:00:30. > :00:35.Hello, and a very warm welcome to the Kingspan Stadium. Last week,
:00:36. > :00:39.Edinburgh huffed and puffed to a bonus point win against the Dragons
:00:40. > :00:43.at home. Tonight, they've travelled to a nasty nice it -- night in
:00:44. > :00:47.Belfast to try to blow the home side away. Coming up live its Ulster
:00:48. > :00:53.macro against Edinburgh. Yes, good to have you winners, it really is an
:00:54. > :00:56.awful night. Last time we were here of course Glasgow won the Pro12
:00:57. > :01:02.final. Tonight, Edinburgh are here to try and win against Ulster Andy
:01:03. > :01:06.Nichol, he is with us, conditions will have an impact? Massively,
:01:07. > :01:10.really, really windy, the rain has just stopped but it will probably
:01:11. > :01:14.come back. The wind is going straight down the pitch. It will be
:01:15. > :01:18.very difficult. The Edinburgh side is buoyed by the news that Alan
:01:19. > :01:23.Solomons has assigned eight year's extension to his contracts. What
:01:24. > :01:26.impact will it have on the players? It's a bit of stability, they know
:01:27. > :01:31.who the coach will be for the next 18 months. He has done well. He has
:01:32. > :01:35.stabilised a pretty creaky ship when he took over and he's got them to a
:01:36. > :01:39.good place. Now they need to kick forward. He has signed for the next
:01:40. > :01:49.18 months. There are a lot of players out of contract and those
:01:50. > :01:52.pictures were recorded earlier, when Alan Solomons was offering his head
:01:53. > :01:57.from the rain. Some other players, Matt Scott, potentially big players
:01:58. > :02:02.for Edinburgh, should be signed up? Yes, 32 out of the 45 are out of
:02:03. > :02:06.contract and that the precarious position to begin. Matt Scott is one
:02:07. > :02:08.of these players that the whole team can focus around. Ross Wardle is
:02:09. > :02:13.well up front, they have good selection with signing with John
:02:14. > :02:17.Hardie, it's about securing the likes of Matt Scott and the rest of
:02:18. > :02:22.them. They know who the coaches. Let's talk about my's game. What
:02:23. > :02:26.will be key? Last week their back row was important, we talked about
:02:27. > :02:31.John Hardie, a big player for them. Do you think the back rows will be
:02:32. > :02:34.important in this match? Without doubt, it's a wonderful match
:02:35. > :02:40.between Chris Henry, Nick Williams and there is so much to play. They
:02:41. > :02:44.have a big job tonight. He can get the front foot, they can get that
:02:45. > :02:47.forward momentum that you need in these conditions. It's about
:02:48. > :02:52.controlling the ball, controlling the game, very difficult wind. The
:02:53. > :02:56.back and the forwards have a massive role to play. Do you think the
:02:57. > :02:59.wingers will keep their hands in their pockets because they won't
:03:00. > :03:04.touch the ball? It's so windy, it's difficult to kick. The ground is so
:03:05. > :03:10.firm skivvy, you could run the risk of kicking the ball the length of
:03:11. > :03:15.the field. -- giddy. You have to use it accurately, the wind. The role of
:03:16. > :03:19.the scrum-half is hugely important? Ruan Pienaar knows exactly what to
:03:20. > :03:24.do, he has won World Cups, Sean Kennedy has a big job to do but I
:03:25. > :03:27.like the look of him. He came off the bench last week against Dragons
:03:28. > :03:32.and made an impact. Very difficult conditions the night and it's all
:03:33. > :03:35.about controlling the ball. Controlling the ball, controlling
:03:36. > :03:40.the game and the smartest team will win the night. Edinburgh have been
:03:41. > :03:43.Ulster this season, can they do it here in Belfast? This match should
:03:44. > :03:48.be very interesting indeed. Join us in the company of our commentary
:03:49. > :03:52.team. COMMENTATOR:
:03:53. > :03:56.Thank you very much, we are high above Dougie and Andy and I'm not
:03:57. > :04:00.sure that's a good idea on a night like this. It's a hostile
:04:01. > :04:03.environment at the best of times. Tonight, the addition of a storm
:04:04. > :04:11.called Desmond has added a different I mentioned to what was always going
:04:12. > :04:13.to be a tough fixture. He mentioned stability. That stability is largely
:04:14. > :04:17.now supplied by Alan Solomons signing the contract? Yes, people
:04:18. > :04:22.should remember that he was an Ulster coach and did exactly the
:04:23. > :04:25.same Ulster as he has done for Edinburgh. He brought in lots of
:04:26. > :04:29.players, he stabilised the team and we now know who the Edinburgh coach
:04:30. > :04:34.is in the medium term. That stability reflected in the actual
:04:35. > :04:43.choice of players in the Edinburgh team tonight. Because it has a very
:04:44. > :04:46.settled look, as they come out of the back of their four try win
:04:47. > :04:50.against the Dragons last week. Although they did stumble, they
:04:51. > :04:55.huffed and they pushed. But he has gone for the first three names he
:04:56. > :05:01.always puts in the book, I suspect, Dickinson, Ford and Nel in the front
:05:02. > :05:05.row. The back row is a regular feature. Sean Kennedy givens for
:05:06. > :05:09.Hidalgo-Clyne, with a hand injury -- hand injury. Cuthbert comes in from
:05:10. > :05:17.Tonks, who has a hamstring injury from last week. The captain again,
:05:18. > :05:26.Mike Coman at number six. We are just waiting for the Ulster team. It
:05:27. > :05:31.is a strong Ulster team, John? It is and it's a good pitch wind as we
:05:32. > :05:37.will see at. I think going left to right. It's amazing, this stadium is
:05:38. > :05:42.a fantastic example of what you want the Scottish teams to play in front
:05:43. > :05:46.of, but they are going to beat this lot tonight. A fantastic set up
:05:47. > :05:50.underneath where we are setting in terms of hospitality and everything
:05:51. > :05:55.else. Still a grass surface here at Kingspan, forever Ravenhill for some
:05:56. > :06:02.people, the beating heart of Irish rugby here. As the Ulster team takes
:06:03. > :06:07.the field, undefeated in 14 matches here, they too have stability, four
:06:08. > :06:14.changes from last week, Rory Best is rested, Rob Herring with a new
:06:15. > :06:20.contract as captain, Van der Merwe, Roger Wilson at number eight, Nick
:06:21. > :06:25.Williams coming at his place and at the backs, McCall and -- mash --
:06:26. > :06:30.Marshall and Adam Caves in the middle. Fantastic setting, the
:06:31. > :06:38.weather easing off significantly now. Our referee tonight is Ian
:06:39. > :06:47.Davis, from the Welsh Rugby union. The Irish side lining up in white to
:06:48. > :06:54.our left as we watch from Edinburgh in the red and black colours, and
:06:55. > :07:00.Ulster get us under way. They have the breeze, as John said. It is
:07:01. > :07:03.howling, in all sorts of different directions. I haven't seen the posts
:07:04. > :07:10.go in opposite directions for a long time. Waltzing earlier on, still
:07:11. > :07:15.significant movement. It's going to be interesting to see how the
:07:16. > :07:21.kicking game plays. Scrum-half, Sean Kennedy, everybody tonight trying to
:07:22. > :07:30.take the wind on. Ulster will no doubt want to make the most of
:07:31. > :07:36.that. Here they come. Keeping it tight. It might be the way it's
:07:37. > :07:44.going to keep Wood B. -- might be the way it's going to be. Some
:07:45. > :07:48.Balkan midfield, we have an Irish injury on the halfway line. Darren
:07:49. > :07:54.Cave has taken a knock, meanwhile way out on the far side Edinburgh
:07:55. > :07:58.close the door down on -- Darren Cave is looking in a lot of trouble
:07:59. > :08:02.in the centre line just below us. He has taken a stinger to the shoulder,
:08:03. > :08:10.I think. The ball comes this way, Jackson, a man down in the middle,
:08:11. > :08:17.Du Preez. Edinburgh gradually easing Ulster backwards here. Good
:08:18. > :08:23.challenging. A pacey attack. Defence and attack, first ball to Edinburgh,
:08:24. > :08:26.John, they've shifted them all the way up to halfway. I'm really
:08:27. > :08:32.surprised Ulster are playing, they are playing with three pods, a group
:08:33. > :08:37.of falls in the middle, trying to go wide to the wide, which with this
:08:38. > :08:41.wind which is majority left to right they should be kicking for the
:08:42. > :08:44.corner. You saw Edinburgh clearing. When Kennedy cleared that kick he
:08:45. > :08:51.cleared it low and this is a tackle I think her to the player. I'm
:08:52. > :08:54.really surprised that -- at the way Ulster are playing, with the wind
:08:55. > :08:58.behind you get the ball to the corner. I would have anticipated the
:08:59. > :09:03.first one going up in the air and looking at the post, still spinning
:09:04. > :09:06.around, because it has eased off significantly from earlier on. It
:09:07. > :09:11.has not been cold but by golly, these showers have been something
:09:12. > :09:16.else. Just an early break in play here, which won't help either team.
:09:17. > :09:20.Darren Cave taking one to the shoulder, just being checked over
:09:21. > :09:27.there. Certainly in a great deal of discomfort. Pique, short inside
:09:28. > :09:30.ball, came on inside ball from ten and it came in high and he was
:09:31. > :09:35.dumped back. It's a good start for Edinburgh, that. They were under
:09:36. > :09:40.pressure in their own 22 and they've shifted Ulster to ten metre the
:09:41. > :09:50.ninth -- to the ten metre line. To the left of halfway. The pivotal
:09:51. > :09:56.presence of Pienaar and Paddy Jackson at nine and ten is going to
:09:57. > :10:03.be so important for the Irish. Nothing at all between the packs,
:10:04. > :10:08.just about a pound's difference. Ulster have spilled that. They've
:10:09. > :10:14.turned Edinburgh there, destroyed the Edinburgh heel. They are in full
:10:15. > :10:20.flow at the moment. No need to stick it up in the air, because Pienaar
:10:21. > :10:28.has got them on the move. Here they come again. Plenty of the Balkan
:10:29. > :10:33.midfield again. -- plenty of the bulk, in midfield again. Still not
:10:34. > :10:39.using the air. Edinburgh may have won it, not quite, Pienaar gets it
:10:40. > :10:45.away again. Not committing to many of the forwards, keeping them in
:10:46. > :10:52.midfield, Jackson. Good tackling by Edinburgh, Matt Scott. His trial
:10:53. > :11:00.last week, Pienaar tries again. -- try. Comes right this time, looking
:11:01. > :11:04.for a gap over the back, turns the Edinburgh defence. Cuthbert is going
:11:05. > :11:08.after it and that's bobbling, absolutely treacherous ball to deal
:11:09. > :11:16.with. And that's what we expected to see in the opening kick. Passages of
:11:17. > :11:18.play. Exactly, I didn't expect to see the Edinburgh packhorse
:11:19. > :11:22.backwards on the first scrum but I expected this. Pienaar, the class,
:11:23. > :11:28.the boys, he knew exactly what he was doing. World-class player. --
:11:29. > :11:32.poise. This is going to be a difficult evening for Ross and
:11:33. > :11:37.whoever else is throwing in because you can see with the flags the
:11:38. > :11:41.effect of the wind. He's gone long, which is perhaps a surprise and
:11:42. > :11:47.risky in this kind of weather, but Du Preez took it well.
:11:48. > :11:52.Again, Edinburgh keeping it tight, moving it out. There's no point
:11:53. > :11:59.trying to hoof it because it won't go far. It has charged down,
:12:00. > :12:06.dangerous, dangerous for Edinburgh and really there was no option there
:12:07. > :12:12.for Burleigh, he had to go for safety. Danger bells, all from a
:12:13. > :12:15.great kick. Good line-out, good charge, was that Williams, came
:12:16. > :12:21.right over the top of the ruck, as he is allowed to and good pressure.
:12:22. > :12:24.Is it Williams? It is, great play by the number eight. Destroyed
:12:25. > :12:29.Edinburgh's ball. It's going to be an Ulster line-out. The birthday
:12:30. > :12:33.boy, 32 yesterday, Nick Williams, who came into the side late when
:12:34. > :12:38.Roger Wilson suffered a back spasm, we understand, lifting a bag. That
:12:39. > :12:45.is Henderson injured, he's a good player. He's not happy. He's not
:12:46. > :12:50.happy, you can tell. Usually when they hold their head, it's the old
:12:51. > :12:54.golden rule of injuries, someone holding their head has normally hurt
:12:55. > :13:00.her knee. I follow, I follow! The referee meanwhile having a word with
:13:01. > :13:06.Anton Bresler, who was exchanging some full and frank views. With his
:13:07. > :13:10.opposite number. While the rock went on, Nick Williams went over the top
:13:11. > :13:14.and the substitution straightaway. Yes, they know it is Henderson and
:13:15. > :13:18.that's bad because he played well in the World Cup, he's a good player. I
:13:19. > :13:22.remember him playing, you get that little tap on the shoulder, you know
:13:23. > :13:27.that's the end of your day maybe. Maybe a little hospital visit coming
:13:28. > :13:29.up. That's a shame because he's a class player
:13:30. > :13:36.APPLAUSE That is Henderson leaving the field
:13:37. > :13:41.was sure the substitute is Clive Ross, who came onto the bench in
:13:42. > :13:44.place Nick Williams, so this is how it happened. That was the charge
:13:45. > :13:53.down, a great charge down as you saw, but that's where he went down,
:13:54. > :13:56.just as he went after Burleigh and well, if it's that one that's
:13:57. > :14:01.already strapped up then he has come on the field with an injured right
:14:02. > :14:06.knee and has stressed it. That's the margins, you go onto the pitch
:14:07. > :14:12.mostly fit, something goes wrong, you are off again. Ian Davies is
:14:13. > :14:19.giving them time to clear the injury from the in-goal area. He doesn't
:14:20. > :14:24.want to restart play, but I get these disruptions is a difficult set
:14:25. > :14:27.of circumstances anyway but it's not going to help the players at all, is
:14:28. > :14:31.it? To go back to the game, Edinburgh will not have been happy
:14:32. > :14:36.with the first scrum because they went backwards. It's survival now
:14:37. > :14:40.for Edinburgh in this first half. Let's go down to Andy Nichol on the
:14:41. > :14:44.touchline. Just to pick up on John's point, the first scrum was
:14:45. > :14:53.very dodgy for Edinburgh, to lose it. For the time being... We seem to
:14:54. > :15:02.have some communications difficulties, if you will excuse
:15:03. > :15:05.that from time to time. We will check and see where Andy has gone,
:15:06. > :15:15.whether he is away in the wind aware. -- somewhere. Meanwhile, the
:15:16. > :15:21.somewhat sad departure of Iain Henderson along the Edinburgh goal
:15:22. > :15:26.area. One thing I would say as he is carded off, everyone thinks rugby
:15:27. > :15:29.football, they are all glamorous careers, actually, there's a fair
:15:30. > :15:33.bit of line when these lads train and train and train, then they get
:15:34. > :15:38.hurt and as he gets wheeled off he's thinking all sorts of things go
:15:39. > :15:43.through your head, my contract, well -- how long have I got, when will I
:15:44. > :15:50.be back, is a career ending? He has had for and a half minutes less
:15:51. > :15:54.probably the night of up potentially promising career, however, we will
:15:55. > :15:58.park that for the minute. Ulster have it, driving to the line. This
:15:59. > :16:03.is a good tight move, they spin off is back towards the line. They are
:16:04. > :16:08.not far off now and they think they have it, not this time though. There
:16:09. > :16:15.was a big claim there from Chris Henry, offside coming, offside
:16:16. > :16:20.coming, the referee has stopped. -- stops play. They were looking to see
:16:21. > :16:24.if there was a try. Pienaar may have been close. There are going to have
:16:25. > :16:28.a look at whether Edinburgh illegally stopped that potential
:16:29. > :16:32.try. REFEREE: Tackling the player has
:16:33. > :16:38.prevented a driving squad. That could be serious in all sorts of
:16:39. > :16:44.way, it could be a five. I think it's Sean Kennedy, keep an eye on
:16:45. > :16:50.Sean Kennedy. No, he means Coman, he means Coman, he means the tackle on
:16:51. > :16:54.Knight once Coman, it's happened already, came in from an offside
:16:55. > :17:00.position and tackled Pienaar. They will have to rerun this. Here we
:17:01. > :17:04.go. Henry makes the break, on the left-hand side Pienaar is about to
:17:05. > :17:09.come in on the right, Coman, number six is coming back and he's offside
:17:10. > :17:15.and it's a try. It's a penalty try. REFEREE: Does he tap in from an
:17:16. > :17:21.offside position? He does. It's a penalty try.
:17:22. > :17:26.REFEREE: I tell you what I'm seeing, it's a penalty try. I do not think
:17:27. > :17:32.it's a yellow card offence, simply a penalty try. A penalty try is
:17:33. > :17:36.sufficient for me. No, you are offside, preventing a try being
:17:37. > :17:42.scored, it's only a penalty try. It's a try, John, but in a way they
:17:43. > :17:47.have got out of jail almost but they could have been worse. That is
:17:48. > :17:52.quality played, originally good defence in the maul, a great break
:17:53. > :17:58.by Henry but hand on heart as a neutral Coman was cynical. That's a
:17:59. > :18:03.yellow card offence. Well, OK, prevented the try from an offside
:18:04. > :18:07.position. Good vision by Pienaar. He came round the side, he knew what it
:18:08. > :18:10.was doing, Coman felt he had to give it away and tackled him from an
:18:11. > :18:15.offside position. I'd say alarm bells, alarm bells for Edinburgh.
:18:16. > :18:19.Danger all over the early phases of play with Pienaar being so creative
:18:20. > :18:26.and Paddy Jackson has added the other two points. Already that's his
:18:27. > :18:30.nine from 14 in all and it's got Ulster off to a flying start because
:18:31. > :18:34.they dominated the play and have been lethal in terms of their
:18:35. > :18:37.finishing. Do you know what it all came back to? Edinburgh being pushed
:18:38. > :18:42.off the ball in their own scrum. It's like everything in this crazy
:18:43. > :18:49.game of rugby, you can chart it back to every set piece. Edinburgh blew a
:18:50. > :18:56.scrum. Ulster did it and they gave away a penalty try. 7-0, Ulster
:18:57. > :19:06.lead. That ball hanging in the wind again and Ulster having to take it
:19:07. > :19:14.out. There is Ludik. Darren Cave has gone off. From the shoulder knock,
:19:15. > :19:19.we saw him struggling badly there and Ludik has come on already. Two
:19:20. > :19:30.changes. Ross Ford again. Managing to beat
:19:31. > :19:39.the wind, which is some achievement, let me tell you. Kennedy breaks.
:19:40. > :19:45.Kennedy again, the ball went backwards. Edinburgh still have it.
:19:46. > :19:54.Trying to regroup. Coming left. A big tackle. You could feel that one
:19:55. > :20:01.up here. Press low, and it's that low, cutting challenge whether
:20:02. > :20:06.player goes in. No arms, a difficult decision the referee has to make, a
:20:07. > :20:13.loose ball again, tidied up by Edinburgh. All very scrappy, I'm
:20:14. > :20:19.afraid. No continuity for Edinburgh. But Nick Williams, absolutely
:20:20. > :20:23.expert, deadly on the breakdown, John, and he's not happy with the
:20:24. > :20:27.way he was pulled back there. Well, he's not allowed to go for the ball
:20:28. > :20:31.once the rock is formed. He is formed. He's first money and I guess
:20:32. > :20:34.after the tackle and the referee said the rock was formed, then you
:20:35. > :20:39.go for the ball, you can't do that. I tell you what, Ulster are tackling
:20:40. > :20:42.really low and I thought that tackle by Kyle McCall, the big loosehead
:20:43. > :20:46.prop was a hands-free no hands tackle, I can't remember who was
:20:47. > :20:51.carrying the ball, chopped in very low and Matt Scott a big Samoan,
:20:52. > :20:55.which she ran into that man there, Williams, who is a big strong lump
:20:56. > :21:00.of meat. Here we will get an indication of the wind. We saw Jack
:21:01. > :21:09.Cuthbert having a go from this kind of area pre-match. Didn't hang
:21:10. > :21:15.about. He has hit it high and it's gone short. He gave it a good sump,
:21:16. > :21:21.but that is exactly the problem -- sump full stop here come Edinburgh
:21:22. > :21:23.again. Du Preez. A good off-load, Cuthbert involved again on the far
:21:24. > :21:38.side. Edinburgh moving along the line,
:21:39. > :21:44.just too clever, too clever by half on a night like this. Tackled by
:21:45. > :21:52.Williams. Fantastic agility from the big fellow. Keeping the ball in
:21:53. > :22:03.hand, Ross Ford. Ulster driving them back again. Forde-macro has to try
:22:04. > :22:09.again, -- Ford has to try again. Kennedy, way above his head there.
:22:10. > :22:13.Pienaar thought he had it. It was just a glimpse, here's Kennedy
:22:14. > :22:15.again. Edinburgh girl left up the middle, Matt Scott sees a break,
:22:16. > :22:26.feels the gap. They've lost it, spilled the ball.
:22:27. > :22:33.Ulster habit, or they don't have it. All very scrappy, let's see if we
:22:34. > :22:37.can make contact with Andy Nichol. Playing in the world wind as strong
:22:38. > :22:41.as this you have to play smart and going for a penalty from 45 yards
:22:42. > :22:46.out with such a wind, it was never going to have the legs. They lost so
:22:47. > :22:49.much possession. They've got to be accurate. They've got to make sure
:22:50. > :22:52.they're playing in the right field and go through the phases and make
:22:53. > :22:56.sure they keep control of the ball, so when you are in this wind you
:22:57. > :23:01.have to play smart. Smart and simple, I would have thought. Just
:23:02. > :23:06.too much of the fancy stuff in midfield from Edinburgh there, its
:23:07. > :23:15.cost them possession. That's another good attacking position for Ulster.
:23:16. > :23:20.I always thought when you were coaching teams to play into the
:23:21. > :23:24.wind, it's quite easy to play into the wind because the pass naturally
:23:25. > :23:27.comes into your breadbasket. If you play with the wind behind you, you
:23:28. > :23:32.sling long passes out, sometimes they can drift away from you.
:23:33. > :23:37.Jackson, a fantastic break by Ulster, men are here and it will go
:23:38. > :23:43.all the way and Rory Scholes, they have sliced Edinburgh wide-open and
:23:44. > :23:47.they took the simplest and straightest route to the line.
:23:48. > :23:54.Well, this felt like just opening up a can of beans. They got steady
:23:55. > :24:00.possession, nice little move, comes to ten, scissors, straight cut and a
:24:01. > :24:06.nice off-load, a step off his left foot and schools was in. Nobody at
:24:07. > :24:12.home and that is the simpler city of a scissors, just the old-fashioned
:24:13. > :24:19.cut and off-load -- Scholes. Edinburgh drifted too wide. It came
:24:20. > :24:25.right back in through that gap. I Burleigh, I think. The second set
:24:26. > :24:28.piece have cost Edinburgh dearly, they almost needed someone to hold
:24:29. > :24:33.the ball for him. Remember, he's kicking with the wind. A chance for
:24:34. > :24:48.two more. Alarm bells ringing. Jackson gives it a good wind
:24:49. > :24:58.assisted and all of a sudden the task has become even more enormous
:24:59. > :25:03.for Edinburgh. Ulster lead 14-0. Ulster are taking Edinburgh apart.
:25:04. > :25:09.Look at that stadium. It is... I think it might have been analysis
:25:10. > :25:12.because the -- Burleigh certainly seemed to move out one man and the
:25:13. > :25:17.straight cut came right back in beside Burleigh. Lessons learned,
:25:18. > :25:24.here is the high one again, Pienaar this time. Du Preez is under it.
:25:25. > :25:30.Burleigh. Cuthbert is on the chase and look at that, that's the back.
:25:31. > :25:35.It's actually Burleigh who made the ground up himself to catch it, but
:25:36. > :25:43.that pushed it back a good 15-20 metres. Far too high. Against the
:25:44. > :25:46.wind. Here they come again, they are now beginning to tease Edinburgh
:25:47. > :25:55.with that ball over the top. There's the lead leaners, Connacht Sara Head
:25:56. > :25:59.by three points at Cardiff Cardiff ten, Cardiff three, a latest score.
:26:00. > :26:05.We will keep you updated, the only other matching play tonight. --
:26:06. > :26:13.Connacht Sara Head. This is Desmond, this storm, isn't it? Storm
:26:14. > :26:17.Desmond. Pienaar, who is at the heart of the eye of the storm at the
:26:18. > :26:22.moment because Ulster are rampaging through Edinburgh almost at will. I
:26:23. > :26:25.suppose there has to be a feeling in the Edinburgh camp that they have to
:26:26. > :26:31.contain them and hope the second half they can repeat... Here they
:26:32. > :26:37.come again. Plenty of space, held high there this time by the
:26:38. > :26:42.Edinburgh defence. Big shout from the seats below us. It was a
:26:43. > :26:49.sell-out crowd earlier in the week for the seated areas. It has filled
:26:50. > :26:54.up rather well in the last half hour or so, before the game. But there
:26:55. > :26:57.were some doubts, I'm sure, amongst the travelling Ulster support. Well
:26:58. > :27:04.tackled again. Ulster knocking everything down at the moment. The
:27:05. > :27:08.trouble is, as Andy said, Edinburgh don't want to kick this away. They
:27:09. > :27:13.have to somehow just keep hold of the ball playing into the wind, and
:27:14. > :27:17.if you watch Ulster they are clever because much of their attacks are
:27:18. > :27:20.behind obstructing line of three forwards. They pull the ball in
:27:21. > :27:27.behind these forwards. There's the high one. It's just not happening.
:27:28. > :27:34.At all. When it's returned, is returned with interest. Burleigh,
:27:35. > :27:39.look at that! Going back. I have to say, how many kicks is that he's
:27:40. > :27:43.tried? Has he not worked it out? Well, the trouble is if there is
:27:44. > :27:47.nobody to pasta, what do you do? In Rugby, if you are stuck behind your
:27:48. > :27:52.team because it's a long kick, watch this again. Is this Pienaar?
:27:53. > :27:56.Somebody digs it through, gets the ball, things inside the 22, sticks
:27:57. > :28:02.it up in and if the camera follows it, which it doesn't, it actually
:28:03. > :28:06.came back behind the 22. So he made about two with that one, I think, if
:28:07. > :28:11.he's lucky. The skipper is down and back up again. The Edinburgh
:28:12. > :28:17.psychology is survive this, let's just survive this. Just taking a
:28:18. > :28:22.look at the posts there, over your shoulder, it's phenomenal, the way
:28:23. > :28:26.the posts are being buckle. At the right-hand end. At the far left,
:28:27. > :28:31.it's actually not moving too much. Here we are though, game on.
:28:32. > :28:36.Edinburgh trying to run it out now, trying to keep it tight. Because
:28:37. > :28:42.it's the only option, really. As John said, when the flare is
:28:43. > :28:46.isolated -- when the player is isolated like Burleigh was, you have
:28:47. > :28:50.no option but to put foot the ball, but they've lost that again. Ulster
:28:51. > :28:54.picking up all the loose balls now. Here is Pienaar. Williams, stopped
:28:55. > :29:07.in his tracks. To our left, the big drum banging as
:29:08. > :29:18.well. Winding up Ulster here. Good tackle. By Allen there, this time
:29:19. > :29:24.Ulster not releasing and I would imagine there would be no hurry to
:29:25. > :29:32.take this one -- by Helu there. Very seldom do you do creative play in
:29:33. > :29:36.the like this. -- into wins like this. I don't think we are in any
:29:37. > :29:47.danger, John, he's not going to reach us. He gave that a huge thump
:29:48. > :29:51.and he's made about 20 metres. I wonder if Edinburgh might go wider.
:29:52. > :29:55.Everything they are doing a fitting that first port of players which is
:29:56. > :29:59.more easily defendable. It's risky going wide but Ulster are lining up
:30:00. > :30:02.fairly narrow and you can see Edinburgh thinking, hang on a
:30:03. > :30:06.minute, we have to get the half-time, 1560 minutes gone, we
:30:07. > :30:10.have to keep the ball into the wind and not kick it away which normally
:30:11. > :30:14.you would often think of kicking as part of your tactics -- 15 or 16
:30:15. > :30:19.minutes gone. Everything is up as now, they can't afford the ticket.
:30:20. > :30:28.Kennedy got away quickly and that's a better charge from Edinburgh.
:30:29. > :30:41.Kennedy again. Rushed forward. Burleigh. There is that tackle
:30:42. > :30:49.again. That is the second time. Williams does that as well. Kennedy
:30:50. > :30:59.gets away though. He is suffocated by two white shirts. Everything is
:31:00. > :31:08.quite narrow. Dickinson took that one in. Kennedy himself this time.
:31:09. > :31:24.Burleigh. A bit more room here for an this time. Dickinson. They go
:31:25. > :31:41.right this time. Cuthbert is in there. That was a risky ball. Here
:31:42. > :31:52.is Henry. The long pass. This time it is the full-back who knocks it
:31:53. > :31:55.down. Territory, space. They know if they keep Edinburgh down there, they
:31:56. > :32:03.could crack them. That was a much smarter play by Edinburgh. Matt
:32:04. > :32:08.Scott was prevalent. That is what they need to do but they must cut
:32:09. > :32:15.out the mistake, which is giving the ball back. You make a mistake, you
:32:16. > :32:26.lose 40 yards, and you are defending a lying out in your own 22. They
:32:27. > :32:32.have dealt with that well. A little bit more control, a little bit more
:32:33. > :32:42.of the ball and hands. Hardy has it, too Kennedy. Tight option up the
:32:43. > :32:50.line. Not quite a tackle. Dodgy ball to the captain. Here they come
:32:51. > :33:01.again. Edinburgh have a bit more space this time. Matt Scott changes
:33:02. > :33:09.his mind. Chris Dean over-the-top. Back they go again. Bressler this
:33:10. > :33:19.time. A bit more ball in hand for Edinburgh and the chance to run.
:33:20. > :33:26.Making good ground now. You halfway. Kennedy using the tight touch line.
:33:27. > :33:35.They manage now to almost get to that ten metre line again.
:33:36. > :33:46.The referee is telling him to get on with it. Still not making that much
:33:47. > :33:57.ground. Kennedy switches that one. That was clearly forward. Well, the
:33:58. > :34:02.referee's insight to their that even the wind did not sort that out for
:34:03. > :34:07.them. They are going through everything in their armoury. The
:34:08. > :34:12.defence just lines up. That was a little forward pass. Occasionally
:34:13. > :34:18.there will be a second middle pass. Matt Scott is doing well. He is
:34:19. > :34:26.whacking up with the ball in hand. All of those phases to make, what,
:34:27. > :34:32.10-15 metres? An interesting little exchange there between the referee
:34:33. > :34:37.and the Irish captain about that dive tackle. He has worn them I
:34:38. > :34:42.suppose informally that he is not too happy with the way it has been
:34:43. > :34:49.conducted and the lack of obvious involvement of arms. McCall and
:34:50. > :34:59.Williamsburg have one each so far. I would not too despondent. In the
:35:00. > :35:03.second half, you would be thinking, if we can get that ball down into
:35:04. > :35:09.their corners, we can cause them trouble. The Ulster men have already
:35:10. > :35:17.had a two big injuries. This is the key area for me. The first one it
:35:18. > :35:22.was not good, and now if Edinburgh can disrupt this, it is revenge.
:35:23. > :35:30.There has been a passage of play now, where they move from their own
:35:31. > :35:35.22 to the Ulster ten metre line. Significantly holding possession,
:35:36. > :35:38.that has been a useful addition to their armoury, they have mastered
:35:39. > :35:46.that aspect of a difficult evening where the weather forecast had the
:35:47. > :35:53.worst of the storm at seven o'clock. It was bang on. Jackson spins it out
:35:54. > :36:05.to the full-back. Here we go again. Inside again to Henry. Into the
:36:06. > :36:12.heart of the Edinburgh defence. Edinburgh, stretched to the limit
:36:13. > :36:23.here. Back they come to the middle. Juggled to get back backwards from
:36:24. > :36:31.Pienaar. They go left again. They have an extra man. Nelson take it
:36:32. > :36:52.in. Back they come. Lumping Edinburgh -- thumping. Luke Marshall
:36:53. > :36:58.takes it in. Pienaar again. Fantastic skills from the Irish
:36:59. > :37:12.team. Trimble is grounded. Edinburgh have it. The difficult bit, what to
:37:13. > :37:19.do, what to do? Manage to make about six inches there.
:37:20. > :37:29.Again, that pressure. Well, the referee has done them a favour,
:37:30. > :37:33.giving them a chance, but the Ulster defence there... I watched Coleman
:37:34. > :37:42.gets up and he did not look too happy. Williams absolutely believe
:37:43. > :37:48.this. Watch this. That was greedy. They should have kept their shape.
:37:49. > :37:51.Pienaar sends these big passes out and there is Williams just trying to
:37:52. > :38:01.go through the middle and messes it up. Coleman at some stage actually
:38:02. > :38:04.came back pretty groggily. That is back to the incident on the far
:38:05. > :38:12.side. Let's see if Andy can explain. Just like the last passage
:38:13. > :38:18.of play, but that was a very poor defence from Edinburgh initially. It
:38:19. > :38:21.seems too easy and the first phase, but they're scrambling defence was
:38:22. > :38:25.outstanding, and that tells you everything about the camaraderie
:38:26. > :38:30.that they have got. They were fighting there and they had to do
:38:31. > :38:34.that. They are still OK with this wind but they need to clear their
:38:35. > :38:42.lines, and we know how difficult that is in this wind. The captain's
:38:43. > :38:51.day is done. I heard the referee say there was head injury assessment, I
:38:52. > :38:58.think. There is Watson coming on. Watson is coming on. They will miss
:38:59. > :39:03.Coleman because he is a big smash about player. So is Watson, mind
:39:04. > :39:14.you. This next scrum is really a vital. I think the last scrum,
:39:15. > :39:19.Ulster are completely comfortable, state right, went left, that is why
:39:20. > :39:24.they are in this position. They have so many options here. They have
:39:25. > :39:28.Trimble on one side, Scholes on the other side, Nelson up the middle,
:39:29. > :39:34.and they have three yellows in front of them. I think this could be a
:39:35. > :39:48.complete roller coaster, with Nick Williams providing activity from the
:39:49. > :40:08.back. A big shout. They are just holding them at the moment. Good
:40:09. > :40:20.scrum. Squeeze is on. Good scrum. Trying to move it out bit by bit.
:40:21. > :40:27.Still, the score is just 14 point two no points. Good round was made,
:40:28. > :40:34.a very good kick from Sean Kennedy. The ball tumbled its way toward the
:40:35. > :40:39.touch line. It was Ross forward taking out his opposite man,
:40:40. > :40:52.Herring. Herring actually ended on his forearm, he smashed it into
:40:53. > :40:56.another player's face. This wind will make it difficult. Just
:40:57. > :41:06.watching the touch judge's flag there. You can perhaps hear the wind
:41:07. > :41:13.whistling Andy microphones. -- in the microphones. Just riling at the
:41:14. > :41:23.right hand side here. -- just rattling. A little shuffle before he
:41:24. > :41:35.got it away. Moving it beautifully and getting it through the first
:41:36. > :41:43.tackle as well this time it is Tuohy. Jackson. Everything going
:41:44. > :41:54.through the nine and ten. When it goes, how far it goes... Nelson this
:41:55. > :42:05.time. Scholes. The follow-up is good. Pienaar to Tuohy. Tuohy set it
:42:06. > :42:12.up. Edinburgh have it. Burleigh turns inside. Running into traffic,
:42:13. > :42:21.straightening up again. Wield it back, though. Just a bit short here,
:42:22. > :42:36.but here is a chance. A long pass in the wind. No chance of holding onto
:42:37. > :42:41.it. It has been turned over again. The expense of Ulster style now.
:42:42. > :42:49.Good tackle. He had to make that one. Pienaar again. A gap here.
:42:50. > :43:01.Decided against it. Nelson. He felt his way through. Pienaar. Still not
:43:02. > :43:13.making the breakthrough, Ulster, but they have been dairy patient.
:43:14. > :43:20.Scholes with intent on the left side again. That has gone backwards. A
:43:21. > :43:28.bit scrappy from both sides now. More continuity from Ulster.
:43:29. > :43:35.Wonderful skills from Williams. He never came off when he was in site
:43:36. > :43:42.of the line. That is exactly what Edinburgh would want there. Exactly.
:43:43. > :43:47.I think Williams is having a good night. Despite making a few
:43:48. > :43:57.mistakes. Looks like another injury. Good defence by Edinburgh. A
:43:58. > :44:06.lot of what time to -- ten two is doing, there have been a couple of
:44:07. > :44:11.-- a lot of what Ulster is doing. If you are Edinburgh, you just try to
:44:12. > :44:17.stay. Does keep doing what you are doing. That for sure does not look
:44:18. > :44:25.good. That is your old. Of holding your head because that is an ankle
:44:26. > :44:33.-- that is your old theory of holding her head, because that is an
:44:34. > :44:37.ankle injury. The player is down, it is Scholes. Eye entering the referee
:44:38. > :44:48.saying it is a structure job. -- I am listening, the referee is saying.
:44:49. > :44:53.That is the third big injury for them. I am surprised they are
:44:54. > :45:03.playing so much rugby with the wind behind them. You saw Paddy Jackson
:45:04. > :45:07.Shin the ball for just too long. As soon as the phase finished, you can
:45:08. > :45:11.see that the wind is really blowing and they just used the time to
:45:12. > :45:19.regroup, really think about what they are going to do next. Coleman
:45:20. > :45:25.has gone off but Ulster have been affected worse than Edinburgh, and
:45:26. > :45:31.Edinburgh need to dig in. They have done well to only be two tries down
:45:32. > :45:38.with this wind, and if they can just hold out for the last 12 minutes, it
:45:39. > :45:43.will be a good half. Man, oh, man. His left ankle. We shouldn't be
:45:44. > :45:50.watching. He makes a break. Watch that left ankle there. Ouch. He goes
:45:51. > :45:56.up to the inside of his knee and his ankle turns, and that is not good.
:45:57. > :46:03.The speed of the incident there, the two redheads, and it is Nelson, the
:46:04. > :46:12.full-back, confirmed down. Solomon is there, suffering and the cold.
:46:13. > :46:18.Not really Cape Town weather, is it? Games are about momentum. This is a
:46:19. > :46:25.little pause in play. Ulster have the momentum. There is nothing wrong
:46:26. > :46:32.with Coleman's head. He is happy. He has come back on. Watson has come
:46:33. > :46:38.back to the relative warmth of the dugout. All of this hanging about
:46:39. > :46:44.for the players to are still involved is just not good. It is
:46:45. > :46:50.affecting their muscle, their temperature. And your brain gets
:46:51. > :46:55.used to getting an a certain mode, which is running around and hitting
:46:56. > :47:02.things, and it suddenly all stops. Even the top psychologist would tell
:47:03. > :47:09.you that whether it is golf, football or rugby, your mind wanders
:47:10. > :47:13.sometimes, and the All Blacks have a specialist psychologist. I was
:47:14. > :47:18.reading Dan Carter's book, and he was speaking about visiting the mind
:47:19. > :47:26.Doctor he was telling him to not let his mind wander in big games. The
:47:27. > :47:32.Ulster substitute this time is Stewart's McCloskey, number 22. He
:47:33. > :47:38.has come in in place of the full-back. Some significant
:47:39. > :47:41.adjustments since the Ulster took the field, even allowing for the
:47:42. > :47:52.fact that Williams was a late change himself. So, another set piece for
:47:53. > :47:57.Edinburgh to negotiate. 11.5 minutes or thereabouts to go until half
:47:58. > :48:06.time. We have managed to seal off the main dangers. Kennedy. He took
:48:07. > :48:10.the option of turning inside their so that the gap was narrowing it
:48:11. > :48:19.badly on him and front of his own dugout. Turned back, here he is
:48:20. > :48:24.again. Fumbles that one, took his eye off of it. Was looking for the
:48:25. > :48:39.contact before it ever arrived. Ulster again. Good tackle by Chris
:48:40. > :48:50.root macro. . -- Chris Dean. A quick pass from Pienaar. Williams.
:48:51. > :48:58.Kennedy. Get it to Dougie Fife. Here is a good run. This is more like it.
:48:59. > :49:02.Just lost his footing there. Back they come. Plenty of Edinburgh
:49:03. > :49:10.shirts here. Cuthbert takes a straight line. I think Kennedy is
:49:11. > :49:14.having a cracking game. Some of this stuff is good, constructive build up
:49:15. > :49:20.play. They have stopped kicking for one thing, it seems to have helped.
:49:21. > :49:24.They are not conceding ground or finding the ball going back over
:49:25. > :49:30.their shoulder. That was an ambitious pass. A good ball. Now
:49:31. > :49:45.there is a break in the far side. Taking down just on the line. Into
:49:46. > :49:55.the 22, Kenny spins. -- Kennedy. Oh! Early was absolutely hammered
:49:56. > :50:02.there. I think that was Watson. No, it was Burleigh. He thought, oh, no.
:50:03. > :50:08.I think the referee thought he was done for. He looks up and thinks,
:50:09. > :50:18.this is it. Oh, yeah, he is bent right back. The look on his face. It
:50:19. > :50:26.is a good spot. He died Burleigh was in trouble, didn't he? -- he thought
:50:27. > :50:28.Burleigh. Passing on his combo meds to the players for the way they are
:50:29. > :50:36.dealing with the difficult conditions. -- complements. It is a
:50:37. > :50:42.good thing it is not raining. Or is a lot more action. Ulster are not
:50:43. > :50:45.using the wind as much. Edinburgh are in a group and I think they can
:50:46. > :51:01.be proud of what they have done so far. Kennedy at nine is growing into
:51:02. > :51:11.this 15 a side. A busy player. Same ball. The other thing about having
:51:12. > :51:21.Watson, you have two very similar wing forward to can fly around. --
:51:22. > :51:29.been forwards who can fly around. The advantage is with Ulster. Not so
:51:30. > :51:36.sure that that ?1 is not significant, but it is a fact. We
:51:37. > :51:43.are watching the game to the left. The proud is quiet. They have kept
:51:44. > :51:53.the ball in hands. They have done really well. There are some
:51:54. > :51:58.questions for Ulster. A bit untidy to finish here. 1080 did not quite
:51:59. > :52:09.get away, but they have an advantage. -- Kennedy did not quite
:52:10. > :52:15.get away. Nominally strong individual. They still have it, and
:52:16. > :52:20.Brett, making ground. Come two are not committing any players -- they
:52:21. > :52:27.still have it, Edinburgh, making ground. Matt Scott. Back where they
:52:28. > :52:34.started now. Kennedy looks left, goes right. That tackle around the
:52:35. > :52:40.ankles. The trout is beginning to come to life, they can feel just a
:52:41. > :52:52.little bit of momentum coming to the red and black. -- the crowd. Good
:52:53. > :53:00.play by Matt Scott. Same again. Ulster have gone over the top
:53:01. > :53:04.there. Not for long. McCloskey was unceremoniously dumped out over
:53:05. > :53:12.there. It is a real exercise in keeping the ball. They have just
:53:13. > :53:23.kept it. Look at that. One pass. Keep the ball, look up, CA forward.
:53:24. > :53:29.Coleman goes in, good play. They have it, they have stolen it, and
:53:30. > :53:34.that is the impact of that tackle. The Edinburgh... They are keeping it
:53:35. > :53:46.in hand. Six minutes of the first half remaining. Ulster lead, 14-0.
:53:47. > :53:51.Seems like ages now sent Ulster managed to score. They are
:53:52. > :53:58.threatening to cut loose again. That was a crucial tackle there. Pienaar
:53:59. > :54:08.is not amused. Another Ulster player down. I thought that player was in a
:54:09. > :54:14.delicate position. A good off-load. This time it is Scholes. Well, that
:54:15. > :54:23.is not bad by Kennedy. He sizes him up. That is more of a dangerous
:54:24. > :54:28.tackle, that chop tackle. When you see that in real-time, it actually
:54:29. > :54:33.looks very scary. The player has no control over his own momentum. He is
:54:34. > :54:40.just going straight through the ankles. Ulster have had a lot of
:54:41. > :54:48.injuries. Wilson had a back spasm before the game, and now these. And
:54:49. > :54:58.Edinburgh, it and the Solomon's a bit of a company Doctor, he went to
:54:59. > :55:02.Northampton and did not last, came to Edinburgh and brought a lot of
:55:03. > :55:11.players, completely swept it clean, and he has organised Edinburgh. I
:55:12. > :55:23.think I heard that there is going to be a luck made through the TML. --
:55:24. > :55:34.TMO. There was nothing wrong with that tackle. He is actually having
:55:35. > :55:40.to go. The rules of had a assessment are, if you suspect and caution, you
:55:41. > :55:49.don't do -- concussion, you don't do a had assessment. -- had assessment.
:55:50. > :55:58.Not quite last Man standing, but getting close to it. The Ulster
:55:59. > :56:03.crowd is calling for more as we had for five minutes left. Chris Henry
:56:04. > :56:10.calling for action. Suggesting Edinburgh were delaying things. A
:56:11. > :56:22.good drive going here, Edinburgh. They are on the rumble.
:56:23. > :56:34.Straight through again. They are held up this time. Kennedy has it.
:56:35. > :56:43.He did well to get it back at all. This time he puts boot to ball. And
:56:44. > :56:53.gives it away. Here they come. Pienaar is inside. It gets away.
:56:54. > :57:01.Guess who? Chris Henry. Absolutely phenomenal. All over the pitch now,
:57:02. > :57:04.Ulster. Here they come. McCloskey looking for the off-load, and he is
:57:05. > :57:10.well wrapped up there by number 12, Matt Scott. Huge pressure for Ulster
:57:11. > :57:18.now as they feel half-time approaching full top Jackson is
:57:19. > :57:24.looking for the -- approaching. Jackson is looking for the off-load.
:57:25. > :57:31.Momentum again for Ulster. Pienaar dances through to the five metre
:57:32. > :57:38.line. Good pressure from Edinburgh. They were really stretched there.
:57:39. > :57:44.They were stretched. That all came from kicking the ball away into the
:57:45. > :57:50.wind. Keep the ball in hand. It is the one time they have done it in 20
:57:51. > :57:56.minutes and look at what happened. Pienaar is involved. He is a
:57:57. > :58:06.world-class. Coleman has been wandering around, not looking too
:58:07. > :58:11.healthy in my opinion. Well, it was a desperate passage of play, that
:58:12. > :58:21.last two minutes or so there. Brave defence. The runners about Ulster
:58:22. > :58:28.have had, Marshall, McCloskey, Ludik even, these are good runners and
:58:29. > :58:30.they haven't diminished Ulster. They have diminished the actual rate of
:58:31. > :58:43.scoring. If he is at all seemingly injured,
:58:44. > :58:49.they cannot proceed with the scrum. He is giving it away by smiling
:58:50. > :58:56.there. I assault no discernible facial expression. Pienaar knows
:58:57. > :59:00.that that should have been a try. -- I saw no discernible. Arguably no
:59:01. > :59:05.better player in broken possession than Pienaar. He has got
:59:06. > :59:11.everything. He can kick and he has an incredibly long service line. He
:59:12. > :59:13.can pick any one of three people who might be attacking. This is a key
:59:14. > :59:32.scrum. Kennedy gets it into where he needed
:59:33. > :59:45.to get it. Ulster are again turning the screw. It saps the energy, but
:59:46. > :59:54.it is also eating the clock. He is kind of getting to sit here in this
:59:55. > :00:05.scrum. He is not having his normal dominant night. This arguably is the
:00:06. > :00:09.biggest test of the season so far. Not just the venue, but the
:00:10. > :00:17.personnel. The weather, the conditions, everything. This is one
:00:18. > :00:21.tough gig. They have managed to turn it around in the sense that they
:00:22. > :00:29.have stemmed the tide. Two minutes left to defend what they have got.
:00:30. > :00:35.This is Ross Ford. Well done. Pienaar is all over them.
:00:36. > :00:43.Du Preez is in trouble, he is isolated, but they've managed to
:00:44. > :00:50.help him. He did really well. They think they have got it, there are
:00:51. > :00:54.bodies everywhere. I don't know how Ian Davies can make out what is
:00:55. > :01:01.going on. But Ulster throwing the kitchen sink at this. Kennedy again
:01:02. > :01:07.doesn't find touch. This is trouble. A trip, almost, there, a big shout
:01:08. > :01:11.for a trip, but Ian Davies allows them to go on. Here they come again,
:01:12. > :01:16.women -- Williams ambles back. They've lost it. Coman takes it out.
:01:17. > :01:21.They have to hold the ball for the best part of a minute. That could be
:01:22. > :01:27.a crucial part, to foot the ball, now, what can Ulster do? That has
:01:28. > :01:31.worked, that has worked. That's certainly the best kick Edinburgh
:01:32. > :01:34.have put in all right. You've got to say that some of the Edinburgh stuff
:01:35. > :01:40.tonight has been really, really good. That's a good kick, Kennedy
:01:41. > :01:44.had a couple of dodgy ones will stop that scrum, when you are liberate
:01:45. > :01:47.and the scrum is just speaking back in the right-hand side, picking that
:01:48. > :01:51.ball up and making any kind of territory is a major examination --
:01:52. > :01:57.you are a major examination -- you are number eight. He passed, flying
:01:58. > :02:01.colours. Rory Scholes comes back on which releases Paul Marshall back to
:02:02. > :02:05.the bench. We can hardly say they are back to where they started this
:02:06. > :02:11.time. They are back to one of their permutations, anyway. Thankfully
:02:12. > :02:18.Scholes is all K. So do Ulster have something here in the last minute of
:02:19. > :02:23.the first half? They have been closed down by Edinburgh, who apart
:02:24. > :02:28.from the wreckage of the first 12 minutes or so, have produced what
:02:29. > :02:33.has to be said to be a really commendable performance. Yes. Now,
:02:34. > :02:43.this is the test. Where does this go? Get this out. Yellow Robin get
:02:44. > :02:47.it off the pitch. Cuthbert fancies something here, he's got Pienaar
:02:48. > :02:52.beside him. Edinburgh have made good ground and they have Ulster on the
:02:53. > :02:55.retreat here. Ross Ford, the Burleigh, Burleigh, out to the
:02:56. > :03:00.centre field, the number 13, Christine. Just the momentum has
:03:01. > :03:06.slightly gone but Edinburgh still feel it's worth carrying on -- Chris
:03:07. > :03:11.Dean. This might or might not be an expensive passage of play for either
:03:12. > :03:20.side. They are way over the red zone. Kennedy dips early and again
:03:21. > :03:26.they come. Nice pass. A good chance here, he has held, held, Cuthbert
:03:27. > :03:30.loses it. But retrieves it. Now they have to take a decision. They have
:03:31. > :03:35.to take a decision here, and that's a good decision by Chris Dean. Who
:03:36. > :03:40.eventually decided enough was enough, because that was getting
:03:41. > :03:44.very scary, as we came to the end of a pulsating first half in most
:03:45. > :03:50.trying of conditions both sides. Ulster shot ahead and took all the
:03:51. > :03:55.chances they could get in the first passage of play, certainly up to
:03:56. > :04:00.about 15 minutes they dominated this game with the wind at their backs
:04:01. > :04:07.because there was only one sided it as the game went early. They had the
:04:08. > :04:10.two tries, this is the penalty try. Coman was offside, gave away the
:04:11. > :04:13.penalty try and that was the right decision but Edinburgh in general
:04:14. > :04:17.have played, well, this was the second try, just from a straight
:04:18. > :04:21.10-12 got on the breakthrough but I think Ulster will be in that
:04:22. > :04:25.dressing room kicking themselves. They should have scored more points.
:04:26. > :04:32.That has brought us neatly to half-time and Ulster lead 14-0.
:04:33. > :04:39.Under many circumstances 14-0 at half-time would seem like a bad
:04:40. > :04:43.score, from Edinburgh's point of view playing into that horrendous
:04:44. > :04:47.wind, not too bad. They have done quite well, they started shakily.
:04:48. > :04:52.They were kicking too much. The ball was getting blown back. They played
:04:53. > :04:55.rig -- smart rugby for the middle 20 minutes and have been gutsy and
:04:56. > :04:59.defence. They have made mistakes but you have to make mistakes, they have
:05:00. > :05:04.worked hard to make sure they did not concede more tries. A very good
:05:05. > :05:10.40 minutes for Edinburgh. And an additional 40 minutes were both
:05:11. > :05:16.sides? Ulster have lost in that regard, a ball carrying like that
:05:17. > :05:19.will be badly missed. Edinburgh are right in this game. Early on I
:05:20. > :05:25.thought Ulster could blow Edinburgh away. They have dug in really well.
:05:26. > :05:26.The point we thought Ulster could blow Edinburgh away was four minutes
:05:27. > :05:29.in and blow Edinburgh away was four minutes
:05:30. > :05:33.in and a penalty try. It was the right decision, it was a good
:05:34. > :05:37.line-out from Ulster, they drove it well, it was good defence initially
:05:38. > :05:41.from Edinburgh but Chris Henry comes round and watch Coman coming back in
:05:42. > :05:49.and Pienaar identifies there is no defence there. What the referee is
:05:50. > :05:52.saying is if Mike Coman was not an offside position that would have
:05:53. > :05:54.been a try. That's why he gave a penalty try. It was the right
:05:55. > :05:59.decision. You see Henry, the number seven, a good tackle by Hardie and
:06:00. > :06:04.Helu. Pienaar sees there's no defence, Coman is coming back, he
:06:05. > :06:10.comes in, never gets behind the line, which would have taken him
:06:11. > :06:12.onside. Then, as you can see, he comes in with the white boots there
:06:13. > :06:16.and I think Edinburgh were quite lucky not to get down to 14 men
:06:17. > :06:20.because the referee was quite lenient there. Coman could easily
:06:21. > :06:25.have seen ten as well as the penalty try. The referee was careful to
:06:26. > :06:30.speak to the TV umpire because let's face it, that could have been a
:06:31. > :06:36.yellow card and Edinburgh would have been... UC the guy and you have to
:06:37. > :06:39.try to stop. If he had waited to get behind the line Pienaar would have
:06:40. > :06:43.scored. He took a chance. Some referees might not noticed it but he
:06:44. > :06:48.did. Lucky to get away with it. Going down to 14 men in this wind
:06:49. > :06:50.would be difficult. Edinburgh were not playing the conditions
:06:51. > :06:55.particularly well at the start of the match, too many kicks early on
:06:56. > :07:00.and potentially the second try was a result of losing possession and got
:07:01. > :07:03.knocked back up the pitch. It was a kick in the wrong area. Very much.
:07:04. > :07:09.This was too easy from the first phase. It was a great finish,
:07:10. > :07:14.nothing wrong with that from Scholes, but Kennedy comes too far
:07:15. > :07:18.here. He comes to far across and has overcommitted and that's a good step
:07:19. > :07:22.from Scholes. He's got the gas to finish it off. The first phase
:07:23. > :07:25.tries, you don't have the defence coach, Edinburgh will be
:07:26. > :07:29.disappointed with that because you shouldn't really concede from the
:07:30. > :07:34.first phase. Kennedy overcommit. Hardie is not in a position to make
:07:35. > :07:38.it, it's not as defence, not his tackle. Scholes takes it in and it
:07:39. > :07:43.was a good try. At that stage it was 14-0 and you saw Edinburgh were
:07:44. > :07:46.under the cosh. With this wind you thought they could lose the game in
:07:47. > :07:50.the next ten minutes, but they dug in really well. They certainly did
:07:51. > :07:55.begin and their word decent passages of play from an Edinburgh point of
:07:56. > :08:00.view. 14 zero down, they had to be smarter and they started producing.
:08:01. > :08:03.Yes, there was too much kicking in the first ten minutes, it was going
:08:04. > :08:08.all over the place. This is when they start playing smarter. One
:08:09. > :08:12.path, in, hit, good clear out. They are coming in, the forwards are on
:08:13. > :08:21.the front foot. Kennedy, who really came on to the game, 1-0, zigzag,
:08:22. > :08:27.not taking any chance with the wind, one past the Bresler, taking it up,
:08:28. > :08:30.Kennedy calling it. This goes, two passes there, but back into the
:08:31. > :08:34.channel and Matt Scott was bringing the ball in well. He does that
:08:35. > :08:39.exceptionally well. Look at Kennedy, under a bit of pressure. He is still
:08:40. > :08:44.controlling it. Again, one path to Hardie. All it is doing is eating
:08:45. > :08:50.into the time, not giving Ulster the chance. One more path, that's OK,
:08:51. > :08:55.keeping it nice and controlling it. They are attacking it. The trouble
:08:56. > :08:59.is once you try something you can't make the mistake and this
:09:00. > :09:03.unfortunately went that one past too much and if you try and force the
:09:04. > :09:07.pass, which in many ways you've got to do because the wind, sometimes
:09:08. > :09:11.it's hard to catch, once you lose it and immediately you are defending.
:09:12. > :09:15.Watch this, the ball is kicked down and suddenly you are defending 40
:09:16. > :09:20.yards behind where you are attacking. It is quite frustrating,
:09:21. > :09:23.isn't it? We mentioned the importance of the scrum-half and how
:09:24. > :09:28.difficult it is in these conditions in particular. Sean Kennedy seems to
:09:29. > :09:32.be marshalling things fairly well. Both scrum-halves have controlled
:09:33. > :09:35.things pretty well. Ruan Pienaar is a great player, very experienced.
:09:36. > :09:46.Sean Kennedy, not nearly the same experience but I'm delighted for
:09:47. > :09:50.him. He came on the scene a couple of years ago and I was impressed. He
:09:51. > :09:53.got game time at Glasgow and looked like he had a real future. At
:09:54. > :09:56.Edinburgh he hasn't had much game time, he's had injuries. It's great
:09:57. > :09:58.to see him in the conditions tonight. I used to hate conditions
:09:59. > :10:01.like this as a scrum-half, it's so difficult to pass and he's done
:10:02. > :10:04.well. Ulster have had the wind with them in the first half. You had a
:10:05. > :10:08.couple of breaks during the match but Edinburgh's defence was at times
:10:09. > :10:12.remarkable. Yes, the defence initially was poor, first phase they
:10:13. > :10:18.get away too easily. They get in behind them but watch the scrambling
:10:19. > :10:22.defence. Henry again, like an openside, but great difference from
:10:23. > :10:26.Hardie. There is the openside back. Then you get a bit of attitude and
:10:27. > :10:30.desperation in defence. That's what you need. You are five yards from
:10:31. > :10:33.your own try line and you will have really got to make sure you are
:10:34. > :10:37.making a tackle, speed off the line, because 14-0, you are keeping
:10:38. > :10:41.yourselves in the game with this defence and it tells you everything
:10:42. > :10:44.about the attitude of a team when you are showing that sort of
:10:45. > :10:47.desperation in defence. It was really smart. Knocking the players
:10:48. > :10:51.backwards as well, the defence was such you are knocking players back
:10:52. > :10:56.and they are having to work incredibly hard to recycle. Exactly.
:10:57. > :11:01.They are enthusiastic, making good hits, encouraging each other. Look
:11:02. > :11:05.at Helu coming in there, when you get things like that, the coming off
:11:06. > :11:09.the win, Williams knocks it on, he takes it too far and yet again
:11:10. > :11:13.another attack, which looks really dangerous for a lot of that
:11:14. > :11:17.possession. Edinburgh were able to snuff out and clear their lines.
:11:18. > :11:22.Second-half, Edinburgh will have the wind with them. How key will that be
:11:23. > :11:25.because they can kick a little more, they have to be careful with the
:11:26. > :11:29.kicks because they could disappear over whatever is south of here. They
:11:30. > :11:35.couldn't kick in the first half, that so they maybe have it in their
:11:36. > :11:40.armoury. They definitely have it in their armoury. Standing here, it
:11:41. > :11:43.play -- it feels more than a 14 point win. Ulster played conditions
:11:44. > :11:48.well, Pienaar put the number of kicks in. Jackson was probing. Any
:11:49. > :11:52.turnover, they were kicking it down. Jackson kicked it through and it
:11:53. > :11:57.went dead. Wind like this, the ball will go away. You have to smart and
:11:58. > :12:02.Burleigh, Kennedy, Matt Scott, they have to play the game down there but
:12:03. > :12:05.they have to play the right way. Absolutely, we will talk about this
:12:06. > :12:09.game a bit more but next year the Six Nations will be up and running
:12:10. > :12:12.again. Scotland, after a very fine World Cup, will be up against
:12:13. > :12:17.England in their first match at Murrayfield. Some of the guys we
:12:18. > :12:23.have talked about will be in action, may be thinking ahead at this stage
:12:24. > :12:29.Edinburgh law have lots of claims -- Edinburgh have big, important games
:12:30. > :12:33.to player. Scotland against England, bring it on. Eddie Jones, the new
:12:34. > :12:37.England coach, I think he started the day after Visa problems, for me,
:12:38. > :12:41.it's never been a problem with talent with England, it's been about
:12:42. > :12:44.selection and picking the right team. Eddie Jones has bags of
:12:45. > :12:47.experience, so I think they have become a very dangerous proposition
:12:48. > :12:51.in the Six Nations, despite obviously not getting out of the
:12:52. > :12:54.group stage and Rugby World Cup. You couldn't have a better opening to
:12:55. > :12:59.the RBS Six Nations and Scotland should be looking at going, bring it
:13:00. > :13:03.on, let's do it, let's get in and after the World Cup Scotland have to
:13:04. > :13:07.keep the momentum going and really have a real effort and make a real
:13:08. > :13:11.impact in the Six Nations, which we have not really had for a number of
:13:12. > :13:15.years. Absolutely, home against England's first game is incredible,
:13:16. > :13:20.fans at home, await Wales Italy and Ireland as well. If you get away
:13:21. > :13:23.with potentially, we haven't won in Twickenham fans for such a long time
:13:24. > :13:27.but Wales, Italy and Ireland, all teams with lots to prove but
:13:28. > :13:36.potentially it could happen. Glasgow, Pro12 champions, have gone
:13:37. > :13:40.to Cardiff, have gone to Italy and won. The same with Edinburgh. They
:13:41. > :13:44.know they can do it. It's putting it all together. The start, let's make
:13:45. > :13:48.sure it's the start and we press on and really start to be competitive
:13:49. > :13:52.again. What for Scotland would be a successful Six Nations, would you
:13:53. > :13:57.say? We didn't win any next -- last year. I believe we become big
:13:58. > :14:00.contenders. It's a massive jump from losing all the games last year to
:14:01. > :14:04.being contenders but it's all about the first game. It's about momentum.
:14:05. > :14:09.You can lose it but you can get it very quickly. Beat England first up,
:14:10. > :14:13.then we can take it off from there. Andy Nicol knows what it's like to
:14:14. > :14:23.pick up the Calcutta cup as Scotland captain. Wouldn't it be nice, if the
:14:24. > :14:25.Scotland captain picked it up at Murrayfield? Let's focus on here at
:14:26. > :14:28.the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast. It's unbelievably blowy. The top of
:14:29. > :14:31.the posts are flying in the wind. What will be key from an Edinburgh
:14:32. > :14:35.point of view, 14 behind, the game is far from over? They will have
:14:36. > :14:38.needed the rest in the changing room, they have had to work hard in
:14:39. > :14:42.the first 40 minutes so they will have needed their ten or 12 minutes
:14:43. > :14:46.after time to regroup and recharge their batteries. They have to play
:14:47. > :14:51.the wind. Ruan Pienaar controlled the game really well in the first
:14:52. > :14:55.half. He did one great kick. This is exactly what needs to happen. Good
:14:56. > :14:58.play by Ulster, they are going through the phases, but they are not
:14:59. > :15:02.really getting anywhere and Edinburgh are defending well and
:15:03. > :15:05.Pienaar, he is bringing players in, they are hitting it up and they are
:15:06. > :15:09.seeing where Edinburgh's defences. They are not getting anywhere. This
:15:10. > :15:12.is what Pienaar does really well. This is what Kennedy will need to do
:15:13. > :15:18.in the second half. Look at that, rolling all the way down to the five
:15:19. > :15:24.yard line. That is using the wind in a smart way, try the defence, see
:15:25. > :15:28.what happens when it's not on, make sure you get down because Edinburgh
:15:29. > :15:32.had shown it so hard to get out of your 22 and that's what they need to
:15:33. > :15:35.do in the second half. The best thing to see from any point of view
:15:36. > :15:38.is those Ulster defenders turning round on their heels and having to
:15:39. > :15:43.chase back, which is what they didn't have to do in the first half.
:15:44. > :15:48.Exactly, what use are Edinburgh if they are not scared to through the
:15:49. > :15:51.long passes considering the wind, which is quite brave, but they did
:15:52. > :15:54.it quite effectively. It means you can use the forward is to be
:15:55. > :15:58.physical, take it forward, but when there's a chance out wide it's still
:15:59. > :16:01.on. You have to take it. It's two tries, they can win this game but
:16:02. > :16:05.they are going to have to play really good rugby in the second half
:16:06. > :16:09.to do that. The home fans at the Kingspan are happy and smiley. Can
:16:10. > :16:13.the Edinburgh side silence them in next 40 minutes? You will find out
:16:14. > :16:18.right here on BBC's do Scotland and the company of our commentary team.
:16:19. > :16:23.-- BBC Two Scotland. COMMENTATOR:
:16:24. > :16:28.Edinburgh are first out and a big hand for Ulster as they come out,
:16:29. > :16:32.obviously as well. I suspect they are not going to be happy, coming
:16:33. > :16:38.out, as they will have had a rocket that will have added more onto the
:16:39. > :16:44.first-half score. There is a change there. Coman has gone. Didn't look
:16:45. > :16:47.happy to me at all. I know the TV boys in Northern Ireland here are
:16:48. > :16:52.talking about Ulster having to do more of the same. I think Edinburgh
:16:53. > :16:57.just do more of the same and they can speak this game. It's going to
:16:58. > :17:01.be interesting because it is easier pass the ball man-to-man going into
:17:02. > :17:04.the wind. When you pass the ball with the wind at your back it drifts
:17:05. > :17:10.away. It's going to be fascinating to see what Edinburgh do. Andy
:17:11. > :17:13.Nichol was talking me through that and the discussion we had about the
:17:14. > :17:20.effect of the wind on scrum-half's passing. However, we might come back
:17:21. > :17:24.to that because Burleigh has the ball, Edinburgh playing from left to
:17:25. > :17:31.right. They are 14 points adrift. It's not by any stretch of the
:17:32. > :17:35.imagination over yet. Because there is possibly just an experiment from
:17:36. > :17:38.Pienaar, to see what it was like to kick into the wind and that just
:17:39. > :17:47.about dropped out of Kennedy's range there. So let's see how quickly
:17:48. > :17:53.Edinburgh can get into their stride. Matt Scott takes it in.
:17:54. > :18:01.There is a stray body there in a white shirt. No surprise, it was
:18:02. > :18:08.Nick Williams. Something of an attritional 40 men it's for Ulster,
:18:09. > :18:12.who lost so many players, lost in Samurai -- unceremoniously, heaved
:18:13. > :18:16.out of the way. Burleigh just running into Chris Dean,
:18:17. > :18:23.unfortunately. Didn't give him any room to manoeuvre. The door has
:18:24. > :18:28.closed on the far side. Ulster come up in a blanket rush of white
:18:29. > :18:32.shirts. Hamish Watson skips in and out. He is off and running, Hamish
:18:33. > :18:39.Watson, explosive turn of pace there. He made a ten or 15 metres,
:18:40. > :18:45.Burleigh. They overran him, he had to check because the pass would have
:18:46. > :18:49.been forward. Kennedy, had a good first half, coming down the corner.
:18:50. > :18:53.A little grubber kick, clever, running out of space but may very
:18:54. > :18:57.well have kicked possession away. That -- but they have won it, they
:18:58. > :19:11.have turned it over. Edinburgh, gain. Burleigh is isolated, Kennedy
:19:12. > :19:23.turns it in, still rolling. Still running. Cardiff and Connacht is a
:19:24. > :19:26.separate issue, it could be a short result the night yet. But let's face
:19:27. > :19:31.it if Edinburgh can turn this one around that an even bigger shock.
:19:32. > :19:37.They have lost it because that was cleverly defended by Ulster.
:19:38. > :19:42.Spot-on, Ross Ford just a bit tired, went in quite high, held up high.
:19:43. > :19:48.They are all talking to the referee, so they are, here is Ross Ford, is
:19:49. > :19:53.it Henry? Henry holds him up, two or three players coming to hold him up.
:19:54. > :19:59.Edinburgh have had a lot of ball. Another change, regular today's
:20:00. > :20:04.going off. -- Ricky Lutton. The Ulster number three. Might just have
:20:05. > :20:08.been a test, to see how long he would last. He was making his first
:20:09. > :20:10.appearance of the season, so there might have been a doubt or two
:20:11. > :20:27.there. His replacement is Herbst. REFEREE: Standing over the rug,
:20:28. > :20:37.which he is entitled to do. In my opinion the ball is not... Yes. I
:20:38. > :20:42.love these discussions, Ross Ford having.
:20:43. > :20:50.REFEREE: Discuss this issue, thank you. We are doing, no, no. Another
:20:51. > :20:53.Ulster injury. Some of the big players have been injured, Henderson
:20:54. > :20:58.they must really miss him, they will miss Roger Wilson from before the
:20:59. > :21:01.game started. And the psychology of playing into the wind is interesting
:21:02. > :21:04.because you know you have to work hard to get up the other end.
:21:05. > :21:09.Everything is against you. You can't kick, you have to carry the ball, so
:21:10. > :21:14.Ulster, they will be looking up at that scoreboard going 14 - zero. The
:21:15. > :21:18.fans are kind of quiet. They know Ulster have to get the ball
:21:19. > :21:22.immediately at the start of the second half. Edinburgh are up there
:21:23. > :21:28.that first kick you pointed out, Pienaar tried it, just stops. He
:21:29. > :21:33.won't do it again. Stops, that kind of kick, you can't do it tonight.
:21:34. > :21:39.The young leaders in the stands have the copies we never got. I'm just
:21:40. > :21:44.saying. -- the young ladies in the stands got copies, which we never
:21:45. > :21:51.got. I'm just saying. Here we go again. The captain, Rob Herring.
:21:52. > :21:55.Edinburgh can't lose sight of the fact this is a game they can win. 14
:21:56. > :22:01.points down, wind behind you, this is a game Edinburgh can win. This is
:22:02. > :22:11.a big scrum because they are underneath the posts there. Just
:22:12. > :22:22.about 20 metres also out. Pienaar delivers. Squint as squint can be,
:22:23. > :22:28.but he's got it again. Trying to run it out, this time.
:22:29. > :22:34.Let's see how Ulster deal with the wind. There is really only one
:22:35. > :22:39.answer and that's to keep it in hand as much as possible. Look at the
:22:40. > :22:43.length of that pass from Pienaar. Disrupting forwards in front of that
:22:44. > :22:46.path. Sorry to butt in but it's a really interesting pattern. They
:22:47. > :22:52.have a group in the four, in the middle, when they go wide they have
:22:53. > :22:56.a back line attacking behind and obstructing forward. See the two
:22:57. > :23:00.forwards? You can't... It's impossible to defend that. The All
:23:01. > :23:04.Blacks do it a lot and I think it's too clever by half. You are
:23:05. > :23:08.obstructing. You can't get to the attack because you have to run
:23:09. > :23:12.through two forwards. Meanwhile the ball has gone somewhere else. It
:23:13. > :23:19.surely has to be something that has to be looked at by the rule makers.
:23:20. > :23:25.It's just such a disadvantage. Here comes Henry and Williams juggles it
:23:26. > :23:30.three or four times, puts it on the ground and gets the float away. What
:23:31. > :23:33.a combination Henry and Williams are together. Absolutely unplayable,
:23:34. > :23:38.when they play like that. McCloskey knocks down one, knocks down two I'm
:23:39. > :23:43.still going, Burleigh tries to bring him down, looking for the off-load.
:23:44. > :23:49.Pienaar, opening the pace again, in midfield now. All of a sudden, he
:23:50. > :23:55.did well there to turn them back but Pienaar hazard. Jackson delivers.
:23:56. > :24:02.Just a little bit behind his three quarters there. Here they come
:24:03. > :24:07.again. No shortage of beef on the hoof. In the white shirts. It's
:24:08. > :24:09.going to be a punishing evening for both sides by the time they are
:24:10. > :24:15.finished. Edinburgh still with something in hand on the bench,
:24:16. > :24:21.whereas Ulster have used their substitutes. Obstruction, yes.
:24:22. > :24:25.Clearly. I don't know how Ian Davies can say accidental with a straight
:24:26. > :24:29.face, but never mind, it was pretty obvious. He is saying he's an old
:24:30. > :24:32.man, is what he's saying. It's part of what they are doing, the big
:24:33. > :24:37.forward is lumbering affront going sorry, rest, it's not me. To be
:24:38. > :24:41.fair, this is a great piece of play. The original line-out was clever.
:24:42. > :24:44.They used the line-out of the restart. Henry on the ball, Williams
:24:45. > :24:53.on the ball, when these guys play well they world-class. But when they
:24:54. > :24:57.cheat, we can all watch it. He is actually to be fair to Ian Davies,
:24:58. > :25:02.he has made the point that there is constant interference was how he put
:25:03. > :25:05.it. Every time Ulster go to a wing from that normal pattern of theirs,
:25:06. > :25:09.which is the four forwards in the middle and two forwards either side,
:25:10. > :25:13.the two forwards either side are obstructing in the back division.
:25:14. > :25:19.There are some running repairs on the electronics on the touch judge
:25:20. > :25:23.just below us. The man with a jewel Case ran all the way across the
:25:24. > :25:29.field to be told he wasn't needed, which must be depressing for him --
:25:30. > :25:32.toolkit. You can see with the players as they grimace into the
:25:33. > :25:36.wind, the force of the wind from left to right, a south-westerly
:25:37. > :25:40.apparently, we were told earlier tonight by someone who claims to
:25:41. > :25:48.know that if we overshoot Glasgow tomorrow, the next stop is Tromso.
:25:49. > :25:54.On this wind! We expect to be flying for ten minutes tomorrow. However,
:25:55. > :26:05.that's a long way away at the moment, because... The scrum is the
:26:06. > :26:09.main battle tonight. It's stuck and it's a penalty to Edinburgh. Now,
:26:10. > :26:11.this is very interesting because this is imminently -- eminently
:26:12. > :26:20.kickable given the conditions in terms of the distance and Burleigh
:26:21. > :26:23.is going to have a go. Well, he's actually coming down the line. I
:26:24. > :26:31.suppose that's the other option is just to take the maximum distance.
:26:32. > :26:39.Now, John, we hear that something that's going to come I suspect, it
:26:40. > :26:43.won't happen immediately, but we think Edinburgh are going to
:26:44. > :26:50.off-load the whole bench. They did it last week, didn't they? They will
:26:51. > :27:00.give them maybe just a little bit of a psychological play. This could be
:27:01. > :27:07.their last chance. It could be. It was 65 or 70 minutes when they
:27:08. > :27:13.subbed the front row. 73. 73. They have stolen it. First throw that has
:27:14. > :27:20.gone for Ross Ford. Pienaar looks both ways. He's going to keep it
:27:21. > :27:28.tight though. Static, which allowed Edinburgh to pile in. A stack of
:27:29. > :27:31.white shirts. If people have just joined us normally that's an
:27:32. > :27:34.excellent move from there, obstruction with a long kick, but
:27:35. > :27:38.there's the wind going left to right they are passing the ball on their
:27:39. > :27:42.own line. This might be the kick. They did it themselves, took the
:27:43. > :27:47.responsibility and he hasn't made 20 metres with that. Normally appear
:27:48. > :27:53.player of Pienaar's class from there would be looking to get it to
:27:54. > :27:58.halfway. Here comes the cavalry. Well,... This is interesting, you
:27:59. > :28:02.take off arguably one of the best front rows in the league if not in
:28:03. > :28:09.Europe and they are blowing a bit, I have to say, Nel, Dickinson, it's
:28:10. > :28:19.been tough out there and three fresh pairs of legs, we have Sutherland,
:28:20. > :28:22.Andress. The bigger picture is those three have played a lot of rugby.
:28:23. > :28:26.Those men coming off have put a shift in for their country and then
:28:27. > :28:29.they have been pretty dominant in the games they've played for
:28:30. > :28:37.Edinburgh. I was surprised when they all started the night. -- tonight.
:28:38. > :28:42.Looking at Dickinson, he's hobbling as he leaves. That's a short pass, a
:28:43. > :28:48.bad move, a short pass to the front of the line which has another five
:28:49. > :28:53.metres. Now this will not move too far until they are ready because if
:28:54. > :29:00.they keep just creeping forward here, pressure, pressure, pressure.
:29:01. > :29:06.Patients and pressure, Du Preez goes through. Kennedy wants to go left.
:29:07. > :29:10.This is last year's Edinburgh game plan, isn't it? Two or three
:29:11. > :29:15.forwards, one pass out. Jack in the box, Watson. That pass from Kennedy
:29:16. > :29:22.almost worked. Kennedy, brilliant backhand flip there. A little kick
:29:23. > :29:29.three Du Preez! Well he's going to claim that for sure. Try, given. Try
:29:30. > :29:34.given to Edinburgh and all of a sudden, game on! That is vision,
:29:35. > :29:40.that is coordinated. You can see how quiet this crowded, little lovely
:29:41. > :29:46.clip from Kennedy. Kennedy looks up, looks up, gives the ball, a little
:29:47. > :29:52.kick, it's a kick pass almost bounce up, and Du Preez is on it
:29:53. > :29:57.fantastic, fantastic. It all stemmed from the magnificent little pass
:29:58. > :30:05.from Kennedy first of all, then that charming kick, beautifully sat up
:30:06. > :30:08.there, the way it came into Du Preez's basket and we are needing
:30:09. > :30:15.some assistance for Cuthbert to hold the ball. So Kennedy is the man of
:30:16. > :30:19.the moment. Arguably the best player in Edinburgh colours so far. He's
:30:20. > :30:24.been busy, he's been effective. Just that inspirational little touch
:30:25. > :30:30.there has rocked Ulster. We will get a view on his handling skills, from
:30:31. > :30:33.the man who knows shortly, because Jack Cuthbert has turned that
:30:34. > :30:39.beautifully round the corner in between the posts, and, well, let's
:30:40. > :30:50.get a view on that try from Andy Nichol.
:30:51. > :30:59.Great finish and a great bit of vision. They can't tell you how
:31:00. > :31:09.difficult it must be in that the wind. A great start to the second
:31:10. > :31:19.half for Edinburgh. Bolster lead -- Ulster lead. A masterstroke in
:31:20. > :31:30.tactics from Solomon. In trouble here. Wonderful skill. It is one of
:31:31. > :31:38.these almost innocent challenges, where he was too high to stop
:31:39. > :31:47.himself. It was a lazy tackle. He did not need to do this. He just
:31:48. > :31:51.comes and racks him up. That is above shoulder height. He can have
:31:52. > :31:58.no argument. He knew as soon as he had done it. To be fair, no harm
:31:59. > :32:05.done, just careless. It has given Ulster the chance to move that
:32:06. > :32:13.would've it further up the field and get the hands on the ball. Leisure
:32:14. > :32:24.stroll into the touch. -- leisure Lee. The Ulster men have been called
:32:25. > :32:29.to stand up. A bit of a rumble. A penalty coming, I think. The
:32:30. > :32:39.referee's arm is extended. There is the obstruction. A long pass. That
:32:40. > :32:47.is risky, but it works. That was magnificent the way that was flipped
:32:48. > :32:54.up in the air. Penalty? No. He had called it. A slight get out of jail
:32:55. > :33:00.card for Edinburgh there. Ulster keep the ball because the Edinburgh
:33:01. > :33:22.player... Is that current birds? Not too happy. He went up for it. -- is
:33:23. > :33:27.that Cuthbert? A word in the ear of Solomon. He does not have a
:33:28. > :33:35.condescending tone. He talks to the players. He is not lecturing them.
:33:36. > :33:47.A link the discussion with Ross Ford. Pienaar. All sorts of bodies
:33:48. > :33:56.flying around there. That left him with very little room to maneuver.
:33:57. > :34:02.Edinburgh now, with this wind at their back, managing to keep Ulster
:34:03. > :34:09.in the free for all zone. They will do no damage there. They need to get
:34:10. > :34:14.their hands on the ball, Edinburgh. Pig and go here. It is going to be
:34:15. > :34:21.this for a wild, I would expect. -- pick and go. I don't think anybody
:34:22. > :34:27.who can kick anything from this kind of range, they would have to be at
:34:28. > :34:43.least 10-20 metres in. That is well taken out on the far right-hand side
:34:44. > :34:48.there. Low and hard. There is the runner in front of a the ball again.
:34:49. > :34:55.So difficult for the defence to tackle. There is millions. -- there
:34:56. > :35:03.is millions. Obstructing again. They have a chance to get through. That
:35:04. > :35:12.was a stunning move by Ulster. They are difficult to stop after they get
:35:13. > :35:24.this kind of momentum. Pienaar. Jackson. They try and go through.
:35:25. > :35:31.Back to the rights. Chris Henry is with him. Edinburgh had it. Watson
:35:32. > :35:40.is doing a lot of damage in there. It has been a great match since he
:35:41. > :35:49.has come on. In front of the post. Pienaar to Jackson. Is that the
:35:50. > :35:52.movement they need? A big cheer from the Ulster crowd. There are bodies
:35:53. > :36:17.underneath, bodies over. They are going to go upstairs, yes
:36:18. > :36:25.or no? Alan Rogan there. What do you think? McCloskey lands short. He is
:36:26. > :36:30.not allowed to crawl. He cannot see from there whether he gets the ball
:36:31. > :36:35.over the line. What is raid about the way Ulster have come back into
:36:36. > :36:41.this, -- what is great, the big names have got them back into this
:36:42. > :36:47.position. He can't crawl. I don't think he is on that line yet. I
:36:48. > :36:52.don't think you can say that is a try from that. There was a good
:36:53. > :37:00.tackle their from Will Helu, who held him back while the others filed
:37:01. > :37:09.in underneath. He has got it under his arm. No. He is not over the
:37:10. > :37:16.line. Anyway, if you cannot crawl, one, two, extra move, I can't see
:37:17. > :37:28.the ball over the line. If the ball touches the line, it is a try. Well,
:37:29. > :37:41.you know... Well,... Is that the ball there? That is his jersey. The
:37:42. > :37:50.referee thinks it is a try. REFEREE: I have decision. The evidence is
:37:51. > :37:58.inconclusive. The referee said he thought it was a try. It was decided
:37:59. > :38:05.it is inconclusive. He was very sure of himself. Fair enough, if you are
:38:06. > :38:10.not certain, you cannot get it. Edinburgh live to fight on, 14-7. A
:38:11. > :38:31.brand-new front row. I think Cuthbert is going. Here
:38:32. > :38:39.comes Blair Kinghorn. It will be very interesting to see him get his
:38:40. > :38:45.long legs going. Jack Cuthbert has gone round the back of the area,
:38:46. > :38:54.making his way round, obviously not recovered from the knock heats up.
:38:55. > :39:06.Tactically, if you or in Ulster's shoes, you would go for the push
:39:07. > :39:21.over try. I would be surprised if they try anything too fancy. Pienaar
:39:22. > :39:27.fires it in. The temptation. And again. Kennedy. Straight through,
:39:28. > :39:35.straight through. Trembled at the cooled to stop. Tuohy and Henry. --
:39:36. > :39:45.Trimble difficult to stop. White shirts, piles of them.
:39:46. > :39:55.Watson there. They will nail anything that comes at them, but how
:39:56. > :40:12.long can they keep this out? Pienaar having a look both ways. Going
:40:13. > :40:18.left. And over. Held up. Held up, clearly held up there. Great
:40:19. > :40:26.defence, good, brave defence, all the big names. Williams, Tuohy, the
:40:27. > :40:33.master himself, Pienaar, just set it up, and that is a brave tackle. You
:40:34. > :40:41.have kind of sacrifice... It is Burleigh. He says, it you have got
:40:42. > :40:54.to get the ball through my body if you want to score. They are not all
:40:55. > :40:59.a fancy Dan! I know! It has been desperate at times. Another change.
:41:00. > :41:12.Fowles coming on for Hannity. Kennedy has had an outstanding
:41:13. > :41:23.match. -- on for Kennedy. He is being rested. It will be another
:41:24. > :41:29.Ulster scrum. I see a huge Ulster man being on the far side waiting to
:41:30. > :41:39.come on. You see the tactical change in the second half. Pick and go,
:41:40. > :41:44.risk free rugby. Alan O'Connor about to come on for his first appearance
:41:45. > :41:51.of the season. They want to give these guys a chance.
:41:52. > :42:07.The arena has begun again. -- the rain. Williams is going to leave it
:42:08. > :42:20.to Pienaar. McCloskey again. That is a neck roll. It is number 14 in the
:42:21. > :42:29.white. Penalty, the other way, though, for a high tackle by
:42:30. > :42:35.Edinburgh. Pienaar. Williams. Here they come. They have got spare men
:42:36. > :42:38.but they are held in the middle. I suspect the referee will take them
:42:39. > :42:51.back but he is giving them another go. Williams this time. What defence
:42:52. > :42:57.from Edinburgh. Fantastic defence. They are lining up at both sides,
:42:58. > :43:02.Ulster. They have more on the left, they go right, maybe their own
:43:03. > :43:10.choice. Here they go again. Jackson sees the gap. Goes way, way past the
:43:11. > :43:21.attacking player, and again, the pressure... REFEREE: a penalty to
:43:22. > :43:35.read. I think he has spotted a neck roll. REFEREE: A neck roll against
:43:36. > :43:45.whites. Good spot. That was a great break by the -- but ambitious. All
:43:46. > :43:53.credits to Edinburgh for standing firm. Times in going through the
:43:54. > :43:59.moves. Pick and go, pick and go, and then somebody gives away a penalty.
:44:00. > :44:19.They should go 30 metres down the pitch. He plays safe. On for the
:44:20. > :44:25.Ulster man is Franco van der merwe. Alan O'Connor is making his first
:44:26. > :44:38.appearance of the season for the Ulster men. A huge physical presence
:44:39. > :44:52.there, the number 19. Very difficult to see... And Brett rattling it --
:44:53. > :44:56.Edinburgh rattling it forward. They can't take this to nothing. Nathan
:44:57. > :45:05.Fowles will move it into the distinct. Watson getting and the way
:45:06. > :45:11.of the referee there. I don't think he saw him. If you are the Ulster
:45:12. > :45:20.coach, you have two players that have given away two really stupid
:45:21. > :45:26.penalties. Now, you could be 50 metres back down the pitch, because
:45:27. > :45:33.two players have just given away 50 metres. Better kick from Burleigh,
:45:34. > :45:40.but he has only been into halfway, actually. Just not been
:45:41. > :45:43.overambitious with it. I was thinking that part of what Edinburgh
:45:44. > :45:50.have done over this last season is grown. They are more dynamic, their
:45:51. > :46:02.play is more varied than it was last year. The lineout way has been
:46:03. > :46:07.perfect -- play has been perfect. That looks suspiciously forward to
:46:08. > :46:14.me from Matt Scott. Edinburgh now on the touch line. Another ten two man
:46:15. > :46:24.is injured on the far side. -- another Ulster man. Held up. They
:46:25. > :46:29.have lost it. Clever again from Ulster stop clever. -- clever again
:46:30. > :46:49.Twice, Ulster were held over the line, and with the big layers that
:46:50. > :46:54.they have, to defend your mind and not allow them to get across, that
:46:55. > :47:01.is outstanding. -- big players. I would like to see them use their
:47:02. > :47:07.boot to ball and get it right down into the Ulster 22 and tell them
:47:08. > :47:10.they are going to have to go the whole length of the field. This is
:47:11. > :47:15.the intelligent play I was referring to at half-time. I would like to see
:47:16. > :47:20.a great get it right down into the Ulster Monday to now. This
:47:21. > :47:34.requirement like to see a number of. -- I would like to see any rate
:47:35. > :47:45.get it right down into the Ulster 22 now. I thought the referee got it
:47:46. > :47:48.wrong in the previous incident. He fought and fought and fought to come
:47:49. > :47:53.back down and I think he got the ball to the ground. That should have
:47:54. > :48:07.been Edinburgh possession. The amount of injuries. Shocking. All
:48:08. > :48:17.sorts of manoeuvring. The pack has disintegrated completely. Cartwheels
:48:18. > :48:21.across the pitch. Still, 14-7, and we are past the hour mark. A crucial
:48:22. > :48:40.phase of the match now. The league leaders have lost. The
:48:41. > :48:47.referee is injured. Watch this, the referee gets injured. Deliver it.
:48:48. > :48:54.Stood on his foot! Allegedly. -- deliberates. Allegedly, John, if you
:48:55. > :49:00.don't mind. He didn't do it on purpose. Is quite interesting just
:49:01. > :49:10.to see how Dougie Fife is trying to keep himself warm. It is a shocking
:49:11. > :49:24.night to be a winger. He is absolutely perished down there. The
:49:25. > :49:30.mascot is actually doing press ups! They are allowed to carry on. That
:49:31. > :49:33.was judged to go back. Spinning across the desk, and our pens and
:49:34. > :49:54.papers. Oh! The pass was forward. The pass
:49:55. > :50:03.was forward. That is the decision. They are kicking. Frustration and
:50:04. > :50:09.anger. Let's look at them again. That looked very close to me. The
:50:10. > :50:16.optical illusion is the pastor is actually running backwards, so it
:50:17. > :50:23.looks like the ball went forward. You have to just trust the decision
:50:24. > :50:30.of the referee. Kyle McCall is off and we now have Andrew Warwick on, I
:50:31. > :50:35.think. Yes. That is the whole of the Irish bench gone. The gold to keep
:50:36. > :50:41.track with so many injuries and people coming on and off tonight. I
:50:42. > :50:50.think that is the lot. -- difficult to keep track. They have had so many
:50:51. > :50:58.injuries. At this stage in the game, if you were in an Edinburgh shirt,
:50:59. > :51:09.you would fancy getting back here. There is a 7 point differential at
:51:10. > :51:18.this stage. At no real point in this second-half have Edinburgh really
:51:19. > :51:24.put together a concerted attack in the danger zone. This has been
:51:25. > :51:27.Ulster pressing to the left, pick and go, and Edinburgh not kicking
:51:28. > :51:44.convincingly. Williams is there. Number eight
:51:45. > :51:51.tonight. The Irishman slicking himself to the left, and put it out.
:51:52. > :52:00.-- flicking himself to the left, and flicked it out. They may have lost
:52:01. > :52:09.it. That was another neck roll! Tackling. FairPlay to the referee.
:52:10. > :52:16.He spotted Ross there. He took out Dean. Quite clear, they have no
:52:17. > :52:27.reason to complain. Let's just watch this. He is just carrying on. It was
:52:28. > :52:29.Dean. Cleverley howled. Let's see what Kinghorn makes of the kick. --
:52:30. > :52:40.Cleverley howled. I would love to see him have a go,
:52:41. > :52:46.stretch his legs and see what he is made of, because this might just be
:52:47. > :52:52.the opportunity for him to make a mark. It is a school of thought
:52:53. > :53:03.suggesting that he might be better deployed further forward as he gains
:53:04. > :53:10.experience. Way on the far side we have Will Helu reminding everyone he
:53:11. > :53:25.is on the field. They have retrieved the situation, Edinburgh. A chance
:53:26. > :53:38.to move it forward. Du Preez, the tried scorer. -- the try scorer.
:53:39. > :53:47.Here is Kinghorn. Let's see what he can do. He has a raised his head to
:53:48. > :53:58.see where he is, waited for support. Sean Kennedy or Matt Scott. Taken by
:53:59. > :54:03.number 11. Scholes have had an interesting evening to tween
:54:04. > :54:09.injuries and everything else. That has related space here for Ulster.
:54:10. > :54:19.They are on that charge. That is a great tackle by Enron on the far
:54:20. > :54:24.side. They are no -- by Enron. Another good -- another good tackle
:54:25. > :54:43.by Enron. Take their time. Pienaar. The wind
:54:44. > :55:01.took that pass completely, just moved the past in the air. Staying
:55:02. > :55:09.as close as they can. Spinning that one in the air again. Spot on. The
:55:10. > :55:17.wind is up. We knew the wind would be and it would get worse and it
:55:18. > :55:26.has. The Volga is flying by. Watch Pienaar. -- the ball goes flying
:55:27. > :55:29.by. Jackson couldn't be spotted. Edinburgh ate to get something in
:55:30. > :55:35.this game now. They have spent enough time defending. -- need to
:55:36. > :55:41.get. They have been brave stop there scrum has been good. -- they have
:55:42. > :55:48.been brave. There scrum has been good. 13 minutes left. Get down the
:55:49. > :55:54.other end of the pitch, get some pressure. At the moment, Ulster will
:55:55. > :56:06.be thinking, all of our top players are injured. It is a second string
:56:07. > :56:11.Ulster team. Some support there. Chris Dean's night is done. He has
:56:12. > :56:20.had a solid evening and have attributed well. Mike Allen, his old
:56:21. > :56:32.club here. The closing stages. Still more than enough time for either
:56:33. > :56:41.side to take this game. The ruthlessness... What a combination.
:56:42. > :56:58.You wouldn't want to be meeting that lot. No. They had bounds -- of the
:56:59. > :57:03.headbands... Physically very alike, distractive elements, but explosive
:57:04. > :57:12.players on the loose. The wind is whipping around of these players.
:57:13. > :57:28.The post is swinging in the breeze. It is not a breeze. It has a been a
:57:29. > :57:35.great Dane, a lot of good stuff. Staff -- a great game. After
:57:36. > :57:47.donating stuff. -- fascinating stuff. Pienaar is giving Fowles a
:57:48. > :57:56.hard time. Now we have the kick over the top, and that is a good one. How
:57:57. > :58:03.far will it go? It goes over the line. Careful not to touch it. A
:58:04. > :58:09.treacherous role again. Tricky 22 Tropic. -- drop. This could come
:58:10. > :58:44.back to bite you. As he watched Ambra moving, -- as we
:58:45. > :58:55.watch Edinburgh, some news coming up in a few seconds. Du Preez.
:58:56. > :59:05.Juggled. Look at how he delivered that, that is beautiful. I think
:59:06. > :59:16.that is Chris Henry. Will he put it over the top? No. The Edinburgh
:59:17. > :59:21.breakdown technique is unique. They have spelled it. That has brought it
:59:22. > :59:32.all to nothing. -- spilt it. Kinghorn. Just not made that ground.
:59:33. > :59:40.Let me bring you the programme information. Viewers expecting to
:59:41. > :59:47.see would I lie to you, the Rome has been postponed, and Ireland's parish
:59:48. > :59:55.will becoming on at ten o'clock, and would I lie to you has been
:59:56. > :00:04.postponed for this evening. -- island parish. Cochran just dropped
:00:05. > :00:10.it on that past. He could not hold it. Ulster attack. A little chip
:00:11. > :00:18.over the top from Pienaar. I think he could have just punted it, long
:00:19. > :00:27.and high, Kinghorn. Ulster now have the ball in attack. Let's go back to
:00:28. > :00:33.Andy. Ten minutes to try to find a way to get a draw. This has been a
:00:34. > :00:37.gutsy performance. We just need to see a bit of that inspiration.
:00:38. > :00:46.Cannot afford to make silly mistakes like that. Can Edinburgh get
:00:47. > :00:51.something out of this game? Not the tiniest of ball for Ulster. That is
:00:52. > :00:56.a good point that Andy makes, there is a bonus point but that is by the
:00:57. > :01:03.by at the moment, because there is still a chance to take it back here.
:01:04. > :01:15.McCloskey has had a great game and this is a great ride and. -- a great
:01:16. > :01:21.run. Early has done his defensive chores tonight, more than his fair
:01:22. > :01:24.share. We don't often see him in that light. Always a game changer.
:01:25. > :01:36.Here he comes again. He was McCloskey, danger every time
:01:37. > :01:40.he gets it and this time the winger Scholes is thrown on his back.
:01:41. > :01:46.Pienaar plays again, McCloskey is on his knees now. No wonder, he has got
:01:47. > :01:51.through a power of work. Pienaar, through the middle to Williams. One
:01:52. > :02:00.final hurrah from Williams. Here is Pienaar, he's opened the gap, he's
:02:01. > :02:06.opened the gap, Pienaar! Through for a try. They are going to the TMO.
:02:07. > :02:11.Ian Davies has gone to the TMO. Now, let's see what that's all about,
:02:12. > :02:18.John. Let's listen. REFEREE: See if there was any
:02:19. > :02:22.holding off the ball, preventing tacklers getting to the break,
:02:23. > :02:27.please. It's the last rock. This is what they are looking at. Henry
:02:28. > :02:36.obstructed. It's a moot point as to whether it made the tackle. Yes, he
:02:37. > :02:40.was. Burleigh being held by Chris Henry and Burleigh not happy, this
:02:41. > :02:44.could be pulled back but again, a stupid penalty. Watch this. The ball
:02:45. > :02:54.goes in. REFEREE: Have we got a white shot?
:02:55. > :02:58.It's the next wrap. Burleigh comes in from the right, Henry doesn't let
:02:59. > :03:03.him out. You could argue that he would have gone for Pienaar.
:03:04. > :03:10.Burleigh would have gone for Pienaar the man would have stepped out.
:03:11. > :03:15.REFEREE: Had he not been taken... He would have been out defending and
:03:16. > :03:24.tackling Pienaar and that defender, that's not a try. No other angles.
:03:25. > :03:27.We are going to look at that wider angle, it's the implications of the
:03:28. > :03:32.tackle rather than the actual tackle. The tackle is a foul anyway
:03:33. > :03:35.but they are looking at implications.
:03:36. > :03:40.REFEREE: Where the player was originally stood before he was taken
:03:41. > :03:48.by white police. Is becoming very complicated. The ball goes in, talk
:03:49. > :03:54.us through it. As Henry holds... He would have been in that gap, he
:03:55. > :04:00.would have been in that gap. REFEREE: I believe the actions of
:04:01. > :04:03.seven is prevented the man stepping inside therefore creating space on
:04:04. > :04:12.the outside, therefore I'm going to go for a penalty against seven. No
:04:13. > :04:17.try. Off the ball. Well, Chris Henry, the number seven, has gone
:04:18. > :04:23.from hero to zero, because he was the first Ulster try scorer. He has
:04:24. > :04:27.given away that try by tackling off the ball and preventing Burleigh
:04:28. > :04:32.from getting to the action. Major call by the referee. Yes, it's the
:04:33. > :04:38.right call as well despite the fact the crowd might be booing. That is
:04:39. > :04:43.the right call. Well, what are the obligations in terms of seeing the
:04:44. > :04:47.game out? There are still, John, remarkably, eight minutes to go.
:04:48. > :04:54.What a great game. A game of incident, drama, injuries, Pete --
:04:55. > :04:58.key penalties, big calls, TMO decisions, equally balanced scrums
:04:59. > :05:01.and line-outs, two good attacking and defending teams, the whole game
:05:02. > :05:07.is on a knife edge. This is where the crowd comes into play, because
:05:08. > :05:09.they have realised, oh, that is a poor throw. But the knock-on has
:05:10. > :05:14.gone to Edinburgh. That was a shocking throw in terms of its
:05:15. > :05:20.straighteners. Well, I can't use the word, it wasn't straight at all.
:05:21. > :05:27.Here we go, Hardie. Now they are in the oppositional half. Ulster's turn
:05:28. > :05:31.to defend. The advantage is over and Burleigh takes it. Increasingly
:05:32. > :05:37.influential, Burleigh. Just would have liked to see him stick one over
:05:38. > :05:44.the top, perhaps. Make Ulster turn, make -- Nathan Fowles is in there,
:05:45. > :05:51.burrowing away. Again, Pienaar this time trying to hold the Edinburgh
:05:52. > :05:57.player up but Fowles gets it, they keep it in hand. Edinburgh used the
:05:58. > :06:04.dummy runners. He has courted. Good build-up. Second attempt that there.
:06:05. > :06:10.Fowles again. Determination on all the Edinburgh players' faces,
:06:11. > :06:17.Burleigh again declines the option to hoof it. Good pass, Du Preez,
:06:18. > :06:21.hits it, and again. A great tackle. That's a great tackle by the master
:06:22. > :06:27.himself, Pienaar, the way he read that move and covered his defence.
:06:28. > :06:30.Absolutely outstanding. The crowd are questioning the past of this but
:06:31. > :06:34.look at Du Preez, that is putting your body weight right through. I
:06:35. > :06:40.was perfectly in line with that pass, right in front of me. It was
:06:41. > :06:45.absolutely straight, no worse. Good. What a game of rugby we've seen the
:06:46. > :06:51.light! What whether we have seen the night! Here it comes again. The
:06:52. > :06:56.posts are heaving away to our right here. We can't quite see the top of
:06:57. > :07:04.them, but the distance they have travelled and are moving, Ian Mac --
:07:05. > :07:09.Ian Davies is to be congratulated on his composure as they are giving it
:07:10. > :07:14.what for, trying to lift the crowd. Do you know, no matter the result,
:07:15. > :07:18.Edinburgh are getting better. Edinburgh, who two or three years
:07:19. > :07:23.ago, that wasn't a good team. This is a better team. The discipline
:07:24. > :07:27.Burleigh has played when he is refusing to click, it may be the
:07:28. > :07:32.wrong decision but at least he has a game plan and is sticking with it --
:07:33. > :07:36.refusing to kick. For me, this has been a man of the moment, Stuart
:07:37. > :07:43.McCloskey has had an outstanding game for Ulster, the way he has
:07:44. > :07:47.carried the, broken all the tackles. He is struggling now, we have five
:07:48. > :07:51.minutes left and here's a chance for Ulster. They will break on the
:07:52. > :07:55.left-hand side. The captain is thrown into touch, just to keep his
:07:56. > :08:00.feet in the air. They have a penalty coming, I think. They have indeed,
:08:01. > :08:06.Ian Davis. He has called the penalty and I think it's for not playing the
:08:07. > :08:10.ball on the floor as the decision. Yes, let's look, if it's a penalty
:08:11. > :08:15.at the filly won because he makes a great tackle. He catches the boy,
:08:16. > :08:20.there's a ruck formed and he can't touch the ball. That's a penalty. He
:08:21. > :08:26.needed to roll away and quite happy to put it into touch, Paddy Jackson.
:08:27. > :08:29.He wasn't in any way worried about where it went that, as long as it
:08:30. > :08:33.crossed the line, so he's made merely -- may be ten metres with it.
:08:34. > :08:37.That will do because they have another chance to retain possession.
:08:38. > :08:41.That's what it's all about now. If Edinburgh could retain it they can
:08:42. > :08:45.do something with it. Down the four minutes now, and counting. It's
:08:46. > :08:48.loose over the top, it's gone backwards. It's a brave challenge by
:08:49. > :08:59.both players going down there. Now, can Ulster hold the ball for
:09:00. > :09:05.four minutes? It's all about eight men now, really. Well, nine, because
:09:06. > :09:09.Pienaar will undoubtedly have a hand in how this is resolved. Here he
:09:10. > :09:16.comes, Herring, the captain. Lines them up and goes for glory. Almost
:09:17. > :09:17.held up, but not quite. Pienaar again. He has three huge men
:09:18. > :09:30.waiting. Edinburgh tackling themselves to a
:09:31. > :09:37.standstill here. The rain driving out their backs. Sure they are not
:09:38. > :09:40.feeling any of it -- the rain driving on their backs. Edinburgh
:09:41. > :09:48.have a sniff but it's gone the other way. Still white ball. And up the
:09:49. > :09:54.middle they go. It's that man, Marshall, again. Edinburgh being
:09:55. > :09:59.tested severely here. Pienaar extends it to Paddy Jackson. They
:10:00. > :10:05.have extra men. McCloskey has a go himself. Maybe the wrong decision
:10:06. > :10:11.again. They drive again. Edinburgh need to get their hands on it. They
:10:12. > :10:17.are running out of time. Ulster Beauvais have them. This is where
:10:18. > :10:25.they want to be. -- Ulster know they have them. Scholes on the line,
:10:26. > :10:31.coming his way. Burleigh is on them. Burleigh is trying to get away.
:10:32. > :10:38.Ulster still have it. The wind just snatched that ball away. Pienaar has
:10:39. > :10:43.managed to control may be two passes have gone adrift on him all night in
:10:44. > :10:46.a fantastic display of control and power, vision, everything. The
:10:47. > :10:53.complete performance here they come again, Williams this time bandits
:10:54. > :10:57.over, they knock it backwards. Bizarrely, a game made by the
:10:58. > :11:03.conditions. They can't kick. They have to play rugby. It's been
:11:04. > :11:09.constant rugby, a fantastic game to watch. Here we go again, Ulster on
:11:10. > :11:14.the charge. Maybe they should ban getting in Rugby, because this is
:11:15. > :11:19.what we would see all the time. -- ban kicking in rugby. 15 players
:11:20. > :11:23.giving it loudly, moving the ball, effort, every inch of the way from
:11:24. > :11:28.both teams. Pienaar fumbled a bit but got away with it, Jackson. You
:11:29. > :11:34.know, it could all be resolved in one break, either way. They are just
:11:35. > :11:38.keeping the ball, these guys are trying to not make mistakes. They
:11:39. > :11:40.are running the clock down. It was loose again, but they still have it,
:11:41. > :11:55.Ulster. Here they come. Pienaar, looks over
:11:56. > :12:01.the top, now, they have them, Edinburgh have got them. Helu is
:12:02. > :12:08.there. Edinburgh have won it, they think. Edinburgh have it. Fowles.
:12:09. > :12:16.Now that's a big decision. This is by Nathan Fowles. What on earth...?
:12:17. > :12:19.He had half a minute left, you get the ball after they've been
:12:20. > :12:24.attacking, attacking, attacking, everyone is at the ruck, you've got
:12:25. > :12:31.the ball, play rugby! That's a mistake. Good display, good game,
:12:32. > :12:37.but that's a mistake. 15 seconds or so to go. We've got another injury.
:12:38. > :12:45.Really, really, that was an extraordinary decision. If he had
:12:46. > :12:51.just gone for distance, I could have understood it, but he was so close
:12:52. > :12:55.to the touchline. He maybe did go for distance, maybe he mis-hit it,
:12:56. > :13:00.maybe we're being unjust but it was great turnover, the last minute of
:13:01. > :13:04.the game. Perfect. Ulster hammering away, they lose the ball, you win
:13:05. > :13:11.the ball. You do what you are coached to do which is get the ball
:13:12. > :13:17.down the pitch. Now, can Ulster, it's quite simple, they have to
:13:18. > :13:18.catch it, hold it and who fit. In that order. In just over five
:13:19. > :13:28.seconds! Well, they will make sure they are
:13:29. > :13:33.in the red zone before they throw it in, once the clock starts. But it's
:13:34. > :13:36.just about there. We are watching all the various clocks, we are
:13:37. > :13:41.sitting under the match clock which has eight seconds to go. They will
:13:42. > :13:49.just hold it here, this is what it is all about. Pienaar knows that.
:13:50. > :13:53.Now Pienaar... Look at the clock there before they decided enough is
:13:54. > :13:57.enough. He knew exactly where he was in terms of time, space and effort,
:13:58. > :14:02.because he has brought the match to a conclusion. What a game! It's been
:14:03. > :14:08.a phenomenal performance by both teams and we had a fantastic rush by
:14:09. > :14:12.Ulster in the first area of a penalty try which got them off and
:14:13. > :14:17.running, then a second try, which just about tore the heart out of
:14:18. > :14:22.Edinburgh, but they showed us hope they have an awful lot left and with
:14:23. > :14:26.a magical kick they managed to bring themselves back into the game with
:14:27. > :14:30.the breeze going over and getting the one score that brought them into
:14:31. > :14:35.touch -- Du Preez. It sadly wasn't enough, because Ulster have held on.
:14:36. > :14:42.They have won a quite pulsating match by 14-7.
:14:43. > :14:47.Yes, a pole citing much of rugby, unbelievable conditions here at the
:14:48. > :14:54.Kingspan but thoroughly enjoyable to watch -- pulsating. 14-0 at
:14:55. > :14:58.half-time but didn't put the pressure on Ulster in the second
:14:59. > :15:02.half, really? No, but they got a bonus point, the least they deserve.
:15:03. > :15:06.They put an awful lot of effort in there. They really gutsy
:15:07. > :15:09.performance. We know they are not the most creative side so when they
:15:10. > :15:14.had the possession second half they just couldn't find a way to find the
:15:15. > :15:18.inspiration to get the try. They got one try but couldn't find it again.
:15:19. > :15:19.At the very least they got a bonus point which is a good return.
:15:20. > :15:23.At the very least they got a bonus point which is a good return. You
:15:24. > :15:27.mentioned creativity, there was a lot to make this run? Good interplay
:15:28. > :15:32.there, Burleigh I thought initially a wrong decision but bang on, the
:15:33. > :15:36.right decision. Du Preez goes in and this was early on in the start of
:15:37. > :15:40.the second half. It was the perfect start for the second half for
:15:41. > :15:43.Edinburgh, 14-0 at half-time so right back in and Cuthbert nailed
:15:44. > :15:48.the conversion in this wind condition which was amazing. You
:15:49. > :15:53.thought there are about 35 minutes to try and win the game but they
:15:54. > :15:58.just couldn't quite make it. Towards the end of the match, Ulster did get
:15:59. > :16:02.over the line. The try was disallowed. You agree with that,
:16:03. > :16:08.right? Well, yes, it was a good spot. Ulster were really battering
:16:09. > :16:12.away at the Edinburgh line here. It was a massive hole at the back of
:16:13. > :16:17.the ruck, you wondered at the time if somebody got out of condition and
:16:18. > :16:21.what it was was Chris Henry took Burleigh out here, you can see him
:16:22. > :16:25.holding onto him. I have to say you see that all the time. I think that
:16:26. > :16:29.is quite, quite fortunate for Edinburgh to get away with that.
:16:30. > :16:33.They got a few good decisions went for them the night, comb and
:16:34. > :16:38.probably should have been yellow carded for the try, the start of the
:16:39. > :16:44.penalty try -- Coman. That is what their effort deserved, the bonus
:16:45. > :16:47.point. They put a massive effort in defensively, three times they were
:16:48. > :16:51.held over the line and kept them out and that showed really was old. As
:16:52. > :16:55.you say that, defensively we were talking up there, watching the match
:16:56. > :16:58.and thinking if Edinburgh hold Ulster out here because Ulster were
:16:59. > :17:01.putting the phases together and Edinburgh were camped on the line
:17:02. > :17:05.for such a long time, but defensively brutal and solid. It
:17:06. > :17:09.tells you everything about aside when they are fighting for each
:17:10. > :17:13.other and desperate to keep them out. Five minutes, almost a full
:17:14. > :17:18.five minutes, on their own line, and they have some big players,
:17:19. > :17:21.McCloskey came on, Williams had a big game yet he still knocked them
:17:22. > :17:26.back. It was a really good defensive performance. With the winds, this is
:17:27. > :17:30.a really tough one, I can't stress just how difficult they went this
:17:31. > :17:34.was the plane. You could see the passing was so difficult. They
:17:35. > :17:34.couldn't find enough to get the second
:17:35. > :17:36.passing was so difficult. They couldn't find enough to get the
:17:37. > :17:41.second try that they could maybe get a draw. It is incredible because we
:17:42. > :17:46.are struggling to stand up here, the Windies here. There was another much
:17:47. > :17:51.delight in the Pro12 and here is how it looked. In action tonight, here
:17:52. > :17:52.it comes, Cardiff were involved as well. We will
:17:53. > :17:55.it comes, Cardiff were involved as well. We will see it right now,
:17:56. > :17:59.there you go, Cardiff against Connacht, league leaders, beaten.
:18:00. > :18:05.Glasgow are in action tomorrow against Leinster, that match live on
:18:06. > :18:10.BBC radio Scotland. Click off at 3pm. I will be heading back for that
:18:11. > :18:14.one. Edinburgh, opportunities missed the night even though they have the
:18:15. > :18:15.bonus point for the loss. Maybe they should have got more
:18:16. > :18:18.bonus point for the loss. Maybe they should have got more from this game?
:18:19. > :18:23.After the first 20 minutes when the two tries were in, if you had
:18:24. > :18:26.offered Edinburgh a bonus point they would have taken it because they had
:18:27. > :18:32.a chance to give one away in the first half but they dug in really
:18:33. > :18:36.well. This is Edinburgh, they are a great side, they couldn't find the
:18:37. > :18:41.expiration -- extra inspiration and intelligent play to cope with the
:18:42. > :18:45.wind. That was my criticism, they didn't exert real pressure in the
:18:46. > :18:50.opposition 22. They never got Ulster to work out of their 22, maybe one
:18:51. > :18:53.fund with a wind like this that is what they should have done. Let's
:18:54. > :18:54.talk about matches coming up for Edinburgh and the next match on TV
:18:55. > :18:57.talk about matches coming up for Edinburgh and the next match on TV
:18:58. > :19:03.will be on BBC Alba, look at that one, Edinburgh against Glasgow,
:19:04. > :19:08.Sunday 27th of November -- December, the first of the 1872 cup matches,
:19:09. > :19:12.the second is in the New Year, Edinburgh are the holders of that
:19:13. > :19:16.trophy. It's fantastic, live on TV, please join us for that if you can.
:19:17. > :19:21.Here the night, Edinburgh had their chances on an absolutely horrendous
:19:22. > :19:29.night. Here in Belfast. They lost the match by 14-7, but they did get
:19:30. > :19:32.that bonus point. From Andy, from me and all the team here tonight in
:19:33. > :19:35.Belfast, thanks for your company. Goodbye for now.
