:00:20. > :00:27.Hello again. It has hardly been beach weather in Rio, far too wet

:00:28. > :00:31.and windy than that, too wet and windy for any rowing and the second

:00:32. > :00:35.day has been cancelled in the rowing events. That is a great shame

:00:36. > :00:39.because we were due to see the first two finals in the rowing. However,

:00:40. > :00:42.it is always wet and wild in canoe slalom and we have been

:00:43. > :00:46.concentrating on the men's kayak single event, Joe Clarke, the

:00:47. > :00:52.23-year-old from Stokes, is about to go in the semifinal, bidding for a

:00:53. > :00:54.place in the final and we are going to rejoin the common Terry up there

:00:55. > :01:06.right now at the Radical Park. COMMENTATOR: Exciting stuff at the

:01:07. > :01:11.K1, six more paddlers to go, the Russian, Pavel Eigel, based in

:01:12. > :01:14.Moscow, will do a lot of his paddling in Europe and around the

:01:15. > :01:21.French rivers and of course, the World Cup circuit that goes to Po,

:01:22. > :01:29.Augsburg, Prague, your favourite World Cup cause? As I went on some

:01:30. > :01:33.of the bigger watercourses, I loved paddling in the French Alps. He's a

:01:34. > :01:37.heavy paddler, working quite hard, seems quite deep in the water. Not

:01:38. > :01:44.sure he's going to match the best time, 1.13 outside. Not looking

:01:45. > :01:48.quite as sharp and you want to see quick tacking, not necessarily lots

:01:49. > :01:53.of strokes but pulling off the waves at the right point, rolling it. Nice

:01:54. > :01:58.and direct, bit of a heavy bow run, more than we have seen on some,

:01:59. > :02:02.tricky upstream gates, not Reading great -- getting great purchase but

:02:03. > :02:06.that was well executed. Anything within six seconds of the lead is

:02:07. > :02:09.good enough. That is going to put him in a qualifying position for

:02:10. > :02:14.now, actually in qualifying position for the finals. With five slower

:02:15. > :02:21.than him at the moment. Russia's Pavel Eigel, five times he has been

:02:22. > :02:25.in the World Championships, this is his first Olympic Games. He's not

:02:26. > :02:32.far outside, still within two seconds of Peter Kauzer's time. I

:02:33. > :02:35.don't think he is going to match Jiri Prskavec, who has the fastest

:02:36. > :02:42.but an impressive run, top three coming his way. No penalties, 1.81

:02:43. > :02:47.outside and he has gone just outside the, into fourth place, just behind

:02:48. > :02:51.Mike Dawson of New Zealand who will be beside himself with excitement,

:02:52. > :02:56.having not only qualified but qualified well. He certainly did,

:02:57. > :03:02.Pavel Eigel paddled well but did not look as sharp as some of the others,

:03:03. > :03:05.like Dawson and Peter Kauzer but it will be interesting to see whether

:03:06. > :03:09.people can replicate these runs because as we discussed earlier, so

:03:10. > :03:12.many times come people come out and they find it difficult to put down

:03:13. > :03:18.the same kind of consistency of the second run. Just starting to get

:03:19. > :03:22.buffeted by the wind in our commentary position. You might be

:03:23. > :03:26.able to hear it on the microphones. Concern at this event is that the

:03:27. > :03:30.wind starts to blow the gates around. Helen, any sign we will have

:03:31. > :03:34.an issue? The direction has switched. It was coming over the top

:03:35. > :03:38.of the hill and the course was relatively protected but not the

:03:39. > :03:42.case now. Here we go with Pedro Da Silva. He won't be worried about the

:03:43. > :03:46.wind. He just wants to nail his semifinal run, a good crowd in today

:03:47. > :03:55.and the majority have come to support this man, Pepe, as he is

:03:56. > :03:58.known, 23 years old, from Sao Paulo. Some 450 kilometres away from Rio

:03:59. > :04:03.but he has based in selfie over recent years to make sure he can get

:04:04. > :04:10.as much practice as possible on this Deodoro course. In he drops, looking

:04:11. > :04:14.for a time around 92, 93 seconds would be safe qualification. Stay

:04:15. > :04:19.clean and calm and find the perfect line. He is an all or nothing

:04:20. > :04:23.paddler, renowned for hitting it hard and be very dynamic, throwing

:04:24. > :04:32.his boat around and as we can see, he's not saving anything, direct

:04:33. > :04:35.into seven, lovely projection out, across that way and now he wants to

:04:36. > :04:38.wait and use the water, a bit sticky on the exit but ducks inside nine.

:04:39. > :04:41.You talk about trying to keep the boat downstream, that split will do

:04:42. > :04:44.for now and if he loses a second on each section of the course, he still

:04:45. > :04:46.will become to be inside. The boat spinning left-to-right to make sure

:04:47. > :04:52.he got through the gates. That is where he lost the time. Absolutely,

:04:53. > :04:57.we have seen them be fast when they are very direct through the gates.

:04:58. > :05:01.He's picked up a two second penalty as you can seek around 17, looks to

:05:02. > :05:05.be safe enough, he certainly does not want another. That is still good

:05:06. > :05:09.enough for a top five and good enough to go through, on the big

:05:10. > :05:13.wave, below the bottom drop, safely across to 20, chose a very nice line

:05:14. > :05:20.and surely he knows the best way from 19, 20, to 21? Safely through,

:05:21. > :05:24.anything under 80 seconds at 22 is good enough, and he is there or

:05:25. > :05:30.thereabouts. I think Brazil could have a man in the final. He is

:05:31. > :05:34.looking for a top six position. Certainly does not want to be first

:05:35. > :05:40.off in the final but that is good enough, not the best we have ever

:05:41. > :05:45.seen from De Silva, 5.06 outside. And a really fantastic run, big

:05:46. > :05:52.smiles all around and that is just what we needed. He is in sixth,

:05:53. > :05:57.scraping in ahead of Kazuki Yazawa, the Japanese athlete who came down

:05:58. > :06:01.early, who still hasn't got himself a place in the final. That is the

:06:02. > :06:06.touch on 13, with the top of the blade which is rare. He was very

:06:07. > :06:09.tight around the upstream gates, did not give anything away apart from

:06:10. > :06:13.that two second penalty, he did it well. A bit scratchy in some of the

:06:14. > :06:18.downstream stager sequences where he lost time and was not quite tracking

:06:19. > :06:21.in that downward motion, keeping the nose directly downstream, like you

:06:22. > :06:27.said, Patrick, every time the bow of the boat tax left or right, it is

:06:28. > :06:30.slow. You want to see it going like a knife, drawing a line directly

:06:31. > :06:36.between the gates and that is the one they want to be going from. Just

:06:37. > :06:39.a reminder, only 15 competitors left, down from 21, and we are

:06:40. > :06:50.looking to reduce the field to ten for the final this afternoon at

:06:51. > :06:57.3:15pm. At the moment, some will not be competing. Peter Ulster -- Isak

:06:58. > :07:01.Ohrstrom picked up a disappointing run, the first-ever Swede in the

:07:02. > :07:05.semifinal. Now some of the bigger names, Jakub Grigar from Slovakia,

:07:06. > :07:12.lives where the European Championships were held this year.

:07:13. > :07:15.19 years old. He has a huge weight on his shoulders because Slovakia

:07:16. > :07:22.expect medals. He's aggressive with a high stroke rate and also an

:07:23. > :07:27.intelligent paddler. He sets up really thoughtful runs, find the

:07:28. > :07:31.right lines. Waiting on the upstream blade, what we want to see, nice and

:07:32. > :07:36.direct between the gates, the fastest we have seen at the top,

:07:37. > :07:41.very good. He's very direct, using his technique very well. He's

:07:42. > :07:44.renowned for his tight lines in the upstream gates, so watching through

:07:45. > :07:51.17 which is the next upstream and then we have got 19, which is

:07:52. > :07:55.upstream as well. Not a lot of space to play with. That is an interesting

:07:56. > :08:00.way, certainly unique and he might have gained a bit more time, he has,

:08:01. > :08:05.1.92, the margin, this looks as though it could be the fastest time,

:08:06. > :08:10.but remember, touching the gate, two seconds, all the advantage thrown

:08:11. > :08:13.away, no problems from 19 to 20. A superb demonstration of canoe slalom

:08:14. > :08:18.paddling, he was the quickest in the heat, and without that touch, he

:08:19. > :08:22.would definitely have been the quickest but we know he's faster

:08:23. > :08:26.news demonstrating that here. Great power out of 22. Just got the boat

:08:27. > :08:30.accelerating but he used the volume of the stern of the canoe as well to

:08:31. > :08:38.accelerate him downstream and look at the result. 88.8 four. He is the

:08:39. > :08:44.boss. Jack of Gregor of Slovakia, leading the way in the K1. My

:08:45. > :08:50.goodness, that has shown us a thing or two but don't forget that tough

:08:51. > :08:54.yards of Germany won the semifinal by over two seconds and then could

:08:55. > :08:59.not reproduce in the final, missed out on the medals altogether. Jakub

:09:00. > :09:02.Grigar was extremely good on the upstream gates, the best we have

:09:03. > :09:07.seen on pretty much all of them, keeping it really tight around the

:09:08. > :09:11.inside poles, not giving anything away, we saw that punt that he

:09:12. > :09:14.pushed off the wall and it was the projection back out, keeping the

:09:15. > :09:18.speed he had already gained and maintained it on the exit which is

:09:19. > :09:21.what was really special. We've seen people be fast through the

:09:22. > :09:24.downstream gates but he managed to combine both, speed and directness

:09:25. > :09:29.through the staggers and then into the up and using it on exit, that is

:09:30. > :09:32.where he found his time. Three to go and jack of Gregor will be hoping

:09:33. > :09:37.that someone is quicker than him, bizarrely because as we mentioned,

:09:38. > :09:40.the winner of the semifinal is very seldom goes through. Joe Clarke won

:09:41. > :09:48.the semifinal and finished in eighth last year, actually, that was at the

:09:49. > :09:52.pre-Olympics and the winner at the championships last year went from

:09:53. > :09:59.first -- first night and then Dell four, who won the semifinals in

:10:00. > :10:03.2014, dropped to fifth. Peter Kauzer won the semifinals at 2012 and

:10:04. > :10:06.dropped to six so it does not bode well for the man who finishes on top

:10:07. > :10:11.after the semifinal but that cycle will be broken sometime and maybe it

:10:12. > :10:16.will be today. Hannes Aigner of Germany from Augsburg, looked good

:10:17. > :10:19.in the heat, power, made his international debut six years ago

:10:20. > :10:25.and he is a man who does a lot of extreme paddling. That means taking

:10:26. > :10:29.grade five and six rapids and when you have gone through that, these

:10:30. > :10:32.look like nothing waves. Absolutely but it's not about the size of the

:10:33. > :10:36.waves by fusing them correctly and he looks like he's on the good run

:10:37. > :10:40.at the moment but not as quick. This is where he has to use his strength

:10:41. > :10:43.and combine it with every bit of technique you can find. Dynamic,

:10:44. > :10:47.there, but we have to remember that the run of Jakub Grigar was

:10:48. > :10:53.extremely good, 1.78 faster than anyone else, a very wide line

:10:54. > :10:58.between 15 and 16 which will be costly. With the bowel round, just

:10:59. > :11:04.missing clattering the gate itself. 17, no problem, down through 18 and

:11:05. > :11:08.now goes River right to drop down to 19. 3.28 outside which will still

:11:09. > :11:12.qualify in the top five. That would be good enough for Hannes Aigner.

:11:13. > :11:16.But he is starting to fight, where it has not been the best of runs and

:11:17. > :11:24.wants to make sure. As long as he finishes in the top eight, he is

:11:25. > :11:28.safe. Very tight around that pole, 22 but he has to accelerate again on

:11:29. > :11:33.the bow, something he's more than capable of doing with the strong

:11:34. > :11:36.arms. Still some 3.5 - four seconds off the pace going through 22 so

:11:37. > :11:44.let's see how it ends up. Staying strong to the end. 88.84 remains the

:11:45. > :11:50.fastest from Jakub Grigar of Slovakia. Jiri Prskavec, many

:11:51. > :11:53.people's favourite for the title is in second and Peter Kauzer in third

:11:54. > :11:58.and Mike Dawson of New Zealand, brilliant run from him, in fourth,

:11:59. > :12:04.ahead of Hannes Aigner, who we have just seen down the course, going

:12:05. > :12:09.into fifth. Still waiting to see whether they qualify, Kazuki Yazawa,

:12:10. > :12:13.only two to go and we need to hope he doesn't because Joe Clarke is

:12:14. > :12:17.next, we don't want him out of the competition and Giovanni De Gennaro,

:12:18. > :12:22.it would be nice to see the Italians tried to defend the title they won

:12:23. > :12:26.in 2012, with a different paddler, this time. He's a superb paddler is

:12:27. > :12:32.well and you can guarantee that he has got great support. You know,

:12:33. > :12:35.they do. In this sport, there's a lot of good camaraderie. Everyone

:12:36. > :12:39.supports each other as much as they can, you get on the start line and

:12:40. > :12:44.that is it. Lots of communication between the coaches as well. It is

:12:45. > :12:49.not unique but it is one of those sports where you realise you need

:12:50. > :12:54.each other's help. Joe Clarke, fully focused, how nervous is he? Only 23,

:12:55. > :13:00.from Stokes, moving to Walthamstow so he can train on the Lea Valley

:13:01. > :13:04.course, coached by Mark Radcliffe. The moment of truth, he had one good

:13:05. > :13:08.heat run and won brilliantly drawn and one disaster. What is he going

:13:09. > :13:14.to produce in the semifinals at the Olympic Games? A time of 21 would do

:13:15. > :13:19.him nicely at seven. Give you some indication of where he will be on

:13:20. > :13:24.the first split. Heavy turn, he just needs to make sure he stays nice and

:13:25. > :13:27.composed, tight around the upstream on. The gates are starting to move

:13:28. > :13:31.in the wind. This is where we want to see a direct line, popping up on

:13:32. > :13:38.the bow but pretty direct. Good and patient, not the fastest but not far

:13:39. > :13:42.off. Joe Clarke of Great Britain, only one vote per nation in each

:13:43. > :13:46.discipline. Great through the upstream, punting his way back into

:13:47. > :13:49.the mainstream, now working his way down towards those two upstream

:13:50. > :13:55.gates on the right-hand side. He wants to be tight on 17. Beautiful

:13:56. > :14:00.use of water through 15 and 16 and tight on 17, all about getting the

:14:01. > :14:04.composure, spinning down, 1.85, not giving away more. As quick as anyone

:14:05. > :14:08.in the midsection, exactly the same split as we saw from the top,

:14:09. > :14:11.slightly held on the crossover but gets a way out of that gate very

:14:12. > :14:17.nicely. This is looking good for Joe Clarke. The last upstream data on

:14:18. > :14:23.the course, needs to stay nice and safe, that is it, now tack away. You

:14:24. > :14:28.can see the arms burning and the grip on his face as he powered

:14:29. > :14:31.through, bit of a heavy yet but keep control. Plenty of time, he can ease

:14:32. > :14:37.up now commonly does not know it but he could, not going to be the

:14:38. > :14:41.fastest but 1.83, great run, goes into third place. That is the

:14:42. > :14:48.perfect position to start. I hesitate to state but that is where

:14:49. > :14:52.the winner started in the C1 vinyl yesterday. That is the power pushing

:14:53. > :14:56.him down the power pushing him down because, no 50s, which we saw in Lea

:14:57. > :15:00.Valley would put him in so much trouble, he had a 15th in the heat

:15:01. > :15:03.is here which meant his second heat was a nail-biting run. Then he

:15:04. > :15:07.produced some really good paddling. How do you rate that? How much were

:15:08. > :15:11.the nerves affecting his performance? It was a really mature

:15:12. > :15:16.performance, like in the second heat run. It demonstrated that he built

:15:17. > :15:26.on it. The top part, he looked a bit nervous, maybe not quite as sharp as

:15:27. > :15:28.he built on it and was really strong and tight around the gate, using the

:15:29. > :15:31.water very nicely through the stagger sequences and at the bottom

:15:32. > :15:34.it was making sure he was in the gates, steadying it, close around

:15:35. > :15:39.the poles but taking no risks and producing an excellent run.

:15:40. > :15:48.Well done to him, as we go back to the top, the last man down in the

:15:49. > :15:54.semifinal, made difficult position for Giovanni De Gennaro, it is hard

:15:55. > :16:05.to think he would not qualify. He comes from 60 kilometres north-east

:16:06. > :16:15.of Milan. Just south of the South Tyrol, plenty of rivers up there.

:16:16. > :16:24.His coach died in a tragic accident. Should he win here today, or get

:16:25. > :16:29.himself a medal, he will be in his thoughts. I am not sure what

:16:30. > :16:41.happened there, very strange to spin on gate eight. He must have got

:16:42. > :16:45.off-line slightly. Not quite in his stride, he looks a bit heavy and

:16:46. > :16:55.laboured, he needs to start using the water. A heavy turn.

:16:56. > :17:04.He does not want to be over eight seconds behind. He still has some

:17:05. > :17:10.way to go. This could be very tight. He wants to be quick. He is playing

:17:11. > :17:12.it very fine. It looks as though he is in eighth or ninth place, only

:17:13. > :17:31.ten go through. The penalty on gate 15 could be

:17:32. > :17:35.costly. A big hit there. Kazuki Yazawa watching gone to see if he

:17:36. > :17:41.goes through, but the news is not good for him. He goes crashing out.

:17:42. > :17:50.Giovanni De Gennaro, quickest in the heats, performing the ninth fastest

:17:51. > :17:55.time in the semifinals, just ahead of Pedro Da Silva, great news for

:17:56. > :18:01.the local fans, he is due to the last ten, and anything can happen.

:18:02. > :18:05.We saw some of the biggest names make mistakes yesterday, who is to

:18:06. > :18:11.say it will not happen again. It always happens to somebody, that is

:18:12. > :18:18.part of racing. The king inside gate 18, 80 second penalty. -- a two

:18:19. > :18:27.second penalty. He did not show his to form, he had a bizarre spin

:18:28. > :18:31.coming out of gate seven. But hopefully now that is out of the way

:18:32. > :18:35.and he can let rip in the final. It is not Kim alerted, not the best run

:18:36. > :18:40.to count, it is all about the one run in the final. Only two of the

:18:41. > :18:42.ten who have qualified picked up penalties today will stop a couple

:18:43. > :19:06.of men picking up 50s. Isak Ohrstrom was a bag of nerves,

:19:07. > :19:11.that was probably the issue. The top three will be the last three to go.

:19:12. > :19:16.The German looked solid enough, but some way behind the time of ten Mac

:19:17. > :19:31.-- the time of Jakub Grigar. The Brazilian will keep the crowd

:19:32. > :19:38.here until the end of the action today. The finals start at 3:15pm.

:19:39. > :19:44.Any predictions? Apart from the fact we will be called? Hopefully the

:19:45. > :19:53.weather will stay as it is and the wind does not pick up any more,

:19:54. > :19:57.because it is just on the limit. Peter Kauzer needs to pick up speed,

:19:58. > :20:04.I think the winning time will be under 90 seconds. Joe Clarke is

:20:05. > :20:08.showing great maturity. Fingers crossed, let's hope he can keep the

:20:09. > :20:14.focus and calm, controlled mess, but at the same time, not let it hinder

:20:15. > :20:29.him. There is no reason why it should. And Jiri Prskavec was good.

:20:30. > :20:30.It is whether you can combine the tight upstream gates as well as the

:20:31. > :20:46.down. That is what Jakub Grigar did so well. If

:20:47. > :20:53.you can combine it, that will be the winner. Those who can flow through

:20:54. > :21:02.seven, eight, nine, ten, that seems to be where the time is won and

:21:03. > :21:07.lost. And 15, 16. Another key bit. The upstream gates, 13 and 17, where

:21:08. > :21:12.they have been dynamic, we have seen time gained, because they are

:21:13. > :21:17.inconsistent. Quite hard to get the grip. That is why people use the

:21:18. > :21:22.pond. They are close to the wall, and getting the timing is tricky, to

:21:23. > :21:28.get the timing of the leveraged, pushing hard on the pump, and the

:21:29. > :21:33.acceleration out. 55 minutes for the athletes to prepare for the final

:21:34. > :21:36.run, it will be the Brazilian who goes first, he will be on top of the

:21:37. > :21:42.leaderboard for a while, whatever happens. How long it lasts, the wait

:21:43. > :21:46.and find out. We are in for a cracking final. We will recover

:21:47. > :21:52.before the start of the final. 3:15pm local time for the last run.

:21:53. > :21:54.Joe Clarke has made it, he is in a fantastic position, he will be the

:21:55. > :22:04.eighth to go of the ten finalists. Your time that is 7:15pm, just an

:22:05. > :22:09.hour to get ready for Joe Clarke and the others in that kayak single

:22:10. > :22:14.final. All getting very exciting. Who would have thought it would be

:22:15. > :22:20.called? It is winter, but you are living in a tropical country, we

:22:21. > :22:23.used to a lot more. We are heading indoors, Sally Conway has begun to

:22:24. > :22:29.get the old vibes going in the judo, the first British judo go to get

:22:30. > :22:34.into a quarterfinals, she has had two successful fights. She is a

:22:35. > :22:41.medallist. Learned in the Commonwealth Games, born in Bristol.

:22:42. > :22:45.She is fighting Linda Bolder, representing Israel, but she has

:22:46. > :22:47.represented the Netherlands until last year. Can she get through to

:22:48. > :22:59.the semifinals? Welcome back. An Olympic

:23:00. > :23:08.quarterfinal for Britain's Sally Conway, after beating the world

:23:09. > :23:11.champion. Next, she is facing Linda Bolder of Israel, formerly of the

:23:12. > :23:16.Netherlands. She has been a European silver medallist in the past, but on

:23:17. > :23:24.paper she is not quite at the level of the world champion, who she beat

:23:25. > :23:31.so dramatically earlier today. Sally Conway in the white. Four minutes on

:23:32. > :23:38.the clock in this under 70 kilo quarterfinal. They know each other

:23:39. > :23:45.very well, they have fought eight times over the past eight years.

:23:46. > :23:54.Linda Bolder has won five. Sally Conway looks in exceptional form.

:23:55. > :23:57.Two ippons so far for Sally Conway. The second was a pin on the world

:23:58. > :24:08.champion, systematic as you will see.

:24:09. > :24:14.Linda Bolder knocked to the floor. Can Sally Conway take advantage?

:24:15. > :24:38.Linda Bolder looked stunned. The Golden School awaiting if there

:24:39. > :24:42.is no score by the end of the four minutes. It can last as long as it

:24:43. > :24:48.needs to until somebody scores or has a penalty awarded against them.

:24:49. > :24:50.Sally Conway already the best performing British judo cohere so

:24:51. > :25:22.far. Linda Bolder getting advice from the

:25:23. > :25:30.coach. She has been penalised. Sally Conway have the most narrow

:25:31. > :25:38.advantage. That penalty will be enough if Linda Bolder cannot score.

:25:39. > :25:43.You cannot be defensive. Sally Conway is not being, either. A big

:25:44. > :25:53.attempt at a throw from Linda Bolder.

:25:54. > :26:03.Sally Conway still ahead, looking lively, as she has done all day,

:26:04. > :26:09.looking focused. Out in the second round of London 2012, already an

:26:10. > :26:12.improvement here. She will feel she can beat this opponent, she can go

:26:13. > :26:17.further, especially after defeating the world champion in the second

:26:18. > :26:20.round. Linda Bolder searching for the grip around the back of Sally

:26:21. > :26:49.Conway's neck. Ippon awarded, and Olympic semifinal

:26:50. > :26:59.awaits Sally Conway, a third ippon in a row. Delight etched her face on

:27:00. > :27:03.the 29-year-old. She came here with a world ranking of ten, she is

:27:04. > :27:23.punching well above that already, into the final four. Sally Conway.

:27:24. > :27:31.A hug for the coach. Huge celebration for Sally Conway, she

:27:32. > :27:34.has more work to do this afternoon, into the evening. The medals are

:27:35. > :27:41.decided today. She looks in the form of her life. Into the final four.

:27:42. > :27:47.Fantastic performance, she will be on the map again in the second

:27:48. > :27:54.session, which begins at 7:30pm your time. She will be on at around 8pm.

:27:55. > :28:01.She is the sixth fight. We have the men's 90 kilo also today. The bronze

:28:02. > :28:05.medallist from Columbia in London four years ago, that is who she is

:28:06. > :28:11.fighting, for a guaranteed silver or something better in the final.

:28:12. > :28:16.Fingers crossed. We will see that. On a less happy note, Lee McKenzie

:28:17. > :28:22.is up at the equestrian centre, there was an incident with a stray

:28:23. > :28:29.bullet on Saturday in the media centre, and something similar today.

:28:30. > :28:33.The information that we have is a bit sketchy, but we know there was

:28:34. > :28:41.an incident at the stables. The security forces have been doubled

:28:42. > :28:45.here. They are trying to work out what has happened. It is unconfirmed

:28:46. > :28:48.it was a bullet, but a lot of the riders say it ended up in the

:28:49. > :28:54.stables. We had an incident on the first day, where one ended up going

:28:55. > :28:58.into the media centre. We are in the middle of a military base, we do

:28:59. > :29:04.hear a lot of live fire, which is unnerving. Bizarrely, the press

:29:05. > :29:15.release that came out said it came from another community, far away

:29:16. > :29:20.from here. Bullets flying around is dangerous. We understand that one

:29:21. > :29:25.was from a favela, but we have not had it confirmed if it was from the

:29:26. > :29:31.military zone or not. All very worrying. On a more positive note,

:29:32. > :29:35.things continue, and it is the beginning of your dressage events,

:29:36. > :29:38.Great Britain the defending champions in the individual and team

:29:39. > :29:44.event, four combinations that are well known, Carl Hester and

:29:45. > :29:49.Charlotte Dujardin on Thursday, what has been happening with the others?

:29:50. > :29:54.We have lost the sunshine and Samba, it is a bit more sombre, and it is

:29:55. > :29:59.starting to rain. Spencer Wilton made his debut, it went well, he was

:30:00. > :30:03.disappointed with his score, but he sits in second place.

:30:04. > :30:10.We have ten horses to go, including Fiona Bigwood, she will make her

:30:11. > :30:16.debut in half an hour. One of the big stories has been the individual

:30:17. > :30:21.silver medallist, with her horse, from the Netherlands. She had to

:30:22. > :30:28.stop mid-test. The horse yesterday was bitten, she is not sure by what.

:30:29. > :30:34.It was really swollen. A vet took the toxins out, the horse was on

:30:35. > :30:39.liquids yesterday, it passed another vet, but she did not feel he was a

:30:40. > :30:43.happy horse, so she withdrew him in the last test. Quite a lot of

:30:44. > :30:47.excitement here for the first day of dressage!

:30:48. > :30:53.A little bit unnerving! Take care of yourself up there! We are going to

:30:54. > :30:57.go swimming in the meantime as we head in doors and I'm sure you were

:30:58. > :31:00.watching or at least you know that there was yet another couple of

:31:01. > :31:05.medals in the pool for Great Britain and a total of four so far, that

:31:06. > :31:11.gold and the three silver medals so far is a very good hall, surpassing

:31:12. > :31:15.the total medals in the pool from London last time around. It is all

:31:16. > :31:18.going very well. There are more chances. We are going to see some of

:31:19. > :31:24.the action from the heat earlier this afternoon in Rio, and first, it

:31:25. > :31:28.is the 200 metres breaststroke for women, two athlete in this, Chloe

:31:29. > :31:47.Tutton and Molly Renshaw in the first heat we will see, the second.

:31:48. > :31:56.The first of the seeded heats, the world made the semifinal at aged 15.

:31:57. > :32:04., Kanako Watanabe. Lilly King, the gold medallist on the 100 metres

:32:05. > :32:09.quite interesting, Lilly King using her speed and the trick 4000 metres

:32:10. > :32:12.swimmer is to use enough to get you down to the first hundred but have

:32:13. > :32:24.something left rather than expending everything. We've had a number of

:32:25. > :32:28.breaststroke as do the 100 and 200 and I would like to see Adam Peaty

:32:29. > :32:33.do 200. Beautiful technique from Molly Renshaw in the red cap nearest

:32:34. > :32:39.the camera. She missed 2012, really tough for her, missing the team in

:32:40. > :32:42.London, did not qualify in time but it was the only one of the

:32:43. > :32:46.conditions that counted. Lilly King falling back and Molly Renshaw in

:32:47. > :32:50.first place. She had a look over there. I hope this has helped our

:32:51. > :32:54.confidence, hold that stroke technique. Keep your stroke count.

:32:55. > :33:01.This is where they count the number of strokes for each 50 metres coming

:33:02. > :33:04.keep it efficient. I'd love to know what she was thinking. She looked

:33:05. > :33:09.over across the field in the next lane is the world record holder,

:33:10. > :33:15.Rikke Moller Pedersen, and she was ahead of her fairly comfortably. So,

:33:16. > :33:19.Molly Renshaw in lane six for Great Britain, fourth at the European

:33:20. > :33:22.Championships, silver medallist in the European Championships in 2014

:33:23. > :33:29.and she looks really good at the moment. Just behind Rikke Moller

:33:30. > :33:33.Pedersen, Molly Renshaw but a great turn. A better turn, fantastic

:33:34. > :33:39.swimming, hold the stroke, strong to the end. You can see that she

:33:40. > :33:42.breathes up so she will be able to see, some other stuck their heads

:33:43. > :33:47.and Pedersen turning it on a bit now. Good swimming, though, great to

:33:48. > :33:56.see. I think she will qualify in the top two. It is fast. Molly Renshaw

:33:57. > :34:02.doing a job in this heat two of four of the women's 200 metres breast

:34:03. > :34:07.stroke, under 2.24, I think, should come to be make it into the

:34:08. > :34:13.semifinals and she has gone 2:23.3, about 0.6 seconds underneath.

:34:14. > :34:19.2:23.37, it was. Good, solid, done the job. Fantastic slim, must put

:34:20. > :34:23.the disappointment from four years ago behind you a bit. Definitely, I

:34:24. > :34:27.mean, I knew I had to come this morning and have a strong heat. It

:34:28. > :34:31.was more about the process for me, trying to keep my cool and do my own

:34:32. > :34:36.race and not concentrate on everyone else. Good build-up? You did some

:34:37. > :34:40.work with Mel the other day when I was watching warm-ups. I've been

:34:41. > :34:50.with her all camp and she has been really useful. Obviously she has the

:34:51. > :34:52.insight, working with Adam Peaty so she's pretty good at the

:34:53. > :34:55.breaststroke! Great smile on your face, waving at the family who have

:34:56. > :34:57.all made the trip? Yes, there's five of them here and my boyfriend

:34:58. > :35:00.surprised me yesterday. I have not stopped smiling since then. I'm sure

:35:01. > :35:10.the time will put you in the semifinals. See you later. Job done.

:35:11. > :35:13.COMMENTATOR: In heat three, Chloe Tutton of Great Britain in lane

:35:14. > :35:17.three, free from the right-hand side and she will be free from the top

:35:18. > :35:24.when they give you the side view. Great lane to be in. Top, with the

:35:25. > :35:28.red cap on, next to Rie Kaneto, the first Japanese woman to swim under

:35:29. > :35:33.2.20 and the world 11 right now. She has been second to Watanabe, that we

:35:34. > :35:38.have just seen, most of her career but has come through this year and I

:35:39. > :35:42.would like to see Chloe get close to her and stay close because she has

:35:43. > :35:46.got speed and I think I would like to see her use that. Coming through

:35:47. > :35:56.now, lying in fifth place, I think. Strong and long but looking at that,

:35:57. > :36:02.Taylor McKeown, swimming really well in the yellow hat. Chloe Tutton

:36:03. > :36:07.looks very comfortable, long and easy and rangy. But I would love to

:36:08. > :36:11.see her move up a bit at the moment. Taylor McKeown has gone off very

:36:12. > :36:18.quick indeed for Australia. 68.2 is very fast indeed. Chloe Tutton's

:36:19. > :36:22.split is 1:10.1, more sensible and she's a good back half swimmer,

:36:23. > :36:27.Chloe Tutton, British record holder on the 200 metres breaststroke,

:36:28. > :36:30.2:22.3, something close to that and she will be through to the

:36:31. > :36:34.semifinals. Starting to move up, good swim from her, on the left-hand

:36:35. > :36:39.side of the Red Hat, just at the top now. British record is set on the

:36:40. > :36:44.68.88, so expected to come back right now and she is, moving up the

:36:45. > :36:48.field, fantastic third 50. Really strong, going into the wall, with

:36:49. > :36:58.real momentum. And close, very close. Only one second behind Taylor

:36:59. > :37:01.McKeown now. And reconnect though. Rie Kaneto and Chloe Tutton have

:37:02. > :37:08.called back-up but Taylor McKeown still holding them off. -- have

:37:09. > :37:11.caught back up. Taylor McKeown still leading with 20 metres to go and

:37:12. > :37:15.reconnect though of Japan just about in second but Chloe Tutton coming

:37:16. > :37:20.through, looking good. I think she will probably go a low 2.23, and if

:37:21. > :37:25.she does that, she will make it through to the semifinals. Looks

:37:26. > :37:30.like maybe Rie Kaneto is going to take it. Really tight, Rie Kaneto

:37:31. > :37:36.takes it, 2:22.8. Taylor McKeown second and Chloe Tutton, 2:23.3,

:37:37. > :37:42.right where she needed to be, very good swim. I swim, nice and solid,

:37:43. > :37:46.really important to do your own race, isn't it? You did not let

:37:47. > :37:51.anyone says you, by going out fast. I had my blinkers on, couldn't see

:37:52. > :37:55.anyone. I had a nice, strong, relaxed morning swim. Hopefully

:37:56. > :38:00.enough to get me into the semifinals tonight. I'm sure it will be, pretty

:38:01. > :38:04.much the same time for both of you. I don't know what time Molly did but

:38:05. > :38:10.I will find out when I go and see her. What kind of race blind do you

:38:11. > :38:15.have before you get in on this? I mean, I'm usually quite hyper and

:38:16. > :38:19.the adrenaline is rushing. I get some calm music on and try to listen

:38:20. > :38:25.and get into good vibes. Try to execute my race plan. What are you

:38:26. > :38:30.listening to? Foals, a nice, chilled, banned all kings of Leon.

:38:31. > :38:31.Keeping the stroke long and slow. We will see you later tonight. Well

:38:32. > :38:47.done. COMMENTATOR: The final heat of the

:38:48. > :38:51.women's 200 metres breaststroke and the worst start from Yulia Efimova

:38:52. > :38:57.in the centre with the bright pink swimsuit, all. . She is setting

:38:58. > :39:00.offered such slow stroke rate, she does this and it looks like they are

:39:01. > :39:07.swimming different races between lane seven And Lane four, sorry,

:39:08. > :39:14.five. This is a typical way of swimming. The 18-year-old, the world

:39:15. > :39:18.Junior Championships last year, when she did her 2.19, Viktoriya Zeynep

:39:19. > :39:22.Gunes, would have won the senior World Championships, which took

:39:23. > :39:26.place around the same time. A lot expected of her, the first time she

:39:27. > :39:33.has been in the senior Championships. This is very, very

:39:34. > :39:36.strange from Yulia Efimova. She is a brilliant breaststroke swimmer, got

:39:37. > :39:41.a silver medal in the 100 last night but she was a full second behind

:39:42. > :39:45.seventh place at the first 50-metre turn, a second behind seventh, she

:39:46. > :39:51.turned in eighth. Really weird. She said she has not slept much through

:39:52. > :40:04.the experience she has had at the games. Gunes turning in first place,

:40:05. > :40:07.actually, it looks like Kierra Smith of Canada, looking strongest and

:40:08. > :40:15.holding the fort stroke rate she set off on. Coming through. Yulia

:40:16. > :40:19.Efimova starting to pick up the pace of the stroke in the centre, in the

:40:20. > :40:23.pink suit. It is much quicker now. She is starting to do that poor

:40:24. > :40:28.passing and goodness me, she is flying through the field. --

:40:29. > :40:34.porpoise movement. It would not surprise me if she won it got top

:40:35. > :40:37.two. Smith, look at that, a big old throw of the hand sword, I've never

:40:38. > :40:44.seen her do it quicker than that. Amazing. -- of the hand forward.

:40:45. > :40:48.Kierra Smith doing really well. A simple job to do, relatively, make

:40:49. > :40:51.the semifinals and she is giving herself a great chance but look at

:40:52. > :40:56.Yulia Efimova coming through in the pink suit. The stroke rate is just

:40:57. > :41:00.so much quicker, almost like she hardly tried down the first 50, A

:41:01. > :41:10.full second behind seventh at the 50 and she is going to get second? Yes,

:41:11. > :41:11.just about. 2:23.69 won it, well, third,, Gunes second and Yulia

:41:12. > :41:18.Efimova third. Chloe Tutton and Molly Renshaw

:41:19. > :41:22.qualified fourth and fifth fastest and out of the main man, Michael

:41:23. > :41:27.Phelps, who got gold medals number 20 and 21 of his illustrious career

:41:28. > :41:32.last night and is in his relentless pursuit of riches continuing. He's

:41:33. > :41:37.probably got three more chances, the relay probably an two individual

:41:38. > :41:40.events, the 100 fly and this one, the 200 metres individual medley.

:41:41. > :41:45.The heats were today and we will see him shortly and so, too, is well

:41:46. > :41:48.decorated American team-mate, Ryan Lochte. This is the only individual

:41:49. > :41:50.event in which he came through in a very tough US trials. Ryan Lochte is

:41:51. > :42:05.in heat number two. COMMENTATOR: The first of the seeded

:42:06. > :42:12.heats of the men's 200 IM. Also going well in sixth, Philip Heintz

:42:13. > :42:18.of Germany. Ryan Lochte is four fantastic strokes, good backstroke

:42:19. > :42:23.coming up after the fly. He has worked really hard on that over the

:42:24. > :42:33.years. Henrique Rodrigues, the Brazilian over in first, in lane

:42:34. > :42:38.five, and the crowd getting excited. Henrique Rodrigues, still holding a

:42:39. > :42:42.lead with the white cap, nearest to us, beautiful backstroke, holding

:42:43. > :42:49.off Ryan Lochte. 15 to go before they changed to Brest Road. --

:42:50. > :42:52.breaststroke. Nice and balanced breaststroke and this is interesting

:42:53. > :43:02.because Ryan Lochte is no slouch on the fly and the back. Travis Mahoney

:43:03. > :43:05.in lane two, of Australia, and the German, Philip Hindes have had a

:43:06. > :43:09.fantastic run and is charged on the Brest Road leg will stop Henrique

:43:10. > :43:15.Rodrigues Brazil leading and a crowd going nuts. Hopefully, I said this

:43:16. > :43:19.before, they have to time it right otherwise they will throw his timing

:43:20. > :43:22.off, he needs to hear when he comes up. Ryan Lochte with a strong

:43:23. > :43:27.breaststroke, really good, you know, looks a lot better than I have seen

:43:28. > :43:34.it for. He's taken 0.5 seconds of him, hasn't he? A good fly kick to

:43:35. > :43:37.the surface and now Ryan Lochte reading this, strong from Philip

:43:38. > :43:43.Heintz in lane six, as you mentioned. Philip Heintz turn and

:43:44. > :43:46.then his charge on the breaststroke, his freestyle is very good and Ryan

:43:47. > :43:49.Lochte is working quite hard. The Brazilian between them, I think he

:43:50. > :43:53.will make the semifinal tonight, seventh in the world so he should

:43:54. > :43:59.do, that was just last year. Nice and easy, bit Hollywood at the end

:44:00. > :44:01.by Ryan Lochte. 1:57.3, he wins it and Philip Heintz in second and

:44:02. > :44:11.Henrique Rodrigues in third. Dan Wallace was part of the silver

:44:12. > :44:15.medal winning relay quartet for Great Britain in the four by 200

:44:16. > :44:19.metres and he goes in the third heat of this event.

:44:20. > :44:29.COMMENTATOR: So, 50 fly, 50 back, 50 breaststroke and 53 and Dan Wallace,

:44:30. > :44:35.the Commonwealth champion on the 400 medley, up there in lane three, for

:44:36. > :44:38.Great Britain. David Verraszto not showing, bit unfortunate for Seaman

:44:39. > :44:43.Makovich in lane eight come swimming by himself, I would think they

:44:44. > :44:48.should move them over but perhaps he likes empty water, fewer waves.

:44:49. > :44:52.Lisicki Hegi knowing first and Daniel Wallace in second.

:44:53. > :44:58.Interesting, I thought the first 50 metres, he was behind the crowd.

:44:59. > :45:02.Touching in second place, and Kosuke Hashino, great gold medal on the 400

:45:03. > :45:10.medley and looking for the double. He really wants to spoil the Ryan

:45:11. > :45:13.Lochte and Michael Phelps story. Dan Wallace up there in lane three, has

:45:14. > :45:19.an excellent rest room and freestyle. Very long glide into the

:45:20. > :45:22.final arm, held it above his head, strange thing to do but he has

:45:23. > :45:26.turned in sixth place but now the charge will come. He's got some

:45:27. > :45:33.charging to do because Hagino of Japan is looking very good in the

:45:34. > :45:44.black cap, the leader. You can see, still using the glide. Jeremy

:45:45. > :45:47.Desplanches doing very well and Andres Pila loss of Greece, did not

:45:48. > :45:54.do very well in the previous games. -- Andreas Vazaios. Turning in

:45:55. > :45:57.second place and Dan Wallace is having an awesome breaststroke leg.

:45:58. > :46:01.Right back in contention. But they are all in a line and he has to be

:46:02. > :46:06.careful on the freestyle. Fourth or fifth is not going to be helpful.

:46:07. > :46:10.Well, Dan Wallace's freestyle is pretty good, with the 203 he did

:46:11. > :46:16.last night but Hagino's is excellent. Wang Shun of China going

:46:17. > :46:20.well as well, the bronze medallist from the World Championships last

:46:21. > :46:28.year. Hagino wins it, Wang Shun second and Dan Wallace, 1:59.4,

:46:29. > :46:36.fourth. That will, I'm sure, getting through to the semifinals.

:46:37. > :46:48.A massive cheer from the crowd. Next to Michael Phelps, the Brazilian,

:46:49. > :46:52.and the Ieuan Lloyd in Lane seven. He got the best reaction, so he won

:46:53. > :47:05.that bed. Michael Phelps a bit sluggish. Thiago Pereira crowd

:47:06. > :47:11.pleasing. They will look at the far left, really good underwater for the

:47:12. > :47:20.Portuguese. Thiago Pereira looking good. He won a silver medal in

:47:21. > :47:30.London. World Championships over last year. It would be great if he

:47:31. > :47:34.could get a medal for Brazil here. It is Thiago Pereira over first.

:47:35. > :47:41.Nearly one second ahead of Michael Phelps. Ieuan Lloyd in eighth place,

:47:42. > :47:48.he has work to do. He is holding off Michael Phelps, he is working hard.

:47:49. > :48:01.A powerful sample. Thiago Pereira just fed still. Hiromasa Fujimori

:48:02. > :48:06.coming through. Michael Phelps half a second behind. I don't think he

:48:07. > :48:11.will be too worried, he will know where he is, he has a very strong

:48:12. > :48:16.freestyle. The former world record-holder on the 200 freestyle,

:48:17. > :48:24.he is reeling him in, like putting a fish in. He is even slowing up a

:48:25. > :48:33.bit. Hiromasa Fujimori coming back, but look at that from Michael

:48:34. > :48:39.Phelps. My word. He is awesome. Awesome and ruthless. Would you let

:48:40. > :48:51.the Brazilians win for the crowd? No, no point. Menacing.

:48:52. > :48:58.Ieuan Lloyd had a very good freestyle. The breast stroke he was

:48:59. > :49:07.on OK, but his freestyle was very good. 1:50 9.70 four. He has got a

:49:08. > :49:14.chance of making the semifinal. He may well have finished in 15th

:49:15. > :49:18.place. 0.06 inside the time required to make the semifinal. Well done,

:49:19. > :49:41.Ieuan Lloyd. The backstroke. Huge cheers going on, because Thiago

:49:42. > :49:45.Pereira has got out of the pool, and waved his arms to get the noise

:49:46. > :49:49.going. The blackout on the left of the leaders is Thiago Pereira.

:49:50. > :49:58.Michael Phelps is playing with him, like a mouse ready for his lunch.

:49:59. > :50:12.Michael Phelps swimming one of his last individual races, I would

:50:13. > :50:18.suggest. Winning the heat very comfortable in. Ieuan Lloyd may well

:50:19. > :50:26.make the semifinal. Confirmation, Ieuan Lloyd and Dan

:50:27. > :50:33.Wallace have both made the semifinal this evening. Ryan Lochte fastest,

:50:34. > :50:37.Michael Phelps third fastest. This evening I am sure you are getting

:50:38. > :50:41.ready to settle down at 8pm for live coverage of the men's individual

:50:42. > :50:48.all-around gymnastics. It could be a cracking contest. The Japanese, who

:50:49. > :50:54.is unbeaten in a global contest in the individual all-around since

:50:55. > :50:56.2008, he took silver then, he has ruled the roost, but Max Whitlock

:50:57. > :51:03.has been getting closer and closer, silver medallist last year in

:51:04. > :51:11.Glasgow at the World Championships. Gymnastics is my life. I have done

:51:12. > :51:19.it since I was seven. It has been an amazing journey. It has made me who

:51:20. > :51:23.I am today. In 2015 Max Whitlock won an historic world gold medal, a

:51:24. > :51:27.stunning feat, but before that, a mystery illness had almost ended his

:51:28. > :51:33.year before it began. It was stressful. It was the beginning of

:51:34. > :51:36.last year. I remember saying to my parents at the beginning of the

:51:37. > :51:43.year, I feel the fittest I have been. Two weeks down the line, the

:51:44. > :51:47.English Championships, and it was deteriorating rapidly, within a week

:51:48. > :51:52.I went from making greetings clean to not being able to do a key skills

:51:53. > :51:58.in combination. The blood test came back as glandular fever, it was a

:51:59. > :52:03.relief. It lasted three months. It motivated me even more to get back

:52:04. > :52:07.in, and it helped me push so hard to produce the results that I did at

:52:08. > :52:16.the end of the year. Max Whitlock is the pommel horse world champion! The

:52:17. > :52:22.first time that a British men's gymnast has one goal at the World

:52:23. > :52:29.Championships. How many times a day you hear? Six days a week, between

:52:30. > :52:37.five to seven hours training a day. It is a great atmosphere. With all

:52:38. > :52:42.the guys I train with. He has never been a superstar. I would hold once

:52:43. > :52:47.he would struggle to make a team because his feet don't point and

:52:48. > :52:56.stuff like that. He has got a bit of Flex feet. But because they bend the

:52:57. > :52:59.other way, it helps him stick his dismounts, so when he sticks, it is

:53:00. > :53:05.because of his feet. It is strange, how it turns out. He can compete

:53:06. > :53:13.under pressure calmly without getting affected by it. This is your

:53:14. > :53:19.specialism, you have mastered this. This is my strongest piece,

:53:20. > :53:23.definitely. A lot of my focus is on it all the time, I do double

:53:24. > :53:29.sessions every day, so I do more on it than any other piece. That is a

:53:30. > :53:38.beautiful routine. Max Whitlock is challenging for a medal. Super

:53:39. > :53:44.stuff. That was first-class! I was only 19, not expected to produce any

:53:45. > :53:48.results. Help with the team result, that is the first time in a hundred

:53:49. > :53:54.years. Nobody can ever take that away from these boys. For me to get

:53:55. > :53:59.an individual bronze was unreal. I did not feel under the radar, I was

:54:00. > :54:05.so pleased with what I produced on that day. How does it feel to have

:54:06. > :54:10.overtaken Louis Smith? He has been pushed down, you are top dog now. It

:54:11. > :54:16.is still a close competition, we both have high scores. We need to

:54:17. > :54:21.produce clean routines. It is pushing both of us even more, which

:54:22. > :54:25.is best for our team. What is it like, going into an Olympic Games as

:54:26. > :54:30.reigning world champion? Some people see it as more pressure, but I see

:54:31. > :54:34.it as a result in my bag. It calms me down, knowing I have the title

:54:35. > :54:40.behind me. The Olympics is the pinnacle.

:54:41. > :54:45.We hope for good things, not just for him, but for Nile Wilson, who

:54:46. > :54:51.has also made it through. It could be a cracking evening. Not just for

:54:52. > :54:57.them but for other British athletes, Sally Conway in the 70 kilo category

:54:58. > :55:03.in the judo, her semifinal will be between 7:30pm and 8:15pm. We will

:55:04. > :55:07.keep you abreast of that. We have two shooters in the semifinals of

:55:08. > :55:15.the men's trap, and Joe Clarke, the third fastest qualifier, in the

:55:16. > :55:22.kayak single. Matthew Pinsent, great excitement, I would think, rather

:55:23. > :55:25.unexpected. I don't know about that. But he paddled brilliantly. To post

:55:26. > :55:32.the third quickest time is fantastic. It was clean as well, no

:55:33. > :55:39.penalties picked up, and if you are watching it, his reaction, double

:55:40. > :55:43.fist bump, delighted. His first Olympics, he has made the final, the

:55:44. > :55:49.third quickest time, so job well done, and it begins again in the

:55:50. > :55:53.final. Very encouraging. In terms of those he will face, who look the

:55:54. > :55:58.most impressive in qualifying's he is surrounded by some of the best in

:55:59. > :56:06.the world. He is not ranked as high as many. He is probably ranked

:56:07. > :56:12.seventh in the world coming in. The people around him and the tactics of

:56:13. > :56:16.slalom canoe are such that in order to win a gold medal, somebody will

:56:17. > :56:22.have to nail a run. That is both risk and reward. He has got an

:56:23. > :56:27.interesting choice, about whether he holds something back and goes safe

:56:28. > :56:32.and trusted go clean and pick-up pieces from some of the favourites

:56:33. > :56:37.who might fall by the wayside. He is absolutely in the mix, it is very

:56:38. > :56:40.exciting. Can I ask you to put your roaring hat on? Not to talk

:56:41. > :56:45.specifics, but generally about the fact we have lost two days in the

:56:46. > :56:50.regatta and how does that affect the rowers and their preparations? You

:56:51. > :56:56.have to start all over again. It is not uncommon. The governing body

:56:57. > :57:04.took the call. We have got the wind and rain. It is coming in. If this

:57:05. > :57:09.continues, and the forecast is not good for tomorrow, it starts getting

:57:10. > :57:15.very squashed towards Friday, Saturday, Sunday to get the 14

:57:16. > :57:20.finals that we hopefully have. The athletes are used to it, delays are

:57:21. > :57:24.part and parcel of rowing, and pushing it back by 24 hours is not a

:57:25. > :57:29.problem, but if it continues for another 24 hours or worse, the guys

:57:30. > :57:36.in control have got some very big decisions to make. Enjoy the kayak

:57:37. > :57:41.single event. We will watch in 20 minutes. Before we go, a brief

:57:42. > :57:49.reminder of some of the main stories so far on day five. Veteran American

:57:50. > :57:53.Kristin Armstrong rolled back the years to win a third is excessive

:57:54. > :58:01.Olympic time trial. Emma Pooley did not make the podium. In the men's,

:58:02. > :58:06.Chris Froome, it is bronze again. It was won by the incredible Swiss.

:58:07. > :58:11.Another gold medal after eight years. Sally Conway just one victory

:58:12. > :58:15.away from an Olympic judo medal after a sensational run to the

:58:16. > :58:21.semifinals. She will fight a game in the semifinals around about 8pm.

:58:22. > :58:24.Great Britain's man held on by the skin of their teeth to beat New

:58:25. > :58:30.Zealand, they play Argentina tonight in the quarterfinals. Our day is

:58:31. > :58:35.done by the beach, Clare Balding will be back on BBC One with a lot

:58:36. > :58:36.more on day five. Thank you for your company, it has been a great day.

:58:37. > :58:42.Goodbye.
