:05:47. > :05:55.Let's talk to the Olympic bronze medallist Steve Parry.
:05:56. > :06:08.Looking back to my time in 2004, I mean, I remember beating him up
:06:09. > :06:11.to about 35 metres to go, but this is the thing
:06:12. > :06:17.I remember getting goose bumps down my spine and just thinking
:06:18. > :06:20.to myself, "You know what, I am going to take this guy apart,"
:06:21. > :06:23.but he just gets to turn it on any time he wants to.
:06:24. > :06:26.I remember at this point here, it felt like there was an elephant
:06:27. > :06:29.on top of my back and this is where Phelps is brilliant.
:06:30. > :06:31.He goes away and broke the Olympic record there
:06:32. > :06:35.The scary thing is he was just embarking on his
:06:36. > :06:43.Steve, when we look at many sports, you see a superstar come
:06:44. > :06:47.along and then you wonder if you will see another one in 10,
:06:48. > :06:53.Will we ever see another swimmer like Michael Phelps?
:06:54. > :07:00.People said that about Mark Spitz when he got the seven gold medals.
:07:01. > :07:05.The scary thing about Michael Phelps, not only has he had
:07:06. > :07:10.He's won multiple gold medals at at least three Games.
:07:11. > :07:13.I probably believe there will be a man who will win multiple gold
:07:14. > :07:15.medals, but they won't repeat it, Games after Games.
:07:16. > :07:20.This guy is unreal, especially at the age of 31.
:07:21. > :07:24.Steve, what has been interesting, going through the American papers
:07:25. > :07:29.online, such is the popularity of American football
:07:30. > :07:30.and basketball, what has been interesting
:07:31. > :07:33.is swimming is getting an awful lot of coverage because of Michael
:07:34. > :07:42.The swimming finals don't even start for two hours.
:07:43. > :07:44.The reason for that is because of American television.
:07:45. > :07:47.Such is the power of Michael Phelps, they want to change the times
:07:48. > :07:50.that the swimming is on, so we are all staying up late
:07:51. > :07:55.here to witness these achievements of Michael Phelps.
:07:56. > :07:58.It is very rare that they cut through the big four sports
:07:59. > :08:00.in America, but this fella can do it.
:08:01. > :08:03.What I like about his story, it is not just the sport,
:08:04. > :08:05.there have been a great deal of trials and tribulations
:08:06. > :08:15.It is great to see him come out the other side.
:08:16. > :08:19.We are talking about Phelps and Lochte but a lot of British talent.
:08:20. > :08:27.I am hoping one of them can get a medal.
:08:28. > :08:35.If they do get a medal, we have already had our best
:08:36. > :08:47.It will obliterate everything we have done in 50 years.
:08:48. > :08:50.And more Adam Peaty to come so it could be better.
:08:51. > :08:53.It will be a great night in the pool, but I think
:08:54. > :08:55.the headline event is Michael Phelps v Ryan Lochte, two
:08:56. > :09:01.That is Steve Parry there for us at the Olympic Park.
:09:02. > :09:03.Now, let's turn our attention to badminton.
:09:04. > :09:14.Ousef is expected to reach the knockout stages.
:09:15. > :09:57.COMMENTATOR: Lovely angle and control.
:09:58. > :10:52.A handy 4-point lead early in this second game.
:10:53. > :10:59.Some very close calls early in the second game. That one going long,
:11:00. > :11:13.definitely, and the back of the court. Good judgment by Koiukal.
:11:14. > :11:24.A couple of times, he has anticipated the server really well,
:11:25. > :11:29.Koiukal and started the attack of the return of serve. For some
:11:30. > :11:34.reason, Koiukal think the flick serve on the word go is going to
:11:35. > :11:38.catch out Ouseph but it hasn't been successful, you would think he would
:11:39. > :11:42.forget that and go back to serving short, bring the shuttle deeper into
:11:43. > :11:47.the court if he wants to get him off that central position. That angled
:11:48. > :11:52.shot from Koiukal -- Ouseph has worked a treat for him in this
:11:53. > :11:54.match. He has brought his opponent forward from the angle. Been very
:11:55. > :12:27.effective indeed. Nicely into the back
:12:28. > :12:38.forehand side of Ouseph. Not a bad way to bring up
:12:39. > :13:31.the mid-game interval. He shut it down beautifully
:13:32. > :13:44.into the open court. Rajiv Ouseph commanding the game,
:13:45. > :14:14.as he did in the first. That is a really good get
:14:15. > :14:22.front court from Koukal, midway through the rally,
:14:23. > :14:27.which kept him in it. Good judgment on the backline in the
:14:28. > :14:44.end. You can see where Ouseph is trying
:14:45. > :14:51.to take up the front court position. He is trying to dominate
:14:52. > :14:54.at the front of the court. He is directing Koukal
:14:55. > :15:03.around a little bit. If you look where his base is,
:15:04. > :15:06.he is looking to move forward. Really controlling from
:15:07. > :15:49.the front of the court. Not allowing his opponent to get
:15:50. > :15:54.the shuttle behind him. Moving nicely back to
:15:55. > :16:09.finish that shuttle. The shuttle drifting out
:16:10. > :16:12.the back again. Koukal is picking out a lot of his
:16:13. > :16:17.points when the shuttle drifts out, when Ouseph moves to the back
:16:18. > :16:20.of the court. He just needs to manage that lift
:16:21. > :16:30.a little more. He just can't get any momentum
:16:31. > :16:48.going in this second game. Errors have short circuited any
:16:49. > :16:51.challenge he has on Ouseph. A couple of errors and suddenly
:16:52. > :16:53.it is an eight-point spread and he's marching
:16:54. > :17:02.towards a straight-games victory. He did well to get his body
:17:03. > :17:28.out of the way, Koukal. He played that shot very
:17:29. > :19:34.effectively. He has played that very effectively.
:19:35. > :20:09.Still match points. Another one saved.
:20:10. > :20:38.13th seed with a confidence-building win in straight games.
:20:39. > :20:49.Koukal signalling his support to the crowd.
:20:50. > :20:52.Overall, there was a little hiccup in the second game by the British
:20:53. > :20:56.player, but I think at his best there he was just a little bit too
:20:57. > :21:07.Yes, a great start for Great Britain's Rajiv Ouseph.
:21:08. > :21:09.Remember, that is his first group stage match, against Petr Koukal
:21:10. > :21:13.He's seeded 13th, as you have just heard, so he will be
:21:14. > :21:16.expected to reach the knockout stages.
:21:17. > :21:22.It is a bit of live hockey for you shortly.
:21:23. > :21:25.The women's competition is hotting up.
:21:26. > :21:28.GB already qualified for the knockout stages that get
:21:29. > :21:31.It is all about building momentum ahead of those matches.
:21:32. > :21:35.They want another one tonight, and perfect start!
:21:36. > :21:58.They didn't get too much power on that.
:21:59. > :22:04.No, she didn't pick up the ball how she would have wanted to have done.
:22:05. > :22:07.As she was trying to generate the power through her stick,
:22:08. > :22:10.it looks like she's rolled the stick over the top of the ball.
:22:11. > :22:21.Great Britain still deep in Japanese territory.
:22:22. > :22:25.Good Japanese defence and they come clear.
:22:26. > :22:35.What they are trying to do is roll the ball along the stick.
:22:36. > :22:45.She couldn't generate the power she would have wanted.
:22:46. > :22:52.First period, 4.5 minutes to play, with four 15-minute quarters.
:22:53. > :22:56.They will change ends at the end of the first half and not
:22:57. > :23:25.She's got herself to the edge of the circle.
:23:26. > :23:30.Looking for Sophie Bray, but couldn't get anywhere
:23:31. > :23:34.It is a fantastic opportunity for Great Britain there.
:23:35. > :23:37.She just couldn't get the ball in a position to pass to either
:23:38. > :23:52.A crescendo of noise from their supporters.
:23:53. > :24:11.I tell you what, Sam gets a little touch on that.
:24:12. > :24:16.Had she not done so, it would certainly have gone goalwards.
:24:17. > :24:20.I can't say if it would have ended up in the back of the net or not,
:24:21. > :24:24.but it is really important that GB concentrate.
:24:25. > :24:33.Moves it into some space and then Townsend joins in to try
:24:34. > :24:54.The GB girls are getting short running with the ball.
:24:55. > :25:25.I don't think she could decide whether to release
:25:26. > :25:39.As she released, McCallin had gone inside.
:25:40. > :25:47.Bouncing ball dealt with calmly by Kate Richardson-Walsh.
:25:48. > :25:50.A nice touch and flick from McCallin, setting off
:25:51. > :26:18.Good work from her but her team-mates unable to
:26:19. > :26:27.You need skill to lift the ball over the Japanese stick.
:26:28. > :26:32.At moments during this half Japan have literally sat 5-10 yards
:26:33. > :26:37.over their 25-yard line so it will be crucial for Great Britain
:26:38. > :26:51.that they keep the ball moving when the opportunity is there.
:26:52. > :27:02.Seconds left on the clock before the hooter.
:27:03. > :27:08.They are just easing off until the hooter sounds.
:27:09. > :27:10.One goal in the quarter to Great Britain.

:27:30. > :27:38.They beat Great Britain earlier this evening in a devastating display.
:27:39. > :27:41.Their first Olympic medal in any sport.
:27:42. > :27:49.They will be celebrating on the streets of Suva.
:27:50. > :27:54.For Team GB, silver is a decent achievement.
:27:55. > :28:11.The Fijians celebrated after winning the gold medal.
:28:12. > :28:36.Let us go back to Great Britain against Japan.
:28:37. > :29:00.Came off a Japanese stick into the back for the goal.

:29:30. > :29:39.Their best result in these Games has been their draw with India
:29:40. > :29:42.and they were beaten 4-0 by Argentina and 6-1 by the USA.
:29:43. > :29:45.After this match, Great Britain's final pool match will be against
:29:46. > :29:50.Great Britain, top of their table at the moment and that is where
:29:51. > :29:54.They are already guaranteed qualification for the
:29:55. > :30:05.It is also important with the new format that you finish
:30:06. > :30:09.If you lose in the quarterfinals, you basically get ranked
:30:10. > :30:14.If you finish top, chances are you're going to finish fifth
:30:15. > :30:19.Whoever finishes top of Pool B, and that could be Great Britain,
:30:20. > :30:25.will play the fourth-placed side from Pool A,
:30:26. > :30:35.That is looking like either China or Spain.
:30:36. > :30:44.If Great Britain finishes second, it could be Germany or New Zealand.
:30:45. > :31:04.Taken out of play by Kate Richardson-Walsh.
:31:05. > :31:14.Through some British legs and it is bobbling around.
:31:15. > :31:19.Japan win a penalty corner off a Great Britain foot.
:31:20. > :31:38.Good stepping up by Richardson-Walsh.
:31:39. > :31:40.She couldn't quite get it under control.
:31:41. > :31:42.You could see it bobbling around Giselle Ansley's feet.
:31:43. > :31:44.No complaints from the British defence, getting
:31:45. > :31:48.This has been Japan's biggest threat in the tournament so far.
:31:49. > :31:52.Two of those goals have come from penalty corners.
:31:53. > :32:13.I think it was Nakashima on this far post.
:32:14. > :32:21.Helen Richardson-Walsh gets a brilliant touch.
:32:22. > :32:27.As a result, it comes off the Japanese stick for a British 16.

:33:16. > :33:19.UMPIRE: They are looking for a penalty point...
:33:20. > :33:21.The video umpire is being consulted over a Japanese claim

:33:33. > :33:37.They are asking for the penalty corner.
:33:38. > :33:42.It would be much better if you could see it from behind.
:33:43. > :33:46.We know the umpires have got different camera angles.
:33:47. > :33:49.It could come back that there is no advice possible
:33:50. > :34:26.I don't understand why Japan have lost their video referral.
:34:27. > :34:29.I understand what Carol is saying, it was not five, therefore
:34:30. > :34:32.not a penalty corner, which I don't agree
:34:33. > :34:35.with because it is a professional foul, but I don't understand why
:34:36. > :34:39.Probably because she said, "We want a penalty corner".
:34:40. > :34:42.It's harsh because she is right, they were not five.
:34:43. > :34:46.These are grey areas which keep cropping up throughout
:34:47. > :34:53.The net result of that discussion is that there is no penalty corner

:34:56. > :35:03.If it is held up, you keep your referral
:35:04. > :35:17.GB looking for a quick break down the centre.
:35:18. > :35:22.Alex Danson sensibly holds it up, allows her team-mates

:36:32. > :36:35.Shona McCallin was running back to get into position.
:36:36. > :36:37.A second very good opportunity for Japan to register
:36:38. > :36:59.Unfortunate for Japan, the accuracy just wasn't there.
:37:00. > :37:11.Cullen, getting a huge deflection on the ball.
:37:12. > :37:22.Good team defence from the British team.
:37:23. > :37:24.Shona McCallin, whose foot it was which caused
:37:25. > :38:01.The ball has come up from Sophie Bray's stick into the body.
:38:02. > :38:05.You can't play advantage of a player's body.
:38:06. > :38:12.The upside of this from the British point of view is that Great Britain
:38:13. > :38:23.A tactic they used against India the other evening, with the way
:38:24. > :38:33.She held it up and opened the channel.
:38:34. > :38:35.Waiting are Crista Cullen and Kate Richardson-Walsh.
:38:36. > :38:45.Good save from Asano, the Japanese keeper.
:38:46. > :38:54.Two opportunities, one with Alex Danson, just
:38:55. > :38:56.above the penalty spot, a dive, and Georgie Twigg coming
:38:57. > :39:04.But great save, as you said, by Asano in goal.
:39:05. > :39:09.Japan doing well to limit the damage at the moment. A single goal, Japan
:39:10. > :39:11.0- one Great Britain. Eight and a half minutes
:39:12. > :39:13.until half-time. Unsworth looked despairingly
:39:14. > :39:19.towards Sam Quek. Shimuzi, coming in, hits
:39:20. > :39:45.Laura Unsworth's foot. She sets her up and commits her,
:39:46. > :39:47.then pulls the ball If Japan score, you cannot argue
:39:48. > :39:58.with it, they have had three Their options this time, lining up,
:39:59. > :40:06.maybe to attempt the drag-flick. Good combination in defence
:40:07. > :40:34.with the goalkeeper. It could have taken a deflection
:40:35. > :40:42.off anyone's stick. Japan at the moment omnipresent in
:40:43. > :40:50.this part of the field. Worrying times for Great Britain
:40:51. > :40:53.as they set about defending these She manages to get
:40:54. > :41:21.a big left glove to it. Japan come again
:41:22. > :41:24.down the left flank. Japan come again down
:41:25. > :41:26.the right flank. Scampering to the edge
:41:27. > :41:37.of the circle. Georgie Twigg stepping forward
:41:38. > :41:41.and then having to withdraw. Japan, once again,
:41:42. > :41:44.to the shooting zone. Behind and the period of attack
:41:45. > :41:49.from the players in pink comes It's got a little bit scrappy
:41:50. > :42:09.from Great Britain at the moment. Gets the stick on the ball nicely
:42:10. > :42:20.but the delivery to Nicola White I think White there could have made
:42:21. > :42:28.that run a bit earlier and worked harder to get her
:42:29. > :42:34.feet facing infield. Her bodyweight was still moving
:42:35. > :42:38.towards the sideline Quek's aerial trap goes backwards
:42:39. > :42:42.to Unsworth who has to slalom her She goes round one and looking
:42:43. > :43:08.for another, looking for service. And a missed
:43:09. > :43:27.trap by Georgie Twigg. Twigg thankful to see that
:43:28. > :43:36.on the end of her stick. Webb having to track
:43:37. > :43:40.back and defend now. Wonderful passage of play from Japan
:43:41. > :44:02.in the last 10 minutes. One thing that Great Britain
:44:03. > :44:06.are exceptionally good They will be disappointed to have
:44:07. > :44:09.conceded three penalty There is plenty to work on and I am
:44:10. > :44:16.sure Danny Kerry is already working The most important thing
:44:17. > :44:21.is the scoreline which is GB 1-0 A bit of a mismatch but Japan came
:44:22. > :44:52.out as the winners and cheered every step of the way as Yuri Nagai
:44:53. > :45:01.gets it up to halfway. Helen Richardson-Walsh
:45:02. > :45:22.there to try and help her out. It is tough when you have got
:45:23. > :45:29.someone in your team as quick as Townsend
:45:30. > :45:31.to try and offer support. All of the support was
:45:32. > :45:34.on the left-hand side of the field. To be fair, most of the team have
:45:35. > :45:39.got speed about them. It is only when you see the Japanese
:45:40. > :45:43.players trying to track back with those type of players
:45:44. > :45:45.you realise how quick Trying to find Bray
:45:46. > :46:00.inside her that time. Quickly taken by Kate
:46:01. > :46:09.Richardson-Walsh. Now Japan once again moving off
:46:10. > :46:12.towards the Great Britain circle It's come off Giselle
:46:13. > :46:34.Ansley as it crashed in. It was Ansley's stick
:46:35. > :46:37.into the back of Hinch's goal. Certainly Japanese sticks
:46:38. > :46:43.were in there, there It is Kate Richardson-Walsh
:46:44. > :46:53.that gets the touch There was a Japanese player
:46:54. > :47:03.waiting to get that touch. Close call for Great Britain
:47:04. > :47:06.in the last 90 seconds of the half. They have more work to do
:47:07. > :47:09.because the Japanese players once I am glad that Maddie
:47:10. > :47:26.Hinch heard the whistle So, looking for a GB
:47:27. > :47:43.foot in the circle. Obviously before that
:47:44. > :47:46.passage of play. Maddie Hinch heard the whistle
:47:47. > :47:50.blown. Sorry, it would be a goal,
:47:51. > :47:57.but GB have asked for the referral because
:47:58. > :47:59.Japan have lost theirs. So they are looking for a Japanese
:48:00. > :48:03.foot in the circle. I don't know what foot
:48:04. > :48:07.we are looking for. I am trying to work out
:48:08. > :48:11.who has referred it. There is no GB foot
:48:12. > :48:24.so keep the referral. So the whistle obviously has been
:48:25. > :48:27.blown before the shot We've had some sound problems
:48:28. > :48:40.throughout the tournament with the microphones and audio
:48:41. > :48:47.from umpires and video Sometimes it is not as crystal
:48:48. > :48:59.clear as it might be. With 38 seconds to go,
:49:00. > :49:02.the clock has stopped and another It is a penalty corner and GB
:49:03. > :49:27.lose their referral. GB players didn't
:49:28. > :49:33.move the five metres. Kate Richardson-Walsh is not happy
:49:34. > :49:35.with that at all. She is doing what you want her
:49:36. > :49:40.to do, getting the team back behind the goal and putting
:49:41. > :49:42.the defending kit on. It is so important that the five of
:49:43. > :49:49.them back there really concentrate. Japan with an opportunity ahead
:49:50. > :49:57.if they can put this away. Scrambling back with Nagai trying
:49:58. > :50:14.to create something else. Townsend down on her
:50:15. > :50:27.backside, unfortunately, Japan will probably run out of time
:50:28. > :50:35.before they can get down It will end with a scoreline
:50:36. > :50:51.of Japan 0-1 Great Britain. By no means the dominant half
:50:52. > :50:54.of hockey that Great Britain Japan have had a lot of solid
:50:55. > :51:08.attacking moments as well. They are are separated
:51:09. > :51:10.by a single goal here. It is all going very
:51:11. > :51:12.well for Great Britain's We will be back with Matt and Mel
:51:13. > :51:18.very shortly for the second half, but let's bring you right up-to-date
:51:19. > :51:24.with tonight's headlines. Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes
:51:25. > :51:27.and Callum Skinner sped around the cycling Velodrome to ensure that
:51:28. > :51:31.Great Britain's men team sprint struck gold for the third
:51:32. > :51:37.consecutive Olympics. Great Britain win silver
:51:38. > :51:41.after losing 43-7 to the dancing Rower Katherine Grainger became
:51:42. > :51:50.Great Britain's most decorated female athlete when picking up a
:51:51. > :51:54.silver along with Victoria Thornley And there was also a medal for
:51:55. > :52:06.David Florence and Richard Hounslow who won silver in the canoe slalom
:52:07. > :52:10.for the second This is how we are
:52:11. > :52:21.lining up tonight. If you want to stay with us,
:52:22. > :52:24.then we will be back Then we have the men's gold
:52:25. > :52:30.medal table tennis match We are expecting big GB cheers
:52:31. > :52:42.for Chloe Tutton and Molly Renshaw. That is where we are
:52:43. > :52:59.heading right now. Let's go to the Olympic Aquatics
:53:00. > :53:01.Stadium. Rio gets hot but plenty of cool air
:53:02. > :53:04.in this sparkling venue, as you can see, thanks to -
:53:05. > :53:08.how about this - 15,000 tiny holes that have been drilled into this
:53:09. > :53:10.structure, which means there is no hot air from our
:53:11. > :53:14.wonderful swimming team. You say that, it is
:53:15. > :53:21.a matter of opinion. Mark Foster, Olympic medallist
:53:22. > :53:27.and five-time Olympian. Let's look ahead to tonight's
:53:28. > :53:29.swimming. It is a night of big
:53:30. > :53:38.names and British hopes, isn't it, but first of all,
:53:39. > :53:41.let's talk us through the big names because when it comes to swimming,
:53:42. > :53:44.they are the biggest names, right? The Michael Phelpses
:53:45. > :53:48.and Ryan Lochtes are the biggest. They haven't lost the world record
:53:49. > :53:53.since 2003 between the two of them. In the 400 IM, certainly Max
:53:54. > :54:00.could get in there and ruin We've had real fights
:54:01. > :54:03.in the pool this week, but tonight will be
:54:04. > :54:07.one of the big fights. Dan Wallace is in the 200
:54:08. > :54:17.IM for Britain. I think there is an opportunity
:54:18. > :54:20.at a bronze medal for the Brazilian. Lochte has not swum that good
:54:21. > :54:23.or looked that good. As Sharron has said it has been them
:54:24. > :54:30.on top of the podium for the last 11 years and it has
:54:31. > :54:36.come down immensely. After these Olympics Phelps, Lochte
:54:37. > :54:41.are old and will be out of the way. Dan Wallace has an
:54:42. > :54:44.opportunity moving on. I am looking forward to the noise
:54:45. > :54:46.in here today. The Phelps show will
:54:47. > :54:55.certainly come out. Whenever Michael Phelps,
:54:56. > :54:56.justifiably people want to celebrate the greatest Olympian
:54:57. > :55:00.of all time, more photographers He has been tweeting
:55:01. > :55:11.pictures of his preparation. Looks friendly there but there
:55:12. > :55:15.will be a battle later on. What is interesting is those
:55:16. > :55:20.boys are not stopping Normally they have to queue up,
:55:21. > :55:25.but Michael has just been running through on his way to the ice bath
:55:26. > :55:29.and on his way because now he's a bit older, it is even
:55:30. > :55:32.more important, really. Chloe Tutton and Molly Renshaw in
:55:33. > :55:47.the 200 meter breaststroke final. Some very strange races
:55:48. > :55:57.from the Russian. Molly broke the British
:55:58. > :56:03.record which Chloe held. For a young lady
:56:04. > :56:05.who only burst on to the international scene this year,
:56:06. > :56:09.she is incredibly controlled. They both looked very
:56:10. > :56:20.good through the rounds. If they get the turns right this
:56:21. > :56:26.evening, because turns are important and we have seen
:56:27. > :56:28.the importance of touches... Pedersen sits between
:56:29. > :56:32.them, she is solid. If they can do their own
:56:33. > :56:34.thing on the outside, they could potentially
:56:35. > :56:40.get some medals. There is a good chance
:56:41. > :57:10.they could make the final. We are going to look
:57:11. > :57:13.forward to that. Every member of that team
:57:14. > :57:15.is looking strong. We used to have traditionally
:57:16. > :57:17.a bit of a weakness. You are still buzzing
:57:18. > :57:23.from the semifinals today. Sadly, I think it will be a silver
:57:24. > :57:31.medal but to go away with two silver If people wake up, the first race,
:57:32. > :57:41.the fastest man on the planet, it is the semifinal tonight
:57:42. > :57:44.but Ben Proud, over the past couple of years, he has grown
:57:45. > :57:47.in stature and size, and he can hang with the big boys
:57:48. > :57:52.and he is very quick. The fastest guys, it will be
:57:53. > :58:00.like skating across a pond. I don't know how you see those last
:58:01. > :58:04.three strokes because It is going to be so,
:58:05. > :58:12.so loud in here. Brazilians, Michael Phelps,
:58:13. > :58:15.Ryan Lochte. We would love to see
:58:16. > :58:32.what you would do to stay awake. Staying with us through to
:58:33. > :58:36.the early hours. If it is coffee, whatever works
:58:37. > :58:39.for you, show us on Twitter. Not only the hash tag,
:58:40. > :58:59.but what about also using #getinspired is our
:59:00. > :59:01.campaign to get inspired. It is on the BBC Sport website
:59:02. > :59:04.and you can find inspirational stories from people just
:59:05. > :59:07.like you as well as hints, tips and over 70 practical guides
:59:08. > :59:10.to help you give something a go. There is also an activity finder
:59:11. > :59:13.to help you find something You can tell us how you are getting
:59:14. > :59:18.on, ask us questions to our social media accounts on Twitter
:59:19. > :59:21.and Facebook and maybe you can inspire someone else
:59:22. > :59:23.to give something a try. So now we are passing the baton
:59:24. > :59:26.over to you. Let us take you back
:59:27. > :59:41.to the Olympic Hockey Centre. Great Britain lead Japan
:59:42. > :00:01.by one goal. It just feels at the moment
:00:02. > :00:04.that the likes of Hollie Webb, Georgie Twigg, Shona McCallin,
:00:05. > :00:06.and to an extent, Laura Unsworth, when they play in these positions,
:00:07. > :00:08.their natural instinct at the moment when they have
:00:09. > :00:11.got the ball is to look They have got to have the composure
:00:12. > :00:16.and the peace of mind to know that if they get the ball
:00:17. > :00:18.going forwards, that is where your Japan, threatening,
:00:19. > :00:32.to the edge of the circle, I think Great Britain are possibly
:00:33. > :00:45.lucky there wasn't more to that. Arm in the back, as she is in
:00:46. > :00:54.the act of shooting. You can see here, she digs the ball
:00:55. > :01:12.over Crista Cullen really well, it's been cut off,
:01:13. > :01:15.but a big shove in the back Probably fortunate it was a
:01:16. > :01:17.penalty corner. It came close.
:01:18. > :01:25.They will get another one. The ball up from Maddie Hinch's
:01:26. > :01:28.glove has gone into the danger area. The question has come
:01:29. > :01:31.in about the height of the ball. There is nothing wrong
:01:32. > :01:33.with that at all. It was going to hit the backboard
:01:34. > :01:37.but it is the height of the ball It has to be the height
:01:38. > :01:42.of the backboard and it is a rule If you hit it like that,
:01:43. > :01:50.and it hits the backboard, Defensive courage
:01:51. > :01:57.from Crista Cullen. We have seen that throughout
:01:58. > :02:00.the tournament. She is right there,
:02:01. > :02:13.climbing all over it. It can be dangerous at times
:02:14. > :02:16.but that one, she took in Townsend is pushing,
:02:17. > :02:30.getting to the edge of the circle. One of the Japanese players took
:02:31. > :02:35.a real bang. Ono, down on the deck
:02:36. > :02:39.and she is in some distress. Great Britain and Japanese
:02:40. > :02:42.players surrounding her. The stick from Townsend,
:02:43. > :02:58.she breaks through the line. it's come up and hit
:02:59. > :03:02.her in the mouth. Thankfully, Ono is back on her feet
:03:03. > :03:07.and will be helped from the field It goes back to Ansley and then back
:03:08. > :03:35.to Richardson-Walsh. Lily Owsley unable to control
:03:36. > :03:46.and Japan will attempt to move forward to the other end
:03:47. > :03:55.of the field. Bouncing between Quek
:03:56. > :04:05.and the Japanese player. Watching them last night
:04:06. > :04:16.when they lost 6-1 to the USA, who have been the team
:04:17. > :04:18.of the tournament so far, they have certainly come out
:04:19. > :04:20.after that disappointment, and they are giving Great Britain
:04:21. > :04:25.a good run for their money. In fact, she left it
:04:26. > :04:46.for Georgie Twigg. Great Britain are running into flat
:04:47. > :05:04.sticks at the moment. Sophie Bray's little effort
:05:05. > :05:07.with the upright reverse shot, she managed to get the ball up
:05:08. > :05:09.in the air. But the basic skill levels
:05:10. > :05:12.of the British team have not been Another Japan break down the right
:05:13. > :05:20.but it will be Giselle Ansley with the luxury of a bit of time
:05:21. > :05:24.and the chance to restart. Will she go overhead
:05:25. > :05:26.for this one? White was left standing
:05:27. > :05:35.and staring because the ball Susannah Townsend
:05:36. > :05:38.takes another one out. She is doing some damage
:05:39. > :05:43.here tonight, Townsend. I'm not sure where she is supposed
:05:44. > :05:47.to go, to be honest. She knocked the ball past
:05:48. > :05:50.the Japanese player. It looks worse than it probably
:05:51. > :07:26.was but Townsend was travelling Unsworth looking for a more positive
:07:27. > :07:33.move. Nichola White, aimed for Alex Danson. It finds her. Danson has not
:07:34. > :07:37.been allowed the freedom to move by the Japanese players. Every time she
:07:38. > :07:44.has got a stick on the ball, there is someone there to deal with the
:07:45. > :07:53.threat. Danny Kerry looks a bit uncomfortable. A little?
:07:54. > :07:58.It is interesting for me because the instinct of the players when they
:07:59. > :08:04.first get the ball is to run with it. At times, there are players free
:08:05. > :08:07.or in better positions. It is just not clicking for the girls tonight.
:08:08. > :08:15.Lily Owsley, can she create something? A bounce and a flick and
:08:16. > :08:21.they juggle with the ball. -- is juggle. Will Georgie Twigg go
:08:22. > :08:26.forward? The last couple of times she has been in this position, she
:08:27. > :08:31.has gone backwards. She find Sam Quek, who sends it to Giselle
:08:32. > :08:32.Ansley. Great pick up from lawns at -- from Unsworth. Clever from
:08:33. > :08:33.Unsworth. It is the speed of the ball
:08:34. > :08:36.from Ansley out to Unsworth The Japanese forward didn't quite
:08:37. > :08:48.get her line right and she found Great Britain back to
:08:49. > :09:00.defend once again. Owsley goes past the Japanese
:09:01. > :09:30.defender and takes Rather than chasing her down
:09:31. > :09:46.the line, Nishimuri changed the angle in which she ran
:09:47. > :09:49.towards her own circle first by one or two yards,
:09:50. > :09:51.which meant she could get Two and a half minutes until the end
:09:52. > :10:02.of the third quarter and they are still separated
:10:03. > :10:05.by the single goal. Slowly but surely,
:10:06. > :10:35.Great Britain gaining ground Owsley pushed off the ball,
:10:36. > :10:48.claiming it was unfairly done. A little push forward
:10:49. > :11:37.from Georgie Twigg. He is really one frustrated man
:11:38. > :11:39.tonight, I wonder how many more times we are going to
:11:40. > :11:45.see him on the screen? Cullen with lots of time
:11:46. > :11:47.and space on the left. A miss by Georgie Twigg,
:11:48. > :11:55.just in front of her. The last 30 seconds
:11:56. > :12:01.of the third quarter. That will be the final move
:12:02. > :12:26.of the third period. The end of the third quarter,
:12:27. > :12:34.Japan 0-1 Great Britain. We will be back for
:12:35. > :12:38.the final quarter shortly. Remember, just after 3am
:12:39. > :12:41.we could see Michael Phelps He's got his game face
:12:42. > :12:48.on and so have these Hi.
:12:49. > :12:53.My name is Tamara. This is my impersonation
:12:54. > :13:07.of Michael Phelps' game face. I am Fabrice from Brazil and this
:13:08. > :13:14.is my Michael Phelps game face. I am Brinn Bevan, a Team GB
:13:15. > :13:17.gymnast and this is my I am Tamirez from Brazil and this
:13:18. > :13:30.is my Michael Phelps game face. I am Athens from the USA and this
:13:31. > :13:33.is my Michael Phelps face. My name is Kieran, I'm from the UK
:13:34. > :13:43.and this is my Michael Many things I never thought
:13:44. > :13:50.I would do on live television like saying it is a great night
:13:51. > :13:53.for Egyptian handball. The editor wants me to do my
:13:54. > :13:55.Michael Phelps face. We will show you what happened
:13:56. > :14:03.in the bronze-medal match Let's have our serious
:14:04. > :14:14.game face on here. Vladimir Samsonov has been beaten
:14:15. > :14:21.and the winner looks remarkably Also, if you fancy a bit
:14:22. > :14:29.of badminton this evening, this is Scotland's Kirstie Gilmour
:14:30. > :14:31.taking on the Swiss player, Jacquet. That is available
:14:32. > :14:33.on BBC Sport online. Game face on, back
:14:34. > :14:38.for the live hockey. COMMENTATOR: Final
:14:39. > :14:40.quarter under way. Great Britain desperate
:14:41. > :14:49.for another goal. Shutting everything down
:14:50. > :14:52.and closing the options. Oh, no-one able to get a shot
:14:53. > :15:08.on the ball. It is scored by Helen
:15:09. > :15:12.Richardson-Walsh! Not the most spectacular
:15:13. > :15:16.goal you will ever see, but they all count and
:15:17. > :15:18.Helen Richardson-Walsh Sophie Bray does well
:15:19. > :15:28.here and rolls the ball back. I think we may be getting an umpire
:15:29. > :15:31.referral while we watch this. Fantastic stepping up by Shona
:15:32. > :15:34.McCallin. Helen Richardson-Walsh,
:15:35. > :15:38.there is nothing wrong with that. Well, in my opinion,
:15:39. > :15:39.there is absolutely Helen Richardson-Walsh is a keen
:15:40. > :15:43.cricketer so a bouncing ball is The umpire's video referral
:15:44. > :16:01.in play at the moment. Helen Richardson-Walsh at the moment
:16:02. > :16:04.credited with the goal, but They have decided the
:16:05. > :16:34.goal will not stand. Might be worth looking
:16:35. > :16:36.at that one again. They are saying it hit
:16:37. > :16:42.a GB body in the circle. Frustrating that we don't get to see
:16:43. > :16:45.what the video umpire is The match continues
:16:46. > :16:52.and the scoreline is unchanged. Townsend determined
:16:53. > :16:57.to do some damage. She fires that through and misses
:16:58. > :17:00.Braybury's stick and Japan I tell you what, that is
:17:01. > :17:14.an unbelievable spot by the umpire. There weren't any complaints
:17:15. > :17:18.from the GB players when the hit-out Back to Kate Richardson-Walsh,
:17:19. > :17:35.and now Unsworth. Unsworth doesn't
:17:36. > :17:37.want to go backwards. Just nudges it forwards
:17:38. > :17:45.to Hollie Webb. Just left hand on the stick and now
:17:46. > :17:54.she's in a marauding position. White all the way to the edge
:17:55. > :17:56.of the circle. White might go all the way
:17:57. > :17:59.back for Sophie Bray. At speed, you can see I think maybe
:18:00. > :18:09.the goal being disallowed has given GB the impetus that they needed,
:18:10. > :18:14.and it has come off Minami Shimizu making
:18:15. > :18:19.contact with the ball. Now the pads are going on to defend
:18:20. > :18:36.this penalty corner. So, Crista Cullen is up there,
:18:37. > :18:45.and Giselle Ainslie at well. If it is a hit rather than a flick,
:18:46. > :18:57.it wants to hit the back board when it reaches the net,
:18:58. > :19:01.and there was a clunk of ball on back board,
:19:02. > :19:06.so the goal is disallowed. Mistrap on top of the circle
:19:07. > :19:10.that was the problem, but Crista Cullen did well to adjust
:19:11. > :19:14.to then get the hit away. Helen Richardson-Walsh
:19:15. > :19:21.getting stuck in. I think the umpire is
:19:22. > :19:25.going for a card here. We've had a couple of those this
:19:26. > :19:37.evening and both teams It is a mistrap there and Cullen
:19:38. > :19:41.hits off the back foot and, as you say, it is the height
:19:42. > :19:45.of the ball that goes over the goal line that has to be
:19:46. > :19:47.at back board height. It will be a long night for him,
:19:48. > :19:50.won't it, to be honest, if the score stays the same,
:19:51. > :19:53.they need to win this game. If it stays the same,
:19:54. > :19:57.they have got three points on the board and if they beat USA
:19:58. > :20:01.they finish top of the pool. Just under 12 minutes

:20:09. > :20:25.at the moment with Lily Owsley on the bench for another
:20:26. > :20:34.60 seconds or so. Maybe Great Britain's quest will be
:20:35. > :20:39.buoyed by some noise And a minimum of five minutes
:20:40. > :25:50.in the sin bin for that tackle. Tucked in, penalty
:25:51. > :25:51.corner, Great Britain. Absolutely fantastic break by Helen
:25:52. > :25:55.Richardson-Walsh. One of the hardest players
:25:56. > :25:58.to actually get the ball off. Alex Danson there with
:25:59. > :26:01.the gather and spin. I would like to see Great Britain go
:26:02. > :26:08.with it again. The tips and touches,
:26:09. > :26:11.that's what seems to be most Japan still have a player
:26:12. > :26:18.in the sin bin. Crista Cullen and Kate
:26:19. > :26:20.Richardson-Walsh lining up Hannah Macleod will inject
:26:21. > :26:33.for Great Britain. Finished off beautifully
:26:34. > :26:45.from height by Nicola White. Andy Murray would be proud
:26:46. > :26:51.of that finish. Asano makes the save of the left
:26:52. > :27:07.kicker but Nicola White, she plays the ball down
:27:08. > :27:11.into the ground. So often in this situation,
:27:12. > :27:13.you see strikers trying to put She plays it down into
:27:14. > :27:17.the turf and up it comes. A collective sigh of relief
:27:18. > :27:31.from the British camp all around Alex Danson has a look around
:27:32. > :27:47.before she makes contact. Suddenly there is a spring
:27:48. > :27:57.in the step of the British players. Alex Danson, lifting the ball over

:28:08. > :28:12.well enough to deflect Goals from Lily Owsley
:28:13. > :28:41.and Nicola White. Helen Richardson-Walsh
:28:42. > :28:58.shoots, it is saved. She's got the bit between her teeth
:28:59. > :29:01.at the moment, hasn't she, She comes in here,
:29:02. > :29:04.the ball is cleared. It is brave defending
:29:05. > :29:10.from the Japanese. Certainly didn't help,

:30:31. > :30:42.leading Japan by two goals, and they have already
:30:43. > :30:44.qualified for the quarterfinals. Not a vintage performance this
:30:45. > :30:48.evening, but certainly enough If you want to continue
:30:49. > :30:54.watching this match, press your Red Button right now,
:30:55. > :30:57.because we will start our build-up Press red now if you want
:30:58. > :31:07.to continue watching the hockey. Now we are going swimming,
:31:08. > :31:12.and Helen Skelton. I am ready and you are ready,
:31:13. > :31:17.but is he ready? I wonder whether we have here
:31:18. > :31:40.somebody who is going to replace Can Michael Phelps go eight
:31:41. > :31:55.golds in eight days? He is trying to set Olympic history
:31:56. > :32:00.and swimming history. Eight days, eight gold medals,
:32:01. > :32:10.Michael Phelps is the greatest. The biggest Olympic
:32:11. > :32:21.medallist in history. Swimming legend Michael Phelps
:32:22. > :32:38.is coming out of retirement. US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps
:32:39. > :32:41.has been arrested for... He will not be allowed to represent
:32:42. > :32:46.the United States... He might only be human,
:32:47. > :33:08.but he is definitely But Ryan Lochte, arguably the most
:33:09. > :33:20.successful Olympic swimmer We were talking earlier,
:33:21. > :33:37.Lochte has won all the World Championships, Michael Phelps has
:33:38. > :33:39.won the past two Olympic Games. It's kind of like those two have
:33:40. > :33:42.dominated this event for so, so long and we saw some Japanese
:33:43. > :33:46.fans earlier, they were in such belief that their boy
:33:47. > :33:48.was going to do it, Obviously, he got the gold
:33:49. > :33:55.in the 400m, so it'll be interesting, but you can't shy away
:33:56. > :33:58.from the fact that everyone thinks We've said all week how excitable
:33:59. > :34:08.the crowd are. Brazilians love their sport
:34:09. > :34:18.but they love their own. It goes absolutely crazy in here
:34:19. > :34:22.every time a Brazilian comes out. I think Michael Phelps gets
:34:23. > :34:25.nearly as big a cheer. They really do get
:34:26. > :34:31.into it. However their athletes
:34:32. > :34:36.are doing, they support them. When a Brazilian comes out
:34:37. > :34:41.it is cheers and excitement, but when Phelps comes out
:34:42. > :34:46.it is like he is a super freak. He does totally love it and plays up
:34:47. > :34:53.to it as well. Remember that the Japanese
:34:54. > :35:15.Hagino woas going to be Remember that the Japanese
:35:16. > :35:17.Hagino was going to be He is 10 years younger
:35:18. > :35:20.and he potentially could Don't forget that Dan Wallace
:35:21. > :35:26.is in there too from Great Britain. He would love, love
:35:27. > :35:30.to beat Michael Phelps. COMMENTATOR: There is the defending
:35:31. > :35:32.Olympic champion on this 50m free. Watch the speed Arian
:35:33. > :35:39.takes his stuff off. Everyone else is ready to go
:35:40. > :35:42.and is behind their box. Nathan Adrian is still
:35:43. > :35:46.with his kit on. Just getting his
:35:47. > :36:06.tracksuit bottoms off. Manaudou, the defending
:36:07. > :36:08.champion next to him. The French team lost
:36:09. > :36:19.to the American team the other He had a sulky face on all the way
:36:20. > :36:24.through the medal ceremony. You come here thinking
:36:25. > :36:28.you are going to win. So fastest men on
:36:29. > :36:30.the planet in water. First semifinal in the men's
:36:31. > :36:42.50 metre freestyle. If the Japanese swimmer makes
:36:43. > :36:45.the final I will be astonished, the defending Olympic
:36:46. > :37:08.champion from France. He goes through the rounds
:37:09. > :37:12.and gets faster and faster. The fastest heat he's
:37:13. > :37:18.had for a long time. Certainly fastest in
:37:19. > :37:20.the Olympics and the Worlds. I thought he was going
:37:21. > :37:24.to finish with his right arm He won it by 0.15s
:37:25. > :37:29.and that is a lot. Straight arm, very
:37:30. > :37:41.powerful off the block. Straight off.
:37:42. > :37:49.Look at that. His arms and legs were
:37:50. > :37:52.all over the place. Straight arm of Manaudou
:37:53. > :37:54.in the middle. You can just about make him out
:37:55. > :37:56.in the splash. He took a short grab
:37:57. > :37:59.there with his left arm. Just punching in to make sure
:38:00. > :38:02.he got that victory, I don't think he wants to be that
:38:03. > :38:09.indecisive in the final, does he? Maybe they are having
:38:10. > :38:14.an arm wrestle. That is exactly the same
:38:15. > :38:29.time he won the World That means Ben Proud has a chance
:38:30. > :38:41.of making the final now. We have got the second semifinal
:38:42. > :38:44.coming up in a moment. Just to confirm if you were watching
:38:45. > :38:48.the hockey before the swimming, Great Britain were taking on Japan
:38:49. > :38:51.and they won that match 2-0. Some of them came to see
:38:52. > :38:55.us the other night. We said it is an excited
:38:56. > :39:03.crowd, an expectant crowd and I think your neighbours
:39:04. > :39:06.in the Brazilian box are going to get excited
:39:07. > :39:09.because next up in the second semifinal, not only Britain's Ben
:39:10. > :39:12.Proud but one of the Brazilian They leaned over and had
:39:13. > :39:30.a smile at us and said, "Was it you that split on us
:39:31. > :39:33.for talking during the session?" The Brazilian tennis
:39:34. > :39:39.player is here as well, We asked him to take
:39:40. > :39:47.a picture of us. Matthew McConaghey might
:39:48. > :39:58.be back in tonight. I think he will play
:39:59. > :40:04.Michael Phelps in a biopic. I reckon he is here to get ready
:40:05. > :40:06.for that, you know. Were you?
:40:07. > :40:12.OK. Nathan Adrian and Manaudou,
:40:13. > :40:25.they were very, very quick, but after that there was a drop-off
:40:26. > :40:28.so hopefully Ben can sneak in after them and make
:40:29. > :40:30.that final tomorrow. What do you make of Nathan Adrian's
:40:31. > :40:34.mind games at the start? I don't think it is
:40:35. > :40:37.mind games at all. The thing is you come
:40:38. > :40:40.out last in Lane 4. You don't get
:40:41. > :40:43.much time to get ready. Lane 1 and 8 have been
:40:44. > :40:46.out there for ages. He can't take 10 minutes
:40:47. > :40:52.clearly, but take your time I don't think it was mind
:40:53. > :40:57.games, but more he was If it concentrates on himself, he
:40:58. > :41:23.will make the final tonight. Just you wait until that 200 metre
:41:24. > :41:26.individual medley later on featuring COMMENTATOR: I think
:41:27. > :41:33.you said go, Helen. It is fascinating because they put
:41:34. > :41:52.the slowest out one One of the Brazilians is already
:41:53. > :41:57.standing by his block Here is Great Britain's Ben Proud,
:41:58. > :42:01.the British record holder With a 21.88 from the first
:42:02. > :42:06.semi, as fourth fastest, he's got a super chance
:42:07. > :42:08.of making this final. McEvoy very low-key
:42:09. > :42:14.for a 50 sprinter. He was also brilliant
:42:15. > :42:22.to about 35-40 metres, He is 35 and won this race
:42:23. > :42:33.in the 2000 Olympics He's qualified second fastest
:42:34. > :42:42.because this guy was awfully quick, set a new Ukrainian record,
:42:43. > :42:48.a new lifetime best. If Proud can go under
:42:49. > :43:04.21.9, I would say he's He just took off his
:43:05. > :43:09.tracksuit bottoms. He's still got his T-shirt
:43:10. > :43:13.on and taking his time. There is some sort of football-style
:43:14. > :43:28.chant they all do and There is Anthony Ervin,
:43:29. > :43:33.the Olympic champion from Sydney. He decided to sell his medal
:43:34. > :43:44.for charity from the Olympic Games. One at the top and the
:43:45. > :43:55.other down in seven. Second semifinal of
:43:56. > :44:03.the men's 50m freestyle. Proud, three from the
:44:04. > :44:10.bottom in the red hat. The best start of
:44:11. > :44:18.everyone in the field. In the heats this morning,
:44:19. > :44:24.he went well to 25 and then just seemed to get eaten
:44:25. > :44:27.by the other guys a little bit. He is going well.
:44:28. > :44:28.Still going well. Really important, this last
:44:29. > :44:32.10 metres for Proud. He finishes in third place.
:44:33. > :44:36.21.54. That is a massive
:44:37. > :44:38.new British record. A whole tenth of a second,
:44:39. > :44:41.but he's in the final and that is a fabulous
:44:42. > :44:43.swim for Ben Proud. GOvorov and Anthony Ervin
:44:44. > :44:52.tied for first place. Ervin has been here
:44:53. > :44:54.before but in the final. Fastest reaction in
:44:55. > :44:59.the field, Ben Proud. As we saw in the heats,
:45:00. > :45:08.him and McEvoy were slower Well, McEvoy, I don't know
:45:09. > :45:12.where he went in the end. Hit it right on the end
:45:13. > :45:19.of the stroke as well, didn't he? Hit it hard, right-hand
:45:20. > :45:32.side in the red hat. Well, fantastic, Anthony Ervin,
:45:33. > :45:45.could he, 16 years on, repeat? He's come here to do a simple job
:45:46. > :45:54.tonight and that is There are no medals tonight but he's
:45:55. > :45:59.done a terrific job. Govorov and Ervin and Proud
:46:00. > :46:05.will make the final. Fratus will make the final
:46:06. > :46:15.as well. The qualifiers for tomorrow night's
:46:16. > :46:21.final and the defending champion goes in fastest and quite a long way
:46:22. > :46:24.fastest as well. All of the work he was doing
:46:25. > :46:50.and he continued down He put his head down
:46:51. > :47:00.and did the job. We have said it all the way through,
:47:01. > :47:03.the time you want to be Ben, congratulations going into that
:47:04. > :47:13.final in fifth place British record or not,
:47:14. > :47:18.it is a ticket to the final. Tomorrow night will be
:47:19. > :47:24.when the race begins. My start wasn't as good
:47:25. > :47:26.as I hoped, again. I felt really good and composed
:47:27. > :47:33.throughout the swim. Do you stroke count
:47:34. > :47:37.the whole way up? It is completely different
:47:38. > :47:47.to swimming mid-season. I forgot to count,
:47:48. > :47:59.to be honest with you. All I was trying to think
:48:00. > :48:01.about was taking over I did my best and I think more
:48:02. > :48:05.to come tomorrow. That was Chloe in her first
:48:06. > :48:27.major individual final, She is right next to
:48:28. > :48:32.the world-record holder. Chloe Tutton will be in lane one,
:48:33. > :48:37.and Pedersen of Denmark, she will be sandwiched
:48:38. > :48:43.in between the Brits. It is a great position
:48:44. > :48:52.for her to be in. The Dane will be going
:48:53. > :48:54.for the victory here. With the headphones on,
:48:55. > :49:02.they will be trying to block it out. The new British record
:49:03. > :49:14.on this 200 breaststroke. She took Chloe Tutton's
:49:15. > :49:21.record by 0.01. Now a world-ranked number one this
:49:22. > :49:24.year, and if she does the time she set earlier this year,
:49:25. > :49:28.Rie Kaneto, I think she may Nobody has looked
:49:29. > :49:37.that special so far. I think Taylor McKeown pushed
:49:38. > :49:43.herself all the way. And as you say, Kaneto
:49:44. > :49:46.was a dip under. In lane number seven,
:49:47. > :49:58.Efimova of the Russian Federation. I would love to see Molly or Chloe
:49:59. > :50:09.get amongst the medals. This is going to be
:50:10. > :50:11.a fascinating race. Sometimes, the races are a bit
:50:12. > :50:14.slower, and if they are slower, pretty much everyone can get a medal
:50:15. > :50:17.in this field. Kaneto and Pedersen, possibly
:50:18. > :50:36.Efimova in that bright suit. The British at the top in lanes
:50:37. > :50:42.number one and three. The final of the women's 200 metres
:50:43. > :50:52.breaststroke in Rio 2016. Chloe Tutton and Molly Renshaw
:50:53. > :50:55.for Great Britain. Between them, the world-record
:50:56. > :50:59.holder. Pretty even down this
:51:00. > :51:02.first 25 metres. If anything, I would say
:51:03. > :51:08.Chloe Tutton has gone fastest. The dive was held,
:51:09. > :51:12.for me, a bit too long. Once she came through,
:51:13. > :51:21.a fantastic couple of strokes. Pedersen going, she will be
:51:22. > :51:24.turning first place. The race at the moment
:51:25. > :51:33.is to the left of your screen. Kaneto with the black, but Pedersen,
:51:34. > :51:44.she is going for the victory. Chloe Tutton, right to the top,
:51:45. > :51:54.she went quickly down that first 50. Being taken up in the centre by
:51:55. > :52:10.Kaneto. Going with them is Molly Renshaw,
:52:11. > :52:22.looking very good indeed. Both the British girls were slower
:52:23. > :52:25.than they were in the heats, Brilliant swimming
:52:26. > :52:31.from Chloe Tutton. Efimova swims very, very fast
:52:32. > :52:40.at the back end of the race. It is between Kaneto
:52:41. > :52:43.and Efimova for the gold medal. It would be great if Chloe Tutton
:52:44. > :52:47.can held on. She is just about in bronze-medal
:52:48. > :53:05.position. The gold medal is going
:53:06. > :53:11.to Rie Kaneto of Japan. Chloe Tutton has
:53:12. > :53:35.equalled her best time. 0.01 slower than the
:53:36. > :53:39.new British record. If she'd just gone
:53:40. > :53:44.a little bit faster. She looked like she had
:53:45. > :53:49.that bronze medal. 1.5 seconds faster than the rest
:53:50. > :54:09.of the field, Rie Kaneto. Renshaw with a red
:54:10. > :54:45.hat, coming in here. Brilliant experience
:54:46. > :54:52.for the British women. They would be delighted to be
:54:53. > :54:55.in the final having a shot, and goodness me, didn't
:54:56. > :54:58.they have a go? The new Olympic champion
:54:59. > :55:00.of the women's 200 metres I can see on your face you're
:55:01. > :55:31.disappointed. I think you both need
:55:32. > :55:44.to be extremely proud. My goal was to make the final,
:55:45. > :55:51.and I did that, If you had been more in the middle,
:55:52. > :56:06.you might have seen her? The disappointment was written
:56:07. > :56:18.all over Chloe Tutton's face. Coming into this, Chloe
:56:19. > :56:25.Tutton was a surprise. She surprised everyone by swimming
:56:26. > :56:29.so quickly and we thought she was the outside chance
:56:30. > :56:32.of getting a medal, But for both the girls,
:56:33. > :56:37.they should be proud. I'm pretty sure we have not seen
:56:38. > :56:41.the last of them. Brilliant at the European
:56:42. > :57:02.Championships. They looked good,
:57:03. > :57:11.they held their own. It is towards the end
:57:12. > :57:14.where they have to make A couple of those girls are older,
:57:15. > :57:18.and an ex-world record holder, If they continue doing
:57:19. > :57:29.what they are doing, they will be up there and there
:57:30. > :57:34.will be a smile on their face. Through the heats,
:57:35. > :57:35.through the semifinals, Chloe Tutton always said,
:57:36. > :57:38."I keep my blinkers on, I do my own How important was it to do that,
:57:39. > :57:46.and not get distracted? Particularly when you see
:57:47. > :57:52.who else is in the race. This week, across all sports,
:57:53. > :57:55.there has been a lot of talk about Efimova,
:57:56. > :57:57.and it is one of those, There has been so much
:57:58. > :58:04.speculation on Efimova. For them, coming fourth and sixth,
:58:05. > :58:10.it is a great achievement. Their minds don't seem to be
:58:11. > :58:41.in the right place. Because Rylov, the Russian,
:58:42. > :58:57.looked brilliant this morning. It is Larkin and Murphy,
:58:58. > :59:03.in five and six. The best time would
:59:04. > :59:14.be European record. He broke the European record
:59:15. > :59:20.this year in Moscow. He has been improving
:59:21. > :59:22.through the rounds very comfortably. Murphy is somebody who copes
:59:23. > :59:37.with the pressure well. He delivered the goods
:59:38. > :59:39.from the middle lane. With that gold medal under his belt,
:59:40. > :59:46.he is going to be quite confident. The USA won this the last
:59:47. > :00:04.five Olympics in a row. Irie, the silver
:00:05. > :00:22.medallist from London. The final of the men's
:00:23. > :00:24.200 metres backstroke. The best start was the
:00:25. > :00:41.German, close to us. Larkin, looks like he is
:00:42. > :00:44.working hard already. He did this in the semifinals
:00:45. > :00:55.and it was a bit disastrous. Not so disastrous,
:00:56. > :00:57.he qualified second fastest, so it was not that bad,
:00:58. > :01:01.but he did not come first. Under the water,
:01:02. > :01:08.came up quite early. What is a bit of a sign to me,
:01:09. > :01:19.the yellow hat, in the centre, he is really using his legs,
:01:20. > :01:21.flipping the water up You've got to drag them
:01:22. > :01:25.a little bit more. Not completely, but a bit
:01:26. > :01:27.more down the first 100. Starting to come
:01:28. > :01:29.through is Ryan Murphy. Has Mitch Larkin got
:01:30. > :01:42.anything to come back with? This shows whether the man has
:01:43. > :01:44.got the guts. The world champion
:01:45. > :01:54.from last year in Kazan. Murphy's team-mate from the
:01:55. > :01:56.University of California, Pebley. Unless Larkin can respond,
:01:57. > :02:04.Murphy has got this again. As long as he can hold
:02:05. > :02:18.on inside this last ten metres. USA will go six Olympic
:02:19. > :02:20.titles in a row. Gold in the 100, now
:02:21. > :02:35.gold in the 200 metres. Mitch Larkin finally gets
:02:36. > :02:37.a medal, and it is silver. Somebody who goes 1:53 will win it.
:02:38. > :02:46.The top three got 1:53. Hard to call but Ryan Murphy
:02:47. > :02:48.did a brilliant job. Mitch Larkin held off Rylov
:02:49. > :03:06.for the silver by 0.01s. We have got Larkin on the right,
:03:07. > :03:08.Rylov on the left. Ryan Murphy, a little glide,
:03:09. > :03:19.wasn't it? Gave him some hassle
:03:20. > :03:37.through but that was a super swim. Doesn't it show what
:03:38. > :03:39.difference a turn makes? They practise and
:03:40. > :03:42.practise and practise. The results of the men's
:03:43. > :03:50.200 metres backstroke. Ryan Murphy from the USA adds
:03:51. > :03:53.gold to the 100 gold. FInally, Larkin gets a medal,
:03:54. > :03:56.a silver and Rylov the bronze. We were speculating the other night
:03:57. > :04:02.whether he had fallen out with his girlfriend, Emily Seebohm,
:04:03. > :04:05.who is up in the next semifinals. She didn't have a great
:04:06. > :04:09.night the other night. He just had a great swim
:04:10. > :04:19.so maybe that'll rub off. We are rattling towards the 200
:04:20. > :04:37.metre individual medley because that features Michael Phelps,
:04:38. > :04:39.Ryan Lochte, our very own We're hoping that you'll stay
:04:40. > :04:44.with up with us and you should, because it will be absolutely
:04:45. > :04:45.crackers in there. We know that it is very early
:04:46. > :04:48.in the morning and perhaps you are up with a black
:04:49. > :04:51.coffee, a small baby. Let us know what you are doing
:04:52. > :04:56.to stay awake and enjoy Wow, Phil, those are the eyes
:04:57. > :05:00.of a man who has seen the sun rise The sport is on!
:05:01. > :05:16.I'll do this one. Not sleeping with one-week-old
:05:17. > :05:32.twins, Libby and Katie. I don't know what you mean,
:05:33. > :05:39.I don't know what you mean! Right, we appreciate that we are up
:05:40. > :05:42.in the early hours of the morning but you know what, it's
:05:43. > :05:44.worth staying up for. The world is watching
:05:45. > :05:46.Michael Phelps. He is carrying on his
:05:47. > :05:47.phenomenal story. The most successful Olympian
:05:48. > :05:50.of all time and he's moving things on to another level right
:05:51. > :05:52.here in Rio. It will be a real fight for him
:05:53. > :05:56.tonight so not just a case of him coming out and showboating
:05:57. > :05:58.and swanning about, it He will probably do that
:05:59. > :06:01.after the race, the showboating but it is just nice to have Michael
:06:02. > :06:04.Phelps back. He's had such a fantastic week
:06:05. > :06:06.and you can tell that he's Whereas before, he wasn't quite
:06:07. > :06:11.as tired so you can tell that he's older now and he can't recover
:06:12. > :06:19.as quickly. You've seen the bruises on the body
:06:20. > :06:22.with all of the cupping that he's doing so it will be interesting
:06:23. > :06:38.to see how he goes. He has the 200 metres
:06:39. > :06:40.butterfly tonight as well. They're only 20 minutes apart
:06:41. > :06:43.tonight so it will be interesting Britain's Dan Wallace
:06:44. > :06:47.going in that one and we're not He used to train with
:06:48. > :06:52.Ryan Lochte and he's sparred If not for Michael Phelps,
:06:53. > :06:57.for Dan Wallace. Now time for the first semifinal
:06:58. > :07:01.of the women's 200 metre backstroke. COMMENTATOR: The third
:07:02. > :07:04.fastest qualifier for this first semifinal is Yaxin Liu
:07:05. > :07:06.of China, the 17-year-old. Never made a major final,
:07:07. > :07:11.senior or junior but third into this Lisa Graf swum well in the heats
:07:12. > :07:18.as well, very well indeed. So these two, reasonably
:07:19. > :07:21.inexperienced on the And Hillary Caldwell,
:07:22. > :07:31.well, she's not. Commonwealth Games bronze medallist
:07:32. > :07:38.and World Championship finalist. If she goes her PB of 2:06.8,
:07:39. > :07:47.she'll certainly make the final. I'm thinking maybe Seebohm,
:07:48. > :07:49.and Caldwell dipping under 2:07. Graf, a really strong
:07:50. > :07:51.heat this morning. I think four of the top five
:07:52. > :07:59.in the world are coming So really got to get amongst it
:08:00. > :08:05.and if I was in this race, I would be going for
:08:06. > :08:07.first or second. Well, a backstroke race
:08:08. > :08:09.so I probably wouldn't To try to make the final,
:08:10. > :08:14.that's a good tactic. Try not to get seventh or eighth
:08:15. > :08:17.because that wouldn't work The first semifinal of the women's
:08:18. > :08:26.200 metres backstroke. Seebohm, the world champion,
:08:27. > :08:30.only in lane two, and after seventh place in the final in the 100 metres
:08:31. > :08:36.backstroke that she was meant to win, this will be an interesting
:08:37. > :08:47.show of form for her. The first semifinal of the women's
:08:48. > :08:50.200 metres backstroke and Seebohm will be up at the top of the picture
:08:51. > :08:54.in lane two on the right-hand side. Very good start indeed
:08:55. > :08:56.from Emily Seebohm, Gustafsdottir in seven in a really
:08:57. > :09:11.high position with the swimmers Didn't make much of
:09:12. > :09:16.a difference there, In lane two, Emily Seebohm,
:09:17. > :09:34.it doesn't look like she's holding It is a bit of a swimming phrase
:09:35. > :09:45.about holding the water but you have to make sure that you get hold of it
:09:46. > :09:49.and make sure that you pull your Leave your hand out there and then
:09:50. > :09:53.pull your body over and she doesn't She seems to be whizzing it
:09:54. > :10:00.through and Caldwell looks superb. And she's just half a second off
:10:01. > :10:08.Seebohm's Commonwealth She's actually going to be eighth
:10:09. > :10:24.at this rate in lane two. She has turned sixth
:10:25. > :10:27.but she looks awful. She really needs to come back up
:10:28. > :10:31.the top there, in the yellow hat. She's starting to move
:10:32. > :10:37.a little bit now is Seebohm. But well, Caldwell looks good
:10:38. > :10:39.and Seebohm looks horrible, Caldwell swimming well.
:10:40. > :10:42.She's going to win it, I think. Coming back is Liu,
:10:43. > :10:44.the 17-year-old from China. It will be interesting to see how
:10:45. > :10:49.they do here from what happens So Caldwell eased up a little bit
:10:50. > :10:53.and the Chinese in three Very, very impressive from Liu
:10:54. > :10:59.of China and that will mean that she will be in her first major
:11:00. > :11:02.finals, senior or junior. And I can tell you that
:11:03. > :11:06.Seebohm has come sixth. Well, the Canadians extremely happy
:11:07. > :11:09.with Caldwell's swim, Seebohm really disappointing
:11:10. > :11:18.and I would really like to know what's going on,
:11:19. > :11:20.what sort of year she's having. I say year - she was
:11:21. > :11:22.third fastest ranked Hosszu did a quick time
:11:23. > :11:29.in the heats this morning and that rocketed her to the top
:11:30. > :11:34.of the rankings but Seebohm, and Hocking, brilliant
:11:35. > :11:36.in the Australian trials but she's just not
:11:37. > :11:38.managing to deliver. In 2012, she was meant to win
:11:39. > :11:42.the 100 metres backstroke and had a bit of a shocker
:11:43. > :11:45.there on that one. And she blamed it on the fact
:11:46. > :11:48.that she got a little bit So a little bit of a weak
:11:49. > :11:52.excuse, I thought. She stayed up too late and was doing
:11:53. > :11:55.social media all the time, Twittering and tweeting and whatever
:11:56. > :11:57.else you do but here... and looked very good,
:11:58. > :12:13.as did Liu of China. Gustafsdottir of
:12:14. > :12:19.Iceland did well too. Yeah, the guys mentioned it
:12:20. > :12:22.there but we were talking Emily Seebohm blamed her lack
:12:23. > :12:28.of form in 2012 on social media. Interesting to see,
:12:29. > :12:30.a lot of the British Adam Peaty, James Guy,
:12:31. > :12:34.they seem to not be involved Do you think that is
:12:35. > :12:39.really important? I think that it has
:12:40. > :12:43.to be personal preference. I know for me in London,
:12:44. > :12:46.some of the athletes wanted to talk about what was happening and we had
:12:47. > :12:49.a team discussion about it and we said, it is actually up
:12:50. > :12:52.to everyone and their personal responsibility whether they want to
:12:53. > :12:54.go on or not. I don't think that you should
:12:55. > :12:57.dictate that everyone has to stop. Not being funny, can you imagine
:12:58. > :13:10.Becky without Twitter? So the 200 metre backstroke,
:13:11. > :13:20.people will be saying, There are exciting young
:13:21. > :13:28.prospects for Team GB. Obviously in the men's
:13:29. > :13:35.200, Luke Greenback. And we see it across all
:13:36. > :13:38.of the events. There's so many of the good
:13:39. > :13:44.guys, Joe Lichfield, with the British swimming
:13:45. > :13:47.that we have that. Remember that it is one
:13:48. > :13:50.of the events that we have a little Katie Sexton, world
:13:51. > :13:53.champion in 2003. We've had a few good backstrokers
:13:54. > :14:00.and that leaves a legacy behind because they have good
:14:01. > :14:03.people to chase and also one of those things when you go
:14:04. > :14:08.to do swim camps and swim clinics and the people come up and meet
:14:09. > :14:12.you and they want to be like you We can't talk about role models
:14:13. > :14:16.without mentioning Missy But such an interesting story
:14:17. > :14:23.for me because she had a phenomenal London 2012,
:14:24. > :14:27.became the poster girl, the all-American girl,
:14:28. > :14:29.smiley and very religious, She's not been able to back that up
:14:30. > :14:35.and she's not found her form over Big debate over whether she should
:14:36. > :14:39.have gone professional sooner, You went to the press conference
:14:40. > :14:50.where she seemed bubbly and smiley and happy so you don't
:14:51. > :14:53.know what's going on, It's just one of those things
:14:54. > :14:59.but she hasn't had a good meet. You have to remember,
:15:00. > :15:09.you see it in the tennis a lot. Not many people apart
:15:10. > :15:11.from Serena WIlliams, that it is hard to sometimes
:15:12. > :15:15.find that consistency. I know that she had a problem
:15:16. > :15:18.with her back and one of these things being at university and not
:15:19. > :15:20.being at university. She's still smiling
:15:21. > :15:24.with her gloves on. She is very sweet but as I say,
:15:25. > :15:32.for me, she's a really interesting discussion point
:15:33. > :15:34.because she could have cashed Whatever happens, I'm sure that
:15:35. > :15:38.she'll still be smiling. She's just seen her team-mate
:15:39. > :15:56.win the first semifinal You quite like the look
:15:57. > :16:15.of this young lady? She's had a fantastic meet so far
:16:16. > :16:19.and seems to be really enjoying it. Dirado, gold in the relay and gold,
:16:20. > :16:25.silver and bronze here. well, one of the female
:16:26. > :16:28.swimmers of the meet. 200 and 400 medley, 100 backstroke
:16:29. > :16:34.and this is the 200 metres She is on fire but she looks
:16:35. > :16:44.a little bit tired after that final of the 200 medley when she faded
:16:45. > :16:50.towards the end a little bit. So you've got to call it faded,
:16:51. > :16:54.really, and Siobhan Marie O'Connor Absolutely, and it will be
:16:55. > :17:04.interesting to see Franklin tonight. I think that lane seven,
:17:05. > :17:08.Missy Franklin, four She's gone off the boil a little bit
:17:09. > :17:20.and didn't have a great I think that's a similar story
:17:21. > :17:24.to Emily Seebohm really. Two great backstroke
:17:25. > :17:25.swimmers who are not Well, I have to say, this semifinal,
:17:26. > :17:33.if it is the final line-up, Olympic champion from
:17:34. > :17:40.Beijing in two, Coventry. Very high position on the start
:17:41. > :17:51.from Missy Franklin of the USA. And by far the best start right
:17:52. > :17:54.in the centre is Katinka She's won the gold in
:17:55. > :17:58.the 100 metres backstroke, a surprise for me, but not
:17:59. > :18:03.in the medley where she With Seebohm doing that in the first
:18:04. > :18:08.semifinal, I can't think At the top, well,
:18:09. > :18:19.the race is at the top. You don't think that Katinka Hosszu
:18:20. > :18:27.is going to try to break She does like to swim
:18:28. > :18:57.all of her races on the edge. She does like to swim
:18:58. > :18:59.all of the races there. I'm not sure if she's capable
:19:00. > :19:02.of the world record. A body length ahead
:19:03. > :19:05.of Dirado though. She'd have to come back there,
:19:06. > :19:09.which I'm not sure is possible, but she's certainly
:19:10. > :19:11.working very hard indeed. And Hosszu, if she swims
:19:12. > :19:13.like this in the final, I can't see too many people getting
:19:14. > :19:16.anywhere near her. Dirado in second
:19:17. > :19:18.place at the moment. One lane closer for the USA,
:19:19. > :19:20.and Hocking in third who was the fastest in the world
:19:21. > :19:23.coming into this until Hosszu's heat She's going to have
:19:24. > :19:28.to come back in 30.3. I'm not sure that she can do that
:19:29. > :19:32.but she's getting closer It will probably get down to 2.5,
:19:33. > :19:40.which will be the first person She hasn't eased back
:19:41. > :19:42.on anything there. Dirado on the right-hand side
:19:43. > :19:45.and Hocking on the left. The two swimmers will comfortably
:19:46. > :19:49.qualify for the final. It is the fastest time in the world
:19:50. > :20:01.this year for Katinka Hosszu. Just 0.06s ahead of the time that
:20:02. > :20:04.she set this morning. And my word, there's some
:20:05. > :20:07.big surprises there. Missy Franklin, the defending
:20:08. > :20:11.Olympic champion, no more. And when you see that, you think,
:20:12. > :20:21.Lizzie Simmons sitting back in Great Britain,
:20:22. > :20:24.I don't think that she would have Great shame that she didn't
:20:25. > :20:28.make it on the team. So Hosszu, though, looking
:20:29. > :20:35.for her fourth gold medal tomorrow night and like you,
:20:36. > :20:39.Andy, I'm not sure that there's Well, it's going to be interesting
:20:40. > :20:46.when we see the women' 800 metres freestyle with Katie Ledecky
:20:47. > :20:49.and Katinka Hosszu both going for the fourth gold medal
:20:50. > :20:59.in the same session. There was clear water
:21:00. > :21:02.between Hosszu's feet there. So clear water between Hosszu's
:21:03. > :21:07.feet and the second Well, if she wins tomorrow night,
:21:08. > :21:22.she wins four gold medals, Compared to if Katie Ledecky wins it
:21:23. > :21:30.and gets four golds as well, So the results of
:21:31. > :21:35.the second semifinal. Beijing champion in fourth
:21:36. > :21:46.and London champion in seventh. Katinka Hosszu goes in
:21:47. > :21:50.comfortably fastest. And So Katinka Hosszu already
:21:51. > :22:07.has three gold medals We spent a lot of time looking
:22:08. > :22:15.at her coach and husband. Here he is with his man bun of rage
:22:16. > :22:22.on the top of the head there. I love that he's got her world
:22:23. > :22:28.records tattooed on him. He used to be in swimming and he did
:22:29. > :22:38.a degree in human performance so he obviously knows a lot
:22:39. > :22:41.about the body but the two of them together seems
:22:42. > :22:45.to have made a fantastic... They are certainly formidable,
:22:46. > :22:47.aren't they? In the final, we will
:22:48. > :22:53.see him jumping around Doing his version
:22:54. > :22:57.of the samba there! We're rattling towards
:22:58. > :23:05.Phelps and Lochte, two of the most successful Olympic
:23:06. > :23:09.athletes of all time. This place is going to go beyond
:23:10. > :23:12.bananas as well. Back to you shortly
:23:13. > :23:24.for Lochte and Phelps. But let me bring you right up
:23:25. > :23:27.to date with what's happening Kristy Gilmore was given the chance
:23:28. > :23:32.to go inside the ropes. A programme for young badminton
:23:33. > :23:37.hopefuls and she's won her first Olympic singles match,
:23:38. > :23:44.winning it 2-0. And let's bring you right up to date
:23:45. > :23:53.now with what's happening in the men's gold medal match
:23:54. > :23:56.in table tennis. This is a really fascinating
:23:57. > :24:01.all-China affair. Ma Long, who is the current
:24:02. > :24:15.World Cup champion, taking on Zhang. A bit of backspin
:24:16. > :24:21.on the return there. Zhang just needs to lift a fraction
:24:22. > :24:26.more than he did. Got the bat a little bit
:24:27. > :24:32.too far over the ball. And an error by Zhang and we're
:24:33. > :24:34.not seeing many. That push wasn't quite
:24:35. > :24:38.as fast and as deep Zhang mistiming
:24:39. > :24:44.the backhand topspin. He's a very good player
:24:45. > :25:02.and he's been made to look I think that that is unfair on him
:25:03. > :25:13.but such is the skill of Ma Long. He gets it and it is Zhang who has
:25:14. > :25:16.called the time out. He's just lost the
:25:17. > :25:19.first three points. What can he do to break this train
:25:20. > :25:23.that's literally rolling through him Try to break the momentum
:25:24. > :25:30.that Ma Long has got. That's certainly being classed
:25:31. > :25:49.as having the momentum with you. But he is human and Zhang with that
:25:50. > :26:23.time-out, may be the best I think that it was
:26:24. > :26:38.the topspin on the ball. Sometimes you get a lot of spin
:26:39. > :26:41.and it affects how the ball He shouts back and stretches
:26:42. > :27:02.that lead to two. I think that most of them
:27:03. > :27:05.are occupied this evening. The body language from Zhang,
:27:06. > :27:17.I think, tells its own story. And he's come up
:27:18. > :27:24.against a brick wall. The Great Wall of China
:27:25. > :27:28.there in Ma Long. Just excellent work
:27:29. > :27:45.from this man here. The topspin bites into the rubber
:27:46. > :27:51.and pings up into the air. Got to get the racket over the ball
:27:52. > :27:58.when there's heavy topspin. Too much power there
:27:59. > :28:06.for Zhang to control. 6-3 and five points now needed
:28:07. > :28:09.for the most prestigious title in the world of table tennis -
:28:10. > :28:22.the Olympic gold medal for singles. Zhang, to give him credit,
:28:23. > :28:27.he has tried everything. But this man, he's such a good
:28:28. > :28:35.table tennis player. You see all of the evidence
:28:36. > :28:48.here in this gold medal match. Three points away from
:28:49. > :28:58.the gold medal for Ma Long. Just punching the air
:28:59. > :29:05.and he's shouting. Clearly, it's an obvious thing
:29:06. > :29:17.to say, but it means so much to him. The celebrations will have to wait
:29:18. > :29:20.a little bit longer. There's always a danger now that
:29:21. > :29:33.Ma Long just unconsciously takes the pressure off a little bit
:29:34. > :29:37.and takes his foot off the pedal. Zhang throws caution to the wind
:29:38. > :29:43.and he pulls off the big shots. So there still could be a few more
:29:44. > :29:49.twists and turns in this final. You can imagine that the focus
:29:50. > :30:00.is still pretty sharp. You'd have to feel for Zhang,
:30:01. > :30:03.who has played some excellent stuff here but is still on the wrong
:30:04. > :30:13.end of a hiding here. The backhand topspin
:30:14. > :30:22.there was amazing. some of the shots like we've
:30:23. > :30:27.never seen them before. Ma Long has completed the grand
:30:28. > :30:48.slam in table tennis He had a team gold in London
:30:49. > :30:56.but he is the men's singles champion here, beating the man who got
:30:57. > :31:00.gold in London, Zhang. And what a display of table tennis
:31:01. > :31:07.we have seen here tonight in Rio. Well done to Ma Long
:31:08. > :31:10.so that's the World Cup, the world champion and now he's
:31:11. > :31:13.the Olympic champion. He has completed the table
:31:14. > :31:15.tennis triple crown. There are nine sports taking
:31:16. > :31:17.place right now. Let's whizz you around some
:31:18. > :31:20.of the Olympic venues and show bit of handball, it is
:31:21. > :31:27.France against Argentina. In Paris this year, we were out
:31:28. > :31:36.there for the They were selling as many handball
:31:37. > :31:39.shirts in the build-up to the Olympics as they were
:31:40. > :31:41.the European Championships. And there's also a little bit
:31:42. > :31:50.of basketball available for you. Argentina also in action here,
:31:51. > :31:52.although they're four points That is available on the BBC Sport
:31:53. > :32:01.app and via the BBC sport website. And you join us as the medallists
:32:02. > :32:18.of the women's 200 metres breaststroke make their way around
:32:19. > :32:20.the pool and start Well, they're not yet off
:32:21. > :32:23.on the victory lap but just So gold and bronze for
:32:24. > :32:26.Japan and China. Chloe Tutton and Molly Renshaw
:32:27. > :32:33.missing out on medals in that one. But there's plenty
:32:34. > :32:45.to come in the future. Right, we are almost about to see
:32:46. > :32:49.the 200 metre individual medley and there they are -
:32:50. > :32:52.two of the most successful Olympians Michael Phelps with his hood up
:32:53. > :33:01.there and Ryan Lochte, They're more friendly than we saw
:33:02. > :33:05.when it was Chad Le Clos Look at Ryan Lochte's hair -
:33:06. > :33:30.I think that he took a wrong turn They love a bit of showboating, it
:33:31. > :33:34.the Americans. It has certainly caused a stir.
:33:35. > :33:37.And the bottom line is that there's confidence and a little
:33:38. > :33:39.bit of sledging but not any arrogance there.
:33:40. > :33:42.I think that Ryan Lochte did a TV show three years ago or something.
:33:43. > :33:52.But it is not just about the Americans in this one, is it?
:33:53. > :33:56.I say that because that it how the Brazilians chant his name!
:33:57. > :33:58.It will erupt in here when they come out.
:33:59. > :34:01.I think that the thing is that the beautiful thing
:34:02. > :34:03.is the fact that the Brazilians appreciate what they're seeing
:34:04. > :34:06.with Michael Phelps and everyone wants to get a piece
:34:07. > :34:11.I don't know if he's going to retire, but this will be
:34:12. > :34:14.the last time we'll see him swim on the big stage.
:34:15. > :34:17.And their golden boy, as it were, the best chance that they've got
:34:18. > :34:20.of a medal is this guy Thiago in this event.
:34:21. > :34:22.Historically, Brazil are good at swimming and they really love
:34:23. > :34:24.the sport so they come out and they appreciate it.
:34:25. > :34:29.How much of a threat is Hagino going to pose?
:34:30. > :34:33.I think that he will be a threat and the main threat to Phelps.
:34:34. > :34:38.I think that Phelps, it would be wrong to bet against him
:34:39. > :34:41.as it were but Hagino had the best time and the 200 metres
:34:42. > :34:47.Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte historically have the most amazing
:34:48. > :34:53.When you watch it, it is a dream to watch it.
:34:54. > :35:12.I don't think that Thiago will be able to do it.
:35:13. > :35:14.He's come fourth in the last two Olympic Games but
:35:15. > :35:16.in the Olympic Games, a lot happens.
:35:17. > :35:22.He strikes me as the kind of guy who enjoys that kind of American
:35:23. > :35:24.approach that, we're great at this, we're good
:35:25. > :35:25.at this and you need that
:35:26. > :35:31.I think that it has helped Dan Wallace.
:35:32. > :35:34.He likes the showboating like the Americans do but he always
:35:35. > :35:37.steps up at a major meet and even coming into this, he hasn't
:35:38. > :35:40.He was a wild-card coming into the Olympic Games
:35:41. > :35:42.and he's proved everyone wrong and has gone,
:35:43. > :35:48.Because we were all doubting him and saying, "Oh, gosh,
:35:49. > :35:51.why is he on the team when he hasn't performed well?"
:35:52. > :35:52.Tonight, obviously, he's in that final.
:35:53. > :35:55.I do think that it is going to be very, very hard
:35:56. > :35:57.for Dan Wallace to final, to medal, I mean.
:35:58. > :36:00.Because a lot of these older ones, I doubt Lochte
:36:01. > :36:02.and Phelps and Thiago, are going to be
:36:03. > :36:09.It will be the one where the younger ones will come through
:36:10. > :36:13.We know that it is early in the morning and we appreciate your
:36:14. > :36:15.company and thank you for sticking with us
:36:16. > :36:20.and you guys keep saying on and off the air just how exciting
:36:21. > :36:23.and how much more there is to come from them.
:36:24. > :36:29.Chelsea White, they are phenomenal glasses.
:36:30. > :36:33.Mark Foster was sporting something similar.
:36:34. > :37:04.The atmosphere is unbelievable. Back he is dancing, Mark is dancing and I
:37:05. > :37:07.know Adrian and Andrew will be doing the samba. Old macro we certainly
:37:08. > :37:16.are. This is the one that the whole world
:37:17. > :37:19.has been waiting for. I wonder whether the
:37:20. > :37:27.Brazilians feel that this And I can tell you in lane
:37:28. > :37:33.three, third fastest qualifier for the finalist
:37:34. > :37:35.is Thiago Pereira of Brazil. But Dan Wallace in lane two
:37:36. > :37:38.and has done well there. But those two guys there,
:37:39. > :37:40.Ryan Lochte, the world record holder, and Michael Phelps,
:37:41. > :37:42.three times defending champion They've gone back into their own
:37:43. > :37:46.bubbles, joking about and laughing with each other ten minutes ago
:37:47. > :37:48.but right now, Phelps looked like he was giving Lochte the evils
:37:49. > :37:52.but I don't think that he was. I think that Lochte looked a little
:37:53. > :37:55.bit tired in the semis and not quite having everything that it took
:37:56. > :37:58.but they'll have a great battle. The idea that Phelps could come
:37:59. > :38:01.here and win the 200 metres fly and Lochte the 200 metres medley,
:38:02. > :38:04.that would be a great finish to their careers but I'm not sure
:38:05. > :38:07.that it will play out here. There is history all
:38:08. > :38:09.over the place here. Michael Phelps has already come
:38:10. > :38:11.to the 200 metres butterfly and the first swimmer ever to win
:38:12. > :38:15.medals in the same event in four The silver, of course,
:38:16. > :38:23.in London 2012. And here he has a great chance
:38:24. > :38:26.of becoming the first swimmer in history to go gold medallist
:38:27. > :38:29.in four consecutive Olympic Games He stood up in Glasgow in 2014 when
:38:30. > :38:46.he won that 400 medley. Well, I think for Hagino,
:38:47. > :38:56.looked comfortable in the semifinal. He will be in six next
:38:57. > :38:59.to Lochte but for me, it is between Hagino
:39:00. > :39:02.in six and Phelps in four Listen to our Brazilian commentators
:39:03. > :39:15.there! We have Gustavo beside us,
:39:16. > :39:28.the fantastic Brazilian commentator. second fastest qualifier
:39:29. > :39:33.for the men's 200 metres qualifier, the world record holder,
:39:34. > :39:36.Ryan Lochte of the USA. And the crowd really
:39:37. > :39:49.are up for this one, whether it is for their swimmer
:39:50. > :39:53.or Phelps winning it. I think that they'll
:39:54. > :39:57.be happy either way. I think that they know for Pereira
:39:58. > :40:00.to win a medal, It is Lochte's record,
:40:01. > :40:03.it is Phelps's Olympic record. Just see behind lane four,
:40:04. > :40:06.he just goes through the process It's a zip-up so he can whip it off
:40:07. > :40:12.really quickly but he just He made that mistake earlier
:40:13. > :40:24.and he's waiting for Michael. Well, the world really wanting
:40:25. > :40:29.to see what happens here. I can tell you, the American
:40:30. > :40:34.football game going on in Baltimore, the Baltimore Ravens and they're
:40:35. > :40:37.stopping the game so that they can It is the final of the men's 200
:40:38. > :40:44.metres individual medley. Lanes five and four
:40:45. > :40:54.and the crowd are going nuts. Well, at some point,
:40:55. > :41:07.they're going to have to get quiet because you can't start a swimming
:41:08. > :41:09.race with that going on. The referee is going to have
:41:10. > :41:11.to call it. The announcer asking
:41:12. > :41:22.for quiet for the start. Gold and silver for me, it's going
:41:23. > :41:32.to be tough to break the two. Maybe Hagino can, but possibly
:41:33. > :41:38.a bronze for Dan Wallace? World record holder,
:41:39. > :41:41.Lochte. There was silence in this 15,000
:41:42. > :42:14.crowd for the final of the men's 200 metres individual medley
:42:15. > :42:18.and right in the centre, two good starts for the two
:42:19. > :42:26.protagonists, Michael Phelps in fiur and Lochte
:42:27. > :42:28.in five for the USA. Well, it really is like
:42:29. > :42:30.watching two heavyweights Well, Pereira, the Brazilian
:42:31. > :42:38.has turned first. Wow, there's a low roar in the crowd
:42:39. > :42:41.as that happened. Ryan Lochte, great
:42:42. > :42:51.backstroke swimmer. Should try to stay with it but it is
:42:52. > :42:55.Michael Phelps and Pereira. It is, but Phelps'
:42:56. > :42:57.breaststroke is good. So at the halfway turn,
:42:58. > :43:03.very, very close indeed. Lochte first and Phelps
:43:04. > :43:14.and Pereira equal second. He knows that Lochte has a great
:43:15. > :43:21.breaststroke and Lochte Lochte's arms not doing
:43:22. > :43:25.the right thing at the front. Pereira is having the race
:43:26. > :43:27.of his life there. The crowd are screaming with every
:43:28. > :43:29.breath that he takes. Right on the world record
:43:30. > :43:31.for Michael Phelps. Phelps is supreme but watch the turn
:43:32. > :43:43.and see if he goes big and deep. Well, he's certainly gone deep
:43:44. > :43:46.and he's gone very fast And it is Lochte's world record
:43:47. > :43:50.and Lochte is not looking that There's getting clear water
:43:51. > :43:55.between him and the Michael Phelps is going to win his
:43:56. > :44:02.fourth straight gold medal in a row The first time in history that
:44:03. > :44:11.a swimmer has gone gold, gold, gold, gold in the men's 400 metres,
:44:12. > :44:15.sorry, 400 metres medley. gold in the men's 400 metres,
:44:16. > :44:18.sorry, 200 metres medley. Oh my goodness me,
:44:19. > :44:19.that is utterly extraordinary. It's been my privilege
:44:20. > :44:32.and our privilege to sit and watch every one of the gold medals
:44:33. > :44:35.but I don't think that... I've been as emotional
:44:36. > :44:37.as watching that one. This man has swum five
:44:38. > :44:41.Olympic Games and won four Held them all off
:44:42. > :44:50.in freestyle. At some time, you're just
:44:51. > :44:58.going to run out of superlatives He won by two seconds
:44:59. > :45:09.against the greatest There he is on the left-hand side,
:45:10. > :45:17.Lochte on the right. Lochte now just didn't
:45:18. > :45:23.have the fight and I think that here, Ryan Lochte,
:45:24. > :45:25.the breaststroke is normally where he makes the move and he had
:45:26. > :45:29.nothing in the tank and Pereira committed himself and risked it
:45:30. > :45:35.all and ended up in seventh. And the commentary team next to us
:45:36. > :45:38.got deflated when the freestyle came along but if you were watching
:45:39. > :45:42.Phelps, they were seeing Well, he's absolutely knocked me
:45:43. > :45:55.over so many times. Four golds from Athens
:45:56. > :45:57.all the way through. The first swimmer in history to win
:45:58. > :46:10.the same event in four consecutive Olympic Games
:46:11. > :46:14.and he just keeps creating history Well, he's got one race to rest for,
:46:15. > :46:22.the freestyle final, and then he's in the semifinal
:46:23. > :46:25.of the men's 100 metres fly. It's only two lengths but he's
:46:26. > :46:30.getting more and more tired Can you imagine the atmosphere
:46:31. > :46:37.at the Baltimore Ravens game as they stopped to
:46:38. > :46:39.watch the race live? Michael Phelps, yet another Olympic
:46:40. > :46:42.gold medal. The men's 200 metres
:46:43. > :46:56.individual medley. Wonderful silver for Hagina of Japan
:46:57. > :47:01.and a bronze for Wang. Great Britain's Dan Wallace did
:47:02. > :47:07.really to make the final. We've sort of run out of ways
:47:08. > :47:10.to describe this because Michael Phelps is just unbelievable
:47:11. > :47:13.and he's not done it once, But we're going to see him
:47:14. > :47:21.again this evening. Because it wasn't quite as
:47:22. > :47:26.showboaty as it normally is? I think it was different
:47:27. > :47:29.against Chad because that's one He didn't do the whole getting up
:47:30. > :47:35.on the lane line and doing that. He seemed tired after that
:47:36. > :47:39.but it is just the semifinal of the men's 100 metres butterfly
:47:40. > :47:45.so he has to make it through there. You can tell that
:47:46. > :47:48.he's hurting a bit. He was puffing and trying to recover
:47:49. > :47:53.straightaway and it was more of a calm, yeah,
:47:54. > :47:55.that was really good. I think that the other thing is that
:47:56. > :47:58.behind the other racing of the 200 metres fly, not only
:47:59. > :48:00.did he lose in London but for the last three years,
:48:01. > :48:03.since he's been away, Chad was winning and basically,
:48:04. > :48:05.Michael Phelps was going - And Chad was like -
:48:06. > :48:09.come on then, bring it and see what you've got and that's why he's
:48:10. > :48:11.giving it this. He'd been away and he turned up
:48:12. > :48:15.and performed and on that one, I think that it was just a mutual
:48:16. > :48:17.respect for that one. No medal for Dan Wallace
:48:18. > :48:20.but if you're going to be How often do you get
:48:21. > :48:28.an experience like that one? That's like what it is like for Mark
:48:29. > :48:40.when you walk around! That's life when you're hanging out
:48:41. > :48:44.with the legend that is Mr Foster! Absolutely, thank you very
:48:45. > :48:46.much indeed to you. If you are on the sofa
:48:47. > :48:50.or if you are in bed at the moment, Michael Phelps has just won the 22nd
:48:51. > :48:54.Olympic gold medal and forget about swimming for one moment,
:48:55. > :48:57.but we have to say that Michael Phelps has got to be one
:48:58. > :49:00.of the greatest sportsmen Now, one of the best
:49:01. > :49:03.quotes that you will hear when you're out in Brazil is -
:49:04. > :49:06.football is a religion, but the number one sport
:49:07. > :49:08.for Brazilians is volleyball. One of the most eagerly anticipated
:49:09. > :49:10.clashes in volleyball in the Olympic Games is Brazil vs
:49:11. > :49:13.the United States and they're COMMENTATOR: As you'd
:49:14. > :49:24.expect, it's packed here. This is a replay of the 2008
:49:25. > :49:37.Olympic Games final in Beijing. I think it was, they're
:49:38. > :49:49.going to challenge. The tracking technology
:49:50. > :49:51.that they have is able to see not only where the ball lands but how
:49:52. > :49:56.much of the ball actually lands on the floor and from these guys,
:49:57. > :49:59.it's pretty much the entire circumference of it compresses down
:50:00. > :50:02.to contact the floor so if it is close, the likelihood
:50:03. > :50:06.is that it is in and it was in. The USA are having to pump
:50:07. > :50:37.the ball wide. De Souza with the vertical leap
:50:38. > :50:39.just hangs and bangs They're going to challenge
:50:40. > :51:35.for a touch. Hands going high to press and yes,
:51:36. > :51:39.it is off Lucas' finger if he's want to go and get that back
:51:40. > :51:48.from the ball. The USA have a healthy
:51:49. > :51:56.five-point cushion. Brazil have lost all
:51:57. > :51:58.of their opening sets in the first So this is nothing new to them
:51:59. > :52:01.there. Lucas was having to contort his body
:52:02. > :52:16.to try to get a hand on that one, as Bruno Rezende tried to find him
:52:17. > :52:19.from an almost impossible angle. He hit that down to position one
:52:20. > :52:22.into the corner and he may Ace serve from Brazil, although it's
:52:23. > :52:49.not over yet, this set. And USA move closer
:52:50. > :53:31.to taking the opening set. Like a Panenka pen,
:53:32. > :54:05.but better, with one hand! Blocking substitution then
:54:06. > :54:07.from Brazil with Andreu coming on. Trying to throw some caution
:54:08. > :54:12.to the wind there as they try to And Brazil surely must
:54:13. > :54:19.have known it as well. That's Mauricio's
:54:20. > :54:31.job, to protect that ball from coming over,
:54:32. > :54:35.the number 19, and he didn't do it. William has come in as part
:54:36. > :54:45.of a double substitution. So the set is back in
:54:46. > :54:48.now into the back row. William plays his volleyball in
:54:49. > :54:59.Cruzeiro in Brazil in the SuperLiga. They're former World Champions
:55:00. > :55:01.and current domestic club champions. They'll be competing
:55:02. > :55:09.in the World Championships He was ot at the test event
:55:10. > :55:14.in Earls Court but wasn't selected for the squad that took a silver
:55:15. > :55:26.medal at the London 2012 Games. That's a lovely set there to throw
:55:27. > :55:30.the ball back towards Anderson and a throw in the
:55:31. > :55:40.nicest possible way. Attacking all of the energy
:55:41. > :55:43.of the ball and flinging Putting Brazil off balance
:55:44. > :55:46.and chasing towards Anderson. Nice from Willem, he jumped early
:55:47. > :55:58.and used the hang time And also Mauricio and number 14,
:55:59. > :56:26.Douglas, who is So the first set goes
:56:27. > :56:33.the way of USA. That early lead they got,
:56:34. > :56:36.they managed to hang on to. You can see more of the match
:56:37. > :56:49.there on the red button. Right, let's go back to the swimming
:56:50. > :56:52.and Helen is there. And Helen, I was at London 2012
:56:53. > :56:55.seeing Michael Phelps winning gold. What a real privilege
:56:56. > :56:57.for you to be poolside and see Yes, and the Americans
:56:58. > :57:02.are celebrating another Ryan Murphy has just
:57:03. > :57:05.collected his gold medal. He clambered up the photographer's
:57:06. > :57:13.banks and hugged his mum. You could see him closing
:57:14. > :57:20.in on his mum and dad and family members and brother up there
:57:21. > :57:23.I think, as he makes his way around. He's quite measured for
:57:24. > :57:24.an American. No, he wasn't fist
:57:25. > :57:31.pumping and stuff. When he hit the wall though,
:57:32. > :57:33.I think that was... You can't be a 14-year-old swimmer
:57:34. > :57:46.who needs to be in the pool at 5am without your family or at least
:57:47. > :57:56.somebody close to your family helping you out and
:57:57. > :57:58.helping you get there. Mitch Larkin of Australia
:57:59. > :58:00.getting silver. The mascot thing that they
:58:01. > :58:05.get given? It's like the emblem,
:58:06. > :58:09.like a phone holder or something! I have to be honest,
:58:10. > :58:15.I think that you two have a better chance of getting one
:58:16. > :58:17.of those than I have! Earlier we saw Dan Wallace
:58:18. > :58:28.in the 200 metre medley. That went to Michael Phelps
:58:29. > :58:30.but our boy was in there Quite a race to be a part
:58:31. > :58:40.of but almost like history Yeah, it was a pretty
:58:41. > :58:43.special experience for me. You know, it was amazing to get
:58:44. > :58:45.to the Olympic final, but that one definitely had
:58:46. > :58:48.something special about it. You know, the names in that
:58:49. > :58:50.final, the occasion So I'm back home now,
:58:51. > :59:05.up in Scotland, which I'm I spent just over four years
:59:06. > :59:09.in America and you know, it was But I'm ready for a change
:59:10. > :59:13.and to move things forward and I'm Obviously World Championships next
:59:14. > :59:16.year and then the Great memories of you at
:59:17. > :59:20.the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Glasgow has become quite the centre
:59:21. > :59:22.of swimming, hasn't it? Yeah, the Commonwealth Games
:59:23. > :59:25.was great for Glasgow and Scotland so I'm really looking forward
:59:26. > :59:27.to going up to the Gold Coast and hopefully I can defend my title
:59:28. > :59:30.there and they have more Well, I know that you will be,
:59:31. > :59:41.Scotland will be glad to have Loads of Brazilians
:59:42. > :59:47.leaning over the camera. Like he said there, he's come back
:59:48. > :59:52.from the UK and training in the UK. Do you think that that is a good
:59:53. > :59:55.move for him? Yeah, he's been over in the States
:59:56. > :59:57.in a college programme. Even if he tries to swim
:59:58. > :00:03.in a programme, it won't be a part Stirling have a great programme
:00:04. > :00:12.there with great swimmers with Duncan Scott, Robbie Renwick
:00:13. > :00:14.and some of those guys. He has for the last few months been
:00:15. > :00:17.training with James Guy. He needs the right people
:00:18. > :00:20.surrounding him. He we know that the guys
:00:21. > :00:31.at Scottish Swimming are with us. So is Carla at Gateshead Hospital
:00:32. > :00:34.and everyone at Royal Stick around for the next one
:00:35. > :00:37.because we have the The Williams sisters
:00:38. > :00:42.of the swimming world. I wonder if we could see two
:00:43. > :00:44.sisters on the podium. If that happens, Becky
:00:45. > :00:47.and I will absolutely love it because we love a family
:00:48. > :00:49.angle, don't we? Over to two members of our little
:00:50. > :00:51.dysfunctional family. And Bronte Campbell,
:00:52. > :00:55.the world champion that you just saw Sarah Sjostrom, she broke the world
:00:56. > :01:02.record in the gold and the 100 metres fly and got a silver
:01:03. > :01:06.in the 200 metres free. We've never had a black lady win
:01:07. > :01:11.an Olympic gold medal And Penny Oleksiak, 16 years of age,
:01:12. > :01:18.going for her fourth medal Six of the eight women have
:01:19. > :01:25.been on the medal podium She looked brilliant in the heats
:01:26. > :01:40.and the semifinal and she She broke it in an open meet
:01:41. > :01:43.in Brisbane, I think when her father phoned,
:01:44. > :01:52.Bronte wasn't there. Her father phoned the house
:01:53. > :01:55.and told her that she broke the world record and
:01:56. > :01:57.she didn't believe him. I'm not sure that she will
:01:58. > :02:01.get close in this one. Bronte seems to me
:02:02. > :02:03.to not be focused. She was larking around in the ready
:02:04. > :02:11.room there but that's Well, I have no idea how far
:02:12. > :02:17.she could go and I don't think The world senior record holder
:02:18. > :02:28.there with the yellow cap and there's Simone Manuel
:02:29. > :02:42.of the USA. 15,000 people hushed
:02:43. > :02:43.for the final Fastest seed, the world record
:02:44. > :02:48.holder, Cate Campbell, Her sister in two,
:02:49. > :02:57.the world champion. The 100 metre freestyle final
:02:58. > :03:00.of the Olympic Games for the women a decent start and that's normally
:03:01. > :03:05.the weakest part of her race. To the right of the shot
:03:06. > :03:13.there, Bronte Campbell Cate looks fantastic here,
:03:14. > :03:18.well ahead of the world record here and she's 0.12 under the world
:03:19. > :03:21.record and Simone Manuel But the two Campbell sister,
:03:22. > :03:27.as expected, I suppose, Well, Simone Manuel of the USA
:03:28. > :03:34.a little bit closer and she's Manuel starting to overtake
:03:35. > :03:39.Campbell. The USA in lane three
:03:40. > :03:49.and will we have our first black lady win the Olympic
:03:50. > :03:50.Games? Oleksiak there also
:03:51. > :03:58.with the same time. Our first black lady has won
:03:59. > :04:13.an Olympic gold medal It's Simone Manuel, and she's tied
:04:14. > :04:16.with the 16-year-old The bronze has gone
:04:17. > :04:22.to Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden, and the Campbell sisters not
:04:23. > :04:26.on the podium. Well, that's quite
:04:27. > :04:28.stunning, actually. I don't know if you noticed there,
:04:29. > :04:31.Oleksiak probably looked, only just realised she got
:04:32. > :04:33.a gold medal. Those two gold medallists
:04:34. > :04:35.there, equal gold medal. Oleksiak probably looked
:04:36. > :04:37.at the board, saw a number one against Manuel's name,
:04:38. > :04:42.and thought she was somewhere else. 30 seconds later, I think
:04:43. > :04:51.she realised. Bronte Campbell in fourth
:04:52. > :04:54.and Cate Campbell in sixth. It was a bit unusual,
:04:55. > :04:59.that sort of laughing and joking I know they're family and stuff,
:05:00. > :05:06.but can you just break apart and get in a bubble and start to focus
:05:07. > :05:09.on what you're doing? I just think that
:05:10. > :05:10.shouldn't have happened. And two totally different ways
:05:11. > :05:28.of receiving that gold medal. Penny Oleksiak, the 16-year-old,
:05:29. > :05:31.I'm not quite sure she knows Poor old Simone Manuel,
:05:32. > :05:38.absolutely in floods of tears! Cate Campbell first
:05:39. > :05:41.through the turn. Then the field just
:05:42. > :05:42.kept coming back. We thought Manuel was
:05:43. > :05:44.coming back on her. Then I was thinking lane five,
:05:45. > :05:47.lane four... Actually, Manuel's hand looked
:05:48. > :06:01.to go in first. The second one is, "Somebody else
:06:02. > :06:14.has got one as well." How brilliant is that
:06:15. > :06:19.for world swimming? Simone Manuel, the first black woman
:06:20. > :06:27.ever to win an Olympic gold medal She wins gold in the 100m
:06:28. > :06:31.freestyle, tied for gold Almost the biggest shock,
:06:32. > :06:38.no Campbells on the podium. Oleksiak coached by
:06:39. > :06:44.Ben Titley as well. The last time USA won this
:06:45. > :06:48.event, they were actually Nancy Hogg and Kerri
:06:49. > :06:53.Steinseffer, I'm slightly worried
:06:54. > :07:01.that the swimmers can hear us, because I think we jinxed
:07:02. > :07:03.the Campbell sisters there. Then we were talking
:07:04. > :07:05.about the Americans' reactions Simone Manuel couldn't
:07:06. > :07:12.believe it, could she? I don't think it's quite sunk
:07:13. > :07:14.in for us all, Cate Campbell broke the world record
:07:15. > :07:23.two months ago, how can you go from breaking a world record two
:07:24. > :07:25.months ago to coming sixth? Let's look again at
:07:26. > :07:29.the end of that race. Normally we see one person breaking
:07:30. > :07:34.away, particularly with names... At the beginning of the race,
:07:35. > :07:38.Cate went off and did her own thing, She came in here probably
:07:39. > :07:46.looking at it, going, Her best time was nearly
:07:47. > :07:51.a second behind that. She's just one of these swimmers,
:07:52. > :07:54.we said it with Duncan Scott, they have a meet, and suddenly
:07:55. > :08:07.on the world stage. When you see that and you see
:08:08. > :08:10.how much it means to We don't often see joint
:08:11. > :08:15.Olympic gold medals, do we? I think the last one was in 2000
:08:16. > :08:17.for the 50m freestyle. It was Gary Hooland and Terry Irvin,
:08:18. > :08:28.who's going to be in the final here. That cheer for Michael Phelps,
:08:29. > :08:36.because he's coming out to collect his gold medal
:08:37. > :08:40.for the 200m individual medley. Don't forget, he's actually
:08:41. > :08:47.in the next event. He's going in the men's 100m
:08:48. > :08:51.butterfly semifinals. And he's got to run down the other
:08:52. > :09:01.end and get on the block and do another 100m fly, which,
:09:02. > :09:03.after a 200m medley, We saw him and Ryan Lochte
:09:04. > :09:06.eating pasta together, sounds like a holiday,
:09:07. > :09:21.but it's far from it... And sitting in an ice bath. An ice
:09:22. > :09:27.bath is never a holiday! Do you think he'll be disappointed
:09:28. > :09:30.that his team-mate isn't up Because they're very close,
:09:31. > :09:33.Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Obviously these guys have shared
:09:34. > :09:36.success, gone back and forth between World Championships
:09:37. > :09:38.and Olympics, they've shared At the same time, Ryan will be
:09:39. > :09:43.so happy for Michael, and Michael will kind of be upset
:09:44. > :09:46.for Ryan but, at the same time, he'll be focused on his 100m
:09:47. > :09:49.butterfly he's got in three minutes, Some people run out of words
:09:50. > :09:53.for the mighty Michael Phelps, He won the bronze
:09:54. > :10:04.medal from lane seven. He beat some brilliant
:10:05. > :10:11.swimmers, I have to say. He beat Ryan Lochte,
:10:12. > :10:16.he beat Pereira. Should also say Dan Wallace
:10:17. > :10:19.of Great Britain did really well to make that final,
:10:20. > :10:21.swimming 1:57 in the semifinals, Also got a silver medal in the men's
:10:22. > :10:27.4 x 200m relay. Kosuke Hagino of Japan,
:10:28. > :10:36.a wonderful meet. Before the race started,
:10:37. > :10:43.I thought he might He played the fly well
:10:44. > :10:49.and the backstroke, but he couldn't live with the pace
:10:50. > :10:52.on the breaststroke. That's where the
:10:53. > :10:57.difference was made. Hagino has to be really satisfied
:10:58. > :11:00.with a 400m gold One of the best swimmers
:11:01. > :11:04.in the world, Interesting how good
:11:05. > :11:09.they are at the medley, and have been for a while,
:11:10. > :11:11.it's actually Japan's first medal For the fourth straight
:11:12. > :11:30.Olympic Games, gold medal number 22, More history for the great
:11:31. > :11:36.Michael Phelps, his fourth gold medal in this event
:11:37. > :11:39.at the Olympic Games. Olympic champion, men's
:11:40. > :11:47.200m individual medley, The way he won it was
:11:48. > :11:59.quite extraordinary. A gold medallist by two
:12:00. > :12:02.full seconds. But also what's interesting is that
:12:03. > :12:11.Phelps has not had an easy life. In the last four years,
:12:12. > :12:13.between 2012 and 2016, But here he is, the greatest
:12:14. > :12:18.swimmer of all time. Olympic champion, men's 200m
:12:19. > :12:20.individual medley for the fourth time in a row,
:12:21. > :12:25.Michael Phelps of the USA. Well, you'd think he's used to it
:12:26. > :13:40.by now, wouldn't you? 26 times he's been on the medal
:13:41. > :13:43.podium, and that's the 22nd time Far more emotion than we've ever
:13:44. > :13:49.seen from Michael Phelps in winning During the spell he had in 2014
:13:50. > :13:56.where he was six weeks... It's very interesting,
:13:57. > :14:00.Bob Bowman, his coach, visited him and said,
:14:01. > :14:03."You came away from there seeing "He hid everything that made him
:14:04. > :14:11.human for 12 years." He saw that, and the last two years,
:14:12. > :14:14.we've seen a very different Michael Phelps,
:14:15. > :14:16.an emotional Michael Phelps. It doesn't make him any less great,
:14:17. > :14:20.it makes him more human. But it still makes him the greatest
:14:21. > :14:23.swimmer I've ever seen. I think he's being escorted
:14:24. > :14:29.a different way to the rest The other swimmers are going down
:14:30. > :14:33.the far side, and Phelps is having the short walk to the ready room
:14:34. > :14:41.for the next race. I have to say, I'm a little bit
:14:42. > :14:44.disappointed they haven't actually changed the rules
:14:45. > :14:46.a little bit for him. To have to swim that 200m medley,
:14:47. > :14:50.and to do it in such He's got the semifinal of the men's
:14:51. > :14:59.100m butterfly fairly shortly. He can win four golds
:15:00. > :15:04.in a row tomorrow night. He's got maybe a slightly easier job
:15:05. > :15:09.of just making the Olympic final. He's the world-record holder,
:15:10. > :15:11.but still, he's standing there... We were interested to see how long
:15:12. > :15:28.it will take him to get back behind the scenes, because he is going
:15:29. > :15:31.in the next semifinal There's your answer, he's trotting
:15:32. > :15:43.back into the call room... She's saying, "You're needed
:15:44. > :15:46.through this room here." He's gone through the process
:15:47. > :15:52.a few times, hasn't he? Might have gone the wrong
:15:53. > :15:56.way without guidance! What's interesting, he could do
:15:57. > :16:04.that, that's for 22... Two and two make four,
:16:05. > :16:12.thank you for that maths lesson... James Guy, he's in
:16:13. > :16:17.the first semifinal. We kind of thought this was an event
:16:18. > :16:20.for him to get... Practice is the wrong word,
:16:21. > :16:23.but he's using this to look ahead However, he was kind of better
:16:24. > :16:30.than we thought this morning. Second-fastest Brit
:16:31. > :16:36.ever across this event. For him, obviously he's got
:16:37. > :16:39.the relay, but it's just amazing that he's going to be
:16:40. > :16:41.next to Michael Phelps, who he's openly said is kind
:16:42. > :16:44.of his hero, and he's But to be honest, 90% of us say
:16:45. > :16:49.about that Michael Phelps. For James Guy, a fantastic
:16:50. > :16:51.swim this morning. It's amazing for that relay
:16:52. > :16:54.that we all keep talking about it. Hopefully the boys can do really,
:16:55. > :16:56.really well on Saturday Everyone's saying
:16:57. > :17:04.he should pull out. I get it, this will be his eighth
:17:05. > :17:08.race this week, but when someone like Michael Phelps,
:17:09. > :17:14.who's doing roughly 20 million... He's getting better
:17:15. > :17:23.and better through the week, When you're swimming freestyle,
:17:24. > :17:28.to swimming butterfly, I could stand up to see that
:17:29. > :17:35.movement, it would be It's a more technical stroke
:17:36. > :17:38.and it needs to flow. The more he races and gets that
:17:39. > :17:44.rhythm... To make the final again tomorrow
:17:45. > :17:49.night would be amazing. I don't feel like we've been able
:17:50. > :17:54.to give James Guy enough credit And he's a brilliant young man,
:17:55. > :17:59.and he's a brilliant racer. But because we haven't
:18:00. > :18:02.seen him on the podium, it's easy to go, "He's not
:18:03. > :18:04.had the best Olympics." He's still up there as one
:18:05. > :18:07.of the best in the world. Yeah, he got that silver medal,
:18:08. > :18:09.obviously, in the relay, and he anchored that leg,
:18:10. > :18:12.a brilliant leg from James. He had the fastest one,
:18:13. > :18:17.yes, in the individual, he didn't. He looks up for it,
:18:18. > :18:19.doing a little dancing! For James, this is his
:18:20. > :18:21.eighth race of the week. I think the first day, we all said
:18:22. > :18:28.it, he looks a bit tired, Every single day, he's
:18:29. > :18:32.grown in confidence, and he's having fun with it,
:18:33. > :18:35.as you should, at the Olympics. That's when James Guy
:18:36. > :18:37.is at his best, when he's Now he just gets to have fun in this
:18:38. > :18:48.event, he gets to be with the boys in that relay,
:18:49. > :18:51.who are really good mates, He'll be buzzing to
:18:52. > :18:54.get back in the pool. The heat is tomorrow morning,
:18:55. > :18:57.and the final on Saturday night. James Guy, you are justified
:18:58. > :19:02.a bit of swagger. We know he listens to Craig David
:19:03. > :19:05.on his headphones, that's probably We've been down that road before,
:19:06. > :19:13.and it was a cul-de-sac. COMMENTATOR: Grant Irvine
:19:14. > :19:25.coming out, sixth fastest He'll be next to James Guy,
:19:26. > :19:34.who will be next to Michael Phelps. Who will be next to Cesh,
:19:35. > :19:36.what a semi it is! I think it's a complete shock
:19:37. > :19:45.to most people, possibly not him, but to most people, that
:19:46. > :19:48.he's even in this semi, and he's got a cracking chance
:19:49. > :19:50.of making the final. Silver in the 4x200m,
:19:51. > :19:53.and a brilliant leg he swam. It's good to see him back out in one
:19:54. > :19:58.of the big evening races. I think he will be happy to get
:19:59. > :20:01.into the medley relay, I'd like to see him
:20:02. > :20:05.get in the top eight. And we've just seen
:20:06. > :20:12.this man previously... He's so much more relaxed
:20:13. > :20:14.than normal. He still takes it very,
:20:15. > :20:16.very seriously indeed. Comes out with a towel,
:20:17. > :20:21.wipes the block. Now he does some stretching,
:20:22. > :20:27.keeps that big zip-up top on, and he keeps it on almost
:20:28. > :20:32.till the end. Laszlo Cseh has looked
:20:33. > :20:34.out of sorts so far. He was second fastest
:20:35. > :20:37.in the heat this morning. He goes to, in theory,
:20:38. > :20:46.the slower of the two semifinals. Cseh had multiple silver and bronze
:20:47. > :20:49.medals in the medley IM, And now Phelps is in
:20:50. > :20:58.the next lane to him. Phelps is in great shape, and his
:20:59. > :21:03.routine is the same every time. He wipes the block with his towel,
:21:04. > :21:07.then puts it on the floor. And in the next lane to him,
:21:08. > :21:15.Great Britain's James Cseh just won the European
:21:16. > :21:34.Championships in London If he does that time,
:21:35. > :21:41.goodness me, he could win it. Guy in the red hat,
:21:42. > :21:50.in the sixth lane. First semifinal of the
:21:51. > :21:54.men's 100m butterfly. Michael Phelps having a decent
:21:55. > :21:57.start, possibly the best Czerniak in the white hat just
:21:58. > :22:04.about leading in lane two. Don't hang around for
:22:05. > :22:15.Michael Phelps, James, Phelps is going to have to really
:22:16. > :22:25.bring everything he's got to this, James Guy having
:22:26. > :22:28.a great race, though. This is how Phelps normally swims
:22:29. > :22:31.it, but he's still got some work to do, in fifth or sixth
:22:32. > :22:33.at the moment. I really hope he doesn't
:22:34. > :22:40.miss the final! He was sixth or seventh
:22:41. > :22:49.with about three strokes to go! James Guy, well, he's not
:22:50. > :22:51.going to make it through to That's great news for
:22:52. > :22:56.the medley relay. Very, very good in the heats
:22:57. > :22:58.this morning. With about three strokes to go,
:22:59. > :23:08.he was about sixth, James Guy, just off
:23:09. > :23:23.it at the end there. That's the end of his 100m
:23:24. > :23:28.fly in the individual. Laszlo Cseh's done enough,
:23:29. > :23:30.and so has Michael Phelps. James Guy was only 0.3 seconds
:23:31. > :23:36.behind third, and he came seventh. So the first semifinal of the men's
:23:37. > :23:55.100m butterfly, Cseh wins it. He'll miss out on the
:23:56. > :24:05.final, will James Guy. As we said coming into this, this
:24:06. > :24:08.isn't really what he's here for, This is part of the
:24:09. > :24:11.bigger picture. Coming into this, apart
:24:12. > :24:14.from this morning's heat, that would have been a very,
:24:15. > :24:16.very good time for James. He did such a big PB this morning
:24:17. > :24:20.through the heats, it was a bit slower tonight,
:24:21. > :24:28.and obviously it's fallen short, coming in seventh won't put him
:24:29. > :24:31.in with the chance of making that I must admit, in the first length,
:24:32. > :24:35.he's normally very demanding. He normally leads the
:24:36. > :24:37.race out, as it were. When he was holding back a bit,
:24:38. > :24:41.obviously in the back of the 200m Coming towards the last 15m,
:24:42. > :24:46.I thought he wouldn't make it. We'll hear with James Guy with
:24:47. > :24:50.Sharron. James, not quite into that final,
:24:51. > :24:53.but think back to all the years ago when you had a poster of that man
:24:54. > :24:57.on your wall, and you swam next The whole world goes a full circle,
:24:58. > :25:06.weirdly, doesn't it? I think I got a bit cold
:25:07. > :25:14.in the call room. I think I got a bit
:25:15. > :25:17.cold in the cool room. I sat so long waiting
:25:18. > :25:18.for the presentation Next thing for me is
:25:19. > :25:23.the relay, obviously. Two great times today,
:25:24. > :25:25.you should be extremely pleased with that, if you hadn't gone
:25:26. > :25:34.faster this morning. I think I only had one
:25:35. > :25:38.morning off this week, tomorrow morning and evening
:25:39. > :25:40.off, which is nice. Your eighth swim, quite
:25:41. > :25:42.a lot of work. For me, that's a 100m blast, I don't
:25:43. > :26:02.do any fly in the pool. All about the relay now,
:26:03. > :26:08.the next few days. It's hard to talk about
:26:09. > :26:14.Michael Phelps without referring We'll see the next chapter of that
:26:15. > :26:19.story, he goes into the second semifinal
:26:20. > :26:21.of the men's 100m butterfly. COMMENTATOR: That is the fastest
:26:22. > :26:23.qualifier after this morning's heat, Not really a surprise,
:26:24. > :26:28.he's been absolutely tearing up Unbelievably quick in
:26:29. > :26:33.the short-course yards He's got quite an interesting
:26:34. > :26:46.stroke, as well, Tom Shields, the second
:26:47. > :26:50.American swimmer. Well, I mentioned earlier
:26:51. > :26:52.the Americans have got five swimmers in the top eight in the world
:26:53. > :26:58.before this race. And they've all gone under 51.3,
:26:59. > :27:02.which would have won that last semi. Chad le Clos, the green hat,
:27:03. > :27:41.in six, the world champion. The second semifinal
:27:42. > :27:43.of the men's 100m butterfly. Also a very good start
:27:44. > :27:48.right in the centre, as expected, is the 21-year-old
:27:49. > :27:50.from Singapore, Joe Schooling. For the moment, it's lane four just
:27:51. > :27:54.showing ahead of Tom Shields. The world record was
:27:55. > :28:00.Michael Phelps, 23.66. Sadovnikov in lane one from Russia
:28:01. > :28:08.going through very quickly. Schooling coming through now
:28:09. > :28:12.in the top of those yellow Schooling coming back
:28:13. > :28:17.very fast indeed down Oh, my word, he's almost 1.5m ahead
:28:18. > :28:27.in the second 50m alone. That'll get a medal if he does
:28:28. > :28:30.that tomorrow night. I think Michael Phelps has just
:28:31. > :28:36.probably choked on his cornflakes. That is a very, very
:28:37. > :28:41.fast swim indeed. A new Asian record for
:28:42. > :28:44.Joseph Schooling of Singapore. If he does that tomorrow,
:28:45. > :28:56.he won't just get a medal, What's frightening is
:28:57. > :29:06.he missed his start, missed his turn,
:29:07. > :29:08.and missed his finish. As you say, the sprinting
:29:09. > :29:19.they do at the NCAAs, the American collegiate system,
:29:20. > :29:21.should prepare them well When you're this fast
:29:22. > :29:26.in the water, it'll help. Phelps won't let him get away
:29:27. > :29:29.with that if he does Phelps went 51.00 at
:29:30. > :29:33.the American trials. So a rested Michael Phelps
:29:34. > :29:41.will get close to that. And he swims in America a lot, swims
:29:42. > :29:47.at Texas in the American system. My goodness, Joseph Schooling wins
:29:48. > :29:50.the second semifinal, It's going to be enormously
:29:51. > :29:56.tight to make that final. Schooling comfortably
:29:57. > :30:01.in front by 0.6 seconds, but then they come really,
:30:02. > :30:14.really tightly packed. We talked a lot about the rivalry
:30:15. > :30:21.in the build-up to the 200m fly, Chad took that crown,
:30:22. > :30:26.which Phelps hadn't given up What's going to happen
:30:27. > :30:36.over the 100m? Michael Phelps is more of a 200m
:30:37. > :30:41.or 400m man than he used to be. He won butterfly for the last
:30:42. > :30:43.three Olympic Games, and wants to go four in a row,
:30:44. > :30:47.like he did in the 200m medley. He looked a bit tired then,
:30:48. > :30:50.but he'd just done the 200m IM, He thought he'd get himself
:30:51. > :30:53.through to the final. The stroke is long and lopy,
:30:54. > :30:59.but he's got a huge kick. He looked in phenomenal form
:31:00. > :31:25.in the Europeans. He looked better than that
:31:26. > :31:29.in the shorter distance, but I don't know, he looks like he's
:31:30. > :31:32.put a bit of weight on. I don't mean a lot of weight,
:31:33. > :31:35.because all swimmers are in shape, but he just doesn't
:31:36. > :31:37.look the same person. At the meets, he's
:31:38. > :31:40.always performing right. I don't know why,
:31:41. > :31:44.I haven't spoken to him. Chad burst out of the scene and took
:31:45. > :32:06.the title unexpectedly. Because of the hoo-ha of his whole
:32:07. > :32:10.family and because he's a character, We saw him in the 200m
:32:11. > :32:17.freestyle first of all, before any of the butterfly events,
:32:18. > :32:20.and he swam out there, kind of went for it,
:32:21. > :32:22.took it on, and got On the butterfly, he's not
:32:23. > :32:25.seemed as sharp. He swam the 200m butterfly very,
:32:26. > :32:28.very differently to the freestyle. He didn't take it on
:32:29. > :32:31.as much, and hung on. Burt was up here this morning going,
:32:32. > :32:34."I swear, he swam that before." He was swimming like
:32:35. > :32:37.that in training. It is one of those odd
:32:38. > :32:40.things as a swimmer. He did a huge personal-best
:32:41. > :32:42.time in the freestyle. He's not quite reached that
:32:43. > :32:45.in the butterfly. You don't know whether it's the chat
:32:46. > :32:48.and hooha, whether he's just tired, It's one of those difficult
:32:49. > :32:54.questions, where's he been at? I thought he would really
:32:55. > :32:59.take it on that first A guy I know who was the Olympic
:33:00. > :33:11.champion in 2004, he said Chad was slightly embarrassed by what had
:33:12. > :33:16.gone on in the call room. Not that he was doing it in front
:33:17. > :33:20.of Michael Phelps' face, but I think he was slightly embarrassed,
:33:21. > :33:22.and I think it's maybe The thing is, if you're out
:33:23. > :33:27.of sorts, sometimes you're just Let's have a look at the end
:33:28. > :33:30.of that race again. As you said, this is the one that
:33:31. > :33:33.everybody's been talking about, everybody's kind of built up
:33:34. > :33:35.to it, expecting some... Well, there's the women's 100m free,
:33:36. > :33:39.because we're about to see We talked a lot about
:33:40. > :33:44.the Campbell sisters. It didn't go the way we thought
:33:45. > :33:46.it would go. It was a lot more
:33:47. > :33:48.exciting, wasn't it? Penny, you have to
:33:49. > :33:51.mention the Canadians. Penny just looked like
:33:52. > :33:57.she was winding up. I think she would have wanted to do
:33:58. > :34:00.a turn and go back again! Amazing that she's only 16 years
:34:01. > :34:02.old, that was an absolutely She's come on and I think this
:34:03. > :34:12.is her fourth medal this week. She's the first individual gold
:34:13. > :34:14.medallist to be born That is an irrelevant
:34:15. > :34:24.stat, I worked it out... What's wonderful for those guys,
:34:25. > :34:27.and we've said this, Canada historically are a really
:34:28. > :34:29.good swimming nation. Over the last few years, they've
:34:30. > :34:33.gone completely off the boil. Now Ben Titley's gone over there,
:34:34. > :34:36.he was one of our swimming stars... I'm not saying it's just down
:34:37. > :34:44.to him, but you put a system in place, I think we've got a good
:34:45. > :34:46.system in place now. It shows you get
:34:47. > :34:48.better performances. Are we going to get
:34:49. > :34:53.both national anthems? Before they go out,
:34:54. > :34:56.they toss a coin to decide In here, they'll probably do
:34:57. > :35:00.some sort of mix and get Calvin Harris is gonna
:35:01. > :35:05.bop out, is he? Congratulations to Sarah
:35:06. > :35:09.Sjostrom of Sweden. She is a real talent,
:35:10. > :35:13.a real swimming superstar. It's hard to say that,
:35:14. > :35:15.a swimming superstar of Sweden, That's a lot of S,
:35:16. > :35:20.but well done, you did it, But Andy, Adrian, take us
:35:21. > :35:27.through this rather unusual Well, Sarah Sjostrom,
:35:28. > :35:34.gold in the 100m fly, silver in the 200m freestyle,
:35:35. > :35:39.and bronze in the 200m free. Speaking of absolute delight,
:35:40. > :35:53.this, for me, massively historic. The last time there was a tie
:35:54. > :35:56.at the Olympic Games in the women's It was two Americans,
:35:57. > :36:03.Nancy Hoggshead and Kerri Steinseffer, who dead-heated
:36:04. > :36:11.in Los Angeles. Olympic champions 100m freestyle,
:36:12. > :36:12.equal gold, Simone Manuel on the left,
:36:13. > :36:19.and Penny Oleksiak on the right. On the left, the first black woman
:36:20. > :36:22.ever to win an Olympic gold medal Her fourth Olympic medal
:36:23. > :36:31.at this championship. Well, they are both
:36:32. > :36:37.stunned, aren't they? Get together, double gold-medal
:36:38. > :36:48.celebration. I hope the floodgates open,
:36:49. > :36:51.because finally we've got a black lady on the top of the podium,
:36:52. > :36:54.and we've got a superhero now, and all those nations,
:36:55. > :37:00.all those island nations who can Goodness me, the future is very,
:37:01. > :37:10.very bright indeed. And that's only the first national
:37:11. > :38:31.anthem in this, the women's Now, for Penny Oleksiak,
:38:32. > :38:41.the national anthem of Canada. Canada and America standing on top
:38:42. > :39:59.of the podium, taking joint gold Penny Oleksiak, 16 years
:40:00. > :40:13.old and four medals at this No medals for Team GB
:40:14. > :40:19.in the pool this evening, but we do have a good chance
:40:20. > :40:22.tomorrow evening, because Jazz Stay with us tomorrow evening,
:40:23. > :40:28.join us in the house of fun. Thanks for your company,
:40:29. > :40:33.and thank you for staying with us. Great Britain won their
:40:34. > :40:44.third straight gold Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes,
:40:45. > :40:48.Callum Skinner doing But Great Britain had to settle
:40:49. > :40:56.for silver in the inaugural men's rugby sevens competition
:40:57. > :40:59.after being completely blown away That is a first ever Olympic medal
:41:00. > :41:07.for the Flying Fijians. Rower Katherine Granger became
:41:08. > :41:11.Britain's most decorated female Olympian, picking up a silver
:41:12. > :41:15.alongside Vicky Thornley Also, a medal for David Florence
:41:16. > :41:25.and Richard Hounslow for the second consecutive Olympics
:41:26. > :41:33.in the C2 slalom event. And Michael Phelps won the 200m
:41:34. > :41:38.individual medley and became the first swimmer in history to win
:41:39. > :41:42.the same title at four Gold number 22 for the
:41:43. > :41:54.incredible American. Michael Phelps would be tenth
:41:55. > :42:12.in the table if he was a country! Lots of action taking place on day
:42:13. > :42:16.seven, 24 gold medals to be won. If you're watching our replay,
:42:17. > :42:21.Hazel will be with you in a moment. Fencing, Richard Kruse narrowly
:42:22. > :42:23.missed out on a medal Britain are the defending
:42:24. > :42:30.champions in team dressage. One of Britain's bankers
:42:31. > :42:37.in these Games is in rowing, Helen Glover and Heather
:42:38. > :42:48.Stanning going for gold. Day seven sees the start
:42:49. > :42:51.of athletics. 42-year-old Jo Pavey will become
:42:52. > :42:53.the first British track athlete And Sir Bradley Wiggins will be
:42:54. > :42:59.the first Briton to attempt to win That is it, another golden day
:43:00. > :43:06.for Great Britain and for some bloke That's it from us,
:43:07. > :43:49.but the superstars are on their way. Everybody's on their feet! Come on,
:43:50. > :43:52.Mo Farah! Greg Rutherford is the Olympic
:43:53. > :44:07.champion! Jessica Ennis is
:44:08. > :44:11.the Olympic champion! The best all-round
:44:12. > :44:18.athlete in the world! Have you ever seen
:44:19. > :44:24.anything like that?
