:00:31. > :00:36.For so long this season Edinburgh have been the form Scottish team,

:00:37. > :00:43.sitting comfortably at the top four of the Pro12, but defeat against

:00:44. > :00:49.Cardiff means tonight's card death -- match in Wales, this time in

:00:50. > :00:53.Llanelli, is important. It is Scarlets against Edinburgh. A warm

:00:54. > :00:56.welcome to Parc y Scarlets. I'm Dougie Vipond, delighted to be here

:00:57. > :01:00.and everyone is focusing on Wales against Scotland, in the Six

:01:01. > :01:04.Nations, but the Pro12 continues and this is very, very important for

:01:05. > :01:08.Edinburgh as they came here looking to get their Pro12 campaign back up

:01:09. > :01:12.and running. As ever, Andy Nicol is with me and my goodness, that defeat

:01:13. > :01:18.two weeks ago in Cardiff means Edinburgh have to do well this

:01:19. > :01:21.evening. Very much so. They will still be smarting. They didn't play

:01:22. > :01:24.well. Their campaign has been a good campaign, they have done well, been

:01:25. > :01:29.in the top four for most of the season. They must win tonight. They

:01:30. > :01:33.have a real chance. Both sides are weakened, with it being sits Nations

:01:34. > :01:39.weekend. But I fancy Edinburgh. They will fancy their chances. This

:01:40. > :01:42.Scarlets side have for so many years had a good pack, quite a dangerous

:01:43. > :01:45.pack, and a fearsome pack as well. But Edinburgh, although they have

:01:46. > :01:49.some of the guys away at the Six Nations, still have important

:01:50. > :01:55.players here. Very much so. Without doubt this will be a battle up

:01:56. > :01:58.front. Scarlets have players like Regan King and Stephen Stringer at

:01:59. > :02:02.stand-off, who is a really good player, but I still think tonight

:02:03. > :02:07.when you are down into testing your resources at both clubs, that is

:02:08. > :02:12.when you become a battle up front -- Steven Shingler. I think we will see

:02:13. > :02:15.that tonight. Edinburgh have been sitting comfortable in the top four

:02:16. > :02:18.for most of the season. They have dropped out as a result of the match

:02:19. > :02:18.against for most of the season. They have

:02:19. > :02:24.dropped out as a result of the match against Cardiff, there they are in

:02:25. > :02:28.fifth place. Leinster, Scarlets and Connacht are the top four, nothing

:02:29. > :02:32.to worry about from an Edinburgh point of view but 13 points, two

:02:33. > :02:37.behind Leinster, it's been a poor season from Leinster's point of

:02:38. > :02:41.view. It's so tight there, isn't it? This is going to go right to the

:02:42. > :02:44.wire. You'll see chopping and changing, Connacht are the surprise.

:02:45. > :02:47.They are like Leicester city, they keep going. Everyone thinks they

:02:48. > :02:51.will start losing but they keep winning. There is a lot to be made

:02:52. > :02:55.up. Edinburgh have over performed this year, this is above

:02:56. > :02:57.expectations, which is great. They need to push on because they have a

:02:58. > :02:59.real chance, a need to push on because they have a

:03:00. > :03:03.real chance, a real chance, of getting in the play-offs. The thing

:03:04. > :03:08.about Connacht, one of the side is not affected by the World Cup or the

:03:09. > :03:11.Six Nations, get Edinburgh and particularly Glasgow very much at

:03:12. > :03:16.the wrong end really have been. What you have there is a continuation of

:03:17. > :03:20.players, selection at Connacht, there has been the luxury of picking

:03:21. > :03:23.the same team week in, week out, so Edinburgh haven't, Glasgow haven't,

:03:24. > :03:28.but all the other sides haven't as well, so it's been a really

:03:29. > :03:33.difficult season for all the Pro12. The World Cup obviously in 16 games

:03:34. > :03:35.I think it is weekends back to back, that's the real stress on resources

:03:36. > :03:40.because she will pick up injuries, so you will not have every player

:03:41. > :03:43.available with international call-outs, so you are digging into

:03:44. > :03:47.your reserves. That's why we are seeing some young players getting a

:03:48. > :03:51.chance and it's great because we are seeing the next generation. We will

:03:52. > :03:54.see many of these guys playing for Edinburgh, a hugely important match

:03:55. > :04:00.for both sides and before we came on air I spoke to both coaches,

:04:01. > :04:04.starting with Alan Solomons. Five changes for a hugely important game.

:04:05. > :04:10.What's the thinking behind it? Some of the chips -- chaps weren't

:04:11. > :04:15.available, we had a lot of locks out, Toolis is available, I'm

:04:16. > :04:20.grateful he doesn't have to play lock. How difficult it is it when

:04:21. > :04:22.you have so many guys awake for international duty to keep the

:04:23. > :04:26.campaign going question might it's tough for all the teams. All the

:04:27. > :04:31.teams suffer over this period. It's very difficult. It's been an

:04:32. > :04:35.attritional season. In the Pro12 we had 16 back-to-back games, all the

:04:36. > :04:40.clubs have to do it. We all have a lot of injuries. We have players out

:04:41. > :04:43.with the Six Nations. I think we have just got to view it in a

:04:44. > :04:46.positive light and it gives opportunities to other players. A

:04:47. > :04:51.loss against Cardiff last time out but how important is this to get the

:04:52. > :04:54.Pro12 campaign up and running? We didn't play well against Cardiff and

:04:55. > :04:59.they fully deserved the victory. We need to perform a lot better tonight

:05:00. > :05:03.to get a result. This time last year you got a victory, would it be nice

:05:04. > :05:08.to get another win tonight and take it back to Edinburgh? Of course it

:05:09. > :05:12.would but we know the Scarlets are determined for this game, as we are,

:05:13. > :05:19.so it's going to be a pretty tough, tight contest. Will we see the

:05:20. > :05:23.national side in the squad getting action? One can never tell how the

:05:24. > :05:26.bench will be used, Jamie played against Cardiff and played really

:05:27. > :05:32.well, we must remember he's only out of school and Blair is the first

:05:33. > :05:37.year out of school. We wish you all the best. Thanks very much. People

:05:38. > :05:41.are focusing on the international match, how tough is it to get

:05:42. > :05:45.together for a Pro12 match the night before a big occasion? Not too hard

:05:46. > :05:48.for us, we have memories of last year playing Edinburgh out here, it

:05:49. > :05:52.was the only game at home in the Pro12 that we lost so we look

:05:53. > :05:57.forward to this game for some time and coming off a disappointing game

:05:58. > :06:01.against Connacht, having to wait two weeks to get back on the park has

:06:02. > :06:05.been a bit of a test really. We're looking forward to it. What do you

:06:06. > :06:08.think are the strengths of this Edinburgh side? They are well

:06:09. > :06:11.coached, obviously. They are very direct in their play. They have good

:06:12. > :06:16.set piece, good line-out, good line-out drive, so they take it to

:06:17. > :06:20.you, very directly at times, and we have to be up to the task

:06:21. > :06:26.defensively. Our set piece has to improve from the last game. You

:06:27. > :06:29.mentioned the defeat this time last year. Is that still quite painful

:06:30. > :06:33.for you? We're very proud of the run we had last year in terms of home

:06:34. > :06:37.victories in the Pro12 and for that to come to an end was disappointing.

:06:38. > :06:39.It's got to happen at some stage but you don't like it when it happens.

:06:40. > :06:45.You look forward to playing that side again and hopefully getting it.

:06:46. > :06:48.Thank you. The Scarlets coach there, the fact Edinburgh won here and this

:06:49. > :06:52.is the thing that is clearly in the mind now, the only team to win here

:06:53. > :06:57.in the Pro12 last year. It still hurts for him. Very much so, it's a

:06:58. > :07:00.really proud record that they had last year. You think the quality

:07:01. > :07:04.sides who came here and lost and Edinburgh were the only side to do

:07:05. > :07:08.it and the Edinburgh players know what it takes to win here. They have

:07:09. > :07:11.that good experience and it will be a different side but many of these

:07:12. > :07:16.players will have been here last year so they will try to replicate

:07:17. > :07:20.that tonight. It was during the Six Nations last year as well, so a lot

:07:21. > :07:25.of the guys are playing at risk I'm -- game tonight. Let's talk about

:07:26. > :07:28.some of the guys who are looking for big performances, John Hardy has

:07:29. > :07:31.been a real revelation, join the Scotland side, came to Edinburgh,

:07:32. > :07:35.has been playing really well. Hamish Watson takes his place tonight. This

:07:36. > :07:41.is a perfect opportunity for somebody like Hamish Watson to step

:07:42. > :07:45.up. John Hardy Scotland's number seven and Edinburgh's number seven,

:07:46. > :07:48.but Hamish Watson is a great understudy. He is a perfect shape

:07:49. > :07:52.and size for the modern-day seven. Look at the depth of his chest

:07:53. > :07:57.there. Once he gets in over the ball you are not going to get him off it

:07:58. > :08:00.and that's why he's so good. He's also very abrasive and he's just

:08:01. > :08:04.relentless. He gets knocked back, he gets up, he goes again. A bit like

:08:05. > :08:07.John Hardy, a similar style. I'm sure Hamish is really learning from

:08:08. > :08:12.John Hardy. I've been really impressed with him in the last few

:08:13. > :08:17.years. He will get a chance and play for Scotland, I've no doubt, but he

:08:18. > :08:21.has to bide his time and learn and get better at it and use games like

:08:22. > :08:24.this to really make his mark in the game and put his mark on it and make

:08:25. > :08:27.sure he can dominate the contact. For those who are not entirely sure

:08:28. > :08:31.what a seven actually does, just explain to us the role he has to

:08:32. > :08:35.play and how important it is for the rest of the team. Contact is so

:08:36. > :08:38.important, set pieces is one part of it but there are so many more

:08:39. > :08:43.contacts and collisions that at seven he getting you -- in over the

:08:44. > :08:48.ball, getting the tackle, getting in and trying to secure the ball. The

:08:49. > :08:53.great sevens, Victor MacColl was fantastic, tomorrow, John Hardy and

:08:54. > :08:56.Sam Warburton and Tipuric and Berkeley and Coward come you see so

:08:57. > :09:02.many players now, so Hamish Watson has a big role to play tonight. Is

:09:03. > :09:08.the unlucky not to be the Scotland setup? It's too early, John Hardy is

:09:09. > :09:12.the clear choice. You have Blair Cowan, John Barclay, a Scarlets

:09:13. > :09:16.player obviously back in the Scotland squad. Hamish Watson has to

:09:17. > :09:20.bide his time but that time will come. One Bobby -- one guy who could

:09:21. > :09:26.do some damage tonight for the Scarlets, he has done so much over

:09:27. > :09:31.the years is DTH Van der Merwe. Now playing here in Wales and he is such

:09:32. > :09:35.a great entertainer, so popular here, but I'm sure Edinburgh fans

:09:36. > :09:41.would like to see him again -- would like to see him again. Oh, I had a

:09:42. > :09:44.quick talk with him before the game, once a warrior, always a warrior. He

:09:45. > :09:49.wants to score tries against Edinburgh. He is playing for the

:09:50. > :09:53.Scarlets and has had a great start his career here. He scored his drive

:09:54. > :09:57.on his first game and they love him here at Parc y Scarlets. He's that

:09:58. > :10:03.player that is not a winger that stays on his wing. He goes looking

:10:04. > :10:06.for work. He will come off nine, come off ten, coming from the

:10:07. > :10:11.openside, he is one of these great players and I'm delighted for him.

:10:12. > :10:17.Absolutely, a standout player. Back to tonight, Edinburgh has a really

:10:18. > :10:21.good front eight, they are strong, it's usually important, they win

:10:22. > :10:25.lots of penalties off it and it will be key against the Scarlets team.

:10:26. > :10:33.Set pieces, the key to this is against Leinster, is who is coming

:10:34. > :10:36.into the front row. Dickinson, Ross Ford and Nell, against Munster at

:10:37. > :10:39.Murrayfield. This is the Scotland front row playing tomorrow. The key

:10:40. > :10:44.tonight is for the likes of Sullivan and Cochran and Andress, can they

:10:45. > :10:48.replicate that quality when they are now playing the Edinburgh tonight,

:10:49. > :10:51.because it can be devastating. You are not just winning possession,

:10:52. > :10:56.you're turning oval ball, getting penalties, which takes you 40-50

:10:57. > :11:00.yards down the line. It's an offensive scrum, look at that,

:11:01. > :11:05.absolute power but yet again that is the Scotland front row, can

:11:06. > :11:09.Edinburgh tonight with Sutherland, Cochrane and Andress, step up? I

:11:10. > :11:14.think they are good scrimmages and I would expect them to get under John

:11:15. > :11:17.tonight. I have heard that Scotland had a wonderful win, and historic

:11:18. > :11:22.win against Edinburgh last week, playing against Wales this evening,

:11:23. > :11:29.they were up at half-time. They have just lost, 18-15, a late penalty, it

:11:30. > :11:32.was 15-15 for so long in the game. I mentioned to Alan Solomons he had

:11:33. > :11:35.taken a couple of players out of the under 20s side, the national squad,

:11:36. > :11:42.sitting on the bench tonight. Would they have made a difference? I'm

:11:43. > :11:44.sure they would because Jamie Ritchie and Blair Kinghorn,

:11:45. > :11:48.outstanding players, Kinghorn scored a try in the victory against

:11:49. > :11:51.England, a memorable victory. There is a clear hierarchy in Scottish

:11:52. > :11:55.rugby and it is the international team at the top, then the pro teams,

:11:56. > :12:03.then the age groups and the sevens at the same level. The priority is

:12:04. > :12:08.with the proteins. There are so many players... That is priority has to

:12:09. > :12:11.be Edinburgh. He has injuries at ten and 15 so Blair Kinghorn covers both

:12:12. > :12:14.stand-off and full-back and on the back row they have a number of

:12:15. > :12:18.injuries as well, Jamie Ritchie had to be called back. It's a shame for

:12:19. > :12:23.those two players. They would have been desperate. I spoke to Blair, he

:12:24. > :12:27.was desperate to play but it wasn't as -- his decision, it was taken out

:12:28. > :12:31.of his hands and I hope they get gametime tonight because the 3-point

:12:32. > :12:36.defeat at Wales, those two players could have made the difference so

:12:37. > :12:40.give them gametime tonight. He had a great Win a week ago and some of his

:12:41. > :12:44.players were taken, that's the way this cookie crumbles. Let's talk

:12:45. > :12:47.about the importance of them potentially coming off the bench

:12:48. > :12:51.because against Scarlets it will be an attritional game. I would have

:12:52. > :12:55.thought so, it's a strong bench. There are players who can come off,

:12:56. > :13:00.Jamie Ritchie will get gametime tonight. He is not regarded as an

:13:01. > :13:05.under 20, he is a key part now of the squad. But with Coleman and Du

:13:06. > :13:08.Preez and Hamish Watson, it's a good back row, a back row that can really

:13:09. > :13:12.get in amongst the Scarlets back row. Shingler at six and Morgan

:13:13. > :13:16.Allen at eight, an experienced player, so they are not lacking

:13:17. > :13:21.experience or quality in the back row so it will be a good battle

:13:22. > :13:26.tonight. Phil Burleigh, who signed an extension to his contract, he has

:13:27. > :13:31.been an impressive player at ten. He causes a bit of excitement, likes to

:13:32. > :13:37.do things, unsubtle defences. Next year, Duncan Weir is coming along

:13:38. > :13:41.from Glasgow. Come off his perch. I think he will move into the centre.

:13:42. > :13:44.Phil Burleigh looks like a 12 playing at ten, it's been effective

:13:45. > :13:47.and he reads the game well, he manages the game very well. That's

:13:48. > :13:53.good, you have young players around them and he has to boss it will stop

:13:54. > :13:56.I'd like to feed if Nathan Fowles will get the game going and get the

:13:57. > :13:59.tempo but Phil Burleigh will dictate where Edinburgh play and how

:14:00. > :14:05.Edinburgh play. One of the guys I like watching is Damien Hoyland, in

:14:06. > :14:09.the wing, as we mentioned DTH Van der Merwe, and entertaining one but

:14:10. > :14:14.this young fellow is a fireball once he gets going. Very stocky, big

:14:15. > :14:18.legs, real power, a real athlete, which is great to see. It's a good

:14:19. > :14:22.stadium here. The picture is not great tonight but they have had

:14:23. > :14:25.horrendous weather. Just as we have all over the place. You can see it

:14:26. > :14:31.is very patchy as the Edinburgh team are getting ready to go. You hope

:14:32. > :14:34.you get the ball, it's dry, it's good overhead conditions so I'd like

:14:35. > :14:40.to think Edinburgh can get the ball out wide and get Hoyland and Tom

:14:41. > :14:43.Brown, and Greig Tonks, it's a good exciting three, it's up to the

:14:44. > :14:48.midfield and the forwards to win the ball and get it into good areas. It

:14:49. > :14:51.should be a fantastic match, I'm looking forward to it. We are

:14:52. > :14:56.watching from the stands, you will get to watch it from your sofa, live

:14:57. > :15:03.here on BBC Two Scotland in the Cumbria -- company of our commentary

:15:04. > :15:06.team, Hugh Dan MacLennan and John Beattie.

:15:07. > :15:11.COMMENTATOR: There are nine points covering the

:15:12. > :15:18.top six. This is the Edinburgh line-up tonight. The second row, the

:15:19. > :15:22.departing captain is back on the blindside, otherwise the same pack,

:15:23. > :15:27.the backs, Hoyland is the second top scorer in the competition, Sunbird

:15:28. > :15:36.is in for Strauss and -- Sam Beard is in. An attritional contest in

:15:37. > :15:51.prospect. Edinburgh in their away strip. A must win for both sides.

:15:52. > :15:54.The coach is clear the distractions of Cardiff and all the other matches

:15:55. > :15:55.being played tonight are set aside because these are

:15:56. > :15:56.being played tonight are set aside because these are critical moments

:15:57. > :16:09.in this year's competition. The predictable fanfare, an

:16:10. > :16:15.explosion of colour, at Parc y Scarlets, for the home team.

:16:16. > :16:20.Disciplinary issues, there are the yellow cards, forwards, changes in

:16:21. > :16:23.the front row Bulbring makes his debut from South Africa, and

:16:24. > :16:25.unchanged back row for three weeks in a row. Rhodri Williams is

:16:26. > :16:41.leaving, Steve Shingler. Well, the substitute Benz, some

:16:42. > :16:47.familiar names we heard of -- bench. Ritchie, Toolis, perhaps not the

:16:48. > :16:51.strongest Scarlets bench we have ever seen. Scarlets have the ball,

:16:52. > :16:59.playing from right to left. The referee is Andrew dress of the Irish

:17:00. > :17:02.union. -- Andrew Brace. His eights match in this competition, not the

:17:03. > :17:07.most experienced of referees but he has Nathan Hodges on the line for

:17:08. > :17:13.comfort and support. All the play for in one of the tightest

:17:14. > :17:21.competitions we have seen for years. And immediately Scarlets, who else,

:17:22. > :17:24.it is Van der Merwe. Slackness, immediately, in the Edinburgh

:17:25. > :17:33.forward line there, completely misreading that. Van der Merwe was

:17:34. > :17:38.on it like a flash. 25 metres from the line, just seconds off the

:17:39. > :17:45.clock, less than 20 seconds, and he almost breached it. But Edinburgh

:17:46. > :17:49.have won it. Nathan Fowles. Well, John Beattie, that's a get out of

:17:50. > :17:53.jail card in less than 20 seconds question might I was watching the

:17:54. > :17:58.kick off and I thought they had lined up incorrectly. It's Toolis,

:17:59. > :18:02.he is too far forward. He misjudged it. It wasn't lifted properly, it

:18:03. > :18:06.didn't get as high as he thought. He was very far forward. They have cut

:18:07. > :18:11.off early but it was going to be the long pass out, that structure and

:18:12. > :18:15.Van der Merwe was nearly in. He will never have had an earlier score,

:18:16. > :18:19.slack passing midfield, Scarlets grabbing it. We will come back to

:18:20. > :18:23.the state of the pitch. There's our first opportunity at the first

:18:24. > :18:29.scrum, we can have a word, John, it's not an ideal surface in any

:18:30. > :18:33.manner of form? Not ideal. This is just a bad pass, but the pitch is

:18:34. > :18:37.harder than I thought it looked, certainly around the edges. Lots of

:18:38. > :18:42.sand. They have had a bit of water but the pitch is fairly hard, short

:18:43. > :18:45.grass, a howling wind left to right as the view was the IPSO Scarlets

:18:46. > :18:50.playing into the wind first half and I agree with Andy Nicol, these are

:18:51. > :18:55.the periods of the game you need to be settled, set piece, first scrum.

:18:56. > :18:58.Slippy surface, it has to be said. It will suit those with speed if

:18:59. > :19:07.they get going, Damien Hoyland for example, Van der Merwe has had a

:19:08. > :19:14.blast already. The attritional contest in the packs already there

:19:15. > :19:19.to be seen. We heard a lot in the pre-match chat about the need for

:19:20. > :19:25.the Edinburgh from three to step up to the plate, Sutherland, Cochrane,

:19:26. > :19:32.Andress. They have chosen to go back to the scrum. If we watch their

:19:33. > :19:35.feet, we will see whether they are having trouble. Maintaining the

:19:36. > :19:40.ground. Yes, the previous scrum, I think Phil John, the prop we see

:19:41. > :19:45.coming in, the number of one for the Scarlets, adjudged to have shoved

:19:46. > :19:47.early. Andress, number three four Edinburgh, normally scrum is very

:19:48. > :19:53.low, almost with his knees on the ground. It is not the first choice

:19:54. > :20:00.front row. This is key that they get at least parity. Here we go. Good

:20:01. > :20:08.scrum. Solid from Edinburgh. Scarlets go to the left. The referee

:20:09. > :20:10.had a quick look. See the kick in the ground there, absolutely

:20:11. > :20:18.rock-solid out there. That almost went over the defender's shoulder, a

:20:19. > :20:23.chance for Edinburgh now to come back. The first aerial bombardment.

:20:24. > :20:26.That one didn't really carry and again, uncertainty under the high

:20:27. > :20:36.ball, but Edinburgh have plenty of men behind the ball. Fowles, Tonks

:20:37. > :20:43.joins the line for full-back. And a penalty, the first penalty to

:20:44. > :20:46.Edinburgh. I tell you what though, they will be delighted with the

:20:47. > :20:50.first scrum, the reset scrum, because that is a second string

:20:51. > :20:54.front row on that front row, that Edinburgh front row, had the

:20:55. > :20:58.Scarlets front row on toast and the referee was about to blow for a

:20:59. > :21:01.penalty when Edinburgh got the ball, so the wind is not where we thought

:21:02. > :21:08.so I think Edinburgh will be delighted. This is just a crazy high

:21:09. > :21:11.tackle. Well, perhaps at any other point in the game with only four

:21:12. > :21:17.minutes in, but we have seen less than that be very harshly dealt

:21:18. > :21:22.with. To be neutral, Brown was running low. Yes. Perhaps a few of

:21:23. > :21:27.the other players slipped off the tackle just in time. Not so sure

:21:28. > :21:36.that was the planned outcome, but it reached an Edinburgh mascot,

:21:37. > :21:44.Coleman, the captain. Fowles, untidy from Edinburgh again. The referee is

:21:45. > :21:48.waiting for the knock-on, just having a look to see if Edinburgh

:21:49. > :21:57.will do anything with it. They have a chance. Fowles again. Slowish

:21:58. > :22:00.ball. Burley keeps a low this time, using this click along the ground to

:22:01. > :22:07.try and tempt the mistakes -- Burleigh. Now Tonks has it, he will

:22:08. > :22:16.fire it up again. He chooses to run, changes his mind, goes left. Well

:22:17. > :22:20.taken in the wind. It's almost charged down, which has given a

:22:21. > :22:23.Scarlets a chance here to come into play because it rebounded off an

:22:24. > :22:30.Edinburgh player and they have it, they have momentum now and they have

:22:31. > :22:34.plenty of men coming left. A lot of men, Van der Merwe on the prowl,

:22:35. > :22:37.they are trying to bring him in. He's there, but he's not needed

:22:38. > :22:44.because the number eight has gone all the way, Allen. He has sliced

:22:45. > :22:48.through the Edinburgh defence. Edinburgh looking for Van der Merwe

:22:49. > :22:51.to take the ball, wasn't needed, Morgan Allen completed the move

:22:52. > :22:57.beautifully. This is really good play. Because it's that long pass

:22:58. > :23:01.from Shingler, remember Scotland tried to get Shingler. He passed it

:23:02. > :23:08.between bodies and then the number eight just a big ramrod of a hand

:23:09. > :23:12.off and Allen is over for the try. Look at that pass, split between two

:23:13. > :23:15.forwards or so the defenders are attracted in. There is a man free

:23:16. > :23:20.running. Out comes the right hand, bang, you're not getting anywhere

:23:21. > :23:24.near me. That's a good try. Pace, balance and poise from the number

:23:25. > :23:29.eight. He used the players as decoys, Edinburgh eventually had to

:23:30. > :23:33.commit to the tackle and by then it was too late. The key was that first

:23:34. > :23:41.pass. Shingler had two forwards outside him and he threaded the ball

:23:42. > :23:45.between them. A killer pass and perhaps not a killer blow with the

:23:46. > :23:49.conversion, but it's another two points for the Scarlets. And

:23:50. > :23:57.certainly not the kind of start that Edinburgh would have wanted. But for

:23:58. > :23:59.all this is a difficult place to come to they would have wanted a

:24:00. > :24:04.better start than that, in seven minutes they have gone seven points

:24:05. > :24:15.down. The score their Scarlets seven, Edinburgh nil. Along the

:24:16. > :24:20.restart this time. -- a longer restart this time from Edinburgh,

:24:21. > :24:28.almost charged down again. Rhodri Williams is departing this season at

:24:29. > :24:31.the end of five years, he was saying this week how his focus remains on

:24:32. > :24:45.making sure that Scarlets stay in the business end of the Pro12.

:24:46. > :24:54.This is a better, quicker throw from Edinburgh, a flat pass taken. Sam

:24:55. > :24:58.Beard had half of Wales coming in on top of him. Edinburgh need to get

:24:59. > :25:08.some ball, they need to have time on the game. They need to play in

:25:09. > :25:11.Scarlets territory for a while and they haven't quite got there at any

:25:12. > :25:16.point. That was a slightly risky pass. This is a good chance now.

:25:17. > :25:23.They have Du Preez inside again, to Beard. Better movement, faster

:25:24. > :25:29.movement, from Edinburgh. Good pass, the forwards piling in, Du Preez has

:25:30. > :25:32.come off the game again and good variety, good accuracy from

:25:33. > :25:38.Edinburgh. Good defence from Scarlets. Because they have got

:25:39. > :25:52.control of the position again. Through Burleigh's arms. He took his

:25:53. > :26:00.I off it. Sam Beard going in where bigger men should be. For the first

:26:01. > :26:09.time Edinburgh have managed to retain possession for a couple of

:26:10. > :26:15.minutes. Burley changes -- Burleigh changes his mind. Every time

:26:16. > :26:20.Edinburgh man gets it there is a man rushing to tackle him. Very quick on

:26:21. > :26:23.the first ball carrier. Same again, they have two players back and at

:26:24. > :26:27.some point Edinburgh have to gamble on going over the top. Du Preez

:26:28. > :26:36.releases the ball to the left and again Scarlets stream back and

:26:37. > :26:45.Fowles has a dart. A good game, really abrasive game. First ten

:26:46. > :26:48.minutes planet -- plenty of action. Almost caught flat-footed in the

:26:49. > :26:56.first 20 seconds but paid the penalty, a half-break, Fowles again.

:26:57. > :27:07.Tonks joins the line. This time John Andress taken down. Fowles again

:27:08. > :27:11.comes to the right. Toolis, the latest score in Glasgow, Ulster

:27:12. > :27:15.three, Glasgow five, action everywhere tonight and tomorrow of

:27:16. > :27:20.course, Lee Jones with that try from Glasgow. Putting them 5-0 up, good

:27:21. > :27:27.pressure from Glasgow and off the ball here, off the ball down below

:27:28. > :27:32.us to our right Anton Bresler engaged. There is a flag, I'm not

:27:33. > :27:37.surprised, I'm not surprised there's a flag, and this could be a big

:27:38. > :27:43.decision. Let's listen in. REFEREE: The red tent has reacted

:27:44. > :27:54.with a swinging arm. No connection. But obviously first offence, four

:27:55. > :28:00.ten, red tent has reacted, we will reverse the penalty. Do you agree?

:28:01. > :28:07.Just a push? Your recommendation as a penalty against him? That decision

:28:08. > :28:10.swings -- seems to have swung backwards and forwards, let's listen

:28:11. > :28:18.to the conclusion. Read Kenned Steven Shingler. Clearly a right hip

:28:19. > :28:25.on you, you have reacted by pushing. The penalty is against you. Yes?

:28:26. > :28:33.Let's join Andy Nicol because he had a good few of that, I think? I did,

:28:34. > :28:36.there's no doubt that Bresler took Shingler high and there was a bit of

:28:37. > :28:39.afters, but Shingler definitely threw a punch as far as I could see.

:28:40. > :28:43.They didn't connect but it doesn't matter, the intent was there, so it

:28:44. > :28:47.was a penalty against Edinburgh. I think it should have been overturned

:28:48. > :28:51.and reversed and a penalty for Edinburgh. John Beattie? The

:28:52. > :28:56.allegation is the tackle is late, it's high, it looks high, and they

:28:57. > :29:02.are off camera there. This is definitely high and swinging and

:29:03. > :29:06.unnecessary. I don't know if we will see the second incident or not.

:29:07. > :29:10.Well, the crowd saw that and made their feelings quite clear, because

:29:11. > :29:17.in the way of things these days the review is there for everyone to see.

:29:18. > :29:20.So anyway, a big moment, and Shingler again managed to pull his

:29:21. > :29:25.hands away cleverly there. The ball kicked nicely into his arms and

:29:26. > :29:32.again, Edinburgh just falling off the tackles. Michael Collins taking

:29:33. > :29:40.it in. Turning back towards the traffic. Left again. Most of the

:29:41. > :29:44.Scarlets' possession coming to the left and coming through the hands of

:29:45. > :29:53.Morgan Allen, number eight, who got the first score six minutes. Just

:29:54. > :29:58.the retention by Scarlets is very, very effective and when they swing

:29:59. > :30:01.the ball they swing it with some confidence. They are also breaking

:30:02. > :30:08.more tackles on Edinburgh at the moment. They missed the tackle,

:30:09. > :30:12.missed the kick off. Missing too many and they have managed to turn

:30:13. > :30:20.it over. They did well to hold the Scarlets player off the ground.

:30:21. > :30:27.The challenge of gaining possession, Van Der Merwe is stripping off for

:30:28. > :30:33.some reason, not the best of nights to do that, changing his shirt

:30:34. > :30:37.already. That is where the arm wrestle took place, before it

:30:38. > :30:41.eventually hit the deck. Nowadays, I think the referees are telling the

:30:42. > :30:45.players that you can get one me down, that is the more overcome you

:30:46. > :30:49.will see the players scramble, King is a great player. Three or four

:30:50. > :30:54.years ago, he was one of the best in the world. The Edinburgh players

:30:55. > :30:58.wrapped him up, it could be disappointing if Andress is injured,

:30:59. > :31:04.this is not the first front line, front Row for Edinburgh. They are

:31:05. > :31:08.confident. I think at the moment Edinburgh have made a couple of

:31:09. > :31:14.basic mistakes, they missed the tackles, a try. Getting robbed of

:31:15. > :31:19.the ball, stupid stuff from Bresler. Up in the scrums. I think that the

:31:20. > :31:23.Scarlets are looking confident. The reality is, the score does not

:31:24. > :31:29.reflect the chances that scholars have had in the opening 15 minutes,

:31:30. > :31:37.less than. To have those converted in 20 seconds, that would have been

:31:38. > :31:40.a huge blow. It looks like here's up and not exactly running. This was a

:31:41. > :31:46.brilliant handoff, for the number eight to run like that. He is stocky

:31:47. > :31:51.and strong. He is not that tall but he is bulky. That kind of player in

:31:52. > :31:58.this environment, that picture looks as if it is wet but it is hard. You

:31:59. > :32:05.can fly on that pitch Cash that pitch -- that pitch. He has enough

:32:06. > :32:11.confidence to take on the Edinburgh defence. Van Der Merwe, the

:32:12. > :32:15.competition's top scorer with six tries. That is a good scrum,

:32:16. > :32:22.Edinburgh have a great scrum tonight. The referee leaves it with

:32:23. > :32:28.Edinburgh. They had a bit of a ramble. It's the old thing of front

:32:29. > :32:39.rows, the very last thing you have to do is go forward -- rumble. Look

:32:40. > :32:46.at that turf being ripped up, 80 minutes of that, there would be a

:32:47. > :32:51.lot left of it! It will rip up. Some suggestion that we may have a shower

:32:52. > :32:59.or two in the evening, it is bitterly cold now. I do hope we get

:33:00. > :33:05.to see the under 20 players tonight, I think it's a big story that they

:33:06. > :33:09.are on the bench tonight. Those two boys will be capped the future. They

:33:10. > :33:17.are very good players. It's a penalty for Edinburgh, another

:33:18. > :33:20.busting for inverse. We were watching Blair Kinghorn kicking in a

:33:21. > :33:25.pre-match routine. It was impressive. He was not exactly

:33:26. > :33:29.kicking it and it was flying over the post from well-known the halfway

:33:30. > :33:33.line. People did not hear the result last week with Scotland, the under

:33:34. > :33:38.20s scored four tries to beat the English side, you can go to the

:33:39. > :33:46.website and look at Kinghorn's try. He flew past all of the English

:33:47. > :33:50.defenders. The Windies swirling -- the wind is swirling now. It was

:33:51. > :33:54.left to right at the start of the game, it clearly held up. That did

:33:55. > :33:58.not go the distance it should have. There must be some sort of effect

:33:59. > :34:05.over there, the stadium is not completely enclosed. We can feel on

:34:06. > :34:09.our faces left-to-right. Over there, I suspect the stands are creating

:34:10. > :34:14.some sort of effect. Catching the ball. The wind looks to be right

:34:15. > :34:20.behind the Scarlets. It is a great stadium for people who have not been

:34:21. > :34:24.here on the outskirts of town, it is the kind of stadium that Edinburgh

:34:25. > :34:30.would want. A fantastic stadium, not the biggest crowd ever because, I

:34:31. > :34:35.suppose, of the other rugby fixtures this weekend, a lot going on. The

:34:36. > :34:38.Scottish invasion this morning, I think I was the only person on the

:34:39. > :34:47.plane without a kilt! Probably just as well!

:34:48. > :34:56.Just the flag on the far side, the linesman with it, gently rippling

:34:57. > :35:08.and kicking off. It indicates a change in the wind. The Scarlets

:35:09. > :35:12.have it. Ready to rumble. This is the danger area for all teams these

:35:13. > :35:19.days. They have a penalty coming. Edinburgh have collapsed. The

:35:20. > :35:23.Scarlets attack is out again, looking for Van Der Merwe. They have

:35:24. > :35:28.the ball which has blown over his head. It was a kick to nothing. They

:35:29. > :35:36.knew that it was a free ball, they had the penalty. The Scarlets set up

:35:37. > :35:43.the rear drive, you cannot, in that area, collapse the ball, you get a

:35:44. > :35:48.penalty against you. It is a free ball. They will kick at ball, Andy

:35:49. > :35:51.Nichol, is that the decision we would have expected there? I suspect

:35:52. > :35:56.with three points. There was a decision before that was

:35:57. > :35:59.interesting. The Scarlets had a choice of scrum or line-out, they

:36:00. > :36:06.took the line-out. It is testament to how strongly Edinburgh scrum has

:36:07. > :36:11.been so far. Look at the scoreline, it proves that set pieces are one

:36:12. > :36:25.thing but the rest of the players are ready important.

:36:26. > :36:44.This is by no means a guinea, the wind is clearly a factor. -- gimme.

:36:45. > :36:54.He gives it a huge hoof, and he blasts it through the posts. They

:36:55. > :37:05.deserved that. He's been kicking at 64%. Two successful kicks. He's

:37:06. > :37:11.looked good, Shingler, calm, on form, collected, Edinburgh are up in

:37:12. > :37:17.the scrums but not making use of possession, making too many mistakes

:37:18. > :37:22.compared to the Scarlets. The ball hanging in the air again. The

:37:23. > :37:28.Scarlets sussed it out, they are first to it every time. Ten points.

:37:29. > :37:33.But they have lost that one. The ball goes forward.

:37:34. > :37:41.The referee agrees that it was a ricochet forward. Some of the

:37:42. > :37:45.accuracy is still not there, that is possibly due to the conditions? I

:37:46. > :37:49.think it is the tension of the night as well. A lot of players here

:37:50. > :37:59.thinking it is a big game and they have two win. It's a bit about arm

:38:00. > :38:02.wrestle. -- of an arm wrestle. You would expect Edinburgh to have an

:38:03. > :38:10.advantage, scholars want to move it wide. Dupre is at number eight...

:38:11. > :38:21.For Edinburgh, when he gets the ball, he can really set down the

:38:22. > :38:25.tackle. -- du Preez. We haven't seen the Hamish Watson effect yet. When

:38:26. > :38:32.he explodes along the side of the pitch in particular. The referee is

:38:33. > :38:37.beginning to lose patience with the scrum, but I think he understands

:38:38. > :38:42.the underfoot conditions. I think he's picked up on someone. We

:38:43. > :38:48.discussed, stability was a minimum requirement, we hold the head, take

:38:49. > :38:52.off the pressure. I cannot make my message clearer. They aren't going

:38:53. > :38:56.to take the pressure off, you aren't going to settle down for the scrum

:38:57. > :39:04.and take the pressure off, you keep it on. No way will a team take the

:39:05. > :39:12.pressure off. Certainly not in this area of the pitch. Try again.

:39:13. > :39:28.Crouch, blinds... Burley is to the left, Hoyland...

:39:29. > :39:33.Drifting in. WHISTLE They have blasted the Scarlets

:39:34. > :39:40.there. That was very impressive. You try and edge out games, Edinburgh

:39:41. > :39:47.are structured. The coach brought a game plan in, the forwards taking

:39:48. > :39:52.the pass off now. It appears he has two good front rows, the

:39:53. > :39:57.International one starting tomorrow and this one. This is quite

:39:58. > :40:03.abrasive, they have a lot of weight here. Coleman slips in, making sure

:40:04. > :40:11.he helps and taking the loose prop head. Clever stuff. We spotted this

:40:12. > :40:19.earlier in the match as well, Nathan Fowles was practising his kicks. He

:40:20. > :40:23.did not seem to be bringing toxin to the firing range in terms of

:40:24. > :40:29.kicking. Whether it is a practical thing or an injury, I'm not sure --

:40:30. > :40:44.Tonks. He was pulling to the left in the warm up. Let's look and see if

:40:45. > :40:49.he has managed to compensate. Well, he took a lot of time about it, and

:40:50. > :40:58.he strikes it sweetly. He has managed to compensate, getting

:40:59. > :41:02.Edinburgh on the board. There is an injury in the Scarlets 22, Shingler.

:41:03. > :41:11.I think Shingler, the starting ten, is there. I think their medic has

:41:12. > :41:15.waived... He has a Dan Biggar injury, he has gone over on his

:41:16. > :41:21.ankle, I assume that's what he's done, he was nowhere near the

:41:22. > :41:30.playing area. He walking gingerly. He is done. The substitute is coming

:41:31. > :41:37.on, Aled Thomas. He's been kicking at 81%, he's contributed 62 points

:41:38. > :41:44.to the Scarlets effort this season. The machine line of number ten in

:41:45. > :41:46.Wales for ten years. It's unfortunate not only for Shingler

:41:47. > :41:52.but the Scarlets, he was a key figure.

:41:53. > :41:59.We will come back to that. Burley. He did not quite get that one.

:42:00. > :42:07.Steven Shingler has gone, Aled Thomas is at number 22 slotting in.

:42:08. > :42:13.13 conversions, 12 penalties. He knows the way to go, whether he can

:42:14. > :42:22.contribute the same running and same strategic control that Shingler had,

:42:23. > :42:27.that remains to be seen. This is his first contribution. Almost an

:42:28. > :42:30.identical pass. Taking out two Edinburgh defenders with one pass.

:42:31. > :42:42.They need it back quickly, the Scarlets.

:42:43. > :42:56.The crowd are appealing. Van Der Merwe waits in the line, using him

:42:57. > :43:05.as a decoy in some ways. Aaron Shingler takes it in this time.

:43:06. > :43:10.Meanwhile, Van Der Merwe disappears into the middle of the field, and it

:43:11. > :43:18.is a penalty. Good pressure from the Scarlets. They play a different way

:43:19. > :43:22.to Edinburgh, Edinburgh have structure, that first move went to

:43:23. > :43:29.the right wing. Then it came to the left wing with the same move, trying

:43:30. > :43:33.to pass the ball. This was the forward not rolling out of the way,

:43:34. > :43:40.for a cheap penalty. The Scarlets are playing wide early. Edinburgh

:43:41. > :43:49.tried to bash up runners off ten. More variety in the Scarlets

:43:50. > :43:50.approach. They have got possession. Aled Thomas, his first shot at

:43:51. > :44:10.goal... He kept it flat but straight. He

:44:11. > :44:18.kept it long enough. And it was enough. Another three points for the

:44:19. > :44:23.Scarlets. It's a ten point game now. 13-3. Clearly a comfortable

:44:24. > :44:32.conversion, you would expect that from someone kicking at 80 plus

:44:33. > :44:36.percent. Another tick in the box for the Scarlets and another challenge

:44:37. > :44:42.for a number. Let's rejoin Andy Nichol down at the

:44:43. > :44:47.far end of the pitch. Aled Thomas has come off of the bench. He got

:44:48. > :44:52.that kick over, I think it was a key moment, Shingler has been a class

:44:53. > :44:56.act controlling the game, looking dangerous. The kicking has been

:44:57. > :45:01.good, going off injured so early is a big blow to Scarlets. Can

:45:02. > :45:06.Edinburgh exploit that? 13-3 down, they need to get a try and they

:45:07. > :45:14.could get back in the game and get an impact into this first half. This

:45:15. > :45:18.is Morgan Allen taking it in. I think Kieran is out there. Neil

:45:19. > :45:23.Cochrane getting his head the wrong way and is caught. He does not move

:45:24. > :45:30.too much and he isn't moving as we watch him now to much. They thought

:45:31. > :45:34.he was lying side, you have to be careful with these lads, Cochrane

:45:35. > :45:39.has played in group rugby all the way up, a good throw, and abrasive

:45:40. > :45:43.around the pitch. It shows if you are going to tackle a heavy number

:45:44. > :45:47.eight, you need your head on the right-sided. Whether he meant it or

:45:48. > :45:55.not. Just watch the way he was tackling. It is a shame. These

:45:56. > :46:00.disruptions aren't helping either side. Leinster are issuing an attack

:46:01. > :46:19.to zebra, I suppose. 26-0 to Zebre -- Zebre. Glass go holding

:46:20. > :46:26.Ulster, 3-5. That game started at half past seven, they are well into

:46:27. > :46:33.the match. -- Glasgow. You'll Cochrane has to be careful, of a

:46:34. > :46:41.head knock curve some kind, they are going to take him off.

:46:42. > :46:45.George Turner has come on, we will see whether it is temporary or

:46:46. > :46:49.permanent, I suspect looking at Neil Cochrane going off that we won't see

:46:50. > :46:54.him back. The rules are clear, we go on about it a lot, but if you

:46:55. > :47:04.suspect any sort of concussion, you cannot come back on. Off the top

:47:05. > :47:12.from Scarlets, Van Der Merwe appears in the middle of the field. As we

:47:13. > :47:20.heard earlier, that is a great kick. Tonks has to turn, no room to move

:47:21. > :47:24.on his left foot. Van Der Merwe manages to swing at three passes

:47:25. > :47:31.along the other side of the pitch, having a blast. The hooker appears

:47:32. > :47:49.at left wing. Taking it in. Now, the prop. Phil John on a charge. Righty.

:47:50. > :47:56.They play middle, white, middle. -- wide. Edinburgh have a great break

:47:57. > :48:01.from the number the far side, taking it in. Brown ducked and weaved his

:48:02. > :48:03.way through, he didn't have enough support but there may be a chance

:48:04. > :48:24.here. Sam Beard takes take sitting. That red shirt is lying where it

:48:25. > :48:32.should not be. A driving Edinburgh side back. Slightly high... Out to

:48:33. > :48:36.the left wing again, to Brown. Plenty of pace in the Edinburgh

:48:37. > :48:47.backline as well, and here they come up the middle. To list is the engine

:48:48. > :48:56.room tonight, extra men, the dummy run from Bresler. Edinburgh have

:48:57. > :49:04.possession but not territory, they aren't making a lot of ground.

:49:05. > :49:17.Burley breaks it this time, and they manage to keep it in.

:49:18. > :49:29.On they go, moving it quickly. It is a basketball on the far side. The

:49:30. > :49:34.referee has saved Edinburgh. I thought it was George Earle but in

:49:35. > :49:42.that case it is the big South African. George Earle neither rules.

:49:43. > :49:46.He was way up the pitch. The Scarlets had the ball but you cannot

:49:47. > :49:58.fly in and take someone up the ruck, you have to bind.

:49:59. > :50:05.You cannot just come in, fly in and smash someone, probably because you

:50:06. > :50:16.will line up against him in the next line-up. He only arrived in West

:50:17. > :50:31.Wales a week or so ago, we understand. George Turner delivering

:50:32. > :50:35.the ball here. It's 10-54 Ulster now, that is very late the game. --

:50:36. > :50:46.it is 10-5, for Ulster. Lack -- Black scored for Ulster.

:50:47. > :50:52.Edinburgh are desperately trying to get back into the game. Truth be

:50:53. > :50:57.told, the scoreline could have been worse. It may be that they have the

:50:58. > :51:05.conditions in their favour for the second half. Come on, referee. Their

:51:06. > :51:12.number six was lying all over the ball.

:51:13. > :51:19.The referee is not having it. Common takes the ball in, he's tackled by

:51:20. > :51:22.George Earle, the number four. Shingler knows exactly what he's

:51:23. > :51:28.doing comedy is counting in his head... Then he was going to get out

:51:29. > :51:32.the way but the referee had blown for a scrum. Very clever! He's a big

:51:33. > :51:39.unit. I would say he's the biggest player on the pitch. Even the

:51:40. > :51:45.tallest. But overall, I think he's the biggest unit. I think he's quite

:51:46. > :51:58.capable of pulling himself about, flopping in the right place.

:51:59. > :52:01.Edinburgh are coming more into it. More plays through forwards, and in

:52:02. > :52:06.the back division. The Scarlets are much wider in their attack. Going

:52:07. > :52:11.one way to the other. Edinburgh are trucking up, to the middle of the

:52:12. > :52:24.pitch. They are yet to profit from this scrum.

:52:25. > :52:34.That is the halfway line. He is going to move them back. They

:52:35. > :52:40.are going to have another go, slightly further in, almost on the

:52:41. > :52:45.centre spot, if there was one. You can see Van Der Merwe just wretched

:52:46. > :52:53.off, he is going to have a shot now. -- stretching. We have been yet to

:52:54. > :52:58.see him, Van Der Merwe is on the extreme to write. He's been all over

:52:59. > :53:08.the backline, he has appeared everywhere. It's just not working.

:53:09. > :53:13.Your point about the pitch is very good. The new Murrayfield pitch, it

:53:14. > :53:18.is the semisynthetic pitch, it does not have much of this, rugby has to

:53:19. > :53:24.think carefully about what we play on. You cannot play on pitches where

:53:25. > :53:29.studs slip and props can make excuses, look at the mark behind

:53:30. > :53:37.them! This pitch is not adequate now, these kinds are not adequate

:53:38. > :53:44.for top-level rugby. Not fit for purpose is the commonly used phrase,

:53:45. > :53:47.the same in football, at the moment, the Edinburgh midfield... Down they

:53:48. > :53:52.go again. I think in modern rugby you cannot have a pitch where the

:53:53. > :53:58.studs slip, because props can claim it was not them. It's not just a

:53:59. > :54:07.safety issue but a technical point. A technical issue and I think for

:54:08. > :54:11.spectators. Look at the Brown patches on the pitch. Andras's

:54:12. > :54:20.feature just go, there he is, number three. For Edinburgh. You cannot

:54:21. > :54:30.have that. -- John Andress's feet just go.

:54:31. > :54:41.This time, Edinburgh do well. They've managed to recycle. They are

:54:42. > :54:45.getting there. We hear the Edinburgh change, Neil Cochrane went off,

:54:46. > :54:54.that's a permanent change now, so George Turner will stay as her

:54:55. > :54:57.cover. -- will stay as a hooker. We understand there was an injury

:54:58. > :55:04.assessment taking place, which we assume has not enabled him to play

:55:05. > :55:11.on, he's been withdrawn. Not nearly straight, I think. Edinburgh have

:55:12. > :55:17.it, they have it on the left. Where there are men aplenty. Straight

:55:18. > :55:23.through! Tom Brown again... A loose pass. The loose pass at the very end

:55:24. > :55:30.is the one that has beaten Edinburgh. The home crowd are

:55:31. > :55:37.incensed, right back to the very first throw in. It was their

:55:38. > :55:45.throwing! You play advantage. Edinburgh took advantage, they did

:55:46. > :55:48.well, using width, they had a great throw straight through. I think

:55:49. > :55:53.Edinburgh are on the verge of doing something tonight. Their team-3 down

:55:54. > :56:04.but you cannot say that the Scarlets are much better than them. -- they

:56:05. > :56:08.are 13-3 down. At half-time, they would say that they are only ten

:56:09. > :56:12.points down, they've had a bit of a shoo-in. If it was not for the bad

:56:13. > :56:16.kick-off at the start, where they messed up, they did not buy... They

:56:17. > :56:25.brought the wrong attack. When Scarlet bought the try, Morgan Allen

:56:26. > :56:29.went out on the left wing. I think at the moment, the more you look at

:56:30. > :56:33.the game, the more Edinburgh played to the right, the more they attack.

:56:34. > :56:40.More injuries in the red shirts. I think Andy's point about Shingler

:56:41. > :56:43.going off, that could be the big turning point? You are right,

:56:44. > :56:48.Edinburgh are coming back into the game but they cannot get the points,

:56:49. > :56:53.whether a penalty try at 33, with Scarlets getting that score now, it

:56:54. > :56:59.takes it away from Edinburgh and sets up things for Edinburgh. --

:57:00. > :57:03.sets up things for them. They just have to keep the scoreboard ticking

:57:04. > :57:15.over and have a big assault in the second half. Ten minutes or so

:57:16. > :57:22.remaining in the first half... Wait! It has rebounded, it was so swift it

:57:23. > :57:27.even took the Scarlets by surprise. Where did it go? Same again, lads.

:57:28. > :57:35.I'm not sure that same again is what we need! It's not even funny.

:57:36. > :57:40.Actually, that was right into the lap of Nathan Fowles. If he picked

:57:41. > :57:47.it up it could have been reset. To Edinburgh. But I think that

:57:48. > :57:51.Edinburgh... That last lineout, they did it well. The scrums are doing

:57:52. > :57:59.well. The engine rooms are firing well. I think they will miss comb

:58:00. > :58:11.and when he goes, that old-fashioned School Of Hard Knocks number six. --

:58:12. > :58:19.Coman. They are having a job disentangling from the surface.

:58:20. > :58:36.Upfield by Williams. They managed to get hold of Aled

:58:37. > :58:42.Thomas. Before they make ground. Tonks is down, he's left a huge gap

:58:43. > :58:48.behind him. Edinburgh have stolen it again, fouls goes down the line, a

:58:49. > :58:57.good and clever kick. Acres of space on this side of the field. Edinburgh

:58:58. > :59:02.may look to bring Allen and Sam Beard in. Two Edinburgh players are

:59:03. > :59:07.down. I think the referee is going to have

:59:08. > :59:12.to stop this. There are two injuries to Edinburgh's players at the

:59:13. > :59:15.moment. A good break by Owen up the right-hand side, the curse of last

:59:16. > :59:23.week for Scotland, the occasional untidy ruck. Scotland do something,

:59:24. > :59:27.I think everyone has written them off, it is quite nice to play when

:59:28. > :59:32.everyone has written you off! What an occasion to turn up in Cardiff

:59:33. > :59:36.and do something. At the moment, Edinburgh, I think, deserve to get

:59:37. > :59:41.more out of this game. They've not been as untidy as the Scarlets. The

:59:42. > :59:46.mistakes have given way to promise, more attacking, more confidence,

:59:47. > :59:50.ball in hand, a couple of injuries. If Edinburgh get points on the

:59:51. > :59:53.board, they will have a sniff in the second half. You sound like a man

:59:54. > :59:58.who has been there and done that, you were once written off in Cardiff

:59:59. > :00:03.and did something about it? We've all played, every Scottish player

:00:04. > :00:06.has been written off at almost every season or every time, then you try

:00:07. > :00:12.and prove people wrong. That is what happens. He is running rather

:00:13. > :00:19.gingerly... Here he is, having to take part now. He was shaking in his

:00:20. > :00:24.shoulders, not looking right. I wonder if we will see Blair Kinghorn

:00:25. > :00:28.a bit earlier than even we would have wanted or expected. He has a

:00:29. > :00:41.bit of something else. Hyde, a good off-load, Burleigh

:00:42. > :00:48.could have gone on. Five metres. Five metres, Fowles has it. In it

:00:49. > :00:52.goes. Five metres again, they need patience, they need precision. Their

:00:53. > :00:59.bodies everywhere at the moment, Edinburgh, try again. Scarlets, is

:01:00. > :01:04.the cry. Edinburgh pile in stock they have one of their players down

:01:05. > :01:07.on the 22 metre line, they go left, right, the middle. I think there are

:01:08. > :01:13.two Edinburgh players out of the action, that one we can see, I'm not

:01:14. > :01:22.sure who it is. Its Burleigh, not exactly running, I'm not sure who it

:01:23. > :01:26.is on the other side. Here is Tonks. Again, committing everything to the

:01:27. > :01:30.ruck there come in they go again, they are underneath the posts. It's

:01:31. > :01:37.the first time they've been in this range, in this territory. Another

:01:38. > :01:44.blast. Number eight per Morgan Allen, blocking the play, clearly.

:01:45. > :01:49.They have turned it over. He managed to get his body in the way and that

:01:50. > :01:54.is not a good kick, because this has come to Hoyland and he has got

:01:55. > :01:58.plenty of gas. He has come this way. He has hit a thick wall, which is

:01:59. > :02:04.called Van der Merwe. He went through it, to be fair to him. That

:02:05. > :02:09.was spectacular, Edinburgh have and the full condiment, I'm not sure

:02:10. > :02:16.they are all fit enough. -- full complement. Hamish Watson. Bang.

:02:17. > :02:23.Fowles, they need to bit quicker but it's a bit more direct from

:02:24. > :02:27.Edinburgh. -- they need it a bit quicker. Scarlets not committing too

:02:28. > :02:31.many men. There are a lot of them on this side but they are thin on the

:02:32. > :02:35.left, which is where Edinburgh are going. The crowd are shouting for

:02:36. > :02:40.crossing, and they are still thin on the far side, the Scarlets. Du Preez

:02:41. > :02:44.has spotted that. He has taken it in and they piling on top of him.

:02:45. > :02:55.Fowles will come this way. Watson is lining up under penalty to

:02:56. > :02:57.Edinburgh. A good spell, John. Yes, some of these Edinburgh players have

:02:58. > :03:00.turned up tonight. Toolis has turned up. That was a great break. You

:03:01. > :03:03.think of the way Tonks and Hoyland are running, and Burleigh, you have

:03:04. > :03:07.Fowles playing well. Edinburgh must be thinking, we deserve to have more

:03:08. > :03:11.out of this game. This is the break, this is Toolis, steps up, that's a

:03:12. > :03:18.lovely off-load and right through the gap and out to Coman, Coman gets

:03:19. > :03:23.it and gets injured here. No wonder. There was a split second when

:03:24. > :03:25.Burleigh was through when you thought if he had nicked his

:03:26. > :03:31.shoulder and gone right he might have gone the whole way himself,

:03:32. > :03:35.however, the end result is in Nathan Fowles' hands. The clock is going to

:03:36. > :03:40.run down. We made very well be seeing the last play of the first

:03:41. > :03:47.half. It looks like it. If you can spin this out long enough. It will

:03:48. > :03:58.be for Andrew Brace to decide whether we see anymore.

:03:59. > :04:08.He has hit the post, it was the final play and luckily the Scarlets

:04:09. > :04:12.the ball dropped in their lap. How hard is that, John? Just a quick

:04:13. > :04:18.mention for Hamish Watson and Hoyland, who both carried the ball.

:04:19. > :04:22.Edinburgh needed that kicks, needed that kick, 13-6 it would have been.

:04:23. > :04:26.It's the post. You need to do little things like stick points on the

:04:27. > :04:31.board. He was willing it over but they are still in play. He runs into

:04:32. > :04:36.Hamish Watson, Burleigh, there. Du Preez, there is still a chance. The

:04:37. > :04:47.ball is live, the clock is red. At the end of this passage of play, oh,

:04:48. > :04:49.that could be. In fact, that is it. Ending in the most horrible of ways

:04:50. > :04:52.and complete frustration for Edinburgh, just as they were

:04:53. > :04:56.beginning to turn the tide. A really good game, very competitive on both

:04:57. > :05:01.sides, with chances aplenty. Scarlets have converted the better

:05:02. > :05:05.bunch of the chances. They lead comfortably, but not overwhelmingly,

:05:06. > :05:10.it has to be said, adding Debra going with some hope, I would say,

:05:11. > :05:19.because the score as we have it is Scarlets 13, Edinburgh three --

:05:20. > :05:23.Edinburgh going with some hope. Edinburgh will be disappointed at

:05:24. > :05:28.the half wishing, putting pressure on the Scarlets side, if only they

:05:29. > :05:32.had got across the line it would be more competitive. All the analysis

:05:33. > :05:36.to come and we will look ahead to Scotland against Wales in the Six

:05:37. > :05:40.Nations as well but the Pro12 is up and running not just here but across

:05:41. > :05:41.the country. Glasgow are in action as well, up against Ulster. Let's

:05:42. > :05:43.see the updated scores. as well, up against Ulster. Let's

:05:44. > :05:49.see the updated scores. These latest scores. Connacht at the top of the

:05:50. > :05:55.Pro12, that was last night, finished by 26-21 at Rodney Parade. Leinster,

:05:56. > :06:01.who are currently in fourth place in the Pro12, running away with it

:06:02. > :06:04.against Zebre and Glasgow were 5-3 ahead against Ulster but have

:06:05. > :06:13.converted a try at the Kingspan, Glasgow are up against it. That much

:06:14. > :06:17.nicked off at 7:30pm. -- that match kicked off. Here at Scala Tupac --

:06:18. > :06:20.here at Scarlets' Park, what about kicked off. Here at Scala Tupac --

:06:21. > :06:25.here at Scarlets' Park, what about the Edinburgh point of view? A poor

:06:26. > :06:30.start, a slow start, but they worked their way back in the game and that

:06:31. > :06:34.last five minutes of the first half was symptomatic of maybe Scotland's

:06:35. > :06:37.rugby last week, they promised so much, they get to a good position,

:06:38. > :06:42.more than last week's Edinburgh should have scored, they should have

:06:43. > :06:46.had the composure to work the ball once they got in behind but Coman

:06:47. > :06:48.got tackled so short that they were five yards from the line. They

:06:49. > :06:53.should have had the composure to score a try, not just a penalty. As

:06:54. > :06:58.it turned out they didn't get anything any it might cost them in

:06:59. > :07:03.the second half. The last ten minutes of the first half and the

:07:04. > :07:05.first ten minutes of the second half of usually important and the

:07:06. > :07:06.beginning is hugely important, a poor start for Edinburgh.

:07:07. > :07:15.beginning is hugely important, a poor start for Edinburgh. It quickly

:07:16. > :07:17.lead to a try. The kick-off was misjudged. Van der Merwe loves to

:07:18. > :07:22.score tries, almost got one within ten seconds. This led to field

:07:23. > :07:26.position. This is a big long -- big long pass by Shingler. Hoyland does

:07:27. > :07:31.well in a sense, waiting and biding his time but he has to make a tackle

:07:32. > :07:39.and Morgan Allen goes in, we talked up before the game, a knows what

:07:40. > :07:43.he's doing, good pace. A big long pass, pass, Hoyland buys time, he is

:07:44. > :07:47.tracking back, wanting support there, he then has to make the

:07:48. > :07:50.tackle and he doesn't. There is a wait of up -- there is a bit of a

:07:51. > :07:53.weight differential bot Hoyland makes the tackle. A good finish. A

:07:54. > :07:59.class act. Look at the size of him. He was prominent early on but he got

:08:00. > :08:02.quieter as the half went on because Edinburgh managed to work their way

:08:03. > :08:06.back into the game. If you are going to score, concede a try, make sure

:08:07. > :08:11.it's early and it gives you a chance to get back. Moving the ball through

:08:12. > :08:17.well, fairly clinical, you see the white line coming up and unable to

:08:18. > :08:21.get over it? That was it, the was one chance, one opportunity and they

:08:22. > :08:25.took it. It was a Paul Stocker Edinburgh, not just straight off the

:08:26. > :08:29.kick-off, it was a few minutes later but testament to how poorly

:08:30. > :08:34.Edinburgh started the game -- it was a poor start for Edinburgh. There

:08:35. > :08:37.were poor set pieces, particularly the Edinburgh scrum, we don't have

:08:38. > :08:42.the international front row but not really capitalising on the

:08:43. > :08:46.dominance. It's still a very important that piece. You can see

:08:47. > :08:51.it's a penalty here for Edinburgh, but you know, look at the scoreline,

:08:52. > :08:56.13-3, they have not really taken advantage of having the platform.

:08:57. > :09:00.They get the penalty and there is a swirling wind but Burleigh has to

:09:01. > :09:04.find touch. That's missed by ten yards. Scarlets but in a good kick

:09:05. > :09:09.so instead of having an attacking line-out in the Scarlets' half, they

:09:10. > :09:14.are now defending their own line-out in their own 22. Must be frustrating

:09:15. > :09:18.for Alan Solomons, you can coach all week but if people are missing kicks

:09:19. > :09:22.to touch, it's frustrating. Basic mistakes, that is where frustration

:09:23. > :09:26.comes from. When you are struggling it is little things like that, you

:09:27. > :09:30.need to take the pace out of the game, kicked to touch, start the

:09:31. > :09:33.line-out, don't go for the miracle kick, get into touch and get the

:09:34. > :09:37.game started again. There were moments in the first half from an

:09:38. > :09:40.Edinburgh point of view where they moved it reasonably well, no killer

:09:41. > :09:45.touch at the end but maybe something to look forward to in the

:09:46. > :09:48.second-half potentially? This game off Scarlets line-out, some good

:09:49. > :09:54.passive here, there is space. There is good energy the team and Tom

:09:55. > :09:57.Brown gets a good hand off, gets away, and you can see exactly what

:09:58. > :10:01.he's trying to do, trying to off-load, which is the right thing

:10:02. > :10:06.to do but it wasn't as sympathetic as it needed to be. He does well

:10:07. > :10:10.here. He almost gets the ball in one hand, tries to off-load it to

:10:11. > :10:14.Michael Allen, and it just didn't go to hand. Maybe just too aggressive.

:10:15. > :10:17.This was another opportunity when Edinburgh, who got in behind, you

:10:18. > :10:21.can see the forwards are interacting with the backs. Again, they are

:10:22. > :10:27.setting up nicely, scanning, there is a good off-load from Toolis, a

:10:28. > :10:32.runaround from Burleigh. It comes to Coman, it gets to Coman, the sniper

:10:33. > :10:35.gets in there. This is the bit I was talking about, five yards from the

:10:36. > :10:39.line, quick ball, this has to be converted into a try. That's the

:10:40. > :10:42.really frustrating thing because Edinburgh, we are both standing

:10:43. > :10:46.screaming at that action towards the end of the half, they wanted to get

:10:47. > :10:50.the ball into hand and moving, there were extra men over on the right

:10:51. > :10:54.wing and the ball wasn't getting there. When you get so far in behind

:10:55. > :10:58.the defence and that close to the line you have to make good decisions

:10:59. > :11:02.because there will be gaps. Everyone is scanning, not just Phil Burleigh,

:11:03. > :11:06.everyone is offering the right line, the right angle and executing the

:11:07. > :11:10.passes. That should have been uneasy walking try. As it turned out they

:11:11. > :11:14.got the opportunity for three points but unfortunately they didn't take

:11:15. > :11:19.it. We will talk about the second half in a few minutes but everyone

:11:20. > :11:22.is here, all the Edinburgh fans here in Wales are going to Cardiff

:11:23. > :11:26.tomorrow, whether they have a ticket or not, are going to the pub, they

:11:27. > :11:29.are going to the Scotland game in the Six Nations and how important

:11:30. > :11:33.that will be after a disappointing start last week after the excitement

:11:34. > :11:36.of the World Cup, to put such a poor performance against average in

:11:37. > :11:44.Glenside, Murrayfield was such a difficult start for Scotland, was it

:11:45. > :11:48.not? You have, it was -- it was, it was a poor performance. We haven't

:11:49. > :11:51.got the luxury of being slightly off our game and still winning games,

:11:52. > :11:55.that's what needs to happen tomorrow, a better performance. I

:11:56. > :11:59.think we will, we will be better because we have had one game and we

:12:00. > :12:03.slow starters. We have only ever won once the opening weekend of the Six

:12:04. > :12:08.Nations, an incredible start, but we are always better in the second

:12:09. > :12:17.game. We will need to be. I thought Wales away was the heart of our

:12:18. > :12:20.first two games, here we are tomorrow, we have that. They are a

:12:21. > :12:23.good side, settled, dangerous, they have power throughout the team and a

:12:24. > :12:27.really good backs. Two years ago when Stuart Holbert got sent off,

:12:28. > :12:31.that was a sobering afternoon, so we won't see that tomorrow I don't

:12:32. > :12:35.think, we will see a game, two teams wanting to play and that will suit

:12:36. > :12:38.Scotland. Let's look at the things Scotland will have to improve on

:12:39. > :12:43.because there were chances against England but not clinical enough.

:12:44. > :12:47.Maybe we are seeing that night with Edinburgh. Look again how close

:12:48. > :12:51.Scotland are. It's all about making the right decisions, right to take

:12:52. > :13:02.it in there, Johnny Gray, but Billy Vunipola gets a good position and

:13:03. > :13:06.has to release it and it squirts out the side. You could argue it could

:13:07. > :13:09.be a penalty but it's all about securing the ball and compound the

:13:10. > :13:12.mistake by giving away a penalty to England. They clear the lines and go

:13:13. > :13:15.away. This was a line-out drive, I Denton at the back, Hardy is in

:13:16. > :13:19.control. Do they get it going forward? Greig Laidlaw is

:13:20. > :13:25.controlling it, Glasgow use the move a lot with Tommy Seymour coming off,

:13:26. > :13:29.it's a good move, he gets in behind but Jonathan Joseph makes a good

:13:30. > :13:32.play here. You will see it from a different angle, very physical in

:13:33. > :13:36.defence and strips the ball. It wasn't just the fact he stopped

:13:37. > :13:40.Tommy Seymour, look at the blue shirts behind. Tommy Seymour was

:13:41. > :13:45.trying to get his hands free and he has been off-loading it here. This

:13:46. > :13:47.was before half-time, 7-6 down, the clock has turned red, fin muscle

:13:48. > :13:53.gets in the right position. These are the key moments. He's that Wash

:13:54. > :13:56.snatches this, he hasn't got a goal in International Rugby Board but the

:13:57. > :14:02.difference they're going in 9-7 ahead would have been different. It

:14:03. > :14:06.was the one opportunity, he stumbled here, I don't think he saw Stuart

:14:07. > :14:13.Hall outside him, he didn't see George Ford. If he goes to Cup hobby

:14:14. > :14:17.he scores it, if he keeps it in, he wins the foot race. It was

:14:18. > :14:23.unfortunate, what happens. One change, Taylor in at 12, Matt Scott

:14:24. > :14:29.out injured but fair enough from Vern Cotter? Would you make many

:14:30. > :14:33.changes yourself? This time last week this was the best team Scotland

:14:34. > :14:36.card put out, with Matt Taylor in there it's the right call. They

:14:37. > :14:39.didn't play well, give them another chance. If they don't perform

:14:40. > :14:43.tomorrow, make changes. Duncan Taylor in the Matt Scott, much of a

:14:44. > :14:48.muchness, Duncan Taylor has been playing really well for Saracens.

:14:49. > :14:51.That match up against Jamie Roberts tomorrow will be outstanding because

:14:52. > :14:56.Jamie Roberts up last week was against Ireland was unbelievable. So

:14:57. > :15:02.physical, none of us would fancy playing against him, he's such a

:15:03. > :15:07.monster. Let's talk about Lin Russell, during the World Cup he was

:15:08. > :15:12.such a star, last season for Glasgow he was such a star, maybe he is off

:15:13. > :15:16.the boil and I imagine Scotland will need a big performance from him who

:15:17. > :15:21.are quality players. It doesn't happen individually with Finn

:15:22. > :15:24.Russell. It was because we didn't get quick ball and that is what

:15:25. > :15:28.every team is looking for. Every attacking team is looking for quick

:15:29. > :15:33.ball, every defensive side wants to slow down quick ball. England did

:15:34. > :15:35.that very well. We said it was poor decision-making last week for

:15:36. > :15:43.Scotland, which it was. It doesn't just mean macro to Russell, it was

:15:44. > :15:48.everyone, -- Finn Russell. It's about supporting in the right way.

:15:49. > :15:53.It's a collective. Another week's training, the accuracy has to be

:15:54. > :15:57.better. That was what was poor, in contact, when Johnny Greg took it

:15:58. > :16:01.in, the accuracy, we lost ball and contact more often than not last

:16:02. > :16:04.week and that is poor. We will see better decisions I think. When

:16:05. > :16:08.Scotland play and unstructured off-loading game, which we saw in

:16:09. > :16:13.the World Cup, that is when Finn Russell comes into his own. That's

:16:14. > :16:17.what we need to see tomorrow, Scotland doing what they do best.

:16:18. > :16:20.That means we can score tries and Blues the game and there is no shame

:16:21. > :16:24.because Wales is a good side but I want to see Scotland produced the

:16:25. > :16:28.rugby we know they can. What we saw last Saturday was not bad.

:16:29. > :16:32.Absolutely, we will talk more about the opening Wales and Scotland game

:16:33. > :16:36.after this match, because the teams are coming back onto the pitch,

:16:37. > :16:41.Edinburgh behind 13-3. Can they turn this around? Do they have it within

:16:42. > :16:46.them to win the game? Definitely, you know you should have scored a

:16:47. > :16:55.try in the changing room, it can be a positive... Keep doing what they

:16:56. > :16:59.are doing. 13-3, it is teetering. If they get another try and it gets to

:17:00. > :17:04.20-3 the game is over but Edinburgh must get the first score. That's

:17:05. > :17:08.where you keep the scoreboard ticking over and have the final

:17:09. > :17:11.assault on the second half of the second half. Edinburgh can win this.

:17:12. > :17:14.They have just got to have the composure when they get in behind,

:17:15. > :17:18.defensively they have to be rock-solid and not give away that

:17:19. > :17:21.easily try they did early on, or the easy possession. They can still win

:17:22. > :17:27.this but they have to play better than they did. Glasgow scored a late

:17:28. > :17:33.try to get a losing bonus point in Ulster. Scarlets against Edinburgh,

:17:34. > :17:35.13-3, John Beattie and Hugh Dan MacLennan will take you through the

:17:36. > :17:37.second half. COMMENTATOR:

:17:38. > :17:42.I don't think as far as we can see any changes to the teams at the

:17:43. > :17:46.moment. We will run through that as Greig Tonks gets Edinburgh under way

:17:47. > :17:53.again. Edinburgh now playing from right to left, Tonks, we were a bit

:17:54. > :17:57.uncertain about his fitness as he left the field at the end of the

:17:58. > :18:00.first half so we will keep an eye on him. Interestingly, the Edinburgh

:18:01. > :18:07.substitutes all warming up quite visibly -- bitterly at half-time.

:18:08. > :18:11.Both sides as they -- bitterly at half-time, both sides as they were.

:18:12. > :18:19.Neil Cochrane was lost to a head assessment. George Turner warming

:18:20. > :18:25.up. Tonks off is a backhand to the most important of the threats from

:18:26. > :18:30.Edinburgh, Tom Brown tonight. The engine room, and -- Anton Bresler

:18:31. > :18:33.and Ben Toolis, have been putting themselves about quite fashionably

:18:34. > :18:39.tonight. Burleigh has threatened occasionally. Fowles, who hit the

:18:40. > :18:43.post in the last minute, what a difference that might have made.

:18:44. > :18:50.Hamish Watson has given it the full afterburners. And blasted his way

:18:51. > :18:55.through. We need a bit more of that, I would think, because Edinburgh

:18:56. > :19:01.have regained a bit more momentum. Fowles is borrowing for it and an

:19:02. > :19:06.interference there. The referee now in a crucial position. Andrew Brace

:19:07. > :19:13.have settled for the penalty, and that must be a straightforward shot

:19:14. > :19:17.at goal, at this stage in the game. Hamish Watson is having a great

:19:18. > :19:23.game, carrying the ball, sending players away, and Nathan Fowles

:19:24. > :19:27.well, you can't the ball out of a player's hands, a nice little

:19:28. > :19:31.backflip there from Tonks, a lot more players doing that and Brown

:19:32. > :19:36.looking good but Hamish Watson, he carries the wall, -- every time he

:19:37. > :19:41.carries the ball he gets the second tackle and these are key moments.

:19:42. > :19:44.You can get this up to 13-6 and I think Edinburgh started off really

:19:45. > :19:49.spritely. They have carried the ball quickly into contact, got the ball

:19:50. > :19:54.back quickly. I think he is having a good game. I think Fowles has been

:19:55. > :19:58.at almost every breakdown, fed the ball back well. He's going to finish

:19:59. > :20:03.the job now, one hope. A fairly straightforward kick.

:20:04. > :20:12.Takes as much time as he needed and he was allowed because that has

:20:13. > :20:15.caused a few questions to Scarlets in the opening minutes of the second

:20:16. > :20:19.half. The penalty has taken Edinburgh to seven points behind the

:20:20. > :20:36.Scarlets. The Scarlets lead, 13-6. So the Scarlets substitutes, fly

:20:37. > :20:43.half number 22 Alan Thomas will replace Shingler -- Aled Thomas. A

:20:44. > :20:46.fraction of uncertainty there, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence

:20:47. > :20:51.when you see the players just standing, waiting for somebody to

:20:52. > :20:57.take charge of the situation in the kick-off. Fowles hoists it. A decent

:20:58. > :21:06.chase. Who else, Mr Watson. I presume. Against -- again, slipping

:21:07. > :21:13.too many tackles, Edinburgh. This is a threat, this is a threat, a

:21:14. > :21:16.wonderful tackle by Fowles. A bit high, but did the business, it

:21:17. > :21:20.stopped and that has taken the momentum away that was within

:21:21. > :21:28.inches, within a pace or two of having got Scarlets back and ahead

:21:29. > :21:32.in the game. Yes, he's complaining Edinburgh, it started with Morgan

:21:33. > :21:35.Allen's break camp this break by Williams, Rhodri Williams right

:21:36. > :21:39.through, tackled by his opposite man. Watch this, he runs through

:21:40. > :21:45.between two people, keeps the ball in hand. He's a live wire. We've got

:21:46. > :21:50.a couple of injuries, which gives you a chance to give you the final

:21:51. > :21:58.score from the Kingspan in Ulster, Ulster 13, Glasgow ten. A late try

:21:59. > :22:06.therefore Glasgow has won them a bonus point, when they were ahead

:22:07. > :22:13.for such a while, but it looks like 32, it is 52 Leinster and nil to a

:22:14. > :22:17.Zebre. Not a bad effort from Glasgow. Pretty good, people forget

:22:18. > :22:21.Glasgow have games in hand. A difficult start, they have lost so

:22:22. > :22:25.many players to the World Cup squad. I think the beauty of tonight's game

:22:26. > :22:29.is aside from him, Williams playing well, we are seeing the next

:22:30. > :22:33.generation of Scottish players. Sutherland, the loosehead was

:22:34. > :22:45.injured, this lad has something, for a young man he doesn't want to be

:22:46. > :22:53.covering, he is off forest edge. -- he is off, for a stitch. We have

:22:54. > :22:59.Allan Dell coming on, number 17. He will get some stitching on Rory

:23:00. > :23:02.Sutherland's die. Not too happy, going off because there is a

:23:03. > :23:05.suggestion Edinburgh were beginning to turn the tide there. We will

:23:06. > :23:11.presume this is a blood replacement at the moment. I think Edinburgh

:23:12. > :23:18.need to contain the number eight Morgan Allen. He started off the

:23:19. > :23:23.last incursion, with a really powerful tackle, powerful break.

:23:24. > :23:28.He's the guy who has done Edinburgh most damage apart from Steven

:23:29. > :23:31.Shingler, who went off with the unfortunate, we were assuming, but

:23:32. > :23:37.it looked as if he had turned his ankle in a similar way to Dan Biggar

:23:38. > :23:42.in the previous week, so below is on the bench Rory Sutherland is being

:23:43. > :23:49.patched up. It doesn't look YKC Ring a century. It's one of these -- it

:23:50. > :23:53.doesn't look like a serious injury. It's a spurting cut, just above the

:23:54. > :23:57.eyebrow. Edinburgh need a good scrum, they need to exit this

:23:58. > :24:02.territory and the scrum has been one of their strongest suits tonight.

:24:03. > :24:07.It's not that lightly. That is not what they needed. It's definitely

:24:08. > :24:19.not what Edinburgh needed. They would have targeted Allan Dell

:24:20. > :24:23.there, John. It wasn't Dell. Scrum is usually go backwards when the

:24:24. > :24:27.tight head goes backwards. So Andress, far side, they are claiming

:24:28. > :24:32.here, they claim, Andress went down on his knees, Shingler pointed and

:24:33. > :24:38.that will have been a call from the assistant referee was given the

:24:39. > :24:46.call. Again, it's like a cabbage patch away over on the far side

:24:47. > :24:51.there. The end result is another penalty to the Scarlets. They have

:24:52. > :25:00.taken it back beyond the 22 metre line. The chance now for Aled

:25:01. > :25:12.Thomas. He has given it a good kick, that's

:25:13. > :25:17.more than enough there, more than enough to restore the three points

:25:18. > :25:26.back to a 13 point advantage. For the Scarlets. Comfortably taken

:25:27. > :25:30.penalty by man who slots in, no more than we would expect, so we have

:25:31. > :25:36.Scarlets 16, Edinburgh six, John. Edinburgh can't afford to let the

:25:37. > :25:39.Scarlets become dominant. Having dominated the scrums, then to give

:25:40. > :25:53.away a penalty at scrum time is incongruous. Du Preez, Burleigh, who

:25:54. > :26:00.said as he chased Du Preez, under it. A case could be made that he was

:26:01. > :26:06.blocked there. Again, the Scarlets exit strategy is good although the

:26:07. > :26:13.kicking is not as good. The uncertainty under the high ball, the

:26:14. > :26:16.wind tossing it. Just a lack of strategy here from Edinburgh,

:26:17. > :26:22.because it is kick and chase, kick and hope. This might run, but

:26:23. > :26:29.Burleigh has decided he will just deal with it. Sticking with some

:26:30. > :26:35.length and some accuracy this time. -- kicking. Making sure he made good

:26:36. > :26:40.ground and calling a halt to the ping pong. A bit of aerial ping

:26:41. > :26:46.pong. Sutherland coming back on. The difference between the two teams has

:26:47. > :26:51.been a couple of missed tackles. First of all gave Scarlets the first

:26:52. > :26:56.try, a missed tackle, a good threaded pass and then Williams

:26:57. > :27:02.through between two tackles, nearly got them the chance with the

:27:03. > :27:05.penalty. Edinburgh's defence, which is normally first-class, tonight,

:27:06. > :27:11.you can coach all you like and two players missed tackles. These are

:27:12. > :27:18.the fine margins which decides games. Rhodri Williams tanks it

:27:19. > :27:22.again, keeping it in play quite deliberately, Tonks. Edinburgh have

:27:23. > :27:28.clearly decided to take the aerial route for a while. It was a good

:27:29. > :27:36.chase because they have territory, but Scarlets again weaving their way

:27:37. > :27:39.through. Slipshod defending. Look at that. Even Hamish Watson couldn't

:27:40. > :27:47.cope with that, but he is back in there. Goodness me, he gives it

:27:48. > :27:53.everything. Here they come. They have men out on the right this time.

:27:54. > :28:02.Haven't seen too much of Gareth Owen. He has moved from centre in

:28:03. > :28:06.his last outing, too right wing. -- to the right wing. A better

:28:07. > :28:12.challenge from Edinburgh. A quick rush in the defence. Scarlets

:28:13. > :28:19.stretching them left and right, left and right and this time it is left.

:28:20. > :28:24.It has broken down at Van der Merwe, a high tackle. By which time the

:28:25. > :28:29.whistle had gone. It's just a bit broken, but this could actually suit

:28:30. > :28:33.anyone of a number of speed merchants who could pick up the ball

:28:34. > :28:37.and just take off. Could do. The player that has impressed me is the

:28:38. > :28:42.Scarlets number two, who is down injured, Kirby Myhill. Regan King,

:28:43. > :28:47.we know he is class, but the hooker, that's a knock-on by Van der Merwe

:28:48. > :28:53.but time I will get fit he doesn't look like a modern-day hawker, a

:28:54. > :28:59.squat five up to six foot two inches, he is playing. He doesn't

:29:00. > :29:04.look like a hooker, running well, and he has something in Regan King.

:29:05. > :29:12.There is Myhill, he doesn't have a modern look,... Fantastic nobility,

:29:13. > :29:18.not many people will give Hamish Watson ambush like that and get away

:29:19. > :29:23.with it. Hamish didn't get back on his feet very quickly and deal with

:29:24. > :29:26.it, in his own way -- he did get back on his feet very quickly. A

:29:27. > :29:32.finely balanced game, it's been a good game. An open game, dry ground,

:29:33. > :29:35.dry ball, pitch gives a bit, the scrums have been fascinating. The

:29:36. > :29:39.line-outs have been few and far between because they have mostly

:29:40. > :29:45.kicked for territory and both back divisions are attacking, so you have

:29:46. > :29:48.a real matter of both teams trying to play the same type of game. They

:29:49. > :29:54.are desperate for the points because they know there is going to be no

:29:55. > :29:57.margin of error now. You see what Leinster have done, Leinster and

:29:58. > :30:01.Munster ominously have games in hand, as do Glasgow to a degree but

:30:02. > :30:06.here, Edinburgh have it. A good break up the medal on the shoulder,

:30:07. > :30:10.the short pass. Moving it through and the Edinburgh subs beginning to

:30:11. > :30:16.warm up, at pace pillow was here. This is a good break on the far

:30:17. > :30:22.side, cutting inside. -- at pace here. He was tripped possibly, there

:30:23. > :30:25.was half a claim. That could be very interesting, the referee is not

:30:26. > :30:29.getting any guidance from the touchline and he is happy to let

:30:30. > :30:34.that go. That would be interesting, to see that a game, if we could,

:30:35. > :30:39.whether Hoyland was taken down or partially taken down. There was a

:30:40. > :30:43.clear attempt to obstruct him, to hold his progress. It came from an

:30:44. > :30:47.amazing off-load almost on the own 22 as they ran out from defence and

:30:48. > :30:52.then Hoyland was through, whether he was tripped I didn't see. I doubt it

:30:53. > :30:56.otherwise there would have been more of a noise. Hoyland still thinking

:30:57. > :31:01.of what he nearly did, but meanwhile Scarlets, look at the way the ball

:31:02. > :31:05.is playing off the ground. It's extraordinary how hard it is under

:31:06. > :31:12.the surface and that is clearly kept in play by the Number ten.

:31:13. > :31:25.He stayed back in Tonks position. He left it very late. One or two of the

:31:26. > :31:30.Scarlets, Van Der Merwe on the side, hands on his knees, he does not look

:31:31. > :31:35.too great. Here we have the first of the Edinburgh substitutions. Dougie

:31:36. > :31:41.Fife, and I think John Kennedy, are going to come on together. It would

:31:42. > :31:49.appear that way to me. Dougie Fife is the first player. He's come on,

:31:50. > :31:57.and Sean Kennedy, replacing fouls at scrum-half. A straight swap. Hoyland

:31:58. > :32:06.has been replaced by Dougie Fife -- replacing fouls at scrum-half.

:32:07. > :32:11.Plenty of experience for both. A different type of play-off for Sean

:32:12. > :32:16.Kennedy. Here, the Scarlets are coming, it is a bit slack, behind

:32:17. > :32:21.Van Der Merwe, a good chase by Edinburgh. They have it, I think.

:32:22. > :32:26.But the Scarlets have the numbers, and Williams decides that he will

:32:27. > :32:31.send it along. A chance for Edinburgh to clear the line. That

:32:32. > :32:38.has been successful. A bit of experience coming into play. The

:32:39. > :32:42.ruck that we just saw was a chance for Edinburgh to win the ball back,

:32:43. > :32:50.they did not all fire in, the Scarlets came back and they got the

:32:51. > :33:00.ball back. To list is playing well, they are getting the ball. --

:33:01. > :33:04.Toolis. They cannot break the defensive line the way that the

:33:05. > :33:21.scholars have done. -- the Scarlets. Rhodri Jones... The

:33:22. > :33:25.number 18. When they go on a rumble, Edinburgh are finding it difficult

:33:26. > :33:34.to hold momentum when they get the ball and they steam-rolled through.

:33:35. > :33:39.Hamish Watson is going to get an ear wiggling, he said something there,

:33:40. > :33:46.clearly. He puts on self there, he's got to get out, if he does that

:33:47. > :33:52.again, he's leaving the field. That was pretty blunt. I don't know what

:33:53. > :33:56.he said. Excuse me, that was a bad decision? Maybe not! Anyway, a

:33:57. > :34:05.penalty to the Scarlets, that could be costly. These are the moments

:34:06. > :34:08.that offer an opportunity to 18 to put clear water between them and the

:34:09. > :34:15.other team, at the moment, this scoreline is not a done deal -- a

:34:16. > :34:22.team. This is when the coaches would get furious. He tries to drag him to

:34:23. > :34:27.the side. He is held there... The damage was done, and what he said

:34:28. > :34:33.afterwards... I think so. He'd already given away the penalty.

:34:34. > :34:41.Those extra ten metres. Playing into Aled Thomas's hands. Or more

:34:42. > :34:53.precisely, his right boot. That's 80% plus. He delivers, for sure.

:34:54. > :34:58.He's taken Scarlets further ahead, 19-6. The game is slipping away from

:34:59. > :35:04.Edinburgh. It is self-inflicted. That was a penalty given away. Then

:35:05. > :35:09.to talk back to the referee. Scrum dominance is not what it was, in the

:35:10. > :35:14.last scrum, they gave away a penalty. The Scarlets have upped the

:35:15. > :35:20.tempo. Edinburgh have taken a step back, I think, it is fair to say.

:35:21. > :35:27.But they aren't out of it. Tonks, this is another good break. Tom

:35:28. > :35:35.Brown. He has had a storm. He's been a lecturer, breaking the line most

:35:36. > :35:40.times. -- he's been electric. He's hit the pace on the dial that

:35:41. > :35:46.Edinburgh needed. Bernie Mac delivers to du Preez.

:35:47. > :36:11.A suggestion of crossing in the middle. A bit of a bust up... Still

:36:12. > :36:15.going on. Meanwhile, play is raging below us here. The afters are

:36:16. > :36:22.finished but there is an injury. Hamish Watson? One of his own

:36:23. > :36:27.players came in to ruck someone. I think he got caught. That was my

:36:28. > :36:33.reading of it. He's had a great game apart from that penalty. I think the

:36:34. > :36:36.Edinburgh backs had been playing well as well. They've been cutting,

:36:37. > :36:42.sometimes getting through. Another change coming for the Edinburgh

:36:43. > :36:48.side. Jamie Ritchie. One of the under 20 players. This could be very

:36:49. > :36:55.interesting. Let's see what happens here, when we sought Watson out on

:36:56. > :37:01.the far side. I think it will be for Watson, he gave away the penalty. It

:37:02. > :37:05.is taking a long time. Here he is in possession. Then, that happened and

:37:06. > :37:10.he did not look too happy. It may have been the previous ruck. I think

:37:11. > :37:17.it was Rory Sullivan who knotted him in the back of the head by accident.

:37:18. > :37:21.The joys of being a professional rugby player! It's that feeling, the

:37:22. > :37:26.worst feeling in the world as the Sunday morning, but for him it will

:37:27. > :37:33.be Friday morning! He's had a bang on the head and the nose. No matter

:37:34. > :37:38.how hard you train, it takes its toll. There is nothing like playing.

:37:39. > :37:43.Even the pros tell you, they train and train, someone wax them in the

:37:44. > :37:48.game, and all of the air goes out of your lungs and the energy goes. You

:37:49. > :37:55.watch these guys, he's played really well. -- somebody hits you in the

:37:56. > :38:03.game. He is 18 or 19 stone, they whack into each other, and run on.

:38:04. > :38:09.Let's go to Andy Nichol for a view on where we are. 25 minutes to go.

:38:10. > :38:14.19-6, the scoreboard does not look good at the moment. Coman, the

:38:15. > :38:18.captain, has to get the team together and have communication to

:38:19. > :38:22.say that the belief is still there to win it. What they will do next,

:38:23. > :38:27.and what they have to do. I've been watching them, they go to ones and

:38:28. > :38:30.twos, if you look at the scoreboard, they have to get everyone together

:38:31. > :38:34.and say this is what we will do, and how we will win the game. Look

:38:35. > :38:37.everyone in the iron and nature or everyone knows exactly what is

:38:38. > :38:43.expected. I would like to have seen more leadership in those five

:38:44. > :38:52.minutes. We are going to see some changes. It looks like the other

:38:53. > :38:56.Toolis boy is coming in as well. This game can still be won, but they

:38:57. > :39:07.have two upped their game, and play error-free and disciplined. -- they

:39:08. > :39:13.have to up their game. The captain is coming off, Mike Coman. What Andy

:39:14. > :39:20.was saying was a good description of someone like Keller, who would have

:39:21. > :39:26.commanded that situation. The Toolis twins are back on. The Scarlets are

:39:27. > :39:29.benefiting from some ricochets. Watson is away. We have Jamie

:39:30. > :39:37.Ritchie at number 20 who has come on in his place. Burleigh, we

:39:38. > :39:48.understand, has taken the captain's responsibilities. Tonks... Dougie

:39:49. > :39:53.Fife was looking for some action. Du Preez, appearing on the right-hand

:39:54. > :39:58.side quite a lot now. Rory Sutherland has covered every tune of

:39:59. > :40:05.the sand, that is part of the Scarlets. In some patches, better

:40:06. > :40:12.possession and movement of the ball, a cutting run again by Sam Beard who

:40:13. > :40:19.has looked very sharp tonight. Burleigh, treading water Tonks

:40:20. > :40:23.delivers a better pass. Mike Allen cuts through. Here is a chance for

:40:24. > :40:31.Edinburgh! Raking through, it's a good tackle. -- breaking. Edinburgh

:40:32. > :40:36.are rumbling towards the line to the left. Within the 22 metres. Here

:40:37. > :40:43.they come, stretching into the left and up the middle three Mike Allen

:40:44. > :40:52.again. Sean Kennedy to Sam Beard. Tops was too far away. He takes it

:40:53. > :40:59.on himself. -- Tonks. The ball is loose. We have two metres to go...

:41:00. > :41:06.The Scarlets have pinched it. Within metres of their own line. This is

:41:07. > :41:14.great play from Edinburgh. Turner... What a bit of speed it was from the

:41:15. > :41:18.hooker. He comes on. Those two centres, Beard and Allen are making

:41:19. > :41:21.inroads through the midfield. You have the young boys on, a bunch of

:41:22. > :41:29.young boys. They've taken the captain off because he has signed

:41:30. > :41:35.for someone else. Playing with London Irish, wherever he has gone,

:41:36. > :41:44.get him off the pitch. You have a couple in the middle, Toolis in the

:41:45. > :41:48.middle, Toolis on the back. Richie is on as well, it is the next

:41:49. > :41:54.generation. It is good. The two wingers have been impressive, Tom

:41:55. > :41:59.Brown has had an incisive game. Dougie Fife is contributing now.

:42:00. > :42:07.He's come on. The icing on the cake would be to give Kinghorn a run. A

:42:08. > :42:14.lot of openings and spaces are appearing. Young Adam Hastings, as

:42:15. > :42:27.well, Gavin's boy is playing for a part. Edinburgh have it! Rock and

:42:28. > :42:32.roll towards the line... Du Preez off-loads two metres. Piling in,

:42:33. > :42:38.Sean Kennedy is held. That is a penalty. A penalty is coming.

:42:39. > :42:50.Kennedy goes in. Pre-'s Mac is in. A try is given. -- Dupre

:42:51. > :43:00.the ball was delivered straight to du Preez. The Scarlets were

:43:01. > :43:04.cheating, they had been offside, du Preez goes through, and that was a

:43:05. > :43:09.great try. Do you know what is clever about that? He went between

:43:10. > :43:13.two players. He had to encourage those players to tackle, look how

:43:14. > :43:19.low he goes, and how powerful he is. It is very clever. I'm sure even

:43:20. > :43:23.Andy Nichol would have been impressed with that pass, it was the

:43:24. > :43:27.perfect height for him to take it on at that level, and it was good

:43:28. > :43:31.refereeing that allows the play to continue. Let's ask Andy Nichol what

:43:32. > :43:38.he thinks? Good play from Edinburgh, a good finish from du Preez, Sean

:43:39. > :43:43.Kennedy passed it, this kit is important. That is good play,

:43:44. > :43:50.they've got back in the game -- a good kick that is important. We said

:43:51. > :44:00.it earlier that this can easily be one. -- won. At the moment, the

:44:01. > :44:07.future looks bright for Edinburgh. They have two converts to win today

:44:08. > :44:14.in this tight game. This could be huge for Edinburgh if they turn it

:44:15. > :44:17.around, Tonks was one fitter drift as we settle in behind him again. --

:44:18. > :44:37.one foot adrift. As we approach the hour, 20 minutes

:44:38. > :44:44.left, there is a lot of rugby left. The number seven for the Scarlets

:44:45. > :44:51.has gone. The game is the taking. It is a stunning match. The key thing

:44:52. > :44:57.about the kick was 19-11 would have been 19-13, a score in a conversion

:44:58. > :45:09.game. They have had the territorial, I think they've had a glimmer of the

:45:10. > :45:17.way to play the game. Here come the Scarlets. Something of a tackle

:45:18. > :45:22.there from Jamie Ritchie, his head was in the right place. Scarlets go

:45:23. > :45:34.out to the left again come using the full width, the Scarlets here.

:45:35. > :45:38.Edinburgh have a good chase. Good tackling, holding the Scarlets at

:45:39. > :45:45.midfield. Tempting them to make a mistake and try some thing

:45:46. > :45:49.ambitious. A good tackle again. Below, we can see the number 17 for

:45:50. > :45:57.Edinburgh. That was loose a turnover. Du Preez has taken it,

:45:58. > :46:05.Edinburgh have won it. They are beginning to play with some

:46:06. > :46:10.certainty now. Burleigh goes for territory. That is a beauty, if it

:46:11. > :46:15.runs... And it does. The Scarlets had no option but to let it run. It

:46:16. > :46:28.was bobbling around like a cork at sea. Number 17 Allendale comes on,

:46:29. > :46:31.Simon Bergen comes on at 18. The front row will empty. They've given

:46:32. > :46:38.it a decent shift, the front row. The whole team has. They all deserve

:46:39. > :46:44.something from this. That was great defence. I watched the defensive

:46:45. > :46:47.line of the Scarlets attack, James Ritchie gave a couple of good

:46:48. > :46:57.tackles, getting the young boys involved. They are attacking. 18 and

:46:58. > :47:10.17 are on. Allan Dell and Simon Bergen for Edinburgh.

:47:11. > :47:18.It's a chance for Edinburgh to run at pace. It is a good break. Dougie

:47:19. > :47:27.Fife this time, the senior player stepping up to help. They are

:47:28. > :47:30.beginning to pay their debts, the forwards have given them a decent

:47:31. > :47:37.chance of retrieving the game. They have nothing at the moment. They

:47:38. > :47:44.don't even have a bonus. The Scarlets pinch it, but they are

:47:45. > :47:48.penalised. Penalised at midfield. A couple of things, the Scarlets have

:47:49. > :47:55.lazy runners sometimes, the man of the match, Morgan Allen, taking

:47:56. > :47:59.someone off the ball. Edinburgh doing the attacking, this is

:48:00. > :48:07.encouraging. Having a think. I think he will put it in the corner. A

:48:08. > :48:10.little far out. As we go for the corner. Let's see if all of these

:48:11. > :48:22.hours of practice payoff. A line-out, five metres out. It wasn't

:48:23. > :48:27.me, referee! I'm very sorry, I'm so sorry I'm putting my hand up. I'm

:48:28. > :48:36.not sure what the Welsh 's, but I will look it up. This is a good

:48:37. > :48:47.chance for Ember. -- a good chance for Edinburgh. It needs delivery

:48:48. > :48:54.now... It needs cohesion, effort patients, and they have to tempt the

:48:55. > :48:55.Scarlets to bring them down. They need it recycled quickly. John

:48:56. > :49:11.Kennedy has it. Van Der exactly what we were saying. They

:49:12. > :49:18.needed patience, and they got neither. That pass was too hard. He

:49:19. > :49:26.was either thinking the player beyond... That is a hard pass, if it

:49:27. > :49:30.is him, it should be gently. You can tell from the reaction, when he gets

:49:31. > :49:43.up, keep your ion him. It is too hard. -- keep your ion him.

:49:44. > :49:58.It is an 8-point game at this stage. That is what they are looking at,

:49:59. > :50:04.the reverse angle. To be fair, Simon Berghan was coming close to the

:50:05. > :50:08.ruck, think about the Warriors, they are closer. Especially the

:50:09. > :50:11.opposition 22, the nine can take two or three defenders out with that

:50:12. > :50:20.pass, but that was a fine right hand. All of these new front row

:50:21. > :50:26.players that the referee is trying to convince, he has shifted them a

:50:27. > :50:31.little bit. That is more useful to Edinburgh, I think. Slightly off

:50:32. > :50:38.centre. On the left-hand side as the Edinburgh side attack. Tom Brown is

:50:39. > :50:43.lying deep... Tonks is halfway. But they don't have the ball. That is

:50:44. > :50:54.the problem, why they are lying back. A penalty to Edinburgh!

:50:55. > :50:59.Well... Underneath the post, Burleigh is indicating he wants a

:51:00. > :51:04.kick taken. Andy...? This is interesting, are they coming off?

:51:05. > :51:12.This is the right call to take the three points, Phil Burleigh has made

:51:13. > :51:16.the right call to getting, they should be looking at bonus point,

:51:17. > :51:23.this is for winning, the referee is looking at the Scarlets in the

:51:24. > :51:28.scrum. Edinburgh began strong, the Scarlets got the upper hand. They

:51:29. > :51:33.could come back with a score, and definitely win the game. You would

:51:34. > :51:38.not want to tempt fate, offered the left foot.

:51:39. > :51:52.-- off of the left foot. To go back to why that penalty was awarded, the

:51:53. > :51:58.pitch is not up to it. I'm looking left and I can see a small cabbage

:51:59. > :52:03.field where it has been churned up. 14 minutes left? Edinburgh could win

:52:04. > :52:07.it, a 5-point game, one score converted, and you win the match.

:52:08. > :52:16.You have to believe that you can do this. Burleigh gives it an almighty

:52:17. > :52:22.whack. But, it is enough to go over the line. I think the Scarlets were

:52:23. > :52:28.hoping that he is outside but he's nowhere near as I do the line. --

:52:29. > :52:31.here is nowhere near outside of the line.

:52:32. > :52:39.I think both centres have played exceptionally well tonight. Brown

:52:40. > :52:43.has played well. Nobody has played badly, especially away from home.

:52:44. > :52:48.This is a good performance. Up they come, the Scarlets take it in. They

:52:49. > :52:55.know that they need those points. They need that when, this league is

:52:56. > :53:02.so tight. A thundering tackle from Edinburgh. Trying to dislodge the

:53:03. > :53:07.ball on the ground, Van Der Merwe emerges from the pile. Edinburgh

:53:08. > :53:13.have two be careful, there is a crossing almost there, the dummy

:53:14. > :53:23.runner left to go. The referee is taking something from the touchline.

:53:24. > :53:31.The Scarlets go left, Edinburgh keep them in their own half. A decent

:53:32. > :53:36.start, this one is over the top. Tonks has to be careful, it has

:53:37. > :53:43.fallen nicely for him off of his left foot. A nice touch from Van Der

:53:44. > :53:51.Merwe, he takes a look. Up it goes. Now, who is brave enough? The wind

:53:52. > :54:00.catches up, du Preez takes it to Burleigh. A huge gap here? It is run

:54:01. > :54:05.too far. Has it gone the whole way? Not quite, there was a good chase.

:54:06. > :54:12.It goes over the dead-ball line. Alan Thomas cleverly placed his

:54:13. > :54:17.feet... That is the ball effectively over the line, it will be a scrum

:54:18. > :54:22.from where it is kicked, here on the ten metre line. They had to take 60

:54:23. > :54:30.metres. The referee hasn't spotted it, he's in the wrong place. That

:54:31. > :54:38.was the right decision, a brilliant kick from that swirling highball to

:54:39. > :54:41.Burleigh. It had to go to a corner. Dougie Fife had a good foot rest

:54:42. > :54:49.here, sometimes the ball keeps rolling. The Scarlets marshalled the

:54:50. > :54:54.ball well. Instead of being right deep in the Scarlets half, they have

:54:55. > :54:58.a scrum again, they had to defend. I've been impressed by the Edinburgh

:54:59. > :55:08.defence in the last five minutes, they are AG and there's a real

:55:09. > :55:12.belief they can do this. -- edgy. They have to get their hands on it

:55:13. > :55:23.again though. The referee is going to have words, I think. Again, you

:55:24. > :55:29.can see that he is moving them, so he's picked it up on the pitch? It

:55:30. > :55:32.is unfair on the referee to make the call, we don't know, they don't

:55:33. > :55:38.know, you can guess as to what has happened. Nobody actually knows

:55:39. > :55:44.unless someone is taking it down on purpose. I think Andy is spot on

:55:45. > :55:47.with defence, the Edinburgh defence has become more abrasive in this

:55:48. > :55:56.half. They need more of the ball attack. A penalty...? No. Just for a

:55:57. > :56:06.second, I thought he would reach for a card. But it seems he is going to

:56:07. > :56:11.have a word. The next time he collapses the scrum, he's going.

:56:12. > :56:18.Have a word. He's fingered Rhodri Jones, next time he does that, he is

:56:19. > :56:24.off. That could be interesting. We are arriving down the clock, here is

:56:25. > :56:32.our man Kinghorn warming up... As Tonks fires into the left. Are they

:56:33. > :56:39.going to take him off? There is someone limping, coming over, here

:56:40. > :56:43.is Mike Allen. Just looking at this collapse in the scrum. It changes

:56:44. > :56:52.made. Kinghorn has come for Edinburgh. For people who don't know

:56:53. > :57:01.who this lad is, we've watched him a few times, he has real gas. Let's

:57:02. > :57:07.have a word with Andy...? I can see that Kinghorn is going to the right

:57:08. > :57:15.wing, Dougie Fife is outside centre. A bit of a change around... Let's

:57:16. > :57:22.see how they cope with it. Not commanding the line-out. There is

:57:23. > :57:32.danger for the Scarlets under their own post. That was not a brave move.

:57:33. > :57:42.They have recycled it. They managed to get it down from the charge down.

:57:43. > :57:50.They tried it. Edinburgh are trying to keep it there. Down to 8.5

:57:51. > :57:55.minutes. Edinburgh on the chase. Again, they are charging down!

:57:56. > :58:02.Inches away from getting it over the line. They have the throw in. Van

:58:03. > :58:08.Der Merwe was eventually pressed into action. A disastrous period of

:58:09. > :58:14.play here for the Scarlets. A fantastic charge from Toolis, they

:58:15. > :58:18.going kicking and chasing. Van Der Merwe. Another charge. You can see

:58:19. > :58:24.how hungry the younger players are, but I think Van Der Merwe on

:58:25. > :58:33.sportingly threw the ball away. This is a big moment. -- unsportingly.

:58:34. > :58:40.The Scarlets were doing their best to get it away. Here they go, piling

:58:41. > :58:47.in. Here they come, it is another charge. A good leg. A wonderful

:58:48. > :58:53.charge from Hunter. Kennedy wants it on the left. Here they come... Held

:58:54. > :59:02.up again. They have men on the left and the right. Hunter takes it on.

:59:03. > :59:09.Hunter... Kennedy. A whiff of a gap. The Scarlets defending with all they

:59:10. > :59:13.can. Kennedy is pointing. Five metres and less, here they come

:59:14. > :59:23.again... The Scarlets are in a mad rush to get out. Stretching, Tom

:59:24. > :59:31.Brown is out on the left. Kennedy is going back to the right. Up they go!

:59:32. > :59:36.Half a step, five metres again. Kennedy is borrowing for the ball.

:59:37. > :59:43.Edinburgh are over! WHISTLE Edinburgh have broken the line, and

:59:44. > :59:51.turned the game. It is number 19, Alex to less, he has finally plunged

:59:52. > :59:56.over the line. -- Alex Toolis. It is now a level game, 19-19. Fantastic

:59:57. > :00:08.player! Watch this last pass. Kennedy looks right, he picks up du

:00:09. > :00:12.Preez, wonderful. Straight out of the book of slightly dodgy passes

:00:13. > :00:19.but it is fantastic. Slightly dodgy, uncoached but brilliant. We talked

:00:20. > :00:22.about when he scored the try, he attracted two defenders, going

:00:23. > :00:31.between two men, he passed the ball high over, this is deserved. I think

:00:32. > :00:34.the young boys, Turner, he's played well, and Kinghorn, Ritchie, a whole

:00:35. > :00:43.bunch of young Scottish boys. They are doing well. You want a left foot

:00:44. > :00:46.player out there. Tonks, we thought he would not see out the game with a

:00:47. > :00:58.chance to get Edinburgh ahead. He has given a terrific... Yes! Yes!

:00:59. > :01:02.Well, he took a long time. It was the second flag that went up,

:01:03. > :01:06.because the first one stayed firmly rooted, and it was the second flag

:01:07. > :01:15.that has run away, Edinburgh take the lead! Well, that is the width,

:01:16. > :01:24.the thickness of a Kamil Glik. You are supposed to be impartial! -- the

:01:25. > :01:30.thickness of a canopy. One Edinburgh Edinburgh lead by 21-19. Hang on in

:01:31. > :01:35.for five minutes, keep doing what they have been doing and win this

:01:36. > :01:38.match. Andy Nicol, give us a break. They have a leading position, it's a

:01:39. > :01:42.different dynamic, they are leading, they have to see the game out but

:01:43. > :01:48.they have to keep playing. What we have seen in the last ten minutes is

:01:49. > :01:51.playing at their best, they cannot just think about closing this game

:01:52. > :01:55.out, keep playing, keep exerting this pressure, which they have done

:01:56. > :02:01.so well, and they can win this game, definitely. Well, I can tell you our

:02:02. > :02:06.radio colleagues to our rights were on their feet there are! In their

:02:07. > :02:10.own impartial way. Here they come, Scarlets apace, they have it, roll

:02:11. > :02:17.the dice one more time. We still have four minutes to play. It needs

:02:18. > :02:23.cool heads, it needs bravery. They have a penalty, a penalty coming. A

:02:24. > :02:30.penalty coming. Scarlets have a penalty. 16 White, George Turner.

:02:31. > :02:36.Out is a call from the assistant referee, I can see him talking.

:02:37. > :02:41.That's a cheap penalty to give away. Well, it's called, no surprise there

:02:42. > :02:46.because anybody would do the same thing in the circumstances. It's

:02:47. > :02:51.exactly, doesn't it happen so often, John, a team turned the game around

:02:52. > :02:59.and then gives away a penalty, or is penalised, I should say? Two

:03:00. > :03:05.praises, maybe. Neither did Ritchie, two or three Edinburgh players were

:03:06. > :03:09.not on-site. Correct call. Its discipline, isn't it? I think both

:03:10. > :03:17.Richie and he were offside. The banker, Alan Thomas, you would have

:03:18. > :03:27.to say, could give this game another twist.

:03:28. > :03:39.Thomas, absolutely smashed it, nailed it. 22-21 to the Scarlets,

:03:40. > :03:44.it's not yet done, it's never done, until it's done. You are right, all

:03:45. > :03:48.independent analysis of whether team scores, they scored just after other

:03:49. > :03:54.teams have scored, whether it's soccer or rugby, and this is a great

:03:55. > :03:59.kick, a calm kick, and now the Scarlets are in the lead. Well, I

:04:00. > :04:03.referred to him as the banker and I would put my money on him. Tonks

:04:04. > :04:09.launches it. They have two and a half minutes, or thereabouts. Morgan

:04:10. > :04:14.Allen breakthrough again. If you have a pound for every time you have

:04:15. > :04:22.to say that we would be rich because he has had a storm. They will try to

:04:23. > :04:26.kick it for two minutes, I don't think they will kick it. The referee

:04:27. > :04:31.is saying. They have to now. He's going to click it. That has given it

:04:32. > :04:37.to Edinburgh, Du Preez takes. -- he is going to kick it. Two minutes,

:04:38. > :04:41.can Edinburgh reverse the two minutes of possession? They have men

:04:42. > :04:45.to their left, they need to run this. Tonks needs to break. Good

:04:46. > :04:51.charge by number 11, Tom Brown, takes it in, Kennedy comes left

:04:52. > :04:54.again. They are giving it everything, Edinburgh. This will be

:04:55. > :05:01.a sore one, there's an Edinburgh injury wait up to the far side, they

:05:02. > :05:04.are a man down as well. That was a difficult pass, but he has made the

:05:05. > :05:09.most of it. He has retained possession, but he has been caught,

:05:10. > :05:13.Sam Beard is down but Kennedy has it. They are just about on their

:05:14. > :05:18.knees, Edinburgh, physically, but they are giving it another go. Du

:05:19. > :05:24.Preez has been magnificent. The ball is loose, Edinburgh have it. The

:05:25. > :05:31.crowd are bawling at the referee. I think it is Greg Hunter. Greg Hunter

:05:32. > :05:36.is injured up to our left. No, it's Turner. Here we go again, Du Preez

:05:37. > :05:39.has another go. He has broken through, three redshirts trailing in

:05:40. > :05:45.his wake. Edinburgh still playing with 14 men. There are gaps in the

:05:46. > :05:52.field everywhere. There are men on this left-hand side, he changed his

:05:53. > :05:57.mind, he maybe went the wrong way. End of play there. From the wrong

:05:58. > :06:01.side, but the referee allows play to continue. Edinburgh still have it.

:06:02. > :06:04.The clock runs within the final minute of play. The final minute of

:06:05. > :06:10.play and Edinburgh continue to make that moving the ball. They need to

:06:11. > :06:14.hold the ball. The injured player has joined the fray, he has come

:06:15. > :06:22.back into it. Burleigh, they have moved it out of the right,

:06:23. > :06:27.Kinghorn... Into touch. If he had one more step he may have been away,

:06:28. > :06:30.might have been. Yes, just to go back to the young boys like George

:06:31. > :06:34.Turner, who have played well tonight, he has played well and that

:06:35. > :06:38.was a last desperate attempt to win this match. Time will fade away from

:06:39. > :06:42.them but many of these young players have stepped up, could have won it

:06:43. > :06:50.but it's a 1-point game. It's the best game I've seen by a mile. Great

:06:51. > :06:53.game, scrums have been even at the line-outs have been even, the

:06:54. > :07:01.attacks have been even, a couple of outstanding displays, Morgan Allen,

:07:02. > :07:05.Kennedy, they have all played well. This will be the last play for sure

:07:06. > :07:09.because the clock is red. The referee Andrew Grace will decide

:07:10. > :07:14.that as soon as the ball goes dead and is put out of play -- Andrew

:07:15. > :07:18.Brace. If you are a Scarlet you would catch it and get it to the

:07:19. > :07:22.scrum-half and dispatch it. They will be thinking what their safest

:07:23. > :07:28.line-out throw is, which is Bob would be the front, straight up in

:07:29. > :07:32.front of Toolis. Up the middle, they have got it. All they need to do is

:07:33. > :07:36.get it back, Edinburgh doing their level best to destroy the position.

:07:37. > :07:41.Edinburgh, they have managed to get it away, they have managed to get it

:07:42. > :07:49.away, and the final play is Aled Davies sending the ball into touch.

:07:50. > :07:52.And really, they are on their feet, they are on their feet all around us

:07:53. > :07:56.here in Parc y Scarlets because they know they have had to work really

:07:57. > :08:01.hard to get the points for this, and at the end of the day Edinburgh have

:08:02. > :08:06.got to settle for a bonus point. It came so close. A game that was when

:08:07. > :08:13.the ball, they did well, they did really well, but -- winnable. They

:08:14. > :08:16.will view it as a game they let slip through their fingers, a bit like

:08:17. > :08:19.the sand on the pitch, it slipped through their fingers and the

:08:20. > :08:23.Scarlets will be delighted. You can see they're happy faces. They know

:08:24. > :08:28.each other of these guys, they play each other but ultimately a cracking

:08:29. > :08:32.game. Edinburgh will regret the fact they didn't win this because they

:08:33. > :08:36.could have. They came so close in West Wales, because it has finished

:08:37. > :08:43.in Parc y Scarlets, a 1-point win for the home team, Scarlets 22,

:08:44. > :08:48.Edinburgh a very brave 21. Smiles on the face of the Scarlets

:08:49. > :08:51.players but perhaps the relief going away with the wind against

:08:52. > :08:56.Edinburgh, great performance towards the end of the second half. Like the

:08:57. > :08:59.first half, Edinburgh came back into the game, in the second half they

:09:00. > :09:05.came into the game and started converting points. Andy Nicol, quite

:09:06. > :09:09.an extraordinary game of rugby. 19-6, for a long time, Edinburgh

:09:10. > :09:12.looked dead and buried. They showed a lot of character to get their

:09:13. > :09:21.noses in front but they didn't keep it in front for any length of time.

:09:22. > :09:24.As soon as they got believed there was a penalty from Scarlets which

:09:25. > :09:28.was a shame. It would be nice to see how Scarlets would have reacted to

:09:29. > :09:30.going behind. They had the game won I think they would have thought, but

:09:31. > :09:33.I was really impressed with Edinburgh, where they made the

:09:34. > :09:36.changes it seemed to bring a bit of energy into the pack, into the whole

:09:37. > :09:39.team in fact and they had an edge about them, the defence was

:09:40. > :09:43.outstanding, the intensity was brilliant. Alan Solomons will take a

:09:44. > :09:48.huge amount from that defeat tonight. But it so could have been a

:09:49. > :09:52.victory. Some big performances, we mentioned Hamish Watson at the start

:09:53. > :09:56.of the programme. He put in a power of work, he gave away a penalty

:09:57. > :10:00.before going off with what looked like an injury but he worked

:10:01. > :10:07.incredibly hard. Ben Jones, another one. Du Preez, great influence, he

:10:08. > :10:11.did a lot for the second try. It wasn't a bad performance out there

:10:12. > :10:15.from Edinburgh tonight, they just had a few bad patches. They made a

:10:16. > :10:19.slow start, they didn't start the game well, and at times they showed

:10:20. > :10:24.ill discipline. I thought going out of the game ten minutes into the

:10:25. > :10:32.second half, but they regrouped and really took it to them. A win like

:10:33. > :10:36.that, and ability to get that win, that will give them so much

:10:37. > :10:39.confidence because of where they were in the game. They still should

:10:40. > :10:43.take an awful lot from it because they showed a lot of character. In

:10:44. > :10:47.Ulster, another game Edinburgh potentially should have won but that

:10:48. > :10:51.is disappointing because it's a game that should have been won and the

:10:52. > :10:55.Kingspan, a game that could have been won SOCA frustration, this team

:10:56. > :11:01.have the ability but they are not killing off games. -- SOCA

:11:02. > :11:05.frustration. I'm not glorifying it but a lot of young players who are

:11:06. > :11:13.put into this situation and they have found a way to get back, 19-6

:11:14. > :11:15.down you think dead and buried, that is where they will take the

:11:16. > :11:19.positives from. They have a bonus point away from home, which is good.

:11:20. > :11:23.It was an opportunity. If Edinburgh are going to make the next stage in

:11:24. > :11:26.their development this is the game they need to win the future. But

:11:27. > :11:29.they will be better from this experience and we will see how that

:11:30. > :11:34.development comes in the next few weeks. You mentioned the bad start

:11:35. > :11:39.from Edinburgh's point of view, from kick-off it wasn't great at all. It

:11:40. > :11:47.led to a trifle Scarlets. This was literally the first kick off of the

:11:48. > :11:51.game, Van der Merwe always on the ball, and it wasn't long after this

:11:52. > :11:55.came out, a good long pass from Steve Shingler who went off and it

:11:56. > :11:59.was Morgan Allen the number eight, Hoyland held off hand-held off to

:12:00. > :12:03.get the support in defence. It came but he missed the tackle. That was

:12:04. > :12:08.disappointing. This is from a different angle. A good long pass,

:12:09. > :12:11.two big parties, look what it did there. You can see what Hoyland is

:12:12. > :12:15.doing, but he is backtracking all the time. Not a bad decision but you

:12:16. > :12:18.have to make the tackle. He will be disappointed with that. At that

:12:19. > :12:24.stage Edinburgh were not playing well, they were under the cosh.

:12:25. > :12:27.There was a bit of spark about the Scarlets can you thought it was

:12:28. > :12:30.going to be a long, long night but Edinburgh really showed character to

:12:31. > :12:34.fight their way back. They didn't panic and that was a good thing as

:12:35. > :12:38.well. They used the clock. They saw there was plenty of time as the game

:12:39. > :12:42.went on to get back into it and took the lead at the perfect time but

:12:43. > :12:46.couldn't quite see it off. Edinburgh came into the game and were camped

:12:47. > :12:49.on the Scarlets line and couldn't get across it, got three points into

:12:50. > :12:54.the second-half but there were times when they making mistakes and it

:12:55. > :12:57.suggests making it too easy for the Scarlets through their own mistakes.

:12:58. > :13:02.At times in the second half they were almost trying too hard, trying

:13:03. > :13:06.to win the game too early. Use the 40 minutes, you want to be leading

:13:07. > :13:10.at the final whistle, not halfway through the second half. A bit of

:13:11. > :13:14.composure and old heads, there were a lot of young heads out there, an

:13:15. > :13:18.old head to say calm down. I suggested when there was the injury

:13:19. > :13:27.for Mike Coman to get the team together, look them in the eye and

:13:28. > :13:31.say this is what we are going to do, OK? A perfect opportunity when there

:13:32. > :13:42.is an injury to say calm down, this is what we are going to do next and

:13:43. > :13:45.then we will do that. They did it individually but I would like to

:13:46. > :13:48.have seen it collectively. This is an example of the mistakes they

:13:49. > :13:50.made, into the second half, a poor kick and Scarlets got the goal, got

:13:51. > :13:55.a break, and put Edinburgh on the back foot. There was a good kick

:13:56. > :13:59.chase there but the missed tackles coming, there's a big there, too big

:14:00. > :14:04.a gap. But scrambling defence, this is where there was a good attitude

:14:05. > :14:08.and the mistake there from the Scarlets, it didn't come to

:14:09. > :14:12.anything. This is the first bit of border fence but a really good bit

:14:13. > :14:17.of scrambling defence, which tells you everything about how the players

:14:18. > :14:21.are working for each other -- this is the first bit of poor defence.

:14:22. > :14:25.Cornell Du Preez making his way up the stairs here, we will get hold of

:14:26. > :14:26.him because he put in a storming performance.

:14:27. > :14:29.the stairs here, we will get hold of him because he put in a storming

:14:30. > :14:33.performance. If you could stand there, commiserations. A great

:14:34. > :14:38.performance from you and disappointing not to get the win?

:14:39. > :14:43.Yes, it was pretty disappointing. The first half was difficult to get

:14:44. > :14:48.out of but we showed up at the end. If we kept on the ball and kept

:14:49. > :14:52.attacking would score -- we could score tries. You made a try, a

:14:53. > :14:56.wonderful off-load, you must have thought we had the making of the

:14:57. > :15:00.match and we can win this? When the first one came before the second

:15:01. > :15:05.try, I think by that point I thought it was a big momentum shift and we

:15:06. > :15:09.could have pulled it through but we got a silly penalty at the end and

:15:10. > :15:13.it cost us. We were talking about the character this young Edinburgh

:15:14. > :15:16.side, the side at the end, a lot of young kids out there, there is

:15:17. > :15:21.character, do you see the quality and these young players? Definitely,

:15:22. > :15:24.there are a lot of young Scottish players coming through. There is a

:15:25. > :15:30.lot of positive things especially with so many boys with Scotland,

:15:31. > :15:33.really positive. You talk about positivity but tonight, after that,

:15:34. > :15:38.not getting the win, that must be hugely frustrating when it was

:15:39. > :15:42.potentially there on a plate for you? It was potentially there but it

:15:43. > :15:46.goes to show you in this professional league, we go back on

:15:47. > :15:51.Monday and see where we could improve and work from there. You

:15:52. > :15:56.were sitting in the top four in the league, you have dropped out with a

:15:57. > :15:59.loss to Cardiff a couple of weeks of back and you do get a bonus point

:16:00. > :16:03.for the defeat but can you get back into the top four towards the end of

:16:04. > :16:07.the season and into the play-offs? Definitely, that has been our goal

:16:08. > :16:12.and as long as we have a chance we can definitely get there. It would

:16:13. > :16:19.be nice to have a final at the home ground, wouldn't it? Definitely, I

:16:20. > :16:22.looked the other day. That would be fantastic, commiserations to night,

:16:23. > :16:27.a good performance from you and generally from the team but thanks

:16:28. > :16:34.for joining us here on BBC Two. Thank you very much. My goodness,

:16:35. > :16:37.he's a big fellow. Even the way he talks, that is leadership and these

:16:38. > :16:42.young players like Jamie Ritchie, who are finding their way in the

:16:43. > :16:47.game, they have to look up to people like him and Mike Coman and learn

:16:48. > :16:52.from them learn from their professionalism, there sadly, you

:16:53. > :16:58.can really into that. He was really impressive -- learn from their

:16:59. > :17:02.wisdom. Let's look at that try, great work from Edinburgh. This is

:17:03. > :17:05.the sort of thing in the first half they were not doing anything about

:17:06. > :17:10.potentially, losing the ball and Scarlets were defending well but

:17:11. > :17:14.great ball from him. He was taking the ball off the contract, this is

:17:15. > :17:20.where the composure in the first half, they let them down here, is he

:17:21. > :17:26.goes between two defenders which is never a strength. It is a better

:17:27. > :17:31.angle you can see here, goes between two Scarlets defenders but a good

:17:32. > :17:36.stretch out there. A big stretch, great try. Just at the right time, a

:17:37. > :17:40.game, good leadership, good forward play, they have really upped their

:17:41. > :17:43.game, the referee started pinging Scarlets in the scrum so you have

:17:44. > :17:48.the momentum shift and Edinburgh were able to run with that will stop

:17:49. > :17:52.they got the winning position and couldn't quite close-out, which was

:17:53. > :17:55.a shame. That try was great to see but there were moments when

:17:56. > :17:58.Edinburgh was breaking down the Scarlets defence but making little

:17:59. > :18:03.mistakes, knock-on the here and there, not the right pass at the

:18:04. > :18:08.right time. yes, again, the set plate tonight was really good. Jamie

:18:09. > :18:13.Richards at the back here, good defence by Scarlets, they get broken

:18:14. > :18:18.away, there is Jamie Richards isolated on his own, he sets it up

:18:19. > :18:22.well -- Jamie Ritchie. They are trying to recycle the forwards and

:18:23. > :18:30.get the big lads to carry forward, goodbye Toolis, players around, the

:18:31. > :18:37.boys have come through and study wasn't men -- and they have said it

:18:38. > :18:40.wasn't for them. It had to go and he had to be more sympathetic in the

:18:41. > :18:44.past. When you are playing on the gain line like that and taking it

:18:45. > :18:48.up, the scrum-half or whoever is there has to really make sure the

:18:49. > :18:51.path is weighted as far as it leads to go. That needed to be

:18:52. > :18:55.sympathetic. Then they could have recycled it. You can fire it if you

:18:56. > :18:59.are firing across the defensive line but not when you're taking it into

:19:00. > :19:04.players coming into the defensive line. When substitutions happened

:19:05. > :19:09.there was alleged Edinburgh's play. You want your bench to make an

:19:10. > :19:13.impact. I really thought they did. Charge down to tell you all about

:19:14. > :19:17.the pressure team has been able to exert, that was the first one, look

:19:18. > :19:21.at the kick chase, everyone started with that edge and intensity they

:19:22. > :19:25.got into them. Scarlets tried to fight their way out, the scrum-half

:19:26. > :19:29.is trying to organise things, get into a good kicking position so they

:19:30. > :19:33.set it up, good defence hereby Edinburgh. They are now happy.

:19:34. > :19:38.Steffan Jones is happy at the base and they go for one more sign, into

:19:39. > :19:41.the kicking position, but look at the intensity of the Edinburgh

:19:42. > :19:46.players, getting into position. There's a dead ball here, bang, and

:19:47. > :19:50.good pressure, and this is what led to Van der Merwe out there for the

:19:51. > :19:54.line-out and from this line-out was where it ended up with the try. We

:19:55. > :19:58.have had them in here, Du Preez off-loads it to Alex Toolis and that

:19:59. > :20:04.was the one which was followed up by a conversion by Greig Tonks, who got

:20:05. > :20:10.Edinburgh in front and they just couldn't quite hold it off. Yes,

:20:11. > :20:14.great to watch the try, Alan Solomons thanks for joining us

:20:15. > :20:17.tonight here. We have just been speaking to Cornell Du Preez, the

:20:18. > :20:20.real frustration from his point of view, he felt it was a game that was

:20:21. > :20:24.therefore Edinburgh to win but just at the end they were losing that

:20:25. > :20:29.penalty and ultimately losing the match. Yes, the first half we didn't

:20:30. > :20:34.play particularly well. We made too many errors. You can see the

:20:35. > :20:38.mistakes, you spoke about it at half-time, really a much improved

:20:39. > :20:42.performance, we went ahead at 21-19, the game was ours and I must say, I

:20:43. > :20:45.haven't studied the television as carefully as you have but I studied

:20:46. > :20:51.it up there and it didn't look offside to me. My view is that on

:20:52. > :20:56.these things you are best served in the competition of this nature on --

:20:57. > :21:01.in having three neutral officials. You are really frustrated with that?

:21:02. > :21:04.Yes, I am, I will take it through the proper channels, the referee

:21:05. > :21:08.manager, I think this is a really good competition we have got and I

:21:09. > :21:12.think you need neutral officials. Let's talk about the positives, we

:21:13. > :21:17.have watched both your tries, coming out at the business end of the game

:21:18. > :21:19.as well, when you made a couple of changes, there was an edged

:21:20. > :21:24.Edinburgh and your pack in particular were causing problems

:21:25. > :21:28.there? It was terrific, the guys that came on and made a difference.

:21:29. > :21:37.Alex Toolis on the blindside flank, we lost Hamish, Jamie Ritchie did to

:21:38. > :21:40.render sleek, Turner came on and did terrifically -- Jamie Ritchie did

:21:41. > :21:44.tremendously. It's encouraging to see the young boys coming on and

:21:45. > :21:48.playing so well. I'm disappointed for the boys and for the team that

:21:49. > :21:52.we didn't get the win we deserved tonight. I was impressed by how this

:21:53. > :21:56.young side at the end, there was a young team out there but they didn't

:21:57. > :21:59.panic, they worked their way back into the game. The young players

:22:00. > :22:05.have a good rugby sense about them, is that something that has been

:22:06. > :22:09.impressing you? Yes, it's something that is our vision for Edinburgh

:22:10. > :22:11.rugby. We have to build a sustainable club through our young,

:22:12. > :22:16.indigenous Scottish qualified talent and we see it coming through. Jamie

:22:17. > :22:21.Ritchie was at school two years ago, George is still a young boy but was

:22:22. > :22:24.at school last year, all those young boys that came on made a difference

:22:25. > :22:31.and the enthusiasm at the end was terrific to see. How can you take

:22:32. > :22:35.this defeat and take it to the next stage? Winning tight games, a club

:22:36. > :22:38.that can look into the top four, how do you make the difference to win

:22:39. > :22:44.the games rather than losing them? It's difficult, the difficult part

:22:45. > :22:49.is we lost the game at the end to a penalty that I didn't feel was

:22:50. > :22:52.justified. I think we have won many tight games. You look at the second

:22:53. > :22:55.game against Glasgow, we went through the phases and tonight and

:22:56. > :23:00.fortunately a penalty was given at the end which cost us the match. --

:23:01. > :23:04.unfortunately. The positive thing for us is we didn't play well in the

:23:05. > :23:07.first half and we showed away from home we can turn it around with a

:23:08. > :23:11.really positive second-half performance. We have a chance to

:23:12. > :23:14.watch the penalty on the screen here, you have seen this for the

:23:15. > :23:16.first time now, look and see what you are thinking. Give us your

:23:17. > :23:23.comments on this? you are thinking. Give us your

:23:24. > :23:28.comments on this? That is not... He is playing it already, it is blown

:23:29. > :23:34.before that happened, so you would have to take that. We need it

:23:35. > :23:39.further back than that. If you take it back, it doesn't look as if he

:23:40. > :23:45.was offside. If it was multi-phases, you would maybe expect a lazy run,

:23:46. > :23:49.that was off 12-macro phases. Edinburgh set here, this has been

:23:50. > :23:55.called from the first phase and you are rarely offside at the first

:23:56. > :23:59.phase. A decent line speed and we're all behind the thing, he passes, we

:24:00. > :24:03.are still behind, there is no problem. I don't see on what basis

:24:04. > :24:09.he has given a penalty. The referee, it is not Andrew Brace's false, the

:24:10. > :24:13.touch judge tells him and the touch judge is not neutral. Clearly you

:24:14. > :24:16.are angry and its frustration for you because your team did enough

:24:17. > :24:20.perhaps to win the game. Thank you for your time and thank you for

:24:21. > :24:24.looking at the analysis as well and clarifying what you thought. Thanks

:24:25. > :24:30.very much indeed. It's a pleasure, thank you. Heavens above. We were

:24:31. > :24:34.not picking up that but he was very angry with the offside decision and

:24:35. > :24:38.the penalty that cost Edinburgh the match. We couldn't see the line

:24:39. > :24:42.standing at the side of the pitch, sitting at the side of the pitch.

:24:43. > :24:46.They can see it face on. That was first phase, very rarely are your

:24:47. > :24:51.side. It didn't seem glaring. It was the touch judge that gave it. This

:24:52. > :24:58.has been a criticism of the Pro12, that needs neutral officials, all

:24:59. > :25:02.three of them. I think Glasgow and Edinburgh are justified to have some

:25:03. > :25:05.complaints over the year. That is a massive difference for the game,

:25:06. > :25:09.because we have talked about the character, they have talked about

:25:10. > :25:14.how Edinburgh dug deep to get in front in this game and you want the

:25:15. > :25:18.laws to be applied. Alan Solomons is justified with his grievance and

:25:19. > :25:22.it's a shame that ultimately it has cost Edinburgh.

:25:23. > :25:26.You think getting into the top four, getting into the play-offs and that

:25:27. > :25:30.final at Murrayfield, the home potential, imagine if it was

:25:31. > :25:34.Edinburgh against Glasgow! Wouldn't that be great? They need to do some

:25:35. > :25:38.work to get their! That would take some doing from where both sides are

:25:39. > :25:42.now! Edinburgh have over performed this year and I think they have

:25:43. > :25:45.exploited the opportunity that has come their way, maybe because some

:25:46. > :25:53.of the other teams who have more players with international duty and

:25:54. > :25:57.they have -- benefited from that. They keep winning. They can get the

:25:58. > :26:01.momentum and confidence and that is why a winter day could have really

:26:02. > :26:07.spurred them to come back down next week, 220 miles down the road to

:26:08. > :26:12.Ospreys, which we will be again, -- to 20 miles. They could have a

:26:13. > :26:17.spring in their step, knowing they could win. These are the games that

:26:18. > :26:23.will turn a good side into a great side, and a side that can get into

:26:24. > :26:26.the play-offs. Let's turn our attention to tomorrow, the big

:26:27. > :26:29.international match, Wales against Scotland. What do you think will be

:26:30. > :26:34.key for Scotland after the disappointing start of the Six

:26:35. > :26:40.Nations campaign, and the memory of two years ago, 51-3 two years ago.

:26:41. > :26:44.We don't want that memory but we want quick ball, that's what we need

:26:45. > :26:49.tomorrow, and unstructured game, and off-loading game, I want to see the

:26:50. > :26:53.tempo up, players we know that can be creative and exploit gaps like

:26:54. > :26:58.Mark Bennett and Lin Russell, Tommy Seymour, come onto the ball and have

:26:59. > :27:03.a bright -- Finn Russell. Take the character we saw today and threw

:27:04. > :27:06.everything at Wales. The game tomorrow will suit Scotland better

:27:07. > :27:11.than last week and they can contribute to that. Up against a big

:27:12. > :27:14.challenge, I think you like to face these challenges. The Millennium

:27:15. > :27:19.Stadium, the principality stadium, a great place to play and the players

:27:20. > :27:22.will enjoy it and express themselves. If they do it they will

:27:23. > :27:29.enjoy themselves. If Scotland don't play well they won't win. The under

:27:30. > :27:32.20s lost last night, I beg your pardon, Edinburgh losing tonight,

:27:33. > :27:36.can Scotland pick up from that tomorrow and maybe win? It's

:27:37. > :27:40.unrelated, obviously, but I think there will be players out there

:27:41. > :27:46.going to bed tonight really desperate to right the wrongs of

:27:47. > :27:49.last week. The players are the supporters are disappointed, we are

:27:50. > :27:53.disappointed in the media, the players are equally if not more so

:27:54. > :27:57.disappointed, because they are the ones out there. They want to get

:27:58. > :28:00.that feeling they had in the World Cup, the togetherness. We are slow

:28:01. > :28:03.starters in the Six Nations and we will be better tomorrow. Whether

:28:04. > :28:06.that is good enough to beat Wales, time will tell, but I want to see

:28:07. > :28:15.Scotland play with the same bite and character that we saw Edinburgh have

:28:16. > :28:18.tonight. OK, you will see Andy live on BBC One for that game tomorrow,

:28:19. > :28:20.you will hear me on BBC radio Scotland. Period Llanelli they are

:28:21. > :28:25.turning off the light, so I reckon we should go home! You should

:28:26. > :28:27.tonight. Edinburgh were beaten tonight. It was a shame. Thank you

:28:28. > :28:35.for your company, good night. I've had a message from China,

:28:36. > :29:05.from my birth mother. How far would you go to save

:29:06. > :29:13.the family who gave you up? She's too ashamed

:29:14. > :29:17.to look at you, Mei. 'Sister, help me. If no-one

:29:18. > :29:22.speak for me, I will die.' Part of BBC Two's China season,

:29:23. > :29:27.a compelling three-part drama...
