:00:10. > :00:16.I would not stray too far from a television set if I were you,

:00:16. > :00:23.because this has all the maybeings as Michelle was saying of another

:00:23. > :00:28.glittering day in the medal front. In the Velodrome, on horse back,

:00:28. > :00:31.potentially the Olympic Stadium and round Hyde Park. Just one more gold

:00:31. > :00:35.would equal -- equal the total number from Beijing and that could

:00:35. > :00:43.come within the next the two hours from a man named Brownlee. But

:00:43. > :00:48.which one? Meet alstir and Jonathan Brownlee. Two brothers from West

:00:49. > :00:53.Yorkshire. Housemates, team-mates, training partners, and rivals.

:00:53. > :01:02.These competitive siblings happen to be the world's top two

:01:02. > :01:08.With a stack of impressive results under their belt, both boys will be

:01:08. > :01:14.hoping to reach the podium in London. But stairl's journey to the

:01:14. > :01:22.games hasn't been an easy one. In February, a tear to his Achilles

:01:22. > :01:27.tendon put his out of action while Johnny was winning titles. I wasn't

:01:27. > :01:32.that bad, I was quite glad I found out what it was and got a specific

:01:32. > :01:37.diagnosis. When I got home from ta, a week or two later, I couldn't do

:01:37. > :01:41.much training, I was unhappy, that was a nightmare. I tried to stay ya

:01:41. > :01:44.from him, tried to do different things, when I trained, go out the

:01:44. > :01:47.back door, so it wasn't too obvious. With the Olympics in the back of

:01:47. > :01:51.your head, you are thinking I should be doing everything I can do,

:01:51. > :01:55.which makes it worse because you feel about half -- you fill about

:01:55. > :01:58.half an hour doing some ridiculous exercise that probably doesn't make

:01:58. > :02:03.you better. Myself, I have the Olympics to train for and at the

:02:03. > :02:07.same time I am leaving the house thinking I am guilty because

:02:07. > :02:11.Alistair can't go out running but I had to get over that and reel

:02:11. > :02:16.realise I have to be selfish and concentrate on myself. Onanyis

:02:16. > :02:20.about a sympathetic as a plank of wood. It is not as if he helped at

:02:20. > :02:25.all. He would leave without me enif I was 30 seconds late. If I wanted

:02:25. > :02:29.to get fit fast I had to think outside the box, so I often thought

:02:29. > :02:34.about running on an underwater treadmill. I was injury prone and

:02:34. > :02:38.got on with my friend Alec digging a hole in the garden. It gave me

:02:38. > :02:41.manager to do and that was a godsend. They were out there every

:02:41. > :02:44.day from eight in the morning to five in the eve nng, just digging

:02:44. > :02:50.this hole. The hole got bigger and bigger and they didn't realise how

:02:50. > :02:56.big it had to be and how much dirt they had to get out. As soon as I

:02:56. > :03:00.started using it my aChiles started getting less stiff. In June he

:03:00. > :03:09.returned to the global stage in style, with a comfortable victory

:03:09. > :03:12.at the world series event in Kitzbuhel. Both brothers are hoping

:03:12. > :03:17.they can stay focused and give their best performances in the

:03:17. > :03:21.Olympic race. I think we are aware it is the Olympics and trying to

:03:21. > :03:24.get that boost but not getting carried away with the whole

:03:25. > :03:28.experience, knowing we are there for a race and I think it will be

:03:28. > :03:32.especially good for Jonny, because he hasn't been to the Olympics

:03:32. > :03:36.before. What Alistair has said it is different to everything else. It

:03:36. > :03:42.is an amazing opportunity and you have to experience it, you have to

:03:42. > :03:47.love it. It is going to be the best triathlon I will be part of. It

:03:47. > :03:52.can't wait to race it. The Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Johnny

:03:52. > :03:57.ranked one and two in the world. They have dominated the scene but a

:03:57. > :04:01.lady who has dominated the Ironman triathlon scene Chrissie Wellington,

:04:01. > :04:06.she is with me to assess the chances of the Brownlee brothers

:04:06. > :04:14.and everybody else. First of all, remind everybody what is involved

:04:14. > :04:18.in this event. OK, a triathlon is a swim, a bike, and a run. It

:04:18. > :04:23.comprises different distance, the triathlon in the Olympics is the

:04:23. > :04:29.Olympic distance triathlon, a 1.5 kilometre swim, it is a 43

:04:29. > :04:33.kilometre bike, ordinarily a 40 kilometre bike, and then a ten

:04:33. > :04:37.kilometre run and the men and the women race over the same course.

:04:37. > :04:40.You are doing distances which far exceed that in Ironman, in fact you

:04:40. > :04:44.are finishing with a marathon at end of the your race, but there is

:04:44. > :04:50.a subtle difference in the way you approach your races and this sprint

:04:50. > :04:55.format of the triathlon. My race, the iron distance event, 2.4 mile

:04:55. > :05:00.swim. 112 bike, finished off with a marathon is very different. You

:05:00. > :05:03.know the training, and the effort that goes into training for the

:05:04. > :05:07.Olympic distance triathlon is no less than the Ironman. They are

:05:08. > :05:11.just, you know, different style of racing. You take nine hours

:05:11. > :05:15.complete, they take round two and we will be watching that carefully

:05:15. > :05:20.today. The Brownlee brothers themselves, 24-year-old, 22-year-

:05:20. > :05:24.old, Alistair is the older of the the two and he is a double World

:05:24. > :05:28.Champion. What has given them such a dominance over this event? They

:05:28. > :05:34.do have a stranglehold over the Olympic distance triathlon, they

:05:34. > :05:39.have taken it by storm and they -- their consistency is phenomenal,

:05:39. > :05:44.barring a few periods of injury that Alistair's had. They are very

:05:44. > :05:49.very grounded, they train up in Yorkshire, for the most part. They

:05:49. > :05:54.are capable of racing in, you know, on all terrain, in all conditions,

:05:54. > :05:59.and they have got this will to win, this determination and this

:06:00. > :06:04.incredibly aggressive approach to racing. They have a total disdain

:06:04. > :06:09.for conservative tactics which I enjoy, and it makes for great

:06:09. > :06:12.exciting racesle --ration. In terms of how the other teams view them,

:06:12. > :06:16.they are a threat for gold and silver but everybody else in this

:06:16. > :06:21.field of 55 athletes knows that. How aggressive are the tactics

:06:21. > :06:27.towards them going to be today? Absolutely. The other teams are

:06:27. > :06:30.acutely wear of the dominance of the two Brownlee brothers, and

:06:30. > :06:34.their consistency also across all three disciplines. It is not they

:06:34. > :06:39.are the fast runners, they are among the strongest swimmers and

:06:39. > :06:44.bikers as well. I think we will see some interteam tactics taking place

:06:44. > :06:48.here, so I think we will see some of the teams working together,

:06:48. > :06:53.especially on the bike, to try and create what we call breakaways, so

:06:53. > :06:58.I think we will see them using the corner, accelerating out of the

:06:58. > :07:02.very many corners on this technical course, trying to break grey the

:07:03. > :07:08.Brownlees and get themselves a gap so going into the run they can

:07:08. > :07:14.withstand the incredible speed of Alistair and Johnny. We have Stewie

:07:14. > :07:16.Hayes, who is going to help them to try and achieve their aims. But if

:07:16. > :07:24.you watch Saturday's woman's triathlon you will know what it is

:07:24. > :07:29.nt. If not, here is what is involved for the athletes today.

:07:29. > :07:35.Triathlon. A triathlon is a race divided into three different

:07:35. > :07:40.disciplines. Swim. The first element is a 1500 metre open water

:07:40. > :07:43.swim. And as triathletes look to establish their position, contact

:07:43. > :07:48.is accepted, unless it is considered to be unfair or a

:07:48. > :07:52.deliberate attempt to impede. Competitors will look to use slip

:07:52. > :07:55.streaming to conserve energy. Swimming in the the trail of others

:07:55. > :08:01.can significantly improve performance, in in the disciplines

:08:01. > :08:06.following the swim. Cycle. The transition period between swimming

:08:06. > :08:13.and cycling is key, in the hope of gaining an advantage before a 40

:08:13. > :08:16.kilometre bike ride. Specialist carbon-fibre bikes are used as they

:08:16. > :08:23.are strong but very light this is particularly important, as any

:08:23. > :08:30.fault in the equipment can finish the challenge. Drafting is allowed

:08:30. > :08:34.at Olympic level where cyclist can cycle as a large group. Some riders

:08:34. > :08:41.may form a break away at the front, in order to get a head start in the

:08:41. > :08:45.next phase, run. The race is won and lost with the final discipline.

:08:45. > :08:55.A ten kilometre run. The first three triathletes to cross the line

:08:55. > :08:59.

:08:59. > :09:04.And by the way, as we start looking at pictures coming from Hyde Park

:09:04. > :09:08.there, the Brownlee brothers are on the cover of all of the Yorkshire

:09:08. > :09:14.telephone director -- directorys this year in case the penny has

:09:14. > :09:18.just dropped. They are about to get going into the river shortly.

:09:18. > :09:23.Sonali has bag add ringside seed there -- seat there this morning.

:09:23. > :09:28.We have been watching the Brownlee brothers and Stuart being called

:09:28. > :09:34.out to their pontoon positions, huge cheers from the crowd. They

:09:34. > :09:38.are wearing number 30, 31 and 32 on their swimming caps. Vicky, who was

:09:38. > :09:42.part of the women's team on Saturday for Team GB. You know the

:09:42. > :09:46.course very very well. Having competed on it already. It is very

:09:46. > :09:50.very technical isn't it, and you were involved in one of the many

:09:51. > :09:54.crashes that day. Yes, the cours does have you a couple of technical

:09:54. > :09:58.area, down through Buckingham Palace, to the main area, and the

:09:58. > :10:02.crash I was involved in happened on one of the corners round Buckingham

:10:02. > :10:07.Palace, and it seems it is transpired since the race a lot of

:10:07. > :10:12.people crashed on that same corner, and maybe ten plus girls came down,

:10:12. > :10:18.soy would be very vair -- wary of that area. I presume you passed on

:10:18. > :10:23.your tips to the Brownlees and Stewart of course. Yes all the team

:10:23. > :10:28.staff were there, they will pass it on. Are there a rumour of ill slick

:10:28. > :10:33.on that corner. So anything to rectify it will have been done.

:10:33. > :10:38.Stewart will be there to protect the Brownlees, to set the pace as

:10:38. > :10:42.well. Graham, you were in Kitzbuhel when they worked together for the

:10:42. > :10:46.first time properly on such a huge stage. How will it work out today?

:10:46. > :10:52.Stuart is there for if something goes wrong, crash or mechanical.

:10:53. > :11:00.The way I think the race will go, ideal scenario will be a break away

:11:00. > :11:05.with both Brownlees in it. Maybe the Russian, Bryukhankov, if he can

:11:05. > :11:10.swim hard, he will be looking at Gomez, thinking he has to beat him.

:11:10. > :11:15.So Bryukhankov will think we want to go out hard and get out on the

:11:15. > :11:18.bike, the ideal scenario is a break away the Brownlees in it. If that

:11:18. > :11:22.doesn't happen, that is when Stuart's role comes in. There is

:11:22. > :11:26.talk of all the other countries working together against Team GB,

:11:26. > :11:31.something similar to what we saw in the road race with Cape Canaveral

:11:31. > :11:35.and Alistair has spoken out about that, knowing it is a danger. He

:11:35. > :11:38.said that has boosd them because than they are the people to beat.

:11:38. > :11:42.For sure, the lest of the field will have to work against them if

:11:42. > :11:46.they want to beat them. They will have to team up and take it to the

:11:46. > :11:51.Brownlees. It is theirs the lose. They are the favourites. The rest

:11:51. > :11:54.of the world, teaming up against them, that would have had to be

:11:54. > :11:58.organised and I am not sure anything has been done about that.

:11:58. > :12:02.But as the race progresses we will see. On the plus side Bryukhankov

:12:02. > :12:08.is thinking if which get a break away on the bike Gomez isn't going

:12:08. > :12:11.to outrun me, I can guarantee a medal by being with the Brownlees.

:12:11. > :12:15.Several athlete also know they are not the fastest runners but they

:12:15. > :12:18.maybe good in the swim. So it is in their interest to be in that break

:12:19. > :12:23.to, have a great swim. Hopefully be in that group that gets away and

:12:23. > :12:28.they will have a higher finishing position than if they are in the

:12:28. > :12:31.main pack. Britain has never won a triathlon medal. Team GB will be

:12:31. > :12:40.hope that 2012 is their year. We will find nowt a couple of hours

:12:40. > :12:46.time. It is time to hand you over time. It is time to hand you over

:12:46. > :12:52.to the commentators. Here is the start list for the triathlon 2012.

:12:52. > :12:58.Going down through country order, to Portuguese, one Slovakian, one

:12:58. > :13:04.South African. Then we get to the business end of this start list.

:13:04. > :13:12.Beginning with 30 Alistair Brownlee. 31 Jonathan Brownlee. 32 Stuart

:13:12. > :13:18.Hayes. No number 13 in the Olympic triathlon, so there are 56 numbers

:13:18. > :13:26.but only 55 competitors T Germans are strong. 46, 47, 48. And there

:13:26. > :13:32.is Gomez at 51 with his compatriots. We will look out for the New

:13:32. > :13:37.Zealand trio at the end. Number 3 for Great Britain, the favourite.

:13:37. > :13:43.The pre-Olympic triathlon favourite Alistair Brownlee. 31 is Johnny.

:13:43. > :13:45.There is 51. Gomez. They are getting ready to start. Wet suits

:13:46. > :13:55.used because the water temperature is cold. They areied to goment.

:13:56. > :14:03.

:14:03. > :14:13.They dive into the Serpentine to Pride Park. This hugely anticipated

:14:13. > :14:38.

:14:38. > :14:42.race. Into the Serpentine fought a under 20 minutes. Just looking at

:14:42. > :14:52.the way that that swim has developed, everyone looking to get

:14:52. > :15:20.

:15:20. > :15:24.for it. We have an arrowhead forming on the left. But they are

:15:25. > :15:34.well spread out across the Serpentine. Groups jostling for

:15:35. > :15:53.

:15:53. > :15:57.We will assume that his brother is alongside him. They have just

:15:57. > :16:05.returned from four weeks of altitude training in the Swiss Alps.

:16:05. > :16:15.That is a training camp that they have benefited from the usually. --

:16:15. > :16:31.

:16:31. > :16:41.hugely. Richard Varga is a very strong

:16:41. > :16:57.

:16:57. > :17:07.swimmer. At the moment there is a considerable gap to catch. Varga at

:17:07. > :17:07.

:17:07. > :17:17.the head of the field, looking very comfortable. Gomez hot on his heels.

:17:17. > :17:20.

:17:20. > :17:26.Varga leads. They have got to be careful here, this is where arms go

:17:26. > :17:36.flying out elbows can do damage. Some of them getting boxed in as

:17:36. > :17:44.

:17:44. > :17:46.they try to squeeze their way around that long yellow inflatable.

:17:46. > :17:56.Varga just turned and had that double benefit of taking a swift

:17:56. > :17:58.

:17:58. > :18:05.look over. He does not want to allow Alistair Brownlee and Jonny

:18:05. > :18:13.Brownlee to get away from him. Look at how closely knit the field

:18:13. > :18:23.is. I imagine some of them are getting battered and bruised

:18:23. > :18:24.

:18:24. > :18:34.through that term. Varga forcing the pace at the front of the field.

:18:34. > :18:37.

:18:37. > :18:47.It is nice to beat in that situation. However you do not have

:18:47. > :19:12.

:19:12. > :19:22.any one ahead acute and you are Serpentine is a 28 acre lake.

:19:22. > :19:31.

:19:31. > :19:41.Now supplied by water pumped straight in from the River Thames.

:19:41. > :19:49.

:19:49. > :19:55.There are medics and lifeguards on already. After those first six or

:19:55. > :20:05.seven, they're still around three deep. So they need to exercise some

:20:05. > :20:40.

:20:40. > :20:50.come out. Tens of thousands out enjoying this Olympic Triathlon

:20:50. > :20:54.

:20:54. > :21:03.which will take place primarily in Hyde Park. Jonny Brownlee just five

:21:03. > :21:06.metres off the pace. One of the advantages that Alistair Brownlee

:21:06. > :21:16.and Jonny Brownlee do have is that because they have trained together

:21:16. > :21:18.

:21:18. > :21:21.they can recognise their strokes. Just those subtle nuances. You can

:21:21. > :21:26.bet that they know exactly where they are and they are able to use

:21:26. > :21:30.it to other through the swim. Because they're so good at world

:21:30. > :21:40.level there is the danger that they could be targeted just a little by

:21:40. > :21:48.

:21:48. > :21:52.some of the other athletes. Richard Varga leads stage one in

:21:52. > :21:57.Richard Varga leads stage one in the Serpentine.

:21:57. > :22:04.And some sad news to bring you because Phillips Idowu was

:22:04. > :22:10.struggling to qualifying. This was his third attempt. And it was not

:22:10. > :22:19.good enough. Phillips Idowu I'm afraid she did not get over that

:22:19. > :22:23.mark. The first time he is qualified, but he has not qualified

:22:23. > :22:29.for the final. Of course the fuss about his non-attendance about the

:22:29. > :22:36.Great Britain training camp will be opened again and he will have some

:22:36. > :22:40.serious questions to answer. Especially those been asked by the

:22:40. > :22:47.performance director, Charles van, me. That is a terrible shame and we

:22:47. > :22:55.me. That is a terrible shame and we all feel greatly for him today.

:22:55. > :23:05.It is a long pack and everyone is close together. Alistair Brown Lee

:23:05. > :23:23.

:23:23. > :23:33.and John Leathem Brown the in 4th coming through. There will be happy

:23:33. > :23:37.

:23:37. > :23:43.with that. Some of the spectators were getting to the park at 5:30am

:23:43. > :23:48.this morning. Great Britain have never yet won a medal in the

:23:48. > :23:58.Olympic Triathlon. But the brothers just seemed to brush off the

:23:58. > :24:21.

:24:21. > :24:26.We have high hopes today. While Helen Jenkins this year finished in

:24:26. > :24:30.5th place and a courageous performance from her. She had been

:24:30. > :24:40.nursing a leg injury. To do what she did under that kind of pressure

:24:40. > :24:45.

:24:45. > :24:54.is just astounding. She gave it absolutely everything.

:24:54. > :25:03.Bryukhankov a very consistent performer. He was second in Madrid.

:25:03. > :25:13.He is one to watch. They come around the second set of the

:25:13. > :25:22.

:25:22. > :25:26.inflatables. Still Richard Varga leading the way. This seems not to

:25:26. > :25:36.be a significant break away happening at the moment in the

:25:36. > :25:42.

:25:42. > :25:49.swimming. Varga an incredibly strong swimmer. He has been

:25:49. > :25:59.training with the Brownlee brothers. It is interesting to see Gomez in

:25:59. > :26:08.their. And Bryukhankov. The brothers in an incredible position

:26:08. > :26:18.at the moment. 12 minutes into the swim. Varga

:26:18. > :26:23.

:26:23. > :26:31.leads the way. The Brownlee brothers in fourth and fifth.

:26:31. > :26:41.Stuart Hayes is very much the projector. He needs to have a good

:26:41. > :26:43.

:26:43. > :26:51.swim to be up there with the brothers.

:26:51. > :26:59.There are huge decisions to be made into the transition area.

:26:59. > :27:06.Bryukhankov loves it. He will be prepared to put himself on the line

:27:06. > :27:12.if there was a possibility of a breakaway.

:27:12. > :27:21.Could we have a six or seven-man breakaway? People talk about this

:27:21. > :27:31.course and she being quite easy but I disagree. There are over 100

:27:31. > :27:41.

:27:41. > :27:51.tight turns. Gomez going through. He has won

:27:51. > :28:00.

:28:00. > :28:05.over this distance in the past. Heading back towards the pontoon.

:28:05. > :28:11.Then just back towards the ramp that bears them out of the lake.

:28:11. > :28:19.They also have to get rid of the wet suits which is sometimes

:28:19. > :28:27.described as the 4th element in the Triathlon, that transition.

:28:27. > :28:31.Seven or eight are likely to get away first on the bikes. It will be

:28:31. > :28:40.interesting to see how long the leaders can keep clear of that

:28:40. > :28:48.second group. It looks as if the big gap is opening now between that

:28:48. > :28:52.second and third group. That is interesting. If one group know that

:28:52. > :29:02.they can get away then I am certain that they will be prepared to take

:29:02. > :29:12.

:29:12. > :29:17.that risk. Gomez would be desperate to be in front of the Brownlees. If

:29:17. > :29:22.there is a weakness in his armoury, he can ride very fast but he does

:29:22. > :29:32.not possess a sprint finish as strong as the brothers. And that

:29:32. > :29:40.

:29:40. > :29:43.clouds don't release any of their rain, and make for a dangerous 43

:29:43. > :29:49.kilometre ride round some of the main sites of west London, they

:29:49. > :29:57.leave the park, remember, via Hyde Park coner, down Constitution Hill

:29:57. > :30:01.to the Palace, to complete the 43 kilometre ride. Seven laps in total.

:30:01. > :30:04.Fabulous tactics by the Brownlee boy, they have Gomez in second,

:30:04. > :30:09.just in front of them. They are looking at him. They are not going

:30:09. > :30:12.to let him get away, as much as the rest of the field will be

:30:12. > :30:15.marshalling looking at Jonny and Alistair, they know who their main

:30:15. > :30:20.opposition are, and Tay are going to be hon foring that and following

:30:20. > :30:26.that. It is going to be hard. I think it is possible, it is

:30:26. > :30:30.possible, maybe we are going to get a group staying away, we did see

:30:30. > :30:35.that on the women's field. Within two laps they have been brought

:30:35. > :30:41.back to the main field. It's a fast pace set by Varga, he will exit the

:30:41. > :30:46.water in under 17 minutes. It is Varga of Slovakia who gets on to

:30:46. > :30:53.his feet. Lifts his goggles. Undoes his wet suit. Followed by Gomez, he

:30:53. > :31:01.is second out. You can check the guys, the names coming through.

:31:01. > :31:06.Fabian of Italy is third. Then Jonny Brownlee. They have arrived

:31:06. > :31:11.in transition. Look at Gomez, stepping out of his wet suit.

:31:11. > :31:14.Multi-tasking as he puts his helmet on. Jonny arrives. Alistair is

:31:15. > :31:19.right behind him. They have to get the kit into the box. Everything

:31:19. > :31:24.has to be done according to the rules. The wet suit gets dumped in.

:31:24. > :31:30.The helmet goes on t shoes are attached to the pedals and it is

:31:30. > :31:34.Jonny who exits transition just ahead of his older brother, but

:31:34. > :31:39.Gomez is already aboard, and peddling, he has reached the mount

:31:39. > :31:43.up line, he son his way, they know the defending champion from Germany

:31:43. > :31:48.is at his bike as well. They will expect a gruech seven or eight to

:31:48. > :31:52.form at the front. Fabian of Italy is involved. Some of the, this

:31:52. > :31:58.group of about seven or six will try and close the group. This is

:31:58. > :32:08.the third group. Keeping an eyen some of the big names from the

:32:08. > :32:11.

:32:12. > :32:20.difference between the first group out and the third group to arrive.

:32:20. > :32:25.That is a huge gap. Let us not take it away from the swimmers. Murray

:32:25. > :32:29.is one minute 15 seconds behind. Murray is mainly the one person who

:32:29. > :32:32.could outsprint the Brownlees on this. He has had a great position

:32:32. > :32:36.at San Diego. Over a minute down. This will take an enormous amount

:32:36. > :32:44.of work to get Murray from South Africa back on that pack. Richard

:32:44. > :32:48.Murray from South Africa, one in -- won in Hamburg there, finished

:32:48. > :32:53.behind Eustace in Sydney and third in San Diego. He has a lot of work

:32:53. > :32:58.to do. This group will form a large pack of round 20 to work their way

:32:58. > :33:03.up and claw back some of the lead. We are with the leaders now. There

:33:03. > :33:09.is a bit of chat going on. We have a man down. Somebody has hit the

:33:09. > :33:19.deck early. That is Simon Whitfield of Canada. He has taken somebody

:33:19. > :33:19.

:33:19. > :33:25.with him as well. It is Chacon,, goodness me. Oh my word! I hope hay

:33:25. > :33:27.are both OK. That was a massive shunt for Chacon and Whitfield who

:33:27. > :33:36.was the first ever Olympic triathlon champion in Sydney in

:33:36. > :33:41.2000. Simon Whitfield fourth time in the Olympic Games, Fife athletes

:33:41. > :33:44.away, one in that horrible situation having to chase very hard.

:33:44. > :33:49.Now Simon Whitfield was in the second pack, round 30 seconds down,

:33:49. > :33:53.would have worked so hard to get back on. They went over that almost

:33:53. > :33:58.a speed bump, just that to cover some testify irregularities in

:33:58. > :34:03.surface, we weren't sure if we were going have a work group, you can

:34:03. > :34:06.bet your life we have now. Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. We thought

:34:06. > :34:10.Stuart Hayes would be there to help out but it seems at the moment he

:34:10. > :34:13.wasn't able to stay on that big swim pace. We didn't see him in the

:34:13. > :34:19.lead pack. Let us just watch this, what is happening here with this

:34:19. > :34:23.group of five. They are coming to the front. Down on the bars, we see

:34:24. > :34:28.20, 25 pedal revolution, then they are moving over to the right hand

:34:28. > :34:32.side, the next cyclist triathlete will come through so they are

:34:32. > :34:35.spreading the workload, rather than one leading everything, vvings

:34:36. > :34:39.having to take the pressure, they are spreading it. If they can

:34:39. > :34:46.maintain this it is possible they could stay away from the chasing

:34:46. > :34:54.pack. 30 seconds down, coming out of the water. It could be close.

:34:54. > :35:02.Kris Gemmell is there. It's a big pack. The German is there. Bokty is

:35:02. > :35:06.there. I am getting so excited about this. -- Doherty. It is a

:35:06. > :35:12.great group at the front. Five athletes working together. I love

:35:12. > :35:15.it when we see it. Past the monument to the regiment of the

:35:15. > :35:19.Royal Artillery. They duck under the arch. They are crossing the

:35:19. > :35:24.Duke of Wellington place, the statue hidden by the tree. It is

:35:25. > :35:30.all about the Duke here. They hit Constitution Hill, through the

:35:30. > :35:35.memorial gates. Down Constitution Hill. It's a very faint slope down

:35:35. > :35:40.to Palace, Buckingham Palace garden behind that brick wall and the

:35:40. > :35:45.razor wire on the right. And it is Jonny, Jonny Brownlee, 31, who is

:35:45. > :35:52.setting the pace, down Constitution Hill, heading for Buckingham Palace

:35:52. > :35:56.for the first time on this first of seven laps. Varga is second. There

:35:57. > :36:01.is the Italian, Fabian, there is Alistair, who is fourth and in

:36:02. > :36:06.fifth at the moment, is Gomez of Spain. What a group of five to lead

:36:06. > :36:10.the Olympic triathlon, they come down in front of the Palace, round

:36:10. > :36:14.the Victoria memorial, there is a loop they do here which takes them

:36:14. > :36:19.briefly on to Birdcage Walk, before they head up on the other side of

:36:19. > :36:24.that line of red traffic cones to climb Constitution Hill towards the

:36:24. > :36:27.top, and the second group, well the pace is noticibly slower within

:36:28. > :36:32.this second group They are not getting it together. Looking back,

:36:32. > :36:35.nobody is prepared the close that gap. You can almost hear their mind

:36:35. > :36:45.working, why should I work to drag them back if it is not going to

:36:45. > :36:49.make it viable for me because I will be so tired? Fabian and other

:36:49. > :36:53.early lead swimmer... Varga:they will be delighted to be out there.

:36:53. > :36:57.We have the three race favourites here, Alistair and Jonny and Gomez

:36:57. > :37:02.is there as well. So Varga is going to be prepared to work so hard,

:37:02. > :37:09.because this makes it viable for him. If he were coming out behind

:37:09. > :37:12.that we might be having a few issues there. Polyanskiy, dropping

:37:12. > :37:15.off the back of that pack already, we thought he might be one of the

:37:15. > :37:18.viable players in this big game. Something has happened with

:37:19. > :37:23.Polyanskiy. I this he is looking for a mechanical assistance at the

:37:23. > :37:27.side of the course. He stopped in for a pit-stop here, he is taking

:37:27. > :37:32.off his reefer wheel and looking for a replacement. Meanwhile the

:37:32. > :37:38.guys are cycling back up the hill with Green Park on the right. They

:37:38. > :37:43.will hang a right, up Park Lane for a few yards, before they go left

:37:43. > :37:52.and back-in to Hyde Park, to head back to transition, to complete lap

:37:52. > :37:59.one of seven. Seven laps of 6.13 kilometres each, to clock up the

:37:59. > :38:05.total of 43. And Polyanskiy has fixed his bike, and he is now way,

:38:05. > :38:12.way off the pace. It's a tough ask for the Russian. 27 tries to bridge

:38:12. > :38:17.the gap is Vasiliev. He is trying to close the gap. They are up

:38:17. > :38:21.through the gates again and round the Duke of Wellington place, up

:38:21. > :38:25.into Park Lane before heading back- in to Hyde Park. A cracking start

:38:25. > :38:29.to the Olympic triathlon. I have got an unofficial split there on

:38:29. > :38:33.the bike, watching them come through. I make it 20 seconds.

:38:33. > :38:37.Perhaps we are denigrating that chase back a little too much,

:38:37. > :38:41.because that was the time gap coming out of the swim. We had the

:38:41. > :38:45.first group within eight, ten seconds and then that gap coming

:38:45. > :38:49.through, so perhaps we are pre- empting this. Maybe we are calling

:38:49. > :38:54.it too early. You look at the five at the front they appear to be

:38:54. > :38:58.working so hard, the chase pack coming through, maybe because it is

:38:58. > :39:04.bigger, I think that might be Noble there at the head of the second

:39:04. > :39:07.chase pack, that is interesting, a first time Olympic reputation for

:39:07. > :39:15.Gavin. First time for a Irish triathlete to get into the Olympic

:39:15. > :39:21.game, this seems a huge pace at the front. If they are not moving away,

:39:21. > :39:26.then it is a forcable -- forceful effort in the chase pack. Look at

:39:26. > :39:30.the crowds. Astonishing numbers have turned out to watch the

:39:30. > :39:34.Olympic triathlon which has caught the public imagination with the

:39:34. > :39:37.Brownlee brothers on all the front pages this morn, a lot of them.

:39:37. > :39:41.They are back passing the Serpentine and the pace, you are

:39:41. > :39:47.right, I don't think I have ever seen such a furious pace at the

:39:47. > :39:51.front of the field, as Alistair, just seizes to his left. Et let's

:39:52. > :39:58.them take it up as they hit the blue carpet to complete lap one of

:39:58. > :40:03.seven, so six kilometres down, a total time of 26 minutes, and three

:40:03. > :40:08.seconds, one lap down, six to go on the bike. What a start! There we

:40:08. > :40:13.are going to get a proper time split. My unofficial one was round

:40:13. > :40:18.20 seconds. As we see the leaders going through the transition areas,

:40:18. > :40:22.at the end of that one, it is just round there, 21 seconds, so that is

:40:22. > :40:27.going to be a lot of hard work. It will be a huge decision on the next

:40:27. > :40:30.couple of laps to stay out there. I wonder if Stuart heys in the chase

:40:30. > :40:35.pack is playing any part. If he is getting to the front to slow it

:40:35. > :40:41.down a little. We haven't had a sighting. There he is, at the back.

:40:41. > :40:46.32. There he is, Stuart the Hayes coming through now, number 32.

:40:46. > :40:50.Stuart Hayes is trying to get involved here. Stuart's yob would

:40:50. > :40:54.be to get to front of the chase pack and to try and slow it down.

:40:54. > :40:59.Of course as soon as he does that, you can imagine the response, they

:40:59. > :41:03.are not going to allow him to do it. It's a tough call for him. That is

:41:03. > :41:08.where we had the crash earlier, that speed bump starting the lap is

:41:08. > :41:14.where Whitfield and number one, Chacon hit the Tarmac heavily.

:41:14. > :41:18.Haven't heard any more about them, as we watch the chase, this is

:41:18. > :41:24.group three now, coming through transition to complete lap number

:41:24. > :41:29.one.. It is. We still have some of the big names down there, Richard

:41:29. > :41:36.Murray one minute 14 down. That is a tough call. They just seem to be

:41:36. > :41:39.working so hard. Now... Here are the leaders, Gomez, Varga, Jonny

:41:39. > :41:44.Brownlee. Alistair Brownlee. This group of five. Swam together,

:41:44. > :41:50.exited the Serpentine together. Hit transition together and are leading

:41:50. > :41:54.the race together. Look at the pace they areing as they head along

:41:54. > :41:58.south carriage drive. This runs parallels with Knightsbridge they

:41:58. > :42:03.will hit Hyde Park Corner. Park Lane, Constitution Hill, Grosvenor

:42:03. > :42:08.place and Piccadilly, five of London's main thoroughfares to

:42:08. > :42:15.begin the descent again, down to the Palace, there is work going on

:42:15. > :42:19.n the chase group. 21 is the Swiss rider. He is calling the shots at

:42:19. > :42:23.the front of the chase group. I can see them splitting. We have those

:42:23. > :42:29.who are prepared to work turning round, Stuart Hayes, rightly, I am

:42:29. > :42:34.not going to be doing any work, I am going to sit back and see if

:42:34. > :42:39.anything develops on the latter half where he can add to the

:42:39. > :42:42.Brownlee Brownlees' chances of winning. I am sure they will get

:42:42. > :42:46.feedback from their coaches and manager, they know the time gap has

:42:46. > :42:50.stayed the same and they have got now, they have almost made their

:42:50. > :42:53.commitment, they have got to keep going through. If they get back-in

:42:53. > :42:58.to the chase pack, the amount of work, the hard work they have done

:42:58. > :43:03.at the front is going to take its toll on their legs as they go into

:43:03. > :43:07.the run. Even at this early stage. Passing Astbury house on the right

:43:07. > :43:12.which means that Hyde Park Corner is looming. The grand entrance

:43:13. > :43:16.there, they come out of the Queen Mother gates which gives them a

:43:16. > :43:21.wider exit. Not necessary with only five of them at the front. They

:43:21. > :43:26.hang a right down Park Lane before they dive under the Wellington arch

:43:26. > :43:29.again. They are now passing in front of the hotel on the right

:43:29. > :43:35.which used to be St George's Hospital there is nice bridge on

:43:35. > :43:39.the right. And they go through this section which takes them down

:43:39. > :43:43.Constitution Hill, for the second time. Under the Wellington arch,

:43:43. > :43:53.the speed has not eased up. These five are really pushing hard at the

:43:53. > :44:03.

:44:03. > :44:11.on. Gomez would like that, Alistair Brownlee and Jonny Brownlee would

:44:11. > :44:21.like that. Unofficially we had around the same time gap. The chase

:44:21. > :44:24.

:44:24. > :44:32.group coming down through part of the memorial gates. Gomez takes his

:44:32. > :44:39.turn to force the pace of the front of the field.

:44:39. > :44:47.Coming down towards the palace for the second time. I am told that the

:44:47. > :44:56.time gap is down to 18 seconds. So the chase group not having an easy

:44:56. > :45:01.ride, having to work desperately hard.

:45:01. > :45:10.It is going to be difficult to have any kind of fresh legs going into

:45:10. > :45:15.the final round. Let us see what Chrissie Wellington it looks to

:45:16. > :45:24.make of the dynamics developing. Will the brothers have found

:45:24. > :45:32.themselves in an incredible position. They are working really

:45:32. > :45:39.hard. They are sharing the load. Using the draft behind to each

:45:39. > :45:45.other's wheels to conserve a little bit of energy. Each one of them

:45:45. > :45:55.taking a lead at the front. And the same strategy is being used by the

:45:55. > :46:02.

:46:02. > :46:09.chase pack to try to close the gap. The New Zealanders are starting to

:46:09. > :46:19.pull out at the head of that pack. You can see the chase group now

:46:19. > :46:30.

:46:30. > :46:37.closing the gap. The gap is now well under 20.

:46:38. > :46:47.Jan Frodeno, the defending champion. And there is Stuart Hayes, third

:46:48. > :47:02.

:47:02. > :47:08.has been a concerted struggle. Just think what is going through

:47:08. > :47:16.their heads now, the five at the front. They seemed just to be

:47:16. > :47:21.working so much harder with that smaller group.

:47:21. > :47:26.You can bet that Gomez and Alistair Brownlee and Jonny Brownlee are

:47:26. > :47:29.saying, up we have made that commitment. If we ease up now and

:47:29. > :47:39.go back into the second group then at our next will be more tired for

:47:39. > :47:44.

:47:44. > :47:54.the run. -- our legs. The crowd had to get up early to get such a great

:47:54. > :48:01.

:48:01. > :48:11.advantage. In Hyde Park. -- vantage point. Varga sneaks in behind.

:48:11. > :48:14.

:48:14. > :48:19.Fabian taking his turn. And it is Alastair believes them through.

:48:19. > :48:29.it looks as if the gap has closed. Gavin Noble from Ireland at the

:48:29. > :48:34.

:48:34. > :48:42.head of the chase pack. The gap came down to 18. Nine seconds is

:48:42. > :48:52.now the gap. So will will shortly have a group of around 20 forming

:48:52. > :48:55.

:48:55. > :48:58.at the front of the field. Fabian looks over his shoulder. Stuart

:48:59. > :49:08.Hayes is with that group. A Londoner through and through.

:49:09. > :49:13.

:49:13. > :49:23.Thrilled to get the chance to race here. Jonny just getting a check on

:49:23. > :49:47.

:49:47. > :49:54.I did not see the defending Olympic champion, Jan Frodeno from Germany.

:49:54. > :49:59.We saw Petzold coming through. It is similar to the way that the

:49:59. > :50:05.women's race developed with that big early lead and then a lot of

:50:05. > :50:12.jockeying for position. The leaders had just begun lap three. Everyone

:50:12. > :50:22.working hard to try to get involved. Lots of encouragement, lots of chat

:50:22. > :50:36.

:50:36. > :50:46.between the riders. The brilliant Brownlee brothers out

:50:46. > :50:47.

:50:47. > :50:52.in front. The gap is certainly coming down. Lots of conversation

:50:52. > :50:58.going on in that front group. Notts of encouragement to the others.

:50:58. > :51:02.They have to try to keep going. They will be working hard to close

:51:02. > :51:12.the gap but they have to establish the position that they set out nice

:51:12. > :51:15.

:51:15. > :51:21.and early. They are working so well together as a team, that unit of

:51:22. > :51:28.five. Everyone trying to work hard. They

:51:28. > :51:38.want to stay in front, I do not know if they can.

:51:38. > :51:43.

:51:43. > :51:48.There will exit the park again shortly.

:51:48. > :51:57.Going right time Park Lane. Out onto the tarmac of the roads of

:51:57. > :52:05.west London. We have been speaking about that

:52:05. > :52:10.that closing down but they still have not closed it completely.

:52:10. > :52:18.You would think that the chasing pack, as soon as the got that close,

:52:18. > :52:24.they would be able to get onto it. Perhaps it is coming. Five seconds

:52:25. > :52:34.between No. 5 and number six. The groups will come together very

:52:35. > :52:36.

:52:36. > :52:46.shortly. The guys at the front know that the group is going to grow.

:52:46. > :52:53.

:52:53. > :53:03.Perhaps it is time just to conserve their legs. David Hauss taking a

:53:03. > :53:34.

:53:34. > :53:44.sites. This three Olympic ticket. The chasing group still way off the

:53:44. > :53:49.

:53:49. > :53:56.pace. And the front group has grown. It was five, it is now 22. Stuart

:53:56. > :54:04.Hayes, this is what he has been brought in to do. He was a reserve

:54:04. > :54:08.in Athens and had a double puncture in the Olympic trials in 2008 and

:54:08. > :54:15.now he has the chance finally to race in the Olympic Triathlon that

:54:15. > :54:25.matters most to him. And he is leading the competition.

:54:25. > :54:26.

:54:26. > :54:35.Alistair Brownlee look to forward and said, you go for it, Stewart.

:54:35. > :54:39.Vicky Holland is watching this race for us and let us catch up with her.

:54:39. > :54:47.It was an interesting break away with those five guys getting away.

:54:47. > :54:57.It was a pretty ideal situation for full stock the chasing pack, five

:54:57. > :55:02.or six of them in the front really doing most of the work. It has now

:55:02. > :55:12.come together. Stuart Heys straight to the front of that pack and he

:55:12. > :55:15.

:55:15. > :55:22.will trying -- be trying to make it as hard as possible for the others.

:55:22. > :55:28.Sapping their legs as much as possible.

:55:28. > :55:36.This is the chase group coming through. I beg your pardon, this is

:55:36. > :55:46.the leading group. And we think there are 22 strung out along the

:55:46. > :56:02.

:56:02. > :56:12.road. Vasiliev from Russia. He is always a threat. Jan Frodeno is now

:56:12. > :56:21.in that pack, the defending Olympic champion. The other two Russians

:56:21. > :56:25.have been having a fairly easy ride. With the three French athletes.

:56:25. > :56:29.They have been able to conserve their energy perhaps more than the

:56:29. > :56:39.athletes doing the work at the front. That is an interesting

:56:39. > :56:41.

:56:41. > :56:47.tactic, a high risk strategy. But it has worked for them.

:56:47. > :56:55.We are hearing that it is possible that Jonathan Bramley might have to

:56:55. > :56:58.incur and 15 second penalty for mounting his bike to early when he

:56:58. > :57:08.exited into transition after the swim. We will try to get

:57:08. > :57:19.

:57:19. > :57:29.confirmation on that. A fabulous performance from Gavin

:57:29. > :57:29.

:57:29. > :57:33.Noble from Ireland. Everything to play for us still. The three French

:57:33. > :57:38.athletes have managed to re- establish contact in the lead group

:57:39. > :57:48.and they have not worked too hard at all. Across the Serpentine

:57:49. > :57:52.

:57:52. > :58:00.Bridge. The pace is starting to move up again. The brothers at the

:58:00. > :58:04.front of the field. Murray of South Africa has been as

:58:04. > :58:14.strong contender throughout the season and is leading that chasing

:58:14. > :58:17.

:58:17. > :58:24.group. One minute and 17 seconds off the pace of the leaders. That

:58:24. > :58:28.is tough for Richard Murray. He knows that swimming is his weakness.

:58:28. > :58:33.If he can be in contention and he has great chances of winning the

:58:33. > :58:36.race. But to be detached from the leading pack because of the speed

:58:36. > :58:46.of that first discipline today, that makes it extra difficult for

:58:46. > :59:01.

:59:01. > :59:05.him. The duathlon is basically the triathlon without the swim.

:59:06. > :59:10.Unbelievable scenes. People standing on chairs, and on

:59:10. > :59:16.shoulders, trying to get a shot. For many people it will be their

:59:17. > :59:20.only chance to see an Olympics bought up close and personal. Such

:59:20. > :59:26.was the demand for the tickets when they first went on sale. And now

:59:26. > :59:32.they get a chance with this been a free event, to witness history in

:59:32. > :59:37.the making, potentially. A little conversation going on between

:59:37. > :59:47.Stuart Hayes and Gavin Noble. I wonder if they have developed some

:59:47. > :59:57.alternative strategy. Just some easing off on the pace. Almost a

:59:57. > :00:08.

:00:08. > :00:13.regrouping. Getting there energy park. For the 4th time. Out through

:00:13. > :00:19.the gates on this right hand town to take them down towards Hyde Park

:00:19. > :00:23.Corner, before heading towards Buckingham Palace. The 4th lap of

:00:23. > :00:28.seven is well under way. All three of the British triathletes are

:00:28. > :00:36.involved, plus Gavin Noble from the Republic of Ireland, are out there

:00:36. > :00:40.and in contention at this stage. The triathlon, those three sports,

:00:41. > :00:45.you never can tell. We look at it, we try to think ahead to what is

:00:45. > :00:50.going to happen. We saw the break in the swim, the Leeds pack getting

:00:50. > :00:54.away and thinking, with such class, they are going to be able to stay

:00:54. > :00:57.away -- the lead pack. They get caught within two or three laps and

:00:57. > :01:01.it puts a whole different complexion on what is happening. We

:01:01. > :01:05.said about the French and Russians staying at the back, they are still

:01:05. > :01:11.doing that, confidence they are going to be able to maintain that,

:01:11. > :01:16.knowing they will get into the 10 kilometre run with fresh legs.

:01:16. > :01:21.Docherty has played this extremely well. He is going to be gathering

:01:21. > :01:26.his energy, thinking, is there a chance for me to get a third

:01:26. > :01:30.Olympic medal? Everything to play for. Here they come, at the front

:01:30. > :01:37.of the palace once again. Buckingham Palace, the most popular

:01:37. > :01:47.place to visit in London. 24 metres high, 77,000 square metres of floor

:01:47. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :01:58.back of this group, taking it easy, letting the guys in the front do

:01:58. > :02:02.the work. I don't think they have the running power to challenge

:02:02. > :02:08.Gomez and the Brownlees. It is interesting, they are having to

:02:08. > :02:12.take it easy because they need all of their stamina for the run.

:02:12. > :02:17.many times, we have seen powerful, strong men, looking to get to the

:02:17. > :02:23.front of the bike. He is a heavy man on the run and he pushes it to

:02:23. > :02:30.the extreme. A different strategy. Bryukhankov, taking the chance to

:02:30. > :02:34.be sitting at the back. Here we go, Stuart Hayes takes his turn at the

:02:34. > :02:39.front, we are about halfway through the bike leg of the Olympic

:02:40. > :02:48.triathlon. We have just been trying to find out more about Jonny and

:02:48. > :02:52.his 15 second penalty. I have been up to the control box. Apparently,

:02:52. > :02:59.definitely a 15 second penalty for mounting the bike too early. We

:02:59. > :03:04.watched them come through. We did not see that. We would have noticed.

:03:04. > :03:09.They do have video evidence. If we could go back and have a look.

:03:09. > :03:14.Absolutely, it has to be one foot on the floor after you cross the

:03:14. > :03:17.line before you mount the bike. He could have taken off the fraction

:03:17. > :03:23.of a second too early. We didn't pick up on it at the time, it will

:03:23. > :03:32.be interesting to see it back. he appealed this? Unfortunately you

:03:33. > :03:38.not, if the penalty is given during the race. When does he take it?

:03:38. > :03:43.will have the option to take it at any point during the run. His first

:03:43. > :03:48.opportunity will be at the end of lap one. He could take it any lap

:03:48. > :03:52.until the very end. I would think he would take it at the end of the

:03:52. > :03:58.second of third lap. It will be a 15 second penalty, a stop and go

:03:58. > :04:02.where he has to wait. This is something they would have planned

:04:02. > :04:08.for, if they get a penalty, when they would try to take them?

:04:09. > :04:13.Absolutely. As an athlete you never want to have one you will consider

:04:13. > :04:16.when you might take it, in a situation where I believed I would

:04:16. > :04:22.be awarded a penalty earlier this year, had already planned which lap

:04:22. > :04:27.I would take it, so I was aware of that. Whether Jonny is currently

:04:27. > :04:31.aware, I don't know. His opposition will know he has to take a penalty.

:04:31. > :04:34.If he is in a group, they will know he has to drop out. They won't know

:04:34. > :04:40.that at this point. The numbers will go up on the board as they

:04:40. > :04:43.start the run. On the first lap, you will see the penalty board. As

:04:43. > :04:48.Jonny is such a marked man, his number will be known by virtually

:04:48. > :04:54.all of the field. They will know he has a penalty to take. That's the

:04:54. > :04:58.news from transition. Back to our commentators. Bad news bought

:04:58. > :05:02.Jonathan Brownlee. We saw him get the news a little earlier -- bad

:05:02. > :05:07.news for Jonathan Brown live. What is your take on this? I think that

:05:07. > :05:12.was fabulous insight from Vicky Holland. She is a great athlete and

:05:12. > :05:16.I think she's going to get even better. To really show us how the

:05:16. > :05:26.athletes are thinking... I am sure a lot of people will have bought,

:05:26. > :05:26.

:05:26. > :05:30.let's get that penalty taken as quickly as we can. The thinking is

:05:30. > :05:36.that let's may be used the first five kilometres, to try to break

:05:36. > :05:40.away. I am sure we will see a hard run coming from Jonny and of course

:05:40. > :05:48.Alastair, to try to get some time between himself and the rest of the

:05:48. > :05:53.field. So if they do that, they wore take some of the 15 seconds.

:05:53. > :05:58.What a situation to put yourself in in an Olympic final. Having said

:05:58. > :06:04.that, the Brownlees have won so comfortably at the top level so far

:06:04. > :06:08.this season, if you think back to how far Jonny was ahead of Hancock

:06:08. > :06:16.when he won in Madrid, he could have stopped for 15 seconds and

:06:16. > :06:22.still won the competition. He is not, despite having a 15 second

:06:22. > :06:28.penalty to take, he is not out of the medals. He is not. We have this

:06:28. > :06:38.tremendous depth of field. Alistair and Jonny bring a different

:06:38. > :06:44.

:06:44. > :06:49.Although dom's running is extremely strong, we have to take the

:06:49. > :06:59.dimensions of are the tactic will develop -- although Jonny's running

:06:59. > :07:02.is extremely strong. It is a huge decision that Jonny has got to make.

:07:02. > :07:08.I would go back to the insight from Vicky Holland, the inside was

:07:08. > :07:17.tremendous. I think racing hard in the first five kilometres, then the

:07:17. > :07:21.break. Vasiliev and Gemmell, 27 and 55. Forming a little splinter group.

:07:21. > :07:28.Trying to break away from the leaders. They will be reeled in

:07:28. > :07:34.pretty sharpish. Stuart Heys forces the pace at the front of that group.

:07:34. > :07:39.We are with the leaders as they make their way towards the exit of

:07:39. > :07:43.Hyde Park. They are well on their way, now on lap five of seven on

:07:43. > :07:47.the bike. Interesting, as soon as we saw the break go off, Stuart was

:07:47. > :07:54.there to cover. We had an indication of how fast he was

:07:55. > :07:59.because the gap almost went immediately to a single bike. It is

:07:59. > :08:03.so hard to break away. If you get away 20 or 30 metres, it is not

:08:03. > :08:07.significant. It has to be a sustained effort of five, six,

:08:07. > :08:17.seven minutes to try to establish the gap and get a significant time

:08:17. > :08:30.

:08:30. > :08:35.difference. That didn't happen. breakaway, paid the price, ran out

:08:35. > :08:41.of steam. He has grown since then and he won't make the same mistake

:08:41. > :08:46.twice. The Olympic history tends to tell us that it is in your second

:08:46. > :08:50.Olympic Games that you win your first gold medal. This is still

:08:50. > :08:58.such a new sport but if we take that on board, this is Alistair's

:08:58. > :09:03.second Olympic Games. He is a competitive. He has learned, he

:09:03. > :09:08.paid the price in Beijing. Now an experienced athlete, twice world

:09:08. > :09:14.champion, at senior level and the Olympic Games on home territory, he

:09:14. > :09:18.has everything to go for. Under the Wellington Arch for the 4th time,

:09:18. > :09:28.down constitution Hill towards the palace, through the memorial gates

:09:28. > :09:31.

:09:31. > :09:35.again. The memorial gates in operated by the Queen,

:09:35. > :09:41.commemorating the sacrifice of 5 million men from the Indian sub-

:09:41. > :09:49.continent, Africa and the Caribbean, during her Golden Jubilee in 2002.

:09:49. > :09:57.We have just celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. Vasiliev, going off again.

:09:57. > :10:01.We talked earlier about him doing the work at different. Because team

:10:01. > :10:07.tactics have become more and more a part of triathlon at this level,

:10:07. > :10:17.you have to think, is there a predetermined plan to get the

:10:17. > :10:21.

:10:21. > :10:27.Scilly have to go at the front. little shimmy around as they head

:10:27. > :10:34.back up constitution Hill. Up towards the park. The chasers are a

:10:34. > :10:38.minute and 24 seconds behind, as they come through the arch. They

:10:38. > :10:42.will eyeball each other. The chase group will eyeball the leaders,

:10:42. > :10:46.with the leaders heading up the hill and the chasers going down

:10:47. > :10:52.constitution Hill. The chasers will get a real idea of the work I have

:10:52. > :10:57.to do, to try to get involved in this lead group, which numbers

:10:57. > :11:07.about 22 at this stage. Perhaps it looks as if we are getting a bit of

:11:07. > :11:12.

:11:12. > :11:17.speed back at the front. The silly beginning to plan the end of the

:11:17. > :11:21.bike, the transition going into the run. In Jonny Brownlee's said, he

:11:21. > :11:28.will be dealing with the extra factor of the 15 second penalty,

:11:28. > :11:31.how he works with that. It is getting there. All of the time, the

:11:31. > :11:37.triathletes have to think ahead, what is happening in this

:11:37. > :11:40.discipline, how do we plan, how do we go forward so we go into the

:11:40. > :11:45.next disciplined enough recovered so that we can put our best in.

:11:45. > :11:50.Coming up to 58 minutes since the triathlon began in the water of the

:11:50. > :11:58.Serpentine. They are approaching the final third of the 5th lap of

:11:58. > :12:04.the bike, to round up of the 43 kilometres. Hayes at the front,

:12:04. > :12:09.Jonny Brownlee in second, still with the 15 second penalty to take.

:12:09. > :12:19.Alistair is playing a sensible game. He is sitting in 7th or eighth at

:12:19. > :12:20.

:12:20. > :12:26.this stage. Here are the chasers. have to say, co Alastair came back

:12:26. > :12:31.after his injuries, he raced at Blenheim, he was outstanding. He

:12:31. > :12:35.went to another event and along with Jonny Brownlee, they had the

:12:35. > :12:41.breakaway on the bike, they were quick back in. Even of the

:12:41. > :12:46.desperately hard bike ride, he was still able to run away from the

:12:46. > :12:53.field with a huge distance. He will have the confidence, despite what

:12:53. > :13:01.has happened. Riding with the Colombian, with a camera mounted on

:13:01. > :13:07.his front wheel. An interesting insight into the backstage. Now we

:13:07. > :13:17.get a look behind, this is the camera looking back behind the bike

:13:17. > :13:17.

:13:17. > :13:23.of the Brazilian. Brazil took their first gold medal in gymnastics

:13:23. > :13:30.yesterday. Hayes at the front, for Great Britain. What a moment for

:13:30. > :13:40.him in the middle race, in a crowd of this size. Stuart Hayes is doing

:13:40. > :13:55.

:13:55. > :14:01.what he was brought in to do, to Hayes is delighted, he was the

:14:01. > :14:04.alternative reserve, and he found it very frustrating to be at the

:14:04. > :14:12.championships and be a little outside. So for him to get another

:14:12. > :14:22.chance to race at his home Olympics is great. Five laps of seven are

:14:22. > :14:23.

:14:23. > :14:30.complete. Stuart Hayes leads the way. Alistair is tucked in in 7th

:14:30. > :14:40.or 8th position at this stage. Now they grow across the surplus dime -

:14:40. > :14:45.- they go across the Serpentine. You can just see the Albert

:14:45. > :14:55.Memorial in Kensington Gardens, as opposed to the Victoria Memorial

:14:55. > :15:04.

:15:04. > :15:14.which sits in front of Buckingham Richard Murray leading through.

:15:14. > :15:18.What sort of time gap do we have? Butterfield is in that group, too.

:15:18. > :15:27.Will they be able to run one minute and 10 seconds faster than the

:15:27. > :15:32.front pack? I think not. The gap has come down 10 seconds. They have

:15:32. > :15:37.taken some time out of the lead, but the leading group is still

:15:38. > :15:44.going well, as Jonny Brownlee drinks some water and pour some

:15:44. > :15:50.down his neck. Just trying to keep himself cool. He is aware that this

:15:50. > :15:57.triathlon has taken on a different element now. He has to take a 15

:15:57. > :16:07.second penalty. This is Kris Gemmell from New Zealand. Alistair

:16:07. > :16:14.

:16:14. > :16:19.is just tucked in behind no-ball working hard. He was brought in to

:16:19. > :16:25.do a job here for the British team, and it is a job he has done

:16:25. > :16:31.brilliantly so far. Interesting after Stewart was selected, talking

:16:31. > :16:35.to his wife, she said he wanted to go up with Alistair and Jonny, and

:16:35. > :16:41.his total focus moved away from triathlon and on to swimming and

:16:41. > :16:47.cycling. He is coming here with a specific aim, to make the race

:16:47. > :16:57.easier, better and more controlled fat Alistair and Jonny. He has done

:16:57. > :16:58.

:16:58. > :17:04.his work magnificently. They came down from Yorkshire on Saturday.

:17:04. > :17:14.Jonathan was getting set for the biggest race of his life. Here they

:17:14. > :17:16.

:17:16. > :17:23.go into the lap five. Here is Hyde Park corner. The the Spanish Javier

:17:23. > :17:27.Gomez is taking his turn at the front of the field. They have

:17:27. > :17:32.completed lap five and are into a lapse six now. An interesting

:17:32. > :17:37.development, people looking to try to get away. It is a high risk

:17:37. > :17:41.strategy, because if you work for it and you get dragged back in,

:17:41. > :17:50.then it's your legs are tired and you are not going to have a huge

:17:50. > :17:53.time difference and going into the 10 km run. If it does work,

:17:54. > :17:59.possibly. We saw on the women's race that the gap between the lead

:17:59. > :18:05.group and the chase group dropped dramatically on the last lap and a

:18:05. > :18:14.half. This doesn't seem to be happening here. Yet again, Vasiliev

:18:14. > :18:21.has gone to the front. This seems like a strategy. His two can

:18:21. > :18:28.patriots again to sit at the back and wait. Yes, he was six at the

:18:28. > :18:38.world championship event in Sydney. He finished 4th in Madrid. So he is

:18:38. > :18:43.

:18:43. > :18:49.inconsistent but at times talented Some have different ideas about how

:18:49. > :18:53.to approach this 6th lap than others. There is a bit of pressure,

:18:53. > :18:59.and on March the front of the field, well strung-out as they come down

:19:00. > :19:08.constitution Hill. Richard Murray is still holding second place there.

:19:08. > :19:18.We know how strong a runner he is. He ran for 18 minutes for the five

:19:18. > :19:26.

:19:26. > :19:34.kilometres, and that would give him a good time in contention.

:19:34. > :19:39.leaders are on their way up the hill. Stuart Hayes has let Jonathan

:19:39. > :19:42.Brownlee take a turn at the front. This is typical of Jonny Brownlee,

:19:42. > :19:50.barking instructions not only to his team-mates but to some of the

:19:50. > :19:56.others who may be doing less work at the front. So Stuart Hayes comes

:19:56. > :20:02.through to take it up at the front. No, actually, it is Alistair

:20:02. > :20:07.Brownlee, his brother. Alistair Brownlee is forcing the pace at the

:20:07. > :20:13.front of the triathlon at the climb up towards Hyde Park corner. He has

:20:13. > :20:20.opened up a gap. That is an interesting move. What has he

:20:20. > :20:29.decided to do? He is going at this late stage in the race, only a lap

:20:29. > :20:34.to go now. Am I prepared to take this race to everybody else? If

:20:34. > :20:39.they are going to try to catch me, to chase me, their legs will be

:20:39. > :20:44.tired, and I have the confidence that I will have the strength in my

:20:44. > :20:49.legs took out run the rest of this field. That is so brave and so

:20:49. > :20:55.interesting. He is coming back into the park, and the crowd are

:20:55. > :21:02.beginning to realise that they have a leader out on his own. Will he

:21:02. > :21:09.get reeled back in by the pack? Alistair Brownlee from Great

:21:09. > :21:13.Britain leads the Olympic triathlon. A little glance over his shoulder

:21:13. > :21:23.suggests it won't be long before he is back in the pack as they try to

:21:23. > :21:25.

:21:25. > :21:34.closing-down. So, let's head back to the studio and talk to Chris to

:21:34. > :21:43.find out what she thinks. Alistair clearly used the corner to try to

:21:43. > :21:50.break the pack. I think he wanted to sack the legs of his competitors.

:21:50. > :21:55.He is not afraid to use these short, sharp bursts of speed to force the

:21:55. > :22:01.others to try and catch him, and he knows he can still be fresh for the

:22:01. > :22:06.run, whereas they may have fatigued a little more quickly. Stuart Hayes

:22:06. > :22:13.is now coming to the front again, pushing the pace, as he has been

:22:13. > :22:19.brought in to do. Coming to the end of lap six of seven. Alistair's

:22:19. > :22:23.mini-break has been cancelled out and he is back with the pack.

:22:23. > :22:33.Stuart Hayes will get his name on top of the pile again as they come

:22:33. > :22:45.

:22:45. > :22:51.through transition. Toyama, Silva, Frodeno. Vigar, Bryukhankov. They

:22:51. > :23:01.are just a few seconds off the pace, lots of talented runners and strong

:23:01. > :23:10.legs available. They are on their way to complete the final lap of

:23:10. > :23:15.the bike course. I think we need to look very carefully at two athletes.

:23:15. > :23:24.Gomez has been in that league pack, content to sit back in 4th or 5th

:23:24. > :23:31.place, and he hasn't reacted to any of the breakaways. And very

:23:31. > :23:39.similarly, Jan Frodeno has followed very similar tactics, almost

:23:39. > :23:43.shadowing Gomez, sitting back in 8th, 10th, thinking ahead. If the

:23:43. > :23:49.Brownlees are thinking what they are thinking, let them do that, and

:23:49. > :23:54.if we can get an advantage, that might make a difference. No real

:23:54. > :24:03.change between the end of the last lap and this lap for the distance

:24:03. > :24:12.between the leaders and the chase group, it remains at about 1:11 or

:24:12. > :24:22.1:12. Javier Gomez, number 51, a winner on this course a couple of

:24:22. > :24:22.

:24:22. > :24:28.years ago when Alistair ran out of steam. I think there is almost a

:24:28. > :24:33.bit of a sense of frustration. These athletes are seeing that,

:24:33. > :24:36.despite their efforts, this fairly big pack has got back together.

:24:36. > :24:42.There will be all sorts of different mind games going on there

:24:42. > :24:47.now. Despite the effort, the athletes who have played it very

:24:47. > :24:51.cagily, they have got back into the lead pack without working too hard,

:24:51. > :24:57.knowing that a little bit of extra confidence and fresher legs, they

:24:57. > :25:04.will have the ability to work hard against Alistair Brownlee, Jonny

:25:04. > :25:10.Brownlee, Jan Frodeno. It will give the extra dimension, another throw

:25:10. > :25:15.of the dice. You have to wonder if the other members of this lead pack

:25:16. > :25:25.are aware of that. There is a flash of green and gold. The Australians

:25:26. > :25:26.

:25:26. > :25:35.took a bronze in the women's triathlon on Saturday. Courtney

:25:35. > :25:42.Atkinson. Now currently forcing the pace is Richard raga. Their exit

:25:42. > :25:52.the park for the last time. The seventh and final lap. There will

:25:52. > :26:01.

:26:01. > :26:04.be one more whizz around the If we are calling his tactics right,

:26:04. > :26:09.we would expect him to start moving up in the next five or six minutes

:26:09. > :26:14.to try to get himself towards the front of the pack, because if he

:26:14. > :26:18.does have strong running legs, he wants to be there. If he comes in

:26:18. > :26:24.at the end of the pack, he will be a few seconds removed, and it will

:26:24. > :26:28.be a lot more crowded in there. So if he believes he can run with the

:26:28. > :26:34.the Brownlees, we will see him move up in the last couple of miles, the

:26:34. > :26:44.last few kilometres, as we approach the final transition. Stuart Hayes

:26:44. > :26:47.

:26:47. > :26:53.at the front of the field, forcing finish in Beijing four years ago,

:26:53. > :27:03.just stretching his back out. He has been pretty anonymous this

:27:03. > :27:09.season. But he hadn't done that well before he won in Beijing

:27:09. > :27:15.summer, so don't discount him. These preparations, the extra

:27:15. > :27:21.dimensions in triathlon, getting so well prepared. We have a break away,

:27:21. > :27:28.somebody charging up at the front of the chase group. Birdcage Walk,

:27:28. > :27:35.this little triangle opposite the Palace. This is where so many

:27:35. > :27:40.people fell in the women's race on Saturday. But apart from the

:27:40. > :27:45.beginning of the bike race, early in lap one, everybody has managed

:27:45. > :27:54.to stay on their wheels so far. The leaders will now I bawled the

:27:54. > :28:04.chasers once again. You can just see them on the left-hand side of

:28:04. > :28:13.

:28:13. > :28:23.up on the bike of Colucci of Brazil. They are coming down towards the

:28:23. > :28:26.palace. The leaders are now back on the uphill leg of Constitution Hill.

:28:26. > :28:30.Now everybody is starting to position themselves to give

:28:30. > :28:38.themselves the best position, the best chance, heading back into Hyde

:28:38. > :28:44.Park. Now, is that Bryukhankov coming in on the right hand side?

:28:44. > :28:48.Yes, it is, number two will stop we thought this might happen. He had

:28:48. > :28:53.been sitting back and resting his legs, and now he is just beginning

:28:53. > :29:00.to move up very gradually. Hopefully no one will notice me, he

:29:00. > :29:03.thinks, and I will get out there and give it 100%. We have seen him

:29:03. > :29:11.try to challenge Alistair and Jonny Brownlee before, and they have been

:29:11. > :29:19.too strong for him. Perhaps he hopes that his legs will be that

:29:19. > :29:25.little bit fresher for the run. hour and 15 minutes have passed now.

:29:25. > :29:29.We are on the final lap of the bike ride. They are on the red tarmac of

:29:29. > :29:34.Hyde Park, getting back into transition, where they have got to

:29:34. > :29:38.get things right. Remember that Jonny Brownlee was penalised be

:29:38. > :29:43.getting on his bike at the wrong time. Everybody will be making sure

:29:43. > :29:48.they get off their bikes at the correct stage when they come into

:29:48. > :29:54.transition. Stuart Hayes glances over his shoulder. He can see

:29:54. > :29:58.Alistair, and Jonny is a couple of places behind him. Atkinson of

:29:58. > :30:03.Australia is on the right. They are all starting to think about

:30:03. > :30:07.transition, and they will start to slip their feet out of their shoes

:30:07. > :30:17.and place them on top to make it an easy dismount as they hit the blue

:30:17. > :30:23.

:30:23. > :30:33.thing for the Brownlees brothers. Gavin no-ball of the Republic of

:30:33. > :30:38.

:30:38. > :30:44.Ireland makes his move. -- Gavin noble. Kris Gemmell comes in first.

:30:44. > :30:48.They run alongside their bikes. We keep our eyes on the man at the

:30:48. > :30:57.front, Alistair Brownlee. His younger brother is parallel with

:30:57. > :31:04.him. They will put their running shoes on. Alistair is on the right,

:31:04. > :31:10.Jonny is on the left. Jonathan has the 15 second penalty. They are on

:31:10. > :31:19.their way. Gomez and Luis have been joined at the front by the Brownlee

:31:19. > :31:25.brothers. He they now head out for a ten-metre run around the park.

:31:25. > :31:30.Stuart Hayes' work is done, he will still run and finish the race, but

:31:30. > :31:33.we have four or five who have kicked away from the front of the

:31:34. > :31:40.field at the second transition. Alistair Brownlee leads the Olympic

:31:40. > :31:46.triathlon, his brother Jonny is on his shoulders. Such professionalism

:31:46. > :31:50.by Stuart Hayes. We were watching everybody preparing. Tyler

:31:50. > :31:54.Butterfield is coming through, he has been working on the longer

:31:54. > :31:58.distances recently. Stuart Hayes kept his shoes on right into

:31:58. > :32:03.transition. He had to give up those few seconds but that was his job

:32:03. > :32:08.and he did so well. Well done, for Great Britain. Into this 10

:32:08. > :32:13.kilometre run, a bit of a false dawn to start with. The athlete

:32:13. > :32:20.pretty much get out together. Then we see the jockeying and the hard

:32:20. > :32:28.work. We will see if Alistair and Jonny have been prepared to work at

:32:28. > :32:32.the front, is Gomez going to go with them. We saw him play his

:32:32. > :32:38.raised to an ideal situation, the Russian. Stay at the back, work

:32:38. > :32:43.himself through and give himself every opportunity. The other two

:32:43. > :32:49.Spaniards have arrived at their transition. Alistair Brownlee leads

:32:49. > :32:59.on are the first lap of four to compete this 10,00-metre run.

:32:59. > :33:13.

:33:13. > :33:21.Zealand, Vasiliev. There is ain't - - and out and back at the start of

:33:21. > :33:29.the lap. The Brownlee boys and Gomez have opened up a lead of four

:33:29. > :33:33.seconds to the next best. This is crucial for Jonny Brownlee, he has

:33:33. > :33:38.to go away with the Leeds pack. He has the 15th second penalty to

:33:38. > :33:43.serve later on. The speed of that, my goodness. Alistair Brownlee

:33:43. > :33:49.looks like an 800-metre runner going through there. Johnny,

:33:49. > :33:55.covering everything. They have put their market down early. This

:33:55. > :34:02.really is 100% effort from the first step. Passing in front of the

:34:02. > :34:06.Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. You could see the massive group of

:34:06. > :34:16.people watching on the big screen in Hyde Park, enjoying the

:34:16. > :34:21.

:34:21. > :34:26.competition. Alistair Brownlee starting to make a move through the

:34:26. > :34:31.field. Unofficially, they are trying to take a time split again.

:34:31. > :34:35.Already, I think we have nine seconds between our three leaders.

:34:35. > :34:39.Jonny Brownlee decided what he needed to do to get rid of this 15

:34:39. > :34:49.second penalty. You know what? If he carries on running like this, he

:34:49. > :34:53.

:34:53. > :34:58.could serve the penalty and still absolutely extraordinary.

:34:58. > :35:03.Phenomenal numbers have come out today to support the Brownlee

:35:03. > :35:06.brothers. And the athletes from all over the world. Everybody is

:35:06. > :35:12.getting well-supported at the London Games. Today, they want to

:35:12. > :35:20.see another gold medal for Great Britain. 18 gold medals so far for

:35:20. > :35:25.Team GB. Can Alistair or Jonny deliver 19? Cell of Portugal,

:35:25. > :35:30.Bryukhankov of Russia, Vidal of France. The three French guys are

:35:30. > :35:38.tightly bunched together. They look exhausted compared to the three at

:35:38. > :35:43.the front. Alistair, Jonathan and Gomez of Spain, 1, 2 and 3.

:35:43. > :35:51.Tactically, how well the French did, three athletes in the top 12. They

:35:51. > :35:57.have superb -- they have saved their legs. It has almost gone to

:35:57. > :36:01.script. We are so used to seeing surprises and the unexpected.

:36:01. > :36:04.Everybody's thoughts at the beginning, Alistair Brownlee, Jonny

:36:05. > :36:11.Brownlee and Javier Gomez will be the three players and so it has

:36:11. > :36:21.proved. You have to say, the Dixon tactics come into play in triathlon

:36:21. > :36:32.

:36:32. > :36:39.are making themselves felt -- the Konno Gomez is a very good runner.

:36:39. > :36:45.He has tasted success on this course already Allsop he was second

:36:45. > :36:51.in Hamburg, third behind the brothers. He knows what he has got

:36:51. > :36:59.to do, he knows he has to keep tabs on them to hamper their opportunity

:36:59. > :37:04.of -- to have an opportunity of getting in the medals. He will also

:37:04. > :37:07.note that Jonny has a 15 second penalty -- he will also know that.

:37:07. > :37:12.Gomez has to stay with the Brownlees, but he cannot afford to

:37:12. > :37:17.let it go to a sprint. When we get to the last two-and-a-half, three

:37:17. > :37:22.kilometres, I think Javier Gomez will have to make a break to go

:37:22. > :37:28.early. If he does try to stay there, I don't think that will be

:37:28. > :37:33.successful. Again, we have got to bring back the other element of the

:37:33. > :37:39.15 second penalty that Jonny Brownlee has to serve. These are

:37:39. > :37:49.the chasers, Bryukhankov with them. They approach the end of the first

:37:49. > :37:54.

:37:54. > :38:00.Javier Gomez of Spain is second, Jonathan Brownlee is third. They

:38:00. > :38:05.have just passed the penalty box, we will see if Jonny stands in

:38:05. > :38:11.there for the 15 seconds, possibly, at the end of the second lap. They

:38:11. > :38:14.have just completed the first. Vicky, those were the three we

:38:14. > :38:17.would have predicted to be right at the front. Absolutely. It doesn't

:38:18. > :38:22.always happen in the Olympic Games but those are the three favourites,

:38:22. > :38:27.it is good to see them running away. They have got a clear gap, Jonny

:38:27. > :38:32.still has a penalty to take. It is not game over. They have a good gap

:38:32. > :38:36.on the next group coming through. Johnny could use the penalty to his

:38:36. > :38:40.advantage and try to use that to help overhaul Gomez as a potential

:38:40. > :38:45.break in the race. The nothing to worry about, he is still in medal

:38:45. > :38:55.contention. Derry family. It will depend what colour, with a bit of

:38:55. > :39:10.

:39:10. > :39:14.the pace at the front of this Olympic triathlon race, as they

:39:14. > :39:20.cross the Serpentine Bridge. And they go out and back to begin the

:39:20. > :39:26.second of four laps. Great input from Vicky Holland, thinking ahead.

:39:26. > :39:29.15 seconds, maybe 16, the time gap between our three leaders and the

:39:30. > :39:34.chasing pack. If Jonathan decides to take the penalty at the end of

:39:34. > :39:43.lap number two, when he comes out of the penalty box, he will have

:39:43. > :39:46.other athletes around him. We have seen it previously, that the

:39:46. > :39:50.thinking time means that the athlete comes out very highly

:39:50. > :39:56.motivated and determined to do well. As the Vicky said, certainly not

:39:56. > :40:01.all over for Jonny by any means. He could make it work to his advantage.

:40:01. > :40:04.They come around the out and back. We see the time difference between

:40:04. > :40:12.the front three and the chasers as they are eyeball each other on the

:40:12. > :40:18.way back into the centre of Hyde Park. Vidal and Hauss and one of

:40:18. > :40:23.the Russians, it is about 21 seconds, the gap between the front

:40:23. > :40:33.three and the chasing three. three French athletes are currently

:40:33. > :40:47.

:40:47. > :40:57.front. The added interest of the 15 seconds to be taken. Does Jonny --

:40:57. > :41:01.

:41:01. > :41:11.have the leg speed? A what I am not sure he will go back with Gomez but

:41:11. > :41:21.

:41:21. > :41:24.he could still be in contention for not an easy looking runner.

:41:24. > :41:31.Alistair continues to push the pace out in front of this Olympic

:41:31. > :41:36.triathlon. Javier Gomez on his shoulder, watching and waiting. It

:41:36. > :41:42.is Jonny Brownlee who is there at this stage. Javier Gomez has done

:41:42. > :41:47.everything that has been asked of him. He has covered every single

:41:47. > :41:52.move, every single acceleration. Look at these pictures in the park,

:41:52. > :41:56.absolutely extraordinary. Sorry to interrupt. Unbelievable numbers

:41:56. > :42:06.watching on the big screen. I am not surprised, I refer to it

:42:06. > :42:11.

:42:11. > :42:14.earlier. I think the organiser of night, there were getting into the

:42:14. > :42:22.park at 5:30am to get a position and I was laughing at them. I was

:42:22. > :42:29.wrong. If they arrived for the start of the race, there would not

:42:29. > :42:34.have got in. To me, the fascination is coming down to what happens when

:42:34. > :42:44.Jonny takes the 15 second gap. Is he going to be able to get back on

:42:44. > :42:49.

:42:49. > :42:57.to the leaders? You could not write in a second and put himself in the

:42:57. > :43:00.penalty box to take the 15 seconds that he was dished out for, for

:43:00. > :43:07.mounting his bike too early on the way out of transition after the

:43:07. > :43:14.swim. Alistair kicks at the front, a little uphill moment for a few

:43:14. > :43:20.yards. He decided to move the pace up a fraction as well. These are

:43:20. > :43:30.the guys in 4th, 5th and 6. Bryukhankov is in 7th at this stage.

:43:30. > :43:42.

:43:42. > :43:48.Lorant Vidal -- Laurent Vidal is in they came out of the water. The

:43:48. > :43:54.signs are clear for Jonny Brownlee to save. They say, penalty box, 200

:43:54. > :44:04.metres. He knows exactly where to go to take what is effectively a 15

:44:04. > :44:09.

:44:09. > :44:14.something else comes into play, as well. Alistair is leading, Javier

:44:14. > :44:19.Gomez in second. I am pretty sure they both think they can out sprint

:44:19. > :44:22.Gomez. Would there be any possibility of Alistair Brownlee

:44:22. > :44:30.gradually slowing the pace down so that his brother can get back to

:44:30. > :44:34.them? I can't believe that he would take the chance of doing that and

:44:34. > :44:41.negate his sprint finish, but you don't know with these two. They

:44:41. > :44:46.have proved so many times that they can finish one and two. It is

:44:46. > :44:52.amazing the amount of times they have put between themselves and the

:44:52. > :44:57.chasing athletes into laps. So even when Jonny serves that penalty, he

:44:57. > :45:04.will come out in bronze medal position. Suddenly the whole race

:45:04. > :45:13.takes on a Formula One element. He wants to going for the penalty but

:45:13. > :45:21.still emerge in front of his competitors. And he is not taking

:45:21. > :45:31.account this time. We think he is waiting until the end of lap three

:45:31. > :45:38.

:45:38. > :45:44.to go into the penalty box. Just that long shot there within

:45:44. > :45:49.indication of the gap. What a great performance these French athletes

:45:49. > :45:58.have had. If this was a team competition, wouldn't they be

:45:58. > :46:06.winning it? To re emphasise, despite Jonny Brownlee's penalty

:46:06. > :46:11.that he has to take, he would still be in contention for bronze. Just

:46:11. > :46:17.2.5 kilometres to go. Does he feel he would have the ability to sprint

:46:17. > :46:23.back to Gomez? Anything is possible. What a race this has turned out to

:46:23. > :46:29.be. Alistair need to push along at the front of the field. Jonny

:46:29. > :46:34.Brownlee allowing a few metres to former between him in third and the

:46:34. > :46:39.two leaders out in second and first. Jonny Brownlee is struggling out to

:46:39. > :46:46.maintain this sort of pace, and he still has a 15 second penalty to

:46:46. > :46:53.come. Maybe he is now just focusing on the bronze medal. Alistair is

:46:53. > :46:58.heading out with Gomez for company. And there it is the first time we

:46:59. > :47:03.have seen any weaknesses in Jonny Brownlee's armoury at all. Maybe

:47:03. > :47:07.the maintenance of that speed has created that gap. And now the mind

:47:08. > :47:13.games will start. He has worked so hard to stay with the others at the

:47:13. > :47:21.front, and if has not been able to do that, has he blown it? What will

:47:21. > :47:26.happen when he takes his 15 seconds? These will be the thoughts.

:47:26. > :47:32.If that time difference multiply as and multiply as, it will bring the

:47:32. > :47:38.French athletes back in contention. Berry's six seconds now between

:47:38. > :47:46.Alistair in first and Jonathan in third. The leaders are now Alistair

:47:46. > :47:50.Brownlee of Great Britain, Javier Gomez of Spain. On the third lap of

:47:50. > :47:55.four on the triathlon. Another penalty being taken, the Argentine

:47:56. > :48:03.has been sent into the penalty box. He has taken his, and that is what

:48:03. > :48:10.will happen to Jonathan later. And now Alistair has made a move on

:48:10. > :48:16.Gomez. It is not race-winning daylight, but it is a significant

:48:16. > :48:23.move at the front of the field Alistair Brownlee. He has now got a

:48:23. > :48:29.gap of 1.5 seconds over Javier Gomez of Spain. And this is just

:48:29. > :48:34.where you might imagine that Javier Gomez would make his move. He needs

:48:34. > :48:39.to try on the third lap to get away from this printing capabilities of

:48:39. > :48:43.Alistair Brownlee. Alistair knows that. It is not a significant gap,

:48:43. > :48:50.but there is a 10m base, and that perhaps would give Jonny Brownlee a

:48:50. > :48:56.little hope as well. Alistair Brownlee leaves the Olympic

:48:56. > :49:01.triathlon ahead of Javier Gomez of Spain. There are tens of thousands

:49:01. > :49:09.watching on the giant screens in Hyde Park, and alongside the

:49:09. > :49:18.Serpentine they are 10, 12, 15 deep in places. Gomez is not allowing

:49:18. > :49:23.Alistair Brownlee to get too far in front of him. The Spanish flags are

:49:23. > :49:28.in evidence alongside the Serpentine as well. Third out of

:49:29. > :49:33.the water, 4th after the bike, but he was always with the the Leeds.

:49:33. > :49:40.The French runners currently battling for 4th and 5th at this

:49:40. > :49:46.stage. It is such a tough call for Javier Gomez, with the two brothers,

:49:46. > :49:54.the Brownlee boys, all the energy in Hyde Park, every country

:49:54. > :50:01.represented, but huge, huge shouts, cheers, applause for the Brown

:50:01. > :50:09.leads -- the Brownlees. Can he used that to try to get himself back

:50:09. > :50:13.into contention? I don't think that gap has opened any more at all. It

:50:13. > :50:19.is almost like an invisible elastic band, he is trying to draw himself

:50:19. > :50:25.back in. To me, it looks as though Jonny Brownlee went through a bad

:50:25. > :50:31.patch, but he has re-established the cadence. He has his eye is

:50:31. > :50:36.totally focused on Gomez, and Alistair Brownlee is looking as if

:50:36. > :50:46.he could have made an important break. Brownlee leads the way, he

:50:46. > :50:46.

:50:46. > :50:50.has opened a gap of about 10m now. Harris and the Dahl are contending

:50:50. > :51:00.for bronze if they can move up one journey Brownlee after he takes his

:51:00. > :51:04.

:51:04. > :51:11.penalty. It is not all over by any means. The penalty times, wreath --

:51:11. > :51:17.we think about that, but the French runners are running a kg race,

:51:17. > :51:21.knowing that Jonny has got to make that penalty. They think if they

:51:21. > :51:31.can get into the final lap alongside him, we could see one of

:51:31. > :51:32.

:51:32. > :51:37.the French athletes taking a medal. Alistair Brownlee leads, Javier

:51:37. > :51:44.Gomez in second, and Jonny Brownlee still with a penalty to take is in

:51:44. > :51:49.third. Alistair maintains his focus at the front. Keeping up a good

:51:49. > :51:55.rhythm, good speed here. Look at the encouragement he is receiving

:51:55. > :52:03.along the way. Alistair Brownlee from rare West Yorkshire leading

:52:04. > :52:09.the Olympic triathlon through Hyde Park. Keeping a decent gap from the

:52:09. > :52:15.man who is going for the silver medal, Javier Gomez. And Jonny is

:52:15. > :52:19.heading for the penalty box. He will have to stop and stand, and

:52:19. > :52:24.time will tick past very slowly for Jonny Brownlee as he takes his

:52:24. > :52:34.place in the penalty box. He has gone in behind that screen, and he

:52:34. > :52:39.will have to watch. 10 seconds. He keeps himself moving. Another

:52:39. > :52:44.couple of seconds and he will be released. And he is away again! He

:52:44. > :52:49.stumbled as he came out of the penalty box, but Great Britain are

:52:49. > :52:56.still on for two out of the three Olympic medals here. Maybe Gomez

:52:56. > :53:04.will tire as Jonny looks over his shoulder to see how close the

:53:04. > :53:09.French runners are. He is still in bronze medal position. A five-

:53:09. > :53:13.second gap, two-and-a-half kilometres to go. What is the time

:53:13. > :53:19.gap between Gomez and Jonny Brownlee? That is what we are

:53:19. > :53:24.looking for. The difference between Alistair and Gomez is five, and the

:53:24. > :53:34.difference between Gomez and Brownlee is another 27 seconds.

:53:34. > :53:39.That really is a tough catch. French guys are another 13 seconds

:53:39. > :53:46.behind Jonny. He has a 13 second cushion to hold onto that bronze

:53:46. > :53:50.medal. And that's not much at all. We saw how he was suffering at the

:53:50. > :53:56.beginning of lap number three. It will have broken his rhythm, going

:53:56. > :54:00.into the penalty box, perhaps taken a little bit of confidence. At the

:54:01. > :54:05.moment, it looks very much like Alistair Brownlee and Javier Gomez,

:54:05. > :54:14.but I think everything is to play for in the bronze. It is not over

:54:14. > :54:24.by any means. Alistair Brownlee is on his way on the final lap. Less

:54:24. > :54:24.

:54:24. > :54:29.than 2.5 kilometres to run. The gap is no significant as they

:54:29. > :54:33.approached for the last time. Jonathan Brownlee maintains his

:54:33. > :54:39.position in third, and looks to be more comfortable than he was before

:54:39. > :54:46.he entered the penalty box. A moment Alistair to enjoy as he

:54:46. > :54:52.passes Gomez. Gomez comes around the yellow marker and out and back.

:54:52. > :54:58.And now the two brothers will see each other. In first on the left,

:54:58. > :55:08.Alistair. In third on the right, Jonathan. And between them is Gomez

:55:08. > :55:14.of Spain. Here are the two French triathletes, doing battle for 4th

:55:14. > :55:21.and 5th at this stage unless they can find some speed over this last

:55:21. > :55:28.two kilometres. That is absolutely fascinating. Alistair Brownlee

:55:28. > :55:38.running so strongly, he looks to be moving happily away. The crowd are

:55:38. > :55:42.cheering him on. So many British supporters there, a wall of sound.

:55:42. > :55:47.And on the long shot, just beginning to move away quite

:55:47. > :55:55.significantly. One kilometre for Alistair Brownlee, the leader in

:55:55. > :56:00.the Olympic triathlon. He has timed it brilliantly so far. Gomez has so

:56:00. > :56:07.far had no response on the run. He is running for silver from Spain

:56:07. > :56:14.here. He has triumphed in Hyde Park in the past. It looks at the moment

:56:14. > :56:23.as if he will have to settle for second best from Alistair today.

:56:23. > :56:26.And what a race Alistair has had. He requires the skills of Michael

:56:26. > :56:32.Phelps followed by some of them Bradley Wiggins and Mo Farah's

:56:33. > :56:40.ability at the end, to run at the 10 K after all the efforts that

:56:40. > :56:45.have gone before. Alistair Brownlee is the best so far, and he is

:56:45. > :56:52.approaching the end of his Olympic triathlon in good shape. Alistair I

:56:52. > :56:57.know will be absolutely delighted to win this event. It is still

:56:57. > :57:03.fascinating, looking at Gomez working so hard there, he will not

:57:03. > :57:09.give up. But he does seem a little isolated. Does Jonny Brownlee have

:57:09. > :57:14.anything left to catch him for the silver medal? The gap is enormous

:57:14. > :57:23.now alongside the Serpentine. There is the second place man, Javier

:57:23. > :57:28.Gomez. Brownlee heads towards the crowds on the side of the course he

:57:28. > :57:32.or are roaring him through the biggest race of his life so far. He

:57:32. > :57:38.is looking weary, looking tired, but he has surely got enough in his

:57:38. > :57:42.legs to finish the job in Hyde Park today, and take the gold medal.

:57:42. > :57:50.Gomez rounds the corner and glances back to have a look, position of

:57:50. > :57:55.Jonathan Brownlee, who stays in bronze medal position. What does

:57:55. > :57:59.that look tell us? Is Gomez feeling a little tired and worrying about

:57:59. > :58:06.Jonny Brownlee coming back on him? Or is he looking back and thinking,

:58:06. > :58:11.I have more than enough gap now. Jonny Brownlee coming through,

:58:11. > :58:16.looking back at the tiny bit fresher now. He is not giving up on

:58:16. > :58:20.this silver medal. He will chase and chase and chase. There is the

:58:20. > :58:28.man who currently has the silver medal, being hunted down by

:58:28. > :58:34.Jonathan Brownlee. The French pair have spread. It is an 18 second gap

:58:34. > :58:38.now between the lead and third place, between Alistair in first

:58:38. > :58:42.and Jonathan in third position here as we have a look at some of the

:58:42. > :58:52.others. For a day no one not successfully defend his

:58:52. > :58:58.

:58:58. > :59:06.quest for a gold in Hyde Park. Look at the scenes either side this

:59:06. > :59:10.stretch of tarmac by the turpentine -- the Serpentine. He is giving it

:59:10. > :59:16.everything. He is glancing over his shoulder, he is obviously feeling

:59:16. > :59:22.the pace. Gomez drenches himself, trying to keep himself cool.

:59:22. > :59:29.Alistair Brownlee is digging deep, but still with an injection of pace,

:59:29. > :59:33.as he tries to finish in style. Gomez, in silver-medal position,

:59:33. > :59:39.they come past the penalty area. Once they hit the blue carpet, we

:59:39. > :59:44.will know it is nearly done for Alistair Brownlee. I just wonder if

:59:44. > :59:49.it is going through Alistair's head, what happened a couple of years ago.

:59:49. > :59:53.It is not going to happen today. We are seeing the first British

:59:53. > :59:57.Olympic triathlon champion in the guise of Alistair Brownlee. He

:59:57. > :00:02.knows he has got it now. It has been an absolutely fabulous

:00:02. > :00:07.performance. This is effectively a lap of honour for Alistair Brownlee,

:00:07. > :00:13.as he slows down to a jog on the blue carpet. He has got the Union

:00:13. > :00:18.Jack around his shoulders. He can walk across the line. Alistair

:00:18. > :00:23.Brownlee is the Olympic triathlon champion. Great Britain's 19s gold

:00:23. > :00:29.medal of the Games goes to Alistair Brownlee. Javier Gomez takes the

:00:30. > :00:36.silver. There will be both of the brilliant Brownlee brothers on the

:00:36. > :00:44.Olympic podium as Jonathan comes home for bronze. He had to stand

:00:44. > :00:49.and take a 15 second penalty. But he has done enough to hold on. A 15

:00:49. > :00:53.second gap and still the bronze medal for Jonathan. Tremendous. He

:00:53. > :00:58.is going to be absolutely delighted. We can't take anything away from

:00:58. > :01:05.Javier Gomez. He would not give in, he worked and he worked. So did

:01:05. > :01:07.David Hauss, a tactic is superb race, he has learnt that position.

:01:07. > :01:17.Laurent Vidal comes through, he looked to be going through a tough

:01:17. > :01:20.

:01:20. > :01:25.period. What a great day for Great Britain and Yorkshire. A fabulous

:01:25. > :01:35.performance by Javier Gomez in the silver-medal position. Goodness me,

:01:35. > :01:35.

:01:35. > :01:40.what a race it was. Co Riederer of Switzerland, hoping to make it a

:01:40. > :01:48.Swiss double following the victory in the women's race on Saturday. In

:01:48. > :01:58.the end, Alistair was too good. What an advert for Great Britain

:01:58. > :01:58.

:01:58. > :02:05.triathlon. It has been a long time coming. We have had pre-race

:02:05. > :02:12.favourites before. A week have come to London, told years on from

:02:12. > :02:16.Sydney, and taken a gold medal, Alistair Brownlee. Docherty

:02:16. > :02:26.finishing now, silver medallist in Athens, the bronze medallist in

:02:26. > :02:35.

:02:36. > :02:42.for some of the mind or places -- minor places. Bryukhankov was the

:02:42. > :02:48.best of the Russians. Fabian was one of the first out of the water,

:02:48. > :02:56.Luis in the 11th. Hunter Kemper completing his 4th Olympic

:02:56. > :03:00.triathlon. This man had such a big started the season, winning the

:03:00. > :03:05.World Championships event in Sydney. -- big start to the season. He

:03:05. > :03:10.hasn't been able to follow it up with any decent result since then.

:03:10. > :03:16.We'll keep an eye it on Stuart Hayes, who came and did his job

:03:16. > :03:26.superbly in the water and on the bike. Stuart Hayes was never going

:03:26. > :03:32.to feature in the 10,000-metre run at the end of the triathlon. It is

:03:32. > :03:37.all about Alistair Brownlee who has taken gold for Great Britain. There

:03:37. > :03:45.is Gavin Noble from the Republic of Ireland, finishing three minutes

:03:45. > :03:48.and 22 seconds off the pace. indication of how fast that run was.

:03:48. > :03:53.The athletes of this calibre, having three minutes taken out on

:03:53. > :03:56.this run. Stuart Hayes did a brilliant job and I am sure he gets

:03:56. > :04:03.into the finishing straight, the crowd will acknowledge what he has

:04:03. > :04:09.done for Great Britain. Chris has watched it all from the studio,

:04:09. > :04:14.let's see what she made of the gold medal. It was phenomenal. It is

:04:14. > :04:19.phenomenal for Alistair, great for Jonny, phenomenal for triathlon in

:04:19. > :04:23.Great Britain in general. It was a wonderful performance, it went

:04:23. > :04:29.exactly according to the script. Once they hit the run, there was no

:04:29. > :04:37.question of who was going to take the gold medal. So incredibly

:04:37. > :04:41.pleased for the two Brownlee brothers and Javier Gomez. This is

:04:41. > :04:45.how Alistair brought it home, with the flag around his shoulders. With

:04:45. > :04:50.enough daylight between he and Gomez in second to savour the

:04:50. > :05:00.moment, as he crossed the line to win the Olympic triathlon. On home

:05:00. > :05:04.

:05:04. > :05:13.soil. And there is Stuart Hayes, finishing now. 4:43 off the pace

:05:13. > :05:16.but he is absolutely shattered, he was brought in to do a job. A great

:05:16. > :05:20.performance by Stuart Hayes, who could not have done more on the

:05:21. > :05:25.bike section. He covered, every break that went, he was there and

:05:26. > :05:33.dominating the pace, taking advice from Alistair and Jonny, putting

:05:33. > :05:37.himself in the position they wanted to be in. A great performance.

:05:37. > :05:43.have just seen Stuart Hayes finish. Before he has had time to catches

:05:43. > :05:48.breath, Sonali Shah has tracked him down. -- catch his breath. What a

:05:48. > :05:52.performance from you. It is not me, it is the two Brownlees. I did my

:05:52. > :05:55.best to help them and it worked, the team tactics helped. Those guys

:05:55. > :05:59.are amazing, I have been training with them for the last month and I

:05:59. > :06:03.couldn't imagine anyone beating them, they are amazing. The crowd

:06:03. > :06:06.was unbelievable. I probably ran a personal best today. Just because

:06:06. > :06:09.of the emotion running past the of the emotion running past the

:06:09. > :06:12.crowd. It was a great race. helped Britain win its first

:06:12. > :06:16.triathlon medal, let's not take anything away from you, a gold and

:06:16. > :06:21.a bronze. It is a great moment for British triathlon. Sq we have got

:06:21. > :06:26.it right for once, which is amazing. It has taken us three tries but now

:06:26. > :06:31.we know what we are doing. I want to say thank you, the B T F have

:06:31. > :06:38.done great leading up into this race. How did the crowd feel,

:06:38. > :06:42.cheering you on? Amazing, all over the back -- the bank there, it is

:06:42. > :06:46.unbelievable. Her you must be so pleased to get a personal best at

:06:46. > :06:52.their home triathlon. I don't know if it was, I felt -- it felt like

:06:52. > :07:02.one. It was a good day today. done, you were phenomenal. Thank

:07:02. > :07:05.

:07:05. > :07:08.What a race, what a day in the park What a race, what a day in the park

:07:08. > :07:16.for Alistair Brownlee. A few tears of joy as he finally realised what

:07:16. > :07:20.he had done. He did what he came to do, to win the Olympic gold medal

:07:20. > :07:25.and to be joined on the podium by his younger brother, Jonathan.

:07:25. > :07:34.Alistair Brownlee, on top of the world. He has won the Olympic

:07:34. > :07:37.triathlon in Hyde Park ahead of Well, he has done it, they have

:07:37. > :07:41.done it. The Bradford grammar school boys have done very well,

:07:41. > :07:47.congratulations. Great Britain's 19s gold medal of these games,

:07:47. > :07:50.equalling the total from Beijing. The first medals in triathlon and

:07:50. > :07:58.Chrissy Wellington was going bonkers! Give your reaction, please,

:07:58. > :08:02.about what this event means. To the Brownlee boys and to your sport.

:08:02. > :08:07.is absolutely phenomenal. Alistair has now won everything there is to

:08:07. > :08:11.win in triathlon, from the junior World Championships all the way

:08:11. > :08:16.through to an Olympic gold medal. It was the most phenomenal

:08:16. > :08:22.performance. He showed you can work incredibly hard on the swim, push

:08:22. > :08:27.the pace on the bike and still go on to what I am sure he is a 29

:08:27. > :08:31.minute 10 km run. To be joined on the podium by his brother, it must

:08:31. > :08:36.make the victory all the sweeter. This means everything to British

:08:36. > :08:40.triathlon. Whilst it is still a minority sport in terms of media

:08:40. > :08:43.coverage and sponsorship, it is definitely a majority sport in

:08:43. > :08:49.terms of participation. The fastest growing sport in this country at

:08:49. > :08:53.the moment and the crowds are a testament to that. They have come

:08:53. > :08:57.out in tens of thousands. Hundreds of thousands, by the look of it.

:08:57. > :09:01.is wonderful. I know that the crowd support would have lifted the

:09:01. > :09:04.Brownlees to achieve that phenomenal success was stopped you

:09:04. > :09:09.talked about aggressive tactics from the start and that is what we

:09:10. > :09:13.saw on the swim. In the first transition, Jonny was in a bit of

:09:13. > :09:17.problems. I guess knowing when to take the penalty is an art in

:09:17. > :09:26.itself. Yet, it was interesting to see when he strategically decided

:09:26. > :09:28.to take the penalty, to create a gap for himself. He still had the

:09:28. > :09:29.gap for himself. He still had the cushion to be able to come home in

:09:29. > :09:33.cushion to be able to come home in bronze medal position. I am sure

:09:33. > :09:40.that is something they would have decided before the race. Will there

:09:40. > :09:45.be a tinge of disappointment from Jonny's perspective? How often does

:09:45. > :09:49.that sort of thing happen in that sport? It doesn't happen regularly

:09:49. > :09:54.but there are penalties that are incurred before various

:09:54. > :09:58.misdemeanours. I don't think you'll be too disappointed, he will be

:09:58. > :10:02.thrilled to get on the podium. It looks like he was dropping back

:10:02. > :10:05.into bronze-medal position even before he took the penalty. I think

:10:06. > :10:10.he will be incredibly happy with the result. He is only 22, there is

:10:11. > :10:14.plenty more to come from him, and from Alistair, I am sure. The first

:10:14. > :10:18.brothers from Great Britain to win medals in the same event since the

:10:18. > :10:22.Searle brothers in the boat 20 years ago. They were not competing

:10:22. > :10:27.against each other, they were very much in it together. What has been

:10:27. > :10:33.the reaction down there? atmosphere here was crazy when

:10:33. > :10:36.Alistair crossed the line. We have just witnessed Britain's first

:10:36. > :10:40.triathlon medals and you must be so proud of the brothers doing it

:10:40. > :10:44.together. Absolutely, and when they do it like that, you wonder if

:10:44. > :10:48.there was any doubt. They were supreme in all three legs and to

:10:48. > :10:52.come away with it two medals was the objective of the team.

:10:52. > :10:56.Congratulations to them. We are used to seeing Alistair winning but

:10:56. > :11:01.I have never seen him get so emotional when he crosses the line

:11:01. > :11:06.for a absolutely, but this is the big one, that everyone wants to win.

:11:06. > :11:10.In some sports it is not typical but in a track it absolutely is --

:11:10. > :11:15.in triathlon it absolutely is. He has been dominant pretty much since

:11:15. > :11:21.the last Olympics so to win like today was the icing on the cake, I

:11:21. > :11:26.am not surprised at the emotion. The team tactics when pretty much

:11:26. > :11:31.according to plan. Absolutely. They try to make the breakaway state but

:11:31. > :11:36.when it didn't happen they try to keep the pace high -- the breakaway

:11:36. > :11:41.stick. They tried to test the pace of some runners. I think that

:11:41. > :11:48.worked well. Not many of them run to their full potential and I think

:11:48. > :11:51.that is because their legs were tired. Jonny handled the penalty

:11:51. > :11:55.situation well, knowing when to take it and still getting a bronze.

:11:55. > :12:03.It was perfect timing, I would have suggested lap two or three would
