:00:00. > :00:00.usually have two. Joe Clarke yesterday was happy to point out

:00:00. > :00:07.that British conditions suited him. It was around 15, 16 degrees and it

:00:08. > :00:10.is not exactly British today, but the wind is here, meaning the gates

:00:11. > :00:15.are moving around and it means I have to take extra care. We saw a

:00:16. > :00:22.lot more penalties in the semifinals and we were expecting. The finals of

:00:23. > :00:29.C2 quite fantastic. We are underway in the women's final and we start

:00:30. > :00:33.with Melanie Pfeifer. She is going first, which means she produced the

:00:34. > :00:37.slowest qualifying run in the semifinal. She is certainly some we

:00:38. > :00:42.had labelled for metals. Absolutely. She will be looking to pick up. She

:00:43. > :00:48.may have to go back to Gate eight on her first run, but this is the part

:00:49. > :00:52.where she had the trouble. She will look to turn on those down and be a

:00:53. > :00:56.bit safer. She caught the way this time, a much better execution.

:00:57. > :01:01.Really straight line between eight and nine. The European champions in

:01:02. > :01:06.the C2 have just become Olympic champions. I wanted the same thing

:01:07. > :01:10.will happen in the K1. In that case, Melanie Pfeifer will be standing on

:01:11. > :01:14.top of the podium in around 25 or 30 minutes' time. Looking very smooth.

:01:15. > :01:18.Certainly doesn't look to be rushing it in the early stages. Wonder

:01:19. > :01:23.whether she is trying to conserve something for lowdown on the course.

:01:24. > :01:27.It is her style, she is very smooth. She doesn't look particularly fast,

:01:28. > :01:31.but she is picking great lines at the moment. This is a quick run. She

:01:32. > :01:40.has a two second penalty added to bedtime. We saw a lot of penalties

:01:41. > :01:43.in the semifinal. There is a lot of time to be gained on the lower

:01:44. > :01:52.section of the course and if she gets a clean run, gets shot through

:01:53. > :01:57.towards Gate 22, that will be handy. This is where she has to dig deep,

:01:58. > :02:01.this is where the training, those hours of training, winter and

:02:02. > :02:07.summer, payoff in the last 30 or 40 metres. Fractions of a second

:02:08. > :02:12.decided in the men's K1. Will this be the same? Melanie Pfeifer can

:02:13. > :02:19.just wait and see. Is it good enough?

:02:20. > :02:29.Coming into Gate 13, it was nice and smooth around the upstream. Maybe a

:02:30. > :02:33.little slow on the exit. A nice line between 15 and 16, that is where she

:02:34. > :02:36.picked up at his second penalty. Just clipped the inside poll. They

:02:37. > :02:41.have to be very aware of where they are, it is an agile game. They have

:02:42. > :02:52.to be flexible, gets tight to those polls. Not nicely going first in a

:02:53. > :03:02.final, but really, you can afford to throw caution to the wind as we go

:03:03. > :03:08.back to the top Slovenia's Ursa Kragelj. Started ninth in the semis,

:03:09. > :03:11.second in the final. Only 56 kilograms, but she generates a lot

:03:12. > :03:24.of power. The junior world champion from 2006. Now, 28, about as strong

:03:25. > :03:29.as she will ever be. This is not a smooth start at all. Having to

:03:30. > :03:36.really slow herself down. She needs to refocus and find that rhythm.

:03:37. > :03:40.Find the flow of the water, because this cause needs the smooth

:03:41. > :03:47.consistent paddling. You have to spot the lines. Nice in at seven,

:03:48. > :03:52.but it is all about the exit. Direct line 30 Gate eight. The king of the

:03:53. > :03:58.poll at Gate nine. Can she get the globe? Surprised to see her leading

:03:59. > :04:07.by that much. The top section was not tidy at all. Ursa Kragelj is an

:04:08. > :04:13.outstanding paddler, started her career on the soporific. One of the

:04:14. > :04:23.most beautiful in the world. She won't struggle with the conditions

:04:24. > :04:25.or the size of the water here. Is sloppy to second penalty on Gate 18.

:04:26. > :04:37.Caught it on her back. You could see her shaking her head

:04:38. > :04:42.to get the water out of her ears. This is not looking good on the

:04:43. > :04:49.bottom section. She won't be aware that she was leading Melanie

:04:50. > :04:57.Pfeifer. Perhaps she wouldn't have looked so resigned otherwise. When

:04:58. > :04:59.you want your bronze in Athens, what position did you start in the final?

:05:00. > :05:12.Third. A disappointing run from Ursa

:05:13. > :05:16.Kragelj. Melanie Pfeifer's is nothing special. Easy to beat at the

:05:17. > :05:26.top half of Ursa Kragelj's run showed us. A little sticky at the

:05:27. > :05:31.top. Having to be very patient to get round Gate three without taking

:05:32. > :05:37.any penalties. A bit too wide on the downstream Gate 18, clipping it on

:05:38. > :05:41.the back. Eight to go and just a reminder that the owner Penny will

:05:42. > :05:48.be the penultimate start having produced an outstanding qualifying

:05:49. > :05:56.time -- Fiona Pennie. It will be a tight one. Melanie Pfeifer in a

:05:57. > :06:01.fantastic addition. Stefanie Horn of Italy is the next to go. Have a

:06:02. > :06:10.tremendous qualifying run. Lead the way. The Italians led the C1. It

:06:11. > :06:14.doesn't mean much. It is all about the final run. Do you like the

:06:15. > :06:18.format now? Yes, it is exciting to have the one final run. They get to

:06:19. > :06:22.know the course and it is a different race every time. Hard on

:06:23. > :06:26.the paddlers, they have to come out, but I do like the attacking style as

:06:27. > :06:32.one run accounts. Stefanie Horn is another powerful paddler. As we

:06:33. > :06:37.mentioned in the semis, if she goes clean, she generally produces a good

:06:38. > :06:43.result. Top five would be good, but the Italians want more medals.

:06:44. > :06:49.Because the gold in the men's K1 in London in 2012. Will they get the

:06:50. > :07:06.women's? Not with too many mistakes like that. She had a much better

:07:07. > :07:09.first four or five gates than we saw from Ursa Kragelj. It is all about

:07:10. > :07:13.getting purchase on the blade, getting the clap, and the important

:07:14. > :07:18.part where you have to get the run of the boat between 15 and 16. 17 is

:07:19. > :07:33.slightly lower. Good news in terms of their position

:07:34. > :07:37.at the moment, but the Italian coaches will be watching knowing she

:07:38. > :07:41.has made mistakes, knowing she has given an opportunity to the

:07:42. > :07:51.remaining seven paddlers who are waiting at the top of this course.

:07:52. > :07:59.Nice bottom section. An excellent spin from 19 to 20, caught the wave

:08:00. > :08:06.well, but a heavy hit between gates 23 and 24. A two second penalty.

:08:07. > :08:14.She was 1.67 up, had she stayed clean. It is so important,

:08:15. > :08:21.particularly in the final run. This is the last run of the canoe slalom.

:08:22. > :08:28.It may be the last time we ever see the C2 in the Olympic Games.

:08:29. > :08:33.Desperately sad. Great to bring the women's C1 in. We have four medals

:08:34. > :08:37.to play with and we need to bring in the extra category for the women, so

:08:38. > :08:41.it is very difficult to also have the C2. Fingers crossed they can

:08:42. > :08:46.find the middle somewhere, but that is the two second penalty she got at

:08:47. > :08:57.Gate 23, and a heavy hit afterwards. All smiles at the moment, but

:08:58. > :09:04.Pfeifer still leads. Nobody has gone clean so far. All three paddlers

:09:05. > :09:11.have picked up two penalties. Luuka Jones is the next to drive to defeat

:09:12. > :09:18.this course at Deodoro. She is one cool customer. A New Zealand flag.

:09:19. > :09:22.Inside, she will be a bag of nerves. Let's hope she can get quickly into

:09:23. > :09:26.red glow. She was outstanding in the heats. One of the big surprises in

:09:27. > :09:30.the arena. Consistent throughout this whole Olympic Games. She came

:09:31. > :09:36.out great in the heats, a solid performance in the semifinals, and

:09:37. > :09:42.here she is in the final. She has been working with a great British

:09:43. > :09:47.silver medallist from 2004. They have been working on being quick off

:09:48. > :09:51.the polls and very dynamic. One of those kids lucky enough to be

:09:52. > :09:56.brought up next to an adventure centre that specialised in kayaking.

:09:57. > :10:05.It is about those opportunities as a kid, and look how it is paid off.

:10:06. > :10:12.No real problems, but it is a question of how quickly you get back

:10:13. > :10:16.in the flow. Can she get through these downstream gates? Chart on the

:10:17. > :10:25.reverse. It is all about keeping the height.

:10:26. > :10:31.Horan was just a fraction quicker through that stage and was leading

:10:32. > :10:37.when she came down to this section -- Horn.

:10:38. > :10:47.That is as good as we have seen all day, including the C2 boats. Bit of

:10:48. > :10:53.a heavy hit. She is back into the flow. She has to get the speed up

:10:54. > :11:01.and running again. She killed the boat speed. The big surprise

:11:02. > :11:09.believes, the big surprise of the semifinals. Will she be the biggest

:11:10. > :11:13.surprise of all? That is a genuine challenge to the best in the world.

:11:14. > :11:22.Luuka Jones has laid it down. Astonishing. Head coach will be

:11:23. > :11:28.beside himself. Those who he has coached have really produce. I don't

:11:29. > :11:33.know if this course suits his style, but that is quite unpredicted and

:11:34. > :11:38.just shows what you can do if you dedicate every single moment.

:11:39. > :11:43.Fantastic. Certainly they have been here an awful lot. Beside the

:11:44. > :11:48.British team, the New Zealand team have been here as much. She just

:11:49. > :11:52.seemed to be so accurate on the gates. Really spotted her lines and

:11:53. > :11:56.has done throughout the competition. Not like she just pulled a run out

:11:57. > :12:00.of the bag, she showed it from the outset. Round one in the heats, she

:12:01. > :12:06.was superb. She has come out and read on it. Save in the semifinals

:12:07. > :12:13.and saved the best run for last. Following Luuka Jones down the cause

:12:14. > :12:17.is Jana Dukatova from Slovakia. Fifth in the semifinal. A safe run.

:12:18. > :12:23.Two penalties incurred. She could do with taking them away. She might

:12:24. > :12:30.have do if she wants to match the time of 1:01.80 two. Fastest time in

:12:31. > :12:37.the semis, 1:01.50 four. Luuka Jones is not far off that time. That was

:12:38. > :12:49.from Corinna Kuhnle. Gate seven is all about the exit. A

:12:50. > :12:52.bit sticky, but she found the line. Quickly through seven and she was on

:12:53. > :13:05.her semifinal run and she is very much in touch with just 0.15 to make

:13:06. > :13:08.up. Where do you pick that time up from Luuka Jones? The only place

:13:09. > :13:16.that is Luuka Jones was not so hot was in the spin, but we know the

:13:17. > :13:23.following girls will have to be very tight around the gates. Watch for

:13:24. > :13:29.the next split. Jones' time, she is still inside. 0.16 is the margin at

:13:30. > :13:35.the moment. This was where Luuka Jones was a little slow. No problem

:13:36. > :13:38.for Jana Dukatova. She might just extend that lead over the New

:13:39. > :13:41.Zealander, but will have to wait and see because there are plenty of

:13:42. > :13:49.obstacles between here and the finish. She is really finding

:13:50. > :13:54.herself having to look of the polls. A two second penalty. In some ways,

:13:55. > :13:58.might be lucky to get away with a two. It's days two for now and Jana

:13:59. > :14:03.Dukatova knows that might be her chance gone. Luuka Jones survives as

:14:04. > :14:09.the event leader and that one mistake on 22 costing Jana Dukatova

:14:10. > :14:17.the lead. It is a cruel, cruel sport. Just as hard for the

:14:18. > :14:21.spectators. When I went up earlier to the great British camp, nervous

:14:22. > :14:25.spectators. You don't have a clue when you are competing, but when you

:14:26. > :14:29.gobble up there and see the families and friends all waiting there, two

:14:30. > :14:32.hours before the start of competition and they are already

:14:33. > :14:35.biting their nails, while, it is a long day. It is certainly worth it

:14:36. > :14:43.when they come away at the end of the day with those medals. Jana

:14:44. > :14:50.Dukatova sixth in the Olympics last time around, and who knows? Maybe

:14:51. > :14:55.she will finish sixth again, because we have another five paddlers still

:14:56. > :14:59.to go. Only one paddler has gone clean so far, and she leads the way.

:15:00. > :15:05.Luuka Jones of New Zealand. New Zealand have never taken a medal in

:15:06. > :15:09.canoe slalom. Australia have never won a gold in canoe slalom. It is

:15:10. > :15:15.almost unbelievable with the likes of Miriam Fox and Richard Fox and

:15:16. > :15:22.the daughter, Jessica Fox. Her sister might well be there in the

:15:23. > :15:29.start in four years. This is the race favourite. Number one in the

:15:30. > :15:34.world. Outstanding K1 paddler and almost as good in the K1.

:15:35. > :15:41.She has such a strong mental capacity. Lots of movement on the

:15:42. > :15:48.pole but I think it was the wind rather than the touch. Goes through

:15:49. > :15:53.seven in 23.5, 24, in touch at this stage. Eight, nine, ten, no problem,

:15:54. > :15:59.looked easy. Nul points seven outside the best at the moment.

:16:00. > :16:03.Tight in around the upstream dates, she's being patient, a lot of power

:16:04. > :16:09.off the water on the back of her boat but she waited and drone it --

:16:10. > :16:13.drove it out. A little bit sticky on the downstream edge, but she is

:16:14. > :16:20.using it to her advantage as she gets across wide into 17, tight on

:16:21. > :16:26.the poles. Dixit -- the quickest out of 17, will she do the same act of

:16:27. > :16:31.19? Has to spin. Spin. Spins early, has to wait patiently but drives

:16:32. > :16:36.across the line. That's lower on 20 than we saw from the New Zealander.

:16:37. > :16:41.It's not a foregone conclusion that Fox will take the lead here. She's

:16:42. > :16:45.going to have to work for it if she wants gold. She looks like she's

:16:46. > :16:52.working very hard at the moment, a little bit wide in gate 22. Not as

:16:53. > :16:57.bad as we saw from Janner Dukatova, who lost her chance of perhaps any

:16:58. > :17:03.medal on that suction of the course. Fox is going to be close, she's

:17:04. > :17:08.inside a 1.33 the margin and Australia have a fabulous chance to

:17:09. > :17:13.take the gold medal, their first in Kalou slalom. You have to applaud

:17:14. > :17:18.the consistency of Jessica Fox at the majors, double world champion in

:17:19. > :17:22.2014, took the see one title in Lee Valley last year, she has come here

:17:23. > :17:25.as the hot, hot favourite and produced a stunning time, quicker

:17:26. > :17:31.than anything we saw in the semifinals. Is it going to be good

:17:32. > :17:35.enough? We will have to sit -- to wait and see but she's a woman with

:17:36. > :17:40.a lot of talent from a young age, she was out at London 2012, a real

:17:41. > :17:44.youngster and showed such composure, such control on the water and off

:17:45. > :17:49.the water and that is her real strength, she is powerful, she has

:17:50. > :17:55.great technique and what she can do is actually deliver, time and time

:17:56. > :18:00.again. That is her mum, Miriam Fox, she was a French paddler, won

:18:01. > :18:05.Olympic bronze in 1996. Her dad was pretty handy as well but never got

:18:06. > :18:10.an Olympic title, so a nervous 15 minutes for them because we have

:18:11. > :18:19.four paddlers remaining. Katerina Kudejova of the Czech Republic. Just

:18:20. > :18:25.242 metres away from the finish, but 24 tricky gates to negotiate before

:18:26. > :18:29.she can complete the course. She took the world title last year,

:18:30. > :18:34.beating Jessica Fox on that occasion. Can she do it again here?

:18:35. > :18:41.Certainly looking composed at the moment, in control. She has a really

:18:42. > :18:45.good pace, quite a pacey paddler. She had a little edge on the

:18:46. > :18:50.entrance to seven, it's about the drive, picking the line, rolling off

:18:51. > :18:55.the waves, a direct line. Nul points 73 upon the split, that is looking

:18:56. > :19:02.good. Can she keep that? Don't forget that Fox wasn't leading at

:19:03. > :19:07.this stage and she got stronger as the course went on. Katerina

:19:08. > :19:10.Kudejova is going to have to do the same. She has a reputation for being

:19:11. > :19:16.typed on the upstream gates. Her coach watching on and that's not as

:19:17. > :19:22.good as we saw from Jessica Fox. That lead could have gone. 62.47 and

:19:23. > :19:26.she has a penalty and suddenly finds herself 1.19 behind, spins early,

:19:27. > :19:32.has to wait, wait, wait until she can get across the wave to 20. It's

:19:33. > :19:38.not going Katerina Kudejova's way at the moment and Jessica Fox will know

:19:39. > :19:42.it. She has to pick the line, a heavy hit before 21 and she has gone

:19:43. > :19:48.to the right-hand side of it, turning around. This is her Olympic

:19:49. > :19:53.medal hope over, surely. With the penalty as well, Katerina Kudejova

:19:54. > :19:57.has lost a chance but this is a sport won and lost by such slim

:19:58. > :20:02.margins. You make a mistake like that, you know you might try and

:20:03. > :20:06.persuade yourself otherwise but you know your chance of gold has

:20:07. > :20:10.definitely gone and she knows the chance of any medal has gone. 8.27

:20:11. > :20:17.outside and dropping down into seventh position. Fox, Jones and

:20:18. > :20:24.Jana Dukatova rather best. The subcontinent are leading this.

:20:25. > :20:28.Slovakia, after their medal in the men's C2, the leading nation in

:20:29. > :20:34.terms of Olympic medals, they have just gone ahead of France but fans

:20:35. > :20:39.can't improve on that because they don't have anyone competing in the

:20:40. > :20:53.women's K-1 final -- fans can't improve. Katerina Kudejova failed to

:20:54. > :21:05.produce her best. Three to go, Spain, Great Britain and Austria.

:21:06. > :21:11.That's a nice shot. Just Fox -- Jessica Fox, Luuka Jones, will do a

:21:12. > :21:18.lot of training together as we see. Maialen Chourraut win the start game

:21:19. > :21:24.for Spain. Bronze in 2012. Can she add to that collection here? Here we

:21:25. > :21:29.go. What do you think that the first split, Helen, to be realistic,

:21:30. > :21:34.within seconds to have a chance? I think so, certainly. Maialen

:21:35. > :21:37.Chourraut is a dynamic paddler, she has a light feel of the water, she

:21:38. > :21:41.is renowned for getting her boat dancing on top of it and she is

:21:42. > :21:45.looking good at the moment. A different paddler to Jessica Fox.

:21:46. > :21:49.She has to be tight round the upstream gates. It looks very quick

:21:50. > :21:54.in, will she get through the lid stoppers without any trouble? The

:21:55. > :21:58.bow was thrown high which will have cost her a fraction but it doesn't

:21:59. > :22:07.matter because she still has the light. This is where Jessica Fox

:22:08. > :22:12.came to life. Goodspeed on the way out, she kept her boat running.

:22:13. > :22:18.Keeps her boat running, get the wide angle through 16 so she can drive

:22:19. > :22:22.into 17. Again, Jessica Fox was tight, one, two, three strokes to

:22:23. > :22:26.get back on the water. That's her advantage gone without a doubt, I

:22:27. > :22:32.say that, she's made a good time before that. 61.32, so still looking

:22:33. > :22:39.good for Maialen Chourraut of Spain, who would love the women's seen one

:22:40. > :22:43.simply because others are such that enters paddler but she is holding

:22:44. > :22:50.her own at the moment. Back again, it's going to be tight around the

:22:51. > :22:54.upstream gate. She has to drive. You are not allowed to get annoyed with

:22:55. > :22:59.is on BBC Four, but with good reason we are switching the coverage of

:23:00. > :23:04.this canoeing final over to BBC One. If you join it right now, you will

:23:05. > :23:07.not miss Fiona Pennie at all. She's going next, she is still in with a

:23:08. > :23:10.great shout with a medal of course and the reason we're doing that on

:23:11. > :23:15.BBC Four is because we are going to take you straight to the tennis

:23:16. > :23:21.because Andy Murray is in trouble against Italy's Fabio Fognini,

:23:22. > :23:27.really easy first set for Murray, Fabio Fognini won the second and

:23:28. > :23:31.Maria is a breakdown in the final sett. Let's see if the top remaining

:23:32. > :23:34.seed, the defending remaining champion, can get himself through

:23:35. > :23:41.into the fourth round of the terrace. We will pick up the

:23:42. > :23:41.commentary in the deciding set from Simon Reed.

:23:42. > :23:46.COMMENTATOR: Murray in all sorts of trouble, he

:23:47. > :23:57.lost eight games in a row before the last one but just as you join is,

:23:58. > :24:03.perhaps the bubble is bursting four one, Hitler has played some

:24:04. > :24:26.outstanding tennis. -- Fabio Fognini has played some outstanding tennis.

:24:27. > :24:32.Murray working his backside off to try to stay with Fabio Fognini but

:24:33. > :24:36.there has been some quite brilliant tennis from this Italian, who beat

:24:37. > :24:42.Murray in a Davis Cup tie in Naples a couple of years ago and is as good

:24:43. > :24:52.as anyone has played against Murray, so he will be very wary of this

:24:53. > :24:57.opponent. He's a real peacock is Fabio Fognini, he loves the big

:24:58. > :25:02.stage. He's got it here, around three quarters full, at least 7000.

:25:03. > :25:10.Around this Centre Court here at the Olympics Tennis Centre and he is

:25:11. > :25:27.He is asking Andy, he's not going to give him any help. It wasn't.

:25:28. > :25:39.A little unlucky because he would have been in control of the point.

:25:40. > :25:49.Murray has been complaining he's not been seeing the ball as well as

:25:50. > :25:51.usual, it's the sunshine and shade. And in irregular patterns it is

:25:52. > :25:53.obviously pretty difficult. It's the same for both.

:25:54. > :26:14.A wonderful atmosphere. The Brits responding now, the Italians have

:26:15. > :26:48.been in full voice earlier on. For a passage of around 40 minutes,

:26:49. > :26:53.Fabio Fognini wasn't making any errors. It's the pressure of being

:26:54. > :27:18.ahead, the pressure is starting to get to him. Break point for Murray.

:27:19. > :27:28.And now it's the Brits on their feet. The first significant success

:27:29. > :27:32.for Murray. For some while, 40 minutes. He was broken four

:27:33. > :27:41.successive times, but now at last he gets a break back and the match back

:27:42. > :27:45.in the melting pot. Murray having to draw on all his experience full stop

:27:46. > :27:50.it difficult conundrum, whether to go for a little bit more and try to

:27:51. > :27:57.take the match out of Fabio Fognini's hands, or play safe in

:27:58. > :28:04.windy conditions. It's a tightrope. But some success for Murray there.

:28:05. > :28:08.And timely, as well. Murray was on a run since Roland Garros of 14

:28:09. > :28:15.successive wins of course, winning Queen's for the fifth time, winning

:28:16. > :28:19.Wimbledon for the second time. And a couple of wins here, easy wins,

:28:20. > :28:26.against Viktor Troicki, then against Monaco, dropping four, but this is a

:28:27. > :28:41.totally different kettle of fish. When Fabio Fognini beat Murray in

:28:42. > :28:47.Naples a couple of years ago, it was so devastating. There were no

:28:48. > :28:48.hiccups along the way, just a little hick up there. How is he going to

:28:49. > :29:11.deal with that? So one break each in September

:29:12. > :29:39.three. -- inset number three. world. Outstanding K1 paddler and

:29:40. > :29:49.almost as good in the K1. Serving has not been as good as

:29:50. > :29:50.usual for Murray. First serve percentage, 54. In recent months, it

:29:51. > :30:12.has been more like 64. He has been super cool, Fognini,

:30:13. > :30:17.after the first set. Can he maintained that? As this match edges

:30:18. > :30:56.towards the nitty-gritty. Murray was making a lot of errors in

:30:57. > :31:03.the second set and at the start of the third, but now it seems as if

:31:04. > :31:06.Fognini has caught the bug. You can see the wind rustling the shirt. It

:31:07. > :31:21.is a significant factor in this match.

:31:22. > :31:28.Close. Murray only has one challenge remaining and we are only in the

:31:29. > :31:30.sixth game. That is probably on his mind now. If he had three comedy

:31:31. > :32:37.probably would have gone for that. Well, the magic does seem to have

:32:38. > :32:41.gone. Maybe only temporarily, but it is definitely not there at the

:32:42. > :32:47.moment from Fognini. He has played some spectacular tennis, but there

:32:48. > :32:52.is not much of it at the moment. Fognini ranked 40, but he has been

:32:53. > :33:00.as high as 13 in the world and Murray knows better than anyone else

:33:01. > :33:01.what a good player Fognini can be. But which Fabio Fognini Ahbe going

:33:02. > :34:07.to see from here on in? A war of attrition. And who would

:34:08. > :34:19.you back in a situation like that? Fognini has to do more.

:34:20. > :34:44.The longer the rally, the better Murray likes it.

:34:45. > :35:04.Signs of unease for the first time for a good while. We saw this in the

:35:05. > :35:11.opening set when nothing was going for him. Then he was in the zone.

:35:12. > :35:54.Claiming winners. Not at the moment. The worm has turned. And Fognini in

:35:55. > :35:58.all sorts of problems now. Three break points for Murray for his

:35:59. > :36:23.second successive break. Sheer willpower is turning this

:36:24. > :36:29.around. Murray has been far from his best, even in the opening set its

:36:30. > :36:41.was virtually a gimme because Fognini was so poor. But Murray has

:36:42. > :36:47.battled his way through some low form.

:36:48. > :36:59.His team have been through a whole lot together. Murray is digging in.

:37:00. > :37:10.We shall be back for the tennis in a moment. Loads of gymnastics coming,

:37:11. > :37:14.too. Live on BBC Four. Just to bring you up-to-date with what happened in

:37:15. > :37:20.the K-1 kayak which we show you show you on BBC One. Bad news for Fiona

:37:21. > :37:24.Pennie, great hopes for a medal, but she picked up some penalties on her

:37:25. > :37:29.way down and finished sixth in the end. Let's bring you the rest of the

:37:30. > :37:38.headlines on day six of the games here in Rio. A silver for David

:37:39. > :37:45.Florence and Richard Hounslow in the canoe double, just like four years

:37:46. > :37:48.ago in London. Also a silver medal for Kath Grainger and Vicky Thornley

:37:49. > :37:53.in the double sculls on the rowing lake. Amazing when you consider what

:37:54. > :37:58.they have been through in the build-up to the Games. Hopefully we

:37:59. > :38:01.will speak to them later. The rugby sevens has delivered again. Team GB

:38:02. > :38:07.have made it through to the final with a breathtaking painful 7-5 win

:38:08. > :38:13.in the semifinal over South Africa. They will play Fiji. Andy Justin

:38:14. > :38:18.Rose has been celebrating the first ever hole in one in the Olympics. He

:38:19. > :38:24.is four under par at the moment, four behind the leader, Marcus

:38:25. > :38:30.Fraser of Australia. Let's go straight back to the tennis. Andy

:38:31. > :38:33.Murray taking on Fabio Fognini and it is for- three. Murray a break-up

:38:34. > :39:22.and serving in the final set. Shouting and looking down the court

:39:23. > :39:24.at Fognini. Another error from the Italian racket. They are coming

:39:25. > :40:16.thick and fast now. That's how dangerous he can be. Such

:40:17. > :40:51.a wiki style, he's got. Huge timing. Winner out of nowhere there.

:40:52. > :41:11.There's a lot of shaking of the head going on.

:41:12. > :41:16.The thing with Fognini is he can turn it around so suddenly and then

:41:17. > :41:42.be breathtakingly good. But he is far from breathtakingly

:41:43. > :41:47.good at the moment. Five successive games to Murray. He is a game away

:41:48. > :42:21.from the quarterfinal of the Olympics.

:42:22. > :42:28.One of the people said to Murray, how does it feel to defend your

:42:29. > :42:33.title? You said, I'm not defending my title, I have won a gold, they

:42:34. > :42:34.are not taking that away from me. I am just looking for another Olympic

:42:35. > :43:05.gold. It is hard to accept. You can

:43:06. > :43:08.understand it. He was so good through the second set on start of

:43:09. > :43:10.the third and now he is far from that and Murray is reaping the

:43:11. > :43:50.reward. Wow, wonderful. It is the back hands

:43:51. > :43:54.across that have been a feature of Murray's aggressive play, but then

:43:55. > :44:19.he changes the point of attack and here are three match points.

:44:20. > :44:30.Well, he lost the point but he used -- you can see what winning another

:44:31. > :44:46.Olympic title would mean to Murray. It's a way, and so, too, is Fabio

:44:47. > :44:53.Fognini. Murray is through to the quarterfinal.

:44:54. > :45:04.It was mighty hard work. Two hours and seven minutes, it seesawed so

:45:05. > :45:08.dramatically. It was a gift, the first set, and then Fognini took

:45:09. > :45:13.fire and it really looks tricky for Murray at 3-0 down in the third set

:45:14. > :45:15.will stop but he drew on all his experience and somehow he's found a

:45:16. > :45:26.way to win. Heather as thrilled as everyone

:45:27. > :45:33.else, bearing in mind what happened in Naples, when he was destroyed by

:45:34. > :45:36.Fabio Fognini, that is a concern grew -- considerable effort for

:45:37. > :45:45.Andy, because things were not looking good at all. Tough

:45:46. > :45:50.conditions. He has been able to come through.

:45:51. > :46:02.CHEERING Marked contrast from his first two

:46:03. > :46:07.rounds, Viktor Troicki beaten for the loss of just five games, Juan

:46:08. > :46:12.Monaco, he dropped just four games. He must have felt close to going out

:46:13. > :46:24.there this afternoon. But he has battled. He used all the resilience

:46:25. > :46:30.that he has at his disposal. He can relax now. Steve Johnson is the man

:46:31. > :46:35.he will play in a quarterfinal, Johnson who beat his opponent 6-1,

:46:36. > :46:39.6-1 today, and Murray will hope to play better, hope the conditions are

:46:40. > :46:48.good as well, but he has got through 6-3 in the third.

:46:49. > :46:52.STUDIO: Brilliant from Andy Murray, Steve

:46:53. > :46:58.Johnson awaits in the quarterfinals. It looks a bit wobbly when Fabio

:46:59. > :47:03.Fognini won eight games on the trot but eight -- but all smiles from the

:47:04. > :47:07.British top seed. He is defending, that is -- the tennis coverage will

:47:08. > :47:11.continue now on the Red Button, Johanna Konta is up next against the

:47:12. > :47:14.Wimbledon finalist Angelique Kerber, also in the quarterfinals trying to

:47:15. > :47:18.get through to the last four for her. I don't know what you've been

:47:19. > :47:23.enjoying watching the Olympics over the last few days, we had wonderful

:47:24. > :47:26.sport, the tennis has been brilliant, the rugby sevens, and

:47:27. > :47:31.hopefully some of it has inspired you to try it yourself.

:47:32. > :47:35.Get inspired is BBC sport's campaign to get you active. It's on the

:47:36. > :47:39.website. You can find inspirational stories from people just like new as

:47:40. > :47:44.well as hints, tips and over 70 practical guides to help you get

:47:45. > :47:48.going. There's also an activity finder to help you find something to

:47:49. > :47:51.try near you, and you can tell is how you are getting on and ask those

:47:52. > :47:55.questions through our social media recounts on Twitter and Facebook and

:47:56. > :47:59.maybe you can inspired to give some -- inspire someone else to give

:48:00. > :48:04.something a try. We are passing the baton to you. Get up, get inspired

:48:05. > :48:09.and get active. Well worth having a look at that on

:48:10. > :48:12.the BBC website. I was reading about Joe Clarke, he got into condemning

:48:13. > :48:16.because he went on a scout trip and look at him now, he has yesterday

:48:17. > :48:19.won a gold medal in the K-1. Hopefully somebody is there watching

:48:20. > :48:22.the canoeing, watching the rugby, watching athletics in a few days'

:48:23. > :48:27.time or the rugby, and that can inspire you to get into sport

:48:28. > :48:33.yourself. It might not be you get to Olympic level but hopefully you can

:48:34. > :48:36.get out there and enjoying doing something. Loads of information on

:48:37. > :48:40.the website to find your local club if you fancy having a go. Those who

:48:41. > :48:44.have done it and got to the Olympics and achieved great things, we can

:48:45. > :48:51.tell you about those now in our BBC for headlines. Silver today for

:48:52. > :48:55.David Florence and Richard Hounslow. A British guy going in the canoe

:48:56. > :48:59.double, just like they did four years ago in London. Florence was

:49:00. > :49:09.the man who finished last in the C1, he is back in the double with the

:49:10. > :49:12.silver. Same colour medal for Kath Grainger and Vicky Thornley in the

:49:13. > :49:17.double sculls earlier today at the Lagoa Stadium. They lost out to the

:49:18. > :49:20.Polish pair, amazing when you consider what they've been through

:49:21. > :49:27.in the build-up to these games, not many gave them a chance of a medal

:49:28. > :49:30.and they have won the silver. The rugby sevens has delivered in both

:49:31. > :49:36.the women's and men's tournament and Team GB into the final. They

:49:37. > :49:42.squeezed past South Africa 7-5. It was tense at the end but they will

:49:43. > :49:47.face the chief for the gold medal. -- they will face Fiji for the gold

:49:48. > :49:51.medal. Golf is that the Olympics for the first time in a long time,

:49:52. > :49:56.Justin Rose got the first-ever hole in one at the Olympic Games. He is

:49:57. > :50:03.four under par, four behind the leader from Australia, Marcus

:50:04. > :50:06.Fraser. Now, I know there were a few rumours yesterday the weather was so

:50:07. > :50:10.bad here at Copacabana that people were saying you are not in Brazil at

:50:11. > :50:14.all, you were at Weston-Super-Mare, someone suggested Scarborough and

:50:15. > :50:17.Grimsby! We can show you our other camera just on the right-hand side,

:50:18. > :50:24.which can show you the delights of Copacabana Beach. This has been

:50:25. > :50:27.around for 100 years, look at the sunshine, the wind is back, you can

:50:28. > :50:33.see the flags fluttering away. Those two there, that is Frescobaldi which

:50:34. > :50:42.I have been telling you about. Normally it is more frantic than

:50:43. > :50:46.that. -- Fresco ball. You have to smash it at each other, these two

:50:47. > :50:50.are sedate. Hopefully we will bring you some high octane Fresco ball

:50:51. > :50:54.later on. Unfortunately it's not an Olympic sport but we have plenty to

:50:55. > :51:00.cover. This is what we are bringing you in the next few hours on BBC

:51:01. > :51:05.Four. We will have the all-around women's final coming up next. I know

:51:06. > :51:10.there is bungee of gymnasts watching this, looking to get a glimpse of

:51:11. > :51:14.Simone Biles -- there is plenty of gymnasts. She is the overwhelming

:51:15. > :51:21.favourite for gold medal. 10pm, boxing. The rugby sevens gold medal

:51:22. > :51:26.match we were telling you about is on BBC One at 11pm, Team GB taking

:51:27. > :51:31.on Fiji. Fiji have never won an Olympic medal. Could it be gold or

:51:32. > :51:36.can Team GB be win as rugby sevens comes into the Games for the first

:51:37. > :51:41.time? Table tennis, the men -- the men's individual gold medal match at

:51:42. > :51:49.1:30am and we have some badminton a bit later as well. Right now, yes,

:51:50. > :51:53.it's about Simone Biles, this is the second of five potential gold medals

:51:54. > :51:56.she could win at these games. Let's not forget Ellie Downie, Great

:51:57. > :52:02.Britain's sole representative in the women's all around iss. She is

:52:03. > :52:06.aiming to beat the previous best magician finish of 12, set by her

:52:07. > :52:14.sister in 2008. It's time for some gymnastics.

:52:15. > :52:40.Hopefully that has got you in the mood. We will take you right through

:52:41. > :52:44.to the end of the all-around final. We can go to the Rio Olympic Arena

:52:45. > :52:50.and join our team, Beth Tweddle, Daniel Keatings and first up, Matt

:52:51. > :52:53.Baker. Good evening, one and all. Gymnastics is always a spectacle

:52:54. > :52:57.here at the Olympics and goodness me, we have had three days of

:52:58. > :53:02.gripping finals at the Olympic Arena. We are waiting for the women

:53:03. > :53:05.to enter into the arena for the all-around championship which we

:53:06. > :53:08.will talk about in a moment but we will reflect on what happened

:53:09. > :53:13.yesterday, with the men's all-around final. Do you think that was the

:53:14. > :53:16.best all-around final we have ever seen? Definitely, I think is the

:53:17. > :53:21.best all-around final I've ever seen. Just the standard, the quality

:53:22. > :53:27.of gymnastics on show was unbelievable. It was great to see

:53:28. > :53:31.someone challenging Kohei Uchimura as well. He was undefeated for about

:53:32. > :53:36.seven years but it was a fight all the way to the end. It went down to

:53:37. > :53:40.the wire, didn't it? It did and that is why gymnastics is so exciting, it

:53:41. > :53:51.was literally down to the last routine. Kohei Uchimura took the

:53:52. > :53:56.second Olympic title, here is Oleg Verniaiev, the routine, it was a

:53:57. > :53:59.high pressurised situation, he scored 15 points something in

:54:00. > :54:05.qualification but the little hop took the title away from him. He put

:54:06. > :54:09.in a huge score on parallel bars, enough to put him ahead of the world

:54:10. > :54:14.champion, Kohei Uchimura on high bar, but the little hop was costly.

:54:15. > :54:19.It was and he was nine tenths ahead going into high bar. Everyone knows

:54:20. > :54:23.Kohei Uchimura is amazing on high bar so he needed to create as much

:54:24. > :54:26.from that as possible and unfortunately, if he had stuck his

:54:27. > :54:31.dismount, he could have picked him but it wasn't to be. In the other

:54:32. > :54:35.group was a certain acts Whitlock. Because he qualified in 12, he

:54:36. > :54:38.wasn't going around with Kohei Uchimura and Oleg Verniaiev which

:54:39. > :54:43.kind of helped him, he started on pommel horse which is his strongest

:54:44. > :54:49.suit. He is world champion. What a routine to get his six pieces off to

:54:50. > :54:54.a belter. It was as good as he could do it Andy got a huge score which

:54:55. > :54:58.set is competition off, it relaxed into the competition. He was ahead

:54:59. > :55:03.right from the start and I think it gave him the confidence boost to put

:55:04. > :55:07.it through the whole way around. His next goal as far as the pommel horse

:55:08. > :55:13.is concerned is to try and win the Olympic final. We can see Max

:55:14. > :55:17.receiving his bronze medal for the overall, he has got his eye on the

:55:18. > :55:21.Olympic pommel horse title and do you think now he has the bronze it

:55:22. > :55:25.will release the pressure on him? I think it will little bit, the

:55:26. > :55:30.all-around was what he and his coach had been working for, they wanted to

:55:31. > :55:33.sort of, he has been picking up medals in the all-around and he

:55:34. > :55:42.wants to show he's one of the best in the world. Once he had done the

:55:43. > :55:47.vault he settled down a lot. He has a floor final to get the atmosphere

:55:48. > :55:52.again and move on over to the pommel horse. Is it fair to say he could

:55:53. > :55:57.sneak a bronze on the floor final, Dan? I think he could, yes. He

:55:58. > :56:01.could, he's feeling relaxed, he's got the difficulty. I think the

:56:02. > :56:06.pressure is off, he has an Olympic medal so he can enjoy it and really

:56:07. > :56:10.go for it in both the floor run the pommel horse and I think he's in a

:56:11. > :56:13.really good position. As you suggested, Beth, he has been

:56:14. > :56:18.concentrating on the all-around because that is the ultimate

:56:19. > :56:22.accolade and we will see the gymnasts working on all four pieces

:56:23. > :56:30.of act -- apparatus, the vault, the beam, floor, the all-around

:56:31. > :56:35.something special. You have to keep the concentration across all four

:56:36. > :56:38.apparatus, I had 35 seconds to concentrate on whereas Ellie Downie

:56:39. > :56:42.will have to go out there, she is starting on floor, she has to do

:56:43. > :56:46.that piece, then come down for a bit while the other gymnasts performed,

:56:47. > :56:49.pick herself back up, drop down, it's quite a roller-coaster and if

:56:50. > :56:53.things don't go according to plan its how do you pick yourself back

:56:54. > :57:03.up? There is a certain gymnast that everyone is looking forward to here

:57:04. > :57:05.in the all-around final, she is three times world all-around

:57:06. > :57:08.champion, she is Simone Biles. This is her first Olympics. She was too

:57:09. > :57:09.young to compete in London but already she has made quite an

:57:10. > :57:18.entrance. Representing the United States of

:57:19. > :57:41.America, Simone Biles. # lay lay my heart down

:57:42. > :57:45.# Laid it down for you # Laid it down for you

:57:46. > :57:52.# Oh #. This gymnast is so powerful.

:57:53. > :57:57.# Put them out to you # Oh, Lord, I was reaching for you,

:57:58. > :58:06.reaching for you #. All smiles from Biles.

:58:07. > :58:13.Matt Baker-macro this is that top group of six gymnasts. You can see

:58:14. > :58:19.Simone Biles in the middle there. Really, the world's media have

:58:20. > :58:24.already given her this gold. I mean, she has done it, nor is a lot of

:58:25. > :58:27.pressure on her. There is a lot of pressure, coming in as three times

:58:28. > :58:32.world champion everyone expects her to win and the battle is for second

:58:33. > :58:36.and third. We have seen her at Olympic trials this year, she has

:58:37. > :58:39.fallen off, at the World Championships last year when the

:58:40. > :58:43.pressure was on for the third consecutive title she had a fault so

:58:44. > :58:48.she has looked superb throughout this Championships so I would be

:58:49. > :58:54.very surprised if anyone takes her off that top spot. She is 19 years

:58:55. > :58:58.old, you can see her smiling and enjoying the feeling, the energy,

:58:59. > :59:02.the expectation. It will be really interesting to see how she goes,

:59:03. > :59:06.because she's aiming for the five golds. It's never been achieved by

:59:07. > :59:12.female gymnast before. Do you think she can do it? I think she can do

:59:13. > :59:18.it. This vault is unbelievable, the two and a half, she makes it look so

:59:19. > :59:22.easy. If she gets a perfect ten, which we haven't seen for a number

:59:23. > :59:28.of years. The bars is her weakest piece but even as her weakest piece

:59:29. > :59:33.she is still scoring a 15. The mind boggles -- boggles what she can do

:59:34. > :59:38.on beam. It's almost like a tumbling pass on the floor. It's like a house

:59:39. > :59:42.brick. It's unbelievable. The height on the floor area, she goes higher

:59:43. > :59:46.than most of the men do. For someone so small, four foot and eight

:59:47. > :59:51.inches, it's incredible. That will be her last piece of operators, the

:59:52. > :59:56.floor, because she was highest qualifier, so she will bring the

:59:57. > :00:01.curtain down in style but really, we saw her alongside her compatriot

:00:02. > :00:09.Alison Raisman and she is in with a chance of a medal here, four Olympic

:00:10. > :00:13.golds. She had to fight to get into the all-around competition in the

:00:14. > :00:15.first place, we had the reigning all-around champion with Gabriel

:00:16. > :00:21.Douglas finishing in third, so she has done the hard work just to get

:00:22. > :00:25.here. In London 2012, she was in the mix for a medal but she actually

:00:26. > :00:29.messed up on bars and came fourth, so she will want to put that right

:00:30. > :00:34.and go home with an all-around medal this time, and she is renowned for

:00:35. > :00:36.her floor and vault, where she is such a powerful gymnast and the

:00:37. > :00:42.first tumble she does, you are seeing it now, the one and a half

:00:43. > :00:43.walk out into the double Arabian, she doesn't just stop there, she

:00:44. > :01:02.punches out of it. If Mustafina can reproduce the

:01:03. > :01:08.performance she did in the team final, she could be Aly Raisman. She

:01:09. > :01:13.could. There is that potential there, she could split the two

:01:14. > :01:22.Americans and get the silver medal. That would be amazing. We talked a

:01:23. > :01:27.lot about the young Russians coming up from the junior ranks and really

:01:28. > :01:35.pushing the lights of Mustafina and that brings a lot of competition.

:01:36. > :01:43.The youngsters are really nipping at the seniors' feet. We saw Mustafina

:01:44. > :01:50.earlier in the year at the European Championships and she had improved.

:01:51. > :01:59.She has got the man in that she used to win the Olympic title in 2012.

:02:00. > :02:04.Would she be up on the podium? They have to keep an eye on the Chinese

:02:05. > :02:10.gymnasts. I think it will be like the men's it will be down to that

:02:11. > :02:18.last routine. The silver and bronze are really up for grabs. Let's talk

:02:19. > :02:23.about Ellie Downie because she had a bit of a sticky qualification. She

:02:24. > :02:29.had a few interesting moments in the team final. As far as the difficulty

:02:30. > :02:35.level, as a young gymnasts, 5.8 on the bolt. We know she has got a

:02:36. > :02:39.strong character and to come out after that for she had on the

:02:40. > :02:47.qualifications on the floor and then to go and perform this, under that

:02:48. > :02:54.pressure, to do it and nail it is something that really shows what an

:02:55. > :03:00.amazing athlete she is. She has made quite an impact on the seniors since

:03:01. > :03:04.moving up from the juniors. She had a silver on floor at the European

:03:05. > :03:08.Championships and she is a gymnast who learned a lot from her

:03:09. > :03:14.experience. If she can put into practice what she has experienced,

:03:15. > :03:18.she could get into the top ten. Definitely and she is growing with

:03:19. > :03:29.every competition. The more competition experience she gets, the

:03:30. > :03:32.more competition will get better. Her sister got 12 at Beijing, the

:03:33. > :03:39.highest place in an all-round competition for the women's British

:03:40. > :03:48.gymnasts. This is what they are like at home.

:03:49. > :03:57.I have an older sister Jemma and I am the second eldest and then I have

:03:58. > :04:01.a brother Josh. We did not know much about the sport and I got into it

:04:02. > :04:06.because my friend at school did it and I enjoyed it and it rapidly took

:04:07. > :04:13.over my life and then went Ellie came onto the scene, we did

:04:14. > :04:18.everything together. Like most of my life I have been in the gym and I

:04:19. > :04:23.spend time with my family outside the gym and that is what we do when

:04:24. > :04:31.we have free time. Can you remember when Becky made that first spot? I

:04:32. > :04:36.kind of remember watching her on TV, but when you are a little, it is

:04:37. > :04:39.like she is at another competition. I remember waking up really early

:04:40. > :04:46.and watching her on the all-round final. It spurred me on and I

:04:47. > :04:50.thought, if she has got there, I can get there as well, as she has been a

:04:51. > :04:59.big inspiration for me. As sisters you get on most of the time. Do you

:05:00. > :05:03.fall out? We do not fall out badly, we just irritate each other

:05:04. > :05:19.sometimes. What do you fall out about? Normally Becky's moaning

:05:20. > :05:24.irritates me. Coming into my first year I did not expect to achieve as

:05:25. > :05:28.much as I did. It was a big shock for me and I wanted to do the best I

:05:29. > :05:31.could do and to come third was amazing and it gave me a confidence

:05:32. > :05:39.boost going into the World Championships. We are interested in

:05:40. > :05:47.the same music and our clothes style is similar. We get each other's

:05:48. > :05:54.jokes. 30 seconds of warmer remaining. This is the all-round

:05:55. > :05:58.competition, so all 24 gymnasts will compete on every piece of apparatus.

:05:59. > :06:04.At the end of that all the scores are added together and a gymnast

:06:05. > :06:08.with the highest total wins. This one is about consistency and four

:06:09. > :06:13.pieces and you cannot afford too many errors. No, if you make one

:06:14. > :06:21.small error, that is your Olympic challenge over. They have got to be

:06:22. > :06:37.consistent from the word go. Dan, who is your one, two, three? Simone

:06:38. > :06:43.Biles, Aly Raisman and Mustafina. If there is a slight mistake, Ellie can

:06:44. > :06:50.get in there with a medal. Christine Still is very much a part of the

:06:51. > :06:54.great British Olympic project. She has gymnasts herself within the

:06:55. > :06:55.British squad. We are just watching alleyways and get into position. The

:06:56. > :07:21.top group starts on the vault. Doing one of the most difficult

:07:22. > :07:30.there is, she is the leader of the Brazilian team. She held onto it

:07:31. > :07:37.well. She has huge support here. Beth, that was a good start for the

:07:38. > :07:42.Brazilian. It was. You can see the flick entry and keeping her body

:07:43. > :07:55.straight. Just slightly behind and a small hop. But a superb start on

:07:56. > :08:01.such a difficult vault. She had major surgery in June last year, so

:08:02. > :08:09.to be back competing is a major achievement in itself. We will see

:08:10. > :08:20.lots of gymnasts using this round of entry. Depending how high they get

:08:21. > :08:33.on the platform means a number of twists that they can get out of it.

:08:34. > :08:48.It is a very good start. The second gymnast is Aly Raisman.

:08:49. > :08:52.The vault is over so quickly, but it is a chance for the gymnasts to get

:08:53. > :09:03.a high score and start off the competition as well as possible.

:09:04. > :09:09.She had a bit of flight and height left, so although there is a bit of

:09:10. > :09:17.deduction for not having much control, the judges were like it

:09:18. > :09:25.because she had a lot of flight. She is certainly capable of the high 15

:09:26. > :09:33.is back, Chris. She is indeed. She lost a tiny bit of leg form at the

:09:34. > :09:39.end. The vault is marked out of 6.3. You get ten for execution. There

:09:40. > :09:48.will be a deduction for the hop and the band 's lead and that will come

:09:49. > :09:53.off the execution score. I am being pernickety, would you say that was

:09:54. > :09:59.off-line because it landed in that section? Oh, yes. It does not have a

:10:00. > :10:03.specific deduction, as long as it does not go outside the two far

:10:04. > :10:09.green lines, but they will have noted it was knocked down the

:10:10. > :10:21.middle. That is down a little bit on what she would have hoped for.

:10:22. > :10:24.Simone Biles, 19 years old. There is a possibility she could well score

:10:25. > :10:31.the perfect ten in the new scoring system. We will fill you in on that

:10:32. > :10:40.in a moment. But just enjoyed this power. Look at that height and

:10:41. > :10:47.weight for the twist? But she is a bit edgy, you can see that. The

:10:48. > :10:51.landing was uncharacteristic. A step forward, I think that means she is

:10:52. > :10:59.feeling the pressure. She is very excited. She already has a gold

:11:00. > :11:05.medal from the team final. Using that popular flick entry, but she

:11:06. > :11:10.gets huge height and to one half twists. But she has got so much

:11:11. > :11:16.power and energy it is hard to control especially when you are

:11:17. > :11:23.going for the Olympic title. But still a fantastic vault. She is so

:11:24. > :11:29.technically correct. She comes onto the platform with her arms locked by

:11:30. > :11:40.her ears and her shoulders open. The platform gives you quite a lot of

:11:41. > :11:49.lift, it is like a springboard. The way the competition runs, the top

:11:50. > :12:06.gymnasts are all here. That is an enormous start for Simon

:12:07. > :12:16.That is an enormous start for Simone Biles.

:12:17. > :12:26.she is looking to score over 15 with this. A very small gymnast, but very

:12:27. > :12:36.powerful. Using the Tsukahara with a double twist. A great way to start

:12:37. > :12:44.off her bid. She takes the piece of tape with her to show her where she

:12:45. > :12:52.wants to jump off on the board. It is a different approach. Sometimes

:12:53. > :12:55.the chalk gets marks and wipes away. That will be heavily deducted

:12:56. > :13:01.because her chest was down on landing. If you think about the ones

:13:02. > :13:10.we have seen before, they have had enough power to step backwards. It

:13:11. > :13:15.was a good line. It is and for such a small gymnast it is interesting to

:13:16. > :13:16.see that she is using the Tsukahara entry rather than the round of flick

:13:17. > :13:46.entry. Some tentative vaulting to start

:13:47. > :13:58.with. Mustafina, the gymnast we were talking about, the current Olympic

:13:59. > :14:06.all-round bronze medallist. A beautifully classic gymnast.

:14:07. > :14:15.The best landing we have seen yet. She is the gymnast with all the

:14:16. > :14:20.experience. This is the thing, how far do you go with the difficulty

:14:21. > :14:26.and how much execution do you try and achieve? With the new scoring

:14:27. > :14:30.system gymnasts can get extra marks with doing harder moves. Although

:14:31. > :14:37.she is executing it beautifully, it is not as difficult to stop the

:14:38. > :14:41.difficulty is down to Aly Raisman and Simone Biles, but the execution

:14:42. > :14:48.and landing is better than the other gymnasts. She has had a really clean

:14:49. > :14:55.start. She will score very well with that vault, even though the

:14:56. > :15:00.difficulty is 5.8. She knows she has not got as difficult routines as the

:15:01. > :15:06.Americans. What she has to do has to be extra clean. It must be a debate

:15:07. > :15:12.between the gymnasts and the coaches were you get your marks. It is

:15:13. > :15:16.always a debate. You have got to decide whether you go more difficult

:15:17. > :15:28.and take the risk, or to hold back and know you can execute it so well.

:15:29. > :15:36.Her compatriot is 17 years old. All-around gold at the Olympics. And

:15:37. > :15:44.a great competition qualification. Uses the double twist. She uses the

:15:45. > :15:49.split of the legs to start that twist.

:15:50. > :15:57.5.8 difficulty, same as the gymnast before, Mustafina. Yes, we saw

:15:58. > :16:02.Mustafina when she was younger do a more difficult fault, she got extra

:16:03. > :16:05.twists in Bert she got injured and since then, she has never used it.

:16:06. > :16:10.Seda Tutkhalyan has been impressive, she has been the most steady in the

:16:11. > :16:17.Russian team. But she got little deductions there, the judges will

:16:18. > :16:20.take marks for that. You can see her elbows bent on the top of the part

:16:21. > :16:26.form, they probably won't see the bent elbows but they will know it

:16:27. > :16:33.was not as high as the previous gymnast -- platform. She will lose a

:16:34. > :16:42.bit of height. But very well landed, the group on the vault are top

:16:43. > :16:49.qualifiers, the best in the world. 14.8664 Seda Tutkhalyan.

:16:50. > :16:59.Hannah Raisman focused on the bars, you can see the guards. The routine

:17:00. > :17:01.starts, your mind switches quickly cash?

:17:02. > :17:08.starts, your mind switches quickly Yes, a lot of the gymnasts use hand

:17:09. > :17:14.guard is, or to put bandages around their hands, Simone Biles is using

:17:15. > :17:18.hand guard 's. It protects them. Some love a lot of chalk, some like

:17:19. > :17:26.honey and chalk, some like sugar water. What about you? It was always

:17:27. > :17:31.chalk and water. You are allowed another gymnast to help you chalk up

:17:32. > :17:40.the bars, you get extra Walker -- warm up time to allow the change

:17:41. > :17:48.in the amount of chalk on the bars. Ellie Downie, let's see her on the

:17:49. > :17:54.floor. As you said in the build-up, she has had an up and down time at

:17:55. > :17:58.these Championships. Here we go, a super first tumble. 1.5 walk out

:17:59. > :18:08.into double Arabian, then the jump on the end. Very powerful gymnast

:18:09. > :18:21.indeed. Super hi double pike, Arabian, a little step. Her

:18:22. > :18:35.amplitude on the Leitz has improved so much, a good split there. --

:18:36. > :18:44.leap. Very clean, multiple twist, 2.5, meeting the floor beautifully.

:18:45. > :18:50.This has been a really well executed floor routine from Ellie Downie. The

:18:51. > :18:55.floor was a problem in qualification, she needs a big

:18:56. > :19:04.dismount... Here it comes... Super double pike! What a fantastic start

:19:05. > :19:13.to her Championships. Such an improved piece for Ellie Downie. The

:19:14. > :19:17.floor is very good. She scored 12.5 in qualification, so she is going to

:19:18. > :19:23.be well up on that. She qualified down in 20th, putting all of the

:19:24. > :19:28.ghosts to rest as far as tumbles are concerned? Yes, a very powerful

:19:29. > :19:33.start in her routine, 1.5 walk out into the double Arabian, straight

:19:34. > :19:36.into that jump, it gives her a good connection value, it builds up

:19:37. > :19:42.difficulty then come straight down the diagonal with a double pike

:19:43. > :19:49.Arabian, building difficulty ups right. She came to trouble here in

:19:50. > :19:55.qualifications, but sorted it, 2.5 twist, and then finally, with a

:19:56. > :19:58.double pike, she is such a powerful gymnast and it shows in her

:19:59. > :20:08.routines, with all of those difficult tumbles. That's a great

:20:09. > :20:13.start for Great Britain's Ellie Downie. Another gymnast who did not

:20:14. > :20:18.have much fun in qualification, Shang Chunsong qualified down in the

:20:19. > :20:22.20th, but she could be in with a shout, at times she has the

:20:23. > :20:27.execution. We have seen her on the scene for a while, but occasionally,

:20:28. > :20:32.she has a few problems with consistency. It will be interesting

:20:33. > :20:37.to see how she starts on this first piece of apparatus. The first sub

:20:38. > :20:42.sub series, well executed, straight into the two jumps, you need to show

:20:43. > :20:54.the judges these as a special requirement. Changing into full

:20:55. > :21:06.splits. Building up to another big connection, deflect one layout --

:21:07. > :21:11.the flecked one layout. And a solid front somersault into the jump. Each

:21:12. > :21:19.time they are connecting skills, they are getting bonuses, that is

:21:20. > :21:24.how they build up their difficulty. Very difficult to double spend...

:21:25. > :21:33.Performed absolutely beautifully -- double spin. The free walkover into

:21:34. > :21:35.the sheet jump, China are renowned for this piece of apparatus. The

:21:36. > :21:44.free cartwheel into another jump, it's

:21:45. > :21:49.interesting to see what the star value is for this routine. The last

:21:50. > :21:52.test, the big dismount, round off into triple turn, twist and a small

:21:53. > :21:58.hop on dismount. A great start to her Olympic Games.

:21:59. > :22:06.What a start indeed! Shang Chunsong. She will be back to find out her

:22:07. > :22:10.score shortly. And from Japan... A pirouette, letting her legs, part a

:22:11. > :22:20.little bit here. A very nice king, stooping out and a Flickr here. The

:22:21. > :22:25.judges deduct for those little bits -- Gienger. Stupas when the feed do

:22:26. > :22:27.not go on the bark you get a lot of marks for it. It has become very

:22:28. > :22:38.popular with the Jim -- with the gymnasts.

:22:39. > :22:47.Very happy, Japan did very well in the team competition. You can see

:22:48. > :22:54.the movement from the low bar to the high bar, a big wind up into the

:22:55. > :23:05.dismount, using the very popular... Back in full, two somersaults with a

:23:06. > :23:09.full twist. We saw in the all-round competition, she got a rib on her

:23:10. > :23:18.hands, where the friction gets too much. The top layer of skin bursts.

:23:19. > :23:22.Shang Chunsong scores 14.8 33. We spoke yesterday about where you

:23:23. > :23:24.start and how it affects where you are in the competition, the groups

:23:25. > :23:29.are in relation to where they qualified.

:23:30. > :23:34.I think for Shang Chunsong, she started with a shaky peace, she came

:23:35. > :23:36.in in the right frame of mind, it is not dwelling throughout the

:23:37. > :23:41.competition. To come in, nee let and get it at

:23:42. > :23:45.the way can help you? I think so, that was a very good beam routine,

:23:46. > :23:55.I'm surprised at how low it is. -- nail it.

:23:56. > :23:59.That was a very clean routine from Shang Chunsong. Elisabeth Seitz has

:24:00. > :24:05.qualified for the bars final, this is a great piece for her to start

:24:06. > :24:13.on. It is, it is a very dynamic bar routine. Straightaway, first skill

:24:14. > :24:18.up, a big connection bonus, and into the Gienger. Good height on these

:24:19. > :24:32.release and catchers. Another, straight down to the low bar.

:24:33. > :24:41.Keeping the flow going. The Shaposh, using the full term, back in full,

:24:42. > :24:45.and a clean landing. A very nice bar routine, a couple of pirouettes a

:24:46. > :24:49.bit late. But she has looked very good in this Championship, cutting

:24:50. > :24:55.her difficulty down on some pieces, but here, there's beautiful left on

:24:56. > :25:01.the bars, she uses it and flies from it, watch carefully. -- lift. She

:25:02. > :25:11.gets so much height she can straddle in and make a straddle catch over

:25:12. > :25:21.the bar, she instantly has two enormously different skills linked,

:25:22. > :25:26.and here two more. The stupid Tkachev and straight into the high

:25:27. > :25:32.bar again. It puts star value so high, linking these, and she had one

:25:33. > :25:43.of the highest in this routine -- the steeped Tkachev.

:25:44. > :25:49.Each country is allowed two gymnasts to compete in the top 24, it's a

:25:50. > :25:53.really interesting format. Gabby Douglas performed for the USA, and

:25:54. > :25:57.she did not get the chance to compete at this all-round final,

:25:58. > :26:00.although she was the third highest scorer and was in with a chance of

:26:01. > :26:02.an Olympic medal. We will continue that debate after Carlotta Ferlito

:26:03. > :26:26.on the floor. This is her piece... A superhigh

:26:27. > :26:29.leap... Really performing the floor... Full-twisting, double back

:26:30. > :26:44.to start. Gymnasts choose their own music to

:26:45. > :26:54.suit their personality, and then the routine has to reflect the music.

:26:55. > :27:07.Leeds, jumps, as well as tumbles, giving the difficulty. -- leaps.

:27:08. > :27:44.Selling the floor routine so well. Hands, face, a big tumble to finish,

:27:45. > :27:52.a lovely landing. A really well-balanced floor routine. And she

:27:53. > :28:02.absolutely loves to perform on the floor, she is very... She works to

:28:03. > :28:09.the crowd. 15 point 233 four Elisabeth Seitz, the first 15 we've

:28:10. > :28:13.had on the bars. It really makes a difference, you can see the

:28:14. > :28:27.difference in the fall double back, and a great landing -- 15.233. She

:28:28. > :28:30.really gets involved, you can see in her face.

:28:31. > :28:37.Such a powerful gymnast, who lost to showcase what she can do. Cleanly

:28:38. > :28:42.executed spin, and a final tumble with the double back. She just held

:28:43. > :28:50.it at the end. We could tell you that while

:28:51. > :28:58.Carlotta Ferlito was doing the floor routine, Shang Chunsong has put in

:28:59. > :29:04.an enquiry on her beam score, that was 14.833, we will see what happens

:29:05. > :29:10.there. You can only protest the difficulty score, they would have

:29:11. > :29:17.expected difficulty of 6.2 or 6.3, if it is 6.1, they will want to know

:29:18. > :29:26.what they did not count. We will have to wait until not only Carlotta

:29:27. > :29:32.Ferlito score's is in, it is in. Also that enquiry, before everyone

:29:33. > :29:37.can move on. As it stands at the moment... Simone Biles and Hannah

:29:38. > :29:45.Raisman with Rebeca Andrade from Brazil in third. Mustafina is in

:29:46. > :29:53.fiveth. Ahead of her team-mates -- fifth. We will get confirmation as

:29:54. > :30:01.soon as Shang Chunsong's score is in. Starting with the bolt, they are

:30:02. > :30:06.the best, that first group, that is a more assured high peace as long as

:30:07. > :30:10.you land on your feet -- vault. Ellie Downie will be going over to

:30:11. > :30:18.the vault now, we know that she has a great pedigree as far as that is

:30:19. > :30:20.concerned, the European silver medallist.

:30:21. > :30:24.It's the chance for her to make a real impact in the first half of

:30:25. > :30:33.this competition. And of course, the gymnasts compete, the best start on

:30:34. > :30:37.vault, the next bars, beam, floor, and because Ellie Downie had a big

:30:38. > :30:42.fall, she was not able to finish at the floor routine in provocation and

:30:43. > :30:46.she is in the last group meaning she starts on the floor, then does

:30:47. > :30:50.vault, great, but has to finish on the beam, she has two tricky pieces

:30:51. > :30:55.to do at the end. But saying she had that problem, she

:30:56. > :30:59.had to go out the arena as far as floor is concerned, but she came and

:31:00. > :31:07.did the vault terrifically. She showed her metal that day.

:31:08. > :31:14.It cannot be easy ECB is waiting for all of the gymnasts. Beth, when you

:31:15. > :31:18.are waiting and something like this happens, it must throw a spanner in

:31:19. > :31:27.the works. You just want to get on with the competition. Most of the

:31:28. > :31:32.gymnasts competing here today are experienced and they will have done

:31:33. > :31:38.major championships before. They are used to having to wait around. Maybe

:31:39. > :31:42.their coaches in training will do a bar routine and make them wait ten

:31:43. > :31:47.or 15 minutes before they are allowed to do the next routine, so

:31:48. > :31:52.they can practice for situations like this where there is a hold-up

:31:53. > :31:58.in the competition. It is a thing you learn early on as a gymnast.

:31:59. > :32:03.Regional competitions are very often not very smooth. It is something you

:32:04. > :32:07.grow up with really. Well, they are moving on and they are not going to

:32:08. > :32:15.wait. I do not know what is happening with the inquiry. We can

:32:16. > :32:19.see it says on the screen that the inquiry was rejected and she will

:32:20. > :32:25.remain with a score. We can move on with the competition. A chance to

:32:26. > :32:33.see Ellie Downie's routine whilst the gymnasts are warming up. How

:32:34. > :32:41.difficulty is through adding these moves. It is a huge double Arabian.

:32:42. > :32:48.Because those two moves are in one, they get a bonus as well as their

:32:49. > :32:55.own value. Actually, these are the same first two tumbles that you used

:32:56. > :33:00.to do. They are indeed. When you first build them up they are very

:33:01. > :33:05.difficult to do back-to-back. But LE is such a powerful gymnast and her

:33:06. > :33:10.spatial awareness is fantastic and she knows how much flotation to

:33:11. > :33:17.give. In the first time that we saw this routine we could see how much

:33:18. > :33:21.she had improved as well. It is the dance area that she has had to work

:33:22. > :33:28.so hard on. She is a very athletic gymnast. She is great at tumbling

:33:29. > :33:35.and voting, but the dance has not been so easy. She is almost better

:33:36. > :33:41.on those two pieces, where her sister Becky is better on the bars

:33:42. > :33:48.and the beam, the complete opposite. But this was a lovely start. She had

:33:49. > :33:57.a problem in qualification and she scored almost two is more this time

:33:58. > :34:06.than in qualification. 14.3, the highest scorer so far on the floor.

:34:07. > :34:45.Expect Giulia Steingruber to rise as the competition progresses. If you

:34:46. > :34:51.have not faltered, that can be a big scoring peace. You can see the first

:34:52. > :34:58.five out of the first six have all been on vault. It is a bar

:34:59. > :35:05.specialist that has crept into the top six for now. Shang Chunsong had

:35:06. > :35:10.a couple of problems in qualification, so that is why she

:35:11. > :35:16.started over on the beam. You cannot rule anyone out until they have been

:35:17. > :35:20.over to vault. Giulia Steingruber started on the beam. I would guess

:35:21. > :35:28.that although we did not see the routine that she probably fell. Over

:35:29. > :35:35.four pieces only it will be very difficult for her to push herself up

:35:36. > :35:40.into the top three. That top group go to the buyers and the second

:35:41. > :35:48.group go to the beam. The third group go to the floor and the fourth

:35:49. > :35:53.group go to the vault. We were talking earlier on about the fact

:35:54. > :35:58.there are 316-year-olds, Ellie Downie is 17. You have to build up

:35:59. > :36:01.an incredible armoury of moves at such a young age. What is the

:36:02. > :36:07.process of that from a coach's point of view? Most of these gymnasts will

:36:08. > :36:12.have started quite young and will have quite the big repertoire by the

:36:13. > :36:17.time they are 11 or 12. They will not have everything, but they will

:36:18. > :36:24.have all the basics. The things that you are going to build on. It is

:36:25. > :36:29.important by the age of 11 or 12 to have all the foundations set and

:36:30. > :36:35.then you can add the moves on. A lot of the older gymnasts who we saw at

:36:36. > :36:40.16, although they have improved a little bit, they do not improve

:36:41. > :36:45.massively after that. With the younger gymnasts they can do a lot

:36:46. > :36:49.more numbers within the training. As soon as you get older and your body

:36:50. > :36:57.takes longer to recover, you have to be more clever with your training.

:36:58. > :37:00.For example Jade Barboza had a bit of time out with injury and she has

:37:01. > :37:08.come back, but she will have to be a lot more clever than her team-mate

:37:09. > :37:13.in the build-up to this competition. Without giving your age away too

:37:14. > :37:19.much, death, how old were you when you felt you were at your peak? That

:37:20. > :37:25.is difficult because I went through different phases. But after Beijing,

:37:26. > :37:31.leading up to London, between myself and Amanda we had to be a lot more

:37:32. > :37:39.clever with how I'd train. I could not do the same things as the

:37:40. > :37:53.athlete training alongside me. This is incredibly important. She got a

:37:54. > :38:00.silver at the Euros. A perfect landing! I am absolutely thrilled

:38:01. > :38:06.for her. You can see the smile on her face. She has been training with

:38:07. > :38:16.the two and a half quite a lot, but not quite ready to perform it on

:38:17. > :38:22.this big stage. A super style. Legs locked together. Not a flicker.

:38:23. > :38:28.Great stuff. Very little deductions on that vault. The length, the

:38:29. > :38:41.height, everything is there. It is a 5.8 difficulty. We saw Aliya

:38:42. > :38:53.Mustafina do a 5.8 and all those top athletes in the mix. Ellie has a

:38:54. > :39:02.very good chance halfway round. Aly Raisman is the first gymnast on the

:39:03. > :39:05.buyers in this top group. She is not renowned for her buyer work, but

:39:06. > :39:17.that was a lovely handstand to start.

:39:18. > :39:28.You have to show forward and regular grip. That pirouette was a little

:39:29. > :39:36.bit late. You need to finish in the handstand. It is a workmanlike

:39:37. > :39:42.performance. Very nice double front this night. A bit off-line. It is

:39:43. > :39:49.not a great piece for Aly Raisman, but she has made it decent and that

:39:50. > :39:57.is the trick. Yes, and we know it was her nemesis in 2012 when she was

:39:58. > :40:02.going for an all-round medal. She came a cropper, but no problems

:40:03. > :40:08.today. It was a fighting routine and it will score a bit lower than in

:40:09. > :40:22.qualification. Not 100% straight legs. Down to the low bar and

:40:23. > :40:30.straight into the full-time. Slightly too late to be able to get

:40:31. > :40:33.her feet in, but a great dismount. Using her experience from the floor

:40:34. > :40:47.to be able to land that double front. That is the fifth highest

:40:48. > :41:02.vault score that we have seen. A former world and European

:41:03. > :41:13.all-round champion. Now 25 years old.

:41:14. > :41:21.Good, but slightly scrappy around the legs. We saw from Elie before

:41:22. > :41:29.have cleanly you can execute that. But that is a good start to her

:41:30. > :41:37.competition. That is a little bit down. These scores are lower than

:41:38. > :41:44.she would want. It leaves the door is open for a silver and a bronze.

:41:45. > :41:47.Simone Biles. This is not her strongest piece of apparatus, even

:41:48. > :41:55.though it will be mightily impressive. Here she goes, the

:41:56. > :42:04.leaders so far. Stars with a forward element, that is so difficult. But

:42:05. > :42:08.she did not go straight into the pirouette, but nice and tidy

:42:09. > :42:19.imperial wet. She is a bit leggy at times. With everything she works

:42:20. > :42:25.with great energy. Not such a difficult routine, but not a lot of

:42:26. > :42:31.deductions, especially when you land like that. Keep your eye on the

:42:32. > :42:37.execution score. You are loving every moment of that. I was, we know

:42:38. > :42:42.it is not her strongest piece, but even though it is not her strongest,

:42:43. > :42:49.she still scored a 15 in qualification. Her legs go slightly

:42:50. > :42:55.apart, but can the judges see that from the side. Even though it is not

:42:56. > :43:07.the most difficult, every skill she performs has got huge energy and it

:43:08. > :43:15.is very cleanly executed. Her legs are locked together throughout. And

:43:16. > :43:25.then the full dismount and there is nothing to take off on that

:43:26. > :43:34.dismount. Look at that landing. She is keeping her eye on the execution

:43:35. > :43:39.score, that is for sure. Vanessa Ferrari, down on Ellie Downie's

:43:40. > :43:43.score from Great Britain. It is always difficult when you follow

:43:44. > :43:53.somebody who is such a good vaulter. A direct comparison is difficult. At

:43:54. > :44:07.the moment Ellie Downie is just 0.4 behind Aly Raisman. Not breaking the

:44:08. > :44:11.15? It is not, but Aly Raisman's score was slightly down. It is a

:44:12. > :44:17.different set of judges to those in qualification. But it is the same

:44:18. > :44:26.judges as they come to each apparatus, so it will be consistent

:44:27. > :44:37.throughout the competition. Aliya Mustafina will go after Wang Yan.

:44:38. > :44:41.She is looking to improve. I think she had a fall in qualification on

:44:42. > :44:59.this piece, so she will be looking to sort that out.

:45:00. > :45:07.This is what the Chinese are renowned for, all the towns, into

:45:08. > :45:14.the Jager salto. Just slightly bent arms when she is catching. Such a

:45:15. > :45:24.small gymnasts to get from the low bike to the Haifa. Through an

:45:25. > :45:27.beautiful fashion. She qualified with the sixth highest all-round

:45:28. > :45:32.scorer with a full on that apparatus. In with a real chance.

:45:33. > :45:42.Now it is over to her compatriot from China. Shang Chunsong.

:45:43. > :45:53.She had a strong start on the bean, taking that graze over to the floor

:45:54. > :46:01.now. She starts with two very exciting tumbles. Carefully, see if

:46:02. > :46:04.you can count the twist... Around, off the backflip, 3.5, into the

:46:05. > :46:22.punch front, such a clean landing. A very different style, this has

:46:23. > :46:34.been very impressive, the 1.5 comedy walk out into the triple twist, and

:46:35. > :46:49.the punch front again. Just missing five spends, she made 4.5. -- spins.

:46:50. > :46:56.It's a different style, this. 2.5, front half, the first step on

:46:57. > :47:03.landing. A very supple gymnast, you can see her head goes back and she

:47:04. > :47:08.can easily hit the splits. She has not done a double somersault, she

:47:09. > :47:20.has to do at least one of those in the routine. Here it comes, a double

:47:21. > :47:25.pike without problem. Well, very efficient, very good

:47:26. > :47:29.tumbles. For me, the style was not something I enjoyed as much as some,

:47:30. > :47:42.but there is only a little bit that can be taken off because of that.

:47:43. > :47:48.Shang Chunsong waits for her score. Aliya Mustafina on the bars now.

:47:49. > :47:58.Prepare to be impressed. The current Olympic champion, on the bars. She

:47:59. > :48:07.scored 15.833 in qualification. But, this is a difficult and risky

:48:08. > :48:13.routine... A clean start with a stoop, straight into the high bar,

:48:14. > :48:18.low bar, connected back-up, that is where she builds difficulty, linking

:48:19. > :48:25.four elements in a row, the still path into the Yeager, cleanly

:48:26. > :48:35.caught. A final dismount to go, into the 1.5. -- Jager. We will take

:48:36. > :48:40.that! Aliya Mustafina in with a shout now. She looks on fire

:48:41. > :48:44.tonight, she really does, she was fairly ropey in the qualification,

:48:45. > :48:49.to be honest. The second night of the team final is much better and

:48:50. > :48:54.she looks like she is building. That routine is so clever because it is

:48:55. > :49:02.so short. Enough to put pressure on Simone Biles? We will have to wait

:49:03. > :49:08.and see. She has a very different style, grace and elegance, this will

:49:09. > :49:13.go well into the 15s. It is so high there. She sees everything cleanly.

:49:14. > :49:18.You know you only have to count the eight most difficult moves, she

:49:19. > :49:24.probably only does about ten. But they are ten very hard moves, they

:49:25. > :49:29.easily add up the difficulty. Fabulous control on her leg. Clever,

:49:30. > :49:34.you could see her looking over her shoulder and judging exactly where

:49:35. > :49:36.the floor was. Giving away as little as possible on those landings. That

:49:37. > :49:56.is where they will be won and lost. Prowling and waiting... Onto the

:49:57. > :50:02.beam next, for Mustafina. That is the piece where you win or lose, I

:50:03. > :50:06.know as much as anybody that she can be awful or brilliant on the beam,

:50:07. > :50:11.we've seen both in this Championship so far. Across men's and women's

:50:12. > :50:16.gymnastics, it seems the beam is the biggest leveller? It is, it's

:50:17. > :50:21.probably the piece of apparatus with the least margin for error. You only

:50:22. > :50:30.have to be a tiny fraction off, and that is a problem. Just to let you

:50:31. > :50:35.know what is happening in the arena, Jade Barbosa is on the floor, and

:50:36. > :50:41.has taken an injury. Things have just stopped for a moment. She is

:50:42. > :50:44.fine, she is all right. She is being attended to. If you can hear a lot

:50:45. > :50:50.of noise, that's what is going on. We just saw one of the pirouettes

:50:51. > :50:56.from Mustafina, her trademark is that she finishes her pirouette

:50:57. > :51:03.right on top of the bar. 15 six execs for Mustafina, down on her

:51:04. > :51:09.qualification score. We talked about the judges being different, are you

:51:10. > :51:13.surprised it was that low? -- 15.666. I thought it would be more

:51:14. > :51:23.like 15.8, I'm surprised it is down in the 60s. A 6.5 difficulty in

:51:24. > :51:32.qualification... Starting on the high bar, that was a really lovely

:51:33. > :51:39.Tkachev, it almost came to a standstill on the low bar, that was

:51:40. > :51:45.lovely, default turning Pak salto, out of trouble, gymnasts do that

:51:46. > :51:52.half turn in the middle of the routine. Packing in the difficulty,

:51:53. > :51:56.a term... There is the forward element. A big double front with a

:51:57. > :52:03.good landing. She really packed everything in there. Really fighting

:52:04. > :52:07.for the top five. The Russian gymnasts do very well in the team

:52:08. > :52:17.competition. They are obviously on a high. The historic silver. Here, you

:52:18. > :52:22.can see a big, high releasing catch. But just caught very close, she knew

:52:23. > :52:26.that to be able to push away, and again on the Pak salto, having to

:52:27. > :52:32.fight throughout the routine. Here you can see the full twist, and how

:52:33. > :52:35.out of line she is. But with her experience she can pull it back,

:52:36. > :52:44.spotting the bar all the way through. The Shaposh. That last

:52:45. > :52:53.skill committee have to count in every routine. -- that last skill,

:52:54. > :53:01.you have to count in every routine. She knows. A gymnast who really

:53:02. > :53:05.seems to enjoy herself in performance, we've seen over the

:53:06. > :53:08.years some of the Russians are very serious, they come in and you wonder

:53:09. > :53:15.how much they are enjoying themselves. But, she has this bark.

:53:16. > :53:19.A much more effervescent character, isn't she? Some look like they have

:53:20. > :53:23.the weight of the world on their shoulders, but I think that she is

:53:24. > :53:28.quite good for the team, she has lightened that a little. That was

:53:29. > :53:33.not a great bar routine, as she knows, you can see her saying, but

:53:34. > :53:41.it's, oh well, I fought through that. A great attitude. She is

:53:42. > :53:45.rewarded with that score. Yes, in competition you need those training

:53:46. > :53:55.routines, you need to go from a to B, but she still has 15.0 33. Onto

:53:56. > :53:59.the third highest qualifier... Rebeca Andrade, she had a leg injury

:54:00. > :54:05.last year, but she's back to competition. She only entered

:54:06. > :54:17.competition in March. So quite a comeback. 14.933 in qualification,

:54:18. > :54:28.can she creep into the 15 pro-Mac? She has been fantastic as a team

:54:29. > :54:33.member for Brazil. -- 15s. That was a nice Tkachev into the low bar. She

:54:34. > :54:39.was just on her fingertips there. The coaches allowed to stand in for

:54:40. > :54:47.big release elements. A very nice Jager, with somersault height. A

:54:48. > :54:53.clean half term. The full pirouette must be included in the big

:54:54. > :54:58.dismount, that was great. She had legs when though, that will lose her

:54:59. > :55:07.quite a bit. Already the chase is on for the silver and bronze medal.

:55:08. > :55:12.Disappointed, probably. She saw her team-mate had to stop on the floor,

:55:13. > :55:18.I saw her looking carefully. Here, you can see the stalled full turn,

:55:19. > :55:23.she had to use the tuck. Not only will she lose for no connection but

:55:24. > :55:30.she also loses for bent legs, but she continues the rest of the

:55:31. > :55:36.routine, the Tkachev, straight back into the pak. A clean body-line,

:55:37. > :55:40.coming in close, she pushes away. The Sharapova, she literally had it

:55:41. > :55:46.by her fingertips on that right hands -- Shaposh. A big and high

:55:47. > :55:54.front somersault, catching at arm's-length. Here, the toe on

:55:55. > :56:03.full-time. To finish the routine into the dismount. Default twisting

:56:04. > :56:07.double back. -- the twisting double back. She will be slightly

:56:08. > :56:18.disappointed with that routine, knowing that she has had to count

:56:19. > :56:25.the tax legs. -- tucked. Two more pieces, she was in third. Rebeca

:56:26. > :56:33.Andrade going into this piece. The score will go down a bit but not

:56:34. > :56:39.massively. That drops her into fifth, as it stands at the moment.

:56:40. > :56:47.Simone Biles, who is sitting in second place after Mustafina's bars.

:56:48. > :56:57.Well, that was not a position she expected to find herself in, I don't

:56:58. > :57:01.think. It will be interesting. Tutkhalyan in third, Ellie Downie in

:57:02. > :57:15.seventh, but it's very close between Simone Biles and Mustafina. Just 0.3

:57:16. > :57:20.in it. A step to the side. This is the thing. It is youth versus

:57:21. > :57:25.experience in this competition. This is Simone Biles's first Olympic

:57:26. > :57:30.Games, too young to compete in London. There is not much that

:57:31. > :57:33.Mustafina hasn't seen as far as international Jim competitions are

:57:34. > :57:39.concerned. She was the most decorated gymnast in 2012 --

:57:40. > :57:46.gymnastic competitions. Despite not being at her best, she won more

:57:47. > :57:53.medals than anyone else. On the floor for the Netherlands... Lieke

:57:54. > :57:58.Wevers. You were hoping that we would see a Netherlands gymnast on

:57:59. > :58:03.the floor? Yes, they offer such a different style. Her twin sister is

:58:04. > :58:12.also in the team but not competing today. The choreography for these

:58:13. > :58:18.gymnasts is fantastic, it is more theatrical, they tell a story and

:58:19. > :58:31.get emotionally involved throughout. They use a lot of the dance and

:58:32. > :58:36.spins. Very cleanly. Not the hardest of tumbles, a double tuck to start,

:58:37. > :58:43.but she builds up her difficulty, using all the leaps and jumps. Here

:58:44. > :58:54.is one of those leaps, she hit the splits each time. Just enjoy this

:58:55. > :59:01.choreography. Just falls out slightly at the end of the spin.

:59:02. > :59:18.Here goes for the next tumble... The 2.5 twist. So, you have to do eight

:59:19. > :59:21.counting elements. And, a maximum of five acrobatic elements, but you can

:59:22. > :59:30.do as many as you would like over the jumps and leaps. This is why you

:59:31. > :59:36.only see two acrobatic elements from the Dutch gymnast. That was very

:59:37. > :59:42.beautiful, mesmerising. Absolutely, it's another style of gymnastics,

:59:43. > :59:46.she was not so clean on her spins today, with the acrobatics, if you

:59:47. > :59:51.choose to spend, you had to finish completely. She fell out of a

:59:52. > :59:56.couple. -- spin. When you see a routine, it makes you want an extra

:59:57. > :00:01.score for artistry, you have the difficulty and are packing it in.

:00:02. > :00:07.But really, there should be an extra mark for flair? It's gone very quiet

:00:08. > :00:14.now... There are marks for artistry but they are quite prescribed. In a

:00:15. > :00:20.way, Simone Biles, it is not the same type of routine as that, but in

:00:21. > :00:25.her own weight she creates artistry. It is quite difficult but I know

:00:26. > :00:27.what you mean, -- in her way. You felt it came from the heart, not

:00:28. > :00:39.just from rote learning. If she could also up the tumble is a

:00:40. > :00:51.bit, she could be really competitive. She is coached by her

:00:52. > :00:55.dad as well as her sister. They are all part of the team from the

:00:56. > :01:02.Netherlands. They never stopped training, even when they go home. Do

:01:03. > :01:06.some press ups. It must be difficult if you have had a bad day in the gym

:01:07. > :01:10.and you get in the car going back and your dad is still going, this

:01:11. > :01:15.was not quite right, or when you get home and they still go on about it.

:01:16. > :01:21.They must set some boundaries as soon as they step outside the door.

:01:22. > :01:28.Your gymnastics is a family affair. Is this the first competition they

:01:29. > :01:32.had not been to? They were debating flying out here, but they say it is

:01:33. > :01:36.the first time since the Sydney Olympics they will be able to sit

:01:37. > :01:41.and watch it without feeling sick and also watch other sports. When

:01:42. > :01:47.you are watching your son or daughter compete you do not get much

:01:48. > :01:55.time to do anything else. They will be listening to you now, feeling

:01:56. > :02:01.very proud. Hello to them now. When all the judges are set and ready we

:02:02. > :02:07.can march on. Simone Biles leads them round to their third piece of

:02:08. > :02:18.apparatus. The top group now go to the beam. This is where the tension

:02:19. > :02:23.really merits. Whilst they are marching and warming up, let's watch

:02:24. > :02:27.Elizabeth Black. The Canadian team are disappointed not to have made

:02:28. > :02:37.the team final. She starts with a very difficult double spin.

:02:38. > :02:41.A good height, front somersault. She has got some very complex skills on

:02:42. > :03:06.the beam. A backflip. Nice rhythm. That was the difficult for twisting

:03:07. > :03:08.back somersault and it was well performed. She travelled backwards,

:03:09. > :03:26.but not a flick of a wobble. Another front somersault into a jump

:03:27. > :03:28.right at the end of the routine, packing the whole length of the

:03:29. > :03:42.beam. This is the dismount. She will be very pleased with that

:03:43. > :03:49.performance. The Commonwealth beam champion. We will bring you the

:03:50. > :03:55.standings of how things look and it is not what people are expecting.

:03:56. > :04:03.Aliya Mustafina is ahead of Simone Biles. Aly Raisman drops to four.

:04:04. > :04:21.Shang Chunsong is sixth. Ellie Downie has moved up from 11

:04:22. > :04:27.into seven. That is so difficult. She came down to the low bar and got

:04:28. > :04:33.her feet immediately onto the bar. Many gymnasts tried that and it is

:04:34. > :04:38.frustrating. It is such a difficult combination to master. Lots of

:04:39. > :04:49.gymnasts will be flying off left, right and centre trying that

:04:50. > :04:55.combination. But she brought this dismount back. She is landing blind.

:04:56. > :05:01.Then you go to a different style of gymnastics with Simone Biles. A big

:05:02. > :05:06.Tkachev, but she has not got the connections that Aliya Mustafina

:05:07. > :05:11.had. That is why her score is nearly one marked lower than Aliya

:05:12. > :05:18.Mustafina. But she will catch her up on the floor. But what she does she

:05:19. > :05:27.executes very well. And Tkachev on beam as well. If she comes off and

:05:28. > :05:38.Aliya Mustafina stays on, it will be interesting. This is Ellie Downie's.

:05:39. > :05:43.Landing that every gymnast dreams. Aliya Mustafina has had her big

:05:44. > :05:50.hitting piece. She is much better on bars than any of the American girls.

:05:51. > :05:55.That was a great landing. Straight down the line, everything, so on

:05:56. > :06:01.song. She has always had a great feel for vault. She goes another

:06:02. > :06:15.metre higher than anyone else in the gym. Ellie's group moved over to the

:06:16. > :06:20.buyers. Simone Biles is looking as relaxed as possible. Aly Raisman is

:06:21. > :06:27.getting a feel of the beam in her three minutes warm up which is

:06:28. > :06:35.coming to an end now. As soon as she dismounts and Simone Biles will get

:06:36. > :06:40.set. Somehow, if she manages to achieve the most mind blowing

:06:41. > :06:53.acrobatics on something that is no wider than the

:06:54. > :07:04.length of a small track. You will do this routine thousands and thousands

:07:05. > :07:11.of times, but some skills can take a long time. This looks a lot easier

:07:12. > :07:18.than it actually is. Very difficult, but you have to include a spin. When

:07:19. > :07:31.you include it, you do not have to do another one. Her chest was a bit

:07:32. > :07:34.low fare. Simone Biles, not many times do people talk about her

:07:35. > :07:45.determination, but she has got a lot. Not chancing anything there.

:07:46. > :07:51.Lovely tuck in the tuck front somersault. It is the pace and the

:07:52. > :08:01.rhythm to this routine that is so impressive. She manages to master

:08:02. > :08:09.the two leaps and the back somersault.

:08:10. > :08:18.All the elements are so fast. She does not pause as if she is on the

:08:19. > :08:23.beam. The all important this night. It is usually perfect. It is today.

:08:24. > :08:31.Well done Simone Biles, you might not be used to being second. That is

:08:32. > :08:38.the question, how long will she be second for? Not long is the answer.

:08:39. > :08:44.A smile of quiet relief. You cannot see them on screen, but her American

:08:45. > :08:48.team-mate I sat in the audience and I can see them shouting down to her

:08:49. > :08:52.and encouraging had the whole time. They will have trained together for

:08:53. > :08:56.quite a long time leading up to the championships and they have been

:08:57. > :09:01.through numerous Olympic trials and they know each other very well. That

:09:02. > :09:07.support can be quite helpful when you are feeling the pressure. Shang

:09:08. > :09:11.Chunsong is in sixth going into this rotation. It is her penultimate

:09:12. > :09:29.piece of apparatus, the vault. Not the strongest of vaults, but

:09:30. > :09:33.very well executed. It is very an usual for a gymnast at this level

:09:34. > :09:40.not to do a more difficult vault than that. She hardly seems to get

:09:41. > :09:46.any power off the top. She does a good round off, nothing technically

:09:47. > :09:53.wrong with it. When she hits her elbows collapse, it is OK. But

:09:54. > :10:00.considering we have just seen her do a three and a half tuck front on the

:10:01. > :10:11.floor, that is surprising. She almost runs faster on the floor than

:10:12. > :10:18.on the vault. Absolutely. This is the piece that can make or break the

:10:19. > :10:23.all-around. It is usually when the falls start to occur in the top

:10:24. > :10:30.group. She will be pleased to have got that routine done. She is such a

:10:31. > :10:37.powerful gymnast you would not even know she is on something that is ten

:10:38. > :10:45.centimetres wide. The free walkover, building up her difficulty all the

:10:46. > :10:48.time. And the big dismount. There is not a lot more to say about it, just

:10:49. > :11:11.unbelievable. She looked relieved. She was in eighth going into this

:11:12. > :11:27.rotation. Ellie Black has got very unusual

:11:28. > :11:38.combinations on tumbling. We are used to seeing one on the half

:11:39. > :11:42.twists and walk out. Two and half twists, immediately in two double

:11:43. > :11:57.tuck. That is so difficult and original.

:11:58. > :12:28.Very often another difficult series. A little stutter on landing.

:12:29. > :12:41.For twisting France in two double pike. Super difficulty. Really good

:12:42. > :12:47.landings, but the artistry is a little bit lacking. Having seen some

:12:48. > :12:52.really artistic floors, you can see why the judges don't quite score

:12:53. > :13:05.that so high. Simone Biles goes into the lead. She has got nails like you

:13:06. > :13:12.have, Beth. It looks like she has got patriotically nails. The one

:13:13. > :13:15.thing I love about her is she shows off her personality and character

:13:16. > :13:20.and she is very active on social media and it has been entertaining

:13:21. > :13:26.leading up to these championships watching her and her team-mates put

:13:27. > :13:33.it up funny videos, taking the Mickey out of each other, so they

:13:34. > :13:39.have had a good time. This is Ellie Black, very powerful. Such an

:13:40. > :13:45.unusual combination and such powerful tumbling. In the final

:13:46. > :13:58.tumble it is the full twist walk out and using the double pike. Very

:13:59. > :13:59.difficult to use. Most people just use the double pike, but to add that

:14:00. > :14:10.walk out as well. Giulia Steingruber, a gymnast we

:14:11. > :14:21.thought would make more of an impact.

:14:22. > :14:29.She does not look as happy as we have seen her earlier this year. No,

:14:30. > :14:41.we did not see her floor routine, but it is usually excellent. Giulia

:14:42. > :14:49.Steingruber is in the vault final, so you will be able to see her

:14:50. > :14:55.again. A nice straight body with one and a half twists. One of the most

:14:56. > :15:05.difficult vaults you will see from the girls.

:15:06. > :15:11.She is renowned for her vaulting, that is what she has made her name

:15:12. > :15:18.doing, and then she became a very good floor worker as well. Has been

:15:19. > :15:29.the top gymnast in Europe this season.

:15:30. > :15:36.It is down on what she qualified with. Simone Biles trying to relax

:15:37. > :15:44.as much as possible before her last piece of apparatus.

:15:45. > :15:52.Then she will take her second gold of this Championships. So, Aliya

:15:53. > :16:03.Mustafina, the current European champion. A former world champion.

:16:04. > :16:10.This is a key piece for a medal. She is a really classically trained

:16:11. > :16:15.gymnast, her toes are always beautifully pointed. A wonderful

:16:16. > :16:22.double spin to start. That counts as one of her three... Johns or leaps,

:16:23. > :16:33.circling the arms and extra time, not allowing herself to wobble --

:16:34. > :16:41.jumps. Changing leg calf, a half turn into the half turning Flip. She

:16:42. > :16:48.linked those two elements in her last, she leaves herself under

:16:49. > :16:54.pressure to do those last free walkovers, she has not joined to the

:16:55. > :16:57.second. A backflip. Is she going to have another try at getting two

:16:58. > :17:04.acrobatic moves together or will she just allow herself to have the 0.5

:17:05. > :17:11.down on difficulty? There is the change, each gymnast has two include

:17:12. > :17:15.an acrobatic series and if they don't, it is not .5 off their

:17:16. > :17:21.starting score, so far they have not. Building up to be dismount, a

:17:22. > :17:25.nice double tuck. That will be a disappointing score

:17:26. > :17:28.for Aliya Mustafina. You were talking about making that decision

:17:29. > :17:32.up their committee would have thought with her experience she

:17:33. > :17:38.would have done that? Yes, we saw the same problem in qualification,

:17:39. > :17:42.you have to make that decision, do I try again and

:17:43. > :17:53.and then fall off? It's a difficult decision, she gave the judge is not

:17:54. > :17:58..5, the rest of the routine was cleanly executed but she is already

:17:59. > :18:02.on the back foot with that. Chris, what do you think happened? Most

:18:03. > :18:06.gymnasts have an acrobatic series like a backflip or a layout

:18:07. > :18:10.somersault they do automatically. She does not like to use that, she

:18:11. > :18:14.tries to link two moves going forward. If you wobble on the first

:18:15. > :18:21.committee can't do the second which is what happened to her. -- if you

:18:22. > :18:29.wobble on the first, you can't do the second. Carlotta Ferlito on the

:18:30. > :18:49.bars. She was 21st in the all round in London. 21 years old. From Italy.

:18:50. > :18:54.Straight into a shoot down, a nice handstand, using the full term, up

:18:55. > :19:04.to the high bar, expect a release and catch, just stepping in.

:19:05. > :19:09.Forward, making sure she gets her front grip as a special requirement.

:19:10. > :19:19.A huge Jager, a half term bringing the back way. Doing the dismount and

:19:20. > :19:24.a full turn. A good dismount? Very good, not the hardest routine we've

:19:25. > :19:29.seen that cleanly executed Iraq. She has made the decision to cut back

:19:30. > :19:36.under Corti but perform well -- cleanly executed it. That was one

:19:37. > :19:42.team who did not qualify for the team final, for the first time in a

:19:43. > :19:50.long time, Vanessa Ferrari is their big star, she qualified as the last

:19:51. > :19:53.person in the top 24. I don't know whether the operation... When they

:19:54. > :20:01.arrived, whether they have had injuries, but it was a nice routine

:20:02. > :20:07.but nothing exceptional. Oh dear. Mustafina drops way off pace with

:20:08. > :20:20.that score. The door opens for her team-mate...

:20:21. > :20:24.Seda Tutkhalyan. Indeed, Seda Tutkhalyan can also be in and out on

:20:25. > :20:30.being, she starts with a difficult round of straight somersault. It is

:20:31. > :20:34.a bit like a warm up, because later she does the round of full twists.

:20:35. > :20:43.Good height on her leaps, and good control on her landings. Here we see

:20:44. > :20:47.the round off, fall twist, and if she lands it, which she has, that is

:20:48. > :20:54.a very difficult element, gaining lots of marks. Smooth, into the free

:20:55. > :21:05.walkovers. Two jumps that have to be linked.

:21:06. > :21:14.The switch lead leap, one forward, swings back and touches the head, I

:21:15. > :21:18.think the judges may feel it did not quite touch her head but she did not

:21:19. > :21:28.have a wobble either. Confident, smooth along the beam. Now will she

:21:29. > :21:33.go for the full-twisting double? On dismount? Or play safe? Safe, round

:21:34. > :21:40.off double Pike, and she sits down on it. Goodness gracious me. This

:21:41. > :21:45.isn't without drama, this beam rotation! We set coming in that this

:21:46. > :21:49.is where it makes and breaks the all-rounders. A fantastic routine

:21:50. > :21:54.until then. Christine was saying, would she go with a bigger dismount?

:21:55. > :22:02.Too much energy, a straight back somersault as a warm up for the full

:22:03. > :22:06.twists we see later. Big skill, that round off fall twist, she really

:22:07. > :22:16.fought to keep that on. A lovely splits. The free walkover, into the

:22:17. > :22:21.jump... Into the next, you have two show two jumps in connection. Here

:22:22. > :22:27.is the double pike, she never committed to the landing at all, I

:22:28. > :22:33.think her feet were right and. In team convocation she did a full

:22:34. > :22:38.twist. -- right under. -- in team qualification she did a full twist.

:22:39. > :22:48.Charlotte for Leto's score. One more piece to go for her, her eyes will

:22:49. > :22:52.be glued to the scoreboard shortly -- Carlotta Ferlito. How costly will

:22:53. > :23:01.her dismount be? How far down will she go? Had she maybe got a 14.5, it

:23:02. > :23:12.will be a 13.5. A hallmark for the full? Yes. -- hallmark for the fall?

:23:13. > :23:18.When she lands, her hips are miles behind, you must time it more

:23:19. > :23:28.carefully than that, let go of the legs, and lift the chest. It is very

:23:29. > :23:33.much game over for Seda Tutkhalyan. She has not got a strong enough

:23:34. > :23:42.floor to pull this right back up. Unfortunately, I think that is her

:23:43. > :23:49.chances over. The current leaders happy. Mustafina is two marks down

:23:50. > :24:01.from Simone Biles. Pressure on the shoulders of Aly Raisman. She was in

:24:02. > :24:06.for. Great Britain'sEllie Downie, was in seventh, looking to score in

:24:07. > :24:15.the high 14s for this piece, to be in with a chance, potentially.

:24:16. > :24:22.She needs a 14.365 to be up with the medallists at the moment. Front

:24:23. > :24:30.grip, toe on half, straight into the Shaposh, into the big catch up.

:24:31. > :24:36.Cleanly caught, full turn into another big catch. Straight into the

:24:37. > :24:44.low bar. Just bringing it in too close, she will carry the routine

:24:45. > :24:50.on. There is the Shaposh. Then, the wind-up to the final element, which

:24:51. > :24:55.is the dismount, double straight. Just losing her knees, she came off

:24:56. > :25:02.slightly till early. What a shame, that's difficult section she did so

:25:03. > :25:09.well. She just brought the Pak salto in too close to the bar. Not much

:25:10. > :25:18.you can do after that. You can see Seda Tutkhalyan... 13.8.

:25:19. > :25:25.Rebeca Andrade is the next gymnast onto the beam. She was in fifth but

:25:26. > :25:27.did qualify in third, what a story it would be for Brazil here if she

:25:28. > :26:00.could medal. Goodness me! That was an edgy start

:26:01. > :26:05.to the routine. The two jumps, she is fighting so well. The layout

:26:06. > :26:10.somersault had a big wobble, and a big wobble between the two leaps.

:26:11. > :26:16.Really, a lot of the gymnasts have got a little bit nervous, really, I

:26:17. > :26:23.suppose. They have seen others falter, and that she did not take

:26:24. > :26:34.off at all with that leap, she will have another go. Changing leg, with

:26:35. > :26:45.the ring. A free walkover, she has her rhythm back now. Here we go,

:26:46. > :26:50.with the dismount... Double pike, and that's how you land. That was

:26:51. > :26:55.definitely what you describe as a fight is routine but she fought and

:26:56. > :27:00.did not come off the apparatus. She had the composure to go again for

:27:01. > :27:08.that jump. Yes, she knew that it mattered. One of the big elements

:27:09. > :27:17.that will build up a score. Ellie Downie waiting for her score, it's

:27:18. > :27:21.in, 13.7 83. And your husband there, Chris, saying next apparatus,

:27:22. > :27:26.mentality, think about what's coming up, don't think about that. That's a

:27:27. > :27:30.pretty good school with two errors in the routine, it proves she needs

:27:31. > :27:36.the quality to be at the top of this board. But you had to have the

:27:37. > :27:40.consistency as well. There was the change, she did not feel the

:27:41. > :27:45.take-off was right, the second time, she performed it beautifully. Two

:27:46. > :27:49.somersaults linked together, she picked up the rhythm right towards

:27:50. > :27:54.the end of the routine. The first bit was a little shaky. You can see

:27:55. > :28:00.her spotting the end, and then the double pike dismount. She knew that

:28:01. > :28:04.she had to fight, maybe her coach has told her others have come off,

:28:05. > :28:11.she knew that if she fought for every little bit, it can make the

:28:12. > :28:15.difference at the end. The Brazilian team have done so well for

:28:16. > :28:20.qualification. An enormous amount of preparation and focus goes in when

:28:21. > :28:26.it is a home games, but they've had access into every final we've seen

:28:27. > :28:29.so far? Yes, we've not seen that on the world stage, they were not in

:28:30. > :28:32.the team final in the World Championships, they really had to

:28:33. > :28:42.raise their level to make it this time around. Only one piece of

:28:43. > :28:47.apparatus left to work on, Aly Raisman will have to do that with

:28:48. > :28:51.the whole arena watching. Aly Raisman was in fourth position. It's

:28:52. > :29:04.been a tentative beam rotation, 13.6. The Brazilian crowd here are

:29:05. > :29:17.not happy with that. The pressure is on Aly Raisman now. Silver Medal

:29:18. > :29:26.position, Mustafina. But this is Aly Raisman. A very powerful gymnast.

:29:27. > :29:33.Using the front somersault start, and the flicks straight back, very

:29:34. > :29:42.cleanly done. Change lead into a back somersault, not a flicker --

:29:43. > :29:53.change leg. Here are the two compulsory jumps you need to show.

:29:54. > :30:08.And the low beam element. Free card well. -- cartwheel, a change leg

:30:09. > :30:12.car. -- half. A huge front somersault, really

:30:13. > :30:20.showing every element to the maximum. There is the spin, straight

:30:21. > :30:24.into a back spin, she will get a connection for that, and the final

:30:25. > :30:31.dismount, wait and see this... It is something special... Last little

:30:32. > :30:49.test. The big round off, double Arabian. And a small hop forward.

:30:50. > :31:01.That was the most secure routine we have seen. Yes, she did not strut

:31:02. > :31:07.her stuff like in the team final, but she set herself apart from the

:31:08. > :31:10.rest. And she had a long wait to do that routine. You can see the

:31:11. > :31:15.wonderful technique every time she lands. The feed I separated one in

:31:16. > :31:21.front of the other, so she can get her feet right down. The dismount is

:31:22. > :31:27.very impressive, but quite a big hop today. She will be very pleased she

:31:28. > :31:34.did all those repetitions in the training gym. She needed all of

:31:35. > :31:40.those under her belt today. It looks like it could be the USA won an two

:31:41. > :31:52.at this stage. It is Simone Biles ahead of Aliya Mustafina. We will

:31:53. > :31:57.wait for that score to come in before the gymnasts can move on to

:31:58. > :32:04.that final piece. Simone Biles will be on fluoride to wrap the

:32:05. > :32:09.competition up. Aly Raisman, of the four Olympic medals she has one of

:32:10. > :32:20.them is a bronze on beam from London. Just having a debrief on how

:32:21. > :32:25.shaky it was. You were talking about their training camp and how relaxed

:32:26. > :32:31.they are. They have got around, it is like a training camp on a farm.

:32:32. > :32:38.Yes, it is in Texas and they all go there as a team and pretty much eat,

:32:39. > :32:43.sleep and drink gymnastics. Their preparation is very hard and focus,

:32:44. > :32:46.but it is really nice. In these games we have seen a lot of

:32:47. > :32:52.personality within the American gymnasts. Simone Biles is smiling

:32:53. > :33:00.and waving at people. It has been really nice to see that. There will

:33:01. > :33:06.be a lot of pressure on Aliya Mustafina's floor routine. That is

:33:07. > :33:14.not enough to go ahead of Aliya Mustafina at this stage. So Aliya

:33:15. > :33:18.Mustafina clings on. Simone Biles leads the all-around competition

:33:19. > :33:28.with one piece of apparatus to go. Aliya Mustafina is in silver medal

:33:29. > :33:40.position. Giulia Steingruber is in fourth. Ellie Downie is an night.

:33:41. > :33:43.Considering her hesitant bar routine is a pretty strong position. There

:33:44. > :34:09.is confirmation of all that. It is very close, it will all come

:34:10. > :34:16.down to a few tumbles. We are talking about precision. Everything

:34:17. > :34:21.is always in line with the beam. Even when she knows she is slightly

:34:22. > :34:27.off she has got that awareness to know to correct it straightaway.

:34:28. > :34:36.This is the front somersault into the jump. Everything is performed to

:34:37. > :34:37.its maximum. The height, the amplitude, right down to the toe

:34:38. > :35:03.point. And the big smile. Current silver medal position, Aliya

:35:04. > :35:08.Mustafina. That beam routine was vital for her because Aly Raisman

:35:09. > :35:15.can pip out on the floor. Yes, she is a lot more powerful. Aliya

:35:16. > :35:19.Mustafina scored 15.9 in the team final, so had she had that, she

:35:20. > :35:28.would have been up close to Simone Biles. I am very impressed that she

:35:29. > :35:32.is up so high. This is Ellie Downie. All this difficult work at the

:35:33. > :35:41.beginning was really well performed, the big Tkachev, she did the full

:35:42. > :35:50.pirouette which is often something she needed to work on. In that room

:35:51. > :35:55.she was a bit too close to the low bar, but this is the dismount. It is

:35:56. > :36:01.very unusual for how to falter on the dismount. It is. Her feet were

:36:02. > :36:12.lower than what they would normally be. Her hips were slightly behind

:36:13. > :36:23.her feet and there was not a lot she could do, Giulia Steingruber is

:36:24. > :36:29.moving on to the bars, her final apparatus, not her strongest bees.

:36:30. > :36:42.She is currently in fourth position, so we will see if she can hold onto

:36:43. > :36:49.that. -- not her strongest piece. We can see the gymnasts warming up from

:36:50. > :36:54.here. That last floor routine will bring the roof off. The crowd in

:36:55. > :37:00.here has been really fantastic, they have been really supportive of the

:37:01. > :37:06.gymnasts, especially the Brazilians. The Brazilian floor routine has got

:37:07. > :37:15.quite a lot of attention here. Rebecca Andrade will be performing

:37:16. > :37:22.to Beyonce. Cool! That top group finish on the floor. This second

:37:23. > :37:27.group go over to vault, the third group is on bars and the fourth

:37:28. > :37:32.group finish on the tentative beam. Ellie Downie is in that group as

:37:33. > :37:42.well. She had a little fall in the team final. But it will be a crowd

:37:43. > :37:46.pleasing finish, as Beth said. Simone Biles, three times world

:37:47. > :37:49.champion, three times all-round champion, and it looks like she is

:37:50. > :37:57.going to be Olympic all-round champion. We will let you call it

:37:58. > :38:07.the tentative beam today. It certainly has been. These gymnasts

:38:08. > :38:10.are still warming up on vault. They have to adjust the springboard and

:38:11. > :38:20.make sure everything is right and mark out the run-ups. They are

:38:21. > :38:24.allowed two vaults, so they take a bit longer moving the springboard.

:38:25. > :38:32.The springboard these days are very heavy. And there are two different

:38:33. > :38:40.types, so you might see the coaches swapping them in and out. On floor,

:38:41. > :38:47.the first of the top six gymnasts in this group. The big double twisting

:38:48. > :38:55.double back to start. Such a slight gymnast, but very powerful.

:38:56. > :38:59.Concentration to come straight back down the diagonal. The one and half

:39:00. > :39:09.walk out into the triple twist punch. A difficult combination to

:39:10. > :39:18.put together. There is the full spin that they have to show in their

:39:19. > :39:25.routine. The next big tumble, the two and a half twist straight front,

:39:26. > :39:30.no problems whatsoever with that. She now has a bit of time to show

:39:31. > :39:46.off the routine and get the all-important jumps and leaps in.

:39:47. > :39:53.The judges will be looking to see whether everything is fully turned

:39:54. > :40:01.in that element. And building up to the final tumble. The double pipe. A

:40:02. > :40:15.great way to finish her Olympic Games in this all-around final.

:40:16. > :40:19.Packed with energy and difficulty. There was an enquiry put in by Aly

:40:20. > :40:28.Raisman on beam, but it has been rejected. Ellie Black on the vault.

:40:29. > :40:32.She was in sixth place. Finishing with a high-scoring vault. She has

:40:33. > :40:48.got an unusual vault. That was really nicely performed.

:40:49. > :40:59.She has had a great competition. Made up somewhat for the

:41:00. > :41:03.disappointment of no team final. Giulia Steingruber is in fourth at

:41:04. > :41:09.the moment. She is looking at the scoreboard, knowing what she has to

:41:10. > :41:13.do in her last piece. This is Shang Chunsong on bars. She is in seventh

:41:14. > :41:21.at the moment, but has a high-scoring routine on the bars.

:41:22. > :41:27.She posted a difficulty of 6.7 in qualification, so we know that she

:41:28. > :41:32.can. The huge Tkachev release straight down into the low bar.

:41:33. > :41:43.Straight into the high bar, into the Gienger. Then the turning

:41:44. > :41:51.combination. Another full-time, into the Jager. Very clearly caught,

:41:52. > :42:02.straight arms. And she builds up into the dismount, and she nails the

:42:03. > :42:09.landing. In with a chance. If it was not for that really we vault, she

:42:10. > :42:28.certainly would be up there. That week vault.

:42:29. > :42:38.That is the superhigh Tkachev over the bar down to the low bar. She is

:42:39. > :42:44.a very light gymnast, very slight. That is an interesting combination,

:42:45. > :42:51.cleverly constructed by routines from the Chinese. They only go down

:42:52. > :42:53.to the low bar once. Often because they are tiny gymnasts, they

:42:54. > :43:03.struggle with the transitions, so they have got rid of many of those.

:43:04. > :43:07.What does the next few moments hold for Aliya Mustafina. The current

:43:08. > :43:20.Olympic bronze medallist on the floor. Sorry, Olympic all-round

:43:21. > :43:32.bronze medallist. Everybody here we'll is that she performs well.

:43:33. > :43:41.The opening spin was very nicely held. A superhigh full twisting

:43:42. > :43:50.double back. That was important, the triple leg

:43:51. > :44:27.up spin. Beautiful balletic line, supple

:44:28. > :44:33.arms. One and a half into full turning front. She is nailing it

:44:34. > :44:55.all. She just needs one good last

:44:56. > :45:02.landing. The double Tucker. She has done her absolute best there. Really

:45:03. > :45:07.classical, a great gymnast of the Russian tradition. Will it be

:45:08. > :45:12.enough? I think it will be enough for a medal, I do not think it will

:45:13. > :45:14.be enough for the silver position. I think the same, I think it will be

:45:15. > :45:34.bronze. Shang Chunsong goes into the lead

:45:35. > :45:40.for the moment. I love muster Fina's shoulder line. She never looks tense

:45:41. > :45:54.in the shoulders. She has a dancer's posture. Some of the big tumbles, a

:45:55. > :45:59.balletic routine. The big spins. Using the one and a half punch into

:46:00. > :46:05.the full twist. It might not look the big powerful tumbles you see

:46:06. > :46:12.from Simone Biles, but she builds difficulty in different ways. The

:46:13. > :46:19.final test, here, the double top. Cleanly executed. Just a small step

:46:20. > :46:31.back. And now she has to sit and wait. Heard difficult to score in

:46:32. > :46:39.qualification was 5.7. That is against Simone Biles' 6.8. One mark

:46:40. > :46:45.more in difficulty Simone Biles has. In London she was the most decorated

:46:46. > :46:52.gymnast and what an accolade, to come back for years later and to

:46:53. > :46:58.medal again. In women's gymnastics, it is harder to do. Most gymnasts

:46:59. > :47:04.you will see doing one Olympic Games on the female side. For heard to win

:47:05. > :47:09.medals in London. She had a tough time coming through the last four

:47:10. > :47:15.years. She has had injuries here. Maybe has not performed how she

:47:16. > :47:19.wanted, but to peak ready for the Olympic Games, great credit to her.

:47:20. > :47:24.Great competition in the Russian team, which have a knock-on effect

:47:25. > :47:28.that got them the silver. So much competition and so much quality in

:47:29. > :47:33.there. You have the youngsters coming through. You can see they are

:47:34. > :47:37.doing more Mac and it makes you become stronger and as a result, the

:47:38. > :47:42.team becomes stronger because you constantly fight for a place and

:47:43. > :47:47.that happens with the American team, with so many strong gymnasts in that

:47:48. > :47:53.team. They have to do so many trials to get in the team. The competition

:47:54. > :48:05.is hard. Will it be her swansong? I do not think so. Muster Fina. It is

:48:06. > :48:10.going to be close. She is ahead to -- Aliya Mustafina. All to do now,

:48:11. > :48:24.after the fall of the beam. The chest down, having to recover

:48:25. > :48:45.from that. She needs to pick up herself after

:48:46. > :48:53.the fall on the beam and perform for the very last time.

:48:54. > :49:00.Into the double pike. That is the fall again. That is her bid for a

:49:01. > :49:02.medal totally gone that she has to keep performing to finish off the

:49:03. > :49:16.routine. The change leg.

:49:17. > :49:30.Round off, one and a half. A big step backwards.

:49:31. > :49:39.Into the double spin on the floor. Almost fell out of that.

:49:40. > :49:42.Just had to recover out of it. Just the final tumble. Really needs to

:49:43. > :49:59.dig deep. Double tuck. Hands down, again. What a

:50:00. > :50:04.distant pointing weight to finish. It was not happening for home. I am

:50:05. > :50:09.surprised. She struck me as a fighter but after the disappointing

:50:10. > :50:14.dismount on the beam, she was just not up for it, really. All of those

:50:15. > :50:23.mistakes were things she has done many times correctly.

:50:24. > :50:26.This is when the factor of just two gymnasts per country becomes a

:50:27. > :50:31.frustration because you know there are other Russian gymnast who could

:50:32. > :50:39.make an impact, especially on the top five. This is a real chance for

:50:40. > :50:52.Giulia Steingruber. Doing very nicely. The full pirouette envelope

:50:53. > :50:58.bar. -- on the low bar. A nice Gienger somersault.

:50:59. > :51:05.Shuffling along the bar a little bit.

:51:06. > :51:10.Up into a big dismount. Well, that was a good performance.

:51:11. > :51:16.It is not the highest level difficulty but she is a gritty

:51:17. > :51:27.performer. She would need 14.9. It is a big ask. I think so. You can

:51:28. > :51:38.see the full term. -- turn. Had to use the extra upstart handstand.

:51:39. > :51:47.There is the Shap. So many gymnasts are using this combination to build

:51:48. > :51:57.up the difficulty. A spatially aware gymnast. She knows exactly where the

:51:58. > :52:02.landing is. We think she probably fell on the beam at the beginning.

:52:03. > :52:09.She will be ruling that, now she is so close.

:52:10. > :52:23.10.966 for Seda Tutkhalyan. What a disappointment. Rebeca

:52:24. > :52:24.Andrade combining super acrobatic skill with the rhythmic dance. Watch

:52:25. > :52:38.out for the move. A very powerful gymnasts. The first

:52:39. > :52:43.tumble. Fall in. Back out. Nails the landing. The

:52:44. > :52:52.crowd are really going to enjoy this routine.

:52:53. > :53:00.She loves to perform. She is really showing off this routine.

:53:01. > :53:08.The two jumps you need to do. And the spin. Just fell out of that at

:53:09. > :53:15.the end. Really artistic routine. And she is

:53:16. > :53:43.enjoying the moment. Combining the artistry with the big

:53:44. > :53:45.tumbles. That was the double tuck. Has to make sure she has saved

:53:46. > :54:04.enough for the last tumble. A big double pike. Big landing. Well

:54:05. > :54:10.done. What a superb way to wrap up the all-around competition in front

:54:11. > :54:16.of her home crowd. The majority of this place dancing along. She has

:54:17. > :54:21.had her ups and downs through the pieces but she never gave up. She

:54:22. > :54:26.fought through. She might well have put herself in the position to be

:54:27. > :54:38.fighting for a medal. She was in fifth. She needs 14.9.

:54:39. > :54:49.I'm sorry, she needs 15.4. She has a very nice mixture of good

:54:50. > :54:55.tumbling and sparkly dance. She is a gymnast who can combine the whole

:54:56. > :55:00.lot. My impression is she is slightly short on training, really.

:55:01. > :55:06.Only just back from injury. I think she will be one of the really

:55:07. > :55:11.successful gymnasts during the next four-year cycle. And she is still

:55:12. > :55:18.only 17 years old. She has plenty of time. I think she will be one of big

:55:19. > :55:37.names. She has a lovely style about her. She can sell a floor routine.

:55:38. > :55:46.Steingruber, 13.8. Seventh, at the moment. Down on what she would have

:55:47. > :55:51.hoped for coming into the competition.

:55:52. > :55:57.It would be great if Rebeca Andrade could finish in the top ten.

:55:58. > :56:15.The score is in. 13.7 66. The Brazilian crowd, I don't have to

:56:16. > :56:34.tell you. They are not happy. Aly Raisman. With it all to do. She

:56:35. > :56:46.only needs 14 to go ahead of Aliya Mustafina, who leads the competition

:56:47. > :56:49.with Shang Chunsong in third, however, the two most powerful

:56:50. > :56:56.gymnasts on the floor have yet to go. Waiting for the scoreboard to

:56:57. > :57:03.clear will stop and Aly Raisman, current Olympic champion on the

:57:04. > :57:10.floor. She can do her thing. Aly Raisman has to stay on her feet. If

:57:11. > :57:18.she does, she will go into the lead. She has an exceptional tumbling

:57:19. > :57:24.series here. The one and a half, the walk-out, double Arabian and punch

:57:25. > :57:37.into straight front somersault. Beautiful work.

:57:38. > :57:47.Lovely control. Good height on the leap. Another big tumble on its way.

:57:48. > :58:09.Double pike, Arabian, into the jump. Gymnasts are not allowed to stand

:58:10. > :58:18.for a long time in a corner. And again, double straight somersault.

:58:19. > :58:25.The only thing with Aly Raisman, that she is a little bit short of

:58:26. > :58:31.the splits sometimes. But she sells the routine. Lovely big splits.

:58:32. > :58:48.Just the final tumble. Superhigh, super landed. That is how you do a

:58:49. > :58:56.floor routine under extreme pressure will -- pressure. What an

:58:57. > :59:02.unbelievable series of acrobatics. And she really, it means so much to

:59:03. > :59:09.her. Great Britain's Ellie Downie finishes her competition on the

:59:10. > :59:14.beam. She scored 14.5 in the team final.

:59:15. > :59:24.A simple start to get her up onto the beam.

:59:25. > :59:42.Here is a very big skill. The standing Arabian.

:59:43. > :59:56.Very good splits. Keeping the rhythm of the routine.

:59:57. > :00:07.The double spin, very well executed. And the flick layout. Fighting this

:00:08. > :00:10.whole routine, not wanting to give away anything. The jump, slight

:00:11. > :00:34.pause before the free cartwheel. Just building up. Which dismount

:00:35. > :00:38.will she use? Double Arabian, oh... Just slightly over of --

:00:39. > :00:44.overregulated it. Brand-new dismount, but she went for broke.

:00:45. > :00:51.That's a shame because it was a great beam routine. We are back on

:00:52. > :00:55.floor with Aly Raisman to see a few more of her tumbles and goodness me.

:00:56. > :01:00.You can see how much it meant to her. She took a couple of years away

:01:01. > :01:03.after London 2012 and then really fought back to get into that team

:01:04. > :01:10.and as soon as she landed that tumble, just the emotion flooded

:01:11. > :01:13.out. 15.433 is enough to push Mustafina down into that third

:01:14. > :01:22.position, with one gymnast left to go. So Simone Biles will wrap up

:01:23. > :01:28.this women's all-around final with fireworks.

:01:29. > :01:39.This am for gold in the women's all-around final. The smile says it

:01:40. > :01:50.all. She loves to perform. Double straight somersault with the twist.

:01:51. > :01:59.Not daunted, enjoying every minute of it. Double straight with half

:02:00. > :02:31.turn, immediate jump. Watch this for a third tumble,

:02:32. > :02:46.double twisting, double straight, only took half a run.

:02:47. > :02:52.One last tumble, to become Olympic champion. Here it is. Absolutely no

:02:53. > :03:06.doubting. And what a champion! Finishes with a

:03:07. > :03:09.flourish and there is gold number two for Simone Biles. Absolutely

:03:10. > :03:16.superb performance. CHEERING

:03:17. > :03:22.Wow, the adoration and the disbelief that is going around this arena

:03:23. > :03:30.right now, to witness this. To be here, to watch that! It was just

:03:31. > :03:35.something else. Well, to watch both the American gymnasts on floor, they

:03:36. > :03:47.were so positive, so well rehearsed. And the experience must have been to

:03:48. > :03:53.console said Tutkhalyan, she tried but it wasn't to be. So it's one and

:03:54. > :04:01.two to the USA and Mustafina will take the bronze. Which I think she

:04:02. > :04:07.will be highly delighted to come away with.

:04:08. > :04:19.Just 4'8", but full of power and it's almost confusing, isn't it, how

:04:20. > :04:22.she manages to do that. You were talking about that third tumble,

:04:23. > :04:23.Chris, and the
