:01:19. > :01:22.Young, talented, photogenic. Some people! At these Games, no one

:01:22. > :01:26.would begrudge Tom Daley one ounce of success in the Aquatics Centre

:01:26. > :01:31.this afternoon after what he has described as the toughest gear of

:01:31. > :01:36.his life. Can today be his greatest afternoon? We will be live in the

:01:37. > :01:40.Aquatics Centre from 3pm as he and Pete Waterfield compete in the 10

:01:40. > :01:50.need to synchronised diving. This is what has already come to pass on

:01:50. > :01:51.

:01:51. > :01:54.Hannah Miley and Caitlin McClatchey both booked places in tonight's

:01:54. > :02:02.semi-finals. Michael Phelps reached the same stage in the men's 200m

:02:02. > :02:06.butterfly. Caitlin Grainger -- Kath Grainger and Anna Watkins set a new

:02:06. > :02:11.Olympic record to reach the finals of the women's double sculls.

:02:11. > :02:15.Off Britain's men's fours remain on course to run defend their Olympic

:02:15. > :02:19.title. They eased through their heat to reach Thursdays semi-finals.

:02:19. > :02:24.But it was a disappointing morning for British judo. Danny Williams

:02:24. > :02:29.and Sarah Clark lost their belts and are now out of the competition.

:02:29. > :02:34.-- bouts. Already a very dramatic morning. This is how the afternoon

:02:34. > :02:39.looks. In a moment will go -- we will grow to Greenwich for the

:02:39. > :02:49.three-day eventing. There's been a great performance by Nicola Wilson

:02:49. > :02:58.

:02:58. > :03:02.Let's start with the eventing. It has been a really tense first

:03:02. > :03:09.couple of days with very little split in the field. Before we go to

:03:09. > :03:17.Greenwich, some of you might find Eventing is an equestrian

:03:17. > :03:23.competition made up of three different elements. Dressage.

:03:23. > :03:26.Cross-country. And showjumping. Eventing developed as a military

:03:26. > :03:31.exercise designed to reflect the range of challenges horses faced in

:03:31. > :03:36.the army. To win the competition, riders had to accumulate the

:03:36. > :03:39.minimum amount of penalty points. The individual and team

:03:39. > :03:45.competitions take place simultaneously. Riders compete on

:03:46. > :03:49.the same horse in each of the three elements. Teams are made up of five

:03:49. > :03:55.riders with the best three total scores counting towards the team's

:03:55. > :04:01.final total. The medallists in the eventing team competition by

:04:01. > :04:05.decided during the first round of the showjumping. The top 25

:04:05. > :04:09.competitors proceed to the second round of the showjumping, where the

:04:09. > :04:19.medallists in the individual competition are decided. If you

:04:19. > :04:20.

:04:20. > :04:23.would like to get involved in That is the education, now for the

:04:24. > :04:27.entertainment. Yesterday the horses discipline was tested in the

:04:27. > :04:32.dressage, tomorrow at their speed and agility is under the microscope

:04:32. > :04:35.in the jumping, today it is endurance in cross-country. It is

:04:35. > :04:39.one of the tightest Olympic competitions ever with Great

:04:39. > :04:45.Britain currently sitting third in the team event, Mary King is the

:04:45. > :04:50.best place British rider in 12th. After Royal Greenwich now a Zara

:04:50. > :04:54.Phillips is riding just after 3pm. It is a wonderful location with

:04:54. > :04:58.views over the Thames and towards St Paul's Cathedral. The

:04:58. > :05:03.competition is so close, any time penalties could be very costly

:05:03. > :05:13.indeed. 10 minutes until Mary is under way so let's join Ian Stark

:05:13. > :05:17.

:05:17. > :05:22.Australia. He was on 45.4. He has already had two lives. He is

:05:22. > :05:28.finding it quite slippery. He nearly fell as he turned into the

:05:28. > :05:37.first water. He had a heart- stopping moment in the second water,

:05:37. > :05:47.but he is now in the Greenwich Para drop. Making nothing of that. He is

:05:47. > :05:53.

:05:53. > :06:03.still clear. How is he on the on the course. Huge crowds

:06:03. > :06:06.

:06:06. > :06:15.supporting the teams. Makes nothing of that water. This is rider number

:06:15. > :06:23.two for Germany. This is the horse that won the big French four-star,

:06:23. > :06:27.a top event. We are hearing of a loose horse in the start terrier.

:06:27. > :06:31.Whether that is a faller, we will have to wait and see, or whether it

:06:31. > :06:41.is very close to where the horses are taken for the start and finish.

:06:41. > :06:43.

:06:44. > :06:50.There it is. Is it Sam's course? Sam Griffiths? It might be. He he

:06:50. > :07:00.was just coming to the flat ground at the top when we last saw him.

:07:00. > :07:10.

:07:10. > :07:13.What drama has happened on the Extraordinary that they both had to

:07:13. > :07:19.stop at fence three. It makes you wonder if the line they were

:07:19. > :07:25.planning to ride was feasible. The riders will probably have to go out

:07:25. > :07:35.and have another look. He got away with it, but a bit of a late

:07:35. > :07:44.

:07:44. > :07:50.Burton's time. He had had a stop as well so that would have wasted a

:07:50. > :08:00.lot of time. It is a very good point to see on the course. He the

:08:00. > :08:05.

:08:05. > :08:15.Frenchman now comes to the second there all day so far, dare I say it.

:08:15. > :08:31.

:08:32. > :08:36.He is on 39.8, one of the top leading team, but is also the

:08:36. > :08:46.trainer of the leading Japanese individual rider overnight ever

:08:46. > :08:46.

:08:46. > :08:56.dressage. -- after dressage. Still awaiting news of some Griffiths. I

:08:56. > :09:05.

:09:05. > :09:08.have a feeling it might have been sunlight, there are several dark

:09:08. > :09:14.areas on this course which will make it a little bit more difficult

:09:14. > :09:18.for the horse. Fear anything from that point of view is that the

:09:18. > :09:28.horses have been here for a wig and they have been walking about and

:09:28. > :09:38.

:09:38. > :09:43.getting used to these shadows of up We are running about 15 minutes

:09:43. > :09:49.late. Mary King will come later than scheduled, somewhere after

:09:49. > :09:55.tomb topped -- 2:15pm. The Frenchman is that the most

:09:55. > :10:05.beautiful end of this park. Sumps super rose gardens of there. Some

:10:05. > :10:11.

:10:11. > :10:15.lot of people were wondering if they would get an extra stride in.

:10:15. > :10:25.In fact, the horses are so opened up, if anything they are finding

:10:25. > :10:32.the distance quite short. This is the German. A little bit of a

:10:32. > :10:37.hiccup into the approach of that fence, but he sat a beautifully.

:10:37. > :10:43.The interesting thing, we've not had any news of Sam Moa Griffiths.

:10:43. > :10:53.Frankly, we've got to believe that he has had a fall for topped and

:10:53. > :10:54.

:10:54. > :11:04.that he is out. That is a Bikey Cup for Australia. Do -- a big hiccup

:11:04. > :11:13.

:11:13. > :11:19.Thomsen went round, he added 26 to his score. Correction, 5.2 to his

:11:19. > :11:28.score. We can now confirm that Sam Griffiths has been eliminated. I'm

:11:28. > :11:31.sure that is because of a fall. That is dramatic news. Australia

:11:31. > :11:39.with five here. That round of Christopher Burton's could well be

:11:39. > :11:45.crucial. Sam Griffiths is out and it will be Andrew Hoy and Lucinda -

:11:45. > :11:51.- Clayton Fredericks that Australian fate will depend on.

:11:51. > :11:55.not terribly sure that he is necessarily be up on the clock. It

:11:55. > :11:59.will be interesting when he comes into the arena. He's in a lovely

:11:59. > :12:09.rhythm, but he doesn't it like he's going that fast, but it could be

:12:09. > :12:10.

:12:10. > :12:17.deceptive. Over the East End flour built by Andrew Hunter. He ran the

:12:17. > :12:26.British country... A way goes if a clerk for Ireland. She will not

:12:26. > :12:32.hang about. Just getting fat picture of Australians and

:12:32. > :12:42.Griffiths. He had a fall at fence 21. One of the very simple fences,

:12:42. > :12:54.

:12:54. > :13:00.dare I say. Not dissimilar to the We will get an idea of his time. He

:13:01. > :13:10.was quick enough through the arena. This is the Frenchman finessing.

:13:11. > :13:22.

:13:22. > :13:32.39.6. That includes a refusal. The cool surroundings to of the

:13:32. > :13:42.

:13:42. > :13:46.seconds slower than Christopher Burton been the main arena. He will

:13:46. > :13:51.have to be able to gallop on at the end if he is going to make up that

:13:51. > :13:56.time. I reckon he will be another one with some time penalties. It is

:13:56. > :14:01.not really what the German team were looking for. Peter Thomsen is

:14:01. > :14:11.home safe and dry. They really need to get some horses closer to the

:14:11. > :14:12.

:14:12. > :15:12.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 60 seconds

:15:12. > :15:21.crucial. Sit back and let the horse married to Simon Clark. By she is

:15:21. > :15:28.nicely through. She is 31 years old. The horse is 12 years old. 48.9

:15:28. > :15:32.dressage. Now back with Dirk. on this great galloping stretch at

:15:32. > :15:42.the top and the horse looks like he has quickened up. It is whether he

:15:42. > :15:42.

:15:42. > :16:24.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 60 seconds

:16:24. > :16:28.has the stamina to keep up the think he is. It was such a great

:16:28. > :16:37.shot of seeing a horse galloping under the trees. It is what cross

:16:37. > :16:40.country is all about. In 2009 in the Europeans and then in the

:16:40. > :16:47.world's in 2010, the Germans had some mistakes on some fairly easy

:16:47. > :16:51.fences. Dirk Schrade playing quite safe, making sure he didn't make a

:16:51. > :17:01.mistake as he now goes to the rose garden and jumps that very well.

:17:01. > :17:23.

:17:23. > :17:33.best performer in the dressage. Owned by the very popular Terry and

:17:33. > :17:55.

:17:55. > :18:02.to go inside the time on this to me if he's going to get some

:18:02. > :18:12.time faults. Although he is making time, he's still got this Saxon

:18:12. > :18:19.

:18:19. > :18:29.Awad has had a fall at fence three and a horse has gone spare. We

:18:29. > :18:38.

:18:38. > :18:43.Germany are beginning to be in a situation where they could be

:18:43. > :18:47.caught. I think you are right. It is putting a huge amount of

:18:47. > :18:55.pressure on the final three rider macros, because they're going to

:18:55. > :19:04.have to come up with the goods and get as near round possible -- as

:19:04. > :19:14.possible. For Ireland, Clark. She was very cautious at that fence

:19:14. > :19:29.

:19:29. > :19:37.their rather than the three. She Christopher Burton, so this looks

:19:37. > :19:43.like a pretty impressive round so far for the Irish team. The time of

:19:43. > :19:53.Christopher Burton is remarkable. There is Bennett-Awad. What

:19:53. > :19:54.

:19:54. > :20:04.disappointment for her. This is a thoroughbred mare out on the course.

:20:04. > :20:12.

:20:12. > :20:16.Sadly, when he scored it will be none braver than this lady. Didn't

:20:16. > :20:21.get a great line there. That's a dangerous thing to do. She was very

:20:21. > :20:31.aware of that offence. She wanted to be straight and let the horse

:20:31. > :20:48.

:20:48. > :20:52.see the step out, and she even we thought was going to be required

:20:52. > :20:56.for this course. There was a test event earlier this year and

:20:56. > :21:06.everyone came away saying they wanted fit, Little, athletic horses

:21:06. > :21:06.

:21:06. > :22:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 60 seconds

:22:21. > :22:29.that could be easily controlled. She is delighted. 3.6 penalties.

:22:29. > :22:34.But an exceptional round. That will please the Irish coach. It

:22:34. > :22:39.certainly will. Ireland, who didn't qualify as a team here, they just

:22:39. > :22:42.missed out in the Europeans by a matter of a few points. Not to

:22:42. > :22:51.qualify as a team so they had qualified enough riders, they had

:22:51. > :22:55.to qualify five. As a result, they've got a very competitive team.

:22:55. > :22:59.Certainly as competitive as they had for many years. There is Simon

:22:59. > :23:04.Clark alongside her, her husband. He will be delighted. He is a

:23:04. > :23:12.helicopter pilot. He takes famous people all around the country. He

:23:12. > :23:17.took Lord Coe to an Olympic meeting very recently. As you can see,

:23:17. > :23:24.competition delay that the moment for that four of Bennett-Awad. The

:23:24. > :23:29.control of this competition at the start and finish, it is quite a

:23:29. > :23:34.complex affair but it's very well done. The team up there are very

:23:34. > :23:40.experienced, headed by Richard Clapham and others. Richard has

:23:40. > :23:44.controlled two Olympic games prior to this. But it's got to be a good

:23:44. > :23:47.communication system that immediately takes decisions and the

:23:47. > :23:53.appropriate actions to get the right people in the right place, to

:23:53. > :23:59.make sure horse and rider macro are looked after to the very highest

:23:59. > :24:09.possible standard. We don't know how many people are in here but it

:24:09. > :24:12.

:24:12. > :24:19.could well be around the maximum could well be around the maximum

:24:20. > :24:24.A mention their of the 50,000 people all standing around watching

:24:24. > :24:28.the dramatic action, and it was dramatic. Horses having problems,

:24:28. > :24:32.competitors being thrown off and the competition delayed. As soon as

:24:32. > :24:36.it gets going we will let you know. We will be over there because Mary

:24:36. > :24:40.King is going this afternoon and Zara Phillips as well. You can see

:24:40. > :24:46.that with us here later. We are going to get an update on the

:24:46. > :24:56.sailing in a few moments. Before that, just how much of a difference

:24:56. > :24:59.

:24:59. > :25:04.even in the winter, because you met your friends, there was lots of

:25:04. > :25:10.adventures, you could sail to the island or role. It was a great kind

:25:10. > :25:15.of Swallows and Amazons place, we have a lot of fun. I wasn't

:25:15. > :25:19.brilliant at school sport. But with sailing it was different, I

:25:20. > :25:23.instantly found something I loved. I think I was that sort of child

:25:23. > :25:30.that if I found something I really enjoyed, I wanted to get better and

:25:30. > :25:34.better at it. I remember the first time going on the boat on my own,

:25:34. > :25:39.attached with a rope. And then when the rope was eventually taken off,

:25:39. > :25:43.that amazing sense of freedom you get. I couldn't have gone on a bus

:25:43. > :25:48.on my own or a train. I could only cycle round the block where the

:25:48. > :25:53.lift. But there was an incredible responsibility and sense of freedom

:25:53. > :26:00.to sail all by yourself. It's lovely that nothing's really

:26:00. > :26:06.changed. One weekend the club organised proper instruction. They

:26:06. > :26:10.came from the Royal Yachting Association. At the end of that

:26:10. > :26:17.weekend I could steerer boat or by myself. It was a real turning point

:26:17. > :26:21.for me because I suddenly realised, actually, I can do this, I can sail

:26:21. > :26:24.on my own. I don't think I ever really sailed with my dad every

:26:25. > :26:33.game since then. I remember the other end of the Lockerbie miles

:26:33. > :26:38.away. It was like an ocean. Now it's just there. With no money or

:26:38. > :26:42.funding, sport was really different then. No coaching either. It was

:26:42. > :26:52.hard but I knew that I had to dedicate everything to make this

:26:52. > :26:55.

:26:55. > :27:00.Robinson. That smile, doesn't that just say it all! Shirley Robinson

:27:00. > :27:04.has the gold for Great Britain. was incredible. Shirley Robinson,

:27:05. > :27:12.gold medal for Stam I can't really believe it myself. If I watch it

:27:12. > :27:18.now, it's sort of weird it happened to me. What a moment this is for

:27:18. > :27:24.Shirley Robinson. Here we are where I grew up, just a very small family

:27:24. > :27:34.club, this is where it all began. That is a big grin! A very happy

:27:34. > :27:51.

:27:51. > :27:54.Wonderful. Born in Dundee, 32 years later voted as the greatest female

:27:55. > :27:59.sailor in the world. Lets joined Shirley right now, doing what she

:27:59. > :28:03.does best, bobbing up and down on a boat somewhere off the Jurassic

:28:03. > :28:08.Coast for us usually, but today she is looking a bit calmer, she is not

:28:08. > :28:12.out on the water. Shirley, when you are out on the water now watching

:28:12. > :28:16.those boats competing, how do you feel as a double Olympic champion

:28:16. > :28:21.to be watching? You feel their nerves and stress. You know how

:28:21. > :28:25.important it is to them. When they have a tough race it sort of gets

:28:25. > :28:29.too deep inside. You feel the elation when they do well. It means

:28:29. > :28:36.everything to all the competitors at the Olympic Games. I know how

:28:36. > :28:40.much it means to them. A lifetime's work. Lots of empathy. Living and

:28:40. > :28:43.breathing the whole experience with them through the week. Particularly

:28:43. > :28:47.the young sailors out there, do they see you as something of a

:28:47. > :28:51.mother figure in a few ways, do they ask for advice and help about

:28:51. > :28:57.how to approach an Olympic Games from someone who has been there and

:28:57. > :29:01.done it and been so successful? Some do but there's -- they are so

:29:01. > :29:05.much more professional and experience. Take Hannah Mills,

:29:05. > :29:09.she's only 24 but has been racing at the very highest level since she

:29:09. > :29:13.was 10, 11, 12 years old. She's got plenty of experience and doesn't

:29:13. > :29:17.need that much advice from me. Let's talk about what's been

:29:17. > :29:20.happening on the water today. I'm sure there has been a great British

:29:20. > :29:25.contingent cheering them on, because there's been more than just

:29:25. > :29:30.Ben Ainslie looking to defend his title today. It's been hectic. We

:29:30. > :29:35.have to be managing to keep up. Ben has just started his third race.

:29:35. > :29:39.He's got two more races today. He was struggling when I heard last,

:29:39. > :29:44.he hadn't had the best start and was caught up in the pack. The case

:29:45. > :29:52.that he has his incredible downwind speed. So often you see him catch

:29:52. > :29:57.up. First up in the Daily it was the fastest boats here, they fly on

:29:57. > :30:02.top of the water. Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes didn't have the best

:30:02. > :30:06.start. They really struggled in the first race. In the next race they

:30:06. > :30:12.were up among state. They had a bad leg, dropped down to 12. A hard

:30:12. > :30:17.start for them. There -- but in the 49s, they have a lot of races

:30:17. > :30:22.before they get to that final. Plenty more to go. In the Laser

:30:22. > :30:25.class, Paul Goodison looking to class, Paul Goodison looking to

:30:25. > :30:29.defend, how did he do? Pretty good. There are 49 of them, so it's very

:30:29. > :30:32.hard to get your own waves and a bit of freedom to make your own

:30:32. > :30:37.decisions. But he managed to get free of the pack eventually and

:30:37. > :30:43.finished 7th. Everybody is predicting a duel between him and

:30:43. > :30:46.the Australian. He did extremely well, second in the first race.

:30:46. > :30:56.Everyone is expecting that big battle, Australia versus Great

:30:56. > :31:02.

:31:02. > :31:07.going in their third and fourth races. What do you expect from

:31:07. > :31:12.them? They will have fire in their belly. Yesterday a tenth and a

:31:12. > :31:20.photo finish, just got second, pipped by the Brazilians. Everyone

:31:20. > :31:24.is predicting a Clash Of The Titans between these two teams. The breeze

:31:26. > :31:29.they will come back with two strong they will come back with two strong

:31:29. > :31:35.results. Or you've already mentioned Ben Ainslie. We can see

:31:35. > :31:44.some pictures of him. How would you rate how he has performed so far?

:31:44. > :31:49.Not just today? Solid. Two second places yesterday. He was beaten by

:31:49. > :31:53.Hogh-Christensen twice. He will be consistent this week. He will be

:31:53. > :31:59.looking for two more solid results. He did not seem that stressed about

:31:59. > :32:03.it yesterday. He was pretty happy with his performance. Today he will

:32:03. > :32:07.just be looking to consolidate on that. In the Finn class, they will

:32:07. > :32:12.do 10 races and then a medal race. A lot of sailing left in Weymouth

:32:12. > :32:20.A lot of sailing left in Weymouth for Ben Ainslie. Consistency is K.

:32:20. > :32:25.Thank you very much. The thank you feel story earlier as well. If you

:32:25. > :32:30.were tuning in expecting to see some equestrian, today is the cross

:32:30. > :32:34.country, in Greenwich. Usually the cross-country takes up such a wide

:32:34. > :32:37.area that they have to perform a long way away from the Olympic Park.

:32:37. > :32:43.But it is happening just a couple of miles from here. But at the

:32:47. > :32:53.people are watching the action, but the competition is suspended at the

:32:53. > :32:58.moment. Let's talk about David Florence and Richie Hamilton. They

:32:58. > :33:02.are going in the C2 doubles. It was their first run today. Let's see

:33:02. > :33:08.their first run today. Let's see how they did in the first heat.

:33:08. > :33:15.A massive cheer has just gone up in this Lee Valley White Water Centre.

:33:15. > :33:20.Union flags are flying high. Fils is the reason why. David Florence

:33:20. > :33:26.partnered by Richard Hounslow. They know this course probably better

:33:26. > :33:30.than a lot of fellow competitors. David qualified for the semi-finals

:33:30. > :33:34.of the C one competition yesterday. Richard Hounslow, the semi-finals

:33:34. > :33:41.of the K1 competition. But how are they going to operate as a

:33:41. > :33:47.partnership? David Florence goes for Great Britain along with his

:33:47. > :33:57.partner Richard Hounslow. They are going for broke. You can see then

:33:57. > :33:58.

:33:58. > :34:06.slide down into the first gate. Quickly accelerating. They have to

:34:06. > :34:10.set it up for 6, 7 and 8. Both incredibly strong men. Both

:34:10. > :34:16.incredibly confident paddlers, albeit at slightly different

:34:16. > :34:22.disciplines. They have come together well in the C2 category.

:34:22. > :34:27.Very strong at the front, David Florence. Complimented superbly by

:34:46. > :34:50.they will set up the boat for the next sequence. Pull the nose around

:34:50. > :34:54.and back down. That looked pretty good. Neither of them go off to a

:34:54. > :34:59.good start yesterday, but both of them came through strongly in their

:34:59. > :35:05.second runs. If they get a good run here, the pressure may be off for

:35:05. > :35:09.the second run and they may go even quicker. Four penalty. So far. Two

:35:09. > :35:13.British pairs in this qualifying competition. The second pair come

:35:13. > :35:21.later. That was a touch by David Florence. Six penalty points for

:35:21. > :35:30.Great Britain. One Moorgate to go. They are in nicely. Am for pushing

:35:30. > :35:34.hard all the way to the finish line. 1:0 8.23. 5th place. That would be

:35:34. > :35:37.a qualifying position if that remained the same throughout the

:35:37. > :35:42.competition, but I guess you have to anticipate that some teams will

:35:42. > :35:47.go faster than that on the second run. How would you clarify what has

:35:48. > :35:51.just happened? A slightly nervous start? Perhaps. They found

:35:51. > :35:59.themselves off line on a number of occasions. Richard had to duck into

:35:59. > :36:02.a couple of the gates. I think they will look to go away and check out

:36:02. > :36:05.the video and see how they can fine-tune those errors they made to

:36:05. > :36:11.fine-tune those errors they made to make sure they don't pick up

:36:14. > :36:19.David Florence only just made it to the semi-finals in the C1 and they

:36:19. > :36:24.have their second run a little bit later today. You can see that and

:36:35. > :36:40.so special for Laura Robson to be cheered on by a partisan British

:48:21. > :48:26.at that, Great Britain picking up a point. The perfect time to drop in

:48:36. > :48:38.

:48:38. > :48:42.for one of the riders. It wasn't serious but sadly, as soon as they

:48:42. > :48:46.got under way, someone else fell off, leading to even more of a

:03:16. > :03:25.we think as a result of a fall from the young Japanese rider. He fell

:06:02. > :06:05.jumping fences on the flat. Up we have had a couple of horses take a

:09:40. > :09:44.of the cross-country, turnover to BBC Three. On BBC One, it is time

:09:44. > :09:48.to head for the Aquatics Centre. Tom Daley has leapt off the diving

:09:48. > :09:52.board thousands of times in his life, but never before a British

:09:52. > :09:58.crowd in the Olympics. A good job he is already used to the

:09:58. > :10:01.spotlight! Clare Balding is with Leon Taylor. Before we talk about

:10:02. > :10:06.the diving, I bet you had a television with the cross-country

:10:06. > :10:10.on. I did! I was watching Mary King and holding my breath because

:10:10. > :10:17.sometimes it is nerve-racking. I was trying to explain it to Leon.

:10:17. > :10:21.Look at that line-up as well. Prince William, Kate, Prince Harry.

:10:21. > :10:27.We had diving royalty here. Leon Taylor knows Pete Waterfield better

:10:27. > :10:31.than anyone. You won a silver medal with him in Athens. He seems to

:10:31. > :10:36.have an aura of incredible calm this. That is so important,

:10:36. > :10:41.especially today. It is a straight final. Six dives and every single

:10:41. > :10:46.one counts. Pete has been there, this is his fourth Olympics. He

:10:46. > :10:52.will be steady and that is what it is about. He is 34 years old, a

:10:52. > :10:58.father of two. Tom competed in his first Olympics at the age of 14. He

:10:58. > :11:01.is now 18, he has grown six inches in height. It is extraordinary to

:11:01. > :11:08.see the footage of Beijing and see how he has grown in stature and

:11:08. > :11:15.class. He is a man today. He is taller than Peter and he is ready

:11:15. > :11:19.to rock and roll. You have to get up to the commentary box. An

:11:35. > :11:42.

:11:42. > :11:48.From a height of 10m, it takes Tom Daley about 1.6 seconds to hit the

:11:48. > :11:51.water. That is not a lot of time to do what he does. He is judged by

:11:51. > :11:59.those who know diving inside out and upside down, at normal speed.

:11:59. > :12:03.But for the rest of us, he has to be slowed down. Only then do all of

:12:03. > :12:08.the twists and turns of his life reveal themselves. There is then a

:12:08. > :12:13.sort of distortion to how we see the world of Tom Daley. From the

:12:13. > :12:18.moment he looked up at the age of seven at that platform high above

:12:18. > :12:22.Central Park pool in Hibs home city of Plymouth until his dad -- and

:12:22. > :12:26.told his dad that he wanted to climb up. Ever since then he has

:13:33. > :13:34.

:13:34. > :13:36.Mate, his father, aged 40, died of a brain tumour. This year, Tom won

:13:36. > :13:43.the individual ten-metre platform in the European Championships in

:13:43. > :13:47.Eindhoven. His coach criticised him for overdoing his media and

:13:48. > :13:51.commercial activities. In Mexico he won the last leg of the world

:13:51. > :13:58.series before the Olympics, plus a bronze in the synchronised with

:13:58. > :14:02.Pete Waterfield. But can he beat his arch-rival from China? For

:14:02. > :14:07.twists and turns of being Tom Daley. Perhaps we shall never see him as

:14:07. > :14:14.he truly is at normal speed and we should only worry that he does not

:14:14. > :14:17.go the way of some other child stars and four. Except for link is

:14:18. > :14:23.what he does and perhaps how we see him is no more distorted than how

:14:23. > :14:28.he sees the world, from a handstand on the edge of a platform 10m up

:14:28. > :14:32.there. Perhaps we should simply enjoy young Tom and all that he

:14:32. > :14:38.does while it lasts. I think I was nine when I drew theirs. It is

:14:38. > :14:48.needed doing handstands in the Olympics in London 2012. All 1.6

:14:48. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :14:58.Nine years after that drawing, it is time to write some Olympic

:14:58. > :15:05.history. A week on Friday Tom and Peter will be competing against

:15:05. > :15:10.each other. But today they are together 14 GB. Look at the crowd

:15:10. > :15:20.inside the aquatics centre. Now live coverage of the ten-metre

:15:20. > :15:30.

:15:30. > :15:35.noise really lifted the roof of the aquatic Centre. What a reception

:15:35. > :15:41.for Pete Waterfield and Tom Daley. And there is great expectancy from

:15:41. > :15:46.the crowd. Leon Taylor, you have been in this position in Athens,

:15:46. > :15:50.what are they expecting today? took to the board to do their final

:15:50. > :16:00.warm-up died and the crowd greeted them with massive applause and

:16:00. > :16:17.

:16:17. > :16:22.is made of tougher stuff than me. Both boys are injury-free, so it is

:16:22. > :16:27.down to this contest, these six dives, and who can hold their

:16:27. > :16:37.nerves. There are potentially seven per us who can be in the medals. On

:16:37. > :16:47.their day, they could be eight. First up it will beat the Russian

:16:47. > :16:49.

:16:49. > :16:53.pair. They will be doing tariff 2.0 dives early on. This will be a back

:16:53. > :16:59.dive with a pike. The scoring system has changed since we last

:16:59. > :17:06.brought diving on the BBC. There are six Execution judges rather

:17:06. > :17:12.than three. We're not quite ready to start. I will explain the judges.

:17:12. > :17:16.The intention is basically to make it even fairer. You will average

:17:16. > :17:23.everything out. The Russians are sorting out what died that they

:17:23. > :17:29.will be doing. Six Execution judges, three for one diver, three for the

:17:29. > :17:33.other. The highest and lowest of Beach judge is taken away. Then we

:17:33. > :17:39.get the synchro judges the to leave you with five scores that carry,

:17:39. > :17:49.multiplied by the degree of difficulty. It is then multiplied

:17:49. > :17:49.

:17:49. > :17:54.by 0.6. You basically get a score that is comparable. It is tipped

:17:54. > :18:01.towards synchronisation. So the better the synchronisation, the

:18:01. > :18:06.better. Execution is important, but synchronisation is keep today.

:18:07. > :18:11.is a hiccup the Russians do not need. They are prepared mentally

:18:11. > :18:15.and physically, and there seems to be a disagreement or a

:18:15. > :18:21.misunderstanding on the opening diver which we have down as a back

:18:21. > :18:28.died with pike. Has the up been confirmed? I am not sure. This is

:18:28. > :18:33.important. It is hard enough opening up your campaign. When you

:18:33. > :18:38.are No 1, there is additional pressure another has been a

:18:39. > :18:48.disruption to proceedings. It looks like we are ready to go. And it is

:18:49. > :19:08.

:19:08. > :19:13.Russians would have been looking for. Not fazed by the delay.

:19:13. > :19:21.Folding at the hips but keeping knees straight. Arms up together

:19:21. > :19:27.and touching the toes. A bit closer to the diving board than they would

:19:27. > :19:37.have liked. Good synchronisation. Looking at hitting the water at the

:19:37. > :20:04.

:20:04. > :20:10.same time. Is solid start at by the is the forward dive in the pipe

:20:10. > :20:15.position. Keeping legs nice and straight. The judges do not get to

:20:15. > :20:23.see the replay, but that is what you were looking at four good

:20:23. > :20:29.synchronisation. Exactly the same time hitting the water. You can see

:20:29. > :20:37.the diver's spreading their arms out as they hit the water. There is

:20:37. > :20:41.a 10, but it won't count. All the marks with a line through them to

:20:41. > :20:51.do not score. Now to the most consistent per in Europe in recent

:20:51. > :21:17.

:21:17. > :21:24.teams won't be giving a lot away. Look at that camera angle. Nearly

:21:24. > :21:34.40 miles an hour impact speed. A steady start from what you would

:21:34. > :22:04.

:22:04. > :22:14.expect. The first two rounds will Spinning forwards towards the

:22:14. > :22:27.

:22:27. > :22:34.from the judges as one hit the water before the other. Coaches

:22:34. > :22:44.always seem to like it. You never see a negative reaction. Here are

:22:44. > :22:44.

:22:44. > :23:27.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 60 seconds

:23:27. > :23:33.We will be seeing more moves that we have not seen before at an

:23:33. > :23:38.Olympic games, but this is their easiest one. Synchronisation was OK

:23:38. > :23:48.in terms with their entry into the water. Lowest marks so far for the

:23:48. > :24:26.

:24:26. > :24:31.you can tell, and very solid die from the Cubans. Guess who is up

:24:31. > :24:38.next? This contest has given a high-class start from all of the

:24:38. > :24:44.divers so far. The big question now as we wait for Tom Daley and Pete

:24:44. > :24:50.Waterfield, what effect will the crowd have on the judge's scores?

:24:50. > :25:00.Surely the crowd will have some kind of influence over the outcome.

:25:00. > :25:07.

:25:07. > :25:17.Best to get the first dive out of Super synchronisation and the crowd

:25:17. > :25:18.

:25:18. > :25:24.like it. They have been training well and they are both injury free.

:25:24. > :25:30.The crowd are loving it, let's see what the judges think. Come on,

:25:30. > :25:36.let's go with them. This is their day today. Super slow-motion.

:25:36. > :25:46.Bracing themselves for the impact. What an amazing piece of footage.

:25:46. > :25:46.

:25:46. > :25:56.Some amazing marks coming your way. 9.5 on the right, and 9.5 on the

:25:56. > :26:13.

:26:13. > :26:17.left put Great Britain in equal see anything but a very good here.

:26:17. > :26:25.The top divers have been selected from the European Championships a

:26:25. > :26:35.few months ago. You can see the strapping on many of the diver left

:26:35. > :26:37.

:26:37. > :26:43.on the screen. I think Barbour is our top of the pile. -- Barbour is.

:26:43. > :26:52.This is what you will see at the top of the table. China and Great

:26:52. > :27:02.Britain first round completed. Then come the USA. It is early days yet

:27:02. > :27:06.

:27:06. > :27:11.with another round of 2.0 tariffs. Then it is the big boys. The

:27:11. > :27:18.women's competition has five rounds, the men's competition had six

:27:18. > :27:22.rounds. I don't think it will be lacking in noise this afternoon in

:27:22. > :27:32.the aquatic centre. Everybody is expectant. They won't have to wait

:27:32. > :27:36.

:27:36. > :27:46.quite as long for the second round died. -- dive. Forward 1.5

:27:46. > :27:46.

:27:46. > :27:55.somersaults with pike. More like it from the Russians. Maybe the delay

:27:55. > :28:02.before their first dive put them further down the pack than they

:28:02. > :28:12.would have liked. Entering the water in perfect alignment. They

:28:12. > :28:16.

:28:16. > :28:20.were throwing up a little bit of splash. I should be a judge. Decent

:28:20. > :28:24.marks for the Russians. I imagine it will be more than decent that

:28:24. > :28:34.China. But there is a bit of pressure on them in the early

:28:34. > :28:43.

:28:43. > :28:52.support for Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield. They are just doing

:28:52. > :29:02.their thing. They are only young, 17 and 18. Younger than Tom Daley.

:29:02. > :29:26.

:29:26. > :29:36.Look at the entry into the water. at the Olympics in Beijing. In

:29:36. > :29:43.

:29:43. > :29:49.would dive with pike. -- in would dive. Just positions from the

:29:49. > :29:55.Germans. Notorious for their consistency and it earned them a

:29:55. > :29:59.silver medal four years ago. However, my people on the ground

:29:59. > :30:09.saying training they have been struggling with some of their

:30:09. > :30:20.

:30:20. > :30:26.optional dives. But that basic guys womb, the way the water holds you.

:30:26. > :30:35.The Germans in the second position for the time being. This pair, on

:30:35. > :30:45.the day, can be red hot. Nick McCrory and David Boudia --

:30:45. > :31:01.

:31:01. > :31:10.will let you know how they take-off at the same time, it is one, two,

:31:10. > :31:14.three, go. It is not telepathy. They look a little shaky, this pair.

:31:14. > :31:21.They are well in contention. Anything over 53 or 54 is a really

:31:22. > :31:31.good dive. The American coach is easily pleased. We are in for a

:31:32. > :31:35.

:31:35. > :31:41.high-scoring final. 54 Fall USA. -- for USA. At the back of the pack,

:31:41. > :31:51.looking to repair that damage, are the Mexican pair of German Sanchez

:31:51. > :32:02.

:32:02. > :32:06.Sanchez and even Garcia Navarro. -- the first dive they were different

:32:06. > :32:10.distances from the diving board. You can see the beauty and

:32:10. > :32:13.precision displayed by some of the other athletes, the other pairs.

:32:13. > :32:18.They are a little bit scruffy but they will really come into their

:32:18. > :32:25.own when they come into the optional dive. A much better dive

:32:25. > :32:30.from them. Could do with your arms being straight there, make yourself

:32:30. > :32:38.look a little bit more a aesthetically pleasing. Didn't

:32:38. > :32:47.really catch the judge's eye. They have not really made up a great

:32:47. > :32:57.deal so far. The Cuban pair of Jose Antonio Querrey and Jeinkler

:32:57. > :32:59.

:32:59. > :33:06.Aguirre. Interesting choice of dive. Not quite sure whether they were

:33:06. > :33:15.electing for the top position. That was a solid dive from the Keepin

:33:15. > :33:25.pair. Beautiful entry into the water. The execution marks will

:33:25. > :33:29.

:33:29. > :33:36.certainly be nine for Joe's day. -- Jose. Spot on the money as ever,

:33:36. > :33:40.for Mr Leon Taylor. These two are quite popular. Might take a while

:33:40. > :33:44.to compose themselves. Must be quite daunting with the noise being

:33:45. > :33:52.generated, virtually at capacity here in the Aquatics Centre in

:33:52. > :34:01.London. Reverse dive with pike, Daley and Waterfield, died number

:34:01. > :34:05.two. Here we go. This is how it is going to be. These are going to

:34:05. > :34:09.keep putting the pressure on the Chinese. Perfect synchronisation,

:34:09. > :34:15.let's take a look, jumping away from the diving board, touching

:34:15. > :34:20.toes, looking back, our movement in perfect time. Come on, judges. The

:34:20. > :34:25.crowd on their feet. This is only round two. Wait until we get into

:34:25. > :34:35.this competition. There is Pete Waterfield's dad, he likes it and I

:34:35. > :34:37.

:34:37. > :34:47.certainly like it too. That means, Great Britain are into the lead,

:34:47. > :35:00.

:35:00. > :35:08.they are ahead of China by eight that Ukraine at feeling the

:35:08. > :35:11.occasion, different distances from the diving board. There are nice

:35:11. > :35:21.safe distance from the diving board. One of them a little bit safer from

:35:21. > :35:21.

:35:21. > :35:30.the other. His injury doesn't seem to be affecting his jump. Amazing

:35:30. > :35:40.power generated from their small framed. -- frames. The entries were

:35:40. > :35:41.

:35:41. > :35:47.not quite in sync. Here is the scoreboard for the crowd. There is

:35:47. > :35:51.no point me holding it back. You will see what they are seeing,

:35:51. > :35:58.after it you create any -- Ukrainians leave the water, Great

:35:58. > :36:02.Britain at the top of the standings. We haven't really begun at the

:36:02. > :36:12.competition yet. That is the starter, here comes the four-course

:36:12. > :36:17.

:36:17. > :36:21.exactly where our boys want to be. I wasn't expecting them to be in

:36:21. > :36:25.the lead, the Chinese not looking as good as they have done in

:36:25. > :36:35.training. This is where the real competition starts, the optional

:36:35. > :36:40.

:36:40. > :36:49.died us. -- died us. -- dives. In would be three and half, the

:36:49. > :36:53.Russian pair of Zakharov and Minibaev. You can really see the

:36:53. > :37:00.difference, from the most basic dives in the world, straight into

:37:00. > :37:05.the most complicated. Superb synchronisation. The judges did get

:37:05. > :37:10.to see the replay, but we do. Pretty close to the diving board,

:37:10. > :37:15.Zakharov, closest to us, not very pleasant. I am not sure if the

:37:15. > :37:25.judges will take off any marks. I know a lot of you jump backwards

:37:25. > :37:36.

:37:36. > :37:40.aghast but that is OK. That looked any kind of pressure with their

:37:40. > :37:50.back to a half somersaults, one- and-a-half twist in the pipe

:37:50. > :38:00.

:38:00. > :38:10.The coaches like it. If they like it, it is really really good. I

:38:10. > :38:18.

:38:18. > :38:24.will not be surprised if we see some 10 ofs on this. -- 10s. It is

:38:24. > :38:31.only 3.2 degree of difficulty. They are laying down the pressure on

:38:31. > :38:36.everybody else. There is a 10 in there but that will not count. They

:38:36. > :38:44.are not going for a big tariff dive, they are leaving it to the likes of

:38:44. > :38:54.Mexico and Great Britain later on. Hausding and Klein go for a back to

:38:54. > :39:00.and a half somersaults, one-and-a- half twist. A tremendous effort,

:39:00. > :39:10.they did all the hard worker, the all-important entry has let them

:39:10. > :39:12.

:39:12. > :39:21.down slightly. Beautiful, into the pike shape, all looking good. A bit

:39:21. > :39:28.of Splash, probably only eight before the execution. They are very

:39:28. > :39:37.much in with a shout. Maybe not quite as high as they would have

:39:37. > :39:47.hoped for. They are in second place behind China. It almost seems like

:39:47. > :39:49.

:39:49. > :39:59.there is a brawl when people look at the scoresheet. -- roar. Three-

:39:59. > :40:08.and a-half somersaults, but Harris is 3.2 -- the tariff. Interesting,

:40:08. > :40:17.very interesting. Like the German pair, he didn't really like it.

:40:17. > :40:21.Multiple Olympic champion himself. Good all the way, David Boudia,

:40:21. > :40:25.furthest from us, that is too much splash. I have seen them died

:40:25. > :40:35.better. They are feeling the pressure, the nerves of getting

:40:35. > :40:46.

:40:46. > :40:53.up into the big numbers. 3.7. The highest tariff we have seen so far

:40:53. > :41:03.but not a highest we will see. Forward four-and-a-half somersault

:41:03. > :41:09.

:41:09. > :41:15.with tuck. This is tricky. Stand by for some splash on this one. It is

:41:15. > :41:20.impressive. You can hear the cry to hold their breath as they take off.

:41:20. > :41:28.Our boys will be using this as are most of the teams. The Mexicans

:41:28. > :41:38.have done well on this. Let's count no somersaults, 1, 2, 3, 4, half,

:41:38. > :41:38.

:41:38. > :41:42.slightly faltering as their way -- as they went in on the entry. If

:41:42. > :41:51.they were going to know what all, that might have been the one, but

:41:52. > :42:01.they are still in it. Slight difference in their entry times. I

:42:02. > :42:19.

:42:19. > :42:29.Grayrigg, -- wearer. -- Guerra. There is a difference in distance

:42:29. > :42:30.

:42:30. > :42:40.from the diving board. You can see this been at speeds are the tame --

:42:40. > :42:51.

:42:51. > :43:01.decent marks, 81.60. Doesn't really do much in terms of moving up the

:43:01. > :43:03.

:43:03. > :43:13.table. He might this be? -- who might this be? A certain Thomas

:43:13. > :43:27.

:43:28. > :43:33.Daily, -- Tom Daley, and Pete they were looking for, this is the

:43:33. > :43:43.one I was unsure of. David Cameron next to Andy and there, they like

:43:43. > :43:44.

:43:44. > :43:54.it. -- Hunt. That has got to be 9.5 on synchro, they have been working

:43:54. > :44:08.

:44:08. > :44:18.so hard. Come on. I have just gone 91.08. The 10 will not count. Big

:44:18. > :44:29.

:44:29. > :44:39.smile on his face. They are back in caused because of fog -- gosh

:44:39. > :45:11.

:45:11. > :45:18.the synchronisation is good. It will give them a good total.

:45:18. > :45:25.level here has raged to fever pitch. At the top of the table, not much

:45:25. > :45:35.at this stage, but at half day -- halfway, Tom Daley and Pete

:45:35. > :45:57.

:45:57. > :46:07.Waterfield lead. Look how tight it the bigger tariff dives.

:46:07. > :46:08.

:46:08. > :46:17.Russians. They reversed 3.5 somersaults quick talk. 3.3 is the

:46:17. > :46:22.degree of difficulty. It is a brilliant dive for the Russians.

:46:22. > :46:27.The reverse is incredibly dangerous. You are standing forwards on the

:46:27. > :46:33.end of the diving board. You jumper away and then spin backwards

:46:33. > :46:41.towards the diving board. They were slightly different on spinning

:46:41. > :46:51.speed, but entry into the water was good. They might be a little bit

:46:51. > :47:03.

:47:03. > :47:13.behind the game this side. Marks want to get into this pretty

:47:13. > :47:20.quickly by the looks of things. QC me, and now you don't! The all

:47:20. > :47:29.important entry into the water. Support from the rest of their

:47:29. > :47:36.team-mates. -- now you see me, and now you don't. Entry into the water

:47:36. > :47:40.was spot on. I think it will be over 90 points for stomp and they

:47:40. > :47:50.are laying down the gauntlet for Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield to

:47:50. > :47:58.

:47:58. > :48:06.catch up. 93.6 is a very good score indeed. Everyone knows how tough

:48:06. > :48:16.and could this competition is turning out to beat. The Germans

:48:16. > :48:23.

:48:23. > :48:31.were second place in Beijing. high risk. Shaking off the hands

:48:31. > :48:38.means a bogey dive. 3.6, back 3.5 in the folding position. Low into

:48:38. > :48:48.the water. Arching into the water. Will suffer a bit with the

:48:48. > :48:58.

:48:58. > :49:03.too bad. But the standard of competition, if you are not getting

:49:03. > :49:08.eight or nine, you are not in the mix for a medal. That is how high

:49:08. > :49:17.the standard is today. 4.5 somersaults in the forward position

:49:17. > :49:23.for the Americans. They have done it. This is the risky one. This is

:49:23. > :49:32.the one great Britain has coming up. The American guys in perfect

:49:32. > :49:38.synchro. They should be pleased with that. If that gets them over

:49:38. > :49:42.90, it is worth the risk. Into the water. Good entry from both of them

:49:42. > :49:51.and their team mates agreed. It might bring them back up the field

:49:51. > :49:56.a little bit. They are just behind China, 11 marks behind China. This

:49:56. > :50:04.is a dive you wouldn't believe it when you see it. If it comes off,

:50:04. > :50:11.and I have not seen it come off get, it will be spectacular. It is a 4.1

:50:11. > :50:18.tariff. It is off the Richter scale when it comes to diving in would.

:50:18. > :50:28.You think it is impossible, and it might be. As ever, they will give

:50:28. > :50:49.

:50:49. > :50:57.it a go. If it comes off, watch synchronisation is spot on. I am

:50:57. > :51:03.taken aback. It is an incredible effort. There synchronisation is

:51:03. > :51:09.good. 4.5 somersaults. It is extraordinary any human being can

:51:09. > :51:17.do this and let alone that are well. Maybe they will get a 6.5 and seven

:51:17. > :51:27.for execution. If they get close to 100 points, it is job done. Biggest

:51:27. > :51:27.

:51:27. > :51:33.mark of the competition so far. 95.94, we have not seen them do it

:51:33. > :51:43.as good as that ever before on BBC Television's. Now the Cubans have

:51:43. > :51:52.

:51:52. > :52:02.opted for the fourth round died. -- the water was awful from what a

:52:02. > :52:04.

:52:04. > :52:14.week are used to. Smacked his head. Look at the splash from the diver

:52:14. > :52:16.

:52:16. > :52:26.furthest away from us. Synchronisation solid. Solid is not

:52:26. > :52:28.

:52:28. > :52:38.going to get the medal. They are down in 6th place. Well, so far, so

:52:38. > :52:40.

:52:40. > :52:50.good for Tom Daley and Pete big margin between Great Britain

:52:50. > :53:00.

:53:00. > :53:07.died. This is how tricky it is. You can see by the expression on their

:53:07. > :53:12.faces that neither diver did what they normally do on this. Peter was

:53:13. > :53:19.a little bit late, Tom was a little bit early. The execution was off.

:53:19. > :53:24.That will put them down into the middle of the pack. There is still

:53:24. > :53:30.time to fight, but the Chinese will be ahead already. Tom Daley going

:53:30. > :53:34.off to have a little think. That is not the score they wanted. First

:53:34. > :53:44.time they have missed their dive and they have missed it quite

:53:44. > :53:45.

:53:45. > :53:52.spectacularly in this round. Still time to make it up. The very basic

:53:52. > :54:01.forward 3.5 somersaults in the pipe position. This is low risk, but no

:54:01. > :54:07.degree of difficulty. Squeezing into their legs. No daylight in

:54:07. > :54:16.between. It is a good dive but they won't feature. Mid-70s I would

:54:16. > :54:22.imagine for that dive. Such a beautiful pool isn't it? We cannot

:54:22. > :54:28.dismount anybody. But it won't beat the Ukraine's day. And they are

:54:28. > :54:38.down at the bottom. Just over 30 points separate first place to the

:54:38. > :54:44.

:54:44. > :54:49.bottom at the end of the fourth cannot bring you the standings

:54:49. > :54:59.after that round. We can tell you it is China from Mexico, from USA

:54:59. > :55:28.

:55:28. > :55:33.big dive. Very well executed. Squeezing into the 2.5 twists. Get

:55:33. > :55:38.them out a way and then into the somersaults and into the water.

:55:38. > :55:42.That will keep the Russians in contention. Moving towards each

:55:42. > :55:51.other as they were going down them, I don't recommend holding hands

:55:51. > :55:58.going down. Not to be advised. 88 point 56, sounds like a radio

:55:58. > :56:08.frequency. That is the Russians almost done. One more dive. China,

:56:08. > :56:16.

:56:16. > :56:22.back in pole position, where we it is not a big mistake.

:56:22. > :56:29.Synchronisation in complete it Unison, it was spot on. Into the

:56:29. > :56:34.shape. We have seen other divers and make a bit of a mess of this.

:56:34. > :56:44.The Chinese have a little wobble on it. Execution a little bit off, but

:56:44. > :56:53.

:56:53. > :57:02.it is certainly not going to impact China. Now, the Germans. The last

:57:02. > :57:07.round did not go very well for them. They have gone down to a 3.3. But

:57:07. > :57:12.they do have a three-point 60 finish off their programme.

:57:12. > :57:17.Germans trying to get themselves back in it, they have not made a

:57:17. > :57:23.big mistake yet. This one, they would have wanted this a little bit

:57:23. > :57:30.sharper. Meaning they would have wanted a clean entry into the water.

:57:30. > :57:40.That will get an eight Execution, probably a 0.5 the synchronisation.

:57:40. > :57:43.

:57:43. > :57:49.Slightly different entry times into the water. -- 8.54 stop come on,

:57:49. > :57:59.give us the total. 84.15, is the total before it appears on the

:57:59. > :58:11.

:58:11. > :58:16.somersault. 3.5 degree of difficulty. The Americans are still

:58:16. > :58:26.in the hunt. Inspired by the goals yesterday in a three-metre

:58:26. > :58:44.

:58:44. > :58:51.Second place is certainly in the mix and bake on 19 points behind

:58:51. > :58:59.China. As we watch the Mexican has go for, not a big dive compared to

:58:59. > :59:03.their 4.1, but nonetheless it is another difficult programme. On the

:59:03. > :59:13.day, if they get everything right that they will win this competition.

:59:13. > :59:15.

:59:15. > :59:25.But it certainly won't be today. 3.3 difficulty. Sanchez and Garcia

:59:25. > :59:53.

:59:53. > :00:00.That is what they needed to do because that is a spectacular dive

:00:00. > :00:04.from the Mexican has. This just doesn't go so well in training.

:00:04. > :00:10.These are my dark horses for a medal. And that it will get over 90

:00:10. > :00:19.points. This is the weakest one in their programme. They took ages to

:00:19. > :00:29.get off, but when they did! What a dive. Where are you going? Health

:00:29. > :00:39.and safety report from the Mexicans. Definitely in contention. They are

:00:39. > :00:55.

:00:55. > :01:03.to let the other competitors get a wave. Dive after dive, are all

:01:03. > :01:13.about consistency. Squeezing in a nice and tight. This will get

:01:13. > :01:19.

:01:19. > :01:29.would be, world class. This has to be the best 10m synchro we have

:01:29. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:37.ever seen. Look at these marks. Now, they have to put their fourth-round

:01:37. > :01:47.a dive behind them and think about the big one. This is the big one.

:01:47. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :01:59.better execution. Not quite sure what is happening. You can see,

:01:59. > :02:09.just from the body language, not quite as police. Forward for 0.5,

:02:09. > :02:13.

:02:13. > :02:18.all looks good, -- 4.5. I am not sure what the judges will make of

:02:18. > :02:28.it, it needs to be above 90. It is very good, I just wanted it to be

:02:28. > :02:29.

:02:29. > :02:39.better. Earth 4th place at the moment. If they are six points

:02:39. > :02:51.

:02:51. > :03:01.Probably not knocking on the metal door at the end of this competition.

:03:01. > :03:06.

:03:06. > :03:14.doing. Ukrainian coaches sharing their delight. They have been

:03:14. > :03:19.consistent. They are there to pray on the pairs that make mistakes.

:03:19. > :03:24.Nobody is really faltering. I think that is probably a little bit close

:03:24. > :03:31.to the diving board. Everything is safe. So dangerous, spinning

:03:31. > :03:38.forward towards the diving board. A solid synchro dive. That would be

:03:38. > :03:47.some way to have a pedicure. You can say if we now say Ukraine will

:03:47. > :03:53.not be getting a medal today. The end of round five. This is how it

:03:53. > :04:00.looks. Look at the differential. It is not a great differential, China,

:04:00. > :04:08.Mexico, USA in the medals at the moment. Daley and Waterfield to

:04:08. > :04:12.make up seven points. Germany still mathematically in with a chance.

:04:12. > :04:22.Great Britain will have to have a superb last dive to overcome the

:04:22. > :04:23.

:04:23. > :04:29.USA. You would think China would take the gold. Final round. Of the

:04:29. > :04:39.men's synchronised ten-metre platform final effort from Zakharov

:04:39. > :04:41.

:04:41. > :04:44.and Minibaev. He it is the big one to finish, a little bit off. They

:04:44. > :04:49.have just loaded their list of dives with this big one to finish,

:04:49. > :04:59.it is the make or break died. I don't think it will be good enough

:04:59. > :05:08.

:05:08. > :05:11.for a medal. If the dives are OK. Maybe seven 7.5. -- 77.5. Actually

:05:11. > :05:21.16 points better than Daley and Waterfield achieved in theirs. But

:05:21. > :05:36.

:05:36. > :05:45.medallists? Finishing off the Chinese programme. We will note in

:05:45. > :05:50.10 seconds whether this will be gold. That looks like it to me,

:05:50. > :06:00.gold medal number two for China. Six pairs to go but we believe they

:06:00. > :06:00.

:06:00. > :06:05.have acquired for -- they have that kind of quality. Slight over

:06:05. > :06:09.rotation from both divers on the end but the synchronisation, as on

:06:09. > :06:14.although dives, is bang on. I have seen them dive better but that is

:06:14. > :06:19.why they are Olympic champions. Not even diving at their best they are

:06:19. > :06:23.head and shoulders above the rest, look at that. 99.36. We haven't

:06:23. > :06:33.seen 100 yet. Will we do it before the end of the competition? Not for

:06:33. > :06:40.

:06:40. > :06:45.the Chinese today. I think there probably will be enough. The silver

:06:45. > :06:50.and bronze are still up for grabs. These two have slightly

:06:51. > :06:55.underperformed today. Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein. It has

:06:55. > :07:04.got to be a monumental last dive, it has got a big parrot attached to

:07:04. > :07:09.it. -- tariff. They have got to race at the scoreboard and get this

:07:09. > :07:12.right. That is more like it. Just putting the pressure on the

:07:12. > :07:20.remaining competitors still to go. You will see this dive quite often

:07:20. > :07:24.now. The Americans will use it. So will our boys. A little bit of

:07:24. > :07:29.their game on some of the earlier dives. Just putting them out of

:07:29. > :07:32.contention. I did think this will be good enough for a medal, but

:07:32. > :07:38.didn't have to put pressure on those still to dive. That is

:07:38. > :07:48.fantastic synchronisation. Let's see what the judges think. We are

:07:48. > :07:52.

:07:52. > :07:58.awaiting their input. They are in third place at the moment. If

:07:58. > :08:03.everybody else falters they will get a bronze. You can tell by the

:08:03. > :08:11.faces of the divers they are not really convinced. USA are currently

:08:11. > :08:21.in the medals, in third position. Nick McCrory and David Boudia. You

:08:21. > :08:41.

:08:41. > :08:46.have seen this dive before. We can the Americans. Very consistent

:08:46. > :08:54.throughout today. That is a dive they needed to finish on. They have

:08:54. > :09:02.got a six points lead on our boys. Execution from both divers is

:09:02. > :09:06.superb. Synchronisation, it is bang on, he really likes it, that is the

:09:06. > :09:14.US coach. Let's see what the judges think. This will be hard to catch.

:09:14. > :09:19.I think they will get 95. Which means, we know what that means,

:09:19. > :09:25.pretty much the British pair have to get a ton and that will take

:09:25. > :09:35.some doing. It is not impossible. We were just hold our breaths for

:09:35. > :09:36.

:09:37. > :09:43.the time being as we watch German Sanchez and Ivan Garcia Navarro.

:09:43. > :09:48.They are in second place. All kinds of things are possible with a

:09:48. > :09:58.tariff dive of 3.8. Some people on their prayer mats. Not quite sure

:09:58. > :10:00.

:10:00. > :10:05.where to look and what a to-do. That is a big breath. They have got

:10:05. > :10:10.it all going on, at the synchro was very good, but the execution, both

:10:10. > :10:20.divers going over vertical, the 3.8, I am not sure which way this will

:10:20. > :10:21.

:10:21. > :10:27.go. Three twists, into the pad shape. They are crazy. It looks

:10:27. > :10:37.like it will pay off. What colour will it be? He is crossing his

:10:37. > :10:38.

:10:38. > :10:48.fingers. What will happen? Dramatic pause, there you go. The crash can

:10:48. > :10:56.

:10:57. > :11:06.see them. 91.20. It will take 102 from Great Britain to get a medal.

:11:07. > :11:07.

:11:07. > :11:12.What other chances? -- what are their chances? They will not be in

:11:12. > :11:22.the Middle East but they would have to finish with both up -- the

:11:22. > :11:30.

:11:30. > :11:35.superb dive from the key bins. -- steady. -- from the Cubans. This

:11:35. > :11:41.has been a fantastic contest. Everybody diving out of their skin.

:11:41. > :11:51.This will be a good score. It will not be in the medals. They were

:11:51. > :12:10.

:12:10. > :12:18.sick after the last round. -- 6th. their final dive. The Mexicans have

:12:18. > :12:28.the silver. It is now the bronze medal that daily and Waterfield are

:12:28. > :12:28.

:12:28. > :12:35.going for. It has to be perfect. -- Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield.

:12:35. > :12:45.100.63. You will know if they have made at bronze. 3.6 degree of

:12:45. > :12:56.

:12:56. > :13:02.they will be oh so close. They did absolutely everything. 3.6 degree

:13:02. > :13:08.of difficulty, coming back from a bad fourth-round tie. Perfect

:13:09. > :13:15.synchronisation. A little bit of splash being thrown up from both

:13:15. > :13:25.divers. The execution marks will probably be about 8.5. I am not

:13:25. > :13:26.

:13:26. > :13:34.sure what they will get on the synchro? But as out of our misery.

:13:34. > :13:40.It is misery, I am afraid. You now see the marks, it is the worst

:13:40. > :13:50.place to finish. Exactly where you finished, Leon, in 2000 in Sydney.

:13:50. > :13:56.It looks like they are going to be 4th and no medal for Tom Daley. All

:13:56. > :14:05.down to the individual at the weekend. It all looks so promising.

:14:05. > :14:13.But not to be. Let's finish this off and we can get out of here.

:14:13. > :14:20.Bondar and Gorshkovozov. The Ukrainians, the last dive for them.

:14:20. > :14:26.3.7. They saved their biggest dive until last, they have done another

:14:26. > :14:32.steady it, good job on it. Not the most fantastic dive. They have

:14:32. > :14:39.managed to pull it together, final dive in this exciting competition.

:14:39. > :14:49.Finishing up well, I did think they will move off their position. They

:14:49. > :15:01.

:15:01. > :15:11.have back loaded, their entry into do a great deal for the standings,

:15:11. > :15:13.

:15:13. > :15:18.but this will be agony. Maybe some thoughts about what went wrong. The

:15:18. > :15:24.Chinese can celebrate, as they did in the three-metre synchro

:15:24. > :15:30.yesterday with the women. What about the Mexicans? What about that

:15:30. > :15:37.performance?! They went from an amazingly high tariffs on their

:15:37. > :15:43.dives and it paid off. China winning, Mexico in second, the USA

:15:43. > :15:51.in third and look at the margin between third and 4th. Roughly nine

:15:51. > :15:57.points in a competition where the winners got 486. Imagine what would

:15:57. > :16:00.have happened if they have got the fourth round for the fifth round

:16:00. > :16:07.the way they wanted to. The difference between gold and silver

:16:07. > :16:14.was only 14 points in the end. It is all about the Chinese, as it so

:16:20. > :16:23.have a very solid programme. Although they were being led by

:16:23. > :16:28.Great Britain for a while, they held their nerve and it did not

:16:28. > :16:33.work out for Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield. They will be back for

:16:33. > :16:39.the individual event. Let's not lose sight of the facts they did

:16:40. > :16:49.beat Cuba, Russia, Germany and Ukraine. It was a solid final. The

:16:49. > :16:55.lowest mark the Ukraine, 4.33, a high as two. The China, 4.86. The

:17:22. > :17:25.but the Chinese proving how impressive their training regime is.

:17:25. > :17:31.Congratulations to China so they have managed to defend their

:17:31. > :17:41.Olympic gold medal. It was agonising out in the park as well.

:17:41. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:48.We have our own Henman Hill in east London. These are the scenes when

:17:48. > :17:55.there diving was taking place. After four years of hard work and

:17:55. > :18:01.effort, it wasn't to be. Fantastic effort from both of them. It was a

:18:01. > :18:05.4th died, hard way they we leading the Chinese. However, they slowly

:18:05. > :18:10.started to slip back. It did unsettle them. And in that

:18:10. > :18:15.competition being so close, it made the difference. But China looking

:18:15. > :18:20.successful. We can speak to Leon Taylor, as was pointed out quite

:18:20. > :18:25.cruelly in commentary, you know how it feels to finish 4th in his

:18:25. > :18:30.competition? But it was so close to being a silver medal? It just comes

:18:30. > :18:36.down to one mistake. And that is what happened. After leading after

:18:36. > :18:42.the first two round, the third round dive I leapt out of my seat.

:18:42. > :18:47.But it was the all-important fourth round dive, ironically verve best

:18:47. > :18:51.dive. They have been exceptional in training, but when it mattered in

:18:52. > :18:59.the competition, they faltered. What a shame and they left

:18:59. > :19:05.themselves too much to do to get back. That is the two 4th places

:19:05. > :19:11.for Pete Waterfield now. You do feel for them. They do go in the

:19:11. > :19:15.individual events, but that is some consolation. Let's have a look at

:19:15. > :19:20.arguably the dive that had to out of their seat, probably the best of

:19:20. > :19:25.of their seat, probably the best of the competition? Without a doubt.

:19:25. > :19:29.The marks speak for themselves. They are squeezing into the shape.

:19:29. > :19:34.You can see the synchronisation. But that is where it counts,

:19:34. > :19:38.disappearing into the water. Hardly any splash on the entry. That is

:19:38. > :19:48.what you want. They will be gutted they did not do that on their

:19:54. > :19:58.were looking so strong at the halfway stage. How much can as dive

:19:58. > :20:04.affect you for the rest of the competition? It is one of those,

:20:04. > :20:09.you are letting it happen, following the process. Tom came out

:20:09. > :20:15.a little bit too early, and Peter came out a bit too late. Both

:20:15. > :20:20.making a different error. Calling a discrepancy on the synchronisation.

:20:20. > :20:26.They both would have been swimming to the side muttering things under

:20:26. > :20:30.the water. There is no magic rewind button. We must mention the fact

:20:30. > :20:35.that standard in that Aquatics Centre was so high, the crowd had

:20:35. > :20:44.an amazing afternoons. Despite not getting a medal we wanted to for

:20:44. > :20:49.Great Britain. Without a doubt. I am taken aback by the quality. I

:20:49. > :20:55.was running it back. The crowd are going mad behind me. They have had

:20:55. > :21:00.a real treat, even Ukrainians is phenomenal. No one is out there

:21:00. > :21:05.giving anything away. It was about going for broke. I was impressed

:21:05. > :21:12.with Mexico, they went for it. High degrees of difficulties. I cannot

:21:12. > :21:18.believe the dives they are doing. I invented the most difficult dive,

:21:18. > :21:27.and they have done that and gone better. Let's talk to the two men

:21:27. > :21:32.4th place is a horrible place to come in the Olympics, but you have

:21:32. > :21:38.just saluted the crowd? They have been amazing. I'm getting emotional

:21:38. > :21:44.thinking about it will stop to come forth, is so agonising after the

:21:44. > :21:48.hard work and training. We have got our individual event coming up on

:21:48. > :21:55.Friday so hopefully we can get back on our game for that. It was all

:21:55. > :21:59.looking so good after three dives? I don't know why, I kicked a bit

:21:59. > :22:06.high and could not stop it. In this competition you cannot make

:22:06. > :22:11.mistakes. We left ourselves with a lot to do. Our last two dives were

:22:11. > :22:18.brilliant. The others have a higher tariffs, but unfortunately it

:22:18. > :22:21.wasn't meant to be. The crowd were amazing. They would have been

:22:21. > :22:27.lovely to have stirred on the podium in front of them. It on,

:22:27. > :22:36.what was your overall reaction? started off it really well and we

:22:36. > :22:43.got a personal best on offer has two required dives. It was just off

:22:43. > :22:48.4th dive. If you miss the dive in a field like that, you are gone. We

:22:48. > :22:52.did well to come back after diving so badly. It is unheard of to come

:22:52. > :22:58.4th still. We only needed another nine points, which normally we

:22:58. > :23:02.would have been able to do. It is just the way it goes. Sometimes it

:23:02. > :23:11.goes in your favour and sometimes it goes against you. It is annoying,

:23:11. > :23:16.but what can you do? Well done. Understandable, disappointment for

:23:16. > :23:21.them. Let's go back into the aquatic Centre and Liam Taylor. It

:23:21. > :23:26.is amazing how one dive can make or break a competition. The job for

:23:26. > :23:32.Tom and Peters to go away and get their heads right and work out how

:23:32. > :23:36.they attacked the individual? Exactly right. They have a big gap

:23:36. > :23:43.until the individual event. It starts on the 10th with the

:23:43. > :23:46.preliminaries, semi-finals and finals. They will be leaving the

:23:46. > :23:52.Olympic village and going back to their training camps to prepare

:23:52. > :23:59.properly. You can see bide their interview, they were professionals.

:23:59. > :24:03.But that 4th dive will haunt them. They could have had the silver

:24:03. > :24:07.medal, but that could be the driving force over the next two

:24:07. > :24:14.weeks. Because they have to stand in his Aquatics Centre and do it

:24:14. > :24:18.again. Peter is a great diver, has died with you at the Olympics in

:24:18. > :24:24.2004 and picked up a medal. He knows what it is takes. Tom is on

:24:24. > :24:29.the form of his life? Peter Studd on the podium here at the test

:24:29. > :24:34.event six months ago. Tom Daley has retained his European title he won

:24:34. > :24:40.four years ago. He has been ailing it World Series, after world series.

:24:40. > :24:47.They will have a point to prove. -- nailing it. I think you need to go

:24:47. > :24:51.and have alive down. I feel sorry for him, it is harder work

:24:52. > :24:57.commentating than doing it because it is so dramatic and emotional.

:24:57. > :25:01.is so involved. His ex-partner is Peter out there and they know

:25:01. > :25:06.exactly what they are going through. All the expectation and pressure

:25:06. > :25:12.and that the three dives, we are getting so excited. Just one error,

:25:12. > :25:16.and the margins are so small. place in an Olympic final for Tom

:25:16. > :25:24.Daley at 18 is impressive. He won't feel like that. He won't, but we

:25:24. > :25:27.must not put too much pressure. As we have said, they will be diving

:25:27. > :25:35.individually and competing against each other and they both have what
