:00:03. > :00:12.able to speak to Charlotte later in the afternoon. The only

:00:13. > :00:13.

:00:13. > :00:18.disappointing thing is that those horses dance better than me. Here's

:00:18. > :00:26.what we've got coming up over the next few hours. Nicola Adams will

:00:26. > :00:30.be going for gold in the boxing. Ireland will come to a standstill

:00:30. > :00:39.this afternoon, as Katie Taylor goes for gold in the women's

:00:39. > :00:43.Lightweight boxing final. And there will be plenty of thrills and

:00:43. > :00:53.spills at the BMX track. Liam Phillips will be trying to book a

:00:53. > :00:58.

:00:58. > :01:08.place in the semi-finals tomorrow. And we will be checking in on the

:01:08. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:34.We will be following the two British athletes in action in the

:01:35. > :01:38.taekwondo. In the BMX, we will see if Liam Phillips can get through to

:01:38. > :01:48.the semi-finals. He went out at this stage in Beijing four years

:01:48. > :01:56.

:01:56. > :02:04.ago. At 6pm, we move over to BBC The boxing is taking place at the

:02:04. > :02:11.ExCeL, but in another arena there, the taekwondo is taking place. J

:02:11. > :02:19.Jones is just nine team, but she is up against an even younger opponent

:02:19. > :02:23.in the next round. Each bout consists of the rear two-minute

:02:23. > :02:33.rounds. Jade Jones is known as the head hunter, and we are about to

:02:33. > :02:44.

:02:44. > :02:49.happy with the way things are going, comfortably ahead going into the

:02:49. > :02:58.final round. She has added great composure and concentration to her

:02:58. > :03:02.game. She is very good at covering. Hopefully you're going to see a

:03:02. > :03:06.little bit of composure here. But let's not discount the Japanese

:03:06. > :03:11.athlete, she still bears a threat. But the concern for her is that if

:03:11. > :03:21.she concedes many more points, should be counted out, if the gap

:03:21. > :03:44.

:03:44. > :03:53.that kyong-go. It helps that you are fluent in Korean, John!

:03:53. > :03:59.helps! She has picked up another point!. She is picking off the

:03:59. > :04:09.Japanese athlete. Hamada knows she has got to keep coming forward, but

:04:09. > :04:30.

:04:30. > :04:34.every time she does, she is getting with her right leg. 10 seconds to

:04:34. > :04:44.go, and even the most optimistic of Japanese might be closing the book

:04:44. > :04:55.

:04:55. > :05:04.Wales is finding itself a pocket- sized at battling heroin. Into the

:05:04. > :05:13.She is through to the semi-finals, so close to the medals. She will be

:05:13. > :05:21.facing the world No. 1 and top seed. We will be back for that at around

:05:21. > :05:28.5pm. Now we are going to go to the ExCel to see history made. The

:05:28. > :05:32.biggest of all stages, the Olympic stage, today Britain's Nicola Adams

:05:32. > :05:37.and Ireland's Katie Taylor are fighting for gold and glory. They

:05:37. > :05:41.began boxing before the sport was even sanctioned, but never gave up

:05:41. > :05:49.on their dreams. They are trailblazers for women's boxing,

:05:49. > :05:54.they really are. Clare, as far as Nicola Adams it is concerned, she

:05:54. > :06:01.is an amazing journey, lack of funding and a career-threatening

:06:01. > :06:06.injury. She fell down the stairs in 2009 and hurt a vertebra in a back,

:06:06. > :06:13.she couldn't even lift a glass of milk, she was living with her mum,

:06:13. > :06:17.to stop boxing. She go back on the road, she has worked as a builder,

:06:17. > :06:23.worked on various soap operas on TV, now she has lottery funding, she is

:06:23. > :06:27.here and has a great shot at a gold medal. What can you say about Katie

:06:27. > :06:32.Taylor? Half the crowd are bedecked in the Irish flags. A huge amount

:06:32. > :06:37.of support for the athlete regarded as Ireland's best hope of a gold

:06:37. > :06:41.medal at these Games. She carried the flag for them at the opening

:06:41. > :06:46.ceremony, she is the Irish, European and world champion. She

:06:46. > :06:56.has played Gaelic football and association football for Ireland.

:06:56. > :07:06.

:07:06. > :07:10.the boxer wearing red, representing Ireland, Katie Taylor! Unbelievable,

:07:10. > :07:16.I don't know if the viewers can get the full appreciation of this

:07:16. > :07:26.atmosphere, but it is blistering. It is more like a football match.

:07:26. > :07:31.

:07:31. > :07:36.This is a dream come true, to be Taylor! Her experience, her

:07:36. > :07:41.strength, her speed, shone through in that round. I feel like I'm in

:07:41. > :07:46.heaven at the moment. improvement she has made over a

:07:46. > :07:56.short period of time his immense. Katie Taylor, superb. Who would bet

:07:56. > :08:04.

:08:04. > :08:08.With me here is Lucy O'Connor and Natasha Jonas. How important is

:08:08. > :08:12.Katy Did the sport of boxing? What she'd done for women in boxing?

:08:12. > :08:17.has been an ambassador for boxing far over 10 years, she is a

:08:17. > :08:22.consummate professional in the ring and outside, she is a four time

:08:22. > :08:27.world champion, and an absolute role-model for women's boxing and

:08:27. > :08:32.women's sport as a whole. You have fought against her, in the quarter-

:08:32. > :08:39.finals and what is she like to come up against? Shias the embodiment of

:08:39. > :08:44.the sport -- she is the embodiment of. She is quick, strong,

:08:44. > :08:52.everything you would want in a boxer. It was unfortunate I drew

:08:52. > :08:56.her, yes, she is just an absolute athlete. Is she unbeatable this

:08:56. > :09:00.evening, do you think? And for me personally, I have always said that

:09:00. > :09:06.Katie is the one to beat, she always has been and always will be

:09:06. > :09:12.for as long as she boxes. It is half in the back, but it is never

:09:12. > :09:22.easy in boxing, it only takes one thing to change everything. Among

:09:22. > :09:26.the supporters, two very famous A cracking atmosphere ringside. Two

:09:26. > :09:31.gentleman looking forward to the fight. What do we think? She is

:09:31. > :09:35.going to do a job, she is going to be brisk and efficient, she is

:09:35. > :09:41.pound-for-pound the best woman boxer in the world. I agree with

:09:41. > :09:45.everything he just said. Ireland is going to get a gold today. What is

:09:45. > :09:50.the atmosphere like at home? A I am from the same town as her, and for

:09:50. > :09:55.the last few matches they have a big screens up in this -- in the

:09:55. > :09:59.square. The place has gone bananas for her, she is the biggest face in

:09:59. > :10:03.Ireland at the moment. Friends of mine are flying over from Dublin

:10:03. > :10:12.and they're saying there had been an atmosphere in Dublin like this

:10:12. > :10:18.since Italia 90. What will they do if she wins? They will go out and

:10:18. > :10:22.celebrate. There will be nobody here up for the third bout. If we

:10:22. > :10:27.win, a quick bash at the anthem and then we are gone, celebrating!

:10:27. > :10:34.you were playing this arena now, what a buyer as you would get?

:10:34. > :10:44.is fantastic, they would want us off quickly! They want to see what

:10:44. > :10:49.

:10:49. > :10:59.they came to see. This will be 99% or Irish. Gentlemen, thank you very

:10:59. > :10:59.

:10:59. > :11:03.much indeed. This should be a There will be a massive amount of

:11:03. > :11:06.support in here. It is just extraordinary, the excitement is

:11:06. > :11:11.building up, Ireland are hoping for their first goal but all of the

:11:11. > :11:17.Games. Let's talk about Nicola Adams of. What sort of a fighter

:11:17. > :11:20.she is. She has been a trailblazer for British women's boxing, she has

:11:20. > :11:25.been boxing fight over 10 years, but she has had to fight some

:11:25. > :11:29.adversity. She had a period earlier in her career when women's boxing

:11:29. > :11:34.was not allowed in this country, and had to overcome some terrible

:11:34. > :11:38.injuries, in the late part of 2009. So she really has such a mental

:11:38. > :11:46.strength to come through all this adversity to be here, at an Olympic

:11:46. > :11:54.final. What chance to you give her tonight? She has met Wren can-can -

:11:54. > :11:57.- ring can-can three times, she is a to settle for silver. Here, with

:11:57. > :12:03.all this at support of she thrives on that noise, she thrives on that

:12:03. > :12:08.the board. When you come inside here, it feels like it is midnight.

:12:09. > :12:13.We could be in Las Vegas, the music is blaring out. But three great

:12:13. > :12:23.boxing matches to look forward to. As far as Nicola Adams is concerned,

:12:23. > :12:30.

:12:30. > :12:37.she has been speaking to us about Nicola Adams, 51 kilos, two times

:12:37. > :12:43.world medallist. I was 13 years old, I wasn't nervous at all. I couldn't

:12:43. > :12:47.wait to get in there. It all started off, Nicola coming to the

:12:47. > :12:52.gym with me. Was your intention to take her to a boxing session?

:12:52. > :12:58.no, I didn't realise they had boxing. They just went off and did

:12:58. > :13:02.their own thing. I knew she wouldn't get hurt, because they

:13:02. > :13:06.have the trainer's there. It was just something for children to do.

:13:06. > :13:12.At the end of the day, it was very expensive, the equipment, so it

:13:12. > :13:17.hasn't been easy. There was a time not long ago when it was nearly all

:13:17. > :13:23.over for you. I had a serious back injury, I was in bed for three

:13:23. > :13:29.months. I am such a get-up-and-go person, it was really frustrating.

:13:29. > :13:35.I couldn't train, that elections were going on, I went to not being

:13:35. > :13:40.able to do one set-up. Did you think this was it? A few times! The

:13:40. > :13:46.first time I started punching again, I just felt so slow, I was a bit

:13:47. > :13:53.overweight, I just saw everybody else in Team GB flying up and down,

:13:53. > :13:59.I thought, how my ever going to get back to how I was before? I was

:13:59. > :14:03.saying to my coach, am I ready? They were saying, yes, you can do

:14:03. > :14:10.this. She wants to become the Olympic champion, so what she does

:14:10. > :14:20.it is she works hard to do that. It is because of the likes of heard of

:14:20. > :14:23.

:14:23. > :14:31.Do you believe you can beat Cancan Ren? She has beaten you twice.

:14:31. > :14:35.have done it once this year, I can do it again. 1000 registered in the

:14:35. > :14:41.last year, what do you think what happened after you win the gold?

:14:41. > :14:50.There will be millions! What we need to have our Olympic gold

:14:51. > :14:54.medal? I will give it a whole She has gone from no funding to

:14:54. > :14:57.being based in Sheffield at the National Institute of Sport, that

:14:57. > :15:01.is where you are as well. What difference does it make to be

:15:01. > :15:06.trading with the men, to have the best facilities and the best

:15:06. > :15:10.coaches? Is it makes all the difference, and we have to thank

:15:10. > :15:15.the National Lottery for that. We are trading there, feeding off each

:15:15. > :15:21.other's success, we are all there with the one goal in mind, the

:15:21. > :15:26.Olympics. We have got the best of the best, which makes us a complete

:15:26. > :15:30.athlete. We saw Nicola's mum, it must be hugely important have a

:15:30. > :15:36.mother that is supportive and understanding of the sport of

:15:36. > :15:40.boxing? My mum will tell you, I was a bit of a tomboy growing up, and

:15:40. > :15:45.if I had chosen to be a ballerina or a gymnast she would have worried

:15:45. > :15:50.a bit more than she does with the boxing! She has always been behind

:15:50. > :15:56.me 100%. She does worry, because no parent like to see their child be

:15:56. > :16:01.hit. But she is behind me, she believes I'm good enough not to get

:16:01. > :16:06.hurt. She has always supported me, it makes a difference. Nicholas

:16:06. > :16:11.says that in 10 years she has never had a broken nose or a cut lip --

:16:11. > :16:17.Nicola. She says, I have a long arms, I try and stay out of trouble.

:16:17. > :16:23.She is built for it, isn't she? Back in Sheffield not long ago, we

:16:23. > :16:27.did a test at to see how long people's reach was the man she had

:16:27. > :16:33.a longer reach than I did. So she is fitter, stronger, faster than

:16:33. > :16:37.she has been all year. I think now is Nicola's time. She is going to

:16:37. > :16:41.come out here in front of a home crowd and do herself justice.

:16:41. > :16:47.Presumably when they come out to a noise like this, the adrenalin

:16:47. > :16:52.surge must be massive. Nothing hurts when the adrenalin is rushing.

:16:52. > :16:57.When I was against Katie Taylor, they have the record of the highest

:16:57. > :17:01.noise of the Games. Just to be part of that was absolutely brilliant.

:17:01. > :17:11.For it to be women's boxing that holds the record for noise level is

:17:11. > :17:21.unbelievable as well. So, our first fight will be run can count against

:17:21. > :17:24.Nicola Adams, -- Cancan Ren against a Nicola Adams. This is an historic

:17:24. > :17:28.afternoon. The first time that medals have been awarded at the

:17:28. > :17:38.Olympic Games for women's boxers. We will bring you thought

:17:38. > :17:52.

:17:52. > :17:56.COMMENTATOR: We are on the cusp of a profoundly significant moment on

:17:56. > :18:04.the annals of a Olympic history. For the first time, women will

:18:04. > :18:11.compete in an Olympic boxing final here. And the boxers who have

:18:11. > :18:17.earned their place at this historic event with their skill, courage and

:18:17. > :18:27.dedication are from China and Great Britain. The capacity crowd here at

:18:27. > :18:29.

:18:29. > :18:34.the ExCel arena, once again in Approaching the boxing ring for her

:18:34. > :18:39.third -- third round, the No. 1 seed in the women's flyweight

:18:39. > :18:49.division, the reigning world champion, and tournament No. 1,

:18:49. > :18:50.

:18:50. > :18:55.Cancan Ren. 5 ft 6 tall, 24 years of age. Just listen to the welcome

:18:55. > :19:00.that will be afforded to the No. 2 seed, Nicola Adams, beaming from

:19:00. > :19:05.ear to ear as she approaches the Olympic boxing ring for this, the

:19:05. > :19:13.flyweight final. The gold medal bout, in front of an adoring home

:19:13. > :19:19.support. What a wonderful ovation she is receiving. That is almost

:19:19. > :19:25.tantamount to a rock concert! is just an incredible atmosphere

:19:25. > :19:32.here. Both boxers, stepping into the ring that is going to make

:19:32. > :19:42.history. Nicola Adams, enjoying every moment. She will not stop

:19:42. > :19:42.

:19:42. > :19:49.smiling for the entire about and Ladies and gentlemen, in the red

:19:49. > :19:59.corner, representing the People's Republic of China, the reigning

:19:59. > :20:22.

:20:22. > :20:26.world champion and world No. 1, Great Britain, Nicola Adams!

:20:26. > :20:31.RONALD MCINTOSH: The first women's boxing final in Olympic history is

:20:31. > :20:38.about to take place. So, here we go, the first of the scheduled four

:20:38. > :20:48.two-minute rounds, in the first ever women's Olympic boxing final.

:20:48. > :20:52.

:20:52. > :21:02.This is in the 51 kg flyweight World Championship gold-medallist,

:21:02. > :21:04.

:21:04. > :21:10.Ren Cancan. Her rival, representing Great Britain, Nicola Adams. Nicola,

:21:10. > :21:20.29 years of age, from Leeds. This is the biggest bout in both of

:21:20. > :21:20.

:21:20. > :21:26.their competitive lives. Cancan has beaten Nicola Adams twice, in the

:21:26. > :21:36.last two World Championships. But Nicola has started extremely well

:21:36. > :21:41.

:21:41. > :21:46.Cancan came in a tournament in Bulgaria earlier on this year. She

:21:46. > :21:53.won by a narrow margin, and this promises to be an equally

:21:53. > :21:58.competitive encounter, on the grandest stage of all. Good

:21:58. > :22:03.exchange of shots there, but it was Nicola who came off best. She had

:22:03. > :22:06.the last word. Adams has said that Cancan is the only boxer on earth

:22:06. > :22:11.who's capable of beating her, but she feels she has turned a corner

:22:11. > :22:19.mentally, and in terms of tactics and skill. She says she will not be

:22:19. > :22:22.denied on this historic occasion. The 10,000 strong crowd are willing

:22:22. > :22:31.her on to victory. It has been a great start, exactly what she

:22:31. > :22:36.needed to do. Cancan is a master of counter boxing. Nicola has to go

:22:36. > :22:40.first and third, which she is doing. It is an excellent start. The bell

:22:41. > :22:50.sounds to bring an end to the first round of boxing, and it is Nicola

:22:51. > :23:11.

:23:11. > :23:21.with the progress of his boxer. JOSH LEWSEY: I do not blame him,

:23:21. > :23:57.

:23:57. > :24:00.Nicola has been throwing some This is a rematch of the World

:24:00. > :24:07.Championship final from last year, and Nicola Adams has come out

:24:07. > :24:11.absolutely blazing. Amazing boxing here by Adams. Cancan, just

:24:11. > :24:16.struggling to work out the speed and the combinations. Beautiful

:24:16. > :24:20.left jab again from Adams. The noise level continues to rise here

:24:20. > :24:24.at the ExCel Arena in the London Docklands. It has been a sell-out

:24:24. > :24:30.crowd for every single session of boxing, and this is the 24th

:24:30. > :24:36.session, an historic day, the first time ever that women are competing

:24:36. > :24:42.in the boxing at the Olympic Games. And this is a gold medal bout. What

:24:42. > :24:46.a stunning right cross from Nicola Adams! What an amazing shot. If

:24:46. > :24:51.that has not caught the eye of the judges, I do not know what will.

:24:52. > :24:55.That's beautiful! Cancan has gone to the canvas! That was a

:24:55. > :24:59.legitimate knock-down, the count will be issued. Remember, in

:24:59. > :25:03.Olympic boxing, it is only one point. As we approach the closing

:25:03. > :25:08.30 seconds of this second-round, with the momentum very much in

:25:08. > :25:14.favour of Nicola Adams. She is the boxer in the ascendancy. If she can

:25:14. > :25:17.retain her concentration, Ren Cancan, the reigning world number 1

:25:17. > :25:27.and world champion, will have a significant deficit to try to claw

:25:27. > :25:30.

:25:30. > :25:34.back in the final two rounds. Good single right from Adams. She cannot

:25:34. > :25:38.afford to get as excited as we are. She has got to keep our discipline,

:25:38. > :25:43.keep her hands high, not give away any silly shots. This is a

:25:43. > :25:50.brilliant performance from Adams. As the bell sounds to bring the end

:25:50. > :26:00.of round two, Nicola Adams has extended her advantage. It now

:26:00. > :26:01.

:26:01. > :26:09.stands at five. Plenty of time. Great stuff, great stuff. Level

:26:09. > :26:17.three up. This was the flurry at the beginning of the round, my

:26:17. > :26:24.goodness! Repeated, solid straight shots, snapping back the head of

:26:24. > :26:34.her opponent. Beautiful right hand. Steps back, and comes in with a

:26:34. > :26:44.

:26:44. > :26:53.beautiful one-two. Unbelievable. What a great shot. The RONALD

:26:53. > :26:57.MCINTOSH: So, the top two boxers in the world at 51km step into the

:26:57. > :27:01.ring once again. And once again, it has been a great

:27:01. > :27:04.start to the round from Nicola Adams, wearing blue. She temporary

:27:04. > :27:12.lost her balance, but she is scoring effectively off the back

:27:12. > :27:16.foot. Ren Cancan needs to change our tactics, trailing by five with

:27:16. > :27:20.just two rounds of boxing to go. She is noticeably more aggressive,

:27:20. > :27:24.attempting to get onto the front foot, to take the contest to Adams,

:27:24. > :27:29.who's continuing to boxed beautifully, able to measure the

:27:29. > :27:34.distance with that left jab. Yes, Cancan is still very much a danger

:27:34. > :27:37.woman, however. You can see her hand speed. Adams needs to keep our

:27:37. > :27:43.discipline, and just kick-boxing the way she has been doing. It is

:27:54. > :27:54.

:27:54. > :28:02.these boxers received byes in the opening round, by virtue of their

:28:02. > :28:07.seeding. In the two bouts they have each had since, they have been

:28:07. > :28:11.masterful, winning without getting out of second gear. But with the

:28:11. > :28:15.Olympic gold medal at stake, both of them have brought their a game,

:28:15. > :28:20.they have both prepared diligently, there can be no excuses, and both

:28:20. > :28:23.are executing at the very top of their game, but it is Adams who has

:28:23. > :28:27.a significant advantage as we come towards the final 30 seconds of the

:28:27. > :28:36.third round. Adams knows that she is building up an even bigger lead.

:28:36. > :28:41.You can see her tactics changing. Just a little bit scrappy there.

:28:41. > :28:50.Shuffling left and right, just to keep out of the way. Adams

:28:50. > :28:54.countering beautifully there. Cancan in danger of walking onto

:28:54. > :29:04.shots, as she attempts to pursue Adams. And the lead has extended

:29:04. > :29:04.

:29:04. > :29:11.even further! It is now up to nine points! Well, can we believe it?

:29:11. > :29:16.Let's just listen to the corner... Can we believe that Nicola Adams is

:29:16. > :29:21.boxing the former world champion, beating her 14-5? Yes, we can,

:29:21. > :29:26.because we have seen some tremendous flurries by Adams. This

:29:26. > :29:36.was a beautiful right hand, and Cancan is just punching the air,

:29:36. > :29:53.

:29:53. > :29:57.As we move into the fourth and final round of this women's 51km

:29:57. > :30:06.flyweight final, only two minutes stands between Nicola Adams,

:30:06. > :30:10.wearing blue, and the Olympic immortality. She is leading the

:30:10. > :30:20.reigning World Championship gold- medallist, Ren Cancan of China, by

:30:20. > :30:23.

:30:23. > :30:27.14-5. Unless Ren Cancan can bring about a punch to bring about a

:30:27. > :30:31.finish and take Adams down to the canvas, one would suspect that

:30:31. > :30:35.Nicola Adams is on her way to Olympic gold. Concentration will be

:30:35. > :30:39.absolutely crucial for Adams. She does not want to let the occasion

:30:39. > :30:42.get to her, she will have to stay in the moment. She landed a good

:30:42. > :30:47.left hook at close quarters there. She will not want to be thinking

:30:47. > :30:52.about the outcome. Her focus must remain absolute on the task in hand.

:30:52. > :30:56.This is absolutely admirable discipline, which Adams is

:30:56. > :31:00.demonstrating now. She knows she has got a comfortable lead, but she

:31:00. > :31:04.is maintaining a very tight guard, picking her shots. That was a

:31:04. > :31:08.really good right hand once again. She is not being complacent, she is

:31:08. > :31:15.keeping her hands nice and high, she knows that Ren Cancan remains a

:31:15. > :31:20.danger, right to the last bell. Nicola Adams began boxing at the

:31:20. > :31:24.age of 12. She struggled to find opponents, it was her mother who

:31:24. > :31:28.took her down to an after-school club in Leeds, and while her mother

:31:28. > :31:33.was doing aerobics, Nicola Adams was getting inside a boxing ring

:31:33. > :31:40.and trying it out. It was there that her other-worldly talent was

:31:40. > :31:44.first discovered. Here she is now, on the cusp of becoming the first

:31:44. > :31:54.ever Olympic woman boxer. Just seconds away, and the crowd begin

:31:54. > :31:58.to count it down by clapping their hands and stomping their feet! The

:31:58. > :32:05.Ali Be shuffle from Adams, and as the closing bell sounds, she

:32:05. > :32:13.produces a fast Lorig, to underline her superiority! And now, the

:32:13. > :32:16.celebrations begin in earnest, because there is no doubt in the

:32:16. > :32:25.Great Britain corner that Nicola Adams has just made history, by

:32:25. > :32:31.brilliantly boxing her way to the first ever Women's a limpet Boxing

:32:31. > :32:37.title. Her coach congratulating his charge, and didn't she boxed

:32:37. > :32:43.brilliantly, from first to last? Three contests these two had fought

:32:43. > :32:46.previously, and it was Ren Cancan who held the advantage, including

:32:46. > :32:51.the last two World Championships. But that did not make a blind bit

:32:51. > :33:01.of difference, Adams came good when it mattered most, and surely this

:33:01. > :33:05.

:33:05. > :33:15.announcement is about to crown her Ladies and gentlemen, the winner,

:33:15. > :33:16.

:33:16. > :33:22.by a score of 16-7, and the Olympic champion, in the blue corner,

:33:22. > :33:27.representing Great Britain, Nicola Adams!

:33:27. > :33:32.Nicola Adams of Great Britain has just made sporting history! She is

:33:32. > :33:40.the first Olympic boxing champion in history in the women's

:33:40. > :33:43.tournament! And it is sheer delight for the 29-year-old from Leeds, who

:33:43. > :33:48.has conquered the boxer who was previously her nemesis. She

:33:48. > :33:53.produced a commanding display, from first round to last, and what a

:33:53. > :33:56.place to do it, what a stage on which to do it, in this magnificent

:33:56. > :34:01.amphitheatre of boxing. Nicola Adams is the Olympic champion! When

:34:01. > :34:04.she began boxing at the age of 12, the possibility of emulating her

:34:04. > :34:14.Olympic heroes Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali were but a distant

:34:14. > :34:15.

:34:15. > :34:19.dream. But now, not only is it a reality, she has just, over four

:34:19. > :34:26.two-minute rounds, guaranteed herself a place in a Olympic

:34:26. > :34:34.sporting history as the greatest Olympic female boxer in history.

:34:34. > :34:42.Well done, Nicola Adams! Olympic champion, many

:34:43. > :34:48.congratulations - how does that sound? Fairly good! It is a dream

:34:48. > :34:55.come true, you know? I have wanted this all my life. I have finally

:34:55. > :34:59.done it. All the support, you know, it has really made my day.

:34:59. > :35:04.knocked her down in the second round, and you were on your way.

:35:04. > :35:08.Definitely. It is just one of those things, it just happened. I would

:35:08. > :35:13.like to thank all the supporters here, all the supporters back home.

:35:13. > :35:17.I have brought that gold medal back to Leeds. Talking of which, we have

:35:17. > :35:23.got to let you go, shortly you're going to go and get it - what will

:35:23. > :35:33.that feeling be like? Absolutely amazing, to see the flag lifted, I

:35:33. > :35:39.

:35:39. > :35:44.Unbelievable scenes here at the ExCel, everyone on their feet, but

:35:44. > :35:49.now on their feet and cheering in the Katie Taylor. Look at this all

:35:49. > :35:52.around me. This was the hottest ticket of the Games. They all

:35:52. > :35:59.wanted to come here, because they knew they had a favourite for gold

:35:59. > :36:07.here. We go from Nicola Adams, who wins Great Britain's first boxing

:36:07. > :36:12.medal for women, to Katie Taylor, at 26, Ireland's biggest hope for

:36:12. > :36:17.gold. Incredible chanting or around, and they expect. What a performance

:36:17. > :36:22.for me gladdens to beat the five- time world champion and then to

:36:22. > :36:27.come here, and beaten the world No. 1 -- what a performance from Nicola

:36:27. > :36:33.Adams. She was so quick, so agile, so confident. Her face was just lit

:36:33. > :36:43.up with joy afterwards. Now we will be enjoying and expecting a

:36:43. > :36:45.

:36:45. > :36:51.wonderful display from Katie Taylor. COMMENTATOR: Of the crowd he are in

:36:51. > :36:54.absolute rapture. Because Katie Taylor, the four-time world

:36:54. > :37:00.championship gold medallist and pawn and the No. 1 seed, is about

:37:00. > :37:10.to engage in battle once again with her great rival, and No. 2 seed,

:37:10. > :37:46.

:37:46. > :37:50.So the referee, making a final check on the equipment, the clubs,

:37:50. > :38:00.the gumshield, everything correct and in place. And now this women's

:38:00. > :38:04.

:38:04. > :38:09.60 kilogram lightweight final, is And when Katie Taylor takes the

:38:09. > :38:13.boxing ring to demonstrate her vast array of skills, the entire nation

:38:13. > :38:21.comes to a standstill. You can guarantee that all eyes across the

:38:21. > :38:25.nation will be glued to their TV sets, looking to see whether Katie

:38:25. > :38:30.Taylor, who has proved absolutely superior to all her rivals on the

:38:30. > :38:40.global stage, whether she can add an integral to the four world

:38:40. > :38:44.

:38:44. > :38:53.championships and five European The top two seeds in the tournament,

:38:53. > :38:58.doing battle. A tentative style -- started from the orthodox and the

:38:58. > :39:02.southpaw, just getting an idea about each other. They are not

:39:02. > :39:07.unfamiliar with each other, having met on numerous occasions in the

:39:07. > :39:14.past. Katie has won the majority of these bouts, but she got caught

:39:14. > :39:17.with a left hand from Ochigava. This is a rematch of the most

:39:17. > :39:25.recent world championship final of just a few months ago. On that

:39:25. > :39:30.occasion, it was Taylor who prevailed en route to her first off

:39:30. > :39:38.-- for the title. Ochigava has released some statements to the

:39:38. > :39:44.press saying that Katie Taylor's dominance means that she already

:39:44. > :39:53.starts 10 points ahead Foster perhaps trying to plant some seeds

:39:53. > :39:57.of doubt into the mindset of the judges. Blistering punch pace, but

:39:57. > :40:05.Katie, as you say, getting the best out of that last sequence, catching

:40:05. > :40:15.the eye of the judges, I am sure. Relatively even in this first-round.

:40:15. > :40:17.

:40:17. > :40:27.What a right hand just before the At the end of that round, the score

:40:27. > :40:34.

:40:34. > :40:39.Some positive comments and there from her father and coach, saying

:40:39. > :40:46.she is doing brilliantly. What he wants her to do is throw that Body

:40:46. > :40:56.Shop, and finished it with the left hook to the head. Katie, landing a

:40:56. > :41:09.

:41:09. > :41:14.Into the second round we go of this women's 60 kilogram lightweight

:41:14. > :41:17.Olympic final between the number one seed, the four-time and

:41:17. > :41:23.reigning world championship gold medallist, Katie Taylor, wearing

:41:23. > :41:33.red, representing Ireland. Her opponent is her arch-rival, with

:41:33. > :41:33.

:41:33. > :41:39.the southpaw stance, number two, Ochigava. A really tight,

:41:39. > :41:42.competitive opening round, as you would expect. Just trying to draw

:41:42. > :41:46.an opening from the opposition. this is the key, they both have to

:41:46. > :41:55.try and draw each other on so they can counter each other. Very

:41:55. > :42:01.accomplished character boxes. -- counter. She just needs to listen

:42:01. > :42:09.to her father. She knows that Ochigava is vulnerable on that left

:42:09. > :42:14.hook. A good left-hander from Ochigava, another impersonation of

:42:14. > :42:19.the Ali shuffle. Cassius Clay rose to prominence in the Olympic ring,

:42:19. > :42:25.of course, in 1960, and what an inspiration he has proved to be

:42:25. > :42:29.down the years for boxes both male and female. As we stand here, on

:42:29. > :42:36.this historic day of the Olympic boxing finals, how many youngsters

:42:36. > :42:40.will take inspiration from these boxes? Competing on the highest

:42:40. > :42:46.stage of all, in front of a crowd that is absolutely enthralled by

:42:46. > :42:53.the spectacle taking place in front of them. Two quick right hands

:42:53. > :42:57.landed by Katie Taylor. The crowd, voicing their displeasure at the

:42:57. > :43:03.intelligent tactics being applied by Ochigava as the Irish heroine

:43:03. > :43:07.was impeded from doing her work. She needs to be careful here,

:43:07. > :43:12.Ochigava, the referee has an eye on her. She doesn't want to be

:43:12. > :43:17.employing the holding tactics too obviously. She may be subject to a

:43:17. > :43:24.caution. And for the first time, the No. 1 seed, Katie Taylor, is

:43:24. > :43:34.trailing at the end of the second round. The score is a 4-3 in favour

:43:34. > :43:41.

:43:41. > :43:45.Furious instructions in both corners there. Katie is just

:43:45. > :43:52.getting caught with that signature check hook which Ochigava is so

:43:52. > :44:02.known for. She tries to come back with her Riyak hand, and Ochigava

:44:02. > :44:13.

:44:13. > :44:17.As we move into the third round of this a women's 60 kilogram

:44:17. > :44:23.lightweight final, the boxer wearing red, representing Ireland,

:44:23. > :44:28.K Taylor, the world No. 1, four- time world champion, is trailing

:44:28. > :44:34.her arch-rival from Russia, by two. But what a cracking right cross,

:44:34. > :44:41.following a blazing jabber. Ochigava was keen to hold on.

:44:41. > :44:48.Beautiful shot there. She just needs to throat the right hand to

:44:48. > :44:54.the body, that will take out that check left hook. Kate Taylor's

:44:54. > :44:59.first bout here in the Olympic Games, the decibel level here at

:44:59. > :45:05.London's Docklands was measured at 113.7, louder than a jumbo jet

:45:05. > :45:08.taking off. Another cracking combination, the crowd are doing

:45:09. > :45:16.their best to lift their box, because she was trailing by one of

:45:16. > :45:26.the end of the second round. -- lift their boxer. She has responded

:45:26. > :45:26.

:45:26. > :45:30.Katie, beginning to settle a little bit more now. She is doing what she

:45:30. > :45:36.does so beautifully, which is to throw fast, swift combinations,

:45:36. > :45:46.getting her feet in and getting them out. Ochigava, in pursuit of

:45:46. > :45:53.

:45:53. > :46:00.power. The referee having to issue Naughty! Ochigava just let Taylor

:46:00. > :46:06.have one around the ribs. We are into the final 30 seconds. The

:46:06. > :46:16.concentration of both boxers remains absolute. Taylor was caught

:46:16. > :46:18.

:46:18. > :46:22.in two minds, almost Art, she Much better by Taylor here. She is

:46:22. > :46:27.getting in and out without getting caught on the counter. This is her

:46:27. > :46:33.boxing, this is where she is at home. And this is what she means to

:46:33. > :46:38.do to overcome -- needs to do to overcome Ochigava and her account

:46:38. > :46:43.the boxing style. As the bell sounds, at the conclusion of the

:46:43. > :46:47.third round, look at the reaction of the Irish fans in attendance.

:46:47. > :46:57.What does signify is is that their poster girl, their amateur boxing

:46:57. > :47:09.

:47:09. > :47:14.superstar, has taken a two-point Relax, says Peter in the corner

:47:14. > :47:20.there. Not as easy to do as you would think in this Olympic boxing

:47:20. > :47:24.final! Very difficult to relax, but Taylor is a consummate professional.

:47:24. > :47:34.She will not consider the score, she will box as disciplined and

:47:34. > :47:37.

:47:37. > :47:44.professionally as she can till the Sir Steve Redgrave, in attendance.

:47:44. > :47:49.As we begin this 4th and final round of this lightweight final,

:47:49. > :47:55.Ireland's Katie Taylor, the best boxer in the world, the reigning

:47:55. > :48:04.world championship gold medallist. She Stansted two minutes away from

:48:04. > :48:09.Olympic gold medal glory. She responded like a champion does.

:48:09. > :48:16.What a brilliant round of boxing she produced to outscore her arch-

:48:16. > :48:19.rival from Russia by a score of four points to one. The tactics

:48:19. > :48:25.were no doubt change from Ochigava, she will have to take the contest

:48:25. > :48:33.to Taylor, but Taylor's for at work is so sublime, she is staying out

:48:34. > :48:41.of harm's -- harm's way. Ochigava would prefer to sit on the back

:48:42. > :48:47.foot, but she can work on the front foot as well. Taylor catches

:48:47. > :48:52.Ochigava were a flying left hook there. We have passed the halfway

:48:52. > :49:01.stage in this 4th and final round. Katie Taylor has heeded the

:49:01. > :49:07.instructions of her coach to 80. He was an Irish amateur champion. It

:49:07. > :49:15.was his a shadow-boxing in the kitchen at home where Katie Taylor

:49:15. > :49:21.first absorbed her lover for this board. -- this bought. She lands a

:49:21. > :49:26.beautiful right hand. Who knew that prodigious talent would take her to

:49:26. > :49:31.the very pinnacle of the women's amateur game? It wasn't even an

:49:31. > :49:36.Olympic sport when she began boxing. She stands here now on the cusp of

:49:36. > :49:46.a Olympic gold medal glory. She continues to boxed brilliantly as

:49:46. > :49:52.

:49:52. > :49:57.we approach the final bell. But as Forcing her to move her feet.

:49:57. > :50:02.Ochigava struggling to find a shot to register with the judges. De

:50:02. > :50:07.Kraupp are counting down the final seconds. -- of the crowd are

:50:07. > :50:10.counting down the final seconds. Katie Taylor beats her chest in

:50:10. > :50:14.celebration and receives a cuddle from her coaching team, because

:50:14. > :50:22.they can be no doubt that the woman who was the best boxer in the world

:50:22. > :50:26.has done enough. She has overcome her arch-rival from Russia, Sofia

:50:27. > :50:32.Ochigava, who gave it how all, and was in the lead after two rounds,

:50:32. > :50:36.but Katie Taylor responded as a champion should. She dug deep to

:50:36. > :50:42.have an advantage going into the 4th and final round. She maintained

:50:42. > :50:47.her concentration, and surely that is enough to see her crown as the

:50:47. > :50:52.inaugural Olympic women's lightweight champion. In a nation

:50:53. > :51:02.where boxing is revered, Katie Taylor stands on at the cusp of

:51:02. > :51:07.joining the Irish boxing immortals. The crowd continuing to GM and clap

:51:07. > :51:17.and anticipation. And what must be going through her mind -- Shia and

:51:17. > :51:19.

:51:19. > :51:23.Ochigava gave all in what was a fantastic contest. They will

:51:23. > :51:30.provide the pomp and pageantry of a party and supported Katie Taylor

:51:30. > :51:33.with the purpose of a pilgrimage. Thousands made their way to The

:51:33. > :51:40.Excel Arena and will find out if there punching poster girl will be

:51:40. > :51:46.crowned the Olympic champion. Ladies and gentlemen, the winner,

:51:46. > :51:53.by a score of 10-8, and Olympic champion, in the red corner,

:51:53. > :51:57.representing Ireland, Katie Taylor! Katie Taylor collapses to the

:51:57. > :52:05.canvas in absolute delight. She has just been crowned the Olympic

:52:05. > :52:11.champion. The culmination of a lifetime of work. She learned the

:52:11. > :52:18.noble art by copying her father, Peter, who is giving her a hug and

:52:18. > :52:25.the red corner. The fans in the XL arena are in rapture. -- The Excel

:52:25. > :52:33.Arena. She now takes the time to acknowledge the crowd who supported

:52:33. > :52:36.her without hesitation and without failure through the course of those

:52:36. > :52:40.four rounds, and perhaps the magnitude of the achievement is

:52:40. > :52:44.just beginning to sink in. Katie Taylor, the four-time world

:52:44. > :52:49.champion, five-time European champion, dances with delight,

:52:49. > :52:54.having just been crowned as the first ever women's Olympic

:52:54. > :52:59.lightweight champion. She has made history. She drapes herself in the

:52:59. > :53:05.Irish flag and as a lap of honour around the ring as she joins the

:53:06. > :53:09.Irish boxing immortals, in a country where boxing tradition or

:53:09. > :53:12.runs deep and rich, she stands at the pinnacle of Irish boxing

:53:12. > :53:22.achievement, becoming just the second Olympic champion he in Irish

:53:22. > :53:29.

:53:29. > :53:34.This moment belongs to Katie Taylor, Ireland's favourite boxing daughter,

:53:34. > :53:39.having just been crowned Olympic champions and the ovation is

:53:40. > :53:45.carrying her towards the zone where she will meet the world's media.

:53:45. > :53:49.The world No. 1, she overcame the deficit in the third round, and

:53:49. > :53:54.responded, as champions do, by digging deep and finding something

:53:54. > :54:04.extra, adapting her tactics and strategy. But we should make note

:54:04. > :54:09.of Sofia Ochigava who provided a wonderful contest. But Katie Taylor,

:54:09. > :54:14.what a moment for her. And you suspect that this accomplishment

:54:14. > :54:21.are becoming the first Olympic women's lightweight champion will

:54:21. > :54:26.surpass everything she has achieved combined to this point in her

:54:26. > :54:32.career. A wonderful moment, and one that will live with Katie Taylor

:54:32. > :54:40.forever. She is the inaugural women's Olympic lightweight

:54:40. > :54:45.champion. And I promise you, you have never heard anything like it.

:54:45. > :54:49.This Irish crowd have bought out the Excel Arena today. There are

:54:49. > :54:55.people in green, with Irish flags, all of them jumping up to celebrate

:54:55. > :55:01.the victory of Katie Taylor who was embraced by Barry McGuigan as she

:55:01. > :55:08.left the ring. What an appropriate gold medal for both of them. Like I

:55:08. > :55:13.said earlier, Nicola is stronger, faster. She did everything right in

:55:13. > :55:18.that about. She stayed calm and even when she knew she was ahead,

:55:18. > :55:22.listened to her corner, and it was Nicola's time and I had no doubt

:55:22. > :55:28.after the way she had been training and all the effort you put in, the

:55:28. > :55:33.ups and downs, it was Nicola's time and I'm so happy for women's boxing

:55:33. > :55:37.and her. It has been a fabulous late afternoon. A gold medal for

:55:37. > :55:41.Ireland, the first of the Games, and in the space of half an hour, a

:55:41. > :55:47.gold medal in dress arch and the first-ever gold medal in women's

:55:47. > :55:51.boxing which was quite a contrast - - dressage. Summing up the Olympic

:55:51. > :55:56.spirit there. Negative comments prior to the game's about whether

:55:56. > :56:00.women's boxing should be here, well, no more doubt, because those fights,

:56:00. > :56:05.where we saw masterclasses of speed, power and technical ability, what

:56:05. > :56:10.an advert for women's boxing. Women's galore -- medals galore,

:56:10. > :56:16.possibly, because here is Jade Jones in the semi-final of the tae

:56:16. > :56:26.kwon do but she is up against it against the world No. 1, Chen of

:56:26. > :56:32.

:56:33. > :56:37.China. Let's see if she can get The woman from Chinese Taipei

:56:37. > :56:47.standing between Jade Jones and the Olympic guaranteed a medal. The

:56:47. > :56:49.

:56:49. > :56:57.loser will get the opportunity to go for runs at the end of the day.

:56:57. > :57:00.Tseng in blue. Jade Jones in red. She was European bronze medallist

:57:00. > :57:10.in Manchester a few months ago, but this is a different level and a

:57:10. > :57:14.Jade Jones already behind against the No. 1 seed in the world. She

:57:14. > :57:21.got her Olympic place in style, beating the Olympic champion in

:57:21. > :57:25.qualifying. You do not get much tougher than her. Starting

:57:25. > :57:32.explosively, picking up the Popper let -- top leg and popping it into

:57:32. > :57:36.the body to take a 1-0 lead. But Jade Jones is capable of every shot

:57:37. > :57:42.in the book and will have to fight her heart out today. We do know the

:57:42. > :57:50.Jade Jones is four of heart. has rapidly become the finest from

:57:50. > :57:55.Flint. That is what she was dumped by the people who provided the

:57:55. > :58:02.money to send her to the junior Olympics, and they will be watching

:58:02. > :58:10.and thinking it is money well spent. But she is behind early on. It is

:58:10. > :58:15.made up of two three-minute rounds. There is the counter, the front leg,

:58:15. > :58:20.closest to the opponent. We refer to it as the front leg. Every time

:58:20. > :58:27.Jade Jones moves in, she picks up with great accuracy. That is the

:58:27. > :58:30.difference so far. The two fighters have never actually met, so it will

:58:30. > :58:36.have all been about the research beforehand and what they could have

:58:36. > :58:41.learnt about the woman from Chinese Taipei. They knew how good she was,

:58:41. > :58:46.and Jade Jones, two points down in the first round. Just getting

:58:46. > :58:56.caught on the hop. Tries to get her friend Lady in, but she also

:58:56. > :58:57.

:58:57. > :59:01.grabbed her leg on the way in and took that first score. Korean is

:59:01. > :59:05.the language of choice and the sport given that it was a bunch of

:59:05. > :59:09.Koreans in the 1950s together the various strands of centuries old

:59:09. > :59:19.martial arts and brought them together into this that we now know

:59:19. > :59:20.

:59:20. > :59:24.The ice pack to call down the head, because deep lines of very hot.

:59:24. > :59:31.Keep cool under pressure, that is what Jade Jones is coach will be

:59:31. > :59:35.saying. Jade Jones are very much in the match that has to calm down for

:59:35. > :59:44.a minute and keep her composure. Every time Jade Jones moves into

:59:44. > :59:49.the distance, her front leg picks up the shot to the body. The

:59:49. > :59:57.scoring shot, plus the leg hold, there is the ground. You are not

:59:57. > :00:03.allowed to hold your opponent. The Taipei's coach delighted with her

:00:03. > :00:13.work so far, and she is good value for it. A wonder if Jade Jones's

:00:13. > :00:14.

:00:15. > :00:20.father can care to take his seat What would you do if your daughter

:00:20. > :00:26.was fighting in an Olympic final? Could you watch? A incredible

:00:26. > :00:31.tension. It would be hard to set aside the emotion. She scores this

:00:31. > :00:34.time, Nick. He fears wandering around, that Shea will cheer him up,

:00:34. > :00:39.because -- if he is wandering around, the cheering will cheer him

:00:39. > :00:45.up, because that is her first call other semi-final. That is the value

:00:45. > :00:55.of keeping it can't. 2-One is nothing at this stage. -- that is

:00:55. > :01:13.

:01:13. > :01:18.Approaching the halfway point of this three round semi-final inside

:01:18. > :01:21.The Excel, the vast conference centre that has crippled --

:01:22. > :01:28.sprinkle some medal magic on the judo players. Maybe there is some

:01:28. > :01:31.dust left for the tae kwon do competitors. It is the front leg

:01:31. > :01:36.again at that is jabbing out and giving Jade Jones cause for concern.

:01:36. > :01:43.That is why she's taking her time, and she is right to do so. She has

:01:43. > :01:50.to be patient and try and draw that high pay female into hers alone. --

:01:50. > :01:55.that high pay female. -- the Chinese Taipei female. We can see

:01:55. > :02:00.how hard Jade Jones is grieving. The number of tae kwon do fighters

:02:00. > :02:03.to say it is not about the physical aspect, it is about technique and

:02:03. > :02:11.intelligence and strategy. You're going nowhere without the right

:02:11. > :02:16.strategy, and that is what we are seeing here. It is like a game of

:02:16. > :02:26.Risk played out on a rubber mat, eight metres by eight. With someone

:02:26. > :02:33.trying to knock your head off, That round belonged to Jade Jones.

:02:33. > :02:40.She scored the only point. She followed her brother into the sport

:02:41. > :02:44.as a nine-year-old, but Jade Jones, as an eight-year-old, followed her

:02:44. > :02:47.grandfather in to a tae kwon do gym. She was introduced to a lot of

:02:47. > :02:52.other sports and was not bothered by them, but when she saw tae kwon

:02:52. > :02:58.do, she thought to look interesting. Trying to kick somebody's head off?

:02:58. > :03:01.I will try and have a bit of that! It has been the body work from the

:03:01. > :03:10.Chinese Taipei athlete. A good response from Jade Jones as she

:03:10. > :03:18.came straight out. Paul Green, the world silver medallist. He is her

:03:18. > :03:22.coach here. A world championship silver for his charge in Korea last

:03:22. > :03:26.year. This is just about the most important two minutes of Jade

:03:26. > :03:30.Jones's life. If he can be a good one, she will be an Olympic

:03:30. > :03:40.finalist at the end of it. Only a point behind, but she is playing

:03:40. > :03:41.

:03:41. > :03:51.the best in the world. Again, using the front leg to do the back kick.

:03:51. > :03:55.

:03:55. > :04:05.Banshee is level! -- and she is Jones was two points down, but now

:04:05. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:12.Just retreating into her shell, stuck in the corner of the ring.

:04:12. > :04:20.Jones, for the first time, changing the dynamic and trying to go for

:04:20. > :04:30.the head shot. To just over one minutes to go. This is a time for

:04:30. > :04:35.

:04:35. > :04:39.As soon as the referee called them back, she was back to work. But

:04:39. > :04:46.Jones was very, very close. In fact, the chair umpires have raised a

:04:46. > :04:50.hand. Was that a 0.4 Jones? Were they looking at something her

:04:50. > :04:54.opponent did? And Paul Green comes in with his little red card which

:04:54. > :05:04.will get the video officials having a look at perhaps what the chair

:05:04. > :05:13.

:05:13. > :05:23.a red card could be very bad news. In taekwondo, it could be very good

:05:23. > :05:28.

:05:28. > :05:35.news. Jones reacted instantly. That was a flick to the chain. She felt

:05:35. > :05:45.she had got it. There is a replay of that being shown inside the

:05:45. > :05:49.arena as well. Rarely has so much depended on three men looking at a

:05:49. > :05:55.computer screen. There is a question as to whether she was

:05:56. > :06:05.close enough Fen or if it fell short. It is going to be a matter

:06:06. > :06:06.

:06:06. > :06:10.of millimetres. Memories inevitably drawn back to what happened to

:06:10. > :06:19.Sarah Stevenson in Beijing four years ago when she missed out and

:06:19. > :06:24.it was eventually brought back in. The officials are looking to see if

:06:24. > :06:32.there is a tiny bit of Jade Jones' effort which caught the face of Li-

:06:32. > :06:42.Cheng. The decision is that there was not. It is more than that, they

:06:42. > :06:43.

:06:43. > :06:49.have given the 0.2 Li-Cheng. It is level-pegging. Jade Jones is a head

:06:49. > :06:59.for the first time. Now it is time to clear the head and mount the

:06:59. > :07:02.

:07:02. > :07:06.Defence says. It is 5-34 Jade Jones. 15 seconds to go. Jade Jones from

:07:06. > :07:10.North Wales on the brink of an Olympic final, but now it is time

:07:10. > :07:16.for the blue card to be brought in and this means that the Chinese

:07:16. > :07:26.coach thinks she has seen something that might work in Li-Cheng's

:07:26. > :07:31.

:07:31. > :07:36.favour. There has been so much going on. Jade Jones has sneaked

:07:36. > :07:43.ahead at 5-3. Let's see what the trio of adjudicators will come up

:07:43. > :07:53.with. You are behind with 15 seconds to go, you might as well

:07:53. > :08:00.play your hand and see if anything comes of it. That was a push, just

:08:00. > :08:07.touching the mouth. That could change the dynamic of this match.

:08:07. > :08:14.will be behind because a kick to the head is worth three points and

:08:14. > :08:24.her lead his two. This is an able demonstration of how important

:08:24. > :08:30.these video cards are. If you play them in the right way, you can

:08:30. > :08:40.change the course of a match. Jones is ahead and she is three

:08:40. > :08:41.

:08:41. > :08:47.points ahead. Li-Cheng has lost her head completely. As she charged end,

:08:47. > :08:56.Jade Jones knocked it off. Time for a little foot of sand which at

:08:56. > :09:06.teatime. She has done it. She is an Olympic finalist. She has got her

:09:06. > :09:13.eye on silver or gold. If there has been a final moment in the history

:09:13. > :09:17.of taekwondo in this country, none of us have ever seen it. What a

:09:17. > :09:21.little treasure Jade Jones from Wales is. She is guaranteed a

:09:22. > :09:27.silver or a cold and that will be the best ever performance by a

:09:27. > :09:32.Briton at an Olympic Games. found this part and the shot that

:09:33. > :09:38.was needed and went straight upstairs when it was required.

:09:38. > :09:46.Forget about the controversy of the video replay. She maintained her

:09:46. > :09:52.composure and she changed the game. The most difficult skill in

:09:52. > :10:01.taekwondo is to go upstairs and get the three-point shot. The attempted

:10:01. > :10:11.reverse of Li-Cheng just missing. We should soon see the head shot.

:10:11. > :10:13.

:10:13. > :10:17.That was it. Right across the eyeball and into the semi-final.

:10:17. > :10:27.he was pacing outside, he can now come back in because his daughter

:10:27. > :10:48.

:10:48. > :10:55.get here, and it was small businesses in her home town of Lent

:10:55. > :11:01.that helped her get here. She could end up with a gold tonight. She has

:11:01. > :11:07.put out the favourite and is into the final. That is at 10:15pm

:11:07. > :11:12.tonight. But another Brit is about to enter the arena, Martin Stamper.

:11:12. > :11:17.It was heartbreak for him in Beijing four years ago when a knee

:11:17. > :11:21.injury kept him out. This is his first Olympics and he is through to

:11:21. > :11:31.the semi-final, but he is up against the favourite to take the

:11:31. > :11:34.

:11:34. > :11:41.title. The bronze medallist from Beijing and the reigning world

:11:41. > :11:49.champion, double European champion. He is facing a 25 year-old

:11:50. > :11:54.Liverpudlian, Martin Stamper. He is on a bit of a role himself. He had

:11:54. > :11:59.a great year, bronze at the end of the European Championships held in

:11:59. > :12:05.Manchester in May. It is perhaps an indication of how his expectations

:12:05. > :12:15.have risen is the bronze was not what he was looking for. No, he was

:12:15. > :12:20.on track for a gold. He was up against this man in the world

:12:20. > :12:27.championship semi-final, but he was on the end of a bit of a beating

:12:27. > :12:32.because this young man turned it on. But he has beaten him and it is a

:12:32. > :12:42.one apiece for these two fighters. If there was ever a time before

:12:42. > :12:46.

:12:46. > :12:50.Martin to turn it on, it has got to be today. The Turk is looking for

:12:50. > :12:57.what would be the crowning achievement of his career. He has

:12:57. > :13:06.got every medal there is apart from this one. It is a sport full of

:13:06. > :13:16.ritual. It befits its 2000 year history. It is time to put the

:13:16. > :13:18.

:13:18. > :13:28.crash helmets on before they try and knock each other's block off.

:13:28. > :13:29.

:13:29. > :13:39.The Olympic semi-final. In the Blue is a Turk, and in the red is a

:13:39. > :14:12.

:14:12. > :14:19.They are continuing to size each other up, to work out how close

:14:19. > :14:27.they can get. It is interesting to note the stance both have chosen

:14:27. > :14:33.here, and open stance, offering the front of the body it. Martin knows

:14:33. > :14:43.that his opponent's back kick is the most dangerous shot. He has got

:14:43. > :15:03.

:15:03. > :15:13.three points for connecting with by this man. That is an indication

:15:13. > :15:14.

:15:14. > :15:23.of what he is trying to overturn. He took his European Championship

:15:23. > :15:29.in Manchester and he barely broke sweat, the Turk. Martin Stamper has

:15:29. > :15:36.the agility and the quickness, but he has to be very careful. If you

:15:36. > :15:41.rush in taekwondo, you never get the chance to do it again. That has

:15:41. > :15:48.been a very challenging first round for Martin Stamper. He is showing

:15:48. > :15:51.why he is just one of the greatest exponents of this sport. It is a

:15:51. > :15:56.bit like Murray and Federer. You are looking at one of the best

:15:56. > :16:01.athletes in his sport. Martin Stamper is a young athlete, up and

:16:01. > :16:10.coming. But he has not done anything wrong, other than drop his

:16:10. > :16:20.guard on a couple of occasions. That was a jumping shot kick.

:16:20. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :17:01.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:17:01. > :17:07.Perfectly executed. Balletic skill. time. And his confidence is up. He

:17:07. > :17:17.has to remind his opponent that he is in a fight. He has to stamp his

:17:17. > :17:29.

:17:29. > :17:34.is also about the blocking. They are really busy, trying to fend off

:17:34. > :17:44.the attacks. That would have been a two-point shot because of the

:17:44. > :17:44.

:17:44. > :18:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:18:43. > :18:50.it, but such is the sport's that opponent in for the reverse kick.

:18:50. > :18:54.But the Turk is so languid and free and loose in his movement. Apart

:18:54. > :19:04.from his athletic aerial ability, he has the ability to change the

:19:04. > :19:14.angles. It is ballroom dancing with menace, isn't it? Strictly with a

:19:14. > :19:17.

:19:17. > :19:22.little bit of pain attached to the end of the foot. That is how

:19:22. > :19:26.exhausted he is. We have talked about the unique conditions in the

:19:26. > :19:36.Excel Arena. The lights are much brighter than you would get when

:19:36. > :19:40.you are travelling around the world. It has taken it out of the fighters.

:19:40. > :19:47.It was an early start this morning, not long after 9 o'clock this

:19:47. > :19:53.morning. If you want to win a gold medal, you will still be clocking

:19:53. > :20:02.on at around 11 o'clock. They put the shifts in. The reward at the

:20:02. > :20:07.end of it is about as great as you Martin Stamper is back in the next

:20:07. > :20:12.year in what could be the final period. Starting again quickly, a

:20:12. > :20:22.quick return shot from Martin Stamper and he is back in this.

:20:22. > :20:28.There is the head shot. What Stamper has to be careful about is

:20:28. > :20:31.going to the floor deliberately to avoid those. It is the tumbling

:20:31. > :20:37.tuck, and he gets one for falling over, but in the flailing of the

:20:37. > :20:43.limbs are there was a head shot. At least, an appeal for one. That is

:20:43. > :20:53.what the Turkish coach thinks, so the blue card comes out, brandished

:20:53. > :20:58.with a flourish, a little pomp and Did he keep him in the head, he

:20:58. > :21:08.whispers to his friend. Singaporean at the video referee

:21:08. > :21:18.there. There is so much that is regal about trying to find out if

:21:18. > :21:31.

:21:31. > :21:38.something pretty base and brutal. From our point to other view, it

:21:38. > :21:42.looks all right. They crossed arms show the appeal is unsuccessful.

:21:42. > :21:52.There will be no more appeals from him. The referee has pocketed the

:21:52. > :21:53.

:21:53. > :22:01.Martin Stamper is two points behind. He has given himself a bit of a

:22:01. > :22:08.lifeline. Stamper in the red, and he is up to within a point! He is

:22:08. > :22:12.slipping and sliding his way back into the match. The Turkish fighter

:22:12. > :22:22.spinning to the body, and that is a double. Shott, giving him the

:22:22. > :22:34.

:22:34. > :22:39.three-point advantage. So, not just He has to go for the head to pull

:22:39. > :22:48.himself back into this. Not yet at the moment, but if the Turkish

:22:48. > :22:58.fighter scores again, it will be desperation time. It is the side

:22:58. > :23:06.

:23:06. > :23:11.Martin Stamper needs a head shot. He gets himself back on the board,

:23:11. > :23:21.and he is mastering the movement like a matador. If Martin Stamper

:23:21. > :23:26.

:23:26. > :23:30.can get a spinning head shot in, he will snatch the lead. Martin

:23:30. > :23:38.Stamper is strictly speaking not allowed to do that. He will get a

:23:38. > :23:41.penalty, but he is inviting Stephen Jennings to play the red card and

:23:41. > :23:48.have a look at the video replay. He is prepared to pay the price for

:23:48. > :23:52.the penalty if he thinks he cannot lead that to anything more. He is

:23:52. > :23:57.asking for an extra point for pushing Martin Stamper to the floor.

:23:57. > :24:01.He is alleged to have pushed the British fighter to the ground, but

:24:01. > :24:06.also a tactical blow for Martin Stamper because he will get his

:24:06. > :24:11.breath back. You mention the emotional and physical tests, and

:24:11. > :24:14.this video replay confabs will allow him to rethink his tactics.

:24:14. > :24:20.It is interesting how the review system has been used tactically,

:24:20. > :24:27.especially towards the end of the big fights. Core no question about

:24:27. > :24:34.it, tactics and timing and it looks finely poised. The Turkish fighter

:24:34. > :24:39.a good value for the lead, but he's still in it, a Stamper. That

:24:39. > :24:45.particular review has been turned down. So, both fighters have lost

:24:45. > :24:53.the ability to ask for a review. Five seconds to go and Stamper has

:24:53. > :24:57.to do something extraordinary, and he was very close to it. But the

:24:57. > :25:02.world's best will fight to be the Olympic best. Martin Stamper will

:25:02. > :25:12.still get the opportunity, however, to go for the Olympic bronze via

:25:12. > :25:16.

:25:16. > :25:19.the repechage. He will be in the It was always going to be a tough

:25:19. > :25:24.one for Martin Stamper, but still the chance of a bronze medal. He

:25:24. > :25:33.will be back for that later on. We mentioned Jade Jones, and we will

:25:33. > :25:37.be back to see she can win the gold. The town of flint has played a big

:25:37. > :25:41.part in helping her achieve her dreams and you will be tuning in at

:25:41. > :25:46.10:15pm. You can see the crowds at the Olympic park and they are

:25:46. > :25:50.heading off to the stadium because we have the Bolt factor. He is up

:25:50. > :25:56.against Yohan Blake in the 200 metres final, so we will see if he

:25:56. > :26:03.can do another historic double. That is later on, and we are moving

:26:03. > :26:07.on. One word describes the cash will bike ride is due from the top

:26:07. > :26:10.of the three meet a ramp, but this is the start of a roller coaster by

:26:10. > :26:13.crime that delivers numerous crashes. It is a rough and tumble

:26:13. > :26:23.sport and one of the must watch events of the Games. Today it is

:26:23. > :26:24.

:26:24. > :26:27.the men's quarter-final swift eight riders. Liam Phillips goes first.

:26:27. > :26:32.After three runs, the top two riders, those with the lowest

:26:32. > :26:37.scores go through to the semi-final. The remaining riders continue after

:26:37. > :26:47.that. Liam but finished second after his first two runs and we can

:26:47. > :26:48.

:26:48. > :26:55.the spot in the semi-final. A good finish will put them straight into

:26:55. > :27:05.the semis. The Latvian looking good, but van der Biezen has a real him

:27:05. > :27:11.back. A bad crash from Marc Willers. Pickard is not getting up quickly

:27:11. > :27:21.there. Van der Biezen out in front, although he is undoubtedly claiming

:27:21. > :27:26.

:27:26. > :27:36.his spot in the semi-final. A great him, he really wanted that and

:27:36. > :27:41.

:27:41. > :27:46.needed it after the first run crash. Therkildsen 5th has got up there,

:27:46. > :27:51.because he has kept his nose clean in every race. This format is all

:27:51. > :27:55.about consistency. And I do not know what happened to him under the

:27:55. > :28:05.step up and stepped down. That was a bad accident. He's just getting

:28:05. > :28:06.

:28:06. > :28:16.picked up now. Hopefully he is OK. Getting carried off the track.

:28:16. > :28:16.

:28:16. > :28:20.Pickard has the door closed on him. Raymon van der Biezen is away. They

:28:20. > :28:25.did not actually crashing to each other, or maybe they did on the

:28:25. > :28:28.take-off, but they were not going to make that. Both of them catching

:28:28. > :28:34.the knuckle, almost like synchronised falling. This is a

:28:34. > :28:44.fantastic shot. You should not laugh, but it is great television.

:28:44. > :28:54.All of these guys accept the risk. I reckon he took a mouthful out the

:28:54. > :29:00.

:29:00. > :29:05.back of that last jump. Treimainis, what a story. He has fought his way

:29:05. > :29:09.back in and will advance into the semi-final. So, Vanda Venus -- van

:29:09. > :29:16.der Biezen, you can take a rest. You can see the pressure they are

:29:16. > :29:26.under, because the numbers after three rides, second place, 12.,

:29:26. > :29:40.

:29:40. > :29:50.that is extremely high. -- 12 took out Hyhaug. Baier also taken

:29:50. > :29:52.

:29:52. > :30:00.out. Moo Caille. A all of these guys know they will be in it for

:30:00. > :30:04.the long haul. Liam Phillips and Connor Fields have had some

:30:04. > :30:09.fantastic runs. Interesting that Liam Phillips got picked up the

:30:09. > :30:13.post and has been pushed down just one lane. That will not bother him.

:30:13. > :30:17.He has been in number three at least once or twice. He will be

:30:17. > :30:25.more than confident in that position. But will we see the same

:30:25. > :30:31.thing? Liam Phillips and Connor Fields taking the race. Liam

:30:31. > :30:35.Phillips has an incredible start, and again he get sick. Liam

:30:35. > :30:38.Phillips and Connor Fields battling out for the first line. Staying

:30:38. > :30:47.higher and clean, both of the riders. Traffic building up for

:30:47. > :30:52.third place. Tory has done well to put himself in 5th. Connor Fields

:30:52. > :30:59.cleaning his wheels as he comes into the third straight. Liam

:30:59. > :31:04.Phillips as the Latvian rider on his tail, but he has done well.

:31:04. > :31:10.Liam Phillips clinging on to second, and that is a guaranteed semi-final

:31:10. > :31:14.place for Connor Fields and Liam Phillips there. A brilliant ride by

:31:14. > :31:17.Liam and Connor Fields. They are both going to be chuffed with that.

:31:17. > :31:22.They both seem to have found their stride well and are confident. Liam

:31:22. > :31:26.Phillips has had three astonishing starts which has put him through to

:31:26. > :31:34.the semi-finals. Connor Fields starting to get better. You can see

:31:34. > :31:37.the strength, just able to pick up Liam into the first term. He seems

:31:37. > :31:41.happy to slot in behind him, he will accept that he is not coming

:31:41. > :31:45.after him now and will take the semi-final position. In that final,

:31:45. > :31:49.if you get a good start, you will cut the opponents up and come

:31:49. > :31:53.across, that is what you do. Establish your position in the

:31:53. > :31:57.front of the race. From the inside you push to the middle, close the

:31:57. > :32:01.door and look for the first line through the corner. He s, make it

:32:01. > :32:07.hard for the others behind you. Nice to see all the eight riders

:32:07. > :32:11.finish. We have had some huge pile ups, and it feels like everyone has

:32:11. > :32:21.now settled down a bit and got into the racing. Confirmation of the

:32:21. > :32:44.

:32:44. > :32:48.but how different will they be in a minutes' time? Again, we have two

:32:48. > :32:58.riders with very low point. Marc Willers is only on three, and Joris

:32:58. > :33:05.

:33:05. > :33:10.and Joris Daudet. Pizarro has struggled a bit. The Americans,

:33:10. > :33:13.they are the interesting prospects, Herman and Long. Taken out in the

:33:13. > :33:16.huge pile up in the first run. Found their way back into the

:33:16. > :33:22.middle of the field and I don't think they stand a chance of making

:33:22. > :33:28.the semi-finals in this third round. But they have to get a good run if

:33:28. > :33:32.they want to challenge for the top two after five runs. Marc Willers,

:33:32. > :33:39.he has done very well, and Joris Daudet. Interesting that Marc

:33:39. > :33:49.Willers has opted for that. Actually, I'm sorry, Joris Daudet

:33:49. > :33:50.

:33:50. > :33:55.won the last one, which is why he This is where he is strong -- Marc

:33:55. > :34:00.Willers. He has fantastic tactics to close the door. What can Joris

:34:00. > :34:07.Daudet do? The Americans doing well. Long in third. A little clip, that

:34:07. > :34:14.won't be good. So, Marc Willers looking very good, Joris Daudet on

:34:14. > :34:18.the inside, but a clean line for Marc Willers in the third straight.

:34:18. > :34:24.Herman coming up, and he will look for the inside line. A very

:34:24. > :34:30.important corner for Herman, but he clipped the second one. It is Long

:34:30. > :34:39.and Herman battling into the finish. It looked like Herman and Long had

:34:39. > :34:44.a tie on the line. Extremely close. I very good race. The Swiss rider

:34:44. > :34:47.able to hang with the young kids. The senior citizen hanging with the

:34:47. > :34:51.young kids. We talked about how many injuries you sustain and how

:34:51. > :35:01.unflinching you have to have in terms of confidence but we have a

:35:01. > :35:08.

:35:08. > :35:13.31-year-old keeping up with the qualified. Great right from him. He

:35:13. > :35:20.showed remarkable presence. He kept the door has closed all the way

:35:20. > :35:25.through and rode the finish straight all the way through.

:35:25. > :35:31.Herman was just unfortunate. He was able to claw his way back into a

:35:31. > :35:41.good position, but he had a slight wobble down the 4th straight and it

:35:41. > :36:03.

:36:03. > :36:09.start Hill. I know we have petrified a lot of kids away from

:36:09. > :36:15.the sport at this stage. You do not start on a course like this.

:36:15. > :36:25.would not take my kids to this type of circuit. There are plenty of

:36:25. > :36:36.

:36:36. > :36:46.tracks out there and that are a reigning Olympic champion doing in

:36:46. > :37:10.

:37:10. > :37:16.that gate? A lot of work for him to think Samuela be is one of the

:37:16. > :37:26.riders we are going to see up there. Absolutely, we just need to see a

:37:26. > :37:39.

:37:39. > :37:45.little bit more consistency. Maris Strombergs, that is Olympic class.

:37:45. > :37:55.That is the Colombian just tucked in behind him. Then it is Sam it

:37:55. > :38:04.

:38:04. > :38:10.for a Maris Strombergs and he needed that desperately. Yes, that

:38:10. > :38:15.was a good show of his talent level. That was a fantastic ride. He got

:38:15. > :38:20.the start he needed and was able to use his horse power and pull

:38:20. > :38:30.himself into that first-term first. I am sure that will instil him with

:38:30. > :38:45.

:38:45. > :38:55.Look at that commitment from Maris Strombergs. To make that move you

:38:55. > :39:00.have got to be sure. This guy is a very skilled athlete. Still well

:39:00. > :39:06.within his comfort zone, I think. Just finding his rhythm and

:39:06. > :39:12.building his confidence. He knew how much speed the others were

:39:12. > :39:16.carrying and he was on the outside of that course. He loves stay out

:39:16. > :39:22.of trouble and getting a good clean start on the outside and then

:39:22. > :39:32.cutting in. He starts have not been good today, but he turned it around

:39:32. > :40:01.

:40:01. > :40:11.both got eight points, but Maris Strombergs beat him on the last

:40:11. > :40:18.heat, so he will take that second spot. I think Sam knows that as

:40:18. > :40:22.long as he keeps his nose clean, he should be fine in the next races.

:40:22. > :40:32.These are the ones who are transferred automatically into the

:40:32. > :40:34.

:40:34. > :40:39.Well done to Ian Phillips. He will be competing tomorrow along with

:40:39. > :40:44.Shanaze Reade. We are now going to head back to the Excel Arena

:40:44. > :40:47.because earlier this afternoon Nicola Adams made history by

:40:47. > :40:53.winning the first women's boxing gold medal at the Olympic Games.

:40:53. > :41:00.And she did it in style beating the three-times world champion Ren

:41:00. > :41:10.Cancan. Her smile lit up the arena as she left and I'm sure she is

:41:10. > :41:13.

:41:13. > :41:18.still doing the same. Let's go back to see her receiver that gold medal.

:41:18. > :41:23.She cannot contain her joy as she makes history by becoming the first

:41:23. > :41:28.women's Olympic boxing champion in the history of the Olympic Games.

:41:28. > :41:35.What better place to do it and before her home crowd here in

:41:35. > :41:44.London at the Games of the 30th Olympiad. Absolutely wonderful.

:41:44. > :41:54.This 29 year-old began boxing at the age of 12. She received the

:41:54. > :42:13.

:42:13. > :42:18.most a rousing ovation from this # God save our gracious Queen.

:42:19. > :42:21.# Long live our noble Queen. # God save the Queen.

:42:21. > :42:31.# Send her victorious. # Happy and glorious.

:42:31. > :42:46.

:42:46. > :42:52.# Long to reign over us. A sport that is always one of the

:42:52. > :42:57.showcases at any Olympic Games. That has just turned a page on a

:42:57. > :43:00.whole new chapter of Olympic achievements. We have just

:43:00. > :43:06.witnessed the coronation of the first women's Olympic boxing

:43:06. > :43:11.champion and it is Nicola Adams from Leeds who has topped the pile

:43:11. > :43:21.at the first women's Olympic boxing championship in history. She joins

:43:21. > :43:26.

:43:26. > :43:33.the immortals of the Olympic boxing You got the medal, how does that

:43:33. > :43:38.feel? I am absolutely over the moon. I cannot believe I did my dream

:43:38. > :43:47.today. It is a dream come true for me. I have been dreaming about this

:43:47. > :43:51.since I was 12 years old. I have got my medal for Great Britain.

:43:51. > :43:56.was a fantastic performance all the way through. You must have been

:43:56. > :44:01.surprised how well it went, especially the knock-down. Yes,

:44:01. > :44:06.definitely, I was surprised, but this is what I have been working

:44:06. > :44:11.for a. We got the tactics spot on. I had trained and worked hard for

:44:11. > :44:16.the last eight weeks and the tactics paid off. I got in there

:44:16. > :44:22.and started fast to get the points on the board. All those years of

:44:22. > :44:27.wandering and having a bad injury and thinking, well I box? Now this

:44:27. > :44:37.must seem like a dream. Definitely, especially after my injury and I

:44:37. > :44:42.To come back again and when a gold medal, this is what dreams are made

:44:42. > :44:47.of. I would like to thank my fans as my mother and everybody who has

:44:47. > :44:54.come here to support me. I spoke to you before and you said, I have

:44:54. > :45:01.never known nerves like this, but you did not have to worry. No.

:45:02. > :45:09.the celebrations go on for several days? Yes, definitely, I think so.

:45:09. > :45:15.I just want to go to Nando's! During the next few days you will

:45:15. > :45:21.go home to Yorkshire. What we doing? I will be going around Leeds

:45:21. > :45:26.and showing off my gold medal and thanking them all for the support

:45:26. > :45:32.they had shown me over the years. The City of Leeds has given us

:45:32. > :45:38.great sporting heroes and you are one of them now. Yes, I am so proud

:45:38. > :45:46.to be families and to add myself to that table of many great athletes.

:45:46. > :45:54.Many congratulations, thank you very much. This is a nice moment

:45:54. > :45:58.for you as well. Yes, definitely. I have known him since he was in the

:45:58. > :46:03.England camp and I have not seen him for a while. She did better

:46:03. > :46:09.than me and she got the gold medal and that is what we wanted.

:46:09. > :46:15.well know how she feels. Yes, she will be over the moon. All that

:46:15. > :46:21.training has paid off. Nicola, thank you very much indeed. Let's

:46:21. > :46:27.get you to assess the site. It was routine for her. Yes, she did

:46:27. > :46:32.exactly what she had to do. Great footwork, great hands and great

:46:32. > :46:36.combinations. She got up in points in the early rounds and towards the

:46:36. > :46:42.end in the 4th round she was 10 points up and she walked right

:46:42. > :46:45.through it. A great performance and being such a young age as well. The

:46:45. > :46:49.girl who she was fighting was already the three-times world

:46:49. > :46:54.champion, so she put in a great performance and has to be proud of

:46:54. > :47:01.herself. Once you have won an Olympic medal, it changes your life

:47:01. > :47:04.for ever more of. Yes, definitely. I won a silver medal and I was a

:47:04. > :47:09.household name. Everywhere I went in England people were so happy for

:47:09. > :47:14.me and they wanted to take pictures. Nicola well get the same thing

:47:14. > :47:18.happening to her. A lot of people will want to meet her and take

:47:18. > :47:24.pictures of her. Now she is the face of British boxing, especially

:47:24. > :47:31.for women. And she is such an engaging personality. The she is

:47:31. > :47:35.always smiling and happy. I do not think I have never seen her not

:47:35. > :47:41.smile. She is very chilled out and calm and that is what I like about

:47:41. > :47:46.her. Wells said. It is a wonderful story and she has fought so hard

:47:46. > :47:52.for that gold medal. There were thousands of Irish fans to cheer on

:47:52. > :47:59.Katie Taylor who won the gold medal in the lightweight division. One

:47:59. > :48:08.other title was decided to date. It went to 17 year-old American

:48:08. > :48:13.Claressa Shields. She won the women's and middleweight title. She

:48:13. > :48:19.beat her 19-12 in the final. The Six o'clock News is coming up on
