:02:02. > :02:08.Another fantastic day, and really a weekend to remember for British
:02:08. > :02:13.sport, ending with two more gold medals. Great Britain now have 16
:02:13. > :02:16.goals, just three short of the total in Beijing. Yesterday it was
:02:16. > :02:21.Andy Murray and Ben Ainslie who topped the podium. Could they be
:02:21. > :02:24.more of the same today? In gymnastics, Beth Tweddle is
:02:25. > :02:31.hoping to bow out with a gold. She was 4th in Beijing, but she is
:02:31. > :02:36.looking good in London. Olympic kayak champion Tim Brabants
:02:36. > :02:43.begins his title defence today, so could Eton Dorney bring more gold
:02:43. > :02:45.for Great Britain? Dai Greene is doing it the hard way. We look at
:02:45. > :02:55.whether the world and Commonwealth champion might spring a surprise in
:02:55. > :02:58.
:02:58. > :03:08.And that's not all from the stadium. Tiffany Porter and Andrew Ossa G R
:03:08. > :03:11.
:03:11. > :03:18.So, here is how we take you through it all. It is off to the athletics
:03:18. > :03:26.at 10am. But before that, we are back at Eton Dorney at 9:30am. At
:03:26. > :03:31.2pm, the gymnastics gets under way. More track cycling at the Beller
:03:31. > :03:38.Drome at 4pm, Victoria Pendleton and Jason Kenny in action there.
:03:38. > :03:44.And tonight at the athletics, the men's 400m and women's pole vault.
:03:44. > :03:48.Dai Greene goes in the 400m hurdles. And it was quite a weekend in the
:03:48. > :03:54.stadium behind me. First, Saturday's glorious night for
:03:54. > :03:57.British athletics, and then last night, the Big One, the men's 100m.
:03:57. > :04:05.All the doubts about whether using bolt could do it suddenly
:04:05. > :04:15.disappeared. -- Usain Bolt. This Stadium has just come to life.
:04:15. > :04:20.
:04:20. > :04:27.I wonder why it! It is exciting Powell gets a cracking start, and
:04:27. > :04:34.Justin Gatlin is looking good. Oh, my word! He was looking at them as
:04:34. > :04:40.if to say, keep up! This is the if to say, keep up! This is the
:04:40. > :04:49.second semi-final. Bolt got a decent start, and so did Dwain
:04:49. > :04:55.Chambers. Here comes Usain Bolt, really turn it on. 9.87. Dare I say
:04:55. > :05:02.it, clowning around just a little. And now for the third semi-final,
:05:02. > :05:10.the athletes are ready. Not the best of starts from Tyson Gay.
:05:10. > :05:18.Yohan Blake and Tyson Gay pulling away now. Blake is going to win it.
:05:18. > :05:28.9.85, game on. I came third in the semi-final at the Olympics. That
:05:28. > :05:57.
:05:57. > :06:05.has run under 10 seconds this year. the four fastest men of all time
:06:05. > :06:15.are in the same Olympic final. They come to their marks, the moment of
:06:15. > :06:26.
:06:26. > :06:32.blocks. But he is getting into his stride alongside Justin Gatlin. He
:06:32. > :06:40.has won the gold! 9.64. The champion becomes a legend. Why did
:06:40. > :06:45.we ever, ever, ever doubt the brilliance of Usain Bolt? I was
:06:45. > :06:51.slightly worried about my start. I think I sat in the blocks a little
:06:51. > :06:56.bit. It wasn't the best reaction in the world. But my coach said, stop
:06:56. > :07:00.worrying about the start, the best part of your race is at the end.
:07:00. > :07:06.That is where you rule. So I stopped worrying about the start
:07:06. > :07:11.and executed it. What do you say to all the doubters? People can talk,
:07:11. > :07:21.all they can do is talk. When it comes to the championships, this is
:07:21. > :07:22.
:07:22. > :07:25.His place in history is now assured. Colin Jackson, you were there last
:07:26. > :07:30.night. And there were lots of doubters, we were talking this time
:07:30. > :07:33.yesterday, not sure he would pull that off. And the good reason for
:07:33. > :07:39.that is because of the opposition he was up against, the best
:07:39. > :07:43.sprinters we have seen on the planet were all assembled in at
:07:43. > :07:49.100m. And him losing the Jamaican championships caused a little bit
:07:49. > :07:54.of upset. People were questioning whether he would deliver the goods,
:07:54. > :07:59.but he is a championship man, and he proved it again. Slightly slow
:07:59. > :08:05.out of the blocks, but he just races to the finish. He is a tall
:08:05. > :08:08.man, and it takes him a bit of time to unfold. What he was working on
:08:08. > :08:13.previously was to try to start as if he were shorter man, and that is
:08:13. > :08:18.not conducive to his style of running. Once he gets up bright and
:08:18. > :08:24.get into his flow, he becomes unstoppable. Once he hits that 30-
:08:24. > :08:28.metre mark, about now, he starts to pull away from the field. That is
:08:28. > :08:33.why he is the great champion that he is over this distance. Overall,
:08:33. > :08:40.this was a fantastic field. Seven out of the eight men ran under 10
:08:40. > :08:46.seconds. The quality was breathtaking. Bizarrely enough, the
:08:46. > :08:51.man who didn't go under 10 seconds was Asafa Powell, the one who has
:08:51. > :09:00.run under 10 seconds the most. It looked like he tweaked his groin a
:09:00. > :09:04.little bit, which is a bit of a worry for the 4x100m later. Yohan
:09:04. > :09:09.Blake, the so-called Beast, the one we were talking about most in the
:09:09. > :09:15.competition, is he the one who you think will be the new Usain Bolt of
:09:15. > :09:21.the future? No doubt about it. He is the Prince at the moment. He
:09:21. > :09:26.went into this race trying to beat the king. A couple of years' time,
:09:26. > :09:32.I think things could change. think his time will come? His time
:09:32. > :09:36.will come. You also positive about the British sprinters. None of them
:09:36. > :09:41.made it into the final, but Adam Gemili, young and new to sprinting,
:09:41. > :09:47.both he and Dwain Chambers had good times. They went up and beyond
:09:47. > :09:54.anything we expected them to do. Dwain Chambers ran 10.02, the
:09:54. > :09:58.fastest time in the UK. At Adam Gemili, an incredibly mature
:09:58. > :10:03.performance for a young man. He wasn't frightened to take on the
:10:03. > :10:06.greatest sprinters in the world, and he just missed by a jiffy. A
:10:06. > :10:16.fall the blossom British athletics, and last night was a disappointing
:10:16. > :10:22.
:10:22. > :10:25.one for Christine Ohuruogu, beaten Christine Ohuruogu do It Again?
:10:25. > :10:32.Richards-Ross almost stumbles a little out of the block, but is
:10:32. > :10:41.quickly up. That is a fast start from the American. Khyra Ishaq has
:10:41. > :10:46.started well as well. The Russian goes past Sanya Richards Ross, but
:10:46. > :10:55.Christine Ohuruogu has really attacked his first 200. Richards-
:10:55. > :11:01.Ross starts to get moving, and so does Montsho. Rory is on the
:11:01. > :11:04.outside. There are five or six of them here. Sanya Richards Ross is
:11:04. > :11:11.coming through, Christine Ohuruogu is coming again. Can she get there
:11:11. > :11:17.this time? Will she make it? Sanya Richards Ross takes the gold.
:11:17. > :11:22.Christine Ohuruogu, a sterling effort to get the silver. Oh, for a
:11:22. > :11:31.moment I thought it was going to happen all over again, just like
:11:31. > :11:39.four years ago. But Sanya Richards Ross is a worthy champion. She is a
:11:39. > :11:46.great 400m runner. And the silver to Christine Ohuruogu. What can you
:11:46. > :11:49.say about Christine? Every time, saves her best for the Olympics,
:11:49. > :11:54.for the World Championships. Forget all the other races, this is the
:11:54. > :12:01.one that matters to her, and she gets the best out of herself again.
:12:01. > :12:10.Only ever runs under 50 seconds in major finals. Hats off to Sanya
:12:10. > :12:15.Richards Ross. Your reaction at the end, Christine? I was stunned. I
:12:15. > :12:24.just, I don't know. I was heartbroken, actually. I was
:12:24. > :12:30.heartbroken, I really was. To lose your title like that, it was tough.
:12:30. > :12:36.But you know, Sanya is a worthy competitor, and she ran a good race.
:12:36. > :12:39.I have to be happy with what I got. It could have been worse. You were
:12:39. > :12:44.charging down at home straight, it look like it could have been
:12:44. > :12:49.Beijing all over again. I know, but I tightened up. I could feel my
:12:49. > :12:54.shoulders lifting. It is really hard to control when you are under
:12:54. > :13:00.fatigue. I thought I still had some time, but the line came too soon,
:13:00. > :13:06.and I thought, no, it is gone. I came here for one thing only, to
:13:06. > :13:16.continue my reign as Olympic Cham, so it was, I'm just a bit
:13:16. > :13:21.She is an Olympic silver-medallist, but clearly she is disappointed.
:13:21. > :13:25.Yes, she hoped to defend her title. She knew she was running into great
:13:25. > :13:29.form, and history has showed us that she does produce the goods
:13:29. > :13:34.when it matters. See you can see why she was a little disappointed.
:13:34. > :13:38.But you can see why we think she did a tremendous job overall. But
:13:38. > :13:43.the emotion is hers. contribution to British athletics
:13:43. > :13:49.has been significant. Hers was the one British gold in Beijing that we
:13:49. > :13:53.were so proud of, but look at us this year. Yes, it gave us all hope
:13:53. > :13:58.that we can produce great athletes later on, and the magic certainly
:13:59. > :14:03.happened. Christine is still going to be a real inspiration. She has
:14:03. > :14:07.been there and done it a couple of times, so she has to take that
:14:07. > :14:12.responsibility now. Not sure how she will feel about being a
:14:12. > :14:18.matriarch! De big focus today is going to be on the hurdlers.
:14:18. > :14:23.Later tonight, Dai Greene will be in action. This morning, it is all
:14:23. > :14:31.about the form. We asked a former world champion and that women's
:14:31. > :14:35.110m hurdles to explain just how it To win this event, there are loads
:14:35. > :14:39.of different factors that an athlete needs to get right, and
:14:39. > :14:44.every section of the race happens so quickly that one small mistake
:14:44. > :14:49.warm make the difference at the finish line. On average, it takes a
:14:49. > :14:54.good male athlete about 0.3 of a second to Clear a hurdle, and about
:14:55. > :14:59.0.7 of a second to run between them. The women go slightly quicker,
:14:59. > :15:03.because the men have their hurdles higher, about up to their belly
:15:03. > :15:11.buttons. The distance between the hurdles are further apart. It is
:15:11. > :15:16.about being a consistent level of sent a body mass. If an athlete
:15:16. > :15:22.keeps their head at a consistent height during the race you can see
:15:22. > :15:26.this. The way a race can be won is in a landing, how long it takes to
:15:26. > :15:30.get the leading leg down and start running again. The backward
:15:30. > :15:37.movement of the lake acts as a braking force, so athletes need to
:15:37. > :15:47.get it down quick and get moving. Do that and there will be a massive
:15:47. > :15:50.
:15:50. > :15:56.There you have it. The masterclass from someone who really does know
:15:56. > :15:59.how to do it. Who should we be looking out for? Sally Pearson is
:15:59. > :16:04.the world champion, she is the fastest person here at this moment
:16:04. > :16:08.in time. She has got a great technique. On this lightning-fast
:16:08. > :16:13.track, I am wondering how far she can actually get to the world
:16:13. > :16:17.record. She was not too far off it at the world championships and I am
:16:17. > :16:21.thinking this track is a bit fast than she has arrived in better form.
:16:21. > :16:28.What about our British hurdlers? Tiffany Porter had a real struggle
:16:28. > :16:32.at Crystal Palace, we wondered if she would be injured. There are
:16:32. > :16:37.rumours saying she is coming around but when she arrived in good shape?
:16:37. > :16:41.We are hoping that she is healthy and can produce a good performance.
:16:41. > :16:46.We will know shortly. Some people thought Jessica Ennis might end up
:16:46. > :16:53.competing, Sheikh did not say until after the heptathlon if that was
:16:53. > :16:57.going to happen -- she did not so. She is exhausted, it takes a lot of
:16:57. > :17:01.effort to go through rounds and qualification rounds. Even though
:17:01. > :17:10.she is the 4th fastest hurdler and she is a hat and for it. We are
:17:10. > :17:16.disappointed not to see her go for it. She knows that I have been
:17:16. > :17:19.badgering her from a young girl to forget the heptathlon and
:17:19. > :17:23.concentrate on the hurdles, I am glad she did not listen to me. I
:17:23. > :17:29.think she could challenge the best in the world. She listened to
:17:29. > :17:32.Denise instead? Wise decision! are looking forward to seeing
:17:32. > :17:42.Tiffany Porter and Sally Pearson in action later. Tonight it will be
:17:42. > :17:47.Dai Greene hoping to add to his Gordon is a young sprinter with the
:17:47. > :17:57.hopes of a nation on his sprinters -- on his shoulders but as Matthew
:17:57. > :18:03.
:18:03. > :18:08.Pinsent found out, he is rather Trinidad is a small country. It is
:18:08. > :18:11.where I am from. I am all about showcasing it and showing that
:18:11. > :18:17.there is talent in Trinidad and we can be successful on the Olympic
:18:17. > :18:22.stage. Sometimes I wonder why am doing this and if it is going to
:18:22. > :18:27.work out. But I think in life you must make sacrifices. I give my
:18:27. > :18:36.best every day so that when my heat succumb, I am going to take it one
:18:36. > :18:42.run at the time. -- when my heats come. A shining star for Trinidad
:18:42. > :18:48.but Jay who Gordon is lucky to be here. Killer landslides top the
:18:48. > :18:53.list of the island's foibles. 2008 I was at home when a landslide
:18:53. > :19:00.came down, it destroyed the back half of the house. It stopped in
:19:00. > :19:07.the room I was in. It took a toll on the mentally, I started to feel
:19:07. > :19:11.scared being home by myself. I was happy and grateful for God. He
:19:11. > :19:15.paved a way for me. It is not easy, to come from a poor family and
:19:15. > :19:21.having to struggle through things. I am in a position now and making
:19:21. > :19:25.sure that we all live comfortable, in peace and unity. Trinidad's next
:19:25. > :19:31.socio-economic Hurdle is a familiar one. Poverty, and the crime that
:19:31. > :19:35.goes with it. People see Trinidad as a really small country. To have
:19:35. > :19:41.so much crime, it is really demotivated. If you come from a
:19:41. > :19:47.ghetto, you don't have to be doing things like you are from the ghetto.
:19:47. > :19:50.Most people who are into sports are actually some who came out of the
:19:50. > :19:58.ghetto and they are up some of the best people in society. One of the
:19:58. > :20:08.best things about being an athlete, the fame and the praise you'll be
:20:08. > :20:16.
:20:16. > :20:20.getting from citizens across the As you can see, this is my club-
:20:20. > :20:29.mate and one of my team-mates, to be training with for the 400 metres.
:20:29. > :20:36.There is a competitive rivalry I think we all look out for each
:20:36. > :20:40.other. We started from scratch and this is where we are today. We are
:20:40. > :20:45.all there in support, no matter if it might be physically, emotionally.
:20:45. > :20:49.We are there supporting each other one day at a time. My coach, my
:20:50. > :20:53.family, my club, they keep me grounded because I know where I
:20:54. > :21:03.came from. They are always there reminding me, remember where you
:21:03. > :21:11.Just thinking about the Olympics alone, amazing pictures coming into
:21:11. > :21:16.my head. I try to see myself in a dark place, seeking the light,
:21:16. > :21:20.trying to bring that out from inside of me. I know I am just 20
:21:21. > :21:30.but I am going to give it all, I am going to release my body and once I
:21:31. > :21:33.
:21:33. > :21:36.do that, the world is going to see It makes me think, we see these
:21:36. > :21:40.people compete in the stadium, we expect to see them at their best
:21:40. > :21:45.but we often have little idea of what they might have been through
:21:45. > :21:48.to get there. Many back stories are incredible. I met this young man in
:21:48. > :21:54.Trinidad, I work on a project called international integration
:21:54. > :21:57.with UNICEF. He was an incredible role model to the young people who
:21:57. > :22:02.were from disturb places in Trinidad, who were struggling with
:22:02. > :22:06.life generally. For him to come out and get on the world stage and
:22:06. > :22:12.produce something great, and have something for Trinidad to celebrate,
:22:12. > :22:16.perhaps, is a really good thing. Very impressive, an amazing story.
:22:16. > :22:23.Dai Greene is going to be in the finals of the 400 metres hurdles,
:22:23. > :22:27.he has not had an easy time. It was certainly a difficult semi-final
:22:27. > :22:30.and he is very disappointed with his performance. I still think he
:22:30. > :22:35.is at the world champion for a good reason, he can raise his game when
:22:35. > :22:38.it really matters. He has a very good lane draw, in lane three,
:22:38. > :22:42.which allows him to run freely. His technique should be perfect, he
:22:42. > :22:46.should be flawless all the way around. If he can get the final
:22:46. > :22:51.kick down the home straight, one of his strong points, he can bring
:22:51. > :22:56.home a medal. Explain what you mean about running freely. Because of
:22:56. > :23:06.the corner your technique is so much more boiled, you do not have
:23:06. > :23:13.
:23:14. > :23:18.We have to hope that the difficulty of getting into the final won't
:23:18. > :23:22.have unnerved him. He has one of the school had, he is down to earth,
:23:22. > :23:28.he knows what he's capable of delivering -- one of the school
:23:28. > :23:32.heads. He has run much faster than that this year. He will think to
:23:32. > :23:37.himself, if I can get close to the season's best, it will not be far
:23:37. > :23:39.off the gold medal, which is what we are all hoping for. He is the
:23:39. > :23:43.world champion and the captain of the athletics team, we really want
:23:43. > :23:48.to see him excel. You'll be off to the stadium shortly. You are
:23:48. > :23:58.getting a bit of a cult following online. Because of your very
:23:58. > :24:07.
:24:07. > :24:17.measured reactions to Olympic Come on, no! Mo! Come on! Yes! Oh,
:24:17. > :24:26.
:24:26. > :24:32.I always had you down as the cool, calm and collected type, I was
:24:32. > :24:37.entirely wrong. That was watching Mo Farah's rays. I am a big fan of
:24:37. > :24:41.athletics, which is obvious, that is why my voice is like this. I
:24:41. > :24:51.love the sport of athletics. When anybody from the British team is
:24:51. > :24:52.
:24:52. > :25:02.Last night, it was the big one and this is what it was like. Off he
:25:02. > :25:21.
:25:21. > :25:26.goes! Look at what's his name! Here It is fantastic. All of that energy
:25:26. > :25:31.and enthusiasm is infectious. You must be hoping this experience does
:25:31. > :25:36.something brilliant for British athletics. Oh, yes. I have
:25:36. > :25:42.thoroughly enjoyed it, the team has this great bars and they are
:25:42. > :25:46.thrilled to be there. Eidetic that you get off to the stadium
:25:46. > :25:51.otherwise Jonathan Edwards will be on my case. One of the Olympic
:25:51. > :25:56.venues we saw a lot was Eton Dorney. The regatta finished on Saturday
:25:56. > :26:01.but the lake is back in service As the home of the canoe sprint
:26:01. > :26:11.events. Britain has already had a gold and a silver in canoe slalom,
:26:11. > :26:20.can the sprinters follow suit? Here There are two distinct types of

:38:27. > :38:36.certainly didn't. Should we ever have doubted Usain Bolt? But do we

:38:44. > :38:49.interview, he gave little hint that he was feeling a little bit of

:38:54. > :39:00.that was in his mind. But he had been looking in good form, and he
:39:00. > :39:04.got better and better. That is when we really knew that Usain Bolt was

:39:26. > :39:26.
:39:26. > :39:31.did. They did. Justin Gatlin got out very well. But Usain Bolt had
:39:31. > :39:36.the fastest reaction time? Yes, that was a surprise, because he
:39:36. > :39:40.didn't think he got out. But he really did deliver here, with huge

:40:25. > :40:30.to the sport, and people relate to that. They think it has been the
:40:30. > :40:36.best thing to happen to us for a very long time. And what about
:40:36. > :40:42.Yohan Blake? Michael Johnson said last night he was the one under

:40:45. > :40:51.he only got that was jumping ship victory last year because Usain

:40:54. > :41:00.needed to come away with a good medal and a fantastic time, which

:41:04. > :41:09.beat Usain Bolt at that last year in Brussels. How do you see that
:41:09. > :41:16.going? An interesting question. We couldn't predict what was going to
:41:16. > :41:21.happen with the 100m. I think it is the same for the 200. Yohan Blake
:41:21. > :41:26.is probably tipped more for that. Plenty of qualification heats

:30:27. > :30:35.in London just gave the others a round about 13 seconds, for the
:30:35. > :30:41.fastest loser, as it stands. That will not bother Sally Pearson. In

:31:33. > :31:42.two groups of those. They are warming up just next to the start
:31:43. > :31:44.
:31:44. > :31:54.moments. This is where experience counts. You just need to relax,
:31:54. > :32:19.

:32:29. > :32:50.
:32:50. > :32:57.Sally Pearson. Let's see how fast to PS One but she is away. Sally

:33:10. > :33:13.think she can run slowly, to be honest. Well, we will have a look,
:33:13. > :33:17.and we cannot comment yet on what happened to her but she was going
:33:17. > :33:22.quite well. I have just been reminded that it is not a track
:33:22. > :33:26.record, that belongs to Jessica Ennis, but that is pretty quick.
:33:26. > :33:29.Yes, pretty quick, and Sally Pearson demonstrating why she has
:33:29. > :33:34.been the world leader for the last couple of years. Aggressive,
:33:34. > :33:39.beautiful technician. Her head does not move at all. She loves running
:33:39. > :33:42.and she is full of running. She is a great sprinter, remember. She
:33:42. > :33:47.actually crossed the line first in the Commonwealth Games and was then
:33:47. > :33:54.disqualified, but she is a great, great technician. She drives hard
:33:55. > :33:57.out of the box. She cites the hurdle quite well, looking for the
:33:57. > :34:03.first one and then gets into the groove and rhythm of the race as
:34:03. > :34:10.quickly as you possibly can. The first four hurdles she established
:34:10. > :34:14.some kind of tempo and pace, then 5, 6, 7, 8, she started to use the
:34:15. > :34:19.travel a bit more. You may be slightly fatigue, but you need to
:34:19. > :34:23.start using more power. But when you are as good as Sally Pearson,
:34:23. > :34:33.oh boy, you can relax all the way through to the line after you have
:34:33. > :34:33.
:34:33. > :34:43.made that final hurdle. She drifts in. She clears the barrier. Lovely
:34:43. > :34:48.
:34:49. > :34:58.pace she has, and that is something that stands her in good stead. I
:34:59. > :35:01.

:35:18. > :35:22.other side of the world. It really was special out there. I was really
:35:22. > :35:27.quite nervous during the race. But now I have got it out of the way
:35:27. > :35:31.and I can go in and fix my body for tomorrow. I know you have had so
:35:31. > :35:35.much pressure on your shoulders as the big Australian hoping track-
:35:35. > :35:41.and-field, but you are not shying away from it. There is nothing I
:35:41. > :35:45.can do about that. There is no more work to do and this is it. The
:35:45. > :35:49.first race out of the way, taking one at a time, and then tomorrow is
:35:49. > :35:59.another day at the office and I will see what I can do. Thanks for
:35:59. > :36:02.
:36:02. > :36:12.That was clearly a technical error. She will be disappointed. Four
:36:12. > :36:32.
:36:32. > :36:39.a little bit, and the crowd a roaring. Out towards the 65 metre
:36:39. > :36:46.line. Two athletes qualifying automatically already. Surprisingly

:39:04. > :39:10.left-hand side, she was so close to winning the Olympic title four
:39:10. > :39:15.years ago when she hit the 9th hurdle very heart and she lost
:39:15. > :39:22.momentum and eventually finished in 7th -- very hard. But she was very

:40:10. > :40:16.a repeat of the final four years three. Lolo Jones coming away, and
:40:16. > :40:23.now faster Hilton is all over the place. Lolo Jones coming through,
:40:23. > :40:28.George in second place. 12.68. And the Jamaican is in pain. A good run
:40:28. > :40:34.by Lolo Jones, but disappointing to see the Jamaican and grimacing as
:40:34. > :40:39.she crosses the line. Very disappointing. She absolutely
:40:39. > :40:44.collided with the hurdle and she is devastated. She arrived in
:40:44. > :40:48.reasonably good form, and this was going to be her final opportunity
:40:48. > :40:54.to make a medal at these Olympic Games. She had been in great shape
:40:54. > :40:59.all year and she is bitterly, bitterly disappointed. Let's have a

:41:49. > :41:54.and drags it over with her trailing leg. From then it is about recovery
:41:54. > :41:58.and she really knows that she has no chance of getting back with full

:42:45. > :42:52.Jamaican team, I suspect. Lolo qualified for the semi-finals in

:42:58. > :43:01.on the time behind Sally Pearson who is certainly most observers
:43:01. > :43:08.firm favourite for the title, but we saw happen in the last Olympic

:43:13. > :43:19.Harper who won it, who was down there in 12.75. Tiffany Porter on
:43:19. > :43:28.the first page of the fastest qualifiers. And the semi-finals
:43:28. > :43:34.Horrible to watch, and 37 years old, almost back into the shape of her

:43:40. > :43:44.can't believe it. I'm so disappointed. Her coach had to

:43:47. > :43:52.and encourage her back into the sport because she was done, she
:43:52. > :43:59.really was. And to see her Olympic dreams come crashing to a halt like
:43:59. > :44:02.that is pretty devastating. Like Colin said, she's normally such a

:44:12. > :44:24.
:44:24. > :44:28.Olympic chance. This is how it goes, in hurdles, generally, look at her

:44:33. > :44:37.sad, you know. She, you know, she sho knows she is coming to the end
:44:37. > :44:41.of her career, this was probably one of hvings her last chances to

:44:45. > :44:48.Let us go back to the first heat. Tiffany Porter came in with
:44:48. > :44:52.question mark, and from the interview we saw at the end,
:44:52. > :44:56.perhaps a real relief to get through that. Very much so. Really
:44:56. > :45:01.positive, after Crystal Palace, it was, yeah, really sad to see her
:45:01. > :45:07.react in this way, but a good hurdles race, clean, crisp, just
:45:07. > :45:11.tying up to the end a bit, but safely through, and good job by her.
:45:11. > :45:17.That has been her problem all season. She has run well to hurdle
:45:17. > :45:24.five and six, she seems to have lost her rhythm. I don't know what
:45:24. > :45:30.that is down to, she works very well, she is a great trainer, she
:45:30. > :45:36.trains really well. The speed endurance element still hasn't
:45:36. > :45:40.connected just yet. That raggedness will cost her in this competition,
:45:40. > :45:44.the other main competitors are very tidy and quick. The good thick for,
:45:44. > :45:48.she can go back to the village and think my body is fine, I can run
:45:48. > :45:51.hard in the semifinals, whereas there must have been an element of
:45:51. > :45:57.doubt. You are right. I think knowing you have a healthy body,
:45:57. > :46:00.that it won't let you down is a big relief, a big relief. Well done

:48:47. > :48:50.nearly as many entries in the men's 800 than in the 100 metres. It is
:48:50. > :48:56.tough qualifying. There are sticky heats here and the British athletes,
:48:56. > :49:02.as we look at Nigel Amos, are in heats two, three and five. Andrew
:49:02. > :49:08.Osagie next up. Amos is the world union champion, just 18-year-old.
:49:08. > :49:14.He has got Robinson, who is at the other end of his career, 36, but is
:49:14. > :49:19.still very dangerous, and the current European champion, sorry we

:49:37. > :49:42.we saw his time in the world, winning the world junior and
:49:42. > :49:51.running 1.43. Second fastest junior of all time. It will be interesting

:49:54. > :49:58.Lewandowksi is in a good position on the outside and moving through.
:49:58. > :50:02.This is a good way of getting the whole thing started. It will be

:50:18. > :50:23.dangerous. So is Robinson, he always looks good. Amos got himself
:50:23. > :50:32.boxed there. Marco of Spain is going to be dangerous. Amos is
:50:32. > :50:38.looking good. Clear air for him and he glides past the Brazilian. O
:50:38. > :50:46.others are scrapping it out. -- the others are scrapping it out. That
:50:46. > :50:53.is going to be a surprise there. Amos wins it. Well, already
:50:53. > :51:00.Lewandowksi not through, of course there are fastest losers spot bus
:51:00. > :51:04.only three from seven. The likes of Lewandowksi, Robinson, found
:51:04. > :51:10.wanting there. That That was a surprise. The Brazilian athlete
:51:10. > :51:16.leading, and Amos of Botswana, looks the part. Now watch
:51:16. > :51:26.accelerate quickly, moving through. Lewandowksi is struggling. The
:51:26. > :51:31.Spaniard working hard too. there, cad vas Robinson coming
:51:31. > :51:35.through, not quite far enough. Look at young Amos, this sman a real
:51:35. > :51:42.talent. That was really comfortable for him. That was impressive as
:51:42. > :51:47.well. Some great athletes in this 700 metre, we will see the world
:51:47. > :51:56.record holder coming up soon. I think we will hear a lot more from
:51:56. > :52:02.this man. He looks a natural. He does. Powering through. Looking
:52:02. > :52:10.good. Not have often we see athletes from Botswana but it is

:53:40. > :53:44.well. We have hit almost every one my honourable friend targets and

:53:47. > :53:52.Everything has gone really really close to the plan. This year
:53:52. > :53:58.especially, I have had some good race, made some great races against

:55:57. > :56:04.indoor bronze medallist this year in Turkey, and in Istanbul good

:57:04. > :57:09.Osagie has gone quickly. He has gone past Ismail. Certainly has
:57:09. > :57:13.Rudisha in his sights Brendan. Certainly interesting to see David
:57:13. > :57:17.Rudisha, this man could become the star of these games, we won't see
:57:17. > :57:22.many world records in the stadium, and this man is debate bling he
:57:22. > :57:26.should go for the world record in the 800ms in the final. He has to
:57:26. > :57:29.get to the final. This is a tough draw for Andrew Osagie, he is in
:57:29. > :57:32.fifth place there, he has progressed very well in the last
:57:32. > :57:37.couple of year, bronze medallist indoors in the World Championships

:58:10. > :58:16.Andrew Osagie has a bit to do. Certainly has, he is running

:58:21. > :58:26.presence felt down the side. Andrew Osagie has to get involved here.
:58:26. > :58:33.Andrew Osagie still trapped in fifth. David Rudisha looking very
:58:33. > :58:38.good indeed. Vasquez in second place. Bala. Andrew Osagie has to
:58:38. > :58:44.get a move on. Otherwise he is in danger of being eliminated. Rudisha
:58:44. > :58:54.wins it. Bala in second. Andrew Osagie I think just got third place,
:58:54. > :58:54.
:58:54. > :59:00.but it was close. Is.45.9. -- 1.45.9. He didn't really get
:59:00. > :59:08.involved until the last 40 or 50m. No doubt about the winner, but
:59:08. > :59:12.ocean o unconfirmed yet but we think he got third. There goes
:59:12. > :59:16.David rudsha, watch him round the top bend what a pleasure to watch
:59:16. > :59:21.the world record holder, as he comes down there, led every step of
:59:21. > :59:24.the way, that is the way he likes to run. Vasquez following him, and
:59:24. > :59:28.Andrew Osagie at this point is in sixth place, but he is confident.
:59:28. > :59:33.He is getting more confident. Riseley is a good athlete. He has
:59:33. > :59:38.run as fast as Andrew Osagie but look at the world record holder,
:59:38. > :59:42.opening out, just striding away, Vasquez in second place, and here
:59:42. > :59:46.comes Andrew Osagie moving through, he has to be in the first three, he
:59:46. > :59:53.is timing it brilliantly. Is he timing it brilliantly? Look at that.
:59:53. > :59:57.I tell you what, a bit close for comfortable but he is edging
:59:57. > :00:03.through and he nudges third place. If I was a coach or a manager of
:00:03. > :00:07.Andrew Osagie, I would have been nervous, the big man, David Rudisha,
:00:07. > :00:11.and then Andrew just nipping them on the line, the photo finish says
:00:11. > :00:20.Andrew Osagie in third place. And he is down stairs to explain his
:00:20. > :00:25.What a roar from the crowd as Andrew crossed the line, getting a
:00:25. > :00:29.crucial third place. Tell me how it unfolded from your point of view?
:00:29. > :00:33.was very relaxed and I was just outside the qualifying until the
:00:33. > :00:40.last two or three metres. It is not ideal, but I did not panic. I was
:00:40. > :00:45.comfortable where I was. Did you feel you needed to maybe for the
:00:45. > :00:50.next round bringing nearer the front and be in touch earlier?
:00:50. > :00:54.always renowned for being rubbish in the heats, almost. So when it is
:00:54. > :00:59.nine time with an amazing crowd like this, I will be fine tomorrow.
:00:59. > :01:02.You will bow into the crowd as if you were not worthy, but you are
:01:02. > :01:06.worthy after the season you have had. This crowd has been
:01:06. > :01:12.unbelievable over the last few days and we are trying to match that
:01:12. > :01:16.with performances. We are all try to step up as Team GB. Actually a
:01:16. > :01:26.can come out and put on a show for the crowd again tomorrow. --
:01:26. > :01:27.
:01:27. > :01:32.hopefully I can come out. Thank you well. He never panicked. Timing it
:01:32. > :01:42.brilliantly, and we can say that in hindsight. The moral of the story
:01:42. > :01:44.
:01:44. > :01:50.is he runs better in the evening. world champions last year, and now
:01:50. > :02:00.in the Olympic Games, qualifying in third place. David Rudisha looking
:02:00. > :02:12.
:02:12. > :02:18.this year. Well, absolutely hurling that shot out there, way beyond the
:02:18. > :02:22.qualifying mark. Interesting that the organisers have set the
:02:23. > :02:28.automatic qualifying distance at 20.65 and only two in the world
:02:28. > :02:33.have thrown that far this year. But she has come off the back of five
:02:33. > :02:38.Bella Russian records in her last three performances before Russian
:02:38. > :02:45.2012 -- Bella Russian records. A very long, long as we have seen so
:02:45. > :02:50.far. Here is Valerie Adams and she will have seen that, and
:02:50. > :02:54.unbelievably, she is down below the automatic qualifying. And it is a
:02:54. > :03:04.red flag in any way. That distance would take her through to the final
:03:04. > :03:11.
:03:11. > :03:19.heats earlier on. Tiffany Porter at the bottom of the page, and Sally
:03:19. > :03:22.Pearson heading everyone up. The second page goes all the way down,
:03:22. > :03:27.and Derval O'Rourke has gone through as one of the fastest
:03:27. > :03:34.losers. She was the quickest of those who did not go through
:03:34. > :03:43.automatically, and in the end, Kemp at 13.51 got through to the semi-
:03:43. > :03:49.final. Well, Gareth Warburton, by contrast, has a tough heat here. I
:03:49. > :03:54.did say that there were a few harder than others out of the heat,
:03:54. > :04:04.and I think any one of six, or three from six, could go through
:04:04. > :04:19.
:04:19. > :04:23.here. Soren Ludolph of Germany in initially was not selected for the
:04:23. > :04:28.Games. He was the only athlete successful in his appeal, and I
:04:28. > :04:33.think it was the right decision. But, goodness me, has he got a
:04:33. > :04:43.tough one here? The only thing is, you never know what you'll get with
:04:43. > :04:53.Abubaker Kaki. No. 2 behind David Russia -- David Rudisha, but then
:04:53. > :04:56.
:04:56. > :05:02.sometimes he can be no where tall. Timothy Kitum has run 43.94. The
:05:02. > :05:07.Welshman, Gareth Warburton, getting a huge roar from the crowd. Just
:05:07. > :05:17.missed out on the medals in Delhi when he went really well as he was
:05:17. > :05:26.
:05:26. > :05:30.of the best runs of his career to get through here because he will
:05:30. > :05:38.have to beat two or three very good athletes. And they have not gone
:05:38. > :05:44.back quickly. Brendan and I can keep an eye on this, and if you are
:05:44. > :05:50.not in the top three, you'll have to be at 1.46, maybe quicker.
:05:50. > :05:55.Abubaker Kaki leading, and a fairly quick opening 200. I was impressed
:05:55. > :05:59.with Walberton in the Commonwealth Games. -- Gareth Warburton. I was
:05:59. > :06:05.delighted when he was selected after the appeal, but Abubaker Kaki
:06:05. > :06:09.is stretching out. Gareth Warburton needs to get into some space. He is
:06:09. > :06:16.running into way walleye athletes and he realises. Nudging his way
:06:16. > :06:18.through. 52 at the Bellis pretty quick. Now he needs to run it like
:06:18. > :06:22.he did in the Commonwealth Games. He needs to run with the
:06:22. > :06:26.determination we had seen before. The first three will go through,
:06:26. > :06:33.and he has to work. Abubaker Kaki is stretching down the back
:06:33. > :06:38.straight. Gonzalez of Cuba in second, and Timothy Kitum in third.
:06:38. > :06:42.Then Gareth Warburton is sitting behind them, but there is danger in
:06:42. > :06:47.Soren Ludolph who can be quick in the home straight. Gareth Warburton
:06:47. > :06:50.needs to follow them through. He has to get in the top three or a
:06:51. > :06:55.least keep going strong in the home straight. Abubaker Kaki controlling
:06:55. > :07:02.it. Here comes Timothy Kitum. Gareth Warburton struggling.
:07:02. > :07:10.Gonzalez is struggling and tiring. Abubaker Kaki wins in, Timothy
:07:10. > :07:19.Kitum second. Gareth Warburton well, 5th place, but we saw the clock
:07:19. > :07:24.beyond 1.47 and that will not be good enough. And that is a shame,
:07:24. > :07:30.because we watched him run a solo 1.45 in the heats, and anything
:07:30. > :07:36.would have put through Gareth today. I'm sure he is going to be
:07:36. > :07:42.disappointed. Here they are, Abubaker Kaki stretching them,
:07:42. > :07:44.Timothy Kitum moving on to the outside in third place. Second in
:07:45. > :07:49.the world junior championships earlier this year. At this point
:07:49. > :07:53.Gareth Warburton has a chance. He slows the pace and then starts to
:07:53. > :07:57.accelerate, but there is some talent around here today. At this
:07:57. > :08:03.point I thought he could have moved if he had the chance but he is
:08:03. > :08:06.being stretched too far and is a little tired. Timothy Kitum has got
:08:06. > :08:12.the finishing speed and Gareth Warburton unable to respond. He
:08:12. > :08:17.looks like he is treading water in the last 50. Unfortunately not able
:08:17. > :08:23.to qualify. The first three will go through. Gareth Warburton in 5th
:08:23. > :08:27.place, well, slightly disappointing air. I wonder what kind of run we
:08:27. > :08:31.will get from Abubaker Kaki in the next round. He looked comfortable
:08:31. > :08:36.and strong. Timothy Kitum could be a danger in the later stages.
:08:36. > :08:40.Gonzalez of Cuba slowing and Mohamed coming through on the
:08:40. > :08:47.inside. Gareth Warburton, the head down a bit, and the time will not
:08:47. > :08:57.be fast enough, so I think is a Olympic journey ends now. Just to
:08:57. > :09:06.
:09:06. > :09:12.Steve was saying in commentary that you ran 1.45 0.8 in the Europeans
:09:12. > :09:17.on a solo run, so why you disappointing? -- disappointed?
:09:17. > :09:21.just didn't have it. The guys all ran away from me at 600 and I'm
:09:21. > :09:25.very disappointed. I don't think it will be enough to get through.
:09:25. > :09:30.Unfortunately, it is not. Can you explain why it doesn't work on a
:09:30. > :09:35.morning when it just doesn't click? It is hard to know, really. It has
:09:35. > :09:40.been a long season. I started racing in April. I had to qualify
:09:40. > :09:43.for the game's first and then peak again, so it is quite hard. Did you
:09:44. > :09:49.feel an added pressure to justify your place having gone through the
:09:49. > :09:55.appeal process? Not at all. I felt I deserved to be in the team as
:09:55. > :10:05.much as everyone else. Just didn't work today? Yes. That's the talking
:10:05. > :10:16.
:10:16. > :10:19.to us today. We appreciate it. -- sure. That is the first time I have
:10:19. > :10:24.ever seen him crack under pressure. We will have to wait and see what

:10:34. > :10:40.
:10:40. > :10:50.the first group has finished. Amazingly, the Commonwealth athlete,
:10:50. > :11:06.
:11:06. > :11:13.the Indian champion is one of only Brecht Morse, disappointment, 16th

:11:29. > :11:34.told she was pretty annoyed and she might have got rid of some of that
:11:34. > :11:37.frustration just there. I think she must have been disgusted at the
:11:37. > :11:43.first-round throw. It is uncharacteristic of Valerie Adams

:13:51. > :14:01.through in 52. Yuriy Borzakovskiy near a 54, but starting to make a
:14:01. > :14:02.
:14:02. > :14:08.move. Andreas Bube still leading. Annan has got -- anchors got a
:14:08. > :14:12.strong finisher. He is not quite at his best, but he is looking strong.
:14:12. > :14:15.I was going to say, when he was younger he could do that sort of
:14:15. > :14:25.manoeuvre in his sleep. Yuriy Borzakovskiy certainly finds
:14:25. > :14:38.
:14:38. > :14:42.himself in 5th place and with a bit Nick Symmonds forces his way to the
:14:42. > :14:48.front. I think Harris of Canada may have got second place. That was a
:14:48. > :14:51.strange heat. Borzakovskiy is going to have to see if he can get a wild
:14:51. > :14:57.card to take him through to the semifinals. Good run by the
:14:57. > :15:01.American. I am not sure, we are not looking at the last time the
:15:01. > :15:06.Olympic champion Borzakovskiy on the world stage there. Very tired.
:15:06. > :15:10.Not able to respond today. And it was an interesting race overall. We
:15:10. > :15:14.were watching Borzakovskiy, does he have it like he used to Nick
:15:14. > :15:19.Symmonds positioned well. Bube is leading and Kszczot, 200 metres to
:15:19. > :15:23.go and Kszczot takes off and runs impressively round the top bend.
:15:23. > :15:26.Nick Symmonds waiting in third place. The Canadian Harris, in
:15:26. > :15:29.fourth on the inside there, and Borzakovskiy coming into the
:15:29. > :15:34.straight. Moves into the outside position, and when he gets there,
:15:34. > :15:39.there is nothing in his legs, he has no power any more, he hasn't
:15:39. > :15:43.got the ability that he had, it is the end of a great Carrie for
:15:43. > :15:47.Borzakovskiy, he is a bit close but there is four in front of him he is
:15:47. > :15:56.finishing fifth. You, he will have to wait, but that might be the last
:15:56. > :16:00.we see, he is the third fastest finishing so far. Kszczot Simmonds
:16:00. > :16:04.and Harris, the first three of right. Bube tiring. Borzakovskiy
:16:04. > :16:12.not quite to be able do it. Bosse of France on the inside. So Kszczot,
:16:12. > :16:15.Simmonds and Harris, one, two and three. Bosse in fourth place, and
:16:15. > :16:21.then Borzakovskiy, former Olympic champion, now having to sit out in
:16:21. > :16:29.the back, to find out what happens in the other heats. Nick Symmonds
:16:29. > :16:39.looked good. So Andrew Osagie through, Gareth Warburton not and
:16:39. > :16:42.
:16:42. > :16:47.the third is Michael Rimmer. It couldn't get bigger or better,
:16:47. > :16:51.this is going to be the pinnacle really, it is going to be exciting.
:16:51. > :16:54.I will make sure I enjoy I I don't want to sound negative. I want to
:16:54. > :17:02.make sure I enjoy this games and make the most of it, because it is
:17:02. > :17:06.never going to happen again. If it is not my day I want to remain up
:17:06. > :17:09.beat. I will put everything on the track, no matter what, so I am
:17:09. > :17:16.looking forward to it. I am in good shape, at the right time. I have
:17:16. > :17:19.had problems but it seems to be all in the past, which is good. So I am
:17:19. > :17:24.quite excited. Michael Rimmer running strongly, running very very
:17:24. > :17:27.well. This is his best performance in a major Championship. 80,000
:17:27. > :17:31.people. I don't know, they are going to carry me down the home
:17:31. > :17:41.straight. I am looking forward to it. It is that feeling, you want to
:17:41. > :17:46.
:17:46. > :17:51.get throughout now. He is a great at his best would have to be on the
:17:51. > :17:55.mark, as you have already seen, the heats are tough, and I am not sure
:17:55. > :18:01.that Michael has produced his best form. He started pretty well, and
:18:01. > :18:06.just check on the result of that last one first. Simmonds, Harris
:18:06. > :18:09.and Kszczot. The poll just squeezing through into third place.
:18:09. > :18:16.Borzakovskiy is the third fastest loser at the moment but there is
:18:16. > :18:25.still three heats to go. So let us see what Michael Rimmer has to beet.
:18:25. > :18:35.Some of the names won't be that familiar. Lopez has run 1.43
:18:35. > :18:45.
:18:45. > :18:50.semifinal yesterday you might be surprised to see Makhloufi. So he
:18:50. > :18:56.was sensational in the heats of the 15hun and has run a very fast 800,
:18:56. > :19:01.having the season of his life. The Iranian, inside Michael Rimmer. He
:19:02. > :19:06.had run under 1.46. He will be dangerous. You have Lopez. Had a
:19:06. > :19:10.cracking run breaking the Spanish record in Monaco in his last race
:19:10. > :19:17.before these him pi, so if he doesn't come in the top three, he
:19:17. > :19:25.has to be moving swiftly. Borzakovskiy hanging on by his
:19:25. > :19:29.finger-tips. We have three more heats to come, including this one.
:19:29. > :19:33.Michael at his best, but he has looked out of sorts this year, he
:19:33. > :19:37.has had problem, he had a hernia operation in the winter. I know at
:19:37. > :19:43.one point he thought he might not be here, but he is, so he has to
:19:43. > :19:47.focus and try and run with a bit of confidence. He has, he has been our
:19:47. > :19:50.top 800 metre runner for several years but Andrew Osagie has
:19:50. > :19:55.overtaken him this year and Andrew Osagie is through to the final. A
:19:55. > :19:59.very close finish, but Andrew is through the semifinal. Gareth
:19:59. > :20:03.Warburton wasn't able to make it through, so could we have two
:20:03. > :20:09.British athletes in the semifinal? I hope so. But Michael Rimmer has a
:20:09. > :20:14.bit of running to do today. It will be interesting to see the Egyptian.
:20:15. > :20:19.He has entered. He has the final of the 1500 metres on his mind. I
:20:19. > :20:23.wonder what he will do here today. Will he try and run flat out and
:20:23. > :20:33.qualify or take it easy and go through the motions. Interesting
:20:33. > :20:35.
:20:35. > :20:43.for this controversial athlete. Algerian. He He is very confident.
:20:43. > :20:52.Lopez of Spain, new Spanish record holder, as I said. It was a big
:20:52. > :20:57.race in Monaco. Lots of fast times in the 15hun and the 800. -- 1500.
:20:57. > :21:03.European silver medallist in Barcelona, when I think we all
:21:03. > :21:13.thought he could win. He was pipped to that on that occasion. Here he
:21:13. > :21:14.
:21:14. > :21:21.goes, trying to make it into the Olympic semifinal. The aljeer ian
:21:21. > :21:25.almost took a step backment Michael Rimmer will just have the luxury of
:21:25. > :21:28.being able to watch and wait and just move across. Just see if
:21:28. > :21:33.anyone wants to take it through the first 2 hundred, they know what
:21:33. > :21:37.they have to do. It looks as though they have gone, settling down and
:21:37. > :21:42.Michael Rimmer. Hang on a minute. Hang on a minute. Now you see, you
:21:42. > :21:45.wonder why he stepped off. He is into the final and he had to turn
:21:45. > :21:52.up today. Otherwise he couldn't turn up in the is a00, so I don't
:21:52. > :21:56.know why they registered him. Nerve mind he stepped off. That makes
:21:56. > :22:01.Michael Rimmer's job easier. Lopez of Spain putting himself in a good
:22:01. > :22:06.position. You know they have to run 1.46 to get through at fastest
:22:06. > :22:09.losers and Rimmer is doing sensibly. It is not quite quick enough. They
:22:09. > :22:12.are not giving themselves a chance. Michael Rimmer has, he is in the
:22:12. > :22:17.lead. He has to try and make it a long run for home. There is no
:22:17. > :22:20.point in settling into the pack, because he will have a problem then,
:22:20. > :22:24.but there Michael Rimmer, the crowd roaring him as he goes down the
:22:24. > :22:31.back straightment looks good today. Looks as though he is working hard.
:22:31. > :22:36.There is Lopez. Rimmer has to hang on. The Egyptian has made a push.
:22:36. > :22:41.Looking strong. So is Rimmer and moving away, with Lopez. Top three
:22:41. > :22:49.to go through, he has to be strong in the home straight. Lopez looks
:22:49. > :22:53.behind.. He can say them chasing. It will be a real scrap. The
:22:53. > :22:59.Japanese is looking fast. Rimmer is fading. I don't think that will
:22:59. > :23:05.mean he will get through because this will be slow. Well, they were
:23:05. > :23:09.good. The were others chasing and chasing and for a while, it looked
:23:09. > :23:14.as though Rimmer has done it right. But that first lap was slow, that
:23:14. > :23:18.meant if you weren't in the top three you are not going through.
:23:18. > :23:23.Just didn't vit and I think that has been an indication really of
:23:23. > :23:29.Michael's season, when he has wanted it. Put his foot down, dug
:23:29. > :23:33.into the well. It hasn't quite been there. Here Michael Rimmer, a slow
:23:33. > :23:38.opening lap but he finds himself in the lead here. The question is,
:23:38. > :23:43.could he hang on to this lead? Michael Rimmer fiends himself in a
:23:43. > :23:46.position, he might, it is not a fast race and here he has a chance.
:23:46. > :23:50.Opening down the back straight. Running hard, but here comes Lopez
:23:50. > :23:55.following him. He is running strongly, as well as the Egyptian
:23:55. > :23:59.looking so powerful, and then the first blow for Rimmer, here the
:23:59. > :24:06.Egyptian goes past him and Lopez who we know is quick, has a real
:24:07. > :24:15.good chance of catching there. Michael Rimmer is in a qualifying
:24:15. > :24:20.position in the finishing straight. On the inside, the Japanese athlete,
:24:20. > :24:26.but the Iranian coming in alongside the Spanish athlete, Lopez, no
:24:26. > :24:32.problem qualifying there, and sadly, that is the end of Michael Rimmer's
:24:32. > :24:38.Olympic entry, the Iranian looking powerful. Lopez looking easy. And
:24:38. > :24:41.there we are waiting for Michael Rimmer, disappointed in fifth place
:24:41. > :24:47.and will take no further part. Lopez comes past him and he has to
:24:48. > :24:57.hang on. He has to keep going and try and work hard. The Iranian
:24:57. > :25:01.coming quickly, but powerful. A real disappointment for Michael
:25:01. > :25:07.Rimmer, so we have one athlete through to the semifinal. Michael
:25:07. > :25:11.won't be in it unfortunately. He is downstairs talking to Phil Jones.
:25:11. > :25:15.Michael, Tell me about the game plan and why it didn't come
:25:15. > :25:21.plan and why it didn't come together for you today in I don't
:25:21. > :25:30.know to be honest, difficult to say, yeah, shocked. Shocked. You were
:25:30. > :25:35.taking it out from the front, were you aware 1.46 might get you in as
:25:35. > :25:40.a fastest loser. I wanted to get in the top three. I was comfortable
:25:40. > :25:46.taking it myself, and my legs didn't have the change of gears,
:25:46. > :25:51.which is strange. I don't know why. In Portugal I was PBing every
:25:51. > :25:59.session, so I don't know, I am, I am confused. Really confused.
:25:59. > :26:04.won't keep you any longer. Thanks. Well, it is sad for Michael Rimmer
:26:04. > :26:07.and he just got a heat where there and he just got a heat where there
:26:07. > :26:11.was nobody to take the pace on. Just to pick out again the Algerian
:26:11. > :26:18.does not finish, he will be in the 15 final tomorrow. He has to come
:26:18. > :26:28.and take part today, so he is not injured. He will be back tomorrow.
:26:28. > :26:35.1.48.05 is the winning time and Michael Rimmer out. Raise the men's
:26:35. > :26:38.its -- discus qualifying. Lawrence its -- discus qualifying. Lawrence
:26:38. > :26:44.Okoye is ranked four in the world. What was your reaction Bunce you
:26:44. > :26:49.knew you had bagged a place on the team. You go to stadium and do
:26:49. > :26:55.something, so, it was, it was a great day, but you know, it is a
:26:55. > :26:59.day I realised that I am starting on this new journey. How long has
:26:59. > :27:05.the Olympics been on your particular radar? Well, I would
:27:05. > :27:09.have to say only two years, because I used to play rugby, obviously. I
:27:09. > :27:14.left school at 18 and I had to make a decision about my future. I love
:27:14. > :27:18.rugby, I wish I could do both but I am enjoying my discus, and
:27:18. > :27:22.hopefully the Olympics will be the time I can look back and say, yeah
:27:22. > :27:26.I made the right decision. The discuss I have thrown reflect why I
:27:26. > :27:32.am doing the training. I can't wait for the combination of this hard
:27:32. > :27:40.work, but, you know, I have to go to the games and make sure I have
:27:40. > :27:43.my head screwed on. Focus on my job. my head screwed on. Focus on my job.
:27:43. > :27:48.If I do thatly produce the goods. He is massive. He has three

:28:58. > :29:03.being led by another youngster, Bosse of France. Heat six. Among
:29:03. > :29:10.some of the other contenders the 31 year Spaniard who is wearing the

:29:56. > :30:01.53 for the opening lap. Remember, the Olympic champion is sitting
:30:01. > :30:07.there waiting to see whether his tame time of 1.46.29 is fast enough.
:30:07. > :30:12.There are a few of them here, they could rush down the back straight.
:30:12. > :30:20.Am -- Amman poised and looking ready to go. He looks dangerous. He
:30:20. > :30:30.is in a very good position. Currently sitting in second place,
:30:30. > :30:34.
:30:34. > :30:40.be hind another teenage sensation strong. Aman heads off into the
:30:40. > :30:45.home straight, Chemut on the inside. Perhaps no way through for

:30:53. > :30:59.coming away, those three will qualify. It is a very modest time,
:30:59. > :31:04.but that gives you an idea of the potential of Mohammed Aman. The
:31:04. > :31:10.world indoor champion and just 18 years old. The 18-year-old
:31:10. > :31:15.Ethiopian, kissing the flag of Ethiopia and celebrating, they are

:31:22. > :31:27.- Chemut of Kenya positioned himself well. Aman was ready to go

:31:36. > :31:43.Qualification has come easy form all three of them. Chemut, Aman and
:31:43. > :31:53.Reina go through. If I am correct with my mathematics, it could be...
:31:53. > :32:00.
:32:00. > :32:09.One more heat, but at the moment, Borzakovskiy is the fastest runner
:32:09. > :32:19.up. Aman will be a danger in the next round. He took it very easily,

:34:40. > :34:47.out. Borzakovskiy, the former champion, hanging on by his

:36:03. > :36:12.Solomon Branning credibly rock -- incredibly well in the Monaco

:37:33. > :37:39.running it. The qualification in his last week, six athletes could
:37:39. > :37:46.go through if they ran faster than 1:46. You would give it a go, you
:37:46. > :37:51.would give it a chance. Solomon, 1:43, he looks comfortable. The
:37:51. > :37:55.Dutch runner is running through at this point in time. It is a bit
:37:55. > :38:01.quick, they should be able to run a good time of that. Solomon
:38:01. > :38:07.continues to lead. I think I have gone in sensibly, that is the
:38:07. > :38:17.advantage of running the last eight. Let's hope he hasn't overcooked it.
:38:17. > :38:21.
:38:21. > :38:29.-- the advantage of running the enjoying this, having to work hard.

:38:39. > :38:55.
:38:55. > :39:03.going through. Solomon wins it. I think Borzakovskiy might be OK. He
:39:03. > :39:10.just burned them off on the first lap. It is not normally the way you
:39:10. > :39:20.run an 800. Although Holusa SAT off the pace, the Dutch runner was able
:39:20. > :39:23.
:39:23. > :39:33.run, if you think about it. He didn't need to go this quickly
:39:33. > :39:34.
:39:34. > :39:40.around the bend. He knows all he has to do is finish in the first
:39:40. > :39:50.three. Solomon, quite impressive. There was an opportunity for a fast
:39:50. > :39:51.
:39:51. > :39:58.qualifying time. Then the clock is ticking. Is it ticking to the
:39:58. > :40:07.advantage of Borzakovskiy? I think you are right, I think he is
:40:07. > :40:13.through Fawthrop -- he is through. Solomon, very comfortable. Holusa
:40:13. > :40:21.will not go through as a fastest loser. It will be the three we put
:40:21. > :40:31.up on the caption at the beginning. Let's tidy all of that up. 24 men
:40:31. > :40:49.
:40:49. > :40:54.have gone through, three from each Mixed fortunes boarded British
:40:54. > :40:57.athletes and it is always tough qualifying for the 800m -- mixed

:41:02. > :41:05.energy because of the round situation but it is so complex.
:41:05. > :41:09.Unless you are one of the dominant athletes, you can't really control
:41:10. > :41:15.what is going to happen. Andrew a Sade did very well because he was
