:00:49. > :00:57.Good afternoon. You have to go back to the Saint Louis Olympics of 1904

:00:58. > :01:06.to find the last Olympic golf champion, a Canadian, George line.

:01:07. > :01:11.Who will follow him today? Kat Downes is there, the final round is

:01:12. > :01:18.underway, bring us up to date. Justin Rose still ahead? Just, just

:01:19. > :01:23.managing to keep his nose in front of his good friend and rival Henrik

:01:24. > :01:28.Stenson, team-mates in the Ryder Cup. They played their matches

:01:29. > :01:33.together in 2014 and won all of them. They get on very well and are

:01:34. > :01:45.having real fun in the sunshine. Look at the size of the crowd. G's

:01:46. > :01:55.debut here, after 112 years. -- Golf's. Crowds coming out in their

:01:56. > :02:01.thousands, 12,000. Walking along the ninth fairway with the leading

:02:02. > :02:06.group, Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson of Sweden. A tale of cat and

:02:07. > :02:12.mouse as they have come down to the turn. Justin Rose dropped a shot at

:02:13. > :02:23.the seventh, bogeying that. Henrik Stenson missed his putt.

:02:24. > :02:35.Justin Rose has reclaimed the lead, by one shot.

:02:36. > :02:38.It looks like a fight today. A lovely touch from the International

:02:39. > :02:44.golf Federation to put the gold medal and silver medal and bonds

:02:45. > :02:49.medal contenders in a trio in the final group bringing home it is not

:02:50. > :02:56.just the winner, there is no checks or any points in world rankings, it

:02:57. > :03:01.is about medals. The medal positions all went out at

:03:02. > :03:05.the start, Justin Rose still in gold-medal position, Henrik Stenson

:03:06. > :03:16.in Kosovo, Marcus Fraser has dropped away. His place has been taken by

:03:17. > :03:26.Matt Cooch the USA, four birdies in six holes. He has eagled the tenth.

:03:27. > :03:42.Wouldn't it be amazing for Justin Rose. Such a cheerleader for the

:03:43. > :03:45.game. He said spending time with the members of Team GB for whom this is

:03:46. > :03:51.the pinnacle of what they can hope to achieve has been an inspiration.

:03:52. > :04:03.And he would dearly love to add a gold medal to the tally.

:04:04. > :04:07.I remember him saying, I have received a lot from the game of

:04:08. > :04:10.golf, it is not just about winning gold medals, he believes his

:04:11. > :04:16.presence will help the development of golf around the world.

:04:17. > :04:22.Thank you. We are watching him now. Let us get out onto the course.

:04:23. > :05:05.Bubba Watson beginning his homeward nine. Setting himself up for the

:05:06. > :05:10.birdie putt. To get to seven under, he has done

:05:11. > :05:23.that. The Watson started at six under par, now seven under par. --

:05:24. > :05:33.Bubba. Here is Marcus Fraser.

:05:34. > :05:37.An opportunity to go back to eight under. A little right to left,

:05:38. > :05:55.slightly uphill. Here is the man doing the chasing,

:05:56. > :06:02.Matt Kuchar. He needs this to stay at 11 under. The man currently alone

:06:03. > :06:12.in third, bronze medal position. And that is a great putt by Koo char,

:06:13. > :06:20.you make putts like that after a false stroke -- Kuchar. And he will

:06:21. > :06:34.believe he may be able to challenge for silver or gold.

:06:35. > :06:47.Stenson now. He can type with Justin Rose with this putt.

:06:48. > :06:53.Like Marcus Fraser, across the face of the hole.

:06:54. > :07:03.Par for Stenson. He remains one behind Rose. Kuchar

:07:04. > :07:16.alone in third. The top three medal positions as

:07:17. > :07:22.they stand will not need to be separated by a play-off. The only

:07:23. > :07:34.play-offs to decide who finishes gold, silver or bronze.

:07:35. > :07:43.He wanted that to take, it did not. Thomas Pieters, second at 15. Over

:07:44. > :08:03.100 metres in. He likes this. Agonisingly close.

:08:04. > :08:15.Close to being an eagle. Just behind the cup. And target back, shaving

:08:16. > :08:20.the cup. -- tugged. He will have that for birdie. Thomas Pieters

:08:21. > :08:22.continues on his merry way again. Looking to go six under on the day.

:08:23. > :08:37.This is the tenth hole. There is water down the left. Not

:08:38. > :08:45.likely to come into play. And the pin position on 11 yards,

:08:46. > :08:53.and six from the left. Front left position today for that narrow

:08:54. > :08:57.green, Justin Rose to go first. Out in 32.

:08:58. > :08:58.Four birdies but a bogey on seven. Stenson out in 32, with three

:08:59. > :09:31.birdies. He had three eagles here today.

:09:32. > :09:35.Kuchar and Kai Emaan have eagled the tenth, and we have had an eagle from

:09:36. > :09:47.Graham DeLaet of Canada -- Kaymer. This is birdie- eagle territory for

:09:48. > :09:59.this prolific hitter, Henrik Stenson.

:10:00. > :10:32.Up ahead on 12. Aphibarnrat. He and Jaidee flying the flag for Thailand.

:10:33. > :10:40.Back on ten, Marcus Fraser. Seven under par. He begun the day at nine

:10:41. > :10:45.under -- he began. Currently Marcus Fraser is in a tie for seventh, at

:10:46. > :10:52.seven under with David Lingmerth, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson.

:10:53. > :11:00.Aphibarnrat and Thomas Pieters are tied for fifth.

:11:01. > :11:08.Cabrera-Bello for his par. Watching it sailed by. He will drop down to

:11:09. > :11:43.eight under and join Thomas Pieters and Aphibarnrat.

:11:44. > :11:59.Gregory birdie started this final day at five under par. -- Bourdy. A

:12:00. > :12:14.good opening with a 67 and 69 in the second round. Now, Bubba Watson.

:12:15. > :12:18.Two times Masters champion in 2012 and 2014, in between, Adam Scott

:12:19. > :12:47.from Australia winning at Augusta. One under for the day, Bubba Watson,

:12:48. > :12:59.seven under for the championship. 218 yards to the hole, here.

:13:00. > :13:15.Brilliant shot. He stared it down all the way.

:13:16. > :13:31.Matt Kuchar just a little earlier on 12, currently on his own in third.

:13:32. > :13:44.Kuchar, 11 under par. On 15, Thomas Pieters of Belgium.

:13:45. > :13:50.To get to nine under with this putt for Bourdy.

:13:51. > :13:53.At nine under par. And on his own in fourth place.

:13:54. > :14:05.Six under for his round today. It looks like he has a hybrid.

:14:06. > :14:36.Maybe a five wood. He is on the parting surface, pin

:14:37. > :14:53.high. -- putting.

:14:54. > :14:59.The wind is just picking up, you can see how the shirts of the golfers

:15:00. > :15:05.are rustling in the wind. There was no wind at all this morning. They

:15:06. > :15:10.started at 7am, the first group went out at 7am this morning. Not a

:15:11. > :15:15.breath of wind, not a flutter anywhere. But now, Justin Rose is

:15:16. > :15:57.with his second shot. That's perfect. Stenson went with

:15:58. > :16:01.3-wood of the tee. One wonders how he is going to be attacking the back

:16:02. > :16:08.nine. Justin Rose currently leads by one. They're both free and on the

:16:09. > :16:20.day. Matt Kuchar and Thomas Pieters both 6-under, chasing hard. Kuchar

:16:21. > :16:28.is 11 and, third on his own. We've got a really good view over the

:16:29. > :16:38.tenth. The water indicates there's a wind whipping off the left of

:16:39. > :16:43.Stenson. Looking to just chase it up and on. It's going to stop just a

:16:44. > :16:50.little short, but Justin Rose has a little pitch into this tenth green.

:16:51. > :16:56.Henrik Stenson might well be tempted to roll it on with the putter from

:16:57. > :17:04.that situation. The power that he has, Henrik Stenson, just powers

:17:05. > :17:17.into his approach shots. Sergio Garcia at 16, 7-under. He had a

:17:18. > :17:25.birdie miss at 15, but a lovely recovery from Sergio Garcia. It

:17:26. > :17:30.touches around the green. Henrik Stenson's pal. I'm not so sure he's

:17:31. > :17:36.going to go up to him this time! Henrik Stenson, he's not going to

:17:37. > :17:46.pull at the table this time. In fact, he's turned round. -- pull the

:17:47. > :17:49.tail. Perhaps he's had enough of watching the Gulf. You can't take

:17:50. > :17:57.your eyes off this though, not when there's a chasing pack. Rose at

:17:58. > :18:05.15-under, Stenson 14, Kuchar on his own. At 11, Bubba Watson at 7-under.

:18:06. > :18:31.Bubba Watson on the green at 11. 1-under today, Bubba Watson. An

:18:32. > :18:36.agonised cry from Bubba Watson. And she stays 7-under, and 1-under for

:18:37. > :18:41.the day. Bubba Watson has written to make a real charge today but instead

:18:42. > :18:47.it's his team-mate, Matt Kuchar, who has made the charge. This is the

:18:48. > :19:02.13th, 8-under par. Cabrera-Bello of Spain. That's quite handy, right

:19:03. > :19:05.there. We've had a 64 today. A low round from Patrick Reed of the

:19:06. > :19:14.United States. Martin Keil of Germany with a 66. -- Martin Kaymer

:19:15. > :19:20.of Germany with a 66. But the battle, of course, taking place on

:19:21. > :19:23.the tenth hole. Justin Rose will be first to go because Henrik Stenson

:19:24. > :20:00.has powered his second just off the green.

:20:01. > :20:08.People are moving in his eye line. So many resets we are seeing from

:20:09. > :20:22.players. The galleries are getting excited.

:20:23. > :20:33."Bite", he says. Well, it's not bad. Not bad, but it didn't bite. No.

:20:34. > :20:49.Matt Kuchar now, 11-under par. This tee at 12-under par, Matt Kuchar. Is

:20:50. > :20:53.it? Too far away for Matt Kuchar of the United States. A smile from Matt

:20:54. > :21:00.Kuchar. He's such a good tennis player. He and his wife, who was a

:21:01. > :21:04.tennis player at Georgia Tech, actually paired up to win a husband

:21:05. > :21:14.and wife tennis match that was ATP affiliated. Pretty talented

:21:15. > :21:18.all-round sportsman is Matt Kuchar. He has flown his family in to be

:21:19. > :21:33.with him. Perhaps he is inspired by their presence. Birdie putt at 16

:21:34. > :21:38.for Garcia. 8-under. Sergio, 6-under for his round today. But now this,

:21:39. > :21:46.Henrik Stenson could change things dramatically here. He's just off the

:21:47. > :22:00.green and ten but he has an equal opportunity on this par-5 10th hole.

:22:01. > :22:11.The fearsome Henrik Stenson. This putt won't intimidate him. That'll

:22:12. > :22:28.still be a very good birdie for Henrik Stenson at the 10th.

:22:29. > :22:38.We just looked at Justin Rose, there. "Do You want me to finish?"

:22:39. > :22:52.Yes! He's finished with a birdie to get to 15-under par. Now on the tee

:22:53. > :23:02.at 16. Thomas Pieters with the iron out.

:23:03. > :23:14.Don't tell me, he's worked it all the way up to the green with an iron

:23:15. > :23:18.on that driveable par four. The flag is back right today. He has two an

:23:19. > :23:23.initial tier, but an iron from Thomas Pieters! It's another game.

:23:24. > :23:48.Marcus Fraser, good effort from him. Cabrera-Bello, his second in 13.

:23:49. > :23:57.Straight at the flag. Playing some very nice Gulf, the Spaniard.

:23:58. > :24:06.Justin Rose needs this for birdie at ten. Stenson's already tapped in to

:24:07. > :24:49.join him on 15-under. Rose to maintain that one stroke lead.

:24:50. > :25:02.We are all square with AIDS to play in the gold-medal match. -- with

:25:03. > :25:08.eight to play. This is Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson. 15-under. Tied

:25:09. > :25:16.for first place. And there, Henrik Stenson! The relief. He's got the

:25:17. > :25:25.shot back. His reaction after watching Rose slide his putt by.

:25:26. > :25:32.It's a par for Rose at ten. Matt Kuchar is currently alone in third

:25:33. > :25:43.with 11-under. It is effectively a gold-medal shadow between these two.

:25:44. > :25:56.445 metres, 487 yards is the 11th. The hole is 22 yards on but seven in

:25:57. > :26:00.from the right so it's a real tucked away hole with the bunker protecting

:26:01. > :26:04.it. It's tucked away where the green slopes towards the bunker. A lot of

:26:05. > :26:08.protection for the pin placing today. Not many spoils here today.

:26:09. > :26:19.Patrick Reed with birdie. Gavin Green with birdie.

:26:20. > :26:59.Once again he's left the big one in the bag. He doesn't use a tee. He

:27:00. > :27:03.just does a little tap with his club just to raise a little bit of turf

:27:04. > :27:19.stop he picks the 3-wood up from the turf. Stenson, having made birdie on

:27:20. > :27:21.ten. He has drawn level with Justin Rose at 15-under par. This is the

:27:22. > :27:42.11th. That's what he does so well. Gets in

:27:43. > :27:55.his rhythm, very difficult to catch his Henrik Stenson. Dreams of an

:27:56. > :28:06.Olympic Gold Medal almost certainly will end with gold or silver. Justin

:28:07. > :28:09.Rose can catch, though. The team Great Britain athletes, Andy Murray,

:28:10. > :28:13.one of the first things he did was get on social media and wish Justin

:28:14. > :28:22.Rose the very best of luck against Henrik Stenson.

:28:23. > :28:30.He doesn't like it. He doesn't like it, stay out of there! That's not

:28:31. > :28:39.where you want to be, not in that lot. It really depends on the life.

:28:40. > :28:49.If he's in a bush, it could be awful.

:28:50. > :28:59.Let's go to 13, Matt Kuchar. 11-under. He's got to 11-under and

:29:00. > :29:10.then he's struggled to find his birdie since then.

:29:11. > :29:20.Matt Kuchar, let's see if he can change that here at 13. Perfect

:29:21. > :29:27.right there. Very, very good shot. Garcia and 17 a little earlier.

:29:28. > :29:33.8-under par for the Spaniard. A short par-3 here, the shortest of

:29:34. > :29:51.the par-3s on the golf course. An error from Sergio.

:29:52. > :30:05.That is pretty soft, the sound. He hasn't got a lot of green to work

:30:06. > :30:07.with here, Sergio. You don't want to be failing to get

:30:08. > :30:23.it out of the bunker. Raphael Cabrera-Bello birdie chance

:30:24. > :30:37.for the Spaniard. Trying to get the shot back that he

:30:38. > :30:51.dropped. He drops his pastor. He will have to fix that.

:30:52. > :31:08.Thomas Pieters, playing over 370 metres.

:31:09. > :31:25.This is tempting the players to go for the risk and reward. Parting for

:31:26. > :31:30.an eagle. -- putting. That is for birdie, Thomas Pieters,

:31:31. > :31:49.if he makes that birdie, he is within one of Matt Kuchar.

:31:50. > :32:33.The problem here now on the 11th is where is Justin Rose's golf ball?

:32:34. > :33:06.So, Justin Rose, a little contemplation. Waiting to see what

:33:07. > :33:13.he is going to do. Meanwhile, Marcus Fraser will be

:33:14. > :33:20.first to play. Less than 200 yards.

:33:21. > :33:29.Two over the day, but that opening 63 showed what he can do.

:33:30. > :33:31.He was getting the placement of the bald spot on with virtually every

:33:32. > :34:00.hole. Out in 32, just the one bogey. Four

:34:01. > :34:02.birdies. This is a crucial shot right here,

:34:03. > :34:26.second to the 11th. That is magnificent. Out of that,

:34:27. > :34:35.that is superb from Justin Rose. He knows he has got out of jail there.

:34:36. > :34:41.Funny what makes you smile in golf. He just got out of jail.

:34:42. > :34:42.Meanwhile, Henrik Stenson, medal of the fairway with his tee shot, his

:34:43. > :35:13.three wood. He does not like this again, Henrik

:35:14. > :35:24.Stenson. Just not taking advantage of the fantastic lie.

:35:25. > :35:32.Justin Rose, how he squeezed that shot out of the waste land, that

:35:33. > :35:39.ball between two bushes. He made clean contact with a life like --

:35:40. > :35:48.lie like that is very difficult, and to get onto the green. He knows it

:35:49. > :35:53.could have been so much worse. He let himself down off the tee but

:35:54. > :35:55.made a great recovery. Up ahead on 13, Matt Kuchar.

:35:56. > :36:14.His second shot. He didn't like that either. High

:36:15. > :36:21.standards they set themselves, of course they do. Pin high, centre of

:36:22. > :36:30.the green, but he wanted it closer. Now, Thomas Pieters for birdie.

:36:31. > :36:39.Within one of Kuchar. Chased off.

:36:40. > :36:45.-- after that. So, Thomas Pieters, three putts.

:36:46. > :36:52.Now, on the 17th. A big miss for Thomas Pieters. Three

:36:53. > :37:10.putts. We just saw Matt Kuchar's approach

:37:11. > :38:00.shot. A putt for birdie, to get to 12

:38:01. > :38:08.under. A good looking putt.

:38:09. > :38:22.He was able to get out of that waste land with the scrub brushes, the

:38:23. > :38:41.sound, he has done well to be able to be putting for a birdie.

:38:42. > :38:49.Slow down... It has got a bit of a tail on it, and work to do for his

:38:50. > :38:54.par. Cabrera-Bello. In the sand. His

:38:55. > :39:05.second at the 14th. Trying to encourage the ball to

:39:06. > :39:06.release. Henrik Stenson is of the philosophy that you need to teach

:39:07. > :39:17.your golf ball how to behave. That is the secret perhaps to his

:39:18. > :39:26.great golf, his philosophy. Maybe.

:39:27. > :39:29.Marcus Fraser, his round of golf today, two over, currently in a tie

:39:30. > :39:36.for sixth. At seven under. He began this

:39:37. > :39:54.tournament with a first round 63, nine birdies.

:39:55. > :40:10.It is going to fall well short, and right.

:40:11. > :40:29.So, Matt Kuchar has this for par, at 13.

:40:30. > :40:40.He makes his par, remains at 11 under, and is well positioned to

:40:41. > :40:47.claim the bronze medal. Stenson on 11.

:40:48. > :40:49.Knowing that Justin Rose has not made birdie, but has some work to do

:40:50. > :41:10.for his par. Birdie putt for Stenson. It has got

:41:11. > :41:36.to go, on the right line, but short. Thomas Pieters, birdie putt. No,

:41:37. > :41:41.ends up short and left, didn't hit it.

:41:42. > :41:47.Back to 11, Justin Rose has an all-important par putt.

:41:48. > :41:50.He does, and he knows it. To remind you, the players

:41:51. > :42:00.challenging for the gold medal here are exempt. They will gain automatic

:42:01. > :42:04.entry, regardless of their finish in the Olympic golf tournament to the

:42:05. > :42:12.four majors of next year. But the winner of the Olympic of tournament

:42:13. > :42:16.will gain exemption. Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose qualify

:42:17. > :42:22.automatically. Justin Rose, 12th in the world rankings.

:42:23. > :42:30.But the world rankings points are fairly critical here.

:42:31. > :42:35.Because the winner of the Olympic golf tournament will claim 46 world

:42:36. > :42:39.ranking points. And that would see Henrik Stenson shoot up to fourth in

:42:40. > :42:47.the world rankings if he does win. Justin Rose is set to be back in the

:42:48. > :42:58.top ten. He needs this. That is a good putt.

:42:59. > :43:06.Very good putt. And he has dodged a bullet there. Having gone into that

:43:07. > :43:12.waste land. Now, Cabrera-Bello. A par putt for

:43:13. > :43:14.the Spaniard. It is a good par putt, he gave it a

:43:15. > :43:34.real chance. And Marcus Fraser, his par putts are

:43:35. > :43:44.not dropping. This is to remain seven under.

:43:45. > :43:54.A good stroke by Fraser. It should be a tap in par for

:43:55. > :43:59.Stenson but the tension is mounting. And this duel between these two gets

:44:00. > :44:05.gripping with every shot. If we are going to have a play-off

:44:06. > :44:09.for the gold medal, it will be holes 18, one, and 17, and this loop will

:44:10. > :44:15.be repeated for as long as necessary.

:44:16. > :44:20.If these two do finish 16, 17 under par and tied, then we will have a

:44:21. > :44:26.gold medal play-off at the 18th, the first and the 17th, in a loop.

:44:27. > :44:37.Repeated for as long as necessary. Stenson makes par.

:44:38. > :44:48.Rose and Stenson, seven holes remaining, they are 15 under par.

:44:49. > :44:58.A good finishing hole, this. Par-5. The flag today is left on the green,

:44:59. > :45:16.eight from the left. Thomas Pieters started it out just a

:45:17. > :45:24.little right. A good-looking drive. He hit the length, such long draw.

:45:25. > :45:29.Thomas Pieters and Henrik Stenson are big hitters of the golf ball.

:45:30. > :45:42.Matt Kuchar having a fantastic ground. Currently on 6-under through

:45:43. > :45:55.13. He's on the tee at 14. It's the longest of the par-3s on the course.

:45:56. > :46:05.Words of encouragement for the golf ball. Kuchar has taken it out

:46:06. > :46:09.slightly to the right. Stenson's got the driver out here on 12. It's only

:46:10. > :46:19.the second time he's used a driver in this round.

:46:20. > :46:23.Gasps from the crowd with the length that he achieves with this driver as

:46:24. > :46:43.well. He will stay out of that sand. Justin Rose is straight behind

:46:44. > :46:54.Stenson. Reminders for the galleries, no cameras, please,

:46:55. > :47:05.folks. 510 yards par-4. Got to love the modern game.

:47:06. > :47:21.It's gone left. It's all right, but that is the third or fourth tee shot

:47:22. > :47:23.that Justin Rose have hit left. He's OK, he hasn't gone into any hazard

:47:24. > :47:39.or sand. Just linking everything a bit left,

:47:40. > :47:46.as Alan was saying. It's all going to get twitchy in the next six or

:47:47. > :47:50.seven holes in this fight. We will leave the golf here on BBC Two but

:47:51. > :47:55.if you would like to follow it to its conclusion it is available right

:47:56. > :47:59.now on BBC Four. It's all getting very tense. An historic day in the

:48:00. > :48:04.making. We have to get to be sailing because it's been delayed for an

:48:05. > :48:09.hour already. Shirley Robertson is out there today. What was the

:48:10. > :48:15.problem, surely? Lack of wind. As you can see behind me, we have wind.

:48:16. > :48:18.It is looking good. I fully expect to see the medal races get underway

:48:19. > :48:30.in the next hour. Today it is the RF! Men and women, that is the

:48:31. > :48:33.windsurfing. -- RS:X. Nick Dempsey lead until halfway through the

:48:34. > :48:39.event, but then the big Dutchman Dorian van Rijsselberghe got his

:48:40. > :48:44.skates on and was unbeatable. Gold and silver already secured about,

:48:45. > :48:49.but for Nick it's an important race. It is the last RX Micro windsurfing

:48:50. > :48:55.race of his long career, five Olympic Games. -- RS:X. I have half

:48:56. > :49:00.an eye out on the Ocean course and I'm just looking over my shoulder to

:49:01. > :49:06.see if we can see some white dots. Giles Scott, the hopefuls from Team

:49:07. > :49:10.GB, is out there. This is his final two races before the medal race. He

:49:11. > :49:13.is so good, he could well secure gold today. And one between watching

:49:14. > :49:21.Nick and getting out there to support Giles. -- I'm torn between.

:49:22. > :49:25.What is the situation with Nick Dempsey, does he have too sure what

:49:26. > :49:31.to compete in this medal race? Yes, they make you! I think you may not

:49:32. > :49:36.have if he had the choice. I was chatting to glory in this morning

:49:37. > :49:41.and they were really relaxed. -- I was chatting to Van Rijsselberghe

:49:42. > :49:45.this morning. Runs are still up for grabs. They will try not to get

:49:46. > :49:48.involved in a battle but it's quite a moment for Nick. Ever since he

:49:49. > :49:54.left school this is what he's been doing. He had a phenomenal career in

:49:55. > :49:59.windsurfing, two silvers and a bronze. He might be quite emotional

:50:00. > :50:03.by the end of the day. He is such a committed sailor. I remember in 2012

:50:04. > :50:06.there was talk, and it did happen, that windsurfing went off the

:50:07. > :50:11.Olympic programme and was going to be replaced with kite surfing. Such

:50:12. > :50:16.was his dedication he was already talking about having to learn that

:50:17. > :50:22.and come to Rio to compete. In the end the RS:X was reinstated. On his

:50:23. > :50:29.life, he's put his wet suit on and stepped on a board. Whenever they

:50:30. > :50:32.changed class, he's adapted. When you think about that, it's so

:50:33. > :50:37.physical, it's relentless. Not just on the board but also on the gym. It

:50:38. > :50:41.is the most physical of all the sailing classes. It's quite an

:50:42. > :50:45.achievement to last that long. I'm not sure what he will do now, but

:50:46. > :50:49.he's got a lot of good memories to look back on. And two small boys

:50:50. > :50:55.waiting to give him a big hug when he gets home. Surely, enjoy today

:50:56. > :50:58.and I'm glad to see that Tim is not having too difficult a job on camera

:50:59. > :51:02.today. This could be a hugely significant

:51:03. > :51:06.four hours for British sport. It might be the defining moment for the

:51:07. > :51:11.British team in Rio because there is always one gold guaranteed. There

:51:12. > :51:15.are a guaranteed at least three silvers out there. Callum Skinner

:51:16. > :51:19.and Jason Kenny in the men's individual sprint have already got

:51:20. > :51:25.gold and silver. Who gets what will be decided around nine o'clock. Andy

:51:26. > :51:27.Murray has a second Gold Medal on the cards against Juan Martin del

:51:28. > :51:34.Potro in the men's single. Nick Dempsey only needs to show up today

:51:35. > :51:39.to be assured of his Silver Medal. Justin Rose is fighting hard in the

:51:40. > :51:44.men's golf. And it is gymnastics wrestling real history could be made

:51:45. > :52:21.today. -- gymnastics where some real history.

:52:22. > :53:00.a contest on the microphones, but a contest on the pommel horse is

:53:01. > :53:04.coming up. Those of you who remember the World Championships in Glasgow

:53:05. > :53:07.last year will remember that Max Whitlock and Louis Smith fought it

:53:08. > :53:11.out. It came down to fractions of a point between them, with Max winning

:53:12. > :53:15.the very first Gold Medal by a man ever for Great Britain in the World

:53:16. > :53:18.Championships. Who knows, it might be a Championship for gold and

:53:19. > :53:24.silver once again in the Olympic final. It's the start of the

:53:25. > :53:26.apparatus finals. Matt Baker, there is huge excitement with you and your

:53:27. > :53:32.team because this is a ground-breaking moment in waiting

:53:33. > :53:36.for British gymnasts. That is the point, in waiting. There is a lot

:53:37. > :53:42.that can happen in these individual apparatus finals. We have the top

:53:43. > :53:46.eight gymnasts from qualification. Basically we will see four finals.

:53:47. > :53:49.We have got the men's floor first with British interest from Max

:53:50. > :53:53.Whitlock and Kristian Thomas. That is the first one up. Then it'll be

:53:54. > :53:58.the women's vault, then it is that Great Britain showdown on pommel

:53:59. > :54:01.horse. That will be at 7:30pm between Max Whitlock and Louis

:54:02. > :54:06.Smith. Then we round things up with the women's bars. Hitting alongside

:54:07. > :54:12.me to help talks with the action we have Dan Keating is an Beth Tweddle.

:54:13. > :54:15.Let's just talk, if we can come about that pommel horse which is

:54:16. > :54:20.coming up at 730. We have got this two pronged attack. Max Whitlock was

:54:21. > :54:25.the highest qualifier, Louis Smith, second highest. If they can just go

:54:26. > :54:29.through their routines it's all going to come down to difficulty.

:54:30. > :54:32.Together they are going to try and achieve a first thing, we've never

:54:33. > :54:38.had an Olympic champion in gymnastics. No. They both had two

:54:39. > :54:42.the highest court in this competition in that final. If they

:54:43. > :54:46.can get through their routine I have no doubt it will be one into. Then

:54:47. > :54:52.it really is about him is going to make history. Thinking of the floor,

:54:53. > :54:58.this will actually be Max Whitlock's 19 routine. By the time he goes up

:54:59. > :55:02.onto the pommel horse, he will be on routine number 20. We will see him

:55:03. > :55:06.compete on floor, the gymnasts will be out at six o'clock. Mentally, how

:55:07. > :55:13.will he have been preparing for today? I think they've had an 8-10

:55:14. > :55:18.week build-up and have been practising for this. They will have

:55:19. > :55:20.known Max will be doing 19 or 20 routines and they will have

:55:21. > :55:24.practised this over the last few weeks to make sure he was fit enough

:55:25. > :55:28.in case he did make all of the finals. He's already got a medal in

:55:29. > :55:32.the all-round which will take the pressure of getting a medal today so

:55:33. > :55:38.he can really just go for it. Beth, is that how you think you will be

:55:39. > :55:42.thinking coming into this? I think the pressure will be off in the

:55:43. > :55:45.sense of wanting to take home an Olympic medal. But where all

:55:46. > :55:49.gymnasts, we've all been in that position where you don't want to

:55:50. > :55:53.give away that last chance. He will be fighting, definitely. He will

:55:54. > :55:57.want to come home with an Olympic medal and obviously we would love it

:55:58. > :56:03.to be for one of those two to be the top spot. We are world leaders now,

:56:04. > :56:07.Great Britain, as far as pommel horse is concerned. Dan, you were

:56:08. > :56:10.one of the gymnasts who started this off a few years ago with Louis

:56:11. > :56:16.Smith. The trains to gather. There was only 3-over 16 on this Olympic

:56:17. > :56:21.cycle and Dan is one of them as well as Louis Smith and Max Whitlock. To

:56:22. > :56:27.have all of this competition in the gym, give us an idea of how we got

:56:28. > :56:31.to where we are. My coach, his favourite piece of apparatus is the

:56:32. > :56:34.pommel horse. He had an idea when we were younger. He wanted to create

:56:35. > :56:39.the best pommel horse workers in the world. He made us do thousands of

:56:40. > :56:44.thousands of circles every single day. That was what has built up the

:56:45. > :56:48.endurance. We had to do it different areas of the pommel horse. We can

:56:49. > :56:53.circle anywhere that pommel horse which made it so easy for us to

:56:54. > :56:57.learn new elements. From then you continue to build your difficulty.

:56:58. > :57:02.Louis Smith and Max Whitlock have two of the hardest routines in the

:57:03. > :57:07.world. We will just have a little look through Max's routine first of

:57:08. > :57:11.all. Give us an idea of where the difficulty is being built up here.

:57:12. > :57:16.You need to have a sieve element, which is what you see there. That is

:57:17. > :57:21.a special requirement. Here on the one hand, he did a double Russian.

:57:22. > :57:25.That is two times round. Today he will be hoping to get three of those

:57:26. > :57:33.to get the maximum high school which is a 7.4. That is a huge element

:57:34. > :57:37.worth value and that will be what Lewis is looking to put into his

:57:38. > :57:40.routine to increase his star value. You will see in the pommel horse

:57:41. > :57:48.final quite a few of the break dancing elements to try to get that

:57:49. > :57:52.high score value. When you go up into the dismount you need to try

:57:53. > :57:58.and show no struggle, and stick the landing. That was the routine which

:57:59. > :58:01.one Max Whitlock the World Championship title. Louis was doing

:58:02. > :58:06.everything he could to pack in the difficulty. What's different about

:58:07. > :58:12.Louis' routine as he had to two handstands at the start. He finds

:58:13. > :58:16.that easy and it is probably one of the best in the world that I've

:58:17. > :58:22.seen. What's different as well as he only does the one Russian on one

:58:23. > :58:27.handle. Where Max has it on start value is he will go around three

:58:28. > :58:35.times. This is the element where he fell off in the team final. For him

:58:36. > :58:41.to try and go for the Gold Medal he will have to put it in today. That

:58:42. > :58:47.is the point, Beth, because does he go all out for gold or to try to get

:58:48. > :58:51.a fourth Olympic medal? It's a very difficult decision and that is one

:58:52. > :58:55.he will have been having with his coaches making that decision. Do I

:58:56. > :59:02.play safe and guarantee a medal or do I go all out? It is a big battle

:59:03. > :59:05.between himself and Max. There is one or two tenths can really make

:59:06. > :59:12.the difference between taking home a title and not even having a medal.

:59:13. > :59:15.What do you think, Dan? Knowing Louis, he had had a bronze in

:59:16. > :59:21.Beijing and a silver in London. He wants the gold medal. I think he's

:59:22. > :59:26.going to go for it, but his biggest routine, try to get the 16 and then

:59:27. > :59:29.watch the rest of the competitors. I doubt Max Whitlock at the moment

:59:30. > :59:36.will be thinking about pommel horse because he has a job on his hands in

:59:37. > :59:39.the men's floor final first. I'm sure we can see Max Whitlock and

:59:40. > :59:47.Kristian Thomas just walking around now to be introduced to the crowd.

:59:48. > :59:48.There is Kohei Uchimura as well. There is the top eight gymnasts from

:59:49. > :00:04.qualification. And the all-round champion, Kofi

:00:05. > :00:09.Rich Uemura. Let us talk about floor routines.

:00:10. > :00:18.What makes the perfect floor routine?

:00:19. > :00:22.With the men, they are looking for the tumbles, the twisting linked in

:00:23. > :00:25.double somersaults. They don't actually have to show a double

:00:26. > :00:30.somersault as they do with the women.

:00:31. > :00:37.Kenzo Shirai who turned up at the World Championships and did 22

:00:38. > :00:42.twists, everyone the same, they are all about twisting. A year later and

:00:43. > :00:50.he did a triple twisting somersaults to show he had that variety. There

:00:51. > :00:58.needs to be flare. It is fast moving, they had a certain time

:00:59. > :00:59.period. Kristian Thomas just being

:01:00. > :01:16.introduced, European floor champion. Arthur Mariano, the second-highest

:01:17. > :01:25.qualifier. This is Jacob Dalton.

:01:26. > :01:29.We can build difficulty to get higher scores. As far as losing

:01:30. > :01:34.marks is concerned on the floor, this comes down to the landing.

:01:35. > :01:39.It does, you need to stick all your landings, any step or jump you take

:01:40. > :01:44.will come off that execution score. The main target is not to fall and

:01:45. > :01:50.stay in the square. This is Samuel Mikulak who didn't

:01:51. > :01:52.have much fun in the team final. He stepped out quite a bit. This is

:01:53. > :02:02.about containing this energy. It is difficult, with that

:02:03. > :02:07.adrenaline. And you can hear the noise, it pumped you up and you want

:02:08. > :02:14.to get bit extra. But being out of control, that can be a difference

:02:15. > :02:19.between a medal and no medal. On the floor especially it is difficult to

:02:20. > :02:25.control the power. Dan, to give people at home and idea

:02:26. > :02:29.of how sprung the floor is. Underneath that floor, there are

:02:30. > :02:34.lots of spring coils which makes the floor so bouncy.

:02:35. > :02:41.That only came in, in the last Olympic cycle. To deal with the high

:02:42. > :02:50.elements and to increase difficulty, they have made it more bouncy.

:02:51. > :02:54.Uchimura is in the corner, his only individual apparatus finals. We

:02:55. > :02:58.could see some surprises from him. We have all seen some training

:02:59. > :03:01.videos where he does some unbelievable elements he doesn't

:03:02. > :03:06.actually have in his routine. It is his only final.

:03:07. > :03:10.We are ready for the men's Olympic final on the floor.

:03:11. > :03:21.Uchimura, 27 years old. The outstanding gymnast of his

:03:22. > :03:32.generation. He is out of the thought that. A deduction before he starts.

:03:33. > :03:42.He is usually almost perfect. -- out of the floor.

:03:43. > :03:47.So light, so fast. Super twist. Forwards and backwards. The Olympic

:03:48. > :03:51.all around champion. Double twisting, double tap back, showing

:03:52. > :04:00.us his skill at multiple somersaults Ahmed multiple twists. Such a

:04:01. > :04:09.smooth, classy gymnast. Everything is light. Being totally dominant in

:04:10. > :04:17.the world. Did you see that lovely kick out of the tuck position. Since

:04:18. > :04:23.2008, now, this is his last element in this Championships. Super triple

:04:24. > :04:31.twist. He has led his team to team gold, he took individual gold. Very

:04:32. > :04:45.successful Olympic Games for co-pay Uchimura. -- Kohei Uchimura.

:04:46. > :04:53.It has been a heavy schedule for him. It was just that 3.5 twists,

:04:54. > :05:02.you can count them, into the Ford 1.5. The just didn't manage to

:05:03. > :05:07.contain it. I haven't seen him do that very much at all. He got the

:05:08. > :05:11.measure of it on the next tumble. These gymnasts have come in from the

:05:12. > :05:18.training gym. They don't touch the apparatus, they get straight on and

:05:19. > :05:23.perform. I guess, after that first tumble, he reassessed how he needed

:05:24. > :05:34.to punch and land. The rest was wonderful.

:05:35. > :05:40.Kristian Thomas will be the fourth gymnast to go.

:05:41. > :05:42.You see him sitting down there. Arthur Mariano will be after

:05:43. > :06:03.Kristian Thomas. Now to a gymnast 30 years young,

:06:04. > :06:10.Diego Hypolito. Twice world champion. Last time he won the World

:06:11. > :06:14.Championships was 11 years ago but he has never won at the Olympics and

:06:15. > :06:21.what a story it would be the him to do in front of this crowd.

:06:22. > :06:27.Capable of 15.5 here, the score he got in the qualification.

:06:28. > :06:31.An unusual start, he cuts the corner off. But very good. Just a little

:06:32. > :06:44.shuffle. This is the big tumble. That is

:06:45. > :06:52.where the difficulty is crammed in. Connecting a double somersault into

:06:53. > :06:55.a full twist, that was a huge double pike Arabian, a double back

:06:56. > :07:03.somersaults with a half turn at the front and finish going forwards.

:07:04. > :07:04.There is the wide arm lift to handstand, fulfilling all those

:07:05. > :07:16.requirements. A big twisting combination down the

:07:17. > :07:24.side. Again, increasing the difficulty of every tumble.

:07:25. > :07:30.Another requirement with the roll on.

:07:31. > :07:35.Just the last tumble to come. This was where he came to grief in his

:07:36. > :07:38.last Olympic final. Keep concentrating. He does, a fantastic

:07:39. > :07:44.triple twist. He didn't need us to shout, he did

:07:45. > :07:51.it for us. Surely enough to go in front of

:07:52. > :07:58.Gooch Uemura ruff. What a relief -- Uchimura.

:07:59. > :08:04.For a long time, Hypolito has been a load gymnast for Brazil on the world

:08:05. > :08:08.stage. What a story, let us hope you can

:08:09. > :08:12.get a medal here. He has been world champion twice and

:08:13. > :08:16.never had an Olympic medal. He has always made a mistake. To do this

:08:17. > :08:21.kind of routine in front of a home crowd. For me, that should be right

:08:22. > :08:24.up there and will be tough to beat. He should be in with a chance for a

:08:25. > :08:30.medal. We will have to see the score.

:08:31. > :08:35.This is so original, two somersaults, punched the floor into

:08:36. > :08:41.another full twist. His awareness on landing is really special.

:08:42. > :08:48.It is. That is what has let him down in the past. He has done these big

:08:49. > :08:52.tumbles and bounced out, or slightly under judged it and put his hands

:08:53. > :08:56.down. He looks like he has been working on these landings in the

:08:57. > :09:01.past couple of years and has nailed that routine.

:09:02. > :09:06.Such a versatile gymnast, we have seen him produce so many different

:09:07. > :09:11.styles of routine. Sometimes with big double straits. But he found a

:09:12. > :09:15.formula that that suited him. With these specialists, the level of

:09:16. > :09:20.difficulty, there is so much jeopardy involved. Even the gymnasts

:09:21. > :09:28.are surprised. Look at that score! The highest

:09:29. > :09:35.floor school he has had at these Olympic Games. Is it enough? --

:09:36. > :09:43.score. His difficulty was 6.8. Great

:09:44. > :09:51.Britain's Matt -- Max Whitlock, the first of two finals for him today.

:09:52. > :09:58.Going for a medal. A steely look in his eyes. He lists

:09:59. > :10:05.with great control into the two twisting somersaults. This is

:10:06. > :10:11.important. 3.5, beautifully performed. Now he can settle into

:10:12. > :10:16.his favourite pommel work. This is almost like break dancing,

:10:17. > :10:21.there is the flare which everyone remembers. A couple of other

:10:22. > :10:26.gymnasts do it but this is by far the best in the world.

:10:27. > :10:36.He has made sure he held that handstand so there are no

:10:37. > :10:45.deductions. A big 2.5 twisting somersaults

:10:46. > :10:51.backwards into a 1.5 twist. There is the 1.5 twisting roll out

:10:52. > :10:54.tumble, he has taken a breath, he knows he just needs to land this

:10:55. > :11:00.tumble. Come on, up high, good twisting,

:11:01. > :11:04.fabulous landing. What a performance from Max Whitlock.

:11:05. > :11:07.He floated his way through that routine, incredibly neat.

:11:08. > :11:12.The best routine I have seen him do this Olympic Games.

:11:13. > :11:24.He landings were unbelievable, hardly any deductions. I think that

:11:25. > :11:29.will be quite a high score. 15.533 is the score to beat.

:11:30. > :11:34.The first somersault was low but he rose on the second one which is

:11:35. > :11:39.important. The 3.5 twist into another

:11:40. > :11:41.somersaults with half turn and a stuck landing which is what the

:11:42. > :11:58.judges are looking for. He is so clean on his twists.

:11:59. > :12:04.Landing with real position, arms locked in the right position. His

:12:05. > :12:12.coach from South Essex gymnastic club, absolutely delighted with the

:12:13. > :12:17.performance. So, 15 .533 the top score for

:12:18. > :12:25.Hypolito, will Max go ahead? It is a huge score!

:12:26. > :12:31.That then at the moment is the benchmark.

:12:32. > :12:37.That is some score, especially when you have seen a Brazilian in Brazil

:12:38. > :12:41.score 0.1 less. Still some big hitters to come in

:12:42. > :12:49.this final. Next onto the floor for Great

:12:50. > :12:57.Britain, it is Kristian Thomas. Last year's European champion.

:12:58. > :13:05.Beautiful execution, beautiful landing. The whip into the pike

:13:06. > :13:11.double Arabian. Lovely control.

:13:12. > :13:15.He hasn't got the highest art school in this condition but his execution

:13:16. > :13:23.is always within the top. Again, there, showing... But a small

:13:24. > :13:29.deduction on the landing. The unique hand spring roll out. Now

:13:30. > :13:30.going into his pommel work. Making sure he is fulfilling the

:13:31. > :13:47.requirement. Slight wobble getting up there but

:13:48. > :13:57.he managed to save it and hold the handstand. Now for his final tumble.

:13:58. > :14:05.Very difficult forward landing here. Double Arabian, he kicks it out

:14:06. > :14:07.beautifully. A fantastic performance from the Team GB captain, Kristian

:14:08. > :14:12.Thomas. So many years, Great Britain have

:14:13. > :14:15.relied on his constituency and his general steadiness. And how he

:14:16. > :14:20.manages to perform these routines under such pressure, it is

:14:21. > :14:24.mind-boggling. But he has been a stalwart for his team.

:14:25. > :14:29.Yes, he is our team captain and he really is a team leader. With this

:14:30. > :14:33.routine, you always know he is going to deliver. That is why we can rely

:14:34. > :14:40.on him so much. Great to have someone like that in team.

:14:41. > :14:44.He has got an uncanny awareness of where the floor is. Because he had

:14:45. > :14:51.not got such a high start school he knows he has to be nearly perfect.

:14:52. > :14:54.Good to see Kristian Thomas, he is coached by Andrei Popoff and

:14:55. > :14:55.Michelle Bradley at our world gymnastic club. A great way to round

:14:56. > :15:06.off his Olympics. We know that his dad and fiance are

:15:07. > :15:10.watching. He managed to win them tickets, they landed after the men's

:15:11. > :15:13.team final say this is a great opportunity for them to see him

:15:14. > :15:18.perform to his very best at the Olympics. How kind will be judges

:15:19. > :15:32.be? Keep an eye on that execution. Dan was saying that the difficulty

:15:33. > :15:41.wasn't as high as the others. Max one out against the other two

:15:42. > :15:49.performer on execution. The score is in, 8.858. 15.058 as a total score.

:15:50. > :15:53.These days, gymnasts get extra marks for doing a more difficult routine

:15:54. > :15:59.and you add a difficulty to the execution to get the total. The

:16:00. > :16:07.second Brazilian in this man's floor final, Arthur Mariano. This is his

:16:08. > :16:14.only Olympic apparatus final. He was 17th in the all-round just a few

:16:15. > :16:20.days ago. And the Brazilian gymnasts have performed fabulously here. A

:16:21. > :16:25.lovely double front punch. We saw him warming it up. That was a lot

:16:26. > :16:31.better than in warm up. Double twisting back somersault with a back

:16:32. > :16:36.out. Two somersaults, two twist. He had to settle himself now, Dan. I

:16:37. > :16:40.think he has added enough on the qualification so his start score

:16:41. > :16:42.will be a couple of attempts higher. He is showing he will be trying to

:16:43. > :16:59.fight today to get a medal. There is a combination tumble again,

:17:00. > :17:05.sticking the landing. There's not many errors in this routine. They

:17:06. > :17:11.really pacey routine. He's crammed in lots of difficulty. He has. Lots

:17:12. > :17:25.of tumbles. I think this is not going into his final one. -- is now

:17:26. > :17:29.going. What a great routine that was. The atmosphere in here, that

:17:30. > :17:35.stadium has just erupted. They know it was a good routine as well. He's

:17:36. > :17:39.not started the acrobatics yet, either! What a show he has just

:17:40. > :17:45.pulled off. That was an immense performance with the home crowd. So

:17:46. > :17:52.he's added more difficulty. He really is going all out. His

:17:53. > :17:56.qualification difficulty was only 6.4. Though it was down a little

:17:57. > :18:03.bit. That will no doubt increase a couple of tenths with the extra

:18:04. > :18:08.difficulty he has put in. Here was the first tumble. They actually lose

:18:09. > :18:12.deductions for the second somersault is not being as high as the first

:18:13. > :18:24.one. He made sure that he went right up. That was great. Double twist

:18:25. > :18:30.straight and then hike over. -- pike over. There's not many of those that

:18:31. > :18:35.you see nowadays, it was great to see. This was a very tough vinyl.

:18:36. > :18:42.The gymnasts have had two doze off all. We have had days of -- this was

:18:43. > :18:50.a very tough final. The gymnasts have had two days off. We have had

:18:51. > :18:54.two days of trampolining. Coming here and producing what you know you

:18:55. > :18:57.can achieve is quite something at this level. Especially in front of a

:18:58. > :19:10.home crowd. Whatever score comes up, he noted given a great performance

:19:11. > :19:16.and that is what you want to do. 15.433 for Mariano. Max Whitlock for

:19:17. > :19:24.Great Britain currently leads with Diego Hypolito in second. Arthur

:19:25. > :19:29.Mariano is in third. It is now time for the second highest qualifier,

:19:30. > :19:32.this is Jacob Dalton. 24 years old. He has got a silver medal from the

:19:33. > :19:41.World Championships in this piece of apparatus. The highest score that he

:19:42. > :19:46.is posted in Rio is 15.6. So it's going to be very, very close indeed.

:19:47. > :19:55.Just a reminder, Max Whitlock for Great Britain leads on 15.633. The

:19:56. > :19:57.American men are a little disappointed with their team

:19:58. > :20:02.performance. They will want to put it right in these finals. Just a hop

:20:03. > :20:10.on that very unusual double straight with half twist. And another half

:20:11. > :20:17.will stop good high tumbling. -- and another half. Good high tumbling. He

:20:18. > :20:21.needs to be clean. He will be hoping to finish off with some stuck

:20:22. > :20:27.landings. How long do they have to hold this for? A minimum of two

:20:28. > :20:33.seconds. A lot of gymnasts will hold for three just to make sure it gets

:20:34. > :20:42.counted. It looked like he was slightly going to under rotate that

:20:43. > :20:48.then, but managed to save it. Again, a really nice roll-out tumble. So he

:20:49. > :20:56.calms himself ready for this final tumble. It has to be perfect. Here

:20:57. > :21:02.it goes. Triple twist, little scurry back. They were only small

:21:03. > :21:11.deductions, but they were there. Small deductions indeed, but a

:21:12. > :21:16.relatively high start score. Is he going to be able to Betamax with

:21:17. > :21:21.that? He has a high start score and there was quite a few deductions on

:21:22. > :21:25.landing. I think it will be close. If you look at max's routine, he

:21:26. > :21:33.stuck quite if you tumbles within it. I think it will be close but I

:21:34. > :21:35.think Max might just take it. It's so difficult for these gymnasts to

:21:36. > :21:42.control the landings, especially when they have only just felt the

:21:43. > :21:47.floor beforehand. It is only in the finals they come out cold, as it

:21:48. > :21:51.were, and get straight on with the performance. Usually you get a

:21:52. > :21:56.three-minute touch, 32nd touch, to remind yourself of the particular

:21:57. > :22:02.bounds of the floor. -- 30 second touch. Here you really have to be

:22:03. > :22:06.confident you know your landings. A floor is different in the

:22:07. > :22:10.competition arena from the warm up gym because the warm up gym isn't on

:22:11. > :22:19.a podium wearers in the competition it can be quite a lot bouncier.

:22:20. > :22:26.Max hangs on in anticipation. If the score that comes up is lower than

:22:27. > :22:32.his, he will be guaranteed a medal in this floor final with two

:22:33. > :22:44.gymnasts left to go. We've seen that look on Max's face a few times these

:22:45. > :22:48.championships. Its 15.133. Jacob Dalton goes into fit which means

:22:49. > :22:58.that Great Britain's Max Whitlock is guaranteed a medal in this men's

:22:59. > :23:02.floor final! And that is a first. You can see from his face there, he

:23:03. > :23:06.looks happy. A smile broke out when he knew he was still top of the

:23:07. > :23:15.leaderboard. A British man has never been top of the podium on floor. We

:23:16. > :23:21.have only been on the floor and -- we have only been on the podium and

:23:22. > :23:24.pummels horse in fact. It is time for the twisting prints, Kenzo

:23:25. > :23:31.Shirai. He has the highest difficulty. Count the twist. If you

:23:32. > :23:38.can! How about that, three and a half into two more. Such an exciting

:23:39. > :23:44.performer. And that was three twist and three somersaults. Let you

:23:45. > :23:48.counting, Dan. What amazes me about this routine is the difficulty. He's

:23:49. > :23:57.very and tidy. His landings are almost perfect. That is why he has

:23:58. > :24:02.been World Champion twice. There is the punch vault into the... Oh, I

:24:03. > :24:05.watched in warm up when he was having trouble with that. He managed

:24:06. > :24:18.to stay on his feet. Well, that is probably the most

:24:19. > :24:23.surprising performance. Two tumbles where he has started. That's not

:24:24. > :24:28.what we've come to expect at all. Not at all. And I think from a

:24:29. > :24:33.tumble before, he wanted to stick it but he took a big deduction there.

:24:34. > :24:39.There is the quad twist. There was a lot of deductions on that. He will

:24:40. > :24:49.need all of those prayers. The two-time World Champion has faulted.

:24:50. > :24:54.The question is will it be enough for 15.633, bearing in mind that he

:24:55. > :24:57.has such a high difficulty value? I think if he had only made one

:24:58. > :25:01.mistake in the routine it would still be close. But because there

:25:02. > :25:09.was two mistakes I don't think he's going to be enough to put him into

:25:10. > :25:16.the lead. But with a deep landing. His hips didn't touch the floor, but

:25:17. > :25:23.it will be a 0.5 deduction. That is more, that is probably 0.8 off.

:25:24. > :25:31.Maybe even a hallmark. He looked so secure. -- maybe even a whole mark.

:25:32. > :25:42.He finishes with four twists which no one else is doing. It's named

:25:43. > :25:46.after him, it is named the Shirai. There are 22 and a half twist in

:25:47. > :25:50.this routine, but his landings weren't there today. He just asked

:25:51. > :25:55.to hope that the judges will be kind to him. Will it be enough to get

:25:56. > :26:03.into the top three? At the moment the top score is 14.33, that is

:26:04. > :26:13.bronze medal. His start score was 7.6. At the moment it's Brazil in

:26:14. > :26:18.second and third with Great Britain in first. There is a lot of debate

:26:19. > :26:23.about whether or not he's going to be given the difficulty and how much

:26:24. > :26:26.it should be deducted for execution. I think he will be given the

:26:27. > :26:29.difficulty because each of the elements he landed. It's really

:26:30. > :26:35.whether the execution score goes down. And you've got to remember his

:26:36. > :26:41.start was the only one in the sevens and it was a 7.6 so it does have

:26:42. > :26:43.room for error. And that is why sometimes you gamble with the

:26:44. > :26:54.difficulty because you're giving yourself a head start. 15.366,

:26:55. > :26:59.Shirai is out of the medals. Execution, that is what has cost

:27:00. > :27:07.him. We now wrap up this floor final with the highest qualifier. This

:27:08. > :27:11.gymnastic score 14.866 in the team final. Can he continue with all a

:27:12. > :27:19.bit energy and power? He knows that the door is open. He is capable of

:27:20. > :27:25.15.8. At the moment Great Britain's Max Whitlock lead this Olympic floor

:27:26. > :27:33.final with a score of 15.633. That is the score to BT for Olympic gold.

:27:34. > :27:40.Max Whitlock is guaranteed at least a silver. Gymnasts number eight, of

:27:41. > :27:47.the eight top qualifiers. With all the pressures on his shoulders. But

:27:48. > :27:54.the Americans love pressure. Two a double front. But that was a deep

:27:55. > :28:03.landing. -- two and a half into a double front. You can say it's... I

:28:04. > :28:09.honestly think now that Max is going to win. He's got to finish the

:28:10. > :28:15.routine. They have just been little errors. He has got a lot of

:28:16. > :28:20.difficulty. But the feat came away from him again. He was supposed to

:28:21. > :28:25.do a double twist then as well so his start score will be down. It is

:28:26. > :28:29.amazing, the pressure on these gymnasts. Particularly when you go

:28:30. > :28:35.up eighth and you know you have to be virtually perfect. That was a

:28:36. > :28:44.nice roll-out. And the crowd are going wild because they know it's

:28:45. > :28:48.medals for Brazil as well. A nice triple twist to finish but the

:28:49. > :28:51.damage should be done. What an amazing floor final. We didn't

:28:52. > :28:59.expect this for an outcome with Great Britain winning. Winning! Wow,

:29:00. > :29:06.and Brazil, they take silver and bronze. What a story. Great Britain

:29:07. > :29:11.has its first ever Olympic champion. We didn't expect it to come bit

:29:12. > :29:15.early. Obviously, the score is not in. Dan, you are experienced enough

:29:16. > :29:24.to know that that will not be enough to take gold. Honestly, I would say

:29:25. > :29:27.that Max has got this. And what a story for Diego Hypolito and for

:29:28. > :29:32.Arthur Mariano. Hypolito has been on the scene for a long, long time.

:29:33. > :29:36.Successful in the World Championships with two golds but

:29:37. > :29:41.never has he got an Olympic medal. And he's done it, he's got a silver.

:29:42. > :29:45.Mariano will take the bronze that they will just have too guaranteed

:29:46. > :29:51.with the judges score before we can get confirmation. There was the

:29:52. > :29:55.first step out. Once you've done that as a gymnast you know you are

:29:56. > :30:03.up against it. The second mistake was easy to come.

:30:04. > :30:13.Well, Max thinks he's there. STUDIO: we would like to welcome

:30:14. > :30:17.viewers on BBC One. You are witnessing what could be history at

:30:18. > :30:24.this very moment. We are awaiting the results of the last gymnast in

:30:25. > :30:27.the men's floor competition. Max Whitlock is waiting for the result

:30:28. > :30:33.of some Mikulak of the United States. For those of you on BBC Two,

:30:34. > :30:36.our coverage continues on BBC One. Please switch over for what could be

:30:37. > :30:45.a defining moment for British gymnastics. Will it be gold?

:30:46. > :30:53.COMMENTATOR: sai Mikulak is down in eighth. Great Britain's Max Whitlock

:30:54. > :30:56.is the floor Olympic champion. Diego Hypolito take silver in front of his

:30:57. > :31:02.home crowd for Brazil with his team-mate in bronze. It is GB first,

:31:03. > :31:03.Brazil, second and
