:00:00. > :00:11.that marathon effort yesterday, a little wide of the mark. Third

:00:12. > :00:15.Olympics, of course, for Murray. He wasn't happy with his first visit,

:00:16. > :00:21.that was to Beijing committee lost in the first round. He hadn't come

:00:22. > :00:25.prepared, came a little late, he was undercooked, and he knows that. He

:00:26. > :00:29.wasn't going to make the same mistake here. Of course, the gold

:00:30. > :00:36.medallist, terrific tournament in London, beating Djokovic in the

:00:37. > :00:41.semifinal. Federer in the final. And winning the mixed silver with Laura

:00:42. > :00:49.Robson. Heady times for British tennis that year. It was the pivotal

:00:50. > :00:55.tournament for Murray after that. After that came the Grand Slams, US

:00:56. > :00:57.Open. A few weeks later. Two Wimbledon titles. There are his

:00:58. > :01:13.notes. Six minutes short of the hour mark,

:01:14. > :01:46.Del Potro serving to stay in the opening set.

:01:47. > :01:52.Commendably at least Andy Murray was trying to take on that second serve

:01:53. > :02:02.return there, do something with it, be a bit more proactive. Loves to

:02:03. > :02:14.come forward on returns, see how far back he is. See where he hits it.

:02:15. > :02:25.CHEERING Cool as a cucumber. Really was here,

:02:26. > :02:45.the ball had a lot of hanged time, you can see how high it got.

:02:46. > :03:04.-- so solid. He's great to watch when he's playing well, isn't he,

:03:05. > :03:35.Delpo? Server and Sting combinations abound.

:03:36. > :03:53.Service game for Del Potro. It is virtually full now. Late arriving

:03:54. > :03:58.crowd. There are very few seats unfilled. 10,000 seater. In way over

:03:59. > :04:29.9000 in tonight. He's having problems with that

:04:30. > :04:33.double hander across, normally such a significant part of his armoury.

:04:34. > :04:37.Yes, you didn't have a lot of oncoming pace to play with, he did

:04:38. > :04:43.get a little bit low. Del Potro having won four of the last five

:04:44. > :04:47.games feeling secure. And he needs to secure that with his knees. Get

:04:48. > :05:34.underneath the ball, dig it out. What a shot! That's really

:05:35. > :05:38.encouraging for all British fans when you see Andy Murray foray to

:05:39. > :05:42.the net with such effect. So decisive, in contrast to what we've

:05:43. > :06:07.seen of late. Look at this. Wonderful. Great hand skills.

:06:08. > :06:16.There's the slider, which was giving Nishikori nightmares yesterday. His

:06:17. > :07:05.second ace. It is out. Put his arm up to

:07:06. > :07:11.challenge. Very quickly. We saw Pascal missed the gesture from Del

:07:12. > :07:16.Potro earlier on. It's a cauldron of noise. You have to shout very

:07:17. > :07:36.clearly if you want to challenge. If he's not picking up on the gestures.

:07:37. > :07:54.Missed, but it was his fastest serve of the evening. That was 210.

:07:55. > :08:02.I don't know if Murray was put off, a little sigh when outside committee

:08:03. > :08:08.looks like you had been distracted. That forehand looks vulnerable. He

:08:09. > :08:13.is normally so technically sound on that side. More significantly for

:08:14. > :08:17.me, I'm anxious about his first serve percentage down at 43%. He

:08:18. > :08:30.needs to be up and around or above 60%. Because what does that do? It

:08:31. > :08:34.enables Del Potro if he's down on too many second serves to get the

:08:35. > :08:35.second hand in the point. When he's bullying of the forehand side we

:08:36. > :09:24.know what effect it can have. So good. Again, surprising

:09:25. > :09:27.enterprise. From Del Potro. He looked very adept with that

:09:28. > :09:31.finishing volley. Seemed to get a good read on the Andy Murray

:09:32. > :09:39.backhand past there. Look how early he steps forward and that off

:09:40. > :10:10.gigantic stamp. -- closes that off with a gigantic stamp.

:10:11. > :10:20.Murray needed that. Del Potro staring down the court, he can't

:10:21. > :10:26.understand why he missed on that shot. It floated long, only just

:10:27. > :10:30.spilling over the baseline. Hands on hips in response, very dejected body

:10:31. > :11:14.language after missing that one. Super solid, Murray, in that point.

:11:15. > :11:27.Back in front, forcing Del Potro again to serve to stay in this set.

:11:28. > :11:32.Bearing in mind what happened yesterday with Del Potro, that

:11:33. > :11:36.marathon match with Rafa, would you say it's crucial for him to win the

:11:37. > :11:39.opening set? I think so because Andy Murray is the better player, ranked

:11:40. > :11:44.second in the world, has wiggle room. We know about the great

:11:45. > :11:49.fitness of Andy Murray. It is imperative for Del Potro to try and

:11:50. > :11:54.land the opening set anyway he can. He still won four of the last six

:11:55. > :11:59.games out here. Andy Murray winning the last, of course. Murray can be

:12:00. > :12:04.few on the evidence of what we seen of late, makes British fans quite

:12:05. > :12:08.nervous because there has been nothing as authoritative as we saw

:12:09. > :12:13.in the opening phase of the set when he led 4-1, firing to the net with

:12:14. > :12:19.such effect, crunching his backhand is very well, mixing in some very

:12:20. > :12:23.low slices, drop at will, demanding points. But not so of late. The

:12:24. > :12:32.velodrome in the background where we have had so much British success.

:12:33. > :12:33.Architecturally, uplifting Olympic Park. The atmosphere's been very

:12:34. > :12:51.good, too. Del Potro serving to stay in the

:12:52. > :13:22.set. For a second time. We've been going an hour and ten minutes.

:13:23. > :13:29.Yes, he did well not to get distracted by Murray, who was

:13:30. > :13:35.anticipating him going for another crushing forehand. Yes, just so

:13:36. > :13:37.solid behind his first serve. Commanding. That racket head gets

:13:38. > :14:14.clocked up in the air. Watch out! We've seen when it gets slightly

:14:15. > :14:18.tighter that's Del Potro can get the balance wrong of aggression of the

:14:19. > :14:22.forehand side and often overcook it. Murray preying on that. There is a

:14:23. > :14:34.good energy from the number two seed now.

:14:35. > :14:45.Yeah, exquisite pass from Murray. Suddenly two points in the set.

:14:46. > :14:50.Under extreme movement pressure here Andy Murray, did so well to get the

:14:51. > :14:55.backhand out. Barely had time to lift that once up and down over the

:14:56. > :14:56.net, tremendous amount of top-spin and brush. The racket head well

:14:57. > :15:12.underneath the ball. How quickly a match can change.

:15:13. > :16:01.Suddenly two set points for Murray. A gutsy serve. That was a very heavy

:16:02. > :17:10.and timely delivery. It is set to point to Murray, and

:17:11. > :17:15.there is the set! Well, for a new viewers it's won this way net,

:17:16. > :17:19.Murray for- one and Del Potro clawing its way back in Murray

:17:20. > :17:24.making a number of errors and for a while looking distinctly second-hand

:17:25. > :17:29.and second-best, but in the end he has clawed it back with a wonderful

:17:30. > :17:33.backhand down the line that does the job. It was a scorcher as he thread

:17:34. > :17:37.the needle there and several people in the crowd rose to their feet in

:17:38. > :17:41.appreciation of the Andy Murray brilliance but it has been sparse on

:17:42. > :17:45.the back end of this set but it was a sparkling start from him but he

:17:46. > :17:49.put the lid down it and he will be delighted with this hour and a

:17:50. > :17:58.quarters work and he snatched the opener 7-5. He was making some

:17:59. > :18:04.strange unforced errors and he looked in real difficulty, but again

:18:05. > :18:17.he has fought his way through. It wasn't exactly a crisis, but it was

:18:18. > :18:19.a serious problem. And he's taken the first set in one hour and a

:18:20. > :18:38.quarter, 7-5. And that's really been the story of

:18:39. > :18:43.a couple of matches that he's had this week. He was in all sorts of

:18:44. > :18:48.trouble against Fabio Fognini and lost eight games in a row to go 3-0

:18:49. > :18:55.down in the designing set and then he battled through and 16 three.

:18:56. > :19:00.Against Steve Johnson, on serve it was 4-3 but he battled back against

:19:01. > :19:04.the American to win that a tie-break. There are the stats, and

:19:05. > :19:10.the key thing is the first serve percentage. Yes, that is woefully

:19:11. > :19:13.low at 39% and he will have to rectify that immediately because Del

:19:14. > :19:17.Potro will be praying on the point once he is inside the baseline and

:19:18. > :19:27.threatening that second serve return but Andy Murray managing to forge

:19:28. > :19:31.three breaks of serve. So, Del Potro in a tumultuous match yesterday,

:19:32. > :19:36.emotionally and physically. That is the last thing he wanted to happen,

:19:37. > :19:40.along first set, and he has lost it, it couldn't be a worse scenario for

:19:41. > :19:44.him. Absolutely. It will be interesting to see if Murray can

:19:45. > :20:17.keep his foot to the floor here. Well, the court is tailor-made to

:20:18. > :20:22.Murray, snow and high bouncing hard court which most players struggled

:20:23. > :20:26.to hit through, the Argentine not so, but it gives Murray time and

:20:27. > :20:29.sometimes he is lulled into these passive passages of play that he can

:20:30. > :20:39.ill afford. He needs to stay on the front foot. A couple of times this

:20:40. > :20:43.wiki he has won a very easy first set, against Fabio Fognini he won

:20:44. > :20:47.the first set and had a lull at the start of the second and against

:20:48. > :20:50.Steve Johnson it was the same and he won the first set 6-0 and then the

:20:51. > :20:57.intensity went for about ten minutes but he got it back in time. And

:20:58. > :21:03.against Kei Nishikori as well, it was a 6-1 opening set. Did he laps

:21:04. > :21:07.then or did he managed to keep the pressure on Kei Nishikori? I saw the

:21:08. > :21:12.second set was 6-4 but I didn't see the match. Kei Nishikori played

:21:13. > :21:19.wealthy early part of the set but rather faded at the end. -- he

:21:20. > :21:25.played well in the early part of the set.

:21:26. > :21:32.It was always going to be tricky to lob a man of his stature. He paid

:21:33. > :21:37.the price there, didn't quite get the loft. Every cloud has a silver

:21:38. > :21:41.lining because it leads to ask a different question. Del Potro is

:21:42. > :21:56.seen so many passes go by and it has kept his court position honest.

:21:57. > :22:01.That was a poor choice of shot and the execution wasn't any better.

:22:02. > :22:54.Here is a break point for Del Potro. Yes. Del Potro, convinced he was

:22:55. > :22:58.going in on that forehand. Yes, very strict shape around the ball from

:22:59. > :23:02.Andy Murray power, leaving nothing to chance. Not overcooking it. It

:23:03. > :24:08.was nicely weighted. Just enough power from the massive

:24:09. > :24:13.forehands to make the difference. It is a huge rally in tempo and most

:24:14. > :24:18.men keeping an impeccable length throughout but the Argentine having

:24:19. > :24:57.the last laugh. A second bite of the cherry for Del Potro.

:24:58. > :25:07.How brave of that -- how brave was that of Murray? On a point like

:25:08. > :25:14.that, going to the strength of Del Potro. You can see how much it hurt.

:25:15. > :25:18.That was a lung busting point, an audacious point from Andy Murray.

:25:19. > :25:22.What a sportsman Del Potro is. Did you see we got up there he smacked

:25:23. > :25:33.his racket with his hand as though to say well played. Yes, that is

:25:34. > :25:35.commendable. One of the key points may be in the

:25:36. > :25:58.match, certainly one of the best. Yes, well, the expression makes you

:25:59. > :26:01.believe that having challenged he's not sure the challenge. It is a mile

:26:02. > :26:09.away from us so difficult to make a judgment. It is out and he is

:26:10. > :26:19.relieved. He wasn't confident at all. Absolutely, he is delighted

:26:20. > :26:54.with that. It renders another break point opportunity.

:26:55. > :27:01.Well, he came in and Del Potro was glad he did. A huge pass, and Del

:27:02. > :27:17.Potro is back in this. After the disappointment of losing a

:27:18. > :27:22.massive opening set and that is just what Del Potro has needed. It will

:27:23. > :27:25.inject enthusiasm into the crowd as you can hear, but the player will be

:27:26. > :27:28.delighted with this, it was a thunderous SmackDown malign and he

:27:29. > :27:38.really got a feet behind the ball well. A gorgeous strike with power

:27:39. > :27:54.and perfect timing. -- a thunderous smack down the line.

:27:55. > :28:00.They have become accustomed to getting quite expectant when ever

:28:01. > :28:04.Del Potro comes on the court, particularly at the Olympic Tennis

:28:05. > :28:08.Centre. He has delivered all week with the biggest scalp first and

:28:09. > :28:12.then the Dell. He has a long way to go if he is to turn this match

:28:13. > :28:20.around. He beat Novak Djokovic in the first round. At that stage it

:28:21. > :28:29.was a huge surprise, but the way he has played, and the way Djokovic has

:28:30. > :29:16.played in the last month, maybe it is not such a big surprise.

:29:17. > :29:24.Well, the forehand once again is looking intimidating. He's bringing

:29:25. > :29:29.it into play time and time again. Yeah, he's dropping the sledgehammer

:29:30. > :29:56.very often now. It's a thunderous strike.

:29:57. > :30:10.Oh yes. Killer sliced from Murray. Somehow it looks like the short game

:30:11. > :30:14.in golf, just chipping that one delicately down, look out it just

:30:15. > :30:17.meandered from left to right on our screen. High skill level from Andy

:30:18. > :30:51.Murray. As ever, being pinned on the ropes,

:30:52. > :30:57.and being in trouble, has brought the best out of my way. Some of his

:30:58. > :31:23.best tennis right here. -- brought the best out of Murray.

:31:24. > :31:34.That time going for the forehand did bring its reward. Here is Murray 's

:31:35. > :31:39.break back point. Suddenly looked just a little bit more positive.

:31:40. > :32:05.More imagination in the way that he's playing now.

:32:06. > :32:20.For somebody who probably doesn't need to come to the net that much,

:32:21. > :33:05.that is an effective volley. Divine touch from Murray. Gorgeous

:33:06. > :33:06.skills from Andy Murray, so disguised, ripping up the back of

:33:07. > :33:25.the ball. STUDIO: Coverage of this tremendous

:33:26. > :33:30.match between Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro continues on BBC

:33:31. > :33:33.One. You'll see the conclusion of this gold medal contest. Lots of

:33:34. > :33:38.good stuff coming up on BBC Four. Here are the headlines. A lot has

:33:39. > :33:47.been a fabulous day for Great Britain. Jason Kenny won his second

:33:48. > :33:51.gold medal of the games and fifth Olympic gold of his career as he

:33:52. > :33:54.successfully defended his title in the men's sprint. There was a silver

:33:55. > :34:02.for Britain courtesy of Callum Skinner. History today for Max

:34:03. > :34:07.Whitlock as he became written's first Olympic gold medallist in

:34:08. > :34:10.gymnastics winning the men's floor competition. Some amazing scenes

:34:11. > :34:18.with Brazil taking silver and bronze. Whitlock won a second gold

:34:19. > :34:21.in the space of two hours as he also won the pommel horse competition.

:34:22. > :34:31.There was a silver for Britain as well thanks to Louis Smith. Justin

:34:32. > :34:37.Rose won the gold medal in golf after a Sunday tussle with Henrik

:34:38. > :34:44.Stenson. He birdied 18 and won by two shots before celebrating in

:34:45. > :34:49.style. Giles Scott is guaranteed Olympic gold in the men's class

:34:50. > :34:54.after establishing an unassailable lead before Tuesday's medal race. It

:34:55. > :35:01.would be Britain's fifth successive Olympic title in the event. Two time

:35:02. > :35:05.world champion Nick Dempsey, who turns 36 on Saturday, became the

:35:06. > :35:07.first male windsurfer to win three Olympic medals after his silver in

:35:08. > :35:17.the final medal race earlier today. Everyone was talking about Super

:35:18. > :35:20.Saturday, it's fair to say it has been stellar Sunday today in Rio,

:35:21. > :35:26.wonderful action, and a great success for Team GB. Let's remind

:35:27. > :35:32.you what's coming up in the next two hours on BBC Four. We'll be heading

:35:33. > :35:41.off to Riocentro Pavilion six for boxing next. The women's

:35:42. > :35:46.middleweight fight between Savannah Marshall and laurel Nash of Sweden.

:35:47. > :35:53.The top two teams in the world taking part in the men's

:35:54. > :35:59.quarterfinal hockey. Back to the boxing, men welterweight clash.

:36:00. > :36:09.Padma, against Toledo of Cuba. -- Pat McCormick. Josh Groban

:36:10. > :36:18.those fights are coming up later live on BBC Four. We are heading to

:36:19. > :36:22.Riocentro Pavilion six for boxing. It's the women's match in action

:36:23. > :36:26.between Savannah Marshall, a young lady with high expectations going

:36:27. > :36:32.into London, just 19 years old, but she got knocked out in her first

:36:33. > :36:37.round, she's had four years of banks to, determined to make up for what

:36:38. > :36:41.happened in London. Savannah muscle against Nash of Sweden. You like

:36:42. > :36:47.Savannah Marshall is also a world champion. Not an easy start for the

:36:48. > :36:51.young lady nicknamed the Silent assassin. Richard Woodall and Ronald

:36:52. > :37:06.McIntosh and eight. Nash, the two time Olympian

:37:07. > :37:18.representing Sweden. For her first appearance since Rio 2016.

:37:19. > :37:26.In the blue corner, representing Great Britain... Savannah Marshall.

:37:27. > :37:32.Savannah Marshall of Great Britain is also a two time Olympian, she has

:37:33. > :37:39.plenty of support in evidence here at Riocentro Pavilion six. Her

:37:40. > :37:46.opening bout of the middleweight tournament. Preparing to fit the

:37:47. > :37:52.head guard and for the final words of instruction. Ahead of this, her

:37:53. > :38:00.first outing of Rio 2016. Both girls have had a long wait here. Who can

:38:01. > :38:03.get the tactics right in the first round? It's so important to win the

:38:04. > :38:09.first round and both will know that. Great to see Savannah Marshall in

:38:10. > :38:32.action now. She's capable of winning this. Capable of going all the way.

:38:33. > :38:37.Introducing the box in the blue corner representing Great Britain...

:38:38. > :39:23.-- the boxer. Savannah Marshall! So, we're underway in the 75

:39:24. > :39:27.kilograms middleweight division. This contest in the first

:39:28. > :39:31.preliminary round of the tournament between boxers from Sweden and Great

:39:32. > :39:40.Britain. The boxer in red has made a pretty brisk start is Anna Laurell

:39:41. > :39:45.Nash. 36 years of age, incredibly experienced. Her opponent, in blue,

:39:46. > :39:49.is Savannah Marshall of Great Britain. Anna Laurell Nash is ranked

:39:50. > :39:57.15 in the world, Savannah Marshall is ranked number 11. In their two

:39:58. > :40:05.meetings to date, it is Savannah Marshall leading 2-0. An abrasive

:40:06. > :40:09.contest so far. It's been a bright start from Marshall, she raced to

:40:10. > :40:13.the centre of the ring, she knows it's important for what she does.

:40:14. > :40:17.Broken up her jab now. These girls know each other, there has been a

:40:18. > :40:21.lot of sparring in training camps together. From what I've seen,

:40:22. > :40:25.Marshall seemed to get the better of her opponent, but this is different,

:40:26. > :40:31.this is Olympic Games, this is where it matters. Psychologically,

:40:32. > :40:39.Marshall is going into this very confident indeed. Wiped clean after

:40:40. > :40:43.that return to the canvas. Marshall, good left jab, the straight shot

:40:44. > :40:54.came straight back in reply from Laurell Nash. Working the body

:40:55. > :40:58.effectively, Marshall, brings another cut through the middle that

:40:59. > :41:01.wasn't too far away. Good combination by Laurell Nash, who is

:41:02. > :41:06.slightly taller in this contest between two talk ranging

:41:07. > :41:11.middleweights. She works slightly better long-range, Laurell Nash, but

:41:12. > :41:15.Savannah Marshall will work downstairs. When she's in close

:41:16. > :41:23.quarters she has to let the punches go on the inside, Marshall. Very

:41:24. > :41:35.good round of boxing taking place. In the Olympic boxing arena.

:41:36. > :41:43.Laurell Nash very experienced indeed. Savannah throwing the

:41:44. > :41:49.reverse 1-2. Laurell Nash had a bit of success. Mark Webber is a nice

:41:50. > :41:53.jab from the girl in red. And again. Towards the end of the round,

:41:54. > :41:59.Marshall started working better to the body. Let's look at the scores.

:42:00. > :42:03.10-9 across the board for Laurell Nash, there's not a lot in the

:42:04. > :42:05.round, it's up to Marshall now to respond in the second round, in a

:42:06. > :42:27.real positive way. So, to the second round we go, then.

:42:28. > :42:34.Both of these boxers two time Olympians. Came away with

:42:35. > :42:38.quarterfinal places at London 2012. Savannah Marshall entered that

:42:39. > :42:42.tournament, a home Olympics, as the reigning World Championship gold

:42:43. > :42:47.medallist. Turned into an effective 1-2 by Laurell Nash there. Here she

:42:48. > :42:51.enters as reigning World Championship bronze medallist after

:42:52. > :42:55.a terrific podium finish at the most recent edition Intel Distin earlier

:42:56. > :43:02.this year. Laurell Nash has waited too long here, Sav is doing a lot

:43:03. > :43:07.better in this opening of the second round. She's beaten her opponent to

:43:08. > :43:14.the punch. That was better from Marshall. If you watch Laurell Nash

:43:15. > :43:18.she's the decided to hold on, she's not designed for the inside work.

:43:19. > :43:27.Marshall has to take advantage of that. Marshall 25 years of age. En

:43:28. > :43:32.route to that World Championship win of 2012 when the tournament was in

:43:33. > :43:40.China, she beat a certain Clarissa Shields. She remains the only woman

:43:41. > :43:44.to have defeated the reigning Olympic champion, nicknamed T Rex.

:43:45. > :43:48.She's acquitting herself very well here, exchange of shots of the

:43:49. > :43:53.single variety. That final coming together. Beaten to the punch by

:43:54. > :43:58.Laurell Nash but back comes Savannah Marshall. Cracking right hand. Which

:43:59. > :44:03.causes Laurell Nash to lose her stance. This is a better response

:44:04. > :44:12.from Marshall, I said we needed it in the second round. She's boxing

:44:13. > :44:17.with more authority. Both boxers letting their hands go with

:44:18. > :44:21.regularity, good work to the body from Marshall. Terrific second round

:44:22. > :44:26.of boxing, let's see if we can listen in to Lee Pullin issuing

:44:27. > :44:32.instructions. That's a good round, that's what we want, hard work, the

:44:33. > :44:38.workrate we need, that's good. Listen, you're 1-2s were great.

:44:39. > :44:43.You're inside stuff was good, OK. Lee Pullin very happy indeed, that's

:44:44. > :44:48.the workrate we want. She upped it, didn't you, most certainly. I said

:44:49. > :44:53.we wanted a positive response and we got it. She beat her opponent to the

:44:54. > :45:01.punch time and time again, let's have a look at the scores. I hope

:45:02. > :45:06.they reflect that. And they have. Good judging. Savannah Marshall

:45:07. > :45:17.clearly won the round with a higher workrate. Going into the second half

:45:18. > :45:25.of the contest we are all square. ANNOUNCER: round three. Two rounds

:45:26. > :45:28.completed, two to go in this 75 kilograms middleweight preliminary

:45:29. > :45:32.round bout. Savannah Marshall has come out to begin this third round

:45:33. > :45:36.in determined mood immediately on the front foot and taking the

:45:37. > :45:46.contest to Laurell Nash is trying to keep her at bay with straight shots.

:45:47. > :45:53.The shots from Laurell Nash are not the straight shots they were in the

:45:54. > :45:57.first round. Now we know the tactics, Marshall has to get inside

:45:58. > :46:00.the longer reach of her opponents and quicken their feet up and try

:46:01. > :46:08.and beat her to the punch and not work away on the inside. Don't stay

:46:09. > :46:16.inside and stand on hold, work away. Laurell Nash once marshalled to work

:46:17. > :46:21.away. Marshall is such a pioneer and a trailblazer in women's boxing. She

:46:22. > :46:27.won the first of two world titles in the first edition of the event in

:46:28. > :46:31.Pennsylvania in 2001. So much experience acquired during the

:46:32. > :46:40.intervening years. She actually thought about giving up boxing, but

:46:41. > :46:47.when the age limit changed in April 2013, from 24 to 40, she continued

:46:48. > :46:51.and worked on the road to rear and continued her qualification at the

:46:52. > :46:55.European qualification event in Turkey. She has got her hands full

:46:56. > :47:01.here because Marshall is continuing to be the aggressor in this contest.

:47:02. > :47:06.She has really want to it now, Marshall, she is boxing with a lot

:47:07. > :47:10.of urgency. Laurell Nash is coming forward and this is the only part of

:47:11. > :47:13.the contest she has put a bit of sustained pressure on. Marshall for

:47:14. > :47:15.me is boxing well and she has to keep it going and keep pushing our

:47:16. > :47:26.opponent back. Apart from that little pressure from

:47:27. > :47:30.Laurell Nash in that round, again it was a decent man for Savannah

:47:31. > :47:38.Marshall. On that front foot, this girls experienced. She knows this is

:47:39. > :47:42.probably her last games also. Towards the end of that round she

:47:43. > :47:46.started to come forward, as we can see here. But up until that point

:47:47. > :47:50.Marshall again was having some good success, fighting with urgency on

:47:51. > :48:01.that front foot and catching her opponent with right-hand side that.

:48:02. > :48:05.It is a second consecutive round scored unanimously in favour of

:48:06. > :48:08.Savannah Marshall. She leads by one for all three judges going into the

:48:09. > :48:27.fourth and final round. We begin the fourth and final round

:48:28. > :48:30.of the 75 kilograms bout and Savannah Marshall is in an

:48:31. > :48:35.aggressive moved again and immediately into the front foot and

:48:36. > :48:39.scoring with a 1-2. We have heard from the blue corner that Lee Pullen

:48:40. > :48:42.was delighted with the workrate of Savannah Marshall that is the work

:48:43. > :48:49.rate they want. A nice little candidate at the knees to avoid the

:48:50. > :48:52.counter attempted by Laurell Nash. A jolting left jab drives Laurell Nash

:48:53. > :48:56.backwards and the momentum that was built up by taking rounds two and

:48:57. > :49:01.three unanimously for Savannah Marshall is continuing here in the

:49:02. > :49:05.fourth round. If you are looking at these boxers, I see one that is

:49:06. > :49:09.pushing the fight and urging it and wanting to win it, the girl in blue

:49:10. > :49:13.and Laurell Nash is content to stay on the outside and try and keep her

:49:14. > :49:18.opponent at bay. Savannah Marshall for me want this more than her

:49:19. > :49:22.opponent at this stage, the way she is boxing she had a bad first round

:49:23. > :49:27.and has responded really positive in the second and third round and again

:49:28. > :49:32.she has carried on now. A cracking right hand once again. That put

:49:33. > :49:38.Laurell Nash on slightly unsteady legs and she gets into punching

:49:39. > :49:42.distance to allow her head to clear. A terrific fourth and final round to

:49:43. > :49:46.that point is being produced by Savannah Marshall. A good right

:49:47. > :49:50.response from the experience Laurell Nash. She picked up the second world

:49:51. > :49:55.title in 2005 and she is bringing all that experience to bear it and

:49:56. > :50:00.trying to hold on but she is being beaten to the punch repeatedly.

:50:01. > :50:04.Savannah Marshall lands another salvo and her combination is

:50:05. > :50:15.effective once more. Good variety as she goes downstairs to the body with

:50:16. > :50:17.good effect. It is all about digging in and digging deep and that is what

:50:18. > :50:20.Marshall is doing here, digging deep and that left hook is a better

:50:21. > :50:25.finished at around four Marshall. What a terrific contest we've just

:50:26. > :50:32.witnessed and the box in blue is surely through to the next stage.

:50:33. > :50:35.Unlike in 2012 where Savannah Marshall was not pleased with the

:50:36. > :50:40.manner in which she performed but here she came out in and determined

:50:41. > :50:44.mode. She showed her character and immense ability by digging deep,

:50:45. > :50:49.fighting back and producing some terrific quality as the contest

:50:50. > :50:53.progressed. Marshall gritted her teeth. She admits to herself that

:50:54. > :50:57.the occasion got to at London 2012 but with another four years of

:50:58. > :51:00.experience she wasn't going to be denied here tonight and that is a

:51:01. > :51:06.terrific right hand and she ended the round, look at how focused

:51:07. > :51:09.cheers and concentrating on winning this. Laurell Nash played her part

:51:10. > :51:15.most certainly with a good first round but Marshall came back and

:51:16. > :51:19.Marshall Pozner hand is going to be raised here, Ronald. I'm quite

:51:20. > :51:25.convinced of that. That is the Brits in the crowd there. That is the

:51:26. > :51:33.support staff from Sheffield. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner by a

:51:34. > :51:44.unanimous decision... In the blue corner...

:51:45. > :51:49.Savannah Marshall! What a moment for Savannah Marshall, the reigning

:51:50. > :51:53.World Championship bronze medallist has scored her first Olympic victory

:51:54. > :51:57.after that disappointing display in London four years ago. That ghost

:51:58. > :52:02.has been exorcised and she is through to the final eight of the

:52:03. > :52:08.middleweight tournament, and one win away from a place on the medal

:52:09. > :52:13.podium. A terrific performance to take a unanimous points decision

:52:14. > :52:18.victory and improving her rivalry 3- nothing over the experienced three

:52:19. > :52:24.times world champion, and Laurell Nash.

:52:25. > :52:27.I saw you may say that your point at the start of about there and you

:52:28. > :52:31.were eager to get going, how did you feel it went? I didn't feel like I

:52:32. > :52:35.box very well but I'm happy to get the first match the way and blow the

:52:36. > :52:40.cobwebs off. It is an opponent that you have sparred quite a few times,

:52:41. > :52:44.how does that help the tactics? I think Anna is a brilliant opponent

:52:45. > :52:47.and she is world class and we have boxed each other about five times

:52:48. > :52:52.now and every time should we box she gets better. Had you about the

:52:53. > :52:59.tournament and your chances of a medal? It is all I want, all I want

:53:00. > :53:03.is an Olympic medal. It's going to be really hard but I have one more

:53:04. > :53:07.bout for a medal so I am going to give it my all. Do you feel you have

:53:08. > :53:13.a bit of a point to prove after the disappointment of London? Do you

:53:14. > :53:16.know, I've never once since London regretted what happened in London,

:53:17. > :53:21.until I got here four years later and got my drawer and I thought,

:53:22. > :53:25.four years ago I had an easier draw and it was in the palm of my hand

:53:26. > :53:29.is, but now it is the first time I've ever regretted it. What you

:53:30. > :53:36.think your chances are? How far can you go in this tournament? Like I

:53:37. > :53:44.said, all I want is a medal. Goals, but I think I would be happy... I

:53:45. > :53:48.want is a medal. Best of luck. More boxing later on but on BBC One

:53:49. > :53:55.at the moment Andy Murray is in a bit of a battle in the second set

:53:56. > :54:03.with the giant air, one Martin del Potro. Del Potro is 4-2 up in the

:54:04. > :54:09.second. -- the giant Argentinian Juan Martin Potro. We are now

:54:10. > :54:12.heading up to the Deodoro for the finals of the men's hockey

:54:13. > :54:18.competition. We can show you what has happened in the first couple of

:54:19. > :54:22.matches, Argentina deflated Spain and Belgium defeated Great Britain

:54:23. > :54:26.in the very first match of the tournament and they defeated India

:54:27. > :54:30.so Belgium and Argentina have put their spots in the semifinals and

:54:31. > :54:34.the third quarterfinal is the next one we will concentrate on and it is

:54:35. > :54:38.the top two ranked teams in the world, the Netherlands who are

:54:39. > :54:43.number two and the number one team, Australia. They won bronze and

:54:44. > :54:55.silver in London 2012. We will show you what has happened in the match

:54:56. > :55:08.so far. Jeroen Hertzberger hassling the Australian number 19, Tim

:55:09. > :55:13.Deavin. What a steal. Billy Bakker has scored. Billy Bakker gets the

:55:14. > :55:21.first goal within a minute of the start. He steps up high and hard and

:55:22. > :55:25.takes it off the end of the stick and Billy Bakker peeled off to the

:55:26. > :55:31.left and one strike into the bottom corner. There was nothing the

:55:32. > :55:35.Australian gold can do. Back foot, blade edge, bottom corner. Jeroen

:55:36. > :55:52.Hertzberger to assist if it was needed.

:55:53. > :55:58.That is beautiful. Laid off to Valentin Verga. Valentin Verga is

:55:59. > :56:04.leading the charge there. Billy Bakker might fancy another one

:56:05. > :56:15.before half-time. And it is through. 2-1. Scored by Robert van der Horst

:56:16. > :56:19.but Billy Bakker did all the work. The pass came into him and appealed

:56:20. > :56:23.onto his back and to start with and he sucked the Australians in and

:56:24. > :56:31.battered his way down the middle. In the end he wasn't clean but Robert

:56:32. > :56:39.van der Horst slid it into a relatively un-guarded net.

:56:40. > :56:48.Two minutes to half-time. That is nicely done from Robbert Kemperman

:56:49. > :56:52.into the circle. Oh, what a goal! What a start to the second half.

:56:53. > :56:59.That is Valentin Verga who gets the final touch. The goalkeeper,

:57:00. > :57:09.Charter, has been absolutely flattened in the exchanges. The ball

:57:10. > :57:13.was drilled across from Jeroen Hertzberger, he didn't give it a

:57:14. > :57:18.space at all. It was blasted across and Valentin Verga got on top of it

:57:19. > :57:23.and blasted it in. There is no doubt about the goal but unfortunately the

:57:24. > :57:29.following three -- follow through took charter in towards the goal and

:57:30. > :57:35.the post and took his helmet off. Charter had an arm up and he was

:57:36. > :57:39.trying to catch him, give the goalkeeper credit, he was trying to

:57:40. > :57:45.stop Valentin Verga piling into the post at the back of the goal.

:57:46. > :57:55.Tremendous stuff from the Dutch and we will join it live in the second

:57:56. > :58:01.half. Can Australia find a way back? 3-0 to the Netherlands. Five minutes

:58:02. > :58:06.to the end of the third period. Matt Swan trying to bustle his way

:58:07. > :58:13.forward and Australia are trying everything. The Dutch defence are

:58:14. > :58:17.resolute and positive every time. The Aussies have gone to video

:58:18. > :58:27.referral, feeling there was an issue. Simon Orchard has called it.

:58:28. > :58:33.The first video referral of the game. OK, the Australians are asking

:58:34. > :58:41.for some danger in the circle, to me there is no danger at all. Simon

:58:42. > :58:44.Orchard hate it and Valentin Verga and there is no player there. I

:58:45. > :58:49.don't think there is any issue there at all. The Australians could well

:58:50. > :58:54.be clutching at straws now. 90 minutes of the match left. Slightly

:58:55. > :59:00.minute -- slightly more than 19 minutes of the match left and there

:59:01. > :59:05.are 3-0 down and their Olympic ambitions are hanging by a thread. I

:59:06. > :59:11.can see no reason to chase the decision. Australia lose their

:59:12. > :59:15.referral. As we expected, no danger and the Australian referral is

:59:16. > :59:26.rejected. They don't get another chance to go upstairs. The

:59:27. > :59:37.Netherlands restart. 3-0 in front and goals from Robbert Kemperman two

:59:38. > :59:42.with the first minute -- three minutes and Robert van der Horst and

:59:43. > :59:45.Valentin Verga. The Dutch have used everything so well. They've used a

:59:46. > :59:57.long ball, flattened elevated, just drop it onto sticks.

:59:58. > :00:11.Swan. Bouncing ball. Impossible for any of his team-mates to get hold

:00:12. > :00:15.of. The Dutch ball-handling has been exceptional, to deny the Australians

:00:16. > :00:20.any of the normal momentum they would look to create. They haven't

:00:21. > :00:25.been able to hustle and swarm for any of the pressured midfield areas,

:00:26. > :00:29.the Dutch have made very clever choices. Off Dwyer's foot. Break off

:00:30. > :00:39.from the back for the men in orange and white. Pace on the right for the

:00:40. > :00:49.Australian counterattack. Divine has picked it off Jake Wetton.

:00:50. > :00:59.It will be an Australian free hit. They need every bit of luck now.

:01:00. > :01:06.Driven downfield from one end to the other. Hertzberger knew if he could

:01:07. > :01:10.just get a roll around there, get his white foot across, rotate the

:01:11. > :01:20.hips, he could drill it down to space, no point trying to be clever

:01:21. > :01:31.at this stage of the game. Nice turn towards the circle. No Australian

:01:32. > :01:36.sticks able to follow it up. The Australian supporters occupying one

:01:37. > :01:41.particular stand right opposite the commentary position are subdued and

:01:42. > :01:50.silent, while the Dutch have started to party. The world number two, the

:01:51. > :01:54.Dutch, playing the world number one, the Australians. In a number of

:01:55. > :01:58.areas it hasn't been a contest, ball-handling has been sublime from

:01:59. > :02:07.the Netherlands. Oh my word. We gave it the commentators curse. Got away

:02:08. > :02:10.with it. Dwyer. Dwyer has done well. To put Australia in a decent

:02:11. > :02:23.attacking position, but it doesn't last long. Its beauty. Deavin, his

:02:24. > :02:38.toes go... He knows he's got to get there. Hertzberger tangling with

:02:39. > :02:45.Kavanagh. Everything going for Holland now. Australia launch one

:02:46. > :02:50.more attack. But it will be a Dutch free hit in the centre of the field

:02:51. > :02:57.right on the halfway line. Just over a minute to the end of the third

:02:58. > :03:04.period. Netherlands 3-0 Australia. The way things stand, the Dutch will

:03:05. > :03:09.be facing their neighbours, Belgium, in the semifinals.

:03:10. > :03:18.Hoffman led back to that backhand. It was drilled downfield by van der

:03:19. > :03:20.Horst. He tried to get his body round, deflected on an angle, back

:03:21. > :03:37.to the middle of the circle. Deavin is in the way of that crash

:03:38. > :03:38.ball pretty much every single time. His positional awareness this game

:03:39. > :03:51.has been exceptional. That will be the final play of the

:03:52. > :03:55.third period. The Dutch have started the half well. The scoreline favours

:03:56. > :04:09.them. 3-0 with 15 minutes to go. STUDIO: The Australians have quite a

:04:10. > :04:13.bit to do, 3-0 down with one period of 15 minutes left to go. We'll be

:04:14. > :04:21.back shortly but time to bring you up-to-date with today's headlines.

:04:22. > :04:24.Jason Kenny won his second gold of the games and fifth Olympic gold of

:04:25. > :04:28.his career as he successfully defended his title in the men's

:04:29. > :04:35.sprint. There was a silver for Britain courtesy of Callum Skinner.

:04:36. > :04:39.History today for Max Whitlock as he became Britain's first Olympic gold

:04:40. > :04:43.medallist in gymnastics, winning the men's floor competition. Great

:04:44. > :04:51.scenes with Brazil taking silver and bronze. Whitlock won second gold in

:04:52. > :04:54.the space of two hours as he also took the pommel horse competition.

:04:55. > :05:01.Silver for Britain thanks to Louis Smith.

:05:02. > :05:09.Justin Rose won gold in golf after Sunday puzzle with Henrik Stenson.

:05:10. > :05:15.Rose birdied 18, winning by two shots before celebrating in style.

:05:16. > :05:26.Giles Scott is guaranteed Olympic gold in his class after gaining an

:05:27. > :05:32.unassailable lead. It'll be Britain's fifth successive Olympic

:05:33. > :05:36.title in the event. Two time world champion Nick Dempsey, who turned 36

:05:37. > :05:39.on Saturday, became the first male windsurfer to win three Olympic

:05:40. > :05:46.medals, after his silver in the final medal race on Sunday.

:05:47. > :05:53.A reminder, tennis on BBC One, but we're heading back to the hockey,

:05:54. > :05:58.Netherlands leading 3-1. The one ranked team in the world, Australia,

:05:59. > :06:04.have it all to do, back to Simon and Matt.

:06:05. > :06:14.3-0 the scoreline at Deodoro, in favour of the Dutch.

:06:15. > :06:30.Governors first touch highlighting Australia's evening so far. --

:06:31. > :06:33.Govers. The Dutch supporters haven't stopped singing for the last 30

:06:34. > :06:41.minutes, they are in great voice tonight. Surely now on their way to

:06:42. > :06:46.the Olympic semifinal. But Australia have to strike back if they are to

:06:47. > :06:52.have any chance. Here they come, rampaging forward. Dwyer, Dwyer

:06:53. > :07:02.slips. Lets in Holland again. They break. Only as far as halfway.

:07:03. > :07:06.Classic turnover. Van Ass did need to run the ball, he taken it off the

:07:07. > :07:10.wire so well as Dwyer slips, he could have run to the sidelines away

:07:11. > :07:14.from contact, but he's given it to the Aussies again. The part of the

:07:15. > :07:17.pitch where Dwyer slipped is full of water, there was a problem with the

:07:18. > :07:21.sprinkler system before the start of the match, instead of moving around

:07:22. > :07:25.the field it sprayed all its water, gallons of it, in one particular

:07:26. > :07:32.part of the field. Deeper there than elsewhere.

:07:33. > :07:44.An aerial ball. It's on. Van der Horst has seen it. Didn't get enough

:07:45. > :07:55.on it to find his team-mate. Govers battling. Zalewski. On the right

:07:56. > :07:59.Australia start to look for way to put the Dutch defence and the Dutch

:08:00. > :08:05.goalkeeper, Stockmann, under pressure. If anybody was in any

:08:06. > :08:08.doubt as to whether the Dutch thought this game was over, their

:08:09. > :08:12.coach is bellowing from his dugout, screaming about every choice, every

:08:13. > :08:27.decision, there is no way he will take this result for granted.

:08:28. > :08:36.Danby all chasing it into the corner. Tries to find a way out. --

:08:37. > :08:46.Dan Beale. It comes off an Australian foot. For a free hit to

:08:47. > :08:50.Holland. Australia will get this. Needs to be careful knocking the

:08:51. > :09:06.ball away. Very disciplined from both side so far. Knowles. Ciriello

:09:07. > :09:11.plays it out to the right. He will get stuck in again. If he can catch

:09:12. > :09:21.the Dutch escape. Race down to the corner. Knowles has lost. There is a

:09:22. > :09:29.Dutch player... The past just came off the foot, it'll be a penalty

:09:30. > :09:35.corner, but de Voogd was waiting to have a shot. That is so selfish from

:09:36. > :09:39.him, his chase and run was amazing, the pace to get around Knowles,

:09:40. > :09:44.jabbed it, sucked the defender in, then to find the team-mate, he could

:09:45. > :09:51.have had a crack himself. But brilliant decision-making from

:09:52. > :09:58.Verga. Penalty corner for the Netherlands. Van Ass is there. A

:09:59. > :10:05.chance to put the game beyond any doubt.

:10:06. > :10:14.Here's the drag flick. Excellent running, great defence. Someone took

:10:15. > :10:18.a big hit. Unfortunately this is what is becoming prevalent in the

:10:19. > :10:23.men's game, I have a real issue with it, it's this direct suicide run.

:10:24. > :10:27.Double team. When we see the replay Marshall men run off the goal-line

:10:28. > :10:31.very close to each other and put a physical barrier between the striker

:10:32. > :10:37.and goal, allowing the goalkeeper to set themselves. As we watch, it

:10:38. > :10:40.comes out to van der Weerden. Look at those men deliberately shoulder

:10:41. > :10:45.to shoulder creating a visible block to deny a shot on goal. Sooner or

:10:46. > :10:50.later an international athlete is going to get really badly hurt.

:10:51. > :11:00.Kavanagh limping Ofcom he was the man who took it. -- Kavanagh limping

:11:01. > :11:02.off. He is off to receive some attention, I think. There will be

:11:03. > :11:15.another penalty corner for Holland. There isn't a 40 seconds delay.

:11:16. > :11:24.Australia have had to substitute Kavanagh because of the injury. They

:11:25. > :11:29.have an exceptional drag flicker. It's van der Weerden, can't find a

:11:30. > :11:32.way through. Another Australian has taken a massive hit and he's down.

:11:33. > :11:38.We seen this every match, it's insane. A number of people have

:11:39. > :11:41.asked about the number of penalty corner conversions, the lack, it's

:11:42. > :11:45.because of this ridiculous run. We've talked about it a number of

:11:46. > :11:50.times, look how direct... They are watching the ball, the stick is

:11:51. > :11:54.close, in front of the legs, the player is creating this barrier, not

:11:55. > :12:01.jumping. Yeah, it's brave, but at some stage if we allow them to wear

:12:02. > :12:05.kneepads, as a governing body, as a federation, surely it encourages

:12:06. > :12:09.that dangerous line of run. Matt Dawson took it that time. Third

:12:10. > :12:27.penalty corner. Van der Weerden. Wide. It's over.

:12:28. > :12:30.It's not, there's another penalty con, fourth opportunity. Took a

:12:31. > :12:35.deflection off Dawson's foot committee ran that one down.

:12:36. > :12:38.Straight down the middle of the goal, but his left foot on the

:12:39. > :12:46.penalties but as he accelerates toward van der Weerden to block.

:12:47. > :12:52.John Lynch locking. In my opinion he takes the ball right to go round the

:12:53. > :13:01.first runner. Van der Weerden again. This time no mistake. Holland 4-0

:13:02. > :13:08.Australia. Van der Weerden takes this out to the right around the

:13:09. > :13:11.first runner. Charter can't see it and he's delivered it straight down

:13:12. > :13:18.the channel that was open to him. Pulls it across, down the middle.

:13:19. > :13:21.Dawson can't get near it. Drag it through him. Charter covering the

:13:22. > :13:26.right-hand side of his goal. The winner was meant to cover the left.

:13:27. > :13:30.Doesn't get his foot out of the turf. That, in my opinion, is game

:13:31. > :13:36.over for Australia. Will Australia pull their goalkeeper? Will charter

:13:37. > :13:41.head of the field? Is it worth it four goals down? I think it's too

:13:42. > :13:47.far gone unless they get another goal back very quickly. No sign of

:13:48. > :13:51.that because the Dutch are on the break once again. Delightful little

:13:52. > :14:03.ball through. Chased all the way down. By Bob de Voogd. Hertzberger

:14:04. > :14:14.leaves it for Kemperman. Hertzberger. Kemperman again. Couple

:14:15. > :14:18.of little touches. In the Hague in 2014 in front of a Dutch crowd the

:14:19. > :14:26.Australians gave the Dutch a lesson to take that World Championship 6-1

:14:27. > :14:34.in the final. This weaving has been a lesson in ball-handling, fluidity,

:14:35. > :14:46.listening and communication. Scored the Netherlands first committee has

:14:47. > :14:57.been throughout, what a night he has had, Billy Bakker.

:14:58. > :15:10.Ockenden finds Turner. Billy Bakker and Ockenden colliding in midfield.

:15:11. > :15:17.Just able to track the all through the circle. Nothing is falling for

:15:18. > :15:32.Australia, the half chances just aren't there.

:15:33. > :15:48.Know, the whistle goes against Matthew Swann.

:15:49. > :15:55.The umpire needs the free it taken again. Substitutions are going on

:15:56. > :15:59.and the goalkeeper is going off. We expected it might happen and it is

:16:00. > :16:04.happening now. Andrew Charter is leaving the field so the Australians

:16:05. > :16:10.will play the last nine minutes with 11 outfield players. You feel they

:16:11. > :16:13.will throw everything at this the 23 minutes and try and create some

:16:14. > :16:17.goals and get themselves back into this game. They have to play a

:16:18. > :16:22.player now and I will be surprised if they don't go full court press

:16:23. > :16:26.and leave Dwyer as a target for the remaining nine minutes. The man

:16:27. > :16:35.wearing the different coloured shirt is the captain, Mark Knowles. Seve

:16:36. > :16:59.van as. They have got the width but I don't

:17:00. > :17:04.understand, the Australians still have four men in their back line.

:17:05. > :17:14.Why would you keep four man at the back? You need four men in the

:17:15. > :17:18.circle. There are three and now, no pressure on the goalkeeper for the

:17:19. > :17:22.Netherlands. I don't think I've ever seen a game where a goalkeeper has

:17:23. > :17:27.had less to do at this level. Yes, again some of the lesser teams but

:17:28. > :17:47.Australia are normally rampant in their opponent 's 23 and create

:17:48. > :17:51.chance. Wonderful skills on display. Jeroen Hertzberger is fermenting --

:17:52. > :17:55.tormenting Fergus Kavanagh in that corner. They doubled to give their

:17:56. > :18:03.opponents any chance get back into this game. It is an Olympic

:18:04. > :18:08.semifinal place up for grabs. There is the Dutch coast cup -- coach,

:18:09. > :18:12.still screaming his instructions. Billy Bakker. If my Dutch is good

:18:13. > :18:17.enough he is asking for two centres in the middle of the pitch to

:18:18. > :18:20.control possession. Just one man can get swarmed but if you have two when

:18:21. > :18:35.they have the ball you can easily find an out pass.

:18:36. > :18:40.A rather glum looking Graham Reid asking for one final push from his

:18:41. > :18:46.man. They have under seven minutes to make an impact in this match. And

:18:47. > :18:50.unfortunately for the Australian coach I am not sure there is

:18:51. > :18:54.anything he could do. He could be a tactical genius, but with this

:18:55. > :18:57.little time left and the lack of ball that the Australians have add,

:18:58. > :19:15.I'm not sure they can find anything at all. Matt Swann. Turner. Matt

:19:16. > :19:25.Swann with the free hit. Dwyer. Dwyer has been bullied out of the

:19:26. > :19:30.game throughout. What? Just everything they are doing is falling

:19:31. > :19:34.for them. Seve van Ass gets turned by Dwyer but somehow has rotated in

:19:35. > :19:42.the tackle and actually run away from Dwyer with the ball towards his

:19:43. > :19:43.own goal. A Dutch player down. I think Jeroen Hertzberger was winded

:19:44. > :20:08.in the contact. I think the rule is that if he is

:20:09. > :20:12.considered to be treated only has to go off a couple of minutes. He will

:20:13. > :20:21.be replaced. The medical team are just him away. Jeroen Hertzberger is

:20:22. > :20:36.able to walk off the field. No serious damage done.

:20:37. > :20:43.And the orange areas of the grandstands are full of joy and

:20:44. > :20:51.smiles. Rather glum in the green and gold section. Aerial ball, taken out

:20:52. > :21:08.of the air comfortably by Matt Swann. No goalkeeper. And knolls,

:21:09. > :21:17.with goalkeeping privileges, makes a crucial interception. Hoffman back

:21:18. > :21:23.from the front line and screaming at the boys for them to defend as well

:21:24. > :21:26.as attack. It would be so easy to release the pressure mentally, for

:21:27. > :21:29.the Dutch to relax and not do the chasing, but the outcome of the game

:21:30. > :21:44.is still dependent on them and running.

:21:45. > :21:52.A nice taken turn from Jake Whetton. Two Dutch men around him quickly.

:21:53. > :22:00.And possession is back with the Netherlands.

:22:01. > :22:05.Well, we are living the hockey but you can carry on watching via the

:22:06. > :22:09.Red Button for satellite and cable users. If you don't have a Red

:22:10. > :22:13.Button you can use the website or the BBC sport app by the Netherlands

:22:14. > :22:17.are in complete control at the moment against Australia. We will

:22:18. > :22:21.bring you any goals if there are only later on BBC Four. But we are

:22:22. > :22:24.going over to the velodrome for the Omnium where Mark Cavendish is

:22:25. > :22:31.hoping to make it third time lucky after failed to medal in Beijing and

:22:32. > :22:35.London. He is currently in third place. We can join Chris Boardman

:22:36. > :22:41.and Simon Brotherton. Thank you. This is the last race of

:22:42. > :22:45.the evening. Mark Cavendish will be very happy with how things have gone

:22:46. > :22:49.so far because he exceeded expectation in that individual

:22:50. > :22:53.pursuit which traditionally was one of his stronger events. He has come

:22:54. > :22:56.forward enormously with a ten second improvement from the World

:22:57. > :23:01.Championships which is unbelievable at this level of competition. He

:23:02. > :23:10.posted a time that could have won him a World Championships a few

:23:11. > :23:13.years ago. This is one of his more favoured events. He was second in

:23:14. > :23:15.this in the World Championships and what a fantastic event it is to

:23:16. > :23:20.watch. For people who are not familiar with the elimination race,

:23:21. > :23:27.give us the basics. I ride is pulled out every other lap and the last

:23:28. > :23:32.ride over the line will be told by the flash on that box. They are told

:23:33. > :23:38.they are the last over the line and they have to come out of the race.

:23:39. > :23:42.It should be about 38 or so laps. I say because if someone doesn't come

:23:43. > :23:47.out there was a was a crash they neutralise the bent and on this

:23:48. > :23:50.event it is not a rolling start and they go off the blocks health

:23:51. > :23:54.leather because it is so important to get a good position from the word

:23:55. > :23:58.go because the last rider is the one that is pulled out. The elimination

:23:59. > :24:05.happen every 30 seconds so it's physically brutal events. It has

:24:06. > :24:12.been a tough opening day with the scratch race in the opening -- team

:24:13. > :24:15.pursuit. No time to rest at all in this elimination race. The team will

:24:16. > :24:19.be whittled down to the last few and the excitement will build. It is

:24:20. > :24:22.unusual, normally you have three events in a day but one is in the

:24:23. > :24:25.morning to space them out but they have add all the big events in the

:24:26. > :24:28.evening tonight, which has been great for the spectators but for the

:24:29. > :24:32.riders there has been less than one hour between them and may have had a

:24:33. > :24:35.little pause because there is a minimum of 30 minutes between

:24:36. > :24:44.events. They really are piling it on here. There is the rider who is in

:24:45. > :24:52.the lead at the moment, the defending champion. Lasse Norman

:24:53. > :24:56.Hansen. He has got it all to do here, he is massively on format when

:24:57. > :25:02.he is happy he will roll them all away. The crowd will really get into

:25:03. > :25:12.this as well because unlike him -- unlike in all the other events there

:25:13. > :25:17.is a Brazilian rider here in this. It is Gideoni Monteiro, they cheered

:25:18. > :25:24.themselves hoarse for him earlier. Bobby Lee is off the back here. They

:25:25. > :25:28.are getting off fast here. The commissar has indicated for them to

:25:29. > :25:36.slow down. Bobby Lee was not in contact. As long as they are all in

:25:37. > :25:44.contact they will fire the gun and the first rider out will be in two

:25:45. > :25:47.lapsed time. The Brazilian rider, Gideoni Monteiro is desperate to

:25:48. > :25:51.ensure he is not one of the first riders out here. The electronic mark

:25:52. > :25:56.on the handlebars will flash if you are the last ride over the line.

:25:57. > :26:01.Next lap we will lose our first rider. That is what the Bell

:26:02. > :26:10.indicates. At the finish of the race there will be an elimination next

:26:11. > :26:13.time around. Here they come up towards the line. Lasse Hansen is

:26:14. > :26:22.the overall leader, and he has gone out already! I am sure he has gone

:26:23. > :26:27.out." All. It is. It is Lasse Hansen. That could be a gift there.

:26:28. > :26:33.He is the first man out, unbelievable! To see someone who was

:26:34. > :26:37.in line for an Olympic medal could be off the podium completely. A

:26:38. > :26:41.massive error for him. They are already up for the next sprint. A

:26:42. > :26:51.massive error, he was asleep and caught out. We are going to lose

:26:52. > :26:56.another rider here. It is Dylan Kennett from New Zealand. We think

:26:57. > :27:00.he got faith in the last race and that is yet to be connected --

:27:01. > :27:10.corrective. What a gift for Cavendish! Cavendish sits on the

:27:11. > :27:14.front of this elimination race and Jasper De Buyst is off the back at

:27:15. > :27:24.the moment. They are all bunching up. Jasper De Buyst it's pretty hard

:27:25. > :27:28.to try and avoid elimination and it might be Tim Veldt from the

:27:29. > :27:36.Netherlands. And it is. He is gone. Three times world silver medallist.

:27:37. > :27:40.A surprise. Cavendish is riding this terrifically. His experience in the

:27:41. > :27:53.Tour de France on the bunch finishes is serving him well. Tim Veldt three

:27:54. > :27:57.goes to the front. Jasper De Buyst was clearly the last man over the

:27:58. > :28:00.line. Cavendish is in the middle of the pack and a bit swamped at the

:28:01. > :28:04.moment and he has about 15 seconds to dig out of the hole but he is not

:28:05. > :28:09.afraid of argy-bargy and he pushes his way out and back on the outside.

:28:10. > :28:13.The bell again and Cavendish has nudged his way past the Korean rider

:28:14. > :28:25.and given himself some space. Bobby Lea is off the back at the moment.

:28:26. > :28:37.Glenn O'Shea from Australia is well placed. It is the Korean rider that

:28:38. > :28:41.has gone this time. Park from Korea. Hanson has given a lift -- gift here

:28:42. > :28:45.to the other contenders and Mark Cavendish needs to make sure he

:28:46. > :28:47.takes advantage of it. A second that the World Championships are so he

:28:48. > :28:53.knows his way around an elimination race. The crowd are rolling because

:28:54. > :29:02.the Brazilian rider is fighting hard to stay in it. Gideoni Monteiro has

:29:03. > :29:12.done it, and as they cross the line it is Kazushige Kuboki of Japan.

:29:13. > :29:18.Cavendish is riding really well. Actually it is Leung Chun Wing who

:29:19. > :29:28.has gone. Mark Cavendish is on the inside. He is just nudging his way

:29:29. > :29:36.out. Thomas Boudat France is at the back right now. Here they come. It

:29:37. > :29:44.might have been Roger Kluge who went, he was third after all. The

:29:45. > :29:47.door has won wide open here now. This is fantastic for Cavendish. It

:29:48. > :29:57.is a beautiful points race but he is a bit boxed in at the back row.

:29:58. > :30:03.Cavendish avoiding trouble at the moment, he's in the white helmet,

:30:04. > :30:07.midway back in the pack. Bobby Lee from the United States the latest

:30:08. > :30:10.rider to go out. We're slowly getting through the field as

:30:11. > :30:19.Cavendish goes to the front. He is happy to sit on the front now. He's

:30:20. > :30:23.got the legs to decant out -- dig himself out of any problems. He

:30:24. > :30:34.looks to be cruising along looking over his shoulder. Cavendish looking

:30:35. > :30:39.at Prado of Mexico as he goes around the outside. The Australian under

:30:40. > :30:47.pressure and gone. Really going well for Cavendish. Shoulder barging his

:30:48. > :30:53.rival out of the way. 18 laps remaining. The Brazilian rider going

:30:54. > :30:57.around the outside. The Australian out. Montero from Brazil goes to the

:30:58. > :31:06.front. Another rider will go next time over the line. It shows you how

:31:07. > :31:11.hard it is. This is a rougher event than the keirin. No margin for

:31:12. > :31:15.error, so tightly packed, Cavendish remains in control at the moment and

:31:16. > :31:20.I think Prado of Mexico the latest rider to go. If you watch the ride

:31:21. > :31:25.on the front, riding smoothly one pace, pushing the air, but they get

:31:26. > :31:32.even pace, at the back sprinting and printing, doing much more distance

:31:33. > :31:37.as well to come round. Commended... Boxed in, having a wrestling match

:31:38. > :31:44.with a rider from Kazakhstan. Viviani goes past Cavendish on the

:31:45. > :31:49.outside. Cavendish on the inside but he's going to be OK. Suter goes. An

:31:50. > :31:54.awful lot of shoulders involved in this event, pushing around.

:31:55. > :31:58.Cavendish has been pushing somebody out of the way every lap that we've

:31:59. > :32:03.seen thus far. He's in a difficult spot, third position, which is nice.

:32:04. > :32:11.A small group and he has no room to manoeuvre. Stuck on the inside at

:32:12. > :32:22.the moment. The Caddick Stanley trying to pin him in. Gaviria in the

:32:23. > :32:27.white on the inside. That's a problem, he came onto the Cote

:32:28. > :32:35.d'Azur, the judges might have a problem. He overtook off the track.

:32:36. > :32:39.They've called Cavendish out of the race for going off on the inside of

:32:40. > :32:42.the track as he tried to force his way through, bangs his handlebars in

:32:43. > :32:45.frustration, he missed an opportunity to gain more points on

:32:46. > :32:53.his rivals. He thought he was boxed in. You can't do that. It clear in

:32:54. > :33:09.the rules, what a shame. Gaviria is going to benefit here. I think the

:33:10. > :33:14.Brazilian is the latest rider out, yes Monteiro gets wild applause.

:33:15. > :33:21.Disappointment for Kavanagh H. He'll still be very angry, he didn't take

:33:22. > :33:34.full advantage of the situation. -- disappointment for Cavendish.

:33:35. > :33:44.Attritional sprinting I think you would call this. Relentless, every

:33:45. > :33:53.30 seconds sprint. Fighting in between, there is no letup. Down to

:33:54. > :33:58.four. Kuboki of Japan, Boudat of France, Gaviria in the white of

:33:59. > :34:02.Colombia. And Viviani from Italy. Three of the people we thought we

:34:03. > :34:10.would be contenders over all are involved in this race right at the

:34:11. > :34:14.business end. Kuboki from Japan is out. It leaves us with three, the

:34:15. > :34:24.world champion, the former world champion. And Viviani. Three classy

:34:25. > :34:30.riders. One more out now. He's made a move down the inside, they nodded

:34:31. > :34:36.out and Gaviria took advantage. -- nodded off. Slid onto the inside,

:34:37. > :34:40.down to the bottom of the track to lead in this sprint, they are

:34:41. > :34:45.closing in. Viviani is the second rider, trying to come over the top

:34:46. > :34:49.of Gaviria, they have, Gaviria goes. He launched his sprint too early,

:34:50. > :34:54.didn't have the legs to stay in front. Boudat and Viviani will

:34:55. > :34:59.compete for the last sprint to see who wins this third event in the

:35:00. > :35:04.omnium. Fatigue playing a part but Gaviria will be happy with solid

:35:05. > :35:13.third. Who will take the win here? And the full 40 points? Viviani

:35:14. > :35:18.laying off, should be depressed sprint of the two. It's all about

:35:19. > :35:24.who has the legs left. We're about to find out, Boudat of France, the

:35:25. > :35:28.2014 world champion, or will it be Viviani? You would put money on

:35:29. > :35:33.Viviani but Boudat giving a good go. Viviani beats him to the line.

:35:34. > :35:39.Viviani from Italy shows his class and wins the elimination race in the

:35:40. > :35:42.men's omnium. Cavendish riding so well, what could have been. Just

:35:43. > :35:49.that mistake overtaking on the inside. Still, a solid ride from

:35:50. > :35:54.him, it's not over. Unofficially, Boudat is in the lead over role.

:35:55. > :36:00.Viviani second place. Mark Cavendish stays in third. The biggest loser

:36:01. > :36:05.was latter Hansen, the defending Olympic champion, who could not have

:36:06. > :36:18.made a bigger hash of it if he tried. -- Lasse. Still a long way to

:36:19. > :36:26.go. Cavendish was cross. Hansen will be absolutely seething after that

:36:27. > :36:29.elimination race. Mark Cavendish down there just warming down at the

:36:30. > :36:34.end of the first day of competition in the men's omnium. Halfway through

:36:35. > :36:38.it, he's in medal position, riding strongly. That's why he was

:36:39. > :36:43.disqualified, for coming through on the inside. To be honest... Overtook

:36:44. > :36:50.on the inside. The question is would it have affected the result? I think

:36:51. > :36:55.it might have done actually. It was a fair call. He was boxed on the

:36:56. > :37:00.inside. Tactics is a big chunk of this, he knew it, too, that's why he

:37:01. > :37:05.made the move. He was under threat of being boxed in on the inside for

:37:06. > :37:09.a lot of laps. The last couple of sprints he got himself into a hole

:37:10. > :37:13.that he couldn't get out of. Frustration got the better of him.

:37:14. > :37:18.He is against them classy riders, track riders who have been doing

:37:19. > :37:26.this for many years. He's mixing it at the top end the leaderboard.

:37:27. > :37:30.Boudat from France. World champion two years ago. Leading the

:37:31. > :37:34.standings. The man in second place Viviani from Italy. It was a good

:37:35. > :37:39.battle between them on the last lap. You would have placed your money on

:37:40. > :37:43.the Italian to win that duel. Boudat, who was ninth in the World

:37:44. > :37:46.Championship this year, clearly has much better form in VO. He took the

:37:47. > :37:58.fight to Viviani. Leading rider after three of six

:37:59. > :38:03.events in the men's omnium. Viviani from Italy is in second place on 106

:38:04. > :38:12.points after taking 40 from that elimination race. As the winner.

:38:13. > :38:16.Mark Cavendish in third place. 28 points from the elimination race.

:38:17. > :38:22.He's put himself very much in contention in this opening day of

:38:23. > :38:26.competition. The silver medallist in the World Championship this year,

:38:27. > :38:29.Kluge, in fourth. He dropped a fair number of points in that race. But

:38:30. > :38:43.it is Boudat who leads the way. Perhaps not the best result for Mark

:38:44. > :38:55.Cavendish. That event continues tomorrow. We've been taking in the

:38:56. > :39:00.hockey from Deodoro. Earlier we saw the action featuring Netherlands and

:39:01. > :39:05.Australia. The Aussies suffered a heavy defeat, as you can gather from

:39:06. > :39:09.looking at the seams in the aftermath of losing to the

:39:10. > :39:13.Netherlands. Quickly on the back foot, the number one team in the

:39:14. > :39:18.world, Australia. They struggled all the way through. The Netherlands,

:39:19. > :39:27.who have been in fine form, were too sharp for the hockey ruse. -- the

:39:28. > :39:31.hockey Roos. The women through to the quarterfinals, winning all five

:39:32. > :39:37.pool matches. They play Spain tomorrow at 6pm real-time, 10pm UK

:39:38. > :39:38.time. We'll show you how the quarterfinals have gone so far in

:39:39. > :40:02.the men's competition. That takes place in just under an

:40:03. > :40:07.hour, we'll bring you news of that later on. We're heading over to the

:40:08. > :40:13.boxing now. Pat McCormick is in action. Looking forward to him

:40:14. > :40:17.fighting to later of Cuba in the men's light welterweight

:40:18. > :40:21.competition. To later was a bronze medallist in London. A tough bout

:40:22. > :40:46.for the comic. -- Toledo was a bronze medallist. -- for McCormick.

:40:47. > :40:53.We have one more contest to come in the 64 kilograms light welterweight

:40:54. > :41:06.division and it features Pat McCormick against a very competent

:41:07. > :41:11.Cuban. The judges are used Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Canada, Morocco,

:41:12. > :41:45.Hungary. Please welcome the boxer in the red

:41:46. > :42:00.corner, representing Great Britain... Pat McCormack.

:42:01. > :42:05.Confidently into the arena for the second appearance of this 20 16th

:42:06. > :42:09.Rio Olympic Games. Pat McCormack, 21 years of age. Preparing to face a

:42:10. > :42:25.very accomplished operator indeed. ANNOUNCER: Yasniel Toledo! Two time

:42:26. > :42:33.Olympian Yasniel Toledo, 26 years of age. The reigning Olympic bronze

:42:34. > :42:42.medallist from London 2012. At 60 kilograms. It took the incomparable

:42:43. > :42:47.boxer to beat him in that gold medal bout. Here he is against Pat

:42:48. > :42:51.McCormack, the tournament number two seed. First contest of the

:42:52. > :42:59.tournament for him having had a bye. He's had a long wait. Who can make

:43:00. > :43:12.the better start? Representing Great Britain...

:43:13. > :43:28.Introducing the boxer in the blue corner, representing Cuba...

:43:29. > :44:01.We are. 64 light welterweight action being contested between 28 boxes.

:44:02. > :44:05.This matchup between men from Great Britain and Cuba. The man getting

:44:06. > :44:09.through with a good right hand to begin his opening round, wearing red

:44:10. > :44:14.gum is Great Britain's Pat McCormack from Sunderland, 21 years of age.

:44:15. > :44:18.Part of the... Born in Sunderland but represents Birtley boxing club,

:44:19. > :44:22.it's where he resides when he's not at being the Institute of sport in

:44:23. > :44:27.Sheffield. The man in blue is Yasniel Toledo, reigning Olympic

:44:28. > :44:33.bronze medallist from London four years ago. His first outing of 2016

:44:34. > :44:39.in Rio. He's had an incredibly long wait to get his campaign underway.

:44:40. > :44:43.To get his campaign underway. Really important McCormack hold his ground,

:44:44. > :44:49.doesn't want to be pushed back against this Cuban. Keep this Cuban

:44:50. > :44:53.off-balance, that long straight jab. The Cuban comes forward. Very

:44:54. > :44:58.important to show the judges you won't be bullied, won't be pushed

:44:59. > :45:03.back, you will hold your ground and hit your opponent as he comes. As

:45:04. > :45:07.well as the Olympic bronze, McCormack helped himself to a

:45:08. > :45:11.straight hands down the pipe... This will be a real thinking contest this

:45:12. > :45:16.one, both boxers incredibly skilful. Openings could be hard to come by

:45:17. > :45:35.unless you can initiate a mistake that you can immediately counter.

:45:36. > :45:42.McCormick just has to measure his opponent. He has done well up until

:45:43. > :45:45.now. This contest has been like a game of physical chess and each box

:45:46. > :45:50.is trying to make the other one make a mistake and then they will get

:45:51. > :45:55.punished. That is a nice right hand from McCormac. He needs to trigger

:45:56. > :46:03.his opponent off with the jab and then bring him onto the right hand.

:46:04. > :46:07.A successful salvo for Toledo a few moments ago. A good left hand the

:46:08. > :46:17.body from the man in blue. McCormack 's right-hand on top wasn't far

:46:18. > :46:20.away. McCormack was terrific in his opening round against a teen

:46:21. > :46:27.sensation from Kazakhstan. He was the reigning youth champion and a

:46:28. > :46:33.youth gold medallist from 2014. McCormack was more than a match for

:46:34. > :46:37.him in the first preliminary round. This is a good opening round I think

:46:38. > :46:42.from McCormack, he is keeping the Cuban fairly quiet and you often see

:46:43. > :46:47.Toledo on his feet and moving in and out and he has not been allowed to

:46:48. > :46:54.do that because McCormack is holding his ground well. That is not a bad

:46:55. > :47:03.round for the British boxer. Into the ring is David Alloway, let's see

:47:04. > :47:09.if we can listen in. You are adjusting well but you need to go

:47:10. > :47:16.back again, all right? If you go back, all right. He is saying that

:47:17. > :47:21.you are making him miss and you need to go back and make him pay.

:47:22. > :47:25.Exactly, to trigger him off, make him a flamingo back at him. A couple

:47:26. > :47:31.of good shots there from Toledo. A fairly quiet run from both boxes so

:47:32. > :47:36.let's look at the scores. McCormack gets one and Toledo gets two of the

:47:37. > :47:51.judges so it is very close and there is not much in it.

:47:52. > :48:00.Into the second round we go, then. Pat McCormack, the reigning European

:48:01. > :48:03.Championship silver medallist and Yasniel Toledo, the reigning

:48:04. > :48:10.two-time World Championship bronze medallist, at 64 kilograms and

:48:11. > :48:15.McCormac getting onto that front foot now I'm working behind a long

:48:16. > :48:21.and straight left jab. Working well with that shot. Toledo is the number

:48:22. > :48:24.two seed, one of the favourites to win the gold-medal. McCormack has

:48:25. > :48:28.come from nowhere and he is boxing well. Just have too upped the tempo

:48:29. > :48:32.sometimes, make him miss and bring him onto the shot. Trigger him off

:48:33. > :48:36.with the jab, that is the important move. They go with that shot there.

:48:37. > :48:43.Cuba comes back in the league is back him with that right hand. A

:48:44. > :48:52.change of jabs on that occasion and Toledo wasn't too far away out of

:48:53. > :48:57.that port sided stance. First and third boxing from McCormack here,

:48:58. > :49:02.that is what is needed. That is nice, that one too, straight down

:49:03. > :49:17.the pipe. It is a good southpaw left from Toledo, catching McCormack.

:49:18. > :49:26.Openings are so difficult to come by, Sam -- Toledo starting to find

:49:27. > :49:30.arrangement that southpaw wrap and eliciting a rapid response from

:49:31. > :49:37.McCormack. Terrific right hand to the body from Toledo. He has to up

:49:38. > :49:42.the pace himself here, McCormack. Toledo is going through the gears a

:49:43. > :49:45.little bit but he knows here's here with no monthly, it is the quietest

:49:46. > :49:50.I have seen this Cuban for a long time. I have watched over the years.

:49:51. > :49:54.He is a terrific box and a terrific move but he knows he cannot make

:49:55. > :50:02.mistakes. That is why he is working fairly low. Effective blocking of

:50:03. > :50:11.that shot with the left arm from Toledo. A quick glance over to the

:50:12. > :50:16.blue corner and seeking reassurance from the reigning World Championship

:50:17. > :50:21.bronze medallist. Toledo is certainly not working at the pacey

:50:22. > :50:25.normally works that because of McCormack intelligently staying on

:50:26. > :50:32.the outside and using his right hand well. He has to do a bit more

:50:33. > :50:35.though, McCormack. A cracking left hand once again from Toledo. It was

:50:36. > :50:49.the eye-catching shot of that exchange.

:50:50. > :50:57.Stop, stop. Another very good round of skilful boxing. Remember the

:50:58. > :50:59.first round was shaded, two judges to one favouring the work of Yasniel

:51:00. > :51:14.Toledo. So, McCormack hey just gets caught

:51:15. > :51:19.with a shot, won two in and out there from his Cuban opponent. It is

:51:20. > :51:22.a good shot and a good opponent from Toledo, but he is not boxing at the

:51:23. > :51:28.pacey normally does. He knows he can't afford to make any mistakes.

:51:29. > :51:34.Let's look at the scores now. Again McCormack gets one and the other

:51:35. > :51:38.judges go for Toledo. Very close, but again the McCormack probably has

:51:39. > :51:46.to do a little bit more work. Going into the third and final round two

:51:47. > :51:52.of the judges have Toledo two points ahead and judge Ahaz McCormack ahead

:51:53. > :51:56.by the same margin. As we move into the third and final round of the

:51:57. > :52:04.20-year-old from Burnley needs a huge final round here to get back on

:52:05. > :52:09.terms. Two of the three judges who have scored in his favour, BNC

:52:10. > :52:17.favouring the man in blue. Ten points to nine across both rounds

:52:18. > :52:25.one and two. The good right hand by McCormack. He has been in such a

:52:26. > :52:33.rich vein of form as he continues to work towards fulfilling his immense

:52:34. > :52:38.potential. He was named a boxer of the year in 2006 and he put together

:52:39. > :52:44.a fantastic campaign over the five round format, whether boxers compete

:52:45. > :52:47.without a vest, representing their respective club, nation clubs,

:52:48. > :52:54.British Lion hearts of British franchise. Toledo is operating at a

:52:55. > :53:04.comfortable tempo he and his right jab is proving to be really

:53:05. > :53:09.effective. Can McCormack close the distance and raise the tempo in an

:53:10. > :53:15.effort to find a 10-8 round that he needs to get back on terms for two

:53:16. > :53:18.of the judges. That right-hand wasn't too far away. He has to be

:53:19. > :53:22.busy with distance because if he goes forward and just makes mistakes

:53:23. > :53:28.of closing the gap down to quickly he will walk onto shots. Toledo is a

:53:29. > :53:33.very skilful man which is why it is a cautious approach from Pat. He

:53:34. > :53:36.needs to do more work and work more with the straight shots. That is a

:53:37. > :53:42.little bit better, he made his opponent missed that. Get it right

:53:43. > :53:45.as well, McCormack has had the toughest draw for the Brits here, he

:53:46. > :53:50.had a tough caveat in his first round and it was out of the contest

:53:51. > :53:54.and Toledo in the second round, he has boxed to-do of the favourites

:53:55. > :53:59.for the Gold so the draw couldn't be tougher for this young fella, but

:54:00. > :54:02.again he is boxing very well indeed but he is just being beaten to the

:54:03. > :54:07.punch here are not doing enough work, but all credit to, it is a

:54:08. > :54:13.great tips -- it is a great display in this tournament so far. It is a

:54:14. > :54:17.tough draw but everyone who follows Olympic style boxing knows about the

:54:18. > :54:22.pre-eminence of the Cubans, since their first gold medals in 1972. A

:54:23. > :54:27.terrific southpaw left from Toledo. The same shot in evidence once

:54:28. > :54:32.again, this time behind a right jab but since behind their independent

:54:33. > :54:35.appearance in 1995 in the Atlanta games Kazakhstan have emerged as one

:54:36. > :54:43.of the powerhouse boxing programmes on the planet. McCormack has faced a

:54:44. > :54:47.Kazakhstan Sandy Cuban in the first two bouts in his Olympic career. He

:54:48. > :54:52.will come out second best in this one but let us hope that at just 21

:54:53. > :54:57.years of age that McCormack, the three-time British champion and the

:54:58. > :55:03.four-time English national champion, chooses to stick around for Tokyo

:55:04. > :55:06.2020. He will be 25 years of age when Tokyo 2020 rolls around and if

:55:07. > :55:10.he can acquit himself like that against the number three ranked

:55:11. > :55:13.boxer in the world, reigning Olympic bronze medallist then it gives you

:55:14. > :55:18.an idea of the immense talent that the former world junior champion

:55:19. > :55:23.possesses. Long gone are the days when the Cubans totally dominated

:55:24. > :55:28.and outboxed the British boxers. McCormack acquitted himself very

:55:29. > :55:33.well here. The young fella from the north-east. He's been beaten but

:55:34. > :55:37.there's not a lot in this contest at all, considering his tour he's done

:55:38. > :55:41.well in the Olympic Games and he can be proud of himself and, you are

:55:42. > :55:49.right, he has to stick around for Tokyo. I think is good enough to the

:55:50. > :55:56.gold. The winner by a split decision...

:55:57. > :56:06.In the blue corner... Yasniel Toledo! That is a nice and warm

:56:07. > :56:09.brace of respect from Yasniel Toledo, the tournament number two

:56:10. > :56:12.seed, the number three ranked boxer in the world, the reigning Olympic

:56:13. > :56:21.bronze medallist from the 60 kilograms lightweight division, four

:56:22. > :56:25.years ago in London he was only bested by a formidable opponent and

:56:26. > :56:29.he has produced a split decision victory over Great Britain 's

:56:30. > :56:32.McCormack, who took the third and final round across the board for all

:56:33. > :56:38.three judges and there was very little in it and one can only hope

:56:39. > :56:41.that Pat McCormack, who is a serious competitor and will be disappointed

:56:42. > :56:45.right now, but one can only hope that when he reflects on this it

:56:46. > :56:48.will give him a barometer of just how talented he is because he had a

:56:49. > :56:54.very competitive encounter against one of the very best in the world.

:56:55. > :56:59.One of the favourites for the gold, isn't he, let's face it, Toledo. I

:57:00. > :57:04.hope the coaches will give Pat McCormack a big hug because they are

:57:05. > :57:17.very proud of him and I certainly am, he boxed very well there. The

:57:18. > :57:22.judges are Colombia, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. We

:57:23. > :57:28.are preparing for the next contest which features another British

:57:29. > :57:33.boxer, Toledo and McCormack making their way down to the mixed zone and

:57:34. > :57:40.we can hand down in a few moments time when we will hear the immediate

:57:41. > :57:45.post forts of Great Britain 's Pat McCormack, who acquitted himself

:57:46. > :57:52.very well indeed, but has been eliminated by the reigning two-time

:57:53. > :57:56.World Championship bronze medallist Toledo of Cuba, wonderful

:57:57. > :58:03.educational performance, but he is eliminated at the second preliminary

:58:04. > :58:07.round. Joshua Buatsi makes his way into the

:58:08. > :58:15.boxing ring, and what an Olympic tournament he has had so far. Two

:58:16. > :58:19.bouts, two third-round stoppage is, and I can tell you that Floyd

:58:20. > :58:23.Mayweather is in the house for the second successive night here at the

:58:24. > :58:31.Olympic boxing venue and a Joshua Buatsi got himself a photograph with

:58:32. > :58:34.him yesterday. Here is his opponent, Abdelhafid Benchabla. So much

:58:35. > :58:44.experience and a superstar in his native Algeria.

:58:45. > :58:48.In the end then, Pat, it was close and a split decision -- split

:58:49. > :58:54.decision. Any doubts about that in the end? I am absolutely gutted. I

:58:55. > :59:00.thought I had done enough to win but they dream is over now. Can you be a

:59:01. > :59:06.finger on exactly what went wrong in the ring? It was a close fight and

:59:07. > :59:10.obviously I never win close fights so I only win when I win by a lot

:59:11. > :59:17.and not when it is close so it is what it is. Knowing that that boxer

:59:18. > :59:21.was the second best in this competition at that weight, does it

:59:22. > :59:25.affect your mental preparation? I want to be the best so I had to be

:59:26. > :59:29.seen if I am to be the best but he has been at this level for years and

:59:30. > :59:33.I am a 21 and I haven't so it showed a bit in the ring. Not the result

:59:34. > :59:37.you wanted, of course, but what do you take away from the Olympic

:59:38. > :59:50.debut? I know I am one of the best in the well because I am mixing with

:59:51. > :59:52.them and I only lost on a split decision and I had a terrible draw

:59:53. > :59:55.with Kazakhstan and the number two seed, I couldn't, were/ so it wasn't

:59:56. > :00:03.to be. I'm sorry about that but all the best for the future. This is the

:00:04. > :00:07.opening round of the light heavyweight contest and the winner

:00:08. > :00:10.goes through to the final four and a guaranteed bronze medal at least. It

:00:11. > :00:15.features Joshua Buatsi who has helped itself to cracking left hook

:00:16. > :00:16.and a right and that caught the man in blue, Abdelhafid Benchabla and it

:00:17. > :00:31.caused him to lose his balance. I must point out that the man in

:00:32. > :00:39.blue, the three-time Olympian and two time quarterfinalist often sways

:00:40. > :00:48.like a scarecrow in a breeze. Can be quite deceptive. But Joshua

:00:49. > :00:56.Buatsi... What isn't deceptive, he's on the receiving end, getting beat.

:00:57. > :00:59.He will have heard his team-mate has got beaten but he's kept the

:01:00. > :01:06.blinkers on, the time of vision. He's got rid of that. Straight on

:01:07. > :01:11.the front foot looking to command this contest, that's what he's doing

:01:12. > :01:14.now. Asda move his head more on the front foot but looking for this big

:01:15. > :01:22.right hand. Just missed the target, switches again downstairs. A strong

:01:23. > :01:28.start from Josh Buatsi. Brilliant first half of this opening round by

:01:29. > :01:32.Josh Buatsi, working effectively bind the jab, Benchabla almost

:01:33. > :01:36.exclusively on the back foot. That's the manner in which he delivers his

:01:37. > :01:40.punches, the man in blue, arm punches. Punches lashed out without

:01:41. > :01:47.much pop on them. They are slashing shots. A very experienced operator,

:01:48. > :01:51.the 29-year-old competing here at his third successive Olympic Games.

:01:52. > :01:58.Terrific combinations of body and head. Continues to go on the

:01:59. > :02:02.rampage. Standing count has been issued, Benchabla can't believe it.

:02:03. > :02:10.The pressure applied by Buatsi reaping dividends. He's getting

:02:11. > :02:15.caught with big shots here, Benchabla, his guard all over the

:02:16. > :02:20.place. Plenty of punches coming from him but not as accurate as Buatsi.

:02:21. > :02:24.Buatsi has to keep pushing him with that jab and send the right-hand

:02:25. > :02:29.home, it's the punch really giving problems to Benchabla, who can't

:02:30. > :02:36.suss out the style of this British boxer, who is having a great first

:02:37. > :02:43.round. Wonderful left jab from Buatsi. Now Benchabla with those

:02:44. > :02:47.claiming punches trying to find a response. This opening round has

:02:48. > :02:55.been all Buatsi. Good work to the body. He tried to come back with

:02:56. > :02:59.roundhouse punch is upstairs but Josh Buatsi continuing in the same

:03:00. > :03:04.vein he has demonstrated all tournament long to this point. He's

:03:05. > :03:10.shown real mental strength. He will have heard about his team-mate Pat

:03:11. > :03:14.McCormack just going out. Now what he's doing on that front foot,

:03:15. > :03:19.catching his opponent, what a switch of attack that was. Left of the

:03:20. > :03:23.body, right hand over the top, super punches. Benchabla all over the

:03:24. > :03:27.place at times in this round, great positive start, showed great mental

:03:28. > :03:32.strength did the man from London. Right hand over the shop, that was

:03:33. > :03:42.his best shot, super punch. A clear round for the British boxer.

:03:43. > :03:45.Benchabla swept unanimously in the opening round, brilliant round for

:03:46. > :04:01.Britain's Josh Buatsi. Into the second round we go.

:04:02. > :04:07.Benchabla has conceded the opening round because he's been put under

:04:08. > :04:11.pressure by shots like that. Benchabla is not one to panic.

:04:12. > :04:18.Again, his style is a little ungainly at times. Got to back him

:04:19. > :04:22.up here, keep that front foot pressure on, getting back on the

:04:23. > :04:27.ropes, let this fellow work from centre ring, then he's a different

:04:28. > :04:31.of fish, has success. Buatsi moves the head going forward, pushing

:04:32. > :04:38.back. Abdelhafid Benchabla ranked number four in the world. Buatsi

:04:39. > :04:42.18th ranked boxer in the world who continues on his meteoric rise.

:04:43. > :04:46.Buatsi came back with another one that caused Benchabla to go

:04:47. > :04:52.backwards, then a thunderous right cross. Right on to Benchabla's chin.

:04:53. > :04:56.These men exchanging big shots. Buatsi who is landing the cleaner,

:04:57. > :05:01.better quality punches and Benchabla being forced backwards into the

:05:02. > :05:05.ropes. A good shot to the body from Buatsi, the head shots taking their

:05:06. > :05:12.toll. Another good body shot, they will take their toll, rightly so.

:05:13. > :05:17.The second standing count issued against Abdelhafid Benchabla. And

:05:18. > :05:21.Josh Buatsi is indicating he's OK. I think Josh Buatsi is looking for his

:05:22. > :05:27.dead inside the distance victory here. On the front foot looking for

:05:28. > :05:33.another standing count in this contest, over. Important he doesn't

:05:34. > :05:39.neglect his boxing, keep with the jab. He's got to get back to his

:05:40. > :05:43.boxing, set himself up again. It's important there is a structure to

:05:44. > :05:49.his work with the jab, then set him up with the right hand. Bad body

:05:50. > :05:58.language coming from Benchabla, looking to observe beyond the ring.

:05:59. > :06:03.Benchabla trying to rally. He's a proud individual, the two Olympian

:06:04. > :06:06.quarterfinalist. He is being met with an inspired performer in the

:06:07. > :06:14.form of Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi. There is no respect from

:06:15. > :06:18.Buatsi, sorry, Benchabla. Buatsi strong on the front foot, prepared

:06:19. > :06:22.to take the odd shot to land a big one. That's it, it's all over. I

:06:23. > :06:27.thought it was over, my goodness, the referee intervened and waved his

:06:28. > :06:33.hand. Is the end is nigh? Josh Buatsi after landing a cracking left

:06:34. > :06:41.hook. Continues with his marauding attack. Josh keeps chipping in with

:06:42. > :06:44.his head after he thrown the shot, he's indicated to keep his head up,

:06:45. > :06:50.what a right hand that was again from Buatsi. He said again, keep

:06:51. > :06:54.your head up. Buatsi just has to concentrate again here. Again a

:06:55. > :07:02.dominant round, could be 10-8 again here for one or two of the judges.

:07:03. > :07:10.10-8 for judge C. And Benchabla being read the riot act.

:07:11. > :07:18.He's saying, do you want it? What have you got left? Buatsi landing

:07:19. > :07:24.with that big right hand. And again, to the head. Left hook comes

:07:25. > :07:28.through, set himself up with the left, a good jab. Then sinks the

:07:29. > :07:39.body shop downstairs. That brought the standing count. Great jab. --

:07:40. > :07:48.the body shot. 10-8 by two judges. I totally agree, it was such a

:07:49. > :07:59.dominant round for Buatsi. 20-17 for all three judges. Benchabla the

:08:00. > :08:00.fourth ranked boxer in the world, reigning two time African

:08:01. > :08:09.continental championship gold medallist. Being overrun here by

:08:10. > :08:15.Joshua Buatsi. He's got a commanding margin of advantage for all three

:08:16. > :08:20.judges, Buatsi. Benchabla has had standing count issued against him in

:08:21. > :08:25.round one and two. One more and the contest is over. Buatsi is an

:08:26. > :08:31.unforgiving individual inside the boxing ring, the nicest guy you

:08:32. > :08:34.could hope to meet. Once the bell sounds he becomes a merciless

:08:35. > :08:39.finisher. Tell you what, Benchabla still hasn't recovered from these

:08:40. > :08:43.body shots. Still hasn't recovered with the body shots. You can see,

:08:44. > :08:49.trust me, he'll still be feeling that. That's why Buatsi is still

:08:50. > :08:53.targeting the body. There is the right hand. He has to set it up

:08:54. > :09:03.better than that, though. It's dominant from Buatsi. So, Benchabla,

:09:04. > :09:07.far more circumspect. Now takes a big right hand around the corner.

:09:08. > :09:14.He's in the corner, he doesn't want to be there. Trading blows without

:09:15. > :09:18.caution, the two boxers. It's Buatsi demonstrating stout punch resistance

:09:19. > :09:23.and more forceful accurate shots. He's shown a bit of bottle now,

:09:24. > :09:29.Benchabla, good shot, then came back. The last throw of the dice for

:09:30. > :09:32.Benchabla. Joshua Buatsi has to get back to his boxing, that strong jab

:09:33. > :09:37.on the front foot, pushing back. That's what he's got to do. You'd

:09:38. > :09:40.expect nothing less from a man competing in his third consecutive

:09:41. > :09:46.Olympic quarterfinal. We mentioned Abdelhafid Benchabla is a superstar.

:09:47. > :09:51.The flag bearer for his entire nation at the opening ceremony of

:09:52. > :09:55.the London 2012 Olympics. Buatsi knows he's in with a tough

:09:56. > :10:03.experienced man. Benchabla backing up. One could suspect he's saving

:10:04. > :10:07.himself for one big, final rally if he goes in search of the finishing

:10:08. > :10:11.punch he needs, given the status of the scorecards coming into the third

:10:12. > :10:17.and final round. It's quite important to keep your boxing

:10:18. > :10:22.together behind the jab. Lovely jab, Buatsi, the most basic of all shots.

:10:23. > :10:26.So effective. Benchabla has a second win, fancies his chances with 30

:10:27. > :10:31.seconds to go, just got to keep it together, Josh Buatsi. Concentration

:10:32. > :10:36.absolutely vital, Benchabla is going to throw everything at Buatsi in an

:10:37. > :10:46.effort to make it through to the medal podium for the first time. Big

:10:47. > :10:52.right uppercut. Goes in from Buatsi. Here is the ten second club, Buatsi

:10:53. > :10:56.knows he's been in a hard contest here, but it's a contest he has

:10:57. > :11:00.dominated. The bell sounds to conclude the third and final round

:11:01. > :11:05.in the 81 kilograms light heavyweight quarterfinal. But Joshua

:11:06. > :11:14.Buatsi has botched the contest from opening bell. The reigning two time

:11:15. > :11:21.Olympic game quarterfinalist has made it through. Benchabla has been

:11:22. > :11:25.dominated from the outset, he's done well to make it to the final bell,

:11:26. > :11:29.he showed immense pride and courage and punch resistance to be still

:11:30. > :11:35.standing in the face of the onslaught from Josh Buatsi. Last

:11:36. > :11:39.round he had a little bit of a go here, Benchabla. Buatsi foolish to

:11:40. > :11:43.stand in front of his opponent with hands down, get their hands up.

:11:44. > :11:48.Nonetheless, dominant display, the first two rounds were terrific for

:11:49. > :11:57.Buatsi. He's won a unanimous decision, he's got a medal.

:11:58. > :12:10.ANNOUNCER: the winner by unanimous decision... In the red corner,

:12:11. > :12:15.Joshua Buatsi. Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi gives thanks. He is

:12:16. > :12:20.through to the final four and a medal podium of the 81 kilograms

:12:21. > :12:25.light heavyweight division. Terrific display by the man ranked number 18

:12:26. > :12:31.in the world. He eliminates the fourth round boxer in the world. --

:12:32. > :12:36.fourth ranked. The experienced Abdelhafid Benchabla. With a

:12:37. > :12:40.performance of powerful, precise punching that he began in the

:12:41. > :12:46.opening round and was unrelenting throughout the three three-minute

:12:47. > :12:54.rounds. He threw to the semifinal stage. Joshua Buatsi leaves this,

:12:55. > :13:00.his first Olympic Games, with some championship hardware. At least

:13:01. > :13:04.Olympic bronze for Britain's Josh Buatsi, a brilliant display. But

:13:05. > :13:08.he's on a mission for nothing less than Olympic gold. Tremendous

:13:09. > :13:12.display from Buatsi, came into the contest knowing his team-mate had

:13:13. > :13:18.just been beaten, showed great mental strength. Put that aside. Had

:13:19. > :13:23.a great first round, was accurate, powerful, he hurt his man early,

:13:24. > :13:28.that was important, because he is a decent fighter, Benchabla from

:13:29. > :13:32.Algeria. A tough kid. He was met by sheer power, precision punching from

:13:33. > :13:36.Buatsi. Terrific first round, stamped his authority on the

:13:37. > :13:41.contest. So proud of him. No one deserves it more. The lad worked so

:13:42. > :13:46.hard in the gym, he deserves every bit of the success he is

:13:47. > :13:51.experiencing now. By guaranteeing Olympic bronze in the 81 kilograms

:13:52. > :13:55.light heavyweight division, Great Britain's Joshua Buatsi has emulated

:13:56. > :14:02.Tony Jeffries in Beijing in 2008, and Harold Franks, way back in

:14:03. > :14:06.Antwerp 1920. Remember the mission isn't complete yet. Josh Buatsi

:14:07. > :14:11.wants to go through to the gold-medal bout. Where he hopes to

:14:12. > :14:16.occupy top spot on the medal podium. That semifinal will take place on

:14:17. > :14:24.16th August in the evening session. And his second semifinal being

:14:25. > :14:27.introduced now will determine who Buatsi is facing. Make no mistake,

:14:28. > :14:33.the rest of the light heavyweight division will now know about Great

:14:34. > :14:37.Britain's Josh Buatsi, the reigning championship bronze medallist has

:14:38. > :14:45.just become an Olympic bronze medallist at least. Plenty more

:14:46. > :14:50.fight in the hands, hearts and fists of Josh Buatsi, he wants to book a

:14:51. > :14:58.place in the gold-medal bout. Terrific display.

:14:59. > :15:06.Terrific display by Buatsi. And a second semifinal about to take place

:15:07. > :15:12.in the ring, between another two quality operators. The victor from

:15:13. > :15:23.that contest is who Buatsi will face.

:15:24. > :15:30.So, Joshua Buatsi, well, we can tell you what an emerging star this lad

:15:31. > :15:36.is because he is running the gauntlet on the field of pay and all

:15:37. > :15:40.of the worlds press want to talk to this man and to discuss that Floyd

:15:41. > :15:49.Mayweather, the money man, here's in the house here at the Riocentro. For

:15:50. > :15:56.the second successive night he has put out on social media that he is

:15:57. > :16:02.here and scouting future Olympic champions and he is still in --

:16:03. > :16:06.Joshua Buatsi is still in the mix to be a Olympic champion and he has

:16:07. > :16:11.announced himself on the biggest stage of all, the Olympic Games. It

:16:12. > :16:15.is all up to Joshua Buatsi now. He will meet the winner of this context

:16:16. > :16:20.coming up. He is a great character and no one deserves it more than

:16:21. > :16:24.him. He is in the presence of Floyd Mayweather. I thought I was the top

:16:25. > :16:33.dog around here but Floyd Mayweather is in the house. You are in my eyes!

:16:34. > :16:39.Joshua Buatsi still fulfilling his media commitments down in the mix

:16:40. > :16:44.zone, but let's head down to just who is speaking to a man who has

:16:45. > :16:51.guaranteed himself Olympic bronze, Joshua Buatsi.

:16:52. > :16:56.You have guaranteed yourself at least a bronze medal on your Olympic

:16:57. > :17:01.debut, what you make of that? Man, I need to go home and get changed and

:17:02. > :17:05.it will sink in. We go again in two days' time and the aim is to change

:17:06. > :17:10.the colour but I am grateful for that, man, for ever grateful. I

:17:11. > :17:13.didn't expect it to happen. I was a big underdog and I'm still an

:17:14. > :17:17.underdog and I have that mentality and I will carry on. At the Olympics

:17:18. > :17:19.there are so many fights in such a short space of time, how did you

:17:20. > :17:36.keep your energy up because that was blistering? We have

:17:37. > :17:39.prepared for it and I have trained extremely hard for it and I feel

:17:40. > :17:42.just an uplift and the motivation and a sense of energy when I am

:17:43. > :17:44.performing. I told you about the praise from the church and

:17:45. > :17:47.everything and other boxers have other things that help them but that

:17:48. > :17:49.is what always gives me 100%. Floyd Mayweather is here and you got a

:17:50. > :17:52.picture of him yesterday. Did he give you tips? He said I was a great

:17:53. > :17:57.fighter and a future world champion and to come that from him was an

:17:58. > :18:03.absolute compliment and I was happy to hear that from him. All the best

:18:04. > :18:07.with your semifinal. Well done to Joshua Buatsi and if

:18:08. > :18:11.you want to continue to follow the boxing you can do so on the BBC

:18:12. > :18:16.sport Apple the Red Button. BBC One are concentrating on the gold medal

:18:17. > :18:22.match between Andy Murray and Juan Martin Del Potro which is a marathon

:18:23. > :18:26.test for those two players so on BBC Four we will head to the Olympic

:18:27. > :18:35.Stadium and the athletics with Gabby Logan. Thank you so much. The bat on

:18:36. > :18:38.passes tonight once again to the fantastic Olympic Stadium. Last

:18:39. > :18:42.night we witnessed greatness as Mo Farah won his third Olympic gold and

:18:43. > :18:46.Jessica Ennis Hill was just denied by taking silver in the heptathlon

:18:47. > :18:50.and Greg Rutherford displayed all the talent he had pulled a fantastic

:18:51. > :18:55.jump to win a bronze medal in the long jump. Tonight, one of the

:18:56. > :19:01.moments in the games will be played out as the men's 100 metre final

:19:02. > :19:07.will be run at 2:25am. The eyes of the world are on the man aiming at a

:19:08. > :19:11.historic gold medal and his name is Usain Bolt. As sprinting goes, he

:19:12. > :19:22.has proved to be the man with the perfect plan.

:19:23. > :19:35.You look up, 100 metres, stretching before you. Four years of hard

:19:36. > :19:45.graft. Ten seconds to execute the plan. Head down, focus too soon and

:19:46. > :20:00.you are out. Get the mind in dear and the body will follow. They get

:20:01. > :20:07.away first time. Drive. Accelerate. If you don't have power you won't

:20:08. > :20:17.have speed. You are the architect. This is your moment. One chance to

:20:18. > :20:26.be the greatest. To make history when it counts.

:20:27. > :20:31.Michael Johnson they're talking about what makes up the blueprint to

:20:32. > :20:35.become the fastest man in the world. One thing Usain Bolt has shown us

:20:36. > :20:39.all over the last two Olympic cycles is that you can win gold medals and

:20:40. > :20:43.be excellent and also have great fun along the way. I hope you are ready

:20:44. > :20:46.for it because it will be a fantastic evening and all finishes

:20:47. > :20:51.with the fastest man on the planet who are aiming to become the Olympic

:20:52. > :20:59.champion. Usain Bolt is aiming for an Olympic

:21:00. > :21:03.treble treble here in the four by 100 relay and 200 and 100, he is one

:21:04. > :21:07.of the most popular sportsman ever and the world loves him. Tonight the

:21:08. > :21:19.eyes of the world were watching to see if he can deliver more.

:21:20. > :21:27.His main rival for gold is this man, Justin Gatlin. He is Usain Bolt 's

:21:28. > :21:31.archrival and some call him the archvillain because he has served

:21:32. > :21:35.two drug suspensions. He is the fastest man in the world this year

:21:36. > :21:37.and the one who can push Usain Bolt all the way. They will have their

:21:38. > :22:01.work cut out to stop Justin Gatlin. It is going to be a fantastic

:22:02. > :22:05.evening. We also have a 400 metres final and semifinals for the women

:22:06. > :22:09.in that event and the 1500 metres semifinal and high jump qualifying

:22:10. > :22:13.is going on here tonight as well. Plenty going on for you to enjoy

:22:14. > :22:17.throughout the evening, and to kick things off we have a medal ceremony

:22:18. > :22:23.because Greg Rutherford took a bronze last night in what was a

:22:24. > :22:32.thrilling long jump competition and Michael Johnson and Denise Lewis are

:22:33. > :22:35.alongside me. You said this was one of the greatest long jump

:22:36. > :22:43.competitions you have seen in the competition. Yes, Gregor put a good

:22:44. > :22:47.marker out there and it looked as though he could go ahead and win

:22:48. > :22:53.another one but the South Africans and the Americans continued to

:22:54. > :23:01.hammer him and there was fantastic competition. He was really

:23:02. > :23:05.disappointed afterwards, really disappointed to lose his Olympic

:23:06. > :23:11.title, rather than win a bronze medal and perhaps time will give him

:23:12. > :23:17.a different response to that. He has had a night to think about it and he

:23:18. > :23:27.should really be quite pleased with that. He was competitive in the last

:23:28. > :23:31.four years and I hope he can enjoy this, too Olympic medals were great

:23:32. > :23:39.for someone who never envisaged that this moment could come again. Last

:23:40. > :23:43.night one of the first things my family said to me was that Greg

:23:44. > :23:48.Rutherford pulled out a great jump to get a bronze and people see

:23:49. > :23:53.things differently and he will realise that that was pretty special

:23:54. > :23:58.in the heat of competition and hopefully he will reflect on that.

:23:59. > :24:02.He is always going to feel that it wasn't his best performance and you

:24:03. > :24:06.want to deliver your best performance when it counts when you

:24:07. > :24:09.need to that is the mark of a true champion but that is one perspective

:24:10. > :24:14.but I also agree with Denise and looking back on the entire history

:24:15. > :24:20.of Greg, and many people did not expect him to be such a dominant

:24:21. > :24:24.jumper but speaking for myself I never expected him to be so dominant

:24:25. > :24:29.and sofa him there is satisfaction in being able to prove people like

:24:30. > :24:33.me and everyone else is wrong and I can be a world-class long jumper and

:24:34. > :24:37.he has proven that gold and silver medal, not many people can say they

:24:38. > :24:42.have done that in two consecutive Olympics in the long jump.

:24:43. > :24:45.Absolutely right, but there have been challenges throughout the

:24:46. > :24:49.season with men putting damn big markers and not able to put it

:24:50. > :24:53.together on the biggest stage of all. A few of those men were from

:24:54. > :24:57.the United States of America and you warned us in Beijing that their time

:24:58. > :25:03.at be coming and they were getting it together. Absolutely, and Jeff

:25:04. > :25:07.Henderson wasn't one of them, it was some of the other kids who had one

:25:08. > :25:11.of the longest jumps in the world this year but weren't even able to

:25:12. > :25:16.make the US team, because of all the young and new talent that is coming

:25:17. > :25:18.up, including Lawson who finished fourth and Jeff Henderson here who

:25:19. > :26:33.finished first. Jeff Henderson from the United

:26:34. > :26:38.States of America with his gold-medal moment on top of the

:26:39. > :26:43.rostrum, hearing the Star Spangled Banner rang out here at this Olympic

:26:44. > :26:46.stadium. What a great way to start the evening. That is not technically

:26:47. > :26:49.true, Denise Lewis and I were enjoying it when the evening started

:26:50. > :26:53.with Samba. They get the drums out and we have a boogie and then it

:26:54. > :26:56.goes quiet for a while but tonight the crowds have arrived early and we

:26:57. > :27:08.have noticed the Brazilian athletics crowds coming a bit later but it is

:27:09. > :27:11.almost as though the fastest man in the world is appearing tonight. It

:27:12. > :27:13.is almost as though the fastest man is appearing. It is not just the

:27:14. > :27:16.crowds that arrive late, the Brazilians seem to do everything

:27:17. > :27:20.late. I was up until 3am last night trying to get dinner and have a bit

:27:21. > :27:26.of a celebration but, you know, the crowds were lined up outside the

:27:27. > :27:31.stadium as we came in and all for one particular reason. Usain Bolt. I

:27:32. > :27:35.think they are going to be in for a big surprise with the men's 400

:27:36. > :27:39.metres this evening -- 100 metres this evening. I think it will be one

:27:40. > :27:48.of the greatest races of the championship. The 400 metres was one

:27:49. > :27:52.of the standard -- standout races of the Beijing Championships earlier

:27:53. > :27:57.this year. Can we expect that to night? We can all expect to be quite

:27:58. > :28:02.hot this evening because it is the warmest we have been in this

:28:03. > :28:07.stadium. The air temperature is 27 or 28 so perfect for running fast.

:28:08. > :28:11.It is warm. The guys will have to be very careful with their warm up

:28:12. > :28:15.because that is where you are vulnerable to the heat and humidity,

:28:16. > :28:19.when you end the warm up trying to get ready for this and keeping

:28:20. > :28:24.yourself cool and also making sure they get plenty of fluids because

:28:25. > :28:29.that can affect you and when you have two rounds in one day it can be

:28:30. > :28:33.very dangerous so all of those athletes and their coaches and

:28:34. > :28:38.physios will be aware of that. It is hot in here and we hope it will be

:28:39. > :28:41.hot on the track. This is how it will go this evening. In about two

:28:42. > :28:48.minutes the qualification starts for the men's high jump with Robbie

:28:49. > :28:52.Grabarz and others going in that. The women's 400 metres semifinal

:28:53. > :28:56.first up on the track including Allyson Felix and Christine

:28:57. > :29:01.Ohuruogu. It is the only chance for Allyson Felix in this Olympics. Sean

:29:02. > :29:07.Miller will be challenging her all the way. Then there is the women's

:29:08. > :29:11.triple jump final and then we have the semifinals for the men's 100

:29:12. > :29:23.metres including Usain Bolt and James Dasaolu of Great Britain, can

:29:24. > :29:27.we get yourself into the final? At 2am we have the men's 400 metre

:29:28. > :29:33.final with Matthew Hudson-Smith Great Britain who ran an absolute

:29:34. > :29:38.blinder to get himself in there. He was just fantastic and hopefully he

:29:39. > :29:46.can not his PB down a bit as he did in the semifinal. LaShawn Merritt

:29:47. > :29:50.and another are expecting a head-to-head but an interloper could

:29:51. > :29:54.spoil the party. Nobody ever spoiled your party

:29:55. > :30:04.though, Michael! We find the 400 can throw up some anomalies. It can and

:30:05. > :30:12.with the runner in lane eight it will certainly change the race,

:30:13. > :30:15.Wayde van Niekerk. With him being in eight gives an advantage to LaShawn

:30:16. > :30:19.Merritt and to Ronnie James say they will wait to see what he does and he

:30:20. > :30:23.may run a bit different because of those guys being on the inside and

:30:24. > :30:27.he is on the outside and he has no want to work off. We will talk more

:30:28. > :30:31.about that later but you will notice in the white shot that we have a

:30:32. > :30:37.visitor in the studio, Jessica Ennis Hill 's coach.

:30:38. > :30:45.Last night she seemed delighted, pleased with the competition, has

:30:46. > :30:51.she expressed any regret she's no longer Olympic champion, has it her

:30:52. > :30:55.mind, that it is not her title any more? No, not really, when we made

:30:56. > :31:00.the decision she was going to come back after pregnancy, the whole aim

:31:01. > :31:04.was just to get to Rio and try and get on the podium. When you reflect

:31:05. > :31:07.back on that initial target, forget China and winning the World

:31:08. > :31:10.Championship the year before, she's achieved what she wanted to achieve

:31:11. > :31:14.coming back from the birth. It must be weird waking up the morning after

:31:15. > :31:19.all that incredible effort you put in to get their, I imagine the first

:31:20. > :31:23.thing she wants to do is get on a plane, run home and see Reggie, but

:31:24. > :31:28.she's got lots of other commitments going on. How did you feel? I got an

:31:29. > :31:35.hour and a half sleep, she got two hours sleep, I'm a little bit jaded.

:31:36. > :31:39.Was it partying? I wish, I wish, there are commitments after you've

:31:40. > :31:43.won a medal, part of it is anti-doping, part of it is the

:31:44. > :31:49.media. When the stadium is empty and everybody gone, it's hard to get

:31:50. > :31:54.back to the village. We've got shots of you in the stand, we can rarely

:31:55. > :32:00.read anything into your face, you don't tell us very much. What did

:32:01. > :32:05.you feel about her performance? Truthfully, how delightful are you

:32:06. > :32:11.for her? With regard to my face LAUGHTER

:32:12. > :32:17.My deadpan. Part of that is as a coach, I'm thinking, the performance

:32:18. > :32:24.has gone well. Oh dear. You came up for some ridicule for that face. I

:32:25. > :32:29.understand, yes. I'm at work, its business. You come on here, your

:32:30. > :32:33.smiley. People will be like hang on a minute, the two faces of Toni

:32:34. > :32:36.Minichiello. This is work, this is fun, talking about it afterwards,

:32:37. > :32:41.that in the moment when you are trying to give support, the worst

:32:42. > :32:44.thing you want to do as a coach is project is appointment to your

:32:45. > :32:48.athlete. They will read your body language instantly, look at you and

:32:49. > :32:53.think, I know it's bad, now he's telling me it's bad, therefore it

:32:54. > :32:58.must be really bad. You try to keep pretty straight. Toni I'm going to

:32:59. > :33:02.leave you for one second, the women on the track for the first of the

:33:03. > :33:07.women's 400 metres semifinals, Andrew card is your commentator,

:33:08. > :33:11.featuring Christine Ohuruogu. COMMENTATOR: She's been steadily

:33:12. > :33:15.getting better, getting faster times, looking sharper through the

:33:16. > :33:18.season. She needs a great leap forward to make this final. We also

:33:19. > :33:22.know she's a great perform on the big stage. Her fourth Olympic Games

:33:23. > :33:28.going for her third successive final. If ever she needed the

:33:29. > :33:39.special talent of Peking in major championships, it is now. Cheapest

:33:40. > :33:47.Allyson Felix all the way going below 50 seconds. There is

:33:48. > :33:50.MacPherson. Some very quick women inside Ahoure go. Commonwealth

:33:51. > :34:01.champion, just outside the medals at the last two World Championships. --

:34:02. > :34:13.inside Ohurougu. Only semifinalist in Amsterdam last month. A reach for

:34:14. > :34:17.her to make the final. A Nigerian who now represents Bahrain, Adekoya.

:34:18. > :34:25.Competes most often in the hurdles. A new PB in qualifying. The German

:34:26. > :34:34.champion won a personal best in the first round to learn her place here.

:34:35. > :34:40.On the inside, Wyciszkiewicz, former European junior champion. The

:34:41. > :34:44.slowest qualifier. And the frustration of Seren Bundy-Davies

:34:45. > :34:57.not making this race, when it was well within her grasp.

:34:58. > :35:07.The first of three semifinals. The final tomorrow. Just two go through

:35:08. > :35:19.automatically. And the next two faster. It's going to be a stretch

:35:20. > :35:22.for Ohuruogu, but we know she can perform when the pressure is on. And

:35:23. > :35:44.the need is greatest. First track event of the evening

:35:45. > :35:49.here in the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, promises to be a

:35:50. > :35:53.wonderful evening. Christine Ohuruogu in lane seven in the white

:35:54. > :36:00.top starts off. How will she pays this? Adekoya from Bahrain in rain

:36:01. > :36:04.three. Stephenie Ann McPherson in the gold of Jamaica. Then Phyllis

:36:05. > :36:09.Francis. Ohuruogu outside, we know she likes to finish quickly but

:36:10. > :36:15.can't leave herself too much to do. A good run already from Adekoya.

:36:16. > :36:19.Phyllis Francis leaving herself with a little bit to do. Adekoya out in

:36:20. > :36:24.front, has she gone too early, given too much? Stephenie Ann McPherson

:36:25. > :36:31.coming back now. Ohuruogu with too much to do. Zemlyak is there.

:36:32. > :36:37.Stephenie Ann McPherson gets second and Zemlyak gets third. And Adekoya

:36:38. > :36:40.has run out of things down in fourth. Two go through

:36:41. > :36:44.automatically. Christine Ohuruogu not going through to the final here.

:36:45. > :36:49.A great run in the Olympic Games will come to an end. It was too much

:36:50. > :36:53.for her. A season that has not gone tremendously well. It was too much

:36:54. > :36:58.to ask. And too fast from the others. Now a smile and

:36:59. > :37:02.congratulations for those who do go through. Phyllis Francis and

:37:03. > :37:09.Stephenie Ann McPherson make it through to the final. We knew, she's

:37:10. > :37:20.been getting closer, getting closer, but again just a stretch too far.

:37:21. > :37:26.How did you see this, Michael? Well, this was probably one of the easier

:37:27. > :37:32.semifinals on paper. But it was tough as well. How it unfolded.

:37:33. > :37:37.Phyllis Francis who came into this the fastest in the fields left a lot

:37:38. > :37:45.of work to be done. At the end of this semifinal. Was able to get

:37:46. > :37:48.through, ultimately, and Stephenie Ann McPherson is one of the best

:37:49. > :37:52.athletes in this field. It will be interesting how this rates up for

:37:53. > :37:56.the final. Phyllis Francis had to run really hard. You don't want to

:37:57. > :38:01.leave so much to the end of the race. In a semifinal you want to get

:38:02. > :38:06.out hard, then relax through the rest of the race. She had to really

:38:07. > :38:10.work here. Stephenie Ann McPherson really working around that top bend.

:38:11. > :38:15.This was going to be tough. It'll take a lot out of both of them as

:38:16. > :38:19.they go into the final. The next heats will have seen that. They will

:38:20. > :38:22.know they may be able to take advantage. Let's look at Christine

:38:23. > :38:28.Ohuruogu. It was always going to be tough. She can only run even pays

:38:29. > :38:33.all the way round, not a speed 400 metre runner. We would expect she's

:38:34. > :38:36.going to be able to continue this pace. Where you see the difference

:38:37. > :38:41.is, Phyllis France's starting to come up on Christine Ohuruogu's

:38:42. > :38:46.shoulder. You'll never see Christine able to make that move she normally

:38:47. > :38:51.does with the hundred metres and kick into another gear and use the

:38:52. > :38:55.strength she has to be able to slow down the fatigue. That never

:38:56. > :39:00.happens. This is what you normally see, Christine able to make a move,

:39:01. > :39:04.switch gears. She is unable to do that. This is the same pace, same

:39:05. > :39:08.exact effort we saw in the first 200 metres of the race. It is not

:39:09. > :39:13.characteristic of Christine. Obviously this was a little bit too

:39:14. > :39:17.quick for her to be able to actually get into the semifinal. Which I'm

:39:18. > :39:20.sure she would have wanted to do at this point. Nothing else you can do,

:39:21. > :39:26.you want to continue to relax at this point, what she's doing. The

:39:27. > :39:29.power isn't there, the speed isn't there, the speed and endurance we

:39:30. > :39:34.normally see her able to hold whatever is BG has. She's not able

:39:35. > :39:38.to bring it this time. Now a little bit of fatigue starting to setting

:39:39. > :39:52.them and realisation she's probably not through to the final. -- -- we

:39:53. > :40:00.normally see her able to hold whatever it is she has. I've been

:40:01. > :40:04.stuck in the wrong gear all season. I don't want to say I'm not

:40:05. > :40:09.disappointed because I am, but I'm happy I made it this far, I think.

:40:10. > :40:15.These girls are running, they are fit, they are quick. I wasn't able

:40:16. > :40:19.to compete with them today. Tell me about the kind of season youth had.

:40:20. > :40:23.I know you haven't things might not have gone according to plan but you

:40:24. > :40:28.never make excuses, you are not one for that. It is what it is, it's my

:40:29. > :40:34.job, it's what we do everyday. You can expect things don't always go to

:40:35. > :40:40.plan, it's natural, we're human. So it was a tough ask, it really was. I

:40:41. > :40:51.haven't broken 51, which is very unusual. But... It's OK. I'm OK. I'm

:40:52. > :40:59.OK. I'm one of the old girls here. I've been to four Olympics. I've

:41:00. > :41:06.enjoyed some great moments here. Disappointed but... I'll try not to

:41:07. > :41:10.lose too much sleep over it. Can I ask you what you think the future

:41:11. > :41:19.holds for you? Honestly, I think it's like... LAUGHTER

:41:20. > :41:23.One minute to midnight and this vintage car's going to turn into a

:41:24. > :41:29.pumpkin. We're coming towards the end, it's becoming a long slog

:41:30. > :41:35.training. I'm old! You are a great champion, thank you for talking to

:41:36. > :41:38.us. Thank you very much. That was nearly a retirement announcement,

:41:39. > :41:42.wasn't it. We'll hopefully hear more from Christine on that at some

:41:43. > :41:47.point. Someone on the other end of the ticking clock, Emily Diamond.

:41:48. > :41:52.The first Olympic semifinal she did well to get through given she

:41:53. > :41:59.suffered a pretty bad bout of food poisoning before her heat. Finds

:42:00. > :42:04.herself in lane one. The 25-year-old will have to go quicker than her

:42:05. > :42:12.personal best cheese already set, 51.2 three. We've got Naser comedy

:42:13. > :42:16.very good 18-year-old from Bahrain. Morgan Mitchell of Australia,

:42:17. > :42:28.Natasha Hastings, USA, shriek Jackson of Jamaica, Caroline Muir of

:42:29. > :42:36.Canada and Floria Guei of France. Emily Diamond in lane one. Just has

:42:37. > :42:40.to go out as hard as she can. See what she can do. Natasha Hastings

:42:41. > :42:46.started very quickly as ever. A big danger in lane three could be Naser

:42:47. > :42:51.of Bahrain, who's been getting better all the time, the 18-year-old

:42:52. > :42:55.is offered at the moment as the more experienced athlete Hastings and

:42:56. > :42:59.Jackson are going well. Naser in the red starting to close up in lane

:43:00. > :43:03.three, Emily Diamond going well at this point but a lot of ground to

:43:04. > :43:08.make up. Natasha Hastings pushing on, the top two will qualify by

:43:09. > :43:14.rights here. Naser starting to run down, Shericka Jackson rallying a

:43:15. > :43:17.little bit. It's going to be the two experienced athlete Natasha

:43:18. > :43:23.Hastings, Shericka Jackson. Jackson just gets the win, Naser has to

:43:24. > :43:29.settle for third. 49.80 four. That is a personal best by over one tenth

:43:30. > :43:34.of a second for the Jamaican. She has just run... Look at her faced.

:43:35. > :43:38.She's just run a time you might not have expected in the semi, it was

:43:39. > :43:42.almost required. She didn't have to run quite that hard to qualify but

:43:43. > :43:48.she wanted to win it and win it she did. Emily Diamond... Well... I said

:43:49. > :43:52.she did great to get into the semifinal, always going to be

:43:53. > :43:56.difficult in lane one. This is the 200 metre mark Hastings starts

:43:57. > :44:02.quickly as ever. Jackson certainly came on strong. Two of them under 50

:44:03. > :44:09.seconds. Natasha Hastings always takes it out hard, Shericka Jackson

:44:10. > :44:13.ran this race perfectly. Natasha his teams coming off the bench, she

:44:14. > :44:17.always takes it out hard and wants to hold on, put pressure on the rest

:44:18. > :44:21.of the athletes. She did put pressure on the rest of the field.

:44:22. > :44:27.We saw Shericka Jackson respond beautifully. Nice, long stride,

:44:28. > :44:31.perfect form coming into the end of this 400 metres. For a personal

:44:32. > :44:34.best. That is how you want to run it. This was a tough semifinal as

:44:35. > :44:39.well. The time on this one was very quick. Shericka Jackson and Natasha

:44:40. > :44:43.Hastings will feel very good about their chances going into that final.

:44:44. > :44:48.Let's take a look at Emily Diamond, it was always going to be tough. I'd

:44:49. > :44:53.like to see her get to race pace quicker. Don't push for the entire

:44:54. > :44:57.bend around that 100 metres. Now she is unable to relax because she

:44:58. > :45:01.didn't get up to speed as quickly as possible because of the benefit of

:45:02. > :45:06.being in lane one, the rest of the field not concerned about the Polish

:45:07. > :45:09.athlete on the outside. She sees Hastings and Jackson, those guys are

:45:10. > :45:15.way up there. She's not able to relax. Having to continue to work

:45:16. > :45:18.the bend. We're going to see what every 400 metre runner dreads.

:45:19. > :45:23.Fatigue sets in, unable to do anything about it. Do exactly what

:45:24. > :45:27.she's doing at this point, holding form, nice form for the last 100

:45:28. > :45:32.metres. Unfortunately, the issue here is the lack of an ability to

:45:33. > :45:36.this speed and be able to use that power that allows you to power down

:45:37. > :45:39.the home stretch and pick off a few of those people who may be ahead of

:45:40. > :45:50.you. Unfortunately for MLA, not the

:45:51. > :45:52.performance she was looking for, a little bit off her personal best and

:45:53. > :46:00.I am sure she would have wanted to deliver the best performance when it

:46:01. > :46:07.counted here in the semifinal. Michael Johnson was talking over the

:46:08. > :46:11.replay over. You have been hacked poorly and had food poisoning, how

:46:12. > :46:17.would you assess the Olympics for you? Overall I'm really happy. I

:46:18. > :46:21.came in to try and make the semifinal and I did that but I

:46:22. > :46:27.haven't been my best so I am really pleased. It would have been nice to

:46:28. > :46:33.have got a personal best here today but four From Lane one in my first

:46:34. > :46:38.Olympic semifinal, today was amazing, and having the time of my

:46:39. > :46:43.life! How will you improve and learn on this experience? It's given me a

:46:44. > :46:47.lot of confidence and I now look at the start list and I know my aim is

:46:48. > :46:51.not to come last and I can compete with these girls and it has given me

:46:52. > :46:54.a lot of confidence and I can take that into next year now and look

:46:55. > :47:04.forward to World Championships in London. All the best going forward.

:47:05. > :47:10.Thank you, Emily. In lane one, running 51.4 nine. A

:47:11. > :47:14.couple of tents outside her personal best. After everything that happened

:47:15. > :47:21.to her she will have learnt a lot in these Olympic Games. I am sorry the

:47:22. > :47:25.personal bests are not coming up on these graphics. Jackson took a tenth

:47:26. > :47:29.off her personal best and Hastings goes through as well and Salwa Eid

:47:30. > :47:32.Naser had exactly the same time as the fastest loser spot from the

:47:33. > :47:38.first semi so she will have to wait and see.

:47:39. > :47:42.One more to come. Just to wrap up the heat one results. Christine

:47:43. > :47:47.Ohuruogu was not quick enough to see her through. Phyllis Francis and

:47:48. > :47:53.Stefanie and MacPherson went through but they are slower than the second

:47:54. > :48:01.semifinal. Now in the final semifinal share is Christine Day.

:48:02. > :48:06.There is surely Miller, a silver behind Felix in Beijing in the World

:48:07. > :48:09.Championships. A bit like the men's semifinal, we got a sneak preview

:48:10. > :48:16.there of two medal challenge is going head-to-head. These are the

:48:17. > :48:20.two outstanding prospects for goals, Allyson Felix and surely Miller.

:48:21. > :48:26.Four Olympic golds for Allyson Felix and this is the only title she is

:48:27. > :48:32.claimed, she is the 200 metre champion but no defence of that

:48:33. > :48:41.title here. Annelise Ruby is from camera and she went very well in the

:48:42. > :48:54.first round. She goes in lane two. Next of the Polish champion, she had

:48:55. > :48:58.a new personal best this season. Libania Grenot is the European

:48:59. > :49:03.champion and she goes in-line six. Patience Georges in lane seven, a

:49:04. > :49:08.Nigerian champion. A full look at the starting list, and on the

:49:09. > :49:12.outside Kabange Mupopo from the Zambia who won the African title

:49:13. > :49:22.again this year. A bit disappointing in qualifying, not quite as sharp as

:49:23. > :49:26.she was last season. Shaunae Miller is down to race in the 200 and

:49:27. > :49:32.starts tomorrow and she was reluctant to do so. It is still not

:49:33. > :49:36.certain that she will. Analyst -- Allyson Felix did not qualify at the

:49:37. > :49:41.USA trials so she will be doing the double but these are great sprinters

:49:42. > :49:48.and their styles are smooth and they are very quick. Two to go through

:49:49. > :49:52.here and Shaunae Miller and Felix are the ones to beat. Away they go

:49:53. > :49:55.in the third and last semifinal of the women's 400 metres and Allyson

:49:56. > :50:01.Felix immediately working off Shaunae Miller who went out quickly

:50:02. > :50:06.on Christine Day. The tall figure of Shaunae Miller alongside Christine

:50:07. > :50:11.Day. Allyson Felix alongside her. A quick start from Alex and Felix and

:50:12. > :50:15.Felix and Miller are looking good but on the outside the Italian has

:50:16. > :50:19.gone out quickly. She knows she has to to challenge the big two here

:50:20. > :50:25.because only to go through automatically. There are two fastest

:50:26. > :50:31.loser places as well. Felix brings them into the home straight and

:50:32. > :50:35.Shaunae Miller gets her long legs moving. The top two are Allyson

:50:36. > :50:43.Felix and Shaunae Miller and they separate themselves from the rest.

:50:44. > :50:50.Felix goes across the line at 49.60 eight. These are surely the two to

:50:51. > :51:02.beat in the final tomorrow. Allyson Felix just got the better of Shaunae

:51:03. > :51:05.Miller but it was those two as we expected Libania Grenot get a good

:51:06. > :51:08.race for a long time and we will look for her time at Felix Miller

:51:09. > :51:14.are safely through. Michael. This was surprising with

:51:15. > :51:18.Allyson Felix taking it out quick on the inside of Shaunae Miller.

:51:19. > :51:21.Unfortunately we have these two matched up in the semifinal and we

:51:22. > :51:25.will see them again as the heavy favourites for the gold medal in the

:51:26. > :51:30.final by Allyson Felix took it out really quick and Shaunae Miller run

:51:31. > :51:33.the more relaxed of the two races of the two athletes here. Shaunae

:51:34. > :51:41.Miller was just able to draft off of Allyson Felix and really, I'm just

:51:42. > :51:45.trying to see how fatigued Allyson Felix might be from really blazing

:51:46. > :51:49.at 200 metres at the very beginning, but it doesn't look as though she is

:51:50. > :51:52.very bad teeth at all. It was a quick start, almost like a 200

:51:53. > :51:58.metres but Shaunae Miller out quick as well but the differences that

:51:59. > :52:02.Shaunae Miller is now into the relaxation and Alison Miller

:52:03. > :52:07.continues to push. Allyson Felix. Normally you push for 60 or 70 or

:52:08. > :52:12.maybe 80 metres at most. Relaxation from both of them at this point and

:52:13. > :52:16.you want to start working this bend. Shaunae Miller works the bend a bit

:52:17. > :52:21.more and Allyson Felix allows her to come back into it a little bit here.

:52:22. > :52:25.It is very much a bit of a chess match. What you want to see is who

:52:26. > :52:27.is going to want to win this race. It doesn't really matter who wants

:52:28. > :52:46.to win the race, winning the race does not

:52:47. > :52:49.guarantee you an inside lane, but I think Allyson Felix decided she was

:52:50. > :52:51.going to run it like a final until she got to the finish line and

:52:52. > :52:54.Shaunae Miller decided to run the race a bit different and just take

:52:55. > :52:56.whatever Allyson Felix throughout her and she would deal with it as

:52:57. > :52:59.the race unfolded. You might think it is at one-upmanship to get the

:53:00. > :53:02.win in the semifinal but it does matter because it gives you a better

:53:03. > :53:04.lane in the final. Shaunae Miller finished second, just behind Natasha

:53:05. > :53:07.Hastings in the previous heat so she will be in lane seven or eight in

:53:08. > :53:16.the final. Allyson Felix gets one of the better lines. -- lanes. These

:53:17. > :53:20.are the qualifiers going through and you see that Libania Grenot also

:53:21. > :53:23.went through, the European champion safely through. These are the women

:53:24. > :53:43.who will contest the final of the 400 metres tomorrow night.

:53:44. > :53:50.In about six minutes time the men's 100 metres semifinals will take

:53:51. > :53:56.place inside the stadium with Usain Bolt going in the second of three

:53:57. > :54:01.semifinals and he has been here and done it before. He looks as relaxed

:54:02. > :54:05.as you would expect, a man with his experience would be. This would be

:54:06. > :54:10.the main protagonist, potentially Justin Gatlin. At Beijing the world

:54:11. > :54:13.was looking to see if good would conquer evil, it was almost of

:54:14. > :54:18.pantomime proportions, it was built up. Not so much this time, it

:54:19. > :54:22.doesn't feel quite as though it has that theatrical edge to it. Is Bolt

:54:23. > :54:28.in better shape and people are less worried? Yes, the situation is

:54:29. > :54:31.different this time than it was last time and last year Justin Gatlin was

:54:32. > :54:35.running the fastest times he has ever run in his career. He is not

:54:36. > :54:39.running as fast this year. Also last year Usain Bolt had been injured

:54:40. > :54:44.throughout the whole preparation for the season and he kept having starts

:54:45. > :54:47.and stops to his training so he wasn't really able to training get

:54:48. > :54:51.himself ready for the championship. That even to the two athletes out

:54:52. > :54:55.and made it much more even with Usain Bolt not running as well but

:54:56. > :54:59.Justin Gatlin running fantastic but this year the exact opposite

:55:00. > :55:04.happened and Gatlin is not running as well and Usain Bolt did not have

:55:05. > :55:08.as many injuries. His decision not to run in the final was more

:55:09. > :55:13.precautionary than anything else and he was able to train throughout the

:55:14. > :55:17.entire winter and fall without any starts and stops so at this point he

:55:18. > :55:23.is in a better position, Usain Bolt, at this point than he was at this

:55:24. > :55:27.point last year, so the issue here is there is all this talk of rivalry

:55:28. > :55:34.between Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin but it is hard to call it a true

:55:35. > :55:37.rivalry when I believe it is 7-1 to Usain Bolt. The issue is the debt

:55:38. > :55:42.Justin Gatlin is the only person who has ever been able to get close to

:55:43. > :55:49.even challenge Usain Bolt and then of course we in the media have built

:55:50. > :55:52.this narrative, and we have to take responsibility for building this

:55:53. > :55:59.narrative of good versus evil and allowing it to be perpetuated.

:56:00. > :56:04.I think that isn't so prolific this season. I think you're right. There

:56:05. > :56:08.is a genuine rivalry of Jamaica and USA, two dominant sprinting nations

:56:09. > :56:14.who really want to hold the title. I do think there is an air of he

:56:15. > :56:20.really feels, and we feel, he is in such imperious form this year that

:56:21. > :56:24.stars Justin Gatlin really stand a chance? We are feeling more

:56:25. > :56:32.comfortable and confident about this match and this head-to-head than we

:56:33. > :56:36.were last year. The stadium is absolutely packed, and people have

:56:37. > :56:40.brought their own ceramic effigies of the great band. I'm not sure how

:56:41. > :56:46.that got through security. He looks about 20 years older that, he might

:56:47. > :56:51.not want to take that home! If he goes around a dozen victory lap

:56:52. > :56:56.tonight I don't think he will take that from the stands! I be here

:56:57. > :57:02.tonight? Is this an occasionally want to be part of? He is such a

:57:03. > :57:05.vibrant personality. A lot of people here come to see him and they are

:57:06. > :57:09.truly excited by seeing him and people enjoy it, there aren't many

:57:10. > :57:16.people within athletics who truly create that kind of charm and

:57:17. > :57:19.interest and just sheer joy. Your lass does. Jessica Ennis-Hill has

:57:20. > :57:25.given us so much joy over last few years. She was quite hesitant and

:57:26. > :57:30.cagey to commit to her long-term future last night, understandably in

:57:31. > :57:35.the heat of the moment. I would say 60/40 she is thinking she would hang

:57:36. > :57:41.up her spikes. Was that a conversation? She said, stop it,

:57:42. > :57:44.domain me cry and Phil kept on, as he does! And eventually the tears

:57:45. > :57:47.did come but she seems to have a moment where she needs time to think

:57:48. > :57:53.about it, is it a conversation you have had ahead of Rio? We are always

:57:54. > :57:58.going to have a moment when we have to make a decision. There is London

:57:59. > :58:02.next year but the Olympic Games is the end of a four-year cycle where

:58:03. > :58:06.you want to make decisions. We have always said that you want to judge

:58:07. > :58:10.it after the moment and find out what medal you have one. If she

:58:11. > :58:14.finished fifth or sixth, what kind of decision you make if you have won

:58:15. > :58:18.it and what kind of decision you make? Athletes seldom get to choose

:58:19. > :58:24.when they retire, often it is forced upon them through injury or use the

:58:25. > :58:31.athletes stay in the sport too long. OK, the athletes are out and getting

:58:32. > :58:37.ready for the first of the 100 semifinals and we have Nickel

:58:38. > :58:46.Ashmeade in this one and Marvin Bracy. There is also Jimmy Vicaut.

:58:47. > :58:49.This is all about the fastest man in the world and ends at two point --

:58:50. > :58:59.to 20 5am with the final. The first semifinal are already out

:59:00. > :59:04.there and they tend to get the first ones out a little bit early so they

:59:05. > :59:10.have a few more moments to soak up the atmosphere and let the nerves

:59:11. > :59:15.just to do their work. Who will stand up to the test here. This is a

:59:16. > :59:27.really difficult semifinal to call here. There are no real standouts.

:59:28. > :59:29.We will go through them one by one. This is a very fast starter. He is

:59:30. > :59:39.from Iran. Jimmy Vicaut is co-holder of the

:59:40. > :59:47.hundred metres record this year, 9.80 six. Nickel Ashmeade, 26 years

:59:48. > :59:54.old, also under ten seconds this year, as are many men in this field,

:59:55. > :00:05.including Simbine, the world record-holder at this 100 metres

:00:06. > :00:09.distance, 9.89 this year. Xie Zhenye, he is a very good young

:00:10. > :00:15.Chinese athlete, he knows Taftian well, the two raced each other last

:00:16. > :00:31.year at the Asian championships. He could be a danger here, Meite. And a

:00:32. > :00:44.real test here from Marvin Bracy. Good start, but Bracey is up against

:00:45. > :00:53.Jacques Harvey running for Turkey. With the exception of Xie Zhenye and

:00:54. > :00:57.Taftian, the two Asian sprinters, one from China, one from Iran,

:00:58. > :01:03.everybody else here has run under ten seconds, and this is the stage,

:01:04. > :01:15.the semifinal stage, where we start to see the time is being run. Top

:01:16. > :01:18.two and three fastest losers, three semifinals as usual. Usain Bolt up

:01:19. > :01:28.next, Gatling in the third. It is warm and still, perfect

:01:29. > :01:43.sprinting conditions. A very even start, Nickel Ashmeade

:01:44. > :01:46.got out well, so does Jimmy Vicaut. Finishing very quickly, Simbine in

:01:47. > :01:53.the middle, but Jimmy Vicaut hangs on for the win, 9.95, that is

:01:54. > :01:57.better. He only came through as a fastest loser, very tight for

:01:58. > :02:03.second, I am not going to call that. It was very close on the line,

:02:04. > :02:10.Ashmeade is looking anxiously, and Meite also, Jimmy Vicaut was very

:02:11. > :02:14.good in the first 30 metres, he stayed strong, didn't look good at

:02:15. > :02:18.all in the heats yesterday, much better here. He is in the final. He

:02:19. > :02:24.certainly switched himself on for this race. Guaranteed to get into

:02:25. > :02:28.those top two positions, and this is one where he could really shine,

:02:29. > :02:39.because it was an field, as you mentioned earlier on. Jimmy Vicaut

:02:40. > :02:42.did what was necessary. He just tapped in on him, he is a very

:02:43. > :02:47.strong finisher, good frequency on the floor, held his form right the

:02:48. > :02:52.way through to the line, and they stopped the clock at 9.95, a great

:02:53. > :03:06.performance, he is through to the final.

:03:07. > :03:23.Usain Bolt out for the second of these semifinals. She ginned Ujah is

:03:24. > :03:27.going in this one as well. You want to be where the action is, where

:03:28. > :03:31.these guys are going fast, you hope that you can hang on and they will

:03:32. > :03:36.put you through it, and Usain Bolt is certainly a fast guy, so what CJ

:03:37. > :03:42.will look for is hoping he can get a quick start out of the blocks than

:03:43. > :03:48.Bolt, Bolt will go past him in the first 30 metres, but he needs to

:03:49. > :03:53.make sure he runs his own race. He wants to stay as close to Bolt as

:03:54. > :03:57.possible. You mentioned conditions earlier on, Denise, it is very warm

:03:58. > :04:02.in here tonight, these guys have another Arab half or so. They want

:04:03. > :04:07.to get themselves into the physical and mental state to face a final.

:04:08. > :04:13.What do you do physically so that you don't get exhausted by the heat?

:04:14. > :04:18.There are pluses for it being this warm, you don't have to warm up as

:04:19. > :04:22.intensely, you do a few more drills. But that stage when time is short,

:04:23. > :04:29.it really is about staying relaxed in the mind, visualising your lane,

:04:30. > :04:35.what you are doing, and just staying in the moment, and not overcooking

:04:36. > :04:40.it. I think this is a tough draw for CJ, but he has a championship

:04:41. > :04:44.experience now. The World Championships really helped him last

:04:45. > :04:49.year, and he is going to use that. You can see he is growing

:04:50. > :04:55.immaturity. Like Michael said, having the fast guys in this

:04:56. > :04:59.semi-would have put him through. And one of these old guys, Kim Collins,

:05:00. > :05:04.he puts us all to shame, the semifinals of the 100 metres. Kim

:05:05. > :05:09.has kept himself in great shape over the years, and he is still enjoying

:05:10. > :05:24.it, still having fun, and he is in the great position, he knows, he is

:05:25. > :05:29.been running well. He ended up falling out with his Olympic

:05:30. > :05:33.organisation, and so he probably thought at that point maybe that was

:05:34. > :05:37.the last time he would have a shot at this, but here he is with a

:05:38. > :05:40.chance to go through to a final, lining up alongside the likes of

:05:41. > :05:45.Usain Bolt. That go down to Steve Cram.

:05:46. > :05:49.Andrew will be calling this race, but I will try to tidy this up for

:05:50. > :06:03.you, because it was very tight on the line. It was Meite who came

:06:04. > :06:09.through to beat Simbine, so it looks like you might need to run under ten

:06:10. > :06:15.seconds to be a fastest loser. Just a few months old when this man ran

:06:16. > :06:20.in the Olympics first. To make the semifinals at 40 years old is

:06:21. > :06:23.astonishing. He did run 9.93 earlier in Germany, the wind just inside the

:06:24. > :06:28.legal limit, he hasn't come close to that again. Andrew Fisher, the

:06:29. > :06:33.Jamaican, quite honest about transferring to Bahrain. He said it

:06:34. > :06:38.was hard to fulfil his ambition of running up the highest level. The --

:06:39. > :06:49.android and here is the shout for perhaps

:06:50. > :06:56.the greatest sprinter there has ever been. He might never match those

:06:57. > :07:03.astonishing times of 2008 and 2009, but he is still the man to beat, the

:07:04. > :07:09.man they all come to see. CJ Ujah said he would be able to relax a bit

:07:10. > :07:20.after reaching the semifinal. And here he stands alongside Usain Bolt.

:07:21. > :07:29.And re-enter Yamagata, outside, the man who shared bronze with de

:07:30. > :07:39.Grasse, Trayvon Bromell. And nothing is guaranteed in sport,

:07:40. > :07:43.but everybody in here expect Usain Bolt to make the final. They have

:07:44. > :07:49.come really to see a final with him in it, but things can go wrong. He

:07:50. > :07:51.could have a false start. And what does CJ Ujah do, how does he feel in

:07:52. > :08:11.this moment? The second semifinal of the men's

:08:12. > :08:22.100 metres, two to go through automatically.

:08:23. > :08:35.Oh, it is a false start, and Andrew Fisher is gone. Even with that ten

:08:36. > :08:40.metres start, Bolts might have hunted him down, but he knows, we

:08:41. > :08:46.know. I think this is clear for anyone to see. Fischer well before

:08:47. > :08:52.the gun, and as you mentioned, Andrew, he wants to fulfil his

:08:53. > :09:04.ambition. And be great. But unfortunately, he will be out of

:09:05. > :09:08.this race, I believe. He went before the alphabet was invented, he was

:09:09. > :09:16.halfway up the track. A rueful smile. That is about the first. We

:09:17. > :09:25.have had, I can't remember any others in this meeting. Might have

:09:26. > :09:27.been one, racking my brains. Anyway, Usain Bolt has seen it all before.

:09:28. > :09:35.He has done it before. When he asks a stadium to fall

:09:36. > :10:05.silent, they do. Cleanly away this time, and Usain

:10:06. > :10:22.Bolt is already beginning to move away from Sir J Green. 9.84! 9.84,

:10:23. > :10:26.and an easy 9.84 from Usain Bolt. I think it is going to be very quick

:10:27. > :10:32.in the final, and Usain Bolt will be there. What makes you think it will

:10:33. > :10:36.be quick Andrew? ! That was a majestic performance from Usain

:10:37. > :10:39.Bolt. We knew he was going to have to work hard for at least 30 or 40

:10:40. > :10:46.metres because of the talent in this field alongside him could reduce

:10:47. > :10:50.that themselves, so he certainly had to get out well and work hard for

:10:51. > :10:58.that first 30 or 40 metres, but once he unleashes that massive stride,

:10:59. > :11:02.that is not only long, it is fast, then he just pulls the gap so

:11:03. > :11:07.easily, and once that happens, you can see he moves away, and he starts

:11:08. > :11:11.to look around. He will shut down and look at the clock, 9.86, I think

:11:12. > :11:17.we can look forward to something really sensational. He will go back

:11:18. > :11:21.into the warm room, have a quick chat with his coach, Glen Mills,

:11:22. > :11:25.they will discuss what they think he needs to improve on. I think Glenn

:11:26. > :11:30.will just tell him to focus, keep his eyes forward and go for a very

:11:31. > :11:32.quick time, because he is in great shape and he has an opportunity

:11:33. > :11:43.here, conditions are virtually perfect. A very good run by CJ Ujah,

:11:44. > :11:47.as well. In terms of semifinals, that is about as quick as years ever

:11:48. > :11:57.run in the semifinal in major championships. In Beijing in 2008,

:11:58. > :12:02.he ran 9.85, and Andre de Grasse has run a personal best. Trying to look

:12:03. > :12:07.as if he's incredibly relaxed, but that is what they do. And we demand

:12:08. > :12:16.great things from him in the final. But that was very quick indeed. He

:12:17. > :12:23.and de Grasse go through. STUDIO: That is it the athletics on

:12:24. > :12:28.BBC Four. The third semifinal will be on BBC One in a few moments, so

:12:29. > :12:32.on over there. Here we will show you a keyboard in to an game from

:12:33. > :12:40.tonight we Kirsty Gilmour needed to win her final group match against

:12:41. > :12:41.Linde is Ujah area. We are joining the match at the start of the

:12:42. > :13:48.deciding game. COMMENTATOR: Trying to give the

:13:49. > :14:09.block a little bit of air, tight to the net.

:14:10. > :14:26.Good net shot. There is a challenge here. It was called out. Zetchiri

:14:27. > :14:30.with her first challenge of the match, in fact it is the first

:14:31. > :14:37.challenge from either player. The instant review system, high-speed

:14:38. > :14:44.cameras, looking straight down the lines. And then the third match

:14:45. > :14:49.official will look very closely, frame by frame. That is out, out by

:14:50. > :15:18.a whisker. Good call, line judge. Overdone it. It has gone wide.

:15:19. > :15:22.Players have to think about the drift. They have both been guilty,

:15:23. > :15:57.thinking about the sideways drift. Well, she commanded the rally

:15:58. > :16:01.throughout, dictated the pace, Kirsty Gilmour, pushed her opponent

:16:02. > :16:06.of the back, brought to the diagonal, pushed back again.

:16:07. > :16:27.Wonderful, wonderful rally by the British number one.

:16:28. > :16:35.There is the variation. I was talking about the fact that Kirsty

:16:36. > :16:43.Gilmour had been playing an awful lot of crosscourt drop shots from

:16:44. > :16:45.that round, the head position. There, playing it straight, that is

:16:46. > :17:57.a lovely variation. Linda Zetchiri is complaining that

:17:58. > :17:58.her opponent is wasting time. She is a feisty character, is Linda

:17:59. > :18:13.Zetchiri. That is the perfect response from

:18:14. > :18:18.Kirsty Gilmour and I think from the point of view of Linda Zetchiri, I

:18:19. > :18:22.have watched getting uptight on court for various different reasons

:18:23. > :18:29.and I think she should focus and channel her anger and aggression

:18:30. > :18:34.into the rallies rather than arguing with umpires.

:18:35. > :18:46.Mind you, some players actually play better after a bit of an argument!

:18:47. > :18:56.John McEnroe, of course, was the perfect example. It never have

:18:57. > :19:04.firstly affected him. Oh my goodness me! What a net exchange. Brilliant!

:19:05. > :19:13.Brilliant control from Linda Zetchiri! The net exchange is there

:19:14. > :19:34.between the two players, well, you will not see much better than that.

:19:35. > :19:42.Not getting behind the shuttle as she did in the opening game, Kirsty

:19:43. > :19:48.Gilmour. Took that about shoulder height.

:19:49. > :20:07.Brilliant. And it is all levels. One game all, seven all. Kirsty Gilmour

:20:08. > :20:10.wanted to change the shuttle, Linda Zetchiri said no, the umpire

:20:11. > :20:13.therefore had to make the decision and the umpire agreed with the

:20:14. > :20:36.player from Bulgaria. Psychologically, I think it is very

:20:37. > :20:51.important to have the advantage that the change of ends in this decider.

:20:52. > :21:01.She actually played that with a backhand grip, backhand action, from

:21:02. > :21:13.her forehand side, that is extraordinary.

:21:14. > :21:20.Got away with it! That is a nervous looking shot to me from Kirsty

:21:21. > :21:59.Gilmour. Oh yes. The next shot from Linda

:22:00. > :22:03.Zetchiri was so tight that even though Kirsty Gilmour was ready and

:22:04. > :22:08.wanting to pounce, she could not really hit in a steep enough

:22:09. > :22:43.response there. Giving her opponent time.

:22:44. > :22:52.What a smash. Once again, Kirsty Gilmour from that base position in

:22:53. > :22:56.the centre of the court, the power of the legs just to leap into the

:22:57. > :23:01.air and play what we call the round the head smash straight down the

:23:02. > :23:05.line, really set up the rally. This will decide who has the advantage at

:23:06. > :23:20.the change of ends in this deciding game. And the advantage is with the

:23:21. > :23:23.left-handed player from Bulgaria. Linda Zetchiri. She picks up her

:23:24. > :23:36.bag, marchers to the other side of the court.

:23:37. > :23:58.The net is yours, we know we have to keep that controlled attack. Then we

:23:59. > :24:13.go flat and then we get countered. We get power on the attack. You will

:24:14. > :24:18.feel stronger for longer. Same pace. Use the variety. Especially the

:24:19. > :24:27.service. Now, this is what we trained for. That is all we want.

:24:28. > :24:34.Once again, very good coaching from Andy would, telling Linda Zetchiri

:24:35. > :24:39.she is winning the battle at the net now and urging her to go forward, go

:24:40. > :24:43.for angle, rather than power on the attacking play and he likes her

:24:44. > :25:10.variety, especially her serve. Well, from a British perspective, I

:25:11. > :25:14.think Kirsty Gilmour needs to put in a few punch clears and get her

:25:15. > :25:19.opponent to the back of the court before trying to go for winners like

:25:20. > :25:26.that. Not getting her opponent out of position before she tries to win

:25:27. > :25:31.the rally. Especially in women's singles, it is so important, get

:25:32. > :25:41.your opponent back and get them out of position before you start trying

:25:42. > :25:54.to go for winners. Bit short. That is the four point cushion now for

:25:55. > :26:18.Linda Zetchiri. Controlled attack. Andy Wood.

:26:19. > :26:24.It is all slipping away from Kirsty Gilmour right now. Has to change

:26:25. > :26:30.something up, change the momentum, because Linda Zetchiri is now

:26:31. > :26:52.playing very well indeed, having started the match very nervous.

:26:53. > :27:01.Fast legs now. Fast legs says Julian Robertson, keep your feet moving,

:27:02. > :27:21.keep alert. Keep hunting the shuttle.

:27:22. > :27:36.Gone wide, every time. That sideways drift. It was not wide by much but

:27:37. > :28:09.it was definitely wide. That is better. There is the punch

:28:10. > :28:14.clear I was talking about. I punch clear, I mean played with deception.

:28:15. > :28:20.Played flatter, so that it goes faster. It has to of course be

:28:21. > :28:24.played with deception otherwise if your opponent reads it, they will

:28:25. > :28:33.leap up and intercept. Allowing both players to have that.

:28:34. > :29:37.Huge tension around the hour mark. Ready to pounce. Blocked to the

:29:38. > :29:55.forehand and then the net shot. Good play from Kirsty Gilmour.

:29:56. > :30:07.I do not believe it! How on earth did Kirsty Gilmour get that first

:30:08. > :30:32.one back, the dive, has she hurt her knee?

:30:33. > :30:40.It really is an indication of the desire, the will, the refusal to

:30:41. > :30:45.give up on the rally. She is just stretching out that right knee. If

:30:46. > :31:17.you are a British supporter, concerning.

:31:18. > :31:24.The big difference in that rally, Kirsty Gilmour worked the rally

:31:25. > :31:30.first. Pulls her opponent in then flicked to the back, there we go,

:31:31. > :31:33.and then tries to make a on the diagonal, and simply, Zetchiri

:31:34. > :31:34.hasn't got the speed in the legs to retrieve it, should because she had

:31:35. > :31:43.been outmanoeuvred. Zetchiri has a 3-point cushion for

:31:44. > :32:23.making it to the knockout stage. Tremendous athletic ability from

:32:24. > :32:33.Kirsty Gilmour. Each and every point so critical, so

:32:34. > :32:56.precious. Yes, clever from Zetchiri, straight

:32:57. > :33:02.slice. Her coach was saying, go for angle rather than power, and there

:33:03. > :33:09.was no speed on the shuttle for Gilmour to feed off on her defensive

:33:10. > :33:17.shot. Another two tantalising points away from the knockout draw for

:33:18. > :33:25.lenders are cheery -- Linda Zetchiri. And that is brilliant,

:33:26. > :34:13.just one point away now for the left-hander from bog area.

:34:14. > :34:22.She has missed it. She is challenging. I was convinced as the

:34:23. > :34:32.shuttle landed that it had gone wide, but this challenge could end

:34:33. > :34:41.the hopes of Kirsty Gilmour. Desperation backhand, my goodness.

:34:42. > :34:46.Look at this. That's wide. We will wait for the instant review judge to

:34:47. > :35:03.categorically decide. Her second challenge in this

:35:04. > :35:12.deciding game. Oh, it has caught the line! And Linda Zetchiri of Bulgaria

:35:13. > :35:21.beats the number 11 seed, Kirsty Gilmour. And wonderful sportsmanship

:35:22. > :35:28.shown by the British number one. She congratulates her opponent, no doubt

:35:29. > :35:36.that Gilmour is bitterly, bitterly disappointed. But Zetchiri coming

:35:37. > :35:44.back after a disastrous start to the match. She was 11-1 down in the

:35:45. > :35:52.opening game, she lost that opening game, obvious disappointment for

:35:53. > :36:02.Kirsty Gilmour. But it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

:36:03. > :36:14.So, the British number one and 11 seed Kirsty Gilmour is out after

:36:15. > :36:20.losing to Linda Zetchiri, sad news for Kirsty in that group. Earlier

:36:21. > :36:24.this evening, great news for Great Britain at the tennis as Andy Murray

:36:25. > :36:30.came through what was a tremendous match against Juan Martin Del Potro.

:36:31. > :36:34.It went back and forth and has been a tremendous year for Andy Murray,

:36:35. > :36:39.he has won the Davis Cup, Wimbledon, and has defended his title at the

:36:40. > :36:47.Olympics that he won in London 2012, and he has become a dad. 2016 can't

:36:48. > :36:50.possibly get any better. There is the little matter of BBC Sports

:36:51. > :36:53.Personality of the Year the end of the year, maybe he will have some

:36:54. > :36:56.competition from the likes of Max Whitlock or Mo Farah, there will be

:36:57. > :37:10.a few more candidates before it is all over and done with.

:37:11. > :37:31.Ladies and gentlemen, the anthem of Great Britain.

:37:32. > :38:07.He is the ultimate sportsman, Andy Murray, and that was an emotional

:38:08. > :38:15.moment for him. A tough match from Juan Martin Del Potro, Murray won

:38:16. > :38:18.the first set, Del Potro took the second, wonderful tennis in sets

:38:19. > :38:24.three and four, but it is Andy Murray, Wimbledon and the, who has

:38:25. > :38:31.emerged victorious. And Kei Nishikori of Japan, he won the

:38:32. > :38:35.bronze. Have a look at the medals table, and it has been Great

:38:36. > :38:40.Britain's most successful day ever in an overseas Olympics, with five

:38:41. > :38:45.gold-medal is today courtesy of Jason Kenny, Max Whitlock, Andy

:38:46. > :38:51.Murray, Justin Rose. It brings our total number of gold-medal is to 15,

:38:52. > :38:59.moves us into second spot, 16 silver and seven bronze, 38 in total.

:39:00. > :39:06.Tremendous so far. But it is time to head to the hockey. Before we get to

:39:07. > :39:09.the action in the final quarterfinal, let's show you what

:39:10. > :39:18.has happened so far in the other 3/4-finals. Spain lost to Argentina

:39:19. > :39:23.2-1, and in the second match, Belgium defeated India 3-1. The

:39:24. > :39:27.Netherlands looked in dazzling form against Australia, they put them to

:39:28. > :39:31.the sword, winning 4-0, meaning there is just one more quarterfinal

:39:32. > :39:36.to show you, between Germany who won the gold in London up against New

:39:37. > :39:41.Zealand, who were in great written's group earlier in the tournament when

:39:42. > :39:42.they drew 2-2. We will show you the key action from the first three

:39:43. > :40:02.periods. The pass I think it was to Ryan

:40:03. > :40:08.Archibald. He has some support here, Child. New Zealand getting close,

:40:09. > :40:16.and they dribble in! New Zealand take the lead!

:40:17. > :40:23.Against the run of play, New Zealand has come down, and Simon Child

:40:24. > :40:31.initiated it in midfield. And it is Hugo Inglis who has found the back

:40:32. > :40:42.of the net. Turned two German defenders, left and right into the

:40:43. > :40:48.back of the net. It is Hugo Inglis's third goal of the tournament. Now he

:40:49. > :40:53.is doing it on the international stage in his second Olympic Games.

:40:54. > :41:03.What a run, what a goal, what a scoreline. So, against the run of

:41:04. > :41:06.play, and against the expectations of many, Germany find themselves

:41:07. > :41:10.trailing against New Zealand. We join it in the fourth and final

:41:11. > :41:18.period of the match, your commentators are Jack Nicholson

:41:19. > :41:29.Leslie Murdoch. 15 minutes to go, 15 minutes stand between New Zealand

:41:30. > :41:32.and a first victory against Germany. They would play Argentina in the

:41:33. > :41:41.semifinal. But they will be under pressure in this 15 minutes. They

:41:42. > :41:51.want to defend their Olympic gold medals but they won in London and

:41:52. > :41:54.Beijing four years previous. It is their quest, one of their big rivals

:41:55. > :42:08.is not in now, Australia. Trompertz gets it in. A little

:42:09. > :42:10.flicked up from Blair Hilton, risky to do that so deep inside your own

:42:11. > :42:31.half. Germany get possession. That goes into Ruhr, that was well

:42:32. > :42:38.read, and Manchester gets a foot to it. New Zealand get a stick to it,

:42:39. > :42:42.then it comes off the German foot, and New Zealand have a chance to

:42:43. > :42:48.breathe. That is very clever defending again. That is the back

:42:49. > :42:53.hit, the Tomahawk, and Manchester gets good purchase on it. New

:42:54. > :43:03.Zealand at the other end are in the D. James Coughlan lasered off, it

:43:04. > :43:11.doesn't quite get to Child, couldn't quite get his stick to it. New

:43:12. > :43:22.Zealand captain Simon Child gets a green card, so that will be ten

:43:23. > :43:28.minutes, they have lost a player. Here is well and, it is going into

:43:29. > :43:31.the D, but New Zealand get it clear before they can take advantage. Now

:43:32. > :43:42.it is Wilson. There is Simon Child, he is putting

:43:43. > :43:48.everything into this one. Down the line. Wilson continuing to make the

:43:49. > :43:54.run in the middle, Shay Neal will try to find him.

:43:55. > :44:01.A little flicked over. That would have been picked up in the past, I

:44:02. > :44:12.sure of it. Those little glances, deflections. How much of an issue is

:44:13. > :44:18.fitness going to be in a match like this the New Zealand? Quite a few of

:44:19. > :44:27.these players have drop jobs, they are not full-time athletes. But they

:44:28. > :44:33.do train like professionals. They were said to be the fittest side to

:44:34. > :44:39.leave to go to an Olympics. The 1976 guys might say something about that!

:44:40. > :44:43.Here is Hugo Inglis again, and it is a penalty corner to New Zealand!

:44:44. > :44:48.There first of the match, and more good work from Hugo Inglis. Here it

:44:49. > :44:52.is again. He has caused all sorts of trouble for Germany today. Hugo

:44:53. > :45:02.Inglis in the stick hack that the umpire saw. That is what it means to

:45:03. > :45:04.Simon Child. They are going upstairs, they are going for

:45:05. > :45:34.referral. So, he is having a look at it.

:45:35. > :45:37.Another good look here, here is this stick through the legs. We will soon

:45:38. > :45:54.find out. No clear reason to change the

:45:55. > :46:04.position on that. There are go, penalty corner stance. -- there we

:46:05. > :46:10.go, penalty corner stance. The Germans still arguing it, but this

:46:11. > :46:15.is the chance. For New Zealand, 11 minutes and 40 seconds to go, the

:46:16. > :46:23.Germans packing the goal but there are six footers. Russell on 21 away

:46:24. > :46:28.at the top. Look at the German defenders pushed off the line.

:46:29. > :46:36.Woods! New Zealand lead Germany by 2-1! 11 and a half minutes to go in

:46:37. > :46:50.the Olympic quarterfinal and what a story this could be! Shea McAleese

:46:51. > :46:54.getting the kudos. There is the injection and the strike and the

:46:55. > :47:01.little deflection from Shea McAleese out on the right. They practice

:47:02. > :47:08.those 1 million times, all teams too. Russell went for it, slipped in

:47:09. > :47:14.by Shea McAleese. That is the confident looking man, 2-0 to New

:47:15. > :47:28.Zealand. 29-macro, we thought we were seen

:47:29. > :47:41.intensity from Germany before, we will see something else now --

:47:42. > :47:46.Haner. What can Germany do here? Ample ball. Just picked off that

:47:47. > :47:59.time. Very difficult area. First goal of the tournament for

:48:00. > :48:17.Shea McAleese. 30th goal of his New Zealand career.

:48:18. > :48:23.What a time to get it. The German fans are still in fine voice. Even

:48:24. > :48:29.they must be thinking it is going to be a big old task for them.

:48:30. > :48:33.Certainly, a classy side like Germany, you would not count them

:48:34. > :48:40.out. This is a very highly skilled German unit and they are fighting

:48:41. > :48:44.for the opportunity. They are the form side here. That is what

:48:45. > :48:54.quarterfinals can do. Archibald almost giving it away but manages to

:48:55. > :49:06.rescue it. File called against Blair Hilton. -- foul. Look at that

:49:07. > :49:12.sweeping drive forward. Folks. Trying to get inside, blocked by

:49:13. > :49:28.Shea McAleese -- Florian Fuchs. Drilled across the field. Back

:49:29. > :49:32.inside again. New Zealand keeping their shape, Germany having to work

:49:33. > :49:39.hard for opportunities. They could have won here as they try and get

:49:40. > :49:44.into the De. New Zealand do not even bother trying to chase it up. All

:49:45. > :49:52.their players, except for the goalkeeper, trying to attack. To put

:49:53. > :49:58.the ball into space to make the Germans run back to get it. Played

:49:59. > :50:01.down the line, Florian Fuchs tries to twist and turn his way inside.

:50:02. > :50:28.Bradley Shaw was in there. Played in and it is blocked off and

:50:29. > :50:37.now it is two on one, 65 may grow making the run forward. -- Simon

:50:38. > :50:45.Child. A little knock inside, turns another, racing into the penalty

:50:46. > :50:55.area, Inglis. It forced Nicolas Jacobi to come out and get rid of

:50:56. > :50:58.it. Have not really said the name of Nicolas Jacobi much at all because

:50:59. > :51:07.all he has had to do was pick the ball out of the net twice! New

:51:08. > :51:19.Zealand a game getting to the line. -- again. Into the corner for 38. Is

:51:20. > :51:29.this going to be a chance? It was just a good challenge -- Jenness.

:51:30. > :51:40.Germany need to do something and soon. Seven minutes ago and it is

:51:41. > :51:52.2-0 to New Zealand. Sure. Nick Woods -- Shaw. -- Nic Woods. The German

:51:53. > :52:00.fans all stood up in the grandstand opposite us. They are not singing

:52:01. > :52:06.much any more. Look at the passing from Germany in the deep defence,

:52:07. > :52:09.that is precise. The New Zealand players are right in their faces,

:52:10. > :52:26.except the ball with such ease. Now is this the goalkeeper change,

:52:27. > :52:33.yes it is, that is it for Nicolas Jacobi, his game is over. And from

:52:34. > :52:38.now on, it will be Martin Haner who will wear the goalkeeper Jerzy, but

:52:39. > :52:42.there will be 11 outfield players for Germany as they push in the

:52:43. > :52:54.final minutes to try and avoid what would be an upset. Look where the

:52:55. > :53:03.German players are, all gathered in the front. Haner with the yellow

:53:04. > :53:13.shirt comes back and grab set. Furste. Knocks it inside, little

:53:14. > :53:20.turn from Trompertz, back to Haner who tries to get it out to the wing.

:53:21. > :53:25.Down to the line by Linus Butt. It has gone wide and the chances still

:53:26. > :53:32.there but New Zealand bring it away. The ball was flying around. That is

:53:33. > :53:40.very good defence, under the most extreme pressure, there are the shot

:53:41. > :53:43.blocked straight back. The umpire and allowed play to go on, play at

:53:44. > :53:53.their advantage, gave Germany lots of opportunities. Five minutes and

:53:54. > :54:01.17 seconds to go, 2-0 to New Zealand in the Olympic quarterfinal. New

:54:02. > :54:08.Zealand win possession. Shay Neal tries to flick it back but it comes

:54:09. > :54:13.to Ruhr. Incredible skill and he is clattered to the ground. He is

:54:14. > :54:32.trying to gee up his team and his fans up. Look at this, the skills

:54:33. > :54:36.are outstanding. Blair Tarrant. They are allowed to stand their ground,

:54:37. > :54:40.but it is not going upstairs, New Zealand are not referring it and

:54:41. > :54:54.this is just what the German team needed. So, Mathias Muller goes to

:54:55. > :55:03.take the penalty corner. Furste is lurking and it is saved by

:55:04. > :55:08.Manchester! You have to pick those, the right side to move to and here

:55:09. > :55:14.comes the heat a game from Germany, they are on fire. Another penalty

:55:15. > :55:19.corner, Ruhr winning it again. What a nervous four and a half minutes

:55:20. > :55:25.for New Zealand. Here is a look again, it is Simon Child who swings

:55:26. > :55:27.in his stick. It is the sliding tackle which the umpire told

:55:28. > :55:36.everyone they were not going to allow. That is magnificent, the

:55:37. > :55:44.stick getting full flush. We see the stick of someone else go flying.

:55:45. > :55:50.They have to do it all again. Furste lurking, number 21, number six to

:55:51. > :55:55.the left of him is Haner. Here come Germany again, another penalty

:55:56. > :56:01.corner, Sachsenring goals down. Furste again but this time finds the

:56:02. > :56:10.back of the net, four and a half minutes ago, Germany are back in

:56:11. > :56:13.this quarterfinal! 2-1. And he made that backboard Singh, didn't he?

:56:14. > :56:20.Look at it, straight through the middle. Will not be one of the

:56:21. > :56:26.proudest moments for Manchester. He is so fast. He decided what he was

:56:27. > :56:30.going to do and this is what this German side can do, already in the

:56:31. > :56:36.Olympics we have seen them score in the last 30 seconds of a match to

:56:37. > :56:41.win it. They have been in situations like this. New Zealand will hope

:56:42. > :56:46.they can keep them out. They have added much to this match. So much,

:56:47. > :56:52.New Zealand. Fourth goal from the penalty corner. Taking the

:56:53. > :56:57.goalkeeper off has paid dividends. Absolutely, it is still a risky

:56:58. > :57:02.strategy with four minutes to go. One break for New Zealand, things

:57:03. > :57:12.could be looking rosy. Ruhr cannot keep that in. Wilson is running

:57:13. > :57:18.forward. He is lurking in case opportunities arise. Lovely little

:57:19. > :57:21.turn from Furste, blocked by the feet of Simon Child. It seems ages

:57:22. > :57:30.since the ball has been backed down here.

:57:31. > :57:42.Now the German fans are back in boys, the New Zealand fans, most of

:57:43. > :57:44.them, chins resting on their hands. Germany are particularly potent when

:57:45. > :57:55.they attacked down the right-hand side. Christopher Wesley trying to

:57:56. > :58:01.cut back inside. Three minutes and 15 seconds to go. 2-1 to New

:58:02. > :58:11.Zealand. A drive to the line, another penalty corner for Germany.

:58:12. > :58:13.Three minutes to go. Our Germany about to wrestle themselves back

:58:14. > :58:18.into this match? They have got position and that is the key thing,

:58:19. > :58:21.using that right-hand side, it comes down the defenders left hand side

:58:22. > :58:31.which is that others want to defend on. Smart work from Germany. Simon

:58:32. > :58:41.Child a game who it came off. -- again. This time it is Moritz

:58:42. > :58:55.Furste. He is out there, but so is Grambusch. Grambusch. It is saved!

:58:56. > :59:01.The ball flies wide of the goal. Manchester's love doing the business

:59:02. > :59:08.that time. Still a chance with Ruhr and it flies over the bar. -- love.

:59:09. > :59:21.Germany not wasting any time, drilling it in, blocked by Simon

:59:22. > :59:28.Child. Haner. Out of Furste and he plays it in and New Zealand have

:59:29. > :59:33.possession. Devon Manchester waives his arm and says Khan down, let us

:59:34. > :59:39.slow this down, two minutes and 18 seconds left on the clock. Here is a

:59:40. > :59:42.look at the penalty corner, Devon Manchester again turning it away

:59:43. > :59:47.with his left hand. Moving to the left, he flicked it that time, but

:59:48. > :59:52.it did not come down the middle, boot across. Got his whole body

:59:53. > :59:55.behind the line of it. Two movements does big and as for New Zealand to

:59:56. > :00:07.hold on. They have got the ball in the German third. Nick Wilson is

:00:08. > :00:16.going to take it. They have turned over the free. A yellow card! For

:00:17. > :00:27.taking too long. Two them. One has got a yellow. It is Wilson who goes

:00:28. > :00:40.off. New Zealand play the last one minute 30 with ten players.

:00:41. > :00:53.That ball just wriggles away. He will not come back on yellow. This

:00:54. > :00:58.is pressure now, they have been withstanding pressure for the

:00:59. > :01:07.majority of the match, New Zealand. He plays it in and Archibald gets to

:01:08. > :01:22.it. It has changed the face of attack.

:01:23. > :01:27.One said it was a free hit to New Zealand, the other said a corner. It

:01:28. > :01:28.was lifted into the
