:00:49. > :00:54.Good evening from cycling to sailing, from boxing to basketball,

:00:54. > :00:58.from showjumping to shooting. These Olympic games have kept us

:00:58. > :01:04.engrossed but there is something exhilarating about watching human

:01:04. > :01:08.beings rung as quickly as they can. Tonight the world's fastest women

:01:08. > :01:18.go head-to-head in the 200 metres final. Once again it is Jamaica

:01:18. > :01:50.

:01:50. > :01:56.Here comes Allyson Felix. Veronica Campbell-Brown has won a great race.

:01:56. > :02:02.Felix easing away, here she come, speed and endurance. Jeter is

:02:02. > :02:06.powering away. Campbell-Brown wins it. It is not just the women's 200

:02:06. > :02:13.metres we will see tonight there is the men ues 200 metres semifinals.

:02:13. > :02:17.You know what that means. -- men's. Usain Bolt has defended the 100

:02:17. > :02:23.metres gold he won in Beijing, he takes the latest step towards

:02:23. > :02:28.retaining his 200 metres crown, in tonight's semifinals. The second

:02:29. > :02:34.fastest man in history over 200 metres behind Bolt is Yohan Blake,

:02:34. > :02:41.he will hope to set up another sprint dual with his team-mate in

:02:41. > :02:48.tomorrow night's final. Proctor established herself as a long

:02:48. > :02:53.jumper by setting the highest in qualifying. Lisa Dobriskey was

:02:53. > :02:59.fourth in Beijing, she, Hannah England and Laura Weightman run in

:02:59. > :03:06.the semifinals. The only medal missing from Andy Turner's trophy

:03:06. > :03:09.cabinet is an Olympic one. He has a semifinal in the 110 metres hurdles

:03:09. > :03:14.hopefully before completing his collection in the final. Here is

:03:14. > :03:24.the timetable for tonight's track and field. We will see Shara

:03:24. > :03:29.

:03:29. > :03:37.We will show you later Team GB's bid to make the final in women's

:03:37. > :03:41.hockey. On BBC Three you can see women's beach volleyball, the

:03:41. > :03:51.bronze medal match between China and Brazil. Before that, the

:03:51. > :03:56.Nicola Adams has won at least silver after she reached the final

:03:56. > :04:03.of the flyweight division thanks to a superb win over the Indian

:04:03. > :04:07.champion. And the sailing duo of Saskia Clark and nan mills are

:04:07. > :04:11.guaranteed at least silver in the 470 class, barring any

:04:11. > :04:20.disqualification, they will battle it out for gold with New Zealand on

:04:20. > :04:26.Friday. Great Britain's medal rush was stopped in its tracks as Nick

:04:26. > :04:30.Skelton missed out on an Olympic showjumping medal. We have a

:04:30. > :04:37.terrific night to look forward to, and who better to look forward to

:04:37. > :04:41.it with with double gold winner Dame Kelly Holmes. Kelly, it is

:04:41. > :04:49.lovely to have you. Let us start with your feelings of that

:04:49. > :04:54.incredible weekend, that we had of aeth le stadium. It was outstanding,

:04:54. > :04:59.to have three gold medals, within and hour and know it set that track

:04:59. > :05:03.alight. But it was a brilliant starting point for athletics. Think

:05:03. > :05:07.they have struggled in previous Olympic games to make their mark

:05:07. > :05:12.after incredible medal hauls the rest of the sports get. That

:05:12. > :05:16.cemented our status n the world of athletics. After that euphoria and

:05:16. > :05:20.those highs, there was going to be a bit of a difficult act to follow.

:05:20. > :05:29.We have not had such success since. But that probably doesn't surprise

:05:29. > :05:33.you. Yeah, I think we have been too, er, we have won so many medals our

:05:33. > :05:37.expectations are so high, we are looking at everything and saying

:05:37. > :05:42.are we doing as well as we should. Unfortunately injuries hit athletes

:05:42. > :05:47.in particular and that is what we have seen, but you know, can't

:05:47. > :05:50.takeaway from Christine Ohuruogu's silver, and a couple of bronzes, it

:05:50. > :05:55.is a great performance for athletics, and probably at this

:05:55. > :06:01.time more medals than we have ever got. Spoilt we are. We are. But I

:06:01. > :06:06.think tonight will be a great night again, and just, everything that

:06:06. > :06:11.has been happening, it is electric, whether that is Great Britain or

:06:11. > :06:16.other countries. It is an amazing atmosphere. One of your two gold

:06:16. > :06:25.medals was in the 1500 metres, how do you think our girl also go

:06:25. > :06:31.are three girls in the 1500 metre, two have been part of my mentoring

:06:31. > :06:35.programme. Laura weight mand and -- Weightman and Kelly England. I

:06:35. > :06:44.think the two will be different, Laura Weightman I think has got the

:06:45. > :06:49.harder, semi, she goes second. She has the runner who came second to

:06:49. > :06:57.me in Athens. I am not too happy to sheer back, she comes back from a

:06:57. > :07:02.drugs ban. You question mark it. But she has another two, but they

:07:02. > :07:06.are probably the toughest, at the moment. So Laura, for her, she

:07:06. > :07:11.looked really good in the heats, but it is whether she has been able

:07:11. > :07:16.to recover well, enough, to get up to that next performance again in

:07:16. > :07:20.the semis. It is her first major Championship. If Hannah and release

:07:20. > :07:23.have, they have had difficult year, Hannah had a spike pierced through

:07:23. > :07:27.her Achilles tendon. That set her back, that was about eight weeks'

:07:27. > :07:34.ago, it set her back emotionally and physically but in the last two

:07:34. > :07:39.weeks build up she has come back to her fore. To... She is good isn't

:07:39. > :07:43.she. She is stronger than she thinks, I hope she can use the

:07:43. > :07:46.competitive brain to get through to the final. Lisa Dobriskey, she

:07:46. > :07:50.looks comfortable in the heat bus we have to remember that heat was

:07:50. > :07:57.run in about 4.13 so lower than the others. So it will be interesting.

:07:57. > :08:01.I am excited about this, because we could have three finalists, but, my

:08:01. > :08:04.guess is we might have two. Fingers crossed. I must ask you about Mo

:08:04. > :08:08.Farah. Because he is trying to do what you did, win two gold medals

:08:09. > :08:12.at the same game, which would be something. You know all about the

:08:12. > :08:18.way you have to peak twice there is a gap between both event, what will

:08:18. > :08:22.he be doing between them? We saw him this morning, he looked a bit

:08:22. > :08:27.tired. You do. You come into your second heat tired, because

:08:27. > :08:33.emotionally the first one, the 10,000 you saw him the other night,

:08:33. > :08:38.he was emotionally, kind of so into that race, and theure for ya of

:08:38. > :08:43.winning, and his family coming on - - euphoria, that would have taken

:08:43. > :08:47.so much out of him. He has run a 10,000 metres so the recovery

:08:47. > :08:50.period will take that much more to get him back to where he would like

:08:50. > :08:52.to be. Coming out on your first race, your heats after you have

:08:53. > :08:56.done something like that is the hardest, because in your brain you

:08:56. > :09:01.are trying to stop yourself from doing too much, and trying to keep

:09:01. > :09:05.as much in the tank for the final, yet you retired from the previous

:09:05. > :09:09.round. We shouldn't be too concerned. No, because he is a

:09:09. > :09:13.Championship runner and he will go out there with a fight. I mean,

:09:13. > :09:17.definitely think he will get a medal. I won't be surprised if he

:09:17. > :09:21.won gold. He will be brilliant. Lovely to see you. It is time we

:09:21. > :09:28.handed over for the athletics. It is a beautiful day here in London.

:09:28. > :09:32.The evening is going to be a nice one. Set fair for great athle Tibbs,

:09:32. > :09:39.time to join John and his friends. It's a hot night for the latest

:09:39. > :09:45.instalment of the Bolt show. It was a sullry morning this morning when

:09:45. > :09:49.British athletes had mixed fortunes. Gar rained Kelly were discussing Mo

:09:49. > :09:57.Farah. Safely through but was he heavy legged? We will find out at

:09:57. > :10:04.the weekend. Not since 2000 has Britain had a fine flist the

:10:04. > :10:08.women's hammer. Sophie Hitchon ended that drought. Steve Louis set

:10:08. > :10:15.a new British pole vault record in Poland. Today he didn't need to

:10:15. > :10:19.scale the heights to reach the final. And after all the pre-games

:10:19. > :10:25.controversy over Lynsey Sharp's selection ahead of so many more

:10:25. > :10:31.experienced athletes, she did her talking on the track. But on the

:10:31. > :10:38.down side, Daniel Awde is out of the decathlon but at 24 he will

:10:38. > :10:45.surely have one more opportunity at least. So, good evening to Michael

:10:45. > :10:49.and Denise. We will have a chance to talk in a few moments time, but

:10:49. > :10:55.Robbie Grabarz's medal took place a few moments ago, we will show you

:10:55. > :10:59.that in a few moments, but Mo Farah, to continue what Kelly was saying,

:10:59. > :11:04.heavy legged, tired, emotionally drained? A mixture of all three.

:11:04. > :11:10.Maybe a combination of all three. We can forgive him that, he ran a

:11:10. > :11:14.fantastic 10,000 metre race. His job today was just to qualify. By

:11:14. > :11:17.his own admission he felt heavy legged, but hopefully he will go

:11:17. > :11:27.back and rest, get his treatment, and get his mind ready for the next

:11:27. > :11:31.round. I think he has got a day or so to get ready. I think qualify

:11:31. > :11:34.ing, the energy is not there, some times the qualifying, he knew he

:11:35. > :11:39.could qualify, so I wouldn't take much from the fact he didn't

:11:39. > :11:44.qualify in first and that he says he feels a little tired. I think he

:11:44. > :11:48.will be ready for the final. have got shots of Robbie Grabarz

:11:48. > :11:53.bronze medal a few moments ago. Three men, share it, not exactly

:11:53. > :11:58.sharing it but all getting a bronze medal. And a couple of people were

:11:58. > :12:03.saying why don't the three people then have a jump-off, answer?

:12:03. > :12:07.don't know what the rules are, but I would have liked to see that but

:12:07. > :12:12.it impact what is happens next with the silver medal or whatever, but

:12:12. > :12:15.you know, in is a fair enough result, three guys, three different

:12:15. > :12:20.countries very happy. It is not an impossible situation, you could

:12:20. > :12:24.have six people sharing the bronze, that would look ridiculous. I think

:12:24. > :12:28.three looks ridiculous, you should have three, they should have a

:12:28. > :12:33.jump-off or some mechanism in place to prevent this, so one guy can say

:12:33. > :12:37.I am the bronze medallist in saying I am the bronze medallist and

:12:37. > :12:41.someone saying he is the the bronze medallist. It must be summer

:12:41. > :12:46.because in the studio there are flying beasties round, vaguely

:12:46. > :12:50.related to the moss key toy family what a great night to watch

:12:50. > :12:55.athletics, and boy, wvings have we got some of the world's best on

:12:55. > :12:59.show. To mark your card it is Blake at eight minutes past eight and

:12:59. > :13:09.Bolt about seven or eight minutes that. So don't miss that.

:13:09. > :13:12.

:13:12. > :13:18.final is tonight at quarter past nine. This is Wayne Davis. Next to

:13:18. > :13:24.him t very good Frenchman Garfield Darien. Came through as the fastest

:13:24. > :13:34.loser, didn't look so sharp in his qualifying race. And thereon the

:13:34. > :13:39.roar for this young man, Lawrence Clarke. -- listen to the roar.

:13:39. > :13:49.Still just 22-year-old. Getting better all the time. The World

:13:49. > :13:54.Champion from last year, in a race in which was won initially by the

:13:54. > :14:00.man who was disqualified. Jason Richardson came through to win.

:14:00. > :14:10.Another man from Cuba, in fact he has beaten rob less, Ortega, just

:14:10. > :14:20.

:14:20. > :14:25.21. -- a former European under 23 champion. Deghelt from Belgium.

:14:25. > :14:32.13.52. One or two got through by dint of being one or two easier

:14:32. > :14:38.heats. Gregory Sedoc of Netherlands. Andy Turner will be in the second

:14:38. > :14:43.semifinal. There is the full line up for you. Claurns Clark right in

:14:43. > :14:47.the middle. Only the first two will go through, and two fast toast the

:14:47. > :14:57.final so Lawrence Clarke will have to run the race of his life here.

:14:57. > :14:57.

:14:57. > :15:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:15:43. > :15:47.given himself a chance. -- in the third place. A ring for which its

:15:47. > :15:52.and was expected. Paul Ortega should have become a second, but

:15:52. > :15:58.Lawrence Clarke was very close to him. There are two fastest loser

:15:58. > :16:04.spots available. It was a really good race. What we expected to see,

:16:04. > :16:10.Jason Richardson taking the lead early and driving through. He has

:16:10. > :16:16.got a really wide stance over the barriers. Very unusual. But I think

:16:16. > :16:21.he could easily run under 13 seconds. The final will be very,

:16:21. > :16:27.very exciting. Lawrence Clarke, what a great race. He stuck with

:16:27. > :16:32.these guys, competed with them, kept his head under pressure. There

:16:32. > :16:38.was lots of clashing, lots of noise. He kept his focus and he was

:16:38. > :16:48.rewarded with a very, very quick time. Hard into that first hurdle,

:16:48. > :16:52.it really aggressive. His eyes are focused. Gets it in a straight line,

:16:52. > :16:59.hurdles clattering left, right and centre but Lawrence Clarke sticks

:16:59. > :17:08.to his task. Working hard, keeping cool. Knowing that this could be

:17:08. > :17:14.his race into the Olympic final. He works hard off the final one and

:17:14. > :17:20.digging towards the line. He ends up with a brand new personal best,

:17:20. > :17:26.13.31. Great performance by Lawrence Clarke. The world champion

:17:26. > :17:30.looking good, but a great run from Lawrence Clarke. Personal best in

:17:30. > :17:39.third place. Times will be significant. That was in to a

:17:39. > :17:49.slight headwind. Two more races to come. I think he has given himself

:17:49. > :17:50.

:17:50. > :17:54.We heard from Colin on that first heat -- semi-final. We have the

:17:54. > :17:59.second one coming up. What a wonderful evening, so much

:17:59. > :18:04.happening at the Olympic Park. Hockey, handball. Our second semi-

:18:04. > :18:10.final features Andy Turner. Fees are Colin's thoughts on him and the

:18:10. > :18:14.event in general. -- these are. Andy Turner facing a tough task.

:18:14. > :18:18.Despite Yi Zhang crashing out of qualifying, they are still

:18:18. > :18:24.Butterfield to compete with. In order to do well, he needs to make

:18:24. > :18:31.sure he nails the key parts of the race. The start is important. You

:18:31. > :18:35.can't afford to make any mistakes during the acceleration phase. The

:18:35. > :18:40.fastest point of the race is hurdles four and five. This is

:18:40. > :18:44.where the athletes hit top speed. The best will take less than a

:18:44. > :18:49.second to jump and run between these hurdles. At the start and end

:18:49. > :18:53.of the race, they take much longer. If an athlete is in front at this

:18:53. > :18:58.point, they have done most of the hard work. From hurdle five, it is

:18:58. > :19:05.all about maintaining your speed. The athlete who slows down the

:19:05. > :19:08.least will win the race. Unless they make a mistake. That is

:19:08. > :19:12.something and the almost always relies on. He is very consistent

:19:12. > :19:16.and redeem -- rarely makes a mistake. That means he put himself

:19:16. > :19:23.in a good position to take advantage of any errors his

:19:24. > :19:27.competitors make. He is also quick between hurdles two --, too. Robles

:19:27. > :19:31.and Merritt have a physical advantage over Andy. They are

:19:31. > :19:34.taller and that means their centre of gravity is higher, making it

:19:34. > :19:39.quicker and easier for them to clear hurdles. That allows them to

:19:39. > :19:44.get away with more mistakes. If Andy is to do well tonight, he

:19:44. > :19:54.needs to concentrate on remaining consistent. If he does that, he

:19:54. > :19:57.

:19:57. > :20:05.could put himself in contention for six. Next to the very fast American,

:20:05. > :20:08.Ares Merritt of the USA. A new Ares Merritt of the USA. A new

:20:08. > :20:13.lifetime best for Lawrence Clarke. 13.31, fabulous time. He is talking

:20:13. > :20:18.to Phil. A personal best for Lawrence Clarke. Biggest race of

:20:18. > :20:25.your life and you have delivered when it mattered. I was next to

:20:25. > :20:30.Jason Richardson. I thought, stick to him. To look at what he just ran.

:20:30. > :20:35.I tipped on the line and he was right next to me. -- dip. I tried

:20:35. > :20:39.to produce the best race of my life and I have. I'm praying I am the

:20:39. > :20:45.fastest loser. You have given yourself a chance. My a more year

:20:45. > :20:48.for this Olympics was to make the semi-final. -- Mike a more or year.

:20:48. > :20:54.This was my final, really. Malcolm always said anything else would be

:20:54. > :20:58.a bonus. Anything can happen in the hurdles. I really want another

:20:58. > :21:08.personal best. I hope that will get me through. Let's hope so, well

:21:08. > :21:12.

:21:12. > :21:22.Andy Turner. Richard Phillips of Jamaica. 13.43 this year. A good

:21:22. > :21:26.400m hurdler as well. An Olympic finalist four years ago in Beijing.

:21:26. > :21:31.Only when through to the semi-final stage as a fastest loser, though. -

:21:31. > :21:41.- went through. Paolo Villar of Columbia, South American record

:21:41. > :21:54.

:21:54. > :22:02.national flag at that Opening Ceremony, Ryan Brathwaite. World

:22:02. > :22:07.champion in 2009. Selim Nurudeen of Nigeria, the African Games champion

:22:07. > :22:14.a few years ago. 13.51 is a lifetime best which she set this

:22:14. > :22:20.year. A tremendous reception for Andy Turner. European champion,,

:22:20. > :22:25.worth Games champion, both won in 2010. -- Commonwealth Games

:22:25. > :22:35.champion. The fastest qualifier for the semi-finals, Bury's Merritt of

:22:35. > :22:36.

:22:36. > :22:43.the USA. -- Bury's Merritt. His heat looked very, very easy.

:22:43. > :22:50.Konstantin Shabanov, a superb Russian. 13.63 to make it to the

:22:50. > :23:00.semi-finals, but he could be a danger. Wenjun Xie of China. 22

:23:00. > :23:09.

:23:09. > :23:14.years old. 13.42. This is the full Olympic 110 metres hurdles. Andy

:23:14. > :23:20.Turner has to get away to a good start. He has got the fastest man

:23:20. > :23:26.in the field right next to him. If he sticks to Merritt like glue,

:23:26. > :23:36.anything could happen. Merrett has been under 13 seconds this year if

:23:36. > :23:57.

:23:57. > :24:04.a couple of times. -- Merritt. Just place. 12.94! That is only 100th of

:24:04. > :24:11.a second outside of his best time ever. Hurdles lying all over the

:24:11. > :24:16.place. Andy Turner, after the first hurdle, began to lose ground on

:24:16. > :24:21.Merritt. But that was a terrific race by the American. Colin? A race

:24:21. > :24:26.we have got used to with Merritt. He clobbered the second hurdle and

:24:26. > :24:30.he will be so frustrated with that. He has had a lot of problems with

:24:31. > :24:36.hitting hurdles two and three. If you can get those hurdles right, he

:24:36. > :24:42.can break the world record. With that demonstration, I would say he

:24:42. > :24:46.is most probably right. Let's look at Andy Turner. He won that

:24:46. > :24:49.wonderful medal at the World Championships last year. The

:24:49. > :24:54.European champion, the Commonwealth Games champion. He has struggled

:24:54. > :25:04.with his form this year. He has had injuries that have hampered his

:25:04. > :25:15.

:25:15. > :25:18.will be very disappointed with this. He came through with a time of

:25:18. > :25:24.13.42. I don't think that will be enough to take him through to the

:25:24. > :25:29.final. Let's have a look at everybody else. Ryan Brathwaite, a

:25:29. > :25:33.former world champion, returning to some kind of form. He tried to stay

:25:33. > :25:39.with Merritt, but Merritt is so full of running these days. He

:25:39. > :25:49.looks good and confident. He looked excited at a fact that he could

:25:49. > :26:08.

:26:08. > :26:12.possibly be the Olympic champion in still in a fastest loser position

:26:12. > :26:15.at the moment. Andy Turner got at the moment. Andy Turner got

:26:15. > :26:18.through to the semi-finals, but he is eliminated. Let's see what he

:26:18. > :26:23.thinks about that. Commiserations, I know how

:26:23. > :26:30.desperately wanted to make a final. Described the race. I just got a

:26:30. > :26:35.rubbish start. That is what let me down. Once I got going, I was OK,

:26:35. > :26:42.but the start was shocking. I don't know what happened. I am gutted. I

:26:42. > :26:46.feel like I've let myself and my coach down. Gutted. How were you at

:26:46. > :26:50.the start? Yesterday you said you was so nervous, did you keep that

:26:50. > :26:57.in check? I didn't feel as nervous today, I felt more relaxed. I was

:26:57. > :27:01.excited to race. I really believed I could make the final. Had I not

:27:01. > :27:08.made the final barrier and run a good race, I would have had a

:27:08. > :27:12.chance... I understand. Is this partly to do with the consistency

:27:12. > :27:22.of the season? It takes its toll when it comes to this kind of

:27:22. > :27:24.

:27:24. > :27:32.occasion. Yeah, I've had a rubbish season. That is the kind of time I

:27:32. > :27:40.had run jogging last year and a year before. I made a few decisions

:27:40. > :27:46.to train elsewhere. I don't think the coaching suited my style. I had

:27:46. > :27:54.been running OK for a while, but it was time to do something different.

:27:54. > :28:04.It has backfired. -- I feel like I have let people down. We will let

:28:04. > :28:05.

:28:05. > :28:10.Disappointment for Andy Turner. A full stadium on a beautiful evening.

:28:10. > :28:19.Less busy than it was earlier today, it has been great fun wandering

:28:19. > :28:25.around earlier on. I bumped into Adi be laid near the hockey. It is

:28:25. > :28:27.a beautiful place to be this evening. The decathlete have been

:28:27. > :28:32.very busy in the stadium today. very busy in the stadium today.

:28:32. > :28:42.They have already completed three events. These were the situations

:28:42. > :28:58.

:28:58. > :29:07.We had already seen some big throws from the likes of Karpov of only

:29:07. > :29:11.six -- over 60m. He he the overall leader, round about 150 points in

:29:11. > :29:17.the lead, displayed a very rudimentary technique, but a very

:29:17. > :29:27.powerful throw. Further than that but he made when he broke the world

:29:27. > :29:33.record. Watched by a huge audience in the Olympic Stadium. 14.66. Not

:29:33. > :29:43.the best score, but enough to keep his lead way above 100 points.

:29:43. > :29:54.

:29:54. > :30:04.Moving into the high jump, Ashton withdraw because of injury. Onto

:30:04. > :30:13.

:30:13. > :30:19.Robles in seven. Lynsha of Belarus in eight and Geoff Porter, the

:30:19. > :30:25.husband of Tiffany Porter in lane nine. Well, time to keep in your

:30:25. > :30:31.mind is 13.31, that is what Lawrence Clarke ran as a fastest

:30:31. > :30:37.loser but five men in this field have run quicker than that this

:30:37. > :30:41.year. Dayron Robles, he has had all sorts of injury problems. I was

:30:41. > :30:44.listening toon interview he did when he arrived here saying he

:30:44. > :30:48.thought 12.95 would win it. I think she going to have to change his

:30:48. > :30:53.mind on that. Is he going to be good enough to get to the final

:30:53. > :30:56.here? Watch out for the very good young Russian in lane four,

:30:56. > :31:03.Shubenkov, the new European champion. New Russian record this

:31:03. > :31:13.year, 13.09. Parchment, the Jamaican in five has going very

:31:13. > :31:22.

:31:22. > :31:28.hitting hurdles all the way. Robles into his stride. Parchment in the

:31:28. > :31:32.middle. Robles and Parchment coming away, Robles wins it. Then

:31:32. > :31:39.Parchment. Now... There were some quick, just judging the distance,

:31:39. > :31:44.it is going to be very interesting to see exactly the times that come

:31:44. > :31:54.up. The winning time not as impressive, we didn't expect it to

:31:54. > :31:57.

:31:57. > :32:03.be. Let us watch this. Keeps his stride. Shubenkov not going as well

:32:03. > :32:08.as I thought he would. Then in the middle, Parchment comes driving

:32:08. > :32:12.through. And looking up now, 13.28 for third, Fourie runs brilliantly

:32:12. > :32:16.to come back but Abate is going to be too slow so Lawrence Clarke

:32:17. > :32:20.makes it through. That is good news. I was jumping up and down, waiting

:32:20. > :32:24.for it to come on the screen and confirm to us all that Lawrence

:32:24. > :32:29.Clarke has got through to the final what a wonderful, wonderful moment

:32:29. > :32:36.for that young man, he will be very happy. But day Yvonne Robles, we

:32:36. > :32:42.have seen him move much better than this in the past. -- Dayron Robles.

:32:42. > :32:46.He is a beautiful, natural hurdler, but he seems a bit heavy. He

:32:46. > :32:51.doesn't seem as light as hiz feet as in the past. When he lands there

:32:51. > :32:56.is a sinking action that goes on, you see he drops a bit. That is a

:32:56. > :33:01.sign he is really not quite on top of his game, or, or, he is not

:33:01. > :33:05.running flat out. Those are two reasons why he will slightly sink.

:33:05. > :33:08.Come the final, I guess we will get the answer to that, because he will

:33:08. > :33:16.have to move flat out if he is going to take a medal. Of course he

:33:16. > :33:23.wants that to be gold. Yes. Flat out? I don't know, I think he was

:33:23. > :33:28.running pretty hard there Colin. You know better than I do. Patchlet

:33:28. > :33:32.ran well, coming through for second place. Fourie does make it through

:33:32. > :33:37.but so does Lawrence Clarke. Let us clear all of that up. We are

:33:37. > :33:41.heading for a cracking final tonight. At quarter past nine.

:33:41. > :33:45.Merit heads them up. He looks a hot favourite for the gold medal. Roebl,

:33:45. > :33:52.Richardson the World Champion, they will be joined by Lawrence Clarke.

:33:52. > :34:02.-- Robles. That is 9.15 final. Before that at quarter past eight

:34:02. > :34:07.we have Blake and Bolt in the men's 200 metres semifinals. We have

:34:07. > :34:10.Robbie Grabarz and Denise Lewis. We Robbie Grabarz and Denise Lewis. We

:34:10. > :34:14.will talk about you in a moment. A quick word on Lawrence Clarke?

:34:14. > :34:18.Excellent. Someone like Lawrence rises to occasions like this, he is

:34:18. > :34:24.no wall flower by any have stretch of the imagination, you felt if he

:34:24. > :34:28.was in great shape, he would use this to his advantage and he did

:34:28. > :34:33.that, excellent result. Great for his coach, he never gets the

:34:33. > :34:37.respect he deserve, but he has coached some fantastic athletes.

:34:37. > :34:41.you are going to produce a personal best do it on the biggest stage of

:34:41. > :34:48.all. How does it feel Robbie? In a way nice you get the medal last

:34:48. > :34:55.night but you get the medal today, so it prolongs the ecstasy? It has

:34:55. > :34:59.been a long wait. I am not letting go of it. Stand only the podium,

:34:59. > :35:04.how did it feel. I was really proud, I have worked hard this year, and I

:35:04. > :35:07.deserve to be on the podium, I feel proud to have made it. You say you

:35:07. > :35:11.worked hard, every interview you have given, before the games and

:35:11. > :35:14.subsequently, you know you have spoken about how you made this big

:35:14. > :35:18.decision a year or soing a, rather than messing round and going to the

:35:19. > :35:24.pub a bit and being a party animal, and your coach said to you if you

:35:24. > :35:28.are going to mess me round I am not interested. How easy is it to flick

:35:28. > :35:32.and switch and being from being a recreational athlete to one who is

:35:32. > :35:36.full on, determined to go for a medal? It was a difficult decision

:35:36. > :35:40.but once that was made, I think I found it easy to stick to that,

:35:40. > :35:44.because I decided. It was, you know, I took myself away for a couple of

:35:44. > :35:49.days and thought that, if I make this decision, you are committing

:35:49. > :35:54.to this, it is not a light-hearted, let us give it a go for a couple of

:35:54. > :35:57.weeks. It is a whole winter and the summer you still have to stay

:35:57. > :36:02.focused and perform at the Olympic Games in London. Yeah, it was a

:36:02. > :36:07.good decision. Obviously it was! The did you feel you might waiver?

:36:07. > :36:12.Round Christmas time, there is parties everywhere, were you still

:36:12. > :36:16.resill yent if your resolve? Yes, every training session, it makes a

:36:16. > :36:19.difference, you add 1% to every session, 2% to every session. It is

:36:19. > :36:24.not just physically, it is all in the head. Especially when you come

:36:24. > :36:29.to compete in a world stage. I think it is easy to stick to it

:36:29. > :36:32.once that is made. Michael? What was the difference in terms of your

:36:32. > :36:36.life before, before this commitment, and you life now? Just, in terms of

:36:36. > :36:40.training, what was its that you weren't doing then that you were

:36:40. > :36:46.doing later? As oppose to the mentality, physically what was it

:36:46. > :36:51.in terms of that commitment? Not a great deal. Seriously wasn't a

:36:51. > :36:55.great deal. So... I am a talented high jumper, it was just, when you

:36:55. > :36:59.focus in on every weight session you get all that return to you, and

:36:59. > :37:02.it is physically you get so much more, even though the training

:37:02. > :37:10.wasn't physically massively different, it is a mind set. You

:37:10. > :37:13.try that bit harder, and, you know, you reap the benefits. There are so

:37:13. > :37:18.many talented athletes who don't reach their potential. I am sure

:37:18. > :37:21.they get to 40 and think "If only, I should have given more to it at

:37:21. > :37:27.the time when I had the opportunity." Was there anelletment

:37:27. > :37:31.about that that people were saying don't fritter your talent? I read

:37:31. > :37:35.something and it said don't look back and think if only. It is no

:37:35. > :37:44.regrets. I didn't want to look back and think I wasted an opportunity

:37:44. > :37:48.to compete let alone win a medal. That is it. It is a sign you commit

:37:48. > :37:52.your mind and your talent, you combine that you get the best out

:37:52. > :37:56.of yourself, you know, as you said, you see so many kids, junior,

:37:56. > :38:01.senior, that just don't have that mental capacity to make that change,

:38:01. > :38:04.so very inspirational. Well done. Many congratulations and we are not

:38:04. > :38:09.seeking to rain on your parade. We were discussing why isn't there a

:38:09. > :38:13.jump-off for third place, so one of you gets the bronze medal? Would

:38:13. > :38:18.you have liked that It would have been exciting to be honest, it

:38:18. > :38:21.would have really earned that bronze medal then. But, I just

:38:21. > :38:26.think it is not possible logistically. I would have enjoyed

:38:26. > :38:31.it. Just take it! Many congratulations. Thank you. Robbie

:38:31. > :38:41.Grabarz, our bronze medallist in the high jump. We are hoping to get

:38:41. > :38:42.

:38:42. > :38:48.certainly one, maybe more at -- athletes into the final of the 1500

:38:48. > :38:53.metres women's semifinal. approached each Championship

:38:53. > :38:57.differently, so I have a lot of lessons learned from each one, I

:38:57. > :39:00.feel have a good set of tools in hand to be able to prepare me for

:39:00. > :39:06.this, and I can use and draw on the experiences I have, to hopefully

:39:06. > :39:10.make sure this is the best Championship yet. Lisa Dobriskey on

:39:10. > :39:14.the outside. The 1500 is very interesting, because it is not

:39:14. > :39:20.necessarily the athlete with the quickest time that wins. Some

:39:20. > :39:24.people are good at one off performances, so times on paper are

:39:24. > :39:29.very different to tactically run races and even fast races, because

:39:29. > :39:32.there is nobody doing the work for you so it is down to you to make it

:39:32. > :39:38.your moment, and your chance, and people often get it wrong, and that

:39:38. > :39:41.is where medals are won. Well down you got in the top three. A big

:39:41. > :39:45.part of me reminds me I have to enjoy this moment and embrace it.

:39:45. > :39:48.At the end of the day this is everything. So it needs to be

:39:48. > :39:56.enjoyable and it needs to be something I embrace and look back

:39:56. > :40:00.on with fond memories. The orbit, Denise doesn't like it. I do. She

:40:00. > :40:06.is shaking her head. But, you know, so many people were buying tickets

:40:06. > :40:12.to go up that. There is the shot of people enjoying a beautiful

:40:12. > :40:17.summer's evening. Next time you come into London, the cable car, it

:40:17. > :40:22.is spectacular, so another thing to do, if you come to this part of the

:40:22. > :40:26.world. Here is our aerial shot again of the last vestiges of

:40:26. > :40:30.sunshine on the far side, painting a magnificent picture. Let us talk

:40:30. > :40:35.about our three girls. Lob seems to have been round for a long time,

:40:35. > :40:38.and I keep expecting her to suddenly come up with the goods. --

:40:38. > :40:45.Lisa Dobriskey, gold, silver on a stage like this, it hasn't quite

:40:45. > :40:50.happened. Why do you think that is? It is injury, she is a talented

:40:50. > :40:56.young girl, but the thing is, what can you do when you pick up an

:40:56. > :40:59.injury? It sets you back, you have to restart again, you have to

:40:59. > :41:03.regain your confidence, and I think she is going through that battle.

:41:03. > :41:09.It is great to see her here, because it was touch-and-go at one

:41:09. > :41:13.stage, it is really precious to see her here. Injury isst scourge of

:41:13. > :41:16.all sportsmen, but for athletes the margins are so tight so if you are

:41:16. > :41:20.the slightest anything that will is the difference between being good

:41:20. > :41:25.and nowhere. That is right. You can't play injured here. There is

:41:25. > :41:32.only a certain amount that you can control, certainly the training and

:41:32. > :41:35.in the off season, the off season training will help to strengthen an

:41:35. > :41:40.athlete but there is only so much you can do when you get involved in

:41:40. > :41:43.sport, that is a part of it, and sometimes it happens at the worst

:41:43. > :41:47.time. There are those who have chronic injuries, the hands is the

:41:47. > :41:50.worst, because they never get to a point where they can develop

:41:50. > :41:56.consistency circumstances not with competing or training and that will

:41:56. > :41:59.hold back an athlete like Lisa. Colonel, good evening. Good evening.

:41:59. > :42:03.What about Hannah England.. She is having a traumatic time. Coming

:42:03. > :42:08.from the beginning of the season she was starting off in good shape,

:42:08. > :42:12.feeling happy and picking a silly little injury, and all athletes

:42:12. > :42:16.would say that is possibly the most frustrating thing, when you pick up

:42:17. > :42:19.an injury, that has come out of the blue, that you don't expect. If you

:42:19. > :42:27.were doing extra strides or something unusual, but to be in a

:42:27. > :42:32.race and get spiked is an awful thing, to create this havoc.. It is

:42:32. > :42:35.great she is here. I am glade she made it. Four years ago I was in

:42:35. > :42:41.Beijing watching with her, and Perri Shakes-Drayton and these

:42:41. > :42:45.girls have got bags of talent, and this young lady is ambitious, she

:42:46. > :42:50.has a lot of determination and she will get her time. The key thing we

:42:51. > :42:54.were talking about, is about this is my moment. And do you rise to

:42:54. > :43:00.the occasioner,er or are you cowed by it? You never know how the

:43:00. > :43:03.individual is going to respond, until you see them do it.

:43:03. > :43:07.hasn't competed in some time, since that injury, that makes it

:43:07. > :43:11.difficult to come out on this stage and try to produce her best, which

:43:12. > :43:18.she will have to do or get close to it to get into the final. That make

:43:18. > :43:24.it more difficult. As the same time, she will be buoyed by this crowd

:43:24. > :43:31.and she will be up lifted by them, hopefully that will be enough to

:43:31. > :43:36.offset the disan vadge tadge of not being able to compete. -- disadd

:43:36. > :43:42.van damage. -- disadvantage. Last night, let us hope we can get one

:43:42. > :43:46.of our semifinalists through evening. Steve Cram is going to

:43:46. > :43:53.evening. Steve Cram is going to describe this. Thank you.. We have

:43:53. > :44:03.two excellent athletes representing Great Britain here. New European

:44:03. > :44:04.

:44:04. > :44:09.champion from Turkey. She has run an incredible 3. 56 .6 this year.

:44:09. > :44:18.Van Dalen, not so well-known New Zealander. Stellingwerff, and there

:44:18. > :44:23.is Lisa Dobriskey. She will get a cracking welcome here. Has a happy

:44:23. > :44:32.neck of -- knack of getting it right on the day. To good Americans,

:44:32. > :44:38.Shannon has a world bronze medal. They have gone straight past her

:44:38. > :44:43.there. Uceny was probably the world number one leading into that and

:44:43. > :44:53.her team-mate who won that title. So three very good Americans. And a

:44:53. > :45:14.

:45:14. > :45:20.there as well, having the season of her life. The first five will go

:45:20. > :45:25.through. And then 30 fastest losers from these two semi-finals. -- of

:45:26. > :45:30.the two fastest losers. These are very, very nervous moments for any

:45:30. > :45:37.athlete. Despite all of the championships Lisa Dobriskey has

:45:37. > :45:42.run, she will be nervous, but she looks nice and calm. Hannah, trials

:45:42. > :45:52.and tribulations leading into this, but she looked better in her

:45:52. > :45:57.

:45:57. > :46:00.intriguing races with two semi- finals. Does the first one go hard?

:46:01. > :46:07.I'm not sure there's a front-runner in the semi-. Hannah England likes

:46:07. > :46:15.to come from behind. Lisa Dobriskey does. Uceny does. Kostetskaya, not

:46:15. > :46:18.so sure. Plenty of people will think they can kick at the end.

:46:18. > :46:22.When there are five places to qualify, you don't blame them for

:46:22. > :46:30.thinking that. Some of them will be lulled into a false sense of

:46:30. > :46:33.security. If this had been a normal season, you would say that Hannah

:46:33. > :46:38.England and Lisa Dobriskey would be great bet to get to the final, but

:46:38. > :46:43.they've both had troubled times. Hannah England got spiked in a race

:46:43. > :46:48.and struggled for weeks after way. Lisa has had her own problems, but

:46:48. > :46:52.she is coming back strongly. The information from the team camp is

:46:52. > :46:56.that Lisa Dobriskey is that flying in training. The last time I heard

:46:56. > :47:01.that comment from the British camp officially was when they told us

:47:01. > :47:06.Kelly Holmes was flying in trading just before the Olympics in 2004. -

:47:06. > :47:13.- training. Her I was in Portugal and I saw Lisa do a very, very good

:47:13. > :47:17.training session. She looked as well as I have ever seen her look.

:47:17. > :47:27.But you still have to negotiate your way out of a semi-final.

:47:27. > :47:31.

:47:31. > :47:35.Kostetskaya leads. Uceny is on her shoulder. Harrer on the inside. The

:47:35. > :47:39.Turkish European champion is just watching and waiting for us up Lisa

:47:39. > :47:42.Dobriskey moving up on the outside because she senses it is a little

:47:42. > :47:46.slow and she wants to be in a position where she has a bit of

:47:46. > :47:51.clear air. She is watching what is going on. Hannah England is a

:47:51. > :47:55.little bit further back. You can throw a blanket over them. It is a

:47:55. > :48:01.little bit dangerous when they come too close together. Lisa Dobriskey

:48:01. > :48:11.is running the right race. She is only yards away from the lead. She

:48:11. > :48:11.

:48:11. > :48:14.is running a few extra yards on the outside, but that doesn't matter.

:48:14. > :48:22.Uceny trying to poison herself on the outside to make them all go the

:48:22. > :48:27.long way round. That is mature distance running. Hannah England

:48:27. > :48:32.needs to be closer. Hannah at her best likes to give herself a long

:48:32. > :48:39.run for home and finished fast in the home straight. They are

:48:39. > :48:42.gathering here. Dobriskey is in a perfect place at the moment. Hannah

:48:42. > :48:50.England will want to get as close as she can, she's at the back of

:48:50. > :48:55.the pack. 400m to go. This has been very slow. Belete is the first to

:48:55. > :49:00.try to push on. Kostetskaya is trying to halt them up and make

:49:00. > :49:04.them run a long way round. Dobriskey is in a good position.

:49:04. > :49:10.Kostetskaya has been caught for a few yards. Hannah England has a lot

:49:10. > :49:13.to do. She looks as though she is struggling. She has to make up some

:49:13. > :49:17.space in the back straight. Otherwise she will get a run-out.

:49:17. > :49:27.Lisa Dobriskey has something to do, but she's holding it. They will

:49:27. > :49:34.

:49:34. > :49:39.come under some pressure. Belete outside. First five. Belete is

:49:39. > :49:44.starting to trouble. Lisa Dobriskey looking good and Hannah England has

:49:44. > :49:54.a bit of work today. Only five are guaranteed a spot. England is going

:49:54. > :50:01.

:50:01. > :50:05.European champion is having the season of her life at the moment.

:50:05. > :50:08.Looking strong. She was in a good position. Lisa didn't panic when

:50:08. > :50:13.they went hard down the back straight and stayed strong and

:50:13. > :50:23.looked for the gap. Maybe 4 Hannah England, those missed weeks of

:50:23. > :50:27.

:50:27. > :50:33.that perfectly. 300 metres to go, down the back straight, Hannah

:50:33. > :50:37.England at the back of the pack. Lisa Dobriskey in fourth place

:50:37. > :50:43.behind Kostetskaya. The two Americans have some work to do, but

:50:43. > :50:47.they are moving quickly. Uceny and Ribery you running strongly. All

:50:47. > :50:53.eyes on Lisa Dobriskey. At this point I thought Anais England might

:50:53. > :50:58.have finished strongly like she did in the war World Championships. But

:50:58. > :51:02.she is not fit. She was not in the right position. If she had been as

:51:02. > :51:06.strong as last year, she would have been able to qualify. Lisa

:51:06. > :51:16.Dobriskey did not even lift the pace. She just kept running and

:51:16. > :51:28.

:51:28. > :51:31.qualifies. Shannon Rowbury, anything in that heat that

:51:31. > :51:37.suggested to me that there's anybody better than Lisa Dobriskey

:51:37. > :51:44.in this race. Looking a what she's doing, checking it out, running

:51:44. > :51:48.well. Sadly, Hannah England was not able to cope with it today having

:51:48. > :51:52.missed training at a crucial point in the season. Lisa Dobriskey was

:51:52. > :51:57.aware of everything going on. That was excellent from Lisa. Really

:51:57. > :52:02.looking forward to her running in the final. That was pretty easy

:52:02. > :52:06.qualification from her point of qualification from her point of

:52:06. > :52:10.view, she was cruising. Both women are with me now. A case of what

:52:11. > :52:16.might have been but for a chunk of restraining? Yes, I'm absolutely

:52:16. > :52:22.gutted. I will forever be wondering what would have happened if I

:52:22. > :52:26.hadn't got injured. I was hoping to get into the final. I will have to

:52:26. > :52:30.have a look at it. We were hoping you would have one of those late

:52:30. > :52:36.surges like at the World Championships. I felt good. I felt

:52:36. > :52:44.ready to strike, it just didn't happen. Absolutely gutted. We will

:52:44. > :52:48.let you warm down, thank you. Lisa, contrasting fortunes. You are

:52:48. > :52:52.through with a tremendous performance. You called on all your

:52:52. > :52:56.experience to get through. definitely. I was so nervous about

:52:56. > :53:00.this race. I've been stressed all day. I just wanted to make another

:53:00. > :53:06.Olympic final. Last year was horrendous so I sympathise with

:53:06. > :53:10.Hannah. I know what it feels like. Clive feel really sad for her.

:53:10. > :53:13.Fingers crossed for Laura. All the reports were you were training so

:53:13. > :53:17.well in Portugal and you have looked good here. Tactically you

:53:17. > :53:21.are getting it right, you stayed out of trouble. Her I thought it

:53:21. > :53:26.would be a slow race. There were no real front-runners in the field. I

:53:26. > :53:31.was prepared for that. It brought on my confidence. I was prepared

:53:32. > :53:35.for anything. It was a bit of a scrap at the end, a lot of girls

:53:35. > :53:39.close together, but I've been following the athletics this week

:53:39. > :53:43.and that seems to be the case and a lot of qualifying rounds. I was

:53:43. > :53:48.just glad to be in the top five. Another Olympic final,

:53:48. > :53:58.congratulations. Her thank you. Can I just say best wishes to genitalia.

:53:58. > :54:14.

:54:14. > :54:17.Steve Cram has joined us in the studio. Over the years I've taken

:54:17. > :54:23.part in so many discussions about British middle-distance runners who

:54:23. > :54:28.have got tactics wrong and have got boxed in. Great to see Lisa run the

:54:29. > :54:32.perfect race. How much of that is down to experience? Do you know

:54:33. > :54:37.what was interesting? There wasn't a normal Lisa Dobriskey race. In

:54:37. > :54:42.the past she has tended to hark the inside line, which we are sometimes

:54:42. > :54:46.nervous about. I am nervous when it is as close as that. When a pack is

:54:46. > :54:50.gathered like that, the inside is not the place to be. She often gets

:54:50. > :54:56.out because of her pace. That was perfect tonight. Absolutely the way

:54:56. > :55:00.to run that race. More of our guys should watch Lisa. She prepares in

:55:00. > :55:07.such a good way that she is able to bring her best game to the Olympics.

:55:07. > :55:11.I hope Laura does. That is Laura Weightman. Your involvement is?

:55:11. > :55:16.her coach, I'm rather nervous! have done all the work now, there's

:55:16. > :55:22.nothing you can do. She has done fantastic to reach the semi-final,

:55:22. > :55:26.anything from here is a bonus. This is a tough race. I said to look at

:55:26. > :55:30.the scoreboard to see what the time was in the semi-final before hand.

:55:30. > :55:37.Just knowing if there are five or seven spots available. A lot of

:55:37. > :55:42.experienced people are in this. A did you tell her to enjoy it?

:55:42. > :55:52.No chance! Steve will be nervous No chance! Steve will be nervous

:55:52. > :56:11.

:56:11. > :56:21.watching this. Paul Dickenson will of her life to try to make it into

:56:21. > :56:21.

:56:21. > :56:28.the final. Almost a little stagger from Aregawi. Maryam Jamal goes

:56:28. > :56:32.into the lead. Steve is in the commentary box. I don't think he

:56:32. > :56:37.can hear me. He has done a brilliant job with Laura Weightman.

:56:37. > :56:40.She has really run well this year. She has really made progress. She

:56:40. > :56:44.ran fantastically well at the championships to book a place here

:56:44. > :56:49.and she is a confident young lady. This is good experience for her.

:56:49. > :56:53.She knows what she has to do. She has been guided well through this.

:56:53. > :56:57.Tomashova takes over, former world champion. I think Laura Weightman

:56:57. > :57:07.can relax a little bit and start to get on with the serious job of

:57:07. > :57:12.running a fast race. Through the finish line for the first time.

:57:12. > :57:16.Tomashova... Laura Weightman in 5th position at the moment. Running

:57:16. > :57:21.comfortably. It will be interesting to see what the 400m split is. It

:57:21. > :57:27.is pretty much on par with the first heat. Tomashova, the double

:57:28. > :57:37.world champion from days go by -- days gone by, is still in the lead.

:57:38. > :57:39.

:57:39. > :57:44.I Geary looks good. -- Obiri. I am looking at Aregawi of Ethiopia.

:57:44. > :57:49.Quite next to Laura Weightman, the two of them are in it good plays.

:57:49. > :57:55.The races starting to move along. You can see little gaps opening.

:57:55. > :58:00.That is sensible. If you were outside the first five, you could

:58:00. > :58:02.get through as a fastest loser. The real test of a nice bit -- athlete

:58:02. > :58:06.is when you come into a championships like this, eight

:58:06. > :58:10.athletes have run faster than Laura Weightman and seven of them have

:58:10. > :58:14.run faster than that this year. She has athletes who off slightly

:58:14. > :58:21.faster than her and everyone she beats is a scalp well worth taking.

:58:21. > :58:31.Lawro mate and -- Laura Weightman is in 6th place, running a very

:58:31. > :58:33.

:58:33. > :58:37.good race. Tomashova leads, Obiri in second. Then Aregawi, the

:58:37. > :58:43.Ethiopian. Jenny Simpson is trying to join her team-mate into the

:58:43. > :58:47.final. A little bit of pushing. Laura Weightman steering clear of

:58:47. > :58:52.trouble at the moment and still looking strong. This is the crucial

:58:52. > :58:56.part of the race. She has to use the next 200m to position herself,

:58:56. > :59:03.to give herself a chance on the last lap. She is strong on the last

:59:03. > :59:09.lap. This is her opportunity at the younger age of 21 to get to an

:59:09. > :59:15.Olympic final. Six athletes around her. Jamal, the former world

:59:15. > :59:21.champion, is coming through on the outside. The bell sounds and the

:59:21. > :59:25.pace lifts. A little bit faster than the last one. Laura Weightman

:59:25. > :59:31.is aware they could beat spaces available. Aregawi is interesting.

:59:31. > :59:36.And Obiri of Kenya. The two of them running well. Laura has to work

:59:36. > :59:41.hard on this lap and pick up the pace. She is in 8th place, she

:59:41. > :59:49.needs a few better than that. Aregawi moves into the lead. Laura

:59:49. > :59:59.Weightman begins to make her move, she has Jamal ahead of her. Aregawi

:59:59. > :00:06.

:00:06. > :00:10.move now. Come on! Aregawi heading for home. There's a real tussle

:00:10. > :00:15.going on between Jamal and the Belorussian. Jamal is coming

:00:15. > :00:25.through for 5th place. Laura Weightman finishes in 7th place.

:00:25. > :00:30.Perhaps. It was a fast time. Faster than the first semi-final. But

:00:30. > :00:40.Aregawi looked absolutely superb. Laura Weightman gave it everything

:00:40. > :00:42.

:00:42. > :00:45.She has to be proud of the weight - - race, she gave everything and was

:00:45. > :00:51.digging indeed. Down the back straight she gave us of a lot to do,

:00:51. > :00:59.but the experience of the athletes like Aregawi, the fast Ethiopian,

:00:59. > :01:03.and a Obiri coming up. And Bulut of Turkey. At this stage you might say

:01:03. > :01:08.Laura is out of it, but she passes the world champion Jamal, moving

:01:08. > :01:12.into 7th place. There are the three fastest losers, and we are checking

:01:12. > :01:22.on the Times from the first heat. The computer is a bit slow at the

:01:22. > :01:23.

:01:23. > :01:29.moment. Aregawi looks good, comfortable. Bulut is there. Does

:01:29. > :01:34.Laura Weightman get passed on the line? That could be crucial for her.

:01:34. > :01:44.A very, very close one. We need to see that. We need to see it more

:01:44. > :01:48.

:01:48. > :01:55.closely. Aregawi, no problem. Bulut, no problem. Caraher there has been

:01:55. > :01:59.given the new smart -- can reverse has been given the nod there. For

:01:59. > :02:06.the computer are still trying to sort this one out. Laura Weightman

:02:06. > :02:14.giving it everything down the home straight. She is into the final! It

:02:14. > :02:24.has just come up on the computer, not on the main scoreboard. 4.0

:02:24. > :02:26.

:02:26. > :02:29.There is a sense of confusion, because the scoreboard had you as

:02:29. > :02:36.8th and you were in tears, thinking she had missed out by one place,

:02:36. > :02:39.and I hope this is correct, but no, you are 7th. What is your reaction?

:02:39. > :02:43.Crossing the line with the seven people there, I couldn't get there.

:02:43. > :02:49.I knew it was close when I did on the line. I hope I have done enough.

:02:49. > :02:52.A personal best, in front of the crowd, I so hope I am in the final.

:02:52. > :02:57.The you gave it everything. Could you tell us what was going through

:02:57. > :03:02.your mind? I hit the bell and just thought to keep going and fight.

:03:02. > :03:08.100 metres to go, and I thought I had to catch the girl ahead of me,

:03:08. > :03:13.and I think I did. I so hope I am in the final. To make an Olympic

:03:13. > :03:19.final at the age of 21, that would be a dream come true. It is a dream

:03:19. > :03:25.to be at the Olympics. It would be even more of a dream to run in this

:03:25. > :03:33.-- for in front of this crowd again. And thank you for talking to us.

:03:33. > :03:43.The reason the result of a long time we will see in a moment, but

:03:43. > :03:50.

:03:50. > :03:54.time we will see in a moment, but best, exactly the same time as

:03:54. > :04:04.clock over, so they had to take it down to the thousands of a second -

:04:04. > :04:15.

:04:15. > :04:19.- as Klocova or -- and it has just Yes! And of course, the last thing

:04:19. > :04:25.Steve Cram said to Laura before she went on to the track was just dip

:04:25. > :04:30.on the line. You think I am joking, but I told her about Moscow in 1980

:04:30. > :04:37.when I was 19 and I got in by one hundredth of a second, in the last

:04:37. > :04:45.stride. I said, down the home straight, you fight and fight. Well

:04:45. > :04:48.done, Laura. Fantastic. Brilliant. Well done. How does it feel?

:04:48. > :04:54.Absolutely unbelievable. Coming down the home straight, wanting to

:04:54. > :05:03.get to the line, and just do it. A personal best, Olympic final. What

:05:03. > :05:05.more can I say? For come back and try again! That was impressive.

:05:05. > :05:10.wasn't commentating, but I was watching you, thinking that you

:05:10. > :05:14.should just keep moving and keep moving. That home straight, we

:05:14. > :05:19.talked about going right to the line, and you did it fantastically

:05:19. > :05:25.well. If there is ever a lesson for anyone to keep going until the line,

:05:25. > :05:29.you have proved it. What an awesome day. You're going to have a better

:05:29. > :05:37.day, Laura. You're going into the final. Thank you so much for

:05:37. > :05:42.talking to us. Coach Steve Cram. It sounds like a movie. Laura is a

:05:42. > :05:47.great athlete. She works so hard and she deserves it. She has worked

:05:47. > :05:52.so hard over the last two years. Two women in the final, terrific.

:05:52. > :05:55.Lisa Dobriskey, a real chance? was watching the slow motion of her

:05:55. > :06:00.down the home straight and she was cruising. She has a great chance in

:06:00. > :06:06.the final. She doesn't need us to put any pressure on us, though, the

:06:06. > :06:09.visit is an open race and she has a great chance. -- because it is aged

:06:09. > :06:15.open race. Forget the Swedish handball players, now it is time to

:06:15. > :06:25.get down to business. For these are the best that have ever assembled

:06:25. > :07:00.

:07:00. > :07:05.is going to win the gold. 9.63. The Wherever Usain Bolt goes, can Blake

:07:05. > :07:11.be far behind? And where you think the relationship is at the moment

:07:11. > :07:15.between the two? You are asking me? Based on what I've heard about

:07:15. > :07:24.Blake, his appetite for training, you have to favour him. You really

:07:24. > :07:27.have. What do you reckon, Colin? Usain Bolt has not run many 200

:07:27. > :07:32.metres races this year, and he is a bit special over this distance, we

:07:32. > :07:38.know that. That metronomic stride pattern, will it be enough to take

:07:38. > :07:45.the result? Let's go back to Steve, doing his day-job, full-time

:07:45. > :07:55.commentator, part-time coach. He is doing what he does best. The semi-

:07:55. > :08:24.

:08:24. > :08:29.finals are mouth-watering, aren't watching Michael Johnson in 1996,

:08:29. > :08:36.and everything we have seen from Usain Bolt, but when this guy ran

:08:36. > :08:46.at 19.6 -- 19.26, we thought he was kidding us. Bruno de Barros has

:08:46. > :08:50.

:08:50. > :08:55.to run the 100 metres and put all of his efforts into this 200. Most

:08:55. > :09:00.considering it a wise choice. Wallace spearman, -- Wallace

:09:00. > :09:10.Spearmon, not the best American team we have seen, but a good

:09:10. > :09:30.

:09:30. > :09:40.men outside. The big names, Blake, Spearmon, Le Maitre. The first two

:09:40. > :10:01.

:10:01. > :10:11.Spearmon has run under 20 seconds what is in the script, and a scrap

:10:11. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :10:56.While the Frenchman ran him down? Blake almost stops! And he does

:10:56. > :11:00.stop! Goodness me, that was risky! In years to come, they will look at

:11:00. > :11:04.the result of the semi-final and say it must have been a close race,

:11:04. > :11:11.three guys in the 10th of the second. But it doesn't tell the

:11:11. > :11:15.story, does it? Blake just easing up. And oh so close. Le Maitre just

:11:15. > :11:21.didn't get round the bend well enough. And it is Spearmon who

:11:21. > :11:25.takes second, just 100 behind Blake. And Christophe LeMaitre are asked

:11:25. > :11:35.to sit and wait and watch and hope that he has done enough. --

:11:35. > :11:37.

:11:37. > :11:42.Christophe LeMaitre has to sit and bend, now he is pumping, but very

:11:42. > :11:47.relaxed. Wallace Spearmon ran a better then than normal, but

:11:47. > :11:57.pressure on the nature and he knows he is in trouble. They just can't

:11:57. > :12:00.

:12:00. > :12:06.get to him. -- pressure on Le and you don't really have to do

:12:06. > :12:13.that. That is a little bit risky in terms of injury as well. But a very

:12:13. > :12:23.impressive race from Yohan Blake, 20.01. Close at the finish, but

:12:23. > :12:23.

:12:23. > :12:29.Blakey in the semi-final, and with Usain Bolt coming up in the next

:12:29. > :12:33.race, we expect him to be battling with him for the gold and silver

:12:33. > :12:40.and the bronze will be left for anyone who can put in it that work

:12:40. > :12:50.to get it. And that will go in the record books as one of the closest

:12:50. > :12:51.

:12:51. > :13:01.semi-finals in Olympic history. But the standard of some of the other

:13:01. > :13:02.

:13:02. > :13:08.runners to come. Let's find out As impressive as ever. Tell me what

:13:08. > :13:12.you will do to turn that form into a golden moment in the final?

:13:12. > :13:19.have to work with the coach. I have been working really hard on the 200

:13:19. > :13:23.metres. I just need to do what the coach says, execute well and take

:13:23. > :13:27.everything from there. When you came into the Games, what was your

:13:27. > :13:32.realistic aim where this event was concerned? Did you see this as the

:13:32. > :13:37.better chance of the gold medal? It's always a good chance for me in

:13:37. > :13:42.every event. That mistakes happen, things happen. I'm grateful for

:13:42. > :13:46.what I've done so far and I will keep going for everything.

:13:46. > :13:56.other head-to-head between you and Usain Bolt. Yes, my good friend,

:14:13. > :14:15.

:14:15. > :14:22.athletes. Eight athletes have been over seven metres, and Shara

:14:22. > :14:26.Proctor is not one of them, but she did qualify. She got the British

:14:54. > :14:59.the world record. He has maintained his first position overall with

:14:59. > :15:03.just the 400 metres to go. He has actually advanced the points

:15:56. > :16:06.time. All the athletes have following winds. She looked good in

:16:06. > :16:14.

:16:22. > :16:28.She looked at -- as though she was running a little bit tight. Unlike

:16:41. > :16:48.bit behind the Plasticine, but not bad. The lead, 6.8 th from Radevica.

:16:48. > :16:58.She is down in 5th place. second semi-final of the 200 metres.

:16:58. > :17:15.

:17:15. > :17:24.But this one features the one and national record-holder. Just 22

:17:29. > :17:33.has run this year. He may have to go faster if he wants to qualify

:17:33. > :17:43.for his first Olympic final. Finally, Aaron Brown, another 20-

:17:43. > :17:49.year-old. Usain Bolt, the world record holder. What a night it was.

:18:53. > :18:58.and outside. But Usain Bolt wins it. Jobodwana in second place. Not as

:18:58. > :19:03.fast as his training partner, but I think from that run, we can gather

:19:03. > :19:08.there is a lot more to come. believe there is. He looks very,

:19:08. > :19:15.very relaxed. Not just down the home stretch. I don't think you

:19:15. > :19:20.round the bend that hard. He got a very good start. A very good start

:19:20. > :19:27.for Usain Bolt. Already up on Quinonez on the outside. I think

:19:27. > :19:34.he's a little bit relaxed already. Another glance there, just

:19:34. > :19:41.extremely relaxed for over 100 metres. 20.18, very impressive,

:19:41. > :19:49.that is what we expect. Quinonez came under pressure there. The

:19:49. > :19:55.young South African, Jobodwana or, keeping up with Usain Bolt today!

:19:55. > :19:59.Very nice for the 20-year-old. He gets himself into the final. We

:19:59. > :20:05.don't see Usain Bolt get a start like that very often, that was a

:20:05. > :20:11.very good start. Again, very relaxed here. His form is looking

:20:11. > :20:15.good round the bend. He knows he will have a little bit more work, I

:20:15. > :20:19.believe, against his training partner, Blake, in this final. But

:20:19. > :20:25.I think he is feeling very confident. He has got the pressure

:20:25. > :20:33.off him after the 100. I don't think he feels much pressure from

:20:33. > :20:39.anyone. Good news for Christophe Lemaitre or with those times. He is

:20:39. > :20:49.still the fastest loser. Jobodwana, a new lifetime best for the young

:20:50. > :20:56.South African, he has done very A magnificent performance once

:20:56. > :21:02.again, even by your standards. That is what they call coasting home!

:21:02. > :21:05.Yes, it is about going through as easy as possible, that was the aim.

:21:05. > :21:09.Yohan Blake has gone through already, it will be a head-to-head,

:21:09. > :21:14.but no doubt who is going to come out on top in your mind? No doubt

:21:14. > :21:18.whatsoever. This is my favourite event, I'm looking forward to it.

:21:18. > :21:22.What about those people coming into the Olympics who were saying, Blake

:21:22. > :21:27.could beat him, now all of a sudden you are the hottest favourite.

:21:27. > :21:32.heard it, but it is how people are. They always doubt the champion. I

:21:32. > :21:41.know what I can do, so I never doubt myself. You would cement your

:21:41. > :21:46.legendary status? Or without a semi-final, and not an easy one. He

:21:46. > :21:56.might have liked to have been in that one, that was the easiest of

:21:56. > :22:00.

:22:00. > :22:06.the three. Coming up in a few qualification for the javelin. This

:22:06. > :22:16.is Vasilevskis of Latvia, one of the best in the world this year.

:22:16. > :22:26.

:22:26. > :22:29.is a huge shock. We all -- also had Thorkildsen, he went through safely,

:22:29. > :22:33.he had an injury problem in the recent European Championships. The

:22:33. > :22:43.javelin, not been the strongest this year, but that is a huge shock

:22:43. > :22:50.

:22:50. > :22:55.for the world No. 2, heading out in start in that occasion. Not

:22:55. > :23:00.sticking close to the inside lane. Coming off it, he then begins to

:23:00. > :23:05.move that -- look around. Very, very relaxed. You see the contrast

:23:05. > :23:09.with everybody else behind him. Guys are all over the place.

:23:09. > :23:19.Jobodwana, actually looking pretty good in his effort to actually keep

:23:19. > :23:24.

:23:24. > :23:27.up with Bolt. Very nice two fouls, and then just scraped

:23:27. > :23:37.through on her third attempt. She is the world indoor long jump

:23:37. > :23:51.

:23:51. > :23:59.metres. The lead was held by Radevica. A disappointing start by

:23:59. > :24:08.Shara Proctor at 6.55. But that, that was special. This woman is

:24:08. > :24:13.some talent. Certainly not like Carl Lewis in terms of technique,

:24:13. > :24:23.but in terms of raw power down the runway and take-off ability, that

:24:23. > :24:57.

:24:57. > :25:07.Malcolm. Warren Weir, this prodigious young talent. Jamaica

:25:07. > :25:07.

:25:07. > :25:15.might have found another great young sprinter. Churandy Martina

:25:15. > :25:25.ran better than his personal best in the final four years ago. He was

:25:25. > :25:36.

:25:36. > :25:46.disqualified for running on the losers at the moment are Lemaitre

:25:46. > :25:55.

:25:55. > :26:00.of a problem for Christian Malcolm 10 years ago -- wouldn't have been.

:26:01. > :26:10.But he has a three or four men in this race, at least, who are on

:26:10. > :26:20.that sort of form can he resurrect some form of old here? He has got a

:26:20. > :26:43.

:26:44. > :26:50.two. He somehow found a job, after running pretty 0.6, third in his

:26:50. > :27:00.heat, that is not a good lane draw. But you just have to wait for the

:27:00. > :27:03.

:27:03. > :27:13.him having the card shown to him, I don't think he's going to hang

:27:13. > :27:26.

:27:26. > :27:36.around for that. But he has already him. It has come up on the computer,

:27:36. > :27:46.

:27:46. > :27:53.before the gun went. And that is applauds, it is polite, but he did

:27:53. > :27:58.something wrong there. A quick word on Christiane? He couldn't have got

:27:58. > :28:02.and a better semi-final, this is the easier of the three. So there

:28:02. > :28:07.is no excuse. But it is still going to be tough, because the young kid

:28:07. > :28:17.from Jamaica who looks like he is 12 programmes like he is 30 will be

:28:17. > :28:32.

:28:32. > :28:42.tough to beat. -- but runs like he Malcolm. He has got to really work

:28:42. > :28:49.

:28:49. > :28:56.thought, but Christian Malcolm get third! We are not far away. If

:28:56. > :29:04.Christian Malcolm has run quicker than 20.37, he had to be at least a

:29:04. > :29:13.third... 20.20 8th was second, I don't think he was close enough,

:29:13. > :29:19.was he? He is third, but it is too slow. He actually ran a very well

:29:19. > :29:29.here considering. He bought himself into contention, he didn't make a

:29:29. > :29:31.

:29:31. > :29:41.good transition. Warren Weir had to accelerate, he knows he is

:29:41. > :29:45.

:29:45. > :29:53.definitely in the final. But again, not a good transition. That is what

:29:53. > :29:57.cost him. Because he may have just got another tent, he could have got

:29:57. > :30:07.a better transition on to the straight. He was in trouble,

:30:07. > :30:07.

:30:07. > :30:11.fighting to get to that line while the other two had already relax. --

:30:11. > :30:21.relaxed. It was always going to be tougher. Unfortunately, not in the

:30:21. > :30:27.

:30:27. > :30:33.Christiane, let me bring you win. No Usain Bolt or Yohan Blake, so

:30:33. > :30:36.you must have fancied your chances. I did. I am disappointed. Last

:30:36. > :30:41.Olympic Games, would have been nice to make the final, but it wasn't to

:30:41. > :30:48.be. Could you have done anything differently? I'm not going to make

:30:48. > :30:52.any excuses. It's just one of those things. I'm getting a bit older and

:30:52. > :30:56.it's not getting easier. That's the last time I'll be running

:30:56. > :31:01.individually in the Olympic Games, but I've had a good time. It's been

:31:01. > :31:05.an amazing atmosphere. I'm disappointed, and it is on to the

:31:05. > :31:10.relay now. A little piece of history, you have been here a 4th

:31:10. > :31:20.time, a record for a sprinter. We will see win the relay. Cheers,

:31:20. > :31:22.

:31:22. > :31:28.not quick enough to advance into the final. So it Martina and Weir

:31:28. > :31:38.will go through. For I think it is between the big men, Blake, Usain

:31:38. > :31:44.

:31:44. > :31:51.massive lead from Brittney Reese, and that is over seven metres and

:31:51. > :32:01.very close. 7.12 is what Brittney Reese jumped. The long jump coming

:32:01. > :32:01.

:32:01. > :32:06.around -- alive in this evening. Sokolova, not much of a

:32:06. > :32:16.championship record, but she did win the Russian trials with 7.06.

:32:16. > :32:17.

:32:17. > :32:27.She is going to be roundabout that distance again. 7.07 for the

:32:27. > :32:33.

:32:33. > :32:40.Shara Proctor having jumped 6.83 in qualifying. Now she sees the gold

:32:40. > :32:50.medal position at 7.12 and a silver at 7.07. Both well in excess of a

:32:50. > :32:58.

:32:58. > :33:08.flag. A red flag for Shara Proctor. She will need to go better in her

:33:08. > :33:12.

:33:12. > :33:22.third attempt. Right on the cut for final. Blake the quickest, but he

:33:22. > :33:33.

:33:33. > :33:38.as well. And Warren Weir will be Quite something, the 200 metres.

:33:38. > :33:42.Usain Bolt really is something special. I am sure he could run the

:33:42. > :33:47.last 10 metres backwards and still have qualified. But that is not

:33:47. > :33:52.what the Olympics is just about, the superstars. For the first time

:33:52. > :33:57.I can ever remember I have cheered home or someone to finish 7th,

:33:57. > :34:06.Laura Weightman. Great to see her naked through to the final. Let's

:34:06. > :34:15.give our team a run-down on what is available on BBC Three -- great to

:34:15. > :34:20.see her making it through to the Whoever wins the hockey semi-final

:34:20. > :34:26.will face the Netherlands, who won on penalties. Highlights later on

:34:26. > :34:36.BBC One. I won't give you the score, but if you fancy,, you know where

:34:36. > :34:54.

:34:54. > :35:04.it is. Drama is everywhere on the # "Gimme Shelter" - The Rolling

:35:04. > :35:13.

:35:13. > :35:19.There is one heck of a storm coming. Sharon is back, soon, on BBC One.

:35:19. > :35:23.Sharon is back, and Usain Bolt and Blake are back on the track tonight

:35:23. > :35:27.and they will be back later in the week for the individual event in

:35:27. > :35:33.the 200 metres. Michael, what was your general thought about how they

:35:33. > :35:39.ran up tonight? They were both very relaxed. Usain Bolt looked most

:35:39. > :35:43.impressive to me. I was particularly struck by Yohan

:35:43. > :35:46.Blake's comment that he thinks it will be interesting in the final.

:35:47. > :35:52.Bolton did not hear his comments that came back with that he would

:35:52. > :35:58.be ready and he was going to win it, basically. He said he would win it,

:35:58. > :36:08.really. A very interesting rivalry that is also a friendship, training

:36:08. > :36:08.

:36:09. > :36:12.knocked executing very much. He looked a little bit tight -- not

:36:12. > :36:18.executing. But today he looks relaxed. Very much in control of

:36:18. > :36:25.the race. Easily qualifying into the final with a very, very

:36:25. > :36:27.impressive time as well. He eased up dramatically at the end. I think

:36:27. > :36:36.he feels confident that he has a better chance in the 200 metres

:36:36. > :36:40.What I get from his demeanour is, it that if he gets a silver medal

:36:41. > :36:47.again, that is great. Because that is against Usain Bolt. He is in a

:36:47. > :36:52.good position where anybody can challenge him for silver. So he has

:36:52. > :36:57.only the up side, so that's a good situation for him. Another medal

:36:57. > :37:02.ceremony. I don't think I have heard the German national anthem

:37:03. > :37:12.too often in the Games. I don't have the Medal list to hand, but I

:37:13. > :37:15.

:37:15. > :37:18.don't get the impression they have had the best 10 days or so. We saw

:37:18. > :37:28.him celebrating his victory last night by hurdling the wrong way

:37:28. > :37:30.

:37:30. > :37:38.down the track. Paul Dickenson does The double world champion, and now

:37:38. > :37:44.the Olympic champion as well. Flanking him, the winner of the

:37:44. > :37:54.Iran's first ever track and field medal and the Estonian defending

:37:54. > :37:54.

:37:54. > :38:49.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:38:49. > :38:54.champion, when he came into the Lawrence Okoye eight, the young

:38:54. > :39:01.Briton, he finished 12th in his famed -- first international final

:39:01. > :39:10.but he will pay homage to this man, the Olympic discus champion, Robert

:39:10. > :39:15.Harting. I am sure there are many German viewers screaming at us

:39:16. > :39:21.about their medal tally, seven gold medals, and there is Robert, the

:39:21. > :39:26.7th man. Lies, damn lies, and statistics. What about Usain Bolt

:39:26. > :39:30.and the fact you said that Blake would be happy with the silver? Is

:39:30. > :39:35.he been intimidating factor on everyone else just by virtue of his

:39:35. > :39:41.presence, or is it because the statistics say you cannot beat him?

:39:41. > :39:47.The statistics add up. And I think his demeanour, everything about him,

:39:47. > :39:50.it exudes confidence, presence and that must be intimidating everybody

:39:50. > :39:55.else. They are looking for a chink in the armour. They are looking for

:39:55. > :39:58.some signs that something is not right, and they only have to hear

:39:58. > :40:04.him speak, if they heard any of the interviews, he is ready for

:40:04. > :40:08.business. Whenever people were in the world, athletes from Africa,

:40:08. > :40:13.where ever else, they saw the pictures of the Jamaican trials and

:40:13. > :40:18.saw Usain Bolt being beaten, did they think they had a chance?

:40:18. > :40:24.think they thought but Blake has a chance, but we don't really have a

:40:24. > :40:30.chance. I don't think he is intimidating to most athletes. I

:40:31. > :40:34.think they don't think about him. Blake is the only one who thinks

:40:34. > :40:40.maybe there may be a chink in the armour, but most athletes will

:40:40. > :40:47.think that Usain Bolt is going to do his they are not worried he is

:40:47. > :40:51.jovial and he jokes about it. I don't think they are intimidated,

:40:51. > :40:55.it is just the statistics. The numbers do not lie. The guide is so

:40:55. > :40:59.much better than any one of them could imagine even being -- that

:40:59. > :41:04.guy. They focus on him and let him do his thing, which is to take the

:41:04. > :41:08.gold every time. I am sure we will discuss this over the lek -- next

:41:08. > :41:15.few days, but the final will be a treat. We have the women's 400

:41:15. > :41:25.metres hurdles final coming up. Still plenty happening in the long

:41:25. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:31.thinking. A foul in the second round. In eighths after the third

:41:31. > :41:39.round and only the top eight will go through. Plenty of jumpers can

:41:39. > :41:43.go be on the next 6.55, so the next jump is crucial. The last time we

:41:43. > :41:48.saw Shara Proctor jumping in Britain was at Crystal Palace where

:41:48. > :41:51.she broke the long-standing British record, so she knows she is in good

:41:51. > :42:01.shape and led the qualifiers coming into the final. Meanwhile, Brittney

:42:01. > :42:15.

:42:15. > :42:23.Reese, with 7.12 in the second foul. She can just go for it now,

:42:23. > :42:27.can't she? 7.12 could easily be the winning jump, despite the fact you

:42:27. > :42:30.have 7.07 and Nazarova who has jumped 7.11 this year. But that

:42:30. > :42:40.would be worthy of an Olympic champion, so it is all about

:42:40. > :42:43.

:42:43. > :42:47.pushing the envelope and seeing how tantalisingly sitting in 8th

:42:47. > :42:57.position, but that could change. Shara Proctor really needs a good

:42:57. > :42:57.

:42:57. > :43:01.jumper, a solid jump in the third round. Ineta Radevica, the big hope

:43:01. > :43:11.for Latvia in this competition. A cracking start to the competition,

:43:11. > :43:30.

:43:30. > :43:38.6.88. She did set the early pace. further than 6.88. Gets the white

:43:38. > :43:44.flag, though. Already she has achieved in this long jump final

:43:44. > :43:48.when in excess of the season's best -- well in excess. Certainly was.

:43:48. > :43:56.She was having a disappointing season so far, but has come into

:43:56. > :44:03.the Olympic final in good shape. 6.74, not far behind the leading

:44:03. > :44:07.jump she has achieved so far. Just a reminder, Shara Proctor, 6.55,

:44:07. > :44:13.her best jump and there are only eight athletes who will go through

:44:13. > :44:19.to take a further three jumps in this event, and she is in 8th

:44:19. > :44:24.position at the moment. We are a few minutes away from the first

:44:24. > :44:34.final on the track, the women's 400 metre hurdles. This is how it will

:44:34. > :45:07.

:45:07. > :45:11.race. T'Erea Brown. It is going to be difficult for her on the inside,

:45:11. > :45:15.and she was third in the American trials. No defending champion of

:45:15. > :45:25.course. Walker did not make it through. A bit of a surprise,

:45:25. > :45:34.

:45:34. > :45:40.it over the last year or two, Hejnova. She has been a great rival

:45:40. > :45:49.of Paris shakes Drayton. -- Perri Shakes-Drayton. Olympic bronze

:45:49. > :45:55.medallist at the 400 metres flat back in Athens, Antyukh. A Odumosu,

:45:55. > :45:58.the Commonwealth champion, from Nigeria. There would have been a

:45:58. > :46:03.time when you would have been pencilling in Lashinda Demus as the

:46:03. > :46:12.winner of this race. She was in great form last season, but not as

:46:12. > :46:20.good this year. Georganne Moline has made a big, big step forward

:46:20. > :46:25.this year at this event. 54.8 31, her new personal best. And Spencer,

:46:25. > :46:31.it was her turn last year to pick up an injury going into Daegu, it

:46:31. > :46:41.looked as if 2011 was going to be her year. So who is going to take

:46:41. > :46:51.this title? Russia last one it in Sydney, 12 years ago. -- last won

:46:51. > :46:51.

:46:51. > :47:01.it. This event, only held for the first time back in 1984. The

:47:01. > :47:19.

:47:19. > :47:23.get out and attack this, but so does a Lashinda Demus. Probably

:47:23. > :47:27.half a metre advantage over the Russian at the moment. The two of

:47:27. > :47:37.them are taking it to the field here. Spencer has also started

:47:37. > :47:38.

:47:38. > :47:44.really quickly out there in honourable lady 9. -- lane 9. Brown

:47:44. > :47:54.has had a good 250, but it is Antyukh, the strong, Port Russian,

:47:54. > :48:00.into the home straight. Two hurdles to go, and it is clear. -- Antyukh.

:48:00. > :48:10.She stutters, and Lashinda Demus comes at her. Antyukh tries to hang

:48:10. > :48:10.

:48:11. > :48:16.on, and wins the Gold! Lashinda Demus, the silver. She nearly lost

:48:16. > :48:24.it, she had it, was almost thinking, Olympic champion, Olympic champion,

:48:24. > :48:29.and all the sudden didn't get it right going into the last hurdle.

:48:29. > :48:35.Lashinda Demus stormed up inside the Russian, but she was big, and

:48:35. > :48:40.she was strong, and she hung on. That is what it means to her. Two

:48:40. > :48:50.Olympic medals in two different events. This time, it is the gold.

:48:50. > :48:51.

:48:51. > :48:58.And what a time. 52.7, 7th on the all-time list. One of the best runs

:48:58. > :49:05.of Lashinda Demus's career. Hejnova came through to take the bronze.

:49:05. > :49:10.I am surprised about that time, 52.70. Earlier in the season most

:49:10. > :49:13.of the struggles -- girls have struggled to break 54 seconds, and

:49:13. > :49:21.they are now in tip-top shape, delivering a sensational

:49:21. > :49:27.performances. Antyukh can go so much quicker than this. Paul and

:49:27. > :49:37.rangy, we know, fast, we know. But her technique, boy oh boy... She

:49:37. > :49:38.

:49:38. > :49:44.needs to get more fluency in this event. If she ever, ever used a

:49:44. > :49:54.technique that she has, the speed that she has, with a genuinely good

:49:54. > :50:08.

:50:08. > :50:18.hurdling rhythm, she would take Hanover. -- Hejnova of the Czech

:50:18. > :50:31.

:50:32. > :50:40.think. She sat a little bit back at take-off. Just short of the board.

:50:40. > :50:46.Three more jumpers are due to go. She has not made a mark so far.

:50:46. > :50:53.Kolchanova, with two of fouls, is a danger to her. It is really just

:50:53. > :50:59.one Russian who could knock her out of the top rate. -- the top eight.

:50:59. > :51:05.She knows that is not any improvement. Her coach also coaches

:51:05. > :51:10.Christian Taylor, we will see in the triple jump tomorrow night. He

:51:10. > :51:20.has got quite a family of athletes he carriages, all doing very well

:51:20. > :51:30.indeed. This is Kolchanova. Over seven metres at her best. An

:51:30. > :51:43.

:51:43. > :51:53.that could well be the end of a Shara Proctor's Olympic final. If

:51:53. > :51:54.

:51:54. > :51:57.that is the case, it is a massive disappointment. Anguilla don't have

:51:57. > :52:02.a national Olympic committee, so she changed allegiance to Britain

:52:02. > :52:10.so she could compete in these Olympic Games. Shara Proctor is

:52:10. > :52:13.down in 9th place. She will not jump again. Huge comic huge

:52:13. > :52:23.disappointment and these huge shock after the form she she has shown in

:52:23. > :52:30.

:52:30. > :52:37.have been a few disappointments, Goldie Sayers, or other field

:52:37. > :52:44.events. I suppose Saturday was such an extraordinary day, we expected

:52:44. > :52:50.the momentum to carry through the rest of the team. But it is such an

:52:50. > :52:58.unbelievably competitive sport, we were being unrealistic, in assent?

:52:58. > :53:02.I don't know if it is unrealistic, I just think this British athletics

:53:02. > :53:06.team now come to expect... They have all trained very well, Shara

:53:06. > :53:10.Proctor has jumped really well this season, she came into this

:53:10. > :53:16.competition with high hopes. I think you have to be ambitious, you

:53:16. > :53:19.have got to extend yourself. But she had run up issues, just maybe

:53:19. > :53:25.she was thinking about the outcome of the competition before she

:53:25. > :53:33.actually did the job. That is such a shame for her. New British record

:53:33. > :53:39.this year, she had the ability to really get through to the final.

:53:39. > :53:44.our interest level in the long jump diminishes, let's talk about the

:53:44. > :53:52.women's 200 metres final. This is a mouth-watering clash. We talked

:53:52. > :53:56.about the 100 metres final came and went and we thought, who one that?

:53:56. > :54:02.-- who won that? This one is a really competitive race, all the

:54:02. > :54:08.double-barrelled people, Campbell- Brown, Allyson Felix, Carmelita

:54:09. > :54:17.Jeter, an all-star line-up. Your thoughts are? For me there is only

:54:17. > :54:21.one woman, Allyson Felix. She just looked majestic. She ran

:54:21. > :54:28.brilliantly, left everyone in her wake at the Olympic trials in the

:54:28. > :54:33.US. I think she could do the same again. They are going to come and

:54:33. > :54:36.try and take the race to her around the turn, but I just think, with

:54:36. > :54:41.the class that she has, with the turn of speed she has, Allyson

:54:41. > :54:49.Felix has got to win this. estate would be closely competitive

:54:49. > :54:56.race, some phenomenally good That world record, Brent gritters

:54:56. > :55:03.Joura, is that ever going to be bid? It was a sensational run, I

:55:03. > :55:13.was there, in Seoul. It took all of our breath away. But Allyson Felix

:55:13. > :55:13.

:55:13. > :55:20.is a class athlete, she has a great personal best, she has run could be

:55:20. > :55:25.1.69, conditions are perfect out there. -- 21.69. The general

:55:25. > :55:32.perception is that Florence Griffith joined a's 100 metres

:55:32. > :55:36.record and may it last in perpetuity. But there is a

:55:36. > :55:41.possibility that this might go at some point. I absolutely, Allyson

:55:41. > :55:48.Felix is good enough, she is a strong, strong athlete. She has a

:55:48. > :55:53.great coach, who actually coached Florence Griffith Joyner. So I

:55:53. > :55:57.think her destiny could actually be the world record. We talked about

:55:57. > :56:02.these been perfect running conditions, why are they perfect?

:56:02. > :56:08.Are it is still, and it is warm. They spent a lot of time in their

:56:08. > :56:12.warm-up, outside, they keep their core temperature nice and warm, so

:56:12. > :56:17.when they go outside, they strip off, they would be air temperature

:56:17. > :56:22.to be nice and pleasant, just cool enough so you can feel the air

:56:22. > :56:28.around you. This promises to be one of the highlight of these

:56:28. > :56:33.championships. Often the women get overshadowed by the men, but I

:56:33. > :56:38.think this is competitive right to the last, but I think it is a

:56:38. > :56:43.flight -- a fight for silver and bronze. This promises to be a

:56:43. > :56:50.fantastic race. Stick with us here, but some great action is also

:56:50. > :56:56.taking place on BBC Three. Maybe you can record that! It is the

:56:56. > :57:01.second semi-final of the windows -- women's hockey. They have just gone

:57:01. > :57:10.into the second half. The winner goes into the final against the

:57:10. > :57:13.Netherlands. So here we go for what is an eagerly awaited race.

:57:13. > :57:23.Wouldn't it be great if we had a world record? Without tempting

:57:23. > :57:40.

:57:40. > :57:49.He is the line-up. -- here is the almost a unique double, Sanya

:57:49. > :57:56.Richards Ross. The fastest woman in the world, Allyson Felix of the USA.

:57:56. > :58:06.The fast rising Ivory Coast athlete, Murielle Ahoure. And the 100 metres

:58:06. > :58:11.

:58:11. > :58:21.silver medallist, Carmelita Jeter 22.56 it occurred to reach this

:58:21. > :58:21.

:58:22. > :58:27.final. -- it took her. Trinidad and Tobago's finest, Semoy Hackett, he

:58:27. > :58:32.called her a national record to reach this final. -- equalled her a

:58:32. > :58:40.national record. The effervescent Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. Trying to

:58:40. > :58:43.do the double that Florence Griffith Joyner did in 1988.

:58:43. > :58:47.Veronica Campbell-Brown is going for a historic third individual

:58:48. > :58:57.gold medal, it has never been done by a woman, or any body in the

:58:58. > :59:08.

:59:08. > :59:14.history of the Olympics in a track 400 metres champion here in London.

:59:14. > :59:23.The double was done back here in 1996. The incredible talent of

:59:23. > :59:26.Allyson Felix has taken her to 21.69 seconds of this year. The 4th

:59:27. > :59:34.fastest time in history. She looks very businesslike here in this

:59:34. > :59:42.final. The world indoor silver medallist, no real a very, she has

:59:42. > :59:47.a cracking start. -- Murielle Ahoure. In the 100 metres,

:59:47. > :59:57.Carmelita Jeter ran a Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce very close for that

:59:57. > :00:00.

:00:00. > :00:07.gold medal. Her best this year, 22.11. We will be watching Allyson

:00:07. > :00:14.Felix closely. She has been working on her start, but can she beat the

:00:14. > :00:18.experience and the magnificent record of Veronica Campbell-Brown?

:00:18. > :00:24.Gold and silver has been one by the same athlete in the last two

:00:24. > :00:34.Olympics. Campbell-Brown at the gold twice, Allyson Felix the gold

:00:34. > :00:51.

:00:51. > :00:57.twice. Is it the American's destiny home straight. Fraser-Pryce going

:00:57. > :01:05.for the unique double here. But it is Allyson Felix all the way.

:01:05. > :01:10.Fraser-Pryce gets the silver. And Carmelita Jeter gets a bronze. Well,

:01:10. > :01:19.I thought the Jamaicans would come back to Allyson Felix. A cracking

:01:19. > :01:24.time. 21.88. She has the broadest smile in track-and-field athletics.

:01:24. > :01:30.And she has the fastest legs this year in the 200 metres. Allyson

:01:30. > :01:37.Felix is the Olympic champion in a field that had every top-class the

:01:37. > :01:46.200 metres runner available. She beat everybody. Allyson Felix,

:01:46. > :01:51.21.88. Fraser-Pryce then dipped under her lifetime best. And

:01:51. > :01:57.Carmelita Jeter beats Veronica Campbell-Brown. For the flask --

:01:57. > :02:01.first time in a long time Veronica Campbell-Brown is out of the medals.

:02:01. > :02:05.So what do you think about that, Michael? Very impressive. Allyson

:02:05. > :02:11.Felix, what was most impressive, and I knew she would be in the lead

:02:11. > :02:15.coming round, but was she going to be able to hold off Fraser-Pryce

:02:15. > :02:20.and Carmelita Jeter? The first time she has ever won the Olympic gold

:02:20. > :02:25.medal in this event. She has been would world champion several times.

:02:25. > :02:31.-- the world champion. Let's look at the start. Allyson Felix with a

:02:31. > :02:36.great start, Fraser-Pryce with a better start, and she is already

:02:36. > :02:40.making up ground on Campbell-Brown, the defending champion. Allyson

:02:40. > :02:49.Felix just with a slight lead and coming under attack but she is able

:02:49. > :02:53.to hold on. Carmelita Jeter on the outside getting up for a bronze

:02:53. > :03:01.medal. Very impressive for her to hold off Veronica Campbell-Brown

:03:01. > :03:06.and Sanya Richards-Ross. That was a great race with some great talent.

:03:06. > :03:11.A 400 metres gold medallist, are 100 metres gold medallist, and now

:03:12. > :03:17.a 200 metres gold medallist in Allyson Felix. Felix with a long

:03:18. > :03:23.stride, but a short torso and long legs which makes her a great

:03:23. > :03:29.sprinter. Very nice technique. What makes Allyson Felix so you need the

:03:29. > :03:32.she can go down to the 100 metres and move up to the 400 metres. She

:03:33. > :03:40.attempted that double with the two were hundred last year and just

:03:41. > :03:49.missed out on the Gold, but that speed for a 200 metres runner is

:03:49. > :03:52.deadly and cannot be matched, and it certainly wasn't matched today.

:03:52. > :04:02.Before hundred metres champion at Sanya Richards-Ross finished in 5th.

:04:02. > :04:13.

:04:13. > :04:23.But what a result -- of the 400 not create history tonight,

:04:23. > :04:24.

:04:24. > :04:29.We were getting ahead of ourselves in thinking it might be the second

:04:29. > :04:34.fastest time in history, but still an impressive performance. Anything

:04:34. > :04:41.under 22 seconds in the female sprinter event, it's an incredible

:04:41. > :04:51.performance. The most surprising thing was Fraser-Pryce, we were

:04:51. > :05:02.

:05:02. > :05:11.expecting her to be so good in the think we were in despair least that

:05:11. > :05:14.-- we were in disbelief that Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce was still

:05:14. > :05:18.in contention. We did know she had beaten Campbell-Brown in the

:05:18. > :05:26.Jamaican trials, so she has been working on that speed endurance

:05:26. > :05:32.which has been devastating. USA, Jamaica, USA, Jamaica, the sprint

:05:32. > :05:34.relay will be sensational. mention there has been no world

:05:34. > :05:40.record in the championships yet, but I think in the relay will need

:05:40. > :05:45.one to take the gold medal. But Allyson Felix, a supreme athlete.

:05:45. > :05:48.Really good for the USA Track field team. They have not had many medals.

:05:49. > :05:55.Michael has been feeling a bit nervous about their prospects, but

:05:55. > :06:05.I think they will start getting the goals now. He said it was his worst

:06:05. > :06:06.

:06:06. > :06:09.nightmare, Britain finish above the What 0 track final tonight. Here is

:06:09. > :06:19.the men's sprint hurdle. If you weren't with us with the semi-

:06:19. > :06:24.

:06:24. > :06:34.and the two fastest in the final, so Lawrence Clarke will need to run

:06:34. > :06:44.

:06:45. > :06:54.all take you will be second, and Lawrence Clarke third. He has given

:06:55. > :07:04.

:07:05. > :07:09.but a great run from Lawrence national flag at the opening

:07:09. > :07:15.ceremony. The world champion in 2009. And a tremendous reception

:07:15. > :07:25.for Andy Turner. European champion, Commonwealth Games champion and the

:07:25. > :07:41.

:07:41. > :07:49.fastest qualifier in the semi- comfortably. Andy Turner I think is

:07:49. > :07:55.in 4th. 12.94. Only 100 to the second outside of his best time

:07:55. > :08:03.ever. Disappointment for Andy Turner. But Lawrence Clarke still

:08:03. > :08:13.in a fastest loser position at the mind. On to the third semi-final.

:08:13. > :08:33.

:08:33. > :08:42.impressive, as we did not expected to be in the previous heat. And

:08:42. > :08:51.looking up, 13.28. So, Lawrence Clarke makes it through, which is

:08:51. > :08:57.The final coming up very shortly, and the sun has gone down, so the

:08:57. > :09:01.orbit is eliminated and the Olympic stadium is in silver. We were

:09:01. > :09:09.speculating that they could and painted gold on Saturday night, but

:09:09. > :09:15.perhaps that was self-indulgence -- America have not won this final

:09:15. > :09:23.since Atlanta. Yes, we have had some great hurdlers, but they have

:09:23. > :09:33.come up short. It would not really surprise me if Merit won the gold.

:09:33. > :09:40.I would actually predict they would go 1 and 2. They have been so good.

:09:40. > :09:50.Jason Richardson, world champion from last year. He is also very

:09:50. > :09:53.

:09:53. > :10:00.confident but Meriitt has been on fire. Some people at lunchtime

:10:00. > :10:08.today said that when all they march odds with medals, you cannot people

:10:08. > :10:14.running at the same time, so we are talking about fine margins. Why do

:10:14. > :10:20.some people run with long hair? Richardson's hair, aerodynamically,

:10:20. > :10:25.this is what the punters are saying, is there not a possibility of 100

:10:25. > :10:30.to the second that could be the difference between gold and silver?

:10:30. > :10:35.I cannot really answer that. Maybe, yes. But he has had that hair for

:10:35. > :10:40.ever. He races with them, trains with them. Let his feet do the

:10:40. > :10:44.talking and his technique. These were American track and field fans

:10:44. > :10:51.genuinely asking a question. He is like Samson, if you cut them off,

:10:51. > :10:54.he might not be able to run. People do ask these questions. And from a

:10:54. > :10:58.British perspective, there is Lawrence Clarke, we could have seen

:10:59. > :11:05.Andy Turner in this, but we ended up with Lawrence Clarke and he ran

:11:05. > :11:13.the race of his life to get here. Lawrence is the fastest in the

:11:13. > :11:17.country and he has had a time of 13.14. The most consistent of the

:11:17. > :11:22.hurdlers and at the healthiest one is Lawrence Clarke. He will

:11:22. > :11:28.certainly love this situation. He will either get close to a personal

:11:28. > :11:38.best or will absolutely hit the mark. Here we go, the last track

:11:38. > :11:39.

:11:39. > :12:27.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:12:27. > :12:31.personified. 12.93, 12.93, 12.93, 12.94. If he does anything like

:12:31. > :12:35.that here, it will make it difficult for Richardson, but this

:12:35. > :12:45.man has a little bit left in the tank, from what we saw from

:12:45. > :12:50.

:12:50. > :12:57.had so many great champions. And what about Lawrence Clarke? Via

:12:57. > :13:07.Summerfield School, then Eton College. Bath with Malcolm Arnold

:13:07. > :13:11.

:13:11. > :13:21.and the crew, and now he arrives at you are in the Olympic final, and

:13:21. > :13:27.

:13:27. > :13:37.personal best to make it through. Jason Richardson, the world

:13:37. > :13:44.

:13:44. > :13:47.entertainment management. What a perfect combination! Robles of Cuba.

:13:47. > :13:51.The defending champion, and injuries have curtailed his

:13:51. > :14:01.progress this year, but do not write him off. The favourite,

:14:01. > :14:01.

:14:01. > :14:11.number one in the world, Aries Merritt. He has maintained that

:14:11. > :14:11.

:14:11. > :14:21.position right the way through to Jamaican record holder. He said

:14:21. > :14:33.

:14:33. > :14:37.that in the semi-final, 13.14. -- Brathwaite. He gave something for

:14:37. > :14:47.Barbados to cheer about. The 21- year-old there, trying to following

:14:47. > :14:52.

:14:52. > :14:58.the footsteps of Robles. Merritt said he had to change something.

:14:58. > :15:02.Seven strides to the first hurdle, and he has to do that. If he gets

:15:03. > :15:10.there first a fright, the second half takes care of itself. -- the

:15:10. > :15:15.first half right. Can Richardson hang on to him? Will we see the

:15:15. > :15:25.drama we saw in last year's world championship final? Lawrence Clarke,

:15:25. > :15:52.

:15:52. > :15:58.all he had to do was to bring his best form, at the right time, and

:15:58. > :16:06.he did it again. It is a shame to see the champion go out like that.

:16:06. > :16:13.But Merritt, all the way. That is what he has been doing all year.

:16:13. > :16:17.12.92, a new personal best for Aries Merritt. And to deliver it

:16:17. > :16:21.when you needed it most, when things were clattering around you,

:16:21. > :16:27.when Robles was pulling up, well done to Lawrence Clarke as well, he

:16:27. > :16:33.acquitted himself very well. Parchment, with a new national

:16:33. > :16:39.record for the bronze medal for Jamaica. Once more, the high

:16:39. > :16:45.hurdles gold medal belongs to the USA. He deserves it, he has been

:16:45. > :16:50.the world No. 1. And Clarke did get 4th, it was very close on the line.

:16:50. > :16:57.He has done very well. Not quite as far as he ran in the semi-final,

:16:57. > :17:02.but 4th in the Olympic Games. Well done, Lawrence Clarke. That is a

:17:02. > :17:08.real coming-of-age. I'm sure you will be full of praise for him,

:17:08. > :17:13.Colin. Who shall we start with? And Laurent is on the screen, a

:17:13. > :17:17.fantastic performance. He will be happy with that 4th place. Remember

:17:17. > :17:22.him and his coach, came to the decision it was important that he

:17:22. > :17:27.got to the semi-final. Anything after that would be a bonus. 4th

:17:27. > :17:33.place is like a gold medal performance of Paul Lawrence Clarke.

:17:33. > :17:40.Here is the whole field. Out of the blocks, we know Merritt is going to

:17:40. > :17:44.be quick, he is it the world No. 1. By now, he is already clear, all he

:17:44. > :17:51.needs to do is focus on the barriers in front of him, make sure

:17:51. > :17:56.he makes no mistake. He knows he just needs to hurdle clean. He will

:17:56. > :18:05.be happy with a new personal best, and in second place, Jason

:18:05. > :18:11.Richardsons of the USA. But they run Robles, he snuck in there for a

:18:11. > :18:18.bit, but I think injury caused him to go right away back. Lawrence

:18:18. > :18:26.Clarke, he was aggressive, a really good performance. Have bitter

:18:26. > :18:36.battle with the top players in the world. -- happy to battle. He can

:18:36. > :18:41.

:18:41. > :18:46.go home and say, 2012 has been very he is always aggressive into the

:18:46. > :18:50.barriers. He is one of these hurdlers who was always confident

:18:50. > :18:57.in his hurdling technique, so he will always be very aggressive at

:18:57. > :19:04.them. His for it comes up and snakes beautifully over the barrier,

:19:04. > :19:08.allowing him to drag the trail led quicker. He just needs to keep

:19:08. > :19:15.focused, he is doing battle with somebody on his right, and he wants

:19:15. > :19:25.to win that right -- battle. And when it he does. Well done indeed.

:19:25. > :19:26.

:19:26. > :19:30.You could have been happier, having watched that back! Are, believe I

:19:30. > :19:34.came 4th in the Olympic Games, I didn't expect to make the finals.

:19:34. > :19:40.But at the South Africa next to me is a big guy, he looks like an

:19:40. > :19:44.American football player. I wouldn't have got a medal, that is

:19:44. > :19:49.ridiculous for a bronze medal. aim was to reach the semi-finals,

:19:49. > :19:53.so to do this in the final is amazing. I treated the semi-final

:19:53. > :19:58.as a final and I ran a personal best there, it was a dream come

:19:58. > :20:03.true. I had an awful waiting game to see if I was in the final or not,

:20:04. > :20:10.I'm really pleased I was here, the crowd was absolutely amazing. The

:20:10. > :20:15.last four years have been an amazing journey, my coach has taken

:20:15. > :20:19.me to running these times now, I can't thank him enough now. UK

:20:19. > :20:22.Sport, the lottery funding system has been amazing as well. If we

:20:22. > :20:26.told you at the start of the age would have been fought in the

:20:26. > :20:30.Olympic final, what would you have said? A wouldn't have believed you,

:20:30. > :20:36.but I would definitely have taken that. To win a medal at the Olympic

:20:36. > :20:42.Games is very, very hard, I never came here with that expectation. To

:20:42. > :20:52.come forth, I have beaten the European silver medallists, I just

:20:52. > :20:57.

:20:57. > :21:02.can't believe it. A at the age of defending champion. He caught one

:21:02. > :21:09.of those barriers comedy has to pull up, injured. It has been the

:21:09. > :21:14.story of his life recently. Sad to see any defending champion go out

:21:14. > :21:22.like that. But there is a new champion, and he is a worthy one,

:21:22. > :21:29.Aries Merritt of the USA. His last five races, three of them have been

:21:29. > :21:39.run in 12.93. We think we might even get an American record, but it

:21:39. > :21:46.

:21:46. > :21:49.didn't matter to him, he has got for it, but he had some clearer air.

:21:49. > :21:59.Parchment, what a championship for him, he got better and better.

:21:59. > :22:04.

:22:04. > :22:11.Another national record, for the long jump. Deloach, silver medal in

:22:11. > :22:20.doors, behind the current leader, Brittney Reese. The hitch kick, you

:22:20. > :22:26.don't often see that with the women's jumpers. That looks better.

:22:26. > :22:36.Third place at the moment, 6.88. It was the second round where it all

:22:36. > :22:39.

:22:39. > :22:49.smooth the through the air, and she has improved. Into bronze medal

:22:49. > :23:12.

:23:12. > :23:21.got a white flag. It is going to be a nervous wait for her, and also

:23:21. > :23:29.for Deloach! I tell you what, you would buy that, for your final jump,

:23:29. > :23:34.for accuracy on the board. Absolutely. There is no way that

:23:34. > :23:44.Rudder Beecher, in this competition -- Radevica, was thinking about a

:23:44. > :23:50.medal. She has got the bronze medal, it is confirmed. Radevica had to go

:23:50. > :24:00.over 6.89. She didn't. Two medals guaranteed for the USA in this

:24:00. > :24:10.competition. It has been a good performance from the Latvian. So

:24:10. > :24:36.

:24:36. > :24:39.will it be gold or silver for the attack on the board, it was

:24:39. > :24:46.slightly lacklustre. It was almost as if she didn't believe she could

:24:46. > :24:54.go any further, she was satisfied with the sink -- silver medal.

:24:54. > :25:01.There is the Olympic champion, Brittney Reese. Massively talented,

:25:01. > :25:08.still pretty raw in terms of her technique. But her speed, combined

:25:08. > :25:13.with her natural strength, propels her 27 metres and 12. The same as

:25:13. > :25:18.Radevica, she takes the silver medal. And here is the Olympic

:25:18. > :25:28.champion. What a wonderful position to be in. The last jump of the

:25:28. > :25:32.competition. She can just relax, run fast and hopefully jump far!

:25:32. > :25:37.think she's the only long jumper in recent years who looks as though

:25:37. > :25:43.she could challenge some of the performances that we saw in the

:25:43. > :25:53.1980s. Nice moment. The new Olympic champion just want to finish off

:25:53. > :26:05.

:26:05. > :26:13.doesn't really matter. A red flag, inconsequential. The celebrations

:26:13. > :26:22.can begin. But so many of the athlete to win here, it is almost

:26:22. > :26:32.too much to take in. It is what you dream of, day-in, day-out. The USA

:26:32. > :26:43.

:26:43. > :26:49.Many American flags in the crowd. Sokolova takes the silver medal.

:26:49. > :26:59.Deloach makes it two medals out of three for the USA. Certainly has

:26:59. > :27:04.

:27:04. > :27:14.been a good evening for the star- gold medallists, Aries Merritt,

:27:14. > :27:17.

:27:17. > :27:23.delighted to have one that final. - You have been the world No. 1,

:27:23. > :27:26.dealt with the pressure, and now you have a gold medal. I'm so

:27:26. > :27:31.excited, words got even explain it. Everybody was talking about a world

:27:31. > :27:37.record, but if you don't have the conditions to bag a world record,

:27:37. > :27:41.there is no way you can do it. It is a phenomenal time, into a

:27:41. > :27:46.headwind, maybe that would have been the other way around, who

:27:46. > :27:53.knows? Still, a remarkable performance, how do stage so cool,

:27:53. > :27:58.you delivered, round after round. trained for this, my training is

:27:58. > :28:02.very intense, and in practice, I do some ridiculous things. I said if I

:28:02. > :28:10.take this like a practice setting, I can do some ridiculous things in

:28:10. > :28:14.the rounds! Yes, I was trying to be treated like a practice, because

:28:14. > :28:17.our perform well in practice, I execute and practice will when

:28:17. > :28:22.there is no pressure, and if I can think of everything like a practice,

:28:22. > :28:28.I can relieve all the pressure. you have got the gold, what does it

:28:28. > :28:34.mean to you? What did you say? does it mean to you? It means

:28:34. > :28:39.everything, it is a dream come true. The USA hasn't had a gold since

:28:39. > :28:49.1996, so fast to finally have the gold brought back to the US is a

:28:49. > :29:18.

:29:18. > :29:22.blessing, it is phenomenal. Well contesting her third consecutive

:29:22. > :29:27.200 metres final, it was silver and silver on the previous two Olympics,

:29:27. > :29:36.but it was a big gold medal and a big smile from the American. She

:29:36. > :29:40.Allyson Felix has a stash of the world championships, but now you

:29:40. > :29:47.have the most coveted gold of all. How did you feel doing a lap of

:29:47. > :29:52.honour? He has been a long time coming. It is over joining. I am

:29:52. > :29:59.delighted to share this with some people here. For who we he's here?

:29:59. > :30:04.My dad, my mother, my aunts, my boyfriend, everybody. There was

:30:04. > :30:09.such determination on your face. was all about getting it done, and

:30:09. > :30:13.I just wanted to execute and not give up. When will it sink in that

:30:14. > :30:19.she won the Olympic champion? time tonight, maybe. I don't know.

:30:19. > :30:22.-- that you are the Olympic champion. Plenty to come this

:30:22. > :30:26.evening. Highlights of the women's hockey semi-finals, but before we

:30:26. > :30:31.leave, let's reflect on what happened. A good night to be an

:30:31. > :30:36.American. Yes, a good night for the Americans. Not a great Olympics in

:30:36. > :30:42.terms of the Chinese killing us in the table overall, so athletics is

:30:42. > :30:47.one of the areas where we look to pick up medals. This brings have

:30:47. > :30:52.been great for us and last Olympics not very good, this time we didn't

:30:52. > :30:58.even have a finalist in the 400 metres, so it was great to see the

:30:58. > :31:04.204 hundred. And then the hurdles for the first time since 1996. Then

:31:04. > :31:09.de Loach came in, surprising bronze medal, so it a great night.

:31:10. > :31:15.Americans won't have seen that life, so a nice evening entertainment

:31:15. > :31:20.ahead for them. Lawrence Clarke, the best performance since you at

:31:20. > :31:26.Atlanta when you came for. If not out of the blue, at least you would

:31:26. > :31:32.say that he's above expectation. Getting into the final was above

:31:32. > :31:37.expectation. 13.31. He was ecstatic. And he took it like it was his

:31:37. > :31:40.final race of the championships, so to go into the final and then top

:31:40. > :31:45.your own race, he was full of confidence and did not make any

:31:45. > :31:49.mistakes, and I think he deserved his place. 4th is a surprise, but

:31:49. > :31:56.he will be happy with that. It is another platform for him to move on

:31:57. > :32:01.from. He was just like you with that leaning in at the end. Thanks,

:32:02. > :32:09.coach. It has been a night for important digging at the end of the

:32:09. > :32:15.line, like Laura Weightman. One British athlete also delighted --

:32:15. > :32:20.there another has been upset. Shara Proctor. Didn't seem to quite click

:32:20. > :32:24.for you today after their good qualification. I came out here and

:32:24. > :32:31.I was struggling on the runway, to be honest and I couldn't get it

:32:31. > :32:37.right. It's a learning experience. I came out here and tried my best.

:32:37. > :32:40.I guess I am satisfied. frustrating because you were in the

:32:40. > :32:45.top eight and you would get the three more John sped just overtaken

:32:45. > :32:51.at the last. Like I said, it is anybody's game and it just wasn't

:32:51. > :32:58.mine tonight. Good luck to all of the ladies. One is the biggest

:32:58. > :33:02.thing you have learnt? -- what is the biggest thing? Do not get too

:33:02. > :33:07.confident at all comfortable. Do not lose focus, and guided it lose

:33:07. > :33:13.focus. After my first couple of jumps I got frustrated. I guess

:33:13. > :33:19.that was my biggest problem. Next time I know not to lose focus and

:33:19. > :33:26.just keep my eye on the prize. banks for talking to us. From Super

:33:26. > :33:31.Saturday to a weary Wednesday -- thanks for talking to us. How close

:33:31. > :33:35.are we going to get the seven or eight medal target, realistically?

:33:35. > :33:40.Time is running out. I think we have opportunities in the relays.

:33:40. > :33:44.One person we have not mentioned his Mo Farah. People did not get a

:33:45. > :33:50.chance to see his heat in the 5,000 metres and he qualified in third,

:33:50. > :33:55.but you would not say he looked like a winner, nailed on.

:33:55. > :34:00.cannot criticise someone who has just won that amazing 10,000 metres

:34:00. > :34:05.race. He has had a lot to contend with, taking that into and then

:34:05. > :34:14.concentrating on the 5,000. It is a tall order, but if anyone can do it,

:34:14. > :34:20.Mo Farah can. Let's keep our fingers crossed. There is extra

:34:20. > :34:26.incentive for him, if nothing else. Lisa Dobriskey? Steve Cram was very

:34:26. > :34:31.impressed and said she looked very, easy indeed. He said he did not

:34:31. > :34:35.want to put the pressure on, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

:34:35. > :34:41.million of you watched the hundred metres at the weekend and it is

:34:41. > :34:51.Usain Bolt again, the sequel, Usain Bolt against Blake. And the winner

:34:51. > :34:54.

:34:54. > :35:01.is? Usain Bolt. These early? Yes. don't do predictions. You want a

:35:01. > :35:08.thought? I think that the Jamaicans have a good chance of sweeping and

:35:08. > :35:13.taking all three medals. OK. Usain Bolt. He looks great. He really

:35:13. > :35:21.does. You will all be watching. Bolton against Blake. Why would you

:35:21. > :35:26.Usain Bolt against Blake, why would you not be watching? A beautiful

:35:27. > :35:32.picture as we hand back to Gary in the studio. We will be back with

:35:32. > :35:37.John tomorrow night for, amongst other things, for the 200 metres

:35:37. > :35:41.line. I will stick my leg cut -- neck on the line. Usain Bolt. Let's

:35:41. > :35:45.go to the Riverbank with a hockey is taking place. The British women

:35:45. > :35:49.have reached the semi-final where they face Argentina, and we will

:35:49. > :35:59.show you that, but let's show you the other final played between the

:35:59. > :36:33.

:36:33. > :36:43.good start to set us up for a good back. That is a lovely goal between

:36:43. > :36:47.

:36:47. > :36:51.first goal of the tournament for Paumen. Seven yards out, she won't

:36:51. > :37:01.miss from there. You can see the delight not only on her face, but

:37:01. > :37:10.

:37:10. > :37:20.second one. The New Zealand player is down. The crowd has gone very

:37:20. > :37:34.

:37:34. > :37:39.quiet. They have just realised what say out of the black, the

:37:39. > :37:42.goalkeeper had advanced and Forgesson beat her on the near post.

:37:42. > :37:48.Joyce Sombroek got her angles horribly wrong. You may be thought

:37:48. > :37:58.there would be good reflection. -- she may be thought. Paumen is

:37:58. > :38:03.

:38:03. > :38:07.flicker and she has not been on form this tournament, but she comes

:38:07. > :38:17.into the pressure of the semi-final and puts two in the net and keeps

:38:17. > :38:50.

:38:50. > :38:54.take Holland to another final. And great advert for the game of hockey.

:38:54. > :39:01.3-1 in the penalty competition after a 2-2 draw. Well done,

:39:02. > :39:05.Holland. Commiserations, New I quite like the style of penalty

:39:05. > :39:15.shoot-out. The Netherlands through to the final, but who would they

:39:15. > :39:15.

:39:15. > :39:22.play, Argentina or Great Britain? Britain on the left and Argentina

:39:22. > :39:25.on the right. It does promise to be a great game today. Both teams will

:39:25. > :39:35.be honest enough to say that they have not really played this

:39:35. > :39:35.

:39:35. > :40:25.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:40:25. > :40:29.tournament to the level that they now, Barrioneuvo, but this is her

:40:29. > :40:39.trademark. Cullen is not slow into the circle and I think the ball has

:40:39. > :40:39.

:40:39. > :41:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:41:41. > :41:45.gone through the smallest gap sliding on her knees. If she did

:41:45. > :41:55.not take the ball cleanly it would be a penalty corner and possibly a

:41:55. > :42:04.

:42:04. > :42:09.she is capable of doing and that is why she is a marked Lady as far as

:42:09. > :42:19.Argentina are concerned. Was she being pushed? Well, she still

:42:19. > :42:37.

:42:37. > :42:45.the end. Rebecchi is the scorer. There will be a referral, and I

:42:45. > :42:52.don't know entirely what happened. That was obstruction. It is too

:42:52. > :43:00.late and it is outside. You can only use of video referral for an

:43:00. > :43:06.incident inside the 23 metres. They are saying that they felt the ball

:43:06. > :43:11.went out to play down the side. it went into the net I don't really

:43:11. > :43:21.understand. As she is falling to the ground she moves around with

:43:21. > :43:45.

:43:45. > :43:55.the stick and place it on the approach, and I'm sure the coach

:43:55. > :43:57.

:43:57. > :44:05.was looking for that. But this has got to be made to count. Twigg put

:44:05. > :44:15.in the ball. Scrambling defence, but the ball lands on a barrier and

:44:15. > :44:20.

:44:20. > :44:30.wave their's fort. -- Marion quickly, and Rodriguez Perez, as we

:44:30. > :44:30.

:44:30. > :46:06.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:46:06. > :46:12.so, the effort is clear and the Britain would like to see on that

:46:12. > :46:16.ball. It is very rare that Richardson do something like that.

:46:16. > :46:26.Great Britain have had a lot of possession. A great deal of

:46:26. > :46:50.

:46:50. > :46:58.endeavour, it hasn't produced for minutes remaining. What a fantastic

:46:58. > :47:08.ball by it Richardson. Alex Danson, on her knees, reverses the

:47:08. > :47:08.

:47:08. > :47:50.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:47:50. > :48:00.deflection, it has given Great waiting on the edge of the circle.

:48:00. > :48:32.

:48:32. > :48:39.through to the final. The two coaches congratulate each other,

:48:39. > :48:49.and the team are delighted. Once again, Great Britain half forlorn.

:48:49. > :48:49.

:48:49. > :48:59.Look around the pitch. There are players sharing a to digestion --

:48:59. > :49:07.

:49:07. > :49:11.I can imagine how you must be feeling. First of all, I have to

:49:11. > :49:17.say that crowd have been incredible, they don't want you to leave. What

:49:17. > :49:22.happened tonight? We just went out and went for the win, we knew what

:49:22. > :49:27.we had to do, we worked so hard for those 70 minutes it wasn't quite

:49:27. > :49:31.there. You have to get off to a really strong start, you knew all

:49:31. > :49:37.about Argentina, but it didn't happen. It didn't, we conceded that

:49:37. > :49:41.early corner, it was an uphill battle. We were never going to give

:49:41. > :49:47.in, Alex's goal came a bit too late, there wasn't enough time to build

:49:47. > :49:51.momentum. It was a brilliant second half performance, so different from

:49:51. > :49:58.the first, you couldn't convert the chances. When Alex corded did you

:49:58. > :50:02.think, we could be in this? through the game, I believed we

:50:02. > :50:08.were going to win it and we would be in that gold medal match. You

:50:08. > :50:13.can't ever going to a match not believing you're going to win.

:50:14. > :50:17.Unfortunately, the goal came a bit too late. That defeat against China,

:50:17. > :50:23.to disrupt the momentum? EVA built up such a good run with the first

:50:23. > :50:27.wins. We knew every game would be difficult, and we got the defeat,

:50:27. > :50:31.but I don't think it disrupted us, we were focusing on each game at a

:50:31. > :50:35.time, we knew Argentina were going to come out hard. It just wasn't

:50:35. > :50:40.enough. We understand how disappointed you are, but you still

:50:40. > :50:50.have a chance of an Olympic medal. Many congratulations and your

:50:50. > :50:53.

:50:53. > :51:03.still get a bronze medal, that play-off is on Friday against New

:51:03. > :51:06.

:51:06. > :51:11.Such has been the success of Team GB's cyclists, but they would be

:51:11. > :51:19.7th in the middle table if they were a country. Joining us now is

:51:19. > :51:29.the mastermind behind a triumph, Dave Brailsford. That is quite an

:51:29. > :51:29.

:51:29. > :51:35.astonishing statistic, isn't it? it is. Certainly from the 18 medals

:51:35. > :51:39.available, and the 10 levels in the colour drone, -- Forgesson, we have

:51:39. > :51:45.nine. We would have liked to have got a medal in all of them.

:51:45. > :51:50.crowd did you proud? Unbelievably proud. The people in my position,

:51:50. > :51:55.the coaches and the backroom staff were there to support, it is the

:51:55. > :51:58.riders to have to ride, they have to be the best they can be. Every

:51:58. > :52:02.single wider that stepped up performed to the best of their

:52:02. > :52:08.ability, they broke world record after world record, that is a

:52:08. > :52:12.credit to them. You have been in charge, meticulous preparation. How

:52:12. > :52:16.have Britain been successful? It is an obvious question to ask, they

:52:16. > :52:23.have been so dominant even though they changed the rules to try and

:52:23. > :52:28.make you less dominant! I think it is down to good planning, we know

:52:28. > :52:32.that down to track cycling, the Olympics is the pinnacle. Four

:52:32. > :52:38.years is a long time to try and sustain the same intensity, the

:52:38. > :52:43.same level of performance. So we have deliberately come down off an

:52:43. > :52:51.Olympics and built back up for the next Olympics, to peak for the five

:52:51. > :52:59.days that really matter. Does it please your annoy you that some

:52:59. > :53:02.people are whining? Take the French, for example. It is good to have a

:53:02. > :53:07.bit of banter with the French, they were talking about motors and

:53:07. > :53:11.springs in the wheels, we told them that they were relieved round, they

:53:11. > :53:15.took it on board and printed it. It is always nice to have a bit of

:53:15. > :53:21.banter, but ultimately you are focused on how we can be the best

:53:21. > :53:27.we can be. A word on two he will probably not be at the next

:53:27. > :53:32.Olympics, Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton. It has been

:53:32. > :53:39.massive, Dickie, I remember when she one her first world title in La

:53:39. > :53:43.-- at Vicky. Track cycling wasn't really on the radar, we were

:53:43. > :53:47.working our way up, and she really did blaze a trail, she worked so

:53:47. > :53:53.hard, she was so dedicated. What she did for the mile track cycling

:53:53. > :53:57.has been enormous. To come away from the file home games, knowing

:53:57. > :54:01.it would be the last race, and to walk away with a gold and a silver

:54:01. > :54:08.medal is nothing short of remarkable. Chris, what can you say

:54:08. > :54:14.about him? He is not her serve for nothing. This was amazing. We all

:54:14. > :54:19.thought, he is in trouble. At this point, it looked as if the German

:54:20. > :54:24.was coming round, but he timed it perfectly. He turned on the turbo

:54:25. > :54:29.and when he does that, no one can live with him. It was more exciting,

:54:29. > :54:35.because it looked in doubt and he came again. It was the perfect

:54:35. > :54:43.finish. You couldn't have scripted it, that last session in the

:54:43. > :54:49.Forgesson, three gold medals, three fantastic champions,... Jason Kenny

:54:49. > :54:53.as well. I have to ask you about your future, or you go to stick

:54:53. > :54:57.with it or go to the Tour de France team? I have to be careful, the one

:54:57. > :55:03.thing I know about his cycling, what I have done is what I know

:55:03. > :55:09.about. Ultimately, I will be staying with cycling and I will

:55:09. > :55:13.commit my future, hopefully to Rio, continuing our Tour de France

:55:14. > :55:18.ambitions in professional cycling, that is what I know. You wouldn't

:55:18. > :55:22.be tempted by something like perhaps football, where the

:55:23. > :55:26.organisation has not been so good? It is interesting to look at.

:55:26. > :55:32.you think you could make a difference in something like

:55:32. > :55:36.football? Every we can learn, and what we do have is we have a

:55:36. > :55:40.philosophy, if you take cycling out of it, it was about getting people

:55:40. > :55:44.to be the best they can be. To stop and think about that, really think

:55:44. > :55:48.about how you get the best out of somebody, how can you guarantee

:55:48. > :55:53.that on the big stage, somebody will be the best they can be, we

:55:53. > :55:58.thought long and hard about that and applied it to cycling. I think

:55:58. > :56:05.the model we have come up with we can apply to anything, best lawyer,

:56:05. > :56:10.best dentist. So I think there is a possibly there. But as I say, I

:56:10. > :56:14.know cycling. You know it really well. It is just a phenomenal

:56:14. > :56:19.effort, and overall, it must be great to have everybody cheering

:56:19. > :56:26.you have everybody so happy, degenerate that kind of mood in the

:56:26. > :56:32.nation. I think you have hit the nail on the head. To be honest, it

:56:32. > :56:36.feels as if we are run a theme-park. It is like a sports theme park and

:56:36. > :56:41.the characters are working -- walking around in sports kit. It is

:56:41. > :56:45.an incredible atmosphere, and we played our little part in that. It

:56:45. > :56:50.seems to me that everyone is being more polite, smiling and saying

:56:50. > :56:57.hello to one another. The impact of this seems to be having is

:56:57. > :57:00.fantastic. To be a small part of it is wonderful. The atmosphere was

:57:00. > :57:05.unbelievable in the Velodrome. would think we knew where we were

:57:05. > :57:10.in there, this was going to be an experience we would never forget,

:57:10. > :57:14.and it was a unique experience for all of us. You really want to

:57:15. > :57:20.perform to your ability within that, the two things that caught my

:57:20. > :57:25.imagination here have been the volunteers, their demeanour and

:57:25. > :57:33.where they have kept smiling, the crowds at this Olympic Games, I

:57:33. > :57:37.have never seen anything like this. Thank you. You have taken us to the

:57:37. > :57:43.summit. We are heading off to BBC Two. Don't forget, we are back

:57:43. > :57:48.after the news with Olympics Tonight. I will be back tomorrow

:57:48. > :57:58.with the highlights of the men's 200 metres. Bolt against Blake! See

:57:58. > :57:58.

:57:58. > :58:39.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds
