:05:39. > :05:42.really believe half of it, it is just another race, I will just turn
:05:43. > :05:47.up and do what I do every time, but it was just incredible, the
:05:47. > :05:51.experience. When I first went to the stadium, there was this big
:05:51. > :05:58.stand in front of you, and I remember thinking, oh my goodness,
:05:58. > :06:02.this is all for us! The day that I remember the final, I had a massive
:06:02. > :06:10.rush of butterflies, energy, and just like, my gosh, this is it, the
:06:10. > :06:15.countdown fell so slow. Oh my goodness, I went off the start. I
:06:15. > :06:19.hit 83, I thought, gosh, I have got to keep it together. There was this
:06:19. > :06:23.disastrous part where I missed a gate, and the commentator said any
:06:23. > :06:30.chance of a medal was over. challenge for a medal has
:06:30. > :06:34.disappeared. I ended up in fourth place. The end was nerve-wracking,
:06:34. > :06:39.wasn't it, because of the way the results came in? It was my own
:06:39. > :06:42.mistake, to finish 4th is good, but it is disappointing. It was halfway

:07:53. > :08:03.she has not got an earpiece. You remember hitting Gates 34 star Yes,
:08:03. > :08:06.it is not the one to hit, I could see it with the nose of my boat.
:08:06. > :08:11.that was the worst of my errors, it would have been better than what I
:08:11. > :08:15.got. It was always a troublesome course, and that is what happens,
:08:15. > :08:21.there is so much going on, you have to control every step of the way
:08:21. > :08:25.and get to the end on the best possible run. It is a three here,
:08:25. > :08:31.but it is finals day, there is a real buzz, you wish you were at
:08:31. > :08:36.there? I wish I could be at the start line with the same for my hat
:08:37. > :08:42.in Athens, but I could not handled it in front of this crowd. That is
:08:42. > :08:46.what we have seen, massive support. Yes, sitting on the start line,

:08:56. > :09:01.Richard Hounslow said it is amazing, when the crowd go up in Rawes, it
:09:01. > :09:06.is fantastic. David Florence had a silver medal four years ago. How
:09:06. > :09:10.excited should we be about his prospects? Very excited. In the
:09:10. > :09:14.heats, he did not have a fantastic time on the first runs, the nerves
:09:14. > :09:19.really got to him, he was the first British competitor down the course,
:09:19. > :09:25.and the Crown would never have known what it was going to do, so
:09:25. > :09:29.it took him a while to get into his stride. He has had two more runs in
:09:29. > :09:34.the C2 class heats, so we will be feeling more confident today, he
:09:34. > :09:38.will know what to expect. There is a lot in it, it will suit him, it
:09:38. > :09:43.is technical, and he is good at controlling the moves. I think the
:09:43. > :09:48.nerves should be in the bag and settled. The course has changed to
:09:48. > :09:53.the semi-final, they think it will be a little bit slower, but only
:09:53. > :09:58.one run. 12 go in the semi-final, eight and a final, so there is no
:09:58. > :10:02.room for mistakes. Absolutely, that is what makes it so exciting, it is
:10:02. > :10:06.one run that counts, they will have to get it right. They will have
:10:06. > :10:10.watched the demonstration runs, worked out their options. There are
:10:10. > :10:16.a couple of places where there is an option, and depending on whether
:10:16. > :10:21.you are right-handed or left-handed, that will depend on what you do.
:10:21. > :10:28.One of the things they say about canoe slant is that it is an on the
:10:28. > :10:32.day's sport, but only two athletes have won the gold medals. They
:10:32. > :10:35.present a real challenge to him, don't they? They are both
:10:35. > :10:41.incredible, but they are not unbeatable, they have been beaten
:10:41. > :10:45.in World Cups, World Championships, but not in the Olympic Games! It is
:10:45. > :10:50.all about there for the others, and the pressure is on them to recreate
:10:50. > :10:54.what they have done in past Olympic Games. What do you think David's
:10:54. > :10:59.approach will they? As I say, the top eight go through. Is he going
:10:59. > :11:03.to keep something back for the final? No, he will go all out. Only
:11:03. > :11:09.eight go through, so they all have to go out. They cannot afford to be
:11:09. > :11:14.holding back, what if they made a mistake later than the cause? It
:11:14. > :11:17.will be all out, and I guess you may possibly see if somebody does a
:11:17. > :11:22.fantastically accurate to run, they may take it a little bit easier to
:11:22. > :11:28.the finish line, but I'm not sure that anyone will do that, take that
:11:28. > :11:38.chance. Thanks for the moment. That semi-final goes of very shortly. In

:11:56. > :12:00.case you're not an expert, he is The aim is to negotiate a course
:12:00. > :12:07.marked by slalom gates cleanly and as quickly as possible without
:12:07. > :12:11.touching the polls. For a clean passage, the head of the panel must
:12:11. > :12:16.travel fully between the two polls. Part of the boat must be inside
:12:16. > :12:21.them. If anything touches one of the polls, a two-second penalty is
:12:21. > :12:27.incurred. Capsizing is not penalised. But if you miss a gate,
:12:27. > :12:32.50 seconds will be added to the total time. 82 athletes compete for
:12:32. > :12:36.four gold medals. The numbers are reduced through heats, semi-finals
:12:36. > :12:39.and ultimately the finals. They will perform two runs during the
:12:39. > :12:44.heats, with the best one deciding whether they progress for are

:12:58. > :13:03.
:13:03. > :13:08.single run to determine who takes OK, just a reminder that David goes
:13:08. > :13:12.8th of 12. All he has to do is get into the final. Anyway, your

:13:18. > :13:24.after running up to the commentary We are jet getting a bird's-eye
:13:24. > :13:28.view of the course at the moment. It has been increased by one extra
:13:28. > :13:33.gate, but that does not really tell the story. Helen Reeves has rushed
:13:33. > :13:42.back to the commentary box, and she can explain a little bit more about
:13:42. > :13:46.physically demanding during the heats, but I think the competitors
:13:46. > :13:54.are going to be surprised once they go down the course this afternoon,
:13:54. > :13:58.to realise just how technically demanding it is going to be, Helen.
:13:58. > :14:03.Absolutely, the cause has increased in difficulty, and I think also
:14:03. > :14:11.physically it will be quite a challenge. We have seen there are
:14:11. > :14:14.now six upstream gates that are in the eddies. So it is going to be
:14:14. > :14:19.quite a technical challenge for them to decide what to do, and it
:14:19. > :14:25.will slow the boat down, so I would expect to see slower times than we
:14:25. > :14:33.saw in the heats. Helen is still a little bit out of breath! But never

:14:37. > :14:42.Florence of Great Britain. The French and starting at number six,
:14:42. > :14:47.former double Olympic champion. -- the Frenchman. Then we have got
:14:47. > :14:52.some real class, one of the fastest men in the heats, the man from
:14:52. > :14:56.Slovenia, and last to go, the amazing man himself Mikhail
:14:56. > :15:02.Martikan of Slovakia, double Olympic champion from Atlanta, when
:15:02. > :15:07.he was just 17 years old. As the first man that we are going to say
:15:07. > :15:13.this afternoon, just to remind you, it is only the top eight that go
:15:13. > :15:18.through, and there is only one run allowed in the semi-final. The
:15:18. > :15:24.Australian has done incredibly well to make his team and to make the
:15:24. > :15:28.semi-final, ranked only 40th in the world. He qualified for the

:31:06. > :31:10.quarters of an hour ago, looking Florence of Great Britain has to
:31:10. > :31:14.aspire to if he is going to win the gold medal. The medals are some way
:31:14. > :31:21.away at the moment, the jobber in and is to make sure he qualifies
:31:21. > :31:30.for the final. Tony Estanguet has dropped a little bit of time on the
:31:30. > :31:34.leader, just drifting across to 19. He dropped off between the
:31:35. > :31:39.downstream and upstream gate. But he did have a bit of time on his
:31:39. > :31:44.hands, he needs to get out quickly and get the most tracking to drive
:31:44. > :31:50.all the way to the finish. The time looks good, and he is without
:31:50. > :31:56.penalties at the moment, looking good for France and Tony Estanguet.
:31:56. > :32:01.Comfortably in first place. So he has not made the same errors that
:32:01. > :32:09.he made four years ago in Beijing, and once again the great man is in
:32:09. > :32:13.the Olympic final. The really showed his class at there, looking
:32:13. > :32:17.smooth and controlled in the top section. He lost a little bit of
:32:17. > :32:23.time on the bottom sections, but the top section was so smoothly
:32:23. > :32:27.executed that he had a little bit of time to play with. Another man
:32:27. > :32:33.in this field, Michal Martikan has won the Olympic title twice, so
:32:33. > :32:37.this is a real sheet out, hopefully not just between Nos two, but to
:32:37. > :32:47.have the mantle of the Best c one paddle of all time, it could be
:32:47. > :33:07.
:33:07. > :33:17.time before the other guy's got to grips with the course and went
:33:17. > :33:53.
:33:54. > :33:58.the place as he heads towards 13. Not as smooth as he was in the
:33:58. > :34:08.heats. This is a totally different course, but nevertheless he has
:34:08. > :34:14.
:34:14. > :34:21.lost that fluidity, the rhythm, and one side of the course to the other,
:34:21. > :34:31.it is challenging, technical and physically very demanding. He is
:34:31. > :34:35.
:34:36. > :34:40.3.80 down on the split at the go very tight to the right-hand
:34:40. > :34:45.pole on a 19. It seems to be pushing them right across the
:34:45. > :34:52.course very quickly indeed. Staying close to one of the polls but not
:34:52. > :35:02.touching it, that was important. 4th one zero 4.04, he is in second
:35:02. > :35:09.
:35:09. > :35:15.place, but Tony Estanguet is the is through to the final as part of
:35:15. > :35:20.the top two at the moment. -- safe to save. Next that is David
:35:20. > :35:24.Florence, as we watch the replay of the Spaniard. He is number eight
:35:24. > :35:30.down this course. He has the number four next to his name, as the crowd
:35:30. > :35:40.goes absolutely wild, he has just been introduced. If the finish is
:35:40. > :35:45.
:35:45. > :35:49.no worse than 4th, is definitely Beijing. The man who wanted to be
:35:49. > :35:52.an astronaut when he was a little bit younger, he was turned down by
:35:52. > :35:56.the European Space Agency, so he has put all his efforts into
:35:56. > :36:01.becoming one of the best paddlers in the world. Not only in this
:36:01. > :36:07.category but in the C2 class with Richard Hounslow, and both of those
:36:07. > :36:10.are safely through to the semi- final of that competition. David
:36:10. > :36:20.Florence gets his campaign for a Olympic glory under way here in
:36:20. > :36:43.
:36:43. > :36:46.moment, just the thing around gate France, looking good for Great
:36:46. > :36:51.Britain as well as for David Florence. He would love to go one
:36:51. > :37:01.better than he did in China four years ago. So far, it is all going
:37:01. > :37:25.
:37:25. > :37:32.entry, losing a fraction of time, the Class C Frenchman at the moment.
:37:32. > :37:42.That is two seconds, he last ball of his momentum. We know how tricky
:37:42. > :37:57.
:37:57. > :38:03.19 can be. Come on, keep it heads down, pumping those arms! Is
:38:03. > :38:12.in 6th place and potentially may not make the final. -- he is. It
:38:12. > :38:18.was all going so, so well and tilth that one big mistake in gate 18. --
:38:18. > :38:23.until. He lost all of his momentum and got stuck. It is not just about
:38:23. > :38:27.picking up penalties, as is said, it is about making sure that the
:38:27. > :38:31.run on the boat is maintained so that we do not lose the speed and
:38:31. > :38:34.have to regain it. He will be disappointed with the mistakes. He
:38:34. > :38:40.became unravelled towards the end, so we will have to wait and see
:38:40. > :38:44.what happens. The needs at least two of the remaining four
:38:44. > :38:49.competitors to produce worse results than his, and of course
:38:49. > :38:54.when you have got the double Olympic champion in there and the
:38:54. > :39:01.bronze-medallists from the European champion, the Japanese is looking
:39:01. > :39:11.very smooth, and a German, a former European champion, oh, it is down
:39:11. > :39:24.
:39:24. > :39:28.His fortunes were mixed in the heats, brilliant first-round, and
:39:28. > :39:31.he had to rely on that to make sure that he made it through to this
:39:31. > :39:37.stage of the competition, but everybody's eyes now will be on the
:39:37. > :39:42.results bought. There are a couple of pawns down the course, and at
:39:42. > :39:47.the moment they are showing David Florence in 6th place, and his
:39:47. > :39:57.total score, 106.16, that is crucial as far as British
:39:57. > :39:59.
:39:59. > :40:09.has been able to find his rhythm and has not picked up any penalties
:40:09. > :40:25.
:40:25. > :40:31.will not bother the former Olympic champion, but it will bother David
:40:31. > :40:39.Florence and the British supporters. This is a very tidy run indeed by
:40:39. > :40:49.the German. The really seems to have got himself in a good blaze.
:40:49. > :40:53.
:40:54. > :41:02.The drives nicely out of 21, raising down the side, he has done
:41:02. > :41:11.it emphatically. A superb performance, and he has put himself
:41:11. > :41:14.in the frame to be one of the favourites to lift the title.
:41:14. > :41:18.looked like he got after a shaky start at the beginning, where he
:41:18. > :41:22.got his nose caught, but he found his rhythm on the latter part of
:41:23. > :41:32.the course, and he just gained speed throughout. And that means
:41:33. > :41:37.
:41:37. > :41:44.that David Florence is down in 7th Pushing David Florence, as Paul
:41:44. > :41:49.Dickenson said, down into 7th, it is going to be a very anxious wait.
:41:50. > :41:55.98.94, well, if you want to see more from the White Water Centre,
:41:55. > :42:04.you cannot over on BBC One. But what is going on this afternoon?
:42:04. > :42:08.This is what is coming up. 10m synchro platform, we saw Tom Daley
:42:08. > :42:15.and Pete Waterfield yesterday, but today it is the turn of Tonia Couch
:42:15. > :42:25.and Sarah Barrow. If you enjoyed the gymnastics yesterday, the women
:42:25. > :42:26.
:42:26. > :42:31.will be in action today. What can And tonight Michael Phelps goes in
:42:31. > :42:36.his signature event, the 200m butterfly, and with the Relate as
:42:36. > :42:44.well, he could become the most decorated and Indian ever. -- the
:42:44. > :42:49.relay. Also, Andy Murray there just warming up. He is playing Jarkko
:42:49. > :42:55.Nieminen are thin lens, the second round for Andy Murray. -- of
:42:55. > :43:00.Finland. You can see all of that action on BBC Three. Well, just
:43:00. > :43:04.before we go, time for a few little tweets. Let's see who has been
:43:04. > :43:14.saying what, Nick Woodbridge, the modern pentathlon, nerves of steel
:43:14. > :43:19.from Tina Cook, also an avenging job. Mike Tindall, Team GB medal,
:43:19. > :43:22.getting, you beauty. And what a match it was in the volleyball last
:43:22. > :43:26.night, Great Britain against Algeria, lots of tweets from the
:43:26. > :43:36.team there, it finished after midnight with everybody saying how
:43:36. > :43:40.incredible it was. So the individual final on BBC One at
:43:40. > :43:46.2:30pm, time for just start at oil well, no, we will stop there, but
