:00:24. > :00:32.Welcome back to Rio for further coverage of day six of the Olympic

:00:33. > :00:39.Games. It is a beautiful day. Sugar Loaf Mountain in the background.

:00:40. > :00:45.Silver medal success for Great Britain Tom Mitchell from Katherine

:00:46. > :00:51.Grainger and Vicky Thornley. I and also silver medal for Richard

:00:52. > :00:57.Hounslow and David Florence. I am at the velodrome. Let's hear

:00:58. > :01:01.first, though, from David Florence and Richard Hounslow. After winning

:01:02. > :01:04.the silver medal, they speck to Matthew but first, here is how they

:01:05. > :01:10.performed. Now, what to see from David

:01:11. > :01:18.Florence? He was not himself in the C 1 final. Nervous, stiff. Not

:01:19. > :01:22.fluent. But he is working hard. He is at power House. That is a little

:01:23. > :01:28.mistake. There at 23 and gate 7 the marker to

:01:29. > :01:32.see where they are. But it is eight, nine, ten that is crucial.

:01:33. > :01:40.Looking controlled after shaky start. They are matching there, a

:01:41. > :01:47.hold on the exit of gate seven and nine and ten.

:01:48. > :01:53.They are well inside. 1.58 the margin. Looking good for Hounslow

:01:54. > :01:59.and Florence, not as clean as the Skantars. Sticky coming out that

:02:00. > :02:05.could have been three-quarters of a second. But let's keep our eye on

:02:06. > :02:10.it. Slightly wider entrance into 17.

:02:11. > :02:14.Looking good on the exit. Picking the line on the way down. Looking at

:02:15. > :02:21.the split they are up. Can they nail the spin? They have to find the

:02:22. > :02:26.projection on to the wave. Now on gate 20. Can they stay around it.

:02:27. > :02:30.Richard is working very hard. Two big stoppers to power their way

:02:31. > :02:34.through, that is one, two, nicely done. Now a drive for 22.

:02:35. > :02:43.Keep it clean. Keep it tight on the inside pole. Now, powerhouse, David

:02:44. > :02:46.drive out down the bowell. It is about lickeding the nose out of the

:02:47. > :02:50.water. They need a good line out of gate 4.

:02:51. > :02:54.This is the moment of truth for Great Britain. Are they to add to

:02:55. > :03:00.the Gold Medal taken by Joe Clarke, not quite. 0.3 outside. Where did

:03:01. > :03:05.that disappear. Perhaps not the cleanest lean from 23 through to the

:03:06. > :03:09.finish but a wonderful effort from David Florence and Richard Hounslow.

:03:10. > :03:13.Into the silver medal position, it is exactly where they were in London

:03:14. > :03:20.in 2012. But we still have two boats to go. So nothing is certain quite

:03:21. > :03:30.yet. In fact, they are not even guaranteed a medal at this stage.

:03:31. > :03:38.Somehow they would beat Kaspar and Sindler or Anton and Benzien. We

:03:39. > :03:44.will see. Hitch arred Hounslow the second boat

:03:45. > :03:53.to have claimed the medal, we took the gold in the C2 previously.

:03:54. > :03:58.What an amazing performance? It is tough with when the early runners

:03:59. > :04:07.put in a good run. The Skantars. It is easy to think how could we beat

:04:08. > :04:12.that? We all did! Indeed. But I was a little disappointed after the past

:04:13. > :04:18.few days. I wanted to enjoy it. Do each gate to the best ability we

:04:19. > :04:22.could. I think we did a solid job. Richard is solid on race days. You

:04:23. > :04:26.know he is going to be reliable. Nothing phases him. He is a good man

:04:27. > :04:32.to have at the back of the boat. It helped to have him there.

:04:33. > :04:37.Prays indeed, Richard, solid and dependable. Did it feel like that?

:04:38. > :04:43.It is easy with David at the front of the boat! It has been a few hard

:04:44. > :04:49.years. We have worked hard over the years. To come out with a medal at

:04:50. > :04:54.the Olympics is fantastic. Again, close to the golds, maybe a little

:04:55. > :04:59.bittersweet but we are happy. But it can unravel so quickly, like

:05:00. > :05:06.some of your competitors? Definitely. Now we can relax. We can

:05:07. > :05:12.enjoy the Olympics and watch it. What about the future, guise? Is

:05:13. > :05:17.this it for you? C2 is looking unlikely to be included in Tokyo,

:05:18. > :05:22.2020. So that could be it for us paddling together. I am loving

:05:23. > :05:27.canoeing with no plans to retire but who knows.

:05:28. > :05:32.Richard? I yeah, I retired from my individual event at the end of last

:05:33. > :05:37.year. I everything into the C2. I will have to go away for a bit.

:05:38. > :05:43.Unwind and then decide... I guess I may have to get myself a real job!

:05:44. > :05:48.Well, before any of that, enjoy the medal ceremony. Congratulations.

:05:49. > :05:51.Everyone at home will want me to say - a fantastic performance, we are

:05:52. > :05:57.very proud. Thank you very much. Cheers.

:05:58. > :06:03.Matt, I hope you said that a proper job is underrated. More fun to be a

:06:04. > :06:08.full-time athlete. We sea Fiona Pennie from BBC One, missing out on

:06:09. > :06:15.the medals where did she finish? Sixth in the end. Looking at the

:06:16. > :06:21.paddlers around her, her world ranking is in the 20s. Many of the

:06:22. > :06:28.pad hers before her ranked in the top ten. She gave it her everything.

:06:29. > :06:31.But the margins are tight in the sport.

:06:32. > :06:38.That is important to put it into context with what one expects coming

:06:39. > :06:41.to the Games. As you said to David and Richard. That course was

:06:42. > :06:47.difficult. There was a capsize there? There was a capsize in the

:06:48. > :06:51.C2. It is the balance between having to absolutely go for it. The people

:06:52. > :06:55.that win the Gold Medals in the canoe slalom take risks and get the

:06:56. > :07:01.speed and cut the lines very, very fine. It is risky. You can see when

:07:02. > :07:05.it goes wrong it unravels really badly.

:07:06. > :07:09.It looks good conditions there Matthew. I should that I that

:07:10. > :07:13.overall the British team are thrilled with the medal count? I

:07:14. > :07:18.will bring in the performance director, John Anderson. Widen out

:07:19. > :07:28.to include him. Clare Balding is asking to put the whole slalom team

:07:29. > :07:33.into perspective for us? I think it has been an outstanding slalom race.

:07:34. > :07:37.It was not David's day. But as a team we refocussed. We know we

:07:38. > :07:42.prepared better than any team. Joe winning the Gold Medal yesterday,

:07:43. > :07:53.the first men's Olympic kayaking gold for us. Really pleased for Joe.

:07:54. > :07:56.And then C2, for David Florence and Richard Hounslow, a fantastic

:07:57. > :08:01.performance on a tricky course and a silver medal. Winning any medal on a

:08:02. > :08:08.canoe slalom on a course like this is a tough old game. But looking at

:08:09. > :08:12.David, that is three consecutive Olympics and Olympic medals, so...

:08:13. > :08:16.Probably the biggest smile I have seen him have.

:08:17. > :08:22.Oh, sorry, trying not to take you out! David was delighted with that?

:08:23. > :08:27.So he should be. He has worked so hard since London. Really dedicated.

:08:28. > :08:31.In fact they all are. It is a privilege to work with the athletes

:08:32. > :08:36.in the team. They are a great bunch. We are going back with a Gold Medal

:08:37. > :08:40.and a silver medal within an athlete's team of four. So a

:08:41. > :08:47.fantastic achievement. We are really pleased.

:08:48. > :08:50.Let me bring in Fiona Pennie pen. Be careful, don't end your Olympics to

:08:51. > :09:00.be clattered by a fence. How was the run? I guess I knew what people had

:09:01. > :09:06.put in before me. But it would have been pretty good if there was time

:09:07. > :09:11.in the semi-final run. I think you snagged a gate with the

:09:12. > :09:15.stern. Did you feel that? Yeah, I heard it behind me. That is really,

:09:16. > :09:21.really unfortunate to have that happen. It is one of those touches

:09:22. > :09:27.in the slalom you don't want to happen. What did the coaching team

:09:28. > :09:31.say after? That I had put in the hard work, that is unfortunately the

:09:32. > :09:38.sport sometimes it just doesn't go your way. The slightest bit of water

:09:39. > :09:42.to go the wrong way and I had the couple of touches, so I had to work

:09:43. > :09:45.hard in other places to get out of trouble.

:09:46. > :09:54.Do you still have the enthusiasm and the energy for more of this, or is

:09:55. > :09:59.this for you? Still energy in the tank. Still learning, still

:10:00. > :10:03.improving, so I'll be back. Very good. It's been great to see

:10:04. > :10:10.you perform. There you have it Clare. A fantastic

:10:11. > :10:14.performance from the GB slalom canoeing, four events, two medals

:10:15. > :10:21.from up here in Deodoro. Great. Thank you very much Matthew.

:10:22. > :10:27.Thank you for the interview with Fiona Pennie. And Andy Murray has

:10:28. > :10:31.been in trouble playing tennis with fog toing fog of Italy. Andy Murray

:10:32. > :10:39.being a break down in the set is a break up. Serving for a 5-3 lead

:10:40. > :10:43.live on BBC Four. If you would like to follow that all the way through

:10:44. > :10:49.to the conclusion. And the British other silver medal away from the

:10:50. > :10:52.canoeing came from Vicky Thornley and Katherine Grainger, giving

:10:53. > :10:58.Katherine Grainger a fifth consecutive Olympic medal. It makes

:10:59. > :11:05.her Britain's most decorated ever female Olympian. So fantastic stuff

:11:06. > :11:09.considering that originally they were dropped from the original

:11:10. > :11:15.squad. So a terrific performance from both of them and the rugby

:11:16. > :11:21.sevens has been sensational. You saw earlier in action against South

:11:22. > :11:25.Africa. This was the crucial moment. A penalty advantage played. James

:11:26. > :11:32.Davis, back to Bibby. Bibby is clear. Mark been yet points the way

:11:33. > :11:39.down field but James Davis is there. Phil Burgess is there. A pass to Dan

:11:40. > :11:51.Norton. The speedster. One on one... What a pass! Great Britain's first

:11:52. > :11:59.try! Between the posts! And here... Is the try scorer.

:12:00. > :12:05.Staring down the team that scores in sevens, and they take the re-start.

:12:06. > :12:18.James Rodwell chases. He will challenge.

:12:19. > :12:23.Taken by Kyle Brown. South Africa to Dion. Burgess and Bibby bringing

:12:24. > :12:28.down the South African player. Davies over the ball and Bibby joins

:12:29. > :12:33.him. A penalty to South Africa. Unlucky. James Davis so strong

:12:34. > :12:36.throwing the ball down frr South Africa. I'm surprised that the team

:12:37. > :12:41.did not kick long and push the South Africans back into their half.

:12:42. > :12:48.I suppose that the fear is it is a strong wind it may have gone dead?

:12:49. > :12:53.That is true. But a great take from the South Africans. They have a

:12:54. > :13:03.chance to attack now. De Jongh... Leaving it for Justin

:13:04. > :13:07.Hedl on the field. A mini advantage to Great Britain as South Africa

:13:08. > :13:11.knock-on. Great Britain hung on to the

:13:12. > :13:15.advantage beating South Africa 7-5. Playing for a Gold Medal, the first

:13:16. > :13:26.ever in Olympic rugby sevens history. Playing Fiji, who beat

:13:27. > :13:31.Japan convincingly 20-5. After, John Inverdale spoke to Phil Burgess.

:13:32. > :13:35.Talk us through the tackle? We spoke through the ten weeks about being

:13:36. > :13:40.brave. Pushing them to the sword and making them do it. It was a time you

:13:41. > :13:45.thought you have to go everything. So to put them under pressure.

:13:46. > :13:50.Defensively it has not been pretty but it worked for us it was one of

:13:51. > :13:54.those. I knew if I went everyone would be behind me. That is what it

:13:55. > :14:01.is. I made a good tackle. There were three or four of us. We got what we

:14:02. > :14:05.wanted in the turnover. I don't know if you believe in destiny but after

:14:06. > :14:09.last night's extraordinary events, was there an element where you

:14:10. > :14:14.thought this may be our event? I think when we had the penalty and

:14:15. > :14:18.Argentina missed, I thought, I think that something is going for us here.

:14:19. > :14:22.We had the kick and missed. I thought, is it going our way? It is

:14:23. > :14:28.the guts and the determination showed by the boys. Is it destined

:14:29. > :14:35.to be? We will give it our all in the final game. Put them to the

:14:36. > :14:39.sword. If we show our heart and bravery, we will get on the right

:14:40. > :14:43.side of it. The support from home. It is helping us move on. It is

:14:44. > :14:49.great to have the support. The whole nation coming together is amazing.

:14:50. > :14:54.And Great Britain against Fiji in the first ever Olympic final?

:14:55. > :15:01.Unbelievable. Edreamed about this ten weeks ago. When we did the

:15:02. > :15:05.fitness sessions, the scenarios, the psychology sessions, this is what we

:15:06. > :15:11.were aiming for. We needed this, we needed that opportunity. We have it.

:15:12. > :15:16.One more step? That's it exactly. Keep it going.

:15:17. > :15:24.And John Inverdale is a lucky man at the moment with me now is Sir Chris

:15:25. > :15:28.Hoy. You loved the rugby sevens? I do. I was privileged to present the

:15:29. > :15:33.teams with the jersey at the start of the Games. So I would like to

:15:34. > :15:39.think that is down to me. Clearly! Obviously. Did the coaching come

:15:40. > :15:43.from you? I don't know about that. But the talk of dealing with the

:15:44. > :15:46.pressure, and the last few seconds of a crucial match to deal with the

:15:47. > :15:51.pain and remember that everyone is feeling the same. But they know what

:15:52. > :15:55.they are doing. It was a privilege to see them and present them with

:15:56. > :15:59.their jerseys, the excitement on their faces. You could see that they

:16:00. > :16:03.had the look of a team together and up for the tournament. Fingers

:16:04. > :16:08.crossed they can win one more match and bring home the Gold Medal.

:16:09. > :16:11.Fabulous. fabulous, Fiji are hot favourites for that. As you see

:16:12. > :16:16.behind, the Australian team have been on the track. We're hoping for

:16:17. > :16:21.a gold medal performance tonight from Britain's sprinters, is it

:16:22. > :16:26.possible in the team sprint? It's probably one of the biggest

:16:27. > :16:30.challenges we've got. They've not won eight world level medal since

:16:31. > :16:36.2011, won four years ago at the Olympics. In the last three or four

:16:37. > :16:40.months they've turned it around, found a third lab rider, Calum

:16:41. > :16:45.Skinner, who can get on the Aquila Jason Kenney. Phil Hind is one of

:16:46. > :16:50.the most consistent performers. -- get on the back wheel of Jason

:16:51. > :16:53.Kenney. It's going to be tight. Winning mentality is an important

:16:54. > :16:56.thing, something we know Andy Murray has in spades. If the Wimbledon

:16:57. > :17:02.champion and defending Olympic champion having been a breakdown in

:17:03. > :17:07.the deciding set against Fabio Fognini, Murray has come right back

:17:08. > :17:13.and taken that match. He's into the quarterfinals. Slightly delayed

:17:14. > :17:17.because of the rain yesterday, the tennis programme, all the matches

:17:18. > :17:21.were abandoned. The women already at quarterfinal stage. Johanna Konta

:17:22. > :17:24.later playing Angelique Kerber. Barry determined he wasn't going to

:17:25. > :17:27.park these Olympics the weight Novak Djokovic had done when he went out

:17:28. > :17:31.in the first round against Juan Martin Del Potro. The Murray

:17:32. > :17:35.brothers out of the doubles. It is singles and singles only. On which

:17:36. > :17:39.Andy Murray is concentrating. He goes through having carried the flag

:17:40. > :17:44.at the opening ceremony. Davis Cup captain Leon Smith pointing at his

:17:45. > :17:49.head, saying, all in there. It was all there and he's done a terrific

:17:50. > :17:52.job. Another sport we've traditionally had great success in,

:17:53. > :18:01.the first time British won gold medals in team and individual.

:18:02. > :18:05.Charlotte Dujardin's individual can petition starts today. She's the

:18:06. > :18:09.final ride in the British team. An Allegro. This is her test.

:18:10. > :18:14.Looking for a really good mark, Britain, to get them a solid

:18:15. > :18:20.performance into the Grand Prix special. And a mark that perhaps

:18:21. > :18:28.launches them into what's going to be a very competitive battle for 18

:18:29. > :18:34.medal. Twitch at team medal. That's how it should be done, almost

:18:35. > :18:44.copybook. And what is she going to be able to go for in the extended

:18:45. > :18:49.drops? -- trots. So wanting to go. Sometimes it's how much of the

:18:50. > :18:56.handbrake does she dare let off? He's such an amazing horse, so

:18:57. > :19:01.willing. Half past. We consider really nice band, how much he's

:19:02. > :19:12.crossing his legs. Really nice to watch. The half past the other way.

:19:13. > :19:37.Big expansive steps. Very easy. -- the half pass. Holt, very square.

:19:38. > :19:51.7.9. She looks like she can start to let go a bit more and just ride him.

:19:52. > :19:55.Let's remember, Peter, this is the horse that is Olympic champion with

:19:56. > :19:58.Charlotte, world champion, and European champion. The pack have

:19:59. > :20:01.been closing in on her, she needs to give it everything. Really nice

:20:02. > :20:12.there in the passage. Just could have stayed there a

:20:13. > :20:18.little bit longer, but nice and regular in the rhythm.

:20:19. > :20:33.Some names and ten is coming up in the marks. Transitions. -- nines and

:20:34. > :20:38.tens. This horse is such a character, he really is. At the

:20:39. > :20:42.moment he is averaging, if the marks are right, and we sometimes question

:20:43. > :20:50.them, just a little ahead of the current leader about the top of the

:20:51. > :20:55.board, her great rival, the lovely horse of her arrival. We can see a

:20:56. > :21:01.real difference between the extended walk and collected walk. Charlotte

:21:02. > :21:05.really showing a clear difference, really lovely. And a lovely

:21:06. > :21:32.transition into the passage. Now, you can really see him starting

:21:33. > :21:44.to sit there. Really nice, even steps. And a nice transition into

:21:45. > :21:51.Canter. Remember this horse and rider, after those Europeans in

:21:52. > :21:56.Aachen late last summer, when they just won the European individual

:21:57. > :22:02.title, helped Britain to that team medal. They've hardly been seen at

:22:03. > :22:06.all. They were seen at Hartpury in the build-up, but other than that

:22:07. > :22:12.but what has been managed at home by Carl and Charlotte. So far it seems

:22:13. > :22:17.to have worked. It's always the flying changes I got nervous on, he

:22:18. > :22:24.did some lovely flying changes, 9.3. When he gets them he is stunning.

:22:25. > :22:31.This is his forte, the Canter is to die for, expansive, uphill, good

:22:32. > :22:37.contact, energetic. Three tens and 49s for those changes. I'm not

:22:38. > :22:43.surprised. This is starting to make me get goose bumps now.

:22:44. > :22:57.Clear positioning. Now, Charlotte, please write these. This is where he

:22:58. > :23:17.can just take over. Oh my goodness, I can hardly speak.

:23:18. > :23:22.Really good, lovely, lovely changes. Valegro's doing his stuff, but my

:23:23. > :23:35.word, so is Charlotte. They are an unbelievable partnership. Really

:23:36. > :23:39.small pirouette, keeping the rhythm. Pirouette 8.6. Somebody's being a

:23:40. > :23:50.bit mean down there. We'll see them after! Very controlled. Pirouette

:23:51. > :23:56.nine. It's getting a bit nerve wracking, this. Still, the marks are

:23:57. > :24:04.better than our current leader on the average board here. Is she going

:24:05. > :24:12.to be able to let the handbrake off? Yeah...

:24:13. > :24:24.The judge at K is one we need to talk to. It's the German judge. Yes,

:24:25. > :24:32.Peter, how easy or German? -- how is your German. Rhythmic. Keep your

:24:33. > :24:40.energy, Charlotte. More tens, more nines. Nothing under 8.5. Known as

:24:41. > :24:53.blueberry to his friends. Keep the energy. Willing him to keep the same

:24:54. > :25:01.rhythm all the way through. Blueberry lost a bit of energy

:25:02. > :25:08.there. That is it! That could be the leading test of the Grand Prix, the

:25:09. > :25:11.marks suggest it. Big hugs all around for Carl Leicester. Carl

:25:12. > :25:15.Lester and Charlotte have managed this horse for a year to perform

:25:16. > :25:24.that sort of test, and that is sensational. Charlotte's happy.

:25:25. > :25:32.Let's hope the judges... 85.7 one. They are happy. The leader in the
