:00:39. > :00:44., there is no way that Andy Murray can fail to win this. Not with Andy

:00:44. > :00:49.Roddick here. That is phenomenal. You are both wrong, Rafa Nadal is

:00:49. > :00:56.the best player in the world. End of. Murray with the crowd behind

:00:56. > :01:03.him will be unstoppable. He will win it again. OK, so his Rafa Nadal.

:01:03. > :01:09.He is desperate to win again. Big deal, my boy Andy Roddick has won

:01:09. > :01:19.this four times. Count them... Enough of this, who is it going to

:01:19. > :01:20.

:01:20. > :01:26.be? What about James Ward?! Andrew Cassell says one of me is enough!

:01:26. > :01:31.thought three was bad and then there was a 4th on! I argue with

:01:31. > :01:36.myself most mornings. Plenty to argue about because we're having an

:01:37. > :01:40.argument with the weather. The covers are on the court so there

:01:40. > :01:44.was no immediate chance of playing right now. We have been told now

:01:44. > :01:49.the weather team that it is going to be unsettled this afternoon and

:01:49. > :01:53.there should be a dry period coming up very shortly. After that, we

:01:53. > :01:58.could get the odd shower so it is going to be another frustrating day.

:01:58. > :02:06.As soon as that tend is deflated, in about 45 minutes the players

:02:06. > :02:09.will be on. Fernando Verdasco, up against Andy Roddick and it was the

:02:09. > :02:15.four-times champion who has never lost in the quarter-finals at these

:02:15. > :02:25.championships. And then Marin Cilic against Andy Murray. That's another

:02:25. > :02:31.tough one. And Rafa Nadal against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. We have six of

:02:31. > :02:35.the top eight players through. And James Ward, or Sam Querrey. You

:02:35. > :02:39.might have been watching that on the Red Button last night. The

:02:39. > :02:43.winner will be 4th on. They will restart the match as soon as play

:02:43. > :02:50.gets under way on Court No. 1. We will be alive to see the completion

:02:50. > :02:55.of that. I will not give the score a way so you will have a choice of

:02:55. > :02:59.either James Ward and Sam Querrey or if you want to watch Fernando

:02:59. > :03:05.Verdasco and Andy Roddick, that is on the Red Button. You will not

:03:05. > :03:09.talk about James Ward. We have plenty to come. I was arguing with

:03:09. > :03:16.myself but they have all looked good but who has impressed the

:03:16. > :03:23.most? I thought Andy Roddick. I liked the way he has played. And

:03:23. > :03:26.for me, he has the freshness. He looks so eager out there. I have

:03:27. > :03:31.been very impressed with his serve but I love his backhand passing

:03:31. > :03:38.shots. He is moving well. Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray have played

:03:38. > :03:43.well but there is fatigue. It would not be human if not. For me, Andy

:03:43. > :03:48.Roddick, fresh as a daisy and he is really up for this. You heard what

:03:48. > :03:54.he said after beating Lopez in the first round, he was hungry and he

:03:54. > :03:59.wanted matches. Fitness against freshness. His mind is fully

:03:59. > :04:05.engaged. He has had two good matches already. Andy Roddick will

:04:05. > :04:09.be delighted with his grass-court season. And against Fernando

:04:09. > :04:14.Verdasco, you would favour him on this court? He is dangerous. He has

:04:14. > :04:22.not had a great year. But he loves the big stage, he is flashy, he

:04:22. > :04:27.loves being out of. I don't think Andy Roddick will win this easily.

:04:27. > :04:32.Rafa Nadal said last night, after that tough one, that he was

:04:32. > :04:36.fatigued. It did not show, he raced through the last few sets? He got

:04:36. > :04:40.into the third set and up to his pace. He had to get the job done

:04:40. > :04:45.and he rattled through the third set. It was like a highlights show.

:04:45. > :04:55.He just let rip. His movement was good. He was digging from a very

:04:55. > :05:02.deep place. Can we used the word knackered? He is just walking on

:05:02. > :05:07.instinct. Double-faulting. He missed that couple of forehands. It

:05:07. > :05:11.was not the player we know. It was a good effort to come here and win

:05:11. > :05:17.matches but I do not know how much you really wants to be here until

:05:17. > :05:21.later on and he is so competitive, he will hang in. Andy Murray, he

:05:21. > :05:26.was good and he said the ankle was feeling as good as it has felt so

:05:26. > :05:32.far. I thought he played superbly. There was a little wobble at the

:05:32. > :05:37.start. Once he got that focus, we saw that all-round player. The

:05:37. > :05:41.genius that he has, I loved it. But I am not sure if his tank is full.

:05:41. > :05:46.It is just below and he is really fighting hard to stay in these

:05:46. > :05:50.matches. Doing well so far. No matter what happens, he has played

:05:50. > :05:56.enough tennis and he hopes he went -- I hope he wins. But he looks

:05:56. > :06:00.like he will need a rest. If it does not happen, he has played

:06:00. > :06:08.enough matches to be a big threat at Wimbledon. He had a good clay-

:06:08. > :06:15.court season. Semi-finals a two big tournaments. The Masters 1000

:06:15. > :06:21.series. He should have beaten Djokovic in Rome. Some wonderful

:06:21. > :06:26.runs at the semi-finals in France. He played a very good match. He had

:06:26. > :06:31.chances. He certainly did and defeat had a set, who knows what

:06:31. > :06:35.might have happened. But it was an excellent run, another Grand Slam

:06:35. > :06:43.semi-final at we know everything about Andy Murray now. What you'll

:06:43. > :06:48.find out in the next three weeks is if he has it appear. We all hope so.

:06:48. > :06:52.What about Marin Cilic? He seems to be coming back? He had that win

:06:52. > :06:58.against and he at the US Open and if you look at those other matches,

:06:58. > :07:06.it is 5 - 1. This is his favourite serve. He is only 22. It feels like

:07:06. > :07:11.he has been out forever. 15 years old, dangerous, big serve, big

:07:11. > :07:20.backhand. It'll be tough. I think so as well. The same thing, we look

:07:20. > :07:26.at these numbers. All the facts. 22 years old. We were writing him off.

:07:26. > :07:34.He has been quite consistent, he is just one match short here or there.

:07:34. > :07:41.He is ready to ignite. 22, you are allowed ups and downs. He will be a

:07:41. > :07:46.factor in three or four years. We're going to go to that match

:07:46. > :07:50.from yesterday, James Ward and Sam Querrey. It will be one of those

:07:50. > :07:54.frustrating days so please send us e-mails. Keep us entertained. And

:07:54. > :07:59.any messages for the players because if we get some rain delays,

:07:59. > :08:04.we will go behind the scenes. We will meet some of the officials,

:08:04. > :08:09.journalists and players. Do send us all of your thoughts. Any issues

:08:09. > :08:14.that you might have. Out here, it is getting drier. People beginning

:08:14. > :08:18.to take their seats. Certainly looking more promising that it was

:08:18. > :08:26.half an hour ago and certainly brighter. It's a wonderful social

:08:26. > :08:31.occasion. They are looking more settled in the bar! These are the

:08:31. > :08:36.members seats and if you don't get in there quick, someone else will.

:08:36. > :08:41.You have to stay there. And this is a terrific order of play. Once the

:08:41. > :08:46.tent has deflated, it's about 45 minutes until the start of life

:08:46. > :08:55.play. We have so much to bring you, and we will start with Britain's No.

:08:55. > :08:58.2, James Ward, he is up against the defending champion, p1 macro.

:08:58. > :09:08.Centre Court last night. The defending champion took the first

:09:08. > :09:25.

:09:25. > :09:35.set and we joined at the start of start to add up. He needs to

:09:35. > :09:43.

:09:43. > :09:48.control himself a little bit. Not turned out to be a great drop-shot.

:09:48. > :09:53.The racquet had just turned in his hand. He could not miss it. James

:09:53. > :10:03.Ward had not anticipated that. It would have to be a very good shot

:10:03. > :10:03.

:10:03. > :11:31.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:11:31. > :11:35.fault. That is particularly bad. And this is the early break that

:11:35. > :11:45.has to be avoided for James Ward. Otherwise, it's a very long way

:11:45. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :14:01.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:14:02. > :14:07.0 - 30. That big first serve came That was a correction from the

:14:07. > :14:17.umpire. We have been told at first serve from Sam Querrey was good,

:14:17. > :14:17.

:14:17. > :15:45.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:15:45. > :15:50.just by 1 mm. You could have happy with that. That is the one

:15:50. > :16:00.that you analyse afterwards. You have to make your opponent played

:16:00. > :16:22.

:16:22. > :16:27.on a shop like that. -- shot like things that make the difference

:16:28. > :16:37.when there is a difference in rankings. Those different spheres

:16:38. > :16:38.

:16:38. > :17:52.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:17:52. > :17:57.of the tennis world. It is all Ward. You can just see that motion.

:17:57. > :18:07.That was a good ball toss. Just in front nicely, arching and reaching

:18:07. > :18:14.

:18:14. > :18:20.up. Good snap on the ball. That is is mixing it all round. Some body

:18:20. > :18:30.serves. He has those bases and Extem. Not giving Sam Querrey the

:18:30. > :18:30.

:18:30. > :19:13.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:19:13. > :19:23.same pattern. The second serve, not from James Ward. And that second

:19:23. > :19:23.

:19:23. > :20:04.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:20:04. > :20:11.shot, not really on to go for the already this week. And at this time

:20:11. > :20:21.of the evening, they were some moisture appearing on the grass. --

:20:21. > :20:56.

:20:57. > :21:06.Sam Querrey. James Ward is creating half chances. But she has to turn

:21:07. > :21:46.

:21:46. > :21:55.into full chances. -- which he has second serve down. Rightly punished

:21:55. > :22:05.by James Ward. Yes, that was 84 mph. There was some cake on the ball.

:22:05. > :22:05.

:22:05. > :22:56.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:22:56. > :23:06.James Ward dealt with that fairly Mannarino, who came through against

:23:06. > :23:06.

:23:06. > :24:58.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:24:58. > :25:02.doing the important thing. Keeping his nose in front. This is after

:25:02. > :25:10.that based on the second serve from James Ward. Sam Querrey looked over

:25:10. > :25:14.to his coaching section and smiled slightly. It looked to me like,

:25:15. > :25:19.what is this fellow doing here, serving aces? He does not know who

:25:19. > :25:29.James Ward really is. He does not expect someone of his ranking to be

:25:29. > :25:53.

:25:53. > :26:01.this cooler air. And the light is fading. It is about 8:30pm now. And

:26:01. > :26:11.the James Ward can take this into the third set... Sam Querrey

:26:11. > :26:11.

:26:11. > :27:30.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:27:30. > :27:40.30. He is being handed some chances, James Ward. Sam Querrey, that was a

:27:40. > :28:10.

:28:10. > :28:20.poor forehand. He really rushed That was... The overhead was not

:28:20. > :28:26.

:28:26. > :28:36.favourite side. What a chance. made a great return of serve.

:28:36. > :28:57.

:28:57. > :29:00.Brought it back into play. Just a took advantage. I like the way that

:29:00. > :29:10.he is certain to block a lot of these first serves and get the ball

:29:10. > :29:21.

:29:21. > :29:26.Ward! There is a roar for the Englishman. And from most of those

:29:26. > :29:34.inside this evening, they see that the defending champion has been

:29:34. > :29:39.broken. Some wonderful returns from James Ward. Just digging that ball

:29:39. > :29:49.back. Sam Querrey, guilty in that game of some really loose forehands.

:29:49. > :30:29.

:30:29. > :30:39.He knows he is in for the match, not at the races at the moment.

:30:39. > :31:17.

:31:17. > :31:24.Well, well. This has turned around. The flag is flying high for the

:31:24. > :31:28.British number two. The feeling has turned around with that one breaks.

:31:28. > :31:34.Something about the energy of the crowd. He will feet off that.

:31:34. > :31:39.a combination. A great effort from James Ward here but for some

:31:40. > :31:43.Querrey, the experienced player, who has been around a lot longer at

:31:43. > :31:48.this level, he looks like he is comfortably comfortable --

:31:48. > :31:51.reasonably comfortable, and then he plays two games way he loses his

:31:51. > :31:56.focus, and when you are playing against somebody ranked lower than

:31:56. > :32:02.you, he is playing a British player with the crowd support, you cannot

:32:02. > :32:12.give them a chance to get into the match. He has lost his

:32:12. > :32:12.

:32:12. > :33:01.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:33:01. > :33:06.concentration, and now he is in a do with his arm, but the first

:33:06. > :33:16.service, the first point was that 120, and this last one has been at

:33:16. > :33:16.

:33:16. > :34:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:34:00. > :34:10.chance for Querrey. Ward has not was good placement. Well, a big

:34:10. > :34:13.

:34:13. > :34:23.What a moment, this is where he shows us if he can handle the

:34:23. > :34:45.

:34:45. > :34:55.pressure, the tension, the noise rally. It is the serve that James

:34:55. > :34:55.

:34:55. > :36:05.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:36:06. > :36:15.Saunders round generally. But he And he is. Might as well. Very

:36:16. > :36:16.

:36:16. > :37:03.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:37:03. > :37:13.this into a third, Querrey is still stretching out there darn. -- that

:37:13. > :37:13.

:37:13. > :39:32.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:39:32. > :39:42.A lovely touch. And more roaring from James Ward, met by the

:39:42. > :39:54.

:39:54. > :40:02.And there it is! I think Querrey might stop here, you know. I think

:40:02. > :40:07.you might be right. He is saying something. Instant call for the

:40:07. > :40:11.trainer. Disappointing signs for Querrey, but positive signs of

:40:11. > :40:15.encouragement for James Ward. SUE BARKER: One set all and looking

:40:15. > :40:18.at the umpire, the decision was made they would not be able to

:40:18. > :40:24.finish the match because of bad light.

:40:24. > :40:28.So it was an inspired performance from James Ward and the defending

:40:28. > :40:33.champion, his form has dipped. He is in trouble with an injury as

:40:33. > :40:38.well. That was last night, and this is today. It is looking a lot

:40:38. > :40:47.brighter, with a bit of sunshine over the club, and the court is

:40:47. > :40:54.ready for play. Centre Court. And on Court Number One. Because of the

:40:54. > :41:00.weather forecast earlier about the showers that Todd due -- that a

:41:00. > :41:04.review, there have been a few changes to the line-up. So, in

:41:04. > :41:09.Centre Court, or it will start with Andy Roddick the four time champion

:41:09. > :41:14.up against Fernando Verdasco, but the second match will be Rafa Nadal

:41:14. > :41:19.against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It means that Court 1, James Ward and

:41:19. > :41:24.Sam Querrey, they will start in a moment, but the Andy Murray match

:41:24. > :41:29.has been moved to Court Number One. His quarter-final against Marin

:41:29. > :41:33.Cilic. There might be some question marks about that, but Rafael Nadal

:41:33. > :41:38.is the world number one and I suppose you have to give him a bit

:41:38. > :41:44.of credit, and he will be on Centre Court. We will move a few cameras

:41:44. > :41:49.here, so whatever you want to watch, you can follow it on the red button

:41:49. > :41:54.or on BBC Two. Certainly at the moment if you want to watch Andy

:41:54. > :41:58.Roddick, that match will start on the red button, because we will now

:41:58. > :42:08.head over to Court Number One. They say the players will be on court in

:42:08. > :42:09.

:42:09. > :42:12.Let's get some comments on the decision. In some ways, Andy Murray,

:42:12. > :42:18.the crowd will not be that happy he has been moved away from Centre

:42:18. > :42:22.Court. It is going to be a test. We had a situation in the French Open

:42:22. > :42:26.when Djokovic was playing del Potro and they were forced on and it

:42:26. > :42:31.didn't look like they were going to get the main court so they were put

:42:31. > :42:35.on another court and the crowd left, they poured out, because that was

:42:35. > :42:41.the match they wanted to see. They broke through the barriers to see

:42:41. > :42:49.the match they wanted. I don't think that will happen here.

:42:49. > :42:54.all those tickets are sold anyway. Exactly. You couldn't do that in

:42:54. > :43:00.the French, but they did anyway. It is simply a decision, and you can

:43:00. > :43:05.agree with it or not. What are you going to do? Are you going to put

:43:05. > :43:10.Roddick and Verdasco over there? Roddick and Verdasco were prepared

:43:10. > :43:13.to play at 12:30pm, so they got here the same as Querrey and Ward

:43:13. > :43:19.did to start their match, and it is unfair to say to them they will

:43:19. > :43:25.play later because they have eaten and they should be first. So the

:43:25. > :43:30.choice is Nadal or Murray. And it is tricky. So is Nadal popular --

:43:30. > :43:36.more popular than Murray? He is the top seed, world number one, but the

:43:36. > :43:40.bottom line is the matches need to be played today. They do. And they

:43:40. > :43:44.are experienced. They are not amateurs. They have seen the

:43:44. > :43:49.weather forecast for the next few days. They have got to get these

:43:49. > :43:53.matches through so they have thought about it and it was a tough

:43:53. > :43:59.decision and I agree with you, the respect for Nadal, number one, have

:43:59. > :44:04.they have got to do that. A few people here might get upset, but...

:44:04. > :44:10.It will all be explained by Chris Kermode. They will explain it to

:44:10. > :44:15.the players. Nobody will cause a fuss over this. Going back to James

:44:15. > :44:20.Ward, you were calling that match last night and you were not so sure

:44:20. > :44:26.they should have come off, they could have played on. I think the

:44:26. > :44:32.referee said he thought there was only 10 minutes' play. But I

:44:32. > :44:37.thought there was at least another half an hour left. It would have

:44:37. > :44:43.helped James because Sam Querrey, his arm was definitely hurting him.

:44:43. > :44:48.He was rolling his serve in at about 118 instead of 130. James had

:44:48. > :44:53.the momentum going. It is a pity he had to stop from his point of view,

:44:53. > :44:58.and Querrey wanted to stop, so the referee had to make that decision.

:44:58. > :45:02.They didn't think they could finish the set in the allotted time. But I

:45:02. > :45:07.think they might have some of it in but the decision was right.

:45:07. > :45:15.players didn't rush last night. Nadal rushed last word. As the

:45:15. > :45:20.moisture settles, it gets slippery. -- Nadal rushed last night. Querrey

:45:20. > :45:24.would have gone straight into see the physio because if it is an

:45:24. > :45:30.elbow or whatever else was hurting him, he needs to serve well. That

:45:31. > :45:38.is his weapon. The pressure is on him. He's playing somebody who is

:45:39. > :45:44.200 something in the world. And the best computer total was the best

:45:44. > :45:48.ever that he had last year. That is at the top of his list and they

:45:48. > :45:55.count all the tournaments and this is the top one. You feel that sort

:45:55. > :46:01.of pressure. James, of course, did well last year at Eastbourne, and

:46:01. > :46:06.he has got a title to defend. There is a last -- there is a lot to

:46:06. > :46:11.defend. What a massive win that would be for him. Back-to-back! We

:46:11. > :46:16.have seen in the past where players have snuck out a good win on grass

:46:16. > :46:21.but what followed it up. Andy Murray mention that that after

:46:21. > :46:26.James Ward's winner, let's hope he can carry it on and not get excited

:46:26. > :46:31.about that result. Well, he has played well, and he is close. This

:46:31. > :46:38.is a shoot-out on grass. The way he's serving, he has got to fancy

:46:39. > :46:44.his chances. Here they come. This is terrific news for everyone to

:46:44. > :46:48.see play under way. They got here earlier. Some fantastic matches. So

:46:48. > :46:52.many of the top seeds through to the quarter-finals and Andy Roddick

:46:52. > :46:57.is a very popular player here as well and this is going to be a very

:46:57. > :47:01.fascinating match against Fernando Verdasco. Let's talk about Verdasco.

:47:02. > :47:06.He is very dangerous on all surfaces. He is a shot maker. In

:47:06. > :47:13.the past, there were questions about the physical side because he

:47:13. > :47:19.tended to get tired and mentally he wasn't great. But with Agassi, he

:47:19. > :47:25.got better. He went down to Las Vegas, and he trained with a legend,

:47:25. > :47:29.and he committed himself to changing his, sort of, being around

:47:29. > :47:35.the court. And whether he really wanted to make the break through to

:47:35. > :47:39.the top echelons of the game. And he has done. He was in the semi-

:47:39. > :47:43.finals of a Grand Slam. He has not had a great year this year, but he

:47:43. > :47:48.is bubbling on the surface, and if he gets a run going, he is another

:47:48. > :47:52.one of these players you do not want in your draw. And he is

:47:52. > :47:57.playing well. He has been in a couple of finals this year as well,

:47:57. > :48:01.Verdasco. Roddick has got the long- sleeved vest on. A very cold

:48:01. > :48:06.conditions again. Apart from keeping warm, you want to keep your

:48:06. > :48:11.body fresh, injury-free, and these cold conditions could hurt. I have

:48:11. > :48:15.to say, it was cold until the sun came out and there is a real warmth

:48:15. > :48:23.in that summer, so he might want to pop that off because he is not a

:48:23. > :48:28.man that does not sweat! Some of the crowd, some of them still have

:48:28. > :48:34.got jackets on, so, I don't know, maybe a little bit of cloud cover

:48:34. > :48:44.on its way. A difficult day to dress for. It is. It is fine but if

:48:44. > :48:44.

:48:44. > :48:49.you are sitting in the studio. What is he doing? He heard you, and drew.

:48:49. > :48:54.Verdasco, he likes to take his stuff off as well. He posed for the

:48:54. > :48:59.male cancer awareness thing in 2008. He was not only topless, he was

:48:59. > :49:06.entirely without clothes. That made him popular in lots of different

:49:06. > :49:10.circles! Hopefully, he won't have to put that vest back on, because

:49:10. > :49:14.with a little bit of sun, it is great to see and I am hearing the

:49:15. > :49:19.players on Court Number One, they have been called, so they will be

:49:20. > :49:24.leaving the locker room shortly. We will get to that resumption of the

:49:24. > :49:29.Sam Querrey and James Ward match. For the moment, we will stay with

:49:29. > :49:32.this one. Roddick has an incredible record here. This is his 8th

:49:32. > :49:38.quarter-final. And he has never lost at the quarter-final stage

:49:38. > :49:42.here. Three semi-finals. And this one, it could be the most crucial

:49:42. > :49:48.Queen's Club he has ever had, simply because his year has not

:49:48. > :49:53.been good. He had a terribly tough draw, and he has played very well.

:49:53. > :49:57.I love to see that. He plays so well on this surface and you want

:49:57. > :50:01.him to have a good Wimbledon, and if he lost the first round here, he

:50:01. > :50:06.would have struggled at Wimbledon. Whatever happens here, he has

:50:06. > :50:12.enough matches under his belt to be a threat. He is very happy to talk

:50:12. > :50:16.positively about winning another Grand Slam title. As John is saying,

:50:16. > :50:21.this preparation at Queen's is very important for him. After winning

:50:21. > :50:25.the US Open in 2003, he was expected by the Americans to go

:50:25. > :50:31.ahead and win lots more Grand Slams. He was world number one at the time

:50:31. > :50:38.but then Federer arrived. And that is tough. Then at Rafa Nadal.

:50:38. > :50:42.now Djokovic and Murray. Roddick is the opponent for Verdasco. This guy

:50:42. > :50:48.finished number nine in the world. That is quality and testament to

:50:48. > :50:52.the field that Chris Kermode has put together. People like Verdasco,

:50:52. > :50:58.he can live and the draw up. He has side issues with the ball toss when

:50:58. > :51:03.the issue gets tight in a match. Just watch out for that. Every

:51:03. > :51:07.player gets nerves and stuff like that. A couple of very good

:51:07. > :51:12.victories. Nicolas Mahut, we saw him for hours at Wimbledon last

:51:13. > :51:18.year, but a very accomplished grass player but he blew him away.

:51:18. > :51:23.Nalbandian, not the player he once was, but a very comfortable victory.

:51:23. > :51:29.Yes, a finalist at victory. So, Verdasco coming into this 15-4 as

:51:29. > :51:33.well. This could be a fabulous match. We have seen some fabulous

:51:33. > :51:38.tennis already and some of the standard, some of these points have

:51:38. > :51:42.been fabulous. I was just going to say that Roddick had a 30 shot

:51:42. > :51:51.rallies the other day. On a grass court! The nature of the game has

:51:51. > :51:57.changed so much. This kind of surface might favour of Verdasco

:51:57. > :52:02.because the forehand, it is an absolute rocker. We have had an e-

:52:02. > :52:07.mail in. If the balls were quicker, would we see more serve-volleying

:52:07. > :52:13.coming back into the game or has that style gone for ever? If the

:52:13. > :52:17.faster courts came in all the Grand Slams, the answer is that 15 years

:52:17. > :52:21.down the road, yes we would but if it change today at Wimbledon, than

:52:21. > :52:26.no because the other Grand Slams are still medium pace and the

:52:26. > :52:31.French is slightly slower. If they change them all round, absolutely.

:52:31. > :52:36.The whole style of play would change. But then everyone would

:52:36. > :52:41.complain about how everybody is serving aces! That happened with

:52:41. > :52:47.Sampras. He never lost his serve. Everybody said, slow the balls down,

:52:47. > :52:55.slow the court down, and that was boring. And that cost Henman a

:52:55. > :53:00.Championship! I suppose would it favour Roddick if they quickened it

:53:00. > :53:08.up? It would probably favour Federer, I guess, as well. Federer

:53:08. > :53:15.has got so much it doesn't matter. With Roddick, his big strength was

:53:15. > :53:20.he used to bully players, not just first strike on the forehand. Now,

:53:20. > :53:29.a lot of players dig that serve back, and get him in the rallies.

:53:29. > :53:33.He is not used to that. Roddick is best with five and under shots.

:53:33. > :53:38.That is where he wanted to be so the quicker the grass courts, that

:53:38. > :53:43.would be better for Andy Roddick. This weather is perfect for him as

:53:43. > :53:51.well because he came into this with a long-term shoulder injury. This

:53:51. > :53:56.isn't ideal to come in with the cold, so he will be happy this has

:53:56. > :54:01.dried out. It is now a lovely summer's day and an hour ago, it

:54:01. > :54:04.was horrendous. Changeable conditions. Seven matches for a

:54:04. > :54:09.Grand Slam over two weeks, you have to deal with a lot and we have been

:54:09. > :54:14.blessed with the weather in the UK tennis season. How long have we

:54:14. > :54:20.got? You are the sage of weather, Sue, how long have we got? I would

:54:20. > :54:25.probably say an hour and a half. No idea! When you think about Roddick,

:54:25. > :54:29.and everybody talks about the 2008 final about Rafter and Roger, but

:54:29. > :54:37.his final, the final that he played, maybe not the class of tennis but

:54:37. > :54:42.the drama was just as intense. is one of those things. He is a

:54:42. > :54:45.great student of the game. In his eyes, he will win a Wimbledon title

:54:45. > :54:52.and if he doesn't, he will always think of that backhand volley he

:54:52. > :54:56.missed that would have won him the match. That was the key shot. He

:54:56. > :55:01.has won a US Open to be number one in the world, so he doesn't have

:55:01. > :55:06.much to cry about, but that was the one that he should have got.

:55:06. > :55:14.saved a match point in the semi- final against Nalbandian. So you

:55:14. > :55:18.give-and-take. He was always so gracious in defeat, though. Walking

:55:18. > :55:21.on to Centre Court to do this interviews, interviewing the loser

:55:21. > :55:25.is a horrible thing to do because I have been in that position and the

:55:25. > :55:28.last thing you want to do is give an interview but he was always so

:55:28. > :55:33.gracious in defeat and congratulating his opponent.

:55:33. > :55:38.have been very lucky with men's tennis. We have got very good

:55:38. > :55:43.examples with Federer and Nadal. Andy Roddick is another one. He

:55:43. > :55:46.gets the responsibility of being a great tennis player. He has been

:55:46. > :55:52.fabulous with the media and fans. He tries hard all the time and he

:55:52. > :55:56.is a great advert for the game. For me, he was just one or two Grand

:55:56. > :56:00.Slams short of being a great crossover star. He is a big name

:56:00. > :56:04.but to be the great start that I think he has the personality when

:56:04. > :56:10.he could have gone to another level, he needs to win another couple

:56:10. > :56:14.Grand Slams. There is still time. Plate is underweight at Queen's

:56:14. > :56:18.Club at the AEGON Championships, but the order of play has changed

:56:18. > :56:24.from this morning because we will be keeping an eye on Court Number

:56:24. > :56:32.One. The resumption of play between James Ward and Sam Querrey. One set

:56:32. > :56:35.all, unfinished last night, so that is certainly no surprise they are

:56:35. > :56:41.on Court Number One. The second match on Court Number One will be

:56:41. > :56:45.Andy Murray's match. He is taking on Marin Cilic from Croatia. That

:56:45. > :56:50.will be the second match on Court Number One. So, we are going to

:56:50. > :56:55.keep you up-to-date obviously with everything that is happening either

:56:55. > :56:59.on the red button or BBC Two. The players still have six minutes

:56:59. > :57:04.warm-up, and the Coin toss, so let's return to Centre Court. For

:57:04. > :57:14.the next few minutes, we can join our commentators. Pat Cash and

:57:14. > :57:17.

:57:17. > :57:24.champion, Roddick. We are simply delighted to have some tennis. We

:57:24. > :57:30.will keep an eye on the weather but at the moment the sunshine is

:57:30. > :57:37.coming down. Andy Roddick has lost one layer, and he is about ready to

:57:37. > :57:44.go. I have Pat Cash alongside me. Andy Roddick seems to have shaken

:57:44. > :57:48.off his last in his game. He looks in fine fettle. He is. I have been

:57:48. > :57:56.impressed the way he has played the last couple of matches. He has got

:57:56. > :58:06.better all the time. You know, he is vastly experienced on grass. He

:58:06. > :58:06.

:58:06. > :58:11.has an won plenty of matches. It is the serve and the forehand, he is a

:58:12. > :58:21.danger. The thing you want to look out for his the forehand. -- the

:58:22. > :58:24.

:58:24. > :58:34.backhand. It should be an interesting match. Verdasco, a

:58:34. > :59:05.

:59:05. > :59:15.vivid Spanish splash of orange to to the backhand and try to get

:59:15. > :59:15.

:59:15. > :00:06.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:00:06. > :00:12.call. The first challenge of the match. He was quite quick with it.

:00:12. > :00:22.It might have caught a little bit of the line. A very, very little

:00:22. > :00:49.

:00:49. > :00:55.Verdasco. Off to that flying start. Nice and comfortable. Beautiful

:00:55. > :01:03.ground strokes. Very good all-round player, Fernando Verdasco. The

:01:03. > :01:13.Grand Slam semi-finalist. He has been able to match that with the

:01:13. > :01:14.

:01:14. > :01:18.best. People like Rafa Nadal. Andy Roddick will have to have a good

:01:18. > :01:28.think about what he can do with that serve once he gets the ball

:01:28. > :01:28.

:01:28. > :02:24.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:02:24. > :02:32.untroubled so far with his serve. Yesterday he had won it registered

:02:32. > :02:42.at 144 mph. It is amazing he can do this serve for this amount of time

:02:42. > :02:42.

:02:42. > :03:38.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:03:38. > :03:48.in his career. Not as quick but it many double faults. One early on.

:03:48. > :04:05.

:04:05. > :04:09.Looking up into the direction of first couple of games going with

:04:09. > :04:15.serve. If you want to continue watching this match live on Centre

:04:15. > :04:18.Court, you can on the Red Button. Here on BBC Two, we will head over

:04:18. > :04:23.to court number one. We had this unprecedented situation where we're

:04:23. > :04:27.going to keep an eye on everything that is happening. There are two

:04:27. > :04:33.British players scheduled over on Court No. 1. James Ward against Sam

:04:33. > :04:40.Querrey. Then Andy Murray will be second. On the Red Button, Pat Cash

:04:40. > :04:49.and Andrew Cotter will be following that. And over commentators for

:04:49. > :04:54.this match over on Court No. 1, they have moved here! Technology at

:04:54. > :05:04.its finest. They will be commentating from the studio. We

:05:04. > :05:09.

:05:09. > :05:16.can go straight over. The warm-up more comfortable than the French

:05:16. > :05:22.Open. We had little box there just over the court. So, we will settle

:05:22. > :05:27.in for this match. James Ward, what an opportunity. Bearing in mind all

:05:27. > :05:33.the points and the money and the glory this year, so far he has

:05:33. > :05:41.played in the qualifiers, he lost in Sydney in the first round. He

:05:42. > :05:46.went to Singapore then he played in Australia, challenges, then Croatia,

:05:46. > :05:51.he played that day was cup-tied very well, then Saadi of will,

:05:51. > :05:58.Colombia, Florida, Georgia, Italy and now here for he has a lot of

:05:58. > :06:03.air miles. And only $19,000. That gives you an idea of how hard you

:06:03. > :06:13.must work. He is sleeping around and ready, against the defending

:06:13. > :06:30.

:06:30. > :06:34.champion, Sam Querrey. Slightly around. -- all the cameras. And

:06:34. > :06:39.later on, Andy Murray will be on this court, with his quarter-final

:06:39. > :06:49.match. This is the third round, they will play their second singles

:06:49. > :06:52.

:06:52. > :07:02.later on and the winner will play round of Nottingham last week.

:07:02. > :07:14.

:07:14. > :07:24.Total prize money this year, served in. This is nowhere near as

:07:24. > :07:41.

:07:41. > :07:47.fast as he can normally Sir. -- putting them away is quite another

:07:47. > :07:54.thing. It's very well saying he has just rolling that in, but if he is

:07:54. > :07:59.getting it in, it still comes down at around 115. And James Ward isn't

:07:59. > :08:04.experienced enough at this level. But that was three quarters at best

:08:04. > :08:14.from Sam Querrey. This is good news for James Ward but he has to do the

:08:14. > :08:14.

:08:14. > :09:14.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:09:14. > :09:24.points. Both of these players get backhand. Two hands. Mid-court, he

:09:24. > :10:02.

:10:02. > :10:07.will actually run around with his match between the defending

:10:07. > :10:11.champion and the British player is the quarter-final against Adrian

:10:11. > :10:21.Mannarino. That will have surprised a lot of people, that he got

:10:21. > :10:26.

:10:26. > :10:36.the right, the big stand and nothing on the left side but

:10:36. > :10:39.

:10:39. > :10:44.straight ahead, Centre Court. That Fernando Verdasco at the moment.

:10:44. > :10:54.You can watch that on the Red Button. Andy Roddick is one break

:10:54. > :11:16.

:11:16. > :11:26.up and about to make it 3 - 1 by the ball as flat as these players

:11:26. > :11:26.

:11:26. > :12:23.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:12:23. > :12:28.do in the modern game. Not much finished last night, John Lloyd

:12:28. > :12:33.thought they had some time left and Sam Querrey did not look like he

:12:33. > :12:37.wanted to play. He isn't exactly fired up particularly, here.

:12:37. > :12:42.Certainly a feeling that he isn't all right. He certainly looked like

:12:42. > :12:48.he hit the serve harder in that game and in the first. Maybe we

:12:48. > :12:52.will see that he was awarded, he had the trainer out a few times but

:12:52. > :12:57.at the top of the show, what we said is important. Perhaps in

:12:57. > :13:00.normal circumstances, he might perhaps not have played. With

:13:00. > :13:05.Wimbledon coming up. He is the defending champion and was to

:13:05. > :13:10.defend his crown. He has a lot of points here. Players get ranked

:13:10. > :13:14.with the 18 best tournaments. And for Sam Querrey, this is the best

:13:15. > :13:19.and that he had last year in terms of points. He also won three other

:13:19. > :13:24.titles, he had a career year. The question is, does he think about

:13:24. > :13:27.that when defending points? James Ward made the quarter final at

:13:27. > :13:34.Eastbourne next week so those points will drop off the computer

:13:34. > :13:38.at the end of next week. And that will negatively affect the ranking.

:13:39. > :13:48.But he has pretty much replaced those points now. He will be

:13:49. > :13:55.

:13:55. > :14:00.greatly relieved. He has a huge is a London cab driver. And they

:14:01. > :14:08.have sacrificed a great deal. He went over to Alicante and Ferrero

:14:08. > :14:14.has an academy there. It was not always easy keeping going for James

:14:14. > :14:24.Ward. But he is a good member of the tour. He isn't one of the elite,

:14:24. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :15:03.rallies going on. Just get the chance and bang! Take it! It is a

:15:03. > :15:04.

:15:04. > :15:09.different pace. It isn't the manner in which there playing. Oh! If the

:15:09. > :15:15.ball goes anywhere near their wingspan, they just take a good old

:15:15. > :15:25.swipe at it. Luckily, James Ward has served so well. He has to keep

:15:25. > :15:37.

:15:37. > :15:42.up for matches later on. Andy Murray will be in action against

:15:42. > :15:46.Marin Cilic after this. Later on, both of these players will play in

:15:46. > :15:56.a quarter-final. The winner of this will play Adrian Mannarino. Andy

:15:56. > :15:56.

:15:56. > :17:17.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:17:17. > :17:22.Roddick and Fernando Verdasco Sam Querrey, he won a total of it.

:17:22. > :17:28.That isn't much for somebody ranked in the top 30. He did not what --

:17:28. > :17:37.win any match until Memphis in February. By then, Australia has

:17:37. > :17:40.taken place. He beat Tipsarevic and Verdasco. And he is coming of the

:17:41. > :17:45.second-round performance at the French Open. No real highlights.

:17:45. > :17:50.Not a particularly good year. Jim Courier was here at the early part

:17:50. > :17:55.to watch him play. As a this minute, he has just below the pecking order

:17:55. > :17:59.for the Davis Cup. You have got Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish.

:18:00. > :18:05.They're all of them at the moment. He would be knocking on the door

:18:05. > :18:10.but I would imagine not perhaps in the real thoughts of Jim Courier at

:18:10. > :18:15.the moment. Unless he does well in the next few weeks. He played

:18:15. > :18:21.against Colombia. That was the Davis Cup for the US. That was on

:20:01. > :20:24.

:20:24. > :20:28.chance to get back to 30 - 30. On with his experience, you would

:20:28. > :20:33.think at this stage of a crucial match, against a very inexperienced

:20:33. > :20:43.player at this level, he would be using his presence and getting a

:20:43. > :21:01.

:21:01. > :21:04.attitude is good. He has a few good shouts. He directs that at his new

:21:04. > :21:13.fitness trainer a lot of times. He is building up brownie points,

:21:13. > :21:23.there. The third-round match. James Ward, British player, against the

:21:23. > :21:26.

:21:26. > :21:30.around by the tournament committee. They decided to put this one over

:21:30. > :21:40.here, even though they played their first two sets last night on Centre

:21:40. > :21:41.

:21:41. > :21:46.Court. That is for Andy Roddick is right now. And if you do get

:21:46. > :21:56.seasick the swinging camera, we apologise. It is just that we have

:21:56. > :22:06.

:22:06. > :22:11.had to do this temporary set up. well done, James Ward. He is

:22:11. > :22:16.getting the returns back into the court. He has not had enough

:22:16. > :22:26.success yet in this game. But maybe he will. He has two accused get

:22:26. > :22:33.

:22:33. > :22:43.that ball back into play. -- he has 30. The final set. Potential

:22:43. > :23:01.

:23:01. > :23:11.quarter-final. The draw has opened the picture. But James Ward got

:23:11. > :23:42.

:23:42. > :23:48.that back into play. And here is a and he could be into the quarter-

:23:48. > :23:52.final. Let us briefly go over to Centre Court. Andy Roddick has to

:23:52. > :23:56.breaks of serve, he has broke in the third game and then the 5th

:23:56. > :23:59.game. He has taken the ball early and is looking superb form and is

:23:59. > :24:08.just two points from taking the opening set against Fernando

:24:08. > :24:13.Verdasco. You can follow this match live on the Red Button. Set point.

:24:13. > :24:23.He has been stepping in, just hitting those returns really early.

:24:23. > :24:28.

:24:28. > :24:32.Putting the pressure on to the times champion. Andy Roddick takes

:24:32. > :24:37.the opening game. That match is live on the Red Button. Let's head

:24:37. > :24:47.back to court number one. To see if James Ward can hold serve after

:24:47. > :25:01.

:25:01. > :25:04.the James Ward plate, it looked like he was a player who was an

:25:04. > :25:10.experienced campaigner, he got the balls back and made his opponent

:25:10. > :25:20.play. But Sam Querrey, who has a pedigree, is playing just like he

:25:20. > :25:27.

:25:27. > :25:33.isn't thinking about it. It is racquet, that isn't the way a

:25:33. > :25:37.professional who is engaged does. His body language is poor. James

:25:37. > :25:47.Ward is racing towards the finish line! I cannot tell you what this

:25:47. > :26:09.

:26:09. > :26:19.Unlucky for some. At the moment, looking like it is unlucky for him.

:26:19. > :26:19.

:26:19. > :27:20.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:27:20. > :27:30.Not having the most fun he has ever serve. Now there is a question for

:27:30. > :27:31.

:27:31. > :27:35.because of the weather and we have had a more startling news, Marin

:27:35. > :27:39.Cilic, who was due to play Andy Murray in the quarter-finals, has

:27:39. > :27:44.pulled out of the tournament because of an injury. So, that

:27:44. > :27:49.match will not be played on Court No. 1. Andy Murray is through to

:27:49. > :27:55.the semi-finals and he will be back on court tomorrow. Thank you very

:27:55. > :28:05.much. Thomaz Bellucci, who lost in three sets to Marin Cilic will be

:28:05. > :28:09.

:28:09. > :28:14.very cross about that! This is the delicious prospect for Andy Murray.

:28:14. > :28:19.This is the biggest game in James Ward's career, right now. And Sam

:28:19. > :28:29.Querrey looks like he isn't into it. But he could swing from the hip.

:28:29. > :28:59.

:28:59. > :29:09.That is what he can do. And James did, that was one heck of a passing

:29:09. > :29:32.

:29:32. > :29:40.shot. All those matches in this London cab driver. He is taking his

:29:40. > :29:50.time. He will not rush. Just reset. Get the target in his mind. Word is

:29:50. > :30:16.

:30:16. > :30:21.line! It is easy from here... Just that little drop shot. He played

:30:21. > :30:31.himself into trouble, here. wasn't the drop shot at all from

:30:31. > :31:01.

:31:01. > :31:11.Sam Querrey. Unfortunately, he just that. That helps the cause! Breeze,

:31:11. > :31:33.

:31:33. > :31:38.take your time, is match point. -- bit cautious on some of those

:31:38. > :31:48.backhands. He got the ball back but perhaps could have done a bit more

:31:48. > :32:27.

:32:27. > :32:37.damage. Just a little bit nervous ball back into play. In the

:32:37. > :32:45.

:32:45. > :32:55.previous few Kate in the set he has finals on the retirement a few

:32:55. > :32:55.

:32:55. > :33:52.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:33:52. > :34:02.quarter final at Queen's Club. It is the biggest result of his life.

:34:02. > :34:02.

:34:02. > :34:07.It is the biggest tournament of his life, and we are pleased for him.

:34:07. > :34:14.The tournament has lost its defending champion, the American

:34:14. > :34:20.Sam Querrey. But a British player through, and well done to him. He

:34:20. > :34:30.will have been thinking about that all night. And Paul Sam Querrey

:34:30. > :34:34.

:34:34. > :34:38.cannot get off they court quickly enough -- poor. He played a very

:34:38. > :34:45.experienced third set there from someone who does not have much

:34:45. > :34:52.experience at this level. Congratulations, what a win. It's

:34:52. > :34:57.his reward for a decent season. He has stayed just outside the top 200.

:34:57. > :35:07.It is possible to beat nine podded later on. He is through to the

:35:07. > :35:09.

:35:09. > :35:15.quarter-finals and John Inverdale You have beaten two players in the

:35:15. > :35:20.world's top 30. It has been unbelievable. The best wins of my

:35:20. > :35:25.career so far. We were talking on Sunday about the rigours of being

:35:25. > :35:30.on the tour playing in front of 10 people and you have a couple of

:35:30. > :35:33.1000 people here cheering for you. This is unbelievable. On Centre

:35:33. > :35:37.last night it was a great atmosphere and it was a shame we

:35:37. > :35:41.had to stop but people have come out again today and I want to thank

:35:41. > :35:49.them. My serve help me out but I felt that I played well right from

:35:49. > :35:54.the back. Quarter-final. Yes, and playing Mannarino later on. I will

:35:54. > :35:59.prepare and get ready for that one. What do you do between now and

:35:59. > :36:04.then? Just go and shower and eat and then there are a couple of

:36:04. > :36:09.matches on Centre and I will be on. The great thing about tennis

:36:09. > :36:14.tournaments is to be involved at the weekend approaches, and you are.

:36:14. > :36:18.It I can take a win today, would be great. You never know, I am looking

:36:18. > :36:28.forward to playing again on Centre and hopefully the weather will hold

:36:28. > :36:29.

:36:29. > :36:34.SUE BARKER: A terrific performance and what a way to finish it off.

:36:34. > :36:40.This is the match point and a reaction. You could tell that he

:36:40. > :36:46.was very tense in that last game but he came through it. What a win

:36:46. > :36:51.that is, through to the quarter- finals. The first time we have had

:36:51. > :36:55.two British players through to the quarter-finals since 2001. And Andy

:36:55. > :37:04.Murray is through to the semi- finals after his opponent, Marin

:37:04. > :37:14.Cilic, pulled out. Let us go back to John Inverdale wife on Court One.

:37:14. > :37:17.

:37:17. > :37:22.We have the coach and the cage fighting partner. We have been

:37:22. > :37:28.trying to work on conditioning and especially on his mind game,

:37:28. > :37:34.especially, through the exercising, making it tough for him, so that he

:37:34. > :37:40.gets stronger in his body and his mind. Do you wrestle each other?

:37:40. > :37:45.Sometimes I do making wrestle. It is part of the mental conditioning.

:37:45. > :37:48.In terms of physique, if this was a boxing competition it would be a

:37:48. > :37:53.catch weight contest because he is very tall and you are much more

:37:53. > :37:59.stocky. What chance has he got? has not got much of it was for real,

:37:59. > :38:05.but it is any for conditioning. Because she could kill him? If I

:38:05. > :38:09.wanted to! I could kill you as well! We will come on to that

:38:09. > :38:13.later! How encourage have you been by what has happened over the last

:38:13. > :38:19.three days. James played very good tennis over the last couple of

:38:19. > :38:26.weeks. I think he has improved mentally and that is one of the

:38:26. > :38:30.most important things. His tennis has been great and I hope he is

:38:30. > :38:36.going to keep on like this. much of all of this is about

:38:36. > :38:40.momentum, how you keep that going? That is up to him. He likes to play

:38:40. > :38:44.here at home in London, third replete he is going to stay like

:38:44. > :38:49.that for the rest of the crass season. When he was serving for the

:38:49. > :38:54.match that had a break point, how were you feeling? You get a little

:38:54. > :38:59.bit of stomach ache, but that is the way it goes. I was pretty sure

:38:59. > :39:05.he was going to make it because lately his serve is much better, so

:39:05. > :39:10.I was not that tight. By last word must go to the man himself. How

:39:10. > :39:17.much do you own both of these guys? I Kent any sake thanks now, we're

:39:17. > :39:23.in the middle of the tournament, so no celebrations so far. A lot of

:39:23. > :39:33.hard work. Hopefully, look for to this afternoon and hopefully the

:39:33. > :39:40.

:39:40. > :39:45.run can continue. Thanks to all of SUE BARKER: It is a tremendous sex

:39:45. > :39:49.story. We have had two amazing stories in the last 10 minutes

:39:49. > :39:59.because James Ward has put out the defending champion and Andy Murray

:39:59. > :40:07.

:40:07. > :40:15.is through to the semi-finals. There is an rather large cloud

:40:15. > :40:22.above us so we may have rain. We will head over to Centre Court to

:40:22. > :40:26.see Andy Roddick. He has taken the first set 6 - 2 and is up a break

:40:26. > :40:32.in the second. He is looking in great form and that is live on the

:40:32. > :40:39.red button and we will be joining it shortly. Let us get further

:40:39. > :40:44.reaction. John Inverdale was very brave to challenge Diego. The he

:40:44. > :40:51.almost bit of a little bit more than he could chew! We have to be

:40:51. > :40:57.positive about everything to do with James Ward from now on. A lot

:40:57. > :41:02.of credit has to go to his coach who he has been with for some time.

:41:02. > :41:05.What approach -- impressed me was how he approach that match. We have

:41:05. > :41:12.had British players getting close and not being able to get across

:41:12. > :41:17.the finish line. Completely. I understand the mentality he was

:41:17. > :41:23.talking about. Fighting is like tennis, is one on one, is making

:41:23. > :41:27.the most of your opponent's weakness, is considering your

:41:27. > :41:31.strength so maximising them. I have always thought that to fighting was

:41:31. > :41:38.the one on one sport and I think it is a real bonus having somebody

:41:38. > :41:44.like that in the camp because it sharpens the mind as well. James is

:41:44. > :41:50.not ranked 900 in the world, he is just outside the top 200. That is a

:41:50. > :41:55.fine tennis player. If anybody is out there is just outside the top

:41:55. > :42:00.200 and what they do go think they are pretty good. He has is wildcard

:42:00. > :42:04.at Wimbledon to look forward to. One other person he should thank

:42:04. > :42:14.his Chris Kermode who gave him a wildcard into the straw in the

:42:14. > :42:16.

:42:16. > :42:21.first place. -- into the draw. you look at who has been through to

:42:21. > :42:25.the quarter-finals, and he has got Mannarino. We all hope it does not

:42:25. > :42:32.rain, but I think it will be better if he does play today because it

:42:32. > :42:37.will not give him too much time to think about what he has just done.

:42:37. > :42:42.Let him get on with it now, focus, and get on and win the quarter-

:42:42. > :42:49.finals. A lot of people saying that Mannarino is a very talented, up

:42:49. > :42:57.and coming player. He is. This time last year he was no way near top

:42:57. > :43:02.100 but he has picked up. He has played his way through the ranks.

:43:02. > :43:11.She is heading in exactly the right direction. He is into all the right

:43:11. > :43:17.tournaments. It is a great test. A left-hander. He says his Polly is

:43:17. > :43:22.his best shot. He is very mobile around the court. He is coming in

:43:22. > :43:26.with confidence but it is a major advantage if they play today. When

:43:26. > :43:32.you have played a set and you have won it, you were on a high, go and

:43:32. > :43:36.play. You do not want to think about it too much and what the

:43:36. > :43:41.prospects are. The other big news is Andy Murray going through. I'm

:43:41. > :43:44.not sure he would be too disappointed. It is not nice to go

:43:45. > :43:51.out on Court One in these conditions. I Pinkie would be very

:43:51. > :43:56.happy with that. He has played enough matches now. Him getting to

:43:56. > :43:59.the French Open semi-finals, that is unknown territory for him. I

:44:00. > :44:06.know he has been in Grand Slam finals, but not with such a short

:44:06. > :44:11.gap coming to another tournament. Nadal has done it before, but he's

:44:11. > :44:15.used to it. Andy Murray has done well to win a couple of round here

:44:15. > :44:25.but to have her day off, I think he will enjoy that. He had the match

:44:25. > :44:35.where he was two sets down and a break and had to win in the 5th. So

:44:35. > :44:43.

:44:43. > :44:49.you're not going to play the 6 1/2 ft tall Croatian! Excellent. I had

:44:49. > :44:53.no idea about Marin Cilic. It is a big shock. I saw him walking around

:44:53. > :44:55.yesterday and he seemed fine and nice and relaxed but that was

:44:55. > :44:59.before his match with Thomas Bellucci so perhaps we heard

:44:59. > :45:04.something. He has been a great supporter of this event and I'm

:45:04. > :45:10.sure he will not pull out unless there was a very good reason.

:45:10. > :45:16.happened because going from clay to grass, everybody is tired. We were

:45:16. > :45:22.just about to it go out to see the Roddick match, but down comes the

:45:22. > :45:26.rain. I did say that cloud was looming edge ahead. It is right

:45:26. > :45:36.over Queen's Club at the moment. The groundsmen will have to be

:45:36. > :45:36.

:45:36. > :45:40.quick to get the neck down. -- at the net. It will not be ideal for

:45:41. > :45:50.Andy Roddick, who was racing through this match. They are not

:45:50. > :45:58.far from completing it. It is an unbelievably quick match. He is

:45:58. > :46:03.asking for another show it. Talking to his people at the side. He has a

:46:03. > :46:09.great team around him who have been there for a while. They are a very

:46:09. > :46:18.experienced bunch in his team. It is an impressive scoreline against

:46:18. > :46:22.Verdasco. That is how well he is playing. Looking at him right now,

:46:23. > :46:32.you would say no one wants to play him at Wimbledon, the way he is

:46:33. > :46:36.

:46:36. > :46:41.playing. He is on top form. I have not seen Roddick this intense for

:46:41. > :46:46.while, there is something about him. He knows that time is not on his

:46:46. > :46:52.side. Not many guys have eight years between winning Grand Slams.

:46:52. > :46:57.That was his last one, the US Open. At the end of what is a glorious

:46:57. > :47:07.career, the least he could up one is one of these Grand Slams and

:47:07. > :47:08.

:47:08. > :47:14.he's aiming to win another. -- could have won. Roddick is not

:47:14. > :47:24.bowled by any standards but he has been around for a number of years

:47:24. > :47:32.

:47:32. > :47:42.now -- not hold. -- old. But he looks back to his best. He looks in

:47:42. > :47:44.

:47:44. > :47:53.great shape. There is the journey down, press that button! It was not

:47:53. > :47:59.working the other day. He is a super guy. I did not used to like

:47:59. > :48:05.umpires! They did not like me either! The rain is coming down

:48:05. > :48:09.here and sadly there is no play on the Centre Court. This is the news

:48:09. > :48:14.that is just in. That was the winning point by James Ward to put

:48:14. > :48:22.him through to the quarter-finals at the Queen's Club, putting out

:48:22. > :48:31.the defending champion, who defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in the

:48:31. > :48:37.last round. He will be over all the newspapers tomorrow. A tremendous

:48:37. > :48:39.story. He has an Argentinian cage fighter who gets him super-fit and

:48:39. > :48:49.I think terror fighting into training a little bit harder than

:48:49. > :49:21.

:49:21. > :49:27.he wants to! So, well done to Jane Back to James Ward. We talk so much

:49:27. > :49:32.about British players. This could inspire a lot more below James Ward.

:49:32. > :49:36.We have talked about how British tennis needs to move up. Perhaps

:49:37. > :49:43.the fact the one of their own has done this will encourage others.

:49:43. > :49:49.think so. Also it shows that it is possible and that there is no magic

:49:49. > :49:54.age way you have got to make it. Ward has been around for quite a

:49:54. > :49:58.while now. I'm sure other British players who of around that age

:49:58. > :50:04.where people have said perhaps your time is past, they will look at

:50:04. > :50:08.this. We cannot go overboard, we have to see what happened in the

:50:08. > :50:16.rest of the year, but I felt the way that he handled that last set,

:50:16. > :50:20.there was a lot of maturity in his game. Querry was the one making

:50:20. > :50:27.errors. He was taking time between points and getting himself back in

:50:27. > :50:31.the mode, not rushing. It is a big step up for him now. It should give

:50:31. > :50:35.the other players some encouragement. He took advantage of

:50:35. > :50:40.the situation because it was obvious that Querry was injured and

:50:40. > :50:47.was not serving at the full pace, but you still have to win the last

:50:47. > :50:53.one. He saw what Querry did in the last game, he stuck around. He

:50:53. > :50:57.almost played his way back in. James concluded that match in the

:50:57. > :51:05.manner you were expecting to be able to do because of some of the

:51:05. > :51:10.places he has been based here. Croatia, Davis Cup, Sarajevo, he

:51:10. > :51:15.has been everywhere and he is used to playing out matches. When you

:51:15. > :51:21.are a lower ranked guy you want conditions. You want the court

:51:21. > :51:25.change, you want an overnight, you want wind and rain, anything to

:51:25. > :51:30.equalise. These conditions are a great equaliser and that is why the

:51:31. > :51:39.British players can ambush guys like these. The bottom line is that

:51:39. > :51:43.in one year James what is probably not going to be a top 100 player. I

:51:43. > :51:47.salute his effort but nothing in particular is going to change. He

:51:47. > :51:52.will remain what he is, which is an excellent professional who is

:51:52. > :51:57.getting a little bit of recognition and some reward. Let us not lose

:51:57. > :52:02.perspective. You talk about the places that they go to. That is the

:52:02. > :52:05.other side of tennis way you see the top 10 or 20 can pick and

:52:05. > :52:11.choose what they go but you have to scrape around and find whatever

:52:11. > :52:16.point you can way you can. What can happen is that you can become a

:52:16. > :52:21.Challenger player and it becomes for some players, quite frankly,

:52:21. > :52:27.comfortable. They are not earning a lot of money but they are having a

:52:27. > :52:31.good life. They are seeing the world, meeting a lot of nice people.

:52:31. > :52:34.You get this group together and it is sort of comfortable. Do want

:52:34. > :52:41.that you want to see of the ones that are trying to break out of

:52:41. > :52:46.that. Everyone says that they are but some of them like that comfort.

:52:46. > :52:49.For Ward this is a chance to get out of that area. I hope that he

:52:49. > :52:55.will start playing qualifying in all the main events and not play

:52:55. > :53:01.the challengers. He does do quite a lot cut that. Yes, but make it all

:53:01. > :53:10.the time. He will get in the qualifiers now and he has to go for

:53:10. > :53:16.the big guns. The rain is getting heavier. People scurrying for cover.

:53:16. > :53:21.There is a strong wind as well said that might blow it away. We are

:53:21. > :53:26.quite high up in this cardboard box! It news that little bit when

:53:26. > :53:30.the wind blows. I remember speaking to Lleyton Hewitt and he said if

:53:30. > :53:40.you do not get out of those challenges her leap you often stuck

:53:40. > :53:49.in there for a long time. -- Burghley, you often stark. You can

:53:49. > :53:54.get stuck and sometimes you have to accept that the sure level. If you

:53:54. > :53:59.are in challengers regularly you will probably between 140 and 250

:53:59. > :54:05.in the world. These guys, if you see them played life, you see how

:54:05. > :54:09.good they are, so it is worthy of respect. But to push on to the next

:54:09. > :54:14.level is a hard thing to do. James is 24, he has to make the most of

:54:14. > :54:17.his time in the sun. We are certainly looking forward to the

:54:17. > :54:27.weather brightening up and I am sure we are all looking forward to

:54:27. > :54:30.this. There is nothing like it, when you look at it. Whether you

:54:30. > :54:37.are there in person, the smell of it, or when you watch it on

:54:37. > :54:45.television. It is the one that everybody knows, even people that

:54:45. > :54:49.don't know tennis No Wimbledon. you're a Wimbledon champion, you

:54:49. > :54:56.are remembered for life. I have always felt there was something

:54:56. > :55:02.special, was a place have wanted to be part of and competing. You speak

:55:02. > :55:08.to the majority of the players and they would say if there was one

:55:08. > :55:18.tournament they would want to win it would be Wimbledon. You will not

:55:18. > :55:25.

:55:25. > :55:35.want to win this a special documentary. -- and Miss. -- mss

:55:35. > :55:37.

:55:37. > :55:47.We had an e-mail asking him what the greatest champions that have

:55:47. > :55:56.never won Wimbledon. You tried to take one of mine! And then Pat Cash

:55:57. > :56:06.came in with a few others. I will go first. Ivan Lendl. Fair enough.

:56:07. > :56:13.

:56:13. > :56:23.I am going to go straight back with that the Lander. Jim Courier. --

:56:23. > :56:38.

:56:38. > :56:48.We did come up with Andy Roddick and Pat Rafter. And Pat Cash came

:56:48. > :56:53.

:56:53. > :57:01.up with Gonzalez. I have to check. And Cramer. In the we need to look

:57:01. > :57:11.in the book. For the women, the main one is Monica Seles. We can

:57:11. > :57:12.

:57:12. > :57:19.think of a few other names but that one would be out there. We made all

:57:19. > :57:27.these lists yesterday and we were having a big debate about it.

:57:27. > :57:35.he looks that up, what is your favourite memory of Wimbledon?

:57:36. > :57:45.gosh! Just one of them. The obvious one is the John McEnroe and Bjorn

:57:45. > :57:50.Borg match. For me, was two players, was in my era, I watch that and

:57:50. > :57:55.could not believe what was happening. You watch it still, and

:57:55. > :58:05.it will never age. It is not as fast as today but the drama of it

:58:05. > :58:11.

:58:11. > :58:21.will never go. Did you get an answer? No, I need a bit longer.

:58:21. > :58:26.But the case for Jim Courier. He was in the Pete Sampras era.

:58:26. > :58:35.moved onto favourite memories of Wimbledon. I think for me the

:58:35. > :58:39.special atmosphere was the final with Rafter on that third Monday.

:58:39. > :58:44.was stuck in a studio at another television channel at a golf

:58:44. > :58:49.tournament. We turned up all the monitors and I was watching it in

:58:50. > :58:54.silence. It was so emotional to watch it. I guess Rafter is coming

:58:54. > :59:01.back 10 years on from that and this year his returning to Wimbledon.

:59:01. > :59:11.Hopefully we will catch up with him. Personal memories of walking on the

:59:11. > :59:13.

:59:13. > :59:19.Wimbledon crass to play the Championships. -- grass. You were

:59:19. > :59:24.not allowed to touch the stuff as a kid and a walking on the court.

:59:24. > :59:30.me, when people ask you about Wimbledon, they say what makes it

:59:30. > :59:36.special? For me, was driving up there the first day, and seeing the

:59:36. > :59:41.queues around the block. It does not happen at any other Grand Slam.

:59:41. > :59:45.Never has done, never will. And when you used to play, just

:59:45. > :59:50.thinking about that, even if you were playing a Mixed Doubles, you

:59:50. > :59:56.thought, some of those people maybe he just to watch me. It was that

:59:56. > :00:01.feeling that this is the ultimate in tennis. I remember getting my

:00:01. > :00:06.competitor's badge and I was thrilled about it. I got scheduled

:00:06. > :00:12.on Centre Court as a teenager again someone who was a great champion.

:00:12. > :00:16.It was my first match on Centre Court! I was terrified. I crawled

:00:16. > :00:24.on to the Centre Court and I thought I have got to curtsy, I

:00:24. > :00:34.could end up in a heap on the floor. I managed to get away with it. I

:00:34. > :00:35.

:00:35. > :00:43.got whipped but came back and won it in three sets. She was on her

:00:43. > :00:49.comeback. But she beat her at Wimbledon, put it there! From then

:00:49. > :00:59.on, I loved it. It does dictate hate you queue that court, if you

:00:59. > :01:02.

:01:02. > :01:06.have a good experience poor not. -- or not. The Court three is in

:01:06. > :01:16.action this year and it used to be caught six, but they have stuck it

:01:16. > :01:16.

:01:16. > :01:22.One my best memories is talking -- is listening to you talking about

:01:22. > :01:29.how you used to hunger -- hang out the ladies' changing room window to

:01:29. > :01:32.watch Bjorn Borg walk past. Yes! Everyone went mad. He was like a

:01:32. > :01:38.rock star. The first rock star of tennis. And I have never seen

:01:38. > :01:43.anything like it. He changed tennis, he is responsible for its change.

:01:43. > :01:47.Remember how he looked? On television, his look, if it wasn't

:01:47. > :01:52.tennis on all sorts of different channels all year round, he came on

:01:52. > :01:57.with his eyes close together, his head band, his hair... He just

:01:57. > :02:01.looked amazing. Everyone would copy the style in the junior tournaments,

:02:01. > :02:06.and they looked foolish because there was only one Bjorn Borg.

:02:06. > :02:10.Absolutely. We will reminisce a little bit more. The big story here,

:02:10. > :02:15.though, James Ward is through to the quarter-finals and Andy Murray

:02:15. > :02:19.is through to the semi-finals. We promised you a look behind the

:02:19. > :02:23.scenes. Let's see where John Inverdale is.

:02:23. > :02:28.We are in the players' area. Everyone is hanging around, waiting

:02:28. > :02:34.for it to stop raining. I can welcome you to this edition of

:02:34. > :02:39.Friday afternoon's Lewis men. We have Mike from the Daily men, Neil

:02:39. > :02:47.from the Mirror, Steve from the sun, and Ivan Ljubicic to represent

:02:47. > :02:51.common sense. We might be talking for hours here. As a fierce critic

:02:51. > :02:55.of the LTA over the years, I give you Andy Murray in the semi-finals,

:02:55. > :03:03.James Ward in the quarter-finals, Heather Watson's ranking going

:03:03. > :03:09.through the roof, 11 -- Oliver Golding didn't disgrace himself, so

:03:09. > :03:14.it is three cheers for the LTA. swallow doesn't make a summer. I

:03:14. > :03:18.don't want to be too negative about the LTA, there are a good people.

:03:18. > :03:22.But I think we have to wait for more than just one tournament

:03:22. > :03:27.before we completely late off them. So, what is it that is still

:03:27. > :03:33.getting your goat about the way tennis in this country is run?

:03:33. > :03:37.suppose a bit of a clue it is the LTA has had pretty much half-a-

:03:37. > :03:42.billion pounds from Wimbledon alone over the last 20 years and we have

:03:42. > :03:49.one men's play in the top 100, now we have two as of this week with

:03:49. > :03:53.Heather. Let's not get this wrong, we are absolutely delighted to see

:03:53. > :03:58.Heather Watson coming through and James Ward has done extremely well.

:03:58. > :04:03.For those of us sitting around here, apart from Ivan Ljubicic, it makes

:04:03. > :04:08.our jobs far more enjoyable to travel around, lucky as we are, to

:04:08. > :04:14.do that, and cover British success rather than a broken record of what

:04:14. > :04:23.has gone wrong. But I do think it there is a way to go. Neil, where

:04:23. > :04:30.do you sit on the LTE a debate? can be selective. This week has

:04:30. > :04:35.been good. But Wimbledon last year when not one English person won a

:04:35. > :04:39.match. Apart from Andy Murray. That is what we are looking at. We have

:04:40. > :04:48.a long way to go and not one British man in the top 200 is not a

:04:48. > :04:53.good stat. Steve? The point that Mike makes, there are some good

:04:53. > :04:57.people's -- people, and they are making some progress. The stats

:04:57. > :05:02.don't say that. They need to wait another five years for some more

:05:02. > :05:10.young people to come through. We want a bit of success and we want

:05:10. > :05:15.to see these British guys doing well. We are on the cusp. Ivan

:05:15. > :05:20.Ljubicic, will I will come to you in a second. You must think, when

:05:20. > :05:24.are these guys gonna move on? But it is so easy to throw stones and

:05:25. > :05:31.it is difficult come up with a solution. If you were doing a three.

:05:31. > :05:38.Make hit list, what would they be? This could turn into a big

:05:38. > :05:42.discussion. To put it in its proper context, people have to remember,

:05:42. > :05:46.tennis, one of its great strengths, it is a truly international game.

:05:46. > :05:51.In Wimbledon, you will see people from 80 different nations playing.

:05:51. > :05:59.It is extremely hard to produce good tennis players. When we have

:05:59. > :06:04.this discussion, in fairness, it is not easy. I mean, I suppose,

:06:04. > :06:08.speaking in broad terms, the penny is slowly dropping. Many of us that

:06:08. > :06:12.believe the way to rebuild the game is from the bottom up rather than

:06:12. > :06:17.what we have seen in recent years, which has from the top down,

:06:17. > :06:22.bringing him, I suppose, if you like and it's to university,

:06:22. > :06:27.bringing in the best professors and lecturers went the students are not

:06:27. > :06:31.of high calibre, so what you need to do is get the talent in from the

:06:31. > :06:37.bottom, then bring in the best because it is no instant fix and

:06:37. > :06:41.anybody who says there is is simply not being fair. So you want to see

:06:41. > :06:44.it built from the bottom up. From your experience of travelling

:06:44. > :06:49.around the world and going to so many different countries, is it

:06:49. > :06:53.your perception that as a basic rule, the more people that play the

:06:53. > :06:59.game, the more likely you are to have people that are successful at

:06:59. > :07:05.the top? The errors no question. The more young kids, the because we

:07:05. > :07:09.have to get a champion. -- that is no question. There are not many

:07:09. > :07:13.federations in the world that have a project that works and bring in

:07:13. > :07:18.top players regularly, which is I guess only the French federation

:07:18. > :07:23.that can be proud. Even Australia is struggling. The US federation is

:07:24. > :07:31.struggling. All the big federations are having the same problems.

:07:31. > :07:35.can you explain, because in this country for a month's the public

:07:35. > :07:45.focuses on tennis and for the rest of the months of the year, it

:07:45. > :07:46.

:07:46. > :07:49.exists if Andy Murray is doing well. But for the next week, at East --

:07:49. > :07:56.Eastbourne and Wimbledon, they will see all these Eastern European

:07:56. > :08:04.players and they will say, how or. Can you explain? There is no

:08:04. > :08:11.project behind it. There is no how. There is a piece of paper. It is

:08:11. > :08:16.very complicated and we are doing well, Croatia, and Serbia, where

:08:16. > :08:22.tennis is phenomenal because of Ivanovic, Jankovic, Djokovic. It

:08:22. > :08:30.just goes in periods. And we are physically strong, which helps, of

:08:30. > :08:34.course. We are a great athletes. It has to be something to do with

:08:34. > :08:41.mentality. I think kids in our countries when they do sports, they

:08:41. > :08:45.go all the way. You just commit yourself 100% and hope for the best.

:08:45. > :08:50.You mentioned Djokovic. Horror you guys lucky to be reporting on and

:08:50. > :08:55.I'll we lucky to be showing and watching the golden period of men's

:08:55. > :09:05.tennis? You can hark back to McEnroe, but do you think Federer,

:09:05. > :09:06.

:09:06. > :09:14.Djokovic, Nadal, are they the best? Of the way Djokovic has come on, he

:09:14. > :09:18.has really come on. He has brought himself up to Federer level. He had

:09:18. > :09:24.a great winning streak. We had the great final four at the French

:09:24. > :09:30.opening. -- French Open. Those four players will make the final four of

:09:31. > :09:35.Wimbledon, I think. Is Andy Murray unlucky he is the 4th best players

:09:35. > :09:40.at this time? There is an element of that. If he had been around 10

:09:40. > :09:46.years ago, when there was a window of opportunity between the demise

:09:46. > :09:51.of Pete Sampras and before Roger Federer, I am absolutely sure that

:09:51. > :10:00.by now Andy Murray would have probably pocketed three, possibly

:10:00. > :10:03.four, Grand Slams, but you cannot choose your era, and it seems

:10:03. > :10:07.Federer is a rejuvenated. I am not convinced he can content for too

:10:08. > :10:14.much longer, but right now, he is in the picture. You have got

:10:14. > :10:22.Djokovic, who will not lose unless he is playing Federer or and Adel.

:10:22. > :10:27.And no doubt is this phenomenon. -- and Nadal. He is unbeatable on clay.

:10:27. > :10:34.And when he is totally fit, he rarely loses when he is in full

:10:34. > :10:39.health. You mentioned Murray might have won a Grand Slam. From a

:10:39. > :10:49.Croatian point of view, when Ivanisevic won, what impact it that

:10:49. > :10:51.

:10:51. > :10:57.have won tennis? I am thinking about the impact on Britain.

:10:57. > :11:03.have a lot of kids playing. Since 2005, we won the Davis Cup, and

:11:03. > :11:08.tennis also them, like, kids started playing tennis, shops had

:11:08. > :11:17.lots of rackets, clothes, so it was a great time. The thing is, it is

:11:17. > :11:23.not like Murray wins, you will have a lot of hundred great players. You

:11:23. > :11:27.have to wait for it. What Goran Ivanisevic did for Croatia in 2001,

:11:27. > :11:33.it is something that will not be forgotten. In these historical

:11:33. > :11:40.moments, you remember where you were and what you're doing. From

:11:40. > :11:45.iTablet point of view. If Murray was to win Wimbledon, we have had

:11:45. > :11:48.endless hype of World Cups, but if he was to win, how do you think the

:11:49. > :11:55.sun, the Mirror would cope with something like that? We would

:11:55. > :12:02.celebrated. Although we are not has begun tennis as the other papers,

:12:02. > :12:08.we champion the British talent -- we are not as big on tennis as. It

:12:08. > :12:15.would be huge, it would be front page, back page... Massive interest.

:12:15. > :12:21.Like you said, we will -- we have been here before with Cricket and

:12:21. > :12:26.Football. It would be a fantastic story. It has been 75 years now? It

:12:26. > :12:36.would be a huge story. Murray is a big star already. He has the

:12:36. > :12:40.crossover appeal. I actually think he is getting better and better.

:12:40. > :12:48.How much mature he is, and how much better he is with interviews, with

:12:48. > :12:53.everybody, his public. Heat is improving -- he is improving all

:12:53. > :12:58.the time. In tennis terms, he is middle-aged but he is relatively

:12:58. > :13:03.young. And he is getting better. People are getting to see more and

:13:03. > :13:10.more of what Andy Murray is about. One last thing. Women's tennis. The

:13:10. > :13:14.Williams sisters. If Serena Williams, having barely picked up a

:13:14. > :13:24.tennis racket, was to win Wimbledon in three weeks' time, is that a

:13:24. > :13:26.

:13:26. > :13:29.good or that thing? It is certainly not a good thing. There is quite a

:13:29. > :13:33.lot of embarrassment potential. I think you'll find she has been

:13:33. > :13:37.practising hard. She would have not come over here unless she was clear

:13:37. > :13:41.in her own mind she actually had a chance. Grass gives her the chance

:13:41. > :13:46.because she is so good on it and some of the other players are up on

:13:46. > :13:53.shore. She will that at the Field and think there is a great

:13:53. > :13:57.opportunity for her. -- the other players are unsure. Will the

:13:57. > :14:02.women's game hope she will get beaten early so that embarrassment

:14:02. > :14:06.doesn't happen? I guess so. But she is still a name. Multiple Grand

:14:06. > :14:16.Slam winner and a character. And sometimes they need a bit of that.

:14:16. > :14:19.

:14:19. > :14:23.In Paris, the women's... It wasn't character like that may boost it

:14:23. > :14:30.but it could is embarrassing. think it is a good and a bad side

:14:30. > :14:36.to it. As you say, the women's game, the Williams sisters are of the

:14:36. > :14:45.stars. Either of those including Sharapova, if they won, if people

:14:45. > :14:49.want to read about that. One must point about this, Mealamu Lucic she

:14:49. > :14:55.is a fantastic story. We may remember her from a decade ago but

:14:56. > :14:59.now she is on her way back. Give us an insight into her story. It is

:14:59. > :15:07.beautiful to see a playing high level tennis again. I personally

:15:07. > :15:13.thought she was over. I did not hear from her in about three years'

:15:13. > :15:18.time. All of a sudden, I got a call from her sister and she was back on

:15:18. > :15:23.track. It is a great story. I saw her last here and I didn't like

:15:23. > :15:26.what I saw. I thought, this is going to be a struggle. But I am

:15:26. > :15:31.extremely happy for her and extremely happy she is playing good

:15:32. > :15:37.tennis again. She loves grass, and I am sure she is doing well this

:15:37. > :15:43.week. In Wimbledon, she can do a great result. Another fascinating

:15:43. > :15:53.piece in the women's jigsaw. Thank you, guys. That's it from me. Back

:15:53. > :16:15.

:16:15. > :16:25.It was pretty special last year and we will be there live with the BBC

:16:25. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:33.at the end of the year. There are two qualifiers already. To see

:16:33. > :16:40.tennis in November in the UK, and the very best of the tennis, the

:16:40. > :16:45.same tournament director as here. It is a tremendous event. Let us

:16:45. > :16:51.get your reaction to what was being discussed there, particularly about

:16:51. > :16:55.the Williams sisters. I agreed that it would be an embarrassment for

:16:55. > :17:02.the game River player cannot play for whole year and then come back

:17:02. > :17:06.and win a Grand Slam. I agree. Obviously the LTA are not going to

:17:06. > :17:16.say that. They want her to come back and they want her to be the

:17:16. > :17:17.

:17:17. > :17:21.big Four's that she is because she is a crossover staff. -- force. But

:17:21. > :17:25.they would rather she did not win it, because if she does come back

:17:25. > :17:34.and win it with no practice, then the depth of women's tennis is not

:17:34. > :17:42.good. Ought his seat -- fought his she just such a great player that

:17:42. > :17:46.we are discounting that? Only once in the last 12 years has it been

:17:46. > :17:52.someone other than one of the Williams sister that has won it. We

:17:52. > :17:57.are talking about two pretty different players here. They are

:17:57. > :18:02.fabulous on the grass. For it to be an embarrassment, is it that bit

:18:02. > :18:09.strong? An embarrassment for the women's game, not for Serena

:18:09. > :18:14.Williams. She probably look at the French and thought, nobody is

:18:14. > :18:21.coming through here, I could come back and win it. We have seen so

:18:21. > :18:30.many great rivalries, and that is what has been lacking. With Kim

:18:30. > :18:36.Clijsters injured and Justine Henin going out, does not look great on

:18:36. > :18:46.the rest of the tour. But there are plenty of entertaining women's

:18:46. > :18:48.

:18:48. > :18:55.matches. It is very much overshadowed by the men's game at

:18:55. > :19:01.the moment. It is an era that is quite amazing. Do women do have

:19:01. > :19:06.crossover stars. They have Maria Sharapova. She is favourite to win

:19:06. > :19:14.Wimbledon. It is great that she is coming back. And the Williams

:19:14. > :19:18.sisters. It paid state bit and played longer, we would be happy. -

:19:18. > :19:28.- if they stayed fit. But at the moment, they have all been injured

:19:28. > :19:38.so much that you do not get to see them. You have another golden era.

:19:38. > :19:38.

:19:38. > :19:43.I thought the era of Bjorn Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Ivan Lendl, was

:19:43. > :19:49.not bad. It is all relative. You always think the era when you are

:19:49. > :19:55.is the best. And everyone compares home McEnroe we do against Nadal or

:19:55. > :19:59.Bjorn Borg against Federer. It is difficult to compare that. Or you

:19:59. > :20:04.can say is that with in that era you have witness some great matches

:20:04. > :20:11.and been treated to some great tennis. You can tell when somebody

:20:11. > :20:15.is a little bit special. In another era there was Becker, Edberg, Jim

:20:15. > :20:20.Courier, Andre Agassi. There are always three or four great players

:20:20. > :20:24.at the top of the game. At the moment, I think Federer and Nadal

:20:24. > :20:29.are fantastic. We are going to look back and say that is a little bit

:20:29. > :20:36.different because of those two. Djokovic and Murray are trying to

:20:36. > :20:46.climb into that category. To watch and it dhal and Federer play is an

:20:46. > :20:49.

:20:49. > :20:54.absolute privilege. -- Nadal. Another topic was away that the

:20:54. > :21:01.British players are doing well. At least it is going in the right

:21:01. > :21:04.direction. This has been a good week, a good last couple of weeks.

:21:05. > :21:10.Mike Dixon was saying that he believes that you have to start

:21:10. > :21:16.from the bottom and I think we have come through a period where we have

:21:16. > :21:21.concentrated a little bit more on the top downwards. Sometimes there

:21:21. > :21:24.are a bunch of players that perhaps do not have to ability to make that

:21:24. > :21:28.break through and perhaps you need to know that and focus your

:21:28. > :21:34.attention right at the bottom and start with all the coaches and the

:21:34. > :21:39.money right at the bottom level. were talking about whether it would

:21:39. > :21:43.make any difference it at Andy Murray won Wimbledon, to British

:21:43. > :21:48.tennis overall. When Henman and Greg Rusedski were just emerging,

:21:48. > :21:53.if they had won a Slam, would it have made a difference? I contend

:21:53. > :21:58.that it would not because come October, tennis does not get a

:21:58. > :22:02.look-in. It is in the consciousness for one month each year. It would

:22:02. > :22:08.be fantastic for Andy Murray, but, ultimately, would it make any

:22:08. > :22:14.difference? I don't think it would. Andy Murray has been in three

:22:14. > :22:16.finals, Henman was in six semi- finals, and it did not make any

:22:17. > :22:21.difference in terms of participation. Tennis is not play

:22:21. > :22:26.by that many people in this country. I hope the weather will make a

:22:26. > :22:30.difference very soon. It does look a little bit brighter. We were

:22:30. > :22:35.promised that the shower would go over but at the moment the rain is

:22:35. > :22:42.coming down so we are still waiting for this match to resume. Andy

:22:42. > :22:47.Roddick is a set and a break up against Fernando Verdasco. And

:22:47. > :22:52.Rafael Nadal is due to play Jo- Wilfried Songa. The more that this

:22:52. > :23:00.rain comes down, do more likely it is that James court will find

:23:00. > :23:10.himself back on Court One. -- James Ward. Let us go back to John

:23:10. > :23:13.

:23:13. > :23:19.We have gone up into the second half here with Paul Newman from the

:23:19. > :23:25.Independent, a Russian player who has just won the doubles at Roland

:23:25. > :23:31.Garros and Roland Fraser, at the players fixer here. He organises

:23:31. > :23:36.theatre tickets and what else? Everything, restaurant reservations,

:23:36. > :23:44.hotels, information about London, European travel occasionally. And a

:23:44. > :23:48.few other things as well. What sort of things might they be? Well, a

:23:48. > :23:58.few years ago they gave me burnt nickname of dixit Fraser and I had

:23:58. > :23:59.

:23:59. > :24:03.to try to live up to it. The main thing is theatre reservations and

:24:03. > :24:12.restaurant reservations. They have been requests for players wives as

:24:12. > :24:17.well. It is spur of the moment, and if we can do something with an

:24:17. > :24:27.immediate result, I do not always get two or three days advance

:24:27. > :24:27.

:24:27. > :24:31.notice to arrange things. He sorted my hotel room a couple of days ago.

:24:31. > :24:37.Wednesday night was a busy night in London and my booking ran out so he

:24:37. > :24:42.was called in places and got me a hotel room. When you're on the tour,

:24:42. > :24:49.we were talking about this to James Ward earlier on, when he was

:24:49. > :24:53.playing on the Challenger Tour. You do have a lot of downtime, you

:24:53. > :24:57.cannot practise for 16 hours each day. How much do you try, if you

:24:57. > :25:03.are in Paris or Rome or wherever, how much you try to live the life

:25:03. > :25:07.of the city? You certainly have your priorities and for most of us

:25:07. > :25:12.our priority is to get the best preparation we can for the

:25:12. > :25:15.tournament and rest. A lot of the time you do not want go out and did

:25:15. > :25:20.the sightseeing prior to your match of the night before. However, we

:25:20. > :25:27.have our favourite places and on a day like today, I knew was going to

:25:27. > :25:32.be raining, and died went and visited Handley's. Having a couple

:25:32. > :25:37.of kids at home, I am sure I ball, way over the nice gift for them.

:25:37. > :25:44.Being in London, there are so many things to do. What is your

:25:44. > :25:49.favourite place to go and play? Australia. It is far away, takes a

:25:49. > :25:54.couple of days to get there, but once you are there, the people are

:25:55. > :25:59.fantastic, the weather normally is beautiful. A you go surfing, do you

:25:59. > :26:07.live the Australian life? physically. You hang around, I see

:26:07. > :26:10.people, a lot of friends there. You cannot engage yourself in physical

:26:10. > :26:15.activity is that a potentially dangerous for your body. It is

:26:15. > :26:20.interesting having two guys from Eastern Europe because you have

:26:20. > :26:26.been in the newspaper industry for many years and one of the

:26:26. > :26:30.criticisms levelled up modern day sports stars is that whereas in the

:26:30. > :26:35.old days they had so much life and so many stories to tell, the

:26:35. > :26:39.criticism levelled up modern stars is that they are one dimensional.

:26:39. > :26:45.Do you find that? But I think it is difficult because the players have

:26:45. > :26:50.to be so fit these days. They demand that sport placed on people

:26:50. > :26:53.these days. If you look at football matches from previous times they

:26:53. > :27:00.seem so much slower. The demand but are placed on players physically

:27:00. > :27:06.means that it is more difficult for them. Do you feel that there are

:27:06. > :27:09.not many mavericks on the tour? think came back to that issue, back

:27:09. > :27:14.then it was probably less competitive and it was a way of

:27:14. > :27:17.life, the way people were playing the tour. There were five or six

:27:17. > :27:23.countries competing and they became one big family and shed their of

:27:23. > :27:26.time together. Now it has become much more specialised and people

:27:26. > :27:32.know they have the best chances in certain tournaments and it has

:27:32. > :27:37.become so much more professional. How do you guys feel when players

:27:37. > :27:43.who were playing 20 or 30 years ago start offering substantial

:27:43. > :27:48.criticisms of your game and the game today? For me, sounds a little

:27:48. > :27:53.awkward. I think that every next generation is going to be better.

:27:53. > :27:59.It is just natural but things are improving, things are developing. I

:27:59. > :28:04.know that in 10 or 15 years we bull her players who are better,

:28:04. > :28:10.physically or in terms of tennis, better than Federer or Nadal today.

:28:10. > :28:15.It has to come. A long time ago, we thought that nobody can be better

:28:15. > :28:23.than Pete Sampras, and a few years later a Roger proved himself the

:28:23. > :28:31.better player. In tennis terms, McEnroe in his pomp, and Federer in

:28:31. > :28:36.his prime, how can you compare them? You cannot. They are

:28:36. > :28:44.different personalities. Tennis is more professional, sport is more

:28:44. > :28:49.professional. You really cannot lose time or energy playing with

:28:49. > :28:56.the crowd of with the linesman or with the chair umpire. You just

:28:56. > :29:00.cannot afford that. This is probably why people are saying

:29:00. > :29:04.there are no personalities. We have a lot of personalities in the

:29:04. > :29:09.locker rooms and in the players' area, is just that on the court to

:29:09. > :29:13.cannot afford to lose focus and lose your momentum. Can I ask both

:29:13. > :29:17.of you this, because it is perhaps easier for you to answer this

:29:17. > :29:21.question, because the Andy Murray is of this book on not want to

:29:21. > :29:26.answer this question honestly, for fear of showing some kind of

:29:26. > :29:33.weakness. When you are playing Federer or Nadal, how difficult is

:29:33. > :29:39.it? What other charges that you face? Two different players. For me,

:29:39. > :29:43.against Nadal, but most difficult thing is the first couple of games

:29:43. > :29:48.because he has rotations and spins that he has that nobody else has so

:29:48. > :29:53.it takes time to adjust to that. After that, I would always prefer

:29:53. > :29:58.to play Nadal than Roger. With Roger, I always feel that whatever

:29:58. > :30:03.I do he has an answer. With him, you never know what he is going to

:30:03. > :30:09.come up with. We've Rafa, you know more or less, but most the time it

:30:09. > :30:15.is so good that you cannot match it. With Roger, I remember in 2005, we

:30:15. > :30:18.played almost every week, he would come up with something new. Serve-

:30:18. > :30:28.and-volley and the next matches were played long and high balls.

:30:28. > :30:29.

:30:29. > :30:34.For him, you do not know what to It is funny, Ivan Ljubicic said he

:30:34. > :30:41.prefers to play Nadal, but for me it is the other way around. If you

:30:41. > :30:46.play Roger, it is an exciting video game, and when or lose, you admire

:30:46. > :30:50.the guy because a lot of the shots he plays are not in the tennis book.

:30:50. > :30:54.With Rafael Nadal, you know it is going to be a physical game and

:30:54. > :31:01.whether you win or lose, it is going to be boring, because he is

:31:02. > :31:06.going to run you down. Totally to make different players, and it

:31:06. > :31:12.requires a different set of skills to beat them on any given day. I

:31:12. > :31:17.have never beaten Rafa Nadal. I've been fortunate twice against Roger.

:31:17. > :31:22.On any day, I'd still prefer to play Roger. Do you run out of

:31:22. > :31:28.superlatives to describe them? think it you do. The thing is they

:31:28. > :31:33.are so different, that is the best thing. Federer is just for me to

:31:33. > :31:38.watch is fantastic. It is elegance, the beauty of the way he plays.

:31:38. > :31:42.With Nadal, there is an excitement about him. It is true all around

:31:42. > :31:46.world, there is a ripple of excitement whenever he walks out on

:31:46. > :31:52.to court. You can never run out of superlatives about them because

:31:52. > :31:56.they are so great. Your phone went off a minute ago. That could be

:31:56. > :32:03.Rafael Nadal demanding something. You didn't answer it. It has been

:32:03. > :32:08.diverted, somebody is helping me out. Do Roger or Rafael Nadal get

:32:08. > :32:14.better treatment? We have given everybody the best treatment. We

:32:14. > :32:20.always will. Everyone, we want everyone to think everything was

:32:20. > :32:29.amazing. The concierge helped, the set up help, we wanted to be as

:32:29. > :32:33.move for everybody. You are setting up an academy in Belarus which, it

:32:33. > :32:37.is one of those nations, we expect an avalanche of players from

:32:37. > :32:43.Belarus in the next couple of years. What are you doing, what is the

:32:43. > :32:48.objective? With the support of the local government, we have built and

:32:48. > :32:55.opened in March the Max Mirnyi Sports Centre, and we have as a

:32:55. > :33:05.core product, the tennis. We have tennis tensed that introduce kids

:33:05. > :33:10.

:33:10. > :33:14.from 5-Tavern years old -- 5-10 years old to tennis. This is

:33:14. > :33:21.something that we have introduced in Belarus and no other club has

:33:21. > :33:25.this sort of programme in place. We are getting a lot of people wishing

:33:25. > :33:31.to participate in different kinds of sport. We provide courses of

:33:31. > :33:36.yoga, fitness, aerobics, Sports dancing, table tennis, but Lycos

:33:36. > :33:44.said, tennis is the main product and we hope to grow it. -- but it

:33:44. > :33:48.like I said. We had to bring more youngsters into the game so in 10

:33:48. > :33:54.years' time, we hope to have more players. Sue Barker might want to

:33:54. > :33:59.talk about this later on, the cost of tennis. It is one of those

:33:59. > :34:02.things that puts things off. Is it like that in Croatia? That is

:34:02. > :34:08.always one of the accusations that are levelled at the game.

:34:08. > :34:13.Absolutely. It is difficult to get simple things, to buy a racket and

:34:13. > :34:17.get a court but more than that, as soon as kids are playing better,

:34:17. > :34:21.and here they have to start to travel around a world, Europe, that

:34:21. > :34:26.is where it becomes really difficult. And you haven't got

:34:26. > :34:31.Wimbledon paying millions of pounds into the association. Even for

:34:31. > :34:36.professionals, we have a lot of expenses ourselves. It is an

:34:36. > :34:40.expensive thing to do and of course, Max and I and a few other players

:34:40. > :34:44.are fortunate to make money and to be able to pay the expenses but

:34:44. > :34:54.there is so many kids, unfortunately, great talents, that

:34:54. > :34:55.

:34:55. > :35:00.cannot afford to do the sport. Sue, four grumpy but wise old man.

:35:00. > :35:04.I was only directing it at you, John. It is interesting talking

:35:04. > :35:09.about and we were discussing when they were discussing, I met

:35:09. > :35:14.yesterday with a guy who introduced urban tennis, which is taking it

:35:14. > :35:18.out onto the streets, giving kids rackets to play tricks. Once you

:35:18. > :35:21.get the feel of the ball, takes them to record, get them falling in

:35:21. > :35:27.love with tennis. But you make the point that you need athletes to

:35:28. > :35:37.take it up. I am thinking about the Croatians, the Belarus. Our

:35:37. > :35:42.athletes get taken into football, rugby, cricket. You imagine. Matt

:35:42. > :35:47.Dawson. Wouldn't it be nice, for instance, if an athlete of that

:35:47. > :35:54.calibre... Imagine if one of them played tennis. I am sure they had a

:35:55. > :35:59.chance when they were younger, but rugby is a dominant sport. Surely,

:35:59. > :36:03.in this country, what is unforgivable is that some of these

:36:03. > :36:09.kids haven't maximised their talent or haven't worked with people that

:36:09. > :36:12.know how to do it. That is the key, that is where we have gone wrong.

:36:12. > :36:19.We have got to have some of the best people we can working with

:36:19. > :36:24.kids. I'm not talking up foreign talent. I'm talking about top-level

:36:24. > :36:28.tennis, and people that have been let go. France keeps everybody in

:36:28. > :36:36.the game. If I have to. My finger at one era, that is something that

:36:36. > :36:41.could be improved. -- if I have to point my finger at one area.

:36:41. > :36:48.the weather, it is looking brighter. In the meantime, let's look back to

:36:48. > :36:54.a final. The 2008 Wimbledon final. Where will we join it? We will join

:36:54. > :36:59.it for some of the great moments, so sit back, and enjoy Roger and

:36:59. > :37:09.Rafa Nadal with us. It was an epic struggle. What it

:37:09. > :37:14.

:37:14. > :37:18.came down to was focus and It is the best match I have ever

:37:18. > :37:27.seen. The quality of the tennis and the nature of the match with the

:37:27. > :37:31.rain delays and the length of the match, it would get my vote.

:37:31. > :37:41.couldn't believe it. There was a moment when I thought, this match

:37:41. > :37:51.

:37:51. > :38:01.is never going to end. Both of them I guess my match with Bjorn Borg is

:38:01. > :38:02.

:38:02. > :38:12.not going to be seen a whole lot! The -- they are the two best

:38:12. > :38:25.

:38:25. > :38:29.match and we have seen on a tennis We were hoping the players would be

:38:29. > :38:33.walking out at 2pm, no right now, because this was when it was

:38:33. > :38:40.supposed to stop... I am reasonably hopeful for a decent amount of

:38:40. > :38:46.play... We have got some good news to bring you... It is looking

:38:46. > :38:54.brighter. Well, this will get a big brighter. Well, this will get a big

:38:54. > :38:58.cheer. I would put it in the top 2%

:38:58. > :39:04.favoured experiences. I became a fan of tennis again, this beautiful

:39:04. > :39:10.sport with so much drama, so much up-and-down, and I said, I am happy

:39:10. > :39:16.to be here. It was my first experience on the

:39:16. > :39:19.other side of the fence, and you could feel the tension. I have

:39:19. > :39:26.played in a few time matches, but it is so much easier playing than

:39:26. > :39:33.watching. I anticipated a great match, but I

:39:33. > :39:36.didn't think a classic would take a break. -- take place.

:39:36. > :39:42.If your chosen profession is tennis and if you happen to be a Wimbledon

:39:42. > :39:52.champion and if you walk into a Wimbledon room, it all adds up to

:39:52. > :39:52.

:39:52. > :39:57.the word awe. There won't be much of a conversation, not much eye

:39:57. > :40:06.contact because both of these men know how important the final is.

:40:06. > :40:11.You have to deal with your inner demons. They have emotions, they

:40:11. > :40:15.have expectations, they have butterflies in their stomach. Once

:40:15. > :40:20.they're on the court, they feel more comfortable. They are waiting

:40:20. > :40:30.for the match, and those 15 minutes before, it is the hardest part for

:40:30. > :40:46.

:40:46. > :40:52.the players. The 2008 Wimbledon If you can keep your head when all

:40:52. > :40:58.about you on losing theirs and blaming it on you... If you can

:40:58. > :41:08.trust yourself when all men doubt you... And make allowance for their

:41:08. > :41:13.

:44:59. > :45:04.Well, that is some little strength from Nadal. We sensed an element of

:04:20. > :04:26.have ever seen. What a final, what a rivalry, and what a treat for us

:04:26. > :04:31.at this rainy -- on this rainy afternoon. I am pleased to say the

:04:31. > :04:35.rain has moved away. That horrible grey cloud has finally been blown

:04:35. > :04:39.away from the Queen's Club. The covers are off and the net will go

:04:39. > :04:44.up shortly. There will be an inspection of the court, and we

:04:44. > :04:53.hope to see the resumption of play, to see Andy Roddick to play

:04:53. > :05:01.Fernando Verdasco in his quarter- final. He is 6-2, 3-1 up. Rafael

:05:02. > :05:06.Nadal will be on court later on as well. The big story is James Ward

:05:06. > :05:12.defeated the defending champion, Sam Querrey, and did it in some

:05:12. > :05:17.style. It was one set all after bad light stopped play last night but

:05:17. > :05:20.he came out today, and he is through to the quarter-finals. A

:05:20. > :05:26.terrific week for the British number two and he could be on court

:05:26. > :05:32.later on today if this weather holds. That is a big story for

:05:32. > :05:35.British tennis and the other story is that Andy Murray will not be on

:05:35. > :05:41.court today because Marin Cilic has poured out because of injuries so

:05:41. > :05:46.Andy Murray has been put through to the semi-finals tomorrow. That is

:05:46. > :05:50.the situation. We will be on court very soon at the AEGON

:05:50. > :05:55.Championships. In the meantime, let's go back to the players'

:05:55. > :05:59.lounge to the three, four five... How many wise men?

:05:59. > :06:09.There is nobody's that is grumpy, we are enthused an enthusiastic

:06:09. > :06:11.

:06:11. > :06:16.about what we will see shortly and following on from well what we have

:06:16. > :06:22.seen, more than enough tennis over the last couple of decades, and

:06:22. > :06:29.what was the best match you saw? Until two years ago, Bjorn Borg

:06:29. > :06:38.versus McEnroe, but the Nadal- Federer match was the best. I think

:06:38. > :06:44.so. Given with all the drama, Nadal hadn't won. Roger got a bit angry...

:06:44. > :06:52.I just thought it was melodramatic, the greatest match, for sure.

:06:52. > :06:57.agree. It is probably boring, but you can't beat it! It was

:06:57. > :07:05.everything you want and more. It had drama, and two great

:07:05. > :07:08.contestants. That was important as well because tennis is about

:07:08. > :07:12.rivalries, and that was the illustration of probably the

:07:12. > :07:20.greatest driver lead there has been. And you describe that in Five Live?

:07:21. > :07:27.I would go for Stepanek... No, it was the drama, and the quality of

:07:27. > :07:32.the play. The quality of that match was unbelievable. I've watched it

:07:32. > :07:36.back, making a documentary for 5 Live, and watching it back, you are

:07:36. > :07:43.amazed it happened. Because matches that happen when you are younger

:07:43. > :07:49.tend to live with you for longer, Borg against gauleiters in 1977, it

:07:49. > :07:58.is one of those games, I watched it and it can believe how amazing it

:07:58. > :08:01.was. Was it good? I have it in my mind it was. It was. I would have

:08:02. > :08:07.said I can't remember whether or not I was on the court but I

:08:07. > :08:14.remember that after Bjorn Borg beat him, that evening, gauleiters

:08:14. > :08:18.offered to practise with him, for the final. That was the kind of

:08:18. > :08:22.character he was, and the kind of affection that Bjorn Borg created

:08:22. > :08:27.with the people he played with. That was a different era, and

:08:27. > :08:32.looking back, we can see that it was played in a different speed and

:08:32. > :08:40.with a different athleticism than we are used to now but it was still

:08:40. > :08:49.extraordinary... The characters as well. You need the contrast.

:08:49. > :08:56.Gauleiters was like the show off. You are more likely to see him in

:08:56. > :09:01.Studio 54! That brings us to the subject of technology. When you

:09:01. > :09:04.watch Borg against McEnroe, you almost think it is on a slow-motion

:09:04. > :09:09.replay, sometimes, because of the nature of the balls going so much

:09:09. > :09:14.slower. Has that made it a better game now? Has it taken the finesse

:09:14. > :09:19.out? I am not sure about better but more even. A lot of players that

:09:19. > :09:25.were not of that quality can are now win events. Whether or not it

:09:25. > :09:32.makes tennis better, I am not sure. The wicked spins that players can

:09:32. > :09:37.get, the speed of the balls. It is evolution and changing all the time.

:09:37. > :09:40.Andy Murray is talking about how slow the court is and how heavy his

:09:40. > :09:44.honours on grass but it seems to the grass has got so other than

:09:44. > :09:51.clay. If you had said that 10 years ago, how would Pete Sampras and

:09:51. > :09:56.Goran it has so much -- Goran Ivanisevic perform now? It has

:09:56. > :10:00.changed, but whether for the better, I am not so sure. Barry, you have

:10:00. > :10:05.been around the block a few times, what do you think? Probably

:10:05. > :10:11.technology has taken over two match. The rackets. They can hit the ball

:10:11. > :10:15.so, so much harder. John McEnroe, he wants to bring back wooden

:10:15. > :10:21.rackets. Not a bad argument. It would sort out who has got the

:10:21. > :10:26.skill and power. Power is the dominant force, like it or not.

:10:26. > :10:32.sweet spot is so much larger. So from the back of the court, you can

:10:32. > :10:36.hit these all-powerful winning shots, and the shame is the art of

:10:36. > :10:43.serve and volley is dead. Taylor Dent was a good exponent. He

:10:43. > :10:47.retired, Max Mirnyi, who you spoke to, he is good at it but he is in

:10:47. > :10:52.the twilight of his career, and any player will tell you that it is

:10:52. > :10:56.unfeasible to serve a volley, because that ball is flying past

:10:56. > :11:06.you. That the meat is a shame because that contrast of styles

:11:06. > :11:06.

:11:06. > :11:10.adds to the sport. -- that for me. Radek Stepanek was being patted on

:11:10. > :11:15.the back for serving a volley! It was like a vintage car. We are

:11:15. > :11:21.going back to what we love. He comes in, takes the net, puts the

:11:21. > :11:26.volley a way, makes the spots different. Novak Djokovic employed

:11:26. > :11:31.Mark Woodforde, a good as -- a good volleyer, to try to teach him the

:11:31. > :11:37.new ones of volleying because he was not taught how to volley and he

:11:37. > :11:43.saw the need to have a net gain. And Rafa Nadal has improved it.

:11:43. > :11:47.Actually playing it all out, as serve and volley, Pat Rafter, you

:11:47. > :11:51.would be dead in the water. One of the reasons why Djokovic got the

:11:51. > :11:57.upper hand on Nadal on clay was because he's surprised him on more

:11:57. > :12:03.than half a dozen occasions by coming to the net and taking the

:12:03. > :12:07.initiative, when Nadal was caught. That was an important strategy that

:12:07. > :12:16.he brought to the game as he toured supremacy of the clay-court season,

:12:16. > :12:20.until Paris. -- as he took supremacy. So, last question,

:12:20. > :12:26.because it will be a glorious sunshine between now and the end of

:12:26. > :12:31.Wimbledon. Murray and Wimbledon? Semi-finals. I think he can win it.

:12:31. > :12:39.I really do. That is not just pick it isn't because he has got the

:12:39. > :12:42.game. If his mind is right, he can win. Donovan? I agree. He can win.

:12:42. > :12:48.I always said he will win a Grand Slam and nothing has changed my

:12:48. > :12:55.mind. Not even the form of Djokovic? Yes, he needs a bit of

:12:55. > :13:00.luck, like any player. What I would say is he had some amazing draws in

:13:00. > :13:05.the last Grand Slams. The French Open was a dream. He needs good

:13:05. > :13:11.fortune it at Wimbledon and, absolutely, he can do it. Yes, I,

:13:11. > :13:15.again, agree. I think the most important factor is let's see how

:13:15. > :13:18.Roger Federer rebounds from the French Open last because I think he

:13:18. > :13:27.still has a couple of Grand Slam titles in him and I wouldn't bet

:13:27. > :13:32.against him. Can I just say, somebody but me 10 last night who

:13:32. > :13:37.would win more than Slam titles, and I thought that was a really

:13:37. > :13:44.good question, between Federer and Murray, and I had 10 on Murray.

:13:44. > :13:54.What would you say? Murray. I would say eight two wall draw. Murray.

:13:54. > :13:56.

:13:56. > :14:06.Marian Oprea. Week -- sea, Sue, we are upbeat.

:14:06. > :14:08.

:14:08. > :14:13.Marta Milani or Federer? -- Murray. Who says they will win another

:14:13. > :14:18.Grand Slam? Ivan Lendl certainly, he is in Switzerland, and he

:14:18. > :14:23.created if Rory when he said, I don't think ridge -- Roger will win

:14:23. > :14:28.another Grand Slam. That is a good point made. There is a lot of good

:14:28. > :14:33.players coming through, and looking at del Potro as well who will be

:14:33. > :14:38.getting back into form. There is danger guys like Roddick that will

:14:38. > :14:44.be knocking these players off. I think he will win another Grand

:14:44. > :14:49.Slam, Federer, and Murray will as well but when, I do not know.

:14:49. > :14:54.a great era, isn't it. As far as serve-volleying, it is difficult

:14:54. > :15:00.because it is this four week window when you want to serve-volleys. It

:15:00. > :15:05.is tough to change of mentality. Frankly, these courts are too slow

:15:06. > :15:10.to serve a volley, especially on the second serve. In the old days,

:15:10. > :15:14.it was straight in. I am sitting next to the greatest volleyers of

:15:15. > :15:19.all time, by the way! The ball sticks in the grass, waiting to be

:15:19. > :15:23.hit, and the new problem with the rackets is they are so explosive,

:15:23. > :15:28.if you've got more than a foot either side of you to cover, and

:15:28. > :15:36.there is the lob as well, they are going to fit that space before

:15:36. > :15:46.anybody has a chance. It is like a penalty. It really doesn't make any

:15:46. > :16:01.

:16:01. > :16:05.The biggest change has come from the strings. I don't want to get

:16:05. > :16:14.into the technical differences off the strings, but the new polyester

:16:14. > :16:22.strings, which are not that new actually, they have been around for

:16:22. > :16:26.a few years, they make the ball squash into the string and shoot

:16:26. > :16:32.off. It is like a double barrelled shot said the string pushes the

:16:32. > :16:39.ball out but it also flattens the ball and the ball Springs off as

:16:39. > :16:46.well. It gets a double explosion from the strings. I think they need

:16:46. > :16:53.to outdoor it because it is almost impossible to serve. We have to say

:16:53. > :16:59.why have the grass court slowed down? The guy is have the shoes

:16:59. > :17:05.that rip up the court soap the all England guys know that he will not

:17:05. > :17:09.last for two weeks. You know about all the different seeds that they

:17:09. > :17:15.put in there. And they had to change it because of the roof as

:17:15. > :17:20.well. A exactly, and the air that changed as well. Would you like to

:17:20. > :17:30.see more volleying? A think we would all like to. The conditions

:17:30. > :17:31.

:17:31. > :17:37.changed and everything changed away from the big servers. We have swung

:17:37. > :17:46.back the other way. A probably a little bit too far. I think the

:17:46. > :17:56.best way to encourage people to come to the net is to change the

:17:56. > :17:56.

:17:56. > :18:02.balls. We have to make faster bolster encourage the players to

:18:02. > :18:06.come forward and at least be able to win with a good volley. We do

:18:06. > :18:11.not necessarily want aces everywhere but it someone hits a

:18:11. > :18:19.decent volley they should be rewarded for that. I think we have

:18:19. > :18:26.gone too far. Great news, as you can see, that the players are back

:18:26. > :18:33.on. I saw Roddick to a couple of serves and volleys in this match.

:18:33. > :18:43.He has played well. Fernando Verdasco has played a poor match.

:18:43. > :18:45.

:18:45. > :18:49.He will be disappointed. Roddick at the moment is cruising through,

:18:49. > :18:57.very comfortable. He is sharp and clean and fresh, which is something

:18:57. > :19:01.we cannot say for a couple of the guys. Just before we joined this

:19:01. > :19:10.match, or we will look back at the question we asked about whether

:19:10. > :19:16.Jack Kremer had one Wimbledon. He did win in 1947. We will look back

:19:16. > :19:21.with this match in just a moment. John is with a couple of people

:19:21. > :19:26.with important jobs. One is an administrator and one is

:19:26. > :19:32.a player. Look at them and guess which is which. Leon Smith is the

:19:32. > :19:38.Davis Cup captain and Chris Kermode is the director here. How

:19:38. > :19:44.frustrating has the last 48 hours been? It has been tough. Doing any

:19:44. > :19:48.outdoor event in England you have to factor of the same. It makes it

:19:48. > :19:54.difficult for players. There on and off all the time and to not get a

:19:54. > :20:00.rhythm. You have to wait for the grass to dry out. You have the rain

:20:00. > :20:03.in Paris and you are back on in five minutes. Considering how bad

:20:03. > :20:09.the forecast has been this week, I am amazed we have got to the stage

:20:09. > :20:14.where we are. Do you have contingency plans to play on

:20:14. > :20:21.Monday? We could. I think there has been one final in 30 years that has

:20:21. > :20:25.been on a Monday, in 1995. I think we get all the match is through to

:20:25. > :20:31.the final so that there is only one match to play, we will be fine,

:20:31. > :20:37.because you have a seven hour window to play one match. But

:20:37. > :20:47.everything is in place to play on Monday if we have to. I'm feeling

:20:47. > :20:50.

:20:50. > :20:55.confident, the players are coming on now. On Rafael Nadal, is there

:20:55. > :21:00.indeed indication whether he will play doubles? Is it up to him?

:21:00. > :21:05.is up to him. Knowing him, he will play doubles. He makes a commitment

:21:05. > :21:10.and he will do it. Potentially, he has to play this match, finished

:21:10. > :21:14.off his doubles from last night and play another one. The guy is so

:21:14. > :21:21.driven and mentally strong. It shows his desire up when he comes

:21:21. > :21:24.here to play. Your decision about the a Davis Cup and the second

:21:24. > :21:31.singles after Wimbledon has been made for you, which James Ward

:21:31. > :21:35.winning? It certainly does no harm. Last year at East born he had two

:21:35. > :21:45.great wins and it is great to see him pick up his form this week. He

:21:45. > :21:51.has a chance at the next match as well. He has to refocus now. He has

:21:51. > :21:58.a set on grass already today which have think will help him. James

:21:58. > :22:03.blame No. 2 presupposes that Andy Murray place number one. Will he?

:22:03. > :22:10.hope so. We are all excited, and any time that he is available to

:22:10. > :22:13.play, is great for everybody. all very well winning the next tie

:22:13. > :22:19.but you want to win the one after that and the one after that, and to

:22:19. > :22:28.do that you need Andy Murray in the team. Of course, any nation would

:22:28. > :22:37.Miss Andy Murray. To have him in the team is used for us. As the

:22:37. > :22:42.Davis Cup captain, do you wish that, barring injury, was mandatory for

:22:42. > :22:48.players to play, so he did not have to have these constant dilemmas?

:22:48. > :22:51.is tough. The nature of the schedule for the players is tough.

:22:51. > :22:55.We see the physicality some they go through every match. I think they

:22:55. > :23:02.need to be that degree of flexibility. A good look at how

:23:02. > :23:04.they adapt the competition four, that is another story. In our

:23:04. > :23:14.situation, Ben and he has not played, does give the opportunity

:23:14. > :23:18.for some of the other players to step up. The Davis Cup is a

:23:18. > :23:22.showpiece event and the next tie does not have live television

:23:22. > :23:27.coverage, and the sport cannot afford Pat. He needs that kind of

:23:27. > :23:33.show case for people to buy into the sport. It is a vicious circle.

:23:33. > :23:38.Andy Murray has got to play for the game to be on TV, for you to get

:23:38. > :23:44.promoted. He has a huge responsibility. He does, but so

:23:44. > :23:50.does the -- to the other players. In the last couple of ties, the

:23:50. > :23:56.players have stepped up. The job is to win the next one, and Luxembourg

:23:56. > :24:01.in July. Because on that and had to get through to the next what on

:24:01. > :24:08.there will be the promotion match to get into Division One were there

:24:08. > :24:11.are some strong teams. We saw Oliver Gold here on Monday and he

:24:11. > :24:20.was not over ought. What else is there beneath him that we can look

:24:20. > :24:28.forward to? He is one of a number of good juniors coming through.

:24:28. > :24:33.Ones that are competing internationally. There are a whole

:24:33. > :24:38.group of kids coming through. We need patience. We see how long it

:24:38. > :24:43.takes to transition out of the junior game into the seniors. You

:24:43. > :24:46.knock see so many people are 18 or 19 bursting onto the scene. It is

:24:46. > :24:51.about trying to identify the best players and having mechanisms to

:24:51. > :24:58.support their programmes, whether that is based in the UK or Spain of

:24:58. > :25:08.United States. It is a very good point about how much older they are

:25:08. > :25:12.now. Mannarino, who is playing James Ward, his 22. His coach was

:25:12. > :25:18.telling me probably about four years ago that he was the one to

:25:18. > :25:25.watch. There is a lot of pressure on him in France to perform. And he

:25:25. > :25:31.is just coming through now. It takes longer than people think.

:25:31. > :25:35.might like to fudge this a bit, but I hope you won't. Novak Djokovic

:25:35. > :25:39.brings up and says I am not coming, which is disappointing to you,

:25:39. > :25:43.because his faces on all the billboards and the programmes, but

:25:44. > :25:50.in a sense you can absorb that because Rafael Nadal this here and

:25:50. > :25:55.Andy Murray is here. The other tournament this week is built

:25:55. > :25:59.around Roger Federer. Federer said he was tired and he pulled out and

:25:59. > :26:03.the tournament director issued an extraordinary press statement, the

:26:03. > :26:11.kind of thing you do not normally here, saying he feels personally

:26:11. > :26:16.let down. Can you see both sides of the argument? No, I cannot. From a

:26:16. > :26:20.tournament. If you I can see how disappointed he was, I am sure he

:26:20. > :26:23.regret saying it. One of those things you say on the spur of the

:26:24. > :26:29.moment. When you do build an event around one player, that is the kind

:26:29. > :26:34.of thing that is going to happen. Here, what we have done over the

:26:34. > :26:39.years, is billed the cast list of players. Being so close to the

:26:39. > :26:43.French, you can almost guarantee of that someone will not turn up. We

:26:43. > :26:48.are incredibly lucky to have Rockwell that Althea, who fulfils

:26:48. > :26:56.every commitment. He is on his knees with exhaustion and he is

:26:56. > :27:06.still here. -- Rafael Nadal. Andy Roddick is here to win the

:27:06. > :27:10.tournament. It is a numbers game. You hope that two out of that 15,

:27:10. > :27:19.that is the sort of damage that might happen. Can you hope one day

:27:19. > :27:25.ever to get Federer to play this? We ask every year. He did play here

:27:25. > :27:31.three times. He played in juniors, in qualifying and a first round

:27:31. > :27:37.main draw. Then he went the other tournaments and won it. It is a

:27:37. > :27:42.superstition to him. I would love to have him here, obviously. What

:27:42. > :27:46.he brings to grass-court tennis, to have both of them would be superb.

:27:46. > :27:51.Looking ahead to the performance of Andy Murray, how must as a matter

:27:51. > :27:56.to him to win this? He said when he won it how much confident he got.

:27:56. > :28:01.The courts a great here, everybody loves playing it. It is important

:28:01. > :28:09.that he gets the preparation him before play in Wimbledon. I think

:28:09. > :28:15.it is important to him. He looked good in his match yesterday.

:28:15. > :28:19.Bizarrely, I think if he wins here, takes pressure off him at Wimbledon.

:28:19. > :28:22.The British number one, coming to play at Wimbledon, I remember

:28:22. > :28:30.watching Tim Henman playing in the semi-final and you could feel the

:28:30. > :28:40.tension every time he hit a tennis ball. But I think once he has a of

:32:11. > :32:11.

:32:11. > :32:18.The double break is his, the match will surely follow. Terrific

:32:18. > :32:21.defensive play. A scramble for the forehand squash shot. Just skidded

:32:21. > :32:29.over the net and everything is going right for Roddick at the

:32:29. > :32:37.moment. He has had a handful of lucky returns that have dribbled

:32:37. > :32:41.over the net. And made it awkward. And there he is, getting his last

:32:41. > :32:46.strings on the racket, and just skidding across the front and

:32:46. > :32:54.Verdasco couldn't do much more. That shot was clever. He was racing

:32:54. > :33:02.into the net. It is so easy to overhit it or push it wide. We have

:50:39. > :50:45.James Ward who put out the defending champion earlier today

:50:45. > :50:49.and will be up against Adrian Mannarino. That could go over to

:50:59. > :51:07.

:51:07. > :51:15.we will be covering it. Do you know the Wurzels? No idea what he was

:51:31. > :51:35.there, he is getting better and better. He missed them most of the

:51:35. > :51:41.clay-court season and he has come in here fresh and determined. This

:51:41. > :51:47.is his part of the year. He has a real shot at winning a Grand Slam,

:51:47. > :51:51.Wimbledon, and performing well. For Andy Roddick, I always look at the

:51:51. > :51:56.back and to see how that is going because that is the shot that is

:51:56. > :52:00.probably the most brutal of his. It has become a pretty good shot now.

:52:00. > :52:08.Early on in his career he was struggling to hit passing shot with

:52:08. > :52:16.that and it was great today. His opponent was well below par. You

:52:16. > :52:21.look at that score line. Andy Murray is going to be a lot harder.

:52:21. > :52:29.It is an interesting semi-final. That was the great missed

:52:29. > :52:35.opportunity back in Wimbledon, where Andy Roddick had a strategic

:52:35. > :52:40.triumph. He played a great match and Andy Murray was one of two

:52:40. > :52:44.points short for a place in the Wimbledon final. Of all the matches

:52:44. > :52:49.he has played, there would have got into the Wimbledon final. That will

:52:49. > :52:53.be a real match up in the semi- final. We look forward to that

:52:53. > :52:57.because Andy Murray have looked could this week. He has done really

:52:57. > :53:04.well. I would not be surprised if he's feeling a bit tired. The day

:53:04. > :53:13.after day will help him a lot. I tell you who would love a day off,

:53:13. > :53:16.is Rafael Nadal. He looked pretty tired yesterday afternoon. For once

:53:16. > :53:19.he was successful and have been successful at the French Open I

:53:20. > :53:26.just looking for a couple of matches to get under their belt,

:53:26. > :53:32.and maybe a doubles match to get used to the grass. After that, this

:53:32. > :53:37.is a bonus. As long as my body feels OK, they want to be nice and

:53:37. > :53:45.fresh. You see how fired up Andy Roddick is. He's always a little

:53:45. > :53:55.bit fired-up. He has a great sense of humour. Andy Murray is doing

:53:55. > :53:57.

:53:57. > :54:04.well. I am hearing that Andy Murray is going to pop up here for a chat

:54:04. > :54:09.before we go of air. As far as this one Co's, Jo-Wilfried Songa is a

:54:09. > :54:15.bit of a man mountain. He is. In terms of the match-up, the first

:54:15. > :54:23.thing you think about his that the top is tired. How badly does he won

:54:23. > :54:28.this and is there anything left in the tank? Jo-Wilfried Songa beating

:54:28. > :54:33.in the semi-final of the 2008 Australian Open and since then

:54:33. > :54:40.Rafael Nadal has beaten him back every single time. But Jo-Wilfried

:54:41. > :54:45.Songa does have the skills on a grass court. He has just come in

:54:45. > :54:51.from the French Open. All the French players build up to that

:54:51. > :54:56.emotionally, so the pressure is off now. Last year he was a quarter-

:54:56. > :55:01.finalist at Wimbledon. We have one of the world's finest grass-court

:55:02. > :55:05.players against Rafael Nadal, who is the Wimbledon champion. In the

:55:05. > :55:09.chat that John was doing downstairs, they were talking about how France

:55:09. > :55:14.has come through with so many players. That has held them because

:55:14. > :55:23.it has taken a lot of pressure off them. There are number of world-

:55:23. > :55:27.class players. Oh, dear, the umbrellas are up again. The French

:55:27. > :55:36.clay-court can take a little bit of rain but the grass cannot because

:55:36. > :55:41.it is so slippery. The rain is definitely coming down now. French

:55:41. > :55:45.tennis is quite placed at the moment without having quite a true

:55:45. > :55:50.superstar. This guy is another one that you watch at Wimbledon and

:55:50. > :55:55.think, definitely a potential semi- finalist. As far as Rafa is

:55:55. > :56:01.concerned, you talk about the fight of the man. Last night, he could

:56:01. > :56:05.have finished it in two but was the second set, against the very

:56:05. > :56:10.experienced Radek Stepanek. But when it matters, he digs deep and

:56:10. > :56:16.finds more. I love the 1000 yard stare. There was almost as though

:56:16. > :56:21.he lost control of his neck muscles, he was so tired. Chris Kermode, the

:56:21. > :56:26.tournament director, was talking about it earlier on. You have to

:56:26. > :56:31.understand that you cannot keep going deep. But this plant seems to.

:56:31. > :56:37.He knows what is ahead, which is a weak off next week. I would think

:56:37. > :56:42.that he would go back home and rest for three or four days. After the

:56:42. > :56:49.French Open, he did all his press, had his picture taken, did all that

:56:49. > :56:59.kind of stuff. Obviously, he needs some time off. But he likes

:56:59. > :57:00.

:57:00. > :57:05.competing and he is the best at it. We are all set for this one. Jo-

:57:05. > :57:15.Wilfried Songa about to start this quarter-final against the world No.

:57:15. > :57:15.

:57:15. > :58:03.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:58:03. > :58:13.1. Andrew will be on his way and he The court is very greasy. It is

:58:13. > :58:14.

:58:14. > :58:24.raining again. That is the end of that. Well, one of those days. It

:58:24. > :58:24.

:58:24. > :58:34.is frustrating for the crowd, the players, everybody involved. No,

:58:34. > :58:48.

:58:48. > :58:52.they are staying. He wants to stay. I cannot believe that the players

:58:53. > :59:01.are still waiting there because there is no chance of this match

:59:01. > :59:08.continuing. We have already seen him slide under the net. He does

:59:09. > :59:16.not want to be around any more. This sort of thing is not required.

:59:16. > :59:22.That is a forlorn sight. Why is he still there? And Jo-Wilfried Songa

:59:22. > :59:26.is still there as well. They are covering the court now so I am not

:59:26. > :59:30.sure whether they were told to stay there. I cannot believe that the

:59:30. > :59:38.players would not just run for cover. Both players have probably

:59:38. > :59:43.had enough of the locker room for the day. It is just the feeling, I

:59:43. > :59:48.hope he is around for the weekend and doesn't say, I am off. It is

:59:48. > :59:53.quite possible he could say that. It is not going to make or break

:59:53. > :59:57.his world. It is not in his nature, though. It is not, and I'm not

:59:57. > :00:01.suggesting any unprofessional behaviour. It is just everything he

:00:01. > :00:06.has been through, and the thing that is a head, defending his

:00:06. > :00:16.Wimbledon title. He will not want be here until next Tuesday, for

:00:16. > :00:22.

:00:22. > :00:29.instance. If we keep having rain Looking up at the sky, there is

:00:29. > :00:33.blue-sky up ahead. But it has been covered. It will not happen

:00:33. > :00:38.straight away even when the Commerce -- covers come off.

:00:38. > :00:42.will be 45 minutes after the coverers get taken off at the court

:00:42. > :00:47.is prepared and the players start playing. We have been really

:00:47. > :00:54.unlucky. Over so many years, the odd shower now and again. But we

:00:54. > :00:59.have had super weather. We have seen the court burnt by the end of

:00:59. > :01:06.the week through hard play and sunshine. This is what makes them

:01:06. > :01:13.such a great champion. He is right- handed! We were talking about that.

:01:13. > :01:18.Boris Becker, he has a home in Majorca, very close to the House of

:01:18. > :01:23.Rafa Nadal. And his uncle Tony asked Boris -- Boris Becker to come

:01:23. > :01:29.over. And he can play with both sides. He obviously made the

:01:29. > :01:35.decision that the stronger hand was the left as Forest tennis is

:01:35. > :01:43.concerned. He will head in. Greg Rusedski saw him play when he was

:01:43. > :01:50.15 years old and he just went, what have we got here? Graham was

:01:50. > :01:56.talking to the man himself. Even when the covers,, he says she will

:01:56. > :02:02.not be out for a while. He probably got you to practise this morning.

:02:02. > :02:07.And it's 5:00pm, still no chance. Incredibly disappointing. John

:02:07. > :02:13.Lloyd joins us again. Can't believe he is still out there. At least the

:02:13. > :02:20.crowd have had a chance to see more of him. Strange that he stayed out

:02:20. > :02:25.at all! I just said that there is a possibility without suggesting any

:02:25. > :02:29.unprofessional conduct that he will not fancy this at all. With

:02:29. > :02:35.Wimbledon up ahead. I hope he does not fit the decision that he has

:02:35. > :02:41.had enough of this tournament. He has made his contribution. He will

:02:41. > :02:45.rest ahead of Wimbledon. I am in anticipation. It is probably

:02:45. > :02:50.inaccurate. Rafa Nadal heading back to the locker-room. Jo-Wilfried

:02:50. > :02:54.Tsonga. We will keep you up-to-date. And much a ribald get much tennis

:02:54. > :03:00.year. But it will continue on the Red Button if there was any play

:03:00. > :03:10.this evening. Let's go back inside to the players under cover. The

:03:10. > :03:12.

:03:12. > :03:17.It doesn't matter if you are the Grand Slam champions, you must

:03:17. > :03:22.leave when the rain comes. How frustrating to you feel? It can be

:03:22. > :03:28.pretty tough. We are coming up a pretty good week in Paris. You just

:03:28. > :03:32.happy to be here. We love playing on grass. We don't mind the rain.

:03:32. > :03:42.The last few years we have had such great winter. We are expecting the

:03:42. > :03:48.worst. But it's good to just chill on her phone and do some staff that

:03:48. > :03:54.is quite useless. But it's fun on the end. How about you? We do get

:03:54. > :03:59.spoiled. At Wimbledon. Here at the Queen's Club, it's just a waiting

:03:59. > :04:04.game. Any time you come to London, the surface we are playing on is so

:04:04. > :04:08.specific to the rain. We are accustomed to some drops. We just

:04:09. > :04:14.spend the time here with family and friends and play board games and at

:04:14. > :04:21.the time go by. Who is a demon in the players' locker-room? If the

:04:21. > :04:28.offer to play table tennis, you think, no way, they are too good!

:04:28. > :04:33.like playing ping pong. He was slicing everything back perfectly!

:04:33. > :04:39.Very talented guy it on and off the court. He looks like he would be

:04:39. > :04:43.the chance. Rafa Nadal is the man to avoid at table football. I hear

:04:43. > :04:46.that Andy Baddeley is pretty good. I was next to him and one of the

:04:46. > :04:55.hotel grounds and he was pretty wild and aggressive on his video

:04:55. > :05:01.game. Yes, the PlayStation. best tennis players are the best

:05:01. > :05:05.players in the lounge as well. important is that for the doubles

:05:05. > :05:11.partnership of the court because that translates on the court? Can

:05:11. > :05:15.you hate each other and still be a good partnership? You have had --

:05:15. > :05:20.her stories in the past uncertainty was not getting along of court.

:05:21. > :05:26.That happens after some time spent together. Once you get onto the

:05:26. > :05:30.court, it is so different, it is business and you must do your job.

:05:30. > :05:37.Right now, Max and myself are together and happy and hopefully

:05:37. > :05:43.that will continue. He is a great guy, very down-to-earth. It can

:05:43. > :05:46.only help if you have a good relationship on and off the court.

:05:46. > :05:53.They say that partnership is like a marriage, you have to make it work

:05:53. > :05:57.or else it can get nasty. Well, they are at least enjoying the rain.

:05:57. > :06:07.They have no hope of getting on today if we cannot get the singles

:06:07. > :06:44.

:06:44. > :06:54.played. Both of them have won this You have to be kidding me! What a

:06:54. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :07:37.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 88 seconds

:07:37. > :07:45.Everyone wants to be there, 20th November and plenty of tickets

:07:45. > :07:50.available. Daniel Nestor has warned that three times. It is fantastic

:07:50. > :07:56.for singles and doubles. The set of tennis that Federer played against

:07:56. > :08:01.Djokovic was a joke, it was the evening semi-final. It was to end

:08:01. > :08:05.his unbeaten streak but the last guy to beat him was much better in

:08:06. > :08:10.that match and the first set was ridiculous, we were not working, we

:08:10. > :08:15.have little drink and we thought it was just amazing. Watching Roger

:08:15. > :08:22.Federer. And then Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal. Unbelievable. These

:08:22. > :08:25.guys make the semi-final a lot. This is just so frustrating. Rafa

:08:25. > :08:30.Nadal, not to be able to get on and play his match. He had a

:08:30. > :08:35.frustrating time last night. He played a late and it's cold and wet.

:08:35. > :08:40.It will be tough for him to get through this week? And having the

:08:40. > :08:44.right preparation for Wimbledon? has enough matches under his belt.

:08:44. > :08:49.But he wants to play. He stayed on the court and refused to leave. He

:08:49. > :08:55.just wants to get this on it. He is fired up. He doesn't like hanging

:08:55. > :09:00.around. You get used to the Grand Slams, that is part of it, but here

:09:00. > :09:04.he just wants matches and it is so frustrating for all of them. Andy

:09:04. > :09:09.Murray will be the happiest. He was on his way up here and he got

:09:09. > :09:15.diverted to the press conference. He will be really so happy to get

:09:15. > :09:20.through. Not quite so happy to be facing Andy Roddick. But he has had

:09:20. > :09:25.a fantastic day, you can have a nice dinner. Hit a few balls and

:09:25. > :09:28.cruise home. He is ready. They are already. But they want to finish,

:09:29. > :09:32.they want to compete and play this tournament and sharpen up. The

:09:32. > :09:37.great thing about the semi-final between Andy Roddick and Andy

:09:37. > :09:42.Murray is they want to beat each other. Andy Roddick is fired up, he

:09:42. > :09:46.has beaten Lopez, Anderson and now Verdasco. That is a semi-final that

:09:46. > :09:54.we shall relish. Even if he doesn't have the full tank, he will not

:09:54. > :09:58.want to lose. Just talk about James Ward. Terrific performance. Putting

:09:58. > :10:07.out the defending champion, Sam Querrey. He is due to play his

:10:07. > :10:11.quarter-final against Adrian Mannarino. Two wins back-to-back.

:10:11. > :10:14.Some British past masters have had good publicity and it has gone to

:10:14. > :10:20.the head and the next day it was a let-down and they have not played

:10:20. > :10:24.well. He has done this, two matches and he has been at his best and

:10:24. > :10:28.perhaps the third one today. He is making a breakthrough and there is

:10:28. > :10:33.a long way to go but he has given himself a chance. This was a good

:10:33. > :10:36.performance, very professional. Beating Sam Querrey. And he was

:10:36. > :10:41.questioned in that last game. He found the answers. Because he got

:10:41. > :10:45.to that match. And it was quite passive and then one break point

:10:45. > :10:50.down and he fired down the line with that pushy backhand off the

:10:50. > :10:55.short ball, nice and deep. And then served it out. He came through

:10:55. > :10:59.under fire. He has probably been in about 16 or 17 towns and cities

:10:59. > :11:01.around the world after his different levels and this was his

:11:01. > :11:07.opportunity and a few wins another match he will double his prize

:11:08. > :11:12.money for the year! And he has been all over the place. Maybe the

:11:12. > :11:16.players are bored but this man has been working very hard. All of them

:11:16. > :11:20.have. These covers have been on and off right the way through these

:11:20. > :11:27.championships. And I am not sure why they have denied this. It is

:11:27. > :11:31.coming off. Hopefully we will get some play in just a moment. But you

:11:31. > :11:35.talk about prize-money and James Ward but it is the points. He would

:11:35. > :11:42.get so many points from ATP. It is all about the rankings, and what

:11:42. > :11:46.tournaments you can get into. in the world, currently 216 points

:11:46. > :11:53.and he has computer points coming off the computer next week. Is he

:11:53. > :11:58.playing at Eastbourne? He would be mad not to. He has his wild card at

:11:58. > :12:01.Wimbledon so he doesn't have to qualify. Now he is set fair, he has

:12:01. > :12:05.replaced those computer points that he will lose next week. He might be

:12:05. > :12:09.able to maintain that decent wracking. If he was to win another

:12:09. > :12:12.match, is renting will rise. That is roughly how the system works.

:12:12. > :12:21.And Russia what is going on. They don't know whether to uncover this

:12:21. > :12:27.court. Some indecision. Plenty of moisture landed on that court. Buy

:12:27. > :12:30.me some Rafa Nadal slipping under that net, the opening point, for

:12:30. > :12:35.the crowd, they want to get him back on but we don't want to put

:12:35. > :12:39.him at risk. And, indeed, Jo- Wilfried Tsonga. There are very

:12:39. > :12:44.knowledgeable here. This is an important event, don't get me wrong,

:12:44. > :12:48.but the public knows that you cannot put the best player in the

:12:48. > :12:52.world in jeopardy here if the court is that right so they might have to

:12:52. > :12:57.be patient until it is absolutely bone-dry. I remember the old days,

:12:57. > :13:00.we had a certain referee who never played before and late at night, it

:13:00. > :13:04.might have be raining, and they don't have the technology and he

:13:04. > :13:09.would come out in his jacket and tie and say, perfectly fine, play

:13:09. > :13:17.on. And you would break your neck! And that was before these little

:13:17. > :13:23.stones on the bottom of your shoes. You had no chance of staying up!

:13:23. > :13:27.Canvas shoes. An extremely short shorts. But at least the sun

:13:27. > :13:34.shining and that is a bonus. The more the sun is out, the more that

:13:35. > :13:38.will dry up. So, we're coming off their very soon. But of course, if

:13:38. > :13:42.there is any play, we will be on the Red Button at right the way

:13:42. > :13:46.through the evening. If there is any play and Rafa Nadal gets back

:13:46. > :13:52.onto the court against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, we will be covering that.

:13:52. > :13:57.And we're waiting to see if James Ward will play today. Facing Adrian

:13:57. > :14:03.Mannarino. We will cover that as well. Semi-finals day tomorrow,

:14:03. > :14:09.weather permitting, we will be live on BBC One tomorrow at 1pm. Briefly,

:14:09. > :14:13.frustrating? Look, the sun was coming out and we're going off her.

:14:13. > :14:17.The Red Button for us. We will stick around. If there is tennis

:14:17. > :14:24.around, we will be there. Formula One coverage, the practice

:14:24. > :14:32.for the Canadian Grand Prix tonight at 6:55pm on the Red Button. And

:14:32. > :14:36.tomorrow is the race, 5:15pm his qualifying on BBC One. All of that

:14:36. > :14:41.coming up later on. We will have some tennis, and pleased to say,
