:00:53. > :00:57.Good afternoon. Welcome to day 13 of the games, a day that sees 23

:00:57. > :01:02.gold medals up for grabs as plenty of sports which the business end of

:01:02. > :01:06.the competition. We will follow all the big stories here on BBC One,

:01:06. > :01:11.including BMX bikes crashing, horses dancing and 25 Women going

:01:11. > :01:16.for a dip in Hyde Park. That is the Olympic Games. Settle down for a

:01:16. > :01:20.busy few hours. Disappointment at the equestrian

:01:20. > :01:25.yesterday, but high hopes of another dressage gold in the

:01:25. > :01:29.individual event today. Britain's trio go from 3:20pm.

:01:29. > :01:36.Liam Phillips has recovered from a broken collarbone to make it to

:01:36. > :01:39.London. Can he follow Shanaze Reade into the BMX semi-finals?

:01:39. > :01:44.In three hours' time, Nicola Adams could become the first woman ever

:01:44. > :01:51.to be crowned an Olympic boxing champion, but only if she can

:01:51. > :01:55.overcome Ren Cancan of China. And it could be another golden day

:01:55. > :02:00.for Britain's sailors, although the weather is looking a bit too good

:02:00. > :02:04.at Weymouth at the moment. So it is disappointing that there

:02:04. > :02:07.is no sailing going on at Weymouth, but you only have to look behind me

:02:07. > :02:11.to realise that thousands of people here on the Olympic Park don't mind

:02:11. > :02:15.too much about the Sun being out. It is a wonderful day to celebrate

:02:15. > :02:19.a 13 of these Olympic Games. But before the lack of action on the

:02:19. > :02:24.water, let's catch up with what happened in the water in one of the

:02:24. > :02:28.most punishing Olympic disciplines, the gruelling 10k open-water swim.

:02:28. > :02:32.These are live shots off the spot that made his debut in Beijing.

:02:32. > :02:37.Keri-Anne Payne has had to wait for her big moment. She was the first

:02:37. > :02:41.British athlete to qualify for these games. She is now finally

:02:41. > :02:46.going for gold and go one better than the silver she managed in

:02:46. > :02:50.Beijing four years ago. The climax of the women's 10k open-water

:02:50. > :02:54.swimming will be live on BBC Two. We will join it for the closing

:02:54. > :02:59.stages. These are the live shots, and Keri-Anne Payne is still in

:02:59. > :03:04.with a chance of picking up victory. At the moment, the Hungarian is

:03:04. > :03:11.leading. Look out for the No. 15 for Keri-Anne Payne. Blue cap.

:03:11. > :03:16.Fingers crossed, she can make it to the front. She likes to lead in

:03:16. > :03:23.these races. She is an experienced swimmer. She is taking a break from

:03:23. > :03:29.a wedding to swim here, so it is important.

:03:29. > :03:32.Now, let's go to the south coast and the men's gold medal race in

:03:32. > :03:36.sailing's 470 class. Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell are guaranteed

:03:36. > :03:41.silver, but a convincing victory over Australia today, and that

:03:41. > :03:45.medal becomes gold. But to do that, they need to get on the water. So

:03:45. > :03:49.far today, that has proved problematic. Shirley Robinson is

:03:49. > :03:55.there for us. Can you explain the problem? Normally, we love it when

:03:55. > :04:00.the sun is out in this country. spectators are here, but as you say,

:04:00. > :04:06.no sailors yet. The sailing in Weymouth has been fantastic. We

:04:06. > :04:12.have had 12 days of great breeze and fantastic conditions. Today,

:04:12. > :04:16.light winds. Just not stable enough to set a course. I did speak to the

:04:16. > :04:21.GB meteorologist, and she is confident that by about 3:30pm,

:04:21. > :04:25.things will be good enough to send the sailors out and hopefully get

:04:25. > :04:30.that gold medal for GB. We are getting some wonderful shots of the

:04:30. > :04:34.crowds, young and old with a Union flags. 20th French flags as well.

:04:34. > :04:40.It's a shame they have not had the chance to see any sailing. How have

:04:40. > :04:44.they worked out that there is not enough wind? Five or six knots

:04:44. > :04:49.means that it is even for the course and fair for everybody.

:04:49. > :04:56.Earlier, we were out and it was classy, like a millpond. Today it

:04:56. > :05:02.looks better. I am optimistic that it will happen later. But the

:05:02. > :05:08.sailors are waiting and the tension is building. For those crowds and

:05:08. > :05:14.our viewers, once the action gets going, what can we expect from the

:05:14. > :05:19.sailing today? For the British duo, they have nothing to lose. They are

:05:19. > :05:23.guaranteed silver. When you speak to them, they are so confident. I

:05:23. > :05:28.asked what the strategy was, and they said attack, attack, attack.

:05:28. > :05:32.They will be going for the Aussies. The Aussies are favourites for this

:05:32. > :05:37.event. They are world champions, but they are on the back foot. They

:05:37. > :05:42.are used to be winning by miles, and now they will be in a street

:05:42. > :05:46.fight. There will be lots of Aussie flags and Union Jacks. We look

:05:46. > :05:50.forward to the big battle. Only a couple of days of sailing left. The

:05:50. > :05:54.Olympic Park is bouncing every day because of the success of Britain

:05:54. > :05:58.in the Games. How has it been down there? What is the feeling about

:05:58. > :06:04.how our sailors have performed? Maurer, we are also guaranteed a

:06:04. > :06:10.silver medal in the 470 women, and they are on equal points with the

:06:10. > :06:14.Kiwis for that gold medal. All in all, that will be five medals. If

:06:14. > :06:20.we don't pull it off today, we could be pulling it off tomorrow.

:06:20. > :06:25.There is a lot to look forward to. We will try and send thousands over

:06:25. > :06:29.to the red button to join you for the start of this life. So you

:06:29. > :06:38.expect there to be some racing later? Don't quote me on that, but

:06:38. > :06:42.you have time for it could have tea. -- a cup of tea. At least you will

:06:42. > :06:47.get a suntan if nothing else. So as you saw, lovely weather down

:06:47. > :06:51.there and here. Haven't we seen fantastic scenes at these -- these

:06:51. > :06:54.games at Greenwich? It has been one of the places to be if you want to

:06:54. > :07:04.see successful British action, despite a disappointing day

:07:04. > :07:04.

:07:04. > :08:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:08:00. > :08:09.And in and it is going to be a Nick Skelton, at his very best. It

:08:09. > :08:14.is a wait and see game now. This could be the first gold since 1952!

:08:14. > :08:20.And Britain has got gold. Will they be here to see Britain win their

:08:21. > :08:30.first ever dressage medal? This is gold about to happen. She has made

:08:31. > :08:32.

:08:32. > :08:37.It has been good, and Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes is down there as

:08:37. > :08:41.everything comes to an end. Before we talk about today, let's talk

:08:41. > :08:46.about yesterday. Nick Skelton, just as we thought he had done it, he

:08:46. > :08:51.knocked over that fence, which was disappointing. Where were you

:08:51. > :08:56.watching? I was watching down here, where the athletes get interviewed.

:08:56. > :09:01.I get -- kept getting troubled by all the other broadcasters. My arms

:09:01. > :09:04.would be in the air whenever anything happened. He was the 6-1

:09:05. > :09:14.favourite at the start of the competition to win their individual

:09:15. > :09:15.

:09:15. > :09:18.a muddle. Then # God save our We really thought he was going to

:09:18. > :09:23.win the gold medal, so when it Skelton had that fence down,

:09:23. > :09:26.everyone was like, what? He was so upset. He was crying when he won

:09:26. > :09:31.the gold and he cried when he missed out on the individual. He

:09:31. > :09:38.was very close this year, but Nick Skelton is still a marvel. He had a

:09:38. > :09:42.hip replaced a couple of years ago. He has broken his neck before. Kind

:09:43. > :09:47.of a walking marvel. To be out there riding at his age and doing

:09:47. > :09:52.this well is amazing. The they are all superheroes. What amazing games

:09:52. > :09:59.at Greenwich. You have had a plum job. Talking of superheroes, the

:09:59. > :10:04.American dressage rider Steffan Peters, who is riding behind me, he

:10:04. > :10:08.is riding to Avatar music, or was. Lots of fun music. I was talking

:10:08. > :10:13.earlier to Matt Baker and I was not allowed to say what sort of music

:10:13. > :10:18.we have. It said a strict embargo until 12:30pm. But now I can tell

:10:18. > :10:23.you we have had Black Eyed Peas, Phil Collins, Avatar. But to come,

:10:23. > :10:31.we have some very patriotic music. We have lots of Gustav Holst and

:10:31. > :10:34.escape to victory and Big Ben Charlotte Dujardin is the hot

:10:34. > :10:40.favourite for Britain, part of the gold medal-winning team for the

:10:40. > :10:45.dressage a couple of days ago. She will be trying to nail it at 3:50pm

:10:45. > :10:50.in Greenwich. In football terminology, the Lionel Messi of a

:10:51. > :10:57.horse world is a stunning horse, the horse belonging to Charlotte

:10:57. > :11:00.Dujardin. She is lucky to have that horse. This level is like the

:11:00. > :11:04.Premier League of dressage. She has only been riding at this level for

:11:04. > :11:12.less than two years, so for her to be at an Olympic Games at the age

:11:12. > :11:18.of 26, which is pretty young in a horse turns, is pretty great. The

:11:18. > :11:23.two of them were part of Britain's gold medal-winning team in the

:11:23. > :11:26.Europeans. Lionel Messi has obviously been at the top for a

:11:26. > :11:31.long time, but Charlotte Dujardin has only been doing this for less

:11:31. > :11:34.than two years. Before we let you go, another big crowd there.

:11:34. > :11:39.Obviously plenty of British interest. The big question is, what

:11:39. > :11:44.is the reason for choosing your own music and doing this to music?

:11:44. > :11:48.is called the Grand Prix freestyle. Dressage has three different

:11:48. > :11:54.disciplines. You have the Grand Prix, the first part of the team

:11:54. > :12:00.test. Then you have the Grand Prix special, which is more difficult

:12:00. > :12:04.movements. Then you have the Grand Prix freestyle, when you can do

:12:04. > :12:08.what you want. They have six minutes to impress the judges. They

:12:08. > :12:13.are not just looking for technical ability, but also artistic

:12:13. > :12:18.impression. So it is important that they wow them with some good music.

:12:18. > :12:22.Traditionally, some of the dressage to music was a bit peaky blokey. My

:12:22. > :12:28.manager thought it would not be very good. But we had some Black

:12:28. > :12:32.Eyed Peas, and everyone was like, wow! Daegu of very good marks for

:12:32. > :12:37.their artistic impression. People make a living out of making music

:12:37. > :12:41.for dressage riders, so this is a big competition. It has been packed

:12:41. > :12:46.every day, but we probably have the most avid out today, because this

:12:46. > :12:50.is the favourite dressage competition for the spectators.

:12:50. > :12:57.Finally, what time can we expect the British riders out? Laura

:12:57. > :13:01.Bechtolsheimer does at 3:20pm. Car Hester is not far behind. He goes

:13:01. > :13:05.at 3:30pm and then Charlotte Dujardin is the last to go at

:13:05. > :13:10.3:50pm. We look forward to hearing the music and seeing the routines.

:13:10. > :13:14.We will bring you that live on BBC One. Now we returned to the

:13:14. > :13:18.Serpentine in central London. It is a stunningly beautiful location for

:13:18. > :13:21.a stunningly Britain event. 25 swimmers battling the water and

:13:21. > :13:31.each other to be the first of the finish line. Keri-Anne Payne is

:13:31. > :13:44.

:13:44. > :13:51.the black hat. Anderson is closer to us from the USA. Keri-Anne Payne

:13:51. > :14:00.is in fourth position. Risztov has led all the way through. Will she

:14:00. > :14:04.get the gold? Risztov of Hungary gets it. Goodness me, the Proms has

:14:04. > :14:12.gone to grow mouldy of Italy. Keri- Anne was just behind in fourth

:14:12. > :14:18.position. -- the bronze went to go Malby of Hungary. So close, but the

:14:18. > :14:26.gold, deservedly, Eva Risztov of Hungary almost led from the gun.

:14:26. > :14:34.She is out already. How has she done that after so much effort? She

:14:34. > :14:41.led all the way. I don't know how she can walk, Andy. Congratulations

:14:41. > :14:45.to Risztov from Hungary. It is an example of how fit she is to hop

:14:45. > :14:48.straight out of water and hardly look out of breath. We have

:14:49. > :14:51.swimmers come out of the water and be wheeled away in wheelchairs.

:14:51. > :14:56.Keri-Anne Payne will be disappointed with fourth place. We

:14:56. > :14:59.know she picked up silver in Beijing four years ago. She was

:14:59. > :15:03.desperately hoping to improve on that and pick up the gold medal

:15:03. > :15:09.here. She has been an amazing open- water swimmer for the past few

:15:09. > :15:13.years. It is her specialist discipline. After 10 kilometres,

:15:13. > :15:23.Keri-Anne Payne was four seconds away from the winner. But that is

:15:23. > :15:25.

:15:25. > :15:28.the way it goes. Well done for And well done to the crowds for

:15:28. > :15:32.turning up in Hyde Park. Yes, you can get tickets to be at the

:15:33. > :15:37.Olympic Park, but when events are free and people can turn up for the

:15:37. > :15:40.triathlon, road racing, wonderful crowds are there. Now, today at

:15:40. > :15:45.Wembley Arena, it is the qualifying stages in the women's all-round

:15:46. > :15:48.rhythmic gymnastics. Britain's Frankie Jones is desperate for home

:15:49. > :15:58.support to inspire her to something special. We will be on the road to

:15:59. > :15:59.

:15:59. > :16:03.Wembley shortly. First, here is how All performances take place on the

:16:03. > :16:10.floor, a 30 metre square carpet laid over a sprung wooden base.

:16:10. > :16:20.There are four pieces of apparatus used. Hooper, a bore, club and

:16:20. > :16:33.

:16:33. > :16:38.There are two distinct competitions, individual and group. 24 gymnasts

:16:38. > :16:42.perform four routines, one with each other apparatus. The top 10

:16:42. > :16:51.progress to the all-around final. Each individual routine lasts a

:16:51. > :16:58.maximum of 90 seconds. 12 groups of five gymnasts perform two routines

:16:58. > :17:03.and the top eight progress to the final. Routines last a maximum of

:17:03. > :17:09.2.5 minutes. For the first routine all groups use just one piece of

:17:09. > :17:13.apparatus and in the second they use a combination of two. Group

:17:13. > :17:18.exercises must show exchanges of apparatus between the gymnasts as

:17:18. > :17:28.well as intricate formations. If you would like to get involved in

:17:28. > :17:32.Olympic sports coat to the website. We said we had a mix of sport this

:17:32. > :17:38.afternoon. Before long we are back to Greenwich for the dressage and

:17:38. > :17:44.we have got BMX action as well. Now it is time to see Frankie Jones.

:17:44. > :17:54.She needs to get into the top 10 today to go through to the final.

:17:54. > :17:57.

:17:57. > :18:07.Let's join Mitch Fenner and to the floor in the form of Frankie

:18:07. > :18:12.

:18:13. > :18:22.Jones. We were not represented in Beijing, but here is Frankie Jones

:18:23. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :19:46.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:19:46. > :19:54.in London. A fabulous piece of great start for a frank people stop

:19:54. > :20:00.two words, graceful and controlled. The audience are full of Union

:20:00. > :20:06.Jacks and they are not disappointed with that. That was a lovely start,

:20:06. > :20:10.probably her favourite apparatus. She negotiated it well. Not quite

:20:10. > :20:19.some of the huge difficulty we have seen from some of the more

:20:19. > :20:23.experienced competitors, but that was a really good performance.

:20:23. > :20:27.4th all-around in the 2010 Commonwealth and a silver medallist

:20:27. > :20:37.with hopes. She knows how to produce a performance under

:20:37. > :20:42.

:20:42. > :20:47.pressure. Francesca Jones trains at Birmingham rhythmic gymnastics club.

:20:47. > :20:52.She has been a very committed gymnast over the years. Three years

:20:52. > :20:59.she worked full-time in centralised training. Really pushing herself

:20:59. > :21:08.here. It is a good score, it is difficulty that pulls her down. She

:21:08. > :21:15.It left her 4th at that stage and she eventually finished 21st and

:21:15. > :21:22.the aim is to be in the top 10. There was a partisan British crowd

:21:22. > :21:27.cheering -- cheering her on. Next she picked up a silver medal in

:21:28. > :21:37.this in 2010, so would it be enough to send her through? This is what

:21:38. > :21:42.

:21:42. > :21:48.she did that on her first performance. Here is an apparatus

:21:48. > :21:56.that she got silver in the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Dare we

:21:56. > :22:02.hope for a higher score? We dare. I asked her before what was her best

:22:02. > :22:12.apparatus and she said this was the one she found the hardest. She has

:22:12. > :22:38.

:22:38. > :22:48.confidence is showing through in this performance. Keep it up,

:22:48. > :23:24.

:23:24. > :23:28.was a bit strange what the whistle. It is not a whistle, more a

:23:29. > :23:34.dramatic couture, indicating the end of the routine, but the music

:23:34. > :23:40.kept going. It is unusual because the music is very well timed and

:23:40. > :23:45.rehearsed and practice. Whether that was a slight problem or a

:23:45. > :23:51.technical hitch with the machines, it was a very clean, good

:23:51. > :23:58.performance. A very confident performance. She is building in

:23:58. > :24:04.confidence, you were right. She has certainly done herself and the

:24:04. > :24:10.sport very proud so far. Eight top 10 placing is a bit beyond her, but

:24:10. > :24:16.she will be looking to post two very good scores. It is the

:24:16. > :24:22.difficulty that will be a problem for her. Really good artistry and

:24:22. > :24:32.executions caused. She has achieved what she has set out to do,

:24:32. > :24:33.

:24:33. > :24:38.Sitting 11th after those routines and doing herself proud. If you

:24:38. > :24:45.would like to follow that, you can press the red button. She has got a

:24:45. > :24:53.good array of teddy bears as well. Time to talk taekwondo. If it is

:24:53. > :24:57.new to you, this is what you need to know. The competition is divided

:24:57. > :25:03.into four weight categories for women and four men. Each division

:25:03. > :25:07.has 16 athletes who are competing for gold. Each competition date

:25:07. > :25:11.will feature one male and one female category. It is a straight

:25:11. > :25:18.knockout tournament with a repechage for bronze medal places.

:25:18. > :25:22.The final contest will decide who wins gold and who wins the silver.

:25:22. > :25:27.One point is scored by a powerful, accurate punch to the torso,

:25:27. > :25:32.although punching to the face is forbidden. One point is scored by a

:25:33. > :25:38.kick to the torso. The impact has to be with the ft below the ankle.

:25:38. > :25:45.Technical excellence is rewarded. If the athlete uses a continuous

:25:45. > :25:49.rotating movement, they will be awarded two points. Speed, timing

:25:49. > :25:58.and flexibility are required for head kicks. They are worth three

:25:58. > :26:05.points. The most spectacular are head kicks involving a continuous

:26:05. > :26:13.pain. They are worth four points. If you would like to get involved

:26:13. > :26:18.in Olympic sports, go to the website. If you do not fancy

:26:18. > :26:22.getting involved, perhaps this will inspire year. This was the

:26:22. > :26:29.preliminary round and competing for Great Britain was Jade Jones for

:26:29. > :26:34.Wales. She was victorious taking on her Serbian opponent. You can see

:26:34. > :26:39.the score on the screen, 15-1. Building up to this tournament she

:26:39. > :26:48.has had help from local businesses in a full-length in Wales so she

:26:48. > :26:58.could carry on competing. Here she is through to the quarter-finals.

:26:58. > :26:58.

:26:58. > :27:08.But who would she face? In the Blue is Croatia's sportswoman of the

:27:08. > :27:32.

:27:32. > :27:39.style. Hence the quick-fire start. The centre referees have been

:27:39. > :27:46.called in, sorry the centre referee has called in the corner judges.

:27:46. > :27:54.There is a head shot scored on the board. That is for the Croatian. I

:27:54. > :28:04.think the point has gone to the Japanese athlete. That is my take

:28:04. > :28:24.

:28:24. > :28:32.on it anyway. It was the Croatian wrong way around, perhaps. We will

:28:32. > :28:37.find out. The video replay is designed for situations like this.

:28:37. > :28:47.We have got a view of it in the stadium and I am sure you will get

:28:47. > :29:22.

:29:22. > :29:32.underneath, and that is why we need the centre referee and the video

:29:32. > :30:12.

:30:12. > :30:22.the Japanese. This is an upset to the form book so far. That was a

:30:22. > :30:23.

:30:23. > :30:28.good spin from the Croatian, but she did not get the distance right.

:30:28. > :30:34.If you are new to the sport, you probably will not know they are

:30:34. > :30:40.wearing electronic body armour. If you hit the body armour, you will

:30:40. > :30:44.get one point. You have seen a couple of head shots. Those are

:30:44. > :30:54.worth three points. If you do a spin before that, it would be worth

:30:54. > :30:54.

:30:54. > :32:19.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:32:19. > :32:25.De Gracia looked as if she had grabbed one upstairs, but didn't.

:32:25. > :32:35.There was the body shot on their inside. Great head shot again from

:32:35. > :33:00.

:33:00. > :33:05.But Hamada is looking strong and composed. She will have seen the

:33:05. > :33:15.efforts of her team-mate yesterday. She performed well. Didn't really

:33:15. > :33:33.

:33:33. > :33:41.threaten the podium, but this is a differential here. Hamada looks

:33:41. > :33:51.much more powerful. That is the athlete in red, against the thin

:33:51. > :33:56.

:33:56. > :34:04.air frame of the Croatian. Hamada looks strong. I eat my words there,

:34:04. > :34:12.as Hamada leads the foot of her opponent. The young Croatian has

:34:12. > :34:22.clawed herself back into this match here. Good attempt at a head shot

:34:22. > :34:23.

:34:23. > :34:32.again from the Japanese female. That kyong-go was given by the

:34:32. > :34:36.Puerto Rican referee. Kyong-gos are a management. If you do anything

:34:36. > :34:41.that inhibits the fair process of the match, you take a kyong-go,

:34:41. > :34:48.just as both ladies take 8 point each there. Another push from the

:34:48. > :34:58.Croatian makes it nine to it. Those punishments, at the kyong-gos, can

:34:58. > :35:27.

:35:27. > :35:33.lacking for Croatian support at this event. The Japanese athlete

:35:33. > :35:43.needs five good meals a day to keep the weight on. Five meals a day.

:35:43. > :35:47.Food heaven! Probably works fairly hard to keep the weight manageable.

:35:47. > :35:52.But every so often, competitors have to work hard to keep the

:35:52. > :35:57.weight of. For her, it is the other way round. She will be training

:35:57. > :36:01.three hours a day, two hours per session. So you need at least 6000

:36:01. > :36:11.calories to sustain that effort. It is understandable. Quite enviable

:36:11. > :36:21.

:36:21. > :36:31.country's first taekwondo champion when she took the under 53 class in

:36:31. > :36:42.

:36:42. > :36:44.shot over the top restores her lead. This is of mild significance to the

:36:44. > :36:51.potential British entrance today. If Jade Jones were successful, she

:36:51. > :36:59.would meet either of these two females in her next match. She has

:36:59. > :37:05.the Serbian, Gladovic, and that is coming up in a short while. She

:37:05. > :37:15.will fight against the Serbian. But it is back to Japan and Croatia

:37:15. > :37:28.

:37:28. > :37:38.indicating that he thought it was a head shot in the flurry go exchange

:37:38. > :37:58.

:37:58. > :38:08.yesterday. The Frenchman is on the right hand side. The other is a

:38:08. > :38:11.

:38:11. > :38:21.Singaporean. They will both look at this. If that is the action that

:38:21. > :38:26.the Japanese coach has asked to review, well... You never like to

:38:26. > :38:32.be critical of a coach's efforts. They see different things than we

:38:32. > :38:38.do, but they're certainly looked to be limited or zero contact. Perhaps

:38:38. > :38:44.just touched to the back of the head. Successful. Well, I eat my

:38:44. > :38:52.words there yet again, because that has made the biggest difference.

:38:52. > :39:02.These video replays are coming to fruition here. There was the

:39:02. > :39:03.

:39:03. > :39:11.mildest of contacts to the back of the head. That will be a three

:39:11. > :39:21.point a head shot. Hamada has done just enough. Can she sustain it?

:39:21. > :39:32.

:39:32. > :39:40.Ana Zaninovic will be kicking Zaninovic. This is a three point

:39:40. > :39:50.game. A head shot would change it. Hamada staying active, and on the

:39:50. > :39:54.verge of upsetting things here. The oak, is that in the last second?

:39:54. > :40:04.Unbelievable taekwondo action. Don't look away, or you will miss

:40:04. > :40:04.

:40:04. > :40:11.it. But it is taken away by the referee. The head shot was scored,

:40:11. > :40:21.but excellent refereeing from the Puerto Rican, are holding and

:40:21. > :40:35.

:40:35. > :40:39.head shot. It was wiped away by the Centre referee. It is now 14-11. A

:40:39. > :40:43.video replay card has been used by the Japanese coach, and I am not

:40:43. > :40:48.going to criticise, because the last time he did it, he was spot on.

:40:48. > :40:53.But at this stage, because the points have been wiped away, it

:40:53. > :41:00.really is almost irrelevant. To be fair to me, he has now noticed the

:41:00. > :41:10.scoreboard. And after that frenetic exchange, the winner of the

:41:10. > :41:11.

:41:11. > :41:16.contest... Hamada of Japan. That could change things for later.

:41:16. > :41:26.There may well be another Croatian medal at the end of today, but only

:41:26. > :41:30.

:41:30. > :41:40.now if Hamada makes her way into Something of an upset there. Jade

:41:40. > :41:40.

:41:40. > :41:45.is in action at 3:30pm against Japan's Hamada on BBC Three.

:41:45. > :41:50.Jade, you can't have asked for a much better start? Yeah, the points

:41:50. > :41:59.were going really good. The plan was perfect. I didn't feel at my

:41:59. > :42:08.sharpest. I felt sharper warming up. But the tactics were perfect.

:42:08. > :42:12.Stepping it up now? Hopefully. hair, the Japanese athlete, is she

:42:12. > :42:16.the fire to your expected? I was expecting Croatia to get through,

:42:16. > :42:23.but I have studied all of them, so I will go back through the tactics

:42:23. > :42:26.again. Talk me through that home crowd when he walked out for the

:42:26. > :42:33.first time? In it was amazing. I did not expect it when I came out,

:42:33. > :42:37.it was crazy, people shouting my name. The atmosphere is amazing.

:42:37. > :42:42.Congratulations to her. That is not the only good news for British

:42:42. > :42:46.taekwondo today. This is Britain's Martin Stamper, who was also in

:42:46. > :42:52.quarter-final action this afternoon. He fights later, after another

:42:52. > :42:56.impressive victory. He struggled towards the end. He was leading at

:42:56. > :43:00.one point and then got into trouble for running away from the Mexican.

:43:00. > :43:06.But with a couple of seconds left, he makes it through. More joy from

:43:06. > :43:12.the crowd. Martin, a tense couple of rounds,

:43:12. > :43:15.but you pulled it out of the last one. Yeah. It is really hard to

:43:15. > :43:20.score on the body armour. Maybe because they are brand new and they

:43:20. > :43:24.are quite hard. I just needed to bide my time. I was doing the right

:43:24. > :43:28.things. I thought I was unlucky with a few back kicks where I

:43:28. > :43:33.thought I hit the body armour. But I was doing the right thing. I just

:43:33. > :43:39.waited, and he was the first one to crack and take a risk. Then he was

:43:39. > :43:43.open to the head. How difficult is it to stay calm when you are at an

:43:43. > :43:48.Olympic finals and your scores are not hitting in the first couple of

:43:48. > :43:53.rounds? It was tough, but me and my coaches went back and decided to

:43:53. > :44:00.stick to the plan. Like I said, he took one risk and then he was

:44:00. > :44:07.opened. Stick with your coat and interact and make sure you stay

:44:08. > :44:11.calm under pressure. Serbia rather than Peru in the next round. Yeah,

:44:11. > :44:16.the one I beat in the Europeans. But he is really good, so I have

:44:17. > :44:20.got to go back, recover, look at some videos and do my best. Some of

:44:20. > :44:27.what it means to be out here at these Games after you missed out

:44:27. > :44:33.four years ago? It is unreal. I felt like dancing. I was just

:44:33. > :44:38.buzzing. The crowd just erupted, everyone chanting your name. It

:44:38. > :44:43.might have looked a bit of a boring fight, 0-0 for two rounds, but they

:44:43. > :44:47.still kept behind and took me through to the wind.

:44:47. > :44:51.If he is as good at one dancing as he is at taekwondo, I would like to

:44:51. > :44:58.see his dancing. If you would like to see him against the Peruvian,

:44:58. > :45:01.that is at 3:45pm. Jade goes at 3:30pm. The live taekwondo will be

:45:01. > :45:06.on BBC Three. If you are just joining us, I'm afraid to say there

:45:06. > :45:10.is disappointing news for Keri-Anne Payne. She would have been so keen

:45:10. > :45:14.friend medal in the 10k open-water swimming. She came in fourth, but

:45:14. > :45:19.she was up against the best swimmers in the world. She has

:45:19. > :45:23.interrupted preparations for her wedding to swim in this. Her fiance

:45:23. > :45:28.was watching. After 10 kilometres of swimming around the Serpentine

:45:29. > :45:33.in Hyde Park, Keri-Anne Payne came in in the blue hat in fourth place.

:45:33. > :45:39.Four seconds off the lead. Let's see how she is feeling after that

:45:39. > :45:46.exertion. It did not go my way from the start,

:45:46. > :45:52.unfortunately. I tried to lead, but it just shows that they played me

:45:52. > :45:58.at my own game by leading from the front. She did such a good job. The

:45:58. > :46:04.top 25 in the world are here, so to come forth is not too bad. It was

:46:04. > :46:10.really close as well. Not quite what I wanted for the crowd and all

:46:10. > :46:14.the people who have worked so hard to get me here, but yeah. It was a

:46:14. > :46:22.terrific effort. How much were you hurting during the last lap? I was

:46:22. > :46:26.hurting for most of the swim. have always said open water is

:46:27. > :46:31.about making the right decisions at the right time. I had to go and

:46:32. > :46:36.feed, and I missed the bottle. From then, I struggled to get back. I

:46:36. > :46:41.was probably working too hard compared to how I normally take the

:46:41. > :46:47.place. I did not have enough at the end. I know you have about 50

:46:47. > :46:54.family members here. David is here to. They are so proud of you.

:46:54. > :47:03.you. The support has been fantastic. I would like to thank my coach is

:47:03. > :47:08.and all the guys. Also Ben and Simon and lead and Sarah. And my

:47:08. > :47:16.family and Dave. I would not be here without them. Is that it the

:47:16. > :47:22.EU in open-water swimming? I don't know how things will go. It will be

:47:22. > :47:32.my last one for a while. I need a break. But we will say. It is not

:47:32. > :47:34.

:47:34. > :47:37.David wants to say a word. That was so hard watching and that last bit

:47:38. > :47:44.you picked it up again and you did everything you could and we are

:47:44. > :47:48.also proud of you. Well done. Really quite emotional scenes and

:47:48. > :47:55.David Davies was the open-water swimmer who picked up a silver

:47:55. > :47:58.medal in Beijing. He tried to swim in the 1,500m and did not qualify.

:47:58. > :48:03.As far as Keri-Anne Payne is concerned now is not the time to

:48:03. > :48:08.look to the future, because making these decisions when you are so

:48:08. > :48:14.emotional is not the best thing to do. Elizabeth Simmonds says, you

:48:14. > :48:18.are a hero, well done, an incredibly tough race. Becky

:48:18. > :48:24.Adlington says, absolutely so proud of Keri-Anne Payne, I cannot

:48:24. > :48:31.believe I get to call her a friend. She is amazing, 4th in the world

:48:31. > :48:34.and such a tough event. She was quite emotional, but a strong and

:48:34. > :48:40.impressive performance from her. Let's hope it is not the last time

:48:40. > :48:46.we see her swimming. We are going live to the BMX a little bit later

:48:46. > :48:51.on and also the dressage. Right now a place on the top step of the

:48:51. > :48:55.podium and a place in the record books awaits Nicola Adams if she

:48:55. > :49:05.can overcome a current world champion and become the first ever

:49:05. > :49:16.

:49:16. > :49:21.woman to claim an Olympic boxing I am a 15 kg and two-times world

:49:21. > :49:26.medallist. I was 13 years old, I was not nervous at all. I just

:49:26. > :49:33.could not wait to get in there. all started with her coming down to

:49:33. > :49:37.the gym with me. Did you intend to take her to a boxing session?

:49:37. > :49:42.did not realise they had boxing, she just went off and did her own

:49:42. > :49:47.thing. I knew she was not going to get hurt because they have got the

:49:47. > :49:52.trainers and the coaches there and it is something for the kids to do.

:49:52. > :49:57.It is very expensive, the choices we had to make, the equipment and

:49:57. > :50:02.everything and it has not been easy. The days of boxing being an Olympic

:50:02. > :50:07.sport for men only are over. Women boxers will be able to compete at

:50:07. > :50:16.the London Olympics. His women's boxing what we want in London 2012?

:50:16. > :50:23.A woman wants to box, she should be allowed to. I was not interested in

:50:23. > :50:30.women's boxing and I did not like to see young girls get hit. I could

:50:30. > :50:36.see the determination in the girl. Within 18 months we have got five

:50:36. > :50:40.in the world's top 10 in their weight. In the 2008 European

:50:40. > :50:46.Championships we got seven medals. How do you feel about women's

:50:46. > :50:50.boxing now? I love it. She has got this amazing smile, she has got a

:50:50. > :50:55.slight frame and she does not strike you as someone you would

:50:55. > :51:00.associate with boxing. Exactly, she has got flat feet and she is not a

:51:00. > :51:04.good runner, she has got asthma. She has got sheer determination and

:51:04. > :51:12.if it had not been for boxing, she would have been a little villain.

:51:12. > :51:16.Really? Yes. There was a time when it was nearly all over for you.

:51:16. > :51:22.had a serious back injury which left me in bed for a few months,

:51:22. > :51:26.which was frustrating because I am such a get up and go person. At the

:51:26. > :51:31.time the GB selections were going on and I could not train. I went

:51:31. > :51:37.from being able to do 300 sit-ups a day to not being able to do one.

:51:37. > :51:42.Did you think, this is it? That thought crossed my mind a few times.

:51:42. > :51:47.When I started punching again, I was so slow and I was overweight

:51:47. > :51:53.and I saw everybody else on the GB team fly up and down and I was like,

:51:53. > :51:57.how am I ever going to get back to like how I was before? I was saying

:51:57. > :52:04.to the coaches, will I be ready to come back to this level? They said,

:52:04. > :52:13.yes, you can do this. She wants to become the world champion, so she

:52:13. > :52:20.works hard to do that. It is because of girls like her that it

:52:20. > :52:26.is all going right. I have been boxing for so long and I have won a

:52:26. > :52:31.lot of tournaments. The European Championships, getting gold, and

:52:31. > :52:37.silver medals at the World Championships. What would it mean

:52:37. > :52:46.to have an Olympic gold medal? would give that Olympic medal a

:52:46. > :52:51.whole shelf. What a fighter and what a day for her. It is the first

:52:51. > :52:59.ever boxer to pick up a women's gold medal. You can see her this

:52:59. > :53:06.afternoon at 4:30pm. Her nickname his baby face, but she is a super

:53:06. > :53:16.tough fighter. But also Ireland's Katie Taylor has amazed us not just

:53:16. > :53:18.

:53:18. > :53:22.with her talents, but with her considerable fan base as well.

:53:22. > :53:32.a long wait it has been it for the boxer wearing red representing

:53:32. > :53:36.Ireland, Katie Taylor. Unbelievable, I do not know if the viewers can

:53:36. > :53:46.appreciate this atmosphere, but it is blistering. It is more like a

:53:46. > :53:48.

:53:48. > :53:54.football match. This is a dream come true for me. A standing

:53:54. > :54:01.ovation for a Katie Taylor. experience, her strength, her speed

:54:01. > :54:06.is shone through in that bout. feel like I'm in Heaven just now.

:54:06. > :54:16.The improvement she has made over a short period of time is immense.

:54:16. > :54:17.

:54:17. > :54:23.Katie Taylor, absolutely superb. Who would bet against her? Big, big

:54:23. > :54:27.day for British and Irish boxing. Nicola Adams is an action at 4:30pm

:54:27. > :54:33.on BBC One and after that Katie Taylor from island steps into the

:54:33. > :54:38.ring. Let show you what is happening at the BMX area. It is

:54:38. > :54:41.next to the Velodrome which has given us some remarkable action.

:54:41. > :54:47.Today the men are in action and they are looking to make it through

:54:47. > :54:52.to their seeding round. You can see what an amazing course this is.

:54:52. > :54:58.Everything here has been built from scratch. There are just warming up.

:54:58. > :55:02.The men and the women compete on different courses. They are lovely,

:55:02. > :55:08.beautiful shots. Ian Phillips is going to be competing for Great

:55:08. > :55:12.Britain. We are also going to Greenwich for some dressage as well.

:55:12. > :55:17.Plenty of British interest. Many people believe we can pick up yet

:55:18. > :55:22.another medal. Hopefully a gold. Look how beautiful Greenwich is

:55:22. > :55:32.looking. What a wonderful idea to hold the equestrian action down

:55:32. > :55:49.

:55:49. > :55:59.here. We can go live to see what is this year. This is a key test in

:55:59. > :55:59.

:55:59. > :56:05.the build-up to the individual dressage medals. She has provided a

:56:05. > :56:10.very good start. I would say she is going better than she did in the

:56:10. > :56:18.Grand Prix Special and no major mistakes so far. Lovely half passes

:56:18. > :56:28.with the backdrop of the Queen's House. Sometimes a horse gets a

:56:28. > :56:31.

:56:31. > :56:41.little bit downhill. We want to see him carrying himself. The extended

:56:41. > :56:42.

:56:42. > :56:52.canter up to the judges' heart. -- heart. One-and-a-half pier West and

:56:52. > :57:13.

:57:13. > :57:20.a slight loss of balance. No Three from Great Britain and one

:57:20. > :57:30.very strong contender from the Netherlands. This next hour or so

:57:30. > :57:35.

:57:35. > :57:39.it is going to be electric before we get to those gold medals. As we

:57:39. > :57:49.come to the conclusion of her performance, it is her last chance

:57:49. > :57:49.

:57:49. > :57:53.to really show the judges what the horse is made of. She has got the

:57:53. > :57:57.reins in one hand and turning the course, are showing she has got

:57:57. > :58:07.great control. A little loss of balance in the transition coming

:58:07. > :58:16.

:58:16. > :58:23.out. The same again. That was a better transition. Some real

:58:23. > :58:33.highlights here. That is to keep the judges in a good humour as she

:58:33. > :58:33.

:58:34. > :58:39.comes towards the end of her test. Equestrian theatre at its a very,

:58:39. > :58:49.very best. The Germans are not going to go down without a very

:58:49. > :58:55.

:58:56. > :59:01.good fight. The three young ladies have started off in form. The score

:59:02. > :59:07.to be at the moment is 82%. The judges are marking for artistic

:59:07. > :59:12.impression and technical merit. This is the extended trot. The

:59:12. > :59:16.horse up slide across the arena with all four feet off the ground,

:59:16. > :59:26.controlled beautifully by this diminutive little rideable stop

:59:26. > :59:33.

:59:33. > :59:43.brought his hind legs together for a one stride. The judges will take

:59:43. > :59:44.

:59:44. > :59:49.that into account. She looks very pleased. She is happy with her

:59:49. > :59:56.first Olympic Games. It is a very hot afternoon with very hot

:59:56. > :00:04.competition. Remember the leading Mark is 82% and that lead is with

:00:04. > :00:14.Holland at the moment. Adelinde Cornelissen is de to come, the

:00:14. > :00:17.

:00:17. > :00:23.reigning European champion. Now there is the usual stewards cheque

:00:23. > :00:28.for the Spurs to make sure they are all within the rules. Those marks

:00:28. > :00:34.are coming in just a moment. We have got a little pause for 10

:00:34. > :00:38.minutes or so before we go into the last six. Everyone of the 21,000

:00:38. > :00:48.will be back in here for that very exciting finish to this Olympic

:00:48. > :00:50.

:00:50. > :00:59.Games. The equestrian Olympics are better than ever. They go into

:00:59. > :01:05.second. That is a tremendous performance for this young 25 year-

:01:05. > :01:10.old Stark in what is her very first year in senior competition. A

:01:10. > :01:14.tremendous performance. Two more for Germany, three for Britain and

:01:14. > :01:24.one for Holland in the build-up to the individual medals for the

:01:24. > :01:25.

:01:25. > :01:31.Germany have had such success in the press side over the years. I am

:01:31. > :01:36.as excited about the performance as I am over the music. Yesterday that

:01:36. > :01:41.BMX competition opened with a bang. One expert described the day as a

:01:41. > :01:45.success because no-one left the track on a stretcher. It is that

:01:45. > :01:50.kind of sport and the freshness of it has led to a lot of interest.

:01:50. > :02:00.You cannot get a ticket to watch it live, but we will show you the

:02:00. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :02:04.Each race features 8 riders competing on a track with jumps,

:02:04. > :02:09.bumps and corners. The race that starts on an eight metre-high ramp

:02:09. > :02:16.and usually lasts about 40 seconds. The bikes are equipped with just

:02:16. > :02:19.one gear and one break. As a contact sport, collisions are not

:02:19. > :02:25.uncommon in BMX, although competitors must not deliberately

:02:25. > :02:29.impede one another or force another off the track. The lead rider may

:02:29. > :02:35.choose their line around the track, but on the final straight is not

:02:35. > :02:43.allowed to block the line of any rider trying to pass. The Grands

:02:43. > :02:47.Prix one as the front wheel crosses the finishing line. -- the race is

:02:47. > :02:51.won as the front wheel crosses the finishing line. 48 riders are

:02:51. > :02:55.competing for just two gold medals, one for the men and one for the

:02:55. > :02:58.women. The competition begins with a time trial qualification one

:02:58. > :03:03.where each rider races solely against the clock to determine

:03:03. > :03:07.their seeding for the main competition. A complex series of

:03:07. > :03:11.races follows, cutting the field down to two semi-finals. The top

:03:11. > :03:16.four from the semi-finals will enter the final to race for the

:03:16. > :03:19.medals. If you would like to get involved in Olympic sports, go to

:03:19. > :03:23.the BBC Sport website for more information.

:03:23. > :03:27.There are so many variables with this. We saw Shanaze Reade crashing

:03:27. > :03:31.out in Beijing. She did the same at the World Championships. She was in

:03:31. > :03:35.action yesterday and perform well, but it is quarter-finals day today

:03:35. > :03:38.for the men and Britain's Liam Phillips is looking to make his

:03:38. > :03:42.first Olympic semi-final. He needs to go quicker than he did weeks ago

:03:42. > :03:47.in the world championships, when he crashed and broke his collarbone.

:03:47. > :03:53.But in BMX racing, when you fall off, you get straight back on and

:03:53. > :03:58.go again. Helen Skelton is with Jamie staff at the Olympic Park. We

:03:58. > :04:04.are getting a wonderful shot of the BMX track. This is one of the

:04:04. > :04:08.hottest tickets on the Olympic Park today. He there are families who

:04:08. > :04:12.have never been to the Olympics who were desperate to come to the BMX

:04:13. > :04:18.because it is something kids relate to. You see banners all over the

:04:18. > :04:21.place saying, inspired a generation. That is fitting, because this is

:04:21. > :04:26.the one sport born out of kids being inspired by motocross. This

:04:26. > :04:29.is the quarter-finals, the first elimination phase for the man. By

:04:30. > :04:36.the end of today, 50% of the men's field will end their Olympic Jenny.

:04:36. > :04:41.Shanaze Reade -- Shanaze Reade competes tomorrow. With me now is

:04:41. > :04:45.Jamie staff, former BMX world champion and track gold medallist.

:04:45. > :04:54.Liam is in foreign gruelling day, because the quarter-finals is done

:04:54. > :05:00.over five runs, not to mention the competition. Yes, he has a tough

:05:00. > :05:05.day. He has also had surgery to deal with. Hopefully, he will be

:05:05. > :05:09.going fast. Yesterday, we saw most of the riders just wanting to get

:05:09. > :05:12.round in a safe manner. Unfortunately, we saw a few

:05:12. > :05:17.accidents and a couple of minor injuries. But all the guys will be

:05:17. > :05:21.ready for today and the girls for tomorrow. Not to scare people, but

:05:21. > :05:27.to give the riders the respect they deserve, we are mentioning the

:05:27. > :05:31.injuries. You cannot downplay the lottery element. In Liam's 8, he is

:05:31. > :05:37.alongside seven other riders, including some who have suffered

:05:37. > :05:42.massive injuries. These injuries are getting worse. As the tracks

:05:42. > :05:46.have got bigger, the accidents are getting worse. We are starting to

:05:46. > :05:51.get internal injuries to organs. Guys' hearts have stopped beating,

:05:51. > :05:57.we are tearing livers and kidneys. It is getting pretty hardcore. You

:05:57. > :06:00.have to give these guys their due. But after a few weeks of surgery,

:06:00. > :06:06.they are back on the track doing what they love. They deserve

:06:06. > :06:09.respect. I will let you hot tear it up to the commentary position.

:06:09. > :06:14.Jamie will be alongside the Ed Leigh throughout the quarter-finals.

:06:14. > :06:18.A long day for Liam Phillips. He will hope to be in the top two

:06:18. > :06:23.after three runs. If he is, he goes straight through to the semi-finals.

:06:23. > :06:27.It is blisteringly hot. You cannot back on what will happen. You can

:06:27. > :06:32.only be certain that the reception for Lynn Phillips will be as warm

:06:32. > :06:36.as the tarmac. -- the reception for Liam Phillips. I wonder what the

:06:36. > :06:39.atmosphere is like up there, because there is also the mountain

:06:39. > :06:44.biking up there. How much are they feeding off what we have seen on

:06:44. > :06:48.the road and in the velodrome? and Shanaze Reade have a constant

:06:48. > :06:54.reminder. Over my shoulder, you can see the velodrome. When they leave

:06:54. > :06:58.the gates, that will be on their horizon. So I hope it provides them

:06:58. > :07:02.with inspiration. I was with Annie Last at Hadleigh Farm the other day,

:07:02. > :07:07.and she has only been to the Olympic Village ones. It is hard

:07:07. > :07:10.for them not to get distracted. Shanaze Reade is in an Olympic

:07:10. > :07:14.apartment block alongside Victoria Pendleton. No doubt Victoria

:07:14. > :07:19.Pendleton has been celebrating, but that makes it difficult for Shanaze

:07:19. > :07:25.Reade. Those guys are trying to keep their focus. Do we expect Liam

:07:25. > :07:30.to go through today? He is a dark horse. He bounced back from that

:07:30. > :07:37.collarbone, but the guys behind the scenes are calling him a dark horse.

:07:37. > :07:42.He has strong competition. Pick a expect one of the others to take a

:07:42. > :07:46.medal. I was speaking to a multiple world champion earlier who won all

:07:46. > :07:50.his world titles when he was not the fastest. Liam is not the

:07:50. > :07:53.fastest. Anything could happen. Particularly in front of a home

:07:53. > :07:57.crowd. A soap, Helen will gear herself up

:07:57. > :08:01.for the action. Jamie is off to the commentary box and we are nearly

:08:01. > :08:11.ready to go there, but first, let's hear from him Phillips himself. He

:08:11. > :08:20.

:08:20. > :08:30.You can't throw yourself off a hill and jump 40 ft jumps, being scared.

:08:30. > :08:31.

:08:31. > :08:36.You will not win, simple as that. It was always going to be difficult.

:08:36. > :08:41.It was going to be tough. Time away allowed me to come to terms with

:08:41. > :08:45.the fact that if I am to do this sport, you are going to get hurt. I

:08:45. > :08:48.was training with some of the best bike riders in the world, but

:08:49. > :08:58.ultimately, there was a passion about it. It was always going to be

:08:59. > :09:01.

:09:01. > :09:09.tough. Good start by Phillips. Oh, what a crash! Phillips has gone

:09:09. > :09:17.down. That look too bad to me. was a pretty hard for. It is the

:09:17. > :09:21.infamous step up. Crashed at the World Championships. But I am

:09:21. > :09:25.thankful that I have overcome that. It has been and gone. I have had

:09:25. > :09:32.the surgery and had the collar bone fixed. Afterwards, there were other

:09:32. > :09:37.injuries. There were bits and pieces that went undetected. It is

:09:37. > :09:42.the Olympics in your home country. I have seen the way in which

:09:42. > :09:46.everybody reacts to major sporting events - the football, the Rugby.

:09:46. > :09:51.Managers refer to the team having an extra man when they are playing

:09:51. > :09:59.at home. That is something to draw on. To be at the centre of that is

:09:59. > :10:09.cool. I can't believe the accident we

:10:09. > :10:11.

:10:11. > :10:17.just saw was only weeks ago. You can follow him on twitter. He said,

:10:17. > :10:21.I can't wait to get out there again. Weeks ago, he broke his collarbone.

:10:21. > :10:25.Today he looks to make it through to the next round in the men's BMX.

:10:25. > :10:28.We will be there in a few moments. If you were tuning in this

:10:28. > :10:33.afternoon to watch the sailing, it is beautiful weather here on the

:10:33. > :10:38.Olympic Park. Lovely and calm, hardly a cloud in the sky, but not

:10:38. > :10:43.good for the sailing. In the men's 470, it is GB against Australia.

:10:43. > :10:47.They are racing for gold, but at the moment, there is not any racing

:10:48. > :10:54.going on. But those flattering -- fluttering flags are surely good

:10:54. > :10:59.news. Shirley told us they expect to get going around 3:30pm. We will

:10:59. > :11:07.keep you updated. Elsewhere on the BBC, you can see water polo on BBC

:11:07. > :11:12.Three at the moment. That is Italy against Hungary. It is tight, just

:11:12. > :11:22.one point in it. If you press the red button, there are all sorts of

:11:22. > :11:26.

:11:26. > :11:29.things. You can see taekwondo and other things. The BBC is covering

:11:29. > :11:32.the 2012 Olympics like never before. Whether it's on TV, online, on the

:11:32. > :11:35.radio or through your mobile. make sure you never miss a moment

:11:35. > :11:38.of these historic Games. On BBC One, we'll be broadcasting from

:11:38. > :11:41.Breakfast right through until one in the morning. Whilst BBC Three

:11:41. > :11:44.will be showing live action uninterrupted from nine in the

:11:44. > :11:47.morning to 11 o'clock at night. We'll also be showing more sports

:11:47. > :11:51.on the red button. Just click to see what's available. And the BBC

:11:51. > :11:55.websites will cover up to 24 live streams of every event. Go to

:11:55. > :12:00.bbc.co.uk/sport to see our new interactive sport player. We'll

:12:00. > :12:03.have every session of every sport every day live. On the website,

:12:03. > :12:09.you'll find a page for every athlete, sport, venue and country

:12:09. > :12:12.as well as all the news as it happens. If you're on the move, you

:12:12. > :12:16.can access the latest news through our new Olympic app or on the BBC

:12:16. > :12:19.mobile website. And you can listen to all the live coverage on BBC

:12:19. > :12:28.Radio 5 Live and BBC Radio 5 Live Olympics Extra, the new Olympics

:12:28. > :12:32.station. And if you've got a 3D TV and you want to see the Games in 3D,

:12:32. > :12:35.you can. We'll broadcast daily highlights on the BBC HD Channel as

:12:35. > :12:45.well as live coverage of the ceremonies and the 100m final.

:12:45. > :12:49.

:12:49. > :12:54.London 2012 on the BBC. We've got You can see that closing ceremony

:12:54. > :12:58.in 3-D if that is your thing. Cumbersome live sport now. Let's

:12:58. > :13:02.take you to the brand new BMX track that has been built on the Olympic

:13:02. > :13:06.Park especially for these Olympic Games. It is right next to the

:13:06. > :13:11.velodrome. As Helen Skelton told us a few moments ago, that is a

:13:11. > :13:14.constant reminder of the success of British cycling at the moment. Dave

:13:14. > :13:18.Brailsford, the brains behind British cycling, is not just behind

:13:18. > :13:22.what happens on the track and the road, he is also behind the

:13:22. > :13:27.mountain biking and the BMX. Fingers crossed that can rub off on

:13:27. > :13:37.Liam Phillips, who is going for Great Britain. Let's hand over to

:13:37. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:50.the intrigue and interested in each. We will have five races

:13:50. > :13:54.for each quarter final. The riders will score points according to

:13:54. > :13:59.their positions in each race. If you come first, you get one point,

:13:59. > :14:04.if you come second, two and so on. The riders with the lowest points

:14:04. > :14:11.then go straight into the semi- finals. We will have the final two

:14:11. > :14:16.races with just six riders. They will then join the others in the

:14:16. > :14:22.semi-finals. Five races in total. After three races, we take two out

:14:22. > :14:27.and then we have just two races with another two riders. Looking

:14:28. > :14:31.through the course, the track splits after the first turn. Jamie,

:14:32. > :14:36.we have been looking at this finish straight here. It is a lethal

:14:36. > :14:41.finish straight. A lot of the riders commentator on that

:14:41. > :14:46.yesterday. It does not look challenging from where we are stood

:14:46. > :14:50.and on TV. But there are some pretty steep transitions. And it is

:14:50. > :14:54.a bit technical. It has been catching riders out, so it will be

:14:54. > :15:00.interesting to see what happens. Hopefully, the riders have figured

:15:00. > :15:04.it out. The reigning Olympic champion said there are a lot of

:15:04. > :15:11.lips and some compressions coming through. Some riders have nicknamed

:15:11. > :15:15.the first obstacle the widow Maker! Hopefully, it is not! They will

:15:15. > :15:21.have taken a closer look in practice. These guys have been

:15:21. > :15:25.training for several days. A typical BMX rider puts a lot of

:15:25. > :15:29.effort into the first, second and third straight and does not focus

:15:29. > :15:39.so much on the last straight, but they will have paid attention after

:15:39. > :15:40.

:15:40. > :15:50.the accident yesterday. We are in the start date with the first of

:15:50. > :16:15.

:16:15. > :16:19.Quentin is one of the riders to look out for. The Australian is the

:16:19. > :16:29.wild child, absolutely covered in tattoos. But a lot of people are

:16:29. > :16:39.tipping him for great things. main man to watch is the rider in

:16:39. > :17:16.

:17:16. > :17:23.Gate One. They are under starter's was trying to squeeze through, and

:17:23. > :17:28.he has dropped back. The Brazilian Renato Rezende has had a fantastic

:17:28. > :17:38.race. Khalen Young went down hard just there on the rhythm section.

:17:38. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:48.Just got it wrong. So, van der Biezen in first. The Latvian Edzus

:17:48. > :17:58.Treimanis went down very hard yesterday. That was a very, very

:17:58. > :18:02.good race for van der Biezen. But Khalen Young has taken a big hit.

:18:03. > :18:12.That's very bad news for him. We mentioned him as one of the wild

:18:12. > :18:18.cards. Yes, he just could not quite get the inside line. For some

:18:18. > :18:21.reason, he had a big accident down on that third straight in the

:18:21. > :18:26.rhythm section, whether he just lost focus. You just have to lose

:18:26. > :18:30.focus for a split-second, and you're going down. It is such a

:18:30. > :18:34.technical sport, there is no room for error.

:18:34. > :18:39.ED LEIGH: We had a couple of people tweeting yesterday asking about the

:18:39. > :18:47.gearing on the bikes... Here we go. JAMIE STAFF: He just mistimed it,

:18:47. > :18:51.he hit the next lip, which sent him flying over the bars. But he is up

:18:51. > :18:57.and walking around, I think he is going to be OK. Hopefully he will

:18:57. > :19:01.be able to challenge for the next ride. He is a big man, he is

:19:01. > :19:08.wrapped in plenty of muscle, I reckon he should be able to shake

:19:08. > :19:13.that off. So, confirmation of that first run. The Brazilian, a total

:19:13. > :19:17.outsider, no-one saw that coming. He capitalised on Khalen Young

:19:17. > :19:27.going down. Then you have got the Ecuadorian in third place, Falla

:19:27. > :19:47.

:19:47. > :19:57.Buchely. Over to the second heat. Fields, with Jimenez in the second

:19:57. > :19:59.

:19:59. > :20:09.lane. JAMIE STAFF: Lane is still a good

:20:09. > :20:19.

:20:19. > :20:29.official will say, riders ready... Within five seconds, the gate will

:20:29. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:52.with a great start. Beautiful start. But coming up on the inside is

:20:52. > :20:58.Connor Fields. Connor Fields is leading. Good battle going on

:20:58. > :21:04.between the Frenchman and the Belgian. The Canadian Tory Nyhaug

:21:04. > :21:08.in third position. He had his spleen removed about 2.5 once ago,

:21:08. > :21:18.so he is just ecstatic to be here. But at the moment, fantastic race

:21:18. > :21:25.for Connor Fields. Tory Nyhaug came in in third place, and Liam

:21:25. > :21:29.Phillips got second. What a start from Liam Phillips Jason Day it was

:21:29. > :21:33.an amazing start, he got so much speed coming off the ramp, but

:21:33. > :21:40.unfortunately, Connor Fields just beat him to the first turn. How

:21:40. > :21:44.much of that was to do with the gate? Yes. It is important. But on

:21:44. > :21:53.the start, you have got to be super alert, and he was, and he got a

:21:53. > :22:02.brilliant start. But Connor Fields just got him for the first turn.

:22:02. > :22:12.The guy who broke his neck, Jelle van Gorkom, down in seventh. The

:22:12. > :22:24.

:22:24. > :22:30.Latvian, Rihards Veide, was in for the podium, Connor Fields,

:22:30. > :22:34.finished first in that heat. Now, onto the next one. Remember, there

:22:34. > :22:41.are five races for each quarter final, so this is just the start,

:22:41. > :22:46.but consistency is the key. Yes, consistency is rewarded. After the

:22:46. > :22:51.first three rides, if you fall in the first two, then you transferred

:22:51. > :23:01.to the semi-final, you do not have to ride the remaining two. And that

:23:01. > :23:39.

:23:39. > :23:49.powerful. Consistently one of the picked the inside lane. Gates down,

:23:49. > :23:49.

:23:49. > :23:59.and they are out. The New Zealander just getting out in front. Big

:23:59. > :24:00.

:24:00. > :24:08.crash there! He has taken the whole field with him! This is BMX, ladies

:24:08. > :24:15.and gentlemen, anything can happen, and anything did happen! That is

:24:15. > :24:20.absolutely unreal. I am pretty sure it was Nicolas long that went down

:24:20. > :24:30.first. I think he might have done his collarbone, which would be

:24:30. > :24:34.

:24:34. > :24:41.typical. The two US guys have gone down. From what I saw, it looked

:24:41. > :24:51.like David Herman actually caused that crash, when his front wheel

:24:51. > :24:52.

:24:52. > :25:02.just grabbed. That was phenomenal. We need to see a replay of that.

:25:02. > :25:04.

:25:05. > :25:09.Willers, The only rider who escaped! Everyone's searching for

:25:09. > :25:19.the same line in that first turn, so if one rider goes down, they all

:25:19. > :25:20.

:25:20. > :26:10.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:26:10. > :26:14.These guys are clipped in, so they at the start of Euro Olympics.

:26:14. > :26:24.huge blow for the Americans. Under starter's orders for the fourth

:26:24. > :26:24.

:26:24. > :27:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:27:41. > :27:51.the top ranked rider in the world, caught up! He managed to stay clear

:27:51. > :28:04.

:28:04. > :28:08.crossing the line, you cannot do that in BMX. This is unbelievable,

:28:08. > :28:14.all of these riders so desperate for a good start, they are putting

:28:14. > :28:19.it all on the line. Kirkham eventually crosses in seventh. But

:28:19. > :28:29.I think it was the German who really struggled, he went down so

:28:29. > :28:34.

:28:34. > :28:42.hard. Kirkham did not have a second to react, he actually ran him over.

:28:42. > :28:47.Willoughby Was unable to keep the league in that race. They come

:28:48. > :28:52.round, and you can see the German in third, losing his front wheel.

:28:52. > :28:59.And Kirkham goes straight through the back of him. It is phenomenally

:28:59. > :29:03.quick. We saw this at the World Championships, just silly mistakes,

:29:03. > :29:09.and don't forget, these guys have practised this track time and time

:29:09. > :29:19.again. Whether they are just super anxious, not focusing 100%, but

:29:19. > :29:19.

:29:19. > :29:23.silly mistakes are happening. Interestingly, we have got three

:29:23. > :29:27.matchmm of limestone on the top, I don't think that will be making it

:29:27. > :29:37.any more slippery, but certainly, we have got guys brushing it down

:29:37. > :29:44.

:29:44. > :29:50.accident for the Colombian. Helen, I think that has summed up BMX

:29:50. > :29:55.racing, four races, three big accidents. There is only one word

:29:55. > :29:59.to describe what we have seen so far, and it is absolute carnage.

:29:59. > :30:04.Liam Phillips is fine, he is in one piece at the moment. We have done

:30:04. > :30:09.just one run out of five which we will see in the quarter-finals. In

:30:09. > :30:17.the third heat, we saw an absolute monster. Everybody went out apart

:30:17. > :30:21.from the first rider. In the end, it was the New Zealander Willers

:30:22. > :30:25.who got his get out of jail free card. He looked over his shoulder

:30:25. > :30:29.and it looked like he could not believe what was going on, you just

:30:29. > :30:33.saw everybody else picking up the pieces of their bikes. It has been

:30:33. > :30:36.difficult to watch, difficult for anybody who knows anybody out on

:30:36. > :30:41.the track, exciting for those who are coming to this for the first

:30:41. > :30:48.time. I think this should have come with a public health warning before

:30:48. > :30:51.we put it on to BBC One. Let's just focus on Liam Phillips for a moment.

:30:51. > :30:56.The aim of BMX racing is to stay out of trouble, as we have seen,

:30:56. > :31:00.which is exactly what he did. Phillips did fantastically well on

:31:00. > :31:04.his first run. He got out early, which is what they want to do, to

:31:04. > :31:08.get clear of the traffic. Liam Phillips and Shanaze, because they

:31:08. > :31:11.have not raced that much this year on the World Cup series, some

:31:11. > :31:15.people have been saying that they have not got enough experience in

:31:15. > :31:25.traffic. But he was able to get away from the pack and put in a

:31:25. > :31:26.

:31:26. > :31:31.really fast time. He did really well in the Time Trial, but you do

:31:31. > :31:34.not get a medal for that, unfortunately. Just worth reminding

:31:34. > :31:44.people that Liam Phillips is still recovering from not just a big

:31:44. > :31:49.

:31:49. > :31:57.Birmingham in May and crashed on a corner, and snapped his collarbone.

:31:58. > :32:04.The awful thing about this sport is a broken arms and, Bourne's --

:32:04. > :32:09.collarbones are kinder for par for the course! I expect there is

:32:09. > :32:13.another broken collarbone out there already. People can see that live

:32:13. > :32:20.on the red button at just after half past three. Don't get too

:32:20. > :32:25.close to the action! I will try and hang out over here. I will take one

:32:25. > :32:34.step away from the rail and let the action unfold as safely as possible

:32:34. > :32:40.behind me. You can see that on the From the BMX track to the dressage

:32:40. > :32:45.arena, only at the Olympics! As the riders get to choose the music in

:32:45. > :32:53.the form to, I'm looking forward to see who opts for Justin Bieber. No

:32:53. > :33:00.scores are carried forward, we have some good hopes for Great Britain,

:33:00. > :33:03.Charlotte Dujardin and, is that still the case, having seen the

:33:03. > :33:07.competition out there? It is certainly getting a lot tighter.

:33:07. > :33:12.The British riders are going to have to ride out of their skin,

:33:12. > :33:16.probably achieving a PB, because the marks of the Olympics are much

:33:16. > :33:21.lower than you would see in general competition. We are down to the

:33:21. > :33:28.business and, the top six riders have been in action in the last

:33:28. > :33:34.third of the action, Germany had just gone into the lead, with a

:33:34. > :33:42.very, very high score. Not an Olympic record, but not far off it.

:33:42. > :33:48.A few minutes until Laura Bechtolsheimer rides, her mark is

:33:48. > :33:53.expected to be a liar. I have got to know my voice because I will --

:33:53. > :33:58.lower my voice to do so will be told off it by end to nowt. They

:33:58. > :34:03.are going all out for the individual competition, Germany are

:34:03. > :34:08.leading and also have the bronze medal position as well. But five

:34:08. > :34:11.forces are left to go, we will know in about half-an-hour. One more

:34:11. > :34:15.question, when we watch the cross country, we understand it is all

:34:15. > :34:19.about getting over the obstacles in the quickest time, and the show

:34:19. > :34:24.jumping, we understand getting over the fences. For people new to this,

:34:24. > :34:28.explain what we are looking out for. Slightly more complicated with the

:34:28. > :34:32.freestyle, because the writers can do what they want and are marked

:34:32. > :34:39.accordingly. But they do have to perform a certain number of things

:34:39. > :34:44.in it, when you think about ice- skating, you have to perform some

:34:44. > :34:48.things to get a good mark. They will be trying to perform with

:34:48. > :34:52.artistic impression, and there is no Justin Bieber, I have got to

:34:52. > :34:58.tell you. The better and more dynamic than music, the more the

:34:58. > :35:04.marks 10 to creep up. That is where Charlotte Dujardin will capitalise,

:35:04. > :35:10.we have got pond and circumstance coming, she has died Big Ben chimes,

:35:10. > :35:17.hopefully the judges will love it. We saw, plenty of smiles and flag-

:35:17. > :35:23.waving from the Germans, we have seen plenty of that in Greenwich.

:35:23. > :35:33.Let hand you over to our commentators. Fingers crossed for

:35:33. > :35:41.

:35:41. > :35:47.second of three challengers it from Germany. They have put down a

:35:47. > :35:57.challenge here for the individual medals. That is what is on this

:35:57. > :35:57.

:35:57. > :36:07.afternoon. We are into the last horses. She will be riding to the

:36:07. > :36:10.

:36:10. > :36:20.music of the Black Swan. We are expecting AA very good score. The

:36:20. > :36:21.

:36:21. > :36:26.three-time Olympic champion is in second place at the moment. The 18-

:36:26. > :36:36.year-old horse is due to retire after these Games. We have now got

:36:36. > :36:37.

:36:37. > :36:42.to the dramatic and exciting part of the afternoon. The house, it is

:36:42. > :36:50.at 98.5% fall, I would think that just the odd seat Jake Batten.

:36:50. > :36:59.Braised in historic -- glorious sunshine it in this historic venue.

:36:59. > :37:06.Seven judges, and the next Test is the first of the British riders.

:37:06. > :37:12.27-year-old Laura Bechtolsheimer. It is the 6th year of a partnership

:37:12. > :37:21.with her horse. They have achieved so much. They were in that team

:37:22. > :37:26.silver which put Britain on the map in the Europeans. That might bridge

:37:26. > :37:36.the German in third place at the moment, but the lead stays with her

:37:36. > :37:45.

:37:45. > :37:51.compatriot. -- that Mark puts the medal -- silver medal in the

:37:51. > :37:58.Europeans, she also one individual bronze. She has got some very good

:37:58. > :38:04.freestyle performances, her best performance last April, 87.6, which

:38:04. > :38:12.was her British freestyle record, but it has been beaten. What can

:38:12. > :38:22.she do? Her music comes from the Lion King soundtrack. The first of

:38:22. > :39:00.

:39:00. > :39:10.three rides for Great Britain, personal best, surely. Indeed, and

:39:10. > :39:10.

:39:10. > :39:59.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:39:59. > :40:09.than he has so far? I am holding my breath and not saying a word! But

:40:09. > :40:09.

:40:09. > :43:12.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:43:12. > :43:17.dancing together to the music. test. And if Laura went to the top

:43:17. > :43:27.of the leaderboard with three to go, and would mean Britain would

:43:27. > :44:01.

:44:01. > :44:07.time changes. -- one a very small mistake. Delighted to hear you say

:44:07. > :44:17.that, that is exactly my feeling. This is into the very last part of

:44:17. > :44:25.

:44:25. > :44:35.bronze, or one individual silver in the worlds. Her father and mother

:44:35. > :44:36.

:44:36. > :44:44.there. And that is, surely, a personal best. Just remember, if

:44:44. > :44:53.she beats 84.303 per cent, Britain will win an individual medal for

:44:53. > :44:59.certain, with two more for -- to come. Fantastic! That is one of the

:44:59. > :45:06.best tests I have ever seen from a British rider in freestyle. And she

:45:06. > :45:16.knows it. She comes from Gloucestershire. And now, this

:45:16. > :45:26.

:45:26. > :45:36.crowd have suddenly come a week. -- world too often. Could those gold

:45:36. > :45:55.

:45:55. > :46:02.getting. A can't believe the focus this horse had today. Just having a

:46:02. > :46:08.wonderful time. And let's remember, four years ago when they first went

:46:08. > :46:12.to the Olympics, this horse was younger and a lot more spooky.

:46:12. > :46:22.Spotted the big screens and didn't give of his best. But today, on the

:46:22. > :46:46.

:46:46. > :46:50.Here come the Marks... She goes into the lead. 88% artistic score,

:46:50. > :46:58.which means Britain will definitely win an individual medal, but what

:46:58. > :47:07.colour will it be? There are two more British riders to come and one

:47:07. > :47:12.from Holland. Oh, dear, it's going to be another very, very exciting

:47:12. > :47:22.competition! Now, Carl Hester, the man who has inspired British

:47:22. > :47:28.

:47:28. > :47:38.dressage, the man born in Sark, and they are going to have a gold-

:47:38. > :48:14.

:48:14. > :48:18.painted postbox there. What can he Britain, Carl Hester, and Utopia.

:48:18. > :48:24.This is the first time we have seen this, but I have had very good

:48:24. > :48:34.reports of the music. It certainly sounds like a good beginning.

:48:34. > :48:35.

:48:35. > :51:39.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:51:39. > :51:49.wow! Both horse and rider have such mistake there. Back into another

:51:49. > :51:49.

:51:49. > :52:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:52:41. > :52:51.pirouette... Second pirouette, very another good pirouette, hopefully

:52:51. > :52:51.

:52:51. > :53:54.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:53:54. > :54:03.he has made up for that tiny little from one of the best riders in the

:54:03. > :54:09.world? A tremendous performance, and let's put it into perspective.

:54:09. > :54:12.If he does more than 84.303%, Britain will have at least two of

:54:12. > :54:22.the three individual medals, and that has to be a strong possibility,

:54:22. > :54:23.

:54:23. > :54:33.after that test. That was fantastic. A man who has just completed his

:54:33. > :54:33.

:54:33. > :54:37.fourth Olympics, 12th time in the British team. He rode in Barcelona,

:54:37. > :54:47.Sydney, Athens, and now here. And the crowd are on their feet yet

:54:47. > :54:57.again. He was part of that wonderful European Championship win

:54:57. > :54:59.

:54:59. > :55:09.in Rotterdam on this lovely horse. And he could be on for an a Olympic

:55:09. > :55:11.

:55:11. > :55:18.medal here. So, one rider still to come. Carl Hester is pretty

:55:18. > :55:23.emotional, which is quite a surprise. He is such a superlative

:55:23. > :55:31.rider. Two riders to come, a strong challenge from the Netherlands, and

:55:31. > :55:35.of course, then, the young 26-year- old Charlotte Dujardin, a pupil, a

:55:35. > :55:40.stable rider, of this very man coming out of the ring now, Carl

:55:40. > :55:44.Hester. Everyone looking to the scoreboard. Let's have a look at

:55:44. > :55:54.some of the movements for the moment. This was the real highlight,

:55:54. > :56:31.

:56:31. > :56:38.the extended trot, this horse is wonder whether he will be just a

:56:38. > :56:42.shade disappointed with that. But one more British rider to come.

:56:42. > :56:48.That score means that Laura Bechtolsheimer is guaranteed an

:56:48. > :56:51.Olympic medal here in London. Fingers crossed it gets confirmed.

:56:51. > :56:57.I was hoping I could come home with a medal today after that

:56:57. > :57:02.performance. I get emotional thinking about it. He is 17 years

:57:02. > :57:06.old, and he has given me so much. That was the best performance of

:57:06. > :57:16.the week for us. He was just beautiful to ride, so powerful, but

:57:16. > :57:20.

:57:20. > :57:25.so easy. I was just thinking and he was doing it for me. He is always a

:57:25. > :57:29.big, powerful horse, but music has never been his favourite thing. In

:57:30. > :57:33.this last 12 months, he has really knuckled down to it. They cannot

:57:33. > :57:38.practise music that often, and this music I have only practised once in

:57:38. > :57:42.competition. I have been through it 1,000 times in my head. But he did

:57:42. > :57:46.exactly what I asked, he dealt with the atmosphere, he dealt with the

:57:46. > :57:51.loud music, he gave me his heart and soul today, and it makes me

:57:51. > :57:55.very proud of him, because at the end of the day, it is a living

:57:55. > :58:03.animal, which you have worked very hard to have a partnership with.

:58:03. > :58:08.When they fight for you like that, it means everything. You have got

:58:08. > :58:15.Charlotte Dujardin to come last - what are your chances for a gold?

:58:15. > :58:20.To be honest, I have no idea. I just hope that, touch wood, I would

:58:20. > :58:25.get to stand on the podium at the end. If anybody is to beat me,

:58:25. > :58:28.obviously, I wanted to be Charlotte, she has had such fantastic rides

:58:28. > :58:33.over the last few days. She has done a fantastic job with that

:58:33. > :58:43.horse. I do not wish anyone anything bad, but if anyone is

:58:43. > :58:50.

:58:50. > :58:54.going to be above me, I hope it is with Parzival, the challenge from

:58:54. > :58:58.the Netherlands, and it is a strong one. She won the European

:58:58. > :59:04.championships last year, ahead of the British riders. She also won

:59:04. > :59:09.the World Cup Finals, with a brilliant performance. The horse

:59:09. > :59:14.has been off during the summer, he was brought into the team quite

:59:14. > :59:24.late because of health reasons - will he be at his best? If he is,

:59:24. > :59:39.

:59:39. > :59:49.produce some fantastic work. The lovely music from the Nutcracker

:59:49. > :59:52.

:59:52. > :59:56.Suite as well. The get tremendous height there, really bouncing. I

:59:56. > :00:06.think this is all going to be down to little mistakes and errors, in

:00:06. > :00:44.

:00:44. > :00:54.little bit tight in his neck, unlike Uthopia. But this horse has

:00:54. > :01:10.

:01:10. > :01:20.other highlights. Lovely extended two, they have had five years of

:01:20. > :01:50.

:01:50. > :02:00.international experience competing rather big. -- that appear or

:02:00. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :04:44.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:04:45. > :04:52.music? Per fitly in time. -- Netherlands has done a great test.

:04:52. > :04:57.They are very, very happy. Well, now the marks are going to be very,

:04:57. > :05:07.very interesting. Let's put you in the picture again. Laura

:05:07. > :05:09.

:05:09. > :05:19.Bechtolsheimer, on 84.339 per cent. Carl Hester for Britain with a

:05:19. > :05:21.

:05:21. > :05:25.2.857. -- 82.857. Laura Bechtolsheimer, waiting to see the

:05:25. > :05:32.mark. She is the current leader. She will definitely win at a medal

:05:33. > :05:37.for Great Britain. Britain will definitely get a medal. What colour

:05:37. > :05:45.it will be remains in the balance, with one Test to come from

:05:45. > :05:49.Charlotte Dujardin. Yes, and what a fantastic performance she has given.

:05:49. > :05:54.If there is any ray of hope for the British it is that the horse

:05:54. > :05:58.sometimes comes behind the vertical, and is not always as good in the

:05:58. > :06:08.mouth as it might be. But no mistakes, she has not left anything

:06:08. > :06:08.

:06:08. > :06:18.to chance. You see that appear wet from above, really amazing. -- that

:06:18. > :06:35.

:06:35. > :06:40.won at its first ever dressage medal earlier in the week, it would

:06:41. > :06:47.be icing on the cake for British dressage if they could win another

:06:47. > :06:51.gold medal. It is not going to be easy, because this Dutch lady has

:06:51. > :06:58.done a very good test. Laura is looking to the scoreboard, waiting

:06:58. > :07:08.for the mark. These anxious moments, waiting for the results to go up.

:07:08. > :07:09.

:07:09. > :07:14.It seems an age. Here it is, it is an enormous one. Now, Charlotte

:07:14. > :07:18.Dujardin has got to produce her own personal best. Laura will be a

:07:18. > :07:26.little disappointed. The best she can do is a bronze, with one to

:07:26. > :07:36.come. It is all in the hands of the last British rider. A Ricky a year

:07:36. > :07:38.

:07:38. > :07:44.ago, going for gold, she has got to beat 88.25, she has done it, but to

:07:44. > :07:54.do it in her first final would be something else. Here comes

:07:54. > :08:01.

:08:01. > :08:06.depending on what this lady does -- Laura could still get silver. She

:08:06. > :08:12.came to ride when she left school, she knows this wonderful young

:08:12. > :08:22.rider inside out. But then Charlotte went to Carl Hester, he

:08:22. > :08:22.

:08:22. > :08:28.realised her potential, he put her on this lovely, lovely horse. None

:08:28. > :08:38.has Blewbury, he is only 10. They are partnership which Britain has

:08:38. > :08:38.

:08:38. > :10:09.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:10:09. > :10:19.is a very emotive, let me tell you, want to see an extended frame like

:10:19. > :10:19.

:10:19. > :11:07.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:11:07. > :11:17.there is ever a time to ride for your life, it is now, Charlotte.

:11:17. > :11:17.

:11:17. > :13:14.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:13:14. > :13:21.And she is doing it, she is doing months ago, this girl had not

:13:21. > :13:31.ridden at serious international level. Here she is, on the edge of

:13:31. > :13:31.

:13:31. > :15:09.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 55 seconds

:15:09. > :15:18.Perot wet, but came out just in bit more now. Well, what a

:15:18. > :15:25.performance, what a temperament. She has not come from a background

:15:25. > :15:31.that would put her with money to buy horses worthy of a title like

:15:31. > :15:36.the Olympic gold medallist, but sheer talent speaks volumes. It has

:15:36. > :15:41.been worked by the likes of Carl Hester, and here she is but a

:15:41. > :15:51.performance in which is in touching distance of a gold. She has got to

:15:51. > :16:05.

:16:05. > :16:09.be the score of 88.196. -- beat the cheers knowing if she has one gold,

:16:09. > :16:16.or could it be this girl? She certainly has lived up to all the

:16:16. > :16:24.expectations. She got a 90% of British record in Gloucestershire,

:16:25. > :16:34.if she does that again, she could win the gold medal. Has she? She

:16:35. > :16:40.

:16:40. > :16:46.has a very big score to beat, it is the back. It will be the crowd that

:16:46. > :16:56.tells her, I suspect, who has won. At the moment, Adelinde Cornelissen

:16:56. > :17:05.is in the lead. In third place at the moment, Helen Langehanenberg,

:17:06. > :17:15.with Damon Hill. This horse has lovely, correct work, but did not

:17:16. > :17:26.

:17:26. > :17:36.have the power, and that one fallen absolutely silent. She has

:17:36. > :17:44.

:17:45. > :17:52.done it! Charlotte Dujardin has iced the cake in style! What a

:17:52. > :17:59.performance! Britain wins gold and bronze in the last of the

:17:59. > :18:02.equestrian Olympic disciplines, the Individual Dressage! Well, that is

:18:02. > :18:10.something which is very special to be witnessing here this afternoon.

:18:10. > :18:15.And it must be so special for you. It is incredible. I did not think

:18:15. > :18:20.she had done enough. The great thing is that the judges have

:18:20. > :18:27.really rewarded this horse's correct training, and the harmony

:18:27. > :18:33.that they had together. There's the man who said, come and work for me,

:18:33. > :18:41.Charlotte. Oh, and why don't you try it on this lovely horse

:18:41. > :18:49.Valegro? And now, she is Olympic champion! This lady has got a story

:18:50. > :18:59.to tell! Richard Davidson, who has done so much for the sport. And

:19:00. > :19:00.

:19:00. > :19:03.there is Mum. These are magical moments. There's the owner, and

:19:03. > :19:09.what an owner she has been. And one has to say, the lottery funding has

:19:09. > :19:15.also played a huge part, not just in the success of dressage, but

:19:15. > :19:23.indeed in all of the Olympic medals we have won, right back to the

:19:23. > :19:27.silver in eventing. The lottery has really shown what support can do.

:19:27. > :19:33.The world-class performance manager there, he has been so much part of

:19:33. > :19:43.putting the structure in behind the riders. He will have a big smile on

:19:43. > :19:44.

:19:44. > :19:53.his face. You do not often see a smile on Will's face, but we have

:19:53. > :20:00.got one today. Charlotte has got such a temperament, a temperament

:20:00. > :20:10.which has brought her the gold medal! Charlotte Dujardin has won

:20:10. > :20:16.

:20:16. > :20:22.Well, that's absolutely magical. She promised me she would not cry

:20:22. > :20:27.is she won gold. I am joined now by Charlotte's mother. She was

:20:27. > :20:34.phenomenal. Absolutely. The pressure was really on her. I am so

:20:34. > :20:37.proud, it is just unbelievable. is important to point out that

:20:37. > :20:44.you're not a family with jet loads of money, you have worked really

:20:44. > :20:48.hard to get to this point. Yes. We had a transition from show ponies

:20:48. > :20:51.to dressage, and we never had the financial backing. When my mum died,

:20:51. > :20:57.I was lucky enough to have some inheritance money, and I knew that

:20:57. > :21:05.I had to put that towards buying Charlotte a horse, and fortunately,

:21:05. > :21:10.she was able to make a donkey do anything. She made her first horse

:21:10. > :21:17.into a great horse. After that, thank goodness, I managed to get

:21:17. > :21:22.hold of Carl Hester, to put her in the right hands from then on in.

:21:22. > :21:26.Every parent wants lessons for their child, I just knew she needed

:21:26. > :21:31.a lucky break. She had the talent, but I never had the financial

:21:31. > :21:36.backing. So many times, you see children that cannot afford to go

:21:36. > :21:40.forward, and if you get a lucky break, which truly we had, it is

:21:40. > :21:45.just unbelievable. The British performance director has called her

:21:45. > :21:50.the ultimate Olympian, he says she is so focused, she does not see the

:21:50. > :21:54.razzmatazz of the Olympics - where does that come from? When we used

:21:54. > :21:59.to do showing, the big competitions, I used to tell her, it is just

:21:59. > :22:07.another show. So maybe it has just come from that grounding, who

:22:07. > :22:10.knows? She is a cool customer. team gold medal was incredible, and

:22:10. > :22:13.you and I had a conversation about how incredible it would be if

:22:13. > :22:18.Charlotte could win gold, but you must have been a bag of nerves.

:22:18. > :22:23.was. Everybody expects it, and that is the thing, when you know she can

:22:23. > :22:30.do it, as well as the combination of horse and rider, it is

:22:30. > :22:34.phenomenal. And what about the music? Yes, she did a pre- run of

:22:34. > :22:38.the test, with the music by Tom Hunter. We talk about doing

:22:38. > :22:48.something patriotic, because it was on home ground, and he did a

:22:48. > :22:53.

:22:53. > :22:58.fantastic job. And so did your Isn't that lovely? Not the first

:22:58. > :23:02.proud mother we have seen at these Olympic Games. And this is what it

:23:02. > :23:12.means for the medal table. Those two medals have taken us up to the

:23:12. > :23:15.half-century. It is our 23rd gold medal. Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes - so

:23:15. > :23:20.many people across the country will think, dress size is not something

:23:20. > :23:25.which is open to me, but this shows it can be? I think that is really

:23:25. > :23:30.important. We saw the German rider earlier, but it is very hard to

:23:30. > :23:36.keep hold of these horses. Carl Hester, you have worked very hard

:23:36. > :23:40.to keep hold of Uthopia, as well as Valegro, you have managed to keep

:23:40. > :23:47.them in Britain... It has been emotional for us to keep the horses

:23:47. > :23:56.going. Anybody who works with horses will know that without the

:23:56. > :23:59.horse, we are nothing. To keep two horses at this peak, to finish in

:23:59. > :24:04.the top five at the Olympics, is very hard, it takes a lot of

:24:04. > :24:08.management. In the last few weeks, we have really had to cross our

:24:08. > :24:11.fingers. Every morning, you walk out into the yard and you think,

:24:11. > :24:17.please let them be all right this morning. You know that when you

:24:17. > :24:22.wake up as an athlete, or as a rider, you know how you feel, but

:24:22. > :24:27.the horse obviously cannot tell you. We have had so much back-up. Thank

:24:27. > :24:30.goodness for the lottery, and for the world-class team behind us.

:24:31. > :24:33.Because we treat them as super athletes, and I think they have

:24:33. > :24:39.repaid everybody with what they have done for Great Britain and for

:24:39. > :24:42.the team. You have done so much for British dressage, you were part of

:24:42. > :24:47.the gold medal-winning team earlier in the week, but it was

:24:47. > :24:51.disappointing for you not to get an individual medal today. It is not

:24:51. > :24:58.that disappointing, actually, because Charlotte is obviously my

:24:58. > :25:03.other half, so... Not literally, but my other half of my work side,

:25:03. > :25:08.we rely on each other. I always said that would give me a huge

:25:08. > :25:11.pleasure, and I always said that she was the gold-medallist. He is

:25:11. > :25:17.the best horse in the world, and Uthopia does not quite have what is

:25:17. > :25:22.needed on this last day, which is what happened to me today, I think,

:25:22. > :25:28.I just struggled a bit to keep his energy up. But Valegro is just the

:25:28. > :25:35.consummate professional. Well done, and if you're going to be beaten, I

:25:35. > :25:39.suppose, be beaten by the lady you have trained!

:25:39. > :25:48.Well done to Carl Hester, and huge congratulations to Charlotte

:25:48. > :25:51.Dujardin. Here she is, soaking up the applause. I must also say well

:25:51. > :26:01.done to Laura Bechtolsheimer, who picked up the bronze medal. We must

:26:01. > :26:02.

:26:03. > :26:09.not forget her. It has been a remarkable Games for our Equestrian

:26:09. > :26:13.riders. Yes, it is an amazing story with Charlotte, the fact that she

:26:13. > :26:17.only competed in this style for the first time in January of last year,

:26:17. > :26:22.in the Grand Prix Freestyle. It is a meteoric rise. You have had a

:26:22. > :26:28.real mix of sport this afternoon. Yes, it is not often you go from
