :05:59.the one of the highest difficulties when you count them all up. He

:06:00. > :06:05.scored a 15.233 in qualification. You will post a six difficulty, we

:06:06. > :06:12.think. There it is on the scoreboard to his right hand side. The judges

:06:13. > :06:17.are ready, is. You can see the markings, it is so vital to get the

:06:18. > :06:22.pacing absolutely right when you hit that springboard. He focuses and

:06:23. > :06:26.goes. The judges don't judge this run but as soon as he hits the

:06:27. > :06:32.board, they do. Triple twist, a pace to the side. Big vaulting. The men

:06:33. > :06:40.really are using this platform fantastically. It is a launch pad.

:06:41. > :06:46.They are making sure they hit the front of it. It really springs them

:06:47. > :06:49.right up into the sky. It then makes it easier to fit twists and

:06:50. > :06:55.somersaults in and then spot the landing. The kit hasn't really moved

:06:56. > :07:00.on that much over the years but vault is one piece where it has. It

:07:01. > :07:06.used to be a long, thin horse and the wooden box but these days, it is

:07:07. > :07:08.all about safety. Even know what we are seeing is quite extraordinary as

:07:09. > :07:16.far as difficulty levels are concerned. This vault is fabulous,

:07:17. > :07:20.almost like a springboard. You get different styles off this platform

:07:21. > :07:22.but this platform is a lovely, whippy one and if they hit it right,

:07:23. > :07:42.they can launch up. Gymnast need over 15 if they want a

:07:43. > :08:02.score the highest scores. It is all about consistency as things average

:08:03. > :08:13.out. Chris Brooks. Nice to start. He's quite a powerful gymnast.

:08:14. > :08:39.Moving towards the end of the bars. Back into the middle. Just off on

:08:40. > :08:45.that handstand there. Does dismount. Steady routine. Double front favour

:08:46. > :08:55.by quite a few gymnast this year in this competition. It is graded one

:08:56. > :09:04.tenth higher than the double pike and a lot of gymnasts are starting

:09:05. > :09:09.to put a half turn on the end of it. It was a good piece for the

:09:10. > :09:16.Americans, parallel bars. They all have quite high difficulties and

:09:17. > :09:22.they don't lose much. That was a little error. He bounces legs

:09:23. > :09:34.against his arms. Kicked out to spot the landing.

:09:35. > :09:44.We have just heard that Manrique Larduet, the gymnast, we were

:09:45. > :09:48.questioning his vault, he has decided to leave the arena. I don't

:09:49. > :09:53.know if you started an parallel bars or not but he has decided he has

:09:54. > :10:00.left. They said due to injury and we were questioning as to whether that

:10:01. > :10:06.was why he hadn't vaulted more. LAUGHTER

:10:07. > :10:11.Someone is certainly happy. That is quite a major thing for Larduet to

:10:12. > :10:14.leave because he was the silver-medallist at the World

:10:15. > :10:18.Championships so that opens the competition up a little bit. I think

:10:19. > :10:23.it was all or nothing for him and he didn't make his vault. If he had

:10:24. > :10:37.landed it, I think you would have stayed in the competition but with a

:10:38. > :10:42.fall he probably won't medal. Sorry we're not bringing you more

:10:43. > :10:51.gymnastics but we are focusing in on the Brazilian gymnast, two of which

:10:52. > :10:56.are in this final. Great to have two Brazilians in this final, there is

:10:57. > :11:03.one, Mariano. It really adds to the atmosphere. Two teams, Brazilians,

:11:04. > :11:13.the men and the women and the roof was coming off every time their

:11:14. > :11:17.gymnasts were competing. This is now very, very close. Just looking at

:11:18. > :11:23.this, we have a screen here that suggests what is going on.

:11:24. > :11:33.Verniaiev, Kohei Uchimura and Max Whitlock all very close indeed.

:11:34. > :11:41.45.741 four Max Whitlock and 45.3994 Kohei Uchimura. Not used to seeing

:11:42. > :11:49.Kohei Uchimura in third half round. No, but we have to remember, he

:11:50. > :11:54.hasn't done vault yet. Parallel bars and high bars as well, his big

:11:55. > :11:57.scoring pieces. You can see the pressure etched on the faces of the

:11:58. > :12:09.gymnasts while they are waiting to move around. One or two performers

:12:10. > :12:17.left. One of the gymnast who has been waiting and waiting is Great

:12:18. > :12:22.Britain's Nile Wilson and that is because right you hope Cato has just

:12:23. > :12:27.come in, it has taken over five minutes. They must have been

:12:28. > :12:36.discussing whether one of the elements wasn't quite there. Great

:12:37. > :12:48.Britain's Nile Wilson. He has one of the hardest rings routine in this

:12:49. > :12:55.group. A 6.4 difficulty, which is massive for a 20-year-old. Nile

:12:56. > :12:58.Wilson is from Leeds gymnastics. Always been hugely impressive

:12:59. > :13:04.through the junior ranks. Has he got the strength now? He has been

:13:05. > :13:08.working hard over the past couple of years on his strength in the gym. He

:13:09. > :13:14.really thought this was a PC could gain some marks on. Right now at

:13:15. > :13:18.this Olympic Games, you seems to have done that and he is a really

:13:19. > :13:24.good competitor on the rings. That was very well done. Two double

:13:25. > :13:33.somersaults, another impressive strength element. He has had a long

:13:34. > :13:39.way, it is not easy but shows great control. Up into the handstand. And

:13:40. > :13:45.again, such discipline with the rings. And the landing and the

:13:46. > :13:52.dismount. Didn't seem to bother him, the wait. He is through, three

:13:53. > :14:00.pieces for Nile Wilson and things going well for him in this meant's

:14:01. > :14:04.all-around Olympic final. A really good piece for Nile Wilson, he would

:14:05. > :14:08.have gained confidence after managed to battle after staying on the horse

:14:09. > :14:12.and he comes into one of his stronger events next so he can

:14:13. > :14:16.really show off to the crowd with the strength positions. You can see

:14:17. > :14:19.in the crucifix, hardly any deductions from the judges because

:14:20. > :14:36.of his wrist position. Wonderful style through the air.

:14:37. > :14:40.CHUCKLES He is getting a name for himself

:14:41. > :14:47.with his release at the end of his dismount. He is a real crowd

:14:48. > :14:55.pleaser. He shows if he is happy with his routine. There, her

:14:56. > :15:08.showing, yeah. That puts him up into 12th, 14.9 33. Nile Wilson is

:15:09. > :15:12.climbing. We really have a bit of a backlog here on the rings.

:15:13. > :15:22.We have a bit of a backlog. Deng Shudi will be the last of the

:15:23. > :15:56.gymnasts to go. The ability to hold your body weight

:15:57. > :16:07.is so important here. The upper body strength is enormous. He almost

:16:08. > :16:10.dipped below. Yes, to make sure you don't get heavily deducted, you have

:16:11. > :16:16.to come level in the crucifix, and it looked like he tried too hard and

:16:17. > :16:24.came in a bit low. But he bounced back well. Swinging a bit on the

:16:25. > :16:28.rings. IMac, and taking the somersaulting actions straight into

:16:29. > :16:32.the dismount. He didn't quite release at the right moment. No, it

:16:33. > :16:39.was a nice combination and he looked like he opened up to try and find

:16:40. > :16:46.the floor, but wasn't fully rotated. Shudi was going out for all-out

:16:47. > :17:02.difficulty, but not going to plan for him.

:17:03. > :17:29.He just spits his legs a little bit -- splits his legs.

:17:30. > :17:41.He has fulfilled his requirements, got his difficulty, goes for the big

:17:42. > :17:46.dismount. He is doing everything he can. He must have had a few falls in

:17:47. > :17:54.qualification, because he is in the last group and seems to be

:17:55. > :17:57.performing well here. He had a 6.2 difficulty scoring qualification and

:17:58. > :18:03.if he did the same routine again, he didn't need to give too much away.

:18:04. > :18:08.No, he didn't. He has hit that routine quite nicely. It didn't look

:18:09. > :18:19.like the most difficult routines, but he got through it with not much

:18:20. > :18:24.to take off. The forces that go through the legs as you land from

:18:25. > :18:31.that height are quite amazing. Yeah, they are. This is going to be very

:18:32. > :18:56.close at the top. Still a few more gymnasts to go.

:18:57. > :19:02.That will be on high bar. We are just waiting for Eddy Yusof's score.

:19:03. > :19:13.Then it will be Andreas Bretschneider, the 27-year-old.

:19:14. > :19:17.Bretschneider has got a move that he has admitted to be the first person

:19:18. > :19:21.to do it, which is therefore named after him. But he has to catch it

:19:22. > :19:27.and hang on the bar to get credit for it. This is his third try, so we

:19:28. > :19:30.would all love to see him hang on this time round. Well, the world is

:19:31. > :19:52.watching. Ooh, double twist in the straight

:19:53. > :19:58.position, but he didn't get both hands on. Such a challenge. That was

:19:59. > :20:02.his move that he had submitted. It was his third attempt at trying it

:20:03. > :20:08.and he missed again, so we he will have to wait until the next World

:20:09. > :20:13.Championship to try and get it in the code of points. You can see how

:20:14. > :20:18.far he was off with his second hand. Just didn't bring it out and over

:20:19. > :20:23.the bar. Of course, now he has to carry on with a Mark deduction. --

:20:24. > :21:03.A1 Mark deduction. Another super dismount. That was a

:21:04. > :21:09.shame. We were hoping he would make it. Of course, and it's a sobering

:21:10. > :21:17.thought that every gymnast has to go on high bar. The leading group will

:21:18. > :21:21.be over there very shortly. Max Whitlock will be over there in two

:21:22. > :21:27.rotations, and Uchimura and the Nyah. Oh, dear! He had actually

:21:28. > :21:54.finished the two twists. And the same thing in the tuck

:21:55. > :22:00.position. He risked everything, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. You

:22:01. > :22:07.have to try your best, of course, at the Olympic Games. That is his

:22:08. > :22:22.team-mate, Nguyen. He was the 2012 silver

:22:23. > :22:31.medallist in the all-around. I think he has taken a break from training

:22:32. > :22:47.in this four-year cycle. What a shame, but good effort. There is the

:22:48. > :22:51.leader, Oleg Verniaiev. In silver medal position at the moment, Max

:22:52. > :22:58.Whitlock of Great Britain, and Kohei Uchimura for Japan,

:22:59. > :23:03.uncharacteristically, is in third. A chance to see Ryohei Kato's rings

:23:04. > :23:10.routine. Dan, maybe you can tell us why it took so long to mark this

:23:11. > :23:38.routine. But into the inverted crucifix.

:23:39. > :23:46.Might he have not helped that long enough? I think it was OK. It would

:23:47. > :23:59.have been very harsh not to credit it. There was nothing much wrong

:24:00. > :24:02.with that routine. Maybe they were talking about not crediting the

:24:03. > :24:18.front somersault, but that would have been really harsh.

:24:19. > :24:27.This lad has a very high difficulty level on this piece of apparatus.

:24:28. > :24:32.This is his strongest piece, Dan. Yes, he does a dismount of the end

:24:33. > :24:34.of the bars which no one else in the world does, so it is exciting to

:24:35. > :25:17.watch. Oh, he landed with his chest quite

:25:18. > :25:22.down, so he will be deducted, still impressive. Just a joy to watch this

:25:23. > :25:27.level of gymnastics. This level of difficulty is unprecedented, Dan.

:25:28. > :26:15.Let's bring everybody up-to-date. And Nile Wilson is in 14th. Again,

:26:16. > :26:23.let's have a look at his triple twisting vault. You can see his

:26:24. > :26:28.coach at the bottom of the screen, screaming with joy! He has got so

:26:29. > :26:33.much more height there than before. And with Scott's reaction, you can

:26:34. > :26:39.see as soon as he lifted off the vault, you could see it was going to

:26:40. > :26:45.be a good vault. Each time he has performed it out here, it has got

:26:46. > :26:51.better. It has. Max is a bit like that. He warms up into the

:26:52. > :27:00.competition. Now, this gymnast has left the arena now after this vault.

:27:01. > :27:05.He hasn't got injured on the vault. It was an injury he already had.

:27:06. > :27:11.That was a risk he was willing to take, to try and get in the medals.

:27:12. > :27:17.It hasn't come off. He will not medal now, so here's going to

:27:18. > :27:22.protect himself. Great shame. Much has been expected of him in these

:27:23. > :27:26.championships. He is only a young gymnast, the first gymnast from

:27:27. > :27:40.Cuba. This is a vital vault for Kohei Uchimura. Lovely precision.

:27:41. > :27:45.Absolutely huge, and done to perfection. Yeah, that was really

:27:46. > :27:49.quite nice. He is putting the pressure on the Nyah, so it will be

:27:50. > :28:04.interesting to see if Verniaiev can do his fault.

:28:05. > :28:13.The chest being low, they might debate, but it is so clean. -- they

:28:14. > :28:53.might deduct. DAN WALKER: and coverage of the

:28:54. > :28:57.gymnastics continues right now on BBC One. If you want to continue

:28:58. > :29:04.watching that, switch over right now. We are now going to concentrate

:29:05. > :29:09.on rugby sevens here on BBC Four. It's coming up to 9.30 back in the

:29:10. > :29:12.UK. Let me let you know what has happened in the last hour. It has

:29:13. > :29:20.been an amazing medal rush for Team GB. Gold for Joe Clarke in the men's

:29:21. > :29:23.K-1, the kayak. We had a gold for Jacques Delors and Chris Mears in

:29:24. > :29:27.the three metre men's synchronous springboard final, the first ever

:29:28. > :29:33.Olympic diving gold for Team GB. Bronze medal for Sally Conway in the

:29:34. > :29:37.judo, and earlier we saw that bronze for Steven Scott in the men's double

:29:38. > :29:42.trap as well. All the medals are coming in in the last few hours. We

:29:43. > :29:46.have got Team GB coming up later in the rugby sevens, against Argentina.

:29:47. > :29:51.We will show you the first quarterfinal, which was Fiji against

:29:52. > :29:54.New Zealand as well a bit later. Let's join our commentary team for

:29:55. > :30:01.the second quarterfinal in the men's rugby sevens. This has been one of

:30:02. > :30:04.the highlights of the game so far. It is Japan against France. We can

:30:05. > :30:10.join Sir Clive Woodward and Eddie Butler.

:30:11. > :30:14.COMMENTATOR: This is the quarterfinal, which pitches two

:30:15. > :30:21.runners-up against each other. France against Japan. Japan were in

:30:22. > :30:29.Great Britain's group. Japan came second to Great Britain in that

:30:30. > :30:34.group. They have both known defeat. They have both known the relief of

:30:35. > :30:41.getting this far. France upset Australia and Japan at New Zealand

:30:42. > :30:48.in their opening game. It is raining here at the Deodoro Stadium. And all

:30:49. > :30:53.the silky skills we have seen are not entirely compromised, but they

:30:54. > :30:55.are challenged by what has turned into a very slippery surface, a very

:30:56. > :31:14.greasy ball. Japan thoroughly deserved to be in

:31:15. > :31:29.this semifinal. Elusive runners out wide.

:31:30. > :31:45.Simple speed over 60 or 70 metres and France also have the roomy

:31:46. > :31:55.Vakatawa. They are technically so good. Japan's technique at the

:31:56. > :32:01.breakdown so good. They kicked the ball down field here. Lomano Lemeki

:32:02. > :32:12.will aim for set piece in the French half. So they will set up a set

:32:13. > :32:16.piece camp. France don't look too uncomfortable without the ball.

:32:17. > :32:22.Defending well but over two minutes, they haven't tasted the ball. France

:32:23. > :32:32.have defended very well. Lote Tuqiri. And Kuwazuru also in the

:32:33. > :32:37.line-out. Just two of them. Kuwazuru not straight, France will have a

:32:38. > :32:45.chance. They can take that offer the defensive operation well performed.

:32:46. > :32:49.Frederic Pomarel, their coach. Japan will be fuming about line-out. They

:32:50. > :32:54.played so well in two and a half minutes. A not straight line out,

:32:55. > :33:02.give the ball to France. The French number four, Terry Bouhraoua, the

:33:03. > :33:05.captain, keeping a very close eye on this, he is amazing. He came into

:33:06. > :33:15.rugby because he had anger management issues. Virimi Vakatawa.

:33:16. > :33:20.Fijians Frenchman. Let the ball go, got back up again, perfectly

:33:21. > :33:27.allowed. Jonathan Laugel. Now, Damien Cler, he brought something to

:33:28. > :33:38.the French team when he stepped into the starting line-up this morning.

:33:39. > :33:44.This is good work by Jeremy Aicardi. France have got a penalty. Vakatawa

:33:45. > :33:54.dropped a Japanese defender but also dropped the ball. Working backwards.

:33:55. > :34:07.Dall'igna. Damien Cler scores the first try for France. He has a big

:34:08. > :34:12.-- here's a big, powerful forward. Bringing some real power to this

:34:13. > :34:16.French Sevens side team. A really good start from France because they

:34:17. > :34:22.defended very strongly. You can see the power of these big French

:34:23. > :34:31.forwards. These conversions are really important. Terry Bouhraoua, a

:34:32. > :34:38.very good hit rate so far. Six convergence of the game so far.

:34:39. > :34:46.Damien Cler had some wonderful slipped past his one-handed, that

:34:47. > :34:56.was a thunderous finish. Excellent kick by Terry Bouhraoua. Just watch

:34:57. > :35:01.the height that Terry Bouhraoua put Sunnis to give them a chance to get

:35:02. > :35:09.the ball. I think they will try to win this back. It is coming the way

:35:10. > :35:20.of Laugel. A player in front. A free kick. To Japan. A French chaser in

:35:21. > :35:25.front of Bourahoua. Those are the mistakes you cannot make in seven

:35:26. > :35:29.aside rugby. This is knockout, trying to get through to the Olympic

:35:30. > :35:33.semifinal. Just kick it off and keep it in play. That will test his anger

:35:34. > :35:43.management! LAUGHTER Absolutely! Here we go. Japan

:35:44. > :35:58.through Hikosaka. Change of direction by Hikosaka.

:35:59. > :36:06.Lemeki comes back. They lose possession. They are in the French

:36:07. > :36:17.22, France quite happy to take the scrummage. They won't be so happy to

:36:18. > :36:25.see Jeremy Aicardi on the floor. You doesn't look in a good way. It was a

:36:26. > :36:28.great tackle. It has launched the ball and we see Damien Cler go

:36:29. > :36:35.through for the first French try here. Japan will be ready... Looks

:36:36. > :36:42.like they are going to make a change. He is not in a good way. You

:36:43. > :36:49.might have done a forearm in the tackle.

:36:50. > :37:03.Celebration, Damien Cler. Back live. We see Steeve Barry coming on. Barry

:37:04. > :37:07.has played in all three France's games for France so he will be used

:37:08. > :37:18.to the pace. This is really unfortunate for Aicardi and it looks

:37:19. > :37:23.like a wrist or a forearm. Seven aside is a very physical game.

:37:24. > :37:34.Players really put their bodies on the line for their team. 22-metre

:37:35. > :37:42.line, one minute to go. Terry Bouhraoua to feed the scrummage. Out

:37:43. > :37:48.clean enough. Long boot down the field, but it was taken back into

:37:49. > :37:55.the 22, straight out. Advantage Japan. A basic error for France.

:37:56. > :38:00.Just keep the ball long and keep it in play. The kick was a good option,

:38:01. > :38:05.there was a good chase on, but it just gives the ball back to Japan.

:38:06. > :38:11.Winning this line-out would be absolutely crucial to them. 22

:38:12. > :38:17.seconds to go. It is a pretty full line-out.

:38:18. > :38:32.Q is our -- Kuwazuru won the line-out. Lemeki. Now, slight

:38:33. > :38:47.hesitation. Until Goya sends it wide. Hano. Goto. Get a good pass

:38:48. > :38:54.back to Goya. Hano. Hikosaka. Kuwazuru. Hano.

:38:55. > :39:03.Lote Tuqiri. They have lost the ball again. Break-out by France. Vakatawa

:39:04. > :39:12.in open space. He has set up the ruck instead. Laugel playing

:39:13. > :39:16.scrum-half now. Terry Bouhraoua does enough for the moment. Let's get to

:39:17. > :39:23.the interval with the lead. France lead Japan in the second

:39:24. > :39:27.quarterfinal 7-0. A really good quarterfinal here. Japan against

:39:28. > :39:32.France. Terry Bouhraoua taking the option to put the ball off the

:39:33. > :39:38.field. I think France could still have attacked there. They are seven

:39:39. > :39:44.points up. I was impressed with the defence of the French team. Japan

:39:45. > :39:48.technically one of the best teams, they got a lot of possession but

:39:49. > :39:55.France did very well. Japan won't panic. They have been many

:39:56. > :40:01.situations before. They took the scalp of the Kiwis yesterday. The

:40:02. > :40:07.quarterfinals. One game away. Just two points to Team GB, Japan lost.

:40:08. > :40:18.This is the finish by big Damien Cler. Change of the hands, the ball

:40:19. > :40:31.into the outside hand. France is doing the switchback. The coach

:40:32. > :40:38.Pomarel. Just two minutes in the interval. In the quarterfinals, we

:40:39. > :40:43.still have seven minutes each way, and in the semifinal tomorrow. The

:40:44. > :40:50.final is ten minutes each way. There is rain on the lens. It started to

:40:51. > :40:56.rain at lunchtime here. These kick-offs at 5pm. We have had a

:40:57. > :41:04.couple of hours of... It is not rain and wind, it is just sort of

:41:05. > :41:10.vertical drizzle. France are a very talented team but two key players,

:41:11. > :41:18.Vakatawa and Terry Bouhraoua, two stars of this team. Japan have been

:41:19. > :41:22.an absolute credit to the Olympic Games in Rugby Sevens. No doubt

:41:23. > :41:32.every single one of the team has arrived fully prepared for this. The

:41:33. > :41:45.rain is coming down even heavier. The wind does pick up. The flags

:41:46. > :41:51.billowing in the breeze. France back into their own 22. It crosses in

:41:52. > :41:57.front of Steve Parez said Japan in with a real chance. It is taken by

:41:58. > :42:02.Lote Tuqiri and the try is awarded. Japan on the board. With a

:42:03. > :42:13.successful conversion, they will be level. Tuqiri, he knew exactly what

:42:14. > :42:20.he was doing. They can't stop to Kiraly. Cousin of Lote Tuqiri,

:42:21. > :42:25.well-known in Australia. Bringing real footballing presence and skills

:42:26. > :42:35.to this Japanese team. Just before half-time, France had the ball, kick

:42:36. > :42:39.it out immediately. Japan with a miskick. This is when everything was

:42:40. > :42:44.going right for Japan. The try by Lote Tuqiri. The conversion by

:42:45. > :43:02.Lomano Lemeki missed. Terry Bouhraoua. Laugel. That is at

:43:03. > :43:11.scrum-half. Just a little test for Stephen Parez. Wet weather rugby for

:43:12. > :43:16.you, Clive. I think that was good tactics because you are pinned in

:43:17. > :43:24.your 22. The Japanese defence is really pushing up. You have to

:43:25. > :43:32.relieve the pressure slightly. Shohei Toyoshima is coming on.

:43:33. > :43:44.Japan will have the throw in at the line-out. It wasn't the best throw

:43:45. > :43:55.last time. Another one for France. Vakatawa. Outside. Inside. Can't get

:43:56. > :44:03.the Pars away. -- pass away. Jonathan Laugel on the far side. He

:44:04. > :44:09.sort of slipped into touch so we will start again with the line-out

:44:10. > :44:12.at almost exactly the same situation. Vakatawa is down looking

:44:13. > :44:15.very uncomfortable, just down below us. He looked like he was in a lot

:44:16. > :44:31.of pain there. Just waiting for the referee Richard

:44:32. > :44:37.Kelly of New Zealand to turn, look and see... Virimi Vakatawa doesn't

:44:38. > :44:43.look too good at all. He tried to run it off. The Japanese know he is

:44:44. > :45:02.the star man, the danger man. He knows the importance of that. You

:45:03. > :45:09.are two points down with four minutes to go. That is not good news

:45:10. > :45:12.for Japan, not what they wanted but the good news for France is that

:45:13. > :45:22.Vakatawa seems to be walking all right. Good scrum from the French.

:45:23. > :45:32.He has dropped it. And it is advantage Japan. No advantage, Japan

:45:33. > :45:38.will have been put in at the scrum. The conditions have changed, this is

:45:39. > :45:46.the first time we have had rain here in the rugby sevens. The women's

:45:47. > :45:50.competition was hot, this is dank. Vakatawa spilling that, you wonder

:45:51. > :45:57.when a player picks up an injury, is their star player but you might want

:45:58. > :46:06.to keep them on the site. -- keep him on the side. The put-in by

:46:07. > :46:10.Toyoshima, another penalty for Japan and they have all the pressure in

:46:11. > :46:24.this second half. A real scramble for the ball. It comes into the

:46:25. > :46:40.hands of Lemeki. Tuqiri, through the hands, Lemeki, Goto held up. Superb

:46:41. > :46:43.tackle by Vakatawa. No! Vakatawa is certainly making up for his error

:46:44. > :46:51.which has put the team under this pressure. That was an amazing

:46:52. > :46:57.tackle. Still advantage Japan. Back they come, Lemeki again. That has

:46:58. > :47:04.gone loose. Japan with numbers outside, a long, looping pass to

:47:05. > :47:12.Fukuoka. Can he get a pass away? He can but it is slow to Soejima but

:47:13. > :47:17.that will not count. The referee's whistle has gone and the path was

:47:18. > :47:28.adjudged forward. Wonderful defence from the French -- the pass.

:47:29. > :47:39.Slightly forward pass. Again, France are deep in their own half. I think

:47:40. > :47:44.with one minute 56, they had to kick long downfield and put the chase on.

:47:45. > :47:50.They are playing a lot of football in their own 22 in these poor

:47:51. > :47:56.conditions. Lakafia is on in the front row, the only row of the

:47:57. > :48:01.scrummage. The big bunch of hair at the back. France need to be

:48:02. > :48:11.disciplined and organised in their exit here. Bouhraoua got it away but

:48:12. > :48:15.they have not made that much ground. Japan will have another opportunity.

:48:16. > :48:22.It is a 2-point lead. Ever since the rain began to fall, the scores have

:48:23. > :48:29.been much rarer. Japan have been technically very good in the rain.

:48:30. > :48:36.Four man line-up for Japan but again it is Jonathan Laugel who comes away

:48:37. > :48:41.with it. France are kept that in, no, it was knocked on. I think it

:48:42. > :48:47.was Lakafia who just got a finger to it. He may have knocked it forward.

:48:48. > :48:54.I think France had to go long downfield. They have given this ball

:48:55. > :48:59.away again. Japan will be pleased it is a scrum and not a line-out in

:49:00. > :49:07.these conditions and this should come out quickly. What the speed it

:49:08. > :49:16.comes out for Toyoshima. Excellent break. They cannot finish it. But

:49:17. > :49:21.they have an advantage to the right. France rushed across to defend. They

:49:22. > :49:28.seem to plug that gap but there might be a weakness straight through

:49:29. > :49:35.the middle and there is! The try by Teruya Goto! Japan take the lead! 18

:49:36. > :49:40.seconds on the clock, Goto goes in, this is an amazing story. French

:49:41. > :49:44.heads are down, tactically and technically France had to go

:49:45. > :49:49.downfield, you cannot keep defending. What a score from Goto to

:49:50. > :50:05.the delight of the Japanese. The kick to be taken and it is good

:50:06. > :50:13.from City. The pressure told in the end, Japan 12-7 France and Japan are

:50:14. > :50:19.into the last four. France played those last three minutes very

:50:20. > :50:24.poorly. It started with Vakatawa, their key man knocking the ball on

:50:25. > :50:30.and they never recovered. Amazing scenes here. Lakafia, who came on

:50:31. > :50:37.late for France, could not do anything. Japan are through. France

:50:38. > :50:42.will have to come back tomorrow and play in the placing games. It is

:50:43. > :50:49.nothing like what Japan will enjoy. A semifinal at the Olympics. Terry

:50:50. > :50:55.Bouhraoua shakes his head. The Olympic dream is done.

:50:56. > :51:08.What a story in the rugby sevens and it continues more Japan into the

:51:09. > :51:12.semifinals and we will be back shortly to see Team GB take on

:51:13. > :51:17.Argentina in the third quarter final and then it is South Africa against

:51:18. > :51:20.Australia. We can show you what happened in a moment in the first

:51:21. > :51:24.quarter final but to let you know what is happening on BBC One,

:51:25. > :51:30.another chance of a medal for Team GB in the men's all-around final

:51:31. > :51:35.with Max Whitlock is a good position, in the bronze medal

:51:36. > :51:43.position at the moment. That is continuing on BBC One. There are two

:51:44. > :51:48.more rotations remaining. This day has already produced quite a lot.

:51:49. > :51:51.Winning Wednesday? Wonderful Wednesday? Wet Wednesday? The

:51:52. > :51:57.British weather and the Brits are doing well.

:51:58. > :52:05.Gold for Joe Clarke in the men's K1 kayaking, the first Olympics for the

:52:06. > :52:12.man from Stoke and he was overjoyed with the top gong. What a

:52:13. > :52:17.performance from Jack Laugher and Chris Mears in the three metre men's

:52:18. > :52:25.synchronised springboard final, a first ever Olympic gold for Great

:52:26. > :52:29.Britain in the diving. There was also a bronze medal for Sally Conway

:52:30. > :52:33.in the 70 kilograms judo women's final. She was Knights four years

:52:34. > :52:40.ago but this time she goes home with a bronze medal. -- ninth. And the

:52:41. > :52:43.same colour for Steven Scott in the men's double trap as he defeated

:52:44. > :52:49.fellow Brit Tim Kneale in the bronze medal match.

:52:50. > :52:55.And we should tell you about the other bronze medal, two goals and

:52:56. > :53:02.three bronze medals on the third fork Chris Froome in the men's time

:53:03. > :53:10.trial early on. -- for Chris Froome. Babin cattle are of Switzerland took

:53:11. > :53:14.that -- Fabian Cancellara. We will go in back a moment of the third

:53:15. > :53:17.quarter final, Japan have beaten France, Great Britain will take on

:53:18. > :53:22.Argentina shortly and we will have that lived but let's bring you

:53:23. > :53:27.up-to-date with the first quarter final which saw Fiji take on New

:53:28. > :53:32.Zealand just scraped into the last eight having lost two of their pool

:53:33. > :53:38.matches. They were beaten by Great Britain as well and now they take on

:53:39. > :53:43.Fiji in the quarterfinals to try to join Japan. Let's see how they got

:53:44. > :53:50.on and rejoin our commentators, Sir Clive Woodward and Eddie Butler.

:53:51. > :53:59.It is going to be the try in the corner! Osea Kolinisau, the captain.

:54:00. > :54:04.Excellent start from Fiji, showing all their traditional skills,

:54:05. > :54:14.keeping the ball, big and powerful runners. DJ Forbes. He tries the

:54:15. > :54:21.direct route. Not much out there, the little kick and chase from Kaka

:54:22. > :54:26.and it is all about speed and Kaka put New Zealand right back in the

:54:27. > :54:27.game. They are never out of contention, they are about to take

:54:28. > :54:44.the lead. Kunatani, Jerry Tuwai! He is clean

:54:45. > :54:48.through. Recovery from Fiji. Jerry Tuwai looks to the heavens,

:54:49. > :54:55.wonderful footwork, wonderful athlete. New Zealand will be very

:54:56. > :55:02.disappointed with that having absolutely controlled this game. The

:55:03. > :55:08.ball goes out and out to New Zealand from the mend seventh competition as

:55:09. > :55:13.Fiji go through to the last four having won 12-7 -- at the men's

:55:14. > :55:19.sevens competition. Not pretty but you got it done. We got a nice early

:55:20. > :55:23.try but when they took the lead, suddenly they are good at managing

:55:24. > :55:30.the game and the clock was not our friend and we had to score to keep

:55:31. > :55:37.it honest. Huge amounts of possession but they defended very

:55:38. > :55:42.well. Like you say, it is a Herculean effort on both parts. Two

:55:43. > :55:47.excellent teams and we managed to sneak it. When they had a penalty

:55:48. > :55:52.with 40 seconds to go, with all the pressure that has been building up

:55:53. > :55:55.and the head of state is here and the whole nation is watching did you

:55:56. > :56:01.think, please don't let us go out at this stage? There is that and you

:56:02. > :56:06.think I don't want to be there with New Zealand scoring the winning try.

:56:07. > :56:09.We have to keep it simple and do our basics and don't give any more

:56:10. > :56:15.penalties away and wait for our chance to steal the ball and they

:56:16. > :56:24.did that. And to give it a on the many good deeds crucial turnover --

:56:25. > :56:32.Kitione Taliga. There is only one target, and that is the gold medal.

:56:33. > :56:38.So far Fiji have beaten New Zealand and in the second quarter final,

:56:39. > :56:44.Japan have beaten France so we can go live to John Inverdale who is

:56:45. > :56:47.enjoying the weather! Team GB against Argentina and they have been

:56:48. > :56:52.great so far and they will fancy their chances. They will but the

:56:53. > :56:55.Argentinian team are an immense outfit and they will have the most

:56:56. > :57:01.partisan and passionate support here. It is like being in a football

:57:02. > :57:04.ground or in the Rugby World Cup last year in England, the

:57:05. > :57:08.Argentinian fans are out in force to support their team. It is like being

:57:09. > :57:13.at Twickenham or Murrayfield or Cardiff for an autumn international.

:57:14. > :57:16.It is not warm and the rain is persistent and vertical and

:57:17. > :57:21.relentless. It has had an effect on the matches we have seen so far.

:57:22. > :57:26.Those two quarterfinals were very close. We are not having 30 point

:57:27. > :57:31.matches at the moment because there are a lot of knock-on is we did not

:57:32. > :57:35.have earlier. It will be about managing the conditions and the play

:57:36. > :57:40.and taking the opportunities when they come. And as we saw in the last

:57:41. > :57:44.match, one knock-on by a French player ultimately gave Japan

:57:45. > :57:48.possession and the opportunity to score almost on the final whistle.

:57:49. > :57:51.It will be intriguing to see the tactics and whether the teams will

:57:52. > :57:59.change their style is to accommodate the weather conditions. And I worked

:58:00. > :58:04.on Japan. We heard Eddie Butler and Sir Clive Woodward talking about the

:58:05. > :58:07.story they created. They started with the victory over New Zealand

:58:08. > :58:11.and they are still going strong. They ignited the Rugby World Cup

:58:12. > :58:14.last year with that victory over South Africa and they did the same

:58:15. > :58:18.by beating the All Blacks yesterday but they are a really good side.

:58:19. > :58:23.There are so many Japanese film crews here because the growth of

:58:24. > :58:27.rugby in Japan is absolutely huge. That first match in the World Cup

:58:28. > :58:31.against South Africa last year I think was watched by 500,000 people

:58:32. > :58:36.on television. By the time they beat South Africa, the audience for the

:58:37. > :58:39.second match against Scotland was 25 million. They are expecting similar

:58:40. > :58:46.audiences for these matches at the Olympics. And the semifinal against

:58:47. > :58:50.Fiji tomorrow, they are probably talking 30 or 40 million people

:58:51. > :58:54.watching in Japan. And in three years' time the World Cup will be in

:58:55. > :59:01.Japan so it really is a country with the rugby bug. Who knows what the

:59:02. > :59:05.growth of the sport might be in Asia as a consequence? The teams are

:59:06. > :59:11.coming out onto the field, Great Britain and Argentina. There are a

:59:12. > :59:16.lot of British fans, I fancy English and Welsh and Scottish flags or

:59:17. > :59:19.around the ground. They are outnumbered by the Argentinians but

:59:20. > :59:24.this promises to be an enthralling match and I know Sir Clive Woodward

:59:25. > :59:27.and Eddie Butler, Clyde in particular thinks this Argentinian

:59:28. > :59:36.team is potentially very good indeed -- Clive.

:59:37. > :59:42.I do, John. But Team GB, they are very settled and they can absolutely

:59:43. > :59:51.match the power of this talented Argentinian team. It is a beautiful

:59:52. > :59:54.matchup between these teams. And I believe that who manages the

:59:55. > :59:56.conditions best, the weather, that'll take a big part. It is very

:59:57. > :00:07.important for Team GB tactically. Tom Mitchell is the captain, Phil

:00:08. > :00:08.Burgess in the scrum
