:00:41. > :00:45.Welcome back to the glorious Olympic Park. This morning we saw

:00:45. > :00:54.Lutalo Muhammad qualify for taekwondo. Luke Patience and Stuart

:00:54. > :01:00.Bithell got silver in the 470 class. And then Eton Dorney, Ed McKeever

:01:00. > :01:07.is through to the finals. Now our attention goes to Hyde Park with

:01:07. > :01:17.Daniel Fogg in the 10 kilometre open water swim. Let's join our

:01:17. > :01:17.

:01:17. > :02:05.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 48 seconds

:02:06. > :02:12.so far. They have about another 50 mostly in open water. Joining us is

:02:12. > :02:19.another swimmer who has medals both in the pool and the open water,

:02:19. > :02:24.getting a fantastic silver medal in Beijing in the open water and a

:02:24. > :02:33.bronze in the 1,500 in Athens. David Davis. This race is the first

:02:33. > :02:41.time I have seen so many changes of pace. Now the pack is stretched

:02:41. > :02:45.right out and there is a big gap. Daniel Fogg has dropped to 13th in

:02:45. > :02:51.the second lap. I think he struggled with his position. He was

:02:51. > :03:01.on the outside, behind people. In the third lap he got settled in

:03:01. > :03:01.

:03:01. > :03:11.clear water. He is now in touch in 6th place. Now we have seen this

:03:11. > :03:13.

:03:13. > :03:21.amazing burst. Any swimmer at home and watching and once and -- wants

:03:21. > :03:27.to know how to do freestyle, textbook stuff. This is it. Daniel

:03:28. > :03:37.Fogg is still in touch, he is obviously still fighting hard.

:03:37. > :03:47.seems like every time that the pack comes together, David is in its.

:03:47. > :03:51.

:03:51. > :04:01.The German doing a bit of backstroke looking to his work.

:04:01. > :04:05.David, what are you going to do if you are any one else here apart

:04:05. > :04:11.from Lily? Do you try and race to get out there, beat him up a little

:04:11. > :04:20.bit, what do you do? Beating him up is against the rules! But make it

:04:20. > :04:29.difficult for him. And get around him. Only two at the front. If the

:04:29. > :04:35.guys behind thing they could swim up alongside him. One of the other

:04:35. > :04:42.girls are man-marked Keri-Anne Payne yesterday. Eva Risztov did

:04:42. > :04:50.that and then in the latter half she went off and did her stuff. I

:04:50. > :04:55.have massive expectations here. But they cannot let him have his own

:04:55. > :05:02.way coming he is in clear water. He is swimming on his friend's -- on

:05:02. > :05:07.his own at the front, they need to test his tactics. I think what ever

:05:07. > :05:12.he tries, he has something to respond? Obviously we are seeing

:05:12. > :05:18.the pictures, but we don't know how they feel. It is an accumulative

:05:18. > :05:23.thing. They have done three laps and have 2.5 to go. You can always

:05:23. > :05:29.hit the warned that is the danger. You have to get your pacing

:05:29. > :05:33.absolutely right. You need to have the sprint in the last 8,000 metres.

:05:33. > :05:43.If these guys are working hard to stay with the pace, they might be

:05:43. > :05:48.

:05:48. > :05:53.feeling OK now, but they could have over done it. It is a tactical game.

:05:53. > :05:58.In open water you see a pack, they swim round at a reasonable pace

:05:58. > :06:02.most of the time and then there is a race at the end. But we have seen

:06:02. > :06:07.a variable amounts of speed. A lot of people have been flipping onto

:06:07. > :06:14.their backs to see who is worth. You don't really do that too much.

:06:14. > :06:20.There has been a lot of tactical fought going into this race. They

:06:20. > :06:27.can tap each other on the feet and annoy each other. A flock of birds

:06:27. > :06:31.going off to the left. We do not know how much energy this has taken,

:06:31. > :06:36.and the pack in this position. We will have to wait and see what

:06:36. > :06:42.happens. We just need Daniel Fogg in the top five or six. At this

:06:42. > :06:52.point in the women's race, if you look there there are six winners,

:06:52. > :06:53.

:06:53. > :06:58.peeled off just waiting to go quicker. Unique to watch out for

:06:58. > :07:05.the last few kilometres, because the leading two have a bit of a

:07:05. > :07:10.kick. They will put the hammer down. They are all there. The German

:07:10. > :07:14.looks like he is trying to take the pace on himself. He was 10th at the

:07:14. > :07:22.World Championships in Shanghai last year. So qualified

:07:22. > :07:30.automatically for this Olympic 10 kilometre open water swim. Straight

:07:30. > :07:39.ahead of them is the pontoon. It is almost like an obstacle course on a

:07:39. > :07:42.school Sportsday. They want to get it right. It is all about the

:07:43. > :07:52.energy you have got an to conserve it for the end of the race will

:07:53. > :08:09.

:08:09. > :08:16.stop this point is critical. These Swimming Club. It is 20 a year. It

:08:16. > :08:26.you fancy it, come down and have an ice Saturday morning swim. Then

:08:26. > :08:48.

:08:48. > :08:53.there is the Peter Pan race on off. You don't want to be drinking

:08:53. > :08:59.your drink on your back end and somebody gives you a bash with her

:08:59. > :09:06.hand. There was a story about a great swimmer whose coach put out

:09:06. > :09:10.the drinks for his summer and she missed it. He was so annoyed, he

:09:10. > :09:20.pulled the pole back in, took the drink out of the net, and then just

:09:20. > :09:27.through the drink. And then it hit another swimmer. And so the coach's

:09:27. > :09:35.Greeks when there was given a red card and disqualified straight away.

:09:35. > :09:41.Mark Perry, who has done a super job with the British open water

:09:41. > :09:45.swim ing. Just picking up on that, accessibility, the Serpentine Club

:09:45. > :09:50.here, this is a nice location. Where I live, and my friends

:09:50. > :09:59.throughout the country had various Inland Waterways way you can swim.

:09:59. > :10:03.Also the coast. It is active and thriving, coastal swimming. I did

:10:03. > :10:07.my torch relay in Felixstowe and now has invited to swim with them

:10:07. > :10:13.there. It is active, just get on the internet and have a look, find

:10:13. > :10:18.a club. It is not back cold when you work a wetsuit. They do give

:10:18. > :10:23.you a good range of movement. do talk a lot about the legacy of

:10:23. > :10:26.the Olympic Games. I am sure this is one sport that will take off in

:10:26. > :10:36.Britain. We are an island nation and there is plenty of water around

:10:36. > :10:37.

:10:37. > :10:42.us. Lots of events and more coming on every year. Notts of the

:10:42. > :10:49.swimming pool swimmers -- lots of the swimming pools winners are

:10:49. > :10:54.having a go. But the legacy is something London sold itself on,

:10:54. > :10:58.and one of the reasons we one a bit. Several different things will

:10:58. > :11:08.happen. The interesting Negussie, your high school has done well from

:11:08. > :11:08.

:11:08. > :11:14.the Olympics? Yes, my old school I went to in Yorkshire. Both Brownlee

:11:14. > :11:20.brothers went as well. It is a massive sports school, and a great

:11:20. > :11:30.education establishment. It is a place that encourages a mix, the

:11:30. > :11:32.

:11:32. > :11:37.rounded person. I might have been the exception, but they do have

:11:37. > :11:41.some intelligent people as well. The college is taking one of the

:11:41. > :11:46.training pools from the Olympic Park. They are going to dismantle

:11:46. > :11:50.it and put it back together at Kelley College. They will take a

:11:50. > :11:55.new 50-metre pool. And they're working with the local authority

:11:55. > :12:00.and it will be a fantastic opportunity. Schools winning in

:12:00. > :12:04.Britain, school sports in Britain, we have got to get rid of this non-

:12:04. > :12:09.competitive, we cannot have competitive sports! Come on, life

:12:09. > :12:17.is competitive and not having competition in sports in schools is

:12:17. > :12:22.ridiculous. Kelley College is leading the way. There are many

:12:22. > :12:29.places now. This idea of inspiration. As a child you can

:12:29. > :12:34.watch something and get excited by it. Is it something you can do? I

:12:34. > :12:38.think the Olympic Association, Team GB put out a statement yesterday to

:12:38. > :12:42.encourage the Government. So they have had conversations on how to

:12:42. > :12:46.take a catalytic thing, you like the idea of something, put it into

:12:46. > :12:51.practice and make sure the pathways the children who want to do it, not

:12:51. > :12:58.just access it, but take it into clubs, learn techniques and be

:12:58. > :13:08.coached. The school club link is significant. Anyway, back to the

:13:08. > :13:34.

:13:34. > :13:38.race. It is still strong out. -- Ironman competitor and prefers

:13:38. > :13:43.swimming in the seat will stop we did not think he would do well here.

:13:43. > :13:48.But to be in a medal position he will have to be on the front.

:13:48. > :13:52.looks like Andreas watch Burger of Germany is forcing the pace. Going

:13:52. > :14:00.with him is the Canadian without a hat. And still tracking, we are now

:14:00. > :14:09.in third place, I wonder if Millie is taking a rest. Doesn't look

:14:09. > :14:16.quite as smooth as he has done. The bald head of Richard wind Burger,

:14:16. > :14:25.who won the test event. But the German is leading. He is looking

:14:25. > :14:30.pretty good at the moment. Trying to get on his feet is the Canadian.

:14:30. > :14:40.They have to make sure they go through this timing bridge. Four

:14:40. > :14:41.

:14:41. > :14:51.laps done. Two to go and it is a 1.67 kilometres. That is each loop.

:14:51. > :14:51.

:14:51. > :15:01.The German first and the Canadian second. Talking about carrying the

:15:01. > :15:08.torch, the first person to hold the Olympic torch the 2012 was the

:15:08. > :15:18.Greek summer. In Athens, he was the guy who got it and started running.

:15:18. > :15:29.

:15:29. > :15:39.The field is starting to get strung out, and Richard Weinberger it is

:15:39. > :15:39.

:15:39. > :15:45.chasing Waschburger of Germany who is leading.

:15:45. > :15:49.Two laps to go. Yesterday, after the women's race was over, I

:15:49. > :15:57.witnessed something that genuinely made me cry. That was David Carry,

:15:57. > :16:01.due to marry Keri-Anne Payne, finding her, holding her tight, and

:16:01. > :16:11.say the things that somebody who loves you says, when you have

:16:11. > :16:11.

:16:11. > :16:18.It was really touching, you know what she has been through.

:16:18. > :16:25.To do that race, it is so gruelling, emotional. You can see today, it is

:16:25. > :16:34.not just a case of, you have your own space, and you swim along. It

:16:34. > :16:40.is 10k of fighting. I had done it as well. It is so different to the

:16:40. > :16:44.expense I feel when I am swimming, it is totally alien to that. The

:16:44. > :16:50.only similarity I can glean is the feelings that my parents get when

:16:50. > :16:55.they watch me swim, that is what I was feeling for Keri-Anne.

:16:55. > :17:05.wonderful view that he was right there. It was really good to see

:17:05. > :17:11.him, I just needed somebody I didn't needs -- and into feel-bad

:17:11. > :17:18.sobbing. To have someone who would say, don't worry about it, it's

:17:18. > :17:23.still the same, I'm still going to marry you. I have to say, if you

:17:23. > :17:29.had said, I am not going to marry you now! You have the rest of your

:17:29. > :17:36.life to plan together now. This gives you a natural break from

:17:36. > :17:41.swimming. Do you know long turn? Ticking in the back of my head, it

:17:42. > :17:47.is the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, it is such a draw, I love competing

:17:47. > :17:52.for Scotland. It seems really good. I have also got other things to

:17:52. > :17:58.think about. General life to get on with, enjoys spending time with

:17:58. > :18:05.Keri-Anne. What I want to do now is enjoy the Olympics, it's not

:18:05. > :18:10.something you get very often. To experience it as a sports fan. To

:18:10. > :18:16.be part of this incredible event. It epitomises the whole Olympic

:18:16. > :18:23.spirit, seeing so many happy people, families coming together. Keri-Anne,

:18:23. > :18:28.you have done so much to promote swimming amongst youngsters. And

:18:28. > :18:33.you're broadcasting is top class. We don't really know what is going

:18:33. > :18:41.to happen, no one can make a decision until we see where things

:18:41. > :18:48.are going, the World Championships. At the moment, I am looking forward

:18:48. > :18:51.to training, after a break, the wedding. We have lots to look

:18:51. > :19:01.forward to before making any decision. Have a wonderful wedding,

:19:01. > :19:16.

:19:16. > :19:21.bring that pace up. That is a faster speed than before. We think

:19:21. > :19:27.this stringing out will be definitive. Some of the guys in the

:19:27. > :19:31.middle will be working very hard to stay on the pace. The question is,

:19:31. > :19:39.of the leading five, are they prepared to keep it going to break

:19:39. > :19:45.away. Once the break away starts, there are three medals for grabs,

:19:45. > :19:52.it gets interesting. What is fascinating is Waschburger of

:19:52. > :19:57.Germany, 25, doesn't have form in open water. He was 10th in the

:19:57. > :20:07.World Championships. He doesn't have a string of medals on the

:20:07. > :20:08.

:20:08. > :20:18.world circuit. European Chadli ships, 17 in the 10k. -- European

:20:18. > :20:26.

:20:26. > :20:30.Championships. 10k, what makes you want to do that? Medals! There is

:20:30. > :20:40.one lady, I do think she has tried to do the seven great crossings

:20:40. > :20:42.

:20:42. > :20:49.around the world, something amazing. They are starting to string out.

:20:49. > :20:54.There was a pack of seven bunched together. Waschburger of Germany is

:20:54. > :21:00.pushing the pace. He is around first. Mellouli was looking a bit

:21:00. > :21:06.ragged, but he is back to looking fairly comfortable. If they string

:21:06. > :21:14.it out, going one by one, two metres per person, you could find

:21:14. > :21:20.yourself an awful long way back. Dan Fogg, two thirds of the way

:21:20. > :21:30.down the pack, he found this lap difficult. Mellouli, to the left,

:21:30. > :21:35.

:21:35. > :21:41.he has to start -- he has decided to take the lead. Thomas Lurz there.

:21:41. > :21:46.I got the impression then that Mellouli will be making a little

:21:46. > :21:56.burst. Spyridou Gianniotis is also there, some of the great names, in

:21:56. > :22:20.

:22:20. > :22:26.the leading group. This goes at a metres to go. It is about half an

:22:26. > :22:32.hour of swimming still to go, probably slightly more. Still, it

:22:32. > :22:38.is an awful long way. If you think of the whole 10k race, they're

:22:38. > :22:43.coming to the end of it, past three quarters. There is a massive

:22:43. > :22:53.overhead camera which runs almost the full length of the Serpentine,

:22:53. > :22:54.

:22:54. > :22:59.extraordinary. Mellouli, he has covered that break. Now taking over.

:22:59. > :23:08.Is that the last we have seen of Waschburger. He got caught going

:23:08. > :23:13.around the buoy. That looks like Thomas Lurz. David? I was really

:23:13. > :23:19.surprised with Waschburger. We have not talked about him much. He put a

:23:19. > :23:23.big break on in the last two laps. I don't know whether he did that to

:23:23. > :23:33.help Thomas Lurz, it has spread this pack out, a long line of

:23:33. > :23:36.

:23:36. > :23:43.swimmers. In the instant areas, the buoys and feeding stations --

:23:43. > :23:49.incident areas. We saw pictures of Dan Fogg, looking up an awful lot

:23:49. > :23:56.more. That is a sign of feeling tired or, failing to respond to the

:23:56. > :24:05.pace. Your body keeps looking up, where am I going? Disorientation.

:24:05. > :24:14.Maybe he is finding it difficult. He dropped from six, to 22, at the

:24:14. > :24:21.last time check. The Russian, disqualified in the Olympic Games,

:24:21. > :24:31.he has qualified here. He was at 10th at the last time check,

:24:31. > :24:32.

:24:32. > :24:40.someone still to watch out for. This last lap will be exciting.

:24:40. > :24:45.Thank you, David, maybe 150 metres. It has started to become very

:24:46. > :24:52.important, the feeding station. Mellouli is trying to break again,

:24:52. > :24:57.every time he has done it, they have strong out. When he tries to

:24:57. > :25:04.apply the pressure, they cannot live with him. But, one person,

:25:04. > :25:08.every single time, he continues to track him, Thomas Lurz. The three

:25:08. > :25:18.of us were having a chat half an hour before this, and talking about

:25:18. > :25:25.

:25:26. > :25:35.the editor of eight domestique in cycling, who does the work for you.

:25:35. > :25:45.-- the idea of a domestique in cycling. Waschburger, reveals he

:25:45. > :25:52.cannot get a medal, maybe a deal has been done.

:25:52. > :25:59.Thomas Lurz has every medal in his pocket, apart from this one.

:25:59. > :26:05.Mellouli is challenging. Thomas Lurz has an Olympic medal, but not

:26:05. > :26:09.gold. We saw Mellouli a couple of laps ago, he made a big move in

:26:09. > :26:15.this straight down to the feeding station. He seemed to do it so he

:26:15. > :26:19.could take some food and drink, and still come out, in the leading pack.

:26:19. > :26:24.I wonder if he will do the same sort of thing. He does work awfully

:26:24. > :26:29.hard to make sure he is reading into the feeding station,

:26:30. > :26:34.interesting tactic. It looks like he is going very wide. If you are

:26:34. > :26:44.in the pack, do you follow Mellouli and go to the right, now to the

:26:44. > :26:49.left. Or, do you go to the right. Hardly any of them doing it. That

:26:49. > :26:55.is really interesting. You saw a few people building up, he is not

:26:55. > :27:00.feeding. I planned to. But if I do, I will miss the pace. A couple of

:27:00. > :27:09.them decided they would maybe feed, and didn't. Added think anybody has

:27:09. > :27:17.taken a feed. The top of Group, the top four, have opened up a gap.

:27:17. > :27:26.That was a moment maybe where the break was made.

:27:26. > :27:35.Mellouli has gone. There is clear Lurz. Thomas Lurz is working very

:27:35. > :27:44.hard to get back. Look at that, a gap of maybe three metres between

:27:44. > :27:48.Mellouli. Let us see around this buoy. Not an awful lot of turn on

:27:48. > :27:58.this one, a slight redirection. Mellouli around it first, Thomas

:27:58. > :27:59.

:27:59. > :28:06.Lurz second. Thomas Lurz is working very hard, Andy. There is the pack

:28:06. > :28:13.coming around. The world champion from Shanghai last year. Three-

:28:13. > :28:21.times Olympian as well, Sydney, Athens. His best result was 5th in

:28:21. > :28:31.Athens. In the 1,500m. 400 as well. Spyridou Gianniotis is a very

:28:31. > :29:01.

:29:01. > :29:10.race. When Risztov started to push the pace and tried to make it a war

:29:10. > :29:14.of attrition, to keep it moving and moving. The bridge which divides

:29:14. > :29:20.Kensington Gardens, and the Long Water of the Serpentine. In a

:29:21. > :29:30.couple of laps, they will do this next buoy. There will be a streak

:29:31. > :29:42.

:29:42. > :29:49.sprint into the finish. -- straight this time. They have about 400m to

:29:49. > :29:59.go straight and now and then one lap to go. That is why Mellouli has

:29:59. > :30:00.

:30:00. > :30:05.put his hammer down. He has changed about a second faster than the rest

:30:06. > :30:15.of the field. They cannot live with it. Key has been sitting around the

:30:16. > :30:17.

:30:17. > :30:22.field. It took too much energy to stay up with him. Lurz will be

:30:22. > :30:32.working his socks off to stay up with him. It is growing by the

:30:32. > :30:32.

:30:32. > :30:39.centimetre. And that is Gianniotis in third, I think. The Greek world

:30:39. > :30:49.champion. Been 4th it is still the Canadian, Weinberger. This is what

:30:49. > :31:00.

:31:00. > :31:04.happens when you push the pace nice you have as few people in the final

:31:04. > :31:14.sprint as possible. If those guys stay together there will be four

:31:14. > :31:17.

:31:17. > :31:23.men going for three medals. Mellouli, Lurz, Weinberger, and

:31:23. > :31:30.Gianniotis. Mellouli knows exactly what he has done. He has probably

:31:30. > :31:35.gone with about 3,000 metres to go. It is very unusual. Mellouli has

:31:35. > :31:39.Gun earlier than he has done in any previous race. He won the qualifier

:31:40. > :31:47.in Portugal in June of this year. 9th June, he just a couple of

:31:47. > :31:51.months ago. He was first, Weinberger was second. Lurz didn't

:31:51. > :31:57.do it because he had already qualified, and neither did

:31:57. > :32:07.Gianniotis because he had already qualified. From last year's World

:32:07. > :32:08.

:32:08. > :32:15.Championships you have got a fascinating race coming up to one

:32:15. > :32:22.lap to go. Mellouli is taking them in. 1.6 and a bit kilometres still

:32:22. > :32:32.to go. Mellouli, there was maybe two metres, I think Lurz may have

:32:32. > :32:42.

:32:42. > :32:46.just real that in a tiny bit. -- not been dropped yet. This is

:32:46. > :32:50.fascinating. My thought when Mellouli was going to go come I

:32:50. > :32:57.thought he would go in decisive fashion and that would be the end

:32:57. > :33:04.of that. But he has not done that, Lurz is covering. And also covering

:33:05. > :33:14.him a very well indeed is Richard Weinberger from Canada. There is

:33:14. > :33:18.one out on his own, and that it might be Waschburger. Waschburger

:33:18. > :33:23.is finding himself caught in the middle. Daniel Fogg has done quite

:33:23. > :33:31.well, he is in 15th place. He is still in there for start he won't

:33:31. > :33:34.get into the medals, it will be so hard to bridge the gap. Mellouli is

:33:34. > :33:39.opening a decisive lead. It looks like the other three will be

:33:39. > :33:45.swimming with each other in a minute. As they have entered their

:33:45. > :33:50.final lap in his men's 10,000m opal water swim at the Olympic Games,

:33:50. > :33:57.fantastic crowds all the way around the edge of the Serpentine.

:33:57. > :34:01.And amongst those crowds, with a silver medal, Michael Jamieson, and

:34:01. > :34:11.Rebecca Adlington, and it makes you the most successful British swimmer.

:34:11. > :34:14.

:34:14. > :34:20.There will always be a little hint of a disappointment. I did expect

:34:20. > :34:26.more with my time. It wasn't how I wanted it to go, but looking back

:34:26. > :34:31.it has been incredible. The crowd and support has been amazing. We

:34:31. > :34:36.couldn't ask for any more support with what we have been given.

:34:36. > :34:42.Beijing was amazing. Maybe it would have been nice to do it the other

:34:42. > :34:46.way around. But I have had an amazing career so far. If somebody

:34:46. > :34:55.said to me, you have will get a four Olympic medals, I would have

:34:55. > :34:59.has has been a dream come true. Michael, a silver medal. Would you

:34:59. > :35:05.have had that reaction if somebody said to you you will get a silver

:35:05. > :35:11.medal at a London Games? It has been a perfect week. I have enjoyed

:35:11. > :35:16.it. The result is better than I hoped it would be. I was always the

:35:16. > :35:22.outside tip at best. I have had a great week and I have been trying

:35:22. > :35:28.to soak it up this week. What does it make you want to do now, it is

:35:28. > :35:33.the Commonwealth Games in your sights, Rio in your site? I hope so,

:35:33. > :35:37.Glasgow in two years will be a homecoming. The pool were the

:35:37. > :35:42.swimming will be taking place is where I swam when I was five or six

:35:42. > :35:48.years of age. The Scots have such a strong breaststroke contingent now.

:35:48. > :35:53.Making the team will be hard enough. I will be delighted to be there.

:35:53. > :36:03.For years is a long time until Rio. But now I would love to be there as

:36:03. > :36:06.

:36:06. > :36:14.duties at Keri-Anne and David's wedding coming up and then you have

:36:14. > :36:22.a cycle ride? Keri-Anne's wedding, I cannot wait for that, and her hen

:36:22. > :36:27.do. Are you organising that? her sister is. We have been passing

:36:27. > :36:33.ideas back and forth. I have some cycle training, something different.

:36:33. > :36:38.I have not been on a bike in 10 years. It will be keeping fit and

:36:38. > :36:43.it is the charity, which is the reason we are doing it. I love to

:36:43. > :36:46.go back to the guys who really need it. I know you mentioned you would

:36:46. > :36:52.like to do Strictly Come Dancing, if the offer comes, maybe it

:36:52. > :36:56.already has, what the cycle ride rule you out? Yes it would come

:36:56. > :37:01.about raising money for charity, it is more important. Obviously a

:37:01. > :37:06.would love to do strictly, it has been my dream, to learn how to

:37:06. > :37:16.dance, but the charity work is more important and that I cried

:37:16. > :37:20.

:37:20. > :37:27.definitely comes first. Brilliant sure he goes around the right side

:37:27. > :37:35.of this buoy. If he goes alongside, it is a straight red card and you

:37:35. > :37:41.are out. -- the wrong side. He has to go round the far side of it. He

:37:41. > :37:46.is looking up. He did a big correction. He has to be careful

:37:46. > :37:56.coming into the finish. Doing the same loop all the time, he doesn't

:37:56. > :37:56.

:37:56. > :38:02.want to go wrong. This is the final turn. Short distance between those

:38:02. > :38:09.sausage-shaped things! Technical turn. This is the east end of the

:38:09. > :38:19.leg. They have to go all the way to the West end. About three-quarters

:38:19. > :38:29.

:38:29. > :38:36.go. For Mellouli that should be pretty good, about 1,500m for start

:38:36. > :38:42.he knows it very well. The Olympic champion in Beijing in the pool on

:38:42. > :38:52.1,500. And I wonder if he knows how far ahead he is? That is the bottom

:38:52. > :38:56.

:38:56. > :39:03.end. He hasn't dropped them as much as I thought he would. Lurz is

:39:03. > :39:10.still there. Gianniotis has caught up with Weinberger. It is not over.

:39:10. > :39:14.Gianniotis looks as though he has got some energy. Both Lurz and

:39:14. > :39:19.Laura Bechtolsheimer have some scrappy strokes, compared to the

:39:19. > :39:25.guys in first and second place. Sihine is looking to see if he

:39:25. > :39:31.wants to bridge the gap. He is on the feat of Weinberger. I think he

:39:31. > :39:35.is giving them a little tap, which is very annoying. And he is

:39:35. > :39:40.crawling up the body. The referee is looking very carefully at what

:39:40. > :39:45.is going on. If he sees something on towards, in his opinion, he will

:39:45. > :39:51.get the yellow-card out. David Davis, we have seen some people get

:39:51. > :39:55.red cards, and yellow-card in the final lap of these major

:39:56. > :40:03.championships? As it gets to the closing stages, people want to be

:40:03. > :40:09.in the right position. There is four of them now, one leading and

:40:09. > :40:15.three in the chasing group. It is a decisive split. The three behind

:40:15. > :40:22.Mellouli are working hard. He is not kicking too hard, there is not

:40:22. > :40:28.much splash. He still has another gear to go. But the guys behind him,

:40:28. > :40:36.we are seeing a lot of splash just to stay in touch. It will be a

:40:36. > :40:44.fight for the lower medals. They have always been the main players.

:40:44. > :40:49.One kilometre to go. 1,000m. 9,000 metres have gone. Look at the

:40:49. > :40:58.battle for silver and bronze. I think that is Mellouli leading. He

:40:58. > :41:04.has about a ten-metre lead, still. On the left, his Gianniotis. And

:41:04. > :41:09.Weinberger is on the right. Lurz is still there, I thought he had gone,

:41:09. > :41:16.but he is on the feat of Weinberger. I don't think they can catch

:41:16. > :41:26.Mellouli now. It is about 20 ends of an Olympic pool. I think this is

:41:26. > :41:36.good night, he is going to his legs. I think David is correct, this is

:41:36. > :41:38.

:41:38. > :41:43.the ear to go. Mellouli, maybe in putting in two beats, I think

:41:43. > :41:49.you're right. The second group won't catch him on this now. It

:41:49. > :41:53.will be a real scrap the the silver. Just at the bottom of your screen

:41:53. > :42:00.by the boat, Mellouli on the right and then those three of those guys

:42:00. > :42:10.are only going to get two medals. Gianniotis is looking for the

:42:10. > :42:16.freshest. Maybe the clever tactics is Lurz. He needs to make sure he

:42:16. > :42:23.will be climbing up shortly. With about 800m to go, they have some

:42:23. > :42:29.work to do. I do think Mellouli looks good, but the has not

:42:29. > :42:34.completely drop them. He does look good and when he was in the pool,

:42:34. > :42:44.his last 400m was very strong. He came back on the field. I wouldn't

:42:44. > :42:45.

:42:45. > :42:49.be surprised if he is built for this. He has put on a couple of kg

:42:49. > :42:54.to make sure he can take the colder water. That is what a couple of the

:42:55. > :42:59.women did. He had a great swim in the pool. Not as great as he can do

:42:59. > :43:03.in the pool, and I think everything has been geared up to this.

:43:03. > :43:08.Everything has been geared up to give Mellouli the best chance for

:43:08. > :43:14.some he has been travelling around experiencing open-water swimming.

:43:14. > :43:18.He has the turn of speed. Coming into this, he was talked about as

:43:18. > :43:22.the one to watch, the one to beat and the one who will take this

:43:22. > :43:31.sport on to another level. Again we are seeing somebody he won't let

:43:31. > :43:37.this go. There are some wonderful swimmers in there, Great experience.

:43:37. > :43:42.They will be doing all sorts of things trying to gain advantage

:43:42. > :43:52.over each other, positioning wise. The referee boat is tracking those

:43:52. > :43:54.

:43:54. > :43:58.guys. Just to check it is all right. So, Mellouli has passed the middle,

:43:58. > :44:08.pink buoy and coming to where the feeding station is. But they won't

:44:08. > :44:10.

:44:10. > :44:17.be going into there. All coaches alongside. They are all on the pink

:44:17. > :44:23.pontoon. They will be encouraging as much as they can. I think that

:44:23. > :44:31.is Lurz in the white cap just behind Mellouli. It looks quite

:44:31. > :44:35.close, but it is still about 12, 13 metres. The gap is slowly

:44:35. > :44:44.increasing between Mellouli of Tunisia. He looks very good indeed.

:44:44. > :44:51.The chasing pack have some serious work to do. They do have a bit of a

:44:51. > :44:56.fight going on, it looks like it might be Lurz. It might be Lurz on

:44:57. > :45:06.the chasing pack. Gianniotis it is in there, and so is Weinberger of

:45:06. > :45:16.Canada. His Mellouli going to create some history? He has already

:45:16. > :45:18.

:45:18. > :45:23.won a bronze medal freestyle in the pool. He is absolutely going now.

:45:23. > :45:33.He has two turns to go. Us to swim along the end of the late, along

:45:33. > :45:46.

:45:46. > :45:51.Gianniotis, maybe in the third place, with wine Berger -- Richard

:45:51. > :46:01.Weinberger of Canada. I had thought Thomas Lurz would make him move,

:46:01. > :46:02.

:46:02. > :46:09.but he did not come up with it. In that chasing pack, Dan Fogg. I

:46:09. > :46:19.cannot see Mellouli losing this, having a fantastic swim. He still

:46:19. > :46:20.

:46:20. > :46:26.hasn't done the kick we know he can It will be fantastic to see Dan

:46:26. > :46:32.Fogg finish in the top 10. Got under 15 minutes this year for the

:46:33. > :46:38.first time. Made the Olympic final, to getting the top 10 would be a

:46:38. > :46:43.good year for Dan Fogg. We are looking here, but somebody I think

:46:43. > :46:53.he has made a wonderful transition from swimming pool to open water,

:46:53. > :47:05.

:47:05. > :47:10.righthand side. He does not have far to go, maybe 500 metres. Hasn't

:47:10. > :47:15.he swum well? He has kept on pushing the pace, adding a little

:47:15. > :47:23.bit more pressure, then letting the field come back, then put in on the

:47:23. > :47:32.pressure. He has a 25-metre lead. Mellouli from Tunisia, he trains in

:47:32. > :47:37.a Saturdays. A big scrap for silver and bronze medal. That will be

:47:37. > :47:41.really tight. Thomas Lurz is in there, Spyridou Gianniotis, and

:47:41. > :47:48.Richard Weinberger who has worked so hard.

:47:48. > :47:58.The following pack has strung out again. Mellouli is coming to

:47:58. > :48:04.

:48:04. > :48:14.victory. In the chasing pack, they have strung out. That is Thomas

:48:14. > :48:18.

:48:18. > :48:24.Lurz in the silver cap. Richard Weinberger to the left of him.

:48:24. > :48:29.Spyridou Gianniotis, falling off the pace. We are looking at a

:48:29. > :48:34.Tunisian Olympic champion. The ace is incredible. He swam in

:48:34. > :48:44.the pool in the 1500m freestyle. And he has come into the Serpentine,

:48:44. > :48:57.

:48:57. > :49:02.to swim the 10 -- 10k open water. Thomas Lurz, not dropping back. In

:49:02. > :49:09.their position is one burgher of candour. But, nobody will catch

:49:09. > :49:18.this man. At the moment, Mellouli will take a fantastic gold medal,

:49:18. > :49:25.10,000 metres in the Serpentine. has executed it perfectly. A

:49:25. > :49:30.wonderful swimmer. I think there is going to be a cracking battle for

:49:30. > :49:38.second. Thomas Lurz will not want to give it away. They are fighting

:49:38. > :49:48.back. He has some work to do, Mellouli. He doesn't get caught on

:49:48. > :49:51.

:49:51. > :49:56.the lane lined -- mustn't get caught on the lane line. Mellouli

:49:56. > :50:03.is creating history. A silver medal battle, it looks like Thomas Lurz

:50:03. > :50:13.will get it. The gold will go to Mellouli of Tunisia. He won the

:50:13. > :50:29.

:50:29. > :50:38.gold fabric in Beijing in the 1500m world champion, Spyridou Gianniotis

:50:38. > :50:44.of Greece. So sad one of those four men had to be out of the medals.

:50:44. > :50:52.I am not sure if that is Dan Fogg. Coming in, in 5th place. A

:50:52. > :50:59.fantastic swimmer, how has he done that? He has done 1,500 in the pool

:50:59. > :51:04.as well. 8th in the pool in the 1,500. That is a brilliant swim

:51:04. > :51:14.from Dan Fogg, the future of British distance soaring, looking

:51:14. > :51:16.

:51:16. > :51:23.very good indeed. Well done. -- distance swimming.

:51:23. > :51:33.What a great swim from Dan Fogg, to come through, destroying that big

:51:33. > :51:35.

:51:35. > :51:42.pack in that last 1,500, his best ever position. Mellouli, just

:51:42. > :51:49.rolling on to his back. First Olympic gold medal for Tunisia in

:51:49. > :51:58.open water. He got a gold medal in the Beijing Olympics in the pool,

:51:58. > :52:04.in the 1,500m. Dan Fogg, what a finish. I have never seen him

:52:04. > :52:14.finished so well. Very impressive. To have anything left after the

:52:14. > :52:18.

:52:18. > :52:25.1500m freestyle. Then, to come here. There he is, so pumped up. What

:52:25. > :52:35.does it mean to him. Bronze medal in the pool in the 1,500, now a

:52:35. > :52:52.

:52:52. > :52:57.stand up and salute this man. He is trying to work up the crowd.

:52:57. > :53:07.Mellouli is walking around. Pumping his fist at anyone who will look at

:53:07. > :53:10.

:53:10. > :53:20.him. Coming in now, not the last swimmer. Schulte is still half a

:53:20. > :53:25.

:53:25. > :53:34.lap a way. -- away. That is the Kazakhstan's swimmer.

:53:35. > :53:40.What a sensational race. A really fantastic swimmer. Still no gold

:53:40. > :53:50.medal for Thomas Lurz. The bronze medal, very well earned, or Richard

:53:50. > :53:54.

:53:54. > :54:00.David Davies and I, lost in admiration for Mellouli. He has

:54:00. > :54:06.made history, the first to win a pool and open water medal in the

:54:06. > :54:12.same Games. He has destroyed a very good field. A massive gap, it is

:54:12. > :54:20.normally a tight finish. Amazing all the way through. Dan Fogg, 5th

:54:20. > :54:29.is his best. He a great performance. On the third lap, he was down to 20.

:54:29. > :54:37.He finished strongly. He ended up in 5th place. He has had a

:54:37. > :54:43.fantastic Games. What about Thomas Lurz, such an experienced open

:54:43. > :54:48.water swimmer? He will be the people's choice, he has been around

:54:48. > :54:55.for a long time. A very hard worker, a great ambassador for the sport. A

:54:55. > :55:04.bronze in Beijing, silver here today. At any stage, did you think,

:55:04. > :55:11.I wish I was in there? Only to cool off! You need to be in great

:55:11. > :55:16.condition, Mellouli showed that today. He beat Thomas Lurz by a

:55:16. > :55:26.good five-10 seconds. He has mood of this sport on massively. I was

:55:26. > :55:32.glad to watch today. We're waiting for the swimmers to pass by. The

:55:32. > :55:40.sun is beating down on us. It feels like we are in Rome. He is making

:55:40. > :55:45.his way over now. Taking on plenty of fluids. A word for Spyridou

:55:45. > :55:51.Gianniotis of Greece had finished 4th. Born in Liverpool. We are very

:55:51. > :55:57.pleased for him. Dan Fogg, congratulations, a stunning swim,

:55:57. > :56:07.and how on earth you came back into it on the last lap. We don't even

:56:07. > :56:09.

:56:09. > :56:14.know where I came. 5th. I am really pleased with that. I was picking

:56:14. > :56:20.off a person at a time. I was surprised I had quite a bit left, I

:56:20. > :56:30.was feeling repeat in the middle. The pace picked up on the last two

:56:30. > :56:37.laps. It was amazing to watch. You got a good start. Some people were

:56:37. > :56:42.left. Mid-race, you slipped back as far back as 22. Suddenly, you're

:56:42. > :56:51.there on the last lap. I was happy with my first lap, it felt easy, I

:56:51. > :56:57.was at the feet of Mellouli. Then, people were fighting quite a lot,

:56:57. > :57:01.bunched together. It was a case of fighting to the front. Keri-Anne

:57:01. > :57:06.said in the last lap, she was feeling horrible but she listened

:57:06. > :57:10.to the crowd and went for it. Coming down the back straight, I

:57:10. > :57:15.was a matter of metres away from people screaming, and it really

:57:15. > :57:21.made a difference. In a race so tough and hard like this. I just

:57:21. > :57:25.wish I was closer towards the end to be in the race. But I am happy

:57:26. > :57:30.to get up to 5th. You did a great job, well done.

:57:30. > :57:36.Dan Fogg, he gets a hug from the last Olympic silver-medallist,

:57:37. > :57:41.David Davies. That was stunning not just for the quality of sport, but

:57:41. > :57:48.for the setting, and how much it has done for the sport of swimming.

:57:48. > :57:55.This is central London, these crowds, a fantastic place.

:57:55. > :58:01.Congratulations to Mellouli, for Tunisia.

:58:01. > :58:09.We have more news from the water, from Weymouth. What a result,

:58:09. > :58:15.silver medal for Great Britain, Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills, in

:58:15. > :58:22.the 470 class, the second silver medal of the day. The men and the
