:00:09. > :00:13.wait! Modern pentathlon provides the last

:00:13. > :00:21.gold medal of the Games, that is coming up. Mhairi Spence and

:00:21. > :00:26.Samantha Murray are aiming to win for Great Britain.

:00:26. > :00:30.That will be coming up shortly. We will have the action live. Clare

:00:30. > :00:36.Balding is at Greenwich for the combined event.

:00:36. > :00:42.USA's dream team have been a fire in London and they aim to go out in

:00:42. > :00:49.glory against Spain in the men's basketball.

:00:49. > :00:53.Sweden and France go head-to-head in handball for men's gold.

:00:53. > :01:03.We will be live to the handball shortly, followed by the

:01:03. > :01:12.

:01:12. > :01:17.On BBC Three you can watch the men's basketball live. It is

:01:17. > :01:22.tighter at the moment. Handball has been one of the big hits of these

:01:22. > :01:28.games. Today sees the final of the men's competition with Sweden

:01:28. > :01:34.taking on France. For the closing stages of the competition, the

:01:35. > :01:41.handball has moved from the Copper Box to be Basketball Arena. That is

:01:41. > :01:51.where we can watch the match live. Paul Bray is your commentator. It

:01:51. > :02:07.

:02:07. > :02:17.off the foot. Sweden have possession. There is no change from

:02:17. > :02:19.

:02:19. > :02:24.the referee. The ball is loose, he tries to throw it. Sweden are still

:02:24. > :02:34.on the attack, they trail by three. Really, it has been down to their

:02:34. > :02:52.

:02:52. > :02:59.line player shoulder barges him. He was well positioned and used all

:02:59. > :03:09.his experience but he has paid the Price. There it is again. The

:03:09. > :03:19.shoulder was straight in under the chin. He was there too late. He

:03:19. > :03:21.

:03:21. > :03:26.needed to move into the space. He is up and he plays on. He has

:03:26. > :03:36.scored 786 goals. Former world player of the Year - a huge

:03:36. > :03:38.

:03:38. > :03:45.favourite. He went on his own. Fantastic player. A save. Right in

:03:45. > :03:54.front of goal. He has not had the best of championships. They paid

:03:54. > :04:01.the Price at the other end. He celebrates. He started it all with

:04:01. > :04:11.the great save off the line. He was allowed to go all the way through.

:04:11. > :04:13.

:04:13. > :04:18.This time he slope to close the gap. -- he slowed. The defence

:04:19. > :04:27.specialist takes a breather was dug nearly passing to the line. He had

:04:27. > :04:35.to switch it back. It was nearly stolen. It was a French port. He

:04:35. > :04:42.deflected it out of play. They are looking a bit ragged. Sweden are

:04:42. > :04:52.defending really hard. It has been a low-scoring game. Again, Sweden

:04:52. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :05:03.get the advantage. Eight saves. He looks up to the clock. Back incomes

:05:03. > :05:06.

:05:06. > :05:15.Petersen. -- in comes. He went into his wing. He is being used as a

:05:15. > :05:25.wing at and a playmaker. It is deafening in the arena. -- a winner.

:05:25. > :05:40.

:05:41. > :05:46.There will be moister on the ground. Save No. 8. -- moisture. That was

:05:46. > :05:56.not very well placed. Tilt it counts. 9.5 minutes played in the

:05:56. > :06:04.second half. -- still it counts. Again. If you give him the space,

:06:04. > :06:14.he will put it away. Now he has scored three in the second half. It

:06:14. > :06:27.

:06:28. > :06:34.line. He has put one of his trademark shots into the back of

:06:34. > :06:44.the net. That was well defended. We are pass the ten-minute mark in the

:06:44. > :06:58.

:06:59. > :07:08.The Swedish Royal Family approves. The king and queen are among the

:07:09. > :07:11.

:07:11. > :07:19.spectators. That was a bullet of a shot - over 100 kilometres an hour.

:07:19. > :07:29.He failed with his single attempt so far. That passed to the line. A

:07:29. > :07:30.

:07:30. > :07:40.free throw. -- that pass. In on the line again. Into the weighing. He

:07:40. > :07:43.

:07:43. > :07:52.could not do anything with it. -- into the wing. He went in too hard.

:07:52. > :08:02.He has given the ball away will start -- the ball away. He put it

:08:02. > :08:04.

:08:05. > :08:13.wide and not even on target. How could he missed it by so much? --

:08:13. > :08:18.missed it. 705 goals. It may well have clipped his shoulder. He has

:08:18. > :08:28.not been credited with a save but I do wonder. And cannot believe he

:08:28. > :08:38.put it quite so wide. Back come Sweden. He has a big shot. You need

:08:38. > :08:40.

:08:40. > :08:45.to watch him. He was held up by the 35-year-old defender. There was

:08:45. > :08:55.criticism of his defending at the end of Euro 2012, when they failed

:08:55. > :08:56.

:08:56. > :09:06.so miserably. They tried to put the ball to the line. It went out. He

:09:06. > :09:18.

:09:18. > :09:22.16-13 to France. We're going to go back to the XL arena. Anthony

:09:22. > :09:28.Joshua was given the super- heavyweight gold on a countback.

:09:28. > :09:36.The Italians appealed. We have the results of that appeal. Let's get

:09:36. > :09:41.the results. Just a second ago, it feels like Joshua has won two got

:09:41. > :09:46.medals because the result has steered. Anthony Joshua is the

:09:46. > :09:53.super heavyweight Olympic champion. I think when they we scored it,

:09:53. > :09:59.they probably saw that Joshua won it on a wider margin. That was in

:09:59. > :10:06.the West's interests of the Italians. There was something funny

:10:06. > :10:10.about the scoring in the first two rants. The fact they went over it

:10:11. > :10:20.again, they probably said, there was a definite problem and it

:10:21. > :10:21.

:10:21. > :10:27.should stand. So it should be. He won quite clearly. The second round

:10:27. > :10:33.I do not think he was three points down. In the last round he made up

:10:33. > :10:41.for it. He got the points comfortably. I'm sure he won by a

:10:41. > :10:47.wider margin. Quickly reflecting on what has been a terrific boxing

:10:47. > :10:52.contest. Anthony Ogogo picked up bronze. It has been incredible of.

:10:52. > :10:56.It has been very incredible - not only for the boxers but for the

:10:57. > :11:01.country and the next generation of boxes that will come up. The next

:11:01. > :11:07.generation of boxes, at seeing is in her home town and their home

:11:07. > :11:12.country, it will give them great inspiration. -- in their home town.

:11:12. > :11:18.Since 1908, we have not had four boxers in the finals. It is a

:11:18. > :11:24.brilliant achievement for British boxing. He is just about to pick up

:11:24. > :11:30.his gold medal of. This is a very special moment for him, isn't it?

:11:30. > :11:36.know he will feel very proud - a job well done. All this work was

:11:36. > :11:41.for gold. Or the hard work, he has been working hard. Sleeping early,

:11:41. > :11:48.not going out with friends. All those things. Big sacrifices was

:11:48. > :11:58.that it has paid up with the got Murdoch. Let's go to our commentary

:11:58. > :12:36.

:12:36. > :12:46.Bronze medallist, representing The Azerbaijani was disappointed to

:12:46. > :12:50.be defeated in the semi-final, 13 points to 12 in the semi-final.

:12:50. > :12:57.Wonderful accomplishment for both of these men. Standing on the

:12:57. > :13:07.Olympic medal rostrum, receiving bronze medals in recognition. It

:13:07. > :13:24.

:13:24. > :13:31.has been a wonderful tournament Silver medallist, representing

:13:31. > :13:40.Italy, -- Roberto Camerelli. What an achievement exclamation that he

:13:40. > :13:48.gets his third Olympic medal in this division. -- what an

:13:48. > :13:58.achievement! He has obtained a medal of each colour. A bronze from

:13:58. > :14:08.Athens and gold from Beijing. medallist and Olympic champion -

:14:08. > :14:10.

:14:10. > :14:14.representing Great Britain - Anthony Joshua! Anthony Joshua

:14:14. > :14:20.pumps his best in celebration pulls but he acknowledges the crowd. They

:14:21. > :14:27.cheered him on to the hard fought victory. He has the Olympic gold

:14:27. > :14:31.medal placed around his neck. A proud moment for the 22-year-old

:14:31. > :14:41.from Finchley. He is the Olympic gold medallist in the super-

:14:41. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :15:03.Please stand for the national # God save our gracious Queen!

:15:03. > :15:03.

:15:03. > :15:13.# Long live our noble Queen! # God save the Queen!

:15:13. > :15:23.# Send her victorious. # Happy and glorious.

:15:23. > :15:36.

:15:36. > :15:43.# Long to reign over us. A rendition of Great Britain'as a

:15:43. > :15:48.national anthem by a 10,000 strong crowd in London Docklands. Ladies

:15:48. > :15:55.and gentlemen, the Olympic medallists. It is in recognition of

:15:55. > :16:00.the fact that Anthony judge-led, 22 years of age, is the Olympic

:16:00. > :16:06.champion. -- Anthony Joshua. What an achievement from this young man

:16:06. > :16:13.from Finchley in North London! Four years ago he did not know anything

:16:13. > :16:19.about boxing. He had no idea who James DeGale was. He did not watch

:16:19. > :16:24.his fellow Londoner stand atop the encrypt -- the Olympic rostrum in

:16:24. > :16:30.Beijing. After stepping into a wing for the first time four years ago,

:16:30. > :16:37.this magnificent all-round athletes ran 11 seconds for the 100m when he

:16:37. > :16:43.was a teenager. He went into boxing. With his intelligence, his

:16:43. > :16:48.incredible desire and his work ethic, Anthony Joshua has scaled

:16:48. > :16:53.the heights to big cat -- to be crowned the Olympic super-

:16:53. > :16:57.heavyweight champion. He has followed in the footsteps of such

:16:58. > :17:05.legendary names in the Olympic boxing ring like Lennox Lewis,

:17:05. > :17:11.Vladimir Klitschko. He emulates the accomplished ment of Audley

:17:11. > :17:17.Harrison from Sydney 12 years ago. When you consider that the super

:17:17. > :17:25.heavyweight division was not created until 1984, then the

:17:25. > :17:33.biggest men were often some of the brighter stars of the Olympic ring.

:17:33. > :17:39.That includes George Foreman and Smoking Jo Fraser. Anthony Joshua

:17:39. > :17:44.has just joined their rank as an Olympic title list. Anthony Joshua

:17:44. > :17:54.is the Olympic super-heavyweight champion at the Games of the 30th

:17:54. > :18:02.

:18:02. > :18:06.Incredible scenes here as Anthony Joshua caps what has been the most

:18:06. > :18:10.memorable of Olympic Games with London 2012 proving a massive

:18:10. > :18:15.success. Anthony Joshua, despite the appeal from the Italian,

:18:15. > :18:20.getting his hands on that gold medal. It is a dream come true from

:18:20. > :18:25.the man who only took up boxing four years ago. The modern

:18:25. > :18:31.pentathlon is still to come later on. We could even add to our gold

:18:31. > :18:36.medal total of 29. We could talk about Anthony Joshua turning pro,

:18:36. > :18:42.that is for another day. Tonight belongs To Anthony Joshua, he is

:18:42. > :18:52.the Olympic gold champion here at London 2012.

:18:52. > :18:55.Thank you, to Manish Bhasin, Ron Waddell and -- which she would all

:18:55. > :19:05.and Ron Mackintosh. 90 no way it was the last time we came away with

:19:05. > :19:09.

:19:09. > :19:15.so many gold medals -- 19 oh eight. We asked people why they eat it in

:19:15. > :19:20.the medals. A dish to show whether it is real gold. -- it is to show

:19:20. > :19:30.whether it is real gold. We can get back to the handball

:19:30. > :19:35.

:19:35. > :19:45.final now. France have a slender receiving treatment after a heavy

:19:45. > :19:46.

:19:46. > :19:52.fall. We have eight minutes or so remaining in the final. It is not a

:19:52. > :19:57.big lead. The defending champions, France, looking to become only the

:19:57. > :20:06.second team in the men's handball competition to retain their title

:20:06. > :20:16.after Russia did, albeit under a different title the second time.

:20:16. > :20:17.

:20:17. > :20:21.Play resumes. Sweden have been defending superbly this game. That

:20:21. > :20:26.score will not count. The referee blew the whistle. He was under

:20:26. > :20:36.pressure being pushed away, making the restricting angle worse with

:20:36. > :20:57.

:20:57. > :21:05.waited for the goalkeeper to jump and as the goalkeeper was dropping,

:21:05. > :21:15.he lobs it over the keeper. A team time-out is called by Sweden. They

:21:15. > :21:15.

:21:15. > :21:20.have got back to be -- it back to within one, 15-16. But France have

:21:20. > :21:30.opened up the lead again. That was a fabulous goal. It is how long you

:21:30. > :21:52.

:21:52. > :22:02.there. The Swedish coach is the motivator, the French one is a

:22:02. > :22:37.

:22:37. > :22:41.the end to give them a three-goal lead as play resumes. The French

:22:41. > :22:51.goalkeeper was utterly brilliant in the match against Croatia, he made

:22:51. > :23:18.

:23:18. > :23:28.19 saves. That was superb. French player was fouled on the

:23:28. > :23:38.

:23:38. > :23:46.space and the number 7 player for Sweden was all over him until he

:23:46. > :23:53.knows he has got him on the floor. Kalman has to come out again. They

:23:53. > :24:03.will try and operate in behind him if they can. That was unlucky. He

:24:03. > :24:15.

:24:15. > :24:25.inside the area. He took a step back as Petersen ran at him. He was

:24:25. > :24:28.

:24:28. > :24:38.inside the area. Ekberg will take it. And he scores. With that goal,

:24:38. > :24:47.

:24:47. > :24:53.Ekberg is once more top scorer with eight team that time-out is called

:24:53. > :24:59.by France. Both teams need time to marshal and to make some

:24:59. > :25:05.adjustments as we get into the critical phase of the game. They

:25:05. > :25:11.met in the group stages and France won on that occasion, 29-26. There

:25:11. > :25:15.was nothing in it. At half-time, the Swedes were leading and it

:25:15. > :25:24.looked good going into the second half. The crowds were able to exert

:25:24. > :25:32.pressure. It could go either way. Sweden have three times been built

:25:32. > :25:35.and -- beating in the final by Russia and Croatia. 12,000

:25:35. > :25:45.spectators are thoroughly enjoying this handball final here in the

:25:45. > :25:54.

:25:54. > :25:59.remarkable. It is not all power either, as that shot shows, a

:25:59. > :26:05.little flick of the wrist to drop it over the shoulder of the keeper.

:26:05. > :26:11.Play resumes, five minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the final.

:26:11. > :26:21.France lead 20-18. Sweden have opted for a more aggressive defence

:26:21. > :26:24.

:26:24. > :26:34.with Kallman at the front. That was a foul. The Swedish captain number

:26:34. > :27:02.

:27:02. > :27:10.sparingly in this game. And it is a goal for France. It comes with a

:27:10. > :27:19.two minute suspension. He shoots and while he is in mid-air, get a

:27:19. > :27:29.push by Kalman and the No. 6 is off. He is unhappy. Five minutes

:27:29. > :27:37.

:27:37. > :27:44.number 64 Sweden, is off. That was exactly what they needed from

:27:44. > :27:54.Andersson, the former captain of the Swedish team, who after being

:27:54. > :28:04.

:28:04. > :28:14.injured for a while, gave up the club and we will wait to see where

:28:14. > :28:35.

:28:35. > :28:45.should have been an attacking foul. There was not a big gap and it was

:28:45. > :28:59.

:28:59. > :29:04.after a backlash. There was a gap. -- after that clash. A change of

:29:04. > :29:11.goalkeeper for Sweden, they bring in the veteran Mutai S Andersson.

:29:12. > :29:14.He is 34 years of age. -- Mattis Andersson. He has not saved any

:29:15. > :29:24.penalties so far in this competition, this would be a good

:29:25. > :30:00.

:30:00. > :30:10.time to start. It is of the post. way now, they have to get organised.

:30:10. > :30:29.

:30:29. > :30:33.The referee is warning they have to saved! It was an awkward one. He

:30:33. > :30:42.shot lower normally be goalkeeper needs to see the arm of the shooter

:30:43. > :30:47.to judge. That was an instinctive reaction. In handball, when the

:30:47. > :30:57.goalkeeper puts the ball out behind the back lane, it is a goalkeeper

:30:57. > :31:25.

:31:25. > :31:35.at the clock. It tells him he does strength put Kallman back at the

:31:35. > :31:48.

:31:48. > :31:55.front. It is a full frontal attack Into the last two minutes. Two

:31:55. > :32:03.goals in it. Will Sweden make it 4th time lucky in a final all will

:32:03. > :32:13.France keep their title? It is deafening. The French supporters

:32:13. > :32:37.

:32:37. > :32:47.are chanting. Saved. A two minute final team time out. Time for

:32:47. > :32:53.Sweden to close the gap. There is not much time left. He would have

:32:53. > :33:00.got away with it if he had not pushed back player pulls dug he

:33:00. > :33:10.looks on bemused. The goalkeeper has saved 11 shots. -- pushed that

:33:10. > :33:18.player. At the other end, he has made 13 saves. Both teams are level

:33:18. > :33:24.pegging. The French scoring has gone some -- Dan sum up with its

:33:24. > :33:31.accuracy. -- gone down somewhat with its accuracy. France will have

:33:31. > :33:36.to defend as if their lives depend on it. Sweden has a three -- a free

:33:36. > :33:46.throw. They have the extra player now, right through to the end of

:33:46. > :33:53.

:33:53. > :34:03.the game. Only one minute and 36 has been given as a throw-in to

:34:03. > :34:06.

:34:06. > :34:15.Sweden. It is a penalty. They could get back within one. The crowd up

:34:15. > :34:21.on their feet. Let's have a look! Were they right? There is the shot.

:34:21. > :34:29.It should have been a French a throw-in. Sweden get a penalty on

:34:29. > :34:39.the back of this will stop they are still remonstrating with the

:34:39. > :34:59.

:34:59. > :35:09.referees. -- at the back of this wane. -- put away. We were inside

:35:09. > :35:10.

:35:10. > :35:16.the last minute. It could go into extra time if it is tired. He has

:35:16. > :35:26.scored. France are two up again. Sweden, who had a chance Cup may

:35:26. > :35:37.

:35:37. > :35:41.have blown it. They need to get a remaining. He needs to get back in

:35:42. > :35:47.goal. Team time out to France. 12 seconds remaining for France to

:35:47. > :35:52.hang on. You might say it may be poetic justice after the ball was

:35:52. > :35:58.knocked out by a Swede and given as eight their win and they scored

:35:58. > :36:04.from the resulting penalty. They have defended superbly, Sweden,

:36:04. > :36:12.throughout this game. They could have been in trouble. As in the

:36:12. > :36:19.group game, they have really dug in. 12th turnovers for France. There

:36:19. > :36:24.had been a lot of mistakes in this game. It has not been a technical

:36:25. > :36:28.masterpiece but it has been high in intensity, strong defence and now a

:36:28. > :36:36.drama. The Swedish fans are desperately hoping they can steal

:36:36. > :36:40.the ball and take this match to extra time. These are snared -- be

:36:40. > :36:49.suspended player will only see action again if it goes to extra

:36:49. > :36:59.time. The Swedes will defend the forecourt. They have an extra

:36:59. > :37:06.

:37:06. > :37:13.player. 12 seconds. One mistake time for France. He looks at the

:37:13. > :37:21.clock. They are going to do it. That is it. The buzzer has gone. He

:37:21. > :37:25.raises his hands aloft. France have defended their title. They are

:37:25. > :37:34.Olympic champions again. Sweden with the power play at the end

:37:34. > :37:41.could not capitalise. Almost ripping his shirt off. The joint

:37:41. > :37:51.top scorer in the competition, for him, that will mean nothing. They

:37:51. > :37:54.

:37:54. > :38:01.had tasted defeat again in an Olympic final. They scored the

:38:01. > :38:08.crucial gulp and France hung on. Incredible scenes in the arena. The

:38:08. > :38:15.crowd is on its feet. It is deafening. French flags are waving

:38:15. > :38:23.and so are Swedish flags. A huge 18 -- achievement for a team not

:38:23. > :38:29.expected to have made it through. That is it. Bronze for Croatia.

:38:29. > :38:39.France have retained their title with a win over Sweden in the final.

:38:39. > :38:40.

:38:40. > :38:45.Brilliant scenes. Congratulations to France. The narrowest of

:38:45. > :38:51.victories. The agony and the ecstasy of the Olympic Games. Let's

:38:51. > :38:57.catch up today's headline makers. Super-heavyweight boxer, Anthony

:38:57. > :39:06.judge-led, has clinched Great Britain's 29th gold Murdoch of the

:39:06. > :39:12.Games after an appeal was rejected. There was a silver for Fred Evans

:39:12. > :39:22.after a comprehensive defeat by the Keswicks star Any boxer in a

:39:22. > :39:26.

:39:26. > :39:31.welterweight final. Uganda got their second ever gold medal ahead

:39:31. > :39:39.of the much fancied Kenyans in the marathon. Let's go back to the

:39:39. > :39:49.modern pentathlon. This is how the standings look. Great Britain's

:39:49. > :39:51.

:39:51. > :40:01.women are keeping up with the place. -- the pace. Samantha Murray is in

:40:01. > :40:11.

:40:11. > :40:16.Coronado's Son. She won the title in Rome in May. She is a 9th place

:40:16. > :40:26.in the competition. Let's see how she can get on over these fences in

:40:26. > :40:38.

:40:38. > :40:45.strong horse. Just going forwards a bit. She is trying to get him back

:40:45. > :40:53.between the fences. She is an experienced rider. She has had a

:40:53. > :40:57.pony club and triathlon background. She is managing well. She is

:40:57. > :41:05.getting him balanced, getting him back together between the fences.

:41:05. > :41:15.That is what she needs to do. He is tending to rush his fences a bit.

:41:15. > :41:31.

:41:31. > :41:36.trying to hold him - trying to keep him back and stop him rushing and

:41:36. > :41:44.flattering over the spent - is back and the fences. Now she will pick

:41:44. > :41:51.up time penalties as well. -- flattering over and the fences.

:41:51. > :41:59.That was disappointing. Not the easiest horse. You can hear Mhairi

:42:00. > :42:09.Spence. She is quite vocal as she goes around the course. 104 penalty

:42:10. > :42:10.

:42:11. > :42:16.Mhairi Spence not having the best of France. Let's cross over to

:42:16. > :42:21.Claire Balding who is at Greenwich for us today and see if she has any

:42:21. > :42:24.idea whether or not Mhairi Spence has spoken after that or not.

:42:24. > :42:30.not get interviews with the athletes between the five

:42:30. > :42:35.disciplines. We have the combined run shoots still to come. That is

:42:35. > :42:40.really expensive. That will cost her about 26 seconds. The next

:42:40. > :42:46.competitor has just started. Samantha Murray is in third place.

:42:46. > :42:51.It is a little bit luck of the draw. Her horse was really big and really

:42:51. > :42:56.strong. It was written already in the afternoon. It came in with all

:42:57. > :43:02.these people who were fantastically respectful and tried to clap

:43:02. > :43:08.quietly. That never really works. Coronado's Son became a bit of a

:43:08. > :43:16.nightmare ride for her. She battled with it as best she could. 104

:43:17. > :43:21.penalty points and 26 seconds. The run shoot is a fantastic

:43:21. > :43:31.competition. The leader at the end of this riding phase will start out

:43:31. > :43:35.

:43:35. > :43:41.first on the run shoot. It is 3000m Let's rejoin the competition. We

:43:41. > :43:48.are getting into the key contenders. It is amazing, watching a different

:43:48. > :43:54.level of riding abilities. Every time I think someone well jump

:43:54. > :43:59.clear, something goes terribly wrong. It is the difficult thing to

:43:59. > :44:05.get on an unfamiliar horse, ride it for 20 minutes beforehand, and

:44:05. > :44:10.tried to jump these fences without having too many fences down. It is

:44:10. > :44:15.really hard. You say they have 20 minutes beforehand to try to get

:44:15. > :44:21.used to the horse. What can they do? There are some jumps out of the

:44:21. > :44:27.back. They can only jump five of them before they come in here. That

:44:27. > :44:33.is pretty quick to be able to pop on and say, I love you, do you let

:44:33. > :44:37.me? It is a very hard thing. It tests off assets of an athlete with

:44:38. > :44:44.the fencing, the swimming, the riding and then the run shoot.

:44:45. > :44:50.Women have only been able to compete since 2000. Steph Cook won

:44:50. > :44:58.the first Olympic gold medal. We also won a bronze at the next Games

:44:58. > :45:06.and also a bronze at Beijing. Where the only country to have won medals

:45:06. > :45:16.at all three pentathlon so at the Olympics. -- we are the only

:45:16. > :45:24.

:45:24. > :45:29.country. Now let's rejoin the action. Margaux Isaksen Has re-

:45:29. > :45:37.entered the whip - has never the ring. It is the ultimate test of

:45:37. > :45:44.the Olympic sports man and, since 2000, sportswomen. The first person

:45:44. > :45:52.to win an Olympic gold Murdoch in Sydney was Steph Cook. She is

:45:52. > :45:59.sitting behind me. The American has been having an excellent day. Just

:45:59. > :46:07.20 years old. She was equal 4th in the fencing, 16th in the swimming.

:46:07. > :46:15.She will be riding Puck Glen. horses have all been written in one

:46:15. > :46:22.round already. She is the second rider to have this horse. The first

:46:22. > :46:30.rider ended with 356 penalty points. That is a mixture of jumping and

:46:30. > :46:37.time penalties. The American is really taking a flying round. This

:46:37. > :46:41.course is tight on time. She is certainly not hanging around at all.

:46:41. > :46:49.Perhaps she could do with bringing this horse back a little bit

:46:49. > :46:59.otherwise she risks bit flattering over the fences. There you see it

:46:59. > :46:59.

:46:59. > :47:09.coming out of the combination. Two rails down and another one. This

:47:09. > :47:11.

:47:11. > :47:15.course has been designed by Claire Forgat and is designed to test

:47:15. > :47:25.riding ability rather than the horse. There are turns on the cause

:47:25. > :47:28.

:47:28. > :47:36.to test riding ability. American conceding 80 penalty

:47:36. > :47:40.points. Sorry, 60 penalty points. 1140 points, it puts her at the

:47:40. > :47:46.moment at the top of the competition. Maybe she was going at

:47:46. > :47:51.some speed but she spent her horse for giving a decent run around.

:47:51. > :47:57.That was a fairly respectable round. We have only seen one clear so far

:47:57. > :48:01.and that was Iryna Khokhlova. She had a relatively modest performance

:48:02. > :48:09.in the fencing and swimming earlier on today. Just letting her down a

:48:09. > :48:19.little bit. That was not a bad round by her. We're now into the

:48:19. > :48:23.

:48:23. > :48:27.suffering a few injuries in recent years. The way things are going at

:48:27. > :48:33.the moment, if she has a decent round here, she could put herself

:48:33. > :48:39.in a good spot for the combined event which will be at about 6

:48:40. > :48:45.o'clock. This is her third Olympic Games. She finished 9th in Beijing,

:48:45. > :48:52.11th in Athens. She is also a triple world champion and double

:48:52. > :48:56.European champion. Plenty of experience behind her. This horse

:48:57. > :49:06.was ridden by tomorrow Vega from Mexico in the first-round. --

:49:07. > :49:17.

:49:17. > :49:27.problems on the course. You can tell the experience of her riding

:49:27. > :49:35.coming out here. She turns right handed into this oxer. Closely

:49:35. > :49:43.followed by two uprights. They are both one metre 20 in height. Coming

:49:43. > :49:50.into the final line now. These are the highest fences on the course.

:49:50. > :49:58.20 penalty points there, just inside the time. She will be

:49:58. > :50:02.pleased with that. That was an excellent round. She looks slightly

:50:02. > :50:12.frustrated to have the one down but at the moment she has gone into the

:50:12. > :50:13.

:50:13. > :50:18.lead of the competition. That will be a good position for her. As we

:50:18. > :50:23.go through, you will see the pentathlon points tot up. For every

:50:23. > :50:27.four points behind the leader, you will go one second behind them. The

:50:27. > :50:34.leader will go first and then we progress down the rankings. At the

:50:34. > :50:44.moment, Amelie Caze is at the top. Mhairi Spence is in 10th position.

:50:44. > :50:56.

:50:56. > :51:01.We are now into the top four of our She started badly in the fencing

:51:01. > :51:09.but she has pushed away up the leaderboard. She was 78 in the

:51:09. > :51:19.swimming competition, so not the strongest of swimmers -- 17th. She

:51:19. > :51:35.

:51:35. > :51:39.is a mum. She has a little girl. because Laura Asadauskaite is very

:51:39. > :51:44.strong in the combined event. If she has a good round here, it will

:51:44. > :51:49.put her in a very good position coming into the final phase of the

:51:49. > :51:59.modern pentathlon competition. Her riding has been little inconsistent

:51:59. > :51:59.

:51:59. > :52:04.in the past but she has really focused on it this year. She is

:52:04. > :52:14.riding the same horse as Sarolta Kovacs in the first round. She was

:52:14. > :52:40.

:52:40. > :52:50.eliminated for taking the wrong Olympic Games. She is ranked number

:52:50. > :53:06.

:53:06. > :53:13.championships and at the World Cup trouble there. This riding course

:53:13. > :53:20.has 12 fences, including two combinations, a double and a treble,

:53:20. > :53:30.making for 15 efforts in all. She has 20 penalty points at the moment

:53:30. > :53:34.

:53:34. > :53:39.penalty points for her right, Asadauskaite will be well pleased

:53:39. > :53:45.with that and it puts her into an excellent position, prior to the

:53:45. > :53:51.combined event. Yes, she is currently leading the competition.

:53:51. > :53:57.And the horse got a little spooked on the way out of the ring. Better

:53:57. > :54:02.on the way out than in the round itself. These horses have been well

:54:02. > :54:08.schooled over these jumps. They can all jump them and they were

:54:08. > :54:12.selected originally from a pool of 150, from all around the country,

:54:12. > :54:16.from stables which are used to providing courses for show jumping

:54:16. > :54:21.and pentathlon competitions. They are used to having unfamiliar

:54:21. > :54:25.riders on their backs but it is all about the chemistry between the

:54:25. > :54:30.horse and rider. That was an extra fence there. This is Samantha

:54:30. > :54:34.Murray, currently lying third in the competition. She was joined

:54:35. > :54:39.16th after the fencing. She was second after the swim. She is a

:54:39. > :54:49.European bronze medallist. What a moment for her as she comes into

:54:49. > :54:49.

:54:49. > :54:59.the ring. This horse was ridden by Chloe Esposito from Australia in

:54:59. > :55:04.

:55:04. > :55:14.experience in riding. Her uncle owns a livery yard. She has grown

:55:14. > :55:51.

:55:51. > :55:59.combination but she gets away with it all. Still Clear at the moment.

:55:59. > :56:09.Just got too close to that. The horse pop in an extra stride. That

:56:09. > :56:11.

:56:11. > :56:19.is two fences down so far. The time penalties are starting to clock up

:56:19. > :56:27.as well. Two offences and 20 time faults as well. It started well for

:56:27. > :56:32.some Myrie who grew up in Lancashire. -- Samantha Murray. At

:56:32. > :56:36.the moment she is third place, only eight seconds off the lead as it

:56:36. > :56:42.stands at the moment. If she can keep her shooting together, she

:56:42. > :56:52.could be in for a podium finish but it will be really tight. We have

:56:52. > :56:52.

:56:52. > :56:57.two more competitors to go here, Yane Marques and Adrienn Toth. What

:56:57. > :57:06.do you think? It is hard to say. It will be such a close and exciting

:57:06. > :57:10.competition. We have some really tough -- top athletes up in the mix.

:57:10. > :57:18.It will be really interesting to see which of the the athletes will

:57:19. > :57:22.be able to hold it together in the shoot. At the moment, it is Laura

:57:22. > :57:29.Asadauskaite in the lead from Lithuania. Amelie Caze is in second

:57:29. > :57:34.place and then Samantha Murray. Iryna Khokhlova is just behind her.

:57:34. > :57:42.We wait to see the last two riders and see if either of those two can

:57:42. > :57:47.take their place in the top three. This is Yane Marques of Brazil.

:57:47. > :57:55.is ranked third in the world. It is her second Olympic Games. She

:57:55. > :58:04.finished 18th in Brazil. This horse was ridden by Sabrina Crognale in

:58:05. > :58:14.the first-round. It is a careful little jumper. But unfortunately,

:58:15. > :58:28.

:58:28. > :58:36.there, Marques needed to keep the fences on the course to get bigger

:58:36. > :58:46.so they are up to height at the end. There were a few hairy moments

:58:46. > :58:56.

:58:56. > :59:00.the front legs. 40 jumping penalties and eight time faults as

:59:00. > :59:05.well. But she held that together pretty well, even though the time

:59:05. > :59:15.was starting to beat her towards the end of it. She will be in

:59:15. > :59:17.

:59:17. > :59:27.second place at the moment. Nora Asadauskaite is still top. -- Laura

:59:27. > :59:37.

:59:37. > :59:44.this combined event. It is no longer a straight run for the

:59:44. > :59:50.finish as it was when Steph won gold in Sydney. There are three

:59:50. > :59:53.kilometres with three lots of five targets with an air pistol to shoot.

:59:53. > :59:58.It is not only a test of the athlete's running ability and

:59:58. > :00:03.shooting ability, but also the ability to keep cool under pressure,

:00:03. > :00:09.to keep their heart rate down and it can really change around in the

:00:09. > :00:19.final section here. David Svoboda of the Czech Republic was the

:00:19. > :00:20.

:00:20. > :00:29.winner of the gold medal yesterday. He had the better run on the hills,

:00:29. > :00:39.a very hilly course around Greenwich Park here. Adrienn Toth

:00:39. > :00:52.

:00:52. > :01:02.than Adam Marosi yesterday who took the bronze medal for Hungary. She

:01:02. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :01:27.points. It will turn it into a very close competition at the top. --

:01:27. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :02:00.more rails down. And another two in That was five rails down, a total

:02:00. > :02:05.of 100 jumping penalties. It will be interesting to see where that

:02:05. > :02:12.puts her overall in the competition. She will be in 5th position. She

:02:12. > :02:15.was the final rider to go here. 1,100 points for Adrienn Toth. She

:02:15. > :02:19.looks disappointed with that because she was in such a good

:02:19. > :02:24.position as the leader going into the riding phase, but it just

:02:24. > :02:28.proves that this is where things are shaken up. We say that the

:02:28. > :02:38.cream does tend to rise at the top and at the top of the leaderboard

:02:38. > :02:42.

:02:42. > :02:49.is Laura Asadauskaite. We will see she's very strong. They raised

:02:49. > :02:56.strong. -- shoot. The Laura Asadauskaite's markings on the same

:02:56. > :03:02.score, so they will set off into the lead. Amelie Caze, only two

:03:02. > :03:09.seconds behind. It is so close at the top. You can't get tighter than

:03:09. > :03:17.that. It really is very, very close. Look up the scores there. That is

:03:17. > :03:25.after the riding. Iryna Khokhlova were the only clear round. Samantha

:03:25. > :03:31.Murray was 13th place. A Elena Rublevska, who led early on, his

:03:31. > :03:36.own the 16th. So, the standings in the riding, in a few moments time,

:03:36. > :03:46.we will be able to tell you the order they will go off in the

:03:46. > :03:51.

:03:51. > :03:56.happiest of times but Mhairi Spence, her hopes of repeating the success

:03:56. > :04:01.she had, have probably gone. We do see that happen in modern

:04:01. > :04:05.pentathlon. Lena Schoneborn, defending champion, right down

:04:05. > :04:14.there in the riding, so they are starting to clear the course away

:04:14. > :04:18.to prepare for the running course. Laura Asadauskaite, top of the

:04:19. > :04:23.leaderboard with Yane Marques, an equal number of points behind her.

:04:23. > :04:28.And then at Amelie Caze, who will go to seconds behind Samantha

:04:28. > :04:33.Murray. She would go eight seconds behind the leader, Adrienn Toth,

:04:33. > :04:37.and Mhairi Spence going down the leaderboard. She is well out of

:04:37. > :04:41.contention at the moment because she has improved her run and he

:04:41. > :04:47.shooting, but she will go 30 seconds behind the leader. It is

:04:47. > :04:53.going to be so fascinating. The very final medals at London 2012

:04:53. > :05:03.will be awarded at a roundabout 6:15pm after the combined event but,

:05:03. > :05:04.

:05:04. > :05:09.A disappointing round there for Mhairi Spence, but Samantha Murray

:05:09. > :05:13.is in a good position. She has got a very good time for the combined,

:05:13. > :05:17.hasn't she? It doesn't look like Laura Asadauskaite will be caught

:05:17. > :05:23.by any body but has a much better time than a Amelie Caze and Yane

:05:23. > :05:27.Marques? Exactly, it will be very exciting. I'm fascinated watching

:05:27. > :05:33.the show jumping phase. Some of them of very, very good riders and

:05:33. > :05:37.others, less so. Some horses are easy and some aren't so it has a

:05:37. > :05:40.morbid fascination for me because so much can go wrong. This is the

:05:40. > :05:44.first time in the Olympic Games this has been combined, and they

:05:44. > :05:49.set off with the leaders going out first. We have joint leader setting

:05:49. > :05:54.off together, so will there be argy-bargy? Would it get quite

:05:54. > :05:57.physical as well? They run for a very short period, they stopped,

:05:57. > :06:01.and then to be shooting at the far end of the arena. They are using

:06:02. > :06:06.electric targets, so not actual bullets, but your accuracy has to

:06:06. > :06:13.be very good. Then they have a one, to run, they come back, should

:06:13. > :06:18.again, and repeated, twice. And the winner will be the first one across

:06:18. > :06:22.the line, so there is huge scope for those who are placed in the top

:06:22. > :06:28.10 to make up ground, because you are the target in front of you. You

:06:28. > :06:35.have got some body you are aiming at. We have seen Steph Cook, when

:06:35. > :06:40.she won in Sydney, you can really, particularly with a crowd and

:06:40. > :06:46.support, I think Samantha Murray will think she could still win it.

:06:46. > :06:51.Yes, she has good competitors ahead affair, and Amelie Caze is dangers,

:06:51. > :06:55.right in the mix. She's thinking it's a big chance. Amelie Caze's

:06:55. > :07:00.personal best is a minute and a half a slower than Samantha

:07:00. > :07:05.Murray's. Shooting will a major effect. That can change day-by-day

:07:05. > :07:10.and that is a real test of your ability to calm yourself down, to

:07:10. > :07:15.get a high adrenalin, and then slow your heart-rate down, take aim at,

:07:15. > :07:19.take your time and fire. The two combined, I think it makes it more

:07:19. > :07:22.unpredictable. Having them next to each other in the shooting, when

:07:22. > :07:26.they are catching up with each other, shoulder to shoulder, will

:07:27. > :07:32.be very interesting. I think it will be gripping, the last gold

:07:32. > :07:35.medal awarded. The last silver medal and bronze medal as well.

:07:35. > :07:42.What a magnificent end to the Olympic Games it would be of great

:07:42. > :07:47.Britain could manage to be on the podium. For Mhairi Spence, her show

:07:47. > :07:52.jumping has cost her dearly and she's an outside bet now but for

:07:52. > :07:56.Samantha Murray it's desperately possible. We will join you for that

:07:56. > :08:01.just before 6pm. Legacy was always a huge part of the London Games and

:08:01. > :08:05.just chatting to friends and family, so many of us already feel inspired.

:08:05. > :08:15.Thousands of people will take up new sports hopefully. If you went

:08:15. > :08:22.

:08:22. > :08:25.to Tooting Bec Lida today you would I don't think anyone can deny the

:08:25. > :08:31.Olympic Games has been a fabulous success, Great Britain's third on

:08:31. > :08:41.the medal table. What about the important legacy? Ian Thorpe is

:08:41. > :08:45.

:08:45. > :08:52.asking the same question in Tooting I like teaching people how to swim.

:08:52. > :08:58.I enjoy it. I don't do it very often. On Friday, I thought, maybe

:08:58. > :09:08.I will offer free swimming lessons. And all of these people came to the

:09:08. > :09:10.

:09:10. > :09:15.Great Britain has done really well in terms of performance but what do

:09:15. > :09:18.you think the legacy should look like for Great Britain? It's a good

:09:18. > :09:21.time to actually have a conversation about it. It's a

:09:21. > :09:27.conversation that happens nationally, which needs to happen

:09:27. > :09:34.between government and also a leap sport. What role we play in this

:09:35. > :09:38.country for years to come? We have to look at the impact Sport has. In

:09:38. > :09:41.terms of an over burgeoning of the health budget, getting people

:09:41. > :09:46.involved in sport and exercise, I don't care what a corner, getting

:09:46. > :09:51.active, will save people money in the future. But I don't care what

:09:51. > :09:57.you call it. Children have been inspired by what they have seen on

:09:57. > :10:02.a television. If they have not been, Britain has a problem. The athletes

:10:02. > :10:09.have done well. What has been great be showcasing so many sports. And

:10:09. > :10:19.people saying, I can try that out. It's just fun, and it's something I

:10:19. > :10:26.It's a good opportunity to be taught proper swimming from an

:10:26. > :10:34.Olympic champion. You can improve so much. Have you seen the future

:10:34. > :10:43.Ian Thorpe? I hope not thought it If you would like to get involved

:10:44. > :10:50.in Olympic sports, go to the I think we would love a view Ian

:10:50. > :10:55.Thorpes here. What a great capacity has been. Baroness Sue Campbell,

:10:55. > :10:59.the chair of UK Sport, has come in to talk about legacy. First of all,

:10:59. > :11:03.the success of UK Sport in terms of the money you put into coaching and

:11:03. > :11:07.athletes for the and seeing the fruition of a here, it's a business

:11:07. > :11:10.where you can measure it, can't you? Yes, it's been fantastic, a

:11:10. > :11:15.ten-year journey to see the performances we have seen here

:11:15. > :11:19.today. The money we have invested as not has been invested in the

:11:19. > :11:23.medals for London, but building a high-performance system that can

:11:23. > :11:29.continue to grow and evolves through to Rio and beyond. That's

:11:29. > :11:32.really important. Legacy is about the next generation. I think we

:11:32. > :11:36.have built something here in high performance terms, which will be a

:11:36. > :11:40.very, very strong, sustainable system, and it would not be

:11:40. > :11:44.possible without the lottery and government money. But it's more

:11:44. > :11:48.than money. It's about building a system which looks at coaching,

:11:48. > :11:52.talent development, research, innovation, sports medicine,

:11:52. > :11:58.science is, all of those things which surround the coaches and

:11:58. > :12:01.athletes to make sure they can produce world-class performances.

:12:01. > :12:06.talk with Ian Thorpe about Australia's dropping off, a little

:12:06. > :12:10.bit, since Sydney. A lot of coaches left, systems were disbanded, and

:12:10. > :12:13.was never as good as people thought. From the outside, it looked like a

:12:13. > :12:18.mystery project going on at the Institute of Sport, but it's

:12:18. > :12:22.important, in a business, a sports organisation, to have some bawdy

:12:22. > :12:27.good at the top. Somebody needs to come through which includes coaches,

:12:27. > :12:32.doesn't it? It does. One of the things we are proudest of in the

:12:32. > :12:36.last 10 years, is we have done a really good work around both play a

:12:36. > :12:41.part ways, really doing a health check of the talent pathway for

:12:41. > :12:46.each sport, but also matching it to really strong, powerful well-

:12:46. > :12:51.managed coaches. So, in the early days, we imported foreign coaches

:12:51. > :12:55.to really help us take a step up, and now we are developing British

:12:55. > :12:59.coaches underneath which can take their place. I think we have built

:12:59. > :13:04.something very special here. A lot of people think somehow this is

:13:04. > :13:08.going to be the moment that we were at our best. I don't think so, I

:13:08. > :13:15.think we can move on. David Cameron has said this morning he will

:13:15. > :13:19.continue to fund be on the 2014. The money was in place until then

:13:19. > :13:26.but now you have assurances that that level of funding will be there

:13:26. > :13:31.until 2016 it. That must be a huge relief? It's massive. Most

:13:31. > :13:35.importantly, its massive to the Sports, because of these four year

:13:35. > :13:38.programmes are exactly what they say, and it's very hard if you

:13:38. > :13:41.start with uncertainty, you may have less money for the following

:13:41. > :13:47.two years, so the Government's announcement today is terrific,

:13:47. > :13:51.very welcome, and the athletes and coaches, and us, we are grateful

:13:51. > :13:56.because we know our planning for the Olympics in Rio can be the best

:13:56. > :13:59.possible. There is tangible evidence which may back up why that

:13:59. > :14:05.may happen because if you look at how host nations of third in the

:14:05. > :14:09.years afterwards, there is a decline -- host nations have fared

:14:09. > :14:15.in the years afterwards, there is a decline. There is a peak in Athens

:14:15. > :14:19.and then a tailing off and even China, the superpower it was in

:14:19. > :14:28.Beijing, has dropped off somewhat. Some of their medals have gone to

:14:28. > :14:34.great Britain. Other nations get stronger. 29 Metals now. A Anthony

:14:34. > :14:41.Joshua one there are heavyweight. was there. How do inshore this not

:14:41. > :14:45.a tailing off. A home crowd stands for lot. Mo Farah said the crowd

:14:45. > :14:50.got him over the line. It's been a contributing factor, so there has

:14:50. > :14:54.to be a slight accounting for that. Powell do make sure it does not

:14:54. > :15:00.take off like Australia? Again, it's about building a system which

:15:00. > :15:04.is very resilient and sustainable. In the past, what Britain has done,

:15:04. > :15:09.it invested in individuals and coaches but not builders system so

:15:09. > :15:13.as those individuals move on, you can continue to build. I think

:15:13. > :15:20.we're in a great place. We have won more medals this time in more

:15:20. > :15:25.sports, which was one of our promises. 16 different sports. Six

:15:25. > :15:28.more than Beijing. This still scope for improvement in some sport and

:15:28. > :15:34.are still sports which are not quite at the World Class level yet

:15:34. > :15:39.but, but the right investment, they can take a step up, I have been in

:15:39. > :15:43.every arena and the home crowd has been immense. They had been immense,

:15:43. > :15:48.not just for athletes, but they're just such a knowledgeable people,

:15:48. > :15:54.it's been a terrific. They have given our athletes an edge, but I'm

:15:54. > :15:59.very positive that we can celebrate where we are, enjoyed, and then

:15:59. > :16:03.push on again until Rio. I think there is a real commitment in the

:16:03. > :16:07.system. Our performance directors and coaches are looking for the

:16:07. > :16:11.next step up, so I'm excited. ultimately take responsibility for

:16:11. > :16:21.what goes on in their sport so if we look at how they fared against

:16:21. > :16:30.

:16:30. > :16:36.their targets, in athletics was a The stand-out sport, which seems to

:16:36. > :16:40.be no where near its target,, you say it's the most disappointing

:16:40. > :16:46.return. They are very disappointed. I sat with a chief executive

:16:46. > :16:50.yesterday and I know they are devastated. They are instigating a

:16:50. > :16:54.review. What we do after every Games is sit down with each sport

:16:54. > :17:00.and have a thorough look at what happened. And what is possible

:17:00. > :17:04.going forward for that judo said the fact they had won medals, was a

:17:04. > :17:14.relief for their funding. It's catch 22 for the desert swimming

:17:14. > :17:18.now get penalised for not attaining its target? It's a conversation we

:17:18. > :17:22.have to have but we introduced no compromise approach, one of the

:17:22. > :17:26.first things I did when I came in, and that's tough, but the world of

:17:26. > :17:29.the elite sport is tough for that I remember after Athens, cutting the

:17:30. > :17:33.gymnastics budget very significantly because they just

:17:33. > :17:38.hadn't got sufficient people in this system to warrant that kind of

:17:38. > :17:42.investment. And look where they are now. They went into Beijing and did

:17:42. > :17:46.well and they are on that trajectory. Sometimes you have to

:17:46. > :17:51.go backwards to go forwards, so it's not about penalising but

:17:51. > :18:01.investing public money in the most effective way to get the best

:18:01. > :18:05.

:18:05. > :18:09.Is that any inquiry that will go on into swimming and is it open?

:18:09. > :18:13.believe in open and transparent ways of working. Everybody

:18:13. > :18:17.understands how we work and how things are invested. And we do that

:18:17. > :18:22.for every sport. Even Dave Brailsford, with all his success,

:18:22. > :18:27.he is still accountable and has to be. He is a wonderful example of

:18:27. > :18:32.somebody who keeps on innovating and pushing on. And we want that in

:18:32. > :18:37.the system. Another strength from the last four years has been how

:18:37. > :18:42.good the sports have been at sharing best practice. Yes, many

:18:42. > :18:52.would love to tap into what Dave Brailsford has done. Yes. Thank you,

:18:52. > :18:57.

:18:57. > :19:00.Sue. In the end, four medals for the athletes in track and field.

:19:00. > :19:09.How would you assess the performance of the team from your

:19:09. > :19:13.perspective across the board? have mixed feelings about it. It is

:19:13. > :19:18.clear we are below eight medals. So a bit mixed about it but there is

:19:18. > :19:25.plenty to celebrate and to remember the iconic moments. We finished in

:19:25. > :19:31.the medal tally, which is exceptional for us. I think we made

:19:31. > :19:34.the nation proud and we can look back at it for a long time.

:19:34. > :19:38.mention the eight medals and it has been well publicised that you said

:19:38. > :19:42.you would consider your position and may be resigned if you did not

:19:42. > :19:49.hit your target. Are you now re- evaluating in light of what you

:19:49. > :19:55.have said, about being in the medal table, and delivering four out of

:19:55. > :20:02.six? It is a slightly different scenario? Yes. It is. I have taken

:20:02. > :20:11.the advice of a few friends and the CEO. We need to go on a break first,

:20:11. > :20:17.for a few weeks. And then take some distance and re-evaluate and look

:20:17. > :20:20.back rationally. So it is something I will get back to in a few weeks.

:20:20. > :20:25.I know you talked about the credibility issue of setting a

:20:25. > :20:35.target and not eating it and then not staying on. I will come back to

:20:35. > :20:36.

:20:36. > :20:46.that. -- not meeting it. Do you think it changes as they thought

:20:46. > :20:48.

:20:48. > :20:52.people's -- changes people's perspective of these Games? We lost

:20:52. > :20:58.our credibility collectively over the last 15 years and I think

:20:58. > :21:03.people are proud now, so I am happy with that. Nevertheless, I have

:21:03. > :21:09.made the point many times, when I was asked, what do you do when the

:21:09. > :21:13.target is not hit? So for me at the moment, it does not change. But I

:21:13. > :21:23.promise to leave that for a while. And I will get back to that when

:21:23. > :21:27.the time is there. Today is about the athletes. That is what they

:21:27. > :21:33.deserve. Charles van Commenee. It will be a bit of time before he

:21:33. > :21:36.makes his decision. Would you like to see him stay on? Yes. He has not

:21:36. > :21:44.been there very long considering how long it takes to shape a

:21:44. > :21:48.performance systems. I think he has brought a discipline and

:21:49. > :21:52.organisation to track and field and he has a huge amount to contribute.

:21:52. > :21:57.We hope he does think very seriously and hopefully he stays

:21:57. > :22:02.with us. We have got the World Athletics Championships in 2017. A

:22:02. > :22:09.great target for him as well as Rio. It would be great to have him with

:22:09. > :22:14.us in the system. And if it is on Saturday, it will be great, because

:22:14. > :22:21.that happens every night! Yes. I don't know that we will see another

:22:21. > :22:25.athlete winning the five and the 10. We all wanted it so much. Special

:22:25. > :22:31.moments and special athletes. What are your stand-out moments? You

:22:31. > :22:35.have been too many venues and seen lots of sports? Probably my most

:22:35. > :22:39.tearful moment was Kath Grainger. I have seen her through three

:22:39. > :22:45.Olympics to get that silver and I know how much this meant. Everybody

:22:45. > :22:50.around me was crying. And such a story coming into this. Everybody

:22:50. > :22:56.was willing her and her partner, Anna Watkins, over the line. Yes!

:22:56. > :23:05.We should not forget her! We are so focused on Kath Grainger. But we

:23:05. > :23:10.think the cycling at the velodrome was immense. Chris's final gold...

:23:10. > :23:15.Yes, that has been mentioned so much. And I loved seeing Nicola win

:23:15. > :23:21.that boxing medal. She won the first ever woman's boxing medal. I

:23:21. > :23:24.saw her do that. And what a wonderful event it has been.

:23:24. > :23:29.Anybody who was not sure about women are on the agenda has been

:23:29. > :23:33.blown away by the standard of the women boxers. Yes. I don't know a

:23:33. > :23:43.great deal about boxing but who was standing around aficionados of the

:23:43. > :23:44.

:23:44. > :23:49.sport and they were saying, this is so good. -- but I was standing. And

:23:49. > :23:56.such a fantastic person to go with it. Working on a building site and

:23:56. > :24:05.here she is in an and Olympic championships. I understand boxing

:24:05. > :24:10.will expand the winning events. I think it will be five. Yes, five by

:24:11. > :24:15.the time we get to Rio. They did very well. I sat next to the

:24:15. > :24:20.chairman at Joshua's fight just now and he kept reminding me how well

:24:20. > :24:24.we have done! So I am sure we will do a review. Thank you so much for

:24:24. > :24:28.coming in. Good luck for the next four years.

:24:28. > :24:37.Let's move on to the final of the men's basketball. Not surprisingly,

:24:37. > :24:42.it is the model of the 2012 US Dream Team. They pass the 100 point

:24:42. > :24:47.barrier in five of their seven games, including an Olympic record

:24:47. > :24:56.of 156 points against Nigeria. They took on Spain today in a climax of

:24:56. > :25:06.what has been a dramatic basketball Welcome to London 2012 and the

:25:06. > :25:18.

:25:18. > :25:25.it! Goes up with the two hands and stuffs it with some anger! This

:25:26. > :25:35.game has been out of control for a while. There's your All-Stars

:25:35. > :25:42.showing up. And Spain has defeated Russia, and they will advance to

:25:42. > :25:52.the gold medal game. Now let's Durant, and he hits it. The actor

:25:52. > :25:57.

:25:57. > :26:07.is a thing of beauty. Team USA is They are out in the Olympic Park to

:26:07. > :26:18.

:26:18. > :26:28.the north of Greenwich arena. The will the US come out? And how will

:26:28. > :26:33.

:26:33. > :26:39.Spain come out and react? Calderon brings the ball up. And Anisya

:26:39. > :26:49.Kirdyapkina gets it from Fernandez. But Chandler came out to shut him

:26:49. > :26:56.out. And now they start over. Navarro driving and then they miss

:26:56. > :27:00.the rebound. It is interesting they chose to pass the ball out. I like

:27:00. > :27:10.that play but instead of a shot you have a shot 15 freed from the

:27:10. > :27:13.

:27:13. > :27:23.basket. That is a tough shot. Nothing but net. Four-point game.

:27:23. > :27:28.

:27:28. > :27:37.Calderon brings it back for Spain. Backing in Ron Tyson Chandler.

:27:37. > :27:40.does that so well. He really does have an arsenal in his post. He

:27:40. > :27:47.started off every quarter closely but that was brilliant defence

:27:47. > :27:57.there. A great hand in the face. Over to James and gives a bumper to

:27:57. > :27:58.

:27:58. > :28:05.Ibaka. Durant tries to stuff it through and he will be fouled. That

:28:05. > :28:12.is his first. And he's going for that from deep. The US bench is up

:28:12. > :28:22.in recognition of that. From about the time he took the stuff to

:28:22. > :28:45.

:28:45. > :28:55.step... Yes, they were anticipating lead for the US. Navarro cutting

:28:55. > :28:55.

:28:55. > :29:05.through. Again, backs in on Chandler. It is in, and the foul on

:29:05. > :29:09.Chandler. One thing it seems is that Paul is more effective on the

:29:09. > :29:16.basket. I think he has a bit of both. But when he faces the basket

:29:16. > :29:21.that is when his quick advantage comes into play. We have seen in

:29:21. > :29:26.previous games, the last game we watched, the bronze medal match, a

:29:26. > :29:32.constant help was coming even if it was not a solid double. It was

:29:32. > :29:39.making the post player think. But this time Gasol has all the time in

:29:39. > :29:49.the world to think about what he is going to do next. No way to go...

:29:49. > :29:49.

:29:49. > :29:59.Fernandez comes down with the rebound and runs. Fernandez looking

:29:59. > :30:02.

:30:02. > :30:07.for a pass. And Spain is in the lead. I have the say, the USA looks

:30:07. > :30:11.a little tight now. Not so free and loose. It is not that that is what

:30:11. > :30:17.I think they need right now but they seem to have a comfortable

:30:17. > :30:22.swagger about their game that is not currently present. Durant is

:30:22. > :30:30.off. Fernandez was boxed out by Gasol. That was a good defensive

:30:30. > :30:40.set from the US. And that came right on the buzzer, as you saw.

:30:40. > :30:41.

:30:41. > :30:51.And Bryant could not get anywhere. That went off his rut. And a bit

:30:51. > :31:01.unlucky there. Because that is not what they wanted. Per -- off his

:31:01. > :31:05.

:31:05. > :31:15.foot. As we always say, until the well is dry... Now, instead of a

:31:15. > :31:25.layer, you get that shot. This ball turns things up for the US. Kevin

:31:25. > :31:30.

:31:30. > :31:40.Love for three. The anti- misses. - - and he misses. Spain is up by

:31:40. > :31:42.

:31:42. > :31:52.three. If anybody was wandering whether that was legitimate, it was.

:31:52. > :32:02.Paul left before James. He picked it up. That is quick. Should not be

:32:02. > :32:11.

:32:11. > :32:19.legal for somebody that big to be went off Toby Bryant. The US does

:32:19. > :32:28.look tight. You are right. Defensively. Rudi Fernandez put his

:32:28. > :32:37.head down and kicked it out. It is that away by it Love. I think

:32:37. > :32:47.that's a good call, too. Maybe you get away with it. But that's a good

:32:47. > :33:09.

:33:59. > :34:09.have got to be able to step up and from seeming like the Spanish team

:34:09. > :34:15.had taken control, but that's good. The USA looking like they were back

:34:15. > :34:19.into it. Back into their rhythm. Both teams are looking as if

:34:19. > :34:27.they're getting the shots they wanted. That's the question for the

:36:01. > :36:20.

:36:20. > :36:27.three. Love has three. Anthony has able to play. In a sense, they

:36:27. > :36:32.could be playing better without him. They have to go with Pau Gasol all

:36:33. > :36:38.the time. Maybe it's a better match up defensively for them. It's not

:36:38. > :36:45.necessarily that I think he's not a good unit on the fraught but he

:36:45. > :36:55.does bring them some toughness on the inside. Lately, the USA have

:36:55. > :36:56.

:36:56. > :37:02.played for the basket unchallenged. Marc Gasol can stop that from

:37:02. > :37:12.happening. A but even it was in the game, he would not be able to step

:37:37. > :37:42.had know why -- I have no idea why he was playing so far too high side.

:37:42. > :37:50.Straight into the basket. Good a shot by Bryant. He's been doing the

:37:50. > :37:58.simple things so well. Remarkable. In this tournament, he's done

:40:00. > :40:00.

:40:00. > :40:05.Rodriguez lost it. Pau Gasol could not get the dinner. Ibaka, he is

:40:05. > :40:12.running the court and it's a two point game. It's been a good

:40:12. > :40:15.recovery by Spain, but if people start watching this game like a

:40:15. > :40:23.tennis match and see the ball going back and forth, back and forth so

:40:23. > :40:33.quickly, that is of the USA's case. Darren Williams, stolen away by a

:40:33. > :40:36.

:40:36. > :40:46.Rodriguez. And Spain's Pau Gasol is taking a rest. They know it's a

:40:46. > :41:00.

:41:00. > :41:07.mismatch. Key we have seen that tightness. 83-80. And there it is.

:41:07. > :41:17.1.5 minutes to play in this third period. Rodriguez. It was kicked by

:41:17. > :41:21.Darren Williams. Spain, on the shot blocked. Do you know what I think

:41:21. > :41:29.will hurt the Spanish team? Every time I watch Pau Gasol, he's got

:41:29. > :41:33.his hands on his knees. He's tired. He's being put on defence. Even in

:41:33. > :41:43.the zone, he's guarding two or three different people and having

:41:43. > :42:15.

:42:15. > :42:25.to recover and offence, he asked to is the break he needed. I don't

:44:19. > :44:26.We Liam's working, working, five on the clock. -- a Williams. Rodriguez

:44:26. > :44:36.picks it up. He will fire a long shot. It comes off the back board.

:44:36. > :44:37.

:44:47. > :44:51.

:44:51. > :45:01.The it's a real cat and mouse encounter. Every time the USA get

:45:37. > :45:42.get two or three passes, each team is getting better looks at the

:45:42. > :45:52.basket. And then they become more stagnant, and both teams looked

:45:52. > :45:57.

:45:57. > :46:02.good. Marc Gasol. He is re-entering the game which is good for Spain. I

:46:02. > :46:05.think they need to go back to basics. Pau Gasol on the post and

:46:05. > :46:15.anybody else in a good space, because that's what worked for them

:46:15. > :46:15.

:46:16. > :46:20.in the first. And they had Juan- Carlos Navarro to carry them

:46:20. > :46:25.through the first quarter. The Spanish team have kept pace with

:46:25. > :46:35.the USA throughout. They have refused to allow the Americans to

:46:35. > :46:53.

:46:53. > :46:59.this tournament, you can talk about cheating are more often than not.

:46:59. > :47:06.The balance of good shooting his defence. Sometimes, bad teamwork.

:47:06. > :47:14.It's about shot selection. And the quality of the defence. Try and get

:47:14. > :47:19.the best possible quality shot even against these good, solid defences.

:47:19. > :47:27.Love was hit after the shot by a Fernandez. He got away with it

:47:27. > :47:32.twice in this game. I'm not sure that's a smart foul. K B Bryant is

:47:32. > :47:42.a Grade should do, but I'm not sure why that's a good idea. -- A Greek

:47:42. > :47:50.

:47:50. > :47:56.there in his face. Just a foul on the elbow there that time. So what

:47:56. > :48:06.was not even like he was going to take him out for the game. Misses

:48:06. > :48:18.

:48:18. > :48:28.he has four. Yes, he does. And that could cause problems for him

:48:28. > :48:32.

:48:32. > :48:42.defensively. He makes the ball. Six minutes to play. And it is now one

:48:42. > :48:44.

:48:44. > :48:49.never for the Gasol brothers. -- now or never. It is a really simple

:48:49. > :48:59.but smart play. They just run across screen with what you would

:48:59. > :49:09.imagine is the primary post guy, Gasol, screaming away from the side.

:49:09. > :49:30.

:49:30. > :49:37.the rebound. Out to Navarro. A double screen. Great pass. That is

:49:37. > :49:47.the set to play their love to work. Yeah, and they do it well. But, boy,

:49:47. > :49:59.

:49:59. > :50:09.do you need to make that shot in does differently. So not quite as

:50:09. > :50:16.bad as when he goes off. Will they stay big or small? I would almost

:50:16. > :50:26.bet they don't go with Chandler. Eight-point game. First ball as we

:50:26. > :50:36.approach the halfway point of the final quarter. Cross-court a Paul.

:50:36. > :50:52.

:50:52. > :50:58.inside. He has just got to play, Durant. Regardless of the foul or

:50:58. > :51:08.not. He has got to get technical or he will be thrown out of this game.

:51:08. > :51:08.

:51:08. > :51:18.He is still on the ground... And that was Bryant with the shot. He

:51:18. > :51:18.

:51:19. > :51:23.hits! Anthony is still feeling the pain. Still hobbling. And this does

:51:23. > :51:27.not suit it either team well. When a player is about to shoot, the

:51:27. > :51:37.defender runs right to buy them rather than trying to get down in

:51:37. > :51:48.

:51:48. > :51:58.front and played deep. -- runs the shot. Antibiotics it in. It is

:51:58. > :52:09.

:52:09. > :52:19.a six-point game again. -- and he Bryant and Spain takes possession

:52:19. > :52:27.

:52:27. > :52:33.again. -- tips it to Bryant. can see he takes a half step back

:52:33. > :52:39.because he knows both US players are going to come in. Then he is in

:52:39. > :52:49.perfect position. But if Bryant had pursued, too, he would have been

:52:49. > :52:51.

:52:51. > :52:56.there to stop it. And that defence was picture-perfect on Bryant.

:52:56. > :53:06.But that pass was definitely errant. You have to teach players to get

:53:06. > :53:15.into a position where you can foul. He had to move into the passing no.

:53:15. > :53:22.Yes. And my question is, previously, they inbound the ball and if you

:53:22. > :53:27.are up by 10 with four minutes to play, were due not on the clock to

:53:27. > :53:36.not start immediately and used as much time as you could? -- would

:53:36. > :53:44.you not want the clock? I have a feeling most of those guys know

:53:44. > :53:52.something I don't, though! The US up by six with three minutes to

:53:52. > :53:56.play. A high-scoring game by both teams in this Olympic final. Spain

:53:56. > :54:06.have two silver medals in their Olympic history, including the one

:54:06. > :54:07.

:54:07. > :54:17.from Beijing four years ago. The pass was deflected by Durant and

:54:17. > :54:28.

:54:28. > :54:34.there will be 12 seconds on the brothers and Carlos Navarro. In and

:54:34. > :54:42.out. They tried to keep it him play but only as far as Durant. You saw

:54:42. > :54:51.that there. That is a hard ball. Yes. That is OK. And that is how

:54:51. > :54:58.the game is played. Gasol is now going with the up and under. So he

:54:58. > :55:06.has just got to go back to the sweeping ball, the one-piece moved.

:55:06. > :55:16.That is what you don't want to do! Create a one-way system for them.

:55:16. > :55:26.

:55:26. > :55:32.And by that I mean "wow"! A double and it was good. Great pass behind

:55:32. > :55:39.the back to Gasol. They have had a number of star performances and

:55:40. > :55:48.they're doing everything they can. What you were saying before, Gasol

:55:48. > :55:58.cannot challenge, not that he would want to, because he has four forts.

:55:58. > :55:58.

:55:58. > :56:08.And he'd get sit through. Six points. -- and he gets it through.

:56:08. > :56:08.

:56:08. > :56:18.Over two minutes to play. The US slowing things up. Per boy, this

:56:18. > :56:22.

:56:22. > :56:31.feels dangerous! He hits it! James for three. That is huge.

:56:31. > :56:36.STUDIO: Well, the lead proved unassailable in the end. The USA's

:56:37. > :56:41.20th Olympic gold in the basketball. It is closer than the final they

:56:41. > :56:51.had against Spain four years ago. They are catching up, but the USA,

:56:51. > :56:53.

:56:53. > :57:02.just so dominant. James, the MBA star, enjoying his Olympic medal.

:57:02. > :57:10.And Bryant, both of them huge global stars. And afterwards, he

:57:10. > :57:15.Once again, you have got a gold medal around your neck and I can

:57:15. > :57:21.see from the smile on your face what this means to you guys! Yes.

:57:21. > :57:28.To be here now, representing our country, it is unbelievable.

:57:28. > :57:38.have you guys gel to become such a great team? We know about you

:57:38. > :57:43.individually but together? We share the ball and to try to take the

:57:43. > :57:48.shots. If and you have got such support. How much have you enjoyed

:57:48. > :57:54.being in London? It has been great. London has done a fantastic job for

:57:54. > :57:59.the Games. The City has done a fantastic job. I saw you getting a

:57:59. > :58:07.bit emotional at the final. Can you tell us why this is so tearful for

:58:07. > :58:13.you? This is my last round. So it is always emotional. Time flies!

:58:13. > :58:20.Here I am now, and it is just a great opportunity to be able to

:58:20. > :58:25.enjoy it. And you have been a hero to so many. Can you tell us what it

:58:25. > :58:31.means to have had those Stars and Stripes on your Jersey? It just

:58:31. > :58:37.means so much. A dream come true. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the gold

:58:37. > :58:46.medal. You are Olympic champions again. A thank you.

:58:46. > :58:50.Well done, USA. There is a bit of movement around the Olympic Park.

:58:50. > :58:53.The French and Swedish teams have been in the Basketball Arena and we

:58:53. > :58:59.also suspect people are coming in now for the Closing Ceremony as

:58:59. > :59:03.well, and you cannot see this, but I have seen some shots of what is

:59:03. > :59:08.going on in the stadium at the moment. They are rehearsing and you

:59:08. > :59:12.have probably seen the Spice girls photos in the papers. I have just

:59:12. > :59:19.seen a bit of a rendition of what they are going to do. It is going

:59:19. > :59:22.to be an amazing show. Let's bring you the headlines of today.

:59:22. > :59:27.Super-heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has clinched Great Britain's

:59:27. > :59:33.29th gold medal of these Games it after the Italian appeal from his

:59:33. > :59:39.opponent was rejected. But Welsh boxer Fred Evans had to

:59:39. > :59:43.settle for silver of a comprehensive 79 defeat by his

:59:43. > :59:52.opponent in the welterweight final. The winner was absolutely

:59:52. > :59:58.magnificent. And Stephen Kiprotich became the

:59:58. > :00:01.victor in the men's marathon over the much-fancied Kenyans.

:00:01. > :00:05.The final medal of the Olympic Games is going to be given away in

:00:05. > :00:10.the next half-hour, and Clare Balding is at North Greenwich for

:00:10. > :00:19.the combined event of the women's modern Pentathlon, and Samantha

:00:19. > :00:24.Murray is in a really good position, Clare? Yes, she is. The leader from

:00:24. > :00:31.Lithuania is very, very strong, so it would be quite a turnaround for

:00:31. > :00:37.Sam Murray to win this. But what a fantastic way to finish the Games.

:00:37. > :00:41.Remember, the women's Pentathlon only came in in 2000 in Sydney, and

:00:41. > :00:47.Britain won gold on that occasion, Stephanie Cook making up bags of

:00:47. > :00:52.time. Then it was a shrewd followed by a run. Now those are combined,

:00:52. > :01:02.and you can see the competitors sorting themselves out. -- it was a

:01:02. > :01:07.shooting event. Sam Moray, eight seconds behind the leaders. They

:01:07. > :01:16.stop to shoot and it is a laser gun and an electronic bleep registered

:01:16. > :01:21.sued. Then they run for a 1,000 metres and then come back to shoot.

:01:22. > :01:31.The winner will be the first one to cross the line. Here we go. The

:01:32. > :01:43.

:01:43. > :01:48.shooting range. Shortly, you will see Sam Murray of Great Britain

:01:48. > :01:58.lining up in position number four. And it is all about getting those

:01:58. > :02:05.

:02:05. > :02:12.Yane Marques is out before her. You can see the likes of Murray. She

:02:12. > :02:19.manages to get out of the range. But a good lead already for Yane

:02:19. > :02:24.Marques. What kind of a runner is our current leader? Not the best

:02:24. > :02:30.runner in the field, Yane Marques. Her best time for this event is

:02:30. > :02:38.about one minute slower than the top in this event. So I would

:02:38. > :02:45.expect her to be caught by some of the faster runners. Certainly

:02:45. > :02:51.Murray is a stronger runner, as is Amelie Caze. But she benefited from

:02:51. > :02:57.that shoot. She is building up a commanding lead already. This is a

:02:57. > :03:03.very hilly course. She has run out of the arena in front of us in

:03:04. > :03:09.Greenwich Park and she is on a wave. Don't forget that further down the

:03:09. > :03:19.leaderboard was Mhairi of Spence, 14th going into this final combined

:03:19. > :03:27.

:03:28. > :03:32.Asadauskaite chasing up the Hill, trying to catch up with Yane

:03:32. > :03:37.Marques. They are out on to the hilly part of the course in

:03:37. > :03:42.Greenwich Park. It will benefit the better runners in the field. The

:03:42. > :03:50.times will be slower than we might be expecting to see because of the

:03:50. > :03:54.nature of the course. That was a glimpse of one of the British girls

:03:54. > :04:01.- that was Mhairi Spence. The final runners are heading out into the

:04:01. > :04:06.firing range. It has become a very different test. Not only is it

:04:06. > :04:11.about running three kilometres as fast as you can, it is about going

:04:11. > :04:15.into the shooting range, keeping your nerve, firing at the targets

:04:15. > :04:22.and getting back out what others around you are coming in. Perhaps

:04:22. > :04:28.your nearest rivals are right next year and not shooting down the

:04:28. > :04:35.targets. Yane Marques comes back into the stadium in front of us. We

:04:35. > :04:40.will be able to see her very shortly. She is followed by Laura

:04:40. > :04:44.Asadauskaite. The Lithuanian is making a good time already on Yane

:04:44. > :04:49.Marques. Normally I would expect Laura Asadauskaite to shoot better

:04:49. > :04:59.than she had. There was Samantha Murray going past her. Some of the

:04:59. > :05:04.

:05:04. > :05:11.athletes coming through now. The Australian is another one to look

:05:11. > :05:21.out for. Coming into the stadium, Laura Asadauskaite closing up on

:05:21. > :05:22.

:05:22. > :05:28.Yane Marques. Yen Marquette -- Yane Marques had a great shoot. She is

:05:28. > :05:33.back out into the lead. The world number one, the leader in this

:05:33. > :05:38.field. 1000 metres completed. They are coming back in for the second

:05:38. > :05:43.session of shooting now. It is all now about keeping their nerve.

:05:43. > :05:48.Their heart rates will be high. Breathing rates will be higher.

:05:48. > :05:54.They will be used to shooting under these sorts of conditions. Samantha

:05:54. > :06:00.Murray is coming into the shooting range. She will be in position

:06:00. > :06:06.number four. Laura Asadauskaite and back cat as well is Yane Marques.

:06:06. > :06:12.It is a battle between these are two as well. That is more of the

:06:12. > :06:22.issued we would have expected from her. She earned the midst a couple

:06:22. > :06:30.of shots. Sam is a wave from the range and again. We can hear the

:06:30. > :06:35.applause from the crowd. -- at Sam is away from the range again.

:06:35. > :06:40.a nerve-racking end to the modern pentathlon Dave. We got under way

:06:40. > :06:46.it on the fencing and then it was into the swimming pool. Then there

:06:46. > :06:53.riding phase and now the combined man and shoot. It only became part

:06:53. > :06:58.of the Olympics in Beijing when it was a straight run to the line.

:06:58. > :07:04.They have had to adapt themselves to this particular discipline and

:07:04. > :07:09.the demands it makes on embodies. Samantha Murray is starting to run

:07:09. > :07:13.up those hills. The British team have been training at altitude in

:07:13. > :07:20.the French Pyrenees. This course should not hold any fears for some

:07:20. > :07:30.and the married. Laura Asadauskaite is starting to take the lead from

:07:30. > :07:46.

:07:46. > :07:52.World Championships in Rome. She was run down on the cause that day

:07:52. > :07:58.by Mhairi Spence. She has had a disappointing day by her standards.

:07:58. > :08:05.She really struggled with the horse she was given. We are seeing Laura

:08:05. > :08:12.Asadauskaite now. I think this is our leader and she looks so

:08:12. > :08:21.confident. This is a specialism for her. She became a mother last year.

:08:21. > :08:24.Two years ago. She has the young daughter. She is married to a

:08:24. > :08:31.format modern pentathlon world champion and Olympic silver and

:08:31. > :08:36.bronze medallist. There is Samantha Murray in third place at the moment.

:08:36. > :08:42.She has to go into the shooting range one more time and hit those

:08:42. > :08:52.five targets. Britain has a very proud record since it became an

:08:52. > :09:00.

:09:00. > :09:06.Murray as she comes into the stadium. They ran at a little loop

:09:06. > :09:11.of the course. Yane Marques is in second place. Samantha Murray is

:09:11. > :09:19.closing all the time on Yane Marques. She has trained so hard.

:09:19. > :09:24.She is so determined. She really is. She will be giving it her all. Her

:09:24. > :09:28.running has improved immensely. It is a question of her being able to

:09:28. > :09:38.hold it together on the range in the shoot was stabbed here comes

:09:38. > :09:39.

:09:39. > :09:45.the Laura Asadauskaite now. -- in a shoot. This is the final Test. She

:09:45. > :09:51.has one down, two down. She is really hitting these targets

:09:51. > :09:58.absolutely. That is four down. The pressure is on Yane Marques. She

:09:58. > :10:03.has to control her breathing and hit the targets. Samantha Murray is

:10:03. > :10:08.in a shooting range as well. Laura Asadauskaite is leaving the range.

:10:08. > :10:15.She is well out ahead. Yane Marques is struggling with her shoe.

:10:15. > :10:21.Samantha Murray has four down. She has five Dan. She would chase after

:10:21. > :10:26.the Brazilian, Yane Marques. Now it is a race to the line. Samantha

:10:26. > :10:33.Murray is in the silver-medal position at the moment. She is 22

:10:33. > :10:39.years old. From Nick Clitheroe in Lancashire. She has grown up in the

:10:39. > :10:45.Lancashire countryside. She is so good at this modern pentathlon.

:10:45. > :10:50.Laura Asadauskaite of Lithuania is out in front. She is the leader. It

:10:50. > :10:55.would be astonishing for Samantha Murray to run her down from here.

:10:55. > :11:01.The hills are taking a toll on the legs. Laura Asadauskaite is

:11:01. > :11:07.starting to breed a bit here. Her husband is a former Olympic silver

:11:07. > :11:13.and bronze medallist. Samantha Murray is in second place. Yane

:11:13. > :11:19.Marques is behind her - not that far behind her. Samantha Murray is

:11:20. > :11:25.going down health. She knows where the arena is. It is just to the

:11:25. > :11:30.left. When she re-enters the arena in Greenwich, you will hear the

:11:30. > :11:35.crowd roar her home. There is Laura Asadauskaite, the leader on the

:11:35. > :11:40.final loop of this grassy, hilly course in Greenwich Park. What a

:11:40. > :11:47.wonderful venue this has been at the Olympic Games. She has a

:11:47. > :11:53.massive lead. Up where is Samantha marry? She is out in the

:11:53. > :12:01.countryside. -- Samantha Mario Sepulveda. Laura Asadauskaite, as

:12:01. > :12:08.she comes round, she will take the final loop into the arena. That is

:12:08. > :12:14.the Chinese athlete, further back in the field. That looks like

:12:14. > :12:20.Samantha Murray with Yane Marques behind her. As Laura Asadauskaite

:12:21. > :12:27.makes her way round, she will come into the arena in a few moments,

:12:27. > :12:33.just up the final Hill. Round the course. She enters the arena now,

:12:33. > :12:40.Laura Asadauskaite, of Lithuania. The Olympic champion elect. She

:12:40. > :12:44.will be making her way round the course now. She is already

:12:44. > :12:50.celebrating. Here comes Samantha Murray. She is entering the arena.

:12:50. > :12:54.You will hear the crowd for her in in a few moments. Yane Marques is

:12:54. > :12:59.behind her comeback in the bronze- medal position. The Lithuanian is

:12:59. > :13:06.going to win gold. Samantha Murray is in the stadium now. You can hear

:13:06. > :13:10.the crowd cheering her on. The flags are waiting for her. She is

:13:11. > :13:15.following Laura Asadauskaite around the course. Yane Marques is not

:13:15. > :13:21.that far behind her. Samantha Murray has a silver medal in her

:13:22. > :13:27.sights. She is very close. Laura Asadauskaite crosses the line

:13:27. > :13:36.Ingold medal position. It is still there for Samantha married. She is

:13:36. > :13:44.a true Lancashire lass pulls up -- it is a silver medal for Samantha

:13:45. > :13:52.Murray. After 16 remarkable days of competition, it is a 65th Olympic

:13:52. > :13:57.Madog for Samantha Murray. The tradition of modern pentathlon for

:13:57. > :14:05.British women is continued. Samantha Murray is an Olympic

:14:05. > :14:10.silver medallist. As we watch the other athletes crossing the

:14:10. > :14:16.finishing line, Laura Asadauskaite looks like she has gone for a

:14:16. > :14:22.stroll in the park. Samantha Murray got the bronze medal in the World

:14:22. > :14:26.Championships. She always had it in her mind that an Olympic medal was

:14:26. > :14:36.possible. We're going to seek Mhairi Spence entering the arena

:14:36. > :14:37.

:14:37. > :14:46.shortly. Laura Asadauskaite taking the gold medal. We're going to see

:14:46. > :14:51.Leena Schoneborn as well entering the stadium. She is being applauded

:14:51. > :15:00.across the line by the spectators. A Mhairi Spence, 21st in the

:15:00. > :15:06.Olympic Games was not her target. Samantha Murray, at just 22 years

:15:06. > :15:12.old, is an Olympic silver medallist. Steph Cook, you have held it

:15:12. > :15:17.together so well today. Just tell us was dug you must be so proud

:15:17. > :15:25.that the tradition you started in Sydney has been continued. -- just

:15:25. > :15:30.tell us. For Sam to come and take the silver medal, it was fantastic.

:15:30. > :15:36.She did not have the best start this morning that has put it right.

:15:36. > :15:43.She held it together so well on the shooting range. The pressure must

:15:43. > :15:50.have been immense. In the running, she gave it her off. She overhauled

:15:50. > :15:59.Yane Marques. Laura Asadauskaite, a worthy winner. Just to match left

:15:59. > :16:06.to do to close in on Laura Asadauskaite. -- just too much to

:16:06. > :16:15.do. It takes so much out are the athletes. The sport was founded 100

:16:15. > :16:21.years ago. The history of British women's modern pentathlon is such a

:16:21. > :16:26.great one. It continues here in London. It is suitable that this

:16:26. > :16:32.most hysterics bought at the Olympic Games - the modern

:16:32. > :16:38.pentathlon - produces the final medallist. Samantha Murray hugs her

:16:38. > :16:48.supporters in the crowd. We can all feel very proud of 22-year-old

:16:48. > :16:56.

:16:56. > :17:01.When she was a teenager she was kicked out of the programme. She

:17:01. > :17:08.was not sure if she wanted to continue. She got advice from a

:17:08. > :17:14.sports psychologist. She found love again for her sport. She dug deeper.

:17:14. > :17:23.She attacked those hills. What fantastic scenes at Greenwich

:17:23. > :17:28.today! I had to say, a gold medal to the crowd. They were sensational.

:17:28. > :17:34.They helped her chase down the leaders, at moving up from 4th to

:17:34. > :17:40.second place. This medal rush for Great Britain, which started with

:17:40. > :17:44.Lizzie Armistead in the road race, now finishing with a fabulous

:17:45. > :17:50.silver medal for Samantha Murray in the modern pentathlon. Four years

:17:50. > :17:57.ago she was working in a cafe, watching the Beijing Olympics on

:17:57. > :18:02.television. Her absolute idol is Steph Cook. She won the first gold

:18:02. > :18:07.in the modern pentathlon. It was the first time they could compete

:18:07. > :18:14.in 2000. Great Britain is the any country to have won medals in the

:18:14. > :18:18.modern pentathlon and every single time. What a gruelling, exciting

:18:18. > :18:22.competition. Having watched the showjumping and then to see then

:18:22. > :18:25.set off as they do, the pressure of standing next to each other to

:18:25. > :18:29.shoot and knowing that the person next to you is getting their

:18:29. > :18:34.targets and setting off again and tried to chase them down and there

:18:34. > :18:40.hills as well, coming in here to run on the surface designed for the

:18:40. > :18:45.dress such horses and show jumpers, quite difficult. It has bring in it.

:18:46. > :18:55.To finish in this arena in Greenwich is so appropriate. A

:18:56. > :19:00.

:19:00. > :19:05.And you can see how things can change so quickly, with

:19:05. > :19:12.Asadauskaite. The whole competition, Murray had a difficult ride and a

:19:12. > :19:18.difficult fence. So things can change through the day? Yes. You

:19:18. > :19:23.are right. What a difficult horse Spence had to ride. Not an awful

:19:23. > :19:29.lot she could do about it. 104 penalty points in the showjumping.

:19:29. > :19:34.I was worried for Sam Murray as well. She had eight seconds off the

:19:34. > :19:39.pace, but, my word, she has come through strongly. I am hoping we

:19:39. > :19:47.will grab a word with her as she comes through before going on to

:19:47. > :19:51.the final medal presentation. It is quite emotional! I might ask you to

:19:51. > :19:55.tap into your favourite moments. But if anybody can grab her, you

:19:55. > :20:00.can! I will be back with you shortly.

:20:00. > :20:05.So, 29 gold medals for Great Britain. It has been Alan pigs that

:20:05. > :20:15.has provided us with countless inspirational moments. -- it has

:20:15. > :20:26.

:20:26. > :20:35.# I'm going to call that number, so far across the sea, # I wish I were

:20:35. > :20:44.in my land, that is where I want to # That is where I want to be.

:20:45. > :20:50.And it is great Britain's first gold medal of this Olympics!

:20:50. > :20:56.# Please don't you forget me, I am so in love with you.

:20:56. > :21:06.# It won't be long now, even though I know, # Eyes seemed to leave my

:21:06. > :21:06.

:21:07. > :21:15.heart behind me every time I go. # I am going to call that numbers

:21:15. > :21:22.so far across the sea... You are an Olympic champion!

:21:22. > :21:27.Olympic gold! The crowd were absolutely incredible! This is what

:21:27. > :21:33.I have dreamt of my entire life! The look at the crowd, every seat

:21:33. > :21:37.is taken and it is filled with Union flags. I am just taken away.

:21:37. > :21:47.Unbelievable! It has just been an amazing experience. Just listening

:21:47. > :21:49.

:21:49. > :21:54.to the crowd. # I am thinking of you, lover.

:21:54. > :22:01.# May be when it's over... Both Brownlee brothers on the Olympic

:22:01. > :22:10.podium. # I am going to call that number,

:22:10. > :22:16.so far across the sea. # It is where I want to be. They

:22:16. > :22:26.have gold! Farah is going to make it two gold medals for Great

:22:26. > :22:29.

:22:29. > :22:39.Britain! What a ride by Trott! # It's where I want to be. I am

:22:39. > :22:49.just shocked. Everybody is supporting me so much. It has just

:22:49. > :22:50.

:22:50. > :22:55.been the most unbelievable Emotional, exhilarating, heart

:22:55. > :23:00.warming. Plenty more of that coming up this evening, I promise you. But

:23:00. > :23:06.Clare has caught up with a final medallist, the silver medallist in

:23:06. > :23:16.the women's modern Pentathlon, Sam Gary Neville stop here is the

:23:16. > :23:18.

:23:18. > :23:24.Finnistere list of London 2012. Sam at Murray. The final silver

:23:24. > :23:30.medallist. I am so pleased. My legs, I kept running, they kept running

:23:30. > :23:36.for me! Up the hills as well. They were so steeple stop and I just

:23:36. > :23:41.kept working so hard. This Games has inspired a generation. Just

:23:41. > :23:46.explain what you have done to get to here? Four years ago, I was

:23:46. > :23:51.still at school. I was training but by no means performing at

:23:51. > :23:56.international level. I went to the University of Bath in September

:23:56. > :24:00.2008 and that is when my coach, Emma, took me up. And since then I

:24:00. > :24:07.have just progressed through the ranks, made the team. And I made it

:24:07. > :24:13.to the Olympic Games. A lot of hard work. So, yeah, if you're goal,

:24:13. > :24:20.anything you want to achieve in life, don't let anybody get in your

:24:20. > :24:25.way because you can do it. Find the path you want in life and stick to

:24:25. > :24:34.wit and achieve it. I am a normal girl. Anybody can do anything they

:24:34. > :24:42.want to do! Auto fantastic message of. Thank you so much to everybody,

:24:42. > :24:51.UK Sport, my coach, all the squad. Everybody at the training village.

:24:51. > :24:56.My family, thank you, everybody. I love you all.

:24:56. > :25:06.You are right, Clare for Stockport a grim message. Athletes taking

:25:06. > :25:06.

:25:06. > :25:12.what they have done. -- you are right, Clare, what a great message.

:25:12. > :25:16.What has encapsulated this for you? I think in terms of big messages, a

:25:17. > :25:21.lot of people seeing strong, powerful, competitive swimming

:25:21. > :25:31.through these Games. The message that, if you first don't succeed,

:25:31. > :25:38.

:25:38. > :25:45.try, try again. But also the moment for its, -- for its comedy man U,

:25:45. > :25:54.Chad's dad. --, devalued. He was still hot with the paternal passion

:25:54. > :25:57.of success. The way he reacted to the shots of his son. For me that

:25:57. > :26:03.was a moment you don't get very often he and I think it connected

:26:03. > :26:07.with everybody. And think parents have made me cry more than anybody

:26:07. > :26:11.else, because the pride and joy they get out of seeing their

:26:11. > :26:17.children, knowing what they have done to get to here, it never fails

:26:17. > :26:20.to get the eyes watering ever-so- slightly! But, Clare, you have been

:26:20. > :26:26.at the heart of so many great moments and thank you so much. You

:26:26. > :26:29.will be here tonight with so many unsung heroes, the volunteers. And

:26:29. > :26:33.anybody who has a privileged come to any of the venues, the

:26:33. > :26:39.volunteers have been integral to making this such a successful Games.

:26:39. > :26:44.So you will be getting them on the telly later? Yes. A he it seems

:26:44. > :26:48.quite a long time ago Britain won its first gold medal of the Games.

:26:48. > :26:52.It was Helen Glover and Heather Stanning at Eton Dorney. The

:26:52. > :26:56.regatta was over and they had time on their hands, so they headed into

:26:56. > :27:06.town and Gary Richards caught up with them. And he was influential

:27:06. > :27:11.

:27:11. > :27:19.enough to get them an appointment Olympic champions! They have pumped

:27:19. > :27:24.the air. They shake their heads. Great Britain have the Olympic

:27:24. > :27:34.champions and it could not have gone to two more worthy women. We

:27:34. > :27:40.So, you have not only won Britain's first gold medals of the Olympics

:27:40. > :27:46.but you also get a visit Buckingham Palace. This is so surreal. It has

:27:46. > :27:53.been brilliant! We're going through the front door as well, not the

:27:53. > :27:58.trade entrance. That is incredible. A real honour. It looks slightly

:27:58. > :28:02.different from this side. It is absolutely massive, isn't it?

:28:02. > :28:07.moment, when they put the gold medal around your neck, can you

:28:07. > :28:10.relive that for us? Well, I was crying like a baby and she was

:28:10. > :28:16.singing the national anthem at the top of her lungs! I was

:28:16. > :28:22.concentrating on not breaking down. But we were stood in front of our

:28:22. > :28:27.friends and family, right in front of us, just watching our flag go up

:28:27. > :28:37.as the national anthem played. It was amazing.

:28:37. > :28:41.This is the grand staircase, and, my goodness, it is grand. And this

:28:41. > :28:47.is where you would come if you were visiting a state occasion, a ball,

:28:48. > :28:57.for example. It is beautiful. wouldn't want to be the window-

:28:57. > :29:02.cleaner here! Don't know how you get to it! Your race, you lead from

:29:02. > :29:08.start to finish. That moment, what was it like? As good as you thought

:29:08. > :29:13.it would be? Yes, more. The moment we heard the cheering from the

:29:13. > :29:19.crowds, that is when we knew. It was phenomenal. All did you say to

:29:19. > :29:28.one another at that moment? Can you remember? -- what did you say?

:29:28. > :29:38.said, sorry, because she knocked my sunglasses off my head! I said, it

:29:38. > :29:41.is fine. But I kept saying, we have done it! I was in disbelief. These

:29:41. > :29:45.belonged to Queen Elizabeth and they would have been commissioned

:29:45. > :29:51.for the coronation of Her Majesty the Queen. And they would have been

:29:51. > :29:59.placed in Westminster Abbey. That reminds me of Only Fools and

:29:59. > :30:04.horses! That chandelier! Not a bad fireplace, is it? A chance to think

:30:04. > :30:09.and reflect about what you did. How much have you been doing that?

:30:09. > :30:15.catch pictures of ourselves or secrets on television. -- we catch

:30:15. > :30:24.a. A few quiet moments but not many. A bit of a whirlwind as well.

:30:24. > :30:31.you got a scrapbook? You ice, my parents gave -- yes, my parents

:30:31. > :30:40.gave me one but I think it has overflowed in the last few days!

:30:40. > :30:50.Thank you. And we see your medals? Of course you can. It is really

:30:50. > :30:54.heavy, isn't it? Were crying! as well. A fantastic song. It is

:30:54. > :31:02.the last one I listen to before we went out in the Olympics. I really

:31:02. > :31:07.like it. It was a really uplifting song, for the Queen and the

:31:07. > :31:17.Commonwealth. It gets you in the moment. It gives you a bit of

:31:17. > :31:20.something in the heart. Lots of gold in there! And people will want

:31:20. > :31:25.to keep on having a little look at their medals over the months and

:31:25. > :31:29.weeks ahead. No doubt, there are still celebrating. But there is

:31:30. > :31:36.another side to win in gold when all of hard work has paid off and

:31:36. > :31:40.the moment of triumph has passed. It is sometimes not the fairy-tale

:31:40. > :31:45.ending. The top of an Olympic podium is, in

:31:45. > :31:49.many ways, the ultimate destination in sport. It is the dream of

:31:49. > :31:56.millions and the privilege of just a tiny few. But it begs a question

:31:56. > :32:05.- what does winning gold actually feel like? You imagine life is

:32:05. > :32:10.going to be changed and you are going to be hugely rich and famous.

:32:10. > :32:20.It is. Everybody imagines it is. At a I didn't sleep for weeks. Weeks!

:32:20. > :32:26.

:32:26. > :32:32.Perhaps we do mythologise what it is to win gold. We are seen getting

:32:32. > :32:39.to the top of the podium is like a fairy tale. Is human psychology

:32:39. > :32:45.quite so simple? I remember being chauffeured back in the bus to the

:32:45. > :32:51.athletes village. I did all my press conferences. I was thinking,

:32:51. > :33:01.what are you going to do now? You have done it. What are you going to

:33:01. > :33:01.

:33:02. > :33:08.do now? That made me kind of a bit depressed. Fantastic. We had won.

:33:08. > :33:16.The whole world is moving on. There is another event coming and we have

:33:16. > :33:23.to go. You make no plans after your event finishes. For many sports

:33:23. > :33:30.people, winning gold is not just an occupational ambition, it is a

:33:30. > :33:36.motivation. Coaches demand nothing left -- less. Is it any wonder so

:33:36. > :33:41.many gold medal winners feel an overpowering sense of emptiness?

:33:41. > :33:46.Their entire life is wrapped up in getting this one thing. They

:33:46. > :33:51.believe this will be the answer. They need to get there. The lucky

:33:51. > :33:57.ones get there and find heard it is not. Then they looked in the right

:33:57. > :34:02.place to find satisfaction and happiness. It is not wrapped up in

:34:02. > :34:06.a gold medal. It does not mean all other aspects of your life are set

:34:06. > :34:12.and you are not going to have another problem in life. It is odd

:34:12. > :34:17.for me, having lost my face, to quote the Bible. Without vision,

:34:17. > :34:22.people perish. If you do not have something to lead you on, the

:34:22. > :34:28.journey finishes. Three hours after the race, I was in the Olympic

:34:28. > :34:36.village, on the end of my bed with my Olympic gold medal in my hand. I

:34:36. > :34:42.thought, that is it. I have done it. Winning is undeniably and publicly

:34:42. > :34:48.a highlight. It is as high as you can go up in almost any Olympic

:34:48. > :34:53.sport. Everything else will be down. A sense of anti-climax is not

:34:53. > :34:59.exclusive to sport. National lottery winners have talked about

:34:59. > :35:04.extreme lows after the initial high. Perhaps this is not a bad thing.

:35:04. > :35:10.Maybe a lull hopes -- helps to set someone up for the next challenge,

:35:10. > :35:14.the next summit. Maybe this is the ambition of so many great sports

:35:14. > :35:20.people - that they go for their next gold medal so soon after

:35:20. > :35:25.winning the last one. If you work euphoric for ever, it would be like

:35:25. > :35:31.having the best steak to eat. You pick your best meal but it is a

:35:31. > :35:38.curse to have that for the rest of your life. There is not a set way

:35:38. > :35:43.to react to victory or defeat. We respond differently. If athletes

:35:43. > :35:49.were to force a motion, that is the problem. Except how you feel at

:35:49. > :35:55.that moment. That is OK. If you have never achieved that great

:35:55. > :36:00.level of success, how you know how you feel? At one level, it is

:36:00. > :36:05.obvious that the gold medal is not a panacea for life itself. Just

:36:05. > :36:11.because an athlete is fantastic at sport, does not mean they will have

:36:11. > :36:15.all the answers that lie beyond the field of play. I cannot imagine

:36:15. > :36:21.that I would not have just a little bit of a smile and a good feeling

:36:21. > :36:27.when I think about that moment when I won Olympic gold medal so. Does

:36:27. > :36:33.that make everything else in my life perfect? Absolutely not.

:36:33. > :36:39.of the greatest sportsmen look back with pride on the sending the top

:36:39. > :36:45.of the podium. Many others have expectations that simply cannot be

:36:46. > :36:49.met. If it is not a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, what is?

:36:49. > :36:54.What has been really fascinating in presenting the evening show is

:36:54. > :37:00.seeing some of the medallists coming in to make up almost hours

:37:00. > :37:06.after they have won their medals. For some, it is relief and others,

:37:06. > :37:12.joy. It depends on expectation. Tom Daley yesterday with the smile on

:37:12. > :37:19.his face. Michael Johnson was looking at him. He was speeding off

:37:20. > :37:24.that smile and tapping into his own emotions. -- feeding. It has been a

:37:24. > :37:29.privilege. The Olympic stadium is a hive of activity in preparation for

:37:29. > :37:35.tonight's closing ceremony. None of the bands are rehearsing at the

:37:35. > :37:40.moment. It is a veritable feast of British musical talent over the

:37:40. > :37:46.last 30 years. Outside, the queues are forming. They're getting ready

:37:46. > :37:51.to go in and have the taste of what is to come over the hours ahead.

:37:51. > :38:01.Danny Boyle earned worldwide praise for the unique opening ceremony.

:38:03. > :38:09.The man who followed in that is Kym DA then. -- Gavin. I wanted to

:38:09. > :38:15.create a party. Music in our culture has been an amazing export.

:38:15. > :38:20.I have wanted to create a Symphony of British music. You have an

:38:20. > :38:26.unbeatable choice of music. How do you get that down to a smaller

:38:26. > :38:30.playlist? We started with a list of songs that we thought people were

:38:30. > :38:35.saying. One criteria was I wanted people to synch in the audience and

:38:35. > :38:42.have cameras seeing people sing along because they know the words.

:38:42. > :38:47.It would not be fair to call it a pop concert. It is more than that.

:38:47. > :38:54.We start with an amazing sequence, where we really do bring in

:38:54. > :38:59.probably a most busy cast right at the beginning. We have a London

:38:59. > :39:05.tunes event. Teens which resemble London and say where we are in the

:39:05. > :39:10.world. Then we move on to British music, culture and fashion.

:39:10. > :39:15.opening ceremony went down so well, it was really impressive. How much

:39:15. > :39:22.pressure does that put on you? woke up the following day and

:39:22. > :39:28.thought, it is me next. The pressure was on Dani. No one knew

:39:28. > :39:32.how the Games would go. Everyone was hoping for a great spirit. Of

:39:32. > :39:35.course there was a pressure. The biggest pressure was getting into

:39:36. > :39:43.the stadium when the sport has finished and trying to put

:39:43. > :39:47.something together. I feel the show is very exciting. I am excited

:39:47. > :39:50.watching. It is important to tell viewers that they will enjoy the

:39:50. > :39:55.music but there are important elements coming up after the

:39:55. > :40:01.musical section. It makes the ceremony at a ceremony and what it

:40:01. > :40:08.is. I have always wanted to make sure that we did not try to steam

:40:08. > :40:14.roll those bits. At the end, it is the extinguishing of the flame. I

:40:14. > :40:18.think that was probably one of my starting points. I wanted to make

:40:18. > :40:27.that a really great moment. At the time when I started to create that,

:40:27. > :40:33.I knew what the idea was. This wonderful flame, that is now a

:40:33. > :40:38.fantastic piece of engineering, I thought, that is very exciting.

:40:38. > :40:43.When I saw the idea of the design, I thought you really do need to

:40:43. > :40:49.make this moment. We have created a special moment and his special

:40:49. > :40:54.artist to be part of that. It will be a great show. We will wrap up

:40:55. > :41:00.the rest of today's medal. It is their medals ceremony over in

:41:01. > :41:05.Greenwich for the modern pentathlon. Samantha Murray picked up a

:41:05. > :41:12.fantastic silver medal. She starts to be combined round in 4th place.

:41:12. > :41:17.The let's cross over to Greenwich. It is just fantastic that we have

:41:17. > :41:22.been able to continue the tradition of a medal at every Games since the

:51:42. > :51:47.has got to work hard on the inside. This is really close now. That is

:51:47. > :51:51.better, though. Roberto Cammarelle appears to be feeling the pace. He

:51:51. > :51:57.has had a difficult tournament and this is a spirited rally from
