:01:39. > :01:41.starts today for Andy Murray and his supporters. He starts his title

:01:42. > :01:47.defence this afternoon on Centre Court against Paul-Henri Mathieu,

:01:48. > :01:52.the second match on. This player has only won set off Andy Murray in five

:01:53. > :01:57.meetings. Leyton Hewitt is under way, the former Wimbledon champion,

:01:58. > :02:02.up against Feliciano Lopez, down a break of serve in the first. Joining

:02:03. > :02:07.that shortly. And then the top seed here, the Australian open champion,

:02:08. > :02:12.Stan Wawrinka, up against Marcos Baghdatis who is on a six match

:02:13. > :02:19.winning streak, so not an easy start for Stan. And then the ever popular

:02:20. > :02:27.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against David Goffin. The crowds flock in and

:02:28. > :02:31.there has been a real buzz at Queen's Club all week. The weather

:02:32. > :02:37.is ideal once again and we have an order of play to savour. The star of

:02:38. > :02:45.the showbiz Andy Murray, walking on to court. What an afternoon. We have

:02:46. > :02:48.been on Murray watch already, finding him out on practice court

:02:49. > :02:54.sporting his new haircut, which he got yesterday. There he is, ready

:02:55. > :02:59.for his grass court season. It has all come round so fast. 12 months

:03:00. > :03:06.ago it started here. Champion of Queen's and then going on to win the

:03:07. > :03:09.77 year wait to find a male Wimbledon champion and becoming a

:03:10. > :03:20.national hero. A lot has changed since then. His new coach is there,

:03:21. > :03:23.former singles champion. -- Amelie Mauresmo. She will find herself in

:03:24. > :03:28.the spotlight very much over the next few weeks but she is not

:03:29. > :03:31.talking at the moment, just concentrating on overseeing Andy

:03:32. > :03:37.Murray's preparations for the grass court season. She will really be in

:03:38. > :03:41.the spotlight. We will see what she can deliver. I think she is going to

:03:42. > :03:47.be a very steadying influence for him. I think so. She has been there,

:03:48. > :03:51.she has won two Grand Slams and he knows what it is about. And Andy

:03:52. > :03:57.Murray is clean shaven for the first time! Is that her influence? She

:03:58. > :04:03.might make him clean up a bit! Unusual for him. She is calm and tea

:04:04. > :04:12.has been there and done it. She went through a lot of adversity in her

:04:13. > :04:18.tennis career. A bit of a choker. Then she got the monkey off her back

:04:19. > :04:22.with the Australian Open, that was tainted by injury, and then she won

:04:23. > :04:26.Wimbledon. A good player tactically, and I think a good personality, so

:04:27. > :04:32.they will mesh well together. Let's face it, she does not have to

:04:33. > :04:37.reinvent the wheel! Andy Murray is a great grass court player and he

:04:38. > :04:41.played terrific tennis in Paris. OK, he got thrashed by Rafael Nadal, but

:04:42. > :04:46.everybody did. Things are on the up for him right now. It is as though

:04:47. > :04:51.she just needs to come in and see how it goes. She does not have to

:04:52. > :04:56.come in and be a superstar coach. No. I think she has to be there to

:04:57. > :05:00.deflect a lot of stuff, to be a sounding board, in some ways, which

:05:01. > :05:04.she does not have in that team, someone who has been there and done

:05:05. > :05:09.it. That was the one missing element. It comes into play with a

:05:10. > :05:13.Grand Slam winner, as it did with Ivan Lendl, there's little moments

:05:14. > :05:17.the night before crucial matches, before the semifinals of Grand

:05:18. > :05:21.Slams, when even great players sometimes get nervous and have

:05:22. > :05:25.doubts. When you have someone in your corner who has been there and

:05:26. > :05:28.done it, that can make the difference. You are looking for a

:05:29. > :05:32.tiny edge these days because the top players are so good. It comes down

:05:33. > :05:41.to this. Maybe just one little thing that she says to be mentally at

:05:42. > :05:43.night will the difference. It is not just about the tennis, it is what is

:05:44. > :05:49.happening up here. What did Andy Murray have to say about his new

:05:50. > :05:52.appointment? For me it does not feel so different because when I was

:05:53. > :05:56.growing up I had my mum working with me until I was 17 so I have always

:05:57. > :06:04.had a strong female influence in my career. I found with my mum

:06:05. > :06:10.especially that she listened extremely well. That was something

:06:11. > :06:14.that I felt right now that I needed. I have started to listen to my body

:06:15. > :06:17.a lot more because over the years you start to pick up on things. I

:06:18. > :06:20.think it is important that the people you work with respect that

:06:21. > :06:27.and understand and listen to how you are feeling. You can't just be

:06:28. > :06:32.pushed extremely hard every single day. I need to pick my moments

:06:33. > :06:39.during the year when I really go for it in training. That was one of the

:06:40. > :06:44.reasons. For me it just did not feel like a strange thing to do because I

:06:45. > :06:50.grew up with a female coach. When you come here and you know that

:06:51. > :06:53.Wimbledon is just a few weeks away, is that pretty exciting? Very

:06:54. > :06:58.exciting. It is a period that I always look forward to. All of the

:06:59. > :07:02.players when they come on the grass, everybody seems to be happy. Towards

:07:03. > :07:07.the end of the clay-court season everybody is quite tired and down.

:07:08. > :07:11.Just mentally fatigued. But then when you see everyone on the grass,

:07:12. > :07:19.everyone is smiling and happy. The sun is out. It is a great period of

:07:20. > :07:24.the year. I just wish it was a bit longer. He has some happy memories

:07:25. > :07:31.here. Not just last year but before. Coming back to a place he is

:07:32. > :07:34.familiar with. He might be the best grass court player now. Roger

:07:35. > :07:38.Federer was always viewed as the best but Andy Murray might have

:07:39. > :07:43.usurped him. He is very comfortable on that surface and he moves very

:07:44. > :07:53.well on it. He returned serve so incredibly well so it is a great

:07:54. > :07:59.strength for him. A lot has changed with a new coach, but also the back

:08:00. > :08:03.surgery. A lot of players will not go through surgery, only as a last

:08:04. > :08:09.resort, but his results have been good. That is an issue as well. Yes,

:08:10. > :08:14.the back surgery was a serious operation. He got through it all

:08:15. > :08:17.right. It has been worrying him for many years. He had to make the

:08:18. > :08:21.decision to do bit and you never know what might happen after that

:08:22. > :08:24.and he has recovered well. Everybody expects him to jump back and be

:08:25. > :08:28.winning things right off the back but it has not happened. It has been

:08:29. > :08:31.a gradual climb since then. In the French Open I thought he played

:08:32. > :08:40.extremely well until he looked tired against Rafael Nadal in the semis.

:08:41. > :08:46.If he is not favourite, he is probably second favourite. This is

:08:47. > :08:52.just his record through the year. He has not reached a final. He has lost

:08:53. > :08:56.to some of the big names. Some results against people who probably

:08:57. > :09:00.should have beaten. John makes a great point about the back surgery.

:09:01. > :09:06.We expected him to come back and say the pain had gone, right? I don't

:09:07. > :09:11.think his back is entirely better. It is still one of the situation is

:09:12. > :09:19.that he has got to manage. Some days, some shots, he will go to hit

:09:20. > :09:22.them and have pain. It is interesting signing Amelie Mauresmo,

:09:23. > :09:26.someone who can set aside with what he is going through physically, and

:09:27. > :09:34.maybe tweak his training just to make sure it is as strong as it

:09:35. > :09:38.needs to be. We have all gone through surgery and stuff but I

:09:39. > :09:42.wonder if you ever trust your body as much when you have gone through

:09:43. > :09:48.surgery. Exactly. That is the whole key. You get twinges and worry. But

:09:49. > :09:54.I am sure that he has been assured that everything is OK but it is easy

:09:55. > :09:58.for us to say that. It will be proved by how he is winning matches

:09:59. > :10:01.and recovering afterwards. It is something you have got to manage. A

:10:02. > :10:07.tennis career is strenuous these days. It always was, but now, with

:10:08. > :10:11.what they put themselves through, he has to manage it. He has the right

:10:12. > :10:16.people around him. He has to rest of the right time. It is a science now

:10:17. > :10:20.and he has to maintain it. He could have another five or seven years at

:10:21. > :10:32.the top anti-has to be careful Lopez has has taken the first set 6-3.

:10:33. > :10:38.Now, Marcos Baghdatis. Terrible clay season, did not win a match. Then he

:10:39. > :10:49.won in Nottingham. When you are such a good grasp layer like him, is he

:10:50. > :10:53.as good as he used to be? -- grass player. Probably not. But it is a

:10:54. > :11:01.difficult thing for Stanislas Wawrinka to come into. And after the

:11:02. > :11:05.French Open. Yes. I think Stan is battling with the expectations

:11:06. > :11:10.everyone has of an Australian Open champion. And to come onto grass,

:11:11. > :11:14.which he has not really had success on, I am sure he will be nervous. He

:11:15. > :11:21.will be very tight coming into this match against Baghdatis. That was a

:11:22. > :11:25.heck of a win. 12-0 was the head to head and then he beat Rafael Nadal

:11:26. > :11:31.to win his first Grand Slam title. Boy, a lot expected of him now. This

:11:32. > :11:36.was him back to sing today. We will set you a challenge as well. It is a

:11:37. > :11:44.tough start for the top seed and we want to know who you think will win

:11:45. > :11:52.that match. We want you to tell us through Twitter or on our website.

:11:53. > :12:04.The terms and conditions are on the tennis pages of the website. The

:12:05. > :12:06.vote will close. -- just before the end of the match. Beta, you have got

:12:07. > :12:18.to run to the commentary box. Hello. A beautiful day at Queen's

:12:19. > :12:21.Club. Not so beautiful for Leyton Hewitt, required to serve from the

:12:22. > :12:43.end from which he dropped his serve, which cost him the set.

:12:44. > :13:12.Lleyton having real trouble with ball toss going into the sun.

:13:13. > :13:20.These players have played four times. Leyton Hewitt leads 4-0 in

:13:21. > :13:49.the head-to-head. He has just lost his first ever set to Lopez 6-3.

:13:50. > :13:57.Cristiano Lopez the recipient of a gift game, starting off this match

:13:58. > :14:04.with Leyton Hewitt serving into the strength of the sun. -- Feliciano

:14:05. > :14:37.Lopez. I think the Sun has moved just enough to make it comfortable.

:14:38. > :14:42.son is in charge now. Just chilling. No work to do today. The work is

:14:43. > :14:47.done in preparation. The first week of the French Open there was quite a

:14:48. > :14:49.lot of rain, so the court retained a fair bit of moisture. I was talking

:14:50. > :15:08.to them about it and no problem. Their guys have managed better this

:15:09. > :15:31.year compared to early last year, that is the shore. -- that is

:15:32. > :15:36.certain. People applying sun lotion. Jerry is from Eastbourne, the sun

:15:37. > :15:44.trap of the cells, well-prepared. -- of the South. Everybody seems to

:15:45. > :15:48.congregate in the clubhouse before they go out. It is so old-fashioned,

:15:49. > :16:31.quaint. Older than your country, I think! If not me!

:16:32. > :16:39.That is nasty! Nobody is getting that back. This was how he served

:16:40. > :16:42.out the first set. Even if somebody gets a racket on it, what could they

:16:43. > :17:15.do? Into the crowd. Assuring Hewitt that the ball was

:17:16. > :17:20.clearly long, then a challenge. -- no challenge.

:17:21. > :17:28.You see what you have to defend against Lopez, don't you? The first

:17:29. > :17:39.one virtually in the front row of the crowd. The same ball costs, just

:17:40. > :17:41.no time to defend. A left-hander with a good swing at lock in the

:17:42. > :18:16.middle. Indefensible. He will hit that 18 or 19 out of 20,

:18:17. > :18:26.that serve. Good strong 85% at 100 mph. That is what players should

:18:27. > :18:33.work on more at club level, having a good 80% first serve that they can

:18:34. > :18:35.absolutely rely on. Do you agree? Sounds like good advice! Wish I had

:18:36. > :18:51.thought of it! Very rarely will you see Leyton

:18:52. > :21:01.Hewitt slipped off balance on this surface.

:21:02. > :21:05.That is one of the beautiful things about watching Leyton Hewitt. You

:21:06. > :21:17.know that he is always in the match. Perhaps that it starts to get a

:21:18. > :21:21.better feel for returning Lopez's serve, he will be a more difficult

:21:22. > :21:50.proposition. We have the small matter of

:21:51. > :21:53.Wimbledon ahead for everyone involved in tennis. The football

:21:54. > :22:01.World Cup starts tomorrow. I thought I had seen these two in the same

:22:02. > :22:06.group, Australia and Spain. Really? I don't like Australia's chancers. I

:22:07. > :22:09.don't know much about their team. I like Leyton Hewitt's chances of

:22:10. > :22:18.winning this match more than his football team. You are a savvy

:22:19. > :22:25.sports commentator, aren't you? United States, you guys have got

:22:26. > :22:29.Ghana. They can play. Portugal. Someone called Ronald in their

:22:30. > :22:39.team. And Germany. Is it Ronald McDonald? You are a massive football

:22:40. > :22:43.fan. Chelsea bloke, aren't you? Yes, why not? I don't like our chances in

:22:44. > :22:56.the World Cup, let's leave it at that. England against Italy at 11

:22:57. > :23:00.o'clock on Saturday night, is it? Is it the late game? Is that too late

:23:01. > :23:10.for you? I will have to set my alarm!

:23:11. > :23:18.The newspaper is absolutely covered in football supplements and that

:23:19. > :23:21.sort of thing at the moment. Tennis will certainly be around for the

:23:22. > :23:30.next four weeds at one of the guys making the headlines certainly Andy

:23:31. > :23:35.Murray. Some acreage in the new coaching relationship with Ami

:23:36. > :23:56.Mauresmo. In action after this. -- Amelie Mauresmo.

:23:57. > :24:24.Such a huge amount of swing on the second delivery.

:24:25. > :24:31.I have to say, some superb movement at the back of the court. One of the

:24:32. > :24:36.ball girls just moving her hands and whipped over to her left and missed

:24:37. > :24:58.that. Good effort. It is not target practice!

:24:59. > :25:15.He has only lost seven points on serve, Lopez. A dominant

:25:16. > :25:18.performance. Apart from holding his own serve it is difficult to know

:25:19. > :25:23.what Leyton Hewitt can do about it but he will hang about. Absolutely.

:25:24. > :25:31.And he can just hope that Lopez will lose a bit of velocity on his serve.

:25:32. > :28:36.Or perhaps have a game where he misses a few first serves.

:28:37. > :28:50.That is a big hole and a big message from Leyton Hewitt. As if he was

:28:51. > :28:55.going to go away! It is lovely to watch in trying to work it out. He

:28:56. > :29:00.has a major conundrum on his hands. Does he change position to try to

:29:01. > :29:05.get a racket on a ball and make Lopez play it? Look at this, and

:29:06. > :29:15.return first serves that Lopez is serving. -- unreturned. Remarkable.

:29:16. > :29:23.When you think how good Leyton Hewitt's return of serve has always

:29:24. > :29:27.been, and 84% of those serves are not coming back. It is testament to

:29:28. > :29:33.how well he serves. I don't think we can expect him to continue. There

:29:34. > :29:37.has been three quarters of an hour of this match and when Lopez has

:29:38. > :29:45.gone wide, he has not lost a point on the first serve. Can he marry

:29:46. > :29:49.that? And hitting wide is his strength, the to hander. -- two

:29:50. > :30:03.hander. I know what you mean. If he does not hit the spot, he has

:30:04. > :30:08.been very accurate. If he does not get it close to the line, Hewitt

:30:09. > :30:29.will put them back into play. That's far he has been nearly perfect on

:30:30. > :31:06.serve. People settling in, beginning to anticipate the Murray match.

:31:07. > :31:10.Lopez has looked solid as a rock of the top-spin backhand. That's not

:31:11. > :32:09.normally his great strength. That great return of serve. He just

:32:10. > :32:22.managed to chip it back. No doubt Hewitt wants to have

:32:23. > :32:23.somebody serving and following -- volleying on every point. Lopez

:32:24. > :32:47.mixing it up nicely. Some people down there in the

:32:48. > :32:51.corner, it is a members' area, I don't think they realised when they

:32:52. > :32:57.sat there, he's lost his drink and probably queued up for it, he is

:32:58. > :33:00.gutted! Well, you shouldn't have skived off work anyway! People

:33:01. > :33:20.sometimes leave their drinks up there and it's a target.

:33:21. > :33:54.Monumental serving. Double figures on aces for Feliciano Lopez. They

:33:55. > :33:58.hadn't played for seven years. They played this year in Brisbane and

:33:59. > :34:02.Hewitt beat him again. Went on to win the tournament. What a great

:34:03. > :35:48.start to the year in front of home fans. . He a set down here.

:35:49. > :36:09.Perhaps a bad bounce. It certainly skidded through the court nicely.

:36:10. > :36:19.What a terrific point from Lopez, just placing the ball exquisitely.

:36:20. > :36:21.Interesting. He picked the serve, he moved out wide even before Hewitt

:36:22. > :37:01.had hit it. APPLAUSE

:37:02. > :37:50.. That is away. Lopez will define

:37:51. > :37:52.play. If Hewitt doesn't break either one of the next two service games

:37:53. > :38:08.from Lopez, he is out. That is a little bit lax in some

:38:09. > :38:15.areas from Lleyton Hewitt. He has not played so well today. Well, I

:38:16. > :38:20.think he's been up against superior opposition, really. Normally when

:38:21. > :38:23.Lleyton would come into a match against Lopez, you would expect him

:38:24. > :38:31.to put a lot of returns back into play but he hasn't been allowed to

:38:32. > :38:35.do so. To Lopez's credit, he has been extremely consistent off the

:38:36. > :38:42.ground. Often we will find him make mistakes, unforced errors, they have

:38:43. > :38:50.not appeared at all today. I think perhaps Hewitt has gone about it in

:38:51. > :38:56.a way that hasn't helped him as much as it might have. He has played to

:38:57. > :39:01.Lopez's backhand persistently. The Spaniard has gotten into a nice with

:39:02. > :39:10.them. Maybe he needs to play a little more to Lopez's forehand. And

:39:11. > :39:14.then counterpunch into the backhand. That if he can get his service

:39:15. > :39:18.delivery back. You've got nice, new tennis balls to serve with. Ten

:39:19. > :39:22.times he has finished in the top 50 in the past 11 years. He's a man who

:39:23. > :39:31.knows how to close matches, for sure.

:39:32. > :40:01.It could have been an awkward return.

:40:02. > :40:46.He hasn't done much one today, that's for sure.

:40:47. > :41:41.Well, that's the sort of return you might have expected.

:41:42. > :41:46.Lopez has not put a foot wrong. He has served dominantly and followed

:41:47. > :43:56.it up with high percentage tennis. Straight through the pace, just

:43:57. > :43:59.about a centimetre or so above the net. It looks as though he will at

:44:00. > :44:34.least make Lopez serve for it. That's the first part of the job

:44:35. > :44:49.done. Davis Cup hero for Australia, he's

:44:50. > :44:54.been an -- been in a few situations before. Lopez will serve for it. I

:44:55. > :44:59.see Neil has been joined by Mike Dixon, with his back to us there.

:45:00. > :45:07.Talking to our old friend, Chris Kermode, the boss of the ATP Tour.

:45:08. > :45:13.Stephen Farrell now running it as the MD in the tournament, player

:45:14. > :45:17.liaison, Ross Hutchins as well. It's the new setup. He has left it in

:45:18. > :45:20.good hands, and he had a lot to say about how it should be run going

:45:21. > :45:25.forward. But I've hardly seen Chris, I've known him since I was ten or

:45:26. > :45:31.11. He's busy now, he's got a proper job. He's a bit of a Cinderella

:45:32. > :45:35.story! What is it, executive director of the ATP Tour? I was just

:45:36. > :45:42.thinking that, and that's why I said boss. Chairman? He has faked a phone

:45:43. > :45:57.call to get away from everybody! He has been to most every tournament

:45:58. > :46:11.this year. He has travelled a lot. The crowd filling up, getting ready

:46:12. > :46:31.for Andy Murray. The first time he will be back on British soil.

:46:32. > :46:42.Aha! Just to put the pressure on a little more. This is a rare treat,

:46:43. > :46:51.to win the first point. He did his best. Too strong, too

:46:52. > :47:54.good from the Spaniard. A lovely controlled lob, reading of

:47:55. > :48:00.the backhand. Didn't come in enough. Well done again, Lopez, I have to

:48:01. > :48:04.say. Ordinarily, that approach would be enough the majority of the time

:48:05. > :48:59.but today, Lopez has been flawless off the ground.

:49:00. > :49:18.He gets his first victory over the four-time champion in straight sets.

:49:19. > :49:23.A first victory and a first play absolutely easily. A delight. Three

:49:24. > :49:28.times a quarterfinalist at Wimbledon and he's certainly a factor on the

:49:29. > :49:33.grass, both here and in two weeks time at Wimbledon. It's a fond

:49:34. > :49:39.farewell to a worthy champion here. Lleyton Hewitt donated his first

:49:40. > :49:42.service game, got off to a bad start. But after that it was all

:49:43. > :49:55.Lopez. He really played a flawless match.

:49:56. > :50:04.STUDIO: A great performance from this man, 32 now, but still showing

:50:05. > :50:09.his force to be reckoned on grass. Next up, everyone will be rushing to

:50:10. > :50:13.their seats here. Andy Murray, the defending champion, the Wimbledon

:50:14. > :50:18.champion on court against Paul-Henri Mathieu. A wonderful afternoon of

:50:19. > :50:21.tennis in this glorious sunshine. We have Stan Wawrinka later in the

:50:22. > :50:26.afternoon and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who everyone loves to watch. Seeded

:50:27. > :50:30.five year, a former Wimbledon semifinalist. So much to look

:50:31. > :50:36.forward to. Murray is on next. First, let's hear from Feliciano

:50:37. > :50:38.Lopez. Many congratulations, your first

:50:39. > :50:44.victory over Lleyton in a rivalry that goes back over a decade. You

:50:45. > :50:48.must feel great. Finally I was able to beat him. I played great, that

:50:49. > :50:53.was why I beat him today. Everything was working perfectly, my game was

:50:54. > :50:57.working great today. To be honest, he is a difficult game for me. We

:50:58. > :51:01.played many times and he's always beat me. I have to be proud of this

:51:02. > :51:06.win today. Not a single break point against your serve on the whole

:51:07. > :51:11.match. Your serve is really operating well. It's really working

:51:12. > :51:15.good. I was serving every angle, very good today. Against Lleyton,

:51:16. > :51:25.one of the best returners in the game. I think that was probably the

:51:26. > :51:29.key of the match, that I was serving very good and I didn't give any

:51:30. > :51:32.chance with my serve. Our commentary team were saying they thought that

:51:33. > :51:35.must have been one of the best archers you played on grass perhaps

:51:36. > :51:42.in your career, would you go along with that? I agree, one of the best,

:51:43. > :51:47.if not the best. I completely agree. Many congratulations and onto the

:51:48. > :51:53.next round. Thank you very much Feliciano Lopez!

:51:54. > :52:01.STUDIO: Here they come, so much pressure, so much expectation. It's

:52:02. > :52:07.the title all the players want to win. These guys of friends of the

:52:08. > :52:12.court but the moment they step out there, forget it! A hugely exciting

:52:13. > :52:17.moment. What happens at Wimbledon is incredible. Wimbledon 2014, it's

:52:18. > :52:27.anyone's game. Starts Monday the 23rd, the first

:52:28. > :52:30.man on court will be the defending champion, Andy Murray. He has some

:52:31. > :52:34.business to do here, defending his title at the Queen's Club, up

:52:35. > :52:39.against Paul-Henri Mathieu. Everyone getting their seats on Centre Court,

:52:40. > :52:43.ready for the return of Andy Murray in his grasscourt season. Are you

:52:44. > :52:50.all right there, Andy? I'm making sure I don't look too fat on air!

:52:51. > :52:56.Where were we? The things I have to put up with! Before we talk about Mr

:52:57. > :53:00.Murray and Mr Mathieu, let's talk about Lleyton Hewitt. Lopez, superb.

:53:01. > :53:04.Lleyton Hewitt, what a great champion. Looking at what he has

:53:05. > :53:09.done. The youngest ever world number one at 20. He won his 600th tour

:53:10. > :53:14.match in March this year. He's got so much to be proud of, but not at

:53:15. > :53:18.his best today. He likes playing. He hates losing and just loves hitting

:53:19. > :53:25.the tennis ball. I remember when he won in Adelaide in eight -- 98. He

:53:26. > :53:30.beat a gassy, he was 16. He's been inspired so many times. If you can't

:53:31. > :53:34.get the ball back then you can't play. Against Lopez, he just

:53:35. > :53:38.couldn't get the ball back on this occasion. I think Lopez probably

:53:39. > :53:44.beat Gulbis, if Gulbis wins his first Mathieu.

:53:45. > :53:53.Lopez, a superb performance, no one is going to want him in the draw,

:53:54. > :53:59.are they? He is serving well. Looking ahead to Wimbledon, the

:54:00. > :54:06.Wimbledon wildcard have been announced. We have had a little look

:54:07. > :54:17.at them. Did Lloyd get one in the over 80s? Sadly not.

:54:18. > :54:28.British players go through, James Ward, Dan Evans, Dan Cox. Kyle

:54:29. > :54:36.Edmund outside the 250 cut-off in his ranking. No real surprise there.

:54:37. > :54:39.I don't think so, they are all justified. With Kyle Edmund, it

:54:40. > :54:43.comes down to the people in charge. When you get a younger player that

:54:44. > :54:47.is perhaps outside the rankings, not only do they deserve it but are they

:54:48. > :54:51.going to take advantage of it in a way where they are not disputing

:54:52. > :54:55.about the money? Kyle Edmund is the real deal. He is not someone who is

:54:56. > :54:59.going to take the Wimbledon wildcard as a right to get. He will look at

:55:00. > :55:03.it that this is the last time he will want a wildcard, he will now on

:55:04. > :55:07.want to be straight in the draw. What the LTA have done with all the

:55:08. > :55:10.different criteria they've put on players, with the funding and the

:55:11. > :55:12.selection for wildcards, they are much tougher in making people really

:55:13. > :55:21.motivated. And the first round prize-money,

:55:22. > :55:25.?27,000 or something. It can keep a player going for the whole year

:55:26. > :55:29.financially. It's very important for them. If people are working in the

:55:30. > :55:33.right way and getting results, why not give them to the British

:55:34. > :55:36.players? The big deal as far as Britons are concerned is Michael

:55:37. > :55:41.Downey, the new chief executive, coming to report to the media this

:55:42. > :55:45.Friday. He is expected to announce that Bob Brett is going to take over

:55:46. > :55:49.on the high performance, not take over but, having had a good look at

:55:50. > :55:51.the high-performance centres and whether they are fulfilling their

:55:52. > :55:54.function or not and operating properly or not, he's going to

:55:55. > :55:58.report on what he thinks. He thinks. He's been around the game for a long

:55:59. > :56:01.time, so that'll be the next big talking point away from the actual

:56:02. > :56:04.tennis. But we've heard it all before. Whenever we

:56:05. > :56:06.tennis. But we've heard it all each year it is the same old stuff.

:56:07. > :56:11.I think the solutions are fairly straightforward myself. With what?

:56:12. > :56:17.For underachievement over the years, which has been failure in many ways.

:56:18. > :56:21.I'm just calling the tennis shots and letting people get on with it.

:56:22. > :56:25.You've got to get that motivation but you've got to give players

:56:26. > :56:30.enough, enough money and funding to be able to support themselves. It's

:56:31. > :56:34.expensive. It is. It will be in the headlines again when players go out

:56:35. > :56:37.and how much they earn in the first round at Wimbledon, but what people

:56:38. > :56:41.don't understand is what it costs throughout the year. James Ward and

:56:42. > :56:44.players like that, they are making almost nothing in these challenges.

:56:45. > :56:50.This sort of prize money can keep them going for three, four, five

:56:51. > :56:53.months travelling. If you totalled the prize money up throughout the

:56:54. > :56:59.year, it is not a lot. The Grand Slams, the money is justified. Those

:57:00. > :57:04.guys are really professional. All they've got the wildcards, everyone

:57:05. > :57:08.is an absolute pro-. Too often it is said... It's true to say the players

:57:09. > :57:11.need to take their personal responsible for themselves and their

:57:12. > :57:16.performance, they've got all the solidity is. But if they get given a

:57:17. > :57:19.wrong advice at ten, 11 or 12 years old and get put with the wrong

:57:20. > :57:22.people, people who are not good enough to be with them or don't know

:57:23. > :57:26.enough or are not charismatic enough, their tennis gets ruined.

:57:27. > :57:30.That is what has happened too many times. I hope that is what Bob Brett

:57:31. > :57:34.comes up with. The guys you saw listed there and the women as well,

:57:35. > :57:40.they deserve them. We will talk about the women in a moment. Those

:57:41. > :57:44.challengers, if you win one match in a challenge you win less than ?500.

:57:45. > :57:56.James Ward one $500. He doesn't need a wildcard. His bank

:57:57. > :58:00.balance is OK. No trouble there! He is walking on to court for his

:58:01. > :58:06.opening match here. I'm sure he will be happy to get back on the grass,

:58:07. > :58:09.he loves the grass courts. A massive ovation for the defending champion,

:58:10. > :58:13.the Wimbledon champion. We will never forget last summer and that

:58:14. > :58:17.afternoon when he won at Wimbledon. 77 years we had to wait for

:58:18. > :58:21.Wimbledon champion. He held his nerve, that last game against

:58:22. > :58:26.Djokovic will live in my memory for a long time! 11 and that afternoon

:58:27. > :58:28.when he won at Wimbledon. 77 years we had to wait for Wimbledon

:58:29. > :58:35.champion. He held his nerve, that last game against Djokovic will live

:58:36. > :58:38.in my memory for a long time! , four ladies wildcards have been

:58:39. > :59:05.announced. We are ready for Andy Murray to

:59:06. > :59:10.start the defence of his title, up against Paul-Henri Mathieu.

:59:11. > :59:15.That is a brilliantly worked point from Murray.

:59:16. > :59:26.A beautiful shot. It's really tough to play for me because he can mix it

:59:27. > :59:34.up pretty well and is already a top player. It's going to be difficult.

:59:35. > :59:39.That's it, a third title at Queen's Club for Andy Murray.

:59:40. > :59:44.Very few people know Andy Murray better than Boss Hutchins, as a

:59:45. > :59:49.friend, tournament director here now, but as somebody who has played

:59:50. > :59:52.alongside him for many years. We've just seen Andy winning here and

:59:53. > :00:00.Wimbledon last year, have you detected any change in him as a

:00:01. > :00:05.person as a result of that? Andy has been the same for many years. Always

:00:06. > :00:12.a relaxed of God guy who enjoys spending time with his family and

:00:13. > :00:16.friends. On court he has been very hard-working and spend the hours in

:00:17. > :00:19.the gym. I think nothing has changed inside him. He's more comfortable

:00:20. > :00:24.with himself, knowing what he has achieved the last 12 months,

:00:25. > :00:30.including the Olympic gold. As a person, he has not changed. He is

:00:31. > :00:33.always relaxed of court and on court he is the competitive man who wants

:00:34. > :00:37.to win every single point that he plays. His team has been augmented

:00:38. > :00:43.now by Amelie Mauresmo and this is the first match that she will be

:00:44. > :00:46.part of. Were you surprised by the appointment? I was not surprised

:00:47. > :00:50.that it was slightly unusual because if you look at his previous coaches,

:00:51. > :00:58.they have always been first-time coaches. I was not surprised. I did

:00:59. > :01:01.not know he was speaking to Amelie Mauresmo. I don't know her. I met

:01:02. > :01:09.yesterday for the first or second time and she was very calm and

:01:10. > :01:14.soothing to talk to. I have heard that from other coaches. They

:01:15. > :01:18.respect her. Ultimate class. She knows the game really well and is so

:01:19. > :01:22.successful on the grass courts. Really good to talk to her and

:01:23. > :01:25.understand her thoughts about Andy. She has really good plans and one

:01:26. > :01:34.thing to do well and she understands his game tactic and mentally. How

:01:35. > :01:39.wide was a consultation process? Do you think it was Andy and Andy?

:01:40. > :01:45.Probably three or four people. I don't know. Probably Andy and his

:01:46. > :01:53.mum, who are very close. He will have spoken to a couple of coaches

:01:54. > :01:58.who he has known over the years, with whom he has a close

:01:59. > :02:01.relationship on tour, who understands tennis and what Andy

:02:02. > :02:05.once. I imagine he will have spoken to them and they will have been very

:02:06. > :02:09.clear. He was looking for a female coach, someone with a different

:02:10. > :02:12.point of view, with a different history of tennis, who sees the game

:02:13. > :02:19.in a different way and can implement that side of things going forward.

:02:20. > :02:22.One final point. It is odd for you now because you want him to win as a

:02:23. > :02:25.friend, colleague and team-mate, and now as tournament director, you want

:02:26. > :02:33.him in the tournament for as long as possible. I have to sit on the fence

:02:34. > :02:37.but everybody loved him. He is a big draw for us here. A great grass

:02:38. > :02:39.court player. But it this way, I hope he does well. Good to talk to

:02:40. > :02:50.you. Thanks, John. What a winning streak

:02:51. > :02:54.Andy has on grass. Since he lost to Roger Federer, he has won 80 matches

:02:55. > :03:03.including Olympic gold and the Wimbledon title. It was when he

:03:04. > :03:07.cried at the end of that one, and he demonstrated that human streak, I

:03:08. > :03:12.think everybody related completely to him. That was the last time that

:03:13. > :03:19.he lost. That moment when he creased up and really demonstrated what was

:03:20. > :03:22.inside him. I think people who did not know him before really felt in

:03:23. > :03:26.love with him then and since then unbeaten on grass. It was when he

:03:27. > :03:31.won his first match this time last year, if you were looking at a horse

:03:32. > :03:36.in a paddock, you think, do they look right? He looked absolutely

:03:37. > :03:41.right. This is an important match. We expect him to win it but look at

:03:42. > :03:43.indicators and the commentary will demonstrate that as well. Just see

:03:44. > :03:45.what he is looking like this year. demonstrate that as well. Just see

:03:46. > :03:50.what he is looking like Last year although he looked right, he wasn't.

:03:51. > :03:55.He hadn't been. He had missed the clay-court season and his back

:03:56. > :03:59.injury was a problem. It was not the ideal build-up. He needed some wins

:04:00. > :04:05.last year. This year he would love to win the tournament and there is

:04:06. > :04:11.no reason why he shouldn't. He has those matches in the bank, from the

:04:12. > :04:18.semifinals at the French. It is always fascinating to watch him on

:04:19. > :04:22.grass. The way he just carves up opponents. I love to see the drop

:04:23. > :04:26.shots, the change of pace with the slice, the backhand down the line

:04:27. > :04:30.that goes behind the opponent. He has so many different varieties in

:04:31. > :04:37.his game and it is fun to watch him. A fascinating player. Just look at

:04:38. > :04:42.him! I hope people can see it on the TV. We sometimes wonder if you can

:04:43. > :04:46.hear the ball being struck. Just to see him physically, the size of

:04:47. > :04:52.him, the proportion. He is an athlete in his prime. After surgery

:04:53. > :04:55.not everybody comes back 100%. 99.5% is not good enough. In the last

:04:56. > :04:58.couple of is not good enough. In the last

:04:59. > :05:09.weeks, he has demonstrated that he is back in his prime. He

:05:10. > :05:15.weeks, he has demonstrated that he Mathieu. This will be a test today

:05:16. > :05:20.though. Yes, 32 years old but he has only ever won one set of Andy

:05:21. > :05:27.Murray. And grass is not his favourite. And on the last few

:05:28. > :05:34.occasions, Andy Murray has chopped him up. But there is always that

:05:35. > :05:39.little thing that comes in on grass, which makes Queen's fascinating.

:05:40. > :05:43.Andy Murray can get worried about the movement on the grass at the

:05:44. > :05:47.back of the court. We don't have the weather conditions of last year, so

:05:48. > :05:52.hopefully none of that. If he stands five feet behind the baseline, his

:05:53. > :06:00.lips, he looks around, he has some doubts. Hopefully not this time. --

:06:01. > :06:06.he slips. You have to change your whole approach. Absolutely, step in

:06:07. > :06:11.at least six inches, take the ball earlier. If he starts defending too

:06:12. > :06:15.much, and gets onto the lime green grass, even though it is Wednesday

:06:16. > :06:20.and we have had plenty of play, with a bit of luck he will be playing up.

:06:21. > :06:30.I don't like and sliding around at the back. We need him for the rest

:06:31. > :06:37.of the season! So does Mauresmo! And attacking game is what we are

:06:38. > :06:46.looking for. The pictures in the papers tomorrow will be Andy and

:06:47. > :06:54.Amelie. We want you to contact our team tomorrow. Police send in any

:06:55. > :07:00.observations about the tournament on Twitter. -- please send in. Let me

:07:01. > :07:12.hand now to Cotter good afternoon. Because the Davis Cup tussles have

:07:13. > :07:16.been away from home, this is Andy Murray's first match in the UK since

:07:17. > :07:27.that magical day at Wimbledon last July. What a setting for a return. A

:07:28. > :07:28.nice opener for him. Paul-Henri Mathieu will serve to get us under

:07:29. > :08:00.way. A nice start for Mathieu. He has

:08:01. > :09:35.been as high as 12 in the world. Just inside the top 100.

:09:36. > :09:39.I thought Andy Murray was bending over in discomfort but it is just a

:09:40. > :10:29.rogue shoelace. One of his best shots. Plenty of

:10:30. > :10:30.them, obviously, but that backhand down the line. Gets behind his

:10:31. > :11:09.opponent with that shot so well. A point he could have, should have

:11:10. > :11:16.won. He did not get his feet behind the ball and was very awkward.

:11:17. > :11:19.Another indication of Murray's defensive abilities, getting that

:11:20. > :11:20.lob up in the air and picking his opponent play one more shot. Very

:11:21. > :11:58.annoying to play against. Paul-Henri Mathieu must have thought

:11:59. > :12:00.at 40-0 that he was settling into the match and that all was well.

:12:01. > :12:27.Break point with the champion. Five straight points Andy Murray and

:12:28. > :12:48.he breaks in the opening game. Mathieu, when you have a losing

:12:49. > :12:54.record of 5-0, not good, but the last four have been straight sets

:12:55. > :12:58.and very comfortable. He was playing well, he started off well, and then

:12:59. > :13:05.the balls started coming back at him in awkward positions. Then he goes

:13:06. > :13:08.outside his comfort zone, then he starts going for too much and the

:13:09. > :13:37.errors come. Very good start for Andy Murray.

:13:38. > :13:45.Just forcing the issue. The right shot, he had to come in, but too

:13:46. > :13:48.fast. Trying to make it so good against Andy Murray otherwise the

:13:49. > :14:41.passing shot would come down at his feet.

:14:42. > :14:52.All too easy for Andy Murray at the moment. A fabulous return of serve

:14:53. > :14:57.and unfortunately Murray improvises, shortens up the backswing and guides

:14:58. > :15:04.it down the line. Next minute, on top of the net. Not doing much for

:15:05. > :15:14.the French man's confidence. He has not played badly but he has lost one

:15:15. > :15:22.game and is down 40-0. That was better.

:15:23. > :15:43.That ends the run of eight consecutive points for Murray.

:15:44. > :16:03.UMPIRE: Game, Murray. Murray leads two games to love.

:16:04. > :16:09.A chance for Andy Murray to get going on the grass and forget that

:16:10. > :16:16.he was ground down by Rafa Nadal in the French Open. A confidence

:16:17. > :16:17.booster, to put that extraordinary performance by Rafa Nadal behind

:16:18. > :17:46.him. That part of the court gives him

:17:47. > :19:03.some success. He did say well after that slip. He

:19:04. > :19:07.got back up and got there. It would have been an easy shot if he had not

:19:08. > :19:12.slipped. But he grabbed his racket in time and managed to get this

:19:13. > :19:34.across court. He did well to get that angle.

:19:35. > :19:49.So Paul-Henri Mathieu gets a game on the board. Not happy with his feet.

:19:50. > :19:54.Andy Murray looking fairly comfortable so far. The number three

:19:55. > :20:00.seed. On an 18 match winning streak on grass, given his win at Wimbledon

:20:01. > :20:04.and here last year. Because of those wins, people have been asking us

:20:05. > :20:13.questions. You can contact us at the BBC website and Twitter and

:20:14. > :20:16.Facebook. People have asked if he would be in the top four see that

:20:17. > :20:22.Wimbledon and he will be because they make adjustments for the grass.

:20:23. > :20:26.I don't know if he will be three or four but it is drawn out of a hat so

:20:27. > :20:32.it does not matter. The important thing is to be seeded top four to

:20:33. > :20:38.avoid the big guns in the quarterfinals. He will be fine.

:20:39. > :20:42.Wawrinka will suffer, I think. Andy Murray should be three, I think, and

:20:43. > :20:50.Roger Federer four. If my maths are correct. Stanislas Wawrinka, the

:20:51. > :20:54.world number three, might slip down. It is fair enough that Wimbledon

:20:55. > :21:01.adjusts to grass because it is so seldom played on.

:21:02. > :21:08.I will be interested to see if in tougher matches or if he gets

:21:09. > :21:13.frustrated if Andy Murray will be turning to Amelie Mauresmo. Ivan

:21:14. > :21:17.Lendl just sat there. And he has dark sunglasses on, too, so you

:21:18. > :21:24.could not see what his eyes were saying.

:21:25. > :21:34.Please take any seat for now, ladies and gentlemen.

:21:35. > :21:55.You never know who he is aiming that at. He does not name people.

:21:56. > :22:06.So good from Mathieu. Gorgeous topspin volley. Right at the back of

:22:07. > :23:49.the ball. Good disguise. If you are going up against Andy

:23:50. > :23:54.Murray, one of the places where you have a chance to get ahead in the

:23:55. > :23:56.rally is the second serve. He has not yet one over 90 mph yet. He is

:23:57. > :24:25.vulnerable on the second serve. Paul-Henri Mathieu is still not

:24:26. > :25:02.happy with his footing. UMPIRE: Game, Murray. Murray leads

:25:03. > :25:18.three games to one. Nearly a full house here. The first

:25:19. > :25:24.appearance of Andy Murray, the defending champion, three times a

:25:25. > :25:29.winner here. In between his wins, he has struggled a bit. In a good

:25:30. > :26:18.position against Mathieu. UMPIRE: A talent has been called.

:26:19. > :27:18.The ball was called out. -- a challenge has been called.

:27:19. > :27:42.Not the best shot selection now. Murray had already read that

:27:43. > :27:50.attempted drop shot. It would have been a piece of cake if it had gone

:27:51. > :29:42.over. Murray was a bit unlucky. In all

:29:43. > :29:49.probability he would have had break point but for that poor call. Maybe

:29:50. > :29:53.he'd be up a double break by now. The French Open, it was so

:29:54. > :29:58.impressive before that game against Nadal. Nadal get 10% stronger,

:29:59. > :30:04.Murray drops by 10%. Put it behind you and look at the championship as

:30:05. > :30:12.a whole. You look at it purely as a positive. In my opinion, he looked a

:30:13. > :30:17.step slower than Nadal. I think the accumulation... With the lack of

:30:18. > :30:21.match as his patented surgery coming into the French Open. He needed a

:30:22. > :30:25.big tournament and he got it. I think he would look, and everybody

:30:26. > :30:28.should look, at the positives of getting through to the semifinals.

:30:29. > :30:32.Yes, he got demolished there but there were a number of reasons,

:30:33. > :30:35.apart from the dog being the greatest clay-court player of

:30:36. > :30:53.all-time I think he was visibly a bit tired. If he is in pretty robust

:30:54. > :30:59.health. The grass court season, he will come alive, very interesting to

:31:00. > :31:07.see this year at Wimbledon, very different type of attention.

:31:08. > :31:18.Tub serving at that end, just checking that the sun isn't in that

:31:19. > :31:26.position -- tough. They didn't have that problem last year, there wasn't

:31:27. > :31:28.any son, -- sunshine, you didn't have to worry about throwing the

:31:29. > :32:37.ball, all you saw were clouds. Definitely moving into the court on

:32:38. > :32:40.that second serve. Getting the first good striking off the backhand and

:32:41. > :32:46.allowing himself to get into the position where he can cope with the

:32:47. > :33:05.big winner on the second shot. -- go for.

:33:06. > :33:52.Cruising through another service game. He does love it here, Murray.

:33:53. > :34:01.This is where a lot of people first saw his talent, back in 2005. He had

:34:02. > :34:04.a good run as a young man, 18 years old. Eventually lost to Thomas

:34:05. > :34:46.Johansson, but it was clear there was a star in the making.

:34:47. > :35:01.Specific grass court shoes on Mathieu's feet.

:35:02. > :35:08.You would have thought that if he was worried about the equipment, he

:35:09. > :35:10.has had a day to get things done, because he won the first round. It

:35:11. > :35:44.is not like this is his first match. Like you are saying, you get forced

:35:45. > :35:52.into chasing those lines against a very good player.

:35:53. > :35:55.Yes, you start going close to the line, you know what is coming back

:35:56. > :37:01.at you when you play against Murray. was overruled by the umpire. I don't

:37:02. > :37:06.think the linesman had called that. And it is a good overrule, to see

:37:07. > :37:08.that far line from the umpire's chair on a grass court without a

:37:09. > :38:10.mark, that is pretty good umpiring. Well played by Murray but read well

:38:11. > :38:16.by Paul-Henri Mathieu. Defensive work again from Murray, getting to

:38:17. > :38:18.that ball and almost getting away with it. But a very good half-volley

:38:19. > :39:07.from Mathieu. That one, he hit too early. He

:39:08. > :39:14.anticipated whether Serb was going and didn't time it right. -- where

:39:15. > :39:21.the serve was going. In the end, it is a hold for-macro

:39:22. > :39:32.too. Just one break behind. -- for In the end, it is a hold for-macro

:39:33. > :39:37.Paul-Henri Mathieu. We talk about the coaching, a lot of talk about

:39:38. > :39:41.Amelie Mauresmo, a lot of attention on her, but I always feel with

:39:42. > :39:46.Murray that it is a big team. The coach is just a figurehead, it is

:39:47. > :39:51.the whole team that is his coaching setup. I don't know what role Amelie

:39:52. > :39:54.Mauresmo is going to play, just a sounding board, someone to bounce

:39:55. > :40:00.things off? When she get to a certain level, you are almost

:40:01. > :40:04.coaching yourself. -- once you. You are, but as I was saying in the

:40:05. > :40:09.studio, even the great players have little self-doubts at crucial points

:40:10. > :40:15.in Grand Slams, it can happen. And if you have a Grand Slam winner in

:40:16. > :40:18.your corner who has been there and done it and can sympathise with what

:40:19. > :40:24.you are feeling and maybe give a few words of what might the difference

:40:25. > :40:29.-- make the difference in those circumstances, it is such a small

:40:30. > :40:33.amount, the difference between the top players, one or two points here

:40:34. > :40:37.and there and if she can impart a couple of things on big occasions

:40:38. > :40:42.that he might want to hear and might need to hear, it might make the

:40:43. > :40:45.difference. She obviously imparted something on Marion Bartoli last

:40:46. > :40:51.year, she was so impressive in winning Wimbledon. She has had some

:40:52. > :40:57.experience of coaching one of the men, Michael LLodra, during a grass

:40:58. > :41:01.court season. And that is what we are going to have here, grass court

:41:02. > :41:41.season and then to be reviewed after that.

:41:42. > :41:49.A little wave of apology. You never know what is going to happen when

:41:50. > :41:53.you hit the net cord, it can bounce up nicely and you can whack it away

:41:54. > :42:21.or it can drop over like that and you have no chance.

:42:22. > :43:01.Wonderful shot to finish it and to bring Andy Murray closer to this

:43:02. > :43:06.first set. I have a quick quiz for you, going to test you at the change

:43:07. > :43:10.of ends. Murray, in winning the Queen's Wimbledon double last year

:43:11. > :43:14.became the seventh man to complete that double in the same year. I

:43:15. > :43:39.would ask you for as many as you can think of, John. Please, don't.

:43:40. > :46:14.A mistake from Mathieu and it brings a set point for Andy Murray.

:46:15. > :46:23.That is a good putt away from Paul-Henri Mathieu, because, again,

:46:24. > :46:27.Andy Murray asks one more question. He did well, because he missed an

:46:28. > :46:29.easy overhead earlier in the set than this one. This one seemed to

:46:30. > :47:17.hang in the air for an eternity. Called out, corrected by the umpire,

:47:18. > :47:39.and a winner for Murray. Mathieu just gave Murray a chance there.

:47:40. > :47:41.He did well there, good sneak attack, good instincts from the

:47:42. > :48:09.Frenchman. Not going away yet, Paul-Henri

:48:10. > :48:17.Mathieu. Again, just one break the drift. John, you have had some time,

:48:18. > :48:21.it was quite a long game. Last year, Andy Murray became the seventh man

:48:22. > :48:29.to repeat the -- achieve the Queen's Wimbledon double in the same year.

:48:30. > :48:41.Who are they? I can think of Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Lleyton

:48:42. > :48:53.Hewitt, Andre Agassi - no, not Andre Agassi. Jimmy Connors? Oh, there we

:48:54. > :49:03.go. Rafa? Obviously Andy Roddick didn't. John McEnroe, Boris Becker,

:49:04. > :49:10.Jimmy Connors, Pete Sampras, Rafael Nadal and then Andy Murray. Not a

:49:11. > :49:24.bad group. What time is it? 2:50 p.m., plenty

:49:25. > :49:29.late enough. Actually, Jimmy Connors is going to be part of the BBC

:49:30. > :49:36.Wimbledon team this year. That will be lively. Yes, it is always likely

:49:37. > :49:42.with Jimmy. A few interesting opinions. Now, Andy Murray to serve

:49:43. > :50:17.for this first set. He has spent a bit of time on the

:50:18. > :50:21.grass here. That was the nastiest one, but he is OK. He has had some

:50:22. > :51:06.problems with his knee in his career, Mathieu.

:51:07. > :51:13.Good rhythm on the serve. 66% now, first serves. This brings up two set

:51:14. > :51:47.points. You can see there, on the point of

:51:48. > :51:48.return of serve, he went around with his two-handed backhand, that is his

:51:49. > :52:02.best shot. So there we are, I match that has

:52:03. > :52:10.yet to spark into real life but so far, so comfortable for Andy Murray.

:52:11. > :52:16.He takes the first set. A match. SUE BARKER: So, first said to the

:52:17. > :52:21.defending champion, and we will be straight back with the start of the

:52:22. > :52:25.second set, -- first set. We will bring you up-to-date with a couple

:52:26. > :52:29.of other results. A bit of a shock on Court Number One, Ernests Gulbis,

:52:30. > :52:36.who had such a good run at the French Open, is out, losing to Kenny

:52:37. > :52:41.De Schepper, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, losing

:52:42. > :52:48.to Fernando Verdasco. So Ernests Gulbis is out. And Radek Stepanek is

:52:49. > :52:52.through. So the winner of the match on Centre Court will face this man,

:52:53. > :52:57.the 35-year-old from the Czech Republic, who defeated Bernard

:52:58. > :53:02.Tomic, whose horrible run in 2014 continues. He has been out of sorts,

:53:03. > :53:06.has had a double hip surgery and is failing to win matches, so his

:53:07. > :53:09.struggles continue. But Radek Stepanek, the former world number

:53:10. > :53:12.eight, is through and will face the winner of the match on Centre Court,

:53:13. > :53:16.and that is where we are heading back to.

:53:17. > :53:21.He has been around a long time no, Radek Stepanek, and he could cause

:53:22. > :53:27.problems for Andy Murray should he make it through. Was there anything

:53:28. > :53:34.in that first set that Mathieu could offer to worry Murray? He did well

:53:35. > :53:37.to hang in have to the first break, you thought Murray had some chances

:53:38. > :53:43.for the double break but he held his serve. But Murray has served pretty

:53:44. > :53:47.well, with a high first serve percentage, but he didn't have to do

:53:48. > :53:52.anything spectacular, he was just solid. That is all it took to win

:53:53. > :53:57.that set. Mathieu is gambling, making a lot of errors, but trying

:53:58. > :54:03.to force the pace and he has to do that, otherwise he has no chance.

:54:04. > :54:09.Just settling down for the start of the second set. Paul-Henri Mathieu

:54:10. > :54:57.to serve. Such a difficult shot from Mathieu,

:54:58. > :55:01.a drop shot that is fading away and he has to run in there, there is a

:55:02. > :55:02.big grip change on the forehand, has to get his racket under the ball to

:55:03. > :55:55.get that one back in court. UMPIRE: Mr Murray is challenging the

:55:56. > :56:06.call. Murray was instant with his

:56:07. > :56:58.challenge. He thinks it might be good. No.

:56:59. > :57:10.That is well played. Good rally and a good winner by Mathieu.

:57:11. > :57:34.UMPIRE: Mr Murray has two challenges remaining.

:57:35. > :57:41.The matches beginning to come to life perhaps now. The crowd

:57:42. > :57:46.appreciated that -- the match is beginning to come to life. Murray

:57:47. > :57:54.working hard in the London son. Some excellent shots, both players

:57:55. > :58:09.working the ball around. Good covering from Murray.

:58:10. > :58:20.Mathieu holds to start the second set. It is more than this, there is

:58:21. > :58:29.a match to win, but I think Murray will appreciate a good run out of

:58:30. > :58:35.just testing or facets of his game. -- all facets. It is the start of a

:58:36. > :58:41.long run for Murray on the grass. Just to see how everything is

:58:42. > :58:42.playing, how everything is feeling. The good

:58:43. > :58:46.playing, how everything is feeling. thing is, he has got those matches

:58:47. > :58:51.in the tank from a French Open. It is a different surface, but it is

:58:52. > :58:55.still matches, and he won a lot of them, so he is in a good position

:58:56. > :59:02.now if he can have a good run here and a weak's rest, he will be ready

:59:03. > :59:06.to go at Wimbledon. Not a total weak's rest, but maybe a couple of

:59:07. > :59:14.days and then get back to business -- week's rest.

:59:15. > :59:22.His first serve seems to be working pretty nicely. 67%. He would take

:59:23. > :59:26.that right now for the whole of Wimbledon. It is a good percentage.

:59:27. > :59:39.Brings the quick points. Tidy game from Andy Murray. Finished

:59:40. > :01:45.off that service game in 38 seconds. Mathieu. Andy yet to double fault in

:01:46. > :02:08.this match but four for the Frenchman.

:02:09. > :02:24.Worrying now for Mathieu. A spring in the step of Andy Murray.

:02:25. > :02:43.Good recovery, good disguise on that serve.

:02:44. > :02:54.Outstanding. Very good serve. Murray did well to dig that one back

:02:55. > :04:05.somehow. Nice disguise, shortened backswing.

:04:06. > :05:00.Mistake from Mathieu brings up another break point for Murray.

:05:01. > :05:11.To go. Excellent point. Wonderful play from Paul-Henri Mathieu. He

:05:12. > :05:15.stayed in this point. He didn't panic. A lot of balls coming back at

:05:16. > :05:43.him, break point down, but he was nice and composed.

:05:44. > :05:56.Mathieu close to holding serve. This has not been a 38 second game.

:05:57. > :06:13.SUE BARKER: Some great tennis in that game. The tennis is hotting up.

:06:14. > :06:19.We know that the winner will face Radek Stepanek, the 15th seed who

:06:20. > :06:27.defeated Bernard Tomic. He has been talking to John. You must be pretty

:06:28. > :06:34.encouraged. Yes, it is always great to have a couple of matches under my

:06:35. > :06:39.belt. Coming from a long play season. I am pleased with it and I

:06:40. > :06:43.hope I can get some more. I noticed the first thing you did when you sat

:06:44. > :06:50.down was to get out your phone and take a selfie. Do you always do

:06:51. > :06:54.that? No, I don't, I just felt like taking a selfie after winning and it

:06:55. > :06:59.was my first time. Do you always have photographs taken after an

:07:00. > :07:04.interview? He is taking a picture now. Over there. And your next

:07:05. > :07:12.match, if you want to pull up some trees now, probably Andy Murray. I

:07:13. > :07:16.think he is playing right now. If he wins, it will definitely be a

:07:17. > :07:19.challenge for me to play him in such a great tournament like Queen's. It

:07:20. > :07:24.will be an honour and I will prepare for that match like I have done

:07:25. > :07:29.until now and try to do my best. We can see that you are sweating a lot.

:07:30. > :07:33.This is England, June, Queen's Club. How about it! Ever since I came from

:07:34. > :07:36.the Czech Republic, it has been sunny so I think I brought it from

:07:37. > :07:41.our country and I hope the weather stays like that. It is great for the

:07:42. > :08:06.players and even better for the spectators. Well done. Thank you.

:08:07. > :08:13.Andy Murray's first double fault of the match. Selfies during matches

:08:14. > :08:42.will be next! Those are the sort of mistakes you

:08:43. > :08:44.cannot make 0-15, second serve. He just rolled that into the top of the

:08:45. > :09:13.net. Just a matter of time before he gets

:09:14. > :11:11.the breakthrough on Mathieu's serve. An excellent second serve from

:11:12. > :11:12.Mathieu. Murray stepping in to try and do something and he kicked it

:11:13. > :12:13.out so wide, right on the line. The court comes to life. All to no

:12:14. > :12:25.avail in the end. That was a great point. Laughing? Just a grimace.

:12:26. > :12:28.That is what he does all that sprinting in Miami for, to not win a

:12:29. > :13:00.point! He has done well with the drop shots

:13:01. > :13:44.from Murray, anticipating well. Paul-Henri Mathieu keeps his nose in

:13:45. > :13:54.front in the second set. Keeping Murray honest. Keep your questions

:13:55. > :14:03.coming in. You can send them to us through Twitter and the BBC website.

:14:04. > :14:08.We have discussed this beforehand but the wild cards will be

:14:09. > :14:16.discussed. Jack sends in this question. What is your opinion of

:14:17. > :14:27.the wild cards that have been announced so far? A lot have gone to

:14:28. > :14:34.British players. Deserved? I think they were all justified. The obvious

:14:35. > :14:44.ones are Dan Evans and James Ward. Absolutely no question about that

:14:45. > :14:49.after their Davis Cup. Dan Evans has shown the potential he has got and

:14:50. > :14:53.he is a hard worker. Dan Cox has been around for a while but has had

:14:54. > :14:57.a good season. The difference here compared to other years when there

:14:58. > :15:05.have been British wild cards, you had the feeling that some were wild

:15:06. > :15:09.card players, counting on it, expecting it, and not making full

:15:10. > :15:13.use of it. I don't mean just winning a match but they were not the

:15:14. > :15:14.hardest workers. Now all the chaps that have got them this year

:15:15. > :16:27.deserves it. Quick fire service game for Andy

:16:28. > :16:33.Murray. What are you looking for from Andy Murray for the rest of

:16:34. > :16:38.this championship and Wimbledon? First of all, attitude. That looks

:16:39. > :16:42.to be spot on. He had a very good French Open and he looks eager and

:16:43. > :16:46.fit. You look at part of his game and the first server is very

:16:47. > :16:54.important for Andy Murray when he plays well. Now he is at 72% for the

:16:55. > :17:01.total, so in good shape. His mood, his attitude on the court, he is

:17:02. > :17:09.feeling the ball well. He is so brilliant on grass. His variety is

:17:10. > :18:01.so immense. He loves this surface, it is tailor-made for him.

:18:02. > :18:07.The pace on this approach shot from Mathieu was there but not the

:18:08. > :18:12.direction. To close into Andy Murray's comfort zone and he will

:18:13. > :18:13.not miss many of those passing shots where he takes that stride with the

:18:14. > :18:46.perfect balance. That slice backhand that Murray

:18:47. > :18:52.hits, a lot of players hit it when they have no choice to and often

:18:53. > :18:57.there is no bite, it does not go through the court, it sits. But

:18:58. > :18:58.Murray's backhand slice has bite, it goes low, through the court and is

:18:59. > :19:25.deadly to play against. This will be a chance for Murray.

:19:26. > :19:30.Talking about that slice backhand, that was on the Nadal improved on

:19:31. > :19:32.when he first came over on grass. He had a weakness and has improved it

:19:33. > :20:37.now. There it is. Miscued by Mathieu and

:20:38. > :20:48.Andy Murray has that important game in the second set.

:20:49. > :20:58.Murray's servers at 72%, very impressive. The second server is

:20:59. > :21:08.still in the 80s and I would like him to flatten it out, but if nobody

:21:09. > :21:15.is hurting you, so what? What he has improved a lot on in his serve is

:21:16. > :21:20.direction. He always had a big first serve but it tended to be in the

:21:21. > :21:24.forehand court. The backhand court was out wide, particularly on the

:21:25. > :21:29.big points. But now he has really improved the wide serve on the

:21:30. > :21:35.forehand side and the one swerving away down the middle on the backhand

:21:36. > :21:39.side. He uses the body serve a fair amount as well. He has really

:21:40. > :21:40.improved his serving in all areas. Occasionally the second serve sits a

:21:41. > :21:56.little bit. Hat of the day! Very warm out there and a good

:21:57. > :22:51.forecast for the week. Friday will be in the high 20s.

:22:52. > :23:03.Second serve only 82 mph. Two in a row, the second serve has been

:23:04. > :23:19.punished. That hat is a contender. It is how the very best players

:23:20. > :23:44.respond under pressure. It seems to focus their minds a bit more.

:23:45. > :24:20.He sort of decelerated on that second serve, really.

:24:21. > :24:30.That is what he likes to do on the break points, the backhand side.

:24:31. > :25:22.Thumps it. 132 mph on that one. No messing about.

:25:23. > :25:45.the second set. That might have been the last chance for Paul-Henri

:25:46. > :25:53.Mathieu. Andy Murray is the third seed because Tomas Berdych is two

:25:54. > :25:54.and Stanislas Wawrinka number one. They would meet in the semifinals if

:25:55. > :27:11.they get that far. Not too many aces from Paul-Henri

:27:12. > :28:09.Mathieu but that was timely. Out wide Mathieu has had some

:28:10. > :31:16.success. Beautifully judged an Paul-Henri

:31:17. > :31:26.Mathieu lives to fight another game. -- and. It is only a matter of time,

:31:27. > :31:30.we suspect, but Paul-Henri Mathieu's extending that time and

:31:31. > :31:35.giving Murray a bit more of a run out. We mentioned that it Murray

:31:36. > :31:40.should go through to the semifinals, Tomas Berdych, Wawrinka,

:31:41. > :31:46.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, it is very strong. A very good draw indeed, it

:31:47. > :31:50.is. His next match if he gets through this, Radek Stepanek, is not

:31:51. > :31:54.easy either. The whole field is littered with some very good grass

:31:55. > :31:59.court players, to put it mildly. Grigor Dimitrov looked good

:32:00. > :32:04.yesterday. He looked wonderful and we haven't even talked about

:32:05. > :32:11.Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, there are a lot of very good and dangerous players

:32:12. > :32:16.out here. He just looked at his watch.

:32:17. > :32:28.Anyway... A few first serves here, should be OK. Good effort from the

:32:29. > :32:33.Frenchman, though, he has hung in there. He looked like he would go

:32:34. > :32:41.away easily a couple of times but he has kept it reasonably close.

:32:42. > :32:46.It was only 100 mph, but it was so wide, there is no chance of getting

:32:47. > :33:39.that. The odd cry of frustration from

:33:40. > :33:40.Murray, he knows there is room for improvement, but by and large, this

:33:41. > :34:07.has been efficient. Just a flash of defiance from

:34:08. > :34:29.Mathieu. There it is, it is good enough from

:34:30. > :34:33.Andy Murray and the defending champion is through. Not too much

:34:34. > :34:40.fuss or fanfare, he eases through to the last 16. Yes, a solid

:34:41. > :34:43.performance, he served very well, never looked in any trouble. He

:34:44. > :34:51.broke after the first service game from Mathieu and after that, pretty

:34:52. > :34:59.much plain sailing. He moved well, plenty of variety in his game. He

:35:00. > :35:04.looked good. It is always difficult to tell. He has not

:35:05. > :35:08.looked good. It is always difficult tested. But Paul-Henri Mathieu, very

:35:09. > :35:16.decent player, but there will be protests to come for Andy Murray. --

:35:17. > :35:23.tougher tests. He will be going through to play Radek Stepanek, who

:35:24. > :35:28.is also playing the doubles today. Everyone waiting here to hear the

:35:29. > :35:33.thoughts of Andy Murray and he is going to be sharing those thoughts

:35:34. > :35:37.with John now. Andy, many congratulations, after

:35:38. > :35:42.all the exertions of the red clay in Europe, is this the Green Green

:35:43. > :35:47.grass of home? Yes, obviously I always enjoy coming back here, I

:35:48. > :35:52.play some of my best tennis here. It is the place I got my first win on

:35:53. > :35:58.the tour when I was 18, so I have great memories. I must ask you about

:35:59. > :36:02.France, you wore a cap to conceal the unruly hair, you say, and lots

:36:03. > :36:07.of people like the new hairstyle. That is good, it gets the number,

:36:08. > :36:16.does it? I keep it short for a while. What did you think your new

:36:17. > :36:20.coach will have made of that today? I don't know, I will go and speak to

:36:21. > :36:24.her and see what she thinks. It was a good start, I think. I served

:36:25. > :36:28.pretty well. I thought both of us played a pretty good match. He

:36:29. > :36:33.didn't return so well but most of us moved well and there were some good

:36:34. > :36:36.rallies. If I could ask you to stay there and ask everyone to stay in

:36:37. > :36:39.their seeds, we have a very important presentation to make,

:36:40. > :36:45.which Andy will make on behalf of the players. This tournament, Aegon

:36:46. > :36:52.International, has been voted the best 250 tournament on the entire

:36:53. > :36:57.ATP Tour. That award has gone to the tournament in Stockholm for the last

:36:58. > :37:00.ten years, so what they have done this year, or didn't do last year, I

:37:01. > :37:06.don't know, but what Queen's have done, we will find out shortly. I

:37:07. > :37:13.will ask Andy to present that trophy to Ross Hutchins and Stephen Farrow,

:37:14. > :37:17.the managing director of the tournament and Chris Kamara, who is

:37:18. > :37:27.now the boss of the whole of the ATP. We will have a chat about where

:37:28. > :37:32.it sits -- Chris commode. Queen's won an award yesterday for being the

:37:33. > :37:37.best tournament on the entire tour for player welfare, and now this as

:37:38. > :37:39.well, it is raining trophies. I am a bit embarrassed that you are talking

:37:40. > :37:44.to me, you should be talking to Chris, who was the tournament

:37:45. > :37:48.director last year, but it is some credit for how special this

:37:49. > :37:52.tournament is, the courts and the stands, and we have such phenomenal

:37:53. > :37:56.grass court seer and I am very pleased to be working with Graham

:37:57. > :38:01.now. We have such a great tournament and everyone seems to appreciate it

:38:02. > :38:06.and this award, we are very proud of it. I ought to mention Graham, the

:38:07. > :38:14.head groundsman. This is his private lawn here. I must ask you one

:38:15. > :38:18.question, I suspect... I suspect quite a few people in a crowd here

:38:19. > :38:24.have their own lawns back home, what is the secret of keeping a really

:38:25. > :38:31.good lawn? Have your dad standing in the corner, I don't know! A really

:38:32. > :38:35.good team, it is a team effort. Obviously 365 days a year, great

:38:36. > :38:39.backing from the tournament and the club, so any equipment I'd need,

:38:40. > :38:42.everything is on hand and we do the best job we can. Some people say

:38:43. > :38:48.this grass court is better than Wimbledon, what do you say? That is

:38:49. > :38:58.really not the metre say, is it? You and your team do a fantastic job. --

:38:59. > :39:01.for me to say. Chris, the tournament director here for many years, this

:39:02. > :39:06.is a nice feather in your cap, albeit retrospectively. I think it

:39:07. > :39:11.is a recognition of what this event has built up over the years, the

:39:12. > :39:16.rich tradition of this heritage of the event, and it is supported every

:39:17. > :39:22.year, and it is bizarrely Sunday the first year I haven't done it. With

:39:23. > :39:27.the change in the calendar next year, the importance of Queen's

:39:28. > :39:32.increases in the context of the annual calendar. The ATP World Tour

:39:33. > :39:41.250 series the one events in -- is 61 events in several countries, so

:39:42. > :39:45.it is a 250 event but next year it becomes a 500 event and I think it

:39:46. > :39:49.is duly deserved. Many congratulations to you and all of

:39:50. > :39:53.the team, thank you to Andy for presenting the trophy.

:39:54. > :39:57.Congratulations to the team, the club and to Andy Murray for getting

:39:58. > :40:02.through to the next round. Thank you, one and all.

:40:03. > :40:06.SUE BARKER: Yes, Chris has really built up this tournament and has

:40:07. > :40:10.moved on to the ATP. I know Ross Hutchins will keep it as a much

:40:11. > :40:15.loved venue. It is a very popular tournament with the players. So Andy

:40:16. > :40:20.Murray, the defending champion, safely through in straight sets.

:40:21. > :40:25.Earlier today, another seeded player through, Feliciano Lopez, a

:40:26. > :40:29.three-time quarterfinalist at Wimbledon, through against Lleyton

:40:30. > :40:34.Hewitt. Straight sets all the way at the moment, but a tough one coming

:40:35. > :40:41.up and it is our first glimpse of the Australian Open champion. Big

:40:42. > :40:48.moment of truth here. Wawrinka. A test of character coming up.

:40:49. > :40:59.And that is it, Wawrinka elevate himself to Grand Slam champion. He

:41:00. > :41:04.wins the Australian Open. Magnificent. A third Swiss to win a

:41:05. > :41:08.major. SUE BARKER: The world number three

:41:09. > :41:13.is a top seed here, he has only played once here before and lost in

:41:14. > :41:17.the opening round to James Ward and has a tough opener against Marcos

:41:18. > :41:26.Baghdatis. We are asking you who will win this match, you can vote on

:41:27. > :41:29.the BBC website or you can go to Twitter and use these hashtags. The

:41:30. > :41:37.full terms and conditions are on the website. It closes soon, you only

:41:38. > :41:41.have a few minutes, so who is going to win. We will talk about that as

:41:42. > :41:47.the players come on. John and Peter, let's talk a little bit about

:41:48. > :41:52.Andy, a good start? I thought it was a good start, his first serve was

:41:53. > :41:55.excellent, almost 70% in and he would take that tomorrow all the way

:41:56. > :42:01.through Wimbledon. He moved very well, the ground strokes were good,

:42:02. > :42:06.he used the shot selection we love to see. The only thing if you really

:42:07. > :42:12.looked at it, maybe the second serve, non-them in the 90 mph area

:42:13. > :42:19.-- anon of them. Someone like Mathieu, it won't harm him very much

:42:20. > :42:24.but when you come up against the big guns, you need a bit more pace on

:42:25. > :42:30.that server. That is what you have to do on grass, isn't it? I suppose,

:42:31. > :42:33.but he has made it through his entire career with his second serve

:42:34. > :42:40.that hasn't even been this powerful. He is such a great defender. OK, he

:42:41. > :42:46.can improve his second serve, but it doesn't seem to hurt him that much,

:42:47. > :42:52.does it? Especially on a grass court where I guess they return cannot get

:42:53. > :42:57.quite as good a purchase on the return -- the returner. Maybe it

:42:58. > :43:02.isn't even that important. There were some good rallies, it was a

:43:03. > :43:07.Nice Open to get the feel of the grass. It was, Mathieu didn't go

:43:08. > :43:11.away quickly. He lost that first service game and his record is so

:43:12. > :43:15.bad against Andy, you thought he was going to go into a dive-bomb but he

:43:16. > :43:22.played well, actually. Some good, long rallies and Murray did a lot of

:43:23. > :43:27.moving, which is good. Mathieu has a pretty good serve and Murray worked

:43:28. > :43:32.on his returns. The perfect first match, he did the business. He can

:43:33. > :43:36.move up from there and he will need to, Radek Stepanek in the next

:43:37. > :43:40.round, 35 years of age there but he has just beaten Bernard Tomic and

:43:41. > :43:45.can still produce good matches. He still serves very well and moves

:43:46. > :43:52.very well, especially for an old guy. He is incredibly athletic. He

:43:53. > :43:59.is very athletic for any age, and he is going to have to serve very well.

:44:00. > :44:04.Andy returned so well. From the back of the court, it is hard to see

:44:05. > :44:09.where Radek Stepanek will hurt Murray, his grand streaks asked

:44:10. > :44:15.solid and his timing is consistent -- his ground strokes are solid. But

:44:16. > :44:20.Murray defends so well and he is so comfortable moving at the back of

:44:21. > :44:24.the court. He looks good. Also, he looked very calm today and you know

:44:25. > :44:29.he has got more gears and if he needs them, he can produce them. He

:44:30. > :44:34.is a great match player, Murray. Definitely and it will be a step up

:44:35. > :44:40.against Stepanek, he is a good grass court player and is a warrior. He

:44:41. > :44:45.still plays doubles and his Davis cup record is incredible. He hangs

:44:46. > :44:50.in there and I think he plays more tournaments than anyone on tour. He

:44:51. > :44:54.does well a lot of the time and I think it will be a good match,

:44:55. > :44:58.Murray will not take him easily, that is visual. That match will be

:44:59. > :45:04.on tomorrow, but another major championship gets underway

:45:05. > :45:10.tomorrow, the World Cup kicks off, and you can look forward to this.

:45:11. > :45:17.What really separates the great from the good think it's all over. It is

:45:18. > :45:30.now. Style? Of course. Artistry. Passion. That is a given. Learn from

:45:31. > :45:35.your mistakes. Always think about what you missed. Never be satisfied

:45:36. > :45:44.with what you have done. Whatever you do, do it with your heart. I

:45:45. > :45:48.never thought about what I could get out of football. I just wanted to

:45:49. > :45:55.play. Spain have surely won the World Cup!

:45:56. > :46:09.It does kick off tomorrow, but Gary will be here tonight with a preview

:46:10. > :46:13.show, at 10:35pm on BBC One. But here at the Queen's Club, we are

:46:14. > :46:19.looking forward to our next match on Centre Court and Stan Wawrinka is up

:46:20. > :46:23.against Marcos Baghdatis. There is Stan, the world number three, the

:46:24. > :46:29.Australian Open champion, practising this morning at Queen's Club. And

:46:30. > :46:33.right next door to his opponent, Marcos Baghdatis, former Australian

:46:34. > :46:37.Open semifinal, Wimbledon semifinalist, ranked in the top ten

:46:38. > :46:41.a few years ago. He has been battling injuries but is certainly

:46:42. > :46:45.in form at the moment having won the challenge at Nottingham last week.

:46:46. > :46:50.He has won six in a row on the surface and there is a certain

:46:51. > :46:53.confidence you feel then. Yes, it is like playing a Wimbledon qualifier

:46:54. > :46:58.in the first round, they have played three tough matches to get in there

:46:59. > :47:01.and they are tournament tough and dangerous to play against. Someone

:47:02. > :47:05.who has just won a tournament in Nottingham, six matches to win the

:47:06. > :47:10.tournament, six or seven, and he will be in good shape and thinking

:47:11. > :47:14.he has a good chance. On grass, he is very good on the surface,

:47:15. > :47:19.Baghdatis, and I think he will fancy his chances. Stan is looking for his

:47:20. > :47:23.first win in this tournament and it is not an easy opener. Let's hear

:47:24. > :47:27.from him. Welcome to the Queen's Club. You

:47:28. > :47:33.arrived here as a wildcard but immediately become top seed and I

:47:34. > :47:37.suppose it was an easy decision when you knew you weren't going to be in

:47:38. > :47:42.Paris that long to look forward to the grass. Yes, an easy decision,

:47:43. > :47:46.for sure, after losing in the first round in Paris. It is important for

:47:47. > :47:52.me to play a tournament before Wimbledon and this is the perfect

:47:53. > :47:56.place to do it. I am happy that Ross gave me the wildcard and I am

:47:57. > :48:00.thankful to have the chance to play here again after a few years. You

:48:01. > :48:05.played here some years ago, only the once, and you arrived in a very

:48:06. > :48:09.different situation to now. I remember, it was against James

:48:10. > :48:14.Ward, the British player. What do you remember about that? It was a

:48:15. > :48:20.tough match, but I remember a great tournament, it is one of the best to

:48:21. > :48:26.play. It is a beautiful place to play here. James was a wildcard and

:48:27. > :48:30.he played a good match against me, a tough, tough guide to play, so it

:48:31. > :48:36.was a different situation. Let's see this year. It is always tough for me

:48:37. > :48:40.to come back onto grass, never easy and I know I have the potential to

:48:41. > :48:45.play really well, but sometimes it takes me a few matches to do that. I

:48:46. > :48:51.hope I can win some matches here, have a great week and see how I can

:48:52. > :48:55.play. You have already had an incredible year. No matter what

:48:56. > :49:00.happens now, it has been wonderful. Winning the Australian Open title,

:49:01. > :49:05.breaking that incredibly difficult task of all those top players who

:49:06. > :49:11.usually win the grand slam titles. How has life been for you since you

:49:12. > :49:16.were that grand slam title? It has been amazing, the start of the year

:49:17. > :49:21.for me. After winning a slam, everything changes, that is for

:49:22. > :49:25.sure, especially in tennis. So many new situations the me that I have to

:49:26. > :49:31.deal with. It has been OK, some up and down in my results, not easy,

:49:32. > :49:36.but I am still really happy with the way I am playing. I am trying to

:49:37. > :49:39.focus to get some confidence back and I am really happy to be at

:49:40. > :49:44.Queen's here and Wimbledon in two weeks. What are the main

:49:45. > :49:49.differences, being a grand slam champion, when you come to

:49:50. > :49:53.tournaments? More things to do outside of the tennis court. Less

:49:54. > :50:02.and less time to think about your game, maybe and more people come to

:50:03. > :50:07.watch you. Small changes, but at the end of the day, it is a new

:50:08. > :50:10.situation and you need to deal with that, to put all of the pieces of

:50:11. > :50:18.the puzzle together and I am trying to do it and we will see how it

:50:19. > 2:43:24turns out. What do you thing happened in Paris? A lot of things.

2:43:25 > 2:43:25Just
