:01:20. > :01:30.That is gold number two in the diving board or China. Thank you

:01:30. > :01:39.

:01:40. > :01:49.Three white lights, it is a British It is real, it has happened! What

:01:49. > :01:54.So the men's gymnasts light up London with another medal for Great

:01:54. > :01:58.Britain, but we are still chasing that first gold. Could this be the

:01:58. > :02:03.day that it happens? It is Dave four of London 2012, and this is

:02:03. > :02:07.what we have in store this morning. -- Dave.

:02:07. > :02:15.In the archery, Naomi Folkard is the highest ranked Briton but faces

:02:15. > :02:25.a tough battle at Lord's today. In the poor, Ellen Gandy will try

:02:25. > :02:25.

:02:26. > :02:35.to make it through to the next It could be a record-breaking day

:02:35. > :02:40.for Michael Phelps as he chases his And over at the equestrian, Great

:02:40. > :02:46.Britain are looking good, could today bring a first team gold for

:02:46. > :02:52.40 years? All of that is coming up on BBC One. On BBC Three, it is a

:02:52. > :02:57.hockey as Netherlands take on Japan, they lead 2-0. As always, plenty to

:02:57. > :03:06.watch from the beach volleyball at Horse Guards Parade, the Czech

:03:06. > :03:12.Republic are currently playing Andover at the Badminton, this is

:03:12. > :03:19.at Wembley, press your red button, or go to the BBC sport website or

:03:19. > :03:22.watch via the Olympics app on your So much to talk about, but the

:03:22. > :03:25.Aquatics Centre has not disappointed. Last night we saw a

:03:25. > :03:30.swathe of top of almost as, and will we be talking about those with

:03:30. > :03:40.Ian Thorpe in just the moment. It was a mixed night for Team GB, but

:03:40. > :03:46.

:03:46. > :03:55.there was plenty to say that a massive swim, just outside the

:03:55. > :04:05.world record. He wins by a whole body length. My goodness me, he won

:04:05. > :04:15.

:04:15. > :04:25.really close. It will be Missy Franklin. Gemma Spofforth was 5th,

:04:25. > :04:27.

:04:27. > :04:33.this last 35 metres, he can still do it, he still has a chance for a

:04:33. > :04:41.bronze medal. The world record is 51.94, is he going to get it? Just

:04:42. > :04:51.outside. The bronze medal has gone to the Japanese swimmer, and Liam

:04:52. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :04:59.Meilutyte is holding on for Lithuania. It is going to be really

:04:59. > :05:04.tight. Ruta Meilutyte in the green hat, I think it is there, gold

:05:05. > :05:11.medal to Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania. Plymouth, let me tell

:05:11. > :05:19.you! She has won it by eight hundredths of a second, a Olympic

:05:19. > :05:24.champion aged 15! I cannot believe The Aquatics Centre has been the

:05:24. > :05:29.focus of so much excitement, it is Dave four, let's talk about the

:05:29. > :05:32.swimming. Missy Franklin was one of the swimmers wear Great

:05:32. > :05:37.Expectations replaced upon her, and she really delivered. She did

:05:37. > :05:42.deliver. I much care in the 200 freestyle, and I was a bit

:05:42. > :05:46.concerned, but she came through in the last qualifying heat. She

:05:46. > :05:50.backed up 15 minutes later and was able to take the gold any 100m

:05:50. > :05:55.backstroke. It was expected that Emily Seebohm would win this race,

:05:55. > :06:00.but Missy Franklin did deliver. Gemma Spofforth was also in that

:06:00. > :06:05.same race, ended up out of the medals. She did, and from where she

:06:05. > :06:07.has come, the difficulty is that she has had, it is great to see her

:06:07. > :06:12.in a swimming pool, and she would not be disappointed with that

:06:12. > :06:17.result. She would have liked to have a medal, but it was a good

:06:17. > :06:22.field. A 15-year-old got the most dramatic headlines of the night.

:06:22. > :06:27.Incredible, the Lithuanian swimmer who is winning in Plymouth, she

:06:27. > :06:29.really blew everyone away, and I think she blew herself away. She

:06:29. > :06:35.reacted with this really honest and innocent shock at what she had

:06:35. > :06:40.accomplished. Band I loved the interview, what she didn't say, and

:06:40. > :06:44.what she was not able to express, because you could sense that she

:06:45. > :06:49.could not feel all know what she had just accomplished. You were a

:06:49. > :06:54.15-year-old champion, what would you say to her? How do you manage

:06:54. > :07:00.yourself? Acting she is doing the right thing. I listened to the

:07:00. > :07:04.interview that the coach did with the BBC straight after the race and

:07:04. > :07:07.said cow -- said, how they manage the school work and time around the

:07:07. > :07:11.swimming pool. He was speaking about upcoming events and he wanted

:07:11. > :07:14.to say how she was going with what he has just accomplished and

:07:14. > :07:19.whether they even a swim those events, which is a really

:07:19. > :07:23.responsible way of looking at young swimmers and young athletes.

:07:23. > :07:27.lives in Plymouth and goes to the same school as Tom Daley, an

:07:27. > :07:32.amazing connection, Britain can claim a little bit of the Credit

:07:32. > :07:36.there! It is a British coach, so a little bit of credit! One of the

:07:36. > :07:40.big stories developing his swimming has been surrounding the young

:07:40. > :07:43.Chinese swimmer, Ye Shiwen, we have been talking about her for the last

:07:43. > :07:48.few days, and controversy about allegations that have been put

:07:48. > :07:51.forward by the American coach. how we should talk about these

:07:51. > :08:01.things is to let you move nationalities, it is a swimmer.

:08:01. > :08:04.When we look at the great results from a swimming in Plymouth, Ryuta

:08:04. > :08:08.is a swimmer who was consistent throughout the medals, she has

:08:08. > :08:14.dropped times as well. If we had an athlete from TGV who dropped three

:08:14. > :08:20.seconds and was 15 or 16, we would say, wow, what an incredible

:08:20. > :08:28.result! The point that he is making is that Ye Shiwen's improvement is

:08:28. > :08:33.so striking that it is unnatural. As a 15-year-old, I won the 400m

:08:33. > :08:42.freestyle, 3.46. The following year, I Scrum V seconds faster and broke

:08:42. > :08:45.the world record. -- I swum five seconds. As a young swimmer, you do

:08:45. > :08:49.take a chance of as you go up the scale. I know this is the very

:08:49. > :08:53.elite level, but you have to remember that young swimmers can

:08:53. > :08:59.take off chunks of time that others cannot. I think we have to wait. We

:08:59. > :09:02.let the procedures go through. Now, she is an athlete that has been to

:09:02. > :09:05.the world championships, so she should be in the pool of people

:09:05. > :09:09.that are being drug tested. We should not just assume that because

:09:09. > :09:13.someone has dropped time that they are a cheat, just because they are

:09:13. > :09:18.from a different country. As a medal-winner, she has been tested

:09:18. > :09:21.straight away, and she has not failed a test. I do not want to

:09:21. > :09:24.think about how she is feeling when she is still competing. This is

:09:24. > :09:29.what happens, and it is what I do not like in sport at the moment.

:09:29. > :09:32.When people are successful, people go to, it must be drugs, and this

:09:32. > :09:37.is why we have to be vigilant about the testing procedures and make

:09:37. > :09:39.sure they are as strict and as fair as possible so that the people in

:09:39. > :09:43.the public, when they see a brilliant performance, they

:09:43. > :09:47.actually applaud the performance because they have confidence in the

:09:47. > :09:50.procedures. We will talk more through the course of the morning,

:09:50. > :09:54.but the Aquatics Centre, we have got a fantastic view, that is where

:09:54. > :09:59.it is happening. There are four gold medals up for grabs tonight

:09:59. > :10:02.and plenty of heats with British interest. Clare Balding and Mark

:10:02. > :10:05.Foster, disappointing that more British swimmers have not made it

:10:05. > :10:10.into the finals, but Mark was saying it is encouraging that they

:10:10. > :10:16.are getting further along. Very encouraging, the depth of talent

:10:16. > :10:19.has definitely improved over the last five or six years probably.

:10:19. > :10:23.Mark, the confidence is going to start coming through, and we will

:10:23. > :10:27.see people sneaking into metals that you might not have predicted.

:10:27. > :10:34.I mentioned yesterday, I know cine his 12 years ago, three Olympics

:10:34. > :10:37.ago, but we had literally five finalists. -- Sydney. We have had

:10:37. > :10:42.10 finalists already, we have got more medal opportunities. The

:10:42. > :10:46.events that have gone, they were not hour best medal hopes. Becky

:10:46. > :10:50.was expected to get one, but we have not had all of our best events.

:10:50. > :10:54.We have got things coming up with better opportunities. Ellen Gandy

:10:54. > :10:58.and Jemma Lowe are the two to look out for this morning. They are

:10:58. > :11:03.aiming for semi-finals tonight. Both of them, weren't they selected

:11:03. > :11:07.years ago and put on the fast track? Yes, the system we have got

:11:07. > :11:11.at the moment, when I was younger, it was very hit-and-miss when you

:11:11. > :11:15.were found or where the state in the sport. Now we have got systems

:11:15. > :11:18.in place where regionally, if you are good, there will be a Feeder

:11:19. > :11:24.club in your county, and then there is a fast-track system through to

:11:24. > :11:29.the junior squad, and Iraq keeping hold of the talented swimmers and

:11:29. > :11:33.identifying them at an earlier age. -- and we are keeping hold. We need

:11:33. > :11:37.a pyramid where we will catch these talented swimmers. We look at the

:11:37. > :11:42.Chinese swimmers, they have got 1 billion people to choose from. If

:11:42. > :11:47.they have got the same system, they will find more people than us.

:11:47. > :11:51.that feeds into how you can find Ye Shiwen, who can swim amazingly. She

:11:51. > :11:55.says their results come from hard work and training, she would never

:11:55. > :12:01.use banned drugs, the Chinese people have clean hands. There is

:12:01. > :12:06.an interesting theory about John Leonard, the executive theory --

:12:06. > :12:10.executive of the coach's body, he says that when you see something

:12:10. > :12:14.unbelievable in swimming, history tells us that it turns out there

:12:14. > :12:20.was doping involved. That is what John Lennon said, why would he have

:12:20. > :12:23.been so keen to go on the record and say that? If you look back, in

:12:23. > :12:27.1994, Chinese swimming was unbelievably dominant, and there

:12:27. > :12:31.were a few problems and doping issues. When you have been

:12:31. > :12:35.tarnished, people will say, you are performing well, you are using

:12:35. > :12:39.subsistence again. America had a lot of problems in track and field,

:12:39. > :12:44.but every time there is a good performance, do we suggest that it

:12:44. > :12:48.is judged? No, they have cleaned themselves up, I like to think that

:12:48. > :12:52.it is a level playing field, and they are gone to find good swimmers.

:12:52. > :12:59.It is like as pointing the finger at Michael Phelps, he is a

:12:59. > :13:07.phenomenal swimmer. His chic china's new Michael Phelps? Why

:13:07. > :13:10.not? -- is she China's new Michael Phelps? Back then, nobody said

:13:10. > :13:14.anything. They wished they had spoken up earlier, and something

:13:14. > :13:17.would have been done about it, in a sense. The Americans wished they

:13:17. > :13:21.had said something, so maybe it is just so people will listen and

:13:21. > :13:28.maybe take note. Maybe there are problems, I do not think there are,

:13:28. > :13:32.but they are making themselves wary of it. I do not know. We agree with

:13:32. > :13:36.the point that you want to share in the joy of it, you want to believe

:13:36. > :13:41.what you see. Ruta Meilutyte, you want to believe this is an

:13:41. > :13:45.unbelievable performance from a 15- year-old girl who had represented

:13:45. > :13:48.their country, and we are not saying anything about that, but we

:13:48. > :13:52.ask the same question of their coach, how did you find the

:13:52. > :13:57.improvements? The question will always be asked, how do find the

:13:57. > :14:04.improvements? Ye Shiwen will be back in the swimming pool tonight,

:14:04. > :14:09.200m individual medley final, and she will be up against Hannah Miley.

:14:09. > :14:13.We have also got Caitlin McClatchey in the 200 freestyle, and the men's

:14:13. > :14:18.freestyle relay. Hannah Miley was a little bit disappointed that he did

:14:18. > :14:23.not medal, it was not bad, but you have to have a great swim at the

:14:23. > :14:27.Olympics, so this is a shorter distance, not be disciplined. Last

:14:27. > :14:30.night was the best we have ever seen her, she is a fraction of off.

:14:30. > :14:34.Maybe because there is not so much pressure, something could happen,

:14:34. > :14:37.dreams happen at the Olympics. Something is definitely going to

:14:37. > :14:42.happen with the eventing, and I will be keeping half an eye on that,

:14:42. > :14:46.it is quite exciting! I can imagine, you must be tracked in different

:14:46. > :14:51.directions. It is all happening later at the Aquatics Centre, the

:14:51. > :14:56.heats start at about 10 o'clock. am looking forward to the men's

:14:56. > :15:01.100m freestyle, Australia is very strong in his race, we have

:15:01. > :15:07.produced two fastest times this year, Sir James Magnusson, the

:15:07. > :15:11.fastest swimmer in the world, and also James Roberts, so they are in

:15:11. > :15:14.the two last heats. Now they have not impressed that much so far, and

:15:14. > :15:19.I am watching quite nervously to see if they can improve on what

:15:19. > :15:29.they have done in the relays. For me, and crossing my fingers for

:15:29. > :15:30.

:15:30. > :15:34.Thank you. Just for Clare Balding, let's talk about eventing. There

:15:34. > :15:39.are two gold medals up for grabs today in the team and individual

:15:39. > :15:42.jumping finals. We will go live to Greenwich Park in just a moment,

:15:42. > :15:47.but first the key moments from yesterday.

:15:47. > :15:56.Away goes Britain's first rider, Nicola Wilson. Opposition Buzz

:15:56. > :16:06.looking as good as ever. This horse is fit. Can she make the most of

:16:06. > :16:07.

:16:07. > :16:11.it? She will be number two inside the time and Britain are off to a

:16:11. > :16:21.start that they wanted. Mary King for Great Britain, riding Imperial

:16:21. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:34.Cavalier. That is how it should be That is all right. Mary King is

:16:34. > :16:37.coming home. The crowds are there. Not inside the time but Britain

:16:37. > :16:46.still on target. Prince William, Prince Harry, all the family are

:16:46. > :16:56.here. Witnessing Zara Phillips's first ever Olympic ride. I like

:16:56. > :17:02.

:17:02. > :17:11.Seven seconds adrift. What has the horse got left? Absolutely

:17:11. > :17:18.screaming out of the arena. This is quick. She is going to be inside!

:17:18. > :17:26.She has done it! Zara Phillips has produced the goods. Britain are

:17:26. > :17:36.really giving the rest of the world a run for their money. It is a

:17:36. > :17:39.

:17:39. > :17:46.Look at that, she has gone into overdrive. She is in touch. Tina

:17:46. > :17:52.Cook turns the corner. And she is home! She is home inside and she

:17:52. > :17:59.goes bird. She is in medal contention at the moment. William

:17:59. > :18:06.Fox-Pitt is away, ranked No. 1 in the world. And he is flying. They

:18:06. > :18:16.are standing on their feet. That noise is incredible. Fasten your

:18:16. > :18:17.

:18:17. > :18:27.safety belts, William Fox-Pitt is The horse beginning to look a

:18:27. > :18:29.

:18:29. > :18:35.little bit weary. Not a huge amount of petrol left in this tank. 9.2 to

:18:35. > :18:40.add to William Fox-Pitt's time. We are still right there and nobody

:18:40. > :18:44.can sleep easy tonight. This is a very big day for the

:18:44. > :18:49.British team. They are in second place at the moment. Could this be

:18:49. > :18:58.where the first British gold medal comes? Eventing is a unique Olympic

:18:58. > :19:01.sport because men and women compete on equal terms. Tina Cook, Zara

:19:01. > :19:11.Phillips and Mary King Olsen in the individual competitions. We have

:19:11. > :19:12.

:19:12. > :19:15.had the vet inspections. No glorious weather. The sadly, no,

:19:15. > :19:19.but the first hurdle for the British riders has been cleared.

:19:19. > :19:25.The riders have all passed the better inspection. It is always an

:19:25. > :19:30.nervous and tense time. Yes, the horses came out yesterday really

:19:30. > :19:33.well, but you never know. They looked fantastic this morning. They

:19:33. > :19:39.looked as though they were ready to start the competition, not finish

:19:39. > :19:42.it. There are five members of the team but there is a lot of

:19:42. > :19:45.attention on one ride in particular. This is taking place in front of

:19:45. > :19:49.the Queen's house, and Zara Phillips is getting a lot of

:19:49. > :19:53.attention, her granddaughter. Mike Tindall, her husband is here,

:19:53. > :19:57.having celebrated their first wedding anniversary yesterday. How

:19:57. > :20:02.is she coping? What a way to celebrate their first wedding

:20:02. > :20:06.anniversary. She has got a very cool head on her. She coped

:20:06. > :20:10.incredibly well. She had the right of her life yesterday. After the

:20:11. > :20:15.years of Toytown and being so successful, we wondered if she was

:20:15. > :20:20.going to be a one-horse wonder and she has proved everybody wrong. It

:20:20. > :20:25.was fantastic. The perfect way to celebrate your first wedding

:20:25. > :20:29.anniversary, a superb performance on High Kingdom. As things stand,

:20:29. > :20:35.she is in six, at Tina Cook in the 5th. They are not far away from the

:20:35. > :20:40.leaders. Mark Todd is a fraction away in third. He won his first

:20:40. > :20:46.gold medal in 1984. He has got a huge chance again. How will the

:20:46. > :20:52.British riders go in the individual competition? Well, they have got

:20:52. > :20:55.two rounds to jump. That carries forward. If they are down, that

:20:55. > :21:00.blows the individual chances. If they Jubber clear round for the

:21:00. > :21:05.team, then the chances of a second clear round is positive. -- if they

:21:05. > :21:10.jump a clear round. But anything can go wrong because it is such an

:21:10. > :21:14.open competition. Speaking of individuals, Michael Young is

:21:14. > :21:18.actually 30 today, and he has a great chance of winning a gold

:21:18. > :21:22.medal. He is part of team Germany, currently leading the team

:21:22. > :21:27.standings. But the first four teams are very close with just nine

:21:27. > :21:32.points between them. Great Britain lies second, Sweden third and New

:21:32. > :21:35.Zealand not far away as well. incredibly close. We are in a great

:21:35. > :21:39.position and we could put pressure on the Germans if we jump a clear

:21:39. > :21:46.round. At the end of the competition we said yesterday that

:21:46. > :21:49.we could go away with a gold medal or nothing, it is that close.

:21:49. > :21:54.can see the show jumping course behind us. What is the time limit?

:21:54. > :21:59.83 seconds. Have you been round? What do you think? I have not

:21:59. > :22:03.walked it yet but it does look very solid. Sometimes it can look a bit

:22:03. > :22:08.light. But it is very artistic and that is good for getting the horses

:22:08. > :22:14.up in the air. We will have some good rounds, with any luck. Fingers

:22:14. > :22:19.crossed for good fortune for Great Britain. The first riders are

:22:19. > :22:22.setting off at 10:30am. Fingers crossed. We will be back at

:22:22. > :22:26.Greenwich throughout the morning. Are you looking forward to this

:22:26. > :22:32.particular event? What do you make of the equestrian side of things?

:22:32. > :22:36.am not sure. I don't know much about it. It is beautiful. I think

:22:36. > :22:38.maybe the best of British. That is one of the great things about the

:22:38. > :22:42.Olympics, you end up watching sport that you might never have watched

:22:42. > :22:46.before and you end up learning something and enjoying it. This is

:22:46. > :22:49.completely true. I did an interview with Carl Lewis and he makes a

:22:49. > :22:58.point of going to two Olympic events that he has never seen

:23:10. > :23:14.go to Lord's because Naomi Folkard is in action with the archers.

:23:14. > :23:21.Before we see that, let's get a tour of the new line of archery

:23:21. > :23:24.from a man who knows this part of St John's Wood rather well. -- the

:23:24. > :23:30.new home of archery. I remember when I first played here,

:23:34. > :23:41.I was incomplete all of the surroundings. The atmosphere of the

:24:05. > :24:10.Lord's is one of the most famous sporting venues in the world. How

:24:10. > :24:14.fitting that this great cricket ground, which is almost 200 years

:24:14. > :24:19.old, plays a part in the London Olympics. I don't think it was a

:24:19. > :24:24.difficult decision because we were integral for the bid process in

:24:24. > :24:27.2002. The committee took the decision to be involved in the

:24:27. > :24:32.Olympics and to be one of the iconic venues that we will see

:24:32. > :24:37.during that period. In the early 19th century, this was just a duck

:24:37. > :24:43.pond in the middle of St John's Wood. The Marylebone Cricket

:24:43. > :24:48.members, noble men and aristocrats, wanted somewhere private to play.

:24:48. > :24:53.Thomas Lord bought up the land and built the new ground. This

:24:53. > :24:58.particular ground was built in 1814, so we have been here 198 years. The

:24:58. > :25:01.Pavilion has been there since 1890. It is the third want to be built

:25:01. > :25:05.there, because the first one was burned in a fire which also

:25:05. > :25:09.destroyed all of the club's records. The next one was demolished at the

:25:09. > :25:16.end of the 1880s because it just was not big enough anymore. A rich

:25:16. > :25:20.is true but not always proud. In 1999, the committee granted female

:25:20. > :25:24.membership. Up until that point women were not permitted to enter

:25:24. > :25:27.the Long Room and any part of the Pavilion. It is not an issue now.

:25:27. > :25:31.It is in relative recent history that decision was made. Everybody

:25:31. > :25:38.is comfortable with it. Since then, they have made a huge effort to

:25:38. > :25:42.advance women's cricket. Now that is a vibrant section of the club

:25:48. > :25:53.the wicket was prepared by allowing sheep to come in and graze on the

:25:53. > :25:57.grass. Things are different today. The groundstaff worked tirelessly

:25:57. > :26:01.to keep the pitch in pristine condition. Everybody is worried

:26:01. > :26:06.about the hallowed turf. We are not going to touch it, we do not use it,

:26:06. > :26:09.nobody will be walking on it, there will be no agreement on it. The

:26:19. > :26:22.We will give it back in the pristine condition that we received

:26:22. > :26:27.it in. This is not the first time that Lords has played host to other

:26:27. > :26:32.sports. This ground has already proved its adaptability. One of the

:26:32. > :26:40.most famous was a game of baseball between Canadian and American teams

:26:43. > :26:47.ground was set aside for archery but we do not know if it was used.

:26:47. > :26:51.Lord's has changed over 200 years, cricketing greats have come and

:30:57. > :31:03.is 2-2. Oh, that will be a relief. She will be absolutely relieved

:31:03. > :31:07.with that. It is nice to get a set in, it will calm her nerves, enable

:31:07. > :31:11.her to shoot arrows the way she does every single day. She works so

:31:11. > :31:18.hard for this, she is so committed and driven. She must be shooting a

:31:18. > :31:27.good five hours per day, plus work in the gym, plus mental routine

:31:27. > :31:36.work. Kristina Temofeeva is ranked 23rd out of 64. Naomi Folkard is

:31:46. > :32:08.

:32:19. > :32:30.

:32:30. > :32:34.the start of the third set. Lovely 20 out of 20. Naomi has got a

:32:34. > :32:38.really tough draw here, because the score in the ranking round was much

:32:38. > :32:48.lower than she usually shoots, and she is up against a much better

:32:48. > :33:00.

:33:00. > :33:10.archer earlier on. Trailing by four This is merely practice. Well, that

:34:02. > :34:07.by her. She shot 650 in her qualification round, and this is

:34:07. > :34:17.much better shooting and what she was doing in that ragging round.

:34:17. > :34:22.

:34:22. > :34:32.The flags above the stand up waving Not such a factor today. Folkard

:34:32. > :34:46.

:34:46. > :34:56.She has got the most fantastic release, brilliant. She stays in

:34:56. > :34:58.

:34:58. > :35:06.And Timofeeva drops down into the blue rings. Putting the pressure

:35:06. > :35:16.back on her, she does not seem to respond well. Fabulous! Nine, that

:35:16. > :35:16.

:35:16. > :35:21.is good enough to win the set. We If they tie it, if their scores at

:35:21. > :35:29.the end of the Fifth set are the same, they share one point, and

:35:29. > :35:33.then we will have what is a very dramatic way to end the contest, a

:35:33. > :35:43.one arrow shoot off. The arrow closer to the centre of the target

:35:43. > :35:46.

:35:46. > :35:52.That was a really good comeback. She started a little bit low,

:35:52. > :36:02.compared to usual. Who can blame her? The crowd noise must be

:37:14. > :37:28.

:37:29. > :37:33.It is a nine, Naomi Folkard goes through to the next round! Oh, oh,

:37:33. > :37:43.she will be thrilled with that comeback! Well done, we are so

:37:43. > :37:48.

:37:48. > :37:51.proud of you. Keep it up! Kristina Temofeeva or, it is only a quick

:37:51. > :37:58.turnaround for Naomi Folkard. She has not got much time before she is

:37:58. > :38:02.Some tense moments at the archery, but their Tommy Farr card doing

:38:02. > :38:07.very well, through to the next round, and we will try to get back

:38:07. > :38:10.to her later. -- but Naomi Folkard doing very well. If you want to

:38:10. > :38:15.continue watching the archery uninterrupted, just press the red

:38:15. > :38:18.button. Lots of other options, including the beach volleyball

:38:18. > :38:23.which is under way with Brazil's number one seeds on court later

:38:23. > :38:28.this morning. Hockey is happening at the Olympic Park, the Dutch

:38:28. > :38:32.women are action against Japan, that is live right now on BBC Three.

:38:32. > :38:35.Hopefully you know already that there are lots of options on the

:38:35. > :38:38.red button, and what you can see depends a bit on your television

:38:39. > :38:45.provider, but everything is available on their BBC Sport

:38:45. > :38:49.website. Enjoy it all, a chance to see many Kellett exports you might

:38:49. > :38:52.not otherwise get the chance to. The rowing heats at Eton Dorney are

:38:52. > :38:57.continuing with another British boats taking to the water at around

:38:57. > :39:02.10:15am. They are looking very strong indeed, the first finals

:39:02. > :39:04.taking place tomorrow, but in one heat yesterday there was an Olympic

:39:04. > :39:09.record for Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins in the women's double

:39:09. > :39:15.sculls, and the men's four eased through their heat. This is the

:39:16. > :39:19.event which has brought Britain three golds in a row. The men are

:39:19. > :39:25.looking to continue that to make it a 4th. John Inverdale has been

:39:25. > :39:31.talking to the men who started that golden trend in Sydney in 2000. A

:39:31. > :39:35.coxless four past to talk about the coxless four present. Matthew

:39:35. > :39:39.Pinsent, what was your assessment of them today? The best I have seen

:39:39. > :39:43.them all season, which is obviously the best I have seen that

:39:43. > :39:46.combination row, and it is a great time to pull it out. I hope that

:39:46. > :39:51.they will step on through the regatta, because I also thought the

:39:51. > :39:57.Australians looked good, and it is set up for a fantastic clash in the

:39:57. > :40:01.final, as against Australia for the gold medal. James? Well, two things,

:40:01. > :40:05.because Australia are in the first heat, they would get another heat

:40:05. > :40:10.winner, so we could meet before the final, it could be a semi-final

:40:10. > :40:14.showdown, which would be interesting. As Matt said, the

:40:14. > :40:17.Brits looked very good in the middle, better in the first minute

:40:17. > :40:20.than the Australians did, and that is what I was looking for, because

:40:20. > :40:24.we knew they would win their heats, it was about getting something for

:40:24. > :40:29.nothing out of the blocks, and the Brits in that better than the

:40:29. > :40:33.Australians. The Australians looked good as well, but I thought there

:40:33. > :40:38.was a crumbling V8 in our engine, rather than the high-revving

:40:38. > :40:43.Japanese engine! A good analogy, I like it. Who is ahead on points at

:40:43. > :40:47.the moment? Steve? I think it is pretty even, most people would put

:40:47. > :40:51.the Aussies on top because they are the ones that are winners of the

:40:51. > :40:56.last race coming into this, but this is what everyone is talking

:40:56. > :41:01.about, the stylish crew, but as James says, our guys have got the

:41:01. > :41:06.power. If this win turned around the other way, it would be

:41:06. > :41:10.different. It is up for grabs for both boats. There is the inevitable

:41:10. > :41:14.media speculation, as against them, Britain against Australia, there is

:41:14. > :41:21.added piquancy to it. How to the guys switch of over the next three

:41:21. > :41:27.or four days? It is about six minutes in a few days' time. 10 off

:41:27. > :41:31.their homes, don't read the paper, don't watch television. -- Gen off.

:41:31. > :41:34.You can't do that, can you? It was a lot easier for as any foreign

:41:34. > :41:39.Olympics, we were stuck watching terrible Australian television.

:41:39. > :41:43.They were not talking about us, whereas the skies will have the BBC

:41:43. > :41:48.and the build up pieces and all of that. They will do well to avoid at

:41:48. > :41:52.all. A serious point, you did not have Twitter and everything else,

:41:52. > :41:59.people barrage he knew every five seconds with good luck, where is my

:41:59. > :42:02.tickets? A lot of us still do not have Twitter! Switch off the phone,

:42:02. > :42:07.change your number, it will be great afterwards with a gold medal

:42:07. > :42:13.around your neck, that is all that matters. James? I think the big

:42:13. > :42:19.difference from Beijing and from us when we raced, because the

:42:19. > :42:24.programme has changed, the four used to be the first finals day,

:42:24. > :42:28.the last race of the finals day. But here they are the last of four,

:42:28. > :42:32.so they will have watched the men's eight medal, they will have watched

:42:32. > :42:37.everything else happen, and they will be chomping at the bit to get

:42:37. > :42:40.going and the regatta is three days old. When they carried the flag, we

:42:40. > :42:44.were debating whether to go to the ceremony because we were raising

:42:44. > :42:48.the next day. They have had to wait around for the heat and now they

:42:48. > :42:54.have to wait while everybody else is going out for a drink. You never

:42:54. > :42:59.had the strength to carry the flag. I may not have been asked! I turned

:43:00. > :43:03.my own off to early! I would have been lighting the flame! My first

:43:03. > :43:08.time, there were not even any mobile phones, I have nothing to

:43:08. > :43:12.turn off. You at the carrier pigeon! Are you more optimistic

:43:12. > :43:18.about their prospects today, having seen both crews in their first

:43:18. > :43:21.races? No change? I would have put... Coming into the regatta, to

:43:21. > :43:25.be honest, I would have put the Australians as marginal favourites,

:43:26. > :43:31.but now I would putt as slightly ahead, but you are talking tiny

:43:31. > :43:38.amounts, and as you say, it is all speculation. There is an old saying

:43:38. > :43:43.in rowing, the beef stops when the flag drops, we can talk about it as

:43:44. > :43:47.much as we like, but until we see them with the metals, we will not

:43:47. > :43:52.know for sure. I'm sure we will keep talking for the next few days,

:43:52. > :43:56.good luck. As you might have heard earlier,

:43:56. > :44:01.the first British boat is on the water in an hour's time, and all

:44:01. > :44:06.the action will be on BBC Three this morning.

:44:06. > :44:15.Here on BBC One, time to talk judo, but before we had over to the ExCeL

:44:15. > :44:22.arena, this is your guide to the The playing area is a farm covered

:44:22. > :44:26.mat. It has a 10m square contest area surrounded by a safety area.

:44:30. > :44:35.two external line judges will stay outside the combat area and confirm

:45:36. > :45:41.There you have it, your guide to judo. It was a disappointing day

:45:41. > :45:46.for Britain yesterday. Early exits for Sarah Clark and Danny Williams.

:45:46. > :45:56.Gemma Howell has a tough task this morning taking on the 2011 World

:47:08. > :47:13.British fighter that we have seen so far this week. Only Colin Oates

:47:19. > :47:22.seeded. They have been put up against much higher-ranked

:47:22. > :47:26.opponents in the opening rounds and as well as they have fought, they

:47:26. > :47:30.have been treading to find the bottom of the pool. Always out of

:47:31. > :47:40.their depth and that might be the case here. Gemma Howell doing so

:47:40. > :47:43.well to get underneath. She is not going to die wondering. She is a

:47:43. > :47:47.winning attack and she will spend as much time as possible going

:47:47. > :47:57.forward. She is a gutsy fighter and she is not frightened of anyone.

:03:20. > :03:24.look at it, it means Michael Phelps will be considered at a very

:03:24. > :03:33.different level the greatest Olympian on results. Their idea

:03:33. > :03:40.that he needs to just win three medals of any colour, it sounds so

:03:40. > :03:46.easy. They us is the point, it isn't that simple. We often assume

:03:46. > :03:52.that for these great athletes, they just need to get in and swim. Their

:03:57. > :04:02.has worked hard and I think he will do it, it is just when he will do

:04:02. > :04:07.it. Swimming is one of those sports where it is very difficult to

:04:07. > :04:13.defend your title. The four year gap, and swimming moves on very

:04:13. > :04:19.quickly. It does, and for Michael Phelps to be so dominant over a

:07:53. > :07:54.

:10:38. > :11:08.

:11:08. > :11:18.few days. Now trailing, Naomi dropped three points. Naomi is used

:12:10. > :12:17.to five points, just one away from the six. She can afford to draw the

:12:17. > :12:25.next set. She certainly not out of this competition. We saw a

:19:45. > :19:53.the world record holder just goes 48.5. James Roberts in four, a

:19:53. > :20:01.decent start in three. Moore got a great start. James is used to

:20:01. > :20:11.getting off the blocks quickly. Agnel needs a bit of time to wind

:20:19. > :20:25.up. Right now he is not in the he has got a lot of work to do.

:20:25. > :20:32.Timmers of Belgium... I think he has got it. Czerniak is second,

:20:32. > :20:40.tied for third. Roberts was nowhere with 25 metres to go and he has

:20:40. > :20:44.tied for third with Agnel of France. This is really interesting. A lot

:20:44. > :20:48.of swimmers we might have expected to be showing in the form book, not

:20:48. > :20:51.performing. This has been one of those Olympics were you couldn't

:20:51. > :20:56.call anything. This is an interesting finish. It is about who

:20:56. > :21:06.gets fingers on the wall first. At the bottom of the pool, a big

:21:06. > :21:23.

:21:23. > :21:27.freestyle. We see the fastest men in the world. James Magnussen has

:21:27. > :21:35.talked a lot but he did not perform anywhere near what he was expected

:21:35. > :21:43.to do on the men's 4x100 metre relay. There is the fastest man in

:21:43. > :21:50.the world. The has been a lot of chatter in Australia about this. He

:21:50. > :22:00.likes to talk himself up. Aidan of calendar is a mean-looking chap, he

:22:34. > :22:38.100 as well, maybe he is seeing his opportunity. At the top, Fraser of

:22:38. > :22:42.the Cayman Islands is strong. Innes looks very good and he looks

:22:42. > :22:52.like he is being relatively comfortable. The middle lanes are

:22:52. > :23:04.

:23:04. > :23:14.starting to come back. Magnussen is touch. It is not that fast --

:23:14. > :23:19.Verschueren it of Holland. That is a slower heat. Magnussen, 49.3, he

:23:19. > :23:24.should make it. Jones couldn't hold on to the lead. A great 50m

:23:24. > :23:29.sprinter, he is going to be in the medal contention for that one, but

:24:34. > :24:37.other swimmers, you have to do enough to make the semi-finals.

:24:37. > :24:41.There is so much debt and the times are not getting that much faster

:24:41. > :24:46.but everybody is squeezing up. What you saw in Cielo, he eased off an

:24:46. > :24:51.awful lot. He has made it through intense but it could have been one

:24:51. > :24:56.of those situations where he didn't make it through. He has a lot more.

:24:56. > :24:59.Also Agnel, he was playing a little bit but sometimes it can backfire.

:24:59. > :25:05.We probably didn't give him enough attention last night because it was

:25:05. > :25:08.an extraordinary performance, and Lochte didn't even win a medal.

:25:08. > :25:13.were saying that blocked he was going to do a Michael Voss, it

:25:13. > :25:23.shows you how good that Agnel was, he beat them both by a body length

:25:23. > :25:28.

:25:28. > :25:33.I would love to have seen at to make it through to the semi-finals,

:25:33. > :25:38.but it was a brilliant swim. We are trying to be realistic about

:25:38. > :25:42.British swimmers chances. We have quite high hopes later that German

:25:42. > :25:52.low and Ellen Gandy will turn on the power in the butterfly or

:25:52. > :25:54.

:25:54. > :26:00.A few thoughts from Ian, the 100m freestyle was one of York races.

:26:01. > :26:05.What Jean Magnussen, it is an improvement. -- one of your races.

:26:05. > :26:12.-- bought chink Magnussen, he hasn't swum that well -- watching

:26:12. > :26:15.Magnussen. He was breathing into the finish, he is taking a breath

:26:15. > :26:20.each stroke instead of putting his head down to get the best time. It

:26:20. > :26:23.is conserving, not restricting. is a tricky balance, these heats

:26:23. > :26:27.are incredibly competitive. They are, a few people have really

:26:27. > :26:32.messed this up and they have missed out by trying to do the sneaky

:26:32. > :26:38.things that we do to conserve energy. Cielo, surprised he went

:26:38. > :26:42.through in 10th. He looked good, I have seen him look a lot better.

:26:42. > :26:48.Agnel... The gold medallist from last night. We expect a lot from

:26:48. > :26:52.him. His 200 performance was wonderful. Fantastic. It has been a

:26:52. > :26:57.good Olympics overall for French women. It really has. I feel like

:26:57. > :27:00.there has been a renaissance for swimming in Europe. Big tended to

:27:00. > :27:05.be that Germany was swimming well and none of the other countries --

:27:05. > :27:10.it tended to be. It seems now that across Europe, everyone is swimming

:27:10. > :27:17.well, but so is Asia, America. Australia have got to win a couple

:27:17. > :27:22.more. In Brazil, South America as well. A good thing for the sport

:27:22. > :27:25.overall. It is, swimming has become more global over the last 10 years.

:27:25. > :27:29.High participation rates and we are seeing people swim from countries

:27:29. > :27:33.we have never really heard of, and they are producing results that are

:27:33. > :27:39.fantastic. We saw you at the pool yesterday, being there physically

:27:39. > :27:45.and watching them dive into the water. Do you miss it? I missed

:27:45. > :27:51.being at the competition. I still train, I know what this feels like.

:27:51. > :27:55.Around the pool, I am sitting here in the BBC saying, I want to be

:27:55. > :28:02.down there with the rest of the team. Look, I have to remove myself

:28:02. > :28:05.from feeling like I am part of the team. And do this job. You are

:28:05. > :28:10.still training, have be entirely ruled out a final comeback be

:28:10. > :28:14.competitive swimming? -- have few entirely? I wanted to swim here, I

:28:15. > :28:19.missed out. I had a bad swim. I can relate to what a few of these

:28:19. > :28:23.rumours are going through when they miss out on a final. It happened to

:28:23. > :28:27.me. During the Olympics, I am watching like everyone else. I will

:28:27. > :28:30.get back in the pool and look at what the next competition is.

:28:31. > :28:36.You're definitely part of my team. A couple of people have been

:28:36. > :28:41.treating saying, is it more exhausting to be a competitor or a

:28:41. > :28:46.pundit? -- a couple of people have been tweeting. I get more sleep

:28:46. > :28:50.when I am competing! It is an intense thing, you exhaust yourself

:28:50. > :28:54.for the short performance. Sitting here for quite some time talking...

:28:54. > :28:58.I saw another tweet asking if the sofas are comfortable. There is

:28:58. > :29:01.only one correct answer. It might be comfortable there that I am

:29:01. > :29:08.sitting on and what part of the sofa which is not the most

:29:08. > :29:13.comfortable -- they look good, though. We will talk again in a

:29:13. > :29:18.moment, we are going to get back to the Aquatics Centre, the next heat

:29:19. > :29:23.is the butterfly. This features the 2011 World Championship silver

:29:23. > :29:30.medallist, Ellen Gandy, and also Jemma Lowe. The are in separate

:29:30. > :29:37.heats. Ellen Gandy was one of the poster goals for back the bid, when

:29:37. > :29:40.we started to mount a serious bid for the London Games -- one of the

:29:40. > :29:44.poster girls. She was 12 then and it would be

:29:44. > :29:49.inappropriate if she could come through and win. -- it would be

:29:49. > :29:58.appropriate. Very much so. This is one offer events. She is not a

:29:58. > :30:04.sprinter, she has more endurance. - - This is one of her events. The

:30:04. > :30:07.fact that Jenna didn't make the 100 butterfly, we have three girls in

:30:07. > :30:13.the top five in the world in the 100 butterfly, it shows you what

:30:13. > :30:16.strength in depth we have got and these are two of the best 200

:30:16. > :30:26.swimmers in the world. Let's get them through to the semi-finals.

:30:26. > :30:28.

:30:28. > :30:34.And they are the right age to be peaking now. They are absolutely on

:30:34. > :30:37.the crest of the wave, coming up to the top. Ellen Gandy was a silver

:30:37. > :30:43.medallist at the World Championships in this event so she

:30:43. > :30:47.has that big race mentality. That experience, walking out here, going

:30:48. > :30:54.through the preparation, I have noticed every race she does she

:30:54. > :31:00.goes slightly faster. Swimmers love racing, but this is someone who

:31:00. > :31:05.loves a dog fight. You will always find her coming back at people.

:31:05. > :31:15.will see Ellen Gandy first, she is down there behind the blocks so

:31:15. > :31:39.

:31:39. > :31:49.the world champion. Listen to this crowd. She is taking a big breath,

:31:49. > :32:07.

:32:07. > :32:13.trying to take all that energy from 200m butterfly, and Ellen Gandy got

:32:13. > :32:22.a decent start, but an excellent start from the Chinese competitor.

:32:22. > :32:26.She has had one race already, so she has got a feel for everything,

:32:26. > :32:32.so maybe shaking that off was a good thing for her. When we saw

:32:32. > :32:42.that race, we knew she still had the 200m to go. Turning for the

:32:42. > :32:44.

:32:44. > :32:51.first 50m, a good underwater turn. Ellen Gandy seeming to have the

:32:51. > :33:00.speed between the walls, let's see what happens on this turn. Ellen

:33:00. > :33:05.Gandy and Great Britain looking very good indeed as we come to this

:33:05. > :33:10.turn. She was first to turn, and her time was very good, just

:33:10. > :33:20.outside the time she set at half way to set the British record. The

:33:20. > :33:24.

:33:24. > :33:32.first of the seeded heats was won by Hoshi of Japan. She is looking

:33:32. > :33:42.OK, starting to tire a little bit. The other swimmers are starting to

:33:42. > :33:49.

:33:49. > :33:54.track her a little bit. A great turn from the Chinese, Lu Yang. If

:33:54. > :34:02.she can get in the top four, that is OK, but she is starting to tire

:34:02. > :34:09.now. She needs to make sure she gets to the semi-final, she really

:34:09. > :34:16.doesn't look good at all at the moment. That was a strong, sensible

:34:16. > :34:22.swim from the world champion. Ellen Gandy finished in fifth place. That

:34:22. > :34:32.is close to the edge. The top 16 will make it. It is purely on the

:34:32. > :34:38.fastest times, and that will be close. This is maybe the third 50,

:34:38. > :34:48.where she started to tire a little bit. You can't doubt her commitment.

:34:48. > :34:48.

:34:49. > :34:57.She stuck on the block, and she really went for it. Underneath two

:34:57. > :35:03.minutes 10 would have been good enough. Maybe that will be OK,

:35:03. > :35:13.let's hope so. It will be mighty close. Heres confirmation of the

:35:13. > :35:40.

:35:40. > :35:50.-- beat her. If six beat her, we are in trouble. Jemma Lowe in lane

:35:50. > :35:53.

:35:53. > :36:03.five, focusing on just this event. We have an Olympic champion from

:36:03. > :36:04.

:36:04. > :36:13.Athens in lane two. Let's hope Jemma Lowe really takes this

:36:13. > :36:23.opportunity. The final heat of the women's 200m butterfly, and Jemma

:36:23. > :36:25.

:36:25. > :36:32.Lowe of Great Britain, coached by board McAllister down in Swansea.

:36:32. > :36:38.Nice sensible long rangy stroke down the first 50, then pick it up

:36:39. > :36:48.after she has turned. The key is to manage these emotions, not get too

:36:49. > :36:50.

:36:50. > :36:55.excited. I am hoping Ellen Gandy will have a chance to fight again.

:36:55. > :37:03.She needs to stay on the shoulders of the other two swimmers. It is

:37:03. > :37:13.easier for me to sit here and say that rather than to do it, but if

:37:13. > :37:23.she can accelerate on the next turn, that would be a good thing. If six

:37:23. > :37:23.

:37:23. > :37:33.are quick, Ellen Gandy will be in trouble. 60.6 D8 she was at the

:37:33. > :37:38.

:37:38. > :37:42.turn. -- 60.68. Jemma Lowe was coming through very nicely. It is

:37:42. > :37:52.fantastic seeing her keeping up with her competitor out of the

:37:52. > :37:56.

:37:56. > :38:00.corner of her eye. I think she will have energy towards the end to hold

:38:00. > :38:07.second place. The she looks fantastic, she really does. She

:38:07. > :38:14.doesn't need to kill it, she just needs to stroke it through. She

:38:14. > :38:20.must be thinking that if this were met in first place is that far

:38:20. > :38:30.ahead, the others will be it as well. A massive cheer from the

:38:30. > :38:31.

:38:31. > :38:41.crowd. I can tell you there are six swimmers under two minutes 10, so

:38:41. > :38:44.

:38:44. > :38:51.Ellen Gandy may well be in 17th place. Just check the computer. She

:38:51. > :38:56.has missed out, that is a real shame. A silver medallist from the

:38:56. > :39:04.world championships last year, one of our medal contenders, she has

:39:04. > :39:08.had a bit of a nightmare this morning. Jemma Lowe, second place

:39:08. > :39:13.in the red cat, beating the world record holder in the white cap and

:39:13. > :39:22.of her. That was a good swim, so we have one person in there with a

:39:22. > :39:26.chance. Jemma Lowe swimming well, and the first six swimmers will be

:39:26. > :39:34.through to the semi-final. That unfortunately means Ellen Gandy

:39:34. > :39:44.will not be through to the semi- final. She looks very fresh, a good

:39:44. > :39:49.swim. She is third fastest, that is good to see. She has been really

:39:49. > :39:54.underneath the radar. That is a good place to be, really. She can

:39:54. > :40:04.concentrate on this event, so it is nice to see that. She will have a

:40:04. > :40:10.

:40:10. > :40:16.good chance in the final, the semi- Pacing on the 200m butterfly is so

:40:16. > :40:20.important, isn't it? You don't know how long I have been waiting to get

:40:20. > :40:26.into the pool and swim. I have been waiting for a few days and I have

:40:26. > :40:31.been getting anxious and more nervous every day. I am so happy to

:40:31. > :40:37.know the first swim is done, and I am swimming well. It is the best

:40:37. > :40:44.morning swim I have done and I am pleased with the time. I am pleased,

:40:44. > :40:54.but it is so important to get the pacing right, isn't it? The Crown

:40:54. > :40:58.

:40:58. > :41:03.were amazing -- crowd, they kept me going and kept me positive so it

:41:03. > :41:10.was fabulous. I know you will give a fantastic battle. Ellen Gandy has

:41:10. > :41:15.missed out. She will be devastated. Absolutely, but she has made an

:41:15. > :41:22.Olympic final and that is fabulous. We can only do our best and I am

:41:22. > :41:27.sure she gave it everything. will see you later on.

:41:27. > :41:34.She will be in action tonight, but sadly not Ellen Gandy and it is

:41:34. > :41:39.interesting the effect of the crowd. Ellen Gandy, not a case of not

:41:39. > :41:44.trying enough, but possibly trying too hard, too early. Sometimes you

:41:44. > :41:49.can get too excited and the adrenalin can takeover. In the

:41:49. > :41:55.first 50m I was saying look how good she looks, but if you go too

:41:55. > :42:00.hard that can cause problems at the end. We start saving elephants and

:42:00. > :42:06.pianos on your back when you start sinking. We saw the Chinese girl in

:42:06. > :42:10.the last heat, the reigning Olympic champion, and she was fatigue. She

:42:10. > :42:15.could have been the one who missed out, so it shows there is a

:42:15. > :42:20.difference between nerves and excitement, rather than doing your

:42:20. > :42:24.own race. Jemma Lowe did her own race and it flowed and looked so

:42:24. > :42:31.nice. The shows how much the athletes have to deal with their

:42:31. > :42:35.own expectation. It is one thing us wanting them to do well, but this

:42:35. > :42:42.is their big chance and she didn't even get a chance to swim in the

:42:42. > :42:45.semi-finals. Devastating because on the rankings going in, she was in

:42:45. > :42:50.fifth place in the world so she was in a good position to make it

:42:50. > :42:57.through quite comfortably. She will be devastated. The fact that she

:42:57. > :43:02.was anxious, we saw that at the trials. We knew we had those two

:43:02. > :43:07.people who were very good, but you need to get it right at the Olympic

:43:07. > :43:14.Games. You can't get it wrong. There is something which was

:43:14. > :43:21.brought up last night, and you were going to reveal what happens in the

:43:21. > :43:26.court room before the swimmers, out. What I used to do, you have all of

:43:26. > :43:31.the lanes, different rose as the heat, out. There is an area in

:43:31. > :43:39.front of it. I used to lie down, partly because when I got nervous I

:43:39. > :43:47.would start yawning and get tired, and I found people sitting there

:43:47. > :43:53.would say to me that they were getting so anxious that I looked so

:43:53. > :43:58.relaxed. I used to play on that and make people feel worse about it.

:43:58. > :44:03.People have their headphones on, they go through their routine. They

:44:03. > :44:08.might have hip hop or something playing, and they don't want to

:44:08. > :44:16.hear the noise because they know that that is for British swimmers

:44:16. > :44:22.or someone else. Suddenly you have 17,000 people. I remember Rebecca

:44:22. > :44:28.Adlington saying that she does not lock up because she is not used to

:44:28. > :44:33.this. I used to live there, it was not too outrageous. That proves

:44:33. > :44:36.that this is the biggest organ in your body, if you can train your

:44:36. > :44:41.brain everything will work better for you.

:44:41. > :44:50.It is a bit moment coming up in the three-day eventing in Greenwich. At

:44:50. > :45:00.the moment, Great Britain in silver position. Yes, every time you have

:45:00. > :45:00.

:45:00. > :45:07.a fence down, that is for penalty points. You can't select the best

:45:07. > :45:13.dressage, showjumping and cross- country, I have got to take the

:45:13. > :45:18.best overall riders. And some stunning individual performances,

:45:18. > :45:23.including from Zara Phillips. is an amazing competitor under

:45:23. > :45:28.pressure. She is so cool before the big moments. She almost looks like

:45:29. > :45:33.I do this every day, which clearly she doesn't - it is her first

:45:33. > :45:38.Olympic Games. I would be very confident, and they have done a lot

:45:38. > :45:43.of psychological training with the riders because the way that you

:45:43. > :45:49.tense up transmits through to the horses, which reacts to you. I

:45:49. > :45:55.would say that out of the team of five, they are all very cool. Mary

:45:55. > :46:00.King gets excited but it seems not to transmit to much. Tina Cook is

:46:00. > :46:04.amazing under pressure, and the pressure is off Nicola Wilson

:46:04. > :46:14.because her score will not need to count. The best three scores will

:46:14. > :46:18.

:46:18. > :46:23.You'd better tell me you're cool root secret. I did nothing. Were --

:46:23. > :46:31.room secret. I used to sitting in the corner. But someone wanted to

:46:31. > :46:40.have a chat, I would chat with them. As soon as I was ready to raise, I

:46:41. > :46:45.would put on my game and face and I would try to own the arena. The

:46:45. > :46:52.book everyone said that intimidated demand was sucking the energy out.

:46:52. > :46:58.I can imagine! Tell me about the 200m butterfly, it is a tough

:46:59. > :47:02.difference -- distance to do that stroke. It really is. You have to

:47:02. > :47:07.see how you are going to be efficient throughout the entire

:47:07. > :47:12.race. What tends to happen in butterfly, you use a lot of

:47:12. > :47:19.abdominal movements to stay quite flat on the top of the water. When

:47:19. > :47:24.it your abdominals start to fatigue, you find your hits -- hips dropping

:47:24. > :47:29.so you have to kick harder down with your legs. You start to arch

:47:29. > :47:32.in the little. And that makes the race harder. You want to manage the

:47:32. > :47:36.energy throughout the race so you don't find yourself trying to pull

:47:36. > :47:41.yourself through. It is an incredibly tough race.

:47:41. > :47:45.Disappointment for Ellen Gandy but Jemma Lowe swam very well.

:47:45. > :47:48.looked fantastic in that race, she timed it very well. I won't say it

:47:48. > :47:53.was a comfortable swim, it was a good swim. She looks comfortable to

:47:53. > :47:57.get through to the final. How do they manage themselves between now

:47:57. > :48:05.and the next race? It is a recovery pack, which includes a protein

:48:05. > :48:14.shake, Recovery drink, water. You are swimming down, to get lactic

:48:14. > :48:19.acid out of your body, possibly a mass such, -- a massage. Maybe a

:48:19. > :48:26.book, and then you do it all over again. Thank you for your company.

:48:26. > :48:32.The swimming heats will be on BBC Three. Ian will be going over there

:48:32. > :48:35.to talk more about swimming. You can see the key rowing races there.

:48:35. > :48:42.On BBC One we will be concentrating on equestrian, the final day of

:48:42. > :48:46.eventing action. Let's show you how that sport works.

:48:46. > :48:55.Equestrian jumping. The jumping course consists of a mixture of

:48:55. > :49:00.spread obstacles and straight vertical obstacles. A water jump

:49:00. > :49:06.may also be included. The jumps are designed so that if the course hits

:49:06. > :49:11.them, part or all of the fence will fall. -- if the horse hits them.

:49:11. > :49:16.Penalties are incurred for mistakes. The rider who accrues the fewest

:49:16. > :49:21.will win the gold medal. Four point penalties are imposed if an

:49:21. > :49:24.obstacle falls, and for a first refusal. There is a one point

:49:24. > :49:29.penalty for every four seconds over the allotted time spent on the

:49:30. > :49:34.course. A second refusal, or a fall for horse or rider will result in

:49:34. > :49:38.disqualification. In event of a tie, riders will contest a jump-off

:49:38. > :49:46.against the clock. If you would like to get involved

:50:22. > :50:29.the equestrian event. Let's join all of the time for what looks to

:50:29. > :50:32.be a such exciting day. This morning, we are in process of

:50:32. > :50:37.deciding the team medals. We have gone through the individuals first,

:50:37. > :50:47.in reverse order of merit, and we are about to start jumping the team

:50:47. > :50:55.

:50:55. > :51:00.inside the time yesterday on that lovely horse. All of the team

:51:00. > :51:05.members can go through to the individual, up to three per country.

:51:05. > :51:12.This round will decide the top 25 which will be jumping later this

:51:12. > :51:17.afternoon. This is where, very shortly, we start the team at

:51:17. > :51:22.medals, it is the last of the individual riders. Only the top

:51:22. > :51:26.four teams, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden and New Zealand have all

:51:26. > :51:32.five riders still competing. It will be the top three scores to

:51:32. > :51:37.account for the team total. The lowest scoring round of each

:51:38. > :51:44.country will go first, with the best going last. We are assured of

:51:44. > :51:52.a grandstand finish. It will be William Fox-Pitt, then Wilson, then

:51:52. > :51:58.Phillips, it then Mary King before Tina Cook. Now it is Stefano

:51:58. > :52:03.Brecciaroli. This lovely horse did not make the time yesterday, after

:52:03. > :52:13.a very good dressage. He was right up there after the dressage. He is

:52:13. > :52:22.on a score of 50.1. He was ranked overnight in 16th. He was very

:52:22. > :52:32.quick turning back to fence three. He is very aware of the time limit.

:52:32. > :52:36.

:52:36. > :52:42.This horse is a very good jumper. he was making tight turns into all

:52:42. > :52:51.his fences. The halls is very capable. They have been on cross-

:52:51. > :53:01.country the day before. -- the horse is very capable. Some of

:53:01. > :53:13.

:53:13. > :53:19.was unusual for him to have a stop. I think Stefano was slightly

:53:19. > :53:25.surprised. When the fence comes down, they stop the clock and fix

:53:25. > :53:35.the fence and you will hear the bell ring as soon as the course is

:53:35. > :53:45.ready -- the horse is ready. If they are out in the wrong direction,

:53:45. > :53:49.

:53:49. > :53:56.it is again a time problem. Such a good jumper. That was a very

:53:56. > :54:06.frustrating stop for Stefano. are time penalties to add as well,

:54:06. > :54:11.

:54:11. > :54:18.seven in all. He is on to 61.1. Stefano Brecciaroli, and Apollo WD

:54:18. > :54:26.Wendi Kurt Hoev. That is all of the individuals completed now. This is

:54:26. > :54:31.where the tension begins to build. Because the top four steams --

:54:31. > :54:37.teams are the ones that have five riders still in. The first is New

:54:37. > :54:41.Zealand, and they are very much in the mix. They are lying 4th, but

:54:41. > :54:48.less than a fence between the second, third and 4th teams. There

:54:48. > :54:57.are only two fences between... One fence, not totally two, between the

:54:57. > :55:02.leaders, Germany. Jonelle Richards, 62.7. She is the discard score for

:55:02. > :55:12.the New Zealand riding team at the moment. They would love to get off

:55:12. > :55:21.

:55:21. > :55:29.over his jumps. He is very clean and careful. He is a quality horse.

:55:29. > :55:39.He should be able to make the time. But in fact, we haven't seen anyone

:55:39. > :55:53.

:55:53. > :55:59.fit this morning at the final horse inspection. This horse and one

:55:59. > :56:09.other, currently not counting for the Kiwis. Three scores to count,

:56:09. > :56:16.

:56:16. > :56:23.well. I am pretty sure he is already over that time allowed. The

:56:23. > :56:27.time penalties are clocking up. Kiwis have got the Spanish

:56:27. > :56:32.international star, one of the best show jumpers in the world, he is a

:56:32. > :56:36.great trainer. These time penalties are expensive. Jonelle Richards,

:56:36. > :56:46.clear jumping but nine time faults. That is going to be influential

:56:46. > :56:47.

:56:47. > :56:55.when it comes to the really tight end of the medals. If 71.74 Jonelle

:56:56. > :56:59.Richards. Obviously, all of the top four teams will be hoping that they

:56:59. > :57:06.get good rounds from their last three top riders, that is when it

:57:06. > :57:15.really becomes very close and exciting. Now for Sweden, they are

:57:15. > :57:23.lying in third place at the moment. Their first rider, Linda Algotsson,

:57:23. > :57:31.not counting at the moment. She ended up on a score of 79.8. Sweden,

:57:31. > :57:34.with their top three scores, just 1.2 marks behind Great Britain.

:57:34. > :57:41.Britain in second at the moment. Very experience, Linda Algotsson of

:57:41. > :57:51.Sweden. Linda is very experienced in the show jumping phase. She does

:57:51. > :58:08.

:58:08. > :58:18.and keeping the turns tight. sister, equal first individually

:58:18. > :58:34.

:58:34. > :58:44.competing in the same competition. Good terms, it tight turns, keeping

:58:44. > :58:48.

:58:49. > :58:56.lender. For this is a well judged round, she is going to be inside

:58:56. > :59:02.the time, just. Yes! It is the first double clear that we have had.

:59:02. > :59:08.Sweden, normally very good in this phase. Linda Algotsson will

:59:08. > :59:16.certainly give them confidence with this lovely Matt. She is 15 years

:59:16. > :59:25.old -- this lovely mare. It was great to see. She wasn't hurrying

:59:25. > :59:30.the horse. The first one to go inside the time. A lovely round.

:59:30. > :59:39.Linda Algotsson comes out, and in comes William Fox-Pitt for Great

:59:39. > :59:45.Britain, the 5th rider at the moment, with Lionheart. Got those

:59:45. > :59:51.time faults yesterday which dropped him down to 21st individually. One

:59:51. > :59:55.of the two discard scores for Britain at the moment. That is an

:59:55. > :00:04.unusual position for William to find himself in, being a discard

:00:04. > :00:08.score. Lionheart is such a good jumper. I think everyone was

:00:08. > :00:15.surprised to see he got quite so tired at the end of the cross-

:00:15. > :00:25.country, but he has recovered today. He is fit and jumping in his usual

:00:25. > :00:29.

:00:29. > :00:35.immaculate this morning. They not only looked beautifully prepared

:00:35. > :00:40.for this final session, but also they were really on their toes. A

:00:40. > :00:46.great privilege to see. I don't think you are being biased, and

:00:46. > :00:53.even if you are, we will forgive you. They looked amazing on the

:00:53. > :00:56.cross country, they gave a great performance. If the rest jumped the

:00:56. > :01:06.way that Lion Heart Is jumping at the moment, we will be very happy

:01:06. > :01:29.

:01:29. > :01:35.all right. It is Clear, that is a great start. There is the royal

:01:35. > :01:45.party, waiting for Zara Phillips to come later. The cheers are ringing

:01:45. > :01:50.

:01:50. > :01:59.around this Greenwich Park. Just listen! A massive ground here. -- a

:01:59. > :02:06.massive crowd here. Look at the height this horse gets over his

:02:06. > :02:12.jumps. So big and clean and careful. They could be six inches higher,

:02:13. > :02:17.and it would be nothing to this horse. He was 21st after

:02:18. > :02:25.yesterday's cross country. The top 25 go through to the individual,

:02:25. > :02:32.but only the top three from each team, so William might miss out

:02:32. > :02:42.this afternoon. Now the turn of Peter Thompson. He was in the gold

:02:42. > :02:43.

:02:43. > :02:53.medal team in hung Kong, and remembered Germany are currently

:02:53. > :02:57.

:02:57. > :03:07.leading, their top three riders on 124.7. Quite a few time penalties

:03:07. > :03:44.

:03:44. > :03:48.one of the world's most famous show course designers. He has set a

:03:48. > :03:58.fascinating track which will undoubtedly keep us on the edge of

:03:58. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:14.Nicola Wilson was first to go for the British yesterday, and she came

:04:14. > :04:18.back and gave the information to the other riders, they can still do

:04:18. > :04:28.that in the show jumping. Obviously the riders can watch for themselves,

:04:28. > :04:38.but they can still come back with some useful information. Two down,

:04:38. > :04:53.

:04:53. > :04:59.so he moves on to 17 1.7. -- 71.7. Just a little bit careless in front

:04:59. > :05:05.at times, this horse. It could be the effect of the cross-country. A

:05:05. > :05:09.I'm sure many people will realise to jumper showjumping round after

:05:09. > :05:14.cross country is so much more difficult than jumping a normal

:05:14. > :05:19.show jumping round. The horses jump a little flatter so there has got

:05:19. > :05:29.to be work to try to rebalance the horse, get them in shape, jumping

:05:29. > :05:43.

:05:44. > :05:53.competition. They lost 1 rider overnight, so they have effectively

:05:53. > :06:03.gone a book place as a result of that. They were ninth overnight.

:06:03. > :06:05.

:06:05. > :06:14.Others have had horses dropping out as well, of course. They have a

:06:14. > :06:24.score of 107.5 after the cross- country. That jump was meant to be

:06:24. > :06:50.

:06:50. > :06:59.Column, with the Lion beside it. A triple bar in the shape of street

:06:59. > :07:09.lamps from the city of London and the very famous Stone henge columns.

:07:09. > :07:17.

:07:17. > :07:23.Just kicked out the last. 126.5. France have not had a good

:07:23. > :07:27.competition. They won the bronze medal in the Europeans last year

:07:27. > :07:37.and they looked a very promising team for London here, but it has

:07:37. > :07:59.

:07:59. > :08:06.Coleman for the United States of America. They have had a

:08:06. > :08:16.disappointment this morning because Boyd Marton sadly had to withdraw

:08:16. > :08:25.

:08:26. > :08:35.this morning. It means their score does change. They drop down one

:08:36. > :08:36.

:08:36. > :08:43.place, now in six before they start this phase. He comes in on a score

:08:43. > :08:50.of 82.7, having had one refusal on the cross country. Exceptional

:08:50. > :08:56.behind with his back legs, he really tries. He has got a pair of

:08:56. > :09:01.boots on, and sometimes they can be weighted, just to encourage the

:09:02. > :09:05.horse to put more of an effort in with his back legs. There are

:09:05. > :09:14.strict rules and regulations and they have got to be within a

:09:14. > :09:21.certain weight. The officials can have them removed, and they will

:09:21. > :09:31.waive them on a set of scales. Should any of the boots be too

:09:31. > :09:36.

:09:36. > :09:46.heavy, the rider will be disqualified. It is two time faults

:09:46. > :10:08.

:10:08. > :10:18.at the moment for the Americans. Caroline Powell and the wonderful

:10:18. > :10:27.

:10:27. > :10:35.and the more, my word, he galloped his heart out yesterday. Currently

:10:35. > :10:45.23rd overnight on a score of 53.8. Caroline, one of the discount

:10:45. > :10:49.

:10:50. > :10:56.scores for New Zealand, but they cross country yesterday, a couple

:10:56. > :11:04.of time faults, but he is jumping well today. Caroline did take a

:11:04. > :11:12.rather wide line between fences two and three, I don't think that was

:11:12. > :11:18.the plan, but she has a great feel for the time and the rhythm. She

:11:18. > :11:24.keeps the flow in her jumping rounds and the horse is always

:11:24. > :11:29.trying. Just going to say New Zealand would like this one to go

:11:29. > :11:39.clear because if they have got to rely on this score, they would like

:11:39. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :11:53.it to stay on 53.8, but it goes to 57.8. They've finished the Olympic

:11:53. > :12:02.Games on that score of 57.8. One of the most popular horses there is in

:12:02. > :12:12.the world sport. And certainly does not look his 19 years young.

:12:12. > :12:12.

:12:13. > :12:22.family were over the moon yesterday with his performance. Now Pettersen,

:12:23. > :12:25.

:12:25. > :12:34.and she disappointed in the dressage with the score of 60.4.

:12:34. > :12:44.She is on 61.2, currently a discount score and the top three

:12:44. > :12:49.

:12:49. > :12:54.riders for Sweden put them a few marks behind Great Britain. She do

:12:54. > :13:01.jump a great round yesterday, and this horse looked very impressive.

:13:01. > :13:11.He really tried at the gate, she got him pretty deep on the take-off

:13:11. > :13:21.

:13:21. > :13:26.Brits, it puts some pressure on because they have some very good

:13:27. > :13:36.jumping horses, and they do a lot of jumping at home, pure jumping

:13:37. > :13:40.

:13:40. > :13:50.competitions. She doesn't look as if she is being that quick. You can

:13:50. > :13:54.

:13:54. > :14:04.end up with former Crowe -- four faults very easily. She will be

:14:04. > :14:10.

:14:10. > :14:17.lucky, only getting two, I think, and the last one goes. Six penalty

:14:17. > :14:22.points. So far, so good. 67.2 really means the top three that

:14:22. > :14:32.count at the moment, which are a little way ahead, don't want to

:14:32. > :14:47.

:14:47. > :14:54.next one coming out. This is Britain's second Ryder, of Nicola

:14:54. > :14:58.Wilson, with Opposition Buzz. Another brilliant performance

:14:58. > :15:06.yesterday, I think he might have been the fastest of the day,

:15:06. > :15:14.certainly very close to it. The dressage score of 51.7, currently

:15:14. > :15:18.in 19th place. She is the fourth best scorer in the team, so her

:15:18. > :15:28.score currently doesn't count but Britain could do with the back up

:15:28. > :15:31.

:15:31. > :15:36.here. I hoped when he rattled the first fence it would sharpen him up

:15:36. > :15:40.for the second, but he kicked that one out. Since then, he has been

:15:41. > :15:50.getting much more in the air. He flicks his toes on them

:15:50. > :15:57.occasionally. Considering that Shia you heard when she came in, you

:15:57. > :16:07.could hear a pin drop in the arena now. She has been capable of

:16:07. > :16:08.

:16:08. > :16:15.jumping clear rounds. She took the gold in the Europeans and a gold in

:16:15. > :16:22.Kentucky, clearing the rounds when it mattered. He has so much skill

:16:22. > :16:32.when you see him jumping like that. Still absolutely full of running.

:16:32. > :16:47.

:16:47. > :16:54.Over the last, well inside her time, great vigour around the stadium.

:16:54. > :16:58.Nicola, enjoying every second of it, and quite right, too. First Olympic

:16:58. > :17:07.Games. This is the one that came down, just flicked it out with his

:17:07. > :17:12.front legs. She is delighted. Britain's position doesn't change

:17:12. > :17:16.at the moment, it just means the top three now really need to do the

:17:16. > :17:22.business. To give Britain any chance of a gold, or indeed, to

:17:22. > :17:32.stay in the medals, it is that close. Dirk Schrade, the second

:17:32. > :17:42.

:17:43. > :17:52.rider for the current leaders, experienced King Artus. Yesterday,

:17:52. > :17:58.completed on a score of 50.6 for the Germans. He was over the time,

:17:58. > :18:02.he had 10.8 to add to his very good dress such. He was right in the

:18:03. > :18:10.hunt individually when he started yesterday -- he's a very good

:18:10. > :18:16.dressage. At the moment, his score is quite a way behind the top three

:18:16. > :18:21.Germans. So he will rarely need to jump clear if they are going to

:18:21. > :18:26.count his court -- he will really need. The way he jumped the first

:18:26. > :18:36.two, he will have every chance. He doesn't look that quick, but he is

:18:36. > :18:46.

:18:46. > :18:56.of these terms if he needs to make the time -- bumped these turn as if

:18:56. > :19:02.

:19:02. > :19:07.time is unfair. But the fact that they have been made one penalty

:19:07. > :19:12.point for every second, it has made people quickened up the rhythm and

:19:12. > :19:17.I feel show jumping has got better as a result. I think you are right.

:19:17. > :19:22.With these riders it is no issue to ride at these speeds, it is not

:19:22. > :19:32.fast, it is just keeping the float. It stops them looking and picking

:19:32. > :19:41.

:19:41. > :19:46.he has done the double clear! It is the first one we have had so far.

:19:46. > :19:55.Christopher is happy with that, they stay on 50.6, it is a good

:19:55. > :19:59.back-up score for the Germans. Dirk Schrade are for Germany, certainly

:19:59. > :20:09.keeping the pressure on. Let's hear from Britain's first rider, William

:20:09. > :20:09.

:20:10. > :20:14.Fox-Pitt. A superb round. Today he looked fresh and well. He has come

:20:14. > :20:18.out bouncing today. You never know how they are feeling on the day. It

:20:19. > :20:23.was very out of character and it really disappointing. He was

:20:23. > :20:28.fantastic today. I am very much hoping that Team GB don't need that

:20:28. > :20:32.score but if it is there, fantastic. He jumped a good clear round and it

:20:32. > :20:37.is a fantastic note to finish on. Watching will be more nervous than

:20:37. > :20:43.riding because he is a good jumper. What information will you relate to

:20:43. > :20:46.the team? They have to ride their own individual courses, the

:20:46. > :20:51.atmosphere is fantastic, there is nothing like it. As I trotted out,

:20:51. > :20:56.I thought, we are never going to experience that again. I think the

:20:56. > :21:01.courses are blown away by it. Keeping the horses so'

:21:01. > :21:10.concentration. I don't think it is a very difficult track which is

:21:10. > :21:16.maybe a little disappointing, but you never know. The surface seems

:21:16. > :21:20.to be helping. He is riding very well, it is a fantastic surface for

:21:20. > :21:25.us -- it is riding very well. loved the way that you milked the

:21:25. > :21:29.crowd at the end. Why not? They are all here supporting us, and to say

:21:29. > :21:34.thank you, they have been amazing. Going around the cross country

:21:34. > :21:41.yesterday, I couldn't even hear my horse, myself, you just carry a

:21:41. > :21:48.long on a wave of clapping. That will keep on rolling. Let's hope it

:21:48. > :21:52.does -- hope it does. The clear round from William Fox-Pitt put him

:21:52. > :22:02.above Nicola Wilson. We are now watching the final stages of the

:22:02. > :22:24.

:22:24. > :22:34.also building towards their Games in four years in Rio. He finishers

:22:34. > :22:40.on 105.3. -- he finishes on. Brazil overnight were in 9th place, they

:22:40. > :22:50.have actually gone up one place, they have gone up of Belgium, who

:22:50. > :23:00.sadly lost two of the combinations overnight. Now we are back with

:23:00. > :23:04.

:23:04. > :23:12.France. It is Aurelien Kahn. He is riding Cadiz. He 95.5 is his score,

:23:12. > :23:20.he is in 45th place. As we mentioned earlier, they were

:23:20. > :23:27.originally in 7th place, but the withdrawal of two riders this

:23:27. > :23:37.morning means they have got a place. As a team they are on 221.6. --

:23:37. > :23:40.

:23:40. > :23:50.cross-country very well, he is giving the fences are lots of room,

:23:50. > :24:10.

:24:10. > :24:16.lines to all his fences. He hasn't looks flat but it seems to be

:24:16. > :24:25.jumping well, the horses are respecting it. So often the

:24:25. > :24:33.combination can make the horses flattened. He hit was an unexpected

:24:33. > :24:43.one down he -- it was an unexpected one down for Aurelien Kahn. He a

:24:43. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:52.gets three time penalties, he well done, one fence down but

:24:52. > :24:56.Opposition Buzz was superb. Had he was, I am disappointed with one

:24:56. > :25:00.fence down, I thought he was going to jump clear but he has done

:25:00. > :25:05.fantastically well and he has been superb throughout the three days of

:25:05. > :25:10.the competition. I am really thrilled and grateful for that.

:25:10. > :25:15.were thinking maybe he would be woken up by hitting the first

:25:15. > :25:21.obstacle. He needs to be keen, he has a unique way of jumping and

:25:21. > :25:26.needs to be at a high tempo. He shot over the first fence, he

:25:26. > :25:30.gained a bit too much ground to the second fence. But he jumped

:25:30. > :25:36.beautifully after that and delighted to just have only one

:25:36. > :25:40.down, I suppose, but you always want to go clear. How is the team

:25:40. > :25:44.feeling? All of the horses are in fantastic order and shape. We have

:25:44. > :25:48.fingers and toes crossed that the others can jump player and keep us

:25:48. > :25:52.in the position that we are in, or even better would be lovely. It is

:25:52. > :25:57.almost impossible to let the riders go without asking about the crowd

:25:57. > :26:00.and the experience of this Olympics. The whole atmosphere here at

:26:00. > :26:05.Greenwich has been unreal, it has been amazing from start to finish.

:26:05. > :26:09.The crowd are really getting behind you. I didn't notice so much today,

:26:09. > :26:13.I was very focused on the job in hand and was thrilled with how

:26:13. > :26:23.Opposition Buzz has coped with the crowds. A tremendous job that you

:26:23. > :26:23.

:26:23. > :26:30.have done, thank you. This is now for Ireland, Mark Kyle with Julio.

:26:30. > :26:36.Just had a score after cross country of 65 point nine. Another

:26:36. > :26:46.good performance by Mark Kayal of Ireland, the horses have not coming

:26:46. > :26:58.

:26:58. > :27:08.up this morning have moved up a members left. Michael Ryan and

:27:08. > :27:09.

:27:09. > :27:19.Camilla Speirs. Having had falls yesterday and being eliminated.

:27:19. > :27:22.

:27:22. > :27:32.had to quicken the course up -- the horse up to get to the oxer. A

:27:32. > :27:42.

:27:42. > :27:46.little rubber but four penalties Yesterday, we had 50,000 people in

:27:46. > :27:50.Greenwich Park, absolutely amazing. People could come and sit in the

:27:50. > :27:54.grandstand and watch on the big screen, and watch the fences in the

:27:54. > :27:57.arena, but most were out, providing a tremendous atmosphere for cross

:27:57. > :28:04.country. Many people said they had never seen or heard anything like

:28:04. > :28:07.it. The biggest crowd that has ever been to cross country. There are

:28:07. > :28:12.our royal guests once again, Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of

:28:12. > :28:22.Cambridge, and Peter Phillips on Prince William's right. And of

:28:22. > :28:22.

:28:22. > :28:28.course, Peter's sister, Zara, very much in the thick of this. Tiana

:28:28. > :28:34.Coudray for the United States of America. Ringwood Magister, the 11-

:28:34. > :28:44.year-old that finished in the 30th place overnight on 77.6. The

:28:44. > :28:54.Americans have dropped one place. With a withdrawal this morning,

:28:54. > :28:59.

:28:59. > :29:07.Otis Barbotiere. This is a score in America and he is normally a

:29:07. > :29:10.very clean in the show jumping. He had a rather naughty stop at fence

:29:10. > :29:15.three in the cross country yesterday and lost a little bit of

:29:15. > :29:20.confidence. I wonder if Tiana Coudray is riding a bit faster

:29:21. > :29:27.today, not to do the time but to keep him enthusiastic about his job.

:29:27. > :29:33.Yes, we sought tiara at Blenheim finish a very good second -- we saw

:29:33. > :29:37.Tiana Coudray at Blenheim. Yesterday, didn't start off with

:29:37. > :29:47.confidence, took a bit of time to get it back but finished in much

:29:47. > :29:53.better shape. He did, he finished very well. It looks to me as though

:29:54. > :30:03.the jumping is getting better. As the round goes on. The Americans

:30:04. > :30:38.

:30:38. > :30:44.were on 178.8, and America 178.5 so it is game on between Ireland and

:30:44. > :30:51.the USA. Now Australia, and they had such a disappointing day

:30:51. > :31:01.yesterday. They have actually gone up one place overnight,, head of

:31:01. > :31:02.

:31:02. > :31:11.the Americans. 173.4 is their team score, and it is only three to

:31:11. > :31:16.count. She had a refusal yesterday, and her escort is crucial to the

:31:16. > :31:21.Australians. They were thought to be one of the Hot shots for a medal

:31:21. > :31:31.but it didn't work out for them yesterday. They had Sam Griffiths

:31:31. > :31:37.

:31:37. > :31:47.eliminated for a fall, as was Lucinda's husband Clayton. A bit of

:31:47. > :31:57.arm flapping at that fence, but the horse is responding. He is jumping

:31:57. > :32:23.

:32:24. > :32:31.He can jump big and open, but his needs on the uprights as well. --

:32:31. > :32:39.neat on the uprights. A good clear round, that is the important thing.

:32:39. > :32:46.That will keep the pressure on. Australia will be delighted to be

:32:46. > :32:54.still at the top end of the nations when it is so competitive. Lucinda

:32:54. > :33:04.Fredericks, her second alembics, won team silver with her husband in

:33:04. > :33:05.

:33:05. > :33:09.hung Kong four years ago. -- in hung Kong. After Australia, we are

:33:10. > :33:15.going into the reverse order of merit in the top four and this is

:33:15. > :33:20.where it starts to get very exciting because we are into the

:33:20. > :33:26.riders that count as the three best riders. You you have only just

:33:26. > :33:32.joined us, let me remind you that silver, bronze and fourth place at

:33:32. > :33:41.the moment, less than a fence between all of them. Jonathan Paget

:33:41. > :33:51.from New Zealand had a brilliant round yesterday on the score of

:33:51. > :34:11.

:34:11. > :34:19.48.9. One down, he has got to keep the time, it is tempting to

:34:20. > :34:29.slightly over ride the fences. First jumped to prominence for the

:34:30. > :34:45.

:34:45. > :34:53.Kiwis when he rode at Kentucky, a and he rubbed across the top of it.

:34:53. > :35:00.It is just one fence down, four penalty points. Just a little bit

:35:01. > :35:05.more breathing space for Sweden and Great Britain, and Zara Phillips,

:35:05. > :35:12.just one more rider before she comes in for the all-important

:35:12. > :35:19.round for Great Britain. Kept his cool having had that one fence down,

:35:19. > :35:24.Ian. Yes, he did. I don't think he would have expected to have one

:35:24. > :35:30.down. He is usually a very good jumper and his horse is very

:35:30. > :35:40.experienced and very good in the jumping phase. This is a pressure

:35:40. > :35:43.

:35:43. > :35:51.cooker situation. Nicholas Lindberg, currently lying in third place. He

:35:51. > :35:57.nearly threw it all away at the last fence yesterday. If he is

:35:57. > :36:07.going to keep Sweden in the bronze- medal position, he must jump a

:36:07. > :36:24.

:36:24. > :36:34.can help to sharpen up the horses for the rest of the round. -- a

:36:34. > :37:07.

:37:07. > :37:14.her fourth horse, they have got to Phillips. A time fault. A total of

:37:14. > :37:23.nine, and that is definitely a setback for Sweden. 57, and at the

:37:23. > :37:28.moment that puts New Zealand ahead of Sweden, with two more riders to

:37:29. > :37:38.come for them. Great Britain have three more riders, and here is the

:37:39. > :37:42.

:37:42. > :37:47.first of them. She will know what that is all about. She rode in

:37:47. > :37:57.Montreal for Great Britain, and I bet she has butterflies as any

:37:57. > :37:58.

:37:58. > :38:08.mother would have. On this lovely horse, High Kingdom. 46.1, it is a

:38:08. > :38:08.

:38:08. > :39:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:39:41. > :39:50.a time fault. Just staying ahead of the New Zealanders, and of course

:39:50. > :39:54.Sweden. There is the discussion, but it is game on. Of course it

:39:54. > :40:04.gives the leaders Germany a little more breathing space. She kept her

:40:04. > :40:05.

:40:05. > :40:10.cool because that one ferns was very early, Ian. She was undecided

:40:10. > :40:20.on whether to go between the six or the seven, and really no decision

:40:20. > :40:20.

:40:20. > :40:28.was made. 53.1. She was in 10th place individually. She drops down

:40:28. > :40:36.the individuals, and so now it is Germany. The 25 year-old was a show

:40:36. > :40:42.jumper before she turned her attentions to eventing. Sandra

:40:42. > :40:52.Auffarth, certainly one of the young riders that people are

:40:52. > :40:54.

:40:54. > :41:00.talking about in very good terms for the future. Yesterday she had

:41:00. > :41:05.four time penalties, lying in eighth place individually. For

:41:05. > :41:15.Germany, this is a round which will count. Great Britain have given

:41:15. > :41:19.

:41:19. > :41:29.them a little bit of breathing done a lot of show jumping in the

:41:29. > :41:31.

:41:31. > :41:41.past. Went very high, didn't quite go forward over that. Germany, the

:41:41. > :41:50.

:41:51. > :41:58.reigning Olympic champions. They to make sure she was ahead of the

:41:58. > :42:08.time. They have got to achieve the speed of 375 metres per minute to

:42:08. > :42:18.

:42:18. > :42:24.cover this ground in the time I'll, 83 seconds. -- in the time allowed.

:42:24. > :42:34.Germany's advantage has increased, and they will have their fingers on

:42:34. > :42:41.

:42:41. > :42:46.the gold medal now. What a good round, another inside the time.

:42:46. > :42:56.that was a very classy round, it was very easy for the horse and

:42:56. > :43:00.

:43:00. > :43:10.Sandra. Never a moment of panic or hurrying. Celebrations to come.

:43:10. > :43:15.

:43:15. > :43:22.Cool as a cucumber. The big crowd What a gripping time at Greenwich

:43:22. > :43:29.Park. Great Britain's team work in silver medal position going into

:43:29. > :43:35.this, but we have seen three British riders going out and only

:43:35. > :43:40.one of them had a clear round in the jumping. Everyone in turn will

:43:40. > :43:46.go out and it is a question of the scores at the end of that. A good

:43:46. > :43:52.moment for you to join me in the studio, Matt Baker. A sharp intake

:43:52. > :43:57.of breath every time Zara Phillips went over one of the jumps. I do a

:43:57. > :44:05.little bit of showjumping myself, and the key is to get the stride

:44:06. > :44:11.patterns. A man of hidden talents. A little bit of show jumping, and

:44:11. > :44:16.gymnastics on the your belt. It has been exciting at the gymnastics.

:44:16. > :44:20.Last night I could not sleep. At 3 o'clock this morning, I was looking

:44:20. > :44:27.at the clock thinking we have such a busy day today because the women
