:00:59. > :01:08.The crowd on both sides now have just going mad. They can't smile as

:01:08. > :01:17.they come up to the line. They are allowing themselves to think, we

:01:17. > :01:22.are Olympic champions! Great Britain into the record books.

:01:22. > :01:28.Great Britain are the Olympic champions and it could not go to

:01:28. > :01:33.more worthy winners. Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, we stand up

:01:33. > :01:43.and so Luke shook for the British rowing team and for the country.

:01:43. > :01:50.The dead - salute you. Wasn't that just remarkable?

:01:50. > :01:57.We may have had to wait until day 5 but that was well worth the wait.

:01:57. > :02:04.Not just a gold medal but a victory of breathtaking dominance. And now

:02:04. > :02:13.we're off the mark let us hope that a gold medals are like London buses.

:02:13. > :02:19.He is the master of the time trial. The master of the Tour de France.

:02:19. > :02:23.Bradley Wiggins rides into the record books!

:02:23. > :02:33.We have waited a long time for this one up and the sad to note it could

:02:33. > :02:36.

:02:37. > :02:40.easily be two. I hope you have got you're Golden sideburns ready.

:02:40. > :02:48.Back to the road now and the women's time-trial has just

:02:48. > :02:55.finished. The great hope for Great Britain was Emma Pooley. She is so

:02:55. > :03:04.talented on the road and actually has a P.H. D in soil Engineering!

:03:04. > :03:14.She was silver medallist in 2008 in Beijing. She really is a crime.

:03:14. > :03:18.

:03:18. > :03:26.This does not play to her strength. -- a climber. Sadly she was just in

:03:26. > :03:35.second place in this stage. It has been a dramatic road race. We can't

:03:35. > :03:39.explain what else will be going on there a little later on. -- we can.

:03:39. > :03:44.Lizzie Armitstead was also competing for Great Britain and

:03:44. > :03:51.would have been desperate to follow up her silver medal from the road

:03:51. > :03:55.race. Kirsten Armstrong was the real star as far as the United

:03:55. > :04:02.States was concerned. She put in an absolutely stunning performance.

:04:02. > :04:10.That was how things got going as far as the women were concerned.

:04:10. > :04:16.Let us hear from bezique arms debt. -- from Lizzie Armitstead.

:04:16. > :04:25.This was not your preferred event. How was it for you as much it was

:04:25. > :04:30.really awful. The time trial rests on my team, their mentality and the

:04:30. > :04:36.way they train, you have to put yourself through some dark places

:04:36. > :04:43.in your mind to get through that. I saw that it was 10 kilometres to go

:04:43. > :04:47.and I could not believe it. I have never felt such pain. It is very

:04:47. > :04:51.competitive at the moment, very close. It does not look as though

:04:51. > :04:58.Emma Pooley has been able to crack this one. It was not really suited

:04:58. > :05:01.for her. She was fantastic in the road race

:05:01. > :05:08.and played a big difference such it would have been good to see her on

:05:08. > :05:11.the podium. But the level at the moment is just incredible. To be

:05:11. > :05:17.successful on a course not suited to you was always going to be a

:05:17. > :05:22.Challenge. Well congratulations and a sterling

:05:22. > :05:28.effort. She was never really expected to excel in that time

:05:28. > :05:34.trial. But could Emma Pooley hang on in their? This is what happened

:05:35. > :05:44.on in their? This is what happened in the concluding part of the race.

:05:45. > :05:53.

:05:53. > :06:03.31 seconds off the pace of the Russian. That is an incredible ride.

:06:03. > :06:04.

:06:04. > :06:14.She is going to be really happy with that.

:06:14. > :06:15.

:06:16. > :06:25.We wait now Villumsen. She was silver medallist in Copenhagen 12

:06:25. > :06:29.months ago. She drives on for the line. The Russian it is still going

:06:29. > :06:39.to beat in the gold medal position. It is going to be close but I

:06:39. > :06:41.

:06:41. > :06:51.reckon if she is going to go silver at this stage. Second for Villumsen.

:06:51. > :06:52.

:06:52. > :06:58.What a finish we are in for it here. She is going to be very nervous now.

:06:58. > :07:08.It is a would say the best performance of her career. Is she

:07:08. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:14.going to get a medal? Look at this very narrow section of the course.

:07:14. > :07:24.The crowds massive as they wait for the arrival of the two serious

:07:24. > :07:24.

:07:24. > :07:34.medal contenders still out on the course. Judith's aunt, a top podium

:07:34. > :07:38.

:07:38. > :07:41.finisher - Arndt. She is so versatile.

:07:41. > :07:51.Armstrong just has a handful of minutes to get the last bit of

:07:51. > :07:55.

:07:55. > :08:05.effort out. I think that is Marianne Vos. What

:08:05. > :08:08.

:08:08. > :08:15.an incentive that would be to try to pull out pure speed. Armstrong

:08:15. > :08:25.is going to catch the world champion. I'm waiting to see that.

:08:25. > :08:31.

:08:31. > :08:41.I think it was Marianne Vos. Of course she was caught by Arndt.

:08:41. > :08:42.

:08:42. > :08:47.So the Russian leading, New Zealand in second place. And this is

:08:47. > :08:52.Armstrong sweeping past Marianne Vos. Marianne Vos has been caught

:08:52. > :08:57.with three minutes via Armstrong were just squeezes through. She is

:08:57. > :09:07.just going to take the shortest line around this course. That was a

:09:07. > :09:13.

:09:13. > :09:23.great incentive for her in the closing stages. And it is a quick

:09:23. > :09:28.

:09:28. > :09:38.time for Judith Arndt. Here it comes. She goes into the lead. She

:09:38. > :09:39.

:09:39. > :09:48.has taken at seven seconds off the time. And now the defending

:09:48. > :09:55.champion, Kristen Armstrong. can see the experience now. She has

:09:55. > :10:05.time to pace beautifully over the distance.

:10:05. > :10:07.

:10:07. > :10:15.And we confirm the medal positions. Villumsen in bronze and must be

:10:15. > :10:21.biting her nails now. She is a fighter and desperately

:10:21. > :10:27.wants this. She looked solid in the road race at the weekend. And it is

:10:27. > :10:33.very good. It looks as if Christen Armstrong is going to maintain her

:10:33. > :10:42.title. And retain the crown as the Olympic champion and win her second

:10:42. > :10:47.Olympic gold medal. Coming up to the line now. Armstrong at of the

:10:47. > :10:57.United States wins the Gold Medal digging 15 seconds off the time of

:10:57. > :11:10.

:11:10. > :11:16.the German Judith Arndt. Villumsen pushed down to fourth.

:11:16. > :11:22.What a ride. Celebrations beginning to unfold.

:11:22. > :11:26.Your face says it all, a bitter disappointment for you there.

:11:26. > :11:33.We always knew the course was never going to be necessarily suited to

:11:33. > :11:41.you. You prefer something with more climbing in it. How hard was it?

:11:41. > :11:47.You always have to push hard. I did that. I do not think I could have

:11:47. > :11:52.gone any faster. In the time-trial you cannot affect

:11:52. > :11:57.anyone else. You just write your best. I'm disappointed. But if

:11:57. > :12:02.someone else is better, good on them and they deserved to win.

:12:02. > :12:08.Lizzie Armitstead was St UWE Road so well for her in a road race. It

:12:08. > :12:12.is difficult to back it up when you put in that kind of effort.

:12:12. > :12:19.I was pleased to be able to help Lizzie Armitstead get the medal and

:12:19. > :12:24.she fully deserves silver. The time-trial on Box Hill would

:12:24. > :12:29.have been better for me. But the support out there is fantastic. I

:12:29. > :12:32.support out there is fantastic. I have never heard so much noise!

:12:32. > :12:39.really feel for her there. She would have been desperate to match

:12:39. > :12:45.or to better that silver from Beijing. But in the end she

:12:45. > :12:49.finished 6th which she was clearly disappointed about. Christopher

:12:49. > :12:57.Armstrong from the United States managed to pull it out when it

:12:57. > :13:03.mattered. Emma Pooley disappointed there.

:13:04. > :13:09.Nicole Cooke is with me. You'll have grabbed a few minutes. A

:13:09. > :13:14.fantastic win by Armstrong. It is very hard for Emma Pooley, she gave

:13:14. > :13:24.it her absolute everything. It is just one of the worst moments in

:13:24. > :13:28.

:13:28. > :13:32.sport when that happens. But it was Kristin Armstrong. She started fast,

:13:33. > :13:37.steady through the second section and finished strongly. It was an

:13:37. > :13:42.incredible ride and a great continuation of her career. She is

:13:42. > :13:52.now a double Olympic champion. And a thrilling finale for the podium

:13:52. > :13:52.

:13:52. > :13:59.as well. Looking forward to the men's race,

:13:59. > :14:08.and Bradley Wiggins goes in it as the favourite. He is the favourite.

:14:08. > :14:13.He is probably thinking he just cannot wait to get started. He

:14:13. > :14:17.really has a serious chance of getting a gold medal in the time-

:14:18. > :14:24.trial. And Chris Froome may even have snatched an adult as well. It

:14:24. > :14:27.will be interesting to see how they both get on. It is important to

:14:27. > :14:34.mention it Chris Froome because he did come second in the Tour de

:14:34. > :14:39.France. Looking up the other rivals, of Fabien Cancellara from

:14:39. > :14:44.Switzerland, he broke his collarbone earlier in the year. He

:14:44. > :14:53.went down in the road race and we thought he may have damaged his

:14:53. > :14:58.collarbone again. How strong is he looking? Physically he is probably,

:14:58. > :15:02.he's got the legs but it just depends how he can hold it together

:15:02. > :15:07.and get through the pain. I am sure he will give it absolutely

:15:07. > :15:11.everything. You would not want to count him out but it is not an

:15:11. > :15:16.ideal man up into one of the biggest races. Tony Martin Laird

:15:16. > :15:22.from Germany, he helped the team a little in the road race but he

:15:22. > :15:27.broke his wrist earlier and says he is still in pain. Will he provide a

:15:27. > :15:32.particular Challenge? He is the reigning world champion. And again

:15:32. > :15:37.he is the rider who has not had an amazing season this year. So a

:15:37. > :15:47.little bit of an outsider. But he is a champion and perhaps cannot

:15:47. > :15:47.

:15:47. > :15:52.raise his game on the day. Well we Now hopes are high for British

:15:52. > :15:58.boxing at the games not least because Great Britain can call on

:15:58. > :16:02.the power and presence of Antony Joshua. It is a traditionally sport

:16:02. > :16:12.for Ireland too. We will see one of their rising stars but first here

:16:12. > :16:12.

:16:12. > :16:15.is what it is all about. Boxing. Only amateur boxers and boxers

:16:15. > :16:20.competing in the world series can compete at the Olympic Games. And

:16:20. > :16:27.for the first time in Olympic history, London 2012, we will see

:16:27. > :16:32.female boxers competing. Olympic boxers wear red or blue, all wear a

:16:32. > :16:37.head-guard and vest and use ten ounce gloves. Men's bouts are

:16:37. > :16:42.fought over three, 3 minute rounds while the women's will be over four

:16:42. > :16:46.two minute rounds. One referee will control the bout inside the ring

:16:46. > :16:54.and five judge also score outside the ring. Using an electronic

:16:54. > :16:57.scoring system. To score a point the knuckle area of a glove has to

:16:57. > :17:04.hit the for get area. The person with the most points at the end of

:17:04. > :17:09.the bout wins. If a boxer is knocked down and fails to get up

:17:09. > :17:12.within a ten second count, they automatically loose. If a coach

:17:12. > :17:21.feels their boxer should not continue, they will concede defeat

:17:21. > :17:28.by throwing in the towel at any point except during a count. If you

:17:28. > :17:33.would like to get involved in Olympic sports go to the website.

:17:33. > :17:35.Here with go. Time for live boxing, always one of the most popular

:17:35. > :17:39.sport of the popular questions I have had on Twitter for the past

:17:39. > :17:43.couple of weeks is why are the scores no longer displayed on

:17:43. > :17:47.screen? I do understand it makes it hard to follow the fight, it is

:17:47. > :17:53.just to keep the judging fair and impartial which is something that

:17:53. > :17:59.we all want to see. So let us head to the ExCel centre, we are live,

:17:59. > :18:09.if you look, we are about to see one of the Irish superstars,

:18:09. > :18:14.

:18:14. > :18:22.bantamweight fighter John Joe a preliminary contest. And for both

:18:22. > :18:32.of these men it is the second Olympic Games. Youngest Irish boxer

:18:32. > :18:37.

:18:37. > :18:47.in Beijing four years ago. He qualified for London through the

:18:47. > :18:56.

:18:56. > :19:02.contest. In the boxing tournament in the Olympic Games. And this is

:19:02. > :19:07.going to be a tough one for Ireland. The 23-year-old in his second

:19:07. > :19:13.Olympic Games and he has had two world bronze medals in 2009 and the

:19:13. > :19:17.one last year, from Baku earned him the right to be here. His opponent

:19:17. > :19:22.qualified through the world series of boxing division, which is a

:19:22. > :19:32.hybrid division, a kind of hybrid tournament set up by the amateur

:19:32. > :19:44.

:19:44. > :19:50.international boxing association, nine male boxer, two women, Ireland

:19:50. > :19:55.with five male boxers and the four time woman's champion Katie Taylor.

:19:55. > :20:05.Even in, hands low, economical style. Came comfortableibly against

:20:05. > :20:12.the Danish boxer in his opening contest, 21-6 and his opponent got

:20:12. > :20:16.rid of his man 15-7. Even in can't afford to fall short. This Kazakh,

:20:16. > :20:24.he is a counter puncher, southpaw, a nightmare opponent to be honest,

:20:24. > :20:28.if you fall short with your attack here, he comes back his counter. He

:20:28. > :20:32.is skilful this Kazakh boxer. He will feint. He wants you to lead

:20:33. > :20:35.wauf the jab and he will counter you with the right hook. It is

:20:35. > :20:41.important that even in is accurate, fast with the feet, gets in with

:20:41. > :20:46.the shots like that one and can't afford to fall short here. In his

:20:46. > :20:51.opening contest even in, the Irishman dominated the centre of

:20:51. > :20:57.the ring. He now is being forced to move round and his opponent is

:20:57. > :21:02.taking centre ring. A different tactic from even in. Fast feet from

:21:02. > :21:07.the Kazakh. Lost in his opening contest four years to a Cuban,

:21:07. > :21:16.whereas even in beat an Algerian boxer and went on to be defeated

:21:16. > :21:21.only by 9-2. The closest contest. It's the right tactic what even in

:21:21. > :21:25.is doing. He is not lunging in and being careless. That was not a bad

:21:25. > :21:33.counter. What he has to do more of is edge closer and feint with his

:21:33. > :21:40.jab, he has to draw the lead of the Kazakh and throw down the pipe. He

:21:40. > :21:46.must draw the opponent on to the shot. Like most southpaws the boxer

:21:46. > :21:54.from Caz -- Kazakhstan is waiting for him to come to him. He is

:21:54. > :22:01.hoping to get that left counter across. Even in has sin ter ring.

:22:01. > :22:06.Even in. Not much in this Not at all. The Kazakh nearly lost his

:22:06. > :22:11.balance. Even in has moved away and is that going to make a difference

:22:11. > :22:16.he has won it by 5-2, the Irishman. Even he will be delighted with that

:22:16. > :22:24.in the corner with Billy wash, they will be chuffed about that. What a

:22:24. > :22:29.good opening round. -- Billy Walsh: That is a great score for Nevin.

:22:29. > :22:33.Now tactics will change from the Kazakh, he may come on his front

:22:33. > :22:38.foot more. That may suit Nevin. He has to stay nice and tight. But to

:22:38. > :22:48.be three points up, you don't see that very often in this tournament

:22:48. > :23:08.

:23:08. > :23:13.so far, so they will be really advantage at the start of this

:23:13. > :23:21.second round, in favour of the man in red, the Irishman John Joe Nevin.

:23:21. > :23:24.Seeded number five, world rated number four in the most recent

:23:24. > :23:27.rankings. Certainly because of that, would have been favourite for this

:23:27. > :23:31.contest, but the man he is up against has been round the block a

:23:31. > :23:36.time or two and he knows he's will have to put the foot on the gas and

:23:36. > :23:41.force the pace. That means will come forward and Nevin, he is a

:23:41. > :23:47.good counter puncture, that might suit him. Great right hand by the

:23:47. > :23:52.Irishman. It will suit him more, what he has to do is keep, just

:23:52. > :23:56.that is good. I was going to say kept the left hooks go, he has to

:23:56. > :24:00.keep his nerve. It will be a test of character. Hold his nerve, bring

:24:00. > :24:08.him on to the shots. The Kazakh is going to come forward, which he is

:24:08. > :24:11.doing. He is confident. He should walk on to the punches. They have

:24:11. > :24:15.anticipated and Nevin is moving away and getting that right hand

:24:15. > :24:21.across into the middle. This is good work by the Irishman, lovely

:24:21. > :24:26.change of direction. He is boxing especially Nevin at the moment.

:24:26. > :24:31.key to his timing, he is starting to counter attack and as his

:24:31. > :24:35.opponent is coming forward Nevin is starting to beat him to the punch.

:24:35. > :24:38.A good tactic. The, I don't agree with that, Nevin is boxing on the

:24:38. > :24:43.back foot and the referee says you have to come forward, I don't agree.

:24:43. > :24:46.I think he is boxing the perfect fight, the Irishman. If you go

:24:46. > :24:51.beyond a certain period of time without trying to throw a punch the

:24:51. > :24:56.referee can have a word with you, for passivety. I didn't think he

:24:56. > :24:59.was going to be passive. That wasn't passive. That was on the

:24:59. > :25:04.squashed nose of the Kazakh. Coming up to the end of two minute, the

:25:04. > :25:09.second round, if anything, I reconNevin has extended this lead.

:25:09. > :25:13.He has boxed cleverly, single qal - - quality shots the Jungs can't

:25:13. > :25:18.miss. Five with a key pad with red and blue button, if they press

:25:18. > :25:23.three within a minute, or a second I should say, sometimes we think it

:25:23. > :25:33.looks like a minute! Press the button and the score is reported.

:25:33. > :25:35.

:25:35. > :25:39.No running score up the top left hand corner any more. At the moment,

:25:39. > :25:44.the hand that will be raised and the name that will be read out is

:25:44. > :25:49.that of John Joe Nevin from Ireland. He has outworked his opponent in

:25:49. > :25:53.this second round. He has turned the tables. Normally this Kazakh

:25:53. > :25:58.boxer aims to frustrate the opponents what is happening is

:25:59. > :26:03.Nevin is doing that, he is bringing him on to shots. The Kazakh cannot

:26:03. > :26:08.close the gap down and he is walking on to punches. Right hand

:26:08. > :26:13.is crucial and the timing with that punch almost also. But the Kazakh

:26:13. > :26:23.has to get Klose to Nevin but the Irishman is not letting him do that.

:26:23. > :26:34.

:26:34. > :26:38.referee. 10-5 to Ireland with three minutes to go. 5-2, 5-3. We thought

:26:39. > :26:43.the second round was more in favour than Nevin's favour but he is five

:26:43. > :26:50.points up and surely he is not going to lose this one. Good shot

:26:50. > :26:54.by the Kazakh but a great shot to the body be the Irishman. He is box

:26:54. > :27:00.especially, brings him on the a short right upper cut. Beat on to

:27:00. > :27:04.the punch. That was a typical counter attack. Nevin quickened the

:27:04. > :27:09.feet up and beat him to the punch. There is that right hand again

:27:09. > :27:19.there. Similar tactic, his timing is perfect up to now, Nevin.

:27:19. > :27:21.

:27:22. > :27:31.Difficult to pull that back for the attention to the coaches in the

:27:32. > :27:33.

:27:33. > :27:39.corner. Four years ago in Beijing, the man in red representing Ireland

:27:39. > :27:45.here in London 2012. He is under three minutes away from going one

:27:45. > :27:50.better. Got here because the, got to the semifinals of the World

:27:50. > :27:56.Championships last year, and went out very very narrowly to England's

:27:56. > :28:02.Luke Campbell. It was 12-12. Very close round and as it turned out

:28:02. > :28:05.Campbell through a greater volume of punches. --. Threw. Nevin has to

:28:05. > :28:09.be content with a second world bronze. Under pressure but he is a

:28:09. > :28:16.good man at finding distance when he has to find that reverse gear.

:28:16. > :28:20.He has turned into the outout-and- out counter puncher. He is bringing

:28:20. > :28:23.his opponent on to the shots. It is important he stays concentrated and

:28:23. > :28:29.his Rigg ring position is so important. He doesn't need to be on

:28:29. > :28:34.the rope, if he is, that will allow the Kazakh to land come pi basing

:28:34. > :28:44.mun -- punches. Got stay centre, keep calm, keep a cool head and

:28:44. > :28:45.

:28:45. > :28:48.keep bringing him on the that right hand. Good boxing. The stkpwhrvings

:28:48. > :28:52.Again he gets on with the right hand. The referee has been harsh on

:28:52. > :28:55.Nevin, he is getting out of the way and the referee has been

:28:55. > :29:01.interpreting that as a lack of willingness to box, but that is not

:29:01. > :29:04.the case, he has been clever. the one who is winning the contest,

:29:04. > :29:10.so I haven't agreed with the referee when he has stopped him

:29:10. > :29:13.from moving back. I know you can't run away, but you certainly, he

:29:13. > :29:18.certainly has been landing the better shot. Look at that. He is

:29:18. > :29:22.moving away and then sneaks the shot there. The Kazakh was not

:29:22. > :29:31.aware of that. It is very good boxing on the back foot from this

:29:31. > :29:39.Irishman. Just about a minute remaining, can the Kazakh, he has

:29:39. > :29:43.been outworked and outpunched and outthought by the Irishman, the man.

:29:43. > :29:49.They will be devastated the Kazakhs because they really rate this fella.

:29:49. > :29:56.I have seen him train and spar many times, this Kazakh, and he is very

:29:56. > :30:01.good indeed. But, Ireland's Nevin here has his number. Less than a

:30:01. > :30:05.minute. Oh. Lovely switch of direction by nevirpbgs just threw

:30:05. > :30:10.out that right hand and flicked in a left. He has been frustrating

:30:10. > :30:15.since about the start of the second round, he has been frustrating the

:30:15. > :30:25.Kazakh all the way through. I think he was hurt with a shot there.

:30:25. > :30:39.

:30:39. > :30:49.There was no need to stand as long combinations off. Nevin got in with

:30:49. > :30:58.

:30:58. > :31:08.a good right hand. Abutalipov should have been able to step back

:31:08. > :31:16.

:31:16. > :31:23.but he hasn't done it. Just a few seconds to go. Nevin hanging on.

:31:23. > :31:31.The referee said no to that one. An odd decision.

:31:31. > :31:40.And look at that, he knows he has won it. That is a tremendous

:31:40. > :31:50.performance from Nevin. Abutalipov would have been favourite to win

:31:50. > :31:52.

:31:52. > :32:01.this. He brought him on to the shops. He was caught at time of 2

:32:01. > :32:10.in that last round. But he has box like a veteran. He frustrated his

:32:10. > :32:20.opponent, a tremendous display. The movement from the waist and was

:32:20. > :32:26.

:32:26. > :32:36.superb. There is that a sharp jab. Well here we go. The winner by a

:32:36. > :32:37.

:32:37. > :32:47.score of 15 points to 10 is the red corner, representing Ireland.

:32:47. > :32:50.

:32:50. > :32:57.John Joe Nevin There he has won it comfortably against a Bury good

:32:57. > :33:03.comfortably against a Bury good opponent. -- very good.

:33:03. > :33:08.What a fantastic performance. He only made it through to this stage

:33:08. > :33:15.in Beijing before being knocked out. He is getting closer to a medal for

:33:15. > :33:23.it Ireland. In just about half-an- hour we have the men's time trial.

:33:23. > :33:29.But before that time for some canoe slalom. Richard Hounslow could have

:33:29. > :33:33.been working at these Games as a security guard as part of the

:33:33. > :33:40.British military. He had applied to join the armed forces but the last

:33:40. > :33:50.change of mind saw him become a change of mind saw him become a

:33:50. > :34:02.

:34:03. > :34:12.He and David Florence will be riding in a the C2 final later in

:34:13. > :34:23.

:34:23. > :34:31.the week. He really has been coming on strong. His best run came on the

:34:31. > :34:41.second run in the heats. That was good enough for 11th place. Now he

:34:41. > :34:41.

:34:41. > :34:51.is aiming to make the final for the first time. A little bit wide in

:34:51. > :34:54.

:34:54. > :35:00.the spin gate. He pushes the boat back out towards Gate 14. Richard

:35:00. > :35:06.Hounslow being roared on by this massive crowd. He knows the course

:35:06. > :35:16.quite well. He has not experienced this actual course before but he

:35:16. > :35:16.

:35:16. > :35:24.knows the way the water reactor. That was a mile -- a remarkable run

:35:24. > :35:33.it earlier. He has to maintain his concentration. He has to pick up

:35:33. > :35:43.the speed on this last section and give nothing away.

:35:43. > :35:44.

:35:44. > :35:54.Push hard all the way to the finish. The crowd is enough to push him all

:35:54. > :35:59.

:35:59. > :36:09.the way to the down in fourth place. It looks as if he was questioning

:36:09. > :36:13.

:36:13. > :36:17.something there. I am not quite sure I saw the two second penalty

:36:17. > :36:24.sure I saw the two second penalty either.

:36:24. > :36:28.Such a difficult looking sport. You could see the confusion on his face.

:36:28. > :36:34.Not agreeing with what the judges saw. But that left him sitting in

:36:34. > :36:39.10th position with two to go. Clinging on to a chance to make it

:36:39. > :36:44.Clinging on to a chance to make it into the final.

:36:44. > :36:54.There will be his own determination in the Spanish team to try to make

:36:54. > :36:58.

:36:58. > :37:08.amends and bring a muddle home. Hernanz's job now to make it

:37:08. > :37:14.

:37:14. > :37:19.through to the final. At the moment he is going well. No penalties so

:37:19. > :37:28.far for at the Spaniard. He is looking lively but just dropped a

:37:28. > :37:38.little bit on gate number nine. He wants to jump over at the little

:37:38. > :37:48.

:37:48. > :37:57.stopper on the way. He is back out into the flow. Just got down to 13.

:37:57. > :38:06.He is looking stronger and technically very good at the moment.

:38:06. > :38:16.This is a very good performance from the Spaniard.

:38:16. > :38:18.

:38:18. > :38:23.He just rides across and does not get stuck in the stopper. This is

:38:23. > :38:28.bad news for British supporters because it will mean the

:38:28. > :38:34.elimination of Richard Hounslow. He flies through the finish but lost

:38:34. > :38:40.some time in the last couple of gates.

:38:40. > :38:50.I wonder if he was just using it off a little so he can't really

:38:50. > :39:07.

:39:07. > :39:14.attack it in the final. -- he can. It was a well executed run. Kept

:39:14. > :39:21.himself as tight to the poles as he could. Just making sure it kept

:39:21. > :39:31.running, not taking too big a hit. We should Hounslow will feel

:39:31. > :39:54.

:39:54. > :40:01.disappointment I am sure. -- the third round. What will the

:40:01. > :40:07.different Configuration mean this time to the German?

:40:07. > :40:17.So far, so good. He is putting in at a strong

:40:17. > :40:26.

:40:26. > :40:36.performance. A little bit of lost time there are around 89.

:40:36. > :40:44.

:40:44. > :40:54.-- gate nine. Aigner's concentration is A1 at the moment.

:40:54. > :40:58.

:40:58. > :41:05.He is totally alert. This is a similar situation to the he the

:41:05. > :41:14.other day. A modest start but blasting the rest of the course.

:41:14. > :41:24.Does he want to finish as number one? This is a superb performance

:41:24. > :41:29.

:41:29. > :41:39.from the German. He will be outside the time set by Kauzer. You have to

:41:39. > :41:46.

:41:46. > :41:55.question his commitment in the last question his commitment in the last

:41:55. > :42:01.four or five gates. Richard, you did not make it. Just

:42:01. > :42:06.sum up how you're feeling? Very disappointed. I did not even

:42:06. > :42:14.realise I had hit the gate but even without that her loyalty I would

:42:14. > :42:18.not have got through. It feels like an opportunity missed. I have not

:42:18. > :42:28.put down at the performance that I know I can. Looking back at the

:42:28. > :42:29.

:42:29. > :42:34.results, it was not difficult to make the finals. I am just gutted.

:42:34. > :42:39.Genuinely heartbreaking to have to speak to you in the circumstances.

:42:39. > :42:43.It was the same width David Florence yesterday. Any sense of

:42:43. > :42:49.the pressure of the home crowd, it has been a pressure cooker and

:42:49. > :42:54.perhaps too much? It is difficult to say. It is hard to put your

:42:54. > :43:01.finger on it. The nature of the sport is unpredictable. The top

:43:02. > :43:06.guys put it in time and time again. When you are on the start blocks

:43:06. > :43:16.and you hear the crowd cheering it is pretty intense. But I was

:43:16. > :43:23.

:43:24. > :43:30.enjoying it. Making the finals, it was there for me but anything can

:43:30. > :43:37.happen at once you reach the finals. You have the chance to redeem

:43:37. > :43:41.yourself tomorrow. Definitely. You do not want to be relying on

:43:42. > :43:46.another category. This whole doubling up thing that day that and

:43:46. > :43:52.I do, it is great that if you do not do well in once you can do well

:43:52. > :44:01.in the other but still it is hard to come away from the competition

:44:01. > :44:05.feeling fully satisfied. It is something that very few people have

:44:05. > :44:15.done. David and I have put everything into it in the past four

:44:15. > :44:18.

:44:18. > :44:26.years. Like you say, we still have the C2. Jonathan Edwards is still

:44:26. > :44:32.there. I would not like to say you are a bad luck charm! It has been

:44:32. > :44:36.horrible. As said it today that yesterday and to Richard today,

:44:36. > :44:40.this is where they have trained and to see their hopes and dreams

:44:40. > :44:45.shattered in front of their eyes and then to speak to them and see

:44:45. > :44:51.that look in their eyes of just how disappointed they are, without any

:44:51. > :44:59.answers to where it went wrong, it has been horrible. So where has it

:45:00. > :45:09.gone wrong? Was that the pressure from the crowd? The whole home

:45:09. > :45:12.advantage for home disadvantage is an interesting debate. It is

:45:12. > :45:17.interesting that the venues where you would expect to have a home

:45:17. > :45:21.advantage, here at the Lee Valley and white water centre and also

:45:21. > :45:24.down in Weymouth where Ben Ainslie is struggling, you would think it

:45:25. > :45:29.would give the British competitors an advantage but it seems to have

:45:29. > :45:37.almost gone the other way. I think it is that expectation. And that

:45:37. > :45:41.whole other dynamic of funding. Everything that has gone in to make

:45:41. > :45:50.these Attlee's success what may also play on their mind. --

:45:50. > :45:55.Training these guys and guilting this place worthy for a World

:45:55. > :45:58.Championship, which is what it will hope host, and I guess that does

:45:58. > :46:02.play on their minds? It must. The important thing to mention about

:46:02. > :46:06.the money spent here, I think 13 million is it will be a legacy

:46:06. > :46:10.venue and regardless, I guess or not of the success of the paddlers

:46:10. > :46:15.here, this will continue and do very very well indeed. Nonetheless,

:46:15. > :46:20.this idea of creating a kind of participation legacy from the game,

:46:20. > :46:24.this will sit heavily on the shoulders of the pad lefrs,

:46:24. > :46:29.obviously their funding for the following year, going to Rio, rests

:46:29. > :46:33.on the performances here, so there is lots of different factors, it is

:46:33. > :46:36.not just the hopes and dreams of individual involved. Having spoke

:46:36. > :46:41.to David and Richard, are you confident that tomorrow n the C2

:46:41. > :46:46.you won't make it a hat-trick of negative interviews? I wouldn't say

:46:46. > :46:50.I was hugely confident. I don't think either of them have responded

:46:50. > :46:53.brilliantly to the pressure. On a positive note Lizzie Neave

:46:53. > :46:57.qualified second a couple of days ago, and I think the opposite thing

:46:57. > :47:01.happened for her, I think she, she improved her performance level. She

:47:02. > :47:05.rose to the occasion, so high hopes for her. Fingers crossed for her

:47:05. > :47:10.and the men. Thank you for joining us and if you would like to

:47:10. > :47:15.continue seeing the final in the men's K1 you can see that on the

:47:15. > :47:20.red button. That goes about 3.05. There is plenty of sport happening

:47:20. > :47:25.today. On BBC Three right now you can see live table tennis. China so

:47:25. > :47:29.dominant in this sport, over the years. You can press the red button

:47:29. > :47:32.for different sporting venues, and sports as well. Last night wasn't

:47:32. > :47:36.it fantastic. Great Britain's women up against Brazil. Brazil of course

:47:36. > :47:40.have never won a gold at the Olympic Games. Here they are taking

:47:40. > :47:47.on New Zealand. They the are at St James's Park at the moment. You can

:47:47. > :47:50.press the red button, and at Wembley it has been difficult, for

:47:50. > :47:54.the badminton, plenty of disqualifications after that

:47:54. > :47:58.controversy. A difficult 24-hours for the sport, all four pairs

:47:58. > :48:02.disqal past couple of hours who were involved in the controversial

:48:02. > :48:07.attempt to lose the match yesterday. You can see China and Korea taking

:48:07. > :48:10.each other on. One all and four all so it is looking exciting. At the

:48:10. > :48:14.start of the show we saw them cross the line but in is just how

:48:14. > :48:24.dominant a display the British women delivered earlier in the

:48:24. > :48:25.

:48:25. > :48:29.women's pair. The commentary comes a remarkable story is now under way.

:48:29. > :48:35.Seven minutes away from Olympic history. We have Great Britain's

:48:35. > :48:41.Helen Glover, Stan in lane three, alongside them -- Heather Stanning,

:48:41. > :48:45.Australia, Kate Hornsey. They are in five. Already now, Great Britain

:48:45. > :48:52.have jumped out of the starting gate, Romania in one, Romania are

:48:52. > :48:57.the defending Olympic champions, we have five time Olympic champion in

:48:57. > :49:01.the bow seat. Great Britain, they mean business. It is game on.

:49:01. > :49:05.Germans have gone out fast as well. Closest to us in lane six. They

:49:05. > :49:10.have the early lead but I don't expect them to hold that. Look out,

:49:10. > :49:14.they are already stretching out, Great Britain, looking fine. They

:49:14. > :49:17.have settling into a rhythm. Middle of the race rhythm. Quick look

:49:17. > :49:22.across there and already they have moved out in front. They have the

:49:22. > :49:26.Olympic, twice Olympic champions from Romania up in lane one, who

:49:26. > :49:29.are now back in fourth place. But Great Britain doing what they have

:49:29. > :49:33.done for the last two years, just looking fantastic, what they have

:49:33. > :49:37.done, look at that, already a length. What they do so well and

:49:37. > :49:40.what they have learned in the last winter was to be flexible. To be

:49:40. > :49:43.able to respond to the attack that comes at the end and which caught

:49:43. > :49:48.them out last year at the World Championships, when New Zealand

:49:48. > :49:53.attacked them at the end. But in is fantastic. Look at them. -- but

:49:53. > :49:59.this is fantastic. An exceptional start from Helen Glover and Heather

:49:59. > :50:07.Stanning. Helen Glover from Minerva Bath rowing club. They are storming

:50:07. > :50:11.away in the first quarter, it is absolutely wonderful to see. So 500,

:50:11. > :50:15.the crowd down here have gone mad. They are now clear, there is clear

:50:15. > :50:19.water on Great Britain as they head towards the record book, but right

:50:20. > :50:25.now they will be, that will all be irrelevant to them. It is about

:50:25. > :50:30.dictating and executing their plan. We thought it was important to show

:50:30. > :50:35.you the way that the women started their race, incredibly dominant.

:50:35. > :50:38.And the pattern continued. A length clear by 500 metres but being

:50:38. > :50:46.chased by Australia and New Zealand. However the pace from the British

:50:46. > :50:50.woman was relentless. Being spurred on by the crowd. Heather and Helen

:50:50. > :50:55.entered the final 250 metre, the Grandstand erupted. At one point it

:50:55. > :51:01.looked like they were trying to muster a smile, as was predictable

:51:01. > :51:04.by this point, the gold was theirs. Look at the emotion. Let us flare

:51:04. > :51:10.the first gold medallists after they finally recovered, and managed

:51:10. > :51:15.they finally recovered, and managed to get out of the boat.. Helen,

:51:15. > :51:19.Heather, well done. Thank you. Fantastic performance. You know...

:51:19. > :51:23.I don't need to ask you any questions. Tell us, tell us what is

:51:23. > :51:29.happening in that body of yours at the moment? I don't know. It wants

:51:29. > :51:33.to go into shut down but it can't. It is too excited. I am shattered

:51:33. > :51:37.and ecstatic at the same time. I want to collapse but I am so

:51:37. > :51:41.overjoyed. I want to jump round. I don't know. Probably talking

:51:41. > :51:47.rubbish. Matthew and Steve are watching on the screen, and you

:51:47. > :51:52.smiled, with 250 to go. They were saying "Don't smile, you haven't

:51:52. > :51:56.won it yet.". That is probably a grimace. I remember thinking never

:51:56. > :52:01.think we have got this. Then we got through the orange buoys and I

:52:01. > :52:05.thought we have got this. A serious rowing question to start with, you

:52:05. > :52:09.decided if we get out early nobody is going to catch us, that is what

:52:09. > :52:12.you did. Yes we could see from the race we have done this season, we

:52:12. > :52:17.got ahead and pushed on the margin and that is what we wanted to do.

:52:17. > :52:23.We didn't want to give anything back. We wanted to keep the same

:52:23. > :52:27.margin in all the World Cup up to now. Had Helen keep going in my ear,

:52:27. > :52:31.she was going go on, give us more. I can see them, they are behind us.

:52:31. > :52:34.We have a message from you from some of your colleagues from

:52:34. > :52:44.Afghanistan. If you put the head phones on. Here is what they have

:52:44. > :52:50.

:52:50. > :52:54.Brilliant. Brief and to the point. What is your message to them?

:52:54. > :52:58.Thanks very much guys, for all the support. I know you a long way away,

:52:58. > :53:02.but you have been supporting me and it means so much. I am proud to be

:53:02. > :53:06.associated with you, and well done keep doing what you are doing and I

:53:06. > :53:09.will see you soon. Four years ago you watched the agents in Beijing,

:53:09. > :53:14.you could never imagine four years on you would be in this position,

:53:14. > :53:18.who knows how many people are watching you who have never rowed

:53:18. > :53:23.and thinking that could be me in Rio. If I can do it take the chance,

:53:23. > :53:28.not just in rowing, if you work hard and try your best, anyone can

:53:28. > :53:31.do anything. Enjoy the anthem. will do. Congratulations to our

:53:31. > :53:37.first gold medallist in rowing and our first medallists here at London

:53:37. > :53:40.2012. Wasn't that wonderfulful what you didn't hear but a lovely

:53:40. > :53:45.message from her colleagues who are working away in the armed forces,

:55:26. > :55:31.for the medal table. China and the It puts us 14th at the moment.

:55:38. > :55:41.tears continue to flow. There are a few celebrations down at Eton

:55:41. > :55:46.Dorney for the next little while. Now, to the moment that we have

:55:46. > :55:51.been waiting for this afternoon. A chance for Bradley Wiggins to

:56:39. > :56:47.it was to the sponsors and all the prawn sandwiches in front of me, I

:56:47. > :56:54.felt it was much more appropriate to give time to them. Country has

:56:54. > :56:59.gone Wigtastic, people are sporting sideburns, mod T-shirt, riding

:56:59. > :57:06.Vespas. It is good it has that effect. A bit strange for me, but,

:57:06. > :57:11.you know, I do it to be individual, and so, but it is good. The biggest

:57:11. > :57:16.name in cycling, you are the winner of the Tour de France? Am I

:57:16. > :57:21.officially bigger than Cav now? I haven't done a Head and Shoulders

:57:21. > :57:25.ad though. Just the scale of the win, and the reaction in this

:57:25. > :57:30.country, do you pinch yourself? was a bit overwhelming. I was used

:57:30. > :57:33.to seeing that happen to Open other people, Chris, Chris Hoy, when he

:57:33. > :57:39.came back from Beijing. I don't think any of us appreciate what

:57:39. > :57:42.cycling is going through at the moment. You so concentrate on

:57:42. > :57:46.performance, we are down-to-earth by the nature of the sport. We

:57:46. > :57:50.don't fully appreciate what it is doing for the profile of the sport.

:57:50. > :57:56.To win the Tour de France takes an incredible effort. What sacrifices

:58:15. > :58:19.spare bedroom in a tent for weeks on end. Having a family and being a

:58:19. > :58:24.father and husband, and all that isn't conducive to trying to win

:58:25. > :58:31.the Tour de France. The two just don't go together, but, you know,

:58:31. > :58:39.if you have a supportive family like I have you can do. I don't

:58:39. > :58:44.know how long I can do it for. I couldn't do six like Lance did.

:58:44. > :58:50.This is your fourth Olympic, you have won six medals. You are

:58:50. > :58:54.steeped in Olympic history, what do they mean "no" you? It is like

:58:54. > :58:59.something you come back to, you don't miss them, so to come back

:58:59. > :59:03.here, same people, same staff, you know and it is good that, every

:59:03. > :59:07.four years I get a bit older and more successful, so from this 19-

:59:12. > :59:18.I am looking forward to going out there and trying to win my fourth

:59:26. > :59:32.am unbeaten in time trials this year, soy thought, well, I never

:59:32. > :59:36.give it a thought, you know, so that is quite nice statistic to

:59:47. > :59:52.Well I just won the Tour so I must be. Have a safe journey home and

:59:52. > :59:57.don't get too drunk. He might do that tonight if he manages to pick

:59:57. > :00:01.up the gold today. What a year, today is his big moment in the

:00:54. > :01:03.towards Kingston. It is fast, flat and Bradley Wiggins is unbeaten in

:01:03. > :01:12.this discipline in the past year. He has demolished all challengers.

:01:12. > :01:19.Chris Froome is less suited to this course. But he is still in with the

:07:07. > :07:12.should not cause too much of a problem for them.

:07:12. > :07:22.The bend in the first 300 metres of the race is probably the most

:07:40. > :08:09.

:08:09. > :08:18.the top of the leader board. all-rounders. There is a lot of

:08:18. > :08:22.road there and I'm surprised that they are not using it all.

:08:22. > :08:32.The conditions now are improving. There is a winter getting a but it

:08:32. > :08:34.

:08:34. > :08:41.is a warm and the sun is out. Chris Froome just warming up. He was

:08:41. > :08:51.recently second in the Tour de France. And had a very good time

:08:51. > :08:51.

:08:51. > :08:58.trial as well. Gustave Larsson had been one of these strange helmets.

:08:58. > :09:08.He got the silver medal in the time-trials in Beijing. So he is

:09:08. > :09:08.

:09:08. > :09:18.very good against the clock. I'm struggling to see what the

:09:18. > :09:57.

:09:57. > :10:05.bridge through that corridor of faces. He has been a bit quiet. He

:10:05. > :10:15.had a superb performance in China but not much sense.

:10:15. > :10:23.

:10:23. > :10:33.He won the national championships. And a stage back in Paris-Nice.

:10:33. > :10:33.

:10:33. > :10:43.Michael Rogers, a really good time trial there. 32 years of age. From

:10:43. > :10:51.

:10:51. > :10:57.Australia. He completed the Tour de France in the 23rd place. He was a

:10:57. > :11:02.time-trial specialist but then he started to climb mountains. He has

:11:02. > :11:07.got fantastic form. He has been very much in support of his team

:11:07. > :11:13.for the past month so it will be interesting to see what he can do

:11:13. > :11:18.now he is off the leash in a discipline that he knows well. He

:11:18. > :11:28.is in great shape but just has not had a chance yet of this year to

:11:28. > :11:36.

:11:36. > :11:41.use it for himself. He is one of several racing brothers. This is

:11:41. > :11:48.going to be his last Olympic Games so he will be keen to make the most

:11:48. > :11:52.of that opportunity. He is the youngest of three brothers. His

:11:52. > :12:02.older brother represented the Australia many times as well. So he

:12:02. > :12:14.

:12:14. > :12:24.would like to go out on a high is possible. Bak has still posted the

:12:24. > :12:40.

:12:50. > :13:04.

:13:04. > :13:10.Championship this year. No mean as quickly as you can on a normal

:13:10. > :13:20.road bike. He is an experienced man in his discipline. He knows there

:13:20. > :13:21.

:13:21. > :13:31.is 50 minutes of racing ahead. Energy is expensive.

:13:31. > :13:34.

:13:44. > :13:52.

:13:52. > :13:58.of those. Sylvain Chavanel posted some

:13:58. > :14:06.fantastic time trials this year. Third in the opening prologue of

:14:06. > :14:13.the Tour de France. 5th in the final time-trial. So you would

:14:13. > :14:23.expect to see him in the top eight or the top five today. But he is

:14:23. > :14:38.

:14:38. > :14:48.against some serious specialists. Brajkovic coming up now. He goes

:14:48. > :15:00.

:15:00. > :15:10.ahead, slicing 2.56 seconds off from Great Britain. We first saw

:15:10. > :15:11.

:15:11. > :15:21.him riding in the Commonwealth Games in Australia. He is a good

:15:21. > :15:26.

:15:26. > :15:36.rider. Second last year in the Tour of Spain. I think he could win the

:15:36. > :15:41.

:15:41. > :15:47.the professional teams in cycling can be signed for the first time

:15:47. > :15:57.today. So well -- there will be lots coming out on the news wires

:15:57. > :16:01.

:16:01. > :16:05.tonight. His form is such that you cannot discount him. Here's the man,

:16:05. > :16:10.the man of the moment, Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the Tour de

:16:10. > :16:14.France, in the form of his life. He is poised to move into sporting

:16:14. > :16:18.immortality. If he wins a medal today, no matter what colour, he

:16:18. > :16:25.will have got more medals in the Olympic Games than at any other

:16:25. > :16:33.British competitor. But that will not be on his mind, it will be all

:16:33. > :16:43.about trying to win. We had a glimpse of the sports scientist who

:16:43. > :16:44.

:16:44. > :16:54.has been instrumental with Team Sky and the success of Brad Wiggins.

:16:54. > :17:04.Next to go, the national champion of Italy. He used to be on the same

:17:04. > :17:17.

:17:17. > :17:27.end of the contest. Five more to go after this. He beat Geraint Thomas

:17:27. > :17:28.

:17:28. > :17:38.into second place in the Shearer did earlier this year. -- Giro

:17:38. > :17:49.

:17:49. > :17:59.d'Italia. He will be happy with that time. Great ride by Gilbert.

:17:59. > :17:59.

:17:59. > :18:08.Same time as Brajkovic. Now, a man in form, Sanchez, from Spain. He

:18:08. > :18:11.won a stage in the Tour de France, stage 14, and he got third in the

:18:11. > :18:18.final Time Trial in the Tour the France. I feel he has a possibility

:18:18. > :18:23.of a podium position. Yes, I think so, and so does he. Oh, he has had

:18:23. > :18:32.a problem, something has broken! He is looking down. He has just broken

:18:32. > :18:36.his chain! Can he get another bike? They are getting it off the roof.

:18:37. > :18:43.But starting your day by losing what will be 25 seconds. He has

:18:43. > :18:47.hurt his knee as well. He will get a lot of support from the crowd,

:18:47. > :18:53.but doing that at the start, for somebody who's potentially going to

:18:53. > :19:01.get a medal, what a devastating start. I reckon he lost between 20

:19:01. > :19:10.and 25 seconds, not to mention the effect on his morale. Well,

:19:10. > :19:14.desperately bad luck for Sanchez. You cannot believe it, can you?

:19:14. > :19:19.caught the team out as well, you do not expect mechanical failure

:19:19. > :19:26.within the first two metres of the race. We will keep an eye on that,

:19:26. > :19:31.see whether he is within 30 seconds of a muddle. Here's a man who we

:19:31. > :19:35.have been talking about as a possible dark horse today, 22-year-

:19:35. > :19:42.old Taylor Phinney. He is so talented. He rode on the track

:19:42. > :19:46.actually in Beijing. He earned prologue in Italy, but he has not

:19:46. > :19:54.raced since. He went back to Colorado to put the final

:19:54. > :19:59.preparations to his fall. He is a former world Time Trial champion.

:19:59. > :20:04.It comes from a great pedigree. His mother was the Olympic gold medal-

:20:04. > :20:11.winner in Los Angeles on the road. His father also has a great

:20:11. > :20:17.pedigree. He could be a dark horse. Yes, he has been out of sight for

:20:17. > :20:21.quite a few months, since Italy. We have not got much information about

:20:21. > :20:25.him since then, but we do know that he has been preparing specifically

:20:25. > :20:30.for this. He likes the flatter courses, as this man does not,

:20:30. > :20:36.Chris Froome. He would much prefer the mountains. But his form is such

:20:36. > :20:46.at the moment that he may be able to overcome that problem. He has

:20:46. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:55.got one of the asymmetric bar chain rings, favoured by Bradley Wiggins.

:20:55. > :20:58.Now, the world champion, Tony Martin. A 27-year-old German. He

:20:58. > :21:08.had a crash on the first stage of the Tour de France, which

:21:08. > :21:09.

:21:10. > :21:19.eventually forced him to retire. He will be wearing a brace on his arm

:21:20. > :21:22.

:21:22. > :21:26.under his top there. You can never discount this talented German.

:21:26. > :21:30.CHRIS BOARDMAN: Having those problems in the Tour de France, and

:21:30. > :21:34.earlier in the year as well, we have got to put him down as unknown.

:21:34. > :21:38.The pedigree is there, the background is there, but we do not

:21:38. > :21:41.know what to expect. He certainly looks in good shape to me. In the

:21:42. > :21:46.Time Trial, if you have a wrist injury, most of your weight is

:21:46. > :21:53.taken on the elbow, so you can train quite effectively for this,

:21:53. > :22:00.and some riders have even done so with a broken collarbone, as

:22:00. > :22:04.demonstrated by Armstrong just a few hours ago.

:22:04. > :22:09.HUGH PORTER: now, we are waiting for Bradley Wiggins, the man of the

:22:09. > :22:19.moment, to come into the starting house. Here comes Castroviejo, from

:22:19. > :22:24.

:22:24. > :22:29.Spain. His time at that point makes him the quickest, he has gone 20

:22:30. > :22:33.seconds faster than Brajkovic. Now, then, a face of concentration,

:22:33. > :22:38.Bradley Wiggins, the man who has just won the Tour de France. He is

:22:38. > :22:42.teeing himself up for a tilt at the gold medal here. As I said earlier,

:22:42. > :22:47.if he wins a medal of any colour, he will become the most decorated

:22:47. > :22:52.British Olympian of all time, with seven medals to his credit. Wiggins

:22:52. > :22:58.gets under way! Unbeaten in the Time Trial this year, that's not

:22:58. > :23:04.counting prologues, the short ones. But Bradley Wiggins is on his way.

:23:04. > :23:09.What an opportunity for him. London at heart, although he lives in the

:23:09. > :23:13.north-west now. But he considers this to be a once-in-a-lifetime

:23:13. > :23:16.opportunity. There is plenty of pressure for him to perform, both

:23:16. > :23:20.for himself, and for the thousands and thousands of people lining the

:23:20. > :23:25.route today. But if anybody can deal with pressure, it is Brad

:23:25. > :23:35.Wiggins. He certainly can. Second in the World Championships last

:23:35. > :23:48.

:23:48. > :23:52.Chris Froome is settling down to the challenge ahead. It is a great

:23:52. > :23:58.course for those that can concentrate. It is a very internal

:23:58. > :24:04.race. We saw him just going through the checkpoint. I think I saw it

:24:04. > :24:10.flashing up as five seconds ahead. One man to go, and here he is,

:24:10. > :24:17.Fabien Cancellara, the defending champion. He is a sensational time-

:24:17. > :24:22.trialler. He won the Olympic title in Beijing, beating Larsson by 33

:24:22. > :24:27.seconds. There was some speculation about him not riding today. He has

:24:27. > :24:31.got heavy bruising on his shoulder having come off during the road

:24:31. > :24:37.race a few days ago. We will see whether it has affected him. But on

:24:37. > :24:42.his day, almost unbeatable. It is a fantastic course for him as well.

:24:42. > :24:46.He likes a flat course. No problem for him at all. It was very much

:24:46. > :24:50.out of character, that crash at the weekend, he simply miscalculated

:24:50. > :24:55.the corner, locked up his wheels, and went down hard into that

:24:55. > :24:59.barrier. But just like Tony Martin, he is an unknown today. You would

:25:00. > :25:04.say he would be one of the two favourites, but very much unknown,

:25:04. > :25:07.after that crash. Personally, I think if he is here, he will be one

:25:07. > :25:15.of the main contenders. He would not have started if he was not

:25:15. > :25:20.confident he could do it. There is Brad Wiggins, the man who has won

:25:20. > :25:24.three gold medals in a Olympic Games on the track. Two British

:25:24. > :25:28.riders who really performed magnificently in the recent Tour de

:25:28. > :25:34.France, finishing first and second in the end. Chris Froome, looking

:25:34. > :25:39.good, holding that nice, compact style. This is Tony Martin. It is

:25:39. > :25:43.all about these final six competitors.

:25:43. > :25:50.CHRIS BOARDMAN: These first checkpoints are going to be

:25:50. > :25:54.fascinating to see. Some of them might have gone off too quickly,

:25:54. > :25:59.especially the early riders, but these latter riders are all much

:25:59. > :26:09.more experienced. The first split will give us a very good idea of

:26:09. > :26:09.

:26:09. > :26:15.who will be in contention for a medal. As we come back to Chris

:26:15. > :26:19.Froome, originally from Kenya, now, of course, part of the British set-

:26:19. > :26:22.up. It will be interesting to see whether he does consider a transfer

:26:22. > :26:28.between teams in the professional game, with that deadline for

:26:28. > :26:35.transfers being today, as we were saying. Coming up to the checkpoint

:26:35. > :26:41.here, Boasson Hagen, and he is 17 seconds shy of the time of the

:26:41. > :26:47.leader, Castroviejo. It is Chris Froome who leads at the first split,

:26:48. > :26:52.actually. He is six seconds ahead of Larsson at the moment. But now,

:26:52. > :26:56.we will start to get the times of Sanchez and Phinney, those will be

:26:57. > :27:03.the next interesting ones. We can just keep a look out here for the

:27:03. > :27:09.late starters, at the 7.3 kilometres point. We are very keen

:27:09. > :27:14.to see how evenly matched people like the man we are looking at now,

:27:14. > :27:24.Cancellara, Wiggins and Martin are. The early splits will I feel give

:27:24. > :27:34.

:27:34. > :27:39.us an idea of the kind of ride after a week, but he pulled out

:27:39. > :27:48.because his wife gave birth to their second daughter. As the next

:27:48. > :27:54.finisher comes in, Lahsaini, from Morocco. He is one of the early

:27:54. > :28:04.starters, but that time of course is going to crumble. That's the

:28:04. > :28:06.

:28:06. > :28:10.first rider in. So, Castroviejo has caught Hesjedal. That is a surprise.

:28:10. > :28:16.I thought Hesjedal would perform better than that at this Olympic

:28:16. > :28:26.Time Trial. Look at the crouching style of the Spaniard, really low

:28:26. > :28:33.

:28:33. > :28:38.down, turning a very big gear as he waiting for his time split. Let me

:28:38. > :28:43.just tell you, Taylor Phinney has gone through one second faster than

:28:43. > :28:49.Chris Froome at 7.3 kilometres. So, the man we said could be a dark

:28:49. > :28:57.horse, Phinney, has not disappointed at this early stage.

:28:57. > :29:06.He is the fastest at 7.3 kilometres. That's a good ride by the man from

:29:06. > :29:15.Venezuela, coming in now. I think the winning time might be inside

:29:15. > :29:22.the 50 three-minute mark today. We're still looking at Chris Froome,

:29:22. > :29:27.but of course, behind him, we have got Sanchez. Sanchez will be out of

:29:27. > :29:33.it, because he had that disastrous start with the broken chain. We're

:29:33. > :29:40.waiting for the times now of Martin, Wiggins and Cancellara. Look at the

:29:40. > :29:44.crowd. What a fantastic experience to have, to ride on British roads

:29:44. > :29:49.with that many Union Jacks flying in front of you. It is quite

:29:49. > :29:57.fantastic. Time coming in for Tony Martin, the world champion, he has

:29:58. > :30:01.gone through 7.3 kilometres in 8.22, nine seconds faster than Phinney.

:30:01. > :30:07.And we have got Wiggins and Cancellara still to go through that

:30:07. > :30:17.first split. Martin, the world champion, my goodness me, he looks

:30:17. > :30:17.

:30:17. > :30:23.good. It was a puncture in the opening prologue which stopped him

:30:23. > :30:30.contesting back, but apart from that, he was on a par with Fabian

:30:30. > :30:35.Cancellara. Martin is a prodigious talent, we saw that when he won the

:30:35. > :30:40.world title in Copenhagen last year. He came home with a brilliant

:30:40. > :30:44.victory, one minute 15 seconds faster than Wiggins. But he has had

:30:44. > :30:54.his problems, as I said, breaking that bone in the wrist, but for the

:30:54. > :31:05.

:31:05. > :31:12.moment, for me, he is looking very and Cancellara. The latest time by

:31:12. > :31:22.the Venezuelan. Confirmed for you. No, it was 57.41. As go back to

:31:22. > :31:23.

:31:23. > :31:30.Froome. Such a fantastic climber is Chris Froome, and future Tour de

:31:30. > :31:34.France winner, we think. Sweeping down here, Western Green Road. The

:31:34. > :31:39.smooth surface, he is happy with that. It has come through Bradley

:31:39. > :31:45.Wiggins at the 7.3 kilometre split as gone through five secondss off

:31:45. > :31:51.the pace of Tony Martin, so five seconds shy of the World Champions

:31:51. > :31:55.time. Only one more rider to come through that and that of course is

:31:55. > :31:59.Fabian Cancellara, it is early days they are early indication. I think

:31:59. > :32:02.Bradley Wiggins is going to be OK with that, he is very much in touch

:32:02. > :32:08.at seven kilometre, everybody is panning out the starting style.

:32:08. > :32:11.Depend whether they are starting to come out carefully and pace it over

:32:11. > :32:16.the distance, Wiggins has start ed too fast in Spain, he paid the

:32:16. > :32:21.price, he learned you have to be careful at the start, so we will

:32:21. > :32:26.get a better indication when they get to the 18 kilometre mark.

:32:26. > :32:33.are waiting for Cancellara's split time. So, this is Bradley Wiggins,

:32:33. > :32:38.nice compact style, a man of course, that can ride 4.15 for 4,000 metres

:32:38. > :32:44.in the individual pursuit. He was a member of that well drill yued nit

:32:44. > :32:50.that clinched the medal in Beijing, don't go too far over Bradley! We

:32:50. > :32:55.almost saw the American crash there. He is not taking any chances there

:32:55. > :32:59.at all. There is something of an ungainly style, a bit, well just a

:32:59. > :33:02.slight frame, struggles to get all the power down on to the road. As

:33:02. > :33:08.we switch back to Bradley Wiggins, doesn't look in any kind of

:33:08. > :33:13.difficulty at the moment, that smooth style, karktris --

:33:13. > :33:18.characteristic of Bradley Wiggins. Confirm the time at the first split

:33:18. > :33:22.of Cancellara, it is eight minutes 28 seconds which is one second

:33:22. > :33:26.slower than Wiggins but six seconds slower than Tony Martin of Germany.

:33:26. > :33:33.So the three big players are already dualling out there on the

:33:33. > :33:40.road and Phinney in touch on 8.31 and Froome is there on 8.32. As our

:33:40. > :33:45.next fin esh -- fin Iisher Beppu, an average speed of 47.4. We can

:33:45. > :33:49.see that creep up towards possibly surface the 50 kilometres an hour

:33:49. > :33:53.mark before we get to the end of this event. Look at Wiggins, he

:33:53. > :33:59.will be wear of what is going on throughout with his main opponent

:33:59. > :34:05.and the Tour de France winner really has enjoy add euphoric

:34:05. > :34:10.greeting into the start area. But those times in that first split,

:34:10. > :34:15.7.3 kilometres, very interesting. What a compact punchy style here of

:34:15. > :34:20.Castroviejo of Spain. He is having a great ride. As he takes a drink,

:34:20. > :34:23.he really has started the race incredibly fast. As we go back to

:34:23. > :34:27.Michael Rogers here, as he approached the checkpoint. We were

:34:27. > :34:32.unsure of what he was going to do, well, it is certainly respectable.

:34:32. > :34:38.At best here he will post the fastest time by far. He is going to

:34:38. > :34:41.go quicker than Castroviejo. So, the triple World Champion Rogers,

:34:41. > :34:45.faithful servant to Wiggins in the Tour de France, she going to go to

:34:45. > :34:50.the top of the leaderboard. Lots more big names still to come. But

:34:50. > :34:55.Rogers still looking good. Let us look at the split. It is 24.02.

:34:55. > :35:04.Takes 18 seconds off the time of Castroviejo. Technical first

:35:04. > :35:07.section is be lying of the average speeds. Very fast run in today.

:35:07. > :35:13.lean is Bradley Wiggins. He has lost a lot of weight which has

:35:13. > :35:17.enabled him to be able to climb the mountains well, and he has had

:35:17. > :35:22.bootcamps over there on the vom can nick mountain in Tenerife where he

:35:22. > :35:27.has been doing has training, continually powering away up that

:35:27. > :35:33.steep mountain. You get fairly lean in the month of July when you are

:35:33. > :35:37.using up thousands of calories. There is an aerodynamic component

:35:37. > :35:42.because your sill weth is reduced by a few millimetres all the way

:35:42. > :35:49.round, not to mention the weight as well, which is beneficial. Hampton

:35:49. > :35:56.Court roadway now. The next split time will be interesting. The next

:35:56. > :36:01.is Grabsch, a former World Champion, as the next finish coming in, this

:36:01. > :36:08.is Basayev. He is a minute slow of the leader at this stage, which is

:36:08. > :36:17.still Beppu, the Japanese rider, so Beppu still leading. It looks like

:36:17. > :36:20.the people who came in are the favourites, are delivering. That

:36:20. > :36:26.cans lar, Wiggins, Martin the people we thought would be in play.

:36:26. > :36:31.Here comes Grabsch, the 37-year-old German. 24.09 so the time of

:36:31. > :36:36.Michael Rogers is out of reach here. Let us see how far shy he is of the

:36:36. > :36:40.Australian at this point. There it s14 seconds fob Grabsch. Second at

:36:40. > :36:48.this point then. For the former World Champion from Germany. So

:36:48. > :36:52.Beppu still leading, 55.40. And second at 55.50 is Nazaret from

:36:52. > :36:59.Brazil. Third from Kazakhstan, his time will be, how long will it be

:36:59. > :37:03.up there, we will have to see. That is Basayev. This is Cancellara, he

:37:03. > :37:09.is rolling on that saddle. For wand on the peak as we confirm the

:37:09. > :37:13.position after 7.3 kilometres. Tight. Just under five seconds.

:37:13. > :37:18.Wiggins trails with Cancellara third, just under six. What a

:37:18. > :37:22.contest we have got here. It is going to go all the way, this one.

:37:22. > :37:26.Five seconds, everybody is still in touch. Taylor Phinney nine second,

:37:26. > :37:29.it is stretching out, a lot to give away on a flat course but still

:37:29. > :37:33.possible for him to nudge on the the podium from that distance away,

:37:34. > :37:38.from the top three. After that, well, I don't think they are going

:37:38. > :37:43.to be able to make up that distance unless somebody has an issue as we

:37:43. > :37:48.switch back to Michael Rogers. Looking good, isn't he, Michael

:37:48. > :37:56.Rogers, as I said earlier, came from a track background, and one

:37:56. > :38:00.medals at the Commonwealth games in 1998, but he was a member as well

:38:00. > :38:05.of the well drilled team pursuit squad of Australia. He has got some

:38:05. > :38:09.superb road wins to his credit, he won the tour of California, tour of

:38:09. > :38:13.Germany, he has been right up there, superb man to have has a domestic

:38:13. > :38:19.in the team. I think he has enjoyed the lesser responsibility, as we

:38:19. > :38:25.get our first shot coming up to the necks check with Froome. The man

:38:25. > :38:29.that started ahead of him, Chavanel was the man who started a minute-

:38:29. > :38:33.and-a-half ahead of Froome. Let us look at the split. Very very quick.

:38:34. > :38:36.It is going to go inside the time of Rogers. You can see the time

:38:36. > :38:40.confirmed. Here comes Froome. Let us have a look. He is on form,

:38:40. > :38:46.isn't he, this man. The runner up in the Tour de France, Chris Froome

:38:46. > :38:49.looking very very good indeed. Softly spoken, it be lies his

:38:49. > :38:55.athletic delivery on that bike. Is he going to be half a minute

:38:55. > :39:01.quicker? He is not going to be far off it. Here he comes, 24 seconds

:39:01. > :39:06.faster than Rogers. At the second point of 18 com ters. He is on a

:39:06. > :39:09.ride. That is a huge chunk of time so we can expect the main riders to

:39:09. > :39:13.come through, perhaps another kilometre an hour faster than that

:39:13. > :39:16.as we see the style of Froome, coming round this corner, he

:39:16. > :39:20.settled into this race now. This is the interesting checkpoint for me

:39:20. > :39:25.this is the one we are interest interested in. The first one you

:39:25. > :39:31.need to stay in touch but the 18 kilometre mark will define who it

:39:31. > :39:36.is who is vying for a podium place. Young Phinney, even if he doesn't

:39:36. > :39:39.medal today, he has a tremendous future ahead of him, has Phinney,

:39:39. > :39:44.and he looks good on the bike. has his work to do here, nine

:39:44. > :39:48.seconds down at that first check, it is quite a chunk on this flat

:39:48. > :39:52.course but he is only a couple of seconds away from getting on to the

:39:52. > :39:55.podium. Well, that is an interesting thing, I didn't think

:39:55. > :40:00.there was any descent on this course that warranted tucking down

:40:01. > :40:05.to make himself as small as possible. Is this Sanchez again?

:40:05. > :40:10.Looks like he has had more trouble? We were talking about him as being

:40:10. > :40:15.a possible contender. Yes, there he is delayed and stopped again. He

:40:15. > :40:19.has had a puncture. Is it a back wheel change It's a rear wheel

:40:19. > :40:23.change. I think the day over for him. What turbl luck. He has come

:40:23. > :40:28.with great form after that Tour de France. That is a disaster. It must

:40:28. > :40:35.be hard to keep the motorration to keep going. We had him flagged up a

:40:35. > :40:40.as medal contender and he would have been had he not had these

:40:40. > :40:46.problems. Pinotti, another brilliant season time trialler, but

:40:46. > :40:52.his time of 23.55 is not going to put Froome under any pressure at

:40:52. > :40:57.all here comes Pinotti. That underlines the quality of the ride

:40:57. > :41:03.by Froome. 26 seconds slower Chris, in 18 kilometre, you can analyse

:41:03. > :41:07.from that, that Froome is on a flyer. Well, he is certainly

:41:07. > :41:12.setting the the mark, isn't he. Taylor Phinney, we are waiting to

:41:12. > :41:16.see what he is going to do, Because he will be next. He has prepared

:41:16. > :41:23.for this vent for the past few months. We haven't seen anything of

:41:23. > :41:30.him in competition, it has been all about this Olympic time trial.

:41:30. > :41:35.did all that preparation as we come back now to Bradley Wiggins. Such

:41:35. > :41:39.an official style. I doesn't look like he is trying hard. His muscles

:41:39. > :41:44.are contracting in equality. There is no movement in his back pocket

:41:44. > :41:47.he was carrying a radio, so he is getting time checks all the way

:41:47. > :41:53.round. The British team has set up time checks on route. Even though

:41:53. > :41:56.he is in front of Cancellara his time checks won't be any more than

:41:56. > :42:00.that minute-and-a-half difference. You see how cautiously he went

:42:00. > :42:05.round that turn, Cancellara playing on his mind, the crash from the

:42:05. > :42:11.road race, as we look at the running time here of Bak of Denmark.

:42:11. > :42:18.Who is going to be the next to finish. The leading time, sorry Bak,

:42:18. > :42:25.you can see the leading time. This is Boom coming in and Boom's time,

:42:25. > :42:30.56.53 so it hasn't disturbed the leading poss, they are still intact.

:42:30. > :42:36.-- positions we are waiting to see whether yun Phinney can challenge

:42:36. > :42:40.for the top position at the 18 kilometre point. -- young Phinney.

:42:40. > :42:46.Well, it is all about that check, and for me, as I pensioned, it does

:42:46. > :42:50.define who is going to be challenging for a medal. Two or

:42:50. > :42:55.three minutes from now we will see Tony Martin coming through that

:42:55. > :43:00.checkpoint. He clearly is, you can see by the muscle definition, it

:43:00. > :43:04.all ind case he is on form, he has got over the cashes and focused on

:43:04. > :43:09.this opportunity, this Olympic time trial and on a course that suits

:43:09. > :43:14.him very well. Martin motoring along as we get back to Phinney,

:43:14. > :43:18.who is just ploughing this furrow down the middle of the road. He has

:43:18. > :43:23.his own private carpet of Tarmac ahead of him. The open clear road.

:43:23. > :43:27.It's the race of truth. That call it that in France. It is you versus

:43:27. > :43:31.the distance, the one-and-a-half minute window between yourself and

:43:31. > :43:34.your opponents, so you can be cheated or knocked off or

:43:34. > :43:39.outsprinted. Here comes Phinney, up to the 18.4 kilometre point. Now

:43:39. > :43:44.the quickest time we have had so far there, is Froome on 23.38,

:43:44. > :43:49.shown on the screen. And he is not going the beat Froome. So fin qi

:43:49. > :43:56.knows he is in a battle -- Phinney knows he is in a battle. So Phinney

:43:56. > :44:00.is there in 23.59. That is 21.5 seconds Chloe slower than the

:44:00. > :44:04.British rider. Well, you will notice with the camera shots we

:44:04. > :44:08.only get front shots, because none of these vehicles are allowed to go

:44:08. > :44:12.in front of the riders because that gives them an unfair advantage,

:44:12. > :44:17.they can slip stream. Even the motorbike cameras have to be at

:44:17. > :44:21.least half a length behind the riders. There has been another

:44:21. > :44:25.catch here, another catch has taken place. Sanchez. Sanchez who

:44:25. > :44:30.suffered the problems. There has been another catch. I think it's

:44:30. > :44:35.going to happen now. Sanchez is going to get picked up. Martin is

:44:35. > :44:39.going to go faster. Sorry Chris, that is the carrot he want, he can

:44:39. > :44:45.see Sanchez ahead of him. Let us look at the split time. Here it

:44:45. > :44:53.come, so fastest now, 12 seconds quicker than Froome. Is Tony Martin,

:44:53. > :44:57.the World Champion, he splits there on 18.4 kilometre, 23.25. He has

:44:57. > :45:01.only taken two sofrpbdz the distance. That is, shows that

:45:01. > :45:05.Froome has got the distance, because of that Tour de France

:45:05. > :45:11.endurance, the extra ground work he has put in there, he is going very

:45:11. > :45:16.well, so has Martin gone off a little bit quickly here? Jack Bauer

:45:16. > :45:20.coming in for New Zealand. He had some good splits earlier on, so let

:45:20. > :45:27.us confirm his finishing position, Bauer. Just come in, and he is

:45:27. > :45:34.third at the moment. With a time of 54 minutes 54 seconds. So, he

:45:34. > :45:44.hasn't taken the lead away from the previous pacesetter. Which is

:45:44. > :45:51.

:45:51. > :45:57.at the time on the right! Wiggins looks to me as though he has done a

:45:57. > :46:02.lot of good work in this second section. There's the time to beat...

:46:02. > :46:08.Here comes Bradley Wiggins! Wiggins is going to go into the lead. Look

:46:08. > :46:13.at that! 11 seconds faster than Martin. He is the leader.

:46:13. > :46:18.CHRIS BOARDMAN: We did say that after his experiences of last year

:46:18. > :46:22.in the Tour of Spain, he does not start too quickly. He knows that

:46:22. > :46:28.this race is only about getting over the finishing line. He has got

:46:28. > :46:33.the courage of his convictions, to start steady and to measure his

:46:33. > :46:38.efforts across the whole distance. So, at the 18.4 kilometre point,

:46:38. > :46:46.Wiggins is leading. 11 seconds back, in silver medal position, is Tony

:46:46. > :46:49.Martin. Third at the moment is Froome. We are still awaiting the

:46:49. > :46:53.arrival of Fabien Cancellara. But Cancellara was down at the first

:46:53. > :46:58.split, at 7.3 kilometres. Wiggins, at the moment, is on track

:46:58. > :47:03.to deliver that gold medal. He is riding incredibly well. Fabien

:47:03. > :47:08.Cancellara, I think, is the only person who can upset this now, and

:47:08. > :47:18.he was already on the back foot after that first check. We look now

:47:18. > :47:19.

:47:19. > :47:24.at Martyn. Actually it is not, it is Sanchez. Yes, Sanchez of Spain,

:47:24. > :47:30.who has had a shocking day, breaking his chain, and it looked

:47:30. > :47:34.like a puncher as well. As Froome continues the good work. The

:47:34. > :47:39.British riders at the moment in first and third, with the world

:47:39. > :47:44.champion between them. Here comes Cancellara, Spartacus himself, four

:47:44. > :47:49.times the world champion, defending Olympic champion. He is away, he is

:47:49. > :47:53.out to be! He is not going to threaten Wiggins Jiyai Shin that

:47:53. > :47:57.underlines the sheer class and talent of the Tour the France

:47:57. > :48:04.winner. Cancellara is not going to be in the medals with this, I don't

:48:04. > :48:10.think. Coming up to the line now... Here is the split... Fourth at the

:48:10. > :48:13.moment, 30 seconds slower than Brad Wiggins. Well, we said this was the

:48:13. > :48:20.time check which was going to define who was fighting for the

:48:20. > :48:30.podium positions. And it has turned out to be the case, Fabien

:48:30. > :48:32.

:48:32. > :48:41.Cancellara would appear to be out of it now. So, really, it is Froome,

:48:41. > :48:46.Wiggins and Martin. This is Rodgers, and he has certainly got his race

:48:47. > :48:51.face on. As we go back to the silky smooth style of Bradley Wiggins.

:48:51. > :48:54.This is another stellar performance from him. This year, he has won the

:48:54. > :49:03.Paris-Nice, the Tour de France, amongst others. It is just

:49:03. > :49:07.unbelievable. Every time he turns out, he is a winner.

:49:07. > :49:15.CHRIS BOARDMAN: He has got a pedigree which says he will always

:49:15. > :49:19.be podium competitive. Fabien Cancellara is still in contention

:49:19. > :49:23.for a medal, but I feel that the gold medal will be contested

:49:23. > :49:29.between Tony Martin and Brad Wiggins. So, 11 seconds between the

:49:30. > :49:34.two of them at the 18.4 kilometre point. So, they are through a

:49:34. > :49:37.halfway point. It is the world champion, Tony Martin, versus the

:49:37. > :49:39.winner of the Tour de France, Bradley Wiggins. They were first

:49:39. > :49:43.and second in the World Championships last year in

:49:43. > :49:50.Copenhagen, when Tony Martin beat Wiggins by one minute 15 seconds.

:49:50. > :50:00.That's not going to be the case today. Here's Vinokurov, who earned

:50:00. > :50:05.

:50:05. > :50:08.road race just a few days ago. And it is sixth position for him.

:50:08. > :50:16.think he can be relatively happy, already having a gold medal in his

:50:16. > :50:26.pocket. As we go back to Froome. The high street here absolutely

:50:26. > :50:26.

:50:26. > :50:30.packed to capacity. This is where he actually pulled up on the road

:50:30. > :50:38.race, so he will have memories of this. Well, he is not pulling up

:50:38. > :50:44.now. He certainly isn't. Brad Wiggins, in that aerodynamic

:50:44. > :50:50.position, the legs pumping so efficiently. That caption is wrong,

:50:50. > :50:53.I think that is actually Froome. They both have similar styles.

:50:53. > :50:58.are very gangly, Chris Froome walking a bit more from side to

:50:58. > :51:02.side, to get that effort alt. He prefers the mountains, but I tell

:51:02. > :51:07.you what, he is making a good job of discourse, considering it is not

:51:07. > :51:12.ideal for him. We are waiting anxiously for the third time split,

:51:12. > :51:21.which will be so important, that comes at 29.9 kilometres. After

:51:21. > :51:25.that, they will be on the run to the finish. That's Wiggins. He has

:51:25. > :51:35.got his main competitors in front of him now. He had Cancellara

:51:35. > :51:38.behind him, of course, but I think to all intents and purposes, he is

:51:38. > :51:42.out of it now, so Brad Wiggins has got everybody in front of him,

:51:42. > :51:52.which gives him the ability to measure his effort, by getting lots

:51:52. > :52:10.

:52:10. > :52:18.Denmark. As we go back to the world champion, Tony Martin, with his

:52:18. > :52:26.silky smooth style. Very, very good style, for people who are watching

:52:26. > :52:36.these fellas, they can learn a lot from the way they sit on the bike.

:52:36. > :52:46.The next split will be at 29.9 kilometres. The fastest we have had

:52:46. > :53:04.

:53:04. > :53:08.through their at the moment is Froome has registered a 35.25.

:53:08. > :53:15.That's at the 29.9 kilometre point. So, Froome, no indication of

:53:15. > :53:24.fatigue, he continues to power his weigh. He dearly wants an Olympic

:53:24. > :53:27.medal, and the way he is going, he is going to get one. All of the

:53:27. > :53:37.winners in this race are going to come from the Tour de France, that

:53:37. > :53:44.

:53:44. > :53:53.is the best possible preparation specialist from Italy, Pinotti. He

:53:53. > :53:58.is a faithful contender when he comes to this, 36 years of age.

:53:58. > :54:04.Good style from him, but I have to say, he has been outclassed today

:54:04. > :54:14.by these riders. Can we make it two British medals on the podium? That

:54:14. > :54:16.

:54:16. > :54:26.really would be something. I think they are capable of doing it. As we

:54:26. > :54:28.

:54:28. > :54:36.so which back to Tony Martin. the guy that can split them up.

:54:36. > :54:43.are still waiting for the arrival of Phinney. Cancellara does not

:54:43. > :54:53.look as though he has got it today. Here comes the next rider into the

:54:53. > :54:53.

:54:53. > :55:03.finish, Oliveira, from Portugal. He is not going to threaten the top

:55:03. > :55:18.

:55:18. > :55:22.four. Here he comes, and that puts split time for the serious

:55:22. > :55:28.contenders. Bradley Wiggins continues, in his wonderful style.

:55:28. > :55:34.He has been in imperious form. CHRIS BOARDMAN: He will know that

:55:34. > :55:38.he has just got to keep on top of it now. Once you get this far in,

:55:38. > :55:42.in the Time Trial, it becomes all about your aerobic efficiency. He

:55:42. > :55:47.will be getting constant time checks, so all he has got to do is

:55:47. > :55:52.to keep it going, do not take any unnecessary risks, do not push it

:55:52. > :55:58.too hard. And he knows how to control himself. He is on course

:55:58. > :56:08.for a gold medal. Now, what has the young American done during the last

:56:08. > :56:13.section? We wait to see. Phinney comes through on 36.13. He is 48

:56:13. > :56:17.seconds off the pace, so he is losing time. Here's a man who is

:56:17. > :56:22.not. That's right. It is Tony Martin, the world champion. It is

:56:22. > :56:28.almost feasible here for him to close down on Phinney. If he sees

:56:28. > :56:36.him in front of him, that would help him. 19 seconds faster. So, at

:56:36. > :56:42.29.9 kilometres, Chris Froome is in second. We are still waiting for

:56:42. > :56:50.Wiggins and Cancellara. Cancellara, I feel, is out of this. It is only

:56:50. > :56:54.Wiggins who can pressurise Tony Martin. I think we are looking at

:56:54. > :56:57.the final podium places here, Bradley Wiggins heading for gold,

:56:57. > :57:07.Tony Martin splitting the two British riders, and Chris Froome

:57:07. > :57:17.

:57:17. > :57:23.and the first of the two will be Brad Wiggins. We are waiting to see

:57:23. > :57:28.his time at 29.9 kilometres... At the previous time split, he was

:57:28. > :57:34.ahead of Tony Martin. What will he be here? This is impressive, Chris

:57:34. > :57:38.Boardman... He is quick, but not really pushing it out that much. 22

:57:38. > :57:42.seconds, the difference, between Wiggins and Tony Martin. He has got

:57:42. > :57:48.that lead, but it is certainly not a comfortable buffer. He cannot

:57:48. > :57:53.afford to make any mistakes on this final leg. So, Bradley Wiggins is

:57:53. > :57:57.leading Tony Martin by 22 seconds at that final split. Is that window

:57:57. > :58:01.of advantage going to be enough to give Wiggins his fourth gold medal

:58:01. > :58:07.and his seventh Olympic medal? Remember, whatever middle he wins

:58:07. > :58:13.today will make him the greatest British Olympian ever. It would

:58:13. > :58:17.take his tally up to seven. He looks like a man who's really going

:58:17. > :58:21.about the job with clinical efficiency. What an incredible

:58:21. > :58:25.experience, to be riding on the roads of London, surrounded by

:58:25. > :58:30.hundreds of thousands of British fans. It is the opportunity of a

:58:30. > :58:36.lifetime, and he is making the most of it. Under the trees he comes,

:58:36. > :58:46.Bradley Wiggins, just eating away the final kilometres. This is

:58:46. > :58:51.Cancellara. We wait to see how his time will be shaping up. We are not

:58:51. > :58:54.seeing him on our long shot yet, so he is still a fair way from that

:58:54. > :59:00.time check. I don't think Cancellara is going to upset things

:59:00. > :59:10.here. It is Chris Froome we want to see? Can he disturbed that position

:59:10. > :59:12.

:59:12. > :59:18.for bronze medal? Back to Chris Froome now, eating up the

:59:18. > :59:22.concluding kilometres of this Time Trial. And this is Bradley Wiggins,

:59:22. > :59:27.coming up to Sanchez, of Spain. It has been a disastrous day for

:59:27. > :59:37.censures, breaking his chain, then having a puncture. Bradley Wiggins

:59:37. > :59:40.sweeps past him. A little bonus there for Bradley Wiggins. Sanchez

:59:41. > :59:50.just riding back to the changing rooms, I think, that must be so

:59:51. > :59:59.

:59:59. > :00:02.disarming, breaking his chain, then certainly gone off the boil.

:00:02. > :00:12.seemed to fade during the Tour de France as well. He has certainly

:00:12. > :00:22.not been in good form. Fabien Cancellara there, I don't think he

:00:22. > :00:23.

:00:23. > :00:32.is going to disturb the podium. He will not dislodge anybody ahead of

:00:32. > :00:36.him, with 14 kilometres to go. So, Bradley Wiggins is quickest at that

:00:36. > :00:46.final checkpoint. Second, Tony Martin, the world champion. Third,

:00:46. > :00:51.

:00:51. > :00:54.Wiggins has tad to deal with the pressure of being the favourite in

:00:54. > :00:57.this event. But Chris Froome he wants to get himself on the podium.

:00:57. > :01:03.At the moment I think he has a significant buffer there, he is

:01:03. > :01:06.going to manage that, so the medals will be decided among the three and

:01:06. > :01:10.at the moment, it looks like a distinct and sizeable gap between

:01:10. > :01:16.them. That is likely to be the order we see them come across the

:01:16. > :01:22.finish line and stand on the podium. The nearest challenge to Froome

:01:22. > :01:26.Chavanel, and he was 18 seconds slower, and then Cancellara was a

:01:26. > :01:31.bit slower than that, so it looks as though it will be Chavanel that

:01:31. > :01:36.could be the nearest challenger to him. Chavanel was 20 seconds at the

:01:36. > :01:42.last time check. He has come back massively, massively through this

:01:42. > :01:46.last ten kilometre mark. Chavanel then, we still with still

:01:46. > :01:49.power in the tank. Froome will have to be on his best. I am not sure we

:01:49. > :01:53.need to check that. He has gone from being two-and-a-half minute

:01:53. > :01:58.back, to one minute back, he is coming forward at a tremendous rate,

:01:58. > :02:01.if that is the case. I think that could be a technical error. Let us

:02:01. > :02:07.hope Froome has something in the tank. This man looks as though he

:02:07. > :02:11.is full to the top. That is Wiggins. He doesn't need to dig feep for

:02:11. > :02:15.anything more. He is fluid. So impressive. Flying along here, he

:02:15. > :02:23.has wings on his wheels has Bradley Wiggins as he knows he has this

:02:23. > :02:29.gold medal now, in front of him, waiting for him. Kingston ahead of

:02:29. > :02:32.him and the River Thames on the left. He hasn't got time to admire

:02:32. > :02:36.this scenic location, he just has one thing on his mind, and that is

:02:36. > :02:40.of course to be on the top position of the podium. You have the

:02:40. > :02:45.positions confirmed there then, through that 30 kilometre split. It

:02:45. > :02:52.was Wiggins leading by 22 seconds from Tony Martin and bronze medal

:02:53. > :02:56.being held by Chris Froome on 35 minutes, 25 seconds. We missed a

:02:56. > :03:02.shot of Martin, he was driving it through the corner, pushing it

:03:02. > :03:07.right to the edge of the barriers, and, well, he needs do that if he

:03:07. > :03:13.wants to catch Bradley Wiggins. Wiggins has enough room to not take

:03:13. > :03:17.desperate risks, he has to stay safe. Don't overcook it, we have

:03:17. > :03:21.that gold medal within his sights. This is Michael Rogers of Australia.

:03:21. > :03:25.Rogers now, with a finishing line in his sights, it will be a

:03:25. > :03:32.respectable time for Roger, the leader is still Castroviejo of

:03:32. > :03:37.Spain, on 53.29. He will go ahead of him. 50 metres to go. He will be

:03:37. > :03:44.the new leader. Good ride then by Michael Rogers the triple World

:03:44. > :03:48.Champion. Rogers goes into the lead. 52 minutes 51. Castroviejo slips

:03:48. > :03:53.down into second on 53.29. These the men we are waiting for and

:03:53. > :03:57.particularly Bradley Wiggins. Just coming up to Kingston bridge here,

:03:57. > :04:01.Bradley Wiggins out of the saddle momentarily, just stretching a bit,

:04:01. > :04:06.when you are locked into that position, the fatigue in the bottom

:04:06. > :04:11.of the back builds up. He has done a lot of training to,cope with that.

:04:11. > :04:15.Showing he can do it, state stay in that position, just a few weeks ago

:04:15. > :04:18.in the Tour de France, to where he effectively won that race in the

:04:18. > :04:22.final time trial. It was his last test as we come back to Chris

:04:22. > :04:27.Froome, the second best rider on that occasion, who is also heading

:04:27. > :04:32.for a podium spot here if he keeps it together. The man splitting them

:04:32. > :04:37.apart, Tony Martin of Germany, the classy time triallist, the world

:04:37. > :04:42.time trial champion at the moment. She powering his way to the finish.

:04:42. > :04:48.So Tony Martin, a World Champion from Copenhagen last year, as I

:04:48. > :04:53.mentionederier in commentary, had a very big winning cushion of 1

:04:53. > :04:59.minute 15 seconds over Wiggins. Cancellara third on that occasion.

:04:59. > :05:03.There is the confirmation of that position at 29.9 kilometres,

:05:03. > :05:08.comfortably in the lead is Bradley Wiggins, but it is all about his

:05:08. > :05:14.concluding 14 kilometres now. Back to Wiggins as we previously saw

:05:14. > :05:20.Froome. Bradley Wiggins eating up the kilometres now, moving closer

:05:21. > :05:27.and closer to that Olympic gold medal, in his home town of London.

:05:27. > :05:30.Moving into sporting immortality as we see the finishing effort here of

:05:30. > :05:35.Bert Grabsch. This is Grabsch coming in. The 37-year-old German,

:05:35. > :05:40.a former World Champion, not going to beat Michael Rogers, he goes

:05:41. > :05:45.second at the moment. The first four are Rogers, from Grabsch, from

:05:45. > :05:49.Castroviejo and Brajkovic of Slovenia, as we come back again to

:05:50. > :05:55.Bradley Wiggins, the crowd giving him tremendous support here. Look

:05:55. > :06:03.at this, lined all the way. Absolutely all the way two or three

:06:03. > :06:09.deep over the whole of this circuit. Flags waving, he has tremendous

:06:09. > :06:14.support as we come back again to the World Champion Tony Martin.

:06:14. > :06:17.Strange style he looks perched almost on that saddle. It is

:06:17. > :06:21.curious, it has changed a little since the World Championship as

:06:21. > :06:25.well. Cancellara carrying the injuries, had to abandon the Tour

:06:25. > :06:32.de France half way through, decided to go home and see the birth of his

:06:32. > :06:37.child there. 500 meeters to go then for Chris Froome. The leading time

:06:37. > :06:42.is 52 metre -- my opinions. As Froome takes the right-hander.

:06:42. > :06:46.Cautious Chris. He is cautious and he lines up now for the run, a bit

:06:46. > :06:50.of a sprint, as he can see the line ahead. He knows he's is in with a

:06:50. > :06:54.serious chance of a medal. This is Chris Froome, now taking the left-

:06:54. > :07:02.hander, and the crowd are roaring him on, the line is getting ever

:07:02. > :07:08.nearer, the time the beat, 52 minutes 51. Here comes Froome. The

:07:08. > :07:14.runner up in the Tour de France goes into the lead. His finishing

:07:14. > :07:19.team 51.57. Chris Froome is leading the time trial. An average speed of

:07:19. > :07:23.nearly 51 kilometres an hour, that is incredibly fast on these London

:07:23. > :07:26.roads. 12 technical bends to negotiate, a rolling course, that

:07:26. > :07:32.really is a strong time. I think only Martin and Wiggins are going

:07:32. > :07:38.to top it today. You are right. Here is Fabian Cancellara and we

:07:38. > :07:42.switch back to the World Champion Tony Martin. Eating up the

:07:42. > :07:46.concludingkphs of the this test against the clock. We can't match

:07:46. > :07:50.the rung time against wi, but Martin was trailing Wiggins by 22

:07:50. > :07:53.second, at the 29 kilometre point. There we are. It is all over for

:07:53. > :07:58.Chris Froome. He just needs to look at the big screen now, and he

:07:58. > :08:02.wonders if it is going to be silver or bronze for Martin. For Chris

:08:03. > :08:07.Froome I should say. This is the only person that can deprive him on

:08:07. > :08:11.that podium spot. Him and Chavanel if the checks prove to be correct,

:08:11. > :08:14.but I think Cancellara is going to have to fight another day. Hasn't

:08:14. > :08:18.had the ideal build up to this race, and I think he is out of the

:08:18. > :08:21.running and it is very rare we see that for the Swiss rider. I don't

:08:21. > :08:25.think the crash helped him in the road race, overrunning that corner

:08:25. > :08:30.and colliding with the barrier, but his hasn't been quite the time

:08:30. > :08:35.trialler he used to be since last year when he was forced down into

:08:35. > :08:40.third spot. He had a crash there but he lost that fluid style. A man

:08:40. > :08:44.who hasn't lost any fluidity at all is wigs which, look at this. He is

:08:45. > :08:49.poetry in potion. -- motion, he sits there and spins that gear

:08:49. > :08:53.effortlessly. Of all the riders we have seen, nobody is as smooth as

:08:53. > :08:58.Bradley Wiggins, his body hardly move, his style is so efficient. I

:08:58. > :09:03.must admit I am stood next to him when he has been warming up and you

:09:03. > :09:07.here the noise change as he starts to accelerate to do a sprint for

:09:07. > :09:15.warm up and you can, you can't see any change in his body movement at

:09:15. > :09:18.all. So, you can see Wiggins is coming in fantastically quickly to

:09:18. > :09:23.this finish. Tony Martin, Tony Martin is doing a solid ride here,

:09:23. > :09:29.he was unknown coming into this race, Michael Rogers takes his

:09:29. > :09:36.place in the holding pen there, on those fantastic seats. Billy No

:09:36. > :09:42.Mates at the moment! He will get some company. Here is Pinotti. He

:09:42. > :09:48.comes in and goes second in 52.69. Just over a minute shy of Froome.

:09:48. > :09:52.He has pushed Rogers down into third. We are waiting for the

:09:52. > :09:55.arrival now of Phinney, Martin, Wiggins and Cancellara. Phinney

:09:55. > :10:03.hasn't delivered the way we thought he would, but this man certainly

:10:03. > :10:09.has. Well, Chavanel has just come in with a finishing time of 56, so

:10:09. > :10:13.I think we can confirm that was a problem with timing, two ride irs

:10:13. > :10:18.cross the timing strip at the same time sometimes it confuses the

:10:18. > :10:22.Copts, that makes more sense to me. Cancellara is up there, as the top

:10:23. > :10:27.four on this, in this race at the moment. Is that Phinney ahead if it

:10:27. > :10:30.is it means that Tony Martin is going to catch Phinney for one-and-

:10:30. > :10:34.a-half minutes and that could help him in the closing stages here,

:10:34. > :10:38.because that could make him go even quicker in the approach to the line,

:10:38. > :10:42.and we are not far away from the finish now. We can see it is a head

:10:42. > :10:48.wind down here, we can see from the flag, Tony Martin choosing to go

:10:48. > :10:51.down the middle of the road here, just locked in concentration,

:10:51. > :10:56.Phinney fantastic motivation for him, the American went out very

:10:56. > :11:01.quick at the start, and thought he was in contention, what he has done

:11:01. > :11:05.is drive too quickly at as Bradley Wiggins turns into the park.

:11:05. > :11:10.kilometres to go for Bradley Wiggins. Is it going to be gold

:11:10. > :11:15.four for Wiggins and is it going to be the seventh medal for him?

:11:15. > :11:21.think he can see Tony Martin down the road what a massive incentive.

:11:21. > :11:25.It would be. One-and-a-half minutes Martin start ahead of wigs. Here is

:11:25. > :11:29.Cancellara, not his day today. Cancellara has had a sensational

:11:29. > :11:34.career as a time trialler, as we come back to Tony Martin. Look at

:11:34. > :11:38.the crowd. I thought he was going to go on the grass there for a

:11:38. > :11:44.moment. Martin goes well, these are the concluding stages of the men's

:11:44. > :11:49.time trial. Froome is leading. 51.47. Pinotti second, Michael

:11:49. > :11:55.Rogers third. But that is all going to change, believe me. Froome is

:11:55. > :11:58.going to get squeezed down, but he could still hang on to the bronze

:11:58. > :12:02.medal position. The finish is nearly here for Bradley Wiggins,

:12:02. > :12:07.the winner of the Tour de France, as he ploughs his way through, the

:12:07. > :12:11.corridor of faces here, to the cacophony of applause, Wiggins on a

:12:11. > :12:14.gold medal winning ride here as we come back to Tony Martin as he

:12:14. > :12:20.takes the right-hander and he is now almost at the end of his test

:12:20. > :12:25.against the clock. 300 metres to gore Martin. We saw Bradley Wiggins

:12:25. > :12:30.coming under the kilometre mark which means he's is 700 metres

:12:30. > :12:34.behind the German, 700 metres away from the man who is he is going to

:12:34. > :12:38.take the gold medal from. Good finish from Phinney. Here comes

:12:38. > :12:43.Tony Martin now, driving for the line. Martin Finnishs now, and let

:12:43. > :12:47.us have a look at thatment good ride by Martin, 51.21. He is in the

:12:48. > :12:53.gold medal position, Chris Froome is in silver, and Taylor Phinney is

:12:53. > :12:56.lying in the third position, on 52.38. Which are waiting for the

:12:56. > :13:00.arrival of Bradley Wiggins, who comes up to take the right-hander

:13:00. > :13:04.now. And it is looking very much to me as though Taylor Phinney is

:13:04. > :13:08.going to get pushed down to fourth. That would be the same finishing

:13:08. > :13:12.position as he achieved in the road race, here comes Wiggins now,

:13:12. > :13:16.Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the Tour de France, the holder of three

:13:16. > :13:20.gold medals, in the Olympic Games, he has got six medals to his credit

:13:20. > :13:24.and it is looking like it is going to be gold today. Here comes

:13:24. > :13:29.Bradley Wiggins up to the line. Have a look at the time. Here he

:13:29. > :13:34.comes, Wiggins goes into the lead. 50 mince and 39. This is going to

:13:34. > :13:39.be a golden gold ride for Wiggins. Cancellara cannot deny Wiggins the

:13:39. > :13:45.Vicly the and the crowd are already going ballistic. Bradley Wiggins

:13:45. > :13:52.has crossed the line to go into the lead, 50 minutes and 39 seconds,

:13:52. > :13:58.Martins second. 51 minutes 21 and Chris Froome lying third. 51 and 47.

:13:58. > :14:03.One more man to come in. Fabian Cancellara the defending Olympic

:14:03. > :14:07.champion, as they circle and wind down at the back. Martin, Phinney

:14:07. > :14:12.and Wiggins, what a ride that has been. I am not sure that Bradley

:14:12. > :14:18.Wiggins has achieved here. He knows Cancellara has still to come in. We

:14:18. > :14:22.know that nobody is going to topple him here has taken that Olympic

:14:22. > :14:27.title in London. He is free- wheeling back, we wait for the

:14:27. > :14:32.arrival of dance ar -- Cancellara. He doesn't look out of breath. He

:14:32. > :14:37.is going to take a drink, a a couple of quick comments as we wait

:14:37. > :14:41.for the arrival of Cancellara. And Wiggins now can rest, and that gold

:14:41. > :14:45.medal is his, well, there is Tony Martin, that is the effort that has

:14:45. > :14:49.been taken out of the German, who is going to get the Silver Medal.

:14:49. > :14:54.Chris Froome the bronze, and we are waiting for news on Fabian

:14:54. > :14:57.Cancellara. He is more than two kilometres, remember, behind

:14:57. > :15:01.Bradley Wiggins, because he started one-and-a-half minutes behind him,

:15:01. > :15:04.and he is also lost time. There is Chris Froome, at the moment,

:15:04. > :15:08.sitting in the bronze medal position, Bradley Wiggins hasn't

:15:08. > :15:14.joined him, and neither has Tony Martin, they are just here relaxing,

:15:14. > :15:20.and getting their energy back. So, Cancellara will be just taking the

:15:20. > :15:26.turns now, to line up for the run to the line, as Wiggins is glailted.

:15:26. > :15:29.It was an incredible ride -- congratulated, it was an incredible

:15:29. > :15:33.ride by Wiggins and three gold medals to his credit, three in the

:15:33. > :15:43.pursuit and one in the team pursuit. He doesn't look out of breath to me

:15:43. > :15:50.

:15:50. > :15:55.moment by something. It is a very emotional time. He has given up an

:15:55. > :16:00.awful lot for this and he does not want to take any chances. He just

:16:00. > :16:04.does not dare believe it until everybody is over the line. He has

:16:04. > :16:14.not started celebrating, but he made do when this man crosses the

:16:14. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :16:25.line. I think he said, have I got the best time? He is not sure. He

:16:25. > :16:32.is going to go ballistic with celebration. There he is relaxing,

:16:32. > :16:40.leaning against the fence, waiting for their news. This is Fabian

:16:40. > :16:46.Cancellara, but it is all in vain. Here he comes. You can see his

:16:47. > :16:54.running time. It will be a huge ovation because he is such a

:16:54. > :17:03.popular athlete. There it is, the final run to the line. He is the

:17:03. > :17:10.concluding athlete in the time- trial. He is getting an ovation,

:17:10. > :17:19.but he could be three minutes off the pace. He is sprinting for the

:17:19. > :17:25.line-out. He finishes the day in 7th position. Bradley Wiggins is

:17:25. > :17:31.the Olympic champion. It is his 4th gold medal and the 7th medal in the

:17:31. > :17:37.Olympic Games will stop he is the greatest British achieve for of all

:17:37. > :17:45.times when it comes to medals won by a Olympians. He embraces Tony

:17:45. > :17:50.Martin the world champion. Bradley Wiggins, the gold medal, Tony

:17:50. > :17:54.Martin gets the silver and Christopher Froome gets the bronze.

:17:54. > :18:02.What a polished performance by a man who is in the form of his life.

:18:02. > :18:06.Yes. There is Christopher Froome all on his own. And that is the

:18:06. > :18:13.effort. He is clutching that injured shoulder. He has obviously

:18:13. > :18:18.been in a lot of pain. He wanted to write this, it was an opportunity

:18:18. > :18:24.and a great course for him. But his build up was not that great and it

:18:24. > :18:28.was topped off by that uncharacteristic crash.

:18:28. > :18:35.trademark sideburns as he gives a wave to the crowd. His Olympic

:18:35. > :18:41.tally now becomes 7th. He has won more medals than any other British

:18:41. > :18:46.competitor in the history of the Olympic Games. Four gold medals,

:18:46. > :18:51.one silver and two bronze. It all started off in 2000 when he won a

:18:51. > :18:58.bronze in the team pursuit. He has had a silver in the team pursuit

:18:58. > :19:05.and four gold medals. I would like to say he becomes the second man to

:19:05. > :19:11.win a medal in this individual time-trial. Chris Boardman got a

:19:11. > :19:20.bronze back in 1996 in Atlanta. There we are, Bradley, it is made

:19:20. > :19:26.for you. Unprecedented, the greatest British cyclist ever. I

:19:26. > :19:32.have no hesitation in saying that. Definitely one of the greatest

:19:32. > :19:36.British sports people ever. could not agree more a. He has won

:19:36. > :19:41.the ultimate challenge on the planet, the Tour de France. Is

:19:41. > :19:47.there anything he cannot win? He surely must be given every accolade

:19:47. > :19:53.in the book. This year has been the year for Bradley Wiggins. Look at

:19:53. > :19:58.the crowd and they love it. And what a character. What about his

:19:58. > :20:08.speech when he won the Tour de France. I am going to draw the

:20:08. > :20:15.

:20:15. > :20:21.raffle ticket now! Tim Kerrison is one of the instrumental coaches who

:20:21. > :20:28.helped him. He is taking time to say hello to everybody, enjoying

:20:28. > :20:36.this moment. Yes, wonderful scenes and he looks so relax. Who is he

:20:37. > :20:43.looking for? His wife could be here and his children. 50 minutes and 39

:20:43. > :20:53.seconds, a winning margin of 42 seconds. Let's listen to the roar

:20:53. > :20:57.

:20:58. > :21:03.of the fans. He is still searching for somebody. Is it his family?

:21:03. > :21:10.They are all coming up to the podium area to received this man.

:21:10. > :21:18.Has he found them? Who is he looking for? They are all autograph

:21:19. > :21:28.hunting. He is looking for his family. What a ride, fantastic,

:21:28. > :21:36.unbelievable stuff. He runs races on the track. He won the European

:21:36. > :21:45.Championship, he was a world junior champion in the 90s. We go back to

:21:45. > :21:51.Fabian Cancellara who is clearly in a lot of distress. But, Bradley,

:21:51. > :21:56.what a rider you are. You have given us some moments and you have

:21:56. > :22:05.added another memorable occasion to them here. He arrives back to where

:22:05. > :22:10.he started from originally 44 kilometres ago. And in this

:22:10. > :22:15.glorious setting here. I am pleased to say that the weather is shining

:22:15. > :22:23.brightly and that is exactly what we want for the medal presentation.

:22:23. > :22:33.Is this is why? Yes, it is. At least I hope so. His children are

:22:33. > :22:39.

:22:39. > :22:43.there as well. A terrific family moment for him. It is a very

:22:43. > :22:53.emotional time for the children as well. They are not quite sure what

:22:53. > :22:55.

:22:55. > :23:01.is going on. In a few years' time they will look back on this. There

:23:01. > :23:07.is Chris Froome. Let's not forget Chris Froome. He is like a nearly

:23:07. > :23:12.man. But what a rider. I am sure he will get his day. With that quality

:23:12. > :23:20.he will have the opportunity in the future. But not this year. This

:23:20. > :23:30.year belongs to Bradley Wiggins. Those are tell-tale signs of the

:23:30. > :23:32.

:23:32. > :23:37.crash of Fabian Cancellara. I think I want to grow my serve up --

:23:37. > :23:47.sideburns again. Some people have stick-on sideburns, actually. I

:23:47. > :23:52.

:23:52. > :23:56.hope he has patented them! Luckily they fit underneath the Helmut! I

:23:56. > :24:00.think it is going to take us a long time in the sport of cycling to

:24:01. > :24:05.realise what exactly has happened over the past month with the Tour

:24:05. > :24:10.de France and the multiple stage wins and to win the Olympic gold

:24:10. > :24:14.medal in the time-trial as well. All of these things together are

:24:14. > :24:21.going to change the face of the sport in this country and hopefully

:24:21. > :24:31.popularise it as a simple mode of transport as well. Already it is

:24:31. > :24:33.

:24:33. > :24:43.being reflected with over 50,000... Here are a few images for you of

:24:43. > :24:48.Bradley Wiggins. Look at these wonderful scenes.

:24:48. > :24:54.Congratulations, Bradley Wiggins, Olympic champion in the men's time

:24:54. > :25:02.trial. We asked the question if a gold medal would be like a London

:25:03. > :25:12.bus. And so it proved, you get two at once. A gold medal in the rowing

:25:13. > :25:13.

:25:13. > :25:19.this morning. What an apt time for that time trial to finish. Bradley

:25:19. > :25:25.Wiggins is truly a part of Olympic royalty now. Tony Martin is the

:25:25. > :25:30.world time-trial champion. It was only last year that Tony Martin

:25:30. > :25:36.beat Bradley Wiggins. We must say congratulations to Chris Froome,

:25:36. > :25:40.his first Olympic Games. A bronze medal in the time-trial. This is

:25:40. > :25:45.what it means as far as the most successful British athletes are

:25:45. > :25:54.concerned. Steve is there because he has won the most number of gold

:25:54. > :26:01.medals, but Bradley Wiggins is in second. Two medals in 2008 and

:26:01. > :26:11.three in 2004. Also a bronze medal in the year 2000 as well. Keep your

:26:11. > :26:12.

:26:12. > :26:17.eyes on Christopher Hoy. He could Truly remarkable scenes. It was

:26:17. > :26:22.also pretty special at the Olympic Park as well. This is what happens

:26:23. > :26:27.when the victory was confirmed for Bradley Wiggins. This is it, it is

:26:27. > :26:33.official. He has won himself a gold and everybody here is having the

:26:33. > :26:40.time of their lives. Everybody has been waiting to see Bradley

:26:40. > :26:46.confirmed as that gold winner. Did you see that? Yes, we did. Are you

:26:46. > :26:51.big fans? Very much so. What did you think of that? Absolutely

:26:51. > :27:00.fantastic, it will be good for British cycling. Did you think this

:27:00. > :27:06.many people would come to see cycling? No, not at all, but I am

:27:06. > :27:09.glad they have come. Have you come to see many things? Will have got

:27:09. > :27:16.tickets for the swimming tonight. Everybody says I should grow

:27:16. > :27:23.sideburns. Is that a good idea? think they will suit you. Some nice

:27:23. > :27:30.red ones will suit you. Like Phillips Idowu were. I think it is

:27:30. > :27:38.best that we leave it there. Stop it. Everybody is having a fantastic

:27:38. > :27:41.time. More medals for Team GB. I think that sums up the incredible

:27:41. > :27:47.atmosphere in the Olympic Park as news about these gold medals

:27:47. > :27:52.filters through. It may have been away from the park, but it does not

:27:52. > :27:56.mean that people here are unaware of what is happening. Joe Douglas

:27:56. > :28:02.is at Hampton court now. You have followed Bradley's Korea for so

:28:02. > :28:08.many years, and what a special day for you. It is a special day for

:28:08. > :28:12.everybody, but particularly for everybody on the course. Obviously

:28:12. > :28:17.it is a privilege to ask the questions, but for the fans on the

:28:17. > :28:23.road, this is for them and for that team and for all the people who

:28:23. > :28:26.have worked so hard. And he was here at the finish to see his

:28:26. > :28:31.children and his wife and to see them celebrating with Ms is

:28:31. > :28:36.remarkable. He has built up through the spring all those wonderful

:28:36. > :28:41.successes in the lead-up to the Tour de France. 10 days ago he it

:28:41. > :28:47.was on the top step off the podium in Paris and here he is 10 days

:28:47. > :28:51.later, one of our most decorated athletes in the Olympics. It is

:28:51. > :28:56.also worth mentioning the bridesmaid. Chris Froome has been

:28:56. > :29:01.the bridesmaid for most of the summer, but this has been a

:29:01. > :29:06.fantastic Olympic experience for him. Of course and he is a man we

:29:06. > :29:10.will see a lot of in the coming years. Also at Tony Martin coming

:29:10. > :29:17.here off the back of injuries and he has come away with a silver

:29:17. > :29:23.medal. And Fabian Cancellara, what a champion. He is just rolling in.

:29:23. > :29:28.He has come here to defend his Olympic title despite a huge crash

:29:28. > :29:34.in the spring. He broke his collarbone. He came back and

:29:34. > :29:41.crashed here during the Olympic road race. Now he has come back to

:29:41. > :29:46.defend that. He is a wonderful champion. Well done Fabian

:29:46. > :29:52.Cancellara. Enjoy the sunshine and the moment. This is what it means

:29:52. > :30:02.for the medal table as part as Great Britain are concerned. It has

:30:02. > :30:15.

:30:15. > :30:24.In 1996 a certain man won a bronze medal in the time-trial and that

:30:24. > :30:28.was Chris Boardman. Chris, your emotions watching. Something of a

:30:28. > :30:33.continuation from the Tour de France. A certain amount of stunned

:30:34. > :30:37.shock. It is so big what is happening now. It would take us a

:30:37. > :30:41.long time to realise the implications and what it means. It

:30:41. > :30:45.was a sight I thought I would never see, a British rider winning the

:30:45. > :30:55.Tour de France and then riding in the streets of London to win a gold

:30:55. > :30:57.

:30:57. > :31:04.At the end, that wonderful shot of him almost not out of breath, he

:31:04. > :31:08.makes it look so easy. Style, yes, but easy, no. What you see is an

:31:08. > :31:12.incredibly efficient athlete. Endurance athletes have always been

:31:12. > :31:17.the same, in a sense, in so far as they recover incredibly quickly.

:31:17. > :31:21.Sprinters, just coming off the track, they will still be breathing

:31:21. > :31:25.hard for 10 minutes. But Bradley has just done more than 3,000

:31:25. > :31:32.kilometres in France, so riding around London for an hour, he can

:31:32. > :31:38.cope with that. You have followed Froome all over the place as well,

:31:38. > :31:42.what about him? He is a man for the future, a contender for the Tour

:31:42. > :31:47.the France, no doubt about it. This is not used to rain, he would much

:31:47. > :31:51.prefer Healy course. But he is so strong at the moment, they finished

:31:51. > :31:59.in a deserving order, I would say. I have no doubt that Chris Froome

:31:59. > :32:03.will have his day. Poor old Sanchez, it goes to show how much are these

:32:03. > :32:07.guys are on the edge all the time, with all the problems that he had.

:32:07. > :32:13.These things do happen, and it is a technical sport, as we were talking

:32:13. > :32:17.about yesterday. But what a shame. This guy was in superb form, and to

:32:17. > :32:22.break your chain - it happens very rarely, I think it happened to me

:32:22. > :32:26.once in my entire career. For that to happen on the start line of the

:32:26. > :32:30.Tour de France, and even then, he tried to get on with it. It took

:32:30. > :32:37.his team by surprise as well, you do not expect mechanical problems

:32:37. > :32:41.in the first two metres. After that puncture as well, it was all over.

:32:41. > :32:45.From this beautiful picture, tomorrow, you're going to be in an

:32:45. > :32:49.equally lovely place, in the velodrome, and of course, this man,

:32:49. > :32:53.Bradley Wiggins, has moved away from the velodrome to focus on the

:32:54. > :33:02.road, but we could be talking about more cycling history there, could

:33:02. > :33:07.we not? To see Chris Hoy, if he could get another gold medal, that

:33:07. > :33:11.would be fantastic. But we have got both men's and women's team sprint

:33:11. > :33:16.tomorrow, which will be fantastic, and also the start of the team

:33:16. > :33:21.pursuit, where I think possibly, we might see a world record.

:33:21. > :33:26.remember cycling up Box Hill with you before the Games even started,

:33:26. > :33:31.and I ask you how it compared with days gone by, and you said, in the

:33:31. > :33:35.early 1990s, you were just about it this far was cycling was concerned

:33:35. > :33:40.- how does it compare these days? The scale of it has increased

:33:40. > :33:44.dramatically. It was just a small group of people, including myself,

:33:44. > :33:49.at UK Sport. But now, the strength in depth of UK cycling is

:33:49. > :33:52.incredible. There is a huge fight just to get into one of the teams

:33:52. > :33:57.for the Olympic Games, which shows it is not just the talent that we

:33:57. > :34:01.have already got, there's more behind it as well. Some clever a

:34:01. > :34:06.member of the crowd had a very clever sign there. Very sharp

:34:07. > :34:11.indeed. We will be back for the medal ceremony. Now, time to join

:34:11. > :34:15.Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, who is also down at Hampton court. She is

:34:15. > :34:20.with Nicole Cooke, who picked up a medal in Beijing four years ago.

:34:20. > :34:23.What a moment... It has been amazing. As the guys went through

:34:23. > :34:27.the time checks there was a huge cheer, but nothing compared to what

:34:27. > :34:32.it was like when Brad Wiggins crossed the finishing line. It has

:34:32. > :34:38.been an amazing day. Yes, the Men's Time Trial had everything. There

:34:38. > :34:43.was the drama at the start, Sanchez breaking his chain, then the

:34:43. > :34:48.tension just went through the roof, as we were going through the time

:34:48. > :34:51.checks, and it looked like there was a serious chance of both Chris

:34:51. > :34:59.Froome and Bradley getting into the top three. And then when it

:34:59. > :35:05.actually happened, it was incredible. I think the atmosphere

:35:05. > :35:08.here has just been incredible, and for me, it just that sets the team

:35:08. > :35:18.off - what do you think the atmosphere will be like back in the

:35:18. > :35:20.

:35:21. > :35:24.village? Oh, everyone has been waiting for a day like today. There

:35:24. > :35:28.has been a lot of anticipation. Yesterday, everyone was talking

:35:28. > :35:34.about what might happen. I'm sure from now on, it will just take off.

:35:34. > :35:38.You have been on the podium, in Beijing, at the Olympics - what

:35:38. > :35:44.will mean the most to Brad Wiggins, winning the gold medal, or becoming

:35:44. > :35:50.the best Olympian ever? I think the way he won this muddle today, it

:35:50. > :35:58.was an individual gold, he did it by himself, on the bike, I think

:35:58. > :36:02.that will mean a lot to him. But when he reflects on everything he

:36:02. > :36:07.has achieved, I'm sure he will be very proud of all of those medals,

:36:07. > :36:14.and everyone will have its own story. Thank you very much. We will

:36:14. > :36:18.let you go and congratulate the boys. And you can see here, Bradley

:36:18. > :36:22.Wiggins, lining up to go and collect that gold medal. Just

:36:23. > :36:30.behind him, Chris Froome, with a well-earned bottle of water. We can

:36:30. > :36:36.hand you back to Chris Boardman and Sue Porter, for the medal ceremony.

:36:36. > :36:43.HUGH PORTER: What a moment this is going to be, the medal ceremony,

:36:43. > :36:47.here at Hampton Court Palace, for the Men's Time Trial. It is going

:36:47. > :36:57.to be a very British affair, with two men standing on the podium to

:36:57. > :36:58.

:36:58. > :37:01.collect their medals. The Mancini going to present the gold medal

:37:01. > :37:09.will be the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee. He

:37:09. > :37:12.was a member of the fencing team in 1976, and he was also a member of a

:37:12. > :37:22.World Championship winning team in the same year, as well as the

:37:22. > :37:25.

:37:25. > :37:28.following year. Bradley Wiggins' voracious appetite for winning

:37:28. > :37:35.medals in the Olympic Games continues. That is his seventh

:37:35. > :37:45.medal, and his fourth gold medal. No other British Olympian has ever

:37:45. > :37:45.

:37:45. > :37:53.won seven medals. He is the ultimate achiever.

:37:53. > :37:59.CHRIS BOARDMAN: It is a real contrast, looking at the scene now,

:37:59. > :38:02.after we have just seen hundreds of thousands of people on the streets.

:38:02. > :38:08.It is difficult to believe that they are going to present the gold

:38:08. > :38:12.medal, and there's nobody there. Well, at the moment, everybody is

:38:12. > :38:22.lining up for the ceremony. It is what we have been talking about for

:38:22. > :38:27.quite some time. We almost feel like we're urging sing everybody.

:38:27. > :38:31.Everybody was saying, barring incident, it was going to be

:38:31. > :38:41.Bradley Wiggins' gold medal. will be back in a few moments, when

:38:41. > :38:41.

:38:41. > :38:51.the medal ceremony is actually about to take place.

:38:51. > :38:55.

:38:55. > :39:05.Let's summarise what has been Bradley Wiggins' stellar year just

:39:05. > :39:10.gets better and better. He wins his seventh Olympic medal. Helen Glover

:39:10. > :39:18.and Heather Stanning created history by winning the first gold

:39:18. > :39:22.medal for the team at London 2012. And Great Britain also took bronze

:39:22. > :39:27.in the Men's Eight in a thrilling race at Eton Dorney. At one point

:39:27. > :39:30.it looked like they might have upset the favourites, Germany. And

:39:30. > :39:38.eight badminton players have been disqualified from the Games fraud

:39:38. > :39:44.not using their best efforts to win. News on that appeal coming up

:39:44. > :39:54.shortly. But right a now, as you can see, the medal ceremony is

:39:54. > :40:02.about to happen. HUGH PORTER: It is a moment to

:40:02. > :40:11.savour. There is the vice-president of the International Olympic

:40:11. > :40:17.Committee. Himself, an achiever, in his time, in fencing, in 1976.

:40:17. > :40:25.Bradley Wiggins, who has once again delivered. The man who will deliver

:40:25. > :40:32.the flowers, the president of the governing body for cycling. It is a

:40:32. > :40:42.glorious setting here, at Hampton court. Magnificent weather for the

:40:42. > :40:47.presentation. The winner of the bronze medal, representing Great

:40:47. > :40:52.Britain, is Chris Froome. Another superb performance by him, the man

:40:52. > :41:02.who was a runner-up in the Tour de France. A tremendous ovation he is

:41:02. > :41:07.

:41:07. > :41:17.receiving. A man I feel sure will be standing on the top spot of the

:41:17. > :41:28.

:41:28. > :41:35.podium within the next few seasons. And the winner of the silver medal,

:41:35. > :41:39.it is the current world champion, Tony Martin, representing Germany.

:41:39. > :41:43.CHRIS BOARDMAN: He looked happy with his performance today. I don't

:41:43. > :41:46.think he thought he was in with a chance of a victory. He was happy

:41:47. > :41:53.with the silver medal, I think, on this occasion, after the issues he

:41:53. > :41:56.has had with broken bones. He rode courageously, but the window of

:41:56. > :42:06.advantage for Wiggins was 42 seconds, and Tony Martin just did

:42:06. > :42:17.

:42:17. > :42:25.The Olympic champion and gold medal-winner, representing Great

:42:25. > :42:30.Britain, Bradley Wiggins! His voracious appetite for Olympic

:42:30. > :42:36.medals continues, and this gold medal is his seventh in the Olympic

:42:36. > :42:45.competition. Nobody in the history of the Olympic Games from Great

:42:45. > :42:50.Britain has earners many medals as Brad Wiggins. Sheer class, Brad

:42:50. > :43:00.Wiggins. Masterclass, the personification of dominance,

:43:00. > :43:02.

:43:02. > :43:12.nobody could compete with him. The crowd chant, Wiggo, and he is

:43:12. > :43:13.

:43:13. > :43:23.conducting them! What a character! Please stand for the national

:43:23. > :43:23.

:43:23. > :44:18.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 95 seconds

:44:18. > :44:21.THE NATIONAL ANTHEM OF GREAT JAKE HUMPHREY: Congratulations to

:44:21. > :44:27.Brad Wiggins and Chris Froome, two tremendous performances from them,

:44:27. > :44:31.and Tony Martin, the world Time Trial champion, also amongst the

:44:31. > :44:36.medals. Sue Barker joins me now. The cheer in the studio here was

:44:36. > :44:39.quite something, wasn't it? It was absolutely fantastic. Great for

:44:39. > :44:43.Brad Wiggins, he is so calm under pressure. Looking at those

:44:43. > :44:47.fantastic scenes, those crowds did not have to buy a ticket for that,

:44:47. > :44:52.but they were part of this whole the Olympic experience. The sun
