:00:49. > :00:54.Good evening, a potentially very exciting evening in the Rio because

:00:55. > :01:00.over the next 15 minutes, we have a final with another chance of

:01:01. > :01:05.precious metal in the canoe slalom after Joe Clarke took the gold last

:01:06. > :01:11.night, tonight it is Florence and Hounslow who took silver in London

:01:12. > :01:16.four years ago, who made it through to the C2 event, they are underway

:01:17. > :01:20.in 15 minutes time. To whet your appetite for some of the other

:01:21. > :01:29.events in Rio, let me throw some names at you, the likes of Marylou

:01:30. > :01:33.Retton and so many others who have become the individual all-round

:01:34. > :01:36.champion and the Olympic Games in gymnastics and the odds-on favourite

:01:37. > :02:03.to join them tonight, a certain Simone Biles.

:02:04. > :02:33.she is a phenomenal athlete, a phenomenal gymnast and she's

:02:34. > :02:39.expecting to take a hat full of gold back to Texas with her. Beth Tweddle

:02:40. > :02:43.has been very impressed and you have been over the last couple of years.

:02:44. > :02:49.She was too young to take part in the under the Olympics but she is

:02:50. > :02:53.taking this one by storm. Yes, since the World Championships in 2013,

:02:54. > :02:57.incredible, she is a league above everyone else, the skills she is

:02:58. > :03:04.performing, the hardest, and she makes it look easy. It is like she

:03:05. > :03:11.has campsites in high heels. In terms of the technical elements, how

:03:12. > :03:16.is she moving the element on -- trumpets in her heels. The people

:03:17. > :03:25.behind having to look to her and wonder how they can capture. The

:03:26. > :03:28.vault she is performing, two and a half and she may perform a perfect

:03:29. > :03:34.ten with that in these championships. You can see the small

:03:35. > :03:38.hop she had in qualification but I wouldn't be surprised if she landed

:03:39. > :03:45.perfectly through these Games. Almost full-blown acrobatics, it is

:03:46. > :03:49.like gymnastics on feet, it is extraordinary, what she's doing --

:03:50. > :03:55.on heat. In terms of the Grace notes, we know about her power, but

:03:56. > :03:58.possibly not those of the balletic quality we've seen from individual

:03:59. > :04:03.gymnasts in the past but it doesn't seem to matter, it is like she

:04:04. > :04:08.blinds us to them, not division sees, but not as strong as her

:04:09. > :04:11.acrobatic skills. Yes, she's very powerful and she has a different

:04:12. > :04:19.style of gymnastics. Watching her on the floor, it isn't necessarily

:04:20. > :04:25.elegant as you saw back in the day but she enjoys it, she is using it

:04:26. > :04:28.to impress the crowd and they see the passion she has and they love it

:04:29. > :04:34.and they join in with her. The floor is where she gets it together. She

:04:35. > :04:38.is two and a half times the height, she's into the air, and the

:04:39. > :04:45.personality and enjoyment, the exuberance of like Marylou Retton.

:04:46. > :04:51.She is extraordinary. Yes, the tumble she does hurt is what most

:04:52. > :04:56.gymnasts hope to do in their third run. We've seen her in the Olympic

:04:57. > :05:02.trials, she winks to the camera, she knows where the cameras are, how to

:05:03. > :05:06.put her personality together and the person who choreographed the routine

:05:07. > :05:10.has really worked to her strength. Everyone has they hard in their

:05:11. > :05:20.mouth when they watch the bee work but she doesn't seem to have any

:05:21. > :05:26.doubt. -- the beam. She has a lot of technical difficulty. We have seen

:05:27. > :05:29.her falling off this year, so she'll be under a lot of pressure tonight.

:05:30. > :05:33.With that pressure comes nervousness and when you only have ten

:05:34. > :05:39.centimetres of balance beam, it's difficult. And this is not, the

:05:40. > :05:44.flick into the double somersault, we've seen training videos where she

:05:45. > :05:47.does two somersaults with two twists, so she's always training

:05:48. > :05:52.above the level she competes, which is why she makes it look easy. Can

:05:53. > :05:57.anyone get close to her? If she has a fall, it could be close. At the

:05:58. > :06:03.World Championships last year, she faltered on the beam but she's

:06:04. > :06:07.looked superb at these Games, so I'd be surprised if anyone gets anywhere

:06:08. > :06:12.near her. The significance of Ellie Downie being in the final four Great

:06:13. > :06:22.Britain? It is huge, we have had tenth place as our best ever, in

:06:23. > :06:26.Beijing, so so it would be impressive if she goes in the top

:06:27. > :06:31.ten. In qualification she had a nasty fall, but she came back and

:06:32. > :06:38.hopefully she's getting better in each competition, so we'll see what

:06:39. > :06:45.happens. I envy you horribly being there tonight but I'll be watching

:06:46. > :06:50.it. It is an BBC Four at 8pm. Thanks to Beth Tweddle, our medallist from

:06:51. > :06:54.London on the bars. We are looking forward to the appearance of

:06:55. > :07:00.Florence and Hounslow in this canoe doubles final. These guys were the

:07:01. > :07:02.silver medallists four years ago and with their experience, both 34 years

:07:03. > :07:21.of age, can they upgrade that? I think one of our strengths is that

:07:22. > :07:29.we get on. He is very calm and collected and really logical, to a

:07:30. > :07:36.certain degree. But I am a bit more emotional and louder it can be very

:07:37. > :07:39.frustrating and harder to get on. You see the other crews having a

:07:40. > :07:47.fallout and struggling with that. The fact that we get on has been the

:07:48. > :07:58.key to our success. Getting through the finishing line, Stott and

:07:59. > :08:02.Baillie, the fastest time we've seen so far. Our team-mates were in the

:08:03. > :08:12.gold medal position and we were the last to go off. They are chasing the

:08:13. > :08:15.time of their friends and partners, can they win it? My goodness,

:08:16. > :08:22.they've got ace or the medal. We would have rather won but we are

:08:23. > :08:27.proud to put in a good run. It is these small margins, it is easy to

:08:28. > :08:33.regret them when you are off a gold but you at the small margin of being

:08:34. > :08:36.away from fourth place. No matter what field you are in, there's

:08:37. > :08:43.always something you want to achieve and for us, it's a gold medal at the

:08:44. > :08:46.Olympic Games. We've been Olympic silver medallists, the World

:08:47. > :08:51.Championships, so for us it would feel like it is Mission

:08:52. > :08:56.accomplished. Richard and David will be paddling third to last, a rather

:08:57. > :09:00.auspicious starting number in the past because Joe Clarke was going

:09:01. > :09:03.third to last last night and he paddled over the line into gold

:09:04. > :09:08.medal position. Mathew Pillans and is keeping his fingers crossed. You

:09:09. > :09:13.had a lot to celebrate last night. Please tell us about the boost it

:09:14. > :09:17.has given the canoe slalom team. For any Team GB to have one of your

:09:18. > :09:20.early chances convert it into a medal is a great fillip for the team

:09:21. > :09:27.and to have another chance convert it into eight gold medal sense a lot

:09:28. > :09:32.of appreciation and energy and confidence through the team -- a

:09:33. > :09:35.gold medal. That is the case with Team GB, the athletes were clear to

:09:36. > :09:40.congratulate Joe and I know that Fiona and Hounslow and Florence will

:09:41. > :09:44.take a lot from that into the finals which we are about to see. This is a

:09:45. > :09:49.bit of a lottery, the margins are tiny, getting it right and not

:09:50. > :09:56.getting a medal. The stars aligned for them four years ago as it did

:09:57. > :10:01.for the other pairing, Tim and starts, but in terms of the singles

:10:02. > :10:07.performances, what would he like to put right and was there a postmortem

:10:08. > :10:11.-- Stott. I have asked him back and he wants to leave it behind. They

:10:12. > :10:17.always shrugged their shoulders and say, that is canoe slalom. You can

:10:18. > :10:20.make a tiny mistake and in fact the variability of the course means that

:10:21. > :10:24.the wave you are hit by is not there for the next competitor, you can

:10:25. > :10:34.click the gate with your helmet by a smaller competitor and then your

:10:35. > :10:37.confidence can go and it is difficult to keep going. He dropped

:10:38. > :10:44.quickly out of contention and finished tenth in the final of the

:10:45. > :10:49.C1 and he was very disappointed but he's good at putting it behind him

:10:50. > :10:53.and now we are going into the C2, a great position going into the final.

:10:54. > :10:59.A couple of minutes into the -- before the final and we have another

:11:00. > :11:03.at 7pm, Fiona Pennie was very disappointed not to be competing in

:11:04. > :11:09.London. She was, it is a funny subplot to the 2012 story, we look

:11:10. > :11:14.back on it as the most amazing two weeks of sport, these Team GB

:11:15. > :11:19.heroes, open top buses, the nation coming alive in its love for Olympic

:11:20. > :11:22.sport, but for some athletes they had to sit it out, they were ill,

:11:23. > :11:28.they were injured, they weren't selected or they didn't perform

:11:29. > :11:36.well. Fiona Pennie watched it going on and had to store up those

:11:37. > :11:40.feelings and that she wanted to do at -- do it and get to Rio and here

:11:41. > :11:48.she is, a great position from the semifinal going into the K1 final.

:11:49. > :11:54.She couldn't believe her friend Joe Clarke was on the podium. There is

:11:55. > :11:58.another woman in the K1 final, Jessica Fox of Australia. I guess

:11:59. > :12:04.there is a little bit of Great Britain that goes with her in this

:12:05. > :12:08.one? We try and claim it, whenever I ask how the question she rebuffs it

:12:09. > :12:13.firmly, she's a proud Australian. Her father was a British paddler in

:12:14. > :12:17.the 60s, she was born and brought up in Australia and she wears the green

:12:18. > :12:21.and gold proudly. We can try and claim her but it won't work Monk we

:12:22. > :12:28.still have great chances with Fiona Pennie. -- it won't work! We about

:12:29. > :12:34.to get underway in the main's C2, the double. Helen Reeves knows what

:12:35. > :12:42.it takes to win a medal on the whitewater rapids. COMMENTATOR: The

:12:43. > :12:46.start is just three minutes away for the C2 final, we have had a

:12:47. > :12:55.reduction from 11 boats down to ten. The Brazilian pairing, Oliveira and

:12:56. > :12:58.Correa going out but that means that Florence and Hounslow have got

:12:59. > :13:03.through. Florence didn't have much success in the C1, bitterly

:13:04. > :13:08.disappointed, finishing tenth place but he said he would get it together

:13:09. > :13:12.for the C2. Richard Hounslow would be delighted to hear that. Perfect

:13:13. > :13:17.start position in the finals. They certainly do, we have talked in

:13:18. > :13:20.these Games about how you don't want to be the last person off but you

:13:21. > :13:27.couldn't ask for a better position, third from last. They finished third

:13:28. > :13:31.in the semifinals, the same position that Joe Clarke started in in his

:13:32. > :13:38.final campaign yesterday. Here is the course. Helen, we've seen some

:13:39. > :13:43.penalties on gate three but problems started after the second upstream,

:13:44. > :13:48.gate seven. Extremely tight, then going downstream and you got to use

:13:49. > :13:55.the water, and tight after gate 13, some more downstreams and then

:13:56. > :14:02.tricky at gate 17. A lot of time is lost on 18 and 19. 19 and 20, across

:14:03. > :14:11.the wave, requiring the spin. 22 looks straightforward, but a lot of

:14:12. > :14:15.time won and lost, certainly in yesterday's K1 and it looked to be

:14:16. > :14:21.the same in the semifinals of the women's K1 and the C2 so you don't

:14:22. > :14:24.relax until you have got past the finish line and if you have gained

:14:25. > :14:30.half a second head can make all the difference. In the K1 yesterday the

:14:31. > :14:37.top four boats were within half a second, which is one bad stroke!

:14:38. > :14:42.Yes, very tight racing. So, four finals in the canoe slalom

:14:43. > :14:48.discipline and four British boats. Only ten left, the best of the semis

:14:49. > :14:52.going next. Anton and Benzien will try to make sure that the best

:14:53. > :14:56.semifinalist is the best finalist, but it hasn't happened yet. Mcewan

:14:57. > :15:03.and Eichfeld will be the first away, just scraping through the

:15:04. > :15:06.semifinals, scrappy from them. I lot of boats in all disciplines looking

:15:07. > :15:12.OK on the top half and then falling apart when they get past 13 -- a

:15:13. > :15:16.lot. Yes, so many penalty points picked up as well. They must try and

:15:17. > :15:19.convert the good top section into the sections further down the

:15:20. > :15:30.course, getting the upstream gates right, getting the entry and exit.

:15:31. > :15:41.In June and Casey Eichfeld. What a chance for them, the chance Olympic

:15:42. > :15:46.medals. Eichfeld The only man to do the see one and the two for the

:15:47. > :15:49.Americans. His father did it way back in 1970 to come the first time

:15:50. > :15:53.a canoe slalom was the Olympic Games in Munich. And Alice Burke, still

:15:54. > :15:58.one of the best World Cup courses. Solid start. Just wanting to get

:15:59. > :16:03.into the rhythm in the first few gates. In the semifinals they got in

:16:04. > :16:08.early two seconds penalty as gate three. The goal shooter that paid

:16:09. > :16:12.very well. Tight at seven, now about getting the exit and across the

:16:13. > :16:20.eight. The back route seems to have it easier. Careless penalty and 810

:16:21. > :16:24.could be costly. Eight out of ten crews in the semifinal picked up

:16:25. > :16:28.penalties. 15 penalties applied in all. The second for the Americans

:16:29. > :16:31.and I'm afraid they now know they are under pressure, when you're

:16:32. > :16:36.under pressure you must take risks, they aren't interested in the, six

:16:37. > :16:41.or seven, they want first in a second or third. It must be

:16:42. > :16:46.unbelievable to achieve that. The pressure of the wave between 15 and

:16:47. > :16:58.16. 17 is a tricky upstream. Two second penalty, getting the polls on

:16:59. > :17:06.the bow of the boat. The court's son was racing for the USA yesterday.

:17:07. > :17:12.Did not go his way. Yesterday. These two, if they finished well down the

:17:13. > :17:15.list they will hold -- put it down the poor Olympics. Trying to keep a

:17:16. > :17:20.quick line into the last spin, looking for the spin on the boat on

:17:21. > :17:23.the of 22, he looked tired, it is a difficult programme, just over one

:17:24. > :17:27.are between the semifinals and finals. You can tell down the bottom

:17:28. > :17:31.part of the course where they must avoid the stoppers and left the bow

:17:32. > :17:34.of the boat on top. Watch the body language has become across the line.

:17:35. > :17:43.They will know they've blown the chance. Eight penalty points. A look

:17:44. > :17:46.of disappointment, you can understand that. They know the

:17:47. > :17:49.importance of going clear, interesting to see come with not

:17:50. > :17:56.have a podium of clear finishes, and one picking up two penalties,

:17:57. > :17:59.usually silver. But when it is as tight as this, David Florence said

:18:00. > :18:04.and Richard Hounslow both said this is likely to be the tightest race of

:18:05. > :18:09.all, maybe not in time terms but so many potential winners. The Times

:18:10. > :18:15.earlier on did show is extremely tight. We've not seen many Olympic

:18:16. > :18:23.finals and I'm not sure if any have been this type. -- tight. The first

:18:24. > :18:32.pair done, the Swiss will go next. Lukas Werro and Simon Werro with a

:18:33. > :18:38.towel 1.15 on the semifinal run. We are looking at the winning time of

:18:39. > :18:45.somewhere around 1.0 four. Lukas Werro in front and Simon Werro in

:18:46. > :18:49.the stern seat. The Swiss who finished 11th in the first heat put

:18:50. > :18:53.themselves in a very tricky to Jewish, but they build a good run

:18:54. > :19:01.out of the bag to get themselves through to the semifinal. They get

:19:02. > :19:04.the bow background, this is the first tricky upstream gate on the

:19:05. > :19:10.course, they are tight full stop it is all about the exit, can they get

:19:11. > :19:13.the nose back around? Trying not to clack the poor, good, slow but

:19:14. > :19:19.clean. They will start driving to get momentum on the board. 0.09

:19:20. > :19:24.outside the Americans but it all went wrong from the US after this

:19:25. > :19:29.section. I wonder if they were under orders to make sure that sequence,

:19:30. > :19:33.seven, eight, nine, ten. They were three seconds up on the semifinal

:19:34. > :19:40.won at gate seven but lots of that was thrown away. It is now a

:19:41. > :19:46.difficult drive across into 17. Not the easy. They dropped low but use

:19:47. > :19:50.the Eddie well to build the speed again and get up through the gate.

:19:51. > :19:59.How will they content at 19? The spin is so much more difficult in

:20:00. > :20:05.these disciplines. Nice drive across an tight around the inside poll. Now

:20:06. > :20:07.it's all about the exit. Keeping dry and get the turn on the board and

:20:08. > :20:15.client state in the downstream current as much as possible so that

:20:16. > :20:18.you keep the speed. Well up on the Americans, 96. Still three seconds

:20:19. > :20:25.ahead of the semifinal time. They've done what was acquired. It goes down

:20:26. > :20:29.as the best effort, no penalties on the board just now, they are through

:20:30. > :20:35.the last gate. Well beaten, but will it be good enough to put them into

:20:36. > :20:43.the top position? Our new leaders from Switzerland, Lukas Werro and

:20:44. > :20:46.Simon Werro. Solid performance, shaky start, look like they had to

:20:47. > :20:51.work very hard on the top section but from here on about gate 13, they

:20:52. > :20:55.started finding the rhythm. It is very important to get one of the

:20:56. > :21:01.boats with the stagger sequences around 11 and 12 and then 14, 15,

:21:02. > :21:09.16, they picked it up. Nice spin at the bottom, good cross run 19 - 20

:21:10. > :21:13.and a good exit across the way. They will be pleased to have made that

:21:14. > :21:21.improvement. I have a feeling we won't see them in the medals. Only

:21:22. > :21:26.two crews in this final have meddled at an Olympics before. Florence and

:21:27. > :21:31.Hounslow for Great Britain took the silver medal four years ago,

:21:32. > :21:38.Kuznetsov and Larionov of Russia took the bronze eight years ago in

:21:39. > :21:46.Beijing. This is the third Olympics. Drops the 14th in 2012. What will

:21:47. > :21:49.they do in 2016? Six seconds of penalties on the first run, so they

:21:50. > :21:55.will look to get off to a cleaner start. Nice and tight at gate three.

:21:56. > :21:59.Now the drive across, they are using the reverse stroke to set themselves

:22:00. > :22:08.up through gate five And Drive downstream to six. They enter this

:22:09. > :22:12.tight upstream gate seven, the exit is key here, lovely dry exit, one of

:22:13. > :22:16.the best we've seen but not direct to nine, working hard coming they

:22:17. > :22:24.are really attacking the boat from left to right. They were certainly

:22:25. > :22:29.in touch through seven. No problems towards 13, we see a few penalties

:22:30. > :22:32.there but they take no risks, it takes a little time to get the boat

:22:33. > :22:39.moving again as they go down this next downstream sequence. 16, a

:22:40. > :22:43.little scrappy going across, they have a drive over the River right to

:22:44. > :22:47.get through this upstream where the Americans dropped low. They are

:22:48. > :22:52.looking much better this time around. Can they spot the spin in

:22:53. > :22:58.gate 19? It is all about a quick turn with enough space to drive,

:22:59. > :23:01.onto the wave, four strokes onto the wave, they want to stay on the

:23:02. > :23:08.inside Paul at gate 20, nicely done. A clean exit year, quick turn and

:23:09. > :23:10.that is good. You want the fast flowing water to the last upstream

:23:11. > :23:15.gate on the course. Quick spin on the inside, having told slightly so

:23:16. > :23:21.they don't take the two second penalty. This is fantastic, well

:23:22. > :23:24.inside the currently does. A marginal something like five

:23:25. > :23:30.seconds. It can change in the last 50 metres. Kuznetsov and are of have

:23:31. > :23:38.given themselves every chance. -- and Marinov. That is a fantastic

:23:39. > :23:42.run, the fastest in the semifinal. That gives you an indication of just

:23:43. > :23:47.how good the Russian effort was. Will we see Russia on the podium? We

:23:48. > :23:51.have had six medals handed out at Deodoro, they've gone to six

:23:52. > :24:01.different nations. Just France and Great Britain taking gold. Joe

:24:02. > :24:04.Clarke in the K-1 24 hours ago for Great Britain. How important is it

:24:05. > :24:07.for British canoeing? Absolutely, it is key full stop we have to get a

:24:08. > :24:13.good results. Lots of funding depends on it but a size for the

:24:14. > :24:17.funding is so important for a row and boot and inspiration for the

:24:18. > :24:21.young people coming through and we put hours of work into it and it

:24:22. > :24:32.shows it all comes together on the big stage. It is important. Luka

:24:33. > :24:36.Bozic and Saso Taljat, they wouldn't expect to go so early in the final.

:24:37. > :24:44.The world champions from deep Creek in 2014. They have meddled at the

:24:45. > :24:48.Europeans and have won the World Cup in the World Championship course

:24:49. > :24:53.from last year in 2014. They are no stranger to the top of the order,

:24:54. > :24:56.and they won the pre-Olympic race here on this course. The gate

:24:57. > :25:00.Beazley says differently, but that must have given them an mental

:25:01. > :25:06.boost. As mitigates obviously set differently. They have a phenomenal

:25:07. > :25:12.reach on the paddle, pushing the body to catch the water nicely.

:25:13. > :25:18.Going as direct as they can between nine and ten. They are down on the

:25:19. > :25:24.split so they must nail the lines and upstream dates. Two teams down,

:25:25. > :25:33.to have gone clear, only two teams went clear in the entire semifinal.

:25:34. > :25:43.That was 15 boats. They really need to get the gates with perfection.

:25:44. > :25:51.Driving across the 17. That is looking good in terms of matching

:25:52. > :25:55.Kuznetsov and Larionov. This crossing over the gate 20 could be

:25:56. > :26:01.crucial. They must be high going through 20, they are. Well executed.

:26:02. > :26:06.They will look for the final line to the last upstream gate, they are in

:26:07. > :26:12.the flow and driving it. Can they get the quick spin? Yes and drive.

:26:13. > :26:17.Did they get a penalty on gate 22? Yes, they have. They will have to

:26:18. > :26:24.push really hard to the finish. It will be tight. The amazing time is

:26:25. > :26:28.one of 6.17. They've missed it due to that penalty. They would have

:26:29. > :26:33.been one second inside. Can they believe it. They go into silver

:26:34. > :26:41.medal position, but only for crews are down, six still to come. You can

:26:42. > :26:45.see from the body language they wanted gold, they expected gold,

:26:46. > :26:52.they are a fabulous pair when they get it together. The world champions

:26:53. > :26:55.from two years ago have not claimed the Olympic title. Kuznetsov and

:26:56. > :26:59.Larionov still lie in the gold medal position, but they will not be

:27:00. > :27:06.celebrating quite get because they know that the world's best are still

:27:07. > :27:11.to come. We're France who have a brilliant record in this discipline.

:27:12. > :27:15.Pottle and Skip Pansy put in a storming run in the semifinal, one

:27:16. > :27:22.of the surprises. Anton benzine, the only big-name missing is a big

:27:23. > :27:28.Slovakian and with Polly Swann one -- once the vacuum boat or find they

:27:29. > :27:31.are not here. Here are the replacements. Ladislav Skantar and

:27:32. > :27:35.Peter Skantar, two cousins who have piled together since they could

:27:36. > :27:40.walk. They should know each other inside out, and that is the way in a

:27:41. > :27:47.canoe, you see them in tune, they have a lovely style the connection

:27:48. > :27:55.with the boat is fantastic. A little hit in gate two, picked the lining

:27:56. > :28:00.the Dott -- picking the line at gate three. No one has been much under 24

:28:01. > :28:06.seconds at gate seven. Take the time as the front parlour smack head goes

:28:07. > :28:10.to the gate, again, about 24 seconds, they are not as at touch

:28:11. > :28:21.but the lead will not be huge if they have it. Still in touch. A

:28:22. > :28:27.little hit between downstream gates and tight in a gate -- at gate 13.

:28:28. > :28:33.DuPont of the Wallaby back to get the projection the flow. Again using

:28:34. > :28:37.the water nicely. You can see the real downstream drive getting

:28:38. > :28:41.momentum and across into 17. Watch how dry they keep the boat through

:28:42. > :28:46.17, it will do nicely. Lots of movement in the polls from the wind

:28:47. > :28:50.making the Judge's job the difficult. 2.34 having been half a

:28:51. > :28:54.second down, they pulled it together, they get the line slightly

:28:55. > :28:59.wrong in the 19, so further to get back into the flow. Nice and high

:29:00. > :29:05.through 20. Really quick through 20 and a nice exit, now about the clean

:29:06. > :29:11.line to 22 and a tight spin on the spot, can they get the tight exit?

:29:12. > :29:14.Then they need to dig deep, find the flow and the smooth line, lift the

:29:15. > :29:21.bow over the stopper. This is looking good. Not the quickest

:29:22. > :29:27.through great 20 -- days 22. Tpims help -- no penalties on the clock. A

:29:28. > :29:31.margin of 5.1 two. Sixth in the semifinal. They will not finish any

:29:32. > :29:37.lower than fourth in the final. Surely. That is an unbelievable run.

:29:38. > :29:50.That is how to take over from those who have won the title on three

:29:51. > :29:59.occasions, 2000, 2004 and again in 2008 and the bronze in 2012, the

:30:00. > :30:17.dominant force in Slovakian C2 but the scants are out of the shadows.

:30:18. > :30:30.They picked it up. -- Skantars. Excellent exit over 21. They have a

:30:31. > :30:39.sharper line into gate 13. They whipped it around, fasting and fast

:30:40. > :30:49.out. For France, class and pesh. They know how to respond to a good

:30:50. > :30:56.run -- Klauss and Peche. Finishing in fourth place in London four years

:30:57. > :31:01.ago, narrowly off a medal. And last year they went one better, finishing

:31:02. > :31:16.third. They know how to attack the course, which is what they have

:31:17. > :31:24.shown so far. Very nicely done. The scant ours got better and better as

:31:25. > :31:32.the run went on. And no penalties, meaning that Klauss and Peche must

:31:33. > :31:39.do the same. The next split will be interesting. 16 across to 17, a

:31:40. > :31:47.little bit back. That may be costly on the split. Exactly the same time

:31:48. > :31:51.they were in the quarterfinals. This is where they could make up some

:31:52. > :32:03.time on the scant ours. It is good for the French pairing. Not the same

:32:04. > :32:11.that we saw from the scant ours. Two brutal stoppers -- Skantars. They

:32:12. > :32:20.are going to have two dig deep but I think they will have two push to get

:32:21. > :32:25.to the same time as the Skantars. Going into the Silver Medal

:32:26. > :32:34.position. Skantars of Slovakia lead. Klauss and Peche then and you have

:32:35. > :32:39.Kuznetsov and Larionov, some five seconds off the leaders. You feel

:32:40. > :32:44.that one of the remaining crews is going to slot into that position.

:32:45. > :32:51.Absolutely, this final is getting very hot, these paddlers are really

:32:52. > :32:54.turning it up. The times are coming down significantly faster than in

:32:55. > :32:57.the semifinal, they've been away, looking at the video review, they

:32:58. > :33:06.know that there's nothing to give away on this course and they are

:33:07. > :33:12.nailing it, as they had to. Six cruise down, four to go. Poland,

:33:13. > :33:27.Great Britain, the Czech Republic and then Germany, with Anton and

:33:28. > :33:33.Benzien going last. Szczepanski and Pochwala, I think it's safe to say

:33:34. > :33:43.that there is no pressure on them. Reducing a solid run-in the semis, a

:33:44. > :33:49.time of one minute ten. They always go out hard and they always attack

:33:50. > :33:55.the course from the outset. Looking good but only at gate two. Can they

:33:56. > :34:01.go well around three? Now we've got to look for the lion. Quite a smooth

:34:02. > :34:10.bit of water -- the line. Members of the Krakow club and I suspect that

:34:11. > :34:20.the clubhouse is going to be packed. In touch going through seven. 0.38

:34:21. > :34:25.outside. The perfect run from here down to the bottom could put them

:34:26. > :34:29.into the medal positions. Need to be quick on 13 which is where the

:34:30. > :34:34.Skantars were so good. Not the same class. Looking in control at the

:34:35. > :34:43.moment, not having the most perfect run. 15 and 16, and can they get the

:34:44. > :34:47.good line into 17? Under the gate and out into the flow, the drive is

:34:48. > :34:51.what we were looking for. Trying to get the boat straight so they can

:34:52. > :34:58.drive through the stoppers, now they spin the 19. Lots of space, well

:34:59. > :35:04.negotiated into 20. Another upstream, one, two and then they are

:35:05. > :35:08.out. Can they get the line across? Yes, they are doing it, they must

:35:09. > :35:14.drive in and get the tight spin on the boat. Lovely, now they are

:35:15. > :35:17.digging deep, they've got to get the speed up and running, installing a

:35:18. > :35:25.bit on the exit but they must find a dry line and lift the nose over the

:35:26. > :35:32.Whitewater. They won't get the gold. Silver has gone as well but they are

:35:33. > :35:41.into the bronze medal position. Russia go down into fourth and Bozic

:35:42. > :35:45.and Taljat, who were so disappointed, down to fifth place.

:35:46. > :35:52.Slovakia, France, Poland, 1-3 with three still to go and the first of

:35:53. > :35:55.those, David Florence and Richard Hounslow from Great Britain looking

:35:56. > :36:06.to go one better than they did four years ago.

:36:07. > :36:21.Tim Bailey and Etihad .com available champions in this event -- Etienne

:36:22. > :36:24.Stott, not here to defend this. Pochwala and Szczepanski wanted more

:36:25. > :36:31.than third position. With three to go there is a chance they won't be

:36:32. > :36:36.on the podium. It's going to be a difficult 12, 13 minutes. Now, what

:36:37. > :36:42.will we see from Florence? He wasn't himself in the C1 final, he looked

:36:43. > :36:47.nervous and stiff, not fluent but he's working hard, he's at the front

:36:48. > :36:52.of the boat. The first little mistake going into gate three, using

:36:53. > :36:59.the 24 second marker to see where they are. It is eight, nine and ten

:37:00. > :37:04.which are crucial. Looking controlled, after the shaky start,

:37:05. > :37:08.nice through seven and they seem to be matching. Slight hold on the exit

:37:09. > :37:18.of gate seven but going smoothly through nine and ten. They are well

:37:19. > :37:23.inside. Looking good for Hounslow. Just trying to get the perfect line

:37:24. > :37:27.into 13. Not as clean as the Skantars and certainly sticky coming

:37:28. > :37:35.out which may be at least three quarters of a second but we'll see.

:37:36. > :37:39.Now they drive for 17. Slightly wider entrance into 17 but looking

:37:40. > :37:48.good on the exit. They must pick the line on the way down. They are up

:37:49. > :37:53.1.45, can they nailed the spin? Now onto the wave, it's all about the

:37:54. > :37:59.inside of gate 20, can they stay around it? Richard is working hard.

:38:00. > :38:04.Two big stoppers. That is one, that is two, nicely done and now they

:38:05. > :38:12.must drive the 22. Keep it clean, tight on the inside pole and now the

:38:13. > :38:17.Powerhouse, Richard, lifting the nose of the canoe over the water.

:38:18. > :38:21.Going through 24 and this is the moment of truth for Great Britain,

:38:22. > :38:29.are they going to get the gold? Not quite. 0.43 outside. Where did that

:38:30. > :38:33.disappear? Maybe not the cleanest line from 23 through to the finish

:38:34. > :38:37.but it was a wonderful effort from Florence and Hounslow, they are into

:38:38. > :38:44.the Silver Medal position which is exactly where they were in London in

:38:45. > :38:49.2012. We still have two to go, so nothing is certain yet and in fact

:38:50. > :38:55.they are not even guaranteed a medal at this stage. If they beat Kaspar

:38:56. > :39:07.and Sindler or Anton and Benzien, there will be another great Britain

:39:08. > :39:13.medal. The second British athlete to have claimed gold, the second but

:39:14. > :39:18.because we took gold in the C2 four years ago. This couple taking the

:39:19. > :39:20.silver, they are happy with themselves, they know that they did

:39:21. > :39:26.a good performance and that is what it's all about. Like David said, if

:39:27. > :39:34.they hadn't done a good performance it would be a different matter.

:39:35. > :39:40.Certainly did in the C1. And in the C2 he was a second up going through

:39:41. > :39:46.17 and 18. I know. Kaspar and Sindler from the Czech Republic.

:39:47. > :39:53.Safe enough in the heats, nothing to worry about and then a very good

:39:54. > :39:58.semifinal run. They've got to take some seven seconds off that if they

:39:59. > :40:05.want to win here today. Controlled, working nicely, tight on seven, see

:40:06. > :40:15.what exit they get. A little bit sticky. This isn't as good as we saw

:40:16. > :40:23.from Florence and Hounslow. Only 0.7 outside the fastest so far. Kaspar

:40:24. > :40:26.and Sindler. Nice line into 13 and a very quick exit which will help on

:40:27. > :40:34.the next split time as long as they can keep their line stop nice, very

:40:35. > :40:45.direct line. Now the drive, they want to see the po right underneath

:40:46. > :40:52.the poles on 17. -- the bow. Kaspar and Sindler, you can easily throw

:40:53. > :40:57.away a second on 19-20. They are not particularly quick. How will the

:40:58. > :41:04.drive be through the stoppers? That looked very clean, the post stayed

:41:05. > :41:12.dry. The last upstream, can they make it quick. Oh, my goodness!

:41:13. > :41:15.Upside-down! Two seconds inside the Skantars and they've thrown it away

:41:16. > :41:20.with that capsize. That's going to be painful viewing for them in the

:41:21. > :41:29.future because the gold was beckoning. The time of the Skantars

:41:30. > :41:40.survived, can you believe it? They had over a second's lead going into

:41:41. > :41:44.22. They lasted between 22 and 23. It is the dirty water, as the

:41:45. > :41:55.coaches were saying. Where did this go wrong? The back one has to lean

:41:56. > :41:59.off the outside pole sir the laid-back -- the outside pole so

:42:00. > :42:04.much, nothing he could do, the front man is in the water and the bank man

:42:05. > :42:11.is hitting the pole. Game over, what a disappointment. How do matter,

:42:12. > :42:19.that means that Hounslow and Florence are medalling for the

:42:20. > :42:24.second Olympics in succession. Having seen the bar on Lee Valley,

:42:25. > :42:28.we saw a clip on you Tube, I suspect that the celebrations have started

:42:29. > :42:37.already but hang on, there is one boat to come -- you Tube. Benzien

:42:38. > :42:49.and Anton to go. Here go the Germans. Slightly unconventional,

:42:50. > :42:56.the back is the real powerhouse. Normally it comes from the front,

:42:57. > :43:01.but Jan is very strong. They have to take control of the water, pick the

:43:02. > :43:07.line, nailed it and give away nothing in the upstream gates. Very

:43:08. > :43:13.fast into seven. If they go well for eight, nine and ten they may get the

:43:14. > :43:18.lead. Spinning around for eight. Still the green light. 0.72, the

:43:19. > :43:22.gold medal is there for the taking. The current world champions, Anton

:43:23. > :43:29.and Benzien, they have the power but do they have the finesse? Benzien is

:43:30. > :43:36.working very hard on the exit of 13. Now they must find finesse, get the

:43:37. > :43:41.boat running well. 17 is crucial, difficult but it's hard not to drop

:43:42. > :43:47.below it. They got out very quickly. The next split is surely going to be

:43:48. > :43:51.them. It is. This is a similar situation to the one we saw for

:43:52. > :43:59.Kaspar and Inglot, who capsized with two remaining. They've got to keep

:44:00. > :44:05.control -- Sindler. Keep the front dry, a bit slower than we've seen.

:44:06. > :44:09.They've got their stride, can we execute the last upstream gate? It

:44:10. > :44:15.is a good time. They lost a bit of time getting down to 22. It's going

:44:16. > :44:19.to be tough to match. The Skantars are lying at the top at the moment.

:44:20. > :44:30.They got their name on the gold medal. It is the Skantars who claim

:44:31. > :44:35.Olympic gold. Anton and Benzien go down into fourth position. Once

:44:36. > :44:43.again, the winners of the semifinal, the third time in accession, not

:44:44. > :44:48.medalling in the final, meaning that the Skantars are the champions were

:44:49. > :44:54.2016 and Florence and Hounslow have another plate of silver to add to

:44:55. > :44:59.the one that they took in 2012. That's a fabulous result. Gold and

:45:00. > :45:06.silver from the Deodoro for Great Britain and we have one more race to

:45:07. > :45:09.come. Fiona Pennie going in the women's K1. Absolutely, she must be

:45:10. > :45:15.sitting and thinking, my goodness, it's my turn but what better way

:45:16. > :45:18.than knowing that your fellow team-mates have come away with gold

:45:19. > :45:23.and silver? Wonderful performance from David and Richard.

:45:24. > :45:28.You could see across the fresh line they knew they could be proud and

:45:29. > :45:33.they had to sit and wait and it stood the time, there they are in

:45:34. > :45:40.silver medal position. David Florence's third silver medal of an

:45:41. > :45:46.Olympic Games. David and Richard replicates what they did four years

:45:47. > :45:51.ago. Eight C2 Olympic finals and Slovakia have now won four of them.

:45:52. > :46:02.50% going the way. You have to congratulate them. It isn't easy to

:46:03. > :46:06.take over from appearing like the Hochschorner twins. Good news again

:46:07. > :46:10.for British canoeing and we have four disciplines and four boards in

:46:11. > :46:16.the final. Absolutely, they've been on great form, the disappointment of

:46:17. > :46:20.that first final, the C1 final where we just did not come out, he did not

:46:21. > :46:27.let it affect him, that shows pure class. Let's confirm it, Ladislav

:46:28. > :46:32.Skantar and Peter Skantar taking Olympic gold with a beautiful run.

:46:33. > :46:34.Zero penalties. David Florence and Richard Hounslow under pressure but

:46:35. > :46:38.they started in the Magic position of eighth in the final and again it

:46:39. > :46:44.has produced the goods. They take the silver. France in third and the

:46:45. > :46:52.winners of the semifinal out of the medals.

:46:53. > :46:59.The silver lining once again just as it was in London 2012 for David and

:47:00. > :47:02.Richard. Florence and Hounslow, wonderful scenes. It is a third

:47:03. > :47:06.silver medal overall in David's career from Beijing and London and

:47:07. > :47:10.now one of the most was the performance in the history of

:47:11. > :47:16.British canoeing. This is great stuff from our paddlers. More medals

:47:17. > :47:22.at the Rio rapids and Fiona Pennie will go in a bit of time. At 7pm is

:47:23. > :47:27.when the women's K-1 will get underway. These guys have a bit of

:47:28. > :47:35.things to do before they can get the interview done. We will probably be

:47:36. > :47:38.able to speak to them after the K-1 final with Fiona Pennie. Unless they

:47:39. > :47:45.can spread their way to him. Unlikely. In fact, we will change

:47:46. > :47:52.pace completely until then and we will go to the equestrian centre.

:47:53. > :47:56.The Charlotte Dujardin, who is the defending champion in both the team

:47:57. > :48:00.event and individual event, she is the last of the four Britons in the

:48:01. > :48:04.team to start her dressage campaign and she did so just a little while

:48:05. > :48:09.ago on the brilliant Valegro. COMMENTATOR:

:48:10. > :48:17.Britain looking for a really good mark to get them a solid performance

:48:18. > :48:21.into the Grand Prix special. And then unmarked that perhaps launches

:48:22. > :48:28.them into what will be a very competitive battle for a team medal.

:48:29. > :48:33.We saw an amazing halt moved off, how it should be done. That was

:48:34. > :48:43.almost copybook. How much will she go for any extended trot? -- in the

:48:44. > :48:49.extended. This course so wants to go. Sometimes it is how much of the

:48:50. > :49:00.handbrake does she dare let off. He's such an amazing horse, so

:49:01. > :49:08.willing. Half past -- half pass and look at what he is crossing his

:49:09. > :49:16.legs. Really nice. Half pass the other way, big, expansive steps. It

:49:17. > :49:30.looks very easy. 8.7 for the half pass to the right. 8.9 for the one

:49:31. > :49:34.to the left. Halt, very square. Going back.

:49:35. > :49:46.7.9. She looks like she can start to let go a little bit more and just

:49:47. > :49:54.ride him. Let's remember, this is the horse that is Olympians with

:49:55. > :49:57.Charlotte, world champions and European champions. The pack have

:49:58. > :50:08.been closing in on her, she needs to give it everything. Really nice

:50:09. > :50:11.there. Into the passage. Just could have stayed a little bit longer, but

:50:12. > :50:26.nice and regular in the rhythm. There is some nines and tens in the

:50:27. > :50:35.marks. Transition is eight. This horse is just such a character. He

:50:36. > :50:40.is such a dude, isn't he? Really is. Just now he is averaging, if the

:50:41. > :50:44.marks are right, and we sometimes question them, just a little ahead

:50:45. > :50:54.of the current leader at the top of the board, her great rival, the

:50:55. > :50:58.lovely horse of Karen for a spray. We could see a difference between

:50:59. > :51:04.extended and collected walk. Charlotte really showing a clear

:51:05. > :51:20.difference. A lovely collected walk and transition into the passage.

:51:21. > :51:39.Now on the centreline you can see him starting sit there. Really nice,

:51:40. > :51:49.even steps. And a nice transition into Canter. Remember, this horse

:51:50. > :51:55.and rider after those Europeans last late summer when they just one that

:51:56. > :52:00.European individual title will help Britain to that team medal. They've

:52:01. > :52:04.hardly been seen at all, they've been seen as a build-up to this but

:52:05. > :52:10.other than that this horse has been managed at home by Carl and

:52:11. > :52:14.Charlotte. So far it seems to have worked. It is the flying changes

:52:15. > :52:20.where I was getting nervous. He did some lovely fine changes, 9.3, when

:52:21. > :52:30.he gets them he is stunning. This Canter is to die for. Expansive,

:52:31. > :52:39.uphill, good contact. Energetic. 310 iss and for -- three sets of ten and

:52:40. > :52:55.four sets of nine. I'm starting to get goose bumps. Keep them. Clear

:52:56. > :52:57.positioning. Now, Charlotte is pleased. This is where you can just

:52:58. > :53:16.take over. My goodness, I could hardly speak.

:53:17. > :53:21.Really good. Lovely changes. Well, Valegro is doing his stuff. So is

:53:22. > :53:28.Charlotte. They are an unbelievable partnership.

:53:29. > :53:37.Really small pirouettes, keeping the rhythm. More ten and more nines. We

:53:38. > :53:54.will see them after. Very controlled. Pirouette, a nine,

:53:55. > :53:58.it is getting a bit nerve wracking. Still, the marks are better than our

:53:59. > :54:10.current leader on the average board. Will she be able to let that break

:54:11. > :54:25.off? Yes. The judge at Kay is one we need to speak to. That is the German

:54:26. > :54:35.judge. Yes. Rhythmical, keep the energy. More tens and nines, nothing

:54:36. > :54:47.under 8.5. Known as blue Bridge of his friends. -- blueberry. Keep the

:54:48. > :54:54.energy. Willing him to keep the same rhythm all the way through.

:54:55. > :55:01.Blueberry lost some energy there. And that is it! That could be the

:55:02. > :55:09.leading test of the Grand Prix. The marks would suggest it. There is big

:55:10. > :55:12.hugs all around the Carl Hester. Carl and Charlotte have managed this

:55:13. > :55:19.horse for a year to perform that sort of test and that is

:55:20. > :55:26.sensational. Charlotte is happy. Let's hope those judges. They are

:55:27. > :55:34.happy! And the leader in the Grand Prix dressage with one session left

:55:35. > :55:42.goes to Britain's tsar -- Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro. Watch that

:55:43. > :55:49.place 14 GB. It means we drop a score of supernovae and Britain gone

:55:50. > :55:54.to 79.252 and we cannot get ahead of the Germans, but we are right close

:55:55. > :55:57.up behind them. Charlotte is an individual standings in the team in

:55:58. > :56:01.second place as the guys were saying. From dancing horses to

:56:02. > :56:07.raging rapids, we have now managed to catch hold of our silver

:56:08. > :56:11.medallists, they are with Matt. Hazel, here I am with Richard and

:56:12. > :56:18.David. What an amazing performance. Yes. It is always difficult when

:56:19. > :56:22.early runners put in such a good run. They went so much quicker than

:56:23. > :56:30.everyone in the first run, it is easy to think, how on earth will we

:56:31. > :56:33.be that? We didn't. Indeed. Are disappointed from C1 in the last

:56:34. > :56:38.couple of days and I wanted to go out and enjoy it and we spoke about

:56:39. > :56:41.doing everything we could do better viability and leaving everything

:56:42. > :56:46.else to one side and I think we did a solid job of doing that. Richard

:56:47. > :56:50.particularly suit Dott is solid on race days, you know he will be rival

:56:51. > :56:55.and nothing seems to faze him. He is good man to have on the back of the

:56:56. > :56:58.boat and it helped having him there. Praise indeed. Solid and dependable.

:56:59. > :57:04.Did it feel like that? Is easy having him in the front, workhorse.

:57:05. > :57:11.It has been a difficult eight years, we've worked really hard over the

:57:12. > :57:15.years and to come out with a medal at the Olympics is fantastic. So

:57:16. > :57:20.close to gold again, maybe a bit bittersweet, but we are happy. It

:57:21. > :57:23.could all unravel so quickly. As you see with your competitor is

:57:24. > :57:27.definitely, he had to pick himself back up from C1 the other day, did a

:57:28. > :57:33.great job of that and now we can finally relax and enjoy the Olympics

:57:34. > :57:37.and watching. What about the future? Is this it for you? Unfortunately C2

:57:38. > :57:43.is looking unlikely to be included in Tokyo Twenty20 so unfortunately

:57:44. > :57:48.that will be at for us having together. I'm still loving canoeing,

:57:49. > :57:53.not any plans to retire just now but who knows? Richard? I obviously

:57:54. > :57:58.retire from it individual event at the end of last year to put

:57:59. > :58:04.everything into C2. I guess I will have to go away for a bit and unwind

:58:05. > :58:09.and then decide. I guess I might have to get myself a real job.

:58:10. > :58:13.Before any of that, enjoy the medals ceremony. Congratulations, everyone

:58:14. > :58:19.at home will want me to say, fantastic performance, we are very

:58:20. > :58:22.proud. Thank you. Thank you. A silver lining indeed, fantastic

:58:23. > :58:27.effort from the two lads. They will stay around to cheer on Fiona

:58:28. > :58:31.Pennie, whoever Dott who also has a chance of medals shortly in her

:58:32. > :58:36.final start at 7pm in the women's K-1 final. The event forward in

:58:37. > :58:43.which Joe Clarke won the surprise gold last night. So much going on. I

:58:44. > :58:45.was having account of the medals, 14 today and with Katherine Grainger

:58:46. > :58:50.and Ricky Thornley's silver on the water earlier it means nine of the

:58:51. > :58:56.14 medals so far won by Great Britain have come in or on the

:58:57. > :58:59.water. It is fair to say the medals are now beginning to flood in inner

:59:00. > :59:02.Rio. From the afternoon team, I will catch you tomorrow. Goodbye.

:59:03. > :59:08.You're coming across as, frankly, ridiculous.

:59:09. > :59:10.I'm flabbergasted by that. Will they get burnt...

:59:11. > :59:15.You have done an appalling job of selling them online. Erm...
