:00:52. > :01:06.Timing is everything. A train of bikes cutting clean through the

:01:07. > :01:08.frenzied Velodrome. Rotating imperfect synchronisation. Change is

:01:09. > :01:15.choreographed to the beat. The exact beat. To eke out every tenth, 100th

:01:16. > :01:28.of a second. Timing is everything. It is one of the most exciting

:01:29. > :01:35.cycling races, the men's team pursuit. Four kilometres they

:01:36. > :01:38.travel, head-to-head and Great Britain have qualified fastest.

:01:39. > :01:42.Bradley Wiggins is searching for an eighth Olympic medal and a fifth

:01:43. > :01:46.gold medal and the eighth Olympic medal would put him ahead of Sir

:01:47. > :01:51.Chris Hoy as the most successful British Olympian ever. This is the

:01:52. > :01:57.timetable. We will show you the qualifying for the men's individual

:01:58. > :02:01.sprint, including Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner, part of the team who

:02:02. > :02:12.won a gold medal last night. Hockey on BBC Four. On BBC One, the

:02:13. > :02:19.quarterfinals in the team pursuit. We will also show you everything

:02:20. > :02:23.that has been happening. In the past 20 minutes Great Britain have

:02:24. > :02:29.celebrated two silver medals, one in dressage and the other in

:02:30. > :02:33.trampoline. As Bryony Page did the routine I asked Chris Hoy if he had

:02:34. > :02:40.a trampoline in the garden. You said? I will get one soon. I love

:02:41. > :02:44.it. It was fantastic. I love the unexpected medals, like the rugby

:02:45. > :02:49.sevens. You see the emotion on their faces and what it means. The

:02:50. > :02:54.surprise. Fans watch the TV performances and think they must

:02:55. > :02:58.expect the medals but you can see it was a surprise for Bryony Page. In

:02:59. > :03:05.terms of tonight, what are your predictions? Men's sprint,

:03:06. > :03:08.convocation, Jason Kenny is the defending Olympic champion and

:03:09. > :03:13.hearing what he has done in trading I think he could break the Olympic

:03:14. > :03:19.record. Callum Skinner, after last night, his morale will be so high

:03:20. > :03:24.and he could be top four, top five potentially. Within's team sprint.

:03:25. > :03:31.China are the favourites. Great Britain do not have a team in that.

:03:32. > :03:36.Russia are contenders. Germany, defending champions are potentially

:03:37. > :03:38.in the medals but the big story is the team pursuit. Sir Bradley

:03:39. > :03:45.Wiggins going for an eighth Olympic medal and let's not forget Ed

:03:46. > :03:50.Clancy, Steven Burke and Owain Doull. When you have two cycling

:03:51. > :03:59.Knights of the realm, it makes sense they should interview each other.

:04:00. > :04:05.Good to see you. Things are good? Yes. That good, I might carry on!

:04:06. > :04:13.COMMENTATOR: Bradley Wiggins wins the gold medal! I remember watching

:04:14. > :04:17.you the first time. You were a typical teenager, long arms and

:04:18. > :04:22.legs. A little bit awkward, no offence. You got on the bike and

:04:23. > :04:25.everybody who saw you thought this kid is going somewhere. Did you

:04:26. > :04:31.think you would go on to achieve what you have achieved? It is easy

:04:32. > :04:36.to look back and say, I always knew I would. I had no other thought

:04:37. > :04:40.process than going to the Olympics in 2000, I will go to the Tour de

:04:41. > :04:45.France and wear the yellow jersey and I will win an Olympics gold

:04:46. > :04:50.medal and be a professional cyclist. I was either stupid or delusional.

:04:51. > :04:54.Fortunately I have done that. I do not know what my mum was thinking

:04:55. > :05:00.letting me do that. What was Sydney like, your first Olympics? Mind

:05:01. > :05:05.blowing, still. It gives me goose bumps thinking about it. The bronze

:05:06. > :05:10.medal goes to Great Britain. I remember thinking, that is it, I am

:05:11. > :05:14.20 years old and I have an Olympic medal and whatever happens, the rest

:05:15. > :05:19.of my life, I can always say not that I have just been to the

:05:20. > :05:26.Olympics, I have an Olympic medal. I remember thinking, I know what I

:05:27. > :05:31.want to do for the next ball years. Bradley Wiggins wins the gold medal.

:05:32. > :05:36.The tears come. I have not cried since then at a track cycling

:05:37. > :05:42.competition. A lot of it is you get one shot every four years. That is

:05:43. > :05:47.what is special. Beijing, you shot to stardom. For me, the pursuit was

:05:48. > :05:51.almost a formality and I was trying to win three. You would come back to

:05:52. > :05:56.the village, chuck it in the drawer and forget about it. Team pursuit,

:05:57. > :06:01.another gold medal, put it in the draw. The Madison, I was empty by

:06:02. > :06:13.then and we lost it. It was huge disappointment. Most people with

:06:14. > :06:24.thing, two go medals, how can you not be elated? Because you won

:06:25. > :06:27.three! Then, all year, I thought I might have to sacrifice the Olympics

:06:28. > :06:32.with the Tour de France and I won it and ten days later went to the

:06:33. > :06:37.Olympic Games and I knew I had to execute the ride I had done.

:06:38. > :06:43.Wiggins, the winner of the Tour de France! He is the Olympic champion.

:06:44. > :06:48.I said at the time, that is it, it will not get better. And Dave was

:06:49. > :06:53.behind me saying, calm down, don't say that, you can do other things. I

:06:54. > :06:56.said, it will not get better, those things to come together like that

:06:57. > :07:04.coming credible. Could you enjoy it afterwards? Was it to manic? I

:07:05. > :07:08.enjoyed it. The first week after, I had bodyguards, the Metropolitan

:07:09. > :07:14.Police follow me down. I don't get bodyguards. I do. A chauffeured car.

:07:15. > :07:19.I was hanging out with rock stars. And I thought I'd better go home and

:07:20. > :07:22.get back to reality. And when I went home I thought I want Mac to stop

:07:23. > :07:27.and go back to how it was and I realised you cannot turn it off like

:07:28. > :07:31.a switch. Subsequently I had a massive dip that summer. I wanted to

:07:32. > :07:37.come back to the track and I started to come back in here. Do you still

:07:38. > :07:42.have the same confidence you had after the worlds in London? I

:07:43. > :07:47.believe in the group. I believe in what the guys are doing and I cannot

:07:48. > :07:52.see anyone else in the world that can beat my team of guys. How much

:07:53. > :07:56.of a motivation is the thought of becoming the most decorated

:07:57. > :08:02.Olympian? Not so much that, I will be honest. That has never been a

:08:03. > :08:09.motivation. I always thought five times Olympic champion is a nice

:08:10. > :08:12.number. Better six! It is interesting. The total medals

:08:13. > :08:19.thing, it does not mean much to him does it? He is motivated by winning.

:08:20. > :08:23.You can see that and hear it in the way he talks. He is not thinking

:08:24. > :08:28.about a silver medal, bronze medal, he wants to be first to cross the

:08:29. > :08:32.line tonight. He takes risks. To be successful on the road and the first

:08:33. > :08:38.British cyclist to win the Tour de France, to come back to the track,

:08:39. > :08:43.how different a skill is that? It is very different. It was not the only

:08:44. > :08:50.option he had. He could have continued on the road but I do not

:08:51. > :08:53.think he enjoyed himself on the road and that makes it hard to continue

:08:54. > :09:00.performing at the same level. Coming back to the track it gave him a

:09:01. > :09:05.breath of fresh air, it was a new challenge, going back to the

:09:06. > :09:11.beginning of his career. He is more relaxed now, 2012, 2013 phase of his

:09:12. > :09:17.career, that was and now he is having a great time. He is 36 years

:09:18. > :09:21.old and he is six foot three and there is a rule in track cycling if

:09:22. > :09:27.you are over six foot two, you get an extra five centimetres? I had

:09:28. > :09:32.forgotten that. I know it's because they were checking things last

:09:33. > :09:37.night. It is to do with dimensions of the bike and if you are over a

:09:38. > :09:45.certain height, they put in between numbers to restrict positions. A

:09:46. > :09:50.famous Scottish cyclist who was champion, world record holder, he

:09:51. > :09:53.designed a position where the arms are in front of you like Superman

:09:54. > :09:57.and because of that and the advantage gained from the position

:09:58. > :10:01.they banned it and putting restrictions you could not have

:10:02. > :10:06.extensions on the handlebars but if you have someone who is five foot

:10:07. > :10:10.four, they could get the Superman position on the bike designed for a

:10:11. > :10:15.six foot plus persons so they have regulations based on height and

:10:16. > :10:20.dimensions. They were double-checking this with Bradley

:10:21. > :10:25.yesterday. Was he annoyed they were even checking? He is not going to

:10:26. > :10:28.have got shorter in the past year, he is the same height as he was at

:10:29. > :10:33.the World Championships in fabric, so it was strange, that they are

:10:34. > :10:40.making sure they will take all the boxes. Maybe somebody wanted to beat

:10:41. > :10:43.Bradley Wiggins! How were the team gelling in qualification? We

:10:44. > :10:50.predicted faster times from the team pursuit nations but based on the

:10:51. > :10:54.team sprint times. This shape of track suits the spread dynamics

:10:55. > :10:58.better than the endurance. It is complicated to explain but in

:10:59. > :11:03.essence the team pursuit teams are not going as quick as expected. 51.9

:11:04. > :11:12.from the GB team, we thought that was good but the Australians might

:11:13. > :11:14.do it quicker but they did 355. The GB team looks super impressive

:11:15. > :11:19.compared to the other nations. Bradley was the first to pull out.

:11:20. > :11:23.He was not the strongest in the quartet but he was not struggling.

:11:24. > :11:28.When you see the time they did in relation to the other nations you

:11:29. > :11:31.realise how special that was. They will take a confidence boost from

:11:32. > :11:35.qualifying and the next round is about getting into the final, not

:11:36. > :11:41.wasting energy and the final will be a showdown, the matter who they are

:11:42. > :11:50.against, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, it will be a battle. When

:11:51. > :11:56.they won the Championships, he said we will win a gold medal in Rio. Was

:11:57. > :12:01.that because they knew they could physically improve or was it

:12:02. > :12:06.psychology? It was everything. Ed Clancy had just come back from a

:12:07. > :12:10.severe back injury, having an operation not long before the World

:12:11. > :12:15.Championships. Bradley was making the transition still so he has

:12:16. > :12:20.improved massively since then. The bikes, they have kept everything

:12:21. > :12:27.together for these Games. That makes a difference. We are going to join

:12:28. > :12:32.the qualifying for the individual sprint and Callum Skinner, a key

:12:33. > :12:36.part of the team gold medal yesterday, would you give him a

:12:37. > :12:40.chance in the individual event? He was top eight in the world and that

:12:41. > :12:45.was his best performance in the sprint and with the morale he will

:12:46. > :12:50.have after last night, anything is possible. I expect Jason to be

:12:51. > :12:55.quickest but if Cal is in the top four, I would not be surprised.

:12:56. > :13:01.Shortly you will see Callum Skinner and Jason Kenny, who will be the

:13:02. > :13:06.last cyclist on the track. Simon Brotherton and Chris Boardman can

:13:07. > :13:19.explain how this works. We are watching Njisane Phillip. He

:13:20. > :13:27.was a crowd favourite in London four years ago. You could sense the crowd

:13:28. > :13:31.warning to him. He is playing up to them, a flamboyant rider. To give

:13:32. > :13:36.you an idea of what they are doing, the shape of the track, they have

:13:37. > :13:41.five metres in height they want to conserve. They store energy in the

:13:42. > :13:47.track. They will hold the fence as long as they can during the

:13:48. > :13:53.build-up. And they will wait until as late as they dare and trade of

:13:54. > :13:57.distance. It is 12 metres further around the outside the track and

:13:58. > :14:02.they will trade distance to get height and speed. Timing is

:14:03. > :14:10.everything will stop they are timing the final 200 metres. We will show

:14:11. > :14:16.you where it is. The Colombian, he takes the bell. The final 200 metres

:14:17. > :14:22.are timed. When he goes over the white line, it sets the order for

:14:23. > :14:31.the competition. 27 riders in the competition. 18 go through. Coming

:14:32. > :14:38.up towards the line. Puerta Inside the ten second mark. A lot of riders

:14:39. > :14:44.have shaved inside the magic barrier and it is a magic barrier. We will

:14:45. > :14:49.see I think 10.7s at least from the best of the pack. It will be

:14:50. > :14:54.interesting to see what Callum Skinner can come up with. He had

:14:55. > :14:58.that wonderful night last night on the anchor leg in the team sprint.

:14:59. > :15:06.The gold medal safely in his pocket already. He was fifth quickest in

:15:07. > :15:09.qualifying for the event at the World Championships. 9.82 for and

:15:10. > :16:02.got through to the quarterfinals. We said it would be 9.7s and we

:16:03. > :16:09.hoped for that. Very big year he looked to be using and it paid off

:16:10. > :16:18.in the second part of the ride. Interesting to hear what Sir Chris

:16:19. > :16:25.Hoy will say about that -- gear. He has pure speed and staying power. A

:16:26. > :16:28.European kilometre champion as well. Plenty of British support inside the

:16:29. > :16:42.Velodrome and the noise level going up. Max

:16:43. > :16:47.Levy from Germany, a four-time world champion. Technically excellent as

:16:48. > :17:27.well. Very consistent. It does not look like somebody who

:17:28. > :17:39.is trying to get it all out. He will be disappointed. Pavel Kelemen on

:17:40. > :17:44.the track. A national sprint champion a couple of years ago.

:17:45. > :17:50.Looking to see if he can mix it with the big boys in terms of times.

:17:51. > :17:54.These times, they set the seeding order for the draw and if you are at

:17:55. > :17:59.the top of the leaderboard at the end of qualifying, in theory you

:18:00. > :18:04.have an easier route for the rest of the competition. It sends a message

:18:05. > :18:14.to the rest of the field who is on form. It might be a while before the

:18:15. > :18:22.time to beat is touched. The clocks have disappeared at the moment.

:18:23. > :18:36.Pavel Kelemen, six fastest. Callum Skinner still leads the way. That is

:18:37. > :18:41.where they stop the timer. -- start. Next on the track the Commonwealth

:18:42. > :18:45.champion and two-time world champion in the team sprint, including

:18:46. > :18:50.currently, beaten in the final last night. Sam Webster with a silver

:18:51. > :18:57.medal already from these Games. Can he be a threat in the match sprint?

:18:58. > :19:02.He will be disappointed. He has the form but will the disappointment and

:19:03. > :19:14.fuel or ballast? We will find out now. As Chris was explaining, he is

:19:15. > :19:18.hugging the top of the track. The intensity now. The clock is on on

:19:19. > :19:24.the Commonwealth champion from New Zealand. The time to beat, that of

:19:25. > :19:33.Callum Skinner. Webster, fourth quickest. Certainly a lot of passion

:19:34. > :19:40.went into that ride. He got everything out. A strong build-up.

:19:41. > :19:53.Callum Skinner finished off the ride well. That bodes well for the

:19:54. > :19:59.competition. Once we get into the matchups, your tactics and wiliness

:20:00. > :20:04.are a factor. It is a real blend, amazing what goes through a

:20:05. > :20:09.sprinter's mind, judging distance and height. Everything has to be

:20:10. > :20:13.weighed up, travelling over 70 kilometres per hour, and often

:20:14. > :20:17.bouncing off your opponent. Once they get through this round, that is

:20:18. > :20:30.why it is important to get a good seed. Pat Constable riding in his

:20:31. > :20:36.first Olympic Games. He was also in the team sprint last night.

:20:37. > :20:45.Australia pipped for a bronze medal. Can he put the disappointment behind

:20:46. > :20:50.him here? We are about to find out. His time good enough only for tenth

:20:51. > :20:56.place so far. It looks like the track is not necessarily running

:20:57. > :21:01.fast. We can show you how fast Callum Skinner went to break the

:21:02. > :21:08.record. Quite remarkable. Travelling over 70 kilometres per hour.

:21:09. > :21:11.Experiencing 2.5 G-forces as they go around the bend. It shows the strain

:21:12. > :21:18.it puts on them and the equipment and how strong the bikes have to be.

:21:19. > :21:24.Eddie Dawkins was on the other side of the track when Callum Skinner was

:21:25. > :21:27.racing on the final lap. It was his 27th birthday, but did not quite

:21:28. > :21:35.celebrated in the way he would have hoped.

:21:36. > :21:41.Driving down to the #40e8 straight. Choosing the line. Blending between

:21:42. > :21:45.the shortest distance and keeping the height for the speed.

:21:46. > :21:50.Here comes Dawkins now. Halfway through the ride. Round the banking.

:21:51. > :21:56.Into the finishing straight. Is it a good one? I think it will be it is

:21:57. > :22:02.probably good for fifth fastest on the leaderboard. Dawkins. New

:22:03. > :22:06.Zealand. A really tough competitor. 11th fastest in qualifying at the

:22:07. > :22:15.World Championships a few months ago with a 9.9. So a little quicker.

:22:16. > :22:20.Just six riders to come, including Jason Kenny. He will be the last

:22:21. > :22:26.rider to go. Xu Chao from China now. A

:22:27. > :22:32.21-year-old on the track. I am not sure what he is capable of.

:22:33. > :22:38.Three silver medals in the Asian sprinter championship events

:22:39. > :22:41.earlier. Losing in the final in Korea.

:22:42. > :22:46.So perhaps a bit of a step up in class here.

:22:47. > :22:52.The start order determined by the world ranking position. But also the

:22:53. > :22:56.UCI give themselves dispensation to make sure that the seeded and the

:22:57. > :23:03.best riders on the day will go last. . So, Xu Chao for China. Out to post

:23:04. > :23:10.a good time. The Chinese women are riding well in the women's team

:23:11. > :23:23.sprint today. The time to beat is 9. .803. Inside 10 seconds.

:23:24. > :23:28.A lot sliding inside the 10 seconds. 11 so as far. But Callum Skinner is

:23:29. > :23:33.far and away the quickest at the moment. More than a tenth than

:23:34. > :23:39.Gregory Bauge. As he winds down. They have a fixed

:23:40. > :23:48.gear on the bikes. So it takes a while to slow down. This is Jeffrey

:23:49. > :23:54.Hoogland. The third fastest in qualifying at the World

:23:55. > :23:59.Championships. He did a 9.767. It will take a bit of wiping up with

:24:00. > :24:05.this gear. And stopping once he has wounded it

:24:06. > :24:14.up. That is what he is doing now. Wait for the bell.

:24:15. > :24:21.Holds his height late. Coming down. A nice line there.

:24:22. > :24:29.Hoogland motoring. Turning a massive gear. Here he comes. Hoogland for

:24:30. > :24:34.the Dutch. Only fourth place. Nobody coming throws to the time of Callum

:24:35. > :24:40.Skinner, it must be said. I thought we would see a raft of 10

:24:41. > :24:45.sevens here. But it is not the case. It is cooler than last night. The

:24:46. > :24:50.temperature as well as the air pressure has a difference in the

:24:51. > :24:59.density. An experienced rider here. Damian

:25:00. > :25:03.Zielinski from Poland. He road in London four years ago.

:25:04. > :25:28.He has had a good year. Fourth in the World Championship. Losing

:25:29. > :25:35.to the Russian rider, Denis Dmitriev.

:25:36. > :25:43.About five metres of height. Has he left it too late? He has

:25:44. > :25:49.lightening legs. But it is a fast first 100m. Can he hold the speed?

:25:50. > :25:58.Not quite. Another 9.le. Good enough for fourth place.

:25:59. > :26:01.-- another 9.8. So, Zielinski fourth quickest with

:26:02. > :26:13.three to go. They do not hang around. While he is

:26:14. > :26:18.winding down. There is the Russian rider, Denis Dmitriev. He has twice

:26:19. > :26:22.lost the championship final in the match sprint. He is one to keep an

:26:23. > :26:27.eye on. He slid under 9.8 seconds a the

:26:28. > :26:31.World Championships in qualifying. Let's see if he has managed to hold

:26:32. > :26:38.or better his form. A real pedigree. Two silver medals

:26:39. > :26:46.and two bronze medals in the World Championships. And another

:26:47. > :26:54.experienced rider. Just like Zielinski, the Pole.

:26:55. > :26:57.Here we go, the effort for Denis Dmitriev as we set the qualification

:26:58. > :27:04.order for the match sprint in the men's competition. Up to the line,

:27:05. > :27:10.9.774. The second quickest but it is still Skinner in front.

:27:11. > :27:20.Well, a solid ride by home. Almost the same as the world performance.

:27:21. > :27:26.He was just 2,000ths of a second different to that on that occasion.

:27:27. > :27:32.A beg your pardon, it is slightly quicker. Glaetzer. This could be

:27:33. > :27:36.interesting. He was the silver-medallist in the

:27:37. > :27:41.World Championship. Losing the final to Jason Kenny.

:27:42. > :27:44.It went to three rounds. He is a rider on the up at 23 years

:27:45. > :27:49.of age. Very much but I think that Kenny

:27:50. > :27:52.will do something special here. He looked in great form in the team

:27:53. > :28:00.sprint. The confident body language showing he had more to come.

:28:01. > :28:04.A great position of Matt Glaetzer as he crouches down over the

:28:05. > :28:10.handlebars. Wiping it up before the final lap. Here we go, this is a man

:28:11. > :28:12.who is business. He has very much his eye on the Gold Medal at the

:28:13. > :28:22.Olympic Games. Down the back straight. Look at that. Nice lying

:28:23. > :28:28.low. Around to the edge of the track and for Glaetzer a 9.704. 1,000th of

:28:29. > :28:35.a second slower than Callum Skinner! It is what we expect of a rider of

:28:36. > :28:40.his passion. Putting out that power. Maybe

:28:41. > :28:48.2.5,000 watts and holding that. It must have taken a lot of work. But

:28:49. > :28:51.he has realised that these speeds, the aerodynamics is so, so

:28:52. > :28:57.important. No doubt he bought his A game. As

:28:58. > :29:02.did Jason Kenny, winning his fourth Olympic Gold Medal. Jason Kenny, the

:29:03. > :29:06.defending Olympic champion. He has shown he is on fantastic

:29:07. > :29:11.form. Already with a Gold Medal. So he too has got the insurance in the

:29:12. > :29:17.bank. He is out to see what he is capable of here.

:29:18. > :29:23.Jason Kenny. A lap-and-a-half to go. Slowly he winds it up. Around the

:29:24. > :29:28.top of the boards. Here we go. The clock will start when he gets to

:29:29. > :29:34.the white line. It is about the final 200. Jason Kenny is into the

:29:35. > :29:41.ride. Can he set the fastest time or is it Callum Skinner that leads the

:29:42. > :29:45.way. Listen to the roar, 9. .511 and the Olympic record has gone for the

:29:46. > :29:51.second time tonight in qualifying and both British riders have been

:29:52. > :29:54.the men to do it. Well, a collective groan coming from

:29:55. > :29:59.the infield and the other competitors. The British team has

:30:00. > :30:03.done this on two previous Olympics. They have come to form at exactly

:30:04. > :30:11.the right moment. We have seen glimpses of it. Well, big signs of

:30:12. > :30:17.it in the team sprint event. The confidence shown by Jason Kenny to

:30:18. > :30:22.get on top of Philip Hindes. Confidence and in the build-up he

:30:23. > :30:29.waited and waited and he looked comfortable. Diving down the track.

:30:30. > :30:33.No desperation at all. I agree. Considering how fast he was

:30:34. > :30:39.travelling he looked remarkably comfortable. Both Jason Kenny and

:30:40. > :30:45.Callum Skinner producing wonderful rides in the qualifiers. But a long

:30:46. > :30:48.way to go. It merely sets the seeding order but it lays down the

:30:49. > :30:53.marker. A step at a time. 73.7 kilometres an

:30:54. > :31:01.hour, and you know you are on the way.

:31:02. > :31:13.There we, Kenny and Skinner. Glaetzer not far away. And Denis

:31:14. > :31:18.Dmitriev rounding up the top four. The most important thing about the

:31:19. > :31:23.qualification is that hopefully Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner will

:31:24. > :31:29.not meet each other until the medal race? No, there should not be.

:31:30. > :31:34.If they keep winning, they will not see each other to the fine. That

:31:35. > :31:39.would be a fantastic problem. How impressed were you with the

:31:40. > :31:44.performance? And surprised at how badly some of the other riders

:31:45. > :31:49.performed? It is weird when you see other nations do the four year

:31:50. > :31:54.Olympic cycle at such a high level and eve at the World Championships,

:31:55. > :31:59.some of the riders were going two or three tenths quicker and to the

:32:00. > :32:04.biggest race of their lives and they are underperforming. The GB team

:32:05. > :32:12.have raised the game when it counts. It is peaking when it counts. To see

:32:13. > :32:17.Callum there, I expected Jason to do a 9.5. Callum a 9.70. The confidence

:32:18. > :32:21.he must have now. This is incredible. To see the two of them

:32:22. > :32:26.at the top of the qualification table. It is just fantastic.

:32:27. > :32:32.Well we will discuss how it is Britain manages to peak at the right

:32:33. > :32:35.time later with Chris. But we had an unexpected and welcome silver medal

:32:36. > :32:41.coming from the sport of trampolining. The first time ever

:32:42. > :32:46.that a British athlete has won at the trampoline in either the worlds

:32:47. > :32:50.and the Olympics. Keep an eye on her. I am not sure she realises

:32:51. > :32:57.where she is walking or where she needs to be on the podium for the

:32:58. > :33:00.silver. But a huge moment. Very emotionm after a stunning

:33:01. > :33:08.performance. After receiving her medal she spoke to David McDaid.

:33:09. > :33:14.Bryony Page, I would like you to look down there. That is an Olympic

:33:15. > :33:21.silver medal you have around your neck, how does it feel? Absolutely

:33:22. > :33:26.amazing. I cannot believe it. I am so happy. I cannot believe I have

:33:27. > :33:32.won an Olympic medal. I am speechless, I cannot believe it! You

:33:33. > :33:40.were excited getting to the final. You made history in so many ways

:33:41. > :33:45.today. I am happy I got to share final with Kat. One person in the

:33:46. > :33:50.final would have made history and we got two and a medal, it is

:33:51. > :33:54.incredible. Wow, I do not know what to say. When you've finished your

:33:55. > :33:59.routine you were in tears. Did you know you were in with a chance? I

:34:00. > :34:05.had no idea it was medal potential but it was the best I could have

:34:06. > :34:11.done, which is why I was so happy. I wanted to go out there and smash it

:34:12. > :34:17.and I did that. I was happy that the hard work and training has paid off.

:34:18. > :34:23.An Olympic silver medal, it is unbelievable. I cannot believe it.

:34:24. > :34:28.That is Great Britain's second silver medal to add to the team

:34:29. > :34:32.dressage and two gold medals in the rowing. Wonderful for Bryony Page

:34:33. > :34:37.and I know so many kids in particular will have watched that

:34:38. > :34:42.and be saying, I want to be an Olympian, maybe I can do it on the

:34:43. > :34:47.trampoline. Go to the BBC website, it will tell you how to get involved

:34:48. > :34:52.with your club. If sailing is your thing, and a lot of people, it is,

:34:53. > :34:58.let's get the latest update from Shirley Robertson. A difficult day

:34:59. > :35:07.again in terms of the weather. What has been happening? It was raining

:35:08. > :35:11.this morning. The action kicked off really late. It is almost sunset and

:35:12. > :35:19.we are still racing but potentially good news. Nick Dempsey, the men's

:35:20. > :35:24.windsurfer, subject to confirmation, he has secured a silver medal. He is

:35:25. > :35:30.racing now. The gold medal will go to the Dutch sailor who won a gold

:35:31. > :35:36.medal in London 2012. Nick Dempsey started his series with a blinder,

:35:37. > :35:42.leading till halfway through but Dorian came back in the closing

:35:43. > :35:47.stages. I am half remembering, I think he won bronze medal before. Is

:35:48. > :35:52.that his best result? He had a silver medal in London at his home

:35:53. > :35:58.Games and a bronze medal in Athens. It is his this Olympics and he will

:35:59. > :36:02.retire after this. He will be disappointed he could not match

:36:03. > :36:05.Dorian but the pair of them were head and shoulders above the rest of

:36:06. > :36:12.the fleet and he put in a performance he could be proud of. A

:36:13. > :36:19.quick word on Nick Thompson, how is he doing? He is sailing out of the

:36:20. > :36:24.ocean. He is off Copacabana. I think he has had a mixed day but I am

:36:25. > :36:29.currently sitting by the 470s and we are leading in the men and the women

:36:30. > :36:35.and so a lot of things to shout about from the bay. Fantastic.

:36:36. > :36:39.Thanks to Shirley Robertson, herself an Olympic champion for Great

:36:40. > :36:44.Britain. And if you want to watch the sailing I am sure it is one of

:36:45. > :36:50.the 24 you can follow individually but if you want to watch hockey, it

:36:51. > :36:54.is on BBC Four. Great Britain men have to win this and they would

:36:55. > :36:58.still be dependent on the results to get through to the knockout stages.

:36:59. > :37:02.The Great Britain men have not started well and they must win this

:37:03. > :37:09.and win it by as far as possible. That is currently on BBC Four. We

:37:10. > :37:14.are not far away from the team pursuit. It will be an interesting

:37:15. > :37:17.evening in the Velodrome as Sir Bradley Wiggins tries to win what

:37:18. > :37:22.would be a fifth gold medal and eighth medal in total along with his

:37:23. > :37:30.team-mates. How does team pursuit work?

:37:31. > :37:34.Chris Boardman can explain. The team pursuit is an event that requires

:37:35. > :37:39.superb handling skills and enormous athletic prowess but what decides

:37:40. > :37:41.the outcome of the event is a aerodynamic understanding and

:37:42. > :37:48.physics. Take it away, Charlie. Once out of

:37:49. > :37:51.the starting gates and up to speed they alternate between high-powered

:37:52. > :37:56.turns on the front and sheltering behind team-mates. On the front of a

:37:57. > :38:00.top team travelling at more than 63 kilometres per hour the lead rider

:38:01. > :38:05.has to produce more than 800 watts of power to push through the air,

:38:06. > :38:10.and to put that in perspective, on a leisurely ride in the park you

:38:11. > :38:12.produce five times less than that. Once they have done a term they

:38:13. > :38:15.moved to the back and into shelter and how they do that is quite

:38:16. > :38:20.clever. Rather than slow drop to the back

:38:21. > :38:24.and use energy reserves accelerating, they use the shape of

:38:25. > :38:28.the track to effect the change. Moving up the bank is like riding up

:38:29. > :38:33.a hill and the rider will slow down and at the same time the shape of

:38:34. > :38:40.the bend means they will travel further. The more speed is scrubbed

:38:41. > :38:44.off. If the trajectory is right, gravity will bring them back down

:38:45. > :38:49.within millimetres of the last rider's wheel. The manoeuvre will

:38:50. > :38:53.take less than two seconds. If they get calculations wrong, they will

:38:54. > :38:56.have to expend precious energy getting onto the back or even lose

:38:57. > :39:00.contact altogether. The team pursuit, a blend of

:39:01. > :39:06.physical ability, technical skill and science.

:39:07. > :39:15.Great Britain's team qualified fastest in the knockout stages. In

:39:16. > :39:18.terms of how it works now, two teams on the track at the same time with

:39:19. > :39:22.Great Britain up against New Zealand. Is it straight knockout or

:39:23. > :39:29.do the Times matter? For the first two heats you have to to Windows to

:39:30. > :39:37.make it into the gold medal stage. The fastest two the six will make it

:39:38. > :39:40.into the bronze medal ride. They have to be first to cross the line

:39:41. > :39:46.and they are in the final. Knowing Bradley Wiggins, what is he like in

:39:47. > :39:51.terms of motivating the team? He has to get the best out of everybody

:39:52. > :39:58.else. He has his big headphones on. I do not think you will find him

:39:59. > :40:03.giving pep talks. These guys are experienced. They do not need

:40:04. > :40:08.last-minute chats. It will be a tap on the back, a handshake, just a

:40:09. > :40:15.look sometimes, to let the others know they are OK. They are looking

:40:16. > :40:18.calm. I am sure the next will be a routine ride. It will require every

:40:19. > :40:23.last ounce of their mental and physical strength stopped Ed Clancy,

:40:24. > :40:29.on the right, has come back from a back injury, making it to the world

:40:30. > :40:34.track Championships. Is he an unsung hero of the team?

:40:35. > :40:39.Definitely. Bradley reckons he is one of the greatest athletes he has

:40:40. > :40:44.trained and raced against. He is halfway between a sprint and

:40:45. > :40:49.injure in South Beach. He made the transition to the sprint team to

:40:50. > :40:52.take my position and was in the World Championships in 2013, doing a

:40:53. > :41:02.very good job but his heart is in the team pursuit. He has a fantastic

:41:03. > :41:08.turn of pace. He can do one minute flat in a time trial. He has sprint

:41:09. > :41:11.capabilities you would not expect from an endurance athlete. Steven

:41:12. > :41:16.Burke won bronze medal in the individual pursuit in Beijing and

:41:17. > :41:22.part of the team that won a gold medal in London with Ed Clancy,

:41:23. > :41:27.Peter Kenyan and Geraint Thomas. They are coming in here with

:41:28. > :41:31.expectation. This is not a case of, let's hope and if we win a silver

:41:32. > :41:36.medal, it is fine. None of them will be happy with anything but a gold

:41:37. > :41:43.medal. It is always billed as the Aussie versus GB showdown. The World

:41:44. > :41:47.Championships, it whet the appetite of everybody because the Aussies

:41:48. > :41:53.beat the Brits on home soil. Nobody likes to lose when it is your home

:41:54. > :41:57.venue. I think it was the right results because if GB won, there

:41:58. > :42:04.might have been an element of we will be OK. Bradley was confident

:42:05. > :42:09.after defeat. They have done everything right. It is a controlled

:42:10. > :42:15.event. Predictable in terms of output and performance, but one

:42:16. > :42:20.thing you do not know... We are seeing Italy capture China. This can

:42:21. > :42:24.be quite dangerous at this point. Sometimes when teams pass other

:42:25. > :42:31.teams, if the team being caught does not realise, they can swing up and

:42:32. > :42:36.take the lots down. That looks so. It makes the formation move, the

:42:37. > :42:40.choreography of the rider peeling off and coming back down, it makes

:42:41. > :42:44.it difficult. Italy are going for a time, because it is important. If

:42:45. > :42:52.they can get a quick time they could potentially be in for the bronze

:42:53. > :42:56.medal. Tennis news. Rafa Nadal is through to the semifinals. Andy

:42:57. > :43:01.Murray is in the other half of the draw and will meet Gael Monfils or

:43:02. > :43:09.Kei Nishikori. I think Gael Monfils is one set up. We will be centred in

:43:10. > :43:14.the Velodrome. A huge amount of British support. You get the feeling

:43:15. > :43:20.that tourists in Brazil are suddenly realising if they come to Rio they

:43:21. > :43:25.can get tickets and get into venues, because they have not sold out. The

:43:26. > :43:30.capacity is 3000 and there are empty seats. We know there are many

:43:31. > :43:34.nations who are cycling mad and if they are in Brazil they will want to

:43:35. > :43:41.be here. You can see the amount of GB flags. If you fancy seeing some

:43:42. > :43:46.cycling, try to get tickets. Tonight, if you are sitting at home,

:43:47. > :43:51.we will hopefully show you Great Britain going for a gold medal in

:43:52. > :43:55.the team pursuit. We will pick it up with the commentary team of Simon

:43:56. > :44:02.Brotherton and Chris Boardman. Denmark and Australia are on the

:44:03. > :44:06.track next. Denmark were the second fastest team in qualifying

:44:07. > :44:11.yesterday. Getting the better of Australia. It means it will put

:44:12. > :44:17.pressure on the pair of them, but notably Australia, who are the world

:44:18. > :44:19.champions and more likely to have a tough race against their opponents

:44:20. > :44:27.than had they been quickest and raced a team who were fourth. That

:44:28. > :44:44.is why seeding is so important. They have made a late change. Australia,

:44:45. > :44:50.Alex Edmondson, Jack Bobridge, Callum Scotson and Sam Welsford.

:44:51. > :44:56.Callum Scotson has come in for Michael Hepburn. Here we go, 16 laps

:44:57. > :44:58.of the track and whoever wins this gets a chance to race for the gold

:44:59. > :45:13.medal later. Some gaps in the takenish four. Just

:45:14. > :45:16.getting under way nicely. Australians always off the mark

:45:17. > :45:22.quickly. But, here they are in arrears. Maybe

:45:23. > :45:25.Saturdaying from the ride yesterday. Deciding to save a little for the

:45:26. > :45:29.back end of the race where they struggled.

:45:30. > :45:36.Alex Edmondson taking over for Australia. Now, these two teams are

:45:37. > :45:40.likely to be evil matched, one assumes.

:45:41. > :45:44.It is the first round but the equivalent of the semi-final.

:45:45. > :45:45.The next time over the line they will have completed the first

:45:46. > :46:03.kilometre of the four. Let's see how quick they are.

:46:04. > :46:07.Denmark with the quicker time. Slightly faster than jeered. So all

:46:08. > :46:13.out for the two teams to decide who is going to take the spot.

:46:14. > :46:20.Sam Welsford leading for Australia. But Australia with work to do

:46:21. > :46:24.against the opponents. Denmark are well-drilled outlet. With a couple

:46:25. > :46:29.of young riders. Denmark are there or theres about in the podium in the

:46:30. > :46:34.championship without winning the world title.

:46:35. > :46:39.Normally Australia is the challenger but they have struggled at the

:46:40. > :46:43.Olympic Games. Off the pace. But I think this one may be decided on who

:46:44. > :46:49.makesth last mistakes. Australia are world champions in

:46:50. > :46:56.three of the last four years. On the front is Alex Edmondson. Annette

:46:57. > :47:02.racing in the women's team. A rival of Britain's Laura trot.

:47:03. > :47:07.They maybing in arrears but holding. They look the smoother of the two.

:47:08. > :47:10.Not that is everything to go by at the moment. Half a second in it,

:47:11. > :47:15.Chris. They are riding well as a unit.

:47:16. > :47:22.Learning lessons. Big turns going in. Technically, excellent, the

:47:23. > :47:26.Australians. Been mark working hard. Six laps to go.

:47:27. > :47:30.There is a waivering of the line in Denmark. Costing them. They will

:47:31. > :47:35.have to fight all the way. The Australians are looking smoother.

:47:36. > :47:41.They are pulling back ever so slightly.

:47:42. > :47:46.Australia very much in this one. Frederick Madsen is the man that has

:47:47. > :47:51.dropped out for Denmark. They have to stick together. The time is taken

:47:52. > :47:55.on the third rider to cross the line.

:47:56. > :47:59.They have the right three. They have pushed the advantage.

:48:00. > :48:05.Australia are really starting to struggle now. I don't think that

:48:06. > :48:09.there is strength in depth. But holding it half a second.

:48:10. > :48:14.Australia has been a surprise. The dominant force in the event for the

:48:15. > :48:18.last decade. Always on the podium. Now with two laps to go.

:48:19. > :48:21.A bad change for the Australians. But both teams starting to show the

:48:22. > :48:25.effects now. The Danish have a crack in the

:48:26. > :48:30.middle. That is more serious. Yes, they take the bell here. Who

:48:31. > :48:34.wants it the most? Who is going to make it into the Gold Medal race

:48:35. > :48:37.later on today? There is a big, big split in the Danish team. Australia

:48:38. > :48:41.are coming back strong. They are sticking together. They

:48:42. > :48:45.come up towards the line. Oh, Australia are pinching it at the

:48:46. > :48:52.last moment? And they have! Australia have got it.

:48:53. > :48:57.Australia 3.53. Well, they road as a team at the end of that race more

:48:58. > :49:02.than the Danes did. That is why they have won. Denmark were leading but

:49:03. > :49:05.fell apart at the seams in the last couple of laps.

:49:06. > :49:09.A better ride by the Australians. That is what we expect to see from

:49:10. > :49:15.them. They road well. Talking about it, it is what

:49:16. > :49:18.conserves the energy. The mistakes at these speeds are expense I have.

:49:19. > :49:41.A great ride and faster as well. Chris You were screaming there. Ten

:49:42. > :49:46.laps in it, and what happened? The split in the Danish team. It just

:49:47. > :49:52.showed you in the last possible seconds. You can see what the means

:49:53. > :49:55.to the Australians. They know from the coach's feedback that they were

:49:56. > :50:00.down. And here we go, though for Great

:50:01. > :50:04.Britain. Here we go, then. Great Britain

:50:05. > :50:13.facing New Zealand for the right to race for gold here.

:50:14. > :50:21.New Zealand with Peter Billing. Aaron Gate and Dylan Kennett and

:50:22. > :50:32.Regan Gough. They are going with the same team that road four years ago

:50:33. > :50:37.in London. There is Bradley Wiggins, Doull, Stephen Burke, and Ed Clancy.

:50:38. > :50:44.Britain almost broke the record yesterday. If they win this, they

:50:45. > :50:48.are going for gold. A slight strange in strategy.

:50:49. > :50:53.Bradley Wiggins did a long turn. So tweaking there. New Zealand are the

:50:54. > :50:56.underdogs but they will not go down without a fight.

:50:57. > :50:59.The British team go out strongly, getting into the lead and they do

:51:00. > :51:05.enough. We have to remember it is all about the final.

:51:06. > :51:09.Ed Clancy is the man one held up by the starer's gate. There is nothing

:51:10. > :51:14.else for it but a sharp, strong start. The Yorkshireman is cleanly

:51:15. > :51:30.out of the gate leading the way for Great Britain for the first lap with

:51:31. > :51:36.Stephen Burke on his wheel. OienDoull and Britain are leading.

:51:37. > :51:41.Still in it to 0.3 of a second but the British will ride on a world

:51:42. > :51:48.record schedule and then they will tailor it as they get their prey in

:51:49. > :51:52.sight. Stephen Burke has an Olympic gold

:51:53. > :51:57.already. Part of the quartet four years ago.

:51:58. > :52:01.Doull yet to win a major championship as part of the British

:52:02. > :52:06.team pursuit squad. And the first time that Bradley

:52:07. > :52:09.Wiggins has said he has rid no-one a team with complete parity. No

:52:10. > :52:12.strongman, everybody could do their part.

:52:13. > :52:17.Bradley Wiggins is a man who will want to play his part as he drags

:52:18. > :52:21.the team around the bottom of the track.

:52:22. > :52:23.Great Britain as you can see with the advantage of the best part of a

:52:24. > :52:38.second. They are on world record pace at the

:52:39. > :52:43.moment. They have to hold on for the final.

:52:44. > :52:46.That is the point of getting the qualifying in pole position, to do

:52:47. > :52:51.just enough to until it really matters.

:52:52. > :52:56.Ian Dwyer, as Bradley Wiggins continues to power. He has done his

:52:57. > :52:59.turn. He sweeps to the back of the line, tiedily.

:53:00. > :53:03.New Zealand hanging in there as best as they can. Remember it is not over

:53:04. > :53:08.until the final lap. Australia showed that. But it is starting to

:53:09. > :53:14.open up in Britain's favour. The New Zealanders are fighting

:53:15. > :53:17.hard. One second and aring the British team are on world record

:53:18. > :53:23.pace they are up on their schedule. That is no many feat.

:53:24. > :53:30.Great Britain are on course for the final.

:53:31. > :53:35.1.5 seconds. They are taking 2 tenths in a lap. This is where it

:53:36. > :53:40.tells. We can see on the faces that they are working hard.

:53:41. > :53:44.Doull doing a great turn on the front. The man from South Wales.

:53:45. > :53:50.Into the finishing straight they come. They have five laps to go. The

:53:51. > :53:54.gap is almost two seconds in Great Britain's favour.

:53:55. > :53:57.What a ride by New Zealand. Pushing the British team to go faster than

:53:58. > :54:02.yesterday, just outside the world record. They are pushing them. Not

:54:03. > :54:06.getting an easy ride. Four laps to go. Bradley Wiggins on the front for

:54:07. > :54:09.Great Britain. So far, so good. They have to bring it home to get into

:54:10. > :54:14.the final. New Zealand going down to three as

:54:15. > :54:19.well. The gap opening autumn the time.

:54:20. > :54:24.Almost 2.5 seconds. Britain only only have to stay upright.

:54:25. > :54:31.Bradley Wiggins has done a mammoth turn. So some tweaking done. He did

:54:32. > :54:36.a big and bailed out. Two laps to go, leading is Ed

:54:37. > :54:41.Clancy. He is on the front. Burke in the middle of the three with Doull

:54:42. > :54:46.coming into second place. They take the bell. Great Britain powering

:54:47. > :54:53.around the track in Rio. Halfway down the back straight. Riding into

:54:54. > :54:58.the final of the Olympic Games. Are they riding into a world record pace

:54:59. > :55:03.as well. We are about to find out as Britain cross the line and they have

:55:04. > :55:08.broken the world record! Sensational cycling here in Rio. Brilliant,

:55:09. > :55:12.brilliant stuff! I think that they had to work so hard for that. They

:55:13. > :55:17.got through and thought you know what, we may as well see what we can

:55:18. > :55:22.do. A more controlled ride. The nerves have gone. Not dipping under

:55:23. > :55:27.the magic 3.50. But I think that they will do.

:55:28. > :55:32.The Great Britain team are through in a world record time. They will

:55:33. > :55:37.race for gold later on this evening. That was a superb effort from start

:55:38. > :55:41.to finish, Chris? It was. They had the confidence with a 3.5 second

:55:42. > :55:47.buffer. But it was not given to them. They road more smoothly.

:55:48. > :55:54.Tweaking had been done. It was man two that had done a big turn

:55:55. > :56:01.yesterday. Ejecting too much pace at Burke. That they have pulled that

:56:02. > :56:07.back to allow Bradley Wiggins to do the sec long term before bailing

:56:08. > :56:11.out. A good strategy. The reaction of Ed Clancy, who has seen it and

:56:12. > :56:16.done it before never ridden as quickly as that. There is the

:56:17. > :56:25.confirmation. There is the time. Great Britain, a new world record.

:56:26. > :56:28.37570. They are through the final in the men's team pursuit.

:56:29. > :56:32.And the beautiful thing about the world record is how casual they

:56:33. > :56:38.looked as they came over the line, Chris?! They didn't even have to do

:56:39. > :56:55.that. It was a matter of winning the race. The quease pushed them. -- the

:56:56. > :57:03.Kiwis pushed them. Bradley Wiggins dropping away, leaving Clancy, Burke

:57:04. > :57:07.and Doull doing it so convincingly. Are smooth come paired to other

:57:08. > :57:11.teams. Bradley did a long spell. Bailed out when he realised he spent

:57:12. > :57:16.his effort and the three guys continued on to the finishing line.

:57:17. > :57:20.Again when crossing the line they did not look stressed at all. Such a

:57:21. > :57:23.measured performance. So well drilled that they all look so

:57:24. > :57:28.smooth. It is hard to see them getting beat

:57:29. > :57:32.no-one the final. Not only gaining huge confidence but

:57:33. > :57:38.is sends a massive message to the rest? Well, who know what is they

:57:39. > :57:42.are thinking. But the Danes will be on, sorry, the Aussies will be

:57:43. > :57:47.obviously glad to be in the final. But looking at the time of 3.50,

:57:48. > :57:54.versus the best that they have done today, a 3.53. Unless something

:57:55. > :57:58.strange happens, you must be looking at Team GB for the gold medal.

:57:59. > :58:03.And here getting into the top speed. The gear that they are in is

:58:04. > :58:08.massive? Huge gears on the bikes. The sprinters have gone up to

:58:09. > :58:14.ridiculous size gears. They are using 65 tooth chain rings on the

:58:15. > :58:23.front if you enter cycling a standard road bike has a 53 chain

:58:24. > :58:30.and here it is 65. Here, the huge gears are accelerated

:58:31. > :58:36.up to pace. Ed is a man for the job. He is a sprint athlete. But the way

:58:37. > :58:43.that the event has gone, to ride 4,000 metres in 3.50, it is a sprint

:58:44. > :58:47.recover, sprint recover for four kilometres. Incredible the pace.

:58:48. > :58:52.It is not just the suit that is designed so that the wind flow is

:58:53. > :58:56.most effective, anything that restricts the wind, they have no

:58:57. > :59:00.rings on, no watch. I met Lewis Hamilton for the first

:59:01. > :59:05.time years ago, there was a picture of Bradley Wiggins with a ring on,

:59:06. > :59:11.an Olympic ring on and he said why does Bradley have the ring on there,

:59:12. > :59:12.surely it affects the air flow? He has taketown off after speaking with

:59:13. > :59:25.him. He has an hour to recover? It is now a half before the final.

:59:26. > :59:30.They do not look particularly stress. They have just written at a

:59:31. > :59:34.world record pace and look remarkably fresh, considering. They

:59:35. > :59:38.have the confidence and know they can do it. They do not have to do

:59:39. > :59:44.anything greater than that but they do not need to be tested harder than

:59:45. > :59:48.that in the final. It would be Bradley Wiggins' eighth Olympic

:59:49. > :59:52.medal but he wants a fifth gold medal. It is a gold medal or

:59:53. > :59:57.nothing. That will come up at 10:50pm your time but stay with us

:59:58. > :00:02.because there is more to enjoy. We will bring you up-to-date on hockey.

:00:03. > :00:12.Great Britain in action against Spain. This is a must win match and

:00:13. > :00:18.Spain were the first to go ahead. David Allegre with this goal putting

:00:19. > :00:25.1-0 up. But the British gave themselves hope with the equaliser

:00:26. > :00:29.coming from Ward. They have also had a goal disallowed. We will take you

:00:30. > :00:35.to live pictures to give you the latest score and this is live on BBC

:00:36. > :00:42.Four if you would like to watch it. It is still 1-1.

:00:43. > :00:51.In the tennis, this is the battle between Gael Monfils and Kei

:00:52. > :00:54.Nishikori. They are into a deciding set and the winner will meet Andy

:00:55. > :01:01.Murray in the semifinal. You can watch that online, one of many live

:01:02. > :01:07.feeds. Rafa Nadal won early on and is through to the semifinals. We

:01:08. > :01:11.celebrated a silver medal in the sport of dressage with defending

:01:12. > :01:19.champions Great Britain, but silver this around. Fiona Bigwood on the

:01:20. > :01:22.left receiving a medal and Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester, who

:01:23. > :01:29.trained the other three and also part owns Allegro and Spencer Wilton

:01:30. > :01:34.on the far right. Silver medals, a very good return. The gold medal

:01:35. > :01:47.four years ago was a stunning result and very much an upset of the world

:01:48. > :01:51.order. They spoke to Lee McKenzie. Spencer, silver medals were always

:01:52. > :01:57.hoped for, to go home with a medal from your first Olympics, what does

:01:58. > :02:01.it mean? Like a dream come true. I hoped we would get a medal but if

:02:02. > :02:04.you asked four years ago I would have been standing here with a

:02:05. > :02:10.silver medal, I would not have believed you, so it is incredible.

:02:11. > :02:15.Your first Olympics. To get here with your horse, you must be proud

:02:16. > :02:21.with the work you have put in to get your medal? I am here and have a

:02:22. > :02:29.medal and I have to say we are really good friend so to do it with

:02:30. > :02:32.a group of people, we socialise altogether, it has been fantastic.

:02:33. > :02:36.Carl Hester, you have been to a few Olympic Games, but how does this

:02:37. > :02:42.rate, the team spirit seems fantastic. It is a good team spirit.

:02:43. > :02:47.My first three Olympics were without medals. We never seemed to be able

:02:48. > :02:53.to get all good people on at the same time. It was one at a time and

:02:54. > :02:57.therefore we never actually managed a medal until London and to suddenly

:02:58. > :03:04.get a gold medal, it came out of the blue at the right time in the right

:03:05. > :03:08.country and was sensational. It did something for British dressage

:03:09. > :03:11.nothing else could have done will stop and to continue that and come

:03:12. > :03:16.here and take home the silver medal, it is not quite the same, but it is

:03:17. > :03:22.very fulfilling and I know this will keep the generation of young riders

:03:23. > :03:28.coming into our sport, the hours that you ride and the way UK Sport

:03:29. > :03:33.helps us, it manages our dreams because you cannot make a living out

:03:34. > :03:38.of riding horses. We have to be helped a lot to get this far and it

:03:39. > :03:43.is great to repay everybody. Shallot, not the colour of Olympic

:03:44. > :03:47.medals you used it, but I am sure you will cope with a silver medal? I

:03:48. > :03:53.am really proud. We knew it would be tough to get a gold medal, the

:03:54. > :03:57.Germans tough this year. We did our best. We are happy and proud we are

:03:58. > :04:03.coming home with a silver medal. Congratulations.

:04:04. > :04:08.Charlotte Dujardin will get her chance to get a gold medal when she

:04:09. > :04:12.defends her title in the freestyle on Monday around 2pm your time and I

:04:13. > :04:18.need to check this to see whether Carl Hester has qualified. We think

:04:19. > :04:22.Fiona Bigwood will be in it as well. She is riding with an eye patch

:04:23. > :04:29.because she had an awful fall in 2014 and had severe concussion that

:04:30. > :04:33.left her with nerve damage and double vision. She is riding with

:04:34. > :04:39.the eye patch so she can see properly. Back to the track will

:04:40. > :04:43.stop this is the team sprint medal races.

:04:44. > :04:51.We can join Simon and Chris. We are watching world champions Russia

:04:52. > :04:59.against Canada. Kate O'Brien, formerly bobsled who has transferred

:05:00. > :05:04.to cycling. That is a huge gap by the Canadians, doing everything they

:05:05. > :05:12.can. Half a second adrift at the halfway point. The Russian team, the

:05:13. > :05:22.world champions, will be smarting having been bettered by China who

:05:23. > :05:27.sent -- set a new record. Russia, I think, will certainly be through to

:05:28. > :05:33.the gold medal ride in the women's team sprint, which is not a

:05:34. > :05:37.surprise. They will be happy with that, not

:05:38. > :05:47.too far off the Olympic record. That was a very fast time.

:05:48. > :06:07.this is Voyanova. The big rivalry in this event is between Russia and

:06:08. > :06:15.China. China will be next on the track in heat number four. They are

:06:16. > :06:24.up against Spain -- Anastasiia Voinova. Germany are through to the

:06:25. > :06:29.bronze medal final and the defending champions can win a bronze medal at

:06:30. > :06:37.best. Russia guaranteed to go for a gold medal. It will be a great

:06:38. > :06:46.final. Two thousandths of a second between them and so it will come

:06:47. > :07:03.down to who can do -- deal well with the pressure. China against Spain.

:07:04. > :07:32.China set a new Olympic record in the first ride. Look at the power of

:07:33. > :07:45.Gong. A nice bit of timing hair. No overlap. Maybe two metres. Zhong

:07:46. > :07:51.down the back straight. Will they confirm their place? As they come up

:07:52. > :07:58.to the line, a world record. Superb riding from the Chinese pair. They

:07:59. > :08:02.felt they were dug out of it in London will stop they were

:08:03. > :08:05.controversially disqualified, having thought they had claimed the gold

:08:06. > :08:08.medal but they have the chance to make amends because they are

:08:09. > :08:12.certainly in the final this time around. They will face the Russians

:08:13. > :08:18.and go into it on the back of setting a new world record.

:08:19. > :08:20.The only team to go under 32 seconds and what a time to do it, the

:08:21. > :08:32.Olympic Games. Smarting from the disqualification

:08:33. > :08:35.at the World Championships. They have had a couple of

:08:36. > :08:43.disqualifications, that one in the World Championships as well as four

:08:44. > :08:48.years ago. But will it be china's day in Rio? Russia would have felt

:08:49. > :08:54.happier but only for a minute or two. Now they know they have to find

:08:55. > :08:55.something extra from somewhere, because China had just broken the

:08:56. > :09:04.world record. Confirmation coming from the sailing

:09:05. > :09:12.bats Nick Dempsey has won a silver medal. Something that Shirley said

:09:13. > :09:17.she hoped would happen. Three silver medals this evening UK time. We are

:09:18. > :09:23.looking ahead to a potential gold medal and shortly we will see Jason

:09:24. > :09:29.Kenny in the individual sprint, also Callum Skinner, and they are the

:09:30. > :09:40.drawn apart from each other and it is knockout stages until the medal

:09:41. > :09:44.race. Jason is up against Max Levy, one of my old rivals. He is not at

:09:45. > :09:49.his best and Jason should not be challenged massively.

:09:50. > :09:54.This is looking over your shoulder and suddenly you go. Tactics are as

:09:55. > :09:59.important as speed. If you have the speed and do not make mistakes, you

:10:00. > :10:10.should not lose but a moment relapse of concentration, -- moment --

:10:11. > :10:14.momentary lapse of concentration. Jason must be clinical as possible

:10:15. > :10:20.to make sure he does not put himself into a vulnerable position, the same

:10:21. > :10:28.with Calum. Have a clear plan. They draw a peg to decide which rider

:10:29. > :10:32.leads out. You do best-of-3? Not for this round. It is a straight race.

:10:33. > :10:39.If you lose, you go into a repechage. It is three laps and you

:10:40. > :10:43.look around and go for the last lap. You could decide to go for a long

:10:44. > :10:55.one. You did that. It happened against me. In the first round,

:10:56. > :10:59.second round. He went for a full gas start like a team sprint. His coach

:11:00. > :11:04.gave him a big shot Andy opened up a gap and I was not ready. Something I

:11:05. > :11:11.was always reminded about after that. The coach whispering in your

:11:12. > :11:18.ear, watch for the long one. That is Jason Kenny who is coming up in the

:11:19. > :11:26.first race against Max Levy. We can be join Simon Brotherton. And

:11:27. > :11:31.there is Max Levy. Ready to go. We are awaiting the appearance of the

:11:32. > :11:38.defending Olympic champion and world champion, Jason Kenny. He has come

:11:39. > :11:43.to the Olympic Games in fine form. Setting the benchmark group the

:11:44. > :11:49.fastest qualifying time, Jason Kenny, but it is not just about pure

:11:50. > :11:56.speed at the knockout stage. It does not do any harm, though, does it? !

:11:57. > :12:00.And to set personal bestss, that is exactly what we would want at the

:12:01. > :12:05.Olympic Games and he pulls it out every four years, Jason Kenny. He is

:12:06. > :12:10.the most un-assuming four-time Olympic gold medallist you could

:12:11. > :12:16.ever meet. The game of cat and mouse starts now with the German rider on

:12:17. > :12:22.the front for the first lap. You can go in with confidence. He knows the

:12:23. > :12:28.engine is good. He already has a gold medal in the pocket, what a

:12:29. > :12:32.wonderful way to go into such a stressful competition, knowing

:12:33. > :12:37.already you are an Olympic champion. Slowly winding up, the slow nature

:12:38. > :12:46.of these races adds to the tension. To give you an idea, if you are new

:12:47. > :12:50.to the sport of cycling, they have to take into account several

:12:51. > :12:54.factors. The reason they go slowly is they do not want to take up the

:12:55. > :12:59.lead position at this point, because they do not want to expend extra

:13:00. > :13:02.energy. They like to stay in the slipstream and also to keep the

:13:03. > :13:09.element of surprise which is why they learn to ride around. We do not

:13:10. > :13:12.notice it because they make it look effortless, but they never take

:13:13. > :13:18.their eyes off the competition, literally. You need arise in the

:13:19. > :13:22.back of your head to be a good match sprinter. Jason Kenny accelerating

:13:23. > :13:30.and his opponent is forced to do the same and he will entice him to come

:13:31. > :13:35.underneath but both experienced. Three laps. They take the bell. The

:13:36. > :13:38.German rider first to go and Jason Kenny has him in his sights and

:13:39. > :13:47.these to close the gap which he is doing now. Can he draw level? He

:13:48. > :13:51.can. Will he go past him? He times it perfectly. An excellent start to

:13:52. > :13:58.the competition for the defending champion. A lot of confidence from

:13:59. > :14:03.Jason Kenny. It is feast or famine with Jason. Every time we have seen

:14:04. > :14:09.him on the track, we have seen it. He did not get drawn into a tactical

:14:10. > :14:13.battle, he waited and then put his foot on the throttle when he was

:14:14. > :14:19.ready to go, confident he could come all the way round on the last

:14:20. > :14:24.corner. Confidence is the word for Jason Kenny in this championship so

:14:25. > :14:29.far. A good start for Jason Kenny and Callum Skinner will be on the

:14:30. > :14:35.track against Pat Constable. Had Jason Kenny been pipped at the line,

:14:36. > :14:42.would he have been out? The answer is no. The winner of each heat

:14:43. > :14:44.qualifies for the finals and the losers advance to the repechages.

:14:45. > :14:55.You do get a second opportunity. Mad He came outside of the

:14:56. > :15:00.sprinter's line into the home straight it may have been a subject

:15:01. > :15:18.of dispute had it not been won by Kenny. This should be a decent match

:15:19. > :15:22.between Callum Skinner and Pat Constable.

:15:23. > :15:27.Skinner with the confidence of the gold last night and the excellent

:15:28. > :15:30.ride, which, at the time, broke the Olympic record in qualifying.

:15:31. > :15:35.He was the man that carried the weight of the team. He knew he had

:15:36. > :15:40.to up his game. With the word's fastest starter in Philip Hindes.

:15:41. > :15:44.Jason Kenny utterly on form. All down to him to produce the ride of

:15:45. > :15:47.his life. The qualifying was just as exceptional. He has a real

:15:48. > :15:53.opportunity here to see how far he can go.

:15:54. > :15:57.To those who follow cycling he came to prominence when he secured a

:15:58. > :16:02.clean sweep of all four sprint titles in the national championships

:16:03. > :16:06.two years ago in the autumn of 2014. We have spoken about why you would

:16:07. > :16:11.want to be behind in the race. They draw to see the lead of. The

:16:12. > :16:15.advantage to being in front you lose energy. But the other rider has to

:16:16. > :16:20.go further to come around the outside. That is what they do. You

:16:21. > :16:25.can see his opponent trying to keep height so he can store that energy

:16:26. > :16:30.in the trk and accelerate faster. But Skinner is experienced with good

:16:31. > :16:34.coaching. A handy rider, Constable. Skinner

:16:35. > :16:39.keeping a close eye as they take the bell. Skinner to lead the sprint

:16:40. > :16:44.from the front. K constable trying to get height from the track. The

:16:45. > :16:49.full on sprint is down the back straight. The Australian getting

:16:50. > :16:57.closer and closer. But not managing to draw level. Close but not close

:16:58. > :17:00.enough. Almost a full bike length and Callum Skinner through at the

:17:01. > :17:06.first time of asking. Seasoned. He controlled it well. The

:17:07. > :17:12.reason that they sprint in the straight is that you do equal

:17:13. > :17:18.distance in the straight. You have can hold them on the hip.

:17:19. > :17:24.Callum Skinner is in the form of his life. Riding with the confidence it

:17:25. > :17:31.brings, you can see it in terms of his manner on the track.

:17:32. > :17:39.The next up is another one of the contenders for the gold medal. Matt

:17:40. > :17:45.Glaetzer. There is confirmation of the results.

:17:46. > :17:53.No need for a repechage. It is great to avoid as you don't have the extra

:17:54. > :17:59.race in your legs. Now, Fabian Puerta. He won a silver

:18:00. > :18:11.medal. That was a couple of years ago. The crowd went mad. But he has

:18:12. > :18:19.his hands full here with Glaetzer. Well it is not all about qualifying.

:18:20. > :18:25.But from here on in, it is tack at the call skill coming in to it.

:18:26. > :18:30.Glaetzer was the fastest qualifier at the World Championships.

:18:31. > :18:37.He got a silver medal. Beaten by Jason Kenny A good contest. Not far

:18:38. > :18:44.in the qualifying. Third quickest. And Puerta leads on the first lap.

:18:45. > :18:51.The Australian stalking his prey. He just does look like he is about

:18:52. > :18:56.to pounce! If you with wondering where we are getting the fantastic

:18:57. > :19:01.shots, there was a glimpse of the cable cam zipping around the field.

:19:02. > :19:07.Glaetzer is keeping the height. Drawing him to the top of the track.

:19:08. > :19:11.Puerta know what is is coming. It is a case of knowing when to make the

:19:12. > :19:18.effort. They come around to take the bell. He has drawn him down to the

:19:19. > :19:23.bottom of the track. But Glaetzer kept distance to accelerate. He has

:19:24. > :19:28.work to do. He has the speed. It will not be a problem. The race is

:19:29. > :19:31.on. And Matt Glaetzer is very much up for it and equal to the

:19:32. > :19:36.challenge. He timed that beautifully.

:19:37. > :19:40.Beating Puerta with considerable ease.

:19:41. > :19:45.10. .29. He did enough to secure the win. He knew in the back straight he

:19:46. > :19:51.had got it It was nicely timed. Another

:19:52. > :19:57.confident ride. Letting his opponent doing all of

:19:58. > :20:02.the running then lays off. Coming into the hole that is punched in the

:20:03. > :20:07.air. Whips around the outside so he does not have to go the extra

:20:08. > :20:13.distance if he has to overtake on the bend. Nicely done.

:20:14. > :20:19.As Glaetzer winds it down to head back for the infield. He is through.

:20:20. > :20:24.An impressive start to the competition from the two Brits and

:20:25. > :20:31.from the Australian, Matt Glaetzer. We are about to see Denis,

:20:32. > :20:36.Dmietriev. He was beaten about Gregory Bauge.

:20:37. > :20:47.He is in the next heat. This features Russia against Pole.

:20:48. > :20:54.It is Dmetriev against Sarnecki. Two guys that have been around the

:20:55. > :20:59.block. Both are in their 30s. They have a few races under their belts.

:21:00. > :21:05.Let's of a drag race, more of a brawl here.

:21:06. > :21:24.Dmitriev is twice silver-medallist in the World Championship.

:21:25. > :21:31.The speeds that they are travelling are about 70 kilometres an hour at

:21:32. > :21:35.peak. He had a conversation with Sir Chris Hoy before London about the

:21:36. > :21:39.possibility of using disc wheels and aerohelmets for the sprinter. I am

:21:40. > :21:45.not sure if it is allowed to have the disc in the front. But thinking

:21:46. > :21:50.of aerodynamics, ignoring the rider and thinking of top speed but as it

:21:51. > :21:56.is so different we bottled it in the end. We didn't need to do it. But

:21:57. > :22:08.with a front disc wheel, they would lose speed and agility of moving

:22:09. > :22:15.around. Dmitriev's view. Oh, He left the

:22:16. > :22:25.door open. The garden gate swinging in the breeze. The Polish rider has

:22:26. > :22:28.work to do. But the Russian has the pace, the speed and the title run

:22:29. > :22:33.through in the end. He was caught napping but had the

:22:34. > :22:38.engine to recover things. It shows how fast they have to react.

:22:39. > :22:48.That is experience there. Well, all four of the heats that we

:22:49. > :22:54.have seen so far in the 1616 finals have gone to form. Dmitriev with a

:22:55. > :22:58.little more to do than he would have liked.

:22:59. > :23:09.Good acceleration though. So once a rider, the race has started proper

:23:10. > :23:16.and one enters enters the sprinter line, they cannot overtake them or

:23:17. > :23:22.come out of the lane. One of the biggest names in track sprinting. On

:23:23. > :23:28.the right in the blue, Gregory Bauge. The world sprint champion. I

:23:29. > :23:31.have mentioned it this earlier, Gregory Bauge is still looking for a

:23:32. > :23:36.first Olympic title to go with the nine world crowns he has in his

:23:37. > :23:42.career. Stuck on silver and bronze so far.

:23:43. > :23:50.Bronze last niechlth Is it fair to say, some dischord

:23:51. > :23:55.within the French sprint camp? Yes, inside and out. Some personalities.

:23:56. > :24:04.But you need it for this type of event, of course. If is emotional as

:24:05. > :24:08.well as physical. Deeply frustrating.

:24:09. > :24:13.Gregory Bauge used to be the fastest starter in the world. It is long

:24:14. > :24:21.behind him now, I'm afraid. Gregory Bauge won the world sprint

:24:22. > :24:25.title last year in front of a noisy home crowd on the outskirts of

:24:26. > :24:31.Paris. He enjoys the team sprint events but

:24:32. > :24:33.more at home as a printer. Tactically clever and agile.

:24:34. > :24:50.He is up against a Czech rider. Pavel Kellerman. One would expect

:24:51. > :24:54.Gregory Bauge to go through but you never know.

:24:55. > :24:59.Full respect. But it is easy to get caught out. You think it will be an

:25:00. > :25:04.easy one. The adrenaline is not as high as you think you are covered.

:25:05. > :25:07.But Gregory Bauge is experienced. He will ride this one as if he were

:25:08. > :25:15.riding against the very best in the world.

:25:16. > :25:22.He will not relax until it is over. Gregory Bauge taking his time here.

:25:23. > :25:27.He is in no hurry. And keeping it in the well of the

:25:28. > :25:32.track you can only pass on one side. So it is easier to control.

:25:33. > :25:37.But as the rider goes up to get height, there is the potential to

:25:38. > :25:43.being celebrate, you are forced to go with them and Lee the inside lane

:25:44. > :25:48.open. He is going around the long way. He is trying to keep him

:25:49. > :25:52.tracked in position. It is about nerve and tactics.

:25:53. > :25:57.Pushing up to the outside of the track. Looking on the inside.

:25:58. > :26:02.Gregory Bauge making sure that the door was not open. Leading out from

:26:03. > :26:09.the front. And the Czech rider with lots to do. Gregory Bauge holding

:26:10. > :26:12.him off. But Kellerman, try as he might, can he find a way through?

:26:13. > :26:17.Not quite. He made a good fist of it.

:26:18. > :26:23.Textbook from Gregory Bauge. He controlled everything. Waiting until

:26:24. > :26:30.the back straight. Putting the final acceleration in. A professional ride

:26:31. > :26:37.from him, as we expected. So, the four time sprint champion is

:26:38. > :26:42.safely through to the finals. We have a fascinating spectator. Sir

:26:43. > :26:50.Steve Redgrave, you said this is the one ticket you wanted? Of all of the

:26:51. > :26:53.events of the Games I wanted to see the team pursuit and see hopefully

:26:54. > :26:57.another fifth gold medal. A fifth gold medal and eight in

:26:58. > :27:02.total. We have a lot to discuss. We are going to do that on BBC Two.

:27:03. > :27:08.Before we go I want to bring you up-to-date on the events so far.

:27:09. > :27:15.This is the head lines on day setbacken. Helen Glover and Heather

:27:16. > :27:23.Stanning continue their unbeaten run, gold in the women's pair to

:27:24. > :27:30.defend their Olympic title in style. And the men's four, was powerful.

:27:31. > :27:34.Alex Gregory, Mohammed Sbihi, George Nash and Constantine Louloudis

:27:35. > :27:41.continuing a winning run that goes back to Sydney in 2000.

:27:42. > :27:46.This medal, though, came from nowhere in trampolining! Bryony Page

:27:47. > :27:51.won an Olympic silver medal for Great Britain. A GB first at this

:27:52. > :27:55.all-world level. Completely unexpected, wonderful for her. And

:27:56. > :28:03.Great Britain's dressage riders. Well, they had to settle for silver.

:28:04. > :28:09.Beaten by the Germans. But Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro will have

:28:10. > :28:14.another chance, as will Fiona Bigwood, competing in the freestyle

:28:15. > :28:22.on Monday. And one more silver medal from wind surf in Nick Dempsey to

:28:23. > :28:26.add to the silver medal in London and bronze medal in Beijing.

:28:27. > :28:30.Now, this is live. Britain have to win the hockey match against Spain.

:28:31. > :28:33.It is 1-1. Join us on BBC Two. Chris and Steve

:28:34. > :28:36.are discussing Olympic greatness
